Monitoring the Full Disclosure mailinglist

Two generic ways to do the same thing... I'm not aware of any specific open solutions to do this, but it'd be rather trivial to do.

You could write a daily or weekly cron/jenkins job to scrape the previous time period's email from the archive looking for your keyworkds/combinations. Sending a batch digest with what it finds, if anything.

But personally, I'd Setup a specific email account to subscribe to the various security lists you're interested in. Add a simple automated script to parse the new emails for various keywords or combinations of keywords, when it finds a match forward that email on to you/your team. Just be sure to keep the keywords list updated with new products you're using.

You could even do this with a gmail account and custom rules, which is what I currently do, but I have setup an internal inbox in the past with a simple python script to forward emails that were of interest.

How do I get the command-line for an Eclipse run configuration?

You'll find the junit launch commands in .metadata/.plugins/org.eclipse.debug.core/.launches, assuming your Eclipse works like mine does. The files are named {TestClass}.launch.

You will probably also need the .classpath file in the project directory that contains the test class.

Like the run configurations, they're XML files (even if they don't have an xml extension).

R : how to simply repeat a command?

It's not clear whether you're asking this because you are new to programming, but if that's the case then you should probably read this article on loops and indeed read some basic materials on programming.

If you already know about control structures and you want the R-specific implementation details then there are dozens of tutorials around, such as this one. The other answer uses replicate and colMeans, which is idiomatic when writing in R and probably blazing fast as well, which is important if you want 10,000 iterations.

However, one more general and (for beginners) straightforward way to approach problems of this sort would be to use a for loop.

> for (ii in 1:5) { + print(ii) + } [1] 1 [1] 2 [1] 3 [1] 4 [1] 5 >

So in your case, if you just wanted to print the mean of your Tandem object 5 times:

for (ii in 1:5) {     Tandem <- sample(OUT, size = 815, replace = TRUE, prob = NULL)     TandemMean <- mean(Tandem)     print(TandemMean) }

As mentioned above, replicate is a more natural way to deal with this specific problem using R. Either way, if you want to store the results - which is surely the case - you'll need to start thinking about data structures like vectors and lists. Once you store something you'll need to be able to access it to use it in future, so a little knowledge is vital.

set.seed(1234) OUT <- runif(100000, 1, 2) tandem <- list() for (ii in 1:10000) {     tandem[[ii]] <- mean(sample(OUT, size = 815, replace = TRUE, prob = NULL)) }  tandem[1] tandem[100] tandem[20:25]

...creates this output:

> set.seed(1234) > OUT <- runif(100000, 1, 2) > tandem <- list() > for (ii in 1:10000) { +     tandem[[ii]] <- mean(sample(OUT, size = 815, replace = TRUE, prob = NULL)) + } >  > tandem[1] [[1]] [1] 1.511923  > tandem[100] [[1]] [1] 1.496777  > tandem[20:25] [[1]] [1] 1.500669  [[2]] [1] 1.487552  [[3]] [1] 1.503409  [[4]] [1] 1.501362  [[5]] [1] 1.499728  [[6]] [1] 1.492798  >

Under what circumstances can I call findViewById with an Options Menu / Action Bar item?

I am trying to obtain a handle on one of the views in the Action Bar

I will assume that you mean something established via android:actionLayout in your <item> element of your <menu> resource.

I have tried calling findViewById(R.id.menu_item)

To retrieve the View associated with your android:actionLayout, call findItem() on the Menu to retrieve the MenuItem, then call getActionView() on the MenuItem. This can be done any time after you have inflated the menu resource.

I am receiving warning in Facebook Application using PHP SDK

You need to ensure that any code that modifies the HTTP headers is executed before the headers are sent. This includes statements like session_start(). The headers will be sent automatically when any HTML is output.

Your problem here is that you're sending the HTML ouput at the top of your page before you've executed any PHP at all.

Move the session_start() to the top of your document :

<?php    session_start(); ?> <html> <head> <title>PHP SDK</title> </head> <body> <?php require_once 'src/facebook.php';    // more PHP code here.

How much should a function trust another function

That's where constructors come into play. If you have a default constructor (eg. with no parameters) that always creates a new Map, then you're sure that every instance of this class will always have an already instantiated Map.

PHP array value passes to next row

Change the checkboxes so that the name includes the index inside the brackets:

<input type="checkbox" class="checkbox_veh" id="checkbox_addveh<?php echo $i; ?>" <?php if ($vehicle_feature[$i]->check) echo "checked"; ?> name="feature[<?php echo $i; ?>]" value="<?php echo $vehicle_feature[$i]->id; ?>">

The checkboxes that aren't checked are never submitted. The boxes that are checked get submitted, but they get numbered consecutively from 0, and won't have the same indexes as the other corresponding input fields.

need to add a class to an element

You probably need something like:

result.className = 'red';

In pure JavaScript you should use className to deal with classes. jQuery has an abstraction called addClass for it.

Microsoft Advertising SDK doesn't deliverer ads

I only use MicrosoftAdvertising.Mobile and Microsoft.Advertising.Mobile.UI and I am served ads. The SDK should only add the DLLs not reference itself.

Note: You need to explicitly set width and height Make sure the phone dialer, and web browser capabilities are enabled

Followup note: Make sure that after you've removed the SDK DLL, that the xmlns references are not still pointing to it. The best route to take here is

  1. Remove the XAML for the ad
  2. Remove the xmlns declaration (usually at the top of the page, but sometimes will be declared in the ad itself)
  3. Remove the bad DLL (the one ending in .SDK )
  4. Do a Clean and then Build (clean out anything remaining from the DLL)
  5. Add the xmlns reference (actual reference is below)
  6. Add the ad to the page (example below)

Here is the xmlns reference:

xmlns:AdNamepace="clr-namespace:Microsoft.Advertising.Mobile.UI;assembly=Microsoft.Advertising.Mobile.UI"

Then the ad itself:

<AdNamespace:AdControl x:Name="myAd" Height="80" Width="480"                    AdUnitId="yourAdUnitIdHere" ApplicationId="yourIdHere"/>

Using Lato fonts in my css (@font-face)

Font Squirrel has a wonderful web font generator.

I think you should find what you need here to generate OTF fonts and the needed CSS to use them. It will even support older IE versions.

Uninitialized Constant MessagesController

Your model is @Messages, change it to @message.

To change it like you should use migration:

def change   rename_table :old_table_name, :new_table_name end

Of course do not create that file by hand but use rails generator:

rails g migration ChangeMessagesToMessage

That will generate new file with proper timestamp in name in 'db dir. Then run:

rake db:migrate

And your app should be fine since then.

Adding a UISegmentedControl to UITableView

   self.tableView.tableHeaderView = segmentedControl;

If you want it to obey your width and height properly though enclose your segmentedControl in a UIView first as the tableView likes to mangle your view a bit to fit the width.

How to implement a simple scenario the OO way

The Chapter object should have reference to the book it came from so I would suggest something like chapter.getBook().getTitle();

Your database table structure should have a books table and a chapters table with columns like:

books

  • id
  • book specific info
  • etc

chapters

  • id
  • book_id
  • chapter specific info
  • etc

Then to reduce the number of queries use a join table in your search query.

Embed ruby within URL : Middleman Blog

<%= link_to "http://www.facebook.com/sharer.php?u=" + article_url(article, :text => article.title), :class => "btn btn-primary" do %>   <i class="fa fa-facebook">     Facebook Share    </i> <%end%>

I am assuming that current_article_url is http://0.0.0.0:4567/link_to_title

How to make a variable accessible outside a function?

$.getJSON is an asynchronous request, meaning the code will continue to run even though the request is not yet done. You should trigger the second request when the first one is done, one of the choices you seen already in ComFreek's answer.

Alternatively you could use jQuery's $.when/.then(), similar to this:

var input = "netuetamundis";  var sID;  $(document).ready(function () {     $.when($.getJSON("https://prod.api.pvp.net/api/lol/eune/v1.1/summoner/by-name/" + input + "?api_key=API_KEY_HERE", function () {         obj = name;         sID = obj.id;         console.log(sID);     })).then(function () {         $.getJSON("https://prod.api.pvp.net/api/lol/eune/v1.2/stats/by-summoner/" + sID + "/summary?api_key=API_KEY_HERE", function (stats) {             console.log(stats);         });     }); });

This would be more open for future modification and separates out the responsibility for the first call to know about the second call.

The first call can simply complete and do it's own thing not having to be aware of any other logic you may want to add, leaving the coupling of the logic separated.

Method Call Chaining; returning a pointer vs a reference?

It's canonical to use references for this; precedence: ostream::operator<<. Pointers and references here are, for all ordinary purposes, the same speed/size/safety.

Jquery assiging class to th in a table

You had thead in your selector, but there is no thead in your table. Also you had your selectors backwards. As you mentioned above, you wanted to be adding the tr class to the th, not vice-versa (although your comment seems to contradict what you wrote up above).

$('tr th').each(function(index){     if($('tr td').eq(index).attr('class') != ''){         // get the class of the td         var tdClass = $('tr td').eq(index).attr('class');         // add it to this th         $(this).addClass(tdClass );     } });

How to use a global array in C#?

Your class shoud look something like this:

class Something {     int[] array; //global array, replace type of course     void function1() {        array = new int[10]; //let say you declare it here that will be 10 integers in size     }     void function2() {        array[0] = 12; //assing value at index 0 to 12.     } }

That way you array will be accessible in both functions. However, you must be careful with global stuff, as you can quickly overwrite something.

Crop image to specified size and picture location

You would need to do something like this. I am typing this off the top of my head, so this may not be 100% correct.

CGColorSpaceRef colorSpace = CGColorSpaceCreateDeviceRGB(); CGContextRef context = CGBitmapContextCreate(NULL, 640, 360, 8, 4 * width, colorSpace, kCGImageAlphaPremultipliedFirst); CGColorSpaceRelease(colorSpace);  CGContextDrawImage(context, CGRectMake(0,-160,640,360), cgImgFromAVCaptureSession);  CGImageRef image = CGBitmapContextCreateImage(context); UIImage* myCroppedImg = [UIImage imageWithCGImage:image]; CGContextRelease(context);

How can I tell if an algorithm is efficient?

Yes you can start with the Wikipedia article explaining the Big O notation, which in a nutshell is a way of describing the "efficiency" (upper bound of complexity) of different type of algorithms. Or you can look at an earlier answer where this is explained in simple english

Better solution without exluding fields from Binding

You should not use your domain models in your views. ViewModels are the correct way to do it.

You need to map your domain model's necessary fields to viewmodel and then use this viewmodel in your controllers. This way you will have the necessery abstraction in your application.

If you never heard of viewmodels, take a look at this.

How to correctly write async method?

You are calling DoDownloadAsync() but you don't wait it. So your program going to the next line. But there is another problem, Async methods should return Task or Task<T>, if you return nothing and you want your method will be run asyncronously you should define your method like this:

private static async Task DoDownloadAsync()     {         WebClient w = new WebClient();          string txt = await w.DownloadStringTaskAsync("http://www.google.com/");         Debug.WriteLine(txt);     }

And in Main method you can't await for DoDownloadAsync, because you can't use await keyword in non-async function, and you can't make Main async. So consider this:

var result = DoDownloadAsync();  Debug.WriteLine("DoDownload done"); result.Wait();

Titlecase all entries into a form_for text field

You don't want to take care of normalizing your data in a view - what if the user changes the data that gets submitted? Instead you could take care of it in the model using the before_save (or the before_validation) callback. Here's an example of the relevant code for a model like yours:

class Place < ActiveRecord::Base   before_save do |place|     place.city = place.city.downcase.titleize     place.country = place.country.downcase.titleize   end end

You can also check out the Ruby on Rails guide for more info.

To answer you question more directly, something like this would work:

<%= f.text_field :city, :value => (f.object.city ? f.object.city.titlecase : '') %>

This just means if f.object.city exists, display the titlecase version of it, and if it doesn't display a blank string.

Undefined Symbols error when integrating Apptentive iOS SDK via Cocoapods

We have found that adding the Apptentive cocoa pod to an existing Xcode project may potentially not include some of our required frameworks.

Check your linker flags:

Target > Build Settings > Other Linker Flags

You should see -lApptentiveConnect listed as a linker flag:

  • CoreTelephony
  • Foundation
  • QuartzCore
  • StoreKit
  • SystemConfiguration
  • UIKit

How to do perspective fixing?

The simple solution is to just remap coordinates from the original to the final image, copying pixels from one coordinate space to the other, rounding off as necessary -- which may result in some pixels being copied several times adjacent to each other, and other pixels being skipped, depending on whether you're stretching or shrinking (or both) in either dimension. Make sure your copying iterates through the destination space, so all pixels are covered there even if they're painted more than once, rather than thru the source which may skip pixels in the output.

The better solution involves calculating the corresponding source coordinate without rounding, and then using its fractional position between pixels to compute an appropriate average of the (typically) four pixels surrounding that location. This is essentially a filtering operation, so you lose some resolution -- but the result looks a LOT better to the human eye; it does a much better job of retaining small details and avoids creating straight-line artifacts which humans find objectionable.

Note that the same basic approach can be used to remap flat images onto any other shape, including 3D surface mapping.

Ruby - ignore "exit" in code

One hackish way to define an exit method in context:

class Bar; def exit; end; end

This works because exit in the initializer will be resolved as self.exit1. In addition, this approach allows using the object after it has been created, as in: b = B.new.

But really, one shouldn't be doing this: don't have exit (or even puts) there to begin with.

(And why is there an "infinite" loop and/or user input in an intiailizer? This entire problem is primarily the result of poorly structured code.)

1 Remember Kernel#exit is only a method. Since Kernel is included in every Object, then it's merely the case that exit normally resolves to Object#exit. However, this can be changed by introducing an overridden method as shown - nothing fancy.

String index out of range: 4

You are using the wrong iteration counter, replace inp.charAt(i) with inp.charAt(j).

Keep placeholder text in UITextField on input in IOS

Instead of using the placeholder text, you'll want to set the actual text property of the field to MM/YYYY, set the delegate of the text field and listen for this method:

- (BOOL)textField:(UITextField *)textField shouldChangeCharactersInRange:(NSRange)range replacementString:(NSString *)string {     // update the text of the label }

Inside that method, you can figure out what the user has typed as they type, which will allow you to update the label accordingly.

python variable NameError

Your if statements are checking for int values. raw_input returns a string. Change the following line:

tSizeAns = raw_input()

to

tSizeAns = int(raw_input())

Pass PDO prepared statement to variables

Instead of using ->bindParam() you can pass the data only at the time of ->execute():

$data = [   ':item_name' => $_POST['item_name'],   ':item_type' => $_POST['item_type'],   ':item_price' => $_POST['item_price'],   ':item_description' => $_POST['item_description'],   ':image_location' => 'images/'.$_FILES['file']['name'],   ':status' => 0,   ':id' => 0, ];  $stmt->execute($data);

In this way you would know exactly what values are going to be sent.

Why my regexp for hyphenated words doesn't work?

This regex should do it.

\b[a-z]+-[a-z]+\b

\b indicates a word-boundary.

AngularJs directive not updating another directive's scope

Just wondering why you are using 2 directives?

It seems like, in this case it would be more straightforward to have a controller as the parent - handle adding the data from your service to its $scope, and pass the model you need from there into your warrantyDirective.

Or for that matter, you could use 0 directives to achieve the same result. (ie. move all functionality out of the separate directives and into a single controller).

It doesn't look like you're doing any explicit DOM transformation here, so in this case, perhaps using 2 directives is overcomplicating things.

Alternatively, have a look at the Angular documentation for directives: http://docs.angularjs.org/guide/directive The very last example at the bottom of the page explains how to wire up dependent directives.

Passing multiple values for same variable in stored procedure

You will need to do a couple of things to get this going, since your parameter is getting multiple values you need to create a Table Type and make your store procedure accept a parameter of that type.

Split Function Works Great when you are getting One String containing multiple values but when you are passing Multiple values you need to do something like this....

TABLE TYPE

CREATE TYPE dbo.TYPENAME AS TABLE ( arg int ) GO

Stored Procedure to Accept That Type Param

 CREATE PROCEDURE mainValues @TableParam TYPENAME READONLY AS BEGIN SET NOCOUNT ON; --Temp table to store split values declare @tmp_values table ( value nvarchar(255) not null); --function splitting values INSERT INTO @tmp_values (value) SELECT arg FROM @TableParam SELECT * FROM @tmp_values --<-- For testing purpose END

EXECUTE PROC

Declare a variable of that type and populate it with your values.

 DECLARE @Table TYPENAME --<-- Variable of this TYPE INSERT INTO @Table --<-- Populating the variable VALUES (331),(222),(876),(932) EXECUTE mainValues @Table --<-- Stored Procedure Executed

Result

╔═══════╗ ║ value ║ ╠═══════╣ ║   331 ║ ║   222 ║ ║   876 ║ ║   932 ║ ╚═══════╝

grep's at sign caught as whitespace

No -P needed; -E is sufficient:

grep -E '(^|\s)abc(\s|$)'

or even without -E:

grep '\(^\|\s\)abc\(\s\|$\)'

Hide Signs that Meteor.js was Used

The amount of hacks you would need to go through to completely hide the fact your site is built by Meteor.js is absolutely ridiculous. You would have to strip essentially all core functionality and just serve straight up html, completely defeating the purpose of using the framework anyway.

That being said, I suggest looking at buildwith.com

You enter a url, and it reveals a ton of information about a site. If you only need to "fool" engines like this, there may be simple solutions.

Gradle - Move a folder from ABC to XYZ

Your task declaration is incorrectly combining the Copy task type and project.copy method, resulting in a task that has nothing to copy and thus never runs. Besides, Copy isn't the right choice for renaming a directory. There is no Gradle API for renaming, but a bit of Groovy code (leveraging Java's File API) will do. Assuming Project1 is the project directory:

task renABCToXYZ {     doLast {         file("ABC").renameTo(file("XYZ"))     } }

Looking at the bigger picture, it's probably better to add the renaming logic (i.e. the doLast task action) to the task that produces ABC.

Implement specialization in ER diagram

So I assume your permissions table has a foreign key reference to admin_accounts table. If so because of referential integrity you will only be able to add permissions for account ids exsiting in the admin accounts table. Which also means that you wont be able to enter a user_account_id [assuming there are no duplicates!]

concat yesterdays date with a specific time

where date_dt = to_date(to_char(sysdate-1, 'YYYY-MM-DD') || ' 19:16:08', 'YYYY-MM-DD HH24:MI:SS')

should work.

Comparing a variable with a string python not working when redirecting from bash script

When you read() the file, you may get a newline character '\n' in your string. Try either

if UserInput.strip() == 'List contents':

or

if 'List contents' in UserInput:

Also note that your second file open could also use with:

with open('/Users/.../USER_INPUT.txt', 'w+') as UserInputFile:     if UserInput.strip() == 'List contents': # or if s in f:         UserInputFile.write("ls")     else:         print "Didn't work"

getting " (1) no such column: _id10 " error

I think you missed a equal sign at:

Cursor c = ourDatabase.query(DATABASE_TABLE, column, KEY_ROWID + "" + l, null, null, null, null);

Change to:

Cursor c = ourDatabase.query(DATABASE_TABLE, column, KEY_ROWID + " = " + l, null, null, null, null);

Accessing AppDelegate from framework?

If you're creating a framework the whole idea is to make it portable. Tying a framework to the app delegate defeats the purpose of building a framework. What is it you need the app delegate for?

