Programs & Examples On #Relocation

Relocation is the adaptation of a piece of code assembled on a certain address in memory to another address It is a typical task of dynamic linkers and program loaders, and thus last step in a standard development toolchain.

How to change Android version and code version number?

You can easily auto increase versionName and versionCode programmatically.

For Android add this to your gradle script and also create a file version.properties with VERSION_CODE=555

android {
        compileSdkVersion 30
        buildToolsVersion "30.0.3"

        def versionPropsFile = file('version.properties')
        if (versionPropsFile.canRead()) {
            def Properties versionProps = new Properties()

            versionProps.load(new FileInputStream(versionPropsFile))

            def code = versionProps['VERSION_CODE'].toInteger() + 1

            versionProps['VERSION_CODE'] = code.toString()
            versionProps.store(versionPropsFile.newWriter(), null)

            defaultConfig {
                applicationId "app.umanusorn.playground"
                minSdkVersion 29
                targetSdkVersion 30
                versionCode code
                versionName code.toString()

How do you copy the contents of an array to a std::vector in C++ without looping?

Assuming you know how big the item in the vector are:

uint8_t vs unsigned char

Just to be pedantic, some systems may not have an 8 bit type. According to Wikipedia:

An implementation is required to define exact-width integer types for N = 8, 16, 32, or 64 if and only if it has any type that meets the requirements. It is not required to define them for any other N, even if it supports the appropriate types.

So uint8_t isn't guaranteed to exist, though it will for all platforms where 8 bits = 1 byte. Some embedded platforms may be different, but that's getting very rare. Some systems may define char types to be 16 bits, in which case there probably won't be an 8-bit type of any kind.

Other than that (minor) issue, @Mark Ransom's answer is the best in my opinion. Use the one that most clearly shows what you're using the data for.

Also, I'm assuming you meant uint8_t (the standard typedef from C99 provided in the stdint.h header) rather than uint_8 (not part of any standard).

Is there any way to debug chrome in any IOS device

If you don't need full debugging support, you can now view JavaScript console logs directly within Chrome for iOS at chrome://inspect.

https://blog.chromium.org/2019/03/debugging-websites-in-chrome-for-ios.html

Chrome for iOS Console

Make copy of an array

You can try using System.arraycopy()

int[] src  = new int[]{1,2,3,4,5};
int[] dest = new int[5];

System.arraycopy( src, 0, dest, 0, src.length );

But, probably better to use clone() in most cases:

int[] src = ...
int[] dest = src.clone();

Differences between dependencyManagement and dependencies in Maven

The documentation on the Maven site is horrible. What dependencyManagement does is simply move your dependency definitions (version, exclusions, etc) up to the parent pom, then in the child poms you just have to put the groupId and artifactId. That's it (except for parent pom chaining and the like, but that's not really complicated either - dependencyManagement wins out over dependencies at the parent level - but if have a question about that or imports, the Maven documentation is a little better).

After reading all of the 'a', 'b', 'c' garbage on the Maven site and getting confused, I re-wrote their example. So if you had 2 projects (proj1 and proj2) which share a common dependency (betaShared) you could move that dependency up to the parent pom. While you are at it, you can also move up any other dependencies (alpha and charlie) but only if it makes sense for your project. So for the situation outlined in the prior sentences, here is the solution with dependencyManagement in the parent pom:

<!-- ParentProj pom -->
<project>
  <dependencyManagement>
    <dependencies>
      <dependency> <!-- not much benefit defining alpha here, as we only use in 1 child, so optional -->
        <groupId>alpha</groupId>
        <artifactId>alpha</artifactId>
        <version>1.0</version>
        <exclusions>
          <exclusion>
            <groupId>zebra</groupId>
            <artifactId>zebra</artifactId>
          </exclusion>
        </exclusions>
      </dependency>
      <dependency>
        <groupId>charlie</groupId> <!-- not much benefit defining charlie here, so optional -->
        <artifactId>charlie</artifactId>
        <version>1.0</version>
        <type>war</type>
        <scope>runtime</scope>
      </dependency>
      <dependency> <!-- defining betaShared here makes a lot of sense -->
        <groupId>betaShared</groupId>
        <artifactId>betaShared</artifactId>
        <version>1.0</version>
        <type>bar</type>
        <scope>runtime</scope>
      </dependency>
    </dependencies>
  </dependencyManagement>
</project>

<!-- Child Proj1 pom -->

Javascript communication between browser tabs/windows

I don't think you need cookies. Each document's js code can access the other document elements. So you can use them directly to share data. Your first window w1 opens w2 and save the reference

var w2 = window.open(...)

In w2 you can access w1 using the opener property of window.

Convert blob URL to normal URL

A URL that was created from a JavaScript Blob can not be converted to a "normal" URL.

A blob: URL does not refer to data the exists on the server, it refers to data that your browser currently has in memory, for the current page. It will not be available on other pages, it will not be available in other browsers, and it will not be available from other computers.

Therefore it does not make sense, in general, to convert a Blob URL to a "normal" URL. If you wanted an ordinary URL, you would have to send the data from the browser to a server and have the server make it available like an ordinary file.

It is possible convert a blob: URL into a data: URL, at least in Chrome. You can use an AJAX request to "fetch" the data from the blob: URL (even though it's really just pulling it out of your browser's memory, not making an HTTP request).

Here's an example:

_x000D_
_x000D_
var blob = new Blob(["Hello, world!"], { type: 'text/plain' });_x000D_
var blobUrl = URL.createObjectURL(blob);_x000D_
_x000D_
var xhr = new XMLHttpRequest;_x000D_
xhr.responseType = 'blob';_x000D_
_x000D_
xhr.onload = function() {_x000D_
   var recoveredBlob = xhr.response;_x000D_
_x000D_
   var reader = new FileReader;_x000D_
_x000D_
   reader.onload = function() {_x000D_
     var blobAsDataUrl = reader.result;_x000D_
     window.location = blobAsDataUrl;_x000D_
   };_x000D_
_x000D_
   reader.readAsDataURL(recoveredBlob);_x000D_
};_x000D_
_x000D_
xhr.open('GET', blobUrl);_x000D_
xhr.send();
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

data: URLs are probably not what you mean by "normal" and can be problematically large. However they do work like normal URLs in that they can be shared; they're not specific to the current browser or session.

How to read data of an Excel file using C#?

You can use Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel assembly to process excel files.

  1. Right click on your project and go to Add reference. Add the Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel assembly.
  2. Include using Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel; to make use of assembly.

Here is the sample code:

    using Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel;

    //create the Application object we can use in the member functions.
    Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Application _excelApp = new Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Application();
    _excelApp.Visible = true;

    string fileName = "C:\\sampleExcelFile.xlsx";

    //open the workbook
    Workbook workbook = _excelApp.Workbooks.Open(fileName,
        Type.Missing, Type.Missing, Type.Missing, Type.Missing,
        Type.Missing, Type.Missing, Type.Missing, Type.Missing,
        Type.Missing, Type.Missing, Type.Missing, Type.Missing,
        Type.Missing, Type.Missing);

    //select the first sheet
    Worksheet worksheet = (Worksheet)workbook.Worksheets[1];

    //find the used range in worksheet
    Range excelRange = worksheet.UsedRange;

    //get an object array of all of the cells in the worksheet (their values)
    object[,] valueArray = (object[,])excelRange.get_Value(
                XlRangeValueDataType.xlRangeValueDefault);

    //access the cells
    for (int row = 1;  row <= worksheet.UsedRange.Rows.Count; ++row)
    {
        for (int col = 1; col <= worksheet.UsedRange.Columns.Count; ++col)
        {
            //access each cell
            Debug.Print(valueArray[row, col].ToString());
        }
    }

    //clean up stuffs
    workbook.Close(false, Type.Missing, Type.Missing);
    Marshal.ReleaseComObject(workbook);

Why am I getting string does not name a type Error?

Your using declaration is in game.cpp, not game.h where you actually declare string variables. You intended to put using namespace std; into the header, above the lines that use string, which would let those lines find the string type defined in the std namespace.

As others have pointed out, this is not good practice in headers -- everyone who includes that header will also involuntarily hit the using line and import std into their namespace; the right solution is to change those lines to use std::string instead

"Cannot instantiate the type..."

You are trying to instantiate an interface, you need to give the concrete class that you want to use i.e. Queue<Edge> theQueue = new LinkedBlockingQueue<Edge>();.

Due some requests, here an explanation:

I rewrote this answer as things have become deprecated over time so I updated it.

I used this to focus on the window scope inside the results when document is ready and for the sake of brevity but it's not necessary.

Deprecated:
The .which and .keyCode methods are actually considered deprecated so I would recommend .code but I personally still use keyCode as the performance is much faster and only that counts for me. The jQuery classic version .keypress() is not officially deprecated as some people say but they are no more preferred like .on('keypress') as it has a lot more functionality(live state, multiple handlers, etc.). The 'keypress' event in the Vanilla version is also deprecated. People should prefer beforeinput or keydown today. (Note: It has nothing to do with jQuery's events, they are called the same but execute differently.)

All examples above are no biggies regarding deprecated or not. Consoles or any browser should be able to notify you with that if this happens. And if this ever does in future, just fix it.

Readablity:
Despite the ease making it too short and snippy isn't always good either. If you work in a team, your code must be readable and detailed. I recommend the jQuery version .on('keypress'), this is the way to go and understandable by most people.

Performance:
I always follow my phrase Performance over Effectiveness as anything can be more effective if there is the option but it just should function and execute only what I want, the faster the better. This is why I prefer .keyCode even if it's considered deprecated(in most cases). It's all up to you though.

Performance Test

Docker container not starting (docker start)

You are trying to run bash, an interactive shell that requires a tty in order to operate. It doesn't really make sense to run this in "detached" mode with -d, but you can do this by adding -it to the command line, which ensures that the container has a valid tty associated with it and that stdin remains connected:

docker run -it -d -p 52022:22 basickarl/docker-git-test

You would more commonly run some sort of long-lived non-interactive process (like sshd, or a web server, or a database server, or a process manager like systemd or supervisor) when starting detached containers.

If you are trying to run a service like sshd, you cannot simply run service ssh start. This will -- depending on the distribution you're running inside your container -- do one of two things:

  • It will try to contact a process manager like systemd or upstart to start the service. Because there is no service manager running, this will fail.

  • It will actually start sshd, but it will be started in the background. This means that (a) the service sshd start command exits, which means that (b) Docker considers your container to have failed, so it cleans everything up.

If you want to run just ssh in a container, consider an example like this.

If you want to run sshd and other processes inside the container, you will need to investigate some sort of process supervisor.

numpy matrix vector multiplication

Simplest solution

Use numpy.dot or a.dot(b). See the documentation here.

>>> a = np.array([[ 5, 1 ,3],
                  [ 1, 1 ,1],
                  [ 1, 2 ,1]])
>>> b = np.array([1, 2, 3])
>>> print a.dot(b)
array([16, 6, 8])

This occurs because numpy arrays are not matrices, and the standard operations *, +, -, / work element-wise on arrays. Instead, you could try using numpy.matrix, and * will be treated like matrix multiplication.

Other Solutions

Also know there are other options:

  • As noted below, if using python3.5+ the @ operator works as you'd expect:

    >>> print(a @ b)
    array([16, 6, 8])

  • If you want overkill, you can use numpy.einsum. The documentation will give you a flavor for how it works, but honestly, I didn't fully understand how to use it until reading this answer and just playing around with it on my own.

    >>> np.einsum('ji,i->j', a, b)
    array([16, 6, 8])

  • As of mid 2016 (numpy 1.10.1), you can try the experimental numpy.matmul, which works like numpy.dot with two major exceptions: no scalar multiplication but it works with stacks of matrices.

