How to call loading function with React useEffect only once

useMountEffect hook

Running a function only once after component mounts is such a common pattern that it justifies a hook of it's own that hides implementation details.

const useMountEffect = (fun) => useEffect(fun, [])

Use it in any functional component.

function MyComponent() {
    useMountEffect(function) // function will run only once after it has mounted.
    return <div>...</div>;
}

About the useMountEffect hook

When using useEffect with a second array argument, React will run the callback after mounting (initial render) and after values in the array have changed. Since we pass an empty array, it will run only after mounting.

How to send post request with x-www-form-urlencoded body

As you set application/x-www-form-urlencoded as content type so data sent must be like this format.

String urlParameters  = "param1=data1&param2=data2&param3=data3";

Sending part now is quite straightforward.

byte[] postData = urlParameters.getBytes( StandardCharsets.UTF_8 );
int postDataLength = postData.length;
String request = "<Url here>";
URL url = new URL( request );
HttpURLConnection conn= (HttpURLConnection) url.openConnection();
conn.setDoOutput(true);
conn.setInstanceFollowRedirects(false);
conn.setRequestMethod("POST");
conn.setRequestProperty("Content-Type", "application/x-www-form-urlencoded");
conn.setRequestProperty("charset", "utf-8");
conn.setRequestProperty("Content-Length", Integer.toString(postDataLength ));
conn.setUseCaches(false);
try(DataOutputStream wr = new DataOutputStream(conn.getOutputStream())) {
   wr.write( postData );
}

Or you can create a generic method to build key value pattern which is required for application/x-www-form-urlencoded.

private String getDataString(HashMap<String, String> params) throws UnsupportedEncodingException{
    StringBuilder result = new StringBuilder();
    boolean first = true;
    for(Map.Entry<String, String> entry : params.entrySet()){
        if (first)
            first = false;
        else
            result.append("&");
        result.append(URLEncoder.encode(entry.getKey(), "UTF-8"));
        result.append("=");
        result.append(URLEncoder.encode(entry.getValue(), "UTF-8"));
    }
    return result.toString();
}

Extract Data from PDF and Add to Worksheet

Using Bytescout PDF Extractor SDK is a good option. It is cheap and gives plenty of PDF related functionality. One of the answers above points to the dead page Bytescout on GitHub. I am providing a relevant working sample to extract table from PDF. You may use it to export in any format.

Set extractor = CreateObject("Bytescout.PDFExtractor.StructuredExtractor")

extractor.RegistrationName = "demo"
extractor.RegistrationKey = "demo"

' Load sample PDF document
extractor.LoadDocumentFromFile "../../sample3.pdf"

For ipage = 0 To extractor.GetPageCount() - 1

    ' starting extraction from page #"
    extractor.PrepareStructure ipage

    rowCount = extractor.GetRowCount(ipage)

    For row = 0 To rowCount - 1
        columnCount = extractor.GetColumnCount(ipage, row)

        For col = 0 To columnCount-1
            WScript.Echo "Cell at page #" +CStr(ipage) + ", row=" & CStr(row) & ", column=" & _
                CStr(col) & vbCRLF & extractor.GetCellValue(ipage, row, col)
        Next
    Next

Argument of type 'X' is not assignable to parameter of type 'X'

Also adding other Scenarios where you may see these Errors

  1. First Check you compiler version, Download latest Typescript compiler to support ES6 syntaxes

  2. typescript still produces output even with typing errors this doesn't actually block development,

When you see these errors Check for Syntaxes in initialization or when Calling these methods or variables,
Check whether the parameters of the functions are of wrong data Type,you initialized as 'string' and assigning a 'boolean' or 'number'

For Example

1.

 private errors: string;
    //somewhere in code you assign a boolean value to (string)'errors'
    this.errors=true
    or
    this.error=5

2.

 private values: Array<number>;
    this.values.push(value); //Argument of type 'X' is not assignable to parameter of type 'X'

The Error message here is because the Square brackets for Array Initialization is missing, It works even without it, but VS Code red alerts.

private values: Array<number> = [];
this.values.push(value);

Note:
Remember that Javascript typecasts according to the value assigned, So typescript notifies them but the code executes even with these errors highlighted in VS Code

Ex:

 var a=2;
 typeof(a) // "number"
 var a='Ignatius';
 typeof(a) // "string"

Single selection in RecyclerView

You need to clear the OnCheckedChangeListener before setting setChecked():

@Override
public void onBindViewHolder(final ViewHolder holder, int position) {

    holder.mRadioButton.setOnCheckedChangeListener(null);
    holder.mRadioButton.setChecked(position == mCheckedPosition);
    holder.mRadioButton.setOnCheckedChangeListener(new CompoundButton.OnCheckedChangeListener() {
        @Override
        public void onCheckedChanged(CompoundButton buttonView, boolean isChecked) {

            mCheckedPosition = position;
            notifyDataSetChanged();
        }
    });
}

This way it won't trigger the java.lang.IllegalStateException: Cannot call this method while RecyclerView is computing a layout or scrolling error.

java.net.ConnectException: failed to connect to /192.168.253.3 (port 2468): connect failed: ECONNREFUSED (Connection refused)

A connect failed: ECONNREFUSED (Connection refused) most likely means that there is nothing listening on that port AND that IP address. Possible explanations include:

  • the service has crashed or hasn't been (successfully!) started,
  • your client is trying to connect using the wrong IP address or port,
  • your client is trying to connect using a DNS name that resolves to the wrong IP, or
  • server access is being blocked by a firewall that is "refusing" on the server/service's behalf. This is pretty unlikely given that normal practice (these days) is for firewalls to "blackhole" all unwanted connection attempts.

Note that while you have an array variable called urls, it cannot contain real URLs. There is no overload of the Socket constructor that takes a real URL in any form. Indeed, if you supplied a URL in string form like this:

 new Socket("http://example.com", 42)

the result would be a different exception. Likewise, if you attempt to connect to an IP address on a network that you can't route to (e.g. "a different WiFi network"), then you will get a different exception; e.g. "host not found", "no route to host" or "no route to network".

bootstrap datepicker setDate format dd/mm/yyyy

I have some problems with jquery mobile 1.4.5. For example it seems accepting format change only passing from "option". And there are some refresh problem with the calendar using "option". For all that have the same problems I can suggest this code:

$( "#mydatepicker" ).datepicker( "option", "dateFormat", "dd/mm/yy" );
$( "#mydatepicker" ).datepicker( "setDate", new Date());
$('.ui-datepicker-calendar').hide();

System.Windows.Markup.XamlParseException' occurred in PresentationFramework.dll?

It took me ages to work this one out, so for the benefit of searchers:

I had a bizarre issue whereby the application worked in debug, but gave the XamlParseException once released.

After fixing the x86/x64 issue as detailed by Katjoek, the issue remained.

The issue was that a CEF tutorial said to bring down System.Windows.Interactivity from NuGet (even thought it's in the Extensions section of references in .NET) and bringing down from NuGet sets specific version to true.

Once deployed, a different version of System.Windows.Interactivity was being packed by a different application.

It's refusal to use a different version of the dll caused the whole application to crash with XamlParseException.

EOFException - how to handle?

The best way to handle this would be to terminate your infinite loop with a proper condition.

But since you asked for the exception handling:

Try to use two catches. Your EOFException is expected, so there seems to be no problem when it occures. Any other exception should be handled.

...
} catch (EOFException e) {
   // ... this is fine
} catch(IOException e) {
    // handle exception which is not expected
    e.printStackTrace();
}

How to export dataGridView data Instantly to Excel on button click?

In my opinion this is the easiest and instantly working method of exporting datagridview.

How do you select the entire excel sheet with Range using VBA?

You can simply use cells.select to select all cells in the worksheet. You can get a valid address by saying Range(Cells.Address).

If you want to find the last Used Range where you have made some formatting change or entered a value in you can call ActiveSheet.UsedRange and select it from there. Hope that helps

MySQLDump one INSERT statement for each data row

In newer versions change was made to the flags: from the documentation:

--extended-insert, -e

Write INSERT statements using multiple-row syntax that includes several VALUES lists. This results in a smaller dump file and speeds up inserts when the file is reloaded.

--opt

This option, enabled by default, is shorthand for the combination of --add-drop-table --add-locks --create-options --disable-keys --extended-insert --lock-tables --quick --set-charset. It gives a fast dump operation and produces a dump file that can be reloaded into a MySQL server quickly.

Because the --opt option is enabled by default, you only specify its converse, the --skip-opt to turn off several default settings. See the discussion of mysqldump option groups for information about selectively enabling or disabling a subset of the options affected by --opt.

--skip-extended-insert

Turn off extended-insert

How to convert image into byte array and byte array to base64 String in android?

They have wrapped most stuff need to solve your problem, one of the tests looks like this:

String filename = CSSURLEmbedderTest.class.getResource("folder.png").getPath().replace("%20", " ");
String code = "background: url(folder.png);";

StringWriter writer = new StringWriter();
embedder = new CSSURLEmbedder(new StringReader(code), true);
embedder.embedImages(writer, filename.substring(0, filename.lastIndexOf("/")+1));

String result = writer.toString();
assertEquals("background: url(" + folderDataURI + ");", result);

Java sending and receiving file (byte[]) over sockets

To avoid the limitation of the file size , which can cause the Exception java.lang.OutOfMemoryError to be thrown when creating an array of the file size byte[] bytes = new byte[(int) length];, instead we could do

    byte[] bytearray = new byte[1024*16];
    FileInputStream fis = null;
    try {

        fis = new FileInputStream(file);
        OutputStream output= socket.getOututStream();
        BufferedInputStream bis = new BufferedInputStream(fis);

        int readLength = -1;
        while ((readLength = bis.read(bytearray)) > 0) {
            output.write(bytearray, 0, readLength);

        }
        bis.close();
        output.close();
    }
    catch(Exception ex ){

        ex.printStackTrace();
    } //Excuse the poor exception handling...

How can I make my website's background transparent without making the content (images & text) transparent too?

You probably want an extra wrapper. use a div for the background and position it below your content..

http://jsfiddle.net/pixelass/42F2j/

HTML

<div id="background-image"></div>
<div id="content">
    Here is the content at opacity 1
    <img src="http://lorempixel.com/100/50/fashion/1/">

</div>

CSS

#background-image {
    background-image: url(http://lorempixel.com/400/200/sports/1/);
    opacity:0.4;
    position:absolute;
    top:0;
    left:0;
    height:200px;
    width:400px;
    z-index:0;
}
#content {
    z-index:1;
    position:relative;
}

Adding List<t>.add() another list

List<T>.Add adds a single element. Instead, use List<T>.AddRange to add multiple values.

Additionally, List<T>.AddRange takes an IEnumerable<T>, so you don't need to convert tripDetails into a List<TripDetails>, you can pass it directly, e.g.:

tripDetailsCollection.AddRange(tripDetails);

how to achieve transfer file between client and server using java socket

Reading quickly through the source it seems that you're not far off. The following link should help (I did something similar but for FTP). For a file send from server to client, you start off with a file instance and an array of bytes. You then read the File into the byte array and write the byte array to the OutputStream which corresponds with the InputStream on the client's side.

MVC ajax json post to controller action method

Below is how I got this working.

The Key point was: I needed to use the ViewModel associated with the view in order for the runtime to be able to resolve the object in the request.

[I know that that there is a way to bind an object other than the default ViewModel object but ended up simply populating the necessary properties for my needs as I could not get it to work]

[HttpPost]
  public ActionResult GetDataForInvoiceNumber(MyViewModel myViewModel)
  {
     var invoiceNumberQueryResult = _viewModelBuilder.HydrateMyViewModelGivenInvoiceDetail(myViewModel.InvoiceNumber, myViewModel.SelectedCompanyCode);
     return Json(invoiceNumberQueryResult, JsonRequestBehavior.DenyGet);
  }

The JQuery script used to call this action method:

var requestData = {
         InvoiceNumber: $.trim(this.value),
         SelectedCompanyCode: $.trim($('#SelectedCompanyCode').val())
      };

      $.ajax({
         url: '/en/myController/GetDataForInvoiceNumber',
         type: 'POST',
         data: JSON.stringify(requestData),
         dataType: 'json',
         contentType: 'application/json; charset=utf-8',
         error: function (xhr) {
            alert('Error: ' + xhr.statusText);
         },
         success: function (result) {
            CheckIfInvoiceFound(result);
         },
         async: true,
         processData: false
      });

Binary Data in JSON String. Something better than Base64

Data type really concerns. I have tested different scenarios on sending the payload from a RESTful resource. For encoding I have used Base64(Apache) and for compression GZIP(java.utils.zip.*).The payload contains information about film,an image and an audio file. I have compressed and encoded the image and audio files which drastically degraded the performance. Encoding before compression turned out well. Image and audio content were sent as encoded and compressed bytes [] .

