PHPDoc type hinting for array of objects?

<?php foreach($this->models as /** @var Model_Object_WheelModel */ $model): ?>
    <?php
    // Type hinting now works:
    $model->getImage();
    ?>
<?php endforeach; ?>

How do I break out of a loop in Scala?

It is never a good idea to break out of a for-loop. If you are using a for-loop it means that you know how many times you want to iterate. Use a while-loop with 2 conditions.

for example

var done = false
while (i <= length && !done) {
  if (sum > 1000) {
     done = true
  }
}

How to Execute stored procedure from SQL Plus?

You forgot to put z as an bind variable.

The following EXECUTE command runs a PL/SQL statement that references a stored procedure:

SQL> EXECUTE -
> :Z := EMP_SALE.HIRE('JACK','MANAGER','JONES',2990,'SALES')

Note that the value returned by the stored procedure is being return into :Z

How to overlay image with color in CSS?

You should use rgba for overlaying your element with photos.rgba is a way to declare a color in CSS that includes alpha transparency support. you can use .row as an overlayer like this:

#header {
    background: url(../img/bg.jpg) 0 0 no-repeat fixed;
    height: 100%;
    overflow: hidden;
    color: #FFFFFF
 }

.row{
    background: rgba(39,62,84,0.82);
    overflow: hidden;
    height: 100%;
    z-index: 2;
}

Using Notepad++ to validate XML against an XSD

  1. In Notepad++ go to Plugins > Plugin manager > Show Plugin Manager then find Xml Tools plugin. Tick the box and click Install

    enter image description here

  2. Open XML document you want to validate and click Ctrl+Shift+Alt+M (Or use Menu if this is your preference Plugins > XML Tools > Validate Now).
    Following dialog will open: enter image description here

  3. Click on .... Point to XSD file and I am pretty sure you'll be able to handle things from here.

Hope this saves you some time.

EDIT: Plugin manager was not included in some versions of Notepad++ because many users didn't like commercials that it used to show. If you want to keep an older version, however still want plugin manager, you can get it on github, and install it by extracting the archive and copying contents to plugins and updates folder.
In version 7.7.1 plugin manager is back under a different guise... Plugin Admin so now you can simply update notepad++ and have it back.

Disable Enable Trigger SQL server for a table

As Mark mentioned, the previous statement should be ended in semi-colon. So you can use:

; DISABLE TRIGGER dbo.tr_name ON dbo.table_name

XPath to return only elements containing the text, and not its parents

Do you want to find elements that contain "match", or that equal "match"?

This will find elements that have text nodes that equal 'match' (matches none of the elements because of leading and trailing whitespace in random2):

//*[text()='match']

This will find all elements that have text nodes that equal "match", after removing leading and trailing whitespace(matches random2):

//*[normalize-space(text())='match']

This will find all elements that contain 'match' in the text node value (matches random2 and random3):

//*[contains(text(),'match')]

This XPATH 2.0 solution uses the matches() function and a regex pattern that looks for text nodes that contain 'match' and begin at the start of the string(i.e. ^) or a word boundary (i.e. \W) and terminated by the end of the string (i.e. $) or a word boundary. The third parameter i evaluates the regex pattern case-insensitive. (matches random2)

//*[matches(text(),'(^|\W)match($|\W)','i')]

Is there a conditional ternary operator in VB.NET?

If() is the closest equivalent but beware of implicit conversions going on if you have set "Option Strict off"

For example, if your not careful you may be tempted to try something like:

Dim foo As Integer? = If(someTrueExpression, Nothing, 2)

Will give "foo" a value of 0!

I think the '?' operator equivalent in C# would instead fail compilation

No module named 'pymysql'

I tried installing pymysql on command prompt by typing

pip install pymysql

But it still dont work on my case, so I decided to try using the terminal IDE and it works.

Origin null is not allowed by Access-Control-Allow-Origin

Origin null is the local file system, so that suggests that you're loading the HTML page that does the load call via a file:/// URL (e.g., just double-clicking it in a local file browser or similar). Different browsers take different approaches to applying the Same Origin Policy to local files.

My guess is that you're seeing this using Chrome. Chrome's rules for applying the SOP to local files are very tight, it disallows even loading files from the same directory as the document. So does Opera. Some other browsers, such as Firefox, allow limited access to local files. But basically, using ajax with local resources isn't going to work cross-browser.

If you're just testing something locally that you'll really be deploying to the web, rather than use local files, install a simple web server and test via http:// URLs instead. That gives you a much more accurate security picture.

How to read the output from git diff?

It's unclear from your question which part of the diffs you find confusing: the actually diff, or the extra header information git prints. Just in case, here's a quick overview of the header.

The first line is something like diff --git a/path/to/file b/path/to/file - obviously it's just telling you what file this section of the diff is for. If you set the boolean config variable diff.mnemonic prefix, the a and b will be changed to more descriptive letters like c and w (commit and work tree).

Next, there are "mode lines" - lines giving you a description of any changes that don't involve changing the content of the file. This includes new/deleted files, renamed/copied files, and permissions changes.

Finally, there's a line like index 789bd4..0afb621 100644. You'll probably never care about it, but those 6-digit hex numbers are the abbreviated SHA1 hashes of the old and new blobs for this file (a blob is a git object storing raw data like a file's contents). And of course, the 100644 is the file's mode - the last three digits are obviously permissions; the first three give extra file metadata information (SO post describing that).

After that, you're on to standard unified diff output (just like the classic diff -U). It's split up into hunks - a hunk is a section of the file containing changes and their context. Each hunk is preceded by a pair of --- and +++ lines denoting the file in question, then the actual diff is (by default) three lines of context on either side of the - and + lines showing the removed/added lines.

if, elif, else statement issues in Bash

There is a space missing between elif and [:

elif[ "$seconds" -gt 0 ]

should be

elif [ "$seconds" -gt 0 ]

As I see this question is getting a lot of views, it is important to indicate that the syntax to follow is:

if [ conditions ]
# ^ ^          ^

meaning that spaces are needed around the brackets. Otherwise, it won't work. This is because [ itself is a command.

The reason why you are not seeing something like elif[: command not found (or similar) is that after seeing if and then, the shell is looking for either elif, else, or fi. However it finds another then (after the mis-formatted elif[). Only after having parsed the statement it would be executed (and an error message like elif[: command not found would be output).

Asyncio.gather vs asyncio.wait

Although similar in general cases ("run and get results for many tasks"), each function has some specific functionality for other cases:

asyncio.gather()

Returns a Future instance, allowing high level grouping of tasks:

import asyncio
from pprint import pprint

import random

async def coro(tag):
    print(">", tag)
    await asyncio.sleep(random.uniform(1, 3))
    print("<", tag)
    return tag

loop = asyncio.get_event_loop()

group1 = asyncio.gather(*[coro("group 1.{}".format(i)) for i in range(1, 6)])
group2 = asyncio.gather(*[coro("group 2.{}".format(i)) for i in range(1, 4)])
group3 = asyncio.gather(*[coro("group 3.{}".format(i)) for i in range(1, 10)])

all_groups = asyncio.gather(group1, group2, group3)

results = loop.run_until_complete(all_groups)

loop.close()

pprint(results)

All tasks in a group can be cancelled by calling group2.cancel() or even all_groups.cancel(). See also .gather(..., return_exceptions=True),

asyncio.wait()

Supports waiting to be stopped after the first task is done, or after a specified timeout, allowing lower level precision of operations:

import asyncio
import random

async def coro(tag):
    print(">", tag)
    await asyncio.sleep(random.uniform(0.5, 5))
    print("<", tag)
    return tag

loop = asyncio.get_event_loop()

tasks = [coro(i) for i in range(1, 11)]

print("Get first result:")
finished, unfinished = loop.run_until_complete(
    asyncio.wait(tasks, return_when=asyncio.FIRST_COMPLETED))

for task in finished:
    print(task.result())
print("unfinished:", len(unfinished))

print("Get more results in 2 seconds:")
finished2, unfinished2 = loop.run_until_complete(
    asyncio.wait(unfinished, timeout=2))

for task in finished2:
    print(task.result())
print("unfinished2:", len(unfinished2))

print("Get all other results:")
finished3, unfinished3 = loop.run_until_complete(asyncio.wait(unfinished2))

for task in finished3:
    print(task.result())

loop.close()

String length in bytes in JavaScript

This would work for BMP and SIP/SMP characters.

    String.prototype.lengthInUtf8 = function() {
        var asciiLength = this.match(/[\u0000-\u007f]/g) ? this.match(/[\u0000-\u007f]/g).length : 0;
        var multiByteLength = encodeURI(this.replace(/[\u0000-\u007f]/g)).match(/%/g) ? encodeURI(this.replace(/[\u0000-\u007f]/g, '')).match(/%/g).length : 0;
        return asciiLength + multiByteLength;
    }

    'test'.lengthInUtf8();
    // returns 4
    '\u{2f894}'.lengthInUtf8();
    // returns 4
    '???? ?????'.lengthInUtf8();
    // returns 19, each Arabic/Persian alphabet character takes 2 bytes.
    '??,JavaScript ??'.lengthInUtf8();
    // returns 26, each Chinese character/punctuation takes 3 bytes.

Awaiting multiple Tasks with different results

Forward Warning

Just a quick headsup to those visiting this and other similar threads looking for a way to parallelize EntityFramework using async+await+task tool-set: The pattern shown here is sound, however, when it comes to the special snowflake of EF you will not achieve parallel execution unless and until you use a separate (new) db-context-instance inside each and every *Async() call involved.

This sort of thing is necessary due to inherent design limitations of ef-db-contexts which forbid running multiple queries in parallel in the same ef-db-context instance.

Capitalizing on the answers already given, this is the way to make sure that you collect all values even in the case that one or more of the tasks results in an exception:

  public async Task<string> Foobar() {
    async Task<string> Awaited(Task<Cat> a, Task<House> b, Task<Tesla> c) {
        return DoSomething(await a, await b, await c);
    }

    using (var carTask = BuyCarAsync())
    using (var catTask = FeedCatAsync())
    using (var houseTask = SellHouseAsync())
    {
        if (carTask.Status == TaskStatus.RanToCompletion //triple
            && catTask.Status == TaskStatus.RanToCompletion //cache
            && houseTask.Status == TaskStatus.RanToCompletion) { //hits
            return Task.FromResult(DoSomething(catTask.Result, carTask.Result, houseTask.Result)); //fast-track
        }

        cat = await catTask;
        car = await carTask;
        house = await houseTask;
        //or Task.AwaitAll(carTask, catTask, houseTask);
        //or await Task.WhenAll(carTask, catTask, houseTask);
        //it depends on how you like exception handling better

        return Awaited(catTask, carTask, houseTask);
   }
 }

An alternative implementation that has more or less the same performance characteristics could be:

 public async Task<string> Foobar() {
    using (var carTask = BuyCarAsync())
    using (var catTask = FeedCatAsync())
    using (var houseTask = SellHouseAsync())
    {
        cat = catTask.Status == TaskStatus.RanToCompletion ? catTask.Result : (await catTask);
        car = carTask.Status == TaskStatus.RanToCompletion ? carTask.Result : (await carTask);
        house = houseTask.Status == TaskStatus.RanToCompletion ? houseTask.Result : (await houseTask);

        return DoSomething(cat, car, house);
     }
 }

How to export DataTable to Excel

One way of doing it would be also with ACE OLEDB Provider (see also connection strings for Excel). Of course you'd have to have the provider installed and registered. You should have it, if you have Excel installed, but this is something you have to consider when deploying the app.

