I can't find my git.exe file in my Github folder

run github that you downloaded, click tools and options symbol(top right), click about github for windows and then open the debug log. under DIAGNOSTICS look for Git Executable Exists:

Cannot open solution file in Visual Studio Code

But you can open the folder with the .SLN in to edit the code in the project, which will detect the .SLN to select the library that provides Intellisense.

Compilation error: stray ‘\302’ in program etc

With me this error ocurred when I copied and pasted a code in text format to my editor (gedit). The code was in a text document (.odt) and I copied it and pasted it into gedit. If you did the same, you have manually rewrite the code.

jQuery SVG, why can't I addClass?

Here is my rather inelegant but working code that deals with the following issues (without any dependencies):

  • classList not existing on <svg> elements in IE
  • className not representing the class attribute on <svg> elements in IE
  • Old IE's broken getAttribute() and setAttribute() implementations

It uses classList where possible.

Code:

var classNameContainsClass = function(fullClassName, className) {
    return !!fullClassName &&
           new RegExp("(?:^|\\s)" + className + "(?:\\s|$)").test(fullClassName);
};

var hasClass = function(el, className) {
    if (el.nodeType !== 1) {
        return false;
    }
    if (typeof el.classList == "object") {
        return (el.nodeType == 1) && el.classList.contains(className);
    } else {
        var classNameSupported = (typeof el.className == "string");
        var elClass = classNameSupported ? el.className : el.getAttribute("class");
        return classNameContainsClass(elClass, className);
    }
};

var addClass = function(el, className) {
    if (el.nodeType !== 1) {
        return;
    }
    if (typeof el.classList == "object") {
        el.classList.add(className);
    } else {
        var classNameSupported = (typeof el.className == "string");
        var elClass = classNameSupported ?
            el.className : el.getAttribute("class");
        if (elClass) {
            if (!classNameContainsClass(elClass, className)) {
                elClass += " " + className;
            }
        } else {
            elClass = className;
        }
        if (classNameSupported) {
            el.className = elClass;
        } else {
            el.setAttribute("class", elClass);
        }
    }
};

var removeClass = (function() {
    function replacer(matched, whiteSpaceBefore, whiteSpaceAfter) {
        return (whiteSpaceBefore && whiteSpaceAfter) ? " " : "";
    }

    return function(el, className) {
        if (el.nodeType !== 1) {
            return;
        }
        if (typeof el.classList == "object") {
            el.classList.remove(className);
        } else {
            var classNameSupported = (typeof el.className == "string");
            var elClass = classNameSupported ?
                el.className : el.getAttribute("class");
            elClass = elClass.replace(new RegExp("(^|\\s)" + className + "(\\s|$)"), replacer);
            if (classNameSupported) {
                el.className = elClass;
            } else {
                el.setAttribute("class", elClass);
            }
        }
    }; //added semicolon here
})();

Example usage:

var el = document.getElementById("someId");
if (hasClass(el, "someClass")) {
    removeClass(el, "someClass");
}
addClass(el, "someOtherClass");

How can I get the "network" time, (from the "Automatic" setting called "Use network-provided values"), NOT the time on the phone?

I didn't know, but found the question interesting. So I dug in the android code... Thanks open-source :)

The screen you show is DateTimeSettings. The checkbox "Use network-provided values" is associated to the shared preference String KEY_AUTO_TIME = "auto_time"; and also to Settings.System.AUTO_TIME

This settings is observed by an observed called mAutoTimeObserver in the 2 network ServiceStateTrackers: GsmServiceStateTracker and CdmaServiceStateTracker.

Both implementations call a method called revertToNitz() when the settings becomes true. Apparently NITZ is the equivalent of NTP in the carrier world.

Bottom line: You can set the time to the value provided by the carrier thanks to revertToNitz(). Unfortunately, I haven't found a mechanism to get the network time. If you really need to do this, I'm afraid, you'll have to copy these ServiceStateTrackers implementations, catch the intent raised by the framework (I suppose), and add a getter to mSavedTime.

When should we call System.exit in Java

Though answer was really helpful but some how it missed some more extra detail. I hope below will help understand the shutdown process in java, in addition to the answer above:

  1. In an orderly* shutdown, the JVM first starts all registered shutdown hooks. Shutdown hooks are unstarted threads that are registered with Runtime.addShutdownHook.
  2. JVM makes no guarantees on the order in which shutdown hooks are started. If any application threads (daemon or nondaemon) are still running at shutdown time, they continue to run concurrently with the shutdown process.
  3. When all shutdown hooks have completed, the JVM may choose to run finalizers if runFinalizersOnExit is true, and then halts.
  4. JVM makes no attempt to stop or interrupt any application threads that are still running at shutdown time; they are abruptly terminated when the JVM eventually halts.
  5. If the shutdown hooks or finalizers don’t complete, then the orderly shutdown process “hangs” and the JVM must be shut down abruptly.
  6. In an abrupt shutdown, the JVM is not required to do anything other than halt the JVM; shutdown hooks will not run.

PS: The JVM can shut down in either an orderly or abrupt manner.

  1. An orderly shutdown is initiated when the last “normal” (nondaemon) thread terminates, someone calls System.exit, or by other platform-specific means (such as sending a SIGINT or hitting Ctrl-C).
  2. While above is the standard and preferred way for the JVM to shut down, it can also be shut down abruptly by calling Runtime.halt or by killing the JVM process through the operating system (such as sending a SIGKILL).

Add space between two particular <td>s

None of the answers worked for me. The simplest way would be to add <td>s in between with width = 5px and background='white' or whatever the background color of the page is.

Again this will fail in case you have a list of <th>s representing table headers.

Validation of radio button group using jQuery validation plugin

With newer releases of jquery (1.3+ I think), all you have to do is set one of the members of the radio set to be required and jquery will take care of the rest:

<input type="radio" name="myoptions" value="blue" class="required"> Blue<br />
<input type="radio" name="myoptions" value="red"> Red<br />
<input type="radio" name="myoptions" value="green"> Green

The above would require at least 1 of the 3 radio options w/ the name of "my options" to be selected before proceeding.

The label suggestion by Mahes, btw, works wonderfully!

Force uninstall of Visual Studio

Microsoft started to address the issue in late 2015 by releasing VisualStudioUninstaller.

They abandoned the solution for a while; however work has begun again as of April 2016.

There has finally been an official release for this uninstaller in April 2016 which is described as being "designed to cleanup/scorch all Preview/RC/RTM releases of Visual Studio 2013, Visual Studio 2015 and Visual Studio vNext".

How do I auto-hide placeholder text upon focus using css or jquery?

try this function:

+It Hides The PlaceHolder On Focus And Returns It Back On Blur

+This function depends on the placeholder selector, first it selects the elements with the placeholder attribute, triggers a function on focusing and another one on blurring.

on focus : it adds an attribute "data-text" to the element which gets its value from the placeholder attribute then it removes the value of the placeholder attribute.

on blur : it returns back the placeholder value and removes it from the data-text attribute

<input type="text" placeholder="Username" />
$('[placeholder]').focus(function() {
    $(this).attr('data-text', $(this).attr('placeholder'));
    $(this).attr('placeholder', '');
  }).blur(function() {
      $(this).attr('placeholder', $(this).attr('data-text'));
      $(this).attr('data-text', '');
  });
});

you can follow me very well if you look what's happening behind the scenes by inspecting the input element

Implementing Singleton with an Enum (in Java)

Like all enum instances, Java instantiates each object when the class is loaded, with some guarantee that it's instantiated exactly once per JVM. Think of the INSTANCE declaration as a public static final field: Java will instantiate the object the first time the class is referred to.

The instances are created during static initialization, which is defined in the Java Language Specification, section 12.4.

For what it's worth, Joshua Bloch describes this pattern in detail as item 3 of Effective Java Second Edition.

Error message 'Unable to load one or more of the requested types. Retrieve the LoaderExceptions property for more information.'

I had this issue while referencing a nuget package and later on using the remove option to delete it from my project. I had to clear the bin folder after battling with the issue for hours. To avoid this its advisable to use nuget to uninstall unwanted packages rather than the usual delete

How can a divider line be added in an Android RecyclerView?

Simply add a margin of x amount at the bottom of an item in your RecycleView Adapter.

onCreateViewHolder

LinearLayout.LayoutParams layoutParams = new LinearLayout.LayoutParams(
                LinearLayout.LayoutParams.MATCH_PARENT, LinearLayout.LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT);

layoutParams.setMargins(0, 0, 0, 5);
itemView.setLayoutParams(layoutParams);

Best way to convert string to bytes in Python 3?

It's easier than it is thought:

my_str = "hello world"
my_str_as_bytes = str.encode(my_str)
type(my_str_as_bytes) # ensure it is byte representation
my_decoded_str = my_str_as_bytes.decode()
type(my_decoded_str) # ensure it is string representation

Is JavaScript a pass-by-reference or pass-by-value language?

sharing what I know of references in JavaScript

In JavaScript, when assigning an object to a variable, the value assigned to the variable is a reference to the object:

_x000D_
_x000D_
var a = {_x000D_
  a: 1,_x000D_
  b: 2,_x000D_
  c: 3_x000D_
};_x000D_
var b = a;_x000D_
_x000D_
// b.c is referencing to a.c value_x000D_
console.log(b.c) // Output: 3_x000D_
// Changing value of b.c_x000D_
b.c = 4_x000D_
// Also changes the value of a.c_x000D_
console.log(a.c) // Output: 4
_x000D_

How to copy a collection from one database to another in MongoDB

In case some heroku users stumble here and like me want to copy some data from staging database to the production database or vice versa here's how you do it very conveniently (N.B. I hope there's no typos in there, can't check it atm., I'll try confirm the validity of the code asap):

to_app="The name of the app you want to migrate data to"
from_app="The name of the app you want to migrate data from"
collection="the collection you want to copy"
mongohq_url=`heroku config:get --app "$to_app" MONGOHQ_URL`
parts=(`echo $mongohq_url | sed "s_mongodb://heroku:__" | sed "s_[@/]_ _g"`)
to_token=${parts[0]}; to_url=${parts[1]}; to_db=${parts[2]}
mongohq_url=`heroku config:get --app "$from_app" MONGOHQ_URL`
parts=(`echo $mongohq_url | sed "s_mongodb://heroku:__" | sed "s_[@/]_ _g"`)
from_token=${parts[0]}; from_url=${parts[1]}; from_db=${parts[2]}
mongodump -h "$from_url" -u heroku -d "$from_db" -p"$from_token" -c "$collection" -o col_dump
mongorestore -h "$prod_url" -u heroku -d "$to_app" -p"$to_token" --dir col_dump/"$col_dump"/$collection".bson -c "$collection"

Putty: Getting Server refused our key Error

Oh my God I spent days trying to fix this. So here is what worked for me. I went back to the root fold like this: cd /root/ mkdir .ssh cd .ssh chmod 700 .ssh nano -w authorized_keys service ssh restart So I used root to logging via Putty and it worked. so try to do the same with the user you want to use in putty.

Excel "External table is not in the expected format."

If you still have this problem, then check your permissions, I tried many of these suggestions and my concrete problem was that the file that I wanted to process was under source control and the thread had no permissions, I had to change the entire folder permissions and it started to work (I was processing many files in there)... It also matches many suggestions like change the name of the file or check that the file is not loicked by another process.

I hope it helps you.

Is a slash ("/") equivalent to an encoded slash ("%2F") in the path portion of an HTTP URL

I also have a site that has numerous urls with urlencoded characters. I am finding that many web APIs (including Google webmaster tools and several Drupal modules) trip over urlencoded characters. Many APIs automatically decode urls at some point in their process and then use the result as a URL or HTML. When I find one of these problems, I usually double encode the results (which turns %2f into %252f) for that API. However, this will break other APIs which are not expecting double encoding, so this is not a universal solution.