Xml Parsing in C#

First add an Enrty and Category class:

public class Entry {     public string Id { get; set; }     public string Title { get; set; }     public string Updated { get; set; }     public string Summary { get; set; }     public string GPoint { get; set; }     public string GElev { get; set; }     public List<string> Categories { get; set; } }  public class Category {     public string Label { get; set; }     public string Term { get; set; } }

Then use LINQ to XML

XDocument xDoc = XDocument.Load("path");          List<Entry> entries = (from x in xDoc.Descendants("entry")             select new Entry()             {                 Id = (string) x.Element("id"),                 Title = (string)x.Element("title"),                 Updated = (string)x.Element("updated"),                 Summary = (string)x.Element("summary"),                 GPoint = (string)x.Element("georss:point"),                 GElev = (string)x.Element("georss:elev"),                 Categories = (from c in x.Elements("category")                                   select new Category                                   {                                       Label = (string)c.Attribute("label"),                                       Term = (string)c.Attribute("term")                                   }).ToList();             }).ToList();

Instantiating a generic type

You basically have two choices:

1.Require an instance:

public Navigation(T t) {     this("", "", t); }

2.Require a class instance:

public Navigation(Class<T> c) {     this("", "", c.newInstance()); }

You could use a factory pattern, but ultimately you'll face this same issue, but just push it elsewhere in the code.

Does the target directory for a git clone have to match the repo name?

Yes, it is possible:

git clone https://github.com/pitosalas/st3_packages Packages

You can specify the local root directory when using git clone.

<directory>

The name of a new directory to clone into.
The "humanish" part of the source repository is used if no directory is explicitly given (repo for /path/to/repo.git and foo for host.xz:foo/.git).
Cloning into an existing directory is only allowed if the directory is empty.

As Chris comments, you can then rename that top directory.
Git only cares about the .git within said top folder, which you can get with various commands:

git rev-parse --show-toplevel git rev-parse --git-dir

When to create variables (memory management)

So notice variables are on the stack, the values they refer to are on the heap. So having variables is not too bad but yes they do create references to other entities. However in the simple case you describe it's not really any consequence. If it is never read again and within a contained scope, the compiler will probably strip it out before runtime. Even if it didn't the garbage collector will be able to safely remove it after the stack squashes. If you are running into issues where you have too many stack variables, it's usually because you have really deep stacks. The amount of stack space needed per thread is a better place to adjust than to make your code unreadable. The setting to null is also no longer needed

OS X Sprite Kit Game Optimal Default Window Size

You should target the smallest, not the largest, supported pixel resolution by the devices your app can run on.

Say if there's an actual Mac computer that can run OS X 10.9 and has a native screen resolution of only 1280x720 then that's the resolution you should focus on. Any higher and your game won't correctly run on this device and you could as well remove that device from your supported devices list.

You can rely on upscaling to match larger screen sizes, but you can't rely on downscaling to preserve possibly important image details such as text or smaller game objects.

The next most important step is to pick a fitting aspect ratio, be it 4:3 or 16:9 or 16:10, that ideally is the native aspect ratio on most of the supported devices. Make sure your game only scales to fit on devices with a different aspect ratio.

You could scale to fill but then you must ensure that on all devices the cropped areas will not negatively impact gameplay or the use of the app in general (ie text or buttons outside the visible screen area). This will be harder to test as you'd actually have to have one of those devices or create a custom build that crops the view accordingly.

Alternatively you can design multiple versions of your game for specific and very common screen resolutions to provide the best game experience from 13" through 27" displays. Optimized designs for iMac (desktop) and a Macbook (notebook) devices make the most sense, it'll be harder to justify making optimized versions for 13" and 15" plus 21" and 27" screens.

But of course this depends a lot on the game. For example a tile-based world game could simply provide a larger viewing area onto the world on larger screen resolutions rather than scaling the view up. Provided that this does not alter gameplay, like giving the player an unfair advantage (specifically in multiplayer).

You should provide @2x images for the Retina Macbook Pro and future Retina Macs.

How to get parameter value for date/time column from empty MaskedTextBox

You're storing the .Text properties of the textboxes directly into the database, this doesn't work. The .Text properties are Strings (i.e. simple text) and not typed as DateTime instances. Do the conversion first, then it will work.

Do this for each date parameter:

Dim bookIssueDate As DateTime = DateTime.ParseExact( txtBookDateIssue.Text, "dd/MM/yyyy", CultureInfo.InvariantCulture ) cmd.Parameters.Add( New OleDbParameter("@Date_Issue", bookIssueDate ) )

Note that this code will crash/fail if a user enters an invalid date, e.g. "64/48/9999", I suggest using DateTime.TryParse or DateTime.TryParseExact, but implementing that is an exercise for the reader.

How to create a showdown.js markdown extension

In your last block you have a comma after 'lang', followed immediately with a function. This is not valid json.

EDIT

It appears that the readme was incorrect. I had to to pass an array with the string 'twitter'.

var converter = new Showdown.converter({extensions: ['twitter']}); converter.makeHtml('whatever @meandave2020'); // output "<p>whatever <a href="http://twitter.com/meandave2020">@meandave2020</a></p>"

SQL permissions for roles

SQL-Server follows the principle of "Least Privilege" -- you must (explicitly) grant permissions.

'does it mean that they wont be able to update 4 and 5 ?'

If your users in the doctor role are only in the doctor role, then yes.

However, if those users are also in other roles (namely, other roles that do have access to 4 & 5), then no.

Difference between opening a file in binary vs text

The link you gave does actually describe the differences, but it's buried at the bottom of the page:

http://www.cplusplus.com/reference/cstdio/fopen/

Text files are files containing sequences of lines of text. Depending on the environment where the application runs, some special character conversion may occur in input/output operations in text mode to adapt them to a system-specific text file format. Although on some environments no conversions occur and both text files and binary files are treated the same way, using the appropriate mode improves portability.

The conversion could be to normalize \r\n to \n (or vice-versa), or maybe ignoring characters beyond 0x7F (a-la 'text mode' in FTP). Personally I'd open everything in binary-mode and use a good text-encoding library for dealing with text.

Please help me convert this script to a simple image slider

Problems only surface when I am I trying to give the first loaded content an active state

Does this mean that you want to add a class to the first button?

$('.o-links').click(function(e) {   // ... }).first().addClass('O_Nav_Current');

instead of using IDs for the slider's items and resetting html contents you can use classes and indexes:

CSS:

.image-area {     width: 100%;     height: auto;     display: none; }  .image-area:first-of-type {     display: block; }

JavaScript:

var $slides = $('.image-area'),     $btns = $('a.o-links');  $btns.on('click', function (e) {     var i = $btns.removeClass('O_Nav_Current').index(this);     $(this).addClass('O_Nav_Current');      $slides.filter(':visible').fadeOut(1000, function () {         $slides.eq(i).fadeIn(1000);     });      e.preventDefault();  }).first().addClass('O_Nav_Current');

String method cannot be found in a main class method

It seem like your Resort method doesn't declare a compareTo method. This method typically belongs to the Comparable interface. Make sure your class implements it.

Additionally, the compareTo method is typically implemented as accepting an argument of the same type as the object the method gets invoked on. As such, you shouldn't be passing a String argument, but rather a Resort.

Alternatively, you can compare the names of the resorts. For example

if (resortList[mid].getResortName().compareTo(resortName)>0)

Autoresize View When SubViews are Added

Yes, it is because you are using auto layout. Setting the view frame and resizing mask will not work.

You should read Working with Auto Layout Programmatically and Visual Format Language.

You will need to get the current constraints, add the text field, adjust the contraints for the text field, then add the correct constraints on the text field.

Parameter binding on left joins with array in Laravel Query Builder

You don't have to bind parameters if you use query builder or eloquent ORM. However, if you use DB::raw(), ensure that you binding the parameters.

Try the following:

$array = array(1,2,3);       $query = DB::table('offers');             $query->select('id', 'business_id', 'address_id', 'title', 'details', 'value', 'total_available', 'start_date', 'end_date', 'terms', 'type', 'coupon_code', 'is_barcode_available', 'is_exclusive', 'userinformations_id', 'is_used');             $query->leftJoin('user_offer_collection', function ($join) use ($array)             {                 $join->on('user_offer_collection.offers_id', '=', 'offers.id')                       ->whereIn('user_offer_collection.user_id', $array);             });       $query->get();

Warp \ bend effect on a UIView?

What you show looks like a mesh warp. That would be straightforward using OpenGL, but "straightforward OpenGL" is like straightforward rocket science.

I wrote an iOS app for my company called Face Dancerthat's able to do 60 fps mesh warp animations of video from the built-in camera using OpenGL, but it was a lot of work. (It does funhouse mirror type changes to faces - think "fat booth" live, plus lots of other effects.)

Why there is this "clear" class before footer?

A class in HTML means that in order to set attributes to it in CSS, you simply need to add a period in front of it.
For example, the CSS code of that html code may be:

.clear {     height: 50px;     width: 25px; }

Also, if you, as suggested by abiessu, are attempting to add the CSS clear: both; attribute to the div to prevent anything from floating to the left or right of this div, you can use this CSS code:

.clear {     clear: both; }

Generic XSLT Search and Replace template

Here's one way in XSLT 2

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <xsl:stylesheet version="2.0" xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform">   <xsl:template match="@*|node()">     <xsl:copy>       <xsl:apply-templates select="@*|node()"/>     </xsl:copy>   </xsl:template>   <xsl:template match="text()">     <xsl:value-of select="translate(.,'&quot;','''')"/>   </xsl:template> </xsl:stylesheet>

Doing it in XSLT1 is a little more problematic as it's hard to get a literal containing a single apostrophe, so you have to resort to a variable:

<xsl:stylesheet version="1.0" xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform">   <xsl:template match="@*|node()">     <xsl:copy>       <xsl:apply-templates select="@*|node()"/>     </xsl:copy>   </xsl:template>   <xsl:variable name="apos">'</xsl:variable>   <xsl:template match="text()">     <xsl:value-of select="translate(.,'&quot;',$apos)"/>   </xsl:template> </xsl:stylesheet>

Are all Spring Framework Java Configuration injection examples buggy?

In your test, you are comparing the two TestParent beans, not the single TestedChild bean.

Also, Spring proxies your @Configuration class so that when you call one of the @Bean annotated methods, it caches the result and always returns the same object on future calls.

I need to know how to get my program to output the word i typed in and also the new rearranged word using a 2D array

  1. What exactly doesn't work?
  2. Why are you using a 2d array?
  3. If you must use a 2d array:

    int numOfPairs = 10;  String[][] array = new String[numOfPairs][2]; for(int i = 0; i < array.length; i++){     for(int j = 0; j < array[i].length; j++){         array[i] = new String[2];         array[i][0] = "original word";         array[i][1] = "rearranged word";     }    }

Does this give you a hint?

Summing radio input values

Your javascript is executed before the HTML is generated, so it doesn't "see" the ungenerated INPUT elements. For jQuery, you would either stick the Javascript at the end of the HTML or wrap it like this:

<script type="text/javascript">   $(function() { //jQuery trick to say after all the HTML is parsed.     $("input[type=radio]").click(function() {       var total = 0;       $("input[type=radio]:checked").each(function() {         total += parseFloat($(this).val());       });        $("#totalSum").val(total);     });   }); </script>

You can use customValidity

Zipping a file in bash fails

Run dos2unix or similar utility on it to remove the carriage returns (^M).

This message indicates that your file has dos-style lineendings:

-bash: /backup/backup.sh: /bin/bash^M: bad interpreter: No such file or directory

Utilities like dos2unix will fix it:

 dos2unix <backup.bash >improved-backup.sh

Or, if no such utility is installed, you can accomplish the same thing with translate:

tr -d "\015\032" <backup.bash >improved-backup.sh

As for how those characters got there in the first place, @MadPhysicist had some good comments.

is it possible to add colors to python output?

IDLE's console does not support ANSI escape sequences, or any other form of escapes for coloring your output.

You can learn how to talk to IDLE's console directly instead of just treating it like normal stdout and printing to it (which is how it does things like color-coding your syntax), but that's pretty complicated. The idle documentation just tells you the basics of using IDLE itself, and its idlelib library has no documentation (well, there is a single line of documentation—"(New in 2.3) Support library for the IDLE development environment."—if you know where to find it, but that isn't very helpful). So, you need to either read the source, or do a whole lot of trial and error, to even get started.

Alternatively, you can run your script from the command line instead of from IDLE, in which case you can use whatever escape sequences your terminal handles. Most modern terminals will handle at least basic 16/8-color ANSI. Many will handle 16/16, or the expanded xterm-256 color sequences, or even full 24-bit colors. (I believe gnome-terminal is the default for Ubuntu, and in its default configuration it will handle xterm-256, but that's really a question for SuperUser or AskUbuntu.)

Learning to read the termcap entries to know which codes to enter is complicated… but if you only care about a single console—or are willing to just assume "almost everything handles basic 16/8-color ANSI, and anything that doesn't, I don't care about", you can ignore that part and just hardcode them based on, e.g., this page.

Once you know what you want to emit, it's just a matter of putting the codes in the strings before printing them.

But there are libraries that can make this all easier for you. One really nice library, which comes built in with Python, is curses. This lets you take over the terminal and do a full-screen GUI, with colors and spinning cursors and anything else you want. It is a little heavy-weight for simple uses, of course. Other libraries can be found by searching PyPI, as usual.

Read input from a JOptionPane.showInputDialog box

Your problem is that, if the user clicks cancel, operationType is null and thus throws a NullPointerException. I would suggest that you move

if (operationType.equalsIgnoreCase("Q"))

to the beginning of the group of if statements, and then change it to

if(operationType==null||operationType.equalsIgnoreCase("Q")).

This will make the program exit just as if the user had selected the quit option when the cancel button is pushed.

Then, change all the rest of the ifs to else ifs. This way, once the program sees whether or not the input is null, it doesn't try to call anything else on operationType. This has the added benefit of making it more efficient - once the program sees that the input is one of the options, it won't bother checking it against the rest of them.

Cannot retrieve string(s) from preferences (settings)

All your exercise conditionals are separate and the else is only tied to the last if statement. Use else if to bind them all together in the way I believe you intend.

strange error in my Animation Drawable

Looks like whatever is in your Animation Drawable definition is too much memory to decode and sequence. The idea is that it loads up all the items and make them in an array and swaps them in and out of the scene according to the timing specified for each frame.

If this all can't fit into memory, it's probably better to either do this on your own with some sort of handler or better yet just encode a movie with the specified frames at the corresponding images and play the animation through a video codec.

Two Page Login with Spring Security 3.2.x

There should be three pages here:

  1. Initial login page with a form that asks for your username, but not your password.
  2. You didn't mention this one, but I'd check whether the client computer is recognized, and if not, then challenge the user with either a CAPTCHA or else a security question. Otherwise the phishing site can simply use the tendered username to query the real site for the security image, which defeats the purpose of having a security image. (A security question is probably better here since with a CAPTCHA the attacker could have humans sitting there answering the CAPTCHAs to get at the security images. Depends how paranoid you want to be.)
  3. A page after that that displays the security image and asks for the password.

I don't see this short, linear flow being sufficiently complex to warrant using Spring Web Flow.

I would just use straight Spring Web MVC for steps 1 and 2. I wouldn't use Spring Security for the initial login form, because Spring Security's login form expects a password and a login processing URL. Similarly, Spring Security doesn't provide special support for CAPTCHAs or security questions, so you can just use Spring Web MVC once again.

You can handle step 3 using Spring Security, since now you have a username and a password. The form login page should display the security image, and it should include the user-provided username as a hidden form field to make Spring Security happy when the user submits the login form. The only way to get to step 3 is to have a successful POST submission on step 1 (and 2 if applicable).

Hadoop MapReduce: Strange Result when Storing Previous Value in Memory in a Reduce Class (Java)

It is very inefficient to store all values in memory, so the objects are reused and loaded one at a time. See this other SO question for a good explanation. Summary:

[...] when looping through the Iterable value list, each Object instance is re-used, so it only keeps one instance around at a given time.

How can compare-and-swap be used for a wait-free mutual exclusion for any shared data structure?

The linked list holds operations on the shared data structure.

For example, if I have a stack, it will be manipulated with pushes and pops. The linked list would be a set of pushes and pops on the pseudo-shared stack. Each thread sharing that stack will actually have a local copy, and to get to the current shared state, it'll walk the linked list of operations, and apply each operation in order to its local copy of the stack. When it reaches the end of the linked list, its local copy holds the current state (though, of course, it's subject to becoming stale at any time).

In the traditional model, you'd have some sort of locks around each push and pop. Each thread would wait to obtain a lock, then do a push or pop, then release the lock.

In this model, each thread has a local snapshot of the stack, which it keeps synchronized with other threads' view of the stack by applying the operations in the linked list. When it wants to manipulate the stack, it doesn't try to manipulate it directly at all. Instead, it simply adds its push or pop operation to the linked list, so all the other threads can/will see that operation and they can all stay in sync. Then, of course, it applies the operations in the linked list, and when (for example) there's a pop it checks which thread asked for the pop. It uses the popped item if and only if it's the thread that requested this particular pop.

How do I hide the PHP explode delimiter from submitted form results?

Instead of adding the line breaks with nl2br() and then removing the line breaks with explode(), try using the line break character '\r' or '\n' or '\r\n'.

<?php     $options= file_get_contents("employees.txt");     $options=explode("\n",$options);        // try \r as well.      foreach ($options as $singleOption){         echo "<option value='".$singleOption."'>".$singleOption."</option>";     }   ?>

This could also fix the issue if the problem was due to Google Spreadsheets reading the line breaks.

Problems with installation of Google App Engine SDK for php in OS X

It's likely that the download was corrupted if you are getting an error with the disk image. Go back to the downloads page at https://developers.google.com/appengine/downloads and look at the SHA1 checksum. Then, go to your Terminal app on your mac and run the following:

openssl sha1 [put the full path to the file here without brackets]

For example:

openssl sha1 /Users/me/Desktop/myFile.dmg

If you get a different value than the one on the Downloads page, you know your file is not properly downloaded and you should try again.

How is VIP swapping + CNAMEs better than IP swapping + A records?

A VIP swap is an internal change to Azure's routers/load balancers, not an external DNS change. They're just routing traffic to go from one internal [set of] server[s] to another instead. Therefore the DNS info for mysite.cloudapp.net doesn't change at all. Therefore the change for people accessing via the IP bound to mysite.cloudapp.net (and CNAME'd by you) will see the change as soon as the VIP swap is complete.

Uploading into folder in FTP?

The folder is part of the URL you set when you create request: "ftp://www.contoso.com/test.htm". If you use "ftp://www.contoso.com/wibble/test.htm" then the file will be uploaded to a folder named wibble.

You may need to first use a request with Method = WebRequestMethods.Ftp.MakeDirectory to make the wibble folder if it doesn't already exist.

Speech input for visually impaired users without the need to tap the screen

The only way to get the iOS dictation is to sign up yourself through Nuance: http://dragonmobile.nuancemobiledeveloper.com/ - it's expensive, because it's the best. Presumably, Apple's contract prevents them from exposing an API.

The built in iOS accessibility features allow immobilized users to access dictation (and other keyboard buttons) through tools like VoiceOver and Assistive Touch. It may not be worth reinventing this if your users might be familiar with these tools.

Getting all files in directory with ajax

Javascript which runs on the client machine can't access the local disk file system due to security restrictions.

If you want to access the client's disk file system then look into an embedded client application which you serve up from your webpage, like an Applet, Silverlight or something like that. If you like to access the server's disk file system, then look for the solution in the server side corner using a server side programming language like Java, PHP, etc, whatever your webserver is currently using/supporting.

how to put image in a bundle and pass it to another activity

So you can do it like this, but the limitation with the Parcelables is that the payload between activities has to be less than 1MB total. It's usually better to save the Bitmap to a file and pass the URI to the image to the next activity.

 protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {     setContentView(R.layout.my_layout);     Bitmap bitmap = getIntent().getParcelableExtra("image");     ImageView imageView = (ImageView) findViewById(R.id.imageview);     imageView.setImageBitmap(bitmap);  }

Call japplet from jframe

First of all, Applets are designed to be run from within the context of a browser (or applet viewer), they're not really designed to be added into other containers.

