Using JavaScript to display a Blob

In the fiddle your blob isn't a blob, it's a string representation of hexadecimal data. Try this on a blob and your done

var image = document.createElement('img');
let reader=new FileReader()
reader.addEventListener('loadend',()=>{
  let contents=reader.result
  image.src = contents
  document.body.appendChild(image);
})
if(blob instanceof Blob) reader.readAsDataURL(blob)

readAsDataURL give you a base64 encoded image ready for you image element () source (src)

jquery ui Dialog: cannot call methods on dialog prior to initialization

In my case the problem was that I had called $("#divDialog").removeData(); as part of resetting my forms data within the dialog.

This resulted in me wiping out a data structure named uiDialog which meant that the dialog had to reinitialize.

I replaced .removeData() with more specific deletes and everything started working again.

How to use a findBy method with comparative criteria

The Symfony documentation now explicitly shows how to do this:

$em = $this->getDoctrine()->getManager();
$query = $em->createQuery(
    'SELECT p
    FROM AppBundle:Product p
    WHERE p.price > :price
    ORDER BY p.price ASC'
)->setParameter('price', '19.99');
$products = $query->getResult();

How to dismiss ViewController in Swift?

From you image it seems like you presented the ViewController using push

The dismissViewControllerAnimated is used to close ViewControllers that presented using modal

Swift 2

navigationController.popViewControllerAnimated(true)

Swift 4

navigationController?.popViewController(animated: true)

dismiss(animated: true, completion: nil)

the getSource() and getActionCommand()

I use getActionCommand() to hear buttons. I apply the setActionCommand() to each button so that I can hear whenever an event is execute with event.getActionCommand("The setActionCommand() value of the button").

I use getSource() for JRadioButtons for example. I write methods that returns each JRadioButton so in my Listener Class I can specify an action each time a new JRadioButton is pressed. So for example:

public class SeleccionListener implements ActionListener, FocusListener {}

So with this I can hear button events and radioButtons events. The following are examples of how I listen each one:

public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent event) {
    if (event.getActionCommand().equals(GUISeleccion.BOTON_ACEPTAR)) {
        System.out.println("Aceptar pressed");
    }

In this case GUISeleccion.BOTON_ACEPTAR is a "public static final String" which is used in JButtonAceptar.setActionCommand(BOTON_ACEPTAR).

public void focusGained(FocusEvent focusEvent) {
    if (focusEvent.getSource().equals(guiSeleccion.getJrbDat())){
        System.out.println("Data radio button");
    }

In this one, I get the source of any JRadioButton that is focused when the user hits it. guiSeleccion.getJrbDat() returns the reference to the JRadioButton that is in the class GUISeleccion (this is a Frame)

Why does IE9 switch to compatibility mode on my website?

Looks fine to me:

You're sure you didn't on the settings globally or something? This is a clean installation of the beta on Windows 7. The developer tools report that the page is defaulting to IE9 Standard Mode.

Does it matter what extension is used for SQLite database files?

If you have settled on a particular set of tools to access / modify your databases, I would go with whatever extension they expect you to use. This will avoid needless friction when doing development tasks.

For instance, SQLiteStudio v3.1.1 defaults to looking for files with the following extensions:

enter image description here

(db|sdb|sqlite|db3|s3db|sqlite3|sl3|db2|s2db|sqlite2|sl2)

If necessary for deployment your installation mechanism could rename the file if obscuring the file type seems useful to you (as some other answers have suggested). Filename requirements for development and deployment can be different.

Invariant Violation: Objects are not valid as a React child

  1. What's happening is the onClick function you are trying to implement gets executed immediately.

  2. As our code is not HTML it is javascript so it is interpreted as a function execution.

  3. onClick function takes a function as argument not an function execution.

const items = ['EN', 'IT', 'FR', 'GR', 'RU'].map((item) => { return (<li onClick={(e) => onItemClick(e, item)} key={item}>{item}</li>); });

this will define an onClick function on List Item that will get executed after clicking on it not as soon as our component renders.

Authenticate Jenkins CI for Github private repository

If you need Jenkins to access more then 1 project you will need to:
1. add public key to one github user account
2. add this user as Owner (to access all projects) or as a Collaborator in every project.

Many public keys for one system user will not work because GitHub will find first matched deploy key and will send back error like "ERROR: Permission to user/repo2 denied to user/repo1"

Failed to load ApplicationContext (with annotation)

Your test requires a ServletContext: add @WebIntegrationTest

@RunWith(SpringJUnit4ClassRunner.class)
@ContextConfiguration(classes = AppConfig.class, loader = AnnotationConfigContextLoader.class)
@WebIntegrationTest
public class UserServiceImplIT

...or look here for other options: https://docs.spring.io/spring-boot/docs/current/reference/html/boot-features-testing.html

UPDATE In Spring Boot 1.4.x and above @WebIntegrationTest is no longer preferred. @SpringBootTest or @WebMvcTest

Fitting polynomial model to data in R

The easiest way to find the best fit in R is to code the model as:

lm.1 <- lm(y ~ x + I(x^2) + I(x^3) + I(x^4) + ...)

After using step down AIC regression

lm.s <- step(lm.1)

When should I use Kruskal as opposed to Prim (and vice versa)?

The best time for Kruskal's is O(E logV). For Prim's using fib heaps we can get O(E+V lgV). Therefore on a dense graph, Prim's is much better.

Laravel: Validation unique on update

Just a side note, most answers to this question talk about email_address while in Laravel's inbuilt auth system, the email field name is just email. Here is an example how you can validate a unique field, i.e. an email on the update:

In a Form Request, you do like this:

public function rules()
{
  return [
      'email' => 'required|email|unique:users,email,'.$this->user->id,
  ];
}

Or if you are validating your data in a controller directly:

public function update(Request $request, User $user)
{
  $request->validate([
      'email' => 'required|email|unique:users,email,'.$user->id,
  ]);
}

Update: If you are updating the signed in user and aren't injecting the User model into your route, you may encounter undefined property when accessing id on $this->user. In that case, use:

public function rules()
    {
      return [
          'email' => 'required|email|unique:users,email,'.$this->user()->id,
      ];
    }

A more elegant way since Laravel 5.7 is:

public function rules()
{
    return [
        'email' => ['required', 'email', \Illuminate\Validation\Rule::unique('users')->ignore($this->user()->id)]
    ];
}

P.S: I have added some other rules, i.e. required and email, in order to make this example clear for newbies.

check / uncheck checkbox using jquery?

For jQuery 1.6+ :

.attr() is deprecated for properties; use the new .prop() function instead as:

$('#myCheckbox').prop('checked', true); // Checks it
$('#myCheckbox').prop('checked', false); // Unchecks it

For jQuery < 1.6:

To check/uncheck a checkbox, use the attribute checked and alter that. With jQuery you can do:

$('#myCheckbox').attr('checked', true); // Checks it
$('#myCheckbox').attr('checked', false); // Unchecks it

Cause you know, in HTML, it would look something like:

<input type="checkbox" id="myCheckbox" checked="checked" /> <!-- Checked -->
<input type="checkbox" id="myCheckbox" /> <!-- Unchecked -->

However, you cannot trust the .attr() method to get the value of the checkbox (if you need to). You will have to rely in the .prop() method.

sys.argv[1] meaning in script

sys.argv is a list.

This list is created by your command line, it's a list of your command line arguments.

For example:

in your command line you input something like this,

python3.2 file.py something

sys.argv will become a list ['file.py', 'something']

In this case sys.argv[1] = 'something'

How does Tomcat locate the webapps directory?

Find server.xml at $CATALINA_BASE/conf/server.xml

Find appBase attribute in <Host> element

by default it will be something like : <Host name="localhost" appBase="webapps ...>

Change appBase to your required path. There are different way people put it, but I use

/c:/myfolder/newwebapps

Remember, no slash at the end, but at start. Also note it's direction as well.

How to make a JTable non-editable

You can override the method isCellEditable and implement as you want for example:

//instance table model
DefaultTableModel tableModel = new DefaultTableModel() {

    @Override
    public boolean isCellEditable(int row, int column) {
       //all cells false
       return false;
    }
};

table.setModel(tableModel);

or

//instance table model
DefaultTableModel tableModel = new DefaultTableModel() {

   @Override
   public boolean isCellEditable(int row, int column) {
       //Only the third column
       return column == 3;
   }
};

table.setModel(tableModel);

Note for if your JTable disappears

If your JTable is disappearing when you use this it is most likely because you need to use the DefaultTableModel(Object[][] data, Object[] columnNames) constructor instead.

