How to configure SMTP settings in web.config

I don't have enough rep to answer ClintEastwood, and the accepted answer is correct for the Web.config file. Adding this in for code difference.

When your mailSettings are set on Web.config, you don't need to do anything other than new up your SmtpClient and .Send. It finds the connection itself without needing to be referenced. You would change your C# from this:

SmtpClient smtpClient = new SmtpClient("smtp.sender.you", Convert.ToInt32(587));
System.Net.NetworkCredential credentials = new System.Net.NetworkCredential("username", "password");
smtpClient.Credentials = credentials;
smtpClient.Send(msgMail);

To this:

SmtpClient smtpClient = new SmtpClient();
smtpClient.Send(msgMail);

How can I play sound in Java?

I didn't want to have so many lines of code just to play a simple damn sound. This can work if you have the JavaFX package (already included in my jdk 8).

private static void playSound(String sound){
    // cl is the ClassLoader for the current class, ie. CurrentClass.class.getClassLoader();
    URL file = cl.getResource(sound);
    final Media media = new Media(file.toString());
    final MediaPlayer mediaPlayer = new MediaPlayer(media);
    mediaPlayer.play();
}

Notice : You need to initialize JavaFX. A quick way to do that, is to call the constructor of JFXPanel() once in your app :

static{
    JFXPanel fxPanel = new JFXPanel();
}

How to Extract Year from DATE in POSTGRESQL

answer is;

select date_part('year', timestamp '2001-02-16 20:38:40') as year,
       date_part('month', timestamp '2001-02-16 20:38:40') as month,
       date_part('day', timestamp '2001-02-16 20:38:40') as day,
       date_part('hour', timestamp '2001-02-16 20:38:40') as hour,
       date_part('minute', timestamp '2001-02-16 20:38:40') as minute

How do I get the current date and time in PHP?

Very simple

date_default_timezone_set('Asia/Kolkata');
$date = date('m/d/Y H:i:s', time());

How can I increase the cursor speed in terminal?

If by "cursor speed", you mean the repeat rate when holding down a key - then have a look here: http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20090823193018149

To summarize, open up a Terminal window and type the following command:

defaults write NSGlobalDomain KeyRepeat -int 0

More detail from the article:

Everybody knows that you can get a pretty fast keyboard repeat rate by changing a slider on the Keyboard tab of the Keyboard & Mouse System Preferences panel. But you can make it even faster! In Terminal, run this command:

defaults write NSGlobalDomain KeyRepeat -int 0

Then log out and log in again. The fastest setting obtainable via System Preferences is 2 (lower numbers are faster), so you may also want to try a value of 1 if 0 seems too fast. You can always visit the Keyboard & Mouse System Preferences panel to undo your changes.

You may find that a few applications don't handle extremely fast keyboard input very well, but most will do just fine with it.

Pandas - Plotting a stacked Bar Chart

That should help

df.groupby(['NFF', 'ABUSE']).size().unstack().plot(kind='bar', stacked=True)

How to update/upgrade a package using pip?

The way is

pip install [package_name] --upgrade

or in short

pip install [package_name] -U

Using sudo will ask to enter your root password to confirm the action, but although common, is considered unsafe.

If you do not have a root password (if you are not the admin) you should probably work with virtualenv.

You can also use the user flag to install it on this user only.

pip install [package_name] --upgrade --user

Run an Ansible task only when the variable contains a specific string

None of the above answers worked for me in ansible 2.3.0.0, but the following does:

when: variable1 | search("value")

In ansible 2.9 this is deprecated in favor of using ~ concatenation for variable replacement:

when: "variable1.find('v=' ~ value) == -1"

http://jinja.pocoo.org/docs/dev/templates/#other-operators

Other options:

when: "inventory_hostname in groups[sync_source]"

Find oldest/youngest datetime object in a list

Datetimes are comparable; so you can use max(datetimes_list) and min(datetimes_list)

Object variable or With block variable not set (Error 91)

As I wrote in my comment, the solution to your problem is to write the following:

Set hyperLinkText = hprlink.Range

Set is needed because TextRange is a class, so hyperLinkText is an object; as such, if you want to assign it, you need to make it point to the actual object that you need.

jQuery: how to trigger anchor link's click event

It worked for me:

     window.location = $('#myanchor').attr('href');

Enabling/Disabling Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport

You go to your "device manager", find your "network adapters", then should find the virtual wifi adapter, then right click it and enable it. After that, you start your cmd with admin privileges, then try:

netsh wlan start hostednetwork

Use of Application.DoEvents()

From my experience I would advise great caution with using DoEvents in .NET. I experienced some very strange results when using DoEvents in a TabControl containing DataGridViews. On the other hand, if all you're dealing with is a small form with a progress bar then it might be OK.

The bottom line is: if you are going to use DoEvents, then you need to test it thoroughly before deploying your application.

Naming convention - underscore in C++ and C# variables

There's no particular single naming convention, but I've seen that for private members.

Set order of columns in pandas dataframe

Try indexing (so you want a generic solution not only for this, so index order can be just what you want):

l=[0,2,1] # index order
frame=frame[[frame.columns[i] for i in l]]

Now:

print(frame)

Is:

   one thing second thing other thing
0          1           0.1           a
1          2           0.2           e
2          3           1.0           i
3          4           2.0           o

Make a dictionary with duplicate keys in Python

You can't have a dict with duplicate keys for definition! Instead you can use a single key and, as value, a list of elements that had that key.

So you can follow these steps:

  1. See if the current element's (of your initial set) key is in the final dict. If it is, go to step 3
  2. Update dict with key
  3. Append the new value to the dict[key] list
  4. Repeat [1-3]

How to get ° character in a string in python?

Put this line at the top of your source

# -*- coding: utf-8 -*-

If your editor uses a different encoding, substitute for utf-8

Then you can include utf-8 characters directly in the source

Make virtualenv inherit specific packages from your global site-packages

You can use the --system-site-packages and then "overinstall" the specific stuff for your virtualenv. That way, everything you install into your virtualenv will be taken from there, otherwise it will be taken from your system.

How do I change the default location for Git Bash on Windows?

I am using Git bash on Windows 10, here is my solution:

  1. Close all git bash sessions
  2. Hit windows key and type: env; then click Edit environment variables for your account (control panel)
  3. Under "User variables for ...."; hit New button
  4. Variable Name: HOME
  5. Variable value: path where you would like ~/ to be in git bash

Open a git bash session and test it by typing: pwd and double check by doing cd ~/ && pwd

How can I set the max-width of a table cell using percentages?

Old question I know, but this is now possible using the css property table-layout: fixed on the table tag. Answer below from this question CSS percentage width and text-overflow in a table cell

This is easily done by using table-layout: fixed, but a little tricky because not many people know about this CSS property.

table {
  width: 100%;
  table-layout: fixed;
}

See it in action at the updated fiddle here: http://jsfiddle.net/Fm5bM/4/

Select all elements with a "data-xxx" attribute without using jQuery

document.querySelectorAll("[data-foo]")

will get you all elements with that attribute.

document.querySelectorAll("[data-foo='1']")

will only get you ones with a value of 1.

ProcessStartInfo hanging on "WaitForExit"? Why?

I solved it this way:

            Process proc = new Process();
            proc.StartInfo.FileName = batchFile;
            proc.StartInfo.UseShellExecute = false;
            proc.StartInfo.CreateNoWindow = true;
            proc.StartInfo.RedirectStandardError = true;
            proc.StartInfo.RedirectStandardInput = true;
            proc.StartInfo.RedirectStandardOutput = true;
            proc.StartInfo.WindowStyle = ProcessWindowStyle.Hidden;
            proc.Start();
            StreamWriter streamWriter = proc.StandardInput;
            StreamReader outputReader = proc.StandardOutput;
            StreamReader errorReader = proc.StandardError;
            while (!outputReader.EndOfStream)
            {
                string text = outputReader.ReadLine();
                streamWriter.WriteLine(text);
            }

            while (!errorReader.EndOfStream)
            {
                string text = errorReader.ReadLine();
                streamWriter.WriteLine(text);
            }

            streamWriter.Close();
            proc.WaitForExit();

I redirected both input, output and error and handled reading from output and error streams. This solution works for SDK 7- 8.1, both for Windows 7 and Windows 8

Setting default values for columns in JPA

Seeing as I stumbled upon this from Google while trying to solve the very same problem, I'm just gonna throw in the solution I cooked up in case someone finds it useful.

From my point of view there's really only 1 solutions to this problem -- @PrePersist. If you do it in @PrePersist, you gotta check if the value's been set already though.

E: Unable to locate package mongodb-org

I faced same issue but fix it by the changing the package file section command. The whole step that i followed was:

At first try with this command: sudo apt-get install -y mongodb

This is the unofficial mongodb package provided by Ubuntu and it is not maintained by MongoDB and conflict with MongoDB’s offically supported packages.

If the above command not working then you can fix the issue by one of the bellow procedure:

#Step 1: Import the MongoDB public key
#In Ubuntu 18.*+, you may get invalid signatures. --recv value may need to be updated to EA312927.
#See here for more details on the invalid signature issue: [https://stackoverflow.com/questions/34733340/mongodb-gpg-invalid-signatures][1]

sudo apt-key adv --keyserver hkp://keyserver.ubuntu.com:80 --recv 7F0CEB10

#Step 2: Generate a file with the MongoDB repository url
echo 'deb http://downloads-distro.mongodb.org/repo/ubuntu-upstart dist 10gen' | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/mongodb.list

#Step 3: Refresh the local database with the packages
sudo apt-get update

#Step 4: Install the last stable MongoDB version and all the necessary packages on our system
sudo apt-get install mongodb-org

         #Or
# The unofficial mongodb package provided by Ubuntu is not maintained by MongoDB and conflict with MongoDB’s offically supported packages. Use the official MongoDB mongodb-org packages, which are kept up-to-date with the most recent major and minor MongoDB releases.
sudo apt-get install -y mongodb

Hope this will work for you also. You can follow this MongoDB

Update The above instruction will install mongodb 2.6 version, if you want to install latest version for Uubuntu 12.04 then just replace above step 2 and follow bellow instruction instead of that:

#Step 2: Generate a file with the MongoDB repository url
echo "deb http://repo.mongodb.org/apt/ubuntu trusty/mongodb-org/3.0 multiverse" | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/mongodb.list

If you are using Ubuntu 14.04 then use bellow step instead of above step 2

#Step 2: Generate a file with the MongoDB repository url
echo "deb http://repo.mongodb.org/apt/ubuntu trusty/mongodb-org/3.0 multiverse" | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/mongodb-org-3.0.list

Meaning of delta or epsilon argument of assertEquals for double values

I just want to mention the great AssertJ library. It's my go to assertion library for JUnit 4 and 5 and also solves this problem elegantly:

assertThat(actual).isCloseTo(expectedDouble, within(delta))

find if an integer exists in a list of integers

Here is a extension method, this allows coding like the SQL IN command.

public static bool In<T>(this T o, params T[] values)
{
    if (values == null) return false;

    return values.Contains(o);
}
public static bool In<T>(this T o, IEnumerable<T> values)
{
    if (values == null) return false;

    return values.Contains(o);
}

This allows stuff like that:

List<int> ints = new List<int>( new[] {1,5,7});
int i = 5;
bool isIn = i.In(ints);

Or:

int i = 5;
bool isIn = i.In(1,2,3,4,5);

Split list into smaller lists (split in half)

While the answers above are more or less correct, you may run into trouble if the size of your array isn't divisible by 2, as the result of a / 2, a being odd, is a float in python 3.0, and in earlier version if you specify from __future__ import division at the beginning of your script. You are in any case better off going for integer division, i.e. a // 2, in order to get "forward" compatibility of your code.

