Multiple linear regression in Python

Use scipy.optimize.curve_fit. And not only for linear fit.

from scipy.optimize import curve_fit
import scipy

def fn(x, a, b, c):
    return a + b*x[0] + c*x[1]

# y(x0,x1) data:
#    x0=0 1 2
# ___________
# x1=0 |0 1 2
# x1=1 |1 2 3
# x1=2 |2 3 4

x = scipy.array([[0,1,2,0,1,2,0,1,2,],[0,0,0,1,1,1,2,2,2]])
y = scipy.array([0,1,2,1,2,3,2,3,4])
popt, pcov = curve_fit(fn, x, y)
print popt

How do you redirect HTTPS to HTTP?

If none of the above solutions work for you (they did not for me) here is what worked on my server:

RewriteCond %{HTTPS} =on
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://%{HTTP_HOST}/$1 [L,R=301]

How can I uninstall an application using PowerShell?

$app = Get-WmiObject -Class Win32_Product | Where-Object {
    $_.Name -match "Software Name"
}

$app.Uninstall()

Edit: Rob found another way to do it with the Filter parameter:

$app = Get-WmiObject -Class Win32_Product `
                     -Filter "Name = 'Software Name'"

Ruby sleep or delay less than a second?

Maven does not find JUnit tests to run

Many of these answers were quite useful to me in the past, but I would like to add an additional scenario that has cost me some time, as it may help others in the future:

Make sure that the test classes and methods are public.

My problem was that I was using an automatic test class/methods generation feature of my IDE (IntelliJ) and for some reason it created them as package-private. I find this to be easier to miss than one would expect.

How to asynchronously call a method in Java

Java also provides a nice way of calling async methods. in java.util.concurrent we have ExecutorService that helps in doing the same. Initialize your object like this -

 private ExecutorService asyncExecutor = Executors.newFixedThreadPool(Runtime.getRuntime().availableProcessors());

and then call the function like-

asyncExecutor.execute(() -> {

                        TimeUnit.SECONDS.sleep(3L);}

Turn off auto formatting in Visual Studio

In addition to Tango's answer for the actual solution, there may be people actually want to stay current with auto-formats but not have it screw up your relevant changes. I would suggest that you modify the file to have auto-format activate, check in those changes, then proceed with the actual changes you wish to make.

That way your code can stay up to date, but your check in will be relevant.

Checking for #N/A in Excel cell from VBA code

First check for an error (N/A value) and then try the comparisation against cvErr(). You are comparing two different things, a value and an error. This may work, but not always. Simply casting the expression to an error may result in similar problems because it is not a real error only the value of an error which depends on the expression.

If IsError(ActiveWorkbook.Sheets("Publish").Range("G4").offset(offsetCount, 0).Value) Then
  If (ActiveWorkbook.Sheets("Publish").Range("G4").offset(offsetCount, 0).Value <> CVErr(xlErrNA)) Then
    'do something
  End If
End If

Using Caps Lock as Esc in Mac OS X

You can also use DoubleCommand to remap this, and other keys.

IIRC, it will map Caps Lock to Esc.

Is there a reason for C#'s reuse of the variable in a foreach?

What you are asking is thoroughly covered by Eric Lippert in his blog post Closing over the loop variable considered harmful and its sequel.

For me, the most convincing argument is that having new variable in each iteration would be inconsistent with for(;;) style loop. Would you expect to have a new int i in each iteration of for (int i = 0; i < 10; i++)?

The most common problem with this behavior is making a closure over iteration variable and it has an easy workaround:

foreach (var s in strings)
{
    var s_for_closure = s;
    query = query.Where(i => i.Prop == s_for_closure); // access to modified closure

My blog post about this issue: Closure over foreach variable in C#.

Fastest way to check if a value exists in a list

Code to check whether two elements exist in array whose product equals k:

n = len(arr1)
for i in arr1:
    if k%i==0:
        print(i)

How is "mvn clean install" different from "mvn install"?

Maven lets you specify either goals or lifecycle phases on the command line (or both).

clean and install are two different phases of two different lifecycles, to which different plugin goals are bound (either per default or explicitly in your pom.xml)

The clean phase, per convention, is meant to make a build reproducible, i.e. it cleans up anything that was created by previous builds. In most cases it does that by calling clean:clean, which deletes the directory bound to ${project.build.directory} (usually called "target")

PHP - Get bool to echo false when false

This is the easiest way to do this:

$text = var_export($bool_value,true);
echo $text;

or

var_export($bool_value)

If the second argument is not true, it will output the result directly.

Sorting object property by values

OK, as you may know, javascript has sort() function, to sort arrays, but nothing for object...

So in that case, we need to somehow get array of the keys and sort them, thats the reason the apis gives you objects in an array most of the time, because Array has more native functions to play with them than object literal, anyway, the quick solotion is using Object.key which return an array of the object keys, I create the ES6 function below which does the job for you, it uses native sort() and reduce() functions in javascript:

function sortObject(obj) {
  return Object.keys(obj)
    .sort().reduce((a, v) => {
    a[v] = obj[v];
    return a; }, {});
}

And now you can use it like this:

let myObject = {a: 1, c: 3, e: 5, b: 2, d: 4};
let sortedMyObject = sortObject(myObject);

Check the sortedMyObject and you can see the result sorted by keys like this:

{a: 1, b: 2, c: 3, d: 4, e: 5}

Also this way, the main object won't be touched and we actually getting a new object.

I also create the image below, to make the function steps more clear, in case you need to change it a bit to work it your way:

Sorting a javascript object by property value

Testing HTML email rendering

Yes, you can use any of these popular tools:

Filter rows which contain a certain string

edit included the newer across() syntax

Here's another tidyverse solution, using filter(across()) or previously filter_at. The advantage is that you can easily extend to more than one column.

Below also a solution with filter_all in order to find the string in any column, using diamonds as example, looking for the string "V"

library(tidyverse)

String in only one column

# for only one column... extendable to more than one creating a column list in `across` or `vars`!
mtcars %>%
  rownames_to_column("type") %>%
  filter(across(type, ~ !grepl('Toyota|Mazda', .))) %>%
  head()
#> type mpg cyl disp hp drat wt qsec vs am gear carb
#> 1        Datsun 710 22.8   4 108.0  93 3.85 2.320 18.61  1  1    4    1
#> 2    Hornet 4 Drive 21.4   6 258.0 110 3.08 3.215 19.44  1  0    3    1
#> 3 Hornet Sportabout 18.7   8 360.0 175 3.15 3.440 17.02  0  0    3    2
#> 4           Valiant 18.1   6 225.0 105 2.76 3.460 20.22  1  0    3    1
#> 5        Duster 360 14.3   8 360.0 245 3.21 3.570 15.84  0  0    3    4
#> 6         Merc 240D 24.4   4 146.7  62 3.69 3.190 20.00  1  0    4    2

The now superseded syntax for the same would be:

mtcars %>%
  rownames_to_column("type") %>%
  filter_at(.vars= vars(type), all_vars(!grepl('Toyota|Mazda',.)))

String in all columns:

# remove all rows where any column contains 'V'
diamonds %>%
  filter(across(everything(), ~ !grepl('V', .))) %>%
  head
#> # A tibble: 6 x 10
#> carat cut color clarity depth table price x y z
#>   <dbl> <ord>   <ord> <ord>   <dbl> <dbl> <int> <dbl> <dbl> <dbl>
#> 1  0.23 Ideal   E     SI2      61.5    55   326  3.95  3.98  2.43
#> 2  0.21 Premium E     SI1      59.8    61   326  3.89  3.84  2.31
#> 3  0.31 Good    J     SI2      63.3    58   335  4.34  4.35  2.75
#> 4  0.3  Good    J     SI1      64      55   339  4.25  4.28  2.73
#> 5  0.22 Premium F     SI1      60.4    61   342  3.88  3.84  2.33
#> 6  0.31 Ideal   J     SI2      62.2    54   344  4.35  4.37  2.71

The now superseded syntax for the same would be:

diamonds %>%
  filter_all(all_vars(!grepl('V', .))) %>%
  head

I tried to find an across alternative for the following, but I didn't immediately come up with a good solution:

    #get all rows where any column contains 'V'
    diamonds %>%
    filter_all(any_vars(grepl('V',.))) %>%
      head
    #> # A tibble: 6 x 10
    #> carat cut color clarity depth table price x y z
    #>   <dbl> <ord>     <ord> <ord>   <dbl> <dbl> <int> <dbl> <dbl> <dbl>
    #> 1 0.23  Good      E     VS1      56.9    65   327  4.05  4.07  2.31

    #> 5 0.26  Very Good H     SI1      61.9    55   337  4.07  4.11  2.53

Update: Thanks to user Petr Kajzar in this answer, here also an approach for the above:

diamonds %>%
   filter(rowSums(across(everything(), ~grepl("V", .x))) > 0)

How to use PHP's password_hash to hash and verify passwords

Yes, it's true. Why do you doubt the php faq on the function? :)

The result of running password_hash() has has four parts:

  1. the algorithm used
  2. parameters
  3. salt
  4. actual password hash

So as you can see, the hash is a part of it.

Sure, you could have an additional salt for an added layer of security, but I honestly think that's overkill in a regular php application. The default bcrypt algorithm is good, and the optional blowfish one is arguably even better.

Automatic date update in a cell when another cell's value changes (as calculated by a formula)

You could fill the dependend cell (D2) by a User Defined Function (VBA Macro Function) that takes the value of the C2-Cell as input parameter, returning the current date as ouput.

Having C2 as input parameter for the UDF in D2 tells Excel that it needs to reevaluate D2 everytime C2 changes (that is if auto-calculation of formulas is turned on for the workbook).

EDIT:

Here is some code:

For the UDF:

    Public Function UDF_Date(ByVal data) As Date

        UDF_Date = Now()

    End Function

As Formula in D2:

=UDF_Date(C2)

You will have to give the D2-Cell a Date-Time Format, or it will show a numeric representation of the date-value.

And you can expand the formula over the desired range by draging it if you keep the C2 reference in the D2-formula relative.

Note: This still might not be the ideal solution because every time Excel recalculates the workbook the date in D2 will be reset to the current value. To make D2 only reflect the last time C2 was changed there would have to be some kind of tracking of the past value(s) of C2. This could for example be implemented in the UDF by providing also the address alonside the value of the input parameter, storing the input parameters in a hidden sheet, and comparing them with the previous values everytime the UDF gets called.

Addendum:

Here is a sample implementation of an UDF that tracks the changes of the cell values and returns the date-time when the last changes was detected. When using it, please be aware that:

  • The usage of the UDF is the same as described above.

  • The UDF works only for single cell input ranges.

  • The cell values are tracked by storing the last value of cell and the date-time when the change was detected in the document properties of the workbook. If the formula is used over large datasets the size of the file might increase considerably as for every cell that is tracked by the formula the storage requirements increase (last value of cell + date of last change.) Also, maybe Excel is not capable of handling very large amounts of document properties and the code might brake at a certain point.

  • If the name of a worksheet is changed all the tracking information of the therein contained cells is lost.

  • The code might brake for cell-values for which conversion to string is non-deterministic.

  • The code below is not tested and should be regarded only as proof of concept. Use it at your own risk.

    Public Function UDF_Date(ByVal inData As Range) As Date

        Dim wb As Workbook
        Dim dProps As DocumentProperties
        Dim pValue As DocumentProperty
        Dim pDate As DocumentProperty
        Dim sName As String
        Dim sNameDate As String

        Dim bDate As Boolean
        Dim bValue As Boolean
        Dim bChanged As Boolean

        bDate = True
        bValue = True

        bChanged = False

        Dim sVal As String
        Dim dDate As Date

        sName = inData.Address & "_" & inData.Worksheet.Name
        sNameDate = sName & "_dat"

        sVal = CStr(inData.Value)
        dDate = Now()

        Set wb = inData.Worksheet.Parent

        Set dProps = wb.CustomDocumentProperties

    On Error Resume Next

        Set pValue = dProps.Item(sName)

        If Err.Number <> 0 Then
            bValue = False
            Err.Clear
        End If

    On Error GoTo 0

        If Not bValue Then
            bChanged = True
            Set pValue = dProps.Add(sName, False, msoPropertyTypeString, sVal)
        Else
            bChanged = pValue.Value <> sVal
            If bChanged Then
                pValue.Value = sVal
            End If
        End If

    On Error Resume Next

        Set pDate = dProps.Item(sNameDate)

        If Err.Number <> 0 Then
            bDate = False
            Err.Clear
        End If

    On Error GoTo 0

        If Not bDate Then
            Set pDate = dProps.Add(sNameDate, False, msoPropertyTypeDate, dDate)
        End If

        If bChanged Then
            pDate.Value = dDate
        Else
            dDate = pDate.Value
        End If

        UDF_Date = dDate
     End Function

Make the insertion of the date conditional upon the range.

