Equivalent of Super Keyword in C#

C# equivalent of your code is

  class Imagedata : PDFStreamEngine
  {
     // C# uses "base" keyword whenever Java uses "super"
     // so instead of super(...) in Java we should call its C# equivalent (base):
     public Imagedata()
       : base(ResourceLoader.loadProperties("org/apache/pdfbox/resources/PDFTextStripper.properties", true))
     { }

     // Java methods are virtual by default, when C# methods aren't.
     // So we should be sure that processOperator method in base class
     // (that is PDFStreamEngine)
     // declared as "virtual"
     protected override void processOperator(PDFOperator operations, List arguments)
     {
        base.processOperator(operations, arguments);
     }
  }

Running a single test from unittest.TestCase via the command line

If you check out the help of the unittest module it tells you about several combinations that allow you to run test case classes from a module and test methods from a test case class.

python3 -m unittest -h

[...]

Examples:
  python3 -m unittest test_module               - run tests from test_module
  python3 -m unittest module.TestClass          - run tests from module.TestClass
  python3 -m unittest module.Class.test_method  - run specified test method
```lang-none
It does not require you to define a `unittest.main()` as the default behaviour of your module.
How to get current local date and time in Kotlin
I use this to fetch data from API every 20 seconds
 private fun isFetchNeeded(savedAt: Long): Boolean {
        return savedAt + 20000 < System.currentTimeMillis()
    }
How to shift a column in Pandas DataFrame
Trying to answer a personal problem and similar to yours I found on Pandas Doc what I think would answer this question:
DataFrame.shift(periods=1, freq=None, axis=0) Shift index by desired number of periods with an optional time freq
Notes
If freq is specified then the index values are shifted but the data is not realigned. That is, use freq if you would like to extend the index when shifting and preserve the original data.
Hope to help future questions in this matter.
Windows recursive grep command-line
Select-String worked best for me. All the other options listed here, such as findstr, didn't work with large files.
Here's an example:
select-string -pattern "<pattern>" -path "<path>"
note: This requires Powershell
how to add super privileges to mysql database?
On Centos 5 I was getting all sorts of errors trying to make changes to some variable values from the MySQL shell, after having logged in with the proper uid and pw (with root access). The error that I was getting was something like this:
mysql> -- Set some variable value, for example
mysql> SET GLOBAL general_log='ON';
ERROR 1227 (42000): Access denied; you need (at least one of) the SUPER privilege(s) for this operation
In a moment of extreme serendipity I did the following:
OS-Shell> sudo mysql                          # no DB uid, no DB pw
Kindly note that I did not provide the DB uid and password
mysql> show variables;
mysql> -- edit the variable of interest to the desired value, for example
mysql> SET GLOBAL general_log='ON';
It worked like a charm
Create pandas Dataframe by appending one row at a time
Figured out a simple and nice way:
>>> df
     A  B  C
one  1  2  3
>>> df.loc["two"] = [4,5,6]
>>> df
     A  B  C
one  1  2  3
two  4  5  6
Note the caveat with performance as noted in the comments
Android: No Activity found to handle Intent error? How it will resolve
Add the below to your manifest:
  <activity   android:name=".AppPreferenceActivity" android:label="@string/app_name">
     <intent-filter>
       <action android:name="com.scytec.datamobile.vd.gui.android.AppPreferenceActivity" />
       <category android:name="android.intent.category.DEFAULT" />
     </intent-filter>
  </activity>
How can I use the apply() function for a single column?
You don't need a function at all. You can work on a whole column directly.
Example data:
>>> df = pd.DataFrame({'a': [100, 1000], 'b': [200, 2000], 'c': [300, 3000]})
>>> df
      a     b     c
0   100   200   300
1  1000  2000  3000
Half all the values in column a:
>>> df.a = df.a / 2
>>> df
     a     b     c
0   50   200   300
1  500  2000  3000
Laravel Check If Related Model Exists
As Hemerson Varela already said in Php 7.1 count(null) will throw an error and hasOne returns null if no row exists. Since you have a hasOnerelation I would use the empty method to check:
$model = RepairItem::find($id);
if (!empty($temp = $request->input('option'))) {
   $option = $model->option;
   if(empty($option)){
      $option = $model->option()->create();
   }
   $option->someAttribute = temp;
   $option->save();
};
But this is superfluous. There is no need to check if the relation exists, to determine if you should do an update or a create call. Simply use the updateOrCreate method. This is equivalent to the above:
$model = RepairItem::find($id);
if (!empty($temp = $request->input('option'))) {
   $model->option()
         ->updateOrCreate(['repair_item_id' => $model->id],
                          ['option' => $temp]);
}
Using Font Awesome icon for bullet points, with a single list item element
There's an example of how to use Font Awesome alongside an unordered list on their examples page.
<ul class="icons">
  <li><i class="icon-ok"></i> Lists</li>
  <li><i class="icon-ok"></i> Buttons</li>
  <li><i class="icon-ok"></i> Button groups</li>
  <li><i class="icon-ok"></i> Navigation</li>
  <li><i class="icon-ok"></i> Prepended form inputs</li>
</ul>
If you can't find it working after trying this code then you're not including the library correctly. According to their website, you should include the libraries as such:
<link rel="stylesheet" href="../css/bootstrap.css">
<link rel="stylesheet" href="../css/font-awesome.css">
Also check out the whimsical Chris Coyier's post on icon fonts on his website CSS Tricks.
Here's a screencast by him as well talking about how to create your own icon font-face.
How to do a join in linq to sql with method syntax?
var result = from sc in enumerableOfSomeClass
             join soc in enumerableOfSomeOtherClass
             on sc.Property1 equals soc.Property2
             select new { SomeClass = sc, SomeOtherClass = soc };
Would be equivalent to:
var result = enumerableOfSomeClass
    .Join(enumerableOfSomeOtherClass,
          sc => sc.Property1,
          soc => soc.Property2,
          (sc, soc) => new
                       {
                           SomeClass = sc,
                           SomeOtherClass = soc
                       });
As you can see, when it comes to joins, query syntax is usually much more readable than lambda syntax.
How to SELECT WHERE NOT EXIST using LINQ?
The outcome sql will be different but the result should be the same:
var shifts = Shifts.Where(s => !EmployeeShifts.Where(es => es.ShiftID == s.ShiftID).Any());
return in for loop or outside loop
The code is valid (i.e, will compile and execute) in both cases.
One of my lecturers at Uni told us that it is not desirable to have continue, return statements in any loop - for or while. The reason for this is that when examining the code, it is not not immediately clear whether the full length of the loop will be executed or the return or continue will take effect.
See Why is continue inside a loop a bad idea? for an example.
The key point to keep in mind is that for simple scenarios like this it doesn't (IMO) matter but when you have complex logic determining the return value, the code is 'generally' more readable if you have a single return statement instead of several.
With regards to the Garbage Collection - I have no idea why this would be an issue.
How to print bytes in hexadecimal using System.out.println?
Python truncate a long string
Here's a function I made as part of a new String class... It allows adding a suffix ( if the string is size after trimming and adding it is long enough - although you don't need to force the absolute size )
I was in the process of changing a few things around so there are some useless logic costs ( if _truncate ... for instance ) where it is no longer necessary and there is a return at the top...
But, it is still a good function for truncating data...
##
## Truncate characters of a string after _len'nth char, if necessary... If _len is less than 0, don't truncate anything... Note: If you attach a suffix, and you enable absolute max length then the suffix length is subtracted from max length... Note: If the suffix length is longer than the output then no suffix is used...
##
## Usage: Where _text = 'Testing', _width = 4
##      _data = String.Truncate( _text, _width )                        == Test
##      _data = String.Truncate( _text, _width, '..', True )            == Te..
##
## Equivalent Alternates: Where _text = 'Testing', _width = 4
##      _data = String.SubStr( _text, 0, _width )                       == Test
##      _data = _text[  : _width ]                                      == Test
##      _data = ( _text )[  : _width ]                                  == Test
##
def Truncate( _text, _max_len = -1, _suffix = False, _absolute_max_len = True ):
    ## Length of the string we are considering for truncation
    _len            = len( _text )
    ## Whether or not we have to truncate
    _truncate       = ( False, True )[ _len > _max_len ]
    ## Note: If we don't need to truncate, there's no point in proceeding...
    if ( not _truncate ):
        return _text
    ## The suffix in string form
    _suffix_str     = ( '',  str( _suffix ) )[ _truncate and _suffix != False ]
    ## The suffix length
    _len_suffix     = len( _suffix_str )
    ## Whether or not we add the suffix
    _add_suffix     = ( False, True )[ _truncate and _suffix != False and _max_len > _len_suffix ]
    ## Suffix Offset
    _suffix_offset = _max_len - _len_suffix
    _suffix_offset  = ( _max_len, _suffix_offset )[ _add_suffix and _absolute_max_len != False and _suffix_offset > 0 ]
    ## The truncate point.... If not necessary, then length of string.. If necessary then the max length with or without subtracting the suffix length... Note: It may be easier ( less logic cost ) to simply add the suffix to the calculated point, then truncate - if point is negative then the suffix will be destroyed anyway.
    ## If we don't need to truncate, then the length is the length of the string.. If we do need to truncate, then the length depends on whether we add the suffix and offset the length of the suffix or not...
    _len_truncate   = ( _len, _max_len )[ _truncate ]
    _len_truncate   = ( _len_truncate, _max_len )[ _len_truncate <= _max_len ]
    ## If we add the suffix, add it... Suffix won't be added if the suffix is the same length as the text being output...
    if ( _add_suffix ):
        _text = _text[ 0 : _suffix_offset ] + _suffix_str + _text[ _suffix_offset: ]
    ## Return the text after truncating...
    return _text[ : _len_truncate ]
How to Refresh a Component in Angular
This can be achieved via a hack, Navigate to some sample component and then navigate to the component that you want to reload.
this.router.navigateByUrl('/SampleComponent', { skipLocationChange: true });
Should I use 'has_key()' or 'in' on Python dicts?
