How to Avoid Response.End() "Thread was being aborted" Exception during the Excel file download

Use a special catch block for the exception of the Response.End() method

{
    ...
    context.Response.End(); //always throws an exception

}
catch (ThreadAbortException e)
{
    //this is special for the Response.end exception
}
catch (Exception e)
{
     context.Response.ContentType = "text/plain";
     context.Response.Write(e.Message);
}

Or just remove the Response.End() if your building a filehandler

Deciding between HttpClient and WebClient

Perhaps you could think about the problem in a different way. WebClient and HttpClient are essentially different implementations of the same thing. What I recommend is implementing the Dependency Injection pattern with an IoC Container throughout your application. You should construct a client interface with a higher level of abstraction than the low level HTTP transfer. You can write concrete classes that use both WebClient and HttpClient, and then use the IoC container to inject the implementation via config.

What this would allow you to do would be to switch between HttpClient and WebClient easily so that you are able to objectively test in the production environment.

So questions like:

Will HttpClient be a better design choice if we upgrade to .Net 4.5?

Can actually be objectively answered by switching between the two client implementations using the IoC container. Here is an example interface that you might depend on that doesn't include any details about HttpClient or WebClient.

/// Dependency Injection abstraction for rest clients.
/// </summary>

{
    /// <summary>

HttpClient Implementation

You can use Task.Run to make WebClient run asynchronously in its implementation.

Dependency Injection, when done well helps alleviate the problem of having to make low level decisions upfront. Ultimately, the only way to know the true answer is try both in a live environment and see which one works the best. It's quite possible that WebClient may work better for some customers, and HttpClient may work better for others. This is why abstraction is important. It means that code can quickly be swapped in, or changed with configuration without changing the fundamental design of the app.

BTW: there are numerous other reasons that you should use an abstraction instead of directly calling one of these low-level APIs. One huge one being unit-testability.

What is and how to fix System.TypeInitializationException error?

I experienced the System.TypeInitializationException due to a different error in my .NET framework 4 project's app.config. Thank you to pStan for getting me to look at the app.config. My configSections were properly defined. However, an undefined element within one of the sections caused the exception to be thrown.

Bottom line is that problems in the app.config can generated this very misleading TypeInitializationException.

A more meaningful ConfigurationErrorsException can be generated by the same error in the app.config by waiting to access the config values until you are within a method rather than at the class level of the code.

using System;
using System.Collections.Generic;
using System.Linq;
using System.Text;
using System.Configuration;

        public static string machinename;
        public static string hostname;
        public static NameValueCollection _AppSettings;

        static void Main(string[] args)
        {
            machinename = System.Net.Dns.GetHostName().ToLower();
            hostname = "abc.com";// System.Net.Dns.GetHostEntry(System.Net.Dns.GetHostName()).HostName.ToLower().Replace(machinename + ".", "");
            _AppSettings = ConfigurationManager.GetSection("domain/" + hostname) as System.Collections.Specialized.NameValueCollection;
        }
    }
}

Win32Exception (0x80004005): The wait operation timed out

We encountered this error after an upgrade from 2008 to 2014 SQL Server where our some of our previous connection strings for local development had a Data Source=./ like this

        <add name="MyLocalDatabase" connectionString="Data Source=./;Initial Catalog=SomeCatalog;Integrated Security=SSPI;Application Name=MyApplication;"/>

Changing that from ./ to either (local) or localhost fixed the problem.

<add name="MyLocalDatabase" connectionString="Data Source=(local);Initial Catalog=SomeCatalog;Integrated Security=SSPI;Application Name=MyApplication;"/>

Export data to Excel file with ASP.NET MVC 4 C# is rendering into view

I used a list in my controller class to set data into grid view. The code works fine for me:

public ActionResult ExpExcl()
{
  List<PersonModel> person= new List<PersonModel>
   {
    new PersonModel() {FirstName= "Jenny", LastName="Mathew", Age= 23},
    new PersonModel() {FirstName= "Paul", LastName="Meehan", Age=25}
   };
   var grid= new GridView();
   grid.DataSource= person;
   grid.DataBind();

   Response.ClearContent();
   Response.AddHeader("content-disposition","attachement; filename=data.xls");
   Response.ContentType="application/excel";
   StringWriter sw= new StringWriter();
   HtmlTextWriter htw= new HtmlTextWriter(sw);
   grid.RenderControl(htw);
   Response.Output.Write(sw.ToString());
   Response.Flush();
   Response.End();
   return View();
 }

gridview data export to excel in asp.net

I think it will help you

string filename = String.Format("Results_{0}_{1}.xls", DateTime.Today.Month.ToString(), DateTime.Today.Year.ToString());
        if (!string.IsNullOrEmpty(GRIDVIEWNAME.Page.Title))
            filename = GRIDVIEWNAME.Page.Title + ".xls";

        HttpContext.Current.Response.Clear();

        HttpContext.Current.Response.AddHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment;filename=" + filename);

        HttpContext.Current.Response.ContentType = "application/vnd.ms-excel";
        HttpContext.Current.Response.Charset = "";

        System.IO.StringWriter stringWriter = new System.IO.StringWriter();
        System.Web.UI.HtmlTextWriter htmlWriter = new HtmlTextWriter(stringWriter);

        System.Web.UI.HtmlControls.HtmlForm form = new System.Web.UI.HtmlControls.HtmlForm();
        GRIDVIEWNAME.Parent.Controls.Add(form);
        form.Controls.Add(GRIDVIEWNAME);
        form.RenderControl(htmlWriter);

        HttpContext.Current.Response.Write("<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; charset=utf-8\" />");
        HttpContext.Current.Response.Write(stringWriter.ToString());
        HttpContext.Current.Response.End();

Saving lists to txt file

Assuming your Generic List is of type String:

TextWriter tw = new StreamWriter("SavedList.txt");

foreach (String s in Lists.verbList)
   tw.WriteLine(s);

tw.Close();

Alternatively, with the using keyword:

using(TextWriter tw = new StreamWriter("SavedList.txt"))
{
   foreach (String s in Lists.verbList)
      tw.WriteLine(s);
}

Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManagerParserErrorException: The message received from the server could not be parsed

1- Never use Response.Write.

2- I put the code below after create (not in Page_Load) a LinkButton (dynamically) and solved my problem:

ScriptManager scriptManager = ScriptManager.GetCurrent(this.Page);
scriptManager.RegisterPostBackControl(lblbtndoc1);

Reading from memory stream to string

If you'd checked the results of stream.Read, you'd have seen that it hadn't read anything - because you haven't rewound the stream. (You could do this with stream.Position = 0;.) However, it's easier to just call ToArray:

settingsString = LocalEncoding.GetString(stream.ToArray());

(You'll need to change the type of stream from Stream to MemoryStream, but that's okay as it's in the same method where you create it.)

Alternatively - and even more simply - just use StringWriter instead of StreamWriter. You'll need to create a subclass if you want to use UTF-8 instead of UTF-16, but that's pretty easy. See this answer for an example.

I'm concerned by the way you're just catching Exception and assuming that it means something harmless, by the way - without even logging anything. Note that using statements are generally cleaner than writing explicit finally blocks.

Create a .txt file if doesn't exist, and if it does append a new line

File.AppendAllText adds a string to a file. It also creates a text file if the file does not exist. If you don't need to read content, it's very efficient. The use case is logging.

File.AppendAllText("C:\\log.txt", "hello world\n");

How can I get the CheckBoxList selected values, what I have doesn't seem to work C#.NET/VisualWebPart

// aspx.cs

// Load CheckBoxList selected items into ListBox

    int status = 1;
    foreach (ListItem  s in chklstStates.Items  )
    {
        if (s.Selected == true)
        {
            if (ListBox1.Items.Count == 0)
            {
                ListBox1.Items.Add(s.Text);

            }
            else
            {
                foreach (ListItem list in ListBox1.Items)
                {
                    if (list.Text == s.Text)
                    {
                        status = status * 0;

                    }
                    else
                    {
                        status = status * 1;
                    }
                }
                if (status == 0)
                { }
               else
                {
                    ListBox1.Items.Add(s.Text);
                }
                status = 1;
            }
        }
    }
}

How to add new line into txt file

Why not do it with one method call:

File.AppendAllLines("file.txt", new[] { DateTime.Now.ToString() });

which will do the newline for you, and allow you to insert multiple lines at once if you want.

how to add css class to html generic control div?

You don't add the css file to the div, you add a class to it then put your import at the top of the HTML page like so:

<link href="../files/external.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />

Then add a class like the following to your code: 'myStyle'.

Then in the css file do something like:

.myStyle
{
   border-style: 1px solid #DBE0E4;
}

GridView must be placed inside a form tag with runat="server" even after the GridView is within a form tag

An alternative to overriding VerifyRenderingInServerForm is to remove the grid from the controls collection while you do the render, and then add it back when you are finished before the page loads. This is helpful if you want to have some generic helper method to get grid html because you don't have to remember to add the override.

Control parent = grid.Parent;
int GridIndex = 0;
if (parent != null)
{
    GridIndex = parent.Controls.IndexOf(grid);
    parent.Controls.Remove(grid);
}

grid.RenderControl(hw);

if (parent != null)
{
    parent.Controls.AddAt(GridIndex, grid);
}

Another alternative to avoid the override is to do this:

grid.RenderBeginTag(hw);
grid.HeaderRow.RenderControl(hw);
foreach (GridViewRow row in grid.Rows)
{
    row.RenderControl(hw);
}
grid.FooterRow.RenderControl(hw);
grid.RenderEndTag(hw);

Converting xml to string using C#

There's a much simpler way to convert your XmlDocument to a string; use the OuterXml property. The OuterXml property returns a string version of the xml.

public string GetXMLAsString(XmlDocument myxml)
{
    return myxml.OuterXml;
}

How to write data to a text file without overwriting the current data

Look into the File class.

You can create a streamwriter with

StreamWriter sw = File.Create(....)

You can open an existing file with

File.Open(...)

You can append text easily with

File.AppendAllText(...);

ASP.NET MVC Razor: How to render a Razor Partial View's HTML inside the controller action

You could also use the RenderView Controller extension from here (source)

and use it like this:

public ActionResult Do() {
var html = this.RenderView("index", theModel);
...
}

it works for razor and web-forms viewengines

Fastest way to serialize and deserialize .NET objects

I took the liberty of feeding your classes into the CGbR generator. Because it is in an early stage it doesn't support DateTime yet, so I simply replaced it with long. The generated serialization code looks like this:

public int Size
{
    get
    {
        var size = 24;
        // Add size for collections and strings
        size += Cts == null ? 0 : Cts.Count * 4;
        size += Tes == null ? 0 : Tes.Count * 4;
        size += Code == null ? 0 : Code.Length;
        size += Message == null ? 0 : Message.Length;

        return size;
    }
}

public byte[] ToBytes(byte[] bytes, ref int index)
{
    if (index + Size > bytes.Length)
        throw new ArgumentOutOfRangeException("index", "Object does not fit in array");

    // Convert Cts
    // Two bytes length information for each dimension
    GeneratorByteConverter.Include((ushort)(Cts == null ? 0 : Cts.Count), bytes, ref index);
    if (Cts != null)
    {
        for(var i = 0; i < Cts.Count; i++)
        {
            var value = Cts[i];
            value.ToBytes(bytes, ref index);
        }
    }
    // Convert Tes
    // Two bytes length information for each dimension
    GeneratorByteConverter.Include((ushort)(Tes == null ? 0 : Tes.Count), bytes, ref index);
    if (Tes != null)
    {
        for(var i = 0; i < Tes.Count; i++)
        {
            var value = Tes[i];
            value.ToBytes(bytes, ref index);
        }
    }
    // Convert Code
    GeneratorByteConverter.Include(Code, bytes, ref index);
    // Convert Message
    GeneratorByteConverter.Include(Message, bytes, ref index);
    // Convert StartDate
    GeneratorByteConverter.Include(StartDate.ToBinary(), bytes, ref index);
    // Convert EndDate
    GeneratorByteConverter.Include(EndDate.ToBinary(), bytes, ref index);
    return bytes;
}

public Td FromBytes(byte[] bytes, ref int index)
{
    // Read Cts
    var ctsLength = GeneratorByteConverter.ToUInt16(bytes, ref index);
    var tempCts = new List<Ct>(ctsLength);
    for (var i = 0; i < ctsLength; i++)
    {
        var value = new Ct().FromBytes(bytes, ref index);
        tempCts.Add(value);
    }
    Cts = tempCts;
    // Read Tes
    var tesLength = GeneratorByteConverter.ToUInt16(bytes, ref index);
    var tempTes = new List<Te>(tesLength);
    for (var i = 0; i < tesLength; i++)
    {
        var value = new Te().FromBytes(bytes, ref index);
        tempTes.Add(value);
    }
    Tes = tempTes;
    // Read Code
    Code = GeneratorByteConverter.GetString(bytes, ref index);
    // Read Message
    Message = GeneratorByteConverter.GetString(bytes, ref index);
    // Read StartDate
    StartDate = DateTime.FromBinary(GeneratorByteConverter.ToInt64(bytes, ref index));
    // Read EndDate
    EndDate = DateTime.FromBinary(GeneratorByteConverter.ToInt64(bytes, ref index));

    return this;
}

I created a list of sample objects like this:

var objects = new List<Td>();
for (int i = 0; i < 1000; i++)
{
    var obj = new Td
    {
        Message = "Hello my friend",
        Code = "Some code that can be put here",
        StartDate = DateTime.Now.AddDays(-7),
        EndDate = DateTime.Now.AddDays(2),
        Cts = new List<Ct>(),
        Tes = new List<Te>()
    };
    for (int j = 0; j < 10; j++)
    {
        obj.Cts.Add(new Ct { Foo = i * j });
        obj.Tes.Add(new Te { Bar = i + j });
    }
    objects.Add(obj);
}

Results on my machine in Release build:

var watch = new Stopwatch();
watch.Start();
var bytes = BinarySerializer.SerializeMany(objects);
watch.Stop();

Size: 149000 bytes

Time: 2.059ms 3.13ms

Edit: Starting with CGbR 0.4.3 the binary serializer supports DateTime. Unfortunately the DateTime.ToBinary method is insanely slow. I will replace it with somehting faster soon.

Edit2: When using UTC DateTime by invoking ToUniversalTime() the performance is restored and clocks in at 1.669ms.

How do I get formatted JSON in .NET using C#?

