Running Tensorflow in Jupyter Notebook

I came up with your case. This is how I sort it out

  1. Install Anaconda
  2. Create a virtual environment - conda create -n tensor flow
  3. Go inside your virtual environment - Source activate tensorflow
  4. Inside that install tensorflow. You can install it using pip
  5. Finish install

So then the next thing, when you launch it:

  1. If you are not inside the virtual environment type - Source Activate Tensorflow
  2. Then inside this again install your Jupiter notebook and Pandas libraries, because there can be some missing in this virtual environment

Inside the virtual environment just type:

  1. pip install jupyter notebook
  2. pip install pandas

Then you can launch jupyter notebook saying:

  1. jupyter notebook
  2. Select the correct terminal python 3 or 2
  3. Then import those modules

Error: Unexpected value 'undefined' imported by the module

I am building a components library and started getting this error in my app that is importing said library. When running ng build --prod or ng serve --aot in app I would get:

Unexpected value 'undefined' imported by the module '?m in node_modules/<library-name>/<library-name>.d.ts'

But no errors when using ng serve or when testing the modules in the library itself even when building in --prod.

Turns out I was misled by intellisense as well. For a few of my modules I had imported a sister module as

import { DesignModule } from '../../design';

instead of

import { DesignModule } from '../../design/design.module';

It worked in fine in all builds except the one I described.

This was terrible to pin down and I was lucky it didn't take me longer than it did. Hope this help someone.

Install php-zip on php 5.6 on Ubuntu

Try either

  • sudo apt-get install php-zip or
  • sudo apt-get install php5.6-zip

Then, you might have to restart your web server.

  • sudo service apache2 restart or
  • sudo service nginx restart

If you are installing on centos or fedora OS then use yum in place of apt-get. example:-

sudo yum install php-zip or sudo yum install php5.6-zip and sudo service httpd restart

Deploying Maven project throws java.util.zip.ZipException: invalid LOC header (bad signature)

The solution for me was to run mvn with -X:

No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it 127.0.0.1

There is a firewall blocking the connection or the process that is hosting the service is not listening on that port. Or it is listening on a different port.

For me something similar happened when I had accidently added

apply plugin: 'kotlin-android'

to my android library module. Removing the line fixes the issue.

Laravel assets url

Besides put all your assets in the public folder, you can use the HTML::image() Method, and only needs an argument which is the path to the image, relative on the public folder, as well:

Which generates the follow HTML code:

Another option is to use multer, which uses busboy under the hood, but is simpler to set up.

For those who use Tomcat with Bitronix, this will fix the problem:

The error indicates that no handler could be found for your datasource 'jdbc/mydb', so you'll need to make sure your tomcat server refers to your bitronix configuration files as needed.

In case you're using btm-config.properties and resources.properties files to configure the datasource, specify these two JVM arguments in tomcat:

(if you already used them, make sure your references are correct):

  • btm.root
  • bitronix.tm.configuration

I had the same issue, however DoEvents didn't help me as my data connections had background-refresh enabled. Instead, using Wayne G. Dunn's answer as a jumping-off point, I created the following solution, which works just fine for me;

The MsgBox is for testing only and can be removed once you're happy the code waits.

Also, I prefer ThisWorkbook to ActiveWorkbook as I know it will target the workbook where the code resides, just in case focus changes. Nine times out of ten this won't matter, but I like to err on the side of caution.

EDIT: Just saw your edit about using an xlConnectionTypeXMLMAP connection which does not have a BackgroundQuery option, sorry. I'll leave the above for anyone (like me) looking for a way to refresh OLEDBConnection types.

For anyone who stumbles across this post looking for a solution and you've set up SMTP sendgrid via Azure.

The username is not the username you set up when you've created the sendgrid object in azure. To find your username;

  • Click on your sendgrid object in azure and click manage. You will be redirected to the SendGrid site.
  • Confirm your email and then copy down the username displayed there.. it's an automatically generated username.
  • Add the username from SendGrid into your SMTP settings in the web.config file.

Running in Debug Mode

When you're developing and debugging an application, you will typically run with the debug attribute in the web.config file set to true and your DLLs compiled in debug mode. However, before you deploy your application to test or to production, you should compile your components in release mode and set the debug attribute to false.

ASP.NET works differently on many levels when running in debug mode. In fact, when you are running in debug mode, the GC will allow your objects to remain alive longer (until the end of the scope) so you will always see higher memory usage when running in debug mode.

Another often unrealized side-effect of running in debug mode is that client scripts served via the webresource.axd and scriptresource.axd handlers will not be cached. Clickable means that it can be clicked by a pointer device or be tapped by a touch device.

Focusable means that it can gain the focus from an input device like a keyboard. Input devices like keyboards cannot decide which view to send its input events to based on the inputs itself, so they send them to the view that has focus.

You are not allowed to have a CNAME record for the domain, as the CNAME is an aliasing feature that covers all data types (regardless of whether the client looks for MX, NS or SOA records). CNAMEs also always refer to a new name, not an ip-address, so there are actually two errors in the single line

Changing that CNAME to an A record should make it work, provided the ip-address you use is the correct one for your Heroku app.

The only correct way in DNS to make a simple domain.com name work in the browser, is to point the domain to an IP-adress with an A record.

If you're wondering how to get the file content from each ZipEntry it's actually quite simple. Here's a sample code:

I used eclipse -clean -clearPersistedState and that worked for me. You will lose your window layout configuration, but that seems minor to me.

For Linux systems try: ./eclipse -clean -clearPersistedState

It appears that Microsoft.Web.Infrastructure.dll is not being installed in the GAC, even if .net (4.0 or 4.5 or other) are installed successfully on Windows Server. On localhost (typically Windows client), it seems like it is being in the GAC when the tools/platform (Visual Studio etc.) are installed.

As one possible fix, please try the following:

  1. Run the following command in the Package Manager Console. (If you are using Visual Studio, this can be reached via menu options "Tools --> Library Package Manager --> Package Manager Console:)

    PM> Install-Package Microsoft.Web.Infrastructure
    

    You will see the following messages if it is successfully installed.