Solution to dict.has_key() is deprecated, use 'in' -- sublime text editor 3
Here I have taken an example of dictionary named 'ages' -
ages = {}
# Add a couple of names to the dictionary
ages['Sue'] = 23
ages['Peter'] = 19
ages['Andrew'] = 78
ages['Karren'] = 45
# use of 'in' in if condition instead of function_name.has_key(key-name).
if 'Sue' in ages:
    print "Sue is in the dictionary. She is", ages['Sue'], "years old"
else:
    print "Sue is not in the dictionary"
"Full screen" <iframe>
Adding this to your iframe might resolve the issue:
frameborder="0"  seamless="seamless"
Redefining the Index in a Pandas DataFrame object
Why don't you simply use set_index method?
In : col = ['a','b','c']
In : data = DataFrame([[1,2,3],[10,11,12],[20,21,22]],columns=col)
In : data
Out:
    a   b   c
0   1   2   3
1  10  11  12
2  20  21  22
In : data2 = data.set_index('a')
In : data2
Out:
     b   c
a
1    2   3
10  11  12
20  21  22
UnicodeDecodeError: 'ascii' codec can't decode byte 0xef in position 1
In my case, it was caused by my Unicode file being saved with a "BOM". To solve this, I cracked open the file using BBEdit and did a "Save as..." choosing for encoding "Unicode (UTF-8)" and not what it came with which was "Unicode (UTF-8, with BOM)"
Best XML Parser for PHP
It depends on what you are trying to do with the XML files. If you are just trying to read the XML file (like a configuration file), The Wicked Flea is correct in suggesting SimpleXML since it creates what amounts to nested ArrayObjects. e.g. value will be accessible by $xml->root->child.
If you are looking to manipulate the XML files you're probably best off using DOM XML
Very simple C# CSV reader
Here's a simple function I made. It accepts a string CSV line and returns an array of fields:
It works well with Excel generated CSV files, and many other variations.
    public static string[] ParseCsvRow(string r)
    {
        string[] c;
        string t;
        List<string> resp = new List<string>();
        bool cont = false;
        string cs = "";
        c = r.Split(new char[] { ',' }, StringSplitOptions.None);
        foreach (string y in c)
        {
            string x = y;
            if (cont)
            {
                // End of field
                if (x.EndsWith("\""))
                {
                    cs += "," + x.Substring(0, x.Length - 1);
                    resp.Add(cs);
                    cs = "";
                    cont = false;
                    continue;
                }
                else
                {
                    // Field still not ended
                    cs += "," + x;
                    continue;
                }
            }
            // Fully encapsulated with no comma within
            if (x.StartsWith("\"") && x.EndsWith("\""))
            {
                if ((x.EndsWith("\"\"") && !x.EndsWith("\"\"\"")) && x != "\"\"")
                {
                    cont = true;
                    cs = x;
                    continue;
                }
                resp.Add(x.Substring(1, x.Length - 2));
                continue;
            }
            // Start of encapsulation but comma has split it into at least next field
            if (x.StartsWith("\"") && !x.EndsWith("\""))
            {
                cont = true;
                cs += x.Substring(1);
                continue;
            }
            // Non encapsulated complete field
            resp.Add(x);
        }
        return resp.ToArray();
    }
Twitter bootstrap scrollable table
This is may not a solution for large row count. I simply use duplication table trick to get the thing done for small row count table while it can keep flex column width, you can try this fiddle.
(The fixed width column is the method I use for large row count table which require only the header row duplication)
Sample Code:
<div style="height:30px;overflow:hidden;margin-right:15px;">
   <table class="table">
       <thead>
           <tr>
                <th>Col 1</th>
                <th>Col 2</th>
                <th>Col 3</th>
            </tr>
        </thead>
        <tbody>
            <tr>
                <td>Cel 1,1</td>
                <td>Cel 1,2</td>
                <td>Cel 1,3</td>
            </tr>
            <tr>
                <td>Cel 2,1</td>
                <td>Cel 2,2</td>
                <td>Cel 2,3</td>
            </tr>
            <tr>
                <td>Cel 3,1</td>
                <td>Cel 3,2</td>
                <td>Cel 3,3</td>
            </tr>
        </tbody>
    </table>
</div>
<div style="height:100px;overflow-y:scroll;;">
    <table class="table">
        <thead>
        </thead>
        <tbody>
            <tr>
                <td>Cel 1,1</td>
                <td>Cel 1,2</td>
                <td>Cel 1,3</td>
            </tr>
            <tr>
                <td>Cel 2,1</td>
                <td>Cel 2,2</td>
                <td>Cel 2,3</td>
            </tr>
            <tr>
                <td>Cel 3,1</td>
                <td>Cel 3,2</td>
                <td>Cel 3,3</td>
            </tr>
             <tr style="color:white">
                <th>Col 1</th>
                <th>Col 2</th>
                <th>Col 3</th>
            </tr>
        </tbody>
Didn't find class "com.google.firebase.provider.FirebaseInitProvider"?
If you're using Xamarin.Forms you might want to check out Didn't find class "com.google.firebase.provider.FirebaseInitProvider"? as this captures the issue with the dex error with google firebase on startup (unresolved at this time).
I've reverted to using no shrinking in the short-term and plan to use ProGuard until R8 is more stable.
Any tools to generate an XSD schema from an XML instance document?
If all you want is XSD, LiquidXML has a free version that does XSDs, and its got a GUI to it so you can tweak the XSD if you like. Anyways nowadays I write my own XSDs by hand, but its all thanks to this app.
Insert text into textarea with jQuery
I like the jQuery function extension. However, the this refers to the jQuery object not the DOM object. So I've modified it a little to make it even better (can update in multiple textboxes / textareas at once).
jQuery.fn.extend({
insertAtCaret: function(myValue){
  return this.each(function(i) {
    if (document.selection) {
      //For browsers like Internet Explorer
      this.focus();
      var sel = document.selection.createRange();
      sel.text = myValue;
      this.focus();
    }
    else if (this.selectionStart || this.selectionStart == '0') {
      //For browsers like Firefox and Webkit based
      var startPos = this.selectionStart;
      var endPos = this.selectionEnd;
      var scrollTop = this.scrollTop;
      this.value = this.value.substring(0, startPos)+myValue+this.value.substring(endPos,this.value.length);
      this.focus();
      this.selectionStart = startPos + myValue.length;
      this.selectionEnd = startPos + myValue.length;
      this.scrollTop = scrollTop;
    } else {
      this.value += myValue;
      this.focus();
    }
  });
}
});
This works really well. You can insert into multiple places at once, like:
$('#element1, #element2, #element3, .class-of-elements').insertAtCaret('text');
Socket.IO handling disconnect event
You can also, if you like use socket id to manage your player list like this.
io.on('connection', function(socket){
  socket.on('disconnect', function() {
    console.log("disconnect")
    for(var i = 0; i < onlineplayers.length; i++ ){
      if(onlineplayers[i].socket === socket.id){
        console.log(onlineplayers[i].code + " just disconnected")
        onlineplayers.splice(i, 1)
      }
    }
    io.emit('players', onlineplayers)
  })
  socket.on('lobby_join', function(player) {
    if(player.available === false) return
    var exists = false
    for(var i = 0; i < onlineplayers.length; i++ ){
      if(onlineplayers[i].code === player.code){
        exists = true
      }
    }
    if(exists === false){
      onlineplayers.push({
        code: player.code,
        socket:socket.id
      })
    }
    io.emit('players', onlineplayers)
  })
  socket.on('lobby_leave', function(player) {
    var exists = false
ActionLink htmlAttributes
The problem is that your anonymous object property data-icon has an invalid name. C# properties cannot have dashes in their names. There are two ways you can get around that:
Use an underscore instead of dash (MVC will automatically replace the underscore with a dash in the emitted HTML):
@Html.ActionLink("Edit", "edit", "markets",
      new { id = 1 },
      new {@class="ui-btn-right", data_icon="gear"})
Use the overload that takes in a dictionary:
@Html.ActionLink("Edit", "edit", "markets",
      new { id = 1 },
      new Dictionary<string, object> { { "class", "ui-btn-right" }, { "data-icon", "gear" } });
How to calculate rolling / moving average using NumPy / SciPy?
This answer using Pandas is adapted from above, as rolling_mean is not part of Pandas anymore
# the recommended syntax to import pandas
import pandas as pd
import numpy as np
# prepare some fake data:
# the date-time indices:
t = pd.date_range('1/1/2010', '12/31/2012', freq='D')
# the data:
x = np.arange(0, t.shape[0])
# combine the data & index into a Pandas 'Series' object
D = pd.Series(x, t)
Now, just call the function rolling on the dataframe with a window size, which in my example below is 10 days.
d_mva10 = D.rolling(10).mean()
# d_mva is the same size as the original Series
# though obviously the first w values are NaN where w is the window size
d_mva10[:11]
2010-01-01    NaN
2010-01-02    NaN
2010-01-03    NaN
2010-01-04    NaN
2010-01-05    NaN
2010-01-06    NaN
2010-01-07    NaN
2010-01-08    NaN
2010-01-09    NaN
2010-01-10    4.5
2010-01-11    5.5
Freq: D, dtype: float64
Gradle - Could not find or load main class
Modify build.gradle to put your main class in the manifest:
jar {
    manifest {
        attributes 'Implementation-Title': 'Gradle Quickstart',
                   'Implementation-Version': version,
                   'Main-Class': 'hello.helloWorld'
    }
}
req.query and req.param in ExpressJS
req.query is the query string sent to the server, example /page?test=1, req.param is the parameters passed to the handler.
app.get('/user/:id', handler);, going to /user/blah, req.param.id would return blah;
TypeScript Objects as Dictionary types as in C#
In addition to using an map-like object, there has been an actual Map object for some time now, which is available in TypeScript when compiling to ES6, or when using a polyfill with the ES6 type-definitions:
let people = new Map<string, Person>();
It supports the same functionality as Object, and more, with a slightly different syntax:
// Adding an item (a key-value pair):
people.set("John", { firstName: "John", lastName: "Doe" });
// Checking for the presence of a key:
people.has("John"); // true
// Retrieving a value by a key:
people.get("John").lastName; // "Doe"
// Deleting an item by a key:
people.delete("John");
This alone has several advantages over using a map-like object, such as:
  • Support for non-string based keys, e.g. numbers or objects, neither of which are supported by Object (no, Object does not support numbers, it converts them to strings)
  • Less room for errors when not using --noImplicitAny, as a Map always has a key type and a value type, whereas an object might not have an index-signature
  • The functionality of adding/removing items (key-value pairs) is optimized for the task, unlike creating properties on an Object
Additionally, a Map object provides a more powerful and elegant API for common tasks, most of which are not available through simple Objects without hacking together helper functions (although some of these require a full ES6 iterator/iterable polyfill for ES5 targets or below):
// Iterate over Map entries:
people.forEach((person, key) => ...);
// Clear the Map:
people.clear();
// Get Map size:
people.size;
// Extract keys into array (in insertion order):
let keys = Array.from(people.keys());
// Extract values into array (in insertion order):
let values = Array.from(people.values());
ORACLE IIF Statement
Oracle doesn't provide such IIF Function. Instead, try using one of the following alternatives:
SELECT DECODE(EMP_ID, 1, 'True', 'False') from Employee
CASE Function:
SELECT CASE WHEN EMP_ID = 1 THEN 'True' ELSE 'False' END from Employee
How to Get enum item name from its value
How can I get the item name "Mon, Tue, etc" when I already have the item value "0, 1, etc."
