Create a day-of-week column in a Pandas dataframe using Python

Pandas 0.23+

Use pandas.Series.dt.day_name(), since pandas.Timestamp.weekday_name has been deprecated:

import pandas as pd

df = pd.DataFrame({'my_dates':['2015-01-01','2015-01-02','2015-01-03'],'myvals':[1,2,3]})
df['my_dates'] = pd.to_datetime(df['my_dates'])

df['day_of_week'] = df['my_dates'].dt.day_name()

Output:

    my_dates  myvals day_of_week
0 2015-01-01       1    Thursday
1 2015-01-02       2      Friday
2 2015-01-03       3    Saturday

Pandas 0.18.1+

As user jezrael points out below, dt.weekday_name was added in version 0.18.1 Pandas Docs

import pandas as pd

df = pd.DataFrame({'my_dates':['2015-01-01','2015-01-02','2015-01-03'],'myvals':[1,2,3]})
df['my_dates'] = pd.to_datetime(df['my_dates'])
df['day_of_week'] = df['my_dates'].dt.weekday_name

Output:

    my_dates  myvals day_of_week
0 2015-01-01       1    Thursday
1 2015-01-02       2      Friday
2 2015-01-03       3    Saturday

Original Answer:

Use this:

http://pandas.pydata.org/pandas-docs/stable/generated/pandas.Series.dt.dayofweek.html

See this:

Get weekday/day-of-week for Datetime column of DataFrame

If you want a string instead of an integer do something like this:

import pandas as pd

df = pd.DataFrame({'my_dates':['2015-01-01','2015-01-02','2015-01-03'],'myvals':[1,2,3]})
df['my_dates'] = pd.to_datetime(df['my_dates'])
df['day_of_week'] = df['my_dates'].dt.dayofweek

days = {0:'Mon',1:'Tues',2:'Weds',3:'Thurs',4:'Fri',5:'Sat',6:'Sun'}

df['day_of_week'] = df['day_of_week'].apply(lambda x: days[x])

Output:

    my_dates  myvals day_of_week
0 2015-01-01       1       Thurs
1 2015-01-02       2         Fri
2 2015-01-01       3       Thurs

EntityType 'IdentityUserLogin' has no key defined. Define the key for this EntityType

By Changing The DbContext As Below;

    protected override void OnModelCreating(DbModelBuilder modelBuilder)
    {
        base.OnModelCreating(modelBuilder);
        modelBuilder.Conventions.Remove<OneToManyCascadeDeleteConvention>();
        modelBuilder.Conventions.Remove<ManyToManyCascadeDeleteConvention>();
    }

Just adding in OnModelCreating method call to base.OnModelCreating(modelBuilder); and it becomes fine. I am using EF6.

Android: making a fullscreen application

If you Checkout the current Android Studio. You could create a New Activity with the Full-screen template. If you Create such an Activity. You could look into the basic code that Android Studio uses to switch between full-screen and normal mode.

Gallery Showing the Full-Screen Activity

This is the code I found in there. With some minor tweaks I'm sure you'll get what you need.

public class FullscreenActivity extends AppCompatActivity {
    private static final boolean AUTO_HIDE = true;
    private static final int AUTO_HIDE_DELAY_MILLIS = 3000;
    private static final int UI_ANIMATION_DELAY = 300;
    private final Handler mHideHandler = new Handler();
    private View mContentView;
    private final Runnable mHidePart2Runnable = new Runnable() {
        @SuppressLint("InlinedApi")
        @Override
        public void run() {
            // Delayed removal of status and navigation bar

            // Note that some of these constants are new as of API 16 (Jelly Bean)
            // and API 19 (KitKat). It is safe to use them, as they are inlined
            // at compile-time and do nothing on earlier devices.
            mContentView.setSystemUiVisibility(View.SYSTEM_UI_FLAG_LOW_PROFILE

        mControlsView.setVisibility(View.GONE);
        mVisible = false;

        // Schedule a runnable to remove the status and navigation bar after a delay
        mHideHandler.removeCallbacks(mShowPart2Runnable);
        mHideHandler.postDelayed(mHidePart2Runnable, UI_ANIMATION_DELAY);

        mVisible = true;

        // Schedule a runnable to display UI elements after a delay
        mHideHandler.removeCallbacks(mHidePart2Runnable);
        mHideHandler.postDelayed(mShowPart2Runnable, UI_ANIMATION_DELAY);
    }
    private void delayedHide(int delayMillis) {
        mHideHandler.removeCallbacks(mHideRunnable);
        mHideHandler.postDelayed(mHideRunnable, delayMillis);
    }
}

Now I went further to checkout how this could be done in a more simple fashion. Making changes to the AppTheme style in your styles.xml file would be most helpful. This changes all your activities to a Full Screen view.

<item name="windowActionBar">false</item>
<item name="windowNoTitle">true</item>
<item name="android:windowFullscreen">true</item>

If you want only some activities to look Full Screen, you could create a new AppTheme that extends your current app theme and include the above code in that new style that you created. This way, you just have to set style=yournewapptheme in the manifest of whichever activity you want to go Full Screen

Display A Popup Only Once Per User

The code to show only one time the popup (Bootstrap Modal in the case) :

modal.js

 $(document).ready(function() {
     if (Cookies('pop') == null) {
         $('#ModalIdName').modal('show');
         Cookies('pop', '365');
     }
 });

Here is the full code snipet for Rails :

Add the script above to your js repo (in Rails : app/javascript/packs)

In Rails we have a specific packing way for script, so :

  1. Download the js-cookie plugin (needed to work with Javascript Cokkies) https://github.com/js-cookie/js-cookie (the name should be : 'js.cookie.js')

    /*!
     * JavaScript Cookie v2.2.0
     * https://github.com/js-cookie/js-cookie
     *
     * Copyright 2006, 2015 Klaus Hartl & Fagner Brack
     * Released under the MIT license
     */
    ;(function (factory) {
      var registeredInModuleLoader = false;
      if (typeof define === 'function' && define.amd) {
        define(factory);
        registeredInModul
     ...

  2. Add //= require js.cookie to application.js

It will works perfectly for 365 days!

NSURLConnection Using iOS Swift

Check Below Codes :

1. SynchronousRequest

Swift 1.2

    let urlPath: String = "YOUR_URL_HERE"
    var url: NSURL = NSURL(string: urlPath)!
    var request1: NSURLRequest = NSURLRequest(URL: url)
    var response: AutoreleasingUnsafeMutablePointer<NSURLResponse?>=nil
    var dataVal: NSData = NSURLConnection.sendSynchronousRequest(request1, returningResponse: response, error:nil)!
    var err: NSError
    println(response)
    var jsonResult: NSDictionary = NSJSONSerialization.JSONObjectWithData(dataVal, options: NSJSONReadingOptions.MutableContainers, error: &err) as? NSDictionary
    println("Synchronous\(jsonResult)")

Swift 2.0 +

let urlPath: String = "YOUR_URL_HERE"
    let url: NSURL = NSURL(string: urlPath)!
    let request1: NSURLRequest = NSURLRequest(URL: url)
    let response: AutoreleasingUnsafeMutablePointer<NSURLResponse?>=nil

    do{

        let dataVal = try NSURLConnection.sendSynchronousRequest(request1, returningResponse: response)

            print(response)
            do {
                if let jsonResult = try NSJSONSerialization.JSONObjectWithData(dataVal, options: []) as? NSDictionary {
                    print("Synchronous\(jsonResult)")
                }
            } catch let error as NSError {
                print(error.localizedDescription)
            }

    }catch let error as NSError
    {
         print(error.localizedDescription)
    }

2. AsynchonousRequest

Swift 1.2

let urlPath: String = "YOUR_URL_HERE"
    var url: NSURL = NSURL(string: urlPath)!
    var request1: NSURLRequest = NSURLRequest(URL: url)
    let queue:NSOperationQueue = NSOperationQueue()
    NSURLConnection.sendAsynchronousRequest(request1, queue: queue, completionHandler:{ (response: NSURLResponse!, data: NSData!, error: NSError!) -> Void in
        var err: NSError
        var jsonResult: NSDictionary = NSJSONSerialization.JSONObjectWithData(data, options: NSJSONReadingOptions.MutableContainers, error: nil) as NSDictionary
        println("Asynchronous\(jsonResult)")
       })

Swift 2.0 +

let urlPath: String = "YOUR_URL_HERE"
    let url: NSURL = NSURL(string: urlPath)!
    let request1: NSURLRequest = NSURLRequest(URL: url)
    let queue:NSOperationQueue = NSOperationQueue()

    NSURLConnection.sendAsynchronousRequest(request1, queue: queue, completionHandler:{ (response: NSURLResponse?, data: NSData?, error: NSError?) -> Void in

        do {
            if let jsonResult = try NSJSONSerialization.JSONObjectWithData(data!, options: []) as? NSDictionary {
                print("ASynchronous\(jsonResult)")
            }
        } catch let error as NSError {
            print(error.localizedDescription)
        }

    })

3. As usual URL connection

Swift 1.2

    var dataVal = NSMutableData()
    let urlPath: String = "YOUR URL HERE"
    var url: NSURL = NSURL(string: urlPath)!
    var request: NSURLRequest = NSURLRequest(URL: url)
    var connection: NSURLConnection = NSURLConnection(request: request, delegate: self, startImmediately: true)!
    connection.start()

Then

 func connection(connection: NSURLConnection!, didReceiveData data: NSData!){
    self.dataVal?.appendData(data)
}

func connectionDidFinishLoading(connection: NSURLConnection!)
{
    var error: NSErrorPointer=nil

    var jsonResult: NSDictionary = NSJSONSerialization.JSONObjectWithData(dataVal!, options: NSJSONReadingOptions.MutableContainers, error: error) as NSDictionary

    println(jsonResult)

}

Swift 2.0 +

   var dataVal = NSMutableData()
    let urlPath: String = "YOUR URL HERE"
    var url: NSURL = NSURL(string: urlPath)!
    var request: NSURLRequest = NSURLRequest(URL: url)
    var connection: NSURLConnection = NSURLConnection(request: request, delegate: self, startImmediately: true)!
    connection.start()

Then

func connection(connection: NSURLConnection!, didReceiveData data: NSData!){
    dataVal.appendData(data)
}

func connectionDidFinishLoading(connection: NSURLConnection!)
{

    do {
        if let jsonResult = try NSJSONSerialization.JSONObjectWithData(dataVal, options: []) as? NSDictionary {
            print(jsonResult)
        }
    } catch let error as NSError {
        print(error.localizedDescription)
    }

}

4. Asynchronous POST Request

Swift 1.2

    let urlPath: String = "YOUR URL HERE"
    var url: NSURL = NSURL(string: urlPath)!
    var request1: NSMutableURLRequest = NSMutableURLRequest(URL: url)

    request1.HTTPMethod = "POST"

    let data = stringPost.dataUsingEncoding(NSUTF8StringEncoding)

    request1.timeoutInterval = 60
    request1.HTTPBody=data
    request1.HTTPShouldHandleCookies=false

    let queue:NSOperationQueue = NSOperationQueue()

     NSURLConnection.sendAsynchronousRequest(request1, queue: queue, completionHandler:{ (response: NSURLResponse!, data: NSData!, error: NSError!) -> Void in

        var err: NSError

        var jsonResult: NSDictionary = NSJSONSerialization.JSONObjectWithData(data, options: NSJSONReadingOptions.MutableContainers, error: nil) as NSDictionary
        println("AsSynchronous\(jsonResult)")

        })

Swift 2.0 +

let urlPath: String = "YOUR URL HERE"
    let url: NSURL = NSURL(string: urlPath)!
    let request1: NSMutableURLRequest = NSMutableURLRequest(URL: url)

    request1.HTTPMethod = "POST"
    let stringPost="deviceToken=123456" // Key and Value

    let data = stringPost.dataUsingEncoding(NSUTF8StringEncoding)

    request1.timeoutInterval = 60
    request1.HTTPBody=data
    request1.HTTPShouldHandleCookies=false

    let queue:NSOperationQueue = NSOperationQueue()

    NSURLConnection.sendAsynchronousRequest(request1, queue: queue, completionHandler:{ (response: NSURLResponse?, data: NSData?, error: NSError?) -> Void in

        do {
            if let jsonResult = try NSJSONSerialization.JSONObjectWithData(data!, options: []) as? NSDictionary {
                print("ASynchronous\(jsonResult)")
            }
        } catch let error as NSError {
            print(error.localizedDescription)
        }

    })

5. Asynchronous GET Request

Swift 1.2

    let urlPath: String = "YOUR URL HERE"
    var url: NSURL = NSURL(string: urlPath)!
    var request1: NSMutableURLRequest = NSMutableURLRequest(URL: url)

    request1.HTTPMethod = "GET"
    request1.timeoutInterval = 60
    let queue:NSOperationQueue = NSOperationQueue()

     NSURLConnection.sendAsynchronousRequest(request1, queue: queue, completionHandler:{ (response: NSURLResponse!, data: NSData!, error: NSError!) -> Void in

        var err: NSError

        var jsonResult: NSDictionary = NSJSONSerialization.JSONObjectWithData(data, options: NSJSONReadingOptions.MutableContainers, error: nil) as NSDictionary
        println("AsSynchronous\(jsonResult)")

        })

Swift 2.0 +

let urlPath: String = "YOUR URL HERE"
    let url: NSURL = NSURL(string: urlPath)!
    let request1: NSMutableURLRequest = NSMutableURLRequest(URL: url)

    request1.HTTPMethod = "GET"
    let queue:NSOperationQueue = NSOperationQueue()

    NSURLConnection.sendAsynchronousRequest(request1, queue: queue, completionHandler:{ (response: NSURLResponse?, data: NSData?, error: NSError?) -> Void in

        do {
            if let jsonResult = try NSJSONSerialization.JSONObjectWithData(data!, options: []) as? NSDictionary {
                print("ASynchronous\(jsonResult)")
            }
        } catch let error as NSError {
            print(error.localizedDescription)
        }

    })

6. Image(File) Upload

Swift 2.0 +

  let mainURL = "YOUR_URL_HERE"

    let url = NSURL(string: mainURL)
    let request = NSMutableURLRequest(URL: url!)
    let boundary = "78876565564454554547676"
    request.addValue("multipart/form-data; boundary=\(boundary)", forHTTPHeaderField: "Content-Type")

    request.HTTPMethod = "POST" // POST OR PUT What you want
    let session = NSURLSession(configuration:NSURLSessionConfiguration.defaultSessionConfiguration(), delegate: nil, delegateQueue: nil)

    let imageData = UIImageJPEGRepresentation(UIImage(named: "Test.jpeg")!, 1)

    var body = NSMutableData()

    body.appendData("--\(boundary)\r\n".dataUsingEncoding(NSUTF8StringEncoding)!)

            let outputString : NSString = NSString(data:data!, encoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding)!
            print("Response:\(outputString)")

        }
    }
    dataTask.resume()

7. GET,POST,Etc Swift 3.0 +

let request = NSMutableURLRequest(url: URL(string: "YOUR_URL_HERE" ,param: param))!,
    cachePolicy: .useProtocolCachePolicy,
    timeoutInterval:60)
request.httpMethod = "POST" // POST ,GET, PUT What you want

let session = URLSession.shared

  let dataTask = session.dataTask(with: request as URLRequest) {data,response,error in

do {
            if let jsonResult = try NSJSONSerialization.JSONObjectWithData(data!, options: []) as? NSDictionary {
                print("ASynchronous\(jsonResult)")
            }
        } catch let error as NSError {
            print(error.localizedDescription)
        }

    }
    dataTask.resume()

Bootstrap Modal sitting behind backdrop

If you can't put the modal to the root (if your use angular and the modal is in a controller for example), modifying bootstrap or using js is obviously a bad solution.

so saying you have your website structure:

//not working
<div>
    <div>
        <div>
            <modal></modal>
        </div>
    </div>
</div>

open your code inspector and move the modal to the root, it should be working (but no where you want):

//should be working
<div>
    <div>
        <div>

        </div>
    </div>
</div>
<modal></modal>

now put it in the first div and check if it's working: if yes check the next child until it's not working and find the div that is the problem;

//should be working
<div>
    <div>
        <div>

        </div>
    </div>
    <modal></modal>
</div>

Once you know which div is the problem you can play with the css display and position to make it work.

everyone has a different structure but in my case setting a parent to display: table; was the solution

Error: request entity too large

If you are using express.json() and bodyParser together it will give error as express sets its own limit.

app.use(express.json());
app.use(express.urlencoded({ extended: false }));

remove above code and just add below code

app.use(bodyParser.json({ limit: "200mb" }));
app.use(bodyParser.urlencoded({ limit: "200mb",  extended: true, parameterLimit: 1000000 }));

JDBC ODBC Driver Connection

As mentioned in the comments to the question, the JDBC-ODBC Bridge is - as the name indicates - only a mechanism for the JDBC layer to "talk to" the ODBC layer. Even if you had a JDBC-ODBC Bridge on your Mac you would also need to have

  • an implementation of ODBC itself, and
  • an appropriate ODBC driver for the target database (ACE/Jet, a.k.a. "Access")

So, for most people, using JDBC-ODBC Bridge technology to manipulate ACE/Jet ("Access") databases is really a practical option only under Windows. It is also important to note that the JDBC-ODBC Bridge will be has been removed in Java 8 (ref: here).

