Problems with entering Git commit message with Vim

If it is VIM for Windows, you can do the following:

  • enter your message following the presented guidelines
  • press Esc to make sure you are out of the insert mode
  • then type :wqEnter or ZZ.

Note that in VIM there are often several ways to do one thing. Here there is a slight difference though. :wqEnter always writes the current file before closing it, while ZZ, :xEnter, :xiEnter, :xitEnter, :exiEnter and :exitEnter only write it if the document is modified.
All these synonyms just have different numbers of keypresses.

How to return data from PHP to a jQuery ajax call

It's an argument passed to your success function:

$.ajax({
  type: "POST",
  url: "somescript.php",
  datatype: "html",
  data: dataString,
  success: function(data) {
    alert(data);
    }
});

The full signature is success(data, textStatus, XMLHttpRequest), but you can use just he first argument if it's a simple string coming back. As always, see the docs for a full explanation :)

How do I set GIT_SSL_NO_VERIFY for specific repos only?

how do I create an array in jquery?

Microsoft Visual C++ Compiler for Python 3.4

Visual Studio Community 2015 suffices to build extensions for Python 3.5. It's free but a 6 GB download (overkill). On my computer it installed vcvarsall at C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 14.0\VC\vcvarsall.bat

For Python 3.4 you'd need Visual Studio 2010. I don't think there's any free edition. See https://matthew-brett.github.io/pydagogue/python_msvc.html

Span inside anchor or anchor inside span or doesn't matter?

It is perfectly valid (at least by HTML 4.01 and XHTML 1.0 standards) to nest either a <span> inside an <a> or an <a> inside a <span>.

Just to prove it to yourself, you can always check it out an the W3C MarkUp Validation Service

I tried validating:

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/strict.dtd">
  <html>
    <head>
      <title>Title</title>
    </head>
    <body>
       <p>
         <a href="http://www.google.com/"><span>Google</span></a>
       </p>
    </body>
  </html>

And also the same as above, but with the <a> inside the <span>

i.e.

<span><a href="http://www.google.com">Google</a></span>

with both HTML 4.01 and XHTML 1.0 doctypes, and both passed validation successfully!

Only thing to be aware of is to ensure that you close the tags in the correct order. So if you start with a <span> then an <a>, make sure you close the <a> tag first before closing the <span> and vice-versa.

Can I set background image and opacity in the same property?

finding first day of the month in python

The arrow module will steer you around and away from subtle mistakes, and it's easier to use that older products.

import arrow

def cleanWay(oneDate):
    if currentDate.date().day > 25:
        return currentDate.replace(months=+1,day=1)
    else:
        return currentDate.replace(day=1)

currentDate = arrow.get('25-Feb-2017', 'DD-MMM-YYYY')
print (currentDate.format('DD-MMM-YYYY'), cleanWay(currentDate).format('DD-MMM-YYYY'))

currentDate = arrow.get('28-Feb-2017', 'DD-MMM-YYYY')
print (currentDate.format('DD-MMM-YYYY'), cleanWay(currentDate).format('DD-MMM-YYYY'))

In this case there is no need for you to consider the varying lengths of months, for instance. Here's the output from this script.

25-Feb-2017 01-Feb-2017
28-Feb-2017 01-Mar-2017

What are CN, OU, DC in an LDAP search?

What are CN, OU, DC?

From RFC2253 (UTF-8 String Representation of Distinguished Names):

String  X.500 AttributeType
------------------------------
CN      commonName
L       localityName
ST      stateOrProvinceName
O       organizationName
OU      organizationalUnitName
C       countryName
STREET  streetAddress
DC      domainComponent
UID     userid

What does the string from that query mean?

The string ("CN=Dev-India,OU=Distribution Groups,DC=gp,DC=gl,DC=google,DC=com") is a path from an hierarchical structure (DIT = Directory Information Tree) and should be read from right (root) to left (leaf).

It is a DN (Distinguished Name) (a series of comma-separated key/value pairs used to identify entries uniquely in the directory hierarchy). The DN is actually the entry's fully qualified name.

Here you can see an example where I added some more possible entries.
The actual path is represented using green.

LDAP tree

The following paths represent DNs (and their value depends on what you want to get after the query is run):

  • "DC=gp,DC=gl,DC=google,DC=com"
  • "OU=Distribution Groups,DC=gp,DC=gl,DC=google,DC=com"
  • "OU=People,DC=gp,DC=gl,DC=google,DC=com"
  • "OU=Groups,DC=gp,DC=gl,DC=google,DC=com"
  • "CN=QA-Romania,OU=Distribution Groups,DC=gp,DC=gl,DC=google,DC=com"
  • "CN=Dev-India,OU=Distribution Groups,DC=gp,DC=gl,DC=google,DC=com"
  • "CN=Diana Anton,OU=People,DC=gp,DC=gl,DC=google,DC=com"

Could not create SSL/TLS secure channel, despite setting ServerCertificateValidationCallback

We have been solving the same problem just today, and all you need to do is to increase the runtime version of .NET

4.5.2 didn't work for us with the above problem, while 4.6.1 was OK

If you need to keep the .NET version, then set

ServicePointManager.SecurityProtocol = SecurityProtocolType.Ssl3 | SecurityProtocolType.Tls | SecurityProtocolType.Tls11 | SecurityProtocolType.Tls12;

Linker Command failed with exit code 1 (use -v to see invocation), Xcode 8, Swift 3

In my case, I was producing multiple products from the same project. For one of the products, the main.m file imported a header file from another folder under the same project. But that file was not included in "Complied Sources" under "Build Phase". This caused a linker error.

After carefully comparing the "Build Phases" settings for a product that could be built successfully, I realized that the .m file of the header needs to be included in the list of "Compiled Source". My issue was resolved after adding that file. Attaching a picture for clarity. The highlighted file had to be added.

Initialize class fields in constructor or at declaration?

Consider the situation where you have more than one constructor. Will the initialization be different for the different constructors? If they will be the same, then why repeat for each constructor? This is in line with kokos statement, but may not be related to parameters. Let's say, for example, you want to keep a flag which shows how the object was created. Then that flag would be initialized differently for different constructors regardless of the constructor parameters. On the other hand, if you repeat the same initialization for each constructor you leave the possibility that you (unintentionally) change the initialization parameter in some of the constructors but not in others. So, the basic concept here is that common code should have a common location and not be potentially repeated in different locations. So I would say always put it in the declaration until you have a specific situation where that no longer works for you.

Why is textarea filled with mysterious white spaces?

I'm against HTML code mixed with PHP code.

However try this:

<script> tag vs <script type = 'text/javascript'> tag

In HTML 4, the type attribute is required. In my experience, all browsers will default to text/javascript if it is absent, but that behaviour is not defined anywhere. While you can in theory leave it out and assume it will be interpreted as JavaScript, it's invalid HTML, so why not add it.

In HTML 5, the type attribute is optional and defaults to text/javascript

Use <script type="text/javascript"> or simply <script> (if omitted, the type is the same). Do not use <script language="JavaScript">; the language attribute is deprecated

What are the RGB codes for the Conditional Formatting 'Styles' in Excel?

The easiest way to do this is to format a cell the way you want it, then use the "cell format ..." contextual menu to get to the fill and format colours, use the "more colors ..." button to get to the hexagon colour selector, select the custom tab.

The RGB colours are as in the table at the bottom of the pane. If you prefer HSL values change the color model from RGB to HSL. I have used this to change the saturation on my bad cells. A higher luminosity gives a worse results and the shade of all the cells is the same just the deepness of the colour is modified.

Multiple aggregations of the same column using pandas GroupBy.agg()

You can simply pass the functions as a list:

In [20]: df.groupby("dummy").agg({"returns": [np.mean, np.sum]})
Out[20]:
           mean       sum
dummy
1      0.036901  0.369012

or as a dictionary:

In [21]: df.groupby('dummy').agg({'returns':
                                  {'Mean': np.mean, 'Sum': np.sum}})
Out[21]:
        returns
           Mean       Sum
dummy
1      0.036901  0.369012

Notify ObservableCollection when Item changes

I solved this case by using static Action

public class CatalogoModel

    private String _Id;
    private String _Descripcion;
    private Boolean _IsChecked;

        set { _Descripcion = value; }
    }
    public Boolean IsChecked
    {
        get { return _IsChecked; }
        set
        {
           _IsChecked = value;
            NotifyPropertyChanged("IsChecked");
            OnItemChecked.Invoke();
        }
    }

    public static Action OnItemChecked;
}

What is the difference between the kernel space and the user space?

Memory get's divided into two distinct areas:

  • The user space, which is a set of locations where normal user processes run (i.e everything other than the kernel). The role of the kernel is to manage applications running in this space from messing with each other, and the machine.
  • The kernel space, which is the location where the code of the kernel is stored, and executes under.

Processes running under the user space have access only to a limited part of memory, whereas the kernel has access to all of the memory. Processes running in user space also don't have access to the kernel space. User space processes can only access a small part of the kernel via an interface exposed by the kernel - the system calls.If a process performs a system call, a software interrupt is sent to the kernel, which then dispatches the appropriate interrupt handler and continues its work after the handler has finished.

how to check for datatype in node js- specifically for integer

I think of two ways to test for the type of a value:

Method 1:

You can use the isNaN javascript method, which determines if a value is NaN or not. But because in your case you are testing a numerical value converted to string, Javascript is trying to guess the type of the value and converts it to the number 5 which is not NaN. That's why if you console.log out the result, you will be surprised that the code:

if (isNaN(i)) {
    console.log('This is not number');
}

will not return anything. For this reason a better alternative would be the method 2.

Method 2:

You may use javascript typeof method to test the type of a variable or value

if (typeof i != "number") {
    console.log('This is not number');
}

Notice that i'm using double equal operator, because in this case the type of the value is a string but Javascript internally will convert to Number.

A more robust method to force the value to numerical type is to use Number.isNaN which is part of new Ecmascript 6 (Harmony) proposal, hence not widespread and fully supported by different vendors.

Could not load file or assembly "System.Net.Http, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a"

4.6.1-2 in VS2017 users may experience the unwanted replacement of their version of System.Net.Http by the one VS2017 or Msbuild 15 wants to use.

We deleted this version here:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio\2017\Professional\MSBuild\Microsoft\Microsoft.NET.Build.Extensions\net461\lib\System.Net.Http.dll

and here:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio\2017\BuildTools\MSBuild\Microsoft\Microsoft.NET.Build.Extensions\net461\lib\System.Net.Http.dll

Then the project builds with the version we have referenced via NuGet.

Convert Existing Eclipse Project to Maven Project

Chengdong's answer is correct, you should use Configure>Convert to Maven Project. However, I must add the conversion process has been greatly improved since m2e 0.13.0 : m2e 1.1+ and m2e-wtp 0.16.0+ can now convert the existing eclipse settings into maven plugin configuration .

As for the dependency conversion matter, you can try the JBoss Tools (JBT) 4.0 Maven integration feature, which contains an experimental conversion wizard, plugged into m2e's conversion process : http://docs.jboss.org/tools/whatsnew/maven/maven-news-4.0.0.Beta1.html.

It does not pretend to be the ultimate solution (nothing can), be it should greatly help bootstrap your Maven conversion process.

Also, FYI, here are some ideas to enhance m2e's conversion process, refactoring to use a Maven layout will most probably be implemented in the future.

JBT 4.0 (requires Eclipse JavaEE Juno) can be installed from http://download.jboss.org/jbosstools/updates/stable/juno/ or from the Eclipse Marketplace

How to create a checkbox with a clickable label?

