In MVC, how do I return a string result?

There Are 2 ways to return a string from the controller to the view:

First

You could return only the string, but it will not be included in your .cshtml file. it will be just a string appearing in your browser.

Second

You could return a string as the Model object of View Result.

Here is the code sample to do this:

public class HomeController : Controller
{
    // GET: Home
    // this will return just a string, not html
    public string index()
    {
        return "URL to show";
    }

    public ViewResult AutoProperty()
    {
        string s = "this is a string ";
        // name of view , object you will pass
        return View("Result", s);

    }
}

In the view file to run AutoProperty, It will redirect you to the Result view and will send s
code to the view

<!--this will make this file accept string as it's model-->
@model string

@{
    Layout = null;
}

<!DOCTYPE html>

<html>
<head>
    <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width" />
    <title>Result</title>
</head>
<body>
    <!--this will represent the string -->
    @Model
</body>
</html>

I run this at http://localhost:60227/Home/AutoProperty.

How can I make a CSS glass/blur effect work for an overlay?

From backdrop-filter

...apply graphical effects such as blurring or color shifting to the area behind an element. Because it applies to everything behind the element, to see the effect you must make the element or its background at least partially transparent.

Page vs Window in WPF?

A Window is always shown independently, A Page is intended to be shown inside a Frame or inside a NavigationWindow.

Converting unix time into date-time via excel

in case the above does not work for you. for me this did not for some reasons;

the UNIX numbers i am working on are from the Mozilla place.sqlite dates.

to make it work : i splitted the UNIX cells into two cells : one of the first 10 numbers (the date) and the other 4 numbers left (the seconds i believe)

Then i used this formula, =(A1/86400)+25569 where A1 contains the cell with the first 10 number; and it worked

How do I access (read, write) Google Sheets spreadsheets with Python?

I think you're looking at the cell-based feeds section in that API doc page. Then you can just use the PUT/ GET requests within your Python script, using either commands.getstatusoutput or subprocess.

Reading an image file into bitmap from sdcard, why am I getting a NullPointerException?

I wrote the following code to convert an image from sdcard to a Base64 encoded string to send as a JSON object.And it works great:

String filepath = "/sdcard/temp.png";
File imagefile = new File(filepath);
FileInputStream fis = null;
try {
    fis = new FileInputStream(imagefile);
    } catch (FileNotFoundException e) {
    e.printStackTrace();
}

Bitmap bm = BitmapFactory.decodeStream(fis);
ByteArrayOutputStream baos = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
bm.compress(Bitmap.CompressFormat.JPEG, 100 , baos);
byte[] b = baos.toByteArray();
encImage = Base64.encodeToString(b, Base64.DEFAULT);

How to right-align and justify-align in Markdown?

In a generic Markdown document, use:

<style>body {text-align: right}</style>

or

<style>body {text-align: justify}</style>

Does not seem to work with Jupyter though.

What does it mean to "program to an interface"?

The specific example I used to give to students is that they should write

List myList = new ArrayList(); // programming to the List interface

instead of

ArrayList myList = new ArrayList(); // this is bad

These look exactly the same in a short program, but if you go on to use myList 100 times in your program you can start to see a difference. The first declaration ensures that you only call methods on myList that are defined by the List interface (so no ArrayList specific methods). If you've programmed to the interface this way, later on you can decide that you really need

List myList = new TreeList();

and you only have to change your code in that one spot. You already know that the rest of your code doesn't do anything that will be broken by changing the implementation because you programmed to the interface.

The benefits are even more obvious (I think) when you're talking about method parameters and return values. Take this for example:

public ArrayList doSomething(HashMap map);

That method declaration ties you to two concrete implementations (ArrayList and HashMap). As soon as that method is called from other code, any changes to those types probably mean you're going to have to change the calling code as well. It would be better to program to the interfaces.

public List doSomething(Map map);

Now it doesn't matter what kind of List you return, or what kind of Map is passed in as a parameter. Changes that you make inside the doSomething method won't force you to change the calling code.

Check if a string within a list contains a specific string with Linq

If yoou use Contains, you could get false positives. Suppose you have a string that contains such text: "My text data Mdd LH" Using Contains method, this method will return true for call. The approach is use equals operator:

bool exists = myStringList.Any(c=>c == "Mdd LH")

<xsl:variable> Print out value of XSL variable using <xsl:value-of>

Your main problem is thinking that the variable you declared outside of the template is the same variable being "set" inside the choose statement. This is not how XSLT works, the variable cannot be reassigned. This is something more like what you want:

<xsl:template match="class">
  <xsl:copy><xsl:apply-templates select="@*|node()"/></xsl:copy>
  <xsl:variable name="subexists">
    <xsl:choose>
      <xsl:when test="joined-subclass">true</xsl:when>
      <xsl:otherwise>false</xsl:otherwise>
    </xsl:choose>
  </xsl:variable>
  subexists:      <xsl:value-of select="$subexists" />
</xsl:template>

And if you need the variable to have "global" scope then declare it outside of the template:

<xsl:variable name="subexists">
  <xsl:choose>
     <xsl:when test="/path/to/node/joined-subclass">true</xsl:when>
     <xsl:otherwise>false</xsl:otherwise>
  </xsl:choose>
</xsl:variable>

<xsl:template match="class">
   subexists:      <xsl:value-of select="$subexists" />
</xsl:template>

How to add element in Python to the end of list using list.insert?

list.insert with any index >= len(of_the_list) places the value at the end of list. It behaves like append

Python 3.7.4
>>>lst=[10,20,30]
>>>lst.insert(len(lst), 101)
>>>lst
[10, 20, 30, 101]
>>>lst.insert(len(lst)+50, 202)
>>>lst
[10, 20, 30, 101, 202]

Time complexity, append O(1), insert O(n)

PHP shorthand for isset()?

Update for PHP 7 (thanks shock_gone_wild)

PHP 7 introduces the so called null coalescing operator which simplifies the below statements to:

$var = $var ?? "default";

Before PHP 7

No, there is no special operator or special syntax for this. However, you could use the ternary operator:

$var = isset($var) ? $var : "default";

Or like this:

isset($var) ?: $var = 'default';

SQL Column definition : default value and not null redundant?

My SQL teacher said that if you specify both a DEFAULT value and NOT NULLor NULL, DEFAULT should always be expressed before NOT NULL or NULL.

Like this:

ALTER TABLE tbl ADD COLUMN col VARCHAR(20) DEFAULT "MyDefault" NOT NULL

ALTER TABLE tbl ADD COLUMN col VARCHAR(20) DEFAULT "MyDefault" NULL

Break out of a While...Wend loop

A While/Wend loop can only be exited prematurely with a GOTO or by exiting from an outer block (Exit sub/function or another exitable loop)

Change to a Do loop instead:

Do While True
    count = count + 1

    If count = 10 Then
        Exit Do
    End If
Loop

Or for looping a set number of times:

for count = 1 to 10
   msgbox count
next

(Exit For can be used above to exit prematurely)

How does `scp` differ from `rsync`?

rysnc can be useful to run on slow and unreliable connections. So if your download aborts in the middle of a large file rysnc will be able to continue from where it left off when invoked again.

Use rsync -vP username@host:/path/to/file .

The -P option preserves partially downloaded files and also shows progress.

As usual check man rsync

javascript variable reference/alias

Expanding on user187291's post, you could also use getters/setters to get around having to use functions.

var x = 1;
var ref = {
    get x()  { return x; },
    set x(v) { x = v; }
};
(ref.x)++;
console.log(x); // prints '2'
x--;
console.log(ref.x); // prints '1'

To get total number of columns in a table in sql

In my situation, I was comparing table schema column count for 2 identical tables in 2 databases; one is the main database and the other is the archival database. I did this (SQL 2012+):

DECLARE @colCount1 INT;
DECLARE @colCount2 INT;

SELECT @colCount1 = COUNT(COLUMN_NAME) FROM MainDB.INFORMATION_SCHEMA.COLUMNS WHERE TABLE_NAME = 'SomeTable';
SELECT @colCount2 = COUNT(COLUMN_NAME) FROM ArchiveDB.INFORMATION_SCHEMA.COLUMNS WHERE TABLE_NAME = 'SomeTable';

IF (@colCount1 != @colCount2) THROW 5000, 'Number of columns in both tables are not equal. The archive schema may need to be updated.', 16;

The important thing to notice here is qualifying the database name before INFORMATION_SCHEMA (which is a schema, like dbo). This will allow the code to break, in case columns were added to the main database and not to the archival database, in which if the procedure were allowed to run, data loss would almost certainly occur.

How to sort a list of strings numerically?

Python's sort isn't weird. It's just that this code:

for item in list1:
   item=int(item)

isn't doing what you think it is - item is not replaced back into the list, it is simply thrown away.

Anyway, the correct solution is to use key=int as others have shown you.

jquery change button color onclick

Add this code to your page:

<script type="text/javascript">

   $("input[type='submit']").click(function(){
      $(this).css('background-color','red');
    });
});
</script>

How can I close a dropdown on click outside?

I decided to post my own solution based on my use case. I have a href with a (click) event in Angular 11. This toggles a menu component in the main app.ts on off/

<li><a href="javascript:void(0)" id="menu-link" (click)="toggleMenu();" ><img id="menu-image" src="img/icons/menu-white.png" ></a></li>

The menu component (e.g. div) is visible (*ngIf) based on a boolean named "isMenuVisible". And of course it can be a dropdown or any component.

In the app.ts I have this simple function

@HostListener('document:click', ['$event'])
onClick(event: Event) {

    const elementId = (event.target as Element).id;
    if (elementId.includes("menu")) {
        return;
    }

    this.isMenuVisble = false;

}

This means that clicking anywhere outside the "named" context closes/hides the "named" component.