//instance table model
DefaultTableModel tableModel = new DefaultTableModel(data, columnNames) {

    @Override
    public boolean isCellEditable(int row, int column) {
       //all cells false
       return false;
    }
};

table.setModel(tableModel);

Dynamically add child components in React

First, I wouldn't use document.body. Instead add an empty container:

index.html:

<html>
    <head></head>
    <body>
        <div id="app"></div>
    </body>
</html>

Then opt to only render your <App /> element:

main.js:

var App = require('./App.js');
ReactDOM.render(<App />, document.getElementById('app'));

Within App.js you can import your other components and ignore your DOM render code completely:

App.js:

var SampleComponent = require('./SampleComponent.js');

var App = React.createClass({
    render: function() {
        return (
            <div>
                <h1>App main component!</h1>
                <SampleComponent name="SomeName" />
            </div>
        );
    }
});

SampleComponent.js:

var SampleComponent = React.createClass({
    render: function() {
        return (
            <div>
                <h1>Sample Component!</h1>
            </div>
        );
    }
});

Then you can programmatically interact with any number of components by importing them into the necessary component files using require.

How do I set default terminal to terminator?

devnull is right;

Could not open a connection to your authentication agent

Could not open a connection to your authentication agent

To resolve this error:

bash:

$ eval `ssh-agent -s`

tcsh:

$ eval `ssh-agent -c`

Then use ssh-add as you normally would.

Hot Tip:

I was always forgetting what to type for the above ssh-agent commands, so I created an alias in my .bashrc file like this:

alias ssh-agent-cyg='eval `ssh-agent -s`'

Now instead of using ssh-agent, I can use ssh-agent-cyg

E.g.

$ ssh-agent-cyg
SSH_AUTH_SOCK=/tmp/ssh-n16KsxjuTMiM/agent.32394; export SSH_AUTH_SOCK;
SSH_AGENT_PID=32395; export SSH_AGENT_PID;
echo Agent pid 32395;
$ ssh-add ~/.ssh/my_pk

Why Is `Export Default Const` invalid?

To me this is just one of many idiosyncracies (emphasis on the idio(t) ) of typescript that causes people to pull out their hair and curse the developers. Maybe they could work on coming up with more understandable error messages.

How to set java.net.preferIPv4Stack=true at runtime?

I ran into this very problem trying to send mail with javax.mail from a web application in a web server running Java 7. Internal mail server destinations failed with "network unreachable", despite telnet and ping working from the same host, and while external mail servers worked. I tried

System.setProperty("java.net.preferIPv4Stack" , "true");

in the code, but that failed. So the parameter value was probably cached earlier by the system. Setting the VM argument

-Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true

in the web server startup script worked.

One further bit of evidence: in a very small targeted test program, setting the system property in the code did work. So the parameter is probably cached when the first Socket is used, probably not just as the JVM starts.

Laravel requires the Mcrypt PHP extension

For php-fpm installations on Ubuntu 14.04, the following worked for me :

sudo apt-get install php5-mcrypt

This will create mcrypt.ini file inside /etc/php5/mods-available/

Then

sudo php5enmod mcrypt

will create a symlink in: /etc/php5/fpm/conf.d/

Just restart php-fpm services sudo service php5-fpm restart

SQL split values to multiple rows

If you can create a numbers table, that contains numbers from 1 to the maximum fields to split, you could use a solution like this:

select
  tablename.id,
  SUBSTRING_INDEX(SUBSTRING_INDEX(tablename.name, ',', numbers.n), ',', -1) name
from
  numbers inner join tablename
  on CHAR_LENGTH(tablename.name)
     -CHAR_LENGTH(REPLACE(tablename.name, ',', ''))>=numbers.n-1
order by
  id, n

Please see fiddle here.

If you cannot create a table, then a solution can be this:

select
  tablename.id,
  SUBSTRING_INDEX(SUBSTRING_INDEX(tablename.name, ',', numbers.n), ',', -1) name
from
  (select 1 n union all
   select 2 union all select 3 union all
   select 4 union all select 5) numbers INNER JOIN tablename
  on CHAR_LENGTH(tablename.name)
     -CHAR_LENGTH(REPLACE(tablename.name, ',', ''))>=numbers.n-1
order by
  id, n

an example fiddle is here.

When does a process get SIGABRT (signal 6)?

As "@sarnold", aptly pointed out, any process can send signal to any other process, hence, one process can send SIGABORT to other process & in that case the receiving process is unable to distinguish whether its coming because of its own tweaking of memory etc, or someone else has "unicastly", send to it.

In one of the systems I worked there is one deadlock detector which actually detects if process is coming out of some task by giving heart beat or not. If not, then it declares the process is in deadlock state and sends SIGABORT to it.

I just wanted to share this prospective with reference to question asked.

Check if a temporary table exists and delete if it exists before creating a temporary table

I cannot reproduce the error.

Perhaps I'm not understanding the problem.

The following works fine for me in SQL Server 2005, with the extra "foo" column appearing in the second select result:

CREATE TABLE #Results ( Company CHAR(3), StepId TINYINT, FieldId TINYINT )
GO
select company, stepid, fieldid from #Results
GO
ALTER TABLE #Results ADD foo VARCHAR(50) NULL
GO
select company, stepid, fieldid, foo from #Results
GO
IF OBJECT_ID('tempdb..#Results') IS NOT NULL DROP TABLE #Results
GO

Line break in HTML with '\n'

You should consider replacing your line breaks with <br/>. In HTML a line break will only stand for new line in your code.

Alternatively you can use some other HTML markups like placing your lines in paragraphs:

<p>Sample line</p>
<p>Another line</p>

or other wrappers like for instance <div>sample</div> with CSS attribute: display: block.

You can also use <pre>. The content of pre will have its HTML styling ignored. In other words it will display pure HTML with normal \n line breaks.

bodyParser is deprecated express 4

If you're using express > 4.16, you can use express.json() and express.urlencoded()

The express.json() and express.urlencoded() middleware have been added to provide request body parsing support out-of-the-box. This uses the expressjs/body-parser module module underneath, so apps that are currently requiring the module separately can switch to the built-in parsers.

Source Express 4.16.0 - Release date: 2017-09-28

With this,

const bodyParser  = require('body-parser');

app.use(bodyParser.urlencoded({ extended: true }));
app.use(bodyParser.json());

becomes,

const express = require('express');

app.use(express.urlencoded({ extended: true }));
app.use(express.json());

Specify sudo password for Ansible

After five years, I can see this is still a very relevant subject. Somewhat mirroring leucos's answer which I find the best in my case, using ansible tools only (without any centralised authentication, tokens or whatever). This assumes you have the same username and the same public key on all servers. If you don't, of course you'd need to be more specific and add the corresponding variables next to the hosts:

[all:vars]
ansible_ssh_user=ansible
ansible_ssh_private_key_file=home/user/.ssh/mykey
[group]
192.168.0.50 ansible_sudo_pass='{{ myserver_sudo }}'

ansible-vault create mypasswd.yml
ansible-vault edit mypasswd.yml

Add:

myserver_sudo: mysecretpassword

Then:

ansible-playbook -i inv.ini my_role.yml --ask-vault --extra-vars '@passwd.yml'

At least this way you don't have to write more the variables which point to the passwords.

Accessing a property in a parent Component

I made a generic component where I need a reference to the parent using it. Here's what I came up with:

In my component I made an @Input :

@Input()
parent: any;

Then In the parent using this component:

<app-super-component [parent]="this"> </app-super-component>

In the super component I can use any public thing coming from the parent:

Attributes:

parent.anyAttribute

Functions :

parent[myFunction](anyParameter)

and of course private stuff won't be accessible.

How do I convert special UTF-8 chars to their iso-8859-1 equivalent using javascript?

The problem is that once the page is served up, the content is going to be in the encoding described in the content-type meta tag. The content in "wrong" encoding is already garbled.

You're best to do this on the server before serving up the page. Or as I have been know to say: UTF-8 end-to-end or die.

True/False vs 0/1 in MySQL

If you are into performance, then it is worth using ENUM type. It will probably be faster on big tables, due to the better index performance.

The way of using it (source: http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.5/en/enum.html):

CREATE TABLE shirts (
    name VARCHAR(40),
    size ENUM('x-small', 'small', 'medium', 'large', 'x-large')
);

But, I always say that explaining the query like this:

EXPLAIN SELECT * FROM shirts WHERE size='medium';

will tell you lots of information about your query and help on building a better table structure. For this end, it is usefull to let phpmyadmin Propose a table table structure - but this is more a long time optimisation possibility, when the table is already filled with lots of data.

What is the difference between 'protected' and 'protected internal'?

protected: the variable or method will be available only to child classes (in any assembly)

protected internal: available to child classes in any assembly and to all the classes within the same assembly

Setting the target version of Java in ant javac

Use "target" attribute and remove the 'compiler' attribute. See here. So it should go something like this:

How do I revert back to an OpenWrt router configuration?

Some addition to previous comments: 'firstboot' won't be available until you run 'mount_root' command.

