How do I create a custom Error in JavaScript?

This is fastest way to do it:

    let thisVar = false

    if (thisVar === false) {
            throw new Error("thisVar is false. It should be true.")
    }

How to auto-reload files in Node.js?

another simple solution is to use fs.readFile instead of using require you can save a text file contaning a json object, and create a interval on the server to reload this object.

pros:

  • no need to use external libs
  • relevant for production (reloading config file on change)
  • easy to implement

cons:

  • you can't reload a module - just a json containing key-value data

Fastest way to check a string is alphanumeric in Java

I've written the tests that compare using regular expressions (as per other answers) against not using regular expressions. Tests done on a quad core OSX10.8 machine running Java 1.6

Interestingly using regular expressions turns out to be about 5-10 times slower than manually iterating over a string. Furthermore the isAlphanumeric2() function is marginally faster than isAlphanumeric(). One supports the case where extended Unicode numbers are allowed, and the other is for when only standard ASCII numbers are allowed.

public class QuickTest extends TestCase {

    private final int reps = 1000000;

    public void testRegexp() {
        for(int i = 0; i < reps; i++)
            ("ab4r3rgf"+i).matches("[a-zA-Z0-9]");
    }

public void testIsAlphanumeric() {
    for(int i = 0; i < reps; i++)
        isAlphanumeric("ab4r3rgf"+i);
}

public void testIsAlphanumeric2() {
    for(int i = 0; i < reps; i++)
        isAlphanumeric2("ab4r3rgf"+i);
}

    public boolean isAlphanumeric(String str) {
        for (int i=0; i<str.length(); i++) {
            char c = str.charAt(i);
            if (!Character.isLetterOrDigit(c))
                return false;
        }

        return true;
    }

    public boolean isAlphanumeric2(String str) {
        for (int i=0; i<str.length(); i++) {
            char c = str.charAt(i);
            if (c < 0x30 || (c >= 0x3a && c <= 0x40) || (c > 0x5a && c <= 0x60) || c > 0x7a)
                return false;
        }
        return true;
    }

}

How do I convert an existing callback API to promises?

Combining works if the intended result of combination is that any of them matching results in the whole regexp matching.

How to disable and then enable onclick event on <div> with javascript

First of all this is JavaScript and not C#

Then you cannot disable a div because it normally has no functionality. To disable a click event, you simply have to remove the event from the dom object. (bind and unbind)...

When to use CouchDB over MongoDB and vice versa

Be aware of an issue with sparse unique indexes in MongoDB. I've hit it and it is extremely cumbersome to workaround.

The problem is this - you have a field, which is unique if present and you wish to find all the objects where the field is absent. The way sparse unique indexes are implemented in Mongo is that objects where that field is missing are not in the index at all - they cannot be retrieved by a query on that field - {$exists: false} just does not work.

The only workaround I have come up with is having a special null family of values, where an empty value is translated to a special prefix (like null:) concatenated to a uuid. This is a real headache, because one has to take care of transforming to/from the empty values when writing/quering/reading. A major nuisance.

I have never used server side javascript execution in MongoDB (it is not advised anyway) and their map/reduce has awful performance when there is just one Mongo node. Because of all these reasons I am now considering to check out CouchDB, maybe it fits more to my particular scenario.

BTW, if anyone knows the link to the respective Mongo issue describing the sparse unique index problem - please share.

How to list all the roles existing in Oracle database?

Regular expression to detect semi-colon terminated C++ for & while loops

I don't know that regex would handle something like that very well. Try something like this

line = line.Trim();
if(line.StartsWith("for") && line.EndsWith(";")){

}

How do I get the position selected in a RecyclerView?

Tab separated values in awk

Use:

awk -v FS='\t' -v OFS='\t' ...

Example from one of my scripts.

I use the FS and OFS variables to manipulate BIND zone files, which are tab delimited:

awk -v FS='\t' -v OFS='\t' \
    -v record_type=$record_type \
    -v hostname=$hostname \
    -v ip_address=$ip_address '
$1==hostname && $3==record_type {$4=ip_address}
{print}
' $zone_file > $temp

This is a clean and easy to read way to do this.

How do I tell Gradle to use specific JDK version?

If you are using Kotlin DSL, then in build.gradle.kts add:

tasks.withType<JavaCompile> {
    options.isFork = true
    options.forkOptions.javaHome = File("C:\\bin\\jdk-13.0.1\\")
}

Of course, I'm assuming that you have Windows OS and javac compiler is in path C:\bin\jdk-13.0.1\bin\javac. For Linux OS will be similarly.

'pip install' fails for every package ("Could not find a version that satisfies the requirement")

Upgrade pip as follows:

curl https://bootstrap.pypa.io/get-pip.py | python

Note: You may need to use sudo python above if not in a virtual environment.

What's happening:

Python.org sites are stopping support for TLS versions 1.0 and 1.1. This means that Mac OS X version 10.12 (Sierra) or older will not be able to use pip unless they upgrade pip as above.

