Programs & Examples On #Profiler

A profiler is a programming tool used to track and analyse the performance of a software program.

What Are Some Good .NET Profilers?

Don't forget nProf - a prefectly good, freeware profiler.

SQL Server Profiler - How to filter trace to only display events from one database?

In the Trace properties, click the Events Selection tab at the top next to General. Then click Column Filters... at the bottom right. You can then select what to filter, such as TextData or DatabaseName.

Expand the Like node and enter your filter with the percentage % signs like %MyDatabaseName% or %TextDataToFilter%. Without the %% signs the filter will not work.

Also, make sure to check the checkbox Exclude rows that do not contain values' If you cannot find the field you are looking to filter such as DatabaseName go to the General tab and change your Template, blank one should contain all the fields.

Oracle: is there a tool to trace queries, like Profiler for sql server?

You can use The Oracle Enterprise Manager to monitor the active sessions, with the query that is being executed, its execution plan, locks, some statistics and even a progress bar for the longer tasks.

See: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/em.920/a96674/db_admin.htm#1013955

Go to Instance -> sessions and watch the SQL Tab of each session.

There are other ways. Enterprise manager just puts with pretty colors what is already available in specials views like those documented here: http://www.oracle.com/pls/db92/db92.catalog_views?remark=homepage

And, of course you can also use Explain PLAN FOR, TRACE tool and tons of other ways of instrumentalization. There are some reports in the enterprise manager for the top most expensive SQL Queries. You can also search recent queries kept on the cache.

React: Expected an assignment or function call and instead saw an expression

You must return something

instead of this (this is not the right way)

const def = (props) => { <div></div> };

try

const def = (props) => ( <div></div> );

or use return statement

const def = (props) => { return  <div></div> };

How do I copy a range of formula values and paste them to a specific range in another sheet?

You can change

Range("B3:B65536").Copy Destination:=Sheets("DB").Range("B" & lastrow)

to

Range("B3:B65536").Copy
Sheets("DB").Range("B" & lastrow).PasteSpecial xlPasteValues

BTW, if you have xls file (excel 2003), you would get an error if your lastrow would be greater 3.

Try to use this code instead:

Sub Get_Data()
    Dim lastrowDB As Long, lastrow As Long
    Dim arr1, arr2, i As Integer

    With Sheets("DB")
        lastrowDB = .Cells(.Rows.Count, "A").End(xlUp).Row + 1
    End With

    arr1 = Array("B", "C", "D", "E", "F", "AH", "AI", "AJ", "J", "P", "AF")
    arr2 = Array("B", "A", "C", "P", "D", "E", "G", "F", "H", "I", "J")

    For i = LBound(arr1) To UBound(arr1)
        With Sheets("Sheet1")
             lastrow = Application.Max(3, .Cells(.Rows.Count, arr1(i)).End(xlUp).Row)
             .Range(.Cells(3, arr1(i)), .Cells(lastrow, arr1(i))).Copy
             Sheets("DB").Range(arr2(i) & lastrowDB).PasteSpecial xlPasteValues
        End With
    Next
    Application.CutCopyMode = False
End Sub

Note, above code determines last non empty row on DB sheet in column A (variable lastrowDB). If you need to find lastrow for each destination column in DB sheet, use next modification:

For i = LBound(arr1) To UBound(arr1)
   With Sheets("DB")
       lastrowDB = .Cells(.Rows.Count, arr2(i)).End(xlUp).Row + 1
   End With

   ' NEXT CODE

Next

You could also use next approach instead Copy/PasteSpecial. Replace

.Range(.Cells(3, arr1(i)), .Cells(lastrow, arr1(i))).Copy
Sheets("DB").Range(arr2(i) & lastrowDB).PasteSpecial xlPasteValues

with

Sheets("DB").Range(arr2(i) & lastrowDB).Resize(lastrow - 2).Value = _
      .Range(.Cells(3, arr1(i)), .Cells(lastrow, arr1(i))).Value

Set database timeout in Entity Framework

Try this on your context:

public class MyDatabase : DbContext
{
    public MyDatabase ()
        : base(ContextHelper.CreateConnection("Connection string"), true)
    {
        ((IObjectContextAdapter)this).ObjectContext.CommandTimeout = 180; // seconds
    }
}

If you want to define the timeout in the connection string, use the Connection Timeout parameter like in the following connection string:

<connectionStrings>

<add name="AdventureWorksEntities"
connectionString="metadata=.\AdventureWorks.csdl|.\AdventureWorks.ssdl|.\AdventureWorks.msl;
provider=System.Data.SqlClient;provider connection string='Data Source=localhost;
Initial Catalog=AdventureWorks;Integrated Security=True;Connection Timeout=60;
multipleactiveresultsets=true'" providerName="System.Data.EntityClient" />

</connectionStrings>

How to use background thread in swift?

Grand Central Dispatch is used to handle multitasking in our iOS apps.

You can use this code

// Using time interval

DispatchQueue.main.asyncAfter(deadline: DispatchTime.now()+1) {
    print("Hello World")
}

// Background thread
queue.sync {
     for i in 0..<10 {
          print("Hello", i)
     }
}

// Main thread
for i in 20..<30 {
     print("Hello", i)
}

Copy table without copying data

Only want to clone the structure of table:

CREATE TABLE foo SELECT * FROM bar WHERE 1 = 2;

Also wants to copy the data:

CREATE TABLE foo as SELECT * FROM bar;

static files with express.js

In the newest version of express the "createServer" is deprecated. This example works for me:

var express = require('express');
var app = express();
var path = require('path');

//app.use(express.static(__dirname)); // Current directory is root
app.use(express.static(path.join(__dirname, 'public'))); // "public" off of current is root

app.listen(80);
console.log('Listening on port 80');

Timeout jQuery effects

You can do something like this:

$('.notice')
    .fadeIn()
    .animate({opacity: '+=0'}, 2000)   // Does nothing for 2000ms
    .fadeOut('fast');

Sadly, you can't just do .animate({}, 2000) -- I think this is a bug, and will report it.

How to store phone numbers on MySQL databases?

I would suggest a varchar for the phone number (since phone numbers are known to have leading 0s which are important to keep) and having the phone number in two fields:

Country Code and phone number i.e. for 004477789787 you could store CountryCode=44 and phone number=77789787

however it could be very application specific. If for example you will only store US numbers and want to keep the capability of quickly performing queries like "Get all the numbers from a specific area" then you can further split the phone number field (and drop the country code field as it would be redundant)

I don't think there is a general right and wrong way to do this. It really depends on the demands.

pointer to array c++

j[0]; dereferences a pointer to int, so its type is int.

(*j)[0] has no type. *j dereferences a pointer to an int, so it returns an int, and (*j)[0] attempts to dereference an int. It's like attempting int x = 8; x[0];.

Write in body request with HttpClient

Extending your code (assuming that the XML you want to send is in xmlString) :

String xmlString = "</xml>";
DefaultHttpClient httpClient = new DefaultHttpClient();
HttpPost httpRequest = new HttpPost(this.url);
httpRequest.setHeader("Content-Type", "application/xml");
StringEntity xmlEntity = new StringEntity(xmlString);
httpRequest.setEntity(xmlEntity );
HttpResponse httpresponse = httpclient.execute(httppost);

How to make a radio button look like a toggle button

Here is the solution that works for all browsers (also IE7 and IE8; didn't check for IE6):

http://jsfiddle.net/RkvAP/230/

HTML

<div class="toggle">
    <label><input type="radio" name="toggle"><span>On</span></label>
</div>
<div class="toggle">
    <label><input type="radio" name="toggle"><span>Off</span></label>
</div>

JS

$('label').click(function(){
    $(this).children('span').addClass('input-checked');
    $(this).parent('.toggle').siblings('.toggle').children('label').children('span').removeClass('input-checked');
});

CSS

body {
    font-family:sans-serif;
}

.toggle {
    margin:4px;
    background-color:#EFEFEF;
    border-radius:4px;
    border:1px solid #D0D0D0;
    overflow:auto;
    float:left;
}

.toggle label {
    float:left;
    width:2.0em;
}

.toggle label span {
    text-align:center;
    padding:3px 0px;
    display:block;
    cursor: pointer;
}

.toggle label input {
    position:absolute;
    top:-20px;
}

.toggle .input-checked /*, .bounds input:checked + span works for firefox and ie9 but breaks js for ie8(ONLY) */ {
    background-color:#404040;
    color:#F7F7F7;
}

Makes use of minimal JS (jQuery, two lines).

How to cherry-pick from a remote branch?

This can also be easily achieved with SourceTree:

  • checkout your master branch
  • open the "Log / History" tab
  • locate the xyz commit and right click on it
  • click on "Merge..."

done :)

How to write header row with csv.DictWriter?

A few options:

(1) Laboriously make an identity-mapping (i.e. do-nothing) dict out of your fieldnames so that csv.DictWriter can convert it back to a list and pass it to a csv.writer instance.

(2) The documentation mentions "the underlying writer instance" ... so just use it (example at the end).

dw.writer.writerow(dw.fieldnames)

(3) Avoid the csv.Dictwriter overhead and do it yourself with csv.writer

Writing data:

w.writerow([d[k] for k in fieldnames])

or

w.writerow([d.get(k, restval) for k in fieldnames])

Instead of the extrasaction "functionality", I'd prefer to code it myself; that way you can report ALL "extras" with the keys and values, not just the first extra key. What is a real nuisance with DictWriter is that if you've verified the keys yourself as each dict was being built, you need to remember to use extrasaction='ignore' otherwise it's going to SLOWLY (fieldnames is a list) repeat the check:

wrong_fields = [k for k in rowdict if k not in self.fieldnames]

============

>>> f = open('csvtest.csv', 'wb')
>>> import csv
>>> fns = 'foo bar zot'.split()
>>> dw = csv.DictWriter(f, fns, restval='Huh?')
# dw.writefieldnames(fns) -- no such animal

How to convert unsigned long to string

Try using sprintf:

unsigned long x=1000000;
char buffer[21];
sprintf(buffer,"%lu", x);

Edit:

Notice that you have to allocate a buffer in advance, and have no idea how long the numbers will actually be when you do so. I'm assuming 32bit longs, which can produce numbers as big as 10 digits.

