Programs & Examples On #Visio

Visio is a diagramming tool included as part of the Microsoft Office suite, though it is usually acquired separately. It is used to create documents such as flowcharts, organizational charts, network topologies, and software architecture diagrams.

UML diagram shapes missing on Visio 2013

Please check this KB article : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2259709 This issue occurs because Visio 2013 uses new UML and database modeling templates that are not used by Visio 2010 or by earlier versions of Visio. And it applies to both :

"Microsoft Visio Professional 2013" and "Microsoft Visio Standard 2013"

So upgrading to Pro might not help as well.

Putting HTML inside Html.ActionLink(), plus No Link Text?

Instead of using Html.ActionLink you can render a url via Url.Action

<a href="<%= Url.Action("Index", "Home") %>"><span>Text</span></a>
<a href="@Url.Action("Index", "Home")"><span>Text</span></a>

And to do a blank url you could have

<a href="<%= Url.Action("Index", "Home") %>"></a>
<a href="@Url.Action("Index", "Home")"></a>

Declaring functions in JSP?

You need to enclose that in <%! %> as follows:

<%!

public String getQuarter(int i){
String quarter;
switch(i){
        case 1: quarter = "Winter";
        break;

        case 2: quarter = "Spring";
        break;

        case 3: quarter = "Summer I";
        break;

        case 4: quarter = "Summer II";
        break;

        case 5: quarter = "Fall";
        break;

        default: quarter = "ERROR";
}

return quarter;
}

%>

You can then invoke the function within scriptlets or expressions:

<%
     out.print(getQuarter(4));
%>

or

<%= getQuarter(17) %>

Creating a custom JButton in Java

Yes, this is possible. One of the main pros for using Swing is the ease with which the abstract controls can be created and manipulates.

Here is a quick and dirty way to extend the existing JButton class to draw a circle to the right of the text.

package test;

import java.awt.Color;
import java.awt.Container;
import java.awt.Dimension;
import java.awt.FlowLayout;
import java.awt.Graphics;

import javax.swing.JButton;
import javax.swing.JFrame;

public class MyButton extends JButton {

    private static final long serialVersionUID = 1L;

    private Color circleColor = Color.BLACK;

    public MyButton(String label) {
        super(label);
    }

    @Override
    protected void paintComponent(Graphics g) {
        super.paintComponent(g);

        Dimension originalSize = super.getPreferredSize();
        int gap = (int) (originalSize.height * 0.2);
        int x = originalSize.width + gap;
        int y = gap;
        int diameter = originalSize.height - (gap * 2);

        g.setColor(circleColor);
        g.fillOval(x, y, diameter, diameter);
    }

    @Override
    public Dimension getPreferredSize() {
        Dimension size = super.getPreferredSize();
        size.width += size.height;
        return size;
    }

    /*Test the button*/
    public static void main(String[] args) {
        MyButton button = new MyButton("Hello, World!");

        JFrame frame = new JFrame();
        frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
        frame.setSize(400, 400);

        Container contentPane = frame.getContentPane();
        contentPane.setLayout(new FlowLayout());
        contentPane.add(button);

        frame.setVisible(true);
    }

}

Note that by overriding paintComponent that the contents of the button can be changed, but that the border is painted by the paintBorder method. The getPreferredSize method also needs to be managed in order to dynamically support changes to the content. Care needs to be taken when measuring font metrics and image dimensions.

For creating a control that you can rely on, the above code is not the correct approach. Dimensions and colours are dynamic in Swing and are dependent on the look and feel being used. Even the default Metal look has changed across JRE versions. It would be better to implement AbstractButton and conform to the guidelines set out by the Swing API. A good starting point is to look at the javax.swing.LookAndFeel and javax.swing.UIManager classes.

string.split - by multiple character delimiter

More fast way using directly a no-string array but a string:

string[] StringSplit(string StringToSplit, string Delimitator)
{
    return StringToSplit.Split(new[] { Delimitator }, StringSplitOptions.None);
}

StringSplit("E' una bella giornata oggi", "giornata");
/* Output
[0] "E' una bella giornata"
[1] " oggi"
*/

How to detect if CMD is running as Administrator/has elevated privileges?

This trick only requires one command: type net session into the command prompt.

If you are NOT an admin, you get an access is denied message.

System error 5 has occurred.

Access is denied.

If you ARE an admin, you get a different message, the most common being:

There are no entries in the list.

From MS Technet:

Used without parameters, net session displays information about all sessions with the local computer.

How can I get the active screen dimensions?

Screen.FromControl, Screen.FromPoint and Screen.FromRectangle should help you with this. For example in WinForms it would be:

class MyForm : Form
{
  public Rectangle GetScreen()
  {
    return Screen.FromControl(this).Bounds;
  }
}

I don't know of an equivalent call for WPF. Therefore, you need to do something like this extension method.

static class ExtensionsForWPF
{
  public static System.Windows.Forms.Screen GetScreen(this Window window)
  {
    return System.Windows.Forms.Screen.FromHandle(new WindowInteropHelper(window).Handle);
  }
}

How to stick a footer to bottom in css?

How can I format a decimal to always show 2 decimal places?

I suppose you're probably using the Decimal() objects from the decimal module? (If you need exactly two digits of precision beyond the decimal point with arbitrarily large numbers, you definitely should be, and that's what your question's title suggests...)

If so, the Decimal FAQ section of the docs has a question/answer pair which may be useful for you:

Q. In a fixed-point application with two decimal places, some inputs have many places and need to be rounded. Others are not supposed to have excess digits and need to be validated. What methods should be used?

A. The quantize() method rounds to a fixed number of decimal places. If the Inexact trap is set, it is also useful for validation:

>>> TWOPLACES = Decimal(10) ** -2       # same as Decimal('0.01')
>>> # Round to two places
>>> Decimal('3.214').quantize(TWOPLACES)
Decimal('3.21')
>>> # Validate that a number does not exceed two places
>>> Decimal('3.21').quantize(TWOPLACES, context=Context(traps=[Inexact]))
Decimal('3.21')
>>> Decimal('3.214').quantize(TWOPLACES, context=Context(traps=[Inexact]))
Traceback (most recent call last):
   ...
Inexact: None

The next question reads

Q. Once I have valid two place inputs, how do I maintain that invariant throughout an application?

If you need the answer to that (along with lots of other useful information), see the aforementioned section of the docs. Also, if you keep your Decimals with two digits of precision beyond the decimal point (meaning as much precision as is necessary to keep all digits to the left of the decimal point and two to the right of it and no more...), then converting them to strings with str will work fine:

str(Decimal('10'))
# -> '10'
str(Decimal('10.00'))
# -> '10.00'
str(Decimal('10.000'))
# -> '10.000'

Replace multiple strings with multiple other strings

This worked for me:

String.prototype.replaceAll = function(search, replacement) {
    var target = this;
    return target.replace(new RegExp(search, 'g'), replacement);
};

function replaceAll(str, map){
    for(key in map){
        str = str.replaceAll(key, map[key]);
    }
    return str;
}

//testing...
var str = "bat, ball, cat";
var map = {
    'bat' : 'foo',
    'ball' : 'boo',
    'cat' : 'bar'
};
var new = replaceAll(str, map);
//result: "foo, boo, bar"

How to change the button text of <input type="file" />?

You can put an image instead, and do it like this:

HTML:

<img src="/images/uploadButton.png" id="upfile1" style="cursor:pointer" />
<input type="file" id="file1"  name="file1" style="display:none" />

JQuery:

$("#upfile1").click(function () {
    $("#file1").trigger('click');
});

CAVEAT: In IE9 and IE10 if you trigger the onClick in a file input via javascript, the form will be flagged as 'dangerous' and cannot be submitted with javascript, not sure if it can be submitted traditionally.

What does %~d0 mean in a Windows batch file?

Yes, There are other shortcuts that you can use which are given below. In your command, ~d0 would mean the drive letter of the 0th argument.

~ expands the given variable
d gets the drive letter only
0 is the argument you are referencing

As the 0th argument is the script path, it gets the drive letter of the path for you. You can use the following shortcuts too.

%~1         - expands %1 removing any surrounding quotes (")
%~f1 - expands %1 to a fully qualified path name
%~d1        - expands %1 to a drive letter only
%~p1        - expands %1 to a path only
%~n1        - expands %1 to a file name only
%~x1        - expands %1 to a file extension only
%~s1 - expanded path contains short names only
%~a1        - expands %1 to file attributes
%~t1        - expands %1 to date/time of file
%~z1 - expands %1 to size of file
%~$PATH:1 - searches the directories listed in the PATH
               environment variable and expands %1 to the fully
               qualified name of the first one found. If the
               environment variable name is not defined or the
               file is not found by the search, then this
               modifier expands to the empty string

%~dp1 - expands %1 to a drive letter and path only
%~nx1 - expands %1 to a file name and extension only
%~dp$PATH:1 - searches the directories listed in the PATH
               environment variable for %1 and expands to the
               drive letter and path of the first one found.
%~ftza1 - expands %1 to a DIR like output line

This can be also found directly in command prompt when you run CALL /? or FOR /?

Duplicate Symbols for Architecture arm64

If you are moving to Xcode 7 or 8 and are opening a really old project, I've encountered this problem:

in SomeConstFile.h

NSString * const kAConstant;

in SomeConstFile.m

NSString *const kAConstant = @"a constant";

Earlier versions of the compiler assumed that the definition in the header file was extern and so including SomeConstFile.h all over the place was fine.

Now you need to explicitly declare these consts as extern:

in SomeConstFile.h

extern NSString * const kAConstant;

hardcoded string "row three", should use @string resource

You must create them under strings.xml

<string name="close">Close</string>

You must replace and reference like this

android:text="@string/close"/>

Do not use @strings even though the XML file says strings.xml or else it will not work.

writing to serial port from linux command line

SCREEN:

NOTE: screen is actually not able to send hex, as far as I know. To do that, use echo or printf

I was using the suggestions in this post to write to a serial port, then using the info from another post to read from the port, with mixed results. I found that using screen is an "easier" solution, since it opens a terminal session directly with that port. (I put easier in quotes, because screen has a really weird interface, IMO, and takes some further reading to figure it out.)

You can issue this command to open a screen session, then anything you type will be sent to the port, plus the return values will be printed below it:

screen /dev/ttyS0 19200,cs8

(Change the above to fit your needs for speed, parity, stop bits, etc.) I realize screen isn't the "linux command line" as the post specifically asks for, but I think it's in the same spirit. Plus, you don't have to type echo and quotes every time.

ECHO:

Follow praetorian droid's answer. HOWEVER, this didn't work for me until I also used the cat command (cat < /dev/ttyS0) while I was sending the echo command.

PRINTF:

I found that one can also use printf's '%x' command:

c="\x"$(printf '%x' 0x12)
printf $c >> $SERIAL_COMM_PORT

Again, for printf, start cat < /dev/ttyS0 before sending the command.

SQL Server JOIN missing NULL values

You can be explicit about the joins:

SELECT Table1.Col1, Table1.Col2, Table1.Col3, Table2.Col4
FROM Table1 INNER JOIN
     Table2
      ON (Table1.Col1 = Table2.Col1 or Table1.Col1 is NULL and Table2.Col1 is NULL) AND
         (Table1.Col2 = Table2.Col2 or Table1.Col2 is NULL and Table2.Col2 is NULL)

In practice, I would be more likely to use coalesce() in the join condition:

SELECT Table1.Col1, Table1.Col2, Table1.Col3, Table2.Col4
FROM Table1 INNER JOIN
     Table2
     ON (coalesce(Table1.Col1, '') = coalesce(Table2.Col1, '')) AND
        (coalesce(Table1.Col2, '') = coalesce(Table2.Col2, ''))

Where '' would be a value not in either of the tables.

