Programs & Examples On #Jtextarea

A JTextArea is a multi-line area that displays plain text.

Java - checking if parseInt throws exception

parseInt will throw NumberFormatException if it cannot parse the integer. So doing this will answer your question

try{
Integer.parseInt(....)
}catch(NumberFormatException e){
//couldn't parse
}

Java :Add scroll into text area

My naive assumption was that the size of scroll pane will be determined automatically...

The only solution that actually worked for me was explicitly seeting bounds of JScrollPane:

import javax.swing.*;

public class MyFrame extends JFrame {

    public MyFrame()
    {
        setBounds(100, 100, 491, 310);
        getContentPane().setLayout(null);

        JTextArea textField = new JTextArea();
        textField.setEditable(false);

        String str = "";
        for (int i = 0; i < 50; ++i)
            str += "Some text\n";
        textField.setText(str);

        JScrollPane scroll = new JScrollPane(textField);
        scroll.setBounds(10, 11, 455, 249);                     // <-- THIS

        getContentPane().add(scroll);
        setLocationRelativeTo ( null );
    }
}

Maybe it will help some future visitors :)

Add a new line to the end of a JtextArea

When you want to create a new line or wrap in your TextArea you have to add \n (newline) after the text.

TextArea t = new TextArea();
t.setText("insert text when you want a new line add \nThen more text....);
setBounds();
setFont();
add(t);

This is the only way I was able to do it, maybe there is a simpler way but I havent discovered that yet.

Angular 6 Material mat-select change method removed

If you're using Reactive forms you can listen for changes to the select control like so..

this.form.get('mySelectControl').valueChanges.subscribe(value => { ... do stuff ... })

In Swift how to call method with parameters on GCD main thread?

The proper way to do this is to use dispatch_async in the main_queue, as I did in the following code

dispatch_async(dispatch_get_main_queue(), {
    (self.delegate as TBGQRCodeViewController).displayQRCode(receiveAddr, withAmountInBTC:amountBTC)
})

How to prune local tracking branches that do not exist on remote anymore

One can configure Git to automatically remove references to deleted remote branches when fetching:

git config --global fetch.prune true

When calling git fetch or git pull afterwards, references to deleted remote branches get removed automatically.

Can you delete data from influxdb?

It appears that you can do this in influxdb 0.9. For instance, here's a query that just succeeded for me:

DROP SERIES FROM temperature WHERE machine='zagbar'

(Per generous comment by @MuratCorlu, I'm reposting my earlier comment as an answer...)

Ignore .classpath and .project from Git

Use a .gitignore file. This allows you to ignore certain files. http://git-scm.com/docs/gitignore

Here's an example Eclipse one, which handles your classpath and project files: https://github.com/github/gitignore/blob/master/Global/Eclipse.gitignore

Changing button text onclick

This is simple way to change Submit to loading state

 <button id="custSub" type="submit" class="button left tiny" data-text-swap="Processing.. &nbsp;">Submit &nbsp;<i class="fa fa-angle-double-right"></i></button>

    <script>
    jQuery(document).ready(function ($) {

        $("button").on("click", function() {
          var el = $(this);
          if (el.html() == el.data("text-swap")) {
            el.html(el.data("text-original"));
          } else {
            el.data("text-original", el.html());
            el.html(el.data("text-swap"));
          }
          setTimeout(function () {
                el.html(el.data("text-original"));
           }, 500);
        });

    });
    </script>

PHP get domain name

To answer your question, these should work as long as:

  • Your HTTP server passes these values along to PHP (I don't know any that don't)
  • You're not accessing the script via command line (CLI)

But, if I remember correctly, these values can be faked to an extent, so it's best not to rely on them.

My personal preference is to set the domain name as an environment variable in the apache2 virtual host:

# Virtual host
setEnv DOMAIN_NAME example.com

And read it in PHP:

// PHP
echo getenv(DOMAIN_NAME);

This, however, isn't applicable in all circumstances.

File upload from <input type="file">

If you have a complex form with multiple files and other inputs here is a solution that plays nice with ngModel.

It consists of a file input component that wraps a simple file input and implements the ControlValueAccessor interface to make it consumable by ngModel. The component exposes the FileList object to ngModel.

This solution is based on this article.

The component is used like this:

<file-input name="file" inputId="file" [(ngModel)]="user.photo"></file-input>
<label for="file"> Select file </label>

Here's the component code:

import { Component, Input, forwardRef } from '@angular/core';
import { NG_VALUE_ACCESSOR, ControlValueAccessor } from '@angular/forms';

const noop = () => {
};

export const CUSTOM_INPUT_CONTROL_VALUE_ACCESSOR: any = {
    provide: NG_VALUE_ACCESSOR,
    useExisting: forwardRef(() => FileInputComponent),
    multi: true
};

@Component({
  selector: 'file-input',
  templateUrl: './file-input.component.html',
  providers: [CUSTOM_INPUT_CONTROL_VALUE_ACCESSOR]
})
export class FileInputComponent {

  @Input()
  public name:string;

  @Input()
  public inputId:string;

  private innerValue:any;

  constructor() { }

  get value(): FileList {
    return this.innerValue;
  };

  private onTouchedCallback: () => void = noop;
  private onChangeCallback: (_: FileList) => void = noop;

  set value(v: FileList) {
    if (v !== this.innerValue) {
      this.innerValue = v;
      this.onChangeCallback(v);
    }
  }

  onBlur() {
    this.onTouchedCallback();
  }

  writeValue(value: FileList) {
    if (value !== this.innerValue) {
      this.innerValue = value;
    }
  }

  registerOnChange(fn: any) {
    this.onChangeCallback = fn;
  }

  registerOnTouched(fn: any) {
    this.onTouchedCallback = fn;
  }

  changeFile(event) {
    this.value = event.target.files;
  }
}

And here's the component template:

<input type="file" name="{{ name }}" id="{{ inputId }}" multiple="multiple" (change)="changeFile($event)"/>

How to convert JTextField to String and String to JTextField?

The JTextField offers a getText() and a setText() method - those are for getting and setting the content of the text field.

accessing a docker container from another container

It's easy. If you have two or more running container, complete next steps:

docker network create myNetwork
docker network connect myNetwork web1
docker network connect myNetwork web2

Now you connect from web1 to web2 container or the other way round.

Use the internal network IP addresses which you can find by running:

docker network inspect myNetwork

Note that only internal IP addresses and ports are accessible to the containers connected by the network bridge.

So for example assuming that web1 container was started with: docker run -p 80:8888 web1 (meaning that its server is running on port 8888 internally), and inspecting myNetwork shows that web1's IP is 172.0.0.2, you can connect from web2 to web1 using curl 172.0.0.2:8888).

for-in statement

The for-in statement is really there to enumerate over object properties, which is how it is implemented in TypeScript. There are some issues with using it on arrays.

I can't speak on behalf of the TypeScript team, but I believe this is the reason for the implementation in the language.

SQL Server procedure declare a list

I've always found it easier to invert the test against the list in situations like this. For instance...

SELECT
    field0, field1, field2
FROM
    my_table
WHERE
    ',' + @mysearchlist + ',' LIKE '%,' + CAST(field3 AS VARCHAR) + ',%'

This means that there is no complicated mish-mash required for the values that you are looking for.

As an example, if our list was ('1,2,3'), then we add a comma to the start and end of our list like so: ',' + @mysearchlist + ','.

We also do the same for the field value we're looking for and add wildcards: '%,' + CAST(field3 AS VARCHAR) + ',%' (notice the % and the , characters).

Finally we test the two using the LIKE operator: ',' + @mysearchlist + ',' LIKE '%,' + CAST(field3 AS VARCHAR) + ',%'.

What is the difference between min SDK version/target SDK version vs. compile SDK version?

The formula is

minSdkVersion <= targetSdkVersion <= compileSdkVersion

minSdkVersion - is a marker that defines a minimum Android version on which application will be able to install. Also it is used by Lint to prevent calling API that doesn’t exist. Also it has impact on Build Time. So you can use build flavors to override minSdkVersion to maximum during the development. It will help to make build faster using all improvements that the Android team provides for us. For example some features Java 8 are available only from specific version of minSdkVersion.

targetSdkVersion - If AndroidOS version is >= targetSdkVersion it says Android system to turn on specific(new) behavior changes. *Please note that some of new behaviors will be turned on by default even if thought targetSdkVersion is <, you should read official doc.

For example:

  • Starting in Android 6.0 (API level 23) Runtime Permissions were introduced. If you set targetSdkVersion to 22 or lower your application does not ask a user for some permission in run time.

  • Starting in Android 8.0 (API level 26), all notifications must be assigned to a channel or it will not appear. On devices running Android 7.1 (API level 25) and lower, users can manage notifications on a per-app basis only (effectively each app only has one channel on Android 7.1 and lower).

  • Starting in Android 9 (API level 28), Web-based data directories separated by process. If targetSdkVersion is 28+ and you create several WebView in different processes you will get java.lang.RuntimeException

compileSdkVersion - actually it is SDK Platform version and tells Gradle which Android SDK use to compile. When you want to use new features or debug .java files from Android SDK you should take care of compileSdkVersion. One more example is using AndroidX that forces to use compileSdkVersion - level 28. compileSdkVersion is not included in your APK: it is purely used at compile time. Changing your compileSdkVersion does not change runtime behavior. It can generate for example new compiler warnings/errors. Therefore it is strongly recommended that you always compile with the latest SDK. You’ll get all the benefits of new compilation checks on existing code, avoid newly deprecated APIs, and be ready to use new APIs. One more fact is compileSdkVersion >= Support Library version

You can read more about it here. Also I would recommend you to take a look at the example of migration to Android 8.0.

Free space in a CMD shell

A possible solution:

dir|find "bytes free"

a more "advanced solution", for Windows Xp and beyond:

wmic /node:"%COMPUTERNAME%" LogicalDisk Where DriveType="3" Get DeviceID,FreeSpace|find /I "c:"

The Windows Management Instrumentation Command-line (WMIC) tool (Wmic.exe) can gather vast amounts of information about about a Windows Server 2003 as well as Windows XP or Vista. The tool accesses the underlying hardware by using Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI). Not for Windows 2000.

As noted by Alexander Stohr in the comments:

  • WMIC can see policy based restrictions as well. (even if 'dir' will still do the job),
  • 'dir' is locale dependent.

Inline instantiation of a constant List

const is for compile-time constants. You could just make it static readonly, but that would only apply to the METRICS variable itself (which should typically be Metrics instead, by .NET naming conventions). It wouldn't make the list immutable - so someone could call METRICS.Add("shouldn't be here");

You may want to use a ReadOnlyCollection<T> to wrap it. For example:

public static readonly IList<String> Metrics = new ReadOnlyCollection<string>
    (new List<String> {
         SourceFile.LoC, SourceFile.McCabe, SourceFile.NoM,
         SourceFile.NoA, SourceFile.FanOut, SourceFile.FanIn,
         SourceFile.Par, SourceFile.Ndc, SourceFile.Calls });

ReadOnlyCollection<T> just wraps a potentially-mutable collection, but as nothing else will have access to the List<T> afterwards, you can regard the overall collection as immutable.

(The capitalization here is mostly guesswork - using fuller names would make them clearer, IMO.)

Whether you declare it as IList<string>, IEnumerable<string>, ReadOnlyCollection<string> or something else is up to you... if you expect that it should only be treated as a sequence, then IEnumerable<string> would probably be most appropriate. If the order matters and you want people to be able to access it by index, IList<T> may be appropriate. If you want to make the immutability apparent, declaring it as ReadOnlyCollection<T> could be handy - but inflexible.

How to get value of checked item from CheckedListBox?