    Successfully installed 'Microsoft.Web.Infrastructure 1.0.0.0'.
    Successfully added 'Microsoft.Web.Infrastructure 1.0.0.0' to Web.
    
  2. You will notice that Microsoft.Web.Infrastructure.dll has now been added as a Reference (can be seen in the references folder of your project in in Solution Explorer)

  3. If you look at the properties of this reference you will notice that "Copy Local" has been set to "True" by default.

  4. Now when you "Publish " your project, Microsoft.Web.Infrastructure.dll will be deployed.

The module was expected to contain an assembly manifest

I got the error in the following case:

  1. A .NET EXE file (#1) was referencing another .NET EXE file (#2)
  2. I was trying to obfuscate EXE #2 with Themida
  3. when running the EXE #1 it was crashing with the error "The module was expected to contain an assembly manifest"

I simply avoided the obfuscation and the error is gone. not a real solution, but at least I know what caused it...

Generate insert script for selected records?

I ended up doing this in 2 steps. Selected the records I want into a new table in the database then generated a SQL data only script in SSMS. I did find and replace on the generated script and removed the table.

AppFabric installation failed because installer MSI returned with error code : 1603

So, I was having the same issue. The main reason I am installing Appfabric is to create a SharePoint 2013 development server.
What did not work:

  • Updating the Environmental Variable PSModulePath - did not work. Still recieved the 1603 error after running the setup agian.
  • tried to find the registry entries. Could not find them.

What worked for me to get Appfrabic installed was installing from the setup file via powershell. Woo hoo! It worked for me! This is the link I retrieved the commands from: Installing AppFabric 1.1 with PowerShell DSC results in modal dialog error

Issue happens because Microsoft Security Update MS11-100 limits number of keys in Forms collection during HTTP POST request. To alleviate this problem you need to increase that number.

This can be done in your application Web.Config in the <appSettings> section (create the section directly under <configuration> if it doesn’t exist). Add 2 lines similar to the lines below to the section:

How to send an email with Gmail as provider using Python?

There is a gmail API now, which lets you send email, read email and create drafts via REST. Unlike the SMTP calls, it is non-blocking which can be a good thing for thread-based webservers sending email in the request thread (like python webservers). The API is also quite powerful.

  • Of course, email should be handed off to a non-webserver queue, but it's nice to have options.

It's easiest to setup if you have Google Apps administrator rights on the domain, because then you can give blanket permission to your client. Otherwise you have to fiddle with OAuth authentication and permission.

Shell Script Syntax Error: Unexpected End of File

Edit: Note that the original post has been edited since this answer was written and has been reformatted. You should look at the history to see the original formatting to understand the context for this answer.

This error occurs often when you have mismatched structure - that is, you do not have matching double quotes, matching single quotes, have not closed a control structure such as a missing fi with an if, or a missing done with a for.

The best way to spot these is to use correct indentation, which will show you where you have a broken control structure, and syntax highlighting, which will show you where quotes are not matched.

In this particular case, I can see you are missing a fi. In the latter part of your code, you have 5 ifs and 4 fis. However you also have a number of other problems - your backquoted touch /tmp/alert.txt... command is syntactically invalid, and you need a space before the closing bracket of an if test.

Clean up your code, and errors start to stand out.

I'm having the same problem. Jade does not pass local variables in (or do any templating at all) to javascript scripts, it simply passes the entire block in as literal text. If you use the local variables 'address' and 'port' in your Jade file above the script tag they should show up.

Possible solutions are listed in the question I linked to above, but you can either: - pass every line in as unescaped text (!= at the beginning of every line), and simply put "-" before every line of javascript that uses a local variable, or: - Pass variables in through a dom element and access through JQuery (ugly)

Is there no better way? It seems the creators of Jade do not want multiline javascript support, as shown by this thread in GitHub: https://github.com/visionmedia/jade/pull/405

Also you need to check if individual record is not getting updated in the logic because with update trigger in the place causes time out error too.

So, the solution is to make sure you perform bulk update after the loop/cursor instead of one record at a time in the loop.

How to change Java version used by TOMCAT?

In Eclipse it is very easy to point Tomcat to a new JVM (in this example JRE6). My problem was I couldn't find where to do it. Here is the trick:

  1. On the ECLIPSE top menu FILE pull down tab, select NEW, -->Other
  2. ...on the New Server: Select A Wizard window, select: Server-> Server... click NEXT
  3. . on the New Server: Define a New Server window, select Apache> Tomcat 7 Server
  4. ..now click the line in blue and underlined entitled: Configure Runtime Environments
  5. on the Server Runtime Environments window,
  6. ..select Apache, expand it(click on the arrow to the left), select TOMCAT v7.0, and click EDIT.
  7. you will see a window called EDIT SERVER RUNTIME ENVIRONMENT: TOMCAT SERVER
  8. On this screen there is a pulldown labeled JREs.
  9. You should find your JRE listed like JRE1.6.0.33. If not use the Installed JRE button.
  10. Select the desired JRE. Click the FINISH button.
  11. Gracefully exit, in the Server: Server Runtime Environments window, click OK
  12. in the New Server: Define a new Server window, hit NEXT
  13. in the New Server: Add and Remove Window, select apps and install them on the server.
  14. in the New Server: Add and Remove Window, click Finish

That's all. Interesting, only steps 7-10 seem to matter, and they will change the JRE used on all servers you have previously defined to use TOMCAT v7.0. The rest of the steps are just because I can't find any other way to get to the screen except by defining a new server. Does anyone else know an easier way?

How to use Python's "easy_install" on Windows ... it's not so easy

For one thing, it says you already have that module installed. If you need to upgrade it, you should do something like this:

easy_install -U packageName

Of course, easy_install doesn't work very well if the package has some C headers that need to be compiled and you don't have the right version of Visual Studio installed. You might try using pip or distribute instead of easy_install and see if they work better.