This is the example of calling the helper method from ExportHelper: ExportHelper.CreateXlsFromDataTable(myDataTable, @"C:\tmp\export.xls");

The helper for exporting to Excel file using ACE OLEDB:

public class ExportHelper
{
    private const string ExcelOleDbConnectionStringTemplate = "Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;Data Source={0};Extended Properties=\"Excel 8.0;HDR=YES\";";

    /// <summary>
    /// Creates the Excel file from items in DataTable and writes them to specified output file.
    /// </summary>
    public static void CreateXlsFromDataTable(DataTable dataTable, string fullFilePath)
    {
        string createTableWithHeaderScript = GenerateCreateTableCommand(dataTable);

        using (var conn = new OleDbConnection(String.Format(ExcelOleDbConnectionStringTemplate, fullFilePath)))
        {
            if (conn.State != ConnectionState.Open)
            {
                conn.Open();
            }

            OleDbCommand cmd = new OleDbCommand(createTableWithHeaderScript, conn);
            cmd.ExecuteNonQuery();

            foreach (DataRow dataExportRow in dataTable.Rows)
            {

How to download/upload files from/to SharePoint 2013 using CSOM?

Just a suggestion SharePoint 2013 online & on-prem file encoding is UTF-8 BOM. Make sure your file is UTF-8 BOM, otherwise your uploaded html and scripts may not rendered correctly in browser.

How to render pdfs using C#

There are a few other choices in case the Adobe ActiveX isn't what you're looking for (since Acrobat must be present on the user machine and you can't ship it yourself).

For creating the PDF preview, first have a look at some other discussions on the subject on StackOverflow:

In the last two I talk about a few things you can try:

  • You can get a commercial renderer (PDFViewForNet, PDFRasterizer.NET, ABCPDF, ActivePDF, XpdfRasterizer and others in the other answers...).
    Most are fairly expensive though, especially if all you care about is making a simple preview/thumbnails.

  • In addition to Omar Shahine's code snippet, there is a CodeProject article that shows how to use the Adobe ActiveX, but it may be out of date, easily broken by new releases and its legality is murky (basically it's ok for internal use but you can't ship it and you can't use it on a server to produce images of PDF).

  • You could have a look at the source code for SumatraPDF, an OpenSource PDF viewer for windows.

  • There is also Poppler, a rendering engine that uses Xpdf as a rendering engine. All of these are great but they will require a fair amount of commitment to make make them work and interface with .Net and they tend to be be distributed under the GPL.

  • You may want to consider using GhostScript as an interpreter because rendering pages is a fairly simple process.
    The drawback is that you will need to either re-package it to install it with your app, or make it a pre-requisite (or at least a part of your install process).
    It's not a big challenge, and it's certainly easier than having to massage the other rendering engines into cooperating with .Net.
    I did a small project that you will find on the Developer Express forums as an attachment.
    Be careful of the license requirements for GhostScript through.
    If you can't leave with that then commercial software is probably your only choice.

OK, a single select wil by default use "Read Committed" transaction isolation which locks and therefore stops writes to that set. You can change the transaction isolation level with

Set Transaction Isolation Level { Read Uncommitted | Read Committed | Repeatable Read | Serializable }
Begin Tran
  Select ...
Commit Tran

These are explained in detail in SQL Server BOL

Your next problem is that by default SQL Server 2K5 will escalate the locks if you have more than ~2500 locks or use more than 40% of 'normal' memory in the lock transaction. The escalation goes to page, then table lock

You can switch this escalation off by setting "trace flag" 1211t, see BOL for more information

How to use the 'main' parameter in package.json?

For OpenShift, you only get one PORT and IP pair to bind to (per application). It sounds like you should be able to serve both services from a single nodejs instance by adding internal routes for each service endpoint.

I have some info on how OpenShift uses your project's package.json to start your application here: https://www.openshift.com/blogs/run-your-nodejs-projects-on-openshift-in-two-simple-steps#package_json

Exploitable PHP functions

Plattform-specific, but also theoretical exec vectors:

  • dotnet_load()
  • new COM("WScript.Shell")
  • new Java("java.lang.Runtime")
  • event_new() - very eventually

And there are many more disguising methods:

  • proc_open is an alias for popen
  • call_user_func_array("exE".chr(99), array("/usr/bin/damage", "--all"));
  • file_put_contents("/cgi-bin/nextinvocation.cgi") && chmod(...)
  • PharData::setDefaultStub - some more work to examine code in .phar files
  • runkit_function_rename("exec", "innocent_name") or APD rename_function

How do I clear the content of a div using JavaScript?

Just Javascript (as requested)

Add this function somewhere on your page (preferably in the <head>)

function clearBox(elementID)
{
    document.getElementById(elementID).innerHTML = "";
}

Then add the button on click event:

<button onclick="clearBox('cart_item')" />

In JQuery (for reference)

If you prefer JQuery you could do:

$("#cart_item").html("");

How to define a preprocessor symbol in Xcode

You don't need to create a user-defined setting. The built-in setting "Preprocessor Macros" works just fine. alt text http://idisk.mac.com/cdespinosa/Public/Picture%204.png

If you have multiple targets or projects that use the same prefix file, use Preprocessor Macros Not Used In Precompiled Headers instead, so differences in your macro definition don't trigger an unnecessary extra set of precompiled headers.

How to uncheck checked radio button

Radio buttons are meant to be required options... If you want them to be unchecked, use a checkbox, there is no need to complicate things and allow users to uncheck a radio button; removing the JQuery allows you to select from one of them

What do I do when my program crashes with exception 0xc0000005 at address 0?

Problems with the stack frames could indicate stack corruption (a truely horrible beast), optimisation, or mixing frameworks such as C/C++/C#/Delphi and other craziness as that - there is no absolute standard with respect to stack frames. (Some languages do not even have them!).

So, I suggest getting slightly annoyed with the stack frame issues, ignoring it, and then just use Remy's answer.

SQL RANK() versus ROW_NUMBER()

Look this example.

CREATE TABLE [dbo].#TestTable(
    [id] [int] NOT NULL,
    [create_date] [date] NOT NULL,
    [info1] [varchar](50) NOT NULL,
    [info2] [varchar](50) NOT NULL,
)

Insert some data

INSERT INTO dbo.#TestTable (id, create_date, info1, info2)
VALUES (1, '1/1/09', 'Blue', 'Green')
INSERT INTO dbo.#TestTable (id, create_date, info1, info2)
VALUES (1, '1/2/09', 'Red', 'Yellow')
INSERT INTO dbo.#TestTable (id, create_date, info1, info2)

INSERT INTO dbo.#TestTable (id, create_date, info1, info2)
VALUES (3, '1/2/09', 'Green', 'Purple')
INSERT INTO dbo.#TestTable (id, create_date, info1, info2)

Repeat same Values for 1

INSERT INTO dbo.#TestTable (id, create_date, info1, info2) VALUES (1, '1/1/09', 'Blue', 'Green')

Look All

SELECT * FROM #TestTable

Look your results

SELECT Id,

Vba macro to copy row from table if value in table meets condition

you are describing a Problem, which I would try to solve with the VLOOKUP function rather than using VBA.

You should always consider a non-vba solution first.

Here are some application examples of VLOOKUP (or SVERWEIS in German, as i know it):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RCLUM0UMLXo

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/excel-help/vlookup-HP005209335.aspx

If you have to make it as a macro, you could use VLOOKUP as an application function - a quick solution with slow performance - or you will have to make a simillar function yourself.

If it has to be the latter, then there is need for more details on your specification, regarding performance questions.

You could copy any range to an array, loop through this array and check for your value, then copy this value to any other range. This is how i would solve this as a vba-function.

This would look something like that:

Public Sub CopyFilter()

  Dim wks As Worksheet
  Dim avarTemp() As Variant
  'go through each worksheet
  For Each wks In ThisWorkbook.Worksheets
        avarTemp = wks.UsedRange
        For i = LBound(avarTemp, 1) To UBound(avarTemp, 1)
          'check in the first column in each row
          If avarTemp(i, LBound(avarTemp, 2)) = "XYZ" Then
            'copy cell
             targetWks.Cells(1, 1) = avarTemp(i, LBound(avarTemp, 2))
          End If
        Next i
  Next wks
End Sub

Ok, now i have something nice which could come in handy for myself:

Public Function FILTER(ByRef rng As Range, ByRef lngIndex As Long) As Variant
  Dim avarTemp() As Variant
  Dim avarResult() As Variant
  Dim i As Long
  avarTemp = rng

  ReDim avarResult(0)

  For i = LBound(avarTemp, 1) To UBound(avarTemp, 1)
      If avarTemp(i, 1) = "active" Then
        avarResult(UBound(avarResult)) = avarTemp(i, lngIndex)
        'expand our result array
        ReDim Preserve avarResult(UBound(avarResult) + 1)
      End If
  Next i

  FILTER = avarResult
End Function

You can use it in your Worksheet like this =FILTER(Tabelle1!A:C;2) or with =INDEX(FILTER(Tabelle1!A:C;2);3) to specify the result row. I am sure someone could extend this to include the index functionality into FILTER or knows how to return a range like object - maybe I could too, but not today ;)

jQuery ID starts with

Here you go:

$('td[id^="' + value +'"]')

How to increase the clickable area of a <a> tag button?

For me the padding solution wasn't good, as I was using border on the button, and would've been hard to put modify the markup to create an overlay for the touch area.

So what I did, is I just used the :before pseudo tag, and created an overlay, which was perfect in my case, as the click event propagated the same way.

button.my-button:before {
    content: '';
    position: absolute;
    width: 26px;
    height: 26px;
    top: -6px;
    left: -5px;
}

Improve SQL Server query performance on large tables

How is this possible? Without an index on the er101_upd_date_iso column how can a clustered index scan be used?

An index is a B-Tree where each leaf node is pointing to a 'bunch of rows'(called a 'Page' in SQL internal terminology), That is when the index is a non-clustered index.

Clustered index is a special case, in which the leaf nodes has the 'bunch of rows' (rather than pointing to them). that is why...

1) There can be only one clustered index on the table.

this also means the whole table is stored as the clustered index, that is why you started seeing index scan rather than a table scan.

2) An operation that utilizes clustered index is generally faster than a non-clustered index

Read more at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms177443.aspx

For the problem you have, you should really consider adding this column to a index, as you said adding a new index (or a column to an existing index) increases INSERT/UPDATE costs. But it might be possible to remove some underutilized index (or a column from an existing index) to replace with 'er101_upd_date_iso'.

If index changes are not possible, i recommend adding a statistics on the column, it can fasten things up when the columns have some correlation with indexed columns

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms188038.aspx

BTW, You will get much more help if you can post the table schema of ER101_ACCT_ORDER_DTL. and the existing indices too..., probably the query could be re-written to use some of them.

Can I use multiple versions of jQuery on the same page?

