Warning: Each child in an array or iterator should have a unique "key" prop. Check the render method of `ListView`

This warning comes when you don't add a key to your list items.As per react js Docs -

Keys help React identify which items have changed, are added, or are removed. Keys should be given to the elements inside the array to give the elements a stable identity:

const numbers = [1, 2, 3, 4, 5];
const listItems = numbers.map((number) =>
  <li key={number.toString()}>
    {number}
  </li>
);

The best way to pick a key is to use a string that uniquely identifies a list item among its siblings. Most often you would use IDs from your data as keys:

const todoItems = todos.map((todo) =>
  <li key={todo.id}>
    {todo.text}
  </li>
);

When you don’t have stable IDs for rendered items, you may use the item index as a key as a last resort

const todoItems = todos.map((todo, index) =>
  // Only do this if items have no stable IDs
  <li key={index}>
    {todo.text}
  </li>
);

Converting rows into columns and columns into rows using R

Here is a tidyverse option that might work depending on the data, and some caveats on its usage:

library(tidyverse)

starting_df %>%
  rownames_to_column() %>%
  gather(variable, value, -rowname) %>%
  spread(rowname, value)

rownames_to_column() is necessary if the original dataframe has meaningful row names, otherwise the new column names in the new transposed dataframe will be integers corresponding to the orignal row number. If there are no meaningful row names you can skip rownames_to_column() and replace rowname with the name of the first column in the dataframe, assuming those values are unique and meaningful. Using the tidyr::smiths sample data would be:

smiths %>%
    gather(variable, value, -subject) %>%
    spread(subject, value)

Using the example starting_df with the tidyverse approach will throw a warning message about dropping attributes. This is related to converting columns with different attribute types into a single character column. The smiths data will not give that warning because all columns except for subject are doubles.

The earlier answer using as.data.frame(t()) will convert everything to a factor if there are mixed column types unless stringsAsFactors = FALSE is added, whereas the tidyverse option converts everything to a character by default if there are mixed column types.

CSS3 transition doesn't work with display property

You cannot use height: 0 and height: auto to transition the height. auto is always relative and cannot be transitioned towards. You could however use max-height: 0 and transition that to max-height: 9999px for example.

Sorry I couldn't comment, my rep isn't high enough...

Get Date Object In UTC format in Java

You can subtract the time zone difference from now.

final Calendar calendar  = Calendar.getInstance();
final int      utcOffset = calendar.get(Calendar.ZONE_OFFSET) + calendar.get(Calendar.DST_OFFSET);
final long     tempDate  = new Date().getTime();

return new Date(tempDate - utcOffset);

Floating Div Over An Image

You've got the right idea. Looks to me like you just need to change .tag's position:relative to position:absolute, and add position:relative to .container.

How to replace a substring of a string

You are probably not assigning it after doing the replacement or replacing the wrong thing. Try :

String haystack = "abcd=0; efgh=1";
String result = haystack.replaceAll("abcd","dddd");

Creating csv file with php

@Baba's answer is great. But you don't need to use explode because fputcsv takes an array as a parameter

For instance, if you have a three columns, four lines document, here's a more straight version:

header('Content-Type: text/csv');
header('Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="sample.csv"');

$user_CSV[0] = array('first_name', 'last_name', 'age');

// very simple to increment with i++ if looping through a database result
$user_CSV[1] = array('Quentin', 'Del Viento', 34);
$user_CSV[2] = array('Antoine', 'Del Torro', 55);
$user_CSV[3] = array('Arthur', 'Vincente', 15);

$fp = fopen('php://output', 'wb');
foreach ($user_CSV as $line) {
    // though CSV stands for "comma separated value"
    // in many countries (including France) separator is ";"
    fputcsv($fp, $line, ',');
}
fclose($fp);

Python: json.loads returns items prefixing with 'u'

The u- prefix just means that you have a Unicode string. When you really use the string, it won't appear in your data. Don't be thrown by the printed output.

For example, try this:

print mail_accounts[0]["i"]

You won't see a u.

ParseError: not well-formed (invalid token) using cElementTree

See this answer to another question and the according part of the XML spec.

The backspace U+0008 is an invalid character in XML documents. It must be represented as escaped entity &#8; and cannot occur plainly.

If you need to process this XML snippet, you must replace \x08 in s before feeding it into an XML parser.

Return array from function

At a minimum, change this:

function BlockID() {
    var IDs = new Array();
        images['s'] = "Images/Block_01.png";
        images['g'] = "Images/Block_02.png";
        images['C'] = "Images/Block_03.png";
        images['d'] = "Images/Block_04.png";
    return IDs;
}

To this:

function BlockID() {
    var IDs = new Object();
        IDs['s'] = "Images/Block_01.png";
        IDs['g'] = "Images/Block_02.png";
        IDs['C'] = "Images/Block_03.png";
        IDs['d'] = "Images/Block_04.png";
    return IDs;
}

There are a couple fixes to point out. First, images is not defined in your original function, so assigning property values to it will throw an error. We correct that by changing images to IDs. Second, you want to return an Object, not an Array. An object can be assigned property values akin to an associative array or hash -- an array cannot. So we change the declaration of var IDs = new Array(); to var IDs = new Object();.

After those changes your code will run fine, but it can be simplified further. You can use shorthand notation (i.e., object literal property value shorthand) to create the object and return it immediately:

function BlockID() {
    return {
            "s":"Images/Block_01.png"
            ,"g":"Images/Block_02.png"
            ,"C":"Images/Block_03.png"
            ,"d":"Images/Block_04.png"
    };
}

String.Format for Hex

You can also pad the characters left by including a number following the X, such as this: string.format("0x{0:X8}", string_to_modify), which yields "0x00000C20".

Javascript Print iframe contents only

an alternate option, which may or may not be suitable, but cleaner if it is:

If you always want to just print the iframe from the page, you can have a separate "@media print{}" stylesheet that hides everything besides the iframe. Then you can just print the page normally.

If file exists then delete the file

You're close, you just need to delete the file before trying to over-write it.

How to ssh connect through python Paramiko with ppk public key

For me I doing this:

import paramiko
hostname = 'my hostname or IP'
myuser = 'the user to ssh connect'
mySSHK   = '/path/to/sshkey.pub'
sshcon = paramiko.SSHClient() # will create the object
sshcon.set_missing_host_key_policy(paramiko.AutoAddPolicy()) # no known_hosts error
sshcon.connect(hostname, username=myuser, key_filename=mySSHK) # no passwd needed

works for me pretty ok

Removing character in list of strings

Beside using loop and for comprehension, you could also use map

lst = [("aaaa8"),("bb8"),("ccc8"),("dddddd8")]
mylst = map(lambda each:each.strip("8"), lst)
print mylst

How to convert xml into array in php?

Another option is the SimpleXML extension (I believe it comes standard with most php installs.)

http://php.net/manual/en/book.simplexml.php

The syntax looks something like this for your example

$xml = new SimpleXMLElement($xmlString);
echo $xml->bbb->cccc->dddd['Id'];
echo $xml->bbb->cccc->eeee['name'];
// or...........
foreach ($xml->bbb->cccc as $element) {
  foreach($element as $key => $val) {
   echo "{$key}: {$val}";
  }
}

:touch CSS pseudo-class or something similar?

There is no such thing as :touch in the W3C specifications, http://www.w3.org/TR/CSS2/selector.html#pseudo-class-selectors

:active should work, I would think.

Order on the :active/:hover pseudo class is important for it to function correctly.

Here is a quote from that above link

Interactive user agents sometimes change the rendering in response to user actions. CSS provides three pseudo-classes for common cases:

  • The :hover pseudo-class applies while the user designates an element (with some pointing device), but does not activate it. For example, a visual user agent could apply this pseudo-class when the cursor (mouse pointer) hovers over a box generated by the element. User agents not supporting interactive media do not have to support this pseudo-class. Some conforming user agents supporting interactive media may not be able to support this pseudo-class (e.g., a pen device).
  • The :active pseudo-class applies while an element is being activated by the user. For example, between the times the user presses the mouse button and releases it.
  • The :focus pseudo-class applies while an element has the focus (accepts keyboard events or other forms of text input).

How can I get a specific field of a csv file?

Finaly I got it!!!

import csv

def select_index(index):
    csv_file = open('oscar_age_female.csv', 'r')
    csv_reader = csv.DictReader(csv_file)

    for line in csv_reader:
        l = line['Index']
        if l == index:
            print(line[' "Name"'])

select_index('11')

Converting double to string with N decimals, dot as decimal separator, and no thousand separator

It's really easy to specify your own decimal separator. Just took me about 2 hours to figure it out :D. You see that you were using the current ou other culture that you specify right? Well, the only thing the parser needs is an IFormatProvider. If you give it the CultureInfo.CurrentCulture.NumberFormat as a formatter, it will format the double according to your current culture's NumberDecimalSeparator. What I did was just to create a new instance of the NumberFormatInfo class and set it's NumberDecimalSeparator property to whichever separator string I wanted. Complete code below:

double value = 2.3d;
NumberFormatInfo nfi = new NumberFormatInfo();
nfi.NumberDecimalSeparator = "-";
string x = value.ToString(nfi);

The result? "2-3"

Python truncate a long string

Even more concise:

data = data[:75]

If it is less than 75 characters there will be no change.

Sorting Python list based on the length of the string

When you pass a lambda to sort, you need to return an integer, not a boolean. So your code should instead read as follows:

xs.sort(lambda x,y: cmp(len(x), len(y)))

Note that cmp is a builtin function such that cmp(x, y) returns -1 if x is less than y, 0 if x is equal to y, and 1 if x is greater than y.

Of course, you can instead use the key parameter:

xs.sort(key=lambda s: len(s))

This tells the sort method to order based on whatever the key function returns.

EDIT: Thanks to balpha and Ruslan below for pointing out that you can just pass len directly as the key parameter to the function, thus eliminating the need for a lambda:

xs.sort(key=len)

And as Ruslan points out below, you can also use the built-in sorted function rather than the list.sort method, which creates a new list rather than sorting the existing one in-place:

print(sorted(xs, key=len))

Does height and width not apply to span?

Span is an inline element. It has no width or height.

You could turn it into a block-level element, then it will accept your dimension directives.

span.product__specfield_8_arrow
{
    display: inline-block; /* or block */
}

How to create a css rule for all elements except one class?

The safest bet is to create a class on those tables and use that. Currently getting something like this to work in all major browsers is unlikely.

Getting an "ambiguous redirect" error

I got this error when trying to use brace expansion to write output to multiple files.

for example: echo "text" > {f1,f2}.txt results in -bash: {f1,f2}.txt: ambiguous redirect

In this case, use tee to output to multiple files:

echo "text" | tee {f1,f2,...,fn}.txt 1>/dev/null

the 1>/dev/null will prevent the text from being written to stdout

If you want to append to the file(s) use tee -a

Where can I find documentation on formatting a date in JavaScript?

Having looked through several of the options provided in other answers, I decided to write my own limited but simple solution that others may also find useful.

/**
* Format date as a string
* @param date - a date object (usually "new Date();")
* @param format - a string format, eg. "DD-MM-YYYY"
*/
function dateFormat(date, format) {
    // Calculate date parts and replace instances in format string accordingly
    format = format.replace("DD", (date.getDate() < 10 ? '0' : '') + date.getDate()); // Pad with '0' if needed
    format = format.replace("MM", (date.getMonth() < 9 ? '0' : '') + (date.getMonth() + 1)); // Months are zero-based
    format = format.replace("YYYY", date.getFullYear());
    return format;
}

Example usage:

console.log("The date is: " + dateFormat(new Date(), "DD/MM/YYYY"));

Googlemaps API Key for Localhost

You have to check the specific error within the javascript console (e.g. Ctrl + Shift + K in Firefox for Windows).