See Carl Smotricz's answer for a better explanation of the issues involved.

How to catch an Exception from a thread

Did you play around with setDefaultUncaughtExceptionHandler() and the alike methods of the Thread class? From the API: "By setting the default uncaught exception handler, an application can change the way in which uncaught exceptions are handled (such as logging to a specific device, or file) for those threads that would already accept whatever "default" behavior the system provided."

You might find the answer to your problem there... good luck! :-)

How to get the index of an item in a list in a single step?

That's all fine and good -- but what if you want to select an existing element as the default? In my issue there is no "--select a value--" option.

Here's my code -- you could make it into a one liner if you didn't want to check for no results I suppose...

private void LoadCombo(ComboBox cb, string itemType, string defVal = "")
{
    cb.DisplayMember = "Name";
    cb.ValueMember = "ItemCode";
    cb.DataSource = db.Items.Where(q => q.ItemTypeId == itemType).ToList();

    if (!string.IsNullOrEmpty(defVal))
    {
        var i = ((List<GCC_Pricing.Models.Item>)cb.DataSource).FindIndex(q => q.ItemCode == defVal);
        if (i>=0) cb.SelectedIndex = i;
    }
}

Double array initialization in Java

double m[][] declares an array of arrays, so called multidimensional array.

m[0] points to an array in the size of four, containing 0*0,1*0,2*0,3*0. Simple math shows the values are actually 0,0,0,0.

Second line is also array in the size of four, containing 0,1,2,3.

And so on...

I guess this mutiple format in you book was to show that 0*0 is row 0 column 0, 0*1 is row 0 column 1, and so on.

What is username and password when starting Spring Boot with Tomcat?

When overriding

spring.security.user.name=
spring.security.user.password=

in application.properties, you don't need " around "username", just use username. Another point, instead of storing raw password, encrypt it with bcrypt/scrypt and store it like

spring.security.user.password={bcrypt}encryptedPassword

Using If/Else on a data frame

Use ifelse:

frame$twohouses <- ifelse(frame$data>=2, 2, 1)
frame
   data twohouses
1     0         1
2     1         1
3     2         2
4     3         2
5     4         2
...
16    0         1
17    2         2
18    1         1
19    2         2
20    0         1
21    4         2

The difference between if and ifelse:

  • if is a control flow statement, taking a single logical value as an argument
  • ifelse is a vectorised function, taking vectors as all its arguments.

The help page for if, accessible via ?"if" will also point you to ?ifelse

library not found for -lPods

I ran into a similar problem today.

  1. I setup a new project
  2. I installed cocoa pods
  3. I created a new configuration Preview along with the existing Debug and Release
  4. Now when compiling on this new Preview configuration, the compiler would not be able to link with Pods and giving me this message:

    ld: library not found for -lPods

The solution:

What I had to do was to run

 pod install

again and thus configuring cocoapods for the new Preview configuration. It updated my project, the workspace and the Pod's project file and the problem disappeared

Add items in array angular 4

Yes there is a way to do it.

First declare a class.

//anyfile.ts
export class Custom
{
  name: string,
  empoloyeeID: number
}

Then in your component import the class

import {Custom} from '../path/to/anyfile.ts'
.....
export class FormComponent implements OnInit {
 name: string;
 empoloyeeID : number;
 empList: Array<Custom> = [];
 constructor() {

 }

 ngOnInit() {
 }
 onEmpCreate(){
   //console.log(this.name,this.empoloyeeID);
   let customObj = new Custom();
   customObj.name = "something";
   customObj.employeeId = 12;
   this.empList.push(customObj);
   this.name ="";
   this.empoloyeeID = 0;
 }
}

Another way would be to interfaces read the documentation once - https://www.typescriptlang.org/docs/handbook/interfaces.html

Also checkout this question, it is very interesting - When to use Interface and Model in TypeScript / Angular2

How to remove line breaks (no characters!) from the string?

It's because nl2br() doesn't remove new lines at all.

Returns string with <br /> or <br> inserted before all newlines (\r\n, \n\r, \n and \r).

Use str_replace instead:

How to make IPython notebook matplotlib plot inline

I used %matplotlib inline in the first cell of the notebook and it works. I think you should try:

%matplotlib inline

import matplotlib
import numpy as np
import matplotlib.pyplot as plt

You can also always start all your IPython kernels in inline mode by default by setting the following config options in your config files:

c.IPKernelApp.matplotlib=<CaselessStrEnum>
  Default: None
  Choices: ['auto', 'gtk', 'gtk3', 'inline', 'nbagg', 'notebook', 'osx', 'qt', 'qt4', 'qt5', 'tk', 'wx']
  Configure matplotlib for interactive use with the default matplotlib backend.

How to delete only the content of file in python

What could be easier than something like this:

import tempfile

for i in range(400):
    with tempfile.TemporaryFile() as tf:
        for j in range(1000):
            tf.write('Line {} of file {}'.format(j,i))

That creates 400 temp files and writes 1000 lines to each temp file. It executes in less than 1/2 second on my unremarkable machine. Each temp file of the total is created and deleted as the context manager opens and closes in this case. It is fast, secure, and cross platform.

Using tempfile is a lot better than trying to reinvent it.

sorting integers in order lowest to highest java

Well, if you want to do it using an algorithm. There are a plethora of sorting algorithms out there. If you aren't concerned too much about efficiency and more about readability and understandability. I recommend Insertion Sort. Here is the psudo code, it is trivial to translate this into java.

begin
    for i := 1 to length(A)-1 do
    begin
        value := A[i];
        j := i - 1;
        done := false;
        repeat
            { To sort in descending order simply reverse
              the operator i.e. A[j] < value }
            if A[j] > value then
            begin
                A[j + 1] := A[j];
                j := j - 1;
                if j < 0 then
                    done := true;
            end
            else
                done := true;
        until done;
        A[j + 1] := value;
    end;
end;

Delete all files of specific type (extension) recursively down a directory using a batch file

I wrote a batch script a while ago that allows you to pick a file extension to delete. The script will look in the folder it is in and all subfolders for any file with that extension and delete it.

@ECHO OFF
CLS

SET found=0
ECHO Enter the file extension you want to delete...
SET /p ext="> "

IF EXIST *.%ext% ( rem Check if there are any in the current folder :)
  DEL *.%ext%
  SET found=1
)
FOR /D /R %%G IN ("*") DO ( rem Iterate through all subfolders
  IF EXIST %%G CD %%G
  IF EXIST *.%ext% (
    DEL *.%ext%
    SET found=1
  )
)

IF %found%==1 (
  ECHO.
  ECHO Deleted all .%ext% files.
  ECHO.
) ELSE (
  ECHO.
  ECHO There were no .%ext% files.
  ECHO Nothing has been deleted.
  ECHO.
)

PAUSE
EXIT

Hope this comes in useful to anyone who wants it :)

  • dig - works on default and on all other DNS's dig pl.archive.ubuntu.com, dig @127.0.1.1 pl.archive.ubuntu.com
  • curl - doesn't work! but for some addresses it does. WEIRD! Same in Ruby, APT and many more.

Revelation

Eventually I used strace on curl and found that it was connection to nscd deamon.

connect(4, {sa_family=AF_LOCAL, sun_path="/var/run/nscd/socket"}, 110) = 0

Solution

I've restarted the nscd service (Name Service Cache Daemon) and it helped to solve this issue!

systemctl restart nscd.service

Check to see if python script is running

There are a myriad of options. One method is using system calls or python libraries that perform such calls for you. The other is simply to spawn out a process like:

ps ax | grep processName

and parse the output. Many people choose this approach, it isn't necessarily a bad approach in my view.

Straight from nodejs's API docs on Console

const output = fs.createWriteStream('./stdout.log');
const errorOutput = fs.createWriteStream('./stderr.log');

How do I grep for all non-ASCII characters?

You can use the command:

grep --color='auto' -P -n "[\x80-\xFF]" file.xml

This will give you the line number, and will highlight non-ascii chars in red.

In some systems, depending on your settings, the above will not work, so you can grep by the inverse

grep --color='auto' -P -n "[^\x00-\x7F]" file.xml

Note also, that the important bit is the -P flag which equates to --perl-regexp: so it will interpret your pattern as a Perl regular expression. It also says that

this is highly experimental and grep -P may warn of unimplemented features.

MessageBodyWriter not found for media type=application/json

To overcome this issue try the following. Worked for me.

  <artifactId>jersey-media-json-jackson</artifactId>
  <version>2.25</version>
</dependency>

How do I configure Maven for offline development?

Does this work for you?

http://jojovedder.blogspot.com/2009/04/running-maven-offline-using-local.html

Don't forget to add it to your plugin repository and point the url to wherever your repository is.

<repositories>
    <repository>
        <id>local</id>
        <url>file://D:\mavenrepo</url>
    </repository>
</repositories>
<pluginRepositories>
    <pluginRepository>
        <id>local</id>
        <url>file://D:\mavenrepo</url>
    </pluginRepository>
</pluginRepositories>

If not, you may need to run a local server, e.g. apache, on your machines.

Hashmap holding different data types as values for instance Integer, String and Object

If you don't have Your own Data Class, then you can design your map as follows

Map<Integer, Object> map=new HashMap<Integer, Object>();

Here don't forget to use "instanceof" operator while retrieving the values from MAP.

If you have your own Data class then then you can design your map as follows

Map<Integer, YourClassName> map=new HashMap<Integer, YourClassName>();

import java.util.Date;
import java.util.HashMap;
import java.util.Map;
import java.util.Set;

public class HashMapTest {
public static void main(String[] args) {

    Demo d2= new Demo(2,"this",new Date(),2,1);
    Demo d3= new Demo(3,"is",new Date(),3,1);
    Demo d4= new Demo(4,"mytest",new Date(),4,1);
    //adding values to map
    map.put(d1.getKey(), d1);
    map.put(d2.getKey(), d2);
    map.put(d3.getKey(), d3);
    map.put(d4.getKey(), d4);
    //retrieving values from map
    Set<Integer> keySet= map.keySet();
    for(int i:keySet){
        System.out.println(map.get(i));
    }
    //searching key on map
    System.out.println(map.containsKey(d1.getKey()));
    //searching value on map
    System.out.println(map.containsValue(d1));
}

}

    private int key;
    private String message;

First get the item height in pixels

View rowItem = adapter.getView(0, null, scrollView);
rowItem.measure(0, 0);
int heightOfItem = rowItem.getMeasuredHeight();

then simply

Display display = getWindowManager().getDefaultDisplay();
DisplayMetrics displayMetrics = new DisplayMetrics();
display.getMetrics(displayMetrics);
scrollView.getLayoutParams().height = (int)((heightOfItem * 3)*displayMetrics .density);

Can I set up HTML/Email Templates with ASP.NET?