Personally I am getting rid of as many special characters in my URLs as possible.

Also, I am using id numbers in my URLs which do not depend on urldecoding:

example.com/blog/my-amazing-blog%2fstory/yesterday

becomes:

example.com/blog/12354/my-amazing-blog%2fstory/yesterday

in this case, my code only uses 12354 to look for the article, and the rest of the URL gets ignored by my system (but is still used for SEO.) Also, this number should appear BEFORE the unused URL components. that way, the url will still work, even if the %2f gets decoded incorrectly.

Also, be sure to use canonical tags to ensure that url mistakes don't translate into duplicate content.

MySQL "incorrect string value" error when save unicode string in Django

You aren't trying to save unicode strings, you're trying to save bytestrings in the UTF-8 encoding. Make them actual unicode string literals:

user.last_name = u'Slatkevicius'

or (when you don't have string literals) decode them using the utf-8 encoding:

user.last_name = lastname.decode('utf-8')

Setting WPF image source in code

How to load an image from embedded in resource icons and images (corrected version of Arcturus):

Suppose you want to add a button with an image. What should you do?

  1. Add to project folder icons and put image ClickMe.png here
  2. In properties of 'ClickMe.png', set 'BuildAction' to 'Resource'
  3. Suppose your compiled assembly name is 'Company.ProductAssembly.dll'.
  4. Now it's time to load our image in XAML

    <Button Width="200" Height="70">
      <Button.Content>
        <StackPanel>
          <Image Width="20" Height="20">
            <Image.Source>
              <BitmapImage UriSource="/Company.ProductAssembly;component/Icons/ClickMe.png"></BitmapImage>
              </Image.Source>
          </Image>
          <TextBlock HorizontalAlignment="Center">Click me!</TextBlock>
        </StackPanel>
      </Button.Content>
    </Button>

Done.

How to compile c# in Microsoft's new Visual Studio Code?

Since no one else said it, the short-cut to compile (build) a C# app in Visual Studio Code (VSCode) is SHIFT+CTRL+B.

If you want to see the build errors (because they don't pop-up by default), the shortcut is SHIFT+CTRL+M.

(I know this question was asking for more than just the build shortcut. But I wanted to answer the question in the title, which wasn't directly answered by other answers/comments.)

changing kafka retention period during runtime

How to save a Python interactive session?

If you use bpython, all your command history is by default saved to ~/.pythonhist.

To save the commands for later reusage you can copy them to a python script file:

$ cp ~/.pythonhist mycommands.py

Then edit that file to clean it up and put it under Python path (global or virtual environment's site-packages, current directory, mentioning in *.pth, or some other way).

To include the commands into your shell, just import them from the saved file:

>>> from mycommands import *

Find a file with a certain extension in folder

It's quite easy, actually. You can use the System.IO.Directory class in conjunction with System.IO.Path. Something like (using LINQ makes it even easier):

var allFilenames = Directory.EnumerateFiles(path).Select(p => Path.GetFileName(p));

// Get all filenames that have a .txt extension, excluding the extension
var candidates = allFilenames.Where(fn => Path.GetExtension(fn) == ".txt")
                             .Select(fn => Path.GetFileNameWithoutExtension(fn));

There are many variations on this technique too, of course. Some of the other answers are simpler if your filter is simpler. This one has the advantage of the delayed enumeration (if that matters) and more flexible filtering at the expense of more code.

How to Convert unsigned char* to std::string in C++?

How do I make a simple crawler in PHP?

Meh. Don't parse HTML with regexes.

Here's a DOM version inspired by Tatu's:

<?php
function crawl_page($url, $depth = 5)
{
    static $seen = array();
    if (isset($seen[$url]) || $depth === 0) {
        return;
    }

    $seen[$url] = true;

    $dom = new DOMDocument('1.0');
    @$dom->loadHTMLFile($url);

    $anchors = $dom->getElementsByTagName('a');
    foreach ($anchors as $element) {
        $href = $element->getAttribute('href');
        if (0 !== strpos($href, 'http')) {
            $path = '/' . ltrim($href, '/');
            if (extension_loaded('http')) {
                $href = http_build_url($url, array('path' => $path));
            } else {
                $parts = parse_url($url);
                $href = $parts['scheme'] . '://';
                if (isset($parts['user']) && isset($parts['pass'])) {
                    $href .= $parts['user'] . ':' . $parts['pass'] . '@';
                }
                $href .= $parts['host'];
                if (isset($parts['port'])) {
                    $href .= ':' . $parts['port'];
                }
                $href .= dirname($parts['path'], 1).$path;
            }
        }
        crawl_page($href, $depth - 1);
    }
    echo "URL:",$url,PHP_EOL,"CONTENT:",PHP_EOL,$dom->saveHTML(),PHP_EOL,PHP_EOL;
}
crawl_page("http://hobodave.com", 2);

Edit: I fixed some bugs from Tatu's version (works with relative URLs now).

Edit: I added a new bit of functionality that prevents it from following the same URL twice.

Edit: echoing output to STDOUT now so you can redirect it to whatever file you want

Edit: Fixed a bug pointed out by George in his answer. Relative urls will no longer append to the end of the url path, but overwrite it. Thanks to George for this. Note that George's answer doesn't account for any of: https, user, pass, or port. If you have the http PECL extension loaded this is quite simply done using http_build_url. Otherwise, I have to manually glue together using parse_url. Thanks again George.

Spring Test & Security: How to mock authentication?

It turned out that the SecurityContextPersistenceFilter, which is part of the Spring Security filter chain, always resets my SecurityContext, which I set calling SecurityContextHolder.getContext().setAuthentication(principal) (or by using the .principal(principal) method). This filter sets the SecurityContext in the SecurityContextHolder with a SecurityContext from a SecurityContextRepository OVERWRITING the one I set earlier. The repository is a HttpSessionSecurityContextRepository by default. The HttpSessionSecurityContextRepository inspects the given HttpRequest and tries to access the corresponding HttpSession. If it exists, it will try to read the SecurityContext from the HttpSession. If this fails, the repository generates an empty SecurityContext.

Thus, my solution is to pass a HttpSession along with the request, which holds the SecurityContext:

import static org.springframework.test.web.servlet.request.MockMvcRequestBuilders.get;
import static org.springframework.test.web.servlet.result.MockMvcResultMatchers.status;

import org.junit.Test;
import org.springframework.mock.web.MockHttpSession;
import org.springframework.security.authentication.UsernamePasswordAuthenticationToken;
import org.springframework.security.core.context.SecurityContextHolder;
import org.springframework.security.web.context.HttpSessionSecurityContextRepository;

import eu.ubicon.webapp.test.WebappTestEnvironment;

public class Test extends WebappTestEnvironment {

    public static class MockSecurityContext implements SecurityContext {

        private static final long serialVersionUID = -1386535243513362694L;

        private Authentication authentication;

        public MockSecurityContext(Authentication authentication) {
            this.authentication = authentication;
        }

        @Override
        public Authentication getAuthentication() {
            return this.authentication;
        }

        @Override
        public void setAuthentication(Authentication authentication) {
            this.authentication = authentication;
        }
    }

    @Test
    public void signedIn() throws Exception {

        UsernamePasswordAuthenticationToken principal =
                this.getPrincipal("test1");

        MockHttpSession session = new MockHttpSession();
        session.setAttribute(
                HttpSessionSecurityContextRepository.SPRING_SECURITY_CONTEXT_KEY,
                new MockSecurityContext(principal));

        super.mockMvc
            .perform(
                    get("/api/v1/resource/test")
                    .session(session))
            .andExpect(status().isOk());
    }
}

Android emulator-5554 offline

In such a case, you can do all of the following in order to be assured that your emulator starts working again :

  1. Go to cmd and type adb kill-server
  2. Go to task manager and find adb in processes. If you find one, right click on it and click on end process tree.
  3. In eclipse, go to Window>Android Virtual Device Manager, click on the AVD you want to launch, click on start and uncheck "Launch From Snapshot" and then click on launch.

That's it! It will take a while and it should resolve your problem.

git: patch does not apply

In my case I was stupid enough to create the patch file incorrectly in the first place, actually diff-ing the wrong way. I ended up with the exact same error messages.

If you're on master and do git diff branch-name > branch-name.patch, this tries to remove all additions you want to happen and vice versa (which was impossible for git to accomplish since, obviously, never done additions cannot be removed).

So make sure you checkout to your branch and execute git diff master > branch-name.patch

What is the best way to get the minimum or maximum value from an Array of numbers?

Please take into account that sorting the array will only be faster that looping up to certain size of the array. If your array is small (and it will be like that any time) then your solution is perfectly fine. But if it might get too large you should use a conditional to use the sort approach when the array is small, and the normal iteration when it is too large

I recently updated SDK tools to Revision 22 and I noticed my code changes was not being affective on the device i'm testing at all. Such as the url I was using, I was getting errors for connection time out regarding the url I was "previously" using. Therefore I cleaned the project and built again only to find out that autogenerated R.java file is missing.

After reading Paresh's answer and checking what's going on with my sdk manager this is what I saw: enter image description here

SDK Build-tools 17 was not installed and there was already a new update to SDK tools even though it does not mention any change related to this problem in the changelog, this update brought back my R.java file and the related problems were gone after an eclipse restart and final clean/rebuild on the project.

UPDATE tblKit

HRESULT: 0x80040154 (REGDB_E_CLASSNOTREG))

Just looking at the message it sounds like one or more of the components that you reference, or one or more of their dependencies is not registered properly.

If you know which component it is you can use regsvr32.exe to register it, just open a command prompt, go to the directory where the component is and type regsvr32 filename.dll (assuming it's a dll), if it works, try to run the code again otherwise come back here with the error.

If you don't know which component it is, try re-installing/repairing the GIS software (I assume you've installed some GIS software that includes the component you're trying to use).

Logical operators for boolean indexing in Pandas

When you say

(a['x']==1) and (a['y']==10)

You are implicitly asking Python to convert (a['x']==1) and (a['y']==10) to boolean values.

NumPy arrays (of length greater than 1) and Pandas objects such as Series do not have a boolean value -- in other words, they raise

ValueError: The truth value of an array is ambiguous. Use a.empty, a.any() or a.all().

when used as a boolean value. That's because its unclear when it should be True or False. Some users might assume they are True if they have non-zero length, like a Python list. Others might desire for it to be True only if all its elements are True. Others might want it to be True if any of its elements are True.

Because there are so many conflicting expectations, the designers of NumPy and Pandas refuse to guess, and instead raise a ValueError.

Instead, you must be explicit, by calling the empty(), all() or any() method to indicate which behavior you desire.

In this case, however, it looks like you do not want boolean evaluation, you want element-wise logical-and. That is what the & binary operator performs:

(a['x']==1) & (a['y']==10)

returns a boolean array.

By the way, as alexpmil notes, the parentheses are mandatory since & has a higher operator precedence than ==. Without the parentheses, a['x']==1 & a['y']==10 would be evaluated as a['x'] == (1 & a['y']) == 10 which would in turn be equivalent to the chained comparison (a['x'] == (1 & a['y'])) and ((1 & a['y']) == 10). That is an expression of the form Series and Series. The use of and with two Series would again trigger the same ValueError as above. That's why the parentheses are mandatory.

youtube: link to display HD video by default

Nick Vogt at H3XED posted this syntax: https://www.youtube.com/v/VIDEOID?version=3&vq=hd1080

Take this link and replace the expression "VIDEOID" with the (shortened/shared) ID of the video.