Just a word of caution. In most databases, using any of these constructs prevents the use of indexes.

DataGridView changing cell background color

You can use the VisibleChanged event handler.

private void DataGridView1_VisibleChanged(object sender, System.EventArgs e)
{
    var grid = sender as DataGridView;
    grid.Rows[0].Cells[0].Style.BackColor = Color.Yellow;
}

Why can't I define a static method in a Java interface?

Well, without generics, static interfaces are useless because all static method calls are resolved at compile time. So, there's no real use for them.

With generics, they have use -- with or without a default implementation. Obviously there would need to be overriding and so on. However, my guess is that such usage wasn't very OO (as the other answers point out obtusely) and hence wasn't considered worth the effort they'd require to implement usefully.

Restart pods when configmap updates in Kubernetes?

Another way is to stick it into the command section of the Deployment:

...
command: [ "echo", "
  option = value\n
  other_option = value\n
" ]
...

Alternatively, to make it more ConfigMap-like, use an additional Deployment that will just host that config in the command section and execute kubectl create on it while adding an unique 'version' to its name (like calculating a hash of the content) and modifying all the deployments that use that config:

...
command: [ "/usr/sbin/kubectl-apply-config.sh", "
  option = value\n
  other_option = value\n
" ]
...

I'll probably post kubectl-apply-config.sh if it ends up working.

(don't do that; it looks too bad)

Volatile Vs Atomic

There are two important concepts in multithreading environment:

  1. atomicity
  2. visibility

The volatile keyword eradicates visibility problems, but it does not deal with atomicity. volatile will prevent the compiler from reordering instructions which involve a write and a subsequent read of a volatile variable; e.g. k++. Here, k++ is not a single machine instruction, but three:

  1. copy the value to a register;
  2. increment the value;
  3. place it back.

So, even if you declare a variable as volatile, this will not make this operation atomic; this means another thread can see a intermediate result which is a stale or unwanted value for the other thread.

On the other hand, AtomicInteger, AtomicReference are based on the Compare and swap instruction. CAS has three operands: a memory location V on which to operate, the expected old value A, and the new value B. CAS atomically updates V to the new value B, but only if the value in V matches the expected old value A; otherwise, it does nothing. In either case, it returns the value currently in V. The compareAndSet() methods of AtomicInteger and AtomicReference take advantage of this functionality, if it is supported by the underlying processor; if it is not, then the JVM implements it via spin lock.

Get Memory Usage in Android

I use this function to calculate cpu usage. Hope it can help you.

        long idle1 = Long.parseLong(toks[4]);
        long cpu1 = Long.parseLong(toks[2]) + Long.parseLong(toks[3]) + Long.parseLong(toks[5])
              + Long.parseLong(toks[6]) + Long.parseLong(toks[7]) + Long.parseLong(toks[8]);

        try {
            Thread.sleep(360);
        } catch (Exception e) {}

        reader.seek(0);
        load = reader.readLine();
        reader.close();

        toks = load.split(" +");

        long idle2 = Long.parseLong(toks[4]);
        long cpu2 = Long.parseLong(toks[2]) + Long.parseLong(toks[3]) + Long.parseLong(toks[5])
            + Long.parseLong(toks[6]) + Long.parseLong(toks[7]) + Long.parseLong(toks[8]);

        return (float)(cpu2 - cpu1) / ((cpu2 + idle2) - (cpu1 + idle1));

    } catch (IOException ex) {
        ex.printStackTrace();
    }

    return 0;
}

How to write to a JSON file in the correct format

This question is for ruby 1.8 but it still comes on top when googling.

in ruby >= 1.9 you can use

File.write("public/temp.json",tempHash.to_json)

other than what mentioned in other answers, in ruby 1.8 you can also use one liner form

File.open("public/temp.json","w"){ |f| f.write tempHash.to_json }

How do I get the last day of a month?

I don't know C# but, if it turns out there's not a convenient API way to get it, one of the ways you can do so is by following the logic:

today -> +1 month -> set day of month to 1 -> -1 day

Of course, that assumes you have date math of that type.

JavaScript: Global variables after Ajax requests

It seems that your problem is simply a concurrency issue. The post function takes a callback argument to tell you when the post has been finished. You cannot make the alert in global scope like this and expect that the post has already been finished. You have to move it to the callback function.

How can I find the first and last date in a month using PHP?

For specific month and year use date() as natural language as following

$first_date = date('d-m-Y',strtotime('first day of april 2010'));

// Isn't it simple way?

but for Current month

$first_date = date('d-m-Y',strtotime('first day of this month'));
$last_date = date('d-m-Y',strtotime('last day of this month'));

Why can't I use Docker CMD multiple times to run multiple services?

Even though CMD is written down in the Dockerfile, it really is runtime information. Just like EXPOSE, but contrary to e.g. RUN and ADD. By this, I mean that you can override it later, in an extending Dockerfile, or simple in your run command, which is what you are experiencing. At all times, there can be only one CMD.

If you want to run multiple services, I indeed would use supervisor. You can make a supervisor configuration file for each service, ADD these in a directory, and run the supervisor with supervisord -c /etc/supervisor to point to a supervisor configuration file which loads all your services and looks like

[supervisord]
nodaemon=true

[include]
files = /etc/supervisor/conf.d/*.conf

If you would like more details, I wrote a blog on this subject here: http://blog.trifork.com/2014/03/11/using-supervisor-with-docker-to-manage-processes-supporting-image-inheritance/

How to list only the file names that changed between two commits?

The following works well for me:

$ git show --name-only --format=tformat: SHA1..SHA2

It can also be used with a single commit:

git show --name-only --format=tformat: SHA1

which is handy for use in Jenkins where you are provided with a List of changeSet SHA's, and want to iterate over them to see which files have been changed.

This is similar to a couple of the answers above, but using tformat: rather than format: removes the separator space between commits.

How can I sort generic list DESC and ASC?

With Linq

var ascendingOrder = li.OrderBy(i => i);
var descendingOrder = li.OrderByDescending(i => i);

Without Linq

li.Sort((a, b) => a.CompareTo(b)); // ascending sort
li.Sort((a, b) => b.CompareTo(a)); // descending sort

Note that without Linq, the list itself is being sorted. With Linq, you're getting an ordered enumerable of the list but the list itself hasn't changed. If you want to mutate the list, you would change the Linq methods to something like

li = li.OrderBy(i => i).ToList();

What are the differences between .so and .dylib on osx?

The difference between .dylib and .so on mac os x is how they are compiled. For .so files you use -shared and for .dylib you use -dynamiclib. Both .so and .dylib are interchangeable as dynamic library files and either have a type as DYLIB or BUNDLE. Heres the readout for different files showing this.

libtriangle.dylib:
Mach header
      magic cputype cpusubtype caps filetype ncmds sizeofcmds flags
MH_MAGIC_64  X86_64        ALL  0x00       DYLIB    17       1368   NOUNDEFS DYLDLINK TWOLEVEL NO_REEXPORTED_DYLIBS

libtriangle.so:
Mach header
      magic cputype cpusubtype caps filetype ncmds sizeofcmds flags
MH_MAGIC_64  X86_64        ALL  0x00       DYLIB    17       1256   NOUNDEFS DYLDLINK TWOLEVEL NO_REEXPORTED_DYLIBS

triangle.so:
Mach header
      magic cputype cpusubtype caps filetype ncmds sizeofcmds flags
MH_MAGIC_64  X86_64        ALL  0x00      BUNDLE    16       1696   NOUNDEFS DYLDLINK TWOLEVEL

The reason the two are equivalent on Mac OS X is for backwards compatibility with other UNIX OS programs that compile to the .so file type.

Compilation notes: whether you compile a .so file or a .dylib file you need to insert the correct path into the dynamic library during the linking step. You do this by adding -install_name and the file path to the linking command. If you dont do this you will run into the problem seen in this post: Mac Dynamic Library Craziness (May be Fortran Only).

importing jar libraries into android-studio

Try this...

  1. Create libs folder under the application folder.
  2. Add .jar files to libs folder.
  3. Then add .jar files to app's build.gradle dependency.
  4. Finally Sync project with Gradle files.

1.Create libs folder:

How do you handle multiple submit buttons in ASP.NET MVC Framework?

Give your submit buttons a name, and then inspect the submitted value in your controller method:

<% Html.BeginForm("MyAction", "MyController", FormMethod.Post); %>
<input type="submit" name="submitButton" value="Send" />
<input type="submit" name="submitButton" value="Cancel" />
<% Html.EndForm(); %>

posting to

public class MyController : Controller {
    public ActionResult MyAction(string submitButton) {
        switch(submitButton) {
            case "Send":
                // delegate sending to another controller action
                return(Send());
            case "Cancel":
                // call another action to perform the cancellation
                return(Cancel());
            default:
                // If they've submitted the form without a submitButton,
                // just return the view again.
                return(View());
        }
    }

    private ActionResult Cancel() {
        // process the cancellation request here.
        return(View("Cancelled"));
    }

    private ActionResult Send() {
        // perform the actual send operation here.
        return(View("SendConfirmed"));
    }

}

EDIT:

To extend this approach to work with localized sites, isolate your messages somewhere else (e.g. compiling a resource file to a strongly-typed resource class)

Then modify the code so it works like:

<% Html.BeginForm("MyAction", "MyController", FormMethod.Post); %>
<input type="submit" name="submitButton" value="<%= Html.Encode(Resources.Messages.Send)%>" />
<input type="submit" name="submitButton" value="<%=Html.Encode(Resources.Messages.Cancel)%>" />
<% Html.EndForm(); %>

and your controller should look like this:

// Note that the localized resources aren't constants, so
// we can't use a switch statement.

if (submitButton == Resources.Messages.Send) {
    // delegate sending to another controller action
    return(Send());

} else if (submitButton == Resources.Messages.Cancel) {
     // call another action to perform the cancellation
     return(Cancel());
}

How to unnest a nested list

itertools provides the chain function for that:

From http://docs.python.org/library/itertools.html#recipes:

def flatten(listOfLists):
    "Flatten one level of nesting"
    return chain.from_iterable(listOfLists)

Note that the result is an iterable, so you may need list(flatten(...)).

How to uncheck a radio button?

Try

$(this).removeAttr('checked')

Since a lot of browsers will interpret 'checked=anything' as true. This will remove the checked attribute altogether.

Hope this helps.

jquery $(window).height() is returning the document height

With no doctype tag, Chrome reports the same value for both calls.

Adding a strict doctype like <!DOCTYPE html> causes the values to work as advertised.

The doctype tag must be the very first thing in your document. E.g., you can't have any text before it, even if it doesn't render anything.

expected constructor, destructor, or type conversion before ‘(’ token

The first constructor in the header should not end with a semicolon. #include <string> is missing in the header. string is not qualified with std:: in the .cpp file. Those are all simple syntax errors. More importantly: you are not using references, when you should. Also the way you use the ifstream is broken. I suggest learning C++ before trying to use it.