Convert DataFrame column type from string to datetime, dd/mm/yyyy format

If you have a mixture of formats in your date, don't forget to set infer_datetime_format=True to make life easier.

df['date'] = pd.to_datetime(df['date'], infer_datetime_format=True)

Source: pd.to_datetime

or if you want a customized approach:

def autoconvert_datetime(value):
    formats = ['%m/%d/%Y', '%m-%d-%y']  # formats to try
    result_format = '%d-%m-%Y'  # output format
    for dt_format in formats:
        try:
            dt_obj = datetime.strptime(value, dt_format)
            return dt_obj.strftime(result_format)
        except Exception as e: # throws exception when format doesn't match
            pass
    return value # let it be if it doesn't match

df['date'] = df['date'].apply(autoconvert_datetime)

If using maven, usually you put log4j.properties under java or resources?

src/main/resources is the "standard placement" for this.

Update: The above answers the question, but its not the best solution. Check out the other answers and the comments on this ... you would probably not shipping your own logging properties with the jar but instead leave it to the client (for example app-server, stage environment, etc) to configure the desired logging. Thus, putting it in src/test/resources is my preferred solution.

Note: Speaking of leaving the concrete log config to the client/user, you should consider replacing log4j with slf4j in your app.

Show current assembly instruction in GDB

GDB Dashboard

https://github.com/cyrus-and/gdb-dashboard

This GDB configuration uses the official GDB Python API to show us whatever we want whenever GDB stops after for example next, much like TUI.

However I have found that this implementation is a more robust and configurable alternative to the built-in GDB TUI mode as explained at: gdb split view with code

For example, we can configure GDB Dashboard to show disassembly, source, registers and stack with:

dashboard -layout source assembly registers stack

Here is what it looks like if you enable all available views instead:

Java: how to initialize String[]?

You need to initialize errorSoon, as indicated by the error message, you have only declared it.

String[] errorSoon;                   // <--declared statement
String[] errorSoon = new String[100]; // <--initialized statement

You need to initialize the array so it can allocate the correct memory storage for the String elements before you can start setting the index.

If you only declare the array (as you did) there is no memory allocated for the String elements, but only a reference handle to errorSoon, and will throw an error when you try to initialize a variable at any index.

As a side note, you could also initialize the String array inside braces, { } as so,

String[] errorSoon = {"Hello", "World"};

which is equivalent to

String[] errorSoon = new String[2];
errorSoon[0] = "Hello";
errorSoon[1] = "World";

Authentication failed to bitbucket

I was trying the git push --all bitbucket call and it was throwing back the "fatal: Authentication failed for 'https://..." response. The solution that worked for me was to change the command to:

On Windows, this popped up a dialog that allowed me to enter my password and the push worked.

Android studio- "SDK tools directory is missing"

"Android SDK was installed to: C: / Users / user / AppData / Local / android / SDK2 SDK tools directory is missing " It means the Android SDK requires a folder "tools", where this SDK was installed. But that "Tools" folder did not get installed. Probably due to low storage.

[SOLUTION] : Uninstall the Android SDK and install it again. This time just make sure that you have ATLEAST 5GB (though 3.2gb would be enough) free space where ever you are going to install this SDK. Once the installation is complete, just check whether "tools" folder is there or not (At the location where you are installing the SDK)

DateTime2 vs DateTime in SQL Server

Accepted answer is great, just know that if you are sending a DateTime2 to the frontend - it gets rounded to the normal DateTime equivalent.

This caused a problem for me because in a solution of mine I had to compare what was sent with what was on the database when resubmitted, and my simple comparison '==' didn't allow for rounding. So it had to be added.

How much data can a List can hold at the maximum?

The interface however defines the size() method, which returns an int.

Returns the number of elements in this list. If this list contains more than Integer.MAX_VALUE elements, returns Integer.MAX_VALUE.

So, no limit, but after you reach Integer.MAX_VALUE, the behaviour of the list changes a bit

ArrayList (which is tagged) is backed by an array, and is limited to the size of the array - i.e. Integer.MAX_VALUE

Send email with PHP from html form on submit with the same script

EDIT (#1)

If I understand correctly, you wish to have everything in one page and execute it from the same page.

You can use the following code to send mail from a single page, for example index.php or contact.php

The only difference between this one and my original answer is the <form action="" method="post"> where the action has been left blank.

It is better to use header('Location: thank_you.php'); instead of echo in the PHP handler to redirect the user to another page afterwards.

Copy the entire code below into one file.

<?php
if(isset($_POST['submit'])){
    $to = "[email protected]"; // this is your Email address
    $from = $_POST['email']; // this is the sender's Email address
    $first_name = $_POST['first_name'];
    $last_name = $_POST['last_name'];
    $subject = "Form submission";
    $subject2 = "Copy of your form submission";
    $message = $first_name . " " . $last_name . " wrote the following:" . "\n\n" . $_POST['message'];
    $message2 = "Here is a copy of your message " . $first_name . "\n\n" . $_POST['message'];

    $headers = "From:" . $from;
    $headers2 = "From:" . $to;
    mail($to,$subject,$message,$headers);
    mail($from,$subject2,$message2,$headers2); // sends a copy of the message to the sender
    echo "Mail Sent. Thank you " . $first_name . ", we will contact you shortly.";
    // You can also use header('Location: thank_you.php'); to redirect to another page.
    }
?>

<!DOCTYPE html>
<head>
<title>Form submission</title>
</head>
<body>

<form action="" method="post">
First Name: <input type="text" name="first_name"><br>
Last Name: <input type="text" name="last_name"><br>
Email: <input type="text" name="email"><br>
Message:<br><textarea rows="5" name="message" cols="30"></textarea><br>
<input type="submit" name="submit" value="Submit">
</form>

</body>
</html>

Original answer

I wasn't quite sure as to what the question was, but am under the impression that a copy of the message is to be sent to the person who filled in the form.

Here is a tested/working copy of an HTML form and PHP handler. This uses the PHP mail() function.

The PHP handler will also send a copy of the message to the person who filled in the form.

You can use two forward slashes // in front of a line of code if you're not going to use it.

For example: // $subject2 = "Copy of your form submission"; will not execute.

HTML FORM:

<!DOCTYPE html>
<head>
<title>Form submission</title>
</head>
<body>

<form action="mail_handler.php" method="post">
First Name: <input type="text" name="first_name"><br>
Last Name: <input type="text" name="last_name"><br>
Email: <input type="text" name="email"><br>
Message:<br><textarea rows="5" name="message" cols="30"></textarea><br>
<input type="submit" name="submit" value="Submit">
</form>

</body>
</html>

PHP handler (mail_handler.php)

(Uses info from HTML form and sends the Email)

<?php
if(isset($_POST['submit'])){
    $to = "[email protected]"; // this is your Email address
    $from = $_POST['email']; // this is the sender's Email address
    $first_name = $_POST['first_name'];
    $last_name = $_POST['last_name'];
    $subject = "Form submission";
    $subject2 = "Copy of your form submission";
    $message = $first_name . " " . $last_name . " wrote the following:" . "\n\n" . $_POST['message'];
    $message2 = "Here is a copy of your message " . $first_name . "\n\n" . $_POST['message'];

    $headers = "From:" . $from;
    $headers2 = "From:" . $to;
    mail($to,$subject,$message,$headers);
    mail($from,$subject2,$message2,$headers2); // sends a copy of the message to the sender
    echo "Mail Sent. Thank you " . $first_name . ", we will contact you shortly.";
    // You can also use header('Location: thank_you.php'); to redirect to another page.
    // You cannot use header and echo together. It's one or the other.
    }
?>

To send as HTML:

If you wish to send mail as HTML and for both instances, then you will need to create two separate sets of HTML headers with different variable names.

Read the manual on mail() to learn how to send emails as HTML:

Footnotes:

  • In regards to HTML5

You have to specify the URL of the service that will handle the submitted data, using the action attribute.

As outlined at https://www.w3.org/TR/html5/forms.html under 4.10.1.3 Configuring a form to communicate with a server. For complete information, consult the page.

Therefore, action="" will not work in HTML5.

The proper syntax would be:

  • action="handler.xxx" or
  • action="http://www.example.com/handler.xxx".

Note that xxx will be the extension of the type of file used to handle the process. This could be a .php, .cgi, .pl, .jsp file extension etc.

Consult the following Q&A on Stack if sending mail fails:

Assign one struct to another in C

Yes, you can assign one instance of a struct to another using a simple assignment statement.

  • In the case of non-pointer or non pointer containing struct members, assignment means copy.

  • In the case of pointer struct members, assignment means pointer will point to the same address of the other pointer.

Let us see this first hand:

#include <stdio.h>

struct Test{
    int foo;
    char *bar;
};

int main(){
    struct Test t1;
    struct Test t2;
    t1.foo = 1;
    t1.bar = malloc(100 * sizeof(char));
    strcpy(t1.bar, "t1 bar value");
    t2.foo = 2;
    t2.bar = malloc(100 * sizeof(char));
    strcpy(t2.bar, "t2 bar value");
    printf("t2 foo and bar before copy: %d %s\n", t2.foo, t2.bar);

How do I plot only a table in Matplotlib?

If you just wanted to change the example and put the table at the top, then loc='top' in the table declaration is what you need,

the_table = ax.table(cellText=cell_text,
                      rowLabels=rows,
                      rowColours=colors,
                      colLabels=columns,
                      loc='top')

Then adjusting the plot with,

plt.subplots_adjust(left=0.2, top=0.8)

A more flexible option is to put the table in its own axis using subplots,

import numpy as np
import matplotlib.pyplot as plt

fig, axs =plt.subplots(2,1)
clust_data = np.random.random((10,3))
collabel=("col 1", "col 2", "col 3")
axs[0].axis('tight')
axs[0].axis('off')
the_table = axs[0].table(cellText=clust_data,colLabels=collabel,loc='center')

axs[1].plot(clust_data[:,0],clust_data[:,1])
plt.show()

which looks like this,

enter image description here

You are then free to adjust the locations of the axis as required.

How do I find out which computer is the domain controller in Windows programmatically?

