Programs & Examples On #Zend studio

Zend Studio is a commercial, proprietary integrated development environment (IDE) for PHP developed by Zend Technologies, based on the PHP Development Tools (PDT) plugin for the Eclipse platform (the PDT project is led by Zend).

Keyboard shortcut to "untab" (move a block of code to the left) in eclipse / aptana?

In Visual Studio and most other half decent IDEs you can simply do SHIFT+TAB. It does the opposite of just TAB.

I would think and hope that the IDEs you mention support this as well.

UITableViewCell, show delete button on swipe

In iOS 8 and Swift 2.0 please try this,

override func tableView(tableView: UITableView, canEditRowAtIndexPath indexPath: NSIndexPath) -> Bool {
   // let the controller to know that able to edit tableView's row
   return true
}

override func tableView(tableView: UITableView, commitEdittingStyle editingStyle UITableViewCellEditingStyle, forRowAtIndexPath indexPath: NSIndexPath)  {
   // if you want to apply with iOS 8 or earlier version you must add this function too. (just left in blank code)
}

override func tableView(tableView: UITableView, editActionsForRowAtIndexPath indexPath: NSIndexPath) -> [UITableViewRowAction]?  {
   // add the action button you want to show when swiping on tableView's cell , in this case add the delete button.
   let deleteAction = UITableViewRowAction(style: .Default, title: "Delete", handler: { (action , indexPath) -> Void in

   // Your delete code here.....
   .........
   .........
   })

   // You can set its properties like normal button
   deleteAction.backgroundColor = UIColor.redColor()

maxReceivedMessageSize and maxBufferSize in app.config

You can do that in your app.config. like that:

maxReceivedMessageSize="2147483647"

(The max value is Int32.MaxValue )

Or in Code:

WSHttpBinding binding = new WSHttpBinding();
binding.Name = "MyBinding";
binding.MaxReceivedMessageSize = Int32.MaxValue;

Note:

If your service is open to the Wide world, think about security when you increase this value.

How do I get elapsed time in milliseconds in Ruby?

When do you use the "this" keyword?

It depends on the coding standard I'm working under. If we are using _ to denote an instance variable then "this" becomes redundant. If we are not using _ then I tend to use this to denote instance variable.

How to search JSON data in MySQL?

  1. Storing JSON in database violates the first normal form.

    The best thing you can do is to normalize and store features in another table. Then you will be able to use a much better looking and performing query with joins. Your JSON even resembles the table.

  2. Mysql 5.7 has builtin JSON functionality:
    http://mysqlserverteam.com/mysql-5-7-lab-release-json-functions-part-2-querying-json-data/

  3. Correct pattern is:

    WHERE  `attribs_json` REGEXP '"1":{"value":[^}]*"3"[^}]*}'

    [^}] will match any character except }

How to post query parameters with Axios?

In my case, the API responded with a CORS error. I instead formatted the query parameters into query string. It successfully posted data and also avoided the CORS issue.

        var data = {};

        const params = new URLSearchParams({
          contact: this.ContactPerson,

How to open a WPF Popup when another control is clicked, using XAML markup only?

I did something simple, but it works.

I used a typical ToggleButton, which I restyled as a textblock by changing its control template. Then I just bound the IsChecked property on the ToggleButton to the IsOpen property on the popup. Popup has some properties like StaysOpen that let you modify the closing behavior.

The following works in XamlPad.

 <StackPanel>
  <ToggleButton Name="button">
    <ToggleButton.Template>
      <ControlTemplate TargetType="ToggleButton">
        <TextBlock>Click Me Here!!</TextBlock>
      </ControlTemplate>
    </ToggleButton.Template>
  </ToggleButton>
  <Popup IsOpen="{Binding IsChecked, ElementName=button}" StaysOpen="False">
    <Border Background="LightYellow">
      <TextBlock>I'm the popup</TextBlock>
    </Border>
  </Popup>
 </StackPanel>

How to tag docker image with docker-compose

If you specify image as well as build, then Compose names the built image with the webapp and optional tag specified in image:

build: ./dir
image: webapp:tag

This results in an image named webapp and tagged tag, built from ./dir.

            TimeSpan T1 = new TimeSpan(hours, minutes, seconds);
            return now.Subtract(T1);
        }

        static void Main(string[] args)

        }

Using group by on multiple columns

Here I am going to explain not only the GROUP clause use, but also the Aggregate functions use.

The GROUP BY clause is used in conjunction with the aggregate functions to group the result-set by one or more columns. e.g.:

-- GROUP BY with one parameter:
SELECT column_name, AGGREGATE_FUNCTION(column_name)
FROM table_name
WHERE column_name operator value
GROUP BY column_name;

-- GROUP BY with two parameters:
SELECT
    column_name1,
    column_name2,
    AGGREGATE_FUNCTION(column_name3)
FROM
    table_name
GROUP BY
    column_name1,
    column_name2;

Remember this order:

  1. SELECT (is used to select data from a database)

  2. FROM (clause is used to list the tables)

  3. WHERE (clause is used to filter records)

  4. GROUP BY (clause can be used in a SELECT statement to collect data across multiple records and group the results by one or more columns)

  5. HAVING (clause is used in combination with the GROUP BY clause to restrict the groups of returned rows to only those whose the condition is TRUE)

  6. ORDER BY (keyword is used to sort the result-set)

You can use all of these if you are using aggregate functions, and this is the order that they must be set, otherwise you can get an error.

Aggregate Functions are:

MIN() returns the smallest value in a given column

MAX() returns the maximum value in a given column.

SUM() returns the sum of the numeric values in a given column

AVG() returns the average value of a given column

COUNT() returns the total number of values in a given column

COUNT(*) returns the number of rows in a table

SQL script examples about using aggregate functions:

Let's say we need to find the sale orders whose total sale is greater than $950. We combine the HAVING clause and the GROUP BY clause to accomplish this:

SELECT
    orderId, SUM(unitPrice * qty) Total
FROM
    OrderDetails
GROUP BY orderId
HAVING Total > 950;

Counting all orders and grouping them customerID and sorting the result ascendant. We combine the COUNT function and the GROUP BY, ORDER BY clauses and ASC:

SELECT
    customerId, COUNT(*)
FROM
    Orders
GROUP BY customerId
ORDER BY COUNT(*) ASC;

Retrieve the category that has an average Unit Price greater than $10, using AVG function combine with GROUP BY and HAVING clauses:

SELECT
    categoryName, AVG(unitPrice)
FROM
    Products p
INNER JOIN
    Categories c ON c.categoryId = p.categoryId
GROUP BY categoryName
HAVING AVG(unitPrice) > 10;

Getting the less expensive product by each category, using the MIN function in a subquery:

SELECT categoryId,
       productId,
       productName,
       unitPrice
FROM Products p1
WHERE unitPrice = (
                SELECT MIN(unitPrice)
                FROM Products p2
                WHERE p2.categoryId = p1.categoryId)

The following statement groups rows with the same values in both categoryId and productId columns:

SELECT
    categoryId, categoryName, productId, SUM(unitPrice)
FROM
    Products p
INNER JOIN
    Categories c ON c.categoryId = p.categoryId
GROUP BY categoryId, productId

CSS Resize/Zoom-In effect on Image while keeping Dimensions

You could achieve that simply by wrapping the image by a <div> and adding overflow: hidden to that element:

<div class="img-wrapper">
    <img src="..." />
</div>
.img-wrapper {
    display: inline-block; /* change the default display type to inline-block */
    overflow: hidden; /* hide the overflow */
}

WORKING DEMO.

Also it's worth noting that <img> element (like the other inline elements) sits on its baseline by default. And there would be a 4~5px gap at the bottom of the image.

That vertical gap belongs to the reserved space of descenders like: g j p q y. You could fix the alignment issue by adding vertical-align property to the image with a value other than baseline.

Additionally for a better user experience, you could add transition to the images.

Thus we'll end up with the following:

.img-wrapper img {
    transition: all .2s ease;
    vertical-align: middle;
}

How do you copy and paste into Git Bash

It's not really a function of git, msys, or bash; every windows console program is stuck using the same cumbersome copy/paste mechanism for historical reasons. Turning on QuickEdit mode can help -- or you can install a nice alternative console like this one, and change your git bash shortcut to use it instead.

For loop in Oracle SQL

You are pretty confused my friend. There are no LOOPS in SQL, only in PL/SQL. Here's a few examples based on existing Oracle table - copy/paste to see results:

 END LOOP;
END;
/

-- Cursor FOR loop --
set serveroutput on
DECLARE
   CURSOR c1 IS SELECT * FROM scott.emp;
   i NUMBER:= 0;
BEGIN
  FOR e_rec IN c1 LOOP
  i:= i+1;
    dbms_output.put_line(i||chr(9)||e_rec.empno||chr(9)||e_rec.ename);
  END LOOP;
END;

Homebrew refusing to link OpenSSL

As the update to the other answer suggests, the workaround of installing the old openssl101 brew will no longer work. For a right-now workaround, see this comment on dotnet/cli#3964.

The most relevant part of the issue copied here:

I looked into the other option that was suggested for setting the rpath on the library. I think the following is a better solution that will only effect this specific library.

sudo install_name_tool -add_rpath /usr/local/opt/openssl/lib /usr/local/share/dotnet/shared/Microsoft.NETCore.App/1.0.0/System.Security.Cryptography.Native.dylib

and/or if you have NETCore 1.0.1 installed perform the same command for 1.0.1 as well:

sudo install_name_tool -add_rpath /usr/local/opt/openssl/lib /usr/local/share/dotnet/shared/Microsoft.NETCore.App/1.0.1/System.Security.Cryptography.Native.dylib

In effect, rather than telling the operating system to always use the homebrew version of SSL and potentially causing something to break, we're telling dotnet how to find the correct library.

Also importantly, it looks like Microsoft are aware of the issue and and have both a) a somewhat immediate plan to mitigate as well as b) a long-term solution (probaby bundling OpenSSL with dotnet).

Another thing to note: /usr/local/opt/openssl/lib is where the brew is linked by default:

13:22 $ ls -l /usr/local/opt/openssl
lrwxr-xr-x  1 ben  admin  26 May 15 14:22 /usr/local/opt/openssl -> ../Cellar/openssl/1.0.2h_1

If for whatever reason you install the brew and link it in a different location, then that path is the one you should use as an rpath.

Once you've update the rpath of the System.Security.Cryptography.Native.dylib libray, you'll need to restart your interactive session (i.e., close your console and start another one).

What is difference between sjlj vs dwarf vs seh?

There's a short overview at MinGW-w64 Wiki:

Why doesn't mingw-w64 gcc support Dwarf-2 Exception Handling?