So here is a full recap of what needs to be done. All manipulations I did on Windows 8.1.

  • Enter Failsafe mode (hold the reset button on boot for a few seconds)
  • Assign a static IP address, 192.168.1.2, to your PC. Example of a command: netsh interface ip set address name="Ethernet" static 192.168.1.2 255.255.255.0 192.168.1.1
  • Connect to address 192.168.1.1 from telnet (I use PuTTY) and login/password isn't required).
  • Run 'mount_root' (otherwise 'firstboot' won't be available).
  • Run 'firstboot' to reset.
  • Run 'reboot -f' to reboot.

Now you can enter to the router console from a browser. Also don't forget to return your PC from static to DHCP address assignment. Example: netsh interface ip set address name="Ethernet" source=dhcp

Clicking at coordinates without identifying element

I used AutoIt to do it.

using AutoIt;
AutoItX.MouseClick("LEFT",150,150,1,0);//1: click once, 0: Move instantaneous
  1. Pro:
    • simple
    • regardless of mouse movement
  2. Con:
    • since coordinate is screen-based, there should be some caution if the app scales.
    • the drive won't know when the app finish with clicking consequence actions. There should be a waiting period.

SSIS Connection Manager Not Storing SQL Password

That answer points to this article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918760

Here are the proposed solutions - have you evaluated them?

  • Method 1: Use a SQL Server Agent proxy account

Create a SQL Server Agent proxy account. This proxy account must use a credential that lets SQL Server Agent run the job as the account that created the package or as an account that has the required permissions.

This method works to decrypt secrets and satisfies the key requirements by user. However, this method may have limited success because the SSIS package user keys involve the current user and the current computer. Therefore, if you move the package to another computer, this method may still fail, even if the job step uses the correct proxy account. Back to the top

  • Method 2: Set the SSIS Package ProtectionLevel property to ServerStorage

Change the SSIS Package ProtectionLevel property to ServerStorage. This setting stores the package in a SQL Server database and allows access control through SQL Server database roles. Back to the top

  • Method 3: Set the SSIS Package ProtectionLevel property to EncryptSensitiveWithPassword

Change the SSIS Package ProtectionLevel property to EncryptSensitiveWithPassword. This setting uses a password for encryption. You can then modify the SQL Server Agent job step command line to include this password.

  • Method 4: Use SSIS Package configuration files

Use SSIS Package configuration files to store sensitive information, and then store these configuration files in a secured folder. You can then change the ProtectionLevel property to DontSaveSensitive so that the package is not encrypted and does not try to save secrets to the package. When you run the SSIS package, the required information is loaded from the configuration file. Make sure that the configuration files are adequately protected if they contain sensitive information.

  • Method 5: Create a package template

For a long-term resolution, create a package template that uses a protection level that differs from the default setting. This problem will not occur in future packages.

How to check if array element exists or not in javascript?

When trying to find out if an array index exists in JS, the easiest and shortest way to do it is through double negation.

console.log(!!a[1])   // true

How to extract IP Address in Spring MVC Controller get call?

In my case, I was using Nginx in front of my application with the following configuration:

location / {
     proxy_pass        http://localhost:8080/;
     proxy_set_header  X-Real-IP $remote_addr;
     proxy_set_header  X-Forwarded-For $proxy_add_x_forwarded_for;
     proxy_set_header  Host $http_host;
     add_header Content-Security-Policy 'upgrade-insecure-requests';
}

so in my application I get the real user ip like so:

String clientIP = request.getHeader("X-Real-IP");

Using the last-child selector

If you are floating the elements you can reverse the order

i.e. float: right; instead of float: left;

And then use this method to select the first-child of a class.

/* 1: Apply style to ALL instances */
#header .some-class {
  padding-right: 0;
}
/* 2: Remove style from ALL instances except FIRST instance */
#header .some-class~.some-class {
  padding-right: 20px;
}

This is actually applying the class to the LAST instance only because it's now in reversed order.

Here is a working example for you:

<!doctype html>
<head><title>CSS Test</title>
<style type="text/css">
.some-class { margin: 0; padding: 0 20px; list-style-type: square; }
.lfloat { float: left; display: block; }
.rfloat { float: right; display: block; }
/* apply style to last instance only */
#header .some-class {
  border: 1px solid red;
  padding-right: 0;
}
#header .some-class~.some-class {
  border: 0;
  padding-right: 20px;
}
</style>
</head>
<body>
<div id="header">
  <img src="some_image" title="Logo" class="lfloat no-border"/>
  <ul class="some-class rfloat">
    <li>List 1-1</li>
    <li>List 1-2</li>
    <li>List 1-3</li>
  </ul>
  <ul class="some-class rfloat">
    <li>List 2-1</li>
    <li>List 2-2</li>
    <li>List 2-3</li>
  </ul>
  <ul class="some-class rfloat">
    <li>List 3-1</li>
    <li>List 3-2</li>
    <li>List 3-3</li>
  </ul>
  <img src="some_other_img" title="Icon" class="rfloat no-border"/>
</div>
</body>
</html>

how to include glyphicons in bootstrap 3

I think your particular problem isn't how to use Glyphicons but understanding how Bootstrap files work together.

Bootstrap requires a specific file structure to work. I see from your code you have this:

<link href="bootstrap.css" rel="stylesheet" media="screen">

Your Bootstrap.css is being loaded from the same location as your page, this would create a problem if you didn't adjust your file structure.

But first, let me recommend you setup your folder structure like so:

/css      <-- Bootstrap.css here
/fonts    <-- Bootstrap fonts here
/img
/js       <-- Bootstrap JavaScript here
index.html

If you notice, this is also how Bootstrap structures its files in its download ZIP.

You then include your Bootstrap file like so:

<link href="css/bootstrap.css" rel="stylesheet" media="screen">
or
<link href="./css/bootstrap.css" rel="stylesheet" media="screen">
or
<link href="/css/bootstrap.css" rel="stylesheet" media="screen">

Depending on your server structure or what you're going for.

The first and second are relative to your file's current directory. The second one is just more explicit by saying "here" (./) first then css folder (/css).

The third is good if you're running a web server, and you can just use relative to root notation as the leading "/" will be always start at the root folder.

So, why do this?

Bootstrap.css has this specific line for Glyphfonts:

@font-face {
    font-family: 'Glyphicons Halflings';
    src: url('../fonts/glyphicons-halflings-regular.eot');
    src: url('../fonts/glyphicons-halflings-regular.eot?#iefix') format('embedded-opentype'), url('../fonts/glyphicons-halflings-regular.woff') format('woff'), url('../fonts/glyphicons-halflings-regular.ttf') format('truetype'), url('../fonts/glyphicons-halflings-regular.svg#glyphicons-halflingsregular') format('svg');
}

What you can see is that that Glyphfonts are loaded by going up one directory ../ and then looking for a folder called /fonts and THEN loading the font file.

The URL address is relative to the location of the CSS file. So, if your CSS file is at the same location like this:

/fonts
Bootstrap.css
index.html

The CSS file is going one level deeper than looking for a /fonts folder.

So, let's say the actual location of these files are:

C:\www\fonts
C:\www\Boostrap.css
C:\www\index.html

The CSS file would technically be looking for a folder at:

C:\fonts

but your folder is actually in:

C:\www\fonts

So see if that helps. You don't have to do anything 'special' to load Bootstrap Glyphicons, except make sure your folder structure is set up appropriately.

When you get that fixed, your HTML should simply be:

<span class="glyphicon glyphicon-comment"></span>

Note, you need both classes. The first class glyphicon sets up the basic styles while glyphicon-comment sets the specific image.

Run Batch File On Start-up

There are a few ways to run a batch file on start up. The one I usually use is through task scheduler. If you press the windows key then type task scheduler it will come up as an option (or find through administerative tools).

When you create a new task you can chose from trigger options such as 'At log on' for a specific user, on workstation unlock etc. Then in actions you select start a program and put the full path to your batch script (there is also an option to put any command line args required).

Here is a an example script to launch Stack Overflow in Firefox:

@echo off

REM Optional - I tend to log these sorts of events so that you can see what has happened afterwards
echo %date% %time%, %computername% >> %logs%\StackOverflowAuto.csv

exit

Execution sequence of Group By, Having and Where clause in SQL Server?

WHERE is first, then you GROUP the result of the query, and last but not least HAVING-clause is taken to filter the grouped result. This is the "logical" order, I don't know how this is technically implemented in the engine.

Why is Event.target not Element in Typescript?

Using typescript, I use a custom interface that only applies to my function. Example use case.

  handleChange(event: { target: HTMLInputElement; }) {
    this.setState({ value: event.target.value });
  }

In this case, the handleChange will receive an object with target field that is of type HTMLInputElement.