Yes, it's doable due to jQuery's noconflict mode. http://blog.nemikor.com/2009/10/03/using-multiple-versions-of-jquery/

<!-- load jQuery 1.1.3 -->
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://example.com/jquery-1.1.3.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
var jQuery_1_1_3 = $.noConflict(true);
</script>

<!-- load jQuery 1.3.2 -->
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://example.com/jquery-1.3.2.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
var jQuery_1_3_2 = $.noConflict(true);
</script>

Then, instead of $('#selector').function();, you'd do jQuery_1_3_2('#selector').function(); or jQuery_1_1_3('#selector').function();.

How to do the equivalent of pass by reference for primitives in Java

You have several choices. The one that makes the most sense really depends on what you're trying to do.

Choice 1: make toyNumber a public member variable in a class

class MyToy {
  public int toyNumber;
}

then pass a reference to a MyToy to your method.

void play(MyToy toy){
    System.out.println("Toy number in play " + toy.toyNumber);
    toy.toyNumber++;
    System.out.println("Toy number in play after increement " + toy.toyNumber);
}

Choice 2: return the value instead of pass by reference

int play(int toyNumber){
    System.out.println("Toy number in play " + toyNumber);
    toyNumber++;
    System.out.println("Toy number in play after increement " + toyNumber);
    return toyNumber
}

This choice would require a small change to the callsite in main so that it reads, toyNumber = temp.play(toyNumber);.

Choice 3: make it a class or static variable

If the two functions are methods on the same class or class instance, you could convert toyNumber into a class member variable.

Choice 4: Create a single element array of type int and pass that

This is considered a hack, but is sometimes employed to return values from inline class invocations.

void play(int [] toyNumber){
    System.out.println("Toy number in play " + toyNumber[0]);
    toyNumber[0]++;
    System.out.println("Toy number in play after increement " + toyNumber[0]);
}

Only Add Unique Item To List

If your requirements are to have no duplicates, you should be using a HashSet.

HashSet.Add will return false when the item already exists (if that even matters to you).

You can use the constructor that @pstrjds links to below (or here) to define the equality operator or you'll need to implement the equality methods in RemoteDevice (GetHashCode & Equals).

How to post SOAP Request from PHP

I needed to do many very simple XML requests and after reading @Ivan Krechetov's comment about the speed hit of SOAP, I tried his code and discovered http_post_data() is not built into PHP 5.2. Not really wanting to install it, I tried cURL which is on all my servers. Although I do not know how fast cURL is compared to SOAP, it sure was easy to do what I needed. Below is a sample with cURL for anyone needing it.

$xml_data = '<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
<priceRequest><customerNo>123</customerNo><password>abc</password><skuList><SKU>99999</SKU><lineNumber>1</lineNumber></skuList></priceRequest>';
$URL = "https://test.testserver.com/PriceAvailability";

$ch = curl_init($URL);
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_HTTPHEADER, array('Content-Type: text/xml'));
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_POST, 1);
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_POSTFIELDS, "$xml_data");
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, 1);
$output = curl_exec($ch);
curl_close($ch);

print_r($output);

Returning Promises from Vuex actions

Just for an information on a closed topic: you don’t have to create a promise, axios returns one itself:

Ref: https://forum.vuejs.org/t/how-to-resolve-a-promise-object-in-a-vuex-action-and-redirect-to-another-route/18254/4

Example:

    export const loginForm = ({ commit }, data) => {
      return axios
        .post('http://localhost:8000/api/login', data)
        .then((response) => {
          commit('logUserIn', response.data);
        })
        .catch((error) => {
          commit('unAuthorisedUser', { error:error.response.data });
        })
    }

Another example:

    addEmployee({ commit, state }) {
      return insertEmployee(state.employee)
        .then(result => {
          commit('setEmployee', result.data);
          return result.data; // resolve
        })
        .catch(err => {
          throw err.response.data; // reject
        })
    }

Another example with async-await

    async getUser({ commit }) {
        try {
            const currentUser = await axios.get('/user/current')
            commit('setUser', currentUser)
            return currentUser
        } catch (err) {
            commit('setUser', null)
            throw 'Unable to fetch current user'
        }
    },

JavaScript variable assignments from tuples

Here is a simple Javascript Tuple implementation:

var Tuple = (function () {
   function Tuple(Item1, Item2) {
      var item1 = Item1;
      var item2 = Item2;
      Object.defineProperty(this, "Item1", {
          get: function() { return item1  }
      });
      Object.defineProperty(this, "Item2", {
          get: function() { return item2  }
      });
   }
   return Tuple;
})();

var tuple = new Tuple("Bob", 25); // Instantiation of a new Tuple
var name = tuple.Item1; // Assignment. name will be "Bob"
tuple.Item1 = "Kirk"; // Will not set it. It's immutable.

This is a 2-tuple, however, you could modify my example to support 3,4,5,6 etc. tuples.

Importing Pandas gives error AttributeError: module 'pandas' has no attribute 'core' in iPython Notebook

"Have you tried turning it off and on again?" (Roy of The IT crowd)

This happened to me today, which is why I ended up to this page. Seeing that error was weird since, recently, I have not made any changes in my Python environment. Interestingly, I observed that if I open a new notebook and import pandas I would not get the same error message. So, I did shutdown the troublesome notebook and started it again and voila it is working again!

Even though this solved the problem (at least for me), I cannot readily come up with an explanation as to why it happened in the first place!

Maximum on http header values?

HTTP does not place a predefined limit on the length of each header field or on the length of the header section as a whole, as described in Section 2.5. Various ad hoc limitations on individual header field length are found in practice, often depending on the specific field semantics.

HTTP Header values are restricted by server implementations. Http specification doesn't restrict header size.

A server that receives a request header field, or set of fields, larger than it wishes to process MUST respond with an appropriate 4xx (Client Error) status code. Ignoring such header fields would increase the server's vulnerability to request smuggling attacks (Section 9.5).

Most servers will return 413 Entity Too Large or appropriate 4xx error when this happens.

A client MAY discard or truncate received header fields that are larger than the client wishes to process if the field semantics are such that the dropped value(s) can be safely ignored without changing the message framing or response semantics.

Uncapped HTTP header size keeps the server exposed to attacks and can bring down its capacity to serve organic traffic.

Git Pull is Not Possible, Unmerged Files

There is a solution even if you don't want to remove your local changes. Just fix the unmerged files (by git add or git remove). Then do git pull.

Error: Unfortunately you can't have non-Gradle Java modules and > Android-Gradle modules in one project

Follow these steps :

1-Command+Shift+F

2-Type : modules.xml

4-Remove those you get error for (the module when you get error once building project)

Good luck :)

How do I make case-insensitive queries on Mongodb?

  1. With Mongoose (and Node), this worked:

    • User.find({ email: /^[email protected]$/i })

    • User.find({ email: new RegExp(`^${emailVariable}$`, 'i') })

  2. In MongoDB, this worked:

Both lines are case-insensitive. The email in the DB could be [email protected] and both lines will still find the object in the DB.

Likewise, we could use /^[email protected]$/i and it would still find email: [email protected] in the DB.

C++ delete vector, objects, free memory

There are two separate things here:

  1. object lifetime
  2. storage duration

For example:

{
    vector<MyObject> v;
    // do some stuff, push some objects onto v
    v.clear(); // 1
    // maybe do some more stuff
} // 2

At 1, you clear v: this destroys all the objects it was storing. Each gets its destructor called, if your wrote one, and anything owned by that MyObject is now released. However, vector v has the right to keep the raw storage around in case you want it later.

If you decide to push some more things into it between 1 and 2, this saves time as it can reuse the old memory.

At 2, the vector v goes out of scope: any objects you pushed into it since 1 will be destroyed (as if you'd explicitly called clear again), but now the underlying storage is also released (v won't be around to reuse it any more).

If I change the example so v becomes a pointer to a dynamically-allocated vector, you need to explicitly delete it, as the pointer going out of scope at 2 doesn't do that for you. It's better to use something like std::unique_ptr in that case, but if you don't and v is leaked, the storage it allocated will be leaked as well. As above, you need to make sure v is deleted, and calling clear isn't sufficient.

SQLite doesn't support removing or modifying columns, apparently. But do remember that column data types aren't rigid in SQLite, either.

How can I hide the Adobe Reader toolbar when displaying a PDF in the .NET WebBrowser control?

It appears the default setting for Adobe Reader X is for the toolbars not to be shown by default unless they are explicitly turned on by the user. And even when I turn them back on during a session, they don't show up automatically next time. As such, I suspect you have a preference set contrary to the default.

The state you desire, with the top and left toolbars not shown, is called "Read Mode". If you right-click on the document itself, and then click "Page Display Preferences" in the context menu that is shown, you'll be presented with the Adobe Reader Preferences dialog. (This is the same dialog you can access by opening the Adobe Reader application, and selecting "Preferences" from the "Edit" menu.) In the list shown in the left-hand column of the Preferences dialog, select "Internet". Finally, on the right, ensure that you have the "Display in Read Mode by default" box checked:

   Adobe Reader Preferences dialog

You can also turn off the toolbars temporarily by clicking the button at the right of the top toolbar that depicts arrows pointing to opposing corners:

   Adobe Reader Read Mode toolbar button

Finally, if you have "Display in Read Mode by default" turned off, but want to instruct the page you're loading not to display the toolbars (i.e., override the user's current preferences), you can append the following to the URL:

#toolbar=0&navpanes=0

So, for example, the following code will disable both the top toolbar (called "toolbar") and the left-hand toolbar (called "navpane"). However, if the user knows the keyboard combination (F8, and perhaps other methods as well), they will still be able to turn them back on.

string url = @"http://www.domain.com/file.pdf#toolbar=0&navpanes=0";
this._WebBrowser.Navigate(url);

You can read more about the parameters that are available for customizing the way PDF files open here on Adobe's developer website.

How to remove all click event handlers using jQuery?

You would use off() to remove an event like so:

$("#saveBtn").off("click");

but this will remove all click events bound to this element. If the function with SaveQuestion is the only event bound then the above will do it. If not do the following:

$("#saveBtn").off("click").click(function() { saveQuestion(id); });

What is the difference between response.sendRedirect() and request.getRequestDispatcher().forward(request,response)

forward

Control can be forward to resources available within the server from where the call is made. This transfer of control is done by the container internally and browser / client is not involved. This is the major difference between forward and sendRedirect. When the forward is done, the original request and response objects are transfered along with additional parameters if needed.

redirect

Control can be redirect to resources to different servers or domains. This transfer of control task is delegated to the browser by the container. That is, the redirect sends a header back to the browser / client. This header contains the resource url to be redirected by the browser. Then the browser initiates a new request to the given url. Since it is a new request, the old request and response object is lost.

For example, sendRedirect can transfer control from http://google.com to http://anydomain.com but forward cannot do this.

‘session’ is not lost in both forward and redirect.

To feel the difference between forward and sendRedirect visually see the address bar of your browser, in forward, you will not see the forwarded address (since the browser is not involved) in redirect, you can see the redirected address.

Application Crashes With "Internal Error In The .NET Runtime"

How to get access to raw resources that I put in res folder?

InputStream in = getResources().openRawResource(resourceName);

This will work correctly. Before that you have to create the xml file / text file in raw resource. Then it will be accessible.

