How to prevent 'query timeout expired'? (SQLNCLI11 error '80040e31')

Turns out that the post (or rather the whole table) was locked by the very same connection that I tried to update the post with.

I had a opened record set of the post that was created by:

Set RecSet = Conn.Execute()

This type of recordset is supposed to be read-only and when I was using MS Access as database it did not lock anything. But apparently this type of record set did lock something on MS SQL Server 2012 because when I added these lines of code before executing the UPDATE SQL statement...

RecSet.Close
Set RecSet = Nothing

...everything worked just fine.

So bottom line is to be careful with opened record sets - even if they are read-only they could lock your table from updates.

How to Detect Browser Window /Tab Close Event?

You can't detect it with javascript.

Only events that do detect page unloading/closing are window.onbeforeunload and window.unload. Neither of these events can tell you the way that you closed the page.

Getting "method not valid without suitable object" error when trying to make a HTTP request in VBA?

Windows could not start the SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER) on Local Computer... (error code 3417)

Run this command after opening cmd as administrator

net start mssqlserver /T902

This command is called trace flag 902. It is used to bypass script upgrade mode. Every time when you try to start your sql service it also looks for script upgrades. and when the script upgrade fail your service unable to start. So, Whenever we have such upgrade script failure issue and SQL is not getting started, we need to use trace flag 902 to start SQL.

I hope this will help you..

SQL Server 2008 Connection Error "No process is on the other end of the pipe"

One follow up to this. I had installed SQL Server 2014 with only Windows Authentication. After enabling Mixed Mode, I couldn't log in with a SQL user and got the same error message as the original poster. I verified that named pipes were enabled but still couldn't log in after several restarts. Using 127.0.0.1 instead of the hostname allowed me to log in, but interestingly, required a password reset prompt on first login:

SQL Server Password Reset Prompt

Once I reset the password the account worked. What's odd, is I specifically disabled password policy and expiration.

HTML: Is it possible to have a FORM tag in each TABLE ROW in a XHTML valid way?

I had a similar question and this answer in question HTML: table of forms? solved it for me. (Not sure if it is XHTML, but it works in an HTML5 browser.)

You can use css to give table layout to other elements.

.table { display: table; }
.table>* { display: table-row; }
.table>*>* { display: table-cell; }

Then you use the following valid html.

<div class="table">
    <form>
        <div>snake<input type="hidden" name="cartitem" value="55"></div>
        <div><input name="count" value="4" /></div>
    </form>
</div>

Deserialize JSON to ArrayList<POJO> using Jackson

This works for me.

@Test
public void cloneTest() {
    List<Part> parts = new ArrayList<Part>();
    Part part1 = new Part(1);
    parts.add(part1);
    Part part2 = new Part(2);
    parts.add(part2);
    try {
        ObjectMapper objectMapper = new ObjectMapper();
        String jsonStr = objectMapper.writeValueAsString(parts);

        List<Part> cloneParts = objectMapper.readValue(jsonStr, new TypeReference<ArrayList<Part>>() {});
    } catch (Exception e) {
        //fail("failed.");
        e.printStackTrace();
    }

    //TODO: Assert: compare both list values.
}

C++ preprocessor __VA_ARGS__ number of arguments

If you are using C++11, and you need the value as a C++ compile-time constant, a very elegant solution is this:

#include <tuple>

#define MACRO(...) \
    std::cout << "num args: " \
    << std::tuple_size<decltype(std::make_tuple(__VA_ARGS__))>::value \
    << std::endl;

Please note: the counting happens entirely at compile time, and the value can be used whenever compile-time integer is required, for instance as a template parameter to std::array.

Sql Server trigger insert values from new row into another table

In a SQL Server trigger you have available two psdeuotables called inserted and deleted. These contain the old and new values of the record.

So within the trigger (you can look up the create trigger parts easily) you would do something like this:

Insert table2 (user_id, user_name)
select user_id, user_name from inserted i
left join table2 t on i.user_id = t.userid
where t.user_id is null

When writing triggers remember they act once on the whole batch of information, they do not process row-by-row. So account for multiple row inserts in your code.

Changing the Git remote 'push to' default

Get the correct week number of a given date

In .NET 3.0 and later you can use the ISOWeek.GetWeekOfDate-Method.

Note that the year in the year + week number format might differ from the year of the DateTime because of weeks that cross the year boundary.

Difference Between $.getJSON() and $.ajax() in jQuery

There is lots of confusion in some of the function of jquery like $.ajax, $.get, $.post, $.getScript, $.getJSON that what is the difference among them which is the best, which is the fast, which to use and when so below is the description of them to make them clear and to get rid of this type of confusions.

$.getJSON() function is a shorthand Ajax function (internally use $.get() with data type script), which is equivalent to below expression, Uses some limited criteria like Request type is GET and data Type is json.

According to the official documentation, a click on any link in WebView launches an application that handles URLs, which by default is a browser. You need to override the default behavior like this

Merging two arrayLists into a new arrayList, with no duplicates and in order, in Java

I'm not sure why your current code is failing (what is the Exception you get?), but I would like to point out this approach performs O(N-squared). Consider pre-sorting your input arrays (if they are not defined to be pre-sorted) and merging the sorted arrays:

http://www.algolist.net/Algorithms/Merge/Sorted_arrays

Sorting is generally O(N logN) and the merge is O(m+n).

Determine installed PowerShell version

Since the most helpful answer didn't address the if exists portion, I thought I'd give one take on it via a quick-and-dirty solution. It relies on PowerShell being in the path environment variable which is likely what you want. (Hat tip to the top answer as I didn't know that.) Paste this into a text file and name it

Test Powershell Version.cmd

or similar.

What's the difference between MyISAM and InnoDB?

The main differences between InnoDB and MyISAM ("with respect to designing a table or database" you asked about) are support for "referential integrity" and "transactions".

If you need the database to enforce foreign key constraints, or you need the database to support transactions (i.e. changes made by two or more DML operations handled as single unit of work, with all of the changes either applied, or all the changes reverted) then you would choose the InnoDB engine, since these features are absent from the MyISAM engine.

Those are the two biggest differences. Another big difference is concurrency. With MyISAM, a DML statement will obtain an exclusive lock on the table, and while that lock is held, no other session can perform a SELECT or a DML operation on the table.

Those two specific engines you asked about (InnoDB and MyISAM) have different design goals. MySQL also has other storage engines, with their own design goals.

So, in choosing between InnoDB and MyISAM, the first step is in determining if you need the features provided by InnoDB. If not, then MyISAM is up for consideration.

A more detailed discussion of differences is rather impractical (in this forum) absent a more detailed discussion of the problem space... how the application will use the database, how many tables, size of the tables, the transaction load, volumes of select, insert, updates, concurrency requirements, replication features, etc.

The logical design of the database should be centered around data analysis and user requirements; the choice to use a relational database would come later, and even later would the choice of MySQL as a relational database management system, and then the selection of a storage engine for each table.

Notepad++ add to every line

You can automatically do it in Notepad++ (add text at the beginning and/or end of each line) by using one regular expression in Replace (Ctrl+H):

enter image description here

Explanation: Expression $1 in Replace with input denotes all the characters that include the round brackets (.*) in Find what regular expressin.

Tested, it works.

Hope that helps.

Pad a string with leading zeros so it's 3 characters long in SQL Server 2008

Wrote this because I had requirements for up to a specific length (9). Pads the left with the @pattern ONLY when the input needs padding. Should always return length defined in @pattern.

declare @charInput as char(50) = 'input'

--always handle NULL :)
set @charInput = isnull(@charInput,'')

declare @actualLength as int = len(@charInput)

declare @pattern as char(50) = '123456789'
declare @prefLength as int = len(@pattern)

if @prefLength > @actualLength
    select Left(Left(@pattern, @prefLength-@actualLength) + @charInput, @prefLength)
else
    select @charInput

Returns 1234input

Remove certain characters from a string

One issue with REPLACE will be where city names contain the district name. You can use something like.

SELECT SUBSTRING(O.Ort, LEN(C.CityName) + 2, 8000)
FROM   dbo.tblOrtsteileGeo O
       JOIN dbo.Cities C
         ON C.foo = O.foo
WHERE  O.GKZ = '06440004'

Python check if list items are integers?

Fast, simple, but maybe not always right:

['1', '2', '3', '4']

More traditional if you need to get numbers:

for value in mylist:
    try:
        new_list.append(int(value))
    except ValueError:
        continue

Note: The result has integers. Convert them back to strings if needed, replacing the lines above with:

try:
    new_list.append(str(int(value)))

use Lodash to sort array of object by value

You can use lodash sortBy (https://lodash.com/docs/4.17.4#sortBy).

Your code could be like:

      "name":"Anakin Skywalker",

   },
   {
      "id":1,
      "name":"Luke Skywalker",
      "createdAt":"2017-04-12T11:25:03.000Z",
      "updatedAt":"2017-04-12T11:25:03.000Z"
   }
]

const myOrderedArray = _.sortBy(myArray, o => o.name)

Send request to curl with post data sourced from a file

You're looking for the --data-binary argument:

curl -i -X POST host:port/post-file \
  -H "Content-Type: text/xml" \
  --data-binary "@path/to/file"

In the example above, -i prints out all the headers so that you can see what's going on, and -X POST makes it explicit that this is a post. Both of these can be safely omitted without changing the behaviour on the wire. The path to the file needs to be preceded by an @ symbol, so curl knows to read from a file.

How do I start my app on startup?

This is how to make an activity start running after android device reboot:

Insert this code in your AndroidManifest.xml file, within the <application> element (not within the <activity> element):

<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED" />

<receiver
    android:enabled="true"
    android:exported="true"
    android:name="yourpackage.yourActivityRunOnStartup"
    android:permission="android.permission.RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED">

    <intent-filter>
        <action android:name="android.intent.action.BOOT_COMPLETED" />
        <action android:name="android.intent.action.QUICKBOOT_POWERON" />
        <category android:name="android.intent.category.DEFAULT" />
    </intent-filter>

</receiver>

Then create a new class yourActivityRunOnStartup (matching the android:name specified for the <receiver> element in the manifest):

package yourpackage;

import android.content.BroadcastReceiver;
import android.content.Context;
import android.content.Intent;

public class yourActivityRunOnStartup extends BroadcastReceiver {

    @Override
    public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent) {
        if (intent.getAction().equals(Intent.ACTION_BOOT_COMPLETED)) {
            Intent i = new Intent(context, MainActivity.class);
            i.addFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK);
            context.startActivity(i);
        }
    }

}

Note: The call i.addFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK); is important because the activity is launched from a context outside the activity. Without this, the activity will not start.

Also, the values android:enabled, android:exported and android:permission in the <receiver> tag do not seem mandatory. The app receives the event without these values. See the example here.

How to change PHP version used by composer

You can change php version of composer without uninstalling it, follow these steps :

  1. Search for system environment variables in cortana.
  2. Click on the button "Environment variables".
  3. Under "System variables" select path and click on edit, you will see one entry like this "C:\wamp\bin\php\php5.6.13".
  4. Just change this to the folder name of the php located at your wamp/bin/php7.1.9, here php7.1.9 is folder name.
  5. Replace php5.6.13 with bin7.1.9, it will look like these "C:\wamp\bin\php\php7.1.9", just click ok on all the boxes.

What is the difference between an interface and abstract class?

Key Points:

  • Abstract class can have property, Data fields ,Methods (complete / incomplete) both.
  • If method or Properties define in abstract keyword that must override in derived class.(its work as a tightly coupled functionality)
  • If define abstract keyword for method or properties in abstract class you can not define body of method and get/set value for properties and that must override in derived class.
  • Abstract class does not support multiple inheritance.
  • Abstract class contains Constructors.
  • An abstract class can contain access modifiers for the subs, functions, properties.
  • Only Complete Member of abstract class can be Static.
  • An interface can inherit from another interface only and cannot inherit from an abstract class, where as an abstract class can inherit from another abstract class or another interface.

Advantage:

  • It is a kind of contract that forces all the subclasses to carry on the same hierarchies or standards.
  • If various implementations are of the same kind and use common behavior or status then abstract class is better to use.
  • If we add a new method to an abstract class then we have the option of providing default implementation and therefore all the existing code might work properly.
  • Its allow fast execution than interface.(interface Requires more time to find the actual method in the corresponding classes.)
  • It can use for tight and loosely coupling.

Looping through list items with jquery

To solve this without jQuery .each() you'd have to fix your code like this:

var listItems = $("#productList").find("li");
var ind, len, product;

for ( ind = 0, len = listItems.length; ind < len; ind++ ) {
    product = $(listItems[ind]);

    // ...
}

Bugs in your original code:

  1. for ... in will also loop through all inherited properties; i.e. you will also get a list of all functions that are defined by jQuery.

  2. The loop variable li is not the list item, but the index to the list item. In that case the index is a normal array index (i.e. an integer)

Basically you are save to use .each() as it is more comfortable, but espacially when you are looping bigger arrays the code in this answer will be much faster.

For other alternatives to .each() you can check out this performance comparison: http://jsperf.com/browser-diet-jquery-each-vs-for-loop

What is the best way to compare floats for almost-equality in Python?

The common wisdom that floating-point numbers cannot be compared for equality is inaccurate. Floating-point numbers are no different from integers: If you evaluate "a == b", you will get true if they are identical numbers and false otherwise (with the understanding that two NaNs are of course not identical numbers).

The actual problem is this: If I have done some calculations and am not sure the two numbers I have to compare are exactly correct, then what? This problem is the same for floating-point as it is for integers. If you evaluate the integer expression "7/3*3", it will not compare equal to "7*3/3".

So suppose we asked "How do I compare integers for equality?" in such a situation. There is no single answer; what you should do depends on the specific situation, notably what sort of errors you have and what you want to achieve.

Here are some possible choices.

If you want to get a "true" result if the mathematically exact numbers would be equal, then you might try to use the properties of the calculations you perform to prove that you get the same errors in the two numbers. If that is feasible, and you compare two numbers that result from expressions that would give equal numbers if computed exactly, then you will get "true" from the comparison. Another approach is that you might analyze the properties of the calculations and prove that the error never exceeds a certain amount, perhaps an absolute amount or an amount relative to one of the inputs or one of the outputs. In that case, you can ask whether the two calculated numbers differ by at most that amount, and return "true" if they are within the interval. If you cannot prove an error bound, you might guess and hope for the best. One way of guessing is to evaluate many random samples and see what sort of distribution you get in the results.

Of course, since we only set the requirement that you get "true" if the mathematically exact results are equal, we left open the possibility that you get "true" even if they are unequal. (In fact, we can satisfy the requirement by always returning "true". This makes the calculation simple but is generally undesirable, so I will discuss improving the situation below.)

If you want to get a "false" result if the mathematically exact numbers would be unequal, you need to prove that your evaluation of the numbers yields different numbers if the mathematically exact numbers would be unequal. This may be impossible for practical purposes in many common situations. So let us consider an alternative.

A useful requirement might be that we get a "false" result if the mathematically exact numbers differ by more than a certain amount. For example, perhaps we are going to calculate where a ball thrown in a computer game traveled, and we want to know whether it struck a bat. In this case, we certainly want to get "true" if the ball strikes the bat, and we want to get "false" if the ball is far from the bat, and we can accept an incorrect "true" answer if the ball in a mathematically exact simulation missed the bat but is within a millimeter of hitting the bat. In that case, we need to prove (or guess/estimate) that our calculation of the ball's position and the bat's position have a combined error of at most one millimeter (for all positions of interest). This would allow us to always return "false" if the ball and bat are more than a millimeter apart, to return "true" if they touch, and to return "true" if they are close enough to be acceptable.

So, how you decide what to return when comparing floating-point numbers depends very much on your specific situation.

As to how you go about proving error bounds for calculations, that can be a complicated subject. Any floating-point implementation using the IEEE 754 standard in round-to-nearest mode returns the floating-point number nearest to the exact result for any basic operation (notably multiplication, division, addition, subtraction, square root). (In case of tie, round so the low bit is even.) (Be particularly careful about square root and division; your language implementation might use methods that do not conform to IEEE 754 for those.) Because of this requirement, we know the error in a single result is at most 1/2 of the value of the least significant bit. (If it were more, the rounding would have gone to a different number that is within 1/2 the value.)

Going on from there gets substantially more complicated; the next step is performing an operation where one of the inputs already has some error. For simple expressions, these errors can be followed through the calculations to reach a bound on the final error. In practice, this is only done in a few situations, such as working on a high-quality mathematics library. And, of course, you need precise control over exactly which operations are performed. High-level languages often give the compiler a lot of slack, so you might not know in which order operations are performed.

There is much more that could be (and is) written about this topic, but I have to stop there. In summary, the answer is: There is no library routine for this comparison because there is no single solution that fits most needs that is worth putting into a library routine. (If comparing with a relative or absolute error interval suffices for you, you can do it simply without a library routine.)

Flutter : Vertically center column

Solution as proposed by Aziz would be:

Column(
  mainAxisAlignment: MainAxisAlignment.center,
  crossAxisAlignment: CrossAxisAlignment.center,
  children:children,
)

It would not be in the exact center because of padding:

padding: new EdgeInsets.all(25.0),

To make exactly center Column - at least in this case - you would need to remove padding.

$pdf->MultiCell( 200, 40, $reportSubtitle, 1);

Line Height:

What multiCell does is to spread the given text into multiple cells, this means that the second parameter defines the height of each line (individual cell) and not the height of all cells (collectively).

MultiCell(float w, float h, string txt [, mixed border [, string align [, boolean fill]]])

Writing an mp4 video using python opencv

There are some things to change in your code:

  1. Change the name of your output to 'output.mp4' (change to .mp4)
  2. I had the the same issues that people have in the comments, so I changed the fourcc to 0x7634706d: out = cv2.VideoWriter('output.mp4',0x7634706d , 20.0, (640,480))

How is CountDownLatch used in Java Multithreading?

package practice;

import java.util.concurrent.CountDownLatch;

public class CountDownLatchExample {

    public static void main(String[] args) throws InterruptedException {
        CountDownLatch c= new CountDownLatch(3); // need to decrements the count (3) to zero by calling countDown() method so that main thread will wake up after calling await() method
        Task t = new Task(c);
        Task t1 = new Task(c);
        Task t2 = new Task(c);
        t.start();
        t1.start();
        t2.start();
        c.await(); // when count becomes zero main thread will wake up

What's the yield keyword in JavaScript?

It's Really Simple, This is how it works

  • yield keyword simply helps to pause and resume a function in any time asynchronously.
  • Additionally it helps to return value from a generator function.

Take this simple generator function:

function* process() {
    console.log('Start process 1');
    console.log('Pause process2 until call next()');

    yield;

    console.log('Resumed process2');
    console.log('Pause process3 until call next()');

    let parms = yield {age: 12};
    console.log("Passed by final process next(90): " + parms);

    console.log('Resumed process3');
    console.log('End of the process function');
}

let _process = process();

Until you call the _process.next() it wont execute the first 2 lines of code, then the first yield will pause the function. To resume the function until next pause point (yield keyword) you need to call _process.next().

You can think multiple yields are the breakpoints in a javascript debugger within a single function. Until you tell to navigate next breakpoint it wont execute the code block. (Note: without blocking the whole application)

But while yield performs this pause and resume behaviours it can return some results as well {value: any, done: boolean} according to the previous function we haven't emit any values. If we explore the previous output it will show the same { value: undefined, done: false } with value undefined.

Lets dig in to the yield keyword. Optionally you can add expression and set assign a default optional value. (Official doc syntax)

[rv] = yield [expression];

expression: Value to return from the generator function

yield any;
yield {age: 12};

rv: Returns the optional value that passed to the generator's next() method

Simply you can pass parameters to process() function with this mechanism, to execute different yield parts.

let val = yield 99;

_process.next(10);
now the val will be 10

Try It Now

Usages

  • Lazy evaluation
  • Infinite sequences
  • Asynchronous control flows

LaTeX "\indent" creating paragraph indentation / tabbing package requirement?

LaTeX will usually not indent the first paragraph of a section. This is standard typographical practice. However, if you really want to override this default setting, use the package indentfirst available on CTAN.

There might be a semicolon or bracket missing a line before your pasted line.

It seems fine to me; every string is allowed as an array index.

Checkout remote branch using git svn

Standard Subversion layout

Create a git clone of that includes your Subversion trunk, tags, and branches with

git svn clone http://svn.example.com/project -T trunk -b branches -t tags

The --stdlayout option is a nice shortcut if your Subversion repository uses the typical structure:

git svn clone http://svn.example.com/project --stdlayout

Make your git repository ignore everything the subversion repo does:

git svn show-ignore >> .git/info/exclude

You should now be able to see all the Subversion branches on the git side:

git branch -r

Say the name of the branch in Subversion is waldo. On the git side, you'd run

git checkout -b waldo-svn remotes/waldo

The -svn suffix is to avoid warnings of the form

warning: refname 'waldo' is ambiguous.

To update the git branch waldo-svn, run

git checkout waldo-svn
git svn rebase

Starting from a trunk-only checkout

To add a Subversion branch to a trunk-only clone, modify your git repository's .git/config to contain

[svn-remote "svn-mybranch"]
        url = http://svn.example.com/project/branches/mybranch
        fetch = :refs/remotes/mybranch

You'll need to develop the habit of running

git svn fetch --fetch-all

to update all of what git svn thinks are separate remotes. At this point, you can create and track branches as above. For example, to create a git branch that corresponds to mybranch, run

git checkout -b mybranch-svn remotes/mybranch

For the branches from which you intend to git svn dcommit, keep their histories linear!

How do I add an existing directory tree to a project in Visual Studio?

In Visual Studio 2017, you switch between Solution View and Folder View back and forth. I think this is a better option, because it will keep the solution cleaner. I use this to edit .gitignore, .md files, etc.

Shell script "for" loop syntax

These all do {1..8} and should all be POSIX. They also will not break if you put a conditional continue in the loop. The canonical way:

f=
while [ $((f+=1)) -le 8 ]
do
  echo $f
done

Another way:

g=
while
  g=${g}1
  [ ${#g} -le 8 ]
do
  echo ${#g}
done

and another:

set --
while
  set $* .
  [ ${#} -le 8 ]
do
  echo ${#}
done

Using "If cell contains" in VBA excel

Requirement:
Find a cell containing the word TOTAL then to enter a dash in the cell below it.

Solution: This solution uses the Find method of the Range object, as it seems appropriate to use it rather than brute force (For…Next loop). For explanation and details about the method see Range.Find method (Excel)

Implementation:
In order to provide flexibility the Find method is wrapped in this function:

Function Range_ƒFind_Action(sWhat As String, rTrg As Range) As Boolean

Where:
sWhat: contains the string to search for
rTrg: is the range to be searched

The function returns True if any match is found, otherwise it returns False

Additionally, every time the function finds a match it passes the resulting range to the procedure Range_Find_Action to execute the required action, (i.e. "enter a dash in the cell below it"). The "required action" is in a separated procedure to allow for customization and flexibility.

This is how the function is called:

This test is searching for "total" to show the effect of the MatchCase:=False. The match can be made case sensitive by changing it to MatchCase:=True

Sub Range_Find_Action_TEST()
Dim sWhat As String, rTrg As Range
Dim sMsgbdy As String
    sWhat = "total" 'String to search for (update as required)
    Rem Set rTrg = ThisWorkbook.Worksheets("Sht(0)").UsedRange 'Range to Search (use this to search all used cells)
    Set rTrg = ThisWorkbook.Worksheets("Sht(0)").Rows(6) 'Range to Search (update as required)
    sMsgbdy = IIf(Range_ƒFind_Action(sWhat, rTrg), _
        "Cells found were updated successfully", _
        "No cells were found.")
    MsgBox sMsgbdy, vbInformation, "Range_ƒFind_Action"
    End Sub

This is the Find function

Function Range_ƒFind_Action(sWhat As String, rTrg As Range) As Boolean
Dim rCll As Range, s1st As String
    With rTrg

        Rem Set First Cell Found
        Set rCll = .Find(What:=sWhat, After:=.Cells(1), _
            LookIn:=xlFormulas, LookAt:=xlPart, _
            SearchOrder:=xlByRows, SearchDirection:=xlNext, _
            MatchCase:=False, SearchFormat:=False)

        Rem Validate First Cell
        If rCll Is Nothing Then Exit Function
        s1st = rCll.Address

        Rem Perform Action
        Call Range_Find_Action(rCll)

        Do
            Rem Find Other Cells
            Set rCll = .FindNext(After:=rCll)
            Rem Validate Cell vs 1st Cell
            If rCll.Address <> s1st Then Call Range_Find_Action(rCll)

        Loop Until rCll.Address = s1st

    End With

    Rem Set Results
    Range_ƒFind_Action = True

    End Function

This is the Action procedure

Sub Range_Find_Action(rCll)
    rCll.Offset(1).Value2 = Chr(167) 'Update as required - Using `§` instead of "-" for visibilty purposes
    End Sub

Absolute and Flexbox in React Native

Ok, solved my problem, if anyone is passing by here is the answer:

Just had to add left: 0, and top: 0, to the styles, and yes, I'm tired.

position: 'absolute',

top:      0,

How to position a DIV in a specific coordinates?

You can also use position fixed css property.

<!-- html code -->
<div class="box" id="myElement"></div>

/* css code */
.box {
    position: fixed;
}

// js code

document.getElementById('myElement').style.top = 0; //or whatever
document.getElementById('myElement').style.left = 0; // or whatever

How can I get the full/absolute URL (with domain) in Django?

request.get_host() will give you the domain.

how to print an exception using logger?

You should probably clarify which logger are you using.

org.apache.commons.logging.Log interface has method void error(Object message, Throwable t) (and method void info(Object message, Throwable t)), which logs the stack trace together with your custom message. Log4J implementation has this method too.

So, probably you need to write:

logger.error("BOOM!", e);

If you need to log it with INFO level (though, it might be a strange use case), then:

logger.info("Just a stack trace, nothing to worry about", e);

Hope it helps.

Vertical align middle with Bootstrap responsive grid

How to get the index of an element in an IEnumerable?

This can get really cool with an extension (functioning as a proxy), for example:

collection.SelectWithIndex();
// vs.
collection.Select((item, index) => item);

Which will automagically assign indexes to the collection accessible via this Index property.

Interface:

public interface IIndexable
{
    int Index { get; set; }
}

Custom extension (probably most useful for working with EF and DbContext):

public static class EnumerableXtensions
{
    public static IEnumerable<TModel> SelectWithIndex<TModel>(
        this IEnumerable<TModel> collection) where TModel : class, IIndexable
    {
        return collection.Select((item, index) =>
        {
            item.Index = index;
            return item;
        });
    }
}

public class SomeModelDTO : IIndexable
{
    public Guid Id { get; set; }
    public string Name { get; set; }
    public decimal Price { get; set; }

    public int Index { get; set; }
}

// In a method
var items = from a in db.SomeTable
            where a.Id == someValue
            select new SomeModelDTO
            {
                Id = a.Id,
                Name = a.Name,
                Price = a.Price
            };

return items.SelectWithIndex()
            .OrderBy(m => m.Name)
            .Skip(pageStart)
            .Take(pageSize)
            .ToList();

How to index characters in a Golang string?

Another Solution to isolate a character in a string

package main
import "fmt"

   func main() {
        var word string = "ZbjTS"

       // P R I N T
       fmt.Println(word)
       yo := string([]rune(word)[0])
       fmt.Println(yo)

       //I N D E X
       x :=0
       for x < len(word){
           yo := string([]rune(word)[x])
           fmt.Println(yo)
           x+=1
       }

}

for string arrays also:

fmt.Println(string([]rune(sArray[0])[0]))

// = commented line

Execute PHP function with onclick

You will have to do this via AJAX. I HEAVILY reccommend you use jQuery to make this easier for you....

$("#idOfElement").on('click', function(){

    $.ajax({
       url: 'pathToPhpFile.php',
       dataType: 'json',
       success: function(data){
            //data returned from php
       }
    });
)};

How to disable XDebug

I ran into a similar issue. Sometimes, you wont find xdebug.so in php.ini. In which case, execute phpinfo() in a php file and check for Additional .ini files parsed. Here you'll see more ini files. One of these will be xdebug's ini file. Just remove (or rename) this file, restart apache, and this extension will be removed.

Owl Carousel, making custom navigation

The following code works for me on owl carousel .

https://github.com/OwlFonk/OwlCarousel

$(".owl-carousel").owlCarousel({
    items: 1,
    autoplay: true,
    navigation: true,
    navigationText: ["<i class='fa fa-angle-left'></i>", "<i class='fa fa-angle-right'></i>"]
});

For OwlCarousel2

https://owlcarousel2.github.io/OwlCarousel2/docs/api-options.html

 $(".owl-carousel").owlCarousel({
    items: 1,
    autoplay: true,
    nav: true,
    navText: ["<i class='fa fa-angle-left'></i>", "<i class='fa fa-angle-right'></i>"]
});

Example: Communication between Activity and Service using Messaging

Great tutorial, fantastic presentation. Neat, simple, short and very explanatory. Although, notification.setLatestEventInfo(this, getText(R.string.service_label), text, contentIntent); method is no more. As trante stated here, good approach would be:

private static final int NOTIFICATION_ID = 45349;

private void showNotification() {
    NotificationCompat.Builder builder =
            new NotificationCompat.Builder(this)
                    .setSmallIcon(R.mipmap.ic_launcher)
                    .setContentTitle("My Notification Title")
                    .setContentText("Something interesting happened");

    Intent targetIntent = new Intent(this, MainActivity.class);
    PendingIntent contentIntent = PendingIntent.getActivity(this, 0, targetIntent, PendingIntent.FLAG_UPDATE_CURRENT);
    builder.setContentIntent(contentIntent);
    _nManager = (NotificationManager) getSystemService(Context.NOTIFICATION_SERVICE);
    _nManager.notify(NOTIFICATION_ID, builder.build());
}

@Override
public void onDestroy() {
    super.onDestroy();
    if (_timer != null) {_timer.cancel();}
    _counter=0;
    _nManager.cancel(NOTIFICATION_ID); // Cancel the persistent notification.
    Log.i("PlaybackService", "Service Stopped.");
    _isRunning = false;
}

Checked myself, everything works like a charm (activity and service names may differ from original).

How do I empty an input value with jQuery?

You could try:

Ineligible Devices section appeared in Xcode 6.x.x

With the release of Xcode 6.3.1, check first the Update 5

  1. Verify that "iOS Deployment Target" is <= the version of your iDevice.

enter image description here

You find this option in "Build Settings" tab when you click on a target of your project in Xcode.

enter image description here

  1. Then if does not work, try to restart Xcode. Sometimes we have to restart the Mac and iPhone/iPad. Take a look at the Updates below before restarting Xcode

  2. Update: in Yosemite, Xcode 6.0.1 does not support iOS 8.1, you have to update to Xcode 6.1 if you want to debug on iOS 8.1 device, or you will probably have the same problem as described in the topic

  3. Update 2: Xcode Beta 6.3 does not support iOS 8.2 (and also 8.1 - thanks @steveb). You won't see your device in deploy target list. I don't know if other versions are supported.