In C#/.NET 3.5 you could write a little program to do:

using (PrincipalContext context = new PrincipalContext(ContextType.Domain))
{
    string controller = context.ConnectedServer;
    Console.WriteLine( "Domain Controller:" + controller );
}

This will list all the users in the current domain:

using (PrincipalContext context = new PrincipalContext(ContextType.Domain))
{
    using (UserPrincipal searchPrincipal = new UserPrincipal(context))
    {
       using (PrincipalSearcher searcher = new PrincipalSearcher(searchPrincipal))
       {
           foreach (UserPrincipal principal in searcher.FindAll())
           {
               Console.WriteLine( principal.SamAccountName);
           }
       }
    }
}

Escape single quote character for use in an SQLite query

Just in case if you have a loop or a json string that need to insert in the database. Try to replace the string with a single quote . here is my solution. example if you have a string that contain's a single quote.

String mystring = "Sample's";
String myfinalstring = mystring.replace("'","''");

 String query = "INSERT INTO "+table name+" ("+field1+") values ('"+myfinalstring+"')";

this works for me in c# and java

MySQL load NULL values from CSV data

(variable1, @variable2, ..) SET variable2 = nullif(@variable2, '' or ' ') >> you can put any condition

JS jQuery - check if value is in array

The Array.prototype property represents the prototype for the Array constructor and allows you to add new properties and methods to all Array objects. we can create a prototype for this purpose

Array.prototype.has_element = function(element) {
    return $.inArray( element, this) !== -1;
};

And then use it like this

var numbers= [1, 2, 3, 4];
numbers.has_element(3) => true
numbers.has_element(10) => false

See the Demo below

Append text to file from command line without using io redirection

If you don't mind using sed then,

$ cat test
this is line 1
$ sed -i '$ a\this is line 2 without redirection' test
$ cat test
this is line 1
this is line 2 without redirection

As the documentation may be a bit long to go through, some explanations :

  • -i means an inplace transformation, so all changes will occur in the file you specify
  • $ is used to specify the last line
  • a means append a line after
  • \ is simply used as a delimiter

Why am I getting InputMismatchException?

Instead of using a dot, like: 1.2, try to input like this: 1,2.

Could not locate Gemfile

Make sure you are in the project directory before running bundle install. For example, after running rails new myproject, you will want to cd myproject before running bundle install.

Virtual/pure virtual explained

"A virtual function or virtual method is a function or method whose behavior can be overridden within an inheriting class by a function with the same signature" - wikipedia

This is not a good explanation for virtual functions. Because, even if a member is not virtual, inheriting classes can override it. You can try and see it yourself.

The difference shows itself when a function take a base class as a parameter. When you give an inheriting class as the input, that function uses the base class implementation of the overriden function. However, if that function is virtual, it uses the one that is implemented in the deriving class.

How to test an SQL Update statement before running it?

I know this is a repeat of other answers, but it has some emotional support to take the extra step for testing update :D

For testing update, hash # is your friend.

If you have an update statement like:

UPDATE
wp_history
SET history_by="admin"
WHERE
history_ip LIKE '123%'

You hash UPDATE and SET out for testing, then hash them back in:

SELECT * FROM
#UPDATE
wp_history
#SET history_by="admin"
WHERE
history_ip LIKE '123%'

It works for simple statements.

An additional practically mandatory solution is, to get a copy (backup duplicate), whenever using update on a production table. Phpmyadmin > operations > copy: table_yearmonthday. It just takes a few seconds for tables <=100M.

How to print out more than 20 items (documents) in MongoDB's shell?

From the shell if you want to show all results you could do db.collection.find().toArray() to get all results without it.

Detect URLs in text with JavaScript

Function can be further improved to render images as well:

function renderHTML(text) {
    var rawText = strip(text)
    var urlRegex =/(\b(https?|ftp|file):\/\/[-A-Z0-9+&@#\/%?=~_|!:,.;]*[-A-Z0-9+&@#\/%=~_|])/ig;

    return rawText.replace(urlRegex, function(url) {

    if ( ( url.indexOf(".jpg") > 0 ) || ( url.indexOf(".png") > 0 ) || ( url.indexOf(".gif") > 0 ) ) {
            return '<img src="' + url + '">' + '<br/>'
        } else {
            return '<a href="' + url + '">' + url + '</a>' + '<br/>'
        }
    })
}

or for a thumbnail image that links to fiull size image:

return '<a href="' + url + '"><img style="width: 100px; border: 0px; -moz-border-radius: 5px; border-radius: 5px;" src="' + url + '">' + '</a>' + '<br/>'

And here is the strip() function that pre-processes the text string for uniformity by removing any existing html.

function strip(html)
    {
        var tmp = document.createElement("DIV");
        tmp.innerHTML = html;
        var urlRegex =/(\b(https?|ftp|file):\/\/[-A-Z0-9+&@#\/%?=~_|!:,.;]*[-A-Z0-9+&@#\/%=~_|])/ig;
        return tmp.innerText.replace(urlRegex, function(url) {
        return '\n' + url
    })
}

What is the meaning of CTOR?

It's just shorthand for "constructor" - and it's what the constructor is called in IL, too. For example, open up Reflector and look at a type and you'll see members called .ctor for the various constructors.

Multiple Indexes vs Multi-Column Indexes

The multi-column index can be used for queries referencing all the columns:

SELECT *
FROM TableName
WHERE Column1=1 AND Column2=2 AND Column3=3

This can be looked up directly using the multi-column index. On the other hand, at most one of the single-column index can be used (it would have to look up all records having Column1=1, and then check Column2 and Column3 in each of those).

Difference between getContext() , getApplicationContext() , getBaseContext() and "this"

getApplicationContext()

this is used for application level and refer to all activities.

getContext() and getBaseContext()

is most probably same .these are reffered only current activity which is live.

this

is refer current class object always.

How do you align left / right a div without using float?

Another solution could be something like following (works depending on your element's display property):

HTML:

<div class="left-align">Left</div>
<div class="right-align">Right</div>

CSS:

.left-align {
  margin-left: 0;
  margin-right: auto;
}
.right-align {
  margin-left: auto;
  margin-right: 0;
}

How to build an APK file in Eclipse?

Windows Scheduled task succeeds but returns result 0x1

For Powershell scripts

I have seen this problem multiple times while scheduling Powershell scripts with parameters on multiple Windows servers. The solution has always been to use the -File parameter:

  1. Under "Actions" --> "Program / Script" Type: "Powershell"
  2. Under "Add arguments", instead of just typeing "C:/script/test.ps1" use -File "C:/script/test.ps1"

Happy scheduling!

how to set the background color of the whole page in css

The body's size is dynamic, it is only as large as the size of its contents. In the css file you could use: * {background-color: black} // All elements now have a black background.

or

html {background-color: black} // The page now have a black background, all elements remain the same.

ab load testing

I was also curious if I can measure the speed of my script with apache abs or a construct / destruct php measure script or a php extension.

the last two have failed for me: they are approximate. after which I thought to try "ab" and "abs".

the command "ab -k -c 350 -n 20000 example.com/" is beautiful because it's all easier!

but did anyone think to "localhost" on any apache server for example www.apachefriends.org?

you should create a folder such as "bench" in root where you have 2 files: test "bench.php" and reference "void.php".

and then: benchmark it!

bench.php

<?php

for($i=1;$i<50000;$i++){
    print ('qwertyuiopasdfghjklzxcvbnm1234567890');
}
?>

void.php

<?php
?>

on your Desktop you should use a .bat file(in Windows) like this:

bench.bat

"c:\xampp\apache\bin\abs.exe" -n 10000 http://localhost/bench/void.php
"c:\xampp\apache\bin\abs.exe" -n 10000 http://localhost/bench/bench.php
pause

Now if you pay attention closely ...

the void script isn't produce zero results !!! SO THE CONCLUSION IS: from the second result the first result should be decreased!!!

here i got :

c:\xampp\htdocs\bench>"c:\xampp\apache\bin\abs.exe" -n 10000 http://localhost/bench/void.php

And insert following two lines with respect to your Username and SDK directory

export PATH=$PATH:/Users/<username>/Library/Android/sdk/tools
export PATH=$PATH:/Users/<username>/Library/Android/sdk/platform-tools

How do I use the CONCAT function in SQL Server 2008 R2?

CONCAT is new to SQL Server 2012. The link you gave makes this clear, it is not a function on Previous Versions, including 2008 R2.

That it is part of SQL Server 2012 can be seen in the document tree:

SQL Server 2012
Product Documentation
Books Online for SQL Server 2012
Database Engine
  Transact-SQL Reference (Database Engine)
    Built-in Functions (Transact-SQL)
      String Functions (Transact-SQL)

EDIT Martin Smith helpfully points out that SQL Server provides an implementation of ODBC's CONCAT function.

Why a function checking if a string is empty always returns true?

In your if clause in the function, you're referring to a variable strTemp that doesn't exist. $strTemp does exist, though.

But PHP already has an empty() function available; why make your own?

if (empty($str))
    /* String is empty */
else
    /* Not empty */

From php.net:

Return Values

Returns FALSE if var has a non-empty and non-zero value.

The following things are considered to be empty:

* "" (an empty string)
* 0 (0 as an integer)
* "0" (0 as a string)
* NULL
* FALSE
* array() (an empty array)
* var $var; (a variable declared, but without a value in a class)

Best way to integrate Python and JavaScript?

Use Js2Py to translate JavaScript to Python, this is the only tool available :)

In Bash, how do I add a string after each line in a file?