EDIT: I realized a little late that it was bound to a DataTable. In that case the idea is the same, and you can cast to a DataRowView then take its Row property to get a DataRow if you want to work with that class.

foreach (var item in checkedListBox1.CheckedItems)
{
    var row = (item as DataRowView).Row;
    MessageBox.Show(row["ID"] + ": " + row["CompanyName"]);
}

You would need to cast or parse the items to their strongly typed equivalents, or use the System.Data.DataSetExtensions namespace to use the DataRowExtensions.Field method demonstrated below:

foreach (var item in checkedListBox1.CheckedItems)
{
    var row = (item as DataRowView).Row;
    int id = row.Field<int>("ID");
    string name = row.Field<string>("CompanyName");
    MessageBox.Show(id + ": " + name);
}

You need to cast the item to access the properties of your class.

foreach (var item in checkedListBox1.CheckedItems)
{
    var company = (Company)item;
    MessageBox.Show(company.Id + ": " + company.CompanyName);
}

Alternately, you could use the OfType extension method to get strongly typed results back without explicitly casting within the loop:

foreach (var item in checkedListBox1.CheckedItems.OfType<Company>())
{
    MessageBox.Show(item.Id + ": " + item.CompanyName);
}

How can I format date by locale in Java?

Yes, using DateFormat.getDateInstance(int style, Locale aLocale) This displays the current date in a locale-specific way.

So, for example:

DateFormat df = DateFormat.getDateInstance(DateFormat.SHORT, yourLocale);
String formattedDate = df.format(yourDate);

See the docs for the exact meaning of the style parameter (SHORT, MEDIUM, etc)

Javascript code for showing yesterday's date and todays date

Yesterday's date can be calculated as,

var prev_date = new Date();
prev_date.setDate(prev_date.getDate() - 1);

MYSQL into outfile "access denied" - but my user has "ALL" access.. and the folder is CHMOD 777

I tried all the solutions but it still wasn't sufficient. After some more digging I eventually found I had also to set the 'file_priv' flag, and restart mysql.

To resume :

Grant the privileges :

> GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES
  ON my_database.*
  to 'my_user'@'localhost';

> GRANT FILE ON *.* TO my_user;

> FLUSH PRIVILEGES;

Set the flag :

> UPDATE mysql.user SET File_priv = 'Y' WHERE user='my_user' AND host='localhost';

Finally restart the mysql server:

$ sudo service mysql restart

After that, I could write into the secure_file_priv directory. For me it was /var/lib/mysql-files/, but you can check it with the following command :

> SHOW VARIABLES LIKE "secure_file_priv";

Database corruption with MariaDB : Table doesn't exist in engine

I had old MySQL and Centos OS (ver 6 I believe) that was not supported.
One day I couldn't access Plesk.
Using Filezilla, I copied files the database files from var/lib/mysql/databasename/ I then purchased a new server with new Centos 8 OS and MariaDB. In Plesk, I created a new database with the same name as my old one.
Using Filezilla, I then pasted the old database files into the newly created database folder. I could see the data in phpmyadmin but it was giving errors such as the ones described here. I happened to have an old sql backup dump file. I imported the dump file and it overwrote those files. I then pasted the old files back into var/lib/mysql/databasename/ I then had to do a repair in Plesk. To my suprise. It worked. I had over 6 months of order data restored and I didn't lose anything.

How do I plot only a table in Matplotlib?

This is another option to write a pandas dataframe directly into a matplotlib table:

import numpy as np
import pandas as pd
import matplotlib.pyplot as plt

fig, ax = plt.subplots()

# hide axes
fig.patch.set_visible(False)
ax.axis('off')
ax.axis('tight')

df = pd.DataFrame(np.random.randn(10, 4), columns=list('ABCD'))

ax.table(cellText=df.values, colLabels=df.columns, loc='center')

fig.tight_layout()

plt.show()

Get just the filename from a path in a Bash script

Some more alternative options because regexes (regi ?) are awesome!

Here is a Simple regex to do the job:

 regex="[^/]*$"

Example (grep):

 FP="/hello/world/my/file/path/hello_my_filename.log"
 echo $FP | grep -oP "$regex"
 #Or using standard input
 grep -oP "$regex" <<< $FP

Example (awk):

 echo $FP | awk '{match($1, "$regex",a)}END{print a[0]}
 #Or using stardard input
 awk '{match($1, "$regex",a)}END{print a[0]} <<< $FP

If you need a more complicated regex: For example your path is wrapped in a string.

 StrFP="my string is awesome file: /hello/world/my/file/path/hello_my_filename.log sweet path bro."

 #this regex matches a string not containing / and ends with a period
 #then at least one word character
 #so its useful if you have an extension

 regex="[^/]*\.\w{1,}"

 #usage
 grep -oP "$regex" <<< $StrFP

 #alternatively you can get a little more complicated and use lookarounds
 #this regex matches a part of a string that starts with / that does not contain a /
 ##then uses the lazy operator ? to match any character at any amount (as little as possible hence the lazy)
 ##that is followed by a space
 ##this allows use to match just a file name in a string with a file path if it has an exntension or not
 ##also if the path doesnt have file it will match the last directory in the file path
 ##however this will break if the file path has a space in it.

 regex="(?<=/)[^/]*?(?=\s)"

 #to fix the above problem you can use sed to remove spaces from the file path only
 ## as a side note unfortunately sed has limited regex capibility and it must be written out in long hand.
 NewStrFP=$(echo $StrFP | sed 's:\(/[a-z]*\)\( \)\([a-z]*/\):\1\3:g')
 grep -oP "$regex" <<< $NewStrFP

Total solution with Regexes:

This function can give you the filename with or without extension of a linux filepath even if the filename has multiple "."s in it. It can also handle spaces in the filepath and if the file path is embedded or wrapped in a string.

#you may notice that the sed replace has gotten really crazy looking
#I just added all of the allowed characters in a linux file path
function Get-FileName(){
    local FileString="$1"
    local NoExtension="$2"
    local FileString=$(echo $FileString | sed 's:\(/[a-zA-Z0-9\<\>\|\\\:\)\(\&\;\,\?\*]*\)\( \)\([a-zA-Z0-9\<\>\|\\\:\)\(\&\;\,\?\*]*/\):\1\3:g')

    local regex="(?<=/)[^/]*?(?=\s)"

    local FileName=$(echo $FileString | grep -oP "$regex")

    if [[ "$NoExtension" != "" ]]; then
        sed 's:\.[^\.]*$::g' <<< $FileName
    else
        echo "$FileName"
    fi
}

## call the function with extension
Get-FileName "my string is awesome file: /hel lo/world/my/file test/path/hello_my_filename.log sweet path bro."

##call function without extension
Get-FileName "my string is awesome file: /hel lo/world/my/file test/path/hello_my_filename.log sweet path bro." "1"

If you have to mess with a windows path you can start with this one:

 [^\\]*$

iOS 8 removed "minimal-ui" viewport property, are there other "soft fullscreen" solutions?

It IS possible, using something like the below example that I put together with the help of work from (https://gist.github.com/bitinn/1700068a276fb29740a7) that didn't quite work on iOS 11:

Here's the modified code that works on iOS 11.03, please comment if it worked for you.

The key is adding some size to BODY so the browser can scroll, ex: height: calc(100% + 40px);

Replacing NULL with 0 in a SQL server query

If you are using Presto, AWS Athena etc, there is no ISNULL() function. Instead, use:

SELECT COALESCE(myColumn, 0 ) FROM myTable

How do I style (css) radio buttons and labels?

This will get your buttons and labels next to each other, at least. I believe the second part can't be done in css alone, and will need javascript. I found a page that might help you with that part as well, but I don't have time right now to try it out: http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum83/6942.htm

<style type="text/css">
.input input {
  float: left;
}
.input label {
  margin: 5px;
}
</style>
<div class="input radio">
    <fieldset>
        <legend>What color is the sky?</legend>
        <input type="hidden" name="data[Submit][question]" value="" id="SubmitQuestion" />

        <input type="radio" name="data[Submit][question]" id="SubmitQuestion1" value="1"  />
        <label for="SubmitQuestion1">A strange radient green.</label>

        <input type="radio" name="data[Submit][question]" id="SubmitQuestion2" value="2"  />
        <label for="SubmitQuestion2">A dark gloomy orange</label>
        <input type="radio" name="data[Submit][question]" id="SubmitQuestion3" value="3"  />
        <label for="SubmitQuestion3">A perfect glittering blue</label>

C++ Convert string (or char*) to wstring (or wchar_t*)

string s = "????"; is an error.

You should use wstring directly:

wstring ws = L"????";

How to implement one-to-one, one-to-many and many-to-many relationships while designing tables?

Here are some real-world examples of the types of relationships:

One-to-one (1:1)

A relationship is one-to-one if and only if one record from table A is related to a maximum of one record in table B.

To establish a one-to-one relationship, the primary key of table B (with no orphan record) must be the secondary key of table A (with orphan records).

For example:

CREATE TABLE Gov(
    GID number(6) PRIMARY KEY,
    Name varchar2(25),
    Address varchar2(30),
    TermBegin date,
    TermEnd date
);

CREATE TABLE State(
    SID number(3) PRIMARY KEY,
    StateName varchar2(15),
    Population number(10),
    SGID Number(4) REFERENCES Gov(GID),
    CONSTRAINT GOV_SDID UNIQUE (SGID)
);

INSERT INTO gov(GID, Name, Address, TermBegin)
values(110, 'Bob', '123 Any St', '1-Jan-2009');

INSERT INTO STATE values(111, 'Virginia', 2000000, 110);

One-to-many (1:M)

A relationship is one-to-many if and only if one record from table A is related to one or more records in table B. However, one record in table B cannot be related to more than one record in table A.

To establish a one-to-many relationship, the primary key of table A (the "one" table) must be the secondary key of table B (the "many" table).

For example:

CREATE TABLE Vendor(
    VendorNumber number(4) PRIMARY KEY,
    Name varchar2(20),
    Address varchar2(20),
    City varchar2(15),
    Street varchar2(2),
    ZipCode varchar2(10),
    Contact varchar2(16),
    PhoneNumber varchar2(12),
    Status varchar2(8),
    StampDate date
);

CREATE TABLE Inventory(
    Item varchar2(6) PRIMARY KEY,
    Description varchar2(30),
    CurrentQuantity number(4) NOT NULL,
    VendorNumber number(2) REFERENCES Vendor(VendorNumber),
    ReorderQuantity number(3) NOT NULL
);

Many-to-many (M:M)

A relationship is many-to-many if and only if one record from table A is related to one or more records in table B and vice-versa.

To establish a many-to-many relationship, create a third table called "ClassStudentRelation" which will have the primary keys of both table A and table B.

CREATE TABLE Class(
    ClassID varchar2(10) PRIMARY KEY,
    Title varchar2(30),
    Instructor varchar2(30),
    Day varchar2(15),
    Time varchar2(10)
);

CREATE TABLE Student(
    StudentID varchar2(15) PRIMARY KEY,
    Name varchar2(35),
    Major varchar2(35),
    ClassYear varchar2(10),
    Status varchar2(10)
);

CREATE TABLE ClassStudentRelation(
    StudentID varchar2(15) NOT NULL,
    ClassID varchar2(14) NOT NULL,
    FOREIGN KEY (StudentID) REFERENCES Student(StudentID),
    FOREIGN KEY (ClassID) REFERENCES Class(ClassID),
    UNIQUE (StudentID, ClassID)
);

no default constructor exists for class

If you define a class without any constructor, the compiler will synthesize a constructor for you (and that will be a default constructor -- i.e., one that doesn't require any arguments). If, however, you do define a constructor, (even if it does take one or more arguments) the compiler will not synthesize a constructor for you -- at that point, you've taken responsibility for constructing objects of that class, so the compiler "steps back", so to speak, and leaves that job to you.

You have two choices. You need to either provide a default constructor, or you need to supply the correct parameter when you define an object. For example, you could change your constructor to look something like:

Blowfish(BlowfishAlgorithm algorithm = CBC);

...so the ctor could be invoked without (explicitly) specifying an algorithm (in which case it would use CBC as the algorithm).