Socket send and receive byte array

You need to either have the message be a fixed size, or you need to send the size or you need to use some separator characters.

This is the easiest case for a known size (100 bytes):

in = new DataInputStream(server.getInputStream());
byte[] message = new byte[100]; // the well known size
in.readFully(message);

In this case DataInputStream makes sense as it offers readFully(). If you don't use it, you need to loop yourself until the expected number of bytes is read.

JavaScriptSerializer.Deserialize - how to change field names

My requirements included:

  • must honor the dataContracts
  • must deserialize dates in the format received in service
  • must handle colelctions
  • must target 3.5
  • must NOT add an external dependency, especially not Newtonsoft (I'm creating a distributable package myself)
  • must not be deserialized by hand

My solution in the end was to use SimpleJson(https://github.com/facebook-csharp-sdk/simple-json).

Although you can install it via a nuget package, I included just that single SimpleJson.cs file (with the MIT license) in my project and referenced it.

I hope this helps someone.

Post an object as data using Jquery Ajax

You may pass an object to the data option in $.ajax. jQuery will send this as regular post data, just like a normal HTML form.

$.ajax({
    type: "POST",
    url: "TelephoneNumbers.aspx/DeleteNumber",
    data: dataO, // same as using {numberId: 1, companyId: 531}
    contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8",
    dataType: "json",
    success: function(msg) {
        alert('In Ajax');
    }
});

Make sure that the table you are returning has a schema. If not, then create a default schema (i.e. add a column in that table).

How do I handle newlines in JSON?

well, it is not really necessary to create a function for this when it can be done simply with 1 CSS class.

just wrap your text around this class and see the magic :D

 <p style={{whiteSpace: 'pre-line'}}>my json text goes here \n\n</p>

note: because you will always present your text in frontend with HTML you can add the style={{whiteSpace: 'pre-line'}} to any tag, not just the p tag.

How do I import global modules in Node? I get "Error: Cannot find module <module>"?

Setting the environment variable NODE_PATH to point to your global node_modules folder.

In Windows 7 or higher the path is something like %AppData%\npm\node_modules while in UNIX could be something like /home/sg/.npm_global/lib/node_modules/ but it depends on user configuration.

The command npm config get prefix could help finding out which is the correct path.

In UNIX systems you can accomplish it with the following command:

export NODE_PATH=`npm config get prefix`/lib/node_modules/

How to remove old and unused Docker images

docker rm `docker ps -aq`

or

docker rm $(docker ps -q -f status=exited)

getting exception "IllegalStateException: Can not perform this action after onSaveInstanceState"

This happens whenever you are trying to load a fragment but the activity has changed its state to onPause().This happens for example when you try to fetch data and load it to the activity but by the time the user has clicked some button and has moved to next activity.

You can solve this in two ways

You can use transaction.commitAllowingStateLoss() instead of transaction.commit() to load fragment but you may end up losing commit operation that is done.

or

Make sure that activity is in resume and not going to pause state when loading a fragment. Create a boolean and check if activity is not going to onPause() state.

@Override
public void onResume() {
    super.onResume();
    mIsResumed = true;
}

@Override
public void onPause() {
    mIsResumed = false;
    super.onPause();
}

then while loading fragment check if activity is present and load only when activity is foreground.

if(mIsResumed){
 //load the fragment
}

Uses of Action delegate in C#

Well one thing you could do is if you have a switch:

switch(SomeEnum)
{
  case SomeEnum.One:
      DoThings(someUser);
      break;
  case SomeEnum.Two:
      DoSomethingElse(someUser);
      break;
}

And with the might power of actions you can turn that switch into a dictionary:

Dictionary<SomeEnum, Action<User>> methodList =
    new Dictionary<SomeEnum, Action<User>>()

methodList.Add(SomeEnum.One, DoSomething);
methodList.Add(SomeEnum.Two, DoSomethingElse);

...

methodList[SomeEnum](someUser);

Or you could take this farther:

SomeOtherMethod(Action<User> someMethodToUse, User someUser)
{
    someMethodToUse(someUser);
}

....

var neededMethod = methodList[SomeEnum];
SomeOtherMethod(neededMethod, someUser);

Just a couple of examples. Of course the more obvious use would be Linq extension methods.

jQuery move to anchor location on page load

Did you tried JQuery's scrollTo method? http://demos.flesler.com/jquery/scrollTo/

Or you can extend JQuery and add your custom mentod:

jQuery.fn.extend({
 scrollToMe: function () {
   var x = jQuery(this).offset().top - 100;
   jQuery('html,body').animate({scrollTop: x}, 400);
}});

Then you can call this method like:

$("#header").scrollToMe();

TypeError: got multiple values for argument

This also happens if you forget selfdeclaration inside class methods.

Example:

class Example():
    def is_overlapping(x1, x2, y1, y2):
        # Thanks to https://stackoverflow.com/a/12888920/940592
        return max(x1, y1) <= min(x2, y2)

Fails calling it like self.is_overlapping(x1=2, x2=4, y1=3, y2=5) with:

{TypeError} is_overlapping() got multiple values for argument 'x1'

WORKS:

class Example():
    def is_overlapping(self, x1, x2, y1, y2):
        # Thanks to https://stackoverflow.com/a/12888920/940592
        return max(x1, y1) <= min(x2, y2)

jQuery event to trigger action when a div is made visible

my solution:

; (function ($) {
$.each([ "toggle", "show", "hide" ], function( i, name ) {
    var cssFn = $.fn[ name ];
    $.fn[ name ] = function( speed, easing, callback ) {
        if(speed == null || typeof speed === "boolean"){
            var ret=cssFn.apply( this, arguments )
            $.fn.triggerVisibleEvent.apply(this,arguments)
            return ret
        }else{
            var that=this
            var new_callback=function(){
                callback.call(this)
                $.fn.triggerVisibleEvent.apply(that,arguments)
            }
            var ret=this.animate( genFx( name, true ), speed, easing, new_callback )
            return ret
        }
    };
});

$.fn.triggerVisibleEvent=function(){
    this.each(function(){
        if($(this).is(':visible')){
            $(this).trigger('visible')
            $(this).find('[data-trigger-visible-event]').triggerVisibleEvent()
        }
    })
}
})(jQuery);

example usage:

if(!$info_center.is(':visible')){
    $info_center.attr('data-trigger-visible-event','true').one('visible',processMoreLessButton)
}else{
    processMoreLessButton()
}

function processMoreLessButton(){

Is there a command like "watch" or "inotifywait" on the Mac?

Converting pixels to dp

You can use this .. without Context

public static int pxToDp(int px) {
    return (int) (px / Resources.getSystem().getDisplayMetrics().density);
}

public static int dpToPx(int dp) {
    return (int) (dp * Resources.getSystem().getDisplayMetrics().density);
}

As @Stan mentioned .. using this approach may cause issue if system changes density. So be aware of that!

Personally I am using Context to do that. It's just another approach I wanted to share you with

Linq to Sql: Multiple left outer joins

I figured out how to use multiple left outer joins in VB.NET using LINQ to SQL:

Dim db As New ContractDataContext()

Dim query = From o In db.Orders _
            Group Join v In db.Vendors _
            On v.VendorNumber Equals o.VendorNumber _
            Into ov = Group _
            From x In ov.DefaultIfEmpty() _
            Group Join s In db.Status _
            On s.Id Equals o.StatusId Into os = Group _
            From y In os.DefaultIfEmpty() _
            Where o.OrderNumber >= 100000 And o.OrderNumber <= 200000 _
            Select Vendor_Name = x.Name, _
                   Order_Number = o.OrderNumber, _
                   Status_Name = y.StatusName

JQuery $.ajax() post - data in a java servlet

You don't want a string, you really want a JS map of key value pairs. E.g., change:

 data: myDataVar.toString(),

with:

var myKeyVals = { A1984 : 1, A9873 : 5, A1674 : 2, A8724 : 1, A3574 : 3, A1165 : 5 }

var saveData = $.ajax({
      type: 'POST',
      url: "someaction.do?action=saveData",
      data: myKeyVals,
      dataType: "text",
      success: function(resultData) { alert("Save Complete") }
});
saveData.error(function() { alert("Something went wrong"); });

jQuery understands key value pairs like that, it does NOT understand a big string. It passes it simply as a string.

UPDATE: Code fixed.

Meaning of - <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>

This is the XML optional preamble.

  • version="1.0" means that this is the XML standard this file conforms to
  • encoding="utf-8" means that the file is encoded using the UTF-8 Unicode encoding

GitHub - List commits by author

If the author has a GitHub account, just click the author's username from anywhere in the commit history, and the commits you can see will be filtered down to those by that author:

Screenshot showing where to click to filter down commits

You can also click the 'n commits' link below their name on the repo's "contributors" page:

Another screenshot

Alternatively, you can directly append ?author=<theusername> or ?author=<emailaddress> to the URL. For example, https://github.com/jquery/jquery/commits/master?author=dmethvin or https://github.com/jquery/jquery/commits/[email protected] both give me:

Screenshot with only Dave Methvin's commits

For authors without a GitHub account, only filtering by email address will work, and you will need to manually add ?author=<emailaddress> to the URL - the author's name will not be clickable from the commits list.

You can also get the list of commits by a particular author from the command line using

git log --author=[your git name]

Example:

git log --author=Prem

How to test REST API using Chrome's extension "Advanced Rest Client"

The discoverability is dismal, but it's quite clever how Advanced Rest Client handles basic authentication. The shortcut abraham mentioned didn't work for me, but a little poking around revealed how it does it.

The first thing you need to do is add the Authorization header: menus

Then, a nifty little thing pops up when you focus the value input (note the "construct" box in the lower right): construct the auth value

Clicking it will bring up a box. It even does OAuth, if you want! convenient inputs

Tada! If you leave the value field blank when you click "construct," it will add the Basic part to it (I assume it will also add the necessary OAuth stuff, too, but I didn't try that, as my current needs were for basic authentication), so you don't need to do anything. fills in the field as needed

Angularjs if-then-else construction in expression

Angular expressions do not support the ternary operator before 1.1.5, but it can be emulated like this:

condition && (answer if true) || (answer if false)

So in example, something like this would work:

<div ng-repeater="item in items">
    <div>{{item.description}}</div>
    <div>{{isExists(item) && 'available' || 'oh no, you don't have it'}}</div>
</div>

UPDATE: Angular 1.1.5 added support for ternary operators:

{{myVar === "two" ? "it's true" : "it's false"}}

SQL Server stored procedure Nullable parameter

It looks like you're passing in Null for every argument except for PropertyValueID and DropDownOptionID, right? I don't think any of your IF statements will fire if only these two values are not-null. In short, I think you have a logic error.

Other than that, I would suggest two things...

First, instead of testing for NULL, use this kind syntax on your if statements (it's safer)...

    ELSE IF ISNULL(@UnitValue, 0) != 0 AND ISNULL(@UnitOfMeasureID, 0) = 0

Second, add a meaningful PRINT statement before each UPDATE. That way, when you run the sproc in MSSQL, you can look at the messages and see how far it's actually getting.

How do I convert struct System.Byte byte[] to a System.IO.Stream object in C#?

The easiest way to convert a byte array to a stream is using the MemoryStream class:

Stream stream = new MemoryStream(byteArray);

Caused by: org.flywaydb.core.api.FlywayException: Validate failed. Migration Checksum mismatch for migration 2

Flyway is comparing the checksum of the SQL script with that of the previously run checksum. This exception typically occurs if you change a SQL script that has already been applied by Flyway, thus causing a checksum mismatch.

If this is development, you can drop your database and start the migrations from scratch.

If you're in production, never edit SQL scripts that have already been applied. Only create new SQL scripts going forward.

File.Move Does Not Work - File Already Exists

According to the docs for File.Move there is no "overwrite if exists" parameter. You tried to specify the destination folder, but you have to give the full file specification.

Reading the docs again ("providing the option to specify a new file name"), I think, adding a backslash to the destination folder spec may work.

Parsing CSV / tab-delimited txt file with Python

If the file is large, you may not want to load it entirely into memory at once. This approach avoids that. (Of course, making a dict out of it could still take up some RAM, but it's guaranteed to be smaller than the original file.)

my_dict = {}
for i, line in enumerate(file):
    if (i - 8) % 7:

Printing newlines with print() in R

An alternative to cat() is writeLines():

> writeLines("File not supplied.\nUsage: ./program F=filename")
File not supplied.
Usage: ./program F=filename
>

An advantage is that you don't have to remember to append a "\n" to the string passed to cat() to get a newline after your message. E.g. compare the above to the same cat() output:

> cat("File not supplied.\nUsage: ./program F=filename")
File not supplied.
Usage: ./program F=filename>

and

> cat("File not supplied.\nUsage: ./program F=filename","\n")
File not supplied.
Usage: ./program F=filename
>

The reason print() doesn't do what you want is that print() shows you a version of the object from the R level - in this case it is a character string. You need to use other functions like cat() and writeLines() to display the string. I say "a version" because precision may be reduced in printed numerics, and the printed object may be augmented with extra information, for example.