According to Steven Gliebe (2016), there are four common cases for this problem. If I may summarize it, as this:

  1. MissingKeyMapError >> Get Google Maps API Key (but also consider alternative no.2)
  2. RefererNotAllowedMapError >> Register your localhost:port in your google developer dashboard.
  3. ApiNotActivatedMapError >> Enabling the Google Maps API in Google API Library page
  4. InvalidKeyMapError >> Add your key to your scripts/ codes properly

After doing some code modification, please clear your browser cache as necessary.

In case there are other errors, you can check Google Maps API Error Codes Documentation page.

FragmentActivity to Fragment

first of all;

a Fragment must be inside a FragmentActivity, that's the first rule,

a FragmentActivity is quite similar to a standart Activity that you already know, besides having some Fragment oriented methods

second thing about Fragments, is that there is one important method you MUST call, wich is onCreateView, where you inflate your layout, think of it as the setContentLayout

here is an example:

    @Override public View onCreateView(LayoutInflater inflater, ViewGroup container, Bundle savedInstanceState) {     mView       = inflater.inflate(R.layout.fragment_layout, container, false);       return mView; }

and continu your work based on that mView, so to find a View by id, call mView.findViewById(..);

for the FragmentActivity part:

the xml part "must" have a FrameLayout in order to inflate a fragment in it

        <FrameLayout             android:id="@+id/content_frame"             android:layout_width="match_parent"             android:layout_height="match_parent"  >         </FrameLayout>

as for the inflation part

getSupportFragmentManager().beginTransaction().replace(R.id.content_frame, new YOUR_FRAGMENT, "TAG").commit();

begin with these, as there is tons of other stuf you must know about fragments and fragment activities, start of by reading something about it (like life cycle) at the android developer site

What are all the uses of an underscore in Scala?

Besides the usages that JAiro mentioned, I like this one:

def getConnectionProps = {
    ( Config.getHost, Config.getPort, Config.getSommElse, Config.getSommElsePartTwo )
}

If someone needs all connection properties, he can do:

val ( host, port, sommEsle, someElsePartTwo ) = getConnectionProps

If you need just a host and a port, you can do:

val ( host, port, _, _ ) = getConnectionProps

Flexbox not giving equal width to elements

There is an important bit that is not mentioned in the article to which you linked and that is flex-basis. By default flex-basis is auto.

From the spec:

If the specified flex-basis is auto, the used flex basis is the value of the flex item’s main size property. (This can itself be the keyword auto, which sizes the flex item based on its contents.)

Each flex item has a flex-basis which is sort of like its initial size. Then from there, any remaining free space is distributed proportionally (based on flex-grow) among the items. With auto, that basis is the contents size (or defined size with width, etc.). As a result, items with bigger text within are being given more space overall in your example.

If you want your elements to be completely even, you can set flex-basis: 0. This will set the flex basis to 0 and then any remaining space (which will be all space since all basises are 0) will be proportionally distributed based on flex-grow.

li {
    flex-grow: 1;
    flex-basis: 0;
    /* ... */
}

This diagram from the spec does a pretty good job of illustrating the point.

And here is a working example with your fiddle.

jQuery UI Sortable, then write order into a database

I can change the rows by following the accepted answer and associated example on jsFiddle. But due to some unknown reasons, I couldn't get the ids after "stop or change" actions. But the example posted in the JQuery UI page works fine for me. You can check that link here.

Include PHP inside JavaScript (.js) files

Instead of messing with generic php-handlers do a 1-file exception using a rewrite:

Rename the .js-file to .php and rewrite the request to make it responde to a .js request. If the file is served by apache; add in .htaccess:

RewriteEngine on
RewriteRule myjsfile\.js myjsfile.php [L]

Secondly make the .php-file pretend to be a js-file. Inside the php-file start the file with:

<?php header('Content-Type: application/javascript'); ?>

Et voilà, you can now use php-tags in your ".js"-file.

Read and Write CSV files including unicode with Python 2.7

Make sure you encode and decode as appropriate.

This example will roundtrip some example text in utf-8 to a csv file and back out to demonstrate:

with open('/tmp/utf.csv','w') as fout:
    writer=csv.writer(fout)
    writer.writerows([tests.keys()])
    for row in zip(*tests.values()):
        row=[s.encode('utf-8') for s in row]
        writer.writerows([row])

with open('/tmp/utf.csv','r') as fin:

Is there a CSS selector by class prefix?

CSS Attribute selectors will allow you to check attributes for a string. (in this case - a class-name)

https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/CSS/Attribute_selectors

(looks like it's actually at 'recommendation' status for 2.1 and 3)

Here's an outline of how I *think it works:

  • [ ] : is the container for complex selectors if you will...
  • class : 'class' is the attribute you are looking at in this case.
  • * : modifier(if any): in this case - "wildcard" indicates you're looking for ANY match.
  • test- : the value (assuming there is one) of the attribute - that contains the string "test-" (which could be anything)

So, for example:

[class*='test-'] {
  color: red;
}

You could be more specific if you have good reason, with the element too

ul[class*='test-'] > li { ... }

I've tried to find edge cases, but I see no need to use a combination of ^ and * - as * gets everything...

example: http://codepen.io/sheriffderek/pen/MaaBwp

http://caniuse.com/#feat=css-sel2

Everything above IE6 will happily obey. : )

note that:

[class] { ... }

Will select anything with a class...

Add new field to every document in a MongoDB collection

To clarify, the syntax is as follows for MongoDB version 4.0.x:

db.collection.update({},{$set: {"new_field*":1}},false,true)

Here is a working example adding a published field to the articles collection and setting the field's value to true:

db.articles.update({},{$set: {"published":true}},false,true)

How to convert base64 string to image?

Just use the method .decode('base64') and go to be happy.

You need, too, to detect the mimetype/extension of the image, as you can save it correctly, in a brief example, you can use the code below for a django view:

def receive_image(req):
    image_filename = req.REQUEST["image_filename"] # A field from the Android device
    image_data = req.REQUEST["image_data"].decode("base64") # The data image
    handler = open(image_filename, "wb+")
    handler.write(image_data)
    handler.close()

And, after this, use the file saved as you want.

Simple. Very simple. ;)

Iterating through a List Object in JSP

change the code to the following

<%! List eList = (ArrayList)session.getAttribute("empList");%>
....
<table>
    <%
    for(int i=0; i<eList.length;i++){%>
        <tr>
            <td><%= ((Employee)eList[i]).getEid() %></td>
            <td><%= ((Employee)eList[i]).getEname() %></td>
        </tr>
      <%}%>
</table>

Difference between `Optional.orElse()` and `Optional.orElseGet()`

The difference is pretty subtle and if you dont pay much attention then you will keep it using in a wrong way.

Best way to understand the difference between orElse() and orElseGet() is that orElse() will always be executed if the Optional<T> is null or not, But orElseGet() will only be executed when Optional<T> is null.

The dictionary meaning of orElse is :- execute the part when something is not present, but here it contradicts, see the below example:

    Optional<String> nonEmptyOptional = Optional.of("Vishwa Ratna");
    String value = nonEmptyOptional.orElse(iAmStillExecuted());

    public static String iAmStillExecuted(){
    System.out.println("nonEmptyOptional is not NULL,still I am being executed");
    return "I got executed";
    }

Output: nonEmptyOptional is not NULL,still I am being executed

    Optional<String> emptyOptional = Optional.ofNullable(null);
    String value = emptyOptional.orElse(iAmStillExecuted());
    public static String iAmStillExecuted(){
    System.out.println("emptyOptional is NULL, I am being executed, it is normal as
    per dictionary");
    return "I got executed";
    }

Output: emptyOptional is NULL, I am being executed, it is normal as per dictionary

For orElseGet() , The method goes as per dictionary meaning, The orElseGet() part will be executed only when the Optional is null.

Benchmarks:

+--------------------+------+-----+------------+-------------+-------+
| Benchmark          | Mode | Cnt | Score      | Error       | Units |
+--------------------+------+-----+------------+-------------+-------+
| orElseBenchmark    | avgt | 20  | 60934.425  | ± 15115.599 | ns/op |
+--------------------+------+-----+------------+-------------+-------+
| orElseGetBenchmark | avgt | 20  | 3.798      | ± 0.030     | ns/op |
+--------------------+------+-----+------------+-------------+-------+

Remarks: orElseGet() has clearly outperformed orElse() for our particular example.

Hope it clears the doubts of people like me who wants the very basic ground example :)

display: flex

.container {
  display: flex;
  justify-content: center;
}

Notes:

max-width & margin

You can horizontally center a block-level element by assigning a fixed width and setting margin-right and margin-left to auto.

.container ul {
  /* for IE below version 7 use `width` instead of `max-width` */
  max-width: 800px;
  margin-right: auto;
  margin-left: auto;
}

Notes:

  • No container needed
  • Requires (maximum) width of the centered element to be known

IE9+: transform: translatex(-50%) & left: 50%

This is similar to the quirky centering method which uses absolute positioning and negative margins.

.container {
  position: relative;
}

.container ul {
  position: absolute;
  left: 50%;
  transform: translatex(-50%);
}

Notes:

  • The centered element will be removed from document flow. All elements will completely ignore of the centered element.
  • This technique allows vertical centering by using top instead of left and translateY() instead of translateX(). The two can even be combined.
  • Browser support: transform2d

IE8+: display: table & margin

Just like the first solution, you use auto values for right and left margins, but don’t assign a width. If you don’t need to support IE7 and below, this is better suited, although it feels kind of hacky to use the table property value for display.

.container ul {
  display: table;
  margin-right: auto;
  margin-left: auto;
}

IE8+: display: inline-block & text-align

Centering an element just like you would do with regular text is possible as well. Downside: You need to assign values to both a container and the element itself.

.container {
  text-align: center;
}

.container ul {
  display: inline-block;

  /* One most likely needs to realign flow content */
  text-align: initial;
}

Notes:

  • Does not require to specify a (maximum) width
  • Aligns flow content to the center (potentially unwanted side effect)
  • Works kind of well with a dynamic number of menu items (i.e. in cases where you can’t know the width a single item will take up)

How to preventDefault on anchor tags?

What you should do, is omit the href attribute entirely.

If you look at the source code for the a element directive (which is a part of the Angular core), it states at line 29 - 31:

if (!element.attr(href)) {
    event.preventDefault();
}

Which means Angular already is solving the issue of links without a href. The only issue you still have is the css problem. You can still apply the pointer style to anchors that have ng-clicks, e.g.:

a[ng-click] {
    /* Styles for anchors without href but WITH ng-click */
    cursor: pointer;
}

So, you could even make your site more accessible by marking real links with a subtle, different styling then links that perform functions.

Happy coding!

Adding a column to a dataframe in R

Even if that's a 7 years old question, people new to R should consider using the data.table, package.

A data.table is a data.frame so all you can do for/to a data.frame you can also do. But many think are ORDERS of magnitude faster with data.table.

vec <- 1:10
library(data.table)
DT <- data.table(start=c(1,3,5,7), end=c(2,6,7,9))
DT[,new:=apply(DT,1,function(row) mean(vec[ row[1] : row[2] ] ))]

You have a typo in your xml; it should be:

that's "@color" without the 's'.

