How do I clear this setInterval inside a function?

Simplest way I could think of: add a class.

Simply add a class (on any element) and check inside the interval if it's there. This is more reliable, customisable and cross-language than any other way, I believe.

HTML 5 input type="number" element for floating point numbers on Chrome

Try <input type="number" step="any" />

It won't have validation problems and the arrows will have step of "1"

Constraint validation: When the element has an allowed value step, and the result of applying the algorithm to convert a string to a number to the string given by the element's value is a number, and that number subtracted from the step base is not an integral multiple of the allowed value step, the element is suffering from a step mismatch.

The following range control only accepts values in the range 0..1, and allows 256 steps in that range:

<input name=opacity type=range min=0 max=1 step=0.00392156863>

The following control allows any time in the day to be selected, with any accuracy (e.g. thousandth-of-a-second accuracy or more):

<input name=favtime type=time step=any>

Normally, time controls are limited to an accuracy of one minute.

"Char cannot be dereferenced" error

A char doesn't have any methods - it's a Java primitive. You're looking for the Character wrapper class.

The usage would be:

correct PHP headers for pdf file download

Example 2 on w3schools shows what you are trying to achieve.

<?php
header("Content-type:application/pdf");

// It will be called downloaded.pdf
header("Content-Disposition:attachment;filename='downloaded.pdf'");

// The PDF source is in original.pdf
readfile("original.pdf");
?>

Also remember that,

It is important to notice that header() must be called before any actual output is sent (In PHP 4 and later, you can use output buffering to solve this problem)

SQL query to select distinct row with minimum value

  select id, MIN(point) MinPoint
  from table T
  group by AccountId
  ) NewT on T.id = NewT.id and T.point = NewT.MinPoint

How to customize a Spinner in Android

Try this

i was facing lot of issues when i was trying other solution...... After lot of R&D now i got solution

  1. create custom_spinner.xml in layout folder and paste this code

     <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <RelativeLayout
    xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
    android:orientation="vertical"
    android:layout_width="match_parent"
    android:layout_height="match_parent"
    android:background="@color/colorGray">
    <TextView
    android:id="@+id/tv_spinnervalue"
    android:layout_width="match_parent"
    android:layout_height="wrap_content"
    android:textColor="@color/colorWhite"
    android:gravity="center"
    android:layout_alignParentLeft="true"
    android:textSize="@dimen/_18dp"
    android:layout_marginTop="@dimen/_3dp"/>
    <ImageView
    android:layout_width="wrap_content"
    android:layout_height="wrap_content"
    android:layout_alignParentRight="true"
    android:background="@drawable/men_icon"/>
    </RelativeLayout>

  2. in your activity

    Spinner spinner =(Spinner)view.findViewById(R.id.sp_colorpalates);
    String[] years = {"1996","1997","1998","1998"};
    spinner.setAdapter(new SpinnerAdapter(this, R.layout.custom_spinner, years));

  3. create a new class of adapter

    public class SpinnerAdapter extends ArrayAdapter<String> {
    private String[] objects;

    public SpinnerAdapter(Context context, int textViewResourceId, String[] objects) {
        super(context, textViewResourceId, objects);
        this.objects=objects;
    }

    @Override
    public View getDropDownView(int position, View convertView, @NonNull ViewGroup parent) {
        return getCustomView(position, convertView, parent);
    }

    @NonNull
    @Override
    public View getView(int position, View convertView, @NonNull ViewGroup parent) {
        return getCustomView(position, convertView, parent);
    }

    private View getCustomView(final int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) {
        View row = LayoutInflater.from(parent.getContext()).inflate(R.layout.custom_spinner, parent, false);
        final TextView label=(TextView)row.findViewById(R.id.tv_spinnervalue);
        label.setText(objects[position]);
        return row;
    }
    }

how to remove empty strings from list, then remove duplicate values from a list

Android: Create a toggle button with image and no text

ToggleButton inherits from TextView so you can set drawables to be displayed at the 4 borders of the text. You can use that to display the icon you want on top of the text and hide the actual text

<ToggleButton
    android:id="@+id/toggleButton1"
    android:layout_width="wrap_content"
    android:layout_height="wrap_content"
    android:drawableTop="@android:drawable/ic_menu_info_details"
    android:gravity="center"
    android:textOff=""
    android:textOn=""
    android:textSize="0dp" />

The result compared to regular ToggleButton looks like

enter image description here

The seconds option is to use an ImageSpan to actually replace the text with an image. Looks slightly better since the icon is at the correct position but can't be done with layout xml directly.

You create a plain ToggleButton

<ToggleButton
    android:id="@+id/toggleButton3"
    android:layout_width="wrap_content"
    android:layout_height="wrap_content"
    android:checked="false" />

Then set the "text" programmatially

ToggleButton button = (ToggleButton) findViewById(R.id.toggleButton3);
ImageSpan imageSpan = new ImageSpan(this, android.R.drawable.ic_menu_info_details);
SpannableString content = new SpannableString("X");
content.setSpan(imageSpan, 0, 1, Spanned.SPAN_EXCLUSIVE_EXCLUSIVE);
button.setText(content);
button.setTextOn(content);
button.setTextOff(content);

The result here in the middle - icon is placed slightly lower since it takes the place of the text.

A SELECT statement that assigns a value to a variable must not be combined with data-retrieval operations

Column values from the SELECT statement are assigned into @low and @day local variables; the @adjustedLow value is not assigned into any variable and it causes the problem:

How can I parse JSON with C#?

I think the best answer that I've seen has been @MD_Sayem_Ahmed.

Your question is "How can I parse Json with C#", but it seems like you are wanting to decode Json. If you are wanting to decode it, Ahmed's answer is good.

If you are trying to accomplish this in ASP.NET Web Api, the easiest way is to create a data transfer object that holds the data you want to assign:

public class MyDto{
    public string Name{get; set;}
    public string Value{get; set;}
}

You have simply add the application/json header to your request (if you are using Fiddler, for example). You would then use this in ASP.NET Web API as follows:

//controller method -- assuming you want to post and return data
public MyDto Post([FromBody] MyDto myDto){
   MyDto someDto = myDto;
   /*ASP.NET automatically converts the data for you into this object
    if you post a json object as follows:
{
    "Name": "SomeName",
      "Value": "SomeValue"
}
*/
   //do some stuff
}

This helped me a lot when I was working in my Web Api and made my life super easy.

Remove trailing zeros

A very low level approach, but I belive this would be the most performant way by only using fast integer calculations (and no slow string parsing and culture sensitive methods):

public static decimal Normalize(this decimal d)
{
    int[] bits = decimal.GetBits(d);

    int sign = bits[3] & (1 << 31);
    int exp = (bits[3] >> 16) & 0x1f;

    uint a = (uint)bits[2]; // Top bits
    uint b = (uint)bits[1]; // Middle bits
    uint c = (uint)bits[0]; // Bottom bits

    while (exp > 0 && ((a % 5) * 6 + (b % 5) * 6 + c) % 10 == 0)
    {
        uint r;
        a = DivideBy10((uint)0, a, out r);
        b = DivideBy10(r, b, out r);
        c = DivideBy10(r, c, out r);
        exp--;
    }

    bits[0] = (int)c;
    bits[1] = (int)b;
    bits[2] = (int)a;
    bits[3] = (exp << 16) | sign;
    return new decimal(bits);
}

private static uint DivideBy10(uint highBits, uint lowBits, out uint remainder)
{
    ulong total = highBits;
    total <<= 32;
    total = total | (ulong)lowBits;

    remainder = (uint)(total % 10L);
    return (uint)(total / 10L);
}

How to make an autocomplete TextBox in ASP.NET?

Try this: .aspx page

<td>
<asp:TextBox ID="TextBox1" runat="server" AutoPostBack="True"OnTextChanged="TextBox1_TextChanged"></asp:TextBox>
<asp:AutoCompleteExtender ServiceMethod="GetCompletionList" MinimumPrefixLength="1"
   CompletionInterval="10" EnableCaching="false" CompletionSetCount="1" TargetControlID="TextBox1"
   ID="AutoCompleteExtender1" runat="server" FirstRowSelected="false">
      </asp:AutoCompleteExtender>

Now To auto populate from database :

public static List<string> GetCompletionList(string prefixText, int count)
    {
        return AutoFillProducts(prefixText);

    }

    private static List<string> AutoFillProducts(string prefixText)
    {
        using (SqlConnection con = new SqlConnection())
        {
            con.ConnectionString = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["Conn"].ConnectionString;
            using (SqlCommand com = new SqlCommand())
            {
                com.CommandText = "select ProductName from ProdcutMaster where " + "ProductName like @Search + '%'";
                com.Parameters.AddWithValue("@Search", prefixText);
                com.Connection = con;
                con.Open();
                List<string> countryNames = new List<string>();
                using (SqlDataReader sdr = com.ExecuteReader())
                {
                    while (sdr.Read())
                    {
                        countryNames.Add(sdr["ProductName"].ToString());
                    }
                }
                con.Close();
                return countryNames;
            }
        }
    }

Now:create a stored Procedure that fetches the Product details depending on the selected product from the Auto Complete Text Box.