On some older C code (quite some time ago), I found code analogous to:
std::string weekEnumToStr(int n)
{
   std::string s("unknown");
   switch (n)
   {
   case 0: { s = "Mon"; } break;
   case 1: { s = "Tue"; } break;
   case 2: { s = "Wed"; } break;
   case 3: { s = "Thu"; } break;
   case 4: { s = "Fri"; } break;
   case 5: { s = "Sat"; } break;
   case 6: { s = "Sun"; } break;
   }
   return s;
}
Con: This establishes a "pathological dependency" between the enumeration values and the function... meaning if you change the enum you must change the function to match. I suppose this is true even for a std::map.
I vaguely remember we found a utility to generate the function code from the enum code. The enum table length had grown to several hundred ... and at some point it is maybe a sound choice to write code to write code.
Note -
in an embedded system enhancement effort, my team replaced many tables (100+?) of null-terminated-strings used to map enum int values to their text strings.
The problem with the tables was that a value out of range was often not noticed because many of these tables were gathered into one region of code / memory, such that a value out-of-range reached past the named table end(s) and returned a null-terminated-string from some subsequent table.
Using the function-with-switch statement also allowed us to add an assert in the default clause of the switch. The asserts found several more coding errors during test, and our asserts were tied into a static-ram-system-log our field techs could search.
Set default host and port for ng serve in config file
We have two ways to change default port number in Angular.
First way is by CLI command:
ng serve --port 2400 --open
Second way is by configuration at the location:
iPhone App Development on Ubuntu
Many of the other solutions will work, but they all make use of the open-toolchain for the iPhone SDK. So, yes, you can write software for the iPhone on other platforms... BUT...
Since you specify that you want your app to end up on the App Store, then, no, there's not really any way to do this. There's certainly no time effective way to do this. Even if you only value your own time at $20/hr, it will be far more efficient to buy a used intel Mac, and download the free SDK.
How to dismiss keyboard iOS programmatically when pressing return
The simple way is to connect the delegate of UITextField to self (self.mytestField.delegate = self) and dismiss the keyboard in the method textFieldShouldReturn using [textField resignFirstResponder];
Another way to dismiss the keyboard is the following:
Objective-C
[self.view endEditing:YES];
Swift:
self.view.endEditing(true)
Put [self.view endEditing:YES]; where you would like to dismiss the keyboard (Button event, Touch event, etc.).
How do I push a new local branch to a remote Git repository and track it too?
Prior to the introduction of git push -u, there was no git push option to obtain what you desire. You had to add new configuration statements.
If you create a new branch using:
$ git checkout -b branchB
$ git push origin branchB:branchB
You can use the git config command to avoid editing directly the .git/config file.
$ git config branch.branchB.remote origin
$ git config branch.branchB.merge refs/heads/branchB
Or you can edit manually the .git/config file to had tracking information to this branch.
[branch "branchB"]
    remote = origin
    merge = refs/heads/branchB
How to set opacity to the background color of a div?
I think this covers just about all of the browsers. I have used it successfully in the past.
#div {
    filter: alpha(opacity=50); /* internet explorer */
    -khtml-opacity: 0.5;      /* khtml, old safari */
    -moz-opacity: 0.5;       /* mozilla, netscape */
    opacity: 0.5;           /* fx, safari, opera */
}
Alternate background colors for list items
You can do it by specifying alternating class names on the rows. I prefer using row0 and row1, which means you can easily add them in, if the list is being built programmatically:
for ($i = 0; $i < 10; ++$i) {
    echo '<tr class="row' . ($i % 2) . '">...</tr>';
}
Another way would be to use javascript. jQuery is being used in this example:
$('table tr:odd').addClass('row1');
Edit: I don't know why I gave examples using table rows... replace tr with li and table with ul and it applies to your example
Regular expression to match non-ASCII characters?
This should do it:
[^\x00-\x7F]+
It matches any character which is not contained in the ASCII character set (0-127, i.e. 0x0 to 0x7F).
You can do the same thing with Unicode:
[^\u0000-\u007F]+
For unicode you can look at this 2 resources:
Can you have multiple $(document).ready(function(){ ... }); sections?
It's legal, but sometimes it cause undesired behaviour. As an Example I used the MagicSuggest library and added two MagicSuggest inputs in a page of my project and used seperate document ready functions for each initializations of inputs. The very first Input initialization worked, but not the second one and also not giving any error, Second Input didn't show up. So, I always recommend to use one Document Ready Function.
CONVERT Image url to Base64
I try using the top answer, but it occur Uncaught DOMException: Failed to execute 'toDataURL' on 'HTMLCanvasElement': Tainted canvases may not be exported.
I found this is because of cross domain problems, the solution is
function convert(oldImag, callback) {
    var img = new Image();
    img.onload = function(){
        callback(img)
    }
    img.setAttribute('crossorigin', 'anonymous');
    img.src = oldImag.src;
}
function getBase64Image(img,callback) {
    convert(img, function(newImg){
        var canvas = document.createElement("canvas");
        canvas.width = newImg.width;
        canvas.height = newImg.height;
        var ctx = canvas.getContext("2d");
        ctx.drawImage(newImg, 0, 0);
        var base64=canvas.toDataURL("image/png");
        callback(base64)
    })
}
getBase64Image(document.getElementById("imageid"),function(base64){
// base64 in here.
    console.log(base64)
});
How Should I Declare Foreign Key Relationships Using Code First Entity Framework (4.1) in MVC3?
If you have an Order class, adding a property that references another class in your model, for instance Customer should be enough to let EF know there's a relationship in there:
public class Order
{
    public int ID { get; set; }
    // Some other properties
    // Foreign key to customer
    public virtual Customer Customer { get; set; }
}
You can always set the FK relation explicitly:
public class Order
{
    public int ID { get; set; }
    // Some other properties
    // Foreign key to customer
    [ForeignKey("Customer")]
    public string CustomerID { get; set; }
    public virtual Customer Customer { get; set; }
}
The ForeignKeyAttribute constructor takes a string as a parameter: if you place it on a foreign key property it represents the name of the associated navigation property. If you place it on the navigation property it represents the name of the associated foreign key.
What this means is, if you where to place the ForeignKeyAttribute on the Customer property, the attribute would take CustomerID in the constructor:
public string CustomerID { get; set; }
[ForeignKey("CustomerID")]
public virtual Customer Customer { get; set; }
EDIT based on Latest Code You get that error because of this line:
[ForeignKey("Parent")]
public Patient Patient { get; set; }
EF will look for a property called Parent to use it as the Foreign Key enforcer. You can do 2 things:
1) Remove the ForeignKeyAttribute and replace it with the RequiredAttribute to mark the relation as required:
[Required]
public virtual Patient Patient { get; set; }
Decorating a property with the RequiredAttribute also has a nice side effect: The relation in the database is created with ON DELETE CASCADE.
I would also recommend making the property virtual to enable Lazy Loading.
2) Create a property called Parent that will serve as a Foreign Key. In that case it probably makes more sense to call it for instance ParentID (you'll need to change the name in the ForeignKeyAttribute as well):
public int ParentID { get; set; }
In my experience in this case though it works better to have it the other way around:
[ForeignKey("Patient")]
public int ParentID { get; set; }
public virtual Patient Patient { get; set; }
What is two way binding?
Actually emberjs supports two-way binding, which is one of the most powerful feature for a javascript MVC framework. You can check it out where it mentioning binding in its user guide.
for emberjs, to create two way binding is by creating a new property with the string Binding at the end, then specifying a path from the global scope:
App.wife = Ember.Object.create({
  householdIncome: 80000
});
App.husband = Ember.Object.create({
  householdIncomeBinding: 'App.wife.householdIncome'
});
App.husband.get('householdIncome'); // 80000
// Someone gets raise.
App.husband.set('householdIncome', 90000);
App.wife.get('householdIncome'); // 90000
Note that bindings don't update immediately. Ember waits until all of your application code has finished running before synchronizing changes, so you can change a bound property as many times as you'd like without worrying about the overhead of syncing bindings when values are transient.
Hope it helps in extend of original answer selected.
How to change the default collation of a table?
MySQL has 4 levels of collation: server, database, table, column. If you change the collation of the server, database or table, you don't change the setting for each column, but you change the default collations.
E.g if you change the default collation of a database, each new table you create in that database will use that collation, and if you change the default collation of a table, each column you create in that table will get that collation.
Hexadecimal to Integer in Java
I finally find answers to my question based on all of your comments. Thanks, I tried this :
public Integer calculateHash(String uuid) {
    try {
        //....
        String hex = hexToString(output);
        //Integer i = Integer.valueOf(hex, 16).intValue();
        //Instead of using Integer, I used BigInteger and I returned the int value.
        BigInteger bi = new BigInteger(hex, 16);
        return bi.intValue();`
    } catch (NoSuchAlgorithmException e) {
        System.out.println("SHA1 not implemented in this system");
    }
    //....