    >>> np.matmul(a, b)
    array([16, 6, 8])

  • numpy.inner functions the same way as numpy.dot for matrix-vector multiplication but behaves differently for matrix-matrix and tensor multiplication (see Wikipedia regarding the differences between the inner product and dot product in general or see this SO answer regarding numpy's implementations).

    >>> np.inner(a, b)
    array([16, 6, 8])

    # Beware using for matrix-matrix multiplication though!
    >>> b = a.T
    >>> np.dot(a, b)
    array([[35,  9, 10],
           [ 9,  3,  4],
           [10,  4,  6]])
    >>> np.inner(a, b)
    array([[29, 12, 19],
           [ 7,  4,  5],
           [ 8,  5,  6]])

Rarer options for edge cases

  • If you have tensors (arrays of dimension greater than or equal to one), you can use numpy.tensordot with the optional argument axes=1:

    >>> np.tensordot(a, b, axes=1)
    array([16,  6,  8])

  • Don't use numpy.vdot if you have a matrix of complex numbers, as the matrix will be flattened to a 1D array, then it will try to find the complex conjugate dot product between your flattened matrix and vector (which will fail due to a size mismatch n*m vs n).

Where to place JavaScript in an HTML file?

The best place for it is just before you need it and no sooner.

Also, depending on your users' physical location, using a service like Amazon's S3 service may help users download it from a server physically closer to them than your server.

Is your js script a commonly used lib like jQuery or prototype? If so, there are a number of companies, like Google and Yahoo, that have tools to provide these files for you on a distributed network.

How do I move an existing Git submodule within a Git repository?

In my case, I wanted to move a submodule from one directory into a subdirectory, e.g. "AFNetworking" -> "ext/AFNetworking". These are the steps I followed:

  1. Edit .gitmodules changing submodule name and path to be "ext/AFNetworking"
  2. Move submodule's git directory from ".git/modules/AFNetworking" to ".git/modules/ext/AFNetworking"
  3. Move library from "AFNetworking" to "ext/AFNetworking"
  4. Edit ".git/modules/ext/AFNetworking/config" and fix the [core] worktree line. Mine changed from ../../../AFNetworking to ../../../../ext/AFNetworking
  5. Edit "ext/AFNetworking/.git" and fix gitdir. Mine changed from ../.git/modules/AFNetworking to ../../git/modules/ext/AFNetworking
  6. git add .gitmodules
  7. git rm --cached AFNetworking
  8. git submodule add -f <url> ext/AFNetworking

Finally, I saw in the git status:

matt$ git status
# On branch ios-master
# Changes to be committed:
# (use "git reset HEAD <file>..." to unstage)
#
#   modified:   .gitmodules
#   renamed:    AFNetworking -> ext/AFNetworking

Et voila. The above example doesn't change the directory depth, which makes a big difference to the complexity of the task, and doesn't change the name of the submodule (which may not really be necessary, but I did it to be consistent with what would happen if I added a new module at that path.)

How to get the full path of the file from a file input

You cannot do so - the browser will not allow this because of security concerns. Although there are workarounds, the fact is that you shouldn't count on this working. The following Stack Overflow questions are relevant here:

In addition to these, the new HTML5 specification states that browsers will need to feed a Windows compatible fakepath into the input type="file" field, ostensibly for backward compatibility reasons.

So trying to obtain the path is worse then useless in newer browsers - you'll actually get a fake one instead.

kubectl apply vs kubectl create?

When running in a CI script, you will have trouble with imperative commands as create raises an error if the resource already exists.

What you can do is applying (declarative pattern) the output of your imperative command, by using --dry-run=true and -o yaml options:

kubectl create whatever --dry-run=true -o yaml | kubectl apply -f -

The command above will not raise an error if the resource already exists (and will update the resource if needed).

This is very useful in some cases where you cannot use the declarative pattern (for instance when creating a docker-registry secret).

Currently I think this is "the easiest" way to get in working :) Hope this helps.

Date minus 1 year?

an easiest way which i used and worked well

date('Y-m-d', strtotime('-1 year'));

this worked perfect.. hope this will help someone else too.. :)

Exception : mockito wanted but not invoked, Actually there were zero interactions with this mock

Your class MyClass creates a new MyClassToBeTested, instead of using your mock. My article on the Mockito wiki describes two ways of dealing with this.

Remove all items from a FormArray in Angular

You can easily define a getter for your array and clear it as follows:

  formGroup: FormGroup
  constructor(private fb: FormBuilder) { }

  ngOnInit() {
    this.formGroup = this.fb.group({
      sliders: this.fb.array([])
    })
  }
  get sliderForms() {
    return this.formGroup.get('sliders') as FormArray
  }

  clearAll() {
    this.formGroup.reset()
    this.sliderForms.clear()
  }

What are the main performance differences between varchar and nvarchar SQL Server data types?

There'll be exceptional instances when you'll want to deliberately restrict the data type to ensure it doesn't contain characters from a certain set. For example, I had a scenario where I needed to store the domain name in a database. Internationalisation for domain names wasn't reliable at the time so it was better to restrict the input at the base level, and help to avoid any potential issues.

target="_blank" vs. target="_new"

it's my understanding that target = whatever will look for a frame/window with that name. If not found, it will open up a new window with that name. If whatever == "_new", it will appear just as if you used _blank except.....

Using one of the reserved target names will bypass the "looking" phase. So, target = "_blank" on a dozen links will open up a dozen blank windows, but target = whatever on a dozen links will only open up one window. target = "_new" on a dozen links may give inconstant behavior. I haven't tried it on several browsers, but should only open up one window.

At least this is how I interpret the rules.

Type of expression is ambiguous without more context Swift

Explicitly declaring the inputs for that mapping function should do the trick:

let imageToDeleteParameters  = imagesToDelete.map {
    (whatever : WhateverClass) -> Dictionary<String, Any> in
    ["id": whatever.id, "url": whatever.url.absoluteString, "_destroy": true]
}

Substitute the real class of "$0" for "WhateverClass" in that code snippet, and it should work.

Swift - Remove " character from string

Let's say you have a string:

var string = "potatoes + carrots"

And you want to replace the word "potatoes" in that string with "tomatoes"

string = string.replacingOccurrences(of: "potatoes", with: "tomatoes", options: NSString.CompareOptions.literal, range: nil)

If you print your string, it will now be: "tomatoes + carrots"

If you want to remove the word potatoes from the sting altogether, you can use:

string = string.replacingOccurrences(of: "potatoes", with: "", options: NSString.CompareOptions.literal, range: nil)

If you want to use some other characters in your sting, use:

  • Null Character (\0)
  • Backslash (\)
  • Horizontal Tab (\t)
  • Line Feed (\n)
  • Carriage Return (\r)
  • Double Quote (\")
  • Single Quote (\')

Example:

string = string.replacingOccurrences(of: "potatoes", with: "dog\'s toys", options: NSString.CompareOptions.literal, range: nil)

Output: "dog's toys + carrots"

Create ul and li elements in javascript.

Use the CSS property list-style-position to position the bullet:

list-style-position:inside /* or outside */;

How to clear exisiting dropdownlist items when its content changes?

just compiled your code and the only thing that is missing from it is that you have to Bind your ddl2 to an empty datasource before binding it again like this:

Protected Sub ddl1_SelectedIndexChanged(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As EventArgs) //ddl2.Items.Clear()

ddl2.DataSource=New List(Of String)()
ddl2.DataSource = sql2
ddl2.DataBind() End Sub

and it worked just fine

How do I create a branch?

Branching in Subversion is facilitated by a very very light and efficient copying facility.

Branching and tagging are effectively the same. Just copy a whole folder in the repository to somewhere else in the repository using the svn copy command.

Basically this means that it is by convention what copying a folder means - whether it be a backup, tag, branch or whatever. Depending upon how you want to think about things (normally depending upon which SCM tool you have used in the past) you need to set up a folder structure within your repository to support your style.

Common styles are to have a bunch of folders at the top of your repository called tags, branches, trunk, etc. - that allows you to copy your whole trunk (or sub-sets) into the tags and/or branches folders. If you have more than one project you might want to replicate this kind of structure under each project:

It can take a while to get used to the concept - but it works - just make sure you (and your team) are clear on the conventions that you are going to use. It is also a good idea to have a good naming convention - something that tells you why the branch/tag was made and whether it is still appropriate - consider ways of archiving branches that are obsolete.

How to handle notification when app in background in Firebase

According to the docs: May 17, 2017

When your app is in the background, Android directs notification messages to the system tray. A user tap on the notification opens the app launcher by default.

This includes messages that contain both notification and data payload (and all messages sent from the Notifications console). In these cases, the notification is delivered to the device's system tray, and the data payload is delivered in the extras of the intent of your launcher Activity.

So,you should use both of the payload notification + data:

{
  "to": "FCM registration ID",
  "notification": {
    "title" : "title",
    "body"  : "body text",
    "icon"  : "ic_notification"
   },
   "data": {
     "someData" : "This is some data",
     "someData2" : "etc"
   }
}

There is no need to use click_action.You should just get exras from intent on LAUNCHER activity

<activity android:name=".MainActivity">
        <intent-filter>
            <category android:name="android.intent.category.LAUNCHER" />
        </intent-filter>
</activity>

Java code should be on onCreate method on MainActivity :

Intent intent = getIntent();
if (intent != null && intent.getExtras() != null) {
    Bundle extras = intent.getExtras();
    String someData= extras.getString("someData");
    String someData2 = extras.getString("someData2");
}

You can test both of the payload notification + data from Firebase Notifications Console . Don't forget to fill custom data fields on Advanced options section

Converting a String to Object

A String is a type of Object. So any method that accepts Object as parameter will surely accept String also. Please provide more of your code if you still do not find a solution.

Add a background image to shape in XML Android

I used the following for a drawable image with a border.

First make a .xml file with this code in drawable folder:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<layer-list xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
<item>
    <shape android:shape="oval">
        <solid android:color="@color/orange"/>
    </shape>
</item>
<item
    android:top="2dp"
    android:bottom="2dp"
    android:left="2dp"
    android:right="2dp">
    <shape android:shape="oval">
        <solid android:color="@color/white"/>
    </shape>
</item>
<item
    android:drawable="@drawable/messages" //here messages is my image name, please give here your image name.
    android:bottom="15dp"
    android:left="15dp"
    android:right="15dp"
    android:top="15dp"/>

Second make a view .xml file in layout folder and call the above .xml file with this way

<ImageView
   android:id="@+id/imageView2"
   android:layout_width="wrap_content"
   android:layout_height="wrap_content"
   android:src="@drawable/merchant_circle" /> // here merchant_circle will be your first .xml file name

Function to calculate R2 (R-squared) in R

Not sure why this isn't implemented directly in R, but this answer is essentially the same as Andrii's and Wordsforthewise, I just turned into a function for the sake of convenience if somebody uses it a lot like me.

r2_general <-function(preds,actual){
  return(1- sum((preds - actual) ^ 2)/sum((actual - mean(actual))^2))
}

In my case, I had copied some code from another project that was using Automapper - took me ages to work that one out. Just had to add automapper nuget package to project.

How to decode a Base64 string?

This page shows up when you google how to convert to base64, so for completeness:

$b  = [System.Text.Encoding]::UTF8.GetBytes("blahblah")
[System.Convert]::ToBase64String($b)

HTML: How to limit file upload to be only images?

Edited

If things were as they SHOULD be, you could do this via the "Accept" attribute.

http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum21/6310.htm

However, browsers pretty much ignore this, so this is irrelavant. The short answer is, i don't think there is a way to do it in HTML. You'd have to check it server-side instead.

The following older post has some information that could help you with alternatives.

File input 'accept' attribute - is it useful?

