How to check if a String contains any letter from a to z?

What about:

//true if it doesn't contain letters
bool result = hello.Any(x => !char.IsLetter(x));

How to bind to a PasswordBox in MVVM

For anyone who is aware of the risks this implementation imposes, to have the password sync to your ViewModel simply add Mode=OneWayToSource.

XAML

<PasswordBox
    ff:PasswordHelper.Attach="True"
    ff:PasswordHelper.Password="{Binding Path=Password, Mode=OneWayToSource}" />

How can I make a TextBox be a "password box" and display stars when using MVVM?

The problem with using the PasswordBox is that it is not very MVVM friendly due to the fact that it works with SecureString and therefore requires a shim to bind it to a String. You also cannot use the clipboard. While all these things are there for a reason, you may not require that level of security. Here is an alternative approach that works with the clipboard, nothing fancy. You make the TextBox text and background transparent and bind the text to a TextBlock underneath it. This textblock converts characters to * using the converter specified.

<Window.Resources>
    <local:TextToPasswordCharConverter x:Key="TextToPasswordCharConverter" />
</Window.Resources>

<Grid Width="200">
    <TextBlock Margin="5,0,0,0" Text="{Binding Text, Converter={StaticResource TextToPasswordCharConverter}, UpdateSourceTrigger=PropertyChanged, Mode=OneWay}" FontFamily="Consolas" VerticalAlignment="Center" />
    <TextBox Foreground="Transparent" Text="{Binding Text, UpdateSourceTrigger=PropertyChanged}" FontFamily="Consolas" Background="Transparent" />
</Grid>

And here is the Value Converter:

class TextToPasswordCharConverter : IValueConverter
{
    public object Convert(object value, Type targetType, object parameter, CultureInfo culture)
    {
        return new String('*', value?.ToString().Length ?? 0);
    }

    public object ConvertBack(object value, Type targetType, object parameter, CultureInfo culture)
    {
        throw new NotImplementedException();
    }
}

Make sure your Text property on your viewmodel implements INotifyPropertyChanged

jQuery UI dialog box not positioned center screen

Just solved the same problem, the issue was that i did not imported some js files, like widget.js :)

How to give a user only select permission on a database

You could add the user to the Database Level Role db_datareader.

Members of the db_datareader fixed database role can run a SELECT statement against any table or view in the database.

See Books Online for reference:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms189121%28SQL.90%29.aspx

You can add a database user to a database role using the following query:

EXEC sp_addrolemember N'db_datareader', N'userName'

How can I plot data with confidence intervals?

Here is a plotrix solution:

set.seed(0815)
x <- 1:10
F <- runif(10,1,2)
L <- runif(10,0,1)
U <- runif(10,2,3)

require(plotrix)
plotCI(x, F, ui=U, li=L)

enter image description here

And here is a ggplot solution:

set.seed(0815)
df <- data.frame(x =1:10,
                 F =runif(10,1,2),
                 L =runif(10,0,1),
                 U =runif(10,2,3))

require(ggplot2)
ggplot(df, aes(x = x, y = F)) +
  geom_point(size = 4) +
  geom_errorbar(aes(ymax = U, ymin = L))

enter image description here

UPDATE: Here is a base solution to your edits:

set.seed(1234)
x <- rnorm(20)
df <- data.frame(x = x,
                 y = x + rnorm(20))

plot(y ~ x, data = df)

# model
mod <- lm(y ~ x, data = df)

# predicts + interval
newx <- seq(min(df$x), max(df$x), length.out=100)
preds <- predict(mod, newdata = data.frame(x=newx),
                 interval = 'confidence')

# plot
plot(y ~ x, data = df, type = 'n')
# add fill
polygon(c(rev(newx), newx), c(rev(preds[ ,3]), preds[ ,2]), col = 'grey80', border = NA)
# model
abline(mod)
# intervals
lines(newx, preds[ ,3], lty = 'dashed', col = 'red')
lines(newx, preds[ ,2], lty = 'dashed', col = 'red')

How to convert R Markdown to PDF?

Only two steps:

  1. Install the latest release "pandoc" from here:

    https://github.com/jgm/pandoc/releases

  2. Call the function pandoc in the library(knitr)

    library(knitr)
    pandoc('input.md', format = 'latex')

Thus, you can convert your "input.md" into "input.pdf".

How do I set a JLabel's background color?

The JLabel background is transparent by default. Set the opacity at true like that:

label.setOpaque(true);

Correct way to synchronize ArrayList in java

You're synchronizing twice, which is pointless and possibly slows down the code: changes while iterating over the list need a synchronnization over the entire operation, which you are doing with synchronized (in_queue_list) Using Collections.synchronizedList() is superfluous in that case (it creates a wrapper that synchronizes individual operations).

However, since you are emptying the list completely, the iterated removal of the first element is the worst possible way to do it, sice for each element all following elements have to be copied, making this an O(n^2) operation - horribly slow for larger lists.

Instead, simply call clear() - no iteration needed.

Edit: If you need the single-method synchronization of Collections.synchronizedList() later on, then this is the correct way:

List<Record> in_queue_list = Collections.synchronizedList(in_queue);
in_queue_list.clear(); // synchronized implicitly,

But in many cases, the single-method synchronization is insufficient (e.g. for all iteration, or when you get a value, do computations based on it, and replace it with the result). In that case, you have to use manual synchronization anyway, so Collections.synchronizedList() is just useless additional overhead.

Creating a singleton in Python

This answer is likely not what you're looking for. I wanted a singleton in the sense that only that object had its identity, for comparison to. In my case it was being used as a Sentinel Value. To which the answer is very simple, make any object mything = object() and by python's nature, only that thing will have its identity.

#!python
MyNone = object() # The singleton

for item in my_list:
    if item is MyNone: # An Example identity comparison
        raise StopIteration

xsl: how to split strings?

I. Plain XSLT 1.0 solution:

This transformation:

<xsl:stylesheet version="1.0"
 xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform">
 <xsl:output omit-xml-declaration="yes" indent="yes"/>

 <xsl:template match="text()" name="split">
  <xsl:param name="pText" select="."/>
  <xsl:if test="string-length($pText)">
   <xsl:if test="not($pText=.)">
    <br />
   </xsl:if>
   <xsl:value-of select=
    "substring-before(concat($pText,';'),';')"/>
   <xsl:call-template name="split">
    <xsl:with-param name="pText" select=
     "substring-after($pText, ';')"/>
   </xsl:call-template>
  </xsl:if>
 </xsl:template>
</xsl:stylesheet>

when applied on this XML document:

<t>123 Elm Street;PO Box 222;c/o James Jones</t>

produces the wanted, corrected result:

123 Elm Street<br />PO Box 222<br />c/o James Jones

II. FXSL 1 (for XSLT 1.0):

Here we just use the FXSL template str-map (and do not have to write recursive template for the 999th time):

<xsl:stylesheet version="1.0"
xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform"
xmlns:f="http://fxsl.sf.net/"
xmlns:testmap="testmap"
exclude-result-prefixes="xsl f testmap"
>
   <xsl:import href="str-dvc-map.xsl"/>

   <testmap:testmap/>

   <xsl:output omit-xml-declaration="yes" indent="yes"/>

   <xsl:template match="/">
     <xsl:variable name="vTestMap" select="document('')/*/testmap:*[1]"/>
     <xsl:call-template name="str-map">
       <xsl:with-param name="pFun" select="$vTestMap"/>
       <xsl:with-param name="pStr" select=
       "'123 Elm Street;PO Box 222;c/o James Jones'"/>
     </xsl:call-template>
   </xsl:template>

    <xsl:template name="replace" mode="f:FXSL"
         match="*[namespace-uri() = 'testmap']">
      <xsl:param name="arg1"/>

      <xsl:choose>
       <xsl:when test="not($arg1=';')">
        <xsl:value-of select="$arg1"/>
       </xsl:when>
       <xsl:otherwise><br /></xsl:otherwise>
      </xsl:choose>
    </xsl:template>
</xsl:stylesheet>

when this transformation is applied on any XML document (not used), the same, wanted correct result is produced:

123 Elm Street<br/>PO Box 222<br/>c/o James Jones

III. Using XSLT 2.0

<xsl:stylesheet version="2.0"
 xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform">
 <xsl:output omit-xml-declaration="yes" indent="yes"/>

 <xsl:template match="text()">
  <xsl:for-each select="tokenize(.,';')">
   <xsl:sequence select="."/>
   <xsl:if test="not(position() eq last())"><br /></xsl:if>
  </xsl:for-each>
 </xsl:template>
</xsl:stylesheet>

when this transformation is applied on this XML document:

<t>123 Elm Street;PO Box 222;c/o James Jones</t>

the wanted, correct result is produced:

123 Elm Street<br />PO Box 222<br />c/o James Jones

Fill SVG path element with a background-image

You can do it by making the background into a pattern:

<defs>
  <pattern id="img1" patternUnits="userSpaceOnUse" width="100" height="100">
    <image href="wall.jpg" x="0" y="0" width="100" height="100" />
  </pattern>
</defs>

Adjust the width and height according to your image, then reference it from the path like this:

<path d="M5,50
         l0,100 l100,0 l0,-100 l-100,0
         M215,100
         a50,50 0 1 1 -100,0 50,50 0 1 1 100,0
         M265,50
         l50,100 l-100,0 l50,-100
         z"
  fill="url(#img1)" />

CentOS: Enabling GD Support in PHP Installation

  1. You need to find a repo that offers a GD lib matching your current php version. I've had great success using Remi Collet's repo for this purpose. In fact, I used it yesterday to update my php install to the latest 5.4.0RC6 version on my CentOS6 box.
  2. Once you've setup the repo it's a simple matter of running sudo yum install php-gd
  3. Of course, the usual things apply: make sure you restart apache after installing, etc.

What exactly is Python's file.flush() doing?

Because the operating system may not do so. The flush operation forces the file data into the file cache in RAM, and from there it's the OS's job to actually send it to the disk.

Default argument values in JavaScript functions

ES2015 onwards:

From ES6/ES2015, we have default parameters in the language specification. So we can just do something simple like,

function A(a, b = 4, c = 5) {
}

or combined with ES2015 destructuring,

function B({c} = {c: 2}, [d, e] = [3, 4]) {
}

For detailed explanation,

https://developer.mozilla.org/en/docs/Web/JavaScript/Reference/Functions/default_parameters

Default function parameters allow formal parameters to be initialized with default values if no value or undefined is passed.

Pre ES2015:

If you're going to handle values which are NOT Numbers, Strings, Boolean, NaN, or null you can simply use

(So, for Objects, Arrays and Functions that you plan never to send null, you can use)

param || DEFAULT_VALUE

for example,

function X(a) {
  a = a || function() {};
}

Though this looks simple and kinda works, this is restrictive and can be an anti-pattern because || operates on all falsy values ("", null, NaN, false, 0) too - which makes this method impossible to assign a param the falsy value passed as the argument.