Technically, you can add a applet to a frame like any other component, but personally, I wouldn't. The applet is expecting a lot more information to be available to it in order to allow it to work fully.

Instead, I would move all of the "application" content to a separate component, like a JPanel for example and simply move this between the applet or frame as required...

ps- You can use f.setLocationRelativeTo(null) to center the window on the screen ;)

Updated

You need to go back to basics. Unless you absolutely must have one, avoid applets until you understand the basics of Swing, case in point...

Within the constructor of GalzyTable2 you are doing...

JApplet app = new JApplet(); add(app); app.init(); app.start();

...Why are you adding another applet to an applet??

Case in point...

Within the main method, you are trying to add the instance of JFrame to itself...

f.getContentPane().add(f, button2);

Instead, create yourself a class that extends from something like JPanel, add your UI logical to this, using compound components if required.

Then, add this panel to whatever top level container you need.

You also seem to have a lack of understanding about how to use layout managers.

Take the time to read through Creating a GUI with Swing and Laying components out in a container

FragmentActivity to Fragment

first of all;

a Fragment must be inside a FragmentActivity, that's the first rule,

a FragmentActivity is quite similar to a standart Activity that you already know, besides having some Fragment oriented methods

second thing about Fragments, is that there is one important method you MUST call, wich is onCreateView, where you inflate your layout, think of it as the setContentLayout

here is an example:

    @Override public View onCreateView(LayoutInflater inflater, ViewGroup container, Bundle savedInstanceState) {     mView       = inflater.inflate(R.layout.fragment_layout, container, false);       return mView; }

and continu your work based on that mView, so to find a View by id, call mView.findViewById(..);

for the FragmentActivity part:

the xml part "must" have a FrameLayout in order to inflate a fragment in it

        <FrameLayout             android:id="@+id/content_frame"             android:layout_width="match_parent"             android:layout_height="match_parent"  >         </FrameLayout>

as for the inflation part

getSupportFragmentManager().beginTransaction().replace(R.id.content_frame, new YOUR_FRAGMENT, "TAG").commit();

begin with these, as there is tons of other stuf you must know about fragments and fragment activities, start of by reading something about it (like life cycle) at the android developer site

RegisterStartupScript from code behind not working when Update Panel is used

You need to use ScriptManager.RegisterStartupScript for Ajax.

protected void ButtonPP_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) {     if (radioBtnACO.SelectedIndex < 0)     {         string csname1 = "PopupScript";          var cstext1 = new StringBuilder();         cstext1.Append("alert('Please Select Criteria!')");          ScriptManager.RegisterStartupScript(this, GetType(), csname1,             cstext1.ToString(), true);     } }

Why does calling sumr on a stream with 50 tuples not complete

sumr is implemented in terms of foldRight:

 final def sumr(implicit A: Monoid[A]): A = F.foldRight(self, A.zero)(A.append)

foldRight is not always tail recursive, so you can overflow the stack if the collection is too long. See Why foldRight and reduceRight are NOT tail recursive? for some more discussion of when this is or isn't true.

Real time face detection OpenCV, Python

Your line:

img = cv2.rectangle(img,(x,y),(x+w,y+h),(255,0,0),2)

will draw a rectangle in the image, but the return value will be None, so img changes to None and cannot be drawn.

Try

cv2.rectangle(img,(x,y),(x+w,y+h),(255,0,0),2)

vagrant primary box defined but commands still run against all boxes

The primary flag seems to only work for vagrant ssh for me.

In the past I have used the following method to hack around the issue.

# stage box intended for configuration closely matching production if ARGV[1] == 'stage' config.vm.define "stage" do |stage| box_setup stage, \ "10.9.8.31", "deploy/playbook_full_stack.yml", "deploy/hosts/vagrant_stage.yml" end end

500 Error on AppHarbor but downloaded build works on my machine

Just a wild guess: (not much to go on) but I have had similar problems when, for example, I was using the IIS rewrite module on my local machine (and it worked fine), but when I uploaded to a host that did not have that add-on module installed, I would get a 500 error with very little to go on - sounds similar. It drove me crazy trying to find it.

So make sure whatever options/addons that you might have and be using locally in IIS are also installed on the host.

Similarly, make sure you understand everything that is being referenced/used in your web.config - that is likely the problem area.

Laravel 4 with Sentry 2 add user to a group on Registration

Somehow, where you are using Sentry, you're not using its Facade, but the class itself. When you call a class through a Facade you're not really using statics, it's just looks like you are.

Do you have this:

use Cartalyst\Sentry\Sentry;

In your code?

Ok, but if this line is working for you:

$user = $this->sentry->register(array(     'username' => e($data['username']),     'email' => e($data['email']),      'password' => e($data['password'])     ));

So you already have it instantiated and you can surely do:

$adminGroup = $this->sentry->findGroupById(5);

Drag and drop menuitems

jQuery UI draggable and droppable are the two plugins I would use to achieve this effect. As for the insertion marker, I would investigate modifying the div (or container) element that was about to have content dropped into it. It should be possible to modify the border in some way or add a JavaScript/jQuery listener that listens for the hover (element about to be dropped) event and modifies the border or adds an image of the insertion marker in the right place.

make UITableViewCell selectable only while editing

Have you tried setting the selection properties of your tableView like this:

tableView.allowsMultipleSelection = NO; tableView.allowsMultipleSelectionDuringEditing = YES; tableView.allowsSelection = NO; tableView.allowsSelectionDuringEditing YES;

If you want more fine-grain control over when selection is allowed you can override - (NSIndexPath *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView willSelectRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath in your UITableView delegate. The documentation states:

Return Value An index-path object that confirms or alters the selected row. Return an NSIndexPath object other than indexPath if you want another cell to be selected. Return nil if you don't want the row selected.

You can have this method return nil in cases where you don't want the selection to happen.

Rails 2.3.4 Persisting Model on Validation Failure

In your controller, render the new action from your create action if validation fails, with an instance variable, @car populated from the user input (i.e., the params hash). Then, in your view, add a logic check (either an if block around the form or a ternary on the helpers, your choice) that automatically sets the value of the form fields to the params values passed in to @car if car exists. That way, the form will be blank on first visit and in theory only be populated on re-render in the case of error. In any case, they will not be populated unless @car is set.

Is it possible to execute multiple _addItem calls asynchronously using Google Analytics?

From the docs:

_trackTrans() Sends both the transaction and item data to the Google Analytics server. This method should be called after _trackPageview(), and used in conjunction with the _addItem() and addTrans() methods. It should be called after items and transaction elements have been set up.

So, according to the docs, the items get sent when you call trackTrans(). Until you do, you can add items, but the transaction will not be sent.

Edit: Further reading led me here:

http://www.analyticsmarket.com/blog/edit-ecommerce-data

Where it clearly says you can start another transaction with an existing ID. When you commit it, the new items you listed will be added to that transaction.

php & mysql query not echoing in html with tags?

Change <?php echo $proxy ?> to ' . $proxy . '.

You use <?php when you're outputting HTML by leaving PHP mode with ?>. When you using echo, you have to use concatenation, or wrap your string in double quotes and use interpolation.

Comparing two joda DateTime instances

This code (example) :

    Chronology ch1 = GregorianChronology.getInstance();     Chronology ch2 = ISOChronology.getInstance();      DateTime dt = new DateTime("2013-12-31T22:59:21+01:00",ch1);     DateTime dt2 = new DateTime("2013-12-31T22:59:21+01:00",ch2);      System.out.println(dt);     System.out.println(dt2);      boolean b = dt.equals(dt2);      System.out.println(b);

Will print :

2013-12-31T16:59:21.000-05:00 2013-12-31T16:59:21.000-05:00 false

You are probably comparing two DateTimes with same date but different Chronology.

How do I show a message in the foreach loop?

You are looking to see if a single value is in an array. Use in_array.

However note that case is important, as are any leading or trailing spaces. Use var_dump to find out the length of the strings too, and see if they fit.

xlrd.biffh.XLRDError: Excel xlsx file; not supported

As noted in the release email, linked to from the release tweet and noted in large orange warning that appears on the front page of the documentation, and less orange, but still present, in the readme on the repository and the release on pypi:

xlrd has explicitly removed support for anything other than xls files.

In your case, the solution is to:

  • make sure you are on a recent version of Pandas, at least 1.0.1, and preferably the latest release. 1.2 will make his even clearer.
  • install openpyxl: https://openpyxl.readthedocs.io/en/stable/
  • change your Pandas code to be:
    df1 = pd.read_excel(
         os.path.join(APP_PATH, "Data", "aug_latest.xlsm"),
         engine='openpyxl',
    )

Error: Node Sass version 5.0.0 is incompatible with ^4.0.0

TL;DR

  1. npm uninstall node-sass
  2. npm install [email protected]

Or, if using yarn (default in newer CRA versions)

  1. yarn remove node-sass
  2. yarn add [email protected]

Edit2: sass-loader v10.0.5 fixes it. Problem is, you might not be using it as a project dependency, but more as a dependency of your dependencies. CRA uses a fixed version, angular-cli locks to node-sass v4 an so on.
The recommendation for now is: if you're installing just node-sass check below workaround (and the note). If you're working on a blank project and you can manage your webpack configuration (not using CRA or a CLI to scaffold your project) install latest sass-loader.

Edit: this error comes from sass-loader. There is a semver mismatch since node-sass @latest is v5.0.0 and sass-loader expects ^4.0.0.
There is an open issue on their repository with an associated fix that needs to be reviewed. Until then, refer to the solution below.

Workaround: don't install node-sass 5.0.0 yet (major version was just bumped).

Uninstall node-sass

npm uninstall node-sass

Then install the latest version (before 5.0)

npm install [email protected]

Note: LibSass (hence node-sass as well) is deprecated and dart-sass is the recommended implementation. You can use sass instead, which is a node distribution of dart-sass compiled to pure JavaScript. Be warned though:

Be careful using this approach. React-scripts uses sass-loader v8, which prefers node-sass to sass (which has some syntax not supported by node-sass). If both are installed and the user worked with sass, this could lead to errors on css compilation

Target class controller does not exist - Laravel 8

You are using Laravel 8. In a fresh install of Laravel 8, there is no namespace prefix being applied to your route groups that your routes are loaded into.

"In previous releases of Laravel, the RouteServiceProvider contained a $namespace property. This property's value would automatically be prefixed onto controller route definitions and calls to the action helper / URL::action method. In Laravel 8.x, this property is null by default. This means that no automatic namespace prefixing will be done by Laravel." Laravel 8.x Docs - Release Notes

You would have to use the Fully Qualified Class Name for your Controllers when referring to them in your routes when not using the namespace prefixing.

use App\Http\Controllers\UserController;

Route::get('/users', [UserController::class, 'index']);
// or
Route::get('/users', 'App\Http\Controllers\UserController@index');

If you prefer the old way:

App\Providers\RouteServiceProvider:

public function boot()
{
    ...

    Route::prefix('api')
        ->middleware('api')
        ->namespace('App\Http\Controllers') // <---------
        ->group(base_path('routes/api.php'));

    ...
}

Do this for any route groups you want a declared namespace for.

The $namespace property:

Though there is a mention of a $namespace property to be set on your RouteServiceProvider in the Release notes and commented in your RouteServiceProvider this does not have any effect on your routes. It is currently only for adding a namespace prefix for generating URLs to actions. So you can set this variable, but it by itself won't add these namespace prefixes, you would still have to make sure you would be using this variable when adding the namespace to the route groups.

This information is now in the Upgrade Guide

Laravel 8.x Docs - Upgrade Guide - Routing

With what the Upgrade Guide is showing the important part is that you are defining a namespace on your routes groups. Setting the $namespace variable by itself only helps in generating URLs to actions.

Again, and I can't stress this enough, the important part is setting the namespace for the route groups, which they just happen to be doing by referencing the member variable $namespace directly in the example.

Update:

If you have installed a fresh copy of Laravel 8 since version 8.0.2 of laravel/laravel you can uncomment the protected $namespace member variable in the RouteServiceProvider to go back to the old way, as the route groups are setup to use this member variable for the namespace for the groups.

// protected $namespace = 'App\\Http\\Controllers';

The only reason uncommenting that would add the namespace prefix to the Controllers assigned to the routes is because the route groups are setup to use this variable as the namespace:

...
->namespace($this->namespace)
...

Xcode 12, building for iOS Simulator, but linking in object file built for iOS, for architecture arm64

iPhone is not available. Please reconnect the device

My experience, yesterday my iOS 13.6 is supported by Xcode 11.7 and now today the Xcode rejected my iPhone and I update the Xcode to version 12 and everything get back on track.

Solution:

Update your Xcode to the latest version.

Hint: there is no need to update iOS.

DevTools failed to load SourceMap: Could not load content for chrome-extension

I resolved this by clearing App Data.

Cypress documentation admits that App Data can get corrupted:

Cypress maintains some local application data in order to save user preferences and more quickly start up. Sometimes this data can become corrupted. You may fix an issue you have by clearing this app data.

  1. Open Cypress via cypress open
  2. Go to File -> View App Data
  3. This will take you to the directory in your file system where your App Data is stored. If you cannot open Cypress, search your file system for a directory named cy whose content should look something like this:

       production
            all.log
            browsers
            bundles
            cache
            projects
            proxy
            state.json

  1. Delete everything in the cy folder
  2. Close Cypress and open it up again

Source: https://docs.cypress.io/guides/references/troubleshooting.html#To-clear-App-Data

When adding a Javascript library, Chrome complains about a missing source map, why?

Also i'd face same kind of problem for kendo Telerk Ui javaScript file. For that you need to do , Unchecked the 'Enable JavaScript source maps' and 'Enable CSS source map' from inspect element as shown in image and Refresh the WebPage.

In setting of Inspect elelment

Unchecked the 'Enable JavaScript
source maps' and 'Enable CSS source map'

SessionNotCreatedException: Message: session not created: This version of ChromeDriver only supports Chrome version 81

The way I solved this issue was quite simple, I checked my chrome version and I had an older chromedriver in my PATH variable, so I downloaded the chromedriver version that matched my browser and replaced the old one in the PATH, so when the webdriver module looked for a chromedriver in my PATH, it would find the matching version

error NG6002: Appears in the NgModule.imports of AppModule, but could not be resolved to an NgModule class

This issue will be fixed by adding the postinstall script below in your package.json.

It will be run after a npm install.

"scripts": {
   "postinstall": "ngcc"
}

Post adding the above code, run npm install

This works for me when upgrading to Angular 9+

error TS1086: An accessor cannot be declared in an ambient context in Angular 9

I solved the same issue by following steps:

Check the angular version: Using command: ng version My angular version is: Angular CLI: 7.3.10

After that I have support version of ngx bootstrap from the link: https://www.npmjs.com/package/ngx-bootstrap

In package.json file update the version: "bootstrap": "^4.5.3", "@ng-bootstrap/ng-bootstrap": "^4.2.2",

Now after updating package.json, use the command npm update

After this use command ng serve and my error got resolved

TS1086: An accessor cannot be declared in ambient context

Quick solution: Update package.json

"devDependencies": {
   ...
   "typescript": "~3.7.4",
 }

In tsconfig.json

{
    ...,
    "angularCompilerOptions": {
       ...,
       "disableTypeScriptVersionCheck": true
    }
}

then remove node_modules folder and reinstall with

npm install

IntelliJ: Error:java: error: release version 5 not supported

If you are using spring boot as a parent, you should set the java.version property, because this will automatically set the correct versions.

<properties>
   <java.version>11</java.version>
</properties>

The property defined in your own project overrides whatever is set in the parent pom. This overrides all needed properties to compile to the correct version.

Replace specific text with a redacted version using Python

You can do it using named-entity recognition (NER). It's fairly simple and there are out-of-the-shelf tools out there to do it, such as spaCy.

NER is an NLP task where a neural network (or other method) is trained to detect certain entities, such as names, places, dates and organizations.

Example:

Sponge Bob went to South beach, he payed a ticket of $200!
I know, Michael is a good person, he goes to McDonalds, but donates to charity at St. Louis street.

Returns:

NER with spacy

Just be aware that this is not 100%!

Here are a little snippet for you to try out:

import spacy

phrases = ['Sponge Bob went to South beach, he payed a ticket of $200!', 'I know, Michael is a good person, he goes to McDonalds, but donates to charity at St. Louis street.']
nlp = spacy.load('en')
for phrase in phrases:
   doc = nlp(phrase)
   replaced = ""
   for token in doc:
      if token in doc.ents:
         replaced+="XXXX "
      else:
         replaced+=token.text+" "

Read more here: https://spacy.io/usage/linguistic-features#named-entities

You could, instead of replacing with XXXX, replace based on the entity type, like:

if ent.label_ == "PERSON":
   replaced += "<PERSON> "

Then:

import re, random

personames = ["Jack", "Mike", "Bob", "Dylan"]

phrase = re.replace("<PERSON>", random.choice(personames), phrase)

Message: Trying to access array offset on value of type null

This happens because $cOTLdata is not null but the index 'char_data' does not exist. Previous versions of PHP may have been less strict on such mistakes and silently swallowed the error / notice while 7.4 does not do this anymore.

To check whether the index exists or not you can use isset():

isset($cOTLdata['char_data'])

Which means the line should look something like this:

$len = isset($cOTLdata['char_data']) ? count($cOTLdata['char_data']) : 0;

Note I switched the then and else cases of the ternary operator since === null is essentially what isset already does (but in the positive case).

Template not provided using create-react-app

Try running your terminal as an administrator. I was having the same issue and nothing helped apart from opening the terminal as administrator and then doing the npx create-react-app yourAppName

Array and string offset access syntax with curly braces is deprecated

It's really simple to fix the issue, however keep in mind that you should fork and commit your changes for each library you are using in their repositories to help others as well.

Let's say you have something like this in your code:

$str = "test";
echo($str{0});

since PHP 7.4 curly braces method to get individual characters inside a string has been deprecated, so change the above syntax into this:

$str = "test";
echo($str[0]);

Fixing the code in the question will look something like this:

public function getRecordID(string $zoneID, string $type = '', string $name = ''): string
{
    $records = $this->listRecords($zoneID, $type, $name);
    if (isset($records->result[0]->id)) {
        return $records->result[0]->id;
    }
    return false;
}

@angular/material/index.d.ts' is not a module

After upgrading to Angular 9 (released today), I ran into this issue as well and found that they made the breaking change mentioned in the answer. I can't find a reason for why they made this change.

I have a material.module.ts file that I import / export all the material components (not the most efficient, but useful for quick development). I went through and updated all my imports to the individual material folders, although an index.ts barrel might be better. Again, not sure why they made this change, but I'm guessing it has to do with tree-shaking efficiencies.

Including my material.module.ts below in case it helps anyone, it's inspired off other material modules I've found:

NOTE: As other blog posts have mentioned and from my personal experience, be careful when using a shared module like below. I have 5~ different feature modules (lazy loaded) in my app that I imported my material module into. Out of curiosity, I stopped using the shared module and instead only imported the individual material components each feature module needed. This reduced my bundle size quite a bit, almost a 200kb reduction. I assumed that the build optimization process would properly drop any component not used by my modules, but it doesn't seem to be the case...

SyntaxError: Cannot use import statement outside a module

If anyone is running into this issue with Typescript, the key to solving it for me was changing

    "target": "esnext",
    "module": "esnext",

to

    "target": "esnext",
    "module": "commonjs",

In my tsconfig.json. I was under the impression "esnext" was the "best", but that was just a mistake.