Sed is a little ugly, you could do it elegantly like so:

hendry@i7 tmp$ cat foo
bar
candy
car
hendry@i7 tmp$ for i in `cat foo`; do echo ${i}bar; done
barbar
candybar
carbar

Add a border outside of a UIView (instead of inside)

There is actually a very simple solution. Just set them both like this:

view.layer.borderWidth = 5

view.layer.borderColor = UIColor(red: 1, green: 1, blue: 1, alpha: 0.5).cgColor

view.backgroundColor = UIColor(red: 1, green: 1, blue: 1, alpha: 0.25).cgColor

Change the column label? e.g.: change column "A" to column "Name"

I would like to present another answer to this as the currently accepted answer doesn't work for me (I use LibreOffice). This solution should work in Excel, LibreOffice and OpenOffice:

First, insert a new row at the beginning of the sheet. Within that row, define the names you need: new row

Then, in the menu bar, go to View -> Freeze Cells -> Freeze First Row. It'll look like this now: new top row

Now whenever you scroll down in the document, the first row will be "pinned" to the top: new behaviour

create a text file using javascript

That works better with this :

var fso = new ActiveXObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject");
var a = fso.CreateTextFile("c:\\testfile.txt", true);
a.WriteLine("This is a test.");
a.Close();

Nesting queries in SQL

You need to join the two tables and then filter the result in where clause:

SELECT country.name as country, country.headofstate
from country
inner join city on city.id = country.capital
where city.population > 100000
and country.headofstate like 'A%'

C#, Looping through dataset and show each record from a dataset column

I believe you intended it more this way:

foreach (DataTable table in ds.Tables)
{
    foreach (DataRow dr in table.Rows)
    {
        DateTime TaskStart = DateTime.Parse(dr["TaskStart"].ToString());
        TaskStart.ToString("dd-MMMM-yyyy");
        rpt.SetParameterValue("TaskStartDate", TaskStart);
    }
}

You always accessed your first row in your dataset.

Determine SQL Server Database Size

Common Query To Check Database Size in SQL Server that supports both Azure and On-Premises-

Method 1 – Using ‘sys.database_files’ System View

SELECT
    DB_NAME() AS [database_name],
    CONCAT(CAST(SUM(
        CAST( (size * 8.0/1024) AS DECIMAL(15,2) )
    ) AS VARCHAR(20)),' MB') AS [database_size]
FROM sys.database_files;

Method 2 – Using ‘sp_spaceused’ System Stored Procedure

EXEC sp_spaceused ;

Action bar navigation modes are deprecated in Android L

I had the same problem and this solution suited me quite nicely:

In the layout xml file that contains the viewpager, add the a PagerTabStrip as shown:

<android.support.v4.view.PagerTabStrip
    android:id="@+id/pager_tab_strip"
    android:layout_width="match_parent"
    android:layout_height="wrap_content"
    android:layout_gravity="top"
    android:background="#996633"
    android:textColor="#CCCCCC"
    android:paddingTop="5dp"
    android:paddingBottom="5dp" />

To control page titles, add a switch statement to your ViewPager file:

@Override
public CharSequence getPageTitle(int position)
{
    switch (position)
    {
    case 0:
        return "Page 1";

    case 1:
        return "Page 2";

    case 2:
        return "Page 3";

    }

    return null;
}

How to use multiple conditions (With AND) in IIF expressions in ssrs

Here is an example that should give you some idea..

=IIF(First(Fields!Gender.Value,"vw_BrgyClearanceNew")="Female" and
(First(Fields!CivilStatus.Value,"vw_BrgyClearanceNew")="Married"),false,true)

I think you have to identify the datasource name or the table name where your data is coming from.

How to check if a python module exists without importing it

You could just write a little script that would try to import all the modules and tell you which ones are failing and which ones are working:

import pip

if __name__ == '__main__':
    for package in pip.get_installed_distributions():
        pack_string = str(package).split(" ")[0]
        try:
            if __import__(pack_string.lower()):
                print(pack_string + " loaded successfully")
        except Exception as e:
            print(pack_string + " failed with error code: {}".format(e))

Output:

zope.interface loaded successfully
zope.deprecation loaded successfully
yarg loaded successfully
xlrd loaded successfully
WMI loaded successfully
Werkzeug loaded successfully
WebOb loaded successfully
virtualenv loaded successfully
...

Word of warning this will try to import everything so you'll see things like PyYAML failed with error code: No module named pyyaml because the actual import name is just yaml. So as long as you know your imports this should do the trick for you.

What is the best algorithm for overriding GetHashCode?

Microsoft lead for several way of hashing...

//for classes that contain a single int value
return this.value;

//for classes that contain multiple int value
return x ^ y;

//for classes that contain single number bigger than int
return ((int)value ^ (int)(value >> 32));

//for classes that contain class instance fields which inherit from object
return obj1.GetHashCode();

//for classes that contain multiple class instance fields which inherit from object
return obj1.GetHashCode() ^ obj2.GetHashCode() ^ obj3.GetHashCode();

I can guess that for multiple big int you can use this:

int a=((int)value1 ^ (int)(value1 >> 32));
int b=((int)value2 ^ (int)(value2 >> 32));
int c=((int)value3 ^ (int)(value3 >> 32));
return a ^ b ^ c;

And same for multi-type: all converted first to int using GetHashCode() then the int values will be xor'ed and the result is your hash.

For those who use hash as ID (I mean an unique value), hash is naturally limited to a number of digits, I think it was 5 bytes for hashing algorithm, at least MD5.

You may turn multiple values to a hashed value and some of them be same, so don't use it as an identifier. (maybe some day I am going to use your component)

How do I tell Spring Boot which main class to use for the executable jar?

Have seen this issue with Java 1.9 and SpringBoot 1.5.x, when main-class is not specified explicitly.

With Java 1.8, it is able to find main-class without explicit property and 'mvn package' works fine.

jQuery input button click event listener

without the need to place them all into $(function(){...})

Redirect to specified URL on PHP script completion?

You could always just use the tag to refresh the page - or maybe just drop the necessary javascript into the page at the end that would cause the page to redirect. You could even throw that in an onload function, so once its finished, the page is redirected

<?php

  echo $htmlHeader;
  while($stuff){
    echo $stuff;
  }
  echo "<script>window.location = 'http://www.yourdomain.com'</script>";

JSON.parse vs. eval()

There is a difference between what JSON.parse() and eval() will accept. Try eval on this:

var x = "{\"shoppingCartName\":\"shopping_cart:2000\"}"

eval(x)         //won't work
JSON.parse(x)   //does work

See this example.

How to change UINavigationBar background color from the AppDelegate

In Swift 4.2 and Xcode 10.1

You can change your navigation bar colour from your AppDelegate directly to your entire project.

In didFinishLaunchingWithOptions launchOptions: write below to lines of code

UINavigationBar.appearance().tintColor = UIColor.white
UINavigationBar.appearance().barTintColor = UIColor(red: 2/255, green: 96/255, blue: 130/255, alpha: 1.0)

Here

tintColor is for to set background images like back button & menu lines images etc. (See below left and right menu image)

barTintColor is for navigation bar background colour

If you want to set specific view controller navigation bar colour, write below code in viewDidLoad()

//Add navigation bar colour
navigationController?.navigationBar.barTintColor = UIColor(red: 2/255, green: 96/255, blue: 130/255, alpha: 1.0)
navigationController?.navigationBar.tintColor = UIColor.white

Curl not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file

Steps to install curl in windows

Install cURL on Windows

There are 4 steps to follow to get cURL installed on Windows.

Step 1 and Step 2 is to install SSL library. Step 3 is to install cURL. Step 4 is to install a recent certificate

Step One: Install Visual C++ 2008 Redistributables

From https://www.microsoft.com/en-za/download/details.aspx?id=29 For 64bit systems Visual C++ 2008 Redistributables (x64) For 32bit systems Visual C++ 2008 Redistributables (x32)

Step Two: Install Win(32/64) OpenSSL v1.0.0k Light

From http://www.shininglightpro.com/products/Win32OpenSSL.html For 64bit systems Win64 OpenSSL v1.0.0k Light For 32bit systems Win32 OpenSSL v1.0.0k Light

Step Three: Install cURL

Depending on if your system is 32 or 64 bit, download the corresponding** curl.exe.** For example, go to the Win64 - Generic section and download the Win64 binary with SSL support (the one where SSL is not crossed out). Visit http://curl.haxx.se/download.html

Copy curl.exe to C:\Windows\System32

Step Four: Install Recent Certificates

Do not skip this step. Download a recent copy of valid CERT files from https://curl.haxx.se/ca/cacert.pem Copy it to the same folder as you placed curl.exe (C:\Windows\System32) and rename it as curl-ca-bundle.crt

If you have already installed curl or after doing the above steps, add the directory where it's installed to the windows path:

1 - From the Desktop, right-click My Computer and click Properties.
2 - Click Advanced System Settings .
3 - In the System Properties window click the Environment Variables button.
4 - Select Path and click Edit.
5 - Append ;c:\path to curl directory at the end.
5 - Click OK.
6 - Close and re-open the command prompt

How to print a int64_t type in C

Coming from the embedded world, where even uclibc is not always available, and code like

uint64_t myval = 0xdeadfacedeadbeef; printf("%llx", myval);

is printing you crap or not working at all -- i always use a tiny helper, that allows me to dump properly uint64_t hex:

#include <stdlib.h>
#include <stdio.h>
#include <stdint.h>

char* ullx(uint64_t val)
{
    static char buf[34] = { [0 ... 33] = 0 };
    char* out = &buf[33];
    uint64_t hval = val;
    unsigned int hbase = 16;

    do {
        *out = "0123456789abcdef"[hval % hbase];
        --out;
        hval /= hbase;
    } while(hval);

    *out-- = 'x', *out = '0';

    return out;
}

What is log4j's default log file dumping path

You can see the log info in the console view of your IDE if you are not using any log4j properties to generate log file. You can define log4j.properties in your project so that those properties would be used to generate log file. A quick sample is listed below.

Working Copy Locked

To anyone still having this issue (Error: Working copy '{DIR}' locked.), I have your solution:

I found that when one of TortoiseSVN windows crash, it leaves a TSVNCache.exe that still has a few handles to your working copy and that is causing the Lock issues you are seeing (and also prevents Clean Up from doing it's job).

