Set Locale programmatically

As no answer is complete for the current way to solve this problem, I try to give instructions for a complete solution. Please comment if something is missing or could be done better.

General information

First, there exist some libraries that want to solve the problem but they all seem outdated or are missing some features:

Further I think writing a library might not be a good/easy way to solve this problem because there is not very much to do, and what has to be done is rather changing existing code than using something completely decoupled. Therefore I composed the following instructions that should be complete.

My solution is mainly based on https://github.com/gunhansancar/ChangeLanguageExample (as already linked to by localhost). It is the best code I found to orientate at. Some remarks:

  • As necessary, it provides different implementations to change locale for Android N (and above) and below
  • It uses a method updateViews() in each Activity to manually update all strings after changing locale (using the usual getString(id)) which is not necessary in the approach shown below
  • It only supports languages and not complete locales (which also include region (country) and variant codes)

I changed it a bit, decoupling the part which persists the chosen locale (as one might want to do that separately, as suggested below).

Solution

The solution consists of the following two steps:

  • Permanently change the locale to be used by the app
  • Make the app use the custom locale set, without restarting

Step 1: Change the locale

Use the class LocaleHelper, based on gunhansancar's LocaleHelper:

  • Add a ListPreference in a PreferenceFragment with the available languages (has to be maintained when languages should be added later)
import android.annotation.TargetApi;
import android.content.Context;
import android.content.SharedPreferences;
import android.content.res.Configuration;
import android.content.res.Resources;
import android.os.Build;
import android.preference.PreferenceManager;

import java.util.Locale;

import mypackage.SettingsFragment;

/**
 * Manages setting of the app's locale.
 */
public class LocaleHelper {

    public static Context onAttach(Context context) {
        String locale = getPersistedLocale(context);
        return setLocale(context, locale);
    }

    public static String getPersistedLocale(Context context) {
        SharedPreferences preferences = PreferenceManager.getDefaultSharedPreferences(context);
        return preferences.getString(SettingsFragment.KEY_PREF_LANGUAGE, "");
    }

    /**
     * Set the app's locale to the one specified by the given String.
     *
     * @param context
     * @param localeSpec a locale specification as used for Android resources (NOTE: does not
     * support country and variant codes so far); the special string "system" sets
     * the locale to the locale specified in system settings
     * @return
     */
    public static Context setLocale(Context context, String localeSpec) {
        Locale locale;
        if (localeSpec.equals("system")) {
            if (Build.VERSION.SDK_INT >= Build.VERSION_CODES.N) {
                locale = Resources.getSystem().getConfiguration().getLocales().get(0);
            } else {
                //noinspection deprecation
                locale = Resources.getSystem().getConfiguration().locale;
            }
        } else {
            locale = new Locale(localeSpec);
        }
        Locale.setDefault(locale);
        if (Build.VERSION.SDK_INT >= Build.VERSION_CODES.N) {
            return updateResources(context, locale);
        } else {
            return updateResourcesLegacy(context, locale);
        }
    }

    @TargetApi(Build.VERSION_CODES.N)
    private static Context updateResources(Context context, Locale locale) {
        Configuration configuration = context.getResources().getConfiguration();
        configuration.setLocale(locale);
        configuration.setLayoutDirection(locale);

        return context.createConfigurationContext(configuration);
    }

    @SuppressWarnings("deprecation")
    private static Context updateResourcesLegacy(Context context, Locale locale) {
        Resources resources = context.getResources();

        Configuration configuration = resources.getConfiguration();
        configuration.locale = locale;
        if (Build.VERSION.SDK_INT >= Build.VERSION_CODES.JELLY_BEAN_MR1) {
            configuration.setLayoutDirection(locale);
        }

        resources.updateConfiguration(configuration, resources.getDisplayMetrics());

        return context;
    }
}

Create a SettingsFragment like the following:

import android.content.SharedPreferences;
import android.os.Bundle;
import android.preference.PreferenceFragment;
import android.preference.PreferenceManager;
import android.view.LayoutInflater;
import android.view.View;
import android.view.ViewGroup;

import mypackage.LocaleHelper;
import mypackage.R;

/**
 * Fragment containing the app's main settings.
 */
public class SettingsFragment extends PreferenceFragment implements SharedPreferences.OnSharedPreferenceChangeListener {
    public static final String KEY_PREF_LANGUAGE = "pref_key_language";

    public SettingsFragment() {
        // Required empty public constructor
    }

    @Override
    public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
        super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
        addPreferencesFromResource(R.xml.preferences);
    }

    @Override
    public View onCreateView(LayoutInflater inflater, ViewGroup container, Bundle savedInstanceState) {
        View view = inflater.inflate(R.layout.fragment_settings, container, false);
        return view;
    }

    @Override
    public void onSharedPreferenceChanged(SharedPreferences sharedPreferences, String key) {
        switch (key) {
            case KEY_PREF_LANGUAGE:
                LocaleHelper.setLocale(getContext(), PreferenceManager.getDefaultSharedPreferences(getContext()).getString(key, ""));
                getActivity().recreate(); // necessary here because this Activity is currently running and thus a recreate() in onResume() would be too late
                break;
        }
    }

    @Override
    public void onResume() {
        super.onResume();
        // documentation requires that a reference to the listener is kept as long as it may be called, which is the case as it can only be called from this Fragment
        getPreferenceScreen().getSharedPreferences().registerOnSharedPreferenceChangeListener(this);
    }

    @Override
    public void onPause() {
        super.onPause();
        getPreferenceScreen().getSharedPreferences().unregisterOnSharedPreferenceChangeListener(this);
    }
}

Create a resource locales.xml listing all locales with available translations in the following way (list of locale codes):

<!-- Lists available locales used for setting the locale manually.
     For now only language codes (locale codes without country and variant) are supported.
     Has to be in sync with "settings_language_values" in strings.xml (the entries must correspond).
  -->
<resources>
    <string name="system_locale" translatable="false">system</string>
    <string name="default_locale" translatable="false"></string>
    <string-array name="locales">
        <item>@string/system_locale</item> <!-- system setting -->
        <item>@string/default_locale</item> <!-- default locale -->
        <item>de</item>
    </string-array>
</resources>

In your PreferenceScreen you can use the following section to let the user select the available languages:

<PreferenceScreen xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
    <PreferenceCategory
        android:title="@string/preferences_category_general">
        <ListPreference
            android:key="pref_key_language"
            android:title="@string/preferences_language"
            android:dialogTitle="@string/preferences_language"
            android:entries="@array/settings_language_values"
            android:entryValues="@array/locales"
            android:defaultValue="@string/system_locale"
            android:summary="%s">
        </ListPreference>
    </PreferenceCategory>
</PreferenceScreen>

which uses the following strings from strings.xml:

<string name="preferences_category_general">General</string>
<string name="preferences_language">Language</string>
<!-- NOTE: Has to correspond to array "locales" in locales.xml (elements in same orderwith) -->
<string-array name="settings_language_values">
    <item>Default (System setting)</item>
    <item>English</item>
    <item>German</item>
</string-array>

Step 2: Make the app use the custom locale

Now setup each Activity to use the custom locale set. The easiest way to accomplish this is to have a common base class for all activities with the following code (where the important code is in attachBaseContext(Context base) and onResume()):

import android.content.Context;
import android.content.Intent;
import android.content.pm.PackageInfo;
import android.content.pm.PackageManager;
import android.os.Bundle;
import android.support.annotation.Nullable;
import android.support.v7.app.AppCompatActivity;
import android.view.Menu;
import android.view.MenuInflater;
import android.view.MenuItem;

import mypackage.LocaleHelper;
import mypackage.R;

/**
 * {@link AppCompatActivity} with main menu in the action bar. Automatically recreates
 * the activity when the locale has changed.
 */
public class MenuAppCompatActivity extends AppCompatActivity {
    private String initialLocale;

    @Override
    protected void onCreate(@Nullable Bundle savedInstanceState) {
        super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
        initialLocale = LocaleHelper.getPersistedLocale(this);
    }

    @Override
    public boolean onCreateOptionsMenu(Menu menu) {
        MenuInflater inflater = getMenuInflater();
        inflater.inflate(R.menu.menu, menu);
        return true;
    }

    @Override
    public boolean onOptionsItemSelected(MenuItem item) {
        switch (item.getItemId()) {
            case R.id.menu_settings:
                Intent intent = new Intent(this, SettingsActivity.class);
                startActivity(intent);
                return true;
            default:
                return super.onOptionsItemSelected(item);
        }
    }

    @Override
    protected void attachBaseContext(Context base) {
        super.attachBaseContext(LocaleHelper.onAttach(base));
    }

    @Override
    protected void onResume() {
        super.onResume();
        if (initialLocale != null && !initialLocale.equals(LocaleHelper.getPersistedLocale(this))) {
            recreate();
        }
    }
}

What it does is

  • Override attachBaseContext(Context base) to use the locale previously persisted with LocaleHelper
  • Detect a change of the locale and recreate the Activity to update its strings

Notes on this solution

  • Recreating an Activity does not update the title of the ActionBar (as already observed here: https://github.com/gunhansancar/ChangeLanguageExample/issues/1).

    • This can be achieved by simply having a setTitle(R.string.mytitle) in the onCreate() method of each activity.
  • It lets the user chose the system default locale, as well as the default locale of the app (which can be named, in this case "English").

  • Only language codes, no region (country) and variant codes (like fr-rCA) are supported so far. To support full locale specifications, a parser similar to that in the Android-Languages library can be used (which supports region but no variant codes).

    • If someone finds or has written a good parser, add a comment so I can include it in the solution.

How is __eq__ handled in Python and in what order?

When Python2.x sees a == b, it tries the following.

  • If type(b) is a new-style class, and type(b) is a subclass of type(a), and type(b) has overridden __eq__, then the result is b.__eq__(a).
  • If type(a) has overridden __eq__ (that is, type(a).__eq__ isn't object.__eq__), then the result is a.__eq__(b).
  • If type(b) has overridden __eq__, then the result is b.__eq__(a).
  • If none of the above are the case, Python repeats the process looking for __cmp__. If it exists, the objects are equal iff it returns zero.
  • As a final fallback, Python calls object.__eq__(a, b), which is True iff a and b are the same object.

If any of the special methods return NotImplemented, Python acts as though the method didn't exist.

Note that last step carefully: if neither a nor b overloads ==, then a == b is the same as a is b.

From https://eev.ee/blog/2012/03/24/python-faq-equality/

Index (zero based) must be greater than or equal to zero

Your second String.Format uses {2} as a placeholder but you're only passing in one argument, so you should use {0} instead.

Change this:

String.Format("{2}", reader.GetString(0));

To this:

String.Format("{0}", reader.GetString(2));

Convert a number range to another range, maintaining ratio

I personally use the helper class which supports generics (Swift 3, 4.x compatible)

struct Rescale<Type : BinaryFloatingPoint> {
    typealias RescaleDomain = (lowerBound: Type, upperBound: Type)

    var fromDomain: RescaleDomain
    var toDomain: RescaleDomain

    init(from: RescaleDomain, to: RescaleDomain) {
        self.fromDomain = from
        self.toDomain = to
    }

    func interpolate(_ x: Type ) -> Type {
        return self.toDomain.lowerBound * (1 - x) + self.toDomain.upperBound * x;
    }

    func uninterpolate(_ x: Type) -> Type {
        let b = (self.fromDomain.upperBound - self.fromDomain.lowerBound) != 0 ? self.fromDomain.upperBound - self.fromDomain.lowerBound : 1 / self.fromDomain.upperBound;
        return (x - self.fromDomain.lowerBound) / b
    }

    func rescale(_ x: Type )  -> Type {
        return interpolate( uninterpolate(x) )
    }
}

Ex:

   let rescaler = Rescale<Float>(from: (-1, 1), to: (0, 100))

   print(rescaler.rescale(0)) // OUTPUT: 50

How do I change the font size and color in an Excel Drop Down List?