Create Procedure GetProductDet
(
@ProductName varchar(50)
)
as
begin
Select BrandName,warranty,Price from ProdcutMaster where ProductName=@ProductName
End

Create a function name to get product details ::

private void GetProductMasterDet(string ProductName)
    {
        connection();
        com = new SqlCommand("GetProductDet", con);
        com.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure;
        com.Parameters.AddWithValue("@ProductName", ProductName);
        SqlDataAdapter da = new SqlDataAdapter(com);
        DataSet ds=new DataSet();
        da.Fill(ds);
        DataTable dt = ds.Tables[0];
        con.Close();
        //Binding TextBox From dataTable
        txtbrandName.Text =dt.Rows[0]["BrandName"].ToString();
        txtwarranty.Text = dt.Rows[0]["warranty"].ToString();
        txtPrice.Text = dt.Rows[0]["Price"].ToString();
    }

Auto post back should be true

<asp:TextBox ID="TextBox1" runat="server" AutoPostBack="True" OnTextChanged="TextBox1_TextChanged"></asp:TextBox>

Now, Just call this function

protected void TextBox1_TextChanged(object sender, EventArgs e)
  {
      //calling method and Passing Values
      GetProductMasterDet(TextBox1.Text);
  }

Difference in months between two dates

I wrote a function to accomplish this, because the others ways weren't working for me.

public string getEndDate (DateTime startDate,decimal monthCount)
{
    int y = startDate.Year;
    int m = startDate.Month;

    for (decimal  i = monthCount; i > 1; i--)
    {
        m++;
        if (m == 12)
        { y++;
            m = 1;
        }
    }
    return string.Format("{0}-{1}-{2}", y.ToString(), m.ToString(), startDate.Day.ToString());
}

Delete everything in a MongoDB database

if you want to delete only a database and its sub-collections use this :

  • use <database name>;
  • db.dropDatabase();

if you want to delete all the databases in mongo then use this :

db.adminCommand("listDatabases").databases.forEach(function(d)
             {
              if(d.name!="admin" && d.name!="local" && d.name!="config")
                {
                 db.getSiblingDB(d.name).dropDatabase();
                }
             }
          );

How to view file history in Git?

you could also use tig for a nice, ncurses-based git repository browser. To view history of a file:

Use jQuery to scroll to the bottom of a div with lots of text

Scrolling with animation:

Your DIV:

<div class='messageScrollArea' style='height: 100px;overflow: auto;'>
      Hello World! Hello World! Hello World! Hello World! Hello World! Hello
      Hello World! Hello World! Hello World! Hello World! Hello World! Hello
      Hello World! Hello World! Hello World! Hello World! Hello World! Hello
</div>

jQuery part:

jQuery(document).ready(function(){
    var $t = $('.messageScrollArea');
    $t.animate({"scrollTop": $('.messageScrollArea')[0].scrollHeight}, "slow");
});

Youtube - downloading a playlist - youtube-dl

The easiest thing to do is to create a file.txt file and pass the link url link so:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Lj1BF0Kn8c&list=PL9YFoJnn53xyf9GNZrtiraspAIKc80s1i

make sure to include the -a parameter in terminal:

youtube-dl -a file.txt

get number of columns of a particular row in given excel using Java

There are two Things you can do

use

int noOfColumns = sh.getRow(0).getPhysicalNumberOfCells();

or

int noOfColumns = sh.getRow(0).getLastCellNum();

There is a fine difference between them

  1. Option 1 gives the no of columns which are actually filled with contents(If the 2nd column of 10 columns is not filled you will get 9)
  2. Option 2 just gives you the index of last column. Hence done 'getLastCellNum()'

To switch from vertical split to horizontal split fast in Vim

Following Mark Rushakoff's tip above, here is my mapping:

" vertical to horizontal ( | -> -- )
noremap <c-w>-  <c-w>t<c-w>K
" horizontal to vertical ( -- -> | )
noremap <c-w>\|  <c-w>t<c-w>H
noremap <c-w>\  <c-w>t<c-w>H
noremap <c-w>/  <c-w>t<c-w>H

Edit: use Ctrl-w r to swap two windows if they are not in the good order.

Accessing member of base class

Working example. Notes below.

class Animal {
    constructor(public name) {
    }

    move(meters) {
        alert(this.name + " moved " + meters + "m.");
    }
}

class Snake extends Animal {
    move() {
        alert(this.name + " is Slithering...");
        super.move(5);
    }
}

class Horse extends Animal {
    move() {
        alert(this.name + " is Galloping...");
        super.move(45);
    }
}

var sam = new Snake("Sammy the Python");
var tom: Animal = new Horse("Tommy the Palomino");

sam.move();
tom.move(34);
  1. You don't need to manually assign the name to a public variable. Using public name in the constructor definition does this for you.

  2. You don't need to call super(name) from the specialised classes.

  3. Using this.name works.

Notes on use of super.

This is covered in more detail in section 4.9.2 of the language specification.

The behaviour of the classes inheriting from Animal is not dissimilar to the behaviour in other languages. You need to specify the super keyword in order to avoid confusion between a specialised function and the base class function. For example, if you called move() or this.move() you would be dealing with the specialised Snake or Horse function, so using super.move() explicitly calls the base class function.

There is no confusion of properties, as they are the properties of the instance. There is no difference between super.name and this.name - there is simply this.name. Otherwise you could create a Horse that had different names depending on whether you were in the specialized class or the base class.

Can I write into the console in a unit test? If yes, why doesn't the console window open?

Someone commented about this apparently new functionality in Visual Studio 2013. I wasn't sure what he meant at first, but now that I do, I think it deserves its own answer.

We can use Console.WriteLine normally and the output is displayed, just not in the Output window, but in a new window after we click "Output" in the test details.

ModelState.IsValid == false, why?

Paste the below code in the ActionResult of your controller and place the debugger at this point.

var errors = ModelState
    .Where(x => x.Value.Errors.Count > 0)
    .Select(x => new { x.Key, x.Value.Errors })
    .ToArray();

Javascript regular expression password validation having special characters

If you check the length seperately, you can do the following:

var regularExpression  = /^[a-zA-Z]$/;

if (regularExpression.test(newPassword)) {
    alert("password should contain atleast one number and one special character");
    return false;
}

Which exception should I raise on bad/illegal argument combinations in Python?

I would inherit from ValueError

class IllegalArgumentError(ValueError):
    pass

It is sometimes better to create your own exceptions, but inherit from a built-in one, which is as close to what you want as possible.

If you need to catch that specific error, it is helpful to have a name.

A html space is showing as %2520 instead of %20

When you are trying to visit a local filename through firefox browser, you have to force the file:\\\ protocol (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File_URI_scheme) or else firefox will encode your space TWICE. Change the html snippet from this:

<img src="C:\Documents and Settings\screenshots\Image01.png"/>

to this:

<img src="file:\\\C:\Documents and Settings\screenshots\Image01.png"/>

or this:

<img src="file://C:\Documents and Settings\screenshots\Image01.png"/>

Then firefox is notified that this is a local filename, and it renders the image correctly in the browser, correctly encoding the string once.

jQuery: How to get the event object in an event handler function without passing it as an argument?

Write your event handler declaration like this:

<a href="#" onclick="myFunc(event,1,2,3)">click</a>

Then your "myFunc()" function can access the event.

The string value of the "onclick" attribute is converted to a function in a way that's almost exactly the same as the browser (internally) calling the Function constructor:

theAnchor.onclick = new Function("event", theOnclickString);

(except in IE). However, because "event" is a global in IE (it's a window attribute), you'll be able to pass it to the function that way in any browser.

How to stop a goroutine

Personally, I'd like to use range on a channel in a goroutine:

https://play.golang.org/p/qt48vvDu8cd

package main

import (
    "fmt"
    "sync"
)

func main() {
    var wg sync.WaitGroup
    c := make(chan bool)
    wg.Add(1)

What's better at freeing memory with PHP: unset() or $var = null

I still doubt about this, but I've tried it at my script and I'm using xdebug to know how it will affect my app memory usage. The script is set on my function like this :

function gen_table_data($serv, $coorp, $type, $showSql = FALSE, $table = 'ireg_idnts') {
    $sql = "SELECT COUNT(`operator`) `operator` FROM $table WHERE $serv = '$coorp'";
    if($showSql === FALSE) {
        $sql = mysql_query($sql) or die(mysql_error());
        $data = mysql_fetch_array($sql);
        return $data[0];
    } else echo $sql;
}

And I add unset just before the return code and it give me : 160200 then I try to change it with $sql = NULL and it give me : 160224 :)

But there is something unique on this comparative when I am not using unset() or NULL, xdebug give me 160144 as memory usage

So, I think giving line to use unset() or NULL will add process to your application and it will be better to stay origin with your code and decrease the variable that you are using as effective as you can .

Correct me if I'm wrong, thanks

Javascript switch vs. if...else if...else

The performance difference between a switch and if...else if...else is small, they basically do the same work. One difference between them that may make a difference is that the expression to test is only evaluated once in a switch while it's evaluated for each if. If it's costly to evaluate the expression, doing it one time is of course faster than doing it a hundred times.

The difference in implementation of those commands (and all script in general) differs quite a bit between browsers. It's common to see rather big performance differences for the same code in different browsers.