So to resolve this:

Either

1a) Use Process Explorer or similar to delete the handles owned by TSVNCache.exe

1b) ..Or even easier, just use Task Manager to kill TSVNCache.exe

Then

2) Right click -> TortoiseSVN -> Clean up. Only "Clean up working copy status" needs to be checked.

From there, happy updating/committing. You can reproduce Lock behavior by doing SVN Update and then quickly killing it's TortoiseProc.exe process before Update finishes.

Where do I find the Instagram media ID of a image

You can use the shortcode media API from instagram. If you use php you can use the following code to get the shortcode from the image's URL:

$matches = [];

preg_match('/instagram\.com\/p\/([^\/]*)/i', $url, $matches);

if (count($matches) > 1) {
    $shortcode = $matches[1];
}

Then send a request to the API using your access token (Replace ACCESS-TOKEN with your token)

$apiUrl = sprintf("https://api.instagram.com/v1/media/shortcode/%s?access_token=ACCESS-TOKEN", $shortcode);

How to retrieve available RAM from Windows command line?

Bit old but I wanted to know similar. Just adding the solution I came across since IMO the best answer came from Everardo w/ Physical Memory

wmic OS get FreePhysicalMemory /Value

This lead me to look deeper into wmic... Keep in mind Free Physical Memory is not the type to look at.

wmic OS get FreePhysicalMemory,FreeVirtualMemory,FreeSpaceInPagingFiles /VALUE

This returns something like...

FreePhysicalMemory=2083440
FreeSpaceInPagingFiles=3636128
FreeVirtualMemory=842124

Why doesn't Java offer operator overloading?

Assuming you wanted to overwrite the previous value of the object referred to by a, then a member function would have to be invoked.

Complex a, b, c;
// ...
a = b.add(c);

In C++, this expression tells the compiler to create three (3) objects on the stack, perform addition, and copy the resultant value from the temporary object into the existing object a.

However, in Java, operator= doesn't perform value copy for reference types, and users can only create new reference types, not value types. So for a user-defined type named Complex, assignment means to copy a reference to an existing value.

Consider instead:

b.set(1, 0); // initialize to real number '1'
a = b;
b.set(2, 0);
assert( !a.equals(b) ); // this assertion will fail

In C++, this copies the value, so the comparison will result not-equal. In Java, operator= performs reference copy, so a and b are now referring to the same value. As a result, the comparison will produce 'equal', since the object will compare equal to itself.

The difference between copies and references only adds to the confusion of operator overloading. As @Sebastian mentioned, Java and C# both have to deal with value and reference equality separately -- operator+ would likely deal with values and objects, but operator= is already implemented to deal with references.

In C++, you should only be dealing with one kind of comparison at a time, so it can be less confusing. For example, on Complex, operator= and operator== are both working on values -- copying values and comparing values respectively.

What is the difference between id and class in CSS, and when should I use them?

A class can be used several times, while an ID can only be used once, so you should use classes for items that you know you're going to use a lot. An example would be if you wanted to give all the paragraphs on your webpage the same styling, you would use classes.

Standards specify that any given ID name can only be referenced once within a page or document. Use IDs when there is only one occurence per page. Use classes when there are one or more occurences per page.

What is your favorite C programming trick?

I love empty if-else and while(0) operators.

For example:

#define CMD1(X) do { foo(x); bar(x); } while (0)
#define CMD2(X) if (1) { foo(x); bar(x); } else

I just assigned a variable, but echo $variable shows something else

Additional to putting the variable in quotation, one could also translate the output of the variable using tr and converting spaces to newlines.

$ echo $var | tr " " "\n"
foo
bar
baz

Although this is a little more convoluted, it does add more diversity with the output as you can substitute any character as the separator between array variables.

Set opacity of background image without affecting child elements

You can put the image in the div:after or div:before and set the opacity on that "virtual div"

div:after {
  background: url(https://s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com/s.cdpn.io/3/owl1.jpg);
  opacity: 0.25;
}

Use superscripts in R axis labels

This is a quick example

Check for internet connection with Swift

I have made my own solution using NSTimer and Alamofire:

import Alamofire

public class ConnectionHelper: NSObject {
    var request: Alamofire.Request?

    func isInternetConnected(completionHandler: Bool -> Void) {
        NSTimer.scheduledTimerWithTimeInterval(5.0, target: self, selector: "requestTimeout", userInfo: nil, repeats: false)

        request = Alamofire
            .request(
                Method.HEAD,
                "http://www.testurl.com"
            )
            .response { response in
                if response.3?.code == -999 {
                    completionHandler(
                        false
                    )
                } else {
                    completionHandler(
                        true
                    )
                }
        }
    }

    func requestTimeout() {
        request!.cancel()
    }
}

The NSTimer is used as a timeout, and was used due to unreliable results using the Alamofire timeout. The request should be made to a URL you trust to be reliable, such as your own server or the server that is hosting the services you depend on.

When the timer expires, the request is cancelled and the results are returned using a completion handler.

Usage:

ConnectionHelper().isInternetConnected() { internetConnected in
    if internetConnected {
        // Connected
    } else {
        // Not connected
    }
}

How can I list ALL DNS records?

For Windows:

You may find the need to check the status of your domains DNS records, or check the Name Servers to see which records the servers are pulling.

  1. Launch Windows Command Prompt by navigating to Start > Command Prompt or via Run > CMD.

  2. Type NSLOOKUP and hit Enter. The default Server is set to your local DNS, the Address will be your local IP.

  3. Set the DNS Record type you wish to lookup by typing set type=## where ## is the record type, then hit Enter. You may use ANY, A, AAAA, A+AAAA, CNAME, MX, NS, PTR, SOA, or SRV as the record type.

  4. Now enter the domain name you wish to query then hit Enter.. In this example, we will use Managed.com.

  5. NSLOOKUP will now return the record entries for the domain you entered.

  6. You can also change the Name Servers which you are querying. This is useful if you are checking the records before DNS has fully propagated. To change the Name Server type server [name server]. Replace [name server] with the Name Servers you wish to use. In this example, we will set these as NSA.managed.com.

  7. Once changed, change the query type (Step 3) if needed then enter new a new domain (Step 4.)

For Linux:

1) Check DNS Records Using Dig Command Dig stands for domain information groper is a flexible tool for interrogating DNS name servers. It performs DNS lookups and displays the answers that are returned from the name server(s) that were queried. Most DNS administrators use dig to troubleshoot DNS problems because of its flexibility, ease of use and clarity of output. Other lookup tools tend to have less functionality than dig.

2) Check DNS Records Using NSlookup Command Nslookup is a program to query Internet domain name servers. Nslookup has two modes interactive and non-interactive.

Interactive mode allows the user to query name servers for information about various hosts and domains or to print a list of hosts in a domain.

Non-interactive mode is used to print just the name and requested information for a host or domain. It’s network administration tool which will help them to check and troubleshoot DNS related issues.

3) Check DNS Records Using Host Command host is a simple utility for performing DNS lookups. It is normally used to convert names to IP addresses and vice versa. When no arguments or options are given, host prints a short summary of its command line arguments and options.

What is the best way to test for an empty string with jquery-out-of-the-box?

if (!a) {
  // is emtpy
}

To ignore white space for strings:

if (!a.trim()) {
    // is empty or whitespace
}

If you need legacy support (IE8-) for trim(), use $.trim or a polyfill.

How to print formatted BigDecimal values?

To set thousand separator, say 123,456.78 you have to use DecimalFormat:

     DecimalFormat df = new DecimalFormat("#,###.00");
     System.out.println(df.format(new BigDecimal(123456.75)));
     System.out.println(df.format(new BigDecimal(123456.00)));
     System.out.println(df.format(new BigDecimal(123456123456.78)));

Here is the result:

123,456.75
123,456.00
123,456,123,456.78

Although I set #,###.00 mask, it successfully formats the longer values too. Note that the comma(,) separator in result depends on your locale. It may be just space( ) for Russian locale.

Remote Linux server to remote linux server dir copy. How?

scp will do the job, but there is one wrinkle: the connection to the second remote destination will use the configuration on the first remote destination, so if you use .ssh/config on the local environment, and you expect rsa and dsa keys to work, you have to forward your agent to the first remote host.

Passing parameter using onclick or a click binding with KnockoutJS

A generic answer on how to handle click events with KnockoutJS...

Not a straight up answer to the question as asked, but probably an answer to the question most Googlers landing here have: use the click binding from KnockoutJS instead of onclick. Like this:

**A note about the actual question...*

The actual question has one interesting bit:

// Uh oh! Modifying the DOM....
place.innerHTML = "somthing"

Don't do that! Don't modify the DOM like that when using an MVVM framework like KnockoutJS, especially not the piece of the DOM that is your own parent. If you would do this the button would disappear (if you replace your parent's innerHTML you yourself will be gone forever ever!).

Instead, modify the View Model in your handler instead, and have the View respond. For example:

_x000D_
_x000D_
function RootVm() {_x000D_
  var self = this;_x000D_
  self.buttonWasClickedOnce = ko.observable(false);_x000D_
  self.toggle = function(data, event) {_x000D_
    self.buttonWasClickedOnce(!self.buttonWasClickedOnce());_x000D_
  };_x000D_
}_x000D_
_x000D_

How do you add PostgreSQL Driver as a dependency in Maven?

PostgreSQL drivers jars are included in Central Repository of Maven:

For PostgreSQL up to 9.1, use:

<dependency>
    <groupId>postgresql</groupId>
    <artifactId>postgresql</artifactId>
    <version>VERSION</version>
</dependency>

or for 9.2+

<dependency>
    <groupId>org.postgresql</groupId>
    <artifactId>postgresql</artifactId>
    <version>VERSION</version>
</dependency>

(Thanks to @Caspar for the correction)

error LNK2005, already defined?

Why this error?

You broke the one definition rule and hence the linking error.

Suggested Solutions:

If you need the same named variable in the two cpp files then You need to use Nameless namespace(Anonymous Namespace) to avoid the error.

namespace
{
    int k;
}

If you need to share the same variable across multiple files then you need to use extern.

