Bizarre Error in Chrome Developer Console - Failed to load resource: net::ERR_CACHE_MISS

See if you can recreate the issue in an Incognito tab. If you find that the problem no longer occurs then I would recommend you go through your extensions, perhaps disabling them one at a time. This is commonly the cause as touched on by Nikola

How to wait until an element exists?

You can try this:

const wait_until_element_appear = setInterval(() => {
    if ($(element).length !== 0) {
        // some code
        clearInterval(wait_until_element_appear);
    }
}, 0);

This solution works very good for me

font-family is inherit. How to find out the font-family in chrome developer pane?

I think op wants to know what the font that is used on a webpage is, and hoped that info might be findable in the 'inspect' pane.

Try adding the Whatfont Chrome extension.

How do I directly modify a Google Chrome Extension File? (.CRX)

If you have installed the Portable version of Chrome, or have it installed in a custom directory - the extensions won't be available in directory referenced in above answers.

Try right-clicking on Chrome's shortcut & Check the "Target" directory. From there, navigate to one directory above and you should be able to see the User Data folder and then can use the answers mentioned above

Background color not showing in print preview

Chrome will not render background-color, or several other styles, when printing if the background graphics setting is turned off.

This has nothing to do with css, @media, or specificity. You can probably hack your way around it, but the easiest way to get chrome to show the background-color and other graphics is to properly check this checkbox under More Settings.

Install Chrome extension form outside the Chrome Web Store

For Windows, you can also whitelist your extension through Windows policies. The full steps are details in this answer, but there are quicker steps:

  1. Create the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Google\Chrome\ExtensionInstallWhitelist.
  2. For each extension you want to whitelist, add a string value whose name should be a sequence number (starting at 1) and value is the extension ID.

For instance, in order to whitelist 2 extensions with ID aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa and bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbb, create a string value with name 1 and value aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, and a second value with name 2 and value bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbb. This can be sum up by this registry file:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Google\Chrome]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Google\Chrome\ExtensionInstallWhitelist]
"1"="aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa"
"2"="bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbb"

EDIT: actually, Chromium docs also indicate how to do it for other OS.

maxlength ignored for input type="number" in Chrome

I have two ways for you do that

First: Use type="tel", it'll work like type="number" in mobile, and accept maxlength:

<input type="tel" />

Second: Use a little bit of JavaScript:

<!-- maxlength="2" -->
<input type="tel" onKeyDown="if(this.value.length==2 && event.keyCode!=8) return false;" />

How to use Chrome's network debugger with redirects

Another great solution to debug the Network calls before redirecting to other pages is to select the beforeunload event break point

This way you assure to break the flow right before it redirecting it to another page, this way all network calls, network data and console logs are still there.

This solution is best when you want to check what is the response of the calls

Chrome beforeunload event break point

P.S: You can also use XHR break points if you want to stop right before a specific call or any call (see image example) XHR break point

Why is Chrome showing a "Please Fill Out this Field" tooltip on empty fields?

If you have an html form containing one or more fields with "required" attributes, Chrome (on last versions) will validate these fields before submitting the form and, if they are not filled, some tooltips will be shown to the users to help them getting the form submitted (I.e. "please fill out this field").

To avoid this browser built-in validation in forms you can use "novalidate" attribute on your form tag. This form won't be validated by browser:

<form id="form-id" novalidate>

    <input id="input-id" type="text" required>

    <input id="submit-button" type="submit">

</form>

How can I remove the "No file chosen" tooltip from a file input in Chrome?

For me, I just wanted the text to be invisible and still use the native browser button.

input[type='file'] {
  color: transparent;
}

I like all of undefined's suggestions but I had a different use case, hope this helps someone in the same situation.

How to change the locale in chrome browser

How to use jQuery in chrome extension?

Apart from the solutions already mentioned, you can also download jquery.min.js locally and then use it -

For downloading -

wget "https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/3.1.0/jquery.min.js"

manifest.json -

"content_scripts": [
   {
    "js": ["/path/to/jquery.min.js", ...]
   }
],

in html -

<script src="/path/to/jquery.min.js"></script>

Reference - https://developer.chrome.com/extensions/contentSecurityPolicy

Chrome refuses to execute an AJAX script due to wrong MIME type

if application is hosted on IIS, make sure Static Content is installed. Control Panel > Programs > Turn Windows features on or off > Internet Information Services > World Wide Web Services > Common HTTP Features > Static Content.

I faced this problem when trying to run an existing application on a new IIS 10.0 installation

Opening Chrome From Command Line

Use the start command as follows.

start "C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" http://www.google.com

It will be better to close chrome instances before you open a new one. You can do that as follows:

taskkill /IM chrome.exe
start "C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" http://www.google.com

That'll work for you.

Why does this "Slow network detected..." log appear in Chrome?

I just managed to make the filter regex work: /^((?!Fallback\sfont).)*$/.

Add it to the filter field just above the console and it'll hide all messages containing Fallback font.

You can make it more specific if you want.

Google Chrome default opening position and size

Maybe a little late, but I found an easier way to set the defaults! You have to right-click on the right of your tab and choose "size", then click on your window, and it should keep it as the default size.

In Chrome 55, prevent showing Download button for HTML 5 video

Google has added a new feature since the last answer was posted here. You can now add the controlList attribute as shown here:

<video width="512" height="380" controls controlsList="nodownload">
    <source data-src="mov_bbb.ogg" type="video/mp4">
</video>

You can find all options of the controllist attribute here:

Open Google Chrome from VBA/Excel

Worked here too:

  Dim chromePath As String

  chromePath = """C:\Program Files\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe"""

  Shell (chromePath & " -url http:google.ca")

End Sub

Click event on select option element in chrome

The easy way to change the select, and update it is this.

// BY id
$('#select_element_selector').val('value').change();

another example:

//By tag
$('[name=selectxD]').val('value').change();

another example:

$("#select_element_selector").val('value').trigger('chosen:updated');

What's the difference between console.dir and console.log?

I think Firebug does it differently than Chrome's dev tools. It looks like Firebug gives you a stringified version of the object while console.dir gives you an expandable object. Both give you the expandable object in Chrome, and I think that's where the confusion might come from. Or it's just a bug in Chrome.

In Chrome, both do the same thing. Expanding on your test, I have noticed that Chrome gets the current value of the object when you expand it.

> o = { foo: 1 }
> console.log(o)
Expand now, o.foo = 1
> o.foo = 2
o.foo is still displayed as 1 from previous lines

> o = { foo: 1 }
> console.log(o)
> o.foo = 2
Expand now, o.foo = 2

You can use the following to get a stringified version of an object if that's what you want to see. This will show you what the object is at the time this line is called, not when you expand it.

console.log(JSON.stringify(o));

Chrome - ERR_CACHE_MISS

Yes, this is a current issue in Chrome. There is an issue report here.

The fix will appear in 40.x.y.z versions.

Until then? I don't think you can resolve the issue yourself. But you can ignore it. The shown error is only related to the dev tools and does not influence the behavior of your website. If you have any other problems they are not related to this error.

Options for embedding Chromium instead of IE WebBrowser control with WPF/C#

I have used Awesomium.NET. Although I don't like the fact that it's not open-source, and also the fact that it uses a pretty old Webkit rendering engine, it is really easy to use. That's about the only endorsement I can give it.

Export data from Chrome developer tool

Right-click and export as HAR, then view it using Jan Odvarko's HAR Viewer

This helps in visualising the already captured HAR logs.

Disabling Chrome Autofill

Previously entered values cached by chrome is displayed as dropdown select list.This can be disabled by autocomplete=off , explicitly saved address in advanced settings of chrome gives autofill popup when an address field gets focus.This can be disabled by autocomplete="false".But it will allow chrome to display cached values in dropdown.

On an input html field following will switch off both.

Role="presentation" & autocomplete="off"

While selecting input fields for address autofill Chrome ignores those input fields which don't have preceding label html element.

To ensure chrome parser ignores an input field for autofill address popup a hidden button or image control can be added between label and textbox. This will break chrome parsing sequence of label -input pair creation for autofill. Checkboxes are ignored while parsing for address fields

Chrome also considers "for" attribute on label element. It can be used to break parsing sequence of chrome.

Google Chrome "window.open" workaround?

This worked for me:

newwindow = window.open(url, "_blank", "resizable=yes, scrollbars=yes, titlebar=yes, width=800, height=900, top=10, left=10");

Chrome: Uncaught SyntaxError: Unexpected end of input

My problem was with Google Chrome cache. I tested this by running my web application on Firefox and I didn't got that error there. So then I decided trying emptying cache of Google Chrome and it worked.

Automatically open Chrome developer tools when new tab/new window is opened

UPDATE 2:

See this answer . - 2019-11-05

You can also now have it auto-open Developer Tools in Pop-ups if they were open where you opened them from. For example, if you do not have Dev Tools open and you get a popup, it won't open with Dev Tools. But if you Have Dev Tools Open and then you click something, the popup will have Dev-Tools Automatically opened.

UPDATE:

Time has changed, you can now use --auto-open-devtools-for-tabs as in this answer – Wouter Huysentruit May 18 at 11:08

OP:

I played around with the startup string for Chrome on execute, but couldn't get it to persist to new tabs.
I also thought about a defined PATH method that you could invoke from prompt. This is possible with the SendKeys command, but again, only on a new instance. And DevTools doesn't persist to new tabs.

Browsing the Google Product Forums, there doesn't seem to be a built-in way to do this in Chrome. You'll have to use a keystroke solution or F12 as mentioned above.

I recommended it as a feature. I know I'm not the first either.

HTML favicon won't show on google chrome

1) Clear your chache. http://support.google.com/chrome/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=95582 And test another browser, lets say safari. How did you import the favicon?

2) How you should add it:

Normal favicon:

<link rel="shortcut icon" href="favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon" />

PNG/GIF favicon:

<link rel="icon" type="image/gif" href="favicon.gif" />
<link rel="icon" type="image/png" href="favicon.png" />

3) Another thing could be the problem that chrome can't display favicons, if it's local (not uploaded to a webserver).

4) Try to rename it from favicon.{whatever} to {yourfaviconname}.{whatever} but I would suggest you to still have the normal favicon. This has solved my issue on IE.

session not created: This version of ChromeDriver only supports Chrome version 74 error with ChromeDriver Chrome using Selenium

The same problem happened to me today.

My solution:

Download the latest stable release of chromedriver: https://sites.google.com/a/chromium.org/chromedriver/

Update the chrome driver on your Selenium folder. This is a bit hard, because is in a hidden folder on your PC called AppData. Here is how I did it in my computer (Windows 7):

C: > users > your user > \AppData (you need to write this in the folder path box, since it is a hidden folder) > Local (this is the folder name in portuguese, maybe it will have a different name for you) > SeleniumBasic

There you will find the chromedriver application. Just rename it (in case it does not work, you want to have the older version) and than paste the newest release.

How to fix 'Unchecked runtime.lastError: The message port closed before a response was received' chrome issue?

Make sure you are using the correct syntax.

We should use the sendMessage() method after listening it.

Here is a simple example of contentScript.js It sendRequest to app.js.

contentScript.js

chrome.extension.sendRequest({
    title: 'giveSomeTitle', params: paramsToSend
  }, function(result) {
    // Do Some action
});

app.js

chrome.extension.onRequest.addListener( function(message, sender,
 sendResponse) {
  if(message.title === 'giveSomeTitle'){
    // Do some action with message.params
    sendResponse(true);
  }
});

websocket closing connection automatically

In answer to your third question: your client wants to be able to cope with temporary network problems anyway, e.g. let's say the user closes their laptop between meetings which hibernates it, or the network simply goes down temporarily.

The solution is to listen to onclose events on the web socket client and when they occur, set a client side timeout to re-open the connection, say in a second:

function setupWebSocket(){
    this.ws = new WebSocket('wss://host:port/path');
    this.ws.onerror = ...;
    this.ws.onopen = ...;
    this.ws.onmessage = ...;
    this.ws.onclose = function(){
        setTimeout(setupWebSocket, 1000);
    };
}

How to change the color of header bar and address bar in newest Chrome version on Lollipop?

Found the solution after some searching.

You need to add a <meta> tag in your <head> containing name="theme-color", with your HEX code as the content value. For example:

<meta name="theme-color" content="#999999" />

Update:

If the android device has native dark-mode enabled, then this meta tag is ignored.

Chrome for Android does not use the color on devices with native dark-mode enabled.

Simulate limited bandwidth from within Chrome?

Original article: https://helpdeskgeek.com/networking/simulate-slow-internet-connection-testing/

Simulate Slow Connection using Chrome Go ahead and install Chrome if you don’t already have it installed on your system. Once you do, open a new tab and then press CTRL + SHIFT + I to open the developer tools window or click on the hamburger icon, then More tools and then Developer tools.

enter image description here

This will bring up the Developer Tools window, which will probably be docked on the right side of the screen. I prefer it docked at the bottom of the screen since you can see more data. To do this, click on the three vertical dots and then click on the middle dock position.

enter image description here

Now go ahead and click on the Network tab. On the right, you should see a label called No Throttling.

enter image description here

If you click on that, you’ll get a dropdown list of a pre-configured speed that you can use to simulate a slow connection.

enter image description here

The choices range from Offline to WiFi and the numbers are shown as Latency, Download, Upload. The slowest is GPRS followed by Regular 2G, then Good 2G, then Regular 3G, Good 3G, Regular 4G, DSL and then WiFi. Pick one of the options and then reload the page you are on or type in another URL in the address bar. Just make sure you are in the same tab where the developer tools are being displayed. The throttling only works for the tab you have it enabled for.

If you want to use your own specific values, you can click the Add button under Custom. Click on the Add Custom Profile button to add a new profile.

enter image description here

When using GPRS, it took www.google.com a whopping 16 seconds to load! Overall, this is a great tool that is built right into Chrome that you can use for testing your website load time on slower connections. If you have any questions, feel free to comment. Enjoy!

Is there any way to debug chrome in any IOS device

If you don't need full debugging support, you can now view JavaScript console logs directly within Chrome for iOS at chrome://inspect.

Disable-web-security in Chrome 48+

As of the date of this answer (March 2020) there is a plugin for chrome called CORS unblock that allows you to skip that browser policy. The 'same origin policy' is an important security feature of browsers. Please only install this plugin for development or testing purposes. Do not promote its installation in end client browsers because you compromise the security of users and the chrome community will be forced to remove this plugin from the store.

Javascript Debugging line by line using Google Chrome

Assuming you're running on a Windows machine...

  1. Hit the F12 key
  2. Select the Scripts, or Sources, tab in the developer tools
  3. Click the little folder icon in the top level
  4. Select your JavaScript file
  5. Add a breakpoint by clicking on the line number on the left (adds a little blue marker)
  6. Execute your JavaScript

Then during execution debugging you can do a handful of stepping motions...

  • F8 Continue: Will continue until the next breakpoint
  • F10 Step over: Steps over next function call (won't enter the library)
  • F11 Step into: Steps into the next function call (will enter the library)
  • Shift + F11 Step out: Steps out of the current function

Update

After reading your updated post; to debug your code I would recommend temporarily using the jQuery Development Source Code. Although this doesn't directly solve your problem, it will allow you to debug more easily. For what you're trying to achieve I believe you'll need to step-in to the library, so hopefully the production code should help you decipher what's happening.

Is it possible to change javascript variable values while debugging in Google Chrome?

I don't know why chrome team don't allow this silly feature ... but the only way I could change variable values with success is to modify the script directly in the chrome editor under "Sources" Tab (this changes the behavior of your script until you refresh the page), but that changes will lost when refresh, so be carefull.

Chrome desktop notification example

I made this simple Notification wrapper. It works on Chrome, Safari and Firefox.

