If you want to get the ASCII value of a character, or just convert it into an int, you need to cast from a char to an int.

What's casting? Casting is when we explicitly convert from one primitve data type, or a class, to another. Here's a brief example.

I don't think that one is better than the other in general; it depends on how you intend to use it.

• If you want to store it in a DB column that has a charset/collation that does not support the right single quote character, you may run into storing it as the multi-byte character instead of 7-bit ASCII (’).
• If you are displaying it on an html element that specifies a charset that does not support it, it may not display in either case.
• If many developers are going to be editing/viewing this file with editors/keyboards that do not support properly typing or displaying the character, you may want to use the entity
• If you need to convert the file between various character encodings or formats, you may want to use the entity
• If your HTML code may escape entities improperly, you may want to use the character.

In general I would lean more towards using the character because as you point out it is easier to read and type.

Possibly off-topic, but maybe you came here looking for a way to sanitise text input from an HTML form, so that when a user inputs the apostrophe character, it doesn't throw an error when you try to write the text to an SQL-based table in a DB. There are a couple of ways to do this, and you might want to read about SQL injection too. Here's an example of using prepared statements and bound parameters in PHP:

It's an encoding problem. You have to set the correct encoding in the HTML head via meta tag:

I think the best way to do this is to use event.preventDefault() because if some exception is raised in the handler, then the return false statement will be skipped and the behavior will be opposite to what you want.

I can beat NormalizeWithSplitAndJoin every time, but only beat NormalizeWithRegex with inputs of 1000, 5.

Insights on the specifics of this situation

You give a particular file at a certain path and you pull the directory from the file path. Then after making sure you have the directory, you attempt to open a file for reading. To comment on this code:

We want to avoid overwriting the builtin function, dir. Also, filepath or perhaps fullfilepath is probably a better semantic name than filename so this would be better written:

Your end goal is to open this file, you initially state, for writing, but you're essentially approaching this goal (based on your code) like this, which opens the file for reading:

Just attempt to open the file.

If you also have configuration to be defined in a simple way by the application user/administrator, that's an additional reason to desire an IoC system that can read its components from something like a simple XML file (which would be the configuration).

The typical Python application is much simpler, just a bunch of scripts, without such a complex architecture. Personally I'm aware of what an IoC actually is (contrary to those who wrote certain answers here) and I've never felt the need for it in my limited Python experience (also I don't use Spring everywhere, not when the advantages it gives don't justify its development overhead).

That said, there are Python situations where the IoC approach is actually useful and, in fact, I read here that Django uses it.

The same reasoning above could be applied to Aspect Oriented Programming in the Java world, with the difference that the number of cases where AOP is really worthwhile is even more limited.

In my case, I needed to allow many inactives and only one combination of two keys active, like this:

So all URLs are URIs, and all URNs are URIs - but URNs and URLs are different, so you can't say that all URIs are URLs.

.project

When a project is created in the workspace, a project description file is automatically generated that describes the project. The sole purpose of this file is to make the project self-describing, so that a project that is zipped up or released to a server can be correctly recreated in another workspace.

.classpath

Classpath specifies which Java source files and resource files in a project are considered by the Java builder and specifies how to find types outside of the project. The Java builder compiles the Java source files into the output folder and also copies the resources into it.

GCC 4.9 introduces a newer C++ ABI version than your system libstdc++ has, so you need to tell the loader to use this newer version of the library by adding that path to LD_LIBRARY_PATH. Unfortunately, I cannot tell you straight off where the libstdc++ so for your GCC 4.9 installation is located, as this depends on how you configured GCC. So you need something in the style of:

You don't have to force yourself to remember differences between them. Think of how you actually made a commit.

Soft, Mixed and Hard is the way enabling you to give up the operations you did from 3 to 1.

Use git reset HEAD to reset the index without removing files. (If you only want to reset a particular file in the index, you can use git reset HEAD -- /path/to/file to do so.)

The pipe operator, in a shell, takes the stdout of the process on the left and passes it as stdin to the process on the right. It's essentially the equivalent of:

You have to decide if:

1. You want to show the raw JSON (not an HTML page), as in your example
2. Show an HTML page with formatted JSON

If you want 1., just tell your application to render a response body with the JSON, set the MIME type (application/json), etc. In this case, formatting is dealt by the browser (and/or browser plugins)

If 2., it's a matter of rendering a simple minimal HTML page with the JSON where you can highlight it in several ways:

• server-side, depending on your stack. There are solutions for almost every language
• client-side with Javascript highlight libraries.