Try making the whole sheet font size smaller. Then zoom and save. Make a practice sheet first because it really screws everything up.

C# equivalent of the IsNull() function in SQL Server

It's called the null coalescing (??) operator:

myNewValue = myValue ?? new MyValue();

Is there a Boolean data type in Microsoft SQL Server like there is in MySQL?

You may want to use the BIT data type, probably setting is as NOT NULL:

Quoting the MSDN article:

bit (Transact-SQL)

An integer data type that can take a value of 1, 0, or NULL.

The SQL Server Database Engine optimizes storage of bit columns. If there are 8 or less bit columns in a table, the columns are stored as 1 byte. If there are from 9 up to 16 bit columns, the columns are stored as 2 bytes, and so on.

The string values TRUE and FALSE can be converted to bit values: TRUE is converted to 1 and FALSE is converted to 0.

Multi-dimensional arrays in Bash

After a lot of trial and error i actually find the best, clearest and easiest multidimensional array on bash is to use a regular var. Yep.

Advantages: You don't have to loop through a big array, you can just echo "$var" and use grep/awk/sed. It's easy and clear and you can have as many columns as you like.

Example:

$ var=$(echo -e 'kris hansen oslo\nthomas jonson peru\nbibi abu johnsonville\njohnny lipp peru')

$ echo "$var"
kris hansen oslo
thomas johnson peru
bibi abu johnsonville
johnny lipp peru

If you want to find everyone in peru

$ echo "$var" | grep peru
thomas johnson peru
johnny lipp peru

Only grep(sed) in the third field

$ echo "$var" | sed -n -E '/(.+) (.+) peru/p'
thomas johnson peru
johnny lipp peru

If you only want x field

$ echo "$var" | awk '{print $2}'
hansen
johnson
abu
johnny

Everyone in peru that's called thomas and just return his lastname

$ echo "$var" |grep peru|grep thomas|awk '{print $2}'
johnson

Any query you can think of... supereasy.

To change an item:

$ var=$(echo "$var"|sed "s/thomas/pete/")

To delete a row that contains "x"

$ var=$(echo "$var"|sed "/thomas/d")

To change another field in the same row based on a value from another item

$ var=$(echo "$var"|sed -E "s/(thomas) (.+) (.+)/\1 test \3/")
$ echo "$var"
kris hansen oslo
thomas test peru
bibi abu johnsonville
johnny lipp peru

Of course looping works too if you want to do that

$ for i in "$var"; do echo "$i"; done
kris hansen oslo
thomas jonson peru
bibi abu johnsonville
johnny lipp peru

The only gotcha iv'e found with this is that you must always quote the var(in the example; both var and i) or things will look like this

$ for i in "$var"; do echo $i; done
kris hansen oslo thomas jonson peru bibi abu johnsonville johnny lipp peru

and someone will undoubtedly say it won't work if you have spaces in your input, however that can be fixed by using another delimeter in your input, eg(using an utf8 char now to emphasize that you can choose something your input won't contain, but you can choose whatever ofc):

$ var=$(echo -e 'field one?field two hello?field three yes moin\nfield 1?field 2?field 3 dsdds aq')

$ for i in "$var"; do echo "$i"; done
field one?field two hello?field three yes moin
field 1?field 2?field 3 dsdds aq

$ echo "$var" | awk -F '?' '{print $3}'
field three yes moin
field 3 dsdds aq

$ var=$(echo "$var"|sed -E "s/(field one)?(.+)?(.+)/\1?test?\3/")
$ echo "$var"
field one?test?field three yes moin
field 1?field 2?field 3 dsdds aq

If you want to store newlines in your input, you could convert the newline to something else before input and convert it back again on output(or don't use bash...). Enjoy!

format a Date column in a Data Frame

Android: Use a SWITCH statement with setOnClickListener/onClick for more than 1 button?

And there's yet a third option. In your onCreate() method, find all the button views that you have and save them as class data members. You can then cascade a group of if-else statements to find which is which. It's kind of messy, but it's a must if you don't know the ID of the buttons (which can be complicated if you are generating buttons in java code).

@Override
public void onClick(View v) {
    if (v == m_myCards) {
        Intent intent = new Intent(this, MyCards.class);
        this.startActivity(intent);
    }
    else if (v == m_exit) {
        MyAlertDialog();
    }
    else if (v == m_back) {
        finish();
    }

Another nice thing about this technique is that it's flexible and quick (no having to parse IDs). The bad thing is that you need to keep the widgets in memory.

Don't know which method is better.

Convert wchar_t to char

An easy way is :

        wstring your_wchar_in_ws(<your wchar>);
        string your_wchar_in_str(your_wchar_in_ws.begin(), your_wchar_in_ws.end());
        char* your_wchar_in_char =  your_wchar_in_str.c_str();

I'm using this method for years :)

JavaScript/JQuery: $(window).resize how to fire AFTER the resize is completed?

I prefer to create an event:

$(window).bind('resizeEnd', function() {
    //do something, window hasn't changed size in 500ms
});

Here is how you create it:

 $(window).resize(function() {
        if(this.resizeTO) clearTimeout(this.resizeTO);
        this.resizeTO = setTimeout(function() {
            $(this).trigger('resizeEnd');
        }, 500);
    });

You could have this in a global javascript file somewhere.

TSQL PIVOT MULTIPLE COLUMNS

Since you want to pivot multiple columns of data, I would first suggest unpivoting the result, score and grade columns so you don't have multiple columns but you will have multiple rows.

Depending on your version of SQL Server you can use the UNPIVOT function or CROSS APPLY. The syntax to unpivot the data will be similar to:

select ratio, col, value
from GRAND_TOTALS
cross apply
(
  select 'result', cast(result as varchar(10)) union all
  select 'score', cast(score as varchar(10)) union all
  select 'grade', grade
) c(col, value)

See SQL Fiddle with Demo. Once the data has been unpivoted, then you can apply the PIVOT function:

select ratio = col,
  [current ratio], [gearing ratio], [performance ratio], total
from
(
  select ratio, col, value
  from GRAND_TOTALS
  cross apply
  (
    select 'result', cast(result as varchar(10)) union all
    select 'score', cast(score as varchar(10)) union all
    select 'grade', grade
  ) c(col, value)
) d
pivot
(
  max(value)
  for ratio in ([current ratio], [gearing ratio], [performance ratio], total)
) piv;

See SQL Fiddle with Demo. This will give you the result:

|  RATIO | CURRENT RATIO | GEARING RATIO | PERFORMANCE RATIO |     TOTAL |
|--------|---------------|---------------|-------------------|-----------|
|  grade |          Good |          Good |      Satisfactory |      Good |
| result |       1.29400 |       0.33840 |           0.04270 |    (null) |
|  score |      60.00000 |      70.00000 |          50.00000 | 180.00000 |

Download and open PDF file using Ajax

I don't really think that any of the past answers spotted out the problem of the original poster. They all presume a GET request while the poster was trying to POST data and get a download in response.

In the course of searching for any better answer we found this jQuery Plugin for Requesting Ajax-like File Downloads.

In its "heart" it creates a "temporary" HTML form containing the given data as input fields. This form is appended to the document and posted to the desired URL. Right after that the form is removed again:

jQuery('<form action="'+ url +'" method="'+ (method||'post') +'">'+inputs+'</form>')
    .appendTo('body').submit().remove()

Update Mayur's answer looks pretty promising and very simple in comparison to the jQuery plug-in I referred to.

How to have the cp command create any necessary folders for copying a file to a destination

There is no such option. What you can do is to run mkdir -p before copying the file

I made a very cool script you can use to copy files in locations that doesn't exist

#!/bin/bash
if [ ! -d "$2" ]; then
    mkdir -p "$2"
fi
cp -R "$1" "$2"

Now just save it, give it permissions and run it using

./cp-improved SOURCE DEST

I put -R option but it's just a draft, I know it can be and you will improve it in many ways. Hope it helps you

How do I disable TextBox using JavaScript?

How can I post data as form data instead of a request payload?

Use AngularJS $http service and use its post method or configure $http function.

import android packages cannot be resolved

May be you are using this checking :

if (Build.VERSION.SDK_INT < Build.VERSION_CODES.KITKAT) {
}

To resolve this you need to import android.provider.DocumentsContract class.

To resolve this issue you'll need to set the build SDK version to 19 (4.4) or higher to have API level 19 symbols available while compiling.

First, use the SDK Manager to download API 19 if you don't have it yet. Then, configure your project to use API 19:

  • In Android Studio: File -> Project Structure -> General Settings -> Project SDK.
  • In Eclipse ADT: Project Properties -> Android -> Project Build Target

How to open a workbook specifying its path

You can also open a required file through a prompt, This helps when you want to select file from different path and different file.

Sub openwb()
Dim wkbk As Workbook

Android design support library for API 28 (P) not working

Note: You should not use the com.android.support and com.google.android.material dependencies in your app at the same time.

Add Material Components for Android in your build.gradle(app) file

dependencies {
    // ...
    implementation 'com.google.android.material:material:1.0.0-beta01'
    // ...
  }

If your app currently depends on the original Design Support Library, you can make use of the Refactor to AndroidX… option provided by Android Studio. Doing so will update your app’s dependencies and code to use the newly packaged androidx and com.google.android.material libraries.

If you don’t want to switch over to the new androidx and com.google.android.material packages yet, you can use Material Components via the com.android.support:design:28.0.0-alpha3 dependency.

WebAPI Multiple Put/Post parameters

What does your routeTemplate look like for this case?

You posted this url:

/offers/40D5E19D-0CD5-4FBD-92F8-43FDBB475333/prices/

In order for this to work I would expect a routing like this in your WebApiConfig:

routeTemplate: {controller}/{offerId}/prices/

Other assumptions are: - your controller is called OffersController. - the JSON object you are passing in the request body is of type OfferPriceParameters (not any derived type) - you don't have any other methods on the controller that could interfere with this one (if you do, try commenting them out and see what happens)

And as Filip mentioned it would help your questions if you started accepting some answers as 'accept rate of 0%' might make people think that they are wasting their time

Android, landscape only orientation?

When you are in android studio 3 or above you need to add following lines AndroidManifest.xml file

<activity

            android:configChanges="orientation"
            android:screenOrientation= "sensorLandscape"

But if you only want to work the regular landscape side then, replace sensorLandscape to landscape

PostgreSQL 'NOT IN' and subquery

You could also use a LEFT JOIN and IS NULL condition:

SELECT
  mac,
  creation_date
FROM
  logs
    LEFT JOIN consols ON logs.mac = consols.mac
WHERE
  logs_type_id=11
AND
  consols.mac IS NULL;

An index on the "mac" columns might improve performance.