This has an advantage of not changing the dates unless the content of the cell is changed, and it is in the range C2:C2, even if the sheet is closed and saved, it doesn't recalculate unless the adjacent cell changes.

Android SQLite SELECT Query

Try trimming the string to make sure there is no extra white space:

Cursor c = db.rawQuery("SELECT * FROM tbl1 WHERE TRIM(name) = '"+name.trim()+"'", null);

Also use c.moveToFirst() like @thinksteep mentioned.

This is a complete code for select statements.

SQLiteDatabase db = this.getReadableDatabase();
Cursor c = db.rawQuery("SELECT column1,column2,column3 FROM table ", null);
if (c.moveToFirst()){
    do {
        // Passing values
        String column1 = c.getString(0);
        String column2 = c.getString(1);
        String column3 = c.getString(2);
        // Do something Here with values
    } while(c.moveToNext());
}
c.close();
db.close();

Why does LayoutInflater ignore the layout_width and layout_height layout parameters I've specified?

wanna add to main answer above
I tried to follow it but my recyclerView began to stretch every item to a screen
I had to add next line after inflating for reach to goal

itemLayoutView.setLayoutParams(new RecyclerView.LayoutParams(RecyclerView.LayoutParams.MATCH_PARENT, RecyclerView.LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT));

I already added these params by xml but it didnot work correctly
and with this line all is ok

Import-CSV and Foreach

Solution is to change Delimiter.

Content of the csv file -> Note .. Also space and , in value

Values are 6 Dutch word aap,noot,mies,Piet, Gijs, Jan

Col1;Col2;Col3

a,ap;noo,t;mi es

P,iet;G ,ijs;Ja ,n

$csv = Import-Csv C:\TejaCopy.csv -Delimiter ';'

Answer:

Write-Host $csv
@{Col1=a,ap; Col2=noo,t; Col3=mi es} @{Col1=P,iet; Col2=G ,ijs; Col3=Ja ,n}

It is possible to read a CSV file and use other Delimiter to separate each column.

It worked for my script :-)

Is it possible to specify proxy credentials in your web.config?

Yes, it is possible to specify your own credentials without modifying the current code. It requires a small piece of code from your part though.

Create an assembly called SomeAssembly.dll with this class :

namespace SomeNameSpace
{
    public class MyProxy : IWebProxy
    {
        public ICredentials Credentials
        {
            get { return new NetworkCredential("user", "password"); }
            //or get { return new NetworkCredential("user", "password","domain"); }
            set { }
        }

        public Uri GetProxy(Uri destination)
        {
            return new Uri("http://my.proxy:8080");
        }

        public bool IsBypassed(Uri host)
        {
            return false;
        }
    }
}

Add this to your config file :

<defaultProxy enabled="true" useDefaultCredentials="false">
  <module type = "SomeNameSpace.MyProxy, SomeAssembly" />
</defaultProxy>

This "injects" a new proxy in the list, and because there are no default credentials, the WebRequest class will call your code first and request your own credentials. You will need to place the assemble SomeAssembly in the bin directory of your CMS application.

This is a somehow static code, and to get all strings like the user, password and URL, you might either need to implement your own ConfigurationSection, or add some information in the AppSettings, which is far more easier.

Ruby, remove last N characters from a string?

 => 7
> name
 => "Nabuco"

How to change default text color using custom theme?

When you create an App, a file called styles.xml will be created in your res/values folder. If you change the styles, you can change the background, text color, etc for all your layouts. That way you don’t have to go into each individual layout and change the it manually.

styles.xml:

<resources xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
<style name="Theme.AppBaseTheme" parent="@android:style/Theme.Light">
    <item name="android:editTextColor">#295055</item>
    <item name="android:textColorPrimary">#295055</item>
    <item name="android:textColorSecondary">#295055</item>
    <item name="android:textColorTertiary">#295055</item>
    <item name="android:textColorPrimaryInverse">#295055</item>
    <item name="android:textColorSecondaryInverse">#295055</item>
    <item name="android:textColorTertiaryInverse">#295055</item>

     <item name="android:windowBackground">@drawable/custom_background</item>
</style>

<!-- Application theme. -->
<style name="AppTheme" parent="AppBaseTheme">
    <!-- All customizations that are NOT specific to a particular API-level can go here. -->
</style>

parent="@android:style/Theme.Light" is Google’s native colors. Here is a reference of what the native styles are: https://android.googlesource.com/platform/frameworks/base/+/refs/heads/master/core/res/res/values/themes.xml

The default Android style is also called “Theme”. So you calling it Theme probably confused the program.

name="Theme.AppBaseTheme" means that you are creating a style that inherits all the styles from parent="@android:style/Theme.Light". This part you can ignore unless you want to inherit from AppBaseTheme again. = <style name="AppTheme" parent="AppBaseTheme">

@drawable/custom_background is a custom image I put in the drawable’s folder. It is a 300x300 png image.

Then in Android Manifest, remember to include the code:

How to programmatically set the layout_align_parent_right attribute of a Button in Relative Layout?

You can access any LayoutParams from code using View.getLayoutParams. You just have to be very aware of what LayoutParams your accessing. This is normally achieved by checking the containing ViewGroup if it has a LayoutParams inner child then that's the one you should use. In your case it's RelativeLayout.LayoutParams. You'll be using RelativeLayout.LayoutParams#addRule(int verb) and RelativeLayout.LayoutParams#addRule(int verb, int anchor)

You can get to it via code:

RelativeLayout.LayoutParams params = (RelativeLayout.LayoutParams)button.getLayoutParams();
params.addRule(RelativeLayout.ALIGN_PARENT_RIGHT);
params.addRule(RelativeLayout.LEFT_OF, R.id.id_to_be_left_of);

button.setLayoutParams(params); //causes layout update

What does %s mean in a python format string?

%sand %d are Format Specifiers or placeholders for formatting strings/decimals/floats etc.

MOST common used Format specifier:

%s : string

%d : decimals

%f : float

Self explanatory code:

Time stamp in the C programming language

U can try routines in c time library (time.h). Plus take a look at the clock() in the same lib. It gives the clock ticks since the prog has started. But you can save its value before the operation you want to concentrate on, and then after that operation capture the cliock ticks again and find the difference between then to get the time difference.

Is it possible to set a custom font for entire of application?

Working for Xamarin.Android:

Class:

public class FontsOverride
{
    public static void SetDefaultFont(Context context, string staticTypefaceFieldName, string fontAssetName)
    {
        Typeface regular = Typeface.CreateFromAsset(context.Assets, fontAssetName);
        ReplaceFont(staticTypefaceFieldName, regular);
    }

    protected static void ReplaceFont(string staticTypefaceFieldName, Typeface newTypeface)
    {
        try
        {
            Field staticField = ((Java.Lang.Object)(newTypeface)).Class.GetDeclaredField(staticTypefaceFieldName);
            staticField.Accessible = true;
            staticField.Set(null, newTypeface);
        }
        catch (Exception e)
        {
            Console.WriteLine(e.Message);
        }
    }
}

Application Implementation:

namespace SomeAndroidApplication
{
    [Application]
    public class App : Application
    {
        public App()
        {

        }

        public App(IntPtr handle, JniHandleOwnership transfer)
            : base(handle, transfer)

CSS: Truncate table cells, but fit as much as possible

If Javascript is acceptable, I put together a quick routine which you could use as a starting point. It dynamically tries to adapt the cell widths using the inner width of a span, in reaction to window resize events.

Currently it assumes that each cell normally gets 50% of the row width, and it will collapse the right cell to keep the left cell at its maximum width to avoid overflowing. You could implement much more complex width balancing logic, depending on your use cases. Hope this helps:

Markup for the row I used for testing:

<tr class="row">
    <td style="overflow: hidden; text-overflow: ellipsis">
    <span>Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit.</span>
    </td>
    <td style="overflow: hidden; text-overflow: ellipsis">
    <span>Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit.</span>
    </td>
</tr>

JQuery which hooks up the resize event:

$(window).resize(function() {
    $('.row').each(function() {
        var row_width = $(this).width();
        var cols = $(this).find('td');
        var left = cols[0];
        var lcell_width = $(left).width();
        var lspan_width = $(left).find('span').width();
        var right = cols[1];
        var rcell_width = $(right).width();
        var rspan_width = $(right).find('span').width();

        if (lcell_width < lspan_width) {
            $(left).width(row_width - rcell_width);
        } else if (rcell_width > rspan_width) {
            $(left).width(row_width / 2);
        }
    });
});

Laravel migration default value

You can simple put the default value using default(). See the example

 $table->enum('is_approved', array('0','1'))->default('0');

I have used enum here and the default value is 0.

Access camera from a browser

There is a really cool solution from Danny Markov for that. It uses navigator.getUserMedia method and should work in modern browsers. I have tested it successfully with Firefox and Chrome. IE didn't work:

SQL Server procedure declare a list

If you want input comma separated string as input & apply in in query in that then you can make Function like:

create FUNCTION [dbo].[Split](@String varchar(MAX), @Delimiter char(1))
    returns @temptable TABLE (items varchar(MAX))
    as
    begin
        declare @idx int
        declare @slice varchar(8000)

        select @idx = 1
            if len(@String)<1 or @String is null return

        while @idx!= 0
        begin
            set @idx = charindex(@Delimiter,@String)
            if @idx!=0
                set @slice = left(@String,@idx - 1)
            else
                set @slice = @String

            if(len(@slice)>0)
                insert into @temptable(Items) values(@slice)

            set @String = right(@String,len(@String) - @idx)
            if len(@String) = 0 break
        end
    return
    end;

You can use it like :

Declare @Values VARCHAR(MAX);

set @Values ='1,2,5,7,10';
Select * from DBTable
    Where id in (select items from [dbo].[Split] (@Values, ',') )

Alternatively if you don't have comma-separated string as input, You can try Table variable OR TableType Or Temp table like: INSERT using LIST into Stored Procedure

How do I properly compare strings in C?

How do I properly compare strings?

char input[40];
char check[40];
strcpy(input, "Hello"); // input assigned somehow
strcpy(check, "Hello"); // check assigned somehow

// insufficient
while (check != input)

// good
while (strcmp(check, input) != 0)
// or
while (strcmp(check, input))

Let us dig deeper to see why check != input is not sufficient.

In C, string is a standard library specification.

A string is a contiguous sequence of characters terminated by and including the first null character.
C11 §7.1.1 1

input above is not a string. input is array 40 of char.

The contents of input can become a string.

In most cases, when an array is used in an expression, it is converted to the address of its 1st element.

The below converts check and input to their respective addresses of the first element, then those addresses are compared.

check != input // Compare addresses, not the contents of what addresses reference

To compare strings, we need to use those addresses and then look at the data they point to.
strcmp() does the job. §7.23.4.2

int strcmp(const char *s1, const char *s2);

The strcmp function compares the string pointed to by s1 to the string pointed to by s2.

The strcmp function returns an integer greater than, equal to, or less than zero, accordingly as the string pointed to by s1 is greater than, equal to, or less than the string pointed to by s2.

Not only can code find if the strings are of the same data, but which one is greater/less when they differ.

The below is true when the string differ.

strcmp(check, input) != 0

For insight, see Creating my own strcmp() function

How can I specify system properties in Tomcat configuration on startup?

You could add necessary properties to catalina.properties file in <tomcat installation directory>/conf directory.

Reference: https://tomcat.apache.org/tomcat-8.0-doc/config/index.html

All system properties are available including those set using the -D syntax, those automatically made available by the JVM and those configured in the $CATALINA_BASE/conf/catalina.properties file.

Python str vs unicode types

Your terminal happens to be configured to UTF-8.

The fact that printing a works is a coincidence; you are writing raw UTF-8 bytes to the terminal. a is a value of length two, containing two bytes, hex values C3 and A1, while ua is a unicode value of length one, containing a codepoint U+00E1.

This difference in length is one major reason to use Unicode values; you cannot easily measure the number of text characters in a byte string; the len() of a byte string tells you how many bytes were used, not how many characters were encoded.

You can see the difference when you encode the unicode value to different output encodings:

>>> a = 'á'
>>> ua = u'á'
>>> ua.encode('utf8')
'\xc3\xa1'
>>> ua.encode('latin1')
'\xe1'
>>> a
'\xc3\xa1'

Note that the first 256 codepoints of the Unicode standard match the Latin 1 standard, so the U+00E1 codepoint is encoded to Latin 1 as a byte with hex value E1.