Let's fix this up:

//polygone.h
# if !defined(__POLYGONE_H__)
# define __POLYGONE_H__

#include <iostream>
#include <string>

class Polygone {
public:
  // declarations have to end with a semicolon, definitions do not
  Polygone(){} // why would we needs this?
  Polygone(const std::string& fichier);
};

# endif

and

//polygone.cc
// no need to include things twice
#include "polygone.h"
#include <fstream>

Polygone::Polygone(const std::string& nom)
{
  std::ifstream fichier (nom, ios::in);

  if (fichier.is_open())
  {
    // keep the scope as tiny as possible
    std::string line;
    // getline returns the stream and streams convert to booleans
    while ( std::getline(fichier, line) )
    {
      std::cout << line << std::endl;
    }
  }
  else
  {
    std::cerr << "Erreur a l'ouverture du fichier" << std::endl;
  }

How to measure time in milliseconds using ANSI C?

The accepted answer is good enough.But my solution is more simple.I just test in Linux, use gcc (Ubuntu 7.2.0-8ubuntu3.2) 7.2.0.

Alse use gettimeofday, the tv_sec is the part of second, and the tv_usec is microseconds, not milliseconds.

long currentTimeMillis() {
  struct timeval time;
  gettimeofday(&time, NULL);

  return time.tv_sec * 1000 + time.tv_usec / 1000;
}

int main() {
  printf("%ld\n", currentTimeMillis());
  // wait 1 second
  sleep(1);
  printf("%ld\n", currentTimeMillis());
  return 0;
 }

It print:

1522139691342
1522139692342, exactly a second.

How to read a line from a text file in c/c++?

In C++, you can use the global function std::getline, it takes a string and a stream and an optional delimiter and reads 1 line until the delimiter specified is reached. An example:

#include <string>
#include <iostream>
#include <fstream>

int main() {
    std::ifstream input("filename.txt");
    std::string line;

    while( std::getline( input, line ) ) {
        std::cout<<line<<'\n';
    }

    return 0;
}

This program reads each line from a file and echos it to the console.

For C you're probably looking at using fgets, it has been a while since I used C, meaning I'm a bit rusty, but I believe you can use this to emulate the functionality of the above C++ program like so:

#include <stdio.h>

int main() {
    char line[1024];
    FILE *fp = fopen("filename.txt","r");

    //Checks if file is empty
    if( fp == NULL ) {
        return 1;
    }

    while( fgets(line,1024,fp) ) {
        printf("%s\n",line);
    }

    return 0;
}

With the limitation that the line can not be longer than the maximum length of the buffer that you're reading in to.

fs: how do I locate a parent folder?

I know it is a bit picky, but all the answers so far are not quite right.

The point of path.join() is to eliminate the need for the caller to know which directory separator to use (making code platform agnostic).

Technically the correct answer would be something like:

var path = require("path");

fs.readFile(path.join(__dirname, '..', '..', 'foo.bar'));

I would have added this as a comment to Alex Wayne's answer but not enough rep yet!

EDIT: as per user1767586's observation

What are the differences between a program and an application?

My understanding is this:

  • A computer program is a set of instructions that can be executed on a computer.
  • An application is software that directly helps a user perform tasks.
  • The two intersect, but are not synonymous. A program with a user-interface is an application, but many programs are not applications.

sending email via php mail function goes to spam

If you are sending this through your own mail server you might need to add a "Sender" header which will contain an email address of from your own domain. Gmail will probably be spamming the email because the FROM address is a gmail address but has not been sent from their own server.

I do not understand how execlp() works in Linux

this prototype:

  int execlp(const char *file, const char *arg, ...);

Says that execlp ìs a variable argument function. It takes 2 const char *. The rest of the arguments, if any, are the additional arguments to hand over to program we want to run - also char * - all these are C strings (and the last argument must be a NULL pointer)

So, the file argument is the path name of an executable file to be executed. arg is the string we want to appear as argv[0] in the executable. By convention, argv[0] is just the file name of the executable, normally it's set to the same as file.

The ... are now the additional arguments to give to the executable.

Say you run this from a commandline/shell:

$ ls

That'd be execlp("ls", "ls", (char *)NULL); Or if you run

$ ls -l /

That'd be execlp("ls", "ls", "-l", "/", (char *)NULL);

So on to execlp("/bin/sh", ..., "ls -l /bin/??", ...);

Here you are going to the shell, /bin/sh , and you're giving the shell a command to execute. That command is "ls -l /bin/??". You can run that manually from a commandline/shell:

 $ ls -l /bin/??

Now, how do you run a shell and tell it to execute a command ? You open up the documentation/man page for your shell and read it.

What you want to run is:

$ /bin/sh -c "ls -l /bin/??"

This becomes

  execlp("/bin/sh","/bin/sh", "-c", "ls -l /bin/??", (char *)NULL);

Side note: The /bin/?? is doing pattern matching, this pattern matching is done by the shell, and it expands to all files under /bin/ with 2 characters. If you simply did

  execlp("ls","ls", "-l", "/bin/??", (char *)NULL);

Probably nothing would happen (unless there's a file actually named /bin/??) as there's no shell that interprets and expands /bin/??

Ifelse statement in R with multiple conditions

Based on suggestions from @jaimedash and @Old_Mortality I found a solution:

DF$Den <- ifelse(DF$Denial1 < 1 & !is.na(DF$Denial1) | DF$Denial2 < 1 &
!is.na(DF$Denial2) | DF$Denial3 < 1 & !is.na(DF$Denial3), "0", "1")

Then to ensure a value of NA if all values of the conditional variables are NA:

DF$Den <- ifelse(is.na(DF$Denial1) & is.na(DF$Denial2) & is.na(DF$Denial3),
NA, DF$Den)

Why is the Android emulator so slow? How can we speed up the Android emulator?

Now on ADT 21, it provides more options for a fast emulator... You should use 512 MB RAM, lower CPU Time, Device Selection and VM Heap Size high. For better results, you should use Intel Atom in CPU/ABI... Using Snapshot and CPU Host may not increase your speed of the emulator, but there are useful ones for other purposes.

How can I preview a merge in git?

git log currentbranch..otherbranch will give you the list of commits that will go into the current branch if you do a merge. The usual arguments to log which give details on the commits will give you more information.

git diff currentbranch otherbranch will give you the diff between the two commits that will become one. This will be a diff that gives you everything that will get merged.

Reading/Writing a MS Word file in PHP

Reading binary Word documents would involve creating a parser according to the published file format specifications for the DOC format. I think this is no real feasible solution.

You could use the Microsoft Office XML formats for reading and writing Word files - this is compatible with the 2003 and 2007 version of Word. For reading you have to ensure that the Word documents are saved in the correct format (it's called Word 2003 XML-Document in Word 2007). For writing you just have to follow the openly available XML schema. I've never used this format for writing out Office documents from PHP, but I'm using it for reading in an Excel worksheet (naturally saved as XML-Spreadsheet 2003) and displaying its data on a web page. As the files are plainly XML data it's no problem to navigate within and figure out how to extract the data you need.

The other option - a Word 2007 only option (if the OpenXML file formats are not installed in your Word 2003) - would be to ressort to OpenXML. As databyss pointed out here the DOCX file format is just a ZIP archive with XML files included. There are a lot of resources on MSDN regarding the OpenXML file format, so you should be able to figure out how to read the data you want. Writing will be much more complicated I think - it just depends on how much time you'll invest.

Perhaps you can have a look at PHPExcel which is a library able to write to Excel 2007 files and read from Excel 2007 files using the OpenXML standard. You could get an idea of the work involved when trying to read and write OpenXML Word documents.

Converting xml to string using C#

There's a much simpler way to convert your XmlDocument to a string; use the OuterXml property. The OuterXml property returns a string version of the xml.

public string GetXMLAsString(XmlDocument myxml)
{
    return myxml.OuterXml;
}

Submitting HTML form using Jquery AJAX

Quick Description of AJAX

AJAX is simply Asyncronous JSON or XML (in most newer situations JSON). Because we are doing an ASYNC task we will likely be providing our users with a more enjoyable UI experience. In this specific case we are doing a FORM submission using AJAX.

Really quickly there are 4 general web actions GET, POST, PUT, and DELETE; these directly correspond with SELECT/Retreiving DATA, INSERTING DATA, UPDATING/UPSERTING DATA, and DELETING DATA. A default HTML/ASP.Net webform/PHP/Python or any other form action is to "submit" which is a POST action. Because of this the below will all describe doing a POST. Sometimes however with http you might want a different action and would likely want to utilitize .ajax.

My code specifically for you (described in code comments):

/* attach a submit handler to the form */
$("#formoid").submit(function(event) {

  /* stop form from submitting normally */
  event.preventDefault();

  /* get the action attribute from the <form action=""> element */
  var $form = $(this),
    url = $form.attr('action');

  /* Send the data using post with element id name and name2*/
  var posting = $.post(url, {
    name: $('#name').val(),
    name2: $('#name2').val()
  });

  /* Alerts the results */
  posting.done(function(data) {
    $('#result').text('success');
  });
  posting.fail(function() {

Python error when trying to access list by index - "List indices must be integers, not str"

players is a list which needs to be indexed by integers. You seem to be using it like a dictionary. Maybe you could use unpacking -- Something like:

name, score = player

(if the player list is always a constant length).

There's not much more advice we can give you without knowing what query is and how it works.

It's worth pointing out that the entire code you posted doesn't make a whole lot of sense. There's an IndentationError on the second line. Also, your function is looping over some iterable, but unconditionally returning during the first iteration which isn't usually what you actually want to do.

Loop through JSON object List

Be careful, d is the list.

for (var i = 0; i < result.d.length; i++) {

iOS 7 - Status bar overlaps the view

This is the default behaviour for UIViewController on iOS 7. The view will be full-screen which means the status bar will cover the top of your view.

If you have a UIViewController within a UINavigationController and the navigationBar is visible, you can have the following code in your viewDidLoad or have a background image for navigationBar do the trick.

self.edgesForExtendedLayout = UIRectEdgeNone;

If you have navigationBar hidden, then you have to adjust all the UIView elements by shifting 20 points. I dont't see any other solution. Use auto layout will help a little bit.

Here is the sample code for detecting the iOS version, if you want to backward compatibility.

NSUInteger DeviceSystemMajorVersion() {
    static NSUInteger _deviceSystemMajorVersion = -1;
    static dispatch_once_t onceToken;

    dispatch_once(&onceToken, ^{
        NSString *systemVersion = [UIDevice currentDevice].systemVersion;
        _deviceSystemMajorVersion = [[systemVersion componentsSeparatedByString:@"."][0] intValue];
    });

   return _deviceSystemMajorVersion;

I did some development with Mifare Classic (ISO 14443A) cards about 7-8 years ago. You can read and write to all sectors of the card, IIRC the only data you can't change is the serial number. Back then we used a proprietary library from Philips Semiconductors. The command interface to the card was quite alike the ISO 7816-4 (used with standard Smart Cards).

I'd recomment that you look at the OpenPCD platform if you are into development.

This is also of interest regarding the cryptographic functions in some RFID cards.

T-SQL Format integer to 2-digit string

in angularjs how to access the element that triggered the event?

