Since the suggestion of a loop implies the request for a procedure type solution. Here is mine.

Any query which works on any single record taken from a table can be wrapped in a procedure to make it run through each row of a table like so:

First delete any existing procedure with the same name, and change the delimiter so your SQL doesn't try to run each line as you're trying to write the procedure.

You can do whatever you like at the "INSERT INTO" line which I simply copied from your example request.

Note CAREFULLY that the "INSERT INTO" line used here mirrors the line in the question. As per the comments to this answer you need to ensure that your query is syntactically correct for which ever version of SQL you are running.

In the simple case where your ID field is incremented and starts at 1 the line in the example could become:

Replacing the "SELECT COUNT" line with

SET n=10;

Will let you test your query on the first 10 record in table_A only.

One last thing. This process is also very easy to nest across different tables and was the only way I could carry out a process on one table which dynamically inserted different numbers of records into a new table from each row of a parent table.

If you need it to run faster then sure try to make it set based, if not then this is fine. You could also rewrite the above in cursor form but it may not improve performance. eg:

Remember to declare the variables you will use as the same type as those from the queried tables.

My advise is to go with setbased queries when you can, and only use simple loops or cursors if you have to.

My experience is that this works great even when the XML gets more complicated. You can just decouple the XML structure from your java code structure.

The significance of PCC is basically to show you how strongly correlated the two variables/lists are. It is important to note that the PCC value ranges from -1 to 1. A value between 0 to 1 denotes a positive correlation. Value of 0 = highest variation (no correlation whatsoever). A value between -1 to 0 denotes a negative correlation.

Since Qt 5.5 you can use QTextStream::readLineInto. It behaves similar to std::getline and is maybe faster as QTextStream::readLine, because it reuses the string:

A concrete example of overhead is the difference between a "local" procedure call and a "remote" procedure call.

For example, with classic RPC (and many other remote frameworks, like EJB), a function or method call looks the same to a coder whether its a local, in memory call, or a distributed, network call.

For example:

Is that a normal method, or a remote method? From what you see here you can't tell.

But you can imagine that the difference in execution times between the two calls are dramatic.

So, while the core implementation will "cost the same", the "overhead" involved is quite different.

Following @Daniel's comment and thanks to @Tom's answer, I found out that Git bash was indeed using the PATH but not the latest paths I recently installed. To work around this problem, I added a file in my home (windows) directory named:

.bashrc

and the content as follow:

because I was installing Go and this path contained the executable go.exe Now Git bash was able to recognize the command:

One option which seems to missing from the other answers (only mentioned deep down in a comment by naxa) is the following:

This explains why it works for certain programs but not others. E.g. if you do:

The reason it does not fail is that when you unlink and re-write the file, it creates a new inode, and keeps a temporary dangling inode for the running executable file.

int bmi = (10000 * weight) / (height * height)

Eliminates all the floating point, and converts a division by a constant to a multiplication, which should execute faster. Integer precision is probably adequate for this application, but if it is not then:

double bmi = (10000.0 * weight) / (height * height)

would still be an improvement.

In my case, I had to save the bat file with non-unicode (Western, Windows) encoding. By default when I added the file to visual studio (and probably I should have done it outside of the VS), it added with UTF-8 encoding.

I found that ctrl + w to the window you want to close, then just do :q. This works for me.

The iPython shell makes this easy: function? will give you the documentation. function?? shows also the code. BUT this only works for pure python functions.

Just happened to me after upgrading to Android Studio 3.1. The Offline Work checkbox was unchecked, so no luck there.

The IIS core engine uses preconditions to determine when to enable a particular module. First of all, I think you've misunderstood what the viewport is. The viewport is the area a browser uses to render web pages, and you cannot in any way build your web sites to override this area in any way.

Secondly, it seems that the reason that your overlay-div won't cover the entire viewport is because you have to remove all margins on BODY and HTML.

Try adding this at the top of your stylesheet - it resets all margins and paddings on all elements. Makes further development easier:

There is no real solution to this - even in the links to other questions given above. In the end I have decided to use setTimeout and call a method that checks every second! Not an ideal solution, but a solution that works and code I am calling is simple enough to not have an effect on performance by being called all the time.