There are other ways of manipulating ACE/Jet databases from Java, such as UCanAccess and Jackcess. Both of these are pure Java implementations so they work on non-Windows platforms. For details on how to use UCanAccess see

Initializing array of structures

It's called designated initializer which is introduced in C99. It's used to initialize struct or arrays, in this example, struct.

Given

struct point {
    int x, y;
};

the following initialization

struct point p = { .y = 2, .x = 1 };

is equivalent to the C89-style

struct point p = { 1, 2 };

Mail not sending with PHPMailer over SSL using SMTP

Don't use SSL on port 465, it's been deprecated since 1998 and is only used by Microsoft products that didn't get the memo; use TLS on port 587 instead: So, the code below should work very well for you.

mail->IsSMTP(); // telling the class to use SMTP
$mail->Host       = "smtp.gmail.com"; // SMTP server

$mail->SMTPAuth   = true;                  // enable SMTP authentication
$mail->SMTPSecure = "tls"; // sets the prefix to the servier
$mail->Host = "smtp.gmail.com"; // sets GMAIL as the SMTP server
$mail->Port = 587; // set the SMTP port for the

AngularJS HTTP post to PHP and undefined

This is the best solution (IMO) as it requires no jQuery and no JSON decode:

Source: https://wordpress.stackexchange.com/a/179373 and: https://stackoverflow.com/a/1714899/196507

Summary:

//Replacement of jQuery.param
var serialize = function(obj, prefix) {
  var str = [];
  for(var p in obj) {
    if (obj.hasOwnProperty(p)) {
      var k = prefix ? prefix + "[" + p + "]" : p, v = obj[p];
      str.push(typeof v == "object" ?
        serialize(v, k) :
        encodeURIComponent(k) + "=" + encodeURIComponent(v));
    }
  }
  return str.join("&");
};

//Your AngularJS application:
var app = angular.module('foo', []);

app.config(function ($httpProvider) {
    // send all requests payload as query string
    $httpProvider.defaults.transformRequest = function(data){
        if (data === undefined) {
            return data;
        }
        return serialize(data);
    };

    // set all post requests content type
    $httpProvider.defaults.headers.post['Content-Type'] = 'application/x-www-form-urlencoded; charset=UTF-8';
});

Example:

...
   var data = { id: 'some_id', name : 'some_name' };
   $http.post(my_php_url,data).success(function(data){
        // It works!
   }).error(function() {
        // :(
   });

PHP code:

<?php
    $id = $_POST["id"];
?>

I don't see any margin or margin-left declarations for #footer-wrap li.

This ought to do the trick:

How to search for string in an array

Completing remark to Jimmy Pena's accepted answer

As SeanC points out, this must be a 1-D array.

The following example call demonstrates that the IsInArray() function cannot be called only for 1-dim arrays, but also for "flat" 2-dim arrays:

Sub TestIsInArray()
    Const SearchItem As String = "ghi"
    Debug.Print "SearchItem = '" & SearchItem & "'"
    '----
    'a) Test 1-dim array
    Dim Arr As Variant
    Arr = Split("abc,def,ghi,jkl", ",")
    Debug.Print "a) 1-dim array " & vbNewLine & "   " & Join(Arr, "|") & " ~~> " & IsInArray(SearchItem, Arr)
    '----

        '//quick tool to create a 2-dim 1-based array
        Dim v As Variant, vals As Variant
        v = Array(Array("abc", "def", "dummy", "jkl", 5), _
                  Array("mno", "pqr", "stu", "ghi", "vwx"))
        v = Application.Index(v, 0, 0)  ' create 2-dim array (2 rows, 5 cols)

    'b) Test "flat" 2-dim arrays
    Debug.Print "b) ""flat"" 2-dim arrays "
    Dim i As Long
    For i = LBound(v) To UBound(v)
        'slice "flat" 2-dim arrays of one row each
        vals = Application.Index(v, i, 0)
        'check for findings
        Debug.Print Format(i, "   0"), Join(vals, "|") & " ~~> " & IsInArray(SearchItem, vals)
    Next i
End Sub
Function IsInArray(stringToBeFound As String, Arr As Variant) As Boolean
'Site: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/10951687/how-to-search-for-string-in-an-array/10952705
'Note: needs a "flat" array, not necessarily a 1-dimensioned array
  IsInArray = (UBound(Filter(Arr, stringToBeFound)) > -1)
End Function

Results in VB Editor's immediate window

SearchItem = 'ghi'
a) 1-dim array
   abc|def|ghi|jkl ~~> Wahr
b) "flat" 2-dim arrays
   1          abc|def|dummy|jkl|5         False

Uploading both data and files in one form using Ajax?

A Simple but more effective way:
new FormData() is itself like a container (or a bag). You can put everything attr or file in itself. The only thing you'll need to append the attribute, file, fileName eg:

let formData = new FormData()
formData.append('input', input.files[0], input.files[0].name)

and just pass it in AJAX request. Eg:

    let formData = new FormData()
    var d = $('#fileid')[0].files[0]

    formData.append('fileid', d);
    formData.append('inputname', value);

    $.ajax({
        url: '/yourroute',
        method: 'POST',
        contentType: false,
        processData: false,
        data: formData,
        success: function(res){
            console.log('successfully')
        },
        error: function(){
            console.log('error')
        }
    })

You can append n number of files or data with FormData.

and if you're making AJAX Request from Script.js file to Route file in Node.js beware of using
req.body to access data (ie text)
req.files to access file (ie image, video etc)

Node package ( Grunt ) installed but not available

There is one more way to run grunt on windows, without adding anything globally. This is a case when you don't have to do anything with %PATH%

if you have grunt and grunt-cli installed (without -g switch). Either by:

npm install grunt-cli
npm install [email protected]

Or by having that in your packages.json file like:

"devDependencies": {
    "grunt-cli": "^1.2.0",
    "grunt": "^0.4.5",

You can call grunt from your local installation by:

node node_modules\grunt-cli\bin\grunt --version

This is a solution for those who for some reasons don't want to or can't play with PATH, or have something else messing it all the time, for instance on a build agent.

Edit: Added versions as the grunt-cli works with grunt > 0.3

Set Text property of asp:label in Javascript PROPER way

Asp.net codebehind runs on server first and then page is rendered to client (browser). Codebehind has no access to client side (javascript, html) because it lives on server only.

So, either use ajax and sent value of label to code behind. You can use PageMethods , or simply post the page to server where codebehind lives, so codebehind can know the updated value :)

How can I change property names when serializing with Json.net?

If you don't have access to the classes to change the properties, or don't want to always use the same rename property, renaming can also be done by creating a custom resolver.

For example, if you have a class called MyCustomObject, that has a property called LongPropertyName, you can use a custom resolver like this…

public class CustomDataContractResolver : DefaultContractResolver
{
  public static readonly CustomDataContractResolver Instance = new CustomDataContractResolver ();

  protected override JsonProperty CreateProperty(MemberInfo member, MemberSerialization memberSerialization)
  {
    var property = base.CreateProperty(member, memberSerialization);
    if (property.DeclaringType == typeof(MyCustomObject))
    {
      if (property.PropertyName.Equals("LongPropertyName", StringComparison.OrdinalIgnoreCase))
      {
        property.PropertyName = "Short";
      }
    }
    return property;
  }
}

Then call for serialization and supply the resolver:

 var result = JsonConvert.SerializeObject(myCustomObjectInstance,
                new JsonSerializerSettings { ContractResolver = CustomDataContractResolver.Instance });

And the result will be shortened to {"Short":"prop value"} instead of {"LongPropertyName":"prop value"}

Stop fixed position at footer

I've made some changes to the second most popular answer as i found this worked better for me. The changes use window.innerHeight as it is more dynamic than adding your own height for the nav (above used + 570). this allows the code to work on mobile, tablet and desktop dynamicly.

$(window).scroll(() => {
            //Distance from top fo document to top of footer
            topOfFooter = $('#footer').position().top;
             // Distance user has scrolled from top + windows inner height
             scrollDistanceFromTopOfDoc = $(document).scrollTop() + window.innerHeight;
             // Difference between the two.
             scrollDistanceFromTopOfFooter = scrollDistanceFromTopOfDoc - topOfFooter;
            // If user has scrolled further than footer,
              if (scrollDistanceFromTopOfDoc > topOfFooter) {
                // add margin-bottom so button stays above footer.
                $('#floating-button').css('margin-bottom',  0 + scrollDistanceFromTopOfFooter);
              } else  {
                // remove margin-bottom so button goes back to the bottom of the page
                $('#floating-button').css('margin-bottom', 0);
              }
            });

How to implement custom JsonConverter in JSON.NET to deserialize a List of base class objects?

Just thought i would share a solution also based on this that works with the Knowntype attribute using reflection , had to get derived class from any base class, solution can benefit from recursion to find the best matching class though i didn't need it in my case, matching is done by the type given to the converter if it has KnownTypes it will scan them all until it matches a type that has all the properties inside the json string, first one to match will be chosen.

usage is as simple as:

 string json = "{ Name:\"Something\", LastName:\"Otherthing\" }";
 var ret  = JsonConvert.DeserializeObject<A>(json, new KnownTypeConverter());

in the above case ret will be of type B.

JSON classes:

[KnownType(typeof(B))]
public class A
{
   public string Name { get; set; }
}

public class B : A
{
   public string LastName { get; set; }
}

Converter code:

/// <summary>
    /// Use KnownType Attribute to match a divierd class based on the class given to the serilaizer
    /// Selected class will be the first class to match all properties in the json object.
    /// </summary>
    public  class KnownTypeConverter : JsonConverter
    {
        public override bool CanConvert(Type objectType)
        {
            return System.Attribute.GetCustomAttributes(objectType).Any(v => v is KnownTypeAttribute);
        }

        public override object ReadJson(JsonReader reader, Type objectType, object existingValue, JsonSerializer serializer)
        {
            // Load JObject from stream
            JObject jObject = JObject.Load(reader);

            // Create target object based on JObject
            System.Attribute[] attrs = System.Attribute.GetCustomAttributes(objectType);  // Reflection.

                // Displaying output.
            foreach (System.Attribute attr in attrs)
            {
                if (attr is KnownTypeAttribute)
                {
                    KnownTypeAttribute k = (KnownTypeAttribute) attr;
                    var props = k.Type.GetProperties();
                    bool found = true;
                    foreach (var f in jObject)
                    {
                        if (!props.Any(z => z.Name == f.Key))

                        }
                    }

                    if (found)
                    {
                        var target = Activator.CreateInstance(k.Type);
                        serializer.Populate(jObject.CreateReader(),target);
                        return target;
                    }
                }

How to get the employees with their managers

Perhaps your subquery (SELECT ename FROM EMP WHERE empno = mgr) thinks, give me the employee records that are their own managers! (i.e., where the empno of a row is the same as the mgr of the same row.)

have you considered perhaps rewriting this to use an inner (self) join? (I'm asking, becuase i'm not even sure if the following will work or not.)

SELECT t1.ename, t1.empno, t2.ename as MANAGER, t1.mgr
from emp as t1
inner join emp t2 ON t1.mgr = t2.empno
order by t1.empno;

How to edit the size of the submit button on a form?

}

How to edit HTML input value colour?

You can change the CSS color property using JavaScript in the onclick event handler (in the same way you change the value property):

<input type="text" onclick="this.value=''; this.style.color='#000'" />

Note that it's not the best practice to use inline JavaScript. You'd be better off giving your input an ID, and moving your JavaScript out to a <script> block instead:

document.getElementById("yourInput").onclick = function() {
    this.value = '';
    this.style.color = '#000';
}

What is the difference between buffer and cache memory in Linux?

Cited answer (for reference):

Short answer: Cached is the size of the page cache. Buffers is the size of in-memory block I/O buffers. Cached matters; Buffers is largely irrelevant.

Long answer: Cached is the size of the Linux page cache, minus the memory in the swap cache, which is represented by SwapCached (thus the total page cache size is Cached + SwapCached). Linux performs all file I/O through the page cache. Writes are implemented as simply marking as dirty the corresponding pages in the page cache; the flusher threads then periodically write back to disk any dirty pages. Reads are implemented by returning the data from the page cache; if the data is not yet in the cache, it is first populated. On a modern Linux system, Cached can easily be several gigabytes. It will shrink only in response to memory pressure. The system will purge the page cache along with swapping data out to disk to make available more memory as needed.

Buffers are in-memory block I/O buffers. They are relatively short-lived. Prior to Linux kernel version 2.4, Linux had separate page and buffer caches. Since 2.4, the page and buffer cache are unified and Buffers is raw disk blocks not represented in the page cache—i.e., not file data. The Buffers metric is thus of minimal importance. On most systems, Buffers is often only tens of megabytes.

Order Bars in ggplot2 bar graph

I found it very annoying that ggplot2 doesn't offer an 'automatic' solution for this. That's why I created the bar_chart() function in ggcharts.

ggcharts::bar_chart(theTable, Position)

enter image description here

By default bar_chart() sorts the bars and displays a horizontal plot. To change that set horizontal = FALSE. In addition, bar_chart() removes the unsightly 'gap' between the bars and the axis.

xsl: how to split strings?

I. Plain XSLT 1.0 solution:

This transformation:

<xsl:stylesheet version="1.0"
 xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform">
 <xsl:output omit-xml-declaration="yes" indent="yes"/>

 <xsl:template match="text()" name="split">
  <xsl:param name="pText" select="."/>
  <xsl:if test="string-length($pText)">
   <xsl:if test="not($pText=.)">
    <br />
   </xsl:if>
   <xsl:value-of select=
    "substring-before(concat($pText,';'),';')"/>
   <xsl:call-template name="split">
    <xsl:with-param name="pText" select=
     "substring-after($pText, ';')"/>
   </xsl:call-template>
  </xsl:if>
 </xsl:template>
</xsl:stylesheet>

when applied on this XML document:

<t>123 Elm Street;PO Box 222;c/o James Jones</t>

produces the wanted, corrected result:

123 Elm Street<br />PO Box 222<br />c/o James Jones

II. FXSL 1 (for XSLT 1.0):

Here we just use the FXSL template str-map (and do not have to write recursive template for the 999th time):

<xsl:stylesheet version="1.0"
xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform"
xmlns:f="http://fxsl.sf.net/"
xmlns:testmap="testmap"
exclude-result-prefixes="xsl f testmap"
>
   <xsl:import href="str-dvc-map.xsl"/>

   <testmap:testmap/>

   <xsl:output omit-xml-declaration="yes" indent="yes"/>

   <xsl:template match="/">
     <xsl:variable name="vTestMap" select="document('')/*/testmap:*[1]"/>
     <xsl:call-template name="str-map">
       <xsl:with-param name="pFun" select="$vTestMap"/>
       <xsl:with-param name="pStr" select=
       "'123 Elm Street;PO Box 222;c/o James Jones'"/>
     </xsl:call-template>
   </xsl:template>

    <xsl:template name="replace" mode="f:FXSL"
         match="*[namespace-uri() = 'testmap']">
      <xsl:param name="arg1"/>

      <xsl:choose>
       <xsl:when test="not($arg1=';')">
        <xsl:value-of select="$arg1"/>
       </xsl:when>
       <xsl:otherwise><br /></xsl:otherwise>
      </xsl:choose>
    </xsl:template>
</xsl:stylesheet>

when this transformation is applied on any XML document (not used), the same, wanted correct result is produced:

123 Elm Street<br/>PO Box 222<br/>c/o James Jones

III. Using XSLT 2.0

<xsl:stylesheet version="2.0"
 xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform">
 <xsl:output omit-xml-declaration="yes" indent="yes"/>

 <xsl:template match="text()">
  <xsl:for-each select="tokenize(.,';')">
   <xsl:sequence select="."/>
   <xsl:if test="not(position() eq last())"><br /></xsl:if>
  </xsl:for-each>
 </xsl:template>

php mail setup in xampp

XAMPP should have come with a "fake" sendmail program. In that case, you can use sendmail as well:

[mail function]
; For Win32 only.
; http://php.net/smtp
;SMTP = localhost
; http://php.net/smtp-port
;smtp_port = 25

; For Win32 only.
; http://php.net/sendmail-from
;sendmail_from = [email protected]

; For Unix only. You may supply arguments as well (default: "sendmail -t -i").
; http://php.net/sendmail-path
sendmail_path = "C:/xampp/sendmail/sendmail.exe -t -i"

Sendmail should have a sendmail.ini with it; it should be configured as so:

# Example for a user configuration file

# Set default values for all following accounts.
defaults
logfile "C:\xampp\sendmail\sendmail.log"

# Mercury
#account Mercury
#host localhost
#from postmaster@localhost
#auth off

# A freemail service example
account ACCOUNTNAME_HERE
tls on
tls_certcheck off
host smtp.gmail.com
from EMAIL_HERE
auth on
user EMAIL_HERE
password PASSWORD_HERE

# Set a default account
account default : ACCOUNTNAME_HERE

Of course, replace ACCOUNTNAME_HERE with an arbitrary account name, replace EMAIL_HERE with a valid email (such as a Gmail or Hotmail), and replace PASSWORD_HERE with the password to your email. Now, you should be able to send mail. Remember to restart Apache (from the control panel or the batch files) to allow the changes to PHP to work.