Probably on Opera, IE and Edge as well but I haven't tested it yet.

Just get the notify.js file from here https://github.com/gravmatt/js-notify and put it into your page.

Get it on Bower

$ bower install js-notify

This is how it works:

notify('title', {
    body: 'Notification Text',
    icon: 'path/to/image.png',
    onclick: function(e) {}, // e -> Notification object
    onclose: function(e) {},
    ondenied: function(e) {}
  });

You have to set the title but the json object as the second argument is optional.

Chrome Extension: Make it run every page load

You can put your script into a content-script, see

onclick="javascript:history.go(-1)" not working in Chrome

Try this dude,

<button onclick="goBack()">Go Back 2 Pages</button>
<script>
  function goBack() {
    window.history.go(-2);
  }
</script>

Using "word-wrap: break-word" within a table

table-layout: fixed will get force the cells to fit the table (and not the other way around), e.g.:

<table style="border: 1px solid black; width: 100%; word-wrap:break-word;
              table-layout: fixed;">
  <tr>
    <td>
        aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
        bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbb
    </td>
  </tr>
</table>

Edit and replay XHR chrome/firefox etc?

There are a few ways to do this, as mentioned above, but in my experience the best way to manipulate an XHR request and resend is to use chrome dev tools to copy the request as cURL request (right click on the request in the network tab) and to simply import into the Postman app (giant import button in the top left).

How to include JavaScript file or library in Chrome console?

In the modern browsers you can use the fetch to download resource (Mozilla docs) and then eval to execute it.

For example to download Angular1 you need to type:

fetch('https://cdnjs.cloudflare.com/ajax/libs/angular.js/1.5.8/angular.min.js')
    .then(response => response.text())
    .then(text => eval(text))
    .then(() => { /* now you can use your library */ })

"Invalid form control" only in Google Chrome

$("...").attr("required"); and $("...").removeAttr("required");

didn't work for me until I putted all my jQuery code between that:

$(document).ready(function() {
    //jQuery code goes here
});

Chrome hangs after certain amount of data transfered - waiting for available socket

Our first thought is that the site is down or the like, but the truth is that this is not the problem or disability. Nor is it a problem because a simple connection when tested under Firefox, Opera or services Explorer open as normal.

The error in Chrome displays a sign that says "This site is not available" and clarification with the legend "Error 15 (net :: ERR_SOCKET_NOT_CONNECTED): Unknown error". The error is quite usual in Google Chrome, more precisely in its updates, and its workaround is to restart the computer.

As partial solutions are not much we offer a tutorial for you solve the fault in less than a minute. To avoid this problem and ensure that services are normally open in Google Chrome should insert the following into the address bar: chrome: // net-internals (then give "Enter"). They then have to go to the "Socket" in the left menu and choose "Flush Socket Pools" (look at the following screenshots to guide http://www.fixotip.com/how-to-fix-error-waiting-for-available-sockets-in-google-chrome/) This has the problem solved and no longer will experience problems accessing Gmail, Google or any of the services of the Mountain View giant. I hope you found it useful and share the tutorial with whom they need or social networks: Facebook, Twitter or Google+.

Is there a way to create and run javascript in Chrome?

You need an HTML page to load a JS file.

How to Enable ActiveX in Chrome?

anyone who says activex is less secure then NPAPI is crazy. They both allow the exact same access. Yes I've written both. The only reason people think activeX is insecure is because 10+ years ago IE had default settings that allowed a remote site to auto download the plugin.

Resource interpreted as Document but transferred with MIME type application/zip

I had this issue in an ASP web site project. Adding a "Content-Length" header caused downloads to start working again in Chrome.

Disable Chrome strict MIME type checking

In my case, I turned off X-Content-Type-Options on nginx then works fine. But make sure this declines your security level a little. Would be a temporally fix.

# Not work
add_header X-Content-Type-Options nosniff;
# OK (comment out)
#add_header X-Content-Type-Options nosniff;

It'll be the same for apache.

<IfModule mod_headers.c>
  #Header set X-Content-Type-Options nosniff
</IfModule>

Does mobile Google Chrome support browser extensions?

Some extensions like blocksite use the accessibility service API to deploy extension like features to Chrome on Android. Might be worth a look through the play store. Otherwise, Firefox is your best bet, though many extensions don't work on mobile for some reason.

Checkbox Check Event Listener

Since I don't see the jQuery tag in the OP, here is a javascript only option :

document.addEventListener("DOMContentLoaded", function (event) {
    var _selector = document.querySelector('input[name=myCheckbox]');
    _selector.addEventListener('change', function (event) {
        if (_selector.checked) {
            // do something if checked
        } else {
            // do something else otherwise
        }
    });
});

Where does Chrome store cookies?

On Windows the path is:

C:\Users\<current_user>\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\<Profile 1>\Cookies(Type:File)

Chrome doesn't store each cookies in separate text file. It stores all of the cookies together in a single file in the profile folder. That file is not readable.

window.open with target "_blank" in Chrome

"_blank" is not guaranteed to be a new tab or window. It's implemented differently per-browser.

You can, however, put anything into target. I usually just say "_tab", and every browser I know of just opens it in a new tab.

Be aware that it means it's a named target, so if you try to open 2 URLs, they will use the same tab.

How to get Chrome to allow mixed content?

The shield icon that is being mentioned was not in the sidebar for me either, however I solved it doing the following:

Find the shield icon located in the far right of the URL input bar,

Once clicked, the following popup should appear wherein you can click Load unsafe scripts,

That should result in a page refresh and the scripts should start working. What used to be an error,

is now merely a warning,

OS: Windows 10

Chrome Version: 76.0.3809.132 (Official Build) (64-bit)

Edit #1

On version 66.0.3359.117, the shield icon is still available:

Notice how the popup design has changed, so this is Chrome on version 66.0.3359.117.

Note: The shield icon will only appear when you try to load insecure content (content from http) while on https.

How to display alt text for an image in chrome

Yes it's an issue in webkit and also reported in chromium: http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=773 It's there since 2008... and still not fixed!!

I'm using a piece of javacsript and jQuery to make my way around this.

function showAlt(){$(this).replaceWith(this.alt)};
function addShowAlt(selector){$(selector).error(showAlt).attr("src", $(selector).src)};
addShowAlt("img");

If you only want one some images:

addShowAlt("#myImgID");

How to force Chrome's script debugger to reload javascript?

If you are making local changes to a javascript in the Developer Tools, you need to make sure that you turn OFF those changes before reloading the page.

In the Sources tab, with your script open, right-click in your script and click the "Local Modifications" option from the context menu. That brings up the list of scripts you've saved modifications to. If you see it in that window, Developer Tools will always keep your local copy rather than refreshing it from the server. Click the "revert" button, then refresh again, and you should get the fresh copy.

HTML 5 input type="number" element for floating point numbers on Chrome

Try <input type="number" step="any" />

It won't have validation problems and the arrows will have step of "1"

Constraint validation: When the element has an allowed value step, and the result of applying the algorithm to convert a string to a number to the string given by the element's value is a number, and that number subtracted from the step base is not an integral multiple of the allowed value step, the element is suffering from a step mismatch.

The following range control only accepts values in the range 0..1, and allows 256 steps in that range:

<input name=opacity type=range min=0 max=1 step=0.00392156863>

The following control allows any time in the day to be selected, with any accuracy (e.g. thousandth-of-a-second accuracy or more):

<input name=favtime type=time step=any>

Normally, time controls are limited to an accuracy of one minute.

How to force open links in Chrome not download them?

To make certain file types OPEN on your computer, instead of Chrome Downloading...

You have to download the file type once, then right after that download, look at the status bar at the bottom of the browser. Click the arrow next to that file and choose "always open files of this type". DONE.

Now the file type will always OPEN using your default program.

To reset this feature, go to Settings / Advance Settings and under the "Download.." section, there's a button to reset 'all' Auto Downloads

Hope this helps.. :-)

How to configure Chrome's Java plugin so it uses an existing JDK in the machine

I'm on Windows 7 64 bit and couldn't understand if I can manually enable JRE8 64 bit for Chrome. Turned out that my problem was that Java plugin DLL is 64 bit which wouldn't work in 32 bit Chrome. Therefore you need to install x86 version of JRE. Below are Windows registry settings you need to create

How do you use window.postMessage across domains?

Probably you try to send your data from mydomain.com to www.mydomain.com or reverse, NOTE you missed "www". http://mydomain.com and http://www.mydomain.com are different domains to javascript.

Increasing Google Chrome's max-connections-per-server limit to more than 6

I don't know that you can do it in Chrome outside of Windows -- some Googling shows that Chrome (and therefore possibly Chromium) might respond well to a certain registry hack.

However, if you're just looking for a simple solution without modifying your code base, have you considered Firefox? In the about:config you can search for "network.http.max" and there are a few values in there that are definitely worth looking at.

Also, for a device that will not be moving (i.e. it is mounted in a fixed location) you should consider not using Wi-Fi (even a Home-Plug would be a step up as far as latency / stability / dropped connections go).

SameSite warning Chrome 77

This console warning is not an error or an actual problem — Chrome is just spreading the word about this new standard to increase developer adoption.

It has nothing to do with your code. It is something their web servers will have to support.

Release date for a fix is February 4, 2020 per: https://www.chromium.org/updates/same-site

February, 2020: Enforcement rollout for Chrome 80 Stable: The SameSite-by-default and SameSite=None-requires-Secure behaviors will begin rolling out to Chrome 80 Stable for an initial limited population starting the week of February 17, 2020, excluding the US President’s Day holiday on Monday. We will be closely monitoring and evaluating ecosystem impact from this initial limited phase through gradually increasing rollouts.

For the full Chrome release schedule, see here.

I solved same problem by adding in response header

response.setHeader("Set-Cookie", "HttpOnly;Secure;SameSite=Strict");

SameSite prevents the browser from sending the cookie along with cross-site requests. The main goal is mitigating the risk of cross-origin information leakage. It also provides some protection against cross-site request forgery attacks. Possible values for the flag are Lax or Strict.

SameSite cookies explained here

Please refer this before applying any option.

Hope this helps you.

Failed to execute 'btoa' on 'Window': The string to be encoded contains characters outside of the Latin1 range.

As an complement to Stefan Steiger answer: (as it doesn't look nice as a comment)

Extending String prototype:

String.prototype.b64encode = function() {
    return btoa(unescape(encodeURIComponent(this)));
};
String.prototype.b64decode = function() {
    return decodeURIComponent(escape(atob(this)));
};

Usage:

var str = "äöüÄÖÜçéèñ";
var encoded = str.b64encode();
console.log( encoded.b64decode() );

NOTE:

As stated in the comments, using unescape is not recommended as it may be removed in the future:

Warning: Although unescape() is not strictly deprecated (as in "removed from the Web standards"), it is defined in Annex B of the ECMA-262 standard, whose introduction states: … All of the language features and behaviours specified in this annex have one or more undesirable characteristics and in the absence of legacy usage would be removed from this specification.

Note: Do not use unescape to decode URIs, use decodeURI or decodeURIComponent instead.

Resource interpreted as stylesheet but transferred with MIME type text/html (seems not related with web server)

I came across the same issue with a .NET application, a CMS open-source called MojoPortal. In one of my themes and skin for a particular site, when browsing or testing it would grind and slow down like it was choking.

My issue was not of the "type" attribute for the CSS but it was "that other thing". My exact change was in the Web.Config. I changed all the values to FALSE for MinifyCSS, CacheCssOnserver, and CacheCSSinBrowser.

Once that was set the web site was speedy once again in production.

css transform, jagged edges in chrome

You might be able to mask the jagging using blurred box-shadows. Using -webkit-box-shadow instead of box-shadow will make sure it doesn't affect non-webkit browsers. You might want to check Safari and the mobile webkit browsers though.

The result is somewhat better, but still a lot less good then with the other browsers:

with box shadow (underside)

Failed to load resource under Chrome

If the images are generated via an ASP Response.Write(), make sure you don't call Response.Close();. Chrome doesn't like it.

Manually adding a Userscript to Google Chrome

Share and install userscript with one-click

To make auto-install (but mannually confirm), You can make gist (gist.github.com) with <filename>.user.js filename to get on-click installation when you click on Raw and get this page:

Installation page

How to do this ?

  1. Name your gist <filename>.user.js, write your code and click on "Create".
    Make file on gist

  2. In the gist page, click on Raw to get installation page (first screen).
    Raw button

  3. Check the code and install it.

Problems with jQuery getJSON using local files in Chrome

You can place your json to js file and save it to global variable. It is not asynchronous, but it can help.

"Proxy server connection failed" in google chrome

Try following these steps:

  1. Run Chrome as Administrator.
  2. Go to the settings in Chrome.
  3. Go to Advanced Settings (its all the way down).
  4. Scroll to Network Section and click on ''Change proxy settings''.
  5. A window will pop up with the name ''Internet Properties''
  6. Click on ''LAN settings''
  7. Un-check ''Use a proxy server for your LAN''
  8. Check ''Automatically detect settings''
  9. Click everything ''OK'' and you are done!

Getting Chrome to accept self-signed localhost certificate

This worked for me. See: http://www.robpeck.com/2010/10/google-chrome-mac-os-x-and-self-signed-ssl-certificates/#.Vcy8_ZNVhBc

In the address bar, click the little lock with the X. This will bring up a small information screen. Click the button that says "Certificate Information."

Click and drag the image to your desktop. It looks like a little certificate.

Double-click it. This will bring up the Keychain Access utility. Enter your password to unlock it.

Be sure you add the certificate to the System keychain, not the login keychain. Click "Always Trust," even though this doesn't seem to do anything.

After it has been added, double-click it. You may have to authenticate again.

Expand the "Trust" section.

"When using this certificate," set to "Always Trust"

How can I prevent the textarea from stretching beyond his parent DIV element? (google-chrome issue only)

textarea {
width: 700px;
height: 100px;
resize: none; }

assign your required width and height for the textarea and then use. resize: none ; css property which will disable the textarea's stretchable property.

Chrome's remote debugging (USB debugging) not working for Samsung Galaxy S3 running android 4.3

I have Samsung Galaxy S3 and it was not showing in the "Remote devices" tab nor in chrome://inspect. The device did show in Windows's Device Manager as GT-I9300, though. What worked for me was:

  1. Plug the mobile phone to the front USB port
  2. On my phone, click the notification about successful connection
  3. Make sure the connection type is Camera (PTP)
  4. On my Windows machine, download installer from https://github.com/koush/UniversalAdbDriver
  5. Run it :)
  6. Open cmd.exe
  7. cd "C:\Program Files (x86)\ClockworkMod\Universal Adb Driver"
  8. adb devices
  9. Open Chrome in both mobile phone and Windows machine
  10. On Windows's machine navigate to chrome://inspect - there, after a while you should see the target phone :)

I'm not sure if it affected the whole flow somehow, but at some point I've installed, and later uninstalled the drivers from Samsung: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/downloads/ > Mobile > Phones > Galaxy S > S III > Unlocked > http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/galaxy-s-iii-unlocked#downloads

Android: long click on a button -> perform actions

I've done it before, I just used:

down.setOnLongClickListener(new OnLongClickListener() {
        @Override
        public boolean onLongClick(View v) {
            // TODO Auto-generated method stub
            return true;
        }
    });

Per documentation:

public void setOnLongClickListener (View.OnLongClickListener l)

Since: API Level 1 Register a callback to be invoked when this view is clicked and held. If this view is not long clickable, it becomes long clickable.

Notice that it requires to return a boolean, this should work.

How can I create C header files

Header files can contain any valid C code, since they are injected into the compilation unit by the pre-processor prior to compilation.

If a header file contains a function, and is included by multiple .c files, each .c file will get a copy of that function and create a symbol for it. The linker will complain about the duplicate symbols.