TCPDF not render all CSS properties

I recently ran into the same problem, and found a workaround though it'll only be useful if you can change the html code to suit.

I used tables to achieve my padded layout, so to create the equivalent of a div with internal padding I made a table with 3 columns/3 rows and put the content in the centre row/column. The first and last columns/rows are used for the padding.

eg.

Can I disable a CSS :hover effect via JavaScript?

I would use CSS to prevent the :hover event from changing the appearance of the link.

This simple CSS means that the links will always be black and not underlined. I cannot tell from the question whether the change in the appearance is the only thing you want to control.

PHPExcel how to set cell value dynamically

I don't have much experience working with php but from a logic standpoint this is what I would do.

  1. Loop through your result set from MySQL
  2. In Excel you should already know what A,B,C should be because those are the columns and you know how many columns you are returning.
  3. The row number can just be incremented with each time through the loop.

Below is some pseudocode illustrating this technique:

We were getting the same error - so this may be useful to some.

For us the cause was super simple. An interface change confused an end user and they were pressing the back button in the browser at a 'bad' time after a form submission (sure we should probably have used a PRG pattern, but we didn't).

We fixed the issue and the user is no longer pressing the back button. Problem solved.

Cannot use a leading ../ to exit above the top directory

You have an image or a favicon link of the style ="../" somewhere, that if the "../" were valid, would go beyond the top of the site, like this:

When you are trying to prevent XSS, it's important to think of the context. As an example how and what to escape is very different if you are ouputting data inside a variable in a javascript snippet as opposed to outputting data in an HTML tag or an HTML attribute.

So the short answer is, make sure you escape output like suggested by Tendayi Mawushe, but take special care when you are outputting data in HTML attributes or javascript.

getOutputStream() has already been called for this response

The issue here is that your JSP is talking directly to the response OutputStream. This technically isn't forbidden, but it's very much not a good idea.

Specifically, you call response.getOutputStream() and write data to that. Later, when the JSP engine tries to flush the response, it fails because your code has already "claimed" the response. An application can either call getOutputStream or getWriter on any given response, it's not allowed to do both. JSP engines use getWriter, and so you cannot call getOutputStream.

You should be writing this code as a Servlet, not a JSP. JSPs are only really suitable for textual output as contained in the JSP. You can see that there's no actual text output in your JSP, it only contains java.

Master Page Weirdness - "Content controls have to be top-level controls in a content page or a nested master page that references a master page."

I encountered this error after editing a web part (.aspx) page in SharePoint Designer 2013. When I looked at the code in SPD, an H1 element near the top of the page was highlighted yellow. Hovering over that indicated that SharePoint:AjaxDelta was not closed before the H1. Adding the </SharePoint:AjaxDelta> fixed it.

Weird because it appeared SPD introduced the error after I was working on listview web parts or a page viewer web part elsewhere on the page.

Sending email through Gmail SMTP server with C#

The problem is not one of technical ability to send through gmail. That works for most situations. If you can't get a machine to send, it is usually due to the machine not having been authenticated with a human at the controls at least once.

The problem that most users face is that Google decides to change the outbound limits all the time. You should always add defensive code to your solution. If you start seeing errors, step off your send speed and just stop sending for a while. If you keep trying to send Google will sometimes add extra time to your delay period before you can send again.

What I have done in my current system is to send with a 1.5 second delay between each message. Then if I get any errors, stop for 5 minutes and then start again. This usually works and will allow you to send up to the limits of the account (last I checked it was 2,000 for premier customer logins per day).

Why do I get "Cannot redirect after HTTP headers have been sent" when I call Response.Redirect()?

Once you send any content at all to the client, the HTTP headers have already been sent. A Response.Redirect() call works by sending special information in the headers that make the browser ask for a different URL.

Since the headers were already sent, asp.net can't do what you want (modify the headers)

You can get around this by a) either doing the Redirect before you do anything else, or b) try using Response.Buffer = true before you do anything else, to make sure that no output is sent to the client until the whole page is done executing.

Which is faster: multiple single INSERTs or one multiple-row INSERT?

It's ridiculous how bad Mysql and MariaDB are optimized when it comes to inserts. I tested mysql 5.7 and mariadb 10.3, no real difference on those.

I've tested this on a server with NVME disks, 70,000 IOPS, 1.1 GB/sec seq throughput and that's possible full duplex (read and write).
The server is a high performance server as well.
Gave it 20 GB of ram.
The database completely empty.

The speed I receive was 5000 inserts per second when doing multi row inserts (tried it with 1MB up to 10MB chunks of data)

Now the clue:
If I add another thread and insert into the SAME tables I suddenly have 2x5000 /sec. One more thread and I have 15000 total /sec

Consider this: When doing ONE thread inserts it means you can sequentially write to the disk (with exceptions to indexes). When using threads you actually degrade the possible performance because it now needs to do a lot more random accesses. But reality check shows mysql is so badly optimized that threads help a lot.

The real performance possible with such a server is probably millions per second, the CPU is idle the disk is idle.
The reason is quite clearly that mariadb just as mysql has internal delays.

How to define an enum with string value?

I wish there were a more elegant solution, like just allowing string type enum in the language level, but it seems that it is not supported yet. The code below is basically the same idea as other answers, but I think it is shorter and it can be reused. All you have to do is adding a [Description("")] above each enum entry and add a class that has 10 lines.

How does Python return multiple values from a function?

Since the return statement in getName specifies multiple elements:

def getName(self):
   return self.first_name, self.last_name

Python will return a container object that basically contains them.

In this case, returning a comma separated set of elements creates a tuple. Multiple values can only be returned inside containers.

Let's use a simpler function that returns multiple values:

def foo(a, b):
    return a, b

You can look at the byte code generated by using dis.dis, a disassembler for Python bytecode. For comma separated values w/o any brackets, it looks like this:

>>> def foo(a, b):
...     return a,b        
>>> dis.dis(foo)

As you can see the values are first loaded on the internal stack with LOAD_FAST and then a BUILD_TUPLE (grabbing the previous 2 elements placed on the stack) is generated. Python knows to create a tuple due to the commas being present.

