Programs & Examples On #Visualstatemanager

Manages visual states and the logic for transitions between visual states for controls. Also provides the attached property support for VisualStateManager.VisualStateGroups, which is how you define visual states in XAML for a control template.

How do I check if a property exists on a dynamic anonymous type in c#?

This works for anonymous types, ExpandoObject, Nancy.DynamicDictionary or anything else that can be cast to IDictionary<string, object>.

    public static bool PropertyExists(dynamic obj, string name) {
        if (obj == null) return false;
        if (obj is IDictionary<string, object> dict) {
            return dict.ContainsKey(name);
        }
        return obj.GetType().GetProperty(name) != null;
    }

Changing the cursor in WPF sometimes works, sometimes doesn't

Do you need the cursor to be a "wait" cursor only when it's over that particular page/usercontrol? If not, I'd suggest using Mouse.OverrideCursor:

Mouse.OverrideCursor = Cursors.Wait;
try
{
    // do stuff
}
finally
{
    Mouse.OverrideCursor = null;
}

This overrides the cursor for your application rather than just for a part of its UI, so the problem you're describing goes away.

VBA for clear value in specific range of cell and protected cell from being wash away formula

Not sure its faster with VBA - the fastest way to do it in the normal Excel programm would be:

  1. Ctrl-G
  2. A1:X50 Enter
  3. Delete

Unless you have to do this very often, entering and then triggering the VBAcode is more effort.

And in case you only want to delete formulas or values, you can insert Ctrl-G, Alt-S to select Goto Special and here select Formulas or Values.

Difference between using bean id and name in Spring configuration file

Is there difference in defining Id & name in ApplicationContext xml ? No As of 3.1(spring), id is also defined as an xsd:string type. It means whatever characters allowed in defining name are also allowed in Id. This was not possible prior to Spring 3.1.

Why to use name when it is same as Id ? It is useful for some situations, such as allowing each component in an application to refer to a common dependency by using a bean name that is specific to that component itself.

For example, the configuration metadata for subsystem A may refer to a DataSource via the name subsystemA-dataSource. The configuration metadata for subsystem B may refer to a DataSource via the name subsystemB-dataSource. When composing the main application that uses both these subsystems the main application refers to the DataSource via the name myApp-dataSource. To have all three names refer to the same object you add to the MyApp configuration metadata the following

<bean id="myApp-dataSource" name="subsystemA-dataSource,subsystemB-dataSource" ..../>

Alternatively, You can have separate xml configuration files for each sub-system and then you can make use of
alias to define your own names.

<alias name="subsystemA-dataSource" alias="subsystemB-dataSource"/>
<alias name="subsystemA-dataSource" alias="myApp-dataSource" />

Catch Ctrl-C in C

@Peter Varo updated Dirk's answer, but Dirk rejected the change. Here's the new answer by Peter:

Although the above snippet is a correct example, one should use the more modern types and guarantees provided by the later standards if possible. Therefore, here is a safer and modern alternative for those who are seeking for the and conforming implementation:

#include <signal.h>
#include <stdlib.h>
#include <stdio.h>

static volatile sig_atomic_t keep_running = 1;

static void sig_handler(int _)
{
    (void)_;
    keep_running = 0;
}

int main(void)
{
    signal(SIGINT, sig_handler);

    while (keep_running)
        puts("Still running...");

    puts("Stopped by signal `SIGINT'");
    return EXIT_SUCCESS;
}

C11 Standard: 7.14§2 The header <signal.h> declare a type ... sig_atomic_t which is the (possibly volatile-qualified) integer type of an object that can be accessed as an atomic entity, even in the presence of asynchronous interrupts.

Furthermore:

C11 Standard: 7.14.1.1§5 If the signal occurs other than as the result of calling the abort or raise function, the behavior is undefined if the signal handler refers to any object with static or thread storage duration that is not a lock-free atomic object other than by assigning a value to an object declared as volatile sig_atomic_t...

How to spyOn a value property (rather than a method) with Jasmine

Suppose there is a method like this that needs testing The src property of the tiny image needs checking

function reportABCEvent(cat, type, val) {
                var i1 = new Image(1, 1);
                var link = getABC('creosote');
                    link += "&category=" + String(cat);
                    link += "&event_type=" + String(type);
                    link += "&event_value=" + String(val);
                    i1.src = link;
                }

The spyOn() below causes the "new Image" to be fed the fake code from the test the spyOn code returns an object that only has a src property

As the variable "hook" is scoped to be visible in the fake code in the SpyOn and also later after the "reportABCEvent" is called

describe("Alphabetic.ads", function() {
    it("ABC events create an image request", function() {
    var hook={};
    spyOn(window, 'Image').andCallFake( function(x,y) {
          hook={ src: {} }
          return hook;
      }
      );
      reportABCEvent('testa', 'testb', 'testc');
      expect(hook.src).
      toEqual('[zubzub]&arg1=testa&arg2=testb&event_value=testc');
    });

This is for jasmine 1.3 but might work on 2.0 if the "andCallFake" is altered to the 2.0 name

Asynchronous file upload (AJAX file upload) using jsp and javascript

The two common approaches are to submit the form to an invisible iframe, or to use a Flash control such as YUI Uploader. You could also use Java instead of Flash, but this has a narrower install base.

"A namespace cannot directly contain members such as fields or methods"

The snippet you're showing doesn't seem to be directly responsible for the error.

This is how you can CAUSE the error:

namespace MyNameSpace
{
   int i; <-- THIS NEEDS TO BE INSIDE THE CLASS

   class MyClass
   {
      ...
   }
}

If you don't immediately see what is "outside" the class, this may be due to misplaced or extra closing bracket(s) }.

QtCreator: No valid kits found

Though OP is asking about Windows, this error also occurs on Ubuntu Linux and Google lists this result first when you search for the error"QtCreator: No valid kits found".

On Ubuntu this is solved by running:

For Qt5:

For Qt4:

sudo apt-get install qt4-dev-tools libqt4-dev libqt4-core libqt4-gui

Reading rather large json files in Python

The issue here is that JSON, as a format, is generally parsed in full and then handled in-memory, which for such a large amount of data is clearly problematic.

The solution to this is to work with the data as a stream - reading part of the file, working with it, and then repeating.

The best option appears to be using something like ijson - a module that will work with JSON as a stream, rather than as a block file.

Edit: Also worth a look - kashif's comment about json-streamer and Henrik Heino's comment about bigjson.

curl Failed to connect to localhost port 80

Since you have a ::1 localhost line in your hosts file, it would seem that curl is attempting to use IPv6 to contact your local web server.

Since the web server is not listening on IPv6, the connection fails.

You could try to use the --ipv4 option to curl, which should force an IPv4 connection when both are available.

How to keep the local file or the remote file during merge using Git and the command line?

This approach seems more straightforward, avoiding the need to individually select each file:

or

# keep remote files
git pull -Xtheirs
# keep local files
git pull -Xours

SQL query to get most recent row for each instance of a given key

Both of the above answers assume that you only have one row for each user and time_stamp. Depending on the application and the granularity of your time_stamp this may not be a valid assumption. If you need to deal with ties of time_stamp for a given user, you'd need to extend one of the answers given above.

To write this in one query would require another nested sub-query - things will start getting more messy and performance may suffer.

I would have loved to have added this as a comment but I don't yet have 50 reputation so sorry for posting as a new answer!

How do I login and authenticate to Postgresql after a fresh install?

If your database client connects with TCP/IP and you have ident auth configured in your pg_hba.conf check that you have an identd installed and running. This is mandatory even if you have only local clients connecting to "localhost".

Also beware that nowadays the identd may have to be IPv6 enabled for Postgresql to welcome clients which connect to localhost.

Counting repeated elements in an integer array

public class FindRepeatedNumbers
{
 public static void main(String[] args)
    {
     int num[]={1,3,2,4,1,2,4,6,7,5};
           Arrays.sort(num);

  for(int j=1;j<num.length;j++)
      {
       if(num[j]==num[j-1])
    {
            System.out.println(num[j]);

       }
   }

       }
     }

Open directory dialog

As stated in earlier answers, FolderBrowserDialog is the class to use for this. Some people have (justifiable) concerns with the appearance and behaviour of this dialog. The good news is that it was "modernized" in NET Core 3.0, so is now a viable option for those writing either Windows Forms or WPF apps targeting that version or later (you're out of luck if still using NET Framework though).

In .NET Core 3.0, Windows Forms users [sic] a newer COM-based control that was introduced in Windows Vista: FolderBrowserDialog in NET Core 3.0

To reference System.Windows.Forms in a NET Core WPF app, it is necessary to edit the project file and add the following line:

<UseWindowsForms>true</UseWindowsForms>

This can be placed directly after the existing <UseWPF> element.

Then it's just a case of using the dialog:

using System;
using System.Windows.Forms;

...

using var dialog = new FolderBrowserDialog
{
    Description = "Time to select a folder",
    UseDescriptionForTitle = true,
    SelectedPath = Environment.GetFolderPath(Environment.SpecialFolder.DesktopDirectory)
        + Path.DirectorySeparatorChar,
    ShowNewFolderButton = true
};

if (dialog.ShowDialog() == DialogResult.OK)
{
    ...
}

FolderBrowserDialog has a RootFolder property that supposedly "sets the root folder where the browsing starts from" but whatever I set this to it didn't make any difference; SelectedPath seemed to be the better property to use for this purpose, however the trailing backslash is required.

Also, the ShowNewFolderButton property seems to be ignored as well, the button is always shown regardless.

Resize jqGrid when browser is resized?

The main answer worked for me but made the app extremely unresponsive in IE, so I used a timer as suggested. Code looks something like this ($(#contentColumn) is the div that the JQGrid sits in):

  function resizeGrids() {
    var reportObjectsGrid = $("#ReportObjectsGrid");
    reportObjectsGrid.setGridWidth($("#contentColumn").width());
};

var resizeTimer;

$(window).bind('resize', function () {
    clearTimeout(resizeTimer);
    resizeTimer = setTimeout(resizeGrids, 60);
});

Converting ArrayList to Array in java

This is the right answer you want and this solution i have run my self on netbeans

ArrayList a=new ArrayList();
a.add(1);
a.add(3);
a.add(4);
a.add(5);
a.add(8);
a.add(12);

int b[]= new int [6];
        Integer m[] = new Integer[a.size()];//***Very important conversion to array*****
        m=(Integer[]) a.toArray(m);
for(int i=0;i<a.size();i++)
{
    b[i]=m[i];
    System.out.println(b[i]);
}
    System.out.println(a.size());

How to send UTF-8 email?