As you can hardly performance test all code in all browsers, you should go for the code that fits best for what you are doing, and try to reduce the amount of work done rather than optimising how it's done.

Regular expression for only characters a-z, A-Z

With POSIX Bracket Expressions (not supported by Javascript) it can be done this way:

/[:alpha:]+/

Any alpha character A to Z or a to z.

or

/^[[:alpha:]]+$/s

to match strictly with spaces.

Setting action for back button in navigation controller

The answer from @William is correct however, if the user starts a swipe-to-go-back gesture the viewWillDisappear method is called and even self won't be in the navigation stack (that is, self.navigationController.viewControllers won't contain self), even if the swipe is not completed and the view controller is not actually popped. Thus, the solution would be to:

  1. Disable the swipe-to-go-back gesture in viewDidAppear and only allow using the back button, by using:

    if ([self.navigationController respondsToSelector:@selector(interactivePopGestureRecognizer)])
    {
        self.navigationController.interactivePopGestureRecognizer.enabled = NO;
    }

  2. Or simply use viewDidDisappear instead, as follows:

    - (void)viewDidDisappear:(BOOL)animated
    {
        [super viewDidDisappear:animated];
        if (![self.navigationController.viewControllers containsObject:self])
        {
            // back button was pressed or the the swipe-to-go-back gesture was
            // completed. We know this is true because self is no longer
            // in the navigation stack.
        }
    }

How to make a transparent border using CSS?

Well if you want fully transparent than you can use

border: 5px solid transparent;

If you mean opaque/transparent, than you can use

border: 5px solid rgba(255, 255, 255, .5);

Here, a means alpha, which you can scale, 0-1.

Also some might suggest you to use opacity which does the same job as well, the only difference is it will result in child elements getting opaque too, yes, there are some work arounds but rgba seems better than using opacity.

For older browsers, always declare the background color using #(hex) just as a fall back, so that if old browsers doesn't recognize the rgba, they will apply the hex color to your element.

}

div.wrap {
    border: 5px solid #fff; /* Fall back, not used in fiddle */
    border: 5px solid rgba(255, 255, 255, .5);
    height: 400px;
    width: 400px;
    margin: 50px;
    border-radius: 50%;
}

div.inner {
    background: #fff; /* Fall back, not used in fiddle */
    background: rgba(255, 255, 255, .5);
    height: 380px;
    width: 380px;
    border-radius: 50%;
    margin: auto; /* Horizontal Center */
    margin-top: 10px; /* Vertical Center ... Yea I know, that's
                         manually calculated*/
}

Note (For Demo 3): Image will be scaled according to the height and width provided so make sure it doesn't break the scaling ratio.

Secure random token in Node.js

Why use the 'ref' keyword when passing an object?

By using the ref keyword with reference types you are effectively passing a reference to the reference. In many ways it's the same as using the out keyword but with the minor difference that there's no guarantee that the method will actually assign anything to the ref'ed parameter.

How to split strings over multiple lines in Bash?

I came across a situation in which I had to send a long message as part of a command argument and had to adhere to the line length limitation. The commands looks something like this:

somecommand --message="I am a long message" args

The way I solved this is to move the message out as a here document (like @tripleee suggested). But a here document becomes a stdin, so it needs to be read back in, I went with the below approach:

message=$(
    tr "\n" " " <<- END
        This is a
        long message
END
)
somecommand --message="$message" args

This has the advantage that $message can be used exactly as the string constant with no extra whitespace or line breaks.

Note that the actual message lines above are prefixed with a tab character each, which is stripped by here document itself (because of the use of <<-). There are still line breaks at the end, which are then replaced by dd with spaces.

Note also that if you don't remove newlines, they will appear as is when "$message" is expanded. In some cases, you may be able to workaround by removing the double-quotes around $message, but the message will no longer be a single argument.

Read file line by line using ifstream in C++

Since your coordinates belong together as pairs, why not write a struct for them?

struct CoordinatePair
{
    int x;
    int y;
};

Then you can write an overloaded extraction operator for istreams:

std::istream& operator>>(std::istream& is, CoordinatePair& coordinates)
{
    is >> coordinates.x >> coordinates.y;

    return is;
}

And then you can read a file of coordinates straight into a vector like this:

#include <fstream>
#include <iterator>
#include <vector>

int main()
{
    char filename[] = "coordinates.txt";
    std::vector<CoordinatePair> v;
    std::ifstream ifs(filename);
    if (ifs) {
        std::copy(std::istream_iterator<CoordinatePair>(ifs),
                std::istream_iterator<CoordinatePair>(),
                std::back_inserter(v));
    }
    else {
        std::cerr << "Couldn't open " << filename << " for reading\n";
    }
    // Now you can work with the contents of v
}

How can I pass command-line arguments to a Perl program?

If the arguments are filenames to be read from, use the diamond (<>) operator to get at their contents:

while (my $line = <>) {
  process_line($line);
}

If the arguments are options/switches, use GetOpt::Std or GetOpt::Long, as already shown by slavy13.myopenid.com.

On the off chance that they're something else, you can access them either by walking through @ARGV explicitly or with the shift command:

while (my $arg = shift) {
  print "Found argument $arg\n";
}

(Note that doing this with shift will only work if you are outside of all subs. Within a sub, it will retrieve the list of arguments passed to the sub rather than those passed to the program.)

How can I force Python's file.write() to use the same newline format in Windows as in Linux ("\r\n" vs. "\n")?

You can still use the textmode and force the linefeed-newline with the keyword argument newline

f = open("./foo",'w',newline='\n')

Tested with Python 3.4.2.

Edit: This does not work in Python 2.7.

How to Code Double Quotes via HTML Codes

There is no difference, in browsers that you can find in the wild these days (that is, excluding things like Netscape 1 that you might find in a museum). There is no reason to suspect that any of them would be deprecated ever, especially since they are all valid in XML, in HTML 4.01, and in HTML5 CR.

There is no reason to use any of them, as opposite to using the Ascii quotation mark (") directly, except in the very special case where you have an attribute value enclosed in such marks and you would like to use the mark inside the value (e.g., title="Hello &quot;world&quot;"), and even then, there are almost always better options (like title='Hello "word"' or title="Hello “word”".

If you want to use “smart” quotation marks instead, then it’s a different question, and none of the constructs has anything to do with them. Some people expect notations like &quot; to produce “smart” quotes, but it is easy to see that they don’t; the notations unambiguously denote the Ascii quote ("), as used in computer languages.

String concatenation in Ruby

You can do that in several ways:

  1. As you shown with << but that is not the usual way
  2. With string interpolation

    source = "#{ROOT_DIR}/#{project}/App.config"

  3. with +

    source = "#{ROOT_DIR}/" + project + "/App.config"

The second method seems to be more efficient in term of memory/speed from what I've seen (not measured though). All three methods will throw an uninitialized constant error when ROOT_DIR is nil.

When dealing with pathnames, you may want to use File.join to avoid messing up with pathname separator.

In the end, it is a matter of taste.

HTML5 video (mp4 and ogv) problems in Safari and Firefox - but Chrome is all good

I see in the documentation page an example like this:

<source src="foo.ogg" type="video/ogg; codecs=&quot;dirac, speex&quot;">

Maybe you should enclose the codec information with &quot; entities instead of actual quotes and the type attribute with quotes instead of apostrophes.

You can also try removing the codec info altogether.

Display current date and time without punctuation

With punctuation :- +%Y-%m-%d %H:%M:%S

How do include paths work in Visual Studio?

If you are only trying to change the include paths for a project and not for all solutions then in Visual Studio 2008 do this: Right-click on the name of the project in the Solution Navigator. From the popup menu select Properties. In the property pages dialog select Configuration Properties->C/C++/General. Click in the text box next to the "Additional Include Files" label and browse for the appropriate directory. Select OK.

What annoys me is that some of the answers to the original question asked do not apply to the version of Visual Studio that was mentioned.

You can now use a very simple API https://wa.me/ to perform this task where you can provide a valid whatsapp contact number like 15555555555 ( add country code, remove all '+', '-', brackets, spaces or leading zeros). You can also provide a urlencoded text as a predefined msg which user can send directly or change before sending.

Chat with me link : <a href="https://wa.me/15555555555">Contact me by whatsapp</a>

continuous page numbering through section breaks

You can check out this post on SuperUser.

Word starts page numbering over for each new section by default.

I do it slightly differently than the post above that goes through the ribbon menus, but in both methods you have to go through the document to each section's beginning.

My method:

  • open up the footer (or header if that's where your page number is)
  • drag-select the page number
  • right-click on it
  • hit Format Page Numbers
  • click on the Continue from Previous Section radio button under Page numbering

I find this right-click method to be a little faster. Also, usually if I insert the page numbers first before I start making any new sections, this problem doesn't happen in the first place.

HTML5: Slider with two inputs possible?

The question was: "Is it possible to make a HTML5 slider with two input values, for example to select a price range? If so, how can it be done?"

Ten years ago the answer was probably 'No'. However, times have changed. In 2020 it is finally possible to create a fully accessible, native, non-jquery HTML5 slider with two thumbs for price ranges. If found this posted after I already created this solution and I thought that it would be nice to share my implementation here.

