Losing Session State

Had a problem on IIS 8 when retrieving Content via Ajax. The issue was that MaximumWorkerProcesses was set to 2 and Javascript opened 17 concurrent requests. That was more than the AppPool could handle and a new pool (without auth-data) was opened.

Solution was to Change MaximumWorkerProcesses to 0 in IIS -> Server -> Application Pools -> [myPool] -> Advanced Settings -> Process Model -> MaximumWorkerProcesses.

HttpContext.Current.Session is null when routing requests

Nice job! I've been having the exact same problem. Adding and removing the Session module worked perfectly for me too. It didn't however bring back by HttpContext.Current.User so I tried your little trick with the FormsAuth module and sure enough, that did it.

<remove name="FormsAuthentication" />
<add name="FormsAuthentication" type="System.Web.Security.FormsAuthenticationModule"/>

Shortest distance between a point and a line segment

In javascript using Geometry:

var a = { x:20, y:20};//start segment
var b = { x:40, y:30};//end segment
var c = { x:37, y:14};//point

// magnitude from a to c
var ac = Math.sqrt( Math.pow( ( a.x - c.x ), 2 ) + Math.pow( ( a.y - c.y ), 2) );
// magnitude from b to c
var bc = Math.sqrt( Math.pow( ( b.x - c.x ), 2 ) + Math.pow( ( b.y - c.y ), 2 ) );
// magnitude from a to b (base)
var ab = Math.sqrt( Math.pow( ( a.x - b.x ), 2 ) + Math.pow( ( a.y - b.y ), 2 ) );
 // perimeter of triangle
var p = ac + bc + ab;
 // area of the triangle
var area = Math.sqrt( p/2 * ( p/2 - ac) * ( p/2 - bc ) * ( p/2 - ab ) );
 // height of the triangle = distance
var h = ( area * 2 ) / ab;
console.log ("height: " + h);

Rendering React Components from Array of Objects

This is quite likely the simplest way to achieve what you are looking for.

In order to use this map function in this instance, we will have to pass a currentValue (always-required) parameter, as well an index (optional) parameter. In the below example, station is our currentValue, and x is our index.

station represents the current value of the object within the array as it is iterated over. x automatically increments; increasing by one each time a new object is mapped.

render () {
    return (
        <div>
            {stations.map((station, x) => (
                <div key={x}> {station} </div>
            ))}
        </div>
    );
}

What Thomas Valadez had answered, while it had provided the best/simplest method to render a component from an array of objects, it had failed to properly address the way in which you would assign a key during this process.

Submit button doesn't work

If you are not using any javascript/jquery for form validation, then a simple layout for your form would look like this.

within the body of your html document:

<form action="formHandler.php" name="yourForm" id="theForm" method="post">
    <input type="text" name="fname" id="fname" />
    <input type="submit" value="submit"/>
</form>

You need to ensure you have the submit button within the form tags, and an appropriate action assigned. Such as sending to a php file.

For a more direct answer, provide the code you are working with.

remove script tag from HTML content

I had been struggling with this question. I discovered you only really need one function. explode('>', $html); The single common denominator to any tag is < and >. Then after that it's usually quotation marks ( " ). You can extract information so easily once you find the common denominator. This is what I came up with:

$html = file_get_contents('http://some_page.html');

$h = explode('>', $html);

foreach($h as $k => $v){

    $v = trim($v);//clean it up a bit

    if(preg_match('/^(<script[.*]*)/ius', $v)){//my regex here might be questionable

        $counter = $k;//match opening tag and start counter for backtrace

        }elseif(preg_match('/([.*]*<\/script$)/ius', $v)){//but it gets the job done

            $script_length = $k - $counter;

            $counter = 0;

            for($i = $script_length; $i >= 0; $i--){
                $h[$k-$i] = '';//backtrace and clear everything in between
                }
            }
        }
for($i = 0; $i <= count($h); $i++){
    if($h[$i] != ''){
    $ht[$i] = $h[$i];//clean out the blanks so when we implode it works right.
        }
    }
$html = implode('>', $ht);//all scripts stripped.

echo $html;

I see this really only working for script tags because you will never have nested script tags. Of course, you can easily add more code that does the same check and gather nested tags.

I call it accordion coding. implode();explode(); are the easiest ways to get your logic flowing if you have a common denominator.

How to check if internet connection is present in Java?

How to save a spark DataFrame as csv on disk?

I had similar problem. I needed to write down csv file on driver while I was connect to cluster in client mode.

I wanted to reuse the same CSV parsing code as Apache Spark to avoid potential errors.

I checked spark-csv code and found code responsible for converting dataframe into raw csv RDD[String] in com.databricks.spark.csv.CsvSchemaRDD.

Sadly it is hardcoded with sc.textFile and the end of relevant method.

I copy-pasted that code and removed last lines with sc.textFile and returned RDD directly instead.

My code:

/*
  This is copypasta from com.databricks.spark.csv.CsvSchemaRDD
  Spark's code has perfect method converting Dataframe -> raw csv RDD[String]
  But in last lines of that method it's hardcoded against writing as text file -
  for our case we need RDD.

Android: Is it possible to display video thumbnails?

Using the class:

import android.provider.MediaStore.Video.Thumbnails;

We can get two preview thumbnail sizes from the video:

Thumbnails.MICRO_KIND for 96 x 96

Thumbnails.MINI_KIND for 512 x 384 px

This is a code example:

String filePath = "/sdcard/DCIM/Camera/my_video.mp4"; //change the location of your file!

ImageView imageview_mini = (ImageView)findViewById(R.id.thumbnail_mini);
ImageView imageview_micro = (ImageView)findViewById(R.id.thumbnail_micro);

Bitmap bmThumbnail;

//MICRO_KIND, size: 96 x 96 thumbnail
bmThumbnail = ThumbnailUtils.createVideoThumbnail(filePath, Thumbnails.MICRO_KIND);
imageview_micro.setImageBitmap(bmThumbnail);

// MINI_KIND, size: 512 x 384 thumbnail
bmThumbnail = ThumbnailUtils.createVideoThumbnail(filePath, Thumbnails.MINI_KIND);
imageview_mini.setImageBitmap(bmThumbnail);

'int' object has no attribute '__getitem__'

The error:

'int' object has no attribute '__getitem__'

means that you're attempting to apply the index operator [] on an int, not a list. So is col not a list, even when it should be? Let's start from that.

Look here:

col = [[0 for col in range(5)] for row in range(6)]

Use a different variable name inside, looks like the list comprehension overwrites the col variable during iteration. (Not during the iteration when you set col, but during the following ones.)

Can you remove elements from a std::list while iterating through it?

do while loop, it's flexable and fast and easy to read and write.

    {
        if ((*textRegion)->glyphs.empty())
        {
            m_pdfTextRegions.erase(textRegion);
            textRegion = m_pdfTextRegions.begin();
        }
        else
            textRegion++;

How to add data validation to a cell using VBA

Use this one:

Dim ws As Worksheet
Dim range1 As Range, rng As Range
'change Sheet1 to suit
Set ws = ThisWorkbook.Worksheets("Sheet1")

Set range1 = ws.Range("A1:A5")
Set rng = ws.Range("B1")

With rng.Validation
    .Delete 'delete previous validation
    .Add Type:=xlValidateList, AlertStyle:=xlValidAlertStop, _
        Formula1:="='" & ws.Name & "'!" & range1.Address
End With

Note that when you're using Dim range1, rng As range, only rng has type of Range, but range1 is Variant. That's why I'm using Dim range1 As Range, rng As Range.
About meaning of parameters you can read is MSDN, but in short:

  • Type:=xlValidateList means validation type, in that case you should select value from list
  • AlertStyle:=xlValidAlertStop specifies the icon used in message boxes displayed during validation. If user enters any value out of list, he/she would get error message.
  • in your original code, Operator:= xlBetween is odd. It can be used only if two formulas are provided for validation.
  • Formula1:="='" & ws.Name & "'!" & range1.Address for list data validation provides address of list with values (in format =Sheet!A1:A5)

How to perform Unwind segue programmatically?

Backwards compatible solution that will work for versions prior to ios6, for those interested:

        UIViewController *vc = [self.navigationController.viewControllers objectAtIndex:i];
        if ([vc isKindOfClass:vcClass]) {
            [self.navigationController popToViewController:vc animated:animated];
            return;

How do I find out what is hammering my SQL Server?

Run either of these a few second apart. You'll detect the high CPU connection. Or: stored CPU in a local variable, WAITFOR DELAY, compare stored and current CPU values

select * from master..sysprocesses
where status = 'runnable' --comment this out
order by CPU
desc

select * from master..sysprocesses
order by CPU
desc

May not be the most elegant but it'd effective and quick.

how to replace characters in hive?

select translate(description,'\\t','') from myTable;

Translates the input string by replacing the characters present in the from string with the corresponding characters in the to string. This is similar to the translate function in PostgreSQL. If any of the parameters to this UDF are NULL, the result is NULL as well. (Available as of Hive 0.10.0, for string types)

Char/varchar support added as of Hive 0.14.0

Styling a input type=number

UPDATE 17/03/2017

Original solution won't work anymore. The spinners are part of shadow dom. For now just to hide in chrome use:

_x000D_
_x000D_
input[type=number]::-webkit-inner-spin-button {_x000D_
  -webkit-appearance: none;_x000D_
}
_x000D_
<input type="number" />
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

or to always show:

_x000D_
_x000D_
input[type=number]::-webkit-inner-spin-button {_x000D_
  opacity: 1;_x000D_
}
_x000D_
<input type="number" />
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

You can try the following but keep in mind that works only for Chrome:

_x000D_
_x000D_
input[type=number]::-webkit-inner-spin-button { _x000D_
    -webkit-appearance: none;_x000D_
    cursor:pointer;_x000D_

How to zoom div content using jquery?

@Gadde - your answer was very helpful. Thank you! I needed a "Maps"-like zoom for a div and was able to produce the feel I needed with your post. My criteria included the need to have the click repeat and continue to zoom out/in with each click. Below is my final result.

    var currentZoom = 1.0;

    $(document).ready(function () {
        $('#btn_ZoomIn').click(
            function () {
                $('#divName').animate({ 'zoom': currentZoom += .1 }, 'slow');
            })
        $('#btn_ZoomOut').click(
            function () {
                $('#divName').animate({ 'zoom': currentZoom -= .1 }, 'slow');
            })
        $('#btn_ZoomReset').click(
            function () {
                currentZoom = 1.0
                $('#divName').animate({ 'zoom': 1 }, 'slow');
            })
    });

How do I use the new computeIfAbsent function?