Edit
Some times com.andriod.R will be imported if there is any error in layout file or image names. So You have to import package correctly, then only the raw file will be accessible.

How can my iphone app detect its own version number?

Building on Brad Larson's answer, if you have major and minor version info stored in the info plist (as I did on a particular project), this worked well for me:

- (NSString *)appNameAndVersionNumberDisplayString {
    NSDictionary *infoDictionary = [[NSBundle mainBundle] infoDictionary];
    NSString *appDisplayName = [infoDictionary objectForKey:@"CFBundleDisplayName"];
    NSString *majorVersion = [infoDictionary objectForKey:@"CFBundleShortVersionString"];
    NSString *minorVersion = [infoDictionary objectForKey:@"CFBundleVersion"];

    return [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@, Version %@ (%@)",
                appDisplayName, majorVersion, minorVersion];
}

Now revving a minor version manually can be a pain, and so using a source repository revision number trick is ideal. If you've not tied that in (as I hadn't), the above snippet can be useful. It also pulls out the app's display name.

How does Go update third-party packages?

Since the question mentioned third-party libraries and not all packages then you probably want to fall back to using wildcards.

A use case being: I just want to update all my packages that are obtained from the Github VCS, then you would just say:

go get -u github.com/... // ('...' being the wildcard).

This would go ahead and only update your github packages in the current $GOPATH

Same applies for within a VCS too, say you want to only upgrade all the packages from ogranizaiton A's repo's since as they have released a hotfix you depend on:

go get -u github.com/orgA/...

String concatenation in MySQL

MySQL is different from most DBMSs use of + or || for concatenation. It uses the CONCAT function:

SELECT CONCAT(first_name, " ", last_name) AS Name FROM test.student

As @eggyal pointed out in comments, you can enable string concatenation with the || operator in MySQL by setting the PIPES_AS_CONCAT SQL mode.

What is the difference between origin and upstream on GitHub?

after cloning a fork you have to explicitly add a remote upstream, with git add remote "the original repo you forked from". This becomes your upstream, you mostly fetch and merge from your upstream. Any other business such as pushing from your local to upstream should be done using pull request.

The #include<iostream> exists, but I get an error: identifier "cout" is undefined. Why?

The problem is the std namespace you are missing. cout is in the std namespace.
Add using namespace std; after the #include

(Deep) copying an array using jQuery

I plan on releasing this code in the next version of jPaq, but until then, you can use this if your goal is to do a deep copy of arrays:

Array.prototype.clone = function(doDeepCopy) {
    if(doDeepCopy) {
        var encountered = [{
            a : this,
            b : []
        }];

        var item,
            levels = [{a:this, b:encountered[0].b, i:0}],
            level = 0,
            i = 0,
            len = this.length;

        while(i < len) {
            item = levels[level].a[i];
            if(Object.prototype.toString.call(item) === "[object Array]") {
                for(var j = encountered.length - 1; j >= 0; j--) {
                    if(encountered[j].a === item) {
                        levels[level].b.push(encountered[j].b);
                        break;
                    }
                }
                if(j < 0) {
                    encountered.push(j = {
                        a : item,
                        b : []
                    });
                    levels[level].b.push(j.b);
                    levels[level].i = i + 1;
                    levels[++level] = {a:item, b:j.b, i:0};
                    i = -1;
                    len = item.length;
                }
            }
            else {
                levels[level].b.push(item);
            }

            if(++i == len && level > 0) {
                levels.pop();
                i = levels[--level].i;
                len = levels[level].a.length;
            }
        }

        return encountered[0].b;
    }
    else {
        return this.slice(0);
    }
};

The following is an example of how to call this function to do a deep copy of a recursive array:

// Create a recursive array to prove that the cloning function can handle it.
var arrOriginal = [1,2,3];
arrOriginal.push(arrOriginal);

// Make a shallow copy of the recursive array.
var arrShallowCopy = arrOriginal.clone();

// Prove that the shallow copy isn't the same as a deep copy by showing that
// arrShallowCopy contains arrOriginal.
alert("It is " + (arrShallowCopy[3] === arrOriginal)
    + " that arrShallowCopy contains arrOriginal.");

// Make a deep copy of the recursive array.
var arrDeepCopy = arrOriginal.clone(true);

// Prove that the deep copy really works by showing that the original array is
// not the fourth item in arrDeepCopy but that this new array is.
alert("It is "
    + (arrDeepCopy[3] !== arrOriginal && arrDeepCopy === arrDeepCopy[3])
    + " that arrDeepCopy contains itself and not arrOriginal.");

You can play around with this code here at JS Bin.

How can I use SUM() OVER()

if you are using SQL 2012 you should try

SELECT  ID,

How to pass arguments within docker-compose?

Now docker-compose supports variable substitution.

Compose uses the variable values from the shell environment in which docker-compose is run. For example, suppose the shell contains POSTGRES_VERSION=9.3 and you supply this configuration in your docker-compose.yml file:

db:
  image: "postgres:${POSTGRES_VERSION}"

When you run docker-compose up with this configuration, Compose looks for the POSTGRES_VERSION environment variable in the shell and substitutes its value in. For this example, Compose resolves the image to postgres:9.3 before running the configuration.

How to return an array from a function?

It is not possible to return an array from a C++ function. 8.3.5[dcl.fct]/6:

Functions shall not have a return type of type array or function[...]

Most commonly chosen alternatives are to return a value of class type where that class contains an array, e.g.

struct ArrayHolder
{
    int array[10];
};

ArrayHolder test();

Or to return a pointer to the first element of a statically or dynamically allocated array, the documentation must indicate to the user whether he needs to (and if so how he should) deallocate the array that the returned pointer points to.

E.g.

int* test2()
{
    return new int[10];
}

int* test3()
{
    static int array[10];
    return array;
}

While it is possible to return a reference or a pointer to an array, it's exceedingly rare as it is a more complex syntax with no practical advantage over any of the above methods.

int (&test4())[10]
{
        static int array[10];
        return array;
}

int (*test5())[10]
{
        static int array[10];
        return &array;
}

unique object identifier in javascript

Latest browsers provide a cleaner method for extending Object.prototype. This code will make the property hidden from property enumeration (for p in o)

For the browsers that implement defineProperty, you can implement uniqueId property like this:

(function() {
    var id_counter = 1;
    Object.defineProperty(Object.prototype, "__uniqueId", {
        writable: true
    });
    Object.defineProperty(Object.prototype, "uniqueId", {
        get: function() {
            if (this.__uniqueId == undefined)
                this.__uniqueId = id_counter++;
            return this.__uniqueId;
        }
    });
}());

For details, see https://developer.mozilla.org/en/JavaScript/Reference/Global_Objects/Object/defineProperty

Regex match text between tags

/<b>(.*?)<\/b>/g

Regular expression visualization

Add g (global) flag after:

/<b>(.*?)<\/b>/g.exec(str)
             //^-----here it is

However if you want to get all matched elements, then you need something like this:

var str = "<b>Bob</b>, I'm <b>20</b> years old, I like <b>programming</b>.";

var result = str.match(/<b>(.*?)<\/b>/g).map(function(val){
   return val.replace(/<\/?b>/g,'');
});
//result -> ["Bob", "20", "programming"]

If an element has attributes, regexp will be:

/<b [^>]+>(.*?)<\/b>/g.exec(str)

What is the best way to dump entire objects to a log in C#?

All of the paths above assume that your objects are serializable to XML or JSON,
or you must implement your own solution.

But in the end you still get to the point where you have to solve problems like

  • recursion in objects
  • non-serializable objects
  • exceptions
  • ...

Plus log you want more information:

  • when the event happened
  • callstack
  • which threead
  • what was in the web session
  • which ip address
  • url
  • ...

There is the best solution that solves all of this and much more.
Use this Nuget package: Desharp.
For all types of applications - both web and desktop applications.
See it's Desharp Github documentation. It has many configuration options.

Just call anywhere:

Desharp.Debug.Log(anyException);
Desharp.Debug.Log(anyCustomValueObject);
Desharp.Debug.Log(anyNonserializableObject);
Desharp.Debug.Log(anyFunc);
Desharp.Debug.Log(anyFunc, Desharp.Level.EMERGENCY); // you can store into different files
  • it can save the log in nice HTML (or in TEXT format, configurable)
  • it's possible to write optionally in background thread (configurable)
  • it has options for max objects depth and max strings length (configurable)
  • it uses loops for iteratable objects and backward reflection for everything else,
    indeed for anything you can find in .NET environment.

I believe it will help.

Eclipse reported "Failed to load JNI shared library"

First, ensure that your version of Eclipse and JDK match, either both 64-bit or both 32-bit (you can't mix-and-match 32-bit with 64-bit).

Second, the -vm argument in eclipse.ini should point to the java executable. See http://wiki.eclipse.org/Eclipse.ini for examples.

If you're unsure of what version (64-bit or 32-bit) of Eclipse you have installed, you can determine that a few different ways. See How to find out if an installed Eclipse is 32 or 64 bit version?

Adding gif image in an ImageView in android

In your build.gradle(Module:app), add android-gif-drawable as a dependency by adding the following code:

allprojects {
    repositories {
       mavenCentral()
    }
}

dependencies {
    compile 'pl.droidsonroids.gif:android-gif-drawable:1.2.+'
}

UPDATE: As of Android Gradle Plugin 3.0.0, the new command for compiling is implementation, so the above line might have to be changed to:

dependencies {
    implementation 'pl.droidsonroids.gif:android-gif-drawable:1.2.17'
}

Then sync your project. When synchronization ends, go to your layout file and add the following code:

<pl.droidsonroids.gif.GifImageView
    android:layout_width="match_parent"
    android:layout_height="match_parent"
    android:src="@drawable/gif_file"
/>

And that's it, you can manage it with a simple ImageView.

What's a simple way to get a text input popup dialog box on an iPhone

In Xamarin and C#:

var alert = new UIAlertView ("Your title", "Your description", null, "Cancel", new [] {"OK"});
alert.AlertViewStyle = UIAlertViewStyle.PlainTextInput;
alert.Clicked += (s, b) => {
    var title = alert.ButtonTitle(b.ButtonIndex);
    if (title == "OK") {
        var text = alert.GetTextField(0).Text;
        ...
    }
};

alert.Show();

Format numbers to strings in Python

Python 2.6+

It is possible to use the format() function, so in your case you can use:

return '{:02d}:{:02d}:{:.2f} {}'.format(hours, minutes, seconds, ampm)

There are multiple ways of using this function, so for further information you can check the documentation.

Python 3.6+

f-strings is a new feature that has been added to the language in Python 3.6. This facilitates formatting strings notoriously:

return f'{hours:02d}:{minutes:02d}:{seconds:.2f} {ampm}'

Can we execute a java program without a main() method?

Yes You can compile and execute without main method By using static block. But after static block executed (printed) you will get an error saying no main method found.

And Latest INFO --> YOU cant Do this with JAVA 7 version. IT will not execute.

{
    static
    {
        System.out.println("Hello World!");
        System.exit(0); // prevents “main method not found” error
    }
}

But this will not execute with JAVA 7 version.

Angular 2 ngfor first, last, index loop

Check out this plunkr.