The Dwarf-2 EH implementation for Windows is not designed at all to work under 64-bit Windows applications. In win32 mode, the exception unwind handler cannot propagate through non-dw2 aware code, this means that any exception going through any non-dw2 aware "foreign frames" code will fail, including Windows system DLLs and DLLs built with Visual Studio. Dwarf-2 unwinding code in gcc inspects the x86 unwinding assembly and is unable to proceed without other dwarf-2 unwind information.

The SetJump LongJump method of exception handling works for most cases on both win32 and win64, except for general protection faults. Structured exception handling support in gcc is being developed to overcome the weaknesses of dw2 and sjlj. On win64, the unwind-information are placed in xdata-section and there is the .pdata (function descriptor table) instead of the stack. For win32, the chain of handlers are on stack and need to be saved/restored by real executed code.

GCC GNU about Exception Handling:

GCC supports two methods for exception handling (EH):

  • DWARF-2 (DW2) EH, which requires the use of DWARF-2 (or DWARF-3) debugging information. DW-2 EH can cause executables to be slightly bloated because large call stack unwinding tables have to be included in th executables.
  • A method based on setjmp/longjmp (SJLJ). SJLJ-based EH is much slower than DW2 EH (penalising even normal execution when no exceptions are thrown), but can work across code that has not been compiled with GCC or that does not have call-stack unwinding information.

[...]

Structured Exception Handling (SEH)

Windows uses its own exception handling mechanism known as Structured Exception Handling (SEH). [...] Unfortunately, GCC does not support SEH yet. [...]

Starting of Tomcat failed from Netbeans

This affects:

  • All versions of Tomcat starting from 8.5.3 onwards.
  • All versions of Netbeans up to 8.1 (It is fixed in Netbeans 8.2).

This is because Netbeans does not 'see' that tomcat is started, although it started just fine.

I have filed Bug #262749 with NetBeans.

Workaround

In the server.xml file, in the Connector element for HTTP/1.1, add the following attribute: server="Apache-Coyote/1.1".

Example:

<Connector
  connectionTimeout="20000"
  port="8080"
  protocol="HTTP/1.1"
  redirectPort="8443"
  server="Apache-Coyote/1.1"
/>

Cause

The reason for that is that prior to 8.5.3, the default was to set the server header as Apache-Coyote/1.1, while since 8.5.3 this default has now been changed to blank. Apparently Netbeans checks on this header.

Maybe in the future we can expect a fix in netbeans addressing this issue.

I was able to trace it back to a change in documentation.

Tomcat 8.5:

"Overrides the Server header for the http response. If set, the value for this attribute overrides any Server header set by a web application. If not set, any value specified by the application is used. If the application does not specify a value then no Server header is set."

Tomcat 8.0:

"Overrides the Server header for the http response. If set, the value for this attribute overrides the Tomcat default and any Server header set by a web application. If not set, any value specified by the application is used. If the application does not specify a value then Apache-Coyote/1.1 is used. Unless you are paranoid, you won't need this feature."

That explains the need for explicitly adding the server attribute since version 8.5.3.

HashMap: One Key, multiple Values

A standard Java HashMap cannot store multiple values per key, any new entry you add will overwrite the previous one.

Set a button background image iPhone programmatically

When setting an image in a tableViewCell or collectionViewCell, this worked for me:

Place the following code in your cellForRowAtIndexPath or cellForItemAtIndexPath

// Obtain pointer to cell. Answer assumes that you've done this, but here for completeness.

CheeseCell *cell = [collectionView dequeueReusableCellWithReuseIdentifier:@"cheeseCell" forIndexPath:indexPath];

// Grab the image from document library and set it to the cell.

UIImage *myCheese = [UIImage imageNamed:@"swissCheese.png"];
[cell.cheeseThumbnail setImage:myCheese forState:UIControlStateNormal];

NOTE: xCode seemed to get hung up on this for me. I had to restart both xCode and the Simulator, it worked properly.

This assumes that you've got cheeseThumbnail set up as an IBOutlet... and some other stuff... hopefully you're familiar enough with table/collection views and can fit this in.

Hope this helps.

NSUserDefaults - How to tell if a key exists

Swift 3 / 4:

Here is a simple extension for Int/Double/Float/Bool key-value types that mimic the Optional-return behavior of the other types accessed through UserDefaults.

(Edit Aug 30 2018: Updated with more efficient syntax from Leo's suggestion.)

extension UserDefaults {
    /// Convenience method to wrap the built-in .integer(forKey:) method in an optional returning nil if the key doesn't exist.
    func integerOptional(forKey: String) -> Int? {
        return self.object(forKey: forKey) as? Int
    }
    /// Convenience method to wrap the built-in .double(forKey:) method in an optional returning nil if the key doesn't exist.
    func doubleOptional(forKey: String) -> Double? {
        return self.object(forKey: forKey) as? Double
    }
    /// Convenience method to wrap the built-in .float(forKey:) method in an optional returning nil if the key doesn't exist.
    func floatOptional(forKey: String) -> Float? {
        return self.object(forKey: forKey) as? Float
    }
    /// Convenience method to wrap the built-in .bool(forKey:) method in an optional returning nil if the key doesn't exist.
    func boolOptional(forKey: String) -> Bool? {
        return self.object(forKey: forKey) as? Bool
    }
}

They are now more consistent alongside the other built-in get methods (string, data, etc.). Just use the get methods in place of the old ones.

let AppDefaults = UserDefaults.standard

// assuming the key "Test" does not exist...

// old:
print(AppDefaults.integer(forKey: "Test")) // == 0
// new:
print(AppDefaults.integerOptional(forKey: "Test")) // == nil

Get refresh token google api

For those using the Google API Client Library for PHP and seeking offline access and refresh tokens beware as of the time of this writing the docs are showing incorrect examples.

currently it's showing:

$client = new Google_Client();
$client->setAuthConfig('client_secret.json');
$client->addScope(Google_Service_Drive::DRIVE_METADATA_READONLY);
$client->setRedirectUri('http://' . $_SERVER['HTTP_HOST'] . '/oauth2callback.php');
// offline access will give you both an access and refresh token so that
// your app can refresh the access token without user interaction.
$client->setAccessType('offline');
// Using "consent" ensures that your application always receives a refresh token.
// If you are not using offline access, you can omit this.
$client->setApprovalPrompt("consent");
$client->setIncludeGrantedScopes(true);   // incremental auth

source: https://developers.google.com/identity/protocols/OAuth2WebServer#offline

All of this works great - except ONE piece

$client->setApprovalPrompt("consent");

After a bit of reasoning I changed this line to the following and EVERYTHING WORKED

$client->setPrompt("consent");

It makes sense since using the HTTP requests it was changed from approval_prompt=force to prompt=consent. So changing the setter method from setApprovalPrompt to setPrompt follows natural convention - BUT IT'S NOT IN THE DOCS!!! That I found at least.

var div = '<div>top div</div>'; // you just created a text string

to

var div = document.createElement("div"); // we want a DIV element instead
div.innerHTML = "top div";

What does "dereferencing" a pointer mean?

Dereferencing a pointer means getting the value that is stored in the memory location pointed by the pointer. The operator * is used to do this, and is called the dereferencing operator.

int a = 10;
int* ptr = &a;

printf("%d", *ptr); // With *ptr I'm dereferencing the pointer.
                    // Which means, I am asking the value pointed at by the pointer.
                    // ptr is pointing to the location in memory of the variable a.
                    // In a's location, we have 10. So, dereferencing gives this value.

// Since we have indirect control over a's location, we can modify its content using the pointer. This is an indirect way to access a.

 *ptr = 20; // Now a's content is no longer 10, and has been modified to 20.

jQuery .scrollTop(); + animation

you must see this

$(function () {
        $('a[href*="#"]:not([href="#"])').click(function () {
            if (location.pathname.replace(/^\//, '') == this.pathname.replace(/^\//, '') && location.hostname == this.hostname) {
                var target = $(this.hash);
                target = target.length ? target : $('[name=' + this.hash.slice(1) + ']');
                if (target.length) {
                    $('html, body').animate({
                        scrollTop: target.offset().top
                    }, 1000);
                    return false;
                }
            }
        });
    });

or try them

$(function () {$('a').click(function () {
$('body,html').animate({
    scrollTop: 0
}, 600);
return false;});});

How to use System.Net.HttpClient to post a complex type?

If you want the types of convenience methods mentioned in other answers but need portability (or even if you don't), you might want to check out Flurl [disclosure: I'm the author]. It (thinly) wraps HttpClient and Json.NET and adds some fluent sugar and other goodies, including some baked-in testing helpers.

Post as JSON:

var resp = await "http://localhost:44268/api/test".PostJsonAsync(widget);

or URL-encoded:

var resp = await "http://localhost:44268/api/test".PostUrlEncodedAsync(widget);

Both examples above return an HttpResponseMessage, but Flurl includes extension methods for returning other things if you just want to cut to the chase:

T poco = await url.PostJsonAsync(data).ReceiveJson<T>();
dynamic d = await url.PostUrlEncodedAsync(data).ReceiveJson();
string s = await url.PostUrlEncodedAsync(data).ReceiveString();

Flurl is available on NuGet:

PM> Install-Package Flurl.Http

How to split data into 3 sets (train, validation and test)?

In the case of supervised learning, you may want to split both X and y (where X is your input and y the ground truth output). You just have to pay attention to shuffle X and y the same way before splitting.

Here, either X and y are in the same dataframe, so we shuffle them, separate them and apply the split for each (just like in chosen answer), or X and y are in two different dataframes, so we shuffle X, reorder y the same way as the shuffled X and apply the split to each.

# 1st case: df contains X and y (where y is the "target" column of df)
df_shuffled = df.sample(frac=1)
X_shuffled = df_shuffled.drop("target", axis = 1)
y_shuffled = df_shuffled["target"]

# 2nd case: X and y are two separated dataframes
X_shuffled = X.sample(frac=1)
y_shuffled = y[X_shuffled.index]

# We do the split as in the chosen answer
X_train, X_validation, X_test = np.split(X_shuffled, [int(0.6*len(X)),int(0.8*len(X))])
y_train, y_validation, y_test = np.split(y_shuffled, [int(0.6*len(X)),int(0.8*len(X))])

Going to a specific line number using Less in Unix

With n being the line number:

  • ng: Jump to line number n. Default is the start of the file.
  • nG: Jump to line number n. Default is the end of the file.