You could alternatively specify another return type, for example a list, by using []. For this case, a BUILD_LIST is going to be issued following the same semantics as it's tuple equivalent:

The type of object returned really depends on the presence of brackets (for tuples () can be omitted if there's at least one comma). [] creates lists and {} sets. Dictionaries need key:val pairs.

To summarize, one actual object is returned. If that object is of a container type, it can contain multiple values giving the impression of multiple results returned. The usual method then is to unpack them directly:

>>> print (first_name, last_name)

As an aside to all this, your Java ways are leaking into Python :-)

Don't use getters when writing classes in Python, use properties. Properties are the idiomatic way to manage attributes, for more on these, see a nice answer here.

Specify an SSH key for git push for a given domain

An alternative approach to the one offered above by Mark Longair is to use an alias that will run any git command, on any remote, with an alternative SSH key. The idea is basically to switch your SSH identity when running the git commands.

Advantages relative to the host alias approach in the other answer:

  • Will work with any git commands or aliases, even if you can't specify the remote explicitly.
  • Easier to work with many repositories because you only need to set it up once per client machine, not once per repository on each client machine.

I use a few small scripts and a git alias admin. That way I can do, for example:

git admin push 

To push to the default remote using the alternative ("admin") SSH key. Again, you could use any command (not just push) with this alias. You could even do git admin clone ... to clone a repository that you would only have access to using your "admin" key.

Step 1: Create the alternative SSH keys, optionally set a passphrase in case you're doing this on someone else's machine.

Step 2: Create a script called “ssh-as.sh” that runs stuff that uses SSH, but uses a given SSH key rather than the default:

This is just written from memory, so might contain mistakes, but this should make an object called data that contains the values for all your inputs.

Note that you have to deal with checkboxes in a special way, to avoid getting the values of unchecked checkboxes. The same is probably true of radio inputs.

Also note using arrays for storing the values, as for one input name, you might have values from several inputs (checkboxes in particular).

I am not sure since I am not an Oracle user, but I assume that the difference lies when you use multi-byte character sets such as Unicode (UTF-16/32). In this case, 11 Bytes could account for less than 11 characters.

Also those field types might be treated differently in regard to accented characters or case, for example 'binaryField(ete) = "été"' will not match while 'charField(ete) = "été"' might (again not sure about Oracle).

hide and hidden are both deprecated and later removed, no longer exist in new versions. You can use d-none/d-sm-none/invisible etc classes depending on your needs. The probable reason they were removed is because hidden/hide is a bit confusing in the CSS context. In CSS, to hide (hidden) is used for visibility, not for display. visibility and display are different things.

If you need a class for visibility:hidden, then you need invisible class from visibility utilities.

Relative div height

Basically, the problem lies in block12. for the block1/2 to take up the total height of the block12, it must have a defined height. This stack overflow post explains that in really good detail.

So setting a defined height for block12 will allow you to set a proper height. I have created an example on JSfiddle that will show you the the blocks can be floated next to one another if the block12 div is set to a standard height through out the page.

Sort a list of numerical strings in ascending order

in python sorted works like you want with integers:

it looks like you have a problem because you are using strings:

>>> sorted(['10','3','2'])
['10', '2', '3']

(because string ordering starts with the first character, and "1" comes before "2", no matter what characters follow) which can be fixed with key=int

>>> sorted(['10','3','2'], key=int)
['2', '3', '10']

which converts the values to integers during the sort (it is called as a function - int('10') returns the integer 10)

and as suggested in the comments, you can also sort the list itself, rather than generating a new one:

but i would look into why you have strings at all. you should be able to save and retrieve integers. it looks like you are saving a string when you should be saving an int? (sqlite is unusual amongst databases, in that it kind-of stores data in the same type as it is given, even if the table column type is different).

and once you start saving integers, you can also get the list back sorted from sqlite by adding order by ... to the sql command:

Check whether $_POST-value is empty

Question: Check whether a $_POST value is empty.

Translation: Check to see if an array key/index has a value associated with it.

Answer: Depends on your emphasis on security. Depends on what is allowed as valid input.

1. Some people say use empty().

From the PHP Manual:

"[Empty] determines whether a variable is considered to be empty. A variable is considered empty if it does not exist or if its value equals FALSE."

The following are thus considered empty.

"" (an empty string)
0 (0 as an integer)
0.0 (0 as a float)
"0" (0 as a string)
NULL
FALSE
array() (an empty array)
$var; (a variable declared, but without a value)

If none of these values are valid for your input control, then empty() would work. The problem here is that empty() might be too broad to be used consistently (the same way, for the same reason, on different input control submissions to $_POST or $_GET). A good use of empty() is to check if an entire array is empty (has no elements).

2. Some people say use isset().

isset() (a language construct) cannot operate on entire arrays, as in isset($myArray). It can only operate on variables and array elements (via the index/key): isset($var) and isset($_POST['username']). The isset()language construct does two things. First it checks to see if a variable or array index/key has a value associated with it. Second, it checks to make sure that value is not equal to the PHP NULL value.

In short, the most accurate check can be accomplished best with isset(), as some input controls do not even register with $_POST when they are not selected or checked. I have never known a form that submitted the PHP NULL value. None of mine do, so I use isset() to check if a $_POST key has no value associated with it (and that is not NULL). isset()is a much stricter test of emptiness (in the sense of your question) than empty().

3. Some people say just do if($var), if($myArray), or if($myArray['userName']) to determine emptiness.

You can test anything that evaluates to true or false in an if statement. Empty arrays evaluate to false and so do variables that are not set. Variables that contain the PHP NULL value also evaluate to false. Unfortunately in this case, like with empty(), many more things also evaluate to false: 1. the empty string '', zero (0), zero.zero (0.0), the string zero '0', boolean false, and certain empty XML objects.

