Programs & Examples On #Movie

Questions regarding movie data: read, write, compress, decode, transcode, and process. Also welcome questions regarding playing movies and displaying movies in various environments.

Better solution without exluding fields from Binding

You should not use your domain models in your views. ViewModels are the correct way to do it.

You need to map your domain model's necessary fields to viewmodel and then use this viewmodel in your controllers. This way you will have the necessery abstraction in your application.

If you never heard of viewmodels, take a look at this.

useState set method not reflecting change immediately

I just finished a rewrite with useReducer, following @kentcdobs article (ref below) which really gave me a solid result that suffers not one bit from these closure problems.

see: https://kentcdodds.com/blog/how-to-use-react-context-effectively

I condensed his readable boilerplate to my preferred level of DRYness -- reading his sandbox implementation will show you how it actually works.

Enjoy, I know I am !!

import React from 'react'

// ref: https://kentcdodds.com/blog/how-to-use-react-context-effectively

const ApplicationDispatch = React.createContext()
const ApplicationContext = React.createContext()

function stateReducer(state, action) {
  if (state.hasOwnProperty(action.type)) {
    return { ...state, [action.type]: state[action.type] = action.newValue };
  }
  throw new Error(`Unhandled action type: ${action.type}`);
}

const initialState = {
  keyCode: '',
  testCode: '',
  testMode: false,
  phoneNumber: '',
  resultCode: null,
  mobileInfo: '',
  configName: '',
  appConfig: {},
};

function DispatchProvider({ children }) {
  const [state, dispatch] = React.useReducer(stateReducer, initialState);
  return (
    <ApplicationDispatch.Provider value={dispatch}>
      <ApplicationContext.Provider value={state}>
        {children}
      </ApplicationContext.Provider>
    </ApplicationDispatch.Provider>
  )
}

function useDispatchable(stateName) {
  const context = React.useContext(ApplicationContext);
  const dispatch = React.useContext(ApplicationDispatch);
  return [context[stateName], newValue => dispatch({ type: stateName, newValue })];
}

function useKeyCode() { return useDispatchable('keyCode'); }
function useTestCode() { return useDispatchable('testCode'); }
function useTestMode() { return useDispatchable('testMode'); }
function usePhoneNumber() { return useDispatchable('phoneNumber'); }
function useResultCode() { return useDispatchable('resultCode'); }
function useMobileInfo() { return useDispatchable('mobileInfo'); }
function useConfigName() { return useDispatchable('configName'); }
function useAppConfig() { return useDispatchable('appConfig'); }

export {
  DispatchProvider,
  useKeyCode,
  useTestCode,
  useTestMode,
  usePhoneNumber,
  useResultCode,
  useMobileInfo,
  useConfigName,
  useAppConfig,
}

with a usage similar to this:

import { useHistory } from "react-router-dom";

// https://react-bootstrap.github.io/components/alerts
import { Container, Row } from 'react-bootstrap';

import { useAppConfig, useKeyCode, usePhoneNumber } from '../../ApplicationDispatchProvider';

import { ControlSet } from '../../components/control-set';
import { keypadClass } from '../../utils/style-utils';
import { MaskedEntry } from '../../components/masked-entry';
import { Messaging } from '../../components/messaging';
import { SimpleKeypad, HandleKeyPress, ALT_ID } from '../../components/simple-keypad';

export const AltIdPage = () => {
  const history = useHistory();
  const [keyCode, setKeyCode] = useKeyCode();
  const [phoneNumber, setPhoneNumber] = usePhoneNumber();
  const [appConfig, setAppConfig] = useAppConfig();

  const keyPressed = btn => {
    const maxLen = appConfig.phoneNumberEntry.entryLen;
    const newValue = HandleKeyPress(btn, phoneNumber).slice(0, maxLen);
    setPhoneNumber(newValue);
  }

  const doSubmit = () => {
    history.push('s');
  }

  const disableBtns = phoneNumber.length < appConfig.phoneNumberEntry.entryLen;

  return (
    <Container fluid className="text-center">
      <Row>
        <Messaging {...{ msgColors: appConfig.pageColors, msgLines: appConfig.entryMsgs.altIdMsgs }} />
      </Row>
      <Row>
        <MaskedEntry {...{ ...appConfig.phoneNumberEntry, entryColors: appConfig.pageColors, entryLine: phoneNumber }} />
      </Row>
      <Row>
        <SimpleKeypad {...{ keyboardName: ALT_ID, themeName: appConfig.keyTheme, keyPressed, styleClass: keypadClass }} />
      </Row>
      <Row>
        <ControlSet {...{ btnColors: appConfig.buttonColors, disabled: disableBtns, btns: [{ text: 'Submit', click: doSubmit }] }} />
      </Row>
    </Container>
  );
};

AltIdPage.propTypes = {};

Now everything persists smoothly everywhere across all my pages

Nice!

Thanks Kent!

Angular 6: saving data to local storage

You should define a key name while storing data to local storage which should be a string and value should be a string

 localStorage.setItem('dataSource', this.dataSource.length);

and to print, you should use getItem

console.log(localStorage.getItem('dataSource'));

Rounded Corners Image in Flutter

Use ClipRRect it will resolve your problem.

      ClipRRect(
              borderRadius: BorderRadius.all(Radius.circular(10.0)),
              child: Image.network(
                Constant.SERVER_LINK + model.userProfilePic,
                fit: BoxFit.cover,
              ),
            ),

Dart: mapping a list (list.map)

I try this same method, but with a different list with more values in the function map. My problem was to forget a return statement. This is very important :)

 bottom: new TabBar(
      controller: _controller,
      isScrollable: true,
      tabs:
        moviesTitles.map((title) { return Tab(text: title)}).toList()
      ,
    ),

Functions are not valid as a React child. This may happen if you return a Component instead of from render

What would be wrong with doing;

<div className="" key={index}>
   {i.title}
</div>

[/*Use IIFE */]

{(function () {
     if (child.children && child.children.length !== 0) {
     let menu = createMenu(child.children);
     console.log("nested menu", menu);
     return menu;
   }
 })()}

ReferenceError: fetch is not defined

You should add this import in your file:

import * as fetch from 'node-fetch';

And then, run this code to add the node-fetch:

yarn add node-fetch

How to make a movie out of images in python

Here is a minimal example using moviepy. For me this was the easiest solution.

import os
import moviepy.video.io.ImageSequenceClip
image_folder='folder_with_images'
fps=1

image_files = [image_folder+'/'+img for img in os.listdir(image_folder) if img.endswith(".png")]
clip = moviepy.video.io.ImageSequenceClip.ImageSequenceClip(image_files, fps=fps)
clip.write_videofile('my_video.mp4')

Angular 4: InvalidPipeArgument: '[object Object]' for pipe 'AsyncPipe'

In service file add following.

import { Injectable } from '@angular/core';
import { AngularFireDatabase } from 'angularfire2/database';

@Injectable()
export class MoviesService {

  constructor(private db: AngularFireDatabase) {}
  getMovies() {
    this.db.list('/movies').valueChanges();
  }
}

In Component add following.

import { Component, OnInit } from '@angular/core';
import { MoviesService } from './movies.service';

@Component({
  selector: 'app-movies',
  templateUrl: './movies.component.html',
  styleUrls: ['./movies.component.css']
})
export class MoviesComponent implements OnInit {
  movies$;

  constructor(private moviesDb: MoviesService) {
   this.movies$ = moviesDb.getMovies();
 }

In your html file add following.

<li  *ngFor="let m of movies$ | async">{{ m.name }} </li>

how to get rid of notification circle in right side of the screen?

YouTube Autoplay not working

mute=1 or muted=1 as suggested by @Fab will work. However, if you wish to enable autoplay with sound you should add allow="autoplay" to your embedded <iframe>.

<iframe type="text/html" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/-ePDPGXkvlw?autoplay=1" frameborder="0" allow="autoplay"></iframe>

This is officially supported and documented in Google's Autoplay Policy Changes 2017 post

Iframe delegation A feature policy allows developers to selectively enable and disable use of various browser features and APIs. Once an origin has received autoplay permission, it can delegate that permission to cross-origin iframes with a new feature policy for autoplay. Note that autoplay is allowed by default on same-origin iframes.

<!-- Autoplay is allowed. -->
<iframe src="https://cross-origin.com/myvideo.html" allow="autoplay">

<!-- Autoplay and Fullscreen are allowed. -->
<iframe src="https://cross-origin.com/myvideo.html" allow="autoplay; fullscreen">

When the feature policy for autoplay is disabled, calls to play() without a user gesture will reject the promise with a NotAllowedError DOMException. And the autoplay attribute will also be ignored.

Default values for Vue component props & how to check if a user did not set the prop?

This is an old question, but regarding the second part of the question - how can you check if the user set/didn't set a prop?

Inspecting this within the component, we have this.$options.propsData. If the prop is present here, the user has explicitly set it; default values aren't shown.

This is useful in cases where you can't really compare your value to its default, e.g. if the prop is a function.

How to convert JSON object to an Typescript array?

This is not an answer but option. I switched to https://github.com/joltup/rn-fetch-blob It works good both for form-data and files

JPA Hibernate Persistence exception [PersistenceUnit: default] Unable to build Hibernate SessionFactory

The issue is that you are not able to get a connection to MYSQL database and hence it is throwing an error saying that cannot build a session factory.

Please see the error below:

 Caused by: java.sql.SQLException: Access denied for user ''@'localhost' (using password: NO)

which points to username not getting populated.

Please recheck system properties

dataSource.setUsername(System.getProperty("root"));

some packages seems to be missing as well pointing to a dependency issue:

package org.gjt.mm.mysql does not exist

Please run a mvn dependency:tree command to check for dependencies

PermissionError: [Errno 13] Permission denied

Here is how I encountered the error:

import os

path = input("Input file path: ")

name, ext = os.path.basename(path).rsplit('.', 1)
dire = os.path.dirname(path)

with open(f"{dire}\\{name} temp.{ext}", 'wb') as file:
    pass

It works great if the user inputs a file path with more than one element, like

C:\\Users\\Name\\Desktop\\Folder

But I thought that it would work with an input like

file.txt

as long as file.txt is in the same directory of the python file. But nope, it gave me that error, and I realized that the correct input should've been

.\\file.txt

ReactJS - Add custom event listener to component

You could use componentDidMount and componentWillUnmount methods:

import React, { Component } from 'react';
import ReactDOM from 'react-dom';

class MovieItem extends Component
{
    _handleNVEvent = event => {
        ...
    };

    componentDidMount() {
        ReactDOM.findDOMNode(this).addEventListener('nv-event', this._handleNVEvent);
    }

    componentWillUnmount() {
        ReactDOM.findDOMNode(this).removeEventListener('nv-event', this._handleNVEvent);
    }

    [...]

}

export default MovieItem;

AttributeError: 'dict' object has no attribute 'predictors'

The dict.items iterates over the key-value pairs of a dictionary. Therefore for key, value in dictionary.items() will loop over each pair. This is documented information and you can check it out in the official web page, or even easier, open a python console and type help(dict.items). And now, just as an example:

>>> d = {'hello': 34, 'world': 2999}
>>> for key, value in d.items():
...   print key, value
...
world 2999
hello 34

The AttributeError is an exception thrown when an object does not have the attribute you tried to access. The class dict does not have any predictors attribute (now you know where to check it :) ), and therefore it complains when you try to access it. As easy as that.

ngOnInit not being called when Injectable class is Instantiated

I don't know about all the lifecycle hooks, but as for destruction, ngOnDestroy actually get called on Injectable when it's provider is destroyed (for example an Injectable supplied by a component).

From the docs :

Lifecycle hook that is called when a directive, pipe or service is destroyed.

Just in case anyone is interested in destruction check this question:

HTML 5 Video "autoplay" not automatically starting in CHROME

Extremeandy has mentioned as of Chrome 66 autoplay video has been disabled.

After looking into this I found that muted videos are still able to be autoplayed. In my case the video didn't have any audio, but adding muted to the video tag has fixed it:

Hopefully this will help others also.

Using DISTINCT along with GROUP BY in SQL Server

Perhaps not in the context that you have it, but you could use

SELECT DISTINCT col1,
PERCENTILE_CONT(col2) WITHIN GROUP (ORDER BY col2) OVER (PARTITION BY col1),
PERCENTILE_CONT(col2) WITHIN GROUP (ORDER BY col2) OVER (PARTITION BY col1, col3),
FROM TableA

You would use this to return different levels of aggregation returned in a single row. The use case would be for when a single grouping would not suffice all of the aggregates needed.

another reason this problem happens is when you call these methods with wrong indexes (indexes which there has NOT happened insert or remove in them)

-notifyItemRangeInserted

-notifyItemInserted

check indexe parameters to these methods and make sure they are precise and correct.

TypeScript getting error TS2304: cannot find name ' require'

This answer relates to modern setups (TypeScript 2.x, Webpack > 2.x)

You don't need to install @types/node (which is all of Node.js types and is irrelevant for front-end code, actually complicating things such as setTimout different return values, etc..

You do need to install @types/webpack-env

npm i -D @types/webpack-env

which gives the runtime signatures that Webpack has (including require, require.ensure, etc.)

Also make sure that your tsconfig.json file has no set 'types' array -> which will make it pickup all type definitions in your node_modules/@types folder.

If you want to restrict search of types you can set the typeRoot property to node_modules/@types.

Go doing a GET request and building the Querystring

Use r.URL.Query() when you appending to existing query, if you are building new set of params use the url.Values struct like so

package main

import (
    "fmt"
    "log"
    "net/http"
    "net/url"
    "os"
)

func main() {
    req, err := http.NewRequest("GET","http://api.themoviedb.org/3/tv/popular", nil)
    if err != nil {
        log.Print(err)
        os.Exit(1)
    }

    // if you appending to existing query this works fine
    q := req.URL.Query()
    q.Add("api_key", "key_from_environment_or_flag")
    q.Add("another_thing", "foo & bar")

    // or you can create new url.Values struct and encode that like so
    q := url.Values{}
    q.Add("api_key", "key_from_environment_or_flag")
    q.Add("another_thing", "foo & bar")

    req.URL.RawQuery = q.Encode()

    fmt.Println(req.URL.String())
    // Output:
    // http://api.themoviedb.org/3/tv/popularanother_thing=foo+%26+bar&api_key=key_from_environment_or_flag
}

How to filter a RecyclerView with a SearchView

Following @Shruthi Kamoji in a cleaner way, we can just use a filterable, its meant for that:

public abstract class GenericRecycleAdapter<E> extends RecyclerView.Adapter implements Filterable
{
    protected List<E> list;
    protected List<E> originalList;
    protected Context context;

    public GenericRecycleAdapter(Context context,
    List<E> list)
    {
        this.originalList = list;
        this.list = list;
        this.context = context;
    }

    ...

    @Override
    public Filter getFilter() {
        return new Filter() {
            @SuppressWarnings("unchecked")
            @Override
            protected void publishResults(CharSequence constraint, FilterResults results) {
                list = (List<E>) results.values;
                notifyDataSetChanged();
            }

            @Override
            protected FilterResults performFiltering(CharSequence constraint) {
                List<E> filteredResults = null;
                if (constraint.length() == 0) {
                    filteredResults = originalList;
                } else {
                    filteredResults = getFilteredResults(constraint.toString().toLowerCase());
                }

                FilterResults results = new FilterResults();
                results.values = filteredResults;

                return results;
            }
        };
    }

    protected List<E> getFilteredResults(String constraint) {
        List<E> results = new ArrayList<>();

        for (E item : originalList) {
            if (item.getName().toLowerCase().contains(constraint)) {
                results.add(item);
            }
        }
        return results;
    }
}

The E here is a Generic Type, you can extend it using your class:

public class customerAdapter extends GenericRecycleAdapter<CustomerModel>

Or just change the E to the type you want (<CustomerModel> for example)

Then from searchView (the widget you can put on menu.xml):

searchView.setOnQueryTextListener(new SearchView.OnQueryTextListener() {
    @Override
    public boolean onQueryTextSubmit(String text) {
        return false;
    }

    @Override
    public boolean onQueryTextChange(String text) {
        yourAdapter.getFilter().filter(text);
        return true;
    }
});

Adding placeholder attribute using Jquery

This line of code might not work in IE 8 because of native support problems.

$(".hidden").attr("placeholder", "Type here to search");

You can try importing a JQuery placeholder plugin for this task. Simply import it to your libraries and initiate from the sample code below.

$('input, textarea').placeholder();

Streaming a video file to an html5 video player with Node.js so that the video controls continue to work?

The Accept Ranges header (the bit in writeHead()) is required for the HTML5 video controls to work.

I think instead of just blindly send the full file, you should first check the Accept Ranges header in the REQUEST, then read in and send just that bit. fs.createReadStream support start, and end option for that.

So I tried an example and it works. The code is not pretty but it is easy to understand. First we process the range header to get the start/end position. Then we use fs.stat to get the size of the file without reading the whole file into memory. Finally, use fs.createReadStream to send the requested part to the client.

var fs = require("fs"),
    http = require("http"),
    url = require("url"),
    path = require("path");

http.createServer(function (req, res) {
  if (req.url != "/movie.mp4") {
    res.writeHead(200, { "Content-Type": "text/html" });
    res.end('<video src="http://localhost:8888/movie.mp4" controls></video>');
  } else {
    var file = path.resolve(__dirname,"movie.mp4");
    fs.stat(file, function(err, stats) {
      if (err) {
        if (err.code === 'ENOENT') {
          // 404 Error if file not found
          return res.sendStatus(404);
        }
      res.end(err);
      }
      var range = req.headers.range;
      if (!range) {
       // 416 Wrong range
       return res.sendStatus(416);
      }
      var positions = range.replace(/bytes=/, "").split("-");
      var start = parseInt(positions[0], 10);
      var total = stats.size;
      var end = positions[1] ? parseInt(positions[1], 10) : total - 1;
      var chunksize = (end - start) + 1;

      res.writeHead(206, {
        "Content-Range": "bytes " + start + "-" + end + "/" + total,
        "Accept-Ranges": "bytes",
        "Content-Length": chunksize,
        "Content-Type": "video/mp4"
      });

      var stream = fs.createReadStream(file, { start: start, end: end })
        .on("open", function() {
          stream.pipe(res);
        }).on("error", function(err) {
          res.end(err);
        });
    });
  }
}).listen(8888);

ORA-00907: missing right parenthesis

Firstly, in histories_T, you are referencing table T_customer (should be T_customers) and secondly, you are missing the FOREIGN KEY clause that REFERENCES orders; which is not being created (or dropped) with the code you provided.

There may be additional errors as well, and I admit Oracle has never been very good at describing the cause of errors - "Mutating Tables" is a case in point.

Let me know if there additional problems you are missing.

What does %>% mean in R

The infix operator %>% is not part of base R, but is in fact defined by the package magrittr (CRAN) and is heavily used by dplyr (CRAN).

It works like a pipe, hence the reference to Magritte's famous painting The Treachery of Images.

What the function does is to pass the left hand side of the operator to the first argument of the right hand side of the operator. In the following example, the data frame iris gets passed to head():

library(magrittr)
iris %>% head()
  Sepal.Length Sepal.Width Petal.Length Petal.Width Species
1          5.1         3.5          1.4         0.2  setosa
2          4.9         3.0          1.4         0.2  setosa
3          4.7         3.2          1.3         0.2  setosa
4          4.6         3.1          1.5         0.2  setosa
5          5.0         3.6          1.4         0.2  setosa
6          5.4         3.9          1.7         0.4  setosa

Thus, iris %>% head() is equivalent to head(iris).

Often, %>% is called multiple times to "chain" functions together, which accomplishes the same result as nesting. For example in the chain below, iris is passed to head(), then the result of that is passed to summary().

iris %>% head() %>% summary()

Thus iris %>% head() %>% summary() is equivalent to summary(head(iris)). Some people prefer chaining to nesting because the functions applied can be read from left to right rather than from inside out.

You don't have to float both movie_item_poster AND movie_item_content. Just float one of them...

#movie_item {
    position: relative;
    margin-top: 10px;
    height: 175px;
}

.movie_item_poster {
    float: left;
    height: 150px;
    width: 100px;
}

.movie_item_content {
    position: relative;
}

.movie_item_content_title {
}

.movie_item_content_year {
    float: right;
}

.movie_item_content_plot {
}

.movie_item_toolbar {
    clear: both;
    vertical-align: bottom;
    width: 100%;
    height: 25px;
}

Here it is as a JSFiddle.

HTML5 Video not working in IE 11

I know this is old, but here is a additional thing if you still encounter problems with the solution above.

Just put in your <head> :

<meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=edge">

It will prevent IE to jump back to IE9 compatibility, thus breaking the video function. Worked for me, so if you still have problems, consider checking this out.