Importing a GitHub project into Eclipse

Using the command line is an option, and would remove the need for an Eclipse Plugin. First, create a directory to hold the project.

mkdir myGitRepo
cd myGitRepo

Clone the desired repository in the directory you just created.

git clone https://github.com/JonasHelming/gitTutorial.git

Then open Eclipse and select the directory you created (myGitRepo) as the Eclipse Workspace.

Don't worry that the Project Explorer is empty, Eclipse can't recognize the source files yet.

Lastly, create a new Java project with the exact same name as the project you pulled. In this case, it was 'gitTutorial'.

File -> New -> Java Project

At this point, the project's sub directories should contain the files pulled from Github. Take a look at the following post in my blog for a more detailed explanation.

Regular Expressions- Match Anything

/.*/ works great if there are no line breaks. If it has to match line breaks, here are some solutions:

Solution Description
/.*/s /s (dot all flag) makes . (wildcard character) match anything, including line breaks. Throw in an * (asterisk), and it will match everything. Read more.
/[\s\S]*/ \s (whitespace metacharacter) will match any whitespace character (space; tab; line break; ...), and \S (opposite of \s) will match anything that is not a whitespace character. * (asterisk) will match all occurrences of the character set (Encapsulated by []). Read more.

convert a char* to std::string

I would like to mention a new method which uses the user defined literal s. This isn't new, but it will be more common because it was added in the C++14 Standard Library.

Largely superfluous in the general case:

string mystring = "your string here"s;

But it allows you to use auto, also with wide strings:

auto mystring = U"your UTF-32 string here"s;

And here is where it really shines:

string suffix;
cin >> suffix;
string mystring = "mystring"s + suffix;

Difference between "git add -A" and "git add ."

This answer only applies to Git version 1.x. For Git version 2.x, see other answers.

Summary:

  • git add -A stages all changes

  • git add . stages new files and modifications, without deletions (on the current directory and its subdirectories).

  • git add -u stages modifications and deletions, without new files

Detail:

git add -A is equivalent to git add .; git add -u.

The important point about git add . is that it looks at the working tree and adds all those paths to the staged changes if they are either changed or are new and not ignored, it does not stage any 'rm' actions.

git add -u looks at all the already tracked files and stages the changes to those files if they are different or if they have been removed. It does not add any new files, it only stages changes to already tracked files.

git add -A is a handy shortcut for doing both of those.

You can test the differences out with something like this (note that for Git version 2.x your output for git add . git status will be different):

git init
echo Change me > change-me
echo Delete me > delete-me
git add change-me delete-me
git commit -m initial

echo OK >> change-me

echo Add me > add-me

Group By X, Y means put all those with the same values for both X and Y in the one group.

To illustrate using an example, let's say we have the following table, to do with who is attending what subject at a university:

Table: Subject_Selection

+---------+----------+----------+
| Subject | Semester | Attendee |
+---------+----------+----------+
| ITB001  |        1 | John     |
| ITB001  |        1 | Bob      |
| ITB001  |        1 | Mickey   |
| ITB001  |        2 | Jenny    |
| ITB001  |        2 | James    |
| MKB114  |        1 | John     |
| MKB114  |        1 | Erica    |
+---------+----------+----------+

When you use a group by on the subject column only; say:

select Subject, Count(*)
from Subject_Selection
group by Subject

You will get something like:

+---------+-------+
| Subject | Count |
+---------+-------+
| ITB001  |     5 |
| MKB114  |     2 |
+---------+-------+

...because there are 5 entries for ITB001, and 2 for MKB114

If we were to group by two columns:

select Subject, Semester, Count(*)
from Subject_Selection
group by Subject, Semester

we would get this:

+---------+----------+-------+
| Subject | Semester | Count |
+---------+----------+-------+
| ITB001  |        1 |     3 |
| ITB001  |        2 |     2 |
| MKB114  |        1 |     2 |
+---------+----------+-------+

This is because, when we group by two columns, it is saying "Group them so that all of those with the same Subject and Semester are in the same group, and then calculate all the aggregate functions (Count, Sum, Average, etc.) for each of those groups". In this example, this is demonstrated by the fact that, when we count them, there are three people doing ITB001 in semester 1, and two doing it in semester 2. Both of the people doing MKB114 are in semester 1, so there is no row for semester 2 (no data fits into the group "MKB114, Semester 2")

Hopefully that makes sense.

How to change permissions for a folder and its subfolders/files in one step?

You want to make sure that appropriate files and directories are chmod-ed/permissions for those are appropriate. For all directories you want

find /opt/lampp/htdocs -type d -exec chmod 711 {} \;

And for all the images, JavaScript, CSS, HTML...well, you shouldn't execute them. So use

chmod 644 img/* js/* html/*

But for all the logic code (for instance PHP code), you should set permissions such that the user can't see that code:

chmod 600 file

Google drive limit number of download

It looks like that this limitation can be avoided if you use the following URL pattern:

https://googledrive.com/host/file-id

For your case the download URL will look like this - https://googledrive.com/host/0ByvXJAlpPqQPYWNqY0V3MGs0Ujg

Please keep in mind that this method works only if file is shared with "Public on the web" option.

How do you install and run Mocha, the Node.js testing module? Getting "mocha: command not found" after install

"Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation" error (mscorlib)

I'd suggest checking for an inner exception. If there isn't one, check your logs for the exception that occurred immediately prior to this one.

This isn't a web-specific exception, I've also encountered it in desktop-app development. In short, what's happening is that the thread receiving this exception is running some asynchronous code (via Invoke(), e.g.) and that code that's being run asynchronously is exploding with an exception. This target invocation exception is the aftermath of that failure.

If you haven't already, place some sort of exception logging wrapper around the asynchronous callbacks that are being invoked when you trigger this error. Event handlers, for instance. That ought to help you track down the problem.

Good luck!

Can you delete multiple branches in one command with Git?

Powershell Solution:

If you're running windows, you can use PowerShell to remove multiple branches at once...

git branch -D ((git branch | Select-String -Pattern '^\s*3\.2\..*') | foreach{$_.ToString().Trim()})
//this will remove all branches starting with 3.2.

git branch -D ((git branch | Select-String -Pattern 'feature-*') | foreach{$_.ToString().Trim()})
// this will delete all branches that contains the word "feature-" as a substring.

You can also fine tune how the pattern matching should work using Powershell's Select-String command. Take a look at powershell docs.

How to send characters in PuTTY serial communication only when pressing enter?

The settings you need are "Local echo" and "Line editing" under the "Terminal" category on the left.

To get the characters to display on the screen as you enter them, set "Local echo" to "Force on".

To get the terminal to not send the command until you press Enter, set "Local line editing" to "Force on".

PuTTY Line discipline options

Explanation:

From the PuTTY User Manual (Found by clicking on the "Help" button in PuTTY):

4.3.8 ‘Local echo’

With local echo disabled, characters you type into the PuTTY window are not echoed in the window by PuTTY. They are simply sent to the server. (The server might choose to echo them back to you; this can't be controlled from the PuTTY control panel.)

Some types of session need local echo, and many do not. In its default mode, PuTTY will automatically attempt to deduce whether or not local echo is appropriate for the session you are working in. If you find it has made the wrong decision, you can use this configuration option to override its choice: you can force local echo to be turned on, or force it to be turned off, instead of relying on the automatic detection.

4.3.9 ‘Local line editing’ Normally, every character you type into the PuTTY window is sent immediately to the server the moment you type it.

If you enable local line editing, this changes. PuTTY will let you edit a whole line at a time locally, and the line will only be sent to the server when you press Return. If you make a mistake, you can use the Backspace key to correct it before you press Return, and the server will never see the mistake.

Since it is hard to edit a line locally without being able to see it, local line editing is mostly used in conjunction with local echo (section 4.3.8). This makes it ideal for use in raw mode or when connecting to MUDs or talkers. (Although some more advanced MUDs do occasionally turn local line editing on and turn local echo off, in order to accept a password from the user.)

Some types of session need local line editing, and many do not. In its default mode, PuTTY will automatically attempt to deduce whether or not local line editing is appropriate for the session you are working in. If you find it has made the wrong decision, you can use this configuration option to override its choice: you can force local line editing to be turned on, or force it to be turned off, instead of relying on the automatic detection.

Putty sometimes makes wrong choices when "Auto" is enabled for these options because it tries to detect the connection configuration. Applied to serial line, this is a bit trickier to do.

How to escape JSON string?

I have used following code to escape the string value for json. You need to add your '"' to the output of the following code:

public static string EscapeStringValue(string value)
{
    const char BACK_SLASH = '\\';
    const char SLASH = '/';
    const char DBL_QUOTE = '"';

    var output = new StringBuilder(value.Length);
    foreach (char c in value)
    {
        switch (c)
        {
            case SLASH:
                output.AppendFormat("{0}{1}", BACK_SLASH, SLASH);
                break;

            case BACK_SLASH:
                output.AppendFormat("{0}{0}", BACK_SLASH);
                break;

            case DBL_QUOTE:
                output.AppendFormat("{0}{1}",BACK_SLASH,DBL_QUOTE);
                break;

            default:
                output.Append(c);
                break;
        }
    }

    return output.ToString();
}

Failed to find target with hash string 'android-25'

I got similar problem

1: I tried to resolve with the answer which is marked correct above But I was not able to get the system setting which was quit amazing (On MacBook).

Most of the time such errors & issues comes because of replacing your grade file with other grade file ,due which gradel does not sync properly and while building the project issue comes . The issue is bascially related to non syncing for platform tools

Solution a: Go to File and then to Your project strucutre -modules -app-Properties -build tool version -click on options which is required for your project (if required build tool version not there chose any other). This will sync the grade file and now you can go to gradel and change target version and build tool version as per your requirement .you will prompted to download the required platform tool to sync it , now click on install tool version and let project to build

Solution b: Try Anuja Ans if you can get option of system setting and install platform tool.

How can I wrap or break long text/word in a fixed width span?

Just to extend the pratical scope of the question and as an appendix to the given answers: Sometimes one might find it necessary to specify the selectors a little bit more.

By defining the the full span as display:inline-block you might have a hard time displaying images.

Therefore I prefer to define a span like so:

span {
  display:block;
  width:150px;
  word-wrap:break-word;
}
p span, a span,
h1 span, h2 span, h3 span, h4 span, h5 span {
  display:inline-block;
}
img{
  display:block;
}

MySQL: Cloning a MySQL database on the same MySql instance

As mentioned in Greg's answer, mysqldump db_name | mysql new_db_name is the free, safe, and easy way to transfer data between databases. However, it's also really slow.

If you're looking to backup data, can't afford to lose data (in this or other databases), or are using tables other than innodb, then you should use mysqldump.

If you're looking for something for development, have all of your databases backed up elsewhere, and are comfortable purging and reinstalling mysql (possibly manually) when everything goes wrong, then I might just have the solution for you.

I couldn't find a good alternative, so I built a script to do it myself. I spent a lot of time getting this to work the first time and it honestly terrifies me a little to make changes to it now. Innodb databases were not meant to copied and pasted like this. Small changes cause this to fail in magnificent ways. I haven't had a problem since I finalized the code, but that doesn't mean you won't.