I'm using rather specified charset (ISO-8859-2) because not every mail system (for example: http://10minutemail.com) can read UTF-8 mails. If you need this:

function utf8_to_latin2($str)
{
    return iconv ( 'utf-8', 'ISO-8859-2' , $str );
}
function my_mail($to,$s,$text,$form, $reply)
    {
        mail($to,utf8_to_latin2($s),utf8_to_latin2($text),
        "From: $form\r\n".
        "Reply-To: $reply\r\n".
        "X-Mailer: PHP/" . phpversion());
    }

I have made another mailer function, because apple device could not read well the previous version.

function utf8mail($to,$s,$body,$from_name="x",$from_a = "[email protected]", $reply="[email protected]")
{
    $s= "=?utf-8?b?".base64_encode($s)."?=";
    $headers = "MIME-Version: 1.0\r\n";
    $headers.= "From: =?utf-8?b?".base64_encode($from_name)."?= <".$from_a.">\r\n";
    $headers.= "Content-Type: text/plain;charset=utf-8\r\n";
    $headers.= "Reply-To: $reply\r\n";
    $headers.= "X-Mailer: PHP/" . phpversion();
    mail($to, $s, $body, $headers);
}

Angular Directive refresh on parameter change

What you're trying to do is to monitor the property of attribute in directive. You can watch the property of attribute changes using $observe() as follows:

angular.module('myApp').directive('conversation', function() {
  return {
    restrict: 'E',
    replace: true,
    compile: function(tElement, attr) {
      attr.$observe('typeId', function(data) {
            console.log("Updated data ", data);
      }, true);

    }
  };
});

Keep in mind that I used the 'compile' function in the directive here because you haven't mentioned if you have any models and whether this is performance sensitive.

If you have models, you need to change the 'compile' function to 'link' or use 'controller' and to monitor the property of a model changes, you should use $watch(), and take of the angular {{}} brackets from the property, example:

<conversation style="height:300px" type="convo" type-id="some_prop"></conversation>

And in the directive:

angular.module('myApp').directive('conversation', function() {
  return {
    scope: {
      typeId: '=',
    },
    link: function(scope, elm, attr) {

      scope.$watch('typeId', function(newValue, oldValue) {
          if (newValue !== oldValue) {
            // You actions here
            console.log("I got the new value! ", newValue);
          }
      }, true);

    }
  };
});

Remove excess whitespace from within a string

$str = "I      am a PHP   Developer";
$str_length = strlen($str);
$str_arr = str_split($str);
for ($i = 0; $i < $str_length; $i++) {
   if (isset($str_arr[$i + 1])  && $str_arr[$i] == ' ' && $str_arr[$i] == $str_arr[$i + 1]) {
       unset($str_arr[$i]);
   }
   else {
     continue;
   }
}
echo implode("", $str_arr);

Why do we need virtual functions in C++?

Why do we need virtual functions?

Virtual functions avoid unnecessary typecasting problem, and some of us can debate that why do we need virtual functions when we can use derived class pointer to call the function specific in derived class!the answer is - it nullifies the whole idea of inheritance in large system development, where having single pointer base class object is much desired.

Let's compare below two simple programs to understand the importance of virtual functions:

Program without virtual functions:

#include <iostream>
using namespace std;

class father
{
    public: void get_age() {cout << "Fathers age is 50 years" << endl;}
};

class son: public father
{
    public : void get_age() { cout << "son`s age is 26 years" << endl;}
};

int main(){
    father *p_father = new father;
    son *p_son = new son;

    p_father->get_age();
    p_father = p_son;
    p_father->get_age();
    p_son->get_age();
    return 0;
}

OUTPUT:

Fathers age is 50 years
Fathers age is 50 years
son`s age is 26 years

Program with virtual function:

#include <iostream>
using namespace std;

class father
{
    public:
        virtual void get_age() {cout << "Fathers age is 50 years" << endl;}
};

class son: public father
{
    public : void get_age() { cout << "son`s age is 26 years" << endl;}
};

int main(){
    father *p_father = new father;
    son *p_son = new son;

    p_father->get_age();
    p_father = p_son;
    p_father->get_age();
    p_son->get_age();
    return 0;
}

OUTPUT:

Fathers age is 50 years
son`s age is 26 years
son`s age is 26 years

By closely analyzing both the outputs one can understand the importance of virtual functions.

How to access the services from RESTful API in my angularjs page?

For instance your json looks like this : {"id":1,"content":"Hello, World!"}

You can access this thru angularjs like so:

angular.module('app', [])
    .controller('myApp', function($scope, $http) {
        $http.get('http://yourapp/api').
            then(function(response) {
                $scope.datafromapi = response.data;
            });
    });

Then on your html you would do it like this:

<!doctype html>
<html ng-app="myApp">
    <head>
        <title>Hello AngularJS</title>
        <script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/angularjs/1.4.3/angular.min.js"></script>
        <script src="hello.js"></script>
    </head>

    <body>
        <div ng-controller="myApp">
            <p>The ID is {{datafromapi.id}}</p>
            <p>The content is {{datafromapi.content}}</p>
        </div>
    </body>
</html>

This calls the CDN for angularjs in case you don't want to download them.

<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/angularjs/1.4.3/angular.min.js"></script>
<script src="hello.js"></script>

Hope this helps.

React - how to pass state to another component

Move all of your state and your handleClick function from Header to your MainWrapper component.

Then pass values as props to all components that need to share this functionality.

class MainWrapper extends React.Component {
    constructor() {
        super();
        this.state = {
            sidbarPushCollapsed: false,
            profileCollapsed: false
        };
        this.handleClick = this.handleClick.bind(this);
    }
    handleClick() {
        this.setState({
            sidbarPushCollapsed: !this.state.sidbarPushCollapsed,
            profileCollapsed: !this.state.profileCollapsed

        });
    }
    render() {
        return (
           //...
           <Header
               handleClick={this.handleClick}
               sidbarPushCollapsed={this.state.sidbarPushCollapsed}
               profileCollapsed={this.state.profileCollapsed} />
        );

Then in your Header's render() method, you'd use this.props:

<button type="button" id="sidbarPush" onClick={this.props.handleClick} profile={this.props.profileCollapsed}>

What is the difference between List and ArrayList?

There's no difference between list implementations in both of your examples. There's however a difference in a way you can further use variable myList in your code.

When you define your list as:

List myList = new ArrayList();

you can only call methods and reference members that are defined in the List interface. If you define it as:

ArrayList myList = new ArrayList();

you'll be able to invoke ArrayList-specific methods and use ArrayList-specific members in addition to those whose definitions are inherited from List.

Nevertheless, when you call a method of a List interface in the first example, which was implemented in ArrayList, the method from ArrayList will be called (because the List interface doesn't implement any methods).

That's called polymorphism. You can read up on it.

How to build & install GLFW 3 and use it in a Linux project

Great guide, thank you. Given most instructions here, it almost built for me but I did have one remaining error.

/usr/bin/ld: //usr/local/lib/libglfw3.a(glx_context.c.o): undefined reference to symbol 'dlclose@@GLIBC_2.2.5'
//lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libdl.so.2: error adding symbols: DSO missing from command line
collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status

After searching for this error, I had to add -ldl to the command line.

g++ main.cpp -lglfw3 -lX11 -lXrandr -lXinerama -lXi -lXxf86vm -lXcursor -lGL -lpthread -ldl

Then the "hello GLFW" sample app compiled and linked.

I am pretty new to linux so I am not completely certain what exactly this extra library does... other than fix my linking error. I do see that cmd line switch in the post above, however.

There is easy way of doing this. I don't know why people are giving complicated answers.

Double click SSIS package. Then go to connection manager, select DestinationConnectionOLDB and then add password next to login field.

Example: Data Source=SysproDB1;User ID=test;password=test;Initial Catalog=ASBuiltDW;Provider=SQLNCLI11;Auto Translate=false;

Do same for SourceConnectionOLDB.

How do I remove the non-numeric character from a string in java?

Previous answers will strip your decimal point. If you want to save your decimal, you might want to

String str = "My values are : 900.00, 700.00, 650.50";

String[] values = str.split("[^\\d.?\\d]");
// split on wherever they are not digits except the '.' decimal point
// values: { "900.00", "700.00", "650.50"}

How to best display in Terminal a MySQL SELECT returning too many fields?

Try enabling vertical mode, using \G to execute the query instead of ;:

mysql> SELECT * FROM sometable \G

Your results will be listed in the vertical mode, so each column value will be printed on a separate line. The output will be narrower but obviously much longer.

Reading in double values with scanf in c

Use the %lf format specifier to read a double:

double a;
scanf("%lf",&a);

Wikipedia has a decent reference for available format specifiers.

You'll need to use the %lf format specifier to print out the results as well:

printf("%lf %lf",a,b);

Using "word-wrap: break-word" within a table

table-layout: fixed will get force the cells to fit the table (and not the other way around), e.g.:

              table-layout: fixed;">
  <tr>
    <td>
        aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
        bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbb
    </td>
  </tr>
</table>

Clone() vs Copy constructor- which is recommended in java

Keep in mind that the copy constructor limits the class type to that of the copy constructor. Consider the example:

// Need to clone person, which is type Person
Person clone = new Person(person);

This doesn't work if person could be a subclass of Person (or if Person is an interface). This is the whole point of clone, is that it can can clone the proper type dynamically at runtime (assuming clone is properly implemented).

Person clone = (Person)person.clone();

or

Person clone = (Person)SomeCloneUtil.clone(person); // See Bozho's answer

Now person can be any type of Person assuming that clone is properly implemented.

Differences between utf8 and latin1

In latin1 each character is exactly one byte long. In utf8 a character can consist of more than one byte. Consequently utf8 has more characters than latin1 (and the characters they do have in common aren't necessarily represented by the same byte/bytesequence).

How to hide Android soft keyboard on EditText

There seems to be quite a variety of ways of preventing the system keyboard from appearing, both programmatically and in xml. However, this is the way that has worked for me while supporting pre API 11 devices.

// prevent system keyboard from appearing

    editText.setRawInputType(InputType.TYPE_CLASS_TEXT);
    editText.setTextIsSelectable(true);
} else {

Java Try and Catch IOException Problem

Your countLines(String filename) method throws IOException.

You can't use it in a member declaration. You'll need to perform the operation in a main(String[] args) method.

Your main(String[] args) method will get the IOException thrown to it by countLines and it will need to handle or declare it.

Try this to just throw the IOException from main

public class MyClass {
  private int lineCount;
  public static void main(String[] args) throws IOException {
    lineCount = LineCounter.countLines(sFileName);
  }
}

or this to handle it and wrap it in an unchecked IllegalArgumentException:

public class MyClass {
  private int lineCount;
  private String sFileName  = "myfile";
  public static void main(String[] args) throws IOException {
    try {
      lineCount = LineCounter.countLines(sFileName);
     } catch (IOException e) {
       throw new IllegalArgumentException("Unable to load " + sFileName, e);
     }
  }
}

CSS transition effect makes image blurry / moves image 1px, in Chrome?

Just found another reason why an element goes blurry when being transformed. I was using transform: translate3d(-5.5px, -18px, 0); to re-position an element once it had been loaded in, however that element became blurry.

I tried all the suggestions above but it turned out that it was due to me using a decimal value for one of the translate values. Whole numbers don't cause the blur, and the further away I went from the whole number the worse the blur became.

i.e. 5.5px blurs the element the most, 5.1px the least.

Just thought I'd chuck this here in case it helps anybody.

How to load assemblies in PowerShell?

None of the answers helped me, so I'm posting the solution that worked for me, all I had to do is to import the SQLPS module, I realized this when by accident I ran the Restore-SqlDatabase command and started working, meaning that the assembly was referenced in that module somehow.

Just run:

Note: Thanks Jason for noting that SQLPS is deprecated

instead run:

How to pass data between fragments

From the Fragment documentation:

Often you will want one Fragment to communicate with another, for example to change the content based on a user event. All Fragment-to-Fragment communication is done through the associated Activity. Two Fragments should never communicate directly.

So I suggest you have look on the basic fragment training docs in the documentation. They're pretty comprehensive with an example and a walk-through guide.