Alternatively you can add this in PHP :

header('x-ua-compatible: ie=edge');

Or in a .htaccess file:

header set X-UA-Compatible "IE=Edge"

Get value from input (AngularJS)

If you want to get values in Javascript on frontend, you can use the native way to do it by using :

document.getElementsByName("movie")[0].value;

Where "movie" is the name of your input <input type="text" name="movie">

If you want to get it on angular.js controller, you can use;

$scope.movie

HTML5 video won't play in Chrome only

ASP.NET Identity DbContext confusion

There is a lot of confusion about IdentityDbContext, a quick search in Stackoverflow and you'll find these questions:
" Why is Asp.Net Identity IdentityDbContext a Black-Box?
How can I change the table names when using Visual Studio 2013 AspNet Identity?
Merge MyDbContext with IdentityDbContext"

To answer to all of these questions we need to understand that IdentityDbContext is just a class inherited from DbContext.
Let's take a look at IdentityDbContext source:

/// <summary>
/// Base class for the Entity Framework database context used for identity.
/// </summary>
/// <typeparam name="TUser">The type of user objects.</typeparam>

Based on the source code if we want to merge IdentityDbContext with our DbContext we have two options:

First Option:
Create a DbContext which inherits from IdentityDbContext and have access to the classes.

   public class ApplicationDbContext
    : IdentityDbContext
{
    public ApplicationDbContext()
        : base("DefaultConnection")
    {
    }

    static ApplicationDbContext()
    {
        Database.SetInitializer<ApplicationDbContext>(new ApplicationDbInitializer());
    }

    public static ApplicationDbContext Create()
    {
        return new ApplicationDbContext();
    }

    // Add additional items here as needed
}

Extra Notes:

1) We can also change asp.net Identity default table names with the following solution:

    public class ApplicationDbContext : IdentityDbContext
    {
        public ApplicationDbContext(): base("DefaultConnection")
        {
        }

        protected override void OnModelCreating(System.Data.Entity.DbModelBuilder modelBuilder)
        {
            base.OnModelCreating(modelBuilder);
            modelBuilder.Entity<IdentityUser>().ToTable("user");
            modelBuilder.Entity<ApplicationUser>().ToTable("user");

            modelBuilder.Entity<IdentityRole>().ToTable("role");
            modelBuilder.Entity<IdentityUserRole>().ToTable("userrole");
            modelBuilder.Entity<IdentityUserClaim>().ToTable("userclaim");
            modelBuilder.Entity<IdentityUserLogin>().ToTable("userlogin");
        }
    }

2) Furthermore we can extend each class and add any property to classes like 'IdentityUser', 'IdentityRole', ...

    public class ApplicationRole : IdentityRole<string, ApplicationUserRole>
{
    public ApplicationRole()
    {
        this.Id = Guid.NewGuid().ToString();
    }

    public ApplicationRole(string name)
        : this()
    {
        this.Name = name;
    }

    // Add any custom Role properties/code here
}

// Must be expressed in terms of our custom types:
public class ApplicationDbContext
    : IdentityDbContext<ApplicationUser, ApplicationRole,
    string, ApplicationUserLogin, ApplicationUserRole, ApplicationUserClaim>
{
    public ApplicationDbContext()
        : base("DefaultConnection")
    {
    }

    static ApplicationDbContext()
    {
        Database.SetInitializer<ApplicationDbContext>(new ApplicationDbInitializer());
    }

    public static ApplicationDbContext Create()
    {
        return new ApplicationDbContext();
    }

    // Add additional items here as needed
}

To save time we can use AspNet Identity 2.0 Extensible Project Template to extend all the classes.

Second Option:(Not recommended)
We actually don't have to inherit from IdentityDbContext if we write all the code ourselves.
So basically we can just inherit from DbContext and implement our customized version of "OnModelCreating(ModelBuilder builder)" from the IdentityDbContext source code

The object 'DF__*' is dependent on column '*' - Changing int to double

While dropping the columns from multiple tables, I faced following default constraints error. Similar issue appears if you need to change the datatype of column.

The object 'DF_TableName_ColumnName' is dependent on column 'ColumnName'.

To resolve this, I have to drop all those constraints first, by using following query

DECLARE @sql NVARCHAR(max)=''
SELECT @SQL += 'Alter table ' + Quotename(tbl.name) + '  DROP constraint ' + Quotename(cons.name) + ';'
 FROM SYS.DEFAULT_CONSTRAINTS cons
 JOIN   SYS.COLUMNS col ON col.default_object_id = cons.object_id
 JOIN   SYS.TABLES tbl ON tbl.object_id = col.object_id
 WHERE  col.[name] IN ('Column1','Column2')

--PRINT @sql
EXEC Sp_executesql @sql

After that, I dropped all those columns (my requirement, not mentioned in this question)

DECLARE @sql NVARCHAR(max)=''
SELECT @SQL += 'Alter table ' + Quotename(table_catalog)+ '.' + Quotename(table_schema) + '.'+ Quotename(TABLE_NAME)
               + '  DROP column ' + Quotename(column_name) + ';'
FROM   information_schema.columns where COLUMN_NAME IN ('Column1','Column2')
--PRINT @sql
EXEC Sp_executesql @sql

I posted here in case someone find the same issue.

Happy Coding!

Understanding Spring @Autowired usage

Nothing in the example says that the "classes implementing the same interface". MovieCatalog is a type and CustomerPreferenceDao is another type. Spring can easily tell them apart.

In Spring 2.x, wiring of beans mostly happened via bean IDs or names. This is still supported by Spring 3.x but often, you will have one instance of a bean with a certain type - most services are singletons. Creating names for those is tedious. So Spring started to support "autowire by type".

What the examples show is various ways that you can use to inject beans into fields, methods and constructors.

The XML already contains all the information that Spring needs since you have to specify the fully qualified class name in each bean. You need to be a bit careful with interfaces, though:

This autowiring will fail:

 @Autowired
 public void prepare( Interface1 bean1, Interface1 bean2 ) { ... }

Since Java doesn't keep the parameter names in the byte code, Spring can't distinguish between the two beans anymore. The fix is to use @Qualifier:

 @Autowired
 public void prepare( @Qualifier("bean1") Interface1 bean1,
     @Qualifier("bean2")  Interface1 bean2 ) { ... }

How to read xml file contents in jQuery and display in html elements?

Simply you can read XML file as dataType: "xml", it will retuen xml object already parsed. you can use it as jquery object and find anything or loop throw it…etc.

$(document).ready(function(){
   $.ajax({
    type: "GET" ,
    url: "sampleXML.xml" ,
    dataType: "xml" ,
    success: function(xml) {

    //var xmlDoc = $.parseXML( xml );   <------------------this line
    //if single item
    var person = $(xml).find('person').text();

    //but if it's multible items then loop
    $(xml).find('person').each(function(){
     $("#temp").append('<li>' + $(this).text() + '</li>');
    });
    }
});
});

Trigger an action after selection select2

There was made some changes to the select2 events names (I think on v. 4 and later) so the '-' is changed into this ':'.
See the next examples:

$('#select').on("select2:select", function(e) {
    //Do stuff
});

You can check all the events at the 'select2' plugin site: select2 Events

Cutting the videos based on start and end time using ffmpeg

Even though I'm 6 years late, but I think all the answers above didn't properly address the question @kalai is asking. The bash script below will process a text file in the following format:

URL | start_time | end_time | filename

for example

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iUDURCrvrMI|00:02:02|00:03:41|1

and loop through the file, downloads the file that youtube-dl supports, calculating duration between start_time and end_time and passing it to ffmpeg, since -t is actually the duration, not the real end_time

Hit me up if you have any question.

    for i in $(<video.txt);
    do
        URL=`echo $i | cut -d "|" -f 1`;
        START=`echo $i | cut -d "|" -f 2`;
        END=`echo $i | cut -d "|" -f 3`;
        FILE=`echo $i | cut -d "|" -f 4`;

        SEC1=`echo $START | sed 's/^/((/; s/:/)*60+/g' | bc`
        SEC2=`echo $END | sed 's/^/((/; s/:/)*60+/g' | bc`

        DIFFSEC=`expr ${SEC2} - ${SEC1}`

        ffmpeg $(youtube-dl -g $URL | sed "s/.*/-ss $START -i &/") -t $DIFFSEC -c copy $FILE".mkv";
        ffmpeg -i $FILE".mkv" -f mp3 -ab 192000 -vn $FILE".mp3";
        rm $FILE".mkv";
    done;

CROSS JOIN vs INNER JOIN in SQL

Cross join and inner join are the same with the only difference that in inner join we booleanly filter some of the outcomes of the cartesian product

table1
x--------------------------------------x
|  fieldA  |    fieldB   |    fieldC   |
x----------|-------------|-------------x
|    A     |      B      |    option1  |
|    A     |      B1     |    option2  |
x--------------------------------------x

table2
x--------------------------------------x
|  fieldA  |    fieldB   |    fieldC   |
x----------|-------------|-------------x
|    A     |      B      |    optionB1 |
|    A1    |      B1     |    optionB2 |
x--------------------------------------x

 cross join
  A,B,option1,A,B,optionB1
  A,B,option1,A1,B1,optionB2
  A,B1,option2,A,B,optionB1
  A,B1,option2,A1,B1,optionB2

 inner join on field1 (only with the value is the same in both tables)
  A,B,option1,A,B,optionB1
  A,B1,option2,A,B,optionB1

 inner join on field1
  A,B,option1,A,B,optionB1

It is on design of our data where we decide that there is only one case of the field we are using for the join. Join only cross join both tables and get only the lines accomplishing special boolean expression.

Note that if the fields we are doing our Joins on would be null in both tables we would pass the filter. It is up to us or the database manufacturer to add extra rules to avoid or permit nulls. Adhering to the basics it is just a cross join followed by a filter.

How does Trello access the user's clipboard?

Something very similar can be seen on http://goo.gl when you shorten the URL.

There is a readonly input element that gets programmatically focused, with tooltip press CTRL-C to copy.

When you hit that shortcut, the input content effectively gets into the clipboard. Really nice :)

how to parse JSONArray in android

getJSONArray(attrname) will get you an array from the object of that given attribute name in your case what is happening is that for

{"abridged_cast":["name": blah...]}
^ its trying to search for a value "characters"

but you need to get into the array and then do a search for "characters"

try this

String json="{'abridged_cast':[{'name':'JeffBridges','id':'162655890','characters':['JackPrescott']},{'name':'CharlesGrodin','id':'162662571','characters':['FredWilson']},{'name':'JessicaLange','id':'162653068','characters':['Dwan']},{'name':'JohnRandolph','id':'162691889','characters':['Capt.Ross']},{'name':'ReneAuberjonois','id':'162718328','characters':['Bagley']}]}";

    JSONObject jsonResponse;
    try {
        ArrayList<String> temp = new ArrayList<String>();
        jsonResponse = new JSONObject(json);
        JSONArray movies = jsonResponse.getJSONArray("abridged_cast");
        for(int i=0;i<movies.length();i++){
            JSONObject movie = movies.getJSONObject(i);
            JSONArray characters = movie.getJSONArray("characters");
            for(int j=0;j<characters.length();j++){
                temp.add(characters.getString(j));
            }
        }
        Toast.makeText(this, "Json: "+temp, Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show();
    } catch (JSONException e) {
        // TODO Auto-generated catch block
        e.printStackTrace();
    }

checked it :)

How to filter multiple values (OR operation) in angularJS

I would just create a custom filter. They are not that hard.

angular.module('myFilters', []).
  filter('bygenre', function() {
    return function(movies,genres) {
      var out = [];
      // Filter logic here, adding matches to the out var.
      return out;
    }
  });

template:

<h1>Movies</h1>

<div ng-init="movies = [
          {title:'Man on the Moon', genre:'action'},
          {title:'Meet the Robinsons', genre:'family'},
          {title:'Sphere', genre:'action'}
       ];" />
<input type="checkbox" ng-model="genrefilters.action" />Action
<br />
<input type="checkbox" ng-model="genrefilters.family" />Family
<br />{{genrefilters.action}}::{{genrefilters.family}}
<ul>
    <li ng-repeat="movie in movies | bygenre:genrefilters">{{movie.title}}: {{movie.genre}}</li>
</ul>

UPDATE: Here is a fiddle that has an exact demo of my suggestion.

Concatenate multiple result rows of one column into one, group by another column

Simpler with the aggregate function string_agg() (Postgres 9.0 or later):

SELECT movie, string_agg(actor, ', ') AS actor_list
FROM   tbl
GROUP  BY 1;

The 1 in GROUP BY 1 is a positional reference and a shortcut for GROUP BY movie in this case.

string_agg() expects data type text as input. Other types need to be cast explicitly (actor::text) - unless an implicit cast to text is defined - which is the case for all other character types (varchar, character, "char"), and some other types.

As isapir commented, you can add an ORDER BY clause in the aggregate call to get a sorted list - should you need that. Like:

SELECT movie, string_agg(actor, ', ' ORDER BY actor) AS actor_list
FROM   tbl
GROUP  BY 1;

But it's typically faster to sort rows in a subquery. See:

window.location.href doesn't redirect

Some parenthesis are missing.

Change

 window.location.href = "/comments.aspx?id=" + movieShareId.textContent || movieShareId.innerText + "/";

to

 window.location = "/comments.aspx?id=" + (movieShareId.textContent || movieShareId.innerText) + "/";

No priority is given to the || compared to the +.

Remove also everything after the window.location assignation : this code isn't supposed to be executed as the page changes.

Note: you don't need to set location.href. It's enough to just set location.

Plotting power spectrum in python

You can also use scipy.signal.welch to estimate the power spectral density using Welch’s method. Here is an comparison between np.fft.fft and scipy.signal.welch:

from scipy import signal
import numpy as np

Matplotlib-Animation "No MovieWriters Available"

I know this question is about Linux, but in case someone stumbles on this problem on Mac like I did here is the solution for that. I had the exact same problem on Mac because ffmpeg is not installed by default apparently, and so I could solve it using:

brew install yasm
brew install ffmpeg

TypeError: unhashable type: 'dict'

A possible solution might be to use the JSON dumps() method, so you can convert the dictionary to a string ---

import json

a={"a":10, "b":20}
b={"b":20, "a":10}
c = [json.dumps(a), json.dumps(b)]

set(c)
json.dumps(a) in c

Output -

set(['{"a": 10, "b": 20}'])
True

set serveroutput on in oracle procedure

Actually, you need to call SET SERVEROUTPUT ON; before the BEGIN call.

Everyone suggested this but offers no advice where to actually place the line:

SET SERVEROUTPUT ON;

BEGIN
    FOR rec in (SELECT * FROM EMPLOYEES) LOOP
        DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE(rec.EmployeeName);
    ENDLOOP;
END;

Otherwise, you won't see any output.

Getting an Embedded YouTube Video to Auto Play and Loop

Here is the full list of YouTube embedded player parameters.

Relevant info:

autoplay (supported players: AS3, AS2, HTML5) Values: 0 or 1. Default is 0. Sets whether or not the initial video will autoplay when the player loads.

loop (supported players: AS3, HTML5) Values: 0 or 1. Default is 0. In the case of a single video player, a setting of 1 will cause the player to play the initial video again and again. In the case of a playlist player (or custom player), the player will play the entire playlist and then start again at the first video.

Note: This parameter has limited support in the AS3 player and in IFrame embeds, which could load either the AS3 or HTML5 player. Currently, the loop parameter only works in the AS3 player when used in conjunction with the playlist parameter. To loop a single video, set the loop parameter value to 1 and set the playlist parameter value to the same video ID already specified in the Player API URL:

http://www.youtube.com/v/VIDEO_ID?version=3&loop=1&playlist=VIDEO_ID

Use the URL above in your embed code (append other parameters too).

PHP MySQL Google Chart JSON - Complete Example

Some might encounter this error either locally or on the server:

syntax error var data = new google.visualization.DataTable(<?=$jsonTable?>);

This means that their environment does not support short tags the solution is to use this instead:

<?php echo $jsonTable; ?>

And everything should work fine!

How to show and update echo on same line

The rest of answers are pretty good, but just wanted to add some extra information in case someone comes here looking for a solution to replace/update a multiline echo.

So I would like to share an example with you all. The following script was tried on a CentOS system and uses "timedatectl" command which basically prints some detailed time information of your system.

I decided to use that command as its output contains multiple lines and works perfectly for the example below:

#!/bin/bash
while true; do
  COMMAND=$(timedatectl) #Save command result in a var.
  echo "$COMMAND" #Print command result, including new lines.

  sleep 3 #Keep above's output on screen during 3 seconds before clearing it

  #Following code clears previously printed lines
  LINES=$(echo "$COMMAND" | wc -l) #Calculate number of lines for the output previously printed
  for (( i=1; i <= $(($LINES)); i++ ));do #For each line printed as a result of "timedatectl"
    tput cuu1 #Move cursor up by one line
    tput el #Clear the line
  done

done

The above will print the result of "timedatectl" forever and will replace the previous echo with updated results.

I have to mention that this code is only an example, but maybe not the best solution for you depending on your needs. A similar command that would do almost the same (at least visually) is "watch -n 3 timedatectl".

But that's a different story. :)

Hope that helps!

When do I need a fb:app_id or fb:admins?

To use the Like Button and have the Open Graph inspect your website, you need an application.

So you need to associate the Like Button with a fb:app_id

If you want other users to see the administration page for your website on Facebook you add fb:admins. So if you are the developer of the application and the website owner there is no need to add fb:admins

DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE not printing

What is "it" in the statement "it just says the procedure is completed"?

By default, most tools do not configure a buffer for dbms_output to write to and do not attempt to read from that buffer after code executes. Most tools, on the other hand, have the ability to do so. In SQL*Plus, you'd need to use the command set serveroutput on [size N|unlimited]. So you'd do something like

SQL> set serveroutput on size 30000;
SQL> exec print_actor_quotes( <<some value>> );

In SQL Developer, you'd go to View | DBMS Output to enable the DBMS Output window, then push the green plus icon to enable DBMS Output for a particular session.

Additionally, assuming that you don't want to print the literal "a.firstNamea.lastName" for every row, you probably want

FOR row IN quote_recs
LOOP
  DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE( row.firstName || ' ' || row.lastName );
END LOOP;

JTable - Selected Row click event

Here's how I did it:

table.getSelectionModel().addListSelectionListener(new ListSelectionListener(){
        public void valueChanged(ListSelectionEvent event) {
            // do some actions here, for example
            // print first column value from selected row
            System.out.println(table.getValueAt(table.getSelectedRow(), 0).toString());
        }
    });

This code reacts on mouse click and item selection from keyboard.

Insert array into MySQL database with PHP

You have 2 ways of doing it:

  • You can create a table (or multiple tables linked together) with a field for each key of your array, and insert into each field the corresponding value of your array. This is the most common way
  • You can just have a table with one field and put in here your array serialized. I do not recommend you do do that, but it is useful if you don't want a complex database schema.

Write a file in UTF-8 using FileWriter (Java)?

In my opinion

If you wanna write follow kind UTF-8.You should create a byte array.Then,you can do such as the following: byte[] by=("<?xml version=\"1.0\" encoding=\"utf-8\"?>"+"Your string".getBytes();

Then, you can write each byte into file you created. Example:

OutputStream f=new FileOutputStream(xmlfile);
    byte[] by=("<?xml version=\"1.0\" encoding=\"utf-8\"?>"+"Your string".getBytes();
    for (int i=0;i<by.length;i++){
    byte b=by[i];
    f.write(b);

    }
    f.close();

How to prevent colliders from passing through each other?

I have a pinball prototype that also gave me much trouble in the same areas. These are all the steps I've taken to almost (but not yet entirely) solve these problems:

For fast moving objects:

  • Set the rigidbody's Interpolate to 'Interpolate' (this does not affect the actual physics simulation, but updates the rendering of the object properly - use this only on important objects from a rendering point of view, like the player, or a pinball, but not for projectiles)

  • Set Collision Detection to Continuous Dynamic

  • Attach the script DontGoThroughThings (https://www.auto.tuwien.ac.at/wordpress/?p=260) to your object. This script cleverly uses the Raycasting solution I posted in my other answer to pull back offending objects to before the collision points.

In Edit -> Project Settings -> Physics:

  • Set Min Penetration for Penalty to a very low value. I've set mine to 0.001

  • Set Solver Iteration Count to a higher value. I've set mine to 50, but you can probably do ok with much less.

All that is going to have a penalty in performace, but that's unavoidable. The defaults values are soft on performance but are not really intented for proper simulation of small and fast-moving objects.

Use a content script to access the page context variables and functions

I've also faced the problem of ordering of loaded scripts, which was solved through sequential loading of scripts. The loading is based on Rob W's answer.

function scriptFromFile(file) {
    var script = document.createElement("script");
    script.src = chrome.extension.getURL(file);
    return script;
}

function scriptFromSource(source) {
    var script = document.createElement("script");
    script.textContent = source;
    return script;
}

function inject(scripts) {
    if (scripts.length === 0)
        return;
    var otherScripts = scripts.slice(1);
    var script = scripts[0];
    var onload = function() {
        script.parentNode.removeChild(script);
        inject(otherScripts);
    };
    if (script.src != "") {
        script.onload = onload;
        document.head.appendChild(script);
    } else {
        document.head.appendChild(script);
        onload();
    }
}

The example of usage would be:

var formulaImageUrl = chrome.extension.getURL("formula.png");
var codeImageUrl = chrome.extension.getURL("code.png");

inject([
    scriptFromSource("var formulaImageUrl = '" + formulaImageUrl + "';"),
    scriptFromSource("var codeImageUrl = '" + codeImageUrl + "';"),
    scriptFromFile("EqEditor/eq_editor-lite-17.js"),
    scriptFromFile("EqEditor/eq_config.js"),
    scriptFromFile("highlight/highlight.pack.js"),
    scriptFromFile("injected.js")
]);

Actually, I'm kinda new to JS, so feel free to ping me to the better ways.

Mongod complains that there is no /data/db folder

You're trying to create a directory you don't have root access to.

For testing mongodb, I just use a directory from my user directory like:

cd
mkdir -p temp/
mongod --dbpath .

This will make a mongo database in temp/ from your current working directory

String Pattern Matching In Java

You can do it using string.indexOf("{item}"). If the result is greater than -1 {item} is in the string

Strange Characters in database text: Ã, Ã, ¢, â‚ €,

This appears to be a UTF-8 encoding issue that may have been caused by a double-UTF8-encoding of the database file contents.

This situation could happen due to factors such as the character set that was or was not selected (for instance when a database backup file was created) and the file format and encoding database file was saved with.