So to go to line number 320123, you would type 320123g.

proper way to sudo over ssh

I was able to fully automate it with the following command:

echo pass | ssh -tt user@server "sudo script"

Advantages:

  • no password prompt
  • won't show password in remote machine bash history

Regarding security: as Kurt said, running this command will show your password on your local bash history, and it's better to save the password in a different file or save the all command in a .sh file and execute it. NOTE: The file need to have the correct permissions so that only the allowed users can access it.

Taking pictures with camera on Android programmatically

Look at following demo code.

Here is your XML file for UI,

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
    android:layout_width="fill_parent"
    android:layout_height="fill_parent"
    android:orientation="vertical" >

    <Button

        android:layout_width="wrap_content"
        android:layout_height="wrap_content"
        android:text="Camera" />

</LinearLayout>

And here is your Java class file,

public class CameraDemoActivity extends Activity {
    int TAKE_PHOTO_CODE = 0;
    public static int count = 0;

    /** Called when the activity is first created. */
    @Override
    public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState)

Where do I find the line number in the Xcode editor?

If you don't want line numbers shown all the time another way to find the line number of a piece of code is to just click in the left-most margin and create a breakpoint (a small blue arrow appears) then go to the breakpoint navigator (?7) where it will list the breakpoint with its line number. You can delete the breakpoint by right clicking on it.

How can I get the username of the logged-in user in Django?

if you are using the old way of writting views, in the way of Function-Based-Views...

in your view, you are creating a new variable called usuario to save the request.user probably...

but if you returning to the Template a context_instance, passing the value of the Context of the request, you will get the logged user, just by accessing the request.

from django.shortcuts import render_to_response
from django.template import RequestContext
def your_view(request):

how to convert string into time format and add two hours

tl;dr

LocalDateTime.parse(
    "2018-01-23 01:23:45".replace( " " , "T" )
).plusHours( 2 )

java.time

The modern approach uses the java.time classes added to Java 8, Java 9, and later.

user enters in the format YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS

Parse that input string into a date-time object. Your format is close to complying with standard ISO 8601 format, used by default in the java.time classes for parsing/generating strings. To fully comply, replace the SPACE in the middle with a T.

String input = "2018-01-23 01:23:45".replace( " " , "T" ) ; // Yields: 2018-01-23T01:23:45

Parse as a LocalDateTime given that your input lacks any indicator of time zone or offset-from-UTC.

LocalDateTime ldt = LocalDateTime.parse( input ) ;

add two hours

The java.time classes can do the math for you.

LocalDateTime twoHoursLater = ldt.plusHours( 2 ) ;

Time Zone

Be aware that a LocalDateTime does not represent a moment, a point on the timeline. Without the context of a time zone or offset-from-UTC, it has no real meaning. The “Local” part of the name means any locality or no locality, rather than any one particular locality. Just saying "noon on Jan 21st" could mean noon in Auckland, New Zealand which happens several hours earlier than noon in Paris France.

To define an actual moment, you must specify a zone or offset.

ZoneId z = ZoneId.of( "Africa/Tunis" ) ;
ZonedDateTime zdt = ldt.atZone( z ) ; // Define an actual moment, a point on the timeline by giving a context with time zone.

If you know the intended time zone for certain, apply it before adding the two hours. The LocalDateTime class assumes simple generic 24-hour days when doing the math. But in various time zones on various dates, days may be 23 or 25 hours long, or may be other lengths. So, for correct results in a zoned context, add the hours to your ZonedDateTime rather than LocalDateTime.

About java.time

The java.time framework is built into Java 8 and later. These classes supplant the troublesome old legacy date-time classes such as java.util.Date, Calendar, & SimpleDateFormat.

The Joda-Time project, now in maintenance mode, advises migration to the java.time classes.

To learn more, see the Oracle Tutorial. And search Stack Overflow for many examples and explanations. Specification is JSR 310.

Where to obtain the java.time classes?

The ThreeTen-Extra project extends java.time with additional classes. This project is a proving ground for possible future additions to java.time. You may find some useful classes here such as Interval, YearWeek, YearQuarter, and more.

iOS/iPhone photo/video/file upload

<input type="file" accept="image/*">

This is as above, but limits the uploads to photos only from camera or library, no videos.

How to make sure docker's time syncs with that of the host?

Windows users:

The solution is very simple. Simply open a powershell prompt and enter:

docker run --privileged --rm alpine date -s "$(Get-Date ([datetime]::UtcNow) -UFormat "+%Y-%m-%d %H:%M:%S")"

To check that it works, run the command:

docker run --rm -it alpine date

My solution is inspired by something I found in docker forum thread. Anyways, it was the only solution that worked for me on docker desktop, except for restarting my machine (which also works). Here's a link to the original thread: https://forums.docker.com/t/syncing-clock-with-host/10432/23

The difference between the thread answer and mine is that mine converts the time to UTC time, which is necessary for e.g. AWS. Otherwise, the original answer from the forum looks like this:

docker run --privileged --rm alpine date -s "$(date -u "+%Y-%m-%d %H:%M:%S")"

It looks like you need to make sure you run PYTHONHOME and PYTHONPATH through cygwin -aw to make them Windows paths. Also, python seems to be using some incorrect paths.

I think I'll need to install python through cygwin to get it working.

public static const in TypeScript

Meanwhile this can be solved through a decorator in combination with Object.freeze or Object.defineProperty, I'm using this, it's a little bit prettier than using tons of getters. You can copy/paste this directly TS Playground to see it in action. - There are two options

Make individual fields "final"

The following decorator converts both, annotated static and non-static fields to "getter-only-properties".

Note: If an instance-variable with no initial value is annotated @final, then the first assigned value (no matter when) will be the final one.

// example
class MyClass {
    @final
    public finalProp: string = "You shall not change me!";

    @final
    public static FINAL_FIELD: number = 75;

    public static NON_FINAL: string = "I am not final."
}

var myInstance: MyClass = new MyClass();
myInstance.finalProp = "Was I changed?";
MyClass.FINAL_FIELD = 123;
MyClass.NON_FINAL = "I was changed.";

console.log(myInstance.finalProp); // => You shall not change me!
console.log(MyClass.FINAL_FIELD);   // => 75
console.log(MyClass.NON_FINAL);     // => I was changed.

The Decorator: Make sure you include this in your code!

/**
* Turns static and non-static fields into getter-only, and therefor renders them "final".
* To use simply annotate the static or non-static field with: @final
*/
function final(target: any, propertyKey: string) {
    const value: any = target[propertyKey];
    // if it currently has no value, then wait for the first setter-call
    // usually the case with non-static fields
    if (!value) {
        Object.defineProperty(target, propertyKey, {
            set: function (value: any) {
                Object.defineProperty(this, propertyKey, {
                    get: function () {
                        return value;
                    },
                    enumerable: true,
                    configurable: false
                });
            },
            enumerable: true,
            configurable: true
        });
    } else { // else, set it immediatly
        Object.defineProperty(target, propertyKey, {
            get: function () {
                return value;
            },
            enumerable: true
        });
    }
}

As an alternative to the decorator above, there would also be a strict version of this, which would even throw an Error when someone tried to assign some value to the field with "use strict"; being set. (This is only the static part though)

/**
 * Turns static fields into getter-only, and therefor renders them "final".
 * Also throws an error in strict mode if the value is tried to be touched.
 * To use simply annotate the static field with: @strictFinal
 */
function strictFinal(target: any, propertyKey: string) {
    Object.defineProperty(target, propertyKey, {
        value: target[propertyKey],
        writable: false,
        enumerable: true
    });
}

Make every static field "final"

Possible Downside: This will only work for ALL statics of that class or for none, but cannot be applied to specific statics.

/**
* Freezes the annotated class, making every static 'final'.
* Usage:
* @StaticsFinal
* class MyClass {
*      public static SOME_STATIC: string = "SOME_STATIC";
*      //...
* }
*/
function StaticsFinal(target: any) {
    Object.freeze(target);
}
// Usage here
@StaticsFinal
class FreezeMe {
    public static FROZEN_STATIC: string = "I am frozen";
}

class EditMyStuff {
    public static NON_FROZEN_STATIC: string = "I am frozen";
}

// Test here
FreezeMe.FROZEN_STATIC = "I am not frozen.";
EditMyStuff.NON_FROZEN_STATIC = "I am not frozen.";

console.log(FreezeMe.FROZEN_STATIC); // => "I am frozen."
console.log(EditMyStuff.NON_FROZEN_STATIC); // => "I am not frozen."

Find in Files: Search all code in Team Foundation Server

Team Foundation Server 2015 (on-premises) and Visual Studio Team Services (cloud version) include built-in support for searching across all your code and work items.

You can do simple string searches like foo, boolean operations like foo OR bar or more complex language-specific things like class:WebRequest

How to temporarily disable a click handler in jQuery?

If #button_id implies a standard HTML button (like a submit button) you can use the 'disabled' attribute to make the button inactive to the browser.

$("#button_id").click(function() {
    $('#button_id').attr('disabled', 'true');

    //do something

     $('#button_id').removeAttr('disabled');
});

What you may need to be careful with, however, is the order in which these things may happen. If you are using the jquery hide command, you may want to include the "$('#button_id').removeAttr('disabled');" as part of a call back, so that it does not happen until the hide is complete.

[edit] example of function using a callback:

$("#button_id").click(function() {
    $('#button_id').attr('disabled', 'true');
    $('#myDiv').hide(function() { $('#button_id').removeAttr('disabled'); });
});

Why is it not advisable to have the database and web server on the same machine?

Security is a major concern. Ideally your database server should be sitting behind a firewall with only the ports required to perform data access opened. Your web application should be connecting to the database server with a SQL account that has just enough rights for the application to function and no more. For example you should remove rights that permit dropping of objects and most certainly you shouldn't be connecting using accounts such as 'sa'.

In the event that you lose the web server to a hijack (i.e. a full blown privilege escalation to administrator rights), the worst case scenario is that your application's database may be compromised but not the whole database server (as would be the case if the database server and web server were the same machine). If you've encrypted your database connection strings and the hacker isn't savvy enough to decrypt them then all you've lost is the web server.

cannot import name patterns

Pattern module in not available from django 1.8. So you need to remove pattern from your import and do something similar to the following:

from django.conf.urls import include, url
from django.contrib import admin

admin.autodiscover()

urlpatterns = [
    # here we are not using pattern module like in previous django versions
    url(r'^admin/', include(admin.site.urls)),

Adding multiple columns AFTER a specific column in MySQL

One possibility would be to not bother about reordering the columns in the table and simply modify it by add the columns. Then, create a view which has the columns in the order you want -- assuming that the order is truly important. The view can be easily changed to reflect any ordering that you want. Since I can't imagine that the order would be important for programmatic applications, the view should suffice for those manual queries where it might be important.