Furthermore, Python uses escape codes in representations of unicode and byte strings alike, and low code points that are not printable ASCII are represented using \x.. escape values as well. This is why a Unicode string with a code point between 128 and 255 looks just like the Latin 1 encoding. If you have a unicode string with codepoints beyond U+00FF a different escape sequence, \u.... is used instead, with a four-digit hex value.

It looks like you don't yet fully understand what the difference is between Unicode and an encoding. Please do read the following articles before you continue:

How do I use reflection to invoke a private method?

Simply change your code to use the overloaded version of GetMethod that accepts BindingFlags:

MethodInfo dynMethod = this.GetType().GetMethod("Draw_" + itemType,
    BindingFlags.NonPublic | BindingFlags.Instance);
dynMethod.Invoke(this, new object[] { methodParams });

Here's the BindingFlags enumeration documentation.

Windows 7 SDK installation failure

I have had this same problem with the x64 version installation. It relates (in my case at least) to the dexplore.exe installation. I uninstalled dexplore, reinstalled it, did a heap of registry changes, etc. as per various blogs and SDKs all to no avail. What finally fixed it for me was editing this registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Installer\DisableBrowse

I changed the value to 0. Once the SDK had installed (quite happily this time) I set the value back to 1.

What alerted me to the possible error was the following in the SDK setup log:

12:19:42 PM Friday, 8 January 2010: SFX C:\Program Files\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v7.0\Setup\SFX\dexplore.exe installation started with log file C:\TEMP\Microsoft Windows SDK for Windows 7_dd2d9383-116d-441f-85b3-7c16aeb3568e_SFX.log
12:19:47 PM Friday, 8 January 2010: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v7.0\Setup\SFX\dexplore.exe installation failed with return code 1625

And this in the dexplore installation logfile:

Git error: src refspec master does not match any error: failed to push some refs

It doesn't recognize that you have a master branch, but I found a way to get around it. I found out that there's nothing special about a master branch, you can just create another branch and call it master branch and that's what I did.

To create a master branch:

git checkout -b master

And you can work off of that.

How can I backup a Docker-container with its data-volumes?

If you only need to backup mounted volumes you can just copy folders from your Dockerhost.

Note: If you are on Ubuntu, Dockerhost is your local machine. If you are on Mac, Dockerhost is your virtual machine.

On Ubuntu

You can find all folders with volumes here: /var/lib/docker/volumes/ so you can copy them and archive wherever you want.

On MAC

It's not so easy as on Ubuntu. You need to copy files from VM.

Here is a script of how to copy all folders with volumes from virtual machine (where Docker server is running) to your local machine. We assume that your docker-machine VM named default.

docker-machine ssh default sudo cp -v -R /var/lib/docker/volumes/ /home/docker/volumes

docker-machine ssh default sudo chmod -R 777 /home/docker/volumes

docker-machine scp -R default:/home/docker/volumes ./backup_volumes

docker-machine ssh default sudo rm -r /home/docker/volumes

It is going to create a folder ./backup_volumes in your current directory and copy all volumes to this folder.

Here is a script of how to copy all saved volumes from your local directory (./backup_volumes) to Dockerhost machine

docker-machine scp -r ./backup_volumes default:/home/docker

docker-machine ssh default sudo mv -f /home/docker/backup_volumes /home/docker/volumes

docker-machine ssh default sudo chmod -R 777 /home/docker/volumes

docker-machine ssh default sudo cp -v -R /home/docker/volumes /var/lib/docker/

docker-machine ssh default sudo rm -r /home/docker/volumes

Now you can check if it works by:

docker volume ls

Start redis-server with config file

To start redis with a config file all you need to do is specifiy the config file as an argument:

redis-server /root/config/redis.rb

Instead of using and killing PID's I would suggest creating an init script for your service

I would suggest taking a look at the Installing Redis more properly section of http://redis.io/topics/quickstart. It will walk you through setting up an init script with redis so you can just do something like service redis_server start and service redis_server stop to control your server.

I am not sure exactly what distro you are using, that article describes instructions for a Debian based distro. If you are are using a RHEL/Fedora distro let me know, I can provide you with instructions for the last couple of steps, the config file and most of the other steps will be the same.

Foreach value from POST from form

First, please do not use extract(), it can be a security problem because it is easy to manipulate POST parameters

In addition, you don't have to use variable variable names (that sounds odd), instead:

foreach($_POST as $key => $value) {
  echo "POST parameter '$key' has '$value'";
}

To ensure that you have only parameters beginning with 'item_name' you can check it like so:

$param_name = 'item_name';
if(substr($key, 0, strlen($param_name)) == $param_name) {
  // do something
}

Convert Python dictionary to JSON array

ensure_ascii=False really only defers the issue to the decoding stage:

>>> dict2 = {'LeafTemps': '\xff\xff\xff\xff',}
>>> json1 = json.dumps(dict2, ensure_ascii=False)
>>> print(json1)
{"LeafTemps": "????"}
>>> json.loads(json1)
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "<stdin>", line 1, in <module>
  File "/usr/lib/python2.7/json/__init__.py", line 328, in loads
    return _default_decoder.decode(s)
  File "/usr/lib/python2.7/json/decoder.py", line 365, in decode
    obj, end = self.raw_decode(s, idx=_w(s, 0).end())
  File "/usr/lib/python2.7/json/decoder.py", line 381, in raw_decode
    obj, end = self.scan_once(s, idx)
UnicodeDecodeError: 'utf8' codec can't decode byte 0xff in position 0: invalid start byte

Ultimately you can't store raw bytes in a JSON document, so you'll want to use some means of unambiguously encoding a sequence of arbitrary bytes as an ASCII string - such as base64.

>>> import json
>>> from base64 import b64encode, b64decode
>>> my_dict = {'LeafTemps': '\xff\xff\xff\xff',}
>>> my_dict['LeafTemps'] = b64encode(my_dict['LeafTemps'])
>>> json.dumps(my_dict)
'{"LeafTemps": "/////w=="}'
>>> json.loads(json.dumps(my_dict))
{u'LeafTemps': u'/////w=='}
>>> new_dict = json.loads(json.dumps(my_dict))
>>> new_dict['LeafTemps'] = b64decode(new_dict['LeafTemps'])
>>> print new_dict
{u'LeafTemps': '\xff\xff\xff\xff'}

Is there an onSelect event or equivalent for HTML <select>?

To properly fire an event every time the user selects something(even the same option), you just need to trick the select box.

Like others have said, specify a negative selectedIndex on focus to force the change event. While this does allow you to trick the select box, it won't work after that as long as it still has focus. The simple fix is to force the select box to blur, shown below.

Standard JS/HTML:

<select onchange="myCallback();" onfocus="this.selectedIndex=-1;this.blur();">
  <option>A</option>
  <option>B</option>
  <option>C</option>
</select>

jQuery Plugin:

<select>
  <option>A</option>
  <option>B</option>
  <option>C</option>
</select>

<script type="text/javascript">
    $.fn.alwaysChange = function(callback) {
        return this.each(function(){
            var elem = this;
            var $this = $(this);

            $this.change(function(){
                if(callback) callback($this.val());
            }).focus(function(){
                elem.selectedIndex = -1;
                elem.blur();
            });
        });
    }

    $('select').alwaysChange(function(val){
        // Optional change event callback,
        //    shorthand for $('select').alwaysChange().change(function(){});
    });
</script>

Android and setting alpha for (image) view alpha

It's easier than the other response. There is an xml value alpha that takes double values.

android:alpha="0.0" thats invisible

android:alpha="0.5" see-through

android:alpha="1.0" full visible

That's how it works.

JSON serialization/deserialization in ASP.Net Core

You can use Newtonsoft.Json, it's a dependency of Microsoft.AspNet.Mvc.ModelBinding which is a dependency of Microsoft.AspNet.Mvc. So, you don't need to add a dependency in your project.json.

#using Newtonsoft.Json
....
JsonConvert.DeserializeObject(json);

Note, using a WebAPI controller you don't need to deal with JSON.

UPDATE ASP.Net Core 3.0

Json.NET has been removed from the ASP.NET Core 3.0 shared framework.

You can use the new JSON serializer layers on top of the high-performance Utf8JsonReader and Utf8JsonWriter. It deserializes objects from JSON and serializes objects to JSON. Memory allocations are kept minimal and includes support for reading and writing JSON with Stream asynchronously.

To get started, use the JsonSerializer class in the System.Text.Json.Serialization namespace. See the documentation for information and samples.

To use Json.NET in an ASP.NET Core 3.0 project:

    services.AddMvc()
        .AddNewtonsoftJson();

Read Json.NET support in Migrate from ASP.NET Core 2.2 to 3.0 Preview 2 for more information.

I could be wrong, but I thought that slashes only appeared in branch names when they related to a remote repo, for example origin/master.

Handling of non breaking space: <p>&nbsp;</p> vs. <p> </p>

If I understand your issue this should work

&emsp—the em space; this should be a very wide space, typically as much as four real spaces. &ensp—the en space; this should be a somewhat wide space, roughly two regular spaces. &thinsp—this will be a narrow space, even more narrow than a regular space.

Math constant PI value in C

I don't know exactly how C calculates PI directly as I'm more familiar with C++ than C; however, you could either have a predefined C macro or const such as:

#define PI 3.14159265359.....
const float PI = 3.14159265359.....
const double PI = 3.14159265359.....
/* If your machine,os & compiler supports the long double */
const long double PI = 3.14159265359.....

or you could calculate it with either of these two formulas:

#define M_PI acos(-1.0);
#define M_PI (4.0 * atan(1.0)); // tan(pi/4) = 1 or acos(-1)

IMHO I'm not 100% certain but I think atan() is cheaper than acos().

Setting active profile and config location from command line in spring boot

Michael Yin's answer is correct but a better explanation seems to be required!

A lot of you mentioned that -D is the correct way to specify JVM parameters and you are absolutely right. But Michael is also right as mentioned in Spring Boot Profiles documentation.

What is not clear in the documentation, is what kind of parameter it is: --spring.profiles.active is a not a standard JVM parameter so if you want to use it in your IDE fill the correct fields (i.e. program arguments)

How to get domain URL and application name?

If you are being passed a url as a String and want to extract the context root of that application, you can use this regex to extract it. It will work for full urls or relative urls that begin with the context root.

    if m:
      return m.group(1)

Querying date field in MongoDB with Mongoose

{ "date" : "1000000" } in your Mongo doc seems suspect. Since it's a number, it should be { date : 1000000 }

It's probably a type mismatch. Try post.findOne({date: "1000000"}, callback) and if that works, you have a typing issue.

XSLT counting elements with a given value

This XPath:

count(//Property[long = '11007'])

returns the same value as:

count(//Property/long[text() = '11007'])

...except that the first counts Property nodes that match the criterion and the second counts long child nodes that match the criterion.

As per your comment and reading your question a couple of times, I believe that you want to find uniqueness based on a combination of criteria. Therefore, in actuality, I think you are actually checking multiple conditions. The following would work as well:

count(//Property[@Name = 'Alive'][long = '11007'])

because it means the same thing as:

count(//Property[@Name = 'Alive' and long = '11007'])

Of course, you would substitute the values for parameters in your template. The above code only illustrates the point.

EDIT (after question edit)

You were quite right about the XML being horrible. In fact, this is a downright CodingHorror candidate! I had to keep recounting to keep track of the "Property" node I was on presently. I feel your pain!

Here you go:

count(/root/ac/Properties/Property[Properties/Property/Properties/Property/long = $parPropId])

Note that I have removed all the other checks (for ID and Value). They appear not to be required since you are able to arrive at the relevant node using the hierarchy in the XML. Also, you already mentioned that the check for uniqueness is based only on the contents of the long element.