  4. Update 3. Use Xcode 6.2 instead of Xcode 6.3 beta in order to debug with a device running iOS 8.2

  5. Updated 4 : for Xcode 6.3 (and eventually 6.3 beta if someone use it :) ), if you have this problem, just go to Product > Destination to select your device. Even though it says your device is ineligible, it will still allow you to select it. If your device version is >= target version, the build should work. It must be a bug for Xcode 6.3 in debug with iOS 8.3 (or maybe other iOS version) (thanks @einfach).

enter image description here

  1. Update 5: Apple released Xcode 6.3.1 that fix the issue of ineligible device. If you have this problem with Xcode 6.3, upgrade to XCode 6.3.1

From Release Notes (Xcode 6.3.1):

Fixed: Devices previously listed as "ineligible for running” erroneously are listed correctly. (20121178)

How do I tell Maven to use the latest version of a dependency?

The truth is even in 3.x it still works, surprisingly the projects builds and deploys. But the LATEST/RELEASE keyword causing problems in m2e and eclipse all over the place, ALSO projects depends on the dependency which deployed through the LATEST/RELEASE fail to recognize the version.

It will also causing problem if you are try to define the version as property, and reference it else where.

So the conclusion is use the versions-maven-plugin if you can.

Minimum and maximum date

As you can see, 01/01/1970 returns 0, which means it is the lowest possible date.

new Date('1970-01-01Z00:00:00:000') //returns Thu Jan 01 1970 01:00:00 GMT+0100 (Central European Standard Time)
new Date('1970-01-01Z00:00:00:000').getTime() //returns 0
new Date('1970-01-01Z00:00:00:001').getTime() //returns 1

Autocompletion in Vim

There is also https://github.com/Valloric/YouCompleteMe and it includes things like Jedi and also has fuzzy match. So far I found YCM to be the fastest among what I have tried.

Edit: There also exists some new ones like https://github.com/maralla/completor.vim

Is there a way to get a <button> element to link to a location without wrapping it in an <a href ... tag?

Well, for a link, there must be a link tag around. what you can also do is that make a css class for the button and assign that class to the link tag. like,

_x000D_
_x000D_
#btn {_x000D_
  background: url(https://image.flaticon.com/icons/png/128/149/149668.png) no-repeat 0 0;_x000D_
  display: block;_x000D_
  width: 128px;_x000D_
  height: 128px;_x000D_
  border: none;_x000D_
  outline: none;_x000D_
}
_x000D_
<a href="btnlink.html" id="btn"></a>
_x000D_
_x000D_

Convert this string to datetime

The Problem is with your code formatting,

inorder to use strtotime() You should replace '06/Oct/2011:19:00:02' with 06/10/2011 19:00:02 and date('d/M/Y:H:i:s', $date); with date('d/M/Y H:i:s', $date);. Note the spaces in between.

So the final code looks like this

$s = '06/10/2011 19:00:02';
$date = strtotime($s);
echo date('d/M/Y H:i:s', $date);

How to create a sleep/delay in nodejs that is Blocking?

Easiest true sync solution (i.e. no yield/async) I could come up with that works in all OS's without any dependencies is to call the node process to eval an in-line setTimeout expression:

const sleep = (ms) => require("child_process")
    .execSync(`"${process.argv[0]}" -e setTimeout(function(){},${ms})`);

Serialize an object to XML

To serialize an object, do:

 using (StreamWriter myWriter = new StreamWriter(path, false))
 {
     XmlSerializer mySerializer = new XmlSerializer(typeof(your_object_type));
     mySerializer.Serialize(myWriter, objectToSerialize);
 }

Also remember that for XmlSerializer to work, you need a parameterless constructor.

This is using dataframes from the pandas package. The "index" part can be either a single index, a list of indices, or a list of booleans. This can be read about in the documentation: https://pandas.pydata.org/pandas-docs/stable/indexing.html

So the index part specifies a subset of the rows to pull out, and the (optional) column_name specifies the column you want to work with from that subset of the dataframe. So if you want to update the 'class' column but only in rows where the class is currently set as 'versicolor', you might do something like what you list in the question:

iris_data.loc[iris_data['class'] == 'versicolor', 'class'] = 'Iris-versicolor'

getting the difference between date in days in java

Use JodaTime for this. It is much better than the standard Java DateTime Apis. Here is the code in JodaTime for calculating difference in days:

private static void dateDiff() {

    System.out.println("Calculate difference between two dates");
    System.out.println("=================================================================");

    DateTime startDate = new DateTime(2000, 1, 19, 0, 0, 0, 0);
    DateTime endDate = new DateTime();

    Days d = Days.daysBetween(startDate, endDate);
    int days = d.getDays();

    System.out.println("  Difference between " + endDate);
    System.out.println("  and " + startDate + " is " + days + " days.");

  }

Writing handler for UIAlertAction

How to set downloading file name in ASP.NET Web API

If you want to ensure that the file name is properly encoded but also avoid the WebApi HttpResponseMessage you can use the following:

Response.AddHeader("Content-Disposition", new System.Net.Mime.ContentDisposition("attachment") { FileName = "foo.txt" }.ToString());

You may use either ContentDisposition or ContentDispositionHeaderValue. Calling ToString on an instance of either will do the encoding of file names for you.

How to get public directory?

// Path to the 'app' folder
echo app_path();

// Path to the 'public' folder
echo public_path();

// Path to the 'storage' folder
echo storage_path();

// Path to the 'storage/app' folder
echo storage_path('app');

sdk.dir didn't work for me because I had ANDROID_HOME environment variable with wrong path. So, solution is just to update ANDROID_HOME or remove it to use local.properties.
Android Studio restart is required after the change.

Thread pooling in C++11

A pool of threads means that all your threads are running, all the time – in other words, the thread function never returns. To give the threads something meaningful to do, you have to design a system of inter-thread communication, both for the purpose of telling the thread that there's something to do, as well as for communicating the actual work data.

Typically this will involve some kind of concurrent data structure, and each thread would presumably sleep on some kind of condition variable, which would be notified when there's work to do. Upon receiving the notification, one or several of the threads wake up, recover a task from the concurrent data structure, process it, and store the result in an analogous fashion.

The thread would then go on to check whether there's even more work to do, and if not go back to sleep.

The upshot is that you have to design all this yourself, since there isn't a natural notion of "work" that's universally applicable. It's quite a bit of work, and there are some subtle issues you have to get right. (You can program in Go if you like a system which takes care of thread management for you behind the scenes.)

Copy a file in a sane, safe and efficient way

I'm not quite sure what a "good way" of copying a file is, but assuming "good" means "fast", I could broaden the subject a little.

Current operating systems have long been optimized to deal with run of the mill file copy. No clever bit of code will beat that. It is possible that some variant of your copy techniques will prove faster in some test scenario, but they most likely would fare worse in other cases.

Typically, the sendfile function probably returns before the write has been committed, thus giving the impression of being faster than the rest. I haven't read the code, but it is most certainly because it allocates its own dedicated buffer, trading memory for time. And the reason why it won't work for files bigger than 2Gb.

As long as you're dealing with a small number of files, everything occurs inside various buffers (the C++ runtime's first if you use iostream, the OS internal ones, apparently a file-sized extra buffer in the case of sendfile). Actual storage media is only accessed once enough data has been moved around to be worth the trouble of spinning a hard disk.

I suppose you could slightly improve performances in specific cases. Off the top of my head:

  • If you're copying a huge file on the same disk, using a buffer bigger than the OS's might improve things a bit (but we're probably talking about gigabytes here).
  • If you want to copy the same file on two different physical destinations you will probably be faster opening the three files at once than calling two copy_file sequentially (though you'll hardly notice the difference as long as the file fits in the OS cache)
  • If you're dealing with lots of tiny files on an HDD you might want to read them in batches to minimize seeking time (though the OS already caches directory entries to avoid seeking like crazy and tiny files will likely reduce disk bandwidth dramatically anyway).

But all that is outside the scope of a general purpose file copy function.

So in my arguably seasoned programmer's opinion, a C++ file copy should just use the C++17 file_copy dedicated function, unless more is known about the context where the file copy occurs and some clever strategies can be devised to outsmart the OS.

Usage of \b and \r in C

As for the meaning of each character described in C Primer Plus, what you expected is an 'correct' answer. It should be true for some computer architectures and compilers, but unfortunately not yours.

I wrote a simple c program to repeat your test, and got that 'correct' answer. I was using Mac OS and gcc. enter image description here

Also, I am very curious what is the compiler that you were using. :)

Meaning of Open hashing and Closed hashing

The use of "closed" vs. "open" reflects whether or not we are locked in to using a certain position or data structure (this is an extremely vague description, but hopefully the rest helps).

For instance, the "open" in "open addressing" tells us the index (aka. address) at which an object will be stored in the hash table is not completely determined by its hash code. Instead, the index may vary depending on what's already in the hash table.

The "closed" in "closed hashing" refers to the fact that we never leave the hash table; every object is stored directly at an index in the hash table's internal array. Note that this is only possible by using some sort of open addressing strategy. This explains why "closed hashing" and "open addressing" are synonyms.

Contrast this with open hashing - in this strategy, none of the objects are actually stored in the hash table's array; instead once an object is hashed, it is stored in a list which is separate from the hash table's internal array. "open" refers to the freedom we get by leaving the hash table, and using a separate list. By the way, "separate list" hints at why open hashing is also known as "separate chaining".

In short, "closed" always refers to some sort of strict guarantee, like when we guarantee that objects are always stored directly within the hash table (closed hashing). Then, the opposite of "closed" is "open", so if you don't have such guarantees, the strategy is considered "open".

Htaccess: add/remove trailing slash from URL

Right below the RewriteEngine On line, add:

RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^(.*)/$ /$1 [L,R] # <- for test, for prod use [L,R=301]

to enforce a no-trailing-slash policy.

To enforce a trailing-slash policy:

RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteRule ^(.*[^/])$ /$1/ [L,R] # <- for test, for prod use [L,R=301]

EDIT: commented the R=301 parts because, as explained in a comment:

Be careful with that R=301! Having it there makes many browsers cache the .htaccess-file indefinitely: It somehow becomes irreversible if you can't clear the browser-cache on all machines that opened it. When testing, better go with simple R or R=302

After you've completed your tests, you can use R=301.

How to close <img> tag properly?

Both the right answer. HTML5 follows strict rules and in HTML5 we can close all the tags. So, it depends on you to use HTML5 or HTML and follow an appropriate answer.

<img src='stackoverflow.png'>
<img src='stackoverflow.png' />

The second property is more appropriate.

How to paste yanked text into the Vim command line

For pasting something from the system clipboard into the Vim command line ("command mode"), use Ctrl+R followed by +. For me, at least on Ubuntu, Shift+Ins is not working.

PS: I am not sure why Ctrl+R followed by *, which is theoretically the same as Ctrl+R followed by + doesn't seem to work always. I searched and discovered the + version and it seems to work always, at least on my box.

Remove final character from string

Simple:

st =  "abcdefghij"
st = st[:-1]

There is also another way that shows how it is done with steps:

list1 = "abcdefghij"
list2 = list(list1)
print(list2)
list3 = list2[:-1]
print(list3)

This is also a way with user input:

list1 = input ("Enter :")
list2 = list(list1)
print(list2)
list3 = list2[:-1]
print(list3)

To make it take away the last word in a list:

list1 = input("Enter :")
list2 = list1.split()
print(list2)
list3 = list2[:-1]
print(list3)

ArrayList or List declaration in Java

It is easy to change the implementation to List to Set:

Collection<String> stringList = new ArrayList<String>();
//Client side
stringList = new LinkedList<String>();

stringList = new HashSet<String>();
//stringList = new HashSet<>(); java 1.7 and 1.8

Forcing anti-aliasing using css: Is this a myth?

Using an opacity setting of 99% (through the DXTransform filters) actually forces Internet Explorer to turn off ClearType, at least in Version 7. Source

Create or update mapping in elasticsearch

In later Elasticsearch versions (7.x), types were removed. Updating a mapping can becomes:

curl -XPUT "http://localhost:9200/test/_mapping" -H 'Content-Type: application/json' -d'{
  "properties": {
    "new_geo_field": {
      "type": "geo_point"
    }
  }
}'

As others have pointed out, if the field exists, you typically have to reindex. There are exceptions, such as adding a new sub-field or changing analysis settings.

You can't "create a mapping", as the mapping is created with the index. Typically, you'd define the mapping when creating the index (or via index templates):

curl -XPUT "http://localhost:9200/test" -H 'Content-Type: application/json' -d'{
  "mappings": {
    "properties": {
      "foo_field": {
        "type": "text"
      }
    }
  }
}'

That's because, in production at least, you'd want to avoid letting Elasticsearch "guess" new fields. Which is what generated this question: geo data was read as an array of long values.

Is try-catch like error handling possible in ASP Classic?

There are two approaches, you can code in JScript or VBScript which do have the construct or you can fudge it in your code.

Using JScript you'd use the following type of construct:

<script language="jscript" runat="server">
try  {
    tryStatements
}
catch(exception) {
    catchStatements
}
finally {
    finallyStatements
}
</script>

In your ASP code you fudge it by using on error resume next at the point you'd have a try and checking err.Number at the point of a catch like:

<%
' Turn off error Handling
On Error Resume Next

'Code here that you want to catch errors from

' Error Handler
If Err.Number <> 0 Then
   ' Error Occurred - Trap it
   On Error Goto 0 ' Turn error handling back on for errors in your handling block
   ' Code to cope with the error here
End If
On Error Goto 0 ' Reset error handling.

copy all files and folders from one drive to another drive using DOS (command prompt)

xcopy "C:\SomeFolderName" "D:\SomeFolderName" /h /i /c /k /e /r /y

Use the above command. It will definitely work.

In this command data will be copied from c:\ to D:\, even folders and system files as well. Here's what the flags do:

  • /h copies hidden and system files also
  • /i if destination does not exist and copying more than one file, assume that destination must be a directory
  • /c continue copying even if error occurs
  • /k copies attributes
  • /e copies directories and subdirectories, including empty ones
  • /r overwrites read-only files
  • /y suppress prompting to confirm whether you want to overwrite a file

Turn off constraints temporarily (MS SQL)

You can actually disable all database constraints in a single SQL command and the re-enable them calling another single command. See:

I am currently working with SQL Server 2005 but I am almost sure that this approach worked with SQL 2000 as well

Setting WPF image source in code

Put the frame in a VisualBrush:

VisualBrush brush = new VisualBrush { TileMode = TileMode.None };

brush.Visual = frame;

brush.AlignmentX = AlignmentX.Center;
brush.AlignmentY = AlignmentY.Center;
brush.Stretch = Stretch.Uniform;

Put the VisualBrush in GeometryDrawing

GeometryDrawing drawing = new GeometryDrawing();

drawing.Brush = brush;

// Brush this in 1, 1 ratio
RectangleGeometry rect = new RectangleGeometry { Rect = new Rect(0, 0, 1, 1) };
drawing.Geometry = rect;

Now put the GeometryDrawing in a DrawingImage:

new DrawingImage(drawing);

Place this on your source of the image, and voilà!

You could do it a lot easier though:

<Image>
    <Image.Source>
        <BitmapImage UriSource="/yourassembly;component/YourImage.PNG"></BitmapImage>
    </Image.Source>
</Image>

And in code:

BitmapImage image = new BitmapImage { UriSource="/yourassembly;component/YourImage.PNG" };

Send array with Ajax to PHP script

Encode your data string into JSON.

dataString = ??? ; // array?
var jsonString = JSON.stringify(dataString);
   $.ajax({
        type: "POST",
        url: "script.php",
        data: {data : jsonString},
        cache: false,

        success: function(){
            alert("OK");
        }
    });

In your PHP

$data = json_decode(stripslashes($_POST['data']));

  // here i would like use foreach:

  foreach($data as $d){
     echo $d;
  }

Note

When you send data via POST, it needs to be as a keyvalue pair.

Thus

data: dataString

is wrong. Instead do:

data: {data:dataString}

Zipping a file in bash fails

Run dos2unix or similar utility on it to remove the carriage returns (^M).

This message indicates that your file has dos-style lineendings:

-bash: /backup/backup.sh: /bin/bash^M: bad interpreter: No such file or directory

Utilities like dos2unix will fix it:

 dos2unix <backup.bash >improved-backup.sh

Or, if no such utility is installed, you can accomplish the same thing with translate:

tr -d "\015\032" <backup.bash >improved-backup.sh

As for how those characters got there in the first place, @MadPhysicist had some good comments.

How do I fix "Expected to return a value at the end of arrow function" warning?

The most upvoted answer, from Kris Selbekk, it is totally right. It is important to highlight though that it takes a functional approach, you will be looping through the this.props.comments array twice, the second time(looping) it will most probable skip a few elements that where filtered, but in case no comment was filtered you will loop through the whole array twice. If performance is not a concern in you project that is totally fine. In case performance is important a guard clause would be more appropriated as you would loop the array only once:

return this.props.comments.map((comment) => {
  if (!comment.hasComments) return null;

  return (
    <div key={comment.id}>
      <CommentItem className="MainComment"/>
        {this.props.comments.map(commentReply => {
          if (commentReply.replyTo !== comment.id) return null;

          return <CommentItem className="SubComment"/>
        })}
    </div>
  )
}

The main reason I'm pointing this out is because as a Junior Developer I did a lot of those mistakes(like looping the same array multiple times), so I thought i was worth mention it here.

PS: I would refactor your react component even more, as I'm not in favour of heavy logic in the html part of a JSX, but that is out of the topic of this question.

How to keep a VMWare VM's clock in sync?

I'll answer for Windows guests. If you have VMware Tools installed, then the taskbar's notification area (near the clock) has an icon for VMware Tools. Double-click that and set your options.

If you don't have VMware Tools installed, you can still set the clock's option for internet time to sync with some NTP server. If your physical machine serves the NTP protocol to your guest machines then you can get that done with host-only networking. Otherwise you'll have to let your guests sync with a genuine NTP server out on the internet, for example time.windows.com.

Random number generator only generating one random number

For ease of re-use throughout your application a static class may help.

public static class StaticRandom
{
    private static int seed;

    private static ThreadLocal<Random> threadLocal = new ThreadLocal<Random>
        (() => new Random(Interlocked.Increment(ref seed)));

    static StaticRandom()
    {
        seed = Environment.TickCount;
    }

    public static Random Instance { get { return threadLocal.Value; } }
}

You can use then use static random instance with code such as

StaticRandom.Instance.Next(1, 100);

How to set a JVM TimeZone Properly

How to find out when a particular table was created in Oracle?

SELECT created
  FROM dba_objects
 WHERE object_name = <<your table name>>
   AND owner = <<owner of the table>>
   AND object_type = 'TABLE'

will tell you when a table was created (if you don't have access to DBA_OBJECTS, you could use ALL_OBJECTS instead assuming you have SELECT privileges on the table).

The general answer to getting timestamps from a row, though, is that you can only get that data if you have added columns to track that information (assuming, of course, that your application populates the columns as well). There are various special cases, however. If the DML happened relatively recently (most likely in the last couple hours), you should be able to get the timestamps from a flashback query. If the DML happened in the last few days (or however long you keep your archived logs), you could use LogMiner to extract the timestamps but that is going to be a very expensive operation particularly if you're getting timestamps for many rows. If you build the table with ROWDEPENDENCIES enabled (not the default), you can use

SELECT scn_to_timestamp( ora_rowscn ) last_modified_date,
       ora_rowscn last_modified_scn,
       <<other columns>>
  FROM <<your table>>

to get the last modification date and SCN (system change number) for the row. By default, though, without ROWDEPENDENCIES, the SCN is only at the block level. The SCN_TO_TIMESTAMP function also isn't going to be able to map SCN's to timestamps forever.

Calculating distance between two points (Latitude, Longitude)

Since you're using SQL Server 2008, you have the geography data type available, which is designed for exactly this kind of data:

DECLARE @source geography = 'POINT(0 51.5)'
DECLARE @target geography = 'POINT(-3 56)'

SELECT @source.STDistance(@target)

Gives

----------------------
538404.100197555

(1 row(s) affected)

Telling us it is about 538 km from (near) London to (near) Edinburgh.

Naturally there will be an amount of learning to do first, but once you know it it's far far easier than implementing your own Haversine calculation; plus you get a LOT of functionality.

If you want to retain your existing data structure, you can still use STDistance, by constructing suitable geography instances using the Point method:

DECLARE @orig_lat DECIMAL(12, 9)
DECLARE @orig_lng DECIMAL(12, 9)
SET @orig_lat=53.381538 set @orig_lng=-1.463526

DECLARE @orig geography = geography::Point(@orig_lat, @orig_lng, 4326);

SELECT *,

Android Spinner : Avoid onItemSelected calls during initialization

The user interaction flag can then be set to true in the onTouch method and reset in onItemSelected() once the selection change has been handled. I prefer this solution because the user interaction flag is handled exclusively for the spinner, and not for other views in the activity that may affect the desired behavior.

In code:

Create your listener for the spinner:

public class SpinnerInteractionListener implements AdapterView.OnItemSelectedListener, View.OnTouchListener {

    boolean userSelect = false;

    @Override
    public boolean onTouch(View v, MotionEvent event) {
        userSelect = true;
        return false;
    }

    @Override
    public void onItemSelected(AdapterView<?> parent, View view, int pos, long id) {
        if (userSelect) {
            userSelect = false;
            // Your selection handling code here
        }
    }

}

Add the listener to the spinner as both an OnItemSelectedListener and an OnTouchListener:

SpinnerInteractionListener listener = new SpinnerInteractionListener();
mSpinnerView.setOnTouchListener(listener);
mSpinnerView.setOnItemSelectedListener(listener);

CURRENT_TIMESTAMP in milliseconds

I faced the same issue recently and I created a small github project that contains a new mysql function UNIX_TIMESTAMP_MS() that returns the current timestamp in milliseconds.

Also you can do the following :

SELECT UNIX_TIMESTAMP_MS(NOW(3)) or SELECT UNIX_TIMESTAMP_MS(DateTimeField)

The project is located here : https://github.com/silviucpp/unix_timestamp_ms

To compile you need to Just run make compile in the project root.

Then you need to only copy the shared library in the /usr/lib/mysql/plugin/ (or whatever the plugin folder is on your machine.)

After this just open a mysql console and run :

CREATE FUNCTION UNIX_TIMESTAMP_MS RETURNS INT SONAME 'unix_timestamp_ms.so';

I hope this will help, Silviu

HTML5 record audio to file

You can use Recordmp3js from GitHub to achieve your requirements. You can record from user's microphone and then get the file as an mp3. Finally upload it to your server.

I used this in my demo. There is a already a sample available with the source code by the author in this location : https://github.com/Audior/Recordmp3js

The demo is here: http://audior.ec/recordmp3js/

But currently works only on Chrome and Firefox.

Seems to work fine and pretty simple. Hope this helps.

Using Composer's Autoload

Every package should be responsible for autoloading itself, what are you trying to achieve with autoloading classes that are out of the package you define?

One workaround if it's for your application itself is to add a namespace to the loader instance, something like this:

<?php

$loader = require 'vendor/autoload.php';
$loader->add('AppName', __DIR__.'/../src/');

How do I push a new local branch to a remote Git repository and track it too?

I simply do

git push -u origin localBranch:remoteBranchToBeCreated

over an already cloned project.

Git creates a new branch named remoteBranchToBeCreated under my commits I did in localBranch.

Edit: this changes your current local branch's (possibly named localBranch) upstream to origin/remoteBranchToBeCreated. To fix that, simply type:

git branch --set-upstream-to=origin/localBranch

or

git branch -u origin/localBranch

So your current local branch now tracks origin/localBranch back.

How to retrieve unique count of a field using Kibana + Elastic Search

Using Aggs u can easily do that. Writing down query for now.

GET index/_search
{
  "size":0,
  "aggs": {
    "source": {
      "terms": {
        "field": "field",
        "size": 100000
      }
    }
  }
 }

This would return the different values of field with there doc counts.

Best way to work with dates in Android SQLite

Usually (same as I do in mysql/postgres) I stores dates in int(mysql/post) or text(sqlite) to store them in the timestamp format.

Then I will convert them into Date objects and perform actions based on user TimeZone

What are the complexity guarantees of the standard containers?

I'm not aware of anything like a single table that lets you compare all of them in at one glance (I'm not sure such a table would even be feasible).

Of course the ISO standard document enumerates the complexity requirements in detail, sometimes in various rather readable tables, other times in less readable bullet points for each specific method.

Also the STL library reference at http://www.cplusplus.com/reference/stl/ provides the complexity requirements where appropriate.

Message: Trying to access array offset on value of type null

This happens because $cOTLdata is not null but the index 'char_data' does not exist. Previous versions of PHP may have been less strict on such mistakes and silently swallowed the error / notice while 7.4 does not do this anymore.

To check whether the index exists or not you can use isset():

isset($cOTLdata['char_data'])

Which means the line should look something like this:

$len = isset($cOTLdata['char_data']) ? count($cOTLdata['char_data']) : 0;

Note I switched the then and else cases of the ternary operator since === null is essentially what isset already does (but in the positive case).

Measure execution time for a Java method

As proposed nanoTime () is very precise on short time scales. When this precision is required you need to take care about what you really measure. Especially not to measure the nanotime call itself

long start1 = System.nanoTime();
// maybe add here a call to a return to remove call up time, too.
// Avoid optimization
long start2 = System.nanoTime();
myCall();
long stop = System.nanoTime();
long diff = stop - 2*start2 + start1;

System.out.println(diff + " ns");

By the way, you will measure different values for the same call due to

  • other load on your computer (background, network, mouse movement, interrupts, task switching, threads)
  • cache fillings (cold, warm)
  • jit compiling (no optimization, performance hit due to running the compiler, performance boost due to compiler (but sometimes code with jit is slower than without!))

Apache Proxy: No protocol handler was valid

How do I execute a file in Cygwin?

you should just be able to call it by typing in the file name. You may have to call ./a.exe as the current directory is usually not on the path for security reasons.

Compare and contrast REST and SOAP web services?

SOAP uses WSDL for communication btw consumer and provider, whereas REST just uses XML or JSON to send and receive data

WSDL defines contract between client and service and is static by its nature. In case of REST contract is somewhat complicated and is defined by HTTP, URI, Media Formats and Application Specific Coordination Protocol. It's highly dynamic unlike WSDL.

SOAP doesn't return human readable result, whilst REST result is readable with is just plain XML or JSON

This is not true. Plain XML or JSON are not RESTful at all. None of them define any controls(i.e. links and link relations, method information, encoding information etc...) which is against REST as far as messages must be self contained and coordinate interaction between agent/client and service.

With links + semantic link relations clients should be able to determine what is next interaction step and follow these links and continue communication with service.

It is not necessary that messages be human readable, it's possible to use cryptic format and build perfectly valid REST applications. It doesn't matter whether message is human readable or not.

Thus, plain XML(application/xml) or JSON(application/json) are not sufficient formats for building REST applications. It's always reasonable to use subset of these generic media types which have strong semantic meaning and offer enough control information(links etc...) to coordinate interactions between client and server.

REST is over only HTTP

Not true, HTTP is most widely used and when we talk about REST web services we just assume HTTP. HTTP defines interface with it's methods(GET, POST, PUT, DELETE, PATCH etc) and various headers which can be used uniformly for interacting with resources. This uniformity can be achieved with other protocols as well.

P.S. Very simple, yet very interesting explanation of REST: http://www.looah.com/source/view/2284

Add multiple items to already initialized arraylist in java

If you needed to add a lot of integers it'd proabbly be easiest to use a for loop. For example, adding 28 days to a daysInFebruary array.

ArrayList<Integer> daysInFebruary = new ArrayList<>();

for(int i = 1; i <= 28; i++) {
    daysInFebruary.add(i);
}

Program to find largest and second largest number in array

If you need to find the largest and second largest element in an existing array, see the answers above (Schwern's answer contains the approach I would've used).

However; needing to find the largest and second largest element in an existing array typically indicates a design flaw. Entire arrays don't magically appear - they come from somewhere, which means that the most efficient approach is to keep track of "current largest and current second largest" while the array is being created.

For example; for your original code the data is coming from the user; and by keeping track of "largest and second largest value that the user entered" inside of the loop that gets values from the user the overhead of tracking the information will be hidden by the time spent waiting for the user to press key/s, you no longer need to do a search afterwards while the user is waiting for results, and you no longer need an array at all.

It'd be like this:

int main() {
    int largest1 = 0, largest2 = 0, i, temp;

    printf("enter number of elements you want in array");
    scanf("%d", &n);
    printf("enter elements");
    for (i = 0; i < n; i++) {
        scanf("%d", &temp);
        if(temp >= largest1) {
            largest2 = largest1;
            largest1 = temp;
        } else if(temp > largest2) {
            largest2 = temp;
        }
    }
    printf("First and second largest number is %d and %d ", largest1, largest2);
}

Ternary operator ?: vs if...else

They are the same, however, the ternary operator can be used in places where it is difficult to use a if/else:

printf("Total: %d item%s", cnt, cnt != 1 ? "s" : "");

Doing that statement with an if/else, would generate a very different compiled code.

Update after 8 years...

Actually, I think this would be better:

printf(cnt == 1 ? "Total: %d item" : "Total: %d items", cnt);

(actually, I'm pretty sure you can replace the "%d" in the first string with "one")

How to check java bit version on Linux?

Disable/turn off inherited CSS3 transitions

Another way to remove all transitions is with the unset keyword:

a.tags {
    transition: unset;
}

In the case of transition, unset is equivalent to initial, since transition is not an inherited property:

a.tags {
    transition: initial;
}

A reader who knows about unset and initial can tell that these solutions are correct immediately, without having to think about the specific syntax of transition.

Disable copy constructor

Make SymbolIndexer( const SymbolIndexer& ) private. If you're assigning to a reference, you're not copying.

Adding new column to existing DataFrame in Python pandas

Use the original df1 indexes to create the series:

df1['e'] = pd.Series(np.random.randn(sLength), index=df1.index)

Edit 2015
Some reported getting the SettingWithCopyWarning with this code.
However, the code still runs perfectly with the current pandas version 0.16.1.

>>> sLength = len(df1['a'])
>>> df1
          a         b         c         d
6 -0.269221 -0.026476  0.997517  1.294385
8  0.917438  0.847941  0.034235 -0.448948

>>> df1['e'] = pd.Series(np.random.randn(sLength), index=df1.index)
>>> df1
          a         b         c         d         e
6 -0.269221 -0.026476  0.997517  1.294385  1.757167
8  0.917438  0.847941  0.034235 -0.448948  2.228131

>>> p.version.short_version
'0.16.1'

The SettingWithCopyWarning aims to inform of a possibly invalid assignment on a copy of the Dataframe. It doesn't necessarily say you did it wrong (it can trigger false positives) but from 0.13.0 it let you know there are more adequate methods for the same purpose. Then, if you get the warning, just follow its advise: Try using .loc[row_index,col_indexer] = value instead

>>> df1.loc[:,'f'] = pd.Series(np.random.randn(sLength), index=df1.index)
>>> df1
          a         b         c         d         e         f
6 -0.269221 -0.026476  0.997517  1.294385  1.757167 -0.050927
8  0.917438  0.847941  0.034235 -0.448948  2.228131  0.006109
>>>

In fact, this is currently the more efficient method as described in pandas docs

Edit 2017

As indicated in the comments and by @Alexander, currently the best method to add the values of a Series as a new column of a DataFrame could be using assign:

df1 = df1.assign(e=pd.Series(np.random.randn(sLength)).values)

How can I see the request headers made by curl when sending a request to the server?

I know this is a little late, but my favoured method for doing this is netcat, as you get exactly what curl sent; this can differ from the --trace or --trace-ascii options which won't show non-ASCII characters properly (they just show as dots or need to be decoded).

You can do this as very easily by opening two terminal windows, in the first type:

nc -l localhost 12345

This opens a listening process on port 12345 of your local machine.

In the second terminal window enter your curl command, for example:

curl --form 'foo=bar' localhost:12345

In the first terminal window you will see exactly what curl sent in the request.

Now of course nc won't send anything in response (unless you type it in yourself), so you will need to interrupt the curl command (control-c) and repeat the process for each test.

However, this is a useful option for simply debugging your request, as you're not involving a round-trip anywhere, or producing bogus, iterative requests somewhere until you get it right; once you're happy with the command, simply redirect it to a valid URL and you're good to go.

You can do the same for any cURL library as well, simply edit your request to point to the local nc listener until you're happy with it.

How can I parse a YAML file from a Linux shell script?

Another option is to convert the YAML to JSON, then use jq to interact with the JSON representation either to extract information from it or edit it.

I wrote a simple bash script that contains this glue - see Y2J project on GitHub

Can a JSON value contain a multiline string

Not pretty good solution, but you can try the hjson tool. It allows you to write text multi-lined in editor and then converts it to the proper valid JSON format.

Note: it adds '\n' characters for the new lines, but you can simply delete them in any text editor with the "Replace all.." function.

Extracting time from POSIXct

The time_t value for midnight GMT is always divisible by 86400 (24 * 3600). The value for seconds-since-midnight GMT is thus time %% 86400.

The hour in GMT is (time %% 86400) / 3600 and this can be used as the x-axis of the plot:

plot((as.numeric(times) %% 86400)/3600, val)

enter image description here

To adjust for a time zone, adjust the time before taking the modulus, by adding the number of seconds that your time zone is ahead of GMT. For example, US central daylight saving time (CDT) is 5 hours behind GMT. To plot against the time in CDT, the following expression is used:

plot(((as.numeric(times) - 5*3600) %% 86400)/3600, val)

Insert and set value with max()+1 problems

SELECT MAX(col) +1 is not safe -- it does not ensure that you aren't inserting more than one customer with the same customer_id value, regardless if selecting from the same table or any others. The proper way to ensure a unique integer value is assigned on insertion into your table in MySQL is to use AUTO_INCREMENT. The ANSI standard is to use sequences, but MySQL doesn't support them. An AUTO_INCREMENT column can only be defined in the CREATE TABLE statement:

CREATE TABLE `customers` (
  `customer_id` int(11) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT,
  `firstname` varchar(45) DEFAULT NULL,
  `surname` varchar(45) DEFAULT NULL,
  PRIMARY KEY (`customer_id`)
)

That said, this worked fine for me on 5.1.49:

CREATE TABLE `customers` (
  `customer_id` int(11) NOT NULL DEFAULT '0',
  `firstname` varchar(45) DEFAULT NULL,
  `surname` varchar(45) DEFAULT NULL,
  PRIMARY KEY (`customer_id`)
) ENGINE=InnoDB DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1$$

INSERT INTO customers VALUES (1, 'a', 'b');

INSERT INTO customers
SELECT MAX(customer_id) + 1, 'jim', 'sock'
  FROM CUSTOMERS;

removing new line character from incoming stream using sed

To remove newlines, use tr:

tr -d '\n'

If you want to replace each newline with a single space:

tr '\n' ' '

The error ba: Event not found is coming from csh, and is due to csh trying to match !ba in your history list. You can escape the ! and write the command:

sed ':a;N;$\!ba;s/\n/ /g' # Suitable for csh only!!

but sed is the wrong tool for this, and you would be better off using a shell that handles quoted strings more reasonably. That is, stop using csh and start using bash.

How to format current time using a yyyyMMddHHmmss format?

Time package in Golang has some methods that might be worth looking.

func (Time) Format

func (t Time) Format(layout string) string Format returns a textual representation of the time value formatted according to layout, which defines the format by showing how the reference time,

Mon Jan 2 15:04:05 -0700 MST 2006 would be displayed if it were the value; it serves as an example of the desired output. The same display rules will then be applied to the time value. Predefined layouts ANSIC, UnixDate, RFC3339 and others describe standard and convenient representations of the reference time. For more information about the formats and the definition of the reference time, see the documentation for ANSIC and the other constants defined by this package.

Source (http://golang.org/pkg/time/#Time.Format)

I also found an example of defining the layout (http://golang.org/src/pkg/time/example_test.go)

func ExampleTime_Format() {
        // layout shows by example how the reference time should be represented.
        const layout = "Jan 2, 2006 at 3:04pm (MST)"
        t := time.Date(2009, time.November, 10, 15, 0, 0, 0, time.Local)
        fmt.Println(t.Format(layout))
        fmt.Println(t.UTC().Format(layout))
        // Output:
    // Nov 10, 2009 at 3:00pm (PST)
        // Nov 10, 2009 at 11:00pm (UTC)
    }

How to refresh page on back button click?

Ahem u_u

As i've stated the back button is for every one of us a pain in some place... that said...

As long as you load the page normally it makes a lot of trouble... for a standard "site" it will not change that much... however i think you can make something like this

The user access everytime to your page .php that choose what to load. You can try to work a little with cache (to not cache page) and maybe expire date.

But the long term solution will be put a code on "onload" event to fetch the data trought Ajax, this way you can (with Javascript) run the code you want, and example refresh the page.

Bash mkdir and subfolders

FWIW,

Poor mans security folder (to protect a public shared folder from little prying eyes ;) )

mkdir -p {0..9}/{0..9}/{0..9}/{0..9}

Now you can put your files in a pin numbered folder. Not exactly waterproof, but it's a barrier for the youngest.

How do I check that multiple keys are in a dict in a single pass?

In the case of determining whether only some keys match, this works:

any_keys_i_seek = ["key1", "key2", "key3"]

if set(my_dict).intersection(any_keys_i_seek):
    # code_here
    pass

Yet another option to find if only some keys match:

any_keys_i_seek = ["key1", "key2", "key3"]

if any_keys_i_seek & my_dict.keys():
    # code_here
    pass

window.open with headers

If you are in control of server side, it might be possible to set header value in query string and send it like that? That way you could parse it from query string if it's not found in the headers.

Just an idea... And you asked for a cunning hack :)

How do I retrieve an HTML element's actual width and height?

Use width param as follows:

   style={{
      width: "80%",
      paddingLeft: 100,
      paddingRight: 200,
      paddingTop: 30,
      paddingBottom: 30,
      border: "3px solid lightGray",
    }}

Xcopy Command excluding files and folders

Like Andrew said /exclude parameter of xcopy should be existing file that has list of excludes.

Documentation of xcopy says:

Using /exclude

List each string in a separate line in each file. If any of the listed strings match any part of the absolute path of the file to be copied, that file is then excluded from the copying process. For example, if you specify the string "\Obj\", you exclude all files underneath the Obj directory. If you specify the string ".obj", you exclude all files with the .obj extension.

Example:

xcopy c:\t1 c:\t2 /EXCLUDE:list-of-excluded-files.txt

and list-of-excluded-files.txt should exist in current folder (otherwise pass full path), with listing of files/folders to exclude - one file/folder per line. In your case that would be:

exclusion.txt

HttpURLConnection timeout settings

If the HTTP Connection doesn't timeout, You can implement the timeout checker in the background thread itself (AsyncTask, Service, etc), the following class is an example for Customize AsyncTask which timeout after certain period

public abstract class AsyncTaskWithTimer<Params, Progress, Result> extends
    AsyncTask<Params, Progress, Result> {

private static final int HTTP_REQUEST_TIMEOUT = 30000;

@Override
protected Result doInBackground(Params... params) {
    createTimeoutListener();
    return doInBackgroundImpl(params);
}

private void createTimeoutListener() {
    Thread timeout = new Thread() {
        public void run() {
            Looper.prepare();

            final Handler handler = new Handler();
            handler.postDelayed(new Runnable() {
                @Override
                public void run() {

                    if (AsyncTaskWithTimer.this != null
                            && AsyncTaskWithTimer.this.getStatus() != Status.FINISHED)
                        AsyncTaskWithTimer.this.cancel(true);
                    handler.removeCallbacks(this);
                    Looper.myLooper().quit();
                }
            }, HTTP_REQUEST_TIMEOUT);

            Looper.loop();
        }
    };
    timeout.start();
}

abstract protected Result doInBackgroundImpl(Params... params);
}

A Sample for this

public class AsyncTaskWithTimerSample extends AsyncTaskWithTimer<Void, Void, Void> {

    @Override
    protected void onCancelled(Void void) {
        Log.d(TAG, "Async Task onCancelled With Result");
        super.onCancelled(result);
    }

    @Override
    protected void onCancelled() {
        Log.d(TAG, "Async Task onCancelled");
        super.onCancelled();
    }

    @Override
    protected Void doInBackgroundImpl(Void... params) {
        // Do background work
        return null;
    };
 }

Javascript: set label text

you are doing several things wrong. The explanation follows the corrected code:

<label id="LblTextCount"></label>
<textarea name="text" onKeyPress="checkLength(this, 512, 'LblTextCount')">
</textarea>

Note the quotes around the id.

function checkLength(object, maxlength, label) {
    charsleft = (maxlength - object.value.length);

    // never allow to exceed the specified limit
    if( charsleft < 0 ) {
        object.value = object.value.substring(0, maxlength-1);
    }

    // set the value of charsleft into the label
    document.getElementById(label).innerHTML = charsleft;
}

First, on your key press event you need to send the label id as a string for it to read correctly. Second, InnerHTML has a lowercase i. Lastly, because you sent the function the string id you can get the element by that id.

Let me know how that works out for you

EDIT Not that by not declaring charsleft as a var, you are implicitly creating a global variable. a better way would be to do the following when declaring it in the function:

var charsleft = ....

AngularJS - How to use $routeParams in generating the templateUrl?

Router:-

...
.when('/enquiry/:page', {
    template: '<div ng-include src="templateUrl" onload="onLoad()"></div>',
    controller: 'enquiryCtrl'
})
...

Controller:-

...
// template onload event
$scope.onLoad = function() {
    console.log('onLoad()');
    f_tcalInit(); // or other onload stuff
}

// initialize
$scope.templateUrl = 'ci_index.php/adminctrl/enquiry/'+$routeParams.page;
...

I believe it is a weakness in angularjs that $routeParams is NOT visible inside the router. A tiny enhancement would make a world of difference during implementation.

Error LNK2019: Unresolved External Symbol in Visual Studio

I was getting this error after adding the include files and linking the library. It was because the lib was built with non-unicode and my application was unicode. Matching them fixed it.

How can I make a DateTimePicker display an empty string?