So, in order to handle only undefined values explicitly, the preferred approach would be,

function C(a, b) {
  a = typeof a === 'undefined' ? DEFAULT_VALUE_A : a;
  b = typeof b === 'undefined' ? DEFAULT_VALUE_B : b;
}

Dynamically load a function from a DLL

In addition to the already posted answer, I thought I should share a handy trick I use to load all the DLL functions into the program through function pointers, without writing a separate GetProcAddress call for each and every function. I also like to call the functions directly as attempted in the OP.

Start by defining a generic function pointer type:

typedef int (__stdcall* func_ptr_t)();

What types that are used aren't really important. Now create an array of that type, which corresponds to the amount of functions you have in the DLL:

func_ptr_t func_ptr [DLL_FUNCTIONS_N];

In this array we can store the actual function pointers that point into the DLL memory space.

Next problem is that GetProcAddress expects the function names as strings. So create a similar array consisting of the function names in the DLL:

const char* DLL_FUNCTION_NAMES [DLL_FUNCTIONS_N] =
{
  "dll_add",
  "dll_subtract",
  "dll_do_stuff",
  ...
};

Now we can easily call GetProcAddress() in a loop and store each function inside that array:

for(int i=0; i<DLL_FUNCTIONS_N; i++)
{
  func_ptr[i] = GetProcAddress(hinst_mydll, DLL_FUNCTION_NAMES[i]);

  if(func_ptr[i] == NULL)
  {
    // error handling, most likely you have to terminate the program here
  }
}

If the loop was successful, the only problem we have now is calling the functions. The function pointer typedef from earlier isn't helpful, because each function will have its own signature. This can be solved by creating a struct with all the function types:

typedef struct
{
  int  (__stdcall* dll_add_ptr)(int, int);
  int  (__stdcall* dll_subtract_ptr)(int, int);
  void (__stdcall* dll_do_stuff_ptr)(something);
  ...
} functions_struct;

And finally, to connect these to the array from before, create a union:

typedef union
{
  functions_struct  by_type;
  func_ptr_t        func_ptr [DLL_FUNCTIONS_N];
} functions_union;

Now you can load all the functions from the DLL with the convenient loop, but call them through the by_type union member.

But of course, it is a bit burdensome to type out something like

functions.by_type.dll_add_ptr(1, 1); whenever you want to call a function.

As it turns out, this is the reason why I added the "ptr" postfix to the names: I wanted to keep them different from the actual function names. We can now smooth out the icky struct syntax and get the desired names, by using some macros:

#define dll_add (functions.by_type.dll_add_ptr)
#define dll_subtract (functions.by_type.dll_subtract_ptr)
#define dll_do_stuff (functions.by_type.dll_do_stuff_ptr)

And voilà, you can now use the function names, with the correct type and parameters, as if they were statically linked to your project:

int result = dll_add(1, 1);

Disclaimer: Strictly speaking, conversions between different function pointers are not defined by the C standard and not safe. So formally, what I'm doing here is undefined behavior. However, in the Windows world, function pointers are always of the same size no matter their type and the conversions between them are predictable on any version of Windows I've used.

Also, there might in theory be padding inserted in the union/struct, which would cause everything to fail. However, pointers happen to be of the same size as the alignment requirement in Windows. A static_assert to ensure that the struct/union has no padding might be in order still.

Why do we have to normalize the input for an artificial neural network?

When you use unnormalized input features, the loss function is likely to have very elongated valleys. When optimizing with gradient descent, this becomes an issue because the gradient will be steep with respect some of the parameters. That leads to large oscillations in the search space, as you are bouncing between steep slopes. To compensate, you have to stabilize optimization with small learning rates.

Consider features x1 and x2, where range from 0 to 1 and 0 to 1 million, respectively. It turns out the ratios for the corresponding parameters (say, w1 and w2) will also be large.

Normalizing tends to make the loss function more symmetrical/spherical. These are easier to optimize because the gradients tend to point towards the global minimum and you can take larger steps.

Where are environment variables stored in the Windows Registry?

There is a more efficient way of doing this in Windows 7. SETX is installed by default and supports connecting to other systems.

To modify a remote system's global environment variables, you would use

setx /m /s HOSTNAME-GOES-HERE VariableNameGoesHere VariableValueGoesHere

This does not require restarting Windows Explorer.

How to find out which processes are using swap space in Linux?

Run top then press OpEnter. Now processes should be sorted by their swap usage.

Here is an update as my original answer does not provide an exact answer to the problem as pointed out in the comments. From the htop FAQ:

It is not possible to get the exact size of used swap space of a process. Top fakes this information by making SWAP = VIRT - RES, but that is not a good metric, because other stuff such as video memory counts on VIRT as well (for example: top says my X process is using 81M of swap, but it also reports my system as a whole is using only 2M of swap. Therefore, I will not add a similar Swap column to htop because I don't know a reliable way to get this information (actually, I don't think it's possible to get an exact number, because of shared pages).

What's the difference between an Angular component and module

Well, it's too late to post an answer, but I feel my explanation will be easy to understand for beginners with Angular. The following is one of the examples that I give during my presentation.

Consider your angular Application as a building. A building can have N number of apartments in it. An apartment is considered as a module. An Apartment can then have N number of rooms which correspond to the building blocks of an Angular application named components.

Now each apartment (Module)` will have rooms (Components), lifts (Services) to enable larger movement in and out the apartments, wires (Pipes) to transform around and make it useful in the apartments.

You will also have places like swimming pool, tennis court which are being shared by all building residents. So these can be considered as components inside SharedModule.

Basically, the difference is as follows,

SQL Bulk Insert with FIRSTROW parameter skips the following line

Maybe check that the header has the same line-ending as the actual data rows (as specified in ROWTERMINATOR)?

Update: from MSDN:

The FIRSTROW attribute is not intended to skip column headers. Skipping headers is not supported by the BULK INSERT statement. When skipping rows, the SQL Server Database Engine looks only at the field terminators, and does not validate the data in the fields of skipped rows.

C++ Array of pointers: delete or delete []?

delete[] monsters;

Is incorrect because monsters isn't a pointer to a dynamically allocated array, it is an array of pointers. As a class member it will be destroyed automatically when the class instance is destroyed.

Your other implementation is the correct one as the pointers in the array do point to dynamically allocated Monster objects.

Note that with your current memory allocation strategy you probably want to declare your own copy constructor and copy-assignment operator so that unintentional copying doesn't cause double deletes. (If you you want to prevent copying you could declare them as private and not actually implement them.)

How to set the background image of a html 5 canvas to .png image

You can draw the image on the canvas and let the user draw on top of that.

The drawImage() function will help you with that, see https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/Guide/HTML/Canvas_tutorial/Using_images

Set bootstrap modal body height by percentage

This should work for everyone, any screen resolutions:

.modal-body {
    max-height: calc(100vh - 143px);
    overflow-y: auto; }

First, count your modal header and footer height, in my case I have H4 heading so I have them on 141px, already counted default modal margin in 20px(top+bottom).

So that subtract 141px is the max-height for my modal height, for the better result there are both border top and bottom by 1px, for this, 143px will work perfectly.

In some case of styling you may like to use overflow-y: auto; instead of overflow-y: scroll;, try it.

Try it, and you get the best result in both computer or mobile devices. If you have a heading larger than H4, recount it see how much px you would like to subtract.

If you don't know what I am telling, just change the number of 143px, see what is the best result for your case.

Last, I'd suggest have it an inline CSS.

Vue.js redirection to another page

According to the docs, router.push seems like the preferred method:

To navigate to a different URL, use router.push. This method pushes a new entry into the history stack, so when the user clicks the browser back button they will be taken to the previous URL.

source: https://router.vuejs.org/en/essentials/navigation.html

FYI : Webpack & component setup, single page app (where you import the router through Main.js), I had to call the router functions by saying:

this.$router

Example: if you wanted to redirect to a route called "Home" after a condition is met:

this.$router.push('Home')

How to get subarray from array?

For a simple use of slice, use my extension to Array Class:

Array.prototype.subarray = function(start, end) {
    if (!end) { end = -1; }
    return this.slice(start, this.length + 1 - (end * -1));
};

Then:

var bigArr = ["a", "b", "c", "fd", "ze"];

Test1:

bigArr.subarray(1, -1);

< ["b", "c", "fd", "ze"]

Test2:

bigArr.subarray(2, -2);

< ["c", "fd"]

Test3:

bigArr.subarray(2);

< ["c", "fd","ze"]

Might be easier for developers coming from another language (i.e. Groovy).

Is there a float input type in HTML5?

Using React on my IPad, type="number" does not work perfectly for me. For my floating point numbers in the range between 99.99999 - .00000 I use the regular expression (^[0-9]{0,2}$)|(^[0-9]{0,2}\.[0-9]{0,5}$). The first group (...) is true for all positive two digit numbers without the floating point (e.g. 23), | or e.g. .12345 for the second group (...). You can adopt it for any positive floating point number by simply changing the range {0,2} or {0,5} respectively.

<input
  className="center-align"
  type="text"
  pattern="(^[0-9]{0,2}$)|(^[0-9]{0,2}\.[0-9]{0,5}$)"
  step="any"
  maxlength="7"
  validate="true"
/>

How do I rename a column in a database table using SQL?

In MySQL, the syntax is ALTER TABLE ... CHANGE:

ALTER TABLE <table_name> CHANGE <column_name> <new_column_name> <data_type> ...

Note that you can't just rename and leave the type and constraints as is; you must retype the data type and constraints after the new name of the column.

How to check if that data already exist in the database during update (Mongoose And Express)

In addition to already posted examples, here is another approach using express-async-wrap and asynchronous functions (ES2017).

Dynamically Add Variable Name Value Pairs to JSON Object

if my understanding of your initial JSON is correct, either of these solutions might help you loop through all ip ids & assign each one, a new object.

// initial JSON
var ips = {ipId1: {}, ipId2: {}};

// Solution1
Object.keys(ips).forEach(function(key) {
  ips[key] = {name: 'value', anotherName: 'another value'};
});

// Solution 2
Object.keys(ips).forEach(function(key) {
  Object.assign(ips[key],{name: 'value', anotherName: 'another value'});
});

To confirm:

console.log(JSON.stringify(ips, null, 2));

The above statement spits:

{
  "ipId1": {
    "name":"value",
    "anotherName":"another value"
  },
  "ipId2": {
    "name":"value",
    "anotherName":"another value"
  }
}

Count textarea characters

?? The accepted solution is outdated.

Here are two scenarios where the keyup event will not get fired:

  1. The user drags text into the textarea.
  2. The user copy-paste text in the textarea with a right click (contextual menu).

Use the HTML5 input event instead for a more robust solution:

<textarea maxlength='140'></textarea>

JavaScript (demo):

const textarea = document.querySelector("textarea");

textarea.addEventListener("input", event => {
    const target = event.currentTarget;
    const maxLength = target.getAttribute("maxlength");
    const currentLength = target.value.length;

    if (currentLength >= maxLength) {
        return console.log("You have reached the maximum number of characters.");
    }

    console.log(`${maxLength - currentLength} chars left`);
});

And if you absolutely want to use jQuery:

$('textarea').on("input", function(){
    var maxlength = $(this).attr("maxlength");
    var currentLength = $(this).val().length;

    if( currentLength >= maxlength ){
        console.log("You have reached the maximum number of characters.");
    }else{
        console.log(maxlength - currentLength + " chars left");
    }
});

How do I pass variables and data from PHP to JavaScript?