}
This solution is not optimal but I can continue with my project. Thanks again for your help
Creating a selector from a method name with parameters
Beyond what's been said already about selectors, you may want to look at the NSInvocation class.
An NSInvocation is an Objective-C message rendered static, that is, it is an action turned into an object. NSInvocation objects are used to store and forward messages between objects and between applications, primarily by NSTimer objects and the distributed objects system.
An NSInvocation object contains all the elements of an Objective-C message: a target, a selector, arguments, and the return value. Each of these elements can be set directly, and the return value is set automatically when the NSInvocation object is dispatched.
Keep in mind that while it's useful in certain situations, you don't use NSInvocation in a normal day of coding. If you're just trying to get two objects to talk to each other, consider defining an informal or formal delegate protocol, or passing a selector and target object as has already been mentioned.
jQuery: keyPress Backspace won't fire?
According to the jQuery documentation for .keypress(), it does not catch non-printable characters, so backspace will not work on keypress, but it is caught in keydown and keyup:
The keypress event is sent to an element when the browser registers keyboard input. This is similar to the keydown event, except that modifier and non-printing keys such as Shift, Esc, and delete trigger keydown events but not keypress events. Other differences between the two events may arise depending on platform and browser. (https://api.jquery.com/keypress/)
In some instances keyup isn't desired or has other undesirable effects and keydown is sufficient, so one way to handle this is to use keydown to catch all keystrokes then set a timeout of a short interval so that the key is entered, then do processing in there after.
jQuery(el).keydown( function() {
    var that = this; setTimeout( function(){
           /** Code that processes backspace, etc. **/
     }, 100 );
 } );
Mocking a class: Mock() or patch()?
Key points which explain difference and provide guidance upon working with unittest.mock
  1. Use Mock if you want to replace some interface elements(passing args) of the object under test
  2. Use patch if you want to replace internal call to some objects and imported modules of the object under test
  3. Always provide spec from the object you are mocking
    • With patch you can always provide autospec
    • With Mock you can provide spec
    • Instead of Mock, you can use create_autospec, which intended to create Mock objects with specification.
In the question above the right answer would be to use Mock, or to be more precise create_autospec (because it will add spec to the mock methods of the class you are mocking), the defined spec on the mock will be helpful in case of an attempt to call method of the class which doesn't exists ( regardless signature), please see some
from unittest import TestCase
from unittest.mock import Mock, create_autospec, patch
class MyClass:
    @staticmethod
    def method(foo, bar):
        print(foo)
def something(some_class: MyClass):
    arg = 1
    # Would fail becuase of wrong parameters passed to methd.
    return some_class.method(arg)
def second(some_class: MyClass):
    arg = 1
    return some_class.unexisted_method(arg)
class TestSomethingTestCase(TestCase):
    def test_something_with_autospec(self):
        mock = create_autospec(MyClass)
        mock.method.return_value = True
        # Fails because of signature misuse.
        result = second(mock)
        self.assertTrue(result)
        self.assertTrue(mock.unexisted_method.called)
The test cases with defined spec used fail because methods called from something and second functions aren't complaint with MyClass, which means - they catch bugs, whereas default Mock will display.
As a side note there is one more option: use patch.object to mock just the class method which is called with.
The good use cases for patch would be the case when the class is used as inner part of function:
def something():
    arg = 1
    return MyClass.method(arg)
Then you will want to use patch as a decorator to mock the MyClass.
Is there a Java equivalent or methodology for the typedef keyword in C++?
As others have mentioned before,
There is no typedef mechanism in Java.
I also do not support "fake classes" in general, but there should not be a general strict rule of thumb here:
If your code for example uses over and over and over a "generic based type" for example:
Map<String, List<Integer>>
You should definitely consider having a subclass for that purpose.
Another approach one can consider, is for example to have in your code a deceleration like:
//@Alias Map<String, List<Integer>>  NameToNumbers;
And then use in your code NameToNumbers and have a pre compiler task (ANT/Gradle/Maven) to process and generate relevant java code.
I know that to some of the readers of this answer this might sound strange, but this is how many frameworks implemented "annotations" prior to JDK 5, this is what project lombok is doing and other frameworks.
Where are include files stored - Ubuntu Linux, GCC
Karl answered your search-path question, but as far as the "source of the files" goes, one thing to be aware of is that if you install the libfoo package and want to do some development with it (i.e., use its headers), you will also need to install libfoo-dev. The standard library header files are already in /usr/include, as you saw.
Note that some libraries with a lot of headers will install them to a subdirectory, e.g., /usr/include/openssl. To include one of those, just provide the path without the /usr/include part, for example:
#include <openssl/aes.h>
How can I use JQuery to post JSON data?
You're passing an object, not a JSON string. When you pass an object, jQuery uses $.param to serialize the object into name-value pairs.
If you pass the data as a string, it won't be serialized:
$.ajax({
    type: 'POST',
    url: '/form/',
    data: '{"name":"jonas"}', // or JSON.stringify ({name: 'jonas'}),
    success: function(data) { alert('data: ' + data); },
    contentType: "application/json",
    dataType: 'json'
});
Delete element in a slice
Rather than thinking of the indices in the [a:]-, [:b]- and [a:b]-notations as element indices, think of them as the indices of the gaps around and between the elements, starting with gap indexed 0 before the element indexed as 0.
enter image description here
Looking at just the blue numbers, it's much easier to see what is going on: [0:3] encloses everything, [3:3] is empty and [1:2] would yield {"B"}. Then [a:] is just the short version of [a:len(arrayOrSlice)], [:b] the short version of [0:b] and [:] the short version of [0:len(arrayOrSlice)]. The latter is commonly used to turn an array into a slice when needed.
Git Symlinks in Windows
2020 Answer
  1. Enable "Developer mode" in Windows 10 -- gives mklink permissions
  2. Ensure symlinks are enabled in git
    • git config --global core.symlinks true
    • or check the checkbox when installing msysgit
Switching branches will force the recreation of missing symlinks.
Be careful, support for Symlinks in git on Windows is relatively new. There are some bugs that still affect some git clients. Notably, symlinks with relative (..) paths are mangled in some programs because of a fixed regression in libgit2. GitKraken is affected by this, for instance.
Best practice multi language website
Topic's premise
There are three distinct aspects in a multilingual site:
  • interface translation
  • content
  • url routing
While they all interconnected in different ways, from CMS point of view they are managed using different UI elements and stored differently. You seem to be confident in your implementation and understanding of the first two. The question was about the latter aspect - "URL Translation? Should we do this or not? and in what way?"
What the URL can be made of?
A very important thing is, don't get fancy with IDN. Instead favor transliteration (also: transcription and romanization). While at first glance IDN seems viable option for international URLs, it actually does not work as advertised for two reasons:
  • some browsers will turn the non-ASCII chars like '?' or 'ž' into '%D1%87' and '%C5%BE'
  • if user has custom themes, the theme's font is very likely to not have symbols for those letters
I actually tried to IDN approach few years ago in a Yii based project (horrible framework, IMHO). I encountered both of the above mentioned problems before scraping that solution. Also, I suspect that it might be an attack vector.
Available options ... as I see them.
Basically you have two choices, that could be abstracted as:
  • http://site.tld/[:query]: where [:query] determines both language and content choice
  • http://site.tld/[:language]/[:query]: where [:language] part of URL defines the choice of language and [:query] is used only to identify the content
Query is ? and O ..
Lets say you pick http://site.tld/[:query].
In that case you have one primary source of language: the content of [:query] segment; and two additional sources:
  • value $_COOKIE['lang'] for that particular browser
  • list of languages in HTTP Accept-Language (1), (2) header
First, you need to match the query to one of defined routing patterns (if your pick is Laravel, then read here). On successful match of pattern you then need to find the language.
You would have to go through all the segments of the pattern. Find the potential translations for all of those segments and determine which language was used. The two additional sources (cookie and header) would be used to resolve routing conflicts, when (not "if") they arise.
Take for example: http://site.tld/blog/novinka.
That's transliteration of "????, ???????", that in English means approximately "blog", "latest".
As you can already notice, in Russian "????" will be transliterated as "blog". Which means that for the first part of [:query] you (in the best case scenario) will end up with ['en', 'ru'] list of possible languages. Then you take next segment - "novinka". That might have only one language on the list of possibilities: ['ru'].
When the list has one item, you have successfully found the language.
But if you end up with 2 (example: Russian and Ukrainian) or more possibilities .. or 0 possibilities, as a case might be. You will have to use cookie and/or header to find the correct option.
And if all else fails, you pick the site's default language.
Language as parameter
The alternative is to use URL, that can be defined as http://site.tld/[:language]/[:query]. In this case, when translating query, you do not need to guess the language, because at that point you already know which to use.
There is also a secondary source of language: the cookie value. But here there is no point in messing with Accept-Language header, because you are not dealing with unknown amount of possible languages in case of "cold start" (when user first time opens site with custom query).
Instead you have 3 simple, prioritized options:
  1. if [:language] segment is set, use it
  2. if $_COOKIE['lang'] is set, use it
  3. use default language
When you have the language, you simply attempt to translate the query, and if translation fails, use the "default value" for that particular segment (based on routing results).
Isn't here a third option?
Yes, technically you can combine both approaches, but that would complicate the process and only accommodate people who want to manually change URL of http://site.tld/en/news to http://site.tld/de/news and expect the news page to change to German.
But even this case could probable be mitigated using cookie value (which would contain information about previous choice of language), to implement with less magic and hope.
Which approach to use?
As you might already guessed, I would recommend http://site.tld/[:language]/[:query] as the more sensible option.
Also in real word situation you would have 3rd major part in URL: "title". As in name of the product in online shop or headline of article in news site.
Example: http://site.tld/en/news/article/121415/EU-as-global-reserve-currency
In this case '/news/article/121415' would be the query, and the 'EU-as-global-reserve-currency' is title. Purely for SEO purposes.
Can it be done in Laravel?
Kinda, but not by default.
I am not too familiar with it, but from what I have seen, Laravel uses simple pattern-based routing mechanism. To implement multilingual URLs you will probably have to extend core class(es), because multilingual routing need access to different forms of storage (database, cache and/or configuration files).
It's routed. What now?