MySQL stored procedure return value

You have done the stored procedure correctly but I think you have not referenced the valido variable properly. I was looking at some examples and they have put an @ symbol before the parameter like this @Valido

This statement SELECT valido; should be like this SELECT @valido;

Look at this link mysql stored-procedure: out parameter. Notice the solution with 7 upvotes. He has reference the parameter with an @ sign, hence I suggested you add an @ sign before your parameter valido

I hope that works for you. if it does vote up and mark it as the answer. If not, tell me.

ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified (PLSQL Developer)

I had an issue at work. The oracle server was "patched" and one of the databases I use could not be connect via the TNSNames entry but via Basic connection. The Database was up and admin could see it was up and running.

Addionally any application that used TNS for connecting to the database would not work either.

The problem found was that the database name was not correct in the TNS file but for some reason it's been working for years. Correcting the name fixed it for us. I did find that Oracle SQL Developer kept using the old TNS entry even after I updated it and I don't feel like reinstalling it for just one DB Connection. It appears that when the database was created it was given a smaller name then the others and via some cut and paste action within the TNSNames file it got mixed up. No one is sure how its worked as we're investigating it but the oracle patch ensured that the name had to be correct

An example of the name was it was down as "DBName.Part1.Part2" but in fact the DB name was "DBName"

Is there a rule-of-thumb for how to divide a dataset into training and validation sets?

Suppose you have less data, I suggest to try 70%, 80% and 90% and test which is giving better result. In case of 90% there are chances that for 10% test you get poor accuracy.

Dynamic classname inside ngClass in angular 2

You can use <i [className]="'fa fa-' + data?.icon"> </i>

Numpy Resize/Rescale Image

While it might be possible to use numpy alone to do this, the operation is not built-in. That said, you can use scikit-image (which is built on numpy) to do this kind of image manipulation.

Scikit-Image rescaling documentation is here.

For example, you could do the following with your image:

from skimage.transform import resize
bottle_resized = resize(bottle, (140, 54))

This will take care of things like interpolation, anti-aliasing, etc. for you.

What's the difference between an argument and a parameter?

Simple Explanations without code

A "parameter" is a very general, broad thing, but an "argument: is a very specific, concrete thing. This is best illustrated via everyday examples:

Example 1: Vending Machines - Money is the parameter, $2.00 is the argument

Most machines take an input and return an output. For example a vending machine takes as an input: money, and returns: fizzy drinks as the output. In that particular case, it accepts as a parameter: money.

What then is the argument? Well if I put $2.00 into the machine, then the argument is: $2.00 - it is the very specific input used.

Example 2: Cars - Petrol is the parameter

Let's consider a car: they accept petrol (unleaded gasoline) as an input. It can be said that these machines accept parameters of type: petrol. The argument would be the exact and concrete input I put into my car. e.g. In my case, the argument would be: 40 litres of unleaded petrol/gasoline.

Example 3 - Elaboration on Arguments

An argument is a particular and specific example of an input. Suppose my machine takes a person as an input and turns them into someone who isn't a liar.

What then is an argument? The argument will be the particular person who is actually put into the machine. e.g. if Colin Powell is put into the machine then the argument would be Colin Powell.

So the parameter would be a person as an abstract concept, but the argument would always be a particular person with a particular name who is put into the machine. The argument is specific and concrete.

That's the difference. Simple.

Confused?

Post a comment and I'll fix up the explanation.

Is it safe to use Project Lombok?

I know I'm late, but I can't resist the temptation: anybody liking Lombok should also have a look at Scala. Many good ideas that you find in Lombok are part of the Scala language.

On your question: it's definitely easier to get your developers trying Lombok than Scala. Give it a try and if they like it, try Scala.

Just as a disclaimer: I like Java, too!

How can I get the source code of a Python function?

While I'd generally agree that inspect is a good answer, I'd disagree that you can't get the source code of objects defined in the interpreter. If you use dill.source.getsource from dill, you can get the source of functions and lambdas, even if they are defined interactively. It also can get the code for from bound or unbound class methods and functions defined in curries... however, you might not be able to compile that code without the enclosing object's code.

>>> from dill.source import getsource
>>>
>>> def add(x,y):
...   return x+y
...
>>> squared = lambda x:x**2
>>>
>>> print getsource(add)
def add(x,y):
  return x+y

>>> print getsource(squared)
squared = lambda x:x**2

>>>
>>> class Foo(object):
...   def bar(self, x):
...     return x*x+x
...
>>> f = Foo()
>>>
>>> print getsource(f.bar)
def bar(self, x):
    return x*x+x

>>>

How can I get the SQL of a PreparedStatement?

If you're executing the query and expecting a ResultSet (you are in this scenario, at least) then you can simply call ResultSet's getStatement() like so:

ResultSet rs = pstmt.executeQuery();
String executedQuery = rs.getStatement().toString();

The variable executedQuery will contain the statement that was used to create the ResultSet.

Now, I realize this question is quite old, but I hope this helps someone..

For div to extend full height

In case also setting the height of the html and the body to 100% makes everything messier for you as it did for me, the following worked for me:

height: calc(100vh - 33rem)

The - 33rem is the height of the elements coming after the one we want to take full height, i.e., 100vh. By subtracting the height, we will make sure there is no overflow and it will always be responsive (assuming we are working with rem instead of px).

Click button copy to clipboard using jQuery

As of 2020, you should use the Clipboard Api.

navigator.clipboard.writeText('text here you want to copy').then(function () {
    alert('It worked! Do a CTRL - V to paste')
}, function () {
    alert('Failure to copy. Check permissions for clipboard')
});

Error while sending QUERY packet

You can solve this problem by following few steps:

1) open your terminal window

2) please write following command in your terminal

ssh root@yourIP port

3) Enter root password

4) Now edit your server my.cnf file using below command

nano /etc/my.cnf

if command is not recognized do this first or try vi then repeat: yum install nano.

OR

  vi /etc/my.cnf

5) Add the line under the [MYSQLD] section. :

max_allowed_packet=524288000 (obviously adjust size for whatever you need)
wait_timeout = 100

6) Control + O (save) then ENTER (confirm) then Control + X (exit file)

7) Then restart your mysql server by following command

/etc/init.d/mysql stop
/etc/init.d/mysql start

8) You can verify by going into PHPMyAdmin or opening a SQL command window and executing:

SHOW VARIABLES LIKE 'max_allowed_packet'

This works for me. I hope it should work for you.

How to create tar.gz archive file in Windows?

tar.gz file is just a tar file that's been gzipped. Both tar and gzip are available for windows.

If you like GUIs (Graphical user interface), 7zip can pack with both tar and gzip.

Passing enum or object through an intent (the best solution)

This is an old question, but everybody fails to mention that Enums are actually Serializable and therefore can perfectly be added to an Intent as an extra. Like this:

public enum AwesomeEnum {
  SOMETHING, OTHER;
}

intent.putExtra("AwesomeEnum", AwesomeEnum.SOMETHING);

AwesomeEnum result = (AwesomeEnum) intent.getSerializableExtra("AwesomeEnum");

The suggestion to use static or application-wide variables is a really bad idea. This really couples your activities to a state managing system, and it is hard to maintain, debug and problem bound.

ALTERNATIVES:

A good point was noted by tedzyc about the fact that the solution provided by Oderik gives you an error. However, the alternative offered is a bit cumbersome to use (even using generics).

If you are really worried about the performance of adding the enum to an Intent I propose these alternatives instead:

OPTION 1:

public enum AwesomeEnum {
  SOMETHING, OTHER;
  private static final String name = AwesomeEnum.class.getName();
  public void attachTo(Intent intent) {
    intent.putExtra(name, ordinal());
  }
  public static AwesomeEnum detachFrom(Intent intent) {
    if(!intent.hasExtra(name)) throw new IllegalStateException();
    return values()[intent.getIntExtra(name, -1)];
  }
}

Usage:

// Sender usage
AwesomeEnum.SOMETHING.attachTo(intent);
// Receiver usage
AwesomeEnum result = AwesomeEnum.detachFrom(intent);

OPTION 2: (generic, reusable and decoupled from the enum)

public final class EnumUtil {
    public static class Serializer<T extends Enum<T>> extends Deserializer<T> {
        private T victim;
        @SuppressWarnings("unchecked")
        public Serializer(T victim) {
            super((Class<T>) victim.getClass());
            this.victim = victim;
        }
        public void to(Intent intent) {
            intent.putExtra(name, victim.ordinal());
        }
    }
    public static class Deserializer<T extends Enum<T>> {
        protected Class<T> victimType;
        protected String name;
        public Deserializer(Class<T> victimType) {
            this.victimType = victimType;
            this.name = victimType.getName();
        }
        public T from(Intent intent) {
            if (!intent.hasExtra(name)) throw new IllegalStateException();
            return victimType.getEnumConstants()[intent.getIntExtra(name, -1)];
        }
    }
    public static <T extends Enum<T>> Deserializer<T> deserialize(Class<T> victim) {
        return new Deserializer<T>(victim);
    }
    public static <T extends Enum<T>> Serializer<T> serialize(T victim) {
        return new Serializer<T>(victim);
    }
}

Usage:

// Sender usage
EnumUtil.serialize(AwesomeEnum.Something).to(intent);
// Receiver usage
AwesomeEnum result =
EnumUtil.deserialize(AwesomeEnum.class).from(intent);

OPTION 3 (with Kotlin):

It's been a while, but since now we have Kotlin, I thought I would add another option for the new paradigm. Here we can make use of extension functions and reified types (which retains the type when compiling).

inline fun <reified T : Enum<T>> Intent.putExtra(victim: T): Intent =
    putExtra(T::class.java.name, victim.ordinal)

inline fun <reified T: Enum<T>> Intent.getEnumExtra(): T? =
    getIntExtra(T::class.java.name, -1)
        .takeUnless { it == -1 }
        ?.let { T::class.java.enumConstants[it] }

There are a few benefits of doing it this way.

  • We don't require the "overhead" of an intermediary object to do the serialization as it's all done in place thanks to inline which will replace the calls with the code inside the function.
  • The functions are more familiar as they are similar to the SDK ones.
  • The IDE will autocomplete these functions which means there is no need to have previous knowledge of the utility class.

One of the downsides is that, if we change the order of the Emums, then any old reference will not work. This can be an issue with things like Intents inside pending intents as they may survive updates. However, for the rest of the time, it should be ok.

It's important to note that other solutions, like using the name instead of the position, will also fail if we rename any of the values. Although, in those cases, we get an exception instead of the incorrect Enum value.

Usage:

// Sender usage
intent.putExtra(AwesomeEnum.SOMETHING)
// Receiver usage
val result = intent.getEnumExtra<AwesomeEnum>()

react native get TextInput value

This piece of code worked for me. What I was missing was I was not passing 'this' in button action:

Disable/Enable button in Excel/VBA

I'm using excel 2010 and below VBA code worked fine for a Form Button. It removes the assigned macro from the button and assign in next command.

To disable:

ActiveSheet.Shapes("Button Name").OnAction = Empty
ActiveSheet.Shapes("Button Name").DrawingObject.Font.ColorIndex = 16

To enable:

ActiveSheet.Shapes("Button Name").OnAction = ActiveWorkbook.Name & "!Macro function Name with _Click"
ActiveSheet.Shapes("Button Name").DrawingObject.Font.ColorIndex = 1

Pls note "ActiveWorkbook.Name" stays as it is. Do not insert workbook name instead of "Name".

Difference between Return and Break statements

break is used to exit (escape) the for-loop, while-loop, switch-statement that you are currently executing.

return will exit the entire method you are currently executing (and possibly return a value to the caller, optional).

So to answer your question (as others have noted in comments and answers) you cannot use either break nor return to escape an if-else-statement per se. They are used to escape other scopes.