What's the difference between <mvc:annotation-driven /> and <context:annotation-config /> in servlet?

mvc:annotation-driven is a tag added in Spring 3.0 which does the following:

  1. Configures the Spring 3 Type ConversionService (alternative to PropertyEditors)
  2. Adds support for formatting Number fields with @NumberFormat
  3. Adds support for formatting Date, Calendar, and Joda Time fields with @DateTimeFormat, if Joda Time is on the classpath
  4. Adds support for validating @Controller inputs with @Valid, if a JSR-303 Provider is on the classpath
  5. Adds support for support for reading and writing XML, if JAXB is on the classpath (HTTP message conversion with @RequestBody/@ResponseBody)
  6. Adds support for reading and writing JSON, if Jackson is o n the classpath (along the same lines as #5)

context:annotation-config Looks for annotations on beans in the same application context it is defined and declares support for all the general annotations like @Autowired, @Resource, @Required, @PostConstruct etc etc.

y = numpy.power(x, 2)

fig = plt.figure()
ax = fig.gca()
ax.set_xticks(numpy.arange(0, 1, 0.1))
ax.set_yticks(numpy.arange(0, 1., 0.1))
plt.scatter(x, y)
plt.grid()
plt.show()

ax.xaxis.grid and ax.yaxis.grid can control grid lines properties.

How can you dynamically create variables via a while loop?

Keyword parameters allow you to pass variables from one function to another. In this way you can use the key of a dictionary as a variable name (which can be populated in your while loop). The dictionary name just needs to be preceded by ** when it is called.

# create a dictionary
>>> kwargs = {}
# add a key of name and assign it a value, later we'll use this key as a variable
>>> kwargs['name'] = 'python'

# an example function to use the variable
>>> def print_name(name):
...   print name

# call the example function
>>> print_name(**kwargs)
python

Without **, kwargs is just a dictionary:

>>> print_name(kwargs)
{'name': 'python'}

Iterate a certain number of times without storing the iteration number anywhere

exec 'print "hello";' * 2

should work, but I'm kind of ashamed that I thought of it.

Update: Just thought of another one:

How do I get the offset().top value of an element without using jQuery?

the accepted solution by Patrick Evans doesn't take scrolling into account. i've slightly changed his jsfiddle to demonstrate this:

css: add some random height to make sure we got some space to scroll

body{height:3000px;}

js: set some scroll position

jQuery(window).scrollTop(100);

as a result the two reported values differ now: http://jsfiddle.net/sNLMe/66/

UPDATE Feb. 14 2015

there is a pull request for jqLite waiting, including its own offset method (taking care of current scroll position). have a look at the source in case you want to implement it yourself: https://github.com/angular/angular.js/pull/3799/files

How do I quickly rename a MySQL database (change schema name)?

Well there are 2 methods:

Method 1: A well-known method for renaming database schema is by dumping the schema using Mysqldump and restoring it in another schema, and then dropping the old schema (if needed).

From Shell

 mysqldump emp > emp.out
 mysql -e "CREATE DATABASE employees;"
 mysql employees < emp.out
 mysql -e "DROP DATABASE emp;"

Although the above method is easy, it is time and space consuming. What if the schema is more than a 100GB? There are methods where you can pipe the above commands together to save on space, however it will not save time.

To remedy such situations, there is another quick method to rename schemas, however, some care must be taken while doing it.

Method 2: MySQL has a very good feature for renaming tables that even works across different schemas. This rename operation is atomic and no one else can access the table while its being renamed. This takes a short time to complete since changing a table’s name or its schema is only a metadata change. Here is procedural approach at doing the rename:

Create the new database schema with the desired name. Rename the tables from old schema to new schema, using MySQL’s “RENAME TABLE” command. Drop the old database schema. If there are views, triggers, functions, stored procedures in the schema, those will need to be recreated too. MySQL’s “RENAME TABLE” fails if there are triggers exists on the tables. To remedy this we can do the following things :

1) Dump the triggers, events and stored routines in a separate file. This done using -E, -R flags (in addition to -t -d which dumps the triggers) to the mysqldump command. Once triggers are dumped, we will need to drop them from the schema, for RENAME TABLE command to work.

 $ mysqldump <old_schema_name> -d -t -R -E > stored_routines_triggers_events.out

2) Generate a list of only “BASE” tables. These can be found using a query on information_schema.TABLES table.

 mysql> select TABLE_NAME from information_schema.tables where
    table_schema='<old_schema_name>' and TABLE_TYPE='BASE TABLE';

3) Dump the views in an out file. Views can be found using a query on the same information_schema.TABLES table.

mysql> select TABLE_NAME from information_schema.tables where
   table_schema='<old_schema_name>' and TABLE_TYPE='VIEW';
 $ mysqldump <database> <view1> <view2> … > views.out

4) Drop the triggers on the current tables in the old_schema.

mysql> DROP TRIGGER <trigger_name>;
...

5) Restore the above dump files once all the “Base” tables found in step #2 are renamed.

mysql> RENAME TABLE <old_schema>.table_name TO <new_schema>.table_name;
...
$ mysql <new_schema> < views.out
$ mysql <new_schema> < stored_routines_triggers_events.out

Intricacies with above methods : We may need to update the GRANTS for users such that they match the correct schema_name. These could fixed with a simple UPDATE on mysql.columns_priv, mysql.procs_priv, mysql.tables_priv, mysql.db tables updating the old_schema name to new_schema and calling “Flush privileges;”. Although “method 2" seems a bit more complicated than the “method 1", this is totally scriptable. A simple bash script to carry out the above steps in proper sequence, can help you save space and time while renaming database schemas next time.

The Percona Remote DBA team have written a script called “rename_db” that works in the following way :

[root@dba~]# /tmp/rename_db
rename_db <server> <database> <new_database>

To demonstrate the use of this script, used a sample schema “emp”, created test triggers, stored routines on that schema. Will try to rename the database schema using the script, which takes some seconds to complete as opposed to time consuming dump/restore method.

mysql> show databases;
+--------------------+
| Database           |
+--------------------+
| information_schema |
| emp                |
| mysql              |
| performance_schema |
| test               |
+--------------------+

[root@dba ~]# time /tmp/rename_db localhost emp emp_test
create database emp_test DEFAULT CHARACTER SET latin1
drop trigger salary_trigger
rename table emp.__emp_new to emp_test.__emp_new
rename table emp._emp_new to emp_test._emp_new
rename table emp.departments to emp_test.departments
rename table emp.dept to emp_test.dept
rename table emp.dept_emp to emp_test.dept_emp
rename table emp.dept_manager to emp_test.dept_manager
rename table emp.emp to emp_test.emp
rename table emp.employees to emp_test.employees
rename table emp.salaries_temp to emp_test.salaries_temp
rename table emp.titles to emp_test.titles

loading triggers, routines and events
Dropping database emp

real    0m0.643s
user    0m0.053s
sys     0m0.131s

mysql> show databases;
+--------------------+
| Database           |
+--------------------+
| information_schema |
| emp_test           |
| mysql              |
| performance_schema |
| test               |
+--------------------+

As you can see in the above output the database schema “emp” was renamed to “emp_test” in less than a second. Lastly, This is the script from Percona that is used above for “method 2".

How to link 2 cell of excel sheet?

The simplest solution is to select the second cell, and press =. This will begin the fomula creation process. Now either type in the 1st cell reference (eg, A1) or click on the first cell and press enter. This should make the second cell reference the value of the first cell.

Rename file with Git

You can rename a file using git's mv command:

$ git mv file_from file_to

Example:

$ git mv helo.txt hello.txt

$ git status
# On branch master
# Changes to be committed:
# (use "git reset HEAD <file>..." to unstage)
#
#   renamed:    helo.txt -> hello.txt
#

$ git commit -m "renamed helo.txt to hello.txt"
[master 14c8c4f] renamed helo.txt to hello.txt
 1 files changed, 0 insertions(+), 0 deletions(-)

Change a Rails application to production

rails s -e production

This will run the server with RAILS_ENV = 'production'.

Apart from this you have to set the assets path in production.rb

config.serve_static_assets = true

Without this your assets will not be loaded.

Event system in Python

We use an EventHook as suggested from Michael Foord in his Event Pattern:

Just add EventHooks to your classes with:

class MyBroadcaster()
    def __init__():
        self.onChange = EventHook()

theBroadcaster = MyBroadcaster()

# add a listener to the event
theBroadcaster.onChange += myFunction

# remove listener from the event
theBroadcaster.onChange -= myFunction

# fire event
theBroadcaster.onChange.fire()

We add the functionality to remove all listener from an object to Michaels class and ended up with this:

class EventHook(object):

    def __init__(self):
        self.__handlers = []

    def __iadd__(self, handler):
        self.__handlers.append(handler)
        return self

    def __isub__(self, handler):
        self.__handlers.remove(handler)
        return self

    def fire(self, *args, **keywargs):
        for handler in self.__handlers:
            handler(*args, **keywargs)

    def clearObjectHandlers(self, inObject):
        for theHandler in self.__handlers:
            if theHandler.im_self == inObject:
                self -= theHandler

Database corruption with MariaDB : Table doesn't exist in engine

You may try to:

  • backup your database folder from C:\xampp\mysql\data (.frm & .ibd files only corresponding your table names)
  • reinstall xampp and recopy DB folder at C:\xampp\mysql\data
  • modify my.ini add

    [mysqld]
    innodb_file_per_table = on

  • then open phpmyadmin (or any other DB viewer as Navicat or MYSQL Workbench) and run

    ALTER TABLE tbl_name IMPORT TABLESPACE

    for each table

  • Once you can open your tables make a full mysql dump

  • delete everything and make a clean install

I know, a lot of work to do that you don't need it.

Excel formula to get cell color

Color is not data.

The Get.cell technique has flaws.

  1. It does not update as soon as the cell color changes, but only when the cell (or the sheet) is recalculated.
  2. It does not have sufficient numbers for the millions of colors that are available in modern Excel. See the screenshot and notice how the different intensities of yellow or purple all have the same number.

enter image description here

That does not surprise, since the Get.cell uses an old XML command, i.e. a command from the macro language Excel used before VBA was introduced. At that time, Excel colors were limited to less than 60.

Again: Color is not data.

If you want to color-code your cells, use conditional formatting based on the cell values or based on rules that can be expressed with logical formulas. The logic that leads to conditional formatting can also be used in other places to report on the data, regardless of the color value of the cell.

see if two files have the same content in python

Yes, I think hashing the file would be the best way if you have to compare several files and store hashes for later comparison. As hash can clash, a byte-by-byte comparison may be done depending on the use case.

Generally byte-by-byte comparison would be sufficient and efficient, which filecmp module already does + other things too.

See http://docs.python.org/library/filecmp.html e.g.

>>> import filecmp
>>> filecmp.cmp('file1.txt', 'file1.txt')
True
>>> filecmp.cmp('file1.txt', 'file2.txt')
False

Speed consideration: Usually if only two files have to be compared, hashing them and comparing them would be slower instead of simple byte-by-byte comparison if done efficiently. e.g. code below tries to time hash vs byte-by-byte

Disclaimer: this is not the best way of timing or comparing two algo. and there is need for improvements but it does give rough idea. If you think it should be improved do tell me I will change it.

import random
import string
import hashlib
import time

def getRandText(N):
    return  "".join([random.choice(string.printable) for i in xrange(N)])

N=1000000
randText1 = getRandText(N)
randText2 = getRandText(N)

def cmpHash(text1, text2):
    hash1 = hashlib.md5()
    hash1.update(text1)
    hash1 = hash1.hexdigest()

    hash2 = hashlib.md5()
    hash2.update(text2)
    hash2 = hash2.hexdigest()

    return  hash1 == hash2

def cmpByteByByte(text1, text2):
    return text1 == text2

for cmpFunc in (cmpHash, cmpByteByByte):
    st = time.time()
    for i in range(10):
        cmpFunc(randText1, randText2)
    print cmpFunc.func_name,time.time()-st

and the output is

cmpHash 0.234999895096
cmpByteByByte 0.0

What is the easiest way to initialize a std::vector with hardcoded elements?