Loading/Downloading image from URL on Swift

class ImageStore: NSObject {
    static let imageCache = NSCache<NSString, UIImage>()
}

extension UIImageView {
    func url(_ url: String?) {
        DispatchQueue.global().async { [weak self] in
            guard let stringURL = url, let url = URL(string: stringURL) else {
                return
            }
            func setImage(image:UIImage?) {
                DispatchQueue.main.async {
                    self?.image = image
                }
            }
            let urlToString = url.absoluteString as NSString
            if let cachedImage = ImageStore.imageCache.object(forKey: urlToString) {
                setImage(image: cachedImage)
            } else if let data = try? Data(contentsOf: url), let image = UIImage(data: data) {
                DispatchQueue.main.async {
                    ImageStore.imageCache.setObject(image, forKey: urlToString)
                    setImage(image: image)
                }
            }else {
                setImage(image: nil)
            }
        }
    }
}

Usage :

let imageView = UIImageView()
imageView.url("image url")

Convert 24 Hour time to 12 Hour plus AM/PM indication Oracle SQL

For the 24-hour time, you need to use HH24 instead of HH.

For the 12-hour time, the AM/PM indicator is written as A.M. (if you want periods in the result) or AM (if you don't). For example:

SELECT invoice_date,
       TO_CHAR(invoice_date, 'DD-MM-YYYY HH24:MI:SS') "Date 24Hr",
       TO_CHAR(invoice_date, 'DD-MM-YYYY HH:MI:SS AM') "Date 12Hr"
  FROM invoices
;

For more information on the format models you can use with TO_CHAR on a date, see http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E16655_01/server.121/e17750/ch4datetime.htm#NLSPG004.

Java getHours(), getMinutes() and getSeconds()

Try this:

Calendar calendar = Calendar.getInstance();
calendar.setTime(yourdate);
int hours = calendar.get(Calendar.HOUR_OF_DAY);
int minutes = calendar.get(Calendar.MINUTE);
int seconds = calendar.get(Calendar.SECOND);

Edit:

hours, minutes, seconds

above will be the hours, minutes and seconds after converting yourdate to System Timezone!

PKIX path building failed: unable to find valid certification path to requested target

Here is the solution that I used for installing a site's public cert into the systems keystore for use.

Download the certificate with the following command:

unix, linux, mac

openssl s_client -connect [host]:[port|443] < /dev/null | sed -ne '/-BEGIN CERTIFICATE-/,/-END CERTIFICATE-/p' > [host].crt

windows

openssl s_client -connect [host]:[port|443] < NUL | sed -ne '/-BEGIN CERTIFICATE-/,/-END CERTIFICATE-/p' > [host].crt

That will create a crt that can be used to import into a keystore.

Install the new certificate with the command:

keytool -import -alias "[host]" -keystore [path to keystore] -file [host].crt

This will allow you to import the new cert from the site that is causing the exception.

Java 8: How do I work with exception throwing methods in streams?

You can wrap and unwrap exceptions this way.

class A {
    void foo() throws Exception {
        throw new Exception();
    }
};

interface Task {
    void run() throws Exception;
}

static class TaskException extends RuntimeException {
    private static final long serialVersionUID = 1L;
    public TaskException(Exception e) {
        super(e);
    }
}

void bar() throws Exception {
      Stream<A> as = Stream.generate(()->new A());
      try {
        as.forEach(a -> wrapException(() -> a.foo())); // or a::foo instead of () -> a.foo()
    } catch (TaskException e) {
        throw (Exception)e.getCause();
    }
}

static void wrapException(Task task) {
    try {
        task.run();
    } catch (Exception e) {
        throw new TaskException(e);
    }
}

ie8 var w= window.open() - "Message: Invalid argument."

IE is picky about the window name argument. It doesn't like spaces, dashes, or other punctuation.

Set value of hidden field in a form using jQuery's ".val()" doesn't work

Simply use syntax below get and set

GET

//Script
var a = $("#selectIndex").val();

here a variable will hold the value of hiddenfield(selectindex)

Server side

<asp:HiddenField ID="selectIndex" runat="server" Value="0" />

SET

var a =10;
$("#selectIndex").val(a);

How to save a pandas DataFrame table as a png

The best solution to your problem is probably to first export your dataframe to HTML and then convert it using an HTML-to-image tool. The final appearance could be tweaked via CSS.

Popular options for HTML-to-image rendering include:

Let us assume we have a dataframe named df. We can generate one with the following code:

import string
import numpy as np
import pandas as pd

np.random.seed(0) # just to get reproducible results from `np.random`
rows, cols = 5, 10
labels = list(string.ascii_uppercase[:cols])
df = pd.DataFrame(np.random.randint(0, 100, size=(5, 10)), columns=labels)
print(df)
#     A   B   C   D   E   F   G   H   I   J
# 0  44  47  64  67  67   9  83  21  36  87
# 1  70  88  88  12  58  65  39  87  46  88
# 2  81  37  25  77  72   9  20  80  69  79
# 3  47  64  82  99  88  49  29  19  19  14
# 4  39  32  65   9  57  32  31  74  23  35

Using WeasyPrint

This approach uses a pip-installable package, which will allow you to do everything using the Python ecosystem. One shortcoming of weasyprint is that it does not seem to provide a way of adapting the image size to its content. Anyway, removing some background from an image is relatively easy in Python / PIL, and it is implemented in the trim() function below (adapted from here). One also would need to make sure that the image will be large enough, and this can be done with CSS's @page size property.

The code follows:

import weasyprint as wsp
import PIL as pil

def trim(source_filepath, target_filepath=None, background=None):
    if not target_filepath:
        target_filepath = source_filepath
    img = pil.Image.open(source_filepath)
    if background is None:
        background = img.getpixel((0, 0))
    border = pil.Image.new(img.mode, img.size, background)
    diff = pil.ImageChops.difference(img, border)
    bbox = diff.getbbox()
    img = img.crop(bbox) if bbox else img
    img.save(target_filepath)

img_filepath = 'table1.png'
css = wsp.CSS(string='''
@page { size: 2048px 2048px; padding: 0px; margin: 0px; }
table, td, tr, th { border: 1px solid black; }
td, th { padding: 4px 8px; }
''')
html = wsp.HTML(string=df.to_html())
html.write_png(img_filepath, stylesheets=[css])
trim(img_filepath)

table_weasyprint

Using wkhtmltopdf/wkhtmltoimage

This approach uses an external open source tool and this needs to be installed prior to the generation of the image. There is also a Python package, pdfkit, that serves as a front-end to it (it does not waive you from installing the core software yourself), but I will not use it.

wkhtmltoimage can be simply called using subprocess (or any other similar means of running an external program in Python). One would also need to output to disk the HTML file.

The code follows:

import subprocess

df.to_html('table2.html')
subprocess.call(
    'wkhtmltoimage -f png --width 0 table2.html table2.png', shell=True)

table_wkhtmltoimage

and its aspect could be further tweaked with CSS similarly to the other approach.

Regular Expression to match valid dates

if you didn't get those above suggestions working, I use this, as it gets any date I ran this expression through 50 links, and it got all the dates on each page.

javax vs java package

I think it's a historical thing - if a package is introduced as an addition to an existing JRE, it comes in as javax. If it's first introduced as part of a JRE (like NIO was, I believe) then it comes in as java. Not sure why the new date and time API will end up as javax following this logic though... unless it will also be available separately as a library to work with earlier versions (which would be useful). Note from many years later: it actually ended up being in java after all.

I believe there are restrictions on the java package - I think classloaders are set up to only allow classes within java.* to be loaded from rt.jar or something similar. (There's certainly a check in ClassLoader.preDefineClass.)

EDIT: While an official explanation (the search orbfish suggested didn't yield one in the first page or so) is no doubt about "core" vs "extension", I still suspect that in many cases the decision for any particular package has an historical reason behind it too. Is java.beans really that "core" to Java, for example?

Just encode html using Base64 algorithm before adding html to the JSON and decode html using Base64 when you read.

byte[] utf8 = htmlMessage.getBytes("UTF8");
htmlMessage= new String(new Base64().encode(utf8));

byte[] dec = new Base64().decode(htmlMessage.getBytes());
htmlMessage = new String(dec , "UTF8");

How to push a new folder (containing other folders and files) to an existing git repo?

You need to git add my_project to stage your new folder. Then git add my_project/* to stage its contents. Then commit what you've staged using git commit and finally push your changes back to the source using git push origin master (I'm assuming you wish to push to the master branch).

Razor view engine - How can I add Partial Views

You partial looks much like an editor template so you could include it as such (assuming of course that your partial is placed in the ~/views/controllername/EditorTemplates subfolder):

@Html.EditorFor(model => model.SomePropertyOfTypeLocaleBaseModel)

Or if this is not the case simply:

@Html.Partial("nameOfPartial", Model)

Javascript date regex DD/MM/YYYY

Scape slashes is simply use \ before / and it will be escaped. (\/=> /).

Otherwise you're regex DD/MM/YYYY could be next:

/^[0-9]{2}[\/]{1}[0-9]{2}[\/]{1}[0-9]{4}$/g

Explanation:

  • [0-9]: Just Numbers
  • {2} or {4}: Length 2 or 4. You could do {2,4} as well to length between two numbers (2 and 4 in this case)
  • [\/]: Character /
  • g : Global -- Or m: Multiline (Optional, see your requirements)
  • $: Anchor to end of string. (Optional, see your requirements)
  • ^: Start of string. (Optional, see your requirements)

An example of use:

_x000D_
_x000D_
var regex = /^[0-9]{2}[\/][0-9]{2}[\/][0-9]{4}$/g;

var dates = ["2009-10-09", "2009.10.09", "2009/10/09", "200910-09", "1990/10/09",
    "2016/0/09", "2017/10/09", "2016/09/09", "20/09/2016", "21/09/2016", "22/09/2016",
    "23/09/2016", "19/09/2016", "18/09/2016", "25/09/2016", "21/09/2018"];

//Iterate array
dates.forEach(
    function(date){
        console.log(date + " matches with regex?");
      console.log(regex.test(date));
    });
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

Of course you can use as boolean:

if(regex.test(date)){
     //do something
}

Why would you use String.Equals over ==?

It's entirely likely that a large portion of the developer base comes from a Java background where using == to compare strings is wrong and doesn't work.

In C# there's no (practical) difference (for strings) as long as they are typed as string.

If they are typed as object or T then see other answers here that talk about generic methods or operator overloading as there you definitely want to use the Equals method.

TortoiseGit save user authentication / credentials

Saving username and password with TortoiseGit

Saving your login details in TortoiseGit is pretty easy. Saves having to type in your username and password every time you do a pull or push.

  1. Create a file called _netrc with the following contents:

    machine github.com
    login yourlogin
    password yourpassword

  2. Copy the file to C:\Users\ (or another location; this just happens to be where I’ve put it)

  3. Go to command prompt, type setx home C:\Users\

Note: if you’re using something earlier than Windows 7, the setx command may not work for you. Use set instead and add the home environment variable to Windows using via the Advanced Settings under My Computer.

Setting Custom ActionBar Title from Fragment

A simple Kotlin example

Assuming these gradle deps match or are higher version in your project:

kotlin_version = '1.3.41'
nav_version_ktx = '2.0.0'

Adapt this to your fragment classes:

    /**
     * A simple [Fragment] subclass.
     *
     * Updates the action bar title when onResume() is called on the fragment,
     * which is called every time you navigate to the fragment
     *
     */

    class MyFragment : Fragment() {
    private lateinit var mainActivity: MainActivity

    override fun onCreateView(
        inflater: LayoutInflater, container: ViewGroup?,
        savedInstanceState: Bundle?
    ): View? {

       //[...]

        mainActivity = this.activity as MainActivity

       //[...]
    }

    override fun onResume() {
        super.onResume()
        mainActivity.supportActionBar?.title = "My Fragment!"
    }

    }

C string append

You need to allocate new space as well. Consider this code fragment:

char * new_str ;
if((new_str = malloc(strlen(str1)+strlen(str2)+1)) != NULL){
    new_str[0] = '\0'; // ensures the memory is an empty string
    strcat(new_str,str1);
    strcat(new_str,str2);
} else {
    fprintf(STDERR,"malloc failed!\n");
    // exit?
}

You might want to consider strnlen(3) which is slightly safer.

