Error: [ng:areq] from angular controller

I had done everything right other than setting controller in $stateProvider. I used filename rather than variable name.

Following code is wrong:

formApp.config(function($stateProvider, $urlRouterProvider) {

    $stateProvider

       .state('management', {
            url: '/management',
            templateUrl: 'Views/management.html',
            controller: 'Controllers/ManagementController.js'
        });

and this is the right approach;

formApp.config(function($stateProvider, $urlRouterProvider) {

    $stateProvider

       .state('management', {
            url: '/management',
            templateUrl: 'Views/management.html',
            controller: 'ManagementController'
        });

Make sure you noticed;

controller: 'ManagementController'

And for those who are curious about my controller file ManagementController.js, it looks like the this;

formApp.controller('ManagementController', ['$scope', '$http', '$filter', '$state',function(scope, http, filter, state) {
    scope.testFunc = function() {
        scope.managementMsg  = "Controller Works Fine.";
    };
}]);

View list of all JavaScript variables in Google Chrome Console

Type the following statement in the javascript console:

debugger

Now you can inspect the global scope using the normal debug tools.

To be fair, you'll get everything in the window scope, including browser built-ins, so it might be sort of a needle-in-a-haystack experience. :/

PHP: If internet explorer 6, 7, 8 , or 9

You can check the HTTP_USER_AGENT server variable. The user agent transfered by IE contains MSIE

if(strpos($_SERVER['HTTP_USER_AGENT'], 'MSIE') !== false) { ... }

For specific versions you can extend your condition

if(strpos($_SERVER['HTTP_USER_AGENT'], 'MSIE 6.') !== false) { ... }

How to POST the data from a modal form of Bootstrap?

I was facing same issue not able to post form without ajax. but found solution , hope it can help and someones time.

<form name="paymentitrform" id="paymentitrform" class="payment"
                    method="post"

ng-if check if array is empty

In my experience, doing this on the HTML template proved difficult so I decided to use an event to call a function on TS and then check the condition. If true make condition equals to true and then use that variable on the ngIf on HTML

    emptyClause(array:any) {

        if (array.length === 0) {
            // array empty or does not exist

            this.emptyMessage=false;

    }else{

            this.emptyMessage=true;
        }
}

HTML

        <div class="row">

        <form>
            <div class="col-md-1 col-sm-1 col-xs-1"></div>
            <div class="col-md-10 col-sm-10 col-xs-10">
        <div [hidden]="emptyMessage" class="alert alert-danger">

            No Clauses Have Been Identified For the Search Criteria

        </div>
            </div>
            <div class="col-md-1 col-sm-1 col-xs-1"></div>
        </form>

using extern template (C++11)

If you have used extern for functions before, exactly same philosophy is followed for templates. if not, going though extern for simple functions may help. Also, you may want to put the extern(s) in header file and include the header when you need it.

Return None if Dictionary key is not available

You should use the get() method from the dict class

d = {}
r = d.get('missing_key', None)

This will result in r == None. If the key isn't found in the dictionary, the get function returns the second argument.

ORACLE convert number to string

Using the FM format model modifier to get close, as you won't get the trailing zeros after the decimal separator; but you will still get the separator itself, e.g. 50.. You can use rtrim to get rid of that:

select to_char(a, '99D90'),
    to_char(a, '90D90'),
    to_char(a, 'FM90D99'),
    rtrim(to_char(a, 'FM90D99'), to_char(0, 'D'))
from (
    select 50 a from dual
    union all select 50.57 from dual
    union all select 5.57 from dual
    union all select 0.35 from dual
    union all select 0.4 from dual
)
order by a;

TO_CHA TO_CHA TO_CHA RTRIM(
------ ------ ------ ------
   .35   0.35 0.35   0.35
   .40   0.40 0.4    0.4
  5.57   5.57 5.57   5.57
 50.00  50.00 50.    50
 50.57  50.57 50.57  50.57

Note that I'm using to_char(0, 'D') to generate the character to trim, to match the decimal separator - so it looks for the same character, , or ., as the first to_char adds.

The slight downside is that you lose the alignment. If this is being used elsewhere it might not matter, but it does then you can also wrap it in an lpad, which starts to make it look a bit complicated:

...
lpad(rtrim(to_char(a, 'FM90D99'), to_char(0, 'D')), 6)
...

TO_CHA TO_CHA TO_CHA RTRIM( LPAD(RTRIM(TO_CHAR(A,'FM
------ ------ ------ ------ ------------------------
   .35   0.35 0.35   0.35     0.35
   .40   0.40 0.4    0.4       0.4
  5.57   5.57 5.57   5.57     5.57
 50.00  50.00 50.    50         50
 50.57  50.57 50.57  50.57   50.57

Do I need a content-type header for HTTP GET requests?

GET requests can have "Accept" headers, which say which types of content the client understands. The server can then use that to decide which content type to send back.

They're optional though.

How does one set up the Visual Studio Code compiler/debugger to GCC?

For Windows:

  1. Install MinGW or Dev C++
  2. Open Environment Variables
  3. In System Variable select Path -> Edit -> New
  4. Copy this C:\Program Files (x86)\Dev-Cpp\MinGW64\bin to the New window. (If you have MinGW installed copy its /bin path).
  5. To check if you have added it successfully: Open CMD -> Type "gcc" and it should return: gcc: fatal error: no input files compilation terminated.
  6. Install C/C++ for Visual Studio Code && C/C++ Compile Run || Code Runner
  7. If you installed only C/C++ Compile Run extension you can compile your program using F6/F7
  8. If you installed the second extension you can compile your program using the button in the top bar.

How do I get a platform-dependent new line character?

In addition to the line.separator property, if you are using java 1.5 or later and the String.format (or other formatting methods) you can use %n as in

Calendar c = ...;
String s = String.format("Duke's Birthday: %1$tm %1$te,%1$tY%n", c);
//Note `%n` at end of line                                  ^^

String s2 = String.format("Use %%n as a platform independent newline.%n");
//         %% becomes %        ^^
//                                        and `%n` becomes newline   ^^

See the Java 1.8 API for Formatter for more details.

How to access the elements of a function's return array?

here is the best way in a similar function

 function cart_stats($cart_id){

$sql = "select sum(price) sum_bids, count(*) total_bids from carts_bids where cart_id = '$cart_id'";
$rs = mysql_query($sql);
$row = mysql_fetch_object($rs);
$total_bids = $row->total_bids;
$sum_bids = $row->sum_bids;
$avarage = $sum_bids/$total_bids;

 $array["total_bids"] = "$total_bids";
 $array["avarage"] = " $avarage";

 return $array;
}

and you get the array data like this

$data = cart_stats($_GET['id']);
<?=$data['total_bids']?>

Which HTTP methods match up to which CRUD methods?

POST            Creates a new resource.

PUT             Updates an existing resource.
DELETE          Deletes a resource.

What causes and what are the differences between NoClassDefFoundError and ClassNotFoundException?

NoClassDefFoundError is a linkage error basically. It occurs when you try and instantiate an object (statically with "new") and it's not found when it was during compilation.

ClassNotFoundException is more general and is a runtime exception when you try to use a class that doesn't exist. For example, you have a parameter in a function accepts an interface and someone passes in a class that implements that interface but you don't have access to the class. It also covers case of dynamic class loading, such as using loadClass() or Class.forName().

How to align linearlayout to vertical center?

Change orientation and gravity in

<LinearLayout
    android:id="@+id/groupNumbers"
    android:orientation="horizontal"
    android:gravity="center_vertical"
    android:layout_weight="0.7"
    android:layout_width="wrap_content"
    android:layout_height="wrap_content">

to

android:orientation="vertical"
android:layout_gravity="center_vertical"

You are adding orientation: horizontal, so the layout will contain all elements in single horizontal line. Which won't allow you to get the element in center.

Hope this helps.

Install dependencies globally and locally using package.json

Due to the disadvantages described below, I would recommend following the accepted answer:

Use npm install --save-dev [package_name] then execute scripts with:

$ npm run lint
$ npm run build
$ npm test

My original but not recommended answer follows.

Instead of using a global install, you could add the package to your devDependencies (--save-dev) and then run the binary from anywhere inside your project:

"$(npm bin)/<executable_name>" <arguments>...

In your case:

"$(npm bin)"/node.io --help

This engineer provided an npm-exec alias as a shortcut. This engineer uses a shellscript called env.sh. But I prefer to use $(npm bin) directly, to avoid any extra file or setup.

Although it makes each call a little larger, it should just work, preventing:

  • potential dependency conflicts with global packages (@nalply)
  • the need for sudo
  • the need to set up an npm prefix (although I recommend using one anyway)

Disadvantages:

  • $(npm bin) won't work on Windows.
  • Tools deeper in your dev tree will not appear in the npm bin folder. (Install npm-run or npm-which to find them.)

It seems a better solution is to place common tasks (such as building and minifying) in the "scripts" section of your package.json, as Jason demonstrates above.

jQuery bind to Paste Event, how to get the content of the paste

On modern browsers it's easy: just use the input event along with the inputType attribute:

$(document).on('input', 'input, textarea', function(e){
  if (e.originalEvent.inputType == 'insertFromPaste') {
    alert($(this).val());
  }
});

Can I load a .NET assembly at runtime and instantiate a type knowing only the name?

Yes, it is, you will want to use the static Load method on the Assembly class, and then call then call the CreateInstance method on the Assembly instance returned to you from the call to Load.

Also, you can call one of the other static methods starting with "Load" on the Assembly class, depending on your needs.

How do I create a local database inside of Microsoft SQL Server 2014?

Warning! SQL Server 14 Express, SQL Server Management Studio, and SQL 2014 LocalDB are separate downloads, make sure you actually installed SQL Server and not just the Management Studio! SQL Server 14 express with LocalDB download link

Youtube video about entire process.
Writeup with pictures about installing SQL Server

How to select a local server:

When you are asked to connect to a 'database server' right when you open up SQL Server Management Studio do this:

1) Make sure you have Server Type: Database

2) Make sure you have Authentication: Windows Authentication (no username & password)

3) For the server name field look to the right and select the drop down arrow, click 'browse for more'

4) New window pops up 'Browse for Servers', make sure to pick 'Local Servers' tab and under 'Database Engine' you will have the local server you set up during installation of SQL Server 14

How do I create a local database inside of Microsoft SQL Server 2014?

1) After you have connected to a server, bring up the Object Explorer toolbar under 'View' (Should open by default)

2) Now simply right click on 'Databases' and then 'Create new Database' to be taken through the database creation tools!

How do I fix the indentation of an entire file in Vi?

1G=G. That should indent all the lines in the file. 1G takes you the first line, = will start the auto-indent and the final G will take you the last line in the file.

Query to list number of records in each table in a database

The first thing that came to mind was to use sp_msForEachTable

exec sp_msforeachtable 'select count(*) from ?'

that does not list the table names though, so it can be extended to

exec sp_msforeachtable 'select parsename(''?'', 1), count(*) from ?'

The problem here is that if the database has more than 100 tables you will get the following error message:

The query has exceeded the maximum number of result sets that can be displayed in the results grid. Only the first 100 result sets are displayed in the grid.

So I ended up using table variable to store the results

declare @stats table (n sysname, c int)
insert into @stats
    exec sp_msforeachtable 'select parsename(''?'', 1), count(*) from ?'
select
    *
from @stats
order by c desc

How to create a DB for MongoDB container on start up?