I have come out with an easy method to assign JavaScript variables using PHP.

It uses HTML5 data attributes to store PHP variables and then it's assigned to JavaScript on page load.

A complete tutorial can be found here.

Example:

<?php
    $variable_1 = "QNimate";
    $variable_2 = "QScutter";
?>
    <span id="storage" data-variable-one="<?php echo $variable_1; ?>" data-variable-two="<?php echo $variable_2; ?>"></span>
<?php

Here is the JavaScript code

var variable_1 = undefined;
var variable_2 = undefined;

window.onload = function(){
    variable_1 = document.getElementById("storage").getAttribute("data-variable-one");
    variable_2 = document.getElementById("storage").getAttribute("data-variable-two");
}

How to convert an object to a byte array in C#

This worked for me:

byte[] bfoo = (byte[])foo;

Git commit with no commit message

--allow-empty-message -m '' (and -m "") fail in Git 2.29.2 on PowerShell:

error: switch `m' requires a value

(oddly enough, with a backtick on one side and a single quote on the other)

The following works consistently in Linux, PowerShell, and Command Prompt:

git commit --allow-empty-message --no-edit

The --no-edit bit does the trick, as it prevents the editor from launching.

I find this form more explicit and a bit less hacky than forcing an empty message with -m ''.

CSS: 100% width or height while keeping aspect ratio?

Simple solution:

min-height: 100%;
min-width: 100%;
width: auto;
height: auto;
margin: 0;
padding: 0;

By the way, if you want to center it in a parent div container, you can add those css properties:

position: absolute;
top: 50%;
left: 50%;
transform: translate(-50%, -50%);

It should really work as expected :)

Getting a Request.Headers value

In dotnet core, Request.Headers["X-MyCustomHeader"] returns StringValues which will not be null. You can check the count though to make sure it found your header as follows:

var myHeaderValue = Request.Headers["X-MyCustomHeader"];
if(myHeaderValue.Count == 0) return Unauthorized();
string myHeader = myHeaderValue.ToString(); //For illustration purposes.

R: Break for loop

your break statement should break out of the for (in in 1:n).

Personally I am always wary with break statements and double check it by printing to the console to double check that I am in fact breaking out of the right loop. So before you test add the following statement, which will let you know if you break before it reaches the end. However, I have no idea how you are handling the variable n so I don't know if it would be helpful to you. Make a n some test value where you know before hand if it is supposed to break out or not before reaching n.

for (in in 1:n)
{
    if (in == n)         #add this statement
    {
        "sorry but the loop did not break"
    }

    id_novo <- new_table_df$ID[in]
    if(id_velho==id_novo)
    {
        break
    }
    else if(in == n)
    {
        sold_df <- rbind(sold_df,old_table_df[out,])
    }
}

How to save an activity state using save instance state?

To get activity state data stored in onCreate(), first you have to save data in savedInstanceState by overriding SaveInstanceState(Bundle savedInstanceState) method.

When activity destroy SaveInstanceState(Bundle savedInstanceState) method gets called and there you save data you want to save. And you get same in onCreate() when activity restart.(savedInstanceState wont be null since you have saved some data in it before activity get destroyed)

What is the difference between PUT, POST and PATCH?

Difference between PUT, POST, GET, DELETE and PATCH IN HTTP Verbs:

The most commonly used HTTP verbs POST, GET, PUT, DELETE are similar to CRUD (Create, Read, Update and Delete) operations in database. We specify these HTTP verbs in the capital case. So, the below is the comparison between them.

  1. create - POST
  2. read - GET
  3. update - PUT
  4. delete - DELETE

PATCH: Submits a partial modification to a resource. If you only need to update one field for the resource, you may want to use the PATCH method.

Note:
Since POST, PUT, DELETE modifies the content, the tests with Fiddler for the below url just mimicks the updations. It doesn't delete or modify actually. We can just see the status codes to check whether insertions, updations, deletions occur.

URL: http://jsonplaceholder.typicode.com/posts/

1) GET:

GET is the simplest type of HTTP request method; the one that browsers use each time you click a link or type a URL into the address bar. It instructs the server to transmit the data identified by the URL to the client. Data should never be modified on the server side as a result of a GET request. In this sense, a GET request is read-only.

Checking with Fiddler or PostMan: We can use Fiddler for checking the response. Open Fiddler and select the Compose tab. Specify the verb and url as shown below and click Execute to check the response.

Verb: GET

url: http://jsonplaceholder.typicode.com/posts/

Response: You will get the response as:

"userId": 1, "id": 1, "title": "sunt aut...", "body": "quia et suscipit..."

In the “happy” (or non-error) path, GET returns a representation in XML or JSON and an HTTP response code of 200 (OK). In an error case, it most often returns a 404 (NOT FOUND) or 400 (BAD REQUEST).

2) POST:

The POST verb is mostly utilized to create new resources. In particular, it's used to create subordinate resources. That is, subordinate to some other (e.g. parent) resource.

On successful creation, return HTTP status 201, returning a Location header with a link to the newly-created resource with the 201 HTTP status.

Checking with Fiddler or PostMan: We can use Fiddler for checking the response. Open Fiddler and select the Compose tab. Specify the verb and url as shown below and click Execute to check the response.

Verb: POST

url: http://jsonplaceholder.typicode.com/posts/

Request Body:

data: { title: 'foo', body: 'bar', userId: 1000, Id : 1000 }

Response: You would receive the response code as 201.

If we want to check the inserted record with Id = 1000 change the verb to Get and use the same url and click Execute.

As said earlier, the above url only allows reads (GET), we cannot read the updated data in real.

3) PUT:

PUT is most-often utilized for update capabilities, PUT-ing to a known resource URI with the request body containing the newly-updated representation of the original resource.

Checking with Fiddler or PostMan: We can use Fiddler for checking the response. Open Fiddler and select the Compose tab. Specify the verb and url as shown below and click Execute to check the response.

Verb: PUT

url: http://jsonplaceholder.typicode.com/posts/1

Request Body:

data: { title: 'foo', body: 'bar', userId: 1, Id : 1 }

Response: On successful update it returns 200 (or 204 if not returning any content in the body) from a PUT.

4) DELETE:

DELETE is pretty easy to understand. It is used to delete a resource identified by a URI.

On successful deletion, return HTTP status 200 (OK) along with a response body, perhaps the representation of the deleted item (often demands too much bandwidth), or a wrapped response (see Return Values below). Either that or return HTTP status 204 (NO CONTENT) with no response body. In other words, a 204 status with no body, or the JSEND-style response and HTTP status 200 are the recommended responses.

Checking with Fiddler or PostMan: We can use Fiddler for checking the response. Open Fiddler and select the Compose tab. Specify the verb and url as shown below and click Execute to check the response.

Verb: DELETE

url: http://jsonplaceholder.typicode.com/posts/1

Response: On successful deletion it returns HTTP status 200 (OK) along with a response body.

Example between PUT and PATCH

PUT

If I had to change my firstname then send PUT request for Update:

{ "first": "Nazmul", "last": "hasan" } So, here in order to update the first name we need to send all the parameters of the data again.

PATCH:

Patch request says that we would only send the data that we need to modify without modifying or effecting other parts of the data. Ex: if we need to update only the first name, we pass only the first name.

Please refer the below links for more information:

https://jsonplaceholder.typicode.com/

Winforms issue - Error creating window handle

The out of memory suggestion doesn't seem like a bad lead.

What is your program doing that it gets this error?

Is it creating a great many windows or controls? Does it create them programatically as opposed to at design time? If so, do you do this in a loop? Is that loop infinite? Are you consuming staggering boatloads of memory in some other way?

What happens when you watch the memory used by your application in task manager? Does it skyrocket to the moon? Or better yet, as suggested above use process monitor to dive into the details.

Compiling an application for use in highly radioactive environments

How about running many instances of your application. If crashes are due to random memory bit changes, chances are some of your app instances will make it through and produce accurate results. It's probably quite easy (for someone with statistical background) to calculate how many instances do you need given bit flop probability to achieve as tiny overall error as you wish.

Difference between res.send and res.json in Express.js

Looking in the headers sent...
res.send uses content-type:text/html
res.json uses content-type:application/json

edit: send actually changes what is sent based on what it's given, so strings are sent as text/html, but it you pass it an object it emits application/json.

Append an array to another array in JavaScript

array1.push.apply(array1, array2);
array1.push.apply(array1, array3);

I used .apply to push the individual members of arrays 2 and 3 at once.

or...

array1.push.apply(array1, array2.concat(array3));

To deal with large arrays, you can do this in batches.

for (var n = 0, to_add = array2.concat(array3); n < to_add.length; n+=300) {
    array1.push.apply(array1, to_add.slice(n, n+300));
}

If you do this a lot, create a method or function to handle it.

var push_apply = Function.apply.bind([].push);
var slice_call = Function.call.bind([].slice);

Object.defineProperty(Array.prototype, "pushArrayMembers", {
    value: function() {
        for (var i = 0; i < arguments.length; i++) {
            var to_add = arguments[i];
            for (var n = 0; n < to_add.length; n+=300) {
                push_apply(this, slice_call(to_add, n, n+300));
            }
        }
    }
});

and use it like this:

array1.pushArrayMembers(array2, array3);

How to center cell contents of a LaTeX table whose columns have fixed widths?

\usepackage{array} in the preamble

then this:

\begin{tabular}{| >{\centering\arraybackslash}m{1in} | >{\centering\arraybackslash}m{1in} |}

note that the "m" for fixed with column is provided by the array package, and will give you vertical centering (if you don't want this just go back to "p"

Pass props in Link react-router

Route:

<Route state={this.state} exact path="/customers/:id" render={(props) => <PageCustomer {...props} state={this.state} />} />

And then can access params in your PageCustomer component like this: this.props.match.params.id.

For example an api call in PageCustomer component:

axios({
   method: 'get',
   url: '/api/customers/' + this.props.match.params.id,
   data: {},
   headers: {'X-Requested-With': 'XMLHttpRequest'}
 })

Amazon Interview Question: Design an OO parking lot

Models don't exist in isolation. The structures you'd define for a simulation of cars entering a car park, an embedded system which guides you to a free space, a car parking billing system or for the automated gates/ticket machines usual in car parks are all different.

Configure Flask dev server to be visible across the network

If you use the flask executable to start your server, you can use flask run --host=0.0.0.0 to change the default from 127.0.0.1 and open it up to non local connections. The config and app.run methods that the other answers describe are probably better practice but this can be handy as well.

Externally Visible Server If you run the server you will notice that the server is only accessible from your own computer, not from any other in the network. This is the default because in debugging mode a user of the application can execute arbitrary Python code on your computer.

If you have the debugger disabled or trust the users on your network, you can make the server publicly available simply by adding --host=0.0.0.0 to the command line:

flask run --host=0.0.0.0 This tells your operating system to listen on all public IPs.

How to get the android Path string to a file on Assets folder?