Updated, see above. In some versions of the C runtime, the memory returned by malloc isn't initialized to 0. Setting the first byte of new_str to zero ensures that it looks like an empty string to strcat.

  return $(this).val(_x000D_
   $(this).val() + TextToAppend_x000D_
  );_x000D_
 };_x000D_
//______________________________________________x000D_
_x000D_
 // And that's how to use it:_x000D_
 $('#SomeID')_x000D_
  .appendVal( 'This text was just added' )
_x000D_
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/2.1.1/jquery.min.js"></script>_x000D_
<form>_x000D_
<textarea _x000D_
          id    =  "SomeID"_x000D_
          value =  "ValueText"_x000D_
          type  =  "text"_x000D_
>Current NodeText_x000D_
</textarea>_x000D_
  </form>
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

Well when creating this example I somehow got a little confused. "ValueText" vs >Current NodeText< Isn't .val() supposed to run on the data of the value attribute? Anyway I and you me may clear up this sooner or later.

However the point for now is:

When working with form data use .val().

When dealing with the mostly read only data in between the tag use .text() or .append() to append text.

How exactly do you configure httpOnlyCookies in ASP.NET?

With props to Rick (second comment down in the blog post mentioned), here's the MSDN article on httpOnlyCookies.

Bottom line is that you just add the following section in your system.web section in your web.config:

<httpCookies domain="" httpOnlyCookies="true|false" requireSSL="true|false" />

For Restful API, can GET method use json data?

To answer your question, yes you may pass JSON in the URI as part of a GET request (provided you URL-encode). However, considering your reason for doing this is due to the length of the URI, using JSON will be self-defeating (introducing more characters than required).

I suggest you send your parameters in body of a POST request, either in regular CGI style (param1=val1&param2=val2) or JSON (parsed by your API upon receipt)

Quick easy way to migrate SQLite3 to MySQL?

This script is ok except for this case that of course, I've met :

INSERT INTO "requestcomparison_stopword" VALUES(149,'f');
INSERT INTO "requestcomparison_stopword" VALUES(420,'t');

The script should give this output :

INSERT INTO requestcomparison_stopword VALUES(149,'f');
INSERT INTO requestcomparison_stopword VALUES(420,'t');

But gives instead that output :

INSERT INTO requestcomparison_stopword VALUES(1490;
INSERT INTO requestcomparison_stopword VALUES(4201;

with some strange non-ascii characters around the last 0 and 1.

This didn't show up anymore when I commented the following lines of the code (43-46) but others problems appeared:

    line = re.sub(r"([^'])'t'(.)", "\1THIS_IS_TRUE\2", line)
    line = line.replace('THIS_IS_TRUE', '1')
    line = re.sub(r"([^'])'f'(.)", "\1THIS_IS_FALSE\2", line)
    line = line.replace('THIS_IS_FALSE', '0')

This is just a special case, when we want to add a value being 'f' or 't' but I'm not really comfortable with regular expressions, I just wanted to spot this case to be corrected by someone.

Anyway thanks a lot for that handy script !!!

Changing the color of a clicked table row using jQuery

in your css:

.selected{
    background: #F00;
}

in the jquery:

$("#data tr").click(function(){
   $(this).toggleClass('selected');
});

Basically you create a class and adds/removes it from the selected row.

Btw you could have shown more effort, there's no css or jquery/js at all in your code xD

How do I pass environment variables to Docker containers?

If you have the environment variables in an env.sh locally and want to set it up when the container starts, you could try

COPY env.sh /env.sh
COPY <filename>.jar /<filename>.jar
ENTRYPOINT ["/bin/bash" , "-c", "source /env.sh && printenv && java -jar /<filename>.jar"]

This command would start the container with a bash shell (I want a bash shell since source is a bash command), sources the env.sh file(which sets the environment variables) and executes the jar file.

The env.sh looks like this,

#!/bin/bash
export FOO="BAR"
export DB_NAME="DATABASE_NAME"

I added the printenv command only to test that actual source command works. You should probably remove it when you confirm the source command works fine or the environment variables would appear in your docker logs.

What is the purpose of the "final" keyword in C++11 for functions?

  • It is to prevent a class from being inherited. From Wikipedia:

    C++11 also adds the ability to prevent inheriting from classes or simply preventing overriding methods in derived classes. This is done with the special identifier final. For example:

    struct Base1 final { };

    struct Derived1 : Base1 { }; // ill-formed because the class Base1
                                 // has been marked final

  • It is also used to mark a virtual function so as to prevent it from being overridden in the derived classes:

    struct Base2 {
        virtual void f() final;
    };

    struct Derived2 : Base2 {
        void f(); // ill-formed because the virtual function Base2::f has
                  // been marked final
    };

Wikipedia further makes an interesting point:

Note that neither override nor final are language keywords. They are technically identifiers; they only gain special meaning when used in those specific contexts. In any other location, they can be valid identifiers.

That means, the following is allowed:

int const final = 0;     // ok
int const override = 1;  // ok

How can I specify system properties in Tomcat configuration on startup?

Split list into smaller lists (split in half)

Another take on this problem in 2020 ... Here's a generalization of the problem. I interpret the 'divide a list in half' to be .. (i.e. two lists only and there shall be no spillover to a third array in case of an odd one out etc). For instance, if the array length is 19 and a division by two using // operator gives 9, and we will end up having two arrays of length 9 and one array (third) of length 1 (so in total three arrays). If we'd want a general solution to give two arrays all the time, I will assume that we are happy with resulting duo arrays that are not equal in length (one will be longer than the other). And that its assumed to be ok to have the order mixed (alternating in this case).

"""
arrayinput --> is an array of length N that you wish to split 2 times
"""
ctr = 1 # lets initialize a counter

holder_1 = []
holder_2 = []

for i in range(len(arrayinput)):

    if ctr == 1 :
        holder_1.append(arrayinput[i])
    elif ctr == 2:
        holder_2.append(arrayinput[i])

    ctr += 1

    if ctr > 2 : # if it exceeds 2 then we reset
        ctr = 1

This concept works for any amount of list partition as you'd like (you'd have to tweak the code depending on how many list parts you want). And is rather straightforward to interpret. To speed things up , you can even write this loop in cython / C / C++ to speed things up. Then again, I've tried this code on relatively small lists ~ 10,000 rows and it finishes in a fraction of second.

Just my two cents.

Thanks!

Casting variables in Java

Casting in Java isn't magic, it's you telling the compiler that an Object of type A is actually of more specific type B, and thus gaining access to all the methods on B that you wouldn't have had otherwise. You're not performing any kind of magic or conversion when performing casting, you're essentially telling the compiler "trust me, I know what I'm doing and I can guarantee you that this Object at this line is actually an <Insert cast type here>." For example:

Object o = "str";
String str = (String)o;

The above is fine, not magic and all well. The object being stored in o is actually a string, and therefore we can cast to a string without any problems.

There's two ways this could go wrong. Firstly, if you're casting between two types in completely different inheritance hierarchies then the compiler will know you're being silly and stop you:

String o = "str";
Integer str = (Integer)o; //Compilation fails here

Secondly, if they're in the same hierarchy but still an invalid cast then a ClassCastException will be thrown at runtime:

Number o = new Integer(5);
Double n = (Double)o; //ClassCastException thrown here

This essentially means that you've violated the compiler's trust. You've told it you can guarantee the object is of a particular type, and it's not.

Why do you need casting? Well, to start with you only need it when going from a more general type to a more specific type. For instance, Integer inherits from Number, so if you want to store an Integer as a Number then that's ok (since all Integers are Numbers.) However, if you want to go the other way round you need a cast - not all Numbers are Integers (as well as Integer we have Double, Float, Byte, Long, etc.) And even if there's just one subclass in your project or the JDK, someone could easily create another and distribute that, so you've no guarantee even if you think it's a single, obvious choice!

Regarding use for casting, you still see the need for it in some libraries. Pre Java-5 it was used heavily in collections and various other classes, since all collections worked on adding objects and then casting the result that you got back out the collection. However, with the advent of generics much of the use for casting has gone away - it has been replaced by generics which provide a much safer alternative, without the potential for ClassCastExceptions (in fact if you use generics cleanly and it compiles with no warnings, you have a guarantee that you'll never get a ClassCastException.)

SQLite with encryption/password protection

You can get sqlite3.dll file with encryption support from http://system.data.sqlite.org/.

1 - Go to http://system.data.sqlite.org/index.html/doc/trunk/www/downloads.wiki and download one of the packages. .NET version is irrelevant here.

2 - Extract SQLite.Interop.dll from package and rename it to sqlite3.dll. This DLL supports encryption via plaintext passwords or encryption keys.

The mentioned file is native and does NOT require .NET framework. It might need Visual C++ Runtime depending on the package you have downloaded.

UPDATE

This is the package that I've downloaded for 32-bit development: http://system.data.sqlite.org/blobs/1.0.94.0/sqlite-netFx40-static-binary-Win32-2010-1.0.94.0.zip

In Perl, how can I concisely check if a $variable is defined and contains a non zero length string?

As mobrule indicates, you could use the following instead for a small savings:

if (defined $name && $name ne '') {
    # do something with $name
}

You could ditch the defined check and get something even shorter, e.g.:

if ($name ne '') {
    # do something with $name
}

But in the case where $name is not defined, although the logic flow will work just as intended, if you are using warnings (and you should be), then you'll get the following admonishment:

Use of uninitialized value in string ne

So, if there's a chance that $name might not be defined, you really do need to check for definedness first and foremost in order to avoid that warning. As Sinan Ünür points out, you can use Scalar::MoreUtils to get code that does exactly that (checks for definedness, then checks for zero length) out of the box, via the empty() method:

use Scalar::MoreUtils qw(empty);
if(not empty($name)) {
    # do something with $name
}

Is it possible to dynamically compile and execute C# code fragments?

I recently needed to spawn processes for unit testing. This post was useful as I created a simple class to do that with either code as a string or code from my project. To build this class, you'll need the ICSharpCode.Decompiler and Microsoft.CodeAnalysis NuGet packages. Here's the class:

using ICSharpCode.Decompiler;
using ICSharpCode.Decompiler.CSharp;
using ICSharpCode.Decompiler.TypeSystem;
using Microsoft.CodeAnalysis;

using System;
using System.Collections.Generic;

   public static object Run(MethodInfo methodInfo, params object[] args)
   {
      var refs = methodInfo.DeclaringType.Assembly.GetReferencedAssemblies().Select(n => Assembly.Load(n));
      return Invoke(Compile(Decompile(methodInfo), refs), methodInfo.DeclaringType.FullName, methodInfo.Name, args);
   }

   private static Assembly Compile(SyntaxTree syntaxTree, IEnumerable<Assembly> references = null)
   {
      if (references is null) references = new[] { typeof(object).Assembly, typeof(Enumerable).Assembly };
      var mrefs = references.Select(a => MetadataReference.CreateFromFile(a.Location));
      var compilation = CSharpCompilation.Create(Path.GetRandomFileName(), new[] { syntaxTree }, mrefs, new CSharpCompilationOptions(OutputKind.DynamicallyLinkedLibrary));

      using (var ms = new MemoryStream())
      {
         var result = compilation.Emit(ms);
         if (result.Success)
         {
            ms.Seek(0, SeekOrigin.Begin);
            return Assembly.Load(ms.ToArray());

         }
      }
   }

   private static SyntaxTree Decompile(MethodInfo methodInfo)
   {
      var decompiler = new CSharpDecompiler(methodInfo.DeclaringType.Assembly.Location, new DecompilerSettings());
      var typeInfo = decompiler.TypeSystem.MainModule.Compilation.FindType(methodInfo.DeclaringType).GetDefinition();

        name="${BASH_REMATCH[1]}"
        value="${BASH_REMATCH[2]}"

    else
        echo "No match"

Regular expression can be tuned to match multiple spaces/tabs or newline(s). Wouldn't work if value has embedded ". This is an illustration. Better to use some "industrial" parser :)

Why split the <script> tag when writing it with document.write()?