How do I URL encode a string

New APIs have been added since the answer was selected; You can now use NSURLUtilities. Since different parts of URLs allow different characters, use the applicable character set. The following example encodes for inclusion in the query string:

encodedString = [myString stringByAddingPercentEncodingWithAllowedCharacters:NSCharacterSet.URLQueryAllowedCharacterSet];

To specifically convert '&', you'll need to remove it from the url query set or use a different set, as '&' is allowed in a URL query:

NSMutableCharacterSet *chars = NSCharacterSet.URLQueryAllowedCharacterSet.mutableCopy;
[chars removeCharactersInRange:NSMakeRange('&', 1)]; // %26
encodedString = [myString stringByAddingPercentEncodingWithAllowedCharacters:chars];

MySQL TEXT vs BLOB vs CLOB

It's worth to mention that CLOB / BLOB data types and their sizes are supported by MySQL 5.0+, so you can choose the proper data type for your need.

http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.7/en/storage-requirements.html

Data Type Date Type Storage Required
(CLOB)      (BLOB)

TINYTEXT    TINYBLOB    L + 1 bytes, where L < 2**8  (255)
TEXT        BLOB        L + 2 bytes, where L < 2**16 (64 K)
MEDIUMTEXT  MEDIUMBLOB  L + 3 bytes, where L < 2**24 (16 MB)
LONGTEXT    LONGBLOB    L + 4 bytes, where L < 2**32 (4 GB)

where L stands for the byte length of a string

How to retrieve a single file from a specific revision in Git?

In addition to all the options listed by other answers, you can use git reset with the Git object (hash, branch, HEAD~x, tag, ...) of interest and the path of your file:

git reset <hash> /path/to/file

In your example:

git reset 27cf8e8 my_file.txt

What this does is that it will revert my_file.txt to its version at the commit 27cf8e8 in the index while leaving it untouched (so in its current version) in the working directory.

From there, things are very easy:

  • you can compare the two versions of your file with git diff --cached my_file.txt
  • you can get rid of the old version of the file with git restore --staged file.txt (or, prior to Git v2.23, git reset file.txt) if you decide that you don't like it
  • you can restore the old version with git commit -m "Restore version of file.txt from 27cf8e8" and git restore file.txt (or, prior to Git v2.23, git checkout -- file.txt)
  • you can add updates from the old to the new version only for some hunks by running git add -p file.txt (then git commit and git restore file.txt).

Lastly, you can even interactively pick and choose which hunk(s) to reset in the very first step if you run:

git reset -p 27cf8e8 my_file.txt

So git reset with a path gives you lots of flexibility to retrieve a specific version of a file to compare with its currently checked-out version and, if you choose to do so, to revert fully or only for some hunks to that version.

Edit: I just realized that I am not answering your question since what you wanted wasn't a diff or an easy way to retrieve part or all of the old version but simply to cat that version.

Of course, you can still do that after resetting the file with:

git show :file.txt

to output to standard output or

git show :file.txt > file_at_27cf8e8.txt

But if this was all you wanted, running git show directly with git show 27cf8e8:file.txt as others suggested is of course much more direct.

I am going to leave this answer though because running git show directly allows you to get that old version instantly, but if you want to do something with it, it isn't nearly as convenient to do so from there as it is if you reset that version in the index.

Virtual member call in a constructor

In order to answer your question, consider this question: what will the below code print out when the Child object is instantiated?

class Parent
{
    public Parent()
    {
        DoSomething();
    }

    protected virtual void DoSomething()
    {
    }
}

class Child : Parent
{
    private string foo;

    public Child()
    {
        foo = "HELLO";
    }

    protected override void DoSomething()
    {
        Console.WriteLine(foo.ToLower()); //NullReferenceException!?!
    }
}

The answer is that in fact a NullReferenceException will be thrown, because foo is null. An object's base constructor is called before its own constructor. By having a virtual call in an object's constructor you are introducing the possibility that inheriting objects will execute code before they have been fully initialized.

What is the correct XPath for choosing attributes that contain "foo"?

If you also need to match the content of the link itself, use text():

MySQL: Error dropping database (errno 13; errno 17; errno 39)

Quick Fix

If you just want to drop the database no matter what (but please first read the whole post: the error was given for a reason, and it might be important to know what the reason was!), you can:

  • find the datadir with the command SHOW VARIABLES WHERE Variable_name LIKE '%datadir%';
  • stop the MySQL server (e.g. service mysql stop or rcmysqld stop or similar on Linux, NET STOP <name of MYSQL service, often MYSQL57 or similar> or through SERVICES.MSC on Windows)
  • go to the datadir (this is where you should investigate; see below)
  • remove the directory with the same name as the database
  • start MySQL server again and connect to it
  • execute a DROP DATABASE
  • that's it!

Reasons for Errno 13

MySQL has no write permission on the parent directory in which the mydb folder resides.

Check it with

ls -la /path/to/data/dir/ # see below on how to discover data dir
ls -la /path/to/data/dir/mydb

On Linux, this can also happen if you mix and match MySQL and AppArmor/SELinux packages. What happens is that AppArmor expects mysqld to have its data in /path/to/data/dir, and allows full R/W there, but MySQLd is from a different distribution or build, and it actually stores its data elsewhere (e.g.: /var/lib/mysql5/data/** as opposed to /var/lib/mysql/**). So what you see is that the directory has correct permissions and ownership and yet it still gives Errno 13 because apparmor/selinux won't allow access to it.

To verify, check the system log for security violations, manually inspect apparmor/selinux configuration, and/or impersonate the mysql user and try going to the base var directory, then cd incrementally until you're in the target directory, and run something like touch aardvark && rm aardvark. If permissions and ownership match, and yet the above yields an access error, chances are that it's a security framework issue.

"EASY FIX" considered harmful

I have happened upon an "easy fix" suggested on a "experts forum" (not Stack Overflow, thank goodness), the same "fix" I sometimes find for Web and FTP problems -- chown 777. PLEASE NEVER DO THAT. For those who don't already know, 777 (or 775, or 666) isn't a magic number that somehow MySQL programmers forgot to apply themselves, or don't want you to know. Each digit has a meaning, and 777 means "I hereby consent to everyone doing whatever they want with my stuff, up to and including executing it as if it were a binary or shell script". By doing this (and chances are you won't be allowed to do this on a sanely configured system),

  • you risk several security conscious programs to refuse to function anymore (e.g. if you do that to your SSH keys, goodbye SSH connections; etc.) since they realize they're now in a insecure context.
  • you allow literally everyone with any level of access whatsoever to the system to read and write your data, whether MySQL allows it or not, unbeknownst to MySQL itself - i.e. it becomes possible to silently corrupt whole databases.
  • the above might sometimes be done, in exceedingly dire straits, by desperate and knowledgeable people, to gain access again to an otherwise inaccessible screwed MySQL installation (i.e. even mysqladmin no longer grants local access), and will be immediately undone as soon as things get back to normal - it's not a permanent change, not even then. And it's not a fix to "one weird trick to be able to drop my DB".

(needless to say, it's almost never the real fix to any Web or FTP problems either. The fix to "Of late, the wife's keys fail to open the front door and she can't enter our home" is 'check the keys or have the lock repaired or replaced'; the admittedly much quicker chown 777 is "Just leave the front door wide open! Easy peasy! What's the worst that might happen?")

Reasons for Errno 39

This code means "directory not empty". The directory contains some hidden files MySQL knows nothing about. For non-hidden files, see Errno 17. The solution is the same.

Reasons for Errno 17

This code means "file exists". The directory contains some MySQL file that MySQL doesn't feel about deleting. Such files could have been created by a SELECT ... INTO OUTFILE "filename"; command where filename had no path. In this case, the MySQL process creates them in its current working directory, which (tested on MySQL 5.6 on OpenSuSE 12.3) is the data directory of the database, e.g. /var/lib/mysql/data/nameofdatabase.

Reproducibility:

Welcome to the MySQL monitor. Commands end with ; or \g.
Your MySQL connection id is 1676
Server version: 5.6.12-log openSUSE package
[ snip ]

mysql> CREATE DATABASE pippo;
Query OK, 1 row affected (0.00 sec)

mysql> USE pippo;
Database changed
mysql> SELECT version() INTO OUTFILE 'test';
Query OK, 1 row affected (0.00 sec)

mysql> DROP DATABASE pippo;
ERROR 1010 (HY000): Error dropping database (can't rmdir './pippo/', errno: 17)

-- now from another console I delete the "test" file, without closing this connection
-- and just retry. Now it works.

mysql> DROP DATABASE pippo;
Query OK, 0 rows affected (0.00 sec)

Move the file(s) outside (or delete if not needed) and retry. Also, determine why they were created in the first place - it could point to a bug in some application. Or worse: see below...

UPDATE: Error 17 as exploit flag

This happened on a Linux system with Wordpress installed. Unfortunately the customer was under time constraints and I could neither image the disk or do a real forensics round - I reinstalled the whole machine and Wordpress got updated in the process, so I can only say that I'm almost certain they did it through this plugin.

Symptoms: the mysql data directory contained three files with extension PHP. Wait, what?!? -- and inside the files there was a bulk of base64 code which was passed to base64_decode, gzuncompress and [eval()][2]. Aha. Of course these were only the first attempts, the unsuccessful ones. The site had been well and truly pwn3d.

So if you find a file in your mysql data dir that's causing an Error 17, check it with file utility or scan it with an antivirus. Or visually inspect its contents. Do not assume it's there for some innocuous mistake.

(Needless to say, to visually inspect the file, never double click it).

The victim in this case (he had some friend "do the maintenance") would never have guessed he'd been hacked until a maintenance/update/whatever script ran a DROP DATABASE (do not ask me why - I'm not sure even I want to know) and got an error. From the CPU load and the syslog messages, I'm fairly positive that the host had become a spam farm.

Yet another Error 17

If you rsync or copy between two MySQL installations of the same version but different platform or file systems such as Linux or Windows (which is discouraged, and risky, but many do it nonetheless), and specifically with different case sensitivity settings, you can accidentally end up with two versions of the same file (either data, index, or metadata); say Customers.myi and Customer.MYI. MySQL uses one of them and knows nothing about the other (which could be out of date and lead to a disastrous sync). When dropping the database, which also happens in many a mysqldump ... | ... mysql backup schemes, the DROP will fail because that extra file (or those extra files) exists. If this happens, you should be able to recognize the obsolete file(s) that need manual deletion from the file time, or from the fact that their case scheme is different from the majority of the other tables.

Finding the data-dir

In general, you can find the data directory by inspecting the my.cnf file (/etc/my.cnf, /etc/sysconfig/my.cnf, /etc/mysql/my.cnf on Linux; my.ini in the MySQL program files directory in Windows), under the [mysqld] heading, as datadir.

Alternatively you can ask it to MySQL itself:

mysql> SHOW VARIABLES WHERE Variable_name LIKE '%datadir%';
+---------------+-----------------+
| Variable_name | Value           |
+---------------+-----------------+
| datadir       | /var/lib/mysql/ |
+---------------+-----------------+
1 row in set (0.00 sec)

what is the use of Eval() in asp.net

While binding a databound control, you can evaluate a field of the row in your data source with eval() function.

For example you can add a column to your gridview like that :

<asp:BoundField DataField="YourFieldName" />

And alternatively, this is the way with eval :

<asp:TemplateField>
<ItemTemplate>
        <asp:Label ID="lbl" runat="server" Text='<%# Eval("YourFieldName") %>'>
        </asp:Label>
</ItemTemplate>
</asp:TemplateField>

It seems a little bit complex, but it's flexible, because you can set any property of the control with the eval() function :

<asp:TemplateField>
    <ItemTemplate>
        <asp:HyperLink ID="HyperLink1" runat="server"
          NavigateUrl='<%# "ShowDetails.aspx?id="+Eval("Id") %>'
          Text='<%# Eval("Text", "{0}") %>'></asp:HyperLink>
    </ItemTemplate>
</asp:TemplateField>

Reset CSS display property to default value

No, it is generally not possible. Once some CSS (or HTML) code sets a value for a property on an element, there is no way to undo it and tell the browser to use its default value.

It is of course possible to set a property a value that you expect to be the default value. This may work rather widely if you check the Rendering section of HTML5 CR, mostly reflecting what browsers actually do.

Still, the answer is “No”, because browsers may have whatever default values they like. You should analyze what was the reason for wanting to reset to defaults; the original problem may still be solvable.

Angular2 - Radio Button Binding

As much as this answer might not be the best depending on your use case, it works. Instead of using the Radio button for a Male and Female selection, using the <select> </select> works perfectly, both for saving and editing.

<select formControlName="gender" name="gender" class="">
  <option value="M">Male</option>
  <option value="F">Female</option>
</select>

The above should do just fine, for editing using FormGroup with patchValue. For creating, you could use [(ngModel)] instead of the formControlName. Still works.

The plumbing work involved with the radio button one, I chose to go with the select instead. Visually and UX-wise, it doesn't appear to be the best, but from a developer's standpoint, it's a ton easier.

How to find controls in a repeater header or footer

As noted in the comments, this only works AFTER you've DataBound your repeater.