Have a look at the ReadAsset.java from API samples that come with the SDK.

       try {
        InputStream is = getAssets().open("read_asset.txt");

        // We guarantee that the available method returns the total
        // size of the asset... of course, this does mean that a single
        // asset can't be more than 2 gigs.
        int size = is.available();

        // Read the entire asset into a local byte buffer.
        byte[] buffer = new byte[size];
        is.read(buffer);
        is.close();

        // Convert the buffer into a string.
        String text = new String(buffer);

        // Finally stick the string into the text view.
        TextView tv = (TextView)findViewById(R.id.text);

Animate the transition between fragments

If you can afford to tie yourself to just Lollipop and later, this seems to do the trick:

import android.transition.Slide;
import android.util.Log;
import android.view.Gravity;
.
.
.
f = new MyFragment();
f.setEnterTransition(new Slide(Gravity.END));
f.setExitTransition(new Slide(Gravity.START));
getFragmentManager()
    .beginTransaction()
    .replace(R.id.content, f, FRAG_TAG)  // FRAG_TAG is the tag for your fragment
    .commit();

Kotlin version:

f = MyFragment().apply {
    enterTransition = Slide(Gravity.END)
    exitTransition = Slide(Gravity.START)
}
fragmentManager
    .beginTransaction()
    .replace(R.id.content, f, FRAG_TAG)  // FRAG_TAG is the tag for your fragment
    .commit();

Hope this helps.

Update with two tables?

I was scratching my head, not being able to get John Sansom's Join syntax work, at least in MySQL 5.5.30 InnoDB.

It turns out that this doesn't work.

WHERE A.x <> B.x

But this works:

SET A.x = 1
WHERE A.x <> B.x

Which MIME type to use for a binary file that's specific to my program?

mimetype headers are recognised by the browser for the purpose of a (fast) possible identifying a handler to use the downloaded file as target, for example, PDF would be downloaded and your Adobe Reader program would be executed with the path of the PDF file as an argument,

If your needs are to write a browser extension to handle your downloaded file, through your operation-system, or you simply want to make you project a more 'professional looking' go ahead and select a unique mimetype for you to use, it would make no difference since the operation-system would have no handle to open it with (some browsers has few bundled-plugins, for example new Google Chrome versions has a built-in PDF-reader),

if you want to make sure the file would be downloaded have a look at this answer: https://stackoverflow.com/a/34758866/257319

if you want to make your file type especially organised, it might be worth adding a few letters in the first few bytes of the file, for example, every JPG has this at it's file start:

if you can afford a jump of 4 or 8 bytes it could be very helpful for you in the rest of the way

How to initialize a List<T> to a given size (as opposed to capacity)?

A notice about IList: MSDN IList Remarks: "IList implementations fall into three categories: read-only, fixed-size, and variable-size. (...). For the generic version of this interface, see System.Collections.Generic.IList<T>."

IList<T> does NOT inherits from IList (but List<T> does implement both IList<T> and IList), but is always variable-size. Since .NET 4.5, we have also IReadOnlyList<T> but AFAIK, there is no fixed-size generic List which would be what you are looking for.

2D array values C++

Like this:

int main()
{
    int arr[2][5] =
    {
        {1,8,12,20,25},
        {5,9,13,24,26}
    };
}

This should be covered by your C++ textbook: which one are you using?

Anyway, better, consider using std::vector or some ready-made matrix class e.g. from Boost.

Using setDate in PreparedStatement

tl;dr

With JDBC 4.2 or later and java 8 or later:

myPreparedStatement.setObject( … , myLocalDate  )

…and…

myResultSet.getObject( … , LocalDate.class )

Details

The Answer by Vargas is good about mentioning java.time types but refers only to converting to java.sql.Date. No need to convert if your driver is updated.

java.time

The java.time framework is built into Java 8 and later. These classes supplant the old troublesome date-time classes such as java.util.Date, .Calendar, & java.text.SimpleDateFormat. The Joda-Time team also advises migration to java.time.

To learn more, see the Oracle Tutorial. And search Stack Overflow for many examples and explanations.

Much of the java.time functionality is back-ported to Java 6 & 7 in ThreeTen-Backport and further adapted to Android in ThreeTenABP.

LocalDate

In java.time, the java.time.LocalDate class represents a date-only value without time-of-day and without time zone.

If using a JDBC driver compliant with JDBC 4.2 or later spec, no need to use the old java.sql.Date class. You can pass/fetch LocalDate objects directly to/from your database via PreparedStatement::setObject and ResultSet::getObject.

LocalDate localDate = LocalDate.now( ZoneId.of( "America/Montreal" ) );
myPreparedStatement.setObject( 1 , localDate  );

…and…

LocalDate localDate = myResultSet.getObject( 1 , LocalDate.class );

Before JDBC 4.2, convert

If your driver cannot handle the java.time types directly, fall back to converting to java.sql types. But minimize their use, with your business logic using only java.time types.

New methods have been added to the old classes for conversion to/from java.time types. For java.sql.Date see the valueOf and toLocalDate methods.

java.sql.Date sqlDate = java.sql.Date.valueOf( localDate );

…and…

LocalDate localDate = sqlDate.toLocalDate();

Placeholder value

Be wary of using 0000-00-00 as a placeholder value as shown in your Question’s code. Not all databases and other software can handle going back that far in time. I suggest using something like the commonly-used Unix/Posix epoch reference date of 1970, 1970-01-01.

LocalDate EPOCH_DATE = LocalDate.ofEpochDay( 0 ); // 1970-01-01 is day 0 in Epoch counting.

About java.time

The java.time framework is built into Java 8 and later. These classes supplant the troublesome old legacy date-time classes such as java.util.Date, Calendar, & SimpleDateFormat.

The Joda-Time project, now in maintenance mode, advises migration to the java.time classes.

To learn more, see the Oracle Tutorial. And search Stack Overflow for many examples and explanations. Specification is JSR 310.

You may exchange java.time objects directly with your database. Use a JDBC driver compliant with JDBC 4.2 or later. No need for strings, no need for java.sql.* classes.

Where to obtain the java.time classes?

The ThreeTen-Extra project extends java.time with additional classes. This project is a proving ground for possible future additions to java.time. You may find some useful classes here such as Interval, YearWeek, YearQuarter, and more.

How do I get values from a SQL database into textboxes using C#?

If you want to display single value access from database into textbox, please refer to the code below:

SqlConnection con=new SqlConnection("connection string");
SqlCommand cmd=new SqlConnection(SqlQuery,Con);
Con.Open();
TextBox1.Text=cmd.ExecuteScalar();
Con.Close();

or

SqlConnection con=new SqlConnection("connection string");

How to resolve ambiguous column names when retrieving results?

Another tip: if you want to have cleaner PHP code, you can create a VIEW in the database, e.g.

For example:

CREATE VIEW view_news AS
SELECT
  news.id news_id,
  user.id user_id,
  user.name user_name,
  [ OTHER FIELDS ]
FROM news, users
WHERE news.user_id = user.id;

In PHP:

$sql = "SELECT * FROM view_news";

How do I sort a two-dimensional (rectangular) array in C#?

Can I check - do you mean a rectangular array ([,])or a jagged array ([][])?

It is quite easy to sort a jagged array; I have a discussion on that here. Obviously in this case the Comparison<T> would involve a column instead of sorting by ordinal - but very similar.

Sorting a rectangular array is trickier... I'd probably be tempted to copy the data out into either a rectangular array or a List<T[]>, and sort there, then copy back.

Here's an example using a jagged array:

static void Main()
{ // could just as easily be string...
    int[][] data = new int[][] {
        new int[] {1,2,3},
        new int[] {2,3,4},
        new int[] {2,4,1}
    };
    Sort<int>(data, 2);
}
private static void Sort<T>(T[][] data, int col)
{
    Comparer<T> comparer = Comparer<T>.Default;
    Array.Sort<T[]>(data, (x,y) => comparer.Compare(x[col],y[col]));
}

For working with a rectangular array... well, here is some code to swap between the two on the fly...

static T[][] ToJagged<T>(this T[,] array) {
    int height = array.GetLength(0), width = array.GetLength(1);
    T[][] jagged = new T[height][];

    for (int i = 0; i < height; i++)
    {
        T[] row = new T[width];
        for (int j = 0; j < width; j++)
        {
            row[j] = array[i, j];
        }
        jagged[i] = row;
    }
    return jagged;
}
static T[,] ToRectangular<T>(this T[][] array)
{
    int height = array.Length, width = array[0].Length;
    T[,] rect = new T[height, width];
    for (int i = 0; i < height; i++)
    {
        T[] row = array[i];
        for (int j = 0; j < width; j++)
        {
            rect[i, j] = row[j];
        }
    }
    return rect;
}
// fill an existing rectangular array from a jagged array
static void WriteRows<T>(this T[,] array, params T[][] rows)
{
    for (int i = 0; i < rows.Length; i++)
    {
        T[] row = rows[i];
        for (int j = 0; j < row.Length; j++)
        {
            array[i, j] = row[j];
        }
    }
}

Why am I seeing "TypeError: string indices must be integers"?

The variable item is a string. An index looks like this:

>>> mystring = 'helloworld'
>>> print mystring[0]
'h'

The above example uses the 0 index of the string to refer to the first character.

Strings can't have string indices (like dictionaries can). So this won't work:

>>> mystring = 'helloworld'
>>> print mystring['stringindex']
TypeError: string indices must be integers

How to check if a python module exists without importing it

I came across this question while searching for a way to check if a module is loaded from the command line and would like to share my thoughts for the ones coming after me and looking for the same:

Linux/UNIX script file method: make a file module_help.py:

#!/usr/bin/env python

help('modules')

Then make sure it's executable: chmod u+x module_help.py

And call it with a pipe to grep:

./module_help.py | grep module_name

Invoke the built-in help system. (This function is intended for interactive use.) If no argument is given, the interactive help system starts on the interpreter console. If the argument is a string, then the string is looked up as the name of a module, function, class, method, keyword, or documentation topic, and a help page is printed on the console. If the argument is any other kind of object, a help page on the object is generated.

Interactive method: in the console load python

>>> help('module_name')

If found quit reading by typing q
To exit the python interactive session press Ctrl + D

Windows script file method also Linux/UNIX compatible, and better overall:

#!/usr/bin/env python

import sys

help(sys.argv[1])

Calling it from the command like:

python module_help.py site

Would output:

Help on module site:

NAME site - Append module search paths for third-party packages to sys.path.

FILE /usr/lib/python2.7/site.py

MODULE DOCS http://docs.python.org/library/site

DESCRIPTION
...
:

and you'd have to press q to exit interactive mode.

Using it unknown module:

python module_help.py lkajshdflkahsodf

Would output:

no Python documentation found for 'lkajshdflkahsodf'

and exit.

Count Rows in Doctrine QueryBuilder

How to make a machine trust a self-signed Java application

SERIOUS DISCLAIMER

This solution has a serious security flaw. Please use at your own risk.
Have a look at the comments on this post, and look at all the answers to this question.

OK, I had to go to the customer premises and found a solution. I:

  • Exported the keystore that holds the signing keys in PKCS #12 format
  • Opened control panel Java -> Security tab
  • Clicked Manage certificates
  • Imported this new keystore as a secure site CA

Then I opened the JAWS application without any warning. This is a little bit cumbersome, but much cheaper than buying a signed certificate!