Shortest version to prettify existing JSON: (edit: using JSON.net)

JToken.Parse("mystring").ToString()

Input:

{"menu": { "id": "file", "value": "File", "popup": { "menuitem": [ {"value": "New", "onclick": "CreateNewDoc()"}, {"value": "Open", "onclick": "OpenDoc()"}, {"value": "Close", "onclick": "CloseDoc()"} ] } }}

Output:

{
  "menu": {
    "id": "file",
    "value": "File",
    "popup": {
      "menuitem": [
        {
          "value": "New",
          "onclick": "CreateNewDoc()"
        },
        {
          "value": "Open",
          "onclick": "OpenDoc()"
        },
        {
          "value": "Close",
          "onclick": "CloseDoc()"
        }
      ]
    }
  }
}

To pretty-print an object:

JToken.FromObject(myObject).ToString()

How to modify existing XML file with XmlDocument and XmlNode in C#

You need to do something like this:

// instantiate XmlDocument and load XML from file
XmlDocument doc = new XmlDocument();
doc.Load(@"D:\test.xml");

// get a list of nodes - in this case, I'm selecting all <AID> nodes under
// the <GroupAIDs> node - change to suit your needs
XmlNodeList aNodes = doc.SelectNodes("/Equipment/DataCollections/GroupAIDs/AID");

// loop through all AID nodes
foreach (XmlNode aNode in aNodes)
{
   // grab the "id" attribute
   XmlAttribute idAttribute = aNode.Attributes["id"];

   // check if that attribute even exists...
   if (idAttribute != null)
   {
      // if yes - read its current value
      string currentValue = idAttribute.Value;

      // here, you can now decide what to do - for demo purposes,
      // I just set the ID value to a fixed value if it was empty before
      if (string.IsNullOrEmpty(currentValue))
      {
         idAttribute.Value = "515";
      }
   }
}

// save the XmlDocument back to disk
doc.Save(@"D:\test2.xml");

Modify XML existing content in C#

Forming a XML file

XmlTextWriter xmlw = new XmlTextWriter(@"C:\WINDOWS\Temp\exm.xml",System.Text.Encoding.UTF8);
xmlw.WriteStartDocument();
xmlw.WriteStartElement("examtimes");
xmlw.WriteStartElement("Starttime");
xmlw.WriteString(DateTime.Now.AddHours(0).ToString());
xmlw.WriteEndElement();
xmlw.WriteStartElement("Changetime");
xmlw.WriteString(DateTime.Now.AddHours(0).ToString());
xmlw.WriteEndElement();
xmlw.WriteStartElement("Endtime");
xmlw.WriteString(DateTime.Now.AddHours(1).ToString());
xmlw.WriteEndElement();
xmlw.WriteEndElement();
xmlw.WriteEndDocument();
xmlw.Close();

To edit the Xml nodes use the below code

XmlDocument doc = new XmlDocument();
doc.Load(@"C:\WINDOWS\Temp\exm.xml");
XmlNode root = doc.DocumentElement["Starttime"];
root.FirstChild.InnerText = "First";
XmlNode root1 = doc.DocumentElement["Changetime"];
root1.FirstChild.InnerText = "Second";
doc.Save(@"C:\WINDOWS\Temp\exm.xml");

Try this. It's C# code.

Serialize an object to string

Code Safety Note

Regarding the accepted answer, it is important to use toSerialize.GetType() instead of typeof(T) in XmlSerializer constructor: if you use the first one the code covers all possible scenarios, while using the latter one fails sometimes.

Here is a link with some example code that motivate this statement, with XmlSerializer throwing an Exception when typeof(T) is used, because you pass an instance of a derived type to a method that calls SerializeObject<T>() that is defined in the derived type's base class: http://ideone.com/1Z5J1. Note that Ideone uses Mono to execute code: the actual Exception you would get using the Microsoft .NET runtime has a different Message than the one shown on Ideone, but it fails just the same.

For the sake of completeness I post the full code sample here for future reference, just in case Ideone (where I posted the code) becomes unavailable in the future:

using System;
using System.Xml.Serialization;
using System.IO;

public class Test
{
    public static void Main()
    {
        Sub subInstance = new Sub();
        Console.WriteLine(subInstance.TestMethod());
    }

    public class Super
    {
        public string TestMethod() {
            return this.SerializeObject();
        }
    }

    public class Sub : Super
    {
    }
}

public static class TestExt {
    public static string SerializeObject<T>(this T toSerialize)
    {
        Console.WriteLine(typeof(T).Name); // PRINTS: "Super", the base/superclass -- Expected output is "Sub" instead
        Console.WriteLine(toSerialize.GetType().Name); // PRINTS: "Sub", the derived/subclass

        XmlSerializer xmlSerializer = new XmlSerializer(typeof(T));
        StringWriter textWriter = new StringWriter();

        // And now...this will throw and Exception!
        // Changing new XmlSerializer(typeof(T)) to new XmlSerializer(subInstance.GetType());
        // solves the problem
        xmlSerializer.Serialize(textWriter, toSerialize);
        return textWriter.ToString();
    }
}

Convert XmlDocument to String

As an extension method:

public static class Extensions
{
    public static string AsString(this XmlDocument xmlDoc)
    {
        using (StringWriter sw = new StringWriter())
        {
            using (XmlTextWriter tx = new XmlTextWriter(sw))
            {
                xmlDoc.WriteTo(tx);
                string strXmlText = sw.ToString();
                return strXmlText;
            }
        }
    }
}

Now to use simply:

yourXmlDoc.AsString()

Cannot use a leading ../ to exit above the top directory

What this means is that your web page is referring to content which is in the folder one level up from your page, but your page is already in the website's root folder, so the relative path is invalid. Judging by your exception message it looks like an image control is causing the problem.

You must have something like:

<asp:Image ImageUrl="..\foo.jpg" />

But since the page itself is in the root folder of the website, it cannot refer to content one level up, which is what the leading ..\ is doing.

Using StringWriter for XML Serialization

One problem with StringWriter is that by default it doesn't let you set the encoding which it advertises - so you can end up with an XML document advertising its encoding as UTF-16, which means you need to encode it as UTF-16 if you write it to a file. I have a small class to help with that though:

public sealed class StringWriterWithEncoding : StringWriter
{
    public override Encoding Encoding { get; }

    public StringWriterWithEncoding (Encoding encoding)
    {
        Encoding = encoding;
    }
}

Or if you only need UTF-8 (which is all I often need):

public sealed class Utf8StringWriter : StringWriter
{
    public override Encoding Encoding => Encoding.UTF8;
}

As for why you couldn't save your XML to the database - you'll have to give us more details about what happened when you tried, if you want us to be able to diagnose/fix it.

Convert DataTable to CSV stream

You can try using something like this. In this case I used one stored procedure to get more data tables and export all of them using CSV.

using System;
using System.Text;
using System.Data;
using System.Data.SqlClient;
using System.IO;

namespace bo
{
class Program
{
    static private void CreateCSVFile(DataTable dt, string strFilePath)
    {
        #region Export Grid to CSV
        // Create the CSV file to which grid data will be exported.
        StreamWriter sw = new StreamWriter(strFilePath, false);
        int iColCount = dt.Columns.Count;

        // First we will write the headers.

        //DataTable dt = m_dsProducts.Tables[0];
        for (int i = 0; i < iColCount; i++)
        {
            sw.Write(dt.Columns[i]);
            if (i < iColCount - 1)
            {
                sw.Write(";");
            }
        }
        sw.Write(sw.NewLine);

        // Now write all the rows.
        foreach (DataRow dr in dt.Rows)
        {
            for (int i = 0; i < iColCount; i++)
            {
                if (!Convert.IsDBNull(dr[i]))
                {
                    sw.Write(dr[i].ToString());
                }
                if (i < iColCount -1 )
                {
                    sw.Write(";");
                }
            }
            sw.Write(sw.NewLine);
        }
        sw.Close();

        #endregion
    }
    static void Main(string[] args)
    {
        string strConn = "connection string to sql";
        string direktorij = @"d:";
        SqlConnection conn = new SqlConnection(strConn);
        SqlCommand command = new SqlCommand("sp_ado_pos_data", conn);
        command.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure;
        command.Parameters.Add('@skl_id', SqlDbType.Int).Value = 158;
        SqlDataAdapter adapter = new SqlDataAdapter(command);
        DataSet ds = new DataSet();
        adapter.Fill(ds);
        for (int i = 0; i < ds.Tables.Count; i++)
        {
            string datoteka  = (string.Format(@"{0}tablea{1}.csv", direktorij, i));
            DataTable tabela = ds.Tables[i];
            CreateCSVFile(tabela,datoteka );
            Console.WriteLine("Generišem tabelu {0}", datoteka);
        }
        Console.ReadKey();
    }
  }
}

ASP.NET / C#: DropDownList SelectedIndexChanged in server control not firing

I had the same problem but got round it by setting AutoPostBack to true and in an update panel set the trigger to the dropdownlist control id and event name to SelectedIndexChanged e.g.

    <asp:UpdatePanel ID="UpdatePanel1" runat="server" UpdateMode="Always" enableViewState="true">
        <Triggers>
            <asp:AsyncPostBackTrigger ControlID="ddl1" EventName="SelectedIndexChanged" />
        </Triggers>
        <ContentTemplate>
            <asp:DropDownList ID="ddl1" runat="server" ClientIDMode="Static" OnSelectedIndexChanged="ddl1_SelectedIndexChanged" AutoPostBack="true" ViewStateMode="Enabled">
                <asp:ListItem Text="--Please select a item--" Value="0" />
            </asp:DropDownList>
        </ContentTemplate>
    </asp:UpdatePanel>

How to return XML in ASP.NET?

Below is the server side code that would call the handler and recieve the stream data and loads into xml doc

 Stream stream = null;
       **Create a web request with the specified URL**
        WebRequest myWebRequest = WebRequest.Create(@"http://localhost/XMLProvider/XMLProcessorHandler.ashx");
        **Senda a web request and wait for response.**
        WebResponse webResponse = myWebRequest.GetResponse();
        **Get the stream object from response object**
        stream = webResponse.GetResponseStream();

       XmlDocument xmlDoc = new XmlDocument();
      **Load stream data into xml**
       xmlDoc.Load(stream);

Where does Console.WriteLine go in ASP.NET?

If you use System.Diagnostics.Debug.WriteLine(...) instead of Console.WriteLine(), then you can see the results in the Output window of Visual Studio.

How do you check for permissions to write to a directory or file?

You can try following code block to check if the directory is having Write Access.

It checks the FileSystemAccessRule.

           string directoryPath = "C:\\XYZ"; //folderBrowserDialog.SelectedPath;
           bool isWriteAccess = false;
           try
           {
              AuthorizationRuleCollection collection = Directory.GetAccessControl(directoryPath).GetAccessRules(true, true, typeof(System.Security.Principal.NTAccount));
              foreach (FileSystemAccessRule rule in collection)
              {
                 if (rule.AccessControlType == AccessControlType.Allow)
                 {
                    isWriteAccess = true;
                    break;
                 }
              }
           }
           catch (UnauthorizedAccessException ex)
           {
              isWriteAccess = false;
           }
           catch (Exception ex)
           {
              isWriteAccess = false;
           }
           if (!isWriteAccess)
           {
             //handle notifications
           }

How can I add (simple) tracing in C#?

DotNetCoders has a starter article on it: http://www.dotnetcoders.com/web/Articles/ShowArticle.aspx?article=50. They talk about how to set up the switches in the configuration file and how to write the code, but it is pretty old (2002).

There's another article on CodeProject: A Treatise on Using Debug and Trace classes, including Exception Handling, but it's the same age.

CodeGuru has another article on custom TraceListeners: Implementing a Custom TraceListener

How to avoid Sql Query Timeout

This is happen because another instance of sql server is running. So you need to kill first then you can able to login to SQL Server.

expected assignment or function call: no-unused-expressions ReactJS

In case someone having a problem like i had. I was using the parenthesis with the return statement on the same line at which i had written the rest of the code. Also, i used map function and props so i got so many brackets. In this case, if you're new to React you can avoid the brackets around the props, because now everyone prefers to use the arrow functions. And in the map function you can also avoid the brackets around your function callback.

props.sample.map(function callback => (
   ));

like so. In above code sample you can see there is only opening parenthesis at the left of the function callback.

Converting Numpy Array to OpenCV Array

The simplest solution would be to use Pillow lib:

from PIL import Image

image = Image.fromarray(<your_numpy_array>.astype(np.uint8))

And you can use it as an image.

Add newly created specific folder to .gitignore in Git

For this there are two cases

Case 1: File already added to git repo.

Case 2: File newly created and its status still showing as untracked file when using

git status

If you have case 1:

STEP 1: Then run

git rm --cached filename

to remove it from git repo cache

if it is a directory then use

git rm -r --cached  directory_name

STEP 2: If Case 1 is over then create new file named .gitignore in your git repo

STEP 3: Use following to tell git to ignore / assume file is unchanged

git update-index --assume-unchanged path/to/file.txt

STEP 4: Now, check status using git status open .gitignore in your editor nano, vim, geany etc... any one, add the path of the file / folder to ignore. If it is a folder then user folder_name/* to ignore all file.

If you still do not understand read the article git ignore file link.

How to implement authenticated routes in React Router 4?

Tnx Tyler McGinnis for solution. I make my idea from Tyler McGinnis idea.

const DecisionRoute = ({ trueComponent, falseComponent, decisionFunc, ...rest }) => {
  return (
    <Route
      {...rest}

      render={
        decisionFunc()
          ? trueComponent
          : falseComponent
      }
    />
  )
}

You can implement that like this

<DecisionRoute path="/signin" exact={true}
            trueComponent={redirectStart}
            falseComponent={SignInPage}
            decisionFunc={isAuth}
          />

decisionFunc just a function that return true or false

const redirectStart = props => <Redirect to="/orders" />

How do I use modulus for float/double?

Unlike C, Java allows using the % for both integer and floating point and (unlike C89 and C++) it is well-defined for all inputs (including negatives):

From JLS §15.17.3:

The result of a floating-point remainder operation is determined by the rules of IEEE arithmetic:

  • If either operand is NaN, the result is NaN.
  • If the result is not NaN, the sign of the result equals the sign of the dividend.
  • If the dividend is an infinity, or the divisor is a zero, or both, the result is NaN.
  • If the dividend is finite and the divisor is an infinity, the result equals the dividend.
  • If the dividend is a zero and the divisor is finite, the result equals the dividend.
  • In the remaining cases, where neither an infinity, nor a zero, nor NaN is involved, the floating-point remainder r from the division of a dividend n by a divisor d is defined by the mathematical relation r=n-(d·q) where q is an integer that is negative only if n/d is negative and positive only if n/d is positive, and whose magnitude is as large as possible without exceeding the magnitude of the true mathematical quotient of n and d.