In C++0x you will be able to do it in the same way that you did with an array, but not in the current standard.

With only language support you can use:

int tmp[] = { 10, 20, 30 };
std::vector<int> v( tmp, tmp+3 ); // use some utility to avoid hardcoding the size here

If you can add other libraries you could try boost::assignment:

vector<int> v = list_of(10)(20)(30);

To avoid hardcoding the size of an array:

// option 1, typesafe, not a compile time constant
template <typename T, std::size_t N>
inline std::size_t size_of_array( T (&)[N] ) {
   return N;
}
// option 2, not typesafe, compile time constant
#define ARRAY_SIZE(x) (sizeof(x) / sizeof(x[0]))

// option 3, typesafe, compile time constant
template <typename T, std::size_t N>
char (&sizeof_array( T(&)[N] ))[N];    // declared, undefined
#define ARRAY_SIZE(x) sizeof(sizeof_array(x))

Delegation: EventEmitter or Observable in Angular

You need to use the Navigation component in the template of ObservingComponent ( dont't forget to add a selector to Navigation component .. navigation-component for ex )

<navigation-component (navchange)='onNavGhange($event)'></navigation-component>

And implement onNavGhange() in ObservingComponent

onNavGhange(event) {
  console.log(event);
}

Last thing .. you don't need the events attribute in @Componennt

events : ['navchange'],

How can I remove a child node in HTML using JavaScript?

Use the following code:

//for Internet Explorer
document.getElementById("FirstDiv").removeNode(true);

//for other browsers
var fDiv = document.getElementById("FirstDiv");
fDiv.removeChild(fDiv.childNodes[0]); //first check on which node your required node exists, if it is on [0] use this, otherwise use where it exists.

Why is vertical-align: middle not working on my span or div?

This is a modern approach and it utilizes the CSS Flexbox functionality. You can now vertically align the content within your parent container by just adding these styles to the .main container

.main {
        display: flex;
        flex-direction: column;
        justify-content: center;
}

And you are good to go!

     var allVals = $('#c_b :checked').map(function() {
       return $(this).val();
     }).get();
     $('#t').val(allVals)
  }
 $(function() {
   $('#c_b input').click(updateTextArea);
   updateTextArea();
 });

Why does the 'int' object is not callable error occur when using the sum() function?

In the interpreter its easy to restart it and fix such problems. If you don't want to restart the interpreter, there is another way to fix it:

Python 2.6.6 (r266:84292, Dec 27 2010, 00:02:40)
[GCC 4.4.5] on linux2
Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information.
>>> l = [1,2,3]
>>> sum(l)
6
>>> sum = 0 # oops! shadowed a builtin!
>>> sum(l)
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "<stdin>", line 1, in <module>
TypeError: 'int' object is not callable
>>> import sys
>>> sum = sys.modules['__builtin__'].sum # -- fixing sum
>>> sum(l)
6

This also comes in handy if you happened to assign a value to any other builtin, like dict or list

.NET / C# - Convert char[] to string

Use the constructor of string which accepts a char[]

char[] c = ...;
string s = new string(c);

Using awk to print all columns from the nth to the last

You could use a for-loop to loop through printing fields $2 through $NF (built-in variable that represents the number of fields on the line).

Edit: Since "print" appends a newline, you'll want to buffer the results:

awk '{out=""; for(i=2;i<=NF;i++){out=out" "$i}; print out}'

Alternatively, use printf:

awk '{for(i=2;i<=NF;i++){printf "%s ", $i}; printf "\n"}'

Blur the edges of an image or background image with CSS

If what you're looking for is simply to blur the image edges you can simply use the box-shadow with an inset.

Working example: http://jsfiddle.net/d9Q5H/1/

Screenshot

HTML:

<div class="image-blurred-edge"></div>

CSS

.image-blurred-edge {
    background-image: url('http://lorempixel.com/200/200/city/9');
    width: 200px;
    height: 200px;
    /* you need to match the shadow color to your background or image border for the desired effect*/
    box-shadow: 0 0 8px 8px white inset;
}

Best way to Format a Double value to 2 Decimal places

An alternative is to use String.format:

double[] arr = { 23.59004,
    35.7,
    3.0,
    9
};

for ( double dub : arr ) {
  System.out.println( String.format( "%.2f", dub ) );
}

output:

23.59
35.70
3.00
9.00

You could also use System.out.format (same method signature), or create a java.util.Formatter which works in the same way.

How to switch to other branch in Source Tree to commit the code?

  1. Go to the log view (to be able to go here go to View -> log view).
  2. Double click on the line with the branch label stating that branch. Automatically, it will switch branch. (A prompt will dropdown and say switching branch.)
  3. If you have two or more branches on the same line, it will ask you via prompt which branch you want to switch. Choose the specific branch from the dropdown and click ok.

To determine which branch you are now on, look at the side bar, under BRANCHES, you are in the branch that is in BOLD LETTERS.

What is the meaning of single and double underscore before an object name?

Single leading underscores is a convention. there is no difference from the interpreter's point of view if whether names starts with a single underscore or not.

Double leading and trailing underscores are used for built-in methods, such as __init__, __bool__, etc.

Double leading underscores w/o trailing counterparts are a convention too, however, the class methods will be mangled by the interpreter. For variables or basic function names no difference exists.

How to check whether a int is not null or empty?

if your int variable is declared as a class level variable (instance variable) it would be defaulted to 0. But that does not indicate if the value sent from the client was 0 or a null. may be you could have a setter method which could be called to initialize/set the value sent by the client. then you can define your indicator value , may be a some negative value to indicate the null..

text-align: right; not working for <label>

As stated in other answers, label is an inline element. However, you can apply display: inline-block to the label and then center with text-align.

#name_label {
    display: inline-block;
    width: 90%;
    text-align: right;
}

Why display: inline-block and not display: inline? For the same reason that you can't align label, it's inline.

Why display: inline-block and not display: block? You could use display: block, but it will be on another line. display: inline-block combines the properties of inline and block. It's inline, but you can also give it a width, height, and align it.

Dynamically create checkbox with JQuery from text input

One of the elements to consider as you design your interface is on what event (when A takes place, B happens...) does the new checkbox end up being added?

Let's say there is a button next to the text box. When the button is clicked the value of the textbox is turned into a new checkbox. Our markup could resemble the following...

<div id="checkboxes">
    <input type="checkbox" /> Some label<br />
    <input type="checkbox" /> Some other label<br />
</div>

<input type="text" id="newCheckText" /> <button id="addCheckbox">Add Checkbox</button>

Based on this markup your jquery could bind to the click event of the button and manipulate the DOM.

$('#addCheckbox').click(function() {
    var text = $('#newCheckText').val();
    $('#checkboxes').append('<input type="checkbox" /> ' + text + '<br />');
});

What are the options for storing hierarchical data in a relational database?

This is really a square peg, round hole question.

If relational databases and SQL are the only hammer you have or are willing to use, then the answers that have been posted thus far are adequate. However, why not use a tool designed to handle hierarchical data? Graph database are ideal for complex hierarchical data.

The inefficiencies of the relational model along with the complexities of any code/query solution to map a graph/hierarchical model onto a relational model is just not worth the effort when compared to the ease with which a graph database solution can solve the same problem.

Consider a Bill of Materials as a common hierarchical data structure.

class Component extends Vertex {
    long assetId;
    long partNumber;
    long material;
    long amount;
};

class PartOf extends Edge {
};

class AdjacentTo extends Edge {
};

Shortest path between two sub-assemblies: Simple graph traversal algorithm. Acceptable paths can be qualified based on criteria.

Similarity: What is the degree of similarity between two assemblies? Perform a traversal on both sub-trees computing the intersection and union of the two sub-trees. The percent similar is the intersection divided by the union.

Transitive Closure: Walk the sub-tree and sum up the field(s) of interest, e.g. "How much aluminum is in a sub-assembly?"

Yes, you can solve the problem with SQL and a relational database. However, there are much better approaches if you are willing to use the right tool for the job.

Bootstrap Carousel image doesn't align properly

Does your images have exactly a 460px width as the span6 ? In my case, with different image sizes, I put a height attribute on my images to be sure they are all the same height and the carousel don't resize between images.

In your case, try to set a height so the ratio between this height and the width of your carousel-inner div is the same as the aspectRatio of your images

Adding Http Headers to HttpClient

When it can be the same header for all requests or you dispose the client after each request you can use the DefaultRequestHeaders.Add option:

client.DefaultRequestHeaders.Add("apikey","xxxxxxxxx");

Compute elapsed time

Try this...

function Test()
{
    var s1 = new StopWatch();

    s1.Start();

    // Do something.

    s1.Stop();

    alert( s1.ElapsedMilliseconds );
}

// Create a stopwatch "class."
StopWatch = function()
{
    this.StartMilliseconds = 0;
    this.ElapsedMilliseconds = 0;
}

StopWatch.prototype.Start = function()
{
    this.StartMilliseconds = new Date().getTime();
}

StopWatch.prototype.Stop = function()
{
    this.ElapsedMilliseconds = new Date().getTime() - this.StartMilliseconds;
}

What's the difference between Thread start() and Runnable run()

Actually Thread.start() creates a new thread and have its own execution scenario.

Thread.start() calls the run() method asynchronously,which changes the state of new Thread to Runnable.

But Thread.run() does not create any new thread. Instead it execute the run method in the current running thread synchronously.

If you are using Thread.run() then you are not using the features of multi threading at all.

Replace first occurrence of pattern in a string

public string ReplaceFirst(string text, string search, string replace)
{
  int pos = text.IndexOf(search);
  if (pos < 0)
  {
    return text;
  }
  return text.Substring(0, pos) + replace + text.Substring(pos + search.Length);
}

here is an Extension Method that could also work as well per VoidKing request

public static class StringExtensionMethods
{
    public static string ReplaceFirst(this string text, string search, string replace)
    {
      int pos = text.IndexOf(search);
      if (pos < 0)
      {
        return text;
      }
      return text.Substring(0, pos) + replace + text.Substring(pos + search.Length);
    }
}

How to make links in a TextView clickable?

Create an extension method on SpannableString:

private fun SpannableString.setLinkSpan(text: String, url: String) {
    val textIndex = this.indexOf(text)
    setSpan(
        object : ClickableSpan() {
            override fun onClick(widget: View) {
                Intent(Intent.ACTION_VIEW).apply { data = Uri.parse(url) }.also { startActivity(it) }
            }
        },
        textIndex,
        textIndex + text.length,
        Spanned.SPAN_EXCLUSIVE_EXCLUSIVE
    )
}

Use it to make string in your TextView clickable:

    myTextView.apply {
        movementMethod = LinkMovementMethod.getInstance()

        val googleUrl = "http://www.google.com"
        val microsoftUrl = "http://www.microsoft.com"

        val google = "Google"
        val microsoft = "Microsoft"

        val message = SpannableString("$google & $microsoft").apply {
            setLinkSpan(google, googleUrl)
            setLinkSpan(microsoft, microsoftUrl)
        }

        text = message
    }

Enjoy!

