Programs & Examples On #Shelve

Shelve can refer to either a Python object persistence or a pending change in a Visual Studio Workspace

What is Shelving in TFS?

Shelving is a way of saving all of the changes on your box without checking in. The changes are persisted on the server. At any later time you or any of your team-mates can "unshelve" them back onto any one of your machines.

It's also great for review purposes. On my team for a check in we shelve up our changes and send out an email with the change description and name of the changeset. People on the team can then view the changeset and give feedback.

FYI: The best way to review a shelveset is with the following command

tfpt review /shelveset:shelvesetName;userName

tfpt is a part of the Team Foundation Power Tools

Why should I prefer to use member initialization lists?

As explained in the C++ Core Guidelines C.49: Prefer initialization to assignment in constructors it prevents unnecessary calls to default constructors.

Spring Rest POST Json RequestBody Content type not supported

I had the same issue when I had two setters one with Enum and one String. I had to use @JsonSetter annotation which tells Jackson what setter method to use during serialization. This solved my issue.

Query an object array using linq

Add:

using System.Linq;

to the top of your file.

And then:

Car[] carList = ...
var carMake =
    from item in carList
    where item.Model == "bmw"
    select item.Make;

or if you prefer the fluent syntax:

var carMake = carList
    .Where(item => item.Model == "bmw")
    .Select(item => item.Make);

Things to pay attention to:

  • The usage of item.Make in the select clause instead if s.Make as in your code.
  • You have a whitespace between item and .Model in your where clause

         );
      })}
     </View>
  )
}

should do the trick

Check if starting characters of a string are alphabetical in T-SQL

You don't need to use regex, LIKE is sufficient:

WHERE my_field LIKE '[a-zA-Z][a-zA-Z]%'

Assuming that by "alphabetical" you mean only latin characters, not anything classified as alphabetical in Unicode.

Note - if your collation is case sensitive, it's important to specify the range as [a-zA-Z]. [a-z] may exclude A or Z. [A-Z] may exclude a or z.

How can I use a local image as the base image with a dockerfile?

You can use it without doing anything special. If you have a local image called blah you can do FROM blah. If you do FROM blah in your Dockerfile, but don't have a local image called blah, then Docker will try to pull it from the registry.

In other words, if a Dockerfile does FROM ubuntu, but you have a local image called ubuntu different from the official one, your image will override it.

How to not wrap contents of a div?

If your div has a fixed-width it shouldn't expand, because you've fixed its width. However, modern browsers support a min-width CSS property.

You can emulate the min-width property in old IE browsers by using CSS expressions or by using auto width and having a spacer object in the container. This solution isn't elegant but may do the trick:

<div id="container" style="float: left">
  <div id="spacer" style="height: 1px; width: 300px"></div>
  <button>Button 1 text</button>
  <button>Button 2 text</button>
</div>

asp.net validation to make sure textbox has integer values

If all that you are concerned about is that the field contains an integer (i.e., not concerned with a range), then add a CompareValidator with it's Operator property set to DataTypeCheck:

<asp:CompareValidator runat="server" Operator="DataTypeCheck" Type="Integer"
 ControlToValidate="ValueTextBox" ErrorMessage="Value must be a whole number" />

If there is a specific range of values that are valid (there probably are), then you can use a RangeValidator, like so:

<asp:RangeValidator runat="server" Type="Integer"
MinimumValue="0" MaximumValue="400" ControlToValidate="ValueTextBox"
ErrorMessage="Value must be a whole number between 0 and 400" />

These will only validate if there is text in the TextBox, so you will need to keep the RequiredFieldValidator there, too.

As @Mahin said, make sure you check the Page.IsValid property on the server side, otherwise the validator only works for users with JavaScript enabled.

instantiate a class from a variable in PHP?

How to pass dynamic constructor parameters too

If you want to pass dynamic constructor parameters to the class, you can use this code:

$reflectionClass = new ReflectionClass($className);

$module = $reflectionClass->newInstanceArgs($arrayOfConstructorParameters);

More information on dynamic classes and parameters

PHP >= 5.6

As of PHP 5.6 you can simplify this even more by using Argument Unpacking:

// The "..." is part of the language and indicates an argument array to unpack.
$module = new $className(...$arrayOfConstructorParameters);

Thanks to DisgruntledGoat for pointing that out.

Find the line number where a specific word appears with "grep"

Or You can use

   grep -n . file1 |tail -LineNumberToStartWith|grep regEx

This will take care of numbering the lines in the file

   grep -n . file1

This will print the last-LineNumberToStartWith

   tail -LineNumberToStartWith

And finally it will grep your desired lines(which will include line number as in orignal file)

grep regEX

How can I read command line parameters from an R script?

If you need to specify options with flags, (like -h, --help, --number=42, etc) you can use the R package optparse (inspired from Python): http://cran.r-project.org/web/packages/optparse/vignettes/optparse.pdf.

At least this how I understand your question, because I found this post when looking for an equivalent of the bash getopt, or perl Getopt, or python argparse and optparse.

Get current rowIndex of table in jQuery

Try this,

$('td').click(function(){

var row_index = $(this).parent('table').index();

Unable to start Service Intent

First, you do not need android:process=":remote", so please remove it, since all it will do is take up extra RAM for no benefit.

Second, since the <service> element contains an action string, use it:

      Intent intent=new Intent("com.sample.service.serviceClass");

How can I count the occurrences of a string within a file?

The number of string occurrences (not lines) can be obtained using grep with -o option and wc (word count):

$ echo "echo 1234 echo" | grep -o echo
echo
echo
$ echo "echo 1234 echo" | grep -o echo | wc -l
2

So the full solution for your problem would look like this:

$ grep -o "echo" FILE | wc -l

C# using streams

I wouldn't call those different kind of streams. The Stream class have CanRead and CanWrite properties that tell you if the particular stream can be read from and written to.

The major difference between different stream classes (such as MemoryStream vs FileStream) is the backing store - where the data is read from or where it's written to. It's kind of obvious from the name. A MemoryStream stores the data in memory only, a FileStream is backed by a file on disk, a NetworkStream reads data from the network and so on.

What are the parameters for the number Pipe - Angular 2

From the DOCS

Formats a number as text. Group sizing and separator and other locale-specific configurations are based on the active locale.

SYNTAX:

number_expression | number[:digitInfo[:locale]]

where expression is a number:

digitInfo is a string which has a following format:

{minIntegerDigits}.{minFractionDigits}-{maxFractionDigits}
  • minIntegerDigits is the minimum number of integer digits to use.Defaults to 1
  • minFractionDigits is the minimum number of digits
  • after fraction. Defaults to 0. maxFractionDigits is the maximum number of digits after fraction. Defaults to 3.
  • locale is a string defining the locale to use (uses the current LOCALE_ID by default)

Could not calculate build plan: Plugin org.apache.maven.plugins:maven-resources-plugin:2.5 or one of its dependencies could not be resolved

What I found out is that while m2e is looking for v2.5 by default, my local repo has 2.6 and no 2.5.

Without going into investigation of how this came about simply adding the dependency to pom solved the problem

<dependency>

    <version>2.6</version>
</dependency>

How do I find the mime-type of a file with php?

If you are working with Images only and you need mime type (e.g. for headers), then this is the fastest and most direct answer:

$file = 'path/to/image.jpg';
$image_mime = image_type_to_mime_type(exif_imagetype($file));

It will output true image mime type even if you rename your image file

How to prevent tensorflow from allocating the totality of a GPU memory?

How can I assign the output of a function to a variable using bash?

You may use bash functions in commands/pipelines as you would otherwise use regular programs. The functions are also available to subshells and transitively, Command Substitution:

VAR=$(scan)

Is the straighforward way to achieve the result you want in most cases. I will outline special cases below.

Preserving trailing Newlines:

One of the (usually helpful) side effects of Command Substitution is that it will strip any number of trailing newlines. If one wishes to preserve trailing newlines, one can append a dummy character to output of the subshell, and subsequently strip it with parameter expansion.

function scan2 () {
    local nl=$'\x0a';  # that's just \n
    echo "output${nl}${nl}" # 2 in the string + 1 by echo
}

# append a character to the total output.
# and strip it with %% parameter expansion.
VAR=$(scan2; echo "x"); VAR="${VAR%%x}"

echo "${VAR}---"

prints (3 newlines kept):

output

---

Use an output parameter: avoiding the subshell (and preserving newlines)

If what the function tries to achieve is to "return" a string into a variable , with bash v4.3 and up, one can use what's called a nameref. Namerefs allows a function to take the name of one or more variables output parameters. You can assign things to a nameref variable, and it is as if you changed the variable it 'points to/references'.

function scan3() {
    local -n outvar=$1    # -n makes it a nameref.
    local nl=$'\x0a'
    outvar="output${nl}${nl}" # two total. quotes preserve newlines
}

VAR="some prior value which will get overwritten"

# you pass the name of the variable. VAR will be modified.
scan3 VAR

# newlines are also preserved.
echo "${VAR}==="

prints:

output

===

This form has a few advantages. Namely, it allows your function to modify the environment of the caller without using global variables everywhere.