The other alternative would be to explicitly specify the algorithm when you define a Blowfish object:

class GameCryptography {
    Blowfish blowfish_;
public:
    GameCryptography() : blowfish_(ECB) {}
    // ...
};

In C++ 11 (or later) you have one more option available. You can define your constructor that takes an argument, but then tell the compiler to generate the constructor it would have if you didn't define one:

class GameCryptography {
public:

    // define our ctor that takes an argument
    GameCryptography(BlofishAlgorithm);

    // Tell the compiler to do what it would have if we didn't define a ctor:
    GameCryptography() = default;
};

As a final note, I think it's worth mentioning that ECB, CBC, CFB, etc., are modes of operation, not really encryption algorithms themselves. Calling them algorithms won't bother the compiler, but is unreasonably likely to cause a problem for others reading the code.

What is the canonical way to check for errors using the CUDA runtime API?

The C++-canonical way: Don't check for errors...use the C++ bindings which throw exceptions.

I used to be irked by this problem; and I used to have a macro-cum-wrapper-function solution just like in Talonmies and Jared's answers, but, honestly? It makes using the CUDA Runtime API even more ugly and C-like.

So I've approached this in a different and more fundamental way. For a sample of the result, here's part of the CUDA vectorAdd sample - with complete error checking of every runtime API call:

// (... prepare host-side buffers here ...)

auto current_device = cuda::device::current::get();
auto d_A = cuda::memory::device::make_unique<float[]>(current_device, numElements);
auto d_B = cuda::memory::device::make_unique<float[]>(current_device, numElements);
auto d_C = cuda::memory::device::make_unique<float[]>(current_device, numElements);

cuda::memory::copy(d_A.get(), h_A.get(), size);
cuda::memory::copy(d_B.get(), h_B.get(), size);

// (... prepare a launch configuration here... )

cuda::launch(vectorAdd, launch_config,
    d_A.get(), d_B.get(), d_C.get(), numElements
);
cuda::memory::copy(h_C.get(), d_C.get(), size);

// (... verify results here...)

Again - all potential errors are checked , and an exception if an error occurred (caveat: If the kernel caused some error after launch, it will be caught after the attempt to copy the result, not before; to ensure the kernel was successful you would need to check for error between the launch and the copy with a cuda::outstanding_error::ensure_none() command).

The code above uses my

Thin Modern-C++ wrappers for the CUDA Runtime API library (Github)

Note that the exceptions carry both a string explanation and the CUDA runtime API status code after the failing call.

A few links to how CUDA errors are automagically checked with these wrappers:

How can I fix the Microsoft Visual Studio error: "package did not load correctly"?

I had this problem, and projects were not loading correctly or stating that they needed migration. The ActivityLog.xml showed an error with a particular extension. I uninstalled the extension and restarted Visual Studio. That resolved the issue.

How to bind Dataset to DataGridView in windows application

following will show one table of dataset

DataGridView1.AutoGenerateColumns = true;
DataGridView1.DataSource = ds; // dataset
DataGridView1.DataMember = "TableName"; // table name you need to show

if you want to show multiple tables, you need to create one datatable or custom object collection out of all tables.

if two tables with same table schema

dtAll = dtOne.Copy(); // dtOne = ds.Tables[0]
dtAll.Merge(dtTwo); // dtTwo = dtOne = ds.Tables[1]

DataGridView1.AutoGenerateColumns = true;
DataGridView1.DataSource = dtAll ; // datatable

sample code to mode all tables

DataTable dtAll = ds.Tables[0].Copy();
for (var i = 1; i < ds.Tables.Count; i++)
{
     dtAll.Merge(ds.Tables[i]);
}
DataGridView1.AutoGenerateColumns = true;
DataGridView1.DataSource = dtAll ;

error: strcpy was not declared in this scope

When you say:

 #include <cstring>

the g++ compiler should put the <string.h> declarations it itself includes into the std:: AND the global namespaces. It looks for some reason as if it is not doing that. Try replacing one instance of strcpy with std::strcpy and see if that fixes the problem.

Using PowerShell to remove lines from a text file if it contains a string

Suppose you want to write that in the same file, you can do as follows:

Set-Content -Path "C:\temp\Newtext.txt" -Value (get-content -Path "c:\Temp\Newtext.txt" | Select-String -Pattern 'H\|159' -NotMatch)

Assign output of a program to a variable using a MS batch file

As an addition to this previous answer, pipes can be used inside a for statement, escaped by a caret symbol:

Array initialization in Perl

To produce the output in your comment to your post, this will do it:

use strict;
use warnings;

my @other_array = (0,0,0,1,2,2,3,3,3,4);
my @array;
my %uniqs;

$uniqs{$_}++ for @other_array;

foreach (keys %uniqs) { $array[$_]=$uniqs{$_} }

print "array[$_] = $array[$_]\n" for (0..$#array);

Output:

   array[0] = 3
   array[1] = 1
   array[2] = 2
   array[3] = 3
   array[4] = 1

This is different than your stated algorithm of producing a parallel array with zero values, but it is a more Perly way of doing it...

If you must have a parallel array that is the same size as your first array with the elements initialized to 0, this statement will dynamically do it: @array=(0) x scalar(@other_array); but really, you don't need to do that.

jQuery won't parse my JSON from AJAX query

Is your server sending data as Content-Type "*/json"? If not, modify the response headers accordingly. Sending "application/json" would be fine, for example.

get enum name from enum value

In my case value was not an integer but a String. getNameByCode method can be added to the enum to get name of a String value-

enum CODE {
    SUCCESS("SCS"), DELETE("DEL");

    private String status;

    /**
     * @return the status
     */
    public String getStatus() {
        return status;
    }

    /**
     * @param status
     *            the status to set
     */
    public void setStatus(String status) {
        this.status = status;
    }

    private CODE(String status) {
        this.status = status;
    }

    public static String getNameByCode(String code) {
        for (int i = 0; i < CODE.values().length; i++) {
            if (code.equals(CODE.values()[i].status))
                return CODE.values()[i].name();
        }
        return null;
    }

const handleMenu = (event: React.MouseEvent<HTMLButtonElement, MouseEvent>) : void => {
    setAnchorElement(event.currentTarget);
};

How to implement a secure REST API with node.js

I've had the same problem you describe. The web site I'm building can be accessed from a mobile phone and from the browser so I need an api to allow users to signup, login and do some specific tasks. Furthermore, I need to support scalability, the same code running on different processes/machines.

Because users can CREATE resources (aka POST/PUT actions) you need to secure your api. You can use oauth or you can build your own solution but keep in mind that all the solutions can be broken if the password it's really easy to discover. The basic idea is to authenticate users using the username, password and a token, aka the apitoken. This apitoken can be generated using node-uuid and the password can be hashed using pbkdf2

Then, you need to save the session somewhere. If you save it in memory in a plain object, if you kill the server and reboot it again the session will be destroyed. Also, this is not scalable. If you use haproxy to load balance between machines or if you simply use workers, this session state will be stored in a single process so if the same user is redirected to another process/machine it will need to authenticate again. Therefore you need to store the session in a common place. This is typically done using redis.

When the user is authenticated (username+password+apitoken) generate another token for the session, aka accesstoken. Again, with node-uuid. Send to the user the accesstoken and the userid. The userid (key) and the accesstoken (value) are stored in redis with and expire time, e.g. 1h.

Now, every time the user does any operation using the rest api it will need to send the userid and the accesstoken.

If you allow the users to signup using the rest api, you'll need to create an admin account with an admin apitoken and store them in the mobile app (encrypt username+password+apitoken) because new users won't have an apitoken when they sign up.

The web also uses this api but you don't need to use apitokens. You can use express with a redis store or use the same technique described above but bypassing the apitoken check and returning to the user the userid+accesstoken in a cookie.

If you have private areas compare the username with the allowed users when they authenticate. You can also apply roles to the users.

Summary:

sequence diagram

An alternative without apitoken would be to use HTTPS and to send the username and password in the Authorization header and cache the username in redis.

What's the best practice to "git clone" into an existing folder?

If you are using at least git 1.7.7 (which taught clone the --config option), to turn the current directory into a working copy:

git clone example.com/my.git ./.git --mirror --config core.bare=false

This works by:

  • Cloning the repository into a new .git folder
  • --mirror makes the new clone into a purely metadata folder as .git needs to be
  • --config core.bare=false countermands the implicit bare=true of the --mirror option, thereby allowing the repository to have an associated working directory and act like a normal clone

This obviously won't work if a .git metadata directory already exists in the directory you wish to turn into a working copy.

What's the difference between “mod” and “remainder”?

There is a difference between modulus and remainder. For example:

-21 mod 4 is 3 because -21 + 4 x 6 is 3.

But -21 divided by 4 gives -5 with a remainder of -1.

For positive values, there is no difference.

What does Statement.setFetchSize(nSize) method really do in SQL Server JDBC driver?

In JDBC, the setFetchSize(int) method is very important to performance and memory-management within the JVM as it controls the number of network calls from the JVM to the database and correspondingly the amount of RAM used for ResultSet processing.

Inherently if setFetchSize(10) is being called and the driver is ignoring it, there are probably only two options:

  1. Try a different JDBC driver that will honor the fetch-size hint.
  2. Look at driver-specific properties on the Connection (URL and/or property map when creating the Connection instance).

The RESULT-SET is the number of rows marshalled on the DB in response to the query. The ROW-SET is the chunk of rows that are fetched out of the RESULT-SET per call from the JVM to the DB. The number of these calls and resulting RAM required for processing is dependent on the fetch-size setting.

So if the RESULT-SET has 100 rows and the fetch-size is 10, there will be 10 network calls to retrieve all of the data, using roughly 10*{row-content-size} RAM at any given time.

The default fetch-size is 10, which is rather small. In the case posted, it would appear the driver is ignoring the fetch-size setting, retrieving all data in one call (large RAM requirement, optimum minimal network calls).

What happens underneath ResultSet.next() is that it doesn't actually fetch one row at a time from the RESULT-SET. It fetches that from the (local) ROW-SET and fetches the next ROW-SET (invisibly) from the server as it becomes exhausted on the local client.

All of this depends on the driver as the setting is just a 'hint' but in practice I have found this is how it works for many drivers and databases (verified in many versions of Oracle, DB2 and MySQL).

Using classes with the Arduino

On Arduino 1.0, this compiles just fine:

class A
{
  public:
   int x;
   virtual void f() { x=1; }
};

class B : public A
{
  public:
    int y;
    virtual void f() { x=2; }
};

A *a;
B *b;
const int TEST_PIN = 10;

void setup()
{
   a=new A();
   b=new B();
   pinMode(TEST_PIN,OUTPUT);
}

void loop()
{
   a->f();
   b->f();
   digitalWrite(TEST_PIN,(a->x == b->x) ? HIGH : LOW);
}

What's the difference between unit tests and integration tests?

Unit test is usually done for a single functionality implemented in Software module. The scope of testing is entirely within this SW module. Unit test never fulfils the final functional requirements. It comes under whitebox testing methodology..

Whereas Integration test is done to ensure the different SW module implementations. Testing is usually carried out after module level integration is done in SW development.. This test will cover the functional requirements but not enough to ensure system validation.