So for your example, 0.5/0.3 = 1.6... . q has the same sign (positive) as 0.5 (the dividend), and the magnitude is 1 (integer with largest magnitude not exceeding magnitude of 1.6...), and r = 0.5 - (0.3 * 1) = 0.2

Library not loaded: libmysqlclient.16.dylib error when trying to run 'rails server' on OS X 10.6 with mysql2 gem

Oracle: how to add minutes to a timestamp?

All of the other answers are basically right but I don't think anyone's directly answered your original question.

Assuming that "date_and_time" in your example is a column with type DATE or TIMESTAMP, I think you just need to change this:

to_char(date_and_time + (.000694 * 31))

to this:

to_char(date_and_time + (.000694 * 31), 'DD-MON-YYYY HH24:MI')

It sounds like your default date format uses the "HH" code for the hour, not "HH24".

Also, I think your constant term is both confusing and imprecise. I guess what you did is calculate that (.000694) is about the value of a minute, and you are multiplying it by the number of minutes you want to add (31 in the example, although you said 30 in the text).

I would also start with a day and divide it into the units you want within your code. In this case, (1/48) would be 30 minutes; or if you wanted to break it up for clarity, you could write ( (1/24) * (1/2) ).

This would avoid rounding errors (except for those inherent in floating point which should be meaningless here) and is clearer, at least to me.

How to find list of possible words from a letter matrix [Boggle Solver]

I have implemented a solution in OCaml. It pre-compiles a dictionary as a trie, and uses two-letter sequence frequencies to eliminate edges that could never appear in a word to further speed up processing.

It solves your example board in 0.35ms (with an additional 6ms start-up time which is mostly related to loading the trie into memory).

The solutions found:

adding and removing classes in angularJs using ng-click

I used Zack Argyle's suggestion above to get this, which I find very elegant:

CSS:

.active {
    background-position: 0 -46px !important;
}

HTML:

<button ng-click="satisfaction = 'VeryHappy'" ng-class="{active:satisfaction == 'VeryHappy'}">
    <img src="images/VeryHappy.png" style="height:24px;" />
</button>
<button ng-click="satisfaction = 'Happy'" ng-class="{active:satisfaction == 'Happy'}">
    <img src="images/Happy.png" style="height:24px;" />
</button>
<button ng-click="satisfaction = 'Indifferent'" ng-class="{active:satisfaction == 'Indifferent'}">
    <img src="images/Indifferent.png" style="height:24px;" />
</button>
<button ng-click="satisfaction = 'Unhappy'" ng-class="{active:satisfaction == 'Unhappy'}">

Setting Android Theme background color

Okay turned out that I made a really silly mistake. The device I am using for testing is running Android 4.0.4, API level 15.

The styles.xml file that I was editing is in the default values folder. I edited the styles.xml in values-v14 folder and it works all fine now.

How do I write data to csv file in columns and rows from a list in python?

>>> import csv
>>> with open('test.csv', 'wb') as f:
...     wtr = csv.writer(f, delimiter= ' ')
...     wtr.writerows( [[1, 2], [2, 3], [4, 5]])
...
>>> with open('test.csv', 'r') as f:
...     for line in f:
...         print line,
...
1 2 <<=== Exactly what you said that you wanted.
2 3
4 5
>>>

To get it so that it can be loaded sensibly by Excel, you need to use a comma (the csv default) as the delimiter, unless you are in a locale (e.g. Europe) where you need a semicolon.

Algorithm to generate all possible permutations of a list?

I was thinking of writing a code for getting the permutations of any given integer of any size, i.e., providing a number 4567 we get all possible permutations till 7654...So i worked on it and found an algorithm and finally implemented it, Here is the code written in "c". You can simply copy it and run on any open source compilers. But some flaws are waiting to be debugged. Please appreciate.

Code:

#include <stdio.h>
#include <conio.h>
#include <malloc.h>

                //PROTOTYPES

int fact(int); //For finding the factorial
void swap(int*,int*);           //Swapping 2 given numbers
void sort(int*,int); //Sorting the list from the specified path
int imax(int*,int,int); //Finding the value of imax
int jsmall(int*,int); //Gives position of element greater than ith but smaller than rest (ahead of imax)
void perm(); //All the important tasks are done in this function

int n; //Global variable for input OR number of digits

Tensorflow: how to save/restore a model?

According to the new Tensorflow version, tf.train.Checkpoint is the preferable way of saving and restoring a model:

Checkpoint.save and Checkpoint.restore write and read object-based checkpoints, in contrast to tf.train.Saver which writes and reads variable.name based checkpoints. Object-based checkpointing saves a graph of dependencies between Python objects (Layers, Optimizers, Variables, etc.) with named edges, and this graph is used to match variables when restoring a checkpoint. It can be more robust to changes in the Python program, and helps to support restore-on-create for variables when executing eagerly. Prefer tf.train.Checkpoint over tf.train.Saver for new code.

Here is an example:

import tensorflow as tf
import os

tf.enable_eager_execution()

checkpoint_directory = "/tmp/training_checkpoints"
checkpoint_prefix = os.path.join(checkpoint_directory, "ckpt")

checkpoint = tf.train.Checkpoint(optimizer=optimizer, model=model)
status = checkpoint.restore(tf.train.latest_checkpoint(checkpoint_directory))
for _ in range(num_training_steps):
  optimizer.minimize( ... ) # Variables will be restored on creation.
status.assert_consumed()  # Optional sanity checks.
checkpoint.save(file_prefix=checkpoint_prefix)

You need to tell it that you are using SSL:

In case you miss anything, here is working code:

How to uninstall Golang?

On a Mac-OS Catalina

  1. need to add sudo before rm -rf /usr/local/go sudo rm -rf /usr/local/go otherwise, we will run into permission denial.

  2. sudo vim ~/.profile or sudo ~/.bash_profile remove export PATH=$PATH:$GOPATH/BIN or anything related to go lang

  3. If you use Zsh shell, then you need to remove the above line to ~/.zshrc file.

Hope it helps you :)

How to get current value of RxJS Subject or Observable?

The best way to do this is using Behaviur Subject, here is an example:

var sub = new rxjs.BehaviorSubject([0, 1])
sub.next([2, 3])
setTimeout(() => {sub.next([4, 5])}, 1500)
sub.subscribe(a => console.log(a)) //2, 3 (current value) -> wait 2 sec -> 4, 5

What bitrate is used for each of the youtube video qualities (360p - 1080p), in regards to flowplayer?

Looking at this official google link: Youtube Live encoder settings, bitrates and resolutions they have this table:

                   240p       360p        480p        720p        1080p
Resolution      426 x 240   640 x 360   854x480     1280x720    1920x1080
Video Bitrates
Maximum         700 Kbps    1000 Kbps   2000 Kbps   4000 Kbps   6000 Kbps
Recommended     400 Kbps    750 Kbps    1000 Kbps   2500 Kbps   4500 Kbps
Minimum         300 Kbps    400 Kbps    500 Kbps    1500 Kbps   3000 Kbps

It would appear as though this is the case, although the numbers dont sync up to the google table above:

// the bitrates, video width and file names for this clip
      bitrates: [
        { url: "bbb-800.mp4", width: 480, bitrate: 800 }, //360p video
        { url: "bbb-1200.mp4", width: 720, bitrate: 1200 }, //480p video
        { url: "bbb-1600.mp4", width: 1080, bitrate: 1600 } //720p video
      ],

extract part of a string using bash/cut/split

Using a single Awk:

... | awk -F '[/:]' '{print $5}'

That is, using as field separator either / or :, the username is always in field 5.

To store it in a variable:

username=$(... | awk -F '[/:]' '{print $5}')

A more flexible implementation with sed that doesn't require username to be field 5:

... | sed -e s/:.*// -e s?.*/??

That is, delete everything from : and beyond, and then delete everything up until the last /. sed is probably faster too than awk, so this alternative is definitely better.

Using FileSystemWatcher to monitor a directory

You did not supply the file handling code, but I assume you made the same mistake everyone does when first writing such a thing: the filewatcher event will be raised as soon as the file is created. However, it will take some time for the file to be finished. Take a file size of 1 GB for example. The file may be created by another program (Explorer.exe copying it from somewhere) but it will take minutes to finish that process. The event is raised at creation time and you need to wait for the file to be ready to be copied.

You can wait for a file to be ready by using this function in a loop.

To compare two elements(string type) in XSLT?

First of all, the provided long code:

    <xsl:choose>
        <xsl:when test="OU_NAME='OU_ADDR1'"> --comparing two elements coming from XML

            <xsl:value-of select="OU_COUNTRY"/>

is equivalent to this, much shorter code:

<xsl:if test="not(OU_NAME='OU_ADDR1)'">

        </xsl:if>

            <xsl:if test="LE_ADDR3 !='' ">

            </xsl:if>
            <xsl:value-of select="OU_REGION2"/>
            <fo:leader leader-pattern="space" leader-length="3.0pt"/>
            <xsl:value-of select="OU_POSTALCODE"/>
            <fo:block/>
            <xsl:value-of select="OU_COUNTRY"/>

Now, to your question:

how to compare two elements coming from xml as string

In Xpath 1.0 strings can be compared only for equality (or inequality), using the operator = and the function not() together with the operator =.

$str1 = $str2

evaluates to true() exactly when the string $str1 is equal to the string $str2.

not($str1 = $str2)

evaluates to true() exactly when the string $str1 is not equal to the string $str2.

There is also the != operator. It generally should be avoided because it has anomalous behavior whenever one of its operands is a node-set.

Now, the rules for comparing two element nodes are similar:

$el1 = $el2

evaluates to true() exactly when the string value of $el1 is equal to the string value of $el2.

not($el1 = $el2)

evaluates to true() exactly when the string value of $el1 is not equal to the string value of $el2.

However, if one of the operands of = is a node-set, then

 $ns = $str

evaluates to true() exactly when there is at least one node in the node-set $ns1, whose string value is equal to the string $str

$ns1 = $ns2

evaluates to true() exactly when there is at least one node in the node-set $ns1, whose string value is equal to the string value of some node from $ns2

Therefore, the expression:

OU_NAME='OU_ADDR1'

evaluates to true() only when there is at least one element child of the current node that is named OU_NAME and whose string value is the string 'OU_ADDR1'.

This is obviously not what you want!

Most probably you want:

OU_NAME=OU_ADDR1

This expression evaluates to true exactly there is at least one OU_NAME child of the current node and one OU_ADDR1 child of the current node with the same string value.

Finally, in XPath 2.0, strings can be compared also using the value comparison operators lt, le, eq, gt, ge and the inherited from XPath 1.0 general comparison operator =.

Trying to evaluate a value comparison operator when one or both of its arguments is a sequence of more than one item results in error.

How do I make a dotted/dashed line in Android?

Similar to tier777 here is a solution for a horizontal line:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<layer-list xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
    <item android:top="-1dp">
        <shape android:shape="line">
            <stroke
                android:width="1dp"
                android:color="#111"
                android:dashWidth="8dp"
                android:dashGap="2dp"
                />
            <solid android:color="@android:color/transparent" />
        </shape>
    </item>
</layer-list>

The clue is <item android:top="-1dp">.

In order to show dashed line on old devices (<= API 21) you should create a view with android:layerType="software" (see Android dashed line drawable potential ICS bug):

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<View xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
    android:layout_width="match_parent"
    android:layout_height="1dp"
    android:background="@drawable/dashed_line"
    android:layerType="software"
    />

Also you can add the same view without android:layerType="software" to layout-v23 for better performance, but I am not sure it will work on all devices with API 23.

Why do we need the "finally" clause in Python?

The code blocks are not equivalent. The finally clause will also be run if run_code1() throws an exception other than TypeError, or if run_code2() throws an exception, while other_code() in the first version wouldn't be run in these cases.

TypeError: expected str, bytes or os.PathLike object, not _io.BufferedReader

I think it has to do with your second element in storbinary. You are trying to open file, but it is already a pointer to the file you opened in line file = open(local_path,'rb'). So, try to use ftp.storbinary("STOR " + i, file).

mysql_fetch_array()/mysql_fetch_assoc()/mysql_fetch_row()/mysql_num_rows etc... expects parameter 1 to be resource

Error occurred here was due to the use of single quotes ('). You can put your query like this:

mysql_query("
SELECT * FROM Users
WHERE UserName
LIKE '".mysql_real_escape_string ($username)."'
");

It's using mysql_real_escape_string for prevention of SQL injection. Though we should use MySQLi or PDO_MYSQL extension for upgraded version of PHP (PHP 5.5.0 and later), but for older versions mysql_real_escape_string will do the trick.

Case insensitive std::string.find()

Also make sense to provide Boost version: This will modify original strings.

#include <boost/algorithm/string.hpp>

string str1 = "hello world!!!";
string str2 = "HELLO";
boost::algorithm::to_lower(str1)
boost::algorithm::to_lower(str2)

if (str1.find(str2) != std::string::npos)
{
    // str1 contains str2
}

or using perfect boost xpression library

#include <boost/xpressive/xpressive.hpp>
using namespace boost::xpressive;
....
std::string long_string( "very LonG string" );
std::string word("long");
smatch what;
sregex re = sregex::compile(word, boost::xpressive::icase);
if( regex_match( long_string, what, re ) )
{
    cout << word << " found!" << endl;
}

In this example you should pay attention that your search word don't have any regex special characters.

Passing argument to alias in bash

Usually when I want to pass arguments to an alias in Bash, I use a combination of an alias and a function like this, for instance:

function __t2d {
         if [ "$1x" != 'x' ]; then
            date -d "@$1"
         fi
}

alias t2d='__t2d'

Javascript parse float is ignoring the decimals after my comma

It is better to use this syntax to replace all the commas in a case of a million 1,234,567

var string = "1,234,567";
string = string.replace(/[^\d\.\-]/g, "");
var number = parseFloat(string);
console.log(number)

The g means to remove all commas.

Check the Jsfiddle demo here.