When you're binding to variables, you need to use the brackets. Also, you use the hashtag when you want to get references to elements in your html, not for declaring variables inside of templates like that.

<md-button-toggle *ngFor="let indicador of indicadores; let first = first;" [value]="indicador.id" [checked]="first">
...

Edit: Thanks to Christopher Moore: Angular exposes the following local variables:

  • index
  • first
  • last
  • even
  • odd

Get model's fields in Django

If you need this for your admin site, there is also the ModelAdmin.get_fields method (docs), which returns a list of field name strings.

For example:

class MyModelAdmin(admin.ModelAdmin):
    # extending change_view, just as an example
    def change_view(self, request, object_id=None, form_url='', extra_context=None):
        # get the model field names
        field_names = self.get_fields(request)
        # use the field names
        ...

XmlSerializer giving FileNotFoundException at constructor

I ran into this exact issue and couldn't get around it by any of the solutions mentioned.

Then I finally found a solution. It appears that the serializer needs not only the type, but the nested types as well. Changing this:

XmlSerializer xmlSerializer = new XmlSerializer(typeof(T));

To this:

XmlSerializer xmlSerializer = new XmlSerializer(typeof(T).GetNestedTypes());

Fixed the issue for me. No more exceptions or anything.

How to get child element by ID in JavaScript?

$(selectedDOM).find();

function looking for all dom objects inside the selected DOM. i.e.

<div id="mainDiv">
    <p>Paragraph 1</p>
    <p>Paragraph 2</p>
    <div id="innerDiv">
         <a href="#">link</a>
         <p>Paragraph 3</p>
    </div>
</div>

here if you write;

$("#mainDiv").find("p");

you will get tree p elements together. On the other side,

$("#mainDiv").children("p");

Function searching in the just children DOMs of the selected DOM object. So, by this code you will get just paragraph 1 and paragraph 2. It is so beneficial to prevent browser doing unnecessary progress.

Target WSGI script cannot be loaded as Python module

I had the same problem and at first I didn't realise I could scroll further down and see the actual error message. In my case, it was an import error:

ImportError: No module named bootstrap3

After installing it via pip (pip install django-bootstrap3), I restarted Apache and it worked.

What is the purpose of .PHONY in a Makefile?

I often use them to tell the default target not to fire.

superclean: clean andsomethingelse

blah: superclean

clean:
   @echo clean

%:
   @echo catcher $@

.PHONY: superclean

Without PHONY, make superclean would fire clean, andsomethingelse, and catcher superclean; but with PHONY, make superclean won't fire the catcher superclean.

We don't have to worry about telling make the clean target is PHONY, because it isn't completely phony. Though it never produces the clean file, it has commands to fire so make will think it's a final target.

However, the superclean target really is phony, so make will try to stack it up with anything else that provides deps for the superclean target — this includes other superclean targets and the % target.

Note that we don't say anything at all about andsomethingelse or blah, so they clearly go to the catcher.

The output looks something like this:

$ make clean
clean

$ make superclean
clean
catcher andsomethingelse

$ make blah
clean
catcher andsomethingelse
catcher blah

Virtual Memory Usage from Java under Linux, too much memory used

Sun's java 1.4 has the following arguments to control memory size:

-Xmsn Specify the initial size, in bytes, of the memory allocation pool. This value must be a multiple of 1024 greater than 1MB. Append the letter k or K to indicate kilobytes, or m or M to indicate megabytes. The default value is 2MB. Examples:

           -Xms6291456
           -Xms6144k
           -Xms6m

-Xmxn Specify the maximum size, in bytes, of the memory allocation pool. This value must a multiple of 1024 greater than 2MB. Append the letter k or K to indicate kilobytes, or m or M to indicate megabytes. The default value is 64MB. Examples:

           -Xmx83886080
           -Xmx81920k
           -Xmx80m

Using %f with strftime() in Python to get microseconds

You can also get microsecond precision from the time module using its time() function.
(time.time() returns the time in seconds since epoch. Its fractional part is the time in microseconds, which is what you want.)

>>> from time import time
>>> time()

How do I make a Docker container start automatically on system boot?

I wanted to achieve on-boot container startup on Windows.

Therefore, I just created a scheduled Task which launches on system boot. That task simply starts "Docker for Windows.exe" (or whatever is the name of your docker executable).

Then, all containers with a restart policy of "always" will start up.

What is the difference between UNION and UNION ALL?

Important! Difference between Oracle and Mysql: Let's say that t1 t2 don't have duplicate rows between them but they have duplicate rows individual. Example: t1 has sales from 2017 and t2 from 2018

SELECT T1.YEAR, T1.PRODUCT FROM T1

UNION ALL

SELECT T2.YEAR, T2.PRODUCT FROM T2

In ORACLE UNION ALL fetches all rows from both tables. The same will occur in MySQL.

However:

SELECT T1.YEAR, T1.PRODUCT FROM T1

UNION

SELECT T2.YEAR, T2.PRODUCT FROM T2

In ORACLE, UNION fetches all rows from both tables because there are no duplicate values between t1 and t2. On the other hand in MySQL the resultset will have fewer rows because there will be duplicate rows within table t1 and also within table t2!

Correct use for angular-translate in controllers

To make a translation in the controller you could use $translate service:

$translate(['COMMON.SI', 'COMMON.NO']).then(function (translations) {
    vm.si = translations['COMMON.SI'];
    vm.no = translations['COMMON.NO'];
});

That statement only does the translation on controller activation but it doesn't detect the runtime change in language. In order to achieve that behavior, you could listen the $rootScope event: $translateChangeSuccess and do the same translation there:

    $rootScope.$on('$translateChangeSuccess', function () {
        $translate(['COMMON.SI', 'COMMON.NO']).then(function (translations) {
            vm.si = translations['COMMON.SI'];
            vm.no = translations['COMMON.NO'];
        });
    });

Of course, you could encapsulate the $translateservice in a method and call it in the controller and in the $translateChangeSucesslistener.

Parsing CSV / tab-delimited txt file with Python

Start by turning the text into a list of lists. That will take care of the parsing part:

lol = list(csv.reader(open('text.txt', 'rb'), delimiter='\t'))

The rest can be done with indexed lookups:

key = lol[6][0]      # cell A7
value = lol[6][3]    # cell D7
d[key] = value # add the entry to the dictionary

Rails 3 check if attribute changed

ActiveModel::Dirty didn't work for me because the @model.update_attributes() hid the changes. So this is how I detected changes it in an update method in a controller:

def update
  @model = Model.find(params[:id])
  detect_changes

  if @model.update_attributes(params[:model])
    do_stuff if attr_changed?
  end
end

private

def detect_changes
  @changed = []
  @changed << :attr if @model.attr != params[:model][:attr]
end

def attr_changed?
  @changed.include :attr
end

If you're trying to detect a lot of attribute changes it could get messy though. Probably shouldn't do this in a controller, but meh.

how to change attribute "hidden" in jquery

$(':checkbox').change(function(){
    $('#delete').removeAttr('hidden');
});

Note, thanks to tip by A.Wolff, you should use removeAttr instead of setting to false. When set to false, the element will still be hidden. Therefore, removing is more effective.

Trigger a keypress/keydown/keyup event in JS/jQuery?

For typescript cast to KeyboardEventInit and provide the correct keyCode integer

const event = new KeyboardEvent("keydown", {
          keyCode: 38,

Spring Boot @autowired does not work, classes in different package

I had the same problem. It worked for me when i removed the private modifier from the Autowired objects.

How exactly does the python any() function work?

It's because the iterable is

(x > 0 for x in list)

Note that x > 0 returns either True or False and thus you have an iterable of booleans.

SQL Column definition : default value and not null redundant?

In other words, doesn't DEFAULT render NOT NULL redundant ?

No, it is not redundant. To extended accepted answer. For column col which is nullable awe can insert NULL even when DEFAULT is defined:

CREATE TABLE t(id INT PRIMARY KEY, col INT DEFAULT 10);

-- we just inserted NULL into column with DEFAULT
INSERT INTO t(id, col) VALUES(1, NULL);

+-----+------+
| ID  | COL  |
+-----+------+
|   1 | null |
+-----+------+

Oracle introduced additional syntax for such scenario to overide explicit NULL with default DEFAULT ON NULL:

CREATE TABLE t2(id INT PRIMARY KEY, col INT DEFAULT ON NULL 10);
-- same as
--CREATE TABLE t2(id INT PRIMARY KEY, col INT DEFAULT ON NULL 10 NOT NULL);

INSERT INTO t2(id, col) VALUES(1, NULL);

+-----+-----+
| ID  | COL |
+-----+-----+
|  1  |  10 |
+-----+-----+

Here we tried to insert NULL but get default instead.

db<>fiddle demo

ON NULL

If you specify the ON NULL clause, then Oracle Database assigns the DEFAULT column value when a subsequent INSERT statement attempts to assign a value that evaluates to NULL.

When you specify ON NULL, the NOT NULL constraint and NOT DEFERRABLE constraint state are implicitly specified.

How to get the current time in Python

First import the datetime module from datetime

from datetime import datetime

Then print the current time as 'yyyy-mm-dd hh:mm:ss'

print(str(datetime.now())

To get only the time in the form 'hh:mm:ss' where ss stands for the full number of seconds plus the fraction of seconds elapsed, just do;

print(str(datetime.now()[11:])

Converting the datetime.now() to a string yields an answer that is in the format that feels like the regular DATES AND TIMES we are used to.

How do I put two increment statements in a C++ 'for' loop?

I came here to remind myself how to code a second index into the increment clause of a FOR loop, which I knew could be done mainly from observing it in a sample that I incorporated into another project, that written in C++.

Today, I am working in C#, but I felt sure that it would obey the same rules in this regard, since the FOR statement is one of the oldest control structures in all of programming. Thankfully, I had recently spent several days precisely documenting the behavior of a FOR loop in one of my older C programs, and I quickly realized that those studies held lessons that applied to today's C# problem, in particular to the behavior of the second index variable.

For the unwary, following is a summary of my observations. Everything I saw happening today, by carefully observing variables in the Locals window, confirmed my expectation that a C# FOR statement behaves exactly like a C or C++ FOR statement.

  1. The first time a FOR loop executes, the increment clause (the 3rd of its three) is skipped. In Visual C and C++, the increment is generated as three machine instructions in the middle of the block that implements the loop, so that the initial pass runs the initialization code once only, then jumps over the increment block to execute the termination test. This implements the feature that a FOR loop executes zero or more times, depending on the state of its index and limit variables.
  2. If the body of the loop executes, its last statement is a jump to the first of the three increment instructions that were skipped by the first iteration. After these execute, control falls naturally into the limit test code that implements the middle clause. The outcome of that test determines whether the body of the FOR loop executes, or whether control transfers to the next instruction past the jump at the bottom of its scope.
  3. Since control transfers from the bottom of the FOR loop block to the increment block, the index variable is incremented before the test is executed. Not only does this behavior explain why you must code your limit clauses the way you learned, but it affects any secondary increment that you add, via the comma operator, because it becomes part of the third clause. Hence, it is not changed on the first iteration, but it is on the last iteration, which never executes the body.

