You could change /usr/bin/python3 for your path to python3 (or the version you want).

But keep in mind that update-alternatives is probably the best choice.

How to do ToString for a possibly null object?

I disagree with that this:

String s = myObj == null ? "" : myObj.ToString();

is a hack in any way. I think it's a good example of clear code. It's absolutely obvious what you want to achieve and that you're expecting null.

UPDATE:

I see now that you were not saying that this was a hack. But it's implied in the question that you think this way is not the way to go. In my mind it's definitely the clearest solution.

Is it possible to GROUP BY multiple columns using MySQL?

To use a simple example, I had a counter that needed to summarise unique IP addresses per visited page on a site. Which is basically grouping by pagename and then by IP. I solved it with a combination of DISTINCT and GROUP BY.

What database server? This code doesn't work on all of them.

Regarding the second half of your question, it seems reasonable to me to include the status as a column. You can leave DocumentStatusLogs as a log, but still store the latest info in the main table.

BTW, if you already have the DateCreated column in the Documents table you can just join DocumentStatusLogs using that (as long as DateCreated is unique in DocumentStatusLogs).

Edit: MsSQL does not support USING, so change it to:

Based on above details, I think you have done last thing first. If you run Update database before Add-migration, it won't update the database with your migration schemas. First you need to add the migration and then run update command.

Try them in this order using package manager console.

Running scripts can be terminated from the Task Manager.

However, scripts that perpetually focus program windows using .AppActivate may make it very difficult to get to the task manager -i.e you and the script will be fighting for control. Hence i recommend writing a script (which i call self destruct for obvious reasons) and make a keyboard shortcut key to activate the script.

One way is to call A's constructor and pass self as an argument, like so:

The advantage of this style is that it's very clear. It call A's initialiser. The downside is that it doesn't handle diamond-shaped inheritance very well, since you may end up calling the shared base class's initialiser twice.

Another way is to use super(), as others have shown. For single-inheritance, it does basically the same thing as letting you call the parent's initialiser.

However, super() is quite a bit more complicated under-the-hood and can sometimes be counter-intuitive in multiple inheritance situations. On the plus side, super() can be used to handle diamond-shaped inheritance. If you want to know the nitty-gritty of what super() does, the best explanation I've found for how super() works is here (though I'm not necessarily endorsing that article's opinions).

If you plan on modifying your simulate function to include more return codes, maintaining this code might become a bit of an issue.

You should consider to get a version number from an API.

Instead of connecting to external APIs or webpages (like Google Play Store). There is a risk that something may change in the API or the webpage, so you should consider to check if the version code of the current app is below the version number you get from your own API.

I would recommend that you make a file in your own website or API, with the version number. (Eventually make a cronjob and make the version update automatic, and send a notification when something goes wrong)

You can't.. You would have to know:

  • How far is the object (you can know your location from GPS.. but the object's location?)
  • What is the focal length of the camera

Maybe, just maybe if the object was optically tagged with for example a QR code, and you have a code-to-loc map...

For Restful API, can GET method use json data?

In theory, there's nothing preventing you from sending a request body in a GET request. The HTTP protocol allows it, but have no defined semantics, so it's up to you to document what exactly is going to happen when a client sends a GET payload. For instance, you have to define if parameters in a JSON body are equivalent to querystring parameters or something else entirely.

However, since there are no clearly defined semantics, you have no guarantee that implementations between your application and the client will respect it. A server or proxy might reject the whole request, or ignore the body, or anything else. The REST way to deal with broken implementations is to circumvent it in a way that's decoupled from your application, so I'd say you have two options that can be considered best practices.

The simple option is to use POST instead of GET as recommended by other answers. Since POST is not standardized by HTTP, you'll have to document how exactly that's supposed to work.

Another option, which I prefer, is to implement your application assuming the GET payload is never tampered with. Then, in case something has a broken implementation, you allow clients to override the HTTP method with the X-HTTP-Method-Override, which is a popular convention for clients to emulate HTTP methods with POST. So, if a client has a broken implementation, it can write the GET request as a POST, sending the X-HTTP-Method-Override: GET method, and you can have a middleware that's decoupled from your application implementation and rewrites the method accordingly. This is the best option if you're a purist.