SameSite warning Chrome 77

To elaborate on Rahul Mahadik's answer, this works for MVC5 C#.NET:

AllowSameSiteAttribute.cs

public class AllowSameSiteAttribute : ActionFilterAttribute
{
    public override void OnActionExecuting(ActionExecutingContext filterContext)
    {
        var response = filterContext.RequestContext.HttpContext.Response;

        if(response != null)
        {
            response.AddHeader("Set-Cookie", "HttpOnly;Secure;SameSite=Strict");
            //Add more headers...
        }

        base.OnActionExecuting(filterContext);
    }
}

HomeController.cs

    [AllowSameSite] //For the whole controller
    public class UserController : Controller
    {
    }

or

    public class UserController : Controller
    {
        [AllowSameSite] //For the method
        public ActionResult Index()
        {
            return View();
        }
    }

What's the net::ERR_HTTP2_PROTOCOL_ERROR about?

I faced this error several times and, it was due to transferring large resources(larger than 3MB) from server to client.

"Uncaught SyntaxError: Cannot use import statement outside a module" when importing ECMAScript 6

I resolved my case by replacing "import" by "require".

// import { parse } from 'node-html-parser';
parse = require('node-html-parser');

Has been compiled by a more recent version of the Java Runtime (class file version 57.0)

I have run into this issue When I recently upgraded my IntelliJ version to 2020.3. I had to disable a plugin to solve this issue. The name of the plugin is Thrift Support.

Steps to disable the plugin is following:

  1. Open the Preferences of IntelliJ. You can do so by clicking on Command + , in mac.
  2. Navigate to plugins.
  3. Search for the Thrift Support plugin in the search window. Click on the tick box icon to deselect it.
  4. Click on the Apply icon.
  5. See this image for reference Disable_Thrift_support_plugin

For more detail please refer to this link java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError 2020.3 version intellij. I found this comment in the above link which has worked for me.

How to resolve the error on 'react-native start'

Go to

\node_modules\metro-config\src\defaults\blacklist.js

and replace this

var sharedBlacklist = [
/node_modules[/\\]react[/\\]dist[/\\].*/,
/website\/node_modules\/.*/,
/heapCapture\/bundle\.js/,
/.*\/__tests__\/.*/
];

to

var sharedBlacklist = [
/node_modules[\/\\]react[\/\\]dist[\/\\].*/,
/website\/node_modules\/.*/,
/heapCapture\/bundle\.js/,
/.*\/__tests__\/.*/
];

This is not a best practice and my recommendation is: downgrade node version into 12.9 OR update metro-config since they are fixing the Node issue.

"Permission Denied" trying to run Python on Windows 10

This issue is far too common to still be persistent. And most answers and instructions fail to address it. Here's what to do on Windows 10:

  1. Type environment variables in the start search bar, and open Edit the System Environment Variables.

  2. Click Environment Variables...

  3. In the System Variables section, locate the variable with the key Path and double click it.

  4. Look for paths pointing to python files. Likely there are none. If there are, select and delete them.

  5. Create a new variable set to the path to your python executable. Normally this is C:\Users\[YOUR USERNAME HERE]\AppData\Local\Programs\Python\Python38. Ensure this by checking via your File Explorer.

    Note: If you can't see AppData, it's because you've not enabled viewing of hidden items: click the View tab and tick the Hidden Items checkbox.

  6. Create another variable pointing to the Scripts directory. Typically it is C:\Users\[YOUR USERNAME HERE]\AppData\Local\Programs\Python\Scripts.

  7. Restart your terminal and try typing py, python, python3, or python.exe.

Adding Git-Bash to the new Windows Terminal

Another item to note - in settings.json I discovered if you don't use "commandline": "C:/Program Files/Git/bin/bash.exe"

and instead use: "commandline": "C:/Program Files/Git/git-bash.exe"

the Git shell will open up in an independent window outside of Windows Terminal instead of on a tab - which is not the desired behavior. In addition, the tab in Windows Terminal that opens will also need to be closed manually as it will display process exited information - [process exited with code 3221225786] etc.

"UserWarning: Matplotlib is currently using agg, which is a non-GUI backend, so cannot show the figure." when plotting figure with pyplot on Pycharm

In my case, the error message was implying that I was working in a headless console. So plt.show() could not work. What worked was calling plt.savefig:

plt.plot([1,2,3], [5,7,4])
plt.savefig("mygraph.png")

I found the answer on a github repository.

Typescript: No index signature with a parameter of type 'string' was found on type '{ "A": string; }

You have two options with simple and idiomatic Typescript:

  1. Use index type
DNATranscriber: { [char: string]: string } = {
  G: "C",
  C: "G",
  T: "A",
  A: "U",
};

This is the index signature the error message is talking about. Reference

  1. Type each property:
DNATranscriber: { G: string; C: string; T: string; A: string } = {
  G: "C",
  C: "G",
  T: "A",
  A: "U",
};

Schema validation failed with the following errors: Data path ".builders['app-shell']" should have required property 'class'

Try to update the package.json file so that "@angular-devkit/build-angular": "^0.800.1" reads "@angular-devkit/build-angular": "^0.12.4"

Then run npm install in the command line.

Make a VStack fill the width of the screen in SwiftUI

Try using the .frame modifier with the following options:

.frame(minWidth: 0, maxWidth: .infinity, minHeight: 0, maxHeight: .infinity, alignment: .topLeading)
struct ContentView: View {
    var body: some View {
        VStack(alignment: .leading) {
            Text("Hello World").font(.title)
            Text("Another").font(.body)
            Spacer()
        }.frame(minWidth: 0,
                maxWidth: .infinity,
                minHeight: 0,
                maxHeight: .infinity,
                alignment: .topLeading
        ).background(Color.red)
    }
}

This is described as being a flexible frame (see the documentation), which will stretch to fill the whole screen, and when it has extra space it will center its contents inside of it.

How to style components using makeStyles and still have lifecycle methods in Material UI?

Hi instead of using hook API, you should use Higher-order component API as mentioned here

I'll modify the example in the documentation to suit your need for class component

import React from 'react';
import PropTypes from 'prop-types';
import { withStyles } from '@material-ui/styles';
import Button from '@material-ui/core/Button';

const styles = theme => ({
  root: {
    background: 'linear-gradient(45deg, #FE6B8B 30%, #FF8E53 90%)',
    border: 0,
    borderRadius: 3,
    boxShadow: '0 3px 5px 2px rgba(255, 105, 135, .3)',
    color: 'white',
    height: 48,
    padding: '0 30px',
  },
});

class HigherOrderComponentUsageExample extends React.Component {

  render(){
    const { classes } = this.props;
    return (
      <Button className={classes.root}>This component is passed to an HOC</Button>
      );
  }
}

HigherOrderComponentUsageExample.propTypes = {
  classes: PropTypes.object.isRequired,
};

export default withStyles(styles)(HigherOrderComponentUsageExample);

Everyone is focusing on downgrading @angular-devkit/build-angular version to X, or upgrading @angular/cli version to Y or latest.

However, Please do not blindly suggest an X or Y or latest as answers. (Though usually, downgrading devkit should be better because upgrading CLI is a breaking change)

The correct version to choose, always depends on your Angular (angular-cli) version.

Angular CLI v8.3.19 -> 0.803.19
Angular CLI v8.3.17 -> 0.803.17
Angular CLI v7.3.8 -> 0.13.8
Angular CLI v6-lts -> 0.8.9

For other specific versions, visit: https://github.com/angular/angular-cli/tags. Find your CLI version, and in some tags, they do mention the corresponding versions for @angular-devkit/** packages.

Note: If you want to upgrade your CLI version, you should first consider upgrading to latest of your major version, do not simply jump to the next major version.

Why am I getting Unknown error in line 1 of pom.xml?

While I cannot reproduce your error (as none of your team mates can either), I have a suggestion, that might help you.

Have you heard of the Byte Order Mark? As it appears on line 1 it is a likely candidate for your troubles. Maybe you changed a setting somewhere that somehow leads to the error. This quote from the Wikipedia article is particularly relevant I think:

BOM use is optional. Its presence interferes with the use of UTF-8 by software that does not expect non-ASCII bytes at the start of a file but that could otherwise handle the text stream.

What is the incentive for curl to release the library for free?

I'm Daniel Stenberg.

I made curl

I founded the curl project back in 1998, I wrote the initial curl version and I created libcurl. I've written more than half of all the 24,000 commits done in the source code repository up to this point in time. I'm still the lead developer of the project. To a large extent, curl is my baby.

I shipped the first version of curl as open source since I wanted to "give back" to the open source world that had given me so much code already. I had used so much open source and I wanted to be as cool as the other open source authors.

Thanks to it being open source, literally thousands of people have been able to help us out over the years and have improved the products, the documentation. the web site and just about every other detail around the project. curl and libcurl would never have become the products that they are today were they not open source. The list of contributors now surpass 1900 names and currently the list grows with a few hundred names per year.

Thanks to curl and libcurl being open source and liberally licensed, they were immediately adopted in numerous products and soon shipped by operating systems and Linux distributions everywhere thus getting a reach beyond imagination.

Thanks to them being "everywhere", available and liberally licensed they got adopted and used everywhere and by everyone. It created a defacto transfer library standard.

At an estimated six billion installations world wide, we can safely say that curl is the most widely used internet transfer library in the world. It simply would not have gone there had it not been open source. curl runs in billions of mobile phones, a billion Windows 10 installations, in a half a billion games and several hundred million TVs - and more.

Should I have released it with proprietary license instead and charged users for it? It never occured to me, and it wouldn't have worked because I would never had managed to create this kind of stellar project on my own. And projects and companies wouldn't have used it.

Why do I still work on curl?

Now, why do I and my fellow curl developers still continue to develop curl and give it away for free to the world?

  1. I can't speak for my fellow project team members. We all participate in this for our own reasons.
  2. I think it's still the right thing to do. I'm proud of what we've accomplished and I truly want to make the world a better place and I think curl does its little part in this.
  3. There are still bugs to fix and features to add!
  4. curl is free but my time is not. I still have a job and someone still has to pay someone for me to get paid every month so that I can put food on the table for my family. I charge customers and companies to help them with curl. You too can get my help for a fee, which then indirectly helps making sure that curl continues to evolve, remain free and the kick-ass product it is.
  5. curl was my spare time project for twenty years before I started working with it full time. I've had great jobs and worked on awesome projects. I've been in a position of luxury where I could continue to work on curl on my spare time and keep shipping a quality product for free. My work on curl has given me friends, boosted my career and taken me to places I would not have been at otherwise.
  6. I would not do it differently if I could back and do it again.

Am I proud of what we've done?

Yes. So insanely much.

But I'm not satisfied with this and I'm not just leaning back, happy with what we've done. I keep working on curl every single day, to improve, to fix bugs, to add features and to make sure curl keeps being the number one file transfer solution for the world even going forward.

We do mistakes along the way. We make the wrong decisions and sometimes we implement things in crazy ways. But to win in the end and to conquer the world is about patience and endurance and constantly going back and reconsidering previous decisions and correcting previous mistakes. To continuously iterate, polish off rough edges and gradually improve over time.

Never give in. Never stop. Fix bugs. Add features. Iterate. To the end of time.

For real?

Yeah. For real.

Do I ever get tired? Is it ever done?

Sure I get tired at times. Working on something every day for over twenty years isn't a paved downhill road. Sometimes there are obstacles. During times things are rough. Occasionally people are just as ugly and annoying as people can be.

But curl is my life's project and I have patience. I have thick skin and I don't give up easily. The tough times pass and most days are awesome. I get to hang out with awesome people and the reward is knowing that my code helps driving the Internet revolution everywhere is an ego boost above normal.

curl will never be "done" and so far I think work on curl is pretty much the most fun I can imagine. Yes, I still think so even after twenty years in the driver's seat. And as long as I think it's fun I intend to keep at it.

Module 'tensorflow' has no attribute 'contrib'

This issue might be helpful for you, it explains how to achieve TPUStrategy, a popular functionality of tf.contrib in TF<2.0.

So, in TF 1.X you could do the following:

resolver = tf.contrib.cluster_resolver.TPUClusterResolver('grpc://' + os.environ['COLAB_TPU_ADDR'])
tf.contrib.distribute.initialize_tpu_system(resolver)
strategy = tf.contrib.distribute.TPUStrategy(resolver)

And in TF>2.0, where tf.contrib is deprecated, you achieve the same by:

tf.config.experimental_connect_to_host('grpc://' + os.environ['COLAB_TPU_ADDR'])
resolver = tf.distribute.cluster_resolver.TPUClusterResolver('grpc://' + os.environ['COLAB_TPU_ADDR'])
tf.tpu.experimental.initialize_tpu_system(resolver)
strategy = tf.distribute.experimental.TPUStrategy(resolver)

React Hook "useState" is called in function "app" which is neither a React function component or a custom React Hook function

React Hook "useState" is called in function "App" which is neither a React function component or a custom React Hook function"

How to fix missing dependency warning when using useEffect React Hook?

you try this way

const fetchBusinesses = () => {
    return fetch("theURL", {method: "GET"}
    )
      .then(res => normalizeResponseErrors(res))
      .then(res => {
        return res.json();
      })
      .then(rcvdBusinesses => {
        // some stuff
      })
      .catch(err => {
        // some error handling
      });
  };

and

useEffect(() => {
    fetchBusinesses();
  });

it's work for you. But my suggestion is try this way also work for you. It's better than before way. I use this way:

useEffect(() => {
        const fetchBusinesses = () => {
    return fetch("theURL", {method: "GET"}
    )
      .then(res => normalizeResponseErrors(res))
      .then(res => {
        return res.json();
      })
      .then(rcvdBusinesses => {
        // some stuff
      })
      .catch(err => {
        // some error handling
      });
  };
        fetchBusinesses();
      }, []);

if you get data on the base of specific id then add in callback useEffect [id] then cannot show you warning React Hook useEffect has a missing dependency: 'any thing'. Either include it or remove the dependency array

Is it possible to install Xcode 10.2 on High Sierra (10.13.6)?

Based on responses and comments below, the following was the simple solution for my issue and THIS WORKED. Now my app, Match4app, is fully compatible with latest iOS versions!

  1. Download Xcode 10.2 from a direct link (not from App Store). (Estimated Size: ~6Gb)
  2. From the downloaded version just copy/paste the DeviceSupport/12.2 directory into "Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/DeviceSupport"
  3. You can discard the downloaded version now (we just need the small 12.2 directory!)

Unable to load script.Make sure you are either running a Metro server or that your bundle 'index.android.bundle' is packaged correctly for release

Try These steps if you have tried everything mentioned in above solutions:

  1. Create File in android/app/src/main/assets
  2. Run the following command :

react-native bundle --platform android --dev false --entry-file index.js --bundle-output android/app/src/main/assets/index.android.bundle --assets-dest android/app/src/main/res

  1. Now run your command to build for e.g. react-native run-android

Updating Anaconda fails: Environment Not Writable Error

On Windows in general, running command prompt with administrator works. But if you don't want to do that every time, specify Full control permissions of your user (or simply all users) on Anaconda3 directory. Be aware that specifying it for all users allows other users to install their own packages and modify the content.

How to set value to form control in Reactive Forms in Angular

Setting or Updating of Reactive Forms Form Control values can be done using both patchValue and setValue. However, it might be better to use patchValue in some instances.

patchValue does not require all controls to be specified within the parameters in order to update/set the value of your Form Controls. On the other hand, setValue requires all Form Control values to be filled in, and it will return an error if any of your controls are not specified within the parameter.

In this scenario, we will want to use patchValue, since we are only updating user and questioning:

this.qService.editQue([params["id"]]).subscribe(res => {
  this.question = res;
  this.editqueForm.patchValue({
    user: this.question.user,
    questioning: this.question.questioning
  });
});

EDIT: If you feel like doing some of ES6's Object Destructuring, you may be interested to do this instead

const { user, questioning } = this.question;

this.editqueForm.patchValue({
  user,
  questioning
});

Uncaught Invariant Violation: Too many re-renders. React limits the number of renders to prevent an infinite loop

I also have the same problem, and the solution is I didn't bind the event in my onClick. so when it renders for the first time and the data is more, which ends up calling the state setter again, which triggers React to call your function again and so on.

export default function Component(props) {

function clickEvent (event, variable){

            color="inherit"

I have almost the same problems like this, the problems is come inside the pipeline when running my selenium test that need chromedriver package to running the e2e test.

My error build pipeline

The problems is just because in the pipeline (in my case) is having the chrome version 73, and my chromedriver package is installed on version 74.

Finally there are two simple solutions:

  1. Downgrade your chrome
  2. Downgrade your chromedriver package version. in my case, cause i running inside the pipeline i need to install chromedriver before running the selenium test like displayed below.

Tensorflow 2.0 - AttributeError: module 'tensorflow' has no attribute 'Session'

I faced this problem when I first tried python after installing windows10 + python3.7(64bit) + anacconda3 + jupyter notebook.

I solved this problem by refering to "https://vispud.blogspot.com/2019/05/tensorflow200a0-attributeerror-module.html"

I agree with

I believe "Session()" has been removed with TF 2.0.

I inserted two lines. One is tf.compat.v1.disable_eager_execution() and the other is sess = tf.compat.v1.Session()

My Hello.py is as follows:

import tensorflow as tf

tf.compat.v1.disable_eager_execution()

hello = tf.constant('Hello, TensorFlow!')

sess = tf.compat.v1.Session()

print(sess.run(hello))

react hooks useEffect() cleanup for only componentWillUnmount?

function LegoComponent() {

  const [lego, setLegos] = React.useState([])

  React.useEffect(() => {
    let isSubscribed = true
    fetchLegos().then( legos=> {
      if (isSubscribed) {
        setLegos(legos)
      }
    })
    return () => isSubscribed = false
  }, []);

  return (
    <ul>
    {legos.map(lego=> <li>{lego}</li>)}
    </ul>
  )
}

In the code above, the fetchLegos function returns a promise. We can “cancel” the promise by having a conditional in the scope of useEffect, preventing the app from setting state after the component has unmounted.

Warning: Can't perform a React state update on an unmounted component. This is a no-op, but it indicates a memory leak in your application. To fix, cancel all subscriptions and asynchronous tasks in a useEffect cleanup function.

This is the easiest way.

I did not need to open a new notebook. Instead, I reopened the tree, and reconnected the kernel. At some point I also restarted the kernel. – user650654 Oct 9 '19 at 0:17

How to use callback with useState hook in react

You can use like below -

this.setState(() => ({  subChartType1: value   }), () => this.props.dispatch(setChartData(null)));

How can I solve the error 'TS2532: Object is possibly 'undefined'?

With the release of TypeScript 3.7, optional chaining (the ? operator) is now officially available.

As such, you can simplify your expression to the following:

const data = change?.after?.data();

You may read more about it from that version's release notes, which cover other interesting features released on that version.

Run the following to install the latest stable release of TypeScript.

npm install typescript

That being said, Optional Chaining can be used alongside Nullish Coalescing to provide a fallback value when dealing with null or undefined values

const data = change?.after?.data() ?? someOtherData();

Why am I seeing net::ERR_CLEARTEXT_NOT_PERMITTED errors after upgrading to Cordova Android 8?

After reading the whole discussion looking for a way to authorize communication to all IP addresses as in my case the IP address to where the request will be sent is defined by the user in an input text and can not be defined in the configuration file. Here is how I resolved the issue

here are the configuration

        </edit-config>
        <resource-file src="resources/android/xml/network_security_config.xml" target="app/src/main/res/xml/network_security_config.xml" />
...