Python: 'break' outside loop

Because break cannot be used to break out of an if - it can only break out of loops. That's the way Python (and most other languages) are specified to behave.

What are you trying to do? Perhaps you should use sys.exit() or return instead?

ASP.NET MVC Yes/No Radio Buttons with Strongly Bound Model MVC

Building slightly off Ben's answer, I added attributes for the ID so I could use labels.

<%: Html.Label("isBlahYes", "Yes")%><%= Html.RadioButtonFor(model => model.blah, true, new { @id = "isBlahYes" })%>
<%: Html.Label("isBlahNo", "No")%><%= Html.RadioButtonFor(model => model.blah, false, new { @id = "isBlahNo" })%>

I hope this helps.

Group array items using object

Start by creating a mapping of group names to values. Then transform into your desired format.

_x000D_
_x000D_
var myArray = [_x000D_
    {group: "one", color: "red"},_x000D_
    {group: "two", color: "blue"},_x000D_
    {group: "one", color: "green"},_x000D_
    {group: "one", color: "black"}_x000D_
];_x000D_
_x000D_
var group_to_values = myArray.reduce(function (obj, item) {_x000D_
    obj[item.group] = obj[item.group] || [];_x000D_
    obj[item.group].push(item.color);_x000D_
    return obj;_x000D_
}, {});_x000D_
_x000D_
var groups = Object.keys(group_to_values).map(function (key) {_x000D_
    return {group: key, color: group_to_values[key]};_x000D_
});_x000D_
_x000D_
var pre = document.createElement("pre");_x000D_
pre.innerHTML = "groups:\n\n" + JSON.stringify(groups, null, 4);_x000D_
document.body.appendChild(pre);
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

Using Array instance methods such as reduce and map gives you powerful higher-level constructs that can save you a lot of the pain of looping manually.

Generic type conversion FROM string

I am not sure whether I understood your intentions correctly, but let's see if this one helps.

public class TypedProperty<T> : Property where T : IConvertible
{
    public T TypedValue
    {
        get { return (T)Convert.ChangeType(base.Value, typeof(T)); }
        set { base.Value = value.ToString();}
    }
}

BASH Syntax error near unexpected token 'done'

What is the error you're getting?

$ bash file.sh
test.sh: line 8: syntax error: unexpected end of file

If you get that error, you may have bad line endings. Unix uses <LF> at the end of the file while Windows uses <CR><LF>. That <CR> character gets interpreted as a character.

You can use od -a test.sh to see the invisible characters in the file.

$ od -a test.sh
0000000    #   !   /   b   i   n   /   b   a   s   h  cr  nl   #  sp  cr
0000020   nl   w   h   i   l   e  sp   :  cr  nl   d   o  cr  nl  sp  sp
0000040   sp  sp   e   c   h   o  sp   "   P   r   e   s   s  sp   [   C
0000060    T   R   L   +   C   ]  sp   t   o  sp   s   t   o   p   "  cr
0000100   nl  sp  sp  sp  sp   s   l   e   e   p  sp   1  cr  nl   d   o
0000120    n   e  cr  nl
0000124

The sp stands for space, the ht stands for tab, the cr stands for <CR> and the nl stands for <LF>. Note that all of the lines end with cr followed by a nl character.

You can also use cat -v test.sh if your cat command takes the -v parameter.

If you have dos2unix on your box, you can use that command to fix your file:

$ dos2unix test.sh

SQL Server principal "dbo" does not exist,

How to implement authenticated routes in React Router 4?

My Previous answer is not scalable. Here is what I think is good approach-

Your Routes-

<Switch>
  <Route
    exact path="/"
    component={matchStateToProps(InitialAppState, {
      routeOpen: true // no auth is needed to access this route
    })} />
  <Route
    exact path="/profile"
    component={matchStateToProps(Profile, {
      routeOpen: false // can set it false or just omit this key
    })} />
  <Route
    exact path="/login"
    component={matchStateToProps(Login, {
      routeOpen: true
    })} />
  <Route
    exact path="/forgot-password"
    component={matchStateToProps(ForgotPassword, {
      routeOpen: true
    })} />
  <Route
    exact path="/dashboard"
    component={matchStateToProps(DashBoard)} />
</Switch>

Idea is to use a wrapper in component props which would return original component if no auth is required or already authenticated otherwise would return default component e.g. Login.

const matchStateToProps = function(Component, defaultProps) {
  return (props) => {
    let authRequired = true;

    if (defaultProps && defaultProps.routeOpen) {
      authRequired = false;
    }

    if (authRequired) {
      // check if loginState key exists in localStorage (Your auth logic goes here)
      if (window.localStorage.getItem(STORAGE_KEYS.LOGIN_STATE)) {
        return <Component { ...defaultProps } />; // authenticated, good to go
      } else {
        return <InitialAppState { ...defaultProps } />; // not authenticated
      }
    }
    return <Component { ...defaultProps } />; // no auth is required
  };
};

How can I show the table structure in SQL Server query?

In SQL Server, you can use this query:

USE Database_name

SELECT *
FROM INFORMATION_SCHEMA.COLUMNS
WHERE TABLE_NAME='Table_Name';

And do not forget to replace Database_name and Table_name with the exact names of your database and table names.

A non-blocking read on a subprocess.PIPE in Python

The select module helps you determine where the next useful input is.

However, you're almost always happier with separate threads. One does a blocking read the stdin, another does wherever it is you don't want blocked.

Can't connect to localhost on SQL Server Express 2012 / 2016

First try the most popular solution provided by Ravindra Bagale.

If your connection from localhost to the database still fails with error similar to the following:

Can't connect to SQL Server DB. Error: The TCP/IP connection to the host [IP address], port 1433 has failed. Error: "Connection refused: connect. Verify the connection properties. Make sure that an instance of SQL Server is running on the host and accepting TCP/IP connections at the port. Make sure that TCP connections to the port are not blocked by a firewall."

  1. Open the SQL Server Configuration Manager.
  2. Expand SQL Server Network Configuration for the server instance in question.
  3. Double-click "TCP/IP".
  4. Under the "Protocol" section, set "Enabled" to "Yes".
  5. Under the "IP Addresses" section, set the TCP port under "IP All" (which is 1433 by default).
  6. Under the "IP Addresses" section, find subsections with IP address 127.0.0.1 (for IPv4) and ::1 (for IPv6) and set both "Enabled" and "Active" to "Yes", and TCP port to 1433.

    TCP/IP Properties

  7. Go to Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services, and restart the SQL Server service (SQLEXPRESS).

How to link html pages in same or different folders?

Also, this will go up a directory and then back down to another subfolder.

<a href = "../subfolder/page.html">link</a>

To go up multiple directories you can do this.

<a href = "../../page.html">link</a>

To go the root, I use this

<a href = "~/page.html">link</a>

Send private messages to friends

No, this isn't possible. In order for you to send messages of any kind to a Facebook user, you need that user's permission to do so.

If someone logs into your site with Facebook Connect, they are explicitly agreeing to share their Facebook data with your site, and you will then be able to send that person a message through the normal channels. You would also be able to fetch their friend list. However, you can not send messages to the friends.

Python unexpected EOF while parsing

I'm trying to answer in general, not related to this question, this error generally occurs when you break a syntax in half and forget the other half. Like in my case it was:

try :
 ....

since python was searching for a

except Exception as e:
 ....

but it encountered an EOF (End Of File), hence the error. See if you can find any incomplete syntax in your code.

rand() returns the same number each time the program is run

srand() seeds the random number generator. Without a seed, the generator is unable to generate the numbers you are looking for. As long as one's need for random numbers is not security-critical (e.g. any sort of cryptography), common practice is to use the system time as a seed by using the time() function from the <ctime> library as such: srand(time(0)). This will seed the random number generator with the system time expressed as a Unix timestamp (i.e. the number of seconds since the date 1/1/1970). You can then use rand() to generate a pseudo-random number.

Here is a quote from a duplicate question:

The reason is that a random number generated from the rand() function isn't actually random. It simply is a transformation. Wikipedia gives a better explanation of the meaning of pseudorandom number generator: deterministic random bit generator. Every time you call rand() it takes the seed and/or the last random number(s) generated (the C standard doesn't specify the algorithm used, though C++11 has facilities for specifying some popular algorithms), runs a mathematical operation on those numbers, and returns the result. So if the seed state is the same each time (as it is if you don't call srand with a truly random number), then you will always get the same 'random' numbers out.

If you want to know more, you can read the following:

Bring a window to the front in WPF

I have found a solution that brings the window to the top, but it behaves as a normal window:

if (!Window.IsVisible)
{
    Window.Show();
}

if (Window.WindowState == WindowState.Minimized)
{
    Window.WindowState = WindowState.Normal;
}

Window.Activate();
Window.Topmost = true;  // important
Window.Topmost = false; // important
Window.Focus();         // important

Why is "npm install" really slow?

Problem: NPM does not perform well if you do not keep it up to date. However, bleeding edge versions have been broken for me in the past.

Solution: As Kraang mentioned, use node version manager nvm, with its --lts flag

Install it:

curl -o- https://raw.githubusercontent.com/creationix/nvm/master/install.sh | bash

Then use this often to upgrade to the latest "long-term support" version of NPM:

nvm install --lts

Big caveat: you'll likely have to reinstall all packages when you get a new npm version.

How to make a UILabel clickable?

Swift 5

Similar to @liorco, but need to replace @objc with @IBAction.

class DetailViewController: UIViewController {

    @IBOutlet weak var tripDetails: UILabel!

    override func viewDidLoad() {
        super.viewDidLoad()
        ...

        let tap = UITapGestureRecognizer(target: self, action: #selector(DetailViewController.tapFunction))
        tripDetails.isUserInteractionEnabled = true
        tripDetails.addGestureRecognizer(tap)
    }

    @IBAction func tapFunction(sender: UITapGestureRecognizer) {
        print("tap working")
    }
}

This is working on Xcode 10.2.

Make WPF Application Fullscreen (Cover startmenu)

If you want user to change between WindowStyle.SingleBorderWindow and WindowStyle.None at runtime you can bring this at code behind:

Make application fullscreen:

RootWindow.Visibility = Visibility.Collapsed;
RootWindow.WindowStyle = WindowStyle.None;
RootWindow.ResizeMode = ResizeMode.NoResize;
RootWindow.WindowState = WindowState.Maximized;
RootWindow.Topmost = true;
RootWindow.Visibility = Visibility.Visible;

Return to single border style:

RootWindow.WindowStyle = WindowStyle.SingleBorderWindow;
RootWindow.ResizeMode = ResizeMode.CanResize;
RootWindow.Topmost = false;

Note that without RootWindow.Visibility property your window will not cover start menu, however you can skip this step if you making application fullscreen once at startup.

how to change text in Android TextView

I just posted this answer in the android-discuss google group

If you are just trying to add text to the view so that it displays "Step One: blast egg Step Two: fry egg" Then consider using t.appendText("Step Two: fry egg"); instead of t.setText("Step Two: fry egg");

If you want to completely change what is in the TextView so that it says "Step One: blast egg" on startup and then it says "Step Two: fry egg" at a time later you can always use a

What does "connection reset by peer" mean?