How do I get the last four characters from a string in C#?

What is an HttpHandler in ASP.NET

An HttpHandler (or IHttpHandler) is basically anything that is responsible for serving content. An ASP.NET page (aspx) is a type of handler.

You might write your own, for example, to serve images etc from a database rather than from the web-server itself, or to write a simple POX service (rather than SOAP/WCF/etc)

Update Multiple Rows in Entity Framework from a list of ids

something like below

var idList=new int[]{1, 2, 3, 4};
using (var db=new SomeDatabaseContext())
{
    var friends= db.Friends.Where(f=>idList.Contains(f.ID)).ToList();
    friends.ForEach(a=>a.msgSentBy='1234');
    db.SaveChanges();
}

UPDATE:

you can update multiple fields as below

friends.ForEach(a =>
                      {
                         a.property1 = value1;
                         a.property2 = value2;
                      });

C Programming: How to read the whole file contents into a buffer

A portable solution could use getc.

#include <stdio.h>

char buffer[MAX_FILE_SIZE];
size_t i;

for (i = 0; i < MAX_FILE_SIZE; ++i)
{
    int c = getc(fp);

    if (c == EOF)
    {
        buffer[i] = 0x00;
        break;
    }

    buffer[i] = c;
}

If you don't want to have a MAX_FILE_SIZE macro or if it is a big number (such that buffer would be to big to fit on the stack), use dynamic allocation.

Python "SyntaxError: Non-ASCII character '\xe2' in file"

You've got a stray byte floating around. You can find it by running

with open("x.py") as fp:
    for i, line in enumerate(fp):
        if "\xe2" in line:
            print i, repr(line)

where you should replace "x.py" by the name of your program. You'll see the line number and the offending line(s). For example, after inserting that byte arbitrarily, I got:

4 "\xe2        lb = conn.create_load_balancer('my_lb', ['us-east-1a', 'us-east-1b'],[(80, 8080, 'http'), (443, 8443, 'tcp')])\n"

CSS, Images, JS not loading in IIS

If you're seeing 403 errors in your browser console, check your MVC Bundle Config. Bundle names should not match any existing folder names in your project.

eg.

bundles.Add(new StyleBundle("~/Content/css")...

...would cause issues for IIS if the folder structure $(ProjectDir)\Content\css exists in your project, since it tries to look within the existing folder for bundle content that's not there.

Instead just use something like:

bundles.Add(new StyleBundle("~/Content/cssbundle")...

React - Display loading screen while DOM is rendering?

Edit your index.html file location in the public folder. Copy your image to same location as index.html in public folder. And then replace the part of the contents of index.html containing <div id="root"> </div> tags to the below given html code.

<div id="root">  <img src="logo-dark300w.png" alt="Spideren" style="vertical-align: middle; position: absolute;
   top: 50%;
   left: 50%;
   margin-top: -100px; /* Half the height */
   margin-left: -250px; /* Half the width */" />  </div>

Logo will now appear in the middle of the page during the loading process. And will then be replaced after a few seconds by React.

List all liquibase sql types

For checking type conversions in version 3, you can go to their github and check into the different liquibase types and check the method toDatabaseDataType. For example, for Boolean, you can check here:

https://github.com/liquibase/liquibase/blob/master/liquibase-core/src/main/java/liquibase/datatype/core/BooleanType.java

For version 2.0.x, the conversion seems to be into database specific classes. For example, for Mysql:

https://github.com/liquibase/liquibase/blob/2_0_x/liquibase-core/src/main/java/liquibase/database/typeconversion/core/MySQLTypeConverter.java

value in column : 10-NOV-2005 06:31:00

Then, You can Use TRUNC function in select query to convert your date-time value to only date like - DD/MM/YYYY or DD-MON-YYYY

select TRUNC(column_1) from table1;

Get Unix timestamp with C++

As this is the first result on google and there's no C++20 answer yet, here's how to use std::chrono to do this:

#include <chrono>

//...

using namespace std::chrono;
int64_t timestamp = duration_cast<milliseconds>(system_clock::now().time_since_epoch()).count();

In versions of C++ before 20, system_clock's epoch being Unix epoch is a de-facto convention, but it's not standardized. If you're not on C++20, use at your own risk.

How to Position a table HTML?

As BalausC mentioned in a comment, you are probably looking for CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) not HTML attributes.

To position an element, a <table> in your case you want to use either padding or margins.

the difference between margins and paddings can be seen as the "box model":

box model image

Image from HTML Dog article on margins and padding http://www.htmldog.com/guides/cssbeginner/margins/.

I highly recommend the article above if you need to learn how to use CSS.

To move the table down and right I would use margins like so:

table{
    margin:25px 0 0 25px;
}

This is in shorthand so the margins are as follows:

margin: top right bottom left;

ReactNative: how to center text?

Parse XML using JavaScript

The following will parse an XML string into an XML document in all major browsers, including Internet Explorer 6. Once you have that, you can use the usual DOM traversal methods/properties such as childNodes and getElementsByTagName() to get the nodes you want.

var parseXml;
if (typeof window.DOMParser != "undefined") {
    parseXml = function(xmlStr) {
        return ( new window.DOMParser() ).parseFromString(xmlStr, "text/xml");
    };
} else if (typeof window.ActiveXObject != "undefined" &&
       new window.ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLDOM")) {
    parseXml = function(xmlStr) {
        var xmlDoc = new window.ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLDOM");
        xmlDoc.async = "false";
        xmlDoc.loadXML(xmlStr);
        return xmlDoc;
    };
} else {
    throw new Error("No XML parser found");
}

Example usage:

var xml = parseXml("<foo>Stuff</foo>");
alert(xml.documentElement.nodeName);

jquery beforeunload when closing (not leaving) the page?

Credit should go here: how to detect if a link was clicked when window.onbeforeunload is triggered?

Basically, the solution adds a listener to detect if a link or window caused the unload event to fire.

var link_was_clicked = false;
document.addEventListener("click", function(e) {
   if (e.target.nodeName.toLowerCase() === 'a') {
      link_was_clicked = true;
   }
}, true);

window.onbeforeunload = function(e) {
    if(link_was_clicked) {
        return;
    }
    return confirm('Are you sure?');

Select current date by default in ASP.Net Calendar control

I was trying to make the calendar selects a date by default and highlights it for the user. However, i tried using all the options above but i only managed to set the calendar's selected date.

protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
    Calendar1.SelectedDate = DateTime.Today;
}

the previous code did NOT highlight the selection, although it set the SelectedDate to today.

However, to select and highlight the following code will work properly.

protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
    DateTime today = DateTime.Today;
    Calendar1.TodaysDate = today;
    Calendar1.SelectedDate = Calendar1.TodaysDate;
}

A nice trick to use in place of the various print formats:

(1) Pad with spaces to the right:

(2) Pad with leading zeros on the left:

('0000' + str(2))[-4:]

Git ignore file for Xcode projects

Regarding the 'build' directory exclusion -

If you place your build files in a different directory from your source, as I do, you don't have the folder in the tree to worry about.

This also makes life simpler for sharing your code, preventing bloated backups, and even when you have dependencies to other Xcode projects (while require the builds to be in the same directory as each other)

You can grab an up-to-date copy from the Github gist https://gist.github.com/708713

My current .gitignore file is

# Mac OS X
*.DS_Store

# Xcode
*.pbxuser
*.mode1v3
*.mode2v3
*.perspectivev3
*.xcuserstate
project.xcworkspace/
xcuserdata/

# Generated files
*.o
*.pyc

#Python modules

What is the most efficient way to store tags in a database?

If space is going to be an issue, have a 3rd table Tags(Tag_Id, Title) to store the text for the tag and then change your Tags table to be (Tag_Id, Item_Id). Those two values should provide a unique composite primary key as well.

What does cv::normalize(_src, dst, 0, 255, NORM_MINMAX, CV_8UC1);

When the normType is NORM_MINMAX, cv::normalize normalizes _src in such a way that the min value of dst is alpha and max value of dst is beta. cv::normalize does its magic using only scales and shifts (i.e. adding constants and multiplying by constants).

CV_8UC1 says how many channels dst has.

The documentation here is pretty clear: http://docs.opencv.org/modules/core/doc/operations_on_arrays.html#normalize

How do I open a new window using jQuery?

It's not really something you need jQuery to do. There is a very simple plain old javascript method for doing this:

window.open('http://www.google.com','GoogleWindow', 'width=800, height=600');

That's it.

The first arg is the url, the second is the name of the window, this should be specified because IE will throw a fit about trying to use window.opener later if there was no window name specified (just a little FYI), and the last two params are width/height.

EDIT: Full specification can be found in the link mmmshuddup provided.

Colorizing text in the console with C++

You don't need to use any library. Just only write system("color 4f");

Styling mat-select in Angular Material

Put your class name on the mat-form-field element. This works for all inputs.

How to underline a UILabel in swift?

A class to set and remove underline for UIbuttons for Swift 5. I hope this helps

import Foundation
   import UIKit

   class UiUtil {

       static let underlineThickness = 2

       class func removeUnderlineFromButton( _ button:UIButton ) {
          if let str = button.titleLabel?.attributedText {
            let attributedString = NSMutableAttributedString( attributedString: str )
            attributedString.removeAttribute(.underlineStyle, range:
   NSRange.init(location: 0, length: attributedString.length))
            button.setAttributedTitle(attributedString, for: .normal)
         }
      }

    class func setUnderlineFromButton( _ button:UIButton ) {
        if let str = button.titleLabel?.attributedText {
            let attributedStringUnderline = NSMutableAttributedString( attributedString:
    str  )
              attributedStringUnderline.addAttribute(
                NSAttributedString.Key.underlineStyle,
                value: underlineThickness,
                range: NSRange.init(location: 0, length: attributedStringUnderline.length)
              )
              button.setAttributedTitle(attributedStringUnderline, for: .normal)
           }
      }

   }

Difference between multitasking, multithreading and multiprocessing?

Multiprogramming - This term is used in the context of batch systems. You've got several programs in main memory concurrently. The CPU schedules a time for each one.

I.e. submitting multiple jobs and all of them are loaded into memory and executed according to a scheduling algorithm. Common batch system scheduling algorithms include: First-Come-First-Served, Shortest-Job-First, Shortest-Remaining-Time-Next.

Multitasking - This is basically multiprogramming in the context of a single-user interactive environment, in which the OS switches between several programs in main memory so as to give the illusion that several are running at once. Common scheduling algorithms used for multitasking are: Round-Robin, Priority Scheduling (multiple queues), Shortest-Process-Next.