When I want to display an empty date value I do this

            if (sStrDate != "")
            {
                dateCreated.Value = DateTime.Parse(sStrDate);
            }
            else
            {
                dateCreated.CustomFormat = " ";
                dateCreated.Format = DateTimePickerFormat.Custom;
            }

Then when the user clicks on the control I have this:

            private void dateControl_MouseDown(object sender, MouseEventArgs e)
            {
                ((DateTimePicker)sender).Format = DateTimePickerFormat.Long;
            }

This allows you to display and use an empty date value, but still allow the user to be able to change the date to something when they wish.

Keep in mind that sStrDate has already been validated as a valid date string.

How can I add a volume to an existing Docker container?

You can commit your existing container (that is create a new image from container’s changes) and then run it with your new mounts.

Example:

$ docker ps  -a

$ docker commit 5a8f89adeead newimagename

$ docker run -ti -v "$PWD/somedir":/somedir newimagename /bin/bash

If it's all OK, stop your old container, and use this new one.

That´s it :)

Can a foreign key refer to a primary key in the same table?

A good example of using ids of other rows in the same table as foreign keys is nested lists.

Deleting a row that has children (i.e., rows, which refer to parent's id), which also have children (i.e., referencing ids of children) will delete a cascade of rows.

This will save a lot of pain (and a lot of code of what to do with orphans - i.e., rows, that refer to non-existing ids).

How does inline Javascript (in HTML) work?

using javascript:

here input element is used

<input type="text" id="fname" onkeyup="javascript:console.log(window.event.key)">

if you want to use multiline code use curly braces after javascript:

<input type="text" id="fname" onkeyup="javascript:{ console.log(window.event.key); alert('hello'); }">

Python os.path.join() on a list

It's just the method. You're not missing anything. The official documentation shows that you can use list unpacking to supply several paths:

s = "c:/,home,foo,bar,some.txt".split(",")
os.path.join(*s)

Note the *s intead of just s in os.path.join(*s). Using the asterisk will trigger the unpacking of the list, which means that each list argument will be supplied to the function as a separate argument.

log4j configuration via JVM argument(s)?

If you are using gradle. You can apply 'aplication' plugin and use the following command

How to pass parameter to function using in addEventListener?

No need to pass anything in. The function used for addEventListener will automatically have this bound to the current element. Simply use this in your function:

productLineSelect.addEventListener('change', getSelection, false);

function getSelection() {
    var value = this.options[this.selectedIndex].value;
    alert(value);
}

Here's the fiddle: http://jsfiddle.net/dJ4Wm/

If you want to pass arbitrary data to the function, wrap it in your own anonymous function call:

productLineSelect.addEventListener('change', function() {
    foo('bar');
}, false);

function foo(message) {
    alert(message);
}

Here's the fiddle: http://jsfiddle.net/t4Gun/

If you want to set the value of this manually, you can use the call method to call the function:

var self = this;
productLineSelect.addEventListener('change', function() {
    getSelection.call(self);
    // This'll set the `this` value inside of `getSelection` to `self`
}, false);

function getSelection() {
    var value = this.options[this.selectedIndex].value;
    alert(value);
}

Set disable attribute based on a condition for Html.TextBoxFor

I like the extension method approach so you don't have to pass through all possible parameters.
However using Regular expressions can be quite tricky (and somewhat slower) so I used XDocument instead:

public static MvcHtmlString SetDisabled(this MvcHtmlString html, bool isDisabled)
{
    var xDocument = XDocument.Parse(html.ToHtmlString());
    if (!(xDocument.FirstNode is XElement element))
    {
        return html;
    }

    element.SetAttributeValue("disabled", isDisabled ? "disabled" : null);
    return MvcHtmlString.Create(element.ToString());
}

Use the extension method like this:
@Html.EditorFor(m => m.MyProperty).SetDisabled(Model.ExpireDate == null)

CSS Div width percentage and padding without breaking layout

Try removing the position from header and add overflow to container:

#container {
    position:relative;
    width:80%;
    height:auto;
    overflow:auto;
}
#header {
    width:80%;
    height:50px;
    padding:10px;
}

convert a JavaScript string variable to decimal/money

An easy short hand way would be to use +x It keeps the sign intact as well as the decimal numbers. The other alternative is to use parseFloat(x). Difference between parseFloat(x) and +x is for a blank string +x returns 0 where as parseFloat(x) returns NaN.

SqlDataAdapter vs SqlDataReader

The Fill function uses a DataReader internally. If your consideration is "Which one is more efficient?", then using a DataReader in a tight loop that populates a collection record-by-record, is likely to be the same load on the system as using DataAdapter.Fill.

(System.Data.dll, System.Data.Common.DbDataAdapter, FillInternal.)

extract the date part from DateTime in C#

DateTime is a DataType which is used to store both Date and Time. But it provides Properties to get the Date Part.

You can get the Date part from Date Property.

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.datetime.date.aspx

DateTime date1 = new DateTime(2008, 6, 1, 7, 47, 0);
Console.WriteLine(date1.ToString());

// Get date-only portion of date, without its time.
DateTime dateOnly = date1.Date;
// Display date using short date string.
Console.WriteLine(dateOnly.ToString("d"));
// Display date using 24-hour clock.
Console.WriteLine(dateOnly.ToString("g"));
Console.WriteLine(dateOnly.ToString("MM/dd/yyyy HH:mm"));
// The example displays the following output to the console:
//       6/1/2008 7:47:00 AM
//       6/1/2008
//       6/1/2008 12:00 AM
//       06/01/2008 00:00

Bash Templating: How to build configuration files from templates with Bash?

I agree with using sed: it is the best tool for search/replace. Here is my approach:

$ cat template.txt
the number is ${i}
the dog's name is ${name}

$ cat replace.sed
s/${i}/5/
s/${name}/Fido/

$ sed -f replace.sed template.txt > out.txt

$ cat out.txt
the number is 5
the dog's name is Fido

LINUX: Link all files from one to another directory

The posted solutions will not link any hidden files. To include them, try this:

cd /usr/lib
find /mnt/usr/lib -maxdepth 1 -print "%P\n" | while read file; do ln -s "/mnt/usr/lib/$file" "$file"; done

If you should happen to want to recursively create the directories and only link files (so that if you create a file within a directory, it really is in /usr/lib not /mnt/usr/lib), you could do this:

cd /usr/lib
find /mnt/usr/lib -mindepth 1 -depth -type d -printf "%P\n" | while read dir; do mkdir -p "$dir"; done
find /mnt/usr/lib -type f -printf "%P\n" | while read file; do ln -s "/mnt/usr/lib/$file" "$file"; done

Python: import cx_Oracle ImportError: No module named cx_Oracle error is thown

I have just faced the same problem. First, you need to install the appropriate Oracle client for your OS. In my case, to install it on Ubuntu x64 I have followed this instructions https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Oracle%20Instant%20Client#Install_RPMs

Then, you need to install cx_Oracle, a Python module to connect to the Oracle client. Again, assuming you are running Ubuntu in a 64bit machine, you should type in a shell:

wget -c http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/cx-oracle/cx_Oracle-5.0.4-11g-unicode-py27-1.x86_64.rpm
sudo alien -i cx_Oracle-5.0.4-11g-unicode-py27-1.x86_64.rpm

This will work for Oracle 11g if you have installed Python 2.7.x, but you can download a different cx_Oracle version in http://cx-oracle.sourceforge.net/ To check which Python version do you have, type in a terminal:

python -V

I hope it helps

Rotate label text in seaborn factorplot

Aman is correct that you can use normal matplotlib commands, but this is also built into the FacetGrid:

import seaborn as sns
planets = sns.load_dataset("planets")
g = sns.factorplot("year", data=planets, aspect=1.5, kind="count", color="b")
g.set_xticklabels(rotation=30)

enter image description here

There are some comments and another answer claiming this "doesn't work", however, anyone can run the code as written here and see that it does work. The other answer does not provide a reproducible example of what isn't working, making it very difficult to address, but my guess is that people are trying to apply this solution to the output of functions that return an Axes object instead of a Facet Grid. These are different things, and the Axes.set_xticklabels() method does indeed require a list of labels and cannot simply change the properties of the existing labels on the Axes. The lesson is that it's important to pay attention to what kind of objects you are working with.

Trim string in JavaScript?

You can do it using the plain JavaScript:

function trimString(str, maxLen) {
if (str.length <= maxLen) {
return str;
}
var trimmed = str.substr(0, maxLen);
return trimmed.substr(0, trimmed.lastIndexOf(' ')) + '…';
}

// Let's test it

sentenceOne = "too short";
sentencetwo = "more than the max length";

console.log(trimString(sentenceOne, 15));
console.log(trimString(sentencetwo, 15));

Can Android do peer-to-peer ad-hoc networking?

Create a basic matrix in C (input by user !)

You need to dynamically allocate your matrix. For instance:

int* mat;
int dimx,dimy;
scanf("%d", &dimx);
scanf("%d", &dimy);
mat = malloc(dimx * dimy * sizeof(int));

This creates a linear array which can hold the matrix. At this point you can decide whether you want to access it column or row first. I would suggest making a quick macro which calculates the correct offset in the matrix.

How to decode a Base64 string?

I had issues with spaces showing in between my output and there was no answer online at all to fix this issue. I literally spend many hours trying to find a solution and found one from playing around with the code to the point that I almost did not even know what I typed in at the time that I got it to work. Here is my fix for the issue: [System.Text.Encoding]::UTF8.GetString(([System.Convert]::FromBase64String($base64string)|?{$_}))

How to do a join in linq to sql with method syntax?

Justin has correctly shown the expansion in the case where the join is just followed by a select. If you've got something else, it becomes more tricky due to transparent identifiers - the mechanism the C# compiler uses to propagate the scope of both halves of the join.

So to change Justin's example slightly:

var result = from sc in enumerableOfSomeClass
             join soc in enumerableOfSomeOtherClass
             on sc.Property1 equals soc.Property2
             where sc.X + sc.Y == 10
             select new { SomeClass = sc, SomeOtherClass = soc }

would be converted into something like this:

var result = enumerableOfSomeClass
    .Join(enumerableOfSomeOtherClass,
          sc => sc.Property1,
          soc => soc.Property2,
          (sc, soc) => new { sc, soc })
    .Where(z => z.sc.X + z.sc.Y == 10)
    .Select(z => new { SomeClass = z.sc, SomeOtherClass = z.soc });

The z here is the transparent identifier - but because it's transparent, you can't see it in the original query :)

React-redux 'connect' function accepts two arguments first is mapStateToProps and second is mapDispatchToProps check below ex.

export default connect(mapStateToProps, mapDispatchToProps)(Index); `

If we don't want retrieve state from redux then we set null instead of mapStateToProps.