Bulk Insert Correctly Quoted CSV File in SQL Server

I had the same problem, however, it worked for me with the following settings:

bulk insert schema.table
from '\\your\data\source.csv'
with (
datafiletype = 'char'
,format = 'CSV'
,firstrow = 2
,fieldterminator = '|'
,rowterminator = '\n'
,tablock
)

My CSV-File looks like this:

"col1"|"col2"
"val1"|"val2"
"val3"|"val4"

My problem was, I had rowterminator set to '0x0a' before, it did not work. Once I changed it to '\n', it started working...

How to serialize Joda DateTime with Jackson JSON processor?

As @Kimble has said, with Jackson 2, using the default formatting is very easy; simply register JodaModule on your ObjectMapper.

ObjectMapper mapper = new ObjectMapper();
mapper.registerModule(new JodaModule());

For custom serialization/de-serialization of DateTime, you need to implement your own StdScalarSerializer and StdScalarDeserializer; it's pretty convoluted, but anyway.

For example, here's a DateTime serializer that uses the ISODateFormat with the UTC time zone:

public class DateTimeSerializer extends StdScalarSerializer<DateTime> {

    public DateTimeSerializer() {
        super(DateTime.class);
    }

    @Override
    public void serialize(DateTime dateTime,
                          JsonGenerator jsonGenerator,
                          SerializerProvider provider) throws IOException, JsonGenerationException {
        String dateTimeAsString = ISODateTimeFormat.withZoneUTC().print(dateTime);
        jsonGenerator.writeString(dateTimeAsString);
    }
}

And the corresponding de-serializer:

public class DateTimeDesrializer extends StdScalarDeserializer<DateTime> {

    public DateTimeDesrializer() {
        super(DateTime.class);
    }

    @Override
    public DateTime deserialize(JsonParser jsonParser,
                                DeserializationContext deserializationContext) throws IOException, JsonProcessingException {
        try {
            JsonToken currentToken = jsonParser.getCurrentToken();
            if (currentToken == JsonToken.VALUE_STRING) {
                String dateTimeAsString = jsonParser.getText().trim();
                return ISODateTimeFormat.withZoneUTC().parseDateTime(dateTimeAsString);
            }
        } finally {
            throw deserializationContext.mappingException(getValueClass());
        }
    }

Then tie these together with a module:

public class DateTimeModule extends SimpleModule {

    public DateTimeModule() {
        super();
        addSerializer(DateTime.class, new DateTimeSerializer());
        addDeserializer(DateTime.class, new DateTimeDeserializer());
    }
}

Then register the module on your ObjectMapper:

ObjectMapper mapper = new ObjectMapper();
mapper.registerModule(new DateTimeModule());

How to find all serial devices (ttyS, ttyUSB, ..) on Linux without opening them?

I have no serial device here to test it, but if you have python and dbus you can try it yourself.

import dbus
bus = dbus.SystemBus()
hwmanager = bus.get_object('org.freedesktop.Hal', '/org/freedesktop/Hal/Manager')
hwmanager_i = dbus.Interface(hwmanager, 'org.freedesktop.Hal.Manager')
print hwmanager_i.FindDeviceByCapability("serial")

If it fails you can search inside hwmanager_i.GetAllDevicesWithProperties() to see if the capability name "serial" that I just guessed has a different name.

What USB driver should we use for the Nexus 5?

I just wanted to bring a small contribution, because I have been able to debug on my Nexus 5 device on Windows 8, without doing all of this.

When I plugged it, there wasn't any yellow exclamation mark within Device Manager. So for me, the drivers were OK. But the device was not listed within my Eclipse DDMS. After a little bit of searching, it was just an option to change in the device settings. By default, the Nexus 5 USB computer connection is in MTP mode (Media Device).

What you have to do is:

  • Unplug the device from the computer
  • Go to Settings -> Storage.
  • In the ActionBar, click the option menu and choose "USB computer connection".
  • Check "Camera (PTP)" connection.
  • Plug the device and you should have a popup on the device allowing you to accept the computer's incoming connection, or something like that.
  • Finally, you should see it now in the DDMS and voilà.

I hope this will help!

Updating state on props change in React Form

componentWillReceiveProps is being deprecated because using it "often leads to bugs and inconsistencies".

If something changes from the outside, consider resetting the child component entirely with key.

Providing a key prop to the child component makes sure that whenever the value of key changes from the outside, this component is re-rendered. E.g.,

<EmailInput
  defaultEmail={this.props.user.email}
  key={this.props.user.id}
/>

On its performance:

While this may sound slow, the performance difference is usually insignificant. Using a key can even be faster if the components have heavy logic that runs on updates since diffing gets bypassed for that subtree.

Post a json object to mvc controller with jquery and ajax

instead of receiving the json string a model binding is better. For example:

[HttpPost]
public ActionResult AddUser(UserAddModel model)
{
    if (ModelState.IsValid) {
        return Json(new { Response = "Success" });
    }
    return Json(new { Response = "Error" });
}

<script>
function submitForm() {
    $.ajax({
        type: 'POST',
        url: "@Url.Action("AddUser")",
        contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8",
        dataType: 'json',
        data: $("form[name=UserAddForm]").serialize(),
        success: function (data) {
            console.log(data);
        }
    });
}
</script>

Encrypting & Decrypting a String in C#

If you need to store a password in memory and would like to have it encrypted you should use SecureString:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.security.securestring.aspx

For more general uses I would use a FIPS approved algorithm such as Advanced Encryption Standard, formerly known as Rijndael. See this page for an implementation example:

display: flex not working on Internet Explorer

Internet Explorer doesn't fully support Flexbox due to:

Partial support is due to large amount of bugs present (see known issues).

enter image description here Screenshot and infos taken from caniuse.com

Notes

Internet Explorer before 10 doesn't support Flexbox, while IE 11 only supports the 2012 syntax.

Known issues

  • IE 11 requires a unit to be added to the third argument, the flex-basis property see MSFT documentation.
  • In IE10 and IE11, containers with display: flex and flex-direction: column will not properly calculate their flexed childrens' sizes if the container has min-height but no explicit height property. See bug.
  • In IE10 the default value for flex is 0 0 auto rather than 0 1 auto as defined in the latest spec.
  • IE 11 does not vertically align items correctly when min-height is used. See bug.

Workarounds

Flexbugs is a community-curated list of Flexbox issues and cross-browser workarounds for them. Here's a list of all the bugs with a workaround available and the browsers that affect.

  1. Minimum content sizing of flex items not honored
  2. Column flex items set to align-items: center overflow their container
  3. min-height on a flex container won't apply to its flex items
  4. flex shorthand declarations with unitless flex-basis values are ignored
  5. Column flex items don't always preserve intrinsic aspect ratios
  6. The default flex value has changed
  7. flex-basis doesn't account for box-sizing: border-box
  8. flex-basis doesn't support calc()
  9. Some HTML elements can't be flex containers
  10. align-items: baseline doesn't work with nested flex containers
  11. Min and max size declarations are ignored when wrapping flex items
  12. Inline elements are not treated as flex-items
  13. Importance is ignored on flex-basis when using flex shorthand
  14. Shrink-to-fit containers with flex-flow: column wrap do not contain their items
  15. Column flex items ignore margin: auto on the cross axis
  16. flex-basis cannot be animated
  17. Flex items are not correctly justified when max-width is used

How can I remove a key from a Python dictionary?

You can use exception handling if you want to be very verbose:

try:
    del dict[key]

except KeyError: pass

This is slower, however, than the pop() method, if the key doesn't exist.

my_dict.pop('key', None)

It won't matter for a few keys, but if you're doing this repeatedly, then the latter method is a better bet.

The fastest approach is this:

if 'key' in dict:
    del myDict['key']

But this method is dangerous because if 'key' is removed in between the two lines, a KeyError will be raised.

How to change background color in the Notepad++ text editor?

There seems to have been an update some time in the past 3 years which changes the location of where to place themes in order to get them working.

Previosuly, themes were located in the Notepad++ installation folder. Now they are located in AppData:

C:\Users\YOUR_USER\AppData\Roaming\Notepad++\themes

My answer is an update to @Amit-IO's answer about manually copying the themes.

  1. In Explorer, browse to: %AppData%\Notepad++.
  2. If a folder called themes does not exist, create it.
  3. Download your favourite theme from wherever (see Amit-IO's answer for a good list) and save it to %AppData%\Notepad++\themes.
  4. Restart Notepad++ and then use Settings -> Style Configurator. The new theme(s) will appear in the list.

Find the max of two or more columns with pandas

You can get the maximum like this:

>>> import pandas as pd
>>> df = pd.DataFrame({"A": [1,2,3], "B": [-2, 8, 1]})
>>> df
   A  B
0  1 -2
1  2  8
2  3  1
>>> df[["A", "B"]]
   A  B
0  1 -2
1  2  8
2  3  1
>>> df[["A", "B"]].max(axis=1)
0    1
1    8
2    3

and so:

>>> df["C"] = df[["A", "B"]].max(axis=1)
>>> df
   A  B  C
0  1 -2  1
1  2  8  8
2  3  1  3

If you know that "A" and "B" are the only columns, you could even get away with

>>> df["C"] = df.max(axis=1)

And you could use .apply(max, axis=1) too, I guess.

What is the most efficient way to create HTML elements using jQuery?

I am using jquery.min v2.0.3 . It's for me better to use following:

var select = jQuery("#selecter");
jQuery("`<option/>`",{value: someValue, text: someText}).appendTo(select);

as following:

var select = jQuery("#selecter");
jQuery(document.createElement('option')).prop({value: someValue, text: someText}).appendTo(select);

Processing time of first code is much lower than second code.

const someArray: {key: string, value: string}[] = [
    {key: 'first', value: 'one'},
    {key: 'second', value: 'two'}

1- I downloaded a VPN client on my PC to be totally blinded from the network. Shellfire I used. Use free account and connect to Shellserver.

2- Inside the windows firewall, I added incoming rule for Eclipse. Navigate to where eclipse exe is found.

3- Perform Maven Update project.

Then the project was able to fetch from the maven repository.

hope it helps.

How to search for an element in a golang slice

As other guys commented before you can write your own procedure with anonymous function to solve this issue.

I used two ways to solve it:

func Find(slice interface{}, f func(value interface{}) bool) int {
    s := reflect.ValueOf(slice)
    if s.Kind() == reflect.Slice {
        for index := 0; index < s.Len(); index++ {
            if f(s.Index(index).Interface()) {
                return index
            }
        }
    }
    return -1
}

Uses example:

type UserInfo struct {
    UserId          int
}

func main() {
    var (
        destinationList []UserInfo
        userId      int = 123
    )

    destinationList = append(destinationList, UserInfo {
        UserId          : 23,
    })
    destinationList = append(destinationList, UserInfo {
        UserId          : 12,
    })

    idx := Find(destinationList, func(value interface{}) bool {
        return value.(UserInfo).UserId == userId
    })

    if idx < 0 {
        fmt.Println("not found")
    } else {
        fmt.Println(idx)
    }
}

Second method with less computational cost:

func Search(length int, f func(index int) bool) int {
    for index := 0; index < length; index++ {
        if f(index) {
            return index
        }
    }
    return -1
}

Uses example:

type UserInfo struct {
    UserId          int
}

func main() {
    var (
        destinationList []UserInfo
        userId      int = 123
    )

    destinationList = append(destinationList, UserInfo {
        UserId          : 23,
    })
    destinationList = append(destinationList, UserInfo {
        UserId          : 123,
    })

    idx := Search(len(destinationList), func(index int) bool {
        return destinationList[index].UserId == userId
    })

    if  idx < 0 {
        fmt.Println("not found")
    } else {
        fmt.Println(idx)
    }
}

Why is it not advisable to have the database and web server on the same machine?