Systems tested on (but may still fail on):

  • Ubuntu 16.04, default mysql, innodb, separate files per table
  • Ubuntu 18.04, default mysql, innodb, separate files per table

What it does

  1. Gets sudo privilege and verifies you have enough storage space to clone the database
  2. Gets root mysql privileges
  3. Creates a new database named after the current git branch
  4. Clones structure to new database
  5. Switches into recovery mode for innodb
  6. Deletes default data in new database
  7. Stops mysql
  8. Clones data to new database
  9. Starts mysql
  10. Links imported data in new database
  11. Switches out of recovery mode for innodb
  12. Restarts mysql
  13. Gives mysql user access to database
  14. Cleans up temporary files

How it compares with mysqldump

On a 3gb database, using mysqldump and mysql would take 40-50 minutes on my machine. Using this method, the same process would only take ~8 minutes.

How we use it

We have our SQL changes saved alongside our code and the upgrade process is automated on both production and development, with each set of changes making a backup of the database to restore if there's errors. One problem we ran into was when we were working on a long term project with database changes, and had to switch branches in the middle of it to fix a bug or three.

In the past, we used a single database for all branches, and would have to rebuild the database whenever we switched to a branch that wasn't compatible with the new database changes. And when we switched back, we'd have to run the upgrades again.

We tried mysqldump to duplicate the database for different branches, but the wait time was too long (40-50 minutes), and we couldn't do anything else in the meantime.

This solution shortened the database clone time to 1/5 the time (think coffee and bathroom break instead of a long lunch).

Common tasks and their time

Switching between branches with incompatible database changes takes 50+ minutes on a single database, but no time at all after the initial setup time with mysqldump or this code. This code just happens to be ~5 times faster than mysqldump.

Here are some common tasks and roughly how long they would take with each method:

Create feature branch with database changes and merge immediately:

  • Single database: ~5 minutes
  • Clone with mysqldump: 50-60 minutes
  • Clone with this code: ~18 minutes

Create feature branch with database changes, switch to master for a bugfix, make an edit on the feature branch, and merge:

  • Single database: ~60 minutes
  • Clone with mysqldump: 50-60 minutes
  • Clone with this code: ~18 minutes

Create feature branch with database changes, switch to master for a bugfix 5 times while making edits on the feature branch inbetween, and merge:

  • Single database: ~4 hours, 40 minutes
  • Clone with mysqldump: 50-60 minutes
  • Clone with this code: ~18 minutes

The code

Do not use this unless you've read and understood everything above.

What is a non-capturing group in regular expressions?

Open your Google Chrome devTools and then Console tab: and type this:

"Peace".match(/(\w)(\w)(\w)/)

Run it and you will see:

["Pea", "P", "e", "a", index: 0, input: "Peace", groups: undefined]

The JavaScript RegExp engine capture three groups, the items with indexes 1,2,3. Now use non-capturing mark to see the result.

"Peace".match(/(?:\w)(\w)(\w)/)

The result is:

["Pea", "e", "a", index: 0, input: "Peace", groups: undefined]

This is obvious what is non capturing group.

Float vs Decimal in ActiveRecord

In Rails 3.2.18, :decimal turns into :integer when using SQLServer, but it works fine in SQLite. Switching to :float solved this issue for us.

The lesson learned is "always use homogeneous development and deployment databases!"

Updating records codeigniter

In your Controller

public function updtitle()
{
    $data = array(
        'table_name' => 'your_table_name_to_update', // pass the real table name
        'id' => $this->input->post('id'),
        'title' => $this->input->post('title')
    );

    $this->load->model('Updmodel'); // load the model first
    if($this->Updmodel->upddata($data)) // call the method from the model
    {
        // update successful
    }
    else
    {
        // update not successful
    }

}

In Your Model

public function upddata($data) {
    extract($data);
    $this->db->where('emp_no', $id);
    $this->db->update($table_name, array('title' => $title));
    return true;
}

The active record query is similar to

"update $table_name set title='$title' where emp_no=$id"

Styling JQuery UI Autocomplete

You can overwrite the classes in your own css using !important, e.g. if you want to get rid of the rounded corners.

.ui-corner-all
{
border-radius: 0px !important;
}

Could not load file or assembly 'System.Net.Http.Formatting' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the path specified

In my case, none of the above worked, however, replacing 5.2.3.0 with 4.0.0.0 did solve the problem.

Git: copy all files in a directory from another branch

If there are no spaces in paths, and you are interested, like I was, in files of specific extension only, you can use

git checkout otherBranch -- $(git ls-tree --name-only -r otherBranch | egrep '*.java')

org.hibernate.MappingException: Unknown entity: annotations.Users

Instead of using HibernateUtil.java, to create sessionfactory object, you should use this:

SessionFactory sessionFactory=new AnnotationConfiguration().configure().buildSessionFactory();

Because in order to avoid the exception, you'll have to declare the class object in HibernateUtil.java file as configuration.addAnnotatedClass(Student_Info.class); which looks dumb because we have provided the entry already in hibernate.cfg.xml file.

To use the AnnotationConfiguration class you'll have to add a jar to your project build path: http://www.java2s.com/Code/Jar/h/Downloadhibernate353jar.htm

Check that an email address is valid on iOS

To check if a string variable contains a valid email address, the easiest way is to test it against a regular expression. There is a good discussion of various regex's and their trade-offs at regular-expressions.info.

Here is a relatively simple one that leans on the side of allowing some invalid addresses through: ^[A-Z0-9._%+-]+@[A-Z0-9.-]+\.[A-Z]{2,6}$

How you can use regular expressions depends on the version of iOS you are using.

iOS 4.x and Later

You can use NSRegularExpression, which allows you to compile and test against a regular expression directly.

iOS 3.x

Does not include the NSRegularExpression class, but does include NSPredicate, which can match against regular expressions.

NSString *emailRegex = ...;
NSPredicate *emailTest = [NSPredicate predicateWithFormat:@"SELF MATCHES %@", emailRegex];
BOOL isValid = [emailTest evaluateWithObject:checkString];

Read a full article about this approach at cocoawithlove.com.

iOS 2.x

Does not include any regular expression matching in the Cocoa libraries. However, you can easily include RegexKit Lite in your project, which gives you access to the C-level regex APIs included on iOS 2.0.

What does EntityManager.flush do and why do I need to use it?

The EntityManager.flush() operation can be used the write all changes to the database before the transaction is committed. By default JPA does not normally write changes to the database until the transaction is committed. This is normally desirable as it avoids database access, resources and locks until required. It also allows database writes to be ordered, and batched for optimal database access, and to maintain integrity constraints and avoid deadlocks. This means that when you call persist, merge, or remove the database DML INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE is not executed, until commit, or until a flush is triggered.

Expand/collapse section in UITableView in iOS

I've used a NSDictionary as datasource, this looks like a lot of code, but it's really simple and works very well! how looks here

I created a enum for the sections

typedef NS_ENUM(NSUInteger, TableViewSection) {

    TableViewSection0 = 0,
    TableViewSection1,
    TableViewSection2,
    TableViewSectionCount
};

sections property:

@property (nonatomic, strong) NSMutableDictionary * sectionsDisctionary;

A method returning my sections:

-(NSArray <NSNumber *> * )sections{

    return @[@(TableViewSection0), @(TableViewSection1), @(TableViewSection2)];
}

And then setup my data soruce:

-(void)loadAndSetupData{

    self.sectionsDisctionary = [NSMutableDictionary dictionary];

    NSArray * sections = [self sections];

    for (NSNumber * section in sections) {

    NSArray * sectionObjects = [self objectsForSection:section.integerValue];

    [self.sectionsDisctionary setObject:[NSMutableDictionary dictionaryWithDictionary:@{@"visible" : @YES, @"objects" : sectionObjects}] forKey:section];
    }
}

-(NSArray *)objectsForSection:(NSInteger)section{

    NSArray * objects;

    switch (section) {

        case TableViewSection0:

            objects = @[] // objects for section 0;
            break;

        case TableViewSection1:

            objects = @[] // objects for section 1;
            break;

        case TableViewSection2:

            objects = @[] // objects for section 2;
            break;

        default:
            break;
    }

    return objects;
}

The next methods, will help you to know when a section is opened, and how to respond to tableview datasource:

Respond the section to datasource:

/**
 * Asks the delegate for a view object to display in the header of the specified section of the table view.
 *
 * @param tableView The table-view object asking for the view object.
 * @param section An index number identifying a section of tableView .

    [header addGestureRecognizer:[[UITapGestureRecognizer alloc] initWithTarget:self action:@selector(handleTapGesture:)]];
    header.title = headerName;
    header.collapsed = [self sectionIsOpened:section];

    return header;
}

    BOOL sectionOpened = [self sectionIsOpened:section];
    return sectionOpened ? [[self objectsForSection:section] count] : 0;
}

Tools:

    return [self.sectionsDisctionary objectForKey:asectionKey];
}

 @param section the section to check

 @return YES if is opened
 */
-(BOOL)sectionIsOpened:(NSInteger)section{

    NSDictionary * asection = [self sectionAtIndex:section];

        [self.tableView reloadSections:[NSIndexSet indexSetWithIndex:section] withRowAnimation:UITableViewRowAnimationFade];

Error: Cannot match any routes. URL Segment: - Angular 2

Solved myself. Done some small structural changes also. Route from Component1 to Component2 is done by a single <router-outlet>. Component2 to Comonent3 and Component4 is done by multiple <router-outlet name= "xxxxx"> The resulting contents are :

Component1.html

<nav>
    <a routerLink="/two" class="dash-item">Go to 2</a>
</nav>
    <router-outlet></router-outlet>

Component2.html

 <a [routerLink]="['/two', {outlets: {'nameThree': ['three']}}]">In Two...Go to 3 ...       </a>
 <a [routerLink]="['/two', {outlets: {'nameFour': ['four']}}]">   In Two...Go to 4 ...</a>

 <router-outlet name="nameThree"></router-outlet>
 <router-outlet name="nameFour"></router-outlet>

The '/two' represents the parent component and ['three']and ['four'] represents the link to the respective children of component2 . Component3.html and Component4.html are the same as in the question.

Comparing Class Types in Java

It prints true on my machine. And it should, otherwise nothing in Java would work as expected. (This is explained in the JLS: 4.3.4 When Reference Types Are the Same)

Do you have multiple classloaders in place?

Ah, and in response to this comment:

I realise I have a typo in my question. I should be like this:

MyImplementedObject obj = new MyImplementedObject ();
if(obj.getClass() == MyObjectInterface.class) System.out.println("true");

MyImplementedObject implements MyObjectInterface So in other words, I am comparing it with its implemented objects.

OK, if you want to check that you can do either:

if(MyObjectInterface.class.isAssignableFrom(obj.getClass()))

or the much more concise

if(obj instanceof MyobjectInterface)

multiprocessing.Pool: When to use apply, apply_async or map?

Here is an overview in a table format in order to show the differences between Pool.apply, Pool.apply_async, Pool.map and Pool.map_async. When choosing one, you have to take multi-args, concurrency, blocking, and ordering into account:

                  | Multi-args   Concurrence    Blocking     Ordered-results
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Pool.map | no yes yes yes
Pool.map_async | no yes no yes
Pool.apply | yes no yes no
Pool.apply_async | yes yes no no
Pool.starmap | yes yes yes yes
Pool.starmap_async| yes          yes            no           no

Notes:

  • Pool.imap and Pool.imap_async – lazier version of map and map_async.