I have seen these strange UTF-8 characters in the following scenario (the description may not be entirely accurate as I no longer have access to the database in question):

  • As I recall, there the database and tables had a "uft8_general_ci" collation.
  • Backup is made of the database.
  • Backup file is opened on Windows in UNIX file format and with ANSI encoding.
  • Database is restored on a new MySQL server by copy-pasting the contents from the database backup file into phpMyAdmin.

Looking into the file contents:

  • Opening the SQL backup file in a text editor shows that the SQL backup file has strange characters such as "sÃ¥". On a side note, you may get different results if opening the same file in another editor. I use TextPad here but opening the same file in SublimeText said "sÃ¥" because SublimeText correctly UTF8-encoded the file -- still, this is a bit confusing when you start trying to fix the issue in PHP because you don't see the right data in SublimeText at first. Anyways, that can be resolved by taking note of which encoding your text editor is using when presenting the file contents.
  • The strange characters are double-encoded UTF-8 characters, so in my case the first "Ã" part equals "Ã" and "Â¥" = "¥" (this is my first "encoding"). THe "Ã¥" characters equals the UTF-8 character for "å" (this is my second encoding).

So, the issue is that "false" (UTF8-encoded twice) utf-8 needs to be converted back into "correct" utf-8 (only UTF8-encoded once).

Trying to fix this in PHP turns out to be a bit challenging:

utf8_decode() is not able to process the characters.

// Fails silently (as in - nothing is output)
$str = "så";

$str = utf8_decode($str);
printf("\n%s", $str);

$str = utf8_decode($str);
printf("\n%s", $str);

iconv() fails with "Notice: iconv(): Detected an illegal character in input string".

echo iconv("UTF-8", "ISO-8859-1", "så");

Another fine and possible solution fails silently too in this scenario

$str = "så";
echo html_entity_decode(htmlentities($str, ENT_QUOTES, 'UTF-8'), ENT_QUOTES , 'ISO-8859-15');

mb_convert_encoding() silently: #

$str = "så";
echo mb_convert_encoding($str, 'ISO-8859-15', 'UTF-8');
// (No output)

Trying to fix the encoding in MySQL by converting the MySQL database characterset and collation to UTF-8 was unsuccessfully:

ALTER DATABASE myDatabase CHARACTER SET utf8 COLLATE utf8_unicode_ci;
ALTER TABLE myTable CONVERT TO CHARACTER SET utf8 COLLATE utf8_unicode_ci;

I see a couple of ways to resolve this issue.

The first is to make a backup with correct encoding (the encoding needs to match the actual database and table encoding). You can verify the encoding by simply opening the resulting SQL file in a text editor.

The other is to replace double-UTF8-encoded characters with single-UTF8-encoded characters. This can be done manually in a text editor. To assist in this process, you can manually pick incorrect characters from Try UTF-8 Encoding Debugging Chart (it may be a matter of replacing 5-10 errors).

Finally, a script can assist in the process:

    $str = "så";
    // The two arrays can also be generated by double-encoding values in the first array and single-encoding values in the second array.
    $str = str_replace(["Ã","Â¥"], ["Ã","¥"], $str);
    $str = utf8_decode($str);
    echo $str;
    // Output: "så" (correct)

Leverage browser caching, how on apache or .htaccess?

First we need to check if we have enabled mod_headers.c and mod_expires.c.

sudo apache2 -l

If we don't have it, we need to enable them

sudo a2enmod headers

Then we need to restart apache

sudo apache2 restart

At last, add the rules on .htaccess (seen on other answers), for example

How to completely hide the navigation bar in iPhone / HTML5

Remy Sharp has a good description of the process in his article "Doing it right: skipping the iPhone url bar":

Making the iPhone hide the url bar is fairly simple, you need run the following JavaScript:

window.scrollTo(0, 1);

However there's the question of when? You have to do this once the height is correct so that the iPhone can scroll to the first pixel of the document, otherwise it will try, then the height will load forcing the url bar back in to view.

You could wait until the images have loaded and the window.onload event fires, but this doesn't always work, if everything is cached, the event fires too early and the scrollTo never has a chance to jump. Here's an example using window.onload: http://jsbin.com/edifu4/4/

I personally use a timer for 1 second - which is enough time on a mobile device while you wait to render, but long enough that it doesn't fire too early:

setTimeout(function () {   window.scrollTo(0, 1); }, 1000);

However, you only want this to setup if it's an iPhone (or just mobile) browser, so a sneaky sniff (I don't generally encourage this, but I'm comfortable with this to prevent "normal" desktop browsers from jumping one pixel):

/mobile/i.test(navigator.userAgent) && setTimeout(function
() {   window.scrollTo(0, 1); }, 1000);

The very last part of this, and this is the part that seems to be missing from some examples I've seen around the web is this: if the user specifically linked to a url fragment, i.e. the url has a hash on it, you don't want to jump. So if I navigate to http://full-frontal.org/tickets#dayconf - I want the browser to scroll naturally to the element whose id is dayconf, and not jump to the top using scrollTo(0, 1):

/mobile/i.test(navigator.userAgent) && !location.hash &&
setTimeout(function () {   window.scrollTo(0, 1); }, 1000);?

Try this out on an iPhone (or simulator) http://jsbin.com/edifu4/10 and you'll see it will only scroll when you've landed on the page without a url fragment.

HTML5 live streaming

You can use a fantastic library name Videojs. You will find more useful informations here. But with quick start you can do something like this:

changing source on html5 video tag

According to the spec

Dynamically modifying a source element and its attribute when the element is already inserted in a video or audio element will have no effect. To change what is playing, just use the src attribute on the media element directly, possibly making use of the canPlayType() method to pick from amongst available resources. Generally, manipulating source elements manually after the document has been parsed is an unncessarily complicated approach.

So what you are trying to do is apparently not supposed to work.

Date itself is comparable, so, using generics:

class MovieComparator implements Comparator<Movie> {
    public int compare(Movie m1, Movie m2) {
       //possibly check for nulls to avoid NullPointerException
       return m1.getDate().compareTo(m2.getDate());
    }
}

And do not instantiate the comparator on each sort. Use:

private static final MovieComparator comparator = new MovieComparator();

Play/pause HTML 5 video using JQuery

You can do

$('video').trigger('play');
$('video').trigger('pause');

Rails: How to run `rails generate scaffold` when the model already exists?

For the ones starting a rails app with existing database there is a cool gem called schema_to_scaffold to generate a scaffold script. it outputs:

rails g scaffold users fname:string lname:string bdate:date email:string encrypted_password:string

from your schema.rb our your renamed schema.rb. Check it

Passing parameters on button action:@selector

I have another solution in some cases.

store your parameter in a hidden UILabel. then add this UILabel as subview of UIButton.

when button is clicked, we can have a check on UIButton's all subviews. normally only 2 UILabel in it.

one is UIButton's title, the other is the one you just added. read that UILabel's text property, you will get the parameter.

This only apply for text parameter.

Transfer data between databases with PostgreSQL

I just had to do this exact thing so I figured I'd post the recipe here. This assumes that both databases are on the same server.

First, copy the table from the old db to the new db (because apparently you can't move data between databases). At the commandline:

pg_dump -U postgres -t <old_table> <old_database> | psql -U postgres -d <new_database>

# Just adding extra space here so scrollbar doesn't hide the command

Next, grant permissions of the copied table to the user of the new database. Log into psql:

psql -U postgres -d <new_database>

ALTER TABLE <old_table> OWNER TO <new_user>;

\q

Finally, copy data from the old table to the new table. Log in as the new user and then:

INSERT INTO <new_table> (field1, field2, field3)
SELECT field1, field2, field3 from <old_table>;

Done!

C++ Vector of pointers

By dynamically allocating a Movie object with new Movie(), you get a pointer to the new object. You do not need a second vector for the movies, just store the pointers and you can access them. Like Brian wrote, the vector would be defined as

std::vector<Movie *> movies

But be aware that the vector will not delete your objects afterwards, which will result in a memory leak. It probably doesn't matter for your homework, but normally you should delete all pointers when you don't need them anymore.

Date object to Calendar [Java]

tl;dr

Instant stop =
    myUtilDateStart.toInstant()
                   .plus( Duration.ofMinutes( x ) )
;

java.time

Other Answers are correct, especially the Answer by Borgwardt. But those Answers use outmoded legacy classes.

The original date-time classes bundled with Java have been supplanted with java.time classes. Perform your business logic in java.time types. Convert to the old types only where needed to work with old code not yet updated to handle java.time types.

If your Calendar is actually a GregorianCalendar you can convert to a ZonedDateTime. Find new methods added to the old classes to facilitate conversion to/from java.time types.

if( myUtilCalendar instanceof GregorianCalendar ) {
    GregorianCalendar gregCal = (GregorianCalendar) myUtilCalendar; // Downcasting from the interface to the concrete class.
    ZonedDateTime zdt = gregCal.toZonedDateTime(); // Create `ZonedDateTime` with same time zone info found in the `GregorianCalendar`
end if

If your Calendar is not a Gregorian, call toInstant to get an Instant object. The Instant class represents a moment on the timeline in UTC with a resolution of nanoseconds.

Instant instant = myCal.toInstant();

Similarly, if starting with a java.util.Date object, convert to an Instant. The Instant class represents a moment on the timeline in UTC with a resolution of nanoseconds (up to nine (9) digits of a decimal fraction).

Instant instant = myUtilDate.toInstant();

Apply a time zone to get a ZonedDateTime.

ZoneId z = ZoneId.of( "America/Montreal" );
ZonedDateTime zdt = instant.atZone( z );

To get a java.util.Date object, go through the Instant.

java.util.Date utilDate = java.util.Date.from( zdt.toInstant() );

For more discussion of converting between the legacy date-time types and java.time, and a nifty diagram, see my Answer to another Question.

Duration

Represent the span of time as a Duration object. Your input for the duration is a number of minutes as mentioned in the Question.

Duration d = Duration.ofMinutes( yourMinutesGoHere );

You can add that to the start to determine the stop.

Instant stop = startInstant.plus( d );

About java.time

The java.time framework is built into Java 8 and later. These classes supplant the troublesome old legacy date-time classes such as java.util.Date, Calendar, & SimpleDateFormat.

The Joda-Time project, now in maintenance mode, advises migration to java.time.

To learn more, see the Oracle Tutorial. And search Stack Overflow for many examples and explanations. Specification is JSR 310.

Where to obtain the java.time classes?

  • Java SE 8 and SE 9 and later
    • Built-in.
    • Part of the standard Java API with a bundled implementation.
    • Java 9 adds some minor features and fixes.
  • Java SE 6 and SE 7
    • Much of the java.time functionality is back-ported to Java 6 & 7 in ThreeTen-Backport.
  • Android

The ThreeTen-Extra project extends java.time with additional classes. This project is a proving ground for possible future additions to java.time. You may find some useful classes here such as Interval, YearWeek, YearQuarter, and more.

HTML5 video (mp4 and ogv) problems in Safari and Firefox - but Chrome is all good

Incidentally, .ogv files are video, so "video/ogg", .ogg files are Vorbis audio, so "audio/ogg" and .oga files are general Ogg audio, so also "audio/ogg". Checked in Firefox and work. "application/ogg" is deprecated for all audio or video uses. See http://www.rfc-editor.org/rfc/rfc5334.txt

Using FFmpeg in .net?

A solution that is viable for both Linux and Windows is to just get used to using console ffmpeg in your code. I stack up threads, write a simple thread controller class, then you can easily make use of what ever functionality of ffmpeg you want to use.

As an example, this contains sections use ffmpeg to create a thumbnail from a time that I specify.

In the thread controller you have something like

List<ThrdFfmpeg> threads = new List<ThrdFfmpeg>();

Which is the list of threads that you are running, I make use of a timer to Pole these threads, you can also set up an event if Pole'ing is not suitable for your application. In this case thw class Thrdffmpeg contains,

public class ThrdFfmpeg
{
    public FfmpegStuff ffm { get; set; }
    public Thread thrd { get; set; }
}

FFmpegStuff contains the various ffmpeg functionality, thrd is obviously the thread.

A property in FfmpegStuff is the class FilesToProcess, which is used to pass information to the called process, and receive information once the thread has stopped.

public class FileToProcess
{
    public int videoID { get; set; }
    public string fname { get; set; }
    public int durationSeconds { get; set; }
    public List<string> imgFiles { get; set; }
}

VideoID (I use a database) tells the threaded process which video to use taken from the database. fname is used in other parts of my functions that use FilesToProcess, but not used here. durationSeconds - is filled in by the threads that just collect video duration. imgFiles is used to return any thumbnails that were created.

I do not want to get bogged down in my code when the purpose of this is to encourage the use of ffmpeg in easily controlled threads.

Now we have our pieces we can add to our threads list, so in our controller we do something like,

        AddThread()
        {
        ThrdFfmpeg thrd;
        FileToProcess ftp;

        foreach(FileToProcess ff in  `dbhelper.GetFileNames(txtCategory.Text))`
        {
            //make a thread for each
            ftp = new FileToProcess();
            ftp = ff;
            ftp.imgFiles = new List<string>();
            thrd = new ThrdFfmpeg();
            thrd.ffm = new FfmpegStuff();
            thrd.ffm.filetoprocess = ftp;
            thrd.thrd = new   `System.Threading.Thread(thrd.ffm.CollectVideoLength);`

         threads.Add(thrd);
        }
        if(timerNotStarted)
             StartThreadTimer();
        }

Now Pole'ing our threads becomes a simple task,

private void timerThreads_Tick(object sender, EventArgs e)
    {
        int runningCount = 0;
        int finishedThreads = 0;
        foreach(ThrdFfmpeg thrd in threads)
        {
            switch (thrd.thrd.ThreadState)
            {
                case System.Threading.ThreadState.Running:
                    ++runningCount;

 //Note that you can still view data progress here,
    //but remember that you must use your safety checks
    //here more than anywhere else in your code, make sure the data
    //is readable and of the right sort, before you read it.
                    break;
                case System.Threading.ThreadState.StopRequested:
                    break;
                case System.Threading.ThreadState.SuspendRequested:
                    break;
                case System.Threading.ThreadState.Background:
                    break;
                case System.Threading.ThreadState.Unstarted:

//Any threads that have been added but not yet started, start now
                    thrd.thrd.Start();
                    ++runningCount;
                    break;
                case System.Threading.ThreadState.Stopped:
                    ++finishedThreads;

//You can now safely read the results, in this case the
   //data contained in FilesToProcess
   //Such as
                    ThumbnailsReadyEvent( thrd.ffm );
                    break;
                case System.Threading.ThreadState.WaitSleepJoin:
                    break;
                case System.Threading.ThreadState.Suspended:
                    break;
                case System.Threading.ThreadState.AbortRequested:
                    break;
                case System.Threading.ThreadState.Aborted:
                    break;
                default:
                    break;
            }
        }

        if(flash)
        {//just a simple indicator so that I can see
         //that at least one thread is still running
            lbThreadStatus.BackColor = Color.White;
            flash = false;
        }
        else
        {
            lbThreadStatus.BackColor = this.BackColor;
            flash = true;
        }
        if(finishedThreads >= threads.Count())
        {

            StopThreadTimer();
            ShowSample();
            MakeJoinedThumb();
        }
    }

Putting your own events onto into the controller class works well, but in video work, when my own code is not actually doing any of the video file processing, poling then invoking an event in the controlling class works just as well.

Using this method I have slowly built up just about every video and stills function I think I will ever use, all contained in the one class, and that class as a text file is useable on the Lunux and Windows version, with just a small number of pre-process directives.

Can I do a max(count(*)) in SQL?

Thanks to the last answer

SELECT yr, COUNT(title)
FROM actor
JOIN casting ON actor.id = casting.actorid
JOIN movie ON casting.movieid = movie.id
WHERE name = 'John Travolta'
GROUP BY yr HAVING COUNT(title) >= ALL
  (SELECT COUNT(title)
   FROM actor
   JOIN casting ON actor.id = casting.actorid
   JOIN movie ON casting.movieid = movie.id
   WHERE name = 'John Travolta'
   GROUP BY yr)

I had the same problem: I needed to know just the records which their count match the maximus count (it could be one or several records).

I have to learn more about "ALL clause", and this is exactly the kind of simple solution that I was looking for.

How do I embed a mp4 movie into my html?

Flash CS4 refuses to let go

Try deleting your ASO files.

ASO files are cached compiled versions of your class files. Although the IDE is a lot better at letting go of old caches when changes are made, sometimes you have to manually delete them. To delete ASO files: Control>Delete ASO Files.

This is also the cause of the "I-am-not-seeing-my-changes-so-let-me-add-a-trace-now-everything-works" bug that was introduced in CS3.

Difference between string and char[] types in C++

I personally do not see any reason why one would like to use char* or char[] except for compatibility with old code. std::string's no slower than using a c-string, except that it will handle re-allocation for you. You can set it's size when you create it, and thus avoid re-allocation if you want. It's indexing operator ([]) provides constant time access (and is in every sense of the word the exact same thing as using a c-string indexer). Using the at method gives you bounds checked safety as well, something you don't get with c-strings, unless you write it. Your compiler will most often optimize out the indexer use in release mode. It is easy to mess around with c-strings; things such as delete vs delete[], exception safety, even how to reallocate a c-string.

And when you have to deal with advanced concepts like having COW strings, and non-COW for MT etc, you will need std::string.

If you are worried about copies, as long as you use references, and const references wherever you can, you will not have any overhead due to copies, and it's the same thing as you would be doing with the c-string.

How do I change db schema to dbo

I just posted this to a similar question: In sql server 2005, how do I change the "schema" of a table without losing any data?

A slight improvement to sAeid's excellent answer...

I added an exec to have this code self-execute, and I added a union at the top so that I could change the schema of both tables AND stored procedures:

DECLARE cursore CURSOR FOR

select specific_schema as 'schema', specific_name AS 'name'
FROM INFORMATION_SCHEMA.routines
WHERE specific_schema <> 'dbo'

UNION ALL

SELECT TABLE_SCHEMA AS 'schema', TABLE_NAME AS 'name'
FROM INFORMATION_SCHEMA.TABLES
WHERE TABLE_SCHEMA <> 'dbo'

DECLARE @schema sysname,
 @tab sysname,
 @sql varchar(500)

OPEN cursore
FETCH NEXT FROM cursore INTO @schema, @tab

WHILE @@FETCH_STATUS = 0
BEGIN
 SET @sql = 'ALTER SCHEMA dbo TRANSFER [' + @schema + '].[' + @tab +']'
 PRINT @sql
 exec (@sql)
 FETCH NEXT FROM cursore INTO @schema, @tab
END

CLOSE cursore
DEALLOCATE cursore

I too had to restore a dbdump, and found that the schema wasn't dbo - I spent hours trying to get Sql Server management studio or visual studio data transfers to alter the destination schema... I ended up just running this against the restored dump on the new server to get things the way I wanted.

How to add link to flash banner

If you have a flash FLA file that shows the FLV movie you can add a button inside the FLA file. This button can be given an action to load the URL.

on (release) {
  getURL("http://someurl/");
}

To make the button transparent you can place a square inside it that is moved to the hit-area frame of the button.

I think it would go too far to explain into depth with pictures how to go about in stackoverflow.

How to make an embedded video not autoplay

A couple of wires are crossed here. The various autoplay settings that you're working with only affect whether the SWF's root timeline starts out paused or not. So if your SWF had a timeline animation, or if it had an embedded video on the root timeline, then these settings would do what you're after.

However, the SWF you're working with almost certainly has only one frame on its timeline, so these settings won't affect playback at all. That one frame contains some flavor of video playback component, which contains ActionScript that controls how the video behaves. To get that player component to start of paused, you'll have to change the settings of the component itself.

Without knowing more about where the content came from it's hard to say more, but when one publishes from Flash, video player components normally include a parameter for whether to autoplay. If your SWF is being published by an application other than Flash (Captivate, I suppose, but I'm not up on that) then your best bet would be to check the settings for that app. Anyway it's not something you can control from the level of the HTML page. (Unless you were talking to the SWF from JavaScript, and for that to work the video component would have to be designed to allow it.)

How do you create a dropdownlist from an enum in ASP.NET MVC?

I know I'm late to the party on this, but thought you might find this variant useful, as this one also allows you to use descriptive strings rather than enumeration constants in the drop down. To do this, decorate each enumeration entry with a [System.ComponentModel.Description] attribute.

For example:

public enum TestEnum
{
  [Description("Full test")]
  FullTest,

  [Description("Incomplete or partial test")]
  PartialTest,

  [Description("No test performed")]
  None
}

Here is my code:

using System;
using System.Collections.Generic;
using System.Linq;
using System.Web.Mvc;
using System.Web.Mvc.Html;
using System.Reflection;
using System.ComponentModel;
using System.Linq.Expressions;

 ...

 private static Type GetNonNullableModelType(ModelMetadata modelMetadata)
    {
        Type realModelType = modelMetadata.ModelType;

        Type underlyingType = Nullable.GetUnderlyingType(realModelType);
        if (underlyingType != null)
        {
            realModelType = underlyingType;
        }
        return realModelType;
    }

    private static readonly SelectListItem[] SingleEmptyItem = new[] { new SelectListItem { Text = "", Value = "" } };

    public static string GetEnumDescription<TEnum>(TEnum value)
    {
        FieldInfo fi = value.GetType().GetField(value.ToString());

        DescriptionAttribute[] attributes = (DescriptionAttribute[])fi.GetCustomAttributes(typeof(DescriptionAttribute), false);

        if ((attributes != null) && (attributes.Length > 0))
            return attributes[0].Description;
        else
            return value.ToString();
    }

    public static MvcHtmlString EnumDropDownListFor<TModel, TEnum>(this HtmlHelper<TModel> htmlHelper, Expression<Func<TModel, TEnum>> expression)
    {
        return EnumDropDownListFor(htmlHelper, expression, null);
    }

    public static MvcHtmlString EnumDropDownListFor<TModel, TEnum>(this HtmlHelper<TModel> htmlHelper, Expression<Func<TModel, TEnum>> expression, object htmlAttributes)
    {
        ModelMetadata metadata = ModelMetadata.FromLambdaExpression(expression, htmlHelper.ViewData);
        Type enumType = GetNonNullableModelType(metadata);
        IEnumerable<TEnum> values = Enum.GetValues(enumType).Cast<TEnum>();

        IEnumerable<SelectListItem> items = from value in values
            select new SelectListItem
            {
                Text = GetEnumDescription(value),
                Value = value.ToString(),
                Selected = value.Equals(metadata.Model)
            };

        // If the enum is nullable, add an 'empty' item to the collection
        if (metadata.IsNullableValueType)
            items = SingleEmptyItem.Concat(items);

        return htmlHelper.DropDownListFor(expression, items, htmlAttributes);
    }

You can then do this in your view:

@Html.EnumDropDownListFor(model => model.MyEnumProperty)

Hope this helps you!