How can I change or remove HTML5 form validation default error messages?

you can remove this alert by doing following:

I have created the below function using the information provided in the answer from @kraeppy (https://stackoverflow.com/a/19930386/2617732). This requires the .net framework v4.5 to be used and requires a reference to System.IO.Compression. This only works for xlsx files and not for the older xls files.

    using System.IO.Compression;
    using System.Xml;
    using System.Xml.Linq;

    static IEnumerable<string> GetWorksheetNamesOrdered(string fileName)
    {
        //open the excel file
        using (FileStream data = new FileStream(fileName, FileMode.Open))
        {
            //unzip
            ZipArchive archive = new ZipArchive(data);

            //select the correct file from the archive
            ZipArchiveEntry appxmlFile = archive.Entries.SingleOrDefault(e => e.FullName == "docProps/app.xml");

            //read the xml
            XDocument xdoc = XDocument.Load(appxmlFile.Open());

            //find the titles element
            XElement titlesElement = xdoc.Descendants().Where(e => e.Name.LocalName == "TitlesOfParts").Single();

            //extract the worksheet names
            return titlesElement
                .Elements().Where(e => e.Name.LocalName == "vector").Single()
                .Elements().Where(e => e.Name.LocalName == "lpstr")
                .Select(e => e.Value);
        }
    }

Match all elements having class name starting with a specific string

It's not a direct answer to the question, however I would suggest in most cases to simply set multiple classes to each element:

<div class="myclass one"></div>
<div class="myclass two></div>
<div class="myclass three"></div>

In this way you can set rules for all myclass elements and then more specific rules for one, two and three.

.myclass { color: #f00; }

.two { font-weight: bold; }

etc.

Converting Integers to Roman Numerals - Java

I noticed that it's quite easy to translate from integer to Roman Numeral, because there's always sort of 1, 5 and 10 for every digit (i.e. I, V and X for 1-10, X, L and C for 10-100 etc.) That's why I made an array of Roman Numerals to get the right letter from.

In my example, I go through the whole number one digit per time, using modulo operator to get the last digit each time. Then I form the Roman Numeral from current digit inside a switch-statement, adding it in the beginning of asRomanNumerals String. After the digit has been translated, it gets removed from the number and index used to look for letter in array gets increased with two (IVX -> XLC).

public static void main(String[] args) {

    // number is the one to be translated into Roman Numerals
    int number = 2345;
    number = Math.min(3999, Math.max(1, number)); // wraps number between 1-3999
    String asRomanNumerals = "";

    // Array including numerals in ascending order
    String[] RN = {"I", "V", "X", "L", "C", "D", "M" };
    int i = 0; // Index used to keep track which digit we are translating
    while (number > 0) {
        switch(number % 10) {
        case 1: asRomanNumerals = RN[i] + asRomanNumerals; break;
        case 2: asRomanNumerals = RN[i] + RN[i] + asRomanNumerals; break;
        case 3: asRomanNumerals = RN[i] + RN[i] + RN[i] + asRomanNumerals; break;
        case 4: asRomanNumerals = RN[i] + RN[i + 1] + asRomanNumerals; break;
        case 5: asRomanNumerals = RN[i + 1] + asRomanNumerals; break;
        case 6: asRomanNumerals = RN[i + 1] + RN[i] + asRomanNumerals; break;
        case 7: asRomanNumerals = RN[i + 1] + RN[i] + RN[i] + asRomanNumerals; break;
        case 8: asRomanNumerals = RN[i + 1] + RN[i] + RN[i] + RN[i] +asRomanNumerals; break;
        case 9: asRomanNumerals = RN[i] + RN[i + 2] + asRomanNumerals; break;
        }
        number = (int) number / 10;
        i += 2;
    }
    System.out.println(asRomanNumerals);
}

Extract specific columns from delimited file using Awk

Not using awk but the simplest way I was able to get this done was to just use csvtool. I had other use cases as well to use csvtool and it can handle the quotes or delimiters appropriately if they appear within the column data itself.

csvtool format '%(2)\n' input.csv
csvtool format '%(2),%(3),%(4)\n' input.csv

Replacing 2 with the column number will effectively extract the column data you are looking for.

Local storage in Angular 2

The standard localStorage API should be available, just do e.g.:

localStorage.setItem('whatever', 'something');

It's pretty widely supported.

Note that you will need to add "dom" to the "lib" array in your tsconfig.json if you don't already have it.

What is the http-header "X-XSS-Protection"?

X-XSS-Protection is a HTTP header understood by Internet Explorer 8 (and newer versions). This header lets domains toggle on and off the "XSS Filter" of IE8, which prevents some categories of XSS attacks. IE8 has the filter activated by default, but servers can switch if off by setting

   X-XSS-Protection: 0

When should I use uuid.uuid1() vs. uuid.uuid4() in python?

Perhaps something that's not been mentioned is that of locality.

A MAC address or time-based ordering (UUID1) can afford increased database performance, since it's less work to sort numbers closer-together than those distributed randomly (UUID4) (see here).

A second related issue, is that using UUID1 can be useful in debugging, even if origin data is lost or not explicitly stored (this is obviously in conflict with the privacy issue mentioned by the OP).

How can I count the number of matches for a regex?

If you want to use Java 8 streams and are allergic to while loops, you could try this:

public static int countPattern(String references, Pattern referencePattern) {
    Matcher matcher = referencePattern.matcher(references);
    return Stream.iterate(0, i -> i + 1)
            .filter(i -> !matcher.find())
            .findFirst()
            .get();
}

Disclaimer: this only works for disjoint matches.

Example:

public static void main(String[] args) throws ParseException {
    Pattern referencePattern = Pattern.compile("PASSENGER:\\d+");
    System.out.println(countPattern("[ \"PASSENGER:1\", \"PASSENGER:2\", \"AIR:1\", \"AIR:2\", \"FOP:2\" ]", referencePattern));
    System.out.println(countPattern("[ \"AIR:1\", \"AIR:2\", \"FOP:2\" ]", referencePattern));
    System.out.println(countPattern("[ \"AIR:1\", \"AIR:2\", \"FOP:2\", \"PASSENGER:1\" ]", referencePattern));
    System.out.println(countPattern("[  ]", referencePattern));
}

This prints out:

2
0
1
0

This is a solution for disjoint matches with streams:

public static int countPattern(String references, Pattern referencePattern) {
    return StreamSupport.stream(Spliterators.spliteratorUnknownSize(
            new Iterator<Integer>() {
                Matcher matcher = referencePattern.matcher(references);
                int from = 0;

                @Override
                public boolean hasNext() {
                    return matcher.find(from);
                }

                @Override
                public Integer next() {
                    from = matcher.start() + 1;
                    return 1;
                }
            },
            Spliterator.IMMUTABLE), false).reduce(0, (a, c) -> a + c);
}

sudo echo "something" >> /etc/privilegedFile doesn't work

By using sed -i with $ a , you can append text, containing both variables and special characters, after the last line.

For example, adding $NEW_HOST with $NEW_IP to /etc/hosts:

sudo sed -i "\$ a $NEW_IP\t\t$NEW_HOST.domain.local\t$NEW_HOST" /etc/hosts

sed options explained:

  • -i for in-place
  • $ for last line
  • a for append

How can I safely create a nested directory?

On Python = 3.5, use pathlib.Path.mkdir:

from pathlib import Path
Path("/my/directory").mkdir(parents=True, exist_ok=True)

For older versions of Python, I see two answers with good qualities, each with a small flaw, so I will give my take on it:

Try os.path.exists, and consider os.makedirs for the creation.

import os
if not os.path.exists(directory):
    os.makedirs(directory)

As noted in comments and elsewhere, there's a race condition – if the directory is created between the os.path.exists and the os.makedirs calls, the os.makedirs will fail with an OSError. Unfortunately, blanket-catching OSError and continuing is not foolproof, as it will ignore a failure to create the directory due to other factors, such as insufficient permissions, full disk, etc.

One option would be to trap the OSError and examine the embedded error code (see Is there a cross-platform way of getting information from Python’s OSError):

import os, errno

try:
    os.makedirs(directory)
except OSError as e:
    if e.errno != errno.EEXIST:
        raise

Alternatively, there could be a second os.path.exists, but suppose another created the directory after the first check, then removed it before the second one – we could still be fooled.

Depending on the application, the danger of concurrent operations may be more or less than the danger posed by other factors such as file permissions. The developer would have to know more about the particular application being developed and its expected environment before choosing an implementation.

Modern versions of Python improve this code quite a bit, both by exposing FileExistsError (in 3.3+)...

try:
    os.makedirs("path/to/directory")
except FileExistsError:
    # directory already exists
    pass

...and by allowing a keyword argument to os.makedirs called exist_ok (in 3.2+).

os.makedirs("path/to/directory", exist_ok=True) # succeeds even if directory exists.

Get LatLng from Zip Code - Google Maps API

Couldn't you just call the following replaceing the {zipcode} with the zip code or city and state http://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/geocode/json?address={zipcode}

Google Geocoding

Here is a link with a How To Geocode using JavaScript: Geocode walk-thru. If you need the specific lat/lng numbers call geometry.location.lat() or geometry.location.lng() (API for google.maps.LatLng class)

EXAMPLE to get lat/lng:

    var lat = '';
    var lng = '';
    var address = {zipcode} or {city and state};
    geocoder.geocode( { 'address': address}, function(results, status) {
      if (status == google.maps.GeocoderStatus.OK) {
         lat = results[0].geometry.location.lat();
         lng = results[0].geometry.location.lng();
        });
      } else {
        alert("Geocode was not successful for the following reason: " + status);
      }
    });
    alert('Latitude: ' + lat + ' Logitude: ' + lng);

onclick or inline script isn't working in extension

I had the same problem, and didn´t want to rewrite the code, so I wrote a function to modify the code and create the inline declarated events:

function compile(qSel){
    var matches = [];
    var match = null;
    var c = 0;

    var html = $(qSel).html();
    var pattern = /(<(.*?)on([a-zA-Z]+)\s*=\s*('|")(.*)('|")(.*?))(>)/mg;

    while (match = pattern.exec(html)) {
        var arr = [];
        for (i in match) {
            if (!isNaN(i)) {
                arr.push(match[i]);
            }
        }
        matches.push(arr);
    }
    var items_with_events = [];
    var compiledHtml = html;

    for ( var i in matches ){
        var item_with_event = {
            custom_id : "my_app_identifier_"+i,
            code : matches[i][5],
            on : matches[i][3],
        };
        items_with_events.push(item_with_event);
        compiledHtml = compiledHtml.replace(/(<(.*?)on([a-zA-Z]+)\s*=\s*('|")(.*)('|")(.*?))(>)/m, "<$2 custom_id='"+item_with_event.custom_id+"' $7 $8");
    }

    $(qSel).html(compiledHtml);

    for ( var i in items_with_events ){
        $("[custom_id='"+items_with_events[i].custom_id+"']").bind(items_with_events[i].on, function(){
            eval(items_with_events[i].code);
        });
    }
}

$(document).ready(function(){
    compile('#content');
})

This should remove all inline events from the selected node, and recreate them with jquery instead.

Jquery button click() function is not working

You need to use a delegated event handler, as the #add elements dynamically appended won't have the click event bound to them. Try this:

$("#buildyourform").on('click', "#add", function() {
    // your code...
});

Also, you can make your HTML strings easier to read by mixing line quotes:

var fieldWrapper = $('<div class="fieldwrapper" name="field' + intId + '" id="field' + intId + '"/>');

Or even supplying the attributes as an object:

var fieldWrapper = $('<div></div>', {
    'class': 'fieldwrapper',
    'name': 'field' + intId,
    'id': 'field' + intId
});

memcpy() vs memmove()

I'm not entirely surprised that your example exhibits no strange behaviour. Try copying str1 to str1+2 instead and see what happens then. (May not actually make a difference, depends on compiler/libraries.)

In general, memcpy is implemented in a simple (but fast) manner. Simplistically, it just loops over the data (in order), copying from one location to the other. This can result in the source being overwritten while it's being read.

Memmove does more work to ensure it handles the overlap correctly.

EDIT:

(Unfortunately, I can't find decent examples, but these will do). Contrast the memcpy and memmove implementations shown here. memcpy just loops, while memmove performs a test to determine which direction to loop in to avoid corrupting the data. These implementations are rather simple. Most high-performance implementations are more complicated (involving copying word-size blocks at a time rather than bytes).