  • Pool.starmap method, very much similar to map method besides it acceptance of multiple arguments.

  • Async methods submit all the processes at once and retrieve the results once they are finished. Use get method to obtain the results.

  • Pool.map(or Pool.apply)methods are very much similar to Python built-in map(or apply). They block the main process until all the processes complete and return the result.

Examples:

map

Is called for a list of jobs in one time

results = pool.map(func, [1, 2, 3])

apply

Can only be called for one job

for x, y in [[1, 1], [2, 2]]:
    results.append(pool.apply(func, (x, y)))

def collect_result(result):
    results.append(result)

map_async

Is called for a list of jobs in one time

pool.map_async(func, jobs, callback=collect_result)

apply_async

Can only be called for one job and executes a job in the background in parallel

for x, y in [[1, 1], [2, 2]]:
    pool.apply_async(worker, (x, y), callback=collect_result)

starmap

Is a variant of pool.map which support multiple arguments

pool.starmap(func, [(1, 1), (2, 1), (3, 1)])

starmap_async

A combination of starmap() and map_async() that iterates over iterable of iterables and calls func with the iterables unpacked. Returns a result object.

pool.starmap_async(calculate_worker, [(1, 1), (2, 1), (3, 1)], callback=collect_result)

How to load a UIView using a nib file created with Interface Builder

In swift

Actually my resolution to this problem was, to load the view in a viewDidLoad in my CustonViewController where I wanted to use the view like that:

myAccessoryView = NSBundle.mainBundle().loadNibNamed("MyAccessoryView", owner: self, options: nil)[0] as! MyAccessoryView

Don't load the view in a loadView() method! The loadView method serves for loading the view for your custom ViewController.

<div id="container" style="width: 100%; height: 100%; position:absolute"></div>

The chart fits perfect to the browser even if I resize it. You can change the percentage according to your needs.

Clone() vs Copy constructor- which is recommended in java

Clone is broken, so dont use it.

THE CLONE METHOD of the Object class is a somewhat magical method that does what no pure Java method could ever do: It produces an identical copy of its object. It has been present in the primordial Object superclass since the Beta-release days of the Java compiler*; and it, like all ancient magic, requires the appropriate incantation to prevent the spell from unexpectedly backfiring

Prefer a method that copies the object

Foo copyFoo (Foo foo){
  Foo f = new Foo();
  //for all properties in FOo
  f.set(foo.get());
  return f;
}

How to extract extension from filename string in Javascript?

Better to use the following; Works always!

var ext =  fileName.split('.').pop();

This will return the extension without a dot prefix. You can add "." + ext to check against the extensions you wish to support!

increment date by one month

(date('d') > 28) ? date("mdY", strtotime("last day of next month")) : date("mdY", strtotime("+1 month"));

This will compensate for February and the other 31 day months. You could of course do a lot more checking to to get more exact for 'this day next month' relative date formats (which does not work sadly, see below), and you could just as well use DateTime.

Both DateInterval('P1M') and strtotime("+1 month") are essentially blindly adding 31 days regardless of the number of days in the following month.

  • 2010-01-31 => March 3rd
  • 2012-01-31 => March 2nd (leap year)

Check, using jQuery, if an element is 'display:none' or block on click

There are two methods in jQuery to check for visibility:

$("#selector").is(":visible")

and

$("#selector").is(":hidden")

You can also execute commands based on visibility in the selector;

$("#selector:visible").hide()

or

$("#selector:hidden").show()

Query to get the names of all tables in SQL Server 2008 Database

Please use the following query to list the tables in your DB.

select name from sys.Tables

In Addition, you can add a where condition, to skip system generated tables and lists only user created table by adding type ='U'

Ex : select name from sys.Tables where type ='U'

Unable to read repository at http://download.eclipse.org/releases/indigo

Also try if in the eclipse paths there is some duplicated
Luna - http://download.eclipse.org/releases/luna
Luna - http://download.eclipse.org/releases/luna/1234567...

Try both of them, one may work.

In my case, with 2 eclispes installed, in one of them the path
Luna - http://download.eclipse.org/releases/luna

works, in the other one, i must select:
Luna - http://download.eclipse.org/releases/luna/123456...

In both the internal browser can access to internet. Both are Luna (but one is RCM, the other one i don't remember).

#define arraysize(arr) sizeof(ArraySizeHelper(arr))

The difference between Classes, Objects, and Instances

In java, the objects are spawned on heap memory. These require reference to be pointed and used in our application. The reference has the memory location of the object with which we can use the objects in our application. A reference in short is nothing but a name of the variable which stores the address of the object instantiated on a memory location.

An instance is a general term for object. FYI, Object is a class.

For Example,

Class A{

}

A ref = new A();

For the above code snippet, ref is the reference for an object of class A generated on heap.

How to tag an older commit in Git?

OK, You can simply do:

git tag -a <tag> <commit-hash>

So if you want to add tag: 1.0.2 to commit e50f795, just simply do:

git tag -a 1.0.2 e50f795

Also you add a message at the end, using -m, something like this:

git tag -a 1.0.2 e50f795 -m "my message"

After all, you need to push it to the remote, to do that, simply do:

git push origin 1.0.2

If you have many tags which you don't want to mention them one by one, just simply do:

git push origin --tags

to push all tags together...

Also, I created the steps in the image below, for more clarification of the steps: creating tag on a commit hash

You can also dd the tag in Hub or using tools like SourceTree, to avoid the previous steps, I logged-in to my Bitbucket in this case and doing it from there:

  1. Go to your branch and find the commit you want to add the tag to and click on it:

find your commit in bitbucket

  1. In the commit page, on the right, find where it says No tags and click on the + icon:

find where it says No tags

  1. In the tag name box, add your tag:

add tag name

  1. Now you see that the tag has successfully created:

How can I change a button's color on hover?

Seems your selector is wrong, try using:

a.button:hover{

How do I left align these Bootstrap form items?

Instead of altering the original bootstrap css class create a new css file that will override the default style.

Make sure you include the new css file after including the bootstrap.css file.

In the new css file do

.form-horizontal .control-label{
   text-align:left !important;
}

Python unittest passing arguments

This is my solution:

# your test class
class TestingClass(unittest.TestCase):

    # This will only run once for all the tests within this class
    @classmethod
    def setUpClass(cls) -> None:
       if len(sys.argv) > 1:
          cls.email = sys.argv[1]

    def testEmails(self):
        assertEqual(self.email, "[email protected]")

if __name__ == "__main__":
    unittest.main()

you could have a runner.py file with something like this:

# your runner.py
loader = unittest.TestLoader()
tests = loader.discover('.') # note that this will find all your tests, you can also provide the name of the package e.g. `loader.discover('tests')
runner = unittest.TextTestRunner(verbose=3)
result = runner.run(tests

with the above code, you should be to run your tests with runner.py [email protected]

How can I check if a string is a number?

int.TryPasrse() Methode is the best way so if the value was string you will never have an exception , instead of the TryParse Methode return to you bool value so you will know if the parse operation succeeded or failed

string yourText = "2";
int num;
bool res = int.TryParse(yourText, out num);
if (res == true)
{
    // the operation succeeded and you got the number in num parameter
}
else
{
   // the operation failed
}

Display encoded html with razor

I just got another case to display backslash \ with Razor and Java Script.

My @Model.AreaName looks like Name1\Name2\Name3 so when I display it all backslashes are gone and I see Name1Name2Name3

I found solution to fix it:

var areafullName =  JSON.parse("@Html.Raw(HttpUtility.JavaScriptStringEncode(JsonConvert.SerializeObject(Model.AreaName)))");

Don't forget to add @using Newtonsoft.Json on top of chtml page.

Customize the Authorization HTTP header

You can create your own custom auth schemas that use the Authorization: header - for example, this is how OAuth works.

As a general rule, if servers or proxies don't understand the values of standard headers, they will leave them alone and ignore them. It is creating your own header keys that can often produce unexpected results - many proxies will strip headers with names they don't recognise.

Having said that, it is possibly a better idea to use cookies to transmit the token, rather than the Authorization: header, for the simple reason that cookies were explicitly designed to carry custom values, whereas the specification for HTTP's built in auth methods does not really say either way - if you want to see exactly what it does say, have a look here.

The other point about this is that many HTTP client libraries have built-in support for Digest and Basic auth but may make life more difficult when trying to set a raw value in the header field, whereas they will all provide easy support for cookies and will allow more or less any value within them.

How do I merge my local uncommitted changes into another Git branch?

The answers given so far are not ideal because they require a lot of needless work resolving merge conflicts, or they make too many assumptions which are frequently false. This is how to do it perfectly. The link is to my own site.

How to Commit to a Different Branch in git

You have uncommited changes on my_branch that you want to commit to master, without committing all the changes from my_branch.

Example

git merge master
git stash -u
git checkout master
git stash apply
git reset
git add example.js
git commit
git checkout .
git clean -f -d
git checkout my_branch
git merge master
git stash pop

Explanation

Start by merging master into your branch, since you'll have to do that eventually anyway, and now is the best time to resolve any conflicts.

The -u option (aka --include-untracked) in git stash -u prevents you from losing untracked files when you later do git clean -f -d within master.

After git checkout master it is important that you do NOT git stash pop, because you will need this stash later. If you pop the stash created in my_branch and then do git stash in master, you will cause needless merge conflicts when you later apply that stash in my_branch.

git reset unstages everything resulting from git stash apply. For example, files that have been modified in the stash but do not exist in master get staged as "deleted by us" conflicts.

git checkout . and git clean -f -d discard everything that isn't committed: all changes to tracked files, and all untracked files and directories. They are already saved in the stash and if left in master would cause needless merge conflicts when switching back to my_branch.

The last git stash pop will be based on the original my_branch, and so will not cause any merge conflicts. However, if your stash contains untracked files which you have committed to master, git will complain that it "Could not restore untracked files from stash". To resolve this conflict, delete those files from your working tree, then git stash pop, git add ., and git reset.

Storing Images in DB - Yea or Nay?

One thing you need to keep in mind is the size of your data set. I believe that Dillie-O was the only one who even remotely hit the point.

If you have a small, single user, consumer app then I would say DB. I have a DVD management app that uses the file system (in Program Files at that) and it is a PIA to backup. I wish EVERY time that they would store them in a db, and let me choose where to save that file.

For a larger commercial application then I would start to change my thinking. I used to work for a company that developed the county clerks information management application. We would store the images on disk, in an encoded format [to deal with FS problems with large numbers of files] based on the county assigned instrument number. This was useful on another front as the image could exist before the DB record (due to their workflow).

As with most things: 'It depends on what you are doing'

Loop inside React JSX

@jacefarm If I understand right you can use this code:

<tbody>
    { new Array(numrows).fill(<ObjectRow/>) }
</tbody>

Either you can use this code:

<tbody>
   { new Array(numrows).fill('').map((item, ind) => <ObjectRow key={ind}/>) }
</tbody>

And this:

<tbody>
    new Array(numrows).fill(ObjectRow).map((Item, ind) => <Item key={ind}/>)
</tbody>

How to write UPDATE SQL with Table alias in SQL Server 2008?

The syntax for using an alias in an update statement on SQL Server is as follows:

UPDATE Q
SET Q.TITLE = 'TEST'
FROM HOLD_TABLE Q
WHERE Q.ID = 101;

The alias should not be necessary here though.