**EDIT 2014-JAN-23: Microsoft have just released MVC 5.1, which now has an EnumDropDownListFor feature. Sadly it does not appear to respect the [Description] attribute so the code above still stands.See Enum section in Microsoft's release notes for MVC 5.1.

Update: It does support the Display attribute [Display(Name = "Sample")] though, so one can use that.

[Update - just noticed this, and the code looks like an extended version of the code here: https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/stuartleeks/2010/05/21/asp-net-mvc-creating-a-dropdownlist-helper-for-enums/, with a couple of additions. If so, attribution would seem fair ;-)]

How do HashTables deal with collisions?

As there is some confusion about which algorithm Java's HashMap is using (in the Sun/Oracle/OpenJDK implementation), here the relevant source code snippets (from OpenJDK, 1.6.0_20, on Ubuntu):

/**
 * Returns the entry associated with the specified key in the
 * HashMap. Returns null if the HashMap contains no mapping
 * for the key.
 */
final Entry<K,V> getEntry(Object key) {
    int hash = (key == null) ? 0 : hash(key.hashCode());
    for (Entry<K,V> e = table[indexFor(hash, table.length)];
         e != null;
         e = e.next) {
        Object k;
        if (e.hash == hash &&
            ((k = e.key) == key || (key != null && key.equals(k))))
            return e;
    }
    return null;
}

This method (cite is from lines 355 to 371) is called when looking up an entry in the table, for example from get(), containsKey() and some others. The for loop here goes through the linked list formed by the entry objects.

Here the code for the entry objects (lines 691-705 + 759):

static class Entry<K,V> implements Map.Entry<K,V> {
    final K key;
    V value;
    Entry<K,V> next;
    final int hash;

    /**
     * Creates new entry.
     */
    Entry(int h, K k, V v, Entry<K,V> n) {
        value = v;
        next = n;
        key = k;
        hash = h;
    }

  // (methods left away, they are straight-forward implementations of Map.Entry)

}

Right after this comes the addEntry() method:

/**
 * Adds a new entry with the specified key, value and hash code to
 * the specified bucket. It is the responsibility of this
 * method to resize the table if appropriate.
 *
 * Subclass overrides this to alter the behavior of put method.
 */
void addEntry(int hash, K key, V value, int bucketIndex) {
    Entry<K,V> e = table[bucketIndex];
    table[bucketIndex] = new Entry<K,V>(hash, key, value, e);
    if (size++ >= threshold)
        resize(2 * table.length);
}

This adds the new Entry on the front of the bucket, with a link to the old first entry (or null, if no such one). Similarily, the removeEntryForKey() method goes through the list and takes care of deleting only one entry, letting the rest of the list intact.

So, here is a linked entry list for each bucket, and I very doubt that this changed from _20 to _22, since it was like this from 1.2 on.

(This code is (c) 1997-2007 Sun Microsystems, and available under GPL, but for copying better use the original file, contained in src.zip in each JDK from Sun/Oracle, and also in OpenJDK.)

Using margin:auto to vertically-align a div

Update Aug 2020

Although the below is still worth reading for the useful info, we have had Flexbox for some time now, so just use that, as per this answer.

You can't use:

vertical-align:middle because it's not applicable to block-level elements

margin-top:auto and margin-bottom:auto because their used values would compute as zero

margin-top:-50% because percentage-based margin values are calculated relative to the width of containing block

In fact, the nature of document flow and element height calculation algorithms make it impossible to use margins for centering an element vertically inside its parent. Whenever a vertical margin's value is changed, it will trigger a parent element height re-calculation (re-flow), which would in turn trigger a re-center of the original element... making it an infinite loop.

You can use:

A few workarounds like this which work for your scenario; the three elements have to be nested like so:

_x000D_
_x000D_
.container {
    display: table;
    height: 100%;
    position: absolute;
    overflow: hidden;
    width: 100%;
}
.helper {
    #position: absolute;
    #top: 50%;
    display: table-cell;
    vertical-align: middle;
}
.content {
    #position: relative;
    #top: -50%;
    margin: 0 auto;
    width: 200px;
    border: 1px solid orange;
}
_x000D_
<div class="container">
    <div class="helper">
        <div class="content">
            <p>stuff</p>
        </div>
    </div>
</div
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

JSFiddle works fine according to Browsershot.

Lining up labels with radio buttons in bootstrap

This may work for you, Please try this.

<form>
  <div class="form-inline">
    <div class="controls-row">
      <label class="control-label">Some label</label>
      <label class="radio inline">
        <input type="radio" value="1" />First
      </label>
      <label class="radio inline">
        <input type="radio" value="2" />Second
      </label>
    </div>
  </div>

How do I escape reserved words used as column names? MySQL/Create Table

You can use double quotes if ANSI SQL mode is enabled

CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS misc_info
  (
     id INTEGER PRIMARY KEY AUTO_INCREMENT NOT NULL,
     "key" TEXT UNIQUE NOT NULL,
     value TEXT NOT NULL
  )
ENGINE=INNODB;

or the proprietary back tick escaping otherwise. (Where to find the ` character on various keyboard layouts is covered in this answer)

CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS misc_info
  (
     id INTEGER PRIMARY KEY AUTO_INCREMENT NOT NULL,
     `key` TEXT UNIQUE NOT NULL,
     value TEXT NOT NULL
  )
ENGINE=INNODB;

Chrome / Safari not filling 100% height of flex parent

Specifying a flex attribute to the container worked for me:

.container {
    flex: 0 0 auto;
}

This ensures the height is set and doesn't grow either.

undefined reference to boost::system::system_category() when compiling

The boost library you are using depends on the boost_system library. (Not all of them do.)

Assuming you use gcc, try adding -lboost_system to your compiler command line in order to link against that library.

How to find a min/max with Ruby

You can do

[5, 10].min

or

[4, 7].max

They come from the Enumerable module, so anything that includes Enumerable will have those methods available.

v2.4 introduces own Array#min and Array#max, which are way faster than Enumerable's methods because they skip calling #each.

@nicholasklick mentions another option, Enumerable#minmax, but this time returning an array of [min, max].

[4, 5, 7, 10].minmax
=> [4, 10]

Convert Mercurial project to Git

You can try using fast-export:

cd ~
git clone https://github.com/frej/fast-export.git
git init git_repo
cd git_repo
~/fast-export/hg-fast-export.sh -r /path/to/old/mercurial_repo
git checkout HEAD

Also have a look at this SO question.

If you're using Mercurial version below 4.6, adrihanu got your back:

As he stated in his comment: "In case you use Mercurial < 4.6 and you got "revsymbol not found" error. You need to update your Mercurial or downgrade fast-export by running git checkout tags/v180317 inside ~/fast-export directory.".

How to resolve ambiguous column names when retrieving results?

You can do something like

SELECT news.id as news_id, user.id as user_id ....

And then $row['news_id'] will be the news id and $row['user_id'] will be the user id

Getting DOM element value using pure JavaScript

Yes, most notably! I don't think the second one will work (and if it does, not very portably). The first one should be OK.

// HTML:
<input id="theId" value="test" onclick="doSomething(this)" />

// JavaScript:
function(elem){
    var value = elem.value;
    var id    = elem.id;
    ...
}

This should also work.

Update: the question was edited. Both of the solutions are now equivalent.

Pip install - Python 2.7 - Windows 7

you have to first download the get-pip.py and then run the command :

Applying function with multiple arguments to create a new pandas column

Alternatively, you can use numpy underlying function:

>>> import numpy as np
>>> df = pd.DataFrame({"A": [10,20,30], "B": [20, 30, 10]})
>>> df['new_column'] = np.multiply(df['A'], df['B'])
>>> df
    A   B  new_column
0  10  20         200
1  20  30         600
2  30  10         300

or vectorize arbitrary function in general case:

>>> def fx(x, y):
...     return x*y
...
>>> df['new_column'] = np.vectorize(fx)(df['A'], df['B'])
>>> df
    A   B  new_column
0  10  20         200
1  20  30         600
2  30  10         300

Android set height and width of Custom view programmatically

This is a Kotlin based version, assuming that the parent view is an instance of LinearLayout.

someView.layoutParams = LinearLayout.LayoutParams(100, 200)

This allows to set the width and height (100 and 200) in a single line.

How to parse a CSV file in Bash?

You need to use IFS instead of -d:

while IFS=, read -r col1 col2
do
    echo "I got:$col1|$col2"
done < myfile.csv

Note that for general purpose CSV parsing you should use a specialized tool which can handle quoted fields with internal commas, among other issues that Bash can't handle by itself. Examples of such tools are cvstool and csvkit.

Does Java have an exponential operator?

you can use the pow method from the Math class. The following code will output 2 raised to 3 (8)

System.out.println(Math.pow(2, 3));

window.open with headers

If you are in control of server side, it might be possible to set header value in query string and send it like that? That way you could parse it from query string if it's not found in the headers.

Just an idea... And you asked for a cunning hack :)

Referencing a string in a string array resource with xml

In short: I don't think you can, but there seems to be a workaround:.

If you take a look into the Android Resource here:

http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/resources/string-resource.html

You see than under the array section (string array, at least), the "RESOURCE REFERENCE" (as you get from an XML) does not specify a way to address the individual items. You can even try in your XML to use "@array/yourarrayhere". I know that in design time you will get the first item. But that is of no practical use if you want to use, let's say... the second, of course.

HOWEVER, there is a trick you can do. See here:

Referencing an XML string in an XML Array (Android)

You can "cheat" (not really) the array definition by addressing independent strings INSIDE the definition of the array. For example, in your strings.xml:

<string name="earth">Earth</string>
<string name="moon">Moon</string>

<string-array name="system">
    <item>@string/earth</item>
    <item>@string/moon</item>
</string-array>

By using this, you can use "@string/earth" and "@string/moon" normally in your "android:text" and "android:title" XML fields, and yet you won't lose the ability to use the array definition for whatever purposes you intended in the first place.

Seems to work here on my Eclipse. Why don't you try and tell us if it works? :-)

Eclipse - debugger doesn't stop at breakpoint

In my case I had multiple projects in same workspace. The java file I was trying to debug was present in more than one projects with same package.

I didn't need the other project, so simply closed unrelated projects (or remove the file from unrelated project).

Unable to install Android Studio in Ubuntu

The Problem is caused by mksdcard not being installed correctly.

if you are running 64 bit, do this to fix the mksdcard problem.

    sudo dpkg --add-architecture amd64
    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get install libncurses5:amd64 libstdc++6:amd64 zlib1g:amd64

and 32 bit:

    sudo dpkg --add-architecture i386
    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get install libncurses5:i386 libstdc++6:i386 zlib1g:i386

In SDK 6.0, the error message is different but means the same thing.

How can I bring my application window to the front?

I use SwitchToThisWindow to bring the application to the forefront as in this example:

static class Program
{
    [DllImport("User32.dll", SetLastError = true)]
    static extern void SwitchToThisWindow(IntPtr hWnd, bool fAltTab);

    /// <summary>
    /// The main entry point for the application.
    /// </summary>
    [STAThread]
    static void Main()
    {
        bool createdNew;
        int iP;
        Process currentProcess = Process.GetCurrentProcess();
        Mutex m = new Mutex(true, "XYZ", out createdNew);
        if (!createdNew)
        {
            // app is already running...
            Process[] proc = Process.GetProcessesByName("XYZ");

            // switch to other process
            for (iP = 0; iP < proc.Length; iP++)
            {
                if (proc[iP].Id != currentProcess.Id)
                    SwitchToThisWindow(proc[0].MainWindowHandle, true);
            }

            return;
        }

        Application.EnableVisualStyles();
        Application.SetCompatibleTextRenderingDefault(false);
        Application.Run(new form());
        GC.KeepAlive(m);

How to create a Custom Dialog box in android?

Here I have created a simple Dialog, like:

Dialog Box

custom_dialog.xml

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
    android:layout_width="fill_parent"
    android:layout_height="80dp"
    android:background="#3E80B4"
    android:orientation="vertical" >

    <TextView
        android:id="@+id/txt_dia"
        android:layout_width="wrap_content"
        android:layout_height="wrap_content"
        android:layout_gravity="center"
        android:layout_margin="10dp"
        android:text="Do you realy want to exit ?"
        android:textColor="@android:color/white"
        android:textSize="15dp"
        android:textStyle="bold"/>

    <LinearLayout
        android:layout_width="wrap_content"
        android:layout_height="wrap_content"
        android:layout_gravity="center"
        android:background="#3E80B4"
        android:orientation="horizontal" >

        <Button
            android:id="@+id/btn_yes"
            android:layout_width="100dp"
            android:layout_height="30dp"
            android:background="@android:color/white"
            android:clickable="true"
            android:text="Yes"
            android:textColor="#5DBCD2"
            android:textStyle="bold" />

        <Button
            android:id="@+id/btn_no"
            android:layout_width="100dp"
            android:layout_height="30dp"
            android:layout_marginLeft="5dp"
            android:background="@android:color/white"
            android:clickable="true"
            android:text="No"
            android:textColor="#5DBCD2"
            android:textStyle="bold" />
    </LinearLayout>

</LinearLayout>

You have to extends Dialog and implements OnClickListener

public class CustomDialogClass extends Dialog implements
    android.view.View.OnClickListener {

  public Activity c;
  public Dialog d;
  public Button yes, no;

  public CustomDialogClass(Activity a) {
    super(a);
    // TODO Auto-generated constructor stub
    this.c = a;
  }

  @Override
  protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
    super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
    requestWindowFeature(Window.FEATURE_NO_TITLE);
    setContentView(R.layout.custom_dialog);
    yes = (Button) findViewById(R.id.btn_yes);
    no = (Button) findViewById(R.id.btn_no);
    yes.setOnClickListener(this);
    no.setOnClickListener(this);

  }

  @Override
  public void onClick(View v) {
    switch (v.getId()) {
    case R.id.btn_yes:
      c.finish();
      break;
    case R.id.btn_no:
      dismiss();
      break;
    default:
      break;
    }
    dismiss();
  }
}

How to Call Dialog ?

R.id.TXT_Exit:
CustomDialogClass cdd=new CustomDialogClass(Values.this);
cdd.show();

Updates

After a long time one of my friends asked me to make a curved shape dialog with a transparent background. So, Here I have implemented it.

enter image description here

To Make a curved shape you need to create a separate curve_shap.XML as below,

<shape xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" >

    <solid android:color="#000000" />

    <stroke
        android:width="2dp"
        android:color="#ffffff" />

    <corners
        android:bottomLeftRadius="20dp"
        android:bottomRightRadius="20dp"
        android:topLeftRadius="20dp"
        android:topRightRadius="20dp" />

</shape>

Now, add this curve_shap.XML in your main view Layout. In my case I have used LinearLayout

<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
        android:layout_width="fill_parent"
        android:layout_height="80dp"
        android:background="@drawable/curve_shap"
        android:orientation="vertical" >
...
</LinearLayout>

How to call this ?

CustomDialogClass cdd = new CustomDialogClass(MainActivity.this);
cdd.getWindow().setBackgroundDrawable(new ColorDrawable(Color.TRANSPARENT));
cdd.show();

I hope that works for you.

How to retrieve field names from temporary table (SQL Server 2008)

select *
from tempdb.INFORMATION_SCHEMA.COLUMNS

Bound method error

The syntax problem is shadowing method and variable names. In the current version sort_word_list() is a method, and sorted_word_list is a variable, whereas num_words is both. Also, list.sort() modifies the list and replaces it with a sorted version; the sorted(list) function actually returns a new list.

But I suspect this indicates a design problem. What's the point of calls like

test.parser()
test.sort_word_list()
test.num_words()

which don't do anything? You should probably just have the methods figure out whether the appropriate counting and/or sorting has been done, and, if appropriate, do the count or sort and otherwise just return something.

E.G.,

def sort_word_list(self):
   if self.sorted_word_list is not None:
      self.sorted_word_list = sorted(self.word_list)
   return self.sorted_word_list

(Alternately, you could use properties.)

Android Recyclerview vs ListView with Viewholder

More from Bill Phillip's article (go read it!) but i thought it was important to point out the following.

In ListView, there was some ambiguity about how to handle click events: Should the individual views handle those events, or should the ListView handle them through OnItemClickListener? In RecyclerView, though, the ViewHolder is in a clear position to act as a row-level controller object that handles those kinds of details.

We saw earlier that LayoutManager handled positioning views, and ItemAnimator handled animating them. ViewHolder is the last piece: it’s responsible for handling any events that occur on a specific item that RecyclerView displays.

How to post a file from a form with Axios

Add the file to a formData object, and set the Content-Type header to multipart/form-data.

var formData = new FormData();

axios.post('upload_file', formData, {
    headers: {
      'Content-Type': 'multipart/form-data'

Converting from IEnumerable to List

In case you're working with a regular old System.Collections.IEnumerable instead of IEnumerable<T> you can use enumerable.Cast<object>().ToList()

Mongoimport of json file

A bit late for probable answer, might help new people. In case you have multiple instances of database:

mongoimport --host <host_name>:<host_port> --db <database_name> --collection <collection_name>  --file <path_to_dump_file> -u <my_user> -p <my_pass>

Assuming credentials needed, otherwise remove this option.

How to get to Model or Viewbag Variables in a Script Tag

You can do this way, providing Json or Any other variable:

1) For exemple, in the controller, you can use Json.NET to provide Json to the ViewBag:

ViewBag.Number = 10;
ViewBag.FooObj = JsonConvert.SerializeObject(new Foo { Text = "Im a foo." });

2) In the View, put the script like this at the bottom of the page.

<script type="text/javascript">
    var number = parseInt(@ViewBag.Number); //Accessing the number from the ViewBag
    alert("Number is: " + number);
    var model = @Html.Raw(@ViewBag.FooObj); //Accessing the Json Object from ViewBag
    alert("Text is: " + model.Text);
</script>

Adding data attribute to DOM

Using .data() will only add data to the jQuery object for that element. In order to add the information to the element itself you need to access that element using jQuery's .attr or native .setAttribute

$('div').attr('data-info', 1);
$('div')[0].setAttribute('data-info',1);

In order to access an element with the attribute set, you can simply select based on that attribute as you note in your post ($('div[data-info="1"]')), but when you use .data() you cannot. In order to select based on the .data() setting, you would need to use jQuery's filter function.

Check if a list contains an item in Ansible

Ansible has a version_compare filter since 1.6. You can do something like below in when conditional:

when: ansible_distribution_version | version_compare('12.04', '>=')

This will give you support for major & minor versions comparisons and you can compare versions using operators like:

<, lt, <=, le, >, gt, >=, ge, ==, =, eq, !=, <>, ne

You can find more information about this here: Ansible - Version comparison filters

Otherwise if you have really simple case you can use what @ProfHase85 suggested

Correct way to read a text file into a buffer in C?

char source[1000000];

FILE *fp = fopen("TheFile.txt", "r");
if(fp != NULL)
{
    while((symbol = getc(fp)) != EOF)
    {
        strcat(source, &symbol);
    }
    fclose(fp);
}

There are quite a few things wrong with this code:

  1. It is very slow (you are extracting the buffer one character at a time).
  2. If the filesize is over sizeof(source), this is prone to buffer overflows.
  3. Really, when you look at it more closely, this code should not work at all. As stated in the man pages:

The strcat() function appends a copy of the null-terminated string s2 to the end of the null-terminated string s1, then add a terminating `\0'.

You are appending a character (not a NUL-terminated string!) to a string that may or may not be NUL-terminated. The only time I can imagine this working according to the man-page description is if every character in the file is NUL-terminated, in which case this would be rather pointless. So yes, this is most definitely a terrible abuse of strcat().

The following are two alternatives to consider using instead.

If you know the maximum buffer size ahead of time:

#include <stdio.h>
#define MAXBUFLEN 1000000

char source[MAXBUFLEN + 1];
FILE *fp = fopen("foo.txt", "r");
if (fp != NULL) {
    size_t newLen = fread(source, sizeof(char), MAXBUFLEN, fp);
    if ( ferror( fp ) != 0 ) {
        fputs("Error reading file", stderr);
    } else {
        source[newLen++] = '\0'; /* Just to be safe. */
    }

    fclose(fp);
}

Or, if you do not:

#include <stdio.h>
#include <stdlib.h>

char *source = NULL;
FILE *fp = fopen("foo.txt", "r");
if (fp != NULL) {
    /* Go to the end of the file. */
    if (fseek(fp, 0L, SEEK_END) == 0) {
        /* Get the size of the file. */
        long bufsize = ftell(fp);
        if (bufsize == -1) { /* Error */ }

        /* Allocate our buffer to that size. */
        source = malloc(sizeof(char) * (bufsize + 1));

        /* Go back to the start of the file. */
        if (fseek(fp, 0L, SEEK_SET) != 0) { /* Error */ }

        /* Read the entire file into memory. */
        size_t newLen = fread(source, sizeof(char), bufsize, fp);
        if ( ferror( fp ) != 0 ) {
            fputs("Error reading file", stderr);
        } else {
            source[newLen++] = '\0'; /* Just to be safe. */
        }
    }
    fclose(fp);
}

free(source); /* Don't forget to call free() later! */

Proper way to rename solution (and directories) in Visual Studio

Remove/add project file method

This method is entirely aimed at renaming the directory for the project, as viewed in Windows Explorer.