Remove the last line from a file in Bash

I had trouble with all the answers here because I was working with a HUGE file (~300Gb) and none of the solutions scaled. Here's my solution:

dd if=/dev/null of=<filename> bs=1 seek=$(echo $(stat --format=%s <filename> ) - $( tail -n1 <filename> | wc -c) | bc )

In words: Find out the length of the file you want to end up with (length of file minus length of length of its last line, using bc) and, set that position to be the end of the file (by dding one byte of /dev/null onto it).

This is fast because tail starts reading from the end, and dd will overwrite the file in place rather than copy (and parse) every line of the file, which is what the other solutions do.

NOTE: This removes the line from the file in place! Make a backup or test on a dummy file before trying it out on your own file!

Apache Prefork vs Worker MPM

Take a look at this for more detail. It refers to how Apache handles multiple requests. Preforking, which is the default, starts a number of Apache processes (2 by default here, though I believe one can configure this through httpd.conf). Worker MPM will start a new thread per request, which I would guess, is more memory efficient. Historically, Apache has used prefork, so it's a better-tested model. Threading was only added in 2.0.

Array versus List<T>: When to use which?

Since no one mention: In C#, an array is a list. MyClass[] and List<MyClass> both implement IList<MyClass>. (e.g. void Foo(IList<int> foo) can be called like Foo(new[] { 1, 2, 3 }) or Foo(new List<int> { 1, 2, 3 }) )

So, if you are writing a method that accepts a List<MyClass> as an argument, but uses only subset of features, you may want to declare as IList<MyClass> instead for callers' convenience.

Details:

Eclipse/Java code completion not working

Check the lib of your project. It may be that you have include two such jar files in which same class is available or say one class in code can be refrenced in two jar files. In such case also eclipse stops assisting code as it is totally confused.

Better way to check this is go to the file where assist is not working and comment all imports there, than add imports one by one and check at each import if code-assist is working or not.You can easily find the class with duplicate refrences.

Jquery Ajax beforeSend and success,error & complete

Maybe you can try the following :

var i = 0;
function AjaxSendForm(url, placeholder, form, append) {
var data = $(form).serialize();
append = (append === undefined ? false : true); // whatever, it will evaluate to true or false only
$.ajax({
    type: 'POST',
    url: url,
    data: data,
    beforeSend: function() {
        // setting a timeout
        $(placeholder).addClass('loading');
        i++;
    },
    success: function(data) {
        if (append) {
            $(placeholder).append(data);
        } else {
            $(placeholder).html(data);
        }
    },
    error: function(xhr) { // if error occured
        alert("Error occured.please try again");
        $(placeholder).append(xhr.statusText + xhr.responseText);
        $(placeholder).removeClass('loading');
    },
    complete: function() {
        i--;
        if (i <= 0) {
            $(placeholder).removeClass('loading');
        }
    },
    dataType: 'html'
});
}

This way, if the beforeSend statement is called before the complete statement i will be greater than 0 so it will not remove the class. Then only the last call will be able to remove it.

I cannot test it, let me know if it works or not.

Namenode not getting started

If your namenode is stuck in safemode you can ssh to namenode, su hdfs user and run the following command to turn off safemode:

hdfs dfsadmin -fs hdfs://server.com:8020 -safemode leave

404 Not Found The requested URL was not found on this server

If your .htaccess file is ok and the problem persist try to make the AllowOverride directive enabled in your httpd.conf. If the AllowOverride directive is set to None in your Apache httpd.config file, then .htaccess files are completely ignored. Example of enabled AllowOverride directive in httpd.config:

 <Directory />
    Options FollowSymLinks
    **AllowOverride All**
 </Directory>

Therefor restart your server.

How do I call ::CreateProcess in c++ to launch a Windows executable?

There is an example at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms682512(VS.85).aspx

Just replace the argv[1] with your constant or variable containing the program.

#include <windows.h>
#include <stdio.h>
#include <tchar.h>

void _tmain( int argc, TCHAR *argv[] )
{
    STARTUPINFO si;
    PROCESS_INFORMATION pi;

    ZeroMemory( &si, sizeof(si) );
    si.cb = sizeof(si);
    ZeroMemory( &pi, sizeof(pi) );

    if( argc != 2 )
    {
        printf("Usage: %s [cmdline]\n", argv[0]);
        return;
    }

    // Start the child process.
    if( !CreateProcess( NULL, // No module name (use command line)
        argv[1],        // Command line
        NULL, // Process handle not inheritable
        NULL, // Thread handle not inheritable
        FALSE, // Set handle inheritance to FALSE
        0,              // No creation flags
        NULL, // Use parent's environment block
        NULL, // Use parent's starting directory
        &si, // Pointer to STARTUPINFO structure
        &pi )           // Pointer to PROCESS_INFORMATION structure
    )
    {
        printf( "CreateProcess failed (%d).\n", GetLastError() );
        return;
    }

    // Wait until child process exits.
    WaitForSingleObject( pi.hProcess, INFINITE );

    // Close process and thread handles.
    CloseHandle( pi.hProcess );
    CloseHandle( pi.hThread );
}

Nullable DateTime conversion

Make sure those two types are nullable DateTime

var lastPostDate = reader[3] == DBNull.Value ?
                                        null :
                                   (DateTime?) Convert.ToDateTime(reader[3]);
  • Usage of DateTime? instead of Nullable<DateTime> is a time saver...
  • Use better indent of the ? expression like I did.

I have found this excellent explanations in Eric Lippert blog:

The specification for the ?: operator states the following:

The second and third operands of the ?: operator control the type of the conditional expression. Let X and Y be the types of the second and third operands. Then,

  • If X and Y are the same type, then this is the type of the conditional expression.

  • Otherwise, if an implicit conversion exists from X to Y, but not from Y to X, then Y is the type of the conditional expression.

  • Otherwise, if an implicit conversion exists from Y to X, but not from X to Y, then X is the type of the conditional expression.

  • Otherwise, no expression type can be determined, and a compile-time error occurs.

The compiler doesn't check what is the type that can "hold" those two types.

In this case:

  • null and DateTime aren't the same type.
  • null doesn't have an implicit conversion to DateTime
  • DateTime doesn't have an implicit conversion to null

So we end up with a compile-time error.

How to set specific window (frame) size in java swing?

Most layout managers work best with a component's preferredSize, and most GUI's are best off allowing the components they contain to set their own preferredSizes based on their content or properties. To use these layout managers to their best advantage, do call pack() on your top level containers such as your JFrames before making them visible as this will tell these managers to do their actions -- to layout their components.

Often when I've needed to play a more direct role in setting the size of one of my components, I'll override getPreferredSize and have it return a Dimension that is larger than the super.preferredSize (or if not then it returns the super's value).

For example, here's a small drag-a-rectangle app that I created for another question on this site:

import java.awt.*;
import java.awt.event.*;
import javax.swing.*;

public class MoveRect extends JPanel {
   private static final int RECT_W = 90;
   private static final int RECT_H = 70;
   private static final int PREF_W = 600;
   private static final int PREF_H = 300;
   private static final Color DRAW_RECT_COLOR = Color.black;
   private static final Color DRAG_RECT_COLOR = new Color(180, 200, 255);
   private Rectangle rect = new Rectangle(25, 25, RECT_W, RECT_H);
   private boolean dragging = false;
   private int deltaX = 0;
   private int deltaY = 0;

   public MoveRect() {
      MyMouseAdapter myMouseAdapter = new MyMouseAdapter();
      addMouseListener(myMouseAdapter);
      addMouseMotionListener(myMouseAdapter);
   }

   @Override
   protected void paintComponent(Graphics g) {
      super.paintComponent(g);
      if (rect != null) {
         Color c = dragging ? DRAG_RECT_COLOR : DRAW_RECT_COLOR;
         g.setColor(c);
         Graphics2D g2 = (Graphics2D) g;
         g2.draw(rect);
      }
   }

   @Override
   public Dimension getPreferredSize() {
      return new Dimension(PREF_W, PREF_H);
   }

   private class MyMouseAdapter extends MouseAdapter {

      @Override
      public void mousePressed(MouseEvent e) {
         Point mousePoint = e.getPoint();
         if (rect.contains(mousePoint)) {
            dragging = true;
            deltaX = rect.x - mousePoint.x;
            deltaY = rect.y - mousePoint.y;
         }
      }

      @Override
      public void mouseReleased(MouseEvent e) {
         dragging = false;
         repaint();
      }

      @Override
      public void mouseDragged(MouseEvent e) {
         Point p2 = e.getPoint();
         if (dragging) {
            int x = p2.x + deltaX;
            int y = p2.y + deltaY;
            rect = new Rectangle(x, y, RECT_W, RECT_H);
            MoveRect.this.repaint();
         }
      }
   }

   private static void createAndShowGui() {
      MoveRect mainPanel = new MoveRect();

      JFrame frame = new JFrame("MoveRect");
      frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
      frame.getContentPane().add(mainPanel);
      frame.pack();
      frame.setLocationByPlatform(true);
      frame.setVisible(true);
   }

   public static void main(String[] args) {
      SwingUtilities.invokeLater(new Runnable() {
         public void run() {
            createAndShowGui();
         }
      });
   }
}

Note that my main class is a JPanel, and that I override JPanel's getPreferredSize:

public class MoveRect extends JPanel {
   //.... deleted constants

   private static final int PREF_W = 600;
   private static final int PREF_H = 300;

   //.... deleted fields and constants

   //... deleted methods and constructors

   @Override
   public Dimension getPreferredSize() {
      return new Dimension(PREF_W, PREF_H);
   }

Also note that when I display my GUI, I place it into a JFrame, call pack(); on the JFrame, set its position, and then call setVisible(true); on my JFrame:

   private static void createAndShowGui() {
      MoveRect mainPanel = new MoveRect();

      JFrame frame = new JFrame("MoveRect");
      frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
      frame.getContentPane().add(mainPanel);
      frame.pack();
      frame.setLocationByPlatform(true);
      frame.setVisible(true);
   }

   public static void main(String[] args) {
      SwingUtilities.invokeLater(new Runnable() {
         public void run() {
            createAndShowGui();
         }
      });
   }
}

How to use document.getElementByName and getElementByTag?

getElementById returns either a reference to an element with an id matching the argument, or null if no such element exists in the document.

getElementsByName() (note the plural Elements) returns a (possibly empty) HTMLCollection of the elements with a name matching the argument. Note that IE treats the name and id attributes and properties as the same thing, so getElementsByName will return elements with matching id also.

getElementsByTagName is similar but returns a NodeList. It's all there in the relevant specifications.

What is a Memory Heap?

Heap is just an area where memory is allocated or deallocated without any order. This happens when one creates an object using the new operator or something similar. This is opposed to stack where memory is deallocated on the first in last out basis.

Difference between "move" and "li" in MIPS assembly language

The move instruction copies a value from one register to another. The li instruction loads a specific numeric value into that register.

For the specific case of zero, you can use either the constant zero or the zero register to get that:

move $s0, $zero
li   $s0, 0

There's no register that generates a value other than zero, though, so you'd have to use li if you wanted some other number, like:

li $s0, 12345678

Best Timer for using in a Windows service

As already stated both System.Threading.Timer and System.Timers.Timer will work. The big difference between the two is that System.Threading.Timer is a wrapper arround the other one.

System.Threading.Timer will have more exception handling while System.Timers.Timer will swallow all the exceptions.

This gave me big problems in the past so I would always use 'System.Threading.Timer' and still handle your exceptions very well.

PHP Curl And Cookies

You can define different cookies for every user with CURLOPT_COOKIEFILE and CURLOPT_COOKIEJAR. Make different file for every user so each one would have it's own cookie-based session on remote server.

Nested iframes, AKA Iframe Inception

I guess your problem is that jQuery is not loaded in your iframes.

The safest approach is to rely on pure DOM-based methods to parse your content.

Or else, start with jQuery, and then once inside your iframes, test once if typeof window.jQuery == 'undefined', if it's true, jQuery is not enabled inside it and fallback on DOM-based method.

Android dependency has different version for the compile and runtime

I had the same error, what solve my problem was. In my library instead of using compile or implementation i use "api". So in the end my dependencies:

How to include js and CSS in JSP with spring MVC

First you need to declare your resources in dispatcher-servlet file like this :

<mvc:resources mapping="/resources/**" location="/resources/folder/" />

Any request with url mapping /resources/** will directly look for /resources/folder/.

Now in jsp file you need to include your css file like this :

<link href="<c:url value="/resources/css/main.css" />" rel="stylesheet">

Similarly you can include js files.

Hope this solves your problem.