How do I enable FFMPEG logging and where can I find the FFMPEG log file?

FFmpeg does not write to a specific log file, but rather sends its output to standard error. To capture that, you need to either

  • capture and parse it as it is generated
  • redirect standard error to a file and read that afterward the process is finished

Example for std error redirection:

ffmpeg -i myinput.avi {a-bunch-of-important-params} out.flv 2> /path/to/out.txt

Once the process is done, you can inspect out.txt.

It's a bit trickier to do the first option, but it is possible. (I've done it myself. So have others. Have a look around SO and the net for details.)

Highlight a word with jQuery

You can use my highlight plugin jQuiteLight, that can also work with regular expressions.

To install using npm type:

To install using bower type:

bower install jquitelight

Usage:

// for strings
$(".element").mark("query here");
// for RegExp
$(".element").mark(new RegExp(/query h[a-z]+/));

Secondary axis with twinx(): how to add to legend?

You can easily get what you want by adding the line in ax:

ax.plot([], [], '-r', label = 'temp')

or

ax.plot(np.nan, '-r', label = 'temp')

This would plot nothing but add a label to legend of ax.

I think this is a much easier way. It's not necessary to track lines automatically when you have only a few lines in the second axes, as fixing by hand like above would be quite easy. Anyway, it depends on what you need.

The whole code is as below:

import numpy as np
import matplotlib.pyplot as plt
from matplotlib import rc
rc('mathtext', default='regular')

time = np.arange(22.)
temp = 20*np.random.rand(22)
Swdown = 10*np.random.randn(22)+40
Rn = 40*np.random.rand(22)

fig = plt.figure()
ax = fig.add_subplot(111)
ax2 = ax.twinx()

#---------- look at below -----------

ax.plot(time, Swdown, '-', label = 'Swdown')
ax.plot(time, Rn, '-', label = 'Rn')

ax2.plot(time, temp, '-r')  # The true line in ax2
ax.plot(np.nan, '-r', label = 'temp') # Make an agent in ax

ax.legend(loc=0)

#---------------done-----------------

ax.grid()
ax.set_xlabel("Time (h)")
ax.set_ylabel(r"Radiation ($MJ\,m^{-2}\,d^{-1}$)")
ax2.set_ylabel(r"Temperature ($^\circ$C)")
ax2.set_ylim(0, 35)
ax.set_ylim(-20,100)
plt.show()

The plot is as below:

enter image description here

Update: add a better version:

ax.plot(np.nan, '-r', label = 'temp')

This will do nothing while plot(0, 0) may change the axis range.

One extra example for scatter

ax.scatter([], [], s=100, label = 'temp')  # Make an agent in ax
ax2.scatter(time, temp, s=10)  # The true scatter in ax2

ax.legend(loc=1, framealpha=1)

How do I remove files saying "old mode 100755 new mode 100644" from unstaged changes in Git?

I've encountered this problem when copying a git repo with working files from an old hard drive a couple times. The problem stems from the fact that the owner and permissions changed from the old drive/machine to the new one. The long and short of it is, run the following commands to straighten things out (thanks to this superuser answer):

sudo chmod -R -x . # remove the executable bit from all files

The former command will actually resolve the differences that git diff reported, but will revoke your ability to list the directories, so ls ./ fails with ls: .: Permission denied. To fix that:

sudo chmod -R +X . # add the executable bit only for directories

The bad news is that if you do have any files you want to keep executable, such as .sh scripts, you'll need to revert those. You can do that with the following command for each file:

chmod +x ./build.sh # where build.sh is the file you want to make executable again

Best way to store time (hh:mm) in a database

The saving of time in UTC format can help better as Kristen suggested.

Make sure that you are using 24 hr clock because there is no meridian AM or PM be used in UTC.

Example:

  • 4:12 AM - 0412
  • 10:12 AM - 1012
  • 2:28 PM - 1428
  • 11:56 PM - 2356

Its still preferrable to use standard four digit format.

Remove multiple whitespaces

simplified to one function:

    $text = trim($text);
    return $text;
}

How to convert an int to a hex string?

Let me add this one, because sometimes you just want the single digit representation

( x can be lower, 'x', or uppercase, 'X', the choice determines if the output letters are upper or lower.):

'{:x}'.format(15)
> f

And now with the new f'' format strings you can do:

f'{15:x}'
> f

To add 0 padding you can use 0>n:

f'{2034:0>4X}'
> 07F2

NOTE: the initial 'f' in f'{15:x}' is to signify a format string

Open files in 'rt' and 'wt' modes

t refers to the text mode. There is no difference between r and rt or w and wt since text mode is the default.

Documented here:

Character   Meaning
'r'     open for reading (default)
'w' open for writing, truncating the file first
'x' open for exclusive creation, failing if the file already exists
'a' open for writing, appending to the end of the file if it exists
'b'     binary mode
't'     text mode (default)
'+' open a disk file for updating (reading and writing)
'U'     universal newlines mode (deprecated)

The default mode is 'r' (open for reading text, synonym of 'rt').

What are .a and .so files?

Archive libraries (.a) are statically linked i.e when you compile your program with -c option in gcc. So, if there's any change in library, you need to compile and build your code again.

The advantage of .so (shared object) over .a library is that they are linked during the runtime i.e. after creation of your .o file -o option in gcc. So, if there's any change in .so file, you don't need to recompile your main program. But make sure that your main program is linked to the new .so file with ln command.

This will help you to build the .so files. http://www.yolinux.com/TUTORIALS/LibraryArchives-StaticAndDynamic.html

Hope this helps.

How do I replicate a \t tab space in HTML?

You can use this &emsp; or &ensp;

It works on Visual Studio

rm: cannot remove: Permission denied

The code says everything:

max@serv$ chmod 777 .

Okay, it doesn't say everything.

In UNIX and Linux, the ability to remove a file is not determined by the access bits of that file. It is determined by the access bits of the directory which contains the file.

Think of it this way -- deleting a file doesn't modify that file. You aren't writing to the file, so why should "w" on the file matter? Deleting a file requires editing the directory that points to the file, so you need "w" on the that directory.

How to load a resource from WEB-INF directory of a web archive

Use the getResourceAsStream() method on the ServletContext object, e.g.

EDITED: If you're inside a Servlet object, then call getServletContext(). If you're in JSP, use the predefined variable application.

How to determine total number of open/active connections in ms sql server 2005

MS SQL knowledge based - How to know open SQL database connection(s) and occupied on which host.

Using below query you will find list database, Host name and total number of open connection count, based on that you will have idea, which host has occupied SQL connection.

What would be the best method to code heading/title for <ul> or <ol>, Like we have <caption> in <table>?

h3 is absolutly a better solution than h2, h1 or h6 !

  1. You have to use specific level : if you're in a h1, use h2, if you're in a h5, use h6 (if you're in a h6... hum, use strong or em for exemple). It not a obligation but a question of accessibility (Here, green part).

  2. You don't have to give title to list... because this element it doesn't exist. So screen reader will not use something special.

Therefore, using Hn is probably one of the best solution, but surely not a specific level.

The data-toggle attributes in Twitter Bootstrap

So many answers have been given, but they don't get to the point. Let's fix this.

http://www.w3schools.com/bootstrap/bootstrap_ref_js_collapse.asp

To the point

  1. Any attribute starting with data- is not parsed by the HTML5 parser.
  2. Bootstrap uses the data-toggle attribute to create collapse functionality.

How to use: Only 2 Steps

  1. Add class="collapse" to the element #A you want to collapse.
  2. Add data-target="#A" and data-toggle="collapse".

Purpose: the data-toggle attribute allows us to create a control to collapse/expand a div (block) if we use Bootstrap.

OpenJDK availability for Windows OS

For Java 12 onwards, official General-Availability (GA) and Early-Access (EA) Windows 64-bit builds of the OpenJDK (GPL2 + Classpath Exception) from Oracle are available as tar.gz/zip from the JDK website.

If you prefer an installer, there are several distributions. There is a public Google Doc and Blog post by the Java Champions community which lists the best-supported OpenJDK distributions. Currently, these are:

Setting width and height

The below worked for me - but dont forget to put this in the "options" param.

var myChart = new Chart(ctx, {

options: {
    maintainAspectRatio: false,
    responsive:true,
    scales: {
        yAxes: [{

                beginAtZero: true
            }
        }]
    }
}
});

/usr/bin/codesign failed with exit code 1

I had the same problem but also listed in the error log was this: CSSMERR_TP_CERT_NOT_VALID_YET

Looking at the certificate in KeyChain showed a similar message. The problem was due to my Mac's system clock being set incorrectly. As soon as I set the correct region/time, the certificate was marked as valid and I could build and run my app on the iPhone

SQL Server: how to select records with specific date from datetime column

The easiest way is to convert to a date:

SELECT *
FROM dbo.LogRequests
WHERE cast(dateX as date) = '2014-05-09';

Often, such expressions preclude the use of an index. However, according to various sources on the web, the above is sargable (meaning it will use an index), such as this and this.

I would be inclined to use the following, just out of habit:

SELECT *
FROM dbo.LogRequests
WHERE dateX >= '2014-05-09' and dateX < '2014-05-10';

Read HttpContent in WebApi controller

You can keep your CONTACT parameter with the following approach:

using (var stream = new MemoryStream())
{
    var context = (HttpContextBase)Request.Properties["MS_HttpContext"];
    context.Request.InputStream.Seek(0, SeekOrigin.Begin);
    context.Request.InputStream.CopyTo(stream);
    string requestBody = Encoding.UTF8.GetString(stream.ToArray());
}

Returned for me the json representation of my parameter object, so I could use it for exception handling and logging.

GROUP BY without aggregate function

You're experiencing a strict requirement of the GROUP BY clause. Every column not in the group-by clause must have a function applied to reduce all records for the matching "group" to a single record (sum, max, min, etc).

If you list all queried (selected) columns in the GROUP BY clause, you are essentially requesting that duplicate records be excluded from the result set. That gives the same effect as SELECT DISTINCT which also eliminates duplicate rows from the result set.

Using Service to run background and create notification

Your error is in UpdaterServiceManager in onCreate and showNotification method.

You are trying to show notification from Service using Activity Context. Whereas Every Service has its own Context, just use the that. You don't need to pass a Service an Activity's Context.I don't see why you need a specific Activity's Context to show Notification.

Put your createNotification method in UpdateServiceManager.class. And remove CreateNotificationActivity not from Service.

You cannot display an application window/dialog through a Context that is not an Activity. Try passing a valid activity reference

Java Interfaces/Implementation naming convention

I like interface names that indicate what contract an interface describes, such as "Comparable" or "Serializable". Nouns like "Truck" don't really describe truck-ness -- what are the Abilities of a truck?

Regarding conventions: I have worked on projects where every interface starts with an "I"; while this is somewhat alien to Java conventions, it makes finding interfaces very easy. Apart from that, the "Impl" suffix is a reasonable default name.

How to get a specific column value from a DataTable in c#

The table normally contains multiple rows. Use a loop and use row.Field<string>(0) to access the value of each row.

foreach(DataRow row in dt.Rows)
{
    string file = row.Field<string>("File");
}

You can also access it via index:

foreach(DataRow row in dt.Rows)
{
    string file = row.Field<string>(0);
}

If you expect only one row, you can also use the indexer of DataRowCollection:

string file = dt.Rows[0].Field<string>(0);

Since this fails if the table is empty, use dt.Rows.Count to check if there is a row:

if(dt.Rows.Count > 0)
    file = dt.Rows[0].Field<string>(0);

What is the difference between __str__ and __repr__?