I can speak from first hand experience that it is often a good idea to place the web server and database on different machines. If you have an application that is resource intensive, it can easily cause the CPU cycles on the machine to peak, essentially bringing the machine to a halt. However, if your application has limited use of the database, it would probably be no big deal to have them share a server.

How to get the innerHTML of selectable jquery element?

The parameter ui has a property called selected which is a reference to the selected dom element, you can call innerHTML on that element.

Your code $('.ui-selected').innerHTML tries to return the innerHTML property of a jQuery wrapper element for a dom element with class ui-selected

$(function () {
    $("#select-image").selectable({
        selected: function (event, ui) {
            var $variable = ui.selected.innerHTML; // or $(ui.selected).html()
            console.log($variable);
        }
    });
});

VBA Date as integer

You can use bellow code example for date string like mdate and Now() like toDay, you can also calculate deference between both date like Aging

Public Sub test(mdate As String)
    Dim toDay As String
    mdate = Round(CDbl(CDate(mdate)), 0)
    toDay = Round(CDbl(Now()), 0)
    Dim Aging as String
    Aging = toDay - mdate
    MsgBox ("So aging is -" & Aging & vbCr & "from the date - " & _
    Format(mdate, "dd-mm-yyyy")) & " to " & Format(toDay, "dd-mm-yyyy"))
End Sub

NB: Used CDate for convert Date String to Valid Date

I am using this in Office 2007 :)

Finding what branch a Git commit came from

A poor man's option is to use the tool tig1 on HEAD, search for the commit, and then visually follow the line from that commit back up until a merge commit is seen. The default merge message should specify what branch is getting merged to where :)

1 Tig is an ncurses-based text-mode interface for Git. It functions mainly as a Git repository browser, but it can also assist in staging changes for commit at chunk level and act as a pager for output from various Git commands.

Read from a gzip file in python

Try gzipping some data through the gzip libary like this...

import gzip
content = "Lots of content here"
f = gzip.open('Onlyfinnaly.log.gz', 'wb')
f.write(content)
f.close()

... then run your code as posted ...

import gzip
f=gzip.open('Onlyfinnaly.log.gz','rb')
file_content=f.read()
print file_content

This method worked for me as for some reason the gzip library fails to read some files.

Installing tensorflow with anaconda in windows

I have python 3.5 with anaconda. First I tried everything given above but it did not work for me on windows 10 64bit. So I simply tried:-

  1. Open the command prompt
  2. Check for python version for which you want to install tensorflow, if you have multiple versions of python.
  3. If you just have one version, then type in cmd:

    C:/>conda install tensorflow

    for multiple versions of python, type in cmd:

    C:/>conda install tensorflow python=version(e.g.python=3.5)

It works, just give it a try.
After installation open ipython console and import tensorflow:

import tensorflow

If tensorflow installed properly then you are ready to go. Enjoy machine learning:-)

How to grep for contents after pattern?

How to test abstract class in Java with JUnit?

You could do something like this

public abstract MyAbstractClass {

    @Autowire
    private MyMock myMock;

    protected String sayHello() {
            return myMock.getHello() + ", " + getName();
    }

    public abstract String getName();
}

// this is your JUnit test
public class MyAbstractClassTest extends MyAbstractClass {

    @Mock
    private MyMock myMock;

    @InjectMocks
    private MyAbstractClass thiz = this;

    private String myName = null;

    @Override
    public String getName() {
        return myName;
    }

    @Test
    public void testSayHello() {
        myName = "Johnny"
        when(myMock.getHello()).thenReturn("Hello");
        String result = sayHello();
        assertEquals("Hello, Johnny", result);
    }
}

What is use of c_str function In c++

In C/C++ programming there are two types of strings: the C strings and the standard strings. With the <string> header, we can use the standard strings. On the other hand, the C strings are just an array of normal chars. So, in order to convert a standard string to a C string, we use the c_str() function.

for example

// a string to a C-style string conversion//

const char *cstr1 = str1.c_str();
cout<<"Operation: *cstr1 = str1.c_str()"<<endl;
cout<<"The C-style string c_str1 is: "<<cstr1<<endl;
cout<<"\nOperation: strlen(cstr1)"<<endl;
cout<<"The length of C-style string str1 = "<<strlen(cstr1)<<endl;

And the output will be,

Operation: *cstr1 = str1.c_str()
The C-style string c_str1 is: Testing the c_str
Operation: strlen(cstr1)
The length of C-style string str1 = 17

Why javascript getTime() is not a function?

For all those who came here and did indeed use Date typed Variables, here is the solution I found. It does also apply to TypeScript.

I was facing this error because I tried to compare two dates using the following Method

var res = dat1.getTime() > dat2.getTime(); // or any other comparison operator

However Im sure I used a Date object, because Im using angularjs with typescript, and I got the data from a typed API call.

Im not sure why the error is raised, but I assume that because my Object was created by JSON deserialisation, possibly the getTime() method was simply not added to the prototype.

Solution

In this case, recreating a date-Object based on your dates will fix the issue.

var res = new Date(dat1).getTime() > new Date(dat2).getTime()

Edit:

I was right about this. Types will be cast to the according type but they wont be instanciated. Hence there will be a string cast to a date, which will obviously result in a runtime exception.

The trick is, if you use interfaces with non primitive only data such as dates or functions, you will need to perform a mapping after your http request.

class Details {
    description: string;
    date: Date;
    score: number;
    approved: boolean;

    constructor(data: any) {
      Object.assign(this, data);
    }
}

and to perform the mapping:

public getDetails(id: number): Promise<Details> {
    return this.http
               .get<Details>(`${this.baseUrl}/api/details/${id}`)
               .map(response => new Details(response.json()))
               .toPromise();
}

for arrays use:

public getDetails(): Promise<Details[]> {
    return this.http
               .get<Details>(`${this.baseUrl}/api/details`)
               .map(response => {
                   const array = JSON.parse(response.json()) as any[];
                   const details = array.map(data => new Details(data));
                   return details;
               })
               .toPromise();
}

Unable to install packages in latest version of RStudio and R Version.3.1.1

Most of the time @cer solution works but if in case its not working then try installing it in base R (NOT in R studio). As R studio runs base R executable in background so new package will be available in R studio as well. [my experience in macOS]

How can I access my localhost from my Android device?

It is actually quite simple.

  • Turn on WiFi Hotspot of your Android phone/router and connect your Laptop to your phone
  • Start your server at localhost (I am using WAMP server for Windows)
  • Now open the command prompt and enter
ipconfig

Once you've done that, you will see something like the following:

Wireless LAN adapter Wireless Network Connection:
  Connection-specific DNS Suffix  . :
  Link-local IPv6 Address . . . . . : fe80::80bc:e378:19ab:e448%11
  IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.43.76
  Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
  Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.43.1
  • Copy the IPv4 Address (in this case, it is 192.168.43.76)
  • In your mobile browser, simply paste the IPv4 Address

Note: Please set your network as "Home Network". Setting the network as Home Network means that you are allowing your PC to share stuff with other devices on the same network.

If you are using Windows 10, this can be done with the following:

  • Open Settings
  • Go to Network & Internet
  • Select WiFi in the left menu
  • Tap on the name of the connected WiFi
  • Set the Network Profile of the network to be Private

If you are having an issue, it is most likely to do with Windows Firewall.

  • Open Control Panel
  • Go to Windows Defender Firewall
  • Tap on Allow an app or feature through Windows Defender Firewall
  • Check whether the app is enabled for Private networks (there should be a tick)
  • If it is not enabled, tap Change settings and tick the checkbox under Private for the app

Reading a resource file from within jar

The problem is that certain third party libraries require file pathnames rather than input streams. Most of the answers don't address this issue.

In this case, one workaround is to copy the resource contents into a temporary file. The following example uses jUnit's TemporaryFolder.

    private List<String> decomposePath(String path){
        List<String> reversed = Lists.newArrayList();
        File currFile = new File(path);
        while(currFile != null){
            reversed.add(currFile.getName());
            currFile = currFile.getParentFile();
        }
        return Lists.reverse(reversed);
    }

    private String writeResourceToFile(String resourceName) throws IOException {
        ClassLoader loader = getClass().getClassLoader();
        InputStream configStream = loader.getResourceAsStream(resourceName);
        List<String> pathComponents = decomposePath(resourceName);
        folder.newFolder(pathComponents.subList(0, pathComponents.size() - 1).toArray(new String[0]));
        File tmpFile = folder.newFile(resourceName);
        Files.copy(configStream, tmpFile.toPath(), REPLACE_EXISTING);
        return tmpFile.getAbsolutePath();
    }

How to hide output of subprocess in Python 2.7

Here's a more portable version (just for fun, it is not necessary in your case):

#!/usr/bin/env python
# -*- coding: utf-8 -*-
from subprocess import Popen, PIPE, STDOUT

try:
    from subprocess import DEVNULL # py3k
except ImportError:
    import os
    DEVNULL = open(os.devnull, 'wb')

text = u"René Descartes"
p = Popen(['espeak', '-b', '1'], stdin=PIPE, stdout=DEVNULL, stderr=STDOUT)
p.communicate(text.encode('utf-8'))
assert p.returncode == 0 # use appropriate for your program error handling here

How to set margin of ImageView using code, not xml

Kevin's code creates redundant MarginLayoutParams object. Simpler version:

ImageView image = (ImageView) findViewById(R.id.main_image);
RelativeLayout.LayoutParams lp = new RelativeLayout.LayoutParams(image.getLayoutParams());
lp.setMargins(50, 100, 0, 0);
image.setLayoutParams(lp);

How to Export Private / Secret ASC Key to Decrypt GPG Files

this ended up working for me:

   gpg -a --export-secret-keys > exportedKeyFilename.asc

you can name keyfilename.asc by any name as long as you keep on the .asc extension.
this command copies all secret-keys on a user's computer to keyfilename.asc in the working directory of where the command was called.

To Export just 1 specific secret key instead of all of them:

   gpg -a --export-secret-keys keyIDNumber > exportedKeyFilename.asc

keyIDNumber is the number of the key id for the desired key you are trying to export.

C++ Structure Initialization

After my question resulted in no satisfying result (because C++ doesn't implement tag-based init for structures), I took the trick I found here: Are members of a C++ struct initialized to 0 by default?

For you it would amount to do that:

address temp_address = {}; // will zero all fields in C++
temp_address.city = "Hamilton";
temp_address.prov = "Ontario";

This is certainly the closest to what you wanted originally (zero all the fields except those you want to initialize).

Undefined index with $_POST

Prior to PHP 5.2.0 and above you should use filter_input() which is especially created for that to get a specific external user inputs such as get, post or cookie variables by name and optionally filters it to avoid any XSS/Injection attacks on your site. For example:

$user = filter_input(INPUT_POST, 'username');

You may use one of INPUT_GET, INPUT_POST, INPUT_COOKIE, INPUT_SERVER, or INPUT_ENV.