If you give more details about your stack, it's easier to provide examples or resources.

EDIT: For client side JS highlighting you can try higlight.js, for instance.

np.fromfile() has a sep= keyword argument:

Separator between items if file is a text file. Empty (“”) separator means the file should be treated as binary. Spaces (” ”) in the separator match zero or more whitespace characters. A separator consisting only of spaces must match at least one whitespace.

The default value of sep="" means that np.fromfile() tries to read it as a binary file rather than a space-separated text file, so you get nonsense values back. If you use np.fromfile('markers.txt', sep=" ") you will get the result you are looking for.

However, as others have pointed out, np.loadtxt() is the preferred way to convert text files to numpy arrays, and unless the file needs to be human-readable it is usually better to use binary formats instead (e.g. np.load()/np.save()).

In your specific case (TableDefs) iterating over the collection and checking the Name is a good approach. This is OK because the key for the collection (Name) is a property of the class in the collection.

But in the general case of VBA collections, the key will not necessarily be part of the object in the collection (e.g. you could be using a Collection as a dictionary, with a key that has nothing to do with the object in the collection). In this case, you have no choice but to try accessing the item and catching the error.

I don't think you can downcast an object, however there is a simple way to "downcast" the object outside the box. It isn't type safe, but it works. First serialize the object into json, then deserialize it into the child class object. It works the same as if you were passing the object between apis. So, while there are some people who may say "this doesn't work or isn't good", I would argue that it is exactly the way our internet currently works, so... why not use that method? No mapping required as long as parameter names are the same, and they will be if it is a child class. Note: This will likely not copy any private fields; if you have a constructor with parameters, this probably needs to be tested as well to ensure there aren't side effects.

You want to rely on commas because if you rely on the multiple assignment construct, you'll shoot yourself in the foot at one point or another.

They all refer to the same object in memory, they are not "unique" since anytime you make a reference to an object ( array, object literal, function ) it's passed by reference and not value. So if you change just one of those variables, and wanted them to act individually you will not get what you want because they are not individual objects.

There is also a downside in multiple assignment, in that the secondary variables become globals, and you don't want to leak into the global namespace.

Why do you need a span in this case? If you want to style the height could you just use a div? You might try a div with display: inline, although that might have the same issue since you'd in effect be doing the same thing as a span.

The proper interval to get one second is 1000. The Interval property is the time between ticks in milliseconds:

So, it's not the interval that you set that is wrong. Check the rest of your code for something like changing the interval of the timer, or binding the Tick event multiple times.

The best way is to build your script in a way it cannot create any errors! When there is something that can create a Notice or an Error there is something wrong with your script and the checking of variables and environment!

I created a div element which has the same size as the image and is positioned on top of the image. Then, the mouse events do not go to the image element.

We don't actually "access the user's clipboard", instead we help the user out a bit by selecting something useful when they press Ctrl+C.

Sounds like you've figured it out; we take advantage of the fact that when you want to hit Ctrl+C, you have to hit the Ctrl key first. When the Ctrl key is pressed, we pop in a textarea that contains the text we want to end up on the clipboard, and select all the text in it, so the selection is all set when the C key is hit. (Then we hide the textarea when the Ctrl key comes up.)

Instead of accepting a self parameter, class methods take a cls parameter that points to the class—and not the object instance—when the method is called. This depends on what shell you are using. If you are using bash, then the ulimit command controls several settings relating to program execution, such as whether you should dump core. If you type

Simply, the "Real Time" priority class is higher than "High" priority class. I don't think there's much more to it than that. Oh yeah - you have to have the SeIncreaseBasePriorityPrivilege to put a thread into the Real Time class.

Windows will sometimes boost the priority of a thread for various reasons, but it won't boost the priority of a thread into another priority class. It also won't boost the priority of threads in the real-time priority class. So a High priority thread won't get any automatic temporary boost into the Real Time priority class.