Run jar file with command line arguments

For the question

How can i run a jar file in command prompt but with arguments

.

To pass arguments to the jar file at the time of execution

java -jar myjar.jar arg1 arg2

In the main() method of "Main-Class" [mentioned in the manifest.mft file]of your JAR file. you can retrieve them like this:

String arg1 = args[0];
String arg2 = args[1];

Visual Studio: How to break on handled exceptions?

Check Managing Exceptions with the Debugger page, it explains how to set this up.

Essentially, here are the steps (during debugging):

  1. On the Debug menu, click Exceptions.

  2. In the Exceptions dialog box, select Thrown for an entire category of exceptions, for example, Common Language Runtime Exceptions.

    -or-

    Expand the node for a category of exceptions, for example, Common Language Runtime Exceptions, and select Thrown for a specific exception within that category.

Laravel 5 route not defined, while it is?

i had the same issue and find the solution lately.

you should check if your route is rather inside a route::group

like here:

Route::group(['prefix' => 'Auth', 'as' => 'Auth.', 'namespace' => 'Auth', 'middleware' => 'Auth']

if so you should use it in the view file. like here:

!! Form::model(Auth::user(), ['method' => 'PATCH', 'route' => 'Auth.preferences/' . Auth::user()->id]) !!}

How to find list intersection?

This is an example when you need Each element in the result should appear as many times as it shows in both arrays.

def intersection(nums1, nums2):
    #example:
    #nums1 = [1,2,2,1]
    #nums2 = [2,2]
    #output = [2,2]
    #find first 2 and remove from target, continue iterating

    target, iterate = [nums1, nums2] if len(nums2) >= len(nums1) else [nums2, nums1] #iterate will look into target

    if len(target) == 0:
            return []

    i = 0
    store = []
    while i < len(iterate):

         element = iterate[i]

         if element in target:
               store.append(element)
               target.remove(element)

         i += 1

Cannot find either column "dbo" or the user-defined function or aggregate "dbo.Splitfn", or the name is ambiguous

It's a table-valued function, but you're using it as a scalar function.

Try:

where Emp_Id IN (SELECT i.items FROM dbo.Splitfn(@Id,',') AS i)

But... also consider changing your function into an inline TVF, as it'll perform better.

How to calculate the CPU usage of a process by PID in Linux from C?

You need to parse out the data from /proc/<PID>/stat. These are the first few fields (from Documentation/filesystems/proc.txt in your kernel source):

Table 1-3: Contents of the stat files (as of 2.6.22-rc3)
..............................................................................
 Field          Content
  pid           process id
  tcomm         filename of the executable
  state state (R is running, S is sleeping, D is sleeping in an
                uninterruptible wait, Z is zombie, T is traced or stopped)
  ppid process id of the parent process
  pgrp          pgrp of the process
  sid           session id
  tty_nr        tty the process uses
  tty_pgrp      pgrp of the tty
  flags         task flags
  min_flt       number of minor faults
  cmin_flt number of minor faults with child's
  maj_flt       number of major faults
  cmaj_flt number of major faults with child's
  utime         user mode jiffies
  stime         kernel mode jiffies
  cutime user mode jiffies with child's
  cstime kernel mode jiffies with child's

You're probably after utime and/or stime. You'll also need to read the cpu line from /proc/stat, which looks like:

cpu  192369 7119 480152 122044337 14142 9937 26747 0 0

This tells you the cumulative CPU time that's been used in various categories, in units of jiffies. You need to take the sum of the values on this line to get a time_total measure.

Read both utime and stime for the process you're interested in, and read time_total from /proc/stat. Then sleep for a second or so, and read them all again. You can now calculate the CPU usage of the process over the sampling time, with:

user_util = 100 * (utime_after - utime_before) / (time_total_after - time_total_before);
sys_util = 100 * (stime_after - stime_before) / (time_total_after - time_total_before);

Make sense?

Ansible: how to get output to display

Every Ansible task when run can save its results into a variable. To do this, you have to specify which variable to save the results into. Do this with the register parameter, independently of the module used.

Once you save the results to a variable you can use it later in any of the subsequent tasks. So for example if you want to get the standard output of a specific task you can write the following:

---
- hosts: localhost
  tasks:
    - shell: ls
      register: shell_result

    - debug:
        var: shell_result.stdout_lines

Here register tells ansible to save the response of the module into the shell_result variable, and then we use the debug module to print the variable out.

An example run would look like the this:

PLAY [localhost] ***************************************************************

TASK [command] *****************************************************************
changed: [localhost]

TASK [debug] *******************************************************************
ok: [localhost] => {
    "shell_result.stdout_lines": [
        "play.yml"
    ]
}

Responses can contain multiple fields. stdout_lines is one of the default fields you can expect from a module's response.

Not all fields are available from all modules, for example for a module which doesn't return anything to the standard out you wouldn't expect anything in the stdout or stdout_lines values, however the msg field might be filled in this case. Also there are some modules where you might find something in a non-standard variable, for these you can try to consult the module's documentation for these non-standard return values.

Alternatively you can increase the verbosity level of ansible-playbook. You can choose between different verbosity levels: -v, -vvv and -vvvv. For example when running the playbook with verbosity (-vvv) you get this:

PLAY [localhost] ***************************************************************

TASK [command] *****************************************************************
(...)
changed: [localhost] => {
    "changed": true,
    "cmd": "ls",
    "delta": "0:00:00.007621",
    "end": "2017-02-17 23:04:41.912570",
    "invocation": {
        "module_args": {
            "_raw_params": "ls",
            "_uses_shell": true,
            "chdir": null,
            "creates": null,
            "executable": null,
            "removes": null,
            "warn": true
        },
        "module_name": "command"
    },
    "rc": 0,
    "start": "2017-02-17 23:04:41.904949",
    "stderr": "",
    "stdout": "play.retry\nplay.yml",
    "stdout_lines": [
        "play.retry",
        "play.yml"
    ],
    "warnings": []
}

As you can see this will print out the response of each of the modules, and all of the fields available. You can see that the stdout_lines is available, and its contents are what we expect.

To answer your main question about the jenkins_script module, if you check its documentation, you can see that it returns the output in the output field, so you might want to try the following:

tasks:
  - jenkins_script:
      script: (...)
    register: jenkins_result

  - debug:
      var: jenkins_result.output

How to publish a website made by Node.js to Github Pages?

I was able to set up github actions to automatically commit the results of a node build command (yarn build in my case but it should work with npm too) to the gh-pages branch whenever a new commit is pushed to master.

While not completely ideal as i'd like to avoid committing the built files, it seems like this is currently the only way to publish to github pages.

I based my workflow off of this guide for a different react library, and had to make the following changes to get it to work for me:

  • updated the "setup node" step to use the version found here since the one from the sample i was basing it off of was throwing errors because it could not find the correct action.
  • remove the line containing yarn export because that command does not exist and it doesn't seem to add anything helpful (you may also want to change the build line above it to suit your needs)
  • I also added an env directive to the yarn build step so that I can include the SHA hash of the commit that generated the build inside my app, but this is optional

Here is my full github action:

name: github pages

on:
    push:
        branches:
        - master

    deploy:
        runs-on: ubuntu-18.04

        - uses: actions/checkout@v2

        - name: Setup Node
            uses: actions/setup-node@v2-beta
            with:
            node-version: '12'

        - name: Get yarn cache
            id: yarn-cache
            run: echo "::set-output name=dir::$(yarn cache dir)"

        - name: Cache dependencies
            uses: actions/cache@v2
            with:
            path: ${{ steps.yarn-cache.outputs.dir }}
            key: ${{ runner.os }}-yarn-${{ hashFiles('**/yarn.lock') }}
            restore-keys: |
                ${{ runner.os }}-yarn-
        - run: yarn install --frozen-lockfile
        - run: yarn build
            env:
            REACT_APP_GIT_SHA: ${{ github.SHA }}

        - name: Deploy
            uses: peaceiris/actions-gh-pages@v3
            with:
            github_token: ${{ secrets.GITHUB_TOKEN }}
            publish_dir: ./build

Alternative solution

The docs for next.js also provides instructions for setting up with Vercel which appears to be a hosting service for node.js apps similar to github pages. I have not tried this though and so cannot speak to how well it works.

Grunt watch error - Waiting...Fatal error: watch ENOSPC

After doing some research found the solution. Run the below command.

echo fs.inotify.max_user_watches=524288 | sudo tee -a /etc/sysctl.conf && sudo sysctl -p

For Arch Linux add this line to /etc/sysctl.d/99-sysctl.conf:

fs.inotify.max_user_watches=524288

AngularJS: How to make angular load script inside ng-include?

Unfortunately all the answers in this post didn't work for me. I kept getting following error.

Failed to execute 'write' on 'Document': It isn't possible to write into a document from an asynchronously-loaded external script unless it is explicitly opened.

I found out that this happens if you use some 3rd party widgets (demandforce in my case) that also call additional external JavaScript files and try to insert HTML. Looking at the console and the JavaScript code, I noticed multiple lines like this:

document.write("<script type='text/javascript' "..."'></script>");

I used 3rd party JavaScript files (htmlParser.js and postscribe.js) from: https://github.com/krux/postscribe. That solved the problem in this post and fixed the above error at the same time.

(This was a quick and dirty way around under the tight deadline I have now. I am not comfortable with using 3rd party JavaScript library however. I hope someone can come up with a cleaner and better way.)

How to remove element from an array in JavaScript?

Others answers are great, I just wanted to add an alternative solution with ES6 Array function : filter.

filter() creates a new array with elements that fall under a given criteria from an existing array.

So you can easily use it to remove items that not pass the criteria. Benefits of this function is that you can use it on complex array not just string and number.

Some examples :

Remove first element :

// Not very useful but it works
function removeFirst(element, index) {
  return index > 0;
}
var arr = [1,2,3,5,6].filter(removeFirst); // [2,3,4,5,6]

Remove second element :

function removeSecond(element, index) {
  return index != 1;
}
var arr = [1,2,3,5,6].filter(removeSecond); // [1,3,4,5,6]

Remove odd element :

function removeOdd(element, index) {
  return !(element % 2);
}
var arr = [1,2,3,5,6].filter(removeOdd); [2,4,6]

Remove items not in stock

const inventory = [
  {name: 'Apple', qty: 2},
  {name: 'Banana', qty: 0},
  {name: 'Orange', qty: 5}
];

const res = inventory.find( product => product.qty > 0);

How to remove duplicates from a list?

I suspect you might not have Customer.equals() implemented properly (or at all).

List.contains() uses equals() to verify whether any of its elements is identical to the object passed as parameter. However, the default implementation of equals tests for physical identity, not value identity. So if you have not overwritten it in Customer, it will return false for two distinct Customer objects having identical state.

Here are the nitty-gritty details of how to implement equals (and hashCode, which is its pair - you must practically always implement both if you need to implement either of them). Since you haven't shown us the Customer class, it is difficult to give more concrete advice.

As others have noted, you are better off using a Set rather than doing the job by hand, but even for that, you still need to implement those methods.

How to write multiple conditions in Makefile.am with "else if"

I would accept ldav1s' answer if I were you, but I just want to point out that 'else if' can be written in terms of 'else's and 'if's in any language:

if HAVE_CLIENT
  libtest_LIBS = $(top_builddir)/libclient.la
else
  if HAVE_SERVER
    libtest_LIBS = $(top_builddir)/libserver.la
  else
    libtest_LIBS =
  endif
endif

mysqldump exports only one table

try this. There are in general three ways to use mysqldump—

in order to dump a set of one or more tables,

shell> mysqldump [options] db_name [tbl_name ...]

a set of one or more complete databases

shell> mysqldump [options] --databases db_name ...

or an entire MySQL server—as shown here:

shell> mysqldump [options] --all-databases

Select distinct values from a table field

Say your model is 'Shop'

class Shop(models.Model):
    street = models.CharField(max_length=150)
    city = models.CharField(max_length=150)

    # some of your models may have explicit ordering
    class Meta:
        ordering = ('city')

Since you may have the Meta class ordering attribute set, you can use order_by() without parameters to clear any ordering when using distinct(). See the documentation under order_by()

If you don’t want any ordering to be applied to a query, not even the default ordering, call order_by() with no parameters.

and distinct() in the note where it discusses issues with using distinct() with ordering.

To query your DB, you just have to call:

models.Shop.objects.order_by().values('city').distinct()

It returns a dictionnary

or

models.Shop.objects.order_by().values_list('city').distinct()

This one returns a ValuesListQuerySet which you can cast to a list. You can also add flat=True to values_list to flatten the results.

How can I convert a DateTime to an int?

Do you want an 'int' that looks like 20110425171213? In which case you'd be better off ToString with the appropriate format (something like 'yyyyMMddHHmmss') and then casting the string to an integer (or a long, unsigned int as it will be way more than 32 bits).