I've went down the pipenv rabbit hole (it's a deep and dark hole indeed...) and since the last answer is over 2 years ago, felt it was useful to update the discussion with the latest developments on the Python virtual envelopes topic I've found.

DISCLAIMER:

This answer is NOT about continuing the raging debate about the merits of pipenv versus venv as envelope solutions- I make no endorsement of either. It's about PyPA endorsing conflicting standards and how future development of virtualenv promises to negate making an either/or choice between them at all. I focused on these two tools precisely because they are the anointed ones by PyPA.

venv

As the OP notes, venv is a tool for virtualizing environments. NOT a third party solution, but native tool. PyPA endorses venv for creating VIRTUAL ENVELOPES: "Changed in version 3.5: The use of venv is now recommended for creating virtual environments".

pipenv

pipenv- like venv - can be used to create virtual envelopes but additionally rolls-in package management and vulnerability checking functionality. Instead of using requirements.txt, pipenv delivers package management via Pipfile. As PyPA endorses pipenv for PACKAGE MANAGEMENT, that would seem to imply pipfile is to supplant requirements.txt.

HOWEVER: pipenv uses virtualenv as its tool for creating virtual envelopes, NOT venv which is endorsed by PyPA as the go-to tool for creating virtual envelopes.

Conflicting Standards:

So if settling on a virtual envelope solution wasn't difficult enough, we now have PyPA endorsing two different tools which use different virtual envelope solutions. The raging Github debate on venv vs virtualenv which highlights this conflict can be found here.

Conflict Resolution:

The Github debate referenced in above link has steered virtualenv development in the direction of accommodating venv in future releases:

prefer built-in venv: if the target python has venv we'll create the environment using that (and then perform subsequent operations on that to facilitate other guarantees we offer)

Conclusion:

So it looks like there will be some future convergence between the two rival virtual envelope solutions, but as of now pipenv- which uses virtualenv - varies materially from venv.

Given the problems pipenv solves and the fact that PyPA has given its blessing, it appears to have a bright future. And if virtualenv delivers on its proposed development objectives, choosing a virtual envelope solution should no longer be a case of either pipenv OR venv.

Update 20200825:

An oft repeated criticism of Pipenv I saw when producing this analysis was that it was not actively maintained. Indeed, what's the point of using a solution whose future could be seen questionable due to lack of continuous development? After a dry spell of about 18 months, Pipenv is once again being actively developed. Indeed, large and material updates have since been released.

What you show looks like a mesh warp. That would be straightforward using OpenGL, but "straightforward OpenGL" is like straightforward rocket science.

As applications grow in functionality, they also grow in size. Budgets is a feature in the Angular CLI which allows you to set budget thresholds in your configuration to ensure parts of your application stay within boundaries which you set — Official Documentation

Or in other words, we can describe our Angular application as a set of compiled JavaScript files called bundles which are produced by the build process. Angular budgets allows us to configure expected sizes of these bundles. More so, we can configure thresholds for conditions when we want to receive a warning or even fail build with an error if the bundle size gets too out of control!

How To Define A Budget? Angular budgets are defined in the angular.json file. Budgets are defined per project which makes sense because every app in a workspace has different needs.

Thinking pragmatically, it only makes sense to define budgets for the production builds. Prod build creates bundles with “true size” after applying all optimizations like tree-shaking and code minimization.

Oops, a build error! The maximum bundle size was exceeded. This is a great signal that tells us that something went wrong…

1. We might have experimented in our feature and didn’t clean up properly
2. Our tooling can go wrong and perform a bad auto-import, or we pick bad item from the suggested list of imports
3. We might import stuff from lazy modules in inappropriate locations
4. Our new feature is just really big and doesn’t fit into existing budgets

First Approach: Are your files gzipped?

Generally speaking, gzipped file has only about 20% the size of the original file, which can drastically decrease the initial load time of your app. To check if you have gzipped your files, just open the network tab of developer console. In the “Response Headers”, if you should see “Content-Encoding: gzip”, you are good to go.