If you are looking to remove usernames and passwords from your docker-compose.yml you can use Docker Secrets, here is how I have approached it.

version: '3.6'

services:
  db:
    image: mongo:3
    container_name: mycontainer
  secrets:
    - MONGO_INITDB_ROOT_USERNAME
    - MONGO_INITDB_ROOT_PASSWORD
  environment:
    - MONGO_INITDB_ROOT_USERNAME_FILE=/var/run/secrets/MONGO_INITDB_ROOT_USERNAME
    - MONGO_INITDB_ROOT_PASSWORD_FILE=/var/run/secrets/MONGO_INITDB_ROOT_PASSWORD
secrets:
  MONGO_INITDB_ROOT_USERNAME:
    file:  secrets/${NODE_ENV}_mongo_root_username.txt
  MONGO_INITDB_ROOT_PASSWORD:
    file:  secrets/${NODE_ENV}_mongo_root_password.txt

I have use the file: option for my secrets however, you can also use external: and use the secrets in a swarm.

The secrets are available to any script in the container at /var/run/secrets

The Docker documentation has this to say about storing sensitive data...

https://docs.docker.com/engine/swarm/secrets/

You can use secrets to manage any sensitive data which a container needs at runtime but you don’t want to store in the image or in source control, such as:

Usernames and passwords TLS certificates and keys SSH keys Other important data such as the name of a database or internal server Generic strings or binary content (up to 500 kb in size)

What's the best way to convert a number to a string in JavaScript?

I like the first two since they're easier to read. I tend to use String(n) but it is just a matter of style than anything else.

That is unless you have a line as

var n = 5;
console.log ("the number is: " + n);

which is very self explanatory

adb shell su works but adb root does not

You need to replace the adbd binary in the boot.img/sbin/ folder to one that is su capable. You will also have to make some default.prop edits too.

Samsung seems to make this more difficult than other vendors. I have some adbd binaries you can try but it will require the knowledge of de-compiling and re-compiling the boot.img with the new binary. Also, if you have a locked bootloader... this is not gonna happen.

Also Chainfire has an app that will grant adbd root permission in the play store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.adbd&hl=en

Lastly, if you are trying to write a windows script with SU permissions you can do this buy using the following command style... However, you will at least need to grant (on the phone) SU permissions the frist time its ran...

adb shell "su -c ls" <-list working directory with su rights. adb shell "su -c echo anytext > /data/test.file"

These are just some examples. If you state specifically what you are trying to accomplish I may be able to give more specific advice

Is there an easy way to check the .NET Framework version?

Not sure why nobody suggested following the official advice from Microsoft right here.

This is the code they recommend. Sure it's ugly, but it works.

For .NET 1-4

private static void GetVersionFromRegistry()
{
     // Opens the registry key for the .NET Framework entry.
        using (RegistryKey ndpKey =
            RegistryKey.OpenRemoteBaseKey(RegistryHive.LocalMachine, "").
            OpenSubKey(@"SOFTWARE\Microsoft\NET Framework Setup\NDP\"))
        {
            // As an alternative, if you know the computers you will query are running .NET Framework 4.5
            // or later, you can use:
            // using (RegistryKey ndpKey = RegistryKey.OpenBaseKey(RegistryHive.LocalMachine,
            // RegistryView.Registry32).OpenSubKey(@"SOFTWARE\Microsoft\NET Framework Setup\NDP\"))
        foreach (string versionKeyName in ndpKey.GetSubKeyNames())
        {
            if (versionKeyName.StartsWith("v"))
            {

                RegistryKey versionKey = ndpKey.OpenSubKey(versionKeyName);
                string name = (string)versionKey.GetValue("Version", "");
                string sp = versionKey.GetValue("SP", "").ToString();
                string install = versionKey.GetValue("Install", "").ToString();
                if (install == "") //no install info, must be later.
                    Console.WriteLine(versionKeyName + "  " + name);
                else

                    }

                }

                {
                    continue;

                        }

                    }

Get difference between two lists

I wanted something that would take two lists and could do what diff in bash does. Since this question pops up first when you search for "python diff two lists" and is not very specific, I will post what I came up with.

Using SequenceMather from difflib you can compare two lists like diff does. None of the other answers will tell you the position where the difference occurs, but this one does. Some answers give the difference in only one direction. Some reorder the elements. Some don't handle duplicates. But this solution gives you a true difference between two lists:

a = 'A quick fox jumps the lazy dog'.split()
b = 'A quick brown mouse jumps over the dog'.split()

from difflib import SequenceMatcher

for tag, i, j, k, l in SequenceMatcher(None, a, b).get_opcodes():
  if tag == 'equal': print('both have', a[i:j])
  if tag in ('delete', 'replace'): print(' 1st has', a[i:j])
  if tag in ('insert', 'replace'): print(' 2nd has', b[k:l])

This outputs:

both have ['A', 'quick']
  1st has ['fox']
  2nd has ['brown', 'mouse']
both have ['jumps']
  2nd has ['over']
both have ['the']
  1st has ['lazy']
both have ['dog']

Of course, if your application makes the same assumptions the other answers make, you will benefit from them the most. But if you are looking for a true diff functionality, then this is the only way to go.

For example, none of the other answers could handle:

a = [1,2,3,4,5]
b = [5,4,3,2,1]

But this one does:

  2nd has [5, 4, 3, 2]
both have [1]
  1st has [2, 3, 4, 5]

SVN: Is there a way to mark a file as "do not commit"?

I got tired of waiting for this to get built into SVN. I was using tortoiseSVN with ignore-on-commit, but that pops up a user dialog box that you can't suppress from the command line, and when I run my build script and go and make a cup of tea, I hate it when I come back to discover it's waiting for user input 10% of the way through.

So here's a windows powershell script that commits only files that aren't in a changelist:

# get list of changed files into targets
[XML]$svnStatus = svn st -q --xml C:\SourceCode\Monad
# select the nodes that aren't in a changelist
$fileList = $svnStatus.SelectNodes('/status/target/entry[wc-status/@item != "unversioned"]') | Foreach-Object {$_.path};
# create a temp file of targets
$fileListPath =  [IO.Path]::GetTempFileName();
$fileList | out-file $fileListPath -Encoding ASCII
# do the commit
svn commit --targets $fileListPath -m "Publish $version" --keep-changelists
# remove the temp file
Remove-Item $filelistPath

Expected BEGIN_ARRAY but was BEGIN_OBJECT at line 1 column 2

You state in the comments that the returned JSON is this:

{
  "dstOffset" : 3600,
  "rawOffset" : 36000,
  "status" : "OK",
  "timeZoneId" : "Australia/Hobart",
  "timeZoneName" : "Australian Eastern Daylight Time"
}

You're telling Gson that you have an array of Post objects:

List<Post> postsList = Arrays.asList(gson.fromJson(reader,
                    Post[].class));

You don't. The JSON represents exactly one Post object, and Gson is telling you that.

Change your code to be:

Post post = gson.fromJson(reader, Post.class);

Execute a stored procedure in another stored procedure in SQL server

Yes , Its easy to way we call the function inside the store procedure.

for e.g. create user define Age function and use in select query.

select dbo.GetRegAge(R.DateOfBirth, r.RegistrationDate) as Age,R.DateOfBirth,r.RegistrationDate from T_Registration R

How to remove duplicates from Python list and keep order?

Laravel Eloquent "WHERE NOT IN"

The dynamic way of implement whereNotIn:

 $users = User::where('status',0)->get();
    foreach ($users as $user) {
                $data[] = $user->id;
            }
    $available = User::orderBy('name', 'DEC')->whereNotIn('id', $data)->get();

pip install: Please check the permissions and owner of that directory

I also saw this change on my Mac when I went from running pip to sudo pip. Adding -H to sudo causes the message to go away for me. E.g.

sudo -H pip install foo

man sudo tells me that -H causes sudo to set $HOME to the target users (root in this case).

So it appears pip is looking into $HOME/Library/Log and sudo by default isn't setting $HOME to /root/. Not surprisingly ~/Library/Log is owned by you as a user rather than root.

I suspect this is some recent change in pip. I'll run it with sudo -H for now to work around.

using nth-child in tables tr td

Current css version still doesn't support selector find by content. But there is a way, by using css selector find by attribute, but you have to put some identifier on all of the <td> that have $ inside. Example: using nth-child in tables tr td

html

<tr>
    <td>&nbsp;</td>
    <td data-rel='$'>$</td>
    <td>&nbsp;</td>
</tr>

css

table tr td[data-rel='$'] {
    background-color: #333;
    color: white;
}

Please try these example.

_x000D_
_x000D_
table tr td[data-content='$'] {_x000D_
    background-color: #333;_x000D_
    color: white;_x000D_
}
_x000D_
<table border="1">_x000D_
    <tr>_x000D_
        <td>A</td>_x000D_
        <td data-content='$'>$</td>_x000D_
        <td>B</td>_x000D_

How do I use Maven through a proxy?

I run cntlm localy, configured with NTLMv2 password hashes to authenticate with the corporate proxy, and use

export MAVEN_OPTS="-DproxyHost=127.0.0.1 -DproxyPort=3128"

to use that proxy from maven. Of course the proxy you use should support cntlm/NTLMv2.

how to download image from any web page in java

Xcode process launch failed: Security

Xcode is able to build and install the app, but isn't able to launch it the first time. You just need to tap on the app's icon on the phone, then you will be prompted to ask if you want to trust the developer. Allow it and the app will launch, then Xcode will be able to automatically install & launch this and your other apps.

Changing specific text's color using NSMutableAttributedString in Swift

Swift 4.2 and Swift 5 colorise parts of the string.

A very easy way to use NSMutableAttributedString while extending the String. This also can be used to colourize more than one word in the whole string.

Add new file for extensions, File -> New -> Swift File with name for ex. "NSAttributedString+TextColouring" and add the code

import UIKit

extension String {
    func attributedStringWithColor(_ strings: [String], color: UIColor, characterSpacing: UInt? = nil) -> NSAttributedString {
        let attributedString = NSMutableAttributedString(string: self)
        for string in strings {
            let range = (self as NSString).range(of: string)
            attributedString.addAttribute(NSAttributedString.Key.foregroundColor, value: color, range: range)
        }

        guard let characterSpacing = characterSpacing else {return attributedString}

        attributedString.addAttribute(NSAttributedString.Key.kern, value: characterSpacing, range: NSRange(location: 0, length: attributedString.length))

        return attributedString
    }
}

Now you can use globally at any viewcontroller you want:

let attributedWithTextColor: NSAttributedString = "Doc, welcome back :)".attributedStringWithColor(["Doc", "back"], color: UIColor.black)

myLabel.attributedText = attributedWithTextColor

How can I create an observable with a delay

What you want is a timer:

// RxJS v6+
import { timer } from 'rxjs';

//emit [1, 2, 3] after 1 second.
const source = timer(1000).map(([1, 2, 3]);
//output: [1, 2, 3]
const subscribe = source.subscribe(val => console.log(val));

How can I clear console

The easiest way would be to flush the stream multiple times ( ideally larger then any possible console ) 1024*1024 is likely a size no console window could ever be.

int main(int argc, char *argv)
{
  for(int i = 0; i <1024*1024; i++)
      std::cout << ' ' << std::endl;

  return 0;
}

The only problem with this is the software cursor; that blinking thing ( or non blinking thing ) depending on platform / console will be at the end of the console, opposed to the top of it. However this should never induce any trouble hopefully.

Easy way to make a confirmation dialog in Angular?