  1. Backup your entire project using something like GIT, SVN, or WinZip (important!).
  2. Within the solution in Visual Studio, remove the project.
  3. Rename the directory in Windows Explorer.
  4. Add the project back in again within Visual Studio.

Advantages

  • You can make the directory within Windows Explorer match the project name within the solution.

Disadvantages

  • If you remove a library, it removes any references to the said library from other projects. The solution may not compile after this until you add the references to said library back in (this is quite easy). This is the reason why step 1 (backup) is so important.
  • If you have source control, you will lose the history of the file.

Right-clicking on a project and selecting "Open Folder in Windows Explorer" is useful to keep track of where the project is stored while you are performing this process.

Applying a single font to an entire website with CSS

The universal selector * refers to all elements, this css will do it for you:

*{
  font-family:Algerian;
}

But unfortunately if you are using FontAwesome icons, or any Icons that require their own font family, this will simply destroy the icons and they will not show the required view.

To avoid this you can use the :not selector, a sample of fontawesome icon is <i class="fa fa-bluetooth"></i>, so simply you can use:

*:not(i){
  font-family:Algerian;
}

this will apply this family to all elements in the document except the elements with the tag name <i>, you can also do it for classes:

*:not(.fa){
  font-family:Algerian;
}

this will apply this family to all elements in the document except the elements with the class "fa" which refers to fontawesome default class, you can also target more than one class like this:

*:not(i):not(.fa):not(.YourClassName){
  font-family:Algerian;
}

How to return result of a SELECT inside a function in PostgreSQL?

Use RETURN QUERY:

CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION word_frequency(_max_tokens int)
  RETURNS TABLE (txt text -- also visible as OUT parameter inside function
               , cnt   bigint
               , ratio bigint) AS
$func$
BEGIN
   RETURN QUERY
   SELECT t.txt
        , count(*) AS cnt -- column alias only visible inside
        , (count(*) * 100) / _max_tokens  -- I added brackets
   FROM  (
      SELECT t.txt
      FROM   token t
      WHERE  t.chartype = 'ALPHABETIC'
      LIMIT  _max_tokens
      ) t
   GROUP  BY t.txt
   ORDER BY cnt DESC; -- potential ambiguity
END
$func$  LANGUAGE plpgsql;

Call:

SELECT * FROM word_frequency(123);

Explanation:

  • It is much more practical to explicitly define the return type than simply declaring it as record. This way you don't have to provide a column definition list with every function call. RETURNS TABLE is one way to do that. There are others. Data types of OUT parameters have to match exactly what is returned by the query.

  • Choose names for OUT parameters carefully. They are visible in the function body almost anywhere. Table-qualify columns of the same name to avoid conflicts or unexpected results. I did that for all columns in my example.

    But note the potential naming conflict between the OUT parameter cnt and the column alias of the same name. In this particular case (RETURN QUERY SELECT ...) Postgres uses the column alias over the OUT parameter either way. This can be ambiguous in other contexts, though. There are various ways to avoid any confusion:

    1. Use the ordinal position of the item in the SELECT list: ORDER BY 2 DESC. Example:
    2. Repeat the expression ORDER BY count(*).
    3. (Not applicable here.) Set the configuration parameter plpgsql.variable_conflict or use the special command #variable_conflict error | use_variable | use_column in the function. See:
  • Don't use "text" or "count" as column names. Both are legal to use in Postgres, but "count" is a reserved word in standard SQL and a basic function name and "text" is a basic data type. Can lead to confusing errors. I use txt and cnt in my examples.

  • Added a missing ; and corrected a syntax error in the header. (_max_tokens int), not (int maxTokens) - type after name.

  • While working with integer division, it's better to multiply first and divide later, to minimize the rounding error. Even better: work with numeric (or a floating point type). See below.

Alternative

This is what I think your query should actually look like (calculating a relative share per token):

CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION word_frequency(_max_tokens int)
  RETURNS TABLE (txt            text
               , abs_cnt        bigint
               , relative_share numeric) AS
$func$
BEGIN
   RETURN QUERY
   SELECT t.txt, t.cnt
        , round((t.cnt * 100) / (sum(t.cnt) OVER ()), 2)  -- AS relative_share
   FROM  (
      SELECT t.txt, count(*) AS cnt
      FROM   token t
      WHERE  t.chartype = 'ALPHABETIC'
      GROUP  BY t.txt
      ORDER  BY cnt DESC
      LIMIT  _max_tokens
      ) t
   ORDER  BY t.cnt DESC;
END
$func$  LANGUAGE plpgsql;

The expression sum(t.cnt) OVER () is a window function. You could use a CTE instead of the subquery - pretty, but a subquery is typically cheaper in simple cases like this one.

A final explicit RETURN statement is not required (but allowed) when working with OUT parameters or RETURNS TABLE (which makes implicit use of OUT parameters).

round() with two parameters only works for numeric types. count() in the subquery produces a bigint result and a sum() over this bigint produces a numeric result, thus we deal with a numeric number automatically and everything just falls into place.

How do I keep the screen on in my App?

You need to use Power Manager to acquire a wake lock in your application.

Most probably you are interested in a FULL_WAKE_LOCK:

PowerManager pm = (PowerManager) getSystemService(Context.POWER_SERVICE);
PowerManager.WakeLock wl = pm.newWakeLock(PowerManager.FULL_WAKE_LOCK, "My Tag");
wl.acquire();
....
wl.release();

FtpWebRequest Download File

Easiest way

The most trivial way to download a binary file from an FTP server using .NET framework is using WebClient.DownloadFile:

WebClient client = new WebClient();
client.Credentials = new NetworkCredential("username", "password");
client.DownloadFile(
    "ftp://ftp.example.com/remote/path/file.zip", @"C:\local\path\file.zip");

Advanced options

Use FtpWebRequest, only if you need a greater control, that WebClient does not offer (like TLS/SSL encryption, progress monitoring, ascii/text transfer mode, resuming transfers, etc). Easy way is to just copy an FTP response stream to FileStream using Stream.CopyTo:

FtpWebRequest request =
    (FtpWebRequest)WebRequest.Create("ftp://ftp.example.com/remote/path/file.zip");
request.Credentials = new NetworkCredential("username", "password");
request.Method = WebRequestMethods.Ftp.DownloadFile;

using (Stream ftpStream = request.GetResponse().GetResponseStream())
using (Stream fileStream = File.Create(@"C:\local\path\file.zip"))
{
    ftpStream.CopyTo(fileStream);
}

Progress monitoring

If you need to monitor a download progress, you have to copy the contents by chunks yourself:

FtpWebRequest request =
    (FtpWebRequest)WebRequest.Create("ftp://ftp.example.com/remote/path/file.zip");
request.Credentials = new NetworkCredential("username", "password");
request.Method = WebRequestMethods.Ftp.DownloadFile;

using (Stream ftpStream = request.GetResponse().GetResponseStream())
using (Stream fileStream = File.Create(@"C:\local\path\file.zip"))
{
    byte[] buffer = new byte[10240];
    int read;
    while ((read = ftpStream.Read(buffer, 0, buffer.Length)) > 0)
    {
        fileStream.Write(buffer, 0, read);
        Console.WriteLine("Downloaded {0} bytes", fileStream.Position);
    }
}

How to create an installer for a .net Windows Service using Visual Studio

In the service project do the following:

  1. In the solution explorer double click your services .cs file. It should bring up a screen that is all gray and talks about dragging stuff from the toolbox.
  2. Then right click on the gray area and select add installer. This will add an installer project file to your project.
  3. Then you will have 2 components on the design view of the ProjectInstaller.cs (serviceProcessInstaller1 and serviceInstaller1). You should then setup the properties as you need such as service name and user that it should run as.

Now you need to make a setup project. The best thing to do is use the setup wizard.

  1. Right click on your solution and add a new project: Add > New Project > Setup and Deployment Projects > Setup Wizard

    a. This could vary slightly for different versions of Visual Studio. b. Visual Studio 2010 it is located in: Install Templates > Other Project Types > Setup and Deployment > Visual Studio Installer

  2. On the second step select "Create a Setup for a Windows Application."

  3. On the 3rd step, select "Primary output from..."

  4. Click through to Finish.

Next edit your installer to make sure the correct output is included.

  1. Right click on the setup project in your Solution Explorer.
  2. Select View > Custom Actions. (In VS2008 it might be View > Editor > Custom Actions)
  3. Right-click on the Install action in the Custom Actions tree and select 'Add Custom Action...'
  4. In the "Select Item in Project" dialog, select Application Folder and click OK.
  5. Click OK to select "Primary output from..." option. A new node should be created.
  6. Repeat steps 4 - 5 for commit, rollback and uninstall actions.

You can edit the installer output name by right clicking the Installer project in your solution and select Properties. Change the 'Output file name:' to whatever you want. By selecting the installer project as well and looking at the properties windows, you can edit the Product Name, Title, Manufacturer, etc...

Next build your installer and it will produce an MSI and a setup.exe. Choose whichever you want to use to deploy your service.

SQL Select between dates

One more way to select between dates in SQLite is to use the powerful strftime function:

SELECT * FROM test WHERE strftime('%Y-%m-%d', date) BETWEEN "11-01-2011" AND "11-08-2011"

These are equivalent according to https://sqlite.org/lang_datefunc.html:

date(...)

strftime('%Y-%m-%d', ...)

but if you want more choice, you have it.

Android Webview - Completely Clear the Cache

use case: list of item are displaying in recycler view, whenever any item click it hides recycler view and shows web view with item url.

problem: i have similar problem in which once i open a url_one in webview , then try to open another url_two in webview, it shows url_one in background till url_two is loaded.

solution: so to solve what i did is load blank string "" as url just before hiding url_one and loading url_two.

output: whenever i load any new url in webview it does not show any other web page in background.

code

public void showWebView(String url){
        webView.loadUrl(url);
        recyclerView.setVisibility(View.GONE);
        webView.setVisibility(View.VISIBLE);
    }

public void onListItemClick(String url){
   showWebView(url);
}

public void hideWebView(){
        // loading blank url so it overrides last open url
        webView.loadUrl("");
        webView.setVisibility(View.GONE);
        recyclerView.setVisibility(View.GONE);
   }

 @Override

How do I use arrays in C++?

5. Common pitfalls when using arrays.

5.1 Pitfall: Trusting type-unsafe linking.

OK, you’ve been told, or have found out yourself, that globals (namespace scope variables that can be accessed outside the translation unit) are Evil™. But did you know how truly Evil™ they are? Consider the program below, consisting of two files [main.cpp] and [numbers.cpp]:

// [main.cpp]
#include <iostream>

extern int* numbers;

int main()
{
    using namespace std;
    for( int i = 0;  i < 42;  ++i )
    {
        cout << (i > 0? ", " : "") << numbers[i];
    }
    cout << endl;
}

// [numbers.cpp]
int numbers[42] = {1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9};

In Windows 7 this compiles and links fine with both MinGW g++ 4.4.1 and Visual C++ 10.0.

Since the types don't match, the program crashes when you run it.

The Windows 7 crash dialog

In-the-formal explanation: the program has Undefined Behavior (UB), and instead of crashing it can therefore just hang, or perhaps do nothing, or it can send threating e-mails to the presidents of the USA, Russia, India, China and Switzerland, and make Nasal Daemons fly out of your nose.

In-practice explanation: in main.cpp the array is treated as a pointer, placed at the same address as the array. For 32-bit executable this means that the first int value in the array, is treated as a pointer. I.e., in main.cpp the numbers variable contains, or appears to contain, (int*)1. This causes the program to access memory down at very bottom of the address space, which is conventionally reserved and trap-causing. Result: you get a crash.

The compilers are fully within their rights to not diagnose this error, because C++11 §3.5/10 says, about the requirement of compatible types for the declarations,

[N3290 §3.5/10]
A violation of this rule on type identity does not require a diagnostic.

The same paragraph details the variation that is allowed:

… declarations for an array object can specify array types that differ by the presence or absence of a major array bound (8.3.4).

This allowed variation does not include declaring a name as an array in one translation unit, and as a pointer in another translation unit.

5.2 Pitfall: Doing premature optimization (memset & friends).

Not written yet

5.3 Pitfall: Using the C idiom to get number of elements.

With deep C experience it’s natural to write …

#define N_ITEMS( array )   (sizeof( array )/sizeof( array[0] ))

Since an array decays to pointer to first element where needed, the expression sizeof(a)/sizeof(a[0]) can also be written as sizeof(a)/sizeof(*a). It means the same, and no matter how it’s written it is the C idiom for finding the number elements of array.

Main pitfall: the C idiom is not typesafe. For example, the code …

#include <stdio.h>

#define N_ITEMS( array ) (sizeof( array )/sizeof( *array ))

void display( int const a[7] )
{
    int const   n = N_ITEMS( a );          // Oops.
    printf( "%d elements.\n", n );
}

int main()
{
    int const   moohaha[]   = {1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7};

    printf( "%d elements, calling display...\n", N_ITEMS( moohaha ) );
    display( moohaha );
}

passes a pointer to N_ITEMS, and therefore most likely produces a wrong result. Compiled as a 32-bit executable in Windows 7 it produces …

7 elements, calling display...
1 elements.

  1. The compiler rewrites int const a[7] to just int const a[].
  2. The compiler rewrites int const a[] to int const* a.
  3. N_ITEMS is therefore invoked with a pointer.
  4. For a 32-bit executable sizeof(array) (size of a pointer) is then 4.
  5. sizeof(*array) is equivalent to sizeof(int), which for a 32-bit executable is also 4.

In order to detect this error at run time you can do …

#include <assert.h>
#include <typeinfo>

#define N_ITEMS( array )       (                               \
    assert((                                                    \
        "N_ITEMS requires an actual array as argument", \
        typeid( array ) != typeid( &*array )                    \
        )),                                                     \
    sizeof( array )/sizeof( *array )                            \
    )

7 elements, calling display...
Assertion failed: ( "N_ITEMS requires an actual array as argument", typeid( a ) != typeid( &*a ) ), file runtime_detect ion.cpp, line 16

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.

The runtime error detection is better than no detection, but it wastes a little processor time, and perhaps much more programmer time. Better with detection at compile time! And if you're happy to not support arrays of local types with C++98, then you can do that:

#include <stddef.h>

typedef ptrdiff_t   Size;

template< class Type, Size n >
Size n_items( Type (&)[n] ) { return n; }

#define N_ITEMS( array )       n_items( array )

Compiling this definition substituted into the first complete program, with g++, I got …

M:\count> g++ compile_time_detection.cpp
compile_time_detection.cpp: In function 'void display(const int*)':
compile_time_detection.cpp:14: error: no matching function for call to 'n_items(const int*&)'

M:\count> _

How it works: the array is passed by reference to n_items, and so it does not decay to pointer to first element, and the function can just return the number of elements specified by the type.

With C++11 you can use this also for arrays of local type, and it's the type safe C++ idiom for finding the number of elements of an array.

5.4 C++11 & C++14 pitfall: Using a constexpr array size function.

With C++11 and later it's natural, but as you'll see dangerous!, to replace the C++03 function

typedef ptrdiff_t   Size;

template< class Type, Size n >
Size n_items( Type (&)[n] ) { return n; }

with

using Size = ptrdiff_t;

template< class Type, Size n >
constexpr auto n_items( Type (&)[n] ) -> Size { return n; }

where the significant change is the use of constexpr, which allows this function to produce a compile time constant.

For example, in contrast to the C++03 function, such a compile time constant can be used to declare an array of the same size as another:

// Example 1
void foo()
{
    int const x[] = {3, 1, 4, 1, 5, 9, 2, 6, 5, 4};
    constexpr Size n = n_items( x );
    int y[n] = {};
    // Using y here.
}

But consider this code using the constexpr version:

// Example 2
template< class Collection >
void foo( Collection const& c )
{
    constexpr int n = n_items( c );     // Not in C++14!
    // Use c here
}

auto main() -> int
{
    int x[42];
    foo( x );
}

The pitfall: as of July 2015 the above compiles with MinGW-64 5.1.0 with -pedantic-errors, and, testing with the online compilers at gcc.godbolt.org/, also with clang 3.0 and clang 3.2, but not with clang 3.3, 3.4.1, 3.5.0, 3.5.1, 3.6 (rc1) or 3.7 (experimental). And important for the Windows platform, it does not compile with Visual C++ 2015. The reason is a C++11/C++14 statement about use of references in constexpr expressions:

C++11 C++14 $5.19/2 nineth dash

A conditional-expression e is a core constant expression unless the evaluation of e, following the rules of the abstract machine (1.9), would evaluate one of the following expressions:
        ?

  • an id-expression that refers to a variable or data member of reference type unless the reference has a preceding initialization and either
    • it is initialized with a constant expression or
    • it is a non-static data member of an object whose lifetime began within the evaluation of e;

One can always write the more verbose

// Example 3  --  limited

using Size = ptrdiff_t;

template< class Collection >
void foo( Collection const& c )
{
    constexpr Size n = std::extent< decltype( c ) >::value;
    // Use c here
}

… but this fails when Collection is not a raw array.

To deal with collections that can be non-arrays one needs the overloadability of an n_items function, but also, for compile time use one needs a compile time representation of the array size. And the classic C++03 solution, which works fine also in C++11 and C++14, is to let the function report its result not as a value but via its function result type. For example like this:

// Example 4 - OK (not ideal, but portable and safe)

#include <array>
#include <stddef.h>

using Size = ptrdiff_t;

template< Size n >
struct Size_carrier
{
    char sizer[n];
};

template< class Type, Size n >
auto static_n_items( Type (&)[n] )
    -> Size_carrier<n>;
// No implementation, is used only at compile time.

template< class Type, size_t n >        // size_t for g++
auto static_n_items( std::array<Type, n> const& )
    -> Size_carrier<n>;
// No implementation, is used only at compile time.

#define STATIC_N_ITEMS( c ) \
    static_cast<Size>( sizeof( static_n_items( c ).sizer ) )

template< class Collection >
void foo( Collection const& c )
{
    constexpr Size n = STATIC_N_ITEMS( c );
    // Use c here
    (void) c;
}

auto main() -> int
{
    int x[42];
    std::array<int, 43> y;
    foo( x );
    foo( y );
}

About the choice of return type for static_n_items: this code doesn't use std::integral_constant because with std::integral_constant the result is represented directly as a constexpr value, reintroducing the original problem. Instead of a Size_carrier class one can let the function directly return a reference to an array. However, not everybody is familiar with that syntax.

About the naming: part of this solution to the constexpr-invalid-due-to-reference problem is to make the choice of compile time constant explicit.

Hopefully the oops-there-was-a-reference-involved-in-your-constexpr issue will be fixed with C++17, but until then a macro like the STATIC_N_ITEMS above yields portability, e.g. to the clang and Visual C++ compilers, retaining type safety.

Related: macros do not respect scopes, so to avoid name collisions it can be a good idea to use a name prefix, e.g. MYLIB_STATIC_N_ITEMS.

Changing an AIX password via script?

Use GNU passwd stdin flag.

From the man page:

   --stdin
          This option is used to indicate that passwd should read the new password from standard input, which can be a pipe.

NOTE: Only for root user.

Example

$ adduser foo
$ echo "NewPass" |passwd foo --stdin
Changing password for user foo.
passwd: all authentication tokens updated successfully.

Alternatively you can use expect, this simple code will do the trick:

#!/usr/bin/expect
spawn passwd foo
expect "password:"
send "Xcv15kl\r"
expect "Retype new password:"
send "Xcv15kl\r"
interact

Results

$ ./passwd.xp
spawn passwd foo
Changing password for user foo.
New password:
Retype new password:
passwd: all authentication tokens updated successfully.

Excel select a value from a cell having row number calculated

You could use the INDIRECT function. This takes a string and converts it into a range

More info here

=INDIRECT("K"&A2)

But it's preferable to use INDEX as it is less volatile.

=INDEX(K:K,A2)

This returns a value or the reference to a value from within a table or range

More info here

Put either function into cell B2 and fill down.

Generating combinations in c++

A simple way using std::next_permutation:

#include <iostream>
#include <algorithm>
#include <vector>

int main() {
    int n, r;
    std::cin >> n;
    std::cin >> r;

    std::vector<bool> v(n);
    std::fill(v.end() - r, v.end(), true);

    do {
        for (int i = 0; i < n; ++i) {
            if (v[i]) {
                std::cout << (i + 1) << " ";
            }
        }
        std::cout << "\n";
    } while (std::next_permutation(v.begin(), v.end()));
    return 0;
}

or a slight variation that outputs the results in an easier to follow order:

#include <iostream>
#include <algorithm>
#include <vector>

int main() {
   int n, r;
   std::cin >> n;
   std::cin >> r;

   std::vector<bool> v(n);
   std::fill(v.begin(), v.begin() + r, true);

   do {
       for (int i = 0; i < n; ++i) {
           if (v[i]) {
               std::cout << (i + 1) << " ";
           }
       }
       std::cout << "\n";
   } while (std::prev_permutation(v.begin(), v.end()));
   return 0;
}

A bit of explanation:

It works by creating a "selection array" (v), where we place r selectors, then we create all permutations of these selectors, and print the corresponding set member if it is selected in in the current permutation of v.