Later in my code I can use

<input type='text' value={this.state.value} onChange={this.handleChange} />

A cleaner approach would be to put the interface to a separate file.

interface HandleNameChangeInterface {
  target: HTMLInputElement;
}

then later use the following function definition:

  handleChange(event: HandleNameChangeInterface) {
    this.setState({ value: event.target.value });
  }

In my usecase, it's expressly defined that the only caller to handleChange is an HTML element type of input text.

        </head>
        <body>
            <p>This paragraph will be indented by 50px. I hope this helps! Only the first line will be indented.</p>
        </body>

What are projection and selection?

Projections and Selections are two unary operations in Relational Algebra and has practical applications in RDBMS (relational database management systems).

In practical sense, yes Projection means selecting specific columns (attributes) from a table and Selection means filtering rows (tuples). Also, for a conventional table, Projection and Selection can be termed as vertical and horizontal slicing or filtering.

Wikipedia provides more formal definitions of these with examples and they can be good for further reading on relational algebra:

buffer_size : Upper limit, in bytes, the amount of buffered information. Setting buffer_size to NULL specifies that there should be no limit. The maximum size is 1,000,000, and the minimum is 2,000 when the user specifies buffer_size (NOT NULL).

How do I prompt a user for confirmation in bash script?

use case/esac.

read -p "Continue (y/n)?" choice
case "$choice" in
  y|Y ) echo "yes";;
  n|N ) echo "no";;
  * ) echo "invalid";;
esac

advantage:

  1. neater
  2. can use "OR" condition easier
  3. can use character range, eg [yY][eE][sS] to accept word "yes", where any of its characters may be in lowercase or in uppercase.

Print text instead of value from C enum

TheDay maps back to some integer type. So:

printf("%s", TheDay);

Attempts to parse TheDay as a string, and will either print out garbage or crash.

printf is not typesafe and trusts you to pass the right value to it. To print out the name of the value, you'd need to create some method for mapping the enum value to a string - either a lookup table, giant switch statement, etc.

whitespaces in the path of windows filepath

(WINDOWS - AWS solution)
Solved for windows by putting tripple quotes around files and paths.
Benefits:
1) Prevents excludes that quietly were getting ignored.
2) Files/folders with spaces in them, will no longer kick errors.

    aws_command = 'aws s3 sync """D:/""" """s3://mybucket/my folder/"  --exclude """*RECYCLE.BIN/*""" --exclude """*.cab""" --exclude """System Volume Information/*""" '

Regular expression \p{L} and \p{N}

These are Unicode property shortcuts (\p{L} for Unicode letters, \p{N} for Unicode digits). They are supported by .NET, Perl, Java, PCRE, XML, XPath, JGSoft, Ruby (1.9 and higher) and PHP (since 5.1.0)

At any rate, that's a very strange regex. You should not be using alternation when a character class would suffice:

[\p{L}\p{N}_.-]*

Is there a way to make mv create the directory to be moved to if it doesn't exist?

i accomplished this with the install command on linux:

root@logstash:# myfile=bash_history.log.2021-02-04.gz ; install -v -p -D $myfile /tmp/a/b/$myfile

bash_history.log.2021-02-04.gz -> /tmp/a/b/bash_history.log.2021-02-04.gz

the only downside being the file permissions are changed:

root@logstash:# ls -lh /tmp/a/b/

-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 914 Fev  4 09:11 bash_history.log.2021-02-04.gz

if you dont mind resetting the permission, you can use:

-g, --group=GROUP set group ownership, instead of process' current group
-m, --mode=MODE set permission mode (as in chmod), instead of rwxr-xr-x
-o, --owner=OWNER   set ownership (super-user only)

Regular expressions in C: examples?

Regular expressions actually aren't part of ANSI C. It sounds like you might be talking about the POSIX regular expression library, which comes with most (all?) *nixes. Here's an example of using POSIX regexes in C (based on this):

#include <regex.h>
regex_t regex;
int reti;
char msgbuf[100];

/* Compile regular expression */
reti = regcomp(&regex, "^a[[:alnum:]]", 0);
if (reti) {
    fprintf(stderr, "Could not compile regex\n");
    exit(1);
}

/* Execute regular expression */
reti = regexec(&regex, "abc", 0, NULL, 0);
if (!reti) {
    puts("Match");
}
else if (reti == REG_NOMATCH) {
    puts("No match");
}
else {
    regerror(reti, &regex, msgbuf, sizeof(msgbuf));
    fprintf(stderr, "Regex match failed: %s\n", msgbuf);
    exit(1);
}

/* Free memory allocated to the pattern buffer by regcomp() */
regfree(&regex);

Alternatively, you may want to check out PCRE, a library for Perl-compatible regular expressions in C. The Perl syntax is pretty much that same syntax used in Java, Python, and a number of other languages. The POSIX syntax is the syntax used by grep, sed, vi, etc.

As for the "significance" of 9... I would say there is probably none. According to The Linux Programming Interface(p 388):

Each signal is defined as a unique (small) integer, starting sequentially from 1. These integers are defined in with symbolic names of the form SIGxxxx . Since the actual numbers used for each signal vary across implementations, it is these symbolic names that are always used in programs.

How to use random in BATCH script?

here is a example i created for you, it should display a dialog asking you to select a number 1-10, depending on the number you select, it will generate a random number example to a batch file that you named. If you select "1" then you will get a random 1 digit number example. if you select "10" then you will get a random 10 digit number example.

Stacked Bar Plot in R

             c(720, 350, 377, 255, 340, 615,  345),

             c(220, 240, 876, 789, 820, 100,   75))

a <- cbind(data[, 1], 1, c(1:4))
b <- cbind(data[, 2], 2, c(1:4))
c <- cbind(data[, 3], 3, c(1:4))
d <- cbind(data[, 4], 4, c(1:4))

How to correctly use "section" tag in HTML5?

In the W3 wiki page about structuring HTML5, it says:

<section>: Used to either group different articles into different purposes or subjects, or to define the different sections of a single article.

And then displays an image that I cleaned up:

enter image description here

It's also important to know how to use the <article> tag (from the same W3 link above):

<article> is related to <section>, but is distinctly different. Whereas <section> is for grouping distinct sections of content or functionality, <article> is for containing related individual standalone pieces of content, such as individual blog posts, videos, images or news items. Think of it this way - if you have a number of items of content, each of which would be suitable for reading on their own, and would make sense to syndicate as separate items in an RSS feed, then <article> is suitable for marking them up.

In our example, <section id="main"> contains blog entries. Each blog entry would be suitable for syndicating as an item in an RSS feed, and would make sense when read on its own, out of context, therefore <article> is perfect for them:

<section id="main">
    <article>
      <!-- first blog post -->
    </article>

    <article>
      <!-- second blog post  -->
    </article>

    <article>
      <!-- third blog post -->
    </article>
</section>

Simple huh? Be aware though that you can also nest sections inside articles, where it makes sense to do so. For example, if each one of these blog posts has a consistent structure of distinct sections, then you could put sections inside your articles as well. It could look something like this:

<article>
  <section id="introduction">
  </section>

  <section id="content">
  </section>

  <section id="summary">
  </section>
</article>

Android Studio rendering problems

In new update android studio 2.2 facing rendering issue then follow this steps.

I fixed it - in styles.xml file I changed

"Theme.AppCompat.Light.DarkActionBar"

to

"Base.Theme.AppCompat.Light.DarkActionBar"

It's some kind of hack I came across a long time ago to solve similar rendering problems in previous Android Studio versions.

Changing Shell Text Color (Windows)

Been looking into this for a while and not got any satisfactory answers, however...

1) ANSI escape sequences do work in a terminal on Linux

2) if you can tolerate a limited set of colo(u)rs try this:

print("hello", end=''); print("error", end='', file=sys.stderr); print("goodbye")

In idle "hello" and "goodbye" are in blue and "error" is in red.

Not fantastic, but good enough for now, and easy!

Is nested function a good approach when required by only one function?

It's actually fine to declare one function inside another one. This is specially useful creating decorators.

However, as a rule of thumb, if the function is complex (more than 10 lines) it might be a better idea to declare it on the module level.

How can I commit a single file using SVN over a network?

You have a file myFile.txt you want to commit.

The right procedure is :

  1. Move to the file folder
  2. svn up
  3. svn commit myFile.txt -m "Insert here a commit message!!!"

Hope this will help someone.

JQuery: if div is visible

You can use .is(':visible')

Selects all elements that are visible.

For example:

if($('#selectDiv').is(':visible')){

Also, you can get the div which is visible by:

$('div:visible').callYourFunction();

Live example:

_x000D_
_x000D_
console.log($('#selectDiv').is(':visible'));_x000D_
console.log($('#visibleDiv').is(':visible'));

What is the proper way to re-throw an exception in C#?

I know this is an old question, but I'm going to answer it because I have to disagree with all the answers here.