Encode a FileStream to base64 with c#

You may try something like that:

    public Stream ConvertToBase64(Stream stream)
    {
        Byte[] inArray = new Byte[(int)stream.Length];
        Char[] outArray = new Char[(int)(stream.Length * 1.34)];
        stream.Read(inArray, 0, (int)stream.Length);
        Convert.ToBase64CharArray(inArray, 0, inArray.Length, outArray, 0);
        return new MemoryStream(Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes(outArray));
    }

Add new item in existing array in c#.net

Using LINQ:

arr = (arr ?? Enumerable.Empty<string>()).Concat(new[] { newitem }).ToArray();

I like using this as it is a one-liner and very convenient to embed in a switch statement, a simple if-statement, or pass as argument.

EDIT:

Some people don't like new[] { newitem } because it creates a small, one-item, temporary array. Here is a version using Enumerable.Repeat that does not require creating any object (at least not on the surface -- .NET iterators probably create a bunch of state machine objects under the table).

arr = (arr ?? Enumerable.Empty<string>()).Concat(Enumerable.Repeat(newitem,1)).ToArray();

And if you are sure that the array is never null to start with, you can simplify it to:

arr.Concat(Enumerable.Repeat(newitem,1)).ToArray();

Notice that if you want to add items to a an ordered collection, List is probably the data structure you want, not an array to start with.

What does EntityManager.flush do and why do I need to use it?

EntityManager.persist() makes an entity persistent whereas EntityManager.flush() actually runs the query on your database.

So, when you call EntityManager.flush(), queries for inserting/updating/deleting associated entities are executed in the database. Any constraint failures (column width, data types, foreign key) will be known at this time.

The concrete behaviour depends on whether flush-mode is AUTO or COMMIT.

Check OS version in Swift?

Note: Available in iOS 8.0 and later. OS X v10.10 and later

var majorVersion: Int    { return NSProcessInfo.processInfo().operatingSystemVersion.majorVersion }
var minorVersion: Int    { return NSProcessInfo.processInfo().operatingSystemVersion.minorVersion }
var patchVersion: Int    { return NSProcessInfo.processInfo().operatingSystemVersion.patchVersion }
var myOSVersion:  String { return NSProcessInfo.processInfo().operatingSystemVersionString        }

PHP check if date between two dates

You cannot compare date-strings. It is good habit to use PHP's DateTime object instead:

$paymentDate = new DateTime(); // Today
echo $paymentDate->format('d/m/Y'); // echos today!
$contractDateBegin = new DateTime('2001-01-01');
$contractDateEnd  = new DateTime('2015-01-01');

if (
  $paymentDate->getTimestamp() > $contractDateBegin->getTimestamp() &&
  $paymentDate->getTimestamp() < $contractDateEnd->getTimestamp()){
  echo "is between";
}else{
   echo "NO GO!";
}

how to insert date and time in oracle?

You are doing everything right by using a to_date function and specifying the time. The time is there in the database. The trouble is just that when you select a column of DATE datatype from the database, the default format mask doesn't show the time. If you issue a

alter session set nls_date_format = 'dd/MON/yyyy hh24:mi:ss'

or something similar including a time component, you will see that the time successfully made it into the database.

Android Studio Gradle project "Unable to start the daemon process /initialization of VM"

It has to do with how much memory is available for AS to create a VM environment for your app to populate. The thing is that ever since the update to 2.2 I've had the same problem every time I try to create a new project in AS.

How I solve it is by going into Project (on the left hand side) > Gradle Scripts > gradle.properties. When it opens the file go to the line under "(Line 10)# Specifies the JVM arguments used for the daemon process. (Line 11)# The setting is particularly useful for tweaking memory settings." You're looking for the line that starts with "org.gradle.jvmargs". This should be line 12. Change line 12 to this

After changing this line you can either sync the gradle with the project by clicking Try again on the notification telling you the gradle sync failed (it'll be at the top of the file you opened). Or you can simply close and restart the AS and it should sync.

Essentially what this is saying is for AS to allocate more memory to the app initialization. I know it's not a permanent fix but it should get you through actually starting your app.

Locate current file in IntelliJ

There is no direct shortcut for such operation in IntelliJ IDEA 14 but you can install the plugin and set it the keyboard shortcut to the function that called "Scroll From Source" in keymap settings.

How do I use a custom deleter with a std::unique_ptr member?

Assuming that create and destroy are free functions (which seems to be the case from the OP's code snippet) with the following signatures:

Bar* create();
void destroy(Bar*);

You can write your class Foo like this

class Foo {

    std::unique_ptr<Bar, void(*)(Bar*)> ptr_;

    // ...

public:

    Foo() : ptr_(create(), destroy) { /* ... */ }

    // ...
};

Notice that you don't need to write any lambda or custom deleter here because destroy is already a deleter.

Check if an image is loaded (no errors) with jQuery

Check the complete and naturalWidth properties, in that order.

https://stereochro.me/ideas/detecting-broken-images-js

function IsImageOk(img) {
    // During the onload event, IE correctly identifies any images that
    // weren’t downloaded as not complete. Others should too. Gecko-based
    // browsers act like NS4 in that they report this incorrectly.
    if (!img.complete) {
        return false;
    }

    // However, they do have two very useful properties: naturalWidth and
    // naturalHeight. These give the true size of the image. If it failed
    // to load, either of these should be zero.
    if (img.naturalWidth === 0) {
        return false;
    }

    // No other way of checking: assume it’s ok.
    return true;
}

Styling input buttons for iPad and iPhone

I had the same issue today using primefaces (primeng) and angular 7. Add the following to your style.css

p-button {
   -webkit-appearance: none !important;
}

i am also using a bit of bootstrap which has a reboot.css, that overrides it with (thats why i had to add !important)

button {
  -webkit-appearance: button;

}

Query a parameter (postgresql.conf setting) like "max_connections"

You can use SHOW:

SHOW max_connections;

This returns the currently effective setting. Be aware that it can differ from the setting in postgresql.conf as there are a multiple ways to set run-time parameters in PostgreSQL. To reset the "original" setting from postgresql.conf in your current session:

RESET max_connections;

However, not applicable to this particular setting. The manual:

This parameter can only be set at server start.

To see all settings:

SHOW ALL;

There is also pg_settings:

The view pg_settings provides access to run-time parameters of the server. It is essentially an alternative interface to the SHOW and SET commands. It also provides access to some facts about each parameter that are not directly available from SHOW, such as minimum and maximum values.

For your original request:

SELECT *
FROM   pg_settings
WHERE  name = 'max_connections';

Finally, there is current_setting(), which can be nested in DML statements:

SELECT current_setting('max_connections');

Why is @font-face throwing a 404 error on woff files?

This might be obvious, but it has tripped me up with 404s a number of times... Make sure the fonts folder permissions are set correctly.

When should I use mmap for file access?

Memory mapping has a potential for a huge speed advantage compared to traditional IO. It lets the operating system read the data from the source file as the pages in the memory mapped file are touched. This works by creating faulting pages, which the OS detects and then the OS loads the corresponding data from the file automatically.

This works the same way as the paging mechanism and is usually optimized for high speed I/O by reading data on system page boundaries and sizes (usually 4K) - a size for which most file system caches are optimized to.

HttpContext.Current.Session is null when routing requests

Just add attribute runAllManagedModulesForAllRequests="true" to system.webServer\modules in web.config.

This attribute is enabled by default in MVC and Dynamic Data projects.

jQuery hasClass() - check for more than one class

use default js match() function:

if( element.attr('class') !== undefined && element.attr('class').match(/class1|class2|class3|class4|class5/) ) {
  console.log("match");
}

to use variables in regexp, use this:

var reg = new RegExp(variable, 'g');
$(this).match(reg);

by the way, this is the fastest way: http://jsperf.com/hasclass-vs-is-stackoverflow/22

How can I configure my makefile for debug and release builds?

Note that you can also make your Makefile simpler, at the same time:

DEBUG ?= 1
ifeq (DEBUG, 1)
    CFLAGS =-g3 -gdwarf2 -DDEBUG
else
    CFLAGS=-DNDEBUG
endif

CXX = g++ $(CFLAGS)
CC = gcc $(CFLAGS)

EXECUTABLE = output
OBJECTS = CommandParser.tab.o CommandParser.yy.o Command.o
LIBRARIES = -lfl

all: $(EXECUTABLE)

$(EXECUTABLE): $(OBJECTS)
    $(CXX) -o $@ $^ $(LIBRARIES)

%.yy.o: %.l
    flex -o $*.yy.c $<
    $(CC) -c $*.yy.c

%.tab.o: %.y
    bison -d $<
    $(CXX) -c $*.tab.c

%.o: %.cpp
    $(CXX) -c $<

clean:
    rm -f $(EXECUTABLE) $(OBJECTS) *.yy.c *.tab.c

Now you don't have to repeat filenames all over the place. Any .l files will get passed through flex and gcc, any .y files will get passed through bison and g++, and any .cpp files through just g++.

Just list the .o files you expect to end up with, and Make will do the work of figuring out which rules can satisfy the needs...

for the record:

  • $@ The name of the target file (the one before the colon)

  • $< The name of the first (or only) prerequisite file (the first one after the colon)

  • $^ The names of all the prerequisite files (space separated)

  • $* The stem (the bit which matches the % wildcard in the rule definition.

Why can't C# interfaces contain fields?

Interfaces do not contain any implementation.

  1. Define an interface with a property.
  2. Further you can implement that interface in any class and use this class going forward.
  3. If required you can have this property defined as virtual in the class so that you can modify its behaviour.

How can I convert a date to GMT?

You can simply use the toUTCString (or toISOString) methods of the date object.

Example:

new Date("Fri Jan 20 2012 11:51:36 GMT-0500").toUTCString()

// Output:  "Fri, 20 Jan 2012 16:51:36 GMT"

If you prefer better control of the output format, consider using a library such as date-fns or moment.js.

Also, in your question, you've actually converted the time incorrectly. When an offset is shown in a timestamp string, it means that the date and time values in the string have already been adjusted from UTC by that value. To convert back to UTC, invert the sign before applying the offset.

11:51:36 -0300  ==  14:51:36Z

Maximum and minimum values in a textbox

function

getValue(input){
        var value = input.value ? parseInt(input.value) : 0;
        let min = input.min;
        let max = input.max;
        if(value < min)
            return parseInt(min);
        else if(value > max)
            return parseInt(max);
        else return value;
    }

Usages

changeDotColor = (event) => {
        let value = this.getValue(event.target) //value will be always number
        console.log(value)
        console.log(typeof value)
}

104, 'Connection reset by peer' socket error, or When does closing a socket result in a RST rather than FIN?

I had the same issue however with doing an upload of a very large file using a python-requests client posting to a nginx+uwsgi backend.

What ended up being the cause was the the backend had a cap on the max file size for uploads lower than what the client was trying to send.

The error never showed up in our uwsgi logs since this limit was actually one imposed by nginx.

Upping the limit in nginx removed the error.

How to use the 'main' parameter in package.json?

To answer your first question, the way you load a module is depending on the module entry point and the main parameter of the package.json.

Let's say you have the following file structure:

my-npm-module
|-- lib
|   |-- module.js
|-- package.json

Without main parameter in the package.json, you have to load the module by giving the module entry point: require('my-npm-module/lib/module.js').

If you set the package.json main parameter as follows "main": "lib/module.js", you will be able to load the module this way: require('my-npm-module').

How to send email in ASP.NET C#

Just pass parameter like body - The content(query) from the customer
subject - subject that defined in mail subject
username - nothing name anything
mail - mail (required)

   public static bool SendMail(String body, String subject, string username, String mail)
    {
        bool isSendSuccess = false;
        try
        {
            var fromEmailAddress = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["FromEmailAddress"].ToString();
            var fromEmailDisplayName = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["FromEmailDisplayName"].ToString();
            var fromEmailPassword = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["FromEmailPassword"].ToString();
            var smtpHost = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["SMTPHost"].ToString();
            var smtpPort = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["SMTPPort"].ToString();

            MailMessage message = new MailMessage(new MailAddress(fromEmailAddress, fromEmailDisplayName),
                new MailAddress(mail, username));
            message.Subject = subject;

Php artisan make:auth command is not defined

In Laravel 6.0 make:auth no longer exists. Read more here

A- Shorthand:

Update Nov 18th: Taylor just released Laravel Installer 2.3.0 added a new "--auth" flag to create a new project with the authentication scaffolding installed!

To update laravel installer read here

It means we can do:

laravel new project --auth

cd project

php artisan migrate

npm install
npm run dev

Which is a shorthand of commands in the Section B. Also read more here

B - Details:

Follow these three steps

Step 1 - First do this:

laravel new project

cd project

composer require laravel/ui --dev

Note: Laravel UI Composer package is a new first-party package that extracts the UI portion of a Laravel project ( frontend scaffolding typically provided with previous releases of Laravel ) into a separate laravel/ui package. The separate package enables the Laravel team to update, develop and version UI scaffolding package separately from the primary framework and the main Laravel codebase.

Step 2 - Then do this:

php artisan ui bootstrap --auth
php artisan migrate

or

php artisan ui vue --auth
php artisan migrate

instead of

php artisan make:auth ( which works for Laravel 5.8 and older versions )

More Options here

php artisan ui:auth

The above command will generate only the auth routes, a HomeController, auth views, and a app.blade.php layout file.

You can also generate the views only with:

php artisan ui:auth --views

The console command will prompt you to confirm overwriting auth files if you've already run the command before.

// Generate basic scaffolding...
php artisan ui vue
php artisan ui react

and also:

// Generate login / registration scaffolding...
php artisan ui vue --auth
php artisan ui react --auth

To see differences read this article

Step 3 - Then you need to do:

npm install
npm run dev

How to prevent a click on a '#' link from jumping to top of page?

If you want to migrate to an Anchor Section on the same page without page jumping up use:

Just use "#/" instead of "#" e.g

<a href="#/home">Home</a>
<a href="#/about">About</a>
<a href="#/contact">contact</a> page will not jump up on click..

Set selected item in Android BottomNavigationView

Reflection is bad idea.