You could use sweetalert: https://sweetalert.js.org/guides/

npm install sweetalert --save

Then, simply import it into your application:

import swal from 'sweetalert';

If you pass two arguments, the first one will be the modal's title, and the second one its text.

swal("Here's the title!", "...and here's the text!");

How do you fix a bad merge, and replay your good commits onto a fixed merge?

This is the best way:

EDIT

The edit by Neon got unfortunately rejected during review.
See Neons post below, it might contain useful information!

E.g. to remove all *.gz files accidentally committed into git repository:

$ du -sh .git ==> e.g. 100M
$ git filter-branch --index-filter 'git rm --cached --ignore-unmatch *.gz' HEAD
$ git push origin master --force
$ rm -rf .git/refs/original/
$ git reflog expire --expire=now --all
$ git gc --prune=now
$ git gc --aggressive --prune=now

That still didn't work for me? (I am currently at git version 1.7.6.1)

$ du -sh .git ==> e.g. 100M

Not sure why, since I only had ONE master branch. Anyways, I finally got my git repo truely cleaned up by pushing into a new empty and bare git repository, e.g.

$ git init --bare /path/to/newcleanrepo.git
$ git push /path/to/newcleanrepo.git master
$ du -sh /path/to/newcleanrepo.git ==> e.g. 5M

(yes!)

Then I clone that to a new directory and moved over it's .git folder into this one. e.g.

$ mv .git ../large_dot_git
$ git clone /path/to/newcleanrepo.git ../tmpdir
$ mv ../tmpdir/.git .
$ du -sh .git ==> e.g. 5M

(yeah! finally cleaned up!)

After verifying that all is well, then you can delete the ../large_dot_git and ../tmpdir directories (maybe in a couple weeks or month from now, just in case...)

How to assign a heredoc value to a variable in Bash?

I found myself having to read a string with NULL in it, so here is a solution that will read anything you throw at it. Although if you actually are dealing with NULL, you will need to deal with that at the hex level.

$ cat > read.dd.sh

read.dd() {
     buf=
     while read; do
        buf+=$REPLY
     done < <( dd bs=1 2>/dev/null | xxd -p )

     printf -v REPLY '%b' $( sed 's/../ \\\x&/g' <<< $buf )
}

Proof:

$ . read.dd.sh
$ read.dd < read.dd.sh
$ echo -n "$REPLY" > read.dd.sh.copy
$ diff read.dd.sh read.dd.sh.copy || echo "File are different"
$

HEREDOC example (with ^J, ^M, ^I):

$ read.dd <<'HEREDOC'
>       (TAB)
>       (SPACES)
(^J)^M(^M)
> DONE
>
> HEREDOC

$ declare -p REPLY
declare -- REPLY="  (TAB)
      (SPACES)
(^M)
DONE

"

$ declare -p REPLY | xxd

    // translate UTF8 to English characters
    $data = iconv('UTF-8', 'ASCII//TRANSLIT', $data);
    $data = preg_replace("/[\'\"\^\~\`]/i", '', $data);

    // fill it up with spaces

What is the proper way to URL encode Unicode characters?

IRIs do not replace URIs, because only URIs (effectively, ASCII) are permissible in some contexts -- including HTTP.

Instead, you specify an IRI and it gets transformed into a URI when going out on the wire.

Is there a splice method for strings?

Edit

This is of course not the best way to "splice" a string, I had given this as an example of how the implementation would be, which is flawed and very evident from a split(), splice() and join(). For a far better implementation, see Louis's method.

No, there is no such thing as a String.splice, but you can try this:

newStr = str.split(''); // or newStr = [...str];
newStr.splice(2,5);
newStr = newStr.join('');

I realise there is no splice function as in Arrays, so you have to convert the string into an array. Hard luck...

Cannot deserialize the JSON array (e.g. [1,2,3]) into type ' ' because type requires JSON object (e.g. {"name":"value"}) to deserialize correctly

Your json string is wrapped within square brackets ([]), hence it is interpreted as array instead of single RetrieveMultipleResponse object. Therefore, you need to deserialize it to type collection of RetrieveMultipleResponse, for example :

var objResponse1 =
    JsonConvert.DeserializeObject<List<RetrieveMultipleResponse>>(JsonStr);

Best Practice for Forcing Garbage Collection in C#

One more thing, triggering GC Collect explicitly may NOT improve your program's performance. It is quite possible to make it worse.

The .NET GC is well designed and tuned to be adaptive, which means it can adjust GC0/1/2 threshold according to the "habit" of your program memory usage. So, it will be adapted to your program after some time running. Once you invoke GC.Collect explicitly, the thresholds will be reset! And the .NET has to spent time to adapt to your program's "habit" again.

My suggestion is always trust .NET GC. Any memory problem surfaces, check ".NET Memory" performance counter and diagnose my own code.

Any way to make plot points in scatterplot more transparent in R?

Transparency can be coded in the color argument as well. It is just two more hex numbers coding a transparency between 0 (fully transparent) and 255 (fully visible). I once wrote this function to add transparency to a color vector, maybe it is usefull here?

addTrans <- function(color,trans)
{
  # This function adds transparancy to a color.
  # Define transparancy with an integer between 0 and 255
  # 0 being fully transparant and 255 being fully visable
  # Works with either color and trans a vector of equal length,
  # or one of the two of length 1.

  if (length(color)!=length(trans)&!any(c(length(color),length(trans))==1)) stop("Vector lengths not correct")
  if (length(color)==1 & length(trans)>1) color <- rep(color,length(trans))
  if (length(trans)==1 & length(color)>1) trans <- rep(trans,length(color))

  num2hex <- function(x)
  {
    hex <- unlist(strsplit("0123456789ABCDEF",split=""))
    return(paste(hex[(x-x%%16)/16+1],hex[x%%16+1],sep=""))
  }
  rgb <- rbind(col2rgb(color),trans)
  res <- paste("#",apply(apply(rgb,2,num2hex),2,paste,collapse=""),sep="")
  return(res)
}

Some examples:

cols <- sample(c("red","green","pink"),100,TRUE)

# Fully visable:
plot(rnorm(100),rnorm(100),col=cols,pch=16,cex=4)

# Somewhat transparant:
plot(rnorm(100),rnorm(100),col=addTrans(cols,200),pch=16,cex=4)

# Very transparant:
plot(rnorm(100),rnorm(100),col=addTrans(cols,100),pch=16,cex=4)

Adding a caption to an equation in LaTeX

The \caption command is restricted to floats: you will need to place the equation in a figure or table environment (or a new kind of floating environment). For example:

\begin{figure}
\[ E = m c^2 \]
\caption{A famous equation}
\end{figure}

The point of floats is that you let LaTeX determine their placement. If you want to equation to appear in a fixed position, don't use a float. The \captionof command of the caption package can be used to place a caption outside of a floating environment. It is used like this:

\[ E = m c^2 \]
\captionof{figure}{A famous equation}

This will also produce an entry for the \listoffigures, if your document has one.

To align parts of an equation, take a look at the eqnarray environment, or some of the environments of the amsmath package: align, gather, multiline,...

How to fit a smooth curve to my data in R?

I like loess() a lot for smoothing:

x <- 1:10
y <- c(2,4,6,8,7,12,14,16,18,20)
lo <- loess(y~x)
plot(x,y)
lines(predict(lo), col='red', lwd=2)

Venables and Ripley's MASS book has an entire section on smoothing that also covers splines and polynomials -- but loess() is just about everybody's favourite.

it has a lot of functionality that you may find in their website.

the one that is related to this question is code digging

How can I pass arguments to anonymous functions in JavaScript?

Your specific case can simply be corrected to be working:

<script type="text/javascript">
  var myButton = document.getElementById("myButton");
  var myMessage = "it's working";
  myButton.onclick = function() { alert(myMessage); };
</script>

This example will work because the anonymous function created and assigned as a handler to element will have access to variables defined in the context where it was created.

For the record, a handler (that you assign through setting onxxx property) expects single argument to take that is event object being passed by the DOM, and you cannot force passing other argument in there

Sorting objects by property values

Here's a short example, that creates and array of objects, and sorts numerically or alphabetically:

// Create Objects Array

var arrayCarObjects = [
{brand: "Honda",        topSpeed: 45},
{brand: "Ford",         topSpeed: 6},
{brand: "Toyota",       topSpeed: 240},
{brand: "Chevrolet",    topSpeed: 120},
{brand: "Ferrari",      topSpeed: 1000}
];

// Sort Objects Numerically

arrayCarObjects.sort((a, b) => (a.topSpeed - b.topSpeed));

// Sort Objects Alphabetically

arrayCarObjects.sort((a, b) => (a.brand > b.brand) ? 1 : -1);

Java dynamic array sizes?

Yes, we can do this way.

import java.util.Scanner;

public class Collection_Basic {

    private static Scanner sc;

    public static void main(String[] args) {

        Object[] obj=new Object[4];
        sc = new Scanner(System.in);

        //Storing element
        System.out.println("enter your element");
        for(int i=0;i<4;i++){
            obj[i]=sc.nextInt();
        }

        /*
         * here, size reaches with its maximum capacity so u can not store more element,
         *
         * for storing more element we have to create new array Object with required size
         */

        Object[] tempObj=new Object[10];

        //copying old array to new Array

        int oldArraySize=obj.length;
        int i=0;
        for(;i<oldArraySize;i++){

            tempObj[i]=obj[i];
        }

        /*
         * storing new element to the end of new Array objebt
         */
        tempObj[i]=90;

        //assigning new array Object refeence to the old one

        obj=tempObj;

        for(int j=0;j<obj.length;j++){
            System.out.println("obj["+j+"] -"+obj[j]);
        }
    }

}

Using multiple parameters in URL in express

app.get('/fruit/:fruitName/:fruitColor', function(req, res) {
    var data = {
        "fruit": {
            "apple": req.params.fruitName,
            "color": req.params.fruitColor
        }
    };

    send.json(data);
});

If that doesn't work, try using console.log(req.params) to see what it is giving you.

When should I use the Visitor Design Pattern?

While I have understood the how and when, I have never understood the why. In case it helps anyone with a background in a language like C++, you want to read this very carefully.

For the lazy, we use the visitor pattern because "while virtual functions are dispatched dynamically in C++, function overloading is done statically".

Or, put another way, to make sure that CollideWith(ApolloSpacecraft&) is called when you pass in a SpaceShip reference that is actually bound to an ApolloSpacecraft object.

class SpaceShip {};
class ApolloSpacecraft : public SpaceShip {};
class ExplodingAsteroid : public Asteroid {
public:
  virtual void CollideWith(SpaceShip&) {
    cout << "ExplodingAsteroid hit a SpaceShip" << endl;
  }
  virtual void CollideWith(ApolloSpacecraft&) {
    cout << "ExplodingAsteroid hit an ApolloSpacecraft" << endl;
  }
}

Thanks to @nekno and @ale84 for great answers.

However, I modified @ale84's script it little to increment build numbers for floating point.

the value of incl can be changed according to your floating format requirements. For eg: if incl = .01, output format would be ... 1.19, 1.20, 1.21 ...

buildNumber=$(/usr/libexec/PlistBuddy -c "Print CFBundleVersion" "$INFOPLIST_FILE")
incl=.01
buildNumber=`echo $buildNumber + $incl|bc`
/usr/libexec/PlistBuddy -c "Set :CFBundleVersion $buildNumber" "$INFOPLIST_FILE"

bash string equality

There's no difference, == is a synonym for = (for the C/C++ people, I assume). See here, for example.