To find a control in the header:

lblControl = repeater1.Controls[0].Controls[0].FindControl("lblControl");

To find a control in the footer:

lblControl = repeater1.Controls[repeater1.Controls.Count - 1].Controls[0].FindControl("lblControl");

With extension methods

public static class RepeaterExtensionMethods
{
    public static Control FindControlInHeader(this Repeater repeater, string controlName)
    {
        return repeater.Controls[0].Controls[0].FindControl(controlName);
    }

    public static Control FindControlInFooter(this Repeater repeater, string controlName)
    {
        return repeater.Controls[repeater.Controls.Count - 1].Controls[0].FindControl(controlName);
    }
}

function text_from(node) {
    const extract = (node) => [...node.childNodes].reduce(
        (acc, childnode) => [
            ...acc,
            childnode.nodeType === Node.TEXT_NODE ? childnode.textContent.trim() : '',
            ...extract(childnode),
            ...(childnode.shadowRoot ? extract(childnode.shadowRoot) : [])],
        []);

    return extract(node).filter(text => text.length).join('\n');
}

This solution was inspired by the solution of https://stackoverflow.com/a/41051238./1300775.

Differences between "BEGIN RSA PRIVATE KEY" and "BEGIN PRIVATE KEY"

See https://polarssl.org/kb/cryptography/asn1-key-structures-in-der-and-pem (search the page for "BEGIN RSA PRIVATE KEY") (archive link for posterity, just in case).

BEGIN RSA PRIVATE KEY is PKCS#1 and is just an RSA key. It is essentially just the key object from PKCS#8, but without the version or algorithm identifier in front. BEGIN PRIVATE KEY is PKCS#8 and indicates that the key type is included in the key data itself. From the link:

The unencrypted PKCS#8 encoded data starts and ends with the tags:

-----BEGIN PRIVATE KEY-----
BASE64 ENCODED DATA
-----END PRIVATE KEY-----

Within the base64 encoded data the following DER structure is present:

PrivateKeyInfo ::= SEQUENCE {
  version         Version,
  algorithm       AlgorithmIdentifier,
  PrivateKey      BIT STRING
}

AlgorithmIdentifier ::= SEQUENCE {
  algorithm       OBJECT IDENTIFIER,
  parameters ANY DEFINED BY algorithm OPTIONAL
}

So for an RSA private key, the OID is 1.2.840.113549.1.1.1 and there is a RSAPrivateKey as the PrivateKey key data bitstring.

As opposed to BEGIN RSA PRIVATE KEY, which always specifies an RSA key and therefore doesn't include a key type OID. BEGIN RSA PRIVATE KEY is PKCS#1:

RSA Private Key file (PKCS#1)

The RSA private key PEM file is specific for RSA keys.

It starts and ends with the tags:

-----BEGIN RSA PRIVATE KEY-----
BASE64 ENCODED DATA
-----END RSA PRIVATE KEY-----

Within the base64 encoded data the following DER structure is present:

RSAPrivateKey ::= SEQUENCE {
  version           Version,
  modulus           INTEGER,  -- n
  publicExponent    INTEGER,  -- e
  privateExponent   INTEGER,  -- d
  prime1            INTEGER,  -- p
  prime2            INTEGER,  -- q
  exponent1         INTEGER,  -- d mod (p-1)
  exponent2         INTEGER,  -- d mod (q-1)
  coefficient INTEGER, -- (inverse of q) mod p
  otherPrimeInfos   OtherPrimeInfos OPTIONAL
}

Symfony - generate url with parameter in controller

How do I add my new User Control to the Toolbox or a new Winform?

Assuming I understand what you mean:

  1. If your UserControl is in a library you can add this to you Toolbox using

    Toolbox -> right click -> Choose Items -> Browse

    Select your assembly with the UserControl.

  2. If the UserControl is part of your project you only need to build the entire solution. After that, your UserControl should appear in the toolbox.

In general, it is not possible to add a Control from Solution Explorer, only from the Toolbox.

VB6 IDE cannot load MSCOMCTL.OCX after update KB 2687323

I do not find NoControlUpgrade=1 on my vbp project. Instead, I develop on both xp and windows7 x64. When I moved the project from window 7 to xp, the error occurred.

From what I find out, these are different:

Object={831FDD16-0C5C-11D2-A9FC-0000F8754DA1}#2.0#0; MSCOMCTL.OCX

Object={831FDD16-0C5C-11D2-A9FC-0000F8754DA1}#2.1#0; MSCOMCTL.OCX

I just changed the #2,1 back to #2.0 on the vbp file and it can run immediately. These kind of problems occurred before, so hope Microsoft explain and solve them accordingly. Thanks.

MySQL case sensitive query

To improve James' excellent answer:

It's better to put BINARY in front of the constant instead:

SELECT * FROM `table` WHERE `column` = BINARY 'value'

Putting BINARY in front of column will prevent the use of any index on that column.

How do I pass a value from a child back to the parent form?

For Picrofo EDY

It depends, if you use the ShowDialog() as a way of showing your form and to close it you use the close button instead of this.Close(). The form will not be disposed or destroyed, it will only be hidden and changes can be made after is gone. In order to properly close it you will need the Dispose() or Close() method. In the other hand, if you use the Show() method and you close it, the form will be disposed and can not be modified after.

Add a new item to a dictionary in Python

It can be as simple as:

default_data['item3'] = 3

As Chris' answer says, you can use update to add more than one item. An example:

default_data.update({'item4': 4, 'item5': 5})

Please see the documentation about dictionaries as data structures and dictionaries as built-in types.

What is the difference between HTML tags <div> and <span>?

<div> is a block-level element and <span> is an inline element.

If you wanted to do something with some inline text, <span> is the way to go since it will not introduce line breaks that a <div> would.

As noted by others, there are some semantics implied with each of these, most significantly the fact that a <div> implies a logical division in the document, akin to maybe a section of a document or something, a la:

<div id="Chapter1">
   <p>Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, <span id="SomeSpecialText1">consectetuer adipiscing</span> elit. Duis congue vehicula purus.</p>
   <p>Nam <span id="SomeSpecialText2">eget magna nec</span> sapien fringilla euismod. Donec hendrerit.</p>
</div>

Bind a function to Twitter Bootstrap Modal Close

Starting Bootstrap 3 (edit: still the same in Bootstrap 4) there are 2 instances in which you can fire up events, being:

1. When modal "hide" event starts

$('#myModal').on('hide.bs.modal', function () {
    console.log('Fired at start of hide event!');
});

2. When modal "hide" event finished

$('#myModal').on('hidden.bs.modal', function () {
    console.log('Fired when hide event has finished!');
});

How to represent the double quotes character (") in regex?

Firstly, double quote character is nothing special in regex - it's just another character, so it doesn't need escaping from the perspective of regex.

However, because java uses double quotes to delimit String constants, if you want to create a string in java with a double quote in it, you must escape them.

This code will test if your String matches:

if (str.matches("\".*\"")) {
    // this string starts and end with a double quote
}

Note that you don't need to add start and end of input markers (^ and $) in the regex, because matches() requires that the whole input be matched to return true - ^ and $ are implied.

Using an array as needles in strpos

With the following code:

$flag = true;
foreach($find_letters as $letter)
    if(false===strpos($string, $letter)) {
        $flag = false;
        break;
    }

Then check the value of $flag. If it is true, all letters have been found. If not, it's false.

get number of columns of a particular row in given excel using Java

There are two Things you can do

use

int noOfColumns = sh.getRow(0).getPhysicalNumberOfCells();

or

int noOfColumns = sh.getRow(0).getLastCellNum();

There is a fine difference between them

  1. Option 1 gives the no of columns which are actually filled with contents(If the 2nd column of 10 columns is not filled you will get 9)
  2. Option 2 just gives you the index of last column. Hence done 'getLastCellNum()'

SecurityError: Blocked a frame with origin from accessing a cross-origin frame

Same-origin policy

You can't access an <iframe> with different origin using JavaScript, it would be a huge security flaw if you could do it. For the same-origin policy browsers block scripts trying to access a frame with a different origin.

Origin is considered different if at least one of the following parts of the address isn't maintained:

protocol://hostname:port/...

Protocol, hostname and port must be the same of your domain if you want to access a frame.

NOTE: Internet Explorer is known to not strictly follow this rule, see here for details.

Examples

Here's what would happen trying to access the following URLs from http://www.example.com/home/index.html

URL                                             RESULT
http://www.example.com/home/other.html       -> Success
http://www.example.com/dir/inner/another.php -> Success
http://www.example.com:80 -> Success (default port for HTTP)
http://www.example.com:2251                  -> Failure: different port
http://data.example.com/dir/other.html       -> Failure: different hostname
https://www.example.com/home/index.html:80   -> Failure: different protocol
ftp://www.example.com:21                     -> Failure: different protocol & port
https://google.com/search?q=james+bond -> Failure: different protocol, port & hostname

Workaround

Even though same-origin policy blocks scripts from accessing the content of sites with a different origin, if you own both the pages, you can work around this problem using window.postMessage and its relative message event to send messages between the two pages, like this:

  • In your main page:

    const frame = document.getElementById('your-frame-id');
    frame.contentWindow.postMessage(/*any variable or object here*/, 'http://your-second-site.com');

    The second argument to postMessage() can be '*' to indicate no preference about the origin of the destination. A target origin should always be provided when possible, to avoid disclosing the data you send to any other site.

  • In your <iframe> (contained in the main page):

    window.addEventListener('message', event => {
        // IMPORTANT: check the origin of the data!
        if (event.origin.startsWith('http://your-first-site.com')) {
            // The data was sent from your site.
            // Data sent with postMessage is stored in event.data:
            console.log(event.data);
        } else {
            // The data was NOT sent from your site!
            // Be careful! Do not use it. This else branch is
            // here just for clarity, you usually shouldn't need it.
            return;
        }
    });

This method can be applied in both directions, creating a listener in the main page too, and receiving responses from the frame. The same logic can also be implemented in pop-ups and basically any new window generated by the main page (e.g. using window.open()) as well, without any difference.

Disabling same-origin policy in your browser

There already are some good answers about this topic (I just found them googling), so, for the browsers where this is possible, I'll link the relative answer. However, please remember that disabling the same-origin policy will only affect your browser. Also, running a browser with same-origin security settings disabled grants any website access to cross-origin resources, so it's very unsafe and should NEVER be done if you do not know exactly what you are doing (e.g. development purposes).

grant remote access of MySQL database from any IP address

To be able to connect with your user from any IP address, do the following:

Allow mysql server to accept remote connections. For this open mysqld.conf file:

sudo gedit /etc/mysql/mysql.conf.d/mysqld.cnf

Search for the line starting with "bind-address" and set it's value to 0.0.0.0

bind-address                    = 0.0.0.0

and finally save the file.

Note: If you’re running MySQL 8+, the bind-address directive will not be in the mysqld.cnf file by default. In this case, add the directive to the bottom of the file /etc/mysql/mysql.conf.d/mysqld.cnf.

Now restart the mysql server, either with systemd or use the older service command. This depends on your operating system:

sudo systemctl restart mysql # for ubuntu
sudo systemctl restart mysqld.service # for debian

Finally, mysql server is now able to accept remote connections.

Now we need to create a user and grant it permission, so we can be able to login with this user remotely.

Connect to MySQL database as root, or any other user with root privilege.

mysql -u root -p

now create desired user in both localhost and '%' wildcard and grant permissions on all DB's as such .

CREATE USER 'myuser'@'localhost' IDENTIFIED BY 'mypass';
CREATE USER 'myuser'@'%' IDENTIFIED BY 'mypass';

Then,

GRANT ALL ON *.* TO 'myuser'@'localhost';
GRANT ALL ON *.* TO 'myuser'@'%';

And finally don't forget to flush privileges

FLUSH PRIVILEGES;

Note: If you’ve configured a firewall on your database server, you will also need to open port 3306 MySQL’s default port to allow traffic to MySQL.

Hope this helps ;)

How to call a method daily, at specific time, in C#?

It may just be me but it seemed like most of these answers were not complete or would not work correctly. I made something very quick and dirty. That being said not sure how good of an idea it is to do it this way, but it works perfectly every time.

while (true)
{
    if(DateTime.Now.ToString("HH:mm") == "22:00")
    {
        //do something here
        //ExecuteFunctionTask();
        //Make sure it doesn't execute twice by pausing 61 seconds. So that the time is past 2200 to 2201
        Thread.Sleep(61000);
    }

    Thread.Sleep(10000);

How to create a secure random AES key in Java?