Note that there's absolutely no problem with a thread having a Real-time priority on a normal Windows system - they aren't necessarily for special processes running on dedicatd machines. I imagine that multimedia drivers and/or processes might need threads with a real-time priority. However, such a thread should not require much CPU - it should be blocking most of the time in order for normal system events to get processing.

I had a similar issue. I had an image and wanted to reduce the transparency and have a black background behind the image. Instead of reducing the opacity or creating a black background or any secondary div I set a linear-gradient to the image all on one line:

Rob's answer (most voted above) is correct. I would like to add that in some situations using IDs is useful as it allows for comparison of objects and finding which objects refer to your objects.

The later usually helps you for example to debug strange bugs where mutable objects are passed as parameter to say classes and are assigned to local vars in a class. Mutating those objects will mutate vars in a class. This manifests itself in strange behavior where multiple things change at the same time.

Underscores in variable names are used to prevent name colisions. Functions use "fromwhere" argument so that you can let them know where to start searching for references. This argument is filled by a function that lists all names in a given namespace. Globals() is one such function.

I think an easier way to think about modulus is what remains after a dividend (number to be divided) has been fully divided by a divisor. So if we think about 5%7, when you divide 5 by 7, 7 can go into 5 only 0 times and when you subtract 0 (7*0) from 5 (just like we learnt back in elementary school), then the remainder would be 5 ( the mod). Well, the only way I can think of doing everything you want is pretty ugly. First perform an AJAX call to retrieve the Javascript file contents. When this completes you can check the status code to decide if this was successful or not. Then take the responseText from the xhr object and wrap it in a try/catch, dynamically create a script tag, and for IE you can set the text property of the script tag to the JS text, in all other browsers you should be able to append a text node with the contents to script tag. If there's any code that expects a script tag to actually contain the src location of the file, this won't work, but it should be fine for most situations.

You can't do a bulk-update in SSIS within a dataflow task with the OOB components.

The general pattern is to identify your inserts, updates and deletes and push the updates and deletes to a staging table(s) and after the Dataflow Task, use a set-based update or delete in an Execute SQL Task. The Conculsion

However, after viewing the results in Chrome, the results are the opposite of what was expected. The dumber forwards linear search was a surprising 187 ms, 3850%, faster than the binary search. Evidently, Chrome somehow magically outsmarted the console.assert and optimized it away, or (more optimistically) Chrome internally uses numerical indexing system for the DOM, and this internal indexing system is exposed through the optimizations applied to Array.prototype.indexOf when used on a HTMLCollection object.

I would suggest you to use either an image or text. So, Remove the text and add it in your image(using Photoshop, maybe). Then, Use a width and height 100% for the image. it will do the trick. because the image can be resized based on the container. But, you have to manually resize the text. If you can provide the fiddle, I can help you achieve this.

Sending the same cookie value with ; expires appended will not destroy the cookie.

Invalidate the cookie by setting an empty value and include an expires field as well:

Set-Cookie: token=deleted; path=/; expires=Thu, 01 Jan 1970 00:00:00 GMT

Note that you cannot force all browsers to delete a cookie. The client can configure the browser in such a way that the cookie persists, even if it's expired. Setting the value as described above would solve this problem.

Check your BuildPath, it could be that you are referencing a library that does not exist anymore.

This is how you do it in Visual Studio 2010.

Because it is finicky, this can be quite painful, actually, because you are trying to do something so incredibly simple, but it isn't straight forward and there are many gotchas that Visual Studio doesn't tell you about. If at any point you feel angry or like you want to sink your teeth into a 2 by 4 and scream, by all means, please do so.

Gotchas:

• You need to use an .ico file. You cannot use a PNG image file for your executable's icon, it will not work. You must use .ico. There are web utilities that convert images to .ico files.
• The ico used for your exe will be the ico with the LOWEST RESOURCE ID. In order to change the .ico

1) Open VIEW > RESOURCE VIEW (in the middle of the VIEW menu), or press Ctrl+Shift+E to get it to appear.

2) In Resource view, right click the project name and say ADD > RESOURCE...

3) Assuming you have already generated an .ico file yourself, choose Icon from the list of crap that appears, then click IMPORT.

4) At this dialog *.ico files aren't listed, and you can't use a regular PNG or JPG image as an icon, so change the file filter to *.ico using the dropdown. Misleading UI, I know, I know.

