Android AudioRecord example

Here I am posting you the some code example which record good quality of sound using AudioRecord API.

Note: If you use in emulator the sound quality will not much good because we are using sample rate 8k which only supports in emulator. In device use sample rate to 44.1k for better quality.

Reading *.wav files in Python

I needed to read a 1-channel 24-bit WAV file. The post above by Nak was very useful. However, as mentioned above by basj 24-bit is not straightforward. I finally got it working using the following snippet:

from scipy.io import wavfile
TheFile = 'example24bit1channelFile.wav'
[fs, x] = wavfile.read(TheFile)

# convert the loaded data into a 24bit signal

nx = len(x)
ny = nx/3*4 # four 3-byte samples are contained in three int32 words

y = np.zeros((ny,), dtype=np.int32)    # initialise array

# build the data left aligned in order to keep the sign bit operational.
# result will be factor 256 too high

y[0:ny:4] = ((x[0:nx:3] & 0x000000FF) << 8) | \
  ((x[0:nx:3] & 0x0000FF00) << 8) | ((x[0:nx:3] & 0x00FF0000) << 8)
y[1:ny:4] = ((x[0:nx:3] & 0xFF000000) >> 16) | \
  ((x[1:nx:3] & 0x000000FF) << 16) | ((x[1:nx:3] & 0x0000FF00) << 16)
y[2:ny:4] = ((x[1:nx:3] & 0x00FF0000) >> 8) | \
  ((x[1:nx:3] & 0xFF000000) >> 8) | ((x[2:nx:3] & 0x000000FF) << 24)
y[3:ny:4] = (x[2:nx:3] & 0x0000FF00) | \
  (x[2:nx:3] & 0x00FF0000) | (x[2:nx:3] & 0xFF000000)

y = y/256 # correct for building 24 bit data left aligned in 32bit words

Some additional scaling is required if you need results between -1 and +1. Maybe some of you out there might find this useful

What are the differences and similarities between ffmpeg, libav, and avconv?

Confusing messages

These messages are rather misleading and understandably a source of confusion. Older Ubuntu versions used Libav which is a fork of the FFmpeg project. FFmpeg returned in Ubuntu 15.04 "Vivid Vervet".

The fork was basically a non-amicable result of conflicting personalities and development styles within the FFmpeg community. It is worth noting that the maintainer for Debian/Ubuntu switched from FFmpeg to Libav on his own accord due to being involved with the Libav fork.

The real ffmpeg vs the fake one

For a while both Libav and FFmpeg separately developed their own version of ffmpeg.

Libav then renamed their bizarro ffmpeg to avconv to distance themselves from the FFmpeg project. During the transition period the "not developed anymore" message was displayed to tell users to start using avconv instead of their counterfeit version of ffmpeg. This confused users into thinking that FFmpeg (the project) is dead, which is not true. A bad choice of words, but I can't imagine Libav not expecting such a response by general users.

This message was removed upstream when the fake "ffmpeg" was finally removed from the Libav source, but, depending on your version, it can still show up in Ubuntu because the Libav source Ubuntu uses is from the ffmpeg-to-avconv transition period.

In June 2012, the message was re-worded for the package libav - 4:0.8.3-0ubuntu0.12.04.1. Unfortunately the new "deprecated" message has caused additional user confusion.

Starting with Ubuntu 15.04 "Vivid Vervet", FFmpeg's ffmpeg is back in the repositories again.

libav vs Libav

To further complicate matters, Libav chose a name that was historically used by FFmpeg to refer to its libraries (libavcodec, libavformat, etc). For example the libav-user mailing list, for questions and discussions about using the FFmpeg libraries, is unrelated to the Libav project.

How to tell the difference

If you are using avconv then you are using Libav. If you are using ffmpeg you could be using FFmpeg or Libav. Refer to the first line in the console output to tell the difference: the copyright notice will either mention FFmpeg or Libav.

Secondly, the version numbering schemes differ. Each of the FFmpeg or Libav libraries contains a version.h header which shows a version number. FFmpeg will end in three digits, such as 57.67.100, and Libav will end in one digit such as 57.67.0. You can also view the library version numbers by running ffmpeg or avconv and viewing the console output.

If you want to use the real ffmpeg

Ubuntu 15.04 "Vivid Vervet" or newer

The real ffmpeg is in the repository, so you can install it with:

apt-get install ffmpeg

For older Ubuntu versions

Your options are:

These methods are non-intrusive, reversible, and will not interfere with the system or any repository packages.

Another possible option is to upgrade to Ubuntu 15.04 "Vivid Vervet" or newer and just use ffmpeg from the repository.

How are VST Plugins made?

Start with this link to the wiki, explains what they are and gives links to the sdk. Here is some information regarding the deve

How to compile a plugin - For making VST plugins in C++Builder, first you need the VST sdk by Steinberg. It's available from the Yvan Grabit's site (the link is at the top of the page).

The next thing you need to do is create a .def file (for example : myplugin.def). This needs to contain at least the following lines:

EXPORTS main=_main

Borland compilers add an underscore to function names, and this exports the main() function the way a VST host expects it. For more information about .def files, see the C++Builder help files.

This is not enough, though. If you're going to use any VCL element (anything to do with forms or components), you have to take care your plugin doesn't crash Cubase (or another VST host, for that matter). Here's how:

  1. Include float.h.
  2. In the constructor of your effect class, write

    _control87(PC_64|MCW_EM,MCW_PC|MCW_EM);

That should do the trick.

Play audio file from the assets directory

this works for me:

public static class eSound_Def
{
  private static Android.Media.MediaPlayer mpBeep;

  public static void InitSounds( Android.Content.Res.AssetManager Assets )
  {
    mpBeep = new Android.Media.MediaPlayer();

    InitSound_Beep( Assets );
  }

  private static void InitSound_Beep( Android.Content.Res.AssetManager Assets )
  {
    Android.Content.Res.AssetFileDescriptor AFD;

    AFD = Assets.OpenFd( "Sounds/beep-06.mp3" );
    mpBeep.SetDataSource( AFD.FileDescriptor, AFD.StartOffset, AFD.Length );
    AFD.Close();

    mpBeep.Prepare();
    mpBeep.SetVolume( 1f, 1f );
    mpBeep.Looping = false;
  }

  public static void PlaySound_Beep()
  {
    if (mpBeep.IsPlaying == true)
    {
      mpBeep.Stop();
      mpBeep.Reset();
      InitSound_Beep();
    }
    mpBeep.Start();
  }
}

In main activity, on create:

protected override void OnCreate( Bundle savedInstanceState )
{
  base.OnCreate( savedInstanceState );
  SetContentView( Resource.Layout.lmain_activity );
  ...
  eSound_Def.InitSounds( Assets );
  ...
}

how to use in code (on button click):

private void bButton_Click( object sender, EventArgs e )
{
  eSound_Def.PlaySound_Beep();
}

Python: Making a beep noise

I was searching for the same but for Linux shell.

The topic brought me to an answer, -thanks-

Maybe more pythonic manner :

import os
beep = lambda x: os.system("echo -n '\a';sleep 0.2;" * x)
beep(3)

Notes :

  • the sleep value (here 0.2), depends on the length (seconds) of your default beep sound
  • I choosed to use os.system rather then subprocess.Popen for simplicity (it could be bad)
  • the '-n' for echo is to have no more display
  • the last ';' after sleep is necessary for the resulting text sequence (*x)
  • also tested through ssh on an X term

Playing Sound In Hidden Tag

Usually, what I do is put the normal audio tag, and then put autoplay="true" and I don't add: controls ="true" and that usually works for me

I put this in a snippet and also made a jsfiddel here

Hope this helps :)

How can I make the computer beep in C#?

HTML 5 video or audio playlist

I optimized the javascript code from cameronjonesweb a little bit. Now you can just add the clips into the array. Everything else is done automatically.

<video autoplay controls id="Player" src="http://www.w3schools.com/html/movie.mp4" onclick="this.paused ? this.play() : this.pause();">Your browser does not support the video tag.</video>

<script>
var nextsrc = ["http://www.w3schools.com/html/movie.mp4","http://www.w3schools.com/html/mov_bbb.mp4"];
var elm = 0; var Player = document.getElementById('Player');
Player.onended = function(){
    if(++elm < nextsrc.length){
         Player.src = nextsrc[elm]; Player.play();
    }
}
</script>

HTML embed autoplay="false", but still plays automatically

None of the video settings posted above worked in modern browsers I tested (like Firefox) using the embed or object elements in HTML5. For video or audio elements they did stop autoplay. For embed and object they did not.

I tested this using the embed and object elements using several different media types as well as HTML attributes (like autostart and autoplay). These videos always played regardless of any combination of settings in several browsers. Again, this was not an issue using the newer HTML5 video or audio elements, just when using embed and object.

It turns out the new browser settings for video "autoplay" have changed. Firefox will now ignore the autoplay attributes on these tags and play videos anyway unless you explicitly set to "block audio and video" autoplay in your browser settings.

To do this in Firefox I have posted the settings below:

  1. Open up your Firefox Browser, click the menu button, and select "Options"
  2. Select the "Privacy & Security" panel and scroll down to the "Permissions" section
  3. Find "Autoplay" and click the "Settings" button. In the dropdown change it to block audio and video. The default is just audio.

Your videos will NOT autoplay now when displaying videos in web pages using object or embed elements.

How to play only the audio of a Youtube video using HTML 5?

Embed the video player and use CSS to hide the video. If you do it properly you may even be able to hide only the video and not the controls below it.

However, I'd recommend against it, because it will be a violation of YouTube TOS. Use your own server instead if you really want to play only audio.

How to playback MKV video in web browser?

HTML5 does not support .mkv / Matroska files but you can use this code...

<video>
    <source src="video.mkv" type="video/mp4">
</video>

But it depends on the browser as to whether it will play or not. This method is known to work with Chrome.

Play sound on button click android

Tested and working 100%

public class MainActivity extends ActionBarActivity {
    Context context = this;
    MediaPlayer mp;

    @Override
    public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
        super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
        setContentView(R.layout.main_layout);
        mp = MediaPlayer.create(context, R.raw.sound);
        final Button b = (Button) findViewById(R.id.Button);
        b.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() {
            @Override
            public void onClick(View v) {

                try {
                    if (mp.isPlaying()) {
                        mp.stop();
                        mp.release();
                        mp = MediaPlayer.create(context, R.raw.sound);

                } catch(Exception e) { e.printStackTrace(); }
            }
        });
    }
}

This was all we had to do

if (mp.isPlaying()) {
    mp.stop();
    mp.release();
    mp = MediaPlayer.create(context, R.raw.sound);
}

Autoplay audio files on an iPad with HTML5

My solution is trigger from a real touch event in a prior menu. They don't force you to use a specific player interface of course. For my purposes, this works well. If you don't have an existing interface to use, afaik you're buggered. Maybe you could try tilt events or something...

Play audio with Python

Try PySoundCard which uses PortAudio for playback which is available on many platforms. In addition, it recognizes "professional" sound devices with lots of channels.

Here a small example from the Readme:

from pysoundcard import Stream

"""Loop back five seconds of audio data."""

fs = 44100
blocksize = 16
s = Stream(samplerate=fs, blocksize=blocksize)
s.start()
for n in range(int(fs*5/blocksize)):
    s.write(s.read(blocksize))
s.stop()

Creating and playing a sound in swift

Use This Function to make sound in Swift (You can use this function where you want to make sound.)

First Add SpriteKit and AVFoundation Framework.

import SpriteKit
import AVFoundation
 func playEffectSound(filename: String){
   runAction(SKAction.playSoundFileNamed("\(filename)", waitForCompletion: false))
 }// use this function to play sound

playEffectSound("Sound File Name With Extension")
// Example :- playEffectSound("BS_SpiderWeb_CollectEgg_SFX.mp3")

html5 audio player - jquery toggle click play/pause?

Try using Javascript. Its working for me

Javascript:

var myAudioTag = document.getElementById('player_video');
myAudioTag.play();

How do I make JavaScript beep?

Using CSS you can do it if you add the following style to a tag, but you will need a wav file:

<style type="text/css">
        .beep {cue: url("beep.wav") }
</style>

var body=document.getElementByTagName("body");
body.className=body.className + " " + "beep";

Is it possible to style html5 audio tag?

Yes! The HTML5 audio tag with the "controls" attribute uses the browser's default player. You can customize it to your liking by not using the browser controls, but rolling your own controls and talking to the audio API via javascript.

Luckily, other people have already done this. My favorite player right now is jPlayer, it is very stylable and works great. Check it out.

Playing .mp3 and .wav in Java?

The easiest way I found was to download the JLayer jar file from http://www.javazoom.net/javalayer/sources.html and to add it to the Jar library http://www.wikihow.com/Add-JARs-to-Project-Build-Paths-in-Eclipse-%28Java%29

Here is the code for the class

public class SimplePlayer {

    public SimplePlayer(){

        try{

             FileInputStream fis = new FileInputStream("File location.");
             Player playMP3 = new Player(fis);

             playMP3.play();

        }  catch(Exception e){
             System.out.println(e);
           }
    }
}

and here are the imports

import javazoom.jl.player.*;
import java.io.FileInputStream;

How to prevent "The play() request was interrupted by a call to pause()" error?

here is a solution from googler blog:

Bass can do just this. Play from Byte[] in memory or a through file delegates where you return the data, so with that you can play as soon as you have enough data to start the playback..

How can I play sound in Java?

There is an alternative to importing the sound files which works in both applets and applications: convert the audio files into .java files and simply use them in your code.