The general Angular way to get access to an element that triggered an event is to write a directive and bind() to the desired event:

app.directive('myChange', function() {
  return function(scope, element) {
    element.bind('change', function() {
      alert('change on ' + element);
    });
  };
});

or with DDO (as per @tpartee's comment below):

app.directive('myChange', function() {
  return {
    link:  function link(scope, element) {
      element.bind('change', function() {
        alert('change on ' + element);
      });
    }
  }
});

The above directive can be used as follows:

<input id="searchText" ng-model="searchText" type="text" my-change>

Plunker.

Type into the text field, then leave/blur. The change callback function will fire. Inside that callback function, you have access to element.

Some built-in directives support passing an $event object. E.g., ng-*click, ng-Mouse*. Note that ng-change does not support this event.

Although you can get the element via the $event object:

<button ng-click="clickit($event)">Hello</button>

$scope.clickit = function(e) {
    var elem = angular.element(e.srcElement);
    ...

this goes "deep against the Angular way" -- Misko.

How to add a touch event to a UIView?

Seems quite simple these days. This is the Swift version.

let tap = UITapGestureRecognizer(target: self, action: #selector(viewTapped))
    view.addGestureRecognizer(tap)

@objc func viewTapped(recognizer: UIGestureRecognizer)
{
    //Do what you need to do!
}

simulate background-size:cover on <video> or <img>

Guys I have a better solution its short and works perfectly to me. I used it to video. And its perfectly emulates the cover option in css.

Javascript

    $(window).resize(function(){
            //use the aspect ration of your video or image instead 16/9
            if($(window).width()/$(window).height()>16/9){
                $("video").css("width","100%");
                $("video").css("height","auto");
            }
            else{
                $("video").css("width","auto");
                $("video").css("height","100%");
            }
    });

If you flip the if, else you will get contain.

And here is the css. (You don't need to use it if you don't want center positioning, the parent div must be "position:relative")

CSS

video {
position: absolute;
-webkit-transform: translateX(-50%) translateY(-50%);
transform: translateX(-50%) translateY(-50%);
top: 50%;
left: 50%;}

Oracle: how to INSERT if a row doesn't exist

Assuming you are on 10g, you can also use the MERGE statement. This allows you to insert the row if it doesn't exist and ignore the row if it does exist. People tend to think of MERGE when they want to do an "upsert" (INSERT if the row doesn't exist and UPDATE if the row does exist) but the UPDATE part is optional now so it can also be used here.

How do I add a new sourceset to Gradle?

This was once written for Gradle 2.x / 3.x in 2016 and is far outdated!! Please have a look at the documented solutions in Gradle 4 and up

To sum up both old answers (get best and minimum viable of both worlds):

some warm words first:

  1. first, we need to define the sourceSet:

    sourceSets {
        integrationTest
    }

  2. next we expand the sourceSet from test, therefor we use the test.runtimeClasspath (which includes all dependenciess from test AND test itself) as classpath for the derived sourceSet:

    sourceSets {
        integrationTest {
            compileClasspath += sourceSets.test.runtimeClasspath
            runtimeClasspath += sourceSets.test.runtimeClasspath // ***)
        }
    }

    • note) somehow this redeclaration / extend for sourceSets.integrationTest.runtimeClasspath is needed, but should be irrelevant since runtimeClasspath always expands output + runtimeSourceSet, don't get it
  3. we define a dedicated task for just running integration tests:

    task integrationTest(type: Test) {
    }

  4. Configure the integrationTest test classes and classpaths use. The defaults from the java plugin use the test sourceSet

    task integrationTest(type: Test) {
        testClassesDir = sourceSets.integrationTest.output.classesDir
        classpath = sourceSets.integrationTest.runtimeClasspath
    }

  5. (optional) auto run after test

    integrationTest.dependsOn test

  6. (optional) add dependency from check (so it always runs when build or check are executed)

    tasks.check.dependsOn(tasks.integrationTest)

  7. (optional) add java,resources to the sourceSet to support auto-detection and create these "partials" in your IDE. i.e. IntelliJ IDEA will auto create sourceSet directories java and resources for each set if it doesn't exist:

    sourceSets {
         integrationTest {
             java
             resources
         }
    }

tl;dr

apply plugin: 'java'

// apply the runtimeClasspath from "test" sourceSet to the new one
// to include any needed assets: test, main, test-dependencies and main-dependencies
sourceSets {
    integrationTest {
        // not necessary but nice for IDEa's
        java
        resources

        compileClasspath += sourceSets.test.runtimeClasspath
        // somehow this redeclaration is needed, but should be irrelevant
        // since runtimeClasspath always expands compileClasspath
        runtimeClasspath += sourceSets.test.runtimeClasspath
    }
}

// define custom test task for running integration tests
task integrationTest(type: Test) {
    testClassesDir = sourceSets.integrationTest.output.classesDir
    classpath = sourceSets.integrationTest.runtimeClasspath
}
tasks.integrationTest.dependsOn(tasks.test)

referring to:

Unfortunatly, the example code on github.com/gradle/gradle/subprojects/docs/src/samples/java/customizedLayout/build.gradle or …/gradle/…/withIntegrationTests/build.gradle seems not to handle this or has a different / more complex / for me no clearer solution anyway!

Converting from longitude\latitude to Cartesian coordinates

If you care about getting coordinates based on an ellipsoid rather than a sphere, take a look at Geographic_coordinate_conversion - it gives the formulae. GEodetic Datum has the WGS84 constants you need for the conversion.

The formulae there also take into account the altitude relative to the reference ellipsoid surface (useful if you are getting altitude data from a GPS device).

In Maven how to exclude resources from the generated jar?

To exclude any file from a jar / target directory you can use the <excludes> tag in your pom.xml file.

In the next example, all files with .properties extension will not be included:

<build>
    <resources>
        <resource>
            <directory>src/main/resources</directory>
            <excludes>
                <exclude>*.properties</exclude>
            </excludes>
            <filtering>false</filtering>
        </resource>
    </resources>
</build>

When to use Interface and Model in TypeScript / Angular

I personally use interfaces for my models, There hoewver are 3 schools regarding this question, and choosing one is most often based on your requirements:

1- Interfaces:

interface is a virtual structure that only exists within the context of TypeScript. The TypeScript compiler uses interfaces solely for type-checking purposes. Once your code is transpiled to its target language, it will be stripped from its interfaces - JavaScript isn’t typed.

interface User {
 id: number;
 username: string;
}
// inheritance
interface UserDetails extends User {
 birthdate: Date;
 biography?: string; // use the '?' annotation to mark this property as optionnal
}

Mapping server response to an interface is straight forward if you are using HttpClient from HttpClientModule if you are using Angular 4.3.x and above.

getUsers() :Observable<User[]> {
 return this.http.get<User[]>(url); // no need for '.map((res: Response) => res.json())'
}

when to use interfaces:

  • You only need the definition for the server data without introducing additional overhead for the final output.
  • You only need to transmit data without any behaviors or logic (constructor initialization, methods)
  • You do not instantiate/create objects from your interface very often
    • Using simple object-literal notationlet instance: FooInterface = { ... };, you risk having semi-instances all over the place.
    • That doesn't enforce the constraints given by a class ( constructor or initialization logic, validation, encapsulation of private fields...Etc)
  • You need to define contracts/configurations for your systems (global configurations)

2- Classes:

A class defines the blueprints of an object. They express the logic, methods, and properties these objects will inherit.

class User {
 id: number;
 username: string;
 constructor(id :number, username: string)  {
  this.id = id;
  this.username = username.replace(/^\s+|\s+$/g, ''); // trim whitespaces and new lines
 }
}
// inheritance
class UserDetails extends User {
 birthdate: Date;
 biography?: string;
 constructor(id :number, username: string, birthdate:Date, biography? :string )  {
   super(id,username);
  this.birthdate = ...;
 }
}

when to use classes:

  • You instantiate your class and change the instances state over time.
  • Instances of your class will need methods to query or mutate its state
  • When you want to associate behaviors with data more closely;
  • You enforce constraints on the creation of your instaces.
  • If you only write a bunch of properties assignments in your class, you might consider using a type instead.

2- Types:

With the latest versions of typescript, interfaces and types becoming more similar. types do not express logic or state inside your application. It is best to use types when you want to describe some form of information. They can describe varying shapes of data, ranging from simple constructs like strings, arrays, and objects. Like interfaces, types are only virtual structures that don't transpile to any javascript, they just help the compiler making our life easier.

type User = {
 id: number;
 username: string;
}
// inheritance
type UserDetails = User & {
  birthDate :Date;
  biography?:string;
}

when to use types:

  • pass it around as concise function parameters
  • describe a class constructor parameters
  • document small or medium objects coming in or out from an API.
  • they don't carry state nor behavior

How do I change a TCP socket to be non-blocking?

The best method for setting a socket as non-blocking in C is to use ioctl. An example where an accepted socket is set to non-blocking is following:

long on = 1L;
unsigned int len;
struct sockaddr_storage remoteAddress;
len = sizeof(remoteAddress);
int socket = accept(listenSocket, (struct sockaddr *)&remoteAddress, &len)
if (ioctl(socket, (int)FIONBIO, (char *)&on))
{
    printf("ioctl FIONBIO call failed\n");

How to open child forms positioned within MDI parent in VB.NET?

See this page for the solution! https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/7aw8zc76(v=vs.110).aspx

I was able to implement the Child form inside the parent.

In the Example below Form2 should change to the name of your child form. NewMDIChild.MdiParent=me is the main form since the control that opens (shows) the child form is the parent or Me.

NewMDIChild.Show() is your child form since you associated your child form with Dim NewMDIChild As New Form2()

Protected Sub MDIChildNew_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MenuItem2.Click
   Dim NewMDIChild As New Form2()
   'Set the Parent Form of the Child window.
   NewMDIChild.MdiParent = Me
   'Display the new form.
   NewMDIChild.Show()
End Sub

Simple and it works.

Why am I getting "Received fatal alert: protocol_version" or "peer not authenticated" from Maven Central?

Solution 1: configure Java 7

It is need to enable TLS 1.2 protocol with Java property in the command line

mvn -Dhttps.protocols=TLSv1.2 install

install is just an example of a goal

The same error for ant can be solved by this way

java -Dhttps.protocols=TLSv1.2 -cp %ANT_HOME%/lib/ant-launcher.jar org.apache.tools.ant.launch.Launcher

Solution 2: use Java 7 with Oracle Advanced Support

Also problem can be solved by updating the Java 7 version. But the last available version (7u80) doesn't fix the problem. It is need to use an update provided with Oracle Advanced Support (formerly known as Java for Business).

Solution 3: use Java 8 instead

Configure $JAVA_HOME to point to Java 8.

Is this the proper way to do boolean test in SQL?

PostgreSQL supports boolean types, so your SQL query would work perfectly in PostgreSQL.

Where can I get a virtual machine online?

koding.com has a free VM running Ubuntu. The specs are pretty good, 1 gig memory for example. They have a terminal online you can access through their website, or use SSH. The VM will go to sleep approximately 20 minutes after you log out. The reason is to discourage users from running live production code on the VM. The VM resides behind a proxy. Running web servers that only speak HTTP (port 80) should work just fine, but I think you'll get into a lot of trouble whenever you want to work directly with other ports. Many mind-like alternatives offer similar setups. Good luck!

I had the same idea as you but given all restrictions everybody keep imposing everywhere I feel that I must go out and pay for a VPS.

No templates in Visual Studio 2017

If you have installed .NET desktop development and still you can't see the templates, then VS is probably getting the templates from your custom templates folder and not installed.