You could double-check just to be really sure or just for your interest by looking at the bash source code, should be somewhere in the parsing code there, but I couldn't find it straightaway.

Signtool error: No certificates were found that met all given criteria with a Windows Store App?

I have had this issue too, tried a lot. Used SDK as well as Visual Studio signing, but everywhere I got "No certificates were found that met all the given criteria".

Solution: Be aware that, if "after private key filter": '0 left' shows up with option signtool sign /debug..., the cause is your PC doesn't has the CA itself in the store. To solve this, install the CA first (in my case a .crt file), then run the sign again. It should work right now!

Signtool only can be used with a CA which is requested ánd owned by the same PC.

How to redirect Valgrind's output to a file?

You can also set the options --log-fd if you just want to read your logs with a less. For example :

valgrind --log-fd=1 ls | less

CSS pseudo elements in React

Depending if you only need a couple attributes to be styled inline you can do something like this solution (and saves you from having to install a special package or create an extra element):

https://stackoverflow.com/a/42000085

<span class="something" datacustomattribute="">
  Hello
</span>
.something::before {
  content: attr(datascustomattribute);
  position: absolute;
}

Note that the datacustomattribute must start with data and be all lowercase to satisfy React.

How to set layout_gravity programmatically?

Perfectly Working!!! None of the above answer works for me. In Xml file setting gravity and setting layout_gravity is different. Check out the below code

// here messageLL is the linear layout in the xml file
// Before adding any view just remove all views
   messageLL.removeAllViews();
// FrameLayout is the parent for LinearLayout
FrameLayout.LayoutParams params = new
   FrameLayout.LayoutParams(ViewGroup.LayoutParams.MATCH_PARENT, ViewGroup.LayoutParams.MATCH_PARENT);
   params.gravity = Gravity.CENTER|Gravity.CENTER_VERTICAL;
   messageLL.setLayoutParams(params);
   messageText.setVisibility(View.GONE);
   messageNoText.setVisibility(View.VISIBLE);
   messageLL.addView(messageNoText);

Also check This,where you can find clear explanation about gravity and layout_gravity .

ERROR Error: No value accessor for form control with unspecified name attribute on switch

In my case it was as daft as having registered the new component for DI in my app.module.ts declarations but not in exports.

IIs Error: Application Codebehind=“Global.asax.cs” Inherits=“nadeem.MvcApplication”

Solved, just renamed the Global.asax or delete it fixed the problem :/

Other known related bugs I found on the web:

  1. Global.asax.cs: must inherit from HttpApplication -> public class MvcApplication : HttpApplication
  2. Project output must be the bin folder and not Bin/Debug, etc.
  3. Iss application pool is not in the correct .net version.

Copy files without overwrite

I just want to clarify something from my own testing.

@Hydrargyrum wrote:

  • /XN excludes existing files newer than the copy in the source directory. Robocopy normally overwrites those.
  • /XO excludes existing files older than the copy in the source directory. Robocopy normally overwrites those.

This is actually backwards. XN does "eXclude Newer" files but it excludes files that are newer than the copy in the destination directory. XO does "eXclude Older", but it excludes files that are older than the copy in the destination directory.

Of course do your own testing as always.

Setting std=c99 flag in GCC

Instead of calling /usr/bin/gcc, use /usr/bin/c99. This is the Single-Unix-approved way of invoking a C99 compiler. On an Ubuntu system, this points to a script which invokes gcc after having added the -std=c99 flag, which is precisely what you want.

How do I fix a Git detached head?

The detached HEAD means that you are currently not on any branch. If you want to KEEP your current changes and simply create a new branch, this is what you do:

git commit -m "your commit message"
git checkout -b new_branch

Afterwards, you potentially want to merge this new branch with other branches. Always helpful is the git "a dog" command:

git log --all --decorate --oneline --graph

How to install the Six module in Python2.7

here's what six is:

pip search six
six - Python 2 and 3 compatibility utilities

to install:

though if you did install python-dateutil from pip six should have been set as a dependency.

N.B.: to install pip run easy_install pip from command line.

How to undo "git commit --amend" done instead of "git commit"

You can always split a commit, From the manual

  • Start an interactive rebase with git rebase -i commit^, where commit is the commit you want to split. In fact, any commit range will do, as long as it contains that commit.
  • Mark the commit you want to split with the action "edit".
  • When it comes to editing that commit, execute git reset HEAD^. The effect is that the HEAD is rewound by one, and the index follows suit. However, the working tree stays the same.
  • Now add the changes to the index that you want to have in the first commit. You can use git add (possibly interactively) or git-gui (or both) to do that.
  • Commit the now-current index with whatever commit message is appropriate now.
  • Repeat the last two steps until your working tree is clean.
  • Continue the rebase with git rebase --continue.

How to add a custom right-click menu to a webpage?

A combination of some nice CSS and some non-standard html tags with no external libraries can give a nice result (JSFiddle)

HTML

<menu id="ctxMenu">
    <menu title="File">
        <menu title="Save"></menu>
        <menu title="Save As"></menu>
        <menu title="Open"></menu>
    </menu>
    <menu title="Edit">
        <menu title="Cut"></menu>
        <menu title="Copy"></menu>
        <menu title="Paste"></menu>
    </menu>
</menu>

Note: the menu tag does not exist, I'm making it up (you can use anything)

CSS

#ctxMenu{
    display:none;
    z-index:100;
}
menu {
    position:absolute;
    display:block;
    left:0px;
    top:0px;
    height:20px;
    width:20px;
    padding:0;
    margin:0;
    border:1px solid;
    background-color:white;
    font-weight:normal;
    white-space:nowrap;
}
menu:hover{
    background-color:#eef;
    font-weight:bold;
}
menu:hover > menu{
    display:block;
}
menu > menu{
    display:none;
    position:relative;
    top:-20px;
    left:100%;
    width:55px;
}
menu[title]:before{
    content:attr(title);
}
menu:not([title]):before{
    content:"\2630";
}

The JavaScript is just for this example, I personally remove it for persistent menus on windows

var notepad = document.getElementById("notepad");
notepad.addEventListener("contextmenu",function(event){
    event.preventDefault();
    var ctxMenu = document.getElementById("ctxMenu");
    ctxMenu.style.display = "block";
    ctxMenu.style.left = (event.pageX - 10)+"px";
    ctxMenu.style.top = (event.pageY - 10)+"px";
},false);
notepad.addEventListener("click",function(event){
    var ctxMenu = document.getElementById("ctxMenu");
    ctxMenu.style.display = "";
    ctxMenu.style.left = "";
    ctxMenu.style.top = "";
},false);

Also note, you can potentially modify menu > menu{left:100%;} to menu > menu{right:100%;} for a menu that expands from right to left. You would need to add a margin or something somewhere though

Send a base64 image in HTML email

An alternative approach may be to embed images in the email using the cid method. (Basically including the image as an attachment, and then embedding it). In my experience, this approach seems to be well supported these days.

How to add an image to a JPanel?

I'm doing something very similar in a private project I'm working on. Thus far I've generated images up to 1024x1024 without any problems (except memory) and can display them very quickly and without any performance problems.

Overriding the paint method of JPanel subclass is overkill and requires more work than you need to do.

The way I do it is:

Class MapIcon implements Icon {...}

OR

Class MapIcon extends ImageIcon {...}

The code you use to generate the image will be in this class. I use a BufferedImage to draw onto then when the paintIcon() is called, use g.drawImvge(bufferedImage); This reduces the amount of flashing done while you generate your images, and you can thread it.

Next I extend JLabel:

Class MapLabel extends Scrollable, MouseMotionListener {...}

This is because I want to put my image on a scroll pane, I.e. display part of the image and have the user scroll around as needed.

So then I use a JScrollPane to hold the MapLabel, which contains only the MapIcon.

MapIcon map = new MapIcon ();
MapLabel mapLabel = new MapLabel (map);
JScrollPane scrollPane = new JScrollPane();

scrollPane.getViewport ().add (mapLabel);

But for your scenario (just show the whole image every time). You need to add the MapLabel to the top JPanel, and make sure to size them all to the full size of the image (by overriding the GetPreferredSize()).

Only Add Unique Item To List

//HashSet allows only the unique values to the list
HashSet<int> uniqueList = new HashSet<int>();

var a = uniqueList.Add(1);
var b = uniqueList.Add(2);
var c = uniqueList.Add(3);
var d = uniqueList.Add(2); // should not be added to the list but will not crash the app

//Dictionary allows only the unique Keys to the list, Values can be repeated
Dictionary<int, string> dict = new Dictionary<int, string>();

dict.Add(1,"Happy");
dict.Add(2, "Smile");
dict.Add(3, "Happy");
dict.Add(2, "Sad"); // should be failed // Run time error "An item with the same key has already been added." App will crash

//Dictionary allows only the unique Keys to the list, Values can be repeated
Dictionary<string, int> dictRev = new Dictionary<string, int>();

dictRev.Add("Happy", 1);
dictRev.Add("Smile", 2);
dictRev.Add("Happy", 3); // should be failed // Run time error "An item with the same key has already been added." App will crash
dictRev.Add("Sad", 2);

BeautifulSoup: extract text from anchor tag

        </div>
        <div class="image">
        <a href="http://www.example.com/eg2">Content2<img
        src="http://image.example.com/img2.jpg" /> </a>
        </div>'''

soup = BeautifulSoup(data)

for div in soup.findAll('div', attrs={'class':'image'}):
    print(div.find('a')['href'])
    print(div.find('a').contents[0])
    print(div.find('img')['src'])

How to redirect on another page and pass parameter in url from table?

Set the user name as data-username attribute to the button and also a class:

HTML

<input type="button" name="theButton" value="Detail" class="btn" data-username="{{result['username']}}" />

JS

$(document).on('click', '.btn', function() {

    var name = $(this).data('username');
    if (name != undefined && name != null) {
        window.location = '/player_detail?username=' + name;
    }
});?

EDIT:

Also, you can simply check for undefined && null using:

$(document).on('click', '.btn', function() {

    var name = $(this).data('username');
    if (name) {
        window.location = '/player_detail?username=' + name;
    }
});?

As, mentioned in this answer

if (name) {
}

will evaluate to true if value is not:

  • null
  • undefined
  • NaN
  • empty string ("")
  • 0
  • false

The above list represents all possible falsy values in ECMA/Javascript.

Is it possible to preview stash contents in git?

The following command can be used to extract diff of stashed change againest any other stash or commit or branch or HEAD.

git stash show
git show
git diff
git difftool

Let’s see, how we can use each of the above mentioned commands.

  1. git stash show

The simple command git stash show gives very brief summary of changes of file, but will not show the diff of changes against current HEAD.

  1. git show

The command git-show is used to see various types of objects.

The command git-show is not only used to visualize stash changes, but also used to see one or more objects like blobs, trees, tags and commits.

  1. git diff

The command git-diff is also one of common command which is used to show changes between commits, commit and working tree, etc.

By default, git diff will show the diff of selected stash against(modified files) current state of repository unless other stash reference or commit is specified.

To get difference between top most stash stash@{0} and master branch:

$ git diff stash@{0} master

Only display the names of file not diff of changes:

$ git diff --name-only stash@{0} master

See the diff between selected stashes for a selected file:

$ git diff stash@{0}^1 stash@{0} --

  1. git difftool

The command git-difftool can also be used to find diff between selected stash and selected commit or branch or stash

See the difference between latest two stashes:

$ git difftool stash@{0} stash@{0}^1

git difftool --dir-diff stash@{0} stash@{0}^1

Summary:

Commands which are useful to extract the diff from selected stash git stash show, git show, git diff, git difftool .