I have developed a tool which makes this process a lot easier. It simplifies the Java Sound API quite a bit.

What is the best way to merge mp3 files?

If you want something free with a simple user interface that makes a completely clean mp3 I recommend MP3 Joiner.

Features:

  • Strips ID3 data (both ID3v1 and ID3v2.x) and doesn't add it's own (unlike mp3wrap)
  • Lossless joining (doesn't decode and re-encode the .mp3s). No codecs required.
  • Simple UI (see below)
  • Low memory usage (uses streams)
  • Very fast (compared to mp3wrap)
  • I wrote it :) - so you can request features and I'll add them.

Play audio as microphone input

Just as there are printer drivers that do not connect to a printer at all but rather write to a PDF file, analogously there are virtual audio drivers available that do not connect to a physical microphone at all but can pipe input from other sources such as files or other programs.

I hope I'm not breaking any rules by recommending free/donation software, but VB-Audio Virtual Cable should let you create a pair of virtual input and output audio devices. Then you could play an MP3 into the virtual output device and then set the virtual input device as your "microphone". In theory I think that should work.

If all else fails, you could always roll your own virtual audio driver. Microsoft provides some sample code but unfortunately it is not applicable to the older Windows XP audio model. There is probably sample code available for XP too.

How to add a new audio (not mixing) into a video using ffmpeg?

Code to add audio to video using ffmpeg.

If audio length is greater than video length it will cut the audio to video length. If you want full audio in video remove -shortest from the cmd.

String[] cmd = new String[]{"-i", selectedVideoPath,"-i",audiopath,"-map","1:a","-map","0:v","-codec","copy", ,outputFile.getPath()};

private void execFFmpegBinaryShortest(final String[] command) {

            final File outputFile = new File(Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory().getAbsolutePath()+"/videoaudiomerger/"+"Vid"+"output"+i1+".mp4");

            String[] cmd = new String[]{"-i", selectedVideoPath,"-i",audiopath,"-map","1:a","-map","0:v","-codec","copy","-shortest",outputFile.getPath()};

            try {

                ffmpeg.execute(cmd, new ExecuteBinaryResponseHandler() {
                    @Override
                    public void onFailure(String s) {
                        System.out.println("on failure----"+s);
                    }

                    @Override
                    public void onSuccess(String s) {
                        System.out.println("on success-----"+s);
                    }

                    @Override

                        System.out.println("Started---"+s);

                    }

                        System.out.println("Start----");

                    }

                    public void onFinish() {
                        System.out.println("Finish-----");

                    }
                });
            } catch (FFmpegCommandAlreadyRunningException e) {
                // do nothing for now
                System.out.println("exceptio :::"+e.getMessage());
            }

        }

How to play or open *.mp3 or *.wav sound file in c++ program?

First of all, write the following code:

#include <Mmsystem.h>
#include <mciapi.h>
//these two headers are already included in the <Windows.h> header
#pragma comment(lib, "Winmm.lib")

To open *.mp3:

mciSendString("open \"*.mp3\" type mpegvideo alias mp3", NULL, 0, NULL);

To play *.mp3:

mciSendString("play mp3", NULL, 0, NULL);

To play and wait until the *.mp3 has finished playing:

mciSendString("play mp3 wait", NULL, 0, NULL);

To replay (play again from start) the *.mp3:

mciSendString("play mp3 from 0", NULL, 0, NULL);

To replay and wait until the *.mp3 has finished playing:

mciSendString("play mp3 from 0 wait", NULL, 0, NULL);

To play the *.mp3 and replay it every time it ends like a loop:

mciSendString("play mp3 repeat", NULL, 0, NULL);

If you want to do something when the *.mp3 has finished playing, then you need to RegisterClassEx by the WNDCLASSEX structure, CreateWindowEx and process it's messages with the GetMessage, TranslateMessage and DispatchMessage functions in a while loop and call:

mciSendString("play mp3 notify", NULL, 0, hwnd); //hwnd is an handle to the window returned from CreateWindowEx. If this doesn't work, then replace the hwnd with MAKELONG(hwnd, 0).

In the window procedure, add the case MM_MCINOTIFY: The code in there will be executed when the mp3 has finished playing.

But if you program a Console Application and you don't deal with windows, then you can CreateThread in suspend state by specifying the CREATE_SUSPENDED flag in the dwCreationFlags parameter and keep the return value in a static variable and call it whatever you want. For instance, I call it mp3. The type of this static variable is HANDLE of course.

Here is the ThreadProc for the lpStartAddress of this thread:

DWORD WINAPI MP3Proc(_In_ LPVOID lpParameter) //lpParameter can be a pointer to a structure that store data that you cannot access outside of this function. You can prepare this structure before `CreateThread` and give it's address in the `lpParameter`
{
    Data *data = (Data*)lpParameter; //If you call this structure Data, but you can call it whatever you want.
    while (true)
    {
        mciSendString("play mp3 from 0 wait", NULL, 0, NULL);
        //Do here what you want to do when the mp3 playback is over
        SuspendThread(GetCurrentThread()); //or the handle of this thread that you keep in a static variable instead
    }
}

All what you have to do now is to ResumeThread(mp3); every time you want to replay your mp3 and something will happen every time it finishes.

You can #define play_my_mp3 ResumeThread(mp3); to make your code more readable.

Of course you can remove the while (true), SuspendThread and the from 0 codes, if you want to play your mp3 file only once and do whatever you want when it is over.

If you only remove the SuspendThread call, then the sound will play over and over again and do something whenever it is over. This is equivalent to:

mciSendString("play mp3 repeat notify", NULL, 0, hwnd); //or MAKELONG(hwnd, 0) instead

in windows.

To pause the *.mp3 in middle:

mciSendString("pause mp3", NULL, 0, NULL);

and to resume it:

mciSendString("resume mp3", NULL, 0, NULL);

To stop it in middle:

mciSendString("stop mp3", NULL, 0, NULL);

Note that you cannot resume a sound that has been stopped, but only paused, but you can replay it by carrying out the play command. When you're done playing this *.mp3, don't forget to:

mciSendString("close mp3", NULL, 0, NULL);

All these actions also apply to (work with) wave files too, but with wave files, you can use "waveaudio" instead of "mpegvideo". Also you can just play them directly without opening them:

PlaySound("*.wav", GetModuleHandle(NULL), SND_FILENAME);

If you don't want to specify an handle to a module:

sndPlaySound("*.wav", SND_FILENAME);

If you don't want to wait until the playback is over:

PlaySound("*.wav", GetModuleHandle(NULL), SND_FILENAME | SND_ASYNC);
//or
sndPlaySound("*.wav", SND_FILENAME | SND_ASYNC);

To play the wave file over and over again:

PlaySound("*.wav", GetModuleHandle(NULL), SND_FILENAME | SND_ASYNC | SND_LOOP);
//or
sndPlaySound("*.wav", SND_FILENAME | SND_ASYNC | SND_LOOP);

Note that you must specify both the SND_ASYNC and SND_LOOP flags, because you never going to wait until a sound, that repeats itself countless times, is over!

Also you can fopen the wave file and copy all it's bytes to a buffer (an enormous/huge (very big) array of bytes) with the fread function and then:

PlaySound(buffer, GetModuleHandle(NULL), SND_MEMORY);
//or
PlaySound(buffer, GetModuleHandle(NULL), SND_MEMORY | SND_ASYNC);
//or
PlaySound(buffer, GetModuleHandle(NULL), SND_MEMORY | SND_ASYNC | SND_LOOP);
//or
sndPlaySound(buffer, SND_MEMORY);
//or
sndPlaySound(buffer, SND_MEMORY | SND_ASYNC);
//or
sndPlaySound(buffer, SND_MEMORY | SND_ASYNC | SND_LOOP);

Either OpenFile or CreateFile or CreateFile2 and either ReadFile or ReadFileEx functions can be used instead of fopen and fread functions.

Hope this fully answers perfectly your question.

How to play an android notification sound

If anyone's still looking for a solution to this, I found an answer at How to play ringtone/alarm sound in Android

try {
    Uri notification = RingtoneManager.getDefaultUri(RingtoneManager.TYPE_NOTIFICATION);
    Ringtone r = RingtoneManager.getRingtone(getApplicationContext(), notification);
    r.play();
} catch (Exception e) {
    e.printStackTrace();
}

You can change TYPE_NOTIFICATION to TYPE_ALARM, but you'll want to keep track of your Ringtone r in order to stop playing it... say, when the user clicks a button or something.

Autoplay an audio with HTML5 embed tag while the player is invisible

For future reference to people who find this page later you can use:

<audio controls autoplay loop hidden>
<source src="kooche.mp3" type="audio/mpeg">
<p>If you can read this, your browser does not support the audio element.</p>
</audio>

Custom CSS for <audio> tag?

Besides the box-shadow, transform and border options mentioned in other answers, WebKit browsers currently also obey -webkit-text-fill-color to set the colour of the "time elapsed" numbers, but since there is no way to set their background (which might vary with platform, e.g. inverted high-contrast modes on some operating systems), you would be advised to set -webkit-text-fill-color to the value "initial" if you've used it elsewhere and the audio element is inheriting this, otherwise some users might find those numbers unreadable.

How to play a notification sound on websites?

One more plugin, to play notification sounds on websites: Ion.Sound

Advantages:

  • JavaScript-plugin for playing sounds based on Web Audio API with fallback to HTML5 Audio.
  • Plugin is working on most popular desktop and mobile browsers and can be used everywhere, from common web sites to browser games.
  • Audio-sprites support included.
  • No dependecies (jQuery not required).
  • 25 free sounds included.

Set up plugin:

// set up config
ion.sound({
    sounds: [
        {
            name: "my_cool_sound"
        },
        {
            name: "notify_sound",
            volume: 0.2
        },
        {
            name: "alert_sound",
            volume: 0.3,
            preload: false
        }
    ],
    volume: 0.5,
    path: "sounds/",
    preload: true
});

// And play sound!
ion.sound.play("my_cool_sound");

How to play .wav files with java

Shortest form (without having to install random libraries) ?

public static void play(String filename)
{
    try
    {
        Clip clip = AudioSystem.getClip();
        clip.open(AudioSystem.getAudioInputStream(new File(filename)));
        clip.start();
    }
    catch (Exception exc)
    {
        exc.printStackTrace(System.out);
    }
}

The only problem is there is no good way to make this method blocking to close and dispose the data after *.wav finishes. clip.drain() says it's blocking but it's not. The clip isn't running RIGHT AFTER start(). The only working but UGLY way I found is:

// ...
clip.start();
while (!clip.isRunning())
    Thread.sleep(10);
while (clip.isRunning())
    Thread.sleep(10);
clip.close();

How to play a sound in C#, .NET

To play an Audio file in the Windows form using C# let's check simple example as follows :

1.Go Visual Studio(VS-2008/2010/2012) --> File Menu --> click New Project.

2.In the New Project --> click Windows Forms Application --> Give Name and then click OK.

A new "Windows Forms" project will opens.

3.Drag-and-Drop a Button control from the Toolbox to the Windows Form.

4.Double-click the button to create automatically the default Click event handler, and add the following code.

This code displays the File Open dialog box and passes the results to a method named "playSound" that you will create in the next step.

 OpenFileDialog dialog = new OpenFileDialog();
 dialog.Filter = "Audio Files (.wav)|*.wav";

if(dialog.ShowDialog() == DialogResult.OK)
{
  string path = dialog.FileName;
  playSound(path);
}

5.Add the following method code under the button1_Click event hander.

 private void playSound(string path)
 {
   System.Media.SoundPlayer player = new System.Media.SoundPlayer();
   player.SoundLocation = path;
   player.Load();
   player.Play();
 }

6.Now let's run the application just by Pressing the F5 to run the code.

7.Click the button and select an audio file. After the file loads, the sound will play.

I hope this is useful example to beginners...

Play a Sound with Python

pyMedia's sound example does just that. This should be all you need.

import time, wave, pymedia.audio.sound as sound
f= wave.open( 'YOUR FILE NAME', 'rb' )
sampleRate= f.getframerate()
channels= f.getnchannels()
format= sound.AFMT_S16_LE
snd= sound.Output( sampleRate, channels, format )
s= f.readframes( 300000 )
snd.play( s )

Playing sound notifications using Javascript?

Using the html5 audio tag and jquery:

// appending HTML5 Audio Tag in HTML Body
$('<audio id="chatAudio">
    <source src="notify.ogg" type="audio/ogg">
    <source src="notify.mp3" type="audio/mpeg">
</audio>').appendTo('body');

// play sound
$('#chatAudio')[0].play();

Code from here.

In my implementation I added the audio embed directly into the HTML without jquery append.

What is the difference between join and merge in Pandas?

I always use join on indices:

import pandas as pd
left = pd.DataFrame({'key': ['foo', 'bar'], 'val': [1, 2]}).set_index('key')
right = pd.DataFrame({'key': ['foo', 'bar'], 'val': [4, 5]}).set_index('key')
left.join(right, lsuffix='_l', rsuffix='_r')

     val_l  val_r
key
foo      1      4
bar      2      5

The same functionality can be had by using merge on the columns follows:

left = pd.DataFrame({'key': ['foo', 'bar'], 'val': [1, 2]})
right = pd.DataFrame({'key': ['foo', 'bar'], 'val': [4, 5]})
left.merge(right, on=('key'), suffixes=('_l', '_r'))

   key  val_l  val_r
0  foo      1      4
1  bar      2      5

fatal: This operation must be run in a work tree

You repository is bare, i.e. it does not have a working tree attached to it. You can clone it locally to create a working tree for it, or you could use one of several other options to tell Git where the working tree is, e.g. the --work-tree option for single commands, or the GIT_WORK_TREE environment variable. There is also the core.worktree configuration option but it will not work in a bare repository (check the man page for what it does).