Consider the following example. The value of x inside the while-loop will determine if the code below the loop will be executed or not:

void f()
{
   int x = -1;
   while(true)
   {
     if(x == 0)
        break; // escape while() and jump to execute code after the the loop
     else if(x == 1)
        return; // will end the function f() immediately,
                       // no further code inside this method will be executed.

     do stuff and eventually set variable x to either 0 or 1
     ...
   }

   code that will be executed on break (but not with return).
   ....
}

Automatically add all files in a folder to a target using CMake?

As of CMake 3.1+ the developers strongly discourage users from using file(GLOB or file(GLOB_RECURSE to collect lists of source files.

Note: We do not recommend using GLOB to collect a list of source files from your source tree. If no CMakeLists.txt file changes when a source is added or removed then the generated build system cannot know when to ask CMake to regenerate. The CONFIGURE_DEPENDS flag may not work reliably on all generators, or if a new generator is added in the future that cannot support it, projects using it will be stuck. Even if CONFIGURE_DEPENDS works reliably, there is still a cost to perform the check on every rebuild.

See the documentation here.

There are two goods answers ([1], [2]) here on SO detailing the reasons to manually list source files.

It is possible. E.g. with file(GLOB:

cmake_minimum_required(VERSION 2.8)

file(GLOB helloworld_SRC
     "*.h"
     "*.cpp"
)

add_executable(helloworld ${helloworld_SRC})

Note that this requires manual re-running of cmake if a source file is added or removed, since the generated build system does not know when to ask CMake to regenerate, and doing it at every build would increase the build time.

As of CMake 3.12, you can pass the CONFIGURE_DEPENDS flag to file(GLOB to automatically check and reset the file lists any time the build is invoked. You would write:

cmake_minimum_required(VERSION 3.12)

file(GLOB helloworld_SRC CONFIGURE_DEPENDS "*.h" "*.cpp")

This at least lets you avoid manually re-running CMake every time a file is added.

How do I put hint in a asp:textbox

The placeholder attribute

You're looking for the placeholder attribute. Use it like any other attribute inside your ASP.net control:

<asp:textbox id="txtWithHint" placeholder="hint" runat="server"/>

Don't bother about your IDE (i.e. Visual Studio) maybe not knowing the attribute. Attributes which are not registered with ASP.net are passed through and rendered as is. So the above code (basically) renders to:

<input type="text" placeholder="hint"/>

Using placeholder in resources

A fine way of applying the hint to the control is using resources. This way you may have localized hints. Let's say you have an index.aspx file, your App_LocalResources/index.aspx.resx file contains

<data name="WithHint.placeholder">
    <value>hint</value>
</data>

and your control looks like

<asp:textbox id="txtWithHint" meta:resourcekey="WithHint" runat="server"/>

the rendered result will look the same as the one in the chapter above.

Add attribute in code behind

Like any other attribute you can add the placeholder to the AttributeCollection:

txtWithHint.Attributes.Add("placeholder", "hint");

HTTP vs HTTPS performance

In addition to everything mentioned so far, please keep in mind that some (all?) web browsers do not store cached content obtained over HTTPS on the local hard-drive for security reasons. This means that from the user's perspective pages with plenty of static content will appear to load slower after the browser is restarted, and from your server's perspective the volume of requests for static content over HTTPS will be higher than would have been over HTTP.

What are named pipes?

Named pipes is a windows system for inter-process communication. In the case of SQL server, if the server is on the same machine as the client, then it is possible to use named pipes to tranfer the data, as opposed to TCP/IP.

How to change font size in html?

You can do this by setting a style in your paragraph tag. For example if you wanted to change the font size to 28px.

<p style="font-size: 28px;"> Hello, World! </p>

You can also set the color by setting:

<p style="color: blue;"> Hello, World! </p>

However, if you want to preview font sizes and colors (which I recommend doing) before you add them to your website and use them. I recommend testing them out beforehand so you pick a good font size and color that contrasts well with the background. I recommend using this site if you wish to do so, couldn't find anything else: http://fontpreview.herokuapp.com/

Angularjs checkbox checked by default on load and disables Select list when checked

If you use ng-model, you don't want to also use ng-checked. Instead just initialize the model variable to true. Normally you would do this in a controller that is managing your page (add one). In your fiddle I just did the initialization in an ng-init attribute for demonstration purposes.

http://jsfiddle.net/UTULc/

<div ng-app="">
  Send to Office: <input type="checkbox" ng-model="checked" ng-init="checked=true"><br/>
  <select id="transferTo" ng-disabled="checked">
    <option>Tech1</option>
    <option>Tech2</option>
  </select>
</div>

JSON character encoding

The symptoms indicate that the JSON string which was originally in UTF-8 encoding was written to the HTTP response using ISO-8859-1 encoding and the webbrowser was instructed to display it as UTF-8. If it was written using UTF-8 and displayed as ISO-8859-1, then you would have seen aériennes. If it was written and displayed using ISO-8859-1, then you would have seen ariennes.

To fix the problem of the JSON string incorrectly been written as ISO-8859-1, you need to configure your webapp / Spring to use UTF-8 as HTTP response encoding. Basically, it should be doing the following under the covers:

response.setCharacterEncoding("UTF-8");

Don't change your content type header. It's perfectly fine for JSON and it is been displayed as UTF-8.

HashMap with multiple values under the same key

You could:

  1. Use a map that has a list as the value. Map<KeyType, List<ValueType>>.
  2. Create a new wrapper class and place instances of this wrapper in the map. Map<KeyType, WrapperType>.
  3. Use a tuple like class (saves creating lots of wrappers). Map<KeyType, Tuple<Value1Type, Value2Type>>.
  4. Use mulitple maps side-by-side.

Examples

1. Map with list as the value

// create our map
Map<String, List<Person>> peopleByForename = new HashMap<>();

// populate it
List<Person> people = new ArrayList<>();
people.add(new Person("Bob Smith"));
people.add(new Person("Bob Jones"));
peopleByForename.put("Bob", people);

// read from it
List<Person> bobs = peopleByForename["Bob"];
Person bob1 = bobs[0];
Person bob2 = bobs[1];

The disadvantage with this approach is that the list is not bound to exactly two values.

2. Using wrapper class

// define our wrapper
class Wrapper {
    public Wrapper(Person person1, Person person2) {
       this.person1 = person1;
       this.person2 = person2;
    }

    public Person getPerson1 { return this.person1; }
    public Person getPerson2 { return this.person2; }

    private Person person1;
    private Person person2;
}

// create our map
Map<String, Wrapper> peopleByForename = new HashMap<>();

// populate it
Wrapper people = new Wrapper();
peopleByForename.put("Bob", new Wrapper(new Person("Bob Smith"),
                                        new Person("Bob Jones"));

// read from it
Wrapper bobs = peopleByForename.get("Bob");
Person bob1 = bobs.getPerson1;
Person bob2 = bobs.getPerson2;

The disadvantage to this approach is that you have to write a lot of boiler-plate code for all of these very simple container classes.

3. Using a tuple

// you'll have to write or download a Tuple class in Java, (.NET ships with one)

// create our map
Map<String, Tuple2<Person, Person> peopleByForename = new HashMap<>();

// populate it
peopleByForename.put("Bob", new Tuple2(new Person("Bob Smith",
                                       new Person("Bob Jones"));

// read from it
Tuple<Person, Person> bobs = peopleByForename["Bob"];
Person bob1 = bobs.Item1;
Person bob2 = bobs.Item2;

This is the best solution in my opinion.

4. Multiple maps

// create our maps
Map<String, Person> firstPersonByForename = new HashMap<>();
Map<String, Person> secondPersonByForename = new HashMap<>();

// populate them
firstPersonByForename.put("Bob", new Person("Bob Smith"));
secondPersonByForename.put("Bob", new Person("Bob Jones"));

// read from them
Person bob1 = firstPersonByForename["Bob"];
Person bob2 = secondPersonByForename["Bob"];

The disadvantage of this solution is that it's not obvious that the two maps are related, a programmatic error could see the two maps get out of sync.

How to set the max value and min value of <input> in html5 by javascript or jquery?

jQuery makes it easy to set any attributes for an element - just use the .attr() method:

$(document).ready(function() {
    $("input").attr({
       "max" : 10,        // substitute your own
       "min" : 2 // values (or variables) here
    });
});

The document ready handler is not required if your script block appears after the element(s) you want to manipulate.

Using a selector of "input" will set the attributes for all inputs though, so really you should have some way to identify the input in question. If you gave it an id you could say:

$("#idHere").attr(...

...or with a class:

$(".classHere").attr(...

How to remove all the punctuation in a string? (Python)

Strip won't work. It only removes leading and trailing instances, not everything in between: http://docs.python.org/2/library/stdtypes.html#str.strip

Having fun with filter:

import string
asking = "hello! what's your name?"
predicate = lambda x:x not in string.punctuation
filter(predicate, asking)

Returning value from Thread

Usually you would do it something like this

 public class Foo implements Runnable {
     private volatile int value;

     @Override
     public void run() {
        value = 2;
     }

     public int getValue() {
         return value;
     }
 }

Then you can create the thread and retrieve the value (given that the value has been set)

Foo foo = new Foo();
Thread thread = new Thread(foo);
thread.start();
thread.join();
int value = foo.getValue();

tl;dr a thread cannot return a value (at least not without a callback mechanism). You should reference a thread like an ordinary class and ask for the value.

Parsing Query String in node.js

You can use the parse method from the URL module in the request callback.

var http = require('http');
var url = require('url');

// Configure our HTTP server to respond with Hello World to all requests.
var server = http.createServer(function (request, response) {
  var queryData = url.parse(request.url, true).query;
  response.writeHead(200, {"Content-Type": "text/plain"});

  if (queryData.name) {
    // user told us their name in the GET request, ex: http://host:8000/?name=Tom
    response.end('Hello ' + queryData.name + '\n');

  } else {
    response.end("Hello World\n");
  }
});

// Listen on port 8000, IP defaults to 127.0.0.1
server.listen(8000);

I suggest you read the HTTP module documentation to get an idea of what you get in the createServer callback. You should also take a look at sites like http://howtonode.org/ and checkout the Express framework to get started with Node faster.

Changing one character in a string

if your world is 100% ascii/utf-8(a lot of use cases fit in that box):

b = bytearray(s, 'utf-8')
# process - e.g., lowercasing:
#    b[0] = b[i+1] - 32
s = str(b, 'utf-8')

python 3.7.3

Tomcat 7.0.43 "INFO: Error parsing HTTP request header"

I had this issue when working on a Java Project in Debian 10 with Tomcat as the application server.

The issue was that the application already had https defined as it's default protocol while I was using http to call the application in the browser. So when I try running the application I get this error in my log file:

org.apache.coyote.http11.AbstractHttp11Processor process
INFO: Error parsing HTTP request header
 Note: further occurrences of HTTP header parsing errors will be logged at DEBUG level.

I however tried using the https protocol in the browser but it didn't connect throwing the error:

Here's how I solved it:

You need a certificate to setup the https protocol for the application. I first had to create a keystore file for the application, more like a self-signed certificate for the https protocol:

sudo keytool -genkey -keyalg RSA -alias tomcat -keystore /usr/share/tomcat.keystore

Note: You need to have Java installed on the server to be able to do this. Java can be installed using sudo apt install default-jdk.