Exapmple for ID: i3jNECZ3ybk looks like this: ... /v/i3jNECZ3ybk?version=3&vq=hd1080

What you get as a result is the standalone 1080p video but not in the Tube environment.

How to see local history changes in Visual Studio Code?

I think there is no out-of-the-box support for that in VS Code.

You can install a plugin to give you similar functionality. Eg.:

https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=micnil.vscode-checkpoints

Or the more famous:

https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=xyz.local-history

Some details may need to be configured: The VS Code search gets confused sometimes because of additional folders created by this type of plugins. You can configure it to ignore such folders or change their locations (adding such folders to your .gitignore file also solves this problem).

How to drop columns by name in a data frame

I changed the code to:

# read data
dat<-read.dta("file.dta")

# vars to delete
var.in<-c("iden", "name", "x_serv", "m_serv")

# what I'm keeping
var.out<-setdiff(names(dat),var.in)

# keep only the ones I want
dat <- dat[var.out]

Anyway, juba's answer is the best solution to my problem!

Get fragment (value after hash '#') from a URL in php

You need to parse the url first, so it goes like this:

$url = "https://www.example.com/profile#picture";
$fragment = parse_url($url,PHP_URL_FRAGMENT); //this variable holds the value - 'picture'

If you need to parse the actual url of the current browser, you need to request to call the server.

$url = $_SERVER["REQUEST_URI"];
$fragment = parse_url($url,PHP_URL_FRAGMENT); //this variable holds the value - 'picture'

Rounding Bigdecimal values with 2 Decimal Places

You can call setScale(newScale, roundingMode) method three times with changing the newScale value from 4 to 3 to 2 like

First case

    BigDecimal a = new BigDecimal("10.12345");

    a = a.setScale(4, BigDecimal.ROUND_HALF_UP);
    System.out.println("" + a); //10.1235
    a = a.setScale(3, BigDecimal.ROUND_HALF_UP);
    System.out.println("" + a); //10.124
    a = a.setScale(2, BigDecimal.ROUND_HALF_UP);
    System.out.println("" + a); //10.12

Second case

    BigDecimal a = new BigDecimal("10.12556");

    a = a.setScale(4, BigDecimal.ROUND_HALF_UP);
    System.out.println("" + a); //10.1256
    a = a.setScale(3, BigDecimal.ROUND_HALF_UP);
    System.out.println("" + a); //10.126
    a = a.setScale(2, BigDecimal.ROUND_HALF_UP);
    System.out.println("" + a); //10.13

How to enable PHP short tags?

This can be done by enabling short_open_tag in php.ini:

short_open_tag = on

If you don't have access to the php.ini you can try to enable them trough the .htaccess file but it's possible the hosting company disabled this if you are on shared hosting:

php_value short_open_tag 1

For the people thinking that short_open_tags are bad practice as of php 5.4 the <?= ... ?> shorttag will supported everywhere, regardless of the settings so there is no reason not to use them if you can control the settings on the server. Also said in this link: short_open_tag

IIS7 Settings File Locations

Also check this answer from here: Cannot manually edit applicationhost.config

The answer is simple, if not that obvious: win2008 is 64bit, notepad++ is 32bit. When you navigate to Windows\System32\inetsrv\config using explorer you are using a 64bit program to find the file. When you open the file using using notepad++ you are trying to open it using a 32bit program. The confusion occurs because, rather than telling you that this is what you are doing, windows allows you to open the file but when you save it the file's path is transparently mapped to Windows\SysWOW64\inetsrv\Config.

So in practice what happens is you open applicationhost.config using notepad++, make a change, save the file; but rather than overwriting the original you are saving a 32bit copy of it in Windows\SysWOW64\inetsrv\Config, therefore you are not making changes to the version that is actually used by IIS. If you navigate to the Windows\SysWOW64\inetsrv\Config you will find the file you just saved.

How to get around this? Simple - use a 64bit text editor, such as the normal notepad that ships with windows.

How to identify server IP address in PHP

If you are using PHP in bash shell you can use:

XML Schema Validation : Cannot find the declaration of element

Thanks to everyone above, but this is now fixed. For the benefit of others the most significant error was in aligning the three namespaces as suggested by Ian.

For completeness, here is the corrected XML and XSD

Here is the XML, with the typos corrected (sorry for any confusion caused by tardiness)

            <element3 id="001.1" />

and, here is the Schema

Thanks again to everyone, I hope this is of use to somebody else in the future.

Types in MySQL: BigInt(20) vs Int(20)

The number in parentheses in a type declaration is display width, which is unrelated to the range of values that can be stored in a data type. Just because you can declare Int(20) does not mean you can store values up to 10^20 in it:

[...] This optional display width may be used by applications to display integer values having a width less than the width specified for the column by left-padding them with spaces. ...

The display width does not constrain the range of values that can be stored in the column, nor the number of digits that are displayed for values having a width exceeding that specified for the column. For example, a column specified as SMALLINT(3) has the usual SMALLINT range of -32768 to 32767, and values outside the range allowed by three characters are displayed using more than three characters.

For a list of the maximum and minimum values that can be stored in each MySQL datatype, see here.

Now, to your question:

how to compare two elements coming from xml as string

In Xpath 1.0 strings can be compared only for equality (or inequality), using the operator = and the function not() together with the operator =.

$str1 = $str2

evaluates to true() exactly when the string $str1 is equal to the string $str2.

not($str1 = $str2)

evaluates to true() exactly when the string $str1 is not equal to the string $str2.

There is also the != operator. It generally should be avoided because it has anomalous behavior whenever one of its operands is a node-set.

Now, the rules for comparing two element nodes are similar:

$el1 = $el2

evaluates to true() exactly when the string value of $el1 is equal to the string value of $el2.

not($el1 = $el2)

evaluates to true() exactly when the string value of $el1 is not equal to the string value of $el2.

However, if one of the operands of = is a node-set, then

 $ns = $str

evaluates to true() exactly when there is at least one node in the node-set $ns1, whose string value is equal to the string $str

$ns1 = $ns2

evaluates to true() exactly when there is at least one node in the node-set $ns1, whose string value is equal to the string value of some node from $ns2

Therefore, the expression:

OU_NAME='OU_ADDR1'

evaluates to true() only when there is at least one element child of the current node that is named OU_NAME and whose string value is the string 'OU_ADDR1'.

This is obviously not what you want!

Most probably you want:

OU_NAME=OU_ADDR1

This expression evaluates to true exactly there is at least one OU_NAME child of the current node and one OU_ADDR1 child of the current node with the same string value.

Finally, in XPath 2.0, strings can be compared also using the value comparison operators lt, le, eq, gt, ge and the inherited from XPath 1.0 general comparison operator =.

Trying to evaluate a value comparison operator when one or both of its arguments is a sequence of more than one item results in error.

Correct way to find max in an Array in Swift

The other answers are all correct, but don't forget you could also use collection operators, as follows:

var list = [1, 2, 3, 4]
var max: Int = (list as AnyObject).valueForKeyPath("@max.self") as Int

you can also find the average in the same way:

var avg: Double = (list as AnyObject).valueForKeyPath("@avg.self") as Double

This syntax might be less clear than some of the other solutions, but it's interesting to see that -valueForKeyPath: can still be used :)

though you do need to have access to the information.schema to do this.

How to change the buttons text using javascript

If the HTMLElement is input[type='button'], input[type='submit'], etc.

<input id="ShowButton" type="button" value="Show">
<input id="ShowButton" type="submit" value="Show">

change it using this code:

document.querySelector('#ShowButton').value = 'Hide';

If, the HTMLElement is button[type='button'], button[type='submit'], etc:

<button id="ShowButton" type="button">Show</button>
<button id="ShowButton" type="submit">Show</button>

change it using any of these methods,

document.querySelector('#ShowButton').innerHTML = 'Hide';
document.querySelector('#ShowButton').innerText = 'Hide';
document.querySelector('#ShowButton').textContent = 'Hide';

Please note that

  • input is an empty tag and cannot have innerHTML, innerText or textContent
  • button is a container tag and can have innerHTML, innerText or textContent

Ignore this answer if you ain't using asp.net-web-forms, asp.net-ajax and rad-grid

You must use value instead of innerHTML.

Try this.

document.getElementById("ShowButton").value= "Hide Filter";

And since you are running the button at server the ID may get mangled in the framework. I so, try

document.getElementById('<%=ShowButton.ClientID %>').value= "Hide Filter";

Another better way to do this is like this.

On markup, change your onclick attribute like this. onclick="showFilterItem(this)"

Now use it like this

function showFilterItem(objButton) {
    if (filterstatus == 0) {
        filterstatus = 1;
        $find('<%=FileAdminRadGrid.ClientID %>').get_masterTableView().showFilterItem();
        objButton.value = "Hide Filter";
    }
    else {
        filterstatus = 0;
        $find('<%=FileAdminRadGrid.ClientID %>').get_masterTableView().hideFilterItem();
        objButton.value = "Show filter";
    }
}

How to make Java work with SQL Server?

Do not put both the old sqljdbc.jar and the new sqljdbc4.jar in your classpath - this will make it (more or less) unpredictable which classes are being used, if both of those JARs contain classes with the same qualified names.

You said you put sqljdbc4.jar in your classpath - did you remove the old sqljdbc.jar from the classpath? You said "it didn't work", what does that mean exactly? Are you sure you don't still have the old JAR in your classpath somewhere (maybe not explicitly)?

TypeError: Missing 1 required positional argument: 'self'

You can call the method like pump.getPumps(). By adding @classmethod decorator on the method. A class method receives the class as the implicit first argument, just like an instance method receives the instance.

class Pump:

def __init__(self):
    print ("init") # never prints

@classmethod
def getPumps(cls):
            # Open database connection
            # some stuff here that never gets executed because of error

So, simply call Pump.getPumps() .

In java, it is termed as static method.

Python: list of lists

The list variable (which I would recommend to rename to something more sensible) is a reference to a list object, which can be changed.

On the line

listoflists.append((list, list[0]))

You actually are only adding a reference to the object reference by the list variable. You've got multiple possibilities to create a copy of the list, so listoflists contains the values as you seem to expect:

Use the copy library

import copy
listoflists.append((copy.copy(list), list[0]))

use the slice notation

listoflists.append((list[:], list[0]))

How to pass data using NotificationCenter in swift 3.0 and NSNotificationCenter in swift 2.0?

Swift 2.0

Pass info using userInfo which is a optional Dictionary of type [NSObject : AnyObject]?

  let imageDataDict:[String: UIImage] = ["image": image]

  // Post a notification
  NSNotificationCenter.defaultCenter().postNotificationName(notificationName, object: nil, userInfo: imageDataDict)

 // Register to receive notification in your class
 NSNotificationCenter.defaultCenter().addObserver(self, selector: #selector(self.showSpinningWheel(_:)), name: notificationName, object: nil)

 // handle notification
 func showSpinningWheel(notification: NSNotification) {

  if let image = notification.userInfo?["image"] as? UIImage {
  // do something with your image
  }
 }

Swift 3.0 version and above

The userInfo now takes [AnyHashable:Any]? as an argument, which we provide as a dictionary literal in Swift

  let imageDataDict:[String: UIImage] = ["image": image]

  // post a notification
  NotificationCenter.default.post(name: NSNotification.Name(rawValue: "notificationName"), object: nil, userInfo: imageDataDict)
  // `default` is now a property, not a method call

 // Register to receive notification in your class
 NotificationCenter.default.addObserver(self, selector: #selector(self.showSpinningWheel(_:)), name: NSNotification.Name(rawValue: "notificationName"), object: nil)

 // handle notification
 // For swift 4.0 and above put @objc attribute in front of function Definition
 func showSpinningWheel(_ notification: NSNotification) {

  if let image = notification.userInfo?["image"] as? UIImage {
  // do something with your image
  }
 }

NOTE: Notification “names” are no longer strings, but are of type Notification.Name, hence why we are using NSNotification.Name(rawValue:"notificationName") and we can extend Notification.Name with our own custom notifications.

extension Notification.Name {
static let myNotification = Notification.Name("myNotification")
}

// and post notification like this
NotificationCenter.default.post(name: .myNotification, object: nil)

How to check null objects in jQuery

How to create nested directories using Mkdir in Golang?

os.Mkdir is used to create a single directory. To create a folder path, instead try using:

os.MkdirAll(folderPath, os.ModePerm)

Go documentation

func MkdirAll(path string, perm FileMode) error

MkdirAll creates a directory named path, along with any necessary parents, and returns nil, or else returns an error. The permission bits perm are used for all directories that MkdirAll creates. If path is already a directory, MkdirAll does nothing and returns nil.