How to deserialize a JObject to .NET object

According to this post, it's much better now:

// pick out one album
JObject jalbum = albums[0] as JObject;

// Copy to a static Album instance
Album album = jalbum.ToObject<Album>();

How to multiply values using SQL

Here it is:

select player_name, player_salary, (player_salary * 1.1) as player_newsalary
from player
order by player_name, player_salary, player_newsalary desc

You don't need to "group by" if there is only one instance of a player in the table.

How to search a list of tuples in Python

Hmm... well, the simple way that comes to mind is to convert it to a dict

d = dict(thelist)

and access d[53].

EDIT: Oops, misread your question the first time. It sounds like you actually want to get the index where a given number is stored. In that case, try

dict((t[0], i) for i, t in enumerate(thelist))

instead of a plain old dict conversion. Then d[53] would be 2.

jquery data selector

At the moment I'm selecting like this:

$('a[data-attribute=true]')

Which seems to work just fine, but it would be nice if jQuery was able to select by that attribute without the 'data-' prefix.

I haven't tested this with data added to elements via jQuery dynamically, so that could be the downfall of this method.

Run a command over SSH with JSch

I struggled for half a day to get JSCH to work without using the System.in as the input stream to no avail. I tried Ganymed http://www.ganymed.ethz.ch/ssh2/ and had it going in 5 minutes. All the examples seem to be aimed at one usage of the app and none of the examples showed what i needed. Ganymed's example Basic.java Baaaboof Has everything i need.

How to configure Eclipse build path to use Maven dependencies?

the difference is NVARCHAR(36), your input parameter is too small!

Get nodes where child node contains an attribute

I would think your own suggestion is correct, however the xml is not quite valid. If you are running the //book[title[@lang='it']] on <root>[Your"XML"Here]</root> then the free online xPath testers such as one here will find the expected result.

What is the behavior difference between return-path, reply-to and from?

Let's start with a simple example. Let's say you have an email list, that is going to send out the following RFC2822 content.

From: <[email protected]>
To: <[email protected]>
Subject: Super simple email
Reply-To: <[email protected]>

This is a very simple body.

Now, let's say you are going to send it from a mailing list, that implements VERP (or some other bounce tracking mechanism that uses a different return-path). Lets say it will have a return-path of [email protected]. The SMTP session might look like:

{S}220 workstation1 Microsoft ESMTP MAIL Service
{C}HELO workstation1
{S}250 workstation1 Hello [127.0.0.1]
{C}MAIL FROM:<[email protected]>
{S}250 2.1.0 [email protected] OK
{C}RCPT TO:<[email protected]>
{S}250 2.1.5 [email protected]
{C}DATA
{S}354 Start mail input; end with <CRLF>.<CRLF>
{C}From: <[email protected]>
To: <[email protected]>
Subject: Super simple email
Reply-To: <[email protected]>

This is a very simple body.
.

{S}250 Queued mail for delivery
{C}QUIT
{S}221 Service closing transmission channel

Where {C} and {S} represent Client and Server commands, respectively.

The recipient's mail would look like:

Return-Path: [email protected]
From: <[email protected]>
To: <[email protected]>
Subject: Super simple email
Reply-To: <[email protected]>

This is a very simple body.

Now, let's describe the different "FROM"s.

  1. The return path (sometimes called the reverse path, envelope sender, or envelope from — all of these terms can be used interchangeably) is the value used in the SMTP session in the MAIL FROM command. As you can see, this does not need to be the same value that is found in the message headers. Only the recipient's mail server is supposed to add a Return-Path header to the top of the email. This records the actual Return-Path sender during the SMTP session. If a Return-Path header already exists in the message, then that header is removed and replaced by the recipient's mail server.

All bounces that occur during the SMTP session should go back to the Return-Path address. Some servers may accept all email, and then queue it locally, until it has a free thread to deliver it to the recipient's mailbox. If the recipient doesn't exist, it should bounce it back to the recorded Return-Path value.

Note, not all mail servers obey this rule; Some mail servers will bounce it back to the FROM address.

  1. The FROM address is the value found in the FROM header. This is supposed to be who the message is FROM. This is what you see as the "FROM" in most mail clients. If an email does not have a Reply-To header, then all human (mail client) replies should go back to the FROM address.

  2. The Reply-To header is added by the sender (or the sender's software). It is where all human replies should be addressed too. Basically, when the user clicks "reply", the Reply-To value should be the value used as the recipient of the newly composed email. The Reply-To value should not be used by any server. It is meant for client-side (MUA) use only.

However, as you can tell, not all mail servers obey the RFC standards or recommendations.

Hopefully this should help clear things up. However, if I missed anything, let me know, and I'll try to answer.

Parse JSON in C#

Your data class doesn't match the JSON object. Use this instead:

[DataContract]
public class GoogleSearchResults
{
    [DataMember]
    public ResponseData responseData { get; set; }
}

[DataContract]
public class ResponseData
{
    [DataMember]
    public IEnumerable<Results> results { get; set; }
}

[DataContract]
public class Results
{
    [DataMember]
    public string unescapedUrl { get; set; }

    [DataMember]
    public string url { get; set; }

    [DataMember]
    public string visibleUrl { get; set; }

    [DataMember]
    public string cacheUrl { get; set; }

    [DataMember]
    public string title { get; set; }

    [DataMember]
    public string titleNoFormatting { get; set; }

    [DataMember]
    public string content { get; set; }
}

Also, you don't have to instantiate the class to get its type for deserialization:

public static T Deserialise<T>(string json)
{
    using (var ms = new MemoryStream(Encoding.Unicode.GetBytes(json)))
    {
        var serialiser = new DataContractJsonSerializer(typeof(T));
        return (T)serialiser.ReadObject(ms);
    }
}

Best way to represent a fraction in Java?

Class Fraction:

     public class Fraction {
        private int num;            // numerator
        private int denom;          // denominator
        // default constructor
        public Fraction() {}
        // constructor
        public Fraction( int a, int b ) {
            num = a;
            if ( b == 0 )
                throw new ZeroDenomException();
            else
                denom = b;
        }
        // return string representation of ComplexNumber
        @Override
        public String toString() {
            return "( " + num + " / " + denom + " )";
        }
        // the addition operation
        public Fraction add(Fraction x){
            return new Fraction(
                    x.num * denom + x.denom * num, x.denom * denom );
        }
        // the multiplication operation
        public Fraction multiply(Fraction x) {
            return new Fraction(x.num * num, x.denom * denom);
        }
}

The main program:

    static void main(String[] args){
    Scanner input = new Scanner(System.in);
    System.out.println("Enter numerator and denominator of first fraction");
    int num1 =input.nextInt();
    int denom1 =input.nextInt();
    Fraction x = new Fraction(num1, denom1);
    System.out.println("Enter numerator and denominator of second fraction");
    int num2 =input.nextInt();
    int denom2 =input.nextInt();
    Fraction y = new Fraction(num2, denom2);
    Fraction result = new Fraction();
    System.out.println("Enter required operation: A (Add), M (Multiply)");
    char op = input.next().charAt(0);
    if(op == 'A') {
        result = x.add(y);
        System.out.println(x + " + " + y + " = " + result);
    }

How to convert a string of bytes into an int?

In python 3 you can easily convert a byte string into a list of integers (0..255) by

>>> list(b'y\xcc\xa6\xbb')
[121, 204, 166, 187]

How to get relative path from absolute path

As Alex Brault points out, especially on Windows, the absolute path (with drive letter and all) is unambiguous and often better.

Shouldn't your OpenFileDialog use a regular tree-browser structure?

To get some nomenclature in place, the RefDir is the directory relative to which you want to specify the path; the AbsName is the absolute path name that you want to map; and the RelPath is the resulting relative path.

Take the first of these options that matches:

  • If you have different drive letters, there is no relative path from RefDir to AbsName; you must use the AbsName.
  • If the AbsName is in a sub-directory of RefDir or is a file within RefDir then simply remove the RefDir from the start of AbsName to create RelPath; optionally prepend "./" (or ".\" since you are on Windows).
  • Find the longest common prefix of RefDir and AbsName (where D:\Abc\Def and D:\Abc\Default share D:\Abc as the longest common prefix; it has to be a mapping of name components, not a simple longest common substring); call it LCP. Remove LCP from AbsName and RefDir. For each path component left in (RefDir - LCP), prepend "..\" to (AbsName - LCP) to yield RelPath.

To illustrate the last rule (which is, of course, by far the most complex), start with:

RefDir = D:\Abc\Def\Ghi
AbsName = D:\Abc\Default\Karma\Crucible

Then

LCP = D:\Abc
(RefDir - LCP) = Def\Ghi
(Absname - LCP) = Default\Karma\Crucible
RelPath = ..\..\Default\Karma\Crucible

While I was typing, DavidK produced an answer which suggests that you are not the first to need this feature and that there is a standard function to do this job. Use it. But there's no harm in being able to think your way through from first principles, either.

Except that Unix systems do not support drive letters (so everything is always located under the same root directory, and the first bullet therefore is irrelevant), the same technique could be used on Unix.

Find position of a node using xpath

I do a lot of Novell Identity Manager stuff, and XPATH in that context looks a little different.

Assume the value you are looking for is in a string variable, called TARGET, then the XPATH would be:

count(attr/value[.='$TARGET']/preceding-sibling::*)+1

Additionally it was pointed out that to save a few characters of space, the following would work as well:

count(attr/value[.='$TARGET']/preceding::*) + 1

I also posted a prettier version of this at Novell's Cool Solutions: Using XPATH to get the position node

Why is my JavaScript function sometimes "not defined"?

Use an anonymous function to protect your local symbol table. Something like:

(function() {
    function copyArray(pa) {
        // Details
    }

    Function.prototype.bind = function ( po ) {
        __args = copyArray( arguments );
    }
})();

This will create a closure that includes your function in the local symbol table, and you won't have to depend on it being available in the global namespace when you call the function.

What are some resources for getting started in operating system development?

There are a lot of links after this brief overview of what is involved in writing an OS for the X86 platform.

The link that appears to be most promising (www.nondot.org/sabre/os/articles) is no longer available, so you'll need to poke through the Archive.org version to read it.

At the end of the day the bootloader takes the machine code of the kernel, puts it in memory, and jumps to it. You can put any machine code in the kernel that you want, but most C programs expect an OS so you'll need to tell your compiler that it won't have all that, or the bootloader has to create some of it.

The kernel then does all the heavy lifting, and I suspect it's the example kernel you want. But there's a long way to go between having a kernel that says, "Hello world" to having a kernel that loads a command interpretor, provides disk services, and loads and manages programs.

You might want to consider subscribing to ACM to get access to their older literature - there are lots of articles in the late 80's and early 90's in early computing magazines about how to create alternative OSs. There are likely books that are out of print from this era as well. You might be able to get the same information for free by looking up the indexes of those magazines (which are available on that site - click "index" near the magazine name) and then asking around for people with a copy.

Lastly, I know that usenet is dead (for so sayeth the prophets of internet doom) but you'll find that many of the craggy old experts from that era still live there. You should search google groups (they have dejanews's old repository) and I expect you'll find many people asking the same questions a decade or 1.5 ago that you're asking now. You may even run across Linus Torvalds' many queries for help as he was developing linux originally. If searches don't bring anything up, ask in the appropriate newsgroup (probably starts with comp.arch, but search for ones with OS in the name).

Accessing Google Spreadsheets with C# using Google Data API

I wrote a simple wrapper around Google's .Net client library, it exposes a simpler database-like interface, with strongly-typed record types. Here's some sample code:

public class Entity {
    public int IntProp { get; set; }
    public string StringProp { get; set; }
}

var e1 = new Entity { IntProp = 2 };
var e2 = new Entity { StringProp = "hello" };
var client = new DatabaseClient("[email protected]", "password");
const string dbName = "IntegrationTests";
Console.WriteLine("Opening or creating database");
db = client.GetDatabase(dbName) ?? client.CreateDatabase(dbName); // databases are spreadsheets
const string tableName = "IntegrationTests";
Console.WriteLine("Opening or creating table");
table = db.GetTable<Entity>(tableName) ?? db.CreateTable<Entity>(tableName); // tables are worksheets
table.DeleteAll();
table.Add(e1);
table.Add(e2);
var r1 = table.Get(1);

There's also a LINQ provider that translates to google's structured query operators:

var q = from r in table.AsQueryable()
        where r.IntProp > -1000 && r.StringProp == "hello"
        orderby r.IntProp
        select r;

range() for floats

As kichik wrote, this shouldn't be too complicated. However this code:

def frange(x, y, jump):
  while x < y:
    yield x
    x += jump

Is inappropriate because of the cumulative effect of errors when working with floats. That is why you receive something like:

>>>list(frange(0, 100, 0.1))[-1]
99.9999999999986

While the expected behavior would be:

>>>list(frange(0, 100, 0.1))[-1]
99.9

Solution 1

The cumulative error can simply be reduced by using an index variable. Here's the example:

from math import ceil

    def frange2(start, stop, step):
        n_items = int(ceil((stop - start) / step))
        return (start + i*step for i in range(n_items))

This example works as expected.

Solution 2

No nested functions. Only a while and a counter variable:

def frange3(start, stop, step):
    res, n = start, 1

    while res < stop:
        yield res
        res = start + n * step
        n += 1

This function will work well too, except for the cases when you want the reversed range. E.g:

>>>list(frange3(1, 0, -.1))
[]

Solution 1 in this case will work as expected. To make this function work in such situations, you must apply a hack, similar to the following:

from operator import gt, lt

def frange3(start, stop, step):
    res, n = start, 0.
    predicate = lt if start < stop else gt
    while predicate(res, stop):
        yield res
        res = start + n * step
        n += 1

With this hack you can use these functions with negative steps:

>>>list(frange3(1, 0, -.1))
[1, 0.9, 0.8, 0.7, 0.6, 0.5, 0.3999999999999999, 0.29999999999999993, 0.19999999999999996, 0.09999999999999998]

Solution 3

You can go even further with plain standard library and compose a range function for the most of numeric types:

from itertools import count
from itertools import takewhile

def any_range(start, stop, step):
    start = type(start + step)(start)
    return takewhile(lambda n: n < stop, count(start, step))

This generator is adapted from the Fluent Python book (Chapter 14. Iterables, Iterators and generators). It will not work with decreasing ranges. You must apply a hack, like in the previous solution.

You can use this generator as follows, for example:

>>>list(any_range(Fraction(2, 1), Fraction(100, 1), Fraction(1, 3)))[-1]
299/3
>>>list(any_range(Decimal('2.'), Decimal('4.'), Decimal('.3')))
[Decimal('2'), Decimal('2.3'), Decimal('2.6'), Decimal('2.9'), Decimal('3.2'), Decimal('3.5'), Decimal('3.8')]

And of course you can use it with float and int as well.

Be careful

If you want to use these functions with negative steps, you should add a check for the step sign, e.g.:

no_proceed = (start < stop and step < 0) or (start > stop and step > 0)
if no_proceed: raise StopIteration

The best option here is to raise StopIteration, if you want to mimic the range function itself.

Mimic range

If you would like to mimic the range function interface, you can provide some argument checks:

def any_range2(*args):
    if len(args) == 1:
        start, stop, step = 0, args[0], 1.
    elif len(args) == 2:
        start, stop, step = args[0], args[1], 1.
    elif len(args) == 3:
        start, stop, step = args
    else:
        raise TypeError('any_range2() requires 1-3 numeric arguments')

    # here you can check for isinstance numbers.Real or use more specific ABC or whatever ...

    start = type(start + step)(start)
    return takewhile(lambda n: n < stop, count(start, step))

I think, you've got the point. You can go with any of these functions (except the very first one) and all you need for them is python standard library.

Add a space (" ") after an element using :after

I needed this instead of using padding because I used inline-block containers to display a series of individual events in a workflow timeline. The last event in the timeline needed no arrow after it.

Ended up with something like:

.transaction-tile:after {
  content: "\f105";
}

.transaction-tile:last-child:after {
  content: "\00a0";
}

Used fontawesome for the gt (chevron) character. For whatever reason "content: none;" was producing alignment issues on the last tile.

Converting Java file:// URL to File(...) path, platform independent, including UNC paths

I hope (not exactly verified) that newer java brought nio package and Path. Hopefully it have it fixed: String s="C:\\some\\ile.txt"; System.out.println(new File(s).toPath().toUri());

Leader Not Available Kafka in Console Producer

For all those struggling with the Kafka ssl setup and seeing this LEADER_NOT_AVAILABLE error. One of the reasons that might be broken is the keystore and truststore. In the keystore you need to have private key of the server + signed server certificate. In the client truststore, you need to have intermedidate CA certificate so that client can authenticate the kafka server. If you will use ssl for interbroker communication, you need this truststore also set in the server.properties of the brokers so they can authenticate each other.

That last piece I was mistakenly missing and caused me a lot of painful hours finding out what this LEADER_NOT_AVAILABLE error might mean. Hopefully this can help somebody.

Jquery to get the id of selected value from dropdown

Try this

on change event

$("#jodSel").on('change',function(){
    var getValue=$(this).val();
    alert(getValue);
  });

Note: In dropdownlist if you want to set id,text relation from your database then, set id as value in option tag, not by adding extra id attribute inside option its not standard paractise though i did both in my answer but i prefer example 1

HTML Markup

Example 1:
    <select id="example1">

Display filename before matching line

If you have the options -H and -n available (man grep is your friend):

$ cat file
foo
bar
foobar

$ grep -H foo file
file:foo
file:foobar

$ grep -Hn foo file
file:1:foo
file:3:foobar

Options:

-H, --with-filename

Print the file name for each match. This is the default when there is more than one file to search.