(Note that upgrading pip via pip install --upgrade pip will also not upgrade it correctly. It is a chicken-and-egg issue)

This thread explains it (thanks to this Twitter post):

Mac users who use pip and PyPI:

If you are running macOS/OS X version 10.12 or older, then you ought to upgrade to the latest pip (9.0.3) to connect to the Python Package Index securely:

curl https://bootstrap.pypa.io/get-pip.py | python

and we recommend you do that by April 8th.

Pip 9.0.3 supports TLSv1.2 when running under system Python on macOS < 10.13. Official release notes: https://pip.pypa.io/en/stable/news/

Also, the Python status page:

Completed - The rolling brownouts are finished, and TLSv1.0 and TLSv1.1 have been disabled. Apr 11, 15:37 UTC

Update - The rolling brownouts have been upgraded to a blackout, TLSv1.0 and TLSv1.1 will be rejected with a HTTP 403 at all times. Apr 8, 15:49 UTC

Lastly, to avoid other install errors, make sure you also upgrade setuptools after doing the above:

pip install --upgrade setuptools

How to dynamically add a style for text-align using jQuery

 $(this).css({'text-align':'center'});

You can use class name and id in place of this

$('.classname').css({'text-align':'center'});

$('#id').css({'text-align':'center'});

Dataframe to Excel sheet

From your above needs, you will need to use both Python (to export pandas data frame) and VBA (to delete existing worksheet content and copy/paste external data).

With Python: use the to_csv or to_excel methods. I recommend the to_csv method which performs better with larger datasets.

# DF TO EXCEL
from pandas import ExcelWriter

writer = ExcelWriter('PythonExport.xlsx')
yourdf.to_excel(writer,'Sheet5')
writer.save()

# DF TO CSV
yourdf.to_csv('PythonExport.csv', sep=',')

With VBA: copy and paste source to destination ranges.

Fortunately, in VBA you can call Python scripts using Shell (assuming your OS is Windows).

Sub DataFrameImport()
  'RUN PYTHON TO EXPORT DATA FRAME
  Shell "C:\pathTo\python.exe fullpathOfPythonScript.py", vbNormalFocus

  'CLEAR EXISTING CONTENT
  ThisWorkbook.Worksheets(5).Cells.Clear

  'COPY AND PASTE TO WORKBOOK
  Workbooks("PythonExport").Worksheets(1).Cells.Copy
  ThisWorkbook.Worksheets(5).Range("A1").Select
  ThisWorkbook.Worksheets(5).Paste
End Sub

Alternatively, you can do vice versa: run a macro (ClearExistingContent) with Python. Be sure your Excel file is a macro-enabled (.xlsm) one with a saved macro to delete Sheet 5 content only. Note: macros cannot be saved with csv files.

import os
import win32com.client
from pandas import ExcelWriter

if os.path.exists("C:\Full Location\To\excelsheet.xlsm"):
  xlApp=win32com.client.Dispatch("Excel.Application")
  wb = xlApp.Workbooks.Open(Filename="C:\Full Location\To\excelsheet.xlsm")

  # MACRO TO CLEAR SHEET 5 CONTENT
  xlApp.Run("ClearExistingContent")
  wb.Save()
  xlApp.Quit()
  del xl

  # WRITE IN DATA FRAME TO SHEET 5
  writer = ExcelWriter('C:\Full Location\To\excelsheet.xlsm')
  yourdf.to_excel(writer,'Sheet5')
  writer.save()

Why is my method undefined for the type object?

Change your main to:

public static void main(String[] args) {
    EchoServer echoServer = new EchoServer();
    echoServer.listen();
}

When you declare Object EchoServer0; you have a few mistakes.

  1. EchoServer0 is of type Object, therefore it doesn't have the method listen().
  2. You will also need to create an instance of it with new.
  3. Another problem, this is only regarding naming conventions, you should call your variables starting by lower case letters, echoServer0 instead of EchoServer0. Uppercase names are usually for class names.
  4. You should not create a variable with the same name as its class. It is confusing.

PHP date() with timezone?

For such task, you should really be using PHP's DateTime class. Please ignore all of the answers advising you to use date() or date_set_time_zone, it's simply bad and outdated.

I'll use pseudocode to demonstrate, so try to adjust the code to suit your needs.

Assuming that variable $tz contains string name of a valid time zone and variable $timestamp contains the timestamp you wish to format according to time zone, the code would look like this:

$tz = 'Europe/London';
$timestamp = time();
$dt = new DateTime("now", new DateTimeZone($tz)); //first argument "must" be a string
$dt->setTimestamp($timestamp); //adjust the object to correct timestamp
echo $dt->format('d.m.Y, H:i:s');

DateTime class is powerful, and to grasp all of its capabilities - you should devote some of your time reading about it at php.net. To answer your question fully - yes, you can adjust the time zone parameter dynamically (on each iteration while reading from db, you can create a new DateTimeZone() object).