Note: using namerefs can improve the performance of your program greatly if your functions rely heavily on bash builtins, because it avoids the creation of a subshell that is thrown away just after. This generally makes more sense for small functions reused often, e.g. functions ending in echo "$returnstring"

This is relevant. https://stackoverflow.com/a/38997681/5556676

Django MEDIA_URL and MEDIA_ROOT

Your setting is all right. Some web servers require to specify the media and static folder files specifically. For example in pythonanywhere.com you have to go to the 'Web' section and add the url od the media folders and static folder. For example:

  URL                     Directory
/static/            /home/Saidmamad/discoverthepamirs/static
/accounts/static/   /home/Saidmamad/discoverthepamirs/accounts/static
/media/            /home/Saidmamad/discoverthepamirs/discoverthepamirs/media

I know that it is late, but just to help those who visit this link because of the same problem ;)

$(document).ready shorthand

The multi-framework safe shorthand for ready is:

jQuery(function($, undefined) {
    // $ is guaranteed to be short for jQuery in this scope
    // undefined is provided because it could have been overwritten elsewhere
});

This is because jQuery isn't the only framework that uses the $ and undefined variables

LISTAGG function: "result of string concatenation is too long"

Since the aggregates string can be longer than 4000 bytes, you can't use the LISTAGG function. You could potentially create a user-defined aggregate function that returns a CLOB rather than a VARCHAR2. There is an example of a user-defined aggregate that returns a CLOB in the original askTom discussion that Tim links to from that first discussion.

delete all from table

This should be faster:

How can I create a keystore?

To answer the question in the title, you create a keystore with the Java Keytool utility that comes with any standard JDK distribution and can be located at %JAVA_HOME%\bin. On Windows this would usually be C:\Program Files\Java\jre7\bin.

So on Windows, open a command window and switch to that directory and enter a command like this

keytool -genkey -v -keystore my-release-key.keystore -alias alias_name -keyalg RSA -keysize 2048 -validity 10000

Keytool prompts you to provide passwords for the keystore, provide the Distinguished Name fields and then the password for your key. It then generates the keystore as a file called my-release-key.keystore in the directory you're in. The keystore and key are protected by the passwords you entered. The keystore contains a single key, valid for 10000 days. The alias_name is a name that you — will use later, to refer to this keystore when signing your application.

For more information about Keytool, see the documentation at: http://docs.oracle.com/javase/6/docs/technotes/tools/windows/keytool.html

and for more information on signing Android apps go here: http://developer.android.com/tools/publishing/app-signing.html

How to remove all leading zeroes in a string

Similar to another suggestion, except will not obliterate actual zero:

if (ltrim($str, '0') != '') {
    $str = ltrim($str, '0');
} else {

}

Or as was suggested (as of PHP 5.3), shorthand ternary operator can be used:

$str = ltrim($str, '0') ?: '0';

How to increment a pointer address and pointer's value?

First, the ++ operator takes precedence over the * operator, and the () operators take precedence over everything else.

Second, the ++number operator is the same as the number++ operator if you're not assigning them to anything. The difference is number++ returns number and then increments number, and ++number increments first and then returns it.

Third, by increasing the value of a pointer, you're incrementing it by the sizeof its contents, that is you're incrementing it as if you were iterating in an array.

So, to sum it all up:

ptr++; // Pointer moves to the next int position (as if it was an array)
++ptr; // Pointer moves to the next int position (as if it was an array)
++*ptr; // The value of ptr is incremented
++(*ptr); // The value of ptr is incremented
++*(ptr); // The value of ptr is incremented
*ptr++; // Pointer moves to the next int position (as if it was an array). But returns the old content
(*ptr)++; // The value of ptr is incremented
*(ptr)++; // Pointer moves to the next int position (as if it was an array). But returns the old content
*++ptr; // Pointer moves to the next int position, and then get's accessed, with your code, segfault
*(++ptr); // Pointer moves to the next int position, and then get's accessed, with your code, segfault

As there are a lot of cases in here, I might have made some mistake, please correct me if I'm wrong.

EDIT:

So I was wrong, the precedence is a little more complicated than what I wrote, view it here: http://en.cppreference.com/w/cpp/language/operator_precedence

Bootstrap 4 navbar color

Update 2019

Remember that whatever CSS overrides you define must be the same CSS specificity or greater in order to properly override Bootstrap's CSS.

Bootstrap 4.1+

The Navbar is transparent by default. If you only want to change the background color, it can be done simply by applying the color to the <navbar class="bg-custom">, but remember that won't change the other colors such as the links, hover and dropdown menu colors.

Here's CSS that will change any relevant Navbar colors in Bootstrap 4...

/* change the background color */
.navbar-custom {
    background-color: #ff5500;
}
/* change the brand and text color */
.navbar-custom .navbar-brand,
.navbar-custom .navbar-text {
    color: rgba(255,255,255,.8);
}
/* change the link color */
.navbar-custom .navbar-nav .nav-link {
    color: rgba(255,255,255,.5);
}
/* change the color of active or hovered links */
.navbar-custom .nav-item.active .nav-link,
.navbar-custom .nav-item:focus .nav-link,
.navbar-custom .nav-item:hover .nav-link {
    color: #ffffff;
}

Demo: http://www.codeply.com/go/U9I2byZ3tS

Override Navbar Light or Dark

If you're using the Bootstrap 4 Navbar navbar-light or navbar-dark classes, then use this in the overrides. For example, changing the Navbar link colors...

.navbar-light .nav-item.active .nav-link,
.navbar-light .nav-item:focus .nav-link,
.navbar-light .nav-item:hover .nav-link {
        color: #ffffff;
}

When making any Bootstrap customizations, you need to understand CSS Specificity. Overrides in your custom CSS need to use selectors that are as specific as the bootstrap.css. Read more

Transparent Navbar

Notice that the Bootstrap 4 Navbar is transparent by default. Use navbar-dark for dark/bold background colors, and use navbar-light if the navbar is a lighter color. This will effect the color of the text and color of the toggler icon as explained here.

How to get the path of current worksheet in VBA?

The quickest way

path = ThisWorkbook.Path & "\"

Reading binary file and looping over each byte

Reading binary file in Python and looping over each byte

New in Python 3.5 is the pathlib module, which has a convenience method specifically to read in a file as bytes, allowing us to iterate over the bytes. I consider this a decent (if quick and dirty) answer:

import pathlib

for byte in pathlib.Path(path).read_bytes():
    print(byte)

Interesting that this is the only answer to mention pathlib.

In Python 2, you probably would do this (as Vinay Sajip also suggests):

with open(path, 'b') as file:
    for byte in file.read():
        print(byte)

In the case that the file may be too large to iterate over in-memory, you would chunk it, idiomatically, using the iter function with the callable, sentinel signature - the Python 2 version:

with open(path, 'b') as file:
    callable = lambda: file.read(1024)
    sentinel = bytes() # or b''
    for chunk in iter(callable, sentinel):
        for byte in chunk:
            print(byte)

(Several other answers mention this, but few offer a sensible read size.)

Best practice for large files or buffered/interactive reading

Let's create a function to do this, including idiomatic uses of the standard library for Python 3.5+:

from pathlib import Path
from functools import partial
from io import DEFAULT_BUFFER_SIZE

def file_byte_iterator(path):
    """given a path, return an iterator over the file
    that lazily loads the file
    """
    path = Path(path)
    with path.open('rb') as file:
        reader = partial(file.read1, DEFAULT_BUFFER_SIZE)
        file_iterator = iter(reader, bytes())
        for chunk in file_iterator:
            yield from chunk

Note that we use file.read1. file.read blocks until it gets all the bytes requested of it or EOF. file.read1 allows us to avoid blocking, and it can return more quickly because of this. No other answers mention this as well.