Exporting PDF with jspdf not rendering CSS

Slight change to @rejesh-yadav wonderful answer.

html2canvas now returns a promise.

html2canvas(document.body).then(function (canvas) {
    var img = canvas.toDataURL("image/png");
    var doc = new jsPDF();
    doc.addImage(img, 'JPEG', 10, 10);
    doc.save('test.pdf');
});

Hope this helps some!

How to change Jquery UI Slider handle

If you should need to replace the handle with something else entirely, rather than just restyling it:

You can specify custom handle elements by creating and appending the elements and adding the ui-slider-handle class before initialization.

How do I get a class instance of generic type T?

Actually, I suppose you have a field in your class of type T. If there's no field of type T, what's the point of having a generic Type? So, you can simply do an instanceof on that field.

In my case, I have a

List<T> items;
in my class, and I check if the class type is "Locality" by

if (items.get(0) instanceof Locality) ...

Of course, this only works if the total number of possible classes is limited.

Referencing Row Number in R

This is probably the simplest way:

data$rownumber = 1:dim(data)[1]

It's probably worth noting that if you want to select a row by its row index, you can do this with simple bracket notation

data[3,]

vs.

data[data$rownumber==3,]

So I'm not really sure what this new column accomplishes.

Java Map equivalent in C#

Dictionary<,> is the equivalent. While it doesn't have a Get(...) method, it does have an indexed property called Item which you can access in C# directly using index notation:

class Test {
  Dictionary<int,String> entities;

  public String getEntity(int code) {
    return this.entities[code];
  }
}

If you want to use a custom key type then you should consider implementing IEquatable<> and overriding Equals(object) and GetHashCode() unless the default (reference or struct) equality is sufficient for determining equality of keys. You should also make your key type immutable to prevent weird things happening if a key is mutated after it has been inserted into a dictionary (e.g. because the mutation caused its hash code to change).

Dependency Walker reports IESHIMS.DLL and WER.DLL missing?

1· Do I need these DLL's?

It depends since Dependency Walker is a little bit out of date and may report the wrong dependency.

  1. Where can I get them?

most dlls can be found at https://www.dll-files.com

I believe they are supposed to located in C:\Windows\System32\Wer.dll and C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\Ieshims.dll

For me leshims.dll can be placed at C:\Windows\System32\. Context: windows 7 64bit.

How to get the current plugin directory in WordPress?

If you want to get current directory path within a file for that you can magic constants __FILE__ and __DIR__ with plugin_dir_path() function as:

$dir_path = plugin_dir_path( __FILE__ );

CurrentDirectory Path:

/home/user/var/www/wordpress_site/wp-content/plugins/custom-plugin/

__FILE__ magic constant returns current directory path.

If you want to one level up from the current directory. You should use __DIR__ magic constant as:

Current Path:

/home/user/var/www/wordpress_site/wp-content/plugins/custom-plugin/

$dir = plugin_dir_path( __DIR__ );

One level up path:

 /home/user/var/www/wordpress_site/wp-content/plugins/

__DIR__ magic constant returns one level up directory path.

Permission denied error while writing to a file in Python

I write python script with IDLE3.8(python 3.8.0) I have solved this question: if the path is shelve.open('C:\\database.dat') it will be PermissionError: [Errno 13] Permission denied: 'C:\\database.dat.dat'. But when I test to set the path as shelve.open('E:\\database.dat') That is OK!!! Then I test all the drive(such as C,D,F...) on my computer,Only when the Path set in Disk

C:\\

will get the permission denied error. So I think this is a protect path in windows to avoid python script to change or read files in system Disk(Disk C)

How to create a temporary directory/folder in Java?

As discussed in this RFE and its comments, you could call tempDir.delete() first. Or you could use System.getProperty("java.io.tmpdir") and create a directory there. Either way, you should remember to call tempDir.deleteOnExit(), or the file won't be deleted after you're done.

Adding CSRFToken to Ajax request

I had this problem in a list of post in a blog, the post are in a view inside a foreach, then is difficult select it in javascript, and the problem of post method and token also exists.

This the code for javascript at the end of the view, I generate the token in javascript functión inside the view and not in a external js file, then is easy use php lavarel to generate it with csrf_token() function, and send the "delete" method directly in params. You can see that I don´t use in var route: {{ route('post.destroy', $post->id}} because I don´t know the id I want delete until someone click in destroy button, if you don´t have this problem you can use {{ route('post.destroy', $post->id}} or other like this.

  $(function(){
    $(".destroy").on("click", function(){
         var vid = $(this).attr("id");
         var v_token = "{{csrf_token()}}";
         var params = {_method: 'DELETE', _token: v_token};
         var route = "http://imagica.app/posts/" + vid + "";
    $.ajax({
         type: "POST",
         url: route,
         data: params
    });
   });
  });

and this the code of content in view (inside foreach there are more forms and the data of each post but is not inportant by this example), you can see I add a class "delete" to button and I call class in javascript.

      @foreach($posts as $post)
          <form method="POST">
            <button id="{{$post->id}}" class="btn btn-danger btn-sm pull-right destroy" type="button" >eliminar</button>
          </form>
      @endforeach

Converting map to struct

You can do it ... it may get a bit ugly and you'll be faced with some trial and error in terms of mapping types .. but heres the basic gist of it:

func FillStruct(data map[string]interface{}, result interface{}) {
    t := reflect.ValueOf(result).Elem()
    for k, v := range data {
        val := t.FieldByName(k)
        val.Set(reflect.ValueOf(v))
    }
}

A hex viewer / editor plugin for Notepad++?

The hex editor plugin mentioned by ellak still works, but it seems that you need the TextFX Characters plugin as well.

I initially installed only the hex plugin and Notepad++ would no longer pop up; instead it started eating memory (killed it at 1.2 GB). I removed it again and for other reasons installed the TextFX plugin (based on Find multiple lines in Notepad++)

Out of curiosity I installed the hex plugin again and now it works.

Note that this is on a fresh install of Windows 7 64 bit.

Which version of C# am I using

To get version of framework - look at version of one of main Assemblies i.e.

 Console.Write(typeof(string).Assembly.ImageRuntimeVersion);

Getting version of C# compiler is somewhat harder, but you should be able to guess version by checking what framework version is used.

If you are using command line compiler (csc.exe) you can check help to see version (also you'd need to know Framework version anyway:

C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319>csc /?
Microsoft (R) Visual C# 2010 Compiler version 4.0.30319.1

How to enter ssh password using bash?

Create a new keypair: (go with the defaults)

ssh-keygen

Copy the public key to the server: (password for the last time)

ssh-copy-id [email protected]

From now on the server should recognize your key and not ask you for the password anymore:

ssh [email protected]

How to get the height of a body element

Simply use

Getting "The remote certificate is invalid according to the validation procedure" when SMTP server has a valid certificate

Old post, but I thought I would share my solution because there aren't many solutions out there for this issue.

If you're running an old Windows Server 2003 machine, you likely need to install a hotfix (KB938397).

This problem occurs because the Cryptography API 2 (CAPI2) in Windows Server 2003 does not support the SHA2 family of hashing algorithms. CAPI2 is the part of the Cryptography API that handles certificates.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/938397

For whatever reason, Microsoft wants to email you this hotfix instead of allowing you to download directly. Here's a direct link to the hotfix from the email:

http://hotfixv4.microsoft.com/Windows Server 2003/sp3/Fix200653/3790/free/315159_ENU_x64_zip.exe

How do I programmatically set device orientation in iOS 7?

If you want to lock the main view of your app to portrait, but want to open popup views in landscape, and you are using tabBarController as rootViewController as I am, you can use this code on your AppDelegate.

AppDelegate.h

@interface AppDelegate : UIResponder <UIApplicationDelegate, UITabBarControllerDelegate>

@property (strong, nonatomic) UIWindow *window;
@property (strong, nonatomic) UITabBarController *tabBarController;

@end

AppDelegate.m

- (BOOL)application:(UIApplication *)application didFinishLaunchingWithOptions:(NSDictionary *)launchOptions
{
    self.window = [[UIWindow alloc] initWithFrame:[[UIScreen mainScreen] bounds]];

    // Create a tab bar and set it as root view for the application
    self.tabBarController = [[UITabBarController alloc] init];
    self.tabBarController.delegate = self;
    self.window.rootViewController = self.tabBarController;

    ...
}

- (NSUInteger)tabBarControllerSupportedInterfaceOrientations:(UITabBarController *)tabBarController
{
    return UIInterfaceOrientationMaskPortrait;
}

- (UIInterfaceOrientation)tabBarControllerPreferredInterfaceOrientationForPresentation:(UITabBarController *)tabBarController
{
    return UIInterfaceOrientationPortrait;
}

It works very well.

In your viewController you want to be presented in landscape, you simply use the following:

- (NSUInteger)supportedInterfaceOrientations {
    return UIInterfaceOrientationMaskLandscape;
}

- (BOOL)shouldAutorotate {
    return YES;
}

Watch multiple $scope attributes

A slightly safer solution to combine values might be to use the following as your $watch function:

function() { return angular.toJson([item1, item2]) }

or

$scope.$watch(
  function() {
    return angular.toJson([item1, item2]);
  },
  function() {
    // Stuff to do after either value changes
  });

Gradle, Android and the ANDROID_HOME SDK location

I have the same problem, seems the sample code can not find the android environment, instead to try to fix that I just remove the sample code from settings.gradle and then the installation goes fine.

after that just import the project in eclipse and that's all :)

Check whether variable is number or string in JavaScript

Python NameError: name is not defined

You must define the class before creating an instance of the class. Move the invocation of Something to the end of the script.

You can try to put the cart before the horse and invoke procedures before they are defined, but it will be an ugly hack and you will have to roll your own as defined here:

Make function definition in a python file order independent

How can I reduce the waiting (ttfb) time

The TTFB is not the time to first byte of the body of the response (i.e., the useful data, such as: json, xml, etc.), but rather the time to first byte of the response received from the server. This byte is the start of the response headers.

For example, if the server sends the headers before doing the hard work (like heavy SQL), you will get a very low TTFB, but it isn't "true".

In your case, TTFB represents the time you spend processing data on the server.

To reduce the TTFB, you need to do the server-side work faster.

Exception of type 'System.OutOfMemoryException' was thrown.

This problem usually occurs when some process such as loading huge data to memory stream and your system memory is not capable of storing so much of data. Try clearing temp folder by giving the command

start -> run -> %temp%

app-release-unsigned.apk is not signed

i also appear this problem,and my code below

        storePassword properties.getProperty("keypassword")
        keyAlias properties.getProperty("keyAlias")
        keyPassword properties.getProperty("keypassword")

the reason is property name error,it should be keyPassword not keypassword

How to extract 1 screenshot for a video with ffmpeg at a given time?

Use the -ss option:

ffmpeg -ss 01:23:45 -i input -vframes 1 -q:v 2 output.jpg
  • For JPEG output use -q:v to control output quality. Full range is a linear scale of 1-31 where a lower value results in a higher quality. 2-5 is a good range to try.

  • The select filter provides an alternative method for more complex needs such as selecting only certain frame types, or 1 per 100, etc.