You can implement it if you note that for each level r you select a number from 1 to n.

In C++, we need to 'manually' keep the state between calls that produces results (a combination): so, we build a class that on construction initialize the state, and has a member that on each call returns the combination while there are solutions: for instance

#include <iostream>
#include <iterator>
#include <vector>
#include <cstdlib>

using namespace std;

struct combinations
{
    typedef vector<int> combination_t;

    // initialize status
   combinations(int N, int R) :
       completed(N < 1 || R > N),
       generated(0),
       N(N), R(R)
   {
       for (int c = 1; c <= R; ++c)
           curr.push_back(c);
   }

   // true while there are more solutions
   bool completed;

   // count how many generated
   int generated;

   // get current and compute next combination
   combination_t next()
   {
       combination_t ret = curr;

       // find what to increment
       completed = true;
       for (int i = R - 1; i >= 0; --i)
           if (curr[i] < N - R + i + 1)
           {
               int j = curr[i] + 1;
               while (i <= R-1)
                   curr[i++] = j++;
               completed = false;
               ++generated;
               break;
           }

       return ret;
   }

private:

   int N, R;
   combination_t curr;
};

int main(int argc, char **argv)
{
    int N = argc >= 2 ? atoi(argv[1]) : 5;
    int R = argc >= 3 ? atoi(argv[2]) : 2;
    combinations cs(N, R);
    while (!cs.completed)
    {
        combinations::combination_t c = cs.next();
        copy(c.begin(), c.end(), ostream_iterator<int>(cout, ","));
        cout << endl;
    }
    return cs.generated;
}

Creating SVG graphics using Javascript?

This answer is from 2009. Now a community wiki in case anybody cares to bring it up-to-date.

IE needs a plugin to display SVG. Most common is the one available for download by Adobe; however, Adobe no longer supports or develops it. Firefox, Opera, Chrome, Safari, will all display basic SVG fine but will run into quirks if advanced features are used, as support is incomplete. Firefox has no support for declarative animation.

SVG elements can be created with javascript as follows:

// "circle" may be any tag name
var shape = document.createElementNS("http://www.w3.org/2000/svg", "circle");
// Set any attributes as desired
shape.setAttribute("cx", 25);
shape.setAttribute("cy", 25);
shape.setAttribute("r",  20);
shape.setAttribute("fill", "green");
// Add to a parent node; document.documentElement should be the root svg element.
// Acquiring a parent element with document.getElementById() would be safest.
document.documentElement.appendChild(shape);

The SVG specification describes the DOM interfaces for all SVG elements. For example, the SVGCircleElement, which is created above, has cx, cy, and r attributes for the center point and radius, which can be directly accessed. These are the SVGAnimatedLength attributes, which have a baseVal property for the normal value, and an animVal property for the animated value. Browsers at the moment are not reliably supporting the animVal property. baseVal is an SVGLength, whose value is set by the value property.

Hence, for script animations, one can also set these DOM properties to control SVG. The following code should be equivalent to the above code:

var shape = document.createElementNS("http://www.w3.org/2000/svg", "circle");
shape.cx.baseVal.value = 25;
shape.cy.baseVal.value = 25;
shape.r.baseVal.value = 20;
shape.setAttribute("fill", "green");
document.documentElement.appendChild(shape);

C# Set collection?

I know this is an old thread, but I was running into the same problem and found HashSet to be very unreliable because given the same seed, GetHashCode() returned different codes. So, I thought, why not just use a List and hide the add method like this

public class UniqueList<T> : List<T>
{
    public new void Add(T obj)
    {
        if(!Contains(obj))
        {
            base.Add(obj);
        }
    }
}

Because List uses the Equals method solely to determine equality, you can define the Equals method on your T type to make sure you get the desired results.

How to check if a string contains only numbers?

You can pass nothing if you don't need the returned integer like so

if integer.TryParse(number,nothing) then

CMake does not find Visual C++ compiler

Here is the solution that worked for me:

  1. Open Visual Studio command prompt tool (as an administrator). On windows 10 it might be called 'Developer command prompt'.
  2. Navigate to where you have the CMake executable
  3. Run Cmake.exe
  4. Proceed as usual to select build and source folder
  5. Select the appropriate Visual Studio compiler and hit the configure button

Hopefully it should run without problems.

expected constructor, destructor, or type conversion before ‘(’ token

The first constructor in the header should not end with a semicolon. #include <string> is missing in the header. string is not qualified with std:: in the .cpp file. Those are all simple syntax errors. More importantly: you are not using references, when you should. Also the way you use the ifstream is broken. I suggest learning C++ before trying to use it.

Let's fix this up:

//polygone.h
# if !defined(__POLYGONE_H__)
# define __POLYGONE_H__

#include <iostream>
#include <string>

class Polygone {
public:
  // declarations have to end with a semicolon, definitions do not
  Polygone(){} // why would we needs this?
  Polygone(const std::string& fichier);
};

# endif

and

//polygone.cc
// no need to include things twice
#include "polygone.h"
#include <fstream>

Polygone::Polygone(const std::string& nom)
{
  std::ifstream fichier (nom, ios::in);

  if (fichier.is_open())
  {
    // keep the scope as tiny as possible
    std::string line;
    // getline returns the stream and streams convert to booleans
    while ( std::getline(fichier, line) )
    {
      std::cout << line << std::endl;
    }
  }
  else
  {
    std::cerr << "Erreur a l'ouverture du fichier" << std::endl;
  }
}

how to evenly distribute elements in a div next to each other?

This is the quick and easy way to do it

<div>
    <span>Span 1</span>
    <span>Span 2</span>
    <span>Span 3</span>
</div>

css

div{
    width:100%;
}
span{
    display:inline-block;
    width:33%;
    text-align:center;
}

Then adjust the width of the spans for the number you have.

I got the same issue in IntelliJ IDEA Community with Maven and I had to reimport the project by right-clicking the project in the Project tab -> Maven -> Reimport

Error creating bean with name 'entityManagerFactory

This sounds like a ClassLoader conflict. I'd bet you have the javax.persistence api 1.x on the classpath somewhere, whereas Spring is trying to access ValidationMode, which was only introduced in JPA 2.0.

Since you use Maven, do mvn dependency:tree, find the artifact:

<dependency>
    <groupId>javax.persistence</groupId>
    <artifactId>persistence-api</artifactId>
    <version>1.0</version>
</dependency>

And remove it from your setup. (See Excluding Dependencies)

AFAIK there is no such general distribution for JPA 2, but you can use this Hibernate-specific version:

<dependency>
    <groupId>org.hibernate.javax.persistence</groupId>
    <artifactId>hibernate-jpa-2.0-api</artifactId>
    <version>1.0.1.Final</version>
</dependency>

OK, since that doesn't work, you still seem to have some JPA-1 version in there somewhere. In a test method, add this code:

System.out.println(EntityManager.class.getProtectionDomain()
                                      .getCodeSource()
                                      .getLocation());

See where that points you and get rid of that artifact.

Ahh, now I finally see the problem. Get rid of this:

<dependency>
    <groupId>org.springframework</groupId>
    <artifactId>spring-jpa</artifactId>
    <version>2.0.8</version>
</dependency>

and replace it with

<dependency>
    <groupId>org.springframework</groupId>
    <artifactId>spring-orm</artifactId>
    <version>3.2.5.RELEASE</version>
</dependency>

On a different note, you should set all test libraries (spring-test, easymock etc.) to

<scope>test</scope>

Powershell Get-ChildItem most recent file in directory

If you want the latest file in the directory and you are using only the LastWriteTime to determine the latest file, you can do something like below:

gci path | sort LastWriteTime | select -last 1

On the other hand, if you want to only rely on the names that have the dates in them, you should be able to something similar

gci path | select -last 1

Also, if there are directories in the directory, you might want to add a ?{-not $_.PsIsContainer}

javascript createElement(), style problem

yourElement.setAttribute("style", "background-color:red; font-size:2em;");

Or you could write the element as pure HTML and use .innerHTML = [raw html code]... that's very ugly though.

In answer to your first question, first you use var myElement = createElement(...);, then you do document.body.appendChild(myElement);.

how to set ulimit / file descriptor on docker container the image tag is phusion/baseimage-docker

I have tried many options and unsure as to why a few solutions suggested above work on one machine and not on others.

A solution that works and that is simple and can work per container is:

docker run --ulimit memlock=819200000:819200000 -h <docker_host_name> --name=current -v /home/user_home:/user_home -i -d -t docker_user_name/image_name

How to write palindrome in JavaScript

How can I verify if a number is palindrome?

I have my function but is not right because it's for a string not a number:

function palindrom(str){
  for(var i=0;i<str.length;i++){
    if(str[i]!==str[str.length-i-1]){
      return false;
    }
  }
  return true;
}

console.log(palindrom("121"));
console.log(palindrom("1234321"));
console.log(palindrom("3211432"));

What is the documents directory (NSDocumentDirectory)?

You can access documents directory using this code it is basically used for storing file in plist format:

NSArray *paths = NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSDocumentDirectory, NSUserDomainMask, YES);
NSString *documentsDirectory = [paths firstObject];
return documentsDirectory;

Failed: Error in connection establishment: net::ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED

CONNECTION_REFUSED is standard when the port is closed, but it could be rejected because SSL is failing authentication (one of a billion reasons). Did you configure SSL with Ratchet? (Apache is bypassed) Did you try without SSL in JavaScript?

I don't think Ratchet has built-in support for SSL. But even if it does you'll want to try the ws:// protocol first; it's a lot simpler, easier to debug, and closer to telnet. Chrome or the socket service may also be generating the REFUSED error if the service doesn't support SSL (because you explicitly requested SSL).

However the refused message is likely a server side problem, (usually port closed).

How can I add an item to a IEnumerable<T> collection?

The type IEnumerable<T> does not support such operations. The purpose of the IEnumerable<T> interface is to allow a consumer to view the contents of a collection. Not to modify the values.

When you do operations like .ToList().Add() you are creating a new List<T> and adding a value to that list. It has no connection to the original list.

What you can do is use the Add extension method to create a new IEnumerable<T> with the added value.

items = items.Add("msg2");

Even in this case it won't modify the original IEnumerable<T> object. This can be verified by holding a reference to it. For example

var items = new string[]{"foo"};
var temp = items;
items = items.Add("bar");

After this set of operations the variable temp will still only reference an enumerable with a single element "foo" in the set of values while items will reference a different enumerable with values "foo" and "bar".

EDIT

I contstantly forget that Add is not a typical extension method on IEnumerable<T> because it's one of the first ones that I end up defining. Here it is

public static IEnumerable<T> Add<T>(this IEnumerable<T> e, T value) {
  foreach ( var cur in e) {
    yield return cur;
  }
  yield return value;
}

FragmentActivity to Fragment

first of all;

a Fragment must be inside a FragmentActivity, that's the first rule,

a FragmentActivity is quite similar to a standart Activity that you already know, besides having some Fragment oriented methods

second thing about Fragments, is that there is one important method you MUST call, wich is onCreateView, where you inflate your layout, think of it as the setContentLayout

here is an example:

    @Override public View onCreateView(LayoutInflater inflater, ViewGroup container, Bundle savedInstanceState) {     mView       = inflater.inflate(R.layout.fragment_layout, container, false);       return mView; }

and continu your work based on that mView, so to find a View by id, call mView.findViewById(..);

for the FragmentActivity part:

the xml part "must" have a FrameLayout in order to inflate a fragment in it

        <FrameLayout             android:id="@+id/content_frame"             android:layout_width="match_parent"             android:layout_height="match_parent"  >         </FrameLayout>

as for the inflation part

getSupportFragmentManager().beginTransaction().replace(R.id.content_frame, new YOUR_FRAGMENT, "TAG").commit();

begin with these, as there is tons of other stuf you must know about fragments and fragment activities, start of by reading something about it (like life cycle) at the android developer site

What is a semaphore?

So imagine everyone is trying to go to the bathroom and there's only a certain number of keys to the bathroom. Now if there's not enough keys left, that person needs to wait. So think of semaphore as representing those set of keys available for bathrooms (the system resources) that different processes (bathroom goers) can request access to.

Now imagine two processes trying to go to the bathroom at the same time. That's not a good situation and semaphores are used to prevent this. Unfortunately, the semaphore is a voluntary mechanism and processes (our bathroom goers) can ignore it (i.e. even if there are keys, someone can still just kick the door open).

There are also differences between binary/mutex & counting semaphores.

Disposing WPF User Controls

You have to be careful using the destructor. This will get called on the GC Finalizer thread. In some cases the resources that your freeing may not like being released on a different thread from the one they were created on.

Convert double/float to string

The only exact solution is to perform arbitrary-precision decimal arithmetic for the base conversion, since the exact value can be very long - for 80-bit long double, up to about 10000 decimal places. Fortunately it's "only" up to about 700 places or so for IEEE double.

Rather than working with individual decimal digits, it's helpful to instead work base-1-billion (the highest power of 10 that fits in a 32-bit integer) and then convert these "base-1-billion digits" to 9 decimal digits each at the end of your computation.

I have a very dense (rather hard to read) but efficient implementation here, under LGPL MIT license:

http://git.musl-libc.org/cgit/musl/blob/src/stdio/vfprintf.c?h=v1.1.6

If you strip out all the hex float support, infinity/nan support, %g/%f/%e variation support, rounding (which will never be needed if you only want exact answers), and other things you might not need, the remaining code is rather simple.

How to convert NSData to byte array in iPhone?

Here's what I believe is the Swift equivalent:

if let data = NSData(contentsOfFile: filePath) {
   let length = data.length
   let byteData = malloc(length)
   memcmp(byteData, data.bytes, length)
}

Spring JUnit: How to Mock autowired component in autowired component

Another approach in integration testing is to define a new Configuration class and provide it as your @ContextConfiguration. Into the configuration you will be able to mock your beans and also you must define all types of beans which you are using in test/s flow. To provide an example :

@RunWith(SpringRunner.class)
@ContextConfiguration(loader = AnnotationConfigContextLoader.class)
public class MockTest{
 @Configuration
 static class ContextConfiguration{
 // ... you beans here used in test flow
 @Bean
    public MockMvc mockMvc() {
        return MockMvcBuilders.standaloneSetup(/*you can declare your controller beans defines on top*/)
                .addFilters(/*optionally filters*/).build();
    }
 //Defined a mocked bean
 @Bean
    public MyService myMockedService() {
        return Mockito.mock(MyService.class);
    }
 }

 @Autowired
 private MockMvc mockMvc;

 @Autowired
 MyService myMockedService;

 @Before
 public void setup(){
  //mock your methods from MyService bean
  when(myMockedService.myMethod(/*params*/)).thenReturn(/*my answer*/);
 }

 @Test
 public void test(){
  //test your controller which trigger the method from MyService
  MvcResult result = mockMvc.perform(get(CONTROLLER_URL)).andReturn();
  // do your asserts to verify
 }
}

Get distance between two points in canvas

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Euclidean_distance

If you have the coordinates, use the formula to calculate the distance:

var dist = Math.sqrt( Math.pow((x1-x2), 2) + Math.pow((y1-y2), 2) );

If your platform supports the ** operator, you can instead use that:

const dist = Math.sqrt((x1 - x2) ** 2 + (y1 - y2) ** 2);

Display current path in terminal only

If you just want to get the information of current directory, you can type:

pwd

and you don't need to use the Nautilus, or you can use a teamviewer software to remote connect to the computer, you can get everything you want.

How do I get the unix timestamp in C as an int?

}

what you want?

$ gcc -Wall -Wextra -pedantic -std=c99 tstamp.c && ./a.out

To get microseconds since the epoch, from C11 on, the portable way is to use

int timespec_get(struct timespec *ts, int base)

Unfortunately, C11 is not yet available everywhere, so as of now, the closest to portable is using one of the POSIX functions clock_gettime or gettimeofday (marked obsolete in POSIX.1-2008, which recommends clock_gettime).

The code for both functions is nearly identical:

#include <stdio.h>
#include <time.h>
#include <stdint.h>
#include <inttypes.h>

int main(void) {

    struct timespec tms;

    /* The C11 way */
    /* if (! timespec_get(&tms, TIME_UTC)) { */

    /* POSIX.1-2008 way */
    if (clock_gettime(CLOCK_REALTIME,&tms)) {
        return -1;
    }
    /* seconds, multiplied with 1 million */
    int64_t micros = tms.tv_sec * 1000000;
    /* Add full microseconds */
    micros += tms.tv_nsec/1000;
    /* round up if necessary */
    if (tms.tv_nsec % 1000 >= 500) {
        ++micros;
    }
    printf("Microseconds: %"PRId64"\n",micros);
    return 0;
}

Set drawable size programmatically

i didn't have time to dig why the setBounds() method is not working on bitmap drawable as expected but i have little tweaked @androbean-studio solution to do what setBounds should do...

/**

 * this class wraps drawable and forwards draw canvas
 * on it wrapped instance by using its defined bounds

How do I open phone settings when a button is clicked?

word of warning: the prefs:root or App-Prefs:root URL schemes are considered private API. Apple may reject you app if you use those, here is what you may get when submitting your app:

Your app uses the "prefs:root=" non-public URL scheme, which is a private entity. The use of non-public APIs is not permitted on the App Store because it can lead to a poor user experience should these APIs change. Continuing to use or conceal non-public APIs in future submissions of this app may result in the termination of your Apple Developer account, as well as removal of all associated apps from the App Store.

Next Steps

To resolve this issue, please revise your app to provide the associated functionality using public APIs or remove the functionality using the "prefs:root" or "App-Prefs:root" URL scheme.

If there are no alternatives for providing the functionality your app requires, you can file an enhancement request.

when I run mockito test occurs WrongTypeOfReturnValue Exception

I had this error because in my test I had two expectations, one on a mock and one on concrete type

MyClass cls = new MyClass();
MyClass cls2 = Mockito.mock(Myclass.class);
when(foo.bar(cls)).thenReturn(); // cls is not actually a mock
when(foo.baz(cls2)).thenReturn();

I fixed it by changing cls to be a mock as well

how to calculate binary search complexity

Here a more mathematical way of seeing it, though not really complicated. IMO much clearer as informal ones:

The question is, how many times can you divide N by 2 until you have 1? This is essentially saying, do a binary search (half the elements) until you found it. In a formula this would be this:

1 = N / 2x

multiply by 2x:

2x = N

now do the log2:

log2(2x)    = log2 N
x * log2(2) = log2 N
x * 1         = log2 N

this means you can divide log N times until you have everything divided. Which means you have to divide log N ("do the binary search step") until you found your element.

Please initialize the log4j system properly warning

From the link in the error message:

This occurs when the default configuration files log4j.properties and log4j.xml can not be found and the application performs no explicit configuration. log4j uses Thread.getContextClassLoader().getResource() to locate the default configuration files and does not directly check the file system. Knowing the appropriate location to place log4j.properties or log4j.xml requires understanding the search strategy of the class loader in use. log4j does not provide a default configuration since output to the console or to the file system may be prohibited in some environments. Also see FAQ: Why can't log4j find my properties in a J2EE or WAR application?.

The configuration file cannot be found. Are you using xml or a property file??

Also, use logback!

Xpath for href element

This will get you the generic link:

selenium.FindElement(By.XPath("xpath=//a[contains(@href,'listDetails.do')")).Click();

If you want to have it specify a parameter then you will have to test for each one:

...
int i = 1;

selenium.FindElement(By.XPath("xpath=//a[contains(@href,'listDetails.do?camp=" + i.ToString() + "')")).Click();
...

The above could utilize a for loop which navigates to and from each camp numbers' page, which could verify a static list of camps.

Please excuse if the code is not perfect, I have not tested myself.

Insert line break inside placeholder attribute of a textarea?

I liked the work of Jason Gennaro and Denis Golomazov, but I wanted something that would be more globally useful. I have modified the concept so that it can be added to any page without repercussion.

http://jsfiddle.net/pdXRx/297/

<h1>Demo: 5 different textarea placeholder behaviors from a single JS</h1>

<h2>Modified behaviors</h2>

<!-- To get simulated placeholder with New Lines behavior,
     add the placeholdernl attribute -->

<textarea placeholdernl> (click me to demo)

<textarea placeholder='Address' placeholdernl>    (click me to demo)

<textarea placeholder='Address'></textarea>

The javascript is very simple

<script>

var handleFocus = function(){
    var $this = $(this);
    if($this.val() === $this.attr('placeholdernl')){
        $this.attr('value', '');
        $this.css('color', '');
    }
};

var handleBlur = function(){
    var $this = $(this);
    if($this.val() == ''){
        $this.attr('value', $this.attr('placeholdernl'))
        $this.css('color', 'gray');
    }
};

$('textarea[placeholdernl]').each(function(){
    var $this = $(this),
        value = $this.attr('value'),
        placeholder = $this.attr('placeholder');
    $this.attr('placeholdernl', value ? value : placeholder);
    $this.attr('value', '');
    $this.focus(handleFocus).blur(handleBlur).trigger('blur');
});
})(jQuery);
</script>

How do I determine file encoding in OS X?

You can also convert from one file type to another using the following command :

iconv -f original_charset -t new_charset originalfile > newfile

e.g.

iconv -f utf-16le -t utf-8 file1.txt > file2.txt

JavaScriptSerializer.Deserialize - how to change field names

Create a class inherited from JavaScriptConverter. You must then implement three things:

Methods-

  1. Serialize
  2. Deserialize

Property-

  1. SupportedTypes

You can use the JavaScriptConverter class when you need more control over the serialization and deserialization process.