A.h

extern int k;

A.cpp

#include "A.h"
int k = 0;

B.cpp

#include "A.h"

//Use `k` anywhere in the file

How do I pass JavaScript variables to PHP?

when your page first loads the PHP code first run and set the complete layout of your webpage. after the page layout, it set the JavaScript load up. now JavaScript directly interacts with DOM and can manipulate the layout but PHP can't it needs to refresh the page. There is only way is to refresh your page to and pass the parameters in the page URL so that you can get the data via PHP. So we use AJAX to interact Javascript with PHP without page reload. AJAX can also be used as an API. one more thing if you have already declared the variable in PHP. before the page load then you can use it with your Javascript example.

<script>
var username = "<?php echo $myname;?>";
alert(username);
</script>

the above code is correct and it will work. but the code below is totally wrong and it will never work.

<script>
    var username = "syed ali";
    var <?php $myname;?> = username;
    alert(myname);
    </script>
  • Pass value from JavaScript to PHP via AJAX

    it is the most secure way to do it. because HTML content can be edited via developer tools and the user can manipulate the data. so it is better to use AJAX if you want security over that variable.if you are a newbie to AJAX please learn AJAX it is very simple.

The best and most secure way to pass JavaScript variable into PHP is via AJAX

simple AJAX example

var mydata = 55;
var myname = "syed ali";
var userdata = {'id':mydata,'name':myname};
    $.ajax({
            type: "POST",
            url: "YOUR PHP URL HERE",
            data:userdata,
            success: function(data){
                console.log(data);
            }
            });
  • PASS value from javascript to php via hidden fields.

otherwise, you can create hidden HTML input inside your form. like

<input type="hidden" id="mydata">

then via jQuery or javaScript pass the value to the hidden field. like

<script>
var myvalue = 55;
$("#mydata").val(myvalue);
</script>

Now when you submit the form you can get the value in PHP.

How to commit a change with both "message" and "description" from the command line?

In case you want to improve the commit message with header and body after you created the commit, you can reword it. This approach is more useful because you know what the code does only after you wrote it.

git rebase -i origin/master

Then, your commits will appear:

pick e152ce2 Update framework
pick ffcf91e Some magic
pick fa672e1 Update comments

Select the commit you want to reword and save.

pick e152ce2 Update framework
reword ffcf91e Some magic
pick fa672e1 Update comments

Now, you have the opportunity to add header and body, where the first line will be the header.

Fetch: POST json data

It might be useful to somebody:

I was having the issue that formdata was not being sent for my request

In my case it was a combination of following headers that were also causing the issue and the wrong Content-Type.

So I was sending these two headers with the request and it wasn't sending the formdata when I removed the headers that worked.

"X-Prototype-Version" : "1.6.1",
"X-Requested-With" : "XMLHttpRequest"

Also as other answers suggest that the Content-Type header needs to be correct.

For my request the correct Content-Type header was:

"Content-Type": "application/x-www-form-urlencoded; charset=UTF-8"

So bottom line if your formdata is not being attached to the Request then it could potentially be your headers. Try bringing your headers to a minimum and then try adding them one by one to see if your problem is rsolved.

How to output HTML from JSP <%! ... %> block?

You can do something like this:

<%!
String myMethod(String input) {
    return "test " + input;
}
%>

<%= myMethod("1 2 3") %>

This will output test 1 2 3 to the page.

Reloading .env variables without restarting server (Laravel 5, shared hosting)

A short solution:

use Dotenv;

with(new Dotenv(app()->environmentPath(), app()->environmentFile()))->overload();
with(new LoadConfiguration())->bootstrap(app());

In my case I needed to re-establish database connection after altering .env programmatically, but it didn't work , If you get into this trouble try this

app('db')->purge($connection->getName());

after reloading .env , that's because Laravel App could have accessed the default connection before and the \Illuminate\Database\DatabaseManager needs to re-read config parameters.

What does [STAThread] do?

The STAThreadAttribute marks a thread to use the Single-Threaded COM Apartment if COM is needed. By default, .NET won't initialize COM at all. It's only when COM is needed, like when a COM object or COM Control is created or when drag 'n' drop is needed, that COM is initialized. When that happens, .NET calls the underlying CoInitializeEx function, which takes a flag indicating whether to join the thread to a multi-threaded or single-threaded apartment.

HTML Table different number of columns in different rows

Colspan:

<table>
   <tr>

How does one check if a table exists in an Android SQLite database?

I know nothing about the Android SQLite API, but if you're able to talk to it in SQL directly, you can do this:

create table if not exists mytable (col1 type, col2 type);

Which will ensure that the table is always created and not throw any errors if it already existed.

Need to make a clickable <div> button

Just use an <a> by itself, set it to display: block; and set width and height. Get rid of the <span> and <div>. This is the semantic way to do it. There is no need to wrap things in <divs> (or any element) for layout. That is what CSS is for.

How to Create an excel dropdown list that displays text with a numeric hidden value

There are two types of drop down lists available (I am not sure since which version).

ActiveX Drop Down
You can set the column widths, so your hidden column can be set to 0.

Form Drop Down
You could set the drop down range to a hidden sheet and reference the cell adjacent to the selected item. This would also work with the ActiveX type control.

How do I copy folder with files to another folder in Unix/Linux?

The option you're looking for is -R.

cp -R path_to_source path_to_destination/

  • -R means copy directories recursively. You can also use -r since it's case-insensitive.
  • Note the nuances with adding the trailing / as per @muni764's comment.

How does paintComponent work?

The (very) short answer to your question is that paintComponent is called "when it needs to be." Sometimes it's easier to think of the Java Swing GUI system as a "black-box," where much of the internals are handled without too much visibility.

There are a number of factors that determine when a component needs to be re-painted, ranging from moving, re-sizing, changing focus, being hidden by other frames, and so on and so forth. Many of these events are detected auto-magically, and paintComponent is called internally when it is determined that that operation is necessary.

I've worked with Swing for many years, and I don't think I've ever called paintComponent directly, or even seen it called directly from something else. The closest I've come is using the repaint() methods to programmatically trigger a repaint of certain components (which I assume calls the correct paintComponent methods downstream.

In my experience, paintComponent is rarely directly overridden. I admit that there are custom rendering tasks that require such granularity, but Java Swing does offer a (fairly) robust set of JComponents and Layouts that can be used to do much of the heavy lifting without having to directly override paintComponent. I guess my point here is to make sure that you can't do something with native JComponents and Layouts before you go off trying to roll your own custom-rendered components.

How to put labels over geom_bar in R with ggplot2

As with many tasks in ggplot, the general strategy is to put what you'd like to add to the plot into a data frame in a way such that the variables match up with the variables and aesthetics in your plot. So for example, you'd create a new data frame like this:

dfTab <- as.data.frame(table(df))
colnames(dfTab)[1] <- "x"
dfTab$lab <- as.character(100 * dfTab$Freq / sum(dfTab$Freq))

So that the x variable matches the corresponding variable in df, and so on. Then you simply include it using geom_text:

ggplot(df) + geom_bar(aes(x,fill=x)) +
    geom_text(data=dfTab,aes(x=x,y=Freq,label=lab),vjust=0) +
    opts(axis.text.x=theme_blank(),axis.ticks=theme_blank(),
        axis.title.x=theme_blank(),legend.title=theme_blank(),
        axis.title.y=theme_blank())

This example will plot just the percentages, but you can paste together the counts as well via something like this:

dfTab$lab <- paste(dfTab$Freq,paste("(",dfTab$lab,"%)",sep=""),sep=" ")

Note that in the current version of ggplot2, opts is deprecated, so we would use theme and element_blank now.

PDF files do not open in Internet Explorer with Adobe Reader 10.0 - users get an empty gray screen. How can I fix this for my users?

I don't have an exact solution, but I'll post my experiences with this in case they help anyone else.

From my testing, the gray screen is only triggered on slower machines [1]. To date, I have not been able to recreate it on newer hardware [2]. All of my tests have been in IE8 with Adobe Reader 10.1.2. For my tests I turned off SSL and removed all headers that could have disabled caching.

To recreate the gray screen, I followed the following steps:

1) Navigate to a page that links to a PDF
2) Open the PDF in a new window or tab (either via the context menu or target="_blank")
3) In my tests, this PDF will open without error (however I have received user reports indicating failure on the first PDF load)
4) Close the newly opened window or tab
5) Open the PDF (again) in a new window or tab
6) This PDF will not open, but instead only show the "gray screen" mentioned by the first user (all subsequent PDFs that are loaded will also not display -- until all browser windows are closed)

I performed the above test with several different PDF files (both static and dynamic) generated from different sources and the gray screen issue always occurs when following the above steps (on the "slow" computer).

To mitigate the problem in my application, I "tore down" the page that links to the PDF (removed parts piece by piece until the gray screen no longer occurred). In my particular application (built on closure-library) removing all references to goog.userAgent.adobeReader [3] appears to have fixed the issue. This exact solution won't work with jquery or .net MVC but maybe the process can help you isolate the source of the issue. I have not yet taken the time to isolate which particular portion of goog.userAgent.adobeReader triggers the bug in Adobe Reader, but it is likely that jquery might have similar plugin detection code to that used in closure-library.

How to get the previous URL in JavaScript?

document.referrer

in many cases will get you the URL of the last page the user visited, if they got to the current page by clicking a link (versus typing directly into the address bar, or I believe in some cases, by submitting a form?). Specified by DOM Level 2. More here.

window.history allows navigation, but not access to URLs in the session for security and privacy reasons. If more detailed URL history was available, then every site you visit could see all the other sites you'd been to.

If you're dealing with state moving around your own site, then it's possibly less fragile and certainly more useful to use one of the normal session management techniques: cookie data, URL params, or server side session info.

IE 8: background-size fix

I created jquery.backgroundSize.js: a 1.5K jquery plugin that can be used as a IE8 fallback for "cover" and "contain" values. Have a look at the demo.