Actually this is not a duplicate question. And this how i solve my problem after several times :

This is the way to get offset from desired timezone.

Let's return to our code, we were getting timestamp from a result set of query, and using it with timezone to create our datetime.

Now we will add our offset to the datetime, and get the timestamp from it.

The simple answer for this one is that you have an undeclared (null) variable. In this case it is $md5. From the comment you put this needed to be declared elsewhere in your code

Mootools redefines preventDefault in Event objects. So your code should work fine on every browser. If it doesn't, then there's a problem with ie8 support in mootools.

Marco's answer above is correct, but just to expand on the question of "under what context"...

frame - this is the property you most often use for normal iPhone applications. most controls will be laid out relative to the "containing" control so the frame.origin will directly correspond to where the control needs to display, and frame.size will determine how big to make the control.

center - this is the property you will likely focus on for sprite based games and animations where movement or scaling may occur. By default animation and rotation will be based on the center of the UIView. It rarely makes sense to try and manage such objects by the frame property.

bounds - this property is not a positioning property, but defines the drawable area of the UIView "relative" to the frame. By default this property is usually (0, 0, width, height). Changing this property will allow you to draw outside of the frame or restrict drawing to a smaller area within the frame. A good discussion of this can be found at the link below. It is uncommon for this property to be manipulated unless there is specific need to adjust the drawing region. The only exception is that most programs will use the [[UIScreen mainScreen] bounds] on startup to determine the visible area for the application and setup their initial UIView's frame accordingly.

The result of equals in your example is obviously false because you are comparing the map a with some values in it with an empty map b (probably a copy and paste error). I recommend to use proper variable names (so you can avoid these kinds of errors) and make use of generics, too.

How many files can I put in a directory?

Not an answer, but just some suggestions.

Select a more suitable FS (file system). Since from a historic point of view, all your issues were wise enough, to be once central to FSs evolving over decades. I mean more modern FS better support your issues. First make a comparison decision table based on your ultimate purpose from FS list.

I think its time to shift your paradigms. So I personally suggest using a distributed system aware FS, which means no limits at all regarding size, number of files and etc. Otherwise you will sooner or later challenged by new unanticipated problems.

I'm not sure to work, but if you don't mention some experimentation, give AUFS over your current file system a try. I guess it has facilities to mimic multiple folders as a single virtual folder.

To overcome hardware limits you can use RAID-0.

How can I measure the similarity between two images?

Use a normalised colour histogram. (Read the section on applications here), they are commonly used in image retrieval/matching systems and are a standard way of matching images that is very reliable, relatively fast and very easy to implement.

Essentially a colour histogram will capture the colour distribution of the image. This can then be compared with another image to see if the colour distributions match.

This type of matching is pretty resiliant to scaling (once the histogram is normalised), and rotation/shifting/movement etc.

Avoid pixel-by-pixel comparisons as if the image is rotated/shifted slightly it may lead to a large difference being reported.

Histograms would be straightforward to generate yourself (assuming you can get access to pixel values), but if you don't feel like it, the OpenCV library is a great resource for doing this kind of stuff. Here is a powerpoint presentation that shows you how to create a histogram using OpenCV.

Just my two cents. If you are using Bootstrap 3 then I would just add an extra style into your own site's stylesheet which controls the text-left style of the control-label.

If you were to add text-left to the label, by default there is another style which overrides this .form-horizontal .control-label. So if you add:

Then the built in text-left style is applied to the label correctly.

If you know what column the text/pattern you're looking for (e.g. "yyy") is in, you can just check that specific column to see if it matches, and print it.

For example, given a file with the following contents, (called asdf.txt)

Local Storage vs Cookies

In the context of JWTs, Stormpath have written a fairly helpful article outlining possible ways to store them, and the (dis-)advantages pertaining to each method.

It also has a short overview of XSS and CSRF attacks, and how you can combat them.