It is technically possible to create static functions in a header file for inclusion in multiple .c files. Though this is generally not done because it breaks from the convention that code is found in .c files and declarations are found in .h files.

See the discussions in C/C++: Static function in header file, what does it mean? for more explanation.

How do I uninstall a Windows service if the files do not exist anymore?

I needed to reinstall my tomcat service, which meant first removing it. This worked for me:

Start a command prompt window using run as administrator

sc query type= service >t.txt

(edit the file t.txt, search through the list and find the tomcat service. It's called Tomcat7)

sc delete Tomcat7

HOWEVER, the query command did not work the first time, because the tomcat service was not running. It seems to only list services that are running. I had to start the service and run the query command again.

How can I check whether an array is null / empty?

I believe that what you want is

int[] k = new int[3];

if (k != null) {  // Note, != and not == as above
    System.out.println(k.length);
}

You newed it up so it was never going to be null.

Black transparent overlay on image hover with only CSS?

You were close. This will work:

.image { position: relative; border: 1px solid black; width: 200px; height: 200px; }
.image img { max-width: 100%; max-height: 100%; }
.overlay { position: absolute; top: 0; left: 0; right:0; bottom:0; display: none; background-color: rgba(0,0,0,0.5); }
.image:hover .overlay { display: block; }

You needed to put the :hover on image, and make the .overlay cover the whole image by adding right:0; and bottom:0.

How to send json data in the Http request using NSURLRequest

Most of you already know this by now, but I am posting this, just incase, some of you are still struggling with JSON in iOS6+.

In iOS6 and later, we have the NSJSONSerialization Class that is fast and has no dependency on including "outside" libraries.

NSDictionary *result = [NSJSONSerialization JSONObjectWithData:[resultStr dataUsingEncoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding] options:0 error:nil];

This is the way iOS6 and later can now parse JSON efficiently.The use of SBJson is also pre-ARC implementation and brings with it those issues too if you are working in an ARC environment.

I hope this helps!

Python group by

Do it in 2 steps. First, create a dictionary.

>>> input = [('11013331', 'KAT'), ('9085267', 'NOT'), ('5238761', 'ETH'), ('5349618', 'ETH'), ('11788544', 'NOT'), ('962142', 'ETH'), ('7795297', 'ETH'), ('7341464', 'ETH'), ('9843236', 'KAT'), ('5594916', 'ETH'), ('1550003', 'ETH')]
>>> from collections import defaultdict
>>> res = defaultdict(list)
>>> for v, k in input: res[k].append(v)
...

Then, convert that dictionary into the expected format.

>>> [{'type':k, 'items':v} for k,v in res.items()]
[{'items': ['9085267', '11788544'], 'type': 'NOT'}, {'items': ['5238761', '5349618', '962142', '7795297', '7341464', '5594916', '1550003'], 'type': 'ETH'}, {'items': ['11013331', '9843236'], 'type': 'KAT'}]

It is also possible with itertools.groupby but it requires the input to be sorted first.

>>> sorted_input = sorted(input, key=itemgetter(1))
>>> groups = groupby(sorted_input, key=itemgetter(1))
>>> [{'type':k, 'items':[x[0] for x in v]} for k, v in groups]
[{'items': ['5238761', '5349618', '962142', '7795297', '7341464', '5594916', '1550003'], 'type': 'ETH'}, {'items': ['11013331', '9843236'], 'type': 'KAT'}, {'items': ['9085267', '11788544'], 'type': 'NOT'}]

Note both of these do not respect the original order of the keys. You need an OrderedDict if you need to keep the order.

>>> from collections import OrderedDict
>>> res = OrderedDict()
>>> for v, k in input:
...   if k in res: res[k].append(v)
...   else: res[k] = [v]
...
>>> [{'type':k, 'items':v} for k,v in res.items()]
[{'items': ['11013331', '9843236'], 'type': 'KAT'}, {'items': ['9085267', '11788544'], 'type': 'NOT'}, {'items': ['5238761', '5349618', '962142', '7795297', '7341464', '5594916', '1550003'], 'type': 'ETH'}]

using jQuery .animate to animate a div from right to left?

Here's a minimal answer that shows your example working:

<html>
<head>
<title>hello.world.animate()</title>
<script src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.4.2/jquery.min.js"
    type="text/javascript"></script>
<style type="text/css">
#coolDiv {
    position: absolute;
    top: 0;
    right: 0;
    width: 200px;
    background-color: #ccc;
}
</style>
<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function() {
    // this way works fine for Firefox, but
    // Chrome and Safari can't do it.
    $("#coolDiv").animate({'left':0}, "slow");
    // So basically if you *start* with a right position
    // then stick to animating to another right position
    // to do that, get the window width minus the width of your div:
$("#coolDiv").animate({'right':($('body').innerWidth()-$('#coolDiv').width())}, 'slow');
    // sorry that's so ugly!
});
</script>
</head>
<body>
    <div style="" id="coolDiv">HELLO</div>
</body>
</html>

Original Answer:

You have:

$("#coolDiv").animate({"left":"0px", "slow");

Corrected:

$("#coolDiv").animate({"left":"0px"}, "slow");

Trying to read cell 1,1 in spreadsheet using Google Script API

You have to first obtain the Range object. Also, getCell() will not return the value of the cell but instead will return a Range object of the cell. So, use something on the lines of

function email() {

// Opens SS by its ID

var ss = SpreadsheetApp.openById("0AgJjDgtUl5KddE5rR01NSFcxYTRnUHBCQ0stTXNMenc");

// Get the name of this SS

var name = ss.getName();  // Not necessary

// Read cell 1,1 * Line below does't work *

// var data = Range.getCell(0, 0);
var sheet = ss.getSheetByName('Sheet1'); // or whatever is the name of the sheet
var range = sheet.getRange(1,1);
var data = range.getValue();

}

The hierarchy is Spreadsheet --> Sheet --> Range --> Cell.

How to do case insensitive string comparison?

This is an improved version of this answer.

String.equal = function (s1, s2, ignoreCase, useLocale) {
    if (s1 == null || s2 == null)
        return false;

    if (!ignoreCase) {
        if (s1.length !== s2.length)
            return false;

        return s1 === s2;
    }

    if (useLocale) {
        if (useLocale.length)
            return s1.toLocaleLowerCase(useLocale) === s2.toLocaleLowerCase(useLocale)
        else
            return s1.toLocaleLowerCase() === s2.toLocaleLowerCase()
    }
    else {
        if (s1.length !== s2.length)
            return false;

Query to get only numbers from a string

Firstly find out the number's starting length then reverse the string to find out the first position again(which will give you end position of number from the end). Now if you deduct 1 from both number and deduct it from string whole length you'll get only number length. Now get the number using SUBSTRING

declare @fieldName nvarchar(100)='AAAA1221.121BBBB'

declare @lenSt int=(select PATINDEX('%[0-9]%', @fieldName)-1)
declare @lenEnd int=(select PATINDEX('%[0-9]%', REVERSE(@fieldName))-1)

select SUBSTRING(@fieldName, PATINDEX('%[0-9]%', @fieldName), (LEN(@fieldName) - @lenSt -@lenEnd))

How to unstage large number of files without deleting the content

2019 update

As pointed out by others in related questions (see here, here, here, here, here, here, and here), you can now unstage a file with git restore --staged <file>.

To unstage all the files in your project, run the following from the root of the repository (the command is recursive):

git restore --staged .

If you only want to unstage the files in a directory, navigate to it before running the above or run:

git restore --staged <directory-path>

Notes

  • git restore was introduced in July 2019 and released in version 2.23.
    With the --staged flag, it restores the content of the working tree from HEAD (so it does the opposite of git add and does not delete any change).

  • This is a new command, but the behaviour of the old commands remains unchanged. So the older answers with git reset or git reset HEAD are still perfectly valid.

  • When running git status with staged uncommitted file(s), this is now what Git suggests to use to unstage file(s) (instead of git reset HEAD <file> as it used to prior to v2.23).

How can I "disable" zoom on a mobile web page?

There are a number of approaches here- and though the position is that typically users should not be restricted when it comes to zooming for accessibility purposes, there may be incidences where is it required:

Render the page at the width of the device, dont scale:

<meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1.0">

Prevent scaling- and prevent the user from being able to zoom:

<meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1, maximum-scale=1, user-scalable=no">

Removing all zooming, all scaling

<meta name="viewport" content="user-scalable=no, initial-scale=1, maximum-scale=1, minimum-scale=1, width=device-width, height=device-height, target-densitydpi=device-dpi" />

HTML form readonly SELECT tag/input

I know this won't help everyone (if you are client side only) but will help some who are full stack and have control of backend as well as front.

If a user does not have priviledge to edit a field, I only return the current selection for the drop down.

Here is some of my backend controller:

        #region Prepare Action Priviledges
        editAuditVM.ExtAuditEditRoleMatrixVM = new ExtAuditEditRoleMatrixVM
        {
            CanEditAcn = _extAuditEditRoleMatrixHelper.CanEditAcn(user, audit),
            CanEditSensitiveDesignation = _extAuditEditRoleMatrixHelper.CanEditSensitiveDesignation(user, audit),
            CanEditTitle = _extAuditEditRoleMatrixHelper.CanEditTitle(),
            CanEditAuditScope = _extAuditEditRoleMatrixHelper.CanEditAuditScope(user, audit)
        };
        #endregion

        #region Prepare SelectLists for Drop Downs
        #region AuditScope List
        IQueryable<SelectListItem> auditScopes = _auditTypesRepo.AuditTypes
            .Where(at => at.AuditTypeClassCode.ToLower() == "e")
            .Select(at => new SelectListItem
            { Text = at.AuditTypeText, Value = at.AuditTypeID.ToString() });
        // Cannot make a select readonly on client side.
        // So only return currently selected option.
        if (!editAuditVM.ExtAuditEditRoleMatrixVM.CanEditAuditScope)
        {
            auditScopes = auditScopes
                .Where(ascopeId => ascopeId.Value == editAuditVM.ExternalAudit.AuditTypeID.ToString());
        }

Multiline string literal in C#

The problem with using string literal I find is that it can make your code look a bit "weird" because in order to not get spaces in the string itself, it has to be completely left aligned:

    var someString = @"The
quick
brown
fox...";

Yuck.

So the solution I like to use, which keeps everything nicely aligned with the rest of your code is:

var someString = String.Join(
    Environment.NewLine,
    "The",
    "quick",
    "brown",
    "fox...");

And of course, if you just want to logically split up lines of an SQL statement like you are and don't actually need a new line, you can always just substitute Environment.NewLine for " ".

How do you find the row count for all your tables in Postgres

If you're in the psql shell, using \gexec allows you to execute the syntax described in syed's answer and Aur's answer without manual edits in an external text editor.

with x (y) as (
    select
        'select count(*), '''||
        tablename||
        ''' as "tablename" from '||
        tablename||' '
    from pg_tables
    where schemaname='public'
)
select
    string_agg(y,' union all '||chr(10)) || ' order by tablename'
from x \gexec

Note, string_agg() is used both to delimit union all between statements and to smush the separated datarows into a single unit to be passed into the buffer.

\gexec

Sends the current query buffer to the server, then treats each column of each row of the query's output (if any) as a SQL statement to be executed.

How to use cURL to get jSON data and decode the data?

to get the object you do not need to use cURL (you are loading another dll into memory and have another dependency, unless you really need curl I'd stick with built in php functions), you can use one simple php file_get_contents(url) function: http://il1.php.net/manual/en/function.file-get-contents.php

$unparsed_json = file_get_contents("api.php?action=getThreads&hash=123fajwersa&node_id=4&order_by=post_date&order=desc&limit=1&grab_content&content_limit=1");

$json_object = json_decode($unparsed_json);

then json_decode() parses JSON into a PHP object, or an array if you pass true to the second parameter. http://php.net/manual/en/function.json-decode.php

For example:

$json = '{"a":1,"b":2,"c":3,"d":4,"e":5}';

var_dump(json_decode($json));           // Object
var_dump(json_decode($json, true));     // Associative array

   console.log(a[i],i)
}

Count number of occurrences of a pattern in a file (even on same line)

Ripgrep, which is a fast alternative to grep, has just introduced the --count-matches flag allowing counting each match in version 0.9 (I'm using the above example to stay consistent):

> echo afoobarfoobar | rg --count foo
1
> echo afoobarfoobar | rg --count-matches foo
2

As asked by OP, ripgrep allows for regex pattern as well (--regexp <PATTERN>). Also it can print each (line) match on a separate line:

> echo -e "line1foo\nline2afoobarfoobar" | rg foo
line1foo
line2afoobarfoobar

Updating the value of data attribute using jQuery

I want to change the width and height of a div. data attributes did not change it. Instead I use:

var size = $("#theme_photo_size").val().split("x");
$("#imageupload_img").width(size[0]);
$("#imageupload_img").attr("data-width", size[0]);
$("#imageupload_img").height(size[1]);
$("#imageupload_img").attr("data-height", size[1]);

be careful:

$("#imageupload_img").data("height", size[1]); //did not work

did not set it

$("#imageupload_img").attr("data-height", size[1]); // yes it worked!

this has set it.

Select columns from result set of stored procedure

To achieve this, first you create a #test_table like below:

create table #test_table(
    col1 int,
    col2 int,
   .
   .
   .
    col80 int
)

Now execute procedure and put value in #test_table:

insert into #test_table
EXEC MyStoredProc 'param1', 'param2'

Now you fetch the value from #test_table:

select col1,col2....,col80 from #test_table

How to show progress bar while loading, using ajax

After much searching a way to show a progress bar just to make the most elegant charging could not find any way that would serve my purpose. $.ajax({

    dataType: 'html',
    timeout: 10000,
    beforeSend: function(){

        $('.progress-bar').animate({width: "30%"}, 100);
    },
    success: function(data){
        if(data == 'Unauthorized.'){
            location.href = 'logout';
        }else{

                }, 100);
            }, 500);
        }
    },
    error: function(request, status, err) {
        alert((status == "timeout") ? "Timeout" : "error: " + request + status + err);
    }
});

Why can't overriding methods throw exceptions broader than the overridden method?

say you have super class A with method M1 throwin E1 and class B deriving from A with method M2 overriding M1. M2 can not throw anything DIFFERENT or LESS SPECIALIZED than E1.

Because of polymorphism, the client using class A should be able to treat B as if it were A. Inharitance ===> Is-a (B is-a A). What if this code dealing with class A was handling exception E1, as M1 declares it throws this checked exception, but then different type of exception was thrown? If M1 was throwing IOException M2 could well throw FileNotFoundException, as it is-a IOException. Clients of A could handle this without a problem. If the exception thrown was wider, clients of A would not have a chance of knowing about this and therefore would not have a chance to catch it.

Highlight a word with jQuery

Is it possible to get this above example:

jQuery.fn.highlight = function (str, className)
{
    var regex = new RegExp(str, "g");

    return this.each(function ()
    {
        this.innerHTML = this.innerHTML.replace(
            regex,
            "<span class=\"" + className + "\">" + str + "</span>"
        );
    });
};

not to replace text inside html-tags like , this otherwise breakes the page.

Windows 7 - 'make' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file

  1. First make sure you have MinGW installed.
  2. From MinGW installation manager check if you have the mingw32-make package installed.
  3. Check if you have added the MinGW bin folder to your PATH. type PATH in your command line and look for the folder. Or on windows 10 go to Control Panel\System and Security\System --> Advanced system settings --> Environment Variables --> System Variables find Path variable, select, Edit and check if it is there. If not just add it!
  4. As explained here, create a new file in any of your PATH folders. For example create mingwstartup.bat in the MinGW bin folder. write the line doskey make=mingw32-make.exe inside, save and close it.
  5. open Registry Editor by running regedit. As explained here in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE or HKEY_CURRENT_USER go to \Software\Microsoft\Command Processor right click on the right panel New --> Expandable String Value and name it AutoRun. double click and enter the path to your .bat file as the Value data (e.g. "C:\MinGW\bin\mingwstartup.bat") the result should look like this:

enter image description here

now every time you open a new terminal make command will run the mingw32-make.exe. I hope it helps.