By using optional 3rd argument, you can extend it by variety of filters (for validating, sanitizing, filtering or other), e.g. FILTER_SANITIZE_SPECIAL_CHARS, FILTER_SANITIZE_ENCODED, etc.

For example:

<?php
$search_html = filter_input(INPUT_GET, 'search', FILTER_SANITIZE_SPECIAL_CHARS);
$search_url = filter_input(INPUT_GET, 'search', FILTER_SANITIZE_ENCODED);
echo "You have searched for $search_html.\n";
echo "<a href='?search=$search_url'>Search again.</a>";
?>

The syntax is:

mixed filter_input ( int $type , string $variable_name [, int $filter = FILTER_DEFAULT [, mixed $options ]] )

(PHP 5 >= 5.2.0, PHP 7)

Your execution plan should make this clear; the JOIN takes precedence, after which the results are filtered.

Usage of the backtick character (`) in JavaScript

Apart from string interpolation, you can also call a function using back-tick.

var sayHello = function () {
    console.log('Hello', arguments);
}

// To call this function using ``

sayHello`some args`; // Check console for the output

// Or
sayHello`
    some args
`;

Check styled component. They use it heavily.

In python, how do I cast a class object to a dict

I am trying to write a class that is "both" a list or a dict. I want the programmer to be able to both "cast" this object to a list (dropping the keys) or dict (with the keys).

Looking at the way Python currently does the dict() cast: It calls Mapping.update() with the object that is passed. This is the code from the Python repo:

def update(self, other=(), /, **kwds):
    ''' D.update([E, ]**F) -> None.  Update D from mapping/iterable E and F.
        If E present and has a .keys() method, does:     for k in E: D[k] = E[k]
        If E present and lacks .keys() method, does:     for (k, v) in E: D[k] = v
        In either case, this is followed by: for k, v in F.items(): D[k] = v
    '''
    if isinstance(other, Mapping):
        for key in other:
            self[key] = other[key]
    elif hasattr(other, "keys"):
        for key in other.keys():
            self[key] = other[key]
    else:
        for key, value in other:
            self[key] = value
    for key, value in kwds.items():
        self[key] = value

The last subcase of the if statement, where it is iterating over other is the one most people have in mind. However, as you can see, it is also possible to have a keys() property. That, combined with a __getitem__() should make it easy to have a subclass be properly casted to a dictionary:

class Wharrgarbl(object):
    def __init__(self, a, b, c, sum, version='old'):
        self.a = a
        self.b = b
        self.c = c
        self.sum = 6
        self.version = version

    def __int__(self):
        return self.sum + 9000

    def __keys__(self):
        return ["a", "b", "c"]

    def __getitem__(self, key):
        # have obj["a"] -> obj.a
        return self.__getattribute__(key)

Then this will work:

>>> w = Wharrgarbl('one', 'two', 'three', 6)
>>> dict(w)
{'a': 'one', 'c': 'three', 'b': 'two'}

How to COUNT rows within EntityFramework without loading contents?

I think this should work...

var query = from m in context.MyTable
            where m.MyContainerId == '1' // or what ever the foreign key name is...
            select m;

var count = query.Count();

How to open URL in Microsoft Edge from the command line?

I would like to recommend:
Microsoft Edge Run Wrapper
https://github.com/mihula/RunEdge

You run it this way:

RunEdge.exe [URL]
  • where URL may or may not contains protocol (http://), when not provided, wrapper adds http://
  • if URL not provided at all, it just opens edge

Examples:

RunEdge.exe http://google.com
RunEdge.exe www.stackoverflow.com

It is not exactly new way how to do it, but it is wrapped as exe file, which could be useful in some situations. For me it is way how to start Edge from IBM Notes Basic client.

Adding custom HTTP headers using JavaScript

I think the easiest way to accomplish it is to use querystring instead of HTTP headers.

Error: Unfortunately you can't have non-Gradle Java modules and > Android-Gradle modules in one project

Had same issue with Android Studio 3.3 Canary 13.

I was able to solve it by following these steps:

  • Go to the module settings and remove your module from the list
  • Edit settings.gradle and remove your module from there also
  • Physically move the module directory out of the project (to your desktop for instance)
  • Then in the module settings again add a module and select as type 'Import Gradle Project' in which you select the module folder you have moved to your desktop (or anywhere else)

When you complete these steps the module will be copied into your project again, AS will start syncing Gradle again and that succeeds without errors :-) Check your GIT status and you will see as soon as you add your module directory to GIT again that nothing has changed to your working directory. So it's purely an issue with AS that gets somehow out-of-sync...

How do I add BundleConfig.cs to my project?

BundleConfig is nothing more than bundle configuration moved to separate file. It used to be part of app startup code (filters, bundles, routes used to be configured in one class)

To add this file, first you need to add the Microsoft.AspNet.Web.Optimization nuget package to your web project:

Install-Package Microsoft.AspNet.Web.Optimization

Then under the App_Start folder create a new cs file called BundleConfig.cs. Here is what I have in my mine (ASP.NET MVC 5, but it should work with MVC 4):

using System.Web;
using System.Web.Optimization;

namespace CodeRepository.Web
{
    public class BundleConfig
    {
        // For more information on bundling, visit http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=301862
        public static void RegisterBundles(BundleCollection bundles)
        {
            bundles.Add(new ScriptBundle("~/bundles/jquery").Include(
                        "~/Scripts/jquery-{version}.js"));

            bundles.Add(new ScriptBundle("~/bundles/jqueryval").Include(
                        "~/Scripts/jquery.validate*"));

            // Use the development version of Modernizr to develop with and learn from. Then, when you're
            // ready for production, use the build tool at http://modernizr.com to pick only the tests you need.
            bundles.Add(new ScriptBundle("~/bundles/modernizr").Include(
                        "~/Scripts/modernizr-*"));

            bundles.Add(new ScriptBundle("~/bundles/bootstrap").Include(
                      "~/Scripts/bootstrap.js",
                      "~/Scripts/respond.js"));

            bundles.Add(new StyleBundle("~/Content/css").Include(
                      "~/Content/bootstrap.css",
                      "~/Content/site.css"));
        }
    }
}

Then modify your Global.asax and add a call to RegisterBundles() in Application_Start():

using System.Web.Optimization;

protected void Application_Start()
{
    AreaRegistration.RegisterAllAreas();
    RouteConfig.RegisterRoutes(RouteTable.Routes);
    BundleConfig.RegisterBundles(BundleTable.Bundles);
}

React Router with optional path parameter

For any React Router v4 users arriving here following a search, optional parameters in a <Route> are denoted with a ? suffix.

Here's the relevant documentation:

https://reacttraining.com/react-router/web/api/Route/path-string

path: string

Any valid URL path that path-to-regexp understands.

    <Route path="/users/:id" component={User}/>

https://www.npmjs.com/package/path-to-regexp#optional

Optional

Parameters can be suffixed with a question mark (?) to make the parameter optional. This will also make the prefix optional.

Simple example of a paginated section of a site that can be accessed with or without a page number.

    <Route path="/section/:page?" component={Section} />

Delete all local git branches

I don't have grep or other unix on my box but this worked from VSCode's terminal:

git branch -d $(git branch).trim()

I use the lowercase d so it won't delete unmerged branches.

I was also on master when I did it, so * master doesn't exist so it didn't attempt deleting master.

Mysql - How to quit/exit from stored procedure

If you want an "early exit" for a situation in which there was no error, then use the accepted answer posted by @piotrm. Most typically, however, you will be bailing due to an error condition (especially in a SQL procedure).

As of MySQL v5.5 you can throw an exception. Negating exception handlers, etc. that will achieve the same result, but in a cleaner, more precise manner.

Here's how:

DECLARE CUSTOM_EXCEPTION CONDITION FOR SQLSTATE '45000';

IF <Some Error Condition> THEN
    SIGNAL CUSTOM_EXCEPTION
    SET MESSAGE_TEXT = 'Your Custom Error Message';
END IF;

Note SQLSTATE '45000' equates to "Unhandled user-defined exception condition". By default, this will produce an error code of 1644 (which has that same meaning). Note that you can throw other condition codes or error codes if you want (plus additional details for exception handling).

For more on this subject, check out:

https://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.5/en/signal.html

How to raise an error within a MySQL function

http://www.databasejournal.com/features/mysql/mysql-error-handling-using-the-signal-and-resignal-statements.html

Addendum

As I'm re-reading this post of mine, I realized I had something additional to add. Prior to MySQL v5.5, there was a way to emulate throwing an exception. It's not the same thing exactly, but this was the analogue: Create an error via calling a procedure which does not exist. Call the procedure by a name which is meaningful in order to get a useful means by which to determine what the problem was. When the error occurs, you'll get to see the line of failure (depending on your execution context).

For example:

CALL AttemptedToInsertSomethingInvalid;

Note that when you create a procedure, there is no validation performed on such things. So while in something like a compiled language, you could never call a function that wasn't there, in a script like this it will simply fail at runtime, which is exactly what is desired in this case!

nginx showing blank PHP pages

Many users fall in this thread expecting to find a solution for blank pages being displayed while using nginx+php-fpm, me being one of them. This is a recap of what I ended up doing after reading many of the answers here plus my own investigations (updated to php7.2):

1) Open /etc/php/7.2/fpm/pool.d/www.conf and check the value of parameter listen.

listen = /var/run/php/php7.2-fpm.sock

2) Parameter listen should match fastcgi_pass parameter in your site configuration file (i,e: /etc/nginx/sites-enabled/default).

fastcgi_pass unix:/var/run/php/php7.2-fpm.sock;

3) Check the file actually exists:

$ file /var/run/php/php7.2-fpm.sock
/var/run/php/php7.2-fpm.sock: socket

4) If it doesn't exist that means php7.2-fpm is not running, so you need to restart it:

$ sudo /etc/init.d/php7.2-fpm restart
[ ok ] Restarting php7.2-fpm (via systemctl): php7.2-fpm.service.

With regard to the location section in /etc/nginx/sites-enabled/default:

   # pass PHP scripts to FastCGI server
   #
   location ~ \.php$ {
      include snippets/fastcgi-php.conf;

      # With php-fpm (or other unix sockets):
      fastcgi_pass unix:/var/run/php/php7.2-fpm.sock;
   }

Check the file snippets/fastcgi-php.conf exists at location /etc/nginx/:

$ file /etc/nginx/snippets/fastcgi-php.conf
/etc/nginx/snippets/fastcgi-php.conf: ASCII text

This file contains a list of variable definitions required by php7.2-fpm. The variables are defined directly or through an include of a separated file.

 include fastcgi.conf;

This file is located at /etc/nginx/fastcgi.conf and it looks like:

fastcgi_param  QUERY_STRING       $query_string;
fastcgi_param  REQUEST_METHOD     $request_method;
...
fastcgi_param  REDIRECT_STATUS    200;

nginx includes two possible parameter files: fastcgi_params and fastcgi.conf. The difference between both is the definition of variable SCRIPT_FILENAME:

$ diff fastcgi_params fastcgi.conf
1a2
> fastcgi_param  SCRIPT_FILENAME    $document_root$fastcgi_script_name;

To make a long story short, fastcgi.conf should always work. If for some reason you're set up is using fastcgi_params, you should define SCRIPT_FILENAME:

location ~ \.php$ {
  include snippets/fastcgi-php.conf;

  # With php-fpm (or other unix sockets):
  fastcgi_pass unix:/var/run/php/php7.2-fpm.sock;

  fastcgi_param  SCRIPT_FILENAME    $document_root$fastcgi_script_name;
}

Now reload nginx configuration:

$ sudo nginx -s reload

And check a php file is displayed correctly. For instance:

/var/www/html/test.php

<pre><?php var_export($_SERVER)?></pre>

Where /var/www/html is the path to the document root.