Demonstration of best practice usage:

Let's make a file with a megabyte (actually mebibyte) of pseudorandom data:

import random
import pathlib
path = 'pseudorandom_bytes'
pathobj = pathlib.Path(path)

pathobj.write_bytes(
  bytes(random.randint(0, 255) for _ in range(2**20)))

Now let's iterate over it and materialize it in memory:

>>> l = list(file_byte_iterator(path))
>>> len(l)
1048576

We can inspect any part of the data, for example, the last 100 and first 100 bytes:

>>> l[-100:]
[208, 5, 156, 186, 58, 107, 24, 12, 75, 15, 1, 252, 216, 183, 235, 6, 136, 50, 222, 218, 7, 65, 234, 129, 240, 195, 165, 215, 245, 201, 222, 95, 87, 71, 232, 235, 36, 224, 190, 185, 12, 40, 131, 54, 79, 93, 210, 6, 154, 184, 82, 222, 80, 141, 117, 110, 254, 82, 29, 166, 91, 42, 232, 72, 231, 235, 33, 180, 238, 29, 61, 250, 38, 86, 120, 38, 49, 141, 17, 190, 191, 107, 95, 223, 222, 162, 116, 153, 232, 85, 100, 97, 41, 61, 219, 233, 237, 55, 246, 181]
>>> l[:100]
[28, 172, 79, 126, 36, 99, 103, 191, 146, 225, 24, 48, 113, 187, 48, 185, 31, 142, 216, 187, 27, 146, 215, 61, 111, 218, 171, 4, 160, 250, 110, 51, 128, 106, 3, 10, 116, 123, 128, 31, 73, 152, 58, 49, 184, 223, 17, 176, 166, 195, 6, 35, 206, 206, 39, 231, 89, 249, 21, 112, 168, 4, 88, 169, 215, 132, 255, 168, 129, 127, 60, 252, 244, 160, 80, 155, 246, 147, 234, 227, 157, 137, 101, 84, 115, 103, 77, 44, 84, 134, 140, 77, 224, 176, 242, 254, 171, 115, 193, 29]

Don't iterate by lines for binary files

Don't do the following - this pulls a chunk of arbitrary size until it gets to a newline character - too slow when the chunks are too small, and possibly too large as well:

    with open(path, 'rb') as file:
        for chunk in file: # text newline iteration - not for bytes
            yield from chunk

The above is only good for what are semantically human readable text files (like plain text, code, markup, markdown etc... essentially anything ascii, utf, latin, etc... encoded) that you should open without the 'b' flag.

Single-threaded apartment - cannot instantiate ActiveX control

If you used [STAThread] to the main entry of your application and still get the error you may need to make a Thread-Safe call to the control... something like below. In my case with the same problem the following solution worked!

Private void YourFunc(..)
{
    if (this.InvokeRequired)
    {
        Invoke(new MethodInvoker(delegate()
        {
           // Call your method YourFunc(..);
        }));
    }
    else
    {
        ///
    }

Other solution: use DBrefs

How to convert string into float in JavaScript?

@GusDeCool or anyone else trying to replace more than one thousands separators, one way to do it is a regex global replace: /foo/g. Just remember that . is a metacharacter, so you have to escape it or put it in brackets (\. or [.]). Here's one option:

var str = '6.000.000';
str.replace(/[.]/g,",");

Find text in string with C#

You could use Regex:

var regex = new Regex(".*my (.*) is.*");
if (regex.IsMatch("This is an example string and my data is here"))
{
    var myCapturedText = regex.Match("This is an example string and my data is here").Groups[1].Value;
    Console.WriteLine("This is my captured text: {0}", myCapturedText);
}

Html5 Full screen video

No, there is no way to do this yet. I wish they add a future like this in browsers.

EDIT:

Now there is a Full Screen API for the web You can requestFullscreen on an Video or Canvas element to ask user to give you permisions and make it full screen.

Let's consider this element:

<video controls id="myvideo">
  <source src="somevideo.webm"></source>
  <source src="somevideo.mp4"></source>
</video>

We can put that video into fullscreen mode with script like this:

var elem = document.getElementById("myvideo");
if (elem.requestFullscreen) {
  elem.requestFullscreen();
} else if (elem.mozRequestFullScreen) {
  elem.mozRequestFullScreen();
} else if (elem.webkitRequestFullscreen) {
  elem.webkitRequestFullscreen();
} else if (elem.msRequestFullscreen) {
  elem.msRequestFullscreen();
}

Bootstrap 3 Glyphicons are not working

Note: below is likely a niche scenario, but I wanted to share it in case someone else might find it useful.

In a rails project, we are reusing quite a bit through a gem that is a Rails engine using bootstrap-sass. All was well in the main project with the exception of the glyphicon font path resolution.

GET http://0.0.0.0:3000/fonts/bootstrap/glyphicons-halflings-regular.woff 404 (Not Found)

We found that $bootstrap-sass-asset-helper was false during the resolution when we expected it to be true, so the path was different.

We caused the $bootstrap-sass-asset-helper to be initialized in the engine gem by doing:

// explicit sprockets import to get glyphicon font paths correct
@import 'bootstrap-sprockets';
@import "bootstrap/variables";

e.g. this caused the path to resolve to:

/assets/bootstrap/glyphicons-halflings-regular.woff

Again, this shouldn't be necessary in any normal rails project using bootstrap-sass, we just happen to be reusing a lot of views and this worked out for us. Hopefully this can assist someone else.

Live-stream video from one android phone to another over WiFi

If you do not need the recording and playback functionality in your app, using off-the-shelf streaming app and player is a reasonable choice.

If you do need them to be in your app, however, you will have to look into MediaRecorder API (for the server/camera app) and MediaPlayer (for client/player app).

Quick sample code for the server:

// this is your network socket
ParcelFileDescriptor pfd = ParcelFileDescriptor.fromSocket(socket);
mCamera = getCameraInstance();
mMediaRecorder = new MediaRecorder();
mCamera.unlock();
mMediaRecorder.setCamera(mCamera);
mMediaRecorder.setAudioSource(MediaRecorder.AudioSource.CAMCORDER);
mMediaRecorder.setVideoSource(MediaRecorder.VideoSource.CAMERA);
// this is the unofficially supported MPEG2TS format, suitable for streaming (Android 3.0+)
mMediaRecorder.setOutputFormat(8);
mMediaRecorder.setAudioEncoder(MediaRecorder.AudioEncoder.DEFAULT);
mMediaRecorder.setVideoEncoder(MediaRecorder.VideoEncoder.DEFAULT);
mediaRecorder.setOutputFile(pfd.getFileDescriptor());
mMediaRecorder.setPreviewDisplay(mPreview.getHolder().getSurface());
mMediaRecorder.prepare();
mMediaRecorder.start();

On the player side it is a bit tricky, you could try this:

// this is your network socket, connected to the server
ParcelFileDescriptor pfd = ParcelFileDescriptor.fromSocket(socket);
mMediaPlayer = new MediaPlayer();
mMediaPlayer.setDataSource(pfd.getFileDescriptor());
mMediaPlayer.prepare();
mMediaPlayer.start();

Unfortunately mediaplayer tends to not like this, so you have a couple of options: either (a) save data from socket to file and (after you have a bit of data) play with mediaplayer from file, or (b) make a tiny http proxy that runs locally and can accept mediaplayer's GET request, reply with HTTP headers, and then copy data from the remote server to it. For (a) you would create the mediaplayer with a file path or file url, for (b) give it a http url pointing to your proxy.

WordPress asking for my FTP credentials to install plugins

On OSX, I used the following, and it worked:

sudo chown -R _www:_www {path to wordpress folder}

_www is the user that PHP runs under on the Mac.

(You may also need to chmod some folders too. I had done that first and it didn't fix it. It wasn't until I did the chown command that it worked, so I'm not sure if it was the chown command alone, or a combination of chmod and chown.)

Update Angular model after setting input value with jQuery

IF EXISTS condition not working with PLSQL

IF EXISTS() is semantically incorrect. EXISTS condition can be used only inside a SQL statement. So you might rewrite your pl/sql block as follows:

declare
  l_exst number(1);
begin
  select case
           when exists(select ce.s_regno
                         from courseoffering co
                         join co_enrolment ce
                           on ce.co_id = co.co_id
                        where ce.s_regno=403
                          and ce.coe_completionstatus = 'C'
                          and ce.c_id = 803
                          and rownum = 1
                        )
           then 1
           else 0
         end  into l_exst
  from dual;

  if l_exst = 1
  then
    DBMS_OUTPUT.put_line('YES YOU CAN');
  else
    DBMS_OUTPUT.put_line('YOU CANNOT');
  end if;
end;

Or you can simply use count function do determine the number of rows returned by the query, and rownum=1 predicate - you only need to know if a record exists:

declare
  l_exst number;
begin
   select count(*)
     into l_exst
     from courseoffering co
          join co_enrolment ce
            on ce.co_id = co.co_id
    where ce.s_regno=403
      and ce.coe_completionstatus = 'C'
      and ce.c_id = 803
      and rownum = 1;

  if l_exst = 0
  then
    DBMS_OUTPUT.put_line('YOU CANNOT');
  else
    DBMS_OUTPUT.put_line('YES YOU CAN');
  end if;
end;

Unable to generate an explicit migration in entity framework

Tip: It's always good to use the -Script switch for migration commands if you're not sure. It also really helps understand what Update-Database actually does.

I run the following to update the database, then I get a script I can apply manually (or just run it again without the -Script tag).

For Update-Database I would run the following :

Update-Database -Script -ConfigurationTypeName Configuration_ASPNETIdentity -ConnectionStringName SQL_AzureLive

Where SQL_AzureLive is the named connection string in my config.

Then I can verify the SQL looks right, apply it and be done. As many others have said if the connection string is wrong or invalid you'll get this error.

Good PHP ORM Library?