  • Placing -ss before the input will be faster. See FFmpeg Wiki: Seeking and this excerpt from the ffmpeg cli tool documentation:

-ss position (input/output)

When used as an input option (before -i), seeks in this input file to position. Note the in most formats it is not possible to seek exactly, so ffmpeg will seek to the closest seek point before position. When transcoding and -accurate_seek is enabled (the default), this extra segment between the seek point and position will be decoded and discarded. When doing stream copy or when -noaccurate_seek is used, it will be preserved.

When used as an output option (before an output filename), decodes but discards input until the timestamps reach position.

position may be either in seconds or in hh:mm:ss[.xxx] form.

Linux find and grep command together

You are looking for -H option in gnu grep.

find . -name '*bills*' -exec grep -H "put" {} \;

Here is the explanation

    -H, --with-filename
      Print the filename for each match.

What is the Java equivalent for LINQ?

There is no such feature in java. By using the other API you will get this feature. Like suppose we have a animal Object containing name and id. We have list object having animal objects. Now if we want to get the all the animal name which contains 'o' from list object. we can write the following query

from(animals).where("getName", contains("o")).all();

Above Query statement will list of the animals which contains 'o' alphabet in their name. More information please go through following blog. http://javaworldwide.blogspot.in/2012/09/linq-in-java.html

Session timeout in ASP.NET

The default session timeout is defined into IIS to 20 minutes

Follow the procedures below for each site hosted on the IIS 8.5 web

IIS Timeout configuration

Open the IIS 8.5 Manager.

Click the site name.

Select "Configuration Editor" under the "Management" section.

From the "Section:" drop-down list at the top of the configuration editor, locate "system.web/sessionState".

Set the "timeout" to "00:20:00 or less”, using the lowest value possible depending upon the application. Acceptable values are 5 minutes for high-value applications, 10 minutes for medium-value applications, and 20 minutes for low-value applications.

In the "Actions" pane, click "Apply".

JQuery addclass to selected div, remove class if another div is selected

It's all about the selector. You can change your code to be something like this:

<div class="formbuilder">
    <div class="active">Heading</div>
    <div>1</div>
    <div>2</div>
    <div>3</div>
    <div>4</div>
</div>

Then use this javascript:

$(document).ready(function () {
    $('.formbuilder div').on('click', function () {
        $('.formbuilder div').removeClass('active');
        $(this).addClass('active');
    });
});

The example in a working jsfiddle

See this api about the selector I used: http://api.jquery.com/descendant-selector/

How to declare a variable in a template in Angular

It is much simpler, no need for anything additional. In my example I declare variable "open" and then use it.

   <mat-accordion class="accord-align" #open>
      <mat-expansion-panel hideToggle="true" (opened)="open.value=true" (closed)="open.value=false">
        <mat-expansion-panel-header>
          <span class="accord-title">Review Policy Summary</span>
          <span class="spacer"></span>
          <a *ngIf="!open.value" class="f-accent">SHOW</a>
          <a *ngIf="open.value" class="f-accent">HIDE</a>
        </mat-expansion-panel-header>
        <mat-divider></mat-divider>
        <!-- Quote Details Component -->
        <quote-details [quote]="quote"></quote-details>
      </mat-expansion-panel>
    </mat-accordion>

How to permanently add a private key with ssh-add on Ubuntu?

A solution would be to force the key files to be kept permanently, by adding them in your ~/.ssh/config file:

IdentityFile ~/.ssh/gitHubKey
IdentityFile ~/.ssh/id_rsa_buhlServer

If you do not have a 'config' file in the ~/.ssh directory, then you should create one. It does not need root rights, so simply:

nano ~/.ssh/config

...and enter the lines above as per your requirements.

For this to work the file needs to have chmod 600. You can use the command chmod 600 ~/.ssh/config.

If you want all users on the computer to use the key put these lines into /etc/ssh/ssh_config and the key in a folder accessible to all.

Additionally if you want to set the key specific to one host, you can do the following in your ~/.ssh/config :

Host github.com
    User git
    IdentityFile ~/.ssh/githubKey

This has the advantage when you have many identities that a server doesn't reject you because you tried the wrong identities first. Only the specific identity will be tried.

Auto expand a textarea using jQuery

There are a lot of answers for this but I found something very simple, attach a keyup event to the textarea and check for enter key press the key code is 13

keyPressHandler(e){ if(e.keyCode == 13){ e.target.rows = e.target.rows + 1; } }

This will add another row to you textarea and you can style the width using CSS.

How to use the gecko executable with Selenium

I try to make it simple. You have two options while using Selenium 3+:

  • Either upgrade your Firefox to 47.0.1 or higher and use the default geckodriver of Selenium3.

  • Or disable using of geckodriver by specifying marionette to false and use the legacy Firefox driver. a simple command to run selenium is: java -Dwebdriver.firefox.marionette=false -jar selenium-server-standalone-3.0.1.jar. You can also disable using geckodriver from other commands that are mentioned in other answers.

Should I learn C before learning C++?

Having observed people, who have learned Java first, struggle with the concepts of pointers and memory management in C++, I'd say that learning C first is a good idea, in order to grasp these two concepts, isolated from the complexities of other C++ features.

Google MAP API v3: Center & Zoom on displayed markers

I've also find this fix that zooms to fit all markers

LatLngList: an array of instances of latLng, for example:

// "map" is an instance of GMap3

var LatLngList = [
                     new google.maps.LatLng (52.537,-2.061),
                     new google.maps.LatLng (52.564,-2.017)
                 ],
    latlngbounds = new google.maps.LatLngBounds();

LatLngList.forEach(function(latLng){
   latlngbounds.extend(latLng);
});

// or with ES6:
// for( var latLng of LatLngList)
//    latlngbounds.extend(latLng);

map.setCenter(latlngbounds.getCenter());
map.fitBounds(latlngbounds);

Team Build Error: The Path ... is already mapped to workspace

My issue was related to using multiple accounts. This is how I was able to switch accounts.

Open Team Explorer

From the big drop down menu near the top of the pane...

Navigate to: Projects and my Teams>Manage Connections

Navigate to: Manage Connections>Connect to Team Project

Use the "Switch User" link to switch accounts.

Now the workspace names will match the chosen account.

Create a user with all privileges in Oracle

My issue was, i am unable to create a view with my "scott" user in oracle 11g edition. So here is my solution for this

Error in my case

SQL>create view v1 as select * from books where id=10;

insufficient privileges.

Solution

1)open your cmd and change your directory to where you install your oracle database. in my case i was downloaded in E drive so my location is E:\app\B_Amar\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\BIN> after reaching in the position you have to type sqlplus sys as sysdba

E:\app\B_Amar\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\BIN>sqlplus sys as sysdba

2) Enter password: here you have to type that password that you give at the time of installation of oracle software.

3) Here in this step if you want create a new user then you can create otherwise give all the privileges to existing user.

for creating new user

SQL> create user abc identified by xyz;

here abc is user and xyz is password.

giving all the privileges to abc user

SQL> grant all privileges to abc;

 grant succeeded.

if you are seen this message then all the privileges are giving to the abc user.

4) Now exit from cmd, go to your SQL PLUS and connect to the user i.e enter your username & password.Now you can happily create view.

In My case

in cmd E:\app\B_Amar\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\BIN>sqlplus sys as sysdba

SQL> grant all privileges to SCOTT;

grant succeeded.

Now I can create views.

What is a faster alternative to Python's http.server (or SimpleHTTPServer)?

I recommend: Twisted (http://twistedmatrix.com)

an event-driven networking engine written in Python and licensed under the open source MIT license.

It's cross-platform and was preinstalled on OS X 10.5 to 10.12. Amongst other things you can start up a simple web server in the current directory with:

twistd -no web --path=.

Details

Explanation of Options (see twistd --help for more):

-n, --nodaemon don't daemonize, don't use default umask of 0077
-o, --no_save do not save state on shutdown

"web" is a Command that runs a simple web server on top of the Twisted async engine. It also accepts command line options (after the "web" command - see twistd web --help for more):

  --path= <path> is either a specific file or a directory to be
                      set as the root of the web server. Use this if you
                      have a directory full of HTML, cgi, php3, epy, or rpy
                      files or any other files that you want to be served up
                      raw.

There are also a bunch of other commands such as:

conch            A Conch SSH service.
dns              A domain name server.
ftp              An FTP server.
inetd            An inetd(8) replacement.
mail             An email service
... etc

Installation

Ubuntu

sudo apt-get install python-twisted-web (or python-twisted for the full engine)

Mac OS-X (comes preinstalled on 10.5 - 10.12, or is available in MacPorts and through Pip)

sudo port install py-twisted

Windows

installer available for download at http://twistedmatrix.com/

HTTPS

Twisted can also utilise security certificates to encrypt the connection. Use this with your existing --path and --port (for plain HTTP) options.

twistd -no web -c cert.pem -k privkey.pem --https=4433

How to run different python versions in cmd

I also met the case to use both python2 and python3 on my Windows machine. Here's how i resolved it:

  1. download python2x and python3x, installed them.
  2. add C:\Python35;C:\Python35\Scripts;C:\Python27;C:\Python27\Scripts to environment variable PATH.
  3. Go to C:\Python35 to rename python.exe to python3.exe, also to C:\Python27, rename python.exe to python2.exe.
  4. restart your command window.
  5. type python2 scriptname.py, or python3 scriptname.py in command line to switch the version you like.

Sorting string array in C#

If you have problems with numbers (say 1, 2, 10, 12 which will be sorted 1, 10, 12, 2) you can use LINQ:

var arr = arr.OrderBy(x=>x).ToArray();

SyntaxError: multiple statements found while compiling a single statement

A (partial) practical work-around is to put things into a throw-away function.

Pasting

x = 1
x += 1
print(x)

results in

>>> x = 1
x += 1
print(x)
  File "<stdin>", line 1
    x += 1
print(x)

    ^
SyntaxError: multiple statements found while compiling a single statement
>>>

However, pasting

def abc():
  x = 1
  x += 1
  print(x)

works:

>>> def abc():
  x = 1
  x += 1
  print(x)
>>> abc()
2
>>>

Of course, this is OK for a quick one-off, won't work for everything you might want to do, etc. But then, going to ipython / jupyter qtconsole is probably the next simplest option.

React Router v4 - How to get current route?

In react router 4 the current route is in - this.props.location.pathname. Just get this.props and verify. If you still do not see location.pathname then you should use the decorator withRouter.

This might look something like this:

import {withRouter} from 'react-router-dom';

const SomeComponent = withRouter(props => <MyComponent {...props}/>);

class MyComponent extends React.Component {
  SomeMethod () {
    const {pathname} = this.props.location;
  }
}

IF EXISTS in T-SQL

Yes it stops execution so this is generally preferable to HAVING COUNT(*) > 0 which often won't.

With EXISTS if you look at the execution plan you will see that the actual number of rows coming out of table1 will not be more than 1 irrespective of number of matching records.

In some circumstances SQL Server can convert the tree for the COUNT query to the same as the one for EXISTS during the simplification phase (with a semi join and no aggregate operator in sight) an example of that is discussed in the comments here.

For more complicated sub trees than shown in the question you may occasionally find the COUNT performs better than EXISTS however. Because the semi join needs only retrieve one row from the sub tree this can encourage a plan with nested loops for that part of the tree - which may not work out optimal in practice.

*ngIf and *ngFor on same element causing error

This will work but the element will still in the DOM.

.hidden {

}

    {{log(thing)}}
    <span>{{thing.name}}</span>
</div>

How do I get next month date from today's date and insert it in my database?