React Native TextInput that only accepts numeric characters

<TextInput autoCapitalize={'none'} maxLength={10} placeholder='Mobile Number'  value={this.state.mobile} onChangeText={(mobile) => this.onChanged(mobile)}/>

and onChanged method :

onChanged(text){
   var newText = '';
   var numbers = '0123456789';
   if(text.length < 1){
     this.setState({ mobile: '' });
   }
   for (var i=0; i < text.length; i++) {
        if(numbers.indexOf(text[i]) > -1 ) {
             newText = newText + text[i];
        }
        this.setState({ mobile: newText });
    }
}

How to get indices of a sorted array in Python

We will create another array of indexes from 0 to n-1 Then zip this to the original array and then sort it on the basis of the original values

ar = [1,2,3,4,5]
new_ar = list(zip(ar,[i for i in range(len(ar))]))
new_ar.sort()

`

The specified type member is not supported in LINQ to Entities. Only initializers, entity members, and entity navigation properties are supported

A lot of people are going to say this is a bad answer because it is not best practice but you can also convert it to a List before your where.

result = result.ToList().Where(p => date >= p.DOB);

Slauma's answer is better, but this would work as well. This cost more because ToList() will execute the Query against the database and move the results into memory.

How to set data attributes in HTML elements

HTML

<div id="mydiv" data-myval="10"></div>

JS

var a = $('#mydiv').data('myval'); //getter

$('#mydiv').data('myval',20); //setter

Demo

Reference

From the reference:

jQuery itself uses the .data() method to save information under the names 'events' and 'handle', and also reserves any data name starting with an underscore ('_') for internal use.

It should be noted that jQuery's data() doesn't change the data attribute in HTML.

So, if you need to change the data attribute in HTML, you should use .attr() instead.

HTML

<div id="outer">
    <div id="mydiv" data-myval="10"></div>
</div>

?JS:

alert($('#outer').html());   // alerts <div id="mydiv" data-myval="10"> </div>
var a = $('#mydiv').data('myval'); //getter
$('#mydiv').attr("data-myval","20"); //setter
alert($('#outer').html());   //alerts <div id="mydiv" data-myval="20"> </div>

Add unique constraint to combination of two columns

In my case, I needed to allow many inactives and only one combination of two keys active, like this:

UUL_USR_IDF  UUL_UND_IDF    UUL_ATUAL
137          18             0
137          19             0
137          20             1
137          21             0

This seems to work:

CREATE UNIQUE NONCLUSTERED INDEX UQ_USR_UND_UUL_USR_IDF_UUL_ATUAL
ON USER_UND(UUL_USR_IDF, UUL_ATUAL)
WHERE UUL_ATUAL = 1;

Here are my test cases:

SELECT * FROM USER_UND WHERE UUL_USR_IDF = 137

insert into USER_UND values (137, 22, 1) --I CAN NOT => Cannot insert duplicate key row in object 'dbo.USER_UND' with unique index 'UQ_USR_UND_UUL_USR_IDF_UUL_ATUAL'. The duplicate key value is (137, 1).

How do HashTables deal with collisions?

I've heard in my degree classes that a HashTable will place a new entry into the 'next available' bucket if the new Key entry collides with another.

This is actually not true, at least for the Oracle JDK (it is an implementation detail that could vary between different implementations of the API). Instead, each bucket contains a linked list of entries prior to Java 8, and a balanced tree in Java 8 or above.

then how would the HashTable still return the correct Value if this collision occurs when calling for one back with the collision key?

It uses the equals() to find the actually matching entry.

If I implement my own hashing function and use it as part of a look-up table (i.e. a HashMap or Dictionary), what strategies exist for dealing with collisions?

There are various collision handling strategies with different advantages and disadvantages. Wikipedia's entry on hash tables gives a good overview.

Parsing a YAML file in Python, and accessing the data?

Since PyYAML's yaml.load() function parses YAML documents to native Python data structures, you can just access items by key or index. Using the example from the question you linked:

import yaml
with open('tree.yaml', 'r') as f:
    doc = yaml.load(f)

To access branch1 text you would use:

txt = doc["treeroot"]["branch1"]
print txt
"branch1 text"

because, in your YAML document, the value of the branch1 key is under the treeroot key.

There is no ViewData item of type 'IEnumerable<SelectListItem>' that has the key 'xxx'

The cause isn't contrary to syntax rather than inappropriate usage of objects. Life Cycle of objects in ViewData, ViewBag, & View Life Cycle is shorter than in the session. Data defined in the formers will be lost after a request-response(if try to access after a request-response, you will get exceptions). So the formers are appropriate for passing data between View & Controller while the latter for storing temporary data. The temporary data should store in the session so that can be accessed many times.

What are good ways to prevent SQL injection?

SQL injection can be a tricky problem but there are ways around it. Your risk is reduced your risk simply by using an ORM like Linq2Entities, Linq2SQL, NHibrenate. However you can have SQL injection problems even with them.

The main thing with SQL injection is user controlled input (as is with XSS). In the most simple example if you have a login form (I hope you never have one that just does this) that takes a username and password.

SELECT * FROM Users WHERE Username = '" + username + "' AND password = '" + password + "'"

If a user were to input the following for the username Admin' -- the SQL Statement would look like this when executing against the database.

SELECT * FROM Users WHERE Username = 'Admin' --' AND password = ''

In this simple case using a paramaterized query (which is what an ORM does) would remove your risk. You also have a the issue of a lesser known SQL injection attack vector and that's with stored procedures. In this case even if you use a paramaterized query or an ORM you would still have a SQL injection problem. Stored procedures can contain execute commands, and those commands themselves may be suceptable to SQL injection attacks.

CREATE PROCEDURE SP_GetLogin @username varchar(100), @password varchar(100) AS
DECLARE @sql nvarchar(4000)
SELECT @sql = ' SELECT * FROM users' +
              ' FROM Product Where username = ''' + @username + ''' AND password = '''+@password+''''

EXECUTE sp_executesql @sql

So this example would have the same SQL injection problem as the previous one even if you use paramaterized queries or an ORM. And although the example seems silly you'd be surprised as to how often something like this is written.

My recommendations would be to use an ORM to immediately reduce your chances of having a SQL injection problem, and then learn to spot code and stored procedures which can have the problem and work to fix them. I don't recommend using ADO.NET (SqlClient, SqlCommand etc...) directly unless you have to, not because it's somehow not safe to use it with parameters but because it's that much easier to get lazy and just start writing a SQL query using strings and just ignoring the parameters. ORMS do a great job of forcing you to use parameters because it's just what they do.

Next Visit the OWASP site on SQL injection https://www.owasp.org/index.php/SQL_Injection and use the SQL injection cheat sheet to make sure you can spot and take out any issues that will arise in your code. https://www.owasp.org/index.php/SQL_Injection_Prevention_Cheat_Sheet finally I would say put in place a good code review between you and other developers at your company where you can review each others code for things like SQL injection and XSS. A lot of times programmers miss this stuff because they're trying to rush out some feature and don't spend too much time on reviewing their code.

Cannot import keras after installation

Firstly checked the list of installed Python packages by:

pip list | grep -i keras

If there is keras shown then install it by:

now check the log, if there is any pending dependencies are present, it will affect your installation. So remove dependencies and then again install it.

Update Rows in SSIS OLEDB Destination

You can't do a bulk-update in SSIS within a dataflow task with the OOB components.

The general pattern is to identify your inserts, updates and deletes and push the updates and deletes to a staging table(s) and after the Dataflow Task, use a set-based update or delete in an Execute SQL Task. Look at Andy Leonard's Stairway to Integration Services series. Scroll about 3/4 the way down the article to "Set-Based Updates" to see the pattern.

You'll get much better performance with a pattern like this versus using the OLE DB Command transformation for anything but trivial amounts of data.

If you are into third party tools, I believe CozyRoc and I know PragmaticWorks have a merge destination component.

How to create a GUID/UUID using iOS

+(NSString *)getUUID
{
    CFUUIDRef newUniqueId = CFUUIDCreate(kCFAllocatorDefault);

How to remove all non-alpha numeric characters from a string in MySQL?

I tried a few solutions but at the end used replace. My data set is part numbers and I fairly know what to expect. But just for sanity, I used PHP to build the long query:

$dirty = array(' ', '-', '.', ',', ':', '?', '/', '!', '&', '@');
$query = 'part_no';
foreach ($dirty as $dirt) {
    $query = "replace($query,'$dirt','')";
}
echo $query;

This outputs something I used to get a headache from:

replace(replace(replace(replace(replace(replace(replace(replace(replace(replace(part_no,' ',''),'-',''),'.',''),',',''),':',''),'?',''),'/',''),'!',''),'&',''),'@','')

How to get DropDownList SelectedValue in Controller in MVC

Use SelectList to bind @HtmlDropdownListFor and specify selectedValue parameter in it.

    public SelectList Vendor { get; set; }
    public int VenderID{get;set;}
   }

Excel - Using COUNTIF/COUNTIFS across multiple sheets/same column

This could be solved without VBA by the following technique.

In this example I am counting all the threes (3) in the range A:A of the sheets Page M904, Page M905 and Page M906.

List all the sheet names in a single continuous range like in the following example. Here listed in the range D3:D5.

enter image description here

Then by having the lookup value in cell B2, the result can be found in cell B4 by using the following formula:

=SUMPRODUCT(COUNTIF(INDIRECT("'"&D3:D5&"'!A:A"), B2))

Python: Checking if a 'Dictionary' is empty doesn't seem to work

You can also use get(). Initially I believed it to only check if key existed.

>>> d = { 'a':1, 'b':2, 'c':{}}
>>> bool(d.get('c'))
False
>>> d['c']['e']=1
>>> bool(d.get('c'))
True

What I like with get is that it does not trigger an exception, so it makes it easy to traverse large structures.

export k=$(date "+%k");
if [ $k -ge 16 ]
    then exit 0;
else
    echo "good job for nothing";
fi;

that way I resolved my problem. Hope that will help for you too.

What is the difference between __str__ and __repr__?

From the book Fluent Python:

A basic requirement for a Python object is to provide usable string representations of itself, one used for debugging and logging, another for presentation to end users. That is why the
special methods __repr__ and __str__ exist in the data model.

How to convert JSON object to JavaScript array?

Suppose you have:

var j = {0: "1", 1: "2", 2: "3", 3: "4"};

You could get the values with (supported in practically all browser versions):

Object.keys(j).map(function(_) { return j[_]; })

or simply:

Object.values(j)

Output:

["1", "2", "3", "4"]

Bulk Insert Correctly Quoted CSV File in SQL Server

I had the same problem, with data that only occasionally double-quotes some text. My solution is to let the BULK LOAD import the double-quotes, then run a REPLACE on the imported data.

For example:

bulk insert CodePoint_tbl from "F:\Data\Map\CodePointOpen\Data\CSV\ab.csv" with (FIRSTROW = 1, FIELDTERMINATOR = ',', ROWTERMINATOR='\n');

update CodePoint_tbl set Postcode = replace(Postcode,'"','') where charindex('"',Postcode) > 0

To make it less painful to write the REPLACE script, just copy and paste what you need from the results of something like this:

select C.ColID, C.[name] as Columnname into #Columns
from syscolumns C
join sysobjects T on C.id = T.id
where T.[name] = 'User_tbl'
order by 1;

declare @QUOTE char(1);
set @QUOTE = Char(39);
select 'Update User_tbl set '+ColumnName+'=replace('+ColumnName+','
 + @QUOTE + '"' + @QUOTE + ',' + @QUOTE + @QUOTE + ');
GO'
from #Columns
where ColID > 2
order by ColID;

Can I use an HTML input type "date" to collect only a year?

You can do the following:

  1. Generate an Array of the years I'll be accepting,
  2. Use a select box.
  3. Use each item from your Array as an 'option' tag.

Example using PHP (you can do this in any language of your choice):

Server:

<?php $years = range(1900, strftime("%Y", time())); ?>

HTML

<select>
  <option>Select Year</option>
  <?php foreach($years as $year) : ?>
    <option value="<?php echo $year; ?>"><?php echo $year; ?></option>
  <?php endforeach; ?>
</select>

As an added benefit, this works has a browser compatibility of a 100% ;-)

Nexus 7 (2013) and Win 7 64 - cannot install USB driver despite checking many forums and online resources

cracked it after 2 hours...

  1. download this usb driver: http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/EeePAD/nexus7/usb_driver_r06_windows.zip

2.go to the device manager , right click the nexus device and choose properties, choose "hardware" and then choose update your driver , choose manualy and pick the folder you opend the zip file to and press apply.

3.open your setting in nexus . go to : "about the device" , at to the bottom of the page and press it strong text7 times .

4.open the developers menu and enable debug with usb.

5.finally press storage from the setting menu and click the menu that apears at the top left corner. press the connect usb to the computer, choose the second option (PTP).

one more thing: if that doesn't work restart your computer

that should do the trick , they couldn't make it more simple than that...

React Error: Target Container is not a DOM Element

Also you can do something like that:

document.addEventListener("DOMContentLoaded", function(event) {
  React.renderComponent(
    CardBox({url: "/cards/?format=json", pollInterval: 2000}),
    document.getElementById("content")
  );
})

The DOMContentLoaded event fires when the initial HTML document has been completely loaded and parsed, without waiting for stylesheets, images, and subframes to finish loading.

jQuery or Javascript - how to disable window scroll without overflow:hidden;

CSS 'fixed' solution (like Facebook does):

body_temp = $("<div class='body_temp' />")
    .append($('body').contents())
    .css('position', 'fixed')
    .css('top', "-" + scrolltop + 'px')
    .width($(window).width())
    .appendTo('body');

to toggle to normal state:

var scrolltop = Math.abs($('.body_temp').position().top);
$('body').append($('.body_temp').contents()).scrollTop(scrolltop);

String to HtmlDocument

I've adapted Nikhil's answer somewhat to simplify it. Admittedly, I have not run it through a .net compiler and there are likely very good reasons for the lines Nikhil put in which I have omitted. However, at least in my use case (a very simple page) they were unnecessary.

My use case was for a quick powershell script:

$htmlText = $(New-Object
System.Net.WebClient).DownloadString("<URI HERE>") #Get the HTML document from a webserver
$browser = New-Object System.Windows.Forms.WebBrowser
$browser.DocumentText = $htmlText
$browser.Document.Write($htmlText)
$response = $browser.document

For my case, this returned an HTMLDocument object with HTMLElement objects in it, instead of __ComObject object types (which are a challenge to use in powershell class code) returned by a call to Invoke-WebRequest in PS 5.1.14393.1944

I believe the equivalent C# code is:

public System.Windows.Forms.HtmlDocument GetHtmlDocument(string html)
{
    WebBrowser browser = new WebBrowser();
    browser.DocumentText = html;
    browser.Document.Write(html);
    return browser.Document;
}

How can I read a text file from the SD card in Android?

You should have READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE permission for reading sdcard. Add permission in manifest.xml

<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE" />

From android 6.0 or higher, your app must ask user to grant the dangerous permissions at runtime. Please refer this link Permissions overview

if (Build.VERSION.SDK_INT >= Build.VERSION_CODES.M) {
    if (checkSelfPermission(Manifest.permission.READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE) != PackageManager.PERMISSION_GRANTED) {
        ActivityCompat.requestPermissions(this, new String[]{Manifest.permission.READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE}, 0);

How to pass complex object to ASP.NET WebApi GET from jQuery ajax call?

After finding this StackOverflow question/answer

Complex type is getting null in a ApiController parameter

the [FromBody] attribute on the controller method needs to be [FromUri] since a GET does not have a body. After this change the "filter" complex object is passed correctly.

How to use SSH to run a local shell script on a remote machine?

This is an extension to YarekT's answer to combine inline remote commands with passing ENV variables from the local machine to the remote host so you can parameterize your scripts on the remote side:

ssh user@host ARG1=$ARG1 ARG2=$ARG2 'bash -s' <<'ENDSSH'
  # commands to run on remote host
  echo $ARG1 $ARG2
ENDSSH

I found this exceptionally helpful by keeping it all in one script so it's very readable and maintainable.

Why this works. ssh supports the following syntax:

ssh user@host remote_command

In bash we can specify environment variables to define prior to running a command on a single line like so:

ENV_VAR_1='value1' ENV_VAR_2='value2' bash -c 'echo $ENV_VAR_1 $ENV_VAR_2'

That makes it easy to define variables prior to running a command. In this case echo is our command we're running. Everything before echo defines environment variables.

So we combine those two features and YarekT's answer to get:

ssh user@host ARG1=$ARG1 ARG2=$ARG2 'bash -s' <<'ENDSSH'...

In this case we are setting ARG1 and ARG2 to local values. Sending everything after user@host as the remote_command. When the remote machine executes the command ARG1 and ARG2 are set the local values, thanks to local command line evaluation, which defines environment variables on the remote server, then executes the bash -s command using those variables. Voila.

C# DataRow Empty-check

I know this has been answered already and it's an old question, but here's an extension method to do the same:

public static class DataExtensions
{
    public static bool AreAllCellsEmpty(this DataRow row)
    {
        var itemArray = row.ItemArray;
        if(itemArray==null)
            return true;
        return itemArray.All(x => string.IsNullOrWhiteSpace(x.ToString()));
    }
}

And you use it like so:

if (dr.AreAllCellsEmpty())
// etc

AttributeError: 'tuple' object has no attribute

You're returning a tuple. Index it.

What does "-ne" mean in bash?

This is one of those things that can be difficult to search for if you don't already know where to look.

[ is actually a command, not part of the bash shell syntax as you might expect. It happens to be a Bash built-in command, so it's documented in the Bash manual.

There's also an external command that does the same thing; on many systems, it's provided by the GNU Coreutils package.

[ is equivalent to the test command, except that [ requires ] as its last argument, and test does not.

Assuming the bash documentation is installed on your system, if you type info bash and search for 'test' or '[' (the apostrophes are part of the search), you'll find the documentation for the [ command, also known as the test command. If you use man bash instead of info bash, search for ^ *test (the word test at the beginning of a line, following some number of spaces).

Following the reference to "Bash Conditional Expressions" will lead you to the description of -ne, which is the numeric inequality operator ("ne" stands for "not equal). By contrast, != is the string inequality operator.

You can also find bash documentation on the web.

The official definition of the test command is the POSIX standard (to which the bash implementation should conform reasonably well, perhaps with some extensions).

Bash tool to get nth line from a file

Wow, all the possibilities!

Try this:

sed -n "${lineNum}p" $file

or one of these depending upon your version of Awk:

awk  -vlineNum=$lineNum 'NR == lineNum {print $0}' $file
awk -v lineNum=4 '{if (NR == lineNum) {print $0}}' $file
awk '{if (NR == lineNum) {print $0}}' lineNum=$lineNum $file

(You may have to try the nawk or gawk command).

Is there a tool that only does the print that particular line? Not one of the standard tools. However, sed is probably the closest and simplest to use.

How to install a specific JDK on Mac OS X?

Since most answers are out of date, here's what works as of end of 2018 under the assumption that

  1. You want to install the GPL version of OpenJDK.[0]
  2. You do not want to install Homebrew

In that case, grab the desired version from one the many available, freely usable OpenJDK editions, e.g.:

Some of these include installers, but if not you can do the following. Assuming here version 11.0.1 for Mac. In your favorite shell, run:

tar -xzf openjdk-11.0.1_osx-x64_bin.tar.gz
sudo mv jdk-11.0.1.jdk /Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines
# Fix owner and group
sudo chown -R root:wheel /Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/jdk-11.0.1.jdk
# (Optional) Check if the new JDK can be found
/usr/libexec/java_home
=> /Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/jdk-11.0.1.jdk/Contents/Home

[0] Note that the Oracle branded JDK has significant licensing restrictions allowing you its use basically only for testing, i.e., not for production. If you do not have a support agreement with Oracle, then it seems risky to me to use their JDK, especially since the differences to OpenJDK are minimal.

Convert a list of characters into a string

This works in many popular languages like JavaScript and Ruby, why not in Python?

>>> ['a', 'b', 'c'].join('')
Traceback (most recent call last):
   File "<stdin>", line 1, in <module>
AttributeError: 'list' object has no attribute 'join'

Strange enough, in Python the join method is on the str class:

# this is the Python way
"".join(['a','b','c','d'])

Why join is not a method in the list object like in JavaScript or other popular script languages? It is one example of how the Python community thinks. Since join is returning a string, it should be placed in the string class, not on the list class, so the str.join(list) method means: join the list into a new string using str as a separator (in this case str is an empty string).

Somehow I got to love this way of thinking after a while. I can complain about a lot of things in Python design, but not about its coherence.

How do I create ColorStateList programmatically?

Unfortunately none of the solutions works for me.

  1. If you don't set pressed state at first it won't detect it.
  2. If you set it, then you need to define empty state to add default color
ColorStateList themeColorStateList = new ColorStateList(
        new int[][]{
                new int[]{android.R.attr.state_pressed},
                new int[]{android.R.attr.state_enabled},
                new int[]{android.R.attr.state_focused, android.R.attr.state_pressed},
                new int[]{-android.R.attr.state_enabled},
                new int[]{} // this should be empty to make default color as we want
        },
        new int[]{
                pressedFontColor,
                defaultFontColor,
                pressedFontColor,
                disabledFontColor,
                defaultFontColor
        }
);

This is constructor from source code:

/**
 * Creates a ColorStateList that returns the specified mapping from
 * states to colors.
 */
public ColorStateList(int[][] states, int[] colors) {
    mStateSpecs = states;
    mColors = colors;

    if (states.length > 0) {
        mDefaultColor = colors[0];

        for (int i = 0; i < states.length; i++) {
            if (states[i].length == 0) {
                mDefaultColor = colors[i];
            }
        }

In [26]: f = {'A':['sum','mean'], 'B':['prod']}

In [27]: df.groupby('GRP').agg(f)
Out[27]:
            A                   B
          sum      mean      prod
GRP

1    0.454824  0.227412  0.034060

UPDATE 1:

Because the aggregate function works on Series, references to the other column names are lost. To get around this, you can reference the full dataframe and index it using the group indices within the lambda function.

Here's a hacky workaround:

In [67]: f = {'A':['sum','mean'], 'B':['prod'], 'D': lambda g: df.loc[g.index].E.sum()}

In [69]: df.groupby('GRP').agg(f)
Out[69]:
            A                   B         D
          sum      mean      prod  <lambda>
GRP
0    0.719580  0.359790  0.102004  1.170219
1    0.454824  0.227412  0.034060  1.182901

Here, the resultant 'D' column is made up of the summed 'E' values.

UPDATE 2:

Here's a method that I think will do everything you ask. First make a custom lambda function. Below, g references the group. When aggregating, g will be a Series. Passing g.index to df.ix[] selects the current group from df. I then test if column C is less than 0.5. The returned boolean series is passed to g[] which selects only those rows meeting the criteria.

In [95]: cust = lambda g: g[df.loc[g.index]['C'] < 0.5].sum()

In [96]: f = {'A':['sum','mean'], 'B':['prod'], 'D': {'my name': cust}}

In [97]: df.groupby('GRP').agg(f)
Out[97]:
            A                   B         D
          sum      mean      prod   my name
GRP
0    0.719580  0.359790  0.102004  0.204072

Partly cherry-picking a commit with Git

Actually, the best solution for this question is to use checkout commend

git checkout <branch> <path1>,<path2> ..

For example, assume you are in master, you want to the changes from dev1 on project1/Controller/WebController1.java and project1/Service/WebService1.java, you can use this:

git checkout dev1 project1/Controller/WebController1.java project1/Service/WebService1.java

That means the master branch only updates from dev1 on those two paths.

socket connect() vs bind()

From Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berkeley_sockets#bind.28.29

connect():

The connect() system call connects a socket, identified by its file descriptor, to a remote host specified by that host's address in the argument list.