As a result of all you would end up with two valuable pieces of information: current language and translated segments of query. These values then can be used to dispatch to the class(es) which will produce the result.
Basically, the following URL: http://site.tld/ru/blog/novinka (or the version without '/ru') gets turned into something like
$parameters = [
   'language' => 'ru',
   'classname' => 'blog',
   'method' => 'latest',
];
Which you just use for dispatching:
$instance = new {$parameter['classname']};
$instance->{'get'.$parameters['method']}( $parameters );
.. or some variation of it, depending on the particular implementation.
VB.NET Empty String Array
Something like:
Dim myArray(9) as String
Would give you an array of 10 String references (each pointing to Nothing).
If you're not sure of the size at declaration time, you can declare a String array like this:
Dim myArray() as String
And then you can point it at a properly-sized array of Strings later:
ReDim myArray(9) as String
ZombieSheep is right about using a List if you don't know the total size and you need to dynamically populate it. In VB.NET that would be:
Dim myList as New List(Of String)
myList.Add("foo")
myList.Add("bar")
And then to get an array from that List:
myList.ToArray()
How to test multiple variables against a value?
Set folder for classpath
Use the command as
java -classpath ".;C:\MyLibs\a\*;D:\MyLibs\b\*" <your-class-name>
The above command will set the mentioned paths to classpath only once for executing the class named TestClass.
If you want to execute more then one classes, then you can follow this
set classpath=".;C:\MyLibs\a\*;D:\MyLibs\b\*"
After this you can execute as many classes as you want just by simply typing
java <your-class-name>
The above command will work till you close the command prompt. But after closing the command prompt, if you will reopen the command prompt and try to execute some classes, then you have to again set the classpath with the help of any of the above two mentioned methods.(First method for executing one class and second one for executing more classes)
If you want to set the classpth only once so that it could work for everytime, then do as follows
1. Right click on "My Computer" icon
2. Go to the "properties"
3. Go to the "Advanced System Settings" or "Advance Settings"
4. Go to the "Environment Variable"
5. Create a new variable at the user variable by giving the information as below
    a.  Variable Name-     classpath
    b.  Variable Value-    .;C:\program files\jdk 1.6.0\bin;C:\MyLibs\a\';C:\MyLibs\b\*
6.Apply this and you are done.
Remember this will work every time. You don't need to explicitly set the classpath again and again.
NOTE: If you want to add some other libs after some day, then don't forget to add a semi-colon at the end of the "variable-value" of the "Environment Variable" and then type the path of your new libs after the semi-colon. Because semi-colon separates the paths of different directories.
Hope this will help you.
TypeError: You provided an invalid object where a stream was expected. You can provide an Observable, Promise, Array, or Iterable
I have been facing this issue when trying to authenticate a user using JSON Web Token. in my case it's related to authentication interceptor.
Sending a request to authenticate a user doesn't have to provide a token since it doesn't exist yet.
Check that your interceptor include this:
if (req.headers.get('No-Auth') == "True")
            return next.handle(req.clone());
And that you provide {'No-Auth':'True'} to your header's request like this:
  authenticateUser(user): Observable<any> {
    const headers = new HttpHeaders({'No-Auth':'True'});
    headers.append('Content-Type', 'application/json');
    return this.httpClient.post(`${this.apiEndpoint}/auth/authenticate`, user, {headers: headers});
  }
how to define ssh private key for servers fetched by dynamic inventory in files
I had a similar issue and solved it with a patch to ec2.py and adding some configuration parameters to ec2.ini. The patch takes the value of ec2_key_name, prefixes it with the ssh_key_path, and adds the ssh_key_suffix to the end, and writes out ansible_ssh_private_key_file as this value.
The following variables have to be added to ec2.ini in a new 'ssh' section (this is optional if the defaults match your environment):
[ssh]
# Set the path and suffix for the ssh keys
ssh_key_path = ~/.ssh
ssh_key_suffix = .pem
Why java.security.NoSuchProviderException No such provider: BC?
you can add security provider by editing java.security by adding security.provider.=org.bouncycastle.jce.provider.BouncyCastleProvider
or add a line in your top of your class
Security.addProvider(new BouncyCastleProvider());
you can use below line to specify provider while specifying algorithms
Cipher cipher = Cipher.getInstance("AES", "SunJCE");
if you are using other provider like Bouncy Castle then
Cipher cipher =  Cipher.getInstance("AES", "BC");
Best practice to look up Java Enum
The error message in IllegalArgumentException is already descriptive enough.
Your method makes a generic exception out of a specific one with the same message simply reworded. A developer would prefer the specific exception type and can handle the case appropriately instead of trying to handle RuntimeException.
If the intent is to make the message more user friendly, then references to values of enums is irrelevant to them anyway. Let the UI code determine what should be displayed to the user, and the UI developer would be better off with the IllegalArgumentException.
How do I check if a type is a subtype OR the type of an object?
If you're trying to do it in a Xamarin Forms PCL project, the above solutions using IsAssignableFrom gives an error:
Error: 'Type' does not contain a definition for 'IsAssignableFrom' and no extension method 'IsAssignableFrom' accepting a first argument of type 'Type' could be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)
because IsAssignableFrom asks for a TypeInfo object. You can use the GetTypeInfo() method from System.Reflection:
typeof(BaseClass).GetTypeInfo().IsAssignableFrom(typeof(unknownType).GetTypeInfo())
What is the difference between _tmain() and main() in C++?
_tmain is a macro that gets redefined depending on whether or not you compile with Unicode or ASCII. It is a Microsoft extension and isn't guaranteed to work on any other compilers.
The correct declaration is
 int _tmain(int argc, _TCHAR *argv[])
If the macro UNICODE is defined, that expands to
int wmain(int argc, wchar_t *argv[])
Otherwise it expands to
int main(int argc, char *argv[])
Your definition goes for a bit of each, and (if you have UNICODE defined) will expand to
 int wmain(int argc, char *argv[])
which is just plain wrong.
std::cout works with ASCII characters. You need std::wcout if you are using wide characters.
try something like this
#include <iostream>
#include <tchar.h>
#if defined(UNICODE)
    #define _tcout std::wcout
#else
    #define _tcout std::cout
#endif
int _tmain(int argc, _TCHAR *argv[])
{
   _tcout << _T("There are ") << argc << _T(" arguments:") << std::endl;
   // Loop through each argument and print its number and value
   for (int i=0; i<argc; i++)
      _tcout << i << _T(" ") << argv[i] << std::endl;
   return 0;
}
Or you could just decide in advance whether to use wide or narrow characters. :-)
Updated 12 Nov 2013:
Changed the traditional "TCHAR" to "_TCHAR" which seems to be the latest fashion. Both work fine.
  1. In Notepad++ go to Plugins > Plugin manager > Show Plugin Manager then find Xml Tools plugin. Tick the box and click Install
  2. Open XML document you want to validate and click Ctrl+Shift+Alt+M (Or use Menu if this is your preference Plugins > XML Tools > Validate Now).
    Following dialog will open: enter image description here
  3. Click on .... Point to XSD file and I am pretty sure you'll be able to handle things from here.
Hope this saves you some time.
EDIT: Plugin manager was not included in some versions of Notepad++ because many users didn't like commercials that it used to show. If you want to keep an older version, however still want plugin manager, you can get it on github, and install it by extracting the archive and copying contents to plugins and updates folder.
In version 7.7.1 plugin manager is back under a different guise... Plugin Admin so now you can simply update notepad++ and have it back.
Time complexity of nested for-loop
First we'll consider loops where the number of iterations of the inner loop is independent of the value of the outer loop's index. For example:
 for (i = 0; i < N; i++) {
     for (j = 0; j < M; j++) {
         sequence of statements
      }
  }
The outer loop executes N times. Every time the outer loop executes, the inner loop executes M times. As a result, the statements in the inner loop execute a total of N * M times. Thus, the total complexity for the two loops is O(N2).
What is the best practice for creating a favicon on a web site?
I used https://iconifier.net I uploaded my image, downloaded images zip file, added images to my server, followed the directions on the site including adding the links to my index.html and it worked. My favicon now shows on my iPhone in Safari when 'Add to home screen'
Generate random numbers with a given (numerical) distribution
Make a list of items, based on their weights:
items = [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]
probabilities= [0.1, 0.05, 0.05, 0.2, 0.4, 0.2]
# if the list of probs is normalized (sum(probs) == 1), omit this part
prob = sum(probabilities) # find sum of probs, to normalize them
c = (1.0)/prob # a multiplier to make a list of normalized probs
probabilities = map(lambda x: c*x, probabilities)
print probabilities
ml = max(probabilities, key=lambda x: len(str(x)) - str(x).find('.'))
ml = len(str(ml)) - str(ml).find('.') -1
amounts = [ int(x*(10**ml)) for x in probabilities]
itemsList = list()
for i in range(0, len(items)): # iterate through original items
  itemsList += items[i:i+1]*amounts[i]
# choose from itemsList randomly
print itemsList
An optimization may be to normalize amounts by the greatest common divisor, to make the target list smaller.
Also, this might be interesting.
How do I generate a constructor from class fields using Visual Studio (and/or ReSharper)?
ReSharper offers a Generate Constructor tool where you can select any field/properties that you want initialized. I use the Alt + Ins hot-key to access this.
Printing an array in C++?
Use the STL
#include <iostream>
#include <vector>
#include <algorithm>
#include <iterator>
int main()
{
    std::vector<int>    userInput;
    // Read until end of input.
    // Hit control D
    std::copy(std::istream_iterator<int>(std::cin),
              std::istream_iterator<int>(),
              std::back_inserter(userInput)
             );
    // Print in Normal order
    std::copy(userInput.begin(),
              userInput.end(),
              std::ostream_iterator<int>(std::cout,",")
             );
    std::cout << "\n";
    // Print in reverse order:
    std::copy(userInput.rbegin(),
              userInput.rend(),
              std::ostream_iterator<int>(std::cout,",")
             );
    std::cout << "\n";
    // Update for C++11
    // Range based for is now a good alternative.
    for(auto const& value: userInput)
    {
        std::cout << value << ",";
    }
    std::cout << "\n";
}
Count length of array and return 1 if it only contains one element
declare you array as:
now with powershell syntax:)
$car = [array]"bmw"
Reversing an Array in Java
If you want to reverse the array in-place:
Collections.reverse(Arrays.asList(array));
It works since Arrays.asList returns a write-through proxy to the original array.