Another example. When building a complex map of maps, the computeIfAbsent() method is a replacement for map's get() method. Through chaining of computeIfAbsent() calls together, missing containers are constructed on-the-fly by provided lambda expressions:

  // Stores regional movie ratings
  Map<String, Map<Integer, Set<String>>> regionalMovieRatings = new TreeMap<>();

  // This will throw NullPointerException!
  regionalMovieRatings.get("New York").get(5).add("Boyhood");

  // This will work
  regionalMovieRatings
    .computeIfAbsent("New York", region -> new TreeMap<>())
    .computeIfAbsent(5, rating -> new TreeSet<>())
    .add("Boyhood");

Get Specific Columns Using “With()” Function in Laravel Eloquent

So, similar to other solutions here is mine:

// For example you have this relation defined with "user()" method
public function user()
{
    return $this->belongsTo('User');
}
// Just make another one defined with "user_frontend()" method
public function user_frontend()
{
    return $this->belongsTo('User')->select(array('id', 'username'));
}

// Then use it later like this
$thing = new Thing();
$thing->with('user_frontend');

// This way, you get only id and username,
// and if you want all fields you can do this

$thing = new Thing();
$thing->with('user');

Should I use 'border: none' or 'border: 0'?

Using

border: none;

doesn't work in some versions of IE. IE9 is fine but in previous versions it displays the border even when the style is "none". I experienced this when using a print stylesheet where I didn't want borders on the input boxes.

border: 0;

seems to work fine in all browsers.

How to display HTML in TextView?

If you want to be able to configure it through xml without any modification in java code you may find this idea helpful. Simply you call init from constructor and set the text as html

public class HTMLTextView extends TextView {
    ... constructors calling init...
    private void init(){
       setText(Html.fromHtml(getText().toString()));
    }
}

xml:

<com.package.HTMLTextView
android:text="@string/about_item_1"/>

Invoking a PHP script from a MySQL trigger

The trigger is executed on the MySQL server, not on the PHP one (even if those are both on the same machine).

So, I would say this is not quite possible -- at least not simply.

Still, considering this entry from the MySQL FAQ on Triggers :

23.5.11: Can triggers call an external application through a UDF?

Yes. For example, a trigger could invoke the sys_exec() UDF available here: https://github.com/mysqludf/lib_mysqludf_sys#readme

So, there might be a way via an UDF function that would launch the php executable/script. Not that easy, but seems possible. ;-)

The server principal is not able to access the database under the current security context in SQL Server MS 2012

I encountered the same error while using Server Management Objects (SMO) in vb.net (I'm sure it's the same in C#)

Techie Joe's comment on the initial post was a useful warning that in shared hosting a lot of additional things are going on. It took a little time to figure out, but the code below shows how one has to be very specific in the way they access SQL databases. The 'server principal...' error seemed to show up whenever the SMO calls were not precisely specific in the shared hosting environment.

This first section of code was against a local SQL Express server and relied on simple Windows Authentication. All the code used in these samples are based on the SMO tutorial by Robert Kanasz in this Code Project website article:

  Dim conn2 = New ServerConnection()
  conn2.ServerInstance = "<local pc name>\SQLEXPRESS"
  Try
    Dim testConnection As New Server(conn2)
    Debug.WriteLine("Server: " + testConnection.Name)
    Debug.WriteLine("Edition: " + testConnection.Information.Edition)
    Debug.WriteLine(" ")

    For Each db2 As Database In testConnection.Databases
      Debug.Write(db2.Name & " - ")
      For Each fg As FileGroup In db2.FileGroups
        Debug.Write(fg.Name & " - ")
        For Each df As DataFile In fg.Files
          Debug.WriteLine(df.Name + " - " + df.FileName)
        Next
      Next
    Next
    conn2.Disconnect()

  Catch err As Exception
    Debug.WriteLine(err.Message)
  End Try

The code above finds the .mdf files for every database on the local SQLEXPRESS server just fine because authentication is handled by Windows and it is broad across all the databases.

In the following code there are 2 sections iterating for the .mdf files. In this case only the first iteration looking for a filegroup works, and it only finds a single file because the connection is to only a single database in the shared hosting environment.

The second iteration, which is a copy of the iteration that worked above, chokes immediately because the way it is written it tries to access the 1st database in the shared environment, which is not the one to which the User ID/Password apply, so the SQL server returns an authorization error in the form of the 'server principal...' error.

Dim sqlConnection1 As New System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection
sqlConnection1.ConnectionString = "connection string with User ID/Password to a specific database in a shared hosting system. This string will likely also include the Data Source and Initial Catalog parameters"
Dim conn1 As New ServerConnection(sqlConnection1)
Try
  Dim testConnection As New Server(conn1)
  Debug.WriteLine("Server: " + testConnection.Name)
  Debug.WriteLine("Edition: " + testConnection.Information.Edition)
  Debug.WriteLine(" ")

  Dim db2 = testConnection.Databases("the name of the database to which the User ID/Password in the connection string applies")
  For Each fg As FileGroup In db2.FileGroups
    Debug.Write(fg.Name & " - ")
    For Each df As DataFile In fg.Files
      Debug.WriteLine(df.Name + " - " + df.FileName)
    Next
  Next

  For Each db3 As Database In testConnection.Databases
    Debug.Write(db3.Name & " - ")
    For Each fg As FileGroup In db3.FileGroups
      Debug.Write(fg.Name & " - ")
      For Each df As DataFile In fg.Files
        Debug.WriteLine(df.Name + " - " + df.FileName)
      Next
    Next
  Next

  conn1.Disconnect()

Catch err As Exception
  Debug.WriteLine(err.Message)
End Try

In that second iteration loop, the code compiles fine, but because SMO wasn't setup to access precisely the correct database with the precise syntax, that attempt fails.

As I'm just learning SMO I thought other newbies might appreciate knowing there's also a more simple explanation for this error - we just coded it wrong.

A best way to do this right in Retrofit 2 is to add the logger interceptor as a networkInterceptor this will print out the network headers and your custom headers too. The important thing is to remember that interceptor work as a stack and be sure u add the logger at the end of all.

OkHttpClient.Builder builder = new OkHttpClient.Builder();
builder.addInterceptor(new MyCustomInterceptor());
builder.connectTimeout(60, TimeUnit.SECONDS);
builder.readTimeout(60, TimeUnit.SECONDS);
builder.writeTimeout(60, TimeUnit.SECONDS);
// important line here
builder.addNetworkInterceptor(LoggerInterceptor());

Angular and Typescript: Can't find names - Error: cannot find name

Angular 2 RC1 renamed the node_modules/angular2 directory to node_modules/angular.

If you're using a gulpfile to copy files to an output directory you probably still have node_modules/angular sitting in there which may be getting picked up by the compiler and confusing the hell out of itself.

So (carefully) wipe out what you have in node_modules that is for the beta versions, and also delete any old typings and re-run typings install.

What is the proper way to URL encode Unicode characters?

IRIs do not replace URIs, because only URIs (effectively, ASCII) are permissible in some contexts -- including HTTP.

Instead, you specify an IRI and it gets transformed into a URI when going out on the wire.

How to style input and submit button with CSS?

form element UI is somewhat controlled by browser and operating system, so it is not trivial to style them very reliably in a way that it would look the same in all common browser/OS combinations.

Instead, if you want something specific, I would recommend to use a library that provides you stylable form elements. uniform.js is one such library.

E: Unable to locate package mongodb-org

I faced same issue but fix it by the changing the package file section command. The whole step that i followed was:

At first try with this command: sudo apt-get install -y mongodb

This is the unofficial mongodb package provided by Ubuntu and it is not maintained by MongoDB and conflict with MongoDB’s offically supported packages.

If the above command not working then you can fix the issue by one of the bellow procedure:

#Step 1: Import the MongoDB public key
#In Ubuntu 18.*+, you may get invalid signatures. --recv value may need to be updated to EA312927.
#See here for more details on the invalid signature issue: [https://stackoverflow.com/questions/34733340/mongodb-gpg-invalid-signatures][1]

sudo apt-key adv --keyserver hkp://keyserver.ubuntu.com:80 --recv 7F0CEB10

#Step 2: Generate a file with the MongoDB repository url
echo 'deb http://downloads-distro.mongodb.org/repo/ubuntu-upstart dist 10gen' | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/mongodb.list

#Step 3: Refresh the local database with the packages
sudo apt-get update

#Step 4: Install the last stable MongoDB version and all the necessary packages on our system
sudo apt-get install mongodb-org

         #Or
# The unofficial mongodb package provided by Ubuntu is not maintained by MongoDB and conflict with MongoDB’s offically supported packages. Use the official MongoDB mongodb-org packages, which are kept up-to-date with the most recent major and minor MongoDB releases.
sudo apt-get install -y mongodb

Hope this will work for you also. You can follow this MongoDB

Update The above instruction will install mongodb 2.6 version, if you want to install latest version for Uubuntu 12.04 then just replace above step 2 and follow bellow instruction instead of that:

#Step 2: Generate a file with the MongoDB repository url
echo "deb http://repo.mongodb.org/apt/ubuntu trusty/mongodb-org/3.0 multiverse" | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/mongodb.list

If you are using Ubuntu 14.04 then use bellow step instead of above step 2

#Step 2: Generate a file with the MongoDB repository url
echo "deb http://repo.mongodb.org/apt/ubuntu trusty/mongodb-org/3.0 multiverse" | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/mongodb-org-3.0.list

How to set iPhone UIView z index?

IB and Swift

Given the flowing layout where yellow is the superview and red, green, and blue are sibling subviews of yellow,

views - red view on top

the goal is to move a subview (let's say green) to the top.

views - green view on top

In Interface Builder

In the Interface Builder all you need to do is drag the view you want showing on the top to the bottom of the list in the Documents Outline.

order of views in Interface Builder

Alternatively, you can select the view and then in the menu go to Editor > Arrange > Send to Front.

In Swift

There are a couple of different ways to do this programmatically.

Method 1

yellowView.bringSubviewToFront(greenView)
  • This method is the programmatic equivalent of the IB answer above.

  • It only works if the subviews are siblings of each other.