If you are looking for an ORM that implements the Data Mapper paradigm rather than Active Record specifically, then I would strongly suggest that you take a look at GacelaPHP.

Gacela features:

  • Data mapper
  • Foreign key mapping
  • Association mapping
  • Dependent mapping
  • Concrete table inheritance
  • Query object
  • Metadata mapping
  • Lazy & eager loading
  • Full Memcached support

Other ORM solutions are too bloated or have burdensome limitations when developing anything remotely complicated. Gacela resolves the limitations of the active record approach by implementing the Data Mapper Pattern while keeping bloat to a minimum by using PDO for all interactions with the database and Memcached.

Revert a jQuery draggable object back to its original container on out event of droppable

If you want to revert the element to the source position if it's not dropped inside a #droppable element, just save the original parent element of the draggable at the start of the script (instead of the position), and if you verify that it's not dropped into #droppable, then just restore the parent of #draggable to this original element.

So, replace this:

}).each(function() {
    var top = $(this).position().top;
    var left = $(this).position().left;
    $(this).data('orgTop', top);
    $(this).data('orgLeft', left);
});

with this:

}).each(function() {
    $(this).data('originalParent', $(this).parent())
});

Here, you'll have the original parent element of the draggable. Now, you have to restore it's parent in a precise moment.

drop is called every time the element is dragged out from the droppable, not at the stop. So, you're adding a lot of event callbacks. This is wrong, because you never clean the mouseup event. A good place where you can hook a callback and check if the element was dropped inside or outside the #droppable element, is revert, and you're doing it right now, so, just delete the drop callback.

When the element is dropped, and needs to know if it should be reverted or not, you know for sure that you'll not have any other interaction from the user until the new drag start. So, using the same condition you're using to know if it should revert or know, let's replace this alert with a fragment of code that: restores the parent element to the original div, and resets the originalPosition from the draggable internals. The originalPosition proeprty is setted at the time of _mouseStart, so, if you change the owner of the element, you should reset it, in order to make the animation of revert go to the proper place. So, let's set this to {top: 0, left: 0}, making the animation go to the origin point of the element:

revert: function(dropped) {
    var dropped = dropped && dropped[0].id == "droppable";
    if(!dropped) {
        $(this).data("draggable").originalPosition = {top:0, left:0}
        $(this).appendTo($(this).data('originalParent'))
    }
    return !dropped;
}

And that's it! You can check this working here: http://jsfiddle.net/eUs3e/1/

Take into consideration that, if in any jQuery's UI update, the behavior of revert or originalPosition changes, you'll need to update your code in order to make it work. Keep in mind that.

If you need a solution which doesn't make use of calls to the internals of ui.draggable, you can make your body an droppable element with greedy option defined as false. You'll have to make sure that your body elements take the full screen.

Good luck!

            switch (event.getAction()) {

                    v.invalidate();
                    break;
                }
                case MotionEvent.ACTION_UP: {
                    v.postDelayed(new Runnable() {
                        @Override
                        public void run() {
                            v.getBackground().clearColorFilter();
                            v.invalidate();
                        }
                    }, 100L);
                    break;
                }
            }

        }

You can change the value of the delay 100L to suit your needs.

Static Final Variable in Java

Declaring the field as 'final' will ensure that the field is a constant and cannot change. The difference comes in the usage of 'static' keyword.

Declaring a field as static means that it is associated with the type and not with the instances. i.e. only one copy of the field will be present for all the objects and not individual copy for each object. Due to this, the static fields can be accessed through the class name.

As you can see, your requirement that the field should be constant is achieved in both cases (declaring the field as 'final' and as 'static final').

Similar question is private final static attribute vs private final attribute

Hope it helps

How do I get the object if it exists, or None if it does not exist?

Handling exceptions at different points in your views could really be cumbersome..What about defining a custom Model Manager, in the models.py file, like

class ContentManager(model.Manager):
    def get_nicely(self, **kwargs):
        try:
            return self.get(kwargs)
        except(KeyError, Content.DoesNotExist):
            return None

and then including it in the content Model class

class Content(model.Model):
    ...
    objects = ContentManager()

In this way it can be easily dealt in the views i.e.

post = Content.objects.get_nicely(pk = 1)
if post:
    # Do something
else:
    # This post doesn't exist

How to send POST request?

Use requests library to GET, POST, PUT or DELETE by hitting a REST API endpoint. Pass the rest api endpoint url in url, payload(dict) in data and header/metadata in headers

There are few modes to open file (read, write etc..)

If you want to read from file you should type file = open("File.txt","r"), if write than file = open("File.txt","w"). You need to give the right permission regarding your usage.

more modes:

  • r. Opens a file for reading only.
  • rb. Opens a file for reading only in binary format.
  • r+ Opens a file for both reading and writing.
  • rb+ Opens a file for both reading and writing in binary format.
  • w. Opens a file for writing only.

How to decode a QR-code image in (preferably pure) Python?

You can try the following steps and code using qrtools:

  • Create a qrcode file, if not already existing

    • I used pyqrcode for doing this, which can be installed using pip install pyqrcode
    • And then use the code:

      >>> import pyqrcode
      >>> qr = pyqrcode.create("HORN O.K. PLEASE.")
      >>> qr.png("horn.png", scale=6)

  • Decode an existing qrcode file using qrtools

    • Install qrtools using sudo apt-get install python-qrtools
    • Now use the following code within your python prompt

      >>> import qrtools
      >>> qr = qrtools.QR()
      >>> qr.decode("horn.png")
      >>> print qr.data
      u'HORN O.K. PLEASE.'

Here is the complete code in a single run:

In [2]: import pyqrcode
In [3]: qr = pyqrcode.create("HORN O.K. PLEASE.")
In [4]: qr.png("horn.png", scale=6)
In [5]: import qrtools
In [6]: qr = qrtools.QR()
In [7]: qr.decode("horn.png")
Out[7]: True
In [8]: print qr.data
HORN O.K. PLEASE.

Caveats

  • You might need to install PyPNG using pip install pypng for using pyqrcode
  • In case you have PIL installed, you might get IOError: decoder zip not available. In that case, try uninstalling and reinstalling PIL using:

    pip uninstall PIL
    pip install PIL

  • If that doesn't work, try using Pillow instead

    pip uninstall PIL
    pip install pillow

How to add LocalDB to Visual Studio 2015 Community's SQL Server Object Explorer?

My App.config looks as below:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<configuration>
  <configSections>
    <!-- For more information on Entity Framework configuration, visit http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=237468 -->
    <section name="entityFramework" type="System.Data.Entity.Internal.ConfigFile.EntityFrameworkSection, EntityFramework, Version=6.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089" requirePermission="false" />
  </configSections>
  <entityFramework>
    <defaultConnectionFactory type="System.Data.Entity.Infrastructure.LocalDbConnectionFactory, EntityFramework">
      <parameters>
        <parameter value="v11.0" />
      </parameters>
    </defaultConnectionFactory>
    <providers>
      <provider invariantName="System.Data.SqlClient" type="System.Data.Entity.SqlServer.SqlProviderServices, EntityFramework.SqlServer" />
    </providers>
  </entityFramework>
</configuration>

I noticed that there is localDB in the path that you mentioned above and has the version v11.0. So I entered (LocalDB\V11.0) in Add Connection dialogue and it worked for me.

How do I round to the nearest 0.5?

This answer is taken from Rosdi Kasim's comment in the answer that John Rasch provided.

John's answer works but does have an overflow possibility.

Here is my version of Rosdi's code:

I also put it in an extension to make it easy to use. The extension is not necessary and could be used as a function without issue.

<Extension>
Public Function ToHalf(value As Decimal) As Decimal
    Dim integerPart = Decimal.Truncate(value)
    Dim fractionPart = value - Decimal.Truncate(integerPart)
    Dim roundedFractionPart = Math.Round(fractionPart * 2, MidpointRounding.AwayFromZero) / 2
    Dim newValue = integerPart + roundedFractionPart
    Return newValue
End Function

The usage would then be:

Dim newValue = CDec(1.26).ToHalf

This would return 1.5

How to remove MySQL completely with config and library files?

With the command:

sudo apt-get remove --purge mysql\*

you can delete anything related to packages named mysql. Those commands are only valid on debian / debian-based linux distributions (Ubuntu for example).

You can list all installed mysql packages with the command:

sudo dpkg -l | grep -i mysql

For more cleanup of the package cache, you can use the command:

sudo apt-get clean

Also, remember to use the command:

sudo updatedb

Otherwise the "locate" command will display old data.

To install mysql again, use the following command:

sudo apt-get install libmysqlclient-dev mysql-client

This will install the mysql client, libmysql and its headers files.

To install the mysql server, use the command:

sudo apt-get install mysql-server

Why when a constructor is annotated with @JsonCreator, its arguments must be annotated with @JsonProperty?

Parameter names are normally not accessible by the Java code at runtime (because it's drop by the compiler), so if you want that functionality you need to either use Java 8's built-in functionality or use a library such as ParaNamer in order to gain access to it.