__str__ can be invoked on an object by calling str(obj) and should return a human readable string.

__repr__ can be invoked on an object by calling repr(obj) and should return internal object (object fields/attributes)

This example may help:

class C1:pass

class C2:
    def __str__(self):
        return str(f"{self.__class__.__name__} class str ")

class C3:
    def __repr__(self):
         return str(f"{self.__class__.__name__} class repr")

class C4:
    def __str__(self):
        return str(f"{self.__class__.__name__} class str ")
    def __repr__(self):
         return str(f"{self.__class__.__name__} class repr")

ci1 = C1()
ci2 = C2()
ci3 = C3()
ci4 = C4()

print(ci1)       #<__main__.C1 object at 0x0000024C44A80C18>
print(str(ci1))  #<__main__.C1 object at 0x0000024C44A80C18>
print(repr(ci1)) #<__main__.C1 object at 0x0000024C44A80C18>
print(ci2)       #C2 class str
print(str(ci2))  #C2 class str
print(repr(ci2)) #<__main__.C2 object at 0x0000024C44AE12E8>
print(ci3)       #C3 class repr
print(str(ci3))  #C3 class repr

How to convert file to base64 in JavaScript?

onInputChange(evt) {
    var tgt = evt.target || window.event.srcElement,
    files = tgt.files;
    if (FileReader && files && files.length) {
        var fr = new FileReader();
        fr.onload = function () {
            var base64 = fr.result;

Test a string for a substring

There are several other ways, besides using the in operator (easiest):

index()

>>> try:
...   "xxxxABCDyyyy".index("test")
... except ValueError:
...   print "not found"
... else:
...   print "found"
...
not found

find()

>>> if "xxxxABCDyyyy".find("ABCD") != -1:
...   print "found"
...
found

re

>>> import re
>>> if re.search("ABCD" , "xxxxABCDyyyy"):
...  print "found"
...
found

Passing HTML to template using Flask/Jinja2

For handling line-breaks specifically, I tried a number of options before finally settling for this:

{% set list1 = data.split('\n') %}
{% for item in list1 %}
{{ item }}
  {% if not loop.last %}
  <br/>
  {% endif %}
{% endfor %}

The nice thing about this approach is that it's compatible with the auto-escaping, leaving everything nice and safe. It can also be combined with filters, like urlize.

Of course it's similar to Helge's answer, but doesn't need a macro (relying instead on Jinja's built-in split function) and also doesn't add an unnecesssary <br/> after the last item.

Get the real width and height of an image with JavaScript? (in Safari/Chrome)

I use different approach, simply make Ajax call to server to get image size when image object is in use.

//make json call to server to get image size
$.getJSON("http://server/getimagesize.php",
{"src":url},
SetImageWidth
);

//callback function
function SetImageWidth(data) {

    var wrap = $("div#image_gallery #image_wrap");

    //remove height
     wrap.find("img").removeAttr('height');
    //remove height
     wrap.find("img").removeAttr('width');

    //set image width
    if (data.width > 635) {
        wrap.find("img").width(635);
    }
    else {
         wrap.find("img").width(data.width);
    }
}

and of course server side code:

<?php

$image_width = 0;
$image_height = 0;

if (isset ($_REQUEST['src']) && is_file($_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT'] . $_REQUEST['src'])) {

    $imageinfo = getimagesize($_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT'].$_REQUEST['src']);
    if ($imageinfo) {
       $image_width=  $imageinfo[0];
       $image_height= $imageinfo[1];
    }
}

$arr = array ('width'=>$image_width,'height'=>$image_height);

echo json_encode($arr);

?>

Raise an event whenever a property's value changed?

I use largely the same patterns as Aaronaught, but if you have a lot of properties it could be nice to use a little generic method magic to make your code a little more DRY

public class TheClass : INotifyPropertyChanged {
    private int _property1;
    private string _property2;
    private double _property3;

    protected virtual void OnPropertyChanged(PropertyChangedEventArgs e) {
        PropertyChangedEventHandler handler = PropertyChanged;
        if(handler != null) {
            handler(this, e);
        }
    }

    protected void SetPropertyField<T>(string propertyName, ref T field, T newValue) {
        if(!EqualityComparer<T>.Default.Equals(field, newValue)) {
            field = newValue;
            OnPropertyChanged(new PropertyChangedEventArgs(propertyName));
        }
    }

    public int Property1 {
        get { return _property1; }
        set { SetPropertyField("Property1", ref _property1, value); }
    }
    public string Property2 {
        get { return _property2; }
        set { SetPropertyField("Property2", ref _property2, value); }
    }
    public double Property3 {
        get { return _property3; }
        set { SetPropertyField("Property3", ref _property3, value); }
    }

    #region INotifyPropertyChanged Members

    public event PropertyChangedEventHandler PropertyChanged;

    #endregion
}

Usually I also make the OnPropertyChanged method virtual to allow sub-classes to override it to catch property changes.

ASP.NET MVC 3 Razor: Include JavaScript file in the head tag

You can use Named Sections.

_Layout.cshtml

<head>
    <script type="text/javascript" src="@Url.Content("/Scripts/jquery-1.6.2.min.js")"></script>
    @RenderSection("JavaScript", required: false)
</head>

_SomeView.cshtml

@section JavaScript
{
   <script type="text/javascript" src="@Url.Content("/Scripts/SomeScript.js")"></script>
   <script type="text/javascript" src="@Url.Content("/Scripts/AnotherScript.js")"></script>
}

How do I compare two columns for equality in SQL Server?

A solution avoiding CASE WHEN is to use COALESCE.

SELECT
    t1.Col2 AS t1Col2,
    t2.Col2 AS t2Col2,
    COALESCE(NULLIF(t1.Col2, t2.Col2),NULLIF(t2.Col2, t1.Col2)) as NULL_IF_SAME
 FROM @t1 AS t1
JOIN @t2 AS t2 ON t1.ColID = t2.ColID

NULL_IF_SAME column will give NULL for all rows where t1.col2 = t2.col2 (including NULL). Though this is not more readable than CASE WHEN expression, it is ANSI SQL.

Just for the sake of fun, if one wants to have boolean bit values of 0 and 1 (though it is not very readable, hence not recommended), one can use (which works for all datatypes):

1/ISNULL(LEN(COALESCE(NULLIF(t1.Col2, t2.Col2),NULLIF(t2.Col2, t1.Col2)))+2,1) as BOOL_BIT_SAME.

Now if you have one of the numeric data types and want bits, in the above LEN function converts to string first which may be problematic,so instead this should work:

1/(CAST(ISNULL(ABS(COALESCE(NULLIF(t1.Col2, t2.Col2),NULLIF(t2.Col2, t1.Col2)))+1,0)as bit)+1) as FAST_BOOL_BIT_SAME_NUMERIC

Above will work for Integers without CAST.

NOTE: also in SQLServer 2012, we have IIF function.

How to get distinct results in hibernate with joins and row-based limiting (paging)?

You can achieve the desired result by requesting a list of distinct ids instead of a list of distinct hydrated objects.

Simply add this to your criteria:

criteria.setProjection(Projections.distinct(Projections.property("id")));

Now you'll get the correct number of results according to your row-based limiting. The reason this works is because the projection will perform the distinctness check as part of the sql query, instead of what a ResultTransformer does which is to filter the results for distinctness after the sql query has been performed.

Worth noting is that instead of getting a list of objects, you will now get a list of ids, which you can use to hydrate objects from hibernate later.

Laravel Password & Password_Confirmation Validation

It should be enough to do:

$this->validate($request, [
    'password' => 'sometimes,min:6,confirmed,required_with:password_confirmed',
]);

Make password optional, but if present requires a password_confirmation that matches, also make password required only if password_confirmed is present

htaccess - How to force the client's browser to clear the cache?

You can tell the browser never cache your site by pasting following code in the header

<meta http-equiv="Cache-Control" content="no-cache, no-store, must-revalidate" />
<meta http-equiv="Pragma" content="no-cache" />
<meta http-equiv="Expires" content="0" />

And to prevent js, css cache, you could use tool to minify and obfuscate the scripts which should generate a random file name every time. That would force the browser to reload them from server too.

Hopefully, that helps.

How do I check if an integer is even or odd?

Here is an answer in Java:

public static boolean isEven (Integer Number) {
    Pattern number = Pattern.compile("^.*?(?:[02]|8|(?:6|4))$");
    String num = Number.toString(Number);
    Boolean numbr = new Boolean(number.matcher(num).matches());
    return numbr.booleanValue();
}

Is it possible to have SSL certificate for IP address, not domain name?

According to this answer, it is possible, but rarely used.

As for how to get it: I would tend to simply try and order one with the provider of your choice, and enter the IP address instead of a domain during the ordering process.

However, running a site on an IP address to avoid the DNS lookup sounds awfully like unnecessary micro-optimization to me. You will save a few milliseconds at best, and that is per visit, as DNS results are cached on multiple levels.

I don't think your idea makes sense from an optimization viewpoint.

which then gives you the graph:

How to create a zip file in Java

You have mainly to create two functions. First is writeToZipFile() and second is createZipfileForOutPut .... and then call the createZipfileForOutPut('file name of .zip')` …

 public static void writeToZipFile(String path, ZipOutputStream zipStream)
        throws FileNotFoundException, IOException {

    System.out.println("Writing file : '" + path + "' to zip file");

    File aFile = new File(path);
    FileInputStream fis = new FileInputStream(aFile);
    ZipEntry zipEntry = new ZipEntry(path);
    zipStream.putNextEntry(zipEntry);

    byte[] bytes = new byte[1024];
    int length;
    while ((length = fis.read(bytes)) >= 0) {
        zipStream.write(bytes, 0, length);
    }

    zipStream.closeEntry();
    fis.close();
}

public static void createZipfileForOutPut(String filename) {
    String home = System.getProperty("user.home");
   // File directory = new File(home + "/Documents/" + "AutomationReport");
    File directory = new File("AutomationReport");
    if (!directory.exists()) {
        directory.mkdir();
    }
    try {
        FileOutputStream fos = new FileOutputStream("Path to your destination" + filename + ".zip");
        ZipOutputStream zos = new ZipOutputStream(fos);

        writeToZipFile("Path to file which you want to compress / zip", zos);

        zos.close();
        fos.close();
    } catch (FileNotFoundException e) {
        e.printStackTrace();
    } catch (IOException e) {
        e.printStackTrace();
    }

Ruby's File.open gives "No such file or directory - text.txt (Errno::ENOENT)" error

Ditto Casper's answer:

puts Dir.pwd

As soon as you know current working directory, specify the file path relatively to that directory.

For example, if your working directory is project root, you can open a file under it directly like this

json_file = File.read(myfile.json)

How to specify the actual x axis values to plot as x axis ticks in R

Take a closer look at the ?axis documentation. If you look at the description of the labels argument, you'll see that it is:

"a logical value specifying whether (numerical) annotations are
to be made at the tickmarks,"

So, just change it to true, and you'll get your tick labels.

x <- seq(10,200,10)
y <- runif(x)
plot(x,y,xaxt='n')
axis(side = 1, at = x,labels = T)
# Since TRUE is the default for labels, you can just use axis(side=1,at=x)

Be careful that if you don't stretch your window width, then R might not be able to write all your labels in. Play with the window width and you'll see what I mean.

It's too bad that you had such trouble finding documentation! What were your search terms? Try typing r axis into Google, and the first link you will get is that Quick R page that I mentioned earlier. Scroll down to "Axes", and you'll get a very nice little guide on how to do it. You should probably check there first for any plotting questions, it will be faster than waiting for a SO reply.

Change WPF controls from a non-main thread using Dispatcher.Invoke

japf has answer it correctly. Just in case if you are looking at multi-line actions, you can write as below.