This means that a TCP RST was received and the connection is now closed. This occurs when a packet is sent from your end of the connection but the other end does not recognize the connection; it will send back a packet with the RST bit set in order to forcibly close the connection.

This can happen if the other side crashes and then comes back up or if it calls close() on the socket while there is data from you in transit, and is an indication to you that some of the data that you previously sent may not have been received.

It is up to you whether that is an error; if the information you were sending was only for the benefit of the remote client then it may not matter that any final data may have been lost. However you should close the socket and free up any other resources associated with the connection.

How do I write a for loop in bash

if you're intereased only in bash the "for(( ... ))" solution presented above is the best, but if you want something POSIX SH compliant that will work on all unices you'll have to use "expr" and "while", and that's because "(())" or "seq" or "i=i+1" are not that portable among various shells

How to remove leading and trailing whitespace in a MySQL field?

I know its already accepted, but for thoses like me who look for "remove ALL whitespaces" (not just at the begining and endingof the string):

select SUBSTRING_INDEX('1234 243', ' ', 1);
// returns '1234'

EDIT 2019/6/20 : Yeah, that's not good. The function returns the part of the string since "when the character space occured for the first time". So, I guess that saying this remove the leading and trailling whitespaces and returns the first word :

select SUBSTRING_INDEX(TRIM(' 1234 243'), ' ', 1);

Array or List in Java. Which is faster?

I suggest that you use a profiler to test which is faster.

My personal opinion is that you should use Lists.

I work on a large codebase and a previous group of developers used arrays everywhere. It made the code very inflexible. After changing large chunks of it to Lists we noticed no difference in speed.

Regular expression for floating point numbers

In C++ using the regex library

The answer would go about like this:

[0-9]?([0-9]*[.])?[0-9]+

Notice that I don't take the sign symbol, if you wanted it with the sign symbol it would go about this:

[+-]?([0-9]*[.])?[0-9]+

This also separates a regular number or a decimal number.

How can I find the length of a number?

I've been using this functionality in node.js, this is my fastest implementation so far:

var nLength = function(n) {
    return (Math.log(Math.abs(n)+1) * 0.43429448190325176 | 0) + 1;
}

It should handle positive and negative integers (also in exponential form) and should return the length of integer part in floats.

The following reference should provide some insight into the method: Weisstein, Eric W. "Number Length." From MathWorld--A Wolfram Web Resource.

I believe that some bitwise operation can replace the Math.abs, but jsperf shows that Math.abs works just fine in the majority of js engines.

Update: As noted in the comments, this solution has some issues :(

Update2 (workaround) : I believe that at some point precision issues kick in and the Math.log(...)*0.434... just behaves unexpectedly. However, if Internet Explorer or Mobile devices are not your cup of tea, you can replace this operation with the Math.log10 function. In Node.js I wrote a quick basic test with the function nLength = (n) => 1 + Math.log10(Math.abs(n) + 1) | 0; and with Math.log10 it worked as expected. Please note that Math.log10 is not universally supported.

php delete a single file in directory

The script you downloaded lists the content of a specified folder. You probably put the unlink - call in one of the while-loops that list the files.

EDIT - Now that you posted your code:

echo '<a href="'.unlink($FileLink).'"><img src="images/icons/delete.gif"></a></td>';

Doing this calls the unlink-function each time the line is written, deleting your file. You have to write a link to a script that contains a delete function and pass some parameter that tells your script what to delete.

Example:

<a href="/path/to/script.php?delete='. $FileLink .'">delete</a>

You should not pass the path to a file this script and just delete it though, because malevolent being might use it to just delete everything or do other evil things.

javascript - pass selected value from popup window to parent window input box

My approach: use a div instead of a pop-up window.

See it working in the jsfiddle here: http://jsfiddle.net/6RE7w/2/

Beginner question: returning a boolean value from a function in Python

Ignoring the refactoring issues, you need to understand functions and return values. You don't need a global at all. Ever. You can do this:

def rps():
    # Code to determine if player wins
    if player_wins:
        return True

    return False

Then, just assign a value to the variable outside this function like so:

player_wins = rps()

It will be assigned the return value (either True or False) of the function you just called.

After the comments, I decided to add that idiomatically, this would be better expressed thus:

 def rps():
     # Code to determine if player wins, assigning a boolean value (True or False)
     # to the variable player_wins.

     return player_wins

 pw = rps()

This assigns the boolean value of player_wins (inside the function) to the pw variable outside the function.

Leverage browser caching, how on apache or .htaccess?

This is what I use to control headers/caching, I'm not an Apache pro, so let me know if there is room for improvement, but I know that this has been working well on all of my sites for some time now.

Mod_expires

http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/mod/mod_expires.html

This module controls the setting of the Expires HTTP header and the max-age directive of the Cache-Control HTTP header in server responses. The expiration date can set to be relative to either the time the source file was last modified, or to the time of the client access.

These HTTP headers are an instruction to the client about the document's validity and persistence. If cached, the document may be fetched from the cache rather than from the source until this time has passed. After that, the cache copy is considered "expired" and invalid, and a new copy must be obtained from the source.

# BEGIN Expires

Unable to convert MySQL date/time value to System.DateTime

You can make the application fully compatible with the date and time that is used by MySql. When the application runs at runtime provide this code. First Go to the Application Events. In the list of tools

  1. Go to the project
  2. Project Properties
  3. Select the Application tab
  4. View Application Events

This will open a new file. This file contains code used at the start of the application.

Write this code in that new file:

Cause:

The Tomcat container caches .java and .class files generated by the JSP parser they are used by the web application. Sometimes these get corrupted or cannot be found. This may occur after a patch or upgrade that contains modifications to JSPs.

Resolution

1.Delete the contents of the /work folder if using standalone JIRA or /work if using EAR/WAR installation . 2. Verify the user running the JIRA application process has Read/Write permission to the /work directory. 3. Restart the JIRA application container to rebuild the files.

async at console app in C#?

My solution. The JSONServer is a class I wrote for running an HttpListener server in a console window.

class Program
{
    public static JSONServer srv = null;

    static void Main(string[] args)
    {
        Console.WriteLine("NLPS Core Server");

        srv = new JSONServer(100);
        srv.Start();

        InputLoopProcessor();

        while(srv.IsRunning)
        {
            Thread.Sleep(250);
        }

    }

    private static async Task InputLoopProcessor()
    {
        string line = "";

        Console.WriteLine("Core NLPS Server: Started on port 8080. " + DateTime.Now);

        while(line != "quit")
        {
            Console.Write(": ");

Auto margins don't center image in page

there is a alternative to margin-left:auto; margin-right: auto; or margin:0 auto; for the ones that use position:absolute; this is how:
you set the left position of the element to 50% (left:50%;) but that will not center it correctly in order for the element to be centered correctly you need to give it a margin of minus half of it`s width, that will center your element perfectly

here is an example: http://jsfiddle.net/35ERq/3/

use of entityManager.createNativeQuery(query,foo.class)

JPA was designed to provide an automatic mapping between Objects and a relational database. Since Integer is not a persistant entity, why do you need to use JPA ? A simple JDBC request will work fine.

Reporting Services permissions on SQL Server R2 SSRS

You need to set permissions within SSRS in two places to give yourself initial access. The set-up program only gives access to Builtin\Administrators, to gain access in order to do this you need to right click you browser link and choose Run as administrator.

  1. Run internet explorer as Administrator
  2. Open the report Manager URL, this time you should get in
  3. Go to Site Settings in the top right
  4. Click Security then New Role Assignment
  5. Enter your domain\username and select System Administrator, click ok
  6. Add other users as necessary
  7. Click home, Folder Settings, then New Role Assignment
  8. Enter your domain\username and select Content Manager, click ok
  9. Add other users as necessary
  10. Re-open internet explorer (non-admin) and recheck the url.

Use dynamic (variable) string as regex pattern in JavaScript

Much easier way: use template literals.

var variable = 'foo'
var expression = `.*${variable}.*`
var re = new RegExp(expression, 'g')
re.test('fdjklsffoodjkslfd') // true
re.test('fdjklsfdjkslfd') // false

When to use virtual destructors?

I thought it would be beneficial to discuss the "undefined" behavior, or at least the "crash" undefined behavior that may occur when deleting through a base class(/struct) without a virtual destructor, or more precisely no vtable. The code below list a few simple structs (the same would be true for classes).

#include <iostream>
using namespace std;

struct a
{
    ~a() {}

    unsigned long long i;
};

struct b : a
{
    ~b() {}

    unsigned long long j;
};

struct c : b
{
    ~c() {}

    virtual void m3() {}

    unsigned long long k;
};

struct d : c
{
    ~d() {}

    virtual void m4() {}

    unsigned long long l;
};

int main()
{
    cout << "sizeof(a): " << sizeof(a) << endl;
    cout << "sizeof(b): " << sizeof(b) << endl;
    cout << "sizeof(c): " << sizeof(c) << endl;
    cout << "sizeof(d): " << sizeof(d) << endl;

    // No issue.

    a* a1 = new a();
    cout << "a1: " << a1 << endl;
    delete a1;

    // No issue.

    b* b1 = new b();
    cout << "b1: " << b1 << endl;
    cout << "(a*) b1: " << (a*) b1 << endl;
    delete b1;

    // No issue.

    c* c1 = new c();
    cout << "c1: " << c1 << endl;
    cout << "(b*) c1: " << (b*) c1 << endl;
    cout << "(a*) c1: " << (a*) c1 << endl;
    delete c1;

    // No issue.

    d* d1 = new d();
    cout << "d1: " << d1 << endl;
    cout << "(c*) d1: " << (c*) d1 << endl;
    cout << "(b*) d1: " << (b*) d1 << endl;
    cout << "(a*) d1: " << (a*) d1 << endl;
    delete d1;

    // Doesn't crash, but may not produce the results you want.

    c1 = (c*) new d();
    delete c1;

    // Crashes due to passing an invalid address to the method which
    // frees the memory.

    d1 = new d();
    b1 = (b*) d1;
    cout << "d1: " << d1 << endl;
    cout << "b1: " << b1 << endl;
    delete b1;

/*

    // This is similar to what's happening above in the "crash" case.

    char* buf = new char[32];
    cout << "buf: " << (void*) buf << endl;
    buf += 8;
    cout << "buf after adding 8: " << (void*) buf << endl;
    delete buf;
*/
}

I'm not suggesting whether you need virtual destructors or not, though I think in general it's a good practice to have them. I'm just pointing out the reason you may end up with a crash if your base class(/struct) does not have a vtable and your derived class(/struct) does and you delete an object via a base class(/struct) pointer. In this case, the address you pass to the heap's free routine is invalid and thus the reason for the crash.

If you run the above code you'll see clearly when the issue occurs. When the this pointer of the base class(/struct) is different from the this pointer of the derived class(/struct) you're going to run into this problem. In the sample above, struct a and b don't have vtables. structs c and d do have vtables. Thus an a or b pointer to a c or d object instance will be fixed up to account for the vtable. If you pass this a or b pointer to delete it will crash due to the address being invalid to the heap's free routine.