Next, I added a https Tomcat server connector for the application in the Tomcat server configuration file (/opt/tomcat/conf/server.xml):

sudo nano /opt/tomcat/conf/server.xml

Add the following to the configuration of the application. Notice that the keystore file location and password are specified. Also a port for the https protocol is defined, which is different from the port for the http protocol:

<Connector protocol="org.apache.coyote.http11.Http11Protocol"
           port="8443" maxThreads="200" scheme="https"
           secure="true" SSLEnabled="true"
           keystoreFile="/usr/share/tomcat.keystore"
           keystorePass="my-password"
           clientAuth="false" sslProtocol="TLS"
           URIEncoding="UTF-8"
           compression="force"
           compressableMimeType="text/html,text/xml,text/plain,text/javascript,text/css"/>

So the full server configuration for the application looked liked this in the Tomcat server configuration file (/opt/tomcat/conf/server.xml):

<Service name="my-application">
  <Connector protocol="org.apache.coyote.http11.Http11Protocol"
             port="8443" maxThreads="200" scheme="https"
             secure="true" SSLEnabled="true"
             keystoreFile="/usr/share/tomcat.keystore"
             keystorePass="my-password"
             clientAuth="false" sslProtocol="TLS"
             URIEncoding="UTF-8"
             compression="force"
             compressableMimeType="text/html,text/xml,text/plain,text/javascript,text/css"/>

  <Connector port="8009" protocol="HTTP/1.1"
             connectionTimeout="20000"
             redirectPort="8443" />

  <Engine name="my-application" defaultHost="localhost">
     <Realm className="org.apache.catalina.realm.LockOutRealm">
        <Realm className="org.apache.catalina.realm.UserDatabaseRealm"
             resourceName="UserDatabase"/>
    </Realm>

    <Host name="localhost"  appBase="webapps"
          unpackWARs="true" autoDeploy="true">

        <Valve className="org.apache.catalina.valves.AccessLogValve" directory="logs"
             prefix="localhost_access_log" suffix=".txt"
             pattern="%h %l %u %t &quot;%r&quot; %s %b" />

    </Host>
  </Engine>
</Service>

This time when I tried accessing the application from the browser using:

https://my-server-ip-address:https-port

In my case it was:

https:35.123.45.6:8443

it worked fine. Although, I had to accept a warning which added a security exception for the website since the certificate used is a self-signed one.

That's all.

I hope this helps

How to make inline plots in Jupyter Notebook larger?

A quick fix to "plot overlap" is to use plt.tight_layout():

Example (in my case)

for i,var in enumerate(categorical_variables):
    plt.title(var)
    plt.xticks(rotation=45)
    df[var].hist()
    plt.subplot(len(categorical_variables)/2, 2, i+1)

plt.tight_layout()

How do I pass environment variables to Docker containers?

You can pass using -e parameters with docker run .. command as mentioned here and as mentioned by @errata.

However, the possible downside of this approach is that your credentials will be displayed in the process listing, where you run it.

To make it more secure, you may write your credentials in a configuration file and do docker run with --env-file as mentioned here. Then you can control the access of that config file so that others having access to that machine wouldn't see your credentials.

How can I convert ticks to a date format?

It's much simpler to do this:

DateTime dt = new DateTime(633896886277130000);

Which gives

dt.ToString() ==> "9/27/2009 10:50:27 PM"

You can format this any way you want by using dt.ToString(MyFormat). Refer to this reference for format strings. "MMMM dd, yyyy" works for what you specified in the question.

Not sure where you get October 1.

How do I disable form resizing for users?

Change the FormBorderStyle to one of the fixed values: FixedSingle, Fixed3D, FixedDialog or FixedToolWindow.

The FormBorderStyle property is under the Appearance category.

Or check this:

// Define the border style of the form to a dialog box.
form1.FormBorderStyle = FormBorderStyle.FixedDialog;

// Set the MaximizeBox to false to remove the maximize box.
form1.MaximizeBox = false;

// Set the MinimizeBox to false to remove the minimize box.
form1.MinimizeBox = false;

// Set the start position of the form to the center of the screen.
form1.StartPosition = FormStartPosition.CenterScreen;

// Display the form as a modal dialog box.
form1.ShowDialog();

C# "No suitable method found to override." -- but there is one

Your code as given (after the edit) compiles fine, so something else is wrong that isn't in what you posted.

Some things to check, is everything public? That includes both the class and the method.

Overload with different parameters?

Are you sure that Base is the class you think it is? I.e. is there another class by the same name that it's actually referencing?

Edit:

To answer the question in your comment, you can't override a method with different parameters, nor is there a need to. You can create a new method (with the new parameter) without the override keyword and it will work just fine.

If your intention is to prohibit calling of the base method without the parameter you can mark the method as protected instead of public. That way it can only be called from classes that inherit from Base

How to find the extension of a file in C#?

You may simply read the stream of a file

using (var target = new MemoryStream())
{
    postedFile.InputStream.CopyTo(target);
    var array = target.ToArray();
}

First 5/6 indexes will tell you the file type. In case of FLV its 70, 76, 86, 1, 5.

private static readonly byte[] FLV = { 70, 76, 86, 1, 5};

bool isAllowed = array.Take(5).SequenceEqual(FLV);

if isAllowed equals true then its FLV.

OR

Read the content of a file

var contentArray = target.GetBuffer();
var content = Encoding.ASCII.GetString(contentArray);

First two/three letters will tell you the file type.
In case of FLV its "FLV......"

content.StartsWith("FLV")

Call an activity method from a fragment

Here is how I did this:

first make interface

interface NavigationInterface {
    fun closeActivity()
}

next make sure activity implements interface and overrides interface method(s)

class NotesActivity : AppCompatActivity(), NavigationInterface {

    override fun onCreate(savedInstanceState: Bundle?) {
        super.onCreate(savedInstanceState)
        setContentView(R.layout.activity_notes)
        setSupportActionBar(findViewById(R.id.toolbar))
    }

    override fun closeActivity() {
        this.finish()
    }
}

then make sure to create interface listener in fragment

private lateinit var navigationInterface: NavigationInterface

override fun onCreateView(
        inflater: LayoutInflater, container: ViewGroup?,
        savedInstanceState: Bundle?
): View? {
    //establish interface communication
    activity?.let {
        instantiateNavigationInterface(it)
    }
    // Inflate the layout for this fragment
    return inflater.inflate(R.layout.fragment_notes_info, container, false)
}

private fun instantiateNavigationInterface(context: FragmentActivity) {
    navigationInterface = context as NavigationInterface
}

then you can make calls like such:

view.findViewById<Button>(R.id.button_second).setOnClickListener {
    navigationInterface.closeActivity()
}

Cross Domain Form POSTing

It is possible to build an arbitrary GET or POST request and send it to any server accessible to a victims browser. This includes devices on your local network, such as Printers and Routers.

There are many ways of building a CSRF exploit. A simple POST based CSRF attack can be sent using .submit() method. More complex attacks, such as cross-site file upload CSRF attacks will exploit CORS use of the xhr.withCredentals behavior.

CSRF does not violate the Same-Origin Policy For JavaScript because the SOP is concerned with JavaScript reading the server's response to a clients request. CSRF attacks don't care about the response, they care about a side-effect, or state change produced by the request, such as adding an administrative user or executing arbitrary code on the server.

Make sure your requests are protected using one of the methods described in the OWASP CSRF Prevention Cheat Sheet. For more information about CSRF consult the OWASP page on CSRF.

invalid_grant trying to get oAuth token from google

There are two major reasons for invalid_grant error which you have to take care prior to the POST request for Refresh Token and Access Token.

  1. Request header must contain "content-type: application/x-www-form-urlencoded"
  2. Your request payload should be url encoded Form Data, don't send as json object.

RFC 6749 OAuth 2.0 defined invalid_grant as: The provided authorization grant (e.g., authorization code, resource owner credentials) or refresh token is invalid, expired, revoked, does not match the redirection URI used in the authorization request, or was issued to another client.

I found another good article, here you will find many other reasons for this error.

Get Absolute Position of element within the window in wpf

Add this method to a static class:

 public static Rect GetAbsolutePlacement(this FrameworkElement element, bool relativeToScreen = false)
    {
        var absolutePos = element.PointToScreen(new System.Windows.Point(0, 0));
        if (relativeToScreen)
        {
            return new Rect(absolutePos.X, absolutePos.Y, element.ActualWidth, element.ActualHeight);
        }
        var posMW = Application.Current.MainWindow.PointToScreen(new System.Windows.Point(0, 0));
        absolutePos = new System.Windows.Point(absolutePos.X - posMW.X, absolutePos.Y - posMW.Y);
        return new Rect(absolutePos.X, absolutePos.Y, element.ActualWidth, element.ActualHeight);
    }

Set relativeToScreen paramater to true for placement from top left corner of whole screen or to false for placement from top left corner of application window.

Hide element by class in pure Javascript

document.getElementsByClassName returns an HTMLCollection(an array-like object) of all elements matching the class name. The style property is defined for Element not for HTMLCollection. You should access the first element using the bracket(subscript) notation.

document.getElementsByClassName('appBanner')[0].style.visibility = 'hidden';

Updated jsFiddle

To change the style rules of all elements matching the class, using the Selectors API:

[].forEach.call(document.querySelectorAll('.appBanner'), function (el) {
  el.style.visibility = 'hidden';
});

If for...of is available:

for (let el of document.querySelectorAll('.appBanner')) el.style.visibility = 'hidden';

Object of class DateTime could not be converted to string

Because $newDate is an object of type DateTime, not a string. The documentation is explicit:

Returns new DateTime object formatted according to the specified format.

If you want to convert from a string to DateTime back to string to change the format, call DateTime::format at the end to get a formatted string out of your DateTime.

$newDate = DateTime::createFromFormat("l dS F Y", $dateFromDB);
$newDate = $newDate->format('d/m/Y'); // for example

How to detect DataGridView CheckBox event change?

Ben Voigt found the best solution in a comment-reply above:

private void dgvStandingOrder_CurrentCellDirtyStateChanged(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
    if (dgvStandingOrder.CurrentCell is DataGridViewCheckBoxCell)
        dgvStandingOrder.CommitEdit(DataGridViewDataErrorContexts.Commit);
}

Use a content script to access the page context variables and functions

in Content script , i add script tag to the head which binds a 'onmessage' handler, inside the handler i use , eval to execute code. In booth content script i use onmessage handler as well , so i get two way communication. Chrome Docs

//Content Script

var pmsgUrl = chrome.extension.getURL('pmListener.js');
$("head").first().append("<script src='"+pmsgUrl+"' type='text/javascript'></script>");

//Listening to messages from DOM
window.addEventListener("message", function(event) {
  console.log('CS :: message in from DOM', event);
  if(event.data.hasOwnProperty('cmdClient')) {
    var obj = JSON.parse(event.data.cmdClient);
    DoSomthingInContentScript(obj);
 }
});

pmListener.js is a post message url listener

//pmListener.js

//Listen to messages from Content Script and Execute Them
window.addEventListener("message", function (msg) {
  console.log("im in REAL DOM");
  if (msg.data.cmnd) {
    eval(msg.data.cmnd);
  }
});

console.log("injected To Real Dom");

This way , I can have 2 way communication between CS to Real Dom. Its very usefull for example if you need to listen webscoket events , or to any in memory variables or events.

C++ program converts fahrenheit to celsius

In your code sample you are trying to divide an integer with another integer. This is the cause of all your trouble. Here is an article that might find interesting on that subject.

With the notion of integer division you can see right away that this is not what you want in your formula. Instead, you need to use some floating point literals.

I am a rather confused by the title of this thread and your code sample. Do you want to convert Celsius degrees to Fahrenheit or do the opposite?

I will base my code sample on your own code sample until you give more details on what you want.

Here is an example of what you can do :

#include <iostream>
//no need to use the whole std namespace... use what you need :)
using std::cout;
using std::cin;
using std::endl;

int main()
{
    //Variables
    float celsius, //represents the temperature in Celsius degrees
          fahrenheit; //represents the converted temperature in Fahrenheit degrees

    //Ask for the temperature in Celsius degrees
    cout << "Enter Celsius temperature: ";
    cin >> celsius;

    //Formula to convert degrees in Celsius to Fahrenheit degrees
    //Important note: floating point literals need to have the '.0'!
    fahrenheit = celsius * 9.0/5.0 + 32.0;

    //Print the converted temperature to the console
    cout << "Fahrenheit = " << fahrenheit << endl;
}

Getting the last element of a split string array

And if you don't want to construct an array ...

var str = "how,are you doing, today?";
var res = str.replace(/(.*)([, ])([^, ]*$)/,"$3");

The breakdown in english is:

/(anything)(any separator once)(anything that isn't a separator 0 or more times)/

The replace just says replace the entire string with the stuff after the last separator.