If despite all that, you're still seeing a blank file, make sure your php.ini has short_open_tag enabled (if you're testing a PHP page with short tags).

how to delete all cookies of my website in php

I know this question is old, but this is a much easier alternative:

header_remove();

But be careful! It will erase ALL headers, including Cookies, Session, etc., as explained in the docs.

Count unique values in a column in Excel

try - =SUM(IF(FREQUENCY(MATCH(COLUMNRANGE,COLUMNRANGE,0),MATCH(COLUMNRANGE,COLUMNRANGE,0))>0,1))

where COLUMNRANGE = the range where you have these values.

e.g. - =SUM(IF(FREQUENCY(MATCH(C12:C26,C12:C26,0),MATCH(C12:C26,C12:C26,0))>0,1))

Press Ctrl+Shift+Enter to make the formula an array (won't calculate correctly otherwise)

How do I add an image to a JButton

I think that your problem is in the location of the image. You shall place it in your source, and then use it like this:

  JButton button = new JButton();
  try {
    Image img = ImageIO.read(getClass().getResource("resources/water.bmp"));
    button.setIcon(new ImageIcon(img));
  } catch (Exception ex) {
    System.out.println(ex);
  }

In this example, it is assumed that image is in src/resources/ folder.

Mysql service is missing

I have done it by the following way

  1. Start cmd
  2. Go to the "C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.6\bin"
  3. type mysqld --install

Like the following image. See for more information.

ggplot2 plot without axes, legends, etc

I didn't find this solution here. It removes all of it using the cowplot package:

library(cowplot)

p + theme_nothing() +
theme(legend.position="none") +
scale_x_continuous(expand=c(0,0)) +
scale_y_continuous(expand=c(0,0)) +
labs(x = NULL, y = NULL)

Just noticed that the same thing can be accomplished using theme.void() like this:

p + theme_void() +
theme(legend.position="none") +
scale_x_continuous(expand=c(0,0)) +
scale_y_continuous(expand=c(0,0)) +
labs(x = NULL, y = NULL)

Maven Install on Mac OS X

If you have tried brew install maven and were greeted with missing gcc compiler and some other dependencies, an easier approach is to install sdkman and then run

sdk install maven

(or refer to the latest documentation for the right command)

sdkman is probably over-qualified for the job, but if you deal with multiple versions of SDKs, it's a pretty nice tool to have in general.

Credits to Ammar for the excellent tip

What are the dark corners of Vim your mom never told you about?

Not exactly a dark secret, but I like to put the following mapping into my .vimrc file, so I can hit "-" (minus) anytime to open the file explorer to show files adjacent to the one I just edit. In the file explorer, I can hit another "-" to move up one directory, providing seamless browsing of a complex directory structures (like the ones used by the MVC frameworks nowadays):

map - :Explore<cr>

These may be also useful for somebody. I like to scroll the screen and advance the cursor at the same time:

map <c-j> j<c-e>
map <c-k> k<c-y>

Tab navigation - I love tabs and I need to move easily between them:

map <c-l> :tabnext<enter>
map <c-h> :tabprevious<enter>

Only on Mac OS X: Safari-like tab navigation:

map <S-D-Right> :tabnext<cr>
map <S-D-Left> :tabprevious<cr>

How do I perform a JAVA callback between classes?

Define an interface, and implement it in the class that will receive the callback.

Have attention to the multi-threading in your case.

Code example from http://cleancodedevelopment-qualityseal.blogspot.com.br/2012/10/understanding-callbacks-with-java.html

interface CallBack { //declare an interface with the callback methods, so you can use on more than one class and just refer to the interface
    void methodToCallBack();
}

class CallBackImpl implements CallBack { //class that implements the method to callback defined in the interface
    public void methodToCallBack() {
        System.out.println("I've been called back");
    }
}

class Caller {

    public void register(CallBack callback) {
        callback.methodToCallBack();
    }

    public static void main(String[] args) {
        Caller caller = new Caller();
        CallBack callBack = new CallBackImpl(); //because of the interface, the type is Callback even thought the new instance is the CallBackImpl class. This alows to pass different types of classes that have the implementation of CallBack interface
        caller.register(callBack);
    }
}

In your case, apart from multi-threading you could do like this:

interface ServerInterface {
    void newSeverConnection(Socket socket);
}

public class Server implements ServerInterface {

    public Server(int _address) {
        System.out.println("Starting Server...");
        serverConnectionHandler = new ServerConnections(_address, this);
        workers.execute(serverConnectionHandler);
        System.out.println("Do something else...");
    }

    void newServerConnection(Socket socket) {
        System.out.println("A function of my child class was called.");
    }

}

public class ServerConnections implements Runnable {

    private ServerInterface serverInterface;

    public ServerConnections(int _serverPort, ServerInterface _serverInterface) {
      serverPort = _serverPort;
      serverInterface = _serverInterface;
    }

    @Override
    public void run() {
        System.out.println("Starting Server Thread...");

        if (serverInterface == null) {
            System.out.println("Server Thread error: callback null");
        }

        try {
            mainSocket = new ServerSocket(serverPort);

            while (true) {
                serverInterface.newServerConnection(mainSocket.accept());
            }
        } catch (IOException ex) {
            Logger.getLogger(Server.class.getName()).log(Level.SEVERE, null, ex);
        }
    }
}

Multi-threading

Remember this does not handle multi-threading, this is another topic and can have various solutions depending on the project.

The observer-pattern

The observer-pattern does nearly this, the major difference is the use of an ArrayList for adding more than one listener. Where this is not needed, you get better performance with one reference.

How do you refresh the MySQL configuration file without restarting?

Specific actions you can do from SQL client and you don't need to restart anything:

SET GLOBAL log = 'ON';
FLUSH LOGS;

Convert time span value to format "hh:mm Am/Pm" using C#

At first, you need to convert time span to DateTime structure:

var dt = new DateTime(2000, 12, 1, timeSpan.Hours, timeSpan.Minutes, timeSpan.Seconds)

Then you need to convert the value to string with Short Time format

var result = dt.ToString("t"); // Convert to string using Short Time format

How to VueJS router-link active style

Just add to @Bert's solution to make it more clear:

    const routes = [
  { path: '/foo', component: Foo },
  { path: '/bar', component: Bar }
]

const router = new VueRouter({
  routes,
  linkExactActiveClass: "active" // active class for *exact* links.
})

As one can see, this line should be removed:

linkActiveClass: "active", // active class for non-exact links.

this way, ONLY the current link is hi-lighted. This should apply to most of the cases.

Playing .mp3 and .wav in Java?

You need to install JMF first (download using this link)

File f = new File("D:/Songs/preview.mp3");
MediaLocator ml = new MediaLocator(f.toURL());
Player p = Manager.createPlayer(ml);
p.start();

don't forget to add JMF jar files

PostgreSQL DISTINCT ON with different ORDER BY

You can also done this by using group by clause

   SELECT purchases.address_id, purchases.* FROM "purchases"

jQuery ui datepicker with Angularjs

I finally was able to run datepicker directive in angular js , here are pointers

include following JS in order

  1. jquery.js
  2. jquery-ui.js
  3. angular-min.js

I added the following

<script src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-1.10.2.js"></script>
<script src="http://code.jquery.com/ui/1.10.4/jquery-ui.js"></script>
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/angularjs/1.0.7/angular.min.js"> </script>

in html code

<body ng-app="myApp" ng-controller="myController">
// some other html code
<input type="text" ng-model="date" mydatepicker />
<br/>
 {{ date }}
 //some other html code
 </body>

in the js , make sure you code for the directive first and after that add the code for controller , else it will cause issues.

date picker directive :

var app = angular.module('myApp',[]);
app.directive('mydatepicker', function () {
return {
    restrict: 'A',
    require: 'ngModel',
     link: function (scope, element, attrs, ngModelCtrl) {
        element.datepicker({
            dateFormat: 'DD, d  MM, yy',
            onSelect: function (date) {
                scope.date = date;
                scope.$apply();
            }
        });
    }
  };
});

directive code referred from above answers.

After this directive , write the controller

app.controller('myController',function($scope){
//controller code
};

TRY THIS INSTEAD in angular js

  <script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/angularjs/1.0.7/angular.min.js"></script>

along with jquery.js and jquery-ui.js

we can implement angular js datepicker as

<input type="date" ng-model="date" name="DOB">

This gives the built in datepicker and date is set in ng-model and can be used for further processing and validation.

Found this after lot of successful headbanging with previous approach. :)

Fixing "Lock wait timeout exceeded; try restarting transaction" for a 'stuck" Mysql table?

When you establish a connection for a transaction, you acquire a lock before performing the transaction. If not able to acquire the lock, then you try for sometime. If lock is still not obtainable, then lock wait time exceeded error is thrown. Why you will not able to acquire a lock is that you are not closing the connection. So, when you are trying to get a lock second time, you will not be able to acquire the lock as your previous connection is still unclosed and holding the lock.

Solution: close the connection or setAutoCommit(true) (according to your design) to release the lock.

How do I check out an SVN project into Eclipse as a Java project?

Here are the steps:

  • Install the subclipse plugin (provides svn connectivity in eclipse) and connect to the repository. Instructions here: http://subclipse.tigris.org/install.html
  • Go to File->New->Other->Under the SVN category, select Checkout Projects from SVN.
  • Select your project's root folder and select checkout as a project in the workspace.

It seems you are checking the .project file into the source repository. I would suggest not checking in the .project file so users can have their own version of the file. Also, if you use the subclipse plugin it allows you to check out and configure a source folder as a java project. This process creates the correct .project for you(with the java nature),

What is the difference between class and instance methods?

Also remember, the same idea applies to variables. You will come across terms like static, member, instance, class and so on when talking about variables the same as you would for methods/functions.

It seems the common term in the Obj-C community is ivar for instance variable, but I am not an Obj-C guy, yet.

How to generate unique ID with node.js

If some one needs cryptographic-strong UUID, there is solution for that as well.

https://www.npmjs.com/package/generate-safe-id

npm install generate-safe-id

Why not UUIDs?

Random UUIDs (UUIDv4) do not have enough entropy to be universally unique (ironic, eh?). Random UUIDs have only 122 bits of entropy, which suggests that a duplicate will occur after only 2^61 IDs. Additionally, some UUIDv4 implementations do not use a cryptographically strong random number generator.

This library generates 240-bit IDs using the Node.js crypto RNG, suggesting the first duplicate will occur after generating 2^120 IDs. Based on the current energy production of the human race, this threshold will be impossible to cross for the foreseeable future.

var generateSafeId = require('generate-safe-id');

var id = generateSafeId();
// id == "zVPkWyvgRW-7pSk0iRzEhdnPcnWfMRi-ZcaPxrHA"

Restoring database from .mdf and .ldf files of SQL Server 2008

First google search yielded me this answer. So I thought of updating this with newer version of attach, detach.

Create database dbname
On
(
Filename= 'path where you copied files',
Filename ='path where you copied log'
)
For attach;

Further,if your database is cleanly shutdown(there are no active transactions while database was shutdown) and you dont have log file,you can use below method,SQL server will create a new transaction log file..