This implementation has been tested on mobile Chrome and Firefox (Android) and Chrome and Firefox (Linux). I am not sure about other platforms, but it should be quite good. I would love to get your feedback and improve this solution.

This solution allows multiple instances on one page and it consists of just two inputs (each) with descriptive labels for screen readers. You can set the thumb size in the amount of grid labels. Also, you can use touch, keyboard and mouse to interact with the slider. The value is updated during adjustment, due to the 'on input' event listener.

My first approach was to overlay the sliders and clip them. However, that resulted in complex code with a lot of browser dependencies. Then I recreated the solution with two sliders that were 'inline'. This is the solution you will find below.

var thumbsize = 14;

function draw(slider,splitvalue) {

    /* set function vars */
    var min = slider.querySelector('.min');
    var max = slider.querySelector('.max');
    var lower = slider.querySelector('.lower');
    var upper = slider.querySelector('.upper');
    var legend = slider.querySelector('.legend');
    var thumbsize = parseInt(slider.getAttribute('data-thumbsize'));
    var rangewidth = parseInt(slider.getAttribute('data-rangewidth'));
    var rangemin = parseInt(slider.getAttribute('data-rangemin'));
    var rangemax = parseInt(slider.getAttribute('data-rangemax'));

    /* set min and max attributes */
    min.setAttribute('max',splitvalue);
    max.setAttribute('min',splitvalue);

    /* set css */
    min.style.width = parseInt(thumbsize + ((splitvalue - rangemin)/(rangemax - rangemin))*(rangewidth - (2*thumbsize)))+'px';
    max.style.width = parseInt(thumbsize + ((rangemax - splitvalue)/(rangemax - rangemin))*(rangewidth - (2*thumbsize)))+'px';
    min.style.left = '0px';
    max.style.left = parseInt(min.style.width)+'px';
    min.style.top = lower.offsetHeight+'px';
    max.style.top = lower.offsetHeight+'px';
    legend.style.marginTop = min.offsetHeight+'px';
    slider.style.height = (lower.offsetHeight + min.offsetHeight + legend.offsetHeight)+'px';

    /* correct for 1 off at the end */
    if(max.value>(rangemax - 1)) max.setAttribute('data-value',rangemax);

    /* write value and labels */
    max.value = max.getAttribute('data-value');
    min.value = min.getAttribute('data-value');
    lower.innerHTML = min.getAttribute('data-value');
    upper.innerHTML = max.getAttribute('data-value');

}

function init(slider) {
    /* set function vars */
    var min = slider.querySelector('.min');
    var max = slider.querySelector('.max');
    var rangemin = parseInt(min.getAttribute('min'));
    var rangemax = parseInt(max.getAttribute('max'));
    var avgvalue = (rangemin + rangemax)/2;

What does the line "#!/bin/sh" mean in a UNIX shell script?

When you try to execute a program in unix (one with the executable bit set), the operating system will look at the first few bytes of the file. These form the so-called "magic number", which can be used to decide the format of the program and how to execute it.

#! corresponds to the magic number 0x2321 (look it up in an ascii table). When the system sees that the magic number, it knows that it is dealing with a text script and reads until the next \n (there is a limit, but it escapes me atm). Having identified the interpreter (the first argument after the shebang) it will call the interpreter.

Other files also have magic numbers. Try looking at a bitmap (.BMP) file via less and you will see the first two characters are BM. This magic number denotes that the file is indeed a bitmap.

Access all Environment properties as a Map or Properties object

Working with Spring Boot 2, I needed to do something similar. Most of the answers above work fine, just beware that at various phases in the app lifecycles the results will be different.

ngAttr directive can totally be of help here, as introduced in the official documentation

https://docs.angularjs.org/guide/interpolation#-ngattr-for-binding-to-arbitrary-attributes

For instance, to set the id attribute value of a div element, so that it contains an index, a view fragment might contain

<div ng-attr-id="{{ 'object-' + myScopeObject.index }}"></div>

which would get interpolated to

<div id="object-1"></div>

How to get substring of NSString?

Here is a little combination of @Regexident Option 1 and @Garett answers, to get a powerful string cutter between a prefix and suffix, with MORE...ANDMORE words on it.

NSString *haystack = @"MOREvalue:hello World:valueANDMORE";
NSString *prefix = @"value:";
NSString *suffix = @":value";
NSRange prefixRange = [haystack rangeOfString:prefix];
NSRange suffixRange = [[haystack substringFromIndex:prefixRange.location+prefixRange.length] rangeOfString:suffix];
NSRange needleRange = NSMakeRange(prefixRange.location+prefix.length, suffixRange.location);
NSString *needle = [haystack substringWithRange:needleRange];
NSLog(@"needle: %@", needle);

Margin between items in recycler view Android

I made a class to manage this issue. This class set different margins for the items inside the recyclerView: only the first row will have a top margin and only the first column will have left margin.

public class RecyclerViewMargin extends RecyclerView.ItemDecoration {
private final int columns;
private int margin;

/**
 * constructor
 * @param margin desirable margin size in px between the views in the recyclerView
 * @param columns number of columns of the RecyclerView
 */
public RecyclerViewMargin(@IntRange(from=0)int margin ,@IntRange(from=0) int columns ) {
    this.margin = margin;
    this.columns=columns;

}

/**
 * Set different margins for the items inside the recyclerView: no top margin for the first row
 * and no left margin for the first column.
 */
@Override
public void getItemOffsets(Rect outRect, View view,
                           RecyclerView parent, RecyclerView.State state) {

    int position = parent.getChildLayoutPosition(view);
    //set right margin to all
    outRect.right = margin;
    //set bottom margin to all
    outRect.bottom = margin;
    //we only add top margin to the first row
    if (position <columns) {
        outRect.top = margin;
    }
    //add left margin only to the first column
    if(position%columns==0){
        outRect.left = margin;
        }
    }
}

you can set it in your recyclerview this way

 RecyclerViewMargin decoration = new RecyclerViewMargin(itemMargin, numColumns);
 recyclerView.addItemDecoration(decoration);

Call-time pass-by-reference has been removed

Only call time pass-by-reference is removed. So change:

call_user_func($func, &$this, &$client ...

To this:

call_user_func($func, $this, $client ...

&$this should never be needed after PHP4 anyway period.

If you absolutely need $client to be passed by reference, update the function ($func) signature instead (function func(&$client) {)

For Loop on Lua

names = {'John', 'Joe', 'Steve'}
for names = 1, 3 do
  print (names)
end
  1. You're deleting your table and replacing it with an int
  2. You aren't pulling a value from the table

Try:

names = {'John','Joe','Steve'}
for i = 1,3 do
    print(names[i])
end

Sublime Text 2 - View whitespace characters

To view whitespace the setting is:

// Set to "none" to turn off drawing white space, "selection" to draw only the
// white space within the selection, and "all" to draw all white space
"draw_white_space": "selection",

You can see it if you go into Preferences->Settings Default. If you edit your user settings (Preferences->Settings - User) and add the line as per below, you should get what you want:

{
    "color_scheme": "Packages/Color Scheme - Default/Slush & Poppies.tmTheme",
    "font_size": 10,
    "draw_white_space": "all"
}

Remember the settings are JSON so no trailing commas.

I faced a similar issue during work with Ubuntu 16.04 by using Docker. In my case that was a problem with Composer, but error message (and thus the problem) was the same.

Because of minimalist Docker-oriented base image I had missing ca-certificates package and simple apt-get install ca-certificates helped me.

Git Push ERROR: Repository not found

I can explain how i get into the similar situation, and then will list steps that i have taken to solve this issue.

I am using
Windows 10,
git: git version 2.27.0.windows.1.

I had already setup the git and was doing git push activities. Windows Credential Manager stores the username and password so you don't have to enter username and password every git remote activities.

The encounter this problem, when i added another github account and used --local git settings. After few days, I encounter the Repository not found problem, upon investigation i found:

  1. Even if you remove the git details from Windows Credential Manager, it will save again the username, email details you enter.

So, if you are using two git accounts, you need to use (git bash as an administrator)

git config --edit --system

and remove the

helper = manager

line so that it is no longer registered as a credential helper. But it will ask you login details every time you do any remote activities.

How do I disable Git Credential Manager for Windows?.

To check remote origin, user details

git config --list --show-origin

Changing text of UIButton programmatically swift

Just a clarification for those new to Swift and iOS programming. Below line of code:

button.setTitle("myTitle", forState: UIControlState.Normal)

only applies to IBOutlets, not IBActions.

So, if your app is using a button as a function to execute some code, say playing music, and you want to change the title from Play to Pause based on a toggle variable, you need to also create an IBOutlet for that button.

If you try to use button.setTitle against an IBAction you will get an error. Its obvious once you know it, but for the noobs (we all were) this is a helpful tip.

TypeError : Unhashable type

You'll find that instances of list do not provide a __hash__ --rather, that attribute of each list is actually None (try print [].__hash__). Thus, list is unhashable.

The reason your code works with list and not set is because set constructs a single set of items without duplicates, whereas a list can contain arbitrary data.

What represents a double in sql server?

float

Or if you want to go old-school:

real

You can also use float(53), but it means the same thing as float.