If either of your index variables remains in scope when the loop ends, their value will be one higher than the threshold that stops the loop, in the case of the true index variable. Likewise, if, for example, the second variable is initialized to zero before the loop is entered, its value at the end will be the iteration count, assuming that it is an increment (++), not a decrement, and that nothing in the body of the loop changes its value.

What is Python buffer type for?

I think buffers are e.g. useful when interfacing python to native libraries. (Guido van Rossum explains buffer in this mailinglist post).

For example, numpy seems to use buffer for efficient data storage:

import numpy
a = numpy.ndarray(1000000)

the a.data is a:

<read-write buffer for 0x1d7b410, size 8000000, offset 0 at 0x1e353b0>

Action Image MVC3 Razor

You can use Url.Content which works for all links as it translates the tilde ~ to the root uri.

<a href="@Url.Action("Edit", new { id=MyId })">
    <img src="@Url.Content("~/Content/Images/Image.bmp")", alt="Edit" />
</a>

Simplest way to set image as JPanel background

As I know the way you can do it is to override paintComponent method that demands to inherit JPanel

 @Override
protected void paintComponent(Graphics g) {
    super.paintComponent(g); // paint the background image and scale it to fill the entire space
    g.drawImage(/*....*/);
}

The other way (a bit complicated) to create second custom JPanel and put is as background for your main

ImagePanel

public class ImagePanel extends JPanel
{
private static final long serialVersionUID = 1L;
private Image image = null;
private int iWidth2;
private int iHeight2;

public ImagePanel(Image image)
{
    this.image = image;
    this.iWidth2 = image.getWidth(this)/2;
    this.iHeight2 = image.getHeight(this)/2;
}

public void paintComponent(Graphics g)
{
    super.paintComponent(g);
    if (image != null)
    {
        int x = this.getParent().getWidth()/2 - iWidth2;
        int y = this.getParent().getHeight()/2 - iHeight2;
        g.drawImage(image,x,y,this);
    }
}
}

EmptyPanel

public class EmptyPanel extends JPanel{

private static final long serialVersionUID = 1L;

public EmptyPanel() {
    super();
    init();
}

@Override
public boolean isOptimizedDrawingEnabled() {
    return false;
}

public void init(){

    LayoutManager overlay = new OverlayLayout(this);
    this.setLayout(overlay);

    ImagePanel iPanel = new ImagePanel(new IconToImage(IconFactory.BG_CENTER).getImage());
    iPanel.setLayout(new BorderLayout());
    this.add(iPanel);
    iPanel.setOpaque(false);
}
}

IconToImage

public class IconToImage {

Icon icon;
Image image;

public IconToImage(Icon icon) {
    this.icon = icon;
    image = iconToImage();
}

public Image iconToImage() {
    if (icon instanceof ImageIcon) {
        return ((ImageIcon)icon).getImage();
    } else {
        int w = icon.getIconWidth();
        int h = icon.getIconHeight();
        GraphicsEnvironment ge = GraphicsEnvironment.getLocalGraphicsEnvironment();
        GraphicsDevice gd = ge.getDefaultScreenDevice();
        GraphicsConfiguration gc = gd.getDefaultConfiguration();
        BufferedImage image = gc.createCompatibleImage(w, h);
        Graphics2D g = image.createGraphics();
        icon.paintIcon(null, g, 0, 0);
        g.dispose();
        return image;
    }
}

/**
 * @return the image
 */
public Image getImage() {
    return image;
}
}

Ordering issue with date values when creating pivot tables

Try creating a new pivot table, and not just refreshing.

I had a case where I forgot to add in a few dates. After adding them in I updated the pivot table range and hit refresh. They appeared at the end of the pivot table, out of order. I then tried to simply create a new pivot table and the dates where all in order.

how to install Lex and Yacc in Ubuntu?

Use the synaptic packet manager in order to install yacc / lex. If you are feeling more comfortable doing this on the console just do:

sudo apt-get install bison flex

There are some very nice articles on the net on how to get started with those tools. I found the article from CodeProject to be quite good and helpful (see here). But you should just try and search for "introduction to lex", there are plenty of good articles showing up.

How can I split a shell command over multiple lines when using an IF statement?

For Windows/WSL/Cygwin etc users:

Make sure that your line endings are standard Unix line feeds, i.e. \n (LF) only.

Using Windows line endings \r\n (CRLF) line endings will break the command line break.

This is because having \ at the end of a line with Windows line ending translates to \ \r \n.
As Mark correctly explains above:

The line-continuation will fail if you have whitespace after the backslash and before the newline.

This includes not just space () or tabs (\t) but also the carriage return (\r).

Changing text color onclick

A rewrite of the answer by Sarfraz would be something like this, I think:

<script>

    document.getElementById('change').onclick = changeColor;

    function changeColor() {
        document.body.style.color = "purple";
        return false;
    }

</script>

You'd either have to put this script at the bottom of your page, right before the closing body tag, or put the handler assignment in a function called onload - or if you're using jQuery there's the very elegant $(document).ready(function() { ... } );

Note that when you assign event handlers this way, it takes the functionality out of your HTML. Also note you set it equal to the function name -- no (). If you did onclick = myFunc(); the function would actually execute when the handler is being set.

And I'm curious -- you knew enough to script changing the background color, but not the text color? strange:)

How to transfer some data to another Fragment?

Use a Bundle. Here's an example:

Fragment fragment = new Fragment();
Bundle bundle = new Bundle();
bundle.putInt(key, value);
fragment.setArguments(bundle);

Bundle has put methods for lots of data types. See this

Then in your Fragment, retrieve the data (e.g. in onCreate() method) with:

Bundle bundle = this.getArguments();
if (bundle != null) {
        int myInt = bundle.getInt(key, defaultValue);
}

Enable tcp\ip remote connections to sql server express already installed database with code or script(query)

I tested below code with SQL Server 2008 R2 Express and I believe we should have solution for all 6 steps you outlined. Let's take on them one-by-one:

1 - Enable TCP/IP

We can enable TCP/IP protocol with WMI:

set wmiComputer = GetObject( _
    "winmgmts:" _
    & "\\.\root\Microsoft\SqlServer\ComputerManagement10")
set tcpProtocols = wmiComputer.ExecQuery( _
    "select * from ServerNetworkProtocol " _
    & "where InstanceName = 'SQLEXPRESS' and ProtocolName = 'Tcp'")

if tcpProtocols.Count = 1 then
    ' set tcpProtocol = tcpProtocols(0)
    ' I wish this worked, but unfortunately
    ' there's no int-indexed Item property in this type

    ' Doing this instead
    for each tcpProtocol in tcpProtocols
        dim setEnableResult
            setEnableResult = tcpProtocol.SetEnable()
            if setEnableResult <> 0 then
                Wscript.Echo "Failed!"
            end if
    next
end if

2 - Open the right ports in the firewall

I believe your solution will work, just make sure you specify the right port. I suggest we pick a different port than 1433 and make it a static port SQL Server Express will be listening on. I will be using 3456 in this post, but please pick a different number in the real implementation (I feel that we will see a lot of applications using 3456 soon :-)

3 - Modify TCP/IP properties enable a IP address

We can use WMI again. Since we are using static port 3456, we just need to update two properties in IPAll section: disable dynamic ports and set the listening port to 3456:

set wmiComputer = GetObject( _
    "winmgmts:" _
    & "\\.\root\Microsoft\SqlServer\ComputerManagement10")
set tcpProperties = wmiComputer.ExecQuery( _
    "select * from ServerNetworkProtocolProperty " _
    & "where InstanceName='SQLEXPRESS' and " _
    & "ProtocolName='Tcp' and IPAddressName='IPAll'")

for each tcpProperty in tcpProperties
    dim setValueResult, requestedValue

    if tcpProperty.PropertyName = "TcpPort" then
        requestedValue = "3456"
    elseif tcpProperty.PropertyName ="TcpDynamicPorts" then
        requestedValue = ""
    end if

    setValueResult = tcpProperty.SetStringValue(requestedValue)
    if setValueResult = 0 then
        Wscript.Echo "" & tcpProperty.PropertyName & " set."
    else
        Wscript.Echo "" & tcpProperty.PropertyName & " failed!"
    end if
next

Note that I didn't have to enable any of the individual addresses to make it work, but if it is required in your case, you should be able to extend this script easily to do so.

Just a reminder that when working with WMI, WBEMTest.exe is your best friend!

4 - Enable mixed mode authentication in sql server

I wish we could use WMI again, but unfortunately this setting is not exposed through WMI. There are two other options:

  1. Use LoginMode property of Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo.Server class, as described here.

  2. Use LoginMode value in SQL Server registry, as described in this post. Note that by default the SQL Server Express instance is named SQLEXPRESS, so for my SQL Server 2008 R2 Express instance the right registry key was HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10_50.SQLEXPRESS\MSSQLServer.

5 - Change user (sa) default password

You got this one covered.

6 - Finally (connect to the instance)

Since we are using a static port assigned to our SQL Server Express instance, there's no need to use instance name in the server address anymore.

SQLCMD -U sa -P newPassword -S 192.168.0.120,3456

Please let me know if this works for you (fingers crossed!).

TypeError: int() argument must be a string, a bytes-like object or a number, not 'list'

What the error is telling, is that you can't convert an entire list into an integer. You could get an index from the list and convert that into an integer:

x = ["0", "1", "2"]
y = int(x[0]) #accessing the zeroth element

If you're trying to convert a whole list into an integer, you are going to have to convert the list into a string first:

x = ["0", "1", "2"]
y = ''.join(x) # converting list into string
z = int(y)

If your list elements are not strings, you'll have to convert them to strings before using str.join:

x = [0, 1, 2]
y = ''.join(map(str, x))
z = int(y)

Also, as stated above, make sure that you're not returning a nested list.

CSS table-cell equal width

Replace

  <div style="display:table;">
    <div style="display:table-cell;"></div>
    <div style="display:table-cell;"></div>
  </div>

with

  <table>
    <tr><td>content cell1</td></tr>
    <tr><td>content cell1</td></tr>
  </table>

Look at all the issues surrounding trying to make divs perform like tables. They had to add table-xxx to mimic table layouts

Tables are supported and work very well in all browsers. Why ditch them? the fact that they had to mimic them is proof they did their job and well.

In my opinion use the best tool for the job and if you want tabulated data or something that resembles tabulated data tables just work.

Very Late reply I know but worth voicing.

How can I parse a CSV string with JavaScript, which contains comma in data?

To complement this answer

If you need to parse quotes escaped with another quote, example:

"some ""value"" that is on xlsx file",123

You can use

function parse(text) {
  const csvExp = /(?!\s*$)\s*(?:'([^'\\]*(?:\\[\S\s][^'\\]*)*)'|"([^"\\]*(?:\\[\S\s][^"\\]*)*)"|"([^""]*(?:"[\S\s][^""]*)*)"|([^,'"\s\\]*(?:\s+[^,'"\s\\]+)*))\s*(?:,|$)/g;

  const values = [];

  text.replace(csvExp, (m0, m1, m2, m3, m4) => {
    if (m1 !== undefined) {
      values.push(m1.replace(/\\'/g, "'"));
    }
    else if (m2 !== undefined) {
      values.push(m2.replace(/\\"/g, '"'));
    }
    else if (m3 !== undefined) {
      values.push(m3.replace(/""/g, '"'));
    }
    else if (m4 !== undefined) {
      values.push(m4);
    }
    return '';
  });

bash: Bad Substitution

The default shell (/bin/sh) under Ubuntu points to dash, not bash.

me@pc:~$ readlink -f $(which sh)
/bin/dash

So if you chmod +x your_script_file.sh and then run it with ./your_script_file.sh, or if you run it with bash your_script_file.sh, it should work fine.