-n, --line-number

Prefix each line of output with the 1-based line number within its input file. (-n is specified by POSIX.)

-H is a GNU extension, but -n is specified by POSIX

Initialize value of 'var' in C# to null

The var keyword in C#'s main benefit is to enhance readability, not functionality. Technically, the var keywords allows for some other unlocks (e.g. use of anonymous objects), but that seems to be outside the scope of this question. Every variable declared with the var keyword has a type. For instance, you'll find that the following code outputs "String".

var myString = "";
Console.Write(myString.GetType().Name);

Furthermore, the code above is equivalent to:

String myString = "";
Console.Write(myString.GetType().Name);

The var keyword is simply C#'s way of saying "I can figure out the type for myString from the context, so don't worry about specifying the type."

var myVariable = (MyType)null or MyType myVariable = null should work because you are giving the C# compiler context to figure out what type myVariable should will be.

Print in one line dynamically

For those struggling as I did, I came up with the following that appears to work in both python 3.7.4 and 3.5.2.

I expanded the range from 100 to 1,000,000 because it runs very fast and you may not see the output. This is because one side effect of setting end='\r' is that the final loop iteration clears all of the output. A longer number was needed to demonstrate that it works. This result may not be desirable in all cases, but was fine in mine, and OP didn't specify one way or another. You could potentially circumvent this with an if statement that evaluates the length of the array being iterated over, etc. The key to get it working in my case was to couple the brackets "{}" with .format(). Otherwise, it didn't work.

Below should work as-is:

#!/usr/bin/env python3

for item in range(1,1000000):
    print("{}".format(item), end='\r', flush=True)

How to simulate a mouse click using JavaScript?

(Modified version to make it work without prototype.js)

function simulate(element, eventName)
{
    var options = extend(defaultOptions, arguments[2] || {});
    var oEvent, eventType = null;

    for (var name in eventMatchers)
    {
        if (eventMatchers[name].test(eventName)) { eventType = name; break; }
    }

    if (!eventType)
        throw new SyntaxError('Only HTMLEvents and MouseEvents interfaces are supported');

    if (document.createEvent)
    {
        oEvent = document.createEvent(eventType);
        if (eventType == 'HTMLEvents')
        {
            oEvent.initEvent(eventName, options.bubbles, options.cancelable);
        }
        else
        {
            oEvent.initMouseEvent(eventName, options.bubbles, options.cancelable, document.defaultView,
            options.button, options.pointerX, options.pointerY, options.pointerX, options.pointerY,
            options.ctrlKey, options.altKey, options.shiftKey, options.metaKey, options.button, element);
        }
        element.dispatchEvent(oEvent);
    }
    else
    {
        options.clientX = options.pointerX;
        options.clientY = options.pointerY;
        var evt = document.createEventObject();
        oEvent = extend(evt, options);
        element.fireEvent('on' + eventName, oEvent);
    }
    return element;
}

function extend(destination, source) {
    for (var property in source)
      destination[property] = source[property];
    return destination;
}

var eventMatchers = {
    'HTMLEvents': /^(?:load|unload|abort|error|select|change|submit|reset|focus|blur|resize|scroll)$/,
    'MouseEvents': /^(?:click|dblclick|mouse(?:down|up|over|move|out))$/
}
var defaultOptions = {
    pointerX: 0,
    pointerY: 0,
    button: 0,
    ctrlKey: false,
    altKey: false,
    shiftKey: false,
    metaKey: false,
    bubbles: true,
    cancelable: true
}

You can use it like this:

simulate(document.getElementById("btn"), "click");

Note that as a third parameter you can pass in 'options'. The options you don't specify are taken from the defaultOptions (see bottom of the script). So if you for example want to specify mouse coordinates you can do something like:

simulate(document.getElementById("btn"), "click", { pointerX: 123, pointerY: 321 })

You can use a similar approach to override other default options.

Credits should go to kangax. Here's the original source (prototype.js specific).

Can I set the height of a div based on a percentage-based width?

<div><p>some unnecessary content</p></div>

div{
    border: 1px solid red;
    width: 40%;
    padding: 40%;
    box-sizing: border-box;
    position: relative;
}
p{
    position: absolute;
    top: 0;
    left: 0;
}

For this to work i think you need to define the padding to ex. top? like this:

<div><p>some unnecessary content</p></div>

div{
    border: 1px solid red;
    width: 40%;
    padding-top: 40%;
    box-sizing: border-box;
    position: relative;
}
p{
    position: absolute;
    top: 0;
    left: 0;
}

anyways, thats how i got it to work, since with just padding all arround it would not be a square.

Does VBScript have a substring() function?

As Tmdean correctly pointed out you can use the Mid() function. The MSDN Library also has a great reference section on VBScript which you can find here:

PHP: maximum execution time when importing .SQL data file

You're trying to import a huge dataset via a web interface.

By default PHP scripts run in the context of a web server have a maximum execution time limit because you don't want a single errant PHP script tying up the entire server and causing a denial of service.

For that reason your import is failing. PHPMyAdmin is a web application and is hitting the limit imposed by PHP.

You could try raising the limit but that limit exists for a good reason so that's not advisable. Running a script that is going to take a very long time to execute in a web server is a very bad idea.

PHPMyAdmin isn't really intended for heavy duty jobs like this, it's meant for day to day housekeeping tasks and troubleshooting.

Your best option is to use the proper tools for the job, such as the mysql commandline tools. Assuming your file is an SQL dump then you can try running the following from the commandline:

mysql -u(your user name here) -p(your password here) -h(your sql server name here) (db name here) < /path/to/your/sql/dump.sql

Or if you aren't comfortable with commandline tools then something like SQLYog (for Windows), Sequel Pro (for Mac), etc may be more suitable for running an import job

Convert time in HH:MM:SS format to seconds only?

Simple

function timeToSeconds($time)

     }
     return $timeExploded[0] * 3600 + $timeExploded[1] * 60;
}

Easiest way to mask characters in HTML(5) text input

A little late, but a useful plugin that will actually use a mask to give a bit more restriction on user input.

How to send a PUT/DELETE request in jQuery?

You should be able to use jQuery.ajax :

Load a remote page using an HTTP request.

And you can specify which method should be used, with the type option :

The type of request to make ("POST" or "GET"), default is "GET".
Note: Other HTTP request methods, such as PUT and DELETE, can also be used here, but they are not supported by all browsers.

Add Bootstrap Glyphicon to Input Box

Tested with Bootstrap 4.

Take a form-control, and add is-valid to its class. Notice how the control turns green, but more importantly, notice the checkmark icon on the right of the control? This is what we want!

Overlapping elements in CSS

You can try using the transform: translate property by passing the appropriate values inside the parenthesis using the inspect element in Google chrome.

You have to set translate property in such way that both the <div> overlap each other then You can use JavaScript to show and hide both the <div> according to your requirements

Getting the base url of the website and globally passing it to twig in Symfony 2

Instead of passing variable to template globally, you can define a base template and render the 'global part' in it. The base template can be inherited.

Example of rendering template From the symfony Documentation:

<div id="sidebar">
  {% render "AcmeArticleBundle:Article:recentArticles" with {'max': 3} %}

Convert HTML string to image

Thanks all for your responses. I used HtmlRenderer external dll (library) to achieve the same and found below code for the same.

Here is the code for this

   PointF point = new PointF(0, 0);
   SizeF maxSize = new System.Drawing.SizeF(500, 500);
   HtmlRenderer.HtmlRender.Render(Graphics.FromImage(m_Bitmap),
                                           "<html><body><p>This is some html code</p>"
                                           + "<p>This is another html line</p></body>",
                                            point, maxSize);

   m_Bitmap.Save(@"C:\Test.png", ImageFormat.Png);

Removing specific rows from a dataframe

This boils down to two distinct steps:

  1. Figure out when your condition is true, and hence compute a vector of booleans, or, as I prefer, their indices by wrapping it into which()
  2. Create an updated data.frame by excluding the indices from the previous step.

Here is an example:

R> set.seed(42)
R> DF <- data.frame(sub=rep(1:4, each=4), day=sample(1:4, 16, replace=TRUE))
R> DF
   sub day
1    1   4
2    1   4
3    1   2
4    1   4
5    2   3
6    2   3
7    2   3
8    2   1
9    3   3
10   3   3
11   3   2
12   3   3
13   4   4
14   4   2
15   4   2
16   4   4
R> ind <- which(with( DF, sub==2 & day==3 ))
R> ind
[1] 5 6 7
R> DF <- DF[ -ind, ]
R> table(DF)
   day
sub 1 2 3 4
  1 0 1 0 3
  2 1 0 0 0
  3 0 1 3 0
  4 0 2 0 2
R>

And we see that sub==2 has only one entry remaining with day==1.

Edit The compound condition can be done with an 'or' as follows:

ind <- which(with( DF, (sub==1 & day==2) | (sub=3 & day=4) ))

and here is a new full example

R> set.seed(1)
R> DF <- data.frame(sub=rep(1:4, each=5), day=sample(1:4, 20, replace=TRUE))
R> table(DF)
   day
sub 1 2 3 4
  1 1 2 1 1
  2 1 0 2 2
  3 2 1 1 1
  4 0 2 1 2
R> ind <- which(with( DF, (sub==1 & day==2) | (sub==3 & day==4) ))
R> ind
[1]  1  2 15
R> DF <- DF[-ind, ]
R> table(DF)
   day
sub 1 2 3 4
  1 1 0 1 1
  2 1 0 2 2
  3 2 1 1 0
  4 0 2 1 2

Removing elements from an array in C

You don't really want to be reallocing memory every time you remove something. If you know the rough size of your deck then choose an appropriate size for your array and keep a pointer to the current end of the list. This is a stack.

If you don't know the size of your deck, and think it could get really big as well as keeps changing size, then you will have to do something a little more complex and implement a linked-list.

In C, you have two simple ways to declare an array.

  1. On the stack, as a static array

    int myArray[16]; // Static array of 16 integers

  2. On the heap, as a dynamically allocated array

    // Dynamically allocated array of 16 integers
    int* myArray = calloc(16, sizeof(int));

Standard C does not allow arrays of either of these types to be resized. You can either create a new array of a specific size, then copy the contents of the old array to the new one, or you can follow one of the suggestions above for a different abstract data type (ie: linked list, stack, queue, etc).

HTML/CSS Making a textbox with text that is grayed out, and disappears when I click to enter info, how?

With HTML5, you can do this natively with: <input name="first_name" placeholder="First Name">

This is not supported with all browsers though (IE)

This may work:

<input type="first_name" value="First Name" onfocus="this.value==this.defaultValue?this.value='':null">

Otherwise, if you are using jQuery, you can use .focus and .css to change the color.

Difference between fprintf, printf and sprintf?

In C, a "stream" is an abstraction; from the program's perspective it is simply a producer (input stream) or consumer (output stream) of bytes. It can correspond to a file on disk, to a pipe, to your terminal, or to some other device such as a printer or tty. The FILE type contains information about the stream. Normally, you don't mess with a FILE object's contents directly, you just pass a pointer to it to the various I/O routines.

There are three standard streams: stdin is a pointer to the standard input stream, stdout is a pointer to the standard output stream, and stderr is a pointer to the standard error output stream. In an interactive session, the three usually refer to your console, although you can redirect them to point to other files or devices:

$ myprog < inputfile.dat > output.txt 2> errors.txt

In this example, stdin now points to inputfile.dat, stdout points to output.txt, and stderr points to errors.txt.

fprintf writes formatted text to the output stream you specify.

printf is equivalent to writing fprintf(stdout, ...) and writes formatted text to wherever the standard output stream is currently pointing.

sprintf writes formatted text to an array of char, as opposed to a stream.

Can you put two conditions in an xslt test attribute?

It does have to be wrapped in an <xsl:choose> since it's a when. And lowercase the "and".

<xsl:choose>
   <xsl:when test="4 &lt; 5 and 1 &lt; 2" >
   <!-- do something -->
   </xsl:when>
   <xsl:otherwise>
   <!-- do something else -->
   </xsl:otherwise>

xsd:boolean element type accept "true" but not "True". How can I make it accept it?

If you're on Linux, or have cygwin available on Windows, you can run the input XML through a simple sed script that will replace <Active>True</Active> with <Active>true</Active>, like so:

cat <your XML file> | sed 'sX<Active>True</Active>X<Active>true</Active>X' | xmllint --schema -

If you're not, you can still use a non-validating xslt pocessor (xalan, saxon etc.) to run a simple xslt transformation on the input, and only then pipe it to xmllint.

What the xsl should contain something like below, for the example you listed above (the xslt processor should be 2.0 capable):

<?xml version="1.0"?>
<xsl:stylesheet xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform" version="2.0">
    <xsl:output method="xml" indent="yes"/>
    <xsl:template match="/">
    <xsl:for-each select="XML">
        <xsl:for-each select="Active">
            <xsl:value-of select=" replace(current(), 'True','true')"/>
        </xsl:for-each>
    </xsl:for-each>
    </xsl:template>
</xsl:stylesheet>

MySQL - how to front pad zip code with "0"?

Store your zipcodes as CHAR(5) instead of a numeric type, or have your application pad it with zeroes when you load it from the DB. A way to do it with PHP using sprintf():

echo sprintf("%05d", 205); // prints 00205
echo sprintf("%05d", 1492); // prints 01492

Or you could have MySQL pad it for you with LPAD():

SELECT LPAD(zip, 5, '0') as zipcode FROM table;

Here's a way to update and pad all rows:

ALTER TABLE `table` CHANGE `zip` `zip` CHAR(5); #changes type
UPDATE table SET `zip`=LPAD(`zip`, 5, '0'); #pads everything

How to make fixed header table inside scrollable div?

I needed the same and this solution worked the most simple and straightforward way:

http://www.farinspace.com/jquery-scrollable-table-plugin/

I just give an id to the table I want to scroll and put one line in Javascript. That's it!

By the way, first I also thought I want to use a scrollable div, but it is not necessary at all. You can use a div and put it into it, but this solution does just what we need: scrolls the table.

Build Eclipse Java Project from Command Line

The normal apporoach works the other way around: You create your build based upon maven or ant and then use integrations for your IDE of choice so that you are independent from it, which is esp. important when you try to bring new team members up to speed or use a contious integration server for automated builds. I recommend to use maven and let it do the heavy lifting for you. Create a pom file and generate the eclipse project via mvn eclipse:eclipse. HTH

How to force a web browser NOT to cache images

When uploading an image, its filename is not kept in the database. It is renamed as Image.jpg (to simply things out when using it).

Change this, and you've fixed your problem. I use timestamps, as with the solutions proposed above: Image-<timestamp>.jpg

Presumably, whatever problems you're avoiding by keeping the same filename for the image can be overcome, but you don't say what they are.

Reading local text file into a JavaScript array

Using Node.js

sync mode:

var fs = require("fs");
var text = fs.readFileSync("./mytext.txt");
var textByLine = text.split("\n")

async mode:

var fs = require("fs");
fs.readFile("./mytext.txt", function(text){
    var textByLine = text.split("\n")
});

UPDATE

As of at least Node 6, readFileSync returns a Buffer, so it must first be converted to a string in order for split to work:

var text = fs.readFileSync("./mytext.txt").toString('utf-8');

Or

var text = fs.readFileSync("./mytext.txt", "utf-8");

Django gives Bad Request (400) when DEBUG = False

I had the same problem and none of the answers resolved my problem, for resolving the situation like this it's better to enable logging by adding the following config to settings.py temporary

LOGGING = { 'version': 1, 'disable_existing_loggers': False, 'handlers': { 'file': { 'level': 'DEBUG', 'class': 'logging.FileHandler', 'filename': '/tmp/debug.log', }, }, 'loggers': { 'django': { 'handlers': ['file'], 'level': 'DEBUG', 'propagate': True, }, }, }

and try to tail -f /tmp/debug.log. and when you see your issue you can handle it much easier than blind debugging.

My issue was about to

Invalid HTTP_HOST header: 'pt_web:8000'. The domain name provided is not valid according to RFC 1034/1035.

and resolve it by adding proxy_set_header Host $host; to Nginx config file and enabling port forwarding by USE_X_FORWARDED_PORT = True in the settings.py ( it's because in my case I've listened to request in Nginx on port 8080 and pass it to guni on port 8000

Ajax success event not working

I had this problem using an ajax function to recover the user password from Magento. The success event was not being fired, then I realized there were two errors:

  1. The result was not being returned in JSON format
  2. I was trying to convert an array to JSON format, but this array had non-utf characters

So every time I tried to use json_eoncde() to encode the returning array, the function was not working because one of its indexes had non-utf characters, most of them accentuation in brazilian portuguese words.

It looks pretty nifty and dwr is fairly easy to use in general so this will be pretty good as well.

System.currentTimeMillis vs System.nanoTime

Update by Arkadiy: I've observed more correct behavior of System.currentTimeMillis() on Windows 7 in Oracle Java 8. The time was returned with 1 millisecond precision. The source code in OpenJDK has not changed, so I do not know what causes the better behavior.

David Holmes of Sun posted a blog article a couple years ago that has a very detailed look at the Java timing APIs (in particular System.currentTimeMillis() and System.nanoTime()), when you would want to use which, and how they work internally.