So you can see how this can be applied generally. Note the original string is not modified.

Select DISTINCT individual columns in django?

One way to get the list of distinct column names from the database is to use distinct() in conjunction with values().

In your case you can do the following to get the names of distinct categories:

q = ProductOrder.objects.values('Category').distinct()
print q.query # See for yourself.

# The query would look something like
# SELECT DISTINCT "app_productorder"."category" FROM "app_productorder"

There are a couple of things to remember here. First, this will return a ValuesQuerySet which behaves differently from a QuerySet. When you access say, the first element of q (above) you'll get a dictionary, NOT an instance of ProductOrder.

Second, it would be a good idea to read the warning note in the docs about using distinct(). The above example will work but all combinations of distinct() and values() may not.

PS: it is a good idea to use lower case names for fields in a model. In your case this would mean rewriting your model as shown below:

class ProductOrder(models.Model):
    product  = models.CharField(max_length=20, primary_key=True)
    category = models.CharField(max_length=30)
    rank = models.IntegerField()

Using a Python subprocess call to invoke a Python script

First, check if somescript.py is executable and starts with something along the lines of #!/usr/bin/python. If this is done, then you can use subprocess.call('./somescript.py').

Or as another answer points out, you could do subprocess.call(['python', 'somescript.py']).

In which case do you use the JPA @JoinTable annotation?

@ManyToMany associations

Most often, you will need to use @JoinTable annotation to specify the mapping of a many-to-many table relationship:

  • the name of the link table and
  • the two Foreign Key columns

So, assuming you have the following database tables:

Many-to-many table relationship

In the Post entity, you would map this relationship, like this:

@ManyToMany(cascade = {
    CascadeType.PERSIST,
    CascadeType.MERGE
})
@JoinTable(
    name = "post_tag",
    joinColumns = @JoinColumn(name = "post_id"),
    inverseJoinColumns = @JoinColumn(name = "tag_id")
)
private List<Tag> tags = new ArrayList<>();

The @JoinTable annotation is used to specify the table name via the name attribute, as well as the Foreign Key column that references the post table (e.g., joinColumns) and the Foreign Key column in the post_tag link table that references the Tag entity via the inverseJoinColumns attribute.

Notice that the cascade attribute of the @ManyToMany annotation is set to PERSIST and MERGE only because cascading REMOVE is a bad idea since we the DELETE statement will be issued for the other parent record, tag in our case, not to the post_tag record.

Unidirectional @OneToMany associations

The unidirectional @OneToMany associations, that lack a @JoinColumn mapping, behave like many-to-many table relationships, rather than one-to-many.

So, assuming you have the following entity mappings:

@Entity(name = "Post")
@Table(name = "post")
public class Post {

    @Id
    @GeneratedValue
    private Long id;

    private String title;

    @OneToMany(
        cascade = CascadeType.ALL,
        orphanRemoval = true
    )
    private List<PostComment> comments = new ArrayList<>();

    //Constructors, getters and setters removed for brevity
}

@Entity(name = "PostComment")
@Table(name = "post_comment")
public class PostComment {

    @Id
    @GeneratedValue
    private Long id;

    private String review;

    //Constructors, getters and setters removed for brevity
}

Hibernate will assume the following database schema for the above entity mapping:

Unidirectional @OneToMany JPA association database tables

As already explained, the unidirectional @OneToMany JPA mapping behaves like a many-to-many association.

To customize the link table, you can also use the @JoinTable annotation:

@OneToMany(
    cascade = CascadeType.ALL,
    orphanRemoval = true
)
@JoinTable(
    name = "post_comment_ref",
    joinColumns = @JoinColumn(name = "post_id"),
    inverseJoinColumns = @JoinColumn(name = "post_comment_id")
)
private List<PostComment> comments = new ArrayList<>();

And now, the link table is going to be called post_comment_ref and the Foreign Key columns will be post_id, for the post table, and post_comment_id, for the post_comment table.

Unidirectional @OneToMany associations are not efficient, so you are better off using bidirectional @OneToMany associations or just the @ManyToOne side.

What integer hash function are good that accepts an integer hash key?

Knuth's multiplicative method:

hash(i)=i*2654435761 mod 2^32

In general, you should pick a multiplier that is in the order of your hash size (2^32 in the example) and has no common factors with it. This way the hash function covers all your hash space uniformly.

Edit: The biggest disadvantage of this hash function is that it preserves divisibility, so if your integers are all divisible by 2 or by 4 (which is not uncommon), their hashes will be too. This is a problem in hash tables - you can end up with only 1/2 or 1/4 of the buckets being used.

Why Does OAuth v2 Have Both Access and Refresh Tokens?

To further simplify B T's answer: Use refresh tokens when you don't typically want the user to have to type in credentials again, but still want the power to be able to revoke the permissions (by revoking the refresh token)

You cannot revoke an access token, only a refresh token.

What is the proper way to URL encode Unicode characters?

IRIs do not replace URIs, because only URIs (effectively, ASCII) are permissible in some contexts -- including HTTP.

Instead, you specify an IRI and it gets transformed into a URI when going out on the wire.

How to convert a Bitmap to Drawable in android?

javascript : sending custom parameters with window.open() but its not working

if you want to pass POST variables, you have to use a HTML Form:

<form action="http://localhost:8080/login" method="POST" target="_blank">
    <input type="text" name="cid" />
    <input type="password" name="pwd" />
    <input type="submit" value="open" />
</form>

or:

if you want to pass GET variables in an URL, write them without single-quotes:

http://yourdomain.com/login?cid=username&pwd=password

here's how to create the string above with javascrpt variables:

myu = document.getElementById('cid').value;
myp = document.getElementById('pwd').value;
window.open("http://localhost:8080/login?cid="+ myu +"&pwd="+ myp ,"MyTargetWindowName");

in the document with that url, you have to read the GET parameters. if it's in php, use:

$_GET['username']

be aware: to transmit passwords that way is a big security leak!

Difference between java.exe and javaw.exe

java.exe is the console app while javaw.exe is windows app (console-less). You can't have Console with javaw.exe.

No line-break after a hyphen

You can also do it "the joiner way" by inserting "U+2060 Word Joiner".

If Accept-Charset permits, the unicode character itself can be inserted directly into the HTML output.

Otherwise, it can be done using entity encoding. E.g. to join the text red-brown, use:

red-&#x2060;brown

or (decimal equivalent):

red-&#8288;brown

. Another usable character is "U+FEFF Zero Width No-break Space"[ 1 ]:

red-&#xfeff;brown

and (decimal equivalent):

red-&#65279;brown

[1]: Note that while this method still works in major browsers like Chrome, it has been deprecated since Unicode 3.2.

Comparison of "the joiner way" with "U+2011 Non-breaking Hyphen":

  • The word joiner can be used for all other characters, not just hyphens.

  • When using the word joiner, most renderers will rasterize the text identically. On Chrome, FireFox, IE, and Opera, the rendering of normal hyphens, eg:

    a-b-c-d-e-f-g-h-i-j-k-l-m-n-o-p-q-r-s-t-u-v-w-x-y-z

    is identical to the rendering of normal hyphens (with U+2060 Word Joiner), eg:

    a-b-c-d-e-f-g-h-i-j-k-l-m-n-o-p-q-r-s-t-u-v-w-x-y-z

    while the above two renders differ from the rendering of "Non-breaking Hyphen", eg:

    a‑b‑c‑d‑e‑f‑g‑h‑i‑j‑k‑l‑m‑n‑o‑p‑q‑r‑s‑t‑u‑v‑w‑x‑y‑z

    . (The extent of the difference is browser-dependent and font-dependent. E.g. when using a font declaration of "arial", Firefox and IE11 show relatively huge variations, while Chrome and Opera show smaller variations.)

Comparison of "the joiner way" with <span class=c1></span> (CSS .c1 {white-space:nowrap;}) and <nobr></nobr>:

  • The word joiner can be used for situations where usage of HTML tags is restricted, e.g. forms of websites and forums.

  • On the spectrum of presentation and content, majority will consider the word joiner to be closer to content, when compared to tags.

• As tested on Windows 8.1 Core 64-bit using:

    • Firefox 43.0.4
    • Chrome 48.0.2564.109 (Official Build) m (32-bit)
    • Opera 35.0.2066.92

.Contains() on a list of custom class objects

You need to create a object from your list like:

List<CartProduct> lst = new List<CartProduct>();

CartProduct obj = lst.Find(x => (x.Name == "product name"));

That object get the looked value searching by their properties: x.name

Then you can use List methods like Contains or Remove

if (lst.Contains(obj))
{
   lst.Remove(obj);
}

How does DateTime.Now.Ticks exactly work?

Not really an answer to your question as asked, but thought I'd chip in about your general objective.

There already is a method to generate random file names in .NET.

See System.Path.GetTempFileName and GetRandomFileName.

Alternatively, it is a common practice to use a GUID to name random files.

PostgreSQL Crosstab Query

Sorry this isn't complete because I can't test it here, but it may get you off in the right direction. I'm translating from something I use that makes a similar query:

select mt.section, mt1.count as Active, mt2.count as Inactive
from mytable mt
left join (select section, count from mytable where status='Active')mt1
on mt.section = mt1.section
left join (select section, count from mytable where status='Inactive')mt2
on mt.section = mt2.section
group by mt.section,
         mt1.count,
         mt2.count
order by mt.section asc;

The code I'm working from is:

select m.typeID, m1.highBid, m2.lowAsk, m1.highBid - m2.lowAsk as diff, 100*(m1.highBid - m2.lowAsk)/m2.lowAsk as diffPercent
from mktTrades m
   left join (select typeID,MAX(price) as highBid from mktTrades where bid=1 group by typeID)m1
   on m.typeID = m1.typeID
   left join (select typeID,MIN(price) as lowAsk from mktTrades where bid=0 group by typeID)m2
   on m1.typeID = m2.typeID
group by m.typeID,
         m1.highBid,
         m2.lowAsk
order by diffPercent desc;

which will return a typeID, the highest price bid and the lowest price asked and the difference between the two (a positive difference would mean something could be bought for less than it can be sold).

How to change the color of an image on hover

An alternative solution would be to use the new CSS mask image functionality which works in everything apart from IE (still not supported in IE11). This would be more versatile and maintainable than some of the other solutions suggested here. You could also more generally use SVG. e.g.

item { mask: url('/mask-image.png'); }

There is an example of using a mask image here:

http://codepen.io/zerostyle/pen/tHimv

and lots of examples here:

http://codepen.io/yoksel/full/fsdbu/

Different ways of clearing lists

Doing alist = [] does not clear the list, just creates an empty list and binds it to the variable alist. The old list will still exist if it had other variable bindings.

To actually clear a list in-place, you can use any of these ways:

  1. alist.clear() # Python 3.3+, most obvious
  2. del alist[:]
  3. alist[:] = []
  4. alist *= 0 # fastest

See the Mutable Sequence Types documentation page for more details.

How do you append to an already existing string?