Edit:

Updated to correctly use os.ModePerm instead.
For concatenation of file paths, use package path/filepath as described in @Chris' answer.

How to reload the datatable(jquery) data?

You can use a simple approach...

$('YourDataTableID').dataTable()._fnAjaxUpdate();

It will refresh the data by making an ajax request with the same parameters. Very simple.

How to Add a Dotted Underline Beneath HTML Text

HTML5 element can give dotted underline so the beneath text will have dotted line rather than regular underline. And the title attribute creates a tool tip for the user when they hover their cursor over the element:

NOTE: The dotted border/underline is shown by default in Firefox and Opera, but IE8, Safari, and Chrome need a line of CSS:

<abbr title="Hyper Text Markup Language">HTML</abbr>

New lines (\r\n) are not working in email body

for text/plain text mail in a mail function definitely use PHP_EOL constant, you can combine it with
too for text/html text:

$messagePLAINTEXT="This is my message."
. PHP_EOL .
"This is a new line in plain text";

$messageHTML="This is my message."
. PHP_EOL . "<br/>" .
"This is a new line in html text, check line break in code view";

$messageHTML="This is my message."
. "<br/>" .
"This is a new line in html text, no line break in code view";

What is the incentive for curl to release the library for free?

I'm Daniel Stenberg.

I made curl

I founded the curl project back in 1998, I wrote the initial curl version and I created libcurl. I've written more than half of all the 24,000 commits done in the source code repository up to this point in time. I'm still the lead developer of the project. To a large extent, curl is my baby.

I shipped the first version of curl as open source since I wanted to "give back" to the open source world that had given me so much code already. I had used so much open source and I wanted to be as cool as the other open source authors.

Thanks to it being open source, literally thousands of people have been able to help us out over the years and have improved the products, the documentation. the web site and just about every other detail around the project. curl and libcurl would never have become the products that they are today were they not open source. The list of contributors now surpass 1900 names and currently the list grows with a few hundred names per year.

Thanks to curl and libcurl being open source and liberally licensed, they were immediately adopted in numerous products and soon shipped by operating systems and Linux distributions everywhere thus getting a reach beyond imagination.

Thanks to them being "everywhere", available and liberally licensed they got adopted and used everywhere and by everyone. It created a defacto transfer library standard.

At an estimated six billion installations world wide, we can safely say that curl is the most widely used internet transfer library in the world. It simply would not have gone there had it not been open source. curl runs in billions of mobile phones, a billion Windows 10 installations, in a half a billion games and several hundred million TVs - and more.

Should I have released it with proprietary license instead and charged users for it? It never occured to me, and it wouldn't have worked because I would never had managed to create this kind of stellar project on my own. And projects and companies wouldn't have used it.

Why do I still work on curl?

Now, why do I and my fellow curl developers still continue to develop curl and give it away for free to the world?

  1. I can't speak for my fellow project team members. We all participate in this for our own reasons.
  2. I think it's still the right thing to do. I'm proud of what we've accomplished and I truly want to make the world a better place and I think curl does its little part in this.
  3. There are still bugs to fix and features to add!
  4. curl is free but my time is not. I still have a job and someone still has to pay someone for me to get paid every month so that I can put food on the table for my family. I charge customers and companies to help them with curl. You too can get my help for a fee, which then indirectly helps making sure that curl continues to evolve, remain free and the kick-ass product it is.
  5. curl was my spare time project for twenty years before I started working with it full time. I've had great jobs and worked on awesome projects. I've been in a position of luxury where I could continue to work on curl on my spare time and keep shipping a quality product for free. My work on curl has given me friends, boosted my career and taken me to places I would not have been at otherwise.
  6. I would not do it differently if I could back and do it again.

Am I proud of what we've done?

Yes. So insanely much.

But I'm not satisfied with this and I'm not just leaning back, happy with what we've done. I keep working on curl every single day, to improve, to fix bugs, to add features and to make sure curl keeps being the number one file transfer solution for the world even going forward.

We do mistakes along the way. We make the wrong decisions and sometimes we implement things in crazy ways. But to win in the end and to conquer the world is about patience and endurance and constantly going back and reconsidering previous decisions and correcting previous mistakes. To continuously iterate, polish off rough edges and gradually improve over time.

Never give in. Never stop. Fix bugs. Add features. Iterate. To the end of time.

For real?

Yeah. For real.

Do I ever get tired? Is it ever done?

Sure I get tired at times. Working on something every day for over twenty years isn't a paved downhill road. Sometimes there are obstacles. During times things are rough. Occasionally people are just as ugly and annoying as people can be.

But curl is my life's project and I have patience. I have thick skin and I don't give up easily. The tough times pass and most days are awesome. I get to hang out with awesome people and the reward is knowing that my code helps driving the Internet revolution everywhere is an ego boost above normal.

curl will never be "done" and so far I think work on curl is pretty much the most fun I can imagine. Yes, I still think so even after twenty years in the driver's seat. And as long as I think it's fun I intend to keep at it.

Auto logout with Angularjs based on idle user

ng-Idle looks like the way to go, but I could not figure out Brian F's modifications and wanted to timeout for a sleeping session too, also I had a pretty simple use case in mind. I pared it down to the code below. It hooks events to reset a timeout flag (lazily placed in $rootScope). It only detects the timeout has happened when the user returns (and triggers an event) but that's good enough for me. I could not get angular's $location to work here but again, using document.location.href gets the job done.

I stuck this in my app.js after the .config has run.

app.run(function($rootScope,$document)
{
  var d = new Date();
  var n = d.getTime();  //n in ms

    $rootScope.idleEndTime = n+(20*60*1000); //set end time to 20 min from now
    $document.find('body').on('mousemove keydown DOMMouseScroll mousewheel mousedown touchstart', checkAndResetIdle); //monitor events

    function checkAndResetIdle() //user did something
    {
      var d = new Date();
      var n = d.getTime();  //n in ms

        if (n>$rootScope.idleEndTime)
        {
            $document.find('body').off('mousemove keydown DOMMouseScroll mousewheel mousedown touchstart'); //un-monitor events

            //$location.search('IntendedURL',$location.absUrl()).path('/login'); //terminate by sending to login page
            document.location.href = 'https://whatever.com/myapp/#/login';
            alert('Session ended due to inactivity');
        }
        else
        {
            $rootScope.idleEndTime = n+(20*60*1000); //reset end time
        }
    }
});

How to register multiple servlets in web.xml in one Spring application

As explained in this thread on the cxf-user mailing list, rather than having the CXFServlet load its own spring context from user-webservice-servlet.xml, you can just load the whole lot into the root context. Rename your existing user-webservice-servlet.xml to some other name (e.g. user-webservice-beans.xml) then change your contextConfigLocation parameter to something like:

<servlet>
  <servlet-name>myservlet</servlet-name>
  <servlet-class>org.springframework.web.servlet.DispatcherServlet</servlet-class>
  <load-on-startup>1</load-on-startup>
</servlet>

<servlet-mapping>
  <servlet-name>myservlet</servlet-name>
  <url-pattern>*.htm</url-pattern>
</servlet-mapping>

<context-param>
  <param-name>contextConfigLocation</param-name>
  <param-value>
    /WEB-INF/applicationContext.xml
    /WEB-INF/user-webservice-beans.xml
  </param-value>
</context-param>

<servlet>
  <servlet-name>user-webservice</servlet-name>
  <servlet-class>org.apache.cxf.transport.servlet.CXFServlet</servlet-class>
  <load-on-startup>2</load-on-startup>
</servlet>

<servlet-mapping>
  <servlet-name>user-webservice</servlet-name>
  <url-pattern>/UserService/*</url-pattern>
</servlet-mapping>

putting datepicker() on dynamically created elements - JQuery/JQueryUI

Make sure your element with the .date-picker class does NOT already have a hasDatepicker class. If it does, even an attempt to re-initialize with $myDatepicker.datepicker(); will fail! Instead you need to do...

JUnit test for System.out.println()

Based on @dfa's answer and another answer that shows how to test System.in, I would like to share my solution to give an input to a program and test its output.

As a reference, I use JUnit 4.12.

Let's say we have this program that simply replicates input to output:

import java.util.Scanner;

public class SimpleProgram {
    public static void main(String[] args) {
        Scanner scanner = new Scanner(System.in);
        System.out.print(scanner.next());
        scanner.close();
    }
}

To test it, we can use the following class:

import static org.junit.Assert.*;

import java.io.*;

import org.junit.*;

public class SimpleProgramTest {
    private final InputStream systemIn = System.in;
    private final PrintStream systemOut = System.out;

    private ByteArrayInputStream testIn;
    private ByteArrayOutputStream testOut;

    @Before
    public void setUpOutput() {
        testOut = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
        System.setOut(new PrintStream(testOut));
    }

    private void provideInput(String data) {
        testIn = new ByteArrayInputStream(data.getBytes());
        System.setIn(testIn);
    }

    private String getOutput() {
        return testOut.toString();
    }

    @After
    public void restoreSystemInputOutput() {
        System.setIn(systemIn);
        System.setOut(systemOut);
    }

    @Test
    public void testCase1() {
        final String testString = "Hello!";
        provideInput(testString);

        SimpleProgram.main(new String[0]);

        assertEquals(testString, getOutput());
    }
}

I won't explain much, because I believe the code is readable and I cited my sources.

When JUnit runs testCase1(), it is going to call the helper methods in the order they appear:

  1. setUpOutput(), because of the @Before annotation
  2. provideInput(String data), called from testCase1()
  3. getOutput(), called from testCase1()
  4. restoreSystemInputOutput(), because of the @After annotation

I didn't test System.err because I didn't need it, but it should be easy to implement, similar to testing System.out.

Spark - repartition() vs coalesce()

It avoids a full shuffle. If it's known that the number is decreasing then the executor can safely keep data on the minimum number of partitions, only moving the data off the extra nodes, onto the nodes that we kept.

So, it would go something like this:

Node 1 = 1,2,3
Node 2 = 4,5,6
Node 3 = 7,8,9
Node 4 = 10,11,12

Then coalesce down to 2 partitions:

Node 1 = 1,2,3 + (10,11,12)
Node 3 = 7,8,9 + (4,5,6)

Notice that Node 1 and Node 3 did not require its original data to move.

How to map and remove nil values in Ruby

Try using reduce or inject.

[1, 2, 3].reduce([]) { |memo, i|
  if i % 2 == 0
    memo << i
  end

  memo
}

I agree with the accepted answer that we shouldn't map and compact, but not for the same reasons.