You can use PHP's strtotime() function:

// One month from today
$date = date('Y-m-d', strtotime('+1 month'));

// One month from a specific date
$date = date('Y-m-d', strtotime('+1 month', strtotime('2015-01-01')));

Just note that +1 month is not always calculated intuitively. It appears to always add the number of days that exist in the current month.

Current Date  | +1 month

getting error HTTP Status 405 - HTTP method GET is not supported by this URL but not used `get` ever?

Override service method like this:

protected void service(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse   response) throws ServletException, IOException {
        doPost(request, response);
}

And Voila!

exception.getMessage() output with class name

I think you are wrapping your exception in another exception (which isn't in your code above). If you try out this code:

public static void main(String[] args) {
    try {
        throw new RuntimeException("Cannot move file");
    } catch (Exception ex) {
        JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null, "Error: " + ex.getMessage());
    }
}

...you will see a popup that says exactly what you want.

However, to solve your problem (the wrapped exception) you need get to the "root" exception with the "correct" message. To do this you need to create a own recursive method getRootCause:

public static void main(String[] args) {
    try {
        throw new Exception(new RuntimeException("Cannot move file"));
    } catch (Exception ex) {
        JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null,
                                      "Error: " + getRootCause(ex).getMessage());
    }
}

public static Throwable getRootCause(Throwable throwable) {
    if (throwable.getCause() != null)
        return getRootCause(throwable.getCause());

    return throwable;
}

Note: Unwrapping exceptions like this however, sort of breaks the abstractions. I encourage you to find out why the exception is wrapped and ask yourself if it makes sense.

Python loop counter in a for loop

I'll sometimes do this:

def draw_menu(options, selected_index):
    for i in range(len(options)):
        if i == selected_index:
            print " [*] %s" % options[i]
        else:
            print " [ ] %s" % options[i]

Though I tend to avoid this if it means I'll be saying options[i] more than a couple of times.

When should I use a table variable vs temporary table in sql server?

Use a table variable if for a very small quantity of data (thousands of bytes)

Use a temporary table for a lot of data

Another way to think about it: if you think you might benefit from an index, automated statistics, or any SQL optimizer goodness, then your data set is probably too large for a table variable.

In my example, I just wanted to put about 20 rows into a format and modify them as a group, before using them to UPDATE / INSERT a permanent table. So a table variable is perfect.

But I am also running SQL to back-fill thousands of rows at a time, and I can definitely say that the temporary tables perform much better than table variables.

This is not unlike how CTE's are a concern for a similar size reason - if the data in the CTE is very small, I find a CTE performs as good as or better than what the optimizer comes up with, but if it is quite large then it hurts you bad.

My understanding is mostly based on http://www.developerfusion.com/article/84397/table-variables-v-temporary-tables-in-sql-server/, which has a lot more detail.

File input 'accept' attribute - is it useful?

Back in 2008 this wasn't important because of the lack of mobile OS'es but now quite important thing.

When you set accepted mime types, then in for example Android user is given system dialog with apps which can provide him the content of mime which file input accepts, what is great because navigating through files in file explorer on mobile devices is slow and often stressful.

One important thing is that some mobile browsers (based on Android version of Chrome 36 and Chrome Beta 37) does not support app filtering over extension(s) and multiple mime types.

How to get names of classes inside a jar file?

Maybe you are looking for jar command to get the list of classes in terminal,

Fast way to get the min/max values among properties of object

Update: Modern version (ES6+)

let obj = { a: 4, b: 0.5 , c: 0.35, d: 5 };

let arr = Object.values(obj);
let min = Math.min(...arr);
let max = Math.max(...arr);

console.log( `Min value: ${min}, max value: ${max}` );

Original Answer:

Try this:

let obj = { a: 4, b: 0.5 , c: 0.35, d: 5 };
var arr = Object.keys( obj ).map(function ( key ) { return obj[key]; });

and then:

var min = Math.min.apply( null, arr );
var max = Math.max.apply( null, arr );

jQuery removeClass wildcard

I've generalized this into a Jquery plugin which takes a regex as an argument.

Coffee:

$.fn.removeClassRegex = (regex) ->
  $(@).removeClass (index, classes) ->
    classes.split(/\s+/).filter (c) ->
      regex.test c
    .join ' '

Javascript:

$.fn.removeClassRegex = function(regex) {
  return $(this).removeClass(function(index, classes) {
    return classes.split(/\s+/).filter(function(c) {
      return regex.test(c);
    }).join(' ');
  });
};

So, for this case, usage would be (both Coffee and Javascript):

$('#hello').removeClassRegex(/^color-/)

Note that I'm using the Array.filter function which doesn't exist in IE<9. You could use Underscore's filter function instead or Google for a polyfill like this WTFPL one.

Search for a string in all tables, rows and columns of a DB

This uses no cursors or anything like that, just one dynamic query.

Also note that this uses LIKE. Since that happened to be what I needed. It works for all schemas, all tables and only query's those columns that are NVARCHAR or VARCHAR even if they have UDDT.

DECLARE @searchstring  NVARCHAR(255)
SET @searchstring = '%searchstring%'

DECLARE @sql NVARCHAR(max)

SELECT @sql = STUFF((
    SELECT ' UNION ALL SELECT ''' + TABLE_NAME + ''' AS tablename, ''' + COLUMN_NAME + ''' AS columnname, ' + COLUMN_NAME + ' AS valuename' +
    ' FROM ' + TABLE_SCHEMA + '.' + TABLE_NAME +
    ' WHERE ' + COLUMN_NAME + ' LIKE ''' + @searchstring + ''''
    FROM INFORMATION_SCHEMA.COLUMNS
    WHERE DATA_TYPE in ('nvarchar', 'varchar')
    FOR XML PATH('')
) ,1, 11, '')

EXEC(@sql)

The output gives you the table, column and value. Time to execute on a small database was ~3 seconds, had about 3000 results.

C++ calling base class constructors

Why the base class' default constructor is called? Turns out it's not always be the case. Any constructor of the base class (with different signatures) can be invoked from the derived class' constructor. In your case, the default constructor is called because it has no parameters so it's default.

When a derived class is created, the order the constructors are called is always Base -> Derived in the hierarchy. If we have:

class A {..}
class B : A {...}
class C : B {...}
C c;

When c is create, the constructor for A is invoked first, and then the constructor for B, and then the constructor for C.

To guarantee that order, when a derived class' constructor is called, it always invokes the base class' constructor before the derived class' constructor can do anything else. For that reason, the programmer can manually invoke a base class' constructor in the only initialisation list of the derived class' constructor, with corresponding parameters. For instance, in the following code, Derived's default constructor will invoke Base's constructor Base::Base(int i) instead of the default constructor.

Derived() : Base(5)
{
}

If there's no such constructor invoked in the initialisation list of the derived class' constructor, then the program assumes a base class' constructor with no parameters. That's the reason why a constructor with no parameters (i.e. the default constructor) is invoked.

jquery $.each() for objects

$.each() works for objects and arrays both:

var data = { "programs": [ { "name":"zonealarm", "price":"500" }, { "name":"kaspersky", "price":"200" } ] };

$.each(data.programs, function (i) {
    $.each(data.programs[i], function (key, val) {
        alert(key + val);
    });
});

...and since you will get the current array element as second argument:

$.each(data.programs, function (i, currProgram) {
    $.each(currProgram, function (key, val) {
        alert(key + val);
    });
});

Is it possible to set the stacking order of pseudo-elements below their parent element?

Set the z-index of the :before or :after pseudo element to -1 and give it a position that honors the z-index property (absolute, relative, or fixed). This works because the pseudo element's z-index is relative to its parent element, rather than <html>, which is the default for other elements. Which makes sense because they are child elements of <html>.

The problem I was having (that lead me to this question and the accepted answer above) was that I was trying to use a :after pseudo element to get fancy with a background to an element with z-index of 15, and even when set with a z-index of 14, it was still being rendered on top of its parent. This is because, in that stacking context, it's parent has a z-index of 0.

Hopefully that helps clarify a little what's going on.

How can I remove space (margin) above HTML header?

It is probably the h1 tag causing the problem. Applying margin: 0; should fix the problem.

But you should use a CSS reset for every new project to eliminate browser consistencies and problems like yours. Probably the most famous one is Eric Meyer's: http://meyerweb.com/eric/tools/css/reset/

Entity Framework: One Database, Multiple DbContexts. Is this a bad idea?

You can have multiple contexts for single database. It can be useful for example if your database contains multiple database schemas and you want to handle each of them as separate self contained area.

The problem is when you want to use code first to create your database - only single context in your application can do that. The trick for this is usually one additional context containing all your entities which is used only for database creation. Your real application contexts containing only subsets of your entities must have database initializer set to null.

There are other issues you will see when using multiple context types - for example shared entity types and their passing from one context to another, etc. Generally it is possible, it can make your design much cleaner and separate different functional areas but it has its costs in additional complexity.

How to get the xml node value in string

The problem in your code is xml.LoadXml(filePath);

LoadXml method take parameter as xml data not the xml file path

Try this code

   string xmlFile = File.ReadAllText(@"D:\Work_Time_Calculator\10-07-2013.xml");
                XmlDocument xmldoc = new XmlDocument();
                xmldoc.LoadXml(xmlFile);
                XmlNodeList nodeList = xmldoc.GetElementsByTagName("Short_Fall");
                string Short_Fall=string.Empty;
                foreach (XmlNode node in nodeList)
                {
                    Short_Fall = node.InnerText;
                }

Edit

Seeing the last edit of your question i found the solution,

Just replace the below 2 lines

XmlNode node = xml.SelectSingleNode("/Data[@*]/Short_Fall");
string id = node["Short_Fall"].InnerText; // Exception occurs here ("Object reference not set to an instance of an object.")

with

string id = xml.SelectSingleNode("Data/Short_Fall").InnerText;

It should solve your problem or you can use the solution i provided earlier.

How do I divide so I get a decimal value?

Don't worry about it. In your code, just do the separate / and % operations as you mention, even though it might seem like it's inefficient. Let the JIT compiler worry about combining these operations to get both quotient and remainder in a single machine instruction (as far as I recall, it generally does).

"The breakpoint will not currently be hit. The source code is different from the original version." What does this mean?

In my case, I was attaching to a running process in VS 2012. When attaching, you're given the option to debug in various modes (native, script, silverlight, managed 2.0, managed 4.0, etc). By default, the debugger selects the mode automatically. However Automatic does not always make the correct choice. If your process contains multiple types of code, be sure the debugger is using the correct one.

Why I can't change directories using "cd"?

You can do following:

#!/bin/bash
cd /your/project/directory
# start another shell and replacing the current
exec /bin/bash

EDIT: This could be 'dotted' as well, to prevent creation of subsequent shells.

Example:

. ./previous_script (with or without the first line)

View array in Visual Studio debugger?

If you have a large array and only want to see a subsection of the array you can type this into the watch window;

ptr+100,10

to show a list of the 10 elements starting at ptr[100]. Beware that the displayed array subscripts will start at [0], so you will have to remember that ptr[0] is really ptr[100] and ptr[1] is ptr[101] etc.

Internal and external fragmentation

External fragmentation
Total memory space is enough to satisfy a request or to reside a process in it, but it is not contiguous so it can not be used.

External fragmentation

Internal fragmentation
Memory block assigned to process is bigger. Some portion of memory is left unused as it can not be used by another process.

Internal fragmentation

How do you fix a bad merge, and replay your good commits onto a fixed merge?