Create database dbname
    On
    (
    Filename= 'path where you copied files'
    )
    For attach;

if you don't specify transaction log file,SQL will try to look in the default path and will try to use it irrespective of whether database was cleanly shutdown or not..

Here is what MSDN has to say about this..

If a read-write database has a single log file and you do not specify a new location for the log file, the attach operation looks in the old location for the file. If it is found, the old log file is used, regardless of whether the database was shut down cleanly. However, if the old log file is not found and if the database was shut down cleanly and has no active log chain, the attach operation attempts to build a new log file for the database.

There are some restrictions with this approach and some side affects too..

1.attach-and-detach operations both disable cross-database ownership chaining for the database
2.Database trustworthy is set to off
3.Detaching a read-only database loses information about the differential bases of differential backups.

Most importantly..you can't attach a database with recent versions to an earlier version

How to link HTML5 form action to Controller ActionResult method in ASP.NET MVC 4

you make the use of the HTML Helper and have

    @using(Html.BeginForm())
    {
        Username: <input type="text" name="username" /> <br />
        Password: <input type="text" name="password" /> <br />
        <input type="submit" value="Login">
        <input type="submit" value="Create Account"/>
    }

or use the Url helper

<form method="post" action="@Url.Action("MyAction", "MyController")" >

Html.BeginForm has several (13) overrides where you can specify more information, for example, a normal use when uploading files is using:

@using(Html.BeginForm("myaction", "mycontroller", FormMethod.Post, new {enctype = "multipart/form-data"}))
{
    < ... >
}

If you don't specify any arguments, the Html.BeginForm() will create a POST form that points to your current controller and current action. As an example, let's say you have a controller called Posts and an action called Delete

public ActionResult Delete(int id)
{
   var model = db.GetPostById(id);
   return View(model);
}

[HttpPost]
public ActionResult Delete(int id)
{
    var model = db.GetPostById(id);
    if(model != null)
        db.DeletePost(id);

    return RedirectToView("Index");
}

and your html page would be something like:

<h2>Are you sure you want to delete?</h2>
<p>The Post named <strong>@Model.Title</strong> will be deleted.</p>

@using(Html.BeginForm())
{
    <input type="submit" class="btn btn-danger" value="Delete Post"/>
    <text>or</text>
    @Url.ActionLink("go to list", "Index")
}

How to change working directory in Jupyter Notebook?

Jupyter under the WinPython environment has a batch file in the scripts folder called:

make_working_directory_be_not_winpython.bat

You need to edit the following line in it:

echo WINPYWORKDIR = %%HOMEDRIVE%%%%HOMEPATH%%\Documents\WinPython%%WINPYVER%%\Notebooks>>"%winpython_ini%"

replacing the Documents\WinPython%%WINPYVER%%\Notebooks part with your folder address.

Notice that the %%HOMEDRIVE%%%%HOMEPATH%%\ part will identify the root and user folders (i.e. C:\Users\your_name\) which will allow you to point different WinPython installations on separate computers to the same cloud storage folder (e.g. OneDrive), accessing and working with the same files from different machines. I find that very useful.

Correct modification of state arrays in React.js

React may batch updates, and therefore the correct approach is to provide setState with a function that performs the update.

For the React update addon, the following will reliably work:

this.setState( state => update(state, {array: {$push: [4]}}) );

or for concat():

this.setState( state => ({
    array: state.array.concat([4])
}));

The following shows what https://jsbin.com/mofekakuqi/7/edit?js,output as an example of what happens if you get it wrong.

The setTimeout() invocation correctly adds three items because React will not batch updates within a setTimeout callback (see https://groups.google.com/d/msg/reactjs/G6pljvpTGX0/0ihYw2zK9dEJ).

The buggy onClick will only add "Third", but the fixed one, will add F, S and T as expected.

class List extends React.Component {
  constructor(props) {
    super(props);

    this.state = {
      array: []
    }

    setTimeout(this.addSome, 500);
  }

  addSome = () => {
      this.setState(
        update(this.state, {array: {$push: ["First"]}}));
      this.setState(
        update(this.state, {array: {$push: ["Second"]}}));
      this.setState(
        update(this.state, {array: {$push: ["Third"]}}));
    };

  addSomeFixed = () => {
      this.setState( state =>
        update(state, {array: {$push: ["F"]}}));
      this.setState( state =>
        update(state, {array: {$push: ["S"]}}));
      this.setState( state =>
        update(state, {array: {$push: ["T"]}}));
    };

  render() {

    const list = this.state.array.map((item, i) => {
      return <li key={i}>{item}</li>
    });
       console.log(this.state);

    return (
      <div className='list'>
        <button onClick={this.addSome}>add three</button>
        <button onClick={this.addSomeFixed}>add three (fixed)</button>
        <ul>
        {list}
        </ul>
      </div>
    );
  }
};

ReactDOM.render(<List />, document.getElementById('app'));

Read text file into string array (and write)

If you don't care about loading the file into memory, as of Go 1.16, you can use the os.ReadFile and bytes.Count functions.

package main

import (
    "log"
    "os"
    "bytes"
)

func main() {
    data, err := os.ReadFile("input.txt")
    if err != nil {
        log.Fatal(err)
    }

    n := bytes.Count(data, []byte{'\n'})

    fmt.Printf("input.txt has %d lines\n", n)
}

Android: TextView: Remove spacing and padding on top and bottom

Since my requirement is override the existing textView get from findViewById(getResources().getIdentifier("xxx", "id", "android"));, so I can't simply try onDraw() of other answer.

But I just figure out the correct steps to fixed my problem, here is the final result from Layout Inspector:

enter image description here

Since what I wanted is merely remove the top spaces, so I don't have to choose other font to remove bottom spaces.

Here is the critical code to fixed it:

Typeface mfont = Typeface.createFromAsset(getResources().getAssets(), "fonts/myCustomFont.otf");
myTextView.setTypeface(mfont);

myTextView.setPadding(0, 0, 0, 0);

myTextView.setIncludeFontPadding(false);

The first key is set custom font "fonts/myCustomFont.otf" which has the space on bottom but not on the top, you can easily figure out this by open otf file and click any font in android Studio:

enter image description here

As you can see, the cursor on the bottom has extra spacing but not on the top, so it fixed my problem.

The second key is you can't simply skip any of the code, otherwise it might not works. That's the reason you can found some people comment that an answer is working and some other people comment that it's not working.

Let's illustrated what will happen if I remove one of them.

Without setTypeface(mfont);:

Without setPadding(0, 0, 0, 0);:

Without setIncludeFontPadding(false);:

Without 3 of them (i.e. the original):

Create a pointer to two-dimensional array

You could also add an offset if you want to use negative indexes:

uint8_t l_matrix[10][20];
uint8_t (*matrix_ptr)[20] = l_matrix+5;
matrix_ptr[-4][1]=7;

If your compiler gives an error or warning you could use:

uint8_t (*matrix_ptr)[20] = (uint8_t (*)[20]) l_matrix;

}

#endif

winsock code here

Difference between <context:annotation-config> and <context:component-scan>

The difference between the two is really simple!.

<context:annotation-config />

Enables you to use annotations that are restricted to wiring up properties and constructors only of beans!.

Where as

<context:component-scan base-package="org.package"/>

Enables everything that <context:annotation-config /> can do, with addition of using stereotypes eg.. @Component, @Service , @Repository. So you can wire entire beans and not just restricted to constructors or properties!.

gitignore all files of extension in directory

To ignore untracked files just go to .git/info/exclude. Exclude is a file with a list of ignored extensions or files.

How to add a button programmatically in VBA next to some sheet cell data?

I think this is enough to get you on a nice path:

Sub a()
  Dim btn As Button
  Application.ScreenUpdating = False
  ActiveSheet.Buttons.Delete
  Dim t As Range
  For i = 2 To 6 Step 2
    Set t = ActiveSheet.Range(Cells(i, 3), Cells(i, 3))
    Set btn = ActiveSheet.Buttons.Add(t.Left, t.Top, t.Width, t.Height)
    With btn
      .OnAction = "btnS"
      .Caption = "Btn " & i
      .Name = "Btn" & i
    End With
  Next i
  Application.ScreenUpdating = True
End Sub

Sub btnS()
 MsgBox Application.Caller
End Sub

It creates the buttons and binds them to butnS(). In the btnS() sub, you should show your dialog, etc.

Sass - Converting Hex to RGBa for background opacity

SASS has a built-in rgba() function to evaluate values.

rgba($color, $alpha)

E.g.

rgba(#00aaff, 0.5) => rgba(0, 170, 255, 0.5)

An example using your own variables:

$my-color: #00aaff;
$my-opacity: 0.5;

.my-element {
  color: rgba($my-color, $my-opacity);
}

Outputs:

.my-element {
  color: rgba(0, 170, 255, 0.5);
}

Formatting code in Notepad++

NPP+ v7.9.1 with the latest version of XMLTools can't format exported VBA code from Office 2016/2019 Word. It puts all the code on the same line since it strips the CRLF out. Moreover, when you enable "auto validation" it errors out on the first VBA line that is, Attribute VB_Name = "The VBA module name". So any of the xml tool validations apparently can't be used for VBA validation.

StringBuilder vs String concatenation in toString() in Java

Performance wise String concatenation using '+' is costlier because it has to make a whole new copy of String since Strings are immutable in java. This plays particular role if concatenation is very frequent, eg: inside a loop. Following is what my IDEA suggests when I attempt to do such a thing:

enter image description here

General Rules:

  • Within a single string assignment, using String concatenation is fine.
  • If you're looping to build up a large block of character data, go for StringBuffer.
  • Using += on a String is always going to be less efficient than using a StringBuffer, so it should ring warning bells - but in certain cases the optimisation gained will be negligible compared with the readability issues, so use your common sense.

Here is a nice Jon Skeet blog around this topic.

Python constructor and default value

Let's illustrate what's happening here:

Python 3.1.2 (r312:79147, Sep 27 2010, 09:45:41)
[GCC 4.4.3] on linux2
Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information.
>>> class Foo:
...     def __init__(self, x=[]):
...         x.append(1)
...
>>> Foo.__init__.__defaults__
([],)
>>> f = Foo()
>>> Foo.__init__.__defaults__
([1],)
>>> f2 = Foo()
>>> Foo.__init__.__defaults__
([1, 1],)

You can see that the default arguments are stored in a tuple which is an attribute of the function in question. This actually has nothing to do with the class in question and goes for any function. In python 2, the attribute will be func.func_defaults.

As other posters have pointed out, you probably want to use None as a sentinel value and give each instance it's own list.

Java how to replace 2 or more spaces with single space in string and delete leading and trailing spaces

Please use below code

package com.myjava.string;

        StringBuffer sb = new StringBuffer();

        while(st.hasMoreElements()){
            sb.append(st.nextElement()).append(" ");
        }

        System.out.println(sb.toString().trim());

Is it bad practice to use break to exit a loop in Java?