Look at SubSonic (www.subsonicproject.com). They're doing exactly this to generate code - the template is standard ASPX, and it outputs c#. The same method would be reusable for your scenario.

Django DB Settings 'Improperly Configured' Error

You can't just fire up Python and check things, Django doesn't know what project you want to work on. You have to do one of these things:

  • Use python manage.py shell
  • Use django-admin.py shell --settings=mysite.settings (or whatever settings module you use)
  • Set DJANGO_SETTINGS_MODULE environment variable in your OS to mysite.settings
  • (This is removed in Django 1.6) Use setup_environ in the python interpreter:

    from django.core.management import setup_environ
    from mysite import settings

    setup_environ(settings)

Naturally, the first way is the easiest.

Examples of GoF Design Patterns in Java's core libraries

You can find an overview of a lot of design patterns in Wikipedia. It also mentions which patterns are mentioned by GoF. I'll sum them up here and try to assign as many pattern implementations as possible, found in both the Java SE and Java EE APIs.

Creational patterns

Abstract factory (recognizeable by creational methods returning the factory itself which in turn can be used to create another abstract/interface type)

Builder (recognizeable by creational methods returning the instance itself)

Factory method (recognizeable by creational methods returning an implementation of an abstract/interface type)

Prototype (recognizeable by creational methods returning a different instance of itself with the same properties)

Singleton (recognizeable by creational methods returning the same instance (usually of itself) everytime)

Structural patterns

Adapter (recognizeable by creational methods taking an instance of different abstract/interface type and returning an implementation of own/another abstract/interface type which decorates/overrides the given instance)

Bridge (recognizeable by creational methods taking an instance of different abstract/interface type and returning an implementation of own abstract/interface type which delegates/uses the given instance)

  • None comes to mind yet. A fictive example would be new LinkedHashMap(LinkedHashSet<K>, List<V>) which returns an unmodifiable linked map which doesn't clone the items, but uses them. The java.util.Collections#newSetFromMap() and singletonXXX() methods however comes close.

Composite (recognizeable by behavioral methods taking an instance of same abstract/interface type into a tree structure)

Decorator (recognizeable by creational methods taking an instance of same abstract/interface type which adds additional behaviour)

Facade (recognizeable by behavioral methods which internally uses instances of different independent abstract/interface types)

Flyweight (recognizeable by creational methods returning a cached instance, a bit the "multiton" idea)

Proxy (recognizeable by creational methods which returns an implementation of given abstract/interface type which in turn delegates/uses a different implementation of given abstract/interface type)

Behavioral patterns

Chain of responsibility (recognizeable by behavioral methods which (indirectly) invokes the same method in another implementation of same abstract/interface type in a queue)

Command (recognizeable by behavioral methods in an abstract/interface type which invokes a method in an implementation of a different abstract/interface type which has been encapsulated by the command implementation during its creation)

Interpreter (recognizeable by behavioral methods returning a structurally different instance/type of the given instance/type; note that parsing/formatting is not part of the pattern, determining the pattern and how to apply it is)

Iterator (recognizeable by behavioral methods sequentially returning instances of a different type from a queue)

Mediator (recognizeable by behavioral methods taking an instance of different abstract/interface type (usually using the command pattern) which delegates/uses the given instance)

Memento (recognizeable by behavioral methods which internally changes the state of the whole instance)

Observer (or Publish/Subscribe) (recognizeable by behavioral methods which invokes a method on an instance of another abstract/interface type, depending on own state)

State (recognizeable by behavioral methods which changes its behaviour depending on the instance's state which can be controlled externally)

Strategy (recognizeable by behavioral methods in an abstract/interface type which invokes a method in an implementation of a different abstract/interface type which has been passed-in as method argument into the strategy implementation)

Template method (recognizeable by behavioral methods which already have a "default" behaviour defined by an abstract type)

Visitor (recognizeable by two different abstract/interface types which has methods defined which takes each the other abstract/interface type; the one actually calls the method of the other and the other executes the desired strategy on it)

mailto link multiple body lines

You can use URL encoding to encode the newline as %0A.

mailto:[email protected]?subject=test&body=type%20your%0Amessage%20here

While the above appears to work in many cases, user olibre points out that the RFC governing the mailto URI scheme specifies that %0D%0A (carriage return + line feed) should be used instead of %0A (line feed). See also: Newline Representations.

Bloomberg BDH function with ISIN

I had the same problem. Here's what I figured out:

=BDP(A1&"@BGN Corp", "Issuer_parent_eqy_ticker")

A1 being the ISINs. This will return the ticker number. Then just use the ticker number to get the price.

What is default list styling (CSS)?

I think this is actually what you're looking for:

.my_container ul
{
    list-style: initial;
    margin: initial;
    padding: 0 0 0 40px;
}

.my_container li
{
    display: list-item;
}

OSX El Capitan: sudo pip install OSError: [Errno: 1] Operation not permitted

I fully agree with Mikko, but if you still want to do it, here is the way:

  • Restart in recovery mode (Hold cmd + R)
  • Open terminal from utilities
  • Use the command csrutil disable

TypeError: can only concatenate list (not "str") to list

I think what you want to do is add a new item to your list, so you have change the line newinv=inventory+str(add) with this one:

newinv = inventory.append(add)

What you are doing now is trying to concatenate a list with a string which is an invalid operation in Python.

However I think what you want is to add and delete items from a list, in that case your if/else block should be:

if selection=="use":
    print(inventory)
    remove=input("What do you want to use? ")
    inventory.remove(remove)
    print(inventory)

elif selection=="pickup":
    print(inventory)
    add=input("What do you want to pickup? ")
    inventory.append(add)
    print(inventory)

You don't need to build a new inventory list every time you add a new item.

Batch script: how to check for admin rights

@echo off
:start
set randname=%random%%random%%random%%random%%random%
md \windows\%randname% 2>nul
if %errorlevel%==0 (echo You're elevated!!!
goto end)
if %errorlevel%==1 (echo You're not elevated :(:(
goto end)
goto start
:end
rd \windows\%randname% 2>nul
pause >nul

I will explain the code line by line:

@echo off

Users will be annoyed with many more than 1 lines without this.

:start

Point where the program starts.

set randname=%random%%random%%random%%random%%random%

Set the filename of the directory to be created.

md \windows\%randname% 2>nul

Creates the directory on <DL>:\Windows (replace <DL> with drive letter).

if %errorlevel%==0 (echo You're elevated!!!
goto end)

If the ERRORLEVEL environment variable is zero, then echo success message.
Go to the end (don't proceed any further).

if %errorlevel%==1 (echo You're not elevated :(:(
goto end)

If ERRORLEVEL is one, echo failure message and go to the end.

goto start

In case the filename already exists, recreate the folder (otherwise the goto end command will not let this run).

:end

Specify the ending point

rd \windows\%randname% 2>nul

Remove the created directory.

pause >nul

Pause so the user can see the message.

Note: The >nul and 2>nul are filtering the output of these commands.

Delete a dictionary item if the key exists

You can use dict.pop:

 mydict.pop("key", None)

Note that if the second argument, i.e. None is not given, KeyError is raised if the key is not in the dictionary. Providing the second argument prevents the conditional exception.

compareTo with primitives -> Integer / int

If you need just logical value (as it almost always is), the following one-liner will help you:

boolean ifIntsEqual = !((Math.max(a,b) - Math.min(a, b)) > 0);

And it works even in Java 1.5+, maybe even in 1.1 (i don't have one). Please tell us, if you can test it in 1.5-.

This one will do too:

boolean ifIntsEqual = !((Math.abs(a-b)) > 0);

How to sort a data frame by date

How to unstage large number of files without deleting the content

If HEAD isn't set (i.e., you have no commits yet, but you don't want to just blow away .git because you've already set up other repo config you want to keep), you can also do

git rm -rf --cached .

to unstage everything. This is effectively the same as sehe's solution, but avoids mucking with Git internals.

ASP.NET MVC on IIS 7.5

For me on an Azure Server 2012 R2 IIS 8.5 VM with an Asp.Net MVC 5 app (bin deployed MVC 5) I had to do the following from an elevated cmd prompt even though I had 4.5 already installed:

dism /online /enable-feature /featurename:IIS-ASPNET45

Source: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2736284

I also brute force installed all IIS features with the following PowerShell:

import-module servermanager
add-windowsfeature web-server -includeallsubfeature

Source: http://www.iis.net/learn/install/installing-iis-85/installing-iis-85-on-windows-server-2012-r2

Now my app is working.

How to start automatic download of a file in Internet Explorer?

I used this, seems working and is just simple JS, no framework:

Your file should start downloading in a few seconds.
If downloading doesn't start automatically
<a id="downloadLink" href="[link to your file]">click here to get your file</a>.

<script>
    var downloadTimeout = setTimeout(function () {
        window.location = document.getElementById('downloadLink').href;
    }, 2000);
</script>

NOTE: this starts the timeout in the moment the page is loaded.

Rest-assured. Is it possible to extract value from request json?

To serialize the response into a class, define the target class

public class Result {
    public Long user_id;
}

And map response to it:

Response response = given().body(requestBody).when().post("/admin");
Result result = response.as(Result.class);

You must have Jackson or Gson in the classpath as the documentation states: http://rest-assured.googlecode.com/svn/tags/2.3.1/apidocs/com/jayway/restassured/response/ResponseBodyExtractionOptions.html#as(java.lang.Class)

Parser Error: '_Default' is not allowed here because it does not extend class 'System.Web.UI.Page' & MasterType declaration

I figured it out. The problem was that there were still some pages in the project that hadn't been converted to use "namespaces" as needed in a web application project. I guess I thought that it wouldn't compile if there were still any of those pages around, but if the page didn't reference anything from outside itself it didn't appear to squawk. So when it was saying that it didn't inherit from "System.Web.UI.Page" that was because it couldn't actually find the class "BasePage" at run time because the page itself was not in the WebApplication namespace. I went through all my pages one by one and made sure that they were properly added to the WebApplication namespace and now it not only compiles without issue, it also displays normally. yay!

what a trial converting from website to web application project can be!