Now, I'll agree that most of the time you either want to do a plain throw, to preserve as much information as possible about what went wrong, or you want to throw a new exception that may contain that as an inner-exception, or not, depending on how likely you are to want to know about the inner events that caused it.

There is an exception though. There are several cases where a method will call into another method and a condition that causes an exception in the inner call should be considered the same exception on the outer call.

One example is a specialised collection implemented by using another collection. Let's say it's a DistinctList<T> that wraps a List<T> but refuses duplicate items.

If someone called ICollection<T>.CopyTo on your collection class, it might just be a straight call to CopyTo on the inner collection (if say, all the custom logic only applied to adding to the collection, or setting it up). Now, the conditions in which that call would throw are exactly the same conditions in which your collection should throw to match the documentation of ICollection<T>.CopyTo.

Now, you could just not catch the execption at all, and let it pass through. Here though the user gets an exception from List<T> when they were calling something on a DistinctList<T>. Not the end of the world, but you may want to hide those implementation details.

Or you could do your own checking:

public CopyTo(T[] array, int arrayIndex)
{
  if(array == null)
    throw new ArgumentNullException("array");
  if(arrayIndex < 0)
    throw new ArgumentOutOfRangeException("arrayIndex", "Array Index must be zero or greater.");
  if(Count > array.Length + arrayIndex)
    throw new ArgumentException("Not enough room in array to copy elements starting at index given.");
  _innerList.CopyTo(array, arrayIndex);
}

That's not the worse code because it's boilerplate and we can probably just copy it from some other implementation of CopyTo where it wasn't a simple pass-through and we had to implement it ourselves. Still, it's needlessly repeating the exact same checks that are going to be done in _innerList.CopyTo(array, arrayIndex), so the only thing it has added to our code is 6 lines where there could be a bug.

We could check and wrap:

public CopyTo(T[] array, int arrayIndex)
{
  try
  {
    _innerList.CopyTo(array, arrayIndex);
  }
  catch(ArgumentNullException ane)
  {
    throw new ArgumentNullException("array", ane);
  }
  catch(ArgumentOutOfRangeException aore)
  {
    throw new ArgumentOutOfRangeException("Array Index must be zero or greater.", aore);
  }
  catch(ArgumentException ae)
  {
    throw new ArgumentException("Not enough room in array to copy elements starting at index given.", ae);
  }
}

In terms of new code added that could potentially be buggy, this is even worse. And we don't gain a thing from the inner exceptions. If we pass a null array to this method and receive an ArgumentNullException, we're not going to learn anything by examining the inner exception and learning that a call to _innerList.CopyTo was passed a null array and threw an ArgumentNullException.

Here, we can do everything we want with:

public CopyTo(T[] array, int arrayIndex)
{
  try
  {
    _innerList.CopyTo(array, arrayIndex);
  }
  catch(ArgumentException ae)
  {
    throw ae;
  }
}

Every one of the exceptions that we expect to have to throw if the user calls it with incorrect arguments, will correctly be thrown by that re-throw. If there's a bug in the logic used here, it's in one of two lines - either we were wrong in deciding this was a case where this approach works, or we were wrong in having ArgumentException as the exception type looked for. It's the only two bugs that the catch block can possibly have.

Now. I still agree that most of the time you either want a plain throw; or you want to construct your own exception to more directly match the problem from the perspective of the method in question. There are cases like the above where re-throwing like this makes more sense, and there are plenty of other cases. E.g. to take a very different example, if an ATOM file reader implemented with a FileStream and an XmlTextReader receives a file error or invalid XML, then it will perhaps want to throw exactly the same exception it received from those classes, but it should look to the caller that it is AtomFileReader that is throwing a FileNotFoundException or XmlException, so they might be candidates for similarly re-throwing.

Edit:

We can also combine the two:

public CopyTo(T[] array, int arrayIndex)
{
  try
  {
    _innerList.CopyTo(array, arrayIndex);
  }
  catch(ArgumentException ae)
  {
    throw ae;
  }
  catch(Exception ex)
  {
    //we weren't expecting this, there must be a bug in our code that put
    //us into an invalid state, and subsequently let this exception happen.
    LogException(ex);
    throw;
  }
}

Git blame -- prior commits?

git blame -L 10,+1 fe25b6d^ -- src/options.cpp

You can specify a revision for git blame to look back starting from (instead of the default of HEAD); fe25b6d^ is the parent of fe25b6d.

Edit: New to Git 2.23, we have the --ignore-rev option added to git blame:

git blame --ignore-rev fe25b6d

While this doesn't answer OP's question of giving the stack of commits (you'll use git log for that, as per the other answer), it is a better way of this solution, as you won't potentially misblame the other lines.

Fastest way to compute entropy in Python

My favorite function for entropy is the following:

def entropy(labels):
    prob_dict = {x:labels.count(x)/len(labels) for x in labels}
    probs = np.array(list(prob_dict.values()))

    return - probs.dot(np.log2(probs))

I am still looking for a nicer way to avoid the dict -> values -> list -> np.array conversion. Will comment again if I found it.

How can I copy a Python string?

Copying a string can be done two ways either copy the location a = "a" b = a or you can clone which means b wont get affected when a is changed which is done by a = 'a' b = a[:]

Force re-download of release dependency using Maven

When you added it to X, you should have incremented X's version number i.e X-1.2
Then X-1.2 should have been installed/deployed and you should have changed your projects dependency on X to be dependent on the new version X-1.2

Responsive Bootstrap Jumbotron Background Image

This is what I did.
First, just override the jumbotron class, and do the following:

.jumbotron{
    background: url("bg.jpg") no-repeat center center;
    -webkit-background-size: 100% 100%;
    -moz-background-size: 100% 100%;
    -o-background-size: 100% 100%;
    background-size: 100% 100%;
}

So, now you have a jumbotron with responsive background in place. However, as Irvin Zhan already answered, the height of the background still not showing correctly.

One thing you can do is fill your div with some spaces such as this:

<div class="jumbotron">
    <div class="container">
        About
        <br><br><br> <!--keep filling br until the height is to your liking-->
    </div>
</div>

Or, more elegantly, you can set the height of the container. You might want to add another class so that you don't override Bootstrap container class.

<div class="jumbotron">
    <div class="container push-spaces">
        About
    </div>
</div>

.push-spaces
{
    height: 100px;
}

Test if element is present using Selenium WebDriver?

I had the same issue. For me, depending on a user's permission level, some links, buttons and other elements will not show on the page. Part of my suite was testing that the elements that SHOULD be missing, are missing. I spent hours trying to figure this out. I finally found the perfect solution.

What this does, is tells the browser to look for any and all elements based specified. If it results in 0, that means no elements based on the specification was found. Then i have the code execute an if statement to let me know it was not found.

This is in C#, so translations would need to be done to Java. But shouldnt be too hard.

public void verifyPermission(string link)
{
    IList<IWebElement> adminPermissions = driver.FindElements(By.CssSelector(link));
    if (adminPermissions.Count == 0)
    {
        Console.WriteLine("User's permission properly hidden");
    }
}

There's also another path you can take depending on what you need for your test.

The following snippet is checking to see if a very specific element exists on the page. Depending on the element's existence I have the test execute an if else.

If the element exists and is displayed on the page, I have console.write let me know and move on. If the element in question exists, I cannot execute the test I needed, which is the main reasoning behind needing to set this up.

If the element Does Not exists, and is not displayed on the page. I have the else in the if else execute the test.

IList<IWebElement> deviceNotFound = driver.FindElements(By.CssSelector("CSS LINK GOES HERE"));
//if the element specified above results in more than 0 elements and is displayed on page execute the following, otherwise execute whats in the else statement
if (deviceNotFound.Count > 0 && deviceNotFound[0].Displayed){
    //script to execute if element is found
} else {
    //Test script goes here.
}

I know I'm a little late on the response to the OP. Hopefully this helps someone!

Python - difference between two strings

You can use ndiff in the difflib module to do this. It has all the information necessary to convert one string into another string.

A simple example:

PersistenceContext EntityManager injection NullPointerException

If you have any NamedQueries in your entity classes, then check the stack trace for compilation errors. A malformed query which cannot be compiled can cause failure to load the persistence context.

Better way to find index of item in ArrayList?

Use indexOf() method to find first occurrence of the element in the collection.

Creating a chart in Excel that ignores #N/A or blank cells

This is what I found as I was plotting only 3 cells from each 4 columns lumped together. My chart has a merged cell with the date which is my x axis. The problem: BC26-BE27 are plotting as ZERO on my chart. enter image description here

I click on the filter on the side of the chart and found where it is showing all the columns for which the data points are charted. I unchecked the boxes that do not have values. enter image description here

It worked for me.

Can I call methods in constructor in Java?