Head to this gist. There is a method that performs the selection but also invokes the callback:

  @CallSuper
    public void setSelectedItem(int position) {
        if (position >= getMenu().size() || position < 0) return;

        View menuItemView = getMenuItemView(position);
        if (menuItemView == null) return;
        MenuItemImpl itemData = ((MenuView.ItemView) menuItemView).getItemData();

        itemData.setChecked(true);

        boolean previousHapticFeedbackEnabled = menuItemView.isHapticFeedbackEnabled();
        menuItemView.setSoundEffectsEnabled(false);
        menuItemView.setHapticFeedbackEnabled(false); //avoid hearing click sounds, disable haptic and restore settings later of that view
        menuItemView.performClick();
        menuItemView.setHapticFeedbackEnabled(previousHapticFeedbackEnabled);
        menuItemView.setSoundEffectsEnabled(true);

        mLastSelection = position;

    }

pandas DataFrame: replace nan values with average of columns

You can simply use DataFrame.fillna to fill the nan's directly:

In [27]: df
Out[27]:
          A         B         C
0 -0.166919  0.979728 -0.632955
1 -0.297953 -0.912674 -1.365463
2 -0.120211 -0.540679 -0.680481
3       NaN -2.027325  1.533582
4       NaN       NaN  0.461821
5 -0.788073       NaN       NaN
6 -0.916080 -0.612343       NaN
7 -0.887858  1.033826       NaN
8  1.948430  1.025011 -2.982224
9  0.019698 -0.795876 -0.046431

In [28]: df.mean()
Out[28]:
A   -0.151121
B   -0.231291
C   -0.530307
dtype: float64

In [29]: df.fillna(df.mean())
Out[29]:
          A         B         C
0 -0.166919  0.979728 -0.632955
1 -0.297953 -0.912674 -1.365463
2 -0.120211 -0.540679 -0.680481
3 -0.151121 -2.027325  1.533582
4 -0.151121 -0.231291  0.461821
5 -0.788073 -0.231291 -0.530307
6 -0.916080 -0.612343 -0.530307
7 -0.887858  1.033826 -0.530307
8  1.948430  1.025011 -2.982224
9  0.019698 -0.795876 -0.046431

The docstring of fillna says that value should be a scalar or a dict, however, it seems to work with a Series as well. If you want to pass a dict, you could use df.mean().to_dict().

MongoDB vs Firebase

Firebase provides some good features like real time change reflection , easy integration of authentication mechanism , and lots of other built-in features for rapid web development. Firebase, really makes Web development so simple that never exists. Firebase database is a fork of MongoDB.

What's the advantage of using Firebase over MongoDB?

You can take advantage of all built-in features of Firebase over MongoDB.

"&" meaning after variable type

It means you're passing the variable by reference.

In fact, in a declaration of a type, it means reference, just like:

int x = 42;
int& y = x;

declares a reference to x, called y.

Interface naming in Java

As another poster said, it's typically preferable to have interfaces define capabilities not types. I would tend not to "implement" something like a "User," and this is why "IUser" often isn't really necessary in the way described here. I often see classes as nouns and interfaces as adjectives:

class Number implements Comparable{...}
class MyThread implements Runnable{...}
class SessionData implements Serializable{....}

Sometimes an Adjective doesn't make sense, but I'd still generally be using interfaces to model behavior, actions, capabilities, properties, etc,... not types.

Also, If you were really only going to make one User and call it User then what's the point of also having an IUser interface? And if you are going to have a few different types of users that need to implement a common interface, what does appending an "I" to the interface save you in choosing names of the implementations?

I think a more realistic example would be that some types of users need to be able to login to a particular API. We could define a Login interface, and then have a "User" parent class with SuperUser, DefaultUser, AdminUser, AdministrativeContact, etc suclasses, some of which will or won't implement the Login (Loginable?) interface as necessary.

What is the difference between %g and %f in C?

E = exponent expression, simply means power(10, n) or 10 ^ n

F = fraction expression, default 6 digits precision

G = gerneral expression, somehow smart to show the number in a concise way (but really?)

See the below example,

The code

void main(int argc, char* argv[])
{
        double a = 4.5;
        printf("=>>>> below is the example for printf 4.5\n");
        printf("%%e %e\n",a);
        printf("%%f %f\n",a);
        printf("%%g %g\n",a);
        printf("%%E %E\n",a);
        printf("%%F %F\n",a);
        printf("%%G %G\n",a);

        double b = 1.79e308;
        printf("=>>>> below is the exbmple for printf 1.79*10^308\n");
        printf("%%e %e\n",b);
        printf("%%f %f\n",b);
        printf("%%g %g\n",b);
        printf("%%E %E\n",b);
        printf("%%F %F\n",b);
        printf("%%G %G\n",b);

        double d = 2.25074e-308;
        printf("=>>>> below is the example for printf 2.25074*10^-308\n");
        printf("%%e %e\n",d);
        printf("%%f %f\n",d);
        printf("%%g %g\n",d);
        printf("%%E %E\n",d);
        printf("%%F %F\n",d);

On UNIX systems, you can use sigaction call to register a signal handler for SIGINT signal which represents the Control+C key sequence. The signal handler can set a flag which will be checked in the loop making it to break appropriately.

If you aren't using a shell with a shebang line and just type python myprogram.py it uses the default version unless you decide specifically which Python version when you type pythonXXX myprogram.py which version to use.

Once your Python program is running you have already decided which Python executable to use to get the program running.

virtualenv is for segregating python versions and environments, it specifically exists to eliminate conflicts.

Use of symbols '@', '&', '=' and '>' in custom directive's scope binding: AngularJS

The AngularJS documentation on directives is pretty well written for what the symbols mean.

To be clear, you cannot just have

scope: '@'

in a directive definition. You must have properties for which those bindings apply, as in:

scope: {
    myProperty: '@'
}

I strongly suggest you read the documentation and the tutorials on the site. There is much more information you need to know about isolated scopes and other topics.

Here is a direct quote from the above-linked page, regarding the values of scope:

The scope property can be true, an object or a falsy value:

  • falsy: No scope will be created for the directive. The directive will use its parent's scope.

  • true: A new child scope that prototypically inherits from its parent will be created for the directive's element. If multiple directives on the same element request a new scope, only one new scope is created. The new scope rule does not apply for the root of the template since the root of the template always gets a new scope.

  • {...} (an object hash): A new "isolate" scope is created for the directive's element. The 'isolate' scope differs from normal scope in that it does not prototypically inherit from its parent scope. This is useful when creating reusable components, which should not accidentally read or modify data in the parent scope.

How to tell if UIViewController's view is visible

I needed this to check if the view controller is the current viewed controller, I did it via checking if there's any presented view controller or pushed through the navigator, I'm posting it in case anyone needed such a solution:

      //Viewcontroller isn't viewed
}else{
     // Now your viewcontroller is being viewed

Difference between add(), replace(), and addToBackStack()

1) fragmentTransaction.addToBackStack(str);

Description - Add this transaction to the back stack. This means that the transaction will be remembered after it is committed, and will reverse its operation when later popped off the stack.

2) fragmentTransaction.replace(int containerViewId, Fragment fragment, String tag)

Description - Replace an existing fragment that was added to a container. This is essentially the same as calling remove(Fragment) for all currently added fragments that were added with the same containerViewId and then add(int, Fragment, String) with the same arguments given here.

3) fragmentTransaction.add(int containerViewId, Fragment fragment, String tag)

Description - Add a fragment to the activity state. This fragment may optionally also have its view (if Fragment.onCreateView returns non-null) into a container view of the activity.

What does it mean to replace an already existing fragment, and adding a fragment to the activity state and adding an activity to the back stack ?

There is a stack in which all the activities in the running state are kept. Fragments belong to the activity. So you can add them to embed them in a activity.

You can combine multiple fragments in a single activity to build a multi-pane UI and reuse a fragment in multiple activities. This is essentially useful when you have defined your fragment container at different layouts. You just need to replace with any other fragment in any layout.

When you navigate to the current layout, you have the id of that container to replace it with the fragment you want.

You can also go back to the previous fragment in the backStack with the popBackStack() method. For that you need to add that fragment in the stack using addToBackStack() and then commit() to reflect. This is in reverse order with the current on top.

findFragmentByTag does this search for tag added by the add/replace method or the addToBackStack method ?

If depends upon how you added the tag. It then just finds a fragment by its tag that you defined before either when inflated from XML or as supplied when added in a transaction.

Remove duplicated rows

For people who have come here to look for a general answer for duplicate row removal, use !duplicated():

a <- c(rep("A", 3), rep("B", 3), rep("C",2))
b <- c(1,1,2,4,1,1,2,2)
df <-data.frame(a,b)

duplicated(df)
[1] FALSE TRUE FALSE FALSE FALSE TRUE FALSE TRUE

> df[duplicated(df), ]
  a b
2 A 1
6 B 1
8 C 2

> df[!duplicated(df), ]
  a b
1 A 1
3 A 2
4 B 4
5 B 1
7 C 2

How to transform numpy.matrix or array to scipy sparse matrix

In Python, the Scipy library can be used to convert the 2-D NumPy matrix into a Sparse matrix. SciPy 2-D sparse matrix package for numeric data is scipy.sparse

The scipy.sparse package provides different Classes to create the following types of Sparse matrices from the 2-dimensional matrix:

  1. Block Sparse Row matrix
  2. A sparse matrix in COOrdinate format.
  3. Compressed Sparse Column matrix
  4. Compressed Sparse Row matrix
  5. Sparse matrix with DIAgonal storage
  6. Dictionary Of Keys based sparse matrix.
  7. Row-based list of lists sparse matrix
  8. This class provides a base class for all sparse matrices.

CSR (Compressed Sparse Row) or CSC (Compressed Sparse Column) formats support efficient access and matrix operations.

Example code to Convert Numpy matrix into Compressed Sparse Column(CSC) matrix & Compressed Sparse Row (CSR) matrix using Scipy classes:

import sys # Return the size of an object in bytes
import numpy as np # To create 2 dimentional matrix
from scipy.sparse import csr_matrix, csc_matrix
# csr_matrix: used to create compressed sparse row matrix from Matrix
# csc_matrix: used to create compressed sparse column matrix from Matrix

create a 2-D Numpy matrix

A = np.array([[1, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0],\
              [0, 0, 2, 0, 0, 1],\
              [0, 0, 0, 2, 0, 0]])
print("Dense matrix representation: \n", A)
print("Memory utilised (bytes): ", sys.getsizeof(A))
print("Type of the object", type(A))

Print the matrix & other details:

Dense matrix representation:
 [[1 0 0 0 0 0]
 [0 0 2 0 0 1]
 [0 0 0 2 0 0]]
Memory utilised (bytes):  184
Type of the object <class 'numpy.ndarray'>

Converting Matrix A to the Compressed sparse row matrix representation using csr_matrix Class:

S = csr_matrix(A)
print("Sparse 'row' matrix: \n",S)
print("Memory utilised (bytes): ", sys.getsizeof(S))
print("Type of the object", type(S))

The output of print statements:

Sparse 'row' matrix:
(0, 0) 1
(1, 2) 2
(1, 5) 1
(2, 3) 2
Memory utilised (bytes): 56
Type of the object: <class 'scipy.sparse.csr.csc_matrix'>

Converting Matrix A to Compressed Sparse Column matrix representation using csc_matrix Class:

S = csc_matrix(A)
print("Sparse 'column' matrix: \n",S)
print("Memory utilised (bytes): ", sys.getsizeof(S))
print("Type of the object", type(S))

The output of print statements:

Sparse 'column' matrix:
(0, 0) 1
(1, 2) 2
(2, 3) 2
(1, 5) 1
Memory utilised (bytes): 56
Type of the object: <class 'scipy.sparse.csc.csc_matrix'>

As it can be seen the size of the compressed matrices is 56 bytes and the original matrix size is 184 bytes.

Limit the output of the TOP command to a specific process name

I prefer the following so I can still use top interactively without having to look up the pids each time I run it:

top -p `pgrep process-name | tr "\\n" "," | sed 's/,$//'`

Of course if the processes change you'll have to re-run the command.

Explanation:

  • pgrep process-name returns a list of process ids which are separated by newlines
  • tr "\\n" "," translates these newlines into commas, because top wants a comma-separated list of process ids
  • sed is a stream editor, and sed 's/,$//' is used here to remove the trailing comma

android.app.Application cannot be cast to android.app.Activity

You are passing the Application Context not the Activity Context with

getApplicationContext();

Wherever you are passing it pass this or ActivityName.this instead.

Since you are trying to cast the Context you pass (Application not Activity as you thought) to an Activity with

you get this exception because you can't cast the Application to Activity since Application is not a sub-class of Activity.

Position: absolute and parent height?

This kind of layout problem can be solved with flexbox now, avoiding the need to know heights or control layout with absolute positioning, or floats. OP's main question was how to get a parent to contain children of unknown height, and they wanted to do it within a certain layout. Setting height of the parent container to "fit-content" does this; using "display: flex" and "justify-content: space-between" produces the section/column layout I think the OP was trying to create.

<section id="foo">
    <header>Foo</header>
    <article>
        <div class="main one"></div>
        <div class="main two"></div>
    </article>
</section>

<div style="clear:both">Clear won't do.</div>

<section id="bar">
    <header>bar</header>
    <article>
        <div class="main one"></div><div></div>
        <div class="main two"></div>
    </article>
</section>

* { text-align: center; }
article {
    height: fit-content ;
    display: flex;
    justify-content: space-between;
    background: whitesmoke;
}
article div {
    background: yellow;
    margin:20px;
    width: 30px;
    height: 30px;
    }

.one {

.two {

How to Delete a topic in apache kafka

Deletion of a topic has been supported since 0.8.2.x version. You have to enable topic deletion (setting delete.topic.enable to true) on all brokers first.

Note: Ever since 1.0.x, the functionality being stable, delete.topic.enable is by default true.

Follow this step by step process for manual deletion of topics

  1. Stop Kafka server
  2. Delete the topic directory, on each broker (as defined in the logs.dirs and log.dir properties) with rm -rf command
  3. Connect to Zookeeper instance: zookeeper-shell.sh host:port
  4. From within the Zookeeper instance:
    1. List the topics using: ls /brokers/topics
    2. Remove the topic folder from ZooKeeper using: rmr /brokers/topics/yourtopic
    3. Exit the Zookeeper instance (Ctrl+C)
  5. Restart Kafka server
  6. Confirm if it was deleted or not by using this command kafka-topics.sh --list --zookeeper host:port

In Excel, sum all values in one column in each row where another column is a specific value

If column A contains the amounts to be reimbursed, and column B contains the "yes/no" indicating whether the reimbursement has been made, then either of the following will work, though the first option is recommended:

=SUMIF(B:B,"No",A:A)

or

=SUMIFS(A:A,B:B,"No")

Here is an example that will display the amounts paid and outstanding for a small set of sample data.