P.S. If you don't want to see the commands of the .bat file to be printed out to the terminal put @echo off at the top of the batch file.

Equal height rows in CSS Grid Layout

Short Answer

If the goal is to create a grid with equal height rows, where the tallest cell in the grid sets the height for all rows, here's a quick and simple solution:

  • Set the container to grid-auto-rows: 1fr

How it works

Grid Layout provides a unit for establishing flexible lengths in a grid container. This is the fr unit. It is designed to distribute free space in the container and is somewhat analogous to the flex-grow property in flexbox.

If you set all rows in a grid container to 1fr, let's say like this:

grid-auto-rows: 1fr;

... then all rows will be equal height.

It doesn't really make sense off-the-bat because fr is supposed to distribute free space. And if several rows have content with different heights, then when the space is distributed, some rows would be proportionally smaller and taller.

Except, buried deep in the grid spec is this little nugget:

7.2.3. Flexible Lengths: the fr unit

...

When the available space is infinite (which happens when the grid container’s width or height is indefinite), flex-sized (fr) grid tracks are sized to their contents while retaining their respective proportions.

The used size of each flex-sized grid track is computed by determining the max-content size of each flex-sized grid track and dividing that size by the respective flex factor to determine a “hypothetical 1fr size”.

The maximum of those is used as the resolved 1fr length (the flex fraction), which is then multiplied by each grid track’s flex factor to determine its final size.

So, if I'm reading this correctly, when dealing with a dynamically-sized grid (e.g., the height is indefinite), grid tracks (rows, in this case) are sized to their contents.

The height of each row is determined by the tallest (max-content) grid item.

The maximum height of those rows becomes the length of 1fr.

That's how 1fr creates equal height rows in a grid container.

Why flexbox isn't an option

As noted in the question, equal height rows are not possible with flexbox.

Flex items can be equal height on the same row, but not across multiple rows.

This behavior is defined in the flexbox spec:

6. Flex Lines

In a multi-line flex container, the cross size of each line is the minimum size necessary to contain the flex items on the line.

In other words, when there are multiple lines in a row-based flex container, the height of each line (the "cross size") is the minimum height necessary to contain the flex items on the line.

How can I rename a project folder from within Visual Studio?

I've had to do this lots of times. It's really useful to be able to repurpose an existing project, but be able to rename text in namespaces, files, and folders (including file / directory names).

Using a recursive find and replace starting at the root folder means the rename doesn't break links to projects in the solution files and project references.

To this end, I have created a project to do just this. The application also makes an effort to ignore version control folders such as .git, .svn and the .vs settings file. More information is in the README.

https://github.com/garethrbrown/vs-project-rename

Example

jQuery Datepicker localization

If you want to include some options besides regional localization, you have to use $.extend, like this:

$(function() {
   $('#Date').datepicker($.extend({
      showMonthAfterYear: false,
      dateFormat:'d MM, y'
    },
    $.datepicker.regional['fr']
  ));
});

BEGIN - END block atomic transactions in PL/SQL

BEGIN-END blocks are the building blocks of PL/SQL, and each PL/SQL unit is contained within at least one such block. Nesting BEGIN-END blocks within PL/SQL blocks is usually done to trap certain exceptions and handle that special exception and then raise unrelated exceptions. Nevertheless, in PL/SQL you (the client) must always issue a commit or rollback for the transaction.

If you wish to have atomic transactions within a PL/SQL containing transaction, you need to declare a PRAGMA AUTONOMOUS_TRANSACTION in the declaration block. This will ensure that any DML within that block can be committed or rolledback independently of the containing transaction.

However, you cannot declare this pragma for nested blocks. You can only declare this for:

  • Top-level (not nested) anonymous PL/SQL blocks
  • List item
  • Local, standalone, and packaged functions and procedures
  • Methods of a SQL object type
  • Database triggers

bash: shortest way to get n-th column of output

You can use cut to access the second field:

cut -f2

Edit: Sorry, didn't realise that SVN doesn't use tabs in its output, so that's a bit useless. You can tailor cut to the output but it's a bit fragile - something like cut -c 10- would work, but the exact value will depend on your setup.

Another option is something like: sed 's/.\s\+//'

Hex-encoded String to Byte Array

I think what the questioner is after is converting the string representation of a hexadecimal value to a byte array representing that hexadecimal value.

The apache commons-codec has a class for that, Hex.

String s = "9B7D2C34A366BF890C730641E6CECF6F";
byte[] bytes = Hex.decodeHex(s.toCharArray());

Sublime Text 3 how to change the font size of the file sidebar?

The answers are omitting the square brackets, in the case one is creating the file from scratch.

To recap, for the ST3 users who don't have the Default.sublime-theme file (which is actually the default configuration), the simplest procedure is:

  1. Navigate to Sublime Text -> Preferences -> Browse Packages
  2. Open the User directory
  3. Create a file named Default.sublime-theme (if you're using the default theme, otherwise use the theme name, e.g. Material-Theme-Darker.sublime-theme) with the following content (modify font.size as required):

[
    {
        "class": "sidebar_label",
        "color": [0, 0, 0],
        "font.bold": false,
        "font.size": 12
    },
]

For reference, here there is the full file (as found in ST2).

Pandas - 'Series' object has no attribute 'colNames' when using apply()

When you use df.apply(), each row of your DataFrame will be passed to your lambda function as a pandas Series. The frame's columns will then be the index of the series and you can access values using series[label].

So this should work:

df['D'] = (df.apply(lambda x: myfunc(x[colNames[0]], x[colNames[1]]), axis=1))

How do you make strings "XML safe"?

I prefer the way Golang does quote escaping for XML (and a few extras like newline escaping, and escaping some other characters), so I have ported its XML escape function to PHP below

function isInCharacterRange(int $r): bool {
    return $r == 0x09 ||
            $r == 0x0A ||
            $r == 0x0D ||
            $r >= 0x20 && $r <= 0xDF77 ||
            $r >= 0xE000 && $r <= 0xFFFD ||
            $r >= 0x10000 && $r <= 0x10FFFF;
}

function xml(string $s, bool $escapeNewline = true): string {
    $w = '';

    $Last = 0;
    $l = strlen($s);
    $i = 0;

    while ($i < $l) {
        $r = mb_substr(substr($s, $i), 0, 1);
        $Width = strlen($r);
        $i += $Width;
        switch ($r) {
            case '"':
                $esc = '&#34;';
                break;
            case "'":
                $esc = '&#39;';
                break;
            case '&':
                $esc = '&amp;';
                break;
            case '<':
                $esc = '&lt;';
                break;
            case '>':
                $esc = '&gt;';
                break;
            case "\t":
                $esc = '&#x9;';
                break;
            case "\n":
                if (!$escapeNewline) {
                    continue 2;
                }
                $esc = '&#xA;';
                break;
            case "\r":
                $esc = '&#xD;';
                break;
            default:
                if (!isInCharacterRange(mb_ord($r)) || (mb_ord($r) === 0xFFFD && $Width === 1)) {
                    $esc = "\u{FFFD}";
                    break;
                }

                continue 2;
        }
        $w .= substr($s, $Last, $i - $Last - $Width) . $esc;
        $Last = $i;
    }
    $w .= substr($s, $Last);
    return $w;
}

Note you'll need at least PHP7.2 because of the mb_ord usage, or you'll have to swap it out for another polyfill, but these functions are working great for us!

Run PHP function on html button click

If you want to make a server request you should use AJAX, so you can send your desired parameters to the server and it can run whatever php you want with these parameters.

Example with pure javascript:

<input type="text" id="name" value="..."/>
<input type="text" id="location" value="..."/>
<input type="button" onclick="ajaxFunction();" value="Submit" />
<div id="ajaxDiv"></div>
<script type="text/javascript">
    function ajaxFunction(){
        var ajaxRequest; // The variable that makes Ajax possible!

        try{
            // Opera 8.0+, Firefox, Safari
            ajaxRequest = new XMLHttpRequest();
        } catch (e){
            // Internet Explorer Browsers
            try{
                ajaxRequest = new ActiveXObject("Msxml2.XMLHTTP");
            } catch (e) {
                try{
                    ajaxRequest = new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP");
                } catch (e){
                    // Something went wrong
                    alert("Your browser broke!");
                    return false;
                }
            }
        }
        // Create a function that will receive data sent from the server
        ajaxRequest.onreadystatechange = function(){
            if(ajaxRequest.readyState == 4){
                var ajaxDisplay = document.getElementById('ajaxDiv');
                ajaxDisplay.innerHTML = ajaxRequest.responseText;
            }
        }
        var name = document.getElementById('name').value;
        var location = document.getElementById('location').value;
        var queryString = "?name=" + name + "&location=" + location;
        ajaxRequest.open("POST", "some.php" + queryString, true);
        ajaxRequest.send(null);
    }
</script>

Example with jQuery Ajax: http://api.jquery.com/jQuery.ajax/

$.ajax({
  type: "POST",
  url: "some.php",
  data: { name: "John", location: "Boston" }
}).done(function( msg ) {
  alert( "Data Saved: " + msg );
});

You can have one file with functions called for example functions.php

functions.php

<?php
  myFunction($Name, $Location) {
      // etc...
  }
  myFunction2() {
  }
  // ... many functions
?>

some.php

<?php include("functions.php");
$Name = $_POST['name'];
$Location = $_POST['location'];

myFunction($Name, $Location);

// make what you want with these variables...?>

Could not find com.google.android.gms:play-services:3.1.59 3.2.25 4.0.30 4.1.32 4.2.40 4.2.42 4.3.23 4.4.52 5.0.77 5.0.89 5.2.08 6.1.11 6.1.71 6.5.87

In addition to installing the repository and the SDK packages one should be aware that the version number changes periodically. A simple solution at this point is to replace the specific version number with a plus (+) symbol.

compile 'com.google.android.gms:play-services:+'

Google instructions indicate that one should be sure to upgrade the version numbers, however adding the plus deals with the changes in versioning. Also note that when building in Android Studio a message will appear in the status line when a new version is available.

One can view the available versions of play services by drilling down on the correct repository path:

How to get the name of the current method from code

Does this not work?

System.Reflection.MethodBase.GetCurrentMethod()

Returns a MethodBase object representing the currently executing method.

Namespace: System.Reflection

Assembly: mscorlib (in mscorlib.dll)

How can I remove the first line of a text file using bash/sed script?

As Pax said, you probably aren't going to get any faster than this. The reason is that there are almost no filesystems that support truncating from the beginning of the file so this is going to be an O(n) operation where n is the size of the file. What you can do much faster though is overwrite the first line with the same number of bytes (maybe with spaces or a comment) which might work for you depending on exactly what you are trying to do (what is that by the way?).

How to pass IEnumerable list to controller in MVC including checkbox state?

Use a list instead and replace your foreach loop with a for loop:

@model IList<BlockedIPViewModel>

@using (Html.BeginForm())
{
    @Html.AntiForgeryToken()

    @for (var i = 0; i < Model.Count; i++)
    {
        <tr>
            <td>
                @Html.HiddenFor(x => x[i].IP)
                @Html.CheckBoxFor(x => x[i].Checked)
            </td>
            <td>
                @Html.DisplayFor(x => x[i].IP)
            </td>
        </tr>
    }
    <div>
        <input type="submit" value="Unblock IPs" />
    </div>
}

Alternatively you could use an editor template:

@model IEnumerable<BlockedIPViewModel>

@using (Html.BeginForm())
{
    @Html.AntiForgeryToken()
    @Html.EditorForModel()
    <div>
        <input type="submit" value="Unblock IPs" />
    </div>
}

and then define the template ~/Views/Shared/EditorTemplates/BlockedIPViewModel.cshtml which will automatically be rendered for each element of the collection:

@model BlockedIPViewModel
<tr>
    <td>
        @Html.HiddenFor(x => x.IP)
        @Html.CheckBoxFor(x => x.Checked)
    </td>
    <td>
        @Html.DisplayFor(x => x.IP)
    </td>
</tr>

The reason you were getting null in your controller is because you didn't respect the naming convention for your input fields that the default model binder expects to successfully bind to a list. I invite you to read the following article.

Once you have read it, look at the generated HTML (and more specifically the names of the input fields) with my example and yours. Then compare and you will understand why yours doesn't work.

How can I read the client's machine/computer name from the browser?

An updated version from Kelsey :

$(function GetInfo() {
    var network = new ActiveXObject('WScript.Network');
        alert('User ID : ' + network.UserName + '\nComputer Name : ' + network.ComputerName + '\nDomain Name : ' + network.UserDomain);
        document.getElementById('<%= currUserID.ClientID %>').value = network.UserName;
        document.getElementById('<%= currMachineName.ClientID %>').value = network.ComputerName;
        document.getElementById('<%= currMachineDOmain.ClientID %>').value = network.UserDomain;
});

To store the value, add these control :

<asp:HiddenField ID="currUserID" runat="server" /> <asp:HiddenField ID="currMachineName" runat="server" /> <asp:HiddenField ID="currMachineDOmain" runat="server" />

Where you also can calling it from behind like this :

Page.ClientScript.RegisterStartupScript(this.GetType(), "MachineInfo", "GetInfo();", true);

How can I add C++11 support to Code::Blocks compiler?

Finding Android SDK on Mac and adding to PATH

In my case, I had to create local.properties file with sdk.dir=PATH_TO_ANDROID_SDK in my machine. It seems that, it's regarding the android sdk path setup. Hence, it could also be set in ANDROID_HOME env. variable too.

PDF to image using Java

Apache PDF Box can convert PDFs to jpg,bmp,wbmp,png, and gif.

The library even comes with a command line utility called PDFToImage to do this.

If you download the source code and look at the PDFToImage class you should be able to figure out how to use PDF Box to convert PDFs to images from your own Java code.

Python + Regex: AttributeError: 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'groups'

import re

htmlString = '</dd><dt> Fine, thank you.&#160;</dt><dd> Molt bé, gràcies. (<i>mohl behh, GRAH-syuhs</i>)'

SearchStr = '(\<\/dd\>\<dt\>)+ ([\w+\,\.\s]+)([\&\#\d\;]+)(\<\/dt\>\<dd\>)+ ([\w\,\s\w\s\w\?\!\.]+) (\(\<i\>)([\w\s\,\-]+)(\<\/i\>\))'

Result = re.search(SearchStr.decode('utf-8'), htmlString.decode('utf-8'), re.I | re.U)

print Result.groups()

Works that way. The expression contains non-latin characters, so it usually fails. You've got to decode into Unicode and use re.U (Unicode) flag.

I'm a beginner too and I faced that issue a couple of times myself.

"401 Unauthorized" on a directory

You do not have permision to view this directory or page using the credentials that you supplied.

This happened despite the fact the user is already authenticated via Active Directory.

There can be many causes to Access Denied error, but if you think you’ve already configured everything correctly from your web application, there might be a little detail that’s forgotten. Make sure you give the proper permission to Authenticated Users to access your web application directory.

Here are the steps I took to solve this issue.

  1. Right-click on the directory where the web application is stored and select Properties and click on Security tab.

  2. Click on Click on Edit…, then Add… button. Type in Authenticated Users in the Enter the object names to select., then Add button. Type in Authenticated Users in the Enter the object names to select.

  3. Click OK and you should see Authenticated Users as one of the user names. Give proper permissions on the Permissions for Authenticated Users box on the lower end if they’re not checked already.