The solution Bobince posted works perfectly for me. I wanted to offer an alternative method as well for future visitors:

if (typeof(jQuery) == 'undefined') {
    (function() {
        var sct = document.createElement('script');
        sct.src = ('https:' == document.location.protocol ? 'https' : 'http') +
          '://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.10.1/jquery.min.js';
        sct.type = 'text/javascript';
        sct.async = 'true';
        var domel = document.getElementsByTagName('script')[0];
        domel.parentNode.insertBefore(sct, domel);
    })();
}

In this example, I've included a conditional load for jQuery to demonstrate use case. Hope that's useful for someone!

Insert a row to pandas dataframe

You can simply append the row to the end of the DataFrame, and then adjust the index.

For instance:

df = df.append(pd.DataFrame([[2,3,4]],columns=df.columns),ignore_index=True)
df.index = (df.index + 1) % len(df)
df = df.sort_index()

Or use concat as:

df = pd.concat([pd.DataFrame([[1,2,3,4,5,6]],columns=df.columns),df],ignore_index=True)

How can I make grep print the lines below and above each matching line?

Use -B, -A or -C option

grep --help
...
-B, --before-context=NUM print NUM lines of leading context
-A, --after-context=NUM print NUM lines of trailing context
-C, --context=NUM print NUM lines of output context
-NUM                      same as --context=NUM
...

JUnit Testing private variables?

Despite the danger of stating the obvious: With a unit test you want to test the correct behaviour of the object - and this is defined in terms of its public interface. You are not interested in how the object accomplishes this task - this is an implementation detail and not visible to the outside. This is one of the things why OO was invented: That implementation details are hidden. So there is no point in testing private members. You said you need 100% coverage. If there is a piece of code that cannot be tested by using the public interface of the object, then this piece of code is actually never called and hence not testable. Remove it.

Why is `input` in Python 3 throwing NameError: name... is not defined

Creating a UIImage from a UIColor to use as a background image for UIButton

I suppose that 255 in 227./255 is perceived as an integer and divide is always return 0

How can I validate a string to only allow alphanumeric characters in it?

While I think the regex-based solution is probably the way I'd go, I'd be tempted to encapsulate this in a type.

public class AlphaNumericString
{
    public AlphaNumericString(string s)
    {
        Regex r = new Regex("^[a-zA-Z0-9]*$");
        if (r.IsMatch(s))
        {
            value = s;
        }
        else
        {
            throw new ArgumentException("Only alphanumeric characters may be used");
        }
    }

    private string value;
    static public implicit operator string(AlphaNumericString s)
    {
        return s.value;
    }
}

Now, when you need a validated string, you can have the method signature require an AlphaNumericString, and know that if you get one, it is valid (apart from nulls). If someone attempts to pass in a non-validated string, it will generate a compiler error.

You can get fancier and implement all of the equality operators, or an explicit cast to AlphaNumericString from plain ol' string, if you care.

CSS3 Fade Effect

You can't transition between two background images, as there's no way for the browser to know what you want to interpolate. As you've discovered, you can transition the background position. If you want the image to fade in on mouse over, I think the best way to do it with CSS transitions is to put the image on a containing element and then animate the background colour to transparent on the link itself:

span {
    background: url(button.png) no-repeat 0 0;
}
a {
    width: 32px;
    height: 32px;
    text-align: left;
    background: rgb(255,255,255);

    -webkit-transition: background 300ms ease-in 200ms; /* property duration timing-function delay */
    -moz-transition: background 300ms ease-in 200ms;
    -o-transition: background 300ms ease-in 200ms;
    transition: background 300ms ease-in 200ms;
    }
a:hover {
    background: rgba(255,255,255,0);
}

How to create a service running a .exe file on Windows 2012 Server?

You can just do that too, it seems to work well too. sc create "Servicename" binPath= "Path\To\your\App.exe" DisplayName= "My Custom Service"

You can open the registry and add a string named Description in your service's registry key to add a little more descriptive information about it. It will be shown in services.msc.

Hibernate openSession() vs getCurrentSession()

SessionFactory: "One SessionFactory per application per DataBase" ( e.g., if you use 3 DataBase's in our application , you need to create sessionFactory object per each DB , totally you need to create 3 sessionFactorys . or else if you have only one DataBase One sessionfactory is enough ).

Session: "One session for one request-response cycle". you can open session when request came and you can close session after completion of request process. Note:-Don't use one session for web application.

How to close a GUI when I push a JButton?

See JFrame.setDefaultCloseOperation(DISPOSE_ON_CLOSE)1. You might also use EXIT_ON_CLOSE, but it is better to explicitly clean up any running threads, then when the last GUI element becomes invisible, the EDT & JRE will end.

The 'button' to invoke this operation is already on a frame.

  1. See this answer to How to best position Swing GUIs? for a demo. of the DISPOSE_ON_CLOSE functionality.

    The JRE will end after all 3 frames are closed by clicking the X button.

CSS technique for a horizontal line with words in the middle

I have tried most of the ways suggested but ends with some problems like full width, or Not suitable for dynamic content. Finally i modified a code, and works perfectly. This example code will draw those lines before and after, and it is flexible in content change. Center aligned too.

after installing WAMP 3 with Apache 2.4.17 and php5.6.17 I tried to look at php.ini from wampserver (green icon in tray). It wasn't finding it. I copied php.ini from the php.5.6.15 directory to the apache2.4.17\bin\ directory and phpmyadmin worked fine without missing mbstring

Renew Provisioning Profile

For me the problem was occurring because there was no active Production certificate. I created a new one, and then went to the expired distribution provisioning profile, added the certificate and the provisioning profile got activated.

How do I keep the screen on in my App?

getWindow().addFlags(WindowManager.LayoutParams.FLAG_KEEP_SCREEN_ON);

getWindow is a method defined for activities, and won't require you to find a View first.

How to remove provisioning profiles from Xcode

In Xcode 6, you can do this mostly right in Xcode:

  1. Go to Xcode -> Preferences -> Accounts.
  2. Choose your Apple ID in the left column.
  3. In the right pane, click the "View Details..." button.
  4. Right-click on the provisioning profile you want to delete, then click "Show Details".
  5. A Finder window will open up with the provisioning profile highlighted.
  6. Delete the selected provisioning profile.

Group dataframe and get sum AND count?

If you have lots of columns and only one is different you could do:

In[1]: grouper = df.groupby('Company Name')
In[2]: res = grouper.count()
In[3]: res['Amount'] = grouper.Amount.sum()
In[4]: res
Out[4]:
                      Organisation Name   Amount
Company Name
Vifor Pharma UK Ltd 5 4207.93

Note you can then rename the Organisation Name column as you wish.

R Language: How to print the first or last rows of a data set?

How can I change the language (to english) in Oracle SQL Developer?

Try to set user.language and user.country properties in sqldeveloper.conf file located in sqldeveloper\bin folder (%APPDATA%\sqldeveloper\<version>\product.conf for more recent versions) .
Sample for set french language:

IncludeConfFile ../../ide/bin/ide.conf

SetJavaHome D:\jdk1.6.0_25

AddVMOption  -Doracle.ide.util.AddinPolicyUtils.OVERRIDE_FLAG=true

AddVMOption -Dsun.java2d.ddoffscreen=false

AddVMOption -Dwindows.shell.font.languages=
AddVMOption -Duser.language=fr
AddVMOption -Duser.country=FR
AddVMOption  -XX:MaxPermSize=128M

AddVMOption -Doracle.jdbc.mapDateToTimestamp=false
IncludeConfFile  sqldeveloper-nondebug.conf

To switch off language try to remove its support by editing oracle.translated.locales option in ide.boot file (located in ide\bin folder).
For example, if I want to 'break' french language support this option will be:

oracle.translated.locales = de,es,it,ja,ko,pt_BR,zh_CN,zh_TW

The original value was:

oracle.translated.locales = de,fr,es,it,ja,ko,pt_BR,zh_CN,zh_TW

The configuration above (sqldeveloper.conf file) will be wrong after remove french support and the french language does not appear as GUI localization.

How to return multiple values in one column (T-SQL)?

Well... I see that an answer was already accepted... but I think you should see another solutions anyway:

/* QUERY */
;WITH tmp AS ( SELECT DISTINCT UserId FROM @UserAliases )
SELECT
    LEFT(tmp.UserId, 10) +
    '/ ' +
    STUFF(
            (   SELECT ', '+Alias
                FROM @UserAliases
                WHERE UserId = tmp.UserId
                FOR XML PATH('')
            )
            , 1, 2, ''
        ) AS [UserId/Alias]
FROM tmp

/* -- OUTPUT

How to fire a change event on a HTMLSelectElement if the new value is the same as the old?

You have to add empty option to solve it,

I also can give you one more solution but its up to you that is fine for you or not Because User select default option after selecting other options than jsFunction will be called twice.

<select onChange="jsFunction()" id="selectOpt">

How can I remove or replace SVG content?

R: += (plus equals) and ++ (plus plus) equivalent from c++/c#/java, etc.?

We can override +. If unary + is used and its argument is itself an unary + call, then increment the relevant variable in the calling environment.

`+` <- function(e1,e2){
    # if unary `+`, keep original behavior
    if(missing(e2)) {
      s_e1 <- substitute(e1)
      # if e1 (the argument of unary +) is itself an unary `+` operation
      if(length(s_e1) == 2 &&
         identical(s_e1[[1]], quote(`+`)) &&
         length(s_e1[[2]]) == 1) {
        # increment value in parent environment
        eval.parent(substitute(e1 <- e1 + 1, list(e1 = s_e1[[2]])))
      # else unary `+` should just return it's input
      } else e1
    # if binary `+`, keep original behavior
    } else .Primitive("+")(e1, e2)
}

x <- 10
++x
x
# [1] 11

other operations don't change :

x + 2
# [1] 13
x ++ 2
# [1] 13
+x
# [1] 11
x
# [1] 11

Don't do it though, as you'll slow down everything. Or do it in another environment and make sure you don't have big loops on these instructions.

You can also just do this :

`++` <- function(x) eval.parent(substitute(x <- x + 1))
a <- 1
`++`(a)
a
# [1] 2

laravel 5.3 new Auth::routes()

Auth routes for Laravel 5.3 instead Auth::routes(). I hope it helps...

Route::group(['middleware' => ['web']], function() {

// Login Routes...
    Route::get('login', ['as' => 'login', 'uses' => 'Auth\LoginController@showLoginForm']);
    Route::post('login', ['as' => 'login.post', 'uses' => 'Auth\LoginController@login']);
    Route::post('logout', ['as' => 'logout', 'uses' => 'Auth\LoginController@logout']);

// Registration Routes...
    Route::get('register', ['as' => 'register', 'uses' => 'Auth\RegisterController@showRegistrationForm']);
    Route::post('register', ['as' => 'register.post', 'uses' => 'Auth\RegisterController@register']);

// Password Reset Routes...
    Route::get('password/reset', ['as' => 'password.reset', 'uses' => 'Auth\ForgotPasswordController@showLinkRequestForm']);
    Route::post('password/email', ['as' => 'password.email', 'uses' => 'Auth\ForgotPasswordController@sendResetLinkEmail']);
    Route::get('password/reset/{token}', ['as' => 'password.reset.token', 'uses' => 'Auth\ResetPasswordController@showResetForm']);
    Route::post('password/reset', ['as' => 'password.reset.post', 'uses' => 'Auth\ResetPasswordController@reset']);
});

So if you change some names of these routes, remember to also change in views the actions of the posts!