Remove a file from a Git repository without deleting it from the local filesystem
A more generic solution:
  1. Edit .gitignore file.
    echo mylogfile.log >> .gitignore
  2. Remove all items from index.
    git rm -r -f --cached .
  3. Rebuild index.
    git add .
  4. Make new commit
    git commit -m "Removed mylogfile.log"
Get access to parent control from user control - C#
According to Ruskins answer and the comments here I came up with the following (recursive) solution:
public static T GetParentOfType<T>(this Control control) where T : class
{
    if (control?.Parent == null)
        return null;
    if (control.Parent is T parent)
        return parent;
    return GetParentOfType<T>(control.Parent);
}
How to change column order in a table using sql query in sql server 2005?
You can achieve it with these steps:
  1. remove all foreign keys and primary key of the original table.
  2. rename the original table.
  3. using CTAS create the original table in the order you want.
  4. drop the old table.
  5. apply all constraints back to the original table
Could not load file or assembly 'Newtonsoft.Json, Version=9.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=30ad4fe6b2a6aeed' or one of its dependencies
I had same issue with the following version 12.0.3:
Could not load file or assembly 'Newtonsoft.Json, Version=12.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=30ad4fe6b2a6aeed' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.
This issue was only in my Test project (xUnit) and was caused by lack of newtonsoft.json in this project.
What is important, I was testing code from another project where library was attached and works properly.
What is the default scope of a method in Java?
If you are not giving any modifier to your method then as default it will be Default modifier which has scope within package.
Is there a naming convention for git repositories?
Without favouring any particular naming choice, remember that a git repo can be cloned into any root directory of your choice:
git clone https://github.com/user/repo.git myDir
Here repo.git would be cloned into the myDir directory.
So even if your naming convention for a public repo ended up to be slightly incorrect, it would still be possible to fix it on the client side.
That is why, in a distributed environment where any client can do whatever he/she wants, there isn't really a naming convention for Git repo.
(except to reserve "xxx.git" for bare form of the repo 'xxx')
There might be naming convention for REST service (similar to "Are there any naming convention guidelines for REST APIs?"), but that is a separate issue.
get UTC timestamp in python with datetime
PHP - Check if two arrays are equal
Here is the example how to compare to arrays and get what is different between them.
$array1 = ['1' => 'XXX', 'second' => [
            'a' => ['test' => '2'],
            'b' => 'test'
        ], 'b' => ['no test']];
        $array2 = [
            '1' => 'XX',
            'second' => [
                'a' => ['test' => '5', 'z' => 5],
                'b' => 'test'
            ],
            'test'
        ];
        function compareArrayValues($arrayOne, $arrayTwo, &$diff = [], $reversed = false)
        {
            foreach ($arrayOne as $key => $val) {
                if (!isset($arrayTwo[$key])) {
                    $diff[$key] = 'MISSING IN ' . ($reversed ? 'FIRST' : 'SECOND');
                } else if (is_array($val) && (json_encode($arrayOne[$key]) !== json_encode($arrayTwo[$key]))) {
                    compareArrayValues($arrayOne[$key], $arrayTwo[$key], $diff[$key], $reversed);
                } else if ($arrayOne[$key] !== $arrayTwo[$key]) {
                    $diff[$key] = 'DIFFERENT';
                }
            }
        }
        $diff = [];
        $diffSecond = [];
        compareArrayValues($array1, $array2, $diff);
        compareArrayValues($array2, $array1, $diffSecond, true);
        print_r($diff);
        print_r($diffSecond);
        print_r(array_merge($diff, $diffSecond));
Result:
Array
(
    [0] => DIFFERENT
    [second] => Array
        (
            [a] => Array
                (
                    [test] => DIFFERENT
                    [z] => MISSING IN FIRST
                )
        )
    [b] => MISSING IN SECOND
    [1] => DIFFERENT
    [2] => MISSING IN FIRST
)
Catch an exception thrown by an async void method
This blog explains your problem neatly Async Best Practices.
The gist of it being you shouldn't use void as return for an async method, unless it's an async event handler, this is bad practice because it doesn't allow exceptions to be caught ;-).
Best practice would be to change the return type to Task. Also, try to code async all the way trough, make every async method call and be called from async methods. Except for a Main method in a console, which can't be async (before C# 7.1).
You will run into deadlocks with GUI and ASP.NET applications if you ignore this best practice. The deadlock occurs because these applications runs on a context that allows only one thread and won't relinquish it to the async thread. This means the GUI waits synchronously for a return, while the async method waits for the context: deadlock.
This behaviour won't happen in a console application, because it runs on context with a thread pool. The async method will return on another thread which will be scheduled. This is why a test console app will work, but the same calls will deadlock in other applications...
Declaring a python function with an array parameters and passing an array argument to the function call?
Maybe you want unpack elements of array, I don't know if I got it, but below a example:
def my_func(*args):
    for a in args:
        print a
my_func(*[1,2,3,4])
my_list = ['a','b','c']
my_func(*my_list)
Retrieve column values of the selected row of a multicolumn Access listbox
Just a little addition. If you've only selected 1 row then the code below will select the value of a column (index of 4, but 5th column) for the selected row:
me.lstIssues.Column(4)
This saves having to use the ItemsSelected property.
How to check if a file exists in a shell script
Here is an alternative method using ls:
(ls x.txt && echo yes) || echo no
If you want to hide any output from ls so you only see yes or no, redirect stdout and stderr to /dev/null:
(ls x.txt >> /dev/null 2>&1 && echo yes) || echo no
How to call a method function from another class?
You need to instantiate the other classes inside the main class;
Date d = new Date(params);
TemperatureRange t = new TemperatureRange(params);
You can then call their methods with:
object.methodname(params);
d.method();
You currently have constructors in your other classes. You should not return anything in these.
public Date(params){
    set variables for date object
}
Next you need a method to reference.
public returnType methodName(params){
  return something;
}
ListBox with ItemTemplate (and ScrollBar!)
ListBox will try to expand in height that is available.. When you set the Height property of ListBox you get a scrollviewer that actually works...
If you wish your ListBox to accodate the height available, you might want to try to regulate the Height from your parent controls.. In a Grid for example, setting the Height to Auto in your RowDefinition might do the trick...
What's the safest way to iterate through the keys of a Perl hash?
Using the each syntax will prevent the entire set of keys from being generated at once. This can be important if you're using a tie-ed hash to a database with millions of rows. You don't want to generate the entire list of keys all at once and exhaust your physical memory. In this case each serves as an iterator whereas keys actually generates the entire array before the loop starts.
So, the only place "each" is of real use is when the hash is very large (compared to the memory available). That is only likely to happen when the hash itself doesn't live in memory itself unless you're programming a handheld data collection device or something with small memory.
If memory is not an issue, usually the map or keys paradigm is the more prevelant and easier to read paradigm.
Hiding a sheet in Excel 2007 (with a password) OR hide VBA code in Excel
Here is what you do in Excel 2003:
  1. In your sheet of interest, go to Format -> Sheet -> Hide and hide your sheet.
  2. Go to Tools -> Protection -> Protect Workbook, make sure Structure is selected, and enter your password of choice.
Here is what you do in Excel 2007:
  1. In your sheet of interest, go to Home ribbon -> Format -> Hide & Unhide -> Hide Sheet and hide your sheet.
  2. Go to Review ribbon -> Protect Workbook, make sure Structure is selected, and enter your password of choice.
Once this is done, the sheet is hidden and cannot be unhidden without the password. Make sense?
If you really need to keep some calculations secret, try this: use Access (or another Excel workbook or some other DB of your choice) to calculate what you need calculated, and export only the "unclassified" results to your Excel workbook.
How to convert Rows to Columns in Oracle?
If you are using Oracle 10g, you can use the DECODE function to pivot the rows into columns:
CREATE TABLE doc_tab (
  loan_number VARCHAR2(20),
  document_type VARCHAR2(20),
  document_id VARCHAR2(20)
);
INSERT INTO doc_tab VALUES('992452533663', 'Voters ID', 'XPD0355636');
INSERT INTO doc_tab VALUES('992452533663', 'Pan card', 'CHXPS5522D');
INSERT INTO doc_tab VALUES('992452533663', 'Drivers licence', 'DL-0420110141769');
COMMIT;
SELECT
    loan_number,
    MAX(DECODE(document_type, 'Voters ID', document_id)) AS voters_id,
    MAX(DECODE(document_type, 'Pan card', document_id)) AS pan_card,
    MAX(DECODE(document_type, 'Drivers licence', document_id)) AS drivers_licence
  FROM
    doc_tab
GROUP BY loan_number
ORDER BY loan_number;
Output:
LOAN_NUMBER   VOTERS_ID            PAN_CARD             DRIVERS_LICENCE
------------- -------------------- -------------------- --------------------
992452533663  XPD0355636           CHXPS5522D           DL-0420110141769
You can achieve the same using Oracle PIVOT clause, introduced in 11g:
SELECT *
  FROM doc_tab
PIVOT (
  MAX(document_id) FOR document_type IN ('Voters ID','Pan card','Drivers licence')
);
SQLFiddle example with both solutions: SQLFiddle example
Add item to array in VBScript
Slight change to the FastArray from above:
'pushtest.vbs
imax = 10000000
value = "Testvalue"
s = imax & " of """ & value & """"
t0 = timer 'Fast array
a = array()
ub = UBound(a)
For i = 0 To imax
 If i>ub Then
    ReDim Preserve a(Int((ub+10)*1.1))
    ub = UBound(a)
 End If
 a(i) = value
Next
ReDim Preserve a(i-1)
s = s & "[FastArr " & FormatNumber(timer - t0, 3, -1) & "]"
MsgBox s
There is no point in checking UBound(a) in every cycle of the for if we know exactly when it changes.
I've changed it so that it checks does UBound(a) just before the for starts and then only every time the ReDim is called
On my computer the old method took 7.52 seconds for an imax of 10 millions.