# git --work-tree=/path/to/work/tree checkout master
# GIT_WORK_TREE=/path/to/work/tree git status

Find the directory part (minus the filename) of a full path in access 97

left(currentdb.Name,instr(1,currentdb.Name,dir(currentdb.Name))-1)

The Dir function will return only the file portion of the full path. Currentdb.Name is used here, but it could be any full path string.

Forcing a postback

No, not from code behind. A postback is a request initiated from a page on the client back to itself on the server using the Http POST method. On the server side you can request a redirect but the will be Http GET request.

How to vertical align an inline-block in a line of text?

display: inline-block is your friend you just need all three parts of the construct - before, the "block", after - to be one, then you can vertically align them all to the middle:

Working Example

(it looks like your picture anyway ;))

CSS:

p, div {
  display: inline-block;
  vertical-align: middle;
}
p, div {
  display: inline !ie7; /* hack for IE7 and below */
}

table {
  background: #000;
  color: #fff;
  font-size: 16px;
  font-weight: bold; margin: 0 10px;
}

td {
  padding: 5px;
  text-align: center;
}

HTML:

<p>some text</p>
<div>
  <table summary="">
  <tr><td>A</td></tr>
  <tr><td>B</td></tr>
  <tr><td>C</td></tr>
  <tr><td>D</td></tr>
  </table>
</div>
<p>continues afterwards</p>

How to create a numpy array of all True or all False?

Quickly ran a timeit to see, if there are any differences between the np.full and np.ones version.

Answer: No

import timeit

n_array, n_test = 1000, 10000
setup = f"import numpy as np; n = {n_array};"

print(f"np.ones: {timeit.timeit('np.ones((n, n), dtype=bool)', number=n_test, setup=setup)}s")
print(f"np.full: {timeit.timeit('np.full((n, n), True)', number=n_test, setup=setup)}s")

Result:

np.ones: 0.38416870904620737s
np.full: 0.38430388597771525s

IMPORTANT

Regarding the post about np.empty (and I cannot comment, as my reputation is too low):

DON'T DO THAT. DON'T USE np.empty to initialize an all-True array

As the array is empty, the memory is not written and there is no guarantee, what your values will be, e.g.

>>> print(np.empty((4,4), dtype=bool))
[[ True  True  True  True]
 [ True  True  True  True]
 [ True  True  True  True]
 [ True  True False False]]

Get string after character

Use parameter expansion, if the value is already stored in a variable.

$ str="GenFiltEff=7.092200e-01"
$ value=${str#*=}

Or use read

$ IFS="=" read name value <<< "GenFiltEff=7.092200e-01"

Either way,

$ echo $value
7.092200e-01

Get current date in milliseconds

        NSString    *strTime = [objDateformat stringFromDate:[NSDate date]];
        NSString *strUTCTime = [self GetUTCDateTimeFromLocalTime:strTime];//You can pass your date but be carefull about your date format of NSDateFormatter.
        NSDate *objUTCDate  = [objDateformat dateFromString:strUTCTime];
        long long milliseconds = (long long)([objUTCDate timeIntervalSince1970] * 1000.0);

        NSString *strTimeStamp = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%lld",milliseconds];
        NSLog(@"The Timestamp is = %@",strTimeStamp);
    }

 - (NSString *) GetUTCDateTimeFromLocalTime:(NSString *)IN_strLocalTime
    {
        NSDateFormatter *dateFormatter = [[NSDateFormatter alloc] init];
        [dateFormatter setDateFormat:@"yyyy-MM-dd"];
        NSDate  *objDate    = [dateFormatter dateFromString:IN_strLocalTime];
        [dateFormatter setTimeZone:[NSTimeZone timeZoneWithAbbreviation:@"UTC"]];
        NSString *strDateTime   = [dateFormatter stringFromDate:objDate];
        return strDateTime;

How do I start an activity from within a Fragment?

I do it like this, to launch the SendFreeTextActivity from a (custom) menu fragment that appears in multiple activities:

In the MenuFragment class:

@Override
public View onCreateView(LayoutInflater inflater, ViewGroup container, Bundle savedInstanceState) {
    View view = inflater.inflate(R.layout.fragment_menu, container, false);

    final Button sendFreeTextButton = (Button) view.findViewById(R.id.sendFreeTextButton);
    sendFreeTextButton.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() {
        public void onClick(View v) {
            Log.d(TAG, "sendFreeTextButton clicked");
            Intent intent = new Intent(getActivity(), SendFreeTextActivity.class);
            MenuFragment.this.startActivity(intent);
        }
    });
    ...

first-child and last-child with IE8

If your table is only 2 columns across, you can easily reach the second td with the adjacent sibling selector, which IE8 does support along with :first-child:

.editor td:first-child
{
    width: 150px;
}

.editor td:first-child + td input,
.editor td:first-child + td textarea
{
    width: 500px;
    padding: 3px 5px 5px 5px;
    border: 1px solid #CCC;
}

Otherwise, you'll have to use a JS selector library like jQuery, or manually add a class to the last td, as suggested by James Allardice.

How do I draw a shadow under a UIView?

In your current code, you save the GState of the current context, configure it to draw a shadow .. and the restore it to what it was before you configured it to draw a shadow. Then, finally, you invoke the superclass's implementation of drawRect: .

Any drawing that should be affected by the shadow setting needs to happen after

CGContextSetShadow(currentContext, CGSizeMake(-15, 20), 5);

but before

CGContextRestoreGState(currentContext);

So if you want the superclass's drawRect: to be 'wrapped' in a shadow, then how about if you rearrange your code like this?

- (void)drawRect:(CGRect)rect {
    CGContextRef currentContext = UIGraphicsGetCurrentContext();
    CGContextSaveGState(currentContext);
    CGContextSetShadow(currentContext, CGSizeMake(-15, 20), 5);
    [super drawRect: rect];
    CGContextRestoreGState(currentContext);
}

Differences between MySQL and SQL Server

Everything in MySQL seems to be done closer to the metal than in MSSQL, And the documentation treats it that way. Especially for optimization, you'll need to understand how indexes, system configuration, and the optimizer interact under various circumstances.

The "optimizer" is more a parser. In MSSQL your query plan is often a surprise (usually good, sometimes not). In MySQL, it pretty much does what you asked it to do, the way you expected it to. Which means you yourself need to have a deep understanding of the various ways it might be done.

Not built around a good TRANSACTION model (default MyISAM engine).

File-system setup is your problem.

All the database configuration is your problem - especially various cache sizes.

Sometimes it seems best to think of it as an ad-hoc, glorified isam. Codd and Date don't carry much weight here. They would say it with no embarrassment.

Reset local repository branch to be just like remote repository HEAD

Only 3 commands will make it work

git fetch origin
git reset --hard origin/HEAD
git clean -f

Found a swap file by the name

I've also had this error when trying to pull the changes into a branch which is not created from the upstream branch from which I'm trying to pull.

Eg - This creates a new branch matching night-version of upstream

git checkout upstream/night-version -b testnightversion

This creates a branch testmaster in local which matches the master branch of upstream.

git checkout upstream/master -b testmaster

Now if I try to pull the changes of night-version into testmaster branch leads to this error.

git pull upstream night-version //while I'm in `master` cloned branch

I managed to solve this by navigating to proper branch and pull the changes.

git checkout testnightversion
git pull upstream night-version // works fine.

php mail setup in xampp

Unless you have a mail server set up on your local computer, setting SMTP = localhost won't have any effect.

In days gone by (long ago), it was sufficient to set the value of SMTP to the address of your ISP's SMTP server. This now rarely works because most ISPs insist on authentication with a username and password. However, the PHP mail() function doesn't support SMTP authentication. It's designed to work directly with the mail transport agent of the local server.

You either need to set up a local mail server or to use a PHP classs that supports SMTP authentication, such as Zend_Mail or PHPMailer. The simplest solution, however, is to upload your mail processing script to your remote server.

Doctrine findBy 'does not equal'

Based on the answer from Luis, you can do something more like the default findBy method.

First, create a default repository class that is going to be used by all your entities.

/* $config is the entity manager configuration object. */
$config->setDefaultRepositoryClassName( 'MyCompany\Repository' );

Or you can edit this in config.yml

doctrine: orm: default_repository_class: MyCompany\Repository

Then:

<?php

namespace MyCompany;

use Doctrine\ORM\EntityRepository;

class Repository extends EntityRepository {

    public function findByNot( array $criteria, array $orderBy = null, $limit = null, $offset = null )
    {
        $qb = $this->getEntityManager()->createQueryBuilder();
        $expr = $this->getEntityManager()->getExpressionBuilder();

        $qb->select( 'entity' )
            ->from( $this->getEntityName(), 'entity' );

        foreach ( $criteria as $field => $value ) {
            // IF INTEGER neq, IF NOT notLike
            if($this->getEntityManager()->getClassMetadata($this->getEntityName())->getFieldMapping($field)["type"]=="integer") {
                $qb->andWhere( $expr->neq( 'entity.' . $field, $value ) );
            } else {
                $qb->andWhere( $expr->notLike( 'entity.' . $field, $qb->expr()->literal($value) ) );
            }
        }

        if ( $orderBy ) {

            foreach ( $orderBy as $field => $order ) {

                $qb->addOrderBy( 'entity.' . $field, $order );
            }
        }

        if ( $limit )
            $qb->setMaxResults( $limit );

        if ( $offset )
            $qb->setFirstResult( $offset );

        return $qb->getQuery()
            ->getResult();
    }

}

The usage is the same than the findBy method, example:

$entityManager->getRepository( 'MyRepo' )->findByNot(
    array( 'status' => Status::STATUS_DISABLED )
);

How to add to an existing hash in Ruby

If you have a hash, you can add items to it by referencing them by key:

hash = { }
hash[:a] = 'a'
hash[:a]
# => 'a'

Here, like [ ] creates an empty array, { } will create a empty hash.

Arrays have zero or more elements in a specific order, where elements may be duplicated. Hashes have zero or more elements organized by key, where keys may not be duplicated but the values stored in those positions can be.

Hashes in Ruby are very flexible and can have keys of nearly any type you can throw at it. This makes it different from the dictionary structures you find in other languages.

It's important to keep in mind that the specific nature of a key of a hash often matters:

hash = { :a => 'a' }

# Fetch with Symbol :a finds the right value
hash[:a]
# => 'a'

# Fetch with the String 'a' finds nothing
hash['a']
# => nil

# Assignment with the key :b adds a new entry
hash[:b] = 'Bee'

# This is then available immediately
hash[:b]
# => "Bee"

# The hash now contains both keys
hash
# => { :a => 'a', :b => 'Bee' }

Ruby on Rails confuses this somewhat by providing HashWithIndifferentAccess where it will convert freely between Symbol and String methods of addressing.

You can also index on nearly anything, including classes, numbers, or other Hashes.

hash = { Object => true, Hash => false }

hash[Object]
# => true

hash[Hash]
# => false

hash[Array]
# => nil

Hashes can be converted to Arrays and vice-versa:

# Like many things, Hash supports .to_a
{ :a => 'a' }.to_a
# => [[:a, "a"]]

# Hash also has a handy Hash[] method to create new hashes from arrays
Hash[[[:a, "a"]]]
# => {:a=>"a"}

When it comes to "inserting" things into a Hash you may do it one at a time, or use the merge method to combine hashes:

{ :a => 'a' }.merge(:b => 'b')
# {:a=>'a',:b=>'b'}

Note that this does not alter the original hash, but instead returns a new one. If you want to combine one hash into another, you can use the merge! method:

hash = { :a => 'a' }

# Returns the result of hash combined with a new hash, but does not alter
# the original hash.
hash.merge(:b => 'b')
# => {:a=>'a',:b=>'b'}

# Nothing has been altered in the original
hash
# => {:a=>'a'}

# Combine the two hashes and store the result in the original
hash.merge!(:b => 'b')
# => {:a=>'a',:b=>'b'}

# Hash has now been altered
hash
# => {:a=>'a',:b=>'b'}

Like many methods on String and Array, the ! indicates that it is an in-place operation.

How can I ignore a property when serializing using the DataContractSerializer?

In XML Serializing, you can use the [XmlIgnore] attribute (System.Xml.Serialization.XmlIgnoreAttribute) to ignore a property when serializing a class.

This may be of use to you (Or it just may be of use to anyone who found this question when attempting to find out how to ignore a property when Serializing in XML, as I was).

REST response code for invalid data

If the request could not be correctly parsed (including the request entity/body) the appropriate response is 400 Bad Request [1].

RFC 4918 states that 422 Unprocessable Entity is applicable when the request entity is syntactically well-formed, but semantically erroneous. So if the request entity is garbled (like a bad email format) use 400; but if it just doesn't make sense (like @example.com) use 422.

If the issue is that, as stated in the question, user name/email already exists, you could use 409 Conflict [2] with a description of the conflict, and a hint about how to fix it (in this case, "pick a different user name/email"). However in the spec as written, 403 Forbidden [3] can also be used in this case, arguments about HTTP Authorization notwithstanding.

412 Precondition Failed [4] is used when a precondition request header (e.g. If-Match) that was supplied by the client evaluates to false. That is, the client requested something and supplied preconditions, knowing full well that those preconditions might fail. 412 should never be sprung on the client out of the blue, and shouldn't be related to the request entity per se.

How do I output coloured text to a Linux terminal?