So in order to not having to utilize annotations for the constructor arguments when using Jackson, you can make use of either of these 2 Jackson modules:

jackson-module-parameter-names

This module allows you to get annotation-free constructor arguments when using Java 8. In order to use it you first need to register the module:

ObjectMapper mapper = new ObjectMapper();
mapper.registerModule(new ParameterNamesModule());

Then compile your code using the -parameters flag:

javac -parameters ...

Link: https://github.com/FasterXML/jackson-modules-java8/tree/master/parameter-names

jackson-module-paranamer

This other one simply requires you to register the module or configure an annotation introspection (but not both as pointed out by the comments). It allows you to use annotation-free constructor arguments on versions of Java prior to 1.8.

ObjectMapper mapper = new ObjectMapper();
// either via module
mapper.registerModule(new ParanamerModule());
// or by directly assigning annotation introspector (but not both!)
mapper.setAnnotationIntrospector(new ParanamerOnJacksonAnnotationIntrospector());

Read/Write String from/to a File in Android

For those looking for a general strategy for reading and writing a string to file:

First, get a file object

You'll need the storage path. For the internal storage, use:

File path = context.getFilesDir();

For the external storage (SD card), use:

File path = context.getExternalFilesDir(null);

Then create your file object:

File file = new File(path, "my-file-name.txt");

Write a string to the file

FileOutputStream stream = new FileOutputStream(file);
try {
    stream.write("text-to-write".getBytes());
} finally {
    stream.close();
}

Or with Google Guava

String contents = Files.toString(file, StandardCharsets.UTF_8);

Read the file to a string

int length = (int) file.length();

byte[] bytes = new byte[length];

FileInputStream in = new FileInputStream(file);
try {
    in.read(bytes);
} finally {
    in.close();
}

String contents = new String(bytes);

Or if you are using Google Guava

String contents = Files.toString(file,"UTF-8");

For completeness I'll mention

String contents = new Scanner(file).useDelimiter("\\A").next();

which requires no libraries, but benchmarks 50% - 400% slower than the other options (in various tests on my Nexus 5).

Notes

For each of these strategies, you'll be asked to catch an IOException.

The default character encoding on Android is UTF-8.

If you are using external storage, you'll need to add to your manifest either:

<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE"/>

or

<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE"/>

Write permission implies read permission, so you don't need both.

SFTP in Python? (platform independent)

Here is a sample using pysftp and a private key.

import pysftp

def upload_file(file_path):

    private_key = "~/.ssh/your-key.pem" # can use password keyword in Connection instead
    srv = pysftp.Connection(host="your-host", username="user-name", private_key=private_key)
    srv.chdir('/var/web/public_files/media/uploads') # change directory on remote server
    srv.put(file_path) # To download a file, replace put with get
    srv.close()  # Close connection

pysftp is an easy to use sftp module that utilizes paramiko and pycrypto. It provides a simple interface to sftp.. Other things that you can do with pysftp which are quite useful:

data = srv.listdir() # Get the directory and file listing in a list
srv.get(file_path) # Download a file from remote server
srv.execute('pwd') # Execute a command on the server

More commands and about PySFTP here.

Where is the syntax for TypeScript comments documented?

Future

The TypeScript team, and other TypeScript involved teams, plan to create a standard formal TSDoc specification. The 1.0.0 draft hasn't been finalised yet: https://github.com/Microsoft/tsdoc#where-are-we-on-the-roadmap

enter image description here

Current

TypeScript uses JSDoc. e.g.

/** This is a description of the foo function. */
function foo() {
}

To learn jsdoc : https://jsdoc.app/

Demo

But you don't need to use the type annotation extensions in JSDoc.

You can (and should) still use other jsdoc block tags like @returns etc.

Example

Just an example. Focus on the types (not the content).

JSDoc version (notice types in docs):

/**
 * Returns the sum of a and b
 * @param {number} a
 * @param {number} b
 * @returns {number}
 */
function sum(a, b) {
    return a + b;
}

TypeScript version (notice the re-location of types):

/**
 * Takes two numbers and returns their sum
 * @param a first input to sum
 * @param b second input to sum
 * @returns sum of a and b
 */
function sum(a: number, b: number): number {
    return a + b;
}

Excel VBA Run-time error '424': Object Required when trying to copy TextBox

I think the reason that this is happening could be because TextBox1 is scoping to the VBA module and its associated sheet, while Range is scoping to the "Active Sheet".

EDIT

It looks like you may be able to use the GetObject function to pull the textbox from the workbook.

How to wait for a number of threads to complete?

instead of join(), which is an old API, you can use CountDownLatch. I have modified your code as below to fulfil your requirement.

import java.util.concurrent.*;
class DoSomethingInAThread implements Runnable{
    CountDownLatch latch;
    public DoSomethingInAThread(CountDownLatch latch){
        this.latch = latch;
    }
    public void run() {
        try{
            System.out.println("Do some thing");
            latch.countDown();
        }catch(Exception err){
            err.printStackTrace();
        }
    }
}

public class CountDownLatchDemo {
    public static void main(String[] args) {
        try{
            CountDownLatch latch = new CountDownLatch(1000);
            for (int n=0; n<1000; n++) {
                Thread t = new Thread(new DoSomethingInAThread(latch));
                t.start();
            }
            latch.await();
            System.out.println("In Main thread after completion of 1000 threads");
        }catch(Exception err){
            err.printStackTrace();
        }
    }
}

Explanation:

  1. CountDownLatch has been initialized with given count 1000 as per your requirement.

  2. Each worker thread DoSomethingInAThread will decrement the CountDownLatch, which has been passed in constructor.

  3. Main thread CountDownLatchDemo await() till the count has become zero. Once the count has become zero, you will get below line in output.

    In Main thread after completion of 1000 threads

More info from oracle documentation page

public void await()
           throws InterruptedException

Causes the current thread to wait until the latch has counted down to zero, unless the thread is interrupted.

Refer to related SE question for other options:

wait until all threads finish their work in java

ReactJS - Add custom event listener to component

You could use componentDidMount and componentWillUnmount methods:

import React, { Component } from 'react';
import ReactDOM from 'react-dom';

class MovieItem extends Component
{
    _handleNVEvent = event => {
        ...
    };

    componentDidMount() {
        ReactDOM.findDOMNode(this).addEventListener('nv-event', this._handleNVEvent);
    }

    componentWillUnmount() {
        ReactDOM.findDOMNode(this).removeEventListener('nv-event', this._handleNVEvent);
    }

    [...]

}

export default MovieItem;

Passing parameters to click() & bind() event in jquery?

From where would you get these values? If they're from the button itself, you could just do

commentbtn.click(function() {
   alert(this.id);
});

If they're a variable in the binding scope, you can access them from without

var id = 1;
commentbtn.click(function() {
   alert(id);
});

If they're a variable in the binding scope, that might change before the click is called, you'll need to create a new closure

for(var i = 0; i < 5; i++) {
   $('#button'+i).click((function(id) {
      return function() {
         alert(id);
      };
   }(i)));
}

Returning Arrays in Java

It is returning the array, but all returning something (including an Array) does is just what it sounds like: returns the value. In your case, you are getting the value of numbers(), which happens to be an array (it could be anything and you would still have this issue), and just letting it sit there.

When a function returns anything, it is essentially replacing the line in which it is called (in your case: numbers();) with the return value. So, what your main method is really executing is essentially the following:

public static void main(String[] args) {
    {1,2,3};
}

Which, of course, will appear to do nothing. If you wanted to do something with the return value, you could do something like this:

public static void main(String[] args){
    int[] result = numbers();
    for (int i=0; i<result.length; i++) {
        System.out.print(result[i]+" ");
    }
}

difference between new String[]{} and new String[] in java

You have a choice, when you create an object array (as opposed to an array of primitives).

One option is to specify a size for the array, in which case it will just contain lots of nulls.

String[] array = new String[10]; // Array of size 10, filled with nulls.

The other option is to specify what will be in the array.

String[] array = new String[] {"Larry", "Curly", "Moe"}; // Array of size 3, filled with stooges.

But you can't mix the two syntaxes. Pick one or the other.

How can I declare optional function parameters in JavaScript?

Update

With ES6, this is possible in exactly the manner you have described; a detailed description can be found in the documentation.

Old answer

Default parameters in JavaScript can be implemented in mainly two ways:

function myfunc(a, b)
{
    // use this if you specifically want to know if b was passed
    if (b === undefined) {
        // b was not passed
    }
    // use this if you know that a truthy value comparison will be enough
    if (b) {
        // b was passed and has truthy value
    } else {
        // b was not passed or has falsy value
    }
    // use this to set b to a default value (using truthy comparison)
    b = b || "default value";
}

The expression b || "default value" evaluates the value AND existence of b and returns the value of "default value" if b either doesn't exist or is falsy.