If you plan to delete derived instances which have vtables from base class pointers, you need to ensure the base class has a vtable. One way to do that is to add a virtual destructor, which you might want anyway to properly clean up resources.

How to gracefully handle the SIGKILL signal in Java

You can use Runtime.getRuntime().addShutdownHook(...), but you cannot be guaranteed that it will be called in any case.

Checking if a character is a special character in Java

This method checks if a String contains a special character (based on your definition).

/**
 * Returns true if s contains any character other than
 * letters, numbers, or spaces. Returns false otherwise.
 */

public boolean containsSpecialCharacter(String s) {
    return (s == null) ? false : s.matches("[^A-Za-z0-9 ]");
}

You can use the same logic to count special characters in a string like this:

/**
 * Counts the number of special characters in s.
 */

 public int getSpecialCharacterCount(String s) {
     if (s == null || s.trim().isEmpty()) {
         return 0;
     }
     int theCount = 0;
     for (int i = 0; i < s.length(); i++) {
         if (s.substring(i, 1).matches("[^A-Za-z0-9 ]")) {
             theCount++;
         }
     }
     return theCount;
 }

Another approach is to put all the special chars in a String and use String.contains:

/**
 * Counts the number of special characters in s.
 */

 public int getSpecialCharacterCount(String s) {
     if (s == null || s.trim().isEmpty()) {
         return 0;
     }
     int theCount = 0;
     String specialChars = "/*!@#$%^&*()\"{}_[]|\\?/<>,.";
     for (int i = 0; i < s.length(); i++) {
         if (specialChars.contains(s.substring(i, 1))) {
             theCount++;
         }
     }
     return theCount;
 }

NOTE: You must escape the backslash and " character with a backslashes.

The above are examples of how to approach this problem in general.

For your exact problem as stated in the question, the answer by @LanguagesNamedAfterCoffee is the most efficient approach.

How to use environment variables in docker compose

Since 1.25.4, docker-compose supports the option --env-file that enables you to specify a file containing variables.

Yours should look like this:

hostname=my-host-name

And the command:

docker-compose --env-file /path/to/my-env-file config

Sharing a variable between multiple different threads

Using static will not help your case.

Using synchronize locks a variable when it is in use by another thread.

You should use volatile keyword to keep the variable updated among all threads.

Using volatile is yet another way (like synchronized, atomic wrapper) of making class thread safe. Thread safe means that a method or class instance can be used by multiple threads at the same time without any problem.

laravel throwing MethodNotAllowedHttpException

My suspicion is the problem lies in your route definition.

You defined the route as a GET request but the form is probably sending a POST request. Change your route definition to match the form's request method.

Route::post('/validate', [MemberController::class, 'validateCredentials']);

It's generally better practice to use named routes (helps to scale if the controller method/class changes).

Route::post('/validate', [MemberController::class, 'validateCredentials'])
    ->name('member.validateCredentials');

In the view, use the validation route as the form's action.

<form action="{{ route('member.validateCredentials') }}" method="POST">
  @csrf
...
</form>

remove attribute display:none; so the item will be visible

$('#lol').get(0).style.display=''

or..

$('#lol').css('display', '')

Can't concatenate 2 arrays in PHP

It is indeed a key conflict. When concatenating arrays, duplicate keys are not overwritten.

Instead you must use array_merge()

$array = array_merge(array('Item 1'), array('Item 2'));

Why would you use String.Equals over ==?

There is practical difference between string.Equals and ==

bool result = false;

object obj = "String";
string str2 = "String";
string str3 = typeof(string).Name;
string str4 = "String";
object obj2 = str3;

// Comparision between object obj and string str2 -- Com 1
result = string.Equals(obj, str2);// true
result = String.ReferenceEquals(obj, str2); // true
result = (obj == str2);// true

// Comparision between object obj and string str3 -- Com 2
result = string.Equals(obj, str3);// true
result = String.ReferenceEquals(obj, str3); // false
result = (obj == str3);// false

// Comparision between object obj and string str4 -- Com 3
result = string.Equals(obj, str4);// true
result = String.ReferenceEquals(obj, str4); // true
result = (obj == str4);// true

// Comparision between string str2 and string str3 -- Com 4
result = string.Equals(str2, str3);// true
result = String.ReferenceEquals(str2, str3); // false
result = (str2 == str3);// true

// Comparision between string str2 and string str4 -- Com 5
result = string.Equals(str2, str4);// true
result = String.ReferenceEquals(str2, str4); // true
result = (str2 == str4);// true

// Comparision between string str3 and string str4 -- Com 6
result = string.Equals(str3, str4);// true
result = String.ReferenceEquals(str3, str4); // false
result = (str3 == str4);// true

// Comparision between object obj and object obj2 -- Com 7
result = String.Equals(obj, obj2);// true
result = String.ReferenceEquals(obj, obj2); // false
result = (obj == obj2);// false

Adding Watch

obj     "String" {1#}   object {string}
str2    "String" {1#}   string
str3    "String" {5#}   string
str4    "String" {1#}   string
obj2    "String" {5#}   object {string}

Now look at {1#} and {5#}

obj, str2, str4 and obj2 references are same.

obj and obj2 are object type and others are string type

Conclusion:

  1. com1: result = (obj == str2);// true
    • compares object and string so performs a reference equality check
    • obj and str2 point to the same reference so the result is true
  2. com2: result = (obj == str3);// false
    • compares object and string so performs a reference equality check
    • obj and str3 point to the different references so the result is false
  3. com3: result = (obj == str4);// true
    • compares object and string so performs a reference equality check
    • obj and str4 point to the same reference so the result is true
  4. com4: result = (str2 == str3);// true
    • compares string and string so performs a string value check
    • str2 and str3 are both "String" so the result is true
  5. com5: result = (str2 == str4);// true
    • compares string and string so performs a string value check
    • str2 and str4 are both "String" so the result is true
  6. com6: result = (str3 == str4);// true
    • compares string and string so performs a string value check
    • str3 and str4 are both "String" so the result is true
  7. com7: result = (obj == obj2);// false  - compares object and object so performs a reference equality check      - obj and obj2 point to the different references so the result is false

Blade if(isset) is not working Laravel

On Controller

$data = ModelName::select('name')->get()->toArray();
return view('viewtemplatename')->with('yourVariableName', $data);

On Blade file

@if(isset($yourVariableName))
//do you work here
@endif

C++ sorting and keeping track of indexes

There is another way to solve this, using a map:

vector<double> v = {...}; // input data
map<double, unsigned> m; // mapping from value to its index
for (auto it = v.begin(); it != v.end(); ++it)
    m[*it] = it - v.begin();

This will eradicate non-unique elements though. If that's not acceptable, use a multimap:

vector<double> v = {...}; // input data
multimap<double, unsigned> m; // mapping from value to its index
for (auto it = v.begin(); it != v.end(); ++it)
    m.insert(make_pair(*it, it - v.begin()));

In order to output the indices, iterate over the map or multimap:

for (auto it = m.begin(); it != m.end(); ++it)
    cout << it->second << endl;

Automatically open Chrome developer tools when new tab/new window is opened

Yep,there is a way you could do it

  1. Right click->Inspect->sources(tab)

  2. Towards Your right there will be a "pause script execution button" The button highlighted in the image directed by this link is the script execution button which can be paused or played as per necessity.Try it Yourself

I hope it helps!Peace

Device not detected in Eclipse when connected with USB cable

For me the problem is with Defective USB Cable. I have tried those above all answers. Nothing gives me any fix. But finally i came to know the problem is because of my usb cable while changing the usb cable. While connecting through the usb cable the phone is charging but the drivers are not installed. Some usb cable don't have the option for that. So while buying check it and buy.

Is there a list of Pytz Timezones?

Don't create your own list - pytz has a built-in set:

import pytz
set(pytz.all_timezones_set)
>>> {'Europe/Vienna', 'America/New_York', 'America/Argentina/Salta',..}

You can then apply a timezone:

import datetime
tz = pytz.timezone('Pacific/Johnston')
ct = datetime.datetime.now(tz=tz)
>>> ct.isoformat()
2017-01-13T11:29:22.601991-05:00

Or if you already have a datetime object that is TZ aware (not naive):

# This timestamp is in UTC
my_ct = datetime.datetime.now(tz=pytz.UTC)

# Now convert it to another timezone
new_ct = my_ct.astimezone(tz)
>>> new_ct.isoformat()
2017-01-13T11:29:22.601991-05:00

How SID is different from Service name in Oracle tnsnames.ora

Please see: http://www.sap-img.com/oracle-database/finding-oracle-sid-of-a-database.htm

What is the difference between Oracle SIDs and Oracle SERVICE NAMES. One config tool looks for SERVICE NAME and then the next looks for SIDs! What's going on?!

Oracle SID is the unique name that uniquely identifies your instance/database where as Service name is the TNS alias that you give when you remotely connect to your database and this Service name is recorded in Tnsnames.ora file on your clients and it can be the same as SID and you can also give it any other name you want.

SERVICE_NAME is the new feature from oracle 8i onwards in which database can register itself with listener. If database is registered with listener in this way then you can use SERVICE_NAME parameter in tnsnames.ora otherwise - use SID in tnsnames.ora.

Also if you have OPS (RAC) you will have different SERVICE_NAME for each instance.

SERVICE_NAMES specifies one or more names for the database service to which this instance connects. You can specify multiple services names in order to distinguish among different uses of the same database. For example:

SERVICE_NAMES = sales.acme.com, widgetsales.acme.com

You can also use service names to identify a single service that is available from two different databases through the use of replication.

In an Oracle Parallel Server environment, you must set this parameter for every instance.

In short: SID = the unique name of your DB instance, ServiceName = the alias used when connecting

Tomcat 7 is not running on browser(http://localhost:8080/ )

Many of us get this error after setting up the eclipse and server for first time. This solution is -

  1. go to server tab

  2. select the properties option of your respective server and expand it

  3. in the properties window , select general tab -> click Switch Location -> click apply ->click ok.

This may work .

disable viewport zooming iOS 10+ safari?

Found this simple work around which appears to prevent double click to zoom:

    // Convert touchend events to click events to work around an IOS 10 feature which prevents
    // developers from using disabling double click touch zoom (which we don't want).
    document.addEventListener('touchend', function (event) {
        event.preventDefault();
        $(event.target).trigger('click');
    }, false);

ArrayAdapter in android to create simple listview

If you have more than one view in the layout file android.R.layout.simple_list_item_1 then you'll have to pass the third argument android.R.id.text1 to specify the view that should be filled with the array elements (values). But if you have just one view in your layout file, there is no need to specify the third argument.

Simple JavaScript Checkbox Validation

You could use:

 if(!this.form.checkbox.checked)
{
    alert('You must agree to the terms first.');
    return false;
}

(demo page).