If you want an actual numeric value (the number of seconds since the year 0) then that's a very different calculation, e.g.

result = second
result += minute * 60
result += hour * 60 * 60
result += day * 60 * 60 * 24

etc.

But you'd be better off using Ticks.

Null check in an enhanced for loop

For anyone uninterested in writing their own static null safety method you can use: commons-lang's org.apache.commons.lang.ObjectUtils.defaultIfNull(Object, Object). For example:

    for (final String item :
    (List<String>)ObjectUtils.defaultIfNull(items, Collections.emptyList())) { ... }

String's Maximum length in Java - calling length() method

As mentioned in Takahiko Kawasaki's answer, java represents Unicode strings in the form of modified UTF-8 and in JVM-Spec CONSTANT_UTF8_info Structure, 2 bytes are allocated to length (and not the no. of characters of String).
To extend the answer, the ASM jvm bytecode library's putUTF8 method, contains this:

public ByteVector putUTF8(final String stringValue) {
    int charLength = stringValue.length();
    if (charLength > 65535) {
   // If no. of characters> 65535, than however UTF-8 encoded length, wont fit in 2 bytes.
      throw new IllegalArgumentException("UTF8 string too large");
    }
    for (int i = 0; i < charLength; ++i) {
      char charValue = stringValue.charAt(i);
      if (charValue >= '\u0001' && charValue <= '\u007F') {
        // Unicode code-point encoding in utf-8 fits in 1 byte.
        currentData[currentLength++] = (byte) charValue;
      } else {
        // doesnt fit in 1 byte.
        length = currentLength;
        return encodeUtf8(stringValue, i, 65535);
      }
    }
    ...
}

But when code-point mapping > 1byte, it calls encodeUTF8 method:

final ByteVector encodeUtf8(final String stringValue, final int offset, final int maxByteLength /*= 65535 */) {
    int charLength = stringValue.length();
    int byteLength = offset;
    for (int i = offset; i < charLength; ++i) {
      char charValue = stringValue.charAt(i);
      if (charValue >= 0x0001 && charValue <= 0x007F) {
        byteLength++;
      } else if (charValue <= 0x07FF) {
        byteLength += 2;
      } else {
        byteLength += 3;
      }
    }
   ...
}

In this sense, the max string length is 65535 bytes, i.e the utf-8 encoding length. and not char count
You can find the modified-Unicode code-point range of JVM, from the above utf8 struct link.

Multidimensional arrays in Swift

As stated by the other answers, you are adding the same array of rows to each column. To create a multidimensional array you must use a loop

var NumColumns = 27
var NumRows = 52
var array = Array<Array<Double>>()
for column in 0..NumColumns {
    array.append(Array(count:NumRows, repeatedValue:Double()))
}

How to loop through a checkboxlist and to find what's checked and not checked?

Try something like this:

foreach (ListItem listItem in clbIncludes.Items)
{

        //do some work
    }
    else {
        //do something else
    }
}

Why can't I use switch statement on a String?

For years we've been using a(n open source) preprocessor for this.

//#switch(target)
case "foo": code;
//#end

Preprocessed files are named Foo.jpp and get processed into Foo.java with an ant script.

Advantage is it is processed into Java that runs on 1.0 (although typically we only supported back to 1.4). Also it was far easier to do this (lots of string switches) compared to fudging it with enums or other workarounds - code was a lot easier to read, maintain, and understand. IIRC (can't provide statistics or technical reasoning at this point) it was also faster than the natural Java equivalents.

Disadvantages are you aren't editing Java so it's a bit more workflow (edit, process, compile/test) plus an IDE will link back to the Java which is a little convoluted (the switch becomes a series of if/else logic steps) and the switch case order is not maintained.

I wouldn't recommend it for 1.7+ but it's useful if you want to program Java that targets earlier JVMs (since Joe public rarely has the latest installed).

You can get it from SVN or browse the code online. You'll need EBuild to build it as-is.

Difference between Role and GrantedAuthority in Spring Security

AFAIK GrantedAuthority and roles are same in spring security. GrantedAuthority's getAuthority() string is the role (as per default implementation SimpleGrantedAuthority).

For your case may be you can use Hierarchical Roles

<bean id="roleVoter" class="org.springframework.security.access.vote.RoleHierarchyVoter">
    <constructor-arg ref="roleHierarchy" />
</bean>
<bean id="roleHierarchy"
        class="org.springframework.security.access.hierarchicalroles.RoleHierarchyImpl">
    <property name="hierarchy">
        <value>
            ROLE_ADMIN > ROLE_createSubUsers
            ROLE_ADMIN > ROLE_deleteAccounts
            ROLE_USER > ROLE_viewAccounts
        </value>
    </property>
</bean>

Not the exact sol you looking for, but hope it helps

Edit: Reply to your comment

Role is like a permission in spring-security. using intercept-url with hasRole provides a very fine grained control of what operation is allowed for which role/permission.

The way we handle in our application is, we define permission (i.e. role) for each operation (or rest url) for e.g. view_account, delete_account, add_account etc. Then we create logical profiles for each user like admin, guest_user, normal_user. The profiles are just logical grouping of permissions, independent of spring-security. When a new user is added, a profile is assigned to it (having all permissible permissions). Now when ever user try to perform some action, permission/role for that action is checked against user grantedAuthorities.

Also the defaultn RoleVoter uses prefix ROLE_, so any authority starting with ROLE_ is considered as role, you can change this default behavior by using a custom RolePrefix in role voter and using it in spring security.

How do I download a tarball from GitHub using cURL?

Use the -L option to follow redirects:

Had the exact same problem and none of the answers here helped me. Till I find this thread and post

Difference between Interceptor and Filter in Spring MVC

A HandlerInterceptor gives you more fine-grained control than a filter, because you have access to the actual target "handler" - this means that whatever action you perform can vary depending on what the request is actually doing (whereas the servlet filter is generically applied to all requests - only able to take into account the parameters of each request). The handlerInterceptor also provides 3 different methods, so that you can apply behavior prior to calling a handler, after the handler has completed but prior to view rendering (where you may even bypass view rendering altogether), or after the view itself has been rendered. Also, you can set up different interceptors for different groups of handlers - the interceptors are configured on the handlerMapping, and there may be multiple handlerMappings.

Therefore, if you have a need to do something completely generic (e.g. log all requests), then a filter is sufficient - but if the behavior depends on the target handler or you want to do something between the request handling and view rendering, then the HandlerInterceptor provides that flexibility.

Catch checked change event of a checkbox

Use below code snippet to achieve this.:

$('#checkAll').click(function(){
  $("#checkboxes input").attr('checked','checked');
});

$('#UncheckAll').click(function(){
  $("#checkboxes input").attr('checked',false);
});

Or you can do the same with single check box:

$('#checkAll').click(function(e) {
  if($('#checkAll').attr('checked') == 'checked') {
    $("#checkboxes input").attr('checked','checked');
    $('#checkAll').val('off');
  } else {
    $("#checkboxes input").attr('checked', false);
    $('#checkAll').val('on');
  }
});

What is the most efficient way of finding all the factors of a number in Python?

Using set(...) makes the code slightly slower, and is only really necessary for when you check the square root. Here's my version:

    f = [1]
    sq = int(math.sqrt(num))

        if num % i == 0:
            f.append(i)
            f.append(num/i)
    if sq > 1 and num % sq == 0:
        f.append(sq)
        if sq*sq != num:
            f.append(num/sq)
    return f

The if sq*sq != num: condition is necessary for numbers like 12, where the square root is not an integer, but the floor of the square root is a factor.

Note that this version doesn't return the number itself, but that is an easy fix if you want it. The output also isn't sorted.

I timed it running 10000 times on all numbers 1-200 and 100 times on all numbers 1-5000. It outperforms all the other versions I tested, including dansalmo's, Jason Schorn's, oxrock's, agf's, steveha's, and eryksun's solutions, though oxrock's is by far the closest.

Create a folder and sub folder in Excel VBA

Never tried with non Windows systems, but here's the one I have in my library, pretty easy to use. No special library reference required.

Function CreateFolder(ByVal sPath As String) As Boolean
'by Patrick Honorez - www.idevlop.com
'create full sPath at once, if required
'returns False if folder does not exist and could NOT be created, True otherwise
'sample usage: If CreateFolder("C:\toto\test\test") Then debug.print "OK"
'updated 20130422 to handle UNC paths correctly ("\\MyServer\MyShare\MyFolder")

    Dim fs As Object
    Dim FolderArray
    Dim Folder As String, i As Integer, sShare As String

    If Right(sPath, 1) = "\" Then sPath = Left(sPath, Len(sPath) - 1)
    Set fs = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
    'UNC path ? change 3 "\" into 3 "@"
    If sPath Like "\\*\*" Then
        sPath = Replace(sPath, "\", "@", 1, 3)
    End If
    'now split
    FolderArray = Split(sPath, "\")
    'then set back the @ into \ in item 0 of array
    FolderArray(0) = Replace(FolderArray(0), "@", "\", 1, 3)
    On Error GoTo hell
    'start from root to end, creating what needs to be
    For i = 0 To UBound(FolderArray) Step 1
        Folder = Folder & FolderArray(i) & "\"
        If Not fs.FolderExists(Folder) Then
            fs.CreateFolder (Folder)
        End If
    Next
    CreateFolder = True

Overriding the java equals() method - not working?

Right way to convert data.frame to a numeric matrix, when df also contains strings?

I manually filled NAs by exporting the CSV then editing it and reimporting, as below.

Perhaps one of you experts might explain why this procedure worked so well (the first file had columns with data of types char, INT and num (floating point numbers)), which all became char type after STEP 1; but at the end of STEP 3 R correctly recognized the datatype of each column).

# STEP 1:
MainOptionFile <- read.csv("XLUopt_XLUstk_v3.csv",
                            header=T, stringsAsFactors=FALSE)
#... STEP 2:
TestFrame <- subset(MainOptionFile, str_locate(option_symbol,"120616P00034000") > 0)
write.csv(TestFrame, file = "TestFrame2.csv")
# ...
# STEP 3:
# I made various amendments to `TestFrame2.csv`, including replacing all missing data cells with appropriate numbers. I then read that amended data frame back into R as follows:
XLU_34P_16Jun12 <- read.csv("TestFrame2_v2.csv",
                            header=T,stringsAsFactors=FALSE)

On arrival back in R, all columns had their correct measurement levels automatically recognized by R!

Can't Load URL: The domain of this URL isn't included in the app's domains

I had the same problem, and it came from a wrong client_id / Facebook App ID.

Did you switch your Facebook app to "public" or "online ? When you do so, Facebook creates a new app with a new App ID.

You can compare the "client_id" parameter value in the url with the one in your Facebook dashboard.

Also Make sure your app is public. Click on + Add product Now go to products => Facebook Login Now do the following:

In Java, how do I convert a byte array to a string of hex digits while keeping leading zeros?

This solution is a little older school, and should be memory efficient.

public static String toHexString(byte bytes[]) {
    if (bytes == null) {
        return null;
    }

    StringBuffer sb = new StringBuffer();
    for (int iter = 0; iter < bytes.length; iter++) {
        byte high = (byte) ( (bytes[iter] & 0xf0) >> 4);
        byte low =  (byte)   (bytes[iter] & 0x0f);
        sb.append(nibble2char(high));
        sb.append(nibble2char(low));
    }

    return sb.toString();
}

private static char nibble2char(byte b) {
    byte nibble = (byte) (b & 0x0f);
    if (nibble < 10) {
        return (char) ('0' + nibble);
    }
    return (char) ('a' + nibble - 10);
}

Classpath resource not found when running as jar

resource.getFile() expects the resource itself to be available on the file system, i.e. it can't be nested inside a jar file. This is why it works when you run your application in STS but doesn't work once you've built your application and run it from the executable jar. Rather than using getFile() to access the resource's contents, I'd recommend using getInputStream() instead. That'll allow you to read the resource's content regardless of where it's located.

Get nth character of a string in Swift programming language

Swift 5.1.3:

Add a String extension:

extension String {

 func stringAt(_ i: Int) -> String {
   return String(Array(self)[i])
 }

 func charAt(_ i: Int) -> Character {
  return Array(self)[i]
 }
}

let str = "Teja Kumar"
let str1: String = str.stringAt(2)  //"j"
let str2: Character = str.charAt(5)  //"k"

Is there a C# String.Format() equivalent in JavaScript?