@UniqueConstraint annotation in Java

Note: In Kotlin the syntax for declaring the arrays in annotations uses arrayOf(...) instead of {...}

@Entity
@Table(uniqueConstraints=arrayOf(UniqueConstraint(columnNames=arrayOf("book", "chapter_number"))))
class Chapter(@ManyToOne var book:Book,
              @Column var chapterNumber:Int)

Note: As of Kotlin 1.2 its is possible to use the [...] syntax so the code become much simpler

@Entity
@Table(uniqueConstraints=[UniqueConstraint(columnNames=["book", "chapter_number"])])
class Chapter(@ManyToOne var book:Book,
              @Column var chapterNumber:Int)

How to check if a date is in a given range?

In the format you've provided, assuming the user is smart enough to give you valid dates, you don't need to convert to a date first, you can compare them as strings.

Making RGB color in Xcode

Objective-C

You have to give the values between 0 and 1.0. So divide the RGB values by 255.

myLabel.textColor= [UIColor colorWithRed:(160/255.0) green:(97/255.0) blue:(5/255.0) alpha:1] ;

Update:

You can also use this macro

#define Rgb2UIColor(r, g, b)  [UIColor colorWithRed:((r) / 255.0) green:((g) / 255.0) blue:((b) / 255.0) alpha:1.0]

and you can call in any of your class like this

 myLabel.textColor = Rgb2UIColor(160, 97, 5);

Swift

This is the normal color synax

myLabel.textColor = UIColor(red: (160/255.0), green: (97/255.0), blue: (5/255.0), alpha: 1.0)
//The values should be between 0 to 1

Swift is not much friendly with macros

Complex macros are used in C and Objective-C but have no counterpart in Swift. Complex macros are macros that do not define constants, including parenthesized, function-like macros. You use complex macros in C and Objective-C to avoid type-checking constraints or to avoid retyping large amounts of boilerplate code. However, macros can make debugging and refactoring difficult. In Swift, you can use functions and generics to achieve the same results without any compromises. Therefore, the complex macros that are in C and Objective-C source files are not made available to your Swift code.

So we use extension for this

extension UIColor {
    convenience init(_ r: Double,_ g: Double,_ b: Double,_ a: Double) {
        self.init(red: r/255, green: g/255, blue: b/255, alpha: a)
    }
}

You can use it like

myLabel.textColor = UIColor(160.0, 97.0, 5.0, 1.0)

Input jQuery get old value before onchange and get value after on change

I have found a solution that works even with "Select2" plugin:

function functionName() {
  $('html').on('change', 'select.some-class', function() {
    var newValue = $(this).val();
    var oldValue = $(this).attr('data-val');
    if ( $.isNumeric(oldValue) ) { // or another condition
      // do something
    }
    $(this).attr('data-val', newValue);
  });
  $('select.some-class').trigger('change');
}

How to check if any flags of a flag combination are set?

You can use this extension method on enum, for any type of enums:

public static bool IsSingle(this Enum value)
{
    var items = Enum.GetValues(value.GetType());
    var counter = 0;
    foreach (var item in items)
    {
        if (value.HasFlag((Enum)item))
        {
            counter++;
        }
        if (counter > 1)
        {
            return false;
        }
    }
    return true;
}

How to auto-size an iFrame?

Oli has a solution that will work for me. For the record, the page inside my iFrame is rendered by javascript, so I'll need an infinitesimal delay before reporting back the offsetHeight. It looks like something along these lines:

    $(document).ready(function(){
        setTimeout(setHeight);
    });

    function setHeight() {
        alert(document['body'].offsetHeight);
    }

Getting an object array from an Angular service

Take a look at your code :

 getUsers(): Observable<User[]> {
        return Observable.create(observer => {
            this.http.get('http://users.org').map(response => response.json();
        })
    }

and code from https://angular.io/docs/ts/latest/tutorial/toh-pt6.html (BTW. really good tutorial, you should check it out)

 getHeroes(): Promise<Hero[]> {
    return this.http.get(this.heroesUrl)
               .toPromise()
               .then(response => response.json().data as Hero[])
               .catch(this.handleError);
  }

The HttpService inside Angular2 already returns an observable, sou don't need to wrap another Observable around like you did here:

   return Observable.create(observer => {
        this.http.get('http://users.org').map(response => response.json()

Try to follow the guide in link that I provided. You should be just fine when you study it carefully.

---EDIT----

First of all WHERE you log the this.users variable? JavaScript isn't working that way. Your variable is undefined and it's fine, becuase of the code execution order!

Try to do it like this:

  getUsers(): void {
        this.userService.getUsers()
            .then(users => {
               this.users = users
               console.log('this.users=' + this.users);
            });

    }

See where the console.log(...) is!

Try to resign from toPromise() it's seems to be just for ppl with no RxJs background.

Catch another link: https://scotch.io/tutorials/angular-2-http-requests-with-observables Build your service once again with RxJs observables.

Java: Add elements to arraylist with FOR loop where element name has increasing number

That can't be done with a for-loop, unless you use the Reflection API. However, you can use Arrays.asList instead to accomplish the same:

log4j:WARN No appenders could be found for logger (running jar file, not web app)

There are many possible options for specifying your log4j configuration. One is for the file to be named exactly "log4j.properties" and be in your classpath. Another is to name it however you want and add a System property to the command line when you start Java, like this:

-Dlog4j.configuration=file:///path/to/your/log4j.properties

All of them are outlined here http://logging.apache.org/log4j/1.2/manual.html#defaultInit

UINavigationBar custom back button without title

  • Change backItem.title = "" to using topItem.title = ""
  • Setting navigationItem.hidesBackButton = true & navigationItem.leftBarButtonItem will lose the back gesture
  • Remember we have to create 2 instances of the back image

My solution will change the image & keep the back gesture:

navigationController?.navigationBar.backIndicatorImage = UIImage(named: "back")
navigationController?.navigationBar.backIndicatorTransitionMaskImage = UIImage(named: "back")
navigationController?.navigationBar.topItem?.title = ""

How to suppress warnings globally in an R Script

You want options(warn=-1). However, note that warn=0 is not the safest warning level and it should not be assumed as the current one, particularly within scripts or functions. Thus the safest way to temporary turn off warnings is:

oldw <- getOption("warn")
options(warn = -1)

[your "silenced" code]

options(warn = oldw)

Upgrading PHP in XAMPP for Windows?

I needed to update my php from 5.3.8 to 5.3.29. (both Thread Safe) on Windows

Steps I did:

  1. Back-up my initial php folder, under xampp.
  2. Downloaded zip from here http://windows.php.net/download/#php-5.3-ts-VC9-x86
  3. Unpack that zip into xampp folder.
  4. Copied php.ini file from old php folder into new one.
  5. Copied a couple of folders that I didn't have in the new php folder, from old one. For example: extras, which contained browscap.ini file (this one is needed)
  6. Copied needed extensions, from old php ext folder into new php ext folder. I copied them manually, by checking list of extensions from php.ini file.
  7. Copied also these files: php5apache2_2.dll, php5ts.dll

Hope that I covered everything.

Most probably these steps will not work if you change major versions of php, e.g. 5.3.x to 5.4.x, but for minor versions, it should work.

Also, a good way to see what's wrong... start command line and try to start httpd.exe, under xampp/apache/bin from there, it will list errors found.

How to properly exit a C# application?

By the way. whenever my forms call the formclosed or form closing event I close the applciation with a this.Hide() function. Does that affect how my application is behaving now?

In short, yes. The entire application will end when the main form (the form started via Application.Run in the Main method) is closed (not hidden).

If your entire application should always fully terminate whenever your main form is closed then you should just remove that form closed handler. By not canceling that event and just letting them form close when the user closes it you will get your desired behavior. As for all of the other forms, if you don't intend to show that same instance of the form again you just just let them close, rather than preventing closure and hiding them. If you are showing them again, then hiding them may be fine.

If you want to be able to have the user click the "x" for your main form, but have another form stay open and, in effect, become the "new" main form, then it's a bit more complicated. In such a case you will need to just hide your main form rather than closing it, but you'll need to add in some sort of mechanism that will actually close the main form when you really do want your app to end. If this is the situation that you're in then you'll need to add more details to your question describing what types of applications should and should not actually end the program.

for simple comments:

set serveroutput on format wrapped;
begin
    DBMS_OUTPUT.put_line('simple comment');
end;
/

-- do something

begin
    DBMS_OUTPUT.put_line('second simple comment');
end;
/

you should get:

anonymous block completed

if you want to print out the results of variables, here's another example:

set serveroutput on format wrapped;
declare
a_comment VARCHAR2(200) :='first comment';
begin
    DBMS_OUTPUT.put_line(a_comment);
end;

/

-- do something

declare
a_comment VARCHAR2(200) :='comment';
begin
    DBMS_OUTPUT.put_line(a_comment || 2);
end;

your output should be:

anonymous block completed
first comment

anonymous block completed

Django upgrading to 1.9 error "AppRegistryNotReady: Apps aren't loaded yet."

This error may occur when you are adding an app in INSTALLED_APPS in the settings.py file but you do not have that app installed in your computer. You have two solution:

  1. Install that app using package managers like pip in ubuntu
  2. Or Comment out that installed app in the settings.py file

This error may also arise if you are not in your virtual environment which you may have created for your project.

Sorting A ListView By Column

Based on the example pointed by RedEye, here's a class that needs less code :
it assumes that columns are always sorted in the same way, so it handles the
ColumnClick event sink internally :

public class ListViewColumnSorterExt : IComparer {
    /// <summary>
    /// Specifies the column to be sorted
    /// </summary>
    private int ColumnToSort;
    /// <summary>
    /// Specifies the order in which to sort (i.e. 'Ascending').
    /// </summary>
    private SortOrder OrderOfSort;
    /// <summary>
    /// Case insensitive comparer object
    /// </summary>
    private CaseInsensitiveComparer ObjectCompare;

    private ListView listView;
    /// <summary>
    /// Class constructor. Initializes various elements
    /// </summary>
    public ListViewColumnSorterExt(ListView lv) {
        listView = lv;
        listView.ListViewItemSorter = this;
        listView.ColumnClick += new ColumnClickEventHandler(listView_ColumnClick);

        // Initialize the column to '0'
        ColumnToSort = 0;

        // Initialize the sort order to 'none'
        OrderOfSort = SortOrder.None;

        // Initialize the CaseInsensitiveComparer object
        ObjectCompare = new CaseInsensitiveComparer();
    }

    private void listView_ColumnClick(object sender, ColumnClickEventArgs e) {
        ReverseSortOrderAndSort(e.Column, (ListView)sender);
    }

    /// <summary>
    /// This method is inherited from the IComparer interface. It compares the two objects passed using a case insensitive comparison.
    /// </summary>
    /// <param name="x">First object to be compared</param>
    /// <param name="y">Second object to be compared</param>
    /// <returns>The result of the comparison. "0" if equal, negative if 'x' is less than 'y' and positive if 'x' is greater than 'y'</returns>
    public int Compare(object x, object y) {
        int compareResult;
        ListViewItem listviewX, listviewY;

        // Cast the objects to be compared to ListViewItem objects
        listviewX = (ListViewItem)x;
        listviewY = (ListViewItem)y;

        // Compare the two items
        compareResult = ObjectCompare.Compare(listviewX.SubItems[ColumnToSort].Text, listviewY.SubItems[ColumnToSort].Text);

        // Calculate correct return value based on object comparison
        if (OrderOfSort == SortOrder.Ascending) {
            // Ascending sort is selected, return normal result of compare operation
            return compareResult;
        }
        else if (OrderOfSort == SortOrder.Descending) {
            // Descending sort is selected, return negative result of compare operation
            return (-compareResult);
        }
        else {
            // Return '0' to indicate they are equal
            return 0;
        }
    }

    /// <summary>
    /// Gets or sets the number of the column to which to apply the sorting operation (Defaults to '0').
    /// </summary>
    private int SortColumn {
        set {
            ColumnToSort = value;
        }
        get {
            return ColumnToSort;
        }
    }

    /// <summary>
    /// Gets or sets the order of sorting to apply (for example, 'Ascending' or 'Descending').
    /// </summary>
    private SortOrder Order {
        set {
            OrderOfSort = value;
        }
        get {
            return OrderOfSort;
        }
    }

    private void ReverseSortOrderAndSort(int column, ListView lv) {
        // Determine if clicked column is already the column that is being sorted.
        if (column == this.SortColumn) {
            // Reverse the current sort direction for this column.
            if (this.Order == SortOrder.Ascending) {
                this.Order = SortOrder.Descending;
            }
            else {
                this.Order = SortOrder.Ascending;
            }
        }
        else {
            // Set the column number that is to be sorted; default to ascending.
            this.SortColumn = column;
            this.Order = SortOrder.Ascending;
        }

        // Perform the sort with these new sort options.
        lv.Sort();
    }
}

Assuming you're happy with the sort options, the class properties are private.