To fix that, copy the installed templates folder to custom.

This is your "installed" folder

C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 14.0\Common7\IDE\ProjectTemplates

This is your "custom" folder

C:\Users[your username]\Documents\Visual Studio\2017\Templates\ProjectTemplates

Typically this happens when you are at the office and you are running VS as an administrator and visual studio is confused how to merge both of them and if you notice they don't have the same folder structure and folder names.. One is CSHARP and the other C#....

I didn't have the same problem when I installed VS 2017 community edition at home though. This happened when I installed visual studio 2017 "enterprise" edition.

How to state in requirements.txt a direct github source

“Editable” packages syntax can be used in requirements.txt to import packages from a variety of VCS (git, hg, bzr, svn):

-e git://github.com/mozilla/elasticutils.git#egg=elasticutils

Also, it is possible to point to particular commit:

-e git://github.com/mozilla/elasticutils.git@000b14389171a9f0d7d713466b32bc649b0bed8e#egg=elasticutils

jQuery AJAX cross domain

I know 3 way to resolve your problem:

  1. First if you have access to both domains you can allow access for all other domain using :

    header("Access-Control-Allow-Origin: *");

    or just a domain by adding code bellow to .htaccess file:

    <FilesMatch "\.(ttf|otf|eot|woff)$"> <IfModule mod_headers.c> SetEnvIf Origin "http(s)?://(www\.)?(google.com|staging.google.com|development.google.com|otherdomain.net|dev02.otherdomain.net)$" AccessControlAllowOrigin=$0 Header add Access-Control-Allow-Origin %{AccessControlAllowOrigin}e env=AccessControlAllowOrigin </IfModule> </FilesMatch>

  2. you can have ajax request to a php file in your server and handle request to another domain using this php file.

  3. you can use jsonp , because it doesn't need permission. for this you can read our friend @BGerrissen answer.

How to round up a number to nearest 10?

There are many anwers in this question, probably all will give you the answer you are looking for. But as @TallGreenTree mentions, there is a function for this.

But the problem of the answer of @TallGreenTree is that it doesn't round up, it rounds to the nearest 10. To solve this, add +5 to your number in order to round up. If you want to round down, do -5.

So in code:

round($num + 5, -1);

You can't use the round mode for rounding up, because that only rounds up fractions and not whole numbers.

If you want to round up to the nearest 100, you shoud use +50.

encrypt and decrypt md5

This question is tagged with PHP. But many people are using Laravel framework now. It might help somebody in future. That's why I answering for Laravel. It's more easy to encrypt and decrypt with internal functions.

$string = 'c4ca4238a0b923820dcc';
$encrypted = \Illuminate\Support\Facades\Crypt::encrypt($string);
$decrypted_string = \Illuminate\Support\Facades\Crypt::decrypt($encrypted);

var_dump($string);
var_dump($encrypted);
var_dump($decrypted_string);

Note: Be sure to set a 16, 24, or 32 character random string in the key option of the config/app.php file. Otherwise, encrypted values will not be secure.

But you should not use encrypt and decrypt for authentication. Rather you should use hash make and check.

To store password in database, make hash of password and then save.

$password = Input::get('password_from_user');
$hashed = Hash::make($password); // save $hashed value

To verify password, get password stored of account from database

// $user is database object
// $inputs is Input from user
if( \Illuminate\Support\Facades\Hash::check( $inputs['password'], $user['password']) == false) {
  // Password is not matching
} else {
  // Password is matching
}

Difference between database and schema

Database is like container of data with schema, and schemas is layout of the tables there data types, relations and stuff

Javascript to check whether a checkbox is being checked or unchecked

I am not sure what the problem is, but I am pretty sure this will fix it.

            } else {
                arrChecks[i].checked = 0;
            }

        } else {
            arrChecks[i].checked = 0;
        }

            }

Get a list of checked checkboxes in a div using jQuery

$("#checkboxes").children("input:checked")

will give you an array of the elements themselves. If you just specifically need the names:

$("#checkboxes").children("input:checked").map(function() {

});

Unsupported major.minor version 52.0 in my app

Thanks everyone for solution.

I could solve my same problem using below solution.

In my project, I added jar which were created in Java8. And my project was referring to JRE 7. When i changed project JRE to 8. My problem solved.

Steps: In eclipse, right click on project name in project explorer > build path > Libraries > click on jre version > click edit > installed JRE > add > standerd VM > select JRE home click-path (path should be localePath\java\jdk1.8.0_25\jre) > provide name > save > select same JRE for project > finish > ok Refresh/build project once > try to run your java file. it should work.

How to find when a web page was last updated

No, you cannot know when a page was last updated or last changed or uploaded to a server (which might, depending on interpretation, be three different things) just by accessing the page.

A server may, and should (according to the HTTP 1.1 protocol), send a Last-Modified header, which you can find out in several ways, e.g. using Rex Swain’s HTTP Viewer. However, according to the protocol, this is just

“the date and time at which the origin server believes the variant was last modified”.

And the protocol realistically adds:

“The exact meaning of this header field depends on the implementation of the origin server and the nature of the original resource. For files, it may be just the file system last-modified time. For entities with dynamically included parts, it may be the most recent of the set of last-modify times for its component parts. For database gateways, it may be the last-update time stamp of the record. For virtual objects, it may be the last time the internal state changed.”

In practice, web pages are very often dynamically created from a Content Management System or otherwise, and in such cases, the Last-Modified header typically shows a data stamp of creating the response, which is normally very close to the time of the request. This means that the header is practically useless in such cases.

Even in the case of a “static” page (the server simply picks up a file matching the request and sends it), the Last-Modified date stamp normally indicates just the last write access to the file on the server. This might relate to a time when the file was restored from a backup copy, or a time when the file was edited on the server without making any change to the content, or a time when it was uploaded onto the server, possibly replacing an older identical copy. In these cases, assuming that the time stamp is technically correct, it indicates a time after which the page has not been changed (but not necessarily the time of last change).

Detect Close windows event by jQuery

You can solve this problem with vanilla-Js:

Unload Basics

If you want to prompt or warn your user that they're going to close your page, you need to add code that sets .returnValue on a beforeunload event:

    window.addEventListener('beforeunload', (event) => {
      event.returnValue = `Are you sure you want to leave?`;
    });

There's two things to remember.

  1. Most modern browsers (Chrome 51+, Safari 9.1+ etc) will ignore what you say and just present a generic message. This prevents webpage authors from writing egregious messages, e.g., "Closing this tab will make your computer EXPLODE! ".

  2. Showing a prompt isn't guaranteed. Just like playing audio on the web, browsers can ignore your request if a user hasn't interacted with your page. As a user, imagine opening and closing a tab that you never switch to—the background tab should not be able to prompt you that it's closing.

Optionally Show

You can add a simple condition to control whether to prompt your user by checking something within the event handler. This is fairly basic good practice, and could work well if you're just trying to warn a user that they've not finished filling out a single static form. For example:

    let formChanged = false;
    myForm.addEventListener('change', () => formChanged = true);
    window.addEventListener('beforeunload', (event) => {
      if (formChanged) {
        event.returnValue = 'You have unfinished changes!';
      }
    });

But if your webpage or webapp is reasonably complex, these kinds of checks can get unwieldy. Sure, you can add more and more checks, but a good abstraction layer can help you and have other benefits—which I'll get to later. ???

Promises

So, let's build an abstraction layer around the Promise object, which represents the future result of work- like a response from a network fetch().

The traditional way folks are taught promises is to think of them as a single operation, perhaps requiring several steps- fetch from the server, update the DOM, save to a database. However, by sharing the Promise, other code can leverage it to watch when it's finished.

Pending Work

Here's an example of keeping track of pending work. By calling addToPendingWork with a Promise—for example, one returned from fetch()—we'll control whether to warn the user that they're going to unload your page.

    const pendingOps = new Set();

    window.addEventListener('beforeunload', (event) => {
      if (pendingOps.size) {
        event.returnValue = 'There is pending work. Sure you want to leave?';
      }
    });

    function addToPendingWork(promise) {
      pendingOps.add(promise);
      const cleanup = () => pendingOps.delete(promise);
      promise.then(cleanup).catch(cleanup);
    }

Now, all you need to do is call addToPendingWork(p) on a promise, maybe one returned from fetch(). This works well for network operations and such- they naturally return a Promise because you're blocked on something outside the webpage's control.

Hope that can solve your problem.

Compare two List<T> objects for equality, ignoring order

try this!!!

using following code you could compare one or many fields to generate a result list as per your need. result list will contain only modified item(s).

// veriables been used
List<T> diffList = new List<T>();
List<T> gotResultList = new List<T>();

// compare First field within my MyList
gotResultList = MyList1.Where(a => !MyList2.Any(a1 => a1.MyListTField1 == a.MyListTField1)).ToList().Except(gotResultList.Where(a => !MyList2.Any(a1 => a1.MyListTField1 == a.MyListTField1))).ToList();
// Generate result list
diffList.AddRange(gotResultList);

// compare Second field within my MyList
gotResultList = MyList1.Where(a => !MyList2.Any(a1 => a1.MyListTField2 == a.MyListTField2)).ToList().Except(gotResultList.Where(a => !MyList2.Any(a1 => a1.MyListTField2 == a.MyListTField2))).ToList();
// Generate result list
diffList.AddRange(gotResultList);

MessageBox.Show(diffList.Count.ToString);

ERROR 2006 (HY000): MySQL server has gone away

I've tried all of above solutions, all failed.

I ended up with using -h 127.0.0.1 instead of using default var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock.

Center/Set Zoom of Map to cover all visible Markers?

There is this MarkerClusterer client side utility available for google Map as specified here on Google Map developer Articles, here is brief on what's it's usage:

There are many approaches for doing what you asked for:

  • Grid based clustering
  • Distance based clustering
  • Viewport Marker Management
  • Fusion Tables
  • Marker Clusterer
  • MarkerManager

You can read about them on the provided link above.

Marker Clusterer uses Grid Based Clustering to cluster all the marker wishing the grid. Grid-based clustering works by dividing the map into squares of a certain size (the size changes at each zoom) and then grouping the markers into each grid square.

Before Clustering Before Clustering

After Clustering After Clustering

I hope this is what you were looking for & this will solve your problem :)

How to handle a single quote in Oracle SQL

Use two single-quotes

SQL> SELECT 'D''COSTA' name FROM DUAL;

NAME
-------
D'COSTA

Alternatively, use the new (10g+) quoting method:

SQL> SELECT q'$D'COSTA$' NAME FROM DUAL;

NAME
-------
D'COSTA

Use ffmpeg to add text subtitles

You are trying to mux subtitles as a subtitle stream. It is easy but different syntax is used for MP4 (or M4V) and MKV. In both cases you must specify video and audio codec, or just copy stream if you just want to add subtitle.

MP4:

ffmpeg -i input.mp4 -f srt -i input.srt \
-map 0:0 -map 0:1 -map 1:0 -c:v copy -c:a copy \
-c:s mov_text output.mp4

MKV:

ffmpeg -i input.mp4 -f srt -i input.srt \
-map 0:0 -map 0:1 -map 1:0 -c:v copy -c:a copy \
-c:s srt  output.mkv

COUNT DISTINCT with CONDITIONS

This may also work:

SELECT
    COUNT(DISTINCT T.tag) as DistinctTag,
    COUNT(DISTINCT T2.tag) as DistinctPositiveTag
FROM Table T
    LEFT JOIN Table T2 ON T.tag = T2.tag AND T.entryID = T2.entryID AND T2.entryID > 0

You need the entryID condition in the left join rather than in a where clause in order to make sure that any items that only have a entryID of 0 get properly counted in the first DISTINCT.