I feel deep inside that map then compact is equivalent to select then map. Consider: map is a one-to-one function. If you are mapping from some set of values, and you map, then you want one value in the output set for each value in the input set. If you are having to select before-hand, then you probably don't want a map on the set. If you are having to select afterwards (or compact) then you probably don't want a map on the set. In either case you are iterating twice over the entire set, when a reduce only needs to go once.

Also, in English, you are trying to "reduce a set of integers into a set of even integers".

TextView Marquee not working

I faced the same problem and this discussion helped me I just replace this line

android:maxLines="1"

with this line in xml

android:singleLine="true"

and it works the line txtView.setSelected(true); was also in my activity.

Removing all empty elements from a hash / YAML?

Use hsh.delete_if. In your specific case, something like: hsh.delete_if { |k, v| v.empty? }

Exception of type 'System.OutOfMemoryException' was thrown.

This problem usually occurs when some process such as loading huge data to memory stream and your system memory is not capable of storing so much of data. Try clearing temp folder by giving the command

start -> run -> %temp%

Where can I download JSTL jar

In the past, there was something like: https: //jstl.dev.java.net/download.html. But since a few days, there is something happening on dev.java.net.

Java.net will be modified, read this: http: //www.java.net/. So I think we have to wait. I also found: http: //java.net/projects/help/pages/RequestedProjects.

Maybe this is helpful.

Another option is to look into the maven repository: http://repo1.maven.org/maven2/javax/servlet/

Render HTML to an image

Use html2canvas just include plugin and call method to convert HTML to Canvas then download as image PNG

        html2canvas(document.getElementById("image-wrap")).then(function(canvas) {
            var link = document.createElement("a");
            document.body.appendChild(link);
            link.download = "manpower_efficiency.jpg";
            link.href = canvas.toDataURL();
            link.target = '_blank';
            link.click();
        });

How to get a cross-origin resource sharing (CORS) post request working

Using this in combination with Laravel solved my problem. Just add this header to your jquery request Access-Control-Request-Headers: x-requested-with and make sure that your server side response has this header set Access-Control-Allow-Headers: *.

C compiling - "undefined reference to"?

seems you need to link with the obj file that implements tolayer5()

Update: your function declaration doesn't match the implementation:

      void tolayer5(int AorB, struct msg msgReceived)
      void tolayer5(int, char data[])

So compiler would treat them as two different functions (you are using c++). and it cannot find the implementation for the one you called in main().

Centering a background image, using CSS

There's an error in your code. You're using a mix of full syntax and shorthand notation on the background-image property.This is causing the no-repeat to be ignored, since it's not a valid value for the background-image property.

body{
    background-position:center;
    background-image:url(../images/images2.jpg) no-repeat;
}

Should become one of the following:

body{
    background:url(../images/images2.jpg) center center no-repeat;
}

or

body
{
    background-image: url(path-to-file/img.jpg);
    background-repeat:no-repeat;
    background-position: center center;
}

EDIT: For your image 'scaling' issue, you might want to look at this question's answer.

Cannot access a disposed object - How to fix?

Looking at the error stack trace, it seems your timer is still active. Try to cancel the timer upon closing the form (i.e. in the form's OnClose() method). This looks like the cleanest solution.

Check if user is using IE

This is how the Angularjs team is doing it (v 1.6.5):

var msie, // holds major version number for IE, or NaN if UA is not IE.

// Support: IE 9-11 only
/**
 * documentMode is an IE-only property
 * http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ie/cc196988(v=vs.85).aspx
 */
msie = window.document.documentMode;

Then there are several lines of code scattered throughout using it as a number such as

if (event === 'input' && msie <= 11) return false;

and

if (enabled && msie < 8) {

Cannot implicitly convert type 'int' to 'short'

The line

 Int16 answer = firstNo + secondNo;

is interpreted as

 Int16 answer = (Int32) (firstNo + secondNo);

Simply because there is no such thing as Int16 arithmetic.

The simple solution: Do not use Int16. Use Int32 or simply int.

int is your default integer type. short and long are only used in special cases.

What are callee and caller saved registers?

Callee vs caller saved is a convention for who is responsible for saving and restoring the value in a register across a call. ALL registers are "global" in that any code anywhere can see (or modify) a register and those modifications will be seen by any later code anywhere. The point of register saving conventions is that code is not supposed to modify certain registers, as other code assumes that the value is not modified.

In your example code, NONE of the registers are callee save, as it makes no attempt to save or restore the register values. However, it would seem to not be an entire procedure, as it contains a branch to an undefined label (l$loop). So it might be a fragment of code from the middle of a procedure that treats some registers as callee save; you're just missing the save/restore instructions.

Change bootstrap datepicker date format on select

for me with bootstrap 4 datetime picker (http://www.eyecon.ro/bootstrap-datepicker/) format worked only with upper case:

$('.datepicker').datetimepicker({

Find element's index in pandas Series

If you use numpy, you can get an array of the indecies that your value is found:

import numpy as np
import pandas as pd
myseries = pd.Series([1,4,0,7,5], index=[0,1,2,3,4])
np.where(myseries == 7)

This returns a one element tuple containing an array of the indecies where 7 is the value in myseries:

(array([3], dtype=int64),)

How do I create a WPF Rounded Corner container?

I know that this isn't an answer to the initial question ... but you often want to clip the inner content of that rounded corner border you just created.

Chris Cavanagh has come up with an excellent way to do just this.

I have tried a couple different approaches to this ... and I think this one rocks.

Here is the xaml below:

<Page
    xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation"
    xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml"
    Background="Black"
>
    <!-- Rounded yellow border -->
    <Border
        HorizontalAlignment="Center"
        VerticalAlignment="Center"
        BorderBrush="Yellow"
        BorderThickness="3"
        CornerRadius="10"
        Padding="2"
    >
        <Grid>
            <!-- Rounded mask (stretches to fill Grid) -->
            <Border
                Name="mask"
                Background="White"
                CornerRadius="7"
            />

            <!-- Main content container -->
            <StackPanel>
                <!-- Use a VisualBrush of 'mask' as the opacity mask -->
                <StackPanel.OpacityMask>
                    <VisualBrush Visual="{Binding ElementName=mask}"/>
                </StackPanel.OpacityMask>

                <!-- Any content -->
                <Image Source="http://chriscavanagh.files.wordpress.com/2006/12/chriss-blog-banner.jpg"/>
                <Rectangle
                    Height="50"
                    Fill="Red"/>
                <Rectangle
                    Height="50"
                    Fill="White"/>
                <Rectangle
                    Height="50"
                    Fill="Blue"/>
            </StackPanel>
        </Grid>
    </Border>
</Page>

Provide schema while reading csv file as a dataframe

Thanks to the answer by @Nulu, it works for pyspark with minimal tweaking

from pyspark.sql.types import LongType, StringType, StructField, StructType, BooleanType, ArrayType, IntegerType

How is a CSS "display: table-column" supposed to work?

The CSS table model is based on the HTML table model http://www.w3.org/TR/CSS21/tables.html

A table is divided into ROWS, and each row contains one or more cells. Cells are children of ROWS, they are NEVER children of columns.

"display: table-column" does NOT provide a mechanism for making columnar layouts (e.g. newspaper pages with multiple columns, where content can flow from one column to the next).

Rather, "table-column" ONLY sets attributes that apply to corresponding cells within the rows of a table. E.g. "The background color of the first cell in each row is green" can be described.

The table itself is always structured the same way it is in HTML.

In HTML (observe that "td"s are inside "tr"s, NOT inside "col"s):

<table ..>
  <col .. />
  <col .. />
  <tr ..>
    <td ..></td>
    <td ..></td>
  </tr>
  <tr ..>
    <td ..></td>
    <td ..></td>
  </tr>
</table>

Corresponding HTML using CSS table properties (Note that the "column" divs do not contain any contents -- the standard does not allow for contents directly in columns):

_x000D_
_x000D_
.mytable {_x000D_
  display: table;_x000D_
}_x000D_
.myrow {_x000D_
  display: table-row;_x000D_
}_x000D_
.mycell {_x000D_
  display: table-cell;_x000D_
}_x000D_
.column1 {_x000D_
  display: table-column;_x000D_
  background-color: green;_x000D_
}_x000D_
.column2 {_x000D_
  display: table-column;_x000D_
}
_x000D_
<div class="mytable">_x000D_
  <div class="column1"></div>_x000D_
  <div class="column2"></div>_x000D_
  <div class="myrow">_x000D_
    <div class="mycell">contents of first cell in row 1</div>_x000D_
    <div class="mycell">contents of second cell in row 1</div>_x000D_
  </div>_x000D_
  <div class="myrow">_x000D_
    <div class="mycell">contents of first cell in row 2</div>_x000D_
    <div class="mycell">contents of second cell in row 2</div>_x000D_
  </div>_x000D_
</div>

OPTIONAL: both "rows" and "columns" can be styled by assigning multiple classes to each row and cell as follows. This approach gives maximum flexibility in specifying various sets of cells, or individual cells, to be styled:

_x000D_
_x000D_
//Useful css declarations, depending on what you want to affect, include:_x000D_
_x000D_
/* all cells (that have "class=mycell") */_x000D_
.mycell {_x000D_
}_x000D_
_x000D_
/* class row1, wherever it is used */_x000D_
.row1 {_x000D_
}_x000D_
_x000D_
/* all the cells of row1 (if you've put "class=mycell" on each cell) */_x000D_
.row1 .mycell {_x000D_
}_x000D_
_x000D_
/* cell1 of row1 */_x000D_
.row1 .cell1 {_x000D_
}_x000D_
_x000D_
/* cell1 of all rows */_x000D_
.cell1 {_x000D_
}_x000D_
_x000D_
/* row1 inside class mytable (so can have different tables with different styles) */_x000D_
.mytable .row1 {_x000D_
}_x000D_
_x000D_
/* all the cells of row1 of a mytable */_x000D_
.mytable .row1 .mycell {_x000D_
}_x000D_
_x000D_
/* cell1 of row1 of a mytable */_x000D_
.mytable .row1 .cell1 {_x000D_
}_x000D_
_x000D_
/* cell1 of all rows of a mytable */_x000D_
.mytable .cell1 {_x000D_
}
_x000D_
<div class="mytable">_x000D_
  <div class="column1"></div>_x000D_
  <div class="column2"></div>_x000D_
  <div class="myrow row1">_x000D_

In today's flexible designs, which use <div> for multiple purposes, it is wise to put some class on each div, to help refer to it. Here, what used to be <tr> in HTML became class myrow, and <td> became class mycell. This convention is what makes the above CSS selectors useful.

PERFORMANCE NOTE: putting class names on each cell, and using the above multi-class selectors, is better performance than using selectors ending with *, such as .row1 * or even .row1 > *. The reason is that selectors are matched last first, so when matching elements are being sought, .row1 * first does *, which matches all elements, and then checks all the ancestors of each element, to find if any ancestor has class row1. This might be slow in a complex document on a slow device. .row1 > * is better, because only the immediate parent is examined. But it is much better still to immediately eliminate most elements, via .row1 .cell1. (.row1 > .cell1 is an even tighter spec, but it is the first step of the search that makes the biggest difference, so it usually isn't worth the clutter, and the extra thought process as to whether it will always be a direct child, of adding the child selector >.)

The key point to take away re performance is that the last item in a selector should be as specific as possible, and should never be *.

How to compare two object variables in EL expression language?

In Expression Language you can just use the == or eq operator to compare object values. Behind the scenes they will actually use the Object#equals(). This way is done so, because until with the current EL 2.1 version you cannot invoke methods with other signatures than standard getter (and setter) methods (in the upcoming EL 2.2 it would be possible).