In conclusion, use isset() and consider combining it with other tests. Example:

May not work due to superglobal screwiness, but would work for other arrays without question.

Hence, why look for a value associated with a key before you even know for sure that $_POST represents an array and has any values stored in it at all (something many people fail to consider)? Remember, people can send data to your form without using a web browser. You may one day get to the point of testing that $_POST only has the allowed keys, but that conversation is for another day.

Find files and tar them (with spaces)

Big warning on several of the solutions (and your own test) :

When you do : anything | xargs something

xargs will try to fit "as many arguments as possible" after "something", but then you may end up with multiple invocations of "something".

So your attempt: find ... | xargs tar czvf file.tgz may end up overwriting "file.tgz" at each invocation of "tar" by xargs, and you end up with only the last invocation! (the chosen solution uses a GNU -T special parameter to avoid the problem, but not everyone has that GNU tar available)

You could do instead:

find . -type f -print0 | xargs -0 tar -rvf backup.tar
gzip backup.tar

Note: that behavior of xargs is a well know diccifulty, and it is also why, when someone wants to do :

find .... | xargs grep "regex"

they intead have to write it:

find ..... | xargs grep "regex" /dev/null

That way, even if the last invocation of grep by xargs appends only 1 filename, grep sees at least 2 filenames (as each time it has: /dev/null, where it won't find anything, and the filename(s) appended by xargs after it) and thus will always display the file names when something maches "regex". Otherwise you may end up with the last results showing matches without a filename in front.

Creating C formatted strings (not printing them)

I haven't done this, so I'm just going to point at the right answer.

C has provisions for functions that take unspecified numbers of operands, using the <stdarg.h> header. You can define your function as void log_out(const char *fmt, ...);, and get the va_list inside the function. Then you can allocate memory and call vsprintf() with the allocated memory, format, and va_list.

Alternately, you could use this to write a function analogous to sprintf() that would allocate memory and return the formatted string, generating it more or less as above. It would be a memory leak, but if you're just logging out it may not matter.

Recently I tried this.

I needed one and only one header in the whole UITableView.

Like I wanted a UIImageView on the top of the TableView. So I added a UIImageView on top of the UITableViewCell and automatically it was added as a tableViewHeader. Now I connect the ImageView to the ViewController and added the Image.

I was confused because I did something like this for the first time. So to clear my confusion open the xml format of the MainStoryBoard and found the Image View was added as a header.

It worked for me. Thanks xCode and swift.

Pure css close button

The disappointing thing here is that the "X" isn't transparent (which is how I would likely create a PNG, at least).

I put together this quick test. http://jsfiddle.net/UM3a2/22/embedded/result/ which allows you to color the positive space while leaving the negative space transparent. Since it is made entirely of borders it is easy to color since border-color defaults to the text color.

It doesn't fully support I.E. 8 and earlier (border-radius issues), but it degrades to a square fairly nicely (if you're okay with a square close button).

It also requires two HTML elements since you are only allowed two pseudo elements per selector. I don't know exactly where I learned this, but I think it was in an article by Chris Coyier.

Unless you have a specific reason not to, just use a normal object. Object properties in JavaScript can be referenced using hashtable-style syntax:

Detect Scroll Up & Scroll down in ListView

Here's what I would try first:

1) Create an interface (let's call it OnScrollTopOrBottomListener) with these methods:

2) In your list's adapter, add a member instance, typed as the interface you created and supply a setter and getter.

3) In the getView() implementation of your adapter, check if the position parameter is either 0 or getCount() - 1. Also check that your OnScrollTopOrBottomListener instance is not null.

4) If the position is 0, call onScrollTopOrBottomListener.onScrollTop(). If position is getCount() - 1, call onScrollTopOrBottomListener.onScrollBottom().

5) In your OnScrollTopOrBottomListener implementation, call the appropriate methods to get the desired data.

Pod is not started due to problem coming after initialization of POD.

pod has unbound PersistentVolumeClaims

You have to define a PersistentVolume providing disc space to be consumed by the PersistentVolumeClaim.

When using storageClass Kubernetes is going to enable "Dynamic Volume Provisioning" which is not working with the local file system.


To solve your issue:

  • Provide a PersistentVolume fulfilling the constraints of the claim (a size >= 100Mi)
  • Remove the storageClass-line from the PersistentVolumeClaim
  • Remove the StorageClass from your cluster

How do these pieces play together?

At creation of the deployment state-description it is usually known which kind (amount, speed, ...) of storage that application will need.
To make a deployment versatile you'd like to avoid a hard dependency on storage. Kubernetes' volume-abstraction allows you to provide and consume storage in a standardized way.

The PersistentVolumeClaim is used to provide a storage-constraint alongside the deployment of an application.

The PersistentVolume offers cluster-wide volume-instances ready to be consumed ("bound"). One PersistentVolume will be bound to one claim. But since multiple instances of that claim may be run on multiple nodes, that volume may be accessed by multiple nodes.

A PersistentVolume without StorageClass is considered to be static.

"Dynamic Volume Provisioning" alongside with a StorageClass allows the cluster to provision PersistentVolumes on demand. In order to make that work, the given storage provider must support provisioning - this allows the cluster to request the provisioning of a "new" PersistentVolume when an unsatisfied PersistentVolumeClaim pops up.

In order to find how to specify things you're best advised to take a look at the API for your Kubernetes version, so the following example is build from the API-Reference of K8S 1.17:

The PersistentVolumeSpec allows us to define multiple attributes. I chose a hostPath volume which maps a local directory as content for the volume. The capacity allows the resource scheduler to recognize this volume as applicable in terms of resource needs.

My general answer to this kind of question on "efficiency" is almost always, which ever version of the code is most readable, is the most efficient.

That being said, I think (val.ToLowerCase() == "astringvalue") is pretty understandable at a glance by most people.

The efficience I refer to is not necesseraly in the execution of the code but rather in the maintanance and generally readability of the code in question.