Basics

I have written a C++ class which can be used to set the foreground and background color of output. This sample program serves as an example of printing This ->word<- is red. and formatting it so that the foreground color of word is red.

#include "colormod.h" // namespace Color
#include <iostream>
using namespace std;
int main() {
    Color::Modifier red(Color::FG_RED);
    Color::Modifier def(Color::FG_DEFAULT);
    cout << "This ->" << red << "word" << def << "<- is red." << endl;
}

Source

#include <ostream>
namespace Color {
    enum Code {
        FG_RED      = 31,
        FG_GREEN    = 32,
        FG_BLUE     = 34,
        FG_DEFAULT  = 39,
        BG_RED      = 41,
        BG_GREEN    = 42,
        BG_BLUE     = 44,
        BG_DEFAULT  = 49
    };
    class Modifier {
        Code code;
    public:
        Modifier(Code pCode) : code(pCode) {}
        friend std::ostream&
        operator<<(std::ostream& os, const Modifier& mod) {
            return os << "\033[" << mod.code << "m";
        }
    };
}

Advanced

You may want to add additional features to the class. It is, for example, possible to add the color magenta and even styles like boldface. To do this, just an another entry to the Code enumeration. This is a good reference.

Awaiting multiple Tasks with different results

After you use WhenAll, you can pull the results out individually with await:

var catTask = FeedCat();
var houseTask = SellHouse();
var carTask = BuyCar();

await Task.WhenAll(catTask, houseTask, carTask);

var cat = await catTask;
var house = await houseTask;
var car = await carTask;

You can also use Task.Result (since you know by this point they have all completed successfully). However, I recommend using await because it's clearly correct, while Result can cause problems in other scenarios.

<ng-container> vs <template>

Edit : Now it is documented

<ng-container> to the rescue

The Angular <ng-container> is a grouping element that doesn't interfere with styles or layout because Angular doesn't put it in the DOM.

(...)

The <ng-container> is a syntax element recognized by the Angular parser. It's not a directive, component, class, or interface. It's more like the curly braces in a JavaScript if-block:

  if (someCondition) {
      statement1;
      statement2;
      statement3;
     }

Without those braces, JavaScript would only execute the first statement when you intend to conditionally execute all of them as a single block. The <ng-container> satisfies a similar need in Angular templates.

Original answer:

According to this pull request :

<ng-container> is a logical container that can be used to group nodes but is not rendered in the DOM tree as a node.

<ng-container> is rendered as an HTML comment.

so this angular template :

<div>
    <ng-container>foo</ng-container>
<div>

will produce this kind of output :

<div>
    <!--template bindings={}-->foo
<div>

So ng-container is useful when you want to conditionaly append a group of elements (ie using *ngIf="foo") in your application but don't want to wrap them with another element.

<div>
    <ng-container *ngIf="true">
        <h2>Title</h2>
        <div>Content</div>
    </ng-container>
</div>

will then produce :

<div>
    <h2>Title</h2>
    <div>Content</div>
</div>

How to git clone a specific tag

Cloning a specific tag, might return 'detached HEAD' state.

As a workaround, try to clone the repo first, and then checkout a specific tag. For example:

repo_url=https://github.com/owner/project.git
repo_dir=$(basename $repo_url .git)
repo_tag=0.5

git clone --single-branch $repo_url # using --depth 1 can show no tags
git --work-tree=$repo_dir --git-dir=$repo_dir/.git checkout tags/$repo_tag

Note: Since Git 1.8.5, you can use -C <path>, instead of --work-tree and --git-dir.

AngularJS - Create a directive that uses ng-model

You only need ng-model when you need to access the model's $viewValue or $modelValue. See NgModelController. And in that case, you would use require: '^ngModel'.

For the rest, see Roys answer.

How to access cookies in AngularJS?

The original accepted answer mentions jquery.cookie plugin. A few months ago though, it was renamed to js-cookie and the jQuery dependency removed. One of the reasons was just to make it easy to integrate with other frameworks, like Angular.

Now, if you want to integrate js-cookie with angular, it is as easy as something like:

module.factory( "cookies", function() {
  return Cookies.noConflict();
});

And that's it. No jQuery. No ngCookies.

You can also create custom instances to handle specific server-side cookies that are written differently. Take for example PHP, that convert the spaces in the server-side to a plus sign + instead of also percent-encode it:

module.factory( "phpCookies", function() {
  return Cookies
    .noConflict()
    .withConverter(function( value, name ) {
      return value
            // Decode all characters according to the "encodeURIComponent" spec
            .replace(/(%[0-9A-Z]{2})+/g, decodeURIComponent)
            // Decode the plus sign to spaces
            .replace(/\+/g, ' ')
    });
});

The usage for a custom Provider would be something like this:

module.service( "customDataStore", [ "phpCookies", function( phpCookies ) {
  this.storeData = function( data ) {
    phpCookies.set( "data", data );
  };
  this.containsStoredData = function() {
    return phpCookies.get( "data" );
  }
}]);

I hope this helps anyone.

See detailed info in this issue: https://github.com/js-cookie/js-cookie/issues/103

For detailed docs on how to integrate with server-side, see here: https://github.com/js-cookie/js-cookie/blob/master/SERVER_SIDE.md

Explicitly calling return in a function or not

The argument of redundancy has come up a lot here. In my opinion that is not reason enough to omit return(). Redundancy is not automatically a bad thing. When used strategically, redundancy makes code clearer and more maintenable.

Consider this example: Function parameters often have default values. So specifying a value that is the same as the default is redundant. Except it makes obvious the behaviour I expect. No need to pull up the function manpage to remind myself what the defaults are. And no worry about a future version of the function changing its defaults.

With a negligible performance penalty for calling return() (as per the benchmarks posted here by others) it comes down to style rather than right and wrong. For something to be "wrong", there needs to be a clear disadvantage, and nobody here has demonstrated satisfactorily that including or omitting return() has a consistent disadvantage. It seems very case-specific and user-specific.

So here is where I stand on this.

function(){
  #do stuff
  ...
  abcd
}

I am uncomfortable with "orphan" variables like in the example above. Was abcd going to be part of a statement I didn't finish writing? Is it a remnant of a splice/edit in my code and needs to be deleted? Did I accidentally paste/move something from somewhere else?

function(){
  #do stuff
  ...
  return(abdc)
}

By contrast, this second example makes it obvious to me that it is an intended return value, rather than some accident or incomplete code. For me this redundancy is absolutely not useless.

Of course, once the function is finished and working I could remove the return. But removing it is in itself a redundant extra step, and in my view more useless than including return() in the first place.

All that said, I do not use return() in short unnamed one-liner functions. There it makes up a large fraction of the function's code and therefore mostly causes visual clutter that makes code less legible. But for larger formally defined and named functions, I use it and will likely continue to so.

Resolve absolute path from relative path and/or file name

I have not seen many solutions to this problem. Some solutions make use of directory traversal using CD and others make use of batch functions. My personal preference has been for batch functions and in particular, the MakeAbsolute function as provided by DosTips.

The function has some real benefits, primarily that it does not change your current working directory and secondly that the paths being evaluated don't even have to exist. You can find some helpful tips on how to use the function here too.

Here is an example script and its outputs:

@echo off

set scriptpath=%~dp0
set siblingfile=sibling.bat
set siblingfolder=sibling\
set fnwsfolder=folder name with spaces\
set descendantfolder=sibling\descendant\
set ancestorfolder=..\..\
set cousinfolder=..\uncle\cousin

call:MakeAbsolute siblingfile      "%scriptpath%"
call:MakeAbsolute siblingfolder    "%scriptpath%"
call:MakeAbsolute fnwsfolder       "%scriptpath%"
call:MakeAbsolute descendantfolder "%scriptpath%"
call:MakeAbsolute ancestorfolder   "%scriptpath%"
call:MakeAbsolute cousinfolder     "%scriptpath%"

echo scriptpath:       %scriptpath%
echo siblingfile:      %siblingfile%
echo siblingfolder:    %siblingfolder%
echo fnwsfolder:       %fnwsfolder%
echo descendantfolder: %descendantfolder%
echo ancestorfolder:   %ancestorfolder%
echo cousinfolder:     %cousinfolder%
GOTO:EOF

And the output:

How to remove the Flutter debug banner?

You can give simply hide this by giving a boolean parameter-----> debugShowCheckedModeBanner: false,

void main() {
  Bloc.observer = SimpleBlocDelegate();

  runApp(MyApp());
}

class MyApp extends StatelessWidget {
  // This widget is the root of your application.
  @override
  Widget build(BuildContext context) {
    return MaterialApp(
      debugShowCheckedModeBanner: false,
      title: 'Prescription Writing Software',
      theme: ThemeData(
        primarySwatch: Colors.blue,
        scaffoldBackgroundColor: Colors.white,
        visualDensity: VisualDensity.adaptivePlatformDensity,
      ),
      home: SplashScreen(),
    );
  }
}

git - Your branch is ahead of 'origin/master' by 1 commit

git reset HEAD^

then the modified files should show up.

You could move the modified files into a new branch

use,

git checkout -b newbranch

git checkout commit -m "files modified"

git push origin newbranch

git checkout master

then you should be on a clean branch, and your changes should be stored in newbranch. You could later just merge this change into the master branch

How to get the first item from an associative PHP array?

You can try this.

To get first value of the array :-

<?php
   $large_array = array('foo' => 'bar', 'hello' => 'world');
   var_dump(current($large_array));
?>

To get the first key of the array

<?php
   $large_array = array('foo' => 'bar', 'hello' => 'world');
   $large_array_keys = array_keys($large_array);
   var_dump(array_shift($large_array_keys));

python filter list of dictionaries based on key value

You can try a list comp

>>> exampleSet = [{'type':'type1'},{'type':'type2'},{'type':'type2'}, {'type':'type3'}]

>>> expectedResult = [d for d in exampleSet if d['type'] in keyValList]
>>> expectedResult
[{'type': 'type2'}, {'type': 'type2'}, {'type': 'type3'}]

Another way is by using filter

>>> list(filter(lambda d: d['type'] in keyValList, exampleSet))
[{'type': 'type2'}, {'type': 'type2'}, {'type': 'type3'}]

How to add a class to a given element?

In my case, I had more than one class called main-wrapper in the DOM, but I only wanted to affect the parent main-wrapper. Using :first Selector (https://api.jquery.com/first-selector/), I could select the first matched DOM element. This was the solution for me:

$(document).ready( function() {
    $('.main-wrapper:first').addClass('homepage-redesign');
    $('#deals-index > div:eq(0) > div:eq(1)').addClass('doubleheaderredesign');
} );

I also did the same thing for the second children of a specific div in my DOM as you can see in the code where I used $('#deals-index > div:eq(0) > div:eq(1)').addClass('doubleheaderredesign');.

NOTE: I used jQuery as you can see.

How to mock static methods in c# using MOQ framework?

As mentioned in the other answers MOQ cannot mock static methods and, as a general rule, one should avoid statics where possible.

Sometimes it is not possible. One is working with legacy or 3rd party code or with even with the BCL methods that are static.

A possible solution is to wrap the static in a proxy with an interface which can be mocked

    public interface IFileProxy {
        void Delete(string path);
    }

    public class FileProxy : IFileProxy {
        public void Delete(string path) {
            System.IO.File.Delete(path);
        }
    }

    public class MyClass {

        private IFileProxy _fileProxy;

        public MyClass(IFileProxy fileProxy) {
            _fileProxy = fileProxy;
        }

        public void DoSomethingAndDeleteFile(string path) {
            // Do Something with file
            // ...
            // Delete
            System.IO.File.Delete(path);
        }

        public void DoSomethingAndDeleteFileUsingProxy(string path) {
            // Do Something with file
            // ...
            // Delete
            _fileProxy.Delete(path);

        }
    }

The downside is that the ctor can become very cluttered if there are a lot of proxies (though it could be argued that if there are a lot of proxies then the class may be trying to do too much and could be refactored)

Another possibility is to have a 'static proxy' with different implementations of the interface behind it

   public static class FileServices {

        static FileServices() {
            Reset();
        }

        internal static IFileProxy FileProxy { private get; set; }

        public static void Reset(){
           FileProxy = new FileProxy();
        }

        public static void Delete(string path) {
            FileProxy.Delete(path);
        }

    }

Our method now becomes

    public void DoSomethingAndDeleteFileUsingStaticProxy(string path) {
            // Do Something with file
            // ...
            // Delete
            FileServices.Delete(path);

    }

For testing, we can set the FileProxy property to our mock. Using this style reduces the number of interfaces to be injected but makes dependencies a bit less obvious (though no more so than the original static calls I suppose).

How do I make a Git commit in the past?

The following is what I use to commit changes on foo to N=1 days in the past:

git add foo
git commit -m "Update foo"
git commit --amend --date="$(date -v-1d)"

If you want to commit to a even older date, say 3 days back, just change the date argument: date -v-3d.

That's really useful when you forget to commit something yesterday, for instance.

UPDATE: --date also accepts expressions like --date "3 days ago" or even --date "yesterday". So we can reduce it to one line command:

git add foo ; git commit --date "yesterday" -m "Update"

Turn off axes in subplots

You can turn the axes off by following the advice in Veedrac's comment (linking to here) with one small modification.

Rather than using plt.axis('off') you should use ax.axis('off') where ax is a matplotlib.axes object. To do this for your code you simple need to add axarr[0,0].axis('off') and so on for each of your subplots.