I would use your suggested code, but with a slight simplification:

KeyGenerator keyGen = KeyGenerator.getInstance("AES");
keyGen.init(256); // for example
SecretKey secretKey = keyGen.generateKey();

Let the provider select how it plans to obtain randomness - don't define something that may not be as good as what the provider has already selected.

This code example assumes (as Maarten points out below) that you've configured your java.security file to include your preferred provider at the top of the list. If you want to manually specify the provider, just call KeyGenerator.getInstance("AES", "providerName");.

For a truly secure key, you need to be using a hardware security module (HSM) to generate and protect the key. HSM manufacturers will typically supply a JCE provider that will do all the key generation for you, using the code above.

Executing multiple SQL queries in one statement with PHP

You can just add the word JOIN or add a ; after each line(as @pictchubbate said). Better this way because of readability and also you should not meddle DELETE with INSERT; it is easy to go south.

The last question is a matter of debate, but as far as I know yes you should close after a set of queries. This applies mostly to old plain mysql/php and not PDO, mysqli. Things get more complicated(and heated in debates) in these cases.

Finally, I would suggest either using PDO or some other method.

Is there a way to specify a max height or width for an image?

You could use some CSS and with the idea of kbrimington it should do the trick.

The CSS could be like this.

img {
  width:  75px;
  height: auto;
}

What is String pool in Java?

Let's start with a quote from the virtual machine spec:

Loading of a class or interface that contains a String literal may create a new String object (§2.4.8) to represent that literal. This may not occur if the a String object has already been created to represent a previous occurrence of that literal, or if the String.intern method has been invoked on a String object representing the same string as the literal.

This may not occur - This is a hint, that there's something special about String objects. Usually, invoking a constructor will always create a new instance of the class. This is not the case with Strings, especially when String objects are 'created' with literals. Those Strings are stored in a global store (pool) - or at least the references are kept in a pool, and whenever a new instance of an already known Strings is needed, the vm returns a reference to the object from the pool. In pseudo code, it may go like that:

1: a := "one"
   --> if(pool[hash("one")] == null)  // true
           pool[hash("one") --> "one"]
       return pool[hash("one")]

2: b := "one"
  --> if(pool[hash("one")] == null) // false, "one" already in pool
        pool[hash("one") --> "one"]
      return pool[hash("one")]

So in this case, variables a and b hold references to the same object. IN this case, we have (a == b) && (a.equals(b)) == true.

This is not the case if we use the constructor:

1: a := "one"
2: b := new String("one")

Again, "one" is created on the pool but then we create a new instance from the same literal, and in this case, it leads to (a == b) && (a.equals(b)) == false

So why do we have a String pool? Strings and especially String literals are widely used in typical Java code. And they are immutable. And being immutable allowed to cache String to save memory and increase performance (less effort for creation, less garbage to be collected).

As programmers we don't have to care much about the String pool, as long as we keep in mind:

  • (a == b) && (a.equals(b)) may be true or false (always use equals to compare Strings)
  • Don't use reflection to change the backing char[] of a String (as you don't know who is actualling using that String)

Retrieving parameters from a URL

There is a new library called furl. I find this library to be most pythonic for doing url algebra. To install:

pip install furl

Code:

from furl import furl
f = furl("/abc?def='ghi'")
print f.args['def']

psql: server closed the connection unexepectedly

In my case I was making an connection through pgAdmin with ssh tunneling and set to host field ip address but it was necessary to set localhost

MySQL Multiple Left Joins

To display the all details for each news post title ie. "news.id" which is the primary key, you need to use GROUP BY clause for "news.id"

SELECT news.id, users.username, news.title, news.date,
       news.body, COUNT(comments.id)
FROM news
LEFT JOIN users
ON news.user_id = users.id
LEFT JOIN comments
ON comments.news_id = news.id
GROUP BY news.id

Setting the default ssh key location

man ssh gives me this options would could be useful.

-i identity_file Selects a file from which the identity (private key) for RSA or DSA authentication is read. The default is ~/.ssh/identity for protocol version 1, and ~/.ssh/id_rsa and ~/.ssh/id_dsa for pro- tocol version 2. Identity files may also be specified on a per- host basis in the configuration file. It is possible to have multiple -i options (and multiple identities specified in config- uration files).

So you could create an alias in your bash config with something like

alias ssh="ssh -i /path/to/private_key"

I haven't looked into a ssh configuration file, but like the -i option this too could be aliased

-F configfile Specifies an alternative per-user configuration file. If a configuration file is given on the command line, the system-wide configuration file (/etc/ssh/ssh_config) will be ignored. The default for the per-user configuration file is ~/.ssh/config.

What REST PUT/POST/DELETE calls should return by a convention?

Forgive the flippancy, but if you are doing REST over HTTP then RFC7231 describes exactly what behaviour is expected from GET, PUT, POST and DELETE.

Update (Jul 3 '14):
The HTTP spec intentionally does not define what is returned from POST or DELETE. The spec only defines what needs to be defined. The rest is left up to the implementer to choose.

How do I use Assert.Throws to assert the type of the exception?

A solution that actually works:

public void Test() {
    throw new MyCustomException("You can't do that!");
}

[TestMethod]
public void ThisWillPassIfExceptionThrown()
{
    var exception = Assert.ThrowsException<MyCustomException>(
        () => Test(),
        "This should have thrown!");
    Assert.AreEqual("You can't do that!", exception.Message);
}

This works with using Microsoft.VisualStudio.TestTools.UnitTesting;.

Configure Log4net to write to multiple files

Use below XML configuration to configure logs into two or more files:

<log4net>
    <appender name="RollingLogFileAppender" type="log4net.Appender.RollingFileAppender">
      <file value="logs\log.txt" />
      <appendToFile value="true" />
      <rollingStyle value="Size" />
      <maxSizeRollBackups value="10" />
      <maximumFileSize value="10MB" />
      <staticLogFileName value="true" />
      <layout type="log4net.Layout.PatternLayout">
        <conversionPattern value="%date [%thread] %level %logger - %message%newline" />
      </layout>
    </appender>
     <appender name="RollingLogFileAppender2" type="log4net.Appender.RollingFileAppender">
      <file value="logs\log1.txt" />
      <appendToFile value="true" />
      <rollingStyle value="Size" />
      <maxSizeRollBackups value="10" />
      <maximumFileSize value="10MB" />
      <staticLogFileName value="true" />
      <layout type="log4net.Layout.PatternLayout">
        <conversionPattern value="%date [%thread] %level %logger - %message%newline" />
      </layout>
    </appender>
    <root>
      <level value="All" />
      <appender-ref ref="RollingLogFileAppender" />
    </root>
     <logger additivity="false" name="RollingLogFileAppender2">
    <level value="All"/>
    <appender-ref ref="RollingLogFileAppender2" />
    </logger>
  </log4net>

Above XML configuration logs into two different files. To get specific instance of logger programmatically:

ILog logger = log4net.LogManager.GetLogger ("RollingLogFileAppender2");

You can append two or more appender elements inside log4net root element for logging into multiples files.

More info about above XML configuration structure or which appender is best for your application, read details from below links:

Error "Metadata file '...\Release\project.dll' could not be found in Visual Studio"

In my case, I had some errors in my code. Visual Studio showed the error you had instead of the actual errors, like syntax errors or unknown class names. Try cleaning the solution and building project after project. This way you will discover the actual errors.

Again, this is just what cause the error for me.

Tooltips with Twitter Bootstrap

I think your question boils down to what proper selector to use when setting up your tooltips, and the answer to that is almost whatever you want. If you want to use a class to trigger your tooltips you can do that, take the following for example:

<a href="#" class="link" data-original-title="first tooltip">Hover me for a tooltip</a>

Then you can trigger all links with the .link class attached as tooltips like so:

$('.link').tooltip()

Now, to answer your question as to why the bootstrap developers did not use a class to trigger tooltips that is because it is not needed exactly, you can pretty much use any selectors you want to target your tooltips, such as (my personal favorite) the rel attribute. With this attribute you can target all links or elements with the rel property set to tooltip, like so:

$('[rel=tooltip]').tooltip()

And your links would look like something like this:

<a href="#" rel="tooltip" data-original-title="first tooltip">Hover me for a tooltip</a>

Of course, you can also use a container class or id to target your tooltips inside an specific container that you want to single out with an specific option or to separate from the rest of your content and you can use it like so:

$('#example').tooltip({
    selector: "a[rel=tooltip]"
})

This selector will target all of your tooltips with the rel attribute "within" your #example div, this way you can add special styles or options to that section alone. In short, you can pretty much use any valid selector to target your tooltips and there is no need to dirty your markup with an extra class to target them.

How to recursively list all the files in a directory in C#?

Some excellent answers but these answers did not solve my issue.

As soon as a folder permission issue arises: "Permission Denied" the code fails. This is what I used to get around the "Permission Denied" issue:

private int counter = 0;

    private string[] MyDirectories = Directory.GetDirectories("C:\\");

    private void ScanButton_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
    {
        Thread MonitorSpeech = new Thread(() => ScanFiles());
        MonitorSpeech.Start();
    }

    private void ScanFiles()
    {
        string CurrentDirectory = string.Empty;

        while (counter < MyDirectories.Length)
        {
            try
            {
                GetDirectories();
                CurrentDirectory = MyDirectories[counter++];
            }
            catch
            {
                if (!this.IsDisposed)
                {
                    listBox1.Invoke((MethodInvoker)delegate { listBox1.Items.Add("Access Denied to : " + CurrentDirectory); });
                }
            }
        }
    }

    private void GetDirectories()
    {
        foreach (string directory in MyDirectories)
        {
            GetFiles(directory);
        }
    }

    private void GetFiles(string directory)
    {
        try
        {
            foreach (string file in Directory.GetFiles(directory, "*"))
            {
                listBox1.Invoke((MethodInvoker)delegate { listBox1.Items.Add(file); });
            }
        }
        catch
        {
            listBox1.Invoke((MethodInvoker)delegate { listBox1.Items.Add("Access Denied to : " + directory); });
        }
    }

Hope this helps others.

Why do we need middleware for async flow in Redux?

What is wrong with this approach? Why would I want to use Redux Thunk or Redux Promise, as the documentation suggests?

There is nothing wrong with this approach. It’s just inconvenient in a large application because you’ll have different components performing the same actions, you might want to debounce some actions, or keep some local state like auto-incrementing IDs close to action creators, etc. So it is just easier from the maintenance point of view to extract action creators into separate functions.

You can read my answer to “How to dispatch a Redux action with a timeout” for a more detailed walkthrough.

Middleware like Redux Thunk or Redux Promise just gives you “syntax sugar” for dispatching thunks or promises, but you don’t have to use it.

So, without any middleware, your action creator might look like

// action creator
function loadData(dispatch, userId) { // needs to dispatch, so it is first argument
  return fetch(`http://data.com/${userId}`)
    .then(res => res.json())
    .then(
      data => dispatch({ type: 'LOAD_DATA_SUCCESS', data }),
      err => dispatch({ type: 'LOAD_DATA_FAILURE', err })
    );
}

// component
componentWillMount() {
  loadData(this.props.dispatch, this.props.userId); // don't forget to pass dispatch
}

But with Thunk Middleware you can write it like this:

// action creator
function loadData(userId) {
  return dispatch => fetch(`http://data.com/${userId}`) // Redux Thunk handles these
    .then(res => res.json())
    .then(
      data => dispatch({ type: 'LOAD_DATA_SUCCESS', data }),
      err => dispatch({ type: 'LOAD_DATA_FAILURE', err })
    );
}

// component
componentWillMount() {
  this.props.dispatch(loadData(this.props.userId)); // dispatch like you usually do
}

So there is no huge difference. One thing I like about the latter approach is that the component doesn’t care that the action creator is async. It just calls dispatch normally, it can also use mapDispatchToProps to bind such action creator with a short syntax, etc. The components don’t know how action creators are implemented, and you can switch between different async approaches (Redux Thunk, Redux Promise, Redux Saga) without changing the components. On the other hand, with the former, explicit approach, your components know exactly that a specific call is async, and needs dispatch to be passed by some convention (for example, as a sync parameter).

Also think about how this code will change. Say we want to have a second data loading function, and to combine them in a single action creator.