Delimiters in MySQL

The DELIMITER statement changes the standard delimiter which is semicolon ( ;) to another. The delimiter is changed from the semicolon( ;) to double-slashes //.

Why do we have to change the delimiter?

Because we want to pass the stored procedure, custom functions etc. to the server as a whole rather than letting mysql tool to interpret each statement at a time.

I lose my data when the container exits

a brilliant answer here How to continue a docker which is exited from user kgs

docker start $(docker ps -a -q --filter "status=exited")
(or in this case just docker start $(docker ps -ql) 'cos you don't want to start all of them)

docker exec -it <container-id> /bin/bash

That second line is crucial. So exec is used in place of run, and not on an image but on a containerid. And you do it after the container has been started.

How does HTTP file upload work?

An HTTP message may have a body of data sent after the header lines. In a response, this is where the requested resource is returned to the client (the most common use of the message body), or perhaps explanatory text if there's an error. In a request, this is where user-entered data or uploaded files are sent to the server.

C program to check little vs. big endian

In short, yes.

Suppose we are on a 32-bit machine.

If it is little endian, the x in the memory will be something like:

       higher memory
          ----->
    +----+----+----+----+
    |0x01|0x00|0x00|0x00|
    +----+----+----+----+
    A
    |
   &x

so (char*)(&x) == 1, and *y+48 == '1'.

If it is big endian, it will be:

    +----+----+----+----+
    |0x00|0x00|0x00|0x01|
    +----+----+----+----+
    A
    |
   &x

so this one will be '0'.

How to detect if a stored procedure already exists

The cleanest way is to test for it's existence, drop it if it exists, and then recreate it. You can't embed a "create proc" statement inside an IF statement. This should do nicely:

IF OBJECT_ID('MySproc', 'P') IS NOT NULL
DROP PROC MySproc
GO

CREATE PROC MySproc
AS
BEGIN
    ...
END

Is Python faster and lighter than C++?

I think those stats show that Python is much slower and uses more memory for those benchmarks - are you sure you're reading them the right way up?

In my experience, which is mostly with writing network- and file-system-bound programs in Python, Python isn't significantly slower in any way that matters. For that kind of work, its benefits outweigh its costs.

Round up value to nearest whole number in SQL UPDATE

mysql> select ceil(10.5);
+------------+
| ceil(10.5) |
+------------+
|         11 |
+------------+

You can then do UPDATE PRODUCT SET price=CEIL(some_other_field);

PHP read and write JSON from file

You need to make the decode function return an array by passing in the true parameter.

json_decode(file_get_contents($file),true);

Create a .txt file if doesn't exist, and if it does append a new line

using(var tw = new StreamWriter(path, File.Exists(path)))
{
    tw.WriteLine(message);
}

How to check if string input is a number?

Based on inspiration from answer. I defined a function as below. Looks like its working fine. Please let me know if you find any issue

def isanumber(inp):
    try:
        val = int(inp)
        return True
    except ValueError:
        try:
            val = float(inp)
            return True
        except ValueError:
            return False

INNER JOIN vs INNER JOIN (SELECT . FROM)

Seems to be identical just in case that SQL server will not try to read data which is not required for the query, the optimizer is clever enough

It can have sense when join on complex query (i.e which have joings, groupings etc itself) then, yes, it is better to specify required fields.

But there is one more point. If the query is simple there is no difference but EVERY extra action even which is supposed to improve performance makes optimizer works harder and optimizer can fail to get the best plan in time and will run not optimal query. So extras select can be a such action which can even decrease performance

What port is used by Java RMI connection?

From the javadoc of java.rmi.registry.Registry

Therefore, a registry's remote object implementation is typically exported with a well-known address, such as with a well-known ObjID and TCP port number (default is 1099).

See more in the javadoc of java.rmi.registry.LocateRegistry.

Unicode characters in URLs

As all of these comments are true, you should note that as far as ICANN approved Arabic (Persian) and Chinese characters to be registered as Domain Name, all of the browser-making companies (Microsoft, Mozilla, Apple, etc.) have to support Unicode in URLs without any encoding, and those should be searchable by Google, etc.

So this issue will resolve ASAP.

Difference between "and" and && in Ruby?

and has lower precedence, mostly we use it as a control-flow modifier such as if:

next if widget = widgets.pop

becomes

widget = widgets.pop and next

For or:

raise "Not ready!" unless ready_to_rock?

becomes

ready_to_rock? or raise "Not ready!"

I prefer to use if but not and, because if is more intelligible, so I just ignore and and or.

Refer to "Using “and” and “or” in Ruby" for more information.

How to recover corrupted Eclipse workspace?

This thread may be a bit older, but since this still is a problem nowadays, I thought I’d propose a new solution for backing up Eclipse.

  • At http://profiles.yatta.de you can download the Yatta Eclipse Launcher. You can use it to save your Eclipse and workspace setup.

  • After installation, the Launcher will discover your existing Eclipse installations and workspaces.

  • Click the Upload & Share button (the blue one) on the right of the entry you want to back up.

(You won’t actually “share” your Eclipse or workspace with anyone. You’ll just upload a setup file with your metadata that only you have access to yourself . You could share this later, but you can also just use it as a backup).

If you do that, you’ll be able to re-setup your IDE really fast if you ever have a fragged workspace or Eclipse installation.

Show which git tag you are on?

When you check out a tag, you have what's called a "detached head". Normally, Git's HEAD commit is a pointer to the branch that you currently have checked out. However, if you check out something other than a local branch (a tag or a remote branch, for example) you have a "detached head" -- you're not really on any branch. You should not make any commits while on a detached head.

It's okay to check out a tag if you don't want to make any edits. If you're just examining the contents of files, or you want to build your project from a tag, it's okay to git checkout my_tag and work with the files, as long as you don't make any commits. If you want to start modifying files, you should create a branch based on the tag:

$ git checkout -b my_tag_branch my_tag

will create a new branch called my_tag_branch starting from my_tag. It's safe to commit changes on this branch.

I'm getting an error "invalid use of incomplete type 'class map'

I am just providing another case where you can get this error message. The solution will be the same as Adam has mentioned above. This is from a real code and I renamed the class name.

class FooReader {
  public:
     /** Constructor */
     FooReader() : d(new FooReaderPrivate(this)) { }  // will not compile here
     .......
  private:
     FooReaderPrivate* d;
};

====== In a separate file =====
class FooReaderPrivate {
  public:
     FooReaderPrivate(FooReader*) : parent(p) { }
  private:
     FooReader* parent;
};

The above will no pass the compiler and get error: invalid use of incomplete type FooReaderPrivate. You basically have to put the inline portion into the *.cpp implementation file. This is OK. What I am trying to say here is that you may have a design issue. Cross reference of two classes may be necessary some cases, but I would say it is better to avoid them at the start of the design. I would be wrong, but please comment then I will update my posting.

Can a WSDL indicate the SOAP version (1.1 or 1.2) of the web service?

SOAP 1.1 uses namespace http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/wsdl/soap/

SOAP 1.2 uses namespace http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/wsdl/soap12/

The wsdl is able to define operations under soap 1.1 and soap 1.2 at the same time in the same wsdl. Thats useful if you need to evolve your wsdl to support new functionality that requires soap 1.2 (eg. MTOM), in this case you dont need to create a new service but just evolve the original one.

Error: TypeError: $(...).dialog is not a function

I just experienced this with the line:

$('<div id="editor" />').dialogelfinder({

I got the error "dialogelfinder is not a function" because another component was inserting a call to load an older version of JQuery (1.7.2) after the newer version was loaded.

As soon as I commented out the second load, the error went away.

UITableViewCell Selected Background Color on Multiple Selection

Swift 5 - This works for me:

 func tableView(_ tableView: UITableView, didSelectRowAt indexPath: IndexPath) {

        let selectedCell:UITableViewCell = tableView.cellForRow(at: indexPath as IndexPath)!
        selectedCell.contentView.backgroundColor = .red
    }

    func tableView(_ tableView: UITableView, didDeselectRowAt indexPath: IndexPath) {

        let cellToDeSelect:UITableViewCell = tableView.cellForRow(at: indexPath as IndexPath)!
        cellToDeSelect.contentView.backgroundColor = .clear
    }

Sort divs in jQuery based on attribute 'data-sort'?

I made this into a jQuery function:

jQuery.fn.sortDivs = function sortDivs() {
    $("> div", this[0]).sort(dec_sort).appendTo(this[0]);
    function dec_sort(a, b){ return ($(b).data("sort")) < ($(a).data("sort")) ? 1 : -1; }
}

So you have a big div like "#boo" and all your little divs inside of there:

$("#boo").sortDivs();

You need the "? 1 : -1" because of a bug in Chrome, without this it won't sort more than 10 divs! http://blog.rodneyrehm.de/archives/14-Sorting-Were-Doing-It-Wrong.html

Angular.js: set element height on page load

Combining matty-j suggestion with the snippet of the question, I ended up with this code focusing on resizing the grid after the data was loaded.

The HTML:

<div ng-grid="gridOptions" class="gridStyle"></div>

The directive:

angular.module('myApp.directives', [])
    .directive('resize', function ($window) {
        return function (scope, element) {

            var w = angular.element($window);
            scope.getWindowDimensions = function () {
                return { 'h': w.height(), 'w': w.width() };
            };
            scope.$watch(scope.getWindowDimensions, function (newValue, oldValue) {

                // resize Grid to optimize height
                $('.gridStyle').height(newValue.h - 250);
            }, true);

            w.bind('resize', function () {
                scope.$apply();
            });
        }
    });

The controller:

angular.module('myApp').controller('Admin/SurveyCtrl', function ($scope, $routeParams, $location, $window, $timeout, Survey) {

    // Retrieve data from the server
    $scope.surveys = Survey.query(function(data) {

        // Trigger resize event informing elements to resize according to the height of the window.
        $timeout(function () {
            angular.element($window).resize();
        }, 0)
    });

    // Configure ng-grid.
    $scope.gridOptions = {
        data: 'surveys',
        ...
    };
}

How to use underscore.js as a template engine?