  • An array of the subviews is contained in yellowView.subviews. Here, bringSubviewToFront moves the greenView from index 0 to 2. This can be observed with

      print(yellowView.subviews.indexOf(greenView))

Method 2

greenView.layer.zPosition = 1
  • This method just moves the 3D position of the layer higher (closer to the user) on the z-axis. Since the default is 0 for all the other views, the result is that the greenView looks like it is on top. However, it still remains at index 0 of the yellowView.subviews array. This can cause some unexpected results, though, because things like tap events will still go first to the view with the highest index number. For that reason, it might be better to go with Method 1 above.
  • The zPosition could be set to CGFloat.greatestFiniteMagnitude (CGFloat(FLT_MAX) in older versions of Swift) to ensure that it is on top.

Incorrect syntax near ''

The error for me was that I read the SQL statement from a text file, and the text file was saved in the UTF-8 with BOM (byte order mark) format.

To solve this, I opened the file in Notepad++ and under Encoding, chose UTF-8. Alternatively you can remove the first three bytes of the file with a hex editor.

TABLOCK vs TABLOCKX

This is more of an example where TABLOCK did not work for me and TABLOCKX did.

I have 2 sessions, that both use the default (READ COMMITTED) isolation level:

Session 1 is an explicit transaction that will copy data from a linked server to a set of tables in a database, and takes a few seconds to run. [Example, it deletes Questions] Session 2 is an insert statement, that simply inserts rows into a table that Session 1 doesn't make changes to. [Example, it inserts Answers].

(In practice there are multiple sessions inserting multiple records into the table, simultaneously, while Session 1 is running its transaction).

Session 1 has to query the table Session 2 inserts into because it can't delete records that depend on entries that were added by Session 2. [Example: Delete questions that have not been answered].

So, while Session 1 is executing and Session 2 tries to insert, Session 2 loses in a deadlock every time.

So, a delete statement in Session 1 might look something like this: DELETE tblA FROM tblQ LEFT JOIN tblX on ... LEFT JOIN tblA a ON tblQ.Qid = tblA.Qid WHERE ... a.QId IS NULL and ...

The deadlock seems to be caused from contention between querying tblA while Session 2, [3, 4, 5, ..., n] try to insert into tblA.

In my case I could change the isolation level of Session 1's transaction to be SERIALIZABLE. When I did this: The transaction manager has disabled its support for remote/network transactions.

So, I could follow instructions in the accepted answer here to get around it: The transaction manager has disabled its support for remote/network transactions

But a) I wasn't comfortable with changing the isolation level to SERIALIZABLE in the first place- supposedly it degrades performance and may have other consequences I haven't considered, b) didn't understand why doing this suddenly caused the transaction to have a problem working across linked servers, and c) don't know what possible holes I might be opening up by enabling network access.

There seemed to be just 6 queries within a very large transaction that are causing the trouble.

So, I read about TABLOCK and TabLOCKX.

I wasn't crystal clear on the differences, and didn't know if either would work. But it seemed like it would. First I tried TABLOCK and it didn't seem to make any difference. The competing sessions generated the same deadlocks. Then I tried TABLOCKX, and no more deadlocks.

So, in six places, all I needed to do was add a WITH (TABLOCKX).

So, a delete statement in Session 1 might look something like this: DELETE tblA FROM tblQ q LEFT JOIN tblX x on ... LEFT JOIN tblA a WITH (TABLOCKX) ON tblQ.Qid = tblA.Qid WHERE ... a.QId IS NULL and ...

How to calculate the IP range when the IP address and the netmask is given?

I learned this shortcut from working at the network deployment position. It helped me so much, I figured I will share this secret with everyone. So far, I have not able to find an easier way online that I know of.

For example a network 192.115.103.64 /27, what is the range?

just remember that subnet mask is 0, 128, 192, 224, 240, 248, 252, 254, 255

255.255.255.255 11111111.11111111.11111111.11111111 /32

255.255.255.254 11111111.11111111.11111111.11111110 /31

255.255.255.252 11111111.11111111.11111111.11111100 /30

255.255.255.248 11111111.11111111.11111111.11111000 /29

255.255.255.240 11111111.11111111.11111111.11110000 /28

255.255.255.224 11111111.11111111.11111111.11100000 /27

255.255.255.192 11111111.11111111.11111111.11000000 /26

255.255.255.128 11111111.11111111.11111111.10000000 /25

255.255.255.0 11111111.11111111.11111111.00000000 /24

from /27 we know that (11111111.11111111.11111111.11100000). Counting from the left, it is the third number from the last octet, which equal 255.255.255.224 subnet mask. (Don't count 0, 0 is /24) so 128, 192, 224..etc

Here where the math comes in:

use the subnet mask - subnet mask of the previous listed subnet mask in this case 224-192=32

We know 192.115.103.64 is the network: 64 + 32 = 96 (the next network for /27)

which means we have .0 .32. 64. 96. 128. 160. 192. 224. (Can't use 256 because it is .255)

Here is the range 64 -- 96.

network is 64.

first host is 65.(first network +1)

Last host is 94. (broadcast -1)

broadcast is 95. (last network -1)

Is there a Pattern Matching Utility like GREP in Windows?

Plotting a fast Fourier transform in Python

The important thing about fft is that it can only be applied to data in which the timestamp is uniform (i.e. uniform sampling in time, like what you have shown above).

In case of non-uniform sampling, please use a function for fitting the data. There are several tutorials and functions to choose from:

https://github.com/tiagopereira/python_tips/wiki/Scipy%3A-curve-fitting http://docs.scipy.org/doc/numpy/reference/generated/numpy.polyfit.html

If fitting is not an option, you can directly use some form of interpolation to interpolate data to a uniform sampling:

https://docs.scipy.org/doc/scipy-0.14.0/reference/tutorial/interpolate.html

When you have uniform samples, you will only have to wory about the time delta (t[1] - t[0]) of your samples. In this case, you can directly use the fft functions

Y    = numpy.fft.fft(y)
freq = numpy.fft.fftfreq(len(y), t[1] - t[0])

pylab.figure()
pylab.plot( freq, numpy.abs(Y) )
pylab.figure()
pylab.plot(freq, numpy.angle(Y) )
pylab.show()

This should solve your problem.

Regular expression for number with length of 4, 5 or 6

If the language you use accepts {}, you can use [0-9]{4,6}.

If not, you'll have to use [0-9][0-9][0-9][0-9][0-9]?[0-9]?.

Could not reliably determine the server's fully qualified domain name

FQDN means the resolved name over DNS. It should be like "server-name.search-domain".

The warning you get just provides a notice that httpd can not find a FQDN, so it might not work right to handle a name-based virtual host. So make sure the expected FQDN is registered in your DNS server, or manually add the entry in /etc/hosts which is prior to hitting DNS.

How to catch exception correctly from http.request()?

Perhaps you can try adding this in your imports:

import 'rxjs/add/operator/catch';

You can also do:

return this.http.request(request)
  .map(res => res.json())
  .subscribe(
    data => console.log(data),
    err => console.log(err),
    () => console.log('yay')
  );

Per comments:

EXCEPTION: TypeError: Observable_1.Observable.throw is not a function

Similarly, for that, you can use:

import 'rxjs/add/observable/throw';

Negative list index?

List indexes of -x mean the xth item from the end of the list, so n[-1] means the last item in the list n. Any good Python tutorial should have told you this.

It's an unusual convention that only a few other languages besides Python have adopted, but it is extraordinarily useful; in any other language you'll spend a lot of time writing n[n.length-1] to access the last item of a list.

What is the difference between old style and new style classes in Python?

Guido has written The Inside Story on New-Style Classes, a really great article about new-style and old-style class in Python.

Python 3 has only new-style class. Even if you write an 'old-style class', it is implicitly derived from object.

New-style classes have some advanced features lacking in old-style classes, such as super, the new C3 mro, some magical methods, etc.

Spring Security redirect to previous page after successful login

I found Utku Özdemir's solution works to some extent, but kind of defeats the purpose of the saved request since the session attribute will take precedence over it. This means that redirects to secure pages will not work as intended - after login you will be sent to the page you were on instead of the redirect target. So as an alternative you could use a modified version of SavedRequestAwareAuthenticationSuccessHandler instead of extending it. This will allow you to have better control over when to use the session attribute.

Here is an example:

private static class MyCustomLoginSuccessHandler extends SimpleUrlAuthenticationSuccessHandler {

    private RequestCache requestCache = new HttpSessionRequestCache();

    @Override
    public void onAuthenticationSuccess(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response,
            Authentication authentication) throws ServletException, IOException {
        SavedRequest savedRequest = requestCache.getRequest(request, response);

        if (savedRequest == null) {
            HttpSession session = request.getSession();
            if (session != null) {
                String redirectUrl = (String) session.getAttribute("url_prior_login");
                if (redirectUrl != null) {
                    session.removeAttribute("url_prior_login");
                    getRedirectStrategy().sendRedirect(request, response, redirectUrl);
                } else {
                    super.onAuthenticationSuccess(request, response, authentication);
                }
            } else {
                super.onAuthenticationSuccess(request, response, authentication);
            }

            return;
        }

        String targetUrlParameter = getTargetUrlParameter();
        if (isAlwaysUseDefaultTargetUrl()
                || (targetUrlParameter != null && StringUtils.hasText(request.getParameter(targetUrlParameter)))) {
            requestCache.removeRequest(request, response);
            super.onAuthenticationSuccess(request, response, authentication);

            return;
        }

        clearAuthenticationAttributes(request);

        // Use the DefaultSavedRequest URL
        String targetUrl = savedRequest.getRedirectUrl();
        logger.debug("Redirecting to DefaultSavedRequest Url: " + targetUrl);
        getRedirectStrategy().sendRedirect(request, response, targetUrl);
    }
}

Also, you don't want to save the referrer when authentication has failed, since the referrer will then be the login page itself. So check for the error param manually or provide a separate RequestMapping like below.

@RequestMapping(value = "/login", params = "error")
public String loginError() {
    // Don't save referrer here!
}

The requested resource does not support HTTP method 'GET'

I was experiencing the same issue.. I already had 4 controllers going and working just fine but when I added this one it returned "The requested resource does not support HTTP method 'GET'". I tried everything here and in a couple other relevant articles but was indifferent to the solution since, as Dan B. mentioned in response to the answer, I already had others working fine.

I walked away for a while, came back, and immediately realized that when I added the Controller it was nested under the "Controller" class and not "ApiController" class that my other Controllers were under. I'm assuming I chose the wrong scaffolding option to build the .cs file in Visual Studio. So I included the System.Web.Http namespace, changed the parent class, and everything works without the additional attributes or routing.

How to use a wildcard in the classpath to add multiple jars?

Basename wild cards were introduced in Java 6; i.e. "foo/*" means all ".jar" files in the "foo" directory.