How to convert Moment.js date to users local timezone?

Here's what I did:

var timestamp = moment.unix({{ time }});
var utcOffset = moment().utcOffset();
var local_time = timestamp.add(utcOffset, "minutes");
var dateString = local_time.fromNow();

Where {{ time }} is the utc timestamp.

How can I return the current action in an ASP.NET MVC view?

Use the ViewContext and look at the RouteData collection to extract both the controller and action elements. But I think setting some data variable that indicates the application context (e.g., "editmode" or "error") rather than controller/action reduces the coupling between your views and controllers.

Set a path variable with spaces in the path in a Windows .cmd file or batch file

also just try adding double slashes like this works for me only

set dir="C:\\1. Some Folder\\Some Other Folder\\Just Because"

@echo on MKDIR %dir%

OMG after posting they removed the second \ in my post so if you open my comment and it shows three you should read them as two......

How to implement onBackPressed() in Fragments?

According to the AndroidX release notes, androidx.activity 1.0.0-alpha01 is released and introduces ComponentActivity, a new base class of the existing FragmentActivity and AppCompatActivity. And this release brings us a new feature:

You can now register an OnBackPressedCallback via addOnBackPressedCallback to receive onBackPressed() callbacks without needing to override the method in your activity.

Compare given date with today

That format is perfectly appropriate for a standard string comparison e.g.

if ($date1 > $date2){
  //Action
}

To get today's date in that format, simply use: date("Y-m-d H:i:s").

So:

$today = date("Y-m-d H:i:s");
$date = "2010-01-21 00:00:00";

if ($date < $today) {}

That's the beauty of that format: it orders nicely. Of course, that may be less efficient, depending on your exact circumstances, but it might also be a whole lot more convenient and lead to more maintainable code - we'd need to know more to truly make that judgement call.

For the correct timezone, you can use, for example,

date_default_timezone_set('America/New_York');

How do I upload a file with metadata using a REST web service?

To build on ccleve's answer, if you are using superagent / express / multer, on the front end side build your multipart request doing something like this:

superagent
    .post(url)
    .accept('application/json')
    .field('myVeryRelevantJsonData', JSON.stringify({ peep: 'Peep Peep!!!' }))
    .attach('myFile', file);

cf https://visionmedia.github.io/superagent/#multipart-requests.

On the express side, whatever was passed as field will end up in req.body after doing:

app.use(express.json({ limit: '3MB' }));

Your route would include something like this:

const multerMemStorage = multer.memoryStorage();
const multerUploadToMem = multer({
  storage: multerMemStorage,
  // Also specify fileFilter, limits...
});

router.post('/myUploads',
  multerUploadToMem.single('myFile'),
  async (req, res, next) => {
    // Find back myVeryRelevantJsonData :
    logger.verbose(`Uploaded req.body=${JSON.stringify(req.body)}`);

    // If your file is text:
    const newFileText = req.file.buffer.toString();
    logger.verbose(`Uploaded text=${newFileText}`);
    return next();
  },
  ...

One thing to keep in mind though is this note from the multer doc, concerning disk storage:

Note that req.body might not have been fully populated yet. It depends on the order that the client transmits fields and files to the server.

I guess this means it would be unreliable to, say, compute the target dir/filename based on json metadata passed along the file

Comparing two byte arrays in .NET

I thought about block-transfer acceleration methods built into many graphics cards. But then you would have to copy over all the data byte-wise, so this doesn't help you much if you don't want to implement a whole portion of your logic in unmanaged and hardware-dependent code...

Another way of optimization similar to the approach shown above would be to store as much of your data as possible in a long[] rather than a byte[] right from the start, for example if you are reading it sequentially from a binary file, or if you use a memory mapped file, read in data as long[] or single long values. Then, your comparison loop will only need 1/8th of the number of iterations it would have to do for a byte[] containing the same amount of data. It is a matter of when and how often you need to compare vs. when and how often you need to access the data in a byte-by-byte manner, e.g. to use it in an API call as a parameter in a method that expects a byte[]. In the end, you only can tell if you really know the use case...

How to set a default row for a query that returns no rows?

One approach for Oracle:

SELECT val
FROM myTable
UNION ALL
SELECT 'DEFAULT'
FROM dual
WHERE NOT EXISTS (SELECT * FROM myTable)

Or alternatively in Oracle:

SELECT NVL(MIN(val), 'DEFAULT')
FROM myTable

Or alternatively in SqlServer:

SELECT ISNULL(MIN(val), 'DEFAULT')
FROM myTable

These use the fact that MIN() returns NULL when there are no rows.

Convert Rows to columns using 'Pivot' in SQL Server

I've achieved the same thing before by using subqueries. So if your original table was called StoreCountsByWeek, and you had a separate table that listed the Store IDs, then it would look like this:

SELECT StoreID,
    Week1=(SELECT ISNULL(SUM(xCount),0) FROM StoreCountsByWeek WHERE StoreCountsByWeek.StoreID=Store.StoreID AND Week=1),
    Week2=(SELECT ISNULL(SUM(xCount),0) FROM StoreCountsByWeek WHERE StoreCountsByWeek.StoreID=Store.StoreID AND Week=2),
    Week3=(SELECT ISNULL(SUM(xCount),0) FROM StoreCountsByWeek WHERE StoreCountsByWeek.StoreID=Store.StoreID AND Week=3)
FROM Store
ORDER BY StoreID

One advantage to this method is that the syntax is more clear and it makes it easier to join to other tables to pull other fields into the results too.

My anecdotal results are that running this query over a couple of thousand rows completed in less than one second, and I actually had 7 subqueries. But as noted in the comments, it is more computationally expensive to do it this way, so be careful about using this method if you expect it to run on large amounts of data .

How to assign Php variable value to Javascript variable?

Essentially:

<?php
//somewhere set a value
$var = "a value";
?>

<script>
// then echo it into the js/html stream
// and assign to a js variable
spge = '<?php echo $var ;?>';

// then
alert(spge);

</script>

BATCH file asks for file or folder

I had exactly the same problem, where is wanted to copy a file into an external hard drive for backup purposes. If I wanted to copy a complete folder, then COPY was quite happy to create the destination folder and populate it with all the files. However, I wanted to copy a file once a day and add today's date to the file. COPY was happy to copy the file and rename it in the new format, but only as long as the destination folder already existed.

my copy command looked like this:

COPY C:\SRCFOLDER\MYFILE.doc D:\DESTFOLDER\MYFILE_YYYYMMDD.doc

Like you, I looked around for alternative switches or other copy type commands, but nothing really worked like I wanted it to. Then I thought about splitting out the two different requirements by simply adding a make directory ( MD or MKDIR ) command before the copy command.

So now i have

MKDIR D:\DESTFOLDER

COPY C:\SRCFOLDER\MYFILE.doc D:\DESTFOLDER\MYFILE_YYYYMMDD.doc

If the destination folder does NOT exist, then it creates it. If the destination folder DOES exist, then it generates an error message.. BUT, this does not stop the batch file from continuing on to the copy command.

The error message says: A subdirectory or file D:\DESTFOLDER already exists

As i said, the error message doesn't stop the batch file working and it is a really simple fix to the problem.

Hope that this helps.

How are Anonymous inner classes used in Java?

Yes, anonymous inner classes is definitely one of the advantages of Java.

With an anonymous inner class you have access to final and member variables of the surrounding class, and that comes in handy in listeners etc.

But a major advantage is that the inner class code, which is (at least should be) tightly coupled to the surrounding class/method/block, has a specific context (the surrounding class, method, and block).

Can't push to remote branch, cannot be resolved to branch

For my case, I used to have branch folder (or whatever it is called) with capital letters, then I create a new one with difference casing (lowercase) but git actually create the branch with capital.

I have created a branch like feature-ABC/branch1 before and pushed it. Then I create a branch feature-abc/branch2 (notice the lower-case ABC), and try to push it to remote using git push --set-upstream origin feature-abc/branch2 and get the 'cannot be resolved to branch' error. So I git branch and see that it actually created feature-ABC/branch2 instead of feature-abc/branch1 for me. I checkout again with git checkout feature-ABC/feature2 and push it using the uppercase (feature-ABC/feature2) to solve it.

Git Commit Messages: 50/72 Formatting

Regarding the “summary” line (the 50 in your formula), the Linux kernel documentation has this to say:

For these reasons, the "summary" must be no more than 70-75
characters, and it must describe both what the patch changes, as well
as why the patch might be necessary. It is challenging to be both
succinct and descriptive, but that is what a well-written summary
should do.

That said, it seems like kernel maintainers do indeed try to keep things around 50. Here’s a histogram of the lengths of the summary lines in the git log for the kernel:

Lengths of Git summary lines (view full-sized)

There is a smattering of commits that have summary lines that are longer (some much longer) than this plot can hold without making the interesting part look like one single line. (There’s probably some fancy statistical technique for incorporating that data here but oh well… :-)

If you want to see the raw lengths:

cd /path/to/repo
git shortlog  | grep -e '^      ' | sed 's/[[:space:]]\+\(.*\)$/\1/' | awk '{print length($0)}'

or a text-based histogram:

cd /path/to/repo
git shortlog  | grep -e '^      ' | sed 's/[[:space:]]\+\(.*\)$/\1/' | awk '{lens[length($0)]++;} END {for (len in lens) print len, lens[len] }' | sort -n

How do I retrieve an HTML element's actual width and height?

Just in case it is useful to anyone, I put a textbox, button and div all with the same css:

width:200px;
height:20px;
border:solid 1px #000;
padding:2px;

<input id="t" type="text" />
<input id="b" type="button" />
<div   id="d"></div>

I tried it in chrome, firefox and ie-edge, I tried with jquery and without, and I tried it with and without box-sizing:border-box. Always with <!DOCTYPE html>

Build error, This project references NuGet

Quick solution that worked like a charm for me and others:

If you are using VS 2015+, just remove the following lines from the .csproj file of your project:

  <Import Project="$(SolutionDir)\.nuget\NuGet.targets" Condition="Exists('$(SolutionDir)\.nuget\NuGet.targets')" />
  <Target Name="EnsureNuGetPackageBuildImports" BeforeTargets="PrepareForBuild">
    <PropertyGroup>
      <ErrorText>This project references NuGet package(s) that are missing on this computer. Enable NuGet Package Restore to download them. For more information, see http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=322105. The missing file is {0}.</ErrorText>
    </PropertyGroup>
    <Error Condition="!Exists('$(SolutionDir)\.nuget\NuGet.targets')" Text="$([System.String]::Format('$(ErrorText)', '$(SolutionDir)\.nuget\NuGet.targets'))" />
  </Target>

In VS 2015+ Solution Explorer:

  1. Right-click project name -> Unload Project
  2. Right-click project name -> Edit .csproj
  3. Remove the lines specified above from the file and save
  4. Right-click project name -> Reload Project

How to get a right click mouse event? Changing EventArgs to MouseEventArgs causes an error in Form1Designer?