  4. Click OK twice to close the dialog box. It should take effect immediately, but if you want to be sure, you can restart IIS for your web application.

Refresh your browser and it should display the web page now.

Hope this helps!

How to use if-else logic in Java 8 stream forEach

Just put the condition into the lambda itself, e.g.

animalMap.entrySet().stream()
        .forEach(
                pair -> {
                    if (pair.getValue() != null) {
                        myMap.put(pair.getKey(), pair.getValue());
                    } else {
                        myList.add(pair.getKey());
                    }
                }
        );

Of course, this assumes that both collections (myMap and myList) are declared and initialized prior to the above piece of code.

Update: using Map.forEach makes the code shorter, plus more efficient and readable, as Jorn Vernee kindly suggested:

    animalMap.forEach(
            (key, value) -> {
                if (value != null) {
                    myMap.put(key, value);
                } else {
                    myList.add(key);
                }
            }
    );

How to display length of filtered ng-repeat data

ngRepeat creates a copy of the array when it applies a filter, so you can't use the source array to reference only the filtered elements.

In your case, in may be better to apply the filter inside of your controller using the $filter service:

function MainCtrl( $scope, filterFilter ) {
  // ...

  $scope.filteredData = myNormalData;

  $scope.$watch( 'myInputModel', function ( val ) {
    $scope.filteredData = filterFilter( myNormalData, val );
  });

  // ...
}

And then you use the filteredData property in your view instead. Here is a working Plunker: http://plnkr.co/edit/7c1l24rPkuKPOS5o2qtx?p=preview

What are major differences between C# and Java?

The following is a great in depth reference by Dare Obasanjo on the differences between C# and Java. I always find myself referring to this article when switching between the two.

http://www.25hoursaday.com/CsharpVsJava.html

scp (secure copy) to ec2 instance without password

To use PSCP, you need the private key you generated in Converting Your Private Key Using PuTTYgen. You also need the public DNS address of your Linux instance

pscp -i C:\path\my-key-pair.ppk C:\path\Sample_file.txt ec2-user@public_dns:/home/ec2-user/Sample_file.txt

The communication object, System.ServiceModel.Channels.ServiceChannel, cannot be used for communication

To prevent the Server from fall in Fault state, you have to ensure that no unhandled exception is raised. If WCF sees an unexpected Exception, no more calls are accepted - safety first.
Two possibilties to avoid this behaviour:

  1. Use a FaultException (this one is not unexpected for WCF, so the WCF knows that the server has still a valid state)
    instead of

    throw new Exception("Error xy in my function")

    use always

    throw new FaultException("Error xy in my function")

    perhaps you can try..catch the whole block and throw a FaultException in all cases of an Exception

    try
    {
        ... some code here
    }
    catch (Exception ex)
    {
        throw new FaultException(ex.Message)
    }

  2. Tell WCF to handle all Exceptions using an Errorhandler. This can be done in several ways, I chose a simple one using an Attribute:
    All we have to do more, is to use the attribute [SvcErrorHandlerBehaviour] on the wanted Service Implementation

    using System;
    using System.Collections.ObjectModel;
    using System.ServiceModel;
    using System.ServiceModel.Channels;
    using System.ServiceModel.Description;
    using System.ServiceModel.Dispatcher;

    namespace MainService.Services
    {
        /// <summary>
        /// Provides FaultExceptions for all Methods Calls of a Service that fails with an Exception
        /// </summary>
        public class SvcErrorHandlerBehaviourAttribute : Attribute, IServiceBehavior
        {
            public void Validate(ServiceDescription serviceDescription, ServiceHostBase serviceHostBase)
            { } //implementation not needed

            public void AddBindingParameters(ServiceDescription serviceDescription, ServiceHostBase serviceHostBase, Collection<ServiceEndpoint> endpoints,
                                             BindingParameterCollection bindingParameters)
            { } //implementation not needed

            public void ApplyDispatchBehavior(ServiceDescription serviceDescription, ServiceHostBase serviceHostBase)
            {
                foreach (ChannelDispatcherBase chanDispBase in serviceHostBase.ChannelDispatchers)
                {
                    ChannelDispatcher channelDispatcher = chanDispBase as ChannelDispatcher;
                    if (channelDispatcher == null)
                        continue;
                    channelDispatcher.ErrorHandlers.Add(new SvcErrorHandler());
                }
            }
        }

        public class SvcErrorHandler: IErrorHandler
        {
            public bool HandleError(Exception error)
            {
                //You can log th message if you want.
                return true;
            }

            public void ProvideFault(Exception error, MessageVersion version, ref Message msg)
            {
                if (error is FaultException)
                    return;

                FaultException faultException = new FaultException(error.Message);
                MessageFault messageFault = faultException.CreateMessageFault();
                msg = Message.CreateMessage(version, messageFault, faultException.Action);
            }
        }
    }

This is an easy example, you can dive deeper into IErrorhandler by not using the naked FaultException, but a FaultException<> with a type that provides additional info see IErrorHandler for an detailed example.

How to find the users list in oracle 11g db?

You can think of a mysql database as a schema/user in Oracle. If you have the privileges, you can query the DBA_USERS view to see the list of schema.

How do I create and read a value from cookie?

A cheeky and simple way of reading a cookie could be something like:

let username, id;
eval(document.cookie);
console.log(username + ", " + id); // John Doe, 123

This could be used if you know your cookie contains something like: username="John Doe"; id=123;. Note that a string would need quotes in the cookie. Not the recommended way probably, but works for testing/learning.

Getting files by creation date in .NET

You can use Linq

var files = Directory.GetFiles(@"C:\", "*").OrderByDescending(d => new FileInfo(d).CreationTime);

Convert LocalDateTime to LocalDateTime in UTC

tldr: there is simply no way to do that; if you are trying to do that, you get LocalDateTime wrong.

The reason is that LocalDateTime does not record Time Zone after instances are created. You cannot convert a date time without time zone to another date time based on a specific time zone.

As a matter of fact, LocalDateTime.now() should never be called in production code unless your purpose is getting random results. When you construct a LocalDateTime instance like that, this instance contains date time ONLY based on current server's time zone, which means this piece of code will generate different result if it is running a server with a different time zone config.

LocalDateTime can simplify date calculating. If you want a real universally usable data time, use ZonedDateTime or OffsetDateTime: https://docs.oracle.com/javase/8/docs/api/java/time/OffsetDateTime.html.

How do I remove accents from characters in a PHP string?

In laravel you can simply use str_slug($accentedPhrase) and if you care about dash (-) that this method substitute with space you can use str_replace('-', ' ', str_slug($accentedPhrase))

What is the difference between signed and unsigned variables?

Unsigned variables can only be positive numbers, because they lack the ability to indicate that they are negative.

This ability is called the 'sign' or 'signing bit'.

A side effect is that without a signing bit, they have one more bit that can be used to represent the number, doubling the maximum number it can represent.

Listing files in a directory matching a pattern in Java

Since Java 8 you can use lambdas and achieve shorter code:

File dir = new File(xmlFilesDirectory);
File[] files = dir.listFiles((d, name) -> name.endsWith(".xml"));

default web page width - 1024px or 980px?

980 is not the "defacto standard", you'll generally see most people targeting a size a little bit less than 1024px wide to account for browser chrome such as scrollbars, etc.

Usually people target between 960 and 990px wide. Often people use a grid system (like 960.gs) which is opinionated about what the default width should be.

Also note, just recently the most common screen size now averages quite a bit bigger than 1024px wide, ranking in at 1366px wide. See http://techcrunch.com/2012/04/11/move-over-1024x768-the-most-popular-screen-resolution-on-the-web-is-now-1366x768/

ng-model for `<input type="file"/>` (with directive DEMO)

This is an addendum to @endy-tjahjono's solution.

I ended up not being able to get the value of uploadme from the scope. Even though uploadme in the HTML was visibly updated by the directive, I could still not access its value by $scope.uploadme. I was able to set its value from the scope, though. Mysterious, right..?

As it turned out, a child scope was created by the directive, and the child scope had its own uploadme.

The solution was to use an object rather than a primitive to hold the value of uploadme.

In the controller I have:

$scope.uploadme = {};
$scope.uploadme.src = "";

and in the HTML:

 <input type="file" fileread="uploadme.src"/>
 <input type="text" ng-model="uploadme.src"/>

There are no changes to the directive.

Now, it all works like expected. I can grab the value of uploadme.src from my controller using $scope.uploadme.

add column to mysql table if it does not exist

Procedure from Jake https://stackoverflow.com/a/6476091/6751901 is very simple and good solution for adding new columns, but with one additional line:

DROP PROCEDURE IF EXISTS foo;;

you can add new columns later there, and it will work next time too:

delimiter ;;
DROP PROCEDURE IF EXISTS foo;;
create procedure foo ()
begin
    declare continue handler for 1060 begin end;
    alter table atable add subscriber_surname varchar(64);
    alter table atable add subscriber_address varchar(254);
end;;
call foo();;

Why "no projects found to import"?

In new updated eclipse the option "create project from existing source" is found here, File>New>Project>Android>Android Project from Existing Code. Then browse to root directory.

For Android Studio I had this same problem. It was caused by running from linux, meaning the files did not automatically receive an extension. By manually adding .png to the end of the filenames it could recognize the filetype and load accordingly.

Android studio might throw a hissy fit if you try to refactor rename inside the project, because android will try to regenerate R immediately. I do not know exactly what causes the error as it points to some seemingly random line of code, which in my case was a comment.

Solution to that: Delete from drawable, rename outside of the project and throw them in again.

How to Position a table HTML?

You would want to use CSS to achieve that.

say you have a table with the attribute id="my_table"

You would want to write the following in your css file

#my_table{
    margin-top:10px //moves your table 10pixels down
    margin-left:10px //moves your table 10pixels right
}

if you do not have a CSS file then you may just add margin-top:10px, margin-left:10px to the style attribute in your table element like so

<table style="margin-top:10px; margin-left:10px;">
    ....
</table>

There are a lot of resources on the net describing CSS and HTML in detail

How can I make space between two buttons in same div?

I used the Bootstrap 4 buttons plugin (https://getbootstrap.com/docs/4.0/components/buttons/#button-plugin) and added the class rounded to the labels and the class mx-1 to the middle button to achieve the desired look and feel of separate radio buttons. Using the class btn-toolbar made the radio button circles appear for me which is not what I wanted. Hope this helps someone.

        <div class="btn-group btn-group-toggle" data-toggle="buttons">
            <label class="btn btn-secondary active rounded">
                <input type="radio" name="options" id="option1" autocomplete="off" checked> Active
            </label>
            <label class="btn btn-secondary rounded mx-1">
                <input type="radio" name="options" id="option2" autocomplete="off"> Radio
            </label>
            <label class="btn btn-secondary rounded">
                <input type="radio" name="options" id="option3" autocomplete="off"> Radio
            </label>
        </div>

Best way to check for nullable bool in a condition expression (if ...)

Use extensions.

public static class NullableMixin {
    public static bool IsTrue(this System.Nullable<bool> val) {
        return val == true;
    }
    public static bool IsFalse(this System.Nullable<bool> val) {
        return val == false;
    }
    public static bool IsNull(this System.Nullable<bool> val) {
        return val == null;
    }
    public static bool IsNotNull(this System.Nullable<bool> val) {
        return val.HasValue;
    }
}

Nullable<bool> value = null;
if(value.IsTrue()) {
// do something with it
}

Is it possible to pass parameters programmatically in a Microsoft Access update query?

I just tested this and it works in Access 2010.

Say you have a SELECT query with parameters:

PARAMETERS startID Long, endID Long;
SELECT Members.*
FROM Members
WHERE (((Members.memberID) Between [startID] And [endID]));

You run that query interactively and it prompts you for [startID] and [endID]. That works, so you save that query as [MemberSubset].

Now you create an UPDATE query based on that query:

UPDATE Members SET Members.age = [age]+1
WHERE (((Members.memberID) In (SELECT memberID FROM [MemberSubset])));

You run that query interactively and again you are prompted for [startID] and [endID] and it works well, so you save it as [MemberSubsetUpdate].

You can run [MemberSubsetUpdate] from VBA code by specifying [startID] and [endID] values as parameters to [MemberSubsetUpdate], even though they are actually parameters of [MemberSubset]. Those parameter values "trickle down" to where they are needed, and the query does work without human intervention:

Sub paramTest()
    Dim qdf As DAO.QueryDef
    Set qdf = CurrentDb.QueryDefs("MemberSubsetUpdate")
    qdf!startID = 1  ' specify
    qdf!endID = 2    '     parameters
    qdf.Execute
    Set qdf = Nothing
End Sub

Restore the mysql database from .frm files

I answered this question here, as well: https://dba.stackexchange.com/a/42932/24122

I recently experienced this same issue. I'm on a Mac and so I used MAMP in order to restore the Database to a point where I could export it in a MySQL dump.

You can read the full blog post about it here: http://www.quora.com/Jordan-Ryan/Web-Dev/How-to-Recover-innoDB-MySQL-files-using-MAMP-on-a-Mac

You must have:

-ibdata1

-ib_logfile0

-ib_logfile1

-.FRM files from your mysql_database folder

-Fresh installation of MAMP / MAMP Pro that you are willing to destroy (if need be)

  1. SSH into your web server (dev, production, no difference) and browse to your mysql folder (mine was at /var/lib/mysql for a Plesk installation on Linux)
  2. Compress the mysql folder
  3. Download an archive of mysql folder which should contain all mySQL databases, whether MyISAM or innoDB (you can scp this file, or move this to a downloadable directory, if need be)
  4. Install MAMP (Mac, Apache, MySQL, PHP)
  5. Browse to /Applications/MAMP/db/mysql/
  6. Backup /Applications/MAMP/db/mysql to a zip archive (just in case)
  7. Copy in all folders and files included in the archive of the mysql folder from the production server (mt Plesk environment in my case) EXCEPT DO NOT OVERWRITE:

    -/Applications/MAMP/db/mysql/mysql/

    -/Applications/MAMP/db/mysql/mysql_upgrade_info

    -/Applications/MAMP/db/mysql/performance_schema

  8. And voila, you now should be able to access the databases from phpMyAdmin, what a relief!

But we're not done, you now need to perform a mysqldump in order to restore these files to your production environment, and the phpmyadmin interface times out for large databases. Follow the steps here:

http://nickhardeman.com/308/export-import-large-database-using-mamp-with-terminal/

Copied below for reference. Note that on a default MAMP installation, the password is "root".

How to run mysqldump for MAMP using Terminal

EXPORT DATABASE FROM MAMP[1]

Step One: Open a new terminal window

Step Two: Navigate to the MAMP install by entering the following line in terminal cd /applications/MAMP/library/bin Hit the enter key

Step Three: Write the dump command ./mysqldump -u [USERNAME] -p [DATA_BASENAME] > [PATH_TO_FILE] Hit the enter key

Example:

./mysqldump -u root -p wp_database > /Applications/MAMP/htdocs/symposium10_wp/wp_db_onezero.sql

Quick tip: to navigate to a folder quickly you can drag the folder into the terminal window and it will write the location of the folder. It was a great day when someone showed me this.

Step Four: This line of text should appear after you hit enter Enter password: So guess what, type your password, keep in mind that the letters will not appear, but they are there Hit the enter key

Step Five: Check the location of where you stored your file, if it is there, SUCCESS Now you can import the database, which will be outlined next.

Now that you have an export of your mysql database you can import it on the production environment.

"Auth Failed" error with EGit and GitHub

After spending hours looking for the solution to this problem, I finally struck gold by making the changes mentioned on an Eclipse Forum.

Steps:

Prerequisites: mysysgit is installed with default configuration.