Solving your problem could be as simple as:

$("h2#news").css({backgroundSize: "cover"});

With arrays, why is it the case that a[5] == 5[a]?

One thing no-one seems to have mentioned about Dinah's problem with sizeof:

You can only add an integer to a pointer, you can't add two pointers together. That way when adding a pointer to an integer, or an integer to a pointer, the compiler always knows which bit has a size that needs to be taken into account.

Usage of sys.stdout.flush() method

Python's standard out is buffered (meaning that it collects some of the data "written" to standard out before it writes it to the terminal). Calling sys.stdout.flush() forces it to "flush" the buffer, meaning that it will write everything in the buffer to the terminal, even if normally it would wait before doing so.

Here's some good information about (un)buffered I/O and why it's useful:

python save image from url

It is the simplest way to download and save the image from internet using urlib.request package.

Here, you can simply pass the image URL(from where you want to download and save the image) and directory(where you want to save the download image locally, and give the image name with .jpg or .png) Here I given "local-filename.jpg" replace with this.

Python 3

import urllib.request
imgURL = "http://site.meishij.net/r/58/25/3568808/a3568808_142682562777944.jpg"

urllib.request.urlretrieve(imgURL, "D:/abc/image/local-filename.jpg")

You can download multiple images as well if you have all the image URLs from the internet. Just pass those image URLs in for loop, and the code automatically download the images from the internet.

Notification Icon with the new Firebase Cloud Messaging system

Unfortunately this was a limitation of Firebase Notifications in SDK 9.0.0-9.6.1. When the app is in the background the launcher icon is use from the manifest (with the requisite Android tinting) for messages sent from the console.

With SDK 9.8.0 however, you can override the default! In your AndroidManifest.xml you can set the following fields to customise the icon and color:

<meta-data
        android:name="com.google.firebase.messaging.default_notification_icon"
        android:resource="@drawable/notification_icon" />
<meta-data android:name="com.google.firebase.messaging.default_notification_color"
        android:resource="@color/google_blue" />

Note that if the app is in the foreground (or a data message is sent) you can completely use your own logic to customise the display. You can also always customise the icon if sending the message from the HTTP/XMPP APIs.

How do you implement a good profanity filter?

During a job interview of mine, the company CTO who was interviewing me tried out a word/web game I wrote in Java. Out of a word list of the entire Oxford English dictionary, what was the first word that came up to be guessed?

Of course, the most foul word in the English language.

Somehow, I still got the job offer, but I then tracked down a profanity word list (not unlike this one) and wrote a quick script to generate a new dictionary without all of the bad words (without even having to look at the list).

For your particular case, I think comparing the search to real words sounds like the way to go with a word list like that. The alternative styles/punctuation require a bit more work, but I doubt users will use that often enough to be an issue.

What does "commercial use" exactly mean?

If the usage of something is part of the process of you making money, then it's generally considered a commercial use. If the purpose of the site is to, through some means or another, directly or indirectly, make you money, then it's probably commercial use.

If, on the other hand, something is merely incidental (not part of the process of production/working, but instead simply tacked on to the side), there are potential grounds for it not to be considered commercial use.

Does Java support structs?

Structs "really" pure aren't supported in Java. E.g., C# supports struct definitions that represent values and can be allocated anytime.

In Java, the unique way to get an approximation of C++ structs

struct Token
{
    TokenType type;
    Stringp stringValue;
    double mathValue;
}

// Instantiation

{
    Token t = new Token;
}

without using a (static buffer or list) is doing something like

var type = /* TokenType */ ;
var stringValue = /* String */ ;
var mathValue = /* double */ ;

So, simply allocate variables or statically define them into a class.

Java Regex Capturing Groups

The issue you're having is with the type of quantifier. You're using a greedy quantifier in your first group (index 1 - index 0 represents the whole Pattern), which means it'll match as much as it can (and since it's any character, it'll match as many characters as there are in order to fulfill the condition for the next groups).

In short, your 1st group .* matches anything as long as the next group \\d+ can match something (in this case, the last digit).

As per the 3rd group, it will match anything after the last digit.

If you change it to a reluctant quantifier in your 1st group, you'll get the result I suppose you are expecting, that is, the 3000 part.

Note the question mark in the 1st group.

String line = "This order was placed for QT3000! OK?";
Pattern pattern = Pattern.compile("(.*?)(\\d+)(.*)");
Matcher matcher = pattern.matcher(line);
while (matcher.find()) {
    System.out.println("group 1: " + matcher.group(1));
    System.out.println("group 2: " + matcher.group(2));
    System.out.println("group 3: " + matcher.group(3));
}

Output:

group 1: This order was placed for QT
group 2: 3000
group 3: ! OK?

More info on Java Pattern here.

Finally, the capturing groups are delimited by round brackets, and provide a very useful way to use back-references (amongst other things), once your Pattern is matched to the input.

In Java 6 groups can only be referenced by their order (beware of nested groups and the subtlety of ordering).

In Java 7 it's much easier, as you can use named groups.

startForeground fail after upgrade to Android 8.1

After some tinkering for a while with different solutions i found out that one must create a notification channel in Android 8.1 and above.

private fun startForeground() {
    val channelId =
            if (Build.VERSION.SDK_INT >= Build.VERSION_CODES.O) {
                createNotificationChannel("my_service", "My Background Service")
            } else {
                // If earlier version channel ID is not used
                // https://developer.android.com/reference/android/support/v4/app/NotificationCompat.Builder.html#NotificationCompat.Builder(android.content.Context)
                ""
            }

    val notificationBuilder = NotificationCompat.Builder(this, channelId )
    val notification = notificationBuilder.setOngoing(true)
            .setSmallIcon(R.mipmap.ic_launcher)
            .setPriority(PRIORITY_MIN)
            .setCategory(Notification.CATEGORY_SERVICE)
            .build()
    startForeground(101, notification)
}

@RequiresApi(Build.VERSION_CODES.O)
private fun createNotificationChannel(channelId: String, channelName: String): String{
    val chan = NotificationChannel(channelId,
            channelName, NotificationManager.IMPORTANCE_NONE)
    chan.lightColor = Color.BLUE
    chan.lockscreenVisibility = Notification.VISIBILITY_PRIVATE
    val service = getSystemService(Context.NOTIFICATION_SERVICE) as NotificationManager
    service.createNotificationChannel(chan)
    return channelId
}

From my understanding background services are now displayed as normal notifications that the user then can select to not show by deselecting the notification channel.

Update: Also don't forget to add the foreground permission as required Android P:

Django: How can I call a view function from template?

For example, a logout button can be written like this:

<button class="btn btn-primary" onclick="location.href={% url 'logout'%}">Logout</button>

Where logout endpoint:

How to remove RVM (Ruby Version Manager) from my system

If the other answers don’t remove RVM throughly enough for you, RVM’s Troubleshooting page contains this section:

How do I completely clean out all traces of RVM from my system, including for system wide installs?

Here is a custom script which we name as cleanout-rvm. While you can definitely use rvm implode as a regular user or rvmsudo rvm implode for a system wide install, this script is useful as it steps completely outside of RVM and cleans out RVM without using RVM itself, leaving no traces.

#!/bin/bash
/usr/bin/sudo rm -rf $HOME/.rvm $HOME/.rvmrc /etc/rvmrc /etc/profile.d/rvm.sh /usr/local/rvm /usr/local/bin/rvm
/usr/bin/sudo /usr/sbin/groupdel rvm
/bin/echo "RVM is removed. Please check all .bashrc|.bash_profile|.profile|.zshrc for RVM source lines and delete
or comment out if this was a Per-User installation."

Which port we can use to run IIS other than 80?

Also remember, when running on alternate ports, you need to specify the port on the URL:

http://www.example.com:8080

There may be firewalls or proxy servers to consider depending on your environment.

How to query first 10 rows and next time query other 10 rows from table

SET @rownum = 0;
SELECT sub.*, sub.rank as Rank
FROM
(
   SELECT *,  (@rownum := @rownum + 1) as rank
   FROM msgtable
   WHERE cdate = '18/07/2012'
) sub
WHERE rank BETWEEN ((@PageNum - 1) * @PageSize + 1)
  AND (@PageNum * @PageSize)

Every time you pass the parameters @PageNum and the @PageSize to get the specific page you want. For exmple the first 10 rows would be @PageNum = 1 and @PageSize = 10

Doctrine query builder using inner join with conditions

I'm going to answer my own question.

  1. innerJoin should use the keyword "WITH" instead of "ON" (Doctrine's documentation [13.2.6. Helper methods] is inaccurate; [13.2.5. The Expr class] is correct)
  2. no need to link foreign keys in join condition as they're already specified in the entity mapping.

Therefore, the following works for me

$qb->select('c')
    ->innerJoin('c.phones', 'p', 'WITH', 'p.phone = :phone')
    ->where('c.username = :username');

or

$qb->select('c')
    ->innerJoin('c.phones', 'p', Join::WITH, $qb->expr()->eq('p.phone', ':phone'))
    ->where('c.username = :username');

Is there a command like "watch" or "inotifywait" on the Mac?

I have a GIST for this and the usage is pretty simple

watchfiles <cmd> <paths...>

To illustrate, the following command will echo Hello World every time that file1 OR file2 change; and the default interval check is 1 second

watchfiles 'echo Hello World' /path/to/file1 /path/to/file2

If I want to check every 5 seconds I can use the -t flag

watchfiles -t 'echo Hello World' /path/to/file1 /path/to/file2
  • -v enables the verbose mode which shows debug information
  • -q makes watchfiles execute quietly (# will be shown so the user can see the program is executing)
  • -qq makes watchfiles execute completely quietly
  • -h shows the help and usage

What is the difference between MVC and MVVM?

Complementary to many of the responses given, I wanted to add some additional perspective from the Modern client-side web - or Rich Web Application point of view.