The new method took 5.29 seconds for an imax of also 10 millions, which signifies a performance increase of over 20% (for 10 millions tries, obviously this percentage has a direct relationship to the number of tries)
Return value from nested function in Javascript
Just FYI, Geocoder is asynchronous so the accepted answer while logical doesn't really work in this instance. I would prefer to have an outside object that acts as your updater.
var updater = {};
function geoCodeCity(goocoord) {
    var geocoder = new google.maps.Geocoder();
    geocoder.geocode({
        'latLng': goocoord
    }, function(results, status) {
        if (status == google.maps.GeocoderStatus.OK) {
            updater.currentLocation = results[1].formatted_address;
        } else {
            if (status == "ERROR") {
                    console.log(status);
                }
        }
    });
};
    right: 0px;
}
<div id="content">
How can you represent inheritance in a database?
With the information provided, I'd model the database to have the following:
POLICIES
  • POLICY_ID (primary key)
LIABILITIES
  • LIABILITY_ID (primary key)
  • POLICY_ID (foreign key)
PROPERTIES
  • PROPERTY_ID (primary key)
  • POLICY_ID (foreign key)
...and so on, because I'd expect there to be different attributes associated with each section of the policy. Otherwise, there could be a single SECTIONS table and in addition to the policy_id, there'd be a section_type_code...
Either way, this would allow you to support optional sections per policy...
I don't understand what you find unsatisfactory about this approach - this is how you store data while maintaining referential integrity and not duplicating data. The term is "normalized"...
Because SQL is SET based, it's rather alien to procedural/OO programming concepts & requires code to transition from one realm to the other. ORMs are often considered, but they don't work well in high volume, complex systems.
Find a commit on GitHub given the commit hash
A URL of the form https://github.com/<owner>/<project>/commit/<hash> will show you the changes introduced in that commit. For example here's a recent bugfix I made to one of my projects on GitHub:
https://github.com/jerith666/git-graph/commit/35e32b6a00dec02ae7d7c45c6b7106779a124685
You can also shorten the hash to any unique prefix, like so:
https://github.com/jerith666/git-graph/commit/35e32b
I know you just asked about GitHub, but for completeness: If you have the repository checked out, from the command line, you can achieve basically the same thing with either of these commands (unique prefixes work here too):
git show 35e32b6a00dec02ae7d7c45c6b7106779a124685
git log -p -1 35e32b6a00dec02ae7d7c45c6b7106779a124685
Note: If you shorten the commit hash too far, the command line gives you a helpful disambiguation message, but GitHub will just return a 404.
Converting JSON to XML in Java
If you have a valid dtd file for the xml then you can easily transform json to xml and xml to json using the eclipselink jar binary.
Refer this: http://www.cubicrace.com/2015/06/How-to-convert-XML-to-JSON-format.html
The article also has a sample project (including the supporting third party jars) as a zip file which can be downloaded for reference purpose.
Is it valid to have a html form inside another html form?
rather use a custom javascript-method inside the action attribute of the form!
eg
<html>
    <head>
        <script language="javascript" type="text/javascript">
        var input1 = null;
        var input2 = null;
        function InitInputs() {
            if (input1 == null) {
                input1 = document.getElementById("input1");
            }
            if (input2 == null) {
                input2 = document.getElementById("input2");
            }
            if (input1 == null) {
                alert("input1 missing");
            }
            if (input2 == null) {
                alert("input2 missing");
            }
        }
        function myMethod1() {
            InitInputs();
            alert(input1.value + " " + input2.value);
        }
        function myMethod2() {
            InitInputs();
            alert(input1.value);
        }
        </script>
    </head>
    <body>
        <form action="javascript:myMethod1();">
            <input type="submit" value="myMethod1" />
How to call a REST web service API from JavaScript?
Without a doubt, the simplest method uses an invisible FORM element in HTML specifying the desired REST method. Then the arguments can be inserted into input type=hidden value fields using JavaScript and the form can be submitted from the button click event listener or onclick event using one line of JavaScript. Here is an example that assumes the REST API is in file REST.php:
<body>
<h2>REST-test</h2>
<input type=button onclick="document.getElementById('a').submit();"
    value="Do It">
<form id=a action="REST.php" method=post>
<input type=hidden name="arg" value="val">
</form>
</body>
Note that this example will replace the page with the output from page REST.php. I'm not sure how to modify this if you wish the API to be called with no visible effect on the current page. But it's certainly simple.
PPT to PNG with transparent background
I just tried to make a transparent image with powerpoint after failing miserably with other online systems. I was successful. Amazing.
First I used word art to give me typefaces which convert well to PNG or JPEG. The ordinary text in powerpoint does not convert well. It gets fuzzy. Anyway, I typed in my words in white (my choice of colour as i wanted it against a navy blue background), arranged it how i wanted, then right clicked and selected format shape to remove lines, then shadow to set the transparency.
I took the transparency to 100%. It came out fine. i then right clicked to save as png. Opened the image with MS Picture manager and resized the image to my suiting. It did not come out with the powerpoint white background at all. Once resized, i dropped the image against my navy blue background and it was like magic.
How can I open a .tex file?
I don't know what the .tex extension on your file means. If we are saying that it is any file with any extension you have several methods of reading it.
I have to assume you are using windows because you have mentioned notepad++.
  1. Use notepad++. Right click on the file and choose "edit with notepad++"
  2. Use notepad Change the filename extension to .txt and double click the file.
  3. Use command prompt. Open the folder that your file is in. Hold down shift and right click. (not on the file, but in the folder that the file is in.) Choose "open command window here" from the command prompt type: "type filename.tex"
If these don't work, I would need more detail as to how they are not working. Errors that you may be getting or what you may expect to be in the file might help.
Measure execution time for a Java method
Nanotime is in fact not even good for elapsed time because it drifts away signficantly more than currentTimeMillis. Furthermore nanotime tends to provide excessive precision at the expense of accuracy. It is therefore highly inconsistent,and needs refinement.
For any time measuring process,currentTimeMillis (though almost as bad), does better in terms of balancing accuracy and precision.
How to push elements in JSON from javascript array
I think you want to make objects from array and combine it with an old object (BODY.recipients.values), if it's then you may do it using $.extent (because you are using jQuery/tagged) method after prepare the object from array
var BODY = {
    "recipients": {
        "values": []
MySQL - Make an existing Field Unique
ALTER IGNORE TABLE mytbl ADD UNIQUE (columnName);
For MySQL 5.7.4 or later:
ALTER TABLE mytbl ADD UNIQUE (columnName);
As of MySQL 5.7.4, the IGNORE clause for ALTER TABLE is removed and its use produces an error.
So, make sure to remove duplicate entries first as IGNORE keyword is no longer supported.
Why do we not have a virtual constructor in C++?
Virtual functions in C++ are an implementation of run-time polymorphism, and they will do function overriding. Generally the virtual keyword is used in C++ when you need dynamic behavior. It will work only when object exists. Whereas constructors are used to create the objects. Constructors will be called at the time of object creation.
So if you create the constructor as virtual, as per the virtual keyword definition, it should have existing object to use, but constructor is used to to create the object, so this case will never exist. So you should not use the constructor as virtual.
So, if we try to declare virtual constructor compiler throw an Error:
Constructors cannot be declared virtual
Hide/Show Action Bar Option Menu Item for different fragments
To show action items (action buttons) in the ActionBar of fragments where they are only needed, do this:
Lets say you want the save button to only show in the fragment where you accept input for items and not in the Fragment where you view a list of items, add this to the OnCreateOptionsMenu method of the Fragment where you view the items:
public void onCreateOptionsMenu(Menu menu, MenuInflater inflater) {
    if (menu != null) {
        menu.findItem(R.id.action_save_item).setVisible(false);
    }
}
NOTE: For this to work, you need the onCreate() method in your Fragment (where you want to hide item button, the item view fragment in our example) and add setHasOptionsMenu(true) like this:
public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
    super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
    setHasOptionsMenu(true);
}
Might not be the best option, but it works and it's simple.
What is the correct wget command syntax for HTTPS with username and password?
I have found that wget does not properly authenticate with some servers, perhaps because it is only HTTP 1.0 compliant. In such cases, curl (which is HTTP 1.1 compliant) usually does the trick:
curl -o <filename-to-save-as> -u <username>:<password> <url>
SelectSingleNode returning null for known good xml node path using XPath
Just to build upon solving the namespace issues, in my case I've been running into documents with multiple namespaces and needed to handle namespaces properly. I wrote the function below to get a namespace manager to deal with any namespace in the document:
private XmlNamespaceManager GetNameSpaceManager(XmlDocument xDoc)
        XPathNavigator RootNode = xDoc.CreateNavigator();
        RootNode.MoveToFollowing(XPathNodeType.Element);
        IDictionary<string, string> NameSpaces = RootNode.GetNamespacesInScope(XmlNamespaceScope.All);
        foreach (KeyValuePair<string, string> kvp in NameSpaces)
        {
            nsm.AddNamespace(kvp.Key, kvp.Value);
        }
        return nsm;
    }
Invoking a jQuery function after .each() has completed
JavaScript runs synchronously, so whatever you place after each() will not run until each() is complete.
Consider the following test:
var count = 0;
var array = [];
// populate an array with 1,000,000 entries
for(var i = 0; i < 1000000; i++) {
    array.push(i);
}
// use each to iterate over the array, incrementing count each time
$.each(array, function() {
    count++
});
// the alert won't get called until the 'each' is done
//      as evidenced by the value of count
alert(count);
When the alert is called, count will equal 1000000 because the alert won't run until each() is done.
What is define([ , function ]) in JavaScript?
That's probably a requireJS module definition
Check here for more details
RequireJS is a JavaScript file and module loader. It is optimized for in-browser use, but it can be used in other JavaScript environments, like Rhino and Node. Using a modular script loader like RequireJS will improve the speed and quality of your code.