See difference using command git stash show,

git stash show -p stash@{0}

See the changes in the stash using command git show,

git show stash@{1}

See the difference between latest stash and selected commit using command git diff,

git diff stash@{0}

Stopping a thread after a certain amount of time

If you want the threads to stop when your program exits (as implied by your example), then make them daemon threads.

If you want your threads to die on command, then you have to do it by hand. There are various methods, but all involve doing a check in your thread's loop to see if it's time to exit (see Nix's example).

Python: Maximum recursion depth exceeded

You can increment the stack depth allowed - with this, deeper recursive calls will be possible, like this:

import sys
sys.setrecursionlimit(10000) # 10000 is an example, try with different values

... But I'd advise you to first try to optimize your code, for instance, using iteration instead of recursion.

How to run a makefile in Windows?

Check out GnuWin's make (for windows), which provides a native port for Windows (without requiring a full runtime environment like Cygwin)

If you have winget, you can install via the CLI like this:

winget install GnuWin32.Make

Also, be sure to add the install path to your system PATH:

C:\Program Files (x86)\GnuWin32\bin

Karma: Running a single test file from command line

Even though --files is no longer supported, you can use an env variable to provide a list of files:

// karma.conf.js
function getSpecs(specList) {
  if (specList) {
    return specList.split(',')
  } else {
    return ['**/*_spec.js'] // whatever your default glob is
  }
}

module.exports = function(config) {
  config.set({
    //...
    files: ['app.js'].concat(getSpecs(process.env.KARMA_SPECS))
  });
});

Then in CLI:

$ env KARMA_SPECS="spec1.js,spec2.js" karma start karma.conf.js --single-run

How to specify the actual x axis values to plot as x axis ticks in R

Take a closer look at the ?axis documentation. If you look at the description of the labels argument, you'll see that it is:

"a logical value specifying whether (numerical) annotations are
to be made at the tickmarks,"

So, just change it to true, and you'll get your tick labels.

x <- seq(10,200,10)
y <- runif(x)
plot(x,y,xaxt='n')
axis(side = 1, at = x,labels = T)
# Since TRUE is the default for labels, you can just use axis(side=1,at=x)

Be careful that if you don't stretch your window width, then R might not be able to write all your labels in. Play with the window width and you'll see what I mean.

It's too bad that you had such trouble finding documentation! What were your search terms? Try typing r axis into Google, and the first link you will get is that Quick R page that I mentioned earlier. Scroll down to "Axes", and you'll get a very nice little guide on how to do it. You should probably check there first for any plotting questions, it will be faster than waiting for a SO reply.

How can I undo a mysql statement that I just executed?

If you define table type as InnoDB, you can use transactions. You will need set AUTOCOMMIT=0, and after you can issue COMMIT or ROLLBACK at the end of query or session to submit or cancel a transaction.

ROLLBACK -- will undo the changes that you have made

Checking if sys.argv[x] is defined

In the end, the difference between try, except and testing len(sys.argv) isn't all that significant. They're both a bit hackish compared to argparse.

This occurs to me, though -- as a sort of low-budget argparse:

arg_names = ['command', 'x', 'y', 'operation', 'option']
args = dict(zip(arg_names, sys.argv))

You could even use it to generate a namedtuple with values that default to None -- all in four lines!

Arg_list = collections.namedtuple('Arg_list', arg_names)
args = Arg_list(*(args.get(arg, None) for arg in arg_names))

In case you're not familiar with namedtuple, it's just a tuple that acts like an object, allowing you to access its values using tup.attribute syntax instead of tup[0] syntax.

So the first line creates a new namedtuple type with values for each of the values in arg_names. The second line passes the values from the args dictionary, using get to return a default value when the given argument name doesn't have an associated value in the dictionary.

How does java do modulus calculations with negative numbers?

I don't think Java returns 51 in this case. I am running Java 8 on a Mac and I get:

-13 % 64 = -13

Program:

public class Test {
    public static void main(String[] args) {
        int i = -13;
        int j = 64;
        System.out.println(i % j);
    }
}

JPA entity without id

I know that JPA entities must have primary key but I can't change database structure due to reasons beyond my control.

More precisely, a JPA entity must have some Id defined. But a JPA Id does not necessarily have to be mapped on the table primary key (and JPA can somehow deal with a table without a primary key or unique constraint).

Is it possible to create JPA (Hibernate) entities that will be work with database structure like this?

If you have a column or a set of columns in the table that makes a unique value, you can use this unique set of columns as your Id in JPA.

If your table has no unique columns at all, you can use all of the columns as the Id.

And if your table has some id but your entity doesn't, make it an Embeddable.

jQuery replace one class with another

Sometimes when you have multiple classes and you really need to overwrite all of them, it's easiest to use jQuery's .attr() to overwrite the class attribute:

$('#myElement').attr('class', 'new-class1 new-class2 new-class3');

perform an action on checkbox checked or unchecked event on html form

If you debug your code using developer tools, you will notice that this refers to the window object and not the input control. Consider using the passed in id to retrieve the input and check for checked value.

function doalert(id){
  if(document.getElementById(id).checked) {
    alert('checked');
  }else{
    alert('unchecked');
  }
}

onclick or inline script isn't working in extension

I had the same problem, and didn´t want to rewrite the code, so I wrote a function to modify the code and create the inline declarated events:

function compile(qSel){
    var matches = [];
    var match = null;
    var c = 0;

    var html = $(qSel).html();
    var pattern = /(<(.*?)on([a-zA-Z]+)\s*=\s*('|")(.*)('|")(.*?))(>)/mg;

    while (match = pattern.exec(html)) {
        var arr = [];
        for (i in match) {
            if (!isNaN(i)) {
                arr.push(match[i]);
            }
        }
        matches.push(arr);
    }
    var items_with_events = [];
    var compiledHtml = html;

    for ( var i in matches ){
        var item_with_event = {
            custom_id : "my_app_identifier_"+i,
            code : matches[i][5],
            on : matches[i][3],
        };
        items_with_events.push(item_with_event);
        compiledHtml = compiledHtml.replace(/(<(.*?)on([a-zA-Z]+)\s*=\s*('|")(.*)('|")(.*?))(>)/m, "<$2 custom_id='"+item_with_event.custom_id+"' $7 $8");
    }

    $(qSel).html(compiledHtml);

    for ( var i in items_with_events ){
        $("[custom_id='"+items_with_events[i].custom_id+"']").bind(items_with_events[i].on, function(){
            eval(items_with_events[i].code);
        });
    }
}

$(document).ready(function(){
    compile('#content');
})

This should remove all inline events from the selected node, and recreate them with jquery instead.

TortoiseSVN icons not showing up under Windows 7

Possible problems and solutions

  1. Limitation of number of usable overlay icons by Windows, refer to Kris Erickson's answer.
  2. Inappropriate setting of TortoiseSVN, refer to Ralph Cowling's answer.
  3. Known bug for updating from earlier version (pre 1.6.10), see here.

Pandas: Creating DataFrame from Series

No need to initialize an empty DataFrame (you weren't even doing that, you'd need pd.DataFrame() with the parens).

Instead, to create a DataFrame where each series is a column,

  1. make a list of Series, series, and
  2. concatenate them horizontally with df = pd.concat(series, axis=1)

Something like:

series = [pd.Series(mat[name][:, 1]) for name in Variables]
df = pd.concat(series, axis=1)

Java, How to add library files in netbeans?

In Netbeans 8.2

1. Dowload the binaries from the web source. The Apache Commos are in: [http://commons.apache.org/components.html][1] In this case, you must select the "Logging" in the Components menu and follow the link to downloads in the Releases part. Direct URL: [http://commons.apache.org/proper/commons-logging/download_logging.cgi][2] For me, the correct download was the file: commons-logging-1.2-bin.zip from the Binaries.

2. Unzip downloaded content. Now, you can see several jar files inside the directory created from the zip file.

3. Add the library to the project. Right click in the project, select Properties and click in Libraries (in the left side). Click the button "Add Jar/Folder". Go to the previously unzipped contents and select the properly jar file. Clic in "Open" and click in"Ok". The library has been loaded!

How to create folder with PHP code?

In answer to the question in how to write to a file in PHP you can use the following as an example:

    $fp = fopen ($filename, "a"); # a = append to the file. w = write to the file (create new if doesn't exist)
    if ($fp) {
        fwrite ($fp, $text); //$text is what you are writing to the file
        fclose ($fp);
        $writeSuccess = "Yes";
        #echo ("File written");
    }
    else {
    $writeSuccess = "No";
    #echo ("File was not written");
    }

How do I select last 5 rows in a table without sorting?

You can retrieve them from memory.
So first you get the rows in a DataSet, and then get the last 5 out of the DataSet.

How to get a list of installed Jenkins plugins with name and version pair

If you're working in a docker environment and want to output the plugin list in a plugins.txt format in order to pass that to the install_scripts.sh use these scripts in the http://{jenkins}/script console:

  1. This version is useful for getting specific package version
Jenkins.instance.pluginManager.plugins.each{
  plugin ->
    println ("${plugin.getShortName()}:${plugin.getVersion()}")
}
  1. If you only want the plugin with the latest version you can use this (thanks @KymikoLoco for the tip)
Jenkins.instance.pluginManager.plugins.each{
  plugin ->
    println ("${plugin.getShortName()}:latest")
}

How can I use std::maps with user-defined types as key?

Keys must be comparable, but you haven't defined a suitable operator< for your custom class.

how to check the dtype of a column in python pandas

Asked question title is general, but authors use case stated in the body of the question is specific. So any other answers may be used.

But in order to fully answer the title question it should be clarified that it seems like all of the approaches may fail in some cases and require some rework. I reviewed all of them (and some additional) in decreasing of reliability order (in my opinion):

1. Comparing types directly via == (accepted answer).

Despite the fact that this is accepted answer and has most upvotes count, I think this method should not be used at all. Because in fact this approach is discouraged in python as mentioned several times here.
But if one still want to use it - should be aware of some pandas-specific dtypes like pd.CategoricalDType, pd.PeriodDtype, or pd.IntervalDtype. Here one have to use extra type( ) in order to recognize dtype correctly:

s = pd.Series([pd.Period('2002-03','D'), pd.Period('2012-02-01', 'D')])
s
s.dtype == pd.PeriodDtype   # Not working
type(s.dtype) == pd.PeriodDtype # working

>>> 0    2002-03-01
>>> 1    2012-02-01
>>> dtype: period[D]
>>> False
>>> True

Another caveat here is that type should be pointed out precisely:

s = pd.Series([1,2])
s
s.dtype == np.int64 # Working
s.dtype == np.int32 # Not working

>>> 0    1
>>> 1    2
>>> dtype: int64
>>> True
>>> False

2. isinstance() approach.

This method has not been mentioned in answers so far.