How to gzip? If you host your Angular app in most of the cloud platforms or CDN, you should not worry about this issue as they probably have handled this for you. However, if you have your own server (such as NodeJS + expressJS) serving your Angular app, definitely check if the files are gzipped. The following is an example to gzip your static assets in a NodeJS + expressJS app. You can hardly imagine this dead simple middleware “compression” would reduce your bundle size from 2.21MB to 495.13KB.

You can also use now() in Postgres. The problem is you can't add/subtract integers from timestamp or timestamptz. You can either do as Mark Byers suggests and subtract an interval, or use the date type which does allow you to add/subtract integers

When I'm about to make a change that might go awry — when I want to explore some direction that I'm not sure if I can follow through on or even whether it's a good idea, such as a conceptually demanding refactoring or changing a representation type — I checkpoint my work into the index.

If this is the first change I've made since my last commit, then I can use the local repository as a checkpoint, but often I've got one conceptual change that I'm implementing as a set of little steps.

They are basically named references for Git commits. There are two major types of refs: tags and heads.

• Tags are fixed references that mark a specific point in history, for example v2.6.29.
• On the contrary, heads are always moved to reflect the current position of project development.

From the Java Language Specification - 15.26.2 Compound Assignment Operators.

A compound assignment expression of the form E1 op= E2 is equivalent to E1 = (T)((E1) op (E2)), where T is the type of E1, except that E1 is evaluated only once.

So a &= b; is equivalent to a = a & b;.

(In some usages, the type-casting makes a difference to the result, but in this one b has to be boolean and the type-cast does nothing.)

And, for the record, a &&= b; is not valid Java. There is no &&= operator.

In practice, there is little semantic difference between a = a & b; and a = a && b;. (If b is a variable or a constant, the result is going to be the same for both versions. There is only a semantic difference when b is a subexpression that has side-effects. In the & case, the side-effect always occurs. In the && case it occurs depending on the value of a.)

On the performance side, the trade-off is between the cost of evaluating b, and the cost of a test and branch of the value of a, and the potential saving of avoiding an unnecessary assignment to a. The analysis is not straight-forward, but unless the cost of calculating b is non-trivial, the performance difference between the two versions is too small to be worth considering.

I think what you are after is Task.Delay. This doesn't block the thread like Sleep does and it means you can do this using a single thread using the async programming model.

This answer still receives a lot of attention. It's worth noting that this answer was posted back at the beginning of 2014 and a lot has changed since then. ecmascript-6 support is now the norm. All modern browsers now support const so it should be pretty safe to use without any problems.

Despite having fairly decent browser support, I'd avoid using it for now. From MDN's article on const:

The current implementation of const is a Mozilla-specific extension and is not part of ECMAScript 5. It is supported in Firefox & Chrome (V8). As of Safari 5.1.7 and Opera 12.00, if you define a variable with const in these browsers, you can still change its value later. It is not supported in Internet Explorer 6-10, but is included in Internet Explorer 11. The const keyword currently declares the constant in the function scope (like variables declared with var).

It then goes on to say:

const is going to be defined by ECMAScript 6, but with different semantics. Similar to variables declared with the let statement, constants declared with const will be block-scoped.

If you do use const you're going to have to add in a workaround to support slightly older browsers.

What about :

You can't do it like that. The join clause (and the Join() extension method) supports only equijoins. That's also the reason, why it uses equals and not ==. And even if you could do something like that, it wouldn't work, because join is an inner join, not outer join.

It's possible to store in a profile.ps1 file any PowerShell code to be executed each time PowerShell starts. There are at least 6 different paths where to store the code depending on which user has to execute it. We will consider only 2 of them: the "all users" and the "only your user" paths (follow the previous link for further options).

To answer your question, you only have to create a profile.ps1 file containing the code you want to be executed, that is:

New-Alias Goto Set-Location

and save it in the proper path:

• "$Home\Documents" (usually C:\Users<yourname>\Documents): Only your user will execute the code. This is the reccomanded place.
  You can quickly find your profile location by running echo $profile in PowerShell
• $PsHome (C:\Windows\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0): Every user will execute the code.

IMPORTANT: Remember you need to restart your PowerShell instances to apply the changes.

TIPS

• If both paths contain a profile.ps1 file, the all-users one is executed first, then the user-specific one. This means the user-specific commands will overwrite variables in case of duplicates or conflicts.