With the first approach we need to be mindful of what kind of action creator we are calling:

// action creators
function loadSomeData(dispatch, userId) {
  return fetch(`http://data.com/${userId}`)
    .then(res => res.json())
    .then(
      data => dispatch({ type: 'LOAD_SOME_DATA_SUCCESS', data }),
      err => dispatch({ type: 'LOAD_SOME_DATA_FAILURE', err })
    );
}
function loadOtherData(dispatch, userId) {
  return fetch(`http://data.com/${userId}`)
    .then(res => res.json())
    .then(
      data => dispatch({ type: 'LOAD_OTHER_DATA_SUCCESS', data }),
      err => dispatch({ type: 'LOAD_OTHER_DATA_FAILURE', err })
    );
}
function loadAllData(dispatch, userId) {
  return Promise.all(
    loadSomeData(dispatch, userId), // pass dispatch first: it's async
    loadOtherData(dispatch, userId) // pass dispatch first: it's async
  );
}

// component
componentWillMount() {
  loadAllData(this.props.dispatch, this.props.userId); // pass dispatch first
}

With Redux Thunk action creators can dispatch the result of other action creators and not even think whether those are synchronous or asynchronous:

// action creators
function loadSomeData(userId) {
  return dispatch => fetch(`http://data.com/${userId}`)
    .then(res => res.json())
    .then(
      data => dispatch({ type: 'LOAD_SOME_DATA_SUCCESS', data }),
      err => dispatch({ type: 'LOAD_SOME_DATA_FAILURE', err })
    );
}
function loadOtherData(userId) {
  return dispatch => fetch(`http://data.com/${userId}`)
    .then(res => res.json())
    .then(
      data => dispatch({ type: 'LOAD_OTHER_DATA_SUCCESS', data }),
      err => dispatch({ type: 'LOAD_OTHER_DATA_FAILURE', err })
    );
}
function loadAllData(userId) {
  return dispatch => Promise.all(
    dispatch(loadSomeData(userId)), // just dispatch normally!
    dispatch(loadOtherData(userId)) // just dispatch normally!
  );
}

// component
componentWillMount() {
  this.props.dispatch(loadAllData(this.props.userId)); // just dispatch normally!
}

With this approach, if you later want your action creators to look into current Redux state, you can just use the second getState argument passed to the thunks without modifying the calling code at all:

function loadSomeData(userId) {
  // Thanks to Redux Thunk I can use getState() here without changing callers
  return (dispatch, getState) => {
    if (getState().data[userId].isLoaded) {
      return Promise.resolve();
    }

    fetch(`http://data.com/${userId}`)
      .then(res => res.json())
      .then(
        data => dispatch({ type: 'LOAD_SOME_DATA_SUCCESS', data }),
        err => dispatch({ type: 'LOAD_SOME_DATA_FAILURE', err })
      );
  }
}

If you need to change it to be synchronous, you can also do this without changing any calling code:

// I can change it to be a regular action creator without touching callers
function loadSomeData(userId) {
  return {
    type: 'LOAD_SOME_DATA_SUCCESS',
    data: localStorage.getItem('my-data')
  }
}

So the benefit of using middleware like Redux Thunk or Redux Promise is that components aren’t aware of how action creators are implemented, and whether they care about Redux state, whether they are synchronous or asynchronous, and whether or not they call other action creators. The downside is a little bit of indirection, but we believe it’s worth it in real applications.

Finally, Redux Thunk and friends is just one possible approach to asynchronous requests in Redux apps. Another interesting approach is Redux Saga which lets you define long-running daemons (“sagas”) that take actions as they come, and transform or perform requests before outputting actions. This moves the logic from action creators into sagas. You might want to check it out, and later pick what suits you the most.

I searched the Redux repo for clues, and found that Action Creators were required to be pure functions in the past.

This is incorrect. The docs said this, but the docs were wrong.
Action creators were never required to be pure functions.
We fixed the docs to reflect that.

How do you do exponentiation in C?

The non-recursive version of the function is not too hard - here it is for integers:

long powi(long x, unsigned n)
{
    long p = x;
    long r = 1;

    while (n > 0)
    {
        if (n % 2 == 1)
            r *= p;
        p *= p;
        n /= 2;
    }

    return(r);
}

(Hacked out of code for raising a double value to an integer power - had to remove the code to deal with reciprocals, for example.)

Child inside parent with min-height: 100% not inheriting height

This was added in a comment by @jackocnr but I missed it. For modern browsers I think this is the best approach.

It makes the inner element fill the whole container if it's too small, but expands the container's height if it's too big.

#containment {
  min-height: 100%;
  display: flex;
  flex-direction: column;
}

Explode string by one or more spaces or tabs

The answers provided by other folks (Ben James) are quite good and I have used them. As user889030 points out, the last array element may be empty. Actually, the first and last array elements can be empty. The code below addresses both issues.

# Split an input string into an array of substrings using any set
# whitespace characters
function explode_whitespace($str) {
  # Split the input string into an array
  $parts = preg_split('/\s+/', $str);
  # Get the size of the array of substrings
  $sizeParts = sizeof($parts);
  # Check if the last element of the array is a zero-length string
  if ($sizeParts > 0) {
    $lastPart = $parts[$sizeParts-1];
    if ($lastPart == '') {
      array_pop($parts);
      $sizeParts--;
    }
    # Check if the first element of the array is a zero-length string
    if ($sizeParts > 0) {
      $firstPart = $parts[0];
      if ($firstPart == '')
        array_shift($parts);

  }
  return $parts;

What does `set -x` do?

set -x enables a mode of the shell where all executed commands are printed to the terminal. In your case it's clearly used for debugging, which is a typical use case for set -x: printing every command as it is executed may help you to visualize the control flow of the script if it is not functioning as expected.

set +x disables it.

What are Makefile.am and Makefile.in?

reference :

Makefile.am -- a user input file to automake

configure.in -- a user input file to autoconf

autoconf generates configure from configure.in

automake gererates Makefile.in from Makefile.am

configure generates Makefile from Makefile.in

For ex:

$]
configure.in Makefile.in
$] sudo autoconf
configure configure.in Makefile.in ...
$] sudo ./configure
Makefile Makefile.in

How to check whether Kafka Server is running?

The good option is to use AdminClient as below before starting to produce or consume the messages

private static final int ADMIN_CLIENT_TIMEOUT_MS = 5000;
 try (AdminClient client = AdminClient.create(properties)) {
            client.listTopics(new ListTopicsOptions().timeoutMs(ADMIN_CLIENT_TIMEOUT_MS)).listings().get();
        } catch (ExecutionException ex) {
            LOG.error("Kafka is not available, timed out after {} ms", ADMIN_CLIENT_TIMEOUT_MS);
            return;

Apache is downloading php files instead of displaying them

I had similar symptoms, yet another solution: in /etc/apache2/mods-enabled/php5.conf there was a helpful advice in the comment, which I followed:

# To re-enable php in user directories comment the following lines
# (from <IfModule ...> to </IfModule>.) Do NOT set it to On as it
# prevents .htaccess files from disabling it.

How to change the author and committer name and e-mail of multiple commits in Git?

I found the presented versions way to aggressive, especially if you commit patches from other developers, this will essentially steal their code.

The version below does work on all branches and changes the author and comitter separately to prevent that.

Kudos to leif81 for the all option.

#!/bin/bash

How to give a user only select permission on a database

You could add the user to the Database Level Role db_datareader.

Members of the db_datareader fixed database role can run a SELECT statement against any table or view in the database.

See Books Online for reference:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms189121%28SQL.90%29.aspx

You can add a database user to a database role using the following query:

EXEC sp_addrolemember N'db_datareader', N'userName'

When should I use Memcache instead of Memcached?

This is 2013. Forget about the 2009 comments. Likewise, if you are running serious traffic loads, do not even contemplate how to make-do with a windows based memcache. When dealing with a very large scale (500+ front end web servers) and 20+ back end database servers and replicants (mysql & mssql mix), a farm of memcached servers (12 servers in group) supports multiple high volume OLTP applications answering 25K ~ 40K mc->get calls per-second. These calls are those that do NOT have to reach a database.

IMHO, this use of memcached provided SERIOUS $$$,$$$savings on CAPEX for new DB servers & licences as well as on support contracts for large commercial designs.

How to find which version of TensorFlow is installed in my system?

Almost every normal package in python assigns the variable .__version__ to the current version. So if you want to find the version of some package you can do the following

import a
a.__version__

For tensorflow it will be

import tensorflow as tf
tf.version.VERSION

For old versions of tensorflow (below 0.10), use tf.__version__

How to convert LINQ query result to List?

What you can do is select everything into a new instance of Course, and afterwards convert them to a List.

var qry = from a in obj.tbCourses
                     select new Course() {
                         Course.Property = a.Property
                         ...
                     };

qry.toList<Course>();

CodeIgniter Active Record not equal

$this->db->where('emailsToCampaigns.campaignId !=' , $campaignId);

This should work (which you have tried)

To debug you might place this code just after you execute your query to see what exact SQL it is producing, this might give you clues, you might add that to the question to allow for further help.

$this->db->get();              // your query executing

echo '<pre>'; // to preserve formatting
die($this->db->last_query()); // halt execution and print last ran query.

jquery get all input from specific form

To iterate through all the inputs in a form you can do this:

$("form#formID :input").each(function(){
 var input = $(this); // This is the jquery object of the input, do what you will
});

This uses the jquery :input selector to get ALL types of inputs, if you just want text you can do :

$("form#formID input[type=text]")//...

etc.

SSL error SSL3_GET_SERVER_CERTIFICATE:certificate verify failed

The file that you downloaded (http://curl.haxx.se/ca/cacert.pem) is a bundle of the root certificates from the major trusted certificate authorities. You said that the remote host has a self-signed SSL certificate, so it didn't use a trusted certificate. The openssl.cafile setting needs to point to the CA certificate that was used to sign the SSL certificate on the remote host. PHP 5.6 has been improved over previous versions of PHP to now verify peer certificates and host names by default (http://php.net/manual/en/migration56.openssl.php)

You'll need to locate the CA certificate that was generated on the server that signed the SSL certificate and copy it to this server. The only other option is to disable verifying the peer, but that defeats the SSL security. If you DO want to try disabling verification, try this array with the code from my previous answer:

$contextOptions = array(
    'ssl' => array(
        'verify_peer' => false,
        'verify_peer_name' => false
    )
);

Either way, if you're using self-signed certificates, you'll need to add the CA cert that was used to sign the remote host's SSL certificate to the trusted store on the server you're connecting from OR use stream contexts to use that certificate for each individual request. Adding it to the trusted certificates is the simplest solution. Just add the contents of the remote host's CA cert to the end of the cacert.pem file you downloaded.

Previous:

fsockopen doesn't support stream contexts, so use stream_socket_client instead. It returns a resource that can be used with all the commands that fsockopen resources can.

This should be a drop in replacement for the snippet you have in your question:

<?php

$contextOptions = array(
    'ssl' => array(
        'verify_peer' => true, // You could skip all of the trouble by changing this to false, but it's WAY uncool for security reasons.
        'cafile' => '/etc/ssl/certs/cacert.pem',
        'CN_match' => 'example.com', // Change this to your certificates Common Name (or just comment this line out if not needed)
        'ciphers' => 'HIGH:!SSLv2:!SSLv3',
        'disable_compression' => true,
    )
);

$context = stream_context_create($contextOptions);

$fp = stream_socket_client("tcp://{$host}:{$port}", $errno, $errstr, 20, STREAM_CLIENT_CONNECT, $context);

if (!$fp) {

    echo "$errstr ({$errno})<br />\n";

}else{

    $this->request = 'POST '.substr($this->url, strlen($this->host)).' HTTP/1.1'.$crlf
        .'Host: '.$this->host.$crlf
        .'Content-Length: '.$content_length.$crlf
        .'Connection: Close'.$crlf.$crlf
        .$body;

    fwrite($fp, $this->request);

    while (!feof($fp)) {
        $this->response .= fgets($fp);
    }

    fclose($fp);

}

Draw path between two points using Google Maps Android API v2

Dont know whether I should put this as answer or not...

I used @Zeeshan0026's solution to draw the path...and the problem was that if I draw path once, and then I do try to draw path once again, both two paths show and this continues...paths showing even when markers were deleted... while, ideally, old paths' shouldn't be there once new path is drawn / markers are deleted..

going through some other question over SO, I had the following solution

I add the following function in Zeeshan's class

 public void clearRoute(){

         for(Polyline line1 : polylines)
         {
             line1.remove();
         }

         polylines.clear();

     }

in my map activity, before drawing the path, I called this function.. example usage as per my app is

private Route rt;

rt.clearRoute();

            if (src == null) {
                Toast.makeText(getApplicationContext(), "Please select your Source", Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show();
            }else if (Destination == null) {
                Toast.makeText(getApplicationContext(), "Please select your Destination", Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show();
            }else if (src.equals(Destination)) {
                Toast.makeText(getApplicationContext(), "Source and Destinatin can not be the same..", Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show();
            }else{

                rt.drawRoute(mMap, MapsMainActivity.this, src,
                        Destination, false, "en");
            }

you can use rt.clearRoute(); as per your requirements.. Hoping that it will save a few minutes of someone else and will help some beginner in solving this issue..