<network-security-config>
    <base-config cleartextTrafficPermitted="true" />
</network-security-config>

The most important piece of code is <base-config cleartextTrafficPermitted="true" /> in <network-security-config> instead of domain-config

The iOS Simulator deployment targets is set to 7.0, but the range of supported deployment target version for this platform is 8.0 to 12.1

The problem is in your pod files deployment target iOS Version not in your project deployment target iOS Version, so you need to change the deployment iOS version for your pods as well to anything higher than 8.0 to do so open your project workspace and do this:

1- Click on pods.

2- Select each project and target and click on build settings.

3- Under Deployment section change the iOS Deployment Target version to anything more than 8.0 (better to try the same project version).

4- Repeat this for every other project in your pods then run the app.

Flutter Countdown Timer

Here is an example using Timer.periodic :

Countdown starts from 10 to 0 on button click :

import 'dart:async';

[...]

Timer _timer;
int _start = 10;

void startTimer() {
  const oneSec = const Duration(seconds: 1);
  _timer = new Timer.periodic(
    oneSec,
    (Timer timer) {
      if (_start == 0) {
        setState(() {
          timer.cancel();
        });
      } else {
        setState(() {
          _start--;
        });
      }
    },
  );
}

@override
void dispose() {
  _timer.cancel();
  super.dispose();
}

Widget build(BuildContext context) {
  return new Scaffold(
    appBar: AppBar(title: Text("Timer test")),
    body: Column(
      children: <Widget>[
        RaisedButton(
          onPressed: () {
            startTimer();
          },
          child: Text("start"),
        ),
        Text("$_start")
      ],
    ),
  );
}

Result :

Flutter countdown timer example

You can also use the CountdownTimer class from the quiver.async library, usage is even simpler :

import 'package:quiver/async.dart';

[...]

int _start = 10;
int _current = 10;

void startTimer() {
  CountdownTimer countDownTimer = new CountdownTimer(
    new Duration(seconds: _start),
    new Duration(seconds: 1),
  );

  var sub = countDownTimer.listen(null);
  sub.onData((duration) {
    setState(() { _current = _start - duration.elapsed.inSeconds; });
  });

  sub.onDone(() {
    print("Done");
    sub.cancel();
  });
}

Widget build(BuildContext context) {
  return new Scaffold(
    appBar: AppBar(title: Text("Timer test")),
    body: Column(
      children: <Widget>[
        RaisedButton(
          onPressed: () {
            startTimer();
          },
          child: Text("start"),
        ),
        Text("$_current")
      ],
    ),
  );
}

EDIT : For the question in comments about button click behavior

With the above code which uses Timer.periodic, a new timer will indeed be started on each button click, and all these timers will update the same _start variable, resulting in a faster decreasing counter.

There are multiple solutions to change this behavior, depending on what you want to achieve :

  • disable the button once clicked so that the user could not disturb the countdown anymore (maybe enable it back once timer is cancelled)
  • wrap the Timer.periodic creation with a non null condition so that clicking the button multiple times has no effect
if (_timer != null) {
  _timer = new Timer.periodic(...);
}
  • cancel the timer and reset the countdown if you want to restart the timer on each click :
if (_timer != null) {
  _timer.cancel();
  _start = 10;
}
_timer = new Timer.periodic(...);
  • if you want the button to act like a play/pause button :
if (_timer != null) {
  _timer.cancel();
  _timer = null;
} else {
  _timer = new Timer.periodic(...);
}

You could also use this official async package which provides a RestartableTimer class which extends from Timer and adds the reset method.

So just call _timer.reset(); on each button click.

Finally, Codepen now supports Flutter ! So here is a live example so that everyone can play with it : https://codepen.io/Yann39/pen/oNjrVOb

Typescript: Type 'string | undefined' is not assignable to type 'string'

You can now use the non-null assertion operator that is here exactly for your use case.

It tells TypeScript that even though something looks like it could be null, it can trust you that it's not:

let name1:string = person.name!;
// ^ note the exclamation mark here

How do I prevent Conda from activating the base environment by default?

One thing that hasn't been pointed out, is that there is little to no difference between not having an active environment and and activating the base environment, if you just want to run applications from Conda's (Python's) scripts directory (as @DryLabRebel wants).

You can install and uninstall via conda and conda shows the base environment as active - which essentially it is:

> echo $Env:CONDA_DEFAULT_ENV
> conda env list
# conda environments:
#
base                  *  F:\scoop\apps\miniconda3\current

> conda env list
# conda environments:
#

JS file gets a net::ERR_ABORTED 404 (Not Found)

As mentionned in comments: you need a way to send your static files to the client. This can be achieved with a reverse proxy like Nginx, or simply using express.static().

Put all your "static" (css, js, images) files in a folder dedicated to it, different from where you put your "views" (html files in your case). I'll call it static for the example. Once it's done, add this line in your server code:

app.use("/static", express.static('./static/'));

This will effectively serve every file in your "static" folder via the /static route.

Querying your index.js file in the client thus becomes:

<script src="static/index.js"></script>

How to make <input type="file"/> accept only these types?

The value of the accept attribute is, as per HTML5 LC, a comma-separated list of items, each of which is a specific media type like image/gif, or a notation like image/* that refers to all image types, or a filename extension like .gif. IE 10+ and Chrome support all of these, whereas Firefox does not support the extensions. Thus, the safest way is to use media types and notations like image/*, in this case

<input type="file" name="foo" accept=
"application/msword, application/vnd.ms-excel, application/vnd.ms-powerpoint,
text/plain, application/pdf, image/*">

if I understand the intents correctly. Beware that browsers might not recognize the media type names exactly as specified in the authoritative registry, so some testing is needed.

What is the difference between `let` and `var` in swift?

The let keyword defines a constant:

let theAnswer = 42

The theAnswer cannot be changed afterwards. This is why anything weak can't be written using let. They need to change during runtime and you must be using var instead.

The var defines an ordinary variable.

What is interesting:

The value of a constant doesn’t need to be known at compile time, but you must assign the value exactly once.

Another strange feature:

You can use almost any character you like for constant and variable names, including Unicode characters:

let  = "dogcow"

How to split large text file in windows?

You can use the command split for this task. For example this command entered into the command prompt

split YourLogFile.txt -b 500m

creates several files with a size of 500 MByte each. This will take several minutes for a file of your size. You can rename the output files (by default called "xaa", "xab",... and so on) to *.txt to open it in the editor of your choice.

Make sure to check the help file for the command. You can also split the log file by number of lines or change the name of your output files.

In Access, you will probably find a Join is quicker unless your tables are very small:

SELECT DISTINCT Table1.Column1

WHERE Table2.Column1 Is Null

This will exclude from the list all records with a match in Table2.

CSS: Creating textured backgrounds

You should try slicing the image if possible into a smaller piece which could be repeated. I have sliced that image to a 101x101px image.

BG Tile

CSS:

body{
  background-image: url(SO_texture_bg.jpg);
  background-repeat:repeat;
}

But in some cases, we wouldn't be able to slice the image to a smaller one. In that case, I would use the whole image. But you could also use the CSS3 methods like what Mustafa Kamal had mentioned.

Wish you good luck.

      return (
         <a href="#" onClick={this.onClick}>Test Link</a>
      );
   }
});

or with ES6 classes:

class Test extends React.Component {
   onClick(event) {
      func1();
      func2();
   }
   render() {
      return (
         <a href="#" onClick={this.onClick}>Test Link</a>
      );
   }
}

2) Inline

<a href="#" onClick={function(event){ func1(); func2()}}>Test Link</a>

or ES6 equivalent:

<a href="#" onClick={() => { func1(); func2();}}>Test Link</a>

With CSS, use "..." for overflowed block of multi-lines

Here is the closest solution I could get using just css.

HTML

<div class="ellipsis"> <span>...</span>
Hello this is Mr_Green from Stackoverflow. I love CSS. I live in CSS and I will never leave working on CSS even my work is on other technologies.</div>

CSS

div {
    height: 3em;
    line-height: 1.5em;
    width: 80%;
    border: 1px solid green;
    overflow: hidden;
    position: relative;
}
div:after {
    content:". . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .  . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .  . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .  . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .";
    background-color: white;
    color: white;
    display: inline;
    position: relative;
    box-shadow: 8px 1px 1px white;
    z-index: 1;
}
span {
    position: absolute;
    bottom: 0px;
    right: 0px;
    background-color: white;
}

Setting std=c99 flag in GCC

Instead of calling /usr/bin/gcc, use /usr/bin/c99. This is the Single-Unix-approved way of invoking a C99 compiler. On an Ubuntu system, this points to a script which invokes gcc after having added the -std=c99 flag, which is precisely what you want.

How to use if, else condition in jsf to display image

Instead of using the "c" tags, you could also do the following:

<h:outputLink value="Images/thumb_02.jpg" target="_blank" rendered="#{not empty user or user.userId eq 0}" />
<h:graphicImage value="Images/thumb_02.jpg" rendered="#{not empty user or user.userId eq 0}" />

<h:outputLink value="/DisplayBlobExample?userId=#{user.userId}" target="_blank" rendered="#{not empty user and user.userId neq 0}" />
<h:graphicImage value="/DisplayBlobExample?userId=#{user.userId}" rendered="#{not empty user and user.userId neq 0}"/>

I think that's a little more readable alternative to skuntsel's alternative answer and is utilizing the JSF rendered attribute instead of nesting a ternary operator. And off the answer, did you possibly mean to put your image in between the anchor tags so the image is clickable?

How do I alter the precision of a decimal column in Sql Server?

How can I right-align text in a DataGridView column?

I know this is old, but for those surfing this question, the answer by MUG4N will align all columns that use the same defaultcellstyle. I'm not using autogeneratecolumns so that is not acceptable. Instead I used:

e.Column.DefaultCellStyle = new DataGridViewCellStyle(e.Column.DefaultCellStyle);
e.Column.DefaultCellStyle.Alignment = DataGridViewContentAlignment.MiddleRight;

In this case e is from:

Grd_ColumnAdded(object sender, DataGridViewColumnEventArgs e)

How to resolve the C:\fakepath?

Hy there , in my case i am using asp.net development environment, so i was want to upload those data in asynchronus ajax request , in [webMethod] you can not catch the file uploader since it is not static element , so i had to make a turnover for such solution by fixing the path , than convert the wanted image into bytes to save it in DB .

Here is my javascript function , hope it helps you:

function FixPath(Path)
         {
             var HiddenPath = Path.toString();
             alert(HiddenPath.indexOf("FakePath"));

             if (HiddenPath.indexOf("FakePath") > 1)
             {
                 var UnwantedLength = HiddenPath.indexOf("FakePath") + 7;
                 MainStringLength = HiddenPath.length - UnwantedLength;
                 var thisArray =[];
                 var i = 0;
                 var FinalString= "";
                 while (i < MainStringLength)
                 {
                     thisArray[i] = HiddenPath[UnwantedLength + i + 1];
                     i++;
                 }
                 var j = 0;
                 while (j < MainStringLength-1)
                 {
                     if (thisArray[j] != ",")
                     {
                         FinalString += thisArray[j];
                     }
                     j++;
                 }
                 FinalString = "~" + FinalString;
                 alert(FinalString);
                 return FinalString;
             }
             else
             {
                 return HiddenPath;
             }
         }

here only for testing :

 $(document).ready(function () {
             FixPath("hakounaMatata:/7ekmaTa3mahaLaziz/FakePath/EnsaLmadiLiYghiz");
         });
// this will give you : ~/EnsaLmadiLiYghiz

Difference between "read commited" and "repeatable read"

Trying to explain this doubt with simple diagrams.

Read Committed: Here in this isolation level, Transaction T1 will be reading the updated value of the X committed by Transaction T2.

Read Committed

Repeatable Read: In this isolation level, Transaction T1 will not consider the changes committed by the Transaction T2.

Get the element triggering an onclick event in jquery?

If you don't want to pass the clicked on element to the function through a parameter, then you need to access the event object that is happening, and get the target from that object. This is most easily done if you bind the click event like this:

$('#sendButton').click(function(e){
    var SendButton = $(e.target);
    var TheForm = SendButton.parents('form');
    TheForm.submit();

    return false;
});

HTML5 placeholder css padding

If you want to keep your line-height and force the placeholder to have the same, you can directly edit the placeholder CSS since the newer browser versions. That did the trick for me:

input::-webkit-input-placeholder { /* WebKit browsers */
  line-height: 1.5em;
}
input:-moz-placeholder { /* Mozilla Firefox 4 to 18 */
  line-height: 1.5em;
}
input::-moz-placeholder { /* Mozilla Firefox 19+ */
  line-height: 1.5em;
}
input:-ms-input-placeholder { /* Internet Explorer 10+ */
  line-height: 1.5em;
}

Abstract Class:-Real Time Example

I use often abstract classes in conjuction with Template method pattern.
In main abstract class I wrote the skeleton of main algorithm and make abstract methods as hooks where suclasses can make a specific implementation; I used often when writing data parser (or processor) that need to read data from one different place (file, database or some other sources), have similar processing step (maybe small differences) and different output.
This pattern looks like Strategy pattern but it give you less granularity and can degradated to a difficult mantainable code if main code grow too much or too exceptions from main flow are required (this considerations came from my experience).
Just a small example:

abstract class MainProcess {
  public static class Metrics {
    int skipped;
    int processed;
    int stored;
    int error;
  }
  private Metrics metrics;
  protected abstract Iterator<Item> readObjectsFromSource();
  protected abstract boolean storeItem(Item item);
  protected Item processItem(Item item) {
    /* do something on item and return it to store, or null to skip */
    return item;
  }
  public Metrics getMetrics() {
    return metrics;
  }
  /* Main method */
  final public void process() {
    this.metrics = new Metrics();
    Iterator<Item> items = readObjectsFromSource();
    for(Item item : items) {
      metrics.processed++;
      item = processItem(item);
      if(null != item) {

        if(storeItem(item))
          metrics.stored++;
        else
          metrics.error++;
      }
      else {
        metrics.skipped++;
      }
    }
  }
}

class ProcessFromDatabase extends MainProcess {
  ProcessFromDatabase(String query) {
    this.query = query;
  }
  protected Iterator<Item> readObjectsFromSource() {
    return sessionFactory.getCurrentSession().query(query).list();
  }
  protected boolean storeItem(Item item) {
    return sessionFactory.getCurrentSession().saveOrUpdate(item);
  }
}

Here another example.

Get SELECT's value and text in jQuery

Unable to open debugger port in IntelliJ IDEA

the key to the issue is in debugger port. I was having the same problem, I was killing every process listening on port 8081 (my http port), 1099 (JMX port), tomcat shutdown port, every java.exe, and still nothing.

The thing is this debugger port is different. If you run the application, it will go through the port you have Tomcat configured for, 8080, 8081 or whatever. But if you run it in Debug mode, it goes through a different port.

If you go edit your Tomcat configuration from IntelliJ, the last tab is Startup/Connection. Here go see the configuration for Debug mode, and you'll see its port. Mine was 50473. I changed it to 50472, and everything started working again.

dlib installation on Windows 10

If you're trying to install dlib on Windows 10 with Visual Studio 2019, then first perform:

pip install cmake

And set it in the environment variable. After that, make sure that you have the latest version of Visual Studio SDK installed. After that, perform:

pip install dlib

I hope this solves the problem

Get checkbox value in jQuery

Despite the fact that this question is asking for a jQuery solution, here is a pure JavaScript answer since nobody has mentioned it.

Without jQuery:

Simply select the element and access the checked property (which returns a boolean).

_x000D_
_x000D_
var checkbox = document.querySelector('input[type="checkbox"]');_x000D_
_x000D_
alert(checkbox.checked);
_x000D_
<input type="checkbox"/>
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

Here is a quick example listening to the change event:

_x000D_
_x000D_
var checkbox = document.querySelector('input[type="checkbox"]');_x000D_
checkbox.addEventListener('change', function (e) {_x000D_
    alert(this.checked);_x000D_
});
_x000D_
<input type="checkbox"/>
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

To select checked elements, use the :checked pseudo class (input[type="checkbox"]:checked).

Here is an example that iterates over checked input elements and returns a mapped array of the checked element's names.

Example Here

var elements = document.querySelectorAll('input[type="checkbox"]:checked');
var checkedElements = Array.prototype.map.call(elements, function (el, i) {
    return el.name;
});

console.log(checkedElements);

_x000D_
_x000D_
var elements = document.querySelectorAll('input[type="checkbox"]:checked');_x000D_
var checkedElements = Array.prototype.map.call(elements, function (el, i) {_x000D_
    return el.name;_x000D_
});_x000D_
_x000D_
console.log(checkedElements);
_x000D_
<div class="parent">_x000D_
    <input type="checkbox" name="name1" />_x000D_
    <input type="checkbox" name="name2" />_x000D_
    <input type="checkbox" name="name3" checked="checked" />_x000D_
    <input type="checkbox" name="name4" checked="checked" />_x000D_
    <input type="checkbox" name="name5" />_x000D_
</div>

Xcode 10 Error: Multiple commands produce

Same here but here is the latest solution May 2020

It looks like a bug or some new issue with new Xcode version.

Error response is:

Failed to build iOS project. We ran "xcodebuild" command but it exited with error code 65.

Detailed response:

In C#, should I use string.Empty or String.Empty or "" to intitialize a string?

string is synonym for System.String type, They are identical.

Values are also identical: string.Empty == String.Empty == ""

I would not use character constant "" in code, rather string.Empty or String.Empty - easier to see what programmer meant.

Between string and String I like lower case string more just because I used to work with Delphi for lot of years and Delphi style is lowercase string.

So, if I was your boss, you would be writing string.Empty

Data binding for TextBox

I Recommend you implement INotifyPropertyChanged and change your databinding code to this:

this.textBox.DataBindings.Add("Text",
                                this.Food,
                                "Name",
                                false,
                                DataSourceUpdateMode.OnPropertyChanged);

That'll fix it.

Note that the default DataSourceUpdateMode is OnValidation, so if you don't specify OnPropertyChanged, the model object won't be updated until after your validations have occurred.

how to automatically scroll down a html page?

You can use .scrollIntoView() for this. It will bring a specific element into the viewport.

Example:

document.getElementById( 'bottom' ).scrollIntoView();

Demo: http://jsfiddle.net/ThinkingStiff/DG8yR/

Script:

function top() {
    document.getElementById( 'top' ).scrollIntoView();
};

function bottom() {
    document.getElementById( 'bottom' ).scrollIntoView();
    window.setTimeout( function () { top(); }, 2000 );
};

bottom();

HTML:

<div id="top">top</div>
<div id="bottom">bottom</div>

CSS:

#top {
    border: 1px solid black;
    height: 3000px;
}

#bottom {
    border: 1px solid red;
}

If you support flash you can use https://everyplay.com/assets/clipboard.swf and use the flashvars text to set the text

https://everyplay.com/assets/clipboard.swf?text=It%20Works

Thats the one i use to copy and you can set as extra if doesn't support these options you can use :

For Internet Explorer: window.clipboardData.setData(DataFormat, Text) and window.clipboardData.getData(DataFormat)

You can use the DataFormat's Text and Url to getData and setData.

And to delete data:

You can use the DataFormat's File, HTML, Image, Text and URL. PS: You Need To Use window.clipboardData.clearData(DataFormat);

And for other thats not support window.clipboardData and swf flash files you can also use control + c button on your keyboard for windows and for mac its command + c

What is the difference between g++ and gcc?

“GCC” is a common shorthand term for the GNU Compiler Collection. This is both the most general name for the compiler, and the name used when the emphasis is on compiling C programs (as the abbreviation formerly stood for “GNU C Compiler”).

When referring to C++ compilation, it is usual to call the compiler “G++”. Since there is only one compiler, it is also accurate to call it “GCC” no matter what the language context; however, the term “G++” is more useful when the emphasis is on compiling C++ programs.