JavaScriptSerializer serializer = new JavaScriptSerializer();
serializer.RegisterConverters(new JavaScriptConverter[] { new MyCustomConverter() });

DataObject dataObject = serializer.Deserialize<DataObject>(JsonData);

How to get UTC+0 date in Java 8?

tl;dr

Instant.now()

java.time

The troublesome old date-time classes bundled with the earliest versions of Java have been supplanted by the java.time classes built into Java 8 and later. See Oracle Tutorial. Much of the functionality has been back-ported to Java 6 & 7 in ThreeTen-Backport and further adapted to Android in ThreeTenABP.

Instant

An Instant represents a moment on the timeline in UTC with a resolution of up to nanoseconds.

Instant instant = Instant.now();

The toString method generates a String object with text representing the date-time value using one of the standard ISO 8601 formats.

String output = instant.toString();

2016-06-27T19:15:25.864Z

The Instant class is a basic building-block class in java.time. This should be your go-to class when handling date-time as generally the best practice is to track, store, and exchange date-time values in UTC.

OffsetDateTime

But Instant has limitations such as no formatting options for generating strings in alternate formats. For more flexibility, convert from Instant to OffsetDateTime. Specify an offset-from-UTC. In java.time that means a ZoneOffset object. Here we want to stick with UTC (+00) so we can use the convenient constant ZoneOffset.UTC.

OffsetDateTime odt = instant.atOffset( ZoneOffset.UTC );

2016-06-27T19:15:25.864Z

Or skip the Instant class.

OffsetDateTime.now( ZoneOffset.UTC )

Now with an OffsetDateTime object in hand, you can use DateTimeFormatter to create String objects with text in alternate formats. Search Stack Overflow for many examples of using DateTimeFormatter.

ZonedDateTime

When you want to display wall-clock time for some particular time zone, apply a ZoneId to get a ZonedDateTime.

In this example we apply Montréal time zone. In the summer, under Daylight Saving Time (DST) nonsense, the zone has an offset of -04:00. So note how the time-of-day is four hours earlier in the output, 15 instead of 19 hours. Instant and the ZonedDateTime both represent the very same simultaneous moment, just viewed through two different lenses.

ZoneId z = ZoneId.of( "America/Montreal" );
ZonedDateTime zdt = instant.atZone( z );

2016-06-27T15:15:25.864-04:00[America/Montreal]

Converting

While you should avoid the old date-time classes, if you must you can convert using new methods added to the old classes. Here we use java.util.Date.from( Instant ) and java.util.Date::toInstant.

java.util.Date utilDate = java.util.Date.from( instant );

And going the other direction.

Instant instant= utilDate.toInstant();

Similarly, look for new methods added to GregorianCalendar (subclass of Calendar) to convert to and from java.time.ZonedDateTime.

Table of types of date-time classes in modern java.time versus legacy.

About java.time

The java.time framework is built into Java 8 and later. These classes supplant the troublesome old legacy date-time classes such as java.util.Date, Calendar, & SimpleDateFormat.

To learn more, see the Oracle Tutorial. And search Stack Overflow for many examples and explanations. Specification is JSR 310.

The Joda-Time project, now in maintenance mode, advises migration to the java.time classes.

You may exchange java.time objects directly with your database. Use a JDBC driver compliant with JDBC 4.2 or later. No need for strings, no need for java.sql.* classes. Hibernate 5 & JPA 2.2 support java.time.

How to convert empty spaces into null values, using SQL Server?

A case statement should do the trick when selecting from your source table:

CASE
  WHEN col1 = ' ' THEN NULL
  ELSE col1
END col1

Also, one thing to note is that your LTRIM and RTRIM reduce the value from a space (' ') to blank (''). If you need to remove white space, then the case statement should be modified appropriately:

CASE
  WHEN LTRIM(RTRIM(col1)) = '' THEN NULL
  ELSE LTRIM(RTRIM(col1))
END col1

How to get all files under a specific directory in MATLAB?

I used the code mentioned in this great answer and expanded it to support 2 additional parameters which I needed in my case. The parameters are file extensions to filter on and a flag indicating whether to concatenate the full path to the name of the file or not.

I hope it is clear enough and someone will finds it beneficial.

function fileList = getAllFiles(dirName, fileExtension, appendFullPath)

  dirData = dir([dirName '/' fileExtension]); %# Get the data for the current directory
  dirWithSubFolders = dir(dirName);
  dirIndex = [dirWithSubFolders.isdir]; %# Find the index for directories
  fileList = {dirData.name}'; %'# Get a list of the files
  if ~isempty(fileList)
    if appendFullPath
      fileList = cellfun(@(x) fullfile(dirName,x),...  %# Prepend path to files
                       fileList,'UniformOutput',false);
    end
  end
  subDirs = {dirWithSubFolders(dirIndex).name}; %# Get a list of the subdirectories
  validIndex = ~ismember(subDirs,{'.','..'}); %# Find index of subdirectories
                                               %#   that are not '.' or '..'
  for iDir = find(validIndex) %# Loop over valid subdirectories
    nextDir = fullfile(dirName,subDirs{iDir}); %# Get the subdirectory path
    fileList = [fileList; getAllFiles(nextDir, fileExtension, appendFullPath)]; %# Recursively call getAllFiles
  end

end

Example for running the code:

fileList = getAllFiles(dirName, '*.xml', 0); %#0 is false obviously

"SDK Platform Tools component is missing!"

The latest version of the Android SDK ships with two different applications: an SDK Manager and an AVD Manager rather than one single app that was valid when this question was originally asked.

My particular problem was unrelated to the other suggestions. I'm on a network at the moment where HTTPS traffic is mostly disallowed. In order to install the Android Platform Tools I needed to turn on the option to "Force https://... sources to be fetched using http://..." and then this allowed me to install the other tools.

Writing data to a local text file with javascript

Our HTML:

JS (writing to the txt file):

function writeToFile(d1, d2){
    var fso = new ActiveXObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject");
    var fh = fso.OpenTextFile("data.txt", 8, false, 0);
    fh.WriteLine(d1 + ',' + d2);
    fh.Close();
}
var submit = document.getElementById("submit");
submit.onclick = function () {
    var id      = document.getElementById("id").value;
    var content = document.getElementById("content").value;
    writeToFile(id, content);
}

checking a particular row:

function readFile(){
    var fso = new ActiveXObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject");
    var fh = fso.OpenTextFile("data.txt", 1, false, 0);
    var lines = "";
    while (!fh.AtEndOfStream) {
        lines += fh.ReadLine() + "\r";
    }
    fh.Close();
    return lines;
}
var search = document.getElementById("search");
search.onclick = function () {
    var input   = document.getElementById("input").value;
    if (input != "") {
        var text    = readFile();
        var lines   = text.split("\r");
        lines.pop();
        var result;
        for (var i = 0; i < lines.length; i++) {
            if (lines[i].match(new RegExp(input))) {
                result = "Found: " + lines[i].split(",")[1];
            }
        }
        if (result) { alert(result); }
        else { alert(input + " not found!"); }
    }
}

Put these inside a .hta file and run it. Tested on W7, IE11. It's working. Also if you want me to explain what's going on, say so.

How to manually force a commit in a @Transactional method?

Why don't you use spring's TransactionTemplate to programmatically control transactions? You could also restructure your code so that each "transaction block" has it's own @Transactional method, but given that it's a test I would opt for programmatic control of your transactions.

Also note that the @Transactional annotation on your runnable won't work (unless you are using aspectj) as the runnables aren't managed by spring!

@RunWith(SpringJUnit4ClassRunner.class)
//other spring-test annotations; as your database context is dirty due to the committed transaction you might want to consider using @DirtiesContext
public class TransactionTemplateTest {

@Autowired
PlatformTransactionManager platformTransactionManager;

TransactionTemplate transactionTemplate;

@Before
public void setUp() throws Exception {
    transactionTemplate = new TransactionTemplate(platformTransactionManager);
}

public void test() throws InterruptedException {

    final Contract c1 = transactionTemplate.execute(new TransactionCallback<Contract>() {
        @Override
        public Contract doInTransaction(TransactionStatus status) {
            Contract c = contractDOD.getNewTransientContract(15);
            contractRepository.save(c);
            return c;
        }
    });

    ExecutorService executorService = Executors.newFixedThreadPool(5);

    for (int i = 0; i < 5; ++i) {
        executorService.execute(new Runnable() {

Switch to another Git tag

As of Git v2.23.0 (August 2019), git switch is preferred over git checkout when you’re simply switching branches/tags. I’m guessing they did this since git checkout had two functions: for switching branches and for restoring files. So in v2.23.0, they added two new commands, git switch, and git restore, to separate those concerns. I would predict at some point in the future, git checkout will be deprecated.

To switch to a normal branch, use git switch <branch-name>. To switch to a commit-like object, including single commits and tags, use git switch --detach <commitish>, where <commitish> is the tag name or commit number.

The --detach option forces you to recognize that you’re in a mode of “inspection and discardable experiments”. To create a new branch from the commitish you’re switching to, use git switch -c <new-branch> <start-point>.

JSON.parse vs. eval()

Not all browsers have native JSON support so there will be times where you need to use eval() to the JSON string. Use JSON parser from http://json.org as that handles everything a lot easier for you.

Eval() is an evil but against some browsers its a necessary evil but where you can avoid it, do so!!!!!

How to cancel an $http request in AngularJS?

here is a version that handles multiple requests, also checks for cancelled status in callback to suppress errors in error block. (in Typescript)

controller level:

    requests = new Map<string, ng.IDeferred<{}>>();

in my http get:

    getSomething(): void {
        let url = '/api/someaction';
        this.cancel(url); // cancel if this url is in progress

        var req = this.$q.defer();
        this.requests.set(url, req);
        let config: ng.IRequestShortcutConfig = {
            params: { id: someId}
            , timeout: req.promise   // <--- promise to trigger cancellation
        };

        this.$http.post(url, this.getPayload(), config).then(
            promiseValue => this.updateEditor(promiseValue.data as IEditor),
            reason => {
                // if legitimate exception, show error in UI
                if (!this.isCancelled(req)) {
                    this.showError(url, reason)
                }
            },
        ).finally(() => { });
    }

helper methods

    cancel(url: string) {
        this.requests.forEach((req,key) => {
            if (key == url)
                req.resolve('cancelled');
        });
        this.requests.delete(url);
    }

    isCancelled(req: ng.IDeferred<{}>) {
        var p = req.promise as any; // as any because typings are missing $$state
        return p.$$state && p.$$state.value == 'cancelled';
    }

now looking at the network tab, i see that it works beatuifully. i called the method 4 times and only the last one went through.

Why is document.write considered a "bad practice"?

I think the biggest problem is that any elements written via document.write are added to the end of the page's elements. That's rarely the desired effect with modern page layouts and AJAX. (you have to keep in mind that the elements in the DOM are temporal, and when the script runs may affect its behavior).

It's much better to set a placeholder element on the page, and then manipulate it's innerHTML.

Twitter Bootstrap Tabs: Go to Specific Tab on Page Reload or Hyperlink

I would suggest you use the code provided by Bootstrap authors on their issue tracker on GitHub:

var hash = location.hash
  , hashPieces = hash.split('?')

activeTab && activeTab.tab('show');

You can find on the link to the issue more information about why they didn't choose to support that.

Rails Active Record find(:all, :order => ) issue

It is good that you've found your solution. But it is an interesting problem. I tried it out myself directly with sqlite3 (not going through rails) and did not get the same result, for me the order came out as expected.

What I suggest you to do if you want to continue digging in this problem is to start the sqlite3 command-line application and check the schema and the queries there:

This shows you the schema: .schema

And then just run the select statement as it showed up in the log files: SELECT * FROM "shows" ORDER BY date ASC, attending DESC

That way you see if:

  1. The schema looks as you want it (that date is actually a date for instance)
  2. That the date column actually contains a date, and not a timestamp (that is, that you don't have a time of the day that messes up the sort)

PHP regular expression - filter number only

To remove anything that is not a number:

$output = preg_replace('/[^0-9]/', '', $input);

Explanation:

  • [0-9] matches any number between 0 and 9 inclusively.
  • ^ negates a [] pattern.
  • So, [^0-9] matches anything that is not a number, and since we're using preg_replace, they will be replaced by nothing '' (second argument of preg_replace).

How can I get browser to prompt to save password?

The truth is, you can't force the browser to ask. I'm sure the browser has it's own algorithm for guessing if you've entered a username/password, such as looking for an input of type="password" but you cannot set anything to force the browser.

You could, as others suggest, add user information in a cookie. If you do this, you better encrypt it at the least and do not store their password. Perhaps store their username at most.

Anyway to prevent the Blue highlighting of elements in Chrome when clicking quickly?

For Chrome on Android, you can use the -webkit-tap-highlight-color CSS property:

-webkit-tap-highlight-color is a non-standard CSS property that sets the color of the highlight that appears over a link while it's being tapped. The highlighting indicates to the user that their tap is being successfully recognized, and indicates which element they're tapping on.

To remove the highlighting completely, you can set the value to transparent:

-webkit-tap-highlight-color: transparent;

Be aware that this might have consequences on accessibility: see outlinenone.com

Format certain floating dataframe columns into percentage in pandas

As suggested by @linqu you should not change your data for presentation. Since pandas 0.17.1, (conditional) formatting was made easier. Quoting the documentation:

You can apply conditional formatting, the visual styling of a DataFrame depending on the data within, by using the DataFrame.style property. This is a property that returns a pandas.Styler object, which has useful methods for formatting and displaying DataFrames.

For your example, that would be (the usual table will show up in Jupyter):

df.style.format({
    'var1': '{:,.2f}'.format,
    'var2': '{:,.2f}'.format,
    'var3': '{:,.2%}'.format,
})

HTML 5 input type="number" element for floating point numbers on Chrome

Note: If you're using AngularJS, then in addition to changing the step value, you may have to set ng-model-options="{updateOn: 'blur change'}" on the html input.

The reason for this is in order to have the validators run less often, as they are preventing the user from entering a decimal point. This way, the user can type in a decimal point and the validators go into effect after the user blurs.

Using FFmpeg in .net?

GPL-compiled ffmpeg can be used from non-GPL program (commercial project) only if it is invoked in the separate process as command line utility; all wrappers that are linked with ffmpeg library (including Microsoft's FFMpegInterop) can use only LGPL build of ffmpeg.

You may try my .NET wrapper for FFMpeg: Video Converter for .NET (I'm an author of this library). It embeds FFMpeg.exe into the DLL for easy deployment and doesn't break GPL rules (FFMpeg is NOT linked and wrapper invokes it in the separate process with System.Diagnostics.Process).

Matplotlib scatter plot legend

Other answers seem a bit complex, you can just add a parameter 'label' in scatter function and that will be the legend for your plot.

import matplotlib.pyplot as plt
from numpy.random import random

colors = ['b', 'c', 'y', 'm', 'r']

lo = plt.scatter(random(10), random(10), marker='x', color=colors[0],label='Low Outlier')
ll = plt.scatter(random(10), random(10), marker='o', color=colors[0],label='LoLo')
l  = plt.scatter(random(10), random(10), marker='o', color=colors[1],label='Lo')
a  = plt.scatter(random(10), random(10), marker='o', color=colors[2],label='Average')
h  = plt.scatter(random(10), random(10), marker='o', color=colors[3],label='Hi')
hh = plt.scatter(random(10), random(10), marker='o', color=colors[4],label='HiHi')
ho = plt.scatter(random(10), random(10), marker='x', color=colors[4],label='High Outlier')

plt.legend(loc='upper center', bbox_to_anchor=(0.5, -0.05),
          fancybox=True, shadow=True, ncol=4)

plt.show()

This is your output:

Windows batch file file download from a URL

There's a standard Windows component which can achieve what you're trying to do: BITS. It has been included in Windows since XP and 2000 SP3.

Run:

bitsadmin.exe /transfer "JobName" http://download.url/here.exe C:\destination\here.exe

The job name is simply the display name for the download job - set it to something that describes what you're doing.

Change value of input placeholder via model?

Since AngularJS does not have directive DOM manipulations as jQuery does, a proper way to modify attributes of one element will be using directive. Through link function of a directive, you have access to both element and its attributes.

Wrapping you whole input inside one directive, you can still introduce ng-model's methods through controller property.

This method will help to decouple the logic of ngmodel with placeholder from controller. If there is no logic between them, you can definitely go as Wagner Francisco said.

Import and insert sql.gz file into database with putty

For an oneliner, on linux or cygwin, you need to do public key authentication on the host, otherwise ssh will be asking for password.

gunzip -c numbers.sql.gz | ssh user@host mysql --user=user_name --password=your_password db_name

Or do port forwarding and connect to the remote mysql using a "local" connection:

ssh -L some_port:host:local_mysql_port user@host

then do the mysql connection on your local machine to localhost:some_port.

The port forwarding will work from putty too, with the similar -L option or you can configure it from the settings panel, somewhere down on the tree.

getting error HTTP Status 405 - HTTP method GET is not supported by this URL but not used `get` ever?

The problem is that you mapped your servlet to /register.html and it expects POST method, because you implemented only doPost() method. So when you open register.html page, it will not open html page with the form but servlet that handles the form data.

Alternatively when you submit POST form to non-existing URL, web container will display 405 error (method not allowed) instead of 404 (not found).

To fix:

<servlet-mapping>
    <servlet-name>Register</servlet-name>
    <url-pattern>/Register</url-pattern>
</servlet-mapping>

C++ template typedef

C++11 added alias declarations, which are generalization of typedef, allowing templates:

template <size_t N>
using Vector = Matrix<N, 1>;

The type Vector<3> is equivalent to Matrix<3, 1>.

In C++03, the closest approximation was:

template <size_t N>
struct Vector
{
    typedef Matrix<N, 1> type;
};

Here, the type Vector<3>::type is equivalent to Matrix<3, 1>.

Map implementation with duplicate keys

Could you also explain the context for which you are trying to implement a map with duplicate keys? I am sure there could be a better solution. Maps are intended to keep unique keys for good reason. Though if you really wanted to do it; you can always extend the class write a simple custom map class which has a collision mitigation function and would enable you to keep multiple entries with same keys.

Note: You must implement collision mitigation function such that, colliding keys are converted to unique set "always". Something simple like, appending key with object hashcode or something?

Linq Query Group By and Selecting First Items

var results = list.GroupBy(x => x.Category)
            .Select(g => g.OrderBy(x => x.SortByProp).FirstOrDefault());

For those wondering how to do this for groups that are not necessarily sorted correctly, here's an expansion of this answer that uses method syntax to customize the sort order of each group and hence get the desired record from each.

Note: If you're using LINQ-to-Entities you will get a runtime exception if you use First() instead of FirstOrDefault() here as the former can only be used as a final query operation.

Date formatting in WPF datagrid

first select datagrid and then go to properties find Datagrid_AutoGeneratingColumn and the double click And then use this code

            {
                if (e.PropertyName == "Your column name")
                    (e.Column as DataGridTextColumn).Binding.StringFormat = "dd/MMMMMMMMM/yyyy";
                if (e.PropertyName == "Your column name")
                    (e.Column as DataGridTextColumn).Binding.StringFormat = "dd/MMMMMMMMM/yyyy";
            }

I try it it works on WPF

Differences between strong and weak in Objective-C

strong: assigns the incoming value to it, it will retain the incoming value and release the existing value of the instance variable

weak: will assign the incoming value to it without retaining it.

So the basic difference is the retaining of the new variable. Generaly you want to retain it but there are situations where you don't want to have it otherwise you will get a retain cycle and can not free the memory the objects. Eg. obj1 retains obj2 and obj2 retains obj1. To solve this kind of situation you use weak references.

UnexpectedRollbackException: Transaction rolled back because it has been marked as rollback-only

This is the normal behavior and the reason is that your sqlCommandHandlerService.persist method needs a TX when being executed (because it is marked with @Transactional annotation). But when it is called inside processNextRegistrationMessage, because there is a TX available, the container doesn't create a new one and uses existing TX. So if any exception occurs in sqlCommandHandlerService.persist method, it causes TX to be set to rollBackOnly (even if you catch the exception in the caller and ignore it).

To overcome this you can use propagation levels for transactions. Have a look at this to find out which propagation best suits your requirements.

Update; Read this!

Well after a colleague came to me with a couple of questions about a similar situation, I feel this needs a bit of clarification.
Although propagations solve such issues, you should be VERY careful about using them and do not use them unless you ABSOLUTELY understand what they mean and how they work. You may end up persisting some data and rolling back some others where you don't expect them to work that way and things can go horribly wrong.

How do I remove an array item in TypeScript?

You can try to get index or position of list or array first, then use for loop to assign current array to a temp list, filter out unwanted item and store wanted item back to original array

removeItem(index) {
    var tempList = this.uploadFile;
    this.uploadFile = [];

    for (var j = 0; j < tempList.length; j++) {
      if (j != index)
        this.uploadFile.push(tempList[j]);
    }
  }

New og:image size for Facebook share?

What size this image should be depends on where it is to be used.

It is up to applications, eg WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Reddit, etc etc to decide what to do with the image. Some use it as a square image, some as a 1:19.1 rectangle, and some use different sizes when the display environment is of different sizes even for the same application. There are no rules, and there is no way to control what applications do with the image.

So you should test out the image on your intended target application(s) and find a compromise. That applications tend to cache the image makes it a pain on the trial and error approach.

React.js: Identifying different inputs with one onChange handler

The onChange event bubbles... So you can do something like this:

// A sample form
render () {
  <form onChange={setField}>
    <input name="input1" />
    <input name="input2" />
  </form>
}

And your setField method might look like this (assuming you're using ES2015 or later:

setField (e) {
  this.setState({[e.target.name]: e.target.value})
}

I use something similar to this in several apps, and it's pretty handy.

How to link an input button to a file select window?