How to output only captured groups with sed?

run(s) of digits

This answer works with any count of digit groups. Example:

$ echo 'Num123that456are7899900contained0018166intext' \
   | sed -En 's/[^0-9]*([0-9]{1,})[^0-9]*/\1 /gp'

123 456 7899900 0018166

Expanded answer.

Is there any way to tell sed to output only captured groups?

Yes. replace all text by the capture group:

$ echo 'Number 123 inside text' \
   | sed 's/[^0-9]*\([0-9]\{1,\}\)[^0-9]*/\1/'

123
s/[^0-9]*                           # several non-digits
         \([0-9]\{1,\}\) # followed by one or more digits
                        [^0-9]*     # and followed by more non-digits.
                               /\1/ # gets replaced only by the digits.

Or with extended syntax (less backquotes and allow the use of +):

$ echo 'Number 123 in text' \
   | sed -E 's/[^0-9]*([0-9]+)[^0-9]*/\1/'

123

To avoid printing the original text when there is no number, use:

$ echo 'Number xxx in text' \
   | sed -En 's/[^0-9]*([0-9]+)[^0-9]*/\1/p'
  • (-n) Do not print the input by default.
  • (/p) print only if a replacement was done.

And to match several numbers (and also print them):

$ echo 'N 123 in 456 text' \
  | sed -En 's/[^0-9]*([0-9]+)[^0-9]*/\1 /gp'

123 456

That works for any count of digit runs:

$ str='Test Num(s) 123 456 7899900 contained as0018166df in text'
$ echo "$str" \
   | sed -En 's/[^0-9]*([0-9]{1,})[^0-9]*/\1 /gp'

123 456 7899900 0018166

Which is very similar to the grep command:

$ str='Test Num(s) 123 456 7899900 contained as0018166df in text'
$ echo "$str" | grep -Po '\d+'
123
456
7899900
0018166

About \d

and pattern: /([\d]+)/

Sed does not recognize the '\d' (shortcut) syntax. The ascii equivalent used above [0-9] is not exactly equivalent. The only alternative solution is to use a character class: '[[:digit:]]`.

The selected answer use such "character classes" to build a solution:

$ str='This is a sample 123 text and some 987 numbers'
$ echo "$str" | sed -rn 's/[^[:digit:]]*([[:digit:]]+)[^[:digit:]]+([[:digit:]]+)[^[:digit:]]*/\1 \2/p'

That solution only works for (exactly) two runs of digits.

Of course, as the answer is being executed inside the shell, we can define a couple of variables to make such answer shorter:

$ str='This is a sample 123 text and some 987 numbers'
$ d=[[:digit:]]     D=[^[:digit:]]
$ echo "$str" | sed -rn "s/$D*($d+)$D+($d+)$D*/\1 \2/p"

But, as has been already explained, using a s/…/…/gp command is better:

$ str='This is 75577 a sam33ple 123 text and some 987 numbers'
$ d=[[:digit:]]     D=[^[:digit:]]
$ echo "$str" | sed -rn "s/$D*($d+)$D*/\1 /gp"
75577 33 123 987

That will cover both repeated runs of digits and writing a short(er) command.

How to temporarily disable a click handler in jQuery?

This is a more idiomatic alternative to the artificial state variable solutions:

$("#button_id").one('click', DoSomething);

function DoSomething() {
  // do something.

  $("#button_id").one('click', DoSomething);
}

One will only execute once (until attached again). More info here: http://docs.jquery.com/Events/one

React Native: Getting the position of an element

I had a similar problem and solved it by combining the answers above

class FeedPost extends React.Component {
  constructor(props) {
    ...
    this.handleLayoutChange = this.handleLayoutChange.bind(this);
  }

handleLayoutChange() {
    this.feedPost.measure( (fx, fy, width, height, px, py) => {
      console.log('Component width is: ' + width)
      console.log('Component height is: ' + height)
      console.log('X offset to page: ' + px)
      console.log('Y offset to page: ' + py)
    })
  }

  render {
    return(
      <View onLayout={(event) => {this.handleLayoutChange(event) }}
      ref={view => { this.feedPost = view; }} >
...

Now I can see the position of my feedPost element in the logs:

08-24 11:15:36.838  3727 27838 I ReactNativeJS: Component height is: 206

How do I convert from int to Long in Java?

I had a great deal of trouble with this. I just wanted to:

thisBill.IntervalCount = jPaidCountSpinner.getValue();

Where IntervalCount is a Long, and the JSpinner was set to return a Long. Eventually I had to write this function:

    public static final Long getLong(Object obj) throws IllegalArgumentException {
    Long rv;

    if((obj.getClass() == Integer.class) || (obj.getClass() == Long.class) || (obj.getClass() == Double.class)) {
        rv = Long.parseLong(obj.toString());
    }
    else if((obj.getClass() == int.class) || (obj.getClass() == long.class) || (obj.getClass() == double.class)) {
        rv = (Long) obj;
    }
    else if(obj.getClass() == String.class) {
        rv = Long.parseLong(obj.toString());
    }
    else {
        throw new IllegalArgumentException("getLong: type " + obj.getClass() + " = \"" + obj.toString() + "\" unaccounted for");
    }

    return rv;
}

which seems to do the trick. No amount of simple casting, none of the above solutions worked for me. Very frustrating.

How can I read comma separated values from a text file in Java?

You may use the String.split() method:

String[] tokens = str.split(",");

After that, use Double.parseDouble() method to parse the string value to a double.

double latitude = Double.parseDouble(tokens[0]);
double longitude = Double.parseDouble(tokens[1]);

Similar parse methods exist in the other wrapper classes as well - Integer, Boolean, etc.

How to declare std::unique_ptr and what is the use of it?

There is no difference in working in both the concepts of assignment to unique_ptr.

int* intPtr = new int(3);
unique_ptr<int> uptr (intPtr);

is similar to

unique_ptr<int> uptr (new int(3));

Here unique_ptr automatically deletes the space occupied by uptr.

how pointers, declared in this way will be different from the pointers declared in a "normal" way.

If you create an integer in heap space (using new keyword or malloc), then you will have to clear that memory on your own (using delete or free respectively).

In the below code,

int* heapInt = new int(5);//initialize int in heap memory
.
.//use heapInt
.
delete heapInt;

Here, you will have to delete heapInt, when it is done using. If it is not deleted, then memory leakage occurs.

In order to avoid such memory leaks unique_ptr is used, where unique_ptr automatically deletes the space occupied by heapInt when it goes out of scope. So, you need not do delete or free for unique_ptr.

Convert an enum to List<string>

Use Enum's static method, GetNames. It returns a string[], like so:

Enum.GetNames(typeof(DataSourceTypes))

If you want to create a method that does only this for only one type of enum, and also converts that array to a List, you can write something like this:

public List<string> GetDataSourceTypes()
{
    return Enum.GetNames(typeof(DataSourceTypes)).ToList();
}

You will need Using System.Linq; at the top of your class to use .ToList()

What is object slicing?

Slicing means that the data added by a subclass are discarded when an object of the subclass is passed or returned by value or from a function expecting a base class object.

Explanation: Consider the following class declaration:

           class baseclass
          {
                 ...
                 baseclass & operator =(const baseclass&);
                 baseclass(const baseclass&);
          }
          void function( )
          {
                baseclass obj1=m;
                obj1=m;
          }

As baseclass copy functions don't know anything about the derived only the base part of the derived is copied. This is commonly referred to as slicing.

python catch exception and continue try block

You can achieve what you want, but with a different syntax. You can use a "finally" block after the try/except. Doing this way, python will execute the block of code regardless the exception was thrown, or not.

Like this:

try:
    do_smth1()
except:
    pass
finally:
    do_smth2()

But, if you want to execute do_smth2() only if the exception was not thrown, use a "else" block:

try:
    do_smth1()
except:
    pass
else:
    do_smth2()

You can mix them too, in a try/except/else/finally clause. Have fun!

Store boolean value in SQLite

SQLite Boolean Datatype:
SQLite does not have a separate Boolean storage class. Instead, Boolean values are stored as integers 0 (false) and 1 (true).

You can convert boolean to int in this way:

int flag = (boolValue)? 1 : 0;

You can convert int back to boolean as follows:

 // Select COLUMN_NAME values from db.
 // This will be integer value, you can convert this int value back to Boolean as follows
Boolean flag2 = (intValue == 1)? true : false;

If you want to explore sqlite, here is a tutorial.
I have given one answer here. It is working for them.

Creating your own header file in C

#ifndef MY_HEADER_H
# define MY_HEADER_H

//put your function headers here

#endif

MY_HEADER_H serves as a double-inclusion guard.

For the function declaration, you only need to define the signature, that is, without parameter names, like this:

int foo(char*);

If you really want to, you can also include the parameter's identifier, but it's not necessary because the identifier would only be used in a function's body (implementation), which in case of a header (parameter signature), it's missing.

This declares the function foo which accepts a char* and returns an int.

In your source file, you would have:

#include "my_header.h"

int foo(char* name) {
   //do stuff
   return 0;
}

Rendering JSON in controller

What exactly do you want to know? ActiveRecord has methods that serialize records into JSON. For instance, open up your rails console and enter ModelName.all.to_json and you will see JSON output. render :json essentially calls to_json and returns the result to the browser with the correct headers. This is useful for AJAX calls in JavaScript where you want to return JavaScript objects to use. Additionally, you can use the callback option to specify the name of the callback you would like to call via JSONP.

For instance, lets say we have a User model that looks like this: {name: 'Max', email:' [email protected]'}

We also have a controller that looks like this:

class UsersController < ApplicationController
    def show
        @user = User.find(params[:id])
        render json: @user
    end
end

Now, if we do an AJAX call using jQuery like this:

$.ajax({
    type: "GET",
    url: "/users/5",
    dataType: "json",
    success: function(data){
        alert(data.name) // Will alert Max
    }
});

As you can see, we managed to get the User with id 5 from our rails app and use it in our JavaScript code because it was returned as a JSON object. The callback option just calls a JavaScript function of the named passed with the JSON object as the first and only argument.

To give an example of the callback option, take a look at the following:

class UsersController < ApplicationController
    def show
        @user = User.find(params[:id])
        render json: @user, callback: "testFunction"
    end
end

Now we can crate a JSONP request as follows:

function testFunction(data) {
    alert(data.name); // Will alert Max
};

var script = document.createElement("script");
script.src = "/users/5";

document.getElementsByTagName("head")[0].appendChild(script);

The motivation for using such a callback is typically to circumvent the browser protections that limit cross origin resource sharing (CORS). JSONP isn't used that much anymore, however, because other techniques exist for circumventing CORS that are safer and easier.

CSS file not refreshing in browser

Since I found this thread having the same problem, 10 YEARS later, I'll add my own solution too. I use PHP most of the time, and rather than requiring the user to press unusual buttons to refresh the page, or myself to remember to bump a version number embedded in a link, I used the filemtime() function to get the modification time of the css file (as a unix timestamp), and then use THAT number as the parameter.