 A         B            C                   D
 Amount    Reimbursed?  Total Paid:         =SUMIF(B:B,"Yes",A:A)
 $100      Yes          Total Outstanding:  =SUMIF(B:B,"No",A:A)
 $200      No
 $300      No
 $400      Yes
 $500      No

What is 'PermSize' in Java?

This blog post gives a nice explanation and some background. Basically, the "permanent generation" (whose size is given by PermSize) is used to store things that the JVM has to allocate space for, but which will not (normally) be garbage-collected (hence "permanent") (+). That means for example loaded classes and static fields.

There is also a FAQ on garbage collection directly from Sun, which answers some questions about the permanent generation. Finally, here's a blog post with a lot of technical detail.

(+) Actually parts of the permanent generation will be GCed, e.g. class objects will be removed when a class is unloaded. But that was uncommon when the permanent generation was introduced into the JVM, hence the name.

SQL/mysql - Select distinct/UNIQUE but return all columns?

You can do it with a WITH clause.

For example:

WITH c AS (SELECT DISTINCT a, b, c FROM tableName)
SELECT * FROM tableName r, c WHERE c.rowid=r.rowid AND c.a=r.a AND c.b=r.b AND c.c=r.c

This also allows you to select only the rows selected in the WITH clauses query.

How to find out "The most popular repositories" on Github?

Ranking by stars or forks is not working. Each promoted or created by a famous company repository is popular at the beginning. Also it is possible to have a number of them which are in trend right now (publications, marketing, events). It doesn't mean that those repositories are useful/popular.

The gitmostwanted.com project (repo at github) analyses GH Archive data in order to highlight the most interesting repositories and exclude others. Just compare the results with mentioned resources.

npm - "Can't find Python executable "python", you can set the PYTHON env variable."

You are running the Command Prompt as an admin. You have only defined PYTHON for your user. You need to define it in the bottom "System variables" section.

Also, you should only point the variable to the folder, not directly to the executable.

How to make a checkbox checked with jQuery?

I think you should use prop(), if you are using jQuery 1.6 onwards.

asp.net validation to make sure textbox has integer values

Visual Studio has got now integrated support for range checking and type checking :-

Try this :- For RANGE CHECKING Before validating/checking for a particular range of numbers Switch on to design view from markup view .Then :-

View>Toolbox>Validation

Now Drag on RangeValidator to your design page where you want to show the error message(ofcourse if user is inputting out of range value) now click on your RangeValidator control . Right click and select properties . In the Properties window (It is usually opened below solution bar) select on ERROR MESSAGE . Write :-

Number must be in range.

Now select on Control to validate and select your TextboxID (or write it anyways) from the drop down.Locate Type in the property bar itself and select down Integer.
Just above it you will find maximum and minimum value .Type in your desired number .

For Type checking (without any Range)
Before validating/checking for a particular range of numbers Switch on to design view from markup view .Then :-

View>Toolbox>Validation

Now Drag on CompareValidator to your design page where you want to show the error message(ofcourse if user is inputting some text in it). now click on your CompareValidator control . Right click and select properties . In the Properties window (It is usually opened below solution bar) select on ERROR MESSAGE . Write:-

Value must be a number .

Now locate ControltoValidate option and write your controlID name in it(alternatively you can also select from drop down).Locate the Operator option and write DataTypeCheck(alternatively you can also select from drop down)in it .Again locate the Type option and write Integer in it .

That's sit.

Alternatively you can write the following code in your aspx page :- <%--to validate without any range--%>

Create a day-of-week column in a Pandas dataframe using Python

Pandas 0.23+

Use pandas.Series.dt.day_name(), since pandas.Timestamp.weekday_name has been deprecated:

import pandas as pd

df = pd.DataFrame({'my_dates':['2015-01-01','2015-01-02','2015-01-03'],'myvals':[1,2,3]})
df['my_dates'] = pd.to_datetime(df['my_dates'])

df['day_of_week'] = df['my_dates'].dt.day_name()

Output:

    my_dates  myvals day_of_week
0 2015-01-01       1    Thursday
1 2015-01-02       2      Friday
2 2015-01-03       3    Saturday

Pandas 0.18.1+

As user jezrael points out below, dt.weekday_name was added in version 0.18.1 Pandas Docs

import pandas as pd

df = pd.DataFrame({'my_dates':['2015-01-01','2015-01-02','2015-01-03'],'myvals':[1,2,3]})
df['my_dates'] = pd.to_datetime(df['my_dates'])
df['day_of_week'] = df['my_dates'].dt.weekday_name

Output:

    my_dates  myvals day_of_week
0 2015-01-01       1    Thursday
1 2015-01-02       2      Friday
2 2015-01-03       3    Saturday

Original Answer:

Use this:

http://pandas.pydata.org/pandas-docs/stable/generated/pandas.Series.dt.dayofweek.html

See this:

Get weekday/day-of-week for Datetime column of DataFrame

If you want a string instead of an integer do something like this:

import pandas as pd

df = pd.DataFrame({'my_dates':['2015-01-01','2015-01-02','2015-01-03'],'myvals':[1,2,3]})
df['my_dates'] = pd.to_datetime(df['my_dates'])
df['day_of_week'] = df['my_dates'].dt.dayofweek

days = {0:'Mon',1:'Tues',2:'Weds',3:'Thurs',4:'Fri',5:'Sat',6:'Sun'}

df['day_of_week'] = df['day_of_week'].apply(lambda x: days[x])

Output:

    my_dates  myvals day_of_week
0 2015-01-01       1       Thurs
1 2015-01-02       2         Fri
2 2015-01-01       3       Thurs

Computational complexity of Fibonacci Sequence

It is bounded on the lower end by 2^(n/2) and on the upper end by 2^n (as noted in other comments). And an interesting fact of that recursive implementation is that it has a tight asymptotic bound of Fib(n) itself. These facts can be summarized:

T(n) = O(2^(n/2))  (lower bound)
T(n) = O(2^n)   (upper bound)
T(n) = T(Fib(n)) (tight bound)

The tight bound can be reduced further using its closed form if you like.

Changing tab bar item image and text color iOS

Swift

For Image:

custom.tabBarItem = UITabBarItem(title: "Home", image: UIImage(named: "tab_icon_normal"), selectedImage: UIImage(named: "tab_icon_selected"))

For Text:

UITabBarItem.appearance().setTitleTextAttributes([NSAttributedString.Key.foregroundColor: UIColor.gray], for: .normal)

UITabBarItem.appearance().setTitleTextAttributes([NSAttributedString.Key.foregroundColor: UIColor.red], for: .selected)

How to check if matching text is found in a string in Lua?

There are 2 options to find matching text; string.match or string.find.

Both of these perform a regex search on the string to find matches.

string.find()

string.find(subject string, pattern string, optional start position, optional plain flag)

Returns the startIndex & endIndex of the substring found.

The plain flag allows for the pattern to be ignored and intead be interpreted as a literal. Rather than (tiger) being interpreted as a regex capture group matching for tiger, it instead looks for (tiger) within a string.

Going the other way, if you want to regex match but still want literal special characters (such as .()[]+- etc.), you can escape them with a percentage; %(tiger%).

You will likely use this in combination with string.sub

Example

str = "This is some text containing the word tiger."
if string.find(str, "tiger") then
  print ("The word tiger was found.")
else
  print ("The word tiger was not found.")
end

string.match()

string.match(s, pattern, optional index)

Returns the capture groups found.

Example

str = "This is some text containing the word tiger."
if string.match(str, "tiger") then
  print ("The word tiger was found.")
else
  print ("The word tiger was not found.")
end

In oracle, how do I change my session to display UTF8?

The character set is part of the locale, which is determined by the value of NLS_LANG. As the documentation makes clear this is an operating system variable:

NLS_LANG is set as an environment variable on UNIX platforms. NLS_LANG is set in the registry on Windows platforms.

Now we can use ALTER SESSION to change the values for a couple of locale elements, NLS_LANGUAGE and NLS_TERRITORY. But not, alas, the character set. The reason for this discrepancy is - I think - that the language and territory simply effect how Oracle interprets the stored data, e.g. whether to display a comma or a period when displaying a large number. Wheareas the character set is concerned with how the client application renders the displayed data. This information is picked up by the client application at startup time, and cannot be changed from within.

Programmatically retrieve SQL Server stored procedure source that is identical to the source returned by the SQL Server Management Studio gui?

EXEC sp_helptext 'your procedure name';

This avoids the problem with INFORMATION_SCHEMA approach wherein the stored procedure gets cut off if it is too long.

Update: David writes that this isn't identical to his sproc...perhaps because it returns the lines as 'records' to preserve formatting? If you want to see the results in a more 'natural' format, you can use Ctrl-T first (output as text) and it should print it out exactly as you've entered it. If you are doing this in code, it is trivial to do a foreach to put together your results in exactly the same way.

Update 2: This will provide the source with a "CREATE PROCEDURE" rather than an "ALTER PROCEDURE" but I know of no way to make it use "ALTER" instead. Kind of a trivial thing, though, isn't it?

Update 3: See the comments for some more insight on how to maintain your SQL DDL (database structure) in a source control system. That is really the key to this question.

What to do on TransactionTooLargeException

You have clear your old InstanceState from onSaveInstanceState method, and it will work well. I am using FragmentStatePagerAdapter for my viewpager so I keep below Override method into my parent activity for clear InstanceState.

@Override
protected void onSaveInstanceState(Bundle InstanceState) {
             super.onSaveInstanceState(InstanceState);
             InstanceState.clear();
}

I found this solution from here android.os.TransactionTooLargeException on Nougat

How to remove a file from the index in git?

Depending on your workflow, this may be the kind of thing that you need rarely enough that there's little point in trying to figure out a command-line solution (unless you happen to be working without a graphical interface for some reason).

Just use one of the GUI-based tools that support index management, for example:

  • git gui <-- uses the Tk windowing framework -- similar style to gitk
  • git cola <-- a more modern-style GUI interface

These let you move files in and out of the index by point-and-click. They even have support for selecting and moving portions of a file (individual changes) to and from the index.

How about a different perspective: If you mess up while using one of the suggested, rather cryptic, commands:

  • git rm --cached [file]
  • git reset HEAD <file>

...you stand a real chance of losing data -- or at least making it hard to find. Unless you really need to do this with very high frequency, using a GUI tool is likely to be safer.

Working without the index

Based on the comments and votes, I've come to realize that a lot of people use the index all the time. I don't. Here's how:

  • Commit my entire working copy (the typical case): git commit -a
  • Commit just a few files: git commit (list of files)
  • Commit all but a few modified files: git commit -a then amend via git gui
  • Graphically review all changes to working copy: git difftool --dir-diff --tool=meld

How to save CSS changes of Styles panel of Chrome Developer Tools?

To answer the last part of your question about any extensions that can save changes, there is hotfix

It allows you to save changes from Chrome Dev Tools directly to GitHub. From there you can set up a post-receive hook on GitHub to automatically update your website.

How can I put a database under git (version control)?

Storing each level of database changes under git versioning control is like pushing your entire database with each commit and restoring your entire database with each pull. If your database is so prone to crucial changes and you cannot afford to loose them, you can just update your pre_commit and post_merge hooks. I did the same with one of my projects and you can find the directions here.

Javascript + Regex = Nothing to repeat error?

Well, in my case I had to test a Phone Number with the help of regex, and I was getting the same error,

Invalid regular expression: /+923[0-9]{2}-(?!1234567)(?!1111111)(?!7654321)[0-9]{7}/: Nothing to repeat'

So, what was the error in my case was that + operator after the / in the start of the regex. So enclosing the + operator with square brackets [+], and again sending the request, worked like a charm.

Following will work:

/[+]923[0-9]{2}-(?!1234567)(?!1111111)(?!7654321)[0-9]{7}/

This answer may be helpful for those, who got the same type of error, but their chances of getting the error from this point of view, as mine! Cheers :)

Splitting strings in PHP and get last part

As has been mentioned by others, if you don't assign the result of explode() to a variable, you get the message:

E_STRICT: Strict standards: Only variables should be passed by reference

The correct way is:

$words = explode('-', 'hello-world-123');
$id = array_pop($words); // 123
$slug = implode('-', $words); // hello-world

If table exists drop table then create it, if it does not exist just create it

Just put DROP TABLE IF EXISTS `tablename`; before your CREATE TABLE statement.

That statement drops the table if it exists but will not throw an error if it does not.

PostgreSQL: ERROR: operator does not exist: integer = character varying

I think it is telling you exactly what is wrong. You cannot compare an integer with a varchar. PostgreSQL is strict and does not do any magic typecasting for you. I'm guessing SQLServer does typecasting automagically (which is a bad thing).

If you want to compare these two different beasts, you will have to cast one to the other using the casting syntax ::.

Something along these lines:

create view view1
as
select table1.col1,table2.col1,table3.col3
from table1
inner join
table2
inner join
table3
on
table1.col4::varchar = table2.col5
/* Here col4 of table1 is of "integer" type and col5 of table2 is of type "varchar" */
/* ERROR: operator does not exist: integer = character varying */
....;

Notice the varchar typecasting on the table1.col4.

Also note that typecasting might possibly render your index on that column unusable and has a performance penalty, which is pretty bad. An even better solution would be to see if you can permanently change one of the two column types to match the other one. Literately change your database design.

Or you could create a index on the casted values by using a custom, immutable function which casts the values on the column. But this too may prove suboptimal (but better than live casting).

MATLAB error: Undefined function or method X for input arguments of type 'double'

The most common cause of this problem is that Matlab cannot find the file on it's search path. Basically, Matlab looks for files in:

  1. The current directory (pwd);
  2. Directly in a directory on the path (to see the path, type path at the command line)
  3. In a directory named @(whatever the class of the first argument is) that is in any directory above.

    As someone else suggested, you can use the command which, but that is often unhelpful in this case - it tells you Matlab can't find the file, which you knew already.

    So the first thing to do is make sure the file is locatable on the path.

    Next thing to do is make sure that the file that matlab is finding (use which) requires the same type as the first argument you are actually passing. I.el, If w is supposed to be different class, and there is a divrat function there, but w is actually empty, [], so matlab is looking for Double/divrat, when there is only a @(yourclass)/divrat. This is just speculation on my part, but this often bites me.