The only code you need to write is :

in Form declarations

private ListViewColumnSorterExt listViewColumnSorter;

in Form constructor

listViewColumnSorter = new ListViewColumnSorterExt(ListView1);

... and you're done.

And what about a single sorter that handles multiple ListViews ?

public class MultipleListViewColumnSorter {
    private List<ListViewColumnSorterExt> sorters;

    public MultipleListViewColumnSorter() {
        sorters = new List<ListViewColumnSorterExt>();
    }

    public void AddListView(ListView lv) {
        sorters.Add(new ListViewColumnSorterExt(lv));
    }
}

in Form declarations

private MultipleListViewColumnSorter listViewSorter = new MultipleListViewColumnSorter();

in Form constructor

listViewSorter.AddListView(ListView1);
listViewSorter.AddListView(ListView2);
// ... and so on ...

Can we have functions inside functions in C++?

Starting with C++ 11 you can use proper lambdas. See the other answers for more details.

Old answer: You can, sort-of, but you have to cheat and use a dummy class:

void moo()
{
    class dummy
    {
    public:
         static void a() { printf("I'm in a!\n"); }
    };

    dummy::a();
    dummy::a();
}

AWK to print field $2 first, then field $1

A couple of general tips (besides the DOS line ending issue):

cat is for concatenating files, it's not the only tool that can read files! If a command doesn't read files then use redirection like command < file.

You can set the field separator with the -F option so instead of:

cat foo | awk 'BEGIN{FS="|"} {print $2 " " $1}'

Try:

awk -F'|' '{print $2" "$1}' foo

This will output:

com.emailclient.account [email protected]
com.socialsite.auth.accoun [email protected]

To get the desired output you could do a variety of things. I'd probably split() the second field:

awk -F'|' '{split($2,a,".");print a[2]" "$1}' file
emailclient [email protected]
socialsite [email protected]

Finally to get the first character converted to uppercase is a bit of a pain in awk as you don't have a nice built in ucfirst() function:

awk -F'|' '{split($2,a,".");print toupper(substr(a[2],1,1)) substr(a[2],2),$1}' file
Emailclient [email protected]
Socialsite [email protected]

If you want something more concise (although you give up a sub-process) you could do:

awk -F'|' '{split($2,a,".");print a[2]" "$1}' file | sed 's/^./\U&/'
Emailclient [email protected]
Socialsite [email protected]

How organize uploaded media in WP?

Currently, media organisation is possible.

The "problem" with the media library in wordpress is always interesting. Check the following plugin to solve this: WordPress Real Media Library. WP RML creates a virtual folder structure based on an own taxonomy.

Drag & Drop your files

It allows you to organize your wordpress media library in a nice way with folders. It is easy to use, just drag&drop your files and move it to a specific folder. Filter when inserting media or create a gallery from a folder.

Turn your WordPress media library to the next level with folders / categories. Get organized with thousands of images.

RML (Real Media Library) is one of the most wanted media wordpress plugins. It is easy to use and it allows you to organize your thousands of images in folders. It is similar to wordpress categories like in the posts.

Use your mouse (or touch) to drag and drop your files. Create, rename, delete or reorder your folders If you want to select a image from the “Select a image”-dialog (e. g. featured image) you can filter when inserting media. Just install this plugin and it works fine with all your image and media files. It also supports multisite.

If you buy, you get: Forever FREE updates and high quality and fast support.

From the product description i can quote. If you want to try the plugin, there is also a demo on the plugin page.

Update #1 (2017-01-27): Manage your uploads physically

A long time ago I started to open this thread and now there is a usable extension plugin for Real Media Library which allows you to physically manage your uploads folder.

enter image description here

Check out this plugin: https://wordpress.org/plugins/physical-custom-upload-folder/

Do you know the wp-content/uploads folder? There, the files are stored in year/month based folders. This can be a very complicated and mass process, especially when you are working with a FTP client like FileZilla.

Moving already uploaded files: This plugin does not allow to move the files physically when you move a file in the Real Media Library because WordPress uses the URL's in different places. It is very hard to maintain such a process. So this only works for new uploads.

Physical organisation on server?

(Please read on if you are developer) I as developer thought about a solution about this. Does it make sense to organize the uploads on server, too? Yes, i think. Many people ask to organize it physically. I think also that the process of moving files on server and updating the image references is very hard to develop. There are many plugins out now, which are saving the URLs in their own-created database-tables.

Please check this thread where i explained the problem: https://wordpress.stackexchange.com/questions/226675/physical-organization-of-wordpress-media-library-real-media-library-plugin

exception.getMessage() output with class name

My guess is that you've got something in method1 which wraps one exception in another, and uses the toString() of the nested exception as the message of the wrapper. I suggest you take a copy of your project, and remove as much as you can while keeping the problem, until you've got a short but complete program which demonstrates it - at which point either it'll be clear what's going on, or we'll be in a better position to help fix it.

Here's a short but complete program which demonstrates RuntimeException.getMessage() behaving correctly:

public class Test {
    public static void main(String[] args) {
        try {
            failingMethod();
        } catch (Exception e) {
            System.out.println("Error: " + e.getMessage());
        }
    }

    private static void failingMethod() {
        throw new RuntimeException("Just the message");
    }
}

Output:

Error: Just the message

What is a 'multi-part identifier' and why can't it be bound?

I had this issue and it turned out to be an incorrect table alias. Correcting this resolved the issue.

copy-item With Alternate Credentials

Here's my script that runs as LocalSystem on a machine, but needs credentials of a domaim user to access a network file location. It allows you to store the user's password in a "safe-ish" encrypted file; that can only be read by the user that wrote it.

Setting and changing the password is done by copying a file with the plaintext password in it to the machine. When the script is next run it reads the password, encrypts it, then deletes the plaintext password.

$plaintext_password_file = 'C:\plaintext.txt' # Stores the password in plain text - only used once, then deleted
$encryted_password_file = 'C:\copy_pass.txt' # Stores the password in "safe" encrypted form - used for subsequent runs of the script
                                              # - can only be decrypted by the windows user that wrote it
$file_copy_user = 'OURDOMAIN\A_User'

# Check to see if there is a new plaintext password
if (Test-Path $plaintext_password_file)
{
    # Read in plaintext password, convert to a secure-string, convert to an encrypted-string, and write out, for use later
    get-content $plaintext_password_file | convertto-securestring -asplaintext -force | convertfrom-securestring | out-file $encryted_password_file
    # Now we have encrypted password, remove plain text for safety
    Remove-Item $plaintext_password_file
}

# Read in the encrypted password, convert to a secure-string
$pass = get-content $encryted_password_file | convertto-securestring

# create a credential object for the other user, using username and password stored in secure-string
$credentials = new-object -typename System.Management.Automation.PSCredential -argumentlist $file_copy_user,$pass

# Connect to network file location as the other user and map to drive J:
New-PSDrive -Name J -PSProvider FileSystem -Root "\\network\file_directory" -Credential $credentials

# Copy the file to J:
Copy-Item -Force -Verbose -Path "C:\a_file.txt" -Destination "J:\"

As an extra refinement: The username could also be encrypted as well, rather than hardcoded.

Unable to verify leaf signature

CoolAJ86's solution is correct and it does not compromise your security like disabling all checks using rejectUnauthorized or NODE_TLS_REJECT_UNAUTHORIZED. Still, you may need to inject an additional CA's certificate explicitly.

I tried first the root CAs included by the ssl-root-cas module:

require('ssl-root-cas/latest')
  .inject();

I still ended up with the UNABLE_TO_VERIFY_LEAF_SIGNATURE error. Then I found out who issued the certificate for the web site I was connecting to by the COMODO SSL Analyzer, downloaded the certificate of that authority and tried to add only that one:

require('ssl-root-cas/latest')
  .addFile(__dirname + '/comodohigh-assurancesecureserverca.crt');

I ended up with another error: CERT_UNTRUSTED. Finally, I injected the additional root CAs and included "my" (apparently intermediary) CA, which worked:

require('ssl-root-cas/latest')
  .inject()
  .addFile(__dirname + '/comodohigh-assurancesecureserverca.crt');

How can I merge two commits into one if I already started rebase?

If you want to combine the two most recent commits and just use the older commit's message, you can automate the process using expect.

I assume:

  • You're using vi as your editor
  • Your commits are one-line each

I tested with git version 2.14.3 (Apple Git-98).

#!/usr/bin/env expect
spawn git rebase -i HEAD~2

# change the second "pick" to "squash"
# down, delete word, insert 's' (for squash), Escape, save and quit
send "jdwis \033:wq\r"

expect "# This is a"

# skip past first commit message (assumed to be one line), delete rest of file
# down 4, delete remaining lines, save and quit
send "4jdG\r:wq\r"

How to do relative imports in Python?

main.py
setup.py
app/ ->
    __init__.py
    package_a/ ->
       __init__.py
       module_a.py
    package_b/ ->
       __init__.py
       module_b.py
  1. You run python main.py.
  2. main.py does: import app.package_a.module_a
  3. module_a.py does import app.package_b.module_b

Alternatively 2 or 3 could use: from app.package_a import module_a

That will work as long as you have app in your PYTHONPATH. main.py could be anywhere then.

So you write a setup.py to copy (install) the whole app package and subpackages to the target system's python folders, and main.py to target system's script folders.

What is the use of join() in Python threading?

With join - interpreter will wait until your process get completed or terminated

>>> from threading import Thread
>>> import time
>>> def sam():
...   print 'started'
...   time.sleep(10)
...   print 'waiting for 10sec'
...
>>> t = Thread(target=sam)
>>> t.start()
started

>>> t.join() # with join interpreter will wait until your process get completed or terminated
done? # this line printed after thread execution stopped i.e after 10sec
waiting for 10sec
>>> done?

without join - interpreter wont wait until process get terminated,

>>> t = Thread(target=sam)
>>> t.start()
started
>>> print 'yes done' #without join interpreter wont wait until process get terminated
yes done
>>> waiting for 10sec

How to execute multiple SQL statements from java

I'm not sure that you want to send two SELECT statements in one request statement because you may not be able to access both ResultSets. The database may only return the last result set.

Multiple ResultSets

However, if you're calling a stored procedure that you know can return multiple resultsets something like this will work

CallableStatement stmt = con.prepareCall(...);
try {
...

boolean results = stmt.execute();

while (results) {
    ResultSet rs = stmt.getResultSet();
    try {
    while (rs.next()) {
        // read the data
    }
    } finally {
        try { rs.close(); } catch (Throwable ignore) {}
    }

    // are there anymore result sets?
    results = stmt.getMoreResults();
}
} finally {
    try { stmt.close(); } catch (Throwable ignore) {}
}

Multiple SQL Statements

If you're talking about multiple SQL statements and only one SELECT then your database should be able to support the one String of SQL. For example I have used something like this on Sybase

StringBuffer sql = new StringBuffer( "SET rowcount 100" );
sql.append( " SELECT * FROM tbl_books ..." );
sql.append( " SET rowcount 0" );

stmt = conn.prepareStatement( sql.toString() );

This will depend on the syntax supported by your database. In this example note the addtional spaces padding the statements so that there is white space between the staments.