I've attached some short snippets of the article below, in case their article is taken offline/their site goes down.

Local Storage

Problems:

Web Storage (localStorage/sessionStorage) is accessible through JavaScript on the same domain. This means that any JavaScript running on your site will have access to web storage, and because of this can be vulnerable to cross-site scripting (XSS) attacks. XSS in a nutshell is a type of vulnerability where an attacker can inject JavaScript that will run on your page. Basic XSS attacks attempt to inject JavaScript through form inputs, where the attacker puts alert('You are Hacked'); into a form to see if it is run by the browser and can be viewed by other users.

Prevention:

To prevent XSS, the common response is to escape and encode all untrusted data. But this is far from the full story. In 2015, modern web apps use JavaScript hosted on CDNs or outside infrastructure. Modern web apps include 3rd party JavaScript libraries for A/B testing, funnel/market analysis, and ads. We use package managers like Bower to import other peoples’ code into our apps.

What if only one of the scripts you use is compromised? Malicious JavaScript can be embedded on the page, and Web Storage is compromised. These types of XSS attacks can get everyone’s Web Storage that visits your site, without their knowledge. This is probably why a bunch of organizations advise not to store anything of value or trust any information in web storage. This includes session identifiers and tokens.

As a storage mechanism, Web Storage does not enforce any secure standards during transfer. Whoever reads Web Storage and uses it must do their due diligence to ensure they always send the JWT over HTTPS and never HTTP.

Cookies

Problems:

Cookies, when used with the HttpOnly cookie flag, are not accessible through JavaScript, and are immune to XSS. You can also set the Secure cookie flag to guarantee the cookie is only sent over HTTPS. This is one of the main reasons that cookies have been leveraged in the past to store tokens or session data. Modern developers are hesitant to use cookies because they traditionally required state to be stored on the server, thus breaking RESTful best practices. Cookies as a storage mechanism do not require state to be stored on the server if you are storing a JWT in the cookie. This is because the JWT encapsulates everything the server needs to serve the request.

However, cookies are vulnerable to a different type of attack: cross-site request forgery (CSRF). A CSRF attack is a type of attack that occurs when a malicious web site, email, or blog causes a user’s web browser to perform an unwanted action on a trusted site on which the user is currently authenticated. This is an exploit of how the browser handles cookies. A cookie can only be sent to the domains in which it is allowed. By default, this is the domain that originally set the cookie. The cookie will be sent for a request regardless of whether you are on galaxies.com or hahagonnahackyou.com.

Prevention:

Modern browsers support the SameSite flag, in addition to HttpOnly and Secure. The purpose of this flag is to prevent the cookie from being transmitted in cross-site requests, preventing many kinds of CSRF attack.

For browsers that do not support SameSite, CSRF can be prevented by using synchronized token patterns. This sounds complicated, but all modern web frameworks have support for this.

For example, AngularJS has a solution to validate that the cookie is accessible by only your domain. Straight from AngularJS docs:

When performing XHR requests, the $http service reads a token from a cookie (by default, XSRF-TOKEN) and sets it as an HTTP header (X-XSRF-TOKEN). Since only JavaScript that runs on your domain can read the cookie, your server can be assured that the XHR came from JavaScript running on your domain. You can make this CSRF protection stateless by including a xsrfToken JWT claim:

Leveraging your web app framework’s CSRF protection makes cookies rock solid for storing a JWT. CSRF can also be partially prevented by checking the HTTP Referer and Origin header from your API. CSRF attacks will have Referer and Origin headers that are unrelated to your application.

Yes, you need to use global foo if you are going to write to it.

I don't like setting CLASSPATH. CLASSPATH is a global variable and as such it is evil:

  • If you modify it in one script, suddenly some java programs will stop working.
  • If you put there the libraries for all the things which you run, and it gets cluttered.
  • You get conflicts if two different applications use different versions of the same library.
  • There is no performance gain as libraries in the CLASSPATH are not shared - just their name is shared.
  • If you put the dot (.) or any other relative path in the CLASSPATH that means a different thing in each place - that will cause confusion, for sure.