Inside the Hotspot VM: Clocks, Timers and Scheduling Events - Part I - Windows

One very interesting aspect of the timer used by Java on Windows for APIs that have a timed wait parameter is that the resolution of the timer can change depending on what other API calls may have been made - system wide (not just in the particular process). He shows an example where using Thread.sleep() will cause this resolution change.

Insert array into MySQL database with PHP

You can not insert an array directly to MySQL as MySQL doesn't understand PHP data types. MySQL only understands SQL. So to insert an array into a MySQL database you have to convert it to a SQL statement. This can be done manually or by a library. The output should be an INSERT statement.

Here is a standard MySQL insert statement.

INSERT INTO TABLE1(COLUMN1, COLUMN2, ....) VALUES (VALUE1, VALUE2..)

If you have a table with name fbdata with the columns which are presented in the keys of your array you can insert with this small snippet. Here is how your array is converted to this statement.

$columns = implode(", ",array_keys($insData));
$escaped_values = array_map('mysql_real_escape_string', array_values($insData));
$values  = implode(", ", $escaped_values);
$sql = "INSERT INTO `fbdata`($columns) VALUES ($values)";

Can I call methods in constructor in Java?

The constructor is called only once, so you can safely do what you want, however the disadvantage of calling methods from within the constructor, rather than directly, is that you don't get direct feedback if the method fails. This gets more difficult the more methods you call.

One solution is to provide methods that you can call to query the 'health' of the object once it's been constructed. For example the method isConfigOK() can be used to see if the config read operation was OK.

Another solution is to throw exceptions in the constructor upon failure, but it really depends on how 'fatal' these failures are.

class A
{
    Map <String,String> config = null;
    public A()
    {
        readConfig();
    }

    protected boolean readConfig()
    {
        ...
    }

    public boolean isConfigOK()
    {
        // Check config here
        return true;
    }
};

How can I execute Python scripts using Anaconda's version of Python?

I like to run a "bare-bones" version of Python 2 to verify scripts that I create for other people without an advanced python setup. But Anaconda and Python 3 have a lot of nice features. To enjoy both things on the same computer I do this on my Windows computer which allows me to easily switch.

C# switch statement limitations - why?

By the way, VB, having the same underlying architecture, allows much more flexible Select Case statements (the above code would work in VB) and still produces efficient code where this is possible so the argument by techical constraint has to be considered carefully.

Is it possible to set UIView border properties from interface builder?

Rich86Man's answer is correct, but you can use categories to proxy properties such as layer.borderColor. (From the ConventionalC CocoaPod)

CALayer+XibConfiguration.h:

#import <QuartzCore/QuartzCore.h>
#import <UIKit/UIKit.h>

@interface CALayer(XibConfiguration)

// This assigns a CGColor to borderColor.
@property(nonatomic, assign) UIColor* borderUIColor;

@end

CALayer+XibConfiguration.m:

#import "CALayer+XibConfiguration.h"

@implementation CALayer(XibConfiguration)

-(void)setBorderUIColor:(UIColor*)color
{
    self.borderColor = color.CGColor;
}

-(UIColor*)borderUIColor
{
    return [UIColor colorWithCGColor:self.borderColor];
}

@end

Interface Builder

layer.borderUIColor

The result will be apparent during runtime, not in Xcode.

Edit: You also need to set layer.borderWidth to at least 1 to see the border with the chosen color.

In Swift 2.0:

extension CALayer {
    var borderUIColor: UIColor {
        set {
            self.borderColor = newValue.CGColor
        }

        get {
            return UIColor(CGColor: self.borderColor!)
        }
    }
}

In Swift 3.0:

extension CALayer {
    var borderUIColor: UIColor {
        set {
            self.borderColor = newValue.cgColor
        }

        get {
            return UIColor(cgColor: self.borderColor!)
        }
    }
}

How to use shared memory with Linux in C

Here's a mmap example:

 * pvtmMmapAlloc - creates a memory mapped file area.
 * The return value is a page-aligned memory value, or NULL if there is a failure.
 * Here's the list of arguments:
 * @mmapFileName - the name of the memory mapped file
 * @size - the size of the memory mapped file (should be a multiple of the system page for best performance)
 * @create - determines whether or not the area should be created.

How to use onBlur event on Angular2?

You can also use (focusout) event:

Use (eventName) for while binding event to DOM, basically () is used for event binding. Also you can use ngModel to get two way binding for your model. With the help of ngModel you can manipulate model variable value inside your component.

Do this in HTML file

<input type="text" [(ngModel)]="model" (focusout)="someMethodWithFocusOutEvent($event)">

And in your (component) .ts file

export class AppComponent {
 model: any;
 constructor(){ }
 someMethodWithFocusOutEvent(){
   console.log('Your method called');
   // Do something here
 }
}

CSS body background image fixed to full screen even when zooming in/out

You can do quite a lot with plain css...the css property background-size can be set to a number of things as well as just cover as Ranjith pointed out.

The background-size: cover setting scales the image to cover the entire screen but may mean that some of the image is off screen if the aspect ratio of the screen and image are different.

A good alternative is background-size: contain which resizes the background image to fit the smaller of width and height, ensuring that the whole image is visible but may lead to letterboxing if the aspect ratios are different.

For example:

body {
      background: url(/images/bkgd.png) no-repeat rgb(30,30,30) fixed center center;
      background-size: contain;
     }

The other options that I find less useful are: background-size: length <widthpx> <heightpx> which sets the absolute size of the background image. background-size: percentage <width> <height> background image is a percentage of the window size. (see w3schools.com's page)

Chrome: console.log, console.debug are not working

As of July 2020 the Chrome UI has changed once again and the logging level dropdown doesn't seem to do anything now.

Instead, there's a new pane to the left of the main console pane, which may have got unintentionally set to one of the restrictive logging levels:

enter image description here

Select the top category (messages) to reveal all the logging:

enter image description here

EDIT: EVEN THEN Chrome seems to add things to the Filter box, which again loses some logging, so you must CLEAR THE FILTER BOX TOO!

(Filter box is at the top of both my pics above, under "Network conditions"; you can see that it has some contents about "urlwebpack" which I didn't put there!)

Convert MFC CString to integer

you can also use good old sscanf.

CString s;
int i;
int j = _stscanf(s, _T("%d"), &i);
if (j != 1)
{
   // tranfer didn't work
}

what is the difference between uint16_t and unsigned short int incase of 64 bit processor?

uint16_t is guaranteed to be a unsigned integer that is 16 bits large

unsigned short int is guaranteed to be a unsigned short integer, where short integer is defined by the compiler (and potentially compiler flags) you are currently using. For most compilers for x86 hardware a short integer is 16 bits large.

Also note that per the ANSI C standard only the minimum size of 16 bits is defined, the maximum size is up to the developer of the compiler

Minimum Type Limits

Any compiler conforming to the Standard must also respect the following limits with respect to the range of values any particular type may accept. Note that these are lower limits: an implementation is free to exceed any or all of these. Note also that the minimum range for a char is dependent on whether or not a char is considered to be signed or unsigned.

Type Minimum Range

signed char     -127 to +127
unsigned char      0 to 255
short int     -32767 to +32767
unsigned short int 0 to 65535

Passing arguments to angularjs filters

You can pass multiple arguments to angular filter !

Defining my angular app and and an app level variable -

var app = angular.module('filterApp',[]);
app.value('test_obj', {'TEST' : 'test be check se'});

Your Filter will be like :-

app.filter('testFilter', [ 'test_obj', function(test_obj) {
    function test_filter_function(key, dynamic_data) {
      if(dynamic_data){
        var temp = test_obj[key];
        for(var property in dynamic_data){
            temp = temp.replace(property, dynamic_data[property]);
        }
        return temp;
      }
      else{
        return test_obj[key] || key;
      }

    }
    test_filter_function.$stateful = true;
    return test_filter_function;
  }]);

And from HTML you will send data like :-

<span ng-bind="'TEST' | testFilter: { 'be': val, 'se': value2 }"></span>

Here I am sending a JSON object to the filter. You can also send any kind of data like string or number.

also you can pass dynamic number of arguments to filter , in that case you have to use arguments to get those arguments.

For a working demo go here - passing multiple arguments to angular filter

How to use QTimer

  1. It's good practice to give a parent to your QTimer to use Qt's memory management system.

  2. update() is a QWidget function - is that what you are trying to call or not? http://qt-project.org/doc/qt-4.8/qwidget.html#update.

  3. If number 2 does not apply, make sure that the function you are trying to trigger is declared as a slot in the header.

  4. Finally if none of these are your issue, it would be helpful to know if you are getting any run-time connect errors.

How to deny access to a file in .htaccess

I don't believe the currently accepted answer is correct. For example, I have the following .htaccess file in the root of a virtual server (apache 2.4):

<Files "reminder.php">
require all denied
require host localhost
require ip 127.0.0.1
require ip xxx.yyy.zzz.aaa
</Files>

This prevents external access to reminder.php which is in a subdirectory. I have a similar .htaccess file on my Apache 2.2 server with the same effect:

<Files "reminder.php">
        Order Deny,Allow
        Deny from all
        Allow from localhost
        Allow from 127.0.0.1
     Allow from xxx.yyy.zzz.aaa
</Files>

I don't know for sure but I suspect it's the attempt to define the subdirectory specifically in the .htaccess file, viz <Files ./inscription/log.txt> which is causing it to fail. It would be simpler to put the .htaccess file in the same directory as log.txt i.e. in the inscription directory and it will work there.

onclick event pass <li> id or value

Try like this...

<script>
function getPaging(str) {
  $("#loading-content").load("dataSearch.php?"+str, hideLoader);
}
</script>

<li onclick="getPaging(this.id)" id="1">1</li>
<li onclick="getPaging(this.id)" id="2">2</li>

or unobtrusively

$(function() {
  $("li").on("click",function() {
    showLoader();
    $("#loading-content").load("dataSearch.php?"+this.id, hideLoader);
  });
});

using just

<li id="1">1</li>
<li id="2">2</li>

How does "make" app know default target to build if no target is specified?

By default, it begins by processing the first target that does not begin with a . aka the default goal; to do that, it may have to process other targets - specifically, ones the first target depends on.

The GNU Make Manual covers all this stuff, and is a surprisingly easy and informative read.

How can I restart a Java application?

System.err.println("Someone is Restarting me...");
setVisible(false);
try {
    Thread.sleep(600);
} catch (InterruptedException e1) {
    e1.printStackTrace();
}
setVisible(true);

I guess you don't really want to stop the application, but to "Restart" it. For that, you could use this and add your "Reset" before the sleep and after the invisible window.

How to randomize two ArrayLists in the same fashion?

You can create an array containing the numbers 0 to 5 and shuffle those. Then use the result as a mapping of "oldIndex -> newIndex" and apply this mapping to both your original arrays.

The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it

Try to open Services Window, by writing services.msc into Start->Run and hit Enter.

When window appears, then find SQL Browser service, right click and choose Properties, and then in dropdown list choose Automatic, or Manual, whatever you want, and click OK. Eventually, if not started immediately, you can again press right click on this service and click Start.

Circle-Rectangle collision detection (intersection)

your sphere and rect intersect IIF
the distance between the circle-center and one vertex of your rect is smaller than the radius of your sphere
OR
the distance between the circle-center and one edge of your rect is smaller than the radius of your sphere ([point-line distance ])
OR
the circle center is inside the rect

point-point distance:

P1 = [x1,y1]
P2 = [x2,y2]
Distance = sqrt(abs(x1 - x2)+abs(y1-y2))

point-line distance:

L1 = [x1,y1],L2 = [x2,y2] (two points of your line, ie the vertex points)
P1 = [px,py] some point

Distance d =  abs( (x2-x1)(y1-py)-(x1-px)(y2-y1) ) / Distance(L1,L2)

circle center inside rect:
take an seperating axis aproach: if there exists a projection onto a line that seperates the rectangle from the point, they do not intersect

you project the point on lines parallel to the sides of your rect and can then easily determine if they intersect. if they intersect not on all 4 projections, they (the point and the rectangle) can not intersect.

you just need the inner-product ( x= [x1,x2] , y = [y1,y2] , x*y = x1*y1 + x2*y2 )

your test would look like that:

//rectangle edges: TL (top left), TR (top right), BL (bottom left), BR (bottom right)
//point to test: POI

seperated = false
for egde in { {TL,TR}, {BL,BR}, {TL,BL},{TR-BR} }:  // the edges
    D = edge[0] - edge[1]
    innerProd =  D * POI
    Interval_min = min(D*edge[0],D*edge[1])
    Interval_max = max(D*edge[0],D*edge[1])
    if not (  Interval_min ≤ innerProd ≤  Interval_max )
           seperated = true
           break  // end for loop
    end if
end for
if (seperated is true)
      return "no intersection"
else
      return "intersection"
end if

this does not assume an axis-aligned rectangle and is easily extendable for testing intersections between convex sets.

Which websocket library to use with Node.js?

Getting the ball rolling with this community wiki answer. Feel free to edit me with your improvements.

  • ws WebSocket server and client for node.js. One of the fastest libraries if not the fastest one.

  • websocket-node WebSocket server and client for node.js

  • websocket-driver-node WebSocket server and client protocol parser node.js - used in faye-websocket-node

  • faye-websocket-node WebSocket server and client for node.js - used in faye and sockjs

  • socket.io WebSocket server and client for node.js + client for browsers + (v0 has newest to oldest fallbacks, v1 of Socket.io uses engine.io) + channels - used in stack.io. Client library tries to reconnect upon disconnection.

  • sockjs WebSocket server and client for node.js and others + client for browsers + newest to oldest fallbacks

  • faye WebSocket server and client for node.js and others + client for browsers + fallbacks + support for other server-side languages

  • deepstream.io clusterable realtime server that handles WebSockets & TCP connections and provides data-sync, pub/sub and request/response

  • socketcluster WebSocket server cluster which makes use of all CPU cores on your machine. For example, if you were to use an xlarge Amazon EC2 instance with 32 cores, you would be able to handle almost 32 times the traffic on a single instance.

  • primus Provides a common API for most of the libraries above for easy switching + stability improvements for all of them.

When to use:

  • use the basic WebSocket servers when you want to use the native WebSocket implementations on the clientside, beware of the browser incompatabilities

  • use the fallback libraries when you care about browser fallbacks

  • use the full featured libraries when you care about channels

  • use primus when you have no idea about what to use, are not in the mood for rewriting your application when you need to switch frameworks because of changing project requirements or need additional connection stability.

Where to test:

Firecamp is a GUI testing environment for SocketIO, WS and all major real-time technology. Debug the real-time events while you're developing it.

Efficient thresholding filter of an array with numpy

b = a[a>threshold] this should do

I tested as follows:

import numpy as np, datetime
# array of zeros and ones interleaved
lrg = np.arange(2).reshape((2,-1)).repeat(1000000,-1).flatten()

t0 = datetime.datetime.now()
flt = lrg[lrg==0]
print datetime.datetime.now() - t0

t0 = datetime.datetime.now()
flt = np.array(filter(lambda x:x==0, lrg))
print datetime.datetime.now() - t0

Java Desktop application: SWT vs. Swing

SWT was created as a response to the sluggishness of Swing around the turn of the century. Now that the differences in performance are becoming negligable, I think Swing is a better option for your standard applications. SWT/Eclipse has a nice framework which helps with a lot of boiler plate code.

Android Webview - Webpage should fit the device screen

This seems like an XML problem. Open the XML document containing your Web-View. Delete the padding code at the top.

Then in the layout , add

android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent"

In the Web-View, add

android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent"

This makes the Web-View fit the device screen.

Javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException: javax.net.ssl.SSLProtocolException: SSL handshake aborted: Failure in SSL library, usually a protocol error

My Answer is close to the above answers but you need to write the class exactly without changing anything.

public class TLSSocketFactory extends SSLSocketFactory {

private SSLSocketFactory delegate;

public TLSSocketFactory() throws KeyManagementException, NoSuchAlgorithmException {
    SSLContext context = SSLContext.getInstance("TLS");
    context.init(null, null, null);

}

@Override
public String[] getDefaultCipherSuites() {
    return delegate.getDefaultCipherSuites();
}

@Override
public String[] getSupportedCipherSuites() {
    return delegate.getSupportedCipherSuites();

@Override
public Socket createSocket() throws IOException {
    return enableTLSOnSocket(delegate.createSocket());
}

@Override
public Socket createSocket(Socket s, String host, int port, boolean autoClose) throws IOException {

How to see local history changes in Visual Studio Code?

I think there is no out-of-the-box support for that in VS Code.

You can install a plugin to give you similar functionality. Eg.:

https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=micnil.vscode-checkpoints

Or the more famous:

https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=xyz.local-history

Some details may need to be configured: The VS Code search gets confused sometimes because of additional folders created by this type of plugins. You can configure it to ignore such folders or change their locations (adding such folders to your .gitignore file also solves this problem).

'nuget' is not recognized but other nuget commands working

I got around this by finding the nuget.exe and moving to an easy to type path (c:\nuget\nuget) and then calling the nuget with this path. This seems to solve the problem. c:\nuget\nuget at the package manager console works as expected. I tried to find the path that the console was using and changing the environment path but was never able to get it to work in that way.