Why is there extra padding at the top of my UITableView with style UITableViewStyleGrouped in iOS7

I went through all answers. None worked for me. All I had to do was:

self.myTableView.rowHeight = UITableViewAutomaticDimension
self.myTableView.estimatedRowHeight = 44.0

Additionally the issue wasn't happening at the top of tableView. It was happening at the top of each section of the tableView.

FWIW this issue was only happening for iOS9. Our app worked fine for iOS10 and iOS 11.

Print all day-dates between two dates

Essentially the same as Gringo Suave's answer, but with a generator:

from datetime import datetime, timedelta

def datetime_range(start=None, end=None):
    span = end - start
    for i in xrange(span.days + 1):
        yield start + timedelta(days=i)

Then you can use it as follows:

In: list(datetime_range(start=datetime(2014, 1, 1), end=datetime(2014, 1, 5)))
Out:
[datetime.datetime(2014, 1, 1, 0, 0),
 datetime.datetime(2014, 1, 2, 0, 0),
 datetime.datetime(2014, 1, 3, 0, 0),
 datetime.datetime(2014, 1, 4, 0, 0),
 datetime.datetime(2014, 1, 5, 0, 0)]

Or like this:

In []: for date in datetime_range(start=datetime(2014, 1, 1), end=datetime(2014, 1, 5)):
   ...:     print date
   ...:

Adding up BigDecimals using Streams

You can sum up the values of a BigDecimal stream using a reusable Collector named summingUp:

BigDecimal sum = bigDecimalStream.collect(summingUp());

The Collector can be implemented like this:

public static Collector<BigDecimal, ?, BigDecimal> summingUp() {
    return Collectors.reducing(BigDecimal.ZERO, BigDecimal::add);
}

JSON Array iteration in Android/Java

I think this code is short and clear:

int id;
String name;
JSONArray array = new JSONArray(string_of_json_array);
for (int i = 0; i < array.length(); i++) {
    JSONObject row = array.getJSONObject(i);
    id = row.getInt("id");
    name = row.getString("name");
}

Support for ES6 in Internet Explorer 11

The statement from Microsoft regarding the end of Internet Explorer 11 support mentions that it will continue to receive security updates, compatibility fixes, and technical support until its end of life. The wording of this statement leads me to believe that Microsoft has no plans to continue adding features to Internet Explorer 11, and instead will be focusing on Edge.

If you require ES6 features in Internet Explorer 11, check out a transpiler such as Babel.

Hook up Raspberry Pi via Ethernet to laptop without router?

How to center canvas in html5

Add text-align: center; to the parent tag of <canvas>. That's it.

Example:

<div style="text-align: center">
    <canvas width="300" height="300">
        <!--your canvas code -->
    </canvas>
</div>

Redirecting to a certain route based on condition

Here's how I did it, in case it helps anyone:

In the config, I set a publicAccess attribute on the few routes that I want open to the public (like login or register):

$routeProvider
    .when('/', {
        templateUrl: 'views/home.html',
        controller: 'HomeCtrl'
    })
    .when('/login', {
        templateUrl: 'views/login.html',
        controller: 'LoginCtrl',
        publicAccess: true
    })

then in a run block, I set a listener on the $routeChangeStart event that redirects to '/login' unless the user has access or the route is publicly accessible:

angular.module('myModule').run(function($rootScope, $location, user, $route) {

    var routesOpenToPublic = [];
    angular.forEach($route.routes, function(route, path) {
        // push route onto routesOpenToPublic if it has a truthy publicAccess value
        route.publicAccess && (routesOpenToPublic.push(path));
    });

    $rootScope.$on('$routeChangeStart', function(event, nextLoc, currentLoc) {
        var closedToPublic = (-1 === routesOpenToPublic.indexOf($location.path()));
        if(closedToPublic && !user.isLoggedIn()) {
            $location.path('/login');
        }
    });
})

You could obviously change the condition from isLoggedIn to anything else... just showing another way to do it.

Stop/Close webcam stream which is opened by navigator.mediaDevices.getUserMedia

Starting Webcam Video with different browsers

For Opera 12

window.navigator.getUserMedia(param, function(stream) {
                            video.src =window.URL.createObjectURL(stream);
                        }, videoError );

For Firefox Nightly 18.0

window.navigator.mozGetUserMedia(param, function(stream) {
                            video.mozSrcObject = stream;
                        }, videoError );

For Chrome 22

window.navigator.webkitGetUserMedia(param, function(stream) {
                            video.src =window.webkitURL.createObjectURL(stream);
                        },  videoError );

Stopping Webcam Video with different browsers

For Opera 12

video.pause();
video.src=null;

For Firefox Nightly 18.0

video.pause();
video.mozSrcObject=null;

For Chrome 22

video.pause();
video.src="";

With this the Webcam light go down everytime...

Is there an upper bound to BigInteger?

The first maximum you would hit is the length of a String which is 231-1 digits. It's much smaller than the maximum of a BigInteger but IMHO it loses much of its value if it can't be printed.

Laravel Pagination links not including other GET parameters

Be aware of the Input::all() , it will Include the previous ?page= values again and again in each page you open !
for example if you are in ?page=1 and you open the next page, it will open ?page=1&page=2
So the last value page takes will be the page you see ! not the page you want to see

Solution : use Input::except(array('page'))

How to use delimiter for csv in python

Your code is blanking out your file:

import csv
workingdir = "C:\Mer\Ven\sample"
csvfile = workingdir+"\test3.csv"
f=open(csvfile,'wb') # opens file for writing (erases contents)
csv.writer(f, delimiter =' ',quotechar =',',quoting=csv.QUOTE_MINIMAL)

if you want to read the file in, you will need to use csv.reader and open the file for reading.

import csv
workingdir = "C:\Mer\Ven\sample"
csvfile = workingdir+"\test3.csv"
f=open(csvfile,'rb') # opens file for reading
reader = csv.reader(f)
for line in reader:
    print line

If you want to write that back out to a new file with different delimiters, you can create a new file and specify those delimiters and write out each line (instead of printing the tuple).

Minimum rights required to run a windows service as a domain account

Thanks for the links, Chris. I've often wondered about the specific effects of privileges like "BypassTraverseChecking" but never bothered to look them up.

I was having interesting problems getting a service to run and discovered that it didn't have access to it's files after the initial installation had been done by the administrator. I was thinking it needed something in addition to Logon As A Service until I found the file issue.

  1. Disabled simple file sharing.
  2. Temporarily made my service account an administrator.
  3. Used the service account to take ownership of the files.
  4. Remove service account from the administrators group.
  5. Reboot.

During Take Ownership, it was necessary to disable inheritance of permissions from the parent directories and apply permissions recursively down the tree.

Wasn't able to find a "give ownership" option to avoid making the service account an administrator temporarily, though.

Anyway, thought I'd post this in case anyone else was going down the same road I was looking for security policy issues when it was really just filesystem rights.

memory error in python

This one here:

s = raw_input()
a=len(s)
for i in xrange(0, a):
    for j in xrange(0, a):
        if j >= i:
            if len(s[i:j+1]) > 0:
                sub_strings.append(s[i:j+1])

seems to be very inefficient and expensive for large strings.

Better do

for i in xrange(0, a):
    for j in xrange(i, a): # ensures that j >= i, no test required
        part = buffer(s, i, j+1-i) # don't duplicate data
        if len(part) > 0:
            sub_Strings.append(part)

A buffer object keeps a reference to the original string and start and length attributes. This way, no unnecessary duplication of data occurs.

A string of length l has l*l/2 sub strings of average length l/2, so the memory consumption would roughly be l*l*l/4. With a buffer, it is much smaller.

Note that buffer() only exists in 2.x. 3.x has memoryview(), which is utilized slightly different.

Even better would be to compute the indexes and cut out the substring on demand.

Is it possible to implement a Python for range loop without an iterator variable?

Off the top of my head, no.

I think the best you could do is something like this:

def loop(f,n):
    for i in xrange(n): f()

loop(lambda: <insert expression here>, 5)

But I think you can just live with the extra i variable.

Here is the option to use the _ variable, which in reality, is just another variable.

for _ in range(n):
    do_something()

Note that _ is assigned the last result that returned in an interactive python session:

>>> 1+2
3
>>> _
3

For this reason, I would not use it in this manner. I am unaware of any idiom as mentioned by Ryan. It can mess up your interpreter.

>>> for _ in xrange(10): pass
...
>>> _
9
>>> 1+2
3
>>> _
9

And according to Python grammar, it is an acceptable variable name:

identifier ::= (letter|"_") (letter | digit | "_")*

intellij idea - Error: java: invalid source release 1.9

For anyone struggling with this issue who tried DeanM's solution but to no avail, there's something else worth checking, which is the version of the JDK you have configured for your project. What I'm trying to say is that if you have configured JDK 8u191 (for example) for your project, but have the language level set to anything higher than 8, you're gonna get this error.

In this case, it's probably better to ask whoever's in charge of the project, which version of the JDK would be preferable to compile the sources.

open() in Python does not create a file if it doesn't exist

What do you want to do with file? Only writing to it or both read and write?

'w', 'a' will allow write and will create the file if it doesn't exist.

If you need to read from a file, the file has to be exist before open it. You can test its existence before opening it or use a try/except.

How do you clear the SQL Server transaction log?

Below is a script to shrink the transaction log, but I’d definitely recommend backing up the transaction log before shrinking it.

If you just shrink the file you are going to lose a ton of data that may come as a life saver in case of disaster. The transaction log contains a lot of useful data that can be read using a third-party transaction log reader (it can be read manually but with extreme effort though).

The transaction log is also a must when it comes to point in time recovery, so don’t just throw it away, but make sure you back it up beforehand.