This would definitely help Many!

Generate fixed length Strings filled with whitespaces

This code will have exactly the given amount of characters; filled with spaces or truncated on the right side:

private String leftpad(String text, int length) {
    return String.format("%" + length + "." + length + "s", text);
}

private String rightpad(String text, int length) {
    return String.format("%-" + length + "." + length + "s", text);
}

Rails Object to hash

There are some great suggestions here.

I think it's worth noting that you can treat an ActiveRecord model as a hash like so:

@customer = Customer.new( name: "John Jacob" )
@customer.name    # => "John Jacob"
@customer[:name]  # => "John Jacob"
@customer['name'] # => "John Jacob"

Therefore, instead of generating a hash of the attributes, you can use the object itself as a hash.

jquery to loop through table rows and cells, where checkob is checked, concatenate

Try this:

function createcodes() {

    $('.authors-list tr').each(function () {
        //processing this row
        //how to process each cell(table td) where there is checkbox
        $(this).find('td input:checked').each(function () {

             // it is checked, your code here...
        });
    });
}

Linux command: How to 'find' only text files?

How about this:

$ grep -rl "needle text" my_folder | tr '\n' '\0' | xargs -r -0 file | grep -e ':[^:]*text[^:]*$' | grep -v -e 'executable'

If you want the filenames without the file types, just add a final sed filter.

$ grep -rl "needle text" my_folder | tr '\n' '\0' | xargs -r -0 file | grep -e ':[^:]*text[^:]*$' | grep -v -e 'executable' | sed 's|:[^:]*$||'

You can filter-out unneeded file types by adding more -e 'type' options to the last grep command.

EDIT:

If your xargs version supports the -d option, the commands above become simpler:

$ grep -rl "needle text" my_folder | xargs -d '\n' -r file | grep -e ':[^:]*text[^:]*$' | grep -v -e 'executable' | sed 's|:[^:]*$||'

Multiple commands in an alias for bash

So use a semi-colon:

alias lock='gnome-screensaver; gnome-screen-saver-command --lock'

This doesn't work well if you want to supply arguments to the first command. Alternatively, create a trivial script in your $HOME/bin directory.

How to extract numbers from a string and get an array of ints?

Pattern p = Pattern.compile("-?\\d+");
Matcher m = p.matcher("There are more than -2 and less than 12 numbers here");
while (m.find()) {
  System.out.println(m.group());
}

... prints -2 and 12.

-? matches a leading negative sign -- optionally. \d matches a digit, and we need to write \ as \\ in a Java String though. So, \d+ matches 1 or more digits.

Environment Variable with Maven

Another solution would be to set MAVEN_OPTS (or other environment variables) in ${user.home}/.mavenrc (or %HOME%\mavenrc_pre.bat on windows).

Since Maven 3.3.1 there are new possibilities to set mvn command line parameters, if this is what you actually want:

  • ${maven.projectBasedir}/.mvn/maven.config
  • ${maven.projectBasedir}/.mvn/jvm.config

    var ulChild=liparent.find('ul');
    var xOffset=liparent.offset().left;
    var alignRight=($(document).width()-xOffset)<xOffset;

    if (liparent.hasClass("dropdown-submenu"))
    {
        ulChild.css("left",alignRight?"-101%":"");
    }
    else
    {
        ulChild.toggleClass("dropdown-menu-right",alignRight);
    }

});

To detect vertical position you can also add

$( document ).ready(function() {
        var liparent=$(".dropdown");
    var yOffset=liparent.offset().top;
        var toTop=($(document).height()-yOffset)<yOffset;
    liparent.toggleClass("dropup",toTop);
});

How to make div appear in front of another?

I think you're missing something.

http://jsfiddle.net/ZNtKj/

<ul>
 <li style="height:100px;overflow:hidden;">
  <div style="height:500px; background-color:black;">
  </div>
 </li>
</ul>
<ul>
 <li style="height:100px;">
  <div style="height:500px; background-color:red;">
  </div>
 </li>
</ul>

In FF4, this displays a 100px black bar, followed by a 500px red block.

A little bit different example:

http://jsfiddle.net/ZNtKj/1/

<ul>
 <li style="height:100px;overflow:hidden;">
  <div style="height:500px; background-color:black;">
  </div>
 </li>
</ul>
<ul>
 <li style="height:100px;">
  <div style="height:500px; background-color:red;">
  </div>
 </li>
 <li style="height:100px;overflow:hidden;">
  <div style="height:500px; background-color:blue;">
  </div>
 </li>
 <li style="height:100px;overflow:hidden;">
  <div style="height:500px; background-color:green;">
  </div>
 </li>
</ul>

Visual Studio popup: "the operation could not be completed"

I had to remove a webproject. There was an old referencing DLL file inside, and I had to clean that webproject, and then it worked.

SQL Delete Records within a specific Range

you can also just change your delete to a select *

and test your selection

the records selected will be the same as the ones deleted

you can also wrap your statement in a begin / rollback if you are not sure - test the statement then if all is good remove rollback

for example

SELECT * FROM table WHERE id BETWEEN 79 AND 296

will show all the records matching the where if they are the wants you 'really' want to delete then use

DELETE FROM table WHERE id BETWEEN 79 AND 296

You can also create a trigger / which catches deletes and puts them into a history table

so if you delete something by mistake you can always get it back

(keep your history table records no older than say 6 months or whatever business rules say)

In Python, what is the difference between ".append()" and "+= []"?

+= is an assignment. When you use it you're really saying ‘some_list2= some_list2+['something']’. Assignments involve rebinding, so:

l= []

def a1(x):
    l.append(x) # works

def a2(x):
    l= l+[x] # assign to l, makes l local
             # so attempt to read l for addition gives UnboundLocalError

def a3(x):
    l+= [x] # fails for the same reason

The += operator should also normally create a new list object like list+list normally does:

>>> l1= []
>>> l2= l1

>>> l1.append('x')
>>> l1 is l2
True

>>> l1= l1+['x']
>>> l1 is l2
False

However in reality:

>>> l2= l1
>>> l1+= ['x']
>>> l1 is l2
True

This is because Python lists implement __iadd__() to make a += augmented assignment short-circuit and call list.extend() instead. (It's a bit of a strange wart this: it usually does what you meant, but for confusing reasons.)

In general, if you're appending/extended an existing list, and you want to keep the reference to the same list (instead of making a new one), it's best to be explicit and stick with the append()/extend() methods.

Query an object array using linq

Add:

using System.Linq;

to the top of your file.

And then:

Car[] carList = ...
var carMake =
    from item in carList
    where item.Model == "bmw"
    select item.Make;

or if you prefer the fluent syntax:

var carMake = carList
    .Where(item => item.Model == "bmw")
    .Select(item => item.Make);

Things to pay attention to:

  • The usage of item.Make in the select clause instead if s.Make as in your code.
  • You have a whitespace between item and .Model in your where clause

How can I make all images of different height and width the same via CSS?

Without code this is difficult to help you but here's some practical advice for you:

I suspect that your "image wall" has some sort of container with an id or class to give it styles.

eg:

<body>

<div id="maincontainer">
  <div id="header"></div>

  <div id="content">
    <div id="imagewall">
      <img src"img.jpg">
<!-- code continues -->

Styling a size on all images for your image wall, while not affecting other images, like you logo, etc. is easy if your code is set up similar to the above.

#imagewall img {
  width: 100px;
  height: 100px; }

But if your images are not perfectly square they will be skewed using this method.

Input and output numpy arrays to h5py

A cleaner way to handle file open/close and avoid memory leaks:

Prep:

import numpy as np
import h5py

data_to_write = np.random.random(size=(100,20)) # or some such

Write:

with h5py.File('name-of-file.h5', 'w') as hf:
    hf.create_dataset("name-of-dataset",  data=data_to_write)

Read:

with h5py.File('name-of-file.h5', 'r') as hf:
    data = hf['name-of-dataset'][:]

Closing Application with Exit button

You cannot exit your application. Using android.finish() won't exit the application, it just kills the activity. It's used when we don't want to see the previous activity on back button click. The application automatically exits when you switch off the device. The Android architecture does not support exiting the app. If you want, you can forcefully exit the app, but that's not considered good practice.

How do I remove blank elements from an array?

Use reject:

>> cities = ["Kathmandu", "Pokhara", "", "Dharan", "Butwal"].reject{ |e| e.empty? }
=> ["Kathmandu", "Pokhara", "Dharan", "Butwal"]

Adding an identity to an existing column

If you happen to be using Visual Studio 2017+

  1. In Server Object Explorer right-click on your table and select "view code"
  2. Add the modifier "IDENTITY" to your column
  3. Update

This will do it all for you.

How can I run a windows batch file but hide the command window?

If you write an unmanaged program and use CreateProcess API then you should initialize lpStartupInfo parameter of the type STARTUPINFO so that wShowWindow field of the struct is SW_HIDE and not forget to use STARTF_USESHOWWINDOW flag in the dwFlags field of STARTUPINFO. Another method is to use CREATE_NO_WINDOW flag of dwCreationFlags parameter. The same trick work also with ShellExecute and ShellExecuteEx functions.

If you write a managed application you should follows advices from http://blogs.msdn.com/b/jmstall/archive/2006/09/28/createnowindow.aspx: initialize ProcessStartInfo with CreateNoWindow = true and UseShellExecute = false and then use as a parameter of . Exactly like in case of you can set property WindowStyle of ProcessStartInfo to ProcessWindowStyle.Hidden instead or together with CreateNoWindow = true.

You can use a VBS script which you start with wcsript.exe. Inside the script you can use CreateObject("WScript.Shell") and then Run with 0 as the second (intWindowStyle) parameter. See http://www.robvanderwoude.com/files/runnhide_vbs.txt as an example. I can continue with Kix, PowerShell and so on.

If you don't want to write any program you can use any existing utility like CMDOW /RUN /HID "c:\SomeDir\MyBatch.cmd", hstart /NOWINDOW /D=c:\scripts "c:\scripts\mybatch.bat", hstart /NOCONSOLE "batch_file_1.bat" which do exactly the same. I am sure that you will find much more such kind of free utilities.

In some scenario (for example starting from UNC path) it is important to set also a working directory to some local path (%SystemRoot%\system32 work always). This can be important for usage any from above listed variants of starting hidden batch.