Nested objects in javascript, best practices

var defaultSettings = {
    ajaxsettings: {},
    uisettings: {}
};

Take a look at this site: http://www.json.org/

Also, you can try calling JSON.stringify() on one of your objects from the browser to see the json format. You'd have to do this in the console or a test page.

How to uninstall pip on OSX?

Aditionally to the answer from @srk, you should uninstall package setuptools:

python -m pip uninstall pip setuptools

If you want to uninstall all other packages first, this answer has some hints: https://stackoverflow.com/a/11250821/265954

Note: before you use the commands from that answer, please carefully read the comments about side effects and how to avoid uninstalling pip and setuptools too early. E.g. pip freeze | grep -v "^-e" | grep -v "^(setuptools|pip)" | xargs pip uninstall -y

How to get query params from url in Angular 2?

I hope it will help someone else.

Question above states that query param value is needed after page has been redirected and we can assume that snapshot value (the no-observable alternative) would be sufficient.

No one here mentioned about snapshot.paramMap.get from the official documentation.

this.route.snapshot.paramMap.get('id')

So before sending it add this in sending/re-directing component:

import { Router } from '@angular/router';

then re-direct as either (documented here):

this.router.navigate(['/heroes', { id: heroId, foo: 'foo' }]);

or simply:

this.router.navigate(['/heroes', heroId ]);

Make sure you have added this in your routing module as documented here:

 { path: 'hero/:id', component: HeroDetailComponent }

And finally, in your component which needs to use the query param

  • add imports (documented here):

    import { Router, ActivatedRoute, ParamMap } from '@angular/router';

  • inject ActivatedRoute

( documentation also imports switchMap and also injects Router and HeroService - but they are needed for observable alternative only - they are NOT needed when you use snapshot alternative as in our case ):

    constructor(
      private route: ActivatedRoute
    ) {}
  • and get the value you need ( documented here):

    ngOnInit() {
      const id = this.route.snapshot.paramMap.get('id');
    }

NOTE: IF YOU ADD ROUTING-MODULE TO A FEATURE MODULE (AS SHOWN IN DOCUMENTATION) MAKE SURE THAT IN APP.MODULE.ts THAT ROUTING MODULE COMES BEFORE AppRoutingModule (or other file with root-level app routes) IN IMPORTS: [] . OTHERWISE FEATURE ROUTES WILL NOT BE FOUND (AS THEY WOULD COME AFTER { path: '**', redirectTo: '/not-found' } and you would see only not-found message).

jquery loop on Json data using $.each

var data = [
 {"Id": 10004, "PageName": "club"},
 {"Id": 10040, "PageName": "qaz"},
 {"Id": 10059, "PageName": "jjjjjjj"}
];

$.each(data, function(i, item) {
    alert(data[i].PageName);
});

$.each(data, function(i, item) {
    alert(item.PageName);
});

these two options work well, unless you have something like:

var data.result = [
 {"Id": 10004, "PageName": "club"},
 {"Id": 10040, "PageName": "qaz"},
 {"Id": 10059, "PageName": "jjjjjjj"}
];

$.each(data.result, function(i, item) {
    alert(data.result[i].PageName);
});

EDIT:

try with this and describes what the result

$.get('/Cms/GetPages/123', function(data) {
  alert(data);
});

FOR EDIT 3:

this corrects the problem, but not the idea to use "eval", you should see how are the response in '/Cms/GetPages/123'.

$.get('/Cms/GetPages/123', function(data) {
  $.each(eval(data.replace(/[\r\n]/, "")), function(i, item) {
   alert(item.PageName);
  });
});

Trying to use Spring Boot REST to Read JSON String from POST

The issue appears with parsing the JSON from request body, tipical for an invalid JSON. If you're using curl on windows, try escaping the json like -d "{"name":"value"}" or even -d "{"""name""":"value"""}"

On the other hand you can ommit the content-type header in which case whetewer is sent will be converted to your String argument

Adding text to ImageView in Android

Best Option to use text and image in a single view try this:

<TextView
        android:id="@+id/textView1"
        android:layout_width="wrap_content"
        android:layout_height="wrap_content"

        android:drawableBottom="@drawable/ic_launcher"

        android:text="TextView" />

MYSQL Sum Query with IF Condition

Try with a CASE in this way :

Should give what you are looking for ...

jQuery.css() - marginLeft vs. margin-left?

Hi i tried this it is working.

$("#change_align").css({"margin-top":"-39px","margin-right":"0px","margin-bottom":"0px","margin-left":"719px"});

"While .. End While" doesn't work in VBA?

VBA is not VB/VB.NET

The correct reference to use is Do..Loop Statement (VBA). Also see the article Excel VBA For, Do While, and Do Until. One way to write this is:

Do While counter < 20
    counter = counter + 1
Loop

(But a For..Next might be more appropriate here.)

Happy coding.

This is essentially the same thing. Use whatever you find more convenient.

How to prevent page scrolling when scrolling a DIV element?

All you need is

What is the simplest way to SSH using Python?

You can code it yourself using Paramiko, as suggested above. Alternatively, you can look into Fabric, a python application for doing all the things you asked about:

Fabric is a Python library and command-line tool designed to streamline deploying applications or performing system administration tasks via the SSH protocol. It provides tools for running arbitrary shell commands (either as a normal login user, or via sudo), uploading and downloading files, and so forth.

I think this fits your needs. It is also not a large library and requires no server installation, although it does have dependencies on paramiko and pycrypt that require installation on the client.

The app used to be here. It can now be found here.

* The official, canonical repository is git.fabfile.org
* The official Github mirror is GitHub/bitprophet/fabric

There are several good articles on it, though you should be careful because it has changed in the last six months:

This is mostly cosmetic, however: ssh is a fork of paramiko, the maintainer for both libraries is the same (Jeff Forcier, also the author of Fabric), and the maintainer has plans to reunite paramiko and ssh under the name paramiko. (This correction via pbanka.)

Use custom build output folder when using create-react-app

Based on the answers by Ben Carp and Wallace Sidhrée:

This is what I use to copy my entire build folder to my wamp public folder.

package.json

{
  "name": "[your project name]",
  "homepage": "http://localhost/[your project name]/",
  "version": "0.0.1",
  [...]
  "scripts": {
    "build": "react-scripts build",
    "postbuild": "@powershell -NoProfile -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted -Command ./post_build.ps1",
    [...]
  },
}

post_build.ps1

Copy-Item "./build/*" -Destination "C:/wamp64/www/[your project name]" -Recurse -force

The homepage line is only needed if you are deploying to a subfolder on your server (See This answer from another question).

how to change namespace of entire project?

Go to someplace the namespace is declared in one of your files. Put the cursor on the part of the namespace you want to change, and press F2. This should rename the namespace in every file. At least, it worked in my little demo project I created to test this answer!

Depending on your VS version, the shortcut might also be Ctrl-R,Ctrl-R.

How to send POST in angularjs with multiple params?

You can only send 1 object as a parameter in the body via post. I would change your Post method to

public void Post(ICollection<Product> products)
{
}

and in your angular code you would pass up a product array in JSON notation

Is there a Google Sheets formula to put the name of the sheet into a cell?

if you want to use build-in functions:

=REGEXEXTRACT(cell("address";'Sheet1'!A1);"^'(.*)'!\$A\$1$")

Explanation: cell("address";'Sheet1'!A1) gives you the address of the sheet, output is 'Sheet1'!$A$1. Now we need to extract the actual sheet name from this output. I'm using REGEXEXTRACT to match it by regex ^'(.*)'!\$A\$1$, but you can either use more/less specific regex or use functions like SUBSTITUTE or REPLACE

What is the correct way to read a serial port using .NET framework?

How to automate drag & drop functionality using Selenium WebDriver Java

There is a page documenting Advanced User Interactions; which has a lot of great examples on how to generate a sequence of actions, you can find it here

// Configure the action
Actions builder = new Actions(driver);

builder.keyDown(Keys.CONTROL)
   .click(someElement)
   .click(someOtherElement)
   .keyUp(Keys.CONTROL);

// Then get the action:
Action selectMultiple = builder.build();

// And execute it:
selectMultiple.perform();

or

Actions builder = new Actions(driver);

Action dragAndDrop = builder.clickAndHold(someElement)
   .moveToElement(otherElement)
   .release(otherElement)
   .build();

dragAndDrop.perform();

Reading output of a command into an array in Bash

Here is an example. Imagine that you are going to put the files and directory names (under the current folder) to an array and count its items. The script would be like;

my_array=( `ls` )
my_array_length=${#my_array[@]}
echo $my_array_length

Or, you can iterate over this array by adding the following script:

for element in "${my_array[@]}"
do
   echo "${element}"
done

Please note that this is the core concept and the input is considered to be sanitized before, i.e. removing extra characters, handling empty Strings, and etc. (which is out of the topic of this thread).

bootstrap.min.js:6 Uncaught Error: Bootstrap dropdown require Popper.js

I was facing this issue, then I put my dropdown in nav tag. Worked for me that way.

Split string based on a regular expression

By using (,), you are capturing the group, if you simply remove them you will not have this problem.

>>> str1 = "a    b     c      d"
>>> re.split(" +", str1)
['a', 'b', 'c', 'd']

However there is no need for regex, str.split without any delimiter specified will split this by whitespace for you. This would be the best way in this case.

>>> str1.split()
['a', 'b', 'c', 'd']

If you really wanted regex you can use this ('\s' represents whitespace and it's clearer):

>>> re.split("\s+", str1)
['a', 'b', 'c', 'd']

or you can find all non-whitespace characters

>>> re.findall(r'\S+',str1)
['a', 'b', 'c', 'd']

XSL xsl:template match="/"

The value of the match attribute of the <xsl:template> instruction must be a match pattern.