The code below shows the result (I've removed the prune_matrix part because I don't have access to that function, in the future please submit fully working code.)

import matplotlib.pyplot as plt
import matplotlib.image as mpimg
import matplotlib.cm as cm

img = mpimg.imread("stewie.jpg")

f, axarr = plt.subplots(2, 2)
axarr[0,0].imshow(img, cmap = cm.Greys_r)
axarr[0,0].set_title("Rank = 512")
axarr[0,0].axis('off')

axarr[0,1].imshow(img, cmap = cm.Greys_r)
axarr[0,1].set_title("Rank = %s" % 128)
axarr[0,1].axis('off')

axarr[1,0].imshow(img, cmap = cm.Greys_r)
axarr[1,0].set_title("Rank = %s" % 32)
axarr[1,0].axis('off')

axarr[1,1].imshow(img, cmap = cm.Greys_r)
axarr[1,1].set_title("Rank = %s" % 16)
axarr[1,1].axis('off')

plt.show()

Stewie example

Note: To turn off only the x or y axis you can use set_visible() e.g.:

axarr[0,0].xaxis.set_visible(False) # Hide only x axis

How to set default vim colorscheme

What was asked for was to set:

  • the 'default', not some other color profile, and

  • 'for all vim sessions', not simply for the current user.

The default colorscheme, "for all vim sessions", is not set simply by adding a line to your ~/.vimrc, as all of the other answers here say, nor is the default set without the word 'default' being there.

So all of the other answers here, so far, get both of these wrong. (lol, how did that happen?)

The correct answer is:

Add a line to your system vim setup file in /etc/vim/ that says

colorscheme default

or using the abbreviation

colo default

but not capitalized as

colo Default

(I suggest using the full, un-abbreviated term 'colorscheme', so that when you look at this years later you'll be able to more easily figure out what that darn thing does. I would also put a comment above it like "Use default colors for vim".)

To append that correctly, first look at your /etc/vim/vimrc file.

At the bottom of mine, I see these lines which include /etc/vim/vimrc.local:

" Source a global configuration file if available
if filereadable("/etc/vim/vimrc.local")
  source /etc/vim/vimrc.local
endif

So you can append this line to either of these two files.

I think the best solution is to append your line to /etc/vim/vimrc.local like this:

colorscheme default

You can easily do that in bash with this line:

$ echo -e "\"Use default colors for vim:\ncolorscheme default"  \
   |  sudo tee -a /etc/vim/vimrc.local

#
#     NOTE:  This doesn't work:
#
#       $ sudo echo 'colorscheme default'  >> /etc/vim/vimrc.local
#
# It's the same general idea, and simpler, but because sudo doesn't
# know how to handle pipes, it fails with a `Permission denied` error.

Also check that you have permission to globally read this file:

sudo chmod 644 /etc/vim/vimrc.local

With $ tail /etc/vim/vimrc.local you should now see these lines:

"Use default colors for vim:
colorscheme default

Setting a spinner onClickListener() in Android

Here is a working solution:

Instead of setting the spinner's OnClickListener, we are setting OnTouchListener and OnKeyListener.

spinner.setOnTouchListener(Spinner_OnTouch);
spinner.setOnKeyListener(Spinner_OnKey);

and the listeners:

private View.OnTouchListener Spinner_OnTouch = new View.OnTouchListener() {
    public boolean onTouch(View v, MotionEvent event) {
        if (event.getAction() == MotionEvent.ACTION_UP) {
            doWhatYouWantHere();
        }
        return true;
    }
};
private static View.OnKeyListener Spinner_OnKey = new View.OnKeyListener() {
    public boolean onKey(View v, int keyCode, KeyEvent event) {
        if (keyCode == KeyEvent.KEYCODE_DPAD_CENTER) {
            doWhatYouWantHere();
            return true;
        } else {
            return false;
        }

SQL query to select dates between two dates

select * from table_name where col_Date between '2011/02/25'
AND DATEADD(s,-1,DATEADD(d,1,'2011/02/27'))

Here, first add a day to the current endDate, it will be 2011-02-28 00:00:00, then you subtract one second to make the end date 2011-02-27 23:59:59. By doing this, you can get all the dates between the given intervals.

output:
2011/02/25
2011/02/26
2011/02/27

How To Use DateTimePicker In WPF?

Please Note: The following answer only applied to WPF under the 3.5 Framework as NET 4.0 runtime has it's own datetime control.

By default WPF 3.5 does not come with a date time picker like winforms.

However a date picker has been added in the WPF tool kit produced by Microsoft which can be downloaded here. I guess it will become part of the framework in a future release.

It is simple to add a reference to the WPFToolkit.dll, see it in the tool box and distribute with your application by following the instructions on the website.

Before this was available other people had created 3rd party pickers (which you may prefer) or alternatively used the less ideal solution of using the winforms control in a WPF application.

Update: This so question is very similar this one which also has a link to a walk through for the datepicker along with other links.

run main class of Maven project

Try the maven-exec-plugin. From there:

mvn exec:java -Dexec.mainClass="com.example.Main"

This will run your class in the JVM. You can use -Dexec.args="arg0 arg1" to pass arguments.

If you're on Windows, apply quotes for exec.mainClass and exec.args:

mvn exec:java -D"exec.mainClass"="com.example.Main"

If you're doing this regularly, you can add the parameters into the pom.xml as well:

<plugin>
  <groupId>org.codehaus.mojo</groupId>
  <artifactId>exec-maven-plugin</artifactId>
  <version>1.2.1</version>
  <executions>

Advantage of switch over if-else statement

I would pick the if statement for the sake of clarity and convention, although I'm sure that some would disagree. After all, you are wanting to do something if some condition is true! Having a switch with one action seems a little... unneccesary.

Split code over multiple lines in an R script

You are not breaking code over multiple lines, but rather a single identifier. There is a difference.

For your issue, try

R> setwd(paste("~/a/very/long/path/here",
               "/and/then/some/more",
               "/and/then/some/more",
               "/and/then/some/more", sep=""))

which also illustrates that it is perfectly fine to break code across multiple lines.

Multiple axis line chart in excel

An alternative is to normalize the data. Below are three sets of data with widely varying ranges. In the top chart you can see the variation in one series clearly, in another not so clearly, and the third not at all.

In the second range, I have adjusted the series names to include the data range, using this formula in cell C15 and copying it to D15:E15

=C2&" ("&MIN(C3:C9)&" to "&MAX(C3:C9)&")"

I have normalized the values in the data range using this formula in C15 and copying it to the entire range C16:E22

=100*(C3-MIN(C$3:C$9))/(MAX(C$3:C$9)-MIN(C$3:C$9))

In the second chart, you can see a pattern: all series have a low in January, rising to a high in March, and dropping to medium-low value in June or July.

You can modify the normalizing formula however you need:

=100*C3/MAX(C$3:C$9)

=C3/MAX(C$3:C$9)

=(C3-AVERAGE(C$3:C$9))/STDEV(C$3:C$9)

etc.

API Gateway CORS: no 'Access-Control-Allow-Origin' header

I got mine working after I realised that the lambda authoriser was failing and for some unknown reason that was being translated into a CORS error. A simple fix to my authoriser (and some authoriser tests that I should have added in the first place) and it worked. For me the API Gateway action 'Enable CORS' was required. This added all the headers and other settings I needed in my API.

How to dynamically create columns in datatable and assign values to it?

What have you tried, what was the problem?

Creating DataColumns and add values to a DataTable is straight forward:

Dim dt = New DataTable()
Dim dcID = New DataColumn("ID", GetType(Int32))
Dim dcName = New DataColumn("Name", GetType(String))
dt.Columns.Add(dcID)
dt.Columns.Add(dcName)
For i = 1 To 1000
    dt.Rows.Add(i, "Row #" & i)
Next

Edit:

If you want to read a xml file and load a DataTable from it, you can use DataTable.ReadXml.

Refresh DataGridView when updating data source

The cleanest, most efficient and paradigm-friendly solution in this case is to use a System.Windows.Forms.BindingSource as a proxy between your list of items (datasource) and your DataGridView:

var itemStates = new List<ItemState>();
var bindingSource1 = new System.Windows.Forms.BindingSource { DataSource = itemStates };
dataGridView1.DataSource = bindingSource1;

Then, when adding items, use Add() method of BindingSource instead of your list's Add() method:

for (var i = 0; i < 10; i++)
{
    bindingSource1.Add(new ItemState { Id = i.ToString() });
    System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(500);
}

This way you adding items to your list and notifying DataGridView about those additions with the same line of code. No need to reset DataGridView's DataSource every time you make a change to the list.

It also worth mentioning that you can drop a BindingSource onto your form directly in Visual Studio's Forms Designer and attach it as a data source to your DataGridView there as well, which saves you a line of code in the above example where I'm doing it manually.

How to redirect to logon page when session State time out is completed in asp.net mvc

There is a generic solution:

Lets say you have a controller named Admin where you put content for authorized users.

Then, you can override the Initialize or OnAuthorization methods of Admin controller and write redirect to login page logic on session timeout in these methods as described:

protected override void OnAuthorization(System.Web.Mvc.AuthorizationContext filterContext)
    {
        //lets say you set session value to a positive integer
        AdminLoginType = Convert.ToInt32(filterContext.HttpContext.Session["AdminLoginType"]);
        if (AdminLoginType == 0)
        {
            filterContext.HttpContext.Response.Redirect("~/login");
        }

        base.OnAuthorization(filterContext);
    }

The answer by @GordonM is good. But it would fail if the $string is already true (ie, the string isn't a string but boolean TRUE)...which seems illogical.

libclntsh.so.11.1: cannot open shared object file.

I ran into this same problem last weekend when I needed to use cx_Oracle. After spending a lot of time trying to modify the LD_LIBRARY_PATH variable to include the $ORACLE_HOME/lib directoy, where libclntsh.so resides, I ended up solving the problem by creating symbolic links from all the Oracle xlibx.so libraries into /lib/xlibx.so. This certainly isn't the "cleanest" solution, but it has a good chance of working without causing too much trouble:

 cd $ORACLE_HOME/lib
 for f in `ls ./*.so*`; do;
   sudo ln -s $ORACLE_HOME/lib/$f /lib/$f
 done

After I did that, cx_Oracle worked like a charm.

Jenkins CI Pipeline Scripts not permitted to use method groovy.lang.GroovyObject

Quickfix

I had similar issue and I resolved it doing the following

  1. Navigate to jenkins > Manage jenkins > In-process Script Approval
  2. There was a pending command, which I had to approve.

In process approval link in Jenkins 2.61 Alternative 1: Disable sandbox

As this article explains in depth, groovy scripts are run in sandbox mode by default. This means that a subset of groovy methods are allowed to run without administrator approval. It's also possible to run scripts not in sandbox mode, which implies that the whole script needs to be approved by an administrator at once. This preventing users from approving each line at the time.

Running scripts without sandbox can be done by unchecking this checkbox in your project config just below your script: enter image description here

Alternative 2: Disable script security

As this article explains it also possible to disable script security completely. First install the permissive script security plugin and after that change your jenkins.xml file add this argument:

-Dpermissive-script-security.enabled=true

So you jenkins.xml will look something like this:

<executable>..bin\java</executable>
<arguments>-Dpermissive-script-security.enabled=true -Xrs -Xmx4096m -Dhudson.lifecycle=hudson.lifecycle.WindowsServiceLifecycle -jar "%BASE%\jenkins.war" --httpPort=80 --webroot="%BASE%\war"</arguments>

Make sure you know what you are doing if you implement this!

What is the difference between XAMPP or WAMP Server & IIS?

WAMP stands for Windows,Apache,Mysql,Php

XAMPP stands for X-os,Apache,Mysql,Php,Perl. (x-os means it can use for any operating system)

Advantages of XAMPP:

  • It is cross-platform software

  • It possesses many other essential modules such as phpMyAdmin, OpenSSL, MediaWiki, WordPress, Joomla and more.

  • it is easy to configure and use.

Advantages of WAMP:

  • It is easy to Use. (Changing Configuration)

  • WAMP is Available for both 64 bit and 32-bit system.

if you are running projects which have specific version requirements WAMP is better choice because you can switch between multiple versions. for example 7x and PHP 5x or Magento2.2.4 won't work on php7.2 but Magento2.3.needs php7.2 or up to work.

i suggest using laragon :

Laragon works out of the box with not only MySQL/MariaDB but also PostgreSQL & MongoDB. With Laragon, they are portable & reliable so you can focus on what matters Laragon is a portable, isolated, fast & powerful universal development environment for PHP, Node.js, Python, Java, Go, Ruby. It is fast, lightweight, easy-to-use and easy-to-extend.

Laragon is great for building and managing modern web applications. It is focused on performance - designed around stability, simplicity, flexibility and freedom.

Laragon is very lightweight and will stay as lean as possible. The core binary itself is less than 2MB and uses less than 4MB RAM when running.

Laragon doesn’t use Windows services. It has its own service orchestration which manages services asynchronously and non-blocking so you’ll find things run fast & smoothly with Laragon.

Include CSS,javascript file in Yii Framework

If you are using Theme then you can the below Syntax

Yii::app()->theme->baseUrl

include CSS File :

<link href="<?php echo Yii::app()->theme->baseUrl;?>/css/bootstrap.css" type="text/css" rel="stylesheet" media="all">

Include JS File

<script src="<?php echo Yii::app()->theme->baseUrl;?>/js/jquery-2.2.3.min.js"></script>

If you are not using theme

Yii::app()->request->baseUrl

Use Like this

<link href="<?php echo Yii::app()->request->baseUrl; ?>/css/bootstrap.css" type="text/css" rel="stylesheet" media="all">
<script src="<?php echo Yii::app()->request->baseUrl; ?>/js/jquery-2.2.3.min.js"></script>

Get css top value as number not as string?