5) If you compile your project now, it will automatically stick the .ico with the lowest ID (as listed in resource.h) as the icon of your .exe file.

6) If you load a bunch of ICO files into the project for whatever reason, be sure the .ico you want Visual Studio to use has the lowest id in resource.h. You can edit this file manually with no problems

A way to write a common subset of HTML and XHTML

In the hope of greater portability.

In HTML, <script> is magic escapes everything until </script> appears.

So you can write:

<script>x = '<br/>';

and <br/> won't be considered a tag.

This is why strings such as:

must be escaped like:

But XML (and thus XHTML, which is a "subset" of XML, unlike HTML), doesn't have that magic: <br/> would be seen as a tag.

<![CDATA[ is the XHTML way to say:

don't parse any tags until the next ]]>, consider it all a string

The // is added to make the CDATA work well in HTML as well.

In HTML <![CDATA[ is not magic, so it would be run by JavaScript. So // is used to comment it out.

The XHTML also sees the //, but will observe it as an empty comment line which is not a problem:

you can remove all newlines (or any other occurences of a substring for that matter) from a string using the .replace method

This line will replace all newlines with the empty string.

With Windows 8, Microsoft introduced the Windows Desktop Duplication API. That is the officially recommended way of doing it. One nice feature it has for screencasting is that it detects window movement, so you can transmit block deltas when windows get moved around, instead of raw pixels. Also, it tells you which rectangles have changed, from one frame to the next.

You can use the Unix-style -l switch – typically terse and cryptic – or the equivalent --files-with-matches – longer and more readable.

The output of grep --help is not easy to read, but it's there:

I was in similar situations before and last time I found it was some Windows update issue(not sure). This time, I opened MySQL workbench and found no connection to my local database. I cannot see my tables, but yesterday I could connect to the database.

I found that my cause is that, after letting my computer sleeping for some time and wake it again, the mysql service is not running. My solution: restart the service named "mysql" and rerun the workbench. Restarting the service takes a while, but it works.

As @alucic mentioned, use:

composer require vendor/package:version

or you can use:

composer update vendor/package:version

You should probably review this StackOverflow post about differences between composer install and composer update.

Related to question about version numbers, you can review Composer documentation on versions, but here in short:

• Tilde Version Range (~) - ~1.2.3 is equivalent to >=1.2.3 <1.3.0
• Caret Version Range (^) - ^1.2.3 is equivalent to >=1.2.3 <2.0.0

So, with Tilde you will get automatic updates of patches but minor and major versions will not be updated. However, if you use Caret you will get patches and minor versions, but you will not get major (breaking changes) versions.

Tilde Version is considered a "safer" approach, but if you are using reliable dependencies (well-maintained libraries) you should not have any problems with Caret Version (because minor changes should not be breaking changes.

Simply put, if an exception or error is thrown, something's wrong. It may not be something very wrong, but creating, throwing, and catching errors and exceptions just for the sake of using goto statements is not a good idea, and it's rarely done. 99% of the time, there was a problem somewhere.

Problems need to be dealt with. Just like how it is in life, in programming, if you just leave problems alone and try to ignore them, they don't just go away on their own a lot of times; instead they get bigger and multiply. To prevent a problem from growing on you and striking again further down the road, you either 1) eliminate it and clean up the mess afterwards, or 2) contain it and clean up the mess afterwards.

Just ignoring exceptions and errors and leaving them be like that is a good way to experience memory leaks, outstanding database connections, needless locks on file permissions, etc.

On rare occasions, the problem is so miniscule, trivial, and - aside from needing a try...catch block - self-contained, that there really is just no mess to be cleaned up afterwards. These are the only occasions when this best practice doesn't necessarily apply. In my experience, this has generally meant that whatever the code is doing is basically petty and forgoable, and something like retry attempts or special messages are worth neither the complexity nor holding the thread up on.

At my company, the rule is to almost always do something in a catch block, and if you don't do anything, then you must always place a comment with a very good reason why not. You must never pass or leave an empty catch block when there is anything to be done.

In such cases a common trick is (was?) to go backwards:

That said, I'm more than happy that you have better ways in Java 8, e.g. removeIf or filter on streams.