How to install crontab on Centos

As seen in Install crontab on CentOS, the crontab package in CentOS is vixie-cron. Hence, do install it with:

yum install vixie-cron

And then start it with:

service crond start

To make it persistent, so that it starts on boot, use:

chkconfig crond on

On CentOS 7 you need to use cronie:

yum install cronie

On CentOS 6 you can install vixie-cron, but the real package is cronie:

yum install vixie-cron

and

yum install cronie

In both cases you get the same output:

Convert pandas dataframe to NumPy array

To convert a pandas dataframe (df) to a numpy ndarray, use this code:

df.values

array([[nan, 0.2, nan],
       [nan, nan, 0.5],
       [nan, 0.2, 0.5],
       [0.1, 0.2, nan],
       [0.1, 0.2, 0.5],
       [0.1, nan, 0.5],
       [0.1, nan, nan]])

Difference between __getattr__ vs __getattribute__

In reading through Beazley & Jones PCB, I have stumbled on an explicit and practical use-case for __getattr__ that helps answer the "when" part of the OP's question. From the book:

"The __getattr__() method is kind of like a catch-all for attribute lookup. It's a method that gets called if code tries to access an attribute that doesn't exist." We know this from the above answers, but in PCB recipe 8.15, this functionality is used to implement the delegation design pattern. If Object A has an attribute Object B that implements many methods that Object A wants to delegate to, rather than redefining all of Object B's methods in Object A just to call Object B's methods, define a __getattr__() method as follows:

def __getattr__(self, name):
    return getattr(self._b, name)

where _b is the name of Object A's attribute that is an Object B. When a method defined on Object B is called on Object A, the __getattr__ method will be invoked at the end of the lookup chain. This would make code cleaner as well, since you do not have a list of methods defined just for delegating to another object.

How do I combine two dataframes?

You can also use pd.concat, which is particularly helpful when you are joining more than two dataframes:

bigdata = pd.concat([data1, data2], ignore_index=True, sort=False)

Loading context in Spring using web.xml

You can also load the context while defining the servlet itself (WebApplicationContext)

  <servlet>
    <servlet-name>admin</servlet-name>
    <servlet-class>org.springframework.web.servlet.DispatcherServlet</servlet-class>
    <init-param>
      <param-name>contextConfigLocation</param-name>
      <param-value>
                /WEB-INF/spring/*.xml
            </param-value>
    </init-param>
    <load-on-startup>1</load-on-startup>
  </servlet>
  <servlet-mapping>
    <servlet-name>admin</servlet-name>
    <url-pattern>/</url-pattern>
  </servlet-mapping>

rather than (ApplicationContext)

<context-param>
    <param-name>contextConfigLocation</param-name>
    <param-value>/WEB-INF/applicationContext*.xml</param-value>
</context-param>

<listener>
   <listener-class>
        org.springframework.web.context.ContextLoaderListener
   </listener-class>
</listener>

or can do both together.

Drawback of just using WebApplicationContext is that it will load context only for this particular Spring entry point (DispatcherServlet) where as with above mentioned methods context will be loaded for multiple entry points (Eg. Webservice Servlet, REST servlet etc)

Context loaded by ContextLoaderListener will infact be a parent context to that loaded specifically for DisplacherServlet . So basically you can load all your business service, data access or repository beans in application context and separate out your controller, view resolver beans to WebApplicationContext.

Multiple "order by" in LINQ

Add "new":

var movies = _db.Movies.OrderBy( m => new { m.CategoryID, m.Name })

That works on my box. It does return something that can be used to sort. It returns an object with two values.

Similar, but different to sorting by a combined column, as follows.

var movies = _db.Movies.OrderBy( m => (m.CategoryID.ToString() + m.Name))

How to deep watch an array in angularjs?

In my case, I needed to watch a service, which contains an address object also watched by several other controllers. I was stuck in a loop until I added the 'true' parameter, which seems to be the key to success when watching objects.

$scope.$watch(function() {
    return LocationService.getAddress();
}, function(address) {
    //handle address object
}, true);

Where Is Machine.Config?

In order to be absolutely sure, slap a Label on an ASP.NET page and run this code:

labelDebug.Text = System.Runtime.InteropServices.RuntimeEnvironment.SystemConfigurationFile;

I believe this will leave no doubt!

Does Java have an exponential operator?

The easiest way is to use Math library.

Use Math.pow(a, b) and the result will be a^b

If you want to do it yourself, you have to use for-loop

// Works only for b >= 1
public static double myPow(double a, int b){
    double res =1;
    for (int i = 0; i < b; i++) {
        res *= a;
    }
    return res;
}

Using:

double base = 2;
int exp = 3;
double whatIWantToKnow = myPow(2, 3);

How to get back to most recent version in Git?

You can check out using branch names, for one thing.

I know there are several ways to move the HEAD around, but I'll leave it to a git expert to enumerate them.

I just wanted to suggest gitk --all -- I found it enormously helpful when starting with git.

source command not found in sh shell

$ls -l `which sh`
/bin/sh -> dash

$sudo dpkg-reconfigure dash #Select "no" when you're asked

$ls -l `which sh`
/bin/sh -> bash

Then it will be OK

Mercurial: how to amend the last commit?

Might not solve all the problems in the original question, but since this seems to be the de facto post on how mercurial can amend to previous commit, I'll add my 2 cents worth of information.

If you are like me, and only wish to modify the previous commit message (fix a typo etc) without adding any files, this will work

hg commit -X 'glob:**' --amend

Without any include or exclude patterns hg commit will by default include all files in working directory. Applying pattern -X 'glob:**' will exclude all possible files, allowing only to modify the commit message.

Functionally it is same as git commit --amend when there are no files in index/stage.

How do I convert datetime to ISO 8601 in PHP

JavaScript style.display="none" or jQuery .hide() is more efficient?

Talking about efficiency:

document.getElementById( 'elemtId' ).style.display = 'none';

What jQuery does with its .show() and .hide() methods is, that it remembers the last state of an element. That can come in handy sometimes, but since you asked about efficiency that doesn't matter here.

Different ways of clearing lists

There are two cases in which you might want to clear a list:

  1. You want to use the name old_list further in your code;
  2. You want the old list to be garbage collected as soon as possible to free some memory;

In case 1 you just go on with the assigment:

    old_list = [] # or whatever you want it to be equal to

In case 2 the del statement would reduce the reference count to the list object the name old list points at. If the list object is only pointed by the name old_list at, the reference count would be 0, and the object would be freed for garbage collection.

    del old_list

How do I convert a list into a string with spaces in Python?

I'll throw this in as an alternative just for the heck of it, even though it's pretty much useless when compared to " ".join(my_list) for strings. For non-strings (such as an array of ints) this may be better:

" ".join(str(item) for item in my_list)

Evenly space multiple views within a container view

I wanted to horizontally align 5 images, so I ended up following Mete's response with a small difference.

The first image will be centered horizontally in container equal to 0 and a multiplier of 1:5:

first image

The second image will be centered horizontally in container equal to 0 and a multiplier of 3:5: second image

And like that for the rest of the images. For example, the fifth (and last) image will be centered horizontally in container equal to 0 and a multiplier of 9:5: last image

As Mete explained, the order goes 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, etc. The positions follow the same logic: the first position is 1, then space, then the next position 3, and so on.

Add class to <html> with Javascript?

You should append class not overwrite it

var headCSS = document.getElementsByTagName("html")[0].getAttribute("class") || "";
document.getElementsByTagName("html")[0].setAttribute("class",headCSS +"foo");

I would still recommend using jQuery to avoid browser incompatibilities

Regex select all text between tags

You shouldn't be trying to parse html with regexes see this question and how it turned out.

In the simplest terms, html is not a regular language so you can't fully parse is with regular expressions.

Having said that you can parse subsets of html when there are no similar tags nested. So as long as anything between and is not that tag itself, this will work:

preg_match("/<([\w]+)[^>]*>(.*?)<\/\1>/", $subject, $matches);
$matches = array ( [0] => full matched string [1] => tag name [2] => tag content )

A better idea is to use a parser, like the native DOMDocument, to load your html, then select your tag and get the inner html which might look something like this:

$obj = new DOMDocument();
$obj -> load($html);
$obj -> getElementByTagName('el');
$value = $obj -> nodeValue();

And since this is a proper parser it will be able to handle nesting tags etc.

How to split elements of a list?

Something like:

>>> l = ['element1\t0238.94', 'element2\t2.3904', 'element3\t0139847']
>>> [i.split('\t', 1)[0] for i in l]
['element1', 'element2', 'element3']

Is there any way to do HTTP PUT in python

You can use the requests library, it simplifies things a lot in comparison to taking the urllib2 approach. First install it from pip:

pip install requests

More on installing requests.

Then setup the put request:

import requests
import json
url = 'https://api.github.com/some/endpoint'
payload = {'some': 'data'}

# Create your header as required
headers = {"content-type": "application/json", "Authorization": "<auth-key>" }

r = requests.put(url, data=json.dumps(payload), headers=headers)

See the quickstart for requests library. I think this is a lot simpler than urllib2 but does require this additional package to be installed and imported.

Pass multiple complex objects to a post/put Web API method

Here I found a workaround to pass multiple generic objects (as json) from jquery to a WEB API using JObject, and then cast back to your required specific object type in api controller. This objects provides a concrete type specifically designed for working with JSON.

var combinedObj = {};
combinedObj["obj1"] = [your json object 1];
combinedObj["obj2"] = [your json object 2];

$http({
       method: 'POST',
       url: 'api/PostGenericObjects/',
       data: JSON.stringify(combinedObj)
    }).then(function successCallback(response) {
         // this callback will be called asynchronously
         // when the response is available
         alert("Saved Successfully !!!");
    }, function errorCallback(response) {
         // called asynchronously if an error occurs
         // or server returns response with an error status.
         alert("Error : " + response.data.ExceptionMessage);
});

and then you can get this object in your controller

using Newtonsoft.Json;
using Newtonsoft.Json.Linq;

public [OBJECT] PostGenericObjects(object obj)
    {
        string[] str = GeneralMethods.UnWrapObjects(obj);
        var item1 = JsonConvert.DeserializeObject<ObjectType1>(str[0]);
        var item2 = JsonConvert.DeserializeObject<ObjectType2>(str[1]);

        return *something*;
    }

I have made a generic function to unwrap the complex object, so there is no limitation of number of objects while sending and unwrapping. We can even send more than two objects

public class GeneralMethods
{
    public static string[] UnWrapObjects(object obj)
    {
        JObject o = JObject.Parse(obj.ToString());

        string[] str = new string[o.Count];

        for (int i = 0; i < o.Count; i++)
        {
            string var = "obj" + (i + 1).ToString();
            str[i] = o[var].ToString();
        }

        return str;
    }

}

I have posted the solution to my blog with a little more description with simpler code to integrate easily.

Pass multiple complex objects to Web API

Getting "method not valid without suitable object" error when trying to make a HTTP request in VBA?

For reading REST data, at least OData Consider Microsoft Power Query. You won't be able to write data. However, you can read data very well.

Opening a SQL Server .bak file (Not restoring!)

There is no standard way to do this. You need to use 3rd party tools such as ApexSQL Restore or SQL Virtual Restore. These tools don’t really read the backup file directly. They get SQL Server to “think” of backup files as if these were live databases.

Apply a theme to an activity in Android?

You can apply a theme to any activity by including android:theme inside <activity> inside manifest file.

For example:

  1. <activity android:theme="@android:style/Theme.Dialog">
  2. <activity android:theme="@style/CustomTheme">

And if you want to set theme programatically then use setTheme() before calling setContentView() and super.onCreate() method inside onCreate() method.

Render partial from different folder (not shared)

The VirtualPathProviderViewEngine, on which the WebFormsViewEngine is based, is supposed to support the "~" and "/" characters at the front of the path so your examples above should work.

<%Html.RenderPartial("~/Views/Account/myPartial.ascx");%>

or is that just a typo in your question?

Media Queries: How to target desktop, tablet, and mobile?

The behavior does not change on desktop. But on tablets and mobiles, I expand the navbar to cover the big logo image. Note: Use the margin (top and bottom) as much as you need for your logo height.

For my case, 60px top and bottom worked perfectly!

@media (max-width:768px) {
  .navbar-toggle {
      margin: 60px 0;
  }
}

Check the navbar here.

How do I grep for all non-ASCII characters?

Strangely, I had to do this today! I ended up using Perl because I couldn't get grep/egrep to work (even in -P mode). Something like:

cat blah | perl -en '/\xCA\xFE\xBA\xBE/ && print "found"'

For unicode characters (like \u2212 in example below) use this:

find . ... -exec perl -CA -e '$ARGV = @ARGV[0]; open IN, $ARGV; binmode(IN, ":utf8"); binmode(STDOUT, ":utf8"); while (<IN>) { next unless /\N{U+2212}/; print "$ARGV: $&: $_"; exit }' '{}' \;

How to check if multiple array keys exists

If you only have 2 keys to check (like in the original question), it's probably easy enough to just call array_key_exists() twice to check if the keys exists.

if (array_key_exists("story", $arr) && array_key_exists("message", $arr)) {
    // Both keys exist.
}

However this obviously doesn't scale up well to many keys. In that situation a custom function would help.

function array_keys_exists(array $keys, array $arr) {
   return !array_diff_key(array_flip($keys), $arr);
}

Clear and refresh jQuery Chosen dropdown list

        $('#idofdropdown').trigger("chosen:updated");
    });

How do I check to see if my array includes an object?

Array's include?method accepts any object, not just a string. This should work:

@suggested_horses = []
@suggested_horses << Horse.first(:offset => rand(Horse.count))
while @suggested_horses.length < 8
  horse = Horse.first(:offset => rand(Horse.count))
  @suggested_horses << horse unless @suggested_horses.include?(horse)
end

lambda expression join multiple tables with select and where clause

If I understand your questions correctly, all you need to do is add the .Where(m => m.r.u.UserId == 1):

    var UserInRole = db.UserProfiles.
        Join(db.UsersInRoles, u => u.UserId, uir => uir.UserId,
        (u, uir) => new { u, uir }).
        Join(db.Roles, r => r.uir.RoleId, ro => ro.RoleId, (r, ro) => new { r, ro })
        .Where(m => m.r.u.UserId == 1)
        .Select (m => new AddUserToRole
        {
            UserName = m.r.u.UserName,
            RoleName = m.ro.RoleName
        });

Hope that helps.

How to sort an array of ints using a custom comparator?

Here is a helper method to do the job.

First of all you'll need a new Comparator interface, as Comparator doesn't support primitives:

public interface IntComparator{
    public int compare(int a, int b);
}

(You could of course do it with autoboxing / unboxing but I won't go there, that's ugly)

Then, here's a helper method to sort an int array using this comparator:

public static void sort(final int[] data, final IntComparator comparator){
    for(int i = 0; i < data.length + 0; i++){
        for(int j = i; j > 0
            && comparator.compare(data[j - 1], data[j]) > 0; j--){
            final int b = j - 1;
            final int t = data[j];
            data[j] = data[b];
            data[b] = t;
        }
    }
}

And here is some client code. A stupid comparator that sorts all numbers that consist only of the digit '9' to the front (again sorted by size) and then the rest (for whatever good that is):

final int[] data =
    { 4343, 544, 433, 99, 44934343, 9999, 32, 999, 9, 292, 65 };
sort(data, new IntComparator(){

    @Override
    public int compare(final int a, final int b){
        final boolean onlyNinesA = this.onlyNines(a);
        final boolean onlyNinesB = this.onlyNines(b);
        if(onlyNinesA && !onlyNinesB){
            return -1;
        }
        if(onlyNinesB && !onlyNinesA){
            return 1;
        }

        return Integer.valueOf(a).compareTo(Integer.valueOf(b));
    }

    private boolean onlyNines(final int candidate){
        final String str = String.valueOf(candidate);
        boolean nines = true;
        for(int i = 0; i < str.length(); i++){
            if(!(str.charAt(i) == '9')){
                nines = false;
                break;
            }
        }
        return nines;
    }
});

System.out.println(Arrays.toString(data));

Output:

[9, 99, 999, 9999, 32, 65, 292, 433, 544, 4343, 44934343]

The sort code was taken from Arrays.sort(int[]), and I only used the version that is optimized for tiny arrays. For a real implementation you'd probably want to look at the source code of the internal method sort1(int[], offset, length) in the Arrays class.

Correct way to set Bearer token with CURL

In SQL, is UPDATE always faster than DELETE+INSERT?

Large number of individual updates vs bulk delete/bulk insert is my scenario.I have historical sales data for multiple customers going back years. Until I get verified data (15th of the following month), I will adjust sales numbers every day to reflect the current state as obtained from another source (this means overwriting at most 45 days of sales each day for each customer). There may be no changes, or there may be a few changes. I can either code the logic to find the differences and update/delete/insert the affected records or I can just blow away yesterday's numbers and insert today's numbers. Clearly this latter approach is simpler, but if it's going to kill the table's performance due to churn, then it's worth it to write the extra logic to identify the handful (or none) of records that changed and only update/delete/insert those.

So, I'm replacing the records, and there may be some relationship between the old records and the new records, but in general I don't necessarily want to match the old data with the new data (that would be an extra step and would result in deletions, updates, and inserts). Also, relatively few fields would be changed (at most 7 out of 20 or 2 out of 15).

The records that are likely to be retrieved together will have been inserted at the same time and therefore should be physically close to each other. Does that make up for the performance loss due to churn with that approach, and is it better than the undo/redo cost of all those individual record updates?

What does 'const static' mean in C and C++?

To all the great answers, I want to add a small detail:

If You write plugins (e.g. DLLs or .so libraries to be loaded by a CAD system), then static is a life saver that avoids name collisions like this one:

  1. The CAD system loads a plugin A, which has a "const int foo = 42;" in it.
  2. The system loads a plugin B, which has "const int foo = 23;" in it.
  3. As a result, plugin B will use the value 42 for foo, because the plugin loader will realize, that there is already a "foo" with external linkage.

Even worse: Step 3 may behave differently depending on compiler optimization, plugin load mechanism, etc.

I had this issue once with two helper functions (same name, different behaviour) in two plugins. Declaring them static solved the problem.

Date format Mapping to JSON Jackson

What is the formatting I need to use to carry out conversion with Jackson? Is Date a good field type for this?

Date is a fine field type for this. You can make the JSON parse-able pretty easily by using ObjectMapper.setDateFormat:

DateFormat df = new SimpleDateFormat("yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm a z");
myObjectMapper.setDateFormat(df);

In general, is there a way to process the variables before they get mapped to Object members by Jackson? Something like, changing the format, calculations, etc.

Yes. You have a few options, including implementing a custom JsonDeserializer, e.g. extending JsonDeserializer<Date>. This is a good start.

How to supply value to an annotation from a Constant java

I am thinking this may not be possible in Java because annotation and its parameters are resolved at compile time.

With Seam 2 http://seamframework.org/ you were able to resolve annotation parameters at runtime, with expression language inside double quotes.

In Seam 3 http://seamframework.org/Seam3/Solder, this feature is the module Seam Solder

How can I remove a pytz timezone from a datetime object?

To remove a timezone (tzinfo) from a datetime object:

# dt_tz is a datetime.datetime object
dt = dt_tz.replace(tzinfo=None)

If you are using a library like arrow, then you can remove timezone by simply converting an arrow object to to a datetime object, then doing the same thing as the example above.