<input type="checkbox" name="checkbox" value="check"  />
<input type="submit" name="email_submit" value="submit" onclick="if(!this.form.checkbox.checked){alert('You must agree to the terms first.');return false}"  />
  • Returning false from an inline event handler will prevent the default action from taking place (in this case, submitting the form).
  • ! is the Boolean NOT operator.
  • this is the submit button because it is the element the event handler is attached to.
  • .form is the form the submit button is in.
  • .checkbox is the control named "checkbox" in that form.
  • .checked is true if the checkbox is checked and false if the checkbox is unchecked.

Detect when input has a 'readonly' attribute

fastest way is to use the .is() jQuery function.

if ( $('input').is('[readonly]') ) { }

using [readonly] as a selector simply checks if the attribute is defined on your element. if you want to check for a value, you can use something like this instead:

if ( $('input').is('[readonly="somevalue"]') ) { }

refresh div with jquery

I tried the first solution and it works but the end user can easily identify that the div's are refreshing as it is fadeIn(), without fade in i tried .toggle().toggle() and it works perfect. you can try like this

_x000D_
_x000D_
$("#panel").toggle().toggle();
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

it works perfectly for me as i'm developing a messenger and need to minimize and maximize the chat box's and this does it best rather than the above code.

How can I check if some text exist or not in the page using Selenium?

You could retrieve the body text of the whole page like this:

bodyText = self.driver.find_element_by_tag_name('body').text

then use an assert to check it like this:

self.assertTrue("the text you want to check for" in bodyText)

Of course, you can be specific and retrieve a specific DOM element's text and then check that instead of retrieving the whole page.

How to set cache: false in jQuery.get call

Note that callback syntax is deprecated:

Deprecation Notice

The jqXHR.success(), jqXHR.error(), and jqXHR.complete() callback methods introduced in jQuery 1.5 are deprecated as of jQuery 1.8. To prepare your code for their eventual removal, use jqXHR.done(), jqXHR.fail(), and jqXHR.always() instead.

Here a modernized solution using the promise interface

$.ajax({url: "...", cache: false}).done(function( data ) {
    // data contains result
}).fail(function(err){
    // error
});

How to get a .csv file into R?

You mention that you will call on each vertical column so that you can perform calculations. I assume that you just want to examine each single variable. This can be done through the following.

df <- read.csv("myRandomFile.csv", header=TRUE)

df$ID

df$GRADES

df$GPA

Might be helpful just to assign the data to a variable.

var3 <- df$GPA

Microsoft Advertising SDK doesn't deliverer ads

I only use MicrosoftAdvertising.Mobile and Microsoft.Advertising.Mobile.UI and I am served ads. The SDK should only add the DLLs not reference itself.

Note: You need to explicitly set width and height Make sure the phone dialer, and web browser capabilities are enabled

Followup note: Make sure that after you've removed the SDK DLL, that the xmlns references are not still pointing to it. The best route to take here is

  1. Remove the XAML for the ad
  2. Remove the xmlns declaration (usually at the top of the page, but sometimes will be declared in the ad itself)
  3. Remove the bad DLL (the one ending in .SDK )
  4. Do a Clean and then Build (clean out anything remaining from the DLL)
  5. Add the xmlns reference (actual reference is below)
  6. Add the ad to the page (example below)

Here is the xmlns reference:

xmlns:AdNamepace="clr-namespace:Microsoft.Advertising.Mobile.UI;assembly=Microsoft.Advertising.Mobile.UI"

Then the ad itself:

<AdNamespace:AdControl x:Name="myAd" Height="80" Width="480"                    AdUnitId="yourAdUnitIdHere" ApplicationId="yourIdHere"/>

How can I escape a single quote?

You could use HTML entities:

Common MySQL fields and their appropriate data types

Since you're going to be dealing with data of a variable length (names, email addresses), then you'd be wanting to use VARCHAR. The amount of space taken up by a VARCHAR field is [field length] + 1 bytes, up to max length 255, so I wouldn't worry too much about trying to find a perfect size. Take a look at what you'd imagine might be the longest length might be, then double it and set that as your VARCHAR limit. That said...:

I generally set email fields to be VARCHAR(100) - i haven't come up with a problem from that yet. Names I set to VARCHAR(50).

As the others have said, phone numbers and zip/postal codes are not actually numeric values, they're strings containing the digits 0-9 (and sometimes more!), and therefore you should treat them as a string. VARCHAR(20) should be well sufficient.

Note that if you were to store phone numbers as integers, many systems will assume that a number starting with 0 is an octal (base 8) number! Therefore, the perfectly valid phone number "0731602412" would get put into your database as the decimal number "124192010"!!

how to parse JSONArray in android

How to open link in new tab on html?

When to use target='_blank' :

The HTML version (Some devices not support it):

<a href="http://chriscoyier.net" target="_blank">This link will open in new window/tab</a>

The JavaScript version for all Devices :

The use of rel="external" is perfectly valid

<script type="text/javascript" src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.3.2/jquery.min.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
    $('a[rel="external"]').attr('target', '_blank');
</script>

and for Jquery can try with the below one:

$("#content a[href^='http://']").attr("target","_blank");

If browser setting don't allow you to open in new windows :

href = "google.com";
onclick="window.open (this.href, ''); return false";

PHP/MySQL Insert null values

For fields where NULL is acceptable, you could use var_export($var, true) to output the string, integer, or NULL literal. Note that you would not surround the output with quotes because they will be automatically added or omitted.

For example:

mysql_query("insert into table2 (f1, f2) values ('{$row['string_field']}', ".var_export($row['null_field'], true).")");

Function ereg_replace() is deprecated - How to clear this bug?

http://php.net/ereg_replace says:

Note: As of PHP 5.3.0, the regex extension is deprecated in favor of the PCRE extension.

Thus, preg_replace is in every way better choice. Note there are some differences in pattern syntax though.

PDO support for multiple queries (PDO_MYSQL, PDO_MYSQLND)

Tried following code

 $db = new PDO("mysql:host={$dbhost};dbname={$dbname};charset=utf8", $dbuser, $dbpass, array(PDO::ATTR_ERRMODE => PDO::ERRMODE_EXCEPTION));

Then

 try {
 $db->query('SET NAMES gbk');
 $stmt = $db->prepare('SELECT * FROM 2_1_paidused WHERE NumberRenamed = ? LIMIT 1');
 $stmt->execute(array("\xbf\x27 OR 1=1 /*"));
 }
 catch (PDOException $e){
 echo "DataBase Errorz: " .$e->getMessage() .'<br>';
 }
 catch (Exception $e) {
 echo "General Errorz: ".$e->getMessage() .'<br>';
 }

And got

DataBase Errorz: SQLSTATE[42000]: Syntax error or access violation: 1064 You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '/*' LIMIT 1' at line 1

If added $db->setAttribute(PDO::ATTR_EMULATE_PREPARES, false); after $db = ...

Then got blank page

If instead SELECT tried DELETE, then in both cases got error like

 DataBase Errorz: SQLSTATE[42000]: Syntax error or access violation: 1064 You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '* FROM 2_1_paidused WHERE NumberRenamed = '¿\' OR 1=1 /*' LIMIT 1' at line 1

So my conclusion that no injection possible...

decompiling DEX into Java sourcecode

Easiest method to decompile an android app is to download an app named ShowJava from playstore . Just select the application that needs to be decompiled from the list of applications. There are three different decompiler you can use to decompile an app namely -

What are the differences between LDAP and Active Directory?

LDAP sits on top of the TCP/IP stack and controls internet directory access. It is environment agnostic.

AD & ADSI is a COM wrapper around the LDAP layer, and is Windows specific.

You can see Microsoft's explanation here.

Find nearest value in numpy array

Here's a version that will handle a non-scalar "values" array:

import numpy as np

def find_nearest(array, values):
    indices = np.abs(np.subtract.outer(array, values)).argmin(0)
    return array[indices]

Or a version that returns a numeric type (e.g. int, float) if the input is scalar:

def find_nearest(array, values):
    values = np.atleast_1d(values)
    indices = np.abs(np.subtract.outer(array, values)).argmin(0)
    out = array[indices]
    return out if len(out) > 1 else out[0]

Can not deserialize instance of java.lang.String out of START_ARRAY token

The error is:

Can not deserialize instance of java.lang.String out of START_ARRAY token at [Source: line: 1, column: 1095] (through reference chain: JsonGen["platforms"])

In JSON, platforms look like this:

"platforms": [
    {
        "platform": "iphone"
    },
    {
        "platform": "ipad"
    },
    {
        "platform": "android_phone"
    },
    {
        "platform": "android_tablet"
    }
]

So try change your pojo to something like this:

private List platforms;

public List getPlatforms(){
    return this.platforms;
}

public void setPlatforms(List platforms){
    this.platforms = platforms;
}

EDIT: you will need change mobile_networks too. Will look like this:

private List mobile_networks;

public List getMobile_networks() {
    return mobile_networks;
}

public void setMobile_networks(List mobile_networks) {
    this.mobile_networks = mobile_networks;
}

XmlSerializer: remove unnecessary xsi and xsd namespaces

There is an alternative - you can provide a member of type XmlSerializerNamespaces in the type to be serialized. Decorate it with the XmlNamespaceDeclarations attribute. Add the namespace prefixes and URIs to that member. Then, any serialization that does not explicitly provide an XmlSerializerNamespaces will use the namespace prefix+URI pairs you have put into your type.

Example code, suppose this is your type:

[XmlRoot(Namespace = "urn:mycompany.2009")]
public class Person {
  [XmlAttribute]
  public bool Known;
  [XmlElement]
  public string Name;
  [XmlNamespaceDeclarations]
  public XmlSerializerNamespaces xmlns;
}

You can do this:

var p = new Person
  {
      Name = "Charley",
      Known = false,
      xmlns = new XmlSerializerNamespaces()
  }
p.xmlns.Add("",""); // default namespace is emoty
p.xmlns.Add("c", "urn:mycompany.2009");

And that will mean that any serialization of that instance that does not specify its own set of prefix+URI pairs will use the "p" prefix for the "urn:mycompany.2009" namespace. It will also omit the xsi and xsd namespaces.

The difference here is that you are adding the XmlSerializerNamespaces to the type itself, rather than employing it explicitly on a call to XmlSerializer.Serialize(). This means that if an instance of your type is serialized by code you do not own (for example in a webservices stack), and that code does not explicitly provide a XmlSerializerNamespaces, that serializer will use the namespaces provided in the instance.

How to create jobs in SQL Server Express edition

SQL Server Express editions are limited in some ways - one way is that they don't have the SQL Agent that allows you to schedule jobs.

There are a few third-party extensions that provide that capability - check out e.g.:

How to locate the Path of the current project directory in Java (IDE)?

This is the new way to do it:

Path root = FileSystems.getDefault().getPath("").toAbsolutePath();
Path filePath = Paths.get(root.toString(),"src", "main", "resources", fileName);

Or even better:

Path root = Paths.get(".").normalize().toAbsolutePath();

But I would take it one step further:

public String getUsersProjectRootDirectory() {
    String envRootDir = System.getProperty("user.dir");
    Path rootDIr = Paths.get(".").normalize().toAbsolutePath();
    if ( rootDir.startsWith(envRootDir) ) {
        return rootDir;
    } else {
        throw new RuntimeException("Root dir not found in user directory.");
    }
}