Singleton pattern

public class MyClass() {

    private static MyClass instance = null;
    /**
    * Get instance of my class, Singleton
    **/
    public static MyClass getInstance() {
        if(instance == null) {
            instance = new MyClass();
        }
        return instance;
    }
    /**
    * Private constructor
    */
    private MyClass() {
        //This will only be called once, by calling getInstanse() method.
    }
}

Printing Mongo query output to a file while in the mongo shell

AFAIK, there is no a interactive option for output to file, there is a previous SO question related with this: Printing mongodb shell output to File

However, you can log all the shell session if you invoked the shell with tee command:

$ mongo | tee file.txt
MongoDB shell version: 2.4.2
connecting to: test
> printjson({this: 'is a test'})
{ "this" : "is a test" }
> printjson({this: 'is another test'})
{ "this" : "is another test" }
> exit
bye

Then you'll get a file with this content:

MongoDB shell version: 2.4.2
connecting to: test
> printjson({this: 'is a test'})
{ "this" : "is a test" }
> printjson({this: 'is another test'})
{ "this" : "is another test" }
> exit
bye

To remove all the commands and keep only the json output, you can use a command similar to:

tail -n +3 file.txt | egrep -v "^>|^bye" > output.json

Then you'll get:

{ "this" : "is a test" }
{ "this" : "is another test" }

Warp \ bend effect on a UIView?

What you show looks like a mesh warp. That would be straightforward using OpenGL, but "straightforward OpenGL" is like straightforward rocket science.

I wrote an iOS app for my company called Face Dancerthat's able to do 60 fps mesh warp animations of video from the built-in camera using OpenGL, but it was a lot of work. (It does funhouse mirror type changes to faces - think "fat booth" live, plus lots of other effects.)

Is it possible to set the stacking order of pseudo-elements below their parent element?

I fixed it very simple:

.parent {
  position: relative;
  z-index: 1;
}

.child {
  position: absolute;
  z-index: -1;
}

What this does is stack the parent at z-index: 1, which gives the child room to 'end up' at z-index: 0 since other dom elements 'exist' on z-index: 0. If we don't give the parent an z-index of 1 the child will end up below the other dom elements and thus will not be visible.

This also works for pseudo elements like :after

In-memory size of a Python structure

These answers all collect shallow size information. I suspect that visitors to this question will end up here looking to answer the question, "How big is this complex object in memory?"

There's a great answer here: https://goshippo.com/blog/measure-real-size-any-python-object/

The punchline:

import sys

def get_size(obj, seen=None):
    """Recursively finds size of objects"""
    size = sys.getsizeof(obj)
    if seen is None:
        seen = set()
    obj_id = id(obj)
    if obj_id in seen:
        return 0
    # Important mark as seen *before* entering recursion to gracefully handle
    # self-referential objects
    seen.add(obj_id)
    if isinstance(obj, dict):
        size += sum([get_size(v, seen) for v in obj.values()])
        size += sum([get_size(k, seen) for k in obj.keys()])
    elif hasattr(obj, '__dict__'):
        size += get_size(obj.__dict__, seen)
    elif hasattr(obj, '__iter__') and not isinstance(obj, (str, bytes, bytearray)):
        size += sum([get_size(i, seen) for i in obj])
    return size

Used like so:

In [1]: get_size(1)
Out[1]: 24

In [2]: get_size([1])
Out[2]: 104

In [3]: get_size([[1]])
Out[3]: 184

If you want to know Python's memory model more deeply, there's a great article here that has a similar "total size" snippet of code as part of a longer explanation: https://code.tutsplus.com/tutorials/understand-how-much-memory-your-python-objects-use--cms-25609

You can simply do that by setting target="_blank", w3schools has an example.

When to use static keyword before global variables?

You should not define global variables in header files. You should define them in .c source file.

  • If global variable is to be visible within only one .c file, you should declare it static.

  • If global variable is to be used across multiple .c files, you should not declare it static. Instead you should declare it extern in header file included by all .c files that need it.

Example:

  • example.h

    extern int global_foo;

  • foo.c

    #include "example.h"

    int global_foo = 0;
    static int local_foo = 0;

    int foo_function()
    {
       /* sees: global_foo and local_foo
          cannot see: local_bar  */
       return 0;
    }

  • bar.c

    #include "example.h"

    static int local_bar = 0;
    static int local_foo = 0;

    int bar_function()
    {
        /* sees: global_foo, local_bar */
        /* sees also local_foo, but it's not the same local_foo as in foo.c
           it's another variable which happen to have the same name.
           this function cannot access local_foo defined in foo.c
        */
        return 0;
    }

How can I stream webcam video with C#?

If you want a "capture/streamer in a box" component, there are several out there as others have mentioned.

If you want to get down to the low-level control over it all, you'll need to use DirectShow as thealliedhacker points out. The best way to use DirectShow in C# is through the DirectShow.Net library - it wraps all of the DirectShow COM APIs and includes many useful shortcut functions for you.

In addition to capturing and streaming, you can also do recording, audio and video format conversions, audio and video live filters, and a whole lot of stuff.

Microsoft claims DirectShow is going away, but they have yet to release a new library or API that does everything that DirectShow provides. I suspect many of the latest things they have released are still DirectShow under the hood. Because of its status at Microsoft, there aren't a whole lot of books or references on it other than MSDN and what you can find on forums. Last year when we started a project using it, the best book on the subject - Programming Microsoft DirectShow - was out of print and going for around $350 for a used copy!

Cannot get to $rootScope

I don't suggest you to use syntax like you did. AngularJs lets you to have different functionalities as you want (run, config, service, factory, etc..), which are more professional.In this function you don't even have to inject that by yourself like

MainCtrl.$inject = ['$scope', '$rootScope', '$location', 'socket', ...];

you can use it, as you know.

MVC which submit button has been pressed

To make it easier I will say you can change your buttons to the following:

<input name="btnSubmit" type="submit" value="Save" />
<input name="btnProcess" type="submit" value="Process" />

Your controller:

public ActionResult Create(string btnSubmit, string btnProcess)
{
    if(btnSubmit != null)
       // do something for the Button btnSubmit
    else
       // do something for the Button btnProcess
}

Eclipse 3.5 Unable to install plugins

I also faced the same problem while working with eclips Neon. It got fixed after editing the .ini file with following content:

>    -Dhttp.proxyPort=8080

>    -Dhttp.proxyHost=myproxy

>    -Dhttp.proxyUser=mydomain\myusername

>    -Dhttp.proxyPassword=mypassword

>    -Dhttp.nonProxyHosts=localhost|127.0.0.1

>    -Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true

Note: Sometime it may also caused due to the issue with your Network configuration and device. So conform first that your windows firewall is allowing to connect your eclips to the outer world (internet). (Turn off the windows firewall for the instance of time that your computer take to install the file).

Find element's index in pandas Series

Converting to an Index, you can use get_loc

In [1]: myseries = pd.Series([1,4,0,7,5], index=[0,1,2,3,4])

In [3]: Index(myseries).get_loc(7)
Out[3]: 3

In [4]: Index(myseries).get_loc(10)
KeyError: 10

Duplicate handling

In [5]: Index([1,1,2,2,3,4]).get_loc(2)
Out[5]: slice(2, 4, None)

Will return a boolean array if non-contiguous returns

In [6]: Index([1,1,2,1,3,2,4]).get_loc(2)
Out[6]: array([False, False, True, False, False, True, False], dtype=bool)

Uses a hashtable internally, so fast

In [7]: s = Series(randint(0,10,10000))

In [9]: %timeit s[s == 5]
1000 loops, best of 3: 203 µs per loop

In [12]: i = Index(s)

In [13]: %timeit i.get_loc(5)
1000 loops, best of 3: 226 µs per loop

As Viktor points out, there is a one-time creation overhead to creating an index (its incurred when you actually DO something with the index, e.g. the is_unique)

In [2]: s = Series(randint(0,10,10000))

In [3]: %timeit Index(s)
100000 loops, best of 3: 9.6 µs per loop

In [4]: %timeit Index(s).is_unique
10000 loops, best of 3: 140 µs per loop

How to find the operating system version using JavaScript?

PL/SQL print out ref cursor returned by a stored procedure

Note: This code is untested

Define a record for your refCursor return type, call it rec. For example:

TYPE MyRec IS RECORD (col1 VARCHAR2(10), col2 VARCHAR2(20), ...);  --define the record
rec MyRec; -- instantiate the record

Once you have the refcursor returned from your procedure, you can add the following code where your comments are now:

LOOP
  FETCH refCursor INTO rec;
  EXIT WHEN refCursor%NOTFOUND;
  dbms_output.put_line(rec.col1||','||rec.col2||','||...);
END LOOP;

JPA entity without id

I guess you can use @CollectionOfElements (for hibernate/jpa 1) / @ElementCollection (jpa 2) to map a collection of "entity properties" to a List in entity.