I am using:

String.prototype.format = function() {
    var s = this,
        i = arguments.length;

    while (i--) {
        s = s.replace(new RegExp('\\{' + i + '\\}', 'gm'), arguments[i]);
    }
    return s;
};

usage: "Hello {0}".format("World");

I found it at Equivalent of String.format in JQuery

UPDATED:

In ES6/ES2015 you can use string templating for instance

'use strict';

let firstName = 'John',
    lastName = 'Smith';

console.log(`Full Name is ${firstName} ${lastName}`);
// or
console.log(`Full Name is ${firstName + ' ' + lastName}');

How to merge 2 List<T> and removing duplicate values from it in C#

    List<int> first_list = new List<int>() {
        1,

    };

    List<int> second_list = new List<int>() {

        9,
        1

    var result = first_list.Union(second_list);

bash: mkvirtualenv: command not found

I had the same issue on OS X 10.9.1 with python 2.7.5. No issues with WORKON_HOME for me, but I did have to manually add source "/usr/local/bin/virtualenvwrapper.sh" to ~/.bash_profile (or ~/.bashrc in unix) after I ran pip install virtualenvwrapper

Converting LastLogon to DateTime format

DateTime.FromFileTime should do the trick:

PS C:\> [datetime]::FromFileTime(129948127853609000)

Monday, October 15, 2012 3:13:05 PM

Then depending on how you want to format it, check out standard and custom datetime format strings.

PS C:\> [datetime]::FromFileTime(129948127853609000).ToString('d MMMM')
15 October
PS C:\> [datetime]::FromFileTime(129948127853609000).ToString('g')
10/15/2012 3:13 PM

If you want to integrate this into your one-liner, change your select statement to this:

... | Select Name, manager, @{N='LastLogon'; E={[DateTime]::FromFileTime($_.LastLogon)}} | ...

How to use a parameter in ExecStart command line?

Although systemd indeed does not provide way to pass command-line arguments for unit files, there are possibilities to write instances: http://0pointer.de/blog/projects/instances.html

For example: /lib/systemd/system/[email protected] looks something like this:

[Unit]
Description=Serial Getty on %I
BindTo=dev-%i.device
After=dev-%i.device systemd-user-sessions.service

[Service]
ExecStart=-/sbin/agetty -s %I 115200,38400,9600
Restart=always
RestartSec=0

So, you may start it like:

$ systemctl start [email protected]
$ systemctl start [email protected]

For systemd it will different instances:

$ systemctl status [email protected]
[email protected] - Getty on ttyUSB0
      Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/[email protected]; static)
      Active: active (running) since Mon, 26 Sep 2011 04:20:44 +0200; 2s ago
    Main PID: 5443 (agetty)
      CGroup: name=systemd:/system/[email protected]/ttyUSB0
          + 5443 /sbin/agetty -s ttyUSB0 115200,38400,9600

It also mean great possibility enable and disable it separately.

Off course it lack much power of command line parsing, but in common way it is used as some sort of config files selection. For example you may look at Fedora [email protected]: http://pkgs.fedoraproject.org/cgit/openvpn.git/tree/[email protected]

Update MongoDB field using value of another field

Regarding this answer, the snapshot function is deprecated in version 3.6, according to this update. So, on version 3.6 and above, it is possible to perform the operation this way:

db.person.find().forEach(
    function (elem) {
        db.person.update(
            {
                _id: elem._id
            },
            {
                $set: {
                    name: elem.firstname + ' ' + elem.lastname
                }
            }
        );
    }
);

How to create a responsive image that also scales up in Bootstrap 3

Sure things!

.img-responsive is the right way to make images responsive with bootstrap 3 You can add some height rule for the picture you want to make responsive, because with responsibility, width changes along the height, fix it and there you are.

How to replace innerHTML of a div using jQuery?

Exiting out of a FOR loop in a batch file?

you do not need a seperate batch file to exit a loop using exit /b if you are using call instead of goto like

call :loop

echo loop finished

goto :eof

:loop
FOR /L %%I IN (1,1,10) DO (
    echo %%I
    IF %%I==5 exit /b
)

in this case, the "exit /b" will exit the 'call' and continue from the line after 'call' So the output is this:

1
2
3
4
5
loop finished

How to set text size in a button in html

Github: Can I see the number of downloads for a repo?

The Github API does not provide the needed information anymore. Take a look at the releases page, mentioned in Stan Towianski's answer. As we discussed in the comments to that answer, the Github API only reports the downloads of 1 of the three files he offers per release.

I have checked the solutions, provided in some other answers to this questions. Vonc's answer presents the essential part of Michele Milidoni's solution. I installed his gdc script with the following result

# ./gdc stant
mdcsvimporter.mxt: 37 downloads
mdcsvimporter.mxt: 80 downloads
How-to-use-mdcsvimporter-beta-16.zip: 12 downloads

As you can clearly see, gdc does not report the download count of the tar.gz and zip files.

If you want to check without installing anything, try the web page where Somsubhra has installed the solution, mentioned in his answer. Fill in 'stant' as Github username and 'mdcsvimporter2015' as Repository name and you will see things like:

Download Info:
mdcsvimporter.mxt(0.20MB) - Downloaded 37 times.
Last updated on 2015-03-26

Alas, once again only a report without the downloads of the tar.gz and zip files. I have carefully examined the information that Github's API returns, but it is not provided anywhere. The download_count that the API does return is far from complete nowadays.

How to declare Global Variables in Excel VBA to be visible across the Workbook

Your question is: are these not modules capable of declaring variables at global scope?

Answer: YES, they are "capable"

The only point is that references to global variables in ThisWorkbook or a Sheet module have to be fully qualified (i.e., referred to as ThisWorkbook.Global1, e.g.) References to global variables in a standard module have to be fully qualified only in case of ambiguity (e.g., if there is more than one standard module defining a variable with name Global1, and you mean to use it in a third module).

For instance, place in Sheet1 code

Public glob_sh1 As String

Sub test_sh1()
    Debug.Print (glob_mod)
    Debug.Print (ThisWorkbook.glob_this)
    Debug.Print (Sheet1.glob_sh1)
End Sub

place in ThisWorkbook code

Public glob_this As String

Sub test_this()
    Debug.Print (glob_mod)
    Debug.Print (ThisWorkbook.glob_this)
    Debug.Print (Sheet1.glob_sh1)
End Sub

and in a Standard Module code

Public glob_mod As String

Sub test_mod()
    glob_mod = "glob_mod"
    ThisWorkbook.glob_this = "glob_this"
    Sheet1.glob_sh1 = "glob_sh1"
    Debug.Print (glob_mod)
    Debug.Print (ThisWorkbook.glob_this)
    Debug.Print (Sheet1.glob_sh1)
End Sub

All three subs work fine.

PS1: This answer is based essentially on info from here. It is much worth reading (from the great Chip Pearson).

PS2: Your line Debug.Print ("Hello") will give you the compile error Invalid outside procedure.

PS3: You could (partly) check your code with Debug -> Compile VBAProject in the VB editor. All compile errors will pop.

PS4: Check also Put Excel-VBA code in module or sheet?.

PS5: You might be not able to declare a global variable in, say, Sheet1, and use it in code from other workbook (reading http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/gg264241%28v=office.15%29.aspx#sectionSection0; I did not test this point, so this issue is yet to be confirmed as such). But you do not mean to do that in your example, anyway.

PS6: There are several cases that lead to ambiguity in case of not fully qualifying global variables. You may tinker a little to find them. They are compile errors.

ValidateRequest="false" doesn't work in Asp.Net 4

I know this is an old question, but if you encounter this problem in MVC 3 then you can decorate your ActionMethod with [ValidateInput(false)] and just switch off request validation for a single ActionMethod, which is handy. And you don't need to make any changes to the web.config file, so you can still use the .NET 4 request validation everywhere else.

e.g.

[ValidateInput(false)]
public ActionMethod Edit(int id, string value)
{
    // Do your own checking of value since it could contain XSS stuff!
    return View();
}

Does Python have an ordered set?

In case you're already using pandas in your code, its Index object behaves pretty like an ordered set, as shown in this article.

Examples from the article:

indA = pd.Index([1, 3, 5, 7, 9])
indB = pd.Index([2, 3, 5, 7, 11])

indA & indB  # intersection
indA | indB  # union
indA - indB  # difference
indA ^ indB # symmetric difference

How to set some xlim and ylim in Seaborn lmplot facetgrid

You need to get hold of the axes themselves. Probably the cleanest way is to change your last row:

lm = sns.lmplot('X','Y',df,col='Z',sharex=False,sharey=False)

Then you can get hold of the axes objects (an array of axes):

axes = lm.axes

After that you can tweak the axes properties

axes[0,0].set_ylim(0,)
axes[0,1].set_ylim(0,)

creates:

Spring - applicationContext.xml cannot be opened because it does not exist

In Spring all source files are inside src/main/java. Similarly, the resources are generally kept inside src/main/resources. So keep your spring configuration file inside resources folder.

Make sure you have the ClassPath entry for your files inside src/main/resources as well.

In .classpath check for the following 2 lines. If they are missing add them.

<classpathentry path="src/main/java" kind="src"/>
<classpathentry path="src/main/resources" kind="src" />

So, if you have everything in place the below code should work.

ApplicationContext ctx = new ClassPathXmlApplicationContext("Spring-Module.xml");

python: creating list from string

If you need to convert some of them to numbers and don't know in advance which ones, some additional code will be needed. Try something like this:

b = []
for x in a:
    temp = []
    items = x.split(",")
    for item in items:
        try:
            n = int(item)
        except ValueError:
            temp.append(item)
        else:
            temp.append(n)
    b.append(temp)

This is longer than the other answers, but it's more versatile.

What is a good regular expression to match a URL?

These are the droids you're looking for. This is taken from validator.js which is the library you should really use to do this. But if you want to roll your own, who am I to stop you? If you want pure regex then you can just take out the length check. I think it's a good idea to test the length of the URL though if you really want to determine compliance with the spec.

 function isURL(str) {
     var urlRegex = '^(?!mailto:)(?:(?:http|https|ftp)://)(?:\\S+(?::\\S*)?@)?(?:(?:(?:[1-9]\\d?|1\\d\\d|2[01]\\d|22[0-3])(?:\\.(?:1?\\d{1,2}|2[0-4]\\d|25[0-5])){2}(?:\\.(?:[0-9]\\d?|1\\d\\d|2[0-4]\\d|25[0-4]))|(?:(?:[a-z\\u00a1-\\uffff0-9]+-?)*[a-z\\u00a1-\\uffff0-9]+)(?:\\.(?:[a-z\\u00a1-\\uffff0-9]+-?)*[a-z\\u00a1-\\uffff0-9]+)*(?:\\.(?:[a-z\\u00a1-\\uffff]{2,})))|localhost)(?::\\d{2,5})?(?:(/|\\?|#)[^\\s]*)?$';
     var url = new RegExp(urlRegex, 'i');
     return str.length < 2083 && url.test(str);

Convert array values from string to int?

Another technique is to type-hint (coerce) the incoming values to int type after exploding the string.

Note that these techniques will work as demonstrated in my demo link unless you have set php to use strict typing.

The following techniques should not be used to sanitize non-numeric strings; it assumes that all values will be numeric.

If float values are passed into these techniques, they will be truncated/floored to integers.

Code: (Demo)

$string = "1,2,3";
$array = explode(',', $string);
var_dump($array);

echo "\n---\n";
array_walk($array, function(int &$int){;});
var_dump($array);

echo "\n---\n";
var_dump(
    array_map(function(int $i){ return $i; }, explode(',', $string))
);

echo "\n---\n";
var_dump(
    array_map(fn(int $i) => $i, explode(',', $string)) // PHP 7.4 arrow function syntax
);

Output:

how to modify an existing check constraint?

You have to drop it and recreate it, but you don't have to incur the cost of revalidating the data if you don't want to.

alter table t drop constraint ck ;
alter table t add constraint ck check (n < 0) enable novalidate;

The enable novalidate clause will force inserts or updates to have the constraint enforced, but won't force a full table scan against the table to verify all rows comply.

Uploading files to file server using webclient class

Just use

File.Copy(filepath, "\\\\192.168.1.28\\Files");

A windows fileshare exposed via a UNC path is treated as part of the file system, and has nothing to do with the web.

The credentials used will be that of the ASP.NET worker process, or any impersonation you've enabled. If you can tweak those to get it right, this can be done.

You may run into problems because you are using the IP address instead of the server name (windows trust settings prevent leaving the domain - by using IP you are hiding any domain details). If at all possible, use the server name!

If this is not on the same windows domain, and you are trying to use a different domain account, you will need to specify the username as "[domain_or_machine]\[username]"

If you need to specify explicit credentials, you'll need to look into coding an impersonation solution.

The program can’t start because MSVCR71.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this program

  • Create a new STRING VALUE called PATH and set it value to the sqldeveloper pathway + \jdk\jre\bin

ExecuteReader requires an open and available Connection. The connection's current state is Connecting

Sorry for only commenting in the first place, but i'm posting almost every day a similar comment since many people think that it would be smart to encapsulate ADO.NET functionality into a DB-Class(me too 10 years ago). Mostly they decide to use static/shared objects since it seems to be faster than to create a new object for any action.

That is neither a good idea in terms of peformance nor in terms of fail-safety.