Therefore the preferred way is to set the classpath per each run of the jvm, for example:

Declaring a PRIMARY KEY or UNIQUE constraint causes SQL Server to automatically create an index.

An unique index can be created without matching a constraint, but a constraint (either primary key or unique) cannot exist without having a unique index.

From here, the creation of a constraint will:

  • cause an index with the same name to be created
  • deny dropping the created index as constraint is not allowed to exists without it

and at the same time dropping the constraint will drop the associated index.

So, is there actual difference between a PRIMARY KEY or UNIQUE INDEX:

  • NULL values are not allowed in PRIMARY KEY, but allowed in UNIQUE index; and like in set operators (UNION, EXCEPT, INTERSECT), here NULL = NULL which means that you can have only one value as two NULLs are find as duplicates of each other;

Specifically, if you are dealing with a UserForm, then you might try the Repaint method. You might encounter an issue with DoEvents if you are using event triggers in your form. For instance, any keys pressed while a function is running will be sent by DoEvents The keyboard input will be processed before the screen is updated, so if you are changing cells on a spreadsheet by holding down one of the arrow keys on the keyboard, then the cell change event will keep firing before the main function finishes.

A UserForm will not be refreshed in some cases, because DoEvents will fire the events; however, Repaint will update the UserForm and the user will see the changes on the screen even when another event immediately follows the previous event.

In the Unix world, there were a few possible arrangements for the sizes of integers and pointers for 64-bit platforms. The two mostly widely used were ILP64 (actually, only a very few examples of this; Cray was one such) and LP64 (for almost everything else). The acronynms come from 'int, long, pointers are 64-bit' and 'long, pointers are 64-bit'.

The ILP64 system was abandoned in favour of LP64 (that is, almost all later entrants used LP64, based on the recommendations of the Aspen group; only systems with a long heritage of 64-bit operation use a different scheme). All modern 64-bit Unix systems use LP64. MacOS X and Linux are both modern 64-bit systems.

Microsoft uses a different scheme for transitioning to 64-bit: LLP64 ('long long, pointers are 64-bit'). This has the merit of meaning that 32-bit software can be recompiled without change. It has the demerit of being different from what everyone else does, and also requires code to be revised to exploit 64-bit capacities. There always was revision necessary; it was just a different set of revisions from the ones needed on Unix platforms.

If you design your software around platform-neutral integer type names, probably using the C99 <inttypes.h> header, which, when the types are available on the platform, provides, in signed (listed) and unsigned (not listed; prefix with 'u'):

  • int8_t - 8-bit integers
  • int16_t - 16-bit integers
  • int32_t - 32-bit integers
  • int64_t - 64-bit integers
  • uintptr_t - unsigned integers big enough to hold pointers
  • intmax_t - biggest size of integer on the platform (might be larger than int64_t)

You can then code your application using these types where it matters, and being very careful with system types (which might be different). There is an intptr_t type - a signed integer type for holding pointers; you should plan on not using it, or only using it as the result of a subtraction of two uintptr_t values (ptrdiff_t).

But, as the question points out (in disbelief), there are different systems for the sizes of the integer data types on 64-bit machines. Get used to it; the world isn't going to change.

Using an absolute path (one that starts with '/') means that the current package is ignored.

No, you can have pointers to stack allocated objects:

The XML (extensible Markup Language) is used often XHR because this is a standard broadcasting language, what can be used by any programming language, and supported both server and client side, so this is the most flexible solution. The XML can be separated for more parts so a specified group can develop the part of the program, without affecting the other parts. The XML format can also be determined by the XML DTD or XML Schema (XSL) and can be tested.

The JSON a data-exchange format which is getting more popular as the JavaScript applications possible format. Basically this is an object notation array. JSON has a very simple syntax so can be easily learned. And also the JavaScript support parsing JSON with the eval function. On the other hand, the eval function has got negatives. For example, the program can be very slow parsing JSON and because of security the eval can be very risky. This not mean that the JSON is not good, just we have to be more careful.