Indeed these days simple web sites and larger web applications are commonly built with many popular libraries such as Bootstrap. Built by Steve Sanderson, Knockout provides support for the MVVM pattern which mimics one of the most important behaviors in the pattern: data-binding through the View Model. With a little JavaScript, data and logic can be implemented that can then be added to page elements with simple data-bind HTML attributes, similar to using many of the features of Bootstrap. Together, these two libraries alone offer interactive content; and when combined with routing this approach can result in a simple-yet-powerful approach to building the Single Page Application.

Similarly, a Modern client-side framework such as Angular follows the MVC pattern by convention, but also adds a Service. Interestingly, it is touted as Model-View-Whatever (MVW). (See this post on Stack Overflow.)

Additionally, with the rise of Progressive web frameworks such as Angular 2, we're seeing a change in terminology and perhaps a new architectural pattern where Components comprise of a View or Template and interact with a Service - all of which can be contained in a Module; and a series of Modules makes up the application.

Reset all the items in a form

You can create the form again and dispose the old one.

public partial class Form1 : Form
{
    public Form1()
    {
        InitializeComponent();
    }

    private void btnReset_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
    {
        Form1 NewForm = new Form1();
        NewForm.Show();
        this.Dispose(false);
    }
}

How can a Javascript object refer to values in itself?

You can't refer to a property of an object before you have initialized that object; use an external variable.

var key1 = "it";
var obj = {
  key1 : key1,
  key2 : key1 + " works!"
};

Also, this is not a "JSON object"; it is a Javascript object. JSON is a method of representing an object with a string (which happens to be valid Javascript code).

iptables v1.4.14: can't initialize iptables table `nat': Table does not exist (do you need to insmod?)

iptalbes tool relies on a kernel module interacting with netfilter to control network traffic.

This error happens while iptalbes cannot found that module in kernel, so iptables suggest you to upgrade it :)

Perhaps iptables or your kernel needs to be upgraded.

However in most cases it's just the module not added to kernel or being banned, try this command to check whether be banned:

cd /etc/modprobe.d/ && grep -nr iptable_nat

if the command shows any rule matched, such as blacklist iptable_nat or install iptable_nat /bin/true, delete it. Since iptalbes will cost some performance, it's not strange to ban it while not necessary.

If nothing found in blacklist, try add iptable-nat to the kernal manual:

modprobe iptable-nat

If all of above not works, you can consider really upgrade your kernal...

How to create a stacked bar chart for my DataFrame using seaborn?

You could use pandas plot as @Bharath suggest:

import seaborn as sns
sns.set()
df.set_index('App').T.plot(kind='bar', stacked=True)

Output:

enter image description here

Updated:

from matplotlib.colors import ListedColormap df.set_index('App')\ .reindex_axis(df.set_index('App').sum().sort_values().index, axis=1)\ .T.plot(kind='bar', stacked=True, colormap=ListedColormap(sns.color_palette("GnBu", 10)), figsize=(12,6))

Updated Pandas 0.21.0+ reindex_axis is deprecated, use reindex

from matplotlib.colors import ListedColormap

df.set_index('App')\
  .reindex(df.set_index('App').sum().sort_values().index, axis=1)\
  .T.plot(kind='bar', stacked=True,
          colormap=ListedColormap(sns.color_palette("GnBu", 10)),
          figsize=(12,6))

Output:

A long bigger than Long.MAX_VALUE

If triangle.lborderA is indeed a long then the test in the original code is trivially true, and there is no way to test it. It is also useless.

However, if triangle.lborderA is a double, the comparison is useful and can be tested. isBiggerThanMaxLong(1e300) does return true.

  public static boolean isBiggerThanMaxLong(double in){
    return in > Long.MAX_VALUE;
  }

Copying an array of objects into another array in javascript

A great way for cloning an array is with an array literal and the spread syntax. This is made possible by ES2015.

const objArray = [{name:'first'}, {name:'second'}, {name:'third'}, {name:'fourth'}];

const clonedArr = [...objArray];

console.log(clonedArr) // [Object, Object, Object, Object]

You can find this copy option in MDN's documentation: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/JavaScript/Reference/Operators/Spread_operator#Copy_an_array

It is also an Airbnb's best practice. https://github.com/airbnb/javascript#es6-array-spreads

Note: The spread syntax in ES2015 goes one level deep while copying an array. Therefore, they are unsuitable for copying multidimensional arrays.

'sudo gem install' or 'gem install' and gem locations

You can also install gems in your local environment (without sudo) with

gem install --user-install <gemname>

I recommend that so you don't mess with your system-level configuration even if it's a single-user computer.

You can check where the gems go by looking at gempaths with gem environment. In my case it's "~/.gem/ruby/1.8".

If you need some binaries from local installs added to your path, you can add something to your bashrc like:

if which ruby >/dev/null && which gem >/dev/null; then
    PATH="$(ruby -r rubygems -e 'puts Gem.user_dir')/bin:$PATH"
fi

(from http://guides.rubygems.org/faqs/#user-install)

text box input height

I came here looking for making an input that's actually multiple lines. Turns out I didn't want an input, I wanted a textarea. You can set height or line-height as other answers specify, but it'll still just be one line of a textbox. If you want actual multiple lines, use a textarea instead. The following is an example of a 3-row textarea with a width of 500px (should be a good part of the page, not necessary to set this and will have to change it based on your requirements).

<textarea name="roleExplanation" style="width: 500px" rows="3">This role is for facility managers and holds the highest permissions in the application.</textarea>

'method' object is not subscriptable. Don't know what's wrong

You need to use parentheses: myList.insert([1, 2, 3]). When you leave out the parentheses, python thinks you are trying to access myList.insert at position 1, 2, 3, because that's what brackets are used for when they are right next to a variable.

Start index for iterating Python list

You can always loop using an index counter the conventional C style looping:

for i in range(len(l)-1):
    print l[i+1]

It is always better to follow the "loop on every element" style because that's the normal thing to do, but if it gets in your way, just remember the conventional style is also supported, always.

Replacing instances of a character in a string

to use the .replace() method effectively on string without creating a separate list for example take a look at the list username containing string with some white space, we want to replace the white space with an underscore in each of the username string.

usernames = ["Joey Tribbiani", "Monica Geller", "Chandler Bing", "Phoebe Buffay"]

to replace the white spaces in each username consider using the range function in python.

for i in range(len(usernames)):
    usernames[i] = usernames[i].lower().replace(" ", "_")

print(usernames)

onchange equivalent in angular2

@Mark Rajcok gave a great solution for ion projects that include a range type input.

In any other case of non ion projects I will suggest this:

HTML:

<input type="text" name="points" #points maxlength="8" [(ngModel)]="range" (ngModelChange)="range=saverange($event, points)">

Component:

    onChangeAchievement(eventStr: string, eRef): string {

      //Do something (some manipulations) on input and than return it to be saved:

       //In case you need to force of modifing the Element-Reference value on-focus of input:
       var eventStrToReplace = eventStr.replace(/[^0-9,eE\.\+]+/g, "");
       if (eventStr != eventStrToReplace) {
           eRef.value = eventStrToReplace;
       }

      return this.getNumberOnChange(eventStr);

    }

The idea here:

  1. Letting the (ngModelChange) method to do the Setter job:

    (ngModelChange)="range=saverange($event, points)

  2. Enabling direct access to the native Dom element using this call:

    eRef.value = eventStrToReplace;

Cannot find module '../build/Release/bson'] code: 'MODULE_NOT_FOUND' } js-bson: Failed to load c++ bson extension, using pure JS version

In our case, the reason that the c++ version bson was not found was because we were behind a corporate proxy and something in the BSON build process needs to reach out to fetch files. When we looked in node_modules/bson/builderror.log, we saw an error like this:

gyp WARN install got an error, rolling back install gyp ERR! configure error gyp ERR! stack Error: connect ECONNREFUSED gyp ERR! stack at errnoException (net.js:904:11) gyp ERR! stack at Object.afterConnect [as oncomplete] (net.js:895:19)

Which suggested that the proxy might be the issue. Setting the http_proxy and https_proxy environment variables solved it.

Sorry for reawakening comments on this, but I wanted to post this for anyone else that hits this in the future since this thread was very helpful in solving our issue.

Send HTML in email via PHP

Simplest way is probably to just use Zend Framework or any of the other frameworks like CakePHP or Symphony.

You can do it with the standard mail function too, but you'll need a bit more knowledge on how to attach pictures.

Alternatively, just host the images on a server instead of attaching them. Sending HTML mail is documented in the mail function documentation.

Android - Pulling SQlite database android device

It is always better if things are automated.That's why I wrote simple python script for copying db file from device using ADB. It saves a lot of development time if you're doing it frequently.

Works only with debuggable apps if device is Not rooted.

Here is link to the gist.

Run it as : python copyandroiddbfile.py

# 2. This script ask for PackageName and DatabaseName at runtime.
# 3. You can make it static by passing -d at as command line argument while running script and setting defaults in following way.
# 4. Edit script and change the values of varialbe packageName and dbName to debuggable app package name and database name then
# run script as : python Copydbfileandroid.py -d

How to Select Columns in Editors (Atom,Notepad++, Kate, VIM, Sublime, Textpad,etc) and IDEs (NetBeans, IntelliJ IDEA, Eclipse, Visual Studio, etc)

Eclipse used to need a column mode plugin to be able to select a rectangular selection.

column mode

Since Eclipse 3.5, you just need to type Alt+Shift+A: see its News and Noteworthy section. (On OS X it's Option-Command-A.)

block (aka column or rectangular) selection mode

Or activate the 'Editor Presentation' action set ( Window > Customize Perspective menu) to get a tool bar button for toggling the block selection mode.

AmbroseChapel adds in the comments:

This is a toggle.

Columnar selection is a mode you enter and leave: in other words, Eclipse switches into a mode where all mouse selections have to be columnar and you stay in that mode until you switch back (by using the same command again).
It's not like other editors where columnar selections are enabled only while certain keys are down.