• Always put the code in the user-specific profile if there is no need to extend its execution to every user. This is safer because you don't pollute other users' space (usually, you don't want to do that).
  Another advantage is that you don't need administrator rights to add the file to your user-space (you do for anything in C:\Windows\System32).

• If you really need to execute the profile code for every user, mind that the $PsHome path is different for 32bit and 64bit instances of PowerShell. You should consider both environments if you want to always execute the profile code.
  The paths are:

  • C:\Windows\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0 for the 64bit environment
  • C:\Windows\SysWow64\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0 for the 32bit one (Yeah I know, the folder naming is counterintuitive, but it's correct).

Authentication is done via a simple ldap_bind command that takes the users DN and the password. The user is authenticated when the bind is successfull. Usually you would get the users DN via an ldap_search based on the users uid or email-address.

Getting the users roles is something different as it is an ldap_search and depends on where and how the roles are stored in the ldap. But you might be able to retrieve the roles during the lap_search used to find the users DN.

Here's another solution, usable if the frames are from different domains.

I think primarily you're getting confused between a program's stack and any old stack.

A Stack

Is an abstract data structure which consists of information in a Last In First Out system. You put arbitrary objects onto the stack and then you take them off again, much like an in/out tray, the top item is always the one that is taken off and you always put on to the top.

A Programs Stack

Is a stack, it's a section of memory that is used during execution, it generally has a static size per program and frequently used to store function parameters. You push the parameters onto the stack when you call a function and the function either address the stack directly or pops off the variables from the stack.

A programs stack isn't generally hardware (though it's kept in memory so it can be argued as such), but the Stack Pointer which points to a current area of the Stack is generally a CPU register. This makes it a bit more flexible than a LIFO stack as you can change the point at which the stack is addressing.

You should read and make sure you understand the wikipedia article as it gives a good description of the Hardware Stack which is what you are dealing with.

There is also this tutorial which explains the stack in terms of the old 16bit registers but could be helpful and another one specifically about the stack.

It's worthy of note that some processors do not implement all of the instructions for accessing and manipulating the stack (push, pop, stack pointer, etc) but the x86 does because of it's frequency of use. In these situations if you wanted a stack you would have to implement it yourself (some MIPS and some ARM processors are created without stacks).

In Python the passing by reference or by value has to do with what are the actual objects you are passing.So,if you are passing a list for example,then you actually make this pass by reference,since the list is a mutable object.Thus,you are passing a pointer to the function and you can modify the object (list) in the function body.

When you are passing a string,this passing is done by value,so a new string object is being created and when the function terminates it is destroyed. So it all has to do with mutable and immutable objects.

Open a connection to your server first (SQL IDE) from the home screen. Then use the context menu in the schema tree to run a query that simply selects rows from the selected table. The LIMIT attached to that is to avoid reading too many rows by accident. This limit can be switched off (or adjusted) in the preferences dialog.

Don't try to do this yourself if you're serious about getting edge cases right. So while they many naive/simple methods are theoretically exact, they can have nasty numerical behavior for nearly singular matrices. In particular you can get cancelation/round-off errors that cause you to get arbitrarily bad results.

A "correct" way is Gaussian elimination with row and column pivoting so that you're always dividing by the largest remaining numerical value. (This is also stable for NxN matrices.). Note that row pivoting alone doesn't catch all the bad cases.

However IMO implementing this right and fast is not worth your time - use a well tested library and there are a heap of header only ones.

I still insist that without the negation of the condition in do-while, Salcedo's answer is wrong. One can check this via removing negation symbol in the above code.

This is new item in the language which I think we are going to be struggling with for years to come. The 'auto' of the start presents not only readability problem , from now on when you encounter it you will have to spend considerable time trying to figure out wtf it is(just like the time that intern named all variables xyz :)), but you also will spend considerable time cleaning after easily excitable programmers , like the once who replied before me. Example from above , I can bet $1000 , will be written "for (auto it : s)", not "for (auto& it : s)", as a result invoking move semantics where you list expecting it, modifying your collection underneath .

Another example of the problem is your question itself. You clearly don't know much about stl iterators and you trying to overcome that gap through usage of the magic of 'auto', as a result you create the code that might be problematic later on

If you make the call from the main thread, you must add the STAThread attribute to the Main method, as stated in the previous answer.