I wanted to share one more important finding.

use of <%= variable => would result in cross-site scripting vulnerability. So its more safe to use <%- variable -> instead.

We had to replace <%= with <%- to prevent cross-site scripting attacks. Not sure, whether this will it have any impact on the performance

Jquery Open in new Tab (_blank)

Setting links on the page woud require a combination of @Ravi and @ncksllvn's answers:

// Find link in $(".product-item") and set "target" attribute to "_blank".
$(this).find("a").attr("target", "_blank");

For opening the page in another window, see this question: jQuery click _blank And see this reference for window.open options for customization.

Update:

You would need something along:

$(document).ready(function() {
  $(".product-item").click(function() {
    var productLink = $(this).find("a");

    productLink.attr("target", "_blank");
    window.open(productLink.attr("href"));

    return false;
  });
});

Note the usage of .attr():

$element.attr("attribute_name") // Get value of attribute.
$element.attr("attribute_name", attribute_value)  // Set value of attribute.

Using ping in c#

Using ping in C# is achieved by using the method Ping.Send(System.Net.IPAddress), which runs a ping request to the provided (valid) IP address or URL and gets a response which is called an Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) Packet. The packet contains a header of 20 bytes which contains the response data from the server which received the ping request. The .Net framework System.Net.NetworkInformation namespace contains a class called PingReply that has properties designed to translate the ICMP response and deliver useful information about the pinged server such as:

  • IPStatus: Gets the address of the host that sends the Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) echo reply.
  • IPAddress: Gets the number of milliseconds taken to send an Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) echo request and receive the corresponding ICMP echo reply message.
  • RoundtripTime (System.Int64): Gets the options used to transmit the reply to an Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) echo request.
  • PingOptions (System.Byte[]): Gets the buffer of data received in an Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) echo reply message.

The following is a simple example using WinForms to demonstrate how ping works in c#. By providing a valid IP address in textBox1 and clicking button1, we are creating an instance of the Ping class, a local variable PingReply, and a string to store the IP or URL address. We assign PingReply to the ping Send method, then we inspect if the request was successful by comparing the status of the reply to the property IPAddress.Success status. Finally, we extract from PingReply the information we need to display for the user, which is described above.

    using System;
    using System.Net.NetworkInformation;
    using System.Windows.Forms;

    namespace PingTest1
    {
        public partial class Form1 : Form
        {
            public Form1()
            {
                InitializeComponent();
            }

            private void button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
            {
                Ping p = new Ping();
                PingReply r;
                string s;
                s = textBox1.Text;
                r = p.Send(s);

                if (r.Status == IPStatus.Success)
                {
                    lblResult.Text = "Ping to " + s.ToString() + "[" + r.Address.ToString() + "]" + " Successful"
                       + " Response delay = " + r.RoundtripTime.ToString() + " ms" + "\n";
                }
            }

            private void textBox1_Validated(object sender, EventArgs e)
            {
                if (string.IsNullOrWhiteSpace(textBox1.Text) || textBox1.Text == "")
                {
                    MessageBox.Show("Please use valid IP or web address!!");
                }
            }
        }
    }

When should I use h:outputLink instead of h:commandLink?

The <h:outputLink> renders a fullworthy HTML <a> element with the proper URL in the href attribute which fires a bookmarkable GET request. It cannot directly invoke a managed bean action method.

<h:outputLink value="destination.xhtml">link text</h:outputLink>

The <h:commandLink> renders a HTML <a> element with an onclick script which submits a (hidden) POST form and can invoke a managed bean action method. It's also required to be placed inside a <h:form>.

<h:form>
    <h:commandLink value="link text" action="destination" />
</h:form>

The ?faces-redirect=true parameter on the <h:commandLink>, which triggers a redirect after the POST (as per the Post-Redirect-Get pattern), only improves bookmarkability of the target page when the link is actually clicked (the URL won't be "one behind" anymore), but it doesn't change the href of the <a> element to be a fullworthy URL. It still remains #.

<h:form>
    <h:commandLink value="link text" action="destination?faces-redirect=true" />
</h:form>

Since JSF 2.0, there's also the <h:link> which can take a view ID (a navigation case outcome) instead of an URL. It will generate a HTML <a> element as well with the proper URL in href.

<h:link value="link text" outcome="destination" />

So, if it's for pure and bookmarkable page-to-page navigation like the SO username link, then use <h:outputLink> or <h:link>. That's also better for SEO since bots usually doesn't cipher POST forms nor JS code. Also, UX will be improved as the pages are now bookmarkable and the URL is not "one behind" anymore.

When necessary, you can do the preprocessing job in the constructor or @PostConstruct of a @RequestScoped or @ViewScoped @ManagedBean which is attached to the destination page in question. You can make use of @ManagedProperty or <f:viewParam> to set GET parameters as bean properties.

insert password into database in md5 format?

Darren Davies is partially correct in saying that you should use a salt - there are several issues with his claim that MD5 is insecure.

You've said that you have to insert the password using an Md5 hash, but that doesn't really tell us why. Is it because that's the format used when validatinb the password? Do you have control over the code which validates the password?

The thing about using a salt is that it avoids the problem where 2 users have the same password - they'll also have the same hash - not a desirable outcome. By using a diferent salt for each password then this does not arise (with very large volumes of data there is still a risk of collisions arising from 2 different passwords - but we'll ignore that for now).

So you can aither generate a random value for the salt and store that in the record too, or you could use some of the data you already hold - such as the username:

$query="INSERT INTO ptb_users (id,
        user_id,
        first_name,
        last_name,
        email )
        VALUES('NULL',
        'NULL',
        '".$firstname."',
        '".$lastname."',
        '".$email."',
        MD5('"$user_id.$password."')
        )";

(I am assuming that you've properly escaped all those strings earlier in your code)

Binding IIS Express to an IP Address

As mentioned above, edit the application host.config. An easy way to find this is run your site in VS using IIS Express. Right click the systray icon, show all applications. Choose your site, and then click on the config link at the bottom to open it.

I'd suggest adding another binding entry, and leave the initial localhost one there. This additional binding will appear in the IIS Express systray as a separate application under the site.

To avoid having to run VS as admin (lots of good reasons not to run as admin), add a netsh rule as follows (obviously replacing the IP and port with your values) - you'll need an admin cmd.exe for this, it only needs to be run once:

netsh http add urlacl url=http://192.168.1.121:51652/ user=\Everyone

netsh can add rules like url=http://+:51652/ but I failed to get this to place nicely with IIS Express. You can use netsh http show urlacl to list existing rules, and they can be deleted with netsh http delete urlacl url=blah.

How can I divide two integers stored in variables in Python?

The 1./2 syntax works because 1. is a float. It's the same as 1.0. The dot isn't a special operator that makes something a float. So, you need to either turn one (or both) of the operands into floats some other way -- for example by using float() on them, or by changing however they were calculated to use floats -- or turn on "true division", by using from __future__ import division at the top of the module.

Here's the nicer (IMO) Swifty/Cocoa style syntax to achieve the same result as the other answers:

Or you could grab the popular Async Swift library for even less code and more functionality:

Async.main {

Why use 'virtual' for class properties in Entity Framework model definitions?

In the context of EF, marking a property as virtual allows EF to use lazy loading to load it. For lazy loading to work EF has to create a proxy object that overrides your virtual properties with an implementation that loads the referenced entity when it is first accessed. If you don't mark the property as virtual then lazy loading won't work with it.

Does file_get_contents() have a timeout setting?

As @diyism mentioned, "default_socket_timeout, stream_set_timeout, and stream_context_create timeout are all the timeout of every line read/write, not the whole connection timeout." And the top answer by @stewe has failed me.

As an alternative to using file_get_contents, you can always use curl with a timeout.

So here's a working code that works for calling links.

$url='http://example.com/';
$ch=curl_init();
$timeout=5;

curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_URL, $url);
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, 1);
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_TIMEOUT, $timeout);
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_CONNECTTIMEOUT, $timeout);

$result=curl_exec($ch);
curl_close($ch);
echo $result;

How to get mouse position in jQuery without mouse-events?

Moreover, mousemove events are not triggered if you perform drag'n'drop over a browser window. To track mouse coordinates during drag'n'drop you should attach handler for document.ondragover event and use it's originalEvent property.

Example:

var globalDragOver = function (e)
{
    var original = e.originalEvent;
    if (original)
    {
        window.x = original.pageX;
        window.y = original.pageY;
    }
}

What is a file with extension .a?

.a files are static libraries typically generated by the archive tool. You usually include the header files associated with that static library and then link to the library when you are compiling.

SQL ON DELETE CASCADE, Which Way Does the Deletion Occur?

Cascade will work when you delete something on table Courses. Any record on table BookCourses that has reference to table Courses will be deleted automatically.

But when you try to delete on table BookCourses only the table itself is affected and not on the Courses

follow-up question: why do you have CourseID on table Category?

Maybe you should restructure your schema into this,

CREATE TABLE Categories
(
  Code CHAR(4) NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY,
  CategoryName VARCHAR(63) NOT NULL UNIQUE
);

CREATE TABLE Courses
(
  CourseID INT NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY,
  BookID INT NOT NULL,
  CatCode CHAR(4) NOT NULL,
  CourseNum CHAR(3) NOT NULL,
  CourseSec CHAR(1) NOT NULL,
);

ALTER TABLE Courses
ADD FOREIGN KEY (CatCode)
REFERENCES Categories(Code)
ON DELETE CASCADE;

How to render string with html tags in Angular 4+?

Use one way flow syntax property binding:

From angular docs: "Angular recognizes the value as unsafe and automatically sanitizes it, which removes the <script> tag but keeps safe content such as the <b> element."

How do you change video src using jQuery?

The easiest way is using autoplay.

<video autoplay></video>

When you change src through javascript you don't need to mention load().