How to use mouseover and mouseout in Angular 6

Adding to what was already said.

if you want to *ngFor an element , and hide \ show elements in it, on hover, like you added in the comments, you should re-think the whole concept.

a more appropriate way to do it, does not involve angular at all. I would go with pure CSS instead, using its native :hover property.

something like:

App.Component.css

div span.only-show-on-hover {
    visibility: hidden;
}
div:hover span.only-show-on-hover  {
    visibility: visible;
}

App.Component.html

  <div *ngFor="let i of [1,2,3,4]" > hover me please.
    <span class="only-show-on-hover">you only see me when hovering</span>
  </div>

added a demo: https://stackblitz.com/edit/hello-angular-6-hvgx7n?file=src%2Fapp%2Fapp.component.html

Java String import

Java compiler imports 3 packages by default. 1. The package without name 2. The java.lang package(That's why you can declare String, Integer, System classes without import) 3. The current package (current file's package)

That's why you don't need to declare import statement for the java.lang package.

How can I set Image source with base64

System.Drawing.Image to stream C#

Try the following:

public static Stream ToStream(this Image image, ImageFormat format) {
  var stream = new System.IO.MemoryStream();
  image.Save(stream, format);
  stream.Position = 0;
  return stream;
}

Then you can use the following:

var stream = myImage.ToStream(ImageFormat.Gif);

Replace GIF with whatever format is appropriate for your scenario.

Body of Http.DELETE request in Angular2

Since the deprecation of RequestOptions, sending data as body in a DELETE request is not supported.

If you look at the definition of DELETE, it looks like this:

    delete<T>(url: string, options?: {
      headers?: HttpHeaders | {
         [header: string]: string | string[];
        };
      observe?: 'body';
      params?: HttpParams | {
          [param: string]: string | string[];
         };
      reportProgress?: boolean;
      responseType?: 'json';
      withCredentials?: boolean;
     }): Observable<T>;

You can send payload along with the DELETE request as part of the params in the options object as follows:

this.http.delete('http://testAPI:3000/stuff', { params: {
    data: yourData
     }).subscribe((data)=>.
        {console.log(data)});

However, note that params only accept data as string or string[] so you will not be able to send your own interface data unless you stringify it.

How does strtok() split the string into tokens in C?

This is how i implemented strtok, Not that great but after working 2 hr on it finally got it worked. It does support multiple delimiters.

#include "stdafx.h"
#include <iostream>
using namespace std;

char* mystrtok(char str[],char filter[])
{
    if(filter == NULL) {
        return str;
    }
    static char *ptr = str;
    static int flag = 0;
    if(flag == 1) {
        return NULL;
    }
    char* ptrReturn = ptr;
    for(int j = 0; ptr != '\0'; j++) {
        for(int i=0 ; filter[i] != '\0' ; i++) {
            if(ptr[j] == '\0') {
                flag = 1;
                return ptrReturn;
            }
            if( ptr[j] == filter[i]) {
                ptr[j] = '\0';
                ptr+=j+1;
                return ptrReturn;
            }
        }
    }
    return NULL;
}

int _tmain(int argc, _TCHAR* argv[])
{
    char str[200] = "This,is my,string.test";
    char *ppt = mystrtok(str,", .");
    while(ppt != NULL ) {
        cout<< ppt << endl;
        ppt = mystrtok(NULL,", .");
    }
    return 0;
}

How to implement class constants?

Either use readOnly modifier with the constant one needs to declare or one might declare a constant outside the class and use it specifically only in the required class using get operator.

How to convert const char* to char* in C?

You can use the strdup function which has the following prototype

char *strdup(const char *s1);

Example of use:

#include <string.h>

char * my_str = strdup("My string literal!");
char * my_other_str = strdup(some_const_str);

or strcpy/strncpy to your buffer

or rewrite your functions to use const char * as parameter instead of char * where possible so you can preserve the const

Loop through an array in JavaScript

If anybody is interested in the performance side of the multiple mechanisms available for Array iterations, I've prepared the following JSPerf tests:

https://jsperf.com/fastest-array-iterator

Performance results

Results:

The traditional for() iterator, is by far the fastest method, especially when used with the array length cached.

let arr = [1,2,3,4,5];

for(let i=0, size=arr.length; i<size; i++){
    // Do something
}

The Array.prototype.forEach() and the Array.prototype.map() methods are the slowest approximations, probably as a consequence of the function call overhead.

What does the NS prefix mean?

It is the NextStep (= NS) heritage. NeXT was the computer company that Steve Jobs formed after he quit Apple in 1985, and NextStep was it's operating system (UNIX based) together with the Obj-C language and runtime. Together with it's libraries and tools, NextStep was later renamed OpenStep (which was also the name on an API that NeXT developed together with Sun), which in turn later became Cocoa.

These different names are actually quite confusing (especially since some of the names differs only in which characters are upper or lower case..), try this for an explanation:

How do I define a method which takes a lambda as a parameter in Java 8?

Lambdas are purely a call-site construct: the recipient of the lambda does not need to know that a Lambda is involved, instead it accepts an Interface with the appropriate method.

In other words, you define or use a functional interface (i.e. an interface with a single method) that accepts and returns exactly what you want.

For this Java 8 comes with a set of commonly-used interface types in java.util.function (thanks to Maurice Naftalin for the hint about the JavaDoc).

For this specific use case there's java.util.function.IntBinaryOperator with a single int applyAsInt(int left, int right) method, so you could write your method like this:

static int method(IntBinaryOperator op){
    return op.applyAsInt(5, 10);
}

But you can just as well define your own interface and use it like this:

public interface TwoArgIntOperator {
    public int op(int a, int b);
}

//elsewhere:
static int method(TwoArgIntOperator operator) {
    return operator.op(5, 10);
}

Using your own interface has the advantage that you can have names that more clearly indicate the intent.

Matching an optional substring in a regex

You can do this:

([0-9]+) (\([^)]+\))? Z

This will not work with nested parens for Y, however. Nesting requires recursion which isn't strictly regular any more (but context-free). Modern regexp engines can still handle it, albeit with some difficulties (back-references).

SQL Server stored procedure creating temp table and inserting value

A SELECT INTO statement creates the table for you. There is no need for the CREATE TABLE statement before hand.

What is happening is that you create #ivmy_cash_temp1 in your CREATE statement, then the DB tries to create it for you when you do a SELECT INTO. This causes an error as it is trying to create a table that you have already created.

Either eliminate the CREATE TABLE statement or alter your query that fills it to use INSERT INTO SELECT format.

If you need a unique ID added to your new row then it's best to use SELECT INTO... since IDENTITY() only works with this syntax.

SELECT FOR UPDATE with SQL Server

Recently I had a deadlock problem because Sql Server locks more then necessary (page). You can't really do anything against it. Now we are catching deadlock exceptions... and I wish I had Oracle instead.

Edit: We are using snapshot isolation meanwhile, which solves many, but not all of the problems. Unfortunately, to be able to use snapshot isolation it must be allowed by the database server, which may cause unnecessary problems at customers site. Now we are not only catching deadlock exceptions (which still can occur, of course) but also snapshot concurrency problems to repeat transactions from background processes (which cannot be repeated by the user). But this still performs much better than before.

How to prevent gcc optimizing some statements in C?

Turning off optimization fixes the problem, but it is unnecessary. A safer alternative is to make it illegal for the compiler to optimize out the store by using the volatile type qualifier.

// Assuming pageptr is unsigned char * already...
unsigned char *pageptr = ...;
((unsigned char volatile *)pageptr)[0] = pageptr[0];

The volatile type qualifier instructs the compiler to be strict about memory stores and loads. One purpose of volatile is to let the compiler know that the memory access has side effects, and therefore must be preserved. In this case, the store has the side effect of causing a page fault, and you want the compiler to preserve the page fault.

This way, the surrounding code can still be optimized, and your code is portable to other compilers which don't understand GCC's #pragma or __attribute__ syntax.

Can't drop table: A foreign key constraint fails

I realize this is stale for a while and an answer had been selected, but how about the alternative to allow the foreign key to be NULL and then choose ON DELETE SET NULL.

Basically, your table should be changed like so:

ALTER TABLE 'bericht' DROP FOREIGN KEY 'your_foreign_key';

ALTER TABLE 'bericht' ADD CONSTRAINT 'your_foreign_key' FOREIGN KEY ('column_foreign_key') REFERENCES 'other_table' ('column_parent_key') ON UPDATE CASCADE ON DELETE SET NULL;

Personally I would recommend using both "ON UPDATE CASCADE" as well as "ON DELETE SET NULL" to avoid unnecessary complications, however your set up may dictate a different approach.

Hope this helps.

Assert equals between 2 Lists in Junit

You can use assertEquals in junit.

import org.junit.Assert;
import org.junit.Test;

    @Test
    public void test_array_pass()
    {
        List<String> actual = Arrays.asList("fee", "fi", "foe");
        List<String> expected = Arrays.asList("fee", "fi", "foe");
        Assert.assertEquals(actual,expected);
    }

If the order of elements is different then it will return error.

If you are asserting a model object list then you should override the equals method in the specific model.

    @Override
    public boolean equals(Object obj) {
        if (obj == this) {
            return true;
        }
        if (obj != null && obj instanceof ModelName) {
            ModelName other = (ModelName) obj;
            return this.getItem().equals(other.getItem()) ;
        }
        return false;
    }

php - How do I fix this illegal offset type error

Illegal offset type errors occur when you attempt to access an array index using an object or an array as the index key.

Example:

$x = new stdClass();
$arr = array();
echo $arr[$x];
//illegal offset type

Your $xml array contains an object or array at $xml->entry[$i]->source for some value of $i, and when you try to use that as an index key for $s, you get that warning. You'll have to make sure $xml contains what you want it to and that you're accessing it correctly.

How to write some data to excel file(.xlsx)

It is possible to write to an excel file without opening it using the Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0 and OleDb. Using OleDb, it behaves as if you were writing to a table using sql.

Here is the code I used to create and write to an new excel file. No extra references are needed

var connectionString = @"Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=C:\SomePath\ExcelWorkBook.xls;Extended Properties=Excel 8.0";
using (var excelConnection = new OleDbConnection(connectionString))
{
    // The excel file does not need to exist, opening the connection will create the
    // excel file for you
    if (excelConnection.State != ConnectionState.Open) { excelConnection.Open(); }

    // data is an object so it works with DBNull.Value
    object propertyOneValue = "cool!";
    object propertyTwoValue = "testing";

    var sqlText = "CREATE TABLE YourTableNameHere ([PropertyOne] VARCHAR(100), [PropertyTwo] INT)";

    // Executing this command will create the worksheet inside of the workbook
    // the table name will be the new worksheet name
    using (var command = new OleDbCommand(sqlText, excelConnection)) { command.ExecuteNonQuery(); }

    // Add (insert) data to the worksheet
    var commandText = $"Insert Into YourTableNameHere ([PropertyOne], [PropertyTwo]) Values (@PropertyOne, @PropertyTwo)";

    using (var command = new OleDbCommand(commandText, excelConnection))
    {
        // We need to allow for nulls just like we would with
        // sql, if your data is null a DBNull.Value should be used
        // instead of null
        command.Parameters.AddWithValue("@PropertyOne", propertyOneValue ?? DBNull.Value);
        command.Parameters.AddWithValue("@PropertyTwo", propertyTwoValue ?? DBNull.Value);

        command.ExecuteNonQuery();
    }
}

Proper way to use **kwargs in Python

Using **kwargs and default values is easy. Sometimes, however, you shouldn't be using **kwargs in the first place.

In this case, we're not really making best use of **kwargs.

class ExampleClass( object ):
    def __init__(self, **kwargs):
        self.val = kwargs.get('val',"default1")
        self.val2 = kwargs.get('val2',"default2")

The above is a "why bother?" declaration. It is the same as

class ExampleClass( object ):
    def __init__(self, val="default1", val2="default2"):
        self.val = val
        self.val2 = val2

When you're using **kwargs, you mean that a keyword is not just optional, but conditional. There are more complex rules than simple default values.

When you're using **kwargs, you usually mean something more like the following, where simple defaults don't apply.

class ExampleClass( object ):
    def __init__(self, **kwargs):
        self.val = "default1"
        self.val2 = "default2"
        if "val" in kwargs:
            self.val = kwargs["val"]
            self.val2 = 2*self.val
        elif "val2" in kwargs:
            self.val2 = kwargs["val2"]
            self.val = self.val2 / 2
        else:
            raise TypeError( "must provide val= or val2= parameter values" )

Difference between timestamps with/without time zone in PostgreSQL

I try to explain it more understandably than the referred PostgreSQL documentation.

Neither TIMESTAMP variants store a time zone (or an offset), despite what the names suggest. The difference is in the interpretation of the stored data (and in the intended application), not in the storage format itself:

  • TIMESTAMP WITHOUT TIME ZONE stores local date-time (aka. wall calendar date and wall clock time). Its time zone is unspecified as far as PostgreSQL can tell (though your application may knows what it is). Hence, PostgreSQL does no time zone related conversion on input or output. If the value was entered into the database as '2011-07-01 06:30:30', then no mater in what time zone you display it later, it will still say year 2011, month 07, day 01, 06 hours, 30 minutes, and 30 seconds (in some format). Also, any offset or time zone you specify in the input is ignored by PostgreSQL, so '2011-07-01 06:30:30+00' and '2011-07-01 06:30:30+05' are the same as just '2011-07-01 06:30:30'. For Java developers: it's analogous to java.time.LocalDateTime.

  • TIMESTAMP WITH TIME ZONE stores a point on the UTC time line. How it looks (how many hours, minutes, etc.) depends on your time zone, but it always refers to the same "physical" instant (like the moment of an actual physical event). The input is internally converted to UTC, and that's how it's stored. For that, the offset of the input must be known, so when the input contains no explicit offset or time zone (like '2011-07-01 06:30:30') it's assumed to be in the current time zone of the PostgreSQL session, otherwise the explicitly specified offset or time zone is used (as in '2011-07-01 06:30:30+05'). The output is displayed converted to the current time zone of the PostgreSQL session. For Java developers: It's analogous to java.time.Instant (with lower resolution though), but with JDBC and JPA 2.2 you are supposed to map it to java.time.OffsetDateTime (or to java.util.Date or java.sql.Timestamp of course).