Running it with sh your_script_file.sh will not work because the hashbang line will be ignored and the script will be interpreted by dash, which does not support that string substitution syntax.

Finding index of character in Swift String

I know this is old and an answer has been accepted, but you can find the index of the string in a couple lines of code using:

E.g $mail->Password = " por$ch3"; is valid but will not work using the code above . The solution should be as follows: $mail->Password = "por\$ch3"; Note the Backslash I placed before the dollar character within my password. That should work if you have a password using special characters

XML Error: There are multiple root elements

You need to enclose your <parent> elements in a surrounding element as XML Documents can have only one root node:

<parents> <!-- I've added this tag -->
    <parent>
        <child>
            Text
        </child>
    </parent>
    <parent>
        <child>
            <grandchild>
                Text
            </grandchild>
            <grandchild>
                Text
            </grandchild>
        </child>
        <child>
            Text
        </child>
    </parent>
</parents> <!-- I've added this tag -->

As you're receiving this markup from somewhere else, rather than generating it yourself, you may have to do this yourself by treating the response as a string and wrapping it with appropriate tags, prior to attempting to parse it as XML.

So, you've a couple of choices:

  1. Get the provider of the web service to return you actual XML that has one root node
  2. Pre-process the XML, as I've suggested above, to add a root node
  3. Pre-process the XML to split it into multiple chunks (i.e. one for each <parent> node) and process each as a distinct XML Document

error: Your local changes to the following files would be overwritten by checkout

I encountered the same problem and solved it by

git checkout -f branch

Well, be careful with the -f switch. You will lose any uncommitted changes if you use the -f switch. While there may be some use cases where it is helpful to use -f, in most cases, you may want to stash your changes and then switch branches. The stashing procedure is explained above.

Setting the correct PATH for Eclipse

Like Abob said:

Eclipse doesn't consult the JAVA_HOME variable

You should specify where Eclipse should find your JDK in the file eclipse.ini. Specifically, the following parameter (note that it is 2 separate lines in the ini file):

-vm
C:\Java\JDK\1.8\bin\javaw.exe

or wherever your javaw.exe happens to be.

Note: The format of the ini file is very particular; make sure to consult https://wiki.eclipse.org/Eclipse.ini to ensure you get it exactly right.

jQuery Mobile Page refresh mechanism

I solved this problem by using the the data-cache="false" attribute in the page div on the pages I wanted refreshed.

<div data-role="page" data-cache="false">
/*content goes here*/

</div>

In my case it was my shopping cart. If a customer added an item to their cart and then continued shopping and then added another item to their cart the cart page would not show the new item. Unless they refreshed the page. Setting data-cache to false instructs JQM not to cache that page as far as I understand.

Hope this helps others in the future.

I want to multiply two columns in a pandas DataFrame and add the result into a new column

To make things neat, I take Hayden's solution but make a small function out of it.

def create_value(row):
    if row['Action'] == 'Sell':
        return row['Prices'] * row['Amount']
    else:
        return -row['Prices']*row['Amount']

so that when we want to apply the function to our dataframe, we can do..

df['Value'] = df.apply(lambda row: create_value(row), axis=1)

...and any modifications only need to occur in the small function itself.

Don't use ix. It's deprecated. The most readable and idiomatic way of doing this is df.drop():

>>> df

          a         b         c         d
0  0.175127  0.191051  0.382122  0.869242
1  0.414376  0.300502  0.554819  0.497524
2  0.142878  0.406830  0.314240  0.093132
3  0.337368  0.851783  0.933441  0.949598

>>> df.drop('b', axis=1)

          a         c         d
0  0.175127  0.382122  0.869242
1  0.414376  0.554819  0.497524
2  0.142878  0.314240  0.093132
3  0.337368  0.933441  0.949598

Note that by default, .drop() does not operate inplace; despite the ominous name, df is unharmed by this process. If you want to permanently remove b from df, do df.drop('b', inplace=True).

df.drop() also accepts a list of labels, e.g. df.drop(['a', 'b'], axis=1) will drop column a and b.

How to get the url parameters using AngularJS

While routing is indeed a good solution for application-level URL parsing, you may want to use the more low-level $location service, as injected in your own service or controller:

var paramValue = $location.search().myParam;

This simple syntax will work for http://example.com/path?myParam=paramValue. However, only if you configured the $locationProvider in the HTML 5 mode before:

$locationProvider.html5Mode(true);

Otherwise have a look at the http://example.com/#!/path?myParam=someValue "Hashbang" syntax which is a bit more complicated, but have the benefit of working on old browsers (non-HTML 5 compatible) as well.

Overwriting my local branch with remote branch

first, create a new branch in the current position (in case you need your old 'screwed up' history):

git branch fubar-pin

update your list of remote branches and sync new commits:

git fetch --all

then, reset your branch to the point where origin/branch points to:

git reset --hard origin/branch

be careful, this will remove any changes from your working tree!

Can multiple different HTML elements have the same ID if they're different elements?

I think there is a difference between whether something SHOULD be unique or MUST be unique (i.e. enforced by web browsers).

Should IDs be unique? YES.

Must IDs be unique? NO, at least IE and FireFox allow multiple elements to have the same ID.

Get IP address of an interface on Linux

My 2 cents: the same code works even if iOS:

#include <arpa/inet.h>
#include <sys/socket.h>
#include <netdb.h>
#include <ifaddrs.h>
#include <stdio.h>
#include <stdlib.h>
#include <unistd.h>
#include <string.h>

#import "ViewController.h"

@interface ViewController ()

@end

@implementation ViewController

- (void)viewDidLoad {
    [super viewDidLoad];
    // Do any additional setup after loading the view, typically from a nib.
    showIP();
}

void showIP()
{
    struct ifaddrs *ifaddr, *ifa;
    int family, s;
    char host[NI_MAXHOST];

    if (getifaddrs(&ifaddr) == -1)
    {
        perror("getifaddrs");
        exit(EXIT_FAILURE);
    }

    for (ifa = ifaddr; ifa != NULL; ifa = ifa->ifa_next)
    {
        if (ifa->ifa_addr == NULL)
            continue;

        s=getnameinfo(ifa->ifa_addr,sizeof(struct sockaddr_in),host, NI_MAXHOST, NULL, 0, NI_NUMERICHOST);

        if( /*(strcmp(ifa->ifa_name,"wlan0")==0)&&( */ ifa->ifa_addr->sa_family==AF_INET) // )
        {
            if (s != 0)
            {
                printf("getnameinfo() failed: %s\n", gai_strerror(s));
                exit(EXIT_FAILURE);
            }
            printf("\tInterface : <%s>\n",ifa->ifa_name );
            printf("\t  Address : <%s>\n", host);
        }
    }

    freeifaddrs(ifaddr);
}

@end

I simply removed the test against wlan0 to see data. ps You can remove "family"

And paste it into console. Works perfectly.

Pull request vs Merge request

They are the same feature

Merge or pull requests are created in a git management application and ask an assigned person to merge two branches. Tools such as GitHub and Bitbucket choose the name pull request since the first manual action would be to pull the feature branch. Tools such as GitLab and Gitorious choose the name merge request since that is the final action that is requested of the assignee. In this article we’ll refer to them as merge requests.

Unfortunately MyApp has stopped. How can I solve this?

You can use Google's ADB tool to get Logcat file to analyze the issue.

adb logcat > logcat.txt

open logcat.txt file and search for your application name. There should be information on why it failed, the line number, Class name, etc.

TypeScript or JavaScript type casting

In typescript it is possible to do an instanceof check in an if statement and you will have access to the same variable with the Typed properties.

So let's say MarkerSymbolInfo has a property on it called marker. You can do the following:

if (symbolInfo instanceof MarkerSymbol) {
    // access .marker here
    const marker = symbolInfo.marker
}

It's a nice little trick to get the instance of a variable using the same variable without needing to reassign it to a different variable name.

How to call a Python function from Node.js

You can now use RPC libraries that support Python and Javascript such as zerorpc

From their front page:

Node.js Client

var zerorpc = require("zerorpc");

var client = new zerorpc.Client();
client.connect("tcp://127.0.0.1:4242");

client.invoke("hello", "RPC", function(error, res, more) {
    console.log(res);
});

Python Server

import zerorpc

    def hello(self, name):
        return "Hello, %s" % name

s = zerorpc.Server(HelloRPC())
s.bind("tcp://0.0.0.0:4242")
s.run()

XAMPP installation on Win 8.1 with UAC Warning

There's nothing to be worried upon for this. Like other servers, install xampp somewhere outside of the default Program Files folder of Windows. It shall work fine.

I previously had wamp server installed on my machine and i never understood why wamp server installs itself outside of the default directory. Xampp cleared this, now i have both the servers lying outside the Program Files folder and are running fine.

How to initialize a two-dimensional array in Python?

Incorrect Approach: [[None*m]*n]

>>> m, n = map(int, raw_input().split())
5 5
>>> x[0][0] = 34
>>> x
[[34, None, None, None, None], [34, None, None, None, None], [34, None, None, None, None], [34, None, None, None, None], [34, None, None, None, None]]
>>> id(x[0][0])
140416461589776
>>> id(x[3][0])
140416461589776

With this approach, python does not allow creating different address space for the outer columns and will lead to various misbehaviour than your expectation.

Correct Approach but with exception:

y = [[0 for i in range(m)] for j in range(n)]
>>> id(y[0][0]) == id(y[1][0])
False

It is good approach but there is exception if you set default value to None

>>> r = [[None for i in range(5)] for j in range(5)]
>>> r
[[None, None, None, None, None], [None, None, None, None, None], [None, None, None, None, None], [None, None, None, None, None], [None, None, None, None, None]]
>>> id(r[0][0]) == id(r[2][0])
True

So set your default value properly using this approach.

Absolute correct:

Follow the mike's reply of double loop.

Assign JavaScript variable to Java Variable in JSP

As JavaScript is client side and JSP is Server side.

So Javascript does not execute until it gets to the browser, But Java executes on the server. So, Java does not know the value of the JavaScript variable.

However you assign value of Java variable to JavaScript variable.

Two-dimensional array in Swift

Define mutable array

// 2 dimensional array of arrays of Ints
var arr = [[Int]]()

OR:

// 2 dimensional array of arrays of Ints
var arr: [[Int]] = []

OR if you need an array of predefined size (as mentioned by @0x7fffffff in comments):

// 2 dimensional array of arrays of Ints set to 0. Arrays size is 10x5
var arr = Array(count: 3, repeatedValue: Array(count: 2, repeatedValue: 0))

// ...and for Swift 3+:
var arr = Array(repeating: Array(repeating: 0, count: 2), count: 3)

Change element at position

arr[0][1] = 18

OR

let myVar = 18
arr[0][1] = myVar

Change sub array

arr[1] = [123, 456, 789]

OR

arr[0] += 234

OR

arr[0] += [345, 678]

If you had 3x2 array of 0(zeros) before these changes, now you have:

[
  [0, 0, 234, 345, 678], // 5 elements!
  [123, 456, 789],
  [0, 0]
]

So be aware that sub arrays are mutable and you can redefine initial array that represented matrix.