Here are several posts where people used data stored in the transaction log to accomplish recovery:

USE DATABASE_NAME;
GO

ALTER DATABASE DATABASE_NAME
SET RECOVERY SIMPLE;
GO
--First parameter is log file name and second is size in MB
DBCC SHRINKFILE (DATABASE_NAME_Log, 1);

ALTER DATABASE DATABASE_NAME
SET RECOVERY FULL;
GO

You may get an error that looks like this when the executing commands above

“Cannot shrink log file (log file name) because the logical log file located at the end of the file is in use“

This means that TLOG is in use. In this case try executing this several times in a row or find a way to reduce database activities.

trigger click event from angularjs directive

Here is perhaps a different way for you to achieve this. Pass into the directive both the index and the item and let the directive setup the html in a template:

Demo: http://plnkr.co/edit/ybcNosdPA76J1IqXjcGG?p=preview

html:

<ul id="thumbnails">
    <li class="thumbnail" ng-repeat="item in items" options='#my-container' itemdata='item' index="$index">

    </li>
  </ul>

js directive:

app.directive('thumbnail', [function() {
  return {
    restrict: 'CA',
    replace: false,
    transclude: false,
    scope: {
        index: '=index',
        item: '=itemdata'
    },
    template: '<a href="#"><img src="{{item.src}}" alt="{{item.alt}}" /></a>',
    link: function(scope, elem, attrs) {
        if (parseInt(scope.index) == 0) {
            angular.element(attrs.options).css({'background-image':'url('+ scope.item.src +')'});
        }

        elem.bind('click', function() {
            var src = elem.find('img').attr('src');

            // call your SmoothZoom here
            angular.element(attrs.options).css({'background-image':'url('+ scope.item.src +')'});
        });
    }
}
}]);

You probably would be better off adding a ng-click to the image as pointed out in another answer.

Creating multiline strings in JavaScript

You can use TypeScript (JavaScript SuperSet), it supports multiline strings, and transpiles back down to pure JavaScript without overhead:

var templates = {
    myString: `this is
a multiline
string`
}

alert(templates.myString);

If you'd want to accomplish the same with plain JavaScript:

var templates =
{
 myString: function(){/*
    This is some
    awesome multi-lined
    string using a comment
    inside a function
    returned as a string.
    Enjoy the jimmy rigged code.
*/}.toString().slice(14,-3)

}
alert(templates.myString)

Note that the iPad/Safari does not support 'functionName.toString()'

If you have a lot of legacy code, you can also use the plain JavaScript variant in TypeScript (for cleanup purposes):

interface externTemplates
{
    myString:string;
}

declare var templates:externTemplates;

alert(templates.myString)

and you can use the multiline-string object from the plain JavaScript variant, where you put the templates into another file (which you can merge in the bundle).

You can try TypeScript at
http://www.typescriptlang.org/Playground

Angularjs prevent form submission when input validation fails

Just to add to the answers above,

I was having a 2 regular buttons as shown below. (No type="submit"anywhere)

<button ng-click="clearAll();" class="btn btn-default">Clear Form</button>
<button ng-disabled="form.$invalid" ng-click="submit();"class="btn btn-primary pull-right">Submit</button>

No matter how much i tried, pressing enter once the form was valid, the "Clear Form" button was called, clearing the entire form.

As a workaround,

I had to add a dummy submit button which was disabled and hidden. And This dummy button had to be on top of all the other buttons as shown below.

<button type="submit" ng-hide="true" ng-disabled="true">Dummy</button>

<button ng-click="clearAll();" class="btn btn-default">Clear Form</button>

<button ng-disabled="form.$invalid" ng-click="submit();"class="btn btn-primary pull-right">Submit</button>

Well, my intention was never to submit on Enter, so the above given hack just works fine.

What is App.config in C#.NET? How to use it?

At its simplest, the app.config is an XML file with many predefined configuration sections available and support for custom configuration sections. A "configuration section" is a snippet of XML with a schema meant to store some type of information.

Settings can be configured using built-in configuration sections such as connectionStrings or appSettings. You can add your own custom configuration sections; this is an advanced topic, but very powerful for building strongly-typed configuration files.

Web applications typically have a web.config, while Windows GUI/service applications have an app.config file.

Application-level config files inherit settings from global configuration files, e.g. the machine.config.

Reading from the App.Config

Connection strings have a predefined schema that you can use. Note that this small snippet is actually a valid app.config (or web.config) file:

<?xml version="1.0"?>
<configuration>
    <connectionStrings>
        <add name="MyKey"
             connectionString="Data Source=localhost;Initial Catalog=ABC;"
             providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/>
    </connectionStrings>
</configuration>

Once you have defined your app.config, you can read it in code using the ConfigurationManager class. Don't be intimidated by the verbose MSDN examples; it's actually quite simple.

string connectionString = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["MyKey"].ConnectionString;

Writing to the App.Config

Frequently changing the *.config files is usually not a good idea, but it sounds like you only want to perform one-time setup.

See: Change connection string & reload app.config at run time which describes how to update the connectionStrings section of the *.config file at runtime.

Note that ideally you would perform such configuration changes from a simple installer.

Location of the App.Config at Runtime

Q: Suppose I manually change some <value> in app.config, save it and then close it. Now when I go to my bin folder and launch the .exe file from here, why doesn't it reflect the applied changes?

A: When you compile an application, its app.config is copied to the bin directory1 with a name that matches your exe. For example, if your exe was named "test.exe", there should be a "text.exe.config" in your bin directory. You can change the configuration without a recompile, but you will need to edit the config file that was created at compile time, not the original app.config.

1: Note that web.config files are not moved, but instead stay in the same location at compile and deployment time. One exception to this is when a web.config is transformed.

.NET Core

New configuration options were introduced with .NET Core. The way that *.config files works does not appear to have changed, but developers are free to choose new, more flexible configuration paradigms.

How to Display blob (.pdf) in an AngularJS app

First of all you need to set the responseType to arraybuffer. This is required if you want to create a blob of your data. See Sending_and_Receiving_Binary_Data. So your code will look like this:

$http.post('/postUrlHere',{myParams}, {responseType:'arraybuffer'})
  .success(function (response) {
       var file = new Blob([response], {type: 'application/pdf'});
       var fileURL = URL.createObjectURL(file);
});

The next part is, you need to use the $sce service to make angular trust your url. This can be done in this way:

$scope.content = $sce.trustAsResourceUrl(fileURL);

Do not forget to inject the $sce service.

If this is all done you can now embed your pdf:

<embed ng-src="{{content}}" style="width:200px;height:200px;"></embed>

Error:Unable to locate adb within SDK in Android Studio

I struggled with this for a while. Tried to install/uninstall various packages under the SDK Manager without success. I even deleted Android Studio and reinstall it, it did not help.

I am running Android Studio 3.3 on OS X 10.14.2. At the end I tried the following:

rm -rf Library/Android/sdk

This removed the whole sdk folder. You should run this command on your home directory in terminal. (it is the default location when you open it)

I then started Android Studio and it could not find the sdk. So it prompted me to download it. I downloaded a fresh SDK and everything was working normally.

It might be an overkill but it worked.

How to convert an Stream into a byte[] in C#?

In .NET Framework 4 and later, the Stream class has a built-in CopyTo method that you can use.

For earlier versions of the framework, the handy helper function to have is:

public static void CopyStream(Stream input, Stream output)
{
    byte[] b = new byte[32768];
    int r;
    while ((r = input.Read(b, 0, b.Length)) > 0)
        output.Write(b, 0, r);
}

Then use one of the above methods to copy to a MemoryStream and call GetBuffer on it:

var file = new FileStream("c:\\foo.txt", FileMode.Open);

var mem = new MemoryStream();

// If using .NET 4 or later:
file.CopyTo(mem);

// Otherwise:
CopyStream(file, mem);

// getting the internal buffer (no additional copying)
byte[] buffer = mem.GetBuffer();
long length = mem.Length; // the actual length of the data
                          // (the array may be longer)

// if you need the array to be exactly as long as the data
byte[] truncated = mem.ToArray(); // makes another copy

Edit: originally I suggested using Jason's answer for a Stream that supports the Length property. But it had a flaw because it assumed that the Stream would return all its contents in a single Read, which is not necessarily true (not for a Socket, for example.) I don't know if there is an example of a Stream implementation in the BCL that does support Length but might return the data in shorter chunks than you request, but as anyone can inherit Stream this could easily be the case.

It's probably simpler for most cases to use the above general solution, but supposing you did want to read directly into an array that is bigEnough:

byte[] b = new byte[bigEnough];
int r, offset;
while ((r = input.Read(b, offset, b.Length - offset)) > 0)
    offset += r;

That is, repeatedly call Read and move the position you will be storing the data at.

How to clamp an integer to some range?

Chaining max() and min() together is the normal idiom I've seen. If you find it hard to read, write a helper function to encapsulate the operation:

def clamp(minimum, x, maximum):
    return max(minimum, min(x, maximum))

malloc an array of struct pointers

array is a slightly misleading name. For a dynamically allocated array of pointers, malloc will return a pointer to a block of memory. You need to use Chess* and not Chess[] to hold the pointer to your array.

Chess *array = malloc(size * sizeof(Chess));
array[i] = NULL;

and perhaps later:

/* create new struct chess */
array[i] = malloc(sizeof(struct chess));

/* set up its members */
array[i]->size = 0;
/* etc. */

SQLite DateTime comparison

Following worked for me.

SELECT *
FROM table_log
WHERE DATE(start_time) <= '2017-01-09' AND DATE(start_time) >= '2016-12-21'

CSS3 selector :first-of-type with class name?

Simply :first works for me, why isn't this mentioned yet?

The database cannot be opened because it is version 782. This server supports version 706 and earlier. A downgrade path is not supported

Try to change the compatibility level, worked for me.

Verify what level it is

USE VJ_DATABASE;
GO
SELECT compatibility_level
FROM sys.databases WHERE name = 'VJ_DATABASE';
GO

Then make it compatible with the older version

ALTER DATABASE VJ_DATABASE
SET COMPATIBILITY_LEVEL = 110;
GO
  • 100 = Sql Server 2008
  • 110 = Sql Server 2012
  • 120 = Sql Server 2014

By default, Sql Server 2014 will change the db versions compatibility to only 2014, using the @@ version you should be able to tell, which version Sql Server is.

Then run the command above to change it the version you have.

Additional step: Ensure you look at the accessibility of the DB is not reset, do this by right clicking on properties of the folder and the database. (make sure you have rights so you don't get an access denied)

Getting first and last day of the current month

Try this code it is already built in c#

int lastDay = DateTime.DaysInMonth (2014, 2);

and the first day is always 1.

Good Luck!

How to find rows in one table that have no corresponding row in another table

For my small dataset, Oracle gives almost all of these queries the exact same plan that uses the primary key indexes without touching the table. The exception is the MINUS version which manages to do fewer consistent gets despite the higher plan cost.

--Create Sample Data.