Alternative declaration:

function myfunc(a)
{
    var b;

    // use this to determine whether b was passed or not
    if (arguments.length == 1) {
        // b was not passed
    } else {
        b = arguments[1]; // take second argument
    }
}

The special "array" arguments is available inside the function; it contains all the arguments, starting from index 0 to N - 1 (where N is the number of arguments passed).

This is typically used to support an unknown number of optional parameters (of the same type); however, stating the expected arguments is preferred!

Further considerations

Although undefined is not writable since ES5, some browsers are known to not enforce this. There are two alternatives you could use if you're worried about this:

b === void 0;
typeof b === 'undefined'; // also works for undeclared variables

Inline <style> tags vs. inline css properties

You can set CSS using three different ways as mentioned below :-

1.External style sheet
2.Internal style sheet
3.Inline style

Preferred / ideal way of setting the css style is using as external style sheets when the style is applied to many pages. With an external style sheet, you can change the look of an entire Web site by changing one file.

sample usage can be :-

<head>
    <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="your_css_file_name.css">
</head>

If you want to apply a unique style to a single document then you can use Internal style sheet.

Don't use inline style sheet,as it mixes content with presentation and looses many advantages.

Update: In response to Brian's follow-up question in the comments:

Could you further clarify what I would do if I had nested for loops, and wanted to skip the iteration of one of the extended ones?

for (int[] numbers in numberarrays) {
  for (int number in numbers) { // What to do if I want to
                                // jump the (numbers/numberarrays)?
  }
}

A continue always applies to the nearest enclosing scope, so you couldn't use it to break out of the outermost loop. If a condition like that arises, you'd need to do something more complicated depending on exactly what you want, like break from the inner loop, then continue on the outer loop. See here for the documentation on the break keyword. The break C# keyword is similar to the Perl last keyword.

Also, consider taking Dustin's suggestion to just filter out values you don't want to process beforehand:

foreach (var basket in baskets.Where(b => b.IsOpen())) {
  foreach (var fruit in basket.Where(f => f.IsTasty())) {
    cuteAnimal.Eat(fruit); // Om nom nom. You don't need to break/continue
                           // since all the fruits that reach this point are
                           // in available baskets and tasty.
  }
}

How to declare a constant in Java

Anything that is static is in the class level. You don't have to create instance to access static fields/method. Static variable will be created once when class is loaded.

Instance variables are the variable associated with the object which means that instance variables are created for each object you create. All objects will have separate copy of instance variable for themselves.

In your case, when you declared it as static final, that is only one copy of variable. If you change it from multiple instance, the same variable would be updated (however, you have final variable so it cannot be updated).

In second case, the final int a is also constant , however it is created every time you create an instance of the class where that variable is declared.

What does "#pragma comment" mean?

#pragma comment is a compiler directive which indicates Visual C++ to leave a comment in the generated object file. The comment can then be read by the linker when it processes object files.

#pragma comment(lib, libname) tells the linker to add the 'libname' library to the list of library dependencies, as if you had added it in the project properties at Linker->Input->Additional dependencies

See #pragma comment on MSDN

JavaScript/jQuery: replace part of string?

You need to set the text after the replace call:

_x000D_
_x000D_
$('.element span').each(function() {_x000D_
  console.log($(this).text());_x000D_
  var text = $(this).text().replace('N/A, ', '');_x000D_
  $(this).text(text);_x000D_
});
_x000D_
<script src="https://cdnjs.cloudflare.com/ajax/libs/jquery/3.3.1/jquery.min.js"></script>_x000D_

  <span>N/A, Category</span>_x000D_

_x000D_
_x000D_

Here's another cool way you can do it (hat tip @Felix King):

$(".element span").text(function(index, text) {
    return text.replace("N/A, ", "");
});

How to output a comma delimited list in jinja python template?

And using the joiner from http://jinja.pocoo.org/docs/dev/templates/#joiner

{% set comma = joiner(",") %}
{% for user in userlist %}
    {{ comma() }}<a href="/profile/{{ user }}/">{{ user }}</a>
{% endfor %}

It's made for this exact purpose. Normally a join or a check of forloop.last would suffice for a single list, but for multiple groups of things it's useful.

A more complex example on why you would use it.

{% set pipe = joiner("|") %}
{% if categories %} {{ pipe() }}
    Categories: {{ categories|join(", ") }}
{% endif %}
{% if author %} {{ pipe() }}
    Author: {{ author() }}
{% endif %}
{% if can_edit %} {{ pipe() }}

Android Camera Preview Stretched

NOTE: MY SOLUTION IS A CONTINUATION OF HESAM'S SOLUTION: https://stackoverflow.com/a/22758359/1718734

What I address: Hesam's said there is a little white space that may appear on some phones, like this:

NOTE: Although the aspect ratio is correct, the camera does not fill in the whole screen.

Hesam suggested a second solution, but that squishes the preview. And on some devices, it heavily distorts.

So how do we fix this problem. It is simple...by multiplying the aspect ratios till it fills in the screen. I have noticed, several popular apps such as Snapchat, WhatsApp, etc works the same way.

All you have to do is add this to the onMeasure method:

float camHeight = (int) (width * ratio);
    float newCamHeight;
    float newHeightRatio;

    if (camHeight < height) {
        newHeightRatio = (float) height / (float) mPreviewSize.height;
        newCamHeight = (newHeightRatio * camHeight);
        Log.e(TAG, camHeight + " " + height + " " + mPreviewSize.height + " " + newHeightRatio + " " + newCamHeight);
        setMeasuredDimension((int) (width * newHeightRatio), (int) newCamHeight);
        Log.e(TAG, mPreviewSize.width + " | " + mPreviewSize.height + " | ratio - " + ratio + " | H_ratio - " + newHeightRatio + " | A_width - " + (width * newHeightRatio) + " | A_height - " + newCamHeight);
    } else {
        newCamHeight = camHeight;
        setMeasuredDimension(width, (int) newCamHeight);
        Log.e(TAG, mPreviewSize.width + " | " + mPreviewSize.height + " | ratio - " + ratio + " | A_width - " + (width) + " | A_height - " + newCamHeight);
    }

This will calculate the screen height and gets the ratio of the screen height and the mPreviewSize height. Then it multiplies the camera's width and height by the new height ratio and the set the measured dimension accordingly.

enter image description here

And the next thing you know, you end up with this :D

enter image description here

This also works well with he front camera. I believe this is the best way to go about this. Now the only thing left for my app is to save the preview itself upon clicking on "Capture." But ya, this is it.

C# equivalent of C++ map<string,double>

Roughly:-

var accounts = new Dictionary<string, double>();

// Initialise to zero...

accounts["Fred"] = 0;
accounts["George"] = 0;
accounts["Fred"] = 0;

// Add cash.
accounts["Fred"] += 4.56;
accounts["George"] += 1.00;
accounts["Fred"] += 1.00;

Console.WriteLine("Fred owes me ${0}", accounts["Fred"]);

How can I delete all of my Git stashes at once?

I had another requirement like only few stash have to be removed, below code would be helpful in that case.

#!/bin/sh
for i in `seq 5 8`
do
   git stash drop stash@{$i}
done

/* will delete from 5 to 8 index*/

Select rows having 2 columns equal value

For question 1:

SELECT DISTINCT a.*
  FROM [Table] a
  INNER JOIN
  [Table] b
  ON
  a.C1 <> b.C1 AND a.C2 = b.C2 AND a.C3 = b.C3 AND a.C4 = b.C4

Using an inner join is much more efficient than a subquery because it requires fewer operations, and maintains the use of indexes when comparing the values, allowing the SQL server to better optimize the query before its run. Using appropriate indexes with this query can bring your query down to only n * log(n) rows to compare.

Using a subquery with your where clause or only doing a standard join where C1 does not equal C2 results in a table that has roughly 2 to the power of n rows to compare, where n is the number of rows in the table.

So by using proper indexing with an Inner Join, which only returns records which met the join criteria, we're able to drastically improve the performance. Also note that we return DISTINCT a.*, because this will only return the columns for table a where the join criteria was met. Returning * would return the columns for both a and b where the criteria was met, and not including DISTINCT would result in a duplicate of each row for each time that row row matched another row more than once.

A similar approach could also be performed using CROSS APPLY, which still uses a subquery, but makes use of indexes more efficiently.

An implementation with the keyword USING instead of ON could also work, but the syntax is more complicated to make work because your want to match on rows where C1 does not match, so you would need an additional where clause to filter out matching each row with itself. Also, USING is not compatible/allowed in conjunction with table values in all implementations of SQL, so it's best to stick with ON.

Similarly, for question 2:

SELECT DISTINCT a.*
  FROM [Table] a
  INNER JOIN
  [Table] b
  ON
  a.C1 <> b.C1 AND a.C4 = b.C4

This is essentially the same query as for 1, but because it only wants to know which rows match for C4, we only compare on the rows for C4.

