What is the garbage collector in Java?

Garbage Collection in Java (and other languages/platforms as well) is a way for the java run-time environment (JRE) to reuse memory from java objects that are no longer needed. Simplistically, when the JRE initially starts up it asks the Operating System (O/S) for a certain amount of memory. As the JRE runs your application(s) it uses that memory. When your application is done using that memory, the JRE's "Garbage Collector" comes along and reclaims that memory for use by different parts of your existing application(s). The JRE's "Garbage Collector" is a background task that is always running and tries to pick times when the system is idle to go on its garbage runs.

A real world analogy would be the garbage men that come to your house and pick up your recyclable garbage... eventually, its reused in other ways by yourself and/or other people.

There's a lot of methods here that are hard to understand but basically all update the map when it's paused etc. There are also connection timeouts etc. Sorry for just posting this, I tried to fix your code but I couldn't figure out what was wrong.

Get name of currently executing test in JUnit 4

JUnit 4 does not have any out-of-the-box mechanism for a test case to get it’s own name (including during setup and teardown).

php timeout - set_time_limit(0); - don't work

Checkout this, This is from PHP MANUAL, This may help you.

If you're using PHP_CLI SAPI and getting error "Maximum execution time of N seconds exceeded" where N is an integer value, try to call set_time_limit(0) every M seconds or every iteration. For example:

<?php

require_once('db.php');

$stmt = $db->query($sql);

while ($row = $stmt->fetchRow()) {
    set_time_limit(0);
    // your code here
}

How to create a RelativeLayout programmatically with two buttons one on top of the other?

I have written a quick example to demonstrate how to create a layout programmatically.

public class CodeLayout extends Activity {

    @Override
    public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
        super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);

        // Creating a new RelativeLayout
        RelativeLayout relativeLayout = new RelativeLayout(this);

        // Defining the RelativeLayout layout parameters.
        // In this case I want to fill its parent
        RelativeLayout.LayoutParams rlp = new RelativeLayout.LayoutParams(
                RelativeLayout.LayoutParams.FILL_PARENT,
                RelativeLayout.LayoutParams.FILL_PARENT);

        // Creating a new TextView
        TextView tv = new TextView(this);
        tv.setText("Test");

        // Defining the layout parameters of the TextView
        RelativeLayout.LayoutParams lp = new RelativeLayout.LayoutParams(
                RelativeLayout.LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT,
                RelativeLayout.LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT);
        lp.addRule(RelativeLayout.CENTER_IN_PARENT);

        // Setting the parameters on the TextView
        tv.setLayoutParams(lp);

        // Adding the TextView to the RelativeLayout as a child
        relativeLayout.addView(tv);

        // Setting the RelativeLayout as our content view
        setContentView(relativeLayout, rlp);
    }
}

In theory everything should be clear as it is commented. If you don't understand something just tell me.

phpinfo() is not working on my CentOS server

This happened to me as well. The fix was wrapping it in HTML tags. Then I saved the file as /var/www/html/info.php and ran http://localhost/info.php in the browser. That's it.

<html>
    <body>
        <?php
            phpinfo();
        ?>
    </body>
</html>

wildcard * in CSS for classes

What you need is called attribute selector. An example, using your html structure, is the following:

div[class^="tocolor-"], div[class*=" tocolor-"] {
    color:red
}

In the place of div you can add any element or remove it altogether, and in the place of class you can add any attribute of the specified element.

[class^="tocolor-"] — starts with "tocolor-".
[class*=" tocolor-"] — contains the substring "tocolor-" occurring directly after a space character.

Demo: http://jsfiddle.net/K3693/1/

More information on CSS attribute selectors, you can find here and here. And from MDN Docs MDN Docs

Fragments within Fragments

Nested fragments are supported in android 4.2 and later

The Android Support Library also now supports nested fragments, so you can implement nested fragment designs on Android 1.6 and higher.

To nest a fragment, simply call getChildFragmentManager() on the Fragment in which you want to add a fragment. This returns a FragmentManager that you can use like you normally do from the top-level activity to create fragment transactions. For example, here’s some code that adds a fragment from within an existing Fragment class:

Fragment videoFragment = new VideoPlayerFragment();
FragmentTransaction transaction = getChildFragmentManager().beginTransaction();
transaction.add(R.id.video_fragment, videoFragment).commit();

To get more idea about nested fragments, please go through these tutorials
Part 1
Part 2
Part 3

and here is a SO post which discuss about best practices for nested fragments.

How might I schedule a C# Windows Service to perform a task daily?

Try this:

public partial class Service : ServiceBase
{
    private Timer timer;
    public Service()
    {
        InitializeComponent();
    }

    protected override void OnStart(string[] args)
    {
        SetTimer();
    }

    private void SetTimer()
    {
        if (timer == null)
        {
            timer = new Timer();
            timer.AutoReset = true;
            timer.Interval = 60000 * Convert.ToDouble(ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["IntervalMinutes"]);
            timer.Elapsed += new ElapsedEventHandler(timer_Elapsed);
            timer.Start();
        }
    }

    private void timer_Elapsed(object source, System.Timers.ElapsedEventArgs e)
    {
        //Do some thing logic here
    }

    protected override void OnStop()
    {
        // disposed all service objects
    }
}

Run class in Jar file

Assuming you are in the directory where myJar.jar file is and that myClass has a public static void main() method on it:

You use the following command line:

java -cp ./myJar.jar myClass

Where:

  1. myJar.jar is in the current path, note that . isn't in the current path on most systems. A fully qualified path is preferred here as well.

  2. myClass is a fully qualified package path to the class, the example assumes that myClass is in the default package which is bad practice, if it is in a nested package it would be com.mycompany.mycode.myClass.

Unable to run Java code with Intellij IDEA

Is module __file__ attribute absolute or relative?

__file__ is absolute since Python 3.4, except when executing a script directly using a relative path:

Module __file__ attributes (and related values) should now always contain absolute paths by default, with the sole exception of __main__.__file__ when a script has been executed directly using a relative path. (Contributed by Brett Cannon in bpo-18416.)

Not sure if it resolves symlinks though.

Example of passing a relative path:

$ python script.py

console.log timestamps in Chrome?

I originally added this as a comment, but I wanted to add a screenshot as at least one person could not find the option (or maybe it was not available in their particular version for some reason).

On Chrome 68.0.3440.106 (and now checked in 72.0.3626.121) I had to

  • open dev tools (F12)
  • click the three-dot menu in the top right
  • click settings
  • select Preferences in the left menu
  • check show timestamps in the Console section of the settings screen

Settings > Preferences > Console > Show timestamps

Get The Current Domain Name With Javascript (Not the path, etc.)

Let's suppose you have this url path:

http://localhost:4200/landing?query=1#2

So, you can serve yourself by the location values, as follow:

window.location.hash: "#2"
?
window.location.host: "localhost:4200"
?
window.location.hostname: "localhost"
?
window.location.href: "http://localhost:4200/landing?query=1#2"
?
window.location.origin: "http://localhost:4200"
?
window.location.pathname: "/landing"
?
window.location.port: "4200"
?
window.location.protocol: "http:"

window.location.search: "?query=1"

Now we can conclude you're looking for:

window.location.hostname

Http Post With Body

You can try something like this using HttpClient and HttpPost:

List<NameValuePair> params = new ArrayList<NameValuePair>();
params.add(new BasicNameValuePair("mystring", "value_of_my_string"));
// etc...

// Post data to the server
HttpPost httppost = new HttpPost("http://...");
httppost.setEntity(new UrlEncodedFormEntity(params));

HttpClient httpclient = new DefaultHttpClient();
HttpResponse httpResponse = httpclient.execute(httppost);

Just so you know what worked for me, The file at https://curl.haxx.se/ca/cacert.... did not work however, the one in the zip folder in the post at (http://flwebsites.biz/posts/how-fix-curl-error-60-ssl-issue) worked for me with no issues at all.

As others have said, copy the certificate file to a location on your hard drive, update the line

What is the difference between CloseableHttpClient and HttpClient in Apache HttpClient API?

CloseableHttpClient is the base class of the httpclient library, the one all implementations use. Other subclasses are for the most part deprecated.

The HttpClient is an interface for this class and other classes.

You should then use the CloseableHttpClient in your code, and create it using the HttpClientBuilder. If you need to wrap the client to add specific behaviour you should use request and response interceptors instead of wrapping with the HttpClient.

This answer was given in the context of httpclient-4.3.

How do I test if a variable does not equal either of two values?

May I suggest trying to use in else if statement in your if/else statement. And if you don't want to run any code that not under any conditions you want you can just leave the else out at the end of the statement. else if can also be used for any number of diversion paths that need things to be a certain condition for each.

if(condition 1){

} else if (condition 2) {

}else {

How to pass params with history.push/Link/Redirect in react-router v4?

I created a custom useQuery hook

import { useLocation } from "react-router-dom";

const useQuery = (): URLSearchParams => {
  return new URLSearchParams(useLocation().search)
}

export default useQuery

Use it as

const query = useQuery();
const id = query.get("id") as string

Send it as so

history.push({

 search: `id=${values.id}`,
});

Why does this code using random strings print "hello world"?

The other answers explain why, but here is how.