Center align with table-cell
This would be easier to do with flexbox. Using flexbox will let you not to specify the height of your content and can adjust automatically on the height it contains.
rake assets:precompile RAILS_ENV=production not working as required
To explain the problem, your error is as follows:
LoadError: cannot load such file -- uglifier
      (in /home/cool_tech/cool_tech/app/assets/javascripts/application.js)
This means somewhere in application.js, your app is referencing uglifier (probably in the manifest area at the top of the file). To fix the issue, you either need to remove the reference to uglifier, or make sure the uglifier file is present in your app, hence the answers you've been provided
Fix
If you've had no luck with adding the gem to your GemFile, a quick fix would be to remove any reference to uglifier in your application.js manifest. This, of course, will be temporary, but will at least allow you to precompile your assets
What does git push -u mean?
"Upstream" would refer to the main repo that other people will be pulling from, e.g. your GitHub repo. The -u option automatically sets that upstream for you, linking your repo to a central one. That way, in the future, Git "knows" where you want to push to and where you want to pull from, so you can use git pull or git push without arguments. A little bit down, this article explains and demonstrates this concept.
How to use struct timeval to get the execution time?
You have two typing errors in your code:
 struct timeval,
should be
 struct timeval
and after the printf() parenthesis you need a semicolon.
Also, depending on the compiler, so simple a cycle might just be optimized out, giving you a time of 0 microseconds whatever you do.
Finally, the time calculation is wrong. You only take into accounts the seconds, ignoring the microseconds. You need to get the difference between seconds, multiply by one million, then add "after" tv_usec and subtract "before" tv_usec. You gain nothing by casting an integer number of seconds to a float.
I'd suggest checking out the man page for struct timeval.
This is the code:
#include <stdio.h>
#include <sys/time.h>
int main (int argc, char** argv) {
    struct timeval tvalBefore, tvalAfter;  // removed comma
    gettimeofday (&tvalBefore, NULL);
    int i =0;
    while ( i < 10000) {
        i ++;
    }
    gettimeofday (&tvalAfter, NULL);
    // Changed format to long int (%ld), changed time calculation
    printf("Time in microseconds: %ld microseconds\n",
            ((tvalAfter.tv_sec - tvalBefore.tv_sec)*1000000L
           +tvalAfter.tv_usec) - tvalBefore.tv_usec
          ); // Added semicolon
    return 0;
}
How to start Spyder IDE on Windows
I had the same problem after setting up my environment on Windows 10. I have Python 3.6.2 x64 installed as my default Python distribution and is in my PATH so I can launch from cmd prompt.
I installed PyQt5 (pip install pyqt5) and Spyder (pip install spyder) which both installed w/out error and included all of the necessary dependencies.
To launch Spyder, I created a simple Python script (Spyder.py):
# Spyder Start Script
from spyder.app import start
start.main()
Then I created a Windows batch file (Spyder.bat):
@echo off
python c:\<path_to_Spyder_py>\Spyder.py
Lastly, I created a shortcut on my desktop which launches Spyder.bat and updated the icon to one I downloaded from the Spyder github project.
Works like a charm for me.
jQuery getJSON save result into variable
$.getJSon expects a callback functions either you pass it to the callback function or in callback function assign it to global variale.
var globalJsonVar;
    $.getJSON("http://127.0.0.1:8080/horizon-update", function(json){
               //do some thing with json  or assign global variable to incoming json.
                globalJsonVar=json;
          });
IMO best is to call the callback function. which is nicer to eyes, readability aspects.
$.getJSON("http://127.0.0.1:8080/horizon-update", callbackFuncWithData);
function callbackFuncWithData(data)
{
 // do some thing with data
}
OAuth has two scenarios in real mode. The normal and default style of access is called online. So you can get refersh_token is some scenarios ,not all.
How to increment a letter N times per iteration and store in an array?
ord() will not work because your end string is two characters long.
Returns the ASCII value of the first character of string.
Watch it break.
From my testing, you need to check that the end string doesn't get "stepped over". The perl-style character incrementation is a cool method, but it is a single-stepping method. For this reason, an inner loop helps it along when necessary. This is actually not a bother, in fact, it is useful because we need to check if the loop(s) should be broken on each single step.
Code: (Demo)
function excelCols($letter,$end,$step=1){  // function doesn't check that $end is "later" than $letter
    if($step==0)return [];  // prevent infinite loop
    do{
        $letters[]=$letter;  // store letter
        for($x=0; $x<$step; ++$x){  // increment in accordance with $step declaration
            if($letter===$end)break(2);  // break if end is "stepped on"
            ++$letter;
        }
    }while(true);
    return $letters;
}
echo implode(' ',excelCols('A','JJ',4));
echo "\n --- \n";
echo implode(' ',excelCols('A','BB',3));
echo "\n --- \n";
echo implode(' ',excelCols('A','ZZ',1));
echo "\n --- \n";
echo implode(' ',excelCols('A','ZZ',3));
Here is an array-functions approach:
Code: (Demo)
$start='C';
$end='DD';
$step=4;
// generate and store more than we need (this is an obvious method disadvantage)
$result=$array=range('A','Z',1);  // store A - Z as $array and $result
foreach($array as $a){
    foreach($array as $b){
        $result[]="$a$b";  // store double letter combinations
        if(in_array($end,$result)){break(2);}  // stop asap
    }
}
//echo implode(' ',$result),"\n\n";
// slice away from the front of the array
$result=array_slice($result,array_search($start,$result));  // reindex keys
//echo implode(' ',$result),"\n\n";
 // punch out elements that are not "stepped on"
$result=array_filter($result,function($k)use($step){return $k%$step==0;},ARRAY_FILTER_USE_KEY); // use modulo
// result is ready
echo implode(' ',$result);
Output:
C G K O S W AA AE AI AM AQ AU AY BC BG BK BO BS BW CA CE CI CM CQ CU CY DC
Display PNG image as response to jQuery AJAX request
Method 1
You should not make an ajax call, just put the src of the img element as the url of the image.
This would be useful if you use GET instead of POST
<script type="text/javascript" >
  $(document).ready( function() {
      $('.div_imagetranscrits').html('<img src="get_image_probes_via_ajax.pl?id_project=xxx" />')
  } );
</script>
Method 2
If you want to POST to that image and do it the way you do (trying to parse the contents of the image on the client side, you could try something like this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Data_URI_scheme
You'll need to encode the data to base64, then you could put data:[<MIME-type>][;charset=<encoding>][;base64],<data> into the img src
as example:
<img src="data:image/png;base64,iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAAAUAAAAFCAYAAACNbyblAAAAHElEQVQI12P4//8/w38GIAXDIBKE0DHxgljNBAAO9TXL0Y4OHwAAAABJRU5ErkJggg==" alt="Red dot img" />
To encode to base64:
How to convert a DataFrame back to normal RDD in pyspark?
Use the method .rdd like this:
rdd = df.rdd
How to create an alert message in jsp page after submit process is complete
in your servlet
 request.setAttribute("submitDone","done");
 return mapping.findForward("success");
In your jsp
<c:if test="${not empty submitDone}">
  <script>alert("Form submitted");
</script></c:if>
String "true" and "false" to boolean
There isn't any built-in way to handle this (although actionpack might have a helper for that). I would advise something like this
def to_boolean(s)
  s and !!s.match(/^(true|t|yes|y|1)$/i)
end
# or (as Pavling pointed out)
def to_boolean(s)
  !!(s =~ /^(true|t|yes|y|1)$/i)
end
What works as well is to use 0 and non-0 instead of false/true literals:
def to_boolean(s)
  !s.to_i.zero?
end
No numeric types to aggregate - change in groupby() behaviour?
How are you generating your data?
See how the output shows that your data is of 'object' type? the groupby operations specifically check whether each column is a numeric dtype first.
In [31]: data
Out[31]:
<class 'pandas.core.frame.DataFrame'>
DatetimeIndex: 2557 entries, 2004-01-01 00:00:00 to 2010-12-31 00:00:00
Freq: <1 DateOffset>
Columns: 360 entries, -89.75 to 89.75
dtypes: object(360)
look ?
Did you initialize an empty DataFrame first and then filled it? If so that's probably why it changed with the new version as before 0.9 empty DataFrames were initialized to float type but now they are of object type. If so you can change the initialization to DataFrame(dtype=float).
You can also call frame.astype(float)
Set disable attribute based on a condition for Html.TextBoxFor
I like Darin method. But quick way to solve this,
Html.TextBox("Expiry", null, new { style = "width: 70px;", maxlength = "10", id = "expire-date", disabled = "disabled" }).ToString().Replace("disabled=\"disabled\"", (1 == 2 ? "" : "disabled=\"disabled\""))
How can I stop .gitignore from appearing in the list of untracked files?
Watch out for the following "problem" Sometimes you want to add directories but no files within those directories. The simple solution is to create a .gitignore with the following content:
*
This seams to work fine until you realize that the directory was not added (as expected to your repository. The reason for that is that the .gitignore will also be ignored, and thereby the directory is empty. Thus, you should do something like this:
*
!.gitignore
How do I get the first element from an IEnumerable<T> in .net?
try this
IEnumberable<string> aa;
string a = (from t in aa where t.Equals("") select t.Value).ToArray()[0];
How to get current location in Android
You need to write code in the OnLocationChanged method, because this method is called when the location has changed. I.e. you need to save the new location to return it if getLocation is called.
If you don't use the onLocationChanged it always will be the old location.
Pretty Printing a pandas dataframe
You can use prettytable to render the table as text. The trick is to convert the data_frame to an in-memory csv file and have prettytable read it. Here's the code:
from StringIO import StringIO
import prettytable
output = StringIO()
data_frame.to_csv(output)
output.seek(0)
pt = prettytable.from_csv(output)
print pt
How to check if a socket is connected/disconnected in C#?
As Alexander Logger pointed out in zendars answer, you have to send something to be completely sure. In case your connected partner does not read on this socket at all, you can use the following code.
bool SocketConnected(Socket s)
{
  // Exit if socket is null
  if (s == null)
    return false;
  bool part1 = s.Poll(1000, SelectMode.SelectRead);
  bool part2 = (s.Available == 0);
  if (part1 && part2)
    return false;
  else
  {
    try
    {
      int sentBytesCount = s.Send(new byte[1], 1, 0);
      return sentBytesCount == 1;
    }
    catch
    {
      return false;
    }
  }
}
But even then it might take a few seconds until a broken network cable or something similar is detected.