How to read input with multiple lines in Java

I finally got it, submited it 13 times rejected for whatever reasons, 14th "the judge" accepted my answer, here it is :

import java.io.BufferedInputStream;
import java.util.Scanner;

public class HashmatWarrior {

    public static void main(String args[]) {
        Scanner stdin = new Scanner(new BufferedInputStream(System.in));
        while (stdin.hasNext()) {
            System.out.println(Math.abs(stdin.nextLong() - stdin.nextLong()));
        }
    }
}

Incrementing a date in JavaScript

This a simpler method , and it will return the date in simple yyyy-mm-dd format , Here it is

function incDay(date, n) {
    var fudate = new Date(new Date(date).setDate(new Date(date).getDate() + n));
    fudate = fudate.getFullYear() + '-' + (fudate.getMonth() + 1) + '-' + fudate.toDateString().substring(8, 10);
    return fudate;
}

example :

var tomorrow = incDay(new Date(), 1); // the next day of today , aka tomorrow :) .
var spicaldate = incDay("2020-11-12", 1); // return "2020-11-13" .
var somedate = incDay("2020-10-28", 5); // return "2020-11-02" .

Note

incDay(new Date("2020-11-12"), 1);
incDay("2020-11-12", 1);

will return the same result .

Subtract one day from datetime

I am not certain about what precisely you are trying to do, but I think this SQL function will help you:

SELECT DATEADD(day,-1,'2013-04-01 16:25:00.250')

The above will give you 2013-03-31 16:25:00.250.

It takes you back exactly one day and works on any standard date-time or date format.

Try running this command and see if it gives you what you are looking for:

SELECT DATEADD(day,-1,@CreatedDate)

How to get the indices list of all NaN value in numpy array?

C++ Array of pointers: delete or delete []?

To simplify the answare let's look on the following code:

#include "stdafx.h"
#include <iostream>
using namespace std;

class A
{
private:
    int m_id;
    static int count;
public:
    A() {count++; m_id = count;}
    A(int id) { m_id = id; }
    ~A() {cout<< "Destructor A "   <<m_id<<endl; }
};

int A::count = 0;

void f1()
{
    A* arr = new A[10];
    //delete operate only one constructor, and crash!
    delete arr;
    //delete[] arr;
}

int main()
{
    f1();
    system("PAUSE");
    return 0;
}

The output is: Destructor A 1 and then it's crashing (Expression: _BLOCK_TYPE_IS_VALID(phead- nBlockUse)).

We need to use: delete[] arr; becuse it's delete the whole array and not just one cell!

try to use delete[] arr; the output is: Destructor A 10 Destructor A 9 Destructor A 8 Destructor A 7 Destructor A 6 Destructor A 5 Destructor A 4 Destructor A 3 Destructor A 2 Destructor A 1

The same principle is for an array of pointers:

void f2()
{
    A** arr = new A*[10];
    for(int i = 0; i < 10; i++)
    {
        arr[i] = new A(i);
    }
    for(int i = 0; i < 10; i++)
    {
        delete arr[i];//delete the A object allocations.
    }

    delete[] arr;//delete the array of pointers
}

if we'll use delete arr instead of delete[] arr. it will not delete the whole pointers in the array => memory leak of pointer objects!

what is the difference between $_SERVER['REQUEST_URI'] and $_GET['q']?

In the context of Drupal, the difference will depend whether clean URLs are on or not.

With them off, $_SERVER['REQUEST_URI'] will have the full path of the page as called w/ /index.php, while $_GET["q"] will just have what is assigned to q.

With them on, they will be nearly identical w/o other arguments, but $_GET["q"] will be missing the leading /. Take a look towards the end of the default .htaccess to see what is going on. They will also differ if additional arguments are passed into the page, eg when a pager is active.

How to check version of python modules?

module.__version__ is a good first thing to try, but it doesn't always work.

If you don't want to shell out, and you're using pip 8 or 9, you can still use pip.get_installed_distributions() to get versions from within Python:

update: the solution here works in pip 8 and 9, but in pip 10 the function has been moved from pip.get_installed_distributions to pip._internal.utils.misc.get_installed_distributions to explicitly indicate that it's not for external use. It's not a good idea to rely on it if you're using pip 10+.

import pip

pip.get_installed_distributions()  # -> [distribute 0.6.16 (...), ...]

[
    pkg.key + ': ' + pkg.version
    for pkg in pip.get_installed_distributions()
    if pkg.key in ['setuptools', 'statlib', 'construct']
] # -> nicely filtered list of ['setuptools: 3.3', ...]

Reading a file character by character in C

Expanding upon the above code from @dreamlax

char *readFile(char *fileName) {
    FILE *file = fopen(fileName, "r");
    char *code;
    size_t n = 0;
    int c;

    if (file == NULL) return NULL; //could not open file
    fseek(file, 0, SEEK_END);
    long f_size = ftell(file);
    fseek(file, 0, SEEK_SET);
    code = malloc(f_size);

    while ((c = fgetc(file)) != EOF) {
        code[n++] = (char)c;
    }

    code[n] = '\0';

    return code;
}

This gives you the length of the file, then proceeds to read it character by character.

Rails and PostgreSQL: Role postgres does not exist

I ended up here after attempting to follow Ryan Bate's tutorial on deploying to AWS EC2 with rubber. Here is what happened for me: We created a new app using "

rails new blog -d postgresql

Obviosuly this creates a new app with pg as the database, but the database was not made yet. With sqlite, you just run rake db:migrate, however with pg you need to create the pg database first. Ryan did not do this step. The command is rake db:create:all, then we can run rake db:migrate

The second part is changing the database.yml file. The default for the username when the file is generated is 'appname'. However, chances are your role for postgresql admin is something different (at least it was for me). I changed it to my name (see above advice about creating a role name) and I was good to go.

Hope this helps.

How to round an image with Glide library?

According to this answer, the easiest way in both languages is:

Kotlin:

Java:

Glide.with(context).load(uri).apply(new RequestOptions().circleCrop()).into(imageView)

This works on Glide 4.X.X

Converting a String array into an int Array in java

To get rid of additional whitespace, you could change the code like this:

intarray[i]=Integer.parseInt(str.trim()); // No more Exception in this line

It says that TypeError: document.getElementById(...) is null

All these results in null:

document.getElementById('volume');
document.getElementById('bytesLoaded');
document.getElementById('startBytes');
document.getElementById('bytesTotal');

You need to do a null check in updateHTML like this:

function updateHTML(elmId, value) {
  var elem = document.getElementById(elmId);
  if(typeof elem !== 'undefined' && elem !== null) {
    elem.innerHTML = value;
  }
}

Making TextView scrollable on Android

For a vertically or horizontally scrollable TextView some of the other answers help, but I needed to be able to scroll both ways.

What finally worked is a ScrollView with a HorizontalScrollView inside of it, and a TextView inside the HSV. It's very smooth and can easily go side to side or top to bottom in one swipe. It also only allows scrolling in one direction at a time so there's none of the jumping side to side while scrolling up or down.

An EditText with editing and cursor disabled works, but it feels terrible. Each attempt to scroll moves the cursor and it requires many swipes to go top to bottom or side to side in even a ~100-line file.

Using setHorizontallyScrolling(true) can work, but there's no similar method to allow vertical scrolling, and it doesn't work inside of a ScrollView as far as I can tell (just learning though, could be wrong).

How To Set Up GUI On Amazon EC2 Ubuntu server

So I follow first answer, but my vnc viewer gives me grey screen when I connect to it. And I found this Ask Ubuntu link to solve that.

The only difference with previous answer is you need to install these extra packages:

apt-get install gnome-panel gnome-settings-daemon metacity nautilus gnome-terminal

And use this ~/.vnc/xstartup file:

#!/bin/sh

export XKL_XMODMAP_DISABLE=1
unset SESSION_MANAGER
unset DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS

[ -x /etc/vnc/xstartup ] && exec /etc/vnc/xstartup
[ -r $HOME/.Xresources ] && xrdb $HOME/.Xresources
xsetroot -solid grey
vncconfig -iconic &

gnome-panel &
gnome-settings-daemon &
metacity &
nautilus &
gnome-terminal &

Everything else is the same.

Tested on EC2 Ubuntu 14.04 LTS.

Format date and time in a Windows batch script

This batch script will do exactly what the O.P. wants (tested on Windows XP SP3).

I also used that clever registry trick described by "jph" previously which IMHO is the simplest way of getting 100% consistent formatting of the date to "yyyy_MM_dd" on any Windows system new or old. The change to one Registry value for doing this is instantaneous temporary and trivial; it only lasts a few milliseconds before it is immediately reverted back.

Double-click this batch file for an instant demo, Command Prompt window will pop up and display your timestamp . . . . .

How to access accelerometer/gyroscope data from Javascript?

There are currently three distinct events which may or may not be triggered when the client devices moves. Two of them are focused around orientation and the last on motion:

  • ondeviceorientation is known to work on the desktop version of Chrome, and most Apple laptops seems to have the hardware required for this to work. It also works on Mobile Safari on the iPhone 4 with iOS 4.2. In the event handler function, you can access alpha, beta, gamma values on the event data supplied as the only argument to the function.