So if direct comparing of types is not a good idea - lets try built-in python function for this purpose, namely - isinstance().
It fails just in the beginning, because assumes that we have some objects, but pd.Series or pd.DataFrame may be used as just empty containers with predefined dtype but no objects in it:

s = pd.Series([], dtype=bool)
s

>>> Series([], dtype: bool)

But if one somehow overcome this issue, and wants to access each object, for example, in the first row and checks its dtype like something like that:

df = pd.DataFrame({'int': [12, 2], 'dt': [pd.Timestamp('2013-01-02'), pd.Timestamp('2016-10-20')]},
                  index = ['A', 'B'])
for col in df.columns:
    df[col].dtype, 'is_int64 = %s' % isinstance(df.loc['A', col], np.int64)

>>> (dtype('int64'), 'is_int64 = True')
>>> (dtype('<M8[ns]'), 'is_int64 = False')

It will be misleading in the case of mixed type of data in single column:

df2 = pd.DataFrame({'data': [12, pd.Timestamp('2013-01-02')]},
                  index = ['A', 'B'])
for col in df2.columns:
    df2[col].dtype, 'is_int64 = %s' % isinstance(df2.loc['A', col], np.int64)

>>> (dtype('O'), 'is_int64 = False')

And last but not least - this method cannot directly recognize Category dtype. As stated in docs:

Returning a single item from categorical data will also return the value, not a categorical of length “1”.

df['int'] = df['int'].astype('category')
for col in df.columns:
    df[col].dtype, 'is_int64 = %s' % isinstance(df.loc['A', col], np.int64)

>>> (CategoricalDtype(categories=[2, 12], ordered=False), 'is_int64 = True')
>>> (dtype('<M8[ns]'), 'is_int64 = False')

So this method is also almost inapplicable.

3. df.dtype.kind approach.

This method yet may work with empty pd.Series or pd.DataFrames but has another problems.

First - it is unable to differ some dtypes:

df = pd.DataFrame({'prd'  :[pd.Period('2002-03','D'), pd.Period('2012-02-01', 'D')],
                   'str'  :['s1', 's2'],
                   'cat'  :[1, -1]})
df['cat'] = df['cat'].astype('category')
for col in df:
    # kind will define all columns as 'Object'
    print (df[col].dtype, df[col].dtype.kind)

>>> period[D] O
>>> object O
>>> category O

Second, what is actually still unclear for me, it even returns on some dtypes None.

4. df.select_dtypes approach.

This is almost what we want. This method designed inside pandas so it handles most corner cases mentioned earlier - empty DataFrames, differs numpy or pandas-specific dtypes well. It works well with single dtype like .select_dtypes('bool'). It may be used even for selecting groups of columns based on dtype:

test = pd.DataFrame({'bool' :[False, True], 'int64':[-1,2], 'int32':[-1,2],'float': [-2.5, 3.4],
                     'compl':np.array([1-1j, 5]),
                     'dt'   :[pd.Timestamp('2013-01-02'), pd.Timestamp('2016-10-20')],
                     'td'   :[pd.Timestamp('2012-03-02')- pd.Timestamp('2016-10-20'),
                              pd.Timestamp('2010-07-12')- pd.Timestamp('2000-11-10')],
                     'prd'  :[pd.Period('2002-03','D'), pd.Period('2012-02-01', 'D')],
                     'intrv':pd.arrays.IntervalArray([pd.Interval(0, 0.1), pd.Interval(1, 5)]),
                     'str'  :['s1', 's2'],
                     'cat'  :[1, -1],
                     'obj'  :[[1,2,3], [5435,35,-52,14]]
                    })
test['int32'] = test['int32'].astype(np.int32)
test['cat'] = test['cat'].astype('category')

Like so, as stated in the docs:

test.select_dtypes('number')

>>>     int64   int32   float   compl   td
>>> 0      -1      -1   -2.5    (1-1j)  -1693 days
>>> 1       2       2    3.4    (5+0j)   3531 days

On may think that here we see first unexpected (at used to be for me: question) results - TimeDelta is included into output DataFrame. But as answered in contrary it should be so, but one have to be aware of it. Note that bool dtype is skipped, that may be also undesired for someone, but it's due to bool and number are in different "subtrees" of numpy dtypes. In case with bool, we may use test.select_dtypes(['bool']) here.

Next restriction of this method is that for current version of pandas (0.24.2), this code: test.select_dtypes('period') will raise NotImplementedError.

And another thing is that it's unable to differ strings from other objects:

test.select_dtypes('object')

>>>     str     obj
>>> 0    s1     [1, 2, 3]
>>> 1    s2     [5435, 35, -52, 14]

But this is, first - already mentioned in the docs. And second - is not the problem of this method, rather the way strings are stored in DataFrame. But anyway this case have to have some post processing.

5. df.api.types.is_XXX_dtype approach.

This one is intended to be most robust and native way to achieve dtype recognition (path of the module where functions resides says by itself) as i suppose. And it works almost perfectly, but still have at least one caveat and still have to somehow distinguish string columns.

Besides, this may be subjective, but this approach also has more 'human-understandable' number dtypes group processing comparing with .select_dtypes('number'):

for col in test.columns:
    if pd.api.types.is_numeric_dtype(test[col]):
        print (test[col].dtype)

>>> bool
>>> int64
>>> int32
>>> float64
>>> complex128

No timedelta and bool is included. Perfect.

My pipeline exploits exactly this functionality at this moment of time, plus a bit of post hand processing.

Output.

Hope I was able to argument the main point - that all discussed approaches may be used, but only pd.DataFrame.select_dtypes() and pd.api.types.is_XXX_dtype should be really considered as the applicable ones.

Getting raw SQL query string from PDO prepared statements

Mike's answer is working good until you are using the "re-use" bind value.
For example:

SELECT * FROM `an_modules` AS `m` LEFT JOIN `an_module_sites` AS `ms` ON m.module_id = ms.module_id WHERE 1 AND `module_enable` = :module_enable AND `site_id` = :site_id AND (`module_system_name` LIKE :search OR `module_version` LIKE :search)

The Mike's answer can only replace first :search but not the second.
So, I rewrite his answer to work with multiple parameters that can re-used properly.

public function interpolateQuery($query, $params) {
    $keys = array();
    $values = $params;
    $values_limit = [];

    $words_repeated = array_count_values(str_word_count($query, 1, ':_'));

    # build a regular expression for each parameter
    foreach ($params as $key => $value) {
        if (is_string($key)) {
            $keys[] = '/:'.$key.'/';
            $values_limit[$key] = (isset($words_repeated[':'.$key]) ? intval($words_repeated[':'.$key]) : 1);
        } else {
            $keys[] = '/[?]/';
            $values_limit = [];
        }

        if (is_string($value))
            $values[$key] = "'" . $value . "'";

        if (is_array($value))
            $values[$key] = "'" . implode("','", $value) . "'";

        if (is_null($value))
            $values[$key] = 'NULL';
    }

    if (is_array($values)) {
        foreach ($values as $key => $val) {
            if (isset($values_limit[$key])) {
                $query = preg_replace(['/:'.$key.'/'], [$val], $query, $values_limit[$key], $count);
            } else {
                $query = preg_replace(['/:'.$key.'/'], [$val], $query, 1, $count);
            }
        }
        unset($key, $val);
    } else {
        $query = preg_replace($keys, $values, $query, 1, $count);
    }
    unset($keys, $values, $values_limit, $words_repeated);

    return $query;
}

Reset Excel to default borders

I had this issue, grid lines appeared to be missing on some cells.

Took me awhile to figure out that the color of those cells were white. I clicked format cell, pattern and then selected "no color" (instead of white) The the grid lines were visible again.

I hope this helps others as it took me a while to figure out why.

I got this error when try to launch MySql Workbench 8.0 on my macOS Catalina 10.15.3.

I solved this issue by installing Python 3.7 on my system.

I guess in future, when Workbench will have version greater than 8, it will require newer version of Python. Just look at the library path in the error and you will find required version.

Excel VBA Run-time Error '32809' - Trying to Understand it

My solution ( may not work for you)

Open the application on a machine that is flagging the error. Change the VB code in some way. ( I added one comment line of code of no consequence into one of the macros)

Sheets(sheetName).Select 'comment of no consequence

and save it. This causes a recompile. Close and re-open - all fixed.

Hope this makes sense and helps

Permission denied on CopyFile in VBS

I've only ever seen CopyFile fail with a "permission denied" error in one of these 3 scenarios:

  • An actual permission problem with either source or destination.
  • Destination path is a folder, but does not have a trailing backslash.
  • Source file is locked by an application.

How to destroy JWT Tokens on logout?

You can add "issue time" to token and maintain "last logout time" for each user on the server. When you check token validity, also check "issue time" be after "last logout time".

Sass and combined child selector

Without the combined child selector you would probably do something similar to this:

foo {
  bar {
    baz {
      color: red;
    }
  }
}

If you want to reproduce the same syntax with >, you could to this:

foo {
  > bar {
    > baz {
      color: red;
    }
  }
}

This compiles to this:

foo > bar > baz {
  color: red;
}

Or in sass:

foo
  > bar
    > baz
      color: red

Emulate Samsung Galaxy Tab

You can't.

"The Samsung Emulator has the same functionality as the Generic Android Emulator, but varies with the size and appearance of the device."

The problem with Samsung is that they don't use a generic android image, they have custom apps and they react in custom ways and do weird things you wouldn't expect and when you're trying to fix bugs that's what you want. You cannot get that. You need access to a physical device to get the right ecosystem to hunt down the bugs and map out which intents work and how they work on that device. And sometimes there are errors that only occur on Samsung devices because some of the core rendering code is different as well. I've had errors where all Android devices except Samsung would work flawlessly but the scheme itself could not work on Samsung and had to be scrapped. The only thing Samsung allows is skinning and that won't properly note the changes in the rendering pipeline or how the samsung ecosystem deals with intents.

You can make the device look similar, that's worthless. I don't care what it looks like, I care whether this bug still affects that particular model or whether the tweak to the intents I made rectified the issue and I can't learn that from a pretty picture as the border to the same device.

RESTful call in Java

Most Easy Solution will be using Apache http client library. refer following sample code.. this code uses basic security for authenticating.

Add following Dependency.

<dependency>
<groupId>org.apache.httpcomponents</groupId>
<artifactId>httpclient</artifactId>
<version>4.4</version>
</dependency>
CredentialsProvider credentialsProvider = new BasicCredentialsProvider();
Credentials credentials = new UsernamePasswordCredentials("username", "password");
credentialsProvider.setCredentials(AuthScope.ANY, credentials);
HttpClient client = HttpClientBuilder.create().setDefaultCredentialsProvider(credentialsProvider).build();
HttpPost request = new HttpPost("https://api.plivo.com/v1/Account/MAYNJ3OT/Message/");HttpResponse response = client.execute(request);
    // Get the response
    BufferedReader rd = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(response.getEntity().getContent()));
    String line = "";
    while ((line = rd.readLine()) != null) {
    textView = textView + line;
    }
    System.out.println(textView);

How can I check if a string only contains letters in Python?

(1) Use str.isalpha() when you print the string.

(2) Please check below program for your reference:-

 str = "this"; # No space & digit in this string
 print str.isalpha() # it gives return True

 str = "this is 2";
 print str.isalpha() # it gives return False

Note:- I checked above example in Ubuntu.

WCFTestClient The HTTP request is unauthorized with client authentication scheme 'Anonymous'

I didn't have control over the security configuration for the service I was calling into, but got the same error. I was able to fix my client as follows.