In classic sh, you have to do something like:

s=test1
s="${s}test2"

(there are lots of variations on that theme, like s="$s""test2")

In bash, you can use +=:

s=test1
s+=test2

The PowerShell -and conditional operator

The code that you have shown will do what you want iff those properties equal "" when they are not filled in. If they equal $null when not filled in for example, then they will not equal "". Here is an example to prove the point that what you have will work for "":

$foo = 1
$bar = 1
$foo -eq 1 -and $bar -eq 1
True
$foo -eq 1 -and $bar -eq 2
False

calculating execution time in c++

If you have cygwin installed, from it's bash shell, run your executable, say MyProgram, using the time utility, like so:

/usr/bin/time ./MyProgram

This will report how long the execution of your program took -- the output would look something like the following:

real    0m0.792s
user    0m0.046s
sys     0m0.218s

You could also manually modify your C program to instrument it using the clock() library function, like so:

#include <time.h>
int main(void) {
    clock_t tStart = clock();
    /* Do your stuff here */
    printf("Time taken: %.2fs\n", (double)(clock() - tStart)/CLOCKS_PER_SEC);
    return 0;
}

imagecreatefromjpeg and similar functions are not working in PHP

For php 7 on Ubuntu:

sudo apt-get install php7.0-gd

git clone error: RPC failed; curl 56 OpenSSL SSL_read: SSL_ERROR_SYSCALL, errno 10054

you need to increase the buffer size (it's due to the large repository size), so you have to increase it

git config http.postBuffer 524288000

Althought you must have an initializd repository, just porceed as the following

git init
git config http.postBuffer 524288000
git remote add origin <REPO URL>
git pull origin master
...

Save a subplot in matplotlib

Applying the full_extent() function in an answer by @Joe 3 years later from here, you can get exactly what the OP was looking for. Alternatively, you can use Axes.get_tightbbox() which gives a little tighter bounding box

import matplotlib.pyplot as plt
import matplotlib as mpl
import numpy as np
from matplotlib.transforms import Bbox

def full_extent(ax, pad=0.0):
    """Get the full extent of an axes, including axes labels, tick labels, and
    titles."""
    # For text objects, we need to draw the figure first, otherwise the extents
    # are undefined.
    ax.figure.canvas.draw()
    items = ax.get_xticklabels() + ax.get_yticklabels()
#    items += [ax, ax.title, ax.xaxis.label, ax.yaxis.label]
    items += [ax, ax.title]
    bbox = Bbox.union([item.get_window_extent() for item in items])

    return bbox.expanded(1.0 + pad, 1.0 + pad)

# Make an example plot with two subplots...
fig = plt.figure()
ax1 = fig.add_subplot(2,1,1)
ax1.plot(range(10), 'b-')

ax2 = fig.add_subplot(2,1,2)
ax2.plot(range(20), 'r^')

# Save the full figure...
fig.savefig('full_figure.png')

# Save just the portion _inside_ the second axis's boundaries
extent = full_extent(ax2).transformed(fig.dpi_scale_trans.inverted())
# Alternatively,
# extent = ax.get_tightbbox(fig.canvas.renderer).transformed(fig.dpi_scale_trans.inverted())
fig.savefig('ax2_figure.png', bbox_inches=extent)

I'd post a pic but I lack the reputation points

Check file size before upload

I created a jQuery version of PhpMyCoder's answer:

$('form').submit(function( e ) {
    if(!($('#file')[0].files[0].size < 10485760 && get_extension($('#file').val()) == 'jpg')) { // 10 MB (this size is in bytes)
        //Prevent default and display error
        alert("File is wrong type or over 10Mb in size!");
        e.preventDefault();
    }
});

function get_extension(filename) {
    return filename.split('.').pop().toLowerCase();
}

SOAP client in .NET - references or examples?

I have done quite a bit of what you're talking about, and SOAP interoperability between platforms has one cardinal rule: CONTRACT FIRST. Do not derive your WSDL from code and then try to generate a client on a different platform. Anything more than "Hello World" type functions will very likely fail to generate code, fail to talk at runtime or (my favorite) fail to properly send or receive all of the data without raising an error.

That said, WSDL is complicated, nasty stuff and I avoid writing it from scratch whenever possible. Here are some guidelines for reliable interop of services (using Web References, WCF, Axis2/Java, WS02, Ruby, Python, whatever):

  • Go ahead and do code-first to create your initial WSDL. Then, delete your code and re-generate the server class(es) from the WSDL. Almost every platform has a tool for this. This will show you what odd habits your particular platform has, and you can begin tweaking the WSDL to be simpler and more straightforward. Tweak, re-gen, repeat. You'll learn a lot this way, and it's portable knowledge.
  • Stick to plain old language classes (POCO, POJO, etc.) for complex types. Do NOT use platform-specific constructs like List<> or DataTable. Even PHP associative arrays will appear to work but fail in ways that are difficult to debug across platforms.
  • Stick to basic data types: bool, int, float, string, date(Time), and arrays. Odds are, the more particular you get about a data type, the less agile you'll be to new requirements over time. You do NOT want to change your WSDL if you can avoid it.
  • One exception to the data types above - give yourself a NameValuePair mechanism of some kind. You wouldn't believe how many times a list of these things will save your bacon in terms of flexibility.
  • Set a real namespace for your WSDL. It's not hard, but you might not believe how many web services I've seen in namespace "http://www.tempuri.org". Also, use a URN ("urn:com-myweb-servicename-v1", not a URL-based namespace ("http://servicename.myweb.com/v1". It's not a website, it's an abstract set of characters that defines a logical grouping. I've probably had a dozen people call me for support and say they went to the "website" and it didn't work.

How to fix "unable to open stdio.h in Turbo C" error?

How to change Visual Studio 2012,2013 or 2015 License Key?

See my UPDATE at the end, before reading the following answer.

I have windows 8 and another pc with windows 8.1

I had License error saying "Prerelease software. License expired".

The only solution that I found which is inspired by the above solutions (Thanks!) was to run process monitor and see the exact registry keys that are accessed when I start the VS2013 which were:

HKCR\Licenses\E79B3F9C-6543-4897-BBA5-5BFB0A02BB5C

like what are mentioned in the previous posts. However the process monitor said that this registry is access denied.

So I opened regedit and found that registry key and I could not open it. It says I have no permission to see it.

SO I had to change its permission:

  1. Right click on the "HKCR\Licenses\E79B3F9C-6543-4897-BBA5-5BFB0A02BB5C" key
  2. Permissions
  3. Add
  4. In "Enter object names to select" I have added my windows user name. Ok.
  5. check on Full control
  6. Advanced
  7. Owner click on "Change"
  8. In "Enter object names to select" I have added my windows user name. Ok.
  9. Ok. Ok. Ok.

I found that this registry key has several sub keys, however you have to restart regedit to see them.

By seeing which other registry keys are access denied in process monitor , I knew that VS2013 will specifically deal with these subkeys which are ACCESS DENIED also: 06181 0bcad

and these subkeys should be changed their permissions as well like above.

After making these permission changes everything worked well.

The same thing has been done to Microsoft visual studio 2010 because an error in the license as well and the solution worked well.

UPDATE : It turned out that starting visual studio as administrator solved this issue without this registry massage. Seems that this happened to my pc after changing the 'required password to login' removed in the user settings. (I wanted to let the pc start running without any password after restart from a crash or anything else). This made a lot of programs not able to write into some folders like temp folders unless I start the application as admin. Even printing from excel would not work, if excel is not started as admin.

When to use cla(), clf() or close() for clearing a plot in matplotlib?

They all do different things, since matplotlib uses a hierarchical order in which a figure window contains a figure which may consist of many axes. Additionally, there are functions from the pyplot interface and there are methods on the Figure class. I will discuss both cases below.

pyplot interface

pyplot is a module that collects a couple of functions that allow matplotlib to be used in a functional manner. I here assume that pyplot has been imported as import matplotlib.pyplot as plt. In this case, there are three different commands that remove stuff:

plt.cla() clears an axes, i.e. the currently active axes in the current figure. It leaves the other axes untouched.

plt.clf() clears the entire current figure with all its axes, but leaves the window opened, such that it may be reused for other plots.

plt.close() closes a window, which will be the current window, if not specified otherwise.

Which functions suits you best depends thus on your use-case.

The close() function furthermore allows one to specify which window should be closed. The argument can either be a number or name given to a window when it was created using figure(number_or_name) or it can be a figure instance fig obtained, i.e., usingfig = figure(). If no argument is given to close(), the currently active window will be closed. Furthermore, there is the syntax close('all'), which closes all figures.

methods of the Figure class

Additionally, the Figure class provides methods for clearing figures. I'll assume in the following that fig is an instance of a Figure:

fig.clf() clears the entire figure. This call is equivalent to plt.clf() only if fig is the current figure.

fig.clear() is a synonym for fig.clf()

Note that even del fig will not close the associated figure window. As far as I know the only way to close a figure window is using plt.close(fig) as described above.

Solutions for INSERT OR UPDATE on SQL Server

In SQL Server 2008 you can use the MERGE statement

jQuery - replace all instances of a character in a string

RegEx is the way to go in most cases.

In some cases, it may be faster to specify more elements or the specific element to perform the replace on:

$(document).ready(function () {
    $('.myclass').each(function () {
        $('img').each(function () {
            $(this).attr('src', $(this).attr('src').replace('_s.jpg', '_n.jpg'));
        })
    })
});

This does the replace once on each string, but it does it using a more specific selector.

Convert comma separated string of ints to int array

This has been asked before. .Net has a built-in ConvertAll function for converting between an array of one type to an array of another type. You can combine this with Split to separate the string to an array of strings

Example function:

 static int[] ToIntArray(this string value, char separator)
 {
     return Array.ConvertAll(value.Split(separator), s=>int.Parse(s));
 }

What reference do I need to use Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel in .NET?

I just had the same problem, but none of these answers helped me. I did find the dll on my pc in the location Mostey noted: (C:\Windows\assembly\GAC_MSIL\Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel\14.0.0.0__71e9bce111e9429c\Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.dll), but this is not the one that was referenced in the project I was trying to get building.

The reference in our project in Visual Studio 2012 was pointing to C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 11.0\Visual Studio Tools for Office\. This location was empty for me, but it worked fine for everyone else. It took a number of tries, but I finally tracked down a working installer. I hope this saves others the same hassle!

How to trigger event in JavaScript?

I searched for firing click, mousedown and mouseup event on mouseover using JavaScript. I found an answer provided by Juan Mendes. For the answer click here.

Click here is the live demo and below is the code:

function fireEvent(node, eventName) {
    // Make sure we use the ownerDocument from the provided node to avoid cross-window problems
    var doc;
    if (node.ownerDocument) {
        doc = node.ownerDocument;
    } else if (node.nodeType == 9) {
        // the node may be the document itself, nodeType 9 = DOCUMENT_NODE
        doc = node;
    } else {
        throw new Error("Invalid node passed to fireEvent: " + node.id);
    }

    if (node.dispatchEvent) {
        // Gecko-style approach (now the standard) takes more work
        var eventClass = "";

        // Different events have different event classes.
        // If this switch statement can't map an eventName to an eventClass,
        // the event firing is going to fail.
        switch (eventName) {
        case "click": // Dispatching of 'click' appears to not work correctly in Safari. Use 'mousedown' or 'mouseup' instead.
        case "mousedown":

        event.initEvent(eventName, bubbles, true); // All events created as bubbling and cancelable.

        event.synthetic = true; // allow detection of synthetic events
        // The second parameter says go ahead with the default action
        node.dispatchEvent(event, true);
    } else if (node.fireEvent) {
        // IE-old school style
        var event = doc.createEventObject();

HTML table: keep the same width for columns

well, why don't you (get rid of sidebar and) squeeze the table so it is without show/hide effect? It looks odd to me now. The table is too robust.
Otherwise I think scunliffe's suggestion should do it. Or if you wish, you can just set the exact width of table and set either percentage or pixel width for table cells.

How to rename with prefix/suffix?