Given an instance of Random:

Random r = new Random(-229985452)

The first 6 numbers that r.nextInt(27) generates are:

8
5
12
12
15
0

and the first 6 numbers that r.nextInt(27) generates given Random r = new Random(-147909649) are:

23
15
18
12
4
0

Then just add those numbers to the integer representation of the character ` (which is 96):

8  + 96 = 104 --> h
5  + 96 = 101 --> e
12 + 96 = 108 --> l
12 + 96 = 108 --> l
15 + 96 = 111 --> o

23 + 96 = 119 --> w
15 + 96 = 111 --> o
18 + 96 = 114 --> r
12 + 96 = 108 --> l
4  + 96 = 100 --> d

How do I get a specific range of numbers from rand()?

This answer does not focus on the randomness but on the arithmetic order. To get a number within a range, usually we can do it like this:

// the range is between [aMin, aMax]
double f = (double)rand() / RAND_MAX;
double result = aMin + f * (aMax - aMin);

However, there is a possibility that (aMax - aMin) overflows. E.g. aMax = 1, aMin = -DBL_MAX. A safer way is to write like this:

// the range is between [aMin, aMax]
double f = (double)rand() / RAND_MAX;
double result = aMin - f * aMin + f * aMax;

Based on this concept, something like this may cause a problem.

rand() % (max_number + 1 - minimum_number) + minimum_number
// 1. max_number + 1 might overflow
// 2. max_number + 1 - min_number might overflow

python encoding utf-8

You don't need to encode data that is already encoded. When you try to do that, Python will first try to decode it to unicode before it can encode it back to UTF-8. That is what is failing here:

>>> data = u'\u00c3'            # Unicode data
>>> data = data.encode('utf8')  # encoded to UTF-8
>>> data
'\xc3\x83'
>>> data.encode('utf8')         # Try to *re*-encode it
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "<stdin>", line 1, in <module>
UnicodeDecodeError: 'ascii' codec can't decode byte 0xc3 in position 0: ordinal not in range(128)

Just write your data directly to the file, there is no need to encode already-encoded data.

If you instead build up unicode values instead, you would indeed have to encode those to be writable to a file. You'd want to use codecs.open() instead, which returns a file object that will encode unicode values to UTF-8 for you.

You also really don't want to write out the UTF-8 BOM, unless you have to support Microsoft tools that cannot read UTF-8 otherwise (such as MS Notepad).

For your MySQL insert problem, you need to do two things:

  • Add charset='utf8' to your MySQLdb.connect() call.

  • Use unicode objects, not str objects when querying or inserting, but use sql parameters so the MySQL connector can do the right thing for you:

    artiste = artiste.decode('utf8') # it is already UTF8, decode to unicode

    c.execute('SELECT COUNT(id) AS nbr FROM artistes WHERE nom=%s', (artiste,))

    # ...

    c.execute('INSERT INTO artistes(nom,status,path) VALUES(%s, 99, %s)', (artiste, artiste + u'/'))

It may actually work better if you used codecs.open() to decode the contents automatically instead:

import codecs

sql = mdb.connect('localhost','admin','ugo&(-@F','music_vibration', charset='utf8')

with codecs.open('config/index/'+index, 'r', 'utf8') as findex:
    for line in findex:
        if u'#artiste' not in line:
            continue

        artiste=line.split(u'[:::]')[1].strip()

    cursor = sql.cursor()
    cursor.execute('SELECT COUNT(id) AS nbr FROM artistes WHERE nom=%s', (artiste,))
    if not cursor.fetchone()[0]:
        cursor = sql.cursor()
        cursor.execute('INSERT INTO artistes(nom,status,path) VALUES(%s, 99, %s)', (artiste, artiste + u'/'))
        artists_inserted += 1

You may want to brush up on Unicode and UTF-8 and encodings. I can recommend the following articles:

Part of the problem here is that the strings usually used to represent timezones are not actually unique. "EST" only means "America/New_York" to people in North America. This is a limitation in the C time API, and the Python solution is… to add full tz features in some future version any day now, if anyone is willing to write the PEP.

You can format and parse a timezone as an offset, but that loses daylight savings/summer time information (e.g., you can't distinguish "America/Phoenix" from "America/Los_Angeles" in the summer). You can format a timezone as a 3-letter abbreviation, but you can't parse it back from that.

If you want something that's fuzzy and ambiguous but usually what you want, you need a third-party library like dateutil.

If you want something that's actually unambiguous, just append the actual tz name to the local datetime string yourself, and split it back off on the other end:

d = datetime.datetime.now(pytz.timezone("America/New_York"))
dtz_string = d.strftime(fmt) + ' ' + "America/New_York"

d_string, tz_string = dtz_string.rsplit(' ', 1)
d2 = datetime.datetime.strptime(d_string, fmt)
tz2 = pytz.timezone(tz_string)

print dtz_string
print d2.strftime(fmt) + ' ' + tz_string

Or… halfway between those two, you're already using the pytz library, which can parse (according to some arbitrary but well-defined disambiguation rules) formats like "EST". So, if you really want to, you can leave the %Z in on the formatting side, then pull it off and parse it with pytz.timezone() before passing the rest to strptime.

Rounding a number to the nearest 5 or 10 or X

I slightly updated the function provided by the "community wiki" (the best answer), just to round to the nearest 5 (or anything you like), with this exception : the rounded number will NEVER be superior to the original number.

This is useful in cases when it is needed to say that "a company is alive for 47 years" : I want the web page to display "is alive for more than 45 years", while avoiding lying in stating "is alive for more than 50 years".

So when you feed this function with 47, it will not return 50, but will return 45 instead.

'Rounds a number to the nearest unit, never exceeding the actual value
function RoundToNearestOrBelow(num, r)

    '@param num Long/Integer/Double The number to be rounded
    '@param r Long The rounding value
    '@return OUT Long The rounded value

    'Example usage :
    '   Round 47 to the nearest 5 : it will return 45
    '   Response.Write RoundToNearestBelow(47, 5)

    Dim OUT : OUT = num

    Dim rounded : rounded = Round((((num)) / r), 0) * r

    if (rounded =< num) then
        OUT = rounded
    else
        OUT = rounded - r
    end if

    'Return
    RoundToNearestOrBelow = OUT

end function 'RoundToNearestOrBelow

How do I run a simple bit of code in a new thread?

Put that code in a function (the code that can't be executed on the same thread as the GUI), and to trigger that code's execution put the following.

Thread myThread= new Thread(nameOfFunction);

workerThread.Start();

Calling the start function on the thread object will cause the execution of your function call in a new thread.

SQL, How to convert VARCHAR to bigint?

an alternative would be to do something like:

   SELECT

      TableName
   WHERE
      ISNUMERIC(seconds) = 1

What is the best way to delete a component with CLI

destroy or something similar may come to the CLI, but it is not a primary focus at this time. So you will need to do this manually.

Delete the component directory (assuming you didn't use --flat) and then remove it from the NgModule in which it is declared.

If you are unsure of what to do, I suggest you have a "clean" app meaning no current git changes. Then generate a component and see what is changed in the repo so you can backtrack from there what you will need to do to delete a component.

Update

If you're just experimenting about what you want to generate, you can use the --dry-run flag to not produce any files on disk, just see the updated file list.

How do I get the size of a java.sql.ResultSet?

I was having the same problem. Using ResultSet.first() in this way just after the execution solved it:

if(rs.first()){
    // Do your job
} else {
    // No rows take some actions
}

Documentation (link):

boolean first()
    throws SQLException

Moves the cursor to the first row in this ResultSet object.

Returns:

true if the cursor is on a valid row; false if there are no rows in the result set

Throws:

SQLException - if a database access error occurs; this method is called on a closed result set or the result set type is TYPE_FORWARD_ONLY

SQLFeatureNotSupportedException - if the JDBC driver does not support this method

Getting Keyboard Input

Import: import java.util.Scanner;

Define your variables: String name; int age;

Define your scanner: Scanner scan = new Scanner(System.in);

If you want to type:

  • Text: name = scan.nextLine();
  • Integer: age = scan.nextInt();

Close scanner if no longer needed: scan.close();

Plotting a fast Fourier transform in Python

So I run a functionally equivalent form of your code in an IPython notebook:

%matplotlib inline
import numpy as np
import matplotlib.pyplot as plt
import scipy.fftpack

# Number of samplepoints
N = 600
# sample spacing
T = 1.0 / 800.0
x = np.linspace(0.0, N*T, N)
y = np.sin(50.0 * 2.0*np.pi*x) + 0.5*np.sin(80.0 * 2.0*np.pi*x)
yf = scipy.fftpack.fft(y)
xf = np.linspace(0.0, 1.0/(2.0*T), N/2)

fig, ax = plt.subplots()
ax.plot(xf, 2.0/N * np.abs(yf[:N//2]))
plt.show()

I get what I believe to be very reasonable output.

It's been longer than I care to admit since I was in engineering school thinking about signal processing, but spikes at 50 and 80 are exactly what I would expect. So what's the issue?

In response to the raw data and comments being posted

The problem here is that you don't have periodic data. You should always inspect the data that you feed into any algorithm to make sure that it's appropriate.

import pandas
import matplotlib.pyplot as plt
#import seaborn
%matplotlib inline

# the OP's data
x = pandas.read_csv('http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=ksM4FvZS', skiprows=2, header=None).values
y = pandas.read_csv('http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=0WhjjMkb', skiprows=2, header=None).values
fig, ax = plt.subplots()
ax.plot(x, y)

Change DataGrid cell colour based on values

This may be of help to you. It isn't the stock WPF datagrid however.

I used DevExpress with a custom ColorFormatter behaviour. I couldn't find anything on the market that did this out of the box. This took me a few days to develop. My code attaached below, hopefully this helps someone out there.

Edit: I used POCO view models and MVVM however you could change this to not use POCO if you desire.

Example

Viewmodel.cs

namespace ViewModel
{
    [POCOViewModel]
    public class Table2DViewModel
    {
        public ITable2DView Table2DView { get; set; }

        public DataTable ItemsTable { get; set; }

        public Table2DViewModel()
        {
        }

        public Table2DViewModel(MainViewModel mainViewModel, ITable2DView table2DView) : base(mainViewModel)
        {
            Table2DView = table2DView;
            CreateTable();
        }

        private void CreateTable()
        {
            var dt = new DataTable();
            var xAxisStrings = new string[]{"X1","X2","X3"};
            var yAxisStrings = new string[]{"Y1","Y2","Y3"};

            //TODO determine your min, max number for your colours
            var minValue = 0;
            var maxValue = 100;
            Table2DView.SetColorFormatter(minValue,maxValue, null);

            //Add the columns
            dt.Columns.Add(" ", typeof(string));
            foreach (var x in xAxisStrings) dt.Columns.Add(x, typeof(double));

            //Add all the values
            double z = 0;
            for (var y = 0; y < yAxisStrings.Length; y++)
            {
                var dr = dt.NewRow();
                dr[" "] = yAxisStrings[y];
                for (var x = 0; x < xAxisStrings.Length; x++)
                {
                    //TODO put your actual values here!
                    dr[xAxisStrings[x]] = z++; //Add a random values
                }
                dt.Rows.Add(dr);
            }

WordPress asking for my FTP credentials to install plugins

I did a local install of WordPress on Ubuntu 14.04 following the steps outlined here and simply running:

sudo chown -R www-data:www-data {path_to_your_project_directory}

solved my issue with downloading plugins. The only reason I'm leaving this post here is because when I googled my issue, this was one of the first results and it led me to the solution to my problem.

Hope this one helps to anyone!

SQL query, store result of SELECT in local variable

I came here with a similar question/problem, but I only needed a single value to be stored from the query, not an array/table of results as in the orig post. I was able to use the table method above for a single value, however I have stumbled upon an easier way to store a single value.

declare @myVal int; set @myVal = isnull((select a from table1), 0);

Make sure to default the value in the isnull statement to a valid type for your variable, in my example the value in table1 that we're storing is an int.

How do I use Wget to download all images into a single folder, from a URL?

According to the man page the -P flag is:

-P prefix --directory-prefix=prefix Set directory prefix to prefix. The directory prefix is the directory where all other files and subdirectories will be saved to, i.e. the top of the retrieval tree. The default is . (the current directory).

This mean that it only specifies the destination but where to save the directory tree. It does not flatten the tree into just one directory. As mentioned before the -nd flag actually does that.

@Jon in the future it would be beneficial to describe what the flag does so we understand how something works.

Publish to IIS, setting Environment Variable

I have modified the answer which @Christian Del Bianco is given. I changed the process for .net core 2 and upper as project.json file now absolute.

  1. First, create appsettings.json file in root directory. with the content

      {
         // Possible string values reported below. When empty it use ENV
            variable value or Visual Studio setting.
         // - Production
         // - Staging
         // - Test
        // - Development
       "ASPNETCORE_ENVIRONMENT": "Development"
     }

  2. Then create another two setting file appsettings.Development.json and appsettings.Production.json with the necessary configuration.

  3. Add necessary code to set up the environment to Program.cs file.

    public class Program
    {
    public static void Main(string[] args)
    {
        var logger = NLogBuilder.ConfigureNLog("nlog.config").GetCurrentClassLogger();

      ***var currentDirectoryPath = Directory.GetCurrentDirectory();
        var envSettingsPath = Path.Combine(currentDirectoryPath, "envsettings.json");
        var envSettings = JObject.Parse(File.ReadAllText(envSettingsPath));
        var enviromentValue = envSettings["ASPNETCORE_ENVIRONMENT"].ToString();***

        try
        {
            ***CreateWebHostBuilder(args, enviromentValue).Build().Run();***
        }
        catch (Exception ex)
        {
            //NLog: catch setup errors
            logger.Error(ex, "Stopped program because of setup related exception");
            throw;
        }
        finally
        {
            NLog.LogManager.Shutdown();
        }
    }

    public static IWebHostBuilder CreateWebHostBuilder(string[] args, string enviromentValue) =>
        WebHost.CreateDefaultBuilder(args)
            .UseStartup<Startup>()
            .ConfigureLogging(logging =>
            {
                logging.ClearProviders();
                logging.SetMinimumLevel(Microsoft.Extensions.Logging.LogLevel.Trace);
            })
            .UseNLog()
            ***.UseEnvironment(enviromentValue);***

    }

  4. Add the envsettings.json to your .csproj file for copy to published directory.

       <ItemGroup>
            <None Include="envsettings.json" CopyToPublishDirectory="Always" />
        </ItemGroup>

  5. Now just change the ASPNETCORE_ENVIRONMENT as you want in envsettings.json file and published.

How do I change button size in Python?

I've always used .place() for my tkinter widgets. place syntax

You can specify the size of it just by changing the keyword arguments!

Of course, you will have to call .place() again if you want to change it.

Works in python 3.8.2, if you're wondering.

Can I delete a git commit but keep the changes?

I think you are looking for this

git reset --soft HEAD~1

It undoes the most recent commit whilst keeping the changes made in that commit to staging.

How to store file name in database, with other info while uploading image to server using PHP?

You have an ID for each photo so my suggestion is you rename the photo. For example you rename it by the date

<?php
 $date = getdate();
 $name .= $date[hours];
 $name .= $date[minutes];
 $name .= $date[seconds];
 $name .= $date[year];
 $name .= $date[mon];
 $name .= $date[mday];
?>

note: don't forget the file extension of your file or you can generate random string for the photo, but I would not recommend that. I would also recommend you to check the file extension before you upload it to your directory.

<?php
if ((($_FILES["photo"]["type"] == "image/jpeg")
            || ($_FILES["photo"]["type"] == "image/pjpg"))
            && ($_FILES["photo"]["size"] < 100000000))
            {
                move_uploaded_file($_FILES["photo"]["tmp_name"], $target.$name);

                if(mysql_query("your query"))
                {
                    //success handling
                }
                else
                {
                    //failed handling
                }
            }
            else
            {
                //error handling
            }
?>

Hope this might help.

python BeautifulSoup parsing table

Updated Answer

If a programmer is interested in only parsing a table from a webpage, they can utilize the pandas method pandas.read_html.

Let's say we want to extract the GDP data table from the website: https://worldpopulationreview.com/countries/countries-by-gdp/#worldCountries

Then following codes does the job perfectly (No need of beautifulsoup and fancy html):

import pandas as pd
import requests

url = "https://worldpopulationreview.com/countries/countries-by-gdp/#worldCountries"

r = requests.get(url)
df_list = pd.read_html(r.text) # this parses all the tables in webpages to a list
df = df_list[0]
df.head()

Output

First five lines of the table from the Website

How to display default text "--Select Team --" in combo box on pageload in WPF?

A little late but..

A more simple way would be to add a dummy data item to the list with parameter IsDummy=true and make sure it is not HitTestVisable and its hight is 1 pixel (using a Converter) so it wont be seen.

Than just register to SelectionChanged and in it, set the index to the dummy item index.

It works like a charm and this way you don't mess with the style and colors of the ComboBox or your application theme.

How to use View.OnTouchListener instead of onClick

Presumably, if one wants to use an OnTouchListener rather than an OnClickListener, then the extra functionality of the OnTouchListener is needed. This is a supplemental answer to show more detail of how an OnTouchListener can be used.

Define the listener

Put this somewhere in your activity or fragment.

private View.OnTouchListener handleTouch = new View.OnTouchListener() {

    @Override
    public boolean onTouch(View v, MotionEvent event) {

        int x = (int) event.getX();
        int y = (int) event.getY();

        switch (event.getAction()) {
            case MotionEvent.ACTION_DOWN:
                Log.i("TAG", "touched down");
                break;
            case MotionEvent.ACTION_MOVE:
                Log.i("TAG", "moving: (" + x + ", " + y + ")");
                break;
            case MotionEvent.ACTION_UP:
                Log.i("TAG", "touched up");
                break;
        }

        return true;
    }
};

Set the listener

Set the listener in onCreate (for an Activity) or onCreateView (for a Fragment).

myView.setOnTouchListener(handleTouch);

Notes

  • getX and getY give you the coordinates relative to the view (that is, the top left corner of the view). They will be negative when moving above or to the left of your view. Use getRawX and getRawY if you want the absolute screen coordinates.

It looks like you probably pasted this (or used a word processor like MS Word) using a kind of double-quotes that are not recognized by the browser. Please check that your code uses actual double-quotes like this one ", which is different from the following character:

Replace the meta tag with this one and try again:

<meta http-equiv="refresh" content="5" >

Determine SQL Server Database Size

In SQL Management Studio, right-click on a database and select "Properties" from the context menu. Look at the "Size" figure.

an htop-like tool to display disk activity in linux

Use collectl which has extensive process I/O monitoring including monitoring threads.

Be warned that there are I/O counters for I/O being written to cache and I/O going to disk. collectl reports them separately. If you're not careful you can misinterpret the data. See http://collectl.sourceforge.net/Process.html

Of course, it shows a lot more than just process stats because you'd want one tool to provide everything rather than a bunch of different one that displays everything in different formats, right?

Laravel 5.4 Specific Table Migration

You could try to use the --path= option to define the specific sub-folder you're wanting to execute and place specific migrations in there.

Alternatively you would need to remove reference and tables from the DB and migrations tables which isn't ideal :/

React-Router: No Not Found Route?

This answer is for react-router-4. You can wrap all the routes in Switch block, which functions just like the switch-case expression, and renders the component with the first matched route. eg)

<Switch>
      <Route path="/" component={home}/>
      <Route path="/home" component={home}/>
      <Route component={GenericNotFound}/> {/* The Default not found component */}
</Switch>

When to use exact

Without exact:

<Route path='/home'
       component = {Home} />

{/* This will also work for cases like https://<domain>/home/anyvalue. */}

With exact:

<Route exact path='/home'
       component = {Home} />

{/*
     This will NOT work for cases like https://<domain>/home/anyvalue.
     Only for https://<url>/home and https://<domain>/home/
*/}

Now if you are accepting routing parameters, and if it turns out incorrect, you can handle it in the target component itself. eg)

<Route exact path='/user/:email'
       render = { (props) => <ProfilePage {...props} user={this.state.user} />} />

Now in ProfilePage.js

if(this.props.match.params.email != desiredValue)
{
   <Redirect to="/notFound" component = {GenericNotFound}/>
   //Or you can show some other component here itself.
}

For more details you can go through this code:

How to use youtube-dl from a python program?

It's not difficult and actually documented:

import youtube_dl

ydl = youtube_dl.YoutubeDL({'outtmpl': '%(id)s.%(ext)s'})

with ydl:
    result = ydl.extract_info(
        'http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BaW_jenozKc',
        download=False # We just want to extract the info
    )

if 'entries' in result:
    # Can be a playlist or a list of videos
    video = result['entries'][0]
else:
    # Just a video
    video = result

print(video)
video_url = video['url']
print(video_url)

Number of days between two dates in Joda-Time

Annoyingly, the withTimeAtStartOfDay answer is wrong, but only occasionally. You want:

Days.daysBetween(start.toLocalDate(), end.toLocalDate()).getDays()

It turns out that "midnight/start of day" sometimes means 1am (daylight savings happen this way in some places), which Days.daysBetween doesn't handle properly.

// 5am on the 20th to 1pm on the 21st, October 2013, Brazil
DateTimeZone BRAZIL = DateTimeZone.forID("America/Sao_Paulo");
DateTime start = new DateTime(2013, 10, 20, 5, 0, 0, BRAZIL);
DateTime end = new DateTime(2013, 10, 21, 13, 0, 0, BRAZIL);
System.out.println(daysBetween(start.withTimeAtStartOfDay(),
                               end.withTimeAtStartOfDay()).getDays());
// prints 0
System.out.println(daysBetween(start.toLocalDate(),
                               end.toLocalDate()).getDays());
// prints 1

Going via a LocalDate sidesteps the whole issue.

Access to the path is denied

I had a lot of trouble with this, specifically related to my code running locally but when I needed to run it on IIS it was throwing this error. I found that adding a check to my code and letting the application create the folder on the first run fixed the issue without having to mess with the folders authorizations.

something like this before you call your method that uses the folder

bool exists = System.IO.Directory.Exists("mypath");

        if (!exists)
            System.IO.Directory.CreateDirectory("mypath");

A general tree implementation?

A tree in Python is quite simple. Make a class that has data and a list of children. Each child is an instance of the same class. This is a general n-nary tree.

class Node(object):
    def __init__(self, data):
        self.data = data
        self.children = []

    def add_child(self, obj):
        self.children.append(obj)

Then interact:

>>> n = Node(5)
>>> p = Node(6)
>>> q = Node(7)
>>> n.add_child(p)
>>> n.add_child(q)
>>> n.children
[<__main__.Node object at 0x02877FF0>, <__main__.Node object at 0x02877F90>]
>>> for c in n.children:
...   print c.data
...
6
7
>>>

This is a very basic skeleton, not abstracted or anything. The actual code will depend on your specific needs - I'm just trying to show that this is very simple in Python.

Set environment variables from file of key/value pairs

Problem with your approach is the export in the while loop is happening in a sub shell, and those variable will not be available in current shell (parent shell of while loop).

Add export command in the file itself:

export MINIENTREGA_FECHALIMITE="2011-03-31"
export MINIENTREGA_FICHEROS="informe.txt programa.c"
export MINIENTREGA_DESTINO="./destino/entrega-prac1"

Then you need to source in the file in current shell using:

. ./conf/prac1

OR

source ./conf/prac1

Is there a Max function in SQL Server that takes two values like Math.Max in .NET?

Here is an IIF version with NULL handling (based on of Xin's answer):

IIF(a IS NULL OR b IS NULL, ISNULL(a,b), IIF(a > b, a, b))

The logic is as follows, if either of the values is NULL, return the one that isn't NULL (if both are NULL, a NULL is returned). Otherwise return the greater one.

Same can be done for MIN.

IIF(a IS NULL OR b IS NULL, ISNULL(a,b), IIF(a < b, a, b))

[] and {} vs list() and dict(), which is better?

The dict literal might be a tiny bit faster as its bytecode is shorter:

In [1]: import dis
In [2]: a = lambda: {}
In [3]: b = lambda: dict()

In [4]: dis.dis(a)
  1           0 BUILD_MAP                0
              3 RETURN_VALUE

In [5]: dis.dis(b)
  1           0 LOAD_GLOBAL              0 (dict)
              3 CALL_FUNCTION            0
              6 RETURN_VALUE

Same applies to the list vs []

       HttpURLConnection huc = (HttpURLConnection) url.openConnection();
       HttpURLConnection.setFollowRedirects(false);
       huc.setConnectTimeout(15 * 1000);
       huc.setRequestMethod("GET");
       huc.setRequestProperty("User-Agent", "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9.1.2) Gecko/20090729 Firefox/3.5.2 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729)");
       huc.connect();
       InputStream input = huc.getInputStream();

You have several options:

  1. Use the standard FB Share button and set text via Open Graph API and meta tags on your page.
  2. Instead of Share, use FB.ui's stream.publish method, which let's you control the URL, title, caption, description and thumbnail at run-time.
  3. Or use http://www.facebook.com/sharer.php with appropriate parameters.

What is the difference between utf8mb4 and utf8 charsets in MySQL?

The utf8mb4 character set is useful because nowadays we need support for storing not only language characters but also symbols, newly introduced emojis, and so on.

A nice read on How to support full Unicode in MySQL databases by Mathias Bynens can also shed some light on this.

How to split a python string on new line characters

Postgresql: Scripting psql execution with password

This might be an old question, but there's an alternate method you can use that no one has mentioned. It's possible to specify the password directly in the connection URI. The documentation can be found here, alternatively here.

You can provide your username and password directly in the connection URI provided to psql:

# postgresql://[user[:password]@][netloc][:port][/dbname][?param1=value1&...]
psql postgresql://username:password@localhost:5432/mydb

Passing Javascript variable to <a href >

If you use internationalization (i18n), and after switch to another language, something like ?locale=fror ?fr might be added at the end of the url. But when you go to another page on click event, translation switch wont be stable.

For this kind of cases a DOM click event handler function must be produced to handle all the a.href attributes by storing the switch state as a variable and add it to all a tags’ tail.

How to change Status Bar text color in iOS

Calculating the area under a curve given a set of coordinates, without knowing the function

You can use Simpsons rule or the Trapezium rule to calculate the area under a graph given a table of y-values at a regular interval.

Python script that calculates Simpsons rule:

def integrate(y_vals, h):
    i = 1
    total = y_vals[0] + y_vals[-1]
    for y in y_vals[1:-1]:
        if i % 2 == 0:
            total += 2 * y
        else:
            total += 4 * y
        i += 1
    return total * (h / 3.0)

h is the offset (or gap) between y values, and y_vals is an array of well, y values.

Example (In same file as above function):

y_values = [13, 45.3, 12, 1, 476, 0]
interval = 1.2
area = integrate(y_values, interval)
print("The area is", area)

Call Javascript function from URL/address bar

About the window.location.hash property:

Return the anchor part of a URL.

Example 1:

//Assume that the current URL is

var URL = "http://www.example.com/test.htm#part2";

var x = window.location.hash;

//The result of x will be:

x = "#part2"

Exmaple 2:

$(function(){
    setTimeout(function(){
        var id = document.location.hash;
        $(id).click().blur();
    }, 200);
})

Example 3:

var hash = "#search" || window.location.hash;
window.location.hash = hash;

switch(hash){
case "#search":
    selectPanel("pnlSearch");
    break;
case "#advsearch":

case "#admin":

}

exit application when click button - iOS

exit(X), where X is a number (according to the doc) should work. But it is not recommended by Apple and won't be accepted by the AppStore. Why? Because of these guidelines (one of my app got rejected):

We found that your app includes a UI control for quitting the app. This is not in compliance with the iOS Human Interface Guidelines, as required by the App Store Review Guidelines.

Please refer to the attached screenshot/s for reference.

The iOS Human Interface Guidelines specify,

"Always Be Prepared to Stop iOS applications stop when people press the Home button to open a different application or use a device feature, such as the phone. In particular, people don’t tap an application close button or select Quit from a menu. To provide a good stopping experience, an iOS application should:

Save user data as soon as possible and as often as reasonable because an exit or terminate notification can arrive at any time.

Save the current state when stopping, at the finest level of detail possible so that people don’t lose their context when they start the application again. For example, if your app displays scrolling data, save the current scroll position."

> It would be appropriate to remove any mechanisms for quitting your app.

Plus, if you try to hide that function, it would be understood by the user as a crash.

Cast to generic type in C#

You can write a method that takes the type as a generic parameter:

void GenericProcessMessage<T>(T message)
{
    MessageProcessor<T> processor = messageProcessors[typeof(T)]
        as MessageProcessor<T>;

    // Call method processor or whatever you need to do
}

Then you need a way to call the method with the correct generic argument. You can do this with reflection:

public void ProcessMessage(object message)
{
    Type messageType = message.GetType();
    MethodInfo method = this.GetType().GetMethod("GenericProcessMessage");
    MethodInfo closedMethod = method.MakeGenericMethod(messageType);
    closedMethod.Invoke(this, new object[] {message});
}

how to modify the size of a column

Regardless of what error Oracle SQL Developer may indicate in the syntax highlighting, actually running your alter statement exactly the way you originally had it works perfectly:

ALTER TABLE TEST_PROJECT2 MODIFY proj_name VARCHAR2(300);

You only need to add parenthesis if you need to alter more than one column at once, such as:

ALTER TABLE TEST_PROJECT2 MODIFY (proj_name VARCHAR2(400), proj_desc VARCHAR2(400));

What's the difference between a proxy server and a reverse proxy server?

My understanding from an Apache perspective is that proxy means that if site x proxies for site y, then requests for x return y.

The reverse proxy means that the response from y is adjusted so that all references to y become x.

So that the user cannot tell that a proxy is involved...

Checking to see if a DateTime variable has had a value assigned

DateTime is value type, so it can not never be null. If you think DateTime? ( Nullable ) you can use:

DateTime? something = GetDateTime();
bool isNull = (something == null);
bool isNull2 = !something.HasValue;

What does `void 0` mean?

void is a reserved JavaScript keyword. It evaluates the expression and always returns undefined.

Jquery $.ajax fails in IE on cross domain calls

How to select first child with jQuery?

$('div.alldivs :first-child');

Or you can just refer to the id directly:

$('#div1');

As suggested, you might be better of using the child selector:

$('div.alldivs > div:first-child')

If you dont have to use first-child, you could use :first as also suggested, or $('div.alldivs').children(0).

clearInterval() not working

i think you should do:

};

Rails Model find where not equal

You should always include the table name in the SQL query when dealing with associations.

Indeed if another table has the user_id column and you join both tables, you will have an ambiguous column name in the SQL query (i.e. troubles).

So, in your example:

GroupUser.where("groups_users.user_id != ?", me)

Or a bit more verbose:

GroupUser.where("#{table_name}.user_id IS NOT ?", me)

Note that if you are using a hash, you don't need to worry about that because Rails takes care of it for you:

GroupUser.where(user: me)

In Rails 4, as said by @dr4k3, the query method not has been added:

GroupUser.where.not(user: me)

How to convert an Array to a Set in Java

For anyone solving for Android:

Kotlin Collections Solution

The asterisk * is the spread operator. It applies all elements in a collection individually, each passed in order to a vararg method parameter. It is equivalent to:

val myArray = arrayOf("data", "foo")
val mySet = setOf(*myArray)

// Equivalent to
val mySet = setOf("data", "foo")

// Multiple spreads ["data", "foo", "bar", "data", "foo"]
val mySet = setOf(*myArray, "bar", *myArray)

Passing no parameters setOf() results in an empty set.

In addition to setOf, you can also use any of these for a specific hash type:

hashSetOf()
linkedSetOf()
mutableSetOf()
sortableSetOf()

This is how to define the collection item type explicitly.

setOf<String>()
hashSetOf<MyClass>()

java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: javax/mail/Authenticator, whats wrong?

While it's possible that this is due to a jar file missing from your classpath, it may not be.

It is important to keep two or three different exceptions strait in our head in this case:

  1. java.lang.ClassNotFoundException This exception indicates that the class was not found on the classpath. This indicates that we were trying to load the class definition, and the class did not exist on the classpath.

  2. java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError This exception indicates that the JVM looked in its internal class definition data structure for the definition of a class and did not find it. This is different than saying that it could not be loaded from the classpath. Usually this indicates that we previously attempted to load a class from the classpath, but it failed for some reason - now we're trying again, but we're not even going to try to load it, because we failed loading it earlier. The earlier failure could be a ClassNotFoundException or an ExceptionInInitializerError (indicating a failure in the static initialization block) or any number of other problems. The point is, a NoClassDefFoundError is not necessarily a classpath problem.

I would look at the source for javax.mail.Authenticator, and see what it is doing in it's static initializer. (Look at static variable initialization and the static block, if there is one.) If you aren't getting a ClassNotFoundException prior to the NoClassDefFoundError, you're almost guaranteed that it's a static initialization problem.

I have seen similar errors quite frequently when the hosts file incorrectly defines the localhost address, and the static initialization block relies on InetAddress.getLocalHost(). 127.0.0.1 should point to 'localhost' (and probably also localhost.localdomain). It should NOT point to the actual host name of the machine (although for some reason, many older RedHat Linux installers liked to set it incorrectly).

How to read/write files in .Net Core?

FileStream fileStream = new FileStream("file.txt", FileMode.Open);

Regular expression to extract URL from an HTML link

Don't use regexes, use BeautifulSoup. That, or be so crufty as to spawn it out to, say, w3m/lynx and pull back in what w3m/lynx renders. First is more elegant probably, second just worked a heck of a lot faster on some unoptimized code I wrote a while back.

Conditional WHERE clause with CASE statement in Oracle

You can write the where clause as:

where (case when (:stateCode = '') then (1)
            when (:stateCode != '') and (vw.state_cd in (:stateCode)) then 1
            else 0)
       end) = 1;

Alternatively, remove the case entirely:

where (:stateCode = '') or
      ((:stateCode != '') and vw.state_cd in (:stateCode));

Or, even better:

where (:stateCode = '') or vw.state_cd in (:stateCode)

Windows 8.1 gets Error 720 on connect VPN

First I would like to thank Rose who was willing to help us, but your answer could solve the problem on a computer, but in others there was what was done could not always connect gets error 720. After much searching and contact the Microsoft support we can solve. In Device Manager, on the View menu, select to show hidden devices. Made it look for a remote Miniport IP or network monitor that is with warning of problems with the driver icon. In its properties in the details tab check the Key property of the driver. Look for this key in Regedit on Local Machine, make a backup of that key and delete it. Restart your windows. Reopen your device manager and select the miniport that had deleted the record. Activate the option to update the driver and look for the option driver on the computer manually and then use the option to locate the driver from the list available on the computer on the next screen uncheck show compatible hardware. Then you must select the Microsoft Vendor and the driver WAN Miniport the type that is changing, IP or IPV6 L2TP Network Monitor. After upgrading restart the computer.

I know it's a bit laborious but that was the only way that worked on all computers.

How to implement swipe gestures for mobile devices?

Good thing that it is much more light weight and fast then jQuery mobile. You can test it on their website as well.

How do I pass multiple parameter in URL?

You can pass multiple parameters as "?param1=value1&param2=value2"

But it's not secure. It's vulnerable to Cross Site Scripting (XSS) Attack.

Your parameter can be simply replaced with a script.

Have a look at this article and article

You can make it secure by using API of StringEscapeUtils

static String   escapeHtml(String str)
          Escapes the characters in a String using HTML entities.

Even using https url for security without above precautions is not a good practice.

Have a look at related SE question:

Is URLEncoder.encode(string, "UTF-8") a poor validation?

How to get current user, and how to use User class in MVC5?

Getting the Id is pretty straight forward and you've solved that.

Your second question though is a little more involved.

So, this is all prerelease stuff right now, but the common problem you're facing is where you're extending the user with new properties ( or an Items collection in you're question).

Out of the box you'll get a file called IdentityModel under the Models folder (at the time of writing). In there you have a couple of classes; ApplicationUser and ApplicationDbContext. To add your collection of Items you'll want to modify the ApplicationUser class, just like you would if this were a normal class you were using with Entity Framework. In fact, if you take a quick look under the hood you'll find that all the identity related classes (User, Role etc...) are just POCOs now with the appropriate data annotations so they play nice with EF6.

Next, you'll need to make some changes to the AccountController constructor so that it knows to use your DbContext.

public AccountController()
{
    IdentityManager = new AuthenticationIdentityManager(
    new IdentityStore(new ApplicationDbContext()));
}

Now getting the whole user object for your logged in user is a little esoteric to be honest.

    var userWithItems = (ApplicationUser)await IdentityManager.Store.Users
    .FindAsync(User.Identity.GetUserId(), CancellationToken.None);

That line will get the job done and you'll be able to access userWithItems.Items like you want.

What is the difference between Builder Design pattern and Factory Design pattern?

With design patterns, there usually is no "more advantageous" solution that works for all cases. It depends on what you need to implement.

From Wikipedia:

  • Builder focuses on constructing a complex object step by step. Abstract Factory emphasizes a family of product objects (either simple or complex). Builder returns the product as a final step, but as far as the Abstract Factory is concerned, the product gets returned immediately.
  • Builder often builds a Composite.
  • Often, designs start out using Factory Method (less complicated, more customizable, subclasses proliferate) and evolve toward Abstract Factory, Prototype, or Builder (more flexible, more complex) as the designer discovers where more flexibility is needed.
  • Sometimes creational patterns are complementary: Builder can use one of the other patterns to implement which components get built. Abstract Factory, Builder, and Prototype can use Singleton in their implementations.

How to check if iframe is loaded or it has a content?

I'm not sure if you can detect whether it's loaded or not, but you can fire an event once it's done loading:

$(function(){
    $('#myIframe').ready(function(){
        //your code (will be called once iframe is done loading)
    });
});

EDIT: As pointed out by Jesse Hallett, this will always fire when the iframe has loaded, even if it already has. So essentially, if the iframe has already loaded, the callback will execute immediately.

How do I measure execution time of a command on the Windows command line?

I'm using Windows XP and for some reason timeit.exe does not work for me. I found another alternative - PTIME. This works very well.

Example -

C:\> ptime

ptime 1.0 for Win32, Freeware - http://www.pc-tools.net/

Syntax: ptime command [arguments ...]

ptime will run the specified command and measure the execution time
(run time) in seconds, accurate to 5 millisecond or better. It is an
automatic process timer, or program timer.

C:\> ptime cd

Internet Explorer 11 disable "display intranet sites in compatibility view" via meta tag not working

For those who are building an ASP.NET MVC project, make sure that you add the:

tag into your Layout (template) page. I just spent two hours debugging and tweaking, only to realize that I had only added that meta tag into my child pages. As soon as I added it to my layout page, the browser loaded in EDGE mode perfectly.

How to reset / remove chrome's input highlighting / focus border?

You should be able to remove it using

outline: none;

but keep in mind this is potentially bad for usability: It will be hard to tell whether an element is focused, which can suck when you walk through all a form's elements using the Tab key - you should reflect somehow when an element is focused.

PHP array value passes to next row

Change the checkboxes so that the name includes the index inside the brackets:

<input type="checkbox" class="checkbox_veh" id="checkbox_addveh<?php echo $i; ?>" <?php if ($vehicle_feature[$i]->check) echo "checked"; ?> name="feature[<?php echo $i; ?>]" value="<?php echo $vehicle_feature[$i]->id; ?>">

The checkboxes that aren't checked are never submitted. The boxes that are checked get submitted, but they get numbered consecutively from 0, and won't have the same indexes as the other corresponding input fields.

How to store(bitmap image) and retrieve image from sqlite database in android?

Setting Up the database

public class DatabaseHelper extends SQLiteOpenHelper {
    // Database Version
    private static final int DATABASE_VERSION = 1;

    // Database Name
    private static final String DATABASE_NAME = "database_name";

    // Table Names
    private static final String DB_TABLE = "table_image";

    // column names
    private static final String KEY_NAME = "image_name";
    private static final String KEY_IMAGE = "image_data";

    // Table create statement
    private static final String CREATE_TABLE_IMAGE = "CREATE TABLE " + DB_TABLE + "("+
                       KEY_NAME + " TEXT," +
                       KEY_IMAGE + " BLOB);";

    public DatabaseHelper(Context context) {
        super(context, DATABASE_NAME, null, DATABASE_VERSION);
    }

    @Override
    public void onCreate(SQLiteDatabase db) {

        // creating table
        db.execSQL(CREATE_TABLE_IMAGE);
    }

    @Override
    public void onUpgrade(SQLiteDatabase db, int oldVersion, int newVersion) {
        // on upgrade drop older tables
        db.execSQL("DROP TABLE IF EXISTS " + DB_TABLE);

        // create new table
        onCreate(db);
    }
}

Insert in the Database:

public void addEntry( String name, byte[] image) throws SQLiteException{
    SQLiteDatabase database = this.getWritableDatabase();
    ContentValues cv = new  ContentValues();
    cv.put(KEY_NAME,    name);
    cv.put(KEY_IMAGE,   image);
    database.insert( DB_TABLE, null, cv );
}

Retrieving data:

 byte[] image = cursor.getBlob(1);

Note:

  1. Before inserting into database, you need to convert your Bitmap image into byte array first then apply it using database query.
  2. When retrieving from database, you certainly have a byte array of image, what you need to do is to convert byte array back to original image. So, you have to make use of BitmapFactory to decode.

Below is an Utility class which I hope could help you:

public class DbBitmapUtility {

    // convert from bitmap to byte array
    public static byte[] getBytes(Bitmap bitmap) {
        ByteArrayOutputStream stream = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
        bitmap.compress(CompressFormat.PNG, 0, stream);
        return stream.toByteArray();
    }

    // convert from byte array to bitmap
    public static Bitmap getImage(byte[] image) {
        return BitmapFactory.decodeByteArray(image, 0, image.length);
    }
}

How to set selected value on select using selectpicker plugin from bootstrap

A slight variation of blushrt's answer for when you do not have "hard coded" values for options (i.e. 1, 2, 3, 4 etc.)

Let's say you render a <select> with options values being GUIDs of some users. Then you will need to somehow extract the value of the option in order to set it on the <select>.

In the following we select the first option of the select.

HTML:

<select name="selValue" class="selectpicker">
   <option value="CD23E546-9BD8-40FD-BD9A-3E2CBAD81A39">Dennis</option>
   <option value="4DDCC643-0DE2-4B78-8393-33A716E3AFF4">Robert</option>
   <option value="D3017807-86E2-4E56-9F28-961202FFF095">George</option>
   <option value="991C2782-971E-41F8-B532-32E005F6A349">Ivanhoe</option>
</select>

Javascript:

// Initialize the select picker.
$('select[name=selValue]').selectpicker();

// Extract the value of the first option.
var sVal = $('select[name=selValue] option:first').val();

// Set the "selected" value of the <select>.
$('select[name=selValue]').val(sVal);

// Force a refresh.
$('select[name=selValue]').selectpicker('refresh');

We used this in a select with the multiple keyword <select multiple>. In this case nothing is selected per default, but we wanted the first item to always be selected.

Excel VBA For Each Worksheet Loop

Try to slightly modify your code:

Sub forEachWs()
    Dim ws As Worksheet
    For Each ws In ActiveWorkbook.Worksheets
        Call resizingColumns(ws)
    Next
End Sub

Sub resizingColumns(ws As Worksheet)
    With ws
        .Range("A:A").ColumnWidth = 20.14
        .Range("B:B").ColumnWidth = 9.71
        .Range("C:C").ColumnWidth = 35.86
        .Range("D:D").ColumnWidth = 30.57
        .Range("E:E").ColumnWidth = 23.57
        .Range("F:F").ColumnWidth = 21.43
        .Range("G:G").ColumnWidth = 18.43
        .Range("H:H").ColumnWidth = 23.86
        .Range("i:I").ColumnWidth = 27.43
        .Range("J:J").ColumnWidth = 36.71
        .Range("K:K").ColumnWidth = 30.29
        .Range("L:L").ColumnWidth = 31.14
        .Range("M:M").ColumnWidth = 31
        .Range("N:N").ColumnWidth = 41.14
        .Range("O:O").ColumnWidth = 33.86
    End With
End Sub

Note, resizingColumns routine takes parametr - worksheet to which Ranges belongs.

Basically, when you're using Range("O:O") - code operats with range from ActiveSheet, that's why you should use With ws statement and then .Range("O:O").

And there is no need to use global variables (unless you are using them somewhere else)

Autoincrement VersionCode with gradle extra properties

Here comes a modernization of my previous answer which can be seen below. This one is running with Gradle 4.4 and Android Studio 3.1.1.

What this script does:

  • Creates a version.properties file if none exists (up vote Paul Cantrell's answer below, which is where I got the idea from if you like this answer)
  • For each build, debug release or any time you press the run button in Android Studio the VERSION_BUILD number increases.
  • Every time you assemble a release your Android versionCode for the play store increases and your patch number increases.
  • Bonus: After the build is done copies your apk to projectDir/apk to make it more accessible.

This script will create a version number which looks like v1.3.4 (123) and build an apk file like AppName-v1.3.4.apk.

Major version ? ? Build version
             v1.3.4 (123)
  Minor version ^|^ Patch version

Major version: Has to be changed manually for bigger changes.

Minor version: Has to be changed manually for slightly less big changes.

Patch version: Increases when running gradle assembleRelease

Build version: Increases every build

Version Number: Same as Patch version, this is for the version code which Play Store needs to have increased for each new apk upload.

Just change the content in the comments labeled 1 - 3 below and the script should do the rest. :)

android {
    compileSdkVersion 27

INITIAL ANSWER:

I want the versionName to increase automatically as well. So this is just an addition to the answer by CommonsWare which worked perfectly for me. This is what works for me

defaultConfig {
    versionCode code
    versionName "1.1." + code
    minSdkVersion 14
    targetSdkVersion 18
}

EDIT:

As I am a bit lazy I want my versioning to work as automatically as possible. What I want is to have a Build Version that increases with each build, while the Version Number and Version Name only increases when I make a release build.

This is what I have been using for the past year, the basics are from CommonsWare's answer and my previous answer, plus some more. This results in the following versioning:

Version Name: 1.0.5 (123) --> Major.Minor.Patch (Build), Major and Minor are changed manually.

In build.gradle:

...
android {
    compileSdkVersion 23
    buildToolsVersion '23.0.1'
    def versionPropsFile = file('version.properties')
    if (versionPropsFile.canRead()) {
        def Properties versionProps = new Properties()

        versionProps.load(new FileInputStream(versionPropsFile))

        def value = 0

        def runTasks = gradle.startParameter.taskNames
        if ('assemble' in runTasks || 'assembleRelease' in runTasks || 'aR' in runTasks) {
            value = 1;
        }

        def versionMajor = 1
        def versionMinor = 0
        def versionPatch = versionProps['VERSION_PATCH'].toInteger() + value
        def versionBuild = versionProps['VERSION_BUILD'].toInteger() + 1
        def versionNumber = versionProps['VERSION_NUMBER'].toInteger() + value

        versionProps['VERSION_PATCH'] = versionPatch.toString()
        versionProps['VERSION_BUILD'] = versionBuild.toString()
        versionProps['VERSION_NUMBER'] = versionNumber.toString()

        versionProps.store(versionPropsFile.newWriter(), null)

        defaultConfig {
            versionCode versionNumber
            versionName "${versionMajor}.${versionMinor}.${versionPatch} (${versionBuild}) Release"
            minSdkVersion 14
            targetSdkVersion 23
        }

        applicationVariants.all { variant ->
            variant.outputs.each { output ->
                def fileNaming = "apk/RELEASES"
                variant.outputs.each { output ->
                    def outputFile = output.outputFile
                    if (outputFile != null && outputFile.name.endsWith('.apk')) {
                        output.outputFile = new File(getProject().getRootDir(), "${fileNaming}-${versionMajor}.${versionMinor}.${versionPatch}-${outputFile.name}")
                    }
                }
            }
        }

    } else {
        throw new GradleException("Could not read version.properties!")
    }

    ...
}

...

Patch and versionCode is increased if you assemble your project through the terminal with 'assemble', 'assembleRelease' or 'aR' which creates a new folder in your project root called apk/RELEASE so you don't have to look through build/outputs/more/more/more to find your apk.

Your version properties would need to look like this:

VERSION_NUMBER=1
VERSION_BUILD=645
VERSION_PATCH=1

Obviously start with 0. :)

Last segment of URL in jquery

I know it is old but if you want to get this from an URL you could simply use:

document.location.pathname.substring(document.location.pathname.lastIndexOf('/.') + 1);

document.location.pathname gets the pathname from the current URL. lastIndexOf get the index of the last occurrence of the following Regex, in our case is /.. The dot means any character, thus, it will not count if the / is the last character on the URL. substring will cut the string between two indexes.

Datatable vs Dataset

When you are only dealing with a single table anyway, the biggest practical difference I have found is that DataSet has a "HasChanges" method but DataTable does not. Both have a "GetChanges" however, so you can use that and test for null.

Android + Pair devices via bluetooth programmatically

Edit: I have just explained logic to pair here. If anybody want to go with the complete code then see my another answer. I have answered here for logic only but I was not able to explain properly, So I have added another answer in the same thread.

Try this to do pairing:

If you are able to search the devices then this would be your next step

ArrayList<BluetoothDevice> arrayListBluetoothDevices = NEW ArrayList<BluetoothDevice>;

I am assuming that you have the list of Bluetooth devices added in the arrayListBluetoothDevices:

BluetoothDevice bdDevice;
bdDevice = arrayListBluetoothDevices.get(PASS_THE_POSITION_TO_GET_THE_BLUETOOTH_DEVICE);

Boolean isBonded = false;
try {
isBonded = createBond(bdDevice);
if(isBonded)
{
    Log.i("Log","Paired");
}
} catch (Exception e)
{
    e.printStackTrace();
}

The createBond() method:

public boolean createBond(BluetoothDevice btDevice)
    throws Exception
    {
        Class class1 = Class.forName("android.bluetooth.BluetoothDevice");
        Method createBondMethod = class1.getMethod("createBond");
        Boolean returnValue = (Boolean) createBondMethod.invoke(btDevice);
        return returnValue.booleanValue();
    }

Add this line into your Receiver in the ACTION_FOUND

if (device.getBondState() != BluetoothDevice.BOND_BONDED) {
                    mNewDevicesArrayAdapter.add(device.getName() + "\n" + device.getAddress());
                    arrayListBluetoothDevices.add(device);
                }

get the margin size of an element with jquery

From jQuery's website

Shorthand CSS properties (e.g. margin, background, border) are not supported. For example, if you want to retrieve the rendered margin, use: $(elem).css('marginTop') and $(elem).css('marginRight'), and so on.

how to display toolbox on the left side of window of Visual Studio Express for windows phone 7 development?

I had this problem with Blend for Visual Studio 2015. The Toolbox would just not appear anymore. This turns out to be because Blend is not Visual Studio!

(You can edit your code in Blend and build and run it... It certainly seems like Visual Studio, but it isn't. I'm not sure what the purpose of Blend is...)

You can tell you are in Blend if the task bar icon has big "B" in it. To switch from Blend to Visual Studio, go to View-> Edit in Visual Studio.... It will open up another application that looks just like Blend, except the Solution Explorer is on the right instead of the left, and now you have a toolbox...

What regular expression will match valid international phone numbers?

\+(9[976]\d|8[987530]\d|6[987]\d|5[90]\d|42\d|3[875]\d|
2[98654321]\d|9[8543210]|8[6421]|6[6543210]|5[87654321]|
4[987654310]|3[9643210]|2[70]|7|1)\d{1,14}$

Is the correct format for matching a generic international phone number. I replaced the US land line centric international access code 011 with the standard international access code identifier of '+', making it mandatory. I also changed the minimum for the national number to at least one digit.

Note that if you enter numbers in this format into your mobile phone address book, you may successfully call any number in your address book no matter where you travel. For land lines, replace the plus with the international access code for the country you are dialing from.

Note that this DOES NOT take into account national number plan rules - specifically, it allows zeros and ones in locations that national number plans may not allow and also allows number lengths greater than the national number plan for some countries (e.g., the US).

Java GC (Allocation Failure)

"Allocation Failure" is cause of GC to kick is not correct. It is an outcome of GC operation.

GC kicks in when there is no space to allocate( depending on region minor or major GC is performed). Once GC is performed if space is freed good enough, but if there is not enough size it fails. Allocation Failure is one such failure. Below document have good explanation https://docs.oracle.com/javase/8/docs/technotes/guides/vm/gctuning/g1_gc.html

Add Favicon to Website

  1. This is not done in PHP. It's part of the <head> tags in a HTML page.
  2. That icon is called a favicon. According to Wikipedia:

    A favicon (short for favorites icon), also known as a shortcut icon, website icon, URL icon, or bookmark icon is a 16×16 or 32×32 pixel square icon associated with a particular website or webpage.

  3. Adding it is easy. Just add an .ico image file that is either 16x16 pixels or 32x32 pixels. Then, in the web pages, add <link rel="shortcut icon" href="favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon"> to the <head> element.
  4. You can easily generate favicons here.

How to resolve Value cannot be null. Parameter name: source in linq?

System.ArgumentNullException: Value cannot be null. Parameter name: value

This error message is not very helpful!

You can get this error in many different ways. The error may not always be with the parameter name: value. It could be whatever parameter name is being passed into a function.

As a generic way to solve this, look at the stack trace or call stack:

Test method GetApiModel threw exception:
System.ArgumentNullException: Value cannot be null.
Parameter name: value
    at Newtonsoft.Json.JsonConvert.DeserializeObject(String value, Type type, JsonSerializerSettings settings)

You can see that the parameter name value is the first parameter for DeserializeObject. This lead me to check my AutoMapper mapping where we are deserializing a JSON string. That string is null in my database.

You can change the code to check for null.

What does the 'static' keyword do in a class?

A field can be assigned to either the class or an instance of a class. By default fields are instance variables. By using static the field becomes a class variable, thus there is one and only one clock. If you make a changes in one place, it's visible everywhere. Instance varables are changed independently of one another.

Browser Caching of CSS files

To the first part of your question - yes, browsers cache css files (if this is not disabled by browser's configuration). Many browsers have key combination to reload a page without a cache. If you made changes to css and want users to see them immediately instead of waiting next time when browser reloads the files without caching, you can change the way CSS ir served by adding some parameters to the url like this:

/style.css?modified=20012009

Log4j, configuring a Web App to use a relative path

Tomcat sets a catalina.home system property. You can use this in your log4j properties file. Something like this:

log4j.rootCategory=DEBUG,errorfile

log4j.appender.errorfile.File=${catalina.home}/logs/LogFilename.log

On Debian (including Ubuntu), ${catalina.home} will not work because that points at /usr/share/tomcat6 which has no link to /var/log/tomcat6. Here just use ${catalina.base}.

If your using another container, try to find a similar system property, or define your own. Setting the system property will vary by platform, and container. But for Tomcat on Linux/Unix I would create a setenv.sh in the CATALINA_HOME/bin directory. It would contain:

export JAVA_OPTS="-Dcustom.logging.root=/var/log/webapps"

Then your log4j.properties would be:

log4j.rootCategory=DEBUG,errorfile

log4j.appender.errorfile.File=${custom.logging.root}/LogFilename.log

How do I sleep for a millisecond in Perl?

From perlfaq8:

How can I sleep() or alarm() for under a second?

If you want finer granularity than the 1 second that the sleep() function provides, the easiest way is to use the select() function as documented in select in perlfunc. Try the Time::HiRes and the BSD::Itimer modules (available from CPAN, and starting from Perl 5.8 Time::HiRes is part of the standard distribution).

Reading PDF content with itextsharp dll in VB.NET or C#

Using prepared statements with JDBCTemplate

I'd factor out the prepared statement handling to at least a method. In this case, because there are no results it is fairly simple (and assuming that the connection is an instance variable that doesn't change):

private PreparedStatement updateSales;
public void updateSales(int sales, String cof_name) throws SQLException {
    if (updateSales == null) {
        updateSales = con.prepareStatement(
            "UPDATE COFFEES SET SALES = ? WHERE COF_NAME LIKE ?");
    }
    updateSales.setInt(1, sales);
    updateSales.setString(2, cof_name);
    updateSales.executeUpdate();
}

At that point, it is then just a matter of calling:

updateSales(75, "Colombian");

Which is pretty simple to integrate with other things, yes? And if you call the method many times, the update will only be constructed once and that will make things much faster. Well, assuming you don't do crazy things like doing each update in its own transaction...

Note that the types are fixed. This is because for any particular query/update, they should be fixed so as to allow the database to do its job efficiently. If you're just pulling arbitrary strings from a CSV file, pass them in as strings. There's also no locking; far better to keep individual connections to being used from a single thread instead.

Setting a WebRequest's body data

The answers in this topic are all great. However i'd like to propose another one. Most likely you have been given an api and want that into your c# project. Using Postman, you can setup and test the api call there and once it runs properly, you can simply click 'Code' and the request that you have been working on, is written to a c# snippet. like this:

var client = new RestClient("https://api.XXXXX.nl/oauth/token");
client.Timeout = -1;
var request = new RestRequest(Method.POST);
request.AddHeader("Authorization", "Basic   N2I1YTM4************************************jI0YzJhNDg=");
request.AddHeader("Content-Type", "application/x-www-form-urlencoded");
request.AddHeader("Content-Type", "application/x-www-form-urlencoded");
request.AddParameter("grant_type", "password");
request.AddParameter("username", "[email protected]");
request.AddParameter("password", "XXXXXXXXXXXXX");
IRestResponse response = client.Execute(request);
Console.WriteLine(response.Content);

The code above depends on the nuget package RestSharp, which you can easily install.

SQL Server Configuration Manager not found

If you don't have any version of SQLServerManagerXX.msc, then you simply do not have it installed. I noticed it does not come with SQL server management studio 2019.

It's available (client-connectivity tools) in the SQL Server Express edition or SQL Server Developer edition which is good for dev/test (non-production) usage.

How to identify whether a grammar is LL(1), LR(0) or SLR(1)?

LL(1) grammar is Context free unambiguous grammar which can be parsed by LL(1) parsers.

In LL(1)

  • First L stands for scanning input from Left to Right. Second L stands for Left Most Derivation. 1 stands for using one input symbol at each step.

For Checking grammar is LL(1) you can draw predictive parsing table. And if you find any multiple entries in table then you can say grammar is not LL(1).

Their is also short cut to check if the grammar is LL(1) or not . Shortcut Technique

Read CSV with Scanner()

I have seen many production problems caused by code not handling quotes ("), newline characters within quotes, and quotes within the quotes; e.g.: "he said ""this""" should be parsed into: he said "this"

Like it was mentioned earlier, many CSV parsing examples out there just read a line, and then break up the line by the separator character. This is rather incomplete and problematic.

For me and probably those who prefer build verses buy (or use somebody else's code and deal with their dependencies), I got down to classic text parsing programming and that worked for me:

            {
                inQuotedValue = true;
                quoteAtStart = (value.length() == 0) ? true : false;
            }
            value.append((char)ch);
        }
    }
    return data.toArray(new String[0][]);

for (int rowIdx = 0; rowIdx < data.length; rowIdx++)
{
    System.out.println(Arrays.asList(data[rowIdx]));
}

generates the output:

[foo, , , bar, "music", carriage
return, new

Accessing SQL Database in Excel-VBA

Add set nocount on to the beginning of the stored proc (if you're on SQL Server). I just solved this problem in my own work and it was caused by intermediate results, such as "1203 Rows Affected", being loaded into the Recordset I was trying to use.

How to have the cp command create any necessary folders for copying a file to a destination

There is no such option. What you can do is to run mkdir -p before copying the file

I made a very cool script you can use to copy files in locations that doesn't exist

#!/bin/bash
if [ ! -d "$2" ]; then
    mkdir -p "$2"
fi
cp -R "$1" "$2"

Now just save it, give it permissions and run it using

./cp-improved SOURCE DEST

I put -R option but it's just a draft, I know it can be and you will improve it in many ways. Hope it helps you

Elevating process privilege programmatically?

You can indicate the new process should be started with elevated permissions by setting the Verb property of your startInfo object to 'runas', as follows:

startInfo.Verb = "runas";

This will cause Windows to behave as if the process has been started from Explorer with the "Run as Administrator" menu command.

This does mean the UAC prompt will come up and will need to be acknowledged by the user: if this is undesirable (for example because it would happen in the middle of a lengthy process), you'll need to run your entire host process with elevated permissions by Create and Embed an Application Manifest (UAC) to require the 'highestAvailable' execution level: this will cause the UAC prompt to appear as soon as your app is started, and cause all child processes to run with elevated permissions without additional prompting.

Edit: I see you just edited your question to state that "runas" didn't work for you. That's really strange, as it should (and does for me in several production apps). Requiring the parent process to run with elevated rights by embedding the manifest should definitely work, though.

Visual Studio 2013 error MS8020 Build tools v140 cannot be found

That's the platform toolset for VS2015. You uninstalled it, therefore it is no longer available.

To change your Platform Toolset:

  1. Right click your project, go to Properties.
  2. Under Configuration Properties, go to General.
  3. Change your Platform Toolset to one of the available ones.

Git push error '[remote rejected] master -> master (branch is currently checked out)'

Here is one test you can do to see how the bare server stuff work:

Imagine you have a workstation and a server with live site hosted on it, and you want to update this site from time to time (this also applies to a situation where two developers are sending their work back and forth through a bare middleman).

Initialization

Create some directory on your local computer and cd into it, then execute these commands:

# initialization
git init --bare server/.git
git clone server content
git clone server local
  1. First you create a bare server directory (notice the .git at the end). This directory will serve as a container for your repository files only.
  2. Then clone your server repository to a newly created content directory. This is your live/production directory which will be served by your server software.
  3. The first two directories resides on your server, the third one is a local directory on your workstation.

Workflow

Now here is the basic workflow:

  1. Enter the local directory, create some files and commit them. Finally push them to the server:

    # create crazy stuff
    git commit -av
    git push origin master

  2. Now enter the content directory and update the server's content:

    git pull

  3. Repeat 1-2. Here content may be another developer that can push to the server too, and local as you may pull from him.

Copy values from one column to another in the same table

What’s the best way to get an HTTP response code from a URL?

Here's a solution that uses httplib instead.

import httplib

def get_status_code(host, path="/"):
    """ This function retreives the status code of a website by requesting
        HEAD data from the host. This means that it only requests the headers.
        If the host cannot be reached or something else goes wrong, it returns
        None instead.
    """
    try:
        conn = httplib.HTTPConnection(host)
        conn.request("HEAD", path)
        return conn.getresponse().status
    except StandardError:
        return None

print get_status_code("stackoverflow.com") # prints 200
print get_status_code("stackoverflow.com", "/nonexistant") # prints 404

How to post pictures to instagram using API

If it has a UI, it has an "API". Let's use the following example: I want to publish the pic I use in any new blog post I create. Let's assume is Wordpress.

  1. Create a service that is constantly monitoring your blog via RSS.
  2. When a new blog post is posted, download the picture.
  3. (Optional) Use a third party API to apply some overlays and whatnot to your pic.
  4. Place the photo in a well-known location on your PC or server.
  5. Configure Chrome (read above) so that you can use the browser as a mobile.
  6. Using Selenium (or any other of those libraries), simulate the entire process of posting on Instagram.
  7. Done. You should have it.

Kotlin's List missing "add", "remove", Map missing "put", etc?

Agree with all above answers of using MutableList but you can also add/remove from List and get a new list as below.

val newListWithElement = existingList + listOf(element)
val newListMinusElement = existingList - listOf(element)

Or

val newListWithElement = existingList.plus(element)
val newListMinusElement = existingList.minus(element)

Javascript search inside a JSON object

You can simply save your data in a variable and use find(to get single object of records) or filter(to get single array of records) method of JavaScript.

For example :-

let data = {
 "list": [
   {"name":"my Name","id":12,"type":"car owner"},
   {"name":"my Name2","id":13,"type":"car owner2"},
   {"name":"my Name4","id":14,"type":"car owner3"},
   {"name":"my Name4","id":15,"type":"car owner5"}
]}

and now use below command onkeyup or enter

to get single object

data.list.find( record => record.name === "my Name")

to get single array object

data.list.filter( record => record.name === "my Name")