Application.Current.Dispatcher.BeginInvoke(
  DispatcherPriority.Background,
  new Action(() => {
    this.progressBar.Value = 50;
  }));

Information for other users who want to know about performance:

If your code NEED to be written for high performance, you can first check if the invoke is required by using CheckAccess flag.

if(Application.Current.Dispatcher.CheckAccess())
{
    this.progressBar.Value = 50;
}
else
{
    Application.Current.Dispatcher.BeginInvoke(
      DispatcherPriority.Background,
      new Action(() => {
        this.progressBar.Value = 50;
      }));
}

Note that method CheckAccess() is hidden from Visual Studio 2015 so just write it without expecting intellisense to show it up. Note that CheckAccess has overhead on performance (overhead in few nanoseconds). It's only better when you want to save that microsecond required to perform the 'invoke' at any cost. Also, there is always option to create two methods (on with invoke, and other without) when calling method is sure if it's in UI Thread or not. It's only rarest of rare case when you should be looking at this aspect of dispatcher.

JavaScript for handling Tab Key press

Given this piece of HTML code:

<a href='https://facebook.com/'>Facebook</a>
<a href='https://google.ca/'>Google</a>
<input type='text' placeholder='an input box'>

We can use this JavaScript:

function checkTabPress(e) {
    'use strict';
    var ele = document.activeElement;

    if (e.keyCode === 9 && ele.nodeName.toLowerCase() === 'a') {
        console.log(ele.href);
    }
}

document.addEventListener('keyup', function (e) {
    checkTabPress(e);
}, false);

I have bound an event listener to the document element for the keyUp event, which triggers a function to check if the Tab key was pressed (or technically, released).

The function checks the currently focused element and whether the NodeName is a. If so, it enters the if block and, in my case, writes the value of the href property to the JavaScript console.

How do I migrate an SVN repository with history to a new Git repository?

SubGit (vs Blue Screen of Death)

subgit import --svn-url url://svn.serv/Bla/Bla  directory/path/Local.git.Repo

It's all.

+ To update from SVN, a Git repository created by the first command.

subgit import  directory/path/Local.git.Repo

I used a way to migrate to Git instantly for a huge repository.
Of course you need some preparation.
But you may don't stop development process, at all.

Here is my way.

My solution looks like:

  • Migrate SVN to a Git repository
  • Update the Git repository just before team's switching to.

Migration takes a lot of time for a big SVN repository.
But updating of the completed migration just seconds.

Of course I'm using SubGit, mama. git-svn makes me Blue Screen of Death. Just constantly. And git-svn is boring me with Git's "filename too long" fatal error.

STEPS

1. Download SubGit

2. Prepare migrate and updating commands.

Let's say we do it for Windows (it's trivial to port to Linux).
In a SubGit's installation bin directory (subgit-2.X.X\bin), create two .bat files.

Content of a file/command for the migration:

start    subgit import --svn-url url://svn.serv/Bla/Bla  directory/path/Local.git.Repo

The "start" command is optional here (Windows). It'll allow to see errors on start and left a shell opened after completion of the SubGit.

You may add here additional parameters similar to git-svn. I'm using only --default-domain myCompanyDomain.com to fix the domain of the email address of SVN authors.
I have the standard SVN repository's structure (trunk/branches/tags) and we didn't have troubles with "authors mapping". So I'm doing nothing any more.

(If you want to migrate tags like branches or your SVN have multiple branches/tags folders you may consider to use the more verbose SubGit approach)

Tip 1: Use --minimal-revision YourSvnRevNumber to see fast how things boils out (some kind of a debugging). Especially useful is to see resolved author names or emails.
Or to limit the migration history depth.

Tip 2: Migration may be interrupted (Ctrl + C) and restored by running of the next updating command/file.
I don't advise doing this for big repositories. I have received "Out of memory Java+Windows exception".

Tip 3: Better to create a copy of your result bare repository.

Content of a file/command for updating:

start    subgit import  directory/path/Local.git.Repo

You may run it any amount of times when you want to obtain the last team's commits to your Git repository.

Warning! Don't touch your bare repository (creation of branches for example).
You'll take the next fatal error:

Unrecoverable error: are out of sync and cannot be synced ... Translating Subversion revisions to Git commits...

3. Run the first command/file. It'll take a loooong time for a big repository. 30 hours for my humble repository.

It's all.
You may update your Git repository from SVN at any time any amount of times by running the second file/command. And before switching of your development team to Git.
It'll take just seconds.

There's one more useful task.

Push your local Git repository to a remote Git repository

Is it your case? Let's proceed.

  1. Configure your remotes

Run:

$ git remote add origin url://your/repo.git
  1. Prepare to initial send of your huge local Git repository to a remote repository

By default your Git can't send big chunks. fatal: The remote end hung up unexpectedly

Let's run for it:

git config --global http.postBuffer 1073741824

524288000 - 500 MB 1073741824 - 1 GB, etc.

Fix your local certificate troubles. If your git-server uses a broken certificate.

I have disabled certificates.

Also your Git server may have a request amount limitations needing to be corrected.

  1. Push all migration to the team's remote Git repository.

Run with a local Git:

git push origin --mirror

(git push origin '*:*' for old Git versions)

If you get the following: error: cannot spawn git: No such file or directory... For me the full recreation of my repository solves this error (30 hours). You can try the next commands

git push origin --all
git push origin --tags

Or try to reinstall Git (useless for me). Or you may create branches from all you tags and push them. Or, or, or...

What is the difference between XAMPP or WAMP Server & IIS?

WAMP stands for Windows,Apache,Mysql,Php

XAMPP stands for X-os,Apache,Mysql,Php,Perl. (x-os means it can use for any operating system)

Advantages of XAMPP:

  • It is cross-platform software

  • It possesses many other essential modules such as phpMyAdmin, OpenSSL, MediaWiki, WordPress, Joomla and more.

  • it is easy to configure and use.

Advantages of WAMP:

  • It is easy to Use. (Changing Configuration)

  • WAMP is Available for both 64 bit and 32-bit system.

if you are running projects which have specific version requirements WAMP is better choice because you can switch between multiple versions. for example 7x and PHP 5x or Magento2.2.4 won't work on php7.2 but Magento2.3.needs php7.2 or up to work.

How to escape a single quote inside awk

This maybe what you're looking for:

awk 'BEGIN {FS=" ";} {printf "'\''%s'\'' ", $1}'

That is, with '\'' you close the opening ', then print a literal ' by escaping it and finally open the ' again.

Add a auto increment primary key to existing table in oracle

You can use the Oracle Data Modeler to create auto incrementing surrogate keys.

Step 1. - Create a Relational Diagram

You can first create a Logical Diagram and Engineer to create the Relational Diagram or you can straightaway create the Relational Diagram.

Add the entity (table) that required to have auto incremented PK, select the type of the PK as Integer.

Step 2. - Edit PK Column Property

Get the properties of the PK column. You can double click the name of the column or click on the 'Properties' button.

Column Properties dialog box appears.

Select the General Tab (Default Selection for the first time). Then select both the 'Auto Increment' and 'Identity Column' check boxes.

Step 3. - Additional Information

Additional information relating to the auto increment can be specified by selecting the 'Auto Increment' tab.

  • Start With
  • Increment By
  • Min Value
  • Max Value
  • Cycle
  • Disable Cache
  • Order
  • Sequence Name
  • Trigger Name
  • Generate Trigger

It is usually a good idea to mention the sequence name, so that it will be useful in PL/SQL.

Click OK (Apply) to the Column Properties dialog box.

Click OK (Apply) to the Table Properties dialog box.

Table appears in the Relational Diagram.

How can I make Java print quotes, like "Hello"?

There are two easy methods:

  1. Use backslash \ before double quotes.
  2. Use two single quotes instead of double quotes like '' instead of "

For example:

System.out.println("\"Hello\"");
System.out.println("''Hello''");

jquery animate .css

If you are needing to use CSS with the jQuery .animate() function, you can use set the duration.

$("#my_image").css({
    'left':'1000px',
    6000, ''
});

We have the duration property set to 6000.

This will set the time in thousandth of seconds: 6 seconds.

After the duration our next property "easing" changes how our CSS happens.

We have our positioning set to absolute.

There are two default ones to the absolute function: 'linear' and 'swing'.

In this example I am using linear.

It allows for it to use a even pace.

The other 'swing' allows for a exponential speed increase.

There are a bunch of really cool properties to use with animate like bounce, etc.

$(document).ready(function(){
    $("#my_image").css({
        'height': '100px',
        'width':'100px',
        'background-color':'#0000EE',
        'position':'absolute'
    });// property than value

    $("#my_image").animate({
        'left':'1000px'
    },6000, 'linear', function(){
        alert("Done Animating");
    });
});

Easiest way to compare arrays in C#

I was looking to determine if two sets had equivalent contents, in any order. That meant that, for each element in set A there were equal numbers of elements with that value in both sets. I wanted to account for duplicates (so {1,2,2,3} and {1,2,3,3} should not be considered "the same").

This is what I came up with (note that IsNullOrEmpty is another static extension method that returns true if the enumerable is null or has 0 elements):

    public static bool HasSameContentsAs<T>(this IEnumerable<T> source, IEnumerable<T> target)
        where T : IComparable
    {
        //If our source is null or empty, then it's just a matter of whether or not the target is too
        if (source.IsNullOrEmpty())
            return target.IsNullOrEmpty();

        //Otherwise, if the target is null/emtpy, they can't be equal
        if (target.IsNullOrEmpty())
            return false;

        //Neither is null or empty, so we'll compare contents. To account for multiples of
        //a given value (ex. 1,2,2,3 and 1,1,2,3 are not equal) we'll group the first set
        foreach (var group in source.GroupBy(s => s))
        {
            //If there are a different number of elements in the target set, they don't match
            if (target.Count(t => t.Equals(group.Key)) != group.Count())
                return false;
        }

        //If we got this far, they have the same contents
        return true;
    }

Is the Javascript date object always one day off?

The following worked for me -

    var doo = new Date("2011-09-24").format("m/d/yyyy");

Correct way of using log4net (logger naming)

Instead of naming my invoking class, I started using the following:

private static readonly ILog log = LogManager.GetLogger(System.Reflection.MethodBase.GetCurrentMethod().DeclaringType);

In this way, I can use the same line of code in every class that uses log4net without having to remember to change code when I copy and paste. Alternatively, i could create a logging class, and have every other class inherit from my logging class.

jQuery textbox change event

I have found that this works:

$(document).ready(function(){
    $('textarea').bind('input propertychange', function() {
        //do your update here
    }

})

What are passive event listeners?

Passive event listeners are an emerging web standard, new feature shipped in Chrome 51 that provide a major potential boost to scroll performance. Chrome Release Notes.

It enables developers to opt-in to better scroll performance by eliminating the need for scrolling to block on touch and wheel event listeners.

Problem: All modern browsers have a threaded scrolling feature to permit scrolling to run smoothly even when expensive JavaScript is running, but this optimization is partially defeated by the need to wait for the results of any touchstart and touchmove handlers, which may prevent the scroll entirely by calling preventDefault() on the event.

Solution: {passive: true}

By marking a touch or wheel listener as passive, the developer is promising the handler won't call preventDefault to disable scrolling. This frees the browser up to respond to scrolling immediately without waiting for JavaScript, thus ensuring a reliably smooth scrolling experience for the user.

document.addEventListener("touchstart", function(e) {
    console.log(e.defaultPrevented);  // will be false
    e.preventDefault(); // does nothing since the listener is passive
    console.log(e.defaultPrevented);  // still false
}, Modernizr.passiveeventlisteners ? {passive: true} : false);

How to print to console in pytest?

I originally came in here to find how to make PyTest print in VSCode's console while running/debugging the unit test from there. This can be done with the following launch.json configuration. Given .venv the virtual environment folder.

Zero-pad digits in string

There's also str_pad

<?php

echo str_pad($input, 10);                      // produces "Alien     "
echo str_pad($input, 10, "-=", STR_PAD_LEFT);  // produces "-=-=-Alien"

Best way to check if column returns a null value (from database to .net application)

Use DBNull.Value.Equals on the object without converting it to a string.