Django Model() vs Model.objects.create()

The two syntaxes are not equivalent and it can lead to unexpected errors. Here is a simple example showing the differences. If you have a model:

from django.db import models

class Test(models.Model):

    added = models.DateTimeField(auto_now_add=True)

And you create a first object:

foo = Test.objects.create(pk=1)

Then you try to create an object with the same primary key:

foo_duplicate = Test.objects.create(pk=1)
# returns the error:
# django.db.utils.IntegrityError: (1062, "Duplicate entry '1' for key 'PRIMARY'")

foo_duplicate = Test(pk=1).save()
# returns the error:
# django.db.utils.IntegrityError: (1048, "Column 'added' cannot be null")

How to copy selected files from Android with adb pull

As to the short script, the following runs on my Linux host

#!/bin/bash
HOST_DIR=<pull-to>
DEVICE_DIR=/sdcard/<pull-from>
EXTENSION="\.jpg"

while read MYFILE ; do
    adb pull "$DEVICE_DIR/$MYFILE" "$HOST_DIR/$MYFILE"
done < $(adb shell ls -1 "$DEVICE_DIR" | grep "$EXTENSION")

"ls minus one" lets "ls" show one file per line, and the quotation marks allow spaces in the filename.

Refreshing page on click of a button

Works for every browser.

<button type="button" onClick="Refresh()">Close</button>

<script>
    function Refresh() {
        window.parent.location = window.parent.location.href;
    }
</script>

HTML5 Canvas and Anti-aliasing

You may translate canvas by half-pixel distance.

ctx.translate(0.5, 0.5);

Initially the canvas positioning point between the physical pixels.

Illegal Escape Character "\"

You can use:

\\

That's ok, for example:

if (invName.substring(j,k).equals("\\")) {
    copyf=invName.substring(0,j);
}

How to add custom validation to an AngularJS form?

Update:

Improved and simplified version of previous directive (one instead of two) with same functionality:

.directive('myTestExpression', ['$parse', function ($parse) {
    return {
        restrict: 'A',
        require: 'ngModel',
        link: function (scope, element, attrs, ctrl) {
            var expr = attrs.myTestExpression;
            var watches = attrs.myTestExpressionWatch;

            ctrl.$validators.mytestexpression = function (modelValue, viewValue) {
                return expr == undefined || (angular.isString(expr) && expr.length < 1) || $parse(expr)(scope, { $model: modelValue, $view: viewValue }) === true;
            };

            if (angular.isString(watches)) {
                angular.forEach(watches.split(",").filter(function (n) { return !!n; }), function (n) {
                    scope.$watch(n, function () {
                        ctrl.$validate();
                    });
                });
            }
        }
    };
}])

Example usage:

<input ng-model="price1"
       my-test-expression="$model > 0"
       my-test-expression-watch="price2,someOtherWatchedPrice" />
<input ng-model="price2"
       my-test-expression="$model > 10"
       my-test-expression-watch="price1"
       required />

Result: Mutually dependent test expressions where validators are executed on change of other's directive model and current model.

Test expression has local $model variable which you should use to compare it to other variables.

Previously:

I've made an attempt to improve @Plantface code by adding extra directive. This extra directive very useful if our expression needs to be executed when changes are made in more than one ngModel variables.

.directive('ensureExpression', ['$parse', function($parse) {
    return {
        restrict: 'A',
        require: 'ngModel',
        controller: function () { },
        scope: true,
        link: function (scope, element, attrs, ngModelCtrl) {
            scope.validate = function () {
                var booleanResult = $parse(attrs.ensureExpression)(scope);
                ngModelCtrl.$setValidity('expression', booleanResult);
            };

            scope.$watch(attrs.ngModel, function(value) {
                scope.validate();
            });
        }
    };
}])

.directive('ensureWatch', ['$parse', function ($parse) {
    return {
        restrict: 'A',
        require: 'ensureExpression',
        link: function (scope, element, attrs, ctrl) {
            angular.forEach(attrs.ensureWatch.split(",").filter(function (n) { return !!n; }), function (n) {
                scope.$watch(n, function () {
                    scope.validate();
                });
            });
        }
    };
}])

Example how to use it to make cross validated fields:

<input name="price1"
       ng-model="price1"
       ensure-expression="price1 > price2"
       ensure-watch="price2" />
<input name="price2"
       ng-model="price2"
       ensure-expression="price2 > price3"
       ensure-watch="price3" />
<input name="price3"
       ng-model="price3"
       ensure-expression="price3 > price1 && price3 > price2"
       ensure-watch="price1,price2" />

ensure-expression is executed to validate model when ng-model or any of ensure-watch variables is changed.

How to use adb pull command?

I don't think adb pull handles wildcards for multiple files. I ran into the same problem and did this by moving the files to a folder and then pulling the folder.

I found a link doing the same thing. Try following these steps.

When using Trusted_Connection=true and SQL Server authentication, will this affect performance?

If your web application is configured to impersonate a client, then using a trusted connection will potentially have a negative performance impact. This is because each client must use a different connection pool (with the client's credentials).

Most web applications don't use impersonation / delegation, and hence don't have this problem.

See this MSDN article for more information.

Can I use a case/switch statement with two variables?

How about a bitwise operator? Instead of strings, you're dealing with "enums", which looks more "elegant."

// Declare slider's state "enum"
var SliderOne = {
    A: 1,
    B: 2,
    C: 4,
    D: 8,
    E: 16
};

var SliderTwo = {
    A: 32,
    B: 64,
    C: 128,
    D: 256,
    E: 512
};

// Set state
var s1 = SliderOne.A,
    s2 = SliderTwo.B;

// Switch state
switch (s1 | s2) {
    case SliderOne.A | SliderTwo.A :
    case SliderOne.A | SliderTwo.C :
        // Logic when State #1 is A, and State #2 is either A or C
        break;
    case SliderOne.B | SliderTwo.C :
        // Logic when State #1 is B, and State #2 is C
        break;
    case SliderOne.E | SliderTwo.E :
    default:
        // Logic when State #1 is E, and State #2 is E or
        // none of above match
        break;

}

I however agree with others, 25 cases in a switch-case logic is not too pretty, and if-else might, in some cases, "look" better. Anyway.

Failed to connect to mailserver at "localhost" port 25, verify your "SMTP" and "smtp_port" setting in php.ini or use ini_set()

If you are running your application just on localhost and it is not yet live, I believe it is very difficult to send mail using this.

Once you put your application online, I believe that this problem should be automatically solved. By the way,ini_set() helps you to change the values in php.ini during run time.

This is the same question as Failed to connect to mailserver at "localhost" port 25

How do I solve this "Cannot read property 'appendChild' of null" error?

For all those facing a similar issue, I came across this same issue when i was trying to run a particular code snippet, shown below.

<html>
    <head>
        <script>
                var div, container = document.getElementById("container")
                for(var i=0;i<5;i++){
                    div = document.createElement("div");
                    div.onclick = function() {
                        alert("This is a box #"+i);
                    };
                    container.appendChild(div);
                }
            </script>

    </head>
    <body>
        <div id="container"></div>
    </body>
 </html>

https://codepen.io/pcwanderer/pen/MMEREr

Looking at the error in the console for the above code.

Since the document.getElementById is returning a null and as null does not have a attribute named appendChild, therefore a error is thrown. To solve the issue see the code below.

<html>
    <head>
        <style>
        #container{
            height: 200px;
            width: 700px;
            background-color: red;
            margin: 10px;
        }

        div{
            height: 100px;
            width: 100px;
            background-color: purple;
            margin: 20px;
            display: inline-block;
        }
        </style>
    </head>
    <body>
        <div id="container"></div>
        <script>
                var div, container = document.getElementById("container")
                for(let i=0;i<5;i++){
                    div = document.createElement("div");
                    div.onclick = function() {
                        alert("This is a box #"+i);
                    };
                    container.appendChild(div);
                }
            </script>
    </body>

How to substring in jquery

Yes you can, although it relies on Javascript's inherent functionality and not the jQuery library.

http://www.w3schools.com/jsref/jsref_substr.asp The substr function will allow you to extract certain parts of the string.

Now, if you're looking for a specific string or character to use to find what part of the string to extract, you can make use of the indexOf function as well. http://www.w3schools.com/jsref/jsref_IndexOf.asp

The question is somewhat vague though; even just link text with 'name' will achieve the desired result. What's the criteria for getting your substring, exactly?

Android - Share on Facebook, Twitter, Mail, ecc

I think you want to give Share button, clicking on which the suitable media/website option should be there to share with it. In Android, you need to create createChooser for the same.

Sharing Text:

Intent sharingIntent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_SEND);
sharingIntent.setType("text/plain");
sharingIntent.putExtra(android.content.Intent.EXTRA_TEXT, "This is the text that will be shared.");
startActivity(Intent.createChooser(sharingIntent,"Share using"));

Sharing binary objects (Images, videos etc.)

Intent sharingIntent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_SEND);
Uri screenshotUri = Uri.parse(path);

sharingIntent.setType("image/png");
sharingIntent.putExtra(Intent.EXTRA_STREAM, screenshotUri);
startActivity(Intent.createChooser(sharingIntent, "Share image using"));

FYI, above code are referred from Sharing content in Android using ACTION_SEND Intent

Loading cross-domain endpoint with AJAX

I'm posting this in case someone faces the same problem I am facing right now. I've got a Zebra thermal printer, equipped with the ZebraNet print server, which offers a HTML-based user interface for editing multiple settings, seeing the printer's current status, etc. I need to get the status of the printer, which is displayed in one of those html pages, offered by the ZebraNet server and, for example, alert() a message to the user in the browser. This means that I have to get that html page in Javascript first. Although the printer is within the LAN of the user's PC, that Same Origin Policy is still staying firmly in my way. I tried JSONP, but the server returns html and I haven't found a way to modify its functionality (if I could, I would have already set the magic header Access-control-allow-origin: *). So I decided to write a small console app in C#. It has to be run as Admin to work properly, otherwise it trolls :D an exception. Here is some code:

// Create a listener.
        HttpListener listener = new HttpListener();
        // Add the prefixes.
        //foreach (string s in prefixes)
        //{
        //    listener.Prefixes.Add(s);
        //}
        listener.Prefixes.Add("http://*:1234/"); // accept connections from everywhere,
        //because the printer is accessible only within the LAN (no portforwarding)
        listener.Start();
        Console.WriteLine("Listening...");
        // Note: The GetContext method blocks while waiting for a request.
        HttpListenerContext context;
        string urlForRequest = "";

        HttpWebRequest requestForPage = null;
        HttpWebResponse responseForPage = null;
        string responseForPageAsString = "";

        while (true)
        {
            context = listener.GetContext();
            HttpListenerRequest request = context.Request;
            urlForRequest = request.RawUrl.Substring(1, request.RawUrl.Length - 1); // remove the slash, which separates the portNumber from the arg sent
            Console.WriteLine(urlForRequest);

            //Request for the html page:
            requestForPage = (HttpWebRequest)WebRequest.Create(urlForRequest);
            responseForPage = (HttpWebResponse)requestForPage.GetResponse();
            responseForPageAsString = new StreamReader(responseForPage.GetResponseStream()).ReadToEnd();

            // Obtain a response object.
            HttpListenerResponse response = context.Response;
            // Send back the response.
            byte[] buffer = System.Text.Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes(responseForPageAsString);
            // Get a response stream and write the response to it.
            response.ContentLength64 = buffer.Length;
            response.AddHeader("Access-Control-Allow-Origin", "*"); // the magic header in action ;-D
            System.IO.Stream output = response.OutputStream;
            output.Write(buffer, 0, buffer.Length);
            // You must close the output stream.
            output.Close();
            //listener.Stop();

All the user needs to do is run that console app as Admin. I know it is way too ... frustrating and complicated, but it is sort of a workaround to the Domain Policy problem in case you cannot modify the server in any way.

edit: from js I make a simple ajax call:

$.ajax({
                type: 'POST',
                url: 'http://LAN_IP:1234/http://google.com',
                success: function (data) {
                    console.log("Success: " + data);
                },
                error: function (e) {
                    alert("Error: " + e);
                    console.log("Error: " + e);
                }
            });

The html of the requested page is returned and stored in the data variable.