You can create the EntityProperty type and annotate it with @Embeddable

C++11 reverse range-based for-loop

This should work in C++11 without boost:

{
    return p.first;
}
template<class T>
T end(std::pair<T, T> p)
{
    return p.second;
}
}

template<class Iterator>
std::reverse_iterator<Iterator> make_reverse_iterator(Iterator it)
{
    return std::reverse_iterator<Iterator>(it);
}

template<class Range>
std::pair<std::reverse_iterator<decltype(begin(std::declval<Range>()))>, std::reverse_iterator<decltype(begin(std::declval<Range>()))>> make_reverse_range(Range&& r)
{
    return std::make_pair(make_reverse_iterator(begin(r)), make_reverse_iterator(end(r)));
}

for(auto x: make_reverse_range(r))
{

Where do I find the current C or C++ standard documents?

C99 is available online. Quoted from www.open-std.org:

The lastest publically available version of the standard is the combined C99 + TC1 + TC2 + TC3, WG14 N1256, dated 2007-09-07. This is a WG14 working paper, but it reflects the consolidated standard at the time of issue.

Hide all elements with class using plain Javascript

Late answer, but I found out that this is the simplest solution (if you don't use jQuery):

var myClasses = document.querySelectorAll('.my-class'),
    i = 0,
    l = myClasses.length;

for (i; i < l; i++) {
    myClasses[i].style.display = 'none';
}

mysql update query with sub query

You can check your eav_attributes table to find the relevant attribute IDs for each image role, such as; eav_attributes

Then you can use those to set whichever role to any other role for all products like so;

UPDATE catalog_product_entity_varchar AS `v` INNER JOIN (SELECT `value`,`entity_id` FROM `catalog_product_entity_varchar` WHERE `attribute_id`=86) AS `j` ON `j`.`entity_id`=`v`.entity_id SET `v`.`value`=j.`value` WHERE `v`.attribute_id = 85 AND `v`.`entity_id`=`j`.`entity_id`

The above will set all your 'base' roles to the 'small' image of the same product.

// count will works with a collection of course:

How to apply a function to two columns of Pandas dataframe

The method you are looking for is Series.combine. However, it seems some care has to be taken around datatypes. In your example, you would (as I did when testing the answer) naively call

df['col_3'] = df.col_1.combine(df.col_2, func=get_sublist)

However, this throws the error:

ValueError: setting an array element with a sequence.

My best guess is that it seems to expect the result to be of the same type as the series calling the method (df.col_1 here). However, the following works:

df['col_3'] = df.col_1.astype(object).combine(df.col_2, func=get_sublist)

df

   ID   col_1   col_2   col_3
0   1   0   1   [a, b]
1   2   2   4   [c, d, e]
2   3   3   5   [d, e, f]

Is there a concurrent List in Java's JDK?

Because the act of acquiring the position and getting the element from the given position naturally requires some locking (you can't have the list have structural changes between those two operations).

The very idea of a concurrent collection is that each operation on its own is atomic and can be done without explicit locking/synchronization.

Therefore getting the element at position n from a given List as an atomic operation doesn't make too much sense in a situation where concurrent access is anticipated.

Sort an Array by keys based on another Array?

First Suggestion

function sortArrayByArray($array,$orderArray) {
    $ordered = array();
    foreach($orderArray as $key) {
        if(array_key_exists($key,$array)) {
            $ordered[$key] = $array[$key];
            unset($array[$key]);
        }
    }
    return $ordered + $array;
}

Second Suggestion

$properOrderedArray = array_merge(array_flip(array('name', 'dob', 'address')), $customer);

I wanted to point out that both of these suggestions are awesome. However, they are apples and oranges. The difference? One is non-associative friendly and the other is associative friendly. If you are using 2 fully associative arrays then the array merge/flip will actually merge and overwrite the other associative array. In my case that is not the results I was looking for. I used a settings.ini file to create my sort order array. The data array I was sorting did not need to written over by my associative sorting counterpart. Thus array merge would destroy my data array. Both are great methods, both need to be archived in any developers toolbox. Based on your needs you may find you actually need both concepts in your archives.

This is actually the conventional use of the break statement. If the break statement wasn't nested in an if block the for loop could only ever execute one time.

MSDN lists this as their example for the break statement.

How to crop an image in OpenCV using Python

Alternatively, you could use tensorflow for the cropping and openCV for making an array from the image.

import cv2
img = cv2.imread('YOURIMAGE.png')

Now img is a (imageheight, imagewidth, 3) shape array. Crop the array with tensorflow:

import tensorflow as tf
offset_height=0
offset_width=0
target_height=500
target_width=500
x = tf.image.crop_to_bounding_box(
    img, offset_height, offset_width, target_height, target_width
)

Reassemble the image with tf.keras, so we can look at it if it worked:

tf.keras.preprocessing.image.array_to_img(
    x, data_format=None, scale=True, dtype=None
)

This prints out the pic in a notebook (tested in Google Colab).

The whole code together:

import cv2
img = cv2.imread('YOURIMAGE.png')

import tensorflow as tf
offset_height=0
offset_width=0
target_height=500
target_width=500
x = tf.image.crop_to_bounding_box(
    img, offset_height, offset_width, target_height, target_width
)

tf.keras.preprocessing.image.array_to_img(
    x, data_format=None, scale=True, dtype=None
)

How can labels/legends be added for all chart types in chart.js (chartjs.org)?

Strangely, I didn't find anything about legends and labels in the Chart.js documentation. It seems like you can't do it with chart.js alone.

I used https://github.com/bebraw/Chart.js.legend which is extremely light, to generate the legends.

Intel X86 emulator accelerator (HAXM installer) VT/NX not enabled

In many cases some antivirus also start HyperV with window start and does not allow HAXM to install. I faced this issue because of AVAST antivirus. So I uninstalled AVAST, then HAXM installed properly after restart. Then I re-installed AVAST.

So its just a check while installing as now even with AVAST installed back, HAXM works properly with virtual box and android emulators.

Slide right to left Android Animations

You can do Your own Animation style as an xml file like this(put it in anim folder):

left to right:

  <set xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
     android:shareInterpolator="false">
        <translate android:fromXDelta="-100%" android:toXDelta="0%"
         android:fromYDelta="0%" android:toYDelta="0%"
         android:duration="500"/>
  </set>

right to left:

    <set xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
     android:shareInterpolator="false">
     <translate
        android:fromXDelta="0%" android:toXDelta="100%"
        android:fromYDelta="0%" android:toYDelta="0%"
        android:duration="500" />
   </set>

here You can set Your own values at duration, maybe it depends on the phone model how the animation will look like, try some values out if it looks not good.

and then You can call it in Your activity:

     Intent animActivity = new Intent(this,YourStartAfterAnimActivity.class);
      startActivity(nextActivity);

      overridePendingTransition(R.anim.your_left_to_right, R.anim.your_right_to_left);

How to set image name in Dockerfile?

Tagging of the image isn't supported inside the Dockerfile. This needs to be done in your build command. As a workaround, you can do the build with a docker-compose.yml that identifies the target image name and then run a docker-compose build. A sample docker-compose.yml would look like

version: '2'

services:
  man:
    build: .
    image: dude/man:v2

That said, there's a push against doing the build with compose since that doesn't work with swarm mode deploys. So you're back to running the command as you've given in your question:

docker build -t dude/man:v2 .

Personally, I tend to build with a small shell script in my folder (build.sh) which passes any args and includes the name of the image there to save typing. And for production, the build is handled by a ci/cd server that has the image name inside the pipeline script.

How do I discover memory usage of my application in Android?

Hackbod's is one of the best answers on Stack Overflow. It throws light on a very obscure subject. It helped me a lot.

Another really helpful resource is this must-see video: Google I/O 2011: Memory management for Android Apps

UPDATE:

Process Stats, a service to discover how your app manages memory explained at the blog post Process Stats: Understanding How Your App Uses RAM by Dianne Hackborn:

With form validation: why onsubmit="return functionname()" instead of onsubmit="functionname()"?

You need the return so the true/false gets passed up to the form's submit event (which looks for this and prevents submission if it gets a false).

Lets look at some standard JS:

function testReturn() { return false; }

If you just call that within any other code (be it an onclick handler or in JS elsewhere) it will get back false, but you need to do something with that value.

...
testReturn()
...

In that example the return value is coming back, but nothing is happening with it. You're basically saying execute this function, and I don't care what it returns. In contrast if you do this:

...
var wasSuccessful = testReturn();
...

then you've done something with the return value.

The same applies to onclick handlers. If you just call the function without the return in the onsubmit, then you're saying "execute this, but don't prevent the event if it return false." It's a way of saying execute this code when the form is submitted, but don't let it stop the event.