Examine size/bounds before access

let a = 0
let b = 1

if arr.count > a && arr[a].count > b {
    println(arr[a][b])
}

Remarks: Same markup rules for 3 and N dimensional arrays.

Spring Could not Resolve placeholder

Hopefully it will be still helpful, the application.properties (or application.yml) file must be in both the paths:

  • src/main/resource/config
  • src/test/resource/config

alternative to "!is.null()" in R

If it's just a matter of easy reading, you could always define your own function :

is.not.null <- function(x) !is.null(x)

So you can use it all along your program.

is.not.null(3)
is.not.null(NULL)

When should I use mmap for file access?

mmap is great if you have multiple processes accessing data in a read only fashion from the same file, which is common in the kind of server systems I write. mmap allows all those processes to share the same physical memory pages, saving a lot of memory.

mmap also allows the operating system to optimize paging operations. For example, consider two programs; program A which reads in a 1MB file into a buffer creating with malloc, and program B which mmaps the 1MB file into memory. If the operating system has to swap part of A's memory out, it must write the contents of the buffer to swap before it can reuse the memory. In B's case any unmodified mmap'd pages can be reused immediately because the OS knows how to restore them from the existing file they were mmap'd from. (The OS can detect which pages are unmodified by initially marking writable mmap'd pages as read only and catching seg faults, similar to Copy on Write strategy).

mmap is also useful for inter process communication. You can mmap a file as read / write in the processes that need to communicate and then use synchronization primitives in the mmap'd region (this is what the MAP_HASSEMAPHORE flag is for).

One place mmap can be awkward is if you need to work with very large files on a 32 bit machine. This is because mmap has to find a contiguous block of addresses in your process's address space that is large enough to fit the entire range of the file being mapped. This can become a problem if your address space becomes fragmented, where you might have 2 GB of address space free, but no individual range of it can fit a 1 GB file mapping. In this case you may have to map the file in smaller chunks than you would like to make it fit.

Another potential awkwardness with mmap as a replacement for read / write is that you have to start your mapping on offsets of the page size. If you just want to get some data at offset X you will need to fixup that offset so it's compatible with mmap.

And finally, read / write are the only way you can work with some types of files. mmap can't be used on things like pipes and ttys.

What is offsetHeight, clientHeight, scrollHeight?

* offsetHeight is a measurement in pixels of the element's CSS height, including border, padding and the element's horizontal scrollbar.

* clientHeight property returns the viewable height of an element in pixels, including padding, but not the border, scrollbar or margin.

* scrollHeight value is equal to the minimum height the element would require in order to fit all the content in the viewport without using a vertical scrollbar. The height is measured in the same way as clientHeight: it includes the element's padding, but not its border, margin or horizontal scrollbar.

Same is the case for all of these with width instead of height.

How to set an environment variable only for the duration of the script?

Just put

export HOME=/blah/whatever

at the point in the script where you want the change to happen. Since each process has its own set of environment variables, this definition will automatically cease to have any significance when the script terminates (and with it the instance of bash that has a changed environment).

Unit testing with Spring Security

Authentication is a property of a thread in server environment in the same way as it is a property of a process in OS. Having a bean instance for accessing authentication information would be inconvenient configuration and wiring overhead without any benefit.

Regarding test authentication there are several ways how you can make your life easier. My favourite is to make a custom annotation @Authenticated and test execution listener, which manages it. Check DirtiesContextTestExecutionListener for inspiration.

MySQL - Cannot add or update a child row: a foreign key constraint fails

I've faced this issue and the solution was making sure that all the data from the child field are matching the parent field

for example, you want to add foreign key inside (attendance) table to the column (employeeName)

where the parent is (employees) table, (employeeName) column

all the data in attendance.employeeName must be matching employee.employeeName

Using JAXB to unmarshal/marshal a List<String>

From a personal blog post, it is not necessary to create a specific JaxbList < T > object.

Assuming an object with a list of strings:

@XmlRootElement
public class ObjectWithList {

    private List<String> list;

    @XmlElementWrapper(name="MyList")
    @XmlElement
    public List<String> getList() {
        return list;
    }

    public void setList(List<String> list) {
        this.list = list;
    }

}

A JAXB round trip:

public static void simpleExample() throws JAXBException {

    List<String> l = new ArrayList<String>();
    l.add("Somewhere");
    l.add("This and that");
    l.add("Something");

    // Object with list
    ObjectWithList owl = new ObjectWithList();
    owl.setList(l);

    JAXBContext jc = JAXBContext.newInstance(ObjectWithList.class);
    ObjectWithList retr = marshallUnmarshall(owl, jc);

    for (String s : retr.getList()) {
        System.out.println(s);
    } System.out.println(" ");

}

Produces the following:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?>
<objectWithList>
    <MyList>
        <list>Somewhere</list>
        <list>This and that</list>
        <list>Something</list>
    </MyList>
</objectWithList>

How to reset db in Django? I get a command 'reset' not found error

How to use Selenium with Python?

You mean Selenium WebDriver? Huh....

Prerequisite: Install Python based on your OS

Install with following command

pip install -U selenium

And use this module in your code

from selenium import webdriver

You can also use many of the following as required

from selenium.webdriver.common.by import By
from selenium.webdriver.support.ui import Select
from selenium.common.exceptions import NoSuchElementException

Here is an updated answer

I would recommend you to run script without IDE... Here is my approach

  1. USE IDE to find xpath of object / element
  2. And use find_element_by_xpath().click()

An example below shows login page automation

#ScriptName : Login.py
#---------------------
from selenium import webdriver

#Following are optional required
from selenium.webdriver.common.by import By
from selenium.webdriver.support.ui import Select
from selenium.common.exceptions import NoSuchElementException

baseurl = "http://www.mywebsite.com/login.php"
username = "admin"
password = "admin"

xpaths = { 'usernameTxtBox' : "//input[@name='username']",
           'passwordTxtBox' : "//input[@name='password']",
           'submitButton' :   "//input[@name='login']"
         }

mydriver = webdriver.Firefox()
mydriver.get(baseurl)
mydriver.maximize_window()

#Clear Username TextBox if already allowed "Remember Me"
mydriver.find_element_by_xpath(xpaths['usernameTxtBox']).clear()

#Write Username in Username TextBox
mydriver.find_element_by_xpath(xpaths['usernameTxtBox']).send_keys(username)

#Clear Password TextBox if already allowed "Remember Me"
mydriver.find_element_by_xpath(xpaths['passwordTxtBox']).clear()

#Write Password in password TextBox
mydriver.find_element_by_xpath(xpaths['passwordTxtBox']).send_keys(password)

#Click Login button
mydriver.find_element_by_xpath(xpaths['submitButton']).click()

There is an another way that you can find xpath of any object -

  1. Install Firebug and Firepath addons in firefox
  2. Open URL in Firefox
  3. Press F12 to open Firepath developer instance
  4. Select Firepath in below browser pane and chose select by "xpath"
  5. Move cursor of the mouse to element on webpage
  6. in the xpath textbox you will get xpath of an object/element.
  7. Copy Paste xpath to the script.

Run script -

python Login.py

You can also use a CSS selector instead of xpath. CSS selectors are slightly faster than xpath in most cases, and are usually preferred over xpath (if there isn't an ID attribute on the elements you're interacting with).

Firepath can also capture the object's locator as a CSS selector if you move your cursor to the object. You'll have to update your code to use the equivalent find by CSS selector method instead -

find_element_by_css_selector(css_selector)

CSS3 Rotate Animation

if you want to flip image you can use it.

.image{
    width: 100%;
    -webkit-animation:spin 3s linear infinite;
    -moz-animation:spin 3s linear infinite;
    animation:spin 3s linear infinite;
}
@-moz-keyframes spin { 50% { -moz-transform: rotateY(90deg); } }
@-webkit-keyframes spin { 50% { -webkit-transform: rotateY(90deg); } }
@keyframes spin { 50% { -webkit-transform: rotateY(90deg); transform:rotateY(90deg); } }

C# Creating an array of arrays

I think you may be looking for Jagged Arrays, which are different from multi-dimensional arrays (as you are using in your example) in C#. Converting the arrays in your declarations to jagged arrays should make it work. However, you'll still need to use two loops to iterate over all the items in the 2D jagged array.

Can I run multiple versions of Google Chrome on the same machine? (Mac or Windows)

Though this seems to be an old question with many answers I'm posting another one, because it provides information about another approaches (looking more convenient than already mentioned), and the question itself remains actual.

First, there is a blogpost Running multiple versions of Google Chrome on Windows. It describes a method which works, but has 2 drawbacks:

  • you can't run Chrome instances of different versions simultaneously;
  • from time to time, Chrome changes format of its profile, and as long as 2 versions installed by this method share the same directory with profiles, this may produce a problem if it's happened to test 2 versions with incompatible profile formats;

Second method is a preferred one, which I'm currently using. It relies on portable versions of Chrome, which become available for every stable release at the portableapps.com.

The only requirement of this method is that existing Chrome version should not run during installation of a next version. Of course, each version must be installed in a separate directory. This way, after installation, you can run Chromes of different versions in parallel. Of course, there is a drawback in this method as well:

  • profiles in all versions live separately, so if you need to setup a profile in a specific way, you should do it twice or more times, according to the number of different Chrome versions you have installed.

Error:could not create the Java Virtual Machine Error:A fatal exception has occured.Program will exit

--version is a valid option from JDK 9 and it is not a valid option until JDK 8 hence you get the below:

Unrecognized option: --version
Error: Could not create the Java Virtual Machine.
Error: A fatal exception has occurred. Program will exit.

You can try installing JDK 9 or any version later and check for java --version it will work.

Alternately, from the installed JDK 9 or later versions you can see from java -help the below two options will be available:

    -version print product version to the error stream and exit
    --version print product version to the output stream and exit

where as in JDK 8 you will only have below when you execute java -help

    -version print product version and exit

I hope it answers your question.

Max value of Xmx and Xms in Eclipse?

I am guessing you are using a 32 bit eclipse with 32 bit JVM. It wont allow heapsize above what you have specified.

Using a 64-bit Eclipse with a 64-bit JVM helps you to start up eclipse with much larger memory. (I am starting with -Xms1024m -Xmx4000m)

Getting the base url of the website and globally passing it to twig in Symfony 2

You can use the new request method getSchemeAndHttpHost():

{{ app.request.getSchemeAndHttpHost() }}

Why do you need to put #!/bin/bash at the beginning of a script file?

It's called a shebang. In unix-speak, # is called sharp (like in music) or hash (like hashtags on twitter), and ! is called bang. (You can actually reference your previous shell command with !!, called bang-bang). So when put together, you get haSH-BANG, or shebang.

The part after the #! tells Unix what program to use to run it. If it isn't specified, it will try with bash (or sh, or zsh, or whatever your $SHELL variable is) but if it's there it will use that program. Plus, # is a comment in most languages, so the line gets ignored in the subsequent execution.