Read contents of a local file into a variable in Rails

Answering my own question here... turns out it's a Windows only quirk that happens when reading binary files (in my case a JPEG) that requires an additional flag in the open or File.open function call. I revised it to open("/path/to/file", 'rb') {|io| a = a + io.read} and all was fine.

shell script. how to extract string using regular expressions

Using bash regular expressions:

re="http://([^/]+)/"
if [[ $name =~ $re ]]; then echo ${BASH_REMATCH[1]}; fi

Edit - OP asked for explanation of syntax. Regular expression syntax is a large topic which I can't explain in full here, but I will attempt to explain enough to understand the example.

re="http://([^/]+)/"

This is the regular expression stored in a bash variable, re - i.e. what you want your input string to match, and hopefully extract a substring. Breaking it down:

  • http:// is just a string - the input string must contain this substring for the regular expression to match
  • [] Normally square brackets are used say "match any character within the brackets". So c[ao]t would match both "cat" and "cot". The ^ character within the [] modifies this to say "match any character except those within the square brackets. So in this case [^/] will match any character apart from "/".
  • The square bracket expression will only match one character. Adding a + to the end of it says "match 1 or more of the preceding sub-expression". So [^/]+ matches 1 or more of the set of all characters, excluding "/".
  • Putting () parentheses around a subexpression says that you want to save whatever matched that subexpression for later processing. If the language you are using supports this, it will provide some mechanism to retrieve these submatches. For bash, it is the BASH_REMATCH array.
  • Finally we do an exact match on "/" to make sure we match all the way to end of the fully qualified domain name and the following "/"

Next, we have to test the input string against the regular expression to see if it matches. We can use a bash conditional to do that:

if [[ $name =~ $re ]]; then
    echo ${BASH_REMATCH[1]}
fi

In bash, the [[ ]] specify an extended conditional test, and may contain the =~ bash regular expression operator. In this case we test whether the input string $name matches the regular expression $re. If it does match, then due to the construction of the regular expression, we are guaranteed that we will have a submatch (from the parentheses ()), and we can access it using the BASH_REMATCH array:

  • Element 0 of this array ${BASH_REMATCH[0]} will be the entire string matched by the regular expression, i.e. "http://www.google.com/".
  • Subsequent elements of this array will be subsequent results of submatches. Note you can have multiple submatch () within a regular expression - The BASH_REMATCH elements will correspond to these in order. So in this case ${BASH_REMATCH[1]} will contain "www.google.com", which I think is the string you want.

Note that the contents of the BASH_REMATCH array only apply to the last time the regular expression =~ operator was used. So if you go on to do more regular expression matches, you must save the contents you need from this array each time.

This may seem like a lengthy description, but I have really glossed over several of the intricacies of regular expressions. They can be quite powerful, and I believe with decent performance, but the regular expression syntax is complex. Also regular expression implementations vary, so different languages will support different features and may have subtle differences in syntax. In particular escaping of characters within a regular expression can be a thorny issue, especially when those characters would have an otherwise different meaning in the given language.

Note that instead of setting the $re variable on a separate line and referring to this variable in the condition, you can put the regular expression directly into the condition. However in bash 3.2, the rules were changed regarding whether quotes around such literal regular expressions are required or not. Putting the regular expression in a separate variable is a straightforward way around this, so that the condition works as expected in all bash versions that support the =~ match operator.

How can I add a PHP page to WordPress?

Just create a page-mytitle.php file to the folder of the current theme, and from the Dashboard a page "mytitle".

Then when you invoke the page by the URL you are going to see the page-mytitle.php. You must add HTML, CSS, JavaScript, wp-loop, etc. to this PHP file (page-mytitle.php).

Android replace the current fragment with another fragment

You can try below code. it’s very easy method for push new fragment from old fragment.

private int mContainerId;
private FragmentTransaction fragmentTransaction;
private FragmentManager fragmentManager;
private final static String TAG = "DashBoardActivity";

public void replaceFragment(Fragment fragment, String TAG) {

    try {
        fragmentTransaction = fragmentManager.beginTransaction();
        fragmentTransaction.replace(mContainerId, fragment, tag);
        fragmentTransaction.addToBackStack(tag);
        fragmentTransaction.commitAllowingStateLoss();

    } catch (Exception e) {
        // TODO: handle exception

Apply a theme to an activity in Android?

You can apply a theme to any activity by including android:theme inside <activity> inside manifest file.

For example:

  1. <activity android:theme="@android:style/Theme.Dialog">
  2. <activity android:theme="@style/CustomTheme">

And if you want to set theme programatically then use setTheme() before calling setContentView() and super.onCreate() method inside onCreate() method.

How do I iterate over the words of a string?

I like to use the boost/regex methods for this task since they provide maximum flexibility for specifying the splitting criteria.

#include <iostream>
#include <string>
#include <boost/regex.hpp>

int main() {
    std::string line("A:::line::to:split");
    const boost::regex re(":+"); // one or more colons

    // -1 means find inverse matches aka split
    boost::sregex_token_iterator tokens(line.begin(),line.end(),re,-1);
    boost::sregex_token_iterator end;

    for (; tokens != end; ++tokens)
        std::cout << *tokens << std::endl;
}

How do I set hostname in docker-compose?

As of docker-compose version 3 and later, you can just use the hostname key:

Most efficient way to concatenate strings in JavaScript?

I wonder why String.prototype.concat is not getting any love. In my tests (assuming you already have an array of strings), it outperforms all other methods.

perf.link test

Test code:

const numStrings = 100;
const strings = [...new Array(numStrings)].map(() => Math.random().toString(36).substring(6));

const concatReduce = (strs) => strs.reduce((a, b) => a + b);

const concatLoop = (strs) => {
  let result = ''
  for (let i = 0; i < strings.length; i++) {
    result += strings[i];
  }
  return result;
}

// Case 1: 52,570 ops/s
concatLoop(strings);

// Case 2: 96,450 ops/s
concatReduce(strings)

// Case 3: 138,020 ops/s
strings.join('')

// Case 4: 169,520 ops/s
''.concat(...strings)

jquery onclick change css background image

I think this should be:

$('.home').click(function() {
     $(this).css('background', 'url(images/tabs3.png)');

and remove this:

<div class="home" onclick="function()">
     //-----------^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^---------no need for this

You have to make sure you have a correct path to your image.

Is there a way to create and run javascript in Chrome?

How to create a Javascript Bookmark in Chrome:

You can use a Javascript bookmark: https://helloacm.com/how-to-write-chrome-bookmark-scripts-step-by-step-tutorial-with-a-steemit-example/. Just create a bookmark to look like this:

Ex:

Name:

Test javascript bookmark in Chrome

URL:

javascript:alert('Hello world!');

Just precede the URL with javascript:, followed by your Javascript code. No space after the colon is required.

Here's how it looks as I'm typing it in:

enter image description here

Now save and then click on your newly-created Javascript bookmark, and you'll see this:

enter image description here

You can do multi-line scripts too. If you include any comments, however, be sure to use the C-style multi-line comments ONLY (/* comment */), and NOT the C++-style single-line comments (// comment), as they will interfere. Here's an example:

URL:

javascript:

/* This is my javascript demo */

function multiply(a, b)
{
    return a * b;
}

var a = 1.4108;
var b = 3.7654;
var result = multiply(a, b);
alert('The result of ' + a + ' x ' + b + ' = ' + result.toFixed(4));

And here's what it looks like as you edit the bookmark, after copying and pasting the above multi-line script into the URL field for the bookmark:

enter image description here.

And here's the output when you click on it:

enter image description here

Disable Input fields in reactive form

The best solution is here:

https://netbasal.com/disabling-form-controls-when-working-with-reactive-forms-in-angular-549dd7b42110

Outline of solution (in case of broken link):

(1) Create a directive

import { NgControl } from '@angular/forms';

@Directive({selector: '[disableControl]'})
export class DisableControlDirective {

  @Input() set disableControl( condition : boolean ) {
    const action = condition ? 'disable' : 'enable';
    this.ngControl.control[action]();
  }

  constructor( private ngControl : NgControl ) {}
}

(2) Use it like so

<input [formControl]="formControl" [disableControl]="condition">

(3) Since disabled inputs do not show in form.value on submit you may need to use the following instead (if required):

onSubmit(form) {
  const formValue = form.getRawValue() // gets form.value including disabled controls
  console.log(formValue)
}

Binding a Button's visibility to a bool value in ViewModel

Assuming AdvancedFormat is a bool, you need to declare and use a BooleanToVisibilityConverter:

<!-- In your resources section of the XAML -->
<BooleanToVisibilityConverter x:Key="BoolToVis" />

<!-- In your Button declaration -->
<Button
 Height="50" Width="50"
 Style="{StaticResource MyButtonStyle}"
 Command="{Binding SmallDisp}" CommandParameter="{Binding}"
Cursor="Hand" Visibility="{Binding Path=AdvancedFormat, Converter={StaticResource BoolToVis}}"/>

Note the added Converter={StaticResource BoolToVis}.

This is a very common pattern when working with MVVM. In theory you could do the conversion yourself on the ViewModel property (i.e. just make the property itself of type Visibility) though I would prefer not to do that, since now you are messing with the separation of concerns. An item's visbility should really be up to the View.

How to get a value of an element by name instead of ID

$('[name=whatever]').val()

The jQuery documentation is your friend.

How to get the date from jQuery UI datepicker

Sometimes a lot of troubles with it. In attribute value of datapicker data is 28-06-2014, but datepicker is show or today or nothing. I decided it in a such way:

<input type="text" class="form-control datepicker" data-value="<?= date('d-m-Y', (!$event->date ? time() : $event->date)) ?>" value="<?= date('d-m-Y', (!$event->date ? time() : $event->date)) ?>" />

I added to the input of datapicker attribute data-value, because if call jQuery(this).val() OR jQuery(this).attr('value') - nothing works. I decided init in cycle each datapicker and take its value from attribute data-value:

 $("form .datepicker").each(function() {
        var time = jQuery(this).data('value');
        time = time.split('-');
        $(this).datepicker('setDate', new Date(time[2], time[1], time[0], 0, 0, 0));
    });

and it is works fine =)

Pattern matching using a wildcard

glob2rx() converts a pattern including a wildcard into the equivalent regular expression. You then need to pass this regular expression onto one of R's pattern matching tools.