In Bash and zsh you can do this with Brace Expansion. This simply expands a list of items in braces. For example:

# echo {vanilla,chocolate,strawberry}-ice-cream
vanilla-ice-cream chocolate-ice-cream strawberry-ice-cream

So you can do your rename as follows:

mv {,new.}original.filename

Convert JSONArray to String Array

Here is the code :

// XXX satisfies only with this particular string format
        String s = "[{\"name\":\"IMG_20130403_140457.jpg\"},{\"name\":\"IMG_20130403_145006.jpg\"},{\"name\":\"IMG_20130403_145112.jpg\"},{\"name\":\"IMG_20130404_085559.jpg\"},{\"name\":\"IMG_20130404_113700.jpg\"},{\"name\":\"IMG_20130404_113713.jpg\"},{\"name\":\"IMG_20130404_135706.jpg\"},{\"name\":\"IMG_20130404_161501.jpg\"},{\"name\":\"IMG_20130405_082413.jpg\"},{\"name\":\"IMG_20130405_104212.jpg\"},{\"name\":\"IMG_20130405_160524.jpg\"},{\"name\":\"IMG_20130408_082456.jpg\"},{\"name\":\"test.jpg\"}]";
        s = s.replace("[", "").replace("]", "");
        s = s.substring(1, s.length() - 1);
        String[] split = s.split("[}][,][{]");
        for (String string : split) {
            System.out.println(string);
        }

Representational state transfer (REST) and Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP)

I like Brian R. Bondy's answer. I just wanted to add that Wikipedia provides a clear description of REST. The article distinguishes it from SOAP.

REST is an exchange of state information, done as simply as possible.

SOAP is a message protocol that uses XML.

One of the main reasons that many people have moved from SOAP to REST is that the WS-* (called WS splat) standards associated with SOAP based web services are EXTREMELY complicated. See wikipedia for a list of the specifications. Each of these specifications is very complicated.

EDIT: for some reason the links are not displaying correctly. REST = http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/REST

WS-* = http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WS-*

c# - approach for saving user settings in a WPF application?

Update: Nowadays I would use JSON.

I also prefer to go with serialization to file. XML files fits mostly all requirements. You can use the ApplicationSettings build in but those have some restrictions and a defined but (for me) very strange behavior where they stored. I used them a lot and they work. But if you want to have full control how and where they stored I use another approach.

  1. Make a class Somewhere with all your settings. I named it MySettings
  2. Implement Save and Read for persistence
  3. Use them in you application-code

Advantages:

  • Very Simple approach.
  • One Class for Settings. Load. Save.
  • All your Settings are type safe.
  • You can simplify or extend the logic to your needs (Versioning, many Profiles per User, etc.)
  • It works very well in any case (Database, WinForms, WPF, Service, etc...)
  • You can define where to store the XML files.
  • You can find them and manipulate them either by code or manual
  • It works for any deployment method I can imagine.

Disadvantages: - You have to think about where to store your settings files. (But you can just use your installation folder)

Here is a simple example (not tested)-

public class MySettings
{
    public string Setting1 { get; set; }
    public List<string> Setting2 { get; set; }

    public void Save(string filename)
    {
        using (StreamWriter sw = new StreamWriter(filename))
        {
            XmlSerializer xmls = new XmlSerializer(typeof(MySettings));
            xmls.Serialize(sw, this);
        }
    }
    public MySettings Read(string filename)
    {
        using (StreamReader sw = new StreamReader(filename))
        {
            XmlSerializer xmls = new XmlSerializer(typeof(MySettings));
            return xmls.Deserialize(sw) as MySettings;
        }
    }
}

And here is how to use it. It's possible to load default values or override them with the user's settings by just checking if user settings exist:

public class MyApplicationLogic
{
    public const string UserSettingsFilename = "settings.xml";
    public string _DefaultSettingspath =
        Assembly.GetEntryAssembly().Location +
        "\\Settings\\" + UserSettingsFilename;

    public string _UserSettingsPath =
        Assembly.GetEntryAssembly().Location +
        "\\Settings\\UserSettings\\" +
        UserSettingsFilename;

    public MyApplicationLogic()
    {
        // if default settings exist
        if (File.Exists(_UserSettingsPath))
            this.Settings = Settings.Read(_UserSettingsPath);
        else
            this.Settings = Settings.Read(_DefaultSettingspath);
    }
    public MySettings Settings { get; private set; }

    public void SaveUserSettings()
    {
        Settings.Save(_UserSettingsPath);
    }
}

maybe someone get's inspired by this approach. This is how I do it now for many years and I'm quite happy with that.

What does file:///android_asset/www/index.html mean?

The URI "file:///android_asset/" points to YourProject/app/src/main/assets/.

Note: android_asset/ uses the singular (asset) and src/main/assets uses the plural (assets).

Suppose you have a file YourProject/app/src/main/assets/web_thing.html that you would like to display in a WebView. You can refer to it like this:

WebView webViewer = (WebView) findViewById(R.id.webViewer);
webView.loadUrl("file:///android_asset/web_thing.html");

The snippet above could be located in your Activity class, possibly in the onCreate method.

Here is a guide to the overall directory structure of an android project, that helped me figure out this answer.

VBA shorthand for x=x+1?

Sadly there are no operation-assignment operators in VBA.

(Addition-assignment += are available in VB.Net)

Pointless workaround;

Sub Inc(ByRef i As Integer)
   i = i + 1
End Sub
...
Static value As Integer
inc value
inc value

Convenient C++ struct initialisation

Many compilers' C++ frontends (including GCC and clang) understand C initializer syntax. If you can, simply use that method.

Export and Import all MySQL databases at one time

Based on these answers I've made script which backups all databases into separate files, but then compress them into one archive with date as name.

This will not ask for password, can be used in cron. To store password in .my.cnf check this answer https://serverfault.com/a/143587/62749

Made also with comments for those who are not very familiar with bash scripts.

#!/bin/bash

# This script will backup all mysql databases into
# compressed file named after date, ie: /var/backup/mysql/2016-07-13.tar.bz2

# Setup variables used later

# Create date suffix with "F"ull date format
suffix=$(date +%F)
# Retrieve all database names except information schemas. Use sudo here to skip root password.
dbs=$(sudo mysql --defaults-extra-file=/root/.my.cnf --batch --skip-column-names -e "SHOW DATABASES;" | grep -E -v "(information|performance)_schema")
# Create temporary directory with "-d" option
tmp=$(mktemp -d)
# Set output dir here. /var/backups/ is used by system,
# so intentionally used /var/backup/ for user backups.
outDir="/var/backup/mysql"
# Create output file name
out="$outDir/$suffix.tar.bz2"

# Actual script

# Check if output directory exists
if [ ! -d "$outDir" ];then
  # Create directory with parent ("-p" option) directories
  sudo mkdir -p "$outDir"
fi

# Loop through all databases
for db in $dbs; do
  # Dump database to temporary directory with file name same as database name + sql suffix
  sudo mysqldump --defaults-extra-file=/root/.my.cnf --databases "$db" > "$tmp/$db.sql"
done

# Go to tmp dir
cd $tmp

# Compress all dumps with bz2, discard any output to /dev/null
sudo tar -jcf "$out" * > "/dev/null"

# Cleanup
cd "/tmp/"
sudo rm -rf "$tmp"

Array and string offset access syntax with curly braces is deprecated

It's really simple to fix the issue, however keep in mind that you should fork and commit your changes for each library you are using in their repositories to help others as well.

Let's say you have something like this in your code:

$str = "test";
echo($str{0});

since PHP 7.4 curly braces method to get individual characters inside a string has been deprecated, so change the above syntax into this:

$str = "test";
echo($str[0]);

Fixing the code in the question will look something like this:

public function getRecordID(string $zoneID, string $type = '', string $name = ''): string
{
    $records = $this->listRecords($zoneID, $type, $name);
    if (isset($records->result[0]->id)) {
        return $records->result[0]->id;
    }
    return false;
}

document.getElementById replacement in angular4 / typescript?

You can tag your DOM element using #someTag, then get it with @ViewChild('someTag').

See complete example:

import {AfterViewInit, Component, ElementRef, ViewChild} from '@angular/core';

@Component({
    selector: 'app',
    template: `
        <div #myDiv>Some text</div>
    `,
})
export class AppComponent implements AfterViewInit {
    @ViewChild('myDiv') myDiv: ElementRef;

    ngAfterViewInit() {
        console.log(this.myDiv.nativeElement.innerHTML);
    }
}

console.log will print Some text.

How can I get screen resolution in java?

Here's some functional code (Java 8) which returns the x position of the right most edge of the right most screen. If no screens are found, then it returns 0.

  GraphicsDevice devices[];

  devices = GraphicsEnvironment.
     getLocalGraphicsEnvironment().
     getScreenDevices();

  return Stream.
     of(devices).
     map(GraphicsDevice::getDefaultConfiguration).
     map(GraphicsConfiguration::getBounds).
     mapToInt(bounds -> bounds.x + bounds.width).
     max().
     orElse(0);

Here are links to the JavaDoc.

GraphicsEnvironment.getLocalGraphicsEnvironment()
GraphicsEnvironment.getScreenDevices()
GraphicsDevice.getDefaultConfiguration()
GraphicsConfiguration.getBounds()

When do you use map vs flatMap in RxJava?

Flatmap maps observables to observables. Map maps items to items.

Flatmap is more flexible but Map is more lightweight and direct, so it kind of depends on your usecase.

If you are doing ANYTHING async (including switching threads), you should be using Flatmap, as Map will not check if the consumer is disposed (part of the lightweight-ness)

SCP Permission denied (publickey). on EC2 only when using -r flag on directories

The -i flag specifies the private key (.pem file) to use. If you don't specify that flag (as in your first command) it will use your default ssh key (usually under ~/.ssh/).

So in your first command, you are actually asking scp to upload the .pem file itself using your default ssh key. I don't think that is what you want.

Try instead with:

scp -r -i /Applications/XAMPP/htdocs/keypairfile.pem uploads/* ec2-user@publicdns:/var/www/html/uploads

Windows equivalent of the 'tail' command

you can also use Git bash where head and tail are emulated as well

MVC Return Partial View as JSON

Url.Action("Evil", model)

will generate a get query string but your ajax method is post and it will throw error status of 500(Internal Server Error). – Fereydoon Barikzehy Feb 14 at 9:51

Just Add "JsonRequestBehavior.AllowGet" on your Json object.

SQL Query - Concatenating Results into One String

Here is another real life example that works fine at least with 2008 release (and later).

This is the original query which uses simple max() to get at least one of the values:

SELECT option_name, Field_M3_name, max(Option_value) AS "Option value", max(Sorting) AS "Sorted"
FROM Value_list group by Option_name, Field_M3_name
ORDER BY option_name, Field_M3_name

Improved version, where the main improvement is that we show all values comma separated:

SELECT from1.keys, from1.option_name, from1.Field_M3_name,

 Stuff((SELECT DISTINCT ', ' + [Option_value] FROM Value_list from2
  WHERE COALESCE(from2.Option_name,'') + '|' + COALESCE(from2.Field_M3_name,'') = from1.keys FOR XML PATH(''),TYPE)
  .value('text()[1]','nvarchar(max)'),1,2,N'') AS "Option values",

 Stuff((SELECT DISTINCT ', ' + CAST([Sorting] AS VARCHAR) FROM Value_list from2
  WHERE COALESCE(from2.Option_name,'') + '|' + COALESCE(from2.Field_M3_name,'') = from1.keys FOR XML PATH(''),TYPE)
  .value('text()[1]','nvarchar(max)'),1,2,N'') AS "Sorting"

FROM ((SELECT DISTINCT COALESCE(Option_name,'') + '|' + COALESCE(Field_M3_name,'') AS keys, Option_name, Field_M3_name FROM Value_list)
-- WHERE
) from1
ORDER BY keys

Note that we have solved all possible NULL case issues that I can think of and also we fixed an error that we got for numeric values (field Sorting).