$FILE_TIME = filemtime("main.css");
$CSS_LINK  = "main.css?version=$FILE_TIME";

While results in a URL like:

http://example.com/blah/main.css?version=1602937140

This entirely disables caching, since every time the page is refreshed, it will believe it needs to grab the CSS file again, changed or not... but that's far less frustrating than forgetting to manually update this trick and wasting time wondering why it isn't right. You can always remove it from a production server.

If you are using plain HTML, you could probably engineer a javascript wrapper or some such, but that's probably more trouble than it's worth.

If anyone is looking out for using it to apply on the react then you can follow the code pattern given below. You have to add extra property which is rel.

<a href="mysite.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" >Click me to open in new Window</a>

How to fix committing to the wrong Git branch?

So if your scenario is that you've committed to master but meant to commit to another-branch (which may or not may not already exist) but you haven't pushed yet, this is pretty easy to fix.

// if your branch doesn't exist, then add the -b argument
git checkout -b another-branch
git branch --force master origin/master

Now all your commits to master will be on another-branch.

Font Awesome not working, icons showing as squares

Starting in version 5, if you downloaded the package from this site:

https://fontawesome.com/download

The fonts are in the all.css and all.min.css file.

This is what your reference would look like using the latest version now (replace with your folder):

Razor-based view doesn't see referenced assemblies

For me I was referencing a project that was a console application. It was set to build as an exe (console application) instead of class library (DLL). When I changed this I was able to see the models from that separate project no problem.

How to set Bullet colors in UL/LI html lists via CSS without using any images or span tags

browsing sometime ago, found this site, have you tried this alternative?

li{
    list-style-image: url("data:image/png;base64,iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAAAQAAAAECAYAAACp8Z5+AAAAE0lEQVQIW2NkYGD4D8RwwEi6AACaVAQBULo4sgAAAABJRU5ErkJggg==");
}

sounds hard, but you can make your own png image/pattern here, then copy/paste your code and customize your bullets =) stills elegant?

EDIT:

following the idea of @lea-verou on the other answer and applying this philosophy of outside sources enhancement I've come to this other solution:

  1. embed in your head the stylesheet of the Webfont icons Library, in this case Font Awesome:

<link rel="stylesheet" href="https://maxcdn.bootstrapcdn.com/font-awesome/4.4.0/css/font-awesome.min.css">

  1. take a code from FontAwesome cheatsheet (or any other webfont icons).
i.e.:
fa-angle-right [&#xf105;]

and use the last part of f... followed by a number like this, with the font-family too:

li:before {
    content: "\f105";
    font-family: FontAwesome;
    color: red; /* or whatever color you prefer */
    margin-right: 4px;
}

and that's it! now you have custom bullet tips too =)

Undo a Git merge that hasn't been pushed yet

See chapter 4 in the Git book and the original post by Linus Torvalds.

To undo a merge that was already pushed:

Be sure to revert the revert if you're committing the branch again, like Linus said.

Log4j, configuring a Web App to use a relative path

You can specify relative path to the log file, using the work directory:

appender.file.fileName = ${sys:user.dir}/log/application.log

This is independent from the servlet container and does not require passing custom variable to the system environment.

How to: Add/Remove Class on mouseOver/mouseOut - JQuery .hover?

How to get the filename without the extension in Java?

While I am a big believer in reusing libraries, the org.apache.commons.io JAR is 174KB, which is noticably large for a mobile app.

If you download the source code and take a look at their FilenameUtils class, you can see there are a lot of extra utilities, and it does cope with Windows and Unix paths, which is all lovely.

However, if you just want a couple of static utility methods for use with Unix style paths (with a "/" separator), you may find the code below useful.

The removeExtension method preserves the rest of the path along with the filename. There is also a similar getExtension.

/**
 * Remove the file extension from a filename, that may include a path.
 *
 * e.g. /path/to/myfile.jpg -> /path/to/myfile
 */
public static String removeExtension(String filename) {
    if (filename == null) {
        return null;
    }

    int index = indexOfExtension(filename);

    if (index == -1) {
        return filename;
    } else {
        return filename.substring(0, index);
    }
}

/**
 * Return the file extension from a filename, including the "."
 *
 * e.g. /path/to/myfile.jpg -> .jpg
 */
public static String getExtension(String filename) {
    if (filename == null) {
        return null;
    }

    int index = indexOfExtension(filename);

    if (index == -1) {
        return filename;
    } else {
        return filename.substring(index);
    }
}

private static final char EXTENSION_SEPARATOR = '.';
private static final char DIRECTORY_SEPARATOR = '/';

public static int indexOfExtension(String filename) {

    if (filename == null) {
        return -1;
    }

    // Check that no directory separator appears after the
    // EXTENSION_SEPARATOR
    int extensionPos = filename.lastIndexOf(EXTENSION_SEPARATOR);

    int lastDirSeparator = filename.lastIndexOf(DIRECTORY_SEPARATOR);

    if (lastDirSeparator > extensionPos) {
        LogIt.w(FileSystemUtil.class, "A directory separator appears after the file extension, assuming there is no file extension");
        return -1;
    }

    return extensionPos;
}

Function for 'does matrix contain value X?'

you can do:

A = randi(10, [3 4]);      %# a random matrix
any( A(:)==5 )             %# does A contain 5?

To do the above in a vectorized way, use:

any( bsxfun(@eq, A(:), [5 7 11] )

or as @woodchips suggests:

ismember([5 7 11], A)

How can I delete a user in linux when the system says its currently used in a process

Only solution that worked for me

$ sudo killall -u username && sudo deluser --remove-home -f username

The killall command is used if multiple processes are used by the user you want to delete.

The -f option forces the removal of the user account, even if the user is still logged in. It also forces deluser to remove the user's home directory and mail spool, even if another user uses the same home directory.

Please confirm that it works in the comments.

setInterval in a React app

Updated 10-second countdown using class Clock extends Component

import React, { Component } from 'react';

class Clock extends Component {
  constructor(props){
    super(props);
    this.state = {currentCount: 10}
  }
  timer() {
    this.setState({

    })
    if(this.state.currentCount < 1) {
      clearInterval(this.intervalId);
    }
  }
  componentDidMount() {
    this.intervalId = setInterval(this.timer.bind(this), 1000);

  render() {
    return(
      <div>{this.state.currentCount}</div>
    );
  }

Hibernate Criteria Query to get specific columns

I like this approach because it is simple and clean:

    String getCompaniesIdAndName = " select "
            + " c.id as id, "
            + " c.name as name "
            + " from Company c ";

    @Query(value = getCompaniesWithoutAccount)
    Set<CompanyIdAndName> findAllIdAndName();

    public static interface CompanyIdAndName extends DTO {
        Integer getId();

        String getName();

How to "EXPIRE" the "HSET" child key in redis?

You can expire Redis hashes in ease, Eg using python

import redis
conn = redis.Redis('localhost')
conn.hmset("hashed_user", {'name': 'robert', 'age': 32})
conn.expire("hashed_user", 10)

This will expire all child keys in hash hashed_user after 10 seconds

same from redis-cli,

127.0.0.1:6379> HMSET testt username wlc password P1pp0 age 34
OK
127.0.0.1:6379> hgetall testt
1) "username"
2) "wlc"
3) "password"
4) "P1pp0"
5) "age"
6) "34"
127.0.0.1:6379> expire testt 10
(integer) 1
127.0.0.1:6379> hgetall testt
1) "username"
2) "wlc"
3) "password"
4) "P1pp0"
5) "age"
6) "34"

after 10 seconds

127.0.0.1:6379> hgetall testt
(empty list or set)

How to run a single RSpec test?

Another common mistake is to still have or have upgraded an older Rails app to Rails 5+ and be putting require 'spec_helper' at the top of each test file. This should changed to require 'rails_helper'. If you are seeing different behavior between the rake task (rake spec) and when you run a single spec (rspec path/to/spec.rb), this is a common reason

the best solution is to

1) make sure you are using require 'rails_helper' at the top of each of your spec files — not the older-style require 'spec_helper' 2) use the rake spec SPEC=path/to/spec.rb syntax

the older-style rspec path/to/spec.rb I think should be considered out-of-vogue by the community at this time in 2020 (but of course you will get it to work, other considerations aside)

Is it possible to install another version of Python to Virtualenv?

First of all, Thank you DTing for awesome answer. It's pretty much perfect.

For those who are suffering from not having GCC access in shared hosting, Go for ActivePython instead of normal python like Scott Stafford mentioned. Here are the commands for that.

wget http://downloads.activestate.com/ActivePython/releases/2.7.13.2713/ActivePython-2.7.13.2713-linux-x86_64-glibc-2.3.6-401785.tar.gz

tar -zxvf ActivePython-2.7.13.2713-linux-x86_64-glibc-2.3.6-401785.tar.gz

cd ActivePython-2.7.13.2713-linux-x86_64-glibc-2.3.6-401785

./install.sh

It will ask you path to python directory. Enter

../../.localpython

Just replace above as Step 1 in DTing's answer and go ahead with Step 2 after that. Please note that ActivePython package URL may change with new release. You can always get new URL from here : http://www.activestate.com/activepython/downloads

Based on URL you need to change the name of tar and cd command based on file received.

How to make an HTTP get request with parameters

First WebClient is easier to use; GET arguments are specified on the query-string - the only trick is to remember to escape any values:

        string address = string.Format(
            "http://foobar/somepage?arg1={0}&arg2={1}",
            Uri.EscapeDataString("escape me"),
            Uri.EscapeDataString("& me !!"));
        string text;
        using (WebClient client = new WebClient())
        {
            text = client.DownloadString(address);
        }

How to specify jackson to only use fields - preferably globally

Specifically for boolean is*() getters:

I've spend a lot of time on why neither below

  @JsonAutoDetect(fieldVisibility = Visibility.ANY, getterVisibility = Visibility.NONE, setterVisibility = Visibility.NONE)

nor this

  setVisibility(PropertyAccessor.SETTER, JsonAutoDetect.Visibility.NONE);
  setVisibility(PropertyAccessor.GETTER, JsonAutoDetect.Visibility.NONE);
  setVisibility(PropertyAccessor.FIELD, JsonAutoDetect.Visibility.ANY);

worked for my Boolean Getter/Setter.

Solution is simple:

  @JsonAutoDetect(isGetterVisibility = Visibility.NONE, ...
  setVisibility(PropertyAccessor.IS_GETTER, JsonAutoDetect.Visibility.NONE);

UPDATE: spring-boot allowed configure it:

jackson:
  visibility.field: any
  visibility.getter: none
  visibility.setter: none
  visibility.is-getter: none

See Common application properties # JACKSON

Installing RubyGems in Windows

I recommend you just use rubyinstaller

It is recommended by the official Ruby page - see https://www.ruby-lang.org/en/downloads/

Ways of Installing Ruby

We have several tools on each major platform to install Ruby:

  • On Linux/UNIX, you can use the package management system of your distribution or third-party tools (rbenv and RVM).
  • On OS X machines, you can use third-party tools (rbenv and RVM).
  • On Windows machines, you can use RubyInstaller.

How to check if there exists a process with a given pid in Python?