Math.random() versus Random.nextInt(int)

Here is the detailed explanation of why "Random.nextInt(n) is both more efficient and less biased than Math.random() * n" from the Sun forums post that Gili linked to:

Math.random() uses Random.nextDouble() internally.

Random.nextDouble() uses Random.next() twice to generate a double that has approximately uniformly distributed bits in its mantissa, so it is uniformly distributed in the range 0 to 1-(2^-53).

Random.nextInt(n) uses Random.next() less than twice on average- it uses it once, and if the value obtained is above the highest multiple of n below MAX_INT it tries again, otherwise is returns the value modulo n (this prevents the values above the highest multiple of n below MAX_INT skewing the distribution), so returning a value which is uniformly distributed in the range 0 to n-1.

Prior to scaling by 6, the output of Math.random() is one of 2^53 possible values drawn from a uniform distribution.

Scaling by 6 doesn't alter the number of possible values, and casting to an int then forces these values into one of six 'buckets' (0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5), each bucket corresponding to ranges encompassing either 1501199875790165 or 1501199875790166 of the possible values (as 6 is not a disvisor of 2^53). This means that for a sufficient number of dice rolls (or a die with a sufficiently large number of sides), the die will show itself to be biased towards the larger buckets.

You will be waiting a very long time rolling dice for this effect to show up.

Math.random() also requires about twice the processing and is subject to synchronization.

JMS Topic vs Queues

A JMS topic is the type of destination in a 1-to-many model of distribution. The same published message is received by all consuming subscribers. You can also call this the 'broadcast' model. You can think of a topic as the equivalent of a Subject in an Observer design pattern for distributed computing. Some JMS providers efficiently choose to implement this as UDP instead of TCP. For topic's the message delivery is 'fire-and-forget' - if no one listens, the message just disappears. If that's not what you want, you can use 'durable subscriptions'.

A JMS queue is a 1-to-1 destination of messages. The message is received by only one of the consuming receivers (please note: consistently using subscribers for 'topic client's and receivers for queue client's avoids confusion). Messages sent to a queue are stored on disk or memory until someone picks it up or it expires. So queues (and durable subscriptions) need some active storage management, you need to think about slow consumers.

In most environments, I would argue, topics are the better choice because you can always add additional components without having to change the architecture. Added components could be monitoring, logging, analytics, etc. You never know at the beginning of the project what the requirements will be like in 1 year, 5 years, 10 years. Change is inevitable, embrace it :-)

PHP output showing little black diamonds with a question mark

Go to your phpmyadmin and select your database and just increase the length/value of that table's field to 500 or 1000 it will solve your problem.

What's alternative to angular.copy in Angular

The alternative for deep copying objects having nested objects inside is by using lodash's cloneDeep method.

For Angular, you can do it like this:

Install lodash with yarn add lodash or npm install lodash.

In your component, import cloneDeep and use it:

import { cloneDeep } from "lodash";
...
clonedObject = cloneDeep(originalObject);

It's only 18kb added to your build, well worth for the benefits.

I've also written an article here, if you need more insight on why using lodash's cloneDeep.

Get IFrame's document, from JavaScript in main document

In case you get a cross-domain error:

If you have control over the content of the iframe - that is, if it is merely loaded in a cross-origin setup such as on Amazon Mechanical Turk - you can circumvent this problem with the <body onload='my_func(my_arg)'> attribute for the inner html.

For example, for the inner html, use the this html parameter (yes - this is defined and it refers to the parent window of the inner body element):

<body onload='changeForm(this)'>

In the inner html :

    function changeForm(window) {
        console.log('inner window loaded: do whatever you want with the inner html');
        window.document.getElementById('mturk_form').style.display = 'none';
    </script>

GSON - Date format

This won't really work at all. There is no date type in JSON. I would recommend to serialize to ISO8601 back and forth (for format agnostics and JS compat). Consider that you have to know which fields contain dates.

How To Launch Git Bash from DOS Command Line?

I prefer to use git-bash.exe instead of sh.exe.

start "" "%ProgramFiles%\Git\git-bash.exe" -c "tail -f /c/Windows/win.ini"

You can stop closing the window when call /usr/bin/bash --login -i in the end;

start "" "%ProgramFiles%\Git\git-bash.exe" -c "echo 1 && echo 2 && /usr/bin/bash --login -i"

Note: I'm not sure this is a good way :)

How to stop an app on Heroku?

Accessing localhost:port from Android emulator

I have a webserver running on my localhost.

If I open up the emulator and want to connect to my localhost I am using 192.168.x.x. This means you should use your local lan ip address. By the way, your HttpResponseException (Bad Request) doesn't mean that the host is not reachable.

Some other errors lead to this exception.

Fatal error: Call to undefined function sqlsrv_connect()

First check that the extension is properly loaded in phpinfo(); (something like sqlsrv should appear). If not, the extension isn't properly loaded. You also need to restart apache after installing an extension.

JavaScript - cannot set property of undefined

In javascript almost everything is an object, null and undefined are exception.

Instances of Array is an object. so you can set property of an array, for the same reason,you can't set property of a undefined, because its NOT an object

React - how to pass state to another component

Move all of your state and your handleClick function from Header to your MainWrapper component.

Then pass values as props to all components that need to share this functionality.

class MainWrapper extends React.Component {
    constructor() {
        super();
        this.state = {
            sidbarPushCollapsed: false,
            profileCollapsed: false
        };
        this.handleClick = this.handleClick.bind(this);
    }
    handleClick() {
        this.setState({
            sidbarPushCollapsed: !this.state.sidbarPushCollapsed,
            profileCollapsed: !this.state.profileCollapsed

        });
    }
    render() {
        return (
           //...
           <Header
               handleClick={this.handleClick}
               sidbarPushCollapsed={this.state.sidbarPushCollapsed}
               profileCollapsed={this.state.profileCollapsed} />
        );

Then in your Header's render() method, you'd use this.props:

<button type="button" id="sidbarPush" onClick={this.props.handleClick} profile={this.props.profileCollapsed}>

PHP: If internet explorer 6, 7, 8 , or 9

PHP has a function called get_browser() that will return an object (or array if you so choose) with details about the users' browser and what it can do.

A simple look through gave me this code:

$browser = get_browser( null, true );
if( $browser['name'] == "Firefox" )
    if( $browser['majorversion'] == 4 )
        echo "You're using Firefox version 4!";

This is not a surefire way (as it reads from HTTP_USER_AGENT, which can be spoofed, and will sometimes be analyzed wrong by php), but it's the easiest one that you can find as far as I know.

GCC: array type has incomplete element type

The compiler needs to know the size of the second dimension in your two dimensional array. For example:

void print_graph(g_node graph_node[], double weight[][5], int nodes);

How to create a GUID in Excel?

The formula for German Excel:

=KLEIN(
    VERKETTEN(
        DEZINHEX(ZUFALLSBEREICH(0;POTENZ(16;8));8);"-";
        DEZINHEX(ZUFALLSBEREICH(0;POTENZ(16;4));4);"-";"4";
        DEZINHEX(ZUFALLSBEREICH(0;POTENZ(16;3));3);"-";
        DEZINHEX(ZUFALLSBEREICH(8;11));
        DEZINHEX(ZUFALLSBEREICH(0;POTENZ(16;3));3);"-";
        DEZINHEX(ZUFALLSBEREICH(0;POTENZ(16;8));8);
        DEZINHEX(ZUFALLSBEREICH(0;POTENZ(16;4));
    )
)

How do I declare a two dimensional array?

And for me the argument about whether an array should be sparse or not depends on the context.

For example, if $a[6][9] is not populated is the equivalent to $a[6][9] being populated with for example with "" or 0.

how to change onclick event with jquery?

You can easily change the onclick event of an element with jQuery without running the new function with:

$("#id").attr("onclick","new_function_name()");

By writing this line you actually change the onclick attribute of #id.

You can also use:

document.getElementById("id").attribute("onclick","new_function_name()");

How do I get the HTTP status code with jQuery?

I found this solution where you can simply, check the server response code using status code.

Example :

$.ajax({
type : "POST",
url : "/package/callApi/createUser",
data : JSON.stringify(data),
contentType: "application/json; charset=UTF-8",
success: function (response) {
    alert("Account created");
},
statusCode: {
    403: function() {
       // Only if your server returns a 403 status code can it come in this block. :-)
        alert("Username already exist");
    }
},
error: function (e) {
    alert("Server error - " + e);
}
});

It is probably the h1 tag causing the problem. Applying margin: 0; should fix the problem.

But you should use a CSS reset for every new project to eliminate browser consistencies and problems like yours. Probably the most famous one is Eric Meyer's: http://meyerweb.com/eric/tools/css/reset/

Date Difference in php on days?

I would recommend to use date->diff function, as in example below:

   $dStart = new DateTime('2012-07-26');
   $dEnd  = new DateTime('2012-08-26');
   $dDiff = $dStart->diff($dEnd);
   echo $dDiff->format('%r%a'); // use for point out relation: smaller/greater

see http://www.php.net/manual/en/datetime.diff.php

How to create windows service from java jar?

Another option is winsw: https://github.com/kohsuke/winsw/

Configure an xml file to specify the service name, what to execute, any arguments etc. And use the exe to install. Example xml: https://github.com/kohsuke/winsw/tree/master/examples

I prefer this to nssm, because it is one lightweight exe; and the config xml is easy to share/commit to source code.

PS the service is installed by running your-service.exe install

Java switch statement: Constant expression required, but it IS constant

You can use an enum like in this example:

public class MainClass {
enum Choice { Choice1, Choice2, Choice3 }
public static void main(String[] args) {
Choice ch = Choice.Choice1;

switch(ch) {
  case Choice1:
    System.out.println("Choice1 selected");
    break;
 case Choice2:
   System.out.println("Choice2 selected");
   break;
 case Choice3:
   System.out.println("Choice3 selected");
   break;
    }
  }
}

jQuery: Can I call delay() between addClass() and such?

You can create a new queue item to do your removing of the class:

$("#div").addClass("error").delay(1000).queue(function(next){
    $(this).removeClass("error");
    next();
});

Or using the dequeue method:

$("#div").addClass("error").delay(1000).queue(function(){
    $(this).removeClass("error").dequeue();
});

The reason you need to call next or dequeue is to let jQuery know that you are done with this queued item and that it should move on to the next one.

Format cell if cell contains date less than today

=$W$4<=TODAY()

Returns true for dates up to and including today, false otherwise.

DataFrame constructor not properly called! error

You are providing a string representation of a dict to the DataFrame constructor, and not a dict itself. So this is the reason you get that error.