How can I copy a file from a remote server to using Putty in Windows?

One of the putty tools is pscp.exe; it will allow you to copy files from your remote host.

Are list-comprehensions and functional functions faster than "for loops"?

If you check the info on python.org, you can see this summary:

Version Time (seconds)
Basic loop 3.47
Eliminate dots 2.45
Local variable & no dots 1.79
Using map function 0.54

But you really should read the above article in details to understand the cause of the performance difference.

I also strongly suggest you should time your code by using timeit. At the end of the day, there can be a situation where, for example, you may need to break out of for loop when a condition is met. It could potentially be faster than finding out the result by calling map.

Python Requests - No connection adapters

You need to include the protocol scheme:

'http://192.168.1.61:8080/api/call'

Without the http:// part, requests has no idea how to connect to the remote server.

Note that the protocol scheme must be all lowercase; if your URL starts with HTTP:// for example, it won’t find the http:// connection adapter either.

PHP cURL HTTP PUT

You have mixed 2 standard.

The function http_build_query($filedata) is only for "Content-Type: application/x-www-form-urlencoded", or none.

How to modify a specified commit?

Interactive rebase with --autosquash is something I frequently use when I need to fixup previous commits deeper in the history. It essentially speeds up the process that ZelluX's answer illustrates, and is especially handy when you have more than one commit you need to edit.

From the documentation:

--autosquash

When the commit log message begins with "squash! …?" (or "fixup! …?"), and there is a commit whose title begins with the same …?, automatically modify the todo list of rebase -i so that the commit marked for squashing comes right after the commit to be modified

Assume you have a history that looks like this:

$ git log --graph --oneline
* b42d293 Commit3
* e8adec4 Commit2
* faaf19f Commit1

and you have changes that you want to amend to Commit2 then commit your changes using

$ git commit -m "fixup! Commit2"

alternatively you can use the commit-sha instead of the commit message, so "fixup! e8adec4 or even just a prefix of the commit message.

Then initiate an interactive rebase on the commit before

$ git rebase e8adec4^ -i --autosquash

your editor will open with the commits already correctly ordered

pick e8adec4 Commit2
fixup 54e1a99 fixup! Commit2
pick b42d293 Commit3

all you need to do is save and exit

openssl s_client -cert: Proving a client certificate was sent to the server

I know this is an old question but it does not yet appear to have an answer. I've duplicated this situation, but I'm writing the server app, so I've been able to establish what happens on the server side as well. The client sends the certificate when the server asks for it and if it has a reference to a real certificate in the s_client command line. My server application is set up to ask for a client certificate and to fail if one is not presented. Here is the command line I issue:

Yourhostname here -vvvvvvvvvv s_client -connect <hostname>:443 -cert client.pem -key cckey.pem -CAfile rootcert.pem -cipher ALL:!ADH:!LOW:!EXP:!MD5:@STRENGTH -tls1 -state

When I leave out the "-cert client.pem" part of the command the handshake fails on the server side and the s_client command fails with an error reported. I still get the report "No client certificate CA names sent" but I think that has been answered here above.

The short answer then is that the server determines whether a certificate will be sent by the client under normal operating conditions (s_client is not normal) and the failure is due to the server not recognizing the CA in the certificate presented. I'm not familiar with many situations in which two-way authentication is done although it is required for my project.

You are clearly sending a certificate. The server is clearly rejecting it.

The missing information here is the exact manner in which the certs were created and the way in which the provider loaded the cert, but that is probably all wrapped up by now.

Do C# Timers elapse on a separate thread?

Each elapsed event will fire in the same thread unless a previous Elapsed is still running.

So it handles the collision for you

try putting this in a console

static void Main(string[] args)
{
    Debug.WriteLine(Thread.CurrentThread.ManagedThreadId);
    var timer = new Timer(1000);
    timer.Elapsed += timer_Elapsed;
    timer.Start();
    Console.ReadLine();
}

static void timer_Elapsed(object sender, ElapsedEventArgs e)
{
    Thread.Sleep(2000);
    Debug.WriteLine(Thread.CurrentThread.ManagedThreadId);
}

you will get something like this

10
6
12
6
12

where 10 is the calling thread and 6 and 12 are firing from the bg elapsed event. If you remove the Thread.Sleep(2000); you will get something like this

10
6
6
6
6

Since there are no collisions.

But this still leaves u with a problem. if u are firing the event every 5 seconds and it takes 10 seconds to edit u need some locking to skip some edits.

How to pass Multiple Parameters from ajax call to MVC Controller

You're making an HTTP POST, but trying to pass parameters with the GET query string syntax. In a POST, the data are passed as named parameters and do not use the param=value&foo=bar syntax. Using jQuery's ajax method lets you create a javascript object with the named parameters, like so:

$.ajax({
  url: '/Home/SaveChart',
  type: 'POST',
  async: false,
  dataType: 'text',
  processData: false,
  data: {
      input: JSON.stringify(IVRInstant.data),
      name: $("#wrkname").val()
  },
  success: function (data) { }
});

batch file - counting number of files in folder and storing in a variable

FOR /f "delims=" %%i IN ('attrib.exe ./*.* ^| find /v "File not found - " ^| find /c /v ""') DO SET myVar=%%i
ECHO %myVar%

This is based on the (much) earlier post that points out that the count would be wrong for an empty directory if you use DIR rather than attrib.exe.

For anyone else who got stuck on the syntax for putting the command in a FOR loop, enclose the command in single quotes (assuming it doesn't contain them) and escape pipes with ^.

Horizontal line using HTML/CSS

Or change it to height: 0.1em; orso, minimal size of anything displayable is 1px.

The 0.05 em you are using means, get the current font size in pixels of this elements and give me 5% of it. Which for 12 pixels returns 0.6 pixels which is too little to display. if you would turn up the font size of the div to atleast 20pixels it would display fine. I suppose Chrome doesnt round up sizes to be atleast 1pixel where other browsers do.

Default settings Raspberry Pi /etc/network/interfaces

Assuming that you have a DHCP server running at your router I would use:

After changing the file issue (as root):

/etc/init.d/networking restart

Matplotlib/pyplot: How to enforce axis range?

Calling p.plot after setting the limits is why it is rescaling. You are correct in that turning autoscaling off will get the right answer, but so will calling xlim() or ylim() after your plot command.

I use this quite a lot to invert the x axis, I work in astronomy and we use a magnitude system which is backwards (ie. brighter stars have a smaller magnitude) so I usually swap the limits with

lims = xlim()
xlim([lims[1], lims[0]])

Inheritance with base class constructor with parameters

I could be wrong, but I believe since you are inheriting from foo, you have to call a base constructor. Since you explicitly defined the foo constructor to require (int, int) now you need to pass that up the chain.

public bar(int a, int b) : base(a, b)
{
     c = a * b;
}

This will initialize foo's variables first and then you can use them in bar. Also, to avoid confusion I would recommend not naming parameters the exact same as the instance variables. Try p_a or something instead, so you won't accidentally be handling the wrong variable.

Displaying better error message than "No JSON object could be decoded"

Just hit the same issue and in my case the problem was related to BOM (byte order mark) at the beginning of the file.

json.tool would refuse to process even empty file (just curly braces) until i removed the UTF BOM mark.

What I have done is:

  • opened my json file with vim,
  • removed byte order mark (set nobomb)
  • save file

This resolved the problem with json.tool. Hope this helps!

How to hide column of DataGridView when using custom DataSource?

I have noticed that if utilised progrmmatically it renders incomplete (entire form simply doesn't "paint" anything) if used before panel1.Controls.Add(dataGridView); then dataGridView.Columns["ID"].Visible = false; will break the entire form and make it blank, so to get round that set this AFTER EG:

 panel1.Controls.Add(dataGridView);
 dataGridView.Columns["ID"].Visible = false;
 //works

 dataGridView.Columns["ID"].Visible = false;
 panel1.Controls.Add(dataGridView);
 //fails miserably

Is there a difference between `continue` and `pass` in a for loop in python?

Yes, they do completely different things. pass simply does nothing, while continue goes on with the next loop iteration. In your example, the difference would become apparent if you added another statement after the if: After executing pass, this further statement would be executed. After continue, it wouldn't.

>>> a = [0, 1, 2]
>>> for element in a:
...     if not element:
...         pass
...     print element
...
0
1
2
>>> for element in a:
...     if not element:
...         continue
...     print element
...

How to delete/remove nodes on Firebase

As others have noted the call to .remove() is asynchronous. We should all be aware nothing happens 'instantly', even if it is at the speed of light.

What you mean by 'instantly' is that the next line of code should be able to execute after the call to .remove(). With asynchronous operations the next line may be when the data has been removed, it may not - it is totally down to chance and the amount of time that has elapsed.

.remove() takes one parameter a callback function to help deal with this situation to perform operations after we know that the operation has been completed (with or without an error). .push() takes two params, a value and a callback just like .remove().

Here is your example code with modifications:

ref = new Firebase("myfirebase.com")

ref.push({key:val}, function(error){
  //do stuff after push completed
});

// deletes all data pushed so far
ref.remove(function(error){
  //do stuff after removal
});

How to merge a specific commit in Git

'git cherry-pick' should be your answer here.

Apply the change introduced by an existing commit.

Do not forget to read bdonlan's answer about the consequence of cherry-picking in this post:
"Pull all commits from a branch, push specified commits to another", where:

A-----B------C
 \
  \
   D

becomes:

A-----B------C
 \
  \
   D-----C'

The problem with this commit is that git considers commits to include all history before them

Where C' has a different SHA-1 ID.
Likewise, cherry picking a commit from one branch to another basically involves generating a patch, then applying it, thus losing history that way as well.

This changing of commit IDs breaks git's merging functionality among other things (though if used sparingly there are heuristics that will paper over this).
More importantly though, it ignores functional dependencies - if C actually used a function defined in B, you'll never know.

mysql update query with sub query

You can check your eav_attributes table to find the relevant attribute IDs for each image role, such as; eav_attributes

Then you can use those to set whichever role to any other role for all products like so;

UPDATE catalog_product_entity_varchar AS `v` INNER JOIN (SELECT `value`,`entity_id` FROM `catalog_product_entity_varchar` WHERE `attribute_id`=86) AS `j` ON `j`.`entity_id`=`v`.entity_id SET `v`.`value`=j.`value` WHERE `v`.attribute_id = 85 AND `v`.`entity_id`=`j`.`entity_id`

The above will set all your 'base' roles to the 'small' image of the same product.

Randomize numbers with jQuery?

Coding in Perl, I used the rand() function that generates the number at random and wanted only 1, 2, or 3 to be randomly selected. Due to Perl printing out the number one when doing "1 + " ... so I also did a if else statement that if the number generated zero, run the function again, and it works like a charm.

printing out the results will always give a random number of either 1, 2, or 3.

That is just another idea and sure people will say that is newbie stuff but at the same time, I am a newbie but it works. My issue was when printing out my stuff, it kept spitting out that 1 being used to start at 1 and not zero for indexing.

Custom style to jquery ui dialogs

The solution only solves part of the problem, it may let you style the container and contents but doesn't let you change the titlebar. I developed a workaround of sorts but adding an id to the dialog div, then using jQuery .prev to change the style of the div which is the previous sibling of the dialog's div. This works because when jQueryUI creates the dialog, your original div becomes a sibling of the new container, but the title div is a the immediately previous sibling to your original div but neither the container not the title div has an id to simplify selecting the div.