You can use the parseInt() function to convert the string to a number, e.g:

parseInt($('#elem').css('top'));

Update: (as suggested by Ben): You should give the radix too:

parseInt($('#elem').css('top'), 10);

Forces it to be parsed as a decimal number, otherwise strings beginning with '0' might be parsed as an octal number (might depend on the browser used).

Change CSS class properties with jQuery

You can't change CSS properties directly with jQuery. But you can achieve the same effect in at least two ways.

Dynamically Load CSS from a File

function updateStyleSheet(filename) {
    newstylesheet = "style_" + filename + ".css";

    if ($("#dynamic_css").length == 0) {
        $("head").append("<link>")
        css = $("head").children(":last");

        css.attr({
          id: "dynamic_css",
          rel:  "stylesheet",
          type: "text/css",
          href: newstylesheet
        });
    } else {
        $("#dynamic_css").attr("href",newstylesheet);
    }
}

The example above is copied from:

Dynamically Add a Style Element

$("head").append('<style type="text/css"></style>');
var newStyleElement = $("head").children(':last');
newStyleElement.html('.red{background:green;}');

The example code is copied from this JSFiddle fiddle originally referenced by Alvaro in their comment.

Eclipse Intellisense?

I once had the same problem, and then I searched and found this and it worked for me:

I had got some of the boxes unchecked, so I checked them again, then it worked. Just go to

Windows > Preferences > Java > Editor > Content Assist > Advanced

and check the boxes which you want .

Good Hash Function for Strings

Guava's HashFunction (javadoc) provides decent non-crypto-strong hashing.

Count distinct value pairs in multiple columns in SQL

To get a count of the number of unique combinations of id, name and address:

SELECT Count(*)
FROM   (
        SELECT DISTINCT
               id
             , name
             , address
        FROM   your_table
       ) As distinctified

Plot different DataFrames in the same figure

If you a running Jupyter/Ipython notebook and having problems using;

ax = df1.plot()

df2.plot(ax=ax)

Run the command inside of the same cell!! It wont, for some reason, work when they are separated into sequential cells. For me at least.

Apache shows PHP code instead of executing it

Some times if you have php version conflicts it happens To overcome that please follow the below steps

Step 1 : Yum list installed | grep 'php'

if you have multiple versions of php like php 5.6 and php 7.0 this confilict will happens

Step 2 : yum remove **your php version **

Step 3 : Then restart the apapche /etc/init.d/httpd restart or service apache2 restart

Get JSONArray without array name?

You don't need to call json.getJSONArray() at all, because the JSON you're working with already is an array. So, don't construct an instance of JSONObject; use a JSONArray. This should suffice:

// ...
JSONArray json = new JSONArray(result);
// ...

for(int i=0;i<json.length();i++){
    HashMap<String, String> map = new HashMap<String, String>();
    JSONObject e = json.getJSONObject(i);

    map.put("id",  String.valueOf(i));
    map.put("name", "Earthquake name:" + e.getString("eqid"));
    map.put("magnitude", "Magnitude: " +  e.getString("magnitude"));
    mylist.add(map);
}

You can't use exactly the same methods as in the tutorial, because the JSON you're dealing with needs to be parsed into a JSONArray at the root, not a JSONObject.

Bootstrap 3 Glyphicons are not working

     url('../fonts/glyphicons-halflings-regular.ttf') format('truetype'),
     url('../fonts/glyphicons-halflings-regular.svg#glyphicons-halflingsregular') format('svg'); }

AngularJS : Clear $watch

Some time your $watch is calling dynamically and it will create its instances so you have to call deregistration function before your $watch function

if(myWatchFun)
  myWatchFun(); // it will destroy your previous $watch if any exist
myWatchFun = $scope.$watch("abc", function () {});

Use of Application.DoEvents()

Application.DoEvents can create problems, if something other than graphics processing is put in the message queue.

It can be useful for updating progress bars and notifying the user of progress in something like MainForm construction and loading, if that takes a while.

In a recent application I've made, I used DoEvents to update some labels on a Loading Screen every time a block of code is executed in the constructor of my MainForm. The UI thread was, in this case, occupied with sending an email on a SMTP server that didn't support SendAsync() calls. I could probably have created a different thread with Begin() and End() methods and called a Send() from their, but that method is error-prone and I would prefer the Main Form of my application not throwing exceptions during construction.

Removing duplicates from a list of lists

>>> k = [[1, 2], [4], [5, 6, 2], [1, 2], [3], [4]]
>>> import itertools
>>> k.sort()
>>> list(k for k,_ in itertools.groupby(k))
[[1, 2], [3], [4], [5, 6, 2]]

itertools often offers the fastest and most powerful solutions to this kind of problems, and is well worth getting intimately familiar with!-)

Edit: as I mention in a comment, normal optimization efforts are focused on large inputs (the big-O approach) because it's so much easier that it offers good returns on efforts. But sometimes (essentially for "tragically crucial bottlenecks" in deep inner loops of code that's pushing the boundaries of performance limits) one may need to go into much more detail, providing probability distributions, deciding which performance measures to optimize (maybe the upper bound or the 90th centile is more important than an average or median, depending on one's apps), performing possibly-heuristic checks at the start to pick different algorithms depending on input data characteristics, and so forth.

Careful measurements of "point" performance (code A vs code B for a specific input) are a part of this extremely costly process, and standard library module timeit helps here. However, it's easier to use it at a shell prompt. For example, here's a short module to showcase the general approach for this problem, save it as nodup.py:

import itertools

k = [[1, 2], [4], [5, 6, 2], [1, 2], [3], [4]]

def doset(k, map=map, list=list, set=set, tuple=tuple):
  return map(list, set(map(tuple, k)))

def dosort(k, sorted=sorted, xrange=xrange, len=len):
  ks = sorted(k)
  return [ks[i] for i in xrange(len(ks)) if i == 0 or ks[i] != ks[i-1]]

def dogroupby(k, sorted=sorted, groupby=itertools.groupby, list=list):
  ks = sorted(k)
  return [i for i, _ in itertools.groupby(ks)]

def donewk(k):
  newk = []
  for i in k:
    if i not in newk:
      newk.append(i)
  return newk

# sanity check that all functions compute the same result and don't alter k
if __name__ == '__main__':
  savek = list(k)
  for f in doset, dosort, dogroupby, donewk:
    resk = f(k)
    assert k == savek
    print '%10s %s' % (f.__name__, sorted(resk))

Note the sanity check (performed when you just do python nodup.py) and the basic hoisting technique (make constant global names local to each function for speed) to put things on equal footing.

Now we can run checks on the tiny example list:

$ python -mtimeit -s'import nodup' 'nodup.doset(nodup.k)'
100000 loops, best of 3: 11.7 usec per loop
$ python -mtimeit -s'import nodup' 'nodup.dosort(nodup.k)'
100000 loops, best of 3: 9.68 usec per loop
$ python -mtimeit -s'import nodup' 'nodup.dogroupby(nodup.k)'
100000 loops, best of 3: 8.74 usec per loop
$ python -mtimeit -s'import nodup' 'nodup.donewk(nodup.k)'
100000 loops, best of 3: 4.44 usec per loop

confirming that the quadratic approach has small-enough constants to make it attractive for tiny lists with few duplicated values. With a short list without duplicates:

$ python -mtimeit -s'import nodup' 'nodup.donewk([[i] for i in range(12)])'
10000 loops, best of 3: 25.4 usec per loop
$ python -mtimeit -s'import nodup' 'nodup.dogroupby([[i] for i in range(12)])'
10000 loops, best of 3: 23.7 usec per loop
$ python -mtimeit -s'import nodup' 'nodup.doset([[i] for i in range(12)])'
10000 loops, best of 3: 31.3 usec per loop
$ python -mtimeit -s'import nodup' 'nodup.dosort([[i] for i in range(12)])'
10000 loops, best of 3: 25 usec per loop

the quadratic approach isn't bad, but the sort and groupby ones are better. Etc, etc.

If (as the obsession with performance suggests) this operation is at a core inner loop of your pushing-the-boundaries application, it's worth trying the same set of tests on other representative input samples, possibly detecting some simple measure that could heuristically let you pick one or the other approach (but the measure must be fast, of course).

It's also well worth considering keeping a different representation for k -- why does it have to be a list of lists rather than a set of tuples in the first place? If the duplicate removal task is frequent, and profiling shows it to be the program's performance bottleneck, keeping a set of tuples all the time and getting a list of lists from it only if and where needed, might be faster overall, for example.

What is a Maven artifact?

To maven, the build process is arranged as a set of artifacts. Artifacts include:

  1. The plugins that make up Maven itself.
  2. Dependencies that your code depends on.
  3. Anything that your build produces that can, in turn be consumed by something else.

Artifacts live in repositories.

how to get text from textview

I haven't tested this - but it should give you a general idea of the direction you need to take.

For this to work, I'm going to assume a few things about the text of the TextView:

  1. The TextView consists of lines delimited with "\n".
  2. The first line will not include an operator (+, -, * or /).
  3. After the first line there can be a variable number of lines in the TextView which will all include one operator and one number.
  4. An operator will allways be the first Char of a line.

First we get the text:

String input = tv1.getText().toString();

Then we split it up for each line:

String[] lines = input.split( "\n" );

Now we need to calculate the total value:

int total = Integer.parseInt( lines[0].trim() ); //We know this is a number.

for( int i = 1; i < lines.length(); i++ ) {
   total = calculate( lines[i].trim(), total );
}

The method calculate should look like this, assuming that we know the first Char of a line is the operator:

private int calculate( String input, int total ) {
   switch( input.charAt( 0 ) )
      case '+':
         return total + Integer.parseInt( input.substring( 1, input.length() );
      case '-':
         return total - Integer.parseInt( input.substring( 1, input.length() );
      case '*':
         return total * Integer.parseInt( input.substring( 1, input.length() );
      case '/':
         return total / Integer.parseInt( input.substring( 1, input.length() );
}

EDIT

So the above as stated in the comment below does "left-to-right" calculation, ignoring the normal order ( + and / before + and -).

The following does the calculation the right way:

String input = tv1.getText().toString();
input = input.replace( "\n", "" );
input = input.replace( " ", "" );
int total = getValue( input );

The method getValue is a recursive method and it should look like this:

private int getValue( String line ) {
  int value = 0;

  if( line.contains( "+" ) ) {
    String[] lines = line.split( "\\+" );
    value += getValue( lines[0] );

    for( int i = 1; i < lines.length; i++ )
      value += getValue( lines[i] );

    return value;
  }

  if( line.contains( "-" ) ) {
    String[] lines = line.split( "\\-" );
    value += getValue( lines[0] );

    for( int i = 1; i < lines.length; i++ )
      value -= getValue( lines[i] );

    return value;
  }

  if( line.contains( "*" ) ) {
    String[] lines = line.split( "\\*" );
    value += getValue( lines[0] );

    for( int i = 1; i < lines.length; i++ )
      value *= getValue( lines[i] );

    return value;
  }

  if( line.contains( "/" ) ) {
    String[] lines = line.split( "\\/" );
    value += getValue( lines[0] );

    for( int i = 1; i < lines.length; i++ )
      value /= getValue( lines[i] );

    return value;
  }

  return Integer.parseInt( line );
}

Special cases that the recursive method does not handle:

  • If the first number is negative e.g. -3+5*8.
  • Double operators e.g. 3*-6 or 5/-4.

Also the fact the we're using Integers might give some "odd" results in some cases as e.g. 5/3 = 1.

A good guy named Mahendra posted a very working solution here.

The following class should make the element horizontally and vertically centered to its parent.

.absolute-center {

    /* Internet Explorer 10 */
    display: -ms-flexbox;
    -ms-flex-pack: center;
    -ms-flex-align: center;

    /* Firefox */

    /* Safari, Opera, and Chrome */
    display: -webkit-box;

Resize image with javascript canvas (smoothly)

I created a library that allows you to downstep any percentage while keeping all the color data.

https://github.com/danschumann/limby-resize/blob/master/lib/canvas_resize.js

That file you can include in the browser. The results will look like photoshop or image magick, preserving all the color data, averaging pixels, rather than taking nearby ones and dropping others. It doesn't use a formula to guess the averages, it takes the exact average.

On the realisation that you're unfamiliar with colspan, I presumed you're also unfamiliar with rowspan, so I thought I'd throw that in for free.

JavaScript dictionary with names

Here's a dictionary that will take any type of key as long as the toString() property returns unique values. The dictionary uses anything as the value for the key value pair.

See Would JavaScript Benefit from a Dictionary Object.

To use the dictionary as is:

var dictFact = new Dict();
var myDict = dictFact.New();
myDict.addOrUpdate("key1", "Value1");
myDict.addOrUpdate("key2", "Value2");
myDict.addOrUpdate("keyN", "ValueN");

The dictionary code is below:

/*
* Dictionary Factory Object
* Holds common object functions. similar to V-Table
* this.New() used to create new dictionary objects
* Uses Object.defineProperties so won't work on older browsers.
* Browser Compatibility (https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/JavaScript/Reference/Global_Objects/Object/defineProperties)

Nodejs convert string into UTF-8

Use the utf8 module from npm to encode/decode the string.

Installation:

npm install utf8

In a browser:

<script src="utf8.js"></script>

In Node.js:

const utf8 = require('utf8');

API:

Encode:

utf8.encode(string)

Encodes any given JavaScript string (string) as UTF-8, and returns the UTF-8-encoded version of the string. It throws an error if the input string contains a non-scalar value, i.e. a lone surrogate. (If you need to be able to encode non-scalar values as well, use WTF-8 instead.)