The way I solved my problem is to keep the count of the number of objects iterated over, so far. I wanted to iterate over a set using calls to an instance method. Since I knew the length of the set, and the number of items counted so far, I effectively had an hasNext method.

A simple version of my code:

Seven years after the inception of the App Store (July 10, 2008), Apple has finally introduced a new feature in Xcode 7 that allows you to deploy and run any number of apps on any of your devices, simply by logging in with your Apple ID. You will no longer need a paid Program membership to deploy apps on your own device (and you certainly no longer have to jailbreak your device if you're not comfortable doing so).

Well, not for the majority of use cases anyway. For obvious reasons, certain capabilities and entitlements that require Program membership such as Game Center and in-app purchases will not be available to apps deployed using this method. From Apple's developer documentation:

If you don’t join the Apple Developer Program, you can still build and run your app on your devices using free provisioning. However, the capabilities available to your app, described in Adding Capabilities, are restricted when you don’t belong to the Apple Developer Program.

The precise steps to getting your app onto your iOS device or Apple Watch follow immediately thus (screenshots omitted for ease of skimming):

1. In Xcode, add your Apple ID to Accounts preferences, described in Adding Your Apple ID Account in Xcode.

2. In the project navigator, select the project and your target to display the project editor.

3. Click General and choose your name from the Team pop-up menu.

4. Connect the device to your Mac and choose your device from the Scheme toolbar menu.

5. Below the Team pop-up menu, click Fix Issue.

Prior to Xcode 7, a Program membership was indeed required in order to sign the provisioning certificates required to deploy apps to devices. The only other alternative was jailbreaking. With Xcode 7, you no longer need to jailbreak your device just to run apps distributed outside the App Store, or to test apps if you cannot afford to join the Program, or to deploy and use apps that you have developed for your own personal use if you do not intend to distribute them through the App Store (in which case you probably don't need the entitlements offered by Program membership anyway).

I corrected this error as there was a syntax error or some unwanted characters in the query, but MySQL was not able to catch it. I was using and in between multiple fields during update, e.g.

np.convolve needs a flattened array as one of it's inputs, you can use numpy.ndarray.flatten() which is quite fast, find it here.

The right way is using insertAdjacentHTML. In Firefox earlier than 8, you can fall back to using Range.createContextualFragment if your str contains no script tags.

If your str contains script tags, you need to remove script elements from the fragment returned by createContextualFragment before inserting the fragment. Otherwise, the scripts will run. (insertAdjacentHTML marks scripts unexecutable.)

int System.in.read() reads the next byte of data from the input stream. But I am sure you already knew that, because it is trivial to look up. So, what you are probably asking is:

• Why is it declared to return an int when the documentation says that it reads a byte?

• and why does it appear to return garbage? (I type '9', but it returns 57.)

It returns an int because besides all the possible values of a byte, it also needs to be able to return an extra value to indicate end-of-stream. So, it has to return a type which can express more values than a byte can.

It appears to return garbage because when you view a character as an integer, what you are looking at is the ASCII^(*) value of that character. So, a '9' appears as a 57. But if you cast it to a character, you get '9', so all is well.

Obviously, characters must be mapped to numbers. ASCII(*) is a system of mapping characters to numbers. And in this system, character '9' maps to number 57, not number 9.}

(*) Not necessarily ASCII; it may be some other encoding, like UTF-16; but in the vast majority of encodings, and certainly in all popular encodings, the first 127 values are the same as ASCII. And this includes all english alphanumeric characters and popular symbols.

One note for people who might not have the set password for sysdba or sys and regularly use a third party client. Here's some info about logging into command line sqlplus without a password that helped me. I am using fedora 21 by the way.

In my case, sqlplus is located here:

This method is not depend on database type/version underneath the Hibernate. Default value is set before persisting the mapping object.

For string field in struct, you can use pointer and reassigning the string to that pointer will be straightforward and simpler.

There's a shorthand-type way to do this that I have been using recently. This might need to be configured, but it should work in most mainline PHP installations. If you're storing the link in a PHP variable, you can do it in the following manner based off the OP:

I would all but guarantee that the issue is some sort of non-printing character that's present in the value you pulled off your socket. It looks like you're using Python 2.x, in which case you can check for them with this:

print repr(temp)

You'll likely see something in there that's escaped in the form \x00. These non-printing characters don't show up when you print directly to the console, but their presence is enough to negatively impact the parsing of a string value into a float.