("real" is equivalent to float(24), not float/float(53).)

The decimal(x,y) SQL Server type is for when you want exact decimal numbers rather than floating point (which can be approximations). This is in contrast to the C# "decimal" data type, which is more like a 128-bit floating point number.

MSSQL's float type is equivalent to the 64-bit double type in .NET. (My original answer from 2011 said there could be a slight difference in mantissa, but I've tested this in 2020 and they appear to be 100% compatible in their binary representation of both very small and very large numbers -- see https://dotnetfiddle.net/wLX5Ox for my test).

To make things more confusing, a "float" in C# is only 32-bit, so it would be more equivalent in SQL to the real/float(24) type in MSSQL than float/float(53).

In your specific use case... All you need is 5 places after the decimal point to represent latitude and longitude within about one-meter precision, and you only need up to three digits before the decimal point for the degrees. Float(24) or decimal(8,5) will best fit your needs in MSSQL, and using float in C# is good enough, you don't need double. In fact, your users will probably thank you for rounding to 5 decimal places rather than having a bunch of insignificant digits coming along for the ride.

What is the difference between JAX-RS and JAX-WS?

How to read attribute value from XmlNode in C#?

Yet another solution:

string s = "??"; // or whatever

if (chldNode.Attributes.Cast<XmlAttribute>()
                       .Select(x => x.Value)
                       .Contains(attributeName))
   s =  xe.Attributes[attributeName].Value;

It also avoids the exception when the expected attribute attributeName actually doesn't exist.

Style the first <td> column of a table differently

To select the first column of a table you can use this syntax

tr td:nth-child(1n + 2){
  padding-left: 10px;
}

text-align:center won't work with form <label> tag (?)

label is an inline element so its width is equal to the width of the text it contains. The browser is actually displaying the label with text-align:center but since the label is only as wide as the text you don't notice.

The best thing to do is to apply a specific width to the label that is greater than the width of the content - this will give you the results you want.

Looping through all rows in a table column, Excel-VBA

Assuming that your table is called 'Table1' and the column you need is 'Column' you can try this:

next i

Set a default parameter value for a JavaScript function

being a long time C++ developer (Rookie to web development :)), when I first came across this situation, I did the parameter assignment in the function definition, like it is mentioned in the question, as follows.

function myfunc(a,b=10)

But beware that it doesn't work consistently across browsers. For me it worked on chrome on my desktop, but did not work on chrome on android. Safer option, as many have mentioned above is -

    function myfunc(a,b)
    {
    if (typeof(b)==='undefined') b = 10;
......
    }

Intention for this answer is not to repeat the same solutions, what others have already mentioned, but to inform that parameter assignment in the function definition may work on some browsers, but don't rely on it.

Passing just a type as a parameter in C#

foo.GetColumnValues(dm.mainColumn, typeof(int));
foo.GetColumnValues(dm.mainColumn, typeof(string));

Or using generics:

foo.GetColumnValues<int>(dm.mainColumn);
foo.GetColumnValues<string>(dm.mainColumn);

Include PHP file into HTML file

In order to get the PHP output into the HTML file you need to either

  • Change the extension of the HTML to file to PHP and include the PHP from there (simple)
  • Load your HTML file into your PHP as a kind of template (a lot of work)
  • Change your environment so it deals with HTML as if it was PHP (bad idea)

How to style a JSON block in Github Wiki?