1.Create the file C:/Users/Username/.ssh/config (Replace "Username" with your Windows 7 user name. (e.g. C:/Users/John/.ssh/config)) and put this in it:

Host github.com
HostName github.com
User git
PreferredAuthentications publickey
IdentityFile ~/.ssh/id_rsa

2.Try setting up the remote repository now in Eclipse.

Cheers. It should work perfectly.

How to access a dictionary key value present inside a list?

You haven't provided enough context to provide an accurate answer (i.e. how do you want to handle identical keys in multiple dicts?)

One answer is to iterate the list, and attempt to get 'd'

mylist = [{'a': 1, 'b': 2}, {'c': 3, 'd': 4}, {'e': 5, 'f': 6}]
myvalues = [i['d'] for i in mylist if 'd' in i]

Another answer is to access the dict directly (by list index), though you have to know that the key is present

mylist[1]['d']

How to properly ignore exceptions

try:
      doSomething()
except Exception:
    pass
else:
      stuffDoneIf()
      TryClauseSucceeds()

FYI the else clause can go after all exceptions and will only be run if the code in the try doesn't cause an exception.

1067 error on attempt to start MySQL

In my case, I have unzipped XAMPP ina a second disk on my installation, "F". When I tried to start as a service, the return was "1067". The solution was to edit my.ini, inserting the "f:" drive in the files lines. It solved the problem.

Count number of iterations in a foreach loop

Imagine a counter with an initial value of 0.

For every loop, increment the counter value by 1 using $counter = 0;

The final counter value returned by the loop will be the number of iterations of your for loop. Find the code below:

$counter = 0;
foreach ($Contents as $item) {
    $counter++;
    $item[number];// if there are 15 $item[number] in this foreach, I want get the value `: 15`
}

Try that.

Is it possible to run selenium (Firefox) web driver without a GUI?

If you want headless browser support then there is another approach you might adopt.

https://github.com/detro/ghostdriver

It was announced during Selenium Conference and it is still in development. It uses PhantomJS as the browser and is much better than HTMLUnitDriver, there are no screenshots yet, but as it is still in active development.

How to tell bash that the line continues on the next line

The character is a backslash \

From the bash manual:

The backslash character ‘\’ may be used to remove any special meaning for the next character read and for line continuation.

How to set environment variables from within package.json?

Because I often find myself working with multiple environment variables, I find it useful to keep them in a separate .env file (make sure to ignore this from your source control). Then (in Linux) prepend export $(cat .env | xargs) && in your script command before starting your app.

Example .env file:

VAR_A=Hello World
VAR_B=format the .env file like this with new vars separated by a line break

Example index.js:

console.log('Test', process.env.VAR_A, process.env.VAR_B);

Example package.json:

{
  ...
  "scripts": {
    "start": "node index.js",

    "env-linux": "export $(cat .env | xargs) && env",
    "start-linux": "export $(cat .env | xargs) && npm start",

    "env-windows": "(for /F \"tokens=*\" %i in (.env) do set %i)",
    "start-windows": "(for /F \"tokens=*\" %i in (.env) do set %i) && npm start",

  }
  ...
}

Unfortunately I can't seem to set the environment variables by calling a script from a script -- like "start-windows": "npm run env-windows && npm start" -- so there is some redundancy in the scripts.

For a test you can see the env variables by running npm run env-linux or npm run env-windows, and test that they make it into your app by running npm run start-linux or npm run start-windows.

Jar mismatch! Fix your dependencies

I agree with pjco. The best way is the official method explained in Support Library Setup in the tutorial at developer.android.com.

Then, in the Eclipse "package explorer", expand your main project and delete android-support-v4.jar from the "libs" folder (as Pratik Butani suggested).

This worked for me.

How to ignore a property in class if null, using json.net

Similar to @sirthomas's answer, JSON.NET also respects the EmitDefaultValue property on DataMemberAttribute:

[DataMember(Name="property_name", EmitDefaultValue=false)]

This may be desirable if you are already using [DataContract] and [DataMember] in your model type and don't want to add JSON.NET-specific attributes.

How to print variables without spaces between values

To build off what Martjin was saying. I'd use string interpolation/formatting.

In Python 2.x which seems to be what you're using due to the lack of parenthesis around the print function you do:

print 'Value is "%d"' % value

In Python 3.x you'd use the format method instead, so you're code would look like this.

message = 'Value is "{}"'
print(message.format(value))

Removing duplicate rows from table in Oracle

You should do a small pl/sql block using a cursor for loop and delete the rows you don't want to keep. For instance:

declare
prev_var my_table.var1%TYPE;

begin

for t in (select var1 from my_table order by var 1) LOOP

-- if previous var equal current var, delete the row, else keep on going.
end loop;

end;

Download Excel file via AJAX MVC

First Create the controller action that will create the Excel File

[HttpPost]
public JsonResult ExportExcel()
{
    DataTable dt = DataService.GetData();
    var fileName = "Excel_" + DateTime.Now.ToString("yyyyMMddHHmm") + ".xls";

    //save the file to server temp folder
    string fullPath = Path.Combine(Server.MapPath("~/temp"), fileName);

    using (var exportData = new MemoryStream())
    {
        //I don't show the detail how to create the Excel, this is not the point of this article,
        //I just use the NPOI for Excel handler
        Utility.WriteDataTableToExcel(dt, ".xls", exportData);

        FileStream file = new FileStream(fullPath, FileMode.Create, FileAccess.Write);
        exportData.WriteTo(file);
        file.Close();
    }

    var errorMessage = "you can return the errors in here!";

    //return the Excel file name
    return Json(new { fileName = fileName, errorMessage = "" });
}

then create the Download action

[HttpGet]
[DeleteFileAttribute] //Action Filter, it will auto delete the file after download,
                      //I will explain it later
public ActionResult Download(string file)
{
    //get the temp folder and file path in server
    string fullPath = Path.Combine(Server.MapPath("~/temp"), file);

    //return the file for download, this is an Excel
    //so I set the file content type to "application/vnd.ms-excel"
    return File(fullPath, "application/vnd.ms-excel", file);
}

if you want to delete the file after downloaded create this

public class DeleteFileAttribute : ActionFilterAttribute
{
    public override void OnResultExecuted(ResultExecutedContext filterContext)
    {
        filterContext.HttpContext.Response.Flush();

        //convert the current filter context to file and get the file path
        string filePath = (filterContext.Result as FilePathResult).FileName;

        //delete the file after download
        System.IO.File.Delete(filePath);
    }
}

and finally ajax call from you MVC Razor view

//I use blockUI for loading...
$.blockUI({ message: '<h3>Please wait a moment...</h3>' });
$.ajax({
    type: "POST",
    url: '@Url.Action("ExportExcel","YourController")', //call your controller and action
    contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8",
    dataType: "json",
}).done(function (data) {
    //console.log(data.result);
    $.unblockUI();

    //get the file name for download
    if (data.fileName != "") {
        //use window.location.href for redirect to download action for download the file
        window.location.href = "@Url.RouteUrl(new
            { Controller = "YourController", Action = "Download"})/?file=" + data.fileName;
    }
});

Jquery Change Height based on Browser Size/Resize

Building on Chad's answer, you also want to add that function to the onload event to ensure it is resized when the page loads as well.

jQuery.event.add(window, "load", resizeFrame);
jQuery.event.add(window, "resize", resizeFrame);

function resizeFrame()
{
    var h = $(window).height();
    var w = $(window).width();
    $("#elementToResize").css('height',(h < 768 || w < 1024) ? 500 : 400);
}

How to rename a pane in tmux?

yes you can rename pane names, and not only window names starting with tmux >= 2.3. Just type the following in your shell:

printf '\033]2;%s\033\\' 'title goes here'

you might need to add the following to your .tmux.conf to display pane names:

# Enable names for panes
set -g pane-border-status top

you can also automatically assign a name:

set -g pane-border-format "#P: #{pane_current_command}"

What is a bus error?

I believe the kernel raises SIGBUS when an application exhibits data misalignment on the data bus. I think that since most[?] modern compilers for most processors pad / align the data for the programmers, the alignment troubles of yore (at least) mitigated, and hence one does not see SIGBUS too often these days (AFAIK).

How do I add a library path in cmake?

You had better use find_library command instead of link_directories. Concretely speaking there are two ways:

  1. designate the path within the command

    find_library(NAMES gtest PATHS path1 path2 ... pathN)

  2. set the variable CMAKE_LIBRARY_PATH

    set(CMAKE_LIBRARY_PATH path1 path2)
    find_library(NAMES gtest)

the reason is as flowings:

Note This command is rarely necessary and should be avoided where there are other choices. Prefer to pass full absolute paths to libraries where possible, since this ensures the correct library will always be linked. The find_library() command provides the full path, which can generally be used directly in calls to target_link_libraries(). Situations where a library search path may be needed include: Project generators like Xcode where the user can switch target architecture at build time, but a full path to a library cannot be used because it only provides one architecture (i.e. it is not a universal binary).

Libraries may themselves have other private library dependencies that expect to be found via RPATH mechanisms, but some linkers are not able to fully decode those paths (e.g. due to the presence of things like $ORIGIN).

If a library search path must be provided, prefer to localize the effect where possible by using the target_link_directories() command rather than link_directories(). The target-specific command can also control how the search directories propagate to other dependent targets.

Renaming a branch in GitHub

In my case, I needed an additional command,

git branch --unset-upstream

to get my renamed branch to push up to origin newname.

(For ease of typing), I first git checkout oldname. Then run the following:

git branch -m newname <br/> git push origin :oldname*or*git push origin --delete oldname
git branch --unset-upstream
git push -u origin newname or git push origin newname

This extra step may only be necessary because I (tend to) set up remote tracking on my branches via git push -u origin oldname. This way, when I have oldname checked out, I subsequently only need to type git push rather than git push origin oldname.

If I do not use the command git branch --unset-upstream before git push origin newbranch, git re-creates oldbranch and pushes newbranch to origin oldbranch -- defeating my intent.

Spring: How to inject a value to static field?

Spring uses dependency injection to populate the specific value when it finds the @Value annotation. However, instead of handing the value to the instance variable, it's handed to the implicit setter instead. This setter then handles the population of our NAME_STATIC value.

    @RestController
//or if you want to declare some specific use of the properties file then use
//@Configuration
//@PropertySource({"classpath:application-${youeEnvironment}.properties"})
public class PropertyController {

    @Value("${name}")//not necessary
    private String name;//not necessary

    private static String NAME_STATIC;

    @Value("${name}")
    public void setNameStatic(String name){
        PropertyController.NAME_STATIC = name;
    }
}

Using Environment Variables with Vue.js

In vue-cli version 3:

There are the three options for .env files: Either you can use .env or:

  • .env.test
  • .env.development
  • .env.production

You can use custom .env variables by using the prefix regex as /^/ instead of /^VUE_APP_/ in /node_modules/@vue/cli-service/lib/util/resolveClientEnv.js:prefixRE

This is certainly not recommended for the sake of developing an open source app in different modes like test, development, and production of .env files. Because every time you npm install .. , it will be overridden.

UNION with WHERE clause

SELECT * FROM (SELECT colA, colB FROM tableA UNION SELECT colA, colB FROM tableB) as tableC WHERE tableC.colA > 1

If we're using a union that contains the same field name in 2 tables, then we need to give a name to the sub query as tableC(in above query). Finally, the WHERE condition should be WHERE tableC.colA > 1

Excel VBA Open a Folder

I use this to open a workbook and then copy that workbook's data to the template.

Private Sub CommandButton24_Click()
Set Template = ActiveWorkbook
 With Application.FileDialog(msoFileDialogOpen)
    .InitialFileName = "I:\Group - Finance" ' Yu can select any folder you want
    .Filters.Clear
    .Title = "Your Title"
    If Not .Show Then
        MsgBox "No file selected.": Exit Sub
    End If
    Workbooks.OpenText .SelectedItems(1)

'The below is to copy the file into a new sheet in the workbook and paste those values in sheet 1

    Set myfile = ActiveWorkbook
    ActiveWorkbook.Sheets(1).Copy after:=ThisWorkbook.Sheets(1)
    myfile.Close
    Template.Activate
    ActiveSheet.Cells.Select
    Selection.Copy
    Sheets("Sheet1").Select
    Cells.Select
    ActiveSheet.Paste

How to check if object property exists with a variable holding the property name?

Thank you for everyone's assistance and pushing to get rid of the eval statement. Variables needed to be in brackets, not dot notation. This works and is clean, proper code.

Each of these are variables: appChoice, underI, underObstr.

if(typeof tData.tonicdata[appChoice][underI][underObstr] !== "undefined"){
    //enter code here
}

Reading a text file in MATLAB line by line

You could actually use xlsread to accomplish this. After first placing your sample data above in a file 'input_file.csv', here is an example for how you can get the numeric values, text values, and the raw data in the file from the three outputs from xlsread:

>> [numData,textData,rawData] = xlsread('input_file.csv')

numData = % An array of the numeric values from the file

   51.9358    4.1833
   51.9354    4.1841
   51.9352    4.1846
   51.9343    4.1864
   51.9343    4.1864
   51.9341    4.1869

textData = % A cell array of strings for the text values from the file

    'ABC'
    'ABC'
    'ABC'
    'ABC'
    'ABC'
    'ABC'

rawData = % All the data from the file (numeric and text) in a cell array

    'ABC'    [51.9358]    [4.1833]
    'ABC'    [51.9354]    [4.1841]
    'ABC'    [51.9352]    [4.1846]
    'ABC'    [51.9343]    [4.1864]
    'ABC'    [51.9343]    [4.1864]
    'ABC'    [51.9341]    [4.1869]

You can then perform whatever processing you need to on the numeric data, then resave a subset of the rows of data to a new file using xlswrite. Here's an example:

index = sqrt(sum(numData.^2,2)) >= 50; % Find the rows where the point is
                                        % at a distance of 50 or greater
                                        %   from the origin
xlswrite('output_file.csv',rawData(index,:)); % Write those rows to a new file

When to use: Java 8+ interface default method, vs. abstract method

Remi Forax rule is You don't design with Abstract classes. You design your app with interfaces. Watever is the version of Java, whatever is the language. It is backed by the Interface segregation principle in SOLID principles.

You can later use Abstract classes to factorize code. Now with Java 8 you can do it directly in the interface. This is a facility, not more.

How to parse the AndroidManifest.xml file inside an .apk package

In case it's useful, here's a C++ version of the Java snippet posted by Ribo:

struct decompressXML

    // decompressXML -- Parse the 'compressed' binary form of Android XML docs
    // such as for AndroidManifest.xml in .apk files

    };

    decompressXML(const BYTE* xml, int cb) {

How to make space between LinearLayout children?

The API >= 11 solution:

You can integrate the padding into divider. In case you were using none, just create a tall empty drawable and set it as LinearLayout's divider:

    <LinearLayout
            android:showDividers="middle"
            android:divider="@drawable/empty_tall_divider"
...>...</LinearLayout>

empty_tall_divider.xml:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>

<shape xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
    <size
            android:height="40dp"
            android:width="0dp"/>
</shape>

How to check for changes on remote (origin) Git repository

You could git fetch origin to update the remote branch in your repository to point to the latest version. For a diff against the remote:

git diff origin/master

Yes, you can use caret notation as well.

If you want to accept the remote changes:

git merge origin/master

How do I get the domain originating the request in express.js?

Recently faced a problem with fetching 'Origin' request header, then I found this question. But pretty confused with the results, req.get('host') is deprecated, that's why giving Undefined. Use,

    req.header('Origin');
    req.header('Host');
    // this method can be used to access other request headers like, 'Referer', 'User-Agent' etc.

Rollback one specific migration in Laravel

It's quite easy to roll back just a specific migration.
Since the command php artisan migrate:rollback, undo the last database migration, and the order of the migrations execution is stored in the batch field in the migrations table.