HTML

<button id="dialog1" class="btn btn-danger">Warning</button>
<div title="Nothing here, really" id="nonmodal1">
  Nothing here
</div>

You can use CSS to style the main section of the dialog but not the title

.custom-ui-widget-header-warning {
  background: #EBCCCC;
  font-size: 1em;
}

You need some JS to style the title

$(function() {
                   $("#nonmodal1").dialog({
                     minWidth: 400,
                     minHeight: 'auto',
                     autoOpen: false,
                     dialogClass: 'custom-ui-widget-header-warning',
                     position: {
                       my: 'center',
                       at: 'left'
                     }
                   });

                   $("#dialog1").click(function() {
                     if ($("#nonmodal1").dialog("isOpen") === true) {
                       $("#nonmodal1").dialog("close");
                     } else {
                       $("#nonmodal1").dialog("open").prev().css('background','#D9534F');

                     }
                   });
    });

The example only shows simple styling (background) but you can make it as complex as you wish.

You can see it in action here:

Change the color of a bullet in a html list?

The bullet gets its color from the text. So if you want to have a different color bullet than text in your list you'll have to add some markup.

Wrap the list text in a span:

<ul>
  <li><span>item #1</span></li>
  <li><span>item #2</span></li>
  <li><span>item #3</span></li>
</ul>

Then modify your style rules slightly:

li {
  color: red; /* bullet color */
}
li span {
  color: black; /* text color */
}

How to set a CheckBox by default Checked in ASP.Net MVC

In your controller action rendering the view you could set the As property of your model to true:

model.As = true;
return View(model);

and in your view simply:

@Html.CheckBoxFor(model => model.As);

Now since the As property of the model is set to true, the CheckBoxFor helper will generate a checked checkbox.

convert an enum to another type of enum

I wrote this answer because I believe there are fundamental issues with the majority of answers already provided, and the ones that are acceptable are incomplete.

Mapping by enum integer value

This approach is bad simply because it assumes that the integer values of both MyGender and TheirGender will always remain comparable. In practice, it is very rare that you can guarantee this even within a single project, let alone a separate service.

The approach we take should be something that can be used for other enum-mapping cases. We should never assume that one enum identically relates to another - especially when we may not have control over one or another.

Mapping by enum string value

This is a little better, as MyGender.Male will still convert to TheirGender.Male even if the integer representation is changed, but still not ideal.

I would discourage this approach as it assumes the name values will not change, and will always remain identical. Considering future enhancements, you cannot guarantee that this will be the case; consider if MyGender.NotKnown was added. It is likely that you would want this to map to TheirGender.Unknown, but this would not be supported.

Also, it is generally bad to assume that one enum equates to another by name, as this might not be the case in some contexts. As mentioned earlier, an ideal approach would work for other enum-mapping requirements.

Explicitly mapping enums

This approach explictly maps MyGender to TheirGender using a switch statement.

This is better as:

  • Covers the case where the underlying integer value changes.
  • Covers the case where the enum names changes (i.e. no assumptions - the developer will need to update the code to handle the scenario - good).
  • Handles cases where enum values cannot be mapped.
  • Handles cases where new enum values are added and cannot be mapped by default (again, no assumptions made - good).
  • Can easily be updated to support new enum values for either MyGender or TheirGender.
  • The same approach can be taken for all enum mapping requirements.

Assuming we have the following enums:

public enum MyGender
{
    Male = 0,
    Female = 1,
}

public enum TheirGender
{
    Male = 0,
    Female = 1,
    Unknown = 2,
}

We can create the following function to "convert from their enum to mine":

public MyGender GetMyGender(TheirGender theirGender)
{
    switch (theirGender)
    {
        case TheirGender.Male:
            return MyGender.Male;

        case TheirGender.Female:
            return MyGender.Female;

        default:
            throw new InvalidEnumArgumentException(nameof(theirGender), (int)theirGender, typeof(TheirGender));
    }
}

A previous answer suggested returning a nullable enum (TheirGender?) and returning null for any unmatched input. This is bad; null is not the same as an unknown mapping. If the input cannot be mapped, an exception should be thrown, else the method should be named more explictly to the behaviour:

public TheirGender? GetTheirGenderOrDefault(MyGender myGender)
{
    switch (myGender)
    {
        case MyGender.Male:
            return TheirGender.Male;

        case MyGender.Female:
            return TheirGender.Female;

        default:
            return default(TheirGender?);
    }
}

Additional considerations

If it is likely that this method will be required more than once in various parts of the solution, you could consider creating an extension method for this:

public static class TheirGenderExtensions
{
    public static MyGender GetMyGender(this TheirGender theirGender)
    {
        switch (theirGender)
        {
            case TheirGender.Male:
                return MyGender.Male;

            case TheirGender.Female:
                return MyGender.Female;

            default:
                throw new InvalidEnumArgumentException(nameof(theirGender), (int)theirGender, typeof(TheirGender));
        }
    }
}

If you are using C#8, you can use the syntax for switch expressions and expression bodies to neaten up the code:

public static class TheirGenderExtensions
{
    public static MyGender GetMyGender(this TheirGender theirGender)
        => theirGender switch
        {
            TheirGender.Male => MyGender.Male,
            TheirGender.Female => MyGender.Female,
            _ => throw new InvalidEnumArgumentException(nameof(theirGender), (int)theirGender, typeof(TheirGender))
        };
}

If you will only ever be mapping the enums within a single class, then an extension method may be overkill. In this case, the method can be declared within the class itself.

Furthermore, if the mapping will only ever take place within a single method, then you can declare this as a local function:

public static void Main()
{
    Console.WriteLine(GetMyGender(TheirGender.Male));
    Console.WriteLine(GetMyGender(TheirGender.Female));
    Console.WriteLine(GetMyGender(TheirGender.Unknown));

    static MyGender GetMyGender(TheirGender theirGender)
        => theirGender switch
        {
            TheirGender.Male => MyGender.Male,
            TheirGender.Female => MyGender.Female,
            _ => throw new InvalidEnumArgumentException(nameof(theirGender), (int)theirGender, typeof(TheirGender))
        };
}

Here's a dotnet fiddle link with the above example.

tl;dr:

Do not:

  • Map enums by integer value
  • Map enums by name

Do:

  • Map enums explicitly using a switch statement
  • Throw an exception when a value cannot be mapped rather than returning null
  • Consider using extension methods

MySQL: Convert INT to DATETIME

force line break in html table cell

It's hard to answer you without the HTML, but in general you can put:

style="width: 50%;"

On either the table cell, or place a div inside the table cell, and put the style on that.

But one problem is "50% of what?" It's 50% of the parent element which may not be what you want.

Post a copy of your HTML and maybe you'll get a better answer.

This will call the clock.js which you put in the root of your web site.

How do you test running time of VBA code?

Unless your functions are very slow, you're going to need a very high-resolution timer. The most accurate one I know is QueryPerformanceCounter. Google it for more info. Try pushing the following into a class, call it CTimer say, then you can make an instance somewhere global and just call .StartCounter and .TimeElapsed

When do I need a fb:app_id or fb:admins?

I think the documentation is reasonably helpful!

If you read it again, it says that adding open graph elements on your website will make your website act as a facebook page and you'll get the ability to publish updates to them etc.

So I think it's up to you - you can either just have a page with no OG elements, which is less work but also less 'rewarding' for you.

If you do use og, then set type to: blog

Finally: fb:admins or fb:app_id - A comma-separated list of either the Facebook IDs of page administrators or a Facebook Platform application ID. At a minimum, include only your own Facebook ID.

So just put your own fbid in there. As a tip, you can easily get this by looking at the url of your profile photo on facebook.

How to set a dropdownlist item as selected in ASP.NET?

You can use the FindByValue method to search the DropDownList for an Item with a Value matching the parameter.

dropdownlist.ClearSelection();
dropdownlist.Items.FindByValue(value).Selected = true;

Alternatively you can use the FindByText method to search the DropDownList for an Item with Text matching the parameter.

Before using the FindByValue method, don't forget to reset the DropDownList so that no items are selected by using the ClearSelection() method. It clears out the list selection and sets the Selected property of all items to false. Otherwise you will get the following exception.

"Cannot have multiple items selected in a DropDownList"

What is the C# equivalent of friend?

Take a very common pattern. Class Factory makes Widgets. The Factory class needs to muck about with the internals, because, it is the Factory. Both are implemented in the same file and are, by design and desire and nature, tightly coupled classes -- in fact, Widget is really just an output type from factory.

In C++, make the Factory a friend of Widget class.

In C#, what can we do? The only decent solution that has occurred to me is to invent an interface, IWidget, which only exposes the public methods, and have the Factory return IWidget interfaces.

This involves a fair amount of tedium - exposing all the naturally public properties again in the interface.

JQuery Number Formatting

I wrote a JavaScript analogue of a PHP function number_format on a base of Abe Miessler addCommas function. Could be usefull.

number_format = function (number, decimals, dec_point, thousands_sep) {
        number = number.toFixed(decimals);

        var nstr = number.toString();
        nstr += '';
        x = nstr.split('.');
        x1 = x[0];
        x2 = x.length > 1 ? dec_point + x[1] : '';
        var rgx = /(\d+)(\d{3})/;

        while (rgx.test(x1))
            x1 = x1.replace(rgx, '$1' + thousands_sep + '$2');

        return x1 + x2;
    }

For example:

var some_number = number_format(42661.55556, 2, ',', ' '); //gives 42 661,56

jquery data selector

If you also use jQueryUI, you get a (simple) version of the :data selector with it that checks for the presence of a data item, so you can do something like $("div:data(view)"), or $( this ).closest(":data(view)").

See http://api.jqueryui.com/data-selector/ . I don't know for how long they've had it, but it's there now!

How to run TypeScript files from command line?

Run the below commands and install the required packages globally:

npm install -g ts-node
npm install -g typescript

Now run the following command to execute a typescript file:

ts-node typescript-file.ts

Returning a regex match in VBA (excel)

You need to access the matches in order to get at the SDI number. Here is a function that will do it (assuming there is only 1 SDI number per cell).

For the regex, I used "sdi followed by a space and one or more numbers". You had "sdi followed by a space and zero or more numbers". You can simply change the + to * in my pattern to go back to what you had.

Function ExtractSDI(ByVal text As String) As String

Dim result As String
Dim allMatches As Object
Dim RE As Object
Set RE = CreateObject("vbscript.regexp")

RE.pattern = "(sdi \d+)"
RE.Global = True
RE.IgnoreCase = True
Set allMatches = RE.Execute(text)

If allMatches.count <> 0 Then
    result = allMatches.Item(0).submatches.Item(0)
End If

ExtractSDI = result

End Function

If a cell may have more than one SDI number you want to extract, here is my RegexExtract function. You can pass in a third paramter to seperate each match (like comma-seperate them), and you manually enter the pattern in the actual function call:

Ex) =RegexExtract(A1, "(sdi \d+)", ", ")

Here is:

Function RegexExtract(ByVal text As String, _
                      ByVal extract_what As String, _
                      Optional seperator As String = "") As String

Dim i As Long, j As Long
Dim result As String
Dim allMatches As Object
Dim RE As Object
Set RE = CreateObject("vbscript.regexp")

RE.pattern = extract_what
RE.Global = True
Set allMatches = RE.Execute(text)

For i = 0 To allMatches.count - 1
    For j = 0 To allMatches.Item(i).submatches.count - 1
        result = result & seperator & allMatches.Item(i).submatches.Item(j)
    Next
Next

If Len(result) <> 0 Then
    result = Right(result, Len(result) - Len(seperator))
End If

RegexExtract = result

End Function

*Please note that I have taken "RE.IgnoreCase = True" out of my RegexExtract, but you could add it back in, or even add it as an optional 4th parameter if you like.