It turns this is partly accurate for your issue - the root cause however appears to be that you're reading more information than you expect from your socket or otherwise receiving multiple values. You could do something like

map(float, temp.strip().split('\r\n'))

In order to convert each of the values, but if your function is supposed to return a single float value this is likely to cause confusion. Anyway, the issue certainly revolves around the presence of characters you did not expect to see in the value you retrieved from your socket.

There are multiple function to do this work that wrote in bottom based on priority.

The Node.js Event Loop, Timers, and process.nextTick() doc includes the following:

We recommend developers use setImmediate() in all cases because it's easier to reason about (and it leads to code that's compatible with a wider variety of environments, like browser JS.)

Earlier in the doc it warns that process.nextTick can lead to...

some bad situations because it allows you to "starve" your I/O by making recursive process.nextTick() calls, which prevents the event loop from reaching the poll phase.

As it turns out, process.nextTick can even starve Promises:

The 500 code would normally indicate an error on the server, not anything with your code. Some thoughts

• Talk to the server developer for more info. You can't get more info directly.
• Verify your arguments into the call (values). Look for anything you might think could cause a problem for the server process. The process should not die and should return you a better code, but bugs happen there also.
• Could be intermittent, like if the server database goes down. May be worth trying at another time.

If you are certain you want to wait and never get interrupted then use sleep in POSIX or Sleep in Windows. In POSIX sleep takes time in seconds so if you want the time to be shorter there are varieties like usleep() which uses microseconds. Sleep in Windows takes milliseconds, it is rare you need finer granularity than that.

It may be that you wish to wait a period of time but want to allow interrupts, maybe in the case of an emergency. sleep can be interrupted by signals but there is a better way of doing it in this case.

Therefore I actually found in practice what you do is wait for an event or a condition variable with a timeout.

In Windows your call is WaitForSingleObject. In POSIX it is pthread_cond_timedwait.

In Windows you can also use WaitForSingleObjectEx and then you can actually "interrupt" your thread with any queued task by calling QueueUserAPC. WaitForSingleObject(Ex) will return a code determining why it exited, so you will know when it returns a "TIMEDOUT" status that it did indeed timeout. You set the Event it is waiting for when you want it to terminate.

With pthread_cond_timedwait you can signal broadcast the condition variable. (If several threads are waiting on the same one, you will need to broadcast to wake them all up). Each time it loops it should check the condition. Your thread can get the current time and see if it has passed or it can look to see if some condition has been met to determine what to do. If you have some kind of queue you can check it. (Your thread will automatically have a mutex locked that it used to wait on the condition variable, so when it checks the condition it has sole access to it).

Here is what I used if you are using many markers in a for loop (Django here). You can set an index on each marker and set that index every time you open a window. Closing the previously saved index:

Personally, I would rather not install another library just to get this functionality. My answer does not require any external libraries, and it may also work with little modification for regex flavors besides JavaScript.

Unicode's website provides a way to translate Unicode categories into a set of code points. Since it's Unicode's website, the information from it should be accurate.

But your example is looking for the scheme as well, so location.origin appears to do what you want in Chrome, but gets not mention in the Mozdev docs. You can construct it with

There are a number of methods of obtaining an execution plan, which one to use will depend on your circumstances. Usually you can use SQL Server Management Studio to get a plan, however if for some reason you can't run your query in SQL Server Management Studio then you might find it helpful to be able to obtain a plan via SQL Server Profiler or by inspecting the plan cache.

Method 1 - Using SQL Server Management Studio

SQL Server comes with a couple of neat features that make it very easy to capture an execution plan, simply make sure that the "Include Actual Execution Plan" menu item (found under the "Query" menu) is ticked and run your query as normal.

If you are trying to obtain the execution plan for statements in a stored procedure then you should execute the stored procedure, like so:

exec p_Example 42

When your query completes you should see an extra tab entitled "Execution plan" appear in the results pane. If you ran many statements then you may see many plans displayed in this tab.

From here you can inspect the execution plan in SQL Server Management Studio, or right click on the plan and select "Save Execution Plan As ..." to save the plan to a file in XML format.