If you use a separate thread, it needs to be in a STA (single-threaded apartment), which is not the case for background worker threads. You have to create the thread yourself, like this:

Some libraries attempt to offer alternatives to the builtin java switch statement. Vavr is one of them, they generalize it to pattern matching.

Custom objects (and consequently arrays of objects) take a little more work to save to UserDefaults. See the following links for how to do it.

Notes

• The nil coalescing operator (??) allows you to return the saved array or an empty array without crashing. It means that if the object returns nil, then the value following the ?? operator will be used instead.
• As you can see, the basic setup was the same for Int, Bool, and Date. I also tested it with Double. As far as I know, anything that you can save in a property list will work like this.

The problem is probably you're using a Gradle version rather than 3. go to gradle/wrapper/gradle-wrapper.properties and change the last line to this:

distributionUrl=https\://services.gradle.org/distributions/gradle-3.3-all.zip

In my experience this approach shouldn't be necessary. If you need the context for anything you can usually get it via a call to View.getContext() and using the Context obtained there you can call Context.getApplicationContext() to get the Application context. If you are trying to get the Application context this from an Activity you can always call Activity.getApplication() which should be able to be passed as the Context needed for a call to SQLiteOpenHelper().

Overall there doesn't seem to be a problem with your approach for this situation, but when dealing with Context just make sure you are not leaking memory anywhere as described on the official Google Android Developers blog.

Take a look at Simpleaudio, which is a relatively recent and lightweight library for this purpose:

Using GHC 7.0.3, gcc 4.4.6, Linux 2.6.29 on an x86_64 Core2 Duo (2.5GHz) machine, compiling using ghc -O2 -fllvm -fforce-recomp for Haskell and gcc -O3 -lm for C.

• Your C routine runs in 8.4 seconds (faster than your run probably because of -O3)
• The Haskell solution runs in 36 seconds (due to the -O2 flag)
• Your factorCount' code isn't explicitly typed and defaulting to Integer (thanks to Daniel for correcting my misdiagnosis here!). Giving an explicit type signature (which is standard practice anyway) using Int and the time changes to 11.1 seconds
• in factorCount' you have needlessly called fromIntegral. A fix results in no change though (the compiler is smart, lucky for you).
• You used mod where rem is faster and sufficient. This changes the time to 8.5 seconds.
• factorCount' is constantly applying two extra arguments that never change (number, sqrt). A worker/wrapper transformation gives us:

EDIT: So now that we've explored that, lets address the questions

Question 1: Do erlang, python and haskell lose speed due to using arbitrary length integers or don't they as long as the values are less than MAXINT?

In Haskell, using Integer is slower than Int but how much slower depends on the computations performed. Luckily (for 64 bit machines) Int is sufficient. For portability sake you should probably rewrite my code to use Int64 or Word64 (C isn't the only language with a long).

Question 2: Why is haskell so slow? Is there a compiler flag that turns off the brakes or is it my implementation? (The latter is quite probable as haskell is a book with seven seals to me.)

Question 3: Can you offer me some hints how to optimize these implementations without changing the way I determine the factors? Optimization in any way: nicer, faster, more "native" to the language.

That was what I answered above. The answer was

• 0) Use optimization via -O2
• 1) Use fast (notably: unbox-able) types when possible
• 2) rem not mod (a frequently forgotten optimization) and
• 3) worker/wrapper transformation (perhaps the most common optimization).

Question 4: Do my functional implementations permit LCO and hence avoid adding unnecessary frames onto the call stack?

Yes, that wasn't the issue. Good work and glad you considered this.

We have found Jsmooth to be well-working and easily scriptable with ant under Linux. You may want to use one-jar (also easily scriptable with ant under Linux) to collect a multifile application in a single jar first.

We primarily needed the easy deployment of the EXE combined with the "hey, you need Java version X, go here to download" facilities.

(but what you most likely need is the "Runnable jar" / "Executable jar" facility in standard Java).

Thanks to the folks on Freenode's #macdev, here is some information:

In the old days before Xcode was on the app-store, it included commandline tools.