Insert/Update/Delete with function in SQL Server

Just another alternative using sp_executesql (tested only in SQL 2016). As previous posts noticed, atomicity must be handled elsewhere.

CREATE FUNCTION [dbo].[fn_get_service_version_checksum2]
(
    @ServiceId INT
)
RETURNS INT
AS
BEGIN
DECLARE @Checksum INT;
SELECT @Checksum = dbo.fn_get_service_version(@ServiceId);
DECLARE @LatestVersion INT = (SELECT MAX(ServiceVersion) FROM [ServiceVersion] WHERE ServiceId = @ServiceId);
-- Check whether the current version already exists and that it's the latest version.
IF EXISTS(SELECT TOP 1 1 FROM [ServiceVersion] WHERE ServiceId = @ServiceId AND [Checksum] = @Checksum AND ServiceVersion = @LatestVersion)
    RETURN @LatestVersion;
-- Insert the new version to the table.
EXEC sp_executesql N'
INSERT INTO [ServiceVersion] (ServiceId, ServiceVersion, [Checksum], [Timestamp])
VALUES (@ServiceId, @LatestVersion + 1, @Checksum, GETUTCDATE());',
N'@ServiceId INT = NULL, @LatestVersion INT = NULL, @Checksum INT = NULL',
@ServiceId = @ServiceId,
@LatestVersion = @LatestVersion,
@Checksum = @Checksum
;
RETURN @LatestVersion + 1;
END;

Hide div element when screen size is smaller than a specific size

You have to use max-width instead of min-width.

<style>
    @media (max-width: 1026px) {
        #test {
            display: none;
        }
    }
</style>
<div id="test">
    <h1>Test</h1>

Read input stream twice

ByteArrayInputStream ins = new ByteArrayInputStream("Hello".getBytes());
System.out.println("ins.available() at begining:: " + ins.available());
ins.mark(0);
// Read input stream for some operations
System.out.println("ins.available() after reading :: " + ins.available());
    ins.reset();
    System.out.println("ins.available() after resetting :: " + ins.available());
    // ins is ready for reading once again.

Sending JWT token in the headers with Postman

  1. Open postman.
  2. go to "header" field.
  3. there one can see "key value" blanks.
  4. in key type "Authorization".
  5. in value type "Bearer(space)your_access_token_value".

Done!

Well, note that the request contains binary data, so I'm not posting the request as such - instead, I've converted every non-printable-ascii character into a dot (".").

How to generate a GUID in Oracle?

It is not clear what you mean by auto-generate a guid into an insert statement but at a guess, I think you are trying to do something like the following:

INSERT INTO MY_TAB (ID, NAME) VALUES (SYS_GUID(), 'Adams');
INSERT INTO MY_TAB (ID, NAME) VALUES (SYS_GUID(), 'Baker');

In that case I believe the ID column should be declared as RAW(16);

I am doing this off the top of my head. I don't have an Oracle instance handy to test against, but I think that is what you want.

How is Java platform-independent when it needs a JVM to run?

Edit: Not quite. See comments below.

Java doesn't directly run on anything. It needs to be converted to bytecode by a JVM.

Because JVMs exist for all major platforms, this makes Java platform-independent THROUGH the JVM.

dispatch_after - GCD in Swift?

This worked for me.

Swift 3:

let time1 = 8.23
let time2 = 3.42

// Delay 2 seconds

DispatchQueue.main.asyncAfter(deadline: .now() + 2.0) {
    print("Sum of times: \(time1 + time2)")
}

Objective-C:

CGFloat time1 = 3.49;
CGFloat time2 = 8.13;

// Delay 2 seconds

dispatch_after(dispatch_time(DISPATCH_TIME_NOW, (int64_t)(2.0 * NSEC_PER_SEC)), dispatch_get_main_queue(), ^{
    CGFloat newTime = time1 + time2;
    NSLog(@"New time: %f", newTime);
});

Removing Spaces from a String in C?

Here's a very compact, but entirely correct version:

do while(isspace(*s)) s++; while(*d++ = *s++);

And here, just for my amusement, are code-golfed versions that aren't entirely correct, and get commenters upset.

If you can risk some undefined behavior, and never have empty strings, you can get rid of the body:

while(*(d+=!isspace(*s++)) = *s);

Heck, if by space you mean just space character:

while(*(d+=*s++!=' ')=*s);

Don't use that in production :)

How can a add a row to a data frame in R?

If you want to make an empty data frame and add contents in a loop, the following may help:

# Number of students in class
student.count <- 36

# Gather data about the students
student.age <- sample(14:17, size = student.count, replace = TRUE)
student.gender <- sample(c('male', 'female'), size = student.count, replace = TRUE)
student.marks <- sample(46:97, size = student.count, replace = TRUE)

# Create empty data frame
student.data <- data.frame()

# Populate the data frame using a for loop
for (i in 1 : student.count) {
    # Get the row data
    age <- student.age[i]
    gender <- student.gender[i]
    marks <- student.marks[i]

    # Populate the row
    new.row <- data.frame(age = age, gender = gender, marks = marks)

    # Add the row
    student.data <- rbind(student.data, new.row)
}

# Print the data frame
student.data

Hope it helps :)

How to set String's font size, style in Java using the Font class?

Font myFont = new Font("Serif", Font.BOLD, 12);, then use a setFont method on your components like

JButton b = new JButton("Hello World");
b.setFont(myFont);

Creating an object: with or without `new`

Both do different things.

The first creates an object with automatic storage duration. It is created, used, and then goes out of scope when the current block ({ ... }) ends. It's the simplest way to create an object, and is just the same as when you write int x = 0;

The second creates an object with dynamic storage duration and allows two things:

  • Fine control over the lifetime of the object, since it does not go out of scope automatically; you must destroy it explicitly using the keyword delete;

  • Creating arrays with a size known only at runtime, since the object creation occurs at runtime. (I won't go into the specifics of allocating dynamic arrays here.)

Neither is preferred; it depends on what you're doing as to which is most appropriate.

Use the former unless you need to use the latter.

Your C++ book should cover this pretty well. If you don't have one, go no further until you have bought and read, several times, one of these.

Good luck.

Your original code is broken, as it deletes a char array that it did not new. In fact, nothing newd the C-style string; it came from a string literal. deleteing that is an error (albeit one that will not generate a compilation error, but instead unpredictable behaviour at runtime).

Usually an object should not have the responsibility of deleteing anything that it didn't itself new. This behaviour should be well-documented. In this case, the rule is being completely broken.

Accessing a Dictionary.Keys Key through a numeric index

To expand on Daniels post and his comments regarding the key, since the key is embedded within the value anyway, you could resort to using a KeyValuePair<TKey, TValue> as the value. The main reasoning for this is that, in general, the Key isn't necessarily directly derivable from the value.

Then it'd look like this:

public sealed class CustomDictionary<TKey, TValue>
  : KeyedCollection<TKey, KeyValuePair<TKey, TValue>>
{
  protected override TKey GetKeyForItem(KeyValuePair<TKey, TValue> item)
  {
    return item.Key;
  }
}

To use this as in the previous example, you'd do:

CustomDictionary<string, int> custDict = new CustomDictionary<string, int>();

custDict.Add(new KeyValuePair<string, int>("key", 7));

int valueByIndex = custDict[0].Value;
int valueByKey = custDict["key"].Value;
string keyByIndex = custDict[0].Key;

How to check if a file exists in the Documents directory in Swift?

It's pretty user friendly. Just work with NSFileManager's defaultManager singleton and then use the fileExistsAtPath() method, which simply takes a string as an argument, and returns a Bool, allowing it to be placed directly in the if statement.

let paths = NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(.DocumentDirectory, .UserDomainMask, true)
let documentDirectory = paths[0] as! String
let myFilePath = documentDirectory.stringByAppendingPathComponent("nameOfMyFile")

let manager = NSFileManager.defaultManager()
if (manager.fileExistsAtPath(myFilePath)) {
    // it's here!!
}

Note that the downcast to String isn't necessary in Swift 2.

How to make Git "forget" about a file that was tracked but is now in .gitignore?

  1. Update your .gitignore file – for instance, add a folder you don't want to track to .gitignore.

  2. git rm -r --cached . – Remove all tracked files, including wanted and unwanted. Your code will be safe as long as you have saved locally.

  3. git add . – All files will be added back in, except those in .gitignore.

How do I convert special UTF-8 chars to their iso-8859-1 equivalent using javascript?

The problem is that once the page is served up, the content is going to be in the encoding described in the content-type meta tag. The content in "wrong" encoding is already garbled.

You're best to do this on the server before serving up the page. Or as I have been know to say: UTF-8 end-to-end or die.

C# DateTime to UTC Time without changing the time

Use the DateTime.ToUniversalTime method.

SignalR Console app example

First of all, you should install SignalR.Host.Self on the server application and SignalR.Client on your client application by nuget :

PM> Install-Package SignalR.Hosting.Self -Version 0.5.2

PM> Install-Package Microsoft.AspNet.SignalR.Client

Then add the following code to your projects ;)

(run the projects as administrator)

Server console app:

using System;
using SignalR.Hubs;

namespace SignalR.Hosting.Self.Samples {
    class Program {
        static void Main(string[] args) {
            string url = "http://127.0.0.1:8088/";
            var server = new Server(url);

            // Map the default hub url (/signalr)
            server.MapHubs();

            // Start the server
            server.Start();

Error while sending QUERY packet

You may also have this error if the variable wait_timeout is too low.

If so, you may set it higher like that:

SET GLOBAL wait_timeout=10;

This was the solution for the same error in my case.

100% width table overflowing div container

Well, given your constraints, I think setting overflow: scroll; on the .page div is probably your only option. 280 px is pretty narrow, and given your font size, word wrapping alone isn't going to do it. Some words are just long and can't be wrapped. You can either reduce your font size drastically or go with overflow: scroll.

Sort JavaScript object by key

There's a great project by @sindresorhus called sort-keys that works awesome.

You can check its source code here:

https://github.com/sindresorhus/sort-keys

Or you can use it with npm:

$ npm install --save sort-keys

Here are also code examples from his readme

const sortKeys = require('sort-keys');

sortKeys({c: 0, a: 0, b: 0});
//=> {a: 0, b: 0, c: 0}

sortKeys({b: {b: 0, a: 0}, a: 0}, {deep: true});
//=> {a: 0, b: {a: 0, b: 0}}

sortKeys({c: 0, a: 0, b: 0}, {
    compare: (a, b) => -a.localeCompare(b)
});
//=> {c: 0, b: 0, a: 0}

Connection refused to MongoDB errno 111

Thanks for the help everyone!

Turns out that it was an iptable conflict. Two rules listing the port open (which resulted in a closed port).

However, one of the comments by aka and another by manu2013 were problems that I would have run into, if not for the conflict.

So! Always remember to edit the /etc/mongod.conf file and set your bind_ip = 0.0.0.0 in order to make connections externally.

Also, make sure that you don't have conflicting rules in your iptable for the port mongo wants (see link on mongodb's site to set up your iptables properly).