# <Arrow [2014-10-09T10:56:09.347444-07:00]>
arrowObj = arrow.get('2014-10-09T10:56:09.347444-07:00')

# datetime.datetime(2014, 10, 9, 10, 56, 9, 347444, tzinfo=tzoffset(None, -25200))
tmpDatetime = arrowObj.datetime

# datetime.datetime(2014, 10, 9, 10, 56, 9, 347444)
tmpDatetime = tmpDatetime.replace(tzinfo=None)

Why would you do this? One example is that mysql does not support timezones with its DATETIME type. So using ORM's like sqlalchemy will simply remove the timezone when you give it a datetime.datetime object to insert into the database. The solution is to convert your datetime.datetime object to UTC (so everything in your database is UTC since it can't specify timezone) then either insert it into the database (where the timezone is removed anyway) or remove it yourself. Also note that you cannot compare datetime.datetime objects where one is timezone aware and another is timezone naive.

##############################################################################
# MySQL example! where MySQL doesn't support timezones with its DATETIME type!
##############################################################################

arrowObj = arrow.get('2014-10-09T10:56:09.347444-07:00')

arrowDt = arrowObj.to("utc").datetime

# inserts datetime.datetime(2014, 10, 9, 17, 56, 9, 347444, tzinfo=tzutc())
insertIntoMysqlDatabase(arrowDt)

# returns datetime.datetime(2014, 10, 9, 17, 56, 9, 347444)
dbDatetimeNoTz = getFromMysqlDatabase()

# cannot compare timzeone aware and timezone naive
dbDatetimeNoTz == arrowDt # False, or TypeError on python versions before 3.3

# compare datetimes that are both aware or both naive work however
dbDatetimeNoTz == arrowDt.replace(tzinfo=None) # True

Inserting string at position x of another string

Quick fix! If you don't want to manually add a space, you can do this:

_x000D_
_x000D_
var a = "I want apple";_x000D_
var b = "an";_x000D_
var position = 6;_x000D_
var output = [a.slice(0, position + 1), b, a.slice(position)].join('');_x000D_
console.log(output);
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

(edit: i see that this is actually answered above, sorry!)

Creating a JSON Array in node js

You don't have JSON. You have a JavaScript data structure consisting of objects, an array, some strings and some numbers.

Use JSON.stringify(object) to turn it into (a string of) JSON text.

Using Python, find anagrams for a list of words

import collections

def find_anagrams(x):
    anagrams = [''.join(sorted(list(i))) for i in x]
    anagrams_counts = [item for item, count in collections.Counter(anagrams).items() if count > 1]
    return [i for i in x if ''.join(sorted(list(i))) in anagrams_counts]

How to get the first element of the List or Set?

Collection c;

Iterator iter = c.iterator();

Object first = iter.next();

(This is the closest you'll get to having the "first" element of a Set. You should realize that it has absolutely no meaning for most implementations of Set. This may have meaning for LinkedHashSet and TreeSet, but not for HashSet.)

Go back button in a page

There's a few ways, this is one:

window.history.go(-1);

Echo a blank (empty) line to the console from a Windows batch file

Any of the below three options works for you:

echo[

echo(

echo.

For example:

@echo off
echo There will be a blank line below
echo[
echo Above line is blank
echo(
echo The above line is also blank.
echo.
echo The above line is also blank.

How to check if a column is empty or null using SQL query select statement?

Here's a slightly different way:

SELECT *

WHERE PropertydefinitionID in (40, 53)
  AND (LEN(ISNULL(PropertyValue,'')) = 0)

Why use double indirection? or Why use pointers to pointers?

Adding to Asha's response, if you use single pointer to the example bellow (e.g. alloc1() ) you will lose the reference to the memory allocated inside the function.

#include <stdio.h>
#include <stdlib.h>

void alloc2(int** p) {
    *p = (int*)malloc(sizeof(int));
    **p = 10;
}

void alloc1(int* p) {
    p = (int*)malloc(sizeof(int));
    *p = 10;
}

int main(){
    int *p = NULL;
    alloc1(p);
    //printf("%d ",*p);//undefined
    alloc2(&p);
    printf("%d ",*p);//will print 10
    free(p);
    return 0;
}

The reason it occurs like this is that in alloc1 the pointer is passed in by value. So, when it is reassigned to the result of the malloc call inside of alloc1, the change does not pertain to code in a different scope.

Create or write/append in text file

Try something like this:

 $txt = "user id date";
 $myfile = file_put_contents('logs.txt', $txt.PHP_EOL , FILE_APPEND | LOCK_EX);

Foreach loop in java for a custom object list

You can fix your example with the iterator pattern by changing the parametrization of the class:

List<Room> rooms = new ArrayList<Room>();
rooms.add(room1);
rooms.add(room2);
for(Iterator<Room> i = rooms.iterator(); i.hasNext(); ) {
  String item = i.next();
  System.out.println(item);
}

or much simpler way:

List<Room> rooms = new ArrayList<Room>();
rooms.add(room1);
rooms.add(room2);
for(Room room : rooms) {
  System.out.println(room);
}

How can I get column names from a table in Oracle?

That information is stored in the ALL_TAB_COLUMNS system table:

SQL> select column_name from all_tab_columns where table_name = 'DUAL';

DUMMY

Or you could DESCRIBE the table if you are using SQL*PLUS:

SQL> desc dual
Name                               Null?    Type
----------------------------------------------------- -------- ---------------------- -------------
DUMMY                               VARCHAR2(1)

Checking on a thread / remove from list

As TokenMacGuy says, you should use thread.is_alive() to check if a thread is still running. To remove no longer running threads from your list you can use a list comprehension:

for t in my_threads:
    if not t.is_alive():
        # get results from thread
        t.handled = True
my_threads = [t for t in my_threads if not t.handled]

This avoids the problem of removing items from a list while iterating over it.

How can I read a text file in Android?

        e1.printStackTrace();
    }
      String line="";
      String s ="";
   try
   {
       line = reader.readLine();
   }
   catch (IOException e)
   {
       e.printStackTrace();
   }
      while (line != null)
      {
       s = s + line;
       s =s+"\n";
       try
       {
           line = reader.readLine();
       }
       catch (IOException e)
       {
           e.printStackTrace();
       }
    }
    tv.setText(""+s);

How to fix a header on scroll

Coops answer is a good, simple solution, however, once you apply the fixed class the page becomes that much shorter and content will "jump" up, and if page is of a length where the scroll distance is less than the height of the header element, it will appear to jump and not let you see the bottom of the page.

The answer I found was to add a spacer div above the element that will become fixed (nav element in my case), and set it to the same height as the nav element, and set it to display none.

When adding the .fixed class to the nav, show the .nav-spacer div, and when removing it, hide it. Since the height of the page changes instantly I have set the duration to 0.

HTML

<header>the element above the element that will become fixed</header>
<div class="nav-spacer"></div>
<nav></nav>

CSS

nav {
    position: relative;
    height: 100px;
}
.nav-spacer{
    position: relative;
    height: 100px;
    display: none;
}
.fixed {
    position: fixed;
    top:0;
    left:0;
    width: 100%;
    /* I like to add a shadow on to the fixed element */
    -webkit-box-shadow: 0px 5px 10px 1px rgba(0,0,0,0.25);
    -moz-box-shadow: 0px 5px 10px 1px rgba(0,0,0,0.25);
    box-shadow: 0px 5px 10px 1px rgba(0,0,0,0.25);
}

JavaScript

var stickyOffset = $('nav').offset().top;

$(window).scroll(function(){
    if ($(window).scrollTop() >= stickyOffset){
        $('nav').addClass('fixed');
        //this makes the page length equal to what it was before fixing nav
        $('.nav-spacer').show(0);
    }
    else {
        $('nav').removeClass('fixed');
        $('.nav-spacer').hide(0);
    }
});

Steps to send a https request to a rest service in Node js

Note if you are using https.request do not directly use the body from res.on('data',... This will fail if you have a large data coming in chunks. So you need to concatenate all the data and then process the response in res.on('end'. Example -

  var options = {
    hostname: "www.google.com",
    port: 443,
    path: "/upload",
    method: 'POST',
    headers: {
      'Content-Type': 'application/json',
      'Content-Length': Buffer.byteLength(post_data)
    }
  };

  //change to http for local testing
  var req = https.request(options, function (res) {
    res.setEncoding('utf8');

    var body = '';

    res.on('data', function (chunk) {
      body = body + chunk;
    });

    res.on('end',function(){
      console.log("Body :" + body);
      if (res.statusCode != 200) {
        callback("Api call failed with response code " + res.statusCode);
      } else {
        callback(null);
      }
    });

  });

  req.on('error', function (e) {
    console.log("Error : " + e.message);
    callback(e);
  });

  // write data to request body
  req.write(post_data);
  req.end();

How do you kill a Thread in Java?

I want to add several observations, based on the comments that have accumulated.

  1. Thread.stop() will stop a thread if the security manager allows it.
  2. Thread.stop() is dangerous. Having said that, if you are working in a JEE environment and you have no control over the code being called, it may be necessary; see Why is Thread.stop deprecated?
  3. You should never stop stop a container worker thread. If you want to run code that tends to hang, (carefully) start a new daemon thread and monitor it, killing if necessary.
  4. stop() creates a new ThreadDeathError error on the calling thread and then throws that error on the target thread. Therefore, the stack trace is generally worthless.
  5. In JRE 6, stop() checks with the security manager and then calls stop1() that calls stop0(). stop0() is native code.
  6. As of Java 13 Thread.stop() has not been removed (yet), but Thread.stop(Throwable) was removed in Java 11. (mailing list, JDK-8204243)

In Java, how do I convert a byte array to a string of hex digits while keeping leading zeros?

I found Integer.toHexString to be a little slow. If you are converting many bytes, you may want to consider building an array of Strings containing "00".."FF" and use the integer as the index. I.e.

hexString.append(hexArray[0xFF & messageDigest[i]]);

This is faster and ensures the correct length. Just requires the array of strings:

String[] hexArray = {

How to store arrays in MySQL?

The proper way to do this is to use multiple tables and JOIN them in your queries.

For example:

CREATE TABLE person (
`id` INT NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY,
`name` VARCHAR(50)
);

CREATE TABLE fruits (
`fruit_name` VARCHAR(20) NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY,
`color` VARCHAR(20),
`price` INT
);

CREATE TABLE person_fruit (
`person_id` INT NOT NULL,
`fruit_name` VARCHAR(20) NOT NULL,
PRIMARY KEY(`person_id`, `fruit_name`)
);

The person_fruit table contains one row for each fruit a person is associated with and effectively links the person and fruits tables together, I.E.

1 | "banana"
1 | "apple"
1 | "orange"
2 | "straberry"
2 | "banana"
2 | "apple"

When you want to retrieve a person and all of their fruit you can do something like this:

SELECT p.*, f.*
FROM person p
INNER JOIN person_fruit pf
ON pf.person_id = p.id
INNER JOIN fruits f
ON f.fruit_name = pf.fruit_name

How do I reference tables in Excel using VBA?

        'No go in 2003
    ActiveSheet.ListObjects("Table1").TableStyle = "TableStyleLight2"

No Spring WebApplicationInitializer types detected on classpath

In my case it also turned into a multi-hour debugging session. Trying to set up a more verbose logging turned out to be completely futile because the problem was that my application did not even start. Here's my context.xml:

<Context path="/rc2" docBase="rc2" antiResourceLocking="false" >
    <JarScanner>
        <JarScanFilter
            tldScan="spring-webmvc*.jar, spring-security-taglibs*.jar, jakarta.servlet.jsp.jstl*.jar"
            tldSkip="*.jar"
            <!-- my-own-app*.jar on the following line was missing! -->
            pluggabilityScan="${tomcat.util.scan.StandardJarScanFilter.jarsToScan}, my-own-app*.jar"
            pluggabilitySkip="*.jar"/>
    </JarScanner>
</Context>

The problem was that to speed up the application startup, I started skipping scanning of many JARs, unfortunately including my own application.

Websocket onerror - how to read error description?

The error Event the onerror handler receives is a simple event not containing such information:

If the user agent was required to fail the WebSocket connection or the WebSocket connection is closed with prejudice, fire a simple event named error at the WebSocket object.

You may have better luck listening for the close event, which is a CloseEvent and indeed has a CloseEvent.code property containing a numerical code according to RFC 6455 11.7 and a CloseEvent.reason string property.

Please note however, that CloseEvent.code (and CloseEvent.reason) are limited in such a way that network probing and other security issues are avoided.

What is "git remote add ..." and "git push origin master"?

Update: note that the currently accepted answer perpetuates a common misunderstanding about the behaviour of git push, which hasn't been corrected despite a comment pointing it out.

Your summary of what remotes are - like a nickname for the URL of a repository - is correct.

So why does the URL not git://[email protected]/peter/first_app.git but in the other syntax -- what syntax is it? Why must it end with .git? I tried not using .git at the end and it works too. If not .git, what else can it be? The git at the beginner seems to be a user account on the git server?

The two URLs that you've mentioned indicate that two different transport protocols should be used. The one beginning with git:// is for the git protocol, which is usually only used for read-only access to repositories. The other one, [email protected]:peter/first_app.git, is one of the different ways of specifying access to a repository over SSH - this is the "scp-style syntax" described in the documentation. That the username in the scp-style syntax is git is because of the way that GitHub deals with identifying users - essentially that username is ignored, and the user is identified based on the SSH key-pair that they used to authenticate.

As for the verbosity of git push origin master, you've noticed that after the first push, you can then just do git push. This is because of a series of difficult-to-remember-but-generally-helpful defaults :)

  • If no remote is specified, the remote configured for the current branch (in remote.master.url in your case) is used. If that's not set up, then origin is used.
  • If there's no "refspec" (e.g. master, master:my-experiment, etc.) specified, then git defaults to pushing every local branch that has the same name as a branch on the remote. If you just have a branch called master in common between your repository and the remote one, that'll be the same as pushing your master to the remote master.

Personally, since I tend to have many topic branches (and often several remotes) I always use the form:

git push origin master

... to avoid accidentally pushing other branches.

In reply to your comments on one of the other answers, it sounds to me as if are learning about git in a top-down way very effectively - you've discovered that the defaults work, and your question is asking about why ;) To be more serious, git can be used essentially as simply as SVN, but knowing a bit about remotes and branches means you can use it much more flexibily and this can really change the way you work for the better. Your remark about a semester course makes me think of something Scott Chacon said in a podcast interview - students are taught about all kinds of basic tools in computer science and software engineering, but very rarely version control. Distributed version control systems such as git and Mercurial are now so important, and so flexible, that it would be worth teaching courses on them to give people a good grounding.

My view is that with git, this learning curve is absolutely worth it - working with lots of topic branches, merging them easily, and pushing and pulling them about between different repositories is fantastically useful once you become confident with the system. It's just unfortunate that:

  • The primary documentation for git is so hard to parse for newcomers. (Although I'd argue that if you Google for almost any git question, helpful tutorial material (or Stack Overflow answers :)) come up nowadays.)
  • There are a few odd behaviours in git that are hard to change now because many scripts may rely on them, but are confusing to people.

Javascript : array.length returns undefined

It looks as though it's not an array but an arbitrary object. If you have control over the PHP serialization, you might be able to change that.

As raina77ow pointed out, one way to do this in PHP would be by replacing something like this:

json_encode($something)

with something like:

json_encode(array_values($something))

But don't ignore the other answers here about Object.keys. They should also accomplish what you want if you don't have the ability or the desire to change the serialization of your object.

How to fill a datatable with List<T>

Try this

static DataTable ConvertToDatatable(List<Item> list)
{
    DataTable dt = new DataTable();

    dt.Columns.Add("Name");
    dt.Columns.Add("Price");
    dt.Columns.Add("URL");
    foreach (var item in list)
    {
        var row = dt.NewRow();

        row["Name"] = item.Name;
        row["Price"] = Convert.ToString(item.Price);
        row["URL"] = item.URL;

        dt.Rows.Add(row);
    }

    return dt;
}

Calculate date/time difference in java

If you are able to use external libraries I would recommend you to use Joda-Time, noting that:

Joda-Time is the de facto standard date and time library for Java prior to Java SE 8. Users are now asked to migrate to java.time (JSR-310).

Example for between calculation:

Seconds.between(startDate, endDate);
Days.between(startDate, endDate);

"The following SDK components were not installed: sys-img-x86-addon-google_apis-google-22 and addon-google_apis-google-22"

TRY BELOW SOLUTIONS.

SOLUTION 1:

-> Run Android Studio as Administrator (this is only required for first run or when any issues arise due to automatic updates on any run in future).

Though it shows API 23 is or any other updates are not installed (and wouldn't show any 'Retry' button), BUT still the download and installation of rest of the updates would proceed (you can see the download progress incrementing even after seeing the above errors). So, DO NOT ABORT the operation.

-> At the end of installation (after rest of successful updates are installed) it would this time display the "Retry" button to retry installation for API 23 or any other versions which had failed earlier. Then click the "Retry" button, it would work this time.

This would resolve your issue with successful installation.

-> Next time onward no need to run Android studio as Administrator, unless it does any automatic updates and shows similar issues.

SOLUTION 2:

-> Alternative approach is to install any updates (which ever failed in earlier attempt) from Android SDK Manager first and then later launch Android Studio (which would not need any check for updates and any additional installations).

To install any features or updates, run Android SDK manager as administrator (run as administrator is not mandatory for this but preferred to avoid any permissions related issues) and check the required options and proceed with the installation without any issues.

SOLUTION 3:

-> If still your issue is not resolved, then try the proxy solution as suggested by others or check your internet connectivity if it's working properly or not.

*Any of the above solutions should resolve your issues.

String replace method is not replacing characters

        }
        return finalStr;
    }

MongoDB: update every document on one field

Regardless of the version, for your example, the <update> is:

{  $set: { lastLookedAt: Date.now() / 1000 }  }

However, depending on your version of MongoDB, the query will look different. Regardless of version, the key is that the empty condition {} will match any document. In the Mongo shell, or with any MongoDB client:

$version >= 3.2:

db.foo.updateMany( {}, <update> )
  • {} is the condition (the empty condition matches any document)

3.2 > $version >= 2.2:

db.foo.update( {}, <update>, { multi: true } )
  • {} is the condition (the empty condition matches any document)
  • {multi: true} is the "update multiple documents" option

$version < 2.2:

db.foo.update( {}, <update>, false, true )
  • {} is the condition (the empty condition matches any document)
  • false is for the "upsert" parameter
  • true is for the "multi" parameter (update multiple records)

Linking a UNC / Network drive on an html page

To link to a UNC path from an HTML document, use file:///// (yes, that's five slashes).

file://///server/path/to/file.txt

Note that this is most useful in IE and Outlook/Word. It won't work in Chrome or Firefox, intentionally - the link will fail silently. Some words from the Mozilla team:

For security purposes, Mozilla applications block links to local files (and directories) from remote files.

And less directly, from Google:

Firefox and Chrome doesn't open "file://" links from pages that originated from outside the local machine. This is a design decision made by those browsers to improve security.

The Mozilla article includes a set of client settings you can use to override this behavior in Firefox, and there are extensions for both browsers to override this restriction.

How to randomly select rows in SQL?

I have found this to work best for big data.

SELECT TOP 1 Column_Name FROM dbo.Table TABLESAMPLE(1 PERCENT);

TABLESAMPLE(n ROWS) or TABLESAMPLE(n PERCENT) is random but need to add the TOP n to get the correct sample size.

Using NEWID() is very slow on large tables.

pandas how to check dtype for all columns in a dataframe?

The singular form dtype is used to check the data type for a single column. And the plural form dtypes is for data frame which returns data types for all columns. Essentially:

For a single column:

dataframe.column.dtype

For all columns:

dataframe.dtypes

Example:

import pandas as pd
df = pd.DataFrame({'A': [1,2,3], 'B': [True, False, False], 'C': ['a', 'b', 'c']})

df.A.dtype
# dtype('int64')
df.B.dtype
# dtype('bool')
df.C.dtype
# dtype('O')

df.dtypes
#A     int64
#B      bool
#C    object
#dtype: object

Why does Maven have such a bad rep?