  1. In the config, set up the security mode:

    <security mode="TransportCredentialOnly">
      <transport clientCredentialType="Windows" proxyCredentialType="None" realm="" />
      <message clientCredentialType="UserName" algorithmSuite="Default" />
    </security>

  2. In the code, set the proxy class to allow impersonation (I added a reference to a service called customer):

    Customer_PortClient proxy = new Customer_PortClient();
    proxy.ClientCredentials.Windows.AllowedImpersonationLevel =
             System.Security.Principal.TokenImpersonationLevel.Impersonation;

Opencv - Grayscale mode Vs gray color conversion

Note: This is not a duplicate, because the OP is aware that the image from cv2.imread is in BGR format (unlike the suggested duplicate question that assumed it was RGB hence the provided answers only address that issue)

To illustrate, I've opened up this same color JPEG image:

enter image description here

once using the conversion

img = cv2.imread(path)
img_gray = cv2.cvtColor(img, cv2.COLOR_BGR2GRAY)

and another by loading it in gray scale mode

img_gray_mode = cv2.imread(path, cv2.IMREAD_GRAYSCALE)

Like you've documented, the diff between the two images is not perfectly 0, I can see diff pixels in towards the left and the bottom

enter image description here

I've summed up the diff too to see

import numpy as np
np.sum(diff)
# I got 6143, on a 494 x 750 image

I tried all cv2.imread() modes

Among all the IMREAD_ modes for cv2.imread(), only IMREAD_COLOR and IMREAD_ANYCOLOR can be converted using COLOR_BGR2GRAY, and both of them gave me the same diff against the image opened in IMREAD_GRAYSCALE

The difference doesn't seem that big. My guess is comes from the differences in the numeric calculations in the two methods (loading grayscale vs conversion to grayscale)

Naturally what you want to avoid is fine tuning your code on a particular version of the image just to find out it was suboptimal for images coming from a different source.

In brief, let's not mix the versions and types in the processing pipeline.

So I'd keep the image sources homogenous, e.g. if you have capturing the image from a video camera in BGR, then I'd use BGR as the source, and do the BGR to grayscale conversion cv2.cvtColor(img, cv2.COLOR_BGR2GRAY)

Vice versa if my ultimate source is grayscale then I'd open the files and the video capture in gray scale cv2.imread(path, cv2.IMREAD_GRAYSCALE)

How to remove \xa0 from string in Python?

I end up here while googling for the problem with not printable character. I use MySQL UTF-8 general_ci and deal with polish language. For problematic strings I have to procced as follows:

text=text.replace('\xc2\xa0', ' ')

It is just fast workaround and you probablly should try something with right encoding setup.

$('form').find('input[type=text],textarea,select').filter(':visible:first');

Edit

Or use jQuery :input selector to filter form descendants.

$('form').find('*').filter(':input:visible:first');

How to revert a "git rm -r ."?

I had exactly the same issue: was cleaning up my folders, rearranging and moving files. I entered: git rm . and hit enter; and then felt my bowels loosen a bit. Luckily, I didn't type in git commit -m "" straightaway.

However, the following command

git checkout .

restored everything, and saved my life.

Difference between setUp() and setUpBeforeClass()

setUpBeforeClass is run before any method execution right after the constructor (run only once)

setUp is run before each method execution

tearDown is run after each method execution

tearDownAfterClass is run after all other method executions, is the last method to be executed. (run only once deconstructor)

How do I prevent people from doing XSS in Spring MVC?

When you are trying to prevent XSS, it's important to think of the context. As an example how and what to escape is very different if you are ouputting data inside a variable in a javascript snippet as opposed to outputting data in an HTML tag or an HTML attribute.

I have an example of this here: http://erlend.oftedal.no/blog/?blogid=91

Also checkout the OWASP XSS Prevention Cheat Sheet: http://www.owasp.org/index.php/XSS_%28Cross_Site_Scripting%29_Prevention_Cheat_Sheet

So the short answer is, make sure you escape output like suggested by Tendayi Mawushe, but take special care when you are outputting data in HTML attributes or javascript.

How to send a html email with the bash command "sendmail"?

How can I render repeating React elements?

Since Array(3) will create an un-iterable array, it must be populated to allow the usage of the map Array method. A way to "convert" is to destruct it inside Array-brackets, which "forces" the Array to be filled with undefined values, same as Array(N).fill(undefined)

<table>
    { [...Array(3)].map((_, index) => <tr key={index}/>) }
</table>

Another way would be via Array fill():

<table>
    { Array(3).fill(<tr/>) }
</table>

?? Problem with above example is the lack of key prop, which is a must.
(Using an iterator's index as key is not recommended)

What is the iOS 5.0 user agent string?

I use the following to detect different mobile devices, viewport and screen. Works quite well for me, might be helpful to others:

var pixelRatio = window.devicePixelRatio || 1;

var viewport = {
    width: window.innerWidth,
    height: window.innerHeight
};

var screen = {
    width: window.screen.availWidth * pixelRatio,
    height: window.screen.availHeight * pixelRatio
};

var iPhone = /iPhone/i.test(navigator.userAgent);
var iPhone4 = (iPhone && pixelRatio == 2);
var iPhone5 = /iPhone OS 5_0/i.test(navigator.userAgent);
var iPad = /iPad/i.test(navigator.userAgent);
var android = /android/i.test(navigator.userAgent);
var webos = /hpwos/i.test(navigator.userAgent);
var iOS = iPhone || iPad;
var mobile = iOS || android || webos;

window.devicePixelRatio is the ratio between physical pixels and device-independent pixels (dips) on the device. window.devicePixelRatio = physical pixels / dips.

How do I change selected value of select2 dropdown with JqGrid?

if you have ajax data source please refer this for bugs free

How to start working with GTest and CMake

The solution involved putting the gtest source directory as a subdirectory of your project. I've included the working CMakeLists.txt below if it is helpful to anyone.

cmake_minimum_required(VERSION 2.6)

ADD_SUBDIRECTORY (gtest-1.6.0)
enable_testing()
include_directories(${gtest_SOURCE_DIR}/include ${gtest_SOURCE_DIR})

# Link test executable against gtest & gtest_main

Saving awk output to variable

I think the $() syntax is easier to read...

variable=$(ps -ef | grep "port 10 -" | grep -v "grep port 10 -"| awk '{printf "%s", $12}')

But the real issue is probably that $12 should not be qouted with ""

Edited since the question was changed, This returns valid data, but it is not clear what the expected output of ps -ef is and what is expected in variable.

How to copy a char array in C?

Well, techincally you can…

typedef struct { char xx[18]; } arr_wrap;

char array1[18] = "abcdefg";
char array2[18];

*((arr_wrap *) array2) = *((arr_wrap *) array1);

printf("%s\n", array2);     /* "abcdefg" */

but it will not look very beautiful.

…Unless you use the C preprocessor…

#define CC_MEMCPY(DESTARR, SRCARR, ARRSIZE) \
    { struct _tmparrwrap_ { char xx[ARRSIZE]; }; *((struct _tmparrwrap_ *) DESTARR) = *((struct _tmparrwrap_ *) SRCARR); }

You can then do:

char array1[18] = "abcdefg";
char array2[18];

CC_MEMCPY(array2, array1, sizeof(array1));

printf("%s\n", array2);     /* "abcdefg" */

And it will work with any data type, not just char:

int numbers1[3] = { 1, 2, 3 };
int numbers2[3];

CC_MEMCPY(numbers2, numbers1, sizeof(numbers1));

printf("%d - %d - %d\n", numbers2[0], numbers2[1], numbers2[2]);     /* "abcdefg" */

(Yes, the code above is granted to work always and it's portable)

Checking for #N/A in Excel cell from VBA code

First check for an error (N/A value) and then try the comparisation against cvErr(). You are comparing two different things, a value and an error. This may work, but not always. Simply casting the expression to an error may result in similar problems because it is not a real error only the value of an error which depends on the expression.

If IsError(ActiveWorkbook.Sheets("Publish").Range("G4").offset(offsetCount, 0).Value) Then
  If (ActiveWorkbook.Sheets("Publish").Range("G4").offset(offsetCount, 0).Value <> CVErr(xlErrNA)) Then
    'do something
  End If
End If

How to implement a secure REST API with node.js

If you want to have a completely locked down area of your webapplication which can only be accessed by administrators from your company, then SSL authorization maybe for you. This is one of the most secure setups you will find as there are no username/passwords involved so no one can gain access unless one of your users hands the key files to a potential hacker.

Getting Current date, time , day in laravel

You have a couple of helpers.

The helper now() https://laravel.com/docs/7.x/helpers#method-now

The helper now() has an optional argument, the timezone. So you can use now:

now();

or

now("Europe/Rome");

In the same way you could use the helper today() https://laravel.com/docs/7.x/helpers#method-today. This is the "same thing" of now() but with no hours, minutes, seconds.

At the end, under the hood they use Carbon as well.

sort csv by column

The reader acts like a generator. On a file with some fake data:

>>> import sys, csv
>>> data = csv.reader(open('data.csv'),delimiter=';')
>>> data
<_csv.reader object at 0x1004a11a0>
>>> data.next()
['a', ' b', ' c']
>>> data.next()
['x', ' y', ' z']
>>> data.next()
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "<stdin>", line 1, in <module>
StopIteration

Using operator.itemgetter as Ignacio suggests:

>>> data = csv.reader(open('data.csv'),delimiter=';')
>>> import operator
>>> sortedlist = sorted(data, key=operator.itemgetter(2), reverse=True)
>>> sortedlist
[['x', ' y', ' z'], ['a', ' b', ' c']]

How to solve Notice: Undefined index: id in C:\xampp\htdocs\invmgt\manufactured_goods\change.php on line 21

You are not getting value of $id=$_GET['id'];

And you are using it (before it gets initialised).

Use php's in built isset() function to check whether the variable is defied or not.

So, please update the line to:

$id = isset($_GET['id']) ? $_GET['id'] : '';

JQuery - Get select value

val() returns the value of the <select> element, i.e. the value attribute of the selected <option> element.

Since you actually want the inner text of the selected <option> element, you should match that element and use text() instead:

var nationality = $("#dancerCountry option:selected").text();

How do I check if an object has a key in JavaScript?

Try the JavaScript in operator.

if ('key' in myObj)

And the inverse.

if (!('key' in myObj))

Be careful! The in operator matches all object keys, including those in the object's prototype chain.

Use myObj.hasOwnProperty('key') to check an object's own keys and will only return true if key is available on myObj directly:

myObj.hasOwnProperty('key')

Unless you have a specific reason to use the in operator, using myObj.hasOwnProperty('key') produces the result most code is looking for.

Python Requests and persistent sessions

Check out my answer in this similar question:

python: urllib2 how to send cookie with urlopen request

import urllib2
import urllib
from cookielib import CookieJar

cj = CookieJar()
opener = urllib2.build_opener(urllib2.HTTPCookieProcessor(cj))

formdata = { "username" : username, "password": password, "form-id" : "1234" }
data_encoded = urllib.urlencode(formdata)
response = opener.open("https://page.com/login.php", data_encoded)
content = response.read()

EDIT:

I see I've gotten a few downvotes for my answer, but no explaining comments. I'm guessing it's because I'm referring to the urllib libraries instead of requests. I do that because the OP asks for help with requests or for someone to suggest another approach.

you attach the .onerror handler to the ajax object, why people insist on posting JQuery for responses when vanila works cross platform...

ajax.onerror = function(){
    alert("Oops! Something went wrong...");
}

numpy: most efficient frequency counts for unique values in an array

I was also interested in this, so I did a little performance comparison (using perfplot, a pet project of mine). Result:

y = np.bincount(a)
ii = np.nonzero(y)[0]
out = np.vstack((ii, y[ii])).T

is by far the fastest. (Note the log-scaling.)

enter image description here

Code to generate the plot:

import numpy as np
import pandas as pd
import perfplot
from scipy.stats import itemfreq

def bincount(a):
    y = np.bincount(a)
    ii = np.nonzero(y)[0]
    return np.vstack((ii, y[ii])).T

def unique(a):
    unique, counts = np.unique(a, return_counts=True)
    return np.asarray((unique, counts)).T

def unique_count(a):
    unique, inverse = np.unique(a, return_inverse=True)
    count = np.zeros(len(unique), np.int)
    np.add.at(count, inverse, 1)
    return np.vstack((unique, count)).T

def pandas_value_counts(a):
    out = pd.value_counts(pd.Series(a))
    out.sort_index(inplace=True)
    out = np.stack([out.keys().values, out.values]).T
    return out

perfplot.show(
    setup=lambda n: np.random.randint(0, 1000, n),
    kernels=[bincount, unique, itemfreq, unique_count, pandas_value_counts],
    n_range=[2 ** k for k in range(26)],
    logx=True,
    logy=True,
    xlabel="len(a)",
)

HTML.ActionLink vs Url.Action in ASP.NET Razor

Yes, there is a difference. Html.ActionLink generates an <a href=".."></a> tag whereas Url.Action returns only an url.