Javascript to Select Multiple options

This type of thing should be done server-side, so as to limit the amount of resources used on the client for such trivial tasks. That being said, if you were to do it on the front-end, I would encourage you to consider using something like underscore.js to keep the code clean and concise:

var values = ["Red", "Green"],
    colors = document.getElementById("colors");

_.each(colors.options, function (option) {
    option.selected = ~_.indexOf(values, option.text);
});

If you're using jQuery, it could be even more terse:

var values = ["Red", "Green"];

$("#colors option").prop("selected", function () {
    return ~$.inArray(this.text, values);
});

If you were to do this without a tool like underscore.js or jQuery, you would have a bit more to write, and may find it to be a bit more complicated:

var color, i, j,
    values = ["Red", "Green"],
    options = document.getElementById("colors").options;

for ( i = 0; i < values.length; i++ ) {
    for ( j = 0, color = values[i]; j < options.length; j++ ) {
        options[j].selected = options[j].selected || color === options[j].text;
    }
}

How do I disable a Button in Flutter?

I like to use flutter_mobx for this and work on the state.

Next I use an observer:

Container(child: Observer(builder: (_) {
  var method;
  if (!controller.isDisabledButton) method = controller.methodController;
  return RaiseButton(child: Text('Test') onPressed: method);
}));

On the Controller:

@observable
bool isDisabledButton = true;

Then inside the control you can manipulate this variable as you want.

Does java.util.List.isEmpty() check if the list itself is null?

I would recommend using Apache Commons Collections

http://commons.apache.org/proper/commons-collections/javadocs/api-release/org/apache/commons/collections4/CollectionUtils.html#isEmpty(java.util.Collection)

which implements it quite ok and well documented:

/**

 * <p>
 * Null returns true.
 *
 * @param coll the collection to check, may be null
 * @return true if empty or null
 * @since Commons Collections 3.2

How do I get ASP.NET Web API to return JSON instead of XML using Chrome?

Here is a solution similar to jayson.centeno's and other answers, but using the built-in extension from System.Net.Http.Formatting.

public static void Register(HttpConfiguration config)
{
    // add support for the 'format' query param
    // cref: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/hongyes/archive/2012/09/02/support-format-in-asp-net-web-api.aspx
    config.Formatters.JsonFormatter.AddQueryStringMapping("$format", "json", "application/json");
    config.Formatters.XmlFormatter.AddQueryStringMapping("$format", "xml", "application/xml");

    // ... additional configuration
 }

The solution was primarily geared toward supporting $format for OData in the early releases of WebApi, but it also applies to the non-OData implementation, and returns the Content-Type: application/json; charset=utf-8 header in the response.

It allows you to tack &$format=json or &$format=xml to the end of your uri when testing with a browser. It does not interfere with other expected behavior when using a non-browser client where you can set your own headers.

Oracle date function for the previous month

The trunc() function truncates a date to the specified time period; so trunc(sysdate,'mm') would return the beginning of the current month. You can then use the add_months() function to get the beginning of the previous month, something like this:

select count(distinct switch_id)
  from [email protected]
 where dealer_name =  'XXXX'
   and creation_date >= add_months(trunc(sysdate,'mm'),-1)
   and creation_date < trunc(sysdate, 'mm')

As a little side not you're not explicitly converting to a date in your original query. Always do this, either using a date literal, e.g. DATE 2012-08-31, or the to_date() function, for example to_date('2012-08-31','YYYY-MM-DD'). If you don't then you are bound to get this wrong at some point.

You would not use sysdate - 15 as this would provide the date 15 days before the current date, which does not seem to be what you are after. It would also include a time component as you are not using trunc().

Just as a little demonstration of what trunc(<date>,'mm') does:

select sysdate

             then 1 end as gt
     , case when trunc(sysdate,'mm') < to_date('20120901 00:00:00','yyyymmdd hh24:mi:ss')
             then 1 end as lt
     , case when trunc(sysdate,'mm') = to_date('20120901 00:00:00','yyyymmdd hh24:mi:ss')
             then 1 end as eq

using favicon with css

If (1) you need a favicon that is different for some parts of the domain, or (2) you want this to work with IE 8 or older (haven't tested any newer version), then you have to edit the html to specify the favicon

Update span tag value with JQuery

Tag ids must be unique. You are updating the span with ID 'ItemCostSpan' of which there are two. Give the span a class and get it using find.

    $("legend").each(function() {
        var SoftwareItem = $(this).text();
        itemCost = GetItemCost(SoftwareItem);
        $("input:checked").each(function() {
            var Component = $(this).next("label").text();
            itemCost += GetItemCost(Component);
        });
        $(this).find(".ItemCostSpan").text("Item Cost = $ " + itemCost);
    });

How to configure a HTTP proxy for svn

In TortoiseSVN you can configure the proxy server under Settings=> Network

Understanding REST: Verbs, error codes, and authentication

I noticed this question a couple of days late, but I feel that I can add some insight. I hope this can be helpful towards your RESTful venture.

Point 1: Am I understanding it right?

You understood right. That is a correct representation of a RESTful architecture. You may find the following matrix from Wikipedia very helpful in defining your nouns and verbs:

When dealing with a Collection URI like: http://example.com/resources/

  • GET: List the members of the collection, complete with their member URIs for further navigation. For example, list all the cars for sale.

  • PUT: Meaning defined as "replace the entire collection with another collection".

  • POST: Create a new entry in the collection where the ID is assigned automatically by the collection. The ID created is usually included as part of the data returned by this operation.

  • DELETE: Meaning defined as "delete the entire collection".

When dealing with a Member URI like: http://example.com/resources/7HOU57Y

  • GET: Retrieve a representation of the addressed member of the collection expressed in an appropriate MIME type.

  • PUT: Update the addressed member of the collection or create it with the specified ID.

  • POST: Treats the addressed member as a collection in its own right and creates a new subordinate of it.

  • DELETE: Delete the addressed member of the collection.

Point 2: I need more verbs

In general, when you think you need more verbs, it may actually mean that your resources need to be re-identified. Remember that in REST you are always acting on a resource, or on a collection of resources. What you choose as the resource is quite important for your API definition.

Activate/Deactivate Login: If you are creating a new session, then you may want to consider "the session" as the resource. To create a new session, use POST to http://example.com/sessions/ with the credentials in the body. To expire it use PUT or a DELETE (maybe depending on whether you intend to keep a session history) to http://example.com/sessions/SESSION_ID.

Change Password: This time the resource is "the user". You would need a PUT to http://example.com/users/USER_ID with the old and new passwords in the body. You are acting on "the user" resource, and a change password is simply an update request. It's quite similar to the UPDATE statement in a relational database.

My instinct would be to do a GET call to a URL like /api/users/1/activate_login

This goes against a very core REST principle: The correct usage of HTTP verbs. Any GET request should never leave any side effect.

For example, a GET request should never create a session on the database, return a cookie with a new Session ID, or leave any residue on the server. The GET verb is like the SELECT statement in a database engine. Remember that the response to any request with the GET verb should be cache-able when requested with the same parameters, just like when you request a static web page.

Point 3: How to return error messages and codes

Consider the 4xx or 5xx HTTP status codes as error categories. You can elaborate the error in the body.

Failed to Connect to Database: / Incorrect Database Login: In general you should use a 500 error for these types of errors. This is a server-side error. The client did nothing wrong. 500 errors are normally considered "retryable". i.e. the client can retry the same exact request, and expect it to succeed once the server's troubles are resolved. Specify the details in the body, so that the client will be able to provide some context to us humans.

The other category of errors would be the 4xx family, which in general indicate that the client did something wrong. In particular, this category of errors normally indicate to the client that there is no need to retry the request as it is, because it will continue to fail permanently. i.e. the client needs to change something before retrying this request. For example, "Resource not found" (HTTP 404) or "Malformed Request" (HTTP 400) errors would fall in this category.

Point 4: How to do authentication

As pointed out in point 1, instead of authenticating a user, you may want to think about creating a session. You will be returned a new "Session ID", along with the appropriate HTTP status code (200: Access Granted or 403: Access Denied).

You will then be asking your RESTful server: "Can you GET me the resource for this Session ID?".

There is no authenticated mode - REST is stateless: You create a session, you ask the server to give you resources using this Session ID as a parameter, and on logout you drop or expire the session.

Google Play Services Library update and missing symbol @integer/google_play_services_version

Off the cuff, it feels like your project is connected to an older version of the Play Services library project. The recommended approach, by Google, is for you to find the library project in the SDK and make a local copy. This does mean, though, that any time you update the Play Services library project through the SDK Manager, you also need to replace your copy with a fresh copy.

git stash changes apply to new branch?

Is the standard procedure not working?

  • make changes
  • git stash save
  • git branch xxx HEAD
  • git checkout xxx
  • git stash pop

Shorter:

  • make changes
  • git stash
  • git checkout -b xxx
  • git stash pop

Add back button to action bar

After setting

 actionBar.setHomeButtonEnabled(true);

You have to configure the parent activity in your AndroidManifest.xml

<activity

How to copy text to the client's clipboard using jQuery?

Copying to the clipboard is a tricky task to do in Javascript in terms of browser compatibility. The best way to do it is using a small flash. It will work on every browser. You can check it in this article.

Here's how to do it for Internet Explorer:

function copy (str)
{
    //for IE ONLY!
    window.clipboardData.setData('Text',str);
}

Cannot find the object because it does not exist or you do not have permissions. Error in SQL Server

It could also be possible that you have created the "Products" in your login schema and you were trying to execute the same in a different schema (probably dbo)

Steps to resolve this issue

1)open the management studio 2) Locate the object in the explorer and identify the schema under which your object is? ( it is the text before your object name ). In the image below its the "dbo" and my object name is action status

highlighted part is schema name

if you see it like "yourcompanydoamin\yourloginid" then you should you can modify the permission on that specific schema and not any other schema.

you may refer to "Ownership and User-Schema Separation in SQL Server"

org.springframework.beans.factory.BeanCreationException: Error creating bean with name 'MyController':

If nothing happens even if you added all the annotation needed, try to add this dependency to your pom.xml, I just faced the same problem and resolved it by adding this one here:

   <artifactId>commons-configuration</artifactId>
   <version>1.9</version>
</dependency>

FragmentActivity to Fragment

first of all;

a Fragment must be inside a FragmentActivity, that's the first rule,

a FragmentActivity is quite similar to a standart Activity that you already know, besides having some Fragment oriented methods

second thing about Fragments, is that there is one important method you MUST call, wich is onCreateView, where you inflate your layout, think of it as the setContentLayout

here is an example:

    @Override public View onCreateView(LayoutInflater inflater, ViewGroup container, Bundle savedInstanceState) {     mView       = inflater.inflate(R.layout.fragment_layout, container, false);       return mView; }

and continu your work based on that mView, so to find a View by id, call mView.findViewById(..);

for the FragmentActivity part:

the xml part "must" have a FrameLayout in order to inflate a fragment in it

        <FrameLayout             android:id="@+id/content_frame"             android:layout_width="match_parent"             android:layout_height="match_parent"  >         </FrameLayout>

as for the inflation part

getSupportFragmentManager().beginTransaction().replace(R.id.content_frame, new YOUR_FRAGMENT, "TAG").commit();

begin with these, as there is tons of other stuf you must know about fragments and fragment activities, start of by reading something about it (like life cycle) at the android developer site

PHP: Best way to check if input is a valid number?

For PHP version 4 or later versions:

<?PHP
$input = 4;
if(is_numeric($input)){ // return **TRUE** if it is numeric
    echo "The input is numeric";
}else{
    echo "The input is not numeric";
}

System.drawing namespace not found under console application

If you are using Visual Studio 2010 or plus then check the target framework that is it .Net Framework 4.0 or .Net Framework 4.0 Client Profile. then change is to .Net Framework 4.0.

You need to add reference this .dll file (System.Drawing.dll) to perform drawing operations.

If it is OK then follow these steps to add reference to System.Drawing.dll

  1. In Solution Explorer, right-click on the project node and click Add Reference.
  2. In the Add Reference dialog box, select the tab indicating the type of component you want to reference.
  3. Select the System.Drawing.dll to reference, then click OK.

Command to escape a string in bash

In Bash:

printf "%q" "hello\world" | someprog

for example:

printf "%q" "hello\world"
hello\\world

This could be used through variables too:

printf -v var "%q\n" "hello\world"
echo "$var"
hello\\world

What is the meaning of "__attribute__((packed, aligned(4))) "

Before answering, I would like to give you some data from Wiki

Data structure alignment is the way data is arranged and accessed in computer memory. It consists of two separate but related issues: data alignment and data structure padding.

When a modern computer reads from or writes to a memory address, it will do this in word sized chunks (e.g. 4 byte chunks on a 32-bit system). Data alignment means putting the data at a memory offset equal to some multiple of the word size, which increases the system's performance due to the way the CPU handles memory.

To align the data, it may be necessary to insert some meaningless bytes between the end of the last data structure and the start of the next, which is data structure padding.

gcc provides functionality to disable structure padding. i.e to avoid these meaningless bytes in some cases. Consider the following structure:

typedef struct
{
     char Data1;
     int Data2;
     unsigned short Data3;
     char Data4;

}sSampleStruct;

sizeof(sSampleStruct) will be 12 rather than 8. Because of structure padding. By default, In X86, structures will be padded to 4-byte alignment:

typedef struct
{
     char Data1;
     //3-Bytes Added here.
     int Data2;
     unsigned short Data3;
     char Data4;
     //1-byte Added here.

}sSampleStruct;

We can use __attribute__((packed, aligned(X))) to insist particular(X) sized padding. X should be powers of two. Refer here

typedef struct
{
     char Data1;
     int Data2;
     unsigned short Data3;
     char Data4;

}__attribute__((packed, aligned(1))) sSampleStruct;

so the above specified gcc attribute does not allow the structure padding. so the size will be 8 bytes.

If you wish to do the same for all the structures, simply we can push the alignment value to stack using #pragma

#pragma pack(push, 1)

//Structure 1
......

//Structure 2
......

#pragma pack(pop)

Convert string to number field

Within Crystal, you can do it by creating a formula that uses the ToNumber function. It might be a good idea to code for the possibility that the field might include non-numeric data - like so:

If NumericText ({field}) then ToNumber ({field}) else 0

Alternatively, you might find it easier to convert the field's datatype within the query used in the report.

How to VueJS router-link active style

Let's make things simple, you don't need to read the document about a "custom tag" (as a 16 years web developer, I have enough this kind of tags, such as in struts, webwork, jsp, rails and now it's vuejs)

just press F12, and you will see the source code like:

    <div>
        <a href="#/topologies" class="luelue">page1</a>
        <a href="#/" aria-current="page" class="router-link-exact-active router-link-active">page2</a>
        <a href="#/databases" class="">page3</a>
    </div>

so just add styles for the .router-link-active or router-link-exact-active

if you want more details, check the router-link api:

https://router.vuejs.org/en/api/#router-link

java.nio.file.Path for a classpath resource

Guessing that what you want to do, is call Files.lines(...) on a resource that comes from the classpath - possibly from within a jar.

Since Oracle convoluted the notion of when a Path is a Path by not making getResource return a usable path if it resides in a jar file, what you need to do is something like this:

Stream<String> stream = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(ClassLoader.getSystemResourceAsStream("/filename.txt"))).lines();

javascript password generator

Here's a free, configurable Javascript class generating random passwords: Javascript Random Password Generator.

Examples

Password consisting of Lower case + upper case + numbers, 8 characters long:

var randomPassword = new RandomPassword();
document.write(randomPassword.create());

Password consisting of Lower case + upper case + numbers, 20 characters long:

var randomPassword = new RandomPassword();
document.write(randomPassword.create(20));

Password consisting of Lower case + upper case + numbers + symbols, 20 characters long:

var randomPassword = new RandomPassword();
document.write(randomPassword.create(20,randomPassword.chrLower+randomPassword.chrUpper+randomPassword.chrNumbers+randomPassword.chrSymbols));

Generating a PNG with matplotlib when DISPLAY is undefined

To make sure your code is portable across Windows, Linux and OSX and for systems with and without displays, I would suggest following snippet:

import matplotlib
import os
# must be before importing matplotlib.pyplot or pylab!
if os.name == 'posix' and "DISPLAY" not in os.environ:
    matplotlib.use('Agg')

# now import other things from matplotlib
import matplotlib.pyplot as plt

How to get the file name from a full path using JavaScript?

function getFileName(path, isExtension){

  var fullFileName, fileNameWithoutExtension;

  // replace \ to /
  while( path.indexOf("\\") !== -1 ){
    path = path.replace("\\", "/");
  }

  fullFileName = path.split("/").pop();
  return (isExtension) ? fullFileName : fullFileName.slice( 0, fullFileName.lastIndexOf(".") );
}

Declare a constant array

As others have mentioned, there is no official Go construct for this. The closest I can imagine would be a function that returns a slice. In this way, you can guarantee that no one will manipulate the elements of the original slice (as it is "hard-coded" into the array).

I have shortened your slice to make it...shorter...:

func GetLetterGoodness() []float32 {
    return []float32 { .0817,.0149,.0278,.0425,.1270,.0223 }
}

Send password when using scp to copy files from one server to another

// copy /tmp/abc.txt to /tmp/abc.txt (target path)

// username and password of 10.1.1.2 is "username" and "password"

// install sshpass (ubuntu)

sudo apt-get install sshpass

JPA getSingleResult() or null

I encapsulated the logic in the following helper method.

public class JpaResultHelper {
    public static Object getSingleResultOrNull(Query query){
        List results = query.getResultList();
        if (results.isEmpty()) return null;
        else if (results.size() == 1) return results.get(0);
        throw new NonUniqueResultException();
    }
}

Check if element at position [x] exists in the list

if(list.ElementAtOrDefault(2) != null)
{
   // logic
}

ElementAtOrDefault() is part of the System.Linq namespace.