If you start to do something like this, then I would say it starts to get a bit strange and you're better off moving it to a seperate method that returns a result upon the matchedCondition.

boolean matched = false;
for(int i = 0; i < 10; i++) {
    for(int j = 0; j < 10; j++) {
        if(matchedCondition) {
            matched = true;
            break;
        }
    }
    if(matched) {
        break;
    }
}

To elaborate on how to clean up the above code, you can refactor, moving the code to a function that returns instead of using breaks. This is in general, better dealing with complex/messy breaks.

public boolean  matches()
    for(int i = 0; i < 10; i++) {
        for(int j = 0; j < 10; j++) {
            if(matchedCondition) {
                return true;
            }
        }
    }
    return false;
}

However for something simple like my below example. By all means use break!

for(int i = 0; i < 10; i++) {
    if(wereDoneHere()) { // we're done, break.
        break;
    }
}

And changing the conditions, in the above case i, and j's value, you would just make the code really hard to read. Also there could be a case where the upper limits (10 in the example) are variables so then it would be even harder to guess what value to set it to in order to exit the loop. You could of course just set i and j to Integer.MAX_VALUE, but I think you can see this starts to get messy very quickly. :)

Material Design not styling alert dialogs

Try this library:

https://github.com/avast/android-styled-dialogs

It's based on DialogFragments instead of AlertDialogs (like the one from @afollestad). The main advantage: Dialogs don't dismiss after rotation and callbacks still work.

Parsing string as JSON with single quotes?

obj = JSON.parse(str);
console.log(obj);

Import module from subfolder

There's no need to mess with your PYTHONPATH or sys.path here.

To properly use absolute imports in a package you should include the "root" packagename as well, e.g.:

from dirFoo.dirFoo1.foo1 import Foo1
from dirFoo.dirFoo2.foo2 import Foo2

Or you can use relative imports:

from .dirfoo1.foo1 import Foo1
from .dirfoo2.foo2 import Foo2

When is JavaScript synchronous?

JavaScript is single threaded and has a synchronous execution model. Single threaded means that one command is being executed at a time. Synchronous means one at a time i.e. one line of code is being executed at time in order the code appears. So in JavaScript one thing is happening at a time.

Execution Context

The JavaScript engine interacts with other engines in the browser. In the JavaScript execution stack there is global context at the bottom and then when we invoke functions the JavaScript engine creates new execution contexts for respective functions. When the called function exits its execution context is popped from the stack, and then next execution context is popped and so on...

For example

function abc()
{
   console.log('abc');
}

function xyz()
{
   abc()
   console.log('xyz');
}
var one = 1;
xyz();

In the above code a global execution context will be created and in this context var one will be stored and its value will be 1... when the xyz() invocation is called then a new execution context will be created and if we had defined any variable in xyz function those variables would be stored in the execution context of xyz(). In the xyz function we invoke abc() and then the abc() execution context is created and put on the execution stack... Now when abc() finishes its context is popped from stack, then the xyz() context is popped from stack and then global context will be popped...

Now about asynchronous callbacks; asynchronous means more than one at a time.

Just like the execution stack there is the Event Queue. When we want to be notified about some event in the JavaScript engine we can listen to that event, and that event is placed on the queue. For example an Ajax request event, or HTTP request event.

Whenever the execution stack is empty, like shown in above code example, the JavaScript engine periodically looks at the event queue and sees if there is any event to be notified about. For example in the queue there were two events, an ajax request and a HTTP request. It also looks to see if there is a function which needs to be run on that event trigger... So the JavaScript engine is notified about the event and knows the respective function to execute on that event... So the JavaScript engine invokes the handler function, in the example case, e.g. AjaxHandler() will be invoked and like always when a function is invoked its execution context is placed on the execution context and now the function execution finishes and the event ajax request is also removed from the event queue... When AjaxHandler() finishes the execution stack is empty so the engine again looks at the event queue and runs the event handler function of HTTP request which was next in queue. It is important to remember that the event queue is processed only when execution stack is empty.

For example see the code below explaining the execution stack and event queue handling by Javascript engine.

function waitfunction() {
    var a = 5000 + new Date().getTime();
    while (new Date() < a){}
    console.log('waitfunction() context will be popped after this line');
}

function clickHandler() {
    console.log('click event handler...');
}

document.addEventListener('click', clickHandler);

waitfunction(); //a new context for this function is created and placed on the execution stack
console.log('global context will be popped after this line');

And

<html>
    <head>

    </head>
    <body>

        <script src="program.js"></script>
    </body>
</html>

Now run the webpage and click on the page, and see the output on console. The output will be

waitfunction() context will be popped after this line
global context will be emptied after this line
click event handler...

The JavaScript engine is running the code synchronously as explained in the execution context portion, the browser is asynchronously putting things in event queue. So the functions which take a very long time to complete can interrupt event handling. Things happening in a browser like events are handled this way by JavaScript, if there is a listener supposed to run, the engine will run it when the execution stack is empty. And events are processed in the order they happen, so the asynchronous part is about what is happening outside the engine i.e. what should the engine do when those outside events happen.

So JavaScript is always synchronous.

excel delete row if column contains value from to-remove-list

Given sheet 2:

ColumnA
-------
apple
orange

You can flag the rows in sheet 1 where a value exists in sheet 2:

ColumnA  ColumnB
-------  --------------
pear     =IF(ISERROR(VLOOKUP(A1,Sheet2!A:A,1,FALSE)),"Keep","Delete")
apple    =IF(ISERROR(VLOOKUP(A2,Sheet2!A:A,1,FALSE)),"Keep","Delete")
cherry   =IF(ISERROR(VLOOKUP(A3,Sheet2!A:A,1,FALSE)),"Keep","Delete")
orange   =IF(ISERROR(VLOOKUP(A4,Sheet2!A:A,1,FALSE)),"Keep","Delete")
plum     =IF(ISERROR(VLOOKUP(A5,Sheet2!A:A,1,FALSE)),"Keep","Delete")

The resulting data looks like this:

ColumnA  ColumnB
-------  --------------
pear     Keep
apple    Delete
cherry   Keep
orange   Delete
plum     Keep

You can then easily filter or sort sheet 1 and delete the rows flagged with 'Delete'.

Swift apply .uppercaseString to only the first letter of a string

Swift 2.0 (Single line):

String(nameOfString.characters.prefix(1)).uppercaseString + String(nameOfString.characters.dropFirst())

Oracle to_date, from mm/dd/yyyy to dd-mm-yyyy

I suggest you use TO_CHAR() when converting to string. In order to do that, you need to build a date first.

SELECT TO_CHAR(TO_DATE(DAY||'-'||MONTH||'-'||YEAR, 'dd-mm-yyyy'), 'dd-mm-yyyy') AS FORMATTED_DATE
FROM
    (SELECT EXTRACT( DAY FROM
        (SELECT TO_DATE('1/21/2000', 'mm/dd/yyyy')
        FROM DUAL
        )) AS DAY, TO_NUMBER(EXTRACT( MONTH FROM
        (SELECT TO_DATE('1/21/2000', 'mm/dd/yyyy') FROM DUAL
        )), 09) AS MONTH, EXTRACT(YEAR FROM
        (SELECT TO_DATE('1/21/2000', 'mm/dd/yyyy') FROM DUAL
        )) AS YEAR
    FROM DUAL
    );

Why did Servlet.service() for servlet jsp throw this exception?

I had this error; it happened somewhat spontaneously, and the page would halt in the browser in the middle of an HTML tag (not a section of code). It was baffling!

Turns out, I let a variable go out of scope and the garbage collector swept it away and then I tried to use it. Thus the seemingly-random timing.

To give a more concrete example... Inside a method, I had something like:

Foo[] foos = new Foo[20];
// fill up the "foos" array...
return Arrays.asList(foos); // this returns type List<Foo>

Now in my JSP page, I called that method and used the List object returned by it. The List object is backed by that "foos" array; but, the array went out of scope when I returned from the method (since it is a local variable). So shortly after returning, the garbage collector swept away the "foos" array, and my access to the List caused a NullPointerException since its underlying array was now wiped away.

I actually wondered, as I wrote the above method, whether that would happen.

The even deeper underlying problem was premature optimization. I wanted a list, but I knew I would have exactly 20 elements, so I figured I'd try to be more efficient than new ArrayList<Foo>(20) which only sets an initial size of 20 but can possibly be less efficient than the method I used. So of course, to fix it, I just created my ArrayList, filled it up, and returned it. No more strange error.

How can I loop over entries in JSON?

Actually, to query the team_name, just add it in brackets to the last line. Apart from that, it seems to work on Python 2.7.3 on command line.

from urllib2 import urlopen
import json

url = 'http://openligadb-json.heroku.com/api/teams_by_league_saison?league_saison=2012&league_shortcut=bl1'
response = urlopen(url)
json_obj = json.load(response)

for i in json_obj['team']:
    print i['team_name']

Creating a textarea with auto-resize

MakeTextAreaResisable that uses qQuery

function MakeTextAreaResisable(id) {
    var o = $(id);
    o.css("overflow-y", "hidden");

    function ResizeTextArea() {
        o.height('auto');
        o.height(o[0].scrollHeight);
    }

    o.on('change', function (e) {
        ResizeTextArea();
    });

    o.on('cut paste drop keydown', function (e) {
        window.setTimeout(ResizeTextArea, 0);
    });

    o.focus();
    o.select();
    ResizeTextArea();
}

Extract the filename from a path

You can try this:

[System.IO.FileInfo]$path = "D:\Server\User\CUST\MEA\Data\In\Files\CORRECTED\CUST_MEAFile.csv"
# Returns name and extension
$path.Name
# Returns just name
$path.BaseName

Check if string contains \n Java

For portability, you really should do something like this:

public static final String NEW_LINE = System.getProperty("line.separator")
.
.
.
word.contains(NEW_LINE);

unless you're absolutely certain that "\n" is what you want.

How to see which flags -march=native will activate?

It should be (-### is similar to -v):

echo | gcc -### -E - -march=native

To show the "real" native flags for gcc.

You can make them appear more "clearly" with a command:

gcc -### -E - -march=native 2>&1 | sed -r '/cc1/!d;s/(")|(^.* - )//g'

and you can get rid of flags with -mno-* with:

gcc -### -E - -march=native 2>&1 | sed -r '/cc1/!d;s/(")|(^.* - )|( -mno-[^\ ]+)//g'

How do I specify "close existing connections" in sql script

        using (System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection connection = new System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection(ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["DBRestore"].ConnectionString))
        {
            connection.Open();

feel free to play with flex-basis percentage to get more customized space.

Bootstrap - floating navbar button right

In bootstrap 4 use:

<ul class="nav navbar-nav ml-auto">

This will push the navbar to the right. Use mr-auto to push it to the left, this is the default behaviour.

How to delete row based on cell value

The screenshot was very helpful - the following code will do the job (assuming data is located in column A starting A1):

Sub RemoveRows()

Dim i As Long

i = 1

Do While i <= ThisWorkbook.ActiveSheet.Range("A1").CurrentRegion.Rows.Count

    If InStr(1, ThisWorkbook.ActiveSheet.Cells(i, 1).Text, "-", vbTextCompare) > 0 Then
        ThisWorkbook.ActiveSheet.Cells(i, 1).EntireRow.Delete
    Else
        i = i + 1
    End If

Loop

End Sub

How to get the previous URL in JavaScript?

If you are writing a web app or single page application (SPA) where routing takes place in the app/browser rather than a round-trip to the server, you can do the following:

window.history.pushState({ prevUrl: window.location.href }, null, "/new/path/in/your/app")

Then, in your new route, you can do the following to retrieve the previous URL:

window.history.state.prevUrl // your previous url