Match patterns form a subset of the set of all possible XPath expressions. The first, natural, limitation is that a match pattern must select a set of nodes. There are also other limitations. In particular, reverse axes are not allowed in the location steps (but can be specified within the predicates). Also, no variable or parameter references are allowed in XSLT 1.0, but using these is legal in XSLT 2.x.

Regular expression to match a line that doesn't contain a word

The OP did not specify or Tag the post to indicate the context (programming language, editor, tool) the Regex will be used within.

For me, I sometimes need to do this while editing a file using Textpad.

Textpad supports some Regex, but does not support lookahead or lookbehind, so it takes a few steps.

If I am looking to retain all lines that Do NOT contain the string hede, I would do it like this:

1. Search/replace the entire file to add a unique "Tag" to the beginning of each line containing any text.

    Search string:^(.)
    Replace string:<@#-unique-#@>\1
    Replace-all

2. Delete all lines that contain the string hede (replacement string is empty):

    Search string:<@#-unique-#@>.*hede.*\n
    Replace string:<nothing>
    Replace-all

3. At this point, all remaining lines Do NOT contain the string hede. Remove the unique "Tag" from all lines (replacement string is empty):

    Search string:<@#-unique-#@>
    Replace string:<nothing>
    Replace-all

Now you have the original text with all lines containing the string hede removed.

If I am looking to Do Something Else to only lines that Do NOT contain the string hede, I would do it like this:

1. Search/replace the entire file to add a unique "Tag" to the beginning of each line containing any text.

    Search string:^(.)
    Replace string:<@#-unique-#@>\1
    Replace-all

2. For all lines that contain the string hede, remove the unique "Tag":

    Search string:<@#-unique-#@>(.*hede)
    Replace string:\1
    Replace-all

3. At this point, all lines that begin with the unique "Tag", Do NOT contain the string hede. I can now do my Something Else to only those lines.

4. When I am done, I remove the unique "Tag" from all lines (replacement string is empty):

    Search string:<@#-unique-#@>
    Replace string:<nothing>
    Replace-all

Android error: Failed to install *.apk on device *: timeout

What I usually do when I get this error is restarting the adb server by typing in the cmd:

adb kill-server

adb start-server

EDIT: With some never versions of the Platform Tools you can do this from the DDMS Perspective in the Devices Tab menu (near the Capture Button), click on Reset adb.

EDIT2: Also I found out that it is preferable to use the USB port in the back of your PC, since most of the front USB ports are low powered, and really seem to be slower when uploading apks on your devices.

Gradle does not find tools.jar

With Centos 7, I have found that only JDK has tools.jar, while JRE has not. I have installed the Java 8 JRE(yum install java-1.8.0-openjdk), but not the JDK(yum install java-1.8.0-openjdk-devel).

Installing the latter solves the problem. Also, remember to set JAVA_HOME.

Difference between git checkout --track origin/branch and git checkout -b branch origin/branch

The two commands have the same effect (thanks to Robert Siemer’s answer for pointing it out).

The practical difference comes when using a local branch named differently:

  • git checkout -b mybranch origin/abranch will create mybranch and track origin/abranch
  • git checkout --track origin/abranch will only create 'abranch', not a branch with a different name.

(That is, as commented by Sebastian Graf, if the local branch did not exist already.
If it did, you would need git checkout -B abranch origin/abranch)

Note: with Git 2.23 (Q3 2019), that would use the new command git switch:

git switch -c <branch> --track <remote>/<branch>

If the branch exists in multiple remotes and one of them is named by the checkout.defaultRemote configuration variable, we'll use that one for the purposes of disambiguation, even if the <branch> isn't unique across all remotes.
Set it to e.g. checkout.defaultRemote=origin to always checkout remote branches from there if <branch> is ambiguous but exists on the 'origin' remote.

Here, '-c' is the new '-b'.

First, some background: Tracking means that a local branch has its upstream set to a remote branch:

# git config branch.<branch-name>.remote origin
# git config branch.<branch-name>.merge refs/heads/branch

git checkout -b branch origin/branch will:

  • create/reset branch to the point referenced by origin/branch.
  • create the branch branch (with git branch) and track the remote tracking branch origin/branch.

When a local branch is started off a remote-tracking branch, Git sets up the branch (specifically the branch.<name>.remote and branch.<name>.merge configuration entries) so that git pull will appropriately merge from the remote-tracking branch.
This behavior may be changed via the global branch.autosetupmerge configuration flag. That setting can be overridden by using the --track and --no-track options, and changed later using git branch --set-upstream-to.

And git checkout --track origin/branch will do the same as git branch --set-upstream-to):

 # or, since 1.7.0
 git branch --set-upstream upstream/branch branch
 # or, since 1.8.0 (October 2012)
 git branch --set-upstream-to upstream/branch branch
 # the short version remains the same:
 git branch -u upstream/branch branch

It would also set the upstream for 'branch'.

(Note: git1.8.0 will deprecate git branch --set-upstream and replace it with git branch -u|--set-upstream-to: see git1.8.0-rc1 announce)

Having an upstream branch registered for a local branch will:

  • tell git to show the relationship between the two branches in git status and git branch -v.
  • directs git pull without arguments to pull from the upstream when the new branch is checked out.

See "How do you make an existing git branch track a remote branch?" for more.

How can I change my default database in SQL Server without using MS SQL Server Management Studio?

To do it the GUI way, you need to go edit your login. One of its properties is the default database used for that login. You can find the list of logins under the Logins node under the Security node. Then select your login and right-click and pick Properties. Change the default database and your life will be better!

Note that someone with sysadmin privs needs to be able to login to do this or to run the query from the previous post.

        form = MyForm(request.POST)

        print form['my_field'].value()

        if form.is_valid():

            print form.cleaned_data['my_field']
            print form.instance.my_field

            form.save()

Note: the field is accessed as soon as it's available.

Found shared references to a collection org.hibernate.HibernateException

Explanation on practice. If you try to save your object, e.g.:

Set<Folder> folders = message.getFolders();
   folders.remove(inputFolder);
   folders.add(trashFolder);
   message.setFiles(folders);
MESSAGESDAO.getMessageDAO().save(message);

you don't need to set updated object to a parent object:

message.setFiles(folders);

Simple save your parent object like:

Set<Folder> folders = message.getFolders();
   folders.remove(inputFolder);
   folders.add(trashFolder);
   // Not set updated object here
MESSAGESDAO.getMessageDAO().save(message);

Looping from 1 to infinity in Python

Using itertools.count:

import itertools
for i in itertools.count(start=1):
    if there_is_a_reason_to_break(i):
        break

In Python 2, range() and xrange() were limited to sys.maxsize. In Python 3 range() can go much higher, though not to infinity:

import sys
for i in range(sys.maxsize**10): # you could go even higher if you really want
    if there_is_a_reason_to_break(i):
        break

So it's probably best to use count().

Laravel-5 how to populate select box from database with id value and name value

Many has been said already but keep in mind that there are a times where u don't want to output all the records from the database into your select input field ..... Key example I have been working on this school management site where I have to output all the noticeboard categories in a select statement. From my controller this is the code I wrote

Noticeboard:: groupBy()->pluck('category')->get();

This way u get distinct record as they have been grouped so no repetition of records

How can I close a Twitter Bootstrap popover with a click from anywhere (else) on the page?

git remote prune – didn't show as many pruned branches as I expected

When you use git push origin :staleStuff, it automatically removes origin/staleStuff, so when you ran git remote prune origin, you have pruned some branch that was removed by someone else. It's more likely that your co-workers now need to run git prune to get rid of branches you have removed.

So what exactly git remote prune does? Main idea: local branches (not tracking branches) are not touched by git remote prune command and should be removed manually.

Now, a real-world example for better understanding:

You have a remote repository with 2 branches: master and feature. Let's assume that you are working on both branches, so as a result you have these references in your local repository (full reference names are given to avoid any confusion):

  • refs/heads/master (short name master)
  • refs/heads/feature (short name feature)
  • refs/remotes/origin/master (short name origin/master)
  • refs/remotes/origin/feature (short name origin/feature)

Now, a typical scenario:

  1. Some other developer finishes all work on the feature, merges it into master and removes feature branch from remote repository.
  2. By default, when you do git fetch (or git pull), no references are removed from your local repository, so you still have all those 4 references.
  3. You decide to clean them up, and run git remote prune origin.
  4. git detects that feature branch no longer exists, so refs/remotes/origin/feature is a stale branch which should be removed.
  5. Now you have 3 references, including refs/heads/feature, because git remote prune does not remove any refs/heads/* references.

It is possible to identify local branches, associated with remote tracking branches, by branch.<branch_name>.merge configuration parameter. This parameter is not really required for anything to work (probably except git pull), so it might be missing.

(updated with example & useful info from comments)

Reading From A Text File - Batch

Your code "for /f "tokens=* delims=" %%x in (a.txt) do echo %%x" will work on most Windows Operating Systems unless you have modified commands.

So you could instead "cd" into the directory to read from before executing the "for /f" command to follow out the string. For instance if the file "a.txt" is located at C:\documents and settings\%USERNAME%\desktop\a.txt then you'd use the following.

cd "C:\documents and settings\%USERNAME%\desktop"
for /f "tokens=* delims=" %%x in (a.txt) do echo %%x
echo.
echo.
echo.
pause >nul
exit

But since this doesn't work on your computer for x reason there is an easier and more efficient way of doing this. Using the "type" command.

@echo off
color a
cls
cd "C:\documents and settings\%USERNAME%\desktop"
type a.txt
echo.
echo.
pause >nul
exit

Or if you'd like them to select the file from which to write in the batch you could do the following.

@echo off
:A
color a
cls
echo Choose the file that you want to read.
echo.
echo.
tree
echo.
echo.
echo.
set file=
set /p file=File:
cls
echo Reading from %file%
echo.
type %file%
echo.
echo.
echo.
set re=
set /p re=Y/N?:
if %re%==Y goto :A
if %re%==y goto :A
exit

import os

abs_path = 'C://a/b/c'
rel_path = './folder'

os.chdir(abs_path)
os.chdir(rel_path)

You can use both with os.chdir(abs_path) or os.chdir(rel_path), there's no need to call os.getcwd() to use a relative path.

Bootstrap date and time picker

If you are still interested in a javascript api to select both date and time data, have a look at these projects which are forks of bootstrap datepicker:

The first fork is a big refactor on the parsing/formatting codebase and besides providing all views to select date/time using mouse/touch, it also has a mask option (by default) which lets the user to quickly type the date/time based on a pre-specified format.