For example:

@Html.ActionLink("link text", "someaction", "somecontroller", new { id = "123" }, null)

generates:

<a href="/somecontroller/someaction/123">link text</a>

and Url.Action("someaction", "somecontroller", new { id = "123" }) generates:

/somecontroller/someaction/123

There is also Html.Action which executes a child controller action.

Are iframes considered 'bad practice'?

They're not bad practice, they're just another tool and they add flexibility.

For use as a standard page element... they're good, because they're a simple and reliable way to separate content onto several pages. Especially for user-generated content, it may be useful to "sandbox" internal pages into an iframe so poor markup doesn't affect the main page. The downside is that if you introduce multiple layers of scrolling (one for the browser, one for the iframe) your users will get frustrated. Like adzm said, you don't want to use an iframe for primary navigation, but think about them as a text/markup equivalent to the way a video or another media file would be embedded.

For scripting background events, the choice is generally between a hidden iframe and XmlHttpRequest to load content for the current page. The difference there is that an iframe generates a page load, so you can move back and forward in browser cache with most browsers. Notice that Google, who uses XmlHttpRequest all over the place, also uses iframes in certain cases to allow a user to move back and forward in browser history.

Reporting Services export to Excel with Multiple Worksheets

Prior to 2008 R2 it does't appear possible but MSDN Social has some suggested workarounds.

What are database constraints?

There are basically 4 types of main constraints in SQL:

  • Domain Constraint: if one of the attribute values provided for a new tuple is not of the specified attribute domain

  • Key Constraint: if the value of a key attribute in a new tuple already exists in another tuple in the relation

  • Referential Integrity: if a foreign key value in a new tuple references a primary key value that does not exist in the referenced relation

  • Entity Integrity: if the primary key value is null in a new tuple

Best way to compare 2 XML documents in Java

The latest version of XMLUnit can help the job of asserting two XML are equal. Also XMLUnit.setIgnoreWhitespace() and XMLUnit.setIgnoreAttributeOrder() may be necessary to the case in question.

See working code of a simple example of XML Unit use below.

import org.custommonkey.xmlunit.DetailedDiff;
import org.custommonkey.xmlunit.XMLUnit;
import org.junit.Assert;

public class TestXml {

    public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception {
        String result = "<abc             attr=\"value1\"                title=\"something\">            </abc>";
        // will be ok
        assertXMLEquals("<abc attr=\"value1\" title=\"something\"></abc>", result);
    }

    public static void assertXMLEquals(String expectedXML, String actualXML) throws Exception {
        XMLUnit.setIgnoreWhitespace(true);
        XMLUnit.setIgnoreAttributeOrder(true);

        DetailedDiff diff = new DetailedDiff(XMLUnit.compareXML(expectedXML, actualXML));

        List<?> allDifferences = diff.getAllDifferences();
        Assert.assertEquals("Differences found: "+ diff.toString(), 0, allDifferences.size());
    }

}

If using Maven, add this to your pom.xml:

<dependency>
    <groupId>xmlunit</groupId>
    <artifactId>xmlunit</artifactId>
    <version>1.4</version>
</dependency>

What is the difference between call and apply?

Fundamental difference is that call() accepts an argument list, while apply() accepts a single array of arguments.

Scaling an image to fit on canvas

Provide the source image (img) size as the first rectangle:

ctx.drawImage(img, 0, 0, img.width,    img.height,     // source rectangle
                   0, 0, canvas.width, canvas.height); // destination rectangle

The second rectangle will be the destination size (what source rectangle will be scaled to).

Download history stock prices automatically from yahoo finance in python

When you're going to work with such time series in Python, pandas is indispensable. And here's the good news: it comes with a historical data downloader for Yahoo: pandas.io.data.DataReader.

from pandas.io.data import DataReader
from datetime import datetime

ibm = DataReader('IBM',  'yahoo', datetime(2000, 1, 1), datetime(2012, 1, 1))
print(ibm['Adj Close'])

Here's an example from the pandas documentation.

Update for pandas >= 0.19:

The pandas.io.data module has been removed from pandas>=0.19 onwards. Instead, you should use the separate pandas-datareader package. Install with:

pip install pandas-datareader

And then you can do this in Python:

import pandas_datareader as pdr
from datetime import datetime

ibm = pdr.get_data_yahoo(symbols='IBM', start=datetime(2000, 1, 1), end=datetime(2012, 1, 1))
print(ibm['Adj Close'])

Downloading from Google Finance is also supported.

There's more in the documentation of pandas-datareader.

How to change background color of cell in table using java script

Try this:

function btnClick() {
    var x = document.getElementById("mytable").getElementsByTagName("td");
    x[0].innerHTML = "i want to change my cell color";
    x[0].style.backgroundColor = "yellow";
}

Set from JS, backgroundColor is the equivalent of background-color in your style-sheet.

Note also that the .cells collection belongs to a table row, not to the table itself. To get all the cells from all rows you can instead use getElementsByTagName().

Can you write virtual functions / methods in Java?

All non-private instance methods are virtual by default in Java.

In C++, private methods can be virtual. This can be exploited for the non-virtual-interface (NVI) idiom. In Java, you'd need to make the NVI overridable methods protected.

From the Java Language Specification, v3:

8.4.8.1 Overriding (by Instance Methods) An instance method m1 declared in a class C overrides another instance method, m2, declared in class A iff all of the following are true:

  1. C is a subclass of A.
  2. The signature of m1 is a subsignature (§8.4.2) of the signature of m2.
  3. Either * m2 is public, protected or declared with default access in the same package as C, or * m1 overrides a method m3, m3 distinct from m1, m3 distinct from m2, such that m3 overrides m2.

How to check for the type of a template parameter?

Use is_same:

#include <type_traits>

template <typename T>
void foo()
{
    if (std::is_same<T, animal>::value) { /* ... */ }  // optimizable...
}

Usually, that's a totally unworkable design, though, and you really want to specialize:

template <typename T> void foo() { /* generic implementation  */ }

template <> void foo<animal>()   { /* specific for T = animal */ }

Note also that it's unusual to have function templates with explicit (non-deduced) arguments. It's not unheard of, but often there are better approaches.

How to correctly use Html.ActionLink with ASP.NET MVC 4 Areas

I hate answering my own question, but @Matt Bodily put me on the right track.

The @Html.Action method actually invokes a controller and renders the view, so that wouldn't work to create a snippet of HTML in my case, as this was causing a recursive function call resulting in a StackOverflowException. The @Url.Action(action, controller, { area = "abc" }) does indeed return the URL, but I finally discovered an overload of Html.ActionLink that provided a better solution for my case:

@Html.ActionLink("Admin", "Index", "Home", new { area = "Admin" }, null)

Note: , null is significant in this case, to match the right signature.

Documentation: @Html.ActionLink (LinkExtensions.ActionLink)

Documentation for this particular overload:

LinkExtensions.ActionLink(Controller, Action, Text, RouteArgs, HtmlAttributes)

It's been difficult to find documentation for these helpers. I tend to search for "Html.ActionLink" when I probably should have searched for "LinkExtensions.ActionLink", if that helps anyone in the future.

Still marking Matt's response as the answer.

Edit: Found yet another HTML helper to solve this:

@Html.RouteLink("Admin", new { action = "Index", controller = "Home", area = "Admin" })

Conditional formatting using AND() function

I am currently responsible for an Excel application with a lot of legacy code. One of the slowest pieces of this code was looping through 500 Rows in 6 Columns, setting conditional formatting formulae for each. The formulae are to identify where the cell contents are non-blank but do not form part of a Named Range, therefore referring twice to the cell itself, originally written as:

=AND(COUNTIF(<rangename>,<cellref>)=0,<cellref><>"")

Obviously the overheads would be much reduced by updating all Cells in each Column (Range) at once. However, as noted above, using ADDRESS(ROW(),COLUMN(),n) does not work in this circumstance, i.e. this does not work:

=AND(COUNTIF(<rangename>,ADDRESS(ROW(),COLUMN(),1))=0,ADDRESS(ROW(),COLUMN(),1)<>"")

I experimented extensively with a blank workbook and could find no way around this, using various alternatives such as ISBLANK. In the end, to get around this, I created two User-Defined Functions (using a tip I found elsewhere on this site):

Public Function returnCellContent() As Variant

  returnCellContent = Application.Caller.Value

End Function

Public Function Cell_HasContent() As Boolean

  If Application.Caller.Value = "" Then
    Cell_HasContent = False
  Else
    Cell_HasContent = True
  End If

End Function

The conditional formula is now:

=AND(COUNTIF(<rangename>,returnCellContent()=0,Cell_HasContent())

which works fine.

This has sped the code up, in Excel 2010, from 5s to 1s. Because this code is run whenever data is loaded into the application, this saving is significant and noticeable to the user. It's also a lot cleaner and reusable.

I've taken the time to post this because I could not find any answers on this site or elsewhere that cover all of the circumstances, whilst I'm sure that there are others who could benefit from the above approach, potentially with much larger numbers of cells to update.

How to "log in" to a website using Python's Requests module?

I know you've found another solution, but for those like me who find this question, looking for the same thing, it can be achieved with requests as follows:

Firstly, as Marcus did, check the source of the login form to get three pieces of information - the url that the form posts to, and the name attributes of the username and password fields. In his example, they are inUserName and inUserPass.

Once you've got that, you can use a requests.Session() instance to make a post request to the login url with your login details as a payload. Making requests from a session instance is essentially the same as using requests normally, it simply adds persistence, allowing you to store and use cookies etc.

Assuming your login attempt was successful, you can simply use the session instance to make further requests to the site. The cookie that identifies you will be used to authorise the requests.

Example

import requests

# Fill in your details here to be posted to the login form.
payload = {
    'inUserName': 'username',
    'inUserPass': 'password'
}

# Use 'with' to ensure the session context is closed after use.
with requests.Session() as s:
    p = s.post('LOGIN_URL', data=payload)
    # print the html returned or something more intelligent to see if it's a successful login page.
    print p.text

    # An authorised request.
    r = s.get('A protected web page url')
    print r.text
        # etc...

PHP cURL vs file_get_contents

In addition to this, due to some recent website hacks we had to secure our sites more. In doing so, we discovered that file_get_contents failed to work, where curl still would work.

Not 100%, but I believe that this php.ini setting may have been blocking the file_get_contents request.

; Disable allow_url_fopen for security reasons
allow_url_fopen = 0

Either way, our code now works with curl.