Now you get it from the store, and with this new mechanism it can't install extra things outside of the Xcode.app, so you have to manually do it yourself, by:

xcode-select --install

On Xcode 4.x you can check to see if they are installed from within the Xcode UI:

My problem of finding gcc/gdb is that they have been superseded by clang/lldb: GDB missing in OS X v10.9 (Mavericks)

Also note that Xcode contains compiler and debugger, so one of the things installing commandline tools will do is symlink or modify $PATH. It also downloads certain things like git.

I have a similar web app and am not facing that sort of problem at all. What i do is something like this:

I do this so that the user can make their way through a playlist, but you could check for userAgent and then load the appropriate file that way. I tried using multiple source tags like everyone on the internet suggested, but i found it much cleaner, and much more reliable to manipulate the src attribute of a single source tag. The code above was written from memory, so i may have glossed over some of hte details, but the general idea is to dynamically change the src attribute of the source tag using javascript, when appropriate.

If there is a failed merge, which is the most common reason for wanting to undo a git pull, running git reset --merge does exactly what one would expect: keep the fetched files, but undo the merge that git pull attempted to merge. Then one can decide what to do without the clutter that git merge sometimes generates. And it does not need one to find the exact commit ID which --hard mentioned in every other answer requires.

As a rule of thumb, the safest bet towards making your document be treated properly by all web servers, proxies, and client browsers, is probably the following:

1. Use the application/xml content type
2. Include a character encoding in the content type, probably UTF-8
3. Include a matching character encoding in the encoding attribute of the XML document itself.

In terms of the RFC 3023 spec, which some browsers fail to implement properly, the major difference in the content types is in how clients are supposed to treat the character encoding, as follows:

For application/xml, application/xml-dtd, application/xml-external-parsed-entity, or any one of the subtypes of application/xml such as application/atom+xml, application/rss+xml or application/rdf+xml, the character encoding is determined in this order:

1. the encoding given in the charset parameter of the Content-Type HTTP header
2. the encoding given in the encoding attribute of the XML declaration within the document,
3. utf-8.

For text/xml, text/xml-external-parsed-entity, or a subtype like text/foo+xml, the encoding attribute of the XML declaration within the document is ignored, and the character encoding is:

1. the encoding given in the charset parameter of the Content-Type HTTP header, or
2. us-ascii.

Most parsers don't implement the spec; they ignore the HTTP Context-Type and just use the encoding in the document. With so many ill-formed documents out there, that's unlikely to change any time soon.

I just had this happen to a developer on the team I administer.

It turned out his developer certificate expired and after renewal, I neglected to add his certificate to the provisioning profile his app used.

Two things you could do I think...

1. Create the System.Diagnostics.Process object manually and bypass Start-Process
2. Run the executable in a background job (only for non-interactive processes!)

The file extension .img does not say anything about its content.

Most commonly .img files are a floppy/CD/DVD/ISO image, a filesystem image, a disk image, or even just (custom) binary data.

In case it is an CD/DVD image or a specific filesystem image (like fat, ntfs, ...) you can open these files with 7-Zip.

On *nix based systems also the file tool or (libmagic) could help you find out what it is.

While the answers above are good they will not catch network errors. As Mark mentioned, BadResponseException is just a super class for ClientException and ServerException. But RequestException is also a super class of BadResponseException. RequestException will be thrown for not only 400 and 500 errors but network errors and infinite redirects too. So let's say you request the page below but your network is playing up and your catch is only expecting a BadResponseException. Well your application will throw an error.

It's better in this case to expect RequestException and check for a response.

These suggestions are accurate, but I wanted to add a note. I was stuck simply because I had multiple publishing configurations. I was editing the "Debug - Any CPU" and then deploying the "Debug - x64" configuration. Make sure you are editing and deploying the same configuration. Verify this by clicking the "Settings" tab after you begin publishing and the "Publish Web" dialog pops up. Make sure it matches the configuration you edited. (That's 4 hours of my life I will never get back!)

About the recalculation:

You can keep your set of random values from changing every time you make an adjustment, by adjusting the automatic recalculation, to: manual recalculate. (Re)calculations are then only done when you press F9. Or shift F9.