Don't poach on the Connection-Pool's territory

There's a good reason why ADO.NET internally manages the underlying Connections to the DBMS in the ADO-NET Connection-Pool:

In practice, most applications use only one or a few different configurations for connections. This means that during application execution, many identical connections will be repeatedly opened and closed. To minimize the cost of opening connections, ADO.NET uses an optimization technique called connection pooling.

Connection pooling reduces the number of times that new connections must be opened. The pooler maintains ownership of the physical connection. It manages connections by keeping alive a set of active connections for each given connection configuration. Whenever a user calls Open on a connection, the pooler looks for an available connection in the pool. If a pooled connection is available, it returns it to the caller instead of opening a new connection. When the application calls Close on the connection, the pooler returns it to the pooled set of active connections instead of closing it. Once the connection is returned to the pool, it is ready to be reused on the next Open call.

So obviously there's no reason to avoid creating,opening or closing connections since actually they aren't created,opened and closed at all. This is "only" a flag for the connection pool to know when a connection can be reused or not. But it's a very important flag, because if a connection is "in use"(the connection pool assumes), a new physical connection must be openend to the DBMS what is very expensive.

So you're gaining no performance improvement but the opposite. If the maximum pool size specified (100 is the default) is reached, you would even get exceptions(too many open connections ...). So this will not only impact the performance tremendously but also be a source for nasty errors and (without using Transactions) a data-dumping-area.

If you're even using static connections you're creating a lock for every thread trying to access this object. ASP.NET is a multithreading environment by nature. So theres a great chance for these locks which causes performance issues at best. Actually sooner or later you'll get many different exceptions(like your ExecuteReader requires an open and available Connection).

Conclusion:

  • Don't reuse connections or any ADO.NET objects at all.
  • Don't make them static/shared(in VB.NET)
  • Always create, open(in case of Connections), use, close and dispose them where you need them(f.e. in a method)
  • use the using-statement to dispose and close(in case of Connections) implicitely

That's true not only for Connections(although most noticable). Every object implementing IDisposable should be disposed(simplest by using-statement), all the more in the System.Data.SqlClient namespace.

All the above speaks against a custom DB-Class which encapsulates and reuse all objects. That's the reason why i commented to trash it. That's only a problem source.

Edit: Here's a possible implementation of your retrievePromotion-method:

public Promotion retrievePromotion(int promotionID)
{
    Promotion promo = null;
    var connectionString = System.Configuration.ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["MainConnStr"].ConnectionString;
    using (SqlConnection connection = new SqlConnection(connectionString))
    {
        var queryString = "SELECT PromotionID, PromotionTitle, PromotionURL FROM Promotion WHERE PromotionID=@PromotionID";
        using (var da = new SqlDataAdapter(queryString, connection))
        {
            // you could also use a SqlDataReader instead
            // note that a DataTable does not need to be disposed since it does not implement IDisposable
            var tblPromotion = new DataTable();
            // avoid SQL-Injection
            da.SelectCommand.Parameters.Add("@PromotionID", SqlDbType.Int);
            da.SelectCommand.Parameters["@PromotionID"].Value = promotionID;
            try
            {
                connection.Open(); // not necessarily needed in this case because DataAdapter.Fill does it otherwise
                da.Fill(tblPromotion);
                if (tblPromotion.Rows.Count != 0)
                {
                    var promoRow = tblPromotion.Rows[0];
                    promo = new Promotion()
                    {
                        promotionID    = promotionID,
                        promotionTitle = promoRow.Field<String>("PromotionTitle"),
                        promotionUrl   = promoRow.Field<String>("PromotionURL")
                    };
                }
            }
            catch (Exception ex)
            {
                // log this exception or throw it up the StackTrace
                // we do not need a finally-block to close the connection since it will be closed implicitely in an using-statement
                throw;
            }
        }
    }
    return promo;
}

How can I write maven build to add resources to classpath?

A cleaner alternative of putting your config file into a subfolder of src/main/resources would be to enhance your classpath locations. This is extremely easy to do with Maven.

For instance, place your property file in a new folder src/main/config, and add the following to your pom:

 <build>
    <resources>
        <resource>
            <directory>src/main/config</directory>
        </resource>
    </resources>
 </build>

From now, every files files under src/main/config is considered as part of your classpath (note that you can exclude some of them from the final jar if needed: just add in the build section:

    <plugins>
        <plugin>
            <groupId>org.apache.maven.plugins</groupId>
            <artifactId>maven-jar-plugin</artifactId>
            <configuration>
                <excludes>
                    <exclude>my-config.properties</exclude>
                </excludes>
            </configuration>
        </plugin>
    </plugins>

so that my-config.properties can be found in your classpath when you run your app from your IDE, but will remain external from your jar in your final distribution).

Unable to start Genymotion Virtual Device - Virtualbox Host Only Ethernet Adapter Failed to start

I had the same issue and figured it out today. I had to release the existing virtual drives before Genymotion would allow me to create a NEW virtual drive. Once you click create new drive, it prompts you to login to your Genymotion cloud account. Now I am actually able to run it. Hope this helps.

Edit* Also tried reinstalling AND repairing Virtualbox multiple times and still got same error. Only until I released the existing virtual drives did it start working.

how to prevent css inherit

If the inner object is inheriting properties you don't want, you can always set them to what you do want (ie - the properties are cascading, and so you can overwrite them at the lower level).

e.g.

.li-a {
    font-weight: bold;
    color: red;
}

.li-b {
    color: blue;
}

In this case, "li-b" will still be bold even though you don't want it to be. To make it not bold you can do:

.li-b {
    font-weight: normal;
    color: blue;
}

Python Database connection Close

According to pyodbc documentation, connections to the SQL server are not closed by default. Some database drivers do not close connections when close() is called in order to save round-trips to the server.

To close your connection when you call close() you should set pooling to False:

import pyodbc

pyodbc.pooling = False

Python conversion between coordinates

Using numpy, you can define the following:

import numpy as np

def cart2pol(x, y):
    rho = np.sqrt(x**2 + y**2)
    phi = np.arctan2(y, x)
    return(rho, phi)

def pol2cart(rho, phi):
    x = rho * np.cos(phi)
    y = rho * np.sin(phi)
    return(x, y)

Primary key or Unique index?

I almost never create a table without a numeric primary key. If there is also a natural key that should be unique, I also put a unique index on it. Joins are faster on integers than multicolumn natural keys, data only needs to change in one place (natural keys tend to need to be updated which is a bad thing when it is in primary key - foreign key relationships). If you are going to need replication use a GUID instead of an integer, but for the most part I prefer a key that is user readable especially if they need to see it to distinguish between John Smith and John Smith.

The few times I don't create a surrogate key are when I have a joining table that is involved in a many-to-many relationship. In this case I declare both fields as the primary key.

To make semicolon rules simple

Every line that begins with a (, [, `, or any operator (/, +, - are the only valid ones), must begin with a semicolon.

func()
;[0].concat(myarr).forEach(func)
;(myarr).forEach(func)
;`hello`.forEach(func)
;/hello/.exec(str)
;+0
;-0

This prevents a

func()[0].concat(myarr).forEach(func)(myarr).forEach(func)`hello`.forEach(func)/hello/.forEach(func)+0-0

monstrocity.

Additional Note

To mention what will happen: brackets will index, parentheses will be treated as function parameters. The backtick would transform into a tagged template, and regex or explicitly signed integers will turn into operators. Of course, you can just add a semicolon to the end of every line. It's good to keep mind though when you're quickly prototyping and are dropping your semicolons.

Also, adding semicolons to the end of every line won't help you with the following, so keep in mind statements like

return // Will automatically insert semicolon, and return undefined.
    (1+2);
i // Adds a semicolon
   ++ // But, if you really intended i++ here, your codebase needs help.

The above case will happen to return/continue/break/++/--. Any linter will catch this with dead-code or ++/-- syntax error (++/-- will never realistically happen).

Finally, if you want file concatenation to work, make sure each file ends with a semicolon. If you're using a bundler program (recommended), it should do this automatically.

Can I set state inside a useEffect hook

For future purposes, this may help too:

It's ok to use setState in useEffect you just need to have attention as described already to not create a loop.

But it's not the only problem that may occur. See below:

Imagine that you have a component Comp that receives props from parent and according to a props change you want to set Comp's state. For some reason, you need to change for each prop in a different useEffect:

DO NOT DO THIS

useEffect(() => {
  setState({ ...state, a: props.a });
}, [props.a]);

useEffect(() => {
  setState({ ...state, b: props.b });
}, [props.b]);

It may never change the state of a as you can see in this example: https://codesandbox.io/s/confident-lederberg-dtx7w

The reason why this happen in this example it's because both useEffects run in the same react cycle when you change both prop.a and prop.b so the value of {...state} when you do setState are exactly the same in both useEffect because they are in the same context. When you run the second setState it will replace the first setState.

DO THIS INSTEAD

The solution for this problem is basically call setState like this:

useEffect(() => {
  setState(state => ({ ...state, a: props.a }));
}, [props.a]);

useEffect(() => {
  setState(state => ({ ...state, b: props.b }));
}, [props.b]);

Check the solution here: https://codesandbox.io/s/mutable-surf-nynlx

Now, you always receive the most updated and correct value of the state when you proceed with the setState.

I hope this helps someone!

What is the preferred Bash shebang?

/bin/sh is usually a link to the system's default shell, which is often bash but on, e.g., Debian systems is the lighter weight dash. Either way, the original Bourne shell is sh, so if your script uses some bash (2nd generation, "Bourne Again sh") specific features ([[ ]] tests, arrays, various sugary things, etc.), then you should be more specific and use the later. This way, on systems where bash is not installed, your script won't run. I understand there may be an exciting trilogy of films about this evolution...but that could be hearsay.

Also note that when evoked as sh, bash to some extent behaves as POSIX standard sh (see also the GNU docs about this).

...will attach the specified callback to each <a> contained in a <div>.

If the height of your element is changing due to items being appended to it using .append() you shouldn't need to detect the change in height. Simply add the reposition of your second element in the same function where you are appending the new content to your first element.

As in:

Working Example

$('.class1').click(function () {
    $('.class1').append("<div class='newClass'><h1>This is some content</h1></div>");
    $('.class2').css('top', $('.class1').offset().top + $('.class1').outerHeight());
});

Get DateTime.Now with milliseconds precision

As far as I understand the question, you can go for:

DateTime dateTime = DateTime.Now;
DateTime dateTimeInMilliseconds = dateTime.AddTicks(-1 * dateTime.Ticks % 10000);

This will cut off ticks smaller than 1 millisecond.

In Java, what purpose do the keywords `final`, `finally` and `finalize` fulfil?

http://allu.wordpress.com/2006/11/08/difference-between-final-finally-and-finalize/

final – constant declaration.

finally – The finally block always executes when the try block exits, except System.exit(0) call. This ensures that the finally block is executed even if an unexpected exception occurs. But finally is useful for more than just exception handling — it allows the programmer to avoid having cleanup code accidentally bypassed by a return, continue, or break. Putting cleanup code in a finally block is always a good practice, even when no exceptions are anticipated.

finalize() – method helps in garbage collection. A method that is invoked before an object is discarded by the garbage collector, allowing it to clean up its state. Should not be used to release non-memory resources like file handles, sockets, database connections etc because Java has only a finite number of these resources and you do not know when the garbage collection is going to kick in to release these non-memory resources through the finalize() method.

Did you try searching on google, and need clarification for an explanation?

How can I comment a single line in XML?

No, there is no way to comment a line in XML and have the comment end automatically on a linebreak.

XML has only one definition for a comment:

'<!--' ((Char - '-') | ('-' (Char - '-')))* '-->'

XML forbids -- in comments to maintain compatibility with SGML.

downcast and upcast

  • Upcasting is an operation that creates a base class reference from a subclass reference. (subclass -> superclass) (i.e. Manager -> Employee)
  • Downcasting is an operation that creates a subclass reference from a base class reference. (superclass -> subclass) (i.e. Employee -> Manager)

In your case

Employee emp = (Employee)mgr; //mgr is Manager

you are doing an upcasting.

An upcast always succeeds unlike a downcast that requires an explicit cast because it can potentially fail at runtime.(InvalidCastException).

C# offers two operators to avoid this exception to be thrown:

Starting from:

Employee e = new Employee();

First:

Manager m = e as Manager; // if downcast fails m is null; no exception thrown

Second:

if (e is Manager){...} // the predicate is false if the downcast is not possible

Warning: When you do an upcast you can only access to the superclass' methods, properties etc...