You can edit the batch value of the migration that you want to rollback and set it as the higher. Then you can rollback that migration with a simple:

php artisan migrate:rollback

After editing the same migration you can execute it again with a simple

php artisan migrate

NOTICE: if two or more migrations have the same higher value, they will be all rolled back at the same time.

How to find out what character key is pressed?

There are a million duplicates of this question on here, but here goes again anyway:

document.onkeypress = function(evt) {
    evt = evt || window.event;
    var charCode = evt.keyCode || evt.which;
    var charStr = String.fromCharCode(charCode);
    alert(charStr);
};

Can a PDF file's print dialog be opened with Javascript?

If you know how PDF files are structured (or are willing to spend a little while reading the spec), you can do it this way.

Use the Named Action "Print" in the OpenAction field of the Catalog object; the "Print" action is undocumented, but Acrobat Reader and most of the other major readers understand it. A nice benefit of this approach is that you don't get any JavaScript warnings. See here for details: http://www.gnostice.com/nl_article.asp?id=157

To make it even shinier, I added a second Action, URI, directing the reader to go back to the page that originated the request. Then I attached this Action to the first Named action using its Next field. With content disposition set to "inline", this makes it so that when the user clicks on the print link:

  1. It opens up Adobe Reader in the same tab and loads the file
  2. It immediately shows the print dialog
  3. As soon as the Print dialog is closed (whether they hit "OK" or "cancel"), the browser tab goes back to the webpage

I was able to do all these changes in Ruby easily enough using only the File and IO modules; I opened the PDF I had generated with an external tool, followed the xref to the existing Catalog section, then appended a new section onto the PDF with an updated Catalog object containing my special OpenAction line, and also the new Action objects.

Because of PDF's incremental revision features, you don't have to make any changes to the existing data to do this, just append an additional section to the end.

Python Tkinter clearing a frame

For clear frame, first need to destroy all widgets inside the frame,. it will clear frame.

import tkinter as tk
from tkinter import *
root = tk.Tk()

frame = Frame(root)
frame.pack(side="top", expand=True, fill="both")

lab = Label(frame, text="hiiii")
lab.grid(row=0, column=0, padx=10, pady=5)

def clearFrame():
    # destroy all widgets from frame
    for widget in frame.winfo_children():
       widget.destroy()

    # this will clear frame and frame will be empty
    # if you want to hide the empty panel then
    frame.pack_forget()

frame.but = Button(frame, text="clear frame", command=clearFrame)
frame.but.grid(row=0, column=1, padx=10, pady=5)

# then whenever you add data in frame then you can show that frame
lab2 = Label(frame, text="hiiii")
lab2.grid(row=1, column=0, padx=10, pady=5)
frame.pack()
root.mainloop()

CHECK constraint in MySQL is not working

Update to MySQL 8.0.16 to use checks:

As of MySQL 8.0.16, CREATE TABLE permits the core features of table and column CHECK constraints, for all storage engines. CREATE TABLE permits the following CHECK constraint syntax, for both table constraints and column constraints

What is the difference between explicit and implicit cursors in Oracle?

An explicit cursor is one you declare, like:

CURSOR my_cursor IS
  SELECT table_name FROM USER_TABLES

An implicit cursor is one created to support any in-line SQL you write (either static or dynamic).

(XML) The markup in the document following the root element must be well-formed. Start location: 6:2

In XML there can be only one root element - you have two - heading and song.

If you restructure to something like:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<song>
 <heading>
 The Twelve Days of Christmas
 </heading>
 ....
</song>

The error about well-formed XML on the root level should disappear (though there may be other issues).

Display a angular variable in my html page

In your template, you have access to all the variables that are members of the current $scope. So, tobedone should be $scope.tobedone, and then you can display it with {{tobedone}}, or [[tobedone]] in your case.

docker cannot start on windows

I too faced error which says

"Access is denied. In the default daemon configuration on Windows, the docker client must be run elevated to connect. This error may also indicate that the docker daemon is not running."

Resolved this by running "powershell" in administrator mode.

This solution will help those who uses two users on one windows machine

How to strip a specific word from a string?

If want to remove the word from only the start of the string, then you could do:

  string[string.startswith(prefix) and len(prefix):]

Where string is your string variable and prefix is the prefix you want to remove from your string variable.

For example:

  >>> papa = "papa is a good man. papa is the best."
  >>> prefix = 'papa'
  >>> papa[papa.startswith(prefix) and len(prefix):]
  ' is a good man. papa is the best.'

Effective way to find any file's Encoding

Look here for c#

https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.io.streamreader.currentencoding%28v=vs.110%29.aspx

string path = @"path\to\your\file.ext";

using (StreamReader sr = new StreamReader(path, true))
{
    while (sr.Peek() >= 0)
    {
        Console.Write((char)sr.Read());
    }

    //Test for the encoding after reading, or at least
    //after the first read.
    Console.WriteLine("The encoding used was {0}.", sr.CurrentEncoding);
    Console.ReadLine();
    Console.WriteLine();
}

Groovy Shell warning "Could not open/create prefs root node ..."

This is actually a JDK bug. It has been reported several times over the years, but only in 8139507 was it finally taken seriously by Oracle.

The problem was in the JDK source code for WindowsPreferences.java. In this class, both nodes userRoot and systemRoot were declared static as in:

/**
 * User root node.
 */
static final Preferences userRoot =
     new WindowsPreferences(USER_ROOT_NATIVE_HANDLE, WINDOWS_ROOT_PATH);

/**
 * System root node.
 */
static final Preferences systemRoot =
    new WindowsPreferences(SYSTEM_ROOT_NATIVE_HANDLE, WINDOWS_ROOT_PATH);

This means that the first time the class is referenced both static variables would be initiated and by this the Registry Key for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\JavaSoft\Prefs (= system tree) will be attempted to be created if it doesn't already exist.

So even if the user took every precaution in his own code and never touched or referenced the system tree, then the JVM would actually still try to instantiate systemRoot, thus causing the warning. It is an interesting subtle bug.

There's a fix committed to the JDK source in June 2016 and it is part of Java9 onwards. There's also a backport for Java8 which is in u202.

What you see is really a warning from the JDK's internal logger. It is not an exception. I believe that the warning can be safely ignored .... unless the user code is indeed wanting the system preferences, but that is very rarely the case.

Bonus info

The bug did not reveal itself in versions prior to Java 1.7.21, because up until then the JRE installer would create Registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\JavaSoft\Prefs for you and this would effectively hide the bug. On the other hand you've never really been required to run an installer in order to have a JRE on your machine, or at least this hasn't been Sun/Oracle's intent. As you may be aware Oracle has been distributing the JRE for Windows in .tar.gz format for many years.

How to make an HTTP get request with parameters

The WebRequest object seems like too much work for me. I prefer to use the WebClient control.

To use this function you just need to create two NameValueCollections holding your parameters and request headers.

Consider the following function:

    private static string DoGET(string URL,NameValueCollection QueryStringParameters = null, NameValueCollection RequestHeaders = null)
    {
        string ResponseText = null;
        using (WebClient client = new WebClient())
        {
            try
            {
                if (RequestHeaders != null)
                {
                    if (RequestHeaders.Count > 0)
                    {
                        foreach (string header in RequestHeaders.AllKeys)
                            client.Headers.Add(header, RequestHeaders[header]);
                    }
                }
                if (QueryStringParameters != null)
                {
                    if (QueryStringParameters.Count > 0)
                    {
                        foreach (string parm in QueryStringParameters.AllKeys)
                            client.QueryString.Add(parm, QueryStringParameters[parm]);
                    }
                }
                byte[] ResponseBytes = client.DownloadData(URL);
                ResponseText = Encoding.UTF8.GetString(ResponseBytes);
            }
            catch (WebException exception)
            {
                if (exception.Response != null)
                {
                    var responseStream = exception.Response.GetResponseStream();

                    if (responseStream != null)
                    {
                        using (var reader = new StreamReader(responseStream))
                        {
                            Response.Write(reader.ReadToEnd());
                        }
                    }
                }
            }
        }
        return ResponseText;
    }

Add your querystring parameters (if required) as a NameValueCollection like so.

        NameValueCollection QueryStringParameters = new NameValueCollection();
        QueryStringParameters.Add("id", "123");
        QueryStringParameters.Add("category", "A");

Add your http headers (if required) as a NameValueCollection like so.

        NameValueCollection RequestHttpHeaders = new NameValueCollection();
        RequestHttpHeaders.Add("Authorization", "Basic bGF3c2912XBANzg5ITppc2ltCzEF");

Use JavaScript to place cursor at end of text in text input element

Still the intermediate variable is needed, (see var val=) else the cursor behaves strange, we need it at the end.

<body onload="document.getElementById('userinput').focus();">
<form>
<input id="userinput" onfocus="var val=this.value; this.value=''; this.value= val;"
         class=large type="text" size="10" maxlength="50" value="beans" name="myinput">
</form>
</body>

Get url without querystring

You can use System.Uri

Uri url = new Uri("http://www.example.com/mypage.aspx?myvalue1=hello&myvalue2=goodbye");
string path = String.Format("{0}{1}{2}{3}", url.Scheme,
    Uri.SchemeDelimiter, url.Authority, url.AbsolutePath);

Or you can use substring

string url = "http://www.example.com/mypage.aspx?myvalue1=hello&myvalue2=goodbye";
string path = url.Substring(0, url.IndexOf("?"));

EDIT: Modifying the first solution to reflect brillyfresh's suggestion in the comments.

Multiple WHERE Clauses with LINQ extension methods

Just use the && operator like you would with any other statement that you need to do boolean logic.

if (useAdditionalClauses)
{
  results = results.Where(
                  o => o.OrderStatus == OrderStatus.Open
                  && o.CustomerID == customerID)
}

How can I create a marquee effect?

With a small change of the markup, here's my approach (I've just inserted a span inside the paragraph):

_x000D_
_x000D_
.marquee {
  width: 450px;
  margin: 0 auto;
  overflow: hidden;

No hardcoded values — dependent on paragraph width — have been inserted.

The animation applies the CSS3 transform property (use prefixes where needed) so it performs well.

If you need to insert a delay just once at the beginning then also set an animation-delay. If you need instead to insert a small delay at every loop then try to play with an higher padding-left (e.g. 150%)

Get an object attribute

Use getattr if you have an attribute in string form:

>>> class User(object):
       name = 'John'

>>> u = User()
>>> param = 'name'
>>> getattr(u, param)
'John'

Otherwise use the dot .:

>>> class User(object):
       name = 'John'

>>> u = User()
>>> u.name
'John'

What is the use of static variable in C#? When to use it? Why can't I declare the static variable inside method?

C# haven't static variables at all. You can declare static field in the particular type definition via C#. Static field is a state, shared with all instances of particular type. Hence, the scope of the static field is entire type. That's why you can't declare static field within a method - method is a scope itself, and items declared in a method must be inaccessible over the method's border.

Java - Opposite of .contains (does not contain)

It seems that Luiggi Mendoza and joey rohan both already answered this, but I think it can be clarified a little.

You can write it as a single if statement:

    // do something
}

Filtering DataSet

The above were really close. Here's my solution:

Private Sub getDsClone(ByRef inClone As DataSet, ByVal matchStr As String, ByRef outClone As DataSet)
    Dim i As Integer

    outClone = inClone.Clone
    Dim dv As DataView = inClone.Tables(0).DefaultView
    dv.RowFilter = matchStr
    Dim dt As New DataTable
    dt = dv.ToTable
    For i = 0 To dv.Count - 1
        outClone.Tables(0).ImportRow(dv.Item(i).Row)
    Next
End Sub

Java Immutable Collections

Unmodifiable collections are usually read-only views (wrappers) of other collections. You can't add, remove or clear them, but the underlying collection can change.

Immutable collections can't be changed at all - they don't wrap another collection - they have their own elements.

Here's a quote from guava's ImmutableList

Unlike Collections.unmodifiableList(java.util.List<? extends T>), which is a view of a separate collection that can still change, an instance of ImmutableList contains its own private data and will never change.

So, basically, in order to get an immutable collection out of a mutable one, you have to copy its elements to the new collection, and disallow all operations.

How to get jQuery to wait until an effect is finished?

You can specify a callback function:

$(selector).fadeOut('slow', function() {
    // will be called when the element finishes fading out
    // if selector matches multiple elements it will be called once for each
});

Pandas DataFrame column to list

I'd like to clarify a few things:

  1. As other answers have pointed out, the simplest thing to do is use pandas.Series.tolist(). I'm not sure why the top voted answer leads off with using pandas.Series.values.tolist() since as far as I can tell, it adds syntax/confusion with no added benefit.
  2. tst[lookupValue][['SomeCol']] is a dataframe (as stated in the question), not a series (as stated in a comment to the question). This is because tst[lookupValue] is a dataframe, and slicing it with [['SomeCol']] asks for a list of columns (that list that happens to have a length of 1), resulting in a dataframe being returned. If you remove the extra set of brackets, as in tst[lookupValue]['SomeCol'], then you are asking for just that one column rather than a list of columns, and thus you get a series back.
  3. You need a series to use pandas.Series.tolist(), so you should definitely skip the second set of brackets in this case. FYI, if you ever end up with a one-column dataframe that isn't easily avoidable like this, you can use pandas.DataFrame.squeeze() to convert it to a series.
  4. tst[lookupValue]['SomeCol'] is getting a subset of a particular column via chained slicing. It slices once to get a dataframe with only certain rows left, and then it slices again to get a certain column. You can get away with it here since you are just reading, not writing, but the proper way to do it is tst.loc[lookupValue, 'SomeCol'] (which returns a series).
  5. Using the syntax from #4, you could reasonably do everything in one line: ID = tst.loc[tst['SomeCol'] == 'SomeValue', 'SomeCol'].tolist()

Demo Code:

import pandas as pd
df = pd.DataFrame({'colA':[1,2,1],
                   'colB':[4,5,6]})
filter_value = 1

print "df"
print df
print type(df)

rows_to_keep = df['colA'] == filter_value
print "\ndf['colA'] == filter_value"
print rows_to_keep
print type(rows_to_keep)

result = df[rows_to_keep]['colB']
print "\ndf[rows_to_keep]['colB']"
print result
print type(result)

result = df[rows_to_keep][['colB']]
print "\ndf[rows_to_keep][['colB']]"
print result
print type(result)

result = df[rows_to_keep][['colB']].squeeze()
print "\ndf[rows_to_keep][['colB']].squeeze()"
print result
print type(result)

result = df.loc[rows_to_keep, 'colB']
print "\ndf.loc[rows_to_keep, 'colB']"
print result
print type(result)

result = df.loc[df['colA'] == filter_value, 'colB']
print "\ndf.loc[df['colA'] == filter_value, 'colB']"
print result
print type(result)

ID = df.loc[rows_to_keep, 'colB'].tolist()
print "\ndf.loc[rows_to_keep, 'colB'].tolist()"
print ID
print type(ID)

ID = df.loc[df['colA'] == filter_value, 'colB'].tolist()
print "\ndf.loc[df['colA'] == filter_value, 'colB'].tolist()"
print ID
print type(ID)

Result:

df
   colA  colB
0     1     4
1     2     5
2     1     6

Printf long long int in C with GCC?

If you are on windows and using mingw, gcc uses the win32 runtime, where printf needs %I64d for a 64 bit integer. (and %I64u for an unsinged 64 bit integer)

For most other platforms you'd use %lld for printing a long long. (and %llu if it's unsigned). This is standarized in C99.

gcc doesn't come with a full C runtime, it defers to the platform it's running on - so the general case is that you need to consult the documentation for your particular platform - independent of gcc.

How to remove an unpushed outgoing commit in Visual Studio?