I think there is a much much simpler solution for this problem. I came up with another idea today and it seems to work just fine (at least in 2D for now). All you have to do, is to calculate the intersection between two lines, then check if the calculated intersection point is within the boundig boxes of both line segments. If it is, the line segments intersect. That's it.

I also had this problem, but I made a workaround using a ImageView.

Try using a RelativeLayout and add a ImageView inside it (width and height: fill_parent, scaleType: center).

Also make sure the imageview is the first element inside the RelativeLayout, so it will act as background.

Ls is designed for human consumption, and you should not parse its output.

In shell scripts, there are a few cases where parsing the output of ls does work is the simplest way of achieving the desired effect. Since ls might mangle non-ASCII and control characters in file names, these cases are a subset of those that do not require obtaining a file name from ls.

In python, there is absolutely no reason to invoke ls. Python has all of ls's functionality built-in. Use os.listdir to list the contents of a directory and os.stat or os to obtain file metadata. Other functions in the os modules are likely to be relevant to your problem as well.

If you're accessing remote files over ssh, a reasonably robust way of listing file names is through sftp:

This prints one file name per line, and unlike the ls utility, sftp does not mangle nonprintable characters. You will still not be able to reliably list directories where a file name contains a newline, but that's rarely done (remember this as a potential security issue, not a usability issue).

On some systems (Linux, Mac OS X, perhaps some other unices, but definitely not Windows), a different approach is to mount a remote filesystem through ssh with sshfs, and then work locally.

While it's not hard to do this manually using BufferedReader and InputStreamReader, I'd use Guava:

stringstream.str() returns a temporary string object that's destroyed at the end of the full expression. If you get a pointer to a C string from that (stringstream.str().c_str()), it will point to a string which is deleted where the statement ends. That's why your code prints garbage.

You could copy that temporary string object to some other string object and take the C string from that one:

Note that I made the temporary string const, because any changes to it might cause it to re-allocate and thus render cstr invalid. It is therefor safer to not to store the result of the call to str() at all and use cstr only until the end of the full expression:

Of course, the latter might not be easy and copying might be too expensive. What you can do instead is to bind the temporary to a const reference. This will extend its lifetime to the lifetime of the reference:

I had the same problem, and found the answer. If you use node.js with express, you need to give it its own function in order for the js file to be reached. For example:

I'd argue that the absence of assertNotEqual is indeed an asymmetry and makes JUnit a bit less learnable. Mind that this is a neat case when adding a method would diminish the complexity of the API, at least for me: Symmetry helps ruling the bigger space. My guess is that the reason for the omission may be that there are too few people calling for the method. Yet, I remember a time when even assertFalse did not exist; hence, I have a positive expectation that the method might eventually be added, given that it is not a difficult one; even though I acknowledge that there are numerous workarounds, even elegant ones.

A good hash function should

1. be bijective to not loose information, where possible, and have the least collisions
2. cascade as much and as evenly as possible, i.e. each input bit should flip every output bit with probability 0.5 and without obvious patterns.
3. if used in a cryptographic context there should not exist an efficient way to invert it.

A prime number modulus does not satisfy any of these points. It is simply insufficient. It is often better than nothing, but it's not even fast. Multiplying with an unsigned integer and taking a power-of-two modulus distributes the values just as well, that is not well at all, but with only about 2 cpu cycles it is much faster than the 15 to 40 a prime modulus will take (yes integer division really is that slow).

To create a hash function that is fast and distributes the values well the best option is to compose it from fast permutations with lesser qualities like they did with PCG for random number generation.

Useful permutations, among others, are:

• multiplication with an uneven integer
• binary rotations
• xorshift

Following this recipe we can create our own hash function or we take splitmix which is tested and well accepted.

If cryptographic qualities are needed I would highly recommend to use a function of the sha family, which is well tested and standardised, but for educational purposes this is how you would make one:

First you take a good non-cryptographic hash function, then you apply a one-way function like exponentiation on a prime field or k many applications of (n*(n+1)/2) mod 2^k interspersed with an xorshift when k is the number of bits in the resulting hash.

Based on the follow up question (store the data in a variable) in the comments to the chdir post I'm betting he wants to store the current path to restore it after changeing directories.