In Windows, you can do it in this way:

import ctypes
PROCESS_QUERY_INFROMATION = 0x1000
def checkPid(pid):
    processHandle = ctypes.windll.kernel32.OpenProcess(PROCESS_QUERY_INFROMATION, 0,pid)
    if processHandle == 0:
        return False
    else:
        ctypes.windll.kernel32.CloseHandle(processHandle)
    return True

First of all, in this code you try to get a handle for process with pid given. If the handle is valid, then close the handle for process and return True; otherwise, you return False. Documentation for OpenProcess: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/ms684320%28v=vs.85%29.aspx

Formatting html email for Outlook

To be able to give you specific help, you's have to explain what particular parts specifically "get messed up", or perhaps offer a screenshot. It also helps to know what version of Outlook you encounter the problem in.

Either way, CampaignMonitor.com's CSS guide has often helped me out debugging email client inconsistencies.

From that guide you can see several things just won't work well or at all in Outlook, here are some highlights of the more important ones:

  • Various types of more sophisticated selectors, e.g. E:first-child, E:hover, E > F (Child combinator), E + F (Adjacent sibling combinator), E ~ F (General sibling combinator). This unfortunately means resorting to workarounds like inline styles.
  • Some font properties, e.g. white-space won't work.
  • The background-image property won't work.
  • There are several issues with the Box Model properties, most importantly height, width, and the max- versions are either not usable or have bugs for certain elements.
  • Positioning and Display issues (e.g. display, floats and position are all out).

In short: combining CSS and Outlook can be a pain. Be prepared to use many ugly workarounds.

PS. In your specific case, there are two minor issues in your html that may cause you odd behavior. There's "align=top" where you probably meant to use vertical-align. Also: cell-padding for tds doesn't exist.

Change Select List Option background colour on hover

this is what you need, the child combinator:

    select>option:hover
    {
        color: #1B517E;
        cursor: pointer;
    }

Try it, works perfect.

Here's the reference: http://www.w3schools.com/css/css_combinators.asp

what exactly is device pixel ratio?

Short answer

The device pixel ratio is the ratio between physical pixels and logical pixels. For instance, the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S report a device pixel ratio of 2, because the physical linear resolution is double the logical linear resolution.

  • Physical resolution: 960 x 640
  • Logical resolution: 480 x 320

The formula is:

linres_p/linres_l

Where:

linres_p is the physical linear resolution

and:

linres_l is the logical linear resolution

Other devices report different device pixel ratios, including non-integer ones. For example, the Nokia Lumia 1020 reports 1.6667, the Samsumg Galaxy S4 reports 3, and the Apple iPhone 6 Plus reports 2.46 (source: dpilove). But this does not change anything in principle, as you should never design for any one specific device.

Discussion

The CSS "pixel" is not even defined as "one picture element on some screen", but rather as a non-linear angular measurement of 0.0213° viewing angle, which is approximately 1/96 of an inch at arm's length. Source: CSS Absolute Lengths

This has lots of implications when it comes to web design, such as preparing high-definition image resources and carefully applying different images at different device pixel ratios. You wouldn't want to force a low-end device to download a very high resolution image, only to downscale it locally. You also don't want high-end devices to upscale low resolution images for a blurry user experience.

If you are stuck with bitmap images, to accommodate for many different device pixel ratios, you should use CSS Media Queries to provide different sets of resources for different groups of devices. Combine this with nice tricks like background-size: cover or explicitly set the background-size to percentage values.

Example

#element { background-image: url('lores.png'); }

@media only screen and (min-device-pixel-ratio: 2) {
    #element { background-image: url('hires.png'); }
}

@media only screen and (min-device-pixel-ratio: 3) {
    #element { background-image: url('superhires.png'); }
}

This way, each device type only loads the correct image resource. Also keep in mind that the px unit in CSS always operates on logical pixels.

A case for vector graphics

As more and more device types appear, it gets trickier to provide all of them with adequate bitmap resources. In CSS, media queries is currently the only way, and in HTML5, the picture element lets you use different sources for different media queries, but the support is still not 100 % since most web developers still have to support IE11 for a while more (source: caniuse).

If you need crisp images for icons, line-art, design elements that are not photos, you need to start thinking about SVG, which scales beautifully to all resolutions.

String method cannot be found in a main class method

It seem like your Resort method doesn't declare a compareTo method. This method typically belongs to the Comparable interface. Make sure your class implements it.

Additionally, the compareTo method is typically implemented as accepting an argument of the same type as the object the method gets invoked on. As such, you shouldn't be passing a String argument, but rather a Resort.

Alternatively, you can compare the names of the resorts. For example

if (resortList[mid].getResortName().compareTo(resortName)>0)

MySql Proccesslist filled with "Sleep" Entries leading to "Too many Connections"?

Increasing number of max-connections will not solve the problem.

We were experiencing the same situation on our servers. This is what happens

User open a page/view, that connect to the database, query the database, still query(queries) were not finished and user leave the page or move to some other page. So the connection that was open, will remains open, and keep increasing number of connections, if there are more users connecting with the db and doing something similar.

Dynamically display a CSV file as an HTML table on a web page

phihag's answer puts each row in a single cell, while you are asking for each value to be in a separate cell. This seems to do it:

<?php
// Create a table from a csv file
echo "<html><body><table>\n\n";
$f = fopen("so-csv.csv", "r");
while (($line = fgetcsv($f)) !== false) {
        $row = $line[0]; // We need to get the actual row (it is the first element in a 1-element array)
        $cells = explode(";",$row);
        echo "<tr>";
        foreach ($cells as $cell) {
            echo "<td>" . htmlspecialchars($cell) . "</td>";
        }
        echo "</tr>\n";
}
fclose($f);
echo "\n</table></body></html>";

Is there an "if -then - else " statement in XPath?

Personally, I would use XSLT to transform the XML and remove the trailing colons. For example, suppose I have this input:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<Document>
    <Paragraph>This paragraph ends in a period.</Paragraph>
    <Paragraph>This one ends in a colon:</Paragraph>
    <Paragraph>This one has a : in the middle.</Paragraph>
</Document>

If I wanted to strip out trailing colons in my paragraphs, I would use this XSLT:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<xsl:stylesheet
    xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform"
    xmlns:fn="http://www.w3.org/2005/xpath-functions"
    version="2.0">
    <!-- identity -->
    <xsl:template match="/|@*|node()">
        <xsl:copy>
            <xsl:apply-templates select="@*|node()"/>
        </xsl:copy>
    </xsl:template>
    <!-- strip out colons at the end of paragraphs -->
    <xsl:template match="Paragraph">
        <xsl:choose>
            <!-- if it ends with a : -->
            <xsl:when test="fn:ends-with(.,':')">
                <xsl:copy>
                    <!-- copy everything but the last character -->
                    <xsl:value-of select="substring(., 1, string-length(.)-1)"></xsl:value-of>
                </xsl:copy>
            </xsl:when>
            <xsl:otherwise>
                <xsl:copy>
                    <xsl:apply-templates/>
                </xsl:copy>
            </xsl:otherwise>
        </xsl:choose>
    </xsl:template>
</xsl:stylesheet>

How do you configure HttpOnly cookies in tomcat / java webapps?

Update: The JSESSIONID stuff here is only for older containers. Please use jt's currently accepted answer unless you are using < Tomcat 6.0.19 or < Tomcat 5.5.28 or another container that does not support HttpOnly JSESSIONID cookies as a config option.

When setting cookies in your app, use

response.setHeader( "Set-Cookie", "name=value; HttpOnly");

However, in many webapps, the most important cookie is the session identifier, which is automatically set by the container as the JSESSIONID cookie.

If you only use this cookie, you can write a ServletFilter to re-set the cookies on the way out, forcing JSESSIONID to HttpOnly. The page at http://keepitlocked.net/archive/2007/11/05/java-and-httponly.aspx http://alexsmolen.com/blog/?p=16 suggests adding the following in a filter.

if (response.containsHeader( "SET-COOKIE" )) {
  String sessionid = request.getSession().getId();
  response.setHeader( "SET-COOKIE", "JSESSIONID=" + sessionid
                      + ";Path=/<whatever>; Secure; HttpOnly" );
}

but note that this will overwrite all cookies and only set what you state here in this filter.

If you use additional cookies to the JSESSIONID cookie, then you'll need to extend this code to set all the cookies in the filter. This is not a great solution in the case of multiple-cookies, but is a perhaps an acceptable quick-fix for the JSESSIONID-only setup.

Please note that as your code evolves over time, there's a nasty hidden bug waiting for you when you forget about this filter and try and set another cookie somewhere else in your code. Of course, it won't get set.

This really is a hack though. If you do use Tomcat and can compile it, then take a look at Shabaz's excellent suggestion to patch HttpOnly support into Tomcat.

Set timeout for ajax (jQuery)

Please read the $.ajax documentation, this is a covered topic.

$.ajax({
    url: "test.html",
    error: function(){
        // will fire when timeout is reached
    },
    success: function(){
        //do something
    },
    timeout: 3000 // sets timeout to 3 seconds
});

You can get see what type of error was thrown by accessing the textStatus parameter of the error: function(jqXHR, textStatus, errorThrown) option. The options are "timeout", "error", "abort", and "parsererror".

How to compare 2 files fast using .NET?

In addition to Reed Copsey's answer:

  • The worst case is where the two files are identical. In this case it's best to compare the files byte-by-byte.

  • If if the two files are not identical, you can speed things up a bit by detecting sooner that they're not identical.

For example, if the two files are of different length then you know they cannot be identical, and you don't even have to compare their actual content.

What is the suggested way to install brew, node.js, io.js, nvm, npm on OS X?

Here's what I do:

curl https://raw.githubusercontent.com/creationix/nvm/v0.20.0/install.sh | bash
cd / && . ~/.nvm/nvm.sh && nvm install 0.10.35
. ~/.nvm/nvm.sh && nvm alias default 0.10.35

No Homebrew for this one.

nvm soon will support io.js, but not at time of posting: https://github.com/creationix/nvm/issues/590

Then install everything else, per-project, with a package.json and npm install.

How do I determine if a checkbox is checked?

try learning jQuery it's a great place to start with javascript and it really simplifies your code and help separate your js from your html. include the js file from google's CDN (https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.4.4/jquery.min.js)

then in your script tag (still in the <head>) use:

$(function() {//code inside this function will run when the document is ready
    alert($('#lifecheck').is(':checked'));

    $('#lifecheck').change(function() {//do something when the user clicks the box
        alert(this.checked);
    });
});

How to make (link)button function as hyperlink?

There is a middle way. If you want a HTML control but you need to access it server side you can simply add the runat="server" attribute:

<a runat="server" Id="lnkBack">Back</a>

You can then alter the href server side using Attributes

protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
    if (!IsPostBack)
    {
       lnkBack.Attributes.Add("href", url);
    }
}

resulting in:

<a id="ctl00_ctl00_mainContentPlaceHolder_contentPlaceHolder_lnkBack"
      href="url.aspx">Back</a>

Eclipse IDE for Java - Full Dark Theme

Eclipse uses native OS controls for most UI aspects (buttons, menus, lists, etc.). That's where colors for most of the IDE come from. The first step in making a "dark IDE" is to modify your OS color theme. Then you can add the color themes plugin to complete the look.

Add animated Gif image in Iphone UIImageView

I know that an answer has already been approved, but its hard not to try to share that I've created an embedded framework that adds Gif support to iOS that feels just like if you were using any other UIKit Framework class.

Here's an example:

UIGifImage *gif = [[UIGifImage alloc] initWithData:imageData];
anUiImageView.image = gif;