Here's an example:

   if (! DBNull.Value.Equals(row[fieldName]))
   {
      //not null
   }
   else
   {
      //null
   }

vuetify center items into v-flex

wrap button inside <div class="text-xs-center">

<div class="text-xs-center">
  <v-btn primary>
    Signup
  </v-btn>
</div>

Dev uses it in his examples.

For centering buttons in v-card-actions we can add class="justify-center" (note in v2 class is text-center (so without xs):

<v-card-actions class="justify-center">
  <v-btn>
    Signup
  </v-btn>
</v-card-actions>

AngularJS: How do I manually set input to $valid in controller?

The answers above didn't help me solve my problem. After a long search I bumped into this partial solution.

$scope.myForm.inputName.$setValidity('required', false);

How do I delete everything below row X in VBA/Excel?

Another option is Sheet1.Rows(x & ":" & Sheet1.Rows.Count).ClearContents (or .Clear). The reason you might want to use this method instead of .Delete is because any cells with dependencies in the deleted range (e.g. formulas that refer to those cells, even if empty) will end up showing #REF. This method will preserve formula references to the cleared cells.

Spring Boot Configure and Use Two DataSources

@Bean
@ConfigurationProperties(prefix="spring.secondDatasource")
public DataSource secondaryDataSource() {

How to upsert (update or insert) in SQL Server 2005

Try to check for existence:

IF NOT EXISTS (SELECT * FROM dbo.Employee WHERE ID = @SomeID)

    INSERT INTO dbo.Employee(Col1, ..., ColN)
    VALUES(Val1, .., ValN)

ELSE

    UPDATE dbo.Employee
    SET Col1 = Val1, Col2 = Val2, ...., ColN = ValN
    WHERE ID = @SomeID

You could easily wrap this into a stored procedure and just call that stored procedure from the outside (e.g. from a programming language like C# or whatever you're using).

Update: either you can just write this entire statement in one long string (doable - but not really very useful) - or you can wrap it into a stored procedure:

CREATE PROCEDURE dbo.InsertOrUpdateEmployee
       @ID INT,
       @Name VARCHAR(50),
       @ItemName VARCHAR(50),
       @ItemCatName VARCHAR(50),
       @ItemQty DECIMAL(15,2)
AS BEGIN
    IF NOT EXISTS (SELECT * FROM dbo.Table1 WHERE ID = @ID)
       INSERT INTO dbo.Table1(ID, Name, ItemName, ItemCatName, ItemQty)
       VALUES(@ID, @Name, @ItemName, @ItemCatName, @ItemQty)
    ELSE
       UPDATE dbo.Table1
       SET Name = @Name,
           ItemName = @ItemName,
           ItemCatName = @ItemCatName,
           ItemQty = @ItemQty
       WHERE ID = @ID
END

and then just call that stored procedure from your ADO.NET code

Store boolean value in SQLite

But,if you want to store a bunch of them you could bit-shift them and store them all as one int, a little like unix file permissions/modes.

For mode 755 for instance, each digit refers to a different class of users: owner, group, public. Within each digit 4 is read, 2 is write, 1 is execute so 7 is all of them like binary 111. 5 is read and execute so 101. Make up your own encoding scheme.

I'm just writing something for storing TV schedule data from Schedules Direct and I have the binary or yes/no fields: stereo, hdtv, new, ei, close captioned, dolby, sap in Spanish, season premiere. So 7 bits, or an integer with a maximum of 127. One character really.

A C example from what I'm working on now. has() is a function that returns 1 if the 2nd string is in the first one. inp is the input string to this function. misc is an unsigned char initialized to 0.

if (has(inp,"sap='Spanish'") > 0)
  misc += 1;
if (has(inp,"stereo='true'") > 0)
  misc +=2;
if (has(inp,"ei='true'") > 0)
  misc +=4;
if (has(inp,"closeCaptioned='true'") > 0)
  misc += 8;
if (has(inp,"dolby=") > 0)
  misc += 16;
if (has(inp,"new='true'") > 0)
  misc += 32;
if (has(inp,"premier_finale='") > 0)
  misc += 64;
if (has(inp,"hdtv='true'") > 0)
  misc += 128;

So I'm storing 7 booleans in one integer with room for more.

merge one local branch into another local branch

Just in case you arrived here because you copied a branch name from Github, note that a remote branch is not automatically also a local branch, so a merge will not work and give the "not something we can merge" error.

In that case, you have two options:

git checkout [branchYouWantToMergeInto]
git merge origin/[branchYouWantToMerge]

or

# this creates a local branch
git checkout [branchYouWantToMerge]

git checkout [branchYouWantToMergeInto]
git merge [branchYouWantToMerge]

Pandas sum by groupby, but exclude certain columns

The agg function will do this for you. Pass the columns and function as a dict with column, output:

df.groupby(['Country', 'Item_Code']).agg({'Y1961': np.sum, 'Y1962': [np.sum, np.mean]})  # Added example for two output columns from a single input column

This will display only the group by columns, and the specified aggregate columns. In this example I included two agg functions applied to 'Y1962'.

To get exactly what you hoped to see, included the other columns in the group by, and apply sums to the Y variables in the frame:

df.groupby(['Code', 'Country', 'Item_Code', 'Item', 'Ele_Code', 'Unit']).agg({'Y1961': np.sum, 'Y1962': np.sum, 'Y1963': np.sum})

How do you merge two Git repositories?

The submodule approach is good if you want to maintain the project separately. However, if you really want to merge both projects into the same repository, then you have a bit more work to do.

The first thing would be to use git filter-branch to rewrite the names of everything in the second repository to be in the subdirectory where you would like them to end up. So instead of foo.c, bar.html, you would have projb/foo.c and projb/bar.html.

Then, you should be able to do something like the following:

git remote add projb [wherever]
git pull projb

The git pull will do a git fetch followed by a git merge. There should be no conflicts, if the repository you're pulling to does not yet have a projb/ directory.

Further searching indicates that something similar was done to merge gitk into git. Junio C Hamano writes about it here: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg03395.html

calling Jquery function from javascript

Yes you can (this is how I understand the original question). Here is how I did it. Just tie it into outside context. For example:

//javascript

my_function = null;

//jquery
 $(function() {

        function my_fun(){
               /.. some operations ../
        }
        my_function = my_fun;
 })

 //just js
 function js_fun () {
       my_function(); //== call jquery function - just Reference is globally defined not function itself
}

I encountered this same problem when trying to access methods of the object, that was instantiated on DOM object ready only. Works. My example:

MyControl.prototype = {
   init:   function {
        // init something
   }
   update: function () {
           // something useful, like updating the list items of control or etc.
   }
}

MyCtrl = null;

// create jquery plug-in
$.fn.aControl = function () {
    var control = new MyControl(this);
    control.init();
    MyCtrl = control; // here is the trick
    return control;
}

now you can use something simple like:

function() = {
   MyCtrl.update(); // yes!
}

How to get the response of XMLHttpRequest?

The simple way to use XMLHttpRequest with pure JavaScript. You can set custom header but it's optional used based on requirement.

1. Using POST Method:

window.onload = function(){
    var request = new XMLHttpRequest();
    var params = "UID=CORS&name=CORS";

    request.onreadystatechange = function() {
        if (this.readyState == 4 && this.status == 200) {
            console.log(this.responseText);
        }
    };

    request.open('POST', 'https://www.example.com/api/createUser', true);
    request.setRequestHeader('api-key', 'your-api-key');
    request.setRequestHeader("Content-type", "application/x-www-form-urlencoded");
    request.send(params);
}

You can send params using POST method.

2. Using GET Method:

Find if current time falls in a time range

Try using the TimeRange object in C# to complete your goal.

TimeRange timeRange = new TimeRange();
timeRange = TimeRange.Parse("13:00-14:00");

bool IsNowInTheRange = timeRange.IsIn(DateTime.Now.TimeOfDay);
Console.Write(IsNowInTheRange);

Here is where I got that example of using TimeRange

How do I convert a float to an int in Objective C?

int myInt = (int) myFloat;

Worked fine for me.

int myInt = [[NSNumber numberWithFloat:myFloat] intValue];

Well, that is one option. If you like the detour, I could think of some using NSString. Why easy, when there is a complicated alternative? :)

What ports does RabbitMQ use?

Port Access

Firewalls and other security tools may prevent RabbitMQ from binding to a port. When that happens, RabbitMQ will fail to start. Make sure the following ports can be opened:

4369: epmd, a peer discovery service used by RabbitMQ nodes and CLI tools

5672, 5671: used by AMQP 0-9-1 and 1.0 clients without and with TLS

25672: used by Erlang distribution for inter-node and CLI tools communication and is allocated from a dynamic range (limited to a single port by default, computed as AMQP port + 20000). See networking guide for details.

15672: HTTP API clients and rabbitmqadmin (only if the management plugin is enabled)

61613, 61614: STOMP clients without and with TLS (only if the STOMP plugin is enabled)

1883, 8883: (MQTT clients without and with TLS, if the MQTT plugin is enabled

15674: STOMP-over-WebSockets clients (only if the Web STOMP plugin is enabled)

15675: MQTT-over-WebSockets clients (only if the Web MQTT plugin is enabled)

What are the differences and similarities between ffmpeg, libav, and avconv?

Confusing messages

These messages are rather misleading and understandably a source of confusion. Older Ubuntu versions used Libav which is a fork of the FFmpeg project. FFmpeg returned in Ubuntu 15.04 "Vivid Vervet".

The fork was basically a non-amicable result of conflicting personalities and development styles within the FFmpeg community. It is worth noting that the maintainer for Debian/Ubuntu switched from FFmpeg to Libav on his own accord due to being involved with the Libav fork.

The real ffmpeg vs the fake one

For a while both Libav and FFmpeg separately developed their own version of ffmpeg.

Libav then renamed their bizarro ffmpeg to avconv to distance themselves from the FFmpeg project. During the transition period the "not developed anymore" message was displayed to tell users to start using avconv instead of their counterfeit version of ffmpeg. This confused users into thinking that FFmpeg (the project) is dead, which is not true. A bad choice of words, but I can't imagine Libav not expecting such a response by general users.

This message was removed upstream when the fake "ffmpeg" was finally removed from the Libav source, but, depending on your version, it can still show up in Ubuntu because the Libav source Ubuntu uses is from the ffmpeg-to-avconv transition period.

In June 2012, the message was re-worded for the package libav - 4:0.8.3-0ubuntu0.12.04.1. Unfortunately the new "deprecated" message has caused additional user confusion.

Starting with Ubuntu 15.04 "Vivid Vervet", FFmpeg's ffmpeg is back in the repositories again.

libav vs Libav

To further complicate matters, Libav chose a name that was historically used by FFmpeg to refer to its libraries (libavcodec, libavformat, etc). For example the libav-user mailing list, for questions and discussions about using the FFmpeg libraries, is unrelated to the Libav project.

How to tell the difference

If you are using avconv then you are using Libav. If you are using ffmpeg you could be using FFmpeg or Libav. Refer to the first line in the console output to tell the difference: the copyright notice will either mention FFmpeg or Libav.

Secondly, the version numbering schemes differ. Each of the FFmpeg or Libav libraries contains a version.h header which shows a version number. FFmpeg will end in three digits, such as 57.67.100, and Libav will end in one digit such as 57.67.0. You can also view the library version numbers by running ffmpeg or avconv and viewing the console output.

If you want to use the real ffmpeg

Ubuntu 15.04 "Vivid Vervet" or newer

The real ffmpeg is in the repository, so you can install it with:

apt-get install ffmpeg

For older Ubuntu versions

Your options are:

These methods are non-intrusive, reversible, and will not interfere with the system or any repository packages.

Another possible option is to upgrade to Ubuntu 15.04 "Vivid Vervet" or newer and just use ffmpeg from the repository.