Complete Class Code

see on github

Edit: here is part of code from mainactivity..

case R.id.mkrbtn_set_dest:
                    Destination = selmarker.getPosition();
                    destmarker = selmarker;
                    desShape = createRouteCircle(Destination, false);

                    if (src == null) {
                        Toast.makeText(getApplicationContext(),
                                "Please select your Source first...",
                                Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show();
                    } else if (src.equals(Destination)) {
                        Toast.makeText(getApplicationContext(),
                                "Source and Destinatin can not be the same..",
                                Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show();
                    } else {

                        if (isNetworkAvailable()) {
                            rt.drawRoute(mMap, MapsMainActivity.this, src,
                                    Destination, false, "en");
                            src = null;
                            Destination = null;

                        } else {
                            Toast.makeText(
                                    getApplicationContext(),
                                    "Internet Connection seems to be OFFLINE...!",
                                    Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show();

                        }

                    }

                    break;

Edit 2 as per comments

usage :

//variables as data members
GoogleMap mMap;
private Route rt;
static LatLng src;
static LatLng Destination;
//MapsMainActivity is my activity
//false for interim stops for traffic, google
// en language for html description returned

rt.drawRoute(mMap, MapsMainActivity.this, src,
                            Destination, false, "en");

How to open adb and use it to send commands

The short answer is adb is used via command line. find adb.exe on your machine, add it to the path and use it from cmd on windows.

"adb devices" will give you a list of devices adb can talk to. your emulation platform should be on the list. just type adb to get a list of commands and what they do.

Find all storage devices attached to a Linux machine

Modern linux systems will normally only have entries in /dev for devices that exist, so going through hda* and sda* as you suggest would work fairly well.

Otherwise, there may be something in /proc you can use. From a quick look in there, I'd have said /proc/partitions looks like it could do what you need.

From an array of objects, extract value of a property as array

Function map is a good choice when dealing with object arrays. Although there have been a number of good answers posted already, the example of using map with combination with filter might be helpful.

In case you want to exclude the properties which values are undefined or exclude just a specific property, you could do the following:

    var obj = {value1: "val1", value2: "val2", Ndb_No: "testing", myVal: undefined};
    var keysFiltered = Object.keys(obj).filter(function(item){return !(item == "Ndb_No" || obj[item] == undefined)});
    var valuesFiltered = keysFiltered.map(function(item) {return obj[item]});

Simple conversion between java.util.Date and XMLGregorianCalendar

Why not use an external binding file to tell XJC to generate java.util.Date fields instead of XMLGregorianCalendar?

Also see How do I map xs:date to java.util.Date? Blog

Call Activity method from adapter

Yes you can.

In the adapter Add a new Field :

private Context mContext;

In the adapter Constructor add the following code :

public AdapterName(......, Context context) {
  //your code.
  this.mContext = context;
}

In the getView(...) of Adapter:

Button btn = (Button) convertView.findViewById(yourButtonId);
btn.setOnClickListener(new Button.OnClickListener() {
  @Override
  public void onClick(View v) {
    if (mContext instanceof YourActivityName) {
      ((YourActivityName)mContext).yourDesiredMethod();
    }
  }
});

replace with your own class names where you see your code, your activity etc.

If you need to use this same adapter for more than one activity then :

Create an Interface

public interface IMethodCaller {
    void yourDesiredMethod();
}

Implement this interface in activities you require to have this method calling functionality.

Then in Adapter getView(), call like:

Button btn = (Button) convertView.findViewById(yourButtonId);
btn.setOnClickListener(new Button.OnClickListener() {
    @Override
    public void onClick(View v) {
        if (mContext instanceof IMethodCaller) {
            ((IMethodCaller) mContext).yourDesiredMethod();
        }
    }
});

You are done. If you need to use this adapter for activities which does not require this calling mechanism, the code will not execute (If check fails).

React ignores 'for' attribute of the label element

The for attribute is called htmlFor for consistency with the DOM property API. If you're using the development build of React, you should have seen a warning in your console about this.

Adding a new entry to the PATH variable in ZSH

OPTION 1: Add this line to ~/.zshrc:

export "PATH=$HOME/pear/bin:$PATH"

After that you need to run source ~/.zshrc in order your changes to take affect OR close this window and open a new one

OPTION 2: execute it inside the terminal console to add this path only to the current terminal window session. When you close the window/session, it will be lost.

Adding ASP.NET MVC5 Identity Authentication to an existing project

Configuring Identity to your existing project is not hard thing. You must install some NuGet package and do some small configuration.

First install these NuGet packages with Package Manager Console:

PM> Install-Package Microsoft.AspNet.Identity.Owin
PM> Install-Package Microsoft.AspNet.Identity.EntityFramework
PM> Install-Package Microsoft.Owin.Host.SystemWeb

Add a user class and with IdentityUser inheritance:

public class AppUser : IdentityUser
{
    //add your custom properties which have not included in IdentityUser before
    public string MyExtraProperty { get; set; }
}

Do same thing for role:

public class AppRole : IdentityRole
{
    public AppRole() : base() { }
    public AppRole(string name) : base(name) { }
    // extra properties here
}

Change your DbContext parent from DbContext to IdentityDbContext<AppUser> like this:

public class MyDbContext : IdentityDbContext<AppUser>
{
    // Other part of codes still same
    // You don't need to add AppUser and AppRole
    // since automatically added by inheriting form IdentityDbContext<AppUser>
}

If you use the same connection string and enabled migration, EF will create necessary tables for you.

Optionally, you could extend UserManager to add your desired configuration and customization:

public class AppUserManager : UserManager<AppUser>
{
    public AppUserManager(IUserStore<AppUser> store)
        : base(store)
    {
    }

    // this method is called by Owin therefore this is the best place to configure your User Manager
    public static AppUserManager Create(
        IdentityFactoryOptions<AppUserManager> options, IOwinContext context)
    {
        var manager = new AppUserManager(
            new UserStore<AppUser>(context.Get<MyDbContext>()));

        // optionally configure your manager
        // ...

        return manager;
    }
}

Since Identity is based on OWIN you need to configure OWIN too:

Add a class to App_Start folder (or anywhere else if you want). This class is used by OWIN. This will be your startup class.

namespace MyAppNamespace
{
    public class IdentityConfig
    {
        public void Configuration(IAppBuilder app)
        {
            app.CreatePerOwinContext(() => new MyDbContext());
            app.CreatePerOwinContext<AppUserManager>(AppUserManager.Create);
            app.CreatePerOwinContext<RoleManager<AppRole>>((options, context) =>
                new RoleManager<AppRole>(
                    new RoleStore<AppRole>(context.Get<MyDbContext>())));

            app.UseCookieAuthentication(new CookieAuthenticationOptions
            {
                AuthenticationType = DefaultAuthenticationTypes.ApplicationCookie,
                LoginPath = new PathString("/Home/Login"),
            });
        }
    }
}

Almost done just add this line of code to your web.config file so OWIN could find your startup class.

<appSettings>
    <!-- other setting here -->
    <add key="owin:AppStartup" value="MyAppNamespace.IdentityConfig" />
</appSettings>

Now in entire project you could use Identity just like any new project had already installed by VS. Consider login action for example

[HttpPost]
public ActionResult Login(LoginViewModel login)
{
    if (ModelState.IsValid)
    {
        var userManager = HttpContext.GetOwinContext().GetUserManager<AppUserManager>();
        var authManager = HttpContext.GetOwinContext().Authentication;

        AppUser user = userManager.Find(login.UserName, login.Password);
        if (user != null)
        {
            var ident = userManager.CreateIdentity(user,
                DefaultAuthenticationTypes.ApplicationCookie);
            //use the instance that has been created.
            authManager.SignIn(
                new AuthenticationProperties { IsPersistent = false }, ident);
            return Redirect(login.ReturnUrl ?? Url.Action("Index", "Home"));
        }
    }
    ModelState.AddModelError("", "Invalid username or password");
    return View(login);
}

You could make roles and add to your users:

public ActionResult CreateRole(string roleName)
{
    var roleManager=HttpContext.GetOwinContext().GetUserManager<RoleManager<AppRole>>();

    if (!roleManager.RoleExists(roleName))
        roleManager.Create(new AppRole(roleName));
    // rest of code
}

You could also add a role to a user, like this:

UserManager.AddToRole(UserManager.FindByName("username").Id, "roleName");

By using Authorize you could guard your actions or controllers:

[Authorize]
public ActionResult MySecretAction() {}

or

[Authorize(Roles = "Admin")]]
public ActionResult MySecretAction() {}

You can also install additional packages and configure them to meet your requirement like Microsoft.Owin.Security.Facebook or whichever you want.

Note: Don't forget to add relevant namespaces to your files:

using Microsoft.AspNet.Identity;
using Microsoft.Owin.Security;
using Microsoft.AspNet.Identity.Owin;
using Microsoft.AspNet.Identity.EntityFramework;
using Microsoft.Owin;
using Microsoft.Owin.Security.Cookies;
using Owin;

You could also see my other answers like this and this for advanced use of Identity.

AngularJS - $http.post send data as json

i think the most proper way is to use the same piece of code angular use when doing a "get" request using you $httpParamSerializer will have to inject it to your controller so you can simply do the following without having to use Jquery at all , $http.post(url,$httpParamSerializer({param:val}))

app.controller('ctrl',function($scope,$http,$httpParamSerializer){
  $http.post(url,$httpParamSerializer({param:val,secondParam:secondVal}));
}

Install Visual Studio 2013 on Windows 7

Visual Studio Express for Windows needs Windows 8.1. Having a look at the requirements page you might want to try the Web or Windows Desktop version which are able to run under Windows 7.

BadImageFormatException. This will occur when running in 64 bit mode with the 32 bit Oracle client components installed

I developed desktop application using C#.net with 2.0 framework along with system.data.oracleclient for connecting oracle db and I was facing similar error message ,"Attempt to load Oracle client libraries threw BadImageFormatException. This problem will occur when running in 64 bit mode with the 32 bit Oracle client components installed."

following solutions were applied

  • Project, properties, Build TAB, select platform target : x86
  • Project, clean build, ReBuild solution
  • Install Oracle 11G*32 bit client

now, it work because application is set for 32bit and oracle 32bit client installed over Win2012 R2 server, hopefully will work for you.

"X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=9; IE=8; IE=7; IE=EDGE"

In certain cases, it might be necessary to restrict the display of a webpage to a document mode supported by an earlier version of Internet Explorer. You can do this by serving the page with an x-ua-compatible header. For more info, see Specifying legacy document modes.

Where is Python's sys.path initialized from?

"Initialized from the environment variable PYTHONPATH, plus an installation-dependent default"

"std::endl" vs "\n"

The varying line-ending characters don't matter, assuming the file is open in text mode, which is what you get unless you ask for binary. The compiled program will write out the correct thing for the system compiled for.

The only difference is that std::endl flushes the output buffer, and '\n' doesn't. If you don't want the buffer flushed frequently, use '\n'. If you do (for example, if you want to get all the output, and the program is unstable), use std::endl.

ASP.NET MVC - Set custom IIdentity or IPrincipal

Based on LukeP's answer, and add some methods to setup timeout and requireSSL cooperated with Web.config.

Modified Codes of LukeP

1, Set timeout based on Web.Config. The FormsAuthentication.Timeout will get the timeout value, which is defined in web.config. I wrapped the followings to be a function, which return a ticket back.

int version = 1;
DateTime now = DateTime.Now;

// respect to the `timeout` in Web.config.
TimeSpan timeout = FormsAuthentication.Timeout;
DateTime expire = now.Add(timeout);
bool isPersist = false;

FormsAuthenticationTicket ticket = new FormsAuthenticationTicket(
     version,
     name,
     now,
     expire,
     isPersist,
     userData);

2, Configure the cookie to be secure or not, based on the RequireSSL configuration.

HttpCookie faCookie = new HttpCookie(FormsAuthentication.FormsCookieName, encTicket);
// respect to `RequreSSL` in `Web.Config`
bool bSSL = FormsAuthentication.RequireSSL;
faCookie.Secure = bSSL;

Extracting Path from OpenFileDialog path/filename

how about this:

string fileName = ofd.SafeFileName;
string path = fullPath.Replace(fileName, "");