If you want to match "blue*" where * has the usual wildcard, not regular expression, meaning we use glob2rx() to convert the wildcard pattern into a useful regular expression:

> glob2rx("blue*")
[1] "^blue"

The returned object is a regular expression.

Given your data:

x <- c('red','blue1','blue2', 'red2')

we can pattern match using grep() or similar tools:

> grx <- glob2rx("blue*")
> grep(grx, x)
[1] 2 3
> grep(grx, x, value = TRUE)
[1] "blue1" "blue2"
> grepl(grx, x)
[1] FALSE  TRUE  TRUE FALSE

As for the selecting rows problem you posted

> a <- data.frame(x =  c('red','blue1','blue2', 'red2'))
> with(a, a[grepl(grx, x), ])
[1] blue1 blue2
Levels: blue1 blue2 red red2
> with(a, a[grep(grx, x), ])
[1] blue1 blue2
Levels: blue1 blue2 red red2

or via subset():

> with(a, subset(a, subset = grepl(grx, x)))
      x
2 blue1
3 blue2

Hope that explains what grob2rx() does and how to use it?

What's the difference between "&nbsp;" and " "?

One is non-breaking space and the other is a regular space. A non-breaking space means that the line should not be wrapped at that point, just like it wouldn’t be wrapped in the middle of a word.

Furthermore as Svend points out in his comment, non-breaking spaces are not collapsed.

How to search file text for a pattern and replace it with a given value

Here's a solution for find/replace in all files of a given directory. Basically I took the answer provided by sepp2k and expanded it.

# First set the files to search/replace in
files = Dir.glob("/PATH/*")

# Then set the variables for find/replace
@original_string_or_regex = /REGEX/
@replacement_string = "STRING"

files.each do |file_name|
  text = File.read(file_name)
  replace = text.gsub!(@original_string_or_regex, @replacement_string)
  File.open(file_name, "w") { |file| file.puts replace }
end

UIView touch event in controller

Updating @Crashalot's answer for Swift 3.x:

Update only specific fields in a models.Model

To update a subset of fields, you can use update_fields:

survey.save(update_fields=["active"])

Survey.objects.filter(pk=survey.pk).update(active=True)

How to select data where a field has a min value in MySQL?

This is how I would do it (assuming I understand the question)

SELECT * FROM pieces ORDER BY price ASC LIMIT 1

If you are trying to select multiple rows where each of them may have the same price (which is the minimum) then @JohnWoo's answer should suffice.

Basically here we are just ordering the results by the price in ASCending order (increasing) and taking the first row of the result.

Java JDBC - How to connect to Oracle using Service Name instead of SID

Root user/sudo equivalent in Cygwin?

I met this discussion looking for some details on the sudo implementation in different operating systems. Reading it I found that the solution by @brian-white (https://stackoverflow.com/a/42956057/3627676) is useful but can be improved slightly. I avoided creating the temporary file and implemented to execute everything by the single script.

Also I investigated the next step of the improvement to output within the single window/console. Unfortunately, without any success. I tried to use named pipes to capture STDOUT/STDERR and print in the main window. But child process didn't write to named pipes. However writing to a regular file works well.

I dropped any attempts to find the root cause and left the current solution as is. Hope my post can be useful as well.

Improvements:

  • no temporary file
  • no parsing and reconstructing the command line options
  • wait the elevated command
  • use mintty or bash, if the first one not found
  • return the command exit code

    #!/bin/bash

    # Being Administrators, invoke the command directly
    id -G | grep -qw 544 && {
        "$@"
        exit $?
    }

    # The CYG_SUDO variable is used to control the command invocation
    [ -z "$CYG_SUDO" ] && {
        mintty="$( which mintty 2>/dev/null )"
        export CYG_SUDO="$$"
        cygstart --wait --action=runas $mintty /bin/bash "$0" "$@"
        exit $?
    }

    # Now we are able to:
    # -- launch the command
    # -- display the message
    # -- return the exit code
    "$@"
    RETVAL=$?

    echo "$0: Press to close window..."
    read

I prefer the latter.

How to install a PHP IDE plugin for Eclipse directly from the Eclipse environment?

MySQL foreign key constraints, cascade delete

I think (I'm not certain) that foreign key constraints won't do precisely what you want given your table design. Perhaps the best thing to do is to define a stored procedure that will delete a category the way you want, and then call that procedure whenever you want to delete a category.

CREATE PROCEDURE `DeleteCategory` (IN category_ID INT)
LANGUAGE SQL
NOT DETERMINISTIC
MODIFIES SQL DATA
SQL SECURITY DEFINER
BEGIN

DELETE FROM
    `products`
WHERE
    `id` IN (
        SELECT `products_id`
        FROM `categories_products`
        WHERE `categories_id` = category_ID
    )
;

DELETE FROM `categories`
WHERE `id` = category_ID;

END

You also need to add the following foreign key constraints to the linking table:

ALTER TABLE `categories_products` ADD
    CONSTRAINT `Constr_categoriesproducts_categories_fk`
    FOREIGN KEY `categories_fk` (`categories_id`) REFERENCES `categories` (`id`)
    ON DELETE CASCADE ON UPDATE CASCADE,
    CONSTRAINT `Constr_categoriesproducts_products_fk`
    FOREIGN KEY `products_fk` (`products_id`) REFERENCES `products` (`id`)
    ON DELETE CASCADE ON UPDATE CASCADE

The CONSTRAINT clause can, of course, also appear in the CREATE TABLE statement.

Having created these schema objects, you can delete a category and get the behaviour you want by issuing CALL DeleteCategory(category_ID) (where category_ID is the category to be deleted), and it will behave how you want. But don't issue a normal DELETE FROM query, unless you want more standard behaviour (i.e. delete from the linking table only, and leave the products table alone).

JavaScript: Create and destroy class instance through class method

No. JavaScript is automatically garbage collected; the object's memory will be reclaimed only if the GC decides to run and the object is eligible for collection.

Regular expression negative lookahead

If you revise your regular expression like this:

drupal-6.14/(?=sites(?!/all|/default)).*
             ^^

...then it will match all inputs that contain drupal-6.14/ followed by sites followed by anything other than /all or /default. For example:

drupal-6.14/sites/foo
drupal-6.14/sites/bar
drupal-6.14/sitesfoo42
drupal-6.14/sitesall

Changing ?= to ?! to match your original regex simply negates those matches:

drupal-6.14/(?!sites(?!/all|/default)).*
             ^^

So, this simply means that drupal-6.14/ now cannot be followed by sites followed by anything other than /all or /default. So now, these inputs will satisfy the regex:

drupal-6.14/sites/all
drupal-6.14/sites/default
drupal-6.14/sites/all42

But, what may not be obvious from some of the other answers (and possibly your question) is that your regex will also permit other inputs where drupal-6.14/ is followed by anything other than sites as well. For example:

drupal-6.14/foo
drupal-6.14/xsites

Conclusion: So, your regex basically says to include all subdirectories of drupal-6.14 except those subdirectories of sites whose name begins with anything other than all or default.

JS regex: replace all digits in string

Use

s.replace(/\d/g, "X")

which will replace all occurrences. The g means global match and thus will not stop matching after the first occurrence.

Or to stay with your RegExp constructor:

s.replace(new RegExp("\\d", "g"), "X")

SOAP-ERROR: Parsing WSDL: Couldn't load from - but works on WAMP

I might have read all questions about this for two days. None of the answers worked for me.

In my case I was lacking cURL module for PHP.

Be aware that, just because you can use cURL on terminal, it does not mean that you have PHP cURL module and it is active. There was no error showing about it. Not even on /var/log/apache2/error.log

How to install module: (replace version number for the apropiated one)

sudo apt install php7.2-curl
sudo service apache2 reload

Insert HTML with React Variable Statements (JSX)

You don't need any special library or "dangerous" attribute. You can just use React Refs to manipulate the DOM:

class MyComponent extends React.Component {

    constructor(props) {

        super(props);
        this.divRef = React.createRef();
        this.myHTML = "<p>Hello World!</p>"
    }

    componentDidMount() {

        this.divRef.current.innerHTML = this.myHTML;
    }

    render() {

        return (

            <div ref={this.divRef}></div>
        );
    }
}

How to Force New Google Spreadsheets to refresh and recalculate?

Insert "checkbox". Every time you check or uncheck the box the sheet recalculates. If you put the text size for the checkbox at 2, the color at almost black and the cell shade to black, it becomes a button that recalculates.

Simplest way to set image as JPanel background

Get a random boolean in python?

If you want to generate a number of random booleans you could use numpy's random module. From the documentation

np.random.randint(2, size=10)

will return 10 random uniform integers in the open interval [0,2). The size keyword specifies the number of values to generate.

How can I change an element's class with JavaScript?

This is easiest with a library like jQuery:

    $("#second").toggleClass("highlight");
}

Debuggex Demo

but this does not restrict month to 1-12 and days from 1 to 31.

There are more complex checks like in the other answers, by the way pretty clever ones. Nevertheless you have to check for a valid date, because there are no checks for if a month has 28, 30, or 31 days.

What is the JSF resource library for and how should it be used?

Actually, all of those examples on the web wherein the common content/file type like "js", "css", "img", etc is been used as library name are misleading.

Real world examples

To start, let's look at how existing JSF implementations like Mojarra and MyFaces and JSF component libraries like PrimeFaces and OmniFaces use it. No one of them use resource libraries this way. They use it (under the covers, by @ResourceDependency or UIViewRoot#addComponentResource()) the following way:

<h:outputScript library="javax.faces" name="jsf.js" />
<h:outputScript library="primefaces" name="jquery/jquery.js" />
<h:outputScript library="omnifaces" name="omnifaces.js" />
<h:outputScript library="omnifaces" name="fixviewstate.js" />
<h:outputScript library="omnifaces.combined" name="[dynamicname].js" />
<h:outputStylesheet library="primefaces" name="primefaces.css" />
<h:outputStylesheet library="primefaces-aristo" name="theme.css" />
<h:outputStylesheet library="primefaces-vader" name="theme.css" />

It should become clear that it basically represents the common library/module/theme name where all of those resources commonly belong to.