A non-blocking read on a subprocess.PIPE in Python

Existing solutions did not work for me (details below). What finally worked was to implement readline using read(1) (based on this answer). The latter does not block:

Why existing solutions did not work:

  1. Solutions that require readline (including the Queue based ones) always block. It is difficult (impossible?) to kill the thread that executes readline. It only gets killed when the process that created it finishes, but not when the output-producing process is killed.
  2. Mixing low-level fcntl with high-level readline calls may not work properly as anonnn has pointed out.
  3. Using select.poll() is neat, but doesn't work on Windows according to python docs.
  4. Using third-party libraries seems overkill for this task and adds additional dependencies.

When should one use a spinlock instead of mutex?

The Theory

In theory, when a thread tries to lock a mutex and it does not succeed, because the mutex is already locked, it will go to sleep, immediately allowing another thread to run. It will continue to sleep until being woken up, which will be the case once the mutex is being unlocked by whatever thread was holding the lock before. When a thread tries to lock a spinlock and it does not succeed, it will continuously re-try locking it, until it finally succeeds; thus it will not allow another thread to take its place (however, the operating system will forcefully switch to another thread, once the CPU runtime quantum of the current thread has been exceeded, of course).

The Problem

The problem with mutexes is that putting threads to sleep and waking them up again are both rather expensive operations, they'll need quite a lot of CPU instructions and thus also take some time. If now the mutex was only locked for a very short amount of time, the time spent in putting a thread to sleep and waking it up again might exceed the time the thread has actually slept by far and it might even exceed the time the thread would have wasted by constantly polling on a spinlock. On the other hand, polling on a spinlock will constantly waste CPU time and if the lock is held for a longer amount of time, this will waste a lot more CPU time and it would have been much better if the thread was sleeping instead.

The Solution

Using spinlocks on a single-core/single-CPU system makes usually no sense, since as long as the spinlock polling is blocking the only available CPU core, no other thread can run and since no other thread can run, the lock won't be unlocked either. IOW, a spinlock wastes only CPU time on those systems for no real benefit. If the thread was put to sleep instead, another thread could have ran at once, possibly unlocking the lock and then allowing the first thread to continue processing, once it woke up again.

On a multi-core/multi-CPU systems, with plenty of locks that are held for a very short amount of time only, the time wasted for constantly putting threads to sleep and waking them up again might decrease runtime performance noticeably. When using spinlocks instead, threads get the chance to take advantage of their full runtime quantum (always only blocking for a very short time period, but then immediately continue their work), leading to much higher processing throughput.

The Practice

Since very often programmers cannot know in advance if mutexes or spinlocks will be better (e.g. because the number of CPU cores of the target architecture is unknown), nor can operating systems know if a certain piece of code has been optimized for single-core or multi-core environments, most systems don't strictly distinguish between mutexes and spinlocks. In fact, most modern operating systems have hybrid mutexes and hybrid spinlocks. What does that actually mean?

A hybrid mutex behaves like a spinlock at first on a multi-core system. If a thread cannot lock the mutex, it won't be put to sleep immediately, since the mutex might get unlocked pretty soon, so instead the mutex will first behave exactly like a spinlock. Only if the lock has still not been obtained after a certain amount of time (or retries or any other measuring factor), the thread is really put to sleep. If the same code runs on a system with only a single core, the mutex will not spinlock, though, as, see above, that would not be beneficial.

A hybrid spinlock behaves like a normal spinlock at first, but to avoid wasting too much CPU time, it may have a back-off strategy. It will usually not put the thread to sleep (since you don't want that to happen when using a spinlock), but it may decide to stop the thread (either immediately or after a certain amount of time) and allow another thread to run, thus increasing chances that the spinlock is unlocked (a pure thread switch is usually less expensive than one that involves putting a thread to sleep and waking it up again later on, though not by far).

Summary

If in doubt, use mutexes, they are usually the better choice and most modern systems will allow them to spinlock for a very short amount of time, if this seems beneficial. Using spinlocks can sometimes improve performance, but only under certain conditions and the fact that you are in doubt rather tells me, that you are not working on any project currently where a spinlock might be beneficial. You might consider using your own "lock object", that can either use a spinlock or a mutex internally (e.g. this behavior could be configurable when creating such an object), initially use mutexes everywhere and if you think that using a spinlock somewhere might really help, give it a try and compare the results (e.g. using a profiler), but be sure to test both cases, a single-core and a multi-core system before you jump to conclusions (and possibly different operating systems, if your code will be cross-platform).

Update: A Warning for iOS

Actually not iOS specific but iOS is the platform where most developers may face that problem: If your system has a thread scheduler, that does not guarantee that any thread, no matter how low its priority may be, will eventually get a chance to run, then spinlocks can lead to permanent deadlocks. The iOS scheduler distinguishes different classes of threads and threads on a lower class will only run if no thread in a higher class wants to run as well. There is no back-off strategy for this, so if you permanently have high class threads available, low class threads will never get any CPU time and thus never any chance to perform any work.

The problem appears as follow: Your code obtains a spinlock in a low prio class thread and while it is in the middle of that lock, the time quantum has exceeded and the thread stops running. The only way how this spinlock can be released again is if that low prio class thread gets CPU time again but this is not guaranteed to happen. You may have a couple of high prio class threads that constantly want to run and the task scheduler will always prioritize those. One of them may run across the spinlock and try to obtain it, which isn't possible of course, and the system will make it yield. The problem is: A thread that yielded is immediately available for running again! Having a higher prio than the thread holding the lock, the thread holding the lock has no chance to get CPU runtime. Either some other thread will get runtime or the thread that just yielded.