The already mentioned "all-or-nothing" approach was the reason I'm usually using Ant instead ... Far more often you get to work on a "legacy" project, that already has a defined structure that you can't change just because Maven wants things otherwise.

Ant on the other hand can be used anytime, no matter the projects disorganization.

Regarding the alternatives, I've read good things about rake.

( Btw, I'm talking about Maven 1, haven't yet looked into Maven 2 )

How do I display the current value of an Android Preference in the Preference summary?

FYI:

findPreference(CharSequence key)
This method was deprecated in API level 11. This function is not relevant
for a modern fragment-based PreferenceActivity.

All the more reason to look at the very slick Answer of @ASD above (source found here) saying to use %s in android:summary for each field in preferences.xml. (Current value of preference is substituted for %s.)

.NET - Get protocol, host, and port

Very similar to Holger's answer. If you need to grab the URL can do something like:

Uri uri = Context.Request.Url;
var scheme = uri.Scheme // returns http, https
var scheme2 = uri.Scheme + Uri.SchemeDelimiter; // returns http://, https://
var host = uri.Host; // return www.mywebsite.com
var port = uri.Port; // returns port number

The Uri class provides a whole range of methods, many which I have not listed.

In my instance, I needed to grab LocalHost along with the Port Number, so this is what I did:

var Uri uri = Context.Request.Url;
var host = uri.Scheme + Uri.SchemeDelimiter + uri.Host + ":" + uri.Port;

Which successfully grabbed: http://localhost:12345

DateTime.Now.ToString("yyyy-MM-dd hh:mm:ss") is returning AM time instead of PM time?

Use HH for 24 hour hours format:

DateTime.Now.ToString("yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss")

Or the tt format specifier for the AM/PM part:

DateTime.Now.ToString("yyyy-MM-dd hh:mm:ss tt")

Take a look at the custom Date and Time format strings documentation.

What is the difference between Collection and List in Java?

Collection is the Super interface of List so every Java list is as well an instance of collection. Collections are only iterable sequentially (and in no particular order) whereas a List allows access to an element at a certain position via the get(int index) method.

Django Cookies, how can I set them?

Anyone interested in doing this should read the documentation of the Django Sessions framework. It stores a session ID in the user's cookies, but maps all the cookies-like data to your database. This is an improvement on the typical cookies-based workflow for HTTP requests.

Here is an example with a Django view ...

def homepage(request):

    request.session.setdefault('how_many_visits', 0)
    request.session['how_many_visits'] += 1

    print(request.session['how_many_visits'])

    return render(request, 'home.html', {})

If you keep visiting the page over and over, you'll see the value start incrementing up from 1 until you clear your cookies, visit on a new browser, go incognito, or do anything else that sidesteps Django's Session ID cookie.

        foreach (string key in browser.Capabilities.Keys)
        {
            Literal1.Text += "<tr><td>" + key + "</td><td>" + browser[key] + "</tr>";
        }
        Literal1.Text += "</table>";
        browser = null;
    }

Alternative to mysql_real_escape_string without connecting to DB

From further research, I've found:

http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.1/en/news-5-1-11.html

Security Fix:

An SQL-injection security hole has been found in multi-byte encoding processing. The bug was in the server, incorrectly parsing the string escaped with the mysql_real_escape_string() C API function.

This vulnerability was discovered and reported by Josh Berkus and Tom Lane as part of the inter-project security collaboration of the OSDB consortium. For more information about SQL injection, please see the following text.

Discussion. An SQL injection security hole has been found in multi-byte encoding processing. An SQL injection security hole can include a situation whereby when a user supplied data to be inserted into a database, the user might inject SQL statements into the data that the server will execute. With regards to this vulnerability, when character set-unaware escaping is used (for example, addslashes() in PHP), it is possible to bypass the escaping in some multi-byte character sets (for example, SJIS, BIG5 and GBK). As a result, a function such as addslashes() is not able to prevent SQL-injection attacks. It is impossible to fix this on the server side. The best solution is for applications to use character set-aware escaping offered by a function such mysql_real_escape_string().

However, a bug was detected in how the MySQL server parses the output of mysql_real_escape_string(). As a result, even when the character set-aware function mysql_real_escape_string() was used, SQL injection was possible. This bug has been fixed.

Workarounds. If you are unable to upgrade MySQL to a version that includes the fix for the bug in mysql_real_escape_string() parsing, but run MySQL 5.0.1 or higher, you can use the NO_BACKSLASH_ESCAPES SQL mode as a workaround. (This mode was introduced in MySQL 5.0.1.) NO_BACKSLASH_ESCAPES enables an SQL standard compatibility mode, where backslash is not considered a special character. The result will be that queries will fail.

To set this mode for the current connection, enter the following SQL statement:

SET sql_mode='NO_BACKSLASH_ESCAPES';

You can also set the mode globally for all clients:

SET GLOBAL sql_mode='NO_BACKSLASH_ESCAPES';

This SQL mode also can be enabled automatically when the server starts by using the command-line option --sql-mode=NO_BACKSLASH_ESCAPES or by setting sql-mode=NO_BACKSLASH_ESCAPES in the server option file (for example, my.cnf or my.ini, depending on your system). (Bug#8378, CVE-2006-2753)

Pythonic way to return list of every nth item in a larger list

List comprehensions are exactly made for that:

smaller_list = [x for x in range(100001) if x % 10 == 0]

You can get more info about them in the python official documentation: http://docs.python.org/tutorial/datastructures.html#list-comprehensions

How to do a non-greedy match in grep?

Sorry I am 9 years late, but this might work for the viewers in 2020.

So suppose you have a line like "Hello my name is Jello". Now you want to find the words that start with 'H' and end with 'o', with any number of characters in between. And we don't want lines we just want words. So for that we can use the expression:

grep "H[^ ]*o" file

This will return all the words. The way this works is that: It will allow all the characters instead of space character in between, this way we can avoid multiple words in the same line.

Now you can replace the space character with any other character you want. Suppose the initial line was "Hello-my-name-is-Jello", then you can get words using the expression:

grep "H[^-]*o" file

What is stdClass in PHP?

stdClass is just a generic 'empty' class that's used when casting other types to objects. Despite what the other two answers say, stdClass is not the base class for objects in PHP. This can be demonstrated fairly easily:

class Foo{}
$foo = new Foo();
echo ($foo instanceof stdClass)?'Y':'N';
// outputs 'N'

I don't believe there's a concept of a base object in PHP

How can I send and receive WebSocket messages on the server side?

pimvdb's answer implemented in python:

def DecodedCharArrayFromByteStreamIn(stringStreamIn):
    #turn string values into opererable numeric byte values
    byteArray = [ord(character) for character in stringStreamIn]
    datalength = byteArray[1] & 127
    indexFirstMask = 2
    if datalength == 126:
        indexFirstMask = 4
    elif datalength == 127:
        indexFirstMask = 10
    masks = [m for m in byteArray[indexFirstMask : indexFirstMask+4]]
    indexFirstDataByte = indexFirstMask + 4
    decodedChars = []
    i = indexFirstDataByte
    j = 0
    while i < len(byteArray):
        decodedChars.append( chr(byteArray[i] ^ masks[j % 4]) )
        i += 1
        j += 1
    return decodedChars

An Example of usage:

fromclient = '\x81\x8c\xff\xb8\xbd\xbd\xb7\xdd\xd1\xd1\x90\x98\xea\xd2\x8d\xd4\xd9\x9c'
# this looks like "?ŒOÇ¿¢gÓ ç\Ð=«ož" in unicode, received by server
print DecodedCharArrayFromByteStreamIn(fromclient)
# ['H', 'e', 'l', 'l', 'o', ' ', 'W', 'o', 'r', 'l', 'd', '!']

how to call a onclick function in <a> tag?

Fun! There are a few things to tease out here:

  • $leadID seems to be a php string. Make sure it gets printed in the right place. Also be aware of all the risks involved in passing your own strings around, like cross-site scripting and SQL injection vulnerabilities. There’s really no excuse for having Internet-facing production code not running on a solid framework.
  • Strings in Javascript (like in PHP and usually HTML) need to be enclosed in " or ' characters. Since you’re already inside both " and ', you’ll want to escape whichever you choose. \' to escape the PHP quotes, or &apos; to escape the HTML quotes.
  • <a /> elements are commonly used for “hyper”links, and almost always with a href attribute to indicate their destination, like this: <a href="http://www.google.com">Google homepage</a>.
  • You’re trying to double up on watching when the user clicks. Why? Because a standard click both activates the link (causing the browser to navigate to whatever URL, even that executes Javascript), and “triggers” the onclick event. Tip: Add a return false; to a Javascript event to suppress default behavior.
  • Within Javascript, onclick doesn’t mean anything on its own. That’s because onclick is a property, and not a variable. There has to be a reference to some object, so it knows whose onclick we’re talking about! One such object is window. You could write <a href="javascript:window.onclick = location.reload;">Activate me to reload when anything is clicked</a>.
  • Within HTML, onclick can mean something on its own, as long as its part of an HTML tag: <a href="#" onclick="location.reload(); return false;">. I bet you had this in mind.
  • Big difference between those two kinds of = assignments. The Javascript = expects something that hasn’t been run yet. You can wrap things in a function block to signal code that should be run later, if you want to specify some arguments now (like I didn’t above with reload): <a href="javascript:window.onclick = function () { window.open( ... ) };"> ....
  • Did you know you don’t even need to use Javascript to signal the browser to open a link in a new window? There’s a special target attribute for that: <a href="http://www.google.com" target="_blank">Google homepage</a>.

Hope those are useful.

Reset/remove CSS styles for element only

If you happen to be using sass in a build system, one way to do this that will work in all the major browsers is to wrap all your style imports with a :not() selector like so...

:not(.disable-all-styles) {
  @import 'my-sass-file';
  @import 'my-other-sass-file';
}

Then you can use the disable class on a container and the sub-content won't have any of your styles.

<div class="disable-all-styles">
  <p>Nothing in this div is affected by my sass styles.</p>
</div>

Of course all your styles will now be prepended with the :not() selector, so it's a little fugly, but works well.

Normal arguments vs. keyword arguments

Positional Arguments

They have no keywords before them. The order is important!

func(1,2,3, "foo")

Keyword Arguments

They have keywords in the front. They can be in any order!

func(foo="bar", baz=5, hello=123)

func(baz=5, foo="bar", hello=123)

You should also know that if you use default arguments and neglect to insert the keywords, then the order will then matter!

def func(foo=1, baz=2, hello=3): ...
func("bar", 5, 123)

Can we cast a generic object to a custom object type in javascript?

The answer of @PeterOlson may be worked back in the day but it looks like Object.create is changed. I would go for the copy-constructor way like @user166390 said in the comments.
The reason I necromanced this post is because I needed such implementation.

Nowadays we can use Object.assign (credits to @SayanPal solution) & ES6 syntax:

class Person {
  constructor(obj) {
    obj && Object.assign(this, obj);
  }

  getFullName() {
    return `${this.lastName} ${this.firstName}`;
  }
}

Usage:

const newPerson = new Person(person1)
newPerson.getFullName() // -> Freeman Gordon

ES5 answer below

function Person(obj) {
    for(var prop in obj){
        // for safety you can use the hasOwnProperty function
        this[prop] = obj[prop];
    }
}

Usage:

var newPerson = new Person(person1);
console.log(newPerson.getFullName()); // -> Freeman Gordon

Using a shorter version, 1.5 liner:

function Person(){
    if(arguments[0]) for(var prop in arguments[0]) this[prop] = arguments[0][prop];
}

How to install python modules without root access?

Important question. The server I use (Ubuntu 12.04) had easy_install3 but not pip3. This is how I installed Pip and then other packages to my home folder

  1. Asked admin to install Ubuntu package python3-setuptools

  2. Installed pip

Like this:

 easy_install3 --prefix=$HOME/.local pip
 mkdir -p $HOME/.local/lib/python3.2/site-packages
 easy_install3 --prefix=$HOME/.local pip
  1. Add Pip (and other Python apps to path)

Like this:

PATH="$HOME/.local/bin:$PATH"
echo PATH="$HOME/.local/bin:$PATH" > $HOME/.profile
  1. Install Python package

like this

pip3 install --user httpie

# test httpie package
http httpbin.org

Specifying ssh key in ansible playbook file

If you run your playbook with ansible-playbook -vvv you'll see the actual command being run, so you can check whether the key is actually being included in the ssh command (and you might discover that the problem was the wrong username rather than the missing key).

I agree with Brian's comment above (and zigam's edit) that the vars section is too late. I also tested including the key in the on-the-fly definition of the host like this

# fails
- name: Add all instance public IPs to host group
  add_host: hostname={{ item.public_ip }} groups=ec2hosts ansible_ssh_private_key_file=~/.aws/dev_staging.pem
  loop: "{{ ec2.instances }}"

but that fails too.

So this is not an answer. Just some debugging help and things not to try.

java -XX:+PrintFlagsFinal -version | findstr /i "HeapSize PermSize ThreadStackSize"

For Mac

java -XX:+PrintFlagsFinal -version | grep -iE 'heapsize|permsize|threadstacksize'

The output of all this commands resembles the output below:

uintx InitialHeapSize                          := 20655360        {product}
uintx MaxHeapSize                              := 331350016       {product}
uintx PermSize                                  = 21757952        {pd product}
uintx MaxPermSize                               = 85983232        {pd product}
intx ThreadStackSize                           = 1024            {pd product}

How to turn NaN from parseInt into 0 for an empty string?

Do a separate check for an empty string ( as it is one specific case ) and set it to zero in this case.

You could appeand "0" to the start, but then you need to add a prefix to indicate that it is a decimal and not an octal number

Where and how is the _ViewStart.cshtml layout file linked?

From ScottGu's blog:

Starting with the ASP.NET MVC 3 Beta release, you can now add a file called _ViewStart.cshtml (or _ViewStart.vbhtml for VB) underneath the \Views folder of your project:

The _ViewStart file can be used to define common view code that you want to execute at the start of each View’s rendering. For example, we could write code within our _ViewStart.cshtml file to programmatically set the Layout property for each View to be the SiteLayout.cshtml file by default:

Because this code executes at the start of each View, we no longer need to explicitly set the Layout in any of our individual view files (except if we wanted to override the default value above).

Important: Because the _ViewStart.cshtml allows us to write code, we can optionally make our Layout selection logic richer than just a basic property set. For example: we could vary the Layout template that we use depending on what type of device is accessing the site – and have a phone or tablet optimized layout for those devices, and a desktop optimized layout for PCs/Laptops. Or if we were building a CMS system or common shared app that is used across multiple customers we could select different layouts to use depending on the customer (or their role) when accessing the site.

This enables a lot of UI flexibility. It also allows you to more easily write view logic once, and avoid repeating it in multiple places.

Also see this.

In a more general sense this ability of MVC framework to "know" about _Viewstart.cshtml is called "Coding by convention".

Convention over configuration (also known as coding by convention) is a software design paradigm which seeks to decrease the number of decisions that developers need to make, gaining simplicity, but not necessarily losing flexibility. The phrase essentially means a developer only needs to specify unconventional aspects of the application. For example, if there's a class Sale in the model, the corresponding table in the database is called “sales” by default. It is only if one deviates from this convention, such as calling the table “products_sold”, that one needs to write code regarding these names.

Wikipedia

There's no magic to it. Its just been written into the core codebase of the MVC framework and is therefore something that MVC "knows" about. That why you don't find it in the .config files or elsewhere; it's actually in the MVC code. You can however override to alter or null out these conventions.

Java executors: how to be notified, without blocking, when a task completes?

Use a CountDownLatch.

It's from java.util.concurrent and it's exactly the way to wait for several threads to complete execution before continuing.

In order to achieve the callback effect you're looking after, that does require a little additional extra work. Namely, handling this by yourself in a separate thread which uses the CountDownLatch and does wait on it, then goes on about notifying whatever it is you need to notify. There is no native support for callback, or anything similar to that effect.

EDIT: now that I further understand your question, I think you are reaching too far, unnecessarily. If you take a regular SingleThreadExecutor, give it all the tasks, and it will do the queueing natively.

How do I change the background color of a plot made with ggplot2

To change the panel's background color, use the following code:

myplot + theme(panel.background = element_rect(fill = 'green', colour = 'red'))

To change the color of the plot (but not the color of the panel), you can do:

myplot + theme(plot.background = element_rect(fill = 'green', colour = 'red'))

See here for more theme details Quick reference sheet for legends, axes and themes.

In Javascript, how do I check if an array has duplicate values?

Well I did a bit of searching around the internet for you and I found this handy link.

Easiest way to find duplicate values in a JavaScript array

You can adapt the sample code that is provided in the above link, courtesy of "swilliams" to your solution.

How to make matrices in Python?

you can do it short like this:

matrix = [["A, B, C, D, E"]*5]
print(matrix)

[['A, B, C, D, E', 'A, B, C, D, E', 'A, B, C, D, E', 'A, B, C, D, E', 'A, B, C, D, E']]

Redirect From Action Filter Attribute

It sounds like you want to re-implement, or possibly extend, AuthorizeAttribute. If so, you should make sure that you inherit that, and not ActionFilterAttribute, in order to let ASP.NET MVC do more of the work for you.

Also, you want to make sure that you authorize before you do any of the real work in the action method - otherwise, the only difference between logged in and not will be what page you see when the work is done.

public class CustomAuthorizeAttribute : AuthorizeAttribute
{
    public override void OnAuthorization(AuthorizationContext filterContext)
    {
        // Do whatever checking you need here

        // If you want the base check as well (against users/roles) call
        base.OnAuthorization(filterContext);
    }
}

There is a good question with an answer with more details here on SO.

How do I do a HTTP GET in Java?

The simplest way that doesn't require third party libraries it to create a URL object and then call either openConnection or openStream on it. Note that this is a pretty basic API, so you won't have a lot of control over the headers.

How to count the number of rows in excel with data?

I prefer using the CurrentRegion property, which is equivalent to Ctrl-*, which expands the current range to its largest continuous range with data. You start with a cell, or range, which you know will contain data, then expand it. The UsedRange Property sometimes returns huge areas, just because someone did some formatting at the bottom of the sheet.

Dim Liste As Worksheet
Set Liste = wb.Worksheets("B Leistungen (Liste)")
Dim longlastrow As Long
longlastrow = Liste.Range(Liste.Cells(4, 1), Liste.Cells(6, 3)).CurrentRegion.Rows.Count

Rebase feature branch onto another feature branch

I know you asked to Rebase, but I'd Cherry-Pick the commits I wanted to move from Branch2 to Branch1 instead. That way, I wouldn't need to care about when which branch was created from master, and I'd have more control over the merging.

a -- b -- c                  <-- Master
     \     \
      \     d -- e -- f -- g <-- Branch1 (Cherry-Pick f & g)
       \
        f -- g               <-- Branch2

Correct use of transactions in SQL Server

Add a try/catch block, if the transaction succeeds it will commit the changes, if the transaction fails the transaction is rolled back:

BEGIN TRANSACTION [Tran1]

  BEGIN TRY

      INSERT INTO [Test].[dbo].[T1] ([Title], [AVG])
      VALUES ('Tidd130', 130), ('Tidd230', 230)

      UPDATE [Test].[dbo].[T1]
      SET [Title] = N'az2' ,[AVG] = 1
      WHERE [dbo].[T1].[Title] = N'az'

      COMMIT TRANSACTION [Tran1]

  END TRY

  BEGIN CATCH

      ROLLBACK TRANSACTION [Tran1]

  END CATCH