So the particular line

<c:when test="${lang}.equals(${pageLang})">

should be written as (note that the whole expression is inside the { and })

<c:when test="${lang == pageLang}">

or, equivalently

<c:when test="${lang eq pageLang}">

Both are behind the scenes roughly interpreted as

jspContext.findAttribute("lang").equals(jspContext.findAttribute("pageLang"))

If you want to compare constant String values, then you need to quote it

<c:when test="${lang == 'en'}">

or, equivalently

<c:when test="${lang eq 'en'}">

which is behind the scenes roughly interpreted as

jspContext.findAttribute("lang").equals("en")

One DbContext per web request... why?

One thing that's not really addressed in the question or the discussion is the fact that DbContext can't cancel changes. You can submit changes, but you can't clear out the change tree, so if you use a per request context you're out of luck if you need to throw changes away for whatever reason.

Personally I create instances of DbContext when needed - usually attached to business components that have the ability to recreate the context if required. That way I have control over the process, rather than having a single instance forced onto me. I also don't have to create the DbContext at each controller startup regardless of whether it actually gets used. Then if I still want to have per request instances I can create them in the CTOR (via DI or manually) or create them as needed in each controller method. Personally I usually take the latter approach as to avoid creating DbContext instances when they are not actually needed.

It depends from which angle you look at it too. To me the per request instance has never made sense. Does the DbContext really belong into the Http Request? In terms of behavior that's the wrong place. Your business components should be creating your context, not the Http request. Then you can create or throw away your business components as needed and never worry about the lifetime of the context.

Running EXE with parameters

startInfo.Arguments =cParams;
startInfo.UseShellExecute = false;
System.Diagnostics.Process.Start(startInfo);

import module from string variable

The __import__ function can be a bit hard to understand.

If you change

i = __import__('matplotlib.text')

to

i = __import__('matplotlib.text', fromlist=[''])

then i will refer to matplotlib.text.

In Python 2.7 and Python 3.1 or later, you can use importlib:

import importlib

i = importlib.import_module("matplotlib.text")

Some notes

  • If you're trying to import something from a sub-folder e.g. ./feature/email.py, the code will look like importlib.import_module("feature.email")

  • You can't import anything if there is no __init__.py in the folder with file you are trying to import

Laravel Eloquent get results grouped by days

I built a laravel package for making statistics : https://github.com/Ifnot/statistics

It is based on eloquent, carbon and indicators so it is really easy to use. It may be usefull for extracting date grouped indicators.

$statistics = Statistics::of(MyModel::query());

$statistics->date('validated_at');

$statistics->interval(Interval::$DAILY, Carbon::createFromFormat('Y-m-d', '2016-01-01'), Carbon::now())

$statistics->indicator('total', function($row) {
    return $row->counter;
});

$data = $statistics->make();

How to write to an existing excel file without overwriting data (using pandas)?

Old question, but I am guessing some people still search for this - so...

I find this method nice because all worksheets are loaded into a dictionary of sheet name and dataframe pairs, created by pandas with the sheetname=None option. It is simple to add, delete or modify worksheets between reading the spreadsheet into the dict format and writing it back from the dict. For me the xlsxwriter works better than openpyxl for this particular task in terms of speed and format.

Note: future versions of pandas (0.21.0+) will change the "sheetname" parameter to "sheet_name".

# read a single or multi-sheet excel file
# (returns dict of sheetname(s), dataframe(s))
ws_dict = pd.read_excel(excel_file_path,
                        sheetname=None)

# all worksheets are accessible as dataframes.

# easy to change a worksheet as a dataframe:
mod_df = ws_dict['existing_worksheet']

# do work on mod_df...then reassign
ws_dict['existing_worksheet'] = mod_df

# add a dataframe to the workbook as a new worksheet with
# ws name, df as dict key, value:
ws_dict['new_worksheet'] = some_other_dataframe

# when done, write dictionary back to excel...
# xlsxwriter honors datetime and date formats
# (only included as example)...
with pd.ExcelWriter(excel_file_path,
                    engine='xlsxwriter',
                    datetime_format='yyyy-mm-dd',
                    date_format='yyyy-mm-dd') as writer:

    for ws_name, df_sheet in ws_dict.items():
        df_sheet.to_excel(writer, sheet_name=ws_name)

For the example in the 2013 question:

ws_dict = pd.read_excel('Masterfile.xlsx',
                        sheetname=None)

ws_dict['Main'] = data_filtered[['Diff1', 'Diff2']]

with pd.ExcelWriter('Masterfile.xlsx',
                    engine='xlsxwriter') as writer:

    for ws_name, df_sheet in ws_dict.items():
        df_sheet.to_excel(writer, sheet_name=ws_name)

How can I pass a parameter to a setTimeout() callback?

Answering the question but by a simple addition function with 2 arguments.

ASP.NET Web API application gives 404 when deployed at IIS 7

I have been battling this problem for a couple of days trying all kinds of things suggested. My dev machine was working fine, but the new machine I was deploying to was giving me the 404 error.

In IIS manager, I compared the handler mappings on both machines to realize that a lot of handlers were missing. Turns out that ASP.Net 5 was not installed on the machine.

Bold words in a string of strings.xml in Android

In kotlin, you can create extensions functions on resources (activities|fragments |context) that will convert your string to an html span

e.g.

fun Resources.getHtmlSpannedString(@StringRes id: Int): Spanned = getString(id).toHtmlSpan()

fun Resources.getHtmlSpannedString(@StringRes id: Int, vararg formatArgs: Any): Spanned = getString(id, *formatArgs).toHtmlSpan()

fun Resources.getQuantityHtmlSpannedString(@PluralsRes id: Int, quantity: Int): Spanned = getQuantityString(id, quantity).toHtmlSpan()

fun Resources.getQuantityHtmlSpannedString(@PluralsRes id: Int, quantity: Int, vararg formatArgs: Any): Spanned = getQuantityString(id, quantity, *formatArgs).toHtmlSpan()

fun String.toHtmlSpan(): Spanned = if (Build.VERSION.SDK_INT >= Build.VERSION_CODES.N) {
    Html.fromHtml(this, Html.FROM_HTML_MODE_LEGACY)
} else {
    Html.fromHtml(this)
}

Usage

//your strings.xml
<string name="greeting"><![CDATA[<b>Hello %s!</b><br>]]>This is newline</string>

//in your fragment or activity
resources.getHtmlSpannedString(R.string.greeting, "World")

EDIT even more extensions

fun Context.getHtmlSpannedString(@StringRes id: Int): Spanned = getString(id).toHtmlSpan()

fun Context.getHtmlSpannedString(@StringRes id: Int, vararg formatArgs: Any): Spanned = getString(id, *formatArgs).toHtmlSpan()

fun Context.getQuantityHtmlSpannedString(@PluralsRes id: Int, quantity: Int, vararg formatArgs: Any): Spanned = resources.getQuantityString(id, quantity, *formatArgs).toHtmlSpan()

fun Activity.getHtmlSpannedString(@StringRes id: Int): Spanned = getString(id).toHtmlSpan()

fun Activity.getHtmlSpannedString(@StringRes id: Int, vararg formatArgs: Any): Spanned = getString(id, *formatArgs).toHtmlSpan()

How do I print the full value of a long string in gdb?

As long as your program's in a sane state, you can also call (void)puts(your_string) to print it to stdout. Same principle applies to all functions available to the debugger, actually.

How do you get the file size in C#?

The FileInfo class' Length property returns the size of the file (not the size on disk). If you want a formatted file size (i.e. 15 KB) rather than a long byte value you can use CSharpLib, a package I've made that adds more functionality to the FileInfo class. Here's an example:

using CSharpLib;
FileInfo info = new FileInfo("sample.txt");
Console.WriteLine(info.FormatBytes());  // Output: 15 MB

Custom domain for GitHub project pages

I'd like to share my steps which is a bit different to what offered by rynop and superluminary.

  • for A Record is exactly the same but
  • instead of creating CNAME for www I would prefer to redirect it to my blank domain (non-www)

This configuration is referring to guidance of preferred domain. The domain setting of www to non www or vise versa can be different on each of the domain providers. Since my domain is under GoDaddy, so under the Domain Setting I set it using the Subdomain Forwarding (301).

As the result of pointing the domain to Github repository, it will then give all the URLs for both of master and gh-pages branch similar like the ones I listed below goes to the preferred domain:

master

By creating CNAME file on master branch (check it on my user repository).

http://hyipworld.github.io/
http://www.hyip.world/
http://hyip.world/

gh-pages

By creating the same CNAME file on gh-pages branch (check it on my project repository).

http://hyipworld.github.io/maps/
http://www.hyip.world/maps/
http://hyip.world/maps/

As addition to the CNAME file above, you may need to completely bypass Jekyll processing on GitHub Pages by creating a file named .nojekyll in the root of your pages repo.

Change background color of edittext in android

The simplest solution I have found is to change the background color programmatically. This does not require dealing with any 9-patch images:

((EditText) findViewById(R.id.id_nick_name)).getBackground()
    .setColorFilter(Color.<your-desi??red-color>, PorterDuff.Mode.MULTIPLY);

Compare two different files line by line in python

I have just been faced with the same challenge, but I thought "Why programming this in Python if you can solve it with a simple "grep"?, which led to the following Python code:

import subprocess
from subprocess import PIPE

try:
  output1, errors1 = subprocess.Popen(["c:\\cygwin\\bin\\grep", "-Fvf" ,"c:\\file1.txt", "c:\\file2.txt"], shell=True, stdout=PIPE, stderr=PIPE).communicate();
  output2, errors2 = subprocess.Popen(["c:\\cygwin\\bin\\grep", "-Fvf" ,"c:\\file2.txt", "c:\\file1.txt"], shell=True, stdout=PIPE, stderr=PIPE).communicate();
  if (len(output1) + len(output2) + len(errors1) + len(errors2) > 0):
    print ("Compare result : There are differences:");
    if (len(output1) + len(output2) > 0):
      print ("  Output differences : ");
      print (output1);
      print (output2);
    if (len(errors1) + len(errors2) > 0):
      print (" Errors : ");
      print (errors1);
      print (errors2);
  else:
    print ("Compare result : Both files are equal");
except Exception as ex:
  print("Compare result : Exception during comparison");
  print(ex);
  raise;

The trick behind this is the following: grep -Fvf file1.txt file2.txt verifies if all entries in file2.txt are present in file1.txt. By doing this in both directions we can see if the content of both files are "equal". I put "equal" between quotes because duplicate lines are disregarded in this way of working.

Obviously, this is just an example: you can replace grep by any commandline file comparison tool.

How to initialize var?

you cannot assign null to a var type.

If you assign null the compiler cannot find the variable you wanted in var place.

throws error: Cannot assign <null> to an implicitly-typed local variable

you can try this:

var dummy =(string)null;

Here compiler can find the type you want so no problem

You can assign some empty values.

var dummy = string.Empty;

or

var dummy = 0;

Python str vs unicode types

unicode is meant to handle text. Text is a sequence of code points which may be bigger than a single byte. Text can be encoded in a specific encoding to represent the text as raw bytes(e.g. utf-8, latin-1...).

Note that unicode is not encoded! The internal representation used by python is an implementation detail, and you shouldn't care about it as long as it is able to represent the code points you want.

On the contrary str in Python 2 is a plain sequence of bytes. It does not represent text!

You can think of unicode as a general representation of some text, which can be encoded in many different ways into a sequence of binary data represented via str.

Note: In Python 3, unicode was renamed to str and there is a new bytes type for a plain sequence of bytes.