If you want to allow the user to browse for a file, you need to have an input type="file" The closest you could get to your requirement would be to place the input type="file" on the page and hide it. Then, trigger the click event of the input when the button is clicked:

#myFileInput {
    display:none;
}

<input type="file" id="myFileInput" />
<input type="button"
       onclick="document.getElementById('myFileInput').click()"
       value="Select a File" />

Here's a working fiddle.

Note: I would not recommend this approach. The input type="file" is the mechanism that users are accustomed to using for uploading a file.

        var len = form.elements.length;
        for (i=0; i<len; i++) {
            field = form.elements[i];
            if (field.name && !field.disabled && field.type != 'file' && field.type != 'reset' && field.type != 'submit' && field.type != 'button') {
                if (field.type == 'select-multiple') {
                    for (j=form.elements[i].options.length-1; j>=0; j--) {
                        if(field.options[j].selected)
                            s[s.length] = encodeURIComponent(field.name) + "=" + encodeURIComponent(field.options[j].value);
                    }
                } else if ((field.type != 'checkbox' && field.type != 'radio') || field.checked) {
                    s[s.length] = encodeURIComponent(field.name) + "=" + encodeURIComponent(field.value);
                }
            }
        }
    }
    return s.join('&').replace(/%20/g, '+');
}

Disabled fields are discarded and names are also URL encoded. Regex replace of %20 characters takes place only once, before returning the string.

The query string is in identical form to the result from jQuery's $.serialize() method.

Getting first and last day of the current month

Try this code it is already built in c#

int lastDay = DateTime.DaysInMonth (2014, 2);

and the first day is always 1.

Good Luck!

Get values from other sheet using VBA

That will be (for you very specific example)

ActiveWorkbook.worksheets("Sheet2").cells(aRow,aCol).Value=someval

OR

someVal=ActiveWorkbook.worksheets("Sheet2").cells(aRow,aCol).Value

So get a F1 click and read about Worksheets collection, which contains Worksheet objects, which in turn has a Cells collection, holding Cell objects...

HTML: Is it possible to have a FORM tag in each TABLE ROW in a XHTML valid way?

The answer of @wmantly is basicly 'the same' as I would go for at this moment. Don't use <form> tags at all and prevent 'inappropiate' tag nesting. Use javascript (in this case jQuery) to do the posting of the data, mostly you will do it with javascript, because only one row had to be updated and feedback must be given without refreshing the whole page (if refreshing the whole page, it's no use to go through all these trobules to only post a single row).

I attach a click handler to a 'update' anchor at each row, that will trigger the collection and 'submit' of the fields on the same row. With an optional data-action attribute on the anchor tag the target url of the POST can be specified.

Example html

<table>
    <tbody>
        <tr>
            <td><input type="hidden" name="id" value="row1"/><input name="textfield" type="text" value="input1" /></td>
            <td><select name="selectfield">
                <option selected value="select1-option1">select1-option1</option>
                <option value="select1-option2">select1-option2</option>
                <option value="select1-option3">select1-option3</option>
            </select></td>
            <td><a class="submit" href="#" data-action="/exampleurl">Update</a></td>
        </tr>
        <tr>
            <td><input type="hidden" name="id" value="row2"/><input name="textfield" type="text" value="input2" /></td>
            <td><select name="selectfield">
                <option selected value="select2-option1">select2-option1</option>
                <option value="select2-option2">select2-option2</option>
                <option value="select2-option3">select2-option3</option>
            </select></td>
            <td><a class="submit" href="#" data-action="/different-url">Update</a></td>
        </tr>
        <tr>
            <td><input type="hidden" name="id" value="row3"/><input name="textfield" type="text" value="input3" /></td>
            <td><select name="selectfield">
                <option selected value="select3-option1">select3-option1</option>
                <option value="select3-option2">select3-option2</option>
                <option value="select3-option3">select3-option3</option>
            </select></td>
            <td><a class="submit" href="#">Update</a></td>
        </tr>
    </tbody>
</table>

Example script

    $(document).ready(function(){
        $(".submit").on("click", function(event){
            event.preventDefault();
            var url = ($(this).data("action") === "undefined" ? "/" : $(this).data("action"));
            var row = $(this).parents("tr").first();
            var data = row.find("input, select, radio").serialize();
            $.post(url, data, function(result){ console.log(result); });
        });
    });

A JSFIddle

How do you set autocommit in an SQL Server session?

You can turn autocommit ON by setting implicit_transactions OFF:

SET IMPLICIT_TRANSACTIONS OFF

When the setting is ON, it returns to implicit transaction mode. In implicit transaction mode, every change you make starts a transactions which you have to commit manually.

Maybe an example is clearer. This will write a change to the database:

SET IMPLICIT_TRANSACTIONS ON
UPDATE MyTable SET MyField = 1 WHERE MyId = 1
COMMIT TRANSACTION

This will not write a change to the database:

SET IMPLICIT_TRANSACTIONS ON
UPDATE MyTable SET MyField = 1 WHERE MyId = 1
ROLLBACK TRANSACTION

The following example will update a row, and then complain that there's no transaction to commit:

SET IMPLICIT_TRANSACTIONS OFF
UPDATE MyTable SET MyField = 1 WHERE MyId = 1
ROLLBACK TRANSACTION

Like Mitch Wheat said, autocommit is the default for Sql Server 2000 and up.

How do detect Android Tablets in general. Useragent?

While Mobile Android may have "mobile" in it's user-agent string, what if it's using Opera Mobile for Android on a Tablet? It'll still have "mobile" in it's user-agent string, but should be displaying Tablet-sized sites. You'll need to test for "mobile" that is not preceded by "opera" rather than just "mobile"

or you could just forget about Opera Mobile.

How to Export Private / Secret ASC Key to Decrypt GPG Files

All the above replies are correct, but might be missing one crucial step, you need to edit the imported key and "ultimately trust" that key

gpg --edit-key (keyIDNumber)
gpg> trust

Please decide how far you trust this user to correctly verify other users' keys
(by looking at passports, checking fingerprints from different sources, etc.)

  1 = I don't know or won't say
  2 = I do NOT trust
  3 = I trust marginally
  4 = I trust fully
  5 = I trust ultimately
  m = back to the main menu

and select 5 to enable that imported private key as one of your keys

Getting DOM node from React child element

I found an easy way using the new callback refs. You can just pass a callback as a prop to the child component. Like this:

class Container extends React.Component {
  constructor(props) {
    super(props)
    this.setRef = this.setRef.bind(this)
  }

  setRef(node) {
    this.childRef = node
  }

  render() {
    return <Child setRef={ this.setRef }/>
  }
}

const Child = ({ setRef }) => (
    <div ref={ setRef }>
    </div>
)

Here's an example of doing this with a modal:

class Container extends React.Component {
  constructor(props) {
    super(props)
    this.state = {
      modalOpen: false
    }
    this.open = this.open.bind(this)
    this.close = this.close.bind(this)
    this.setModal = this.setModal.bind(this)
  }

  open() {
    this.setState({ open: true })
  }

  close(event) {
    if (!this.modal.contains(event.target)) {
      this.setState({ open: false })
    }
  }

  setModal(node) {
    this.modal = node
  }

  render() {
    let { modalOpen } = this.state
    return (
      <div>
        <button onClick={ this.open }>Open</button>
        {
          modalOpen ? <Modal close={ this.close } setModal={ this.setModal }/> : null
        }
      </div>
    )
  }
}

const Modal = ({ close, setModal }) => (
  <div className='modal' onClick={ close }>
    <div className='modal-window' ref={ setModal }>
    </div>
  </div>
)

Ruby, Difference between exec, system and %x() or Backticks

system

The system method calls a system program. You have to provide the command as a string argument to this method. For example:

>> system("date")
Wed Sep 4 22:03:44 CEST 2013
=> true

The invoked program will use the current STDIN, STDOUT and STDERR objects of your Ruby program. In fact, the actual return value is either true, false or nil. In the example the date was printed through the IO object of STDIN. The method will return true if the process exited with a zero status, false if the process exited with a non-zero status and nil if the execution failed.

As of Ruby 2.6, passing exception: true will raise an exception instead of returning false or nil:

>> system('invalid')
=> nil

>> system('invalid', exception: true)
Traceback (most recent call last):
...
Errno::ENOENT (No such file or directory - invalid)

Another side effect is that the global variable $? is set to a Process::Status object. This object will contain information about the call itself, including the process identifier (PID) of the invoked process and the exit status.

>> system("date")
Wed Sep 4 22:11:02 CEST 2013
=> true
>> $?
=> #<Process::Status: pid 15470 exit 0>

Backticks

Backticks (``) call a system program and return its output. As opposed to the first approach, the command is not provided through a string, but by putting it inside a backticks pair.

>> `date`
=> Wed Sep 4 22:22:51 CEST 2013

The global variable $? is set through the backticks, too. With backticks you can also make use string interpolation.

%x()

Using %x is an alternative to the backticks style. It will return the output, too. Like its relatives %w and %q (among others), any delimiter will suffice as long as bracket-style delimiters match. This means %x(date), %x{date} and %x-date- are all synonyms. Like backticks %x can make use of string interpolation.

exec

By using Kernel#exec the current process (your Ruby script) is replaced with the process invoked through exec. The method can take a string as argument. In this case the string will be subject to shell expansion. When using more than one argument, then the first one is used to execute a program and the following are provided as arguments to the program to be invoked.

Open3.popen3

Sometimes the required information is written to standard input or standard error and you need to get control over those as well. Here Open3.popen3 comes in handy:

require 'open3'

Open3.popen3("curl http://example.com") do |stdin, stdout, stderr, thread|
   pid = thread.pid
   puts stdout.read.chomp
end

How to check if a function exists on a SQL database

Why not just:

IF object_id('YourFunctionName', 'FN') IS NOT NULL
BEGIN
    DROP FUNCTION [dbo].[YourFunctionName]
END
GO

The second argument of object_id is optional, but can help to identify the correct object. There are numerous possible values for this type argument, particularly:

  • FN : Scalar function
  • IF : Inline table-valued function
  • TF : Table-valued-function
  • FS : Assembly (CLR) scalar-function
  • FT : Assembly (CLR) table-valued function

How do I plot list of tuples in Python?

If I get your question correctly, you could do something like this.

>>> import matplotlib.pyplot as plt
>>> testList =[(0, 6.0705199999997801e-08), (1, 2.1015700100300739e-08),
 (2, 7.6280656623374823e-09), (3, 5.7348209304555086e-09),
 (4, 3.6812203579604238e-09), (5, 4.1572516753310418e-09)]
>>> from math import log
>>> testList2 = [(elem1, log(elem2)) for elem1, elem2 in testList]
>>> testList2
[(0, -16.617236475334405), (1, -17.67799605473062), (2, -18.691431541177973), (3, -18.9767093108359), (4, -19.420021520728017), (5, -19.298411635970396)]
>>> zip(*testList2)
[(0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5), (-16.617236475334405, -17.67799605473062, -18.691431541177973, -18.9767093108359, -19.420021520728017, -19.298411635970396)]
>>> plt.scatter(*zip(*testList2))
>>> plt.show()

which would give you something like

enter image description here

Or as a line plot,

>>> plt.plot(*zip(*testList2))
>>> plt.show()

enter image description here

EDIT - If you want to add a title and labels for the axis, you could do something like

>>> plt.scatter(*zip(*testList2))
>>> plt.title('Random Figure')
>>> plt.xlabel('X-Axis')
>>> plt.ylabel('Y-Axis')
>>> plt.show()

which would give you

enter image description here

How do I view events fired on an element in Chrome DevTools?

You can use monitorEvents function.

Just inspect your element (right mouse click ? Inspect on visible element or go to Elements tab in Chrome Developer Tools and select wanted element) then go to Console tab and write:

monitorEvents($0)

Now when you move mouse over this element, focus or click it, the name of the fired event will be displayed with its data.

To stop getting this data just write this to console:

unmonitorEvents($0)

$0 is just the last DOM element selected by Chrome Developer Tools. You can pass any other DOM object there (for example result of getElementById or querySelector).

You can also specify event "type" as second parameter to narrow monitored events to some predefined set. For example:

monitorEvents(document.body, 'mouse')

List of this available types is here.

I made a small gif that illustrates how this feature works:

usage of monitorEvents function

How do I clear/delete the current line in terminal?

Python: importing a sub-package or sub-module

The reason #2 fails is because sys.modules['module'] does not exist (the import routine has its own scope, and cannot see the module local name), and there's no module module or package on-disk. Note that you can separate multiple imported names by commas.

from package.subpackage.module import attribute1, attribute2, attribute3

Also:

from package.subpackage import module
print module.attribute1

How should I tackle --secure-file-priv in MySQL?

It's working as intended. Your MySQL server has been started with --secure-file-priv option which basically limits from which directories you can load files using LOAD DATA INFILE.

You may use SHOW VARIABLES LIKE "secure_file_priv"; to see the directory that has been configured.

You have two options:

  1. Move your file to the directory specified by secure-file-priv.
  2. Disable secure-file-priv. This must be removed from startup and cannot be modified dynamically. To do this check your MySQL start up parameters (depending on platform) and my.ini.

Content type 'application/x-www-form-urlencoded;charset=UTF-8' not supported for @RequestBody MultiValueMap

You can try to turn support on in spring's converter

@EnableWebMvc
@Configuration
public class WebConfig implements WebMvcConfigurer {

    @Override
    public void extendMessageConverters(List<HttpMessageConverter<?>> converters) {
        // add converter suport Content-Type: 'application/x-www-form-urlencoded'
        converters.stream()
                .filter(AllEncompassingFormHttpMessageConverter.class::isInstance)
                .map(AllEncompassingFormHttpMessageConverter.class::cast)
                .findFirst()
                .ifPresent(converter -> converter.addSupportedMediaTypes(MediaType.APPLICATION_FORM_URLENCODED_VALUE));
    }

}

Objective-C: Extract filename from path string

At the risk of being years late and off topic - and notwithstanding @Marc's excellent insight, in Swift it looks like:

Mean per group in a data.frame

You could also use the generic function cbind() and lm() without the intercept:

cbind(lm(d$Rate1~-1+d$Name)$coef,lm(d$Rate2~-1+d$Name)$coef)

How to change package name of Android Project in Eclipse?

I had big trouble with this too.

I renamed the project and the package via refactoring, but it rendered the app useless. I renamed it back to the original and used the Android tools to rename the package and this worked, but my package folder and classes had the old name.

I then refactored the package folder. Now the app wouldn't run. My manifest was a mess. It doubled up my launcher name for example, com.ronguilmet.app/com.ronguilmet.com.class. I fixed that, and I had to manually edit all activities.

What is "String args[]"? parameter in main method Java

String [] args is also how you declare an array of Strings in Java.

In this method signature, the array args will be filled with values when the method is called (as the other examples here show). Since you're learning though, it's worth understanding that this args array is just like if you created one yourself in a method, as in this:

public void foo() {
    String [] args = new String[2];
    args[0] = "hello";
    args[1] = "every";

    System.out.println("Output: " + args[0] + args[1]);

    // etc... the usage of 'args' here and in the main method is identical
}

How to change row color in datagridview?

You need to loop through the rows in the datagridview and then compare values of columns 7 and 10 on each row.

Try this:

foreach (DataGridViewRow row in vendorsDataGridView.Rows)
     if (Convert.ToInt32(row.Cells[7].Value) < Convert.ToInt32(row.Cells[10].Value))
     {
         row.DefaultCellStyle.BackColor = Color.Red;
     }

Simplest way to serve static data from outside the application server in a Java web application

I did it even simpler. Problem: A CSS file had url links to img folder. Gets 404.

I looked at url, http://tomcatfolder:port/img/blablah.png, which does not exist. But, that is really pointing to the ROOT app in Tomcat.

So I just copied the img folder from my webapp into that ROOT app. Works!

Not recommended for production, of course, but this is for an internal tool dev app.

How do I convert uint to int in C#?

Assuming that the value contained in the uint can be represented in an int, then it is as simple as:

int val = (int) uval;

Re-run Spring Boot Configuration Annotation Processor to update generated metadata

None of the answers worked for me. If you just want to disable the message, go to Intellij Preferences -> Editor -> General -> Appearance, uncheck "Show Spring Boot metadata panel".

However, you can also live with that message, if it does not bother you too much, so to make sure you don't miss any other Spring Boot metadata messages you may be interested in.

Python Timezone conversion

Please note: The first part of this answer is or version 1.x of pendulum. See below for a version 2.x answer.

I hope I'm not too late!

The pendulum library excels at this and other date-time calculations.

>>> import pendulum
>>> some_time_zones = ['Europe/Paris', 'Europe/Moscow', 'America/Toronto', 'UTC', 'Canada/Pacific', 'Asia/Macao']
>>> heres_a_time = '1996-03-25 12:03 -0400'
>>> pendulum_time = pendulum.datetime.strptime(heres_a_time, '%Y-%m-%d %H:%M %z')
>>> for tz in some_time_zones:
...     tz, pendulum_time.astimezone(tz)
...
('Europe/Paris', <Pendulum [1996-03-25T17:03:00+01:00]>)
('Europe/Moscow', <Pendulum [1996-03-25T19:03:00+03:00]>)
('America/Toronto', <Pendulum [1996-03-25T11:03:00-05:00]>)
('UTC', <Pendulum [1996-03-25T16:03:00+00:00]>)
('Canada/Pacific', <Pendulum [1996-03-25T08:03:00-08:00]>)
('Asia/Macao', <Pendulum [1996-03-26T00:03:00+08:00]>)

Answer lists the names of the time zones that may be used with pendulum. (They're the same as for pytz.)

For version 2:

  • some_time_zones is a list of the names of the time zones that might be used in a program
  • heres_a_time is a sample time, complete with a time zone in the form '-0400'
  • I begin by converting the time to a pendulum time for subsequent processing
  • now I can show what this time is in each of the time zones in show_time_zones

...

>>> import pendulum
>>> some_time_zones = ['Europe/Paris', 'Europe/Moscow', 'America/Toronto', 'UTC', 'Canada/Pacific', 'Asia/Macao']
>>> heres_a_time = '1996-03-25 12:03 -0400'
>>> pendulum_time = pendulum.from_format('1996-03-25 12:03 -0400', 'YYYY-MM-DD hh:mm ZZ')
>>> for tz in some_time_zones:
...     tz, pendulum_time.in_tz(tz)
...
('Europe/Paris', DateTime(1996, 3, 25, 17, 3, 0, tzinfo=Timezone('Europe/Paris')))
('Europe/Moscow', DateTime(1996, 3, 25, 19, 3, 0, tzinfo=Timezone('Europe/Moscow')))
('America/Toronto', DateTime(1996, 3, 25, 11, 3, 0, tzinfo=Timezone('America/Toronto')))
('UTC', DateTime(1996, 3, 25, 16, 3, 0, tzinfo=Timezone('UTC')))
('Canada/Pacific', DateTime(1996, 3, 25, 8, 3, 0, tzinfo=Timezone('Canada/Pacific')))
('Asia/Macao', DateTime(1996, 3, 26, 0, 3, 0, tzinfo=Timezone('Asia/Macao')))

XAMPP PORT 80 is Busy / EasyPHP error in Apache configuration file:

Only one process can use port 80 at a time. Port 80 is the default port for web servers, so when you navigate to websites over HTTP, you are actually navigating to that server's port 80 by default (when you use HTTPS, the port is 443).

You can try to hunt down all the programs that are running on port 80, but there's an easier way that will work for development. When running XAMPP, click "Config" under "Apache". Replace Listen 80 with Listen 8080 and ServerName localhost:80 to ServerName localhost:8080.

Then, when you want to look at your masterpiece, navigate to http://localhost:8080 in your browser.

Gerrit error when Change-Id in commit messages are missing

I got this error message too.

and what makes me think it is useful to give an answer here is that the answer from @Rafal Rawicki is a good solution in some cases but not for all circumstances. example that i met:

1.run "git log" we can get the HEAD commit change-id

2.we also can get a 'HEAD' commit change-id on Gerrit website.

3.they are different ,which makes us can not push successfully and get the "missing change-id error"

solution:

0.'git add .'

1.save your HEAD commit change-id got from 'git log',it will be used later.

2.copy the HEAD commit change-id from Gerrit website.

3.'git reset HEAD'

4.'git commit --amend' and copy the change-id from **Gerrit website** to the commit message in the last paragraph(replace previous change-id)

5.'git push *' you can push successfully now but can not find the HEAD commit from **git log** on Gerrit website too

6.'git reset HEAD'

7.'git commit --amend' and copy the change-id from **git log**(we saved in step 1) to the commit message in the last paragraph(replace previous change-id)

8.'git push *' you can find the HEAD commit from **git log** on Gerrit website,they have the same change-id

9.done

TOMCAT - HTTP Status 404

You don't have to use Tomcat installation as a server location. It is much easier just to copy the files in the ROOT folder.

Eclipse forgets to copy the default apps (ROOT, examples, etc.) when it creates a Tomcat folder inside the Eclipse workspace. Go to C:\apache-tomcat-7.0.8\webapps, R-click on the ROOT folder and copy it. Then go to your Eclipse workspace, go to the .metadata folder, and search for "wtpwebapps". You should find something like your-eclipse-workspace\.metadata\.plugins\org.eclipse.wst.server.core\tmp0\wtpwebapps (or ../tmp1/wtpwebapps if you already had another server registered in Eclipse). Go to the wtpwebapps folder, R-click, and paste ROOT (say "yes" if asked if you want to merge/replace folders/files). Then reload http://localhost/ to see the Tomcat welcome page.

How to get Printer Info in .NET?

As an alternative to WMI you can get fast accurate results by tapping in to WinSpool.drv (i.e. Windows API) - you can get all the details on the interfaces, structs & constants from pinvoke.net, or I've put the code together at http://delradiesdev.blogspot.com/2012/02/accessing-printer-status-using-winspool.html