How to test if a string is JSON or not?

Warning: For methods relying on JSON.parse - Arrays and quote surrounded strings will pass too (ie. console.log(JSON.parse('[3]'), JSON.parse('"\uD800"')))

To avoid all non-object JSON primitives (boolean, null, array, number, string), I suggest using the following:

/* Validate a possible object ie. o = { "a": 2 } */
const isJSONObject = (o) =>
  !!o && (typeof o === 'object') && !Array.isArray(o) &&
  (() => { try { return Boolean(JSON.stringify(o)); } catch { return false } })()

/* Validate a possible JSON object represented as string ie. s = '{ "a": 3 }' */
function isJSONObjectString(s) {
    try {
        const o = JSON.parse(s);
        return !!o && (typeof o === 'object') && !Array.isArray(o)
    } catch {
        return false
    }
}

Code Explanation

  • !!o - Not falsy (excludes null, which registers as typeof 'object')
  • (typeof o === 'object') - Excludes boolean, number, and string
  • !Array.isArray(o) - Exclude arrays (which register as typeof 'object')
  • try ... JSON.stringify / JSON.parse - Asks JavaScript engine to determine if valid JSON

Why not use the hasJsonStructure() answer?

Relying on toString() is not a good idea. This is because different JavaScript Engines may return a different string representation. In general, methods which rely on this may fail in different environments or may be subject to fail later should the engine ever change the string result

Why is catching an exception not a hack?

It was brought up that catching an exception to determine something's validity is never the right way to go. This is generally good advice, but not always. In this case, exception catching is likely is the best route because it relies on the JavaScript engine's implementation of validating JSON data.

Relying on the JS engine offers the following advantages:

  1. More thorough and continually up-to-date as JSON spec changes
  2. Likely to run faster (as it's lower level code)

When given the opportunity to lean on the JavaScript engine, I'd suggest doing it. Particularly so in this case. Although it may feel hacky to catch an exception, you're really just handling two possible return states from an external method.

How to style the <option> with only CSS?

I've played around with select items before and without overriding the functionality with JavaScript, I don't think it's possible in Chrome. Whether you use a plugin or write your own code, CSS only is a no go for Chrome/Safari and as you said, Firefox is better at dealing with it.

What is Type-safe?

An explanation from a liberal arts major, not a comp sci major:

When people say that a language or language feature is type safe, they mean that the language will help prevent you from, for example, passing something that isn't an integer to some logic that expects an integer.

For example, in C#, I define a function as:

 void foo(int arg)

The compiler will then stop me from doing this:

  // call foo
  foo("hello world")

In other languages, the compiler would not stop me (or there is no compiler...), so the string would be passed to the logic and then probably something bad will happen.

Type safe languages try to catch more at "compile time".

On the down side, with type safe languages, when you have a string like "123" and you want to operate on it like an int, you have to write more code to convert the string to an int, or when you have an int like 123 and want to use it in a message like, "The answer is 123", you have to write more code to convert/cast it to a string.

Usage of __slots__?

Each python object has a __dict__ atttribute which is a dictionary containing all other attributes. e.g. when you type self.attr python is actually doing self.__dict__['attr']. As you can imagine using a dictionary to store attribute takes some extra space & time for accessing it.

However, when you use __slots__, any object created for that class won't have a __dict__ attribute. Instead, all attribute access is done directly via pointers.

So if want a C style structure rather than a full fledged class you can use __slots__ for compacting size of the objects & reducing attribute access time. A good example is a Point class containing attributes x & y. If you are going to have a lot of points, you can try using __slots__ in order to conserve some memory.

Angular 2 router.navigate

If the first segment doesn't start with / it is a relative route. router.navigate needs a relativeTo parameter for relative navigation

Either you make the route absolute:

this.router.navigate(['/foo-content', 'bar-contents', 'baz-content', 'page'], this.params.queryParams)

or you pass relativeTo

this.router.navigate(['../foo-content', 'bar-contents', 'baz-content', 'page'], {queryParams: this.params.queryParams, relativeTo: this.currentActivatedRoute})

Difference between Groovy Binary and Source release?

Binary releases contain computer readable version of the application, meaning it is compiled. Source releases contain human readable version of the application, meaning it has to be compiled before it can be used.

Difference between pre-increment and post-increment in a loop?

In C# there is no difference when used in a for loop.

for (int i = 0; i < 10; i++) { Console.WriteLine(i); }

outputs the same thing as

for (int i = 0; i < 10; ++i) { Console.WriteLine(i); }

As others have pointed out, when used in general i++ and ++i have a subtle yet significant difference:

int i = 0;
Console.WriteLine(i++);   // Prints 0
int j = 0;
Console.WriteLine(++j);   // Prints 1

i++ reads the value of i then increments it.

++i increments the value of i then reads it.

jQuery: how to find first visible input/select/textarea excluding buttons?

Here is my solution. The code should be easy enough to follow but here is the idea:

  • get all inputs, selects, and textareas
  • filter out all buttons and hidden fields
  • filter to only enabled, visible fields
  • select the first one
  • focus the selected field

The code:

function focusFirst(parent) {
    $(parent).find('input, textarea, select')
        .not('input[type=hidden],input[type=button],input[type=submit],input[type=reset],input[type=image],button')
        .filter(':enabled:visible:first')
        .focus();
}

Then simply call focusFirst with your parent element or selector.

Selector:

focusFirst('form#aspnetForm');

Element:

var el = $('form#aspnetForm');
focusFirst(el);

QComboBox - set selected item based on the item's data

You can also have a look at the method findText(const QString & text) from QComboBox; it returns the index of the element which contains the given text, (-1 if not found). The advantage of using this method is that you don't need to set the second parameter when you add an item.

Here is a little example :

/* Create the comboBox */
QComboBox   *_comboBox = new QComboBox;

/* Create the ComboBox elements list (here we use QString) */
QList<QString> stringsList;
stringsList.append("Text1");
stringsList.append("Text3");
stringsList.append("Text4");
stringsList.append("Text2");
stringsList.append("Text5");

/* Populate the comboBox */
_comboBox->addItems(stringsList);

/* Create the label */
QLabel *label = new QLabel;

/* Search for "Text2" text */
int index = _comboBox->findText("Text2");
if( index == -1 )
    label->setText("Text2 not found !");
else
    label->setText(QString("Text2's index is ")
                   .append(QString::number(_comboBox->findText("Text2"))));

/* setup layout */
QVBoxLayout *layout = new QVBoxLayout(this);
layout->addWidget(_comboBox);
layout->addWidget(label);

Difference between a Seq and a List in Scala

In Scala, a List inherits from Seq, but implements Product; here is the proper definition of List :

sealed abstract class List[+A] extends AbstractSeq[A] with Product with ...

[Note: the actual definition is a tad bit more complex, in order to fit in with and make use of Scala's very powerful collection framework.]

Increase number of axis ticks

Additionally,

ggplot(dat, aes(x,y)) +
geom_point() +
scale_x_continuous(breaks = seq(min(dat$x), max(dat$x), by = 0.05))

Works for binned or discrete scaled x-axis data (I.e., rounding not necessary).

How to split a dataframe string column into two columns?

I saw that no one had used the slice method, so here I put my 2 cents here.

df["<col_name>"].str.slice(stop=5)
df["<col_name>"].str.slice(start=6)

This method will create two new columns.

Difference between <context:annotation-config> and <context:component-scan>

A <context:component-scan/> custom tag registers the same set of bean definitions as is done by , apart from its primary responsibility of scanning the java packages and registering bean definitions from the classpath.

If for some reason this registration of default bean definitions are to be avoided, the way to do that is to specify an additional "annotation-config" attribute in component-scan, this way:

<context:component-scan basePackages="" annotation-config="false"/>

Using HTML data-attribute to set CSS background-image url

How about using some Sass? Here's what I did to achieve something like this (although note that you have to create a Sass list for each of the data-attributes).

/*
  Iterate over list and use "data-social" to put in the appropriate background-image.
*/
$social: "fb", "twitter", "youtube";

@each $i in $social {
  [data-social="#{$i}"] {
    background: url('#{$image-path}/icons/#{$i}.svg') no-repeat 0 0;
    background-size: cover; // Only seems to work if placed below background property
  }
}

Essentially, you list all of your data attribute values. Then use Sass @each to iterate through and select all the data-attributes in the HTML. Then, bring in the iterator variable and have it match up to a filename.

Anyway, as I said, you have to list all of the values, then make sure that your filenames incorporate the values in your list.

Function to Calculate a CRC16 Checksum

crcany will generate efficient C code for any CRC, and includes a library of over one hundred known CRC definitions.

Efficient CRC code uses tables instead of bit-wise calculations. crcany generates both byte-wise routines and word-wise routines, the latter tuned to the architecture they are generated on. Word-wise is the fastest. Byte-wise is still much faster than bit-wise, but the implementation is more easily portable over architectures.

You do not seem to have a protocol definition with a specific CRC definition that you need to match. In this case, you can pick any 16-bit CRC in the catalog, and you will get good performance.

If you have a relatively low bit error rate, e.g. single digit number of errors per packet, and you want to maximize your error detection performance, you would need to look at the packet size you are applying the CRC to, assuming that that is constant or bounded, and look at the performance of the best polynomials in Philip Koopman's extensive research. The classic CRCs, such as the CCITT/Kermit 16-bit CRC or the X.25 16-bit CRC are not the best performers.

One of the good 16-bit performers in Koopman's tables that is also in the catalog of CRCs used in practice is CRC-16/DNP. It has very good performance detecting up to 6-bit errors in a packet. Following is the code generated by crcany for that CRC definition. This code assumes a little-endian architecture for the word-wise calculation, e.g. Intel x86 and x86-64, and it assumes that uintmax_t is 64 bits. crcany can be used to generate alternative code for big-endian and other word sizes.

crc16dnp.h:

// The _bit, _byte, and _word routines return the CRC of the len bytes at mem,
// applied to the previous CRC value, crc. If mem is NULL, then the other
// arguments are ignored, and the initial CRC, i.e. the CRC of zero bytes, is
// returned. Those routines will all return the same result, differing only in
// speed and code complexity. The _rem routine returns the CRC of the remaining
// bits in the last byte, for when the number of bits in the message is not a
// multiple of eight. The low bits bits of the low byte of val are applied to
// crc. bits must be in 0..8.

Node.js: for each … in not working

There's no for each in in the version of ECMAScript supported by Node.js, only supported by firefox currently.

The important thing to note is that JavaScript versions are only relevant to Gecko (Firefox's engine) and Rhino (which is always a few versions behind). Node uses V8 which follows ECMAScript specifications

Error: Cannot find module 'gulp-sass'

Those who are getting this error, please downgrade the Node.js you are using.

  • Step 1 :

    Uninstall the one you are using and install the version you prefer. I installed v6.12.3. My previous Node.js version was v9.4.0.

  • Step 2 :

    Download Node.js.

Hope this will work.

How to Query an NTP Server using C#?

The .NET Micro Framework Toolkit found in the CodePlex has an NTPClient. I have never used it myself but it looks good.

There is also another example located here.

Remove a fixed prefix/suffix from a string in Bash

$ string="hello-world"
$ prefix="hell"
$ suffix="ld"

$ #remove "hell" from "hello-world" if "hell" is found at the beginning.
$ prefix_removed_string=${string/#$prefix}

$ #remove "ld" from "o-world" if "ld" is found at the end.
$ suffix_removed_String=${prefix_removed_string/%$suffix}
$ echo $suffix_removed_String
o-wor

Notes:

#$prefix : adding # makes sure that substring "hell" is removed only if it is found in beginning. %$suffix : adding % makes sure that substring "ld" is removed only if it is found in end.