How can I find non-ASCII characters in MySQL?

MySQL provides comprehensive character set management that can help with this kind of problem.

SELECT whatever
  FROM tableName
 WHERE columnToCheck <> CONVERT(columnToCheck USING ASCII)

The CONVERT(col USING charset) function turns the unconvertable characters into replacement characters. Then, the converted and unconverted text will be unequal.

See this for more discussion. https://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/8.0/en/charset-repertoire.html

You can use any character set name you wish in place of ASCII. For example, if you want to find out which characters won't render correctly in code page 1257 (Lithuanian, Latvian, Estonian) use CONVERT(columnToCheck USING cp1257)

How do I generate random integers within a specific range in Java?

You can either use the Random class to generate a random number and then use the .nextInt(maxNumber) to generate a random number. The maxNumber is the number that you want the maximum when generating a random number. Please remember though, that the Random class gives you the numbers 0 through maxNumber-1.

Random r = new Random();
int i = r.nextInt();

Another way to do this is to use the Math.Random() class which many classes in schools require you to use because it is more efficient and you don't have to declare a new Random object. To get a random number using Math.Random() you type in:

Math.random() * (max - min) + min;

How can I increase the cursor speed in terminal?

If by "cursor speed", you mean the repeat rate when holding down a key - then have a look here: http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20090823193018149

To summarize, open up a Terminal window and type the following command:

defaults write NSGlobalDomain KeyRepeat -int 0

More detail from the article:

Everybody knows that you can get a pretty fast keyboard repeat rate by changing a slider on the Keyboard tab of the Keyboard & Mouse System Preferences panel. But you can make it even faster! In Terminal, run this command:

defaults write NSGlobalDomain KeyRepeat -int 0

Then log out and log in again. The fastest setting obtainable via System Preferences is 2 (lower numbers are faster), so you may also want to try a value of 1 if 0 seems too fast. You can always visit the Keyboard & Mouse System Preferences panel to undo your changes.

You may find that a few applications don't handle extremely fast keyboard input very well, but most will do just fine with it.

How to set thymeleaf th:field value from other variable

If you don't have to come back on the page with keeping form's value, you can do that :

<form method="post" th:action="@{''}" th:object="${form}">
    <input class="form-control"
           type="text"
           th:field="${client.name}"/>

It's some kind of magic :

  • it will set the value = client.name
  • it will send back the value in the form, as 'name' field. So you would have to change your form field, 'clientName' to 'name'

If you matter keeping you form's input values, like a back on the page with an user input mistake, then you will have to do that :

<form method="post" th:action="@{''}" th:object="${form}">
    <input class="form-control"
           type="text"
           th:name="name"
           th:value="${form.name != null} ? ${form.name} : ${client.name}"/>

That means :

  • The form field name is 'name'
  • The value is taken from the form if it exists, else from the client bean. Which matches the first arrival on the page with initial value, then the forms input values if there is an error.

Without having to map your client bean to your form bean. And it works because once you submitted the form, the value arn't null but "" (empty)

How do you create optional arguments in php?

  }
}

transforms directly into:

// needs #import <objc/objc-sync.h>
{
  objc_sync_enter(self)
    id retVal = [[myString retain] autorelease];
  objc_sync_exit(self);
  return retVal;

Creating a JSON array in C#

You're close. This should do the trick:

new {items = new [] {
    new {name = "command" , index = "X", optional = "0"},
    new {name = "command" , index = "X", optional = "0"}
}}

If your source was an enumerable of some sort, you might want to do this:

new {items = source.Select(item => new
{
    name = item.Name, index = item.Index, options = item.Optional
})};

How do I make Git use the editor of my choice for commits?

For users of TextWrangler from the Mac app store:

git config --global core.editor "open -n -W -a TextWrangler"

Also, make sure your "TextWrangler > Preferences > Application > When TextWrangler becomes active:" setting is set to "Do nothing"

This works for me on OS X 10.11.4 with TextWrangler 5.0.2 from the Mac app store.

Explanation:

The -n means open in a new instance.

The -W means to wait until the application exits before using the contents of the edited file as the commit message.

The -a TextWrangler means use the TextWrangler application to open the file.

See man open in your Mac Terminal app for more details.

Call An Asynchronous Javascript Function Synchronously

The idea that you hope to achieve can be made possible if you tweak the requirement a little bit

The below code is possible if your runtime supports the ES6 specification.

More about async functions

async function myAsynchronousCall(param1) {
    // logic for myAsynchronous call
    return d;
}

function doSomething() {

  var data = await myAsynchronousCall(param1); //'blocks' here until the async call is finished
  return data;
}

Powershell script to locate specific file/file name?

I use this form for just this sort of thing:

gci . hosts -r | ? {!$_.PSIsContainer}

. maps to positional parameter Path and "hosts" maps to positional parameter Filter. I highly recommend using Filter over Include if the provider supports filtering (and the filesystem provider does). It is a good bit faster than Include.

WebView and Cookies on Android

CookieManager.getInstance().setAcceptCookie(true); Normally it should work if your webview is already initialized

cookieManager.removeAllCookie();
cookieManager.setAcceptCookie(true);

Generating Random Number In Each Row In Oracle Query

At first I thought that this would work:

select DBMS_Random.Value(1,9) output
from   ...

However, this does not generate an even distribution of output values:

select output,
       count(*)
from   (
       select round(dbms_random.value(1,9)) output
       from   dual
       connect by level <= 1000000)
group by output
order by 1

1   62423
2   125302
3   125038
4   125207
5   124892
6   124235
7   124832
8   125514
9   62557

The reasons are pretty obvious I think.

I'd suggest using something like:

floor(dbms_random.value(1,10))

Hence:

select output,
       count(*)
from   (
       select floor(dbms_random.value(1,10)) output
       from   dual
       connect by level <= 1000000)
group by output
order by 1

1   111038
2   110912
3   111155
4   111125
5   111084
6   111328
7   110873
8   111532
9   110953

How can I rebuild indexes and update stats in MySQL innoDB?

This is done with

ANALYZE TABLE table_name;

Read more about it here.

ANALYZE TABLE analyzes and stores the key distribution for a table. During the analysis, the table is locked with a read lock for MyISAM, BDB, and InnoDB. This statement works with MyISAM, BDB, InnoDB, and NDB tables.

Map.Entry: How to use it?

A Map consists of key/value pairs. For example, in your code, one key is "Add" and the associated value is JButton("+"). A Map.Entry is a single key/value pair contained in the Map. It's two most-used methods are getKey() and getValue(). Your code gets all the pairs into a Set:

Set entrys = listbouton.entrySet() ;

and iterates over them. Now, it only looks at the value part using me.getValue() and adds them to your PanneauCalcul

this.add((Component) me.getValue()) ;   //don't understand

Often this type of loop (over the Map.Entry) makes sense if you need to look at both the key and the value. However, in your case, you aren't using the keys, so a far simpler version would be to just get all the values in your map and add them. e.g.

for (JButton jb:listbouton.values()) {
  this.add(jb);
}

One final comment. The order of iteration in a HashMap is pretty random. So the buttons will be added to your PanneauCalcul in a semi-random order. If you want to preserve the order of the buttons, you should use a LinkedHashMap.

How to change the URI (URL) for a remote Git repository?

enter image description here

Troubleshooting :

You may encounter these errors when trying to changing a remote. No such remote '[name]'

This error means that the remote you tried to change doesn't exist:

git remote set-url sofake https://github.com/octocat/Spoon-Knife fatal: No such remote 'sofake'

Check that you've correctly typed the remote name.

Reference : https://help.github.com/articles/changing-a-remote-s-url/

what does it mean "(include_path='.:/usr/share/pear:/usr/share/php')"?

Solution to the problem

as mentioned by Uberfuzzy [ real cause of problem ]

If you look at the PHP constant [PATH_SEPARATOR][1], you will see it being ":" for you.

If you break apart your string ".:/usr/share/pear:/usr/share/php" using that character, you will get 3 parts

  • . (this means the current directory your code is in)
  • /usr/share/pear
  • /usr/share/ph

Any attempts to include()/require() things, will look in these directories, in this order.

It is showing you that in the error message to let you know where it could NOT find the file you were trying to require()

That was the cause of error.

Now coming to solution

  1. Step 1 : Find you php.ini file using command php --ini ( in my case : /etc/php5/cli/php.ini )
  2. Step 2 : find include_path in vi using esc then press /include_path then enter
  3. Step 3 : uncomment that line if commented and include your server directory, your path should look like this include_path = ".:/usr/share/php:/var/www/<directory>/"
  4. Step 4 : Restart apache sudo service apache2 restart

This is it. Hope it helps.

Proxy setting for R

On Mac OS, I found the best solution here. Quoting the author, two simple steps are:

1) Open Terminal and do the following:

export http_proxy=http://staff-proxy.ul.ie:8080
export HTTP_PROXY=http://staff-proxy.ul.ie:8080

2) Run R and do the following:

Sys.setenv(http_proxy="http://staff-proxy.ul.ie:8080")

double-check this with:

Sys.getenv("http_proxy")

I am behind university proxy, and this solution worked perfectly. The major issue is to export the items in Terminal before running R, both in upper- and lower-case.