How do I trim whitespace from a string?

Well seeing this thread as a beginner got my head spinning. Hence came up with a simple shortcut.

Though str.strip() works to remove leading & trailing spaces it does nothing for spaces between characters.

words=input("Enter the word to test")
# If I have a user enter discontinous threads it becomes a problem
# input = "   he llo, ho w are y ou  "
n=words.strip()
print(n)
# output "he llo, ho w are y ou" - only leading & trailing spaces are removed

Instead use str.replace() to make more sense plus less error & more to the point. The following code can generalize the use of str.replace()

def whitespace(words):
    r=words.replace(' ','') # removes all whitespace
    n=r.replace(',','|') # other uses of replace
    return n
def run():
    words=input("Enter the word to test") # take user input
    m=whitespace(words) #encase the def in run() to imporve usability on various functions
    o=m.count('f') # for testing
    return m,o
print(run())
output- ('hello|howareyou', 0)

Can be helpful while inheriting the same in diff. functions.

react change class name on state change

Below is a fully functional example of what I believe you're trying to do (with a functional snippet).

Explanation

Based on your question, you seem to be modifying 1 property in state for all of your elements. That's why when you click on one, all of them are being changed.

In particular, notice that the state tracks an index of which element is active. When MyClickable is clicked, it tells the Container its index, Container updates the state, and subsequently the isActive property of the appropriate MyClickables.

Example

Update: "Loops"

In response to a comment about a "loop" version, I believe the question is about rendering an array of MyClickable elements. We won't use a loop, but map, which is typical in React + JSX. The following should give you the same result as above, but it works with an array of elements.

// New render method for `Container`
render() {
  const clickables = [
    { name: "a" },
    { name: "b" },
    { name: "c" },
  ]

  return <div>
      { clickables.map(function(clickable, i) {
          return <MyClickable key={ clickable.name }
            name={ clickable.name }
            index={ i }
            isActive={ this.state.activeIndex === i }
            onClick={ this.handleClick }
          />
        } )

A warning - comparison between signed and unsigned integer expressions

The important difference between signed and unsigned ints is the interpretation of the last bit. The last bit in signed types represent the sign of the number, meaning: e.g:

0001 is 1 signed and unsigned 1001 is -1 signed and 9 unsigned

(I avoided the whole complement issue for clarity of explanation! This is not exactly how ints are represented in memory!)

You can imagine that it makes a difference to know if you compare with -1 or with +9. In many cases, programmers are just too lazy to declare counting ints as unsigned (bloating the for loop head f.i.) It is usually not an issue because with ints you have to count to 2^31 until your sign bit bites you. That's why it is only a warning. Because we are too lazy to write 'unsigned' instead of 'int'.

Specify system property to Maven project

Is there a way ( I mean how do I ) set a system property in a maven project? I want to access a property from my test [...]

You can set system properties in the Maven Surefire Plugin configuration (this makes sense since tests are forked by default). From Using System Properties:

<project>
  [...]
  <build>
    <plugins>
      <plugin>
        <groupId>org.apache.maven.plugins</groupId>
        <artifactId>maven-surefire-plugin</artifactId>
        <version>2.5</version>
        <configuration>
          <systemPropertyVariables>
            <propertyName>propertyValue</propertyName>
            <buildDirectory>${project.build.directory}</buildDirectory>
            [...]
          </systemPropertyVariables>
        </configuration>
      </plugin>
    </plugins>
  </build>
  [...]
</project>

and my webapp ( running locally )

Not sure what you mean here but I'll assume the webapp container is started by Maven. You can pass system properties on the command line using:

mvn -DargLine="-DpropertyName=propertyValue"

Update: Ok, got it now. For Jetty, you should also be able to set system properties in the Maven Jetty Plugin configuration. From Setting System Properties:

<project>
  ...
  <plugins>
    ...
      <plugin>
        <groupId>org.mortbay.jetty</groupId>
        <artifactId>maven-jetty-plugin</artifactId>
        <configuration>
         ...
         <systemProperties>
            <systemProperty>
              <name>propertyName</name>
              <value>propertyValue</value>
            </systemProperty>
            ...
         </systemProperties>
        </configuration>
      </plugin>
  </plugins>
</project>

How to resolve compiler warning 'implicit declaration of function memset'

Old question but I had similar issue and I solved it by adding

extern void* memset(void*, int, size_t);

or just

extern void* memset();

at the top of translation unit ( *.c file ).

C++ obtaining milliseconds time on Linux -- clock() doesn't seem to work properly

I wrote a C++ class using timeb.

#include <sys/timeb.h>
class msTimer
{
public:
    msTimer();
    void restart();
    float elapsedMs();
private:
    timeb t_start;
};

Member functions:

msTimer::msTimer()
{
    restart();
}

void msTimer::restart()
{
    ftime(&t_start);
}

float msTimer::elapsedMs()
{
    timeb t_now;
    ftime(&t_now);
    return (float)(t_now.time - t_start.time) * 1000.0f +
           (float)(t_now.millitm - t_start.millitm);
}

Example of use:

#include <cstdlib>
#include <iostream>

using namespace std;

int main(int argc, char** argv)
{
    msTimer t;
    for (int i = 0; i < 5000000; i++)
        ;
    std::cout << t.elapsedMs() << endl;
    return 0;
}

Output on my computer is '19'. Accuracy of the msTimer class is of the order of milliseconds. In the usage example above, the total time of execution taken up by the for-loop is tracked. This time included the operating system switching in and out the execution context of main() due to multitasking.

What is a vertical tab?

I have found that the VT char is used in pptx text boxes at the end of each line shown in the box in oder to adjust the text to the size of the box. It seems to be automatically generated by powerpoint (not introduced by the user) in order to move the text to the next line and fix the complete text block to the text box. In the example below, in the position of §:

"This is a text §

Most efficient conversion of ResultSet to JSON?

For all who've opted for the if-else mesh solution, please use:

String columnName = metadata.getColumnName(
String displayName = metadata.getColumnLabel(i);
switch (metadata.getColumnType(i)) {
case Types.ARRAY:
    obj.put(displayName, resultSet.getArray(columnName));
    break;
...

Because in case of aliases in your query, the column name and column label are two different things. For example if you execute:

select col1, col2 as my_alias from table

You will get

[
    { "col1": 1, "col2": 2 },
    { "col1": 1, "col2": 2 }
]

Rather than:

[
    { "col1": 1, "my_alias": 2 },
    { "col1": 1, "my_alias": 2 }
]

Base64 String throwing invalid character error

One gotcha to do with converting Base64 from a string is that some conversion functions use the preceding "data:image/jpg;base64," and others only accept the actual data.

How to create a HTML Table from a PHP array?

this will print 2-dimensional array as table.

First row will be header.

function array_to_table($table)
{
    echo "<table>";

    // Table header
    foreach ($table[0] as $header) {
      echo "<th>".$header."</th>";
    }

    // Table body
    $body = array_slice( $table, 1, null, true);
    foreach ($body as $row) {
      echo "<tr>";
        foreach ($row as $cell) {
          echo "<td>".$cell."</td>";
        }
      echo "</tr>";
    }
  echo "</table>";
}

usage:

arrayOfArrays = array(
    array('header1',"header2","header3"),
    array('1.1','1.2','1.3'),
    array('2.1','2.2','2.3'),
);

array_to_table($arrayOfArrays);

result:

<table><tbody><tr><th>header1</th><th>header2</th><th>header3/th><tr><td>1.1</td><td>1.2</td><td>1.3</td></tr><tr><td>2.1</td><td>2.2</td><td>2.3</td></tr><tr><td>3.1</td><td>3.2</td><td>3.3</td></tr></tbody></table>

How to find length of a string array?

Since you haven't initialized car yet so it has no existence in JVM(Java Virtual Machine) so you have to initialize it first.

For instance :

String car [];
car = new String{"Porsche","Lamborghini"};
System.out.println(car.length);

Chrome ignores autocomplete="off"

Up until just this last week, the two solutions below appeared to work for Chrome, IE and Firefox. But with the release of Chrome version 48 (and still in 49), they no longer work:

  1. The following at the top of the form:
<input style="display:none" type="text" name="fakeUsername"/>
<input style="display:none" type="password" name="fakePassword"/>
  1. The following in the password input element:

    autocomplete="off"

So to quickly fix this, at first I tried to use a major hack of initially setting the password input element to disabled and then used a setTimeout in the document ready function to enable it again.

setTimeout(function(){$('#PasswordData').prop('disabled', false);}, 50);

But this seemed so crazy and I did some more searching and found @tibalts answer in Disabling Chrome Autofill. His answer is to use autocomplete="new-password" in the passwords input and this appears to work on all browsers (I have kept my fix number 1 above at this stage).

Here is the link in the Google Chrome developer discussion: https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=370363#c7

Git push rejected after feature branch rebase

What is wrong with a git merge master on the feature branch? This will preserve the work you had, while keeping it separate from the mainline branch.

A--B--C------F--G
       \         \
        D--E------H

Edit: Ah sorry did not read your problem statement. You will need force as you performed a rebase. All commands that modify the history will need the --force argument. This is a failsafe to prevent you from losing work (the old D and E would be lost).

So you performed a git rebase which made the tree look like (although partially hidden as D and E are no longer in a named branch):

A--B--C------F--G
       \         \
        D--E      D'--E'

So, when trying to push your new feature branch (with D' and E' in it), you would lose D and E.

org.hibernate.QueryException: could not resolve property: filename

Hibernate queries are case sensitive with property names (because they end up relying on getter/setter methods on the @Entity).

Make sure you refer to the property as fileName in the Criteria query, not filename.

Specifically, Hibernate will call the getter method of the filename property when executing that Criteria query, so it will look for a method called getFilename(). But the property is called FileName and the getter getFileName().

So, change the projection like so:

criteria.setProjection(Projections.property("fileName"));

Map a network drive to be used by a service

You could us the 'net use' command:

var p = System.Diagnostics.Process.Start("net.exe", "use K: \\\\Server\\path");
var isCompleted = p.WaitForExit(5000);

If that does not work in a service, try the Winapi and PInvoke WNetAddConnection2

Edit: Obviously I misunderstood you - you can not change the sourcecode of the service, right? In that case I would follow the suggestion by mdb, but with a little twist: Create your own service (lets call it mapping service) that maps the drive and add this mapping service to the dependencies for the first (the actual working) service. That way the working service will not start before the mapping service has started (and mapped the drive).

How can I count the occurrences of a string within a file?

I'm taking some guesses here, because I don't quite understand what you're asking.

I think that what you want is a count of the number of lines on which the pattern 'echo' appears in the given file.

I've pasted your sample text into a file called 6741967.

First, grep finds the matches:

james@Brindle:tmp$grep echo 6741967
    echo "Preparing to add a new user..."
echo "1. Add user"
echo "2. Exit"
echo "Enter your choice: "

Second, use wc -l to count the lines

james@Brindle:tmp$grep echo 6741967  | wc -l
       4

SOAP vs REST (differences)

First of all: officially, the correct question would be web services + WSDL + SOAP vs REST.

Because, although the web service, is used in the loose sense, when using the HTTP protocol to transfer data instead of web pages, officially it is a very specific form of that idea. According to the definition, REST is not "web service".

In practice however, everyone ignores that, so let's ignore it too

There are already technical answers, so I'll try to provide some intuition.

Let's say you want to call a function in a remote computer, implemented in some other programming language (this is often called remote procedure call/RPC). Assume that function can be found at a specific URL, provided by the person who wrote it. You have to (somehow) send it a message, and get some response. So, there are two main questions to consider.

  • what is the format of the message you should send
  • how should the message be carried back and forth

For the first question, the official definition is WSDL. This is an XML file which describes, in detailed and strict format, what are the parameters, what are their types, names, default values, the name of the function to be called, etc. An example WSDL here shows that the file is human-readable (but not easily).

For the second question, there are various answers. However, the only one used in practice is SOAP. Its main idea is: wrap the previous XML (the actual message) into yet another XML (containing encoding info and other helpful stuff), and send it over HTTP. The POST method of the HTTP is used to send the message, since there is always a body.

The main idea of this whole approach is that you map a URL to a function, that is, to an action. So, if you have a list of customers in some server, and you want to view/update/delete one, you must have 3 URLS:

  • myapp/read-customer and in the body of the message, pass the id of the customer to be read.
  • myapp/update-customer and in the body, pass the id of the customer, as well as the new data
  • myapp/delete-customer and the id in the body

The REST approach sees things differently. A URL should not represent an action, but a thing (called resource in the REST lingo). Since the HTTP protocol (which we are already using) supports verbs, use those verbs to specify what actions to perform on the thing.

So, with the REST approach, customer number 12 would be found on URL myapp/customers/12. To view the customer data, you hit the URL with a GET request. To delete it, the same URL, with a DELETE verb. To update it, again, the same URL with a POST verb, and the new content in the request body.

For more details about the requirements that a service has to fulfil to be considered truly RESTful, see the Richardson maturity model. The article gives examples, and, more importantly, explains why a (so-called) SOAP service, is a level-0 REST service (although, level-0 means low compliance to this model, it's not offensive, and it is still useful in many cases).

How to insert a file in MySQL database?

You need to use BLOB, there's TINY, MEDIUM, LONG, and just BLOB, as with other types, choose one according to your size needs.

TINYBLOB 255
BLOB 65535
MEDIUMBLOB 16777215
LONGBLOB 4294967295
(in bytes)

The insert statement would be fairly normal. You need to read the file using fread and then addslashes to it.

SQL error "ORA-01722: invalid number"

This happened to me too, but the problem was actually different: file encoding.

The file was correct, but the file encoding was wrong. It was generated by the export utility of SQL Server and I saved it as Unicode.

The file itself looked good in the text editor, but when I opened the *.bad file that the SQL*loader generated with the rejected lines, I saw it had bad characters between every original character. Then I though about the encoding.

I opened the original file with Notepad++ and converted it to ANSI, and everything loaded properly.

How to get calendar Quarter from a date in TSQL

Assuming field data type INT and field name "mydate". In the OP question, the INT date values when converted to string are ISO date literals.

select DatePart(QUARTER, cast(cast(mydate as char(8)) as date))

You can use datetime if using older server version.

Check if value exists in Postgres array

When looking for the existence of a element in an array, proper casting is required to pass the SQL parser of postgres. Here is one example query using array contains operator in the join clause:

For simplicity I only list the relevant part:

table1 other_name text[]; -- is an array of text

The join part of SQL shown

from table1 t1 join table2 t2 on t1.other_name::text[] @> ARRAY[t2.panel::text]

The following also works

on t2.panel = ANY(t1.other_name)

I am just guessing that the extra casting is required because the parse does not have to fetch the table definition to figure the exact type of the column. Others please comment on this.

C++ initial value of reference to non-const must be an lvalue

When you pass a pointer by a non-const reference, you are telling the compiler that you are going to modify that pointer's value. Your code does not do that, but the compiler thinks that it does, or plans to do it in the future.

To fix this error, either declare x constant

// This tells the compiler that you are not planning to modify the pointer
// passed by reference
void test(float * const &x){
    *x = 1000;
}

or make a variable to which you assign a pointer to nKByte before calling test:

float nKByte = 100.0;
// If "test()" decides to modify `x`, the modification will be reflected in nKBytePtr
float *nKBytePtr = &nKByte;
test(nKBytePtr);

How to create an XML document using XmlDocument?

What about:

#region Using Statements
using System;
using System.Xml;
#endregion

class Program {
    static void Main( string[ ] args ) {
        XmlDocument doc = new XmlDocument( );

        //(1) the xml declaration is recommended, but not mandatory
        XmlDeclaration xmlDeclaration = doc.CreateXmlDeclaration( "1.0", "UTF-8", null );
        XmlElement root = doc.DocumentElement;
        doc.InsertBefore( xmlDeclaration, root );

        //(2) string.Empty makes cleaner code
        XmlElement element1 = doc.CreateElement( string.Empty, "body", string.Empty );
        doc.AppendChild( element1 );

        XmlElement element2 = doc.CreateElement( string.Empty, "level1", string.Empty );
        element1.AppendChild( element2 );

        XmlElement element3 = doc.CreateElement( string.Empty, "level2", string.Empty );
        XmlText text1 = doc.CreateTextNode( "text" );
        element3.AppendChild( text1 );
        element2.AppendChild( element3 );

        XmlElement element4 = doc.CreateElement( string.Empty, "level2", string.Empty );
        XmlText text2 = doc.CreateTextNode( "other text" );
        element4.AppendChild( text2 );
        element2.AppendChild( element4 );

        doc.Save( "D:\\document.xml" );
    }
}

(1) Does a valid XML file require an xml declaration?
(2) What is the difference between String.Empty and “” (empty string)?

The result is:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<body>
  <level1>
    <level2>text</level2>
    <level2>other text</level2>
  </level1>
</body>

But I recommend you to use LINQ to XML which is simpler and more readable like here:

#region Using Statements
using System;
using System.Xml.Linq;
#endregion

class Program {
    static void Main( string[ ] args ) {
        XDocument doc = new XDocument( new XElement( "body",
                                           new XElement( "level1",
                                               new XElement( "level2", "text" ),
                                               new XElement( "level2", "other text" ) ) ) );
        doc.Save( "D:\\document.xml" );
    }
}

Why not get rid of the inline javascript and do something like this instead?

Inline javascript is considered bad practice as it is outdated.

Notes

Why use addEventListener?

addEventListener is the way to register an event listener as specified in W3C DOM. Its benefits are as follows:

It allows adding more than a single handler for an event. This is particularly useful for DHTML libraries or Mozilla extensions that need to work well even if other libraries/extensions are used. It gives you finer-grained control of the phase when the listener gets activated (capturing vs. bubbling) It works on any DOM element, not just HTML elements.

<a id="back" href="www.mypage.com"> Link </a>

document.getElementById("back").addEventListener("click", window.history.back, false);

ORA-01008: not all variables bound. They are bound

Came here looking for help as got same error running a statement listed below while going through a Udemy course:

INSERT INTO departments (department_id, department_name)
                  values( &dpet_id, '&dname');

I'd been able to run statements with substitution variables before. Comment by Charles Burns about possibility of server reaching some threshold while recreating the variables prompted me to log out and restart the SQL Developer. The statement ran fine after logging back in.

Thought I'd share for anyone else venturing here with a limited scope issue as mine.

Force uninstall of Visual Studio

So Soumyaansh's Revo Uninstaller Pro fix worked for me :) ( After 2 days of troubleshooting other options {screams internally 😀} ).

I did run into the an issue with his method though, "Could not find a suitable SDK to target" even though I selected to install Visual Studio with custom settings and selected the SDK I wanted to install. You may need to download the Windows 10 Standalone SDK to resolved this, in order to develop UWP apps if you see this same error after reinstalling Visual Studio.

To do this

  1. Uninstall any Windows 10 SDKs that me on the system (the naming schem for them looks like Windows 10 SDK (WINDOWS_VERSION_NUMBER_HERE) -> Windows 10 SDK (14393) etc . . .). If there are no SDKs on your system go to step 2!
  2. All that's left is to download the SDKs you want by Checking out the SDK Archive for all available SDKs and you should be good to go in developing for the UWP!

Split string into array of character strings

Maybe you can use a for loop that goes through the String content and extract characters by characters using the charAt method.

Combined with an ArrayList<String> for example you can get your array of individual characters.

Datagridview: How to set a cell in editing mode?

Setting the CurrentCell and then calling BeginEdit(true) works well for me.

The following code shows an eventHandler for the KeyDown event that sets a cell to be editable.

My example only implements one of the required key press overrides but in theory the others should work the same. (and I'm always setting the [0][0] cell to be editable but any other cell should work)

    private void dataGridView1_KeyDown(object sender, KeyEventArgs e)
    {
        if (e.KeyCode == Keys.Tab && dataGridView1.CurrentCell.ColumnIndex == 1)
        {
            e.Handled = true;
            DataGridViewCell cell = dataGridView1.Rows[0].Cells[0];
            dataGridView1.CurrentCell = cell;
            dataGridView1.BeginEdit(true);
        }
    }

If you haven't found it previously, the DataGridView FAQ is a great resource, written by the program manager for the DataGridView control, which covers most of what you could want to do with the control.

PHP mail function doesn't complete sending of e-mail

First of all, you might have too many parameters for the mail() function... You are able to have of maximum of five, mail(to, subject, message, headers, parameters);

As far as the $from variable goes, that should automatically come from your webhost if your using the Linux cPanel. It automatically comes from your cPanel username and IP address.

$name = $_POST['name'];
$email = $_POST['email'];
$message = $_POST['message'];
$from = 'From: yoursite.com';
$to = '[email protected]';
$subject = 'Customer Inquiry';
$body = "From: $name\n E-Mail: $email\n Message:\n $message";

Also make sure you have the correct order of variables in your mail() function.

The mail($to, $subject, $message, etc.) in that order, or else there is a chance of it not working.

Getting the filenames of all files in a folder

Here's how to look in the documentation.

First, you're dealing with IO, so look in the java.io package.

There are two classes that look interesting: FileFilter and FileNameFilter. When I clicked on the first, it showed me that there was a a listFiles() method in the File class. And the documentation for that method says:

Returns an array of abstract pathnames denoting the files in the directory denoted by this abstract pathname.

Scrolling up in the File JavaDoc, I see the constructors. And that's really all I need to be able to create a File instance and call listFiles() on it. Scrolling still further, I can see some information about how files are named in different operating systems.

Accessing localhost of PC from USB connected Android mobile device

  1. Make sure you have adb installed on the computer, USB debugging enabled on the phone, and the phone has allowed access to the computer. Plug the phone into the computer via USB cable, and make sure it's visible (it should show up in the Bash command adb devices.
  2. In your computer's Chrome browser, open chrome://inspect/#devices, click the "Port forwarding" button, check "Enable port forwarding", and add the port on the computer that you want to be accessible from the phone (detailed instructions here). You'll need to keep open the tab running chrome://inspect/#devices.
  3. In your phone's browser, navigate to localhost:[port_number], and it should display whatever is running on the computer.

This works on Windows and Ubuntu Linux, and should work on Mac as well.

Python popen command. Wait until the command is finished

You can you use subprocess to achieve this.

#This command could have multiple commands separated by a new line \n
some_command = "export PATH=$PATH://server.sample.mo/app/bin \n customupload abc.txt"

p = subprocess.Popen(some_command, stdout=subprocess.PIPE, shell=True)

(output, err) = p.communicate()

#This makes the wait possible
p_status = p.wait()

#This will give you the output of the command being executed
print "Command output: " + output

HTML.ActionLink method

I think that Joseph flipped controller and action. First comes the action then the controller. This is somewhat strange, but the way the signature looks.

Just to clarify things, this is the version that works (adaption of Joseph's example):

    "Login",  // <-- ActionMethod
    "Item",   // <-- Controller Name
    new { id = article.ArticleID }, // <-- Route arguments.

How to save a base64 image to user's disk using JavaScript?

In JavaScript you cannot have the direct access to the filesystem. However, you can make browser to pop up a dialog window allowing the user to pick the save location. In order to do this, use the replace method with your Base64String and replace "image/png" with "image/octet-stream":

"data:image/png;base64,iVBORw0KG...".replace("image/png", "image/octet-stream");

Also, W3C-compliant browsers provide 2 methods to work with base64-encoded and binary data:

Probably, you will find them useful in a way...

batch file Copy files with certain extensions from multiple directories into one directory

Just use the XCOPY command with recursive option

xcopy c:\*.doc k:\mybackup /sy

/s will make it "recursive"

Looping over arrays, printing both index and value

You would find the array keys with "${!foo[@]}" (reference), so:

for i in "${!foo[@]}"; do
  printf "%s\t%s\n" "$i" "${foo[$i]}"
done

Which means that indices will be in $i while the elements themselves have to be accessed via ${foo[$i]}

Regular Expression to match only alphabetic characters

This will match one or more alphabetical characters:

/^[a-z]+$/

You can make it case insensitive using:

/^[a-z]+$/i

or:

/^[a-zA-Z]+$/

Sorting a Dictionary in place with respect to keys

Due to this answers high search placing I thought the LINQ OrderBy solution is worth showing:

class Person
{
    public Person(string firstname, string lastname)
    {
        FirstName = firstname;
        LastName = lastname;
    }
    public string FirstName { get; set; }
    public string LastName { get; set; }
}

static void Main(string[] args)
{
    Dictionary<Person, int> People = new Dictionary<Person, int>();

    People.Add(new Person("John", "Doe"), 1);
    People.Add(new Person("Mary", "Poe"), 2);
    People.Add(new Person("Richard", "Roe"), 3);
    People.Add(new Person("Anne", "Roe"), 4);
    People.Add(new Person("Mark", "Moe"), 5);
    People.Add(new Person("Larry", "Loe"), 6);
    People.Add(new Person("Jane", "Doe"), 7);

    foreach (KeyValuePair<Person, int> person in People.OrderBy(i => i.Key.LastName))
    {
        Debug.WriteLine(person.Key.LastName + ", " + person.Key.FirstName + " - Id: " + person.Value.ToString());
    }
}

Output:

Doe, John - Id: 1
Doe, Jane - Id: 7
Loe, Larry - Id: 6
Moe, Mark - Id: 5
Poe, Mary - Id: 2
Roe, Richard - Id: 3
Roe, Anne - Id: 4

In this example it would make sense to also use ThenBy for first names:

foreach (KeyValuePair<Person, int> person in People.OrderBy(i => i.Key.LastName).ThenBy(i => i.Key.FirstName))

Then the output is:

Doe, Jane - Id: 7
Doe, John - Id: 1
Loe, Larry - Id: 6
Moe, Mark - Id: 5
Poe, Mary - Id: 2
Roe, Anne - Id: 4
Roe, Richard - Id: 3

LINQ also has the OrderByDescending and ThenByDescending for those that need it.

How do I disable the resizable property of a textarea?

You can simply disable the textarea property like this:

textarea {
    resize: none;
}

To disable vertical or horizontal resizing, use

resize: vertical;

or

resize: horizontal;

Windows task scheduler error 101 launch failure code 2147943785

The user that is configured to run this scheduled task must have "Log on as a batch job" rights on the computer that hosts the exe you are launching. This can be configured on the local security policy of the computer that hosts the exe. You can change the policy (on the server hosting the exe) under

Administrative Tools -> Local Security Policy -> Local Policies -> User Rights Assignment -> Log On As Batch Job

Add your user to this list (you could also make the user account a local admin on the machine hosting the exe).

Finally, you could also simply copy your exe from the network location to your local computer and run it from there instead.

Note also that a domain policy could be restricting "Log on as a batch job" rights at your organization.

Pointer to a string in C?

The string is basically bounded from the place where it is pointed to (char *ptrChar;), to the null character (\0).

The char *ptrChar; actually points to the beginning of the string (char array), and thus that is the pointer to that string, so when you do like ptrChar[x] for example, you actually access the memory location x times after the beginning of the char (aka from where ptrChar is pointing to).

For some odd reason, the width and height of the button have been reset. You need to specify them in the ID selector as well:

#rock {
    width: 150px;
    height: 150px;
    background-image: url(http://th07.deviantart.net/fs70/150/i/2013/012/c/6/rock_01_png___by_alzstock-d5r84up.png);
    background-repeat: no-repeat;

Using psql to connect to PostgreSQL in SSL mode

psql below 9.2 does not accept this URL-like syntax for options.

The use of SSL can be driven by the sslmode=value option on the command line or the PGSSLMODE environment variable, but the default being prefer, SSL connections will be tried first automatically without specifying anything.

Example with a conninfo string (updated for psql 8.4)

psql "sslmode=require host=localhost dbname=test"

Read the manual page for more options.

creating array without declaring the size - java

You might be looking for a List? Either LinkedList or ArrayList are good classes to take a look at. You can then call toArray() to get the list as an array.

Get Hours and Minutes (HH:MM) from date

The following works on 2008R2+ to produce 'HH:MM':

select

when len(replace(replace(replace(right(cast(getdate() as varchar),7),'AM',''),'PM',''),' ','')) = 4
then '0'+ replace(replace(replace(right(cast(getdate() as varchar),7),'AM',''),'PM',''),' ','')
else replace(replace(replace(right(cast(getdate() as varchar),7),'AM',''),'PM',''),' ','') end as [Time]

Passing Parameters JavaFX FXML

You have to create one Context Class.

public class Context {
    private final static Context instance = new Context();
    public static Context getInstance() {
        return instance;
    }

    private Connection con;
    public void setConnection(Connection con)
    {
        this.con=con;
    }
    public Connection getConnection() {
        return con;
    }

    private TabRoughController tabRough;
    public void setTabRough(TabRoughController tabRough) {
        this.tabRough=tabRough;
    }

    public TabRoughController getTabRough() {
        return tabRough;
    }
}

You have to just set instance of controller in initialization using

Context.getInstance().setTabRough(this);

and you can use it from your whole application just using

TabRoughController cont=Context.getInstance().getTabRough();

Now you can pass parameter to any controller from whole application.

How to call an action after click() in Jquery?

setTimeout may help out here

$("#message_link").click(function(){
   setTimeout(function() {
       if (some_conditions...){
           $("#header").append("<div><img alt=\"Loader\"src=\"/images/ajax-loader.gif\"  /></div>");
       }
   }, 100);
});

That will cause the div to be appended ~100ms after the click event occurs, if some_conditions are met.

No provider for Router?

Nothing works from this tread. "forRoot" doesn't help.

Sorry. Sorted this out. I've managed to make it work by setting correct "routes" for this "forRoot" router setup routine

    import {RouterModule, Routes} from '@angular/router';
    import {AppComponent} from './app.component';

    const appRoutes: Routes = [
      {path: 'UI/part1/Details', component: DetailsComponent}
    ];

    @NgModule({
      declarations: [
        AppComponent,
        DetailsComponent
      ],
      imports: [
        BrowserModule,
        HttpClientModule,
        RouterModule.forRoot(appRoutes)
      ],
      providers: [DetailsService],
      bootstrap: [AppComponent]
    })

Also may be helpful (spent some time to realize this) Optional route part:

    const appRoutes: Routes = [
       {path: 'UI/part1/Details', component: DetailsComponent},
       {path: ':project/UI/part1/Details', component: DetailsComponent}
    ];

Second rule allows to open URLs like
hostname/test/UI/part1/Details?id=666
and
hostname/UI/part1/Details?id=666

How to POST using HTTPclient content type = application/x-www-form-urlencoded

I was using a .Net Core 2.1 API with the [FromBody] attribute and I had to use the following solution to successfully Post to it:

_apiClient =  new HttpClient();
_apiClient.BaseAddress = new Uri(<YOUR API>);
var MyObject myObject = new MyObject(){
    FirstName = "Me",
    LastName = "Myself"
};

var stringified = JsonConvert.SerializeObject(myObject);
var result = await _apiClient.PostAsync("api/appusers", new StringContent(stringified, Encoding.UTF8, "application/json"));

I could not access container IPs directly on Mac. I need to use localhost with port forwarding, e.g. if the port is 8000, then http://localhost:8000

Is there a conditional ternary operator in VB.NET?

Just for the record, here is the difference between If and IIf:

IIf(condition, true-part, false-part):

  • This is the old VB6/VBA Function
  • The function always returns an Object type, so if you want to use the methods or properties of the chosen object, you have to re-cast it with DirectCast or CType or the Convert.* Functions to its original type
  • Because of this, if true-part and false-part are of different types there is no matter, the result is just an object anyway

If(condition, true-part, false-part):

  • This is the new VB.NET Function
  • The result type is the type of the chosen part, true-part or false-part
  • This doesn't work, if Strict Mode is switched on and the two parts are of different types. In Strict Mode they have to be of the same type, otherwise you will get an Exception
  • If you really need to have two parts of different types, switch off Strict Mode (or use IIf)
  • I didn't try so far if Strict Mode allows objects of different type but inherited from the same base or implementing the same Interface. The Microsoft documentation isn't quite helpful about this issue. Maybe somebody here knows it.

What is output buffering?

The Output Control functions allow you to control when output is sent from the script. This can be useful in several different situations, especially if you need to send headers to the browser after your script has began outputting data. The Output Control functions do not affect headers sent using header() or setcookie(), only functions such as echo() and data between blocks of PHP code.

How do I catch a numpy warning like it's an exception (not just for testing)?

It seems that your configuration is using the print option for numpy.seterr:

>>> import numpy as np
>>> np.array([1])/0   #'warn' mode
__main__:1: RuntimeWarning: divide by zero encountered in divide
array([0])
>>> np.seterr(all='print')
{'over': 'warn', 'divide': 'warn', 'invalid': 'warn', 'under': 'ignore'}
>>> np.array([1])/0   #'print' mode
Warning: divide by zero encountered in divide
array([0])

This means that the warning you see is not a real warning, but it's just some characters printed to stdout(see the documentation for seterr). If you want to catch it you can:

  1. Use numpy.seterr(all='raise') which will directly raise the exception. This however changes the behaviour of all the operations, so it's a pretty big change in behaviour.
  2. Use numpy.seterr(all='warn'), which will transform the printed warning in a real warning and you'll be able to use the above solution to localize this change in behaviour.

Once you actually have a warning, you can use the warnings module to control how the warnings should be treated:

>>> import warnings
>>>
>>> warnings.filterwarnings('error')
>>>
>>> try:
...     warnings.warn(Warning())
... except Warning:
... print 'Warning was raised as an exception!'
...
Warning was raised as an exception!

Read carefully the documentation for filterwarnings since it allows you to filter only the warning you want and has other options. I'd also consider looking at catch_warnings which is a context manager which automatically resets the original filterwarnings function:

>>> import warnings
>>> with warnings.catch_warnings():
...     warnings.filterwarnings('error')
...     try:
...         warnings.warn(Warning())
...     except Warning: print 'Raised!'
...
Raised!
>>> try:
...     warnings.warn(Warning())
... except Warning: print 'Not raised!'
...
__main__:2: Warning:

How Can I Bypass the X-Frame-Options: SAMEORIGIN HTTP Header?

As for second question - you can use Fiddler filters to set response X-Frame-Options header manually to something like ALLOW-FROM *. But, of course, this trick will work only for you - other users still won't be able to see iframe content(if they not do the same).

View RDD contents in Python Spark?

If you want to see the contents of RDD then yes collect is one option, but it fetches all the data to driver so there can be a problem

<rdd.name>.take(<num of elements you want to fetch>)

Better if you want to see just a sample

Running foreach and trying to print, I dont recommend this because if you are running this on cluster then the print logs would be local to the executor and it would print for the data accessible to that executor. print statement is not changing the state hence it is not logically wrong. To get all the logs you will have to do something like

**Pseudocode**
collect
foreach print

But this may result in job failure as collecting all the data on driver may crash it. I would suggest using take command or if u want to analyze it then use sample collect on driver or write to file and then analyze it.

How to display a "busy" indicator with jQuery?

I did it in my project:

Global Events in application.js:

$(document).bind("ajaxSend", function(){
   $("#loading").show();
 }).bind("ajaxComplete", function(){
   $("#loading").hide();
 });

"loading" is the element to show and hide!

Is it possible to cast a Stream in Java 8?

Along the lines of ggovan's answer, I do this as follows:

/**
 * Provides various high-order functions.
 */
public final class F {
    /**
     * When the returned {@code Function} is passed as an argument to
     * {@link Stream#flatMap}, the result is a stream of instances of
     * {@code cls}.
     */
    public static <E> Function<Object, Stream<E>> instancesOf(Class<E> cls) {
        return o -> cls.isInstance(o)
                ? Stream.of(cls.cast(o))
                : Stream.empty();
    }
}

Using this helper function:

Stream.of(objects).flatMap(F.instancesOf(Client.class))
        .map(Client::getId)
        .forEach(System.out::println);

syntax error: unexpected token <

I was also having syntax error: unexpected token < while posting a form via ajax. Then I used curl to see what it returns:

curl -X POST --data "firstName=a&lastName=a&[email protected]&pass=aaaa&mobile=12345678901&nID=123456789123456789&age=22&prof=xfd" http://handymama.co/CustomerRegistration.php

I got something like this as a response:

<br />
<b>Warning</b>: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /home/handymama/public_html/CustomerRegistration.php:1) in <b>/home/handymama/public_html/CustomerRegistration.php</b> on line <b>3</b><br />

So all I had to do is just change the log level to only errors rather than warning.

SQL Server: Multiple table joins with a WHERE clause

You need to do a LEFT JOIN.

SELECT Computer.ComputerName, Application.Name, Software.Version
FROM Computer
JOIN dbo.Software_Computer
    ON Computer.ID = Software_Computer.ComputerID
LEFT JOIN dbo.Software
    ON Software_Computer.SoftwareID = Software.ID
RIGHT JOIN dbo.Application
    ON Application.ID = Software.ApplicationID
WHERE Computer.ID = 1

Here is the explanation:

The result of a left outer join (or simply left join) for table A and B always contains all records of the "left" table (A), even if the join-condition does not find any matching record in the "right" table (B). This means that if the ON clause matches 0 (zero) records in B, the join will still return a row in the result—but with NULL in each column from B. This means that a left outer join returns all the values from the left table, plus matched values from the right table (or NULL in case of no matching join predicate). If the right table returns one row and the left table returns more than one matching row for it, the values in the right table will be repeated for each distinct row on the left table. From Oracle 9i onwards the LEFT OUTER JOIN statement can be used as well as (+).

How can I change text color via keyboard shortcut in MS word 2010

Press Alt+H(h) and then you'll see the shortcuts on the toolbar, press FC to operate color menu and press A(Automatic) for black or browse through other colors using arrow keys.

How can I make all images of different height and width the same via CSS?

I was looking for a solution for this same problem, to create a list of logos.

I came up with this solution that uses a bit of flexbox, which works for us since we're not worried about old browsers.

This example assumes a 100x100px box but I'm pretty sure the size could be flexible/responsive.

.img__container {
    display: flex;
    padding: 15px 12px;
    box-sizing: border-box;
    width: 100px; height: 100px;

    img {
        margin: auto;
        max-width: 100%;
        max-height: 100%;
    }
}

ps.: you may need to add some prefixes or use autoprefixer.

How to display JavaScript variables in a HTML page without document.write

You could use jquery to get hold of the html element that you want to load the value with.

Say for instance if your page looks something like this,

<div id="FirstDiv">
  <div id="SecondDiv">
     ...
  </div>
 </div>

And if your javascript (I hope) looks something as simple as this,

function somefunction(){
  var somevalue = "Data to be inserted";
  $("#SecondDiv").text(somevalue);
}

I hope this is what you were looking for.

Why do you create a View in a database?

For security: Gives each user permission to access the database only through a small set of views that contain the specific data the user or group of users is authorized to see, restricting user access to other data.

Simplicity for queries and structure: A view can draw data from several tables and present a single table, simplifying the information and turning multi-table queries into single-table queries for a view and it give users a specific view of the database structure, presenting the database as a set of virtual tables specific to particular users or groups of users.

For create consistent database structure: Views present a consistent, unchanged image of the database structure, even if underlying source tables are changed.

How do I assign a null value to a variable in PowerShell?

These are automatic variables, like $null, $true, $false etc.

about_Automatic_Variables, see https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh847768.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396

$NULL
$null is an automatic variable that contains a NULL or empty value. You can use this variable to represent an absent or undefined value in commands and scripts.

Windows PowerShell treats $null as an object with a value, that is, as an explicit placeholder, so you can use $null to represent an empty value in a series of values.

For example, when $null is included in a collection, it is counted as one of the objects.

C:\PS> $a = ".dir", $null, ".pdf"
C:\PS> $a.count
3

If you pipe the $null variable to the ForEach-Object cmdlet, it generates a value for $null, just as it does for the other objects.

PS C:\ps-test> ".dir", $null, ".pdf" | Foreach {"Hello"}
Hello
Hello
Hello

As a result, you cannot use $null to mean "no parameter value." A parameter value of $null overrides the default parameter value.

However, because Windows PowerShell treats the $null variable as a placeholder, you can use it scripts like the following one, which would not work if $null were ignored.

$calendar = @($null, $null, “Meeting”, $null, $null, “Team Lunch”, $null)
$days = Sunday","Monday","Tuesday","Wednesday","Thursday","Friday","Saturday"
$currentDay = 0

foreach($day in $calendar)
{
    if($day –ne $null)
    {
        "Appointment on $($days[$currentDay]): $day"
    }

    $currentDay++
}

output:

Appointment on Tuesday: Meeting
Appointment on Friday: Team lunch

How do I define a method in Razor?

You can simply declare them as local functions in a razor block (i.e. @{}).

@{
    int Add(int x, int y)
    {
        return x + y;
    }
}

<div class="container">
    <p>
        @Add(2, 5)
    </p>
</div>

Forward host port to docker container

If MongoDB and RabbitMQ are running on the Host, then the port should already exposed as it is not within Docker.

You do not need the -p option in order to expose ports from container to host. By default, all port are exposed. The -p option allows you to expose a port from the container to the outside of the host.

So, my guess is that you do not need -p at all and it should be working fine :)

Git Clone: Just the files, please?

you can create a shallow clone to only get the last few revisions:

 git clone --depth 1 git://url

then either simply delete the .git directory or use git archive to export your tree.

Input text dialog Android

C++ code file extension? .cc vs .cpp

.C and .cc seem to be standard for the (few) Unix-oriented C++ programs I've seen. I've always used .cpp myself, since I only really work on Windows and that's been the standard there since like forever.

I recommend .cpp personally, because... it stands for "C Plus Plus". It is of course vitally important that file extensions are acronyms, but should this rationale prove insufficiently compelling other important things are non-use of the shift key (which rules out .C and .c++) and avoidance of regular expression metacharacters where possible (which rules out .c++ -- unfortunately you can't really avoid the . of course.).

This doesn't rule out .cc, so even though it doesn't really stand for anything (or does it?) it is probably a good choice for Linux-oriented code.

How to assign from a function which returns more than one value?

I somehow stumbled on this clever hack on the internet ... I'm not sure if it's nasty or beautiful, but it lets you create a "magical" operator that allows you to unpack multiple return values into their own variable. The := function is defined here, and included below for posterity:

':=' <- function(lhs, rhs) {
  frame <- parent.frame()
  lhs <- as.list(substitute(lhs))
  if (length(lhs) > 1)
    lhs <- lhs[-1]
  if (length(lhs) == 1) {
    do.call(`=`, list(lhs[[1]], rhs), envir=frame)
    return(invisible(NULL))
  }
  if (is.function(rhs) || is(rhs, 'formula'))
    rhs <- list(rhs)
  if (length(lhs) > length(rhs))
    rhs <- c(rhs, rep(list(NULL), length(lhs) - length(rhs)))
  for (i in 1:length(lhs))
    do.call(`=`, list(lhs[[i]], rhs[[i]]), envir=frame)
  return(invisible(NULL))
}

With that in hand, you can do what you're after:

functionReturningTwoValues <- function() {
  return(list(1, matrix(0, 2, 2)))
}
c(a, b) := functionReturningTwoValues()
a
#[1] 1
b
#     [,1] [,2]
# [1,]    0    0
# [2,]    0    0

I don't know how I feel about that. Perhaps you might find it helpful in your interactive workspace. Using it to build (re-)usable libraries (for mass consumption) might not be the best idea, but I guess that's up to you.

... you know what they say about responsibility and power ...

How to push objects in AngularJS between ngRepeat arrays

You'd be much better off using the same array with both lists, and creating angular filters to achieve your goal.

http://docs.angularjs.org/guide/dev_guide.templates.filters.creating_filters

Rough, untested code follows:

appModule.filter('checked', function() {
    return function(input, checked) {
        if(!input)return input;
        var output = []
        for (i in input){
            var item = input[i];
            if(item.checked == checked)output.push(item);
        }
        return output
    }
});

and the view (i added an "uncheck" button too)

<div id="AddItem">
     <h3>Add Item</h3>

    <input value="1" type="number" placeholder="1" ng-model="itemAmount">
    <input value="" type="text" placeholder="Name of Item" ng-model="itemName">
    <br/>
    <button ng-click="addItem()">Add to list</button>
</div>
<!-- begin: LIST OF CHECKED ITEMS -->
<div id="CheckedList">
     <h3>Checked Items: {{getTotalCheckedItems()}}</h3>

     <h4>Checked:</h4>

    <table>
        <tr ng-repeat="item in items | checked:true" class="item-checked">
            <td><b>amount:</b> {{item.amount}} -</td>
            <td><b>name:</b> {{item.name}} -</td>
            <td>
               <i>this item is checked!</i>
               <button ng-click="item.checked = false">uncheck item</button>

            </td>
        </tr>
    </table>
</div>
<!-- end: LIST OF CHECKED ITEMS -->
<!-- begin: LIST OF UNCHECKED ITEMS -->
<div id="UncheckedList">
     <h3>Unchecked Items: {{getTotalItems()}}</h3>

     <h4>Unchecked:</h4>

    <table>
        <tr ng-repeat="item in items | checked:false" class="item-unchecked">
            <td><b>amount:</b> {{item.amount}} -</td>
            <td><b>name:</b> {{item.name}} -</td>
            <td>
                <button ng-click="item.checked = true">check item</button>
            </td>
        </tr>
    </table>
</div>
<!-- end: LIST OF ITEMS -->

Then you dont need the toggle methods etc in your controller

How to add leading zeros for for-loop in shell?

I'm not interested in outputting it to the screen (that's what printf is mainly used for, right?) The variable $num is going to be used as a parameter for another program but let me see what I can do with this.

You can still use printf:

for num in {1..5}
do
   value=$(printf "%02d" $num)
   ... Use $value for your purposes

C#: Looping through lines of multiline string

Sometimes I think we can overcomplicate the solution just to avoid repeating one line of code. This is the reason I landed on this question in the first place.

After thinking about it for a bit I came to the conclusion that the simplest solution is to repeat the ReadLine before and inside the loop.

using (var stringReader = new StringReader(input))
{
    var line = await stringReader.ReadLineAsync();

    while (line != null)
    {
        // do something
        line = await stringReader.ReadLineAsync();
    }
}

I realize this might be considered to not follow the DRY principle, but I think it's worth considering given the simplicity.

Convert Unicode data to int in python

In python, integers and strings are immutable and are passed by value. You cannot pass a string, or integer, to a function and expect the argument to be modified.

So to convert string limit="100" to a number, you need to do

limit = int(limit) # will return new object (integer) and assign to "limit"

If you really want to go around it, you can use a list. Lists are mutable in python; when you pass a list, you pass it's reference, not copy. So you could do:

def int_in_place(mutable):
    mutable[0] = int(mutable[0])

mutable = ["1000"]
int_in_place(mutable)
# now mutable is a list with a single integer

But you should not need it really. (maybe sometimes when you work with recursions and need to pass some mutable state).

".addEventListener is not a function" why does this error occur?

document.getElementsByClassName returns an array of elements. so may be you want to target a specific index of them: var comment = document.getElementsByClassName('button')[0]; should get you what you want.

Update #1:

var comments = document.getElementsByClassName('button');
var numComments = comments.length;

function showComment() {
  var place = document.getElementById('textfield');
  var commentBox = document.createElement('textarea');
  place.appendChild(commentBox);
}

for (var i = 0; i < numComments; i++) {
  comments[i].addEventListener('click', showComment, false);
}

Update #2: (with removeEventListener incorporated as well)

var comments = document.getElementsByClassName('button');
var numComments = comments.length;

function showComment(e) {
  var place = document.getElementById('textfield');
  var commentBox = document.createElement('textarea');
  place.appendChild(commentBox);
  for (var i = 0; i < numComments; i++) {
    comments[i].removeEventListener('click', showComment, false);
  }
}

for (var i = 0; i < numComments; i++) {
  comments[i].addEventListener('click', showComment, false);
}

C-like structures in Python

The following solution to a struct is inspired by the namedtuple implementation and some of the previous answers. However, unlike the namedtuple it is mutable, in it's values, but like the c-style struct immutable in the names/attributes, which a normal class or dict isn't.

_class_template = """\
class {typename}:
def __init__(self, *args, **kwargs):
    fields = {field_names!r}

    for x in fields:
        setattr(self, x, None)

    for name, value in zip(fields, args):
        setattr(self, name, value)

    for name, value in kwargs.items():
        setattr(self, name, value)

def __repr__(self):
    return str(vars(self))

def __setattr__(self, name, value):
    if name not in {field_names!r}:
        raise KeyError("invalid name: %s" % name)
    object.__setattr__(self, name, value)
"""

def struct(typename, field_names):

    class_definition = _class_template.format(
        typename = typename,
        field_names = field_names)

    namespace = dict(__name__='struct_%s' % typename)
    exec(class_definition, namespace)
    result = namespace[typename]
    result._source = class_definition

    return result

Usage:

Person = struct('Person', ['firstname','lastname'])
generic = Person()
michael = Person('Michael')
jones = Person(lastname = 'Jones')

In [168]: michael.middlename = 'ben'
Traceback (most recent call last):

  File "<ipython-input-168-b31c393c0d67>", line 1, in <module>
michael.middlename = 'ben'

  File "<string>", line 19, in __setattr__

KeyError: 'invalid name: middlename'

Do you use source control for your database items?

I have used RedGate SQL Compare Pro for schema synchronization with script folder, then I commit all my update to version control. It works great.

How do I build an import library (.lib) AND a DLL in Visual C++?

Does your DLL project have any actual exports? If there are no exports, the linker will not generate an import library .lib file.

In the non-Express version of VS, the import libray name is specfied in the project settings here:

Configuration Properties/Linker/Advanced/Import Library

I assume it's the same in Express (if it even provides the ability to configure the name).

matrix multiplication algorithm time complexity

The standard way of multiplying an m-by-n matrix by an n-by-p matrix has complexity O(mnp). If all of those are "n" to you, it's O(n^3), not O(n^2). EDIT: it will not be O(n^2) in the general case. But there are faster algorithms for particular types of matrices -- if you know more you may be able to do better.

How to split() a delimited string to a List<String>

Either use:

List<string> list = new List<string>(array);

Or change your code to not rely on the specific implementation:

IList<string> list = array; // string[] implements IList<string>

How do I compare two strings in Perl?

The obvious subtext of this question is:

why can't you just use == to check if two strings are the same?

Perl doesn't have distinct data types for text vs. numbers. They are both represented by the type "scalar". Put another way, strings are numbers if you use them as such.

if ( 4 == "4" ) { print "true"; } else { print "false"; }
true

if ( "4" == "4.0" ) { print "true"; } else { print "false"; }
true

print "3"+4
7

Since text and numbers aren't differentiated by the language, we can't simply overload the == operator to do the right thing for both cases. Therefore, Perl provides eq to compare values as text:

if ( "4" eq "4.0" ) { print "true"; } else { print "false"; }
false

if ( "4.0" eq "4.0" ) { print "true"; } else { print "false"; }
true

In short:

  • Perl doesn't have a data-type exclusively for text strings
  • use == or !=, to compare two operands as numbers
  • use eq or ne, to compare two operands as text

There are many other functions and operators that can be used to compare scalar values, but knowing the distinction between these two forms is an important first step.

Read environment variables in Node.js

You can use env package to manage your environment variables per project:

  • Create a .env file under the project directory and put all of your variables there.
  • Add this line in the top of your application entry file:

Done. Now you can access your environment variables with process.env.ENV_NAME.

How to replace part of string by position?

All others answers don't work if the string contains Unicode char (like Emojis) because an Unicode char weight more bytes than a char.

Example : the emoji '' converted to bytes, will weight the equivalent of 2 chars. So, if the unicode char is placed at the beginning of your string, offset parameter will be shifted).

With this topic, i extend the StringInfo class to Replace by position keeping the Nick Miller's algorithm to avoid that :

public static class StringInfoUtils
{
    public static string ReplaceByPosition(this string str, string replaceBy, int offset, int count)
    {
        return new StringInfo(str).ReplaceByPosition(replaceBy, offset, count).String;
    }

    public static StringInfo ReplaceByPosition(this StringInfo str, string replaceBy, int offset, int count)
    {
        return str.RemoveByTextElements(offset, count).InsertByTextElements(offset, replaceBy);
    }

    public static StringInfo RemoveByTextElements(this StringInfo str, int offset, int count)
    {
        return new StringInfo(string.Concat(