Just to add that to Charles Bailey's solution, I just used a git rebase -i to remove unwanted files from an earlier commit and it worked like a charm. The steps:

# Pick your commit with 'e'
$ git rebase -i

# Perform as many removes as necessary
$ git rm project/code/file.txt

# amend the commit
$ git commit --amend

# continue with rebase
$ git rebase --continue

How to read/process command line arguments?

The canonical solution in the standard library is argparse (docs):

Here is an example:

from argparse import ArgumentParser

parser = ArgumentParser()
parser.add_argument("-f", "--file", dest="filename",
                    help="write report to FILE", metavar="FILE")
parser.add_argument("-q", "--quiet",
                    action="store_false", dest="verbose", default=True,
                    help="don't print status messages to stdout")

args = parser.parse_args()

argparse supports (among other things):

  • Multiple options in any order.
  • Short and long options.
  • Default values.
  • Generation of a usage help message.

How to create a service running a .exe file on Windows 2012 Server?

You can just do that too, it seems to work well too. sc create "Servicename" binPath= "Path\To\your\App.exe" DisplayName= "My Custom Service"

You can open the registry and add a string named Description in your service's registry key to add a little more descriptive information about it. It will be shown in services.msc.

Proper use of the IDisposable interface

First of definition. For me unmanaged resource means some class, which implements IDisposable interface or something created with usage of calls to dll. GC doesn't know how to deal with such objects. If class has for example only value types, then I don't consider this class as class with unmanaged resources. For my code I follow next practices:

  1. If created by me class uses some unmanaged resources then it means that I should also implement IDisposable interface in order to clean memory.
  2. Clean objects as soon as I finished usage of it.
  3. In my dispose method I iterate over all IDisposable members of class and call Dispose.
  4. In my Dispose method call GC.SuppressFinalize(this) in order to notify garbage collector that my object was already cleaned up. I do it because calling of GC is expensive operation.
  5. As additional precaution I try to make possible calling of Dispose() multiple times.
  6. Sometime I add private member _disposed and check in method calls did object was cleaned up. And if it was cleaned up then generate ObjectDisposedException
    Following template demonstrates what I described in words as sample of code:

public class SomeClass : IDisposable
    {
        /// <summary>
        /// As usually I don't care was object disposed or not
        /// </summary>
        public void SomeMethod()
        {
            if (_disposed)
                throw new ObjectDisposedException("SomeClass instance been disposed");
        }

        public void Dispose()
        {
            Dispose(true);
        }

        private bool _disposed;

        protected virtual void Dispose(bool disposing)
        {
            if (_disposed)
                return;
            if (disposing)//we are in the first call
            {
            }
            _disposed = true;
        }
    }

Testing Spring's @RequestBody using Spring MockMVC

The issue is that you are serializing your bean with a custom Gson object while the application is attempting to deserialize your JSON with a Jackson ObjectMapper (within MappingJackson2HttpMessageConverter).

If you open up your server logs, you should see something like

Exception in thread "main" com.fasterxml.jackson.databind.exc.InvalidFormatException: Can not construct instance of java.util.Date from String value '2013-34-10-10:34:31': not a valid representation (error: Failed to parse Date value '2013-34-10-10:34:31': Can not parse date "2013-34-10-10:34:31": not compatible with any of standard forms ("yyyy-MM-dd'T'HH:mm:ss.SSSZ", "yyyy-MM-dd'T'HH:mm:ss.SSS'Z'", "EEE, dd MMM yyyy HH:mm:ss zzz", "yyyy-MM-dd"))
 at [Source: java.io.StringReader@baea1ed; line: 1, column: 20] (through reference chain: com.spring.Bean["publicationDate"])

among other stack traces.

One solution is to set your Gson date format to one of the above (in the stacktrace).

The alternative is to register your own MappingJackson2HttpMessageConverter by configuring your own ObjectMapper to have the same date format as your Gson.

How should a model be structured in MVC?

More oftenly most of the applications will have data,display and processing part and we just put all those in the letters M,V and C.

Model(M)-->Has the attributes that holds state of application and it dont know any thing about V and C.

View(V)-->Has displaying format for the application and and only knows about how-to-digest model on it and does not bother about C.

Controller(C)---->Has processing part of application and acts as wiring between M and V and it depends on both M,V unlike M and V.

Altogether there is separation of concern between each. In future any change or enhancements can be added very easily.

Best HTTP Authorization header type for JWT

Short answer

The Bearer authentication scheme is what you are looking for.

Long answer

Is it related to bears?

Errr... No :)

According to the Oxford Dictionaries, here's the definition of bearer:

bearer /'b??r?/
noun

  1. A person or thing that carries or holds something.

  2. A person who presents a cheque or other order to pay money.

The first definition includes the following synonyms: messenger, agent, conveyor, emissary, carrier, provider.

And here's the definition of bearer token according to the RFC 6750:

1.2. Terminology

Bearer Token

A security token with the property that any party in possession of the token (a "bearer") can use the token in any way that any other party in possession of it can. Using a bearer token does not require a bearer to prove possession of cryptographic key material (proof-of-possession).

The Bearer authentication scheme is registered in IANA and originally defined in the RFC 6750 for the OAuth 2.0 authorization framework, but nothing stops you from using the Bearer scheme for access tokens in applications that don't use OAuth 2.0.

Stick to the standards as much as you can and don't create your own authentication schemes.

An access token must be sent in the Authorization request header using the Bearer authentication scheme:

2.1. Authorization Request Header Field

When sending the access token in the Authorization request header field defined by HTTP/1.1, the client uses the Bearer authentication scheme to transmit the access token.

For example:

GET /resource HTTP/1.1
Host: server.example.com
Authorization: Bearer mF_9.B5f-4.1JqM

[...]

Clients SHOULD make authenticated requests with a bearer token using the Authorization request header field with the Bearer HTTP authorization scheme. [...]

In case of invalid or missing token, the Bearer scheme should be included in the WWW-Authenticate response header:

3. The WWW-Authenticate Response Header Field

If the protected resource request does not include authentication credentials or does not contain an access token that enables access to the protected resource, the resource server MUST include the HTTP WWW-Authenticate response header field [...].

All challenges defined by this specification MUST use the auth-scheme value Bearer. This scheme MUST be followed by one or more auth-param values. [...].

For example, in response to a protected resource request without authentication:

HTTP/1.1 401 Unauthorized
WWW-Authenticate: Bearer realm="example"

And in response to a protected resource request with an authentication attempt using an expired access token:

HTTP/1.1 401 Unauthorized
WWW-Authenticate: Bearer realm="example",
                         error="invalid_token",
                         error_description="The access token expired"

How to create named and latest tag in Docker?

Just grep the ID from docker images:

docker build -t creack/node:latest .
ID="$(docker images | grep 'creak/node' | head -n 1 | awk '{print $3}')"
docker tag "$ID" creack/node:0.10.24
docker tag "$ID" creack/node:latest

Needs no temporary file and gives full build output. You still can redirect it to /dev/null or a log file.

How do I use Notepad++ (or other) with msysgit?

Update 2010-2011:

zumalifeguard's solution (upvoted) is simpler than the original one, as it doesn't need anymore a shell wrapper script.

As I explain in "How can I set up an editor to work with Git on Windows?", I prefer a wrapper, as it is easier to try and switch editors, or change the path of one editor, without having to register said change with a git config again.
But that is just me.

Additional information: the following solution works with Cygwin, while the zuamlifeguard's solution does not.

Original answer.

The following:

C:\prog\git>git config --global core.editor C:/prog/git/npp.sh

C:/prog/git/npp.sh:
#!/bin/sh
"c:/Program Files/Notepad++/notepad++.exe" -multiInst "$*"

does work. Those commands are interpreted as shell script, hence the idea to wrap any windows set of commands in a sh script.
(As Franky comments: "Remember to save your .sh file with Unix style line endings or receive mysterious error messages!")

More details on the SO question How can I set up an editor to work with Git on Windows?

Note the '-multiInst' option, for ensuring a new instance of notepad++ for each call from Git.

Note also that, if you are using Git on Cygwin (and want to use Notepad++ from Cygwin), then scphantm explains in "using Notepad++ for Git inside Cygwin" that you must be aware that:

git is passing it a cygwin path and npp doesn't know what to do with it

So the script in that case would be:

#!/bin/sh
"C:/Program Files (x86)/Notepad++/notepad++.exe" -multiInst -notabbar -nosession -noPlugin "$(cygpath -w "$*")"

Multiple lines for readability:

#!/bin/sh
"C:/Program Files (x86)/Notepad++/notepad++.exe" -multiInst -notabbar \
  -nosession -noPlugin "$(cygpath -w "$*")"

With "$(cygpath -w "$*")" being the important part here.

Val commented (and then deleted) that you should not use -notabbar option:

It makes no good to disable the tab during rebase, but makes a lot of harm to general Notepad usability since -notab becomes the default setting and you must Settings>Preferences>General>TabBar> Hide>uncheck every time you start notepad after rebase. This is hell. You recommended the hell.

So use rather:

#!/bin/sh
"C:/Program Files (x86)/Notepad++/notepad++.exe" -multiInst -nosession -noPlugin "$(cygpath -w "$*")"

That is:

#!/bin/sh
"C:/Program Files (x86)/Notepad++/notepad++.exe" -multiInst -nosession \
  -noPlugin "$(cygpath -w "$*")"

If you want to place the script 'npp.sh' in a path with spaces (as in 'c:\program files\...',), you have three options:

  • Either try to quote the path (single or double quotes), as in:

    git config --global core.editor 'C:/program files/git/npp.sh'

  • or try the shortname notation (not fool-proofed):

    git config --global core.editor C:/progra~1/git/npp.sh

  • or (my favorite) place 'npp.sh' in a directory part of your %PATH% environment variable. You would not have then to specify any path for the script.

    git config --global core.editor npp.sh

  • Steiny reports in the comments having to do:

    git config --global core.editor '"C:/Program Files (x86)/Git/scripts/npp.sh"'

How do I change the select box arrow

You can skip the container or background image with pure css arrow:

select {

  /* make arrow and background */

  background:
    linear-gradient(45deg, transparent 50%, blue 50%),
    linear-gradient(135deg, blue 50%, transparent 50%),
    linear-gradient(to right, skyblue, skyblue);
  background-position:
    calc(100% - 21px) calc(1em + 2px),
    calc(100% - 16px) calc(1em + 2px),
    100% 0;
  background-size:
    5px 5px,
    5px 5px,
    2.5em 2.5em;
  background-repeat: no-repeat;

  /* styling and reset */

  border: thin solid blue;
  font: 300 1em/100% "Helvetica Neue", Arial, sans-serif;
  line-height: 1.5em;
  padding: 0.5em 3.5em 0.5em 1em;

  /* reset */

  border-radius: 0;
  margin: 0;
  -webkit-box-sizing: border-box;
  -moz-box-sizing: border-box;
  box-sizing: border-box;
  -webkit-appearance:none;
  -moz-appearance:none;

How do I configure modprobe to find my module?

I think the key is to copy the module to the standard paths.

Once that is done, modprobe only accepts the module name, so leave off the path and ".ko" extension.

HttpServletRequest - how to obtain the referring URL?

The URLs are passed in the request: request.getRequestURL().

If you mean other sites that are linking to you? You want to capture the HTTP Referrer, which you can do by calling:

request.getHeader("referer");