Why does this problem not occur with mutexes? When the high prio thread cannot obtain the mutex, it won't yield, it may spin a bit but will eventually be sent to sleep. A sleeping thread is not available for running until it is woken up by an event, e.g. an event like the mutex being unlocked it has been waiting for. Apple is aware of that problem and has thus deprecated OSSpinLock as a result. The new lock is called os_unfair_lock. This lock avoids the situation mentioned above as it is aware of the different thread priority classes. If you are sure that using spinlocks is a good idea in your iOS project, use that one. Stay away from OSSpinLock! And under no circumstances implement your own spinlocks in iOS! If in doubt, use a mutex! macOS is not affected by this issue as it has a different thread scheduler that won't allow any thread (even low prio threads) to "run dry" on CPU time, still the same situation can arise there and will then lead to very poor performance, thus OSSpinLock is deprecated on macOS as well.

A Messagebox is always centered on the screen. You can provide an owner, but that is just for Z-order, not centering. The only way is to use Win32 hooks and center it yourself. You can find code doing that online if you search for it.

Much easier is to just write your own message box class and add centering functionality. Then you can also add default captioning, Do not show again-checkbox and making them modeless.

"Win32 hooks" probably refers to using SetWindowsHookEx as shown in this example.

The environment variable to set is MAVEN_OPTS, for example MAVEN_OPTS=-Xmx1024m. The maxmem configuration in the pom only applies when you set the compiler plugin to fork javac into a new JVM. Passing null arguments to C# methods

Yes. There are two kinds of types in .NET: reference types and value types.

References types (generally classes) are always referred to by references, so they support null without any extra work. This means that if a variable's type is a reference type, the variable is automatically a reference.

Value types (e.g. int) by default do not have a concept of null. However, there is a wrapper for them called Nullable. This enables you to encapsulate the non-nullable value type and include null information.

is a concept that languages like Perl have had for quite a while, and now we’ll get this ability in C# as well. In String Interpolation, we simply prefix the string with a $ (much like we use the @ for verbatim strings). Then, we simply surround the expressions we want to interpolate with curly braces (i.e. { and }):

It looks a lot like the String.Format() placeholders, but instead of an index, it is the expression itself inside the curly braces. In fact, it shouldn’t be a surprise that it looks like String.Format() because that’s really all it is – syntactical sugar that the compiler treats like String.Format() behind the scenes.

A great part is, the compiler now maintains the placeholders for you so you don’t have to worry about indexing the right argument because you simply place it right there in the string.

C# string interpolation is a method of concatenating,formatting and manipulating strings. This feature was introduced in C# 6.0. Using string interpolation, we can use objects and expressions as a part of the string interpolation operation.

Syntax of string interpolation starts with a ‘$’ symbol and expressions are defined within a bracket {} using the following syntax.

{<interpolatedExpression>[,<alignment>][:<formatString>]}

  • interpolatedExpression - The expression that produces a result to be formatted

DTO - Data transfer objects are just data containers which are used to transport data between layers and tiers.

  • It mainly contains attributes. You can even use public attributes without getters and setters.
  • Data transfer objects do not contain any business logic.

Analogy:
Simple Registration form with attributes username, password and email id.

  • When this form is submitted in RegistrationServlet file you will get all the attributes from view layer to business layer where you pass the attributes to java beans and then to the DAO or the persistence layer.
  • DTO's helps in transporting the attributes from view layer to business layer and finally to the persistence layer.

POJO vs JavaBeans

Where is Python language used?

All the languages you've mentioned are Turing Complete, so in theory there is nothing one can do and another can't. In practice of course, there are differences, especially in productivity and efficiency. Compared to C, C++ and Java, which are static typed, Python is a dynamic language and can help you write the same code in significantly fewer lines. Python has a moto "batteries included", which means that the standard library offers all the things needed to build a complex application. Other languages would need external libraries for this. On top of this, since Python is an old and mature language (older than Java), many external libraries (for game development and scientific calculations just to mention a few) have been evolved. So Python can be used to program desktop applications and in fact in some cases more efficiently than other traditional languages.

Python is also a scripting language. This means that you can easily and quickly write scripts and simple tests with it.

More recently python is also used for web frameworks. Since there is a big code base and many python programmers, this was a logical thing to do. These web frameworks follow the practice mainly introduced by Ruby on Rails.

IF EXISTS in T-SQL

Yes it stops execution so this is generally preferable to HAVING COUNT(*) > 0 which often won't.

With EXISTS if you look at the execution plan you will see that the actual number of rows coming out of table1 will not be more than 1 irrespective of number of matching records.

In some circumstances SQL Server can convert the tree for the COUNT query to the same as the one for EXISTS during the simplification phase (with a semi join and no aggregate operator in sight) an example of that is discussed in the comments here.

For more complicated sub trees than shown in the question you may occasionally find the COUNT performs better than EXISTS however. Because the semi join needs only retrieve one row from the sub tree this can encourage a plan with nested loops for that part of the tree - which may not work out optimal in practice.

It's not because you are using alert, it will happen when use document.write() too. This problem generally arises when you name your id or class of any tag as same as any variable which you are using in you javascript code. Try by changing either the javascript variable name or by changing your tag's id/class name.

Yes, exactly. Weirdly enough, you also need the file to have the x bit set. (at least on Android 2.3)

We just started using Team Foundation Server. If your database is medium sized, then visual studio has some nice project integrations with built in compare, data compare, database refactoring tools, database testing framework, and even data generation tools.

But, that model doesn't fit very large or third party databases (that encrypt objects) very well. So, what we've done is to store only our customized objects. Visual Studio / Team foundation server works very well for that.

The Decision between Member and Non-member

The binary operators = (assignment), [] (array subscription), -> (member access), as well as the n-ary () (function call) operator, must always be implemented as member functions, because the syntax of the language requires them to.

Other operators can be implemented either as members or as non-members. Some of them, however, usually have to be implemented as non-member functions, because their left operand cannot be modified by you. The most prominent of these are the input and output operators << and >>, whose left operands are stream classes from the standard library which you cannot change.