Some say that both TIMESTAMP variations store UTC date-time. Kind of, but it's confusing to put it that way in my opinion. TIMESTAMP WITHOUT TIME ZONE is stored like a TIMESTAMP WITH TIME ZONE, which rendered with UTC time zone happens to give the same year, month, day, hours, minutes, seconds, and microseconds as they are in the local date-time. But it's not meant to represent the point on the time line that the UTC interpretation says, it's just the way the local date-time fields are encoded. (It's some cluster of dots on the time line, as the real time zone is not UTC; we don't know what it is.)

How can I create a copy of an Oracle table without copying the data?

If one needs to create a table (with an empty structure) just to EXCHANGE PARTITION, it is best to use the "..FOR EXCHANGE.." clause. It's available only from Oracle version 12.2 onwards though.

CREATE TABLE t1_temp FOR EXCHANGE WITH TABLE t1;

This addresses 'ORA-14097' during the 'exchange partition' seamlessly if table structures are not exactly copied by normal CTAS operation. I have seen Oracle missing some of the "DEFAULT" column and "HIDDEN" columns definitions from the original table.

ORA-14097: column type or size mismatch in ALTER TABLE EXCHANGE PARTITION

SQL - How to find the highest number in a column?

In PHP:

$sql = mysql_query("select id from customers order by id desc");
$rs = mysql_fetch_array($sql);
if ( !$rs ) { $newid = 1; } else { $newid = $rs[newid]+1; }

thus $newid = 23 if last record in column id was 22.

How to export database schema in Oracle to a dump file

It depends on which version of Oracle? Older versions require exp (export), newer versions use expdp (data pump); exp was deprecated but still works most of the time.

Before starting, note that Data Pump exports to the server-side Oracle "directory", which is an Oracle symbolic location mapped in the database to a physical location. There may be a default directory (DATA_PUMP_DIR), check by querying DBA_DIRECTORIES:

  SQL> select * from dba_directories;

... and if not, create one

  SQL> create directory DATA_PUMP_DIR as '/oracle/dumps';
  SQL> grant all on directory DATA_PUMP_DIR to myuser; -- DBAs dont need this grant

Assuming you can connect as the SYSTEM user, or another DBA, you can export any schema like so, to the default directory:

 $ expdp system/manager schemas=user1 dumpfile=user1.dpdmp

Or specifying a specific directory, add directory=<directory name>:

 C:\> expdp system/manager schemas=user1 dumpfile=user1.dpdmp directory=DUMPDIR

With older export utility, you can export to your working directory, and even on a client machine that is remote from the server, using:

 $ exp system/manager owner=user1 file=user1.dmp

Make sure the export is done in the correct charset. If you haven't setup your environment, the Oracle client charset may not match the DB charset, and Oracle will do charset conversion, which may not be what you want. You'll see a warning, if so, then you'll want to repeat the export after setting NLS_LANG environment variable so the client charset matches the database charset. This will cause Oracle to skip charset conversion.

Example for American UTF8 (UNIX):

 $ export NLS_LANG=AMERICAN_AMERICA.AL32UTF8

Windows uses SET, example using Japanese UTF8:

 C:\> set NLS_LANG=Japanese_Japan.AL32UTF8

python dict to numpy structured array

Let me propose an improved method when the values of the dictionnary are lists with the same lenght :

import numpy

def dctToNdarray (dd, szFormat = 'f8'):
    '''
    Convert a 'rectangular' dictionnary to numpy NdArray
    entry
        dd : dictionnary (same len of list
    retrun
        data : numpy NdArray
    '''
    names = dd.keys()
    firstKey = dd.keys()[0]
    formats = [szFormat]*len(names)
    dtype = dict(names = names, formats=formats)
    values = [tuple(dd[k][0] for k in dd.keys())]
    data = numpy.array(values, dtype=dtype)
    for i in range(1,len(dd[firstKey])) :
        values = [tuple(dd[k][i] for k in dd.keys())]
        data_tmp = numpy.array(values, dtype=dtype)
        data = numpy.concatenate((data,data_tmp))
    return data

dd = {'a':[1,2.05,25.48],'b':[2,1.07,9],'c':[3,3.01,6.14]}
data = dctToNdarray(dd)
print data.dtype.names
print data

Getting All Variables In Scope

Yes and no. "No" in almost every situation. "Yes," but only in a limited manner, if you want to check the global scope. Take the following example:

var a = 1, b = 2, c = 3;

for ( var i in window ) {
    console.log(i, typeof window[i], window[i]);
}

Which outputs, amongst 150+ other things, the following:

getInterface function getInterface()
i string i // <- there it is!
c number 3
b number 2
a number 1 // <- and another
_firebug object Object firebug=1.4.5 element=div#_firebugConsole
"Firebug command line does not support '$0'"
"Firebug command line does not support '$1'"
_FirebugCommandLine object Object
hasDuplicate boolean false

So it is possible to list some variables in the current scope, but it is not reliable, succinct, efficient, or easily accessible.

A better question is why do you want to know what variables are in scope?

Kill tomcat service running on any port, Windows

Based on all the info on the post, I created a little script to make the whole process easy.

@ECHO OFF
netstat -aon |find /i "listening"

IF "%killport%"=="" GOTO Kill

netstat -aon |find /i "listening" | find "%killport%"

ECHO Killing %killpid%!
taskkill /F /PID %killpid%

How to repair a serialized string which has been corrupted by an incorrect byte count length?

You will have to alter the collation type to utf8_unicode_ci and the problem will be fixed.

How do I get a list of all subdomains of a domain?

robotex tools which are free will let you do this but they make you enter the ip of the domain first:

  1. find out the ip (there's a good ff plugin which does this but I can't post the link cos this is my first post here!)
  2. do an ip search on robotex: http://www.robtex.com/ip/
  3. in the results page that follows click on the domain you're interested in>
  4. you are taken to a page that lists all subdomains + a load of other information such as mail server info

how to specify local modules as npm package dependencies

If it's acceptible to simply publish your modules preinstalled in node_modules alongside your other files, you can do it like this:

// ./node_modules/foo/package.json
{
  "name":"foo",
  "version":"0.0.1",
  "main":"index.js"
}

// ./package.json
...
"dependencies": {
  "foo":"0.0.1",
  "bar":"*"
}

// ./app.js
var foo = require('foo');

You may also want to store your module on git and tell your parent package.json to install the dependency from git: https://npmjs.org/doc/json.html#Git-URLs-as-Dependencies

Entity Framework Core: A second operation started on this context before a previous operation completed

I have a background service that performs an action for each entry in a table. The problem is, that if I iterate over and modify some data all on the same instance of the DbContext this error occurs.

One solution, as mentioned in this thread is to change the DbContext's lifetime to transient by defining it like

services.AddDbContext<DbContext>(ServiceLifetime.Transient);

but because I do changes in multiple different services and commit them at once using the SaveChanges() method this solution doesnt work in my case.

Because my code runs in a service, I was doing something like

using (var scope = Services.CreateScope())
{
   var entities = scope.ServiceProvider.GetRequiredService<IReadService>().GetEntities();
   var writeService = scope.ServiceProvider.GetRequiredService<IWriteService>();
   foreach (Entity entity in entities)
   {
       writeService.DoSomething(entity);
   }
}

to be able to use the service like if it was a simple request. So to solve the issue i just split the single scope into two, one for the query and the other for the write operations like so:

using (var readScope = Services.CreateScope())
using (var writeScope = Services.CreateScope())
{
   var entities = readScope.ServiceProvider.GetRequiredService<IReadService>().GetEntities();
   var writeService = writeScope.ServiceProvider.GetRequiredService<IWriteService>();
   foreach (Entity entity in entities)
   {
       writeService.DoSomething(entity);
   }
}

Like that, there are effevtively two different instances of the DbContext being used.

Another possible solution would be to make sure, that the read operation has terminated before starting the iteration. That is not very pratical in my case because there could be a lot of results that would all need to be loaded into memory for the operation which I tried to avoid by using a Queryable in the first place.

GET parameters in the URL with CodeIgniter

Even easier:

curl -X POST -d "param=value&param2=value" http://example.com/form.cgi

that plugin's pretty cool though.

LINQ to SQL - How to select specific columns and return strongly typed list

Basically you are doing it the right way. However, you should use an instance of the DataContext for querying (it's not obvious that DataContext is an instance or the type name from your query):

var result = (from a in new DataContext().Persons
              where a.Age > 18
              select new Person { Name = a.Name, Age = a.Age }).ToList();

Apparently, the Person class is your LINQ to SQL generated entity class. You should create your own class if you only want some of the columns:

class PersonInformation {
   public string Name {get;set;}
   public int Age {get;set;}
}

var result = (from a in new DataContext().Persons
              where a.Age > 18
              select new PersonInformation { Name = a.Name, Age = a.Age }).ToList();

You can freely swap var with List<PersonInformation> here without affecting anything (as this is what the compiler does).

Otherwise, if you are working locally with the query, I suggest considering an anonymous type:

var result = (from a in new DataContext().Persons
              where a.Age > 18
              select new { a.Name, a.Age }).ToList();

Note that in all of these cases, the result is statically typed (it's type is known at compile time). The latter type is a List of a compiler generated anonymous class similar to the PersonInformation class I wrote above. As of C# 3.0, there's no dynamic typing in the language.

UPDATE:

If you really want to return a List<Person> (which might or might not be the best thing to do), you can do this:

var result = from a in new DataContext().Persons
             where a.Age > 18
             select new { a.Name, a.Age };

List<Person> list = result.AsEnumerable()
                          .Select(o => new Person {
                                           Name = o.Name,
                                           Age = o.Age
                          }).ToList();

You can merge the above statements too, but I separated them for clarity.

How can I concatenate a string and a number in Python?

If it worked the way you expected it to (resulting in "abc9"), what would "9" + 9 deliver? 18 or "99"?

To remove this ambiguity, you are required to make explicit what you want to convert in this case:

"abc" + str(9)

How to insert a value that contains an apostrophe (single quote)?

The apostrophe character can be inserted by calling the CHAR function with the apostrophe's ASCII table lookup value, 39. The string values can then be concatenated together with a concatenate operator.

Insert into Person
  (First, Last)
Values
  'Joe',
  concat('O',char(39),'Brien')

Is it better to return null or empty collection?

We had this discussion among the development team at work a week or so ago, and we almost unanimously went for empty collection. One person wanted to return null for the same reason Mike specified above.

How to synchronize a static variable among threads running different instances of a class in Java?

Yes it is true.

If you create two instance of your class

Test t1 = new Test();
Test t2 = new Test();

Then t1.foo and t2.foo both synchronize on the same static object and hence block each other.

How can I remove a key from a Python dictionary?

If you need to remove a lot of keys from a dictionary in one line of code, I think using map() is quite succinct and Pythonic readable:

myDict = {'a':1,'b':2,'c':3,'d':4}
map(myDict.pop, ['a','c']) # The list of keys to remove
>>> myDict
{'b': 2, 'd': 4}

And if you need to catch errors where you pop a value that isn't in the dictionary, use lambda inside map() like this:

map(lambda x: myDict.pop(x,None), ['a', 'c', 'e'])
[1, 3, None] # pop returns
>>> myDict
{'b': 2, 'd': 4}

or in python3, you must use a list comprehension instead:

[myDict.pop(x, None) for x in ['a', 'c', 'e']]

It works. And 'e' did not cause an error, even though myDict did not have an 'e' key.

Cannot open local file - Chrome: Not allowed to load local resource

I've encounterd this problem, and here is my solution for Angular, I wrapped my Angular's asset folder in encodeURIComponent() function. It worked. But still, I'd like to know more about the risk of this solution if there's any:

```const URL = ${encodeURIComponent(/assets/office/file_2.pdf)} window.open(URL)
I used Angular 9, so this is my url when I clicked open local file:
```http://localhost:4200/%2Fassets%2Foffice%2Ffile_2.pdf```

How to execute a shell script in PHP?

You might have disabled the exec privileges, most of the LAMP packages have those disabled. Check your php.ini for this line:

disable_functions = exec

And remove the exec, shell_exec entries if there are there.

    return dict(width=width, height=height, size_bytes=size_bytes)

Determine which element the mouse pointer is on top of in JavaScript

Here's a solution for those that may still be struggling. You want to add a mouseover event on the 'parent' element of the child element(s) you want detected. The below code shows you how to go about it.

const wrapper = document.getElementById('wrapper') //parent element
const position = document.getElementById("displaySelection")

wrapper.addEventListener('mousemove', function(e) {
  let elementPointed = document.elementFromPoint(e.clientX, e.clientY)

  console.log(elementPointed)
});

java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: org.apache.log4j.Level

You also need to include the Log4J JAR file in the classpath.

Note that slf4j-log4j12-1.6.4.jar is only an adapter to make it possible to use Log4J via the SLF4J API. It does not contain the actual implementation of Log4J.

How to install Anaconda on RaspBerry Pi 3 Model B

If you're interested in generalizing to different architectures, you could also run the command above and substitute uname -m in with backticks like so:

How to get a variable type in Typescript?

I have checked a variable if it is a boolean or not as below

console.log(isBoolean(this.myVariable));

Similarly we have

isNumber(this.myVariable);
isString(this.myvariable);

and so on.

jQuery - selecting elements from inside a element

....but $('span', $('#foo')); doesn't work?

This method is called as providing selector context.

In this you provide a second argument to the jQuery selector. It can be any css object string just like you would pass for direct selecting or a jQuery element.

eg.

$("span",".cont1").css("background", '#F00');

The above line will select all spans within the container having the class named cont1.

SQL-Server: Is there a SQL script that I can use to determine the progress of a SQL Server backup or restore process?

Here's a simple script that generally does the trick for me:

SELECT command, percent_complete,total_elapsed_time, estimated_completion_time, start_time
  FROM sys.dm_exec_requests
  WHERE command IN ('RESTORE DATABASE','BACKUP DATABASE')

Convenient C++ struct initialisation

Extract the contants into functions that describe them (basic refactoring):

FooBar fb = { foo(), bar() };

I know that style is very close to the one you didn't want to use, but it enables easier replacement of the constant values and also explain them (thus not needing to edit comments), if they ever change that is.

Another thing you could do (since you are lazy) is to make the constructor inline, so you don't have to type as much (removing "Foobar::" and time spent switching between h and cpp file):

struct FooBar {
  FooBar(int f, float b) : foo(f), bar(b) {}
  int foo;
  float bar;
};

How do I specify the columns and rows of a multiline Editor-For in ASP.MVC?

How can I use Ruby to colorize the text output to a terminal?

Combining the answers above, you can implement something that works like the gem colorize without needing another dependency.