My suggestion is that you should use JSON for applications with light data-exchange, like games. Because you don't have to really care about the data-processing, this is very simple and fast.

The XML is best for the bigger websites, for example shopping sites or something like this. The XML can be more secure and clear. You can create basic data-struct and schema to easily test the correction and separate it into parts easily.

I suggest you use XML because of the speed and the security, but JSON for lightweight stuff.

java.lang.IllegalAccessError: tried to access method

In my case I was getting this error running my app in wildfly with the .ear deployed from eclipse. Because it was deployed from eclipse, the deployment folder did not contain an .ear file, but a folder representing it, and inside of it all the jars that would have been contained in the .ear file; like if the ear was unzipped.

Sorting an array in C?

It depends on various things. But in general algorithms using a Divide-and-Conquer / dichotomic approach will perform well for sorting problems as they present interesting average-case complexities.

Basics

To understand which algorithms work best, you will need basic knowledge of algorithms complexity and big-O notation, so you can understand how they rate in terms of average case, best case and worst case scenarios. If required, you'd also have to pay attention to the sorting algorithm's stability.

For instance, usually an efficient algorithm is quicksort. However, if you give quicksort a perfectly inverted list, then it will perform poorly (a simple selection sort will perform better in that case!). Shell-sort would also usually be a good complement to quicksort if you perform a pre-analysis of your list.

Being able to re-build the original production code with no optimizations is a tremendous help for debugging. (NOTE: This assumes testing was done with the optimized version of the program).

Nested attributes are in the form of a hash. In my app, I have a Question.rb model accept nested attributes for an Answer.rb model (where the user creates answer choices for a question he creates). In the questions_controller, I do this

  end

Everything in the question hash is permitted, including the nested answer attributes. This also works if the nested attributes are in the form of an array.

Having said that, I wonder if there's a security concern with this approach because it basically permits anything that's inside the hash without specifying exactly what it is, which seems contrary to the purpose of strong parameters.

What does "if (rs.next())" mean?

As to the concrete problem with that SQLException, you need to replace

ResultSet rs = stmt.executeQuery(sql);

by

ResultSet rs = stmt.executeQuery();

because you're using the PreparedStatement subclass instead of Statement. When using PreparedStatement, you've already passed in the SQL string to Connection#prepareStatement(). You just have to set the parameters on it and then call executeQuery() method directly without re-passing the SQL string.

New Array from Index Range Swift

#1. Using Array subscript with range

With Swift 5, when you write…

let newNumbers = numbers[0...position]

newNumbers is not of type Array<Int> but is of type ArraySlice<Int>. That's because Array's subscript(_:?) returns an ArraySlice<Element> that, according to Apple, presents a view onto the storage of some larger array.

Besides, Swift also provides Array an initializer called init(_:?) that allows us to create a new array from a sequence (including ArraySlice).

Therefore, you can use subscript(_:?) with init(_:?) in order to get a new array from the first n elements of an array:

let array = Array(10...14) // [10, 11, 12, 13, 14]
let arraySlice = array[0..<3] // using Range
//let arraySlice = array[0...2] // using ClosedRange also works
//let arraySlice = array[..<3] // using PartialRangeUpTo also works
//let arraySlice = array[...2] // using PartialRangeThrough also works
let newArray = Array(arraySlice)
print(newArray) // prints [10, 11, 12]

#2. Using Array's prefix(_:) method

Swift provides a prefix(_:) method for types that conform to Collection protocol (including Array). prefix(_:) has the following declaration:

func prefix(_ maxLength: Int) -> ArraySlice<Element>

Returns a subsequence, up to maxLength in length, containing the initial elements.

Apple also states:

If the maximum length exceeds the number of elements in the collection, the result contains all the elements in the collection.

Therefore, as an alternative to the previous example, you can use the following code in order to create a new array from the first elements of another array:

let array = Array(10...14) // [10, 11, 12, 13, 14]
let arraySlice = array.prefix(3)
let newArray = Array(arraySlice)
print(newArray) // prints [10, 11, 12]