// U+00A9 COPYRIGHT SIGN; see http://codepoints.net/U+00A9
utf8.encode('\xA9');
// ? '\xC2\xA9'
// U+10001 LINEAR B SYLLABLE B038 E; see http://codepoints.net/U+10001
utf8.encode('\uD800\uDC01');
// ? '\xF0\x90\x80\x81'

Decode:

utf8.decode(byteString)

Decodes any given UTF-8-encoded string (byteString) as UTF-8, and returns the UTF-8-decoded version of the string. It throws an error when malformed UTF-8 is detected. (If you need to be able to decode encoded non-scalar values as well, use WTF-8 instead.)

utf8.decode('\xC2\xA9');
// ? '\xA9'

utf8.decode('\xF0\x90\x80\x81');
// ? '\uD800\uDC01'
// ? U+10001 LINEAR B SYLLABLE B038 E

What is the difference between Promises and Observables?

Short answer :

Observable is better, it has all Promises features plus extra features.

Long answer:

Promises:

  • One Time Use "Return data once"
  • No cancel
  • One listener
  • No Socket Support One Listener

Observable:

  • Return Data many times as data change
  • Support cancel
  • Support socket
  • Support many Listener and notify them when data change
  • Support map, filter, reduce

Is it possible to use pip to install a package from a private GitHub repository?

If you want to install dependencies from a requirements file within a CI server or alike, you can do this:

git config --global credential.helper 'cache'
echo "protocol=https
host=example.com
username=${GIT_USER}
password=${GIT_PASS}
" | git credential approve
pip install -r requirements.txt

In my case, I used GIT_USER=gitlab-ci-token and GIT_PASS=${CI_JOB_TOKEN}.

This method has a clear advantage. You have a single requirements file which contains all of your dependencies.

Postgres: SQL to list table foreign keys

I think what you were looking for and very close to what @ollyc wrote is this:

SELECT
tc.constraint_name, tc.table_name, kcu.column_name,
ccu.table_name AS foreign_table_name,
ccu.column_name AS foreign_column_name
FROM
information_schema.table_constraints AS tc
JOIN information_schema.key_column_usage AS kcu
  ON tc.constraint_name = kcu.constraint_name
JOIN information_schema.constraint_column_usage AS ccu
  ON ccu.constraint_name = tc.constraint_name
WHERE constraint_type = 'FOREIGN KEY' AND ccu.table_name='YourTableNameHere';

This will list all the tables that use your specified table as a foreign key

What is an uber jar?

Über is the German word for above or over (it's actually cognate with the English over).

Hence, in this context, an uber-jar is an "over-jar", one level up from a simple JAR (a), defined as one that contains both your package and all its dependencies in one single JAR file. The name can be thought to come from the same stable as ultrageek, superman, hyperspace, and metadata, which all have similar meanings of "beyond the normal".

The advantage is that you can distribute your uber-jar and not care at all whether or not dependencies are installed at the destination, as your uber-jar actually has no dependencies.

All the dependencies of your own stuff within the uber-jar are also within that uber-jar. As are all dependencies of those dependencies. And so on.

(a) I probably shouldn't have to explain what a JAR is to a Java developer but I'll include it for completeness. It's a Java archive, basically a single file that typically contains a number of Java class files along with associated metadata and resources.

How to set viewport meta for iPhone that handles rotation properly?

just want to share, i've played around with the viewport settings for my responsive design, if i set the Max scale to 0.8, the initial scale to 1 and scalable to no then i get the smallest view in portrait mode and the iPad view for landscape :D... this is properly an ugly hack but it seems to work, i don't know why so i won't be using it, but interesting results

<meta name="viewport" content="user-scalable=no, initial-scale = 1.0,maximum-scale = 0.8,width=device-width" />

invalid new-expression of abstract class type

Another possible cause for future Googlers

I had this issue because a method I was trying to implement required a std::unique_ptr<Queue>(myQueue) as a parameter, but the Queue class is abstract. I solved that by using a QueuePtr(myQueue) constructor like so:

using QueuePtr = std::unique_ptr<Queue>;

and used that in the parameter list instead. This fixes it because the initializer tries to create a copy of Queue when you make a std::unique_ptr of its type, which can't happen.

Access parent URL from iframe

var url = (window.location != window.parent.location) ? document.referrer: document.location;

I found that the above example suggested previously worked when the script was being executed in an iframe however it did not retrieve the url when the script was executed outside of an iframe, a slight adjustment was required:

var url = (window.location != window.parent.location) ? document.referrer: document.location.href;

Best data type to store money values in MySQL

You can use DECIMAL or NUMERIC both are same

The DECIMAL and NUMERIC types store exact numeric data values. These types are used when it is important to preserve exact precision, for example with monetary data. In MySQL, NUMERIC is implemented as DECIMAL, so the following remarks about DECIMAL apply equally to NUMERIC. : MySQL

i.e. DECIMAL(10,2)

What does OpenCV's cvWaitKey( ) function do?

cvWaitKey(0) stops your program until you press a button.

cvWaitKey(10) doesn't stop your program but wake up and alert to end your program when you press a button. Its used into loops because cvWaitkey doesn't stop loop.

Normal use

char k;

k=cvWaitKey(0);

if(k == 'ESC')

with k you can see what key was pressed.

What is the best way to access redux store outside a react component?

Like @sanchit proposed middleware is a nice solution if you are already defining your axios instance globally.

You can create a middleware like:

function createAxiosAuthMiddleware() {
  return ({ getState }) => next => (action) => {
    const { token } = getState().authentication;
    global.axios.defaults.headers.common.Authorization = token ? `Bearer ${token}` : null;

    return next(action);
  };
}

const axiosAuth = createAxiosAuthMiddleware();

export default axiosAuth;

And use it like this:

import { createStore, applyMiddleware } from 'redux';
const store = createStore(reducer, applyMiddleware(axiosAuth))

It will set the token on every action but you could only listen for actions that change the token for example.

How can I provide multiple conditions for data trigger in WPF?

THIS ANSWER IS FOR ANIMATIONS ONLY

If you wanna implement the AND logic, you should use MultiTrigger, here is an example:

Suppose we want to do some actions if the property Text="" (empty string) AND IsKeyboardFocused="False", then your code should look like the following:

<MultiTrigger>
    <MultiTrigger.Conditions>
        <Condition Property="Text" Value="" />
        <Condition Property="IsKeyboardFocused" Value="False" />
    </MultiTrigger.Conditions>
        <MultiTrigger.EnterActions>
            <!-- Your actions here -->
        </MultiTrigger.EnterActions>
</MultiTrigger>

If you wanna implement the OR logic, there are couple of ways, and it depends on what you try to do:

The first option is to use multiple Triggers.
So, suppose you wanna do something if either Text="" OR IsKeyboardFocused="False",
then your code should look something like this:

<Trigger Property="IsEnabled" Value="false">
    <Setter Property="Opacity" TargetName="border" Value="0.56"/>
</Trigger>
<Trigger Property="IsMouseOver" Value="true">
    <Setter Property="BorderBrush" TargetName="border"
            Value="{StaticResource TextBox.MouseOver.Border}"/>
</Trigger>

But the problem in this is what will I do if i wanna do something if either Text ISN'T null OR IsKeyboard="True"? This can be achieved by the second approach:
Recall De Morgan's rule, that says !(!x && !y) = x || y.
So we'll use it to solve the previous problem, by writing a multi trigger that it's triggered when Text="" and IsKeyboard="True", and we'll do our actions in EXIT ACTIONS, like this:

<MultiTrigger>
    <MultiTrigger.Conditions>
        <Condition Property="Text" Value="" />
        <Condition Property="IsKeyboardFocused" Value="False" />
    </MultiTrigger.Conditions>
    <MultiTrigger.ExitActions>
        <!-- Do something here -->
    </MultiTrigger.ExitActions>
</MultiTrigger>

Checking Value of Radio Button Group via JavaScript?

If you are using a javascript library like jQuery, it's very easy:

How to set and reference a variable in a Jenkinsfile

The error is due to that you're only allowed to use pipeline steps inside the steps directive. One workaround that I know is to use the script step and wrap arbitrary pipeline script inside of it and save the result in the environment variable so that it can be used later.

So in your case:

pipeline {
    agent any
    stages {
        stage("foo") {
            steps {
                script {
                    env.FILENAME = readFile 'output.txt'
                }
                echo "${env.FILENAME}"
            }
        }
    }
}

HashMaps and Null values?

You can keep note of below possibilities:

1. Values entered in a map can be null.

However with multiple null keys and values it will only take a null key value pair once.

Map<String, String> codes = new HashMap<String, String>();

codes.put(null, null);
codes.put(null,null);
codes.put("C1", "Acathan");

for(String key:codes.keySet()){
    System.out.println(key);
    System.out.println(codes.get(key));
}

output will be :

null //key of the 1st entry
null //value of 1st entry
C1
Acathan

2. your code will execute null only once

options.put(null, null);
Person person = sample.searchPerson(null);

It depends on the implementation of your searchPerson method if you want multiple values to be null, you can implement accordingly

Map<String, String> codes = new HashMap<String, String>();

    codes.put(null, null);
    codes.put("X1",null);
    codes.put("C1", "Acathan");
    codes.put("S1",null);

    for(String key:codes.keySet()){
        System.out.println(key);
        System.out.println(codes.get(key));
    }

output:

null
null

X1
null
S1
null
C1
Acathan

Quickly create large file on a Windows system

I was looking for a way to create a large dummy file with space allocation recently. All of the solutions look awkward. Finally I just started the DISKPART utility in Windows (embedded since Windows Vista):

DISKPART
CREATE VDISK FILE="C:\test.vhd" MAXIMUM=20000 TYPE=FIXED

Where MAXIMUM is the resulting file size, 20 GB here.

onclick on a image to navigate to another page using Javascript

Because it makes these things so easy, you could consider using a JavaScript library like jQuery to do this:

<script>
    $(document).ready(function() {
        $('img.thumbnail').click(function() {
            window.location.href = this.id + '.html';
        });
    });

Basically, it attaches an onClick event to all images with class thumbnail to redirect to the corresponding HTML page (id + .html). Then you only need the images in your HTML (without the a elements), like this:

<img src="bottle.jpg" alt="bottle" class="thumbnail" id="bottle" />
<img src="glass.jpg" alt="glass" class="thumbnail" id="glass" />

How to search for file names in Visual Studio?

Visual Studio 2019:

Find unique lines

sort -d "file name" | uniq -u

this worked for me for a similar one. Use this if it is not arranged. You can remove sort if it is arranged

What is the convention for word separator in Java package names?

All three are not the conventions.

Use com.stackoverflow.mypackage.

The package names do not follow camel casing or underscores or hyphens package naming convention.

Also, Google Java Style Guide specifies exactly the same (i.e. com.stackoverflow.mypackage) convention:

5.2.1 Package names

Package names are all lowercase, with consecutive words simply concatenated together (no underscores). For example, com.example.deepspace, not com.example.deepSpace or com.example.deep_space.

Google Java Style Guide: 5.2 Rules by identifier type: 5.2.1 Package names.

type object 'datetime.datetime' has no attribute 'datetime'

You should use

date = datetime(int(year), int(month), 1)

Or change

from datetime import datetime

to

import datetime

Can I add jars to maven 2 build classpath without installing them?

I found another way to do this, see here from a Heroku post

To summarize (sorry about some copy & paste)

  • Create a repo directory under your root folder:
yourproject
+- pom.xml
+- src
+- repo
  • Run this to install the jar to your local repo directory
mvn deploy:deploy-file -Durl=file:///path/to/yourproject/repo/ -Dfile=mylib-1.0.jar -DgroupId=com.example -DartifactId=mylib -Dpackaging=jar -Dversion=1.0
  • Add this your pom.xml:
<repositories>
    <!--other repositories if any-->
    <repository>
        <id>project.local</id>
        <name>project</name>
        <url>file:${project.basedir}/repo</url>
    </repository>
</repositories>

<dependency>
    <groupId>com.example</groupId>
    <artifactId>mylib</artifactId>
    <version>1.0</version>
</dependency>

Alter column in SQL Server

I think you want this syntax:

ALTER TABLE tb_TableName
add constraint cnt_Record_Status Default '' for Record_Status

Based on some of your comments, I am going to guess that you might already have null values in your table which is causing the alter of the column to not null to fail. If that is the case, then you should run an UPDATE first. Your script will be:

update tb_TableName
set Record_Status  = ''
where Record_Status is null

ALTER TABLE tb_TableName
ALTER COLUMN Record_Status VARCHAR(20) NOT NULL

ALTER TABLE tb_TableName
ADD CONSTRAINT DEF_Name DEFAULT '' FOR Record_Status

See SQL Fiddle with demo

Add a list item through javascript

The above answer was helpful for me, but it might be useful (or best practice) to add the name on submit, as I wound up doing. Hopefully this will be helpful to someone. CodePen Sample

    <form id="formAddName">
      <fieldset>
        <legend>Add Name </legend>
            <label for="firstName">First Name</label>
            <input type="text" id="firstName" name="firstName" />

        <button>Add</button>
      </fieldset>
    </form>

      <ol id="demo"></ol>

<script>
    var list = document.getElementById('demo');
    var entry = document.getElementById('formAddName');
    entry.onsubmit = function(evt) {
    evt.preventDefault();
    var firstName = document.getElementById('firstName').value;
    var entry = document.createElement('li');
    entry.appendChild(document.createTextNode(firstName));
    list.appendChild(entry);
  }

How do I add a new column to a Spark DataFrame (using PySpark)?