Sort dataGridView columns in C# ? (Windows Form)

dataGridView1.Sort(dataGridView1.Columns[0],ListSortDirection.Ascending);

What is the difference between MySQL, MySQLi and PDO?

Specifically, the MySQLi extension provides the following extremely useful benefits over the old MySQL extension..

OOP Interface (in addition to procedural) Prepared Statement Support Transaction + Stored Procedure Support Nicer Syntax Speed Improvements Enhanced Debugging

PDO Extension

PHP Data Objects extension is a Database Abstraction Layer. Specifically, this is not a MySQL interface, as it provides drivers for many database engines (of course including MYSQL).

PDO aims to provide a consistent API that means when a database engine is changed, the code changes to reflect this should be minimal. When using PDO, your code will normally "just work" across many database engines, simply by changing the driver you're using.

In addition to being cross-database compatible, PDO also supports prepared statements, stored procedures and more, whilst using the MySQL Driver.

Need to find a max of three numbers in java

Two things: Change the variables x, y, z as int and call the method as Math.max(Math.max(x,y),z) as it accepts two parameters only.

In Summary, change below:

    String x = keyboard.nextLine();
    String y = keyboard.nextLine();
    String z = keyboard.nextLine();
    int max = Math.max(x,y,z);

to

    int x = keyboard.nextInt();
    int y = keyboard.nextInt();
    int z = keyboard.nextInt();
    int max =  Math.max(Math.max(x,y),z);

How should I deal with "package 'xxx' is not available (for R version x.y.z)" warning?

I made the mistake of forgetting to put repos=NULL when installing the R package from source code. In this case the error message is slightly misleading: package 'foobarbaz' is not available (for R version x.y.z)

The problem was not the version of R, it was the repos parameter. I did install.packages('path/to/source/code/of/foobarbaz', type='source', repos=NULL) which worked for me in this occasion.

Hope this helps someone.

Is there any way to set environment variables in Visual Studio Code?

My response is fairly late. I faced the same problem. I am on Windows 10. This is what I did:

  • Open a new Command prompt (CMD.EXE)
  • Set the environment variables . set myvar1=myvalue1
  • Launch VS Code from that Command prompt by typing code and then press ENTER
  • VS code was launched and it inherited all the custom variables that I had set in the parent CMD window

Optionally, you can also use the Control Panel -> System properties window to set the variables on a more permanent basis

Hope this helps.

How to create a database from shell command?

How do you get current active/default Environment profile programmatically in Spring?

And if you neither want to use @Autowire nor injecting @Value you can simply do (with fallback included):

System.getProperty("spring.profiles.active", "unknown");

This will return any active profile (or fallback to 'unknown').

Convert Text to Date?

You can quickly convert a column of text that resembles dates into actual dates with the VBA equivalent of the worksheet's Data ? Text-to-Columns command.

With ActiveSheet.UsedRange.Columns("A").Cells
    .TextToColumns Destination:=.Cells(1), DataType:=xlFixedWidth, FieldInfo:=Array(0, xlYMDFormat)
    .NumberFormat = "yyyy-mm-dd" 'change to any date-based number format you prefer the cells to display
End With

Bulk operations are generally much quicker than looping through cells and the VBA's Range.TextToColumns method is very quick. It also allows you the freedom to set a MDY vs. DMY or YMD conversion mask that plagues many text imports where the date format does not match the system's regional settings. See TextFileColumnDataTypes property for a complete list of the available date formats available.

Caveat: Be careful when importing text that some of the dates have not already been converted. A text-based date with ambiguous month and day integers may already been converted wrongly; e.g. 07/11/2015 may have been interpreted as 07-Nov-2015 or 11-Jul-2015 depending upon system regional settings. In cases like this, abandon the import and bring the text back in with Data ? Get External Data ? From Text and specify the correct date conversion mask in the Text Import wizard. In VBA, use the Workbooks.OpenText method and specify the xlColumnDataType.

This compilation unit is not on the build path of a Java project

If it is a Maven project then sometimes re-importing of it helps:

  1. Right-click the project in the Project Explorer and choose Delete.
  2. File > Import... > Maven > Existing Maven Projects > Next > Root Directory > Browse your project from Disk.

Hope it will resolve the issue.

Position DIV relative to another DIV?

You want to use position: absolute while inside the other div.

DEMO

What is the difference between function and procedure in PL/SQL?

A procedure does not have a return value, whereas a function has.

Example:

CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE my_proc
   (p_name IN VARCHAR2 := 'John') as begin ... end

CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION my_func
   (p_name IN VARCHAR2 := 'John') return varchar2 as begin ... end

Notice how the function has a return clause between the parameter list and the "as" keyword. This means that it is expected to have the last statement inside the body of the function read something like:

return(my_varchar2_local_variable);

Where my_varchar2_local_variable is some varchar2 that should be returned by that function.

Remove characters from C# string

I might as well throw this out here.

Make an extension to remove chars from a string:

public static string RemoveChars(this string input, params char[] chars)
{
    var sb = new StringBuilder();
    for (int i = 0; i < input.Length; i++)
    {
        if (!chars.Contains(input[i]))
            sb.Append(input[i]);
    }
    return sb.ToString();
}

And it's usable like this:

string str = "My name @is ,Wan.;'; Wan";
string cleanedUpString = str.RemoveChars('@', ',', '.', ';', '\'');

Or just like this:

string str = "My name @is ,Wan.;'; Wan".RemoveChars('@', ',', '.', ';', '\'');

How do you calculate the variance, median, and standard deviation in C++ or Java?

To calculate the mean, loop through the list/array of numbers, keeping track of the partial sums and the length. Then return the sum/length.

double sum = 0.0;
int length = 0;

for( double number : numbers ) {
    sum += number;
    length++;
}

return sum/length;

Variance is calculated similarly. Standard deviation is simply the square root of the variance:

double stddev = Math.sqrt( variance );

Always show vertical scrollbar in <select>

I guess you cant, this maybe a limitation or not included in the IE browser. I have tried your jsfiddle with IE6-8 and all of it doesn't show the scrollbar and not sure with IE9. While in FF and chrome the scrollbar is shown. I also want to see how to do it in IE if possible.

If you really want to show the scrollbar, you can add a fake scrollbar. If you are familiar with some of the js library which use in RIA. Like in jquery/dojo some of the select is editable, because it is a combination of textbox + select or it can also be a textbox + div.

As an example, see it here a JavaScript that make select like editable.

Safely remove migration In Laravel

 php artisan migrate:fresh

Select2() is not a function

So make sure that $("#selector") exists by doing

if ($("#selector").length > 0)
   $("#selector").select2();

ASP.NET Core Web API exception handling

First, configure ASP.NET Core 2 Startup to re-execute to an error page for any errors from the web server and any unhandled exceptions.

public void Configure(IApplicationBuilder app, IHostingEnvironment env)
{
    if (env.IsDevelopment()) {
        // Debug config here...
    } else {
        app.UseStatusCodePagesWithReExecute("/Error");
        app.UseExceptionHandler("/Error");
    }
    // More config...
}

Next, define an exception type that will let you throw errors with HTTP status codes.

public class HttpException : Exception
{
    public HttpException(HttpStatusCode statusCode) { StatusCode = statusCode; }
    public HttpStatusCode StatusCode { get; private set; }
}

Finally, in your controller for the error page, customize the response based on the reason for the error and whether the response will be seen directly by an end user. This code assumes all API URLs start with /api/.

[AllowAnonymous]
public IActionResult Error()
{
    // Gets the status code from the exception or web server.
    var statusCode = HttpContext.Features.Get<IExceptionHandlerFeature>()?.Error is HttpException httpEx ?
        httpEx.StatusCode : (HttpStatusCode)Response.StatusCode;

    // For API errors, responds with just the status code (no page).
    if (HttpContext.Features.Get<IHttpRequestFeature>().RawTarget.StartsWith("/api/", StringComparison.Ordinal))
        return StatusCode((int)statusCode);

    // Creates a view model for a user-friendly error page.
    string text = null;
    switch (statusCode) {
        case HttpStatusCode.NotFound: text = "Page not found."; break;
        // Add more as desired.
    }
    return View("Error", new ErrorViewModel { RequestId = Activity.Current?.Id ?? HttpContext.TraceIdentifier, ErrorText = text });
}

ASP.NET Core will log the error detail for you to debug with, so a status code may be all you want to provide to a (potentially untrusted) requester. If you want to show more info, you can enhance HttpException to provide it. For API errors, you can put JSON-encoded error info in the message body by replacing return StatusCode... with return Json....

How to convert these strange characters? (ë, Ã, ì, ù, Ã)

Even though utf8_decode is a useful solution, I prefer to correct the encoding errors on the table itself. In my opinion it is better to correct the bad characters themselves than making "hacks" in the code. Simply do a replace on the field on the table. To correct the bad encoded characters from OP :

update <table> set <field> = replace(<field>, "ë", "ë")
update <table> set <field> = replace(<field>, "Ã", "à")
update <table> set <field> = replace(<field>, "ì", "ì")
update <table> set <field> = replace(<field>, "ù", "ù")

Where <table> is the name of the mysql table and <field> is the name of the column in the table. Here is a very good check-list for those typically bad encoded windows-1252 to utf-8 characters -> Debugging Chart Mapping Windows-1252 Characters to UTF-8 Bytes to Latin-1 Characters.

Remember to backup your table before trying to replace any characters with SQL!

[I know this is an answer to a very old question, but was facing the issue once again. Some old windows machine didnt encoded the text correct before inserting it to the utf8_general_ci collated table.]

Get the closest number out of an array

A simpler way with O(n) time complexity is to do this in one iteration of the array. This method is intended for unsorted arrays.

Following is a javascript example, here from the array we find the number which is nearest to "58".

_x000D_
_x000D_
var inputArr = [150, 5, 200, 50, 30];
var search = 58;
var min = Math.min();
var result = 0;
for(i=0;i<inputArr.length;i++) {
  let absVal = Math.abs(search - inputArr[i])
  if(min > absVal) {
    min=absVal;
    result = inputArr[i];
  }
}
console.log(result); //expected output 50 if input is 58
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

This will work for positive, negative, decimal numbers as well.

Math.min() will return Infinity.

The result will store the value nearest to the search element.

How can I enter latitude and longitude in Google Maps?

Error: Cannot pull with rebase: You have unstaged changes

You can always do

git fetch && git merge --ff-only origin/master

and you will either get (a) no change if you have uncommitted changes that conflict with upstream changes or (b) the same effect as stash/pull/apply: a rebase to put you on the latest changes from HEAD and your uncommitted changes left as is.