Multiple maven repositories in one gradle file

In short you have to do like this

repositories {
  maven { url "http://maven.springframework.org/release" }
  maven { url "https://maven.fabric.io/public" }
}

Detail:

You need to specify each maven URL in its own curly braces. Here is what I got working with skeleton dependencies for the web services project I’m going to build up:

apply plugin: 'java'

sourceCompatibility = 1.7
version = '1.0'

repositories {
  maven { url "http://maven.springframework.org/release" }
  maven { url "http://maven.restlet.org" }
  mavenCentral()
}

dependencies {
  compile group:'org.restlet.jee', name:'org.restlet', version:'2.1.1'
  compile group:'org.restlet.jee', name:'org.restlet.ext.servlet',version.1.1'
  compile group:'org.springframework', name:'spring-web', version:'3.2.1.RELEASE'
  compile group:'org.slf4j', name:'slf4j-api', version:'1.7.2'
  compile group:'ch.qos.logback', name:'logback-core', version:'1.0.9'
  testCompile group:'junit', name:'junit', version:'4.11'

Making view resize to its parent when added with addSubview

Just copy the parent view's frame to the child-view then add it. After that autoresizing will work. Actually you should only copy the size CGRectMake(0, 0, parentView.frame.size.width, parentView.frame.size.height)

childView.frame = CGRectMake(0, 0, parentView.frame.size.width, parentView.frame.size.height);
[parentView addSubview:childView];

What is the difference between Amazon SNS and Amazon SQS?

AWS SNS is a publisher subscriber network, where subscribers can subscribe to topics and will receive messages whenever a publisher publishes to that topic.

AWS SQS is a queue service, which stores messages in a queue. SQS cannot deliver any messages, where an external service (lambda, EC2, etc.) is needed to poll SQS and grab messages from SQS.

SNS and SQS can be used together for multiple reasons.

  1. There may be different kinds of subscribers where some need the immediate delivery of messages, where some would require the message to persist, for later usage via polling. See this link.

  2. The "Fanout Pattern." This is for the asynchronous processing of messages. When a message is published to SNS, it can distribute it to multiple SQS queues in parallel. This can be great when loading thumbnails in an application in parallel, when images are being published. See this link.

  3. Persistent storage. When a service that is going to process a message is not reliable. In a case like this, if SNS pushes a notification to a Service, and that service is unavailable, then the notification will be lost. Therefore we can use SQS as a persistent storage and then process it afterwards.

Difference between two numpy arrays in python

You can also use numpy.subtract

It has the advantage over the difference operator, -, that you do not have to transform the sequences (list or tuples) into a numpy arrays — you save the two commands:

array1 = np.array([1.1, 2.2, 3.3])
array2 = np.array([1, 2, 3])

Example: (Python 3.5)

import numpy as np
result = np.subtract([1.1, 2.2, 3.3], [1, 2, 3])
print ('the difference =', result)

which gives you

the difference = [ 0.1  0.2  0.3]

Remember, however, that if you try to subtract sequences (lists or tuples) with the - operator you will get an error. In this case, you need the above commands to transform the sequences in numpy arrays

Wrong Code:

print([1.1, 2.2, 3.3] - [1, 2, 3])

I just finished a rewrite with useReducer, following @kentcdobs article (ref below) which really gave me a solid result that suffers not one bit from these closure problems.

see: https://kentcdodds.com/blog/how-to-use-react-context-effectively

I condensed his readable boilerplate to my preferred level of DRYness -- reading his sandbox implementation will show you how it actually works.

Enjoy, I know I am !!

import React from 'react'

// ref: https://kentcdodds.com/blog/how-to-use-react-context-effectively

const ApplicationDispatch = React.createContext()
const ApplicationContext = React.createContext()

function stateReducer(state, action) {
  if (state.hasOwnProperty(action.type)) {
    return { ...state, [action.type]: state[action.type] = action.newValue };
  }
  throw new Error(`Unhandled action type: ${action.type}`);
}

const initialState = {
  keyCode: '',
  testCode: '',
  testMode: false,
  phoneNumber: '',
  resultCode: null,
  mobileInfo: '',
  configName: '',
  appConfig: {},
};

function DispatchProvider({ children }) {
  const [state, dispatch] = React.useReducer(stateReducer, initialState);
  return (
    <ApplicationDispatch.Provider value={dispatch}>
      <ApplicationContext.Provider value={state}>
        {children}
      </ApplicationContext.Provider>
    </ApplicationDispatch.Provider>
  )
}

function useDispatchable(stateName) {

function useAppConfig() { return useDispatchable('appConfig'); }

export {
  DispatchProvider,
  useKeyCode,
  useTestCode,
  useTestMode,
  usePhoneNumber,
  useResultCode,
  useMobileInfo,

}

with a usage similar to this:

// https://react-bootstrap.github.io/components/alerts
import { Container, Row } from 'react-bootstrap';

import { useAppConfig, useKeyCode, usePhoneNumber } from '../../ApplicationDispatchProvider';

import { MaskedEntry } from '../../components/masked-entry';
import { Messaging } from '../../components/messaging';
import { SimpleKeypad, HandleKeyPress, ALT_ID } from '../../components/simple-keypad';

export const AltIdPage = () => {
  const history = useHistory();
  const [keyCode, setKeyCode] = useKeyCode();
  const [phoneNumber, setPhoneNumber] = usePhoneNumber();
  const [appConfig, setAppConfig] = useAppConfig();

  const keyPressed = btn => {
    const maxLen = appConfig.phoneNumberEntry.entryLen;
    const newValue = HandleKeyPress(btn, phoneNumber).slice(0, maxLen);
    setPhoneNumber(newValue);
  }

  const doSubmit = () => {
    history.push('s');
  }

  const disableBtns = phoneNumber.length < appConfig.phoneNumberEntry.entryLen;

  return (
    <Container fluid className="text-center">
      <Row>
        <Messaging {...{ msgColors: appConfig.pageColors, msgLines: appConfig.entryMsgs.altIdMsgs }} />
      </Row>
      <Row>
        <MaskedEntry {...{ ...appConfig.phoneNumberEntry, entryColors: appConfig.pageColors, entryLine: phoneNumber }} />
      </Row>
      <Row>
        <SimpleKeypad {...{ keyboardName: ALT_ID, themeName: appConfig.keyTheme, keyPressed, styleClass: keypadClass }} />
      </Row>
      <Row>
        <ControlSet {...{ btnColors: appConfig.buttonColors, disabled: disableBtns, btns: [{ text: 'Submit', click: doSubmit }] }} />
      </Row>
    </Container>
  );
};

AltIdPage.propTypes = {};

Now everything persists smoothly everywhere across all my pages

Nice!

Thanks Kent!

Escaping a forward slash in a regular expression

For java, you don't need to.

eg: "^(.*)/\\*LOG:(\\d+)\\*/(.*)$" ==> ^(.*)/\*LOG:(\d+)\*/(.*)$

If you put \ in front of /. IDE will tell you "Redundant Character Escape "\/" in ReGex"

What is the correct target for the JAVA_HOME environment variable for a Linux OpenJDK Debian-based distribution?

If you use alternatives to manage multiple java versions, you can set the JAVA_HOME based on the symlinked java (or javac) like this:

export JAVA_HOME=$(readlink -f /usr/bin/java | sed "s:bin/java::")

angularjs directive call function specified in attribute and pass an argument to it

Just to add some info to the other answers - using & is a good way if you need an isolated scope.

The main downside of marko's solution is that it forces you to create an isolated scope on an element, but you can only have one of those on an element (otherwise you'll run into an angular error: Multiple directives [directive1, directive2] asking for isolated scope)

This means you :

  • can't use it on an element hat has an isolated scope itself
  • can't use two directives with this solution on the same element

Since the original question uses a directive with restrict:'A' both situations might arise quite often in bigger applications, and using an isolated scope here is not a good practice and also unnecessary. In fact rekna had a good intuition in this case, and almost had it working, the only thing he was doing wrong was calling the $parsed function wrong (see what it returns here: https://docs.angularjs.org/api/ng/service/$parse ).

TL;DR; Fixed question code

<div my-method='theMethodToBeCalled(id)'></div>

and the code

app.directive("myMethod",function($parse) {
  restrict:'A',
  link:function(scope,element,attrs) {
     // here you can parse any attribute (so this could as well be,
     // myDirectiveCallback or multiple ones if you need them )
     var expressionHandler = $parse(attrs.myMethod);
     $(element).on('theEvent',function( e, rowid ) {
        calculatedId = // some function called to determine id based on rowid

        // HERE: call the parsed function correctly (with scope AND params object)
        expressionHandler(scope, {id:calculatedId});
     }
  }
}

app.controller("myController",function($scope) {
   $scope.theMethodToBeCalled = function(id) { alert(id); };
}

Getting 400 bad request error in Jquery Ajax POST

You need to build query from "data" object using the following function

function buildQuery(obj) {
        var Result= '';
        if(typeof(obj)== 'object') {
            jQuery.each(obj, function(key, value) {
                Result+= (Result) ? '&' : '';
                if(typeof(value)== 'object' && value.length) {
                    for(var i=0; i<value.length; i++) {
                        Result+= [key+'[]', encodeURIComponent(value[i])].join('=');
                    }
                } else {
                    Result+= [key, encodeURIComponent(value)].join('=');
                }
            });
        }
        return Result;
    }

and then proceed with

var data= {
"subject:title":"Test Name",
"subject:description":"Creating test subject to check POST method API",
"sub:tags": ["facebook:work, facebook:likes"],
"sampleSize" : 10,
"values": ["science", "machine-learning"]
}

$.ajax({
  type: 'POST',
  url: "http://localhost:8080/project/server/rest/subjects",
  data: buildQuery(data),
  error: function(e) {
    console.log(e);
  }
});

update listview dynamically with adapter

I created a method just for that. I use it any time I need to manually update a ListView. Hopefully this gives you an idea of how to implement your own

public static void UpdateListView(List<SomeObject> SomeObjects, ListView ListVw)
{
    if(ListVw != null)
    {
        final YourAdapter adapter = (YourAdapter) ListVw.getAdapter();

        //You'll have to create this method in your adapter class. It's a simple setter.
        adapter.SetList(SomeObjects);

        adapter.notifyDataSetChanged();
    }
}

I'm using an adapter that inherites from BaseAdapter. Should work for any other type of adapter.

Increase distance between text and title on the y-axis

Based on this forum post: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/ggplot2/mK9DR3dKIBU

Sounds like the easiest thing to do is to add a line break (\n) before your x axis, and after your y axis labels. Seems a lot easier (although dumber) than the solutions posted above.

ggplot(mpg, aes(cty, hwy)) +
    geom_point() +
    xlab("\nYour_x_Label") + ylab("Your_y_Label\n")

Hope that helps!

The problem in this case is that onchange-event does not fire until the input looses focus, so you will probably want to listen for the keyup-event instead, which is fired on every keystroke.

Also, I would prefer not using inline-javascript, but rather catch the event using jQuery instead.

104, 'Connection reset by peer' socket error, or When does closing a socket result in a RST rather than FIN?

Don't use wsgiref for production. Use Apache and mod_wsgi, or something else.

We continue to see these connection resets, sometimes frequently, with wsgiref (the backend used by the werkzeug test server, and possibly others like the Django test server). Our solution was to log the error, retry the call in a loop, and give up after ten failures. httplib2 tries twice, but we needed a few more. They seem to come in bunches as well - adding a 1 second sleep might clear the issue.

We've never seen a connection reset when running through Apache and mod_wsgi. I don't know what they do differently, (maybe they just mask them), but they don't appear.

When we asked the local dev community for help, someone confirmed that they see a lot of connection resets with wsgiref that go away on the production server. There's a bug there, but it is going to be hard to find it.

What is the preferred/idiomatic way to insert into a map?

The first version:

function[0] = 42; // version 1

may or may not insert the value 42 into the map. If the key 0 exists, then it will assign 42 to that key, overwriting whatever value that key had. Otherwise it inserts the key/value pair.

The insert functions:

function.insert(std::map<int, int>::value_type(0, 42));  // version 2
function.insert(std::pair<int, int>(0, 42));             // version 3
function.insert(std::make_pair(0, 42));                  // version 4

on the other hand, don't do anything if the key 0 already exists in the map. If the key doesn't exist, it inserts the key/value pair.

The three insert functions are almost identical. std::map<int, int>::value_type is the typedef for std::pair<const int, int>, and std::make_pair() obviously produces a std::pair<> via template deduction magic. The end result, however, should be the same for versions 2, 3, and 4.

Which one would I use? I personally prefer version 1; it's concise and "natural". Of course, if its overwriting behavior is not desired, then I would prefer version 4, since it requires less typing than versions 2 and 3. I don't know if there is a single de facto way of inserting key/value pairs into a std::map.

Another way to insert values into a map via one of its constructors:

std::map<int, int> quadratic_func;

quadratic_func[0] = 0;
quadratic_func[1] = 1;
quadratic_func[2] = 4;
quadratic_func[3] = 9;

std::map<int, int> my_func(quadratic_func.begin(), quadratic_func.end());