You can define a new udf when adding a column_name:

u_f = F.udf(lambda :yourstring,StringType())
a.select(u_f().alias('column_name')

Strip / trim all strings of a dataframe

If you really want to use regex, then

>>> df.replace('(^\s+|\s+$)', '', regex=True, inplace=True)
>>> df
   0   1
0  a  10
1  c   5

But it should be faster to do it like this:

>>> df[0] = df[0].str.strip()

Is there any native DLL export functions viewer?

you can use Dependency Walker to view the function name. you can see the function's parameters only if it's decorated. read the following from the FAQ:

How do I view the parameter and return types of a function? For most functions, this information is simply not present in the module. The Windows' module file format only provides a single text string to identify each function. There is no structured way to list the number of parameters, the parameter types, or the return type. However, some languages do something called function "decoration" or "mangling", which is the process of encoding information into the text string. For example, a function like int Foo(int, int) encoded with simple decoration might be exported as _Foo@8. The 8 refers to the number of bytes used by the parameters. If C++ decoration is used, the function would be exported as ?Foo@@YGHHH@Z, which can be directly decoded back to the function's original prototype: int Foo(int, int). Dependency Walker supports C++ undecoration by using the Undecorate C++ Functions Command.

How do I copy a folder from remote to local using scp?

Better to first compress catalog on remote server:

tar czfP backup.tar.gz /path/to/catalog

Secondly, download from remote:

scp [email protected]:/path/to/backup.tar.gz .

At the end, extract the files:

tar -xzvf backup.tar.gz

How to link home brew python version and set it as default

This answer is for upgrading Python 2.7.10 to Python 2.7.11 on Mac OS X El Capitan . On Terminal type:

brew unlink python

After that type on Terminal

brew install python

append multiple values for one key in a dictionary

You can use setdefault.

for line in list:
    d.setdefault(year, []).append(value)

This works because setdefault returns the list as well as setting it on the dictionary, and because a list is mutable, appending to the version returned by setdefault is the same as appending it to the version inside the dictionary itself. If that makes any sense.

Import an Excel worksheet into Access using VBA

Pass the sheet name with the Range parameter of the DoCmd.TransferSpreadsheet Method. See the box titled "Worksheets in the Range Parameter" near the bottom of that page.

This code imports from a sheet named "temp" in a workbook named "temp.xls", and stores the data in a table named "tblFromExcel".

Dim strXls As String
strXls = CurrentProject.Path & Chr(92) & "temp.xls"
DoCmd.TransferSpreadsheet acImport, , "tblFromExcel", _

surface plots in matplotlib

Just to chime in, Emanuel had the answer that I (and probably many others) are looking for. If you have 3d scattered data in 3 separate arrays, pandas is an incredible help and works much better than the other options. To elaborate, suppose your x,y,z are some arbitrary variables. In my case these were c,gamma, and errors because I was testing a support vector machine. There are many potential choices to plot the data:

  • scatter3D(cParams, gammas, avg_errors_array) - this works but is overly simplistic
  • plot_wireframe(cParams, gammas, avg_errors_array) - this works, but will look ugly if your data isn't sorted nicely, as is potentially the case with massive chunks of real scientific data
  • ax.plot3D(cParams, gammas, avg_errors_array) - similar to wireframe

Wireframe plot of the data

Wireframe plot of the data

3d scatter of the data

3d scatter of the data

The code looks like this:

    fig = plt.figure()
    ax = fig.gca(projection='3d')
    ax.set_xlabel('c parameter')
    ax.set_ylabel('gamma parameter')
    ax.set_zlabel('Error rate')
    #ax.plot_wireframe(cParams, gammas, avg_errors_array)
    #ax.plot3D(cParams, gammas, avg_errors_array)
    #ax.scatter3D(cParams, gammas, avg_errors_array, zdir='z',cmap='viridis')

    df = pd.DataFrame({'x': cParams, 'y': gammas, 'z': avg_errors_array})
    surf = ax.plot_trisurf(df.x, df.y, df.z, cmap=cm.jet, linewidth=0.1)
    fig.colorbar(surf, shrink=0.5, aspect=5)
    plt.savefig('./plots/avgErrs_vs_C_andgamma_type_%s.png'%(k))
    plt.show()

Here is the final output:

How to style HTML5 range input to have different color before and after slider?

A small update to this one:

if you use the following it will update on the fly rather than on mouse release.

                + 'color-stop(' + val + ', #2f466b), '
                + 'color-stop(' + val + ', #d3d3db)'
                + ')'

What does the 'standalone' directive mean in XML?

standalone describes if the current XML document depends on an external markup declaration.

W3C describes its purpose in "Extensible Markup Language (XML) 1.0 (Fifth Edition)":

Grep to find item in Perl array

This could be done using List::Util's first function:

use List::Util qw/first/;

my @array = qw/foo bar baz/;
print first { $_ eq 'bar' } @array;

Other functions from List::Util like max, min, sum also may be useful for you

How do I inject a controller into another controller in AngularJS

<div ng-controller="TestCtrl1">
    <div ng-controller="TestCtrl2">
      <!-- your code-->
    </div>
</div>

This works best in my case, where TestCtrl2 has it's own directives.

var testCtrl2 = $controller('TestCtrl2')

This gives me an error saying scopeProvider injection error.

   var testCtrl1ViewModel = $scope.$new();
   $controller('TestCtrl1',{$scope : testCtrl1ViewModel });
   testCtrl1ViewModel.myMethod();

This doesn't really work if you have directives in 'TestCtrl1', that directive actually have a different scope from this one created here. You end up with two instances of 'TestCtrl1'.

Changing the position of Bootstrap popovers based on the popover's X position in relation to window edge?

So I figured out a way to do this effectively. For my particular project I'm building an iPad website so I knew exactly what the pixel X/Y value would be to reach the edge of the screen. Your thisX and thisY values will vary.

Since the popovers are being placed by inline styling anyway, I simply grab the left and top values for each link to decide which direction the popover should be. This is done by appending html5 data- values that .popover() uses upon execution.

if ($('.infopoint').length>0){
    $('.infopoint').each(function(){
        var thisX = $(this).css('left').replace('px','');
        var thisY = $(this).css('top').replace('px','');
        if (thisX > 515)
            $(this).attr('data-placement','left');
        if (thisX < 515)
            $(this).attr('data-placement','right');
        if (thisY > 480)
            $(this).attr('data-placement','top');
        if (thisY < 110)
            $(this).attr('data-placement','bottom');
    });
    $('.infopoint').popover({
        trigger:'hover',
        animation: false,
        html: true
    });
}

Any comments/improvements are welcome but this gets the job done if you're willing to put the values in manually.

Explanation of <script type = "text/template"> ... </script>

To add to Box9's answer:

Backbone.js is dependent on underscore.js, which itself implements John Resig's original microtemplates.

If you decide to use Backbone.js with Rails, be sure to check out the Jammit gem. It provides a very clean way to manage asset packaging for templates. http://documentcloud.github.com/jammit/#jst

By default Jammit also uses JResig's microtemplates, but it also allows you to replace the templating engine.

How to unpack and pack pkg file?

Packages are just .xar archives with a different extension and a specified file hierarchy. Unfortunately, part of that file hierarchy is a cpio.gz archive of the actual installables, and usually that's what you want to edit. And there's also a Bom file that includes information on the files inside that cpio archive, and a PackageInfo file that includes summary information.

If you really do just need to edit one of the info files, that's simple:

mkdir Foo
cd Foo
xar -xf ../Foo.pkg
# edit stuff
xar -cf ../Foo-new.pkg *

But if you need to edit the installable files:

mkdir Foo
cd Foo
xar -xf ../Foo.pkg
cd foo.pkg
cat Payload | gunzip -dc |cpio -i
# edit Foo.app/*
rm Payload
find ./Foo.app | cpio -o | gzip -c > Payload
mkbom Foo.app Bom # or edit Bom
# edit PackageInfo
rm -rf Foo.app
cd ..
xar -cf ../Foo-new.pkg

I believe you can get mkbom (and lsbom) for most linux distros. (If you can get ditto, that makes things even easier, but I'm not sure if that's nearly as ubiquitously available.)

How to populate a sub-document in mongoose after creating it?

This might have changed since the original answer was written, but it looks like you can now use the Models populate function to do this without having to execute an extra findOne. See: http://mongoosejs.com/docs/api.html#model_Model.populate. You'd want to use this inside the save handler just like the findOne is.

Android custom dropdown/popup menu

The Kotlin Way

fun showPopupMenu(view: View) {
    PopupMenu(view.context, view).apply {
                menuInflater.inflate(R.menu.popup_men, menu)
                setOnMenuItemClickListener { item ->
                    Toast.makeText(view.context, "You Clicked : " + item.title, Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show()
                    true
                }
            }.show()
}

UPDATE: In the above code, the apply function returns this which is not required, so we can use run which don't return anything and to make it even simpler we can also remove the curly braces of showPopupMenu method.

Even Simpler:

fun showPopupMenu(view: View) = PopupMenu(view.context, view).run {
            menuInflater.inflate(R.menu.popup_men, menu)
            setOnMenuItemClickListener { item ->
                Toast.makeText(view.context, "You Clicked : ${item.title}", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show()
                true
            }
            show()
        }

How do you configure tomcat to bind to a single ip address (localhost) instead of all addresses?

It may be worth mentioning that running tomcat as a non root user (which you should be doing) will prevent you from using a port below 1024 on *nix. If you want to use TC as a standalone server -- as its performance no longer requires it to be fronted by Apache or the like -- you'll want to bind to port 80 along with whatever IP address you're specifying.

You can do this by using IPTABLES to redirect port 80 to 8080.

D3 transform scale and translate

Scott Murray wrote a great explanation of this[1]. For instance, for the code snippet:

svg.append("g")
    .attr("class", "axis")
    .attr("transform", "translate(0," + h + ")")
    .call(xAxis);

He explains using the following:

Note that we use attr() to apply transform as an attribute of g. SVG transforms are quite powerful, and can accept several different kinds of transform definitions, including scales and rotations. But we are keeping it simple here with only a translation transform, which simply pushes the whole g group over and down by some amount.

Translation transforms are specified with the easy syntax of translate(x,y), where x and y are, obviously, the number of horizontal and vertical pixels by which to translate the element.

Regular expression to match a word or its prefix

I test examples in js. Simplest solution - just add word u need inside / /:

var reg = /cat/;
reg.test('some cat here');//1 test
true // result
reg.test('acatb');//2 test
true // result

Now if u need this specific word with boundaries, not inside any other signs-letters. We use b marker:

var reg = /\bcat\b/
reg.test('acatb');//1 test
false // result
reg.test('have cat here');//2 test
true // result

We have also exec() method in js, whichone returns object-result. It helps f.g. to get info about place/index of our word.

var matchResult = /\bcat\b/.exec("good cat good");
console.log(matchResult.index); // 5

If we need get all matched words in string/sentence/text, we can use g modifier (global match):

"cat good cat good cat".match(/\bcat\b/g).length
// 3

Now the last one - i need not 1 specific word, but some of them. We use | sign, it means choice/or.

"bad dog bad".match(/\bcat|dog\b/g).length
// 1

Create a batch file to copy and rename file

Make a bat file with the following in it:

copy /y C:\temp\log1k.txt C:\temp\log1k_copied.txt

However, I think there are issues if there are spaces in your directory names. Notice this was copied to the same directory, but that doesn't matter. If you want to see how it runs, make another bat file that calls the first and outputs to a log:

C:\temp\test.bat > C:\temp\test.log

(assuming the first bat file was called test.bat and was located in that directory)

Passing parameter via url to sql server reporting service

As per this link you may also have to prefix your param with &rp if not using proxy syntax

Error: stray '\240' in program

The /240 error is due to illegal spaces before every code of line.

eg.

Do

printf("Anything");

instead of

 printf("Anything");

This error is common when you copied and pasted the code in the IDE.

Can't bind to 'ngForOf' since it isn't a known property of 'tr' (final release)

You have to import 'CommonModule' in the module where you are using these in-built directives like ngFor,ngIf etc.

import { CommonModule } from "@angular/common";

@NgModule({
  imports: [
    CommonModule
  ]
})

export class ProductModule { }

Order discrete x scale by frequency/value

Try manually setting the levels of the factor on the x-axis. For example:

library(ggplot2)
# Automatic levels
ggplot(mtcars, aes(factor(cyl))) + geom_bar()

ggplot of the cars dataset with factor levels automatically determined

# Manual levels
cyl_table <- table(mtcars$cyl)
cyl_levels <- names(cyl_table)[order(cyl_table)]
mtcars$cyl2 <- factor(mtcars$cyl, levels = cyl_levels)
# Just to be clear, the above line is no different than:
# mtcars$cyl2 <- factor(mtcars$cyl, levels = c("6","4","8"))
# You can manually set the levels in whatever order you please.
ggplot(mtcars, aes(cyl2)) + geom_bar()

ggplot of the cars dataset with factor levels reordered manually

As James pointed out in his answer, reorder is the idiomatic way of reordering factor levels.

mtcars$cyl3 <- with(mtcars, reorder(cyl, cyl, function(x) -length(x)))
ggplot(mtcars, aes(cyl3)) + geom_bar()

ggplot of the cars dataset with factor levels reordered using the reorder function

How to create a directive with a dynamic template in AngularJS?

One way is using a template function in your directive:

...
template: function(tElem, tAttrs){
    return '<div ng-include="' + tAttrs.template + '" />';
}
...