Although you have a List, so you can use list.Count > 2.

checking if a number is divisible by 6 PHP

objects.reduce(reducer, [])

What is difference between Errors and Exceptions?

An Error "indicates serious problems that a reasonable application should not try to catch."

while

An Exception "indicates conditions that a reasonable application might want to catch."

Error along with RuntimeException & their subclasses are unchecked exceptions. All other Exception classes are checked exceptions.

Checked exceptions are generally those from which a program can recover & it might be a good idea to recover from such exceptions programmatically. Examples include FileNotFoundException, ParseException, etc. A programmer is expected to check for these exceptions by using the try-catch block or throw it back to the caller

On the other hand we have unchecked exceptions. These are those exceptions that might not happen if everything is in order, but they do occur. Examples include ArrayIndexOutOfBoundException, ClassCastException, etc. Many applications will use try-catch or throws clause for RuntimeExceptions & their subclasses but from the language perspective it is not required to do so. Do note that recovery from a RuntimeException is generally possible but the guys who designed the class/exception deemed it unnecessary for the end programmer to check for such exceptions.

Errors are also unchecked exception & the programmer is not required to do anything with these. In fact it is a bad idea to use a try-catch clause for Errors. Most often, recovery from an Error is not possible & the program should be allowed to terminate. Examples include OutOfMemoryError, StackOverflowError, etc.

Do note that although Errors are unchecked exceptions, we shouldn't try to deal with them, but it is ok to deal with RuntimeExceptions(also unchecked exceptions) in code. Checked exceptions should be handled by the code.

How do I register a .NET DLL file in the GAC?

These responses don't tell you that gacutil resides in C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1* by the way.

I didn't have it in my v2.0 folder. But I tried dragging & dropping the DLL into the C:\WINDOWS\Assembly folder as was suggested here earlier and that was easier and does work, as long as it's a .NET library. I also tried a COM library and this failed with an error that it was expecting an assembly manifest. I know that wasn't the question here, but thought I'd mention that in case someone finds out they can't add it, that that might be why.

Mongoose query where value is not null

Hello guys I am stucked with this. I've a Document Profile who has a reference to User,and I've tried to list the profiles where user ref is not null (because I already filtered by rol during the population), but after googleing a few hours I cannot figure out how to get this. I have this query:

const profiles = await Profile.find({ user: {$exists: true,  $ne: null }})
                            .select("-gallery")
                            .sort( {_id: -1} )
                            .skip( skip )
                            .limit(10)
                            .select(exclude)
                            .populate({
                                path: 'user',
                                match: { role: {$eq: customer}},
                                select: '-password -verified -_id -__v'
                              })

                            .exec();

And I get this result, how can I remove from the results the user:null colletions? . I meant, I dont want to get the profile when user is null (the role does not match).

When should we use mutex and when should we use semaphore

All the above answers are of good quality,but this one's just to memorize.The name Mutex is derived from Mutually Exclusive hence you are motivated to think of a mutex lock as Mutual Exclusion between two as in only one at a time,and if I possessed it you can have it only after I release it.On the other hand such case doesn't exist for Semaphore is just like a traffic signal(which the word Semaphore also means).

SQL Error: ORA-01861: literal does not match format string 01861

If you provide proper date format it should work please recheck once if you have given correct date format in insert values

PHP Sort a multidimensional array by element containing date

You can simply solve this problem using usort() with callback function. No need to write any custom function.

$your_date_field_name = 'datetime';
usort($your_given_array_name, function ($a, $b) use (&$your_date_field_name) {
    return strtotime($a[$your_date_field_name]) - strtotime($b[$your_date_field_name]);
});

Checking the equality of two slices

You should use reflect.DeepEqual()

DeepEqual is a recursive relaxation of Go's == operator.

DeepEqual reports whether x and y are “deeply equal,” defined as follows. Two values of identical type are deeply equal if one of the following cases applies. Values of distinct types are never deeply equal.

Array values are deeply equal when their corresponding elements are deeply equal.

Struct values are deeply equal if their corresponding fields, both exported and unexported, are deeply equal.

Func values are deeply equal if both are nil; otherwise they are not deeply equal.

Interface values are deeply equal if they hold deeply equal concrete values.

Map values are deeply equal if they are the same map object or if they have the same length and their corresponding keys (matched using Go equality) map to deeply equal values.

Pointer values are deeply equal if they are equal using Go's == operator or if they point to deeply equal values.

Slice values are deeply equal when all of the following are true: they are both nil or both non-nil, they have the same length, and either they point to the same initial entry of the same underlying array (that is, &x[0] == &y[0]) or their corresponding elements (up to length) are deeply equal. Note that a non-nil empty slice and a nil slice (for example, []byte{} and []byte(nil)) are not deeply equal.

Other values - numbers, bools, strings, and channels - are deeply equal if they are equal using Go's == operator.

Convert int (number) to string with leading zeros? (4 digits)

Use the ToString() method - standard and custom numeric format strings. Have a look at the MSDN article How to: Pad a Number with Leading Zeros.

Using BeautifulSoup to search HTML for string

text='Python' searches for elements that have the exact text you provided:

import re
from BeautifulSoup import BeautifulSoup

html = """<p>exact text</p>
   <p>almost exact text</p>"""
soup = BeautifulSoup(html)
print soup(text='exact text')
print soup(text=re.compile('exact text'))

Output

[u'exact text']
[u'exact text', u'almost exact text']

"To see if the string 'Python' is located on the page http://python.org":

import urllib2
html = urllib2.urlopen('http://python.org').read()
print 'Python' in html # -> True

If you need to find a position of substring within a string you could do html.find('Python').

Setting a property with an EventTrigger

As much as I love XAML, for this kinds of tasks I switch to code behind. Attached behaviors are a good pattern for this. Keep in mind, Expression Blend 3 provides a standard way to program and use behaviors. There are a few existing ones on the Expression Community Site.

How do I initialize the base (super) class?

Python (until version 3) supports "old-style" and new-style classes. New-style classes are derived from object and are what you are using, and invoke their base class through super(), e.g.

class X(object):
  def __init__(self, x):
    pass

  def doit(self, bar):
    pass

class Y(X):
  def __init__(self):
    super(Y, self).__init__(123)

  def doit(self, foo):
    return super(Y, self).doit(foo)

Because python knows about old- and new-style classes, there are different ways to invoke a base method, which is why you've found multiple ways of doing so.

For completeness sake, old-style classes call base methods explicitly using the base class, i.e.

def doit(self, foo):
  return X.doit(self, foo)

But since you shouldn't be using old-style anymore, I wouldn't care about this too much.

Python 3 only knows about new-style classes (no matter if you derive from object or not).

Get AVG ignoring Null or Zero values

You already attempt to filter out NULL values with NOT NULL. I have changed this to IS NOT NULL in the WHERE clause so it will execute. We can refactor this by removing the ISNULL function in the AVG method. Also, I doubt you'll actually need bigint so we can remove the cast.

SELECT distinct
     AVG(a.SecurityW) as Average1
     ,AVG(a.TransferW) as Average2
     ,AVG(a.StaffW) as Average3
FROM Table1 a,  Table2 b
WHERE a.SecurityW <> 0 AND a.SecurityW IS NOT NULL
AND a.TransferW<> 0 AND a.TransferWIS IS NOT NULL
AND a.StaffW<> 0 AND a.StaffWIS IS NOT NULL
AND MONTH(a.ActualTime) = 4
AND YEAR(a.ActualTime) = 2013

Xcode 4: How do you view the console?

If you just want to have the log output display when you run your app then you can go into XCode4 preferences -> Alerts and click on 'Run starts' on the left hand column.

Then select 'Show Debugger' and when you run the app the NSLog output will be displayed below the editor pane.

This way you don't have to select on the 'up arrow' button at the bottom bar.

How to implement debounce in Vue2?

In case you need to apply a dynamic delay with the lodash's debounce function:

props: {
  delay: String
},

data: () => ({
  search: null
}),

created () {
     this.valueChanged = debounce(function (event) {
      // Here you have access to `this`
      this.makeAPIrequest(event.target.value)
    }.bind(this), this.delay)

},

methods: {
  makeAPIrequest (newVal) {
    // ...
  }
}

And the template:

<template>
  //...

   <input type="text" v-model="search" @input="valueChanged" />

  //...
</template>

NOTE: in the example above I made an example of search input which can call the API with a custom delay which is provided in props

What is TypeScript and why would I use it in place of JavaScript?

TypeScript does something similar to what less or sass does for CSS. They are super sets of it, which means that every JS code you write is valid TypeScript code. Plus you can use the other goodies that it adds to the language, and the transpiled code will be valid js. You can even set the JS version that you want your resulting code on.

Currently TypeScript is a super set of ES2015, so might be a good choice to start learning the new js features and transpile to the needed standard for your project.

Meaning of .Cells(.Rows.Count,"A").End(xlUp).row

It is used to find the how many rows contain data in a worksheet that contains data in the column "A". The full usage is

 lastRowIndex = ws.Cells(ws.Rows.Count, "A").End(xlUp).row

Where ws is a Worksheet object. In the questions example it was implied that the statement was inside a With block

With ws
    lastRowIndex = .Cells(.Rows.Count, "A").End(xlUp).row
End With
  1. ws.Rows.Count returns the total count of rows in the worksheet (1048576 in Excel 2010).
  2. .Cells(.Rows.Count, "A") returns the bottom most cell in column "A" in the worksheet

Then there is the End method. The documentation is ambiguous as to what it does.

Returns a Range object that represents the cell at the end of the region that contains the source range

Particularly it doesn't define what a "region" is. My understanding is a region is a contiguous range of non-empty cells. So the expected usage is to start from a cell in a region and find the last cell in that region in that direction from the original cell. However there are multiple exceptions for when you don't use it like that:

  • If the range is multiple cells, it will use the region of rng.cells(1,1).
  • If the range isn't in a region, or the range is already at the end of the region, then it will travel along the direction until it enters a region and return the first encountered cell in that region.
  • If it encounters the edge of the worksheet it will return the cell on the edge of that worksheet.

So Range.End is not a trivial function.

  1. .row returns the row index of that cell.

Datagridview: How to set a cell in editing mode?

I know this is an old question, but none of the answers worked for me, because I wanted to reliably (always be able to) set the cell into edit mode when possibly executing other events like Toolbar Button clicks, menu selections, etc. that may affect the default focus after those events return. I ended up needing a timer and invoke. The following code is in a new component derived from DataGridView. This code allows me to simply make a call to myXDataGridView.CurrentRow_SelectCellFocus(myDataPropertyName); anytime I want to arbitrarily set a databound cell to edit mode (assuming the cell is Not in ReadOnly mode).

// If the DGV does not have Focus prior to a toolbar button Click,
// then the toolbar button will have focus after its Click event handler returns.
// To reliably set focus to the DGV, we need to time it to happen After event handler procedure returns.

private string m_SelectCellFocus_DataPropertyName = "";
private System.Timers.Timer timer_CellFocus = null;

public void CurrentRow_SelectCellFocus(string sDataPropertyName)
{
  // This procedure is called by a Toolbar Button's Click Event to select and set focus to a Cell in the DGV's Current Row.
  m_SelectCellFocus_DataPropertyName = sDataPropertyName;
  timer_CellFocus = new System.Timers.Timer(10);
  timer_CellFocus.Elapsed += TimerElapsed_CurrentRowSelectCellFocus;
  timer_CellFocus.Start();
}

void TimerElapsed_CurrentRowSelectCellFocus(object sender, System.Timers.ElapsedEventArgs e)
{
  timer_CellFocus.Stop();
  timer_CellFocus.Elapsed -= TimerElapsed_CurrentRowSelectCellFocus;
  timer_CellFocus.Dispose();
  // We have to Invoke the method to avoid raising a threading error
  this.Invoke((MethodInvoker)delegate
  {
    Select_Cell(m_SelectCellFocus_DataPropertyName);
  });
}

private void Select_Cell(string sDataPropertyName)
{
  /// When the Edit Mode is Enabled, set the initial cell to the Description
  foreach (DataGridViewCell dgvc in this.SelectedCells)
  {
    // Clear previously selected cells
    dgvc.Selected = false;
  }
  foreach (DataGridViewCell dgvc in this.CurrentRow.Cells)
  {
    // Select the Cell by its DataPropertyName
    if (dgvc.OwningColumn.DataPropertyName == sDataPropertyName)
    {
      this.CurrentCell = dgvc;
      dgvc.Selected = true;
      this.Focus();
      return;
    }
  }
}

What is the "realm" in basic authentication

A realm can be seen as an area (not a particular page, it could be a group of pages) for which the credentials are used; this is also the string that will be shown when the browser pops up the login window, e.g.

Please enter your username and password for <realm name>:

When the realm changes, the browser may show another popup window if it doesn't have credentials for that particular realm.

Best way to test exceptions with Assert to ensure they will be thrown

Unfortunately MSTest STILL only really has the ExpectedException attribute (just shows how much MS cares about MSTest) which IMO is pretty awful because it breaks the Arrange/Act/Assert pattern and it doesnt allow you to specify exactly which line of code you expect the exception to occur on.

When I'm using (/forced by a client) to use MSTest I always use this helper class:

public static class AssertException
{
    public static void Throws<TException>(Action action) where TException : Exception
    {
        try
        {
            action();
        }
        catch (Exception ex)
        {
            Assert.IsTrue(ex.GetType() == typeof(TException), "Expected exception of type " + typeof(TException) + " but type of " + ex.GetType() + " was thrown instead.");
            return;
        }
        Assert.Fail("Expected exception of type " + typeof(TException) + " but no exception was thrown.");
    }

    public static void Throws<TException>(Action action, string expectedMessage) where TException : Exception
    {
        try
        {
            action();
        }
        catch (Exception ex)
        {
            Assert.IsTrue(ex.GetType() == typeof(TException), "Expected exception of type " + typeof(TException) + " but type of " + ex.GetType() + " was thrown instead.");
            Assert.AreEqual(expectedMessage, ex.Message, "Expected exception with a message of '" + expectedMessage + "' but exception with message of '" + ex.Message + "' was thrown instead.");
            return;
        }
        Assert.Fail("Expected exception of type " + typeof(TException) + " but no exception was thrown.");
    }
}

Example of usage:

AssertException.Throws<ArgumentNullException>(() => classUnderTest.GetCustomer(null));

Laravel is there a way to add values to a request array

In laravel 5.6 we can pass parameters between Middlewares for example:

FirstMiddleware

public function handle($request, Closure $next, ...$params)
{
    //some code
    return $next($request->merge(['key' => 'value']));
}

SecondMiddleware

public function handle($request, Closure $next, ...$params)
{
    //some code
    dd($request->all());

How to use Angular4 to set focus by element id

Here is a directive that you can use in any component:

import { NgZone, Directive, ElementRef, AfterContentInit, Renderer2 } from '@angular/core';

@Directive({
    selector: '[appFocus]'
})
export class FocusDirective implements AfterContentInit {
    constructor(private el: ElementRef, private zone: NgZone, private renderer: Renderer2) {}

    ngAfterContentInit() {
        this.zone.runOutsideAngular(() => setTimeout(() => {
            this.renderer.selectRootElement(this.el.nativeElement).focus();
        }, 0));
    }
}

Use:

<input type="text" appFocus>

How do I set Tomcat Manager Application User Name and Password for NetBeans?

Follow my steps and be happy:

1.- When you are configuring Netbeans for the first time, they will ask you for a "user" and "pass" for the Catalina-Server.

2.- Type whatever "user" and "pass" . This will modify your "tomcat-users.xml" and will add:

What is the most accurate way to retrieve a user's correct IP address in PHP?

I know this is too late to answer. But you may try these options:

Option 1: (Using curl)

$ch = curl_init();

// set URL and other appropriate options
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_URL, "https://ifconfig.me/");
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, 1);

// grab URL and pass it to the browser
$ip = curl_exec($ch);

// close cURL resource, and free up system resources
curl_close($ch);

return $ip;

Option 2: (Works good on mac)

return trim(shell_exec("dig +short myip.opendns.com @resolver1.opendns.com"));

Option 3: (Just used a trick)

return str_replace('Current IP CheckCurrent IP Address: ', '', strip_tags(file_get_contents('http://checkip.dyndns.com')));

how to implement login auth in node.js

To add to Farid's pseudo-answer,

Consider using Passport.js over everyauth.

The answers to this question provide some insight to the differences.

There are plenty of benefits to offloading your user authentication to Google, Facebook or another website. If your application's requirements are such that you could use Passport as your sole authentication provider or alongside traditional login, it can make the experience easier for your users.

What is the best way to convert an array to a hash in Ruby

Update

Ruby 2.1.0 is released today. And I comes with Array#to_h (release notes and ruby-doc), which solves the issue of converting an Array to a Hash.