Some color-syntaxing enrichment can be applied with the following blockcode syntax

```json
Note: This won't prettify the json representation. To do so, one can previously rely on an external service such as jsbeautifier.org and paste the prettified result in the wiki.
Change / Add syntax highlighting for a language in Sublime 2/3
Use the PackageResourceViewer plugin installed via Package Control (as mentioned by MattDMo). This allows you to override the compressed resources by simply opening it in Sublime Text and saving the file. It automatically saves only the edited resources to %APPDATA%/Roaming/Sublime Text 3/Packages/ or ~/.config/sublime-text-3/Packages/.
Specific to the op, once the plugin is installed, execute the PackageResourceViewer: Open Resource command. Then select JavaScript followed by JavaScript.tmLanguage. This will open an xml file in the editor. You can edit any of the language definitions and save the file. This will write an override copy of the JavaScript.tmLanguage file in the user directory.
The same method can be used to edit the language definition of any language in the system.
Best way to retrieve variable values from a text file?
What you want appear to want is the following, but this is NOT RECOMMENDED:
>>> for line in open('dangerous.txt'):
...     exec('%s = %s' % tuple(line.split(':', 1)))
...
>>> var_a
'home'
This creates somewhat similar behavior to PHP's register_globals and hence has the same security issues. Additionally, the use of exec that I showed allows arbitrary code execution. Only use this if you are absolutely sure that the contents of the text file can be trusted under all circumstances.
You should really consider binding the variables not to the local scope, but to an object, and use a library that parses the file contents such that no code is executed. So: go with any of the other solutions provided here.
(Please note: I added this answer not as a solution, but as an explicit non-solution.)
C# Pass Lambda Expression as Method Parameter
You should use a delegate type and specify that as your command parameter. You could use one of the built in delegate types - Action and Func.
In your case, it looks like your delegate takes two parameters, and returns a result, so you could use Func:
List<IJob> GetJobs(Func<FullTimeJob, Student, FullTimeJob> projection)
You could then call your GetJobs method passing in a delegate instance. This could be a method which matches that signature, an anonymous delegate, or a lambda expression.
P.S. You should use PascalCase for method names - GetJobs, not getJobs.
Adding a SVN repository in Eclipse
Do you have any working repositories in this instance of eclipse?
I've had problems in the past with the default Subclipse subversion client on Windows, you need to make sure the native subversion client is installed and correctly configured (I've got TortoiseSVN to work in the past) if you want to use the default client adapter.
On a recent install I tried the "beta" drivers (I have Eclipse Ganymede and "SVNKit (Pure Java) SVNKit v1.2.0.4502") that you can optionally install with Subclipse and they worked pretty much straight out of the box, although a colleague found he had to go through a few hoops to make sure Eclipse installed them (and their dependancies) correctly.
Here are the packages that appear in "Help" -> "Software Updates" -> "Installed Software":
Subclipse                  1.4.0
Subversion Client Adapter  1.5.0.1
SVNKit Client Adapter      1.5.0.1
SVNKit Library             1.2.0.4502
These are probably a little out of date now, and the latest version will probably work better, but this is what I can see working right now.
How to determine device screen size category (small, normal, large, xlarge) using code?
You can use the Configuration.screenLayout bitmask.
        Configuration.SCREENLAYOUT_SIZE_LARGE) {
    // on a large screen device ...
}
How to change the date format from MM/DD/YYYY to YYYY-MM-DD in PL/SQL?
I assume that you can use the Oracle SQL Developer, which you can download from here.
You can define the date format which you want to work with:
ALTER SESSION SET nls_date_format='yyyy-mm-dd';
With this, now you can perform a query like this:
SELECT * FROM emp_company WHERE JDate = '2014-02-25'
If you want to be more specific you can define the date format like this:
ALTER SESSION SET nls_date_format='yyyy-mm-dd hh24:mi:ss';
This seems issue with my node upgrade. How ever I solved it with the following approach.
First uninstall the cli, clear cashe, and reinstall with these commands
npm uninstall -g @angular/cli
npm cache clean
npm install -g @angular/cli
Then install node-pre-gyp
npm install -g node-pre-gyp
Restart your terminal and see if the issue is solved.
Find commit by hash SHA in Git
There are two ways to do this.
1. providing the SHA of the commit you want to see to git log
git log -p a2c25061
Where -p is short for patch
2. use git show
git show a2c25061
The output for both commands will be:
  • the commit
  • the author
  • the date
  • the commit message
  • the patch information
How to pass command-line arguments to a PowerShell ps1 file
This article helps. In particular, this section:
-File
Runs the specified script in the local scope ("dot-sourced"), so that the functions and variables that the script creates are available in the current session. Enter the script file path and any parameters. File must be the last parameter in the command, because all characters typed after the File parameter name are interpreted as the script file path followed by the script parameters.
i.e.
powershell.exe -File "C:\myfile.ps1" arg1 arg2 arg3
means run the file myfile.ps1 and arg1 arg2 & arg3 are the parameters for the PowerShell script.
Jest spyOn function called
You're almost there. Although I agree with @Alex Young answer about using props for that, you simply need a reference to the instance before trying to spy on the method.
describe('my sweet test', () => {
 it('clicks it', () => {
    const app = shallow(<App />)
    const instance = app.instance()
    const spy = jest.spyOn(instance, 'myClickFunc')
    const p = app.find('.App-intro')
    p.simulate('click')
    expect(spy).toHaveBeenCalled()
 })
Objective-C declared @property attributes (nonatomic, copy, strong, weak)
nonatomic property means @synthesized methods are not going to be generated threadsafe -- but this is much faster than the atomic property since extra checks are eliminated.
strong is used with ARC and it basically helps you , by not having to worry about the retain count of an object. ARC automatically releases it for you when you are done with it.Using the keyword strong means that you own the object.
weak ownership means that you don't own it and it just keeps track of the object till the object it was assigned to stays , as soon as the second object is released it loses is value. For eg. obj.a=objectB; is used and a has weak property , than its value will only be valid till objectB remains in memory.
copy property is very well explained here
strong,weak,retain,copy,assign are mutually exclusive so you can't use them on one single object... read the "Declared Properties " section
hoping this helps you out a bit...
static function in C
When there is a need to restrict access to some functions, we'll use the static keyword while defining and declaring a function.
            /* file ab.c */
static void function1(void)
{
  puts("function1 called");
}
And store the following code in another file ab1.c
/* file ab1.c  */
int main(void)
{
 function1();
  getchar();
  return 0;
}
/* in this code, we'll get a "Undefined reference to function1".Because function 1 is declared static in file ab.c and can't be used in ab1.c */
configure: error: C compiler cannot create executables
Make sure there are no spaces in your Xcode application name (can happen if you keep older versions around - for example renaming it 'Xcode 4.app'); build tools will be referenced within the Xcode bundle paths, and many scripts can't handle references with spaces properly.
Java: how to use UrlConnection to post request with authorization?
HTTP authorization does not differ between GET and POST requests, so I would first assume that something else is wrong. Instead of setting the Authorization header directly, I would suggest using the java.net.Authorization class, but I am not sure if it solves your problem. Perhaps your server is somehow configured to require a different authorization scheme than "basic" for post requests?
Restrict varchar() column to specific values?
Have you already looked at adding a check constraint on that column which would restrict values? Something like:
CREATE TABLE SomeTable
(
   Id int NOT NULL,
   Frequency varchar(200),
   CONSTRAINT chk_Frequency CHECK (Frequency IN ('Daily', 'Weekly', 'Monthly', 'Yearly'))
)
Checking if a string array contains a value, and if so, getting its position
string x ="Hi ,World";
string y = x;
char[] whitespace = new char[]{ ' ',\t'};
string[] fooArray = y.Split(whitespace);  // now you have an array of 3 strings
y = String.Join(" ", fooArray);
string[] target = { "Hi", "World", "VW_Slep" };
for (int i = 0; i < target.Length; i++)
{
    string v = target[i];
    string results = Array.Find(fooArray, element => element.StartsWith(v, StringComparison.Ordinal));
    //
    if (results != null)
    { MessageBox.Show(results); }
}
SQL query, store result of SELECT in local variable
I came here with a similar question/problem, but I only needed a single value to be stored from the query, not an array/table of results as in the orig post. I was able to use the table method above for a single value, however I have stumbled upon an easier way to store a single value.
declare @myVal int; set @myVal = isnull((select a from table1), 0);
Make sure to default the value in the isnull statement to a valid type for your variable, in my example the value in table1 that we're storing is an int.
How do I create an empty array/matrix in NumPy?
I think you can create empty numpy array like:
>>> import numpy as np
>>> empty_array= np.zeros(0)
>>> empty_array
array([], dtype=float64)
>>> empty_array.shape
(0,)
This format is useful when you want to append numpy array in the loop.
How do I determine whether my calculation of pi is accurate?
The Taylor series is one way to approximate pi. As noted it converges slowly.
The partial sums of the Taylor series can be shown to be within some multiplier of the next term away from the true value of pi.
Other means of approximating pi have similar ways to calculate the max error.
We know this because we can prove it mathematically.
Integrating CSS star rating into an HTML form
This is very easy to use, just copy-paste the code. You can use your own star image in background.
I have created a variable var userRating. you can use this variable to get value from stars.
design a stack such that getMinimum( ) should be O(1)
Add a field to hold the minimum value and update it during Pop() and Push(). That way getMinimum() will be O(1), but Pop() and Push() will have to do a little more work.
If minimum value is popped, Pop() will be O(n), otherwise they will still both be O(1). When resizing Push() becomes O(n) as per the Stack implementation.
Here's a quick implementation
public sealed class MinStack {
    private int MinimumValue;
    private readonly Stack<int> Stack = new Stack<int>();
    public int GetMinimum() {
        if (IsEmpty) {
            throw new InvalidOperationException("Stack is empty");
        }
        return MinimumValue;
    }
    public int Pop() {
        var value = Stack.Pop();
        if (value == MinimumValue) {
            MinimumValue = Stack.Min();
        }
        return value;
    }
    public void Push(int value) {
        if (IsEmpty || value < MinimumValue) {
            MinimumValue = value;
        }
        Stack.Push(value);
    }
    private bool IsEmpty { get { return Stack.Count() == 0; } }
}
How do I write a compareTo method which compares objects?
Consider using the Comparator interface described here which uses generics so you can avoid casting Object to Student.
As Eugene Retunsky said, your first part is the correct way to compare Strings. Also if the lastNames are equal I think you meant to compare firstNames, in which case just use compareTo in the same way.
How can I remove an entry in global configuration with git config?
Cannot install Aptana Studio 3.6 on Windows
I had this issue and it was because of limited internet connection to source. You can use a proxy (VPN) but the better solution is download manually NodeJs from the source https://nodejs.org/download/ and Git, too.
after installation manually, aptana will check if they installed or not.
How to install plugin for Eclipse from .zip
It depends on what the zip contains. Take a look to see if it got content.jar and artifacts.jar. If it does, it is an archived updated site. Install from it the same way as you install from a remote site.