Once you add the return, you're saying that what you're calling should determine if the event (submit) should continue.

This logic applies to many of the onXXXX events in HTML (onclick, onsubmit, onfocus, etc).

         accordeon markup inside...
    </div>
</div>

What is the difference between vmalloc and kmalloc?

Short answer: download Linux Device Drivers and read the chapter on memory management.

Seriously, there are a lot of subtle issues related to kernel memory management that you need to understand - I spend a lot of my time debugging problems with it.

vmalloc() is very rarely used, because the kernel rarely uses virtual memory. kmalloc() is what is typically used, but you have to know what the consequences of the different flags are and you need a strategy for dealing with what happens when it fails - particularly if you're in an interrupt handler, like you suggested.

javascript object max size limit

There is no such limit on the string length. To be certain, I just tested to create a string containing 60 megabyte.

The problem is likely that you are sending the data in a GET request, so it's sent in the URL. Different browsers have different limits for the URL, where IE has the lowest limist of about 2 kB. To be safe, you should never send more data than about a kilobyte in a GET request.

To send that much data, you have to send it in a POST request instead. The browser has no hard limit on the size of a post, but the server has a limit on how large a request can be. IIS for example has a default limit of 4 MB, but it's possible to adjust the limit if you would ever need to send more data than that.

Also, you shouldn't use += to concatenate long strings. For each iteration there is more and more data to move, so it gets slower and slower the more items you have. Put the strings in an array and concatenate all the items at once:

var items = $.map(keys, function(item, i) {
  var value = $("#value" + (i+1)).val().replace(/"/g, "\\\"");
  return
    '{"Key":' + '"' + Encoder.htmlEncode($(this).html()) + '"' + ",'+
    '" + '"Value"' + ':' + '"' + Encoder.htmlEncode(value) + '"}';
});
var jsonObj =
  '{"code":"' + code + '",'+
  '"defaultfile":"' + defaultfile + '",'+
  '"filename":"' + currentFile + '",'+
  '"lstResDef":[' + items.join(',') + ']}';

Wow. I know this is an ancient thread but all I can say is do not call TimeZone.setDefault() in any user-level code. Access files stored on Amazon S3 through web browser

I found this related question: Directory Listing in S3 Static Website

As it turns out, if you enable public read for the whole bucket, S3 can serve directory listings. Problem is they are in XML instead of HTML, so not very user-friendly.

There are three ways you could go for generating listings:

  • Generate index.html files for each directory on your own computer, upload them to s3, and update them whenever you add new files to a directory. Very low-tech. Since you're saying you're uploading build files straight from Travis, this may not be that practical since it would require doing extra work there.

  • Use a client-side S3 browser tool.

  • Use a server-side browser tool.

    • s3browser (PHP)
    • s3index Scala. Going by the existence of a Procfile, it may be readily deployable to Heroku. Not sure since I don't have any experience with Scala.

Usage of __slots__?

Slots are very useful for library calls to eliminate the "named method dispatch" when making function calls. This is mentioned in the SWIG documentation. For high performance libraries that want to reduce function overhead for commonly called functions using slots is much faster.

Now this may not be directly related to the OPs question. It is related more to building extensions than it does to using the slots syntax on an object. But it does help complete the picture for the usage of slots and some of the reasoning behind them.

How can I use external JARs in an Android project?

Copying the .jar file into the Android project's folder isn't always possible.
Especially if it's an output of another project in your workspace, and it keeps getting updated.

To solve this you'll have to add the jar as a linked file to your project, instead of importing it (which will copy it locally).

In the UI choose:

Project -> Import -> File System -> yourjar.jar -> (Options area) Advanced -> Create link in workspace.

The link is save in the .project file:

<linkedResources>
    <link>
        <name>yourjar.jar</name>
        <type>1</type>
        <locationURI>PARENT-5-PROJECT_LOC/bin/android_ndk10d_armeabi-v7a/yourjar.jar</locationURI>
    </link>
</linkedResources>

PARENT-5-PROJECT_LOC means relative to the project file, 5 directories up (../../../../../).

Then add it to the libraries:
Project -> Properties -> Java Build Path -> Libraries -> Add Jar -> yourjar.jar

In the same window choose the Order and Export tab and mark your jar so it will be added to the apk.

How to use MySQL DECIMAL?

DOUBLE columns are not the same as DECIMAL columns, and you will get in trouble if you use DOUBLE columns for financial data.

DOUBLE is actually just a double precision (64 bit instead of 32 bit) version of FLOAT. Floating point numbers are approximate representations of real numbers and they are not exact. In fact, simple numbers like 0.01 do not have an exact representation in FLOAT or DOUBLE types.

DECIMAL columns are exact representations, but they take up a lot more space for a much smaller range of possible numbers. To create a column capable of holding values from 0.0001 to 99.9999 like you asked you would need the following statement

CREATE TABLE your_table
(
    your_column DECIMAL(6,4) NOT NULL
);

The column definition follows the format DECIMAL(M, D) where M is the maximum number of digits (the precision) and D is the number of digits to the right of the decimal point (the scale).

This means that the previous command creates a column that accepts values from -99.9999 to 99.9999. You may also create an UNSIGNED DECIMAL column, ranging from 0.0000 to 99.9999.

For more information on MySQL DECIMAL the official docs are always a great resource.

Bear in mind that all of this information is true for versions of MySQL 5.0.3 and greater. If you are using previous versions, you really should upgrade.

Get path to execution directory of Windows Forms application

"Error 404 Not Found" in Magento Admin Login Page

I have just copied and moved a Magento site to a local area so I could work on it offline and had the same problem.

But in the end I found out Magento was forcing a redirect from http to https and I didn't have a SSL setup. So this solved my problem http://www.magentocommerce.com/wiki/recover/ssl_access_with_phpmyadmin

It pretty much says set web/secure/use_in_adminhtml value from 1 to 0 in the core_config_data to allow non-secure access to the admin area

Is it possible to delete an object's property in PHP?

This code is working fine for me in a loop

$remove = array(
    "market_value",
    "sector_id"
);

foreach($remove as $key){
    unset($obj_name->$key);
}

Python extract pattern matches

You can use groups (indicated with '(' and ')') to capture parts of the string. The match object's group() method then gives you the group's contents:

>>> import re
>>> s = 'name my_user_name is valid'
>>> match = re.search('name (.*) is valid', s)
>>> match.group(0)  # the entire match
'name my_user_name is valid'
>>> match.group(1)  # the first parenthesized subgroup
'my_user_name'

In Python 3.6+ you can also index into a match object instead of using group():

>>> match[0]  # the entire match
'name my_user_name is valid'
>>> match[1]  # the first parenthesized subgroup
'my_user_name'

Get current directory name (without full path) in a Bash script

Surprisingly, no one mentioned this alternative that uses only built-in bash commands:

i="$IFS";IFS='/';set -f;p=($PWD);set +f;IFS="$i";echo "${p[-1]}"

As an added bonus you can easily obtain the name of the parent directory with:

[ "${#p[@]}" -gt 1 ] && echo "${p[-2]}"

These will work on Bash 4.3-alpha or newer.

Ruby: kind_of? vs. instance_of? vs. is_a?

What is the difference?

From the documentation:

- (Boolean) instance_of?(class)
Returns true if obj is an instance of the given class.

and:

- (Boolean) is_a?(class)
- (Boolean) kind_of?(class)
Returns true if class is the class of obj, or if class is one of the superclasses of obj or modules included in obj.

If that is unclear, it would be nice to know what exactly is unclear, so that the documentation can be improved.

When should I use which?

Never. Use polymorphism instead.

Why are there so many of them?

I wouldn't call two "many". There are two of them, because they do two different things.

jQuery change URL of form submit

Try using this:

$(".move_to").on("click", function(e){
    e.preventDefault();
    $('#contactsForm').attr('action', "/test1").submit();
});

Moving the order in which you use .preventDefault() might fix your issue. You also didn't use function(e) so e.preventDefault(); wasn't working.

Here it is working: http://jsfiddle.net/TfTwe/1/ - first of all, click the 'Check action attribute.' link. You'll get an alert saying undefined. Then click 'Set action attribute.' and click 'Check action attribute.' again. You'll see that the form's action attribute has been correctly set to /test1.

Find the directory part (minus the filename) of a full path in access 97

This seems to work. The above doesn't in Excel 2010.

Function StripFilename(sPathFile As String) As String
'given a full path and file, strip the filename off the end and return the path
Dim filesystem As Object

Set filesystem = CreateObject("Scripting.FilesystemObject")

StripFilename = filesystem.GetParentFolderName(sPathFile) & "\"

Exit Function

End Function

How to remove part of a string?

I wanted to remove "www." from a href so I did this:

const str = "https://www.example.com/path";

str.split("www.").join("");

// https://example.com/path