Some differences that you can see:

>>> len(u'à')  # a single code point
1
>>> len('à')   # by default utf-8 -> takes two bytes
2
>>> len(u'à'.encode('utf-8'))
2
>>> len(u'à'.encode('latin1'))  # in latin1 it takes one byte
1
>>> print u'à'.encode('utf-8')  # terminal encoding is utf-8
à
>>> print u'à'.encode('latin1') # it cannot understand the latin1 byte
?

Note that using str you have a lower-level control on the single bytes of a specific encoding representation, while using unicode you can only control at the code-point level. For example you can do:

>>> 'àèìòù'
'\xc3\xa0\xc3\xa8\xc3\xac\xc3\xb2\xc3\xb9'
>>> print 'àèìòù'.replace('\xa8', '')
à?ìòù

What before was valid UTF-8, isn't anymore. Using a unicode string you cannot operate in such a way that the resulting string isn't valid unicode text. You can remove a code point, replace a code point with a different code point etc. but you cannot mess with the internal representation.

How to fill background image of an UIView

Correct way to do in Swift 4, If your frame as screen size is correct then put anywhere otherwise, important to write this in viewDidLayoutSubviews because we can get actual frame in viewDidLayoutSubviews

   override func viewDidLayoutSubviews() {

        UIGraphicsBeginImageContext(view.frame.size)
        UIImage(named: "myImage")?.draw(in: self.view.bounds)
        let image = UIGraphicsGetImageFromCurrentImageContext()
        UIGraphicsEndImageContext()

        view.backgroundColor = UIColor.init(patternImage: image!)
    }

How to build & install GLFW 3 and use it in a Linux project

The well-described answer is already there, but I went through this SHORTER recipe:

  1. Install Linuxbrew
  2. $ brew install glfw
  3. cd /home/linuxbrew/.linuxbrew/Cellar/glfw/X.X/include
  4. sudo cp -R GLFW /usr/include

From MSDN -

CollectionViewSource.GetDefaultView(myGrid.ItemsSource).Refresh();

How to match, but not capture, part of a regex?

Try this:

/\d{3}-(?:(apple|banana)-)?\d{3}/

Define constant variables in C++ header

You could simply define a series of const ints in a header file:

// Constants.h
#if !defined(MYLIB_CONSTANTS_H)
#define MYLIB_CONSTANTS_H 1

const int a = 100;
const int b = 0x7f;

#endif

This works because in C++ a name at namespace scope (including the global namespace) that is explicitly declared const and not explicitly declared extern has internal linkage, so these variables would not cause duplicate symbols when you link together translation units. Alternatively you could explicitly declare the constants as static.

static const int a = 100;
static const int b = 0x7f;

This is more compatible with C and more readable for people that may not be familiar with C++ linkage rules.

If all the constants are ints then another method you could use is to declare the identifiers as enums.

enum mylib_constants {
    a = 100;
    b = 0x7f;
};

All of these methods use only a header and allow the declared names to be used as compile time constants. Using extern const int and a separate implementation file prevents the names from being used as compile time constants.

Note that the rule that makes certain constants implicitly internal linkage does apply to pointers, exactly like constants of other types. The tricky thing though is that marking a pointer as const requires syntax a little different that most people use to make variables of other types const. You need to do:

int * const ptr;

to make a constant pointer, so that the rule will apply to it.

Also note that this is one reason I prefer to consistently put const after the type: int const instead of const int. I also put the * next to the variable: i.e. int *ptr; instead of int* ptr; (compare also this discussion).

I like to do these sorts of things because they reflect the general case of how C++ really works. The alternatives (const int, int* p) are just special cased to make some simple things more readable. The problem is that when you step out of those simple cases, the special cased alternatives become actively misleading.

So although the earlier examples show the common usage of const, I would actually recommend people write them like this:

int const a = 100;
int const b = 0x7f;

and

static int const a = 100;
static int const b = 0x7f;

Is there a way to set background-image as a base64 encoded image?

Try this, I have got success response ..it's working

Session variables in ASP.NET MVC

Because I dislike seeing "HTTPContext.Current.Session" about the place, I use a singleton pattern to access session variables, it gives you an easy to access strongly typed bag of data.

[Serializable]
public sealed class SessionSingleton
{
    #region Singleton

    private const string SESSION_SINGLETON_NAME = "Singleton_502E69E5-668B-E011-951F-00155DF26207";

    private SessionSingleton()
    {

    }

    public static SessionSingleton Current
    {
        get
        {
            if ( HttpContext.Current.Session[SESSION_SINGLETON_NAME] == null )
            {
                HttpContext.Current.Session[SESSION_SINGLETON_NAME] = new SessionSingleton();
            }

            return HttpContext.Current.Session[SESSION_SINGLETON_NAME] as SessionSingleton;
        }
    }

    #endregion

    public string SessionVariable { get; set; }
    public string SessionVariable2 { get; set; }

    // ...

then you can access your data from anywhere:

SessionSingleton.Current.SessionVariable = "Hello, World!";

How can I get a list of all classes within current module in Python?

I don't know if there's a 'proper' way to do it, but your snippet is on the right track: just add import foo to foo.py, do inspect.getmembers(foo), and it should work fine.

How to force a web browser NOT to cache images

You may write a proxy script for serving images - that's a bit more of work though. Something likes this:

HTML:

<img src="image.php?img=imageFile.jpg&some-random-number-262376" />

Script:

// PHP
if( isset( $_GET['img'] ) && is_file( IMG_PATH . $_GET['img'] ) ) {

  // read contents
  $f = open( IMG_PATH . $_GET['img'] );
  $img = $f.read();
  $f.close();

  // no-cache headers - complete set
  // these copied from [php.net/header][1], tested myself - works
  header("Expires: Sat, 26 Jul 1997 05:00:00 GMT"); // Some time in the past
  header("Last-Modified: " . gmdate("D, d M Y H:i:s") . " GMT");
  header("Cache-Control: no-store, no-cache, must-revalidate");
  header("Cache-Control: post-check=0, pre-check=0", false);
  header("Pragma: no-cache");

  // image related headers
  header('Accept-Ranges: bytes');
  header('Content-Length: '.strlen( $img )); // How many bytes we're going to send
  header('Content-Type: image/jpeg'); // or image/png etc

  // actual image
  echo $img;
  exit();
}

Actually either no-cache headers or random number at image src should be sufficient, but since we want to be bullet proof..

Unable to Cast from Parent Class to Child Class

The instance that your base class reference is referring to is not an instance of your child class. There's nothing wrong.

More specifically:

Base derivedInstance = new Derived();
Base baseInstance = new Base();

Derived good = (Derived)derivedInstance; // OK
Derived fail = (Derived)baseInstance; // Throws InvalidCastException

For the cast to be successful, the instance that you're downcasting must be an instance of the class that you're downcasting to (or at least, the class you're downcasting to must be within the instance's class hierarchy), otherwise the cast will fail.

Two options, either reference the new jars in your classpath or unpack all classes in the enclosing jars and re-jar the whole lot! As far as I know packaging jars within jars is not recommeneded and you'll forever have the class not found exception!

Is it valid to replace http:// with // in a <script src="http://...">?

It is guaranteed to work in any mainstream browser (I'm not taking browsers with less than 0.05% market share into consideration). Heck, it works in Internet Explorer 3.0.

RFC 3986 defines a URI as composed of the following parts:

     foo://example.com:8042/over/there?name=ferret#nose
     \_/   \______________/\_________/ \_________/ \__/
      |           |            |            |        |
   scheme     authority       path        query   fragment

When defining relative URIs (Section 5.2), you can omit any of those sections, always starting from the left. In pseudo-code, it looks like this:

 result = ""

  if defined(scheme) then
     append scheme to result;
     append ":" to result;
  endif;

  if defined(authority) then
     append "//" to result;
     append authority to result;
  endif;

  append path to result;

  if defined(query) then
     append "?" to result;
     append query to result;
  endif;

  if defined(fragment) then
     append "#" to result;
     append fragment to result;
  endif;

  return result;

The URI you are describing is a scheme-less relative URI.

How to get the index of an element in an IEnumerable?

The whole point of getting things out as IEnumerable is so you can lazily iterate over the contents. As such, there isn't really a concept of an index. What you are doing really doesn't make a lot of sense for an IEnumerable. If you need something that supports access by index, put it in an actual list or collection.

How to swap two variables in JavaScript

Since ES6, you can also swap variables more elegantly:

[a, b] = [b, a];

console.log('a:', a, 'b:', b); // a: 2 b: 1

Reading an image file into bitmap from sdcard, why am I getting a NullPointerException?

The MediaStore API is probably throwing away the alpha channel (i.e. decoding to RGB565). If you have a file path, just use BitmapFactory directly, but tell it to use a format that preserves alpha:

BitmapFactory.Options options = new BitmapFactory.Options();
options.inPreferredConfig = Bitmap.Config.ARGB_8888;
Bitmap bitmap = BitmapFactory.decodeFile(photoPath, options);
selected_photo.setImageBitmap(bitmap);

How do files get into the External Dependencies in Visual Studio C++?

To resolve external dependencies within project. below things are important..
1. The compiler should know that where are header '.h' files located in workspace.
2. The linker able to find all specified all '.lib' files & there names for current project.

So, Developer has to specify external dependencies for Project as below..

1. Select Project in Solution explorer.

2 . Project Properties -> Configuration Properties -> C/C++ -> General
specify all header files in "Additional Include Directories".

3. Project Properties -> Configuration Properties -> Linker -> General
specify relative path for all lib files in "Additional Library Directories".

Export a list into a CSV or TXT file in R

So essentially you have a list of lists, with mylist being the name of the main list and the first element being $f10010_1 which is printed out (and which contains 4 more lists).

I think the easiest way to do this is to use lapply with the addition of dataframe (assuming that each list inside each element of the main list (like the lists in $f10010_1) has the same length):

lapply(mylist, function(x) write.table( data.frame(x), 'test.csv'  , append= T, sep=',' ))

The above will convert $f10010_1 into a dataframe then do the same with every other element and append one below the other in 'test.csv'

You can also type ?write.table on your console to check what other arguments you need to pass when you write the table to a csv file e.g. whether you need row names or column names etc.

Find non-ASCII characters in varchar columns using SQL Server

This script searches for non-ascii characters in one column. It generates a string of all valid characters, here code point 32 to 127. Then it searches for rows that don't match the list:

declare @str varchar(128)
declare @i int
set @str = ''
set @i = 32
while @i <= 127
    begin
    set @str = @str + '|' + char(@i)
    set @i = @i + 1
    end

select  col1
from    YourTable
where   col1 like '%[^' + @str + ']%' escape '|'

Git Clone - Repository not found

I was also having same issue. I was trying to clone the repo which was private and my git installed in osx has keychain which was not allowing me to clone the repo...

I tried

git clone https://username:[email protected]/NAME/repo.git

but it didn't work as my password was containing the field @.