So if you want to use your code, you could do:

df = DataFrame(eval(data))

But better would be to not create the string in the first place, but directly putting it in a dict. Something roughly like:

data = []
for row in result_set:
    data.append({'value': row["tag_expression"], 'key': row["tag_name"]})

But probably even this is not needed, as depending on what is exactly in your result_set you could probably:

  • provide this directly to a DataFrame: DataFrame(result_set)
  • or use the pandas read_sql_query function to do this for you (see docs on this)

Printing out all the objects in array list

You have to define public String toString() method in your Student class. For example:

public String toString() {
  return "Student: " + studentName + ", " + studentNo;
}

MySQL, update multiple tables with one query

That's usually what stored procedures are for: to implement several SQL statements in a sequence. Using rollbacks, you can ensure that they are treated as one unit of work, ie either they are all executed or none of them are, to keep data consistent.

Missing MVC template in Visual Studio 2015

For me, I saw none of the MVC templates (except the bottom two), after installing Update 3 which installed all the Core stuff.

missing mvc

Solution

I downloaded most recent core preview...

corepreview

It prompted me for "repair" and after it was done, bringing up VS indicated it was "Installing Templates" and they appeared!

Warning

Update 3 is a game changer in that the "preferred" way of doing things is to use dotnetcore. For example a console application now uses the new file stucture, other projects such as a Test Project still use the same folder structure as before. But MVC has changed. I'm not even sure what other "Web Developer Tools" work with dotnetcore right now.

Remove spacing between table cells and rows

If you see table class it has border-spacing: 2px; You could override table class in your css and set its border-spacing: 0px!important in table; I did it like

table {
      border-collapse: separate;
      white-space: normal;
      line-height: normal;
      font-weight: normal;
      font-size: medium;
      font-style: normal;
      color: -internal-quirk-inherit;
      text-align: start;
      border-spacing: 0px!important;
      font-variant: normal;   }

It saved my day.Hope it would be of help. Thanks.

Using set_facts and with_items together in Ansible

There is a workaround which may help. You may "register" results for each set_fact iteration and then map that results to list:

---
- hosts: localhost
  tasks:
  - name: set fact
    set_fact: foo_item="{{ item }}"
    with_items:
      - four
      - five
      - six
    register: foo_result

  - name: make a list
    set_fact: foo="{{ foo_result.results | map(attribute='ansible_facts.foo_item') | list }}"

  - debug: var=foo

Output:

< TASK: debug var=foo >
 ---------------------
    \   ^__^
     \  (oo)\_______
        (__)\       )\/\
            ||----w |
            ||     ||

ok: [localhost] => {
    "var": {
        "foo": [
            "four",
            "five",
            "six"
        ]
    }
}

Change value of input placeholder via model?

The accepted answer still threw a Javascript error in IE for me (for Angular 1.2 at least). It is a bug but the workaround is to use ngAttr detailed on https://docs.angularjs.org/guide/interpolation

<input type="text" ng-model="inputText" ng-attr-placeholder="{{somePlaceholder}}" />

How to import JSON File into a TypeScript file?

Aonepathan's one-liner was working for me until a recent typescript update.

I found Jecelyn Yeen's post which suggests posting this snippet into your TS Definition file

add file typings.d.ts to the project's root folder with below content

declare module "*.json" {
    const value: any;
    export default value;
}

and then import your data like this:

import * as data from './example.json';

update July 2019:

Typescript 2.9 (docs) introduced a better, smarter solution. Steps:

  1. Add resolveJsonModule support with this line in your tsconfig.json file:
"compilerOptions": {
    ...
    "resolveJsonModule": true
  }

the import statement can now assumes a default export:

import data from './example.json';

and intellisense will now check the json file to see whether you can use Array etc. methods. pretty cool.

tSQL - Conversion from varchar to numeric works for all but integer

Presumably, you want to convert values before the decimal place to an integer. If so, use case and check for the right format:

SELECT (case when varcharcol not like '%.%' then cast(varcharcol as int)
             else cast(left(varcharcol, chardindex('.', varcharcol) - 1) as int)
        end) IntVal

HTML: How to limit file upload to be only images?

This is what I have been using successfully:

...
<div class="custom-file">
    <input type="file" class="custom-file-input image-gallery" id="image-gallery" name="image-gallery[]" multiple accept="image/*">
   <label class="custom-file-label" for="image-gallery">Upload Image(s)</label>
</div>
...

It is always a good idea to check for the actual file type on the server-side as well.

How can I change the version of npm using nvm?

I had same issue after installing nvm-windows on top of existing Node installation. Solution was just to follow the instructions:

You should also delete the existing npm install location (e.g. "C:\Users\AppData\Roaming\npm") so that the nvm install location will be correctly used instead.

How to list the files inside a JAR file?

I would like to expand on acheron55's answer, since it is a very non-safe solution, for several reasons:

  1. It doesn't close the FileSystem object.
  2. It doesn't check if the FileSystem object already exists.
  3. It isn't thread-safe.

This is somewhat a safer solution:

private static ConcurrentMap<String, Object> locks = new ConcurrentHashMap<>();

public void walk(String path) throws Exception {

    URI uri = getClass().getResource(path).toURI();
    if ("jar".equals(uri.getScheme()) {
        safeWalkJar(path, uri);
    } else {
        Files.walk(Paths.get(path));
    }
}

private void safeWalkJar(String path, URI uri) throws Exception {

    synchronized (getLock(uri)) {
        // this'll close the FileSystem object at the end
        try (FileSystem fs = getFileSystem(uri)) {
            Files.walk(fs.getPath(path));
        }
    }
}

private Object getLock(URI uri) {

    String fileName = parseFileName(uri);
    locks.computeIfAbsent(fileName, s -> new Object());
    return locks.get(fileName);
}

private String parseFileName(URI uri) {

    String schemeSpecificPart = uri.getSchemeSpecificPart();
    return schemeSpecificPart.substring(0, schemeSpecificPart.indexOf("!"));
}

private FileSystem getFileSystem(URI uri) throws IOException {

    try {
        return FileSystems.getFileSystem(uri);
    } catch (FileSystemNotFoundException e) {
        return FileSystems.newFileSystem(uri, Collections.<String, String>emptyMap());
    }
}

There's no real need to synchronize over the file name; one could simply synchronize on the same object every time (or make the method synchronized), it's purely an optimization.

I would say that this is still a problematic solution, since there might be other parts in the code that use the FileSystem interface over the same files, and it could interfere with them (even in a single threaded application).
Also, it doesn't check for nulls (for instance, on getClass().getResource().

This particular Java NIO interface is kind of horrible, since it introduces a global/singleton non thread-safe resource, and its documentation is extremely vague (a lot of unknowns due to provider specific implementations). Results may vary for other FileSystem providers (not JAR). Maybe there's a good reason for it being that way; I don't know, I haven't researched the implementations.

Java ArrayList - Check if list is empty

You should use method listName.isEmpty()

Determine if JavaScript value is an "integer"?

Use jQuery's IsNumeric method.

http://api.jquery.com/jQuery.isNumeric/

if ($.isNumeric(id)) {
   //it's numeric
}

CORRECTION: that would not ensure an integer. This would:

if ( (id+"").match(/^\d+$/) ) {
   //it's all digits
}

That, of course, doesn't use jQuery, but I assume jQuery isn't actually mandatory as long as the solution works

What is the @Html.DisplayFor syntax for?

DisplayFor is also useful for templating. You could write a template for your Model, and do something like this:

@Html.DisplayFor(m => m)

Similar to @Html.EditorFor(m => m). It's useful for the DRY principal so that you don't have to write the same display logic over and over for the same Model.

Take a look at this blog on MVC2 templates. It's still very applicable to MVC3:

http://www.dalsoft.co.uk/blog/index.php/2010/04/26/mvc-2-templates/

It's also useful if your Model has a Data annotation. For instance, if the property on the model is decorated with the EmailAddress data annotation, DisplayFor will render it as a mailto: link.

For the things that you are suggesting you can just change the levels using the levels:

levels(iris$Species)[3] <- 'new'

Basic HTTP and Bearer Token Authentication

curl --anyauth

Tells curl to figure out authentication method by itself, and use the most secure one the remote site claims to support. This is done by first doing a request and checking the response- headers, thus possibly inducing an extra network round-trip. This is used instead of setting a specific authentication method, which you can do with --basic, --digest, --ntlm, and --negotiate.

how to configure hibernate config file for sql server

Properties that are database specific are:

  • hibernate.connection.driver_class: JDBC driver class
  • hibernate.connection.url: JDBC URL
  • hibernate.connection.username: database user
  • hibernate.connection.password: database password
  • hibernate.dialect: The class name of a Hibernate org.hibernate.dialect.Dialect which allows Hibernate to generate SQL optimized for a particular relational database.

To change the database, you must:

  1. Provide an appropriate JDBC driver for the database on the class path,
  2. Change the JDBC properties (driver, url, user, password)
  3. Change the Dialect used by Hibernate to talk to the database

There are two drivers to connect to SQL Server; the open source jTDS and the Microsoft one. The driver class and the JDBC URL depend on which one you use.

With the jTDS driver

The driver class name is net.sourceforge.jtds.jdbc.Driver.

The URL format for sqlserver is:

 jdbc:jtds:sqlserver://<server>[:<port>][/<database>][;<property>=<value>[;...]]

So the Hibernate configuration would look like (note that you can skip the hibernate. prefix in the properties):

<hibernate-configuration>
  <session-factory>
    <property name="connection.driver_class">net.sourceforge.jtds.jdbc.Driver</property>
    <property name="connection.url">jdbc:jtds:sqlserver://<server>[:<port>][/<database>]</property>
    <property name="connection.username">sa</property>
    <property name="connection.password">lal</property>

    <property name="dialect">org.hibernate.dialect.SQLServerDialect</property>

    ...
  </session-factory>
</hibernate-configuration>

With Microsoft SQL Server JDBC 3.0:

The driver class name is com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver.

The URL format is:

jdbc:sqlserver://[serverName[\instanceName][:portNumber]][;property=value[;property=value]]

So the Hibernate configuration would look like:

<hibernate-configuration>
  <session-factory>
    <property name="connection.driver_class">com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver</property>
    <property name="connection.url">jdbc:sqlserver://[serverName[\instanceName][:portNumber]];databaseName=<databaseName></property>
    <property name="connection.username">sa</property>
    <property name="connection.password">lal</property>

    <property name="dialect">org.hibernate.dialect.SQLServerDialect</property>

    ...
  </session-factory>
</hibernate-configuration>