The original user should look at "pushd", which changes directory and pushes the current one onto a stack that can be restored with a "popd". On any modern Windows cmd shell that is the way to go when making batch files.

If you really need to grab the current path then modern cmd shells also have a %CD% variable that you can easily stuff away in another variable for reference.

You are encoding to UTF-8, then re-encoding to UTF-8. Python can only do this if it first decodes again to Unicode, but it has to use the default ASCII codec:

Every time you call e.nextElement() you take the next object from the iterator. You have to check e.hasMoreElement() between each call.

As others have pointed out, thread safety means that a piece of code will work without errors if it's used by more than one thread at once.

It's worth being aware that this sometimes comes at a cost, of computer time and more complex coding, so it isn't always desirable. If a class can be safely used on only one thread, it may be better to do so.

For example, Java has two classes that are almost equivalent, StringBuffer and StringBuilder. The difference is that StringBuffer is thread-safe, so a single instance of a StringBuffer may be used by multiple threads at once. StringBuilder is not thread-safe, and is designed as a higher-performance replacement for those cases (the vast majority) when the String is built by only one thread.

DWORD is not a C++ type, it's defined in <windows.h>.

The reason is that DWORD has a specific range and format Windows functions rely on, so if you require that specific range use that type. (Or as they say "When in Rome, do as the Romans do.") For you, that happens to correspond to unsigned int, but that might not always be the case. To be safe, use DWORD when a DWORD is expected, regardless of what it may actually be.

For example, if they ever changed the range or format of unsigned int they could use a different type to underly DWORD to keep the same requirements, and all code using DWORD would be none-the-wiser. (Likewise, they could decide DWORD needs to be unsigned long long, change it, and all code using DWORD would be none-the-wiser.)

Also note unsigned int does not necessary have the range 0 to 4,294,967,295. See here.

So generally this has been solved, but you might get this error message because the date you use is not in the correct format.

If you have dates of this format just check the format of your dates with:

str(sides$date)

If the format is not a character, then convert it:

as.character(sides$date)

For as.Date, you won't need an origin any longer, because this is supplied for numeric values only. Thus you can use (assuming you have the format of NealC):

as.Date(as.character(sides$date),format="%Y%m%d")

I hope this might help some of you.

One more thing that could cause this is having incorrect version of the <parent> project.

In my case it was pointing to a non-existing project and for some reason IntelliJ downgraded version in settings to 1.5 and later when I fixed it, it was still interpreting target code version as 5 (despite setting it to 11).

You should remove web middleware from routes.php. Adding web middleware manually causes session and request related problems in Laravel 5.2.27 and higher.

On *nix, unlike Windows, the current directory is usually not in your $PATH variable. So the current directory is not searched when executing commands. You don't need ./ for running applications because these applications are in your $PATH; most likely they are in /bin or /usr/bin.

For what it's worth I do miss the ^ operator when raising a power of 2 to define a binary constant. Can't use Math.Pow() there, but shifting an unsigned int of 1 to the left by the exponent's value works. When I needed to define a constant of (2^24)-1:

There is a problem with every answer provided that can be summarized as "just add this magical incantation to the beginning of your script. See what you can do with just a line or two of code." They will not work in every possible situation!

For example, one such magical incantation uses __file__. Unfortunately, if you package your script using cx_Freeze or you are using IDLE, this will result in an exception.

Another such magical incantation uses os.getcwd(). This will only work if you are running your script from the command prompt and the directory containing your script is the current working directory (that is you used the cd command to change into the directory prior to running the script). Eh gods! I hope I do not have to explain why this will not work if your Python script is in the PATH somewhere and you ran it by simply typing the name of your script file.

Fortunately, there is a magical incantation that will work in all the cases I have tested. Unfortunately, the magical incantation is more than just a line or two of code.

I have encountered this problem as well. I've read this thread and most of the answers are informative but overly complex to me. I'm not experienced in networking topics so this answer is for people like me.

In my case, this error was happening because I didn't include the intermediate and root certificates next to the certificate I was using in my application.

Here's what I got from the SSL certificate supplier:

- abc.crt
- abc.pem
- abc-bunde.crt

In the abc.crt file, there was only one certificate:
