[r] How to assign from a function which returns more than one value?

Lists seem perfect for this purpose. For example within the function you would have

x = desired_return_value_1 # (vector, matrix, etc)

y = desired_return_value_2 # (vector, matrix, etc)

returnlist = list(x,y...)

}  # end of function

main program

x = returnlist[[1]]

y = returnlist[[2]]