Method 2 - Using SHOWPLAN options

This method is very similar to method 1 (in fact this is what SQL Server Management Studio does internally), however I have included it for completeness or if you don't have SQL Server Management Studio available.

Before you run your query, run one of the following statements. The statement must be the only statement in the batch, i.e. you cannot execute another statement at the same time:

These are connection options and so you only need to run this once per connection. From this point on all statements run will be acompanied by an additional resultset containing your execution plan in the desired format - simply run your query as you normally would to see the plan.

Once you are done you can turn this option off with the following statement:

Comparison of execution plan formats

Unless you have a strong preference my recommendation is to use the STATISTICS XML option. This option is equivalent to the "Include Actual Execution Plan" option in SQL Server Management Studio and supplies the most information in the most convenient format.

• SHOWPLAN_TEXT - Displays a basic text based estimated execution plan, without executing the query
• SHOWPLAN_ALL - Displays a text based estimated execution plan with cost estimations, without executing the query
• SHOWPLAN_XML - Displays an XML based estimated execution plan with cost estimations, without executing the query. This is equivalent to the "Display Estimated Execution Plan..." option in SQL Server Management Studio.
• STATISTICS PROFILE - Executes the query and displays a text based actual execution plan.
• STATISTICS XML - Executes the query and displays an XML based actual execution plan. This is equivalent to the "Include Actual Execution Plan" option in SQL Server Management Studio.

Method 3 - Using SQL Server Profiler

If you can't run your query directly (or your query doesn't run slowly when you execute it directly - remember we want a plan of the query performing badly), then you can capture a plan using a SQL Server Profiler trace. The idea is to run your query while a trace that is capturing one of the "Showplan" events is running.

Note that depending on load you can use this method on a production environment, however you should obviously use caution. The SQL Server profiling mechanisms are designed to minimize impact on the database but this doesn't mean that there won't be any performance impact. You may also have problems filtering and identifying the correct plan in your trace if your database is under heavy use. You should obviously check with your DBA to see if they are happy with you doing this on their precious database!

1. Open SQL Server Profiler and create a new trace connecting to the desired database against which you wish to record the trace.
2. Under the "Events Selection" tab check "Show all events", check the "Performance" -> "Showplan XML" row and run the trace.
3. While the trace is running, do whatever it is you need to do to get the slow running query to run.
4. Wait for the query to complete and stop the trace.
5. To save the trace right click on the plan xml in SQL Server Profiler and select "Extract event data..." to save the plan to file in XML format.

The plan you get is equivalent to the "Include Actual Execution Plan" option in SQL Server Management Studio.

Method 4 - Inspecting the query cache

If you can't run your query directly and you also can't capture a profiler trace then you can still obtain an estimated plan by inspecting the SQL query plan cache.

We inspect the plan cache by querying SQL Server DMVs. The following is a basic query which will list all cached query plans (as xml) along with their SQL text. On most database you will also need to add additional filtering clauses to filter the results down to just the plans you are interested in.

Because there are so many factors involved (ranging from the table and index schema down to the data stored and the table statistics) you should always try to obtain an execution plan from the database you are interested in (normally the one that is experiencing a performance problem).

You can't capture an execution plan for encrypted stored procedures.

"actual" vs "estimated" execution plans

An actual execution plan is one where SQL Server actually runs the query, whereas an estimated execution plan SQL Server works out what it would do without executing the query. Although logically equivalent, an actual execution plan is much more useful as it contains additional details and statistics about what actually happened when executing the query. This is essential when diagnosing problems where SQL Servers estimations are off (such as when statistics are out of date).

OK, lets do this properly. Select dates matching today, using indexes if available, with all the different date/time types present.

The principle here is the same in each case. We grab rows where the date column is on or after the most recent midnight (today's date with time 00:00:00), and before the next midnight (tomorrow's date with time 00:00:00, but excluding anything with that exact value).

For pure date types, we can do a simple comparison with today's date.

To keep things nice and fast, we're explicitly avoiding doing any manipulation on the dates stored in the DB (the LHS of the where clause in all the examples below). This would potentially trigger a full table scan as the date would have to be computed for every comparison. (This behaviour appears to vary by DBMS, YMMV).