Ruby docs example:

[[:foo, :bar], [1, 2]].to_h    # => {:foo => :bar, 1 => 2}

Apply a function to every row of a matrix or a data frame

In case you want to apply common functions such as sum or mean, you should use rowSums or rowMeans since they're faster than apply(data, 1, sum) approach. Otherwise, stick with apply(data, 1, fun). You can pass additional arguments after FUN argument (as Dirk already suggested):

set.seed(1)
m <- matrix(round(runif(20, 1, 5)), ncol=4)
diag(m) <- NA
m
     [,1] [,2] [,3] [,4]
[1,]   NA    5    2    3
[2,]    2   NA    2    4
[3,]    3    4   NA    5
[4,]    5    4    3   NA
[5,]    2    1    4    4

Then you can do something like this:

apply(m, 1, quantile, probs=c(.25,.5, .75), na.rm=TRUE)
    [,1] [,2] [,3] [,4] [,5]
25%  2.5    2  3.5  3.5 1.75
50%  3.0    2  4.0  4.0 3.00
75%  4.0    3  4.5  4.5 4.00

Visual Studio: How to break on handled exceptions?

Took me a while to find the new place for expection settings, therefore a new answer.

Since Visual Studio 2015 you control which Exceptions to stop on in the Exception Settings Window (Debug->Windows->Exception Settings). The shortcut is still Ctrl-Alt-E.

The simplest way to handle custom exceptions is selecting "all exceptions not in this list".

Git diff against a stash

One way to do this without moving anything is to take advantage of the fact that patch can read git diff's (unified diffs basically)

git stash show -p | patch -p1 --verbose --dry-run

This will show you a step-by-step preview of what patch would ordinarily do. The added benefit to this is that patch won't prevent itself from writing the patch to the working tree either, if for some reason you just really need git to shut up about commiting-before-modifying, go ahead and remove --dry-run and follow the verbose instructions.

Checkout one file from Subversion

With Subversion 1.5, it becomes possible to check out (all) the files of a directory without checking out any subdirectories (the various --depth flags). Not quite what you asked for, but a form of "less than all."

Where is the documentation for the values() method of Enum?

How can I use an http proxy with node.js http.Client?

I bought private proxy server, after purchase I got:

255.255.255.255 // IP address of proxy server
99999 // port of proxy server
username // authentication username of proxy server
password // authentication password of proxy server

And I wanted to use it. First answer and second answer worked only for http(proxy) -> http(destination), however I wanted http(proxy) -> https(destination).

And for https destination it would be better to use HTTP tunnel directly. I found solution here. Final code:

const http = require('http')
const https = require('https')
const username = 'username'
const password = 'password'
const auth = 'Basic ' + Buffer.from(username + ':' + password).toString('base64')

http.request({
  host: '255.255.255.255', // IP address of proxy server
  port: 99999, // port of proxy server
  method: 'CONNECT',
  path: 'kinopoisk.ru:443', // some destination, add 443 port for https!
  headers: {
    'Proxy-Authorization': auth
  },
}).on('connect', (res, socket) => {
  if (res.statusCode === 200) { // connected to proxy server
    https.get({
      host: 'www.kinopoisk.ru',
      socket: socket, // using a tunnel
      agent: false, // cannot use a default agent
      path: '/your/url' // specify path to get from server
    }, (res) => {
      let chunks = []
      res.on('data', chunk => chunks.push(chunk))
      res.on('end', () => {
        console.log('DONE', Buffer.concat(chunks).toString('utf8'))
      })
    })
  }
}).on('error', (err) => {
  console.error('error', err)
}).end()

Import txt file and having each line as a list

Create a list of lists:

with open("/path/to/file") as file:
    lines = []
    for line in file:
        # The rstrip method gets rid of the "\n" at the end of each line
        lines.append(line.rstrip().split(","))

How to open a new file in vim in a new window

I use this subtle alias:

alias vim='gnome-terminal -- vim'

-x is deprecated now. We need to use -- instead

How to draw a standard normal distribution in R

I am pretty sure this is a duplicate. Anyway, have a look at the following piece of code

x <- seq(5, 15, length=1000)
y <- dnorm(x, mean=10, sd=3)
plot(x, y, type="l", lwd=1)

I'm sure you can work the rest out yourself, for the title you might want to look for something called main= and y-axis labels are also up to you.

If you want to see more of the tails of the distribution, why don't you try playing with the seq(5, 15, ) section? Finally, if you want to know more about what dnorm is doing I suggest you look here

What is a callback in java

In Java, callback methods are mainly used to address the "Observer Pattern", which is closely related to "Asynchronous Programming".

Although callbacks are also used to simulate passing methods as a parameter, like what is done in functional programming languages.

How to stop the Timer in android?

I had a similar problem: every time I push a particular button, I create a new Timer.

my_timer = new Timer("MY_TIMER");
my_timer.schedule(new TimerTask() {
...
}

Exiting from that activity I deleted the timer:

if(my_timer!=null){
my_timer.cancel();
my_timer = null;
}

But it was not enough because the cancel() method only canceled the latest Timer. The older ones were ignored an didn't stop running. The purge() method was not useful for me. I solved the problem just checking the Timer instantiation:

if(my_timer == null){
my_timer = new Timer("MY_TIMER");
my_timer.schedule(new TimerTask() {
...
}
}

How can I print out C++ map values?

If your compiler supports (at least part of) C++11 you could do something like:

for (auto& t : myMap)
    std::cout << t.first << " "
              << t.second.first << " "
              << t.second.second << "\n";

For C++03 I'd use std::copy with an insertion operator instead:

typedef std::pair<string, std::pair<string, string> > T;

std::ostream &operator<<(std::ostream &os, T const &t) {
    return os << t.first << " " << t.second.first << " " << t.second.second;
}

// ...
std:copy(myMap.begin(), myMap.end(), std::ostream_iterator<T>(std::cout, "\n"));

How do I count cells that are between two numbers in Excel?

If you have Excel 2007 or later use COUNTIFS with an "S" on the end, i.e.

=COUNTIFS(B2:B292,">10",B2:B292,"<10000")

You may need to change commas , to semi-colons ;

In earlier versions of excel use SUMPRODUCT like this

=SUMPRODUCT((B2:B292>10)*(B2:B292<10000))

Note: if you want to include exactly 10 change > to >= - similarly with 10000, change < to <=

How to call base.base.method()?

Why not simply cast the child class to a specific parent class and invoke the specific implementation then? This is a special case situation and a special case solution should be used. You will have to use the new keyword in the children methods though.

public class SuperBase
{
    public string Speak() { return "Blah in SuperBase"; }
}

public class Base : SuperBase
{
    public new string Speak() { return "Blah in Base"; }
}

public class Child : Base
{
    public new string Speak() { return "Blah in Child"; }
}

public partial class MainWindow : Window
{
    public MainWindow()
    {
        InitializeComponent();

        Child childObj = new Child();

        Console.WriteLine(childObj.Speak());

        // casting the child to parent first and then calling Speak()
        Console.WriteLine((childObj as Base).Speak());

        Console.WriteLine((childObj as SuperBase).Speak());
    }
}

Team Build Error: The Path ... is already mapped to workspace

Use the command line utility TF - Team Foundation Version Control Tool (tf).

You can get a list of all workspaces by bringing up a Visual Studio Command Prompt then changing to your workspace folder and issuing the following commands:

C:\YourWorkspaceFolder>tf workspaces /owner:*

You should see your problem workspace in the list as well as it's owner.

You can delete the workspace with the following command:

C:\YourWorkspaceFolder>tf workspace /delete /server:BUILDSERVER WORKSPACENAME;OWNERNAME

Scaling an image to fit on canvas

Provide the source image (img) size as the first rectangle:

ctx.drawImage(img, 0, 0, img.width,    img.height,     // source rectangle
                   0, 0, canvas.width, canvas.height); // destination rectangle

The second rectangle will be the destination size (what source rectangle will be scaled to).

How can I get the executing assembly version?

using System.Reflection;
{
    string version = Assembly.GetEntryAssembly().GetName().Version.ToString();
}

Remarks from MSDN http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.reflection.assembly.getentryassembly%28v=vs.110%29.aspx:

The GetEntryAssembly method can return null when a managed assembly has been loaded from an unmanaged application. For example, if an unmanaged application creates an instance of a COM component written in C#, a call to the GetEntryAssembly method from the C# component returns null, because the entry point for the process was unmanaged code rather than a managed assembly.

Printing integer variable and string on same line in SQL

You can't combine a character string and numeric string. You need to convert the number to a string using either CONVERT or CAST.

For example:

print 'There are ' + cast(@Number as varchar) + ' alias combinations did not match a record'

or

print 'There are ' + convert(varchar,@Number) + ' alias combinations did not match a record'

Include another JSP file

At page translation time, the content of the file given in the include directive is ‘pasted’ as it is, in the place where the JSP include directive is used. Then the source JSP page is converted into a java servlet class. The included file can be a static resource or a JSP page. Generally, JSP include directive is used to include header banners and footers.

Syntax for include a jsp file:

<%@ include file="relative url">

Example

<%@include file="page_name.jsp" %>

Fatal error: Class 'ZipArchive' not found in

Htaccess: add/remove trailing slash from URL

To complement Jon Lin's answer, here is a no-trailing-slash technique that also works if the website is located in a directory (like example.org/blog/):

RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} (.+)/$
RewriteRule ^ %1 [R=301,L]

For the sake of completeness, here is an alternative emphasizing that REQUEST_URI starts with a slash (at least in .htaccess files):

RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} /(.*)/$
RewriteRule ^ /%1 [R=301,L] <-- added slash here too, don't forget it

Just don't use %{REQUEST_URI} (.*)/$. Because in the root directory REQUEST_URI equals /, the leading slash, and it would be misinterpreted as a trailing slash.

Renaming columns in Pandas

It is real simple. Just use:

df.columns = ['Name1', 'Name2', 'Name3'...]

And it will assign the column names by the order you put them in.

Generate pdf from HTML in div using Javascript

  • No depenencies, pure JS
  • To add CSS or images - do not use relative URLs, use full URLs http://...domain.../path.css or so. It creates separate HTML document and it has no context of main thing.
  • you can also embed images as base64

This served me for years now:

export default function printDiv({divId, title}) {
  let mywindow = window.open('', 'PRINT', 'height=650,width=900,top=100,left=150');

  mywindow.document.write(`<html><head><title>${title}</title>`);
  mywindow.document.write('</head><body >');
  mywindow.document.write(document.getElementById(divId).innerHTML);
  mywindow.document.write('</body></html>');

  mywindow.document.close(); // necessary for IE >= 10
  mywindow.focus(); // necessary for IE >= 10*/

  mywindow.print();
  mywindow.close();

  return true;
}

How to remove files that are listed in the .gitignore but still on the repository?

An easier way that works regardless of the OS is to do

git rm -r --cached .
git add .
git commit -m "Drop files from .gitignore"

You basically remove and re-add all files, but git add will ignore the ones in .gitignore.

Using the --cached option will keep files in your filesystem, so you won't be removing files from your disk.

Note: Some pointed out in the comments that you will lose the history of all your files. I tested this with git 2.27.0 on MacOS and it is not the case. If you want to check what is happening, check your git diff HEAD~1 before you push your commit.

retrieve links from web page using python and BeautifulSoup

Here's an example using @ars accepted answer and the BeautifulSoup4, requests, and wget modules to handle the downloads.

import requests
import wget
import os

from bs4 import BeautifulSoup, SoupStrainer

url = 'https://archive.ics.uci.edu/ml/machine-learning-databases/eeg-mld/eeg_full/'
file_type = '.tar.gz'

response = requests.get(url)

for link in BeautifulSoup(response.content, 'html.parser', parse_only=SoupStrainer('a')):
    if link.has_attr('href'):
        if file_type in link['href']:
            full_path = url + link['href']
            wget.download(full_path)

Read/write files within a Linux kernel module

You should be aware that you should avoid file I/O from within Linux kernel when possible. The main idea is to go "one level deeper" and call VFS level functions instead of the syscall handler directly:

Includes:

#include <linux/fs.h>
#include <asm/segment.h>
#include <asm/uaccess.h>
#include <linux/buffer_head.h>

Opening a file (similar to open):

struct file *file_open(const char *path, int flags, int rights)
{
    struct file *filp = NULL;
    mm_segment_t oldfs;
    int err = 0;

    oldfs = get_fs();
    set_fs(get_ds());
    filp = filp_open(path, flags, rights);
    set_fs(oldfs);
    if (IS_ERR(filp)) {
        err = PTR_ERR(filp);
        return NULL;
    }
    return filp;
}

Close a file (similar to close):

void file_close(struct file *file)
{
    filp_close(file, NULL);
}

Reading data from a file (similar to pread):

int file_read(struct file *file, unsigned long long offset, unsigned char *data, unsigned int size)
{
    mm_segment_t oldfs;
    int ret;

    oldfs = get_fs();
    set_fs(get_ds());

    ret = vfs_read(file, data, size, &offset);

    set_fs(oldfs);
    return ret;
}

Writing data to a file (similar to pwrite):

int file_write(struct file *file, unsigned long long offset, unsigned char *data, unsigned int size)
{
    mm_segment_t oldfs;
    int ret;

    oldfs = get_fs();
    set_fs(get_ds());

    ret = vfs_write(file, data, size, &offset);

    set_fs(oldfs);
    return ret;
}

Syncing changes a file (similar to fsync):

int file_sync(struct file *file)
{
    vfs_fsync(file, 0);
    return 0;
}

[Edit] Originally, I proposed using file_fsync, which is gone in newer kernel versions. Thanks to the poor guy suggesting the change, but whose change was rejected. The edit was rejected before I could review it.

How to use delimiter for csv in python

CSV Files with Custom Delimiters

By default, a comma is used as a delimiter in a CSV file. However, some CSV files can use delimiters other than a comma. Few popular ones are | and \t.

import csv
data_list = [["SN", "Name", "Contribution"],
             [1, "Linus Torvalds", "Linux Kernel"],
             [2, "Tim Berners-Lee", "World Wide Web"],
             [3, "Guido van Rossum", "Python Programming"]]
with open('innovators.csv', 'w', newline='') as file:
    writer = csv.writer(file, delimiter='|')
    writer.writerows(data_list)

output:

SN|Name|Contribution
1|Linus Torvalds|Linux Kernel
2|Tim Berners-Lee|World Wide Web
3|Guido van Rossum|Python Programming

Write CSV files with quotes

import csv

row_list = [["SN", "Name", "Contribution"],
             [1, "Linus Torvalds", "Linux Kernel"],
             [2, "Tim Berners-Lee", "World Wide Web"],
             [3, "Guido van Rossum", "Python Programming"]]
with open('innovators.csv', 'w', newline='') as file:
    writer = csv.writer(file, quoting=csv.QUOTE_NONNUMERIC, delimiter=';')
    writer.writerows(row_list)

output:

"SN";"Name";"Contribution"
1;"Linus Torvalds";"Linux Kernel"
2;"Tim Berners-Lee";"World Wide Web"
3;"Guido van Rossum";"Python Programming"

As you can see, we have passed csv.QUOTE_NONNUMERIC to the quoting parameter. It is a constant defined by the csv module.

csv.QUOTE_NONNUMERIC specifies the writer object that quotes should be added around the non-numeric entries.

There are 3 other predefined constants you can pass to the quoting parameter:

  • csv.QUOTE_ALL - Specifies the writer object to write CSV file with quotes around all the entries.
  • csv.QUOTE_MINIMAL - Specifies the writer object to only quote those fields which contain special characters (delimiter, quotechar or any characters in lineterminator)
  • csv.QUOTE_NONE - Specifies the writer object that none of the entries should be quoted. It is the default value.
import csv

row_list = [["SN", "Name", "Contribution"],
             [1, "Linus Torvalds", "Linux Kernel"],
             [2, "Tim Berners-Lee", "World Wide Web"],
             [3, "Guido van Rossum", "Python Programming"]]
with open('innovators.csv', 'w', newline='') as file:
    writer = csv.writer(file, quoting=csv.QUOTE_NONNUMERIC,
                        delimiter=';', quotechar='*')
    writer.writerows(row_list)

output:

*SN*;*Name*;*Contribution*
1;*Linus Torvalds*;*Linux Kernel*
2;*Tim Berners-Lee*;*World Wide Web*
3;*Guido van Rossum*;*Python Programming*

Here, we can see that quotechar='*' parameter instructs the writer object to use * as quote for all non-numeric values.

Simple function to sort an array of objects

Array.prototype.sort_by = function(key_func, reverse=false){
    return this.sort( (a, b) => ( key_func(b) - key_func(a) ) * (reverse ? 1 : -1) )
}

Then for example if we have

var arr = [ {id: 0, balls: {red: 8,  blue: 10}},
            {id: 2, balls: {red: 6 , blue: 11}},
            {id: 1, balls: {red: 4 , blue: 15}} ]

arr.sort_by(el => el.id, reverse=true)
/* would result in
[ { id: 2, balls: {red: 6 , blue: 11 }},
  { id: 1, balls: {red: 4 , blue: 15 }},
  { id: 0, balls: {red: 8 , blue: 10 }} ]
*/

or

arr.sort_by(el => el.balls.red + el.balls.blue)
/* would result in
[ { id: 2, balls: {red: 6 , blue: 11 }},    // red + blue= 17
  { id: 0, balls: {red: 8 , blue: 10 }},    // red + blue= 18
  { id: 1, balls: {red: 4 , blue: 15 }} ]   // red + blue= 19
*/

SVN 405 Method Not Allowed

My "disappeared" folder was libraries/fof.

If I deleted it, then ran an update, it wouldn't show up.

cd libaries
svn up

(nothing happens).

But updating with the actual name:

svn update fof

did the trick and it was updated. So I exploded my (manually tar-archived) working copy over it and recommitted. Easiest solution.