Without these, the substrings "hell" and "ld" will get removed everywhere, even it is found in the middle.

Can't connect to MySQL server on 'localhost' (10061) after Installation

this issue is very to solve by windows server users

  1. go to this path C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.1\bin

  2. run this tool "MySQLInstanceConfig.exe"

and config the instatnce again and problem solved

What USB driver should we use for the Nexus 5?

The one from Google USB Driver worked fine for me on two machines (Windows 7 x64 on both). Once Windows failed to auto-install the driver, I just right-clicked on the phone in Device Manager, chose "update driver" and gave it the path that I'd unzipped that driver into.

Unexpected character encountered while parsing value

This issue is related to Byte Order Mark in the JSON file. JSON file is not encoded as UTF8 encoding data when saved. Using File.ReadAllText(pathFile) fix this issue.

When we are operating on Byte data and converting that to string and then passing to JsonConvert.DeserializeObject, we can use UTF32 encoding to get the string.

byte[] docBytes = File.ReadAllBytes(filePath);

string jsonString = Encoding.UTF32.GetString(docBytes);

Is it valid to define functions in JSON results?

A short answer is NO...

JSON is a text format that is completely language independent but uses conventions that are familiar to programmers of the C-family of languages, including C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Perl, Python, and many others. These properties make JSON an ideal data-interchange language.

Look at the reason why:

When exchanging data between a browser and a server, the data can only be text.

JSON is text, and we can convert any JavaScript object into JSON, and send JSON to the server.

We can also convert any JSON received from the server into JavaScript objects.

This way we can work with the data as JavaScript objects, with no complicated parsing and translations.

But wait...

There is still ways to store your function, it's widely not recommended to that, but still possible:

We said, you can save a string... how about converting your function to a string then?

const data = {func: '()=>"a FUNC"'};

Then you can stringify data using JSON.stringify(data) and then using JSON.parse to parse it (if this step needed)...

And eval to execute a string function (before doing that, just let you know using eval widely not recommended):

eval(data.func)(); //return "a FUNC"

Search for string and get count in vi editor

I suggest doing:

  1. Search either with * to do a "bounded search" for what's under the cursor, or do a standard /pattern search.
  2. Use :%s///gn to get the number of occurrences. Or you can use :%s///n to get the number of lines with occurrences.

** I really with I could find a plug-in that would giving messaging of "match N of N1 on N2 lines" with every search, but alas.

Note: Don't be confused by the tricky wording of the output. The former command might give you something like 4 matches on 3 lines where the latter might give you 3 matches on 3 lines. While technically accurate, the latter is misleading and should say '3 lines match'. So, as you can see, there really is never any need to use the latter ('n' only) form. You get the same info, more clearly, and more by using the 'gn' form.

Finding non-numeric rows in dataframe in pandas?

Sorry about the confusion, this should be the correct approach. Do you want only to capture 'bad' only, not things like 'good'; Or just any non-numerical values?

In[15]:
np.where(np.any(np.isnan(df.convert_objects(convert_numeric=True)), axis=1))
Out[15]:

What's a quick way to comment/uncomment lines in Vim?

I have the following in my .vimrc:

" Commenting blocks of code.
augroup commenting_blocks_of_code
  autocmd!
  autocmd FileType c,cpp,java,scala let b:comment_leader = '// '
  autocmd FileType sh,ruby,python   let b:comment_leader = '# '
  autocmd FileType conf,fstab       let b:comment_leader = '# '
  autocmd FileType tex              let b:comment_leader = '% '
  autocmd FileType mail             let b:comment_leader = '> '
  autocmd FileType vim              let b:comment_leader = '" '
augroup END
noremap <silent> ,cc :<C-B>silent <C-E>s/^/<C-R>=escape(b:comment_leader,'\/')<CR>/<CR>:nohlsearch<CR>
noremap <silent> ,cu :<C-B>silent <C-E>s/^\V<C-R>=escape(b:comment_leader,'\/')<CR>//e<CR>:nohlsearch<CR>

Now you can type ,cc to comment a line and ,cu to uncomment a line (works both in normal and visual mode).

(I stole it from some website many years ago so I can't completely explain how it works anymore :). There is a comment where it is explained.)

Simulating Slow Internet Connection

If you're running windows, fiddler is a great tool. It has a setting to simulate modem speed, and for someone who wants more control has a plugin to add latency to each request.

I prefer using a tool like this to putting latency code in my application as it is a much more realistic simulation, as well as not making me design or code the actual bits. The best code is code I don't have to write.

ADDED: This article at Pavel Donchev's blog on Software Technologies shows how to create custom simulated speeds: Limiting your Internet connection speed with Fiddler.

Removing spaces from a variable input using PowerShell 4.0

The Replace operator means Replace something with something else; do not be confused with removal functionality.

Also you should send the result processed by the operator to a variable or to another operator. Neither .Replace(), nor -replace modifies the original variable.

To remove all spaces, use 'Replace any space symbol with empty string'

$string = $string -replace '\s',''

To remove all spaces at the beginning and end of the line, and replace all double-and-more-spaces or tab symbols to spacebar symbol, use

$string = $string -replace '(^\s+|\s+$)','' -replace '\s+',' '

or the more native System.String method

$string = $string.Trim()

Regexp is preferred, because ' ' means only 'spacebar' symbol, and '\s' means 'spacebar, tab and other space symbols'. Note that $string.Replace() does 'Normal' replace, and $string -replace does RegEx replace, which is more heavy but more functional.

Note that RegEx have some special symbols like dot (.), braces ([]()), slashes (\), hats (^), mathematical signs (+-) or dollar signs ($) that need do be escaped. ( 'my.space.com' -replace '\.','-' => 'my-space-com'. A dollar sign with a number (ex $1) must be used on a right part with care

'2033' -replace '(\d+)',$( 'Data: $1')
Data: 2033

UPDATE: You can also use $str = $str.Trim(), along with TrimEnd() and TrimStart(). Read more at System.String MSDN page.

Predicate Delegates in C#

The predicate-based searching methods allow a method delegate or lambda expression to decide whether a given element is a “match.” A predicate is simply a delegate accepting an object and returning true or false: public delegate bool Predicate (T object);

   static void Main()
        {
            string[] names = { "Lukasz", "Darek", "Milosz" };
            string match1 = Array.Find(names, delegate(string name) { return name.Contains("L"); });
            //or
            string match2 = Array.Find(names, delegate(string name) { return name.Contains("L"); });
            //or
            string match3 = Array.Find(names, x => x.Contains("L"));

            Console.WriteLine(match1 + " " + match2 + " " + match3);     // Lukasz Lukasz Lukasz
        }
        static bool ContainsL(string name) { return name.Contains("L"); }

Show git diff on file in staging area

You can show changes that have been staged with the --cached flag:

$ git diff --cached

In more recent versions of git, you can also use the --staged flag (--staged is a synonym for --cached):

$ git diff --staged

Turn Pandas Multi-Index into column

The reset_index() is a pandas DataFrame method that will transfer index values into the DataFrame as columns. The default setting for the parameter is drop=False (which will keep the index values as columns).

All you have to do add .reset_index(inplace=True) after the name of the DataFrame:

df.reset_index(inplace=True)

Best way to store passwords in MYSQL database

Passwords in the database should be stored encrypted. One way encryption (hashing) is recommended, such as SHA2, SHA2, WHIRLPOOL, bcrypt DELETED: MD5 or SHA1. (those are older, vulnerable

In addition to that you can use additional per-user generated random string - 'salt':

$salt = MD5($this->createSalt());

$Password = SHA2($postData['Password'] . $salt);

createSalt() in this case is a function that generates a string from random characters.

EDIT: or if you want more security, you can even add 2 salts: $salt1 . $pass . $salt2

Another security measure you can take is user inactivation: after 5 (or any other number) incorrect login attempts user is blocked for x minutes (15 mins lets say). It should minimize success of brute force attacks.

How to calculate probability in a normal distribution given mean & standard deviation?

The formula cited from wikipedia mentioned in the answers cannot be used to calculate normal probabilites. You would have to write a numerical integration approximation function using that formula in order to calculate the probability.

That formula computes the value for the probability density function. Since the normal distribution is continuous, you have to compute an integral to get probabilities. The wikipedia site mentions the CDF, which does not have a closed form for the normal distribution.

Should I write script in the body or the head of the html?

I always put my scripts in the header. My reasons:

  1. I like to separate code and (static) text
  2. I usually load my script from external sources
  3. The same script is used from several pages, so it feels like an include file (which also goes in the header)

Creating a Pandas DataFrame from a Numpy array: How do I specify the index column and column headers?

I agree with Joris; it seems like you should be doing this differently, like with numpy record arrays. Modifying "option 2" from this great answer, you could do it like this:

import pandas
import numpy

dtype = [('Col1','int32'), ('Col2','float32'), ('Col3','float32')]
values = numpy.zeros(20, dtype=dtype)
index = ['Row'+str(i) for i in range(1, len(values)+1)]

df = pandas.DataFrame(values, index=index)

How to map calculated properties with JPA and Hibernate

Take a look at Blaze-Persistence Entity Views which works on top of JPA and provides first class DTO support. You can project anything to attributes within Entity Views and it will even reuse existing join nodes for associations if possible.

Here is an example mapping

@EntityView(Order.class)
interface OrderSummary {
  Integer getId();
  @Mapping("SUM(orderPositions.price * orderPositions.amount * orderPositions.tax)")
  BigDecimal getOrderAmount();
  @Mapping("COUNT(orderPositions)")
  Long getItemCount();
}

Fetching this will generate a JPQL/HQL query similar to this

SELECT
  o.id,
  SUM(p.price * p.amount * p.tax),
  COUNT(p.id)
FROM
  Order o
LEFT JOIN
  o.orderPositions p
GROUP BY
  o.id

java.lang.IllegalStateException: Fragment not attached to Activity

I Found Very Simple Solution isAdded() method which is one of the fragment method to identify that this current fragment is attached to its Activity or not.

we can use this like everywhere in fragment class like:

if(isAdded())
{

// using this method, we can do whatever we want which will prevent **java.lang.IllegalStateException: Fragment not attached to Activity** exception.

}

Select a date from date picker using Selenium webdriver

Here's a tidy solution where you provide the target date as a Calendar object.

    MONTH_TO_CALENDAR_INDEX.put("January",  0);
    MONTH_TO_CALENDAR_INDEX.put("February",1);
    MONTH_TO_CALENDAR_INDEX.put("March",2);
    MONTH_TO_CALENDAR_INDEX.put("April",3);
    MONTH_TO_CALENDAR_INDEX.put("May",4);
    MONTH_TO_CALENDAR_INDEX.put("June",5);
    MONTH_TO_CALENDAR_INDEX.put("July",6);
    MONTH_TO_CALENDAR_INDEX.put("August",7);
    MONTH_TO_CALENDAR_INDEX.put("September",8);
    MONTH_TO_CALENDAR_INDEX.put("October",9);
    MONTH_TO_CALENDAR_INDEX.put("November",10);
    MONTH_TO_CALENDAR_INDEX.put("December",11);

Move seaborn plot legend to a different position?

it seems you can directly call:

g = sns.factorplot("class", "survived", "sex",
                data=titanic, kind="bar",
                size=6, palette="muted",
               legend_out=False)

g._legend.set_bbox_to_anchor((.7, 1.1))

How different is Scrum practice from Agile Practice?

Comparision of Agile to Scrum is similar to comparision of organism to one organ.

Scrum suggests the way of management while it doesn't prescribe everything what is necessary to do to be able to react fast on changes. Only by adding other agile techniques like continuous integration, extreme programming, test driven development your teams will be able to deliver products not just fast, but also product that customer wants with great quality.
