[c] C Programming: How to read the whole file contents into a buffer

A portable solution could use getc.

#include <stdio.h>

char buffer[MAX_FILE_SIZE];
size_t i;

for (i = 0; i < MAX_FILE_SIZE; ++i)
{
    int c = getc(fp);

    if (c == EOF)
    {
        buffer[i] = 0x00;
        break;
    }

    buffer[i] = c;
}

If you don't want to have a MAX_FILE_SIZE macro or if it is a big number (such that buffer would be to big to fit on the stack), use dynamic allocation.