Easier identifying

This way it's so much easier to specify and distinguish where those resources belong to and/or are coming from. Imagine that you happen to have a primefaces.css resource in your own webapp wherein you're overriding/finetuning some default CSS of PrimeFaces; if PrimeFaces didn't use a library name for its own primefaces.css, then the PrimeFaces own one wouldn't be loaded, but instead the webapp-supplied one, which would break the look'n'feel.

Also, when you're using a custom ResourceHandler, you can also apply more finer grained control over resources coming from a specific library when library is used the right way. If all component libraries would have used "js" for all their JS files, how would the ResourceHandler ever distinguish if it's coming from a specific component library? Examples are OmniFaces CombinedResourceHandler and GraphicResourceHandler; check the createResource() method wherein the library is checked before delegating to next resource handler in chain. This way they know when to create CombinedResource or GraphicResource for the purpose.

Noted should be that RichFaces did it wrong. It didn't use any library at all and homebrewed another resource handling layer over it and it's therefore impossible to programmatically identify RichFaces resources. That's exactly the reason why OmniFaces CombinedResourceHander had to introduce a reflection-based hack in order to get it to work anyway with RichFaces resources.

Your own webapp

Your own webapp does not necessarily need a resource library. You'd best just omit it.

<h:outputStylesheet name="css/style.css" />
<h:outputScript name="js/script.js" />
<h:graphicImage name="img/logo.png" />

Or, if you really need to have one, you can just give it a more sensible common name, like "default" or some company name.

<h:outputStylesheet library="default" name="css/style.css" />
<h:outputScript library="default" name="js/script.js" />
<h:graphicImage library="default" name="img/logo.png" />

Or, when the resources are specific to some master Facelets template, you could also give it the name of the template, so that it's easier to relate each other. In other words, it's more for self-documentary purposes. E.g. in a /WEB-INF/templates/layout.xhtml template file:

<h:outputStylesheet library="layout" name="css/style.css" />
<h:outputScript library="layout" name="js/script.js" />

And a /WEB-INF/templates/admin.xhtml template file:

<h:outputStylesheet library="admin" name="css/style.css" />
<h:outputScript library="admin" name="js/script.js" />

For a real world example, check the OmniFaces showcase source code.

Or, when you'd like to share the same resources over multiple webapps and have created a "common" project for that based on the same example as in this answer which is in turn embedded as JAR in webapp's /WEB-INF/lib, then also reference it as library (name is free to your choice; component libraries like OmniFaces and PrimeFaces also work that way):

<h:outputStylesheet library="common" name="css/style.css" />
<h:outputScript library="common" name="js/script.js" />
<h:graphicImage library="common" name="img/logo.png" />

Library versioning

Another main advantage is that you can apply resource library versioning the right way on resources provided by your own webapp (this doesn't work for resources embedded in a JAR). You can create a direct child subfolder in the library folder with a name in the \d+(_\d+)* pattern to denote the resource library version.

WebContent
 |-- resources
 |    `-- default
 |         `-- 1_0
 |              |-- css
 |              |    `-- style.css
 |              |-- img
 |              |    `-- logo.png
 |              `-- js
 |                   `-- script.js
 :

When using this markup:

<h:outputStylesheet library="default" name="css/style.css" />
<h:outputScript library="default" name="js/script.js" />
<h:graphicImage library="default" name="img/logo.png" />

This will generate the following HTML with the library version as v parameter:

<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="/contextname/javax.faces.resource/css/style.css.xhtml?ln=default&amp;v=1_0" />
<script type="text/javascript" src="/contextname/javax.faces.resource/js/script.js.xhtml?ln=default&amp;v=1_0"></script>
<img src="/contextname/javax.faces.resource/img/logo.png.xhtml?ln=default&amp;v=1_0" alt="" />

So, if you have edited/updated some resource, then all you need to do is to copy or rename the version folder into a new value. If you have multiple version folders, then the JSF ResourceHandler will automatically serve the resource from the highest version number, according to numerical ordering rules.

So, when copying/renaming resources/default/1_0/* folder into resources/default/1_1/* like follows:

WebContent
 |-- resources
 |    `-- default
 |         |-- 1_0
 |         |    :
 |         |
 |         `-- 1_1
 |              |-- css
 |              |    `-- style.css
 |              |-- img
 |              |    `-- logo.png
 |              `-- js
 |                   `-- script.js
 :

Then the last markup example would generate the following HTML:

<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="/contextname/javax.faces.resource/css/style.css.xhtml?ln=default&amp;v=1_1" />
<script type="text/javascript" src="/contextname/javax.faces.resource/js/script.js.xhtml?ln=default&amp;v=1_1"></script>
<img src="/contextname/javax.faces.resource/img/logo.png.xhtml?ln=default&amp;v=1_1" alt="" />

This will force the webbrowser to request the resource straight from the server instead of showing the one with the same name from the cache, when the URL with the changed parameter is been requested for the first time. This way the endusers aren't required to do a hard refresh (Ctrl+F5 and so on) when they need to retrieve the updated CSS/JS resource.

Please note that library versioning is not possible for resources enclosed in a JAR file. You'd need a custom ResourceHandler. See also How to use JSF versioning for resources in jar.

Invalid self signed SSL cert - "Subject Alternative Name Missing"

Here is a very simple way to create an IP certificate that Chrome will trust.

The ssl.conf file...

[ req ]
default_bits       = 4096
distinguished_name = req_distinguished_name
req_extensions     = req_ext
prompt             = no

[ req_distinguished_name ]
commonName                  = 192.168.1.10

[ req_ext ]
subjectAltName = IP:192.168.1.10

Where, of course 192.168.1.10 is the local network IP we want Chrome to trust.

Create the certificate:

openssl genrsa -out key1.pem
openssl req -new -key key1.pem -out csr1.pem -config ssl.conf
openssl x509 -req -days 9999 -in csr1.pem -signkey key1.pem -out cert1.pem -extensions req_ext -extfile ssl.conf
rm csr1.pem

On Windows import the certificate into the Trusted Root Certificate Store on all client machines. On Android Phone or Tablet download the certificate to install it. Now Chrome will trust the certificate on windows and Android.

On windows dev box the best place to get openssl.exe is from "c:\Program Files\Git\usr\bin\openssl.exe"

string comparison in batch file

Just put quotes around the Environment variable (as you have done) :
if "%DevEnvDir%" == "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\Common7\IDE\"
but it's the way you put opening bracket without a space that is confusing it.

Works for me...

C:\if "%gtk_basepath%" == "C:\Program Files\GtkSharp\2.12\" (echo yes)
yes

SQL grouping by all the columns

No because this fundamentally means that you will not be grouping anything. If you group by all columns (and have a properly defined table w/ a unique index) then SELECT * FROM table is essentially the same thing as SELECT * FROM table GROUP BY *.

How to debug a Flask app

To debug a Flask application you need to use:

server.run(
    debug=True

With form validation: why onsubmit="return functionname()" instead of onsubmit="functionname()"?

When onsubmit (or any other event) is supplied as an HTML attribute, the string value of the attribute (e.g. "return validate();") is injected as the body of the actual onsubmit handler function when the DOM object is created for the element.

Here's a brief proof in the browser console:

var p = document.createElement('p');
p.innerHTML = '<form onsubmit="return validate(); // my statement"></form>';
var form = p.childNodes[0];

console.log(typeof form.onsubmit);
// => function

console.log(form.onsubmit.toString());
// => function onsubmit(event) {
// return validate(); // my statement
//    }

So in case the return keyword is supplied in the injected statement; when the submit handler is triggered the return value received from validate function call will be passed over as the return value of the submit handler and thus take effect on controlling the submit behavior of the form.

Without the supplied return in the string, the generated onsubmit handler would not have an explicit return statement and when triggered it would return undefined (the default function return value) irrespective of whether validate() returns true or false and the form would be submitted in both cases.

What is a daemon thread in Java?

Daemon threads are like assistants. Non-Daemon threads are like front performers. Assistants help performers to complete a job. When the job is completed, no help is needed by performers to perform anymore. As no help is needed the assistants leave the place. So when the jobs of Non-Daemon threads is over, Daemon threads march away.

How to cast/convert pointer to reference in C++

Call it like this:

What determines the monitor my app runs on?

Important note: If you remember the position of your application and shutdown and then start up again at that position, keep in mind that the user's monitor configuration may have changed while your application was closed.

Laptop users, for example, frequently change their display configuration. When docked there may be a 2nd monitor that disappears when undocked. If the user closes an application that was running on the 2nd monitor and the re-opens the application when the monitor is disconnected, restoring the window to the previous coordinates will leave it completely off-screen.

To figure out how big the display really is, check out GetSystemMetrics.

How can I copy a file from a remote server to using Putty in Windows?

One of the putty tools is pscp.exe; it will allow you to copy files from your remote host.

Unicode (UTF-8) reading and writing to files in Python

In the notation

u'Capit\xe1n\n'

the "\xe1" represents just one byte. "\x" tells you that "e1" is in hexadecimal. When you write

Capit\xc3\xa1n

into your file you have "\xc3" in it. Those are 4 bytes and in your code you read them all. You can see this when you display them:

>>> open('f2').read()
'Capit\\xc3\\xa1n\n'

You can see that the backslash is escaped by a backslash. So you have four bytes in your string: "\", "x", "c" and "3".

Edit:

As others pointed out in their answers you should just enter the characters in the editor and your editor should then handle the conversion to UTF-8 and save it.

If you actually have a string in this format you can use the string_escape codec to decode it into a normal string:

In [15]: print 'Capit\\xc3\\xa1n\n'.decode('string_escape')
Capitán

The result is a string that is encoded in UTF-8 where the accented character is represented by the two bytes that were written \\xc3\\xa1 in the original string. If you want to have a unicode string you have to decode again with UTF-8.

To your edit: you don't have UTF-8 in your file. To actually see how it would look like:

s = u'Capit\xe1n\n'
sutf8 = s.encode('UTF-8')
open('utf-8.out', 'w').write(sutf8)

Compare the content of the file utf-8.out to the content of the file you saved with your editor.