As others already noted, in one case you are attempting to return cString (which is a char * value in this context - a pointer) from a function that is declared to return a char (which is an integer). In another case you do the reverse: you are assigning a char return value to a char * pointer. This is what triggers the warnings. You certainly need to declare your return values as char *, not as char.

Note BTW that these assignments are in fact constraint violations from the language point of view (i.e. they are "errors"), since it is illegal to mix pointers and integers in C like that (aside from integral constant zero). Your compiler is simply too forgiving in this regard and reports these violations as mere "warnings".

What I also wanted to note is that in several answers you might notice the relatively strange suggestion to return void from your functions, since you are modifying the string in-place. While it will certainly work (since you indeed are modifying the string in-place), there's nothing really wrong with returning the same value from the function. In fact, it is a rather standard practice in C language where applicable (take a look at the standard functions like strcpy and others), since it enables "chaining" of function calls if you choose to use it, and costs virtually nothing if you don't use "chaining".

That said, the assignments in your implementation of compareString look complete superfluous to me (even though they won't break anything). I'd either get rid of them

(this is when your char * return would come handy). Just keep in mind that such "chained" function calls are sometimes difficult to debug with a step-by-step debugger.

As an additional, unrealted note, I'd say that implementing a string comparison function in such a destructive fashion (it modifies the input strings) might not be the best idea. A non-destructive function would be of a much greater value in my opinion. Instead of performing as explicit conversion of the input strings to a lower case, it is usually a better idea to implement a custom char-by-char case-insensitive string comparison function and use it instead of calling the standard strcmp.

If you want to maintain a clearer separation of PHP and JS (it makes syntax highlighting and checking in IDEs easier) then you can create jquery plugins for your code and then pass the $_SESSION['param'] as a variable.

So in page.php:

I had the same problem. When I did create a react native project via create-react-native-app AwesomeProject it worked well in Expo app on phone. After that I wanted to use that quickstart project for developing my project and got same error as you do.

After some research I find out it's better to start new project with react-native init AwesomeProject (with all setting in react native docs) Then run this command:

react-native bundle --platform android --dev false --entry-file index.android.js --bundle-output android/app/src/main/assets/index.android.bundle --assets-dest android/app/src/main/res/

That should fix the thing with bundle (--dev false is not showing warnings)

All you need to do for app to run on your virtual / real device is:

react-native run-android

And it should be working just fine. At least it worked for me.

You should call srand() before calling rand to initialize the random number generator.

Either call it with a specific seed, and you will always get the same pseudo-random sequence

In response to Moon's Comment rand() generates a random number with an equal probability between 0 and RAND_MAX (a macro pre-defined in stdlib.h)

You can then map this value to a smaller range, e.g.

Random number generators are interesting and complex, it is widely said that the rand() generator in the C standard library is not a great quality random number generator, read (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Random_number_generation for a definition of quality).

These answers are all way too complicated!

The way he wrote the method is fine. The problem is where he invoked the method. He did not include parentheses after the method name, so the compiler thought he was trying to get a value from a variable instead of a method.

In Visual Basic and Delphi, those parentheses are optional, but in C#, they are required. So, to correct the last line of the original post:

I ran into this as well, but in the case where I wanted to avoid the extra error messages while keeping the range provided. An option is also to subset the data prior to setting the range, so that the range can be kept however you like without triggering warnings.

The table is only dropped and re-created in cases where that's the only way SQL Server's Management Studio has been programmed to know how to do it.

There are certainly cases where it will do that when it doesn't need to, but there will also be cases where edits you make in Management Studio will not drop and re-create because it doesn't have to.

The problem is that enumerating all of the cases and determining which side of the line they fall on will be quite tedious.

This is why I like to use ALTER TABLE in a query window, instead of visual designers that hide what they're doing (and quite frankly have bugs) - I know exactly what is going to happen, and I can prepare for cases where the only possibility is to drop and re-create the table (which is some number less than how often SSMS will do that to you).

Or, if for some reason you don't like any of the more sensible answers, just discard everything to the right of (and including) the space.

The SQLite wiki DatabaseIsLocked page offers a good explanation of this error message. It states, in part, that the source of contention is internal (to the process emitting the error).

What this page doesn't explain is how SQLite decides that something in your process holds a lock and what conditions could lead to a false positive.