I just ran

git credential-osxkeychain erase
host=github.com
protocol=https

command and press enter and it worked perfectly fine. Actually you need to remove the keychain already stored in the osx.

top -c command in linux to filter processes listed based on processname

It can be done interactively

After running top -c , hit o and write a filter on a column, e.g. to show rows where COMMAND column contains the string foo, write COMMAND=foo

If you just want some basic output this might be enough:

top -bc |grep name_of_process

NotificationCenter issue on Swift 3

Swift 3 & 4

Swift 3, and now Swift 4, have replaced many "stringly-typed" APIs with struct "wrapper types", as is the case with NotificationCenter. Notifications are now identified by a struct Notfication.Name rather than by String. For more details see the now legacy Migrating to Swift 3 guide

Swift 2.2 usage:

// Define identifier
let notificationIdentifier: String = "NotificationIdentifier"

// Register to receive notification
NSNotificationCenter.defaultCenter().addObserver(self, selector: #selector(YourClassName.methodOfReceivedNotification(_:)), name: notificationIdentifier, object: nil)

// Post a notification
NSNotificationCenter.defaultCenter().postNotificationName(notificationIdentifier, object: nil)

Swift 3 & 4 usage:

// Define identifier
let notificationName = Notification.Name("NotificationIdentifier")

// Register to receive notification
NotificationCenter.default.addObserver(self, selector: #selector(YourClassName.methodOfReceivedNotification), name: notificationName, object: nil)

// Post notification
NotificationCenter.default.post(name: notificationName, object: nil)

// Stop listening notification
NotificationCenter.default.removeObserver(self, name: notificationName, object: nil)

All of the system notification types are now defined as static constants on Notification.Name; i.e. .UIApplicationDidFinishLaunching, .UITextFieldTextDidChange, etc.

You can extend Notification.Name with your own custom notifications in order to stay consistent with the system notifications:

// Definition:
extension Notification.Name {
    static let yourCustomNotificationName = Notification.Name("yourCustomNotificationName")
}

// Usage:
NotificationCenter.default.post(name: .yourCustomNotificationName, object: nil)

Swift 4.2 usage:

Same as Swift 4, except now system notifications names are part of UIApplication. So in order to stay consistent with the system notifications you can extend UIApplication with your own custom notifications instead of Notification.Name :

// Definition:
UIApplication {
    public static let yourCustomNotificationName = Notification.Name("yourCustomNotificationName")
}

// Usage:
NotificationCenter.default.post(name: UIApplication.yourCustomNotificationName, object: nil)

Change Placeholder Text using jQuery

The plugin doesn't look very robust. If you call .placeholder() again, it creates a new Placeholder instance while events are still bound to the old one.

Looking at the code, it looks like you could do:

$("#serMemtb").attr("placeholder", "Type a name (Lastname, Firstname)").blur();

EDIT

placeholder is an HTML5 attribute, guess who's not supporting it?

Your plugin doesn't really seem to help you overcome the fact that IE doesn't support it, so while my solution works, your plugin doesn't. Why don't you find one that does.

Bootstrap 4 dropdown with search

I could not find a standard control and had 0 intention to use a library such as bootstrap select so I custom made this widget. Bootstrap 4 allows you to add forms inside your dropdown which is what I have used here. I added a search box, used an input event to capture the text entered by the user inside the box, If the phrase entered by the user starts with the items inside the box, I show the items else I hide them. I also handle the click event on any item to change the text of the dropdown button

UPDATE 1

The code above uses show() and hide() inside a loop which is why the UI is slow when you clear everything you typed in case you didn't notice. Instead of that, use .css({display: 'none'}) and .css({display: 'block'})

build failed with: ld: duplicate symbol _OBJC_CLASS_$_Algebra5FirstViewController

I got this issue because I accidentally imported the .m instead of the .h. Hope reading this saves someone with same problem some time.

PostgreSQL column 'foo' does not exist

As others suggested in comments, this is probably a matter of upper-case versus lower-case, or some whitespace in the column name. (I'm using an answer so I can format some code samples.) To see what the column names really are, try running this query:

SELECT '"' || attname || '"', char_length(attname)
  FROM pg_attribute
  WHERE attrelid = 'table_name'::regclass AND attnum > 0
  ORDER BY attnum;

You should probably also check your PostgreSQL server log if you can, to see what it reports for the statement.

If you quote an identifier, everything in quotes is part of the identifier, including upper-case characters, line endings, spaces, and special characters. The only exception is that two adjacent quote characters are taken as an escape sequence for one quote character. When an identifier is not in quotes, all letters are folded to lower-case. Here's an example of normal behavior:

test=# create table t (alpha text, Bravo text, "Charlie" text, "delta " text);
CREATE TABLE
test=# select * from t where Alpha is null;
 alpha | bravo | Charlie | delta
-------+-------+---------+--------
(0 rows)

test=# select * from t where bravo is null;
 alpha | bravo | Charlie | delta
-------+-------+---------+--------
(0 rows)

test=# select * from t where Charlie is null;
ERROR: column "charlie" does not exist
LINE 1: select * from t where Charlie is null;
                              ^
test=# select * from t where delta is null;
ERROR: column "delta" does not exist
LINE 1: select * from t where delta is null;
                              ^

The query I showed at the top yields this:

 ?column?  | char_length
-----------+-------------
 "alpha"   |           5
 "bravo"   |           5
 "Charlie" |           7
 "delta "  |           6
(4 rows)

Converting Varchar Value to Integer/Decimal Value in SQL Server

You are getting arithmetic overflow. this means you are trying to make a conversion impossible to be made. This error is thrown when you try to make a conversion and the destiny data type is not enough to convert the origin data. For example:

If you try to convert 100.52 to decimal(4,2) you will get this error. The number 100.52 requires 5 positions and 2 of them are decimal.

Try to change the decimal precision to something like 16,2 or higher. Try with few records first then use it to all your select.

Convert Current date to integer

If you need only an integer representing elapsed days since Jan. 1, 1970, you can try these:

// magic number=
// millisec * sec * min * hours
// 1000 * 60 * 60 * 24 = 86400000
public static final long MAGIC=86400000L;

public int DateToDays (Date date){
    // convert a date to an integer and back again
    long currentTime=date.getTime();
    currentTime=currentTime/MAGIC;
    return (int) currentTime;
}

public Date DaysToDate(int days) {
    // convert integer back again to a date
    long currentTime=(long) days*MAGIC;
    return new Date(currentTime);
}

Shorter but less readable (slightly faster?):

public static final long MAGIC=86400000L;

public int DateToDays (Date date){
    return (int) (date.getTime()/MAGIC);
}

public Date DaysToDate(int days) {
    return new Date((long) days*MAGIC);
}

Hope this helps.

EDIT: This could work until Fri Jul 11 01:00:00 CET 5881580

How do I convert a number to a numeric, comma-separated formatted string?

remove the commas with a replace and convert:

CONVERT(INT,REPLACE([varName],',',''))

where varName is the name of the variable that has numeric values in it with commas

What are the different usecases of PNG vs. GIF vs. JPEG vs. SVG?

GIF is limited to 256 colors and do not support real transparency. You should use PNG instead of GIF because it offers better compression and features. PNG is great for small and simple images like logos, icons, etc.

JPEG has better compression with complex images like photos.

Jquery to open Bootstrap v3 modal of remote url

A different perspective to the same problem away from Javascript and using php:

<a data-toggle="modal" href="#myModal">LINK</a>

<div class="modal fade" tabindex="-1" aria-labelledby="gridSystemModalLabel" id="myModal" role="dialog" style="max-width: 90%;">
    <div class="modal-dialog" style="text-align: left;">
        <div class="modal-content">
            <div class="modal-header">
                <button type="button" class="close" data-dismiss="modal">&times;</button>
                <h4 class="modal-title">Title</h4>
            </div>
            <div class="modal-body">
                <?php include( 'remotefile.php'); ?>
            </div>
            <div class="modal-footer">
                <button type="button" class="btn btn-default" data-dismiss="modal">Close</button>
            </div>
        </div>
    </div>
</div>

and put in the remote.php file your basic html source.

PermGen elimination in JDK 8

Oracle's JVM implementation for Java 8 got rid of the PermGen model and replaced it with Metaspace.

python filter list of dictionaries based on key value

You can try a list comp

>>> exampleSet = [{'type':'type1'},{'type':'type2'},{'type':'type2'}, {'type':'type3'}]
>>> keyValList = ['type2','type3']
>>> expectedResult = [d for d in exampleSet if d['type'] in keyValList]
>>> expectedResult
[{'type': 'type2'}, {'type': 'type2'}, {'type': 'type3'}]

Another way is by using filter

>>> list(filter(lambda d: d['type'] in keyValList, exampleSet))
[{'type': 'type2'}, {'type': 'type2'}, {'type': 'type3'}]

Array initialization syntax when not in a declaration

Why is this blocked by Java?

You'd have to ask the Java designers. There might be some subtle grammatical reason for the restriction. Note that some of the array creation / initialization constructs were not in Java 1.0, and (IIRC) were added in Java 1.1.

But "why" is immaterial ... the restriction is there, and you have to live with it.

I know how to work around it, but from time to time it would be simpler.

You can write this:

AClass[] array;
...
array = new AClass[]{object1, object2};

Apply a theme to an activity in Android?

Before you call setContentView(), call setTheme(android.R.style...) and just replace the ... with the theme that you want(Theme, Theme_NoTitleBar, etc.).

Or if your theme is a custom theme, then replace the entire thing, so you get setTheme(yourThemesResouceId)

Receiving "Attempted import error:" in react app

This is another option:

export default function Counter() {

}

How to add new line into txt file

You could do it easily using

File.AppendAllText("date.txt", DateTime.Now.ToString());

If you need newline

File.AppendAllText("date.txt",
                   DateTime.Now.ToString() + Environment.NewLine);

Anyway if you need your code do this:

TextWriter tw = new StreamWriter("date.txt", true);

with second parameter telling to append to file.
Check here StreamWriter syntax.

SOAP client in .NET - references or examples?

Take a look at "using WCF Services with PHP". It explains the basics of what you need.

As a theory summary:

WCF or Windows Communication Foundation is a technology that allow to define services abstracted from the way - the underlying communication method - they'll be invoked.

The idea is that you define a contract about what the service does and what the service offers and also define another contract about which communication method is used to actually consume the service, be it TCP, HTTP or SOAP.

You have the first part of the article here, explaining how to create a very basic WCF Service.

More resources:

Using WCF with PHP5.

Aslo take a look to NuSOAP. If you now NuSphere this is a toolkit to let you connect from PHP to an WCF service.

Remote Connections Mysql Ubuntu

Add few points on top of apesa's excellent post:

1) You can use command below to check the ip address mysql server is listening

netstat -nlt | grep 3306

sample result:

You seem to not be depending on "@angular/core". This is an error

I got the same issue, and the reason is

  1. when you run ng new app-name it will create a new directory with app name and install everything in that.
  2. after running the above command, human tendency is to run ng serve and because your app is in sub directory it will not find package.json and throw the mentioned error.

Solution is pretty simple. just move to the sub directory and then run ng serve

Latex Remove Spaces Between Items in List

\vspace{\baselineskip} % new line after list

Xcode 4 - "Archive" is greyed out?

As the other answers state, you need to select an active scheme to something that is not a simulator, i.e. a device that's connected to your mac.

If you have no device connected to the mac then selecting "Generic IOS Device" works also.

Elasticsearch: Failed to connect to localhost port 9200 - Connection refused

By default it should bind to all local addresses. So, assuming you don't have a network layer issue with firewalls, the only ES setting I can think to check is network.bind_host and make sure it is either not set or is set to 0.0.0.0 or ::0 or to the correct IP address for your network.

Update: per comments in ES 2.3 you should set network.host instead.

Start and stop a timer PHP

Also you can use HRTime package. It has a class StopWatch.

In Python, how do I convert all of the items in a list to floats?

This is how I would do it.

my_list = ['0.49', '0.54', '0.54', '0.54', '0.54', '0.54', '0.55', '0.54',
    '0.54', '0.54', '0.55', '0.55', '0.55', '0.54', '0.55', '0.55', '0.54',
    '0.55', '0.55', '0.54']
print type(my_list[0]) # prints <type 'str'>
my_list = [float(i) for i in my_list]
print type(my_list[0]) # prints <type 'float'>