If the zip doesn't contain content.jar and artifacts.jar, go to your Eclipse install's dropins directory, create a subfolder (name doesn't matter) and expand your zip into that folder. Restart Eclipse.
Where can I find the default timeout settings for all browsers?
After the last Firefox update we had the same session timeout issue and the following setting helped to resolve it.
We can control it with network.http.response.timeout parameter.
  1. Open Firefox and type in ‘about:config’ in the address bar and press Enter.
  2. Click on the "I'll be careful, I promise!" button.
  3. Type ‘timeout’ in the search box and network.http.response.timeout parameter will be displayed.
  4. Double-click on the network.http.response.timeout parameter and enter the time value (it is in seconds) that you don't want your session not to timeout, in the box.
How to Create Multiple Where Clause Query Using Laravel Eloquent?
Kill a Process by Looking up the Port being used by it from a .BAT
Steps:
  1. Go to conf folder of your apache tomcat server. In my case,its apache-tomcat-7.0.61\conf as I am using apache-tomcat-7.0.61
  2. Open server.xml and change the port number from 8080 to any other port as your wish. For example:8081,8082,8087 etc
  3. Now go to bin folder and run shutdown.bat
  4. Now restart the server through eclipse.
Now your project will work without any interruption.
Which is preferred: Nullable<T>.HasValue or Nullable<T> != null?
There second method will be many times more effective (mostly because of compilers inlining and boxing but still numbers are very expressive):
public static bool CheckObjectImpl(object o)
{
    return o != null;
}
public static bool CheckNullableImpl<T>(T? o) where T: struct
{
    return o.HasValue;
}
So if you have an option (e.g. writing custom serializers) to process Nullable in different pipeline than object - and use their specific properties - do it and use Nullable specific properties. So from consistent thinking point of view HasValue should be preferred. Consistent thinking can help you to write better code do not spending too much time in details.
PS. People say that advice "prefer HasValue because of consistent thinking" is not related and useless. Can you predict the performance of this?
public static bool CheckNullableGenericImpl<T>(T? t) where T: struct
{
    return t != null; // or t.HasValue?
}
PPS People continue minus, seems nobody tries to predict performance of CheckNullableGenericImpl. I will tell you: there compiler will not help you replacing !=null with HasValue. HasValue should be used directly if you are interested in performance.
Understanding PrimeFaces process/update and JSF f:ajax execute/render attributes
Please note that PrimeFaces supports the standard JSF 2.0+ keywords:
  • @this Current component.
  • @all Whole view.
  • @form Closest ancestor form of current component.
  • @none No component.
and the standard JSF 2.3+ keywords:
  • @child(n) nth child.
  • @composite Closest composite component ancestor.
  • @id(id) Used to search components by their id ignoring the component tree structure and naming containers.
  • @namingcontainer Closest ancestor naming container of current component.
  • @parent Parent of the current component.
  • @previous Previous sibling.
  • @next Next sibling.
  • @root UIViewRoot instance of the view, can be used to start searching from the root instead the current component.
But, it also comes with some PrimeFaces specific keywords:
  • @row(n) nth row.
  • @widgetVar(name) Component with given widgetVar.
And you can even use something called "PrimeFaces Selectors" which allows you to use jQuery Selector API. For example to process all inputs in a element with the CSS class myClass:
process="@(.myClass :input)"
See:
git-upload-pack: command not found, when cloning remote Git repo
Make sure git-upload-pack is on the path from a non-login shell. (On my machine it's in /usr/bin).
To see what your path looks like on the remote machine from a non-login shell, try this:
ssh you@remotemachine echo \$PATH
(That works in Bash, Zsh, and tcsh, and probably other shells too.)
If the path it gives back doesn't include the directory that has git-upload-pack, you need to fix it by setting it in .bashrc (for Bash), .zshenv (for Zsh), .cshrc (for tcsh) or equivalent for your shell.
You will need to make this change on the remote machine.
If you're not sure which path you need to add to your remote PATH, you can find it with this command (you need to run this on the remote machine):
which git-upload-pack
On my machine that prints /usr/bin/git-upload-pack. So in this case, /usr/bin is the path you need to make sure is in your remote non-login shell PATH.
There's also the rather low-tech solution of counting adding spaces by hand to make your messages line up. Nothing prevents you from including a few trailing spaces in your message strings.
Anaconda-Navigator - Ubuntu16.04
I am running Anaconda Navigator on Kubuntu 17.04 & getting a successful launch of the navigator window. Not knowing any of your error messages or statement; you could try reinstalling with command: conda install -c anaconda anaconda-navigator
ActiveModel::ForbiddenAttributesError when creating new user
There is an easier way to avoid the Strong Parameters at all, you just need to convert the parameters to a regular hash, as:
unlocked_params = ActiveSupport::HashWithIndifferentAccess.new(params)
model.create!(unlocked_params)
This defeats the purpose of strong parameters of course, but if you are in a situation like mine (I'm doing my own management of allowed params in another part of my system) this will get the job done.
How to fix/convert space indentation in Sublime Text?
I wrote a plugin for it. You can find it here or look for "ReIndent" in package control. It mostly does the same thing as Kyle Finley wrote but in a convenient way with shortcuts for converting between 2 and 4 and vice-versa.
How to plot time series in python
Convert your x-axis data from text to datetime.datetime, use datetime.strptime:
>>> from datetime import datetime
>>> datetime.strptime("2012-may-31 19:00", "%Y-%b-%d %H:%M")
 datetime.datetime(2012, 5, 31, 19, 0)
This is an example of how to plot data once you have an array of datetimes:
import matplotlib.pyplot as plt
import datetime
import numpy as np
x = np.array([datetime.datetime(2013, 9, 28, i, 0) for i in range(24)])
y = np.random.randint(100, size=x.shape)
plt.plot(x,y)
plt.show()
How can I put the current running linux process in background?
Suspend the process with CTRL+Z then use the command bg to resume it in background. For example:
sleep 60
^Z  #Suspend character shown after hitting CTRL+Z
[1]+  Stopped  sleep 60  #Message showing stopped process info
bg  #Resume current job (last job stopped)
More about job control and bg usage in bash manual page:
JOB CONTROL
Typing the suspend character (typically ^Z, Control-Z) while a process is running causes that process to be stopped and returns control to bash. [...] The user may then manipulate the state of this job, using the bg command to continue it in the background, [...]. A ^Z takes effect immediately, and has the additional side effect of causing pending output and typeahead to be discarded.
bg [jobspec ...]
Resume each suspended job jobspec in the background, as if it had been started with &. If jobspec is not present, the shell's notion of the current job is used.
EDIT
To start a process where you can even kill the terminal and it still carries on running
nohup [command] [-args] > [filename] 2>&1 &
e.g.
nohup /home/edheal/myprog -arg1 -arg2 > /home/edheal/output.txt 2>&1 &
To just ignore the output (not very wise) change the filename to /dev/null
To get the error message set to a different file change the &1 to a filename.
In addition: You can use the jobs command to see an indexed list of those backgrounded processes. And you can kill a backgrounded process by running kill %1 or kill %2 with the number being the index of the process.
Sending email from Command-line via outlook without having to click send
Option 1
You didn't say much about your environment, but assuming you have it available you could use a PowerShell script; one example is here. The essence of this is:
$smtp = New-Object Net.Mail.SmtpClient("ho-ex2010-caht1.exchangeserverpro.net")
$smtp.Send("[email protected]","[email protected]","Test Email","This is a test")
You could then launch the script from the command line as per this example:
powershell.exe -noexit c:\scripts\test.ps1
Note that PowerShell 2.0, which is installed by default on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008R2, includes a simpler Send-MailMessage command, making things easier.
Option 2
If you're prepared to use third-party software, is something line this SendEmail command-line tool. It depends on your target environment, though; if you're deploying your batch file to multiple machines, that will obviously require inclusion (but not formal installation) each time.
Option 3
You could drive Outlook directly from a VBA script, which in turn you would trigger from a batch file; this would let you send an email using Outlook itself, which looks to be closest to what you're wanting. There are two parts to this; first, figure out the VBA scripting required to send an email. There are lots of examples for this online, including from Microsoft here. Essence of this is:
Sub SendMessage(DisplayMsg As Boolean, Optional AttachmentPath)
    Dim objOutlook As Outlook.Application
    Dim objOutlookMsg As Outlook.MailItem
    Dim objOutlookRecip As Outlook.Recipient
    Dim objOutlookAttach As Outlook.Attachment
    Set objOutlook = CreateObject("Outlook.Application")
    Set objOutlookMsg  = objOutlook.CreateItem(olMailItem)
    With objOutlookMsg
        Set objOutlookRecip = .Recipients.Add("Nancy Davolio")
        objOutlookRecip.Type = olTo
        ' Set the Subject, Body, and Importance of the message.
        .Subject = "This is an Automation test with Microsoft Outlook"
        .Body = "This is the body of the message." &vbCrLf & vbCrLf
        .Importance = olImportanceHigh  'High importance
        If Not IsMissing(AttachmentPath) Then
            Set objOutlookAttach = .Attachments.Add(AttachmentPath)
        End If
        For Each ObjOutlookRecip In .Recipients
            objOutlookRecip.Resolve
        Next
        .Save
        .Send
    End With
    Set objOutlook = Nothing
End Sub
Then, launch Outlook from the command line with the /autorun parameter, as per this answer (alter path/macroname as necessary):
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office11\Outlook.exe" /autorun macroname
Option 4
You could use the same approach as option 3, but move the Outlook VBA into a PowerShell script (which you would run from a command line). Example here. This is probably the tidiest solution, IMO.
HTML select form with option to enter custom value
You can't really. You'll have to have both the drop down, and the text box, and have them pick or fill in the form. Without javascript you could create a separate radio button set where they choose dropdown or text input, but this seems messy to me. With some javascript you could toggle disable one or the other depending on which one they choose, for instance, have an 'other' option in the dropdown that triggers the text field.
Mismatched anonymous define() module
Per the docs:
If you manually code a script tag in HTML to load a script with an anonymous define() call, this error can occur.
Also seen if you manually code a script tag in HTML to load a script that has a few named modules, but then try to load an anonymous module that ends up having the same name as one of the named modules in the script loaded by the manually coded script tag.
Finally, if you use the loader plugins or anonymous modules (modules that call define() with no string ID) but do not use the RequireJS optimizer to combine files together, this error can occur. The optimizer knows how to name anonymous modules correctly so that they can be combined with other modules in an optimized file.
To avoid the error:
  • Be sure to load all scripts that call define() via the RequireJS API. Do not manually code script tags in HTML to load scripts that have define() calls in them.
  • If you manually code an HTML script tag, be sure it only includes named modules, and that an anonymous module that will have the same name as one of the modules in that file is not loaded.
  • If the problem is the use of loader plugins or anonymous modules but the RequireJS optimizer is not used for file bundling, use the RequireJS optimizer.
What to put in a python module docstring?
Think about somebody doing help(yourmodule) at the interactive interpreter's prompt — what do they want to know? (Other methods of extracting and displaying the information are roughly equivalent to help in terms of amount of information). So if you have in x.py:
"""This module does blah blah."""
class Blah(object):
  """This class does blah blah."""
then:
>>> import x; help(x)
shows:
Help on module x:
NAME
    x - This module does blah blah.
FILE
    /tmp/x.py
CLASSES
    __builtin__.object
        Blah
    class Blah(__builtin__.object)
     |  This class does blah blah.
     |
     |  Data and other attributes defined here:
     |
     |  __dict__ = <dictproxy object>
     |      dictionary for instance variables (if defined)
     |
     |  __weakref__ = <attribute '__weakref__' of 'Blah' objects>
     |      list of weak references to the object (if defined)
As you see, the detailed information on the classes (and functions too, though I'm not showing one here) is already included from those components' docstrings; the module's own docstring should describe them very summarily (if at all) and rather concentrate on a concise summary of what the module as a whole can do for you, ideally with some doctested examples (just like functions and classes ideally should have doctested examples in their docstrings).
I don't see how metadata such as author name and copyright / license helps the module's user — it can rather go in comments, since it could help somebody considering whether or not to reuse or modify the module.
Convert date to YYYYMM format
Actually, this is the proper way to get what you want, unless you can use MS SQL 2014 (which finally enables custom format strings for date times).
To get yyyymm instead of yyyym, you can use this little trick:
select
 right('0000' + cast(datepart(year, getdate()) as varchar(4)), 4)
 + right('00' + cast(datepart(month, getdate()) as varchar(2)), 2)
It's faster and more reliable than gettings parts of convert(..., 112).
Convert String to Calendar Object in Java
Parse a time with timezone, Z in pattern is for time zone
String aTime = "2017-10-25T11:39:00+09:00";
SimpleDateFormat sdf = new SimpleDateFormat("yyyy-MM-dd'T'HH:mm:ssZ", Locale.getDefault());
try {
    Calendar cal = Calendar.getInstance();
    cal.setTime(sdf.parse(aTime));
    Log.i(TAG, "time = " + cal.getTimeInMillis());
} catch (ParseException e) {
    e.printStackTrace();
}
Output: it will return the UTC time
how do I use an enum value on a switch statement in C++
You're on the right track. You may read the user input into an integer and switch on that:
enum Choice
{
  EASY = 1,
  MEDIUM = 2,
  HARD = 3
};
int i = -1;
// ...<present the user with a menu>...
cin >> i;
switch(i)
{
  case EASY:
    cout << "Easy\n";
    break;
  case MEDIUM:
    cout << "Medium\n";
    break;
  case HARD:
    cout << "Hard\n";
    break;
  default:
    cout << "Invalid Selection\n";
    break;
}
Scraping html tables into R data frames using the XML package
The rvest along with xml2 is another popular package for parsing html web pages.
library(rvest)
theurl <- "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brazil_national_football_team"
file<-read_html(theurl)
tables<-html_nodes(file, "table")
table1 <- html_table(tables[4], fill = TRUE)
The syntax is easier to use than the xml package and for most web pages the package provides all of the options ones needs.
How to get only filenames within a directory using c#?
You can use Path.GetFileName to get the filename from the full path
private string[] pdfFiles = Directory.GetFiles("C:\\Documents", "*.pdf")
                                     .Select(Path.GetFileName)
                                     .ToArray();
EDIT: the solution above uses LINQ, so it requires .NET 3.5 at least. Here's a solution that works on earlier versions:
private string[] pdfFiles = GetFileNames("C:\\Documents", "*.pdf");
private static string[] GetFileNames(string path, string filter)
{
    string[] files = Directory.GetFiles(path, filter);
    for(int i = 0; i < files.Length; i++)
        files[i] = Path.GetFileName(files[i]);
    return files;
}
What exactly does the "u" do? "git push -u origin master" vs "git push origin master"
The key is "argument-less git-pull". When you do a git pull from a branch, without specifying a source remote or branch, git looks at the branch.<name>.merge setting to know where to pull from. git push -u sets this information for the branch you're pushing.
To see the difference, let's use a new empty branch:
$ git checkout -b test
First, we push without -u:
$ git push origin test
$ git pull
You asked me to pull without telling me which branch you
want to merge with, and 'branch.test.merge' in
your configuration file does not tell me, either. Please
specify which branch you want to use on the command line and
try again (e.g. 'git pull <repository> <refspec>').
See git-pull(1) for details.
If you often merge with the same branch, you may want to
use something like the following in your configuration file:
    [branch "test"]
    remote = <nickname>
    merge = <remote-ref>
    [remote "<nickname>"]
    url = <url>
    fetch = <refspec>
See git-config(1) for details.
Now if we add -u:
$ git push -u origin test
Branch test set up to track remote branch test from origin.
Everything up-to-date
$ git pull
Already up-to-date.
Note that tracking information has been set up so that git pull works as expected without specifying the remote or branch.
Update: Bonus tips:
  • As Mark mentions in a comment, in addition to git pull this setting also affects default behavior of git push. If you get in the habit of using -u to capture the remote branch you intend to track, I recommend setting your push.default config value to upstream.
  • git push -u <remote> HEAD will push the current branch to a branch of the same name on <remote> (and also set up tracking so you can do git push after that).
Right way to split an std::string into a vector<string>
For space separated strings, then you can do this:
std::string s = "What is the right way to split a string into a vector of strings";
std::stringstream ss(s);
std::istream_iterator<std::string> begin(ss);
std::istream_iterator<std::string> end;
std::vector<std::string> vstrings(begin, end);
MySQL: Get column name or alias from query
I think this should do what you need (builds on the answer above) . I am sure theres a more pythony way to write it, but you should get the general idea.
cursor.execute(query)
columns = cursor.description
result = []
for value in cursor.fetchall():
    tmp = {}
    for (index,column) in enumerate(value):
        tmp[columns[index][0]] = column
    result.append(tmp)
pprint.pprint(result)
What is polymorphism, what is it for, and how is it used?
Polymorphism in OOP means a class could have different types, inheritance is one way of implementing polymorphism.
for example, Shape is an interface, it has Square, Circle, Diamond subtypes. now you have a Square object, you can upcasting Square to Shape automatically, because Square is a Shape. But when you try to downcasting Shape to Square, you must do explicit type casting, because you can't say Shape is Square, it could be Circle as well. so you need manually cast it with code like Square s = (Square)shape, what if the shape is Circle, you will get java.lang.ClassCastException, because Circle is not Square.
converting string to long in python
longcan only take string convertibles which can end in a base 10 numeral. So, the decimal is causing the harm. What you can do is, float the value before calling the long. If your program is on Python 2.x where int and long difference matters, and you are sure you are not using large integers, you could have just been fine with using int to provide the key as well.
So, the answer is long(float('234.89')) or it could just be int(float('234.89')) if you are not using large integers. Also note that this difference does not arise in Python 3, because int is upgraded to long by default. All integers are long in python3 and call to covert is just int
Expected block end YAML error
SQL ORDER BY multiple columns
It depends on the size of your database.
SQL is based on the SET theory: there is no order inherently used when querying a table.
So if you were to run the first query, it would first order by product price and then product name, IF there were any duplicates in the price category, say $20 for example, it would then order those duplicates by their names, therefore always maintaining that when you run your query it will always return the same set of result in the same order.
If you were to run the second query, it would only order by the name, so if there were two products with the same name (for some odd reason) then they wouldn't have a guaranteed order after you run the query.
Measuring function execution time in R
There is also proc.time()
You can use in the same way as Sys.time but it gives you a similar result to system.time.
ptm <- proc.time()
#your function here
proc.time() - ptm
the main difference between using
system.time({ #your function here })
is that the proc.time() method still does execute your function instead of just measuring the time... and by the way, I like to use system.time with {} inside so you can put a set of things...
Converting String to Double in Android
You seem to assign Double object into native double value field. Does that really compile?
Double.valueOf() creates a Double object so .doubleValue() should not be necessary.
If you want native double field, you need to define the field as double and then use .doubleValue()
Running a cron every 30 seconds
write one shell script create .sh file
nano every30second.sh
and write script
#!/bin/bash
For  (( i=1; i <= 2; i++ ))
do
    write Command here
    sleep 30
done
then set cron for this script crontab -e
(* * * * * /home/username/every30second.sh)
this cron call .sh file in every 1 min & in the .sh file command is run 2 times in 1 min
if you want run script for 5 seconds then replace 30 by 5 and change for loop like this: For (( i=1; i <= 12; i++ ))
when you select for any second then calculate 60/your second and write in For loop
Iterate through a C++ Vector using a 'for' loop
The right way to do that is:
for(std::vector<T>::iterator it = v.begin(); it != v.end(); ++it) {
    it->doSomething();
 }
Where T is the type of the class inside the vector. For example if the class was CActivity, just write CActivity instead of T.
This type of method will work on every STL (Not only vectors, which is a bit better).
If you still want to use indexes, the way is:
for(std::vector<T>::size_type i = 0; i != v.size(); i++) {
    v[i].doSomething();
}
Python: Find in list
Instead of using list.index(x) which returns the index of x if it is found in list or returns a #ValueError message if x is not found, you could use list.count(x) which returns the number of occurrences of x in list (validation that x is indeed in the list) or it returns 0 otherwise (in the absence of x). The cool thing about count() is that it doesn't break your code or require you to throw an exception for when x is not found
php & mysql query not echoing in html with tags?
Change <?php echo $proxy ?> to ' . $proxy . '.
You use <?php when you're outputting HTML by leaving PHP mode with ?>. When you using echo, you have to use concatenation, or wrap your string in double quotes and use interpolation.
javascript object max size limit
There is no such limit on the string length. To be certain, I just tested to create a string containing 60 megabyte.
The problem is likely that you are sending the data in a GET request, so it's sent in the URL. Different browsers have different limits for the URL, where IE has the lowest limist of about 2 kB. To be safe, you should never send more data than about a kilobyte in a GET request.
To send that much data, you have to send it in a POST request instead. The browser has no hard limit on the size of a post, but the server has a limit on how large a request can be. IIS for example has a default limit of 4 MB, but it's possible to adjust the limit if you would ever need to send more data than that.
Also, you shouldn't use += to concatenate long strings. For each iteration there is more and more data to move, so it gets slower and slower the more items you have. Put the strings in an array and concatenate all the items at once:
var items = $.map(keys, function(item, i) {
  var value = $("#value" + (i+1)).val().replace(/"/g, "\\\"");
  return
    '{"Key":' + '"' + Encoder.htmlEncode($(this).html()) + '"' + ",'+
    '" + '"Value"' + ':' + '"' + Encoder.htmlEncode(value) + '"}';
});
var jsonObj =
  '{"code":"' + code + '",'+
  '"defaultfile":"' + defaultfile + '",'+
  '"filename":"' + currentFile + '",'+
  '"lstResDef":[' + items.join(',') + ']}';
Change bootstrap navbar background color and font color
No need for the specificity .navbar-default in your CSS. Background color requires background-color:#cc333333 (or just background:#cc3333). Finally, probably best to consolidate all your customizations into a single class, as below:
.navbar-custom {
    color: #FFFFFF;
    background-color: #CC3333;
}
..
<div id="menu" class="navbar navbar-default navbar-custom">