For all operators where you have to choose to either implement them as a member function or a non-member function, use the following rules of thumb to decide:

  1. If it is a unary operator, implement it as a member function.
  2. If a binary operator treats both operands equally (it leaves them unchanged), implement this operator as a non-member function.
  3. If a binary operator does not treat both of its operands equally (usually it will change its left operand), it might be useful to make it a member function of its left operand’s type, if it has to access the operand's private parts.

Of course, as with all rules of thumb, there are exceptions. If you have a type

Remove git mapping in Visual Studio 2015

A Git repository can be removed from the Local Git Repositories list in VS-2015 when it is no longer the active project.

Your screen shot has only have one repository present, and it is active, so you can't remove it.

When you have two or more repositories, one of them will be shown in BOLD representing the active repository. Other non-active repositories can, at that time, be removed.

So, to solve your problem, if you connect with a second local repository, you will be able to remove the one you are highlighting in your screen shot.

Unfortunately, Team Explorer seems to always keep one repository active. Not sure how to convince it to let go altogether without switching to another repository.

The main differences between InnoDB and MyISAM ("with respect to designing a table or database" you asked about) are support for "referential integrity" and "transactions".

If you need the database to enforce foreign key constraints, or you need the database to support transactions (i.e. changes made by two or more DML operations handled as single unit of work, with all of the changes either applied, or all the changes reverted) then you would choose the InnoDB engine, since these features are absent from the MyISAM engine.

Those are the two biggest differences. Another big difference is concurrency. With MyISAM, a DML statement will obtain an exclusive lock on the table, and while that lock is held, no other session can perform a SELECT or a DML operation on the table.

Those two specific engines you asked about (InnoDB and MyISAM) have different design goals. MySQL also has other storage engines, with their own design goals.

So, in choosing between InnoDB and MyISAM, the first step is in determining if you need the features provided by InnoDB. If not, then MyISAM is up for consideration.

A more detailed discussion of differences is rather impractical (in this forum) absent a more detailed discussion of the problem space... how the application will use the database, how many tables, size of the tables, the transaction load, volumes of select, insert, updates, concurrency requirements, replication features, etc.


The logical design of the database should be centered around data analysis and user requirements; the choice to use a relational database would come later, and even later would the choice of MySQL as a relational database management system, and then the selection of a storage engine for each table.

Visual Studio displaying errors even if projects build

I've noticed that sometimes when switching git branches, Visual Studio (2017) will not recognize types from some files that had been added in the second branch. Deleting the .vs folder solves it, but it also trashes all your workspace settings. This trick seems to work well for me:

  1. Solution Explorer -> Find the file with the unrecognized class in it.
  2. Click Show All Files at the top of the Solution Explorer.
  3. Right-click the file -> Exclude from project.
  4. Right-click the file again -> Include in project.

This causes Intellisense to parse the file that it missed when switching branches.

The two structs are different. When you initialize the first struct, about 40 bytes of memory are allocated. When you initialize the second struct, about 10 bytesof memory are allocated. (Actual amount is architecture dependent)

You can use the string literals (string constants) to initalize character arrays. This is why

works in the first example.

You cannot assign (in the conventional sense) a string in C.

The string literals you have ("John") are loaded into memory when your code executes. When you initialize an array with one of these literals, then the string is copied into a new memory location. In your second example, you are merely copying the pointer to (location of) the string literal. Doing something like:

char* string = "Hello";
*string = 'C'

might cause compile or runtime errors (I am not sure.) It is a bad idea because you are modifying the literal string "Hello" which, for example on a microcontroler, could be located in read-only memory.

Marshal.Copy works but is rather slow. Faster is to copy the bytes in a for loop. Even faster is to cast the byte array to a ulong array, copy as much ulong as fits in the byte array, then copy the possible remaining 7 bytes (the trail that is not 8 bytes aligned). Fastest is to pin the byte array in a fixed statement as proposed above in Tyalis' answer.

In C, a "stream" is an abstraction; from the program's perspective it is simply a producer (input stream) or consumer (output stream) of bytes. You may also encounter this error if you have a saved bearer token that is now invalid. I've encountered this when using a private repo where the accounts were wiped and reset, invalidating the tokens. Although your repo may not require authentication, if you have a token from a previous login it will be passed and if it's invalid your connection will be closed.

You can resolve this by either logging in again with the new user name and password, or presumably by simply logging out via npm.

Your input format looks quite standard, except the trailing Z. Anyway, let's deal with this: "yyyy-MM-dd'T'HH:mm:ss.SSS'Z'". The trailing 'Z' is the interesting part. Usually there's time zone data here, like -0700. So the pattern would be ...Z, i.e. without apostrophes.

The output format is way more simple: "dd-MM-yyyy". Mind the small y -s.

Generally you should use String.Format because it's relatively fast and it supports globalization (assuming you're actually trying to write something that is read by the user). Now if you never plan on translating anything, then either rely on Java's built in conversion of + operators into StringBuilder. Or use Java's StringBuilder explicitly.

There is another way to add an new column to an existing dataframe. 1st step, make a new empty data frame (with all the columns in your data frame, plus a new or few columns you want to add) called df_temp 2nd step, combine the df_temp and your data frame.

You have to hide the column at the grid view control rather than at the data source. Hiding it at the data source it will not render to the grid view at all, therefore you won't be able to access the value in the grid view. Doing it the way you're suggesting, you would have to access the column value through the data source as opposed to the grid view.

To hide the column on the grid view control, you can use code like this:

dataGridView1.Columns[0].Visible = false;

To access the column from the data source, you could try something like this:

The best way to help memory to be freed is to nullify large objects:

Sub Whatever()
    Dim someLargeObject as SomeObject

    'expensive computation

    Set someLargeObject = Nothing
End Sub

Also note that global variables remain allocated from one call to another, so if you don't need persistence you should either not use global variables or nullify them when you don't need them any longer.

However this won't help if:

  • you need the object after the procedure (obviously)
  • your object does not fit in memory

Another possibility is to switch to a 64 bit version of Excel which should be able to use more RAM before crashing (32 bits versions are typically limited at around 1.3GB).