  • onmozorientation is supported on Firefox 3.6 and newer. Again, this is known to work on most Apple laptops, but might work on Windows or Linux machines with accelerometer as well. In the event handler function, look for x, y, z fields on the event data supplied as first argument.

  • ondevicemotion is known to work on iPhone 3GS + 4 and iPad (both with iOS 4.2), and provides data related to the current acceleration of the client device. The event data passed to the handler function has acceleration and accelerationIncludingGravity, which both have three fields for each axis: x, y, z

The "earthquake detecting" sample website uses a series of if statements to figure out which event to attach to (in a somewhat prioritized order) and passes the data received to a common tilt function:

if (window.DeviceOrientationEvent) {
    window.addEventListener("deviceorientation", function () {
        tilt([event.beta, event.gamma]);
    }, true);
} else if (window.DeviceMotionEvent) {
    window.addEventListener('devicemotion', function () {
        tilt([event.acceleration.x * 2, event.acceleration.y * 2]);
    }, true);
} else {
    window.addEventListener("MozOrientation", function () {
        tilt([orientation.x * 50, orientation.y * 50]);
    }, true);
}

The constant factors 2 and 50 are used to "align" the readings from the two latter events with those from the first, but these are by no means precise representations. For this simple "toy" project it works just fine, but if you need to use the data for something slightly more serious, you will have to get familiar with the units of the values provided in the different events and treat them with respect :)

Connecting to remote MySQL server using PHP

  • firewall of the server must be set-up to enable incomming connections on port 3306
  • you must have a user in MySQL who is allowed to connect from % (any host) (see manual for details)

The current problem is the first one, but right after you resolve it you will likely get the second one.

not() is a function in xpath (as opposed to an operator), so

//a[not(contains(@id, 'xx'))]

How do I include a pipe | in my linux find -exec command?

I found that running a string shell command (sh -c) works best, for example:

How to get the current working directory in Java?

Mention that it is checked only in Windows but i think it works perfect on other Operating Systems [Linux,MacOs,Solaris] :).

I had 2 .jar files in the same directory . I wanted from the one .jar file to start the other .jar file which is in the same directory.

The problem is that when you start it from the cmd the current directory is system32.

Create a string of variable length, filled with a repeated character

Version that works in all browsers

This function does what you want, and performs a lot faster than the option suggested in the accepted answer :

var repeat = function(str, count) {
    var array = [];
    for(var i = 0; i <= count;)
        array[i++] = str;
    return array.join('');
}

You use it like this :

var repeatedCharacter = repeat("a", 10);

To compare the performance of this function with that of the option proposed in the accepted answer, see this Fiddle and this Fiddle for benchmarks.

Version for moderns browsers only

In modern browsers, you can now also do this :

var repeatedCharacter = "a".repeat(10) };

This option is even faster. However, unfortunately it doesn't work in any version of Internet explorer.

The numbers in the table specify the first browser version that fully supports the method :

Close all infowindows in Google Maps API v3

I have a sample of my code that maybe can help. I had set only one infowindow object at global scope. Then use setContent() to set the content before show it.

  let map;
  let infowindow;
  let dataArr = [
    {
      pos:{lat: -34.397, lng: 150.644},
      content: 'First marker'
    },
    {
      pos:{lat: -34.340, lng: 150.415},
      content: 'Second marker'
    }
  ];

  function initMap() {
    map = new google.maps.Map(document.getElementById('map'), {
      center: {lat: -34.397, lng: 150.644},
      zoom: 8
    });
    // Set infowindow object to global varible
    infowindow = new google.maps.InfoWindow();
    loadMarker();
  }

  function loadMarker(){
    dataArr.forEach((obj, i)=>{
      let marker = new google.maps.Marker({
        position: obj.pos,

        infowindow.setContent(`<div> ${obj.content} </div>`)
        infowindow.open(map, marker);

Access properties file programmatically with Spring?

I have done this and it has worked.

Properties props = PropertiesLoaderUtils.loadAllProperties("my.properties");
PropertyPlaceholderConfigurer props2 = new PropertyPlaceholderConfigurer();
props2.setProperties(props);

That should work.

How to check encoding of a CSV file

Use chardet https://github.com/chardet/chardet (documentation is short and easy to read).

Install python, then pip install chardet, at last use the command line command.

I tested under GB2312 and it's pretty accurate. (Make sure you have at least a few characters, sample with only 1 character may fail easily).

file is not reliable as you can see.

Sort an ArrayList based on an object field

Modify the DataNode class so that it implements Comparable interface.

public int compareTo(DataNode o)
{
     return(degree - o.degree);
}

then just use

Collections.sort(nodeList);

How to increase application heap size in Eclipse?

Disable Auto Zoom in Input "Text" tag - Safari on iPhone

Amazing, there are dozens of answers here with javascript and viewports, and only one other mentions text-size-adjust which is what I believe is the best solution.

You can just set this to none.

Add the following CSS:

* {
 -webkit-text-size-adjust: none;
  text-size-adjust: none;
}

Override browser form-filling and input highlighting with HTML/CSS

<form autocomplete="off">

Pretty much all modern browsers will respect that.

How to switch from POST to GET in PHP CURL

Solved: The problem lies here:

I set POST via both _CUSTOMREQUEST and _POST and the _CUSTOMREQUEST persisted as POST while _POST switched to _HTTPGET. The Server assumed the header from _CUSTOMREQUEST to be the right one and came back with a 411.

curl_setopt($curl_handle, CURLOPT_CUSTOMREQUEST, 'POST');

Java String remove all non numeric characters

Simple way without using Regex:

Adding an extra character check for dot '.' will solve the requirement:

public static String getOnlyNumerics(String str) {
    if (str == null) {
        return null;
    }
    StringBuffer strBuff = new StringBuffer();
    char c;
    for (int i = 0; i < str.length() ; i++) {
        c = str.charAt(i);
        if (Character.isDigit(c) || c == '.') {
            strBuff.append(c);
        }
    }
    return strBuff.toString();
}

How to change node.js's console font color?

This is a list of available colours (both background and foreground) in the console with some available actions (like reset, reverse, etc).

const colours = {
    reset: "\x1b[0m",
    bright: "\x1b[1m",
    dim: "\x1b[2m",
    underscore: "\x1b[4m",
    blink: "\x1b[5m",
    reverse: "\x1b[7m",
    hidden: "\x1b[8m",

    fg: {
        black: "\x1b[30m",
        red: "\x1b[31m",
        green: "\x1b[32m",
        yellow: "\x1b[33m",
        blue: "\x1b[34m",
        magenta: "\x1b[35m",
        cyan: "\x1b[36m",
        white: "\x1b[37m",
        crimson: "\x1b[38m" // Scarlet
    },
    bg: {
        black: "\x1b[40m",
        red: "\x1b[41m",
        green: "\x1b[42m",
        yellow: "\x1b[43m",
        blue: "\x1b[44m",
        magenta: "\x1b[45m",
        cyan: "\x1b[46m",
        white: "\x1b[47m",
        crimson: "\x1b[48m"
    }
};

Here's an example of how to use it:

console.log(colours.bg.blue, colours.fg.white, "I am a white message with a blue background", colours.reset) ;
// Make sure that you don't forget "colours.reset" at the so that you can reset the console back to it's original colours.

Or you can install some utility modules:

npm install console-info console-warn console-error --save-dev

These modules will show something like the following to the console when you use them:

Example of the utility modules that I've mentioned.

Limit the height of a responsive image with css

I set the below 3 styles to my img tag

max-height: 500px;

Does return stop a loop?

In most cases (including this one), return will exit immediately. However, if the return is in a try block with an accompanying finally block, the finally always executes and can "override" the return in the try.

function foo() {
    try {
        for (var i = 0; i < 10; i++) {
            if (i % 3 == 0) {
                return i; // This executes once
            }
        }
    } finally {
        return 42; // But this still executes
    }
}

console.log(foo()); // Prints 42

What's wrong with using == to compare floats in Java?

Are you dealing with outsourced code that would use floats for things named sectionID and currentSectionID? Just curious.

@Bill K: "The binary representation of a float is kind of annoying." How so? How would you do it better? There are certain numbers that cannot be represented in any base properly, because they never end. Pi is a good example. You can only approximate it. If you have a better solution, contact Intel.

C++ static virtual members?

No, this is not possible, because static member functions lack a this pointer. And static members (both functions and variables) are not really class members per-se. They just happen to be invoked by ClassName::member, and adhere to the class access specifiers. Their storage is defined somewhere outside the class; storage is not created each time you instantiated an object of the class. Pointers to class members are special in semantics and syntax. A pointer to a static member is a normal pointer in all regards.

virtual functions in a class needs the this pointer, and is very coupled to the class, hence they can't be static.