You have 2 options here to do that either to discard all your outgoing commits OR to undo specific commit ..

1- Discard all your outgoing commits:

To discard all your outgoing commits For example if you have local branch named master from remote branch, You can:

1- Rename your local branch from master to anything so you can remove it. 2- Remove the renamed branch. 3- create new branch from the master

So now you have a new branch without your commits ..

2- Undo specific commit: To undo specific commit you have to revert the unneeded by:

1- Double click on the unneeded commit. Double click on the unneeded commit 2- Click on revert Click on revert

But FYI the reverted commit will appear in the history of your commits with the revert commit ..

How to set column header text for specific column in Datagridview C#

If you work with visual studio designer, you will probably have defined fields for each columns in the YourForm.Designer.cs file e.g.:

private System.Windows.Forms.DataGridViewCheckBoxColumn dataGridViewCheckBoxColumn1;
private System.Windows.Forms.DataGridViewTextBoxColumn dataGridViewTextBoxColumn2;

If you give them useful names, you can set the HeaderText easily:

usefulNameForDataGridViewTextBoxColumn.HeaderText = "Useful Header Text";

The ScriptManager must appear before any controls that need it

It simply wants the ASP control on your ASPX page. I usually place mine right under the tag, or inside first Content area in the master's body (if your using a master page)

<body>
    <form id="form1" runat="server">
        <asp:ScriptManager ID="scriptManager" runat="server"></asp:ScriptManager>
        <div>
            [Content]
        </div>
    </form>
</body>

Failed to find Build Tools revision 23.0.1

Two solutions: You have to instal the required buildToolVersion or set it as described above.
Notice that if you are trying to set the buildToolsVersion "23.0.3" using Android Studio 3.0 or more it won't work until you remove all builversion you have keeping just one last version you use. I read this somewhere else and this works for me. Hope this helps.

How to search for an element in a golang slice

You can use sort.Slice() plus sort.Search()

type Person struct {
    Name string
}

func main() {
    crowd := []Person{{"Zoey"}, {"Anna"}, {"Benni"}, {"Chris"}}

    sort.Slice(crowd, func(i, j int) bool {

    })

    needle := "Benni"
    idx := sort.Search(len(crowd), func(i int) bool {
        return string(crowd[i].Name) >= needle
    })

    if crowd[idx].Name == needle {

How to initialize a struct in accordance with C programming language standards

You can do it with a compound literal. According to that page, it works in C99 (which also counts as ANSI C).

MY_TYPE a;

a = (MY_TYPE) { .flag = true, .value = 123, .stuff = 0.456 };
...
a = (MY_TYPE) { .value = 234, .stuff = 1.234, .flag = false };

The designations in the initializers are optional; you could also write:

a = (MY_TYPE) { true,  123, 0.456 };
...
a = (MY_TYPE) { false, 234, 1.234 };

Remove ListView items in Android

You can use

adapter.clear()

that will remove all item of your first adapter then you could either set another adapter or reuse the adapter and add the items to the old adapter. If you use

adapter.add()

to add data to your list you don't need to call notifyDataSetChanged

Get keys of a Typescript interface as array of strings

I had a similar problem that I had a giant list of properties that I wanted to have both an interface, and an object out of it.

NOTE: I didn't want to write (type with keyboard) the properties twice! Just DRY.

One thing to note here is, interfaces are enforced types at compile-time, while objects are mostly run-time. (Source)

As @derek mentioned in another answer, the common denominator of interface and object can be a class that serves both a type and a value.

So, TL;DR, the following piece of code should satisfy the needs:

class MyTableClass {
    // list the propeties here, ONLY WRITTEN ONCE
    id = "";
    title = "";
    isDeleted = false;
}

// ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

// This is the pure interface version, to be used/exported
interface IMyTable extends MyTableClass { };

// ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

// Props type as an array, to be exported
type MyTablePropsArray = Array<keyof IMyTable>;

// Props array itself!
const propsArray: MyTablePropsArray =
    Object.keys(new MyTableClass()) as MyTablePropsArray;

console.log(propsArray); // prints out  ["id", "title", "isDeleted"]

// ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

// Example of creating a pure instance as an object
const tableInstance: MyTableClass = { // works properly!
    id: "3",
    title: "hi",
    isDeleted: false,
};

(Here is the above code in Typescript Playground to play more)

PS. If you don't want to assign initial values to the properties in the class, and stay with the type, you can do the constructor trick:

class MyTableClass {
    // list the propeties here, ONLY WRITTEN ONCE
    constructor(
        readonly id?: string,
        readonly title?: string,
        readonly isDeleted?: boolean,
    ) {}
}

console.log(Object.keys(new MyTableClass())); // prints out ["id", "title", "isDeleted"]

Constructor Trick in TypeScript Playground.

How to check if user input is not an int value

Maybe you can try this:

int function(){
Scanner input = new Scanner(System.in);
System.out.print("Enter an integer between 1-100: ");
int range;
while(true){
    if(input.hasNextInt()){
    range = input.nextInt();
    if(0<=range && range <= 100)
        break;
    else
        continue;
    }
    input.nextLine();  //Comsume the garbage value
    System.out.println("Enter an integer between 1-100:");
}
return range;
}

Why is a ConcurrentModificationException thrown and how to debug it

Changing navigation title programmatically

I prefer using self.navigationItem.title = "Your Title Here" over self.title = "Your Title Here" to provide title in the navigation bar since tab bar also uses self.title to alter its title. You should try the following code once.

Note: calling the super view lifecycle is necessary before you do any stuffs.

class ViewController: UIViewController {
    override func viewDidLoad() {
        super.viewDidLoad()
        setupNavBar()
    }
}

private func setupNavBar() {
    self.navigationItem.title = "Your Title Here"
}

HTTP 404 Page Not Found in Web Api hosted in IIS 7.5

In my case, the issue was simply that I was trying to access the site at

myserver.myintranet.com/mysite

But the web site binding for http in IIS didn't have the host name specified in the binding. It had worked before and I have no idea how that got blown away.

Once I put myserver.myintranet.com into the host name the 404 was gone.

In IIS Manager you go into Bindings... in the actions pane, then edit the http binding to specify the host name.

Best way to "negate" an instanceof

ok just my two cents, use a is string method:

public static boolean isString(Object thing) {
    return thing instanceof String;
}

public void someMethod(Object thing){
    if (!isString(thing)) {

JQuery $.each() JSON array object iteration

Assign the second variable for the $.each function() as well, makes it lot easier as it'll provide you the data (so you won't have to work with the indicies).

$.each(json, function(arrayID,group) {
            console.log('<a href="'+group.GROUP_ID+'">');
    $.each(group.EVENTS, function(eventID,eventData) {
            console.log('<p>'+eventData.SHORT_DESC+'</p>');
     });
});

Should print out everything you were trying in your question.

edit renamed the variables to make it bit easier to understand what is what.

Regex remove all special characters except numbers?

Use the global flag:

var name = name.replace(/[^a-zA-Z ]/g, "");
                                    ^

If you don't want to remove numbers, add it to the class:

var name = name.replace(/[^a-zA-Z0-9 ]/g, "");

How to assert two list contain the same elements in Python?

As of Python 3.2 unittest.TestCase.assertItemsEqual(doc) has been replaced by unittest.TestCase.assertCountEqual(doc) which does exactly what you are looking for, as you can read from the python standard library documentation. The method is somewhat misleadingly named but it does exactly what you are looking for.

a and b have the same elements in the same number, regardless of their order

Here a simple example which compares two lists having the same elements but in a different order.

  • using assertCountEqual the test will succeed
  • using assertListEqual the test will fail due to the order difference of the two lists

Here a little example script.

import unittest

class TestListElements(unittest.TestCase):
    def setUp(self):
        self.expected = ['foo', 'bar', 'baz']
        self.result = ['baz', 'foo', 'bar']

    def test_count_eq(self):
        """Will succeed"""
        self.assertCountEqual(self.result, self.expected)

    def test_list_eq(self):
        """Will fail"""
        self.assertListEqual(self.result, self.expected)

if __name__ == "__main__":
    unittest.main()

Side Note : Please make sure that the elements in the lists you are comparing are sortable.

Differences between "java -cp" and "java -jar"?

With the -cp argument you provide the classpath i.e. path(s) to additional classes or libraries that your program may require when being compiled or run. With -jar you specify the executable JAR file that you want to run.

You can't specify them both. If you try to run java -cp folder/myexternallibrary.jar -jar myprogram.jar then it won't really work. The classpath for that JAR should be specified in its Manifest, not as a -cp argument.

You can find more about this here and here.

PS: -cp and -classpath are synonyms.

In Powershell what is the idiomatic way of converting a string to an int?

Building up on Shavy Levy answer:

[bool]($var -as [int])

Because $null is evaluated to false (in bool), this statement Will give you true or false depending if the casting succeeds or not.

How to type ":" ("colon") in regexp?

How to enable C++11/C++0x support in Eclipse CDT?

I solved it this way on a Mac. I used Homebrew to install the latest version of gcc/g++. They land in /usr/local/bin with includes in /usr/local/include.

I CD'd into /usr/local/bin and made a symlink from g++@7whatever to just g++ cause that @ bit is annoying.

Then I went to MyProject -> Properties -> C/C++ Build -> Settings -> GCC C++ Compiler and changed the command from "g++" to "/usr/local/bin/g++". If you decide not to make the symbolic link, you can be more specific.

Do the same thing for the linker.

Apply and Apply and Close. Let it rebuild the index. For a while, it showed a daunting number of errors, but I think that was while building indexes. While I was figuring out the errors, they all disappeared without further action.

I think without verifying that you could also go into Eclipse -> Properties -> C/C++ -> Core Build Toolchains and edit those with different paths, but I'm not sure what that will do.

Difference between signed / unsigned char

Representation is the same, the meaning is different. e.g, 0xFF, it both represented as "FF". When it is treated as "char", it is negative number -1; but it is 255 as unsigned. When it comes to bit shifting, it is a big difference since the sign bit is not shifted. e.g, if you shift 255 right 1 bit, it will get 127; shifting "-1" right will be no effect.

Run jQuery function onclick

Why do you need to attach it to the HTML? Just bind the function with hover

$("div.system_box").hover(function(){ mousin },
                          function() { mouseout });

If you do insist to have JS references inside the html, which is usualy a bad idea you can use:

onmouseover="yourJavaScriptCode()"

after topic edit:

<div class="system_box" data-target="sms_box">

...

$("div.system_box").click(function(){ slideonlyone($(this).attr("data-target")); });

Convert a string to an enum in C#

You can use extension methods now:

public static T ToEnum<T>(this string value, bool ignoreCase = true)
{
    return (T) Enum.Parse(typeof (T), value, ignoreCase);
}

And you can call them by the below code (here, FilterType is an enum type):

FilterType filterType = type.ToEnum<FilterType>();

How to atomically delete keys matching a pattern using Redis

FYI.

  • only using bash and redis-cli
  • not using keys (this uses scan)
  • works well in cluster mode
  • not atomic

Maybe you only need to modify capital characters.

scan-match.sh

#!/bin/bash
rcli="/YOUR_PATH/redis-cli"
default_server="YOUR_SERVER"
default_port="YOUR_PORT"
servers=`$rcli -h $default_server -p $default_port cluster nodes | grep master | awk '{print $2}' | sed 's/:.*//'`
if [ x"$1" == "x" ]; then
    startswith="DEFAULT_PATTERN"
else
    startswith="$1"
fi
MAX_BUFFER_SIZE=1000
for server in $servers; do
    cursor=0
    while
        r=`$rcli -h $server -p $default_port scan $cursor match "$startswith*" count $MAX_BUFFER_SIZE `
        cursor=`echo $r | cut -f 1 -d' '`
        nf=`echo $r | awk '{print NF}'`
        if [ $nf -gt 1 ]; then
            for x in `echo $r | cut -f 1 -d' ' --complement`; do
                echo $x

    done
done

PL/SQL print out ref cursor returned by a stored procedure

Note: This code is untested

Define a record for your refCursor return type, call it rec. For example:

TYPE MyRec IS RECORD (col1 VARCHAR2(10), col2 VARCHAR2(20), ...);  --define the record
rec MyRec; -- instantiate the record

Once you have the refcursor returned from your procedure, you can add the following code where your comments are now:

LOOP
  FETCH refCursor INTO rec;
  EXIT WHEN refCursor%NOTFOUND;
  dbms_output.put_line(rec.col1||','||rec.col2||','||...);
END LOOP;

Formatting ISODate from Mongodb

JavaScript's Date object supports the ISO date format, so as long as you have access to the date string, you can do something like this:

> foo = new Date("2012-07-14T01:00:00+01:00")
Sat, 14 Jul 2012 00:00:00 GMT
> foo.toTimeString()
'17:00:00 GMT-0700 (MST)'

If you want the time string without the seconds and the time zone then you can call the getHours() and getMinutes() methods on the Date object and format the time yourself.

Best way to do multi-row insert in Oracle?

This works in Oracle:

insert into pager (PAG_ID,PAG_PARENT,PAG_NAME,PAG_ACTIVE)
          select 8000,0,'Multi 8000',1 from dual
union all select 8001,0,'Multi 8001',1 from dual

The thing to remember here is to use the from dual statement.

How to select lines between two marker patterns which may occur multiple times with awk/sed

Use awk with a flag to trigger the print when necessary:

$ awk '/abc/{flag=1;next}/mno/{flag=0}flag' file
def1
ghi1
jkl1
def2
ghi2
jkl2

How does this work?

  • /abc/ matches lines having this text, as well as /mno/ does.
  • /abc/{flag=1;next} sets the flag when the text abc is found. Then, it skips the line.
  • /mno/{flag=0} unsets the flag when the text mno is found.
  • The final flag is a pattern with the default action, which is to print $0: if flag is equal 1 the line is printed.

For a more detailed description and examples, together with cases when the patterns are either shown or not, see How to select lines between two patterns?.

Multiple Inheritance in C#

If X inherits from Y, that has two somewhat orthogonal effects:

  1. Y will provide default functionality for X, so the code for X only has to include stuff which is different from Y.
  2. Almost anyplace a Y would be expected, an X may be used instead.

Although inheritance provides for both features, it is not hard to imagine circumstances where either could be of use without the other. No .net language I know of has a direct way of implementing the first without the second, though one could obtain such functionality by defining a base class which is never used directly, and having one or more classes that inherit directly from it without adding anything new (such classes could share all their code, but would not be substitutable for each other). Any CLR-compliant language, however, will allow the use of interfaces which provide the second feature of interfaces (substitutability) without the first (member reuse).

Anaconda Navigator won't launch (windows 10)

I tried the following @janny loco's answer first and then reset anaconda to get it to work.

Step 1:

activate root
conda update -n root conda
conda update --all

Step 2:

anaconda-navigator --reset

After running the update commands in step 1 and not seeing any success, I reset anaconda by running the command above based on what I found here.

I am not sure if it was the combination of updating conda and reseting the navigator or just one of the two. So, please try accordingly.

Choosing line type and color in Gnuplot 4.0

You might want to look at the Pyxplot plotting package http://pyxplot.org.uk which has very similar syntax to gnuplot, but with the rough edges cleaned up. It handles colors and line styles quite neatly, and homogeneously between x11 and eps/pdf terminals.

The Pyxplot script for what you want to do above would be:

set style 1 lt 1 lw 3 color red
set style 2 lt 1 lw 3 color blue
set style 3 lt 2 lw 3 color red
set style 4 lt 2 lw 3 color blue
plot 'data1.dat' using 1:3 w l style 1,\
  'data1.dat' using 1:4 w l style 2,\
  'data2.dat' using 1:3 w l style 3,\
  'data2.dat' using 1:4 w l style 4`