Certain types of sockets are connectionless, most commonly user datagram protocol sockets. For these sockets, connect takes on a special meaning: the default target for sending and receiving data gets set to the given address, allowing the use of functions such as send() and recv() on connectionless sockets.

connect() returns an integer representing the error code: 0 represents success, while -1 represents an error.

bind():

bind() assigns a socket to an address. When a socket is created using socket(), it is only given a protocol family, but not assigned an address. This association with an address must be performed with the bind() system call before the socket can accept connections to other hosts. bind() takes three arguments:

sockfd, a descriptor representing the socket to perform the bind on. my_addr, a pointer to a sockaddr structure representing the address to bind to. addrlen, a socklen_t field specifying the size of the sockaddr structure. Bind() returns 0 on success and -1 if an error occurs.

Examples: 1.)Using Connect

#include <stdio.h>
#include <sys/socket.h>
#include <netinet/in.h>
#include <string.h>

int main(){
  int clientSocket;
  char buffer[1024];
  struct sockaddr_in serverAddr;
  socklen_t addr_size;

  /*---- Create the socket. The three arguments are: ----*/
  /* 1) Internet domain 2) Stream socket 3) Default protocol (TCP in this case) */
  clientSocket = socket(PF_INET, SOCK_STREAM, 0);

  /*---- Configure settings of the server address struct ----*/
  /* Address family = Internet */
  serverAddr.sin_family = AF_INET;
  /* Set port number, using htons function to use proper byte order */
  serverAddr.sin_port = htons(7891);
  /* Set the IP address to desired host to connect to */
  serverAddr.sin_addr.s_addr = inet_addr("192.168.1.17");
  /* Set all bits of the padding field to 0 */
  memset(serverAddr.sin_zero, '\0', sizeof serverAddr.sin_zero);

  /*---- Connect the socket to the server using the address struct ----*/
  addr_size = sizeof serverAddr;
  connect(clientSocket, (struct sockaddr *) &serverAddr, addr_size);

  /*---- Read the message from the server into the buffer ----*/
  recv(clientSocket, buffer, 1024, 0);

  /*---- Print the received message ----*/
  printf("Data received: %s",buffer);

  return 0;
}

2.)Bind Example:

int main()
{
    struct sockaddr_in source, destination = {}; //two sockets declared as previously
    int sock = 0;
    int datalen = 0;
    int pkt = 0;

    uint8_t *send_buffer, *recv_buffer;

    struct sockaddr_storage fromAddr;   // same as the previous entity struct sockaddr_storage serverStorage;
    unsigned int addrlen;  //in the previous example socklen_t addr_size;
    struct timeval tv;
    tv.tv_sec = 3;  /* 3 Seconds Time-out */
    tv.tv_usec = 0;

    /* creating the socket */
    if ((sock = socket(AF_INET, SOCK_DGRAM, IPPROTO_UDP)) < 0)
        printf("Failed to create socket\n");

    /*set the socket options*/
    setsockopt(sock, SOL_SOCKET, SO_RCVTIMEO, (char *)&tv, sizeof(struct timeval));

    /*Inititalize source to zero*/
    memset(&source, 0, sizeof(source));       //source is an instance of sockaddr_in. Initialization to zero
    /*Inititalize destinaton to zero*/
    memset(&destination, 0, sizeof(destination));

    /*---- Configure settings of the source address struct, WHERE THE PACKET IS COMING FROM ----*/
    /* Address family = Internet */
    source.sin_family = AF_INET;
    /* Set IP address to localhost */
    source.sin_addr.s_addr = INADDR_ANY;  //INADDR_ANY = 0.0.0.0
    /* Set port number, using htons function to use proper byte order */
    source.sin_port = htons(7005);
    /* Set all bits of the padding field to 0 */
    memset(source.sin_zero, '\0', sizeof source.sin_zero); //optional

    /*bind socket to the source WHERE THE PACKET IS COMING FROM*/
    if (bind(sock, (struct sockaddr *) &source, sizeof(source)) < 0)
        printf("Failed to bind socket");

    /* setting the destination, i.e our OWN IP ADDRESS AND PORT */
    destination.sin_family = AF_INET;
    destination.sin_addr.s_addr = inet_addr("127.0.0.1");
    destination.sin_port = htons(7005);

    //Creating a Buffer;
    send_buffer=(uint8_t *) malloc(350);
    recv_buffer=(uint8_t *) malloc(250);

    addrlen=sizeof(fromAddr);

    memset((void *) recv_buffer, 0, 250);
    memset((void *) send_buffer, 0, 350);

    sendto(sock, send_buffer, 20, 0,(struct sockaddr *) &destination, sizeof(destination));

    pkt=recvfrom(sock, recv_buffer, 98,0,(struct sockaddr *)&destination, &addrlen);
    if(pkt > 0)
        printf("%u bytes received\n", pkt);
    }

I hope that clarifies the difference

Please note that the socket type that you declare will depend on what you require, this is extremely important

How can I render repeating React elements?

In the spirit of functional programming, let's make our components a bit easier to work with by using abstractions.

// converts components into mappable functions
var mappable = function(component){
  return function(x, i){
    return component({key: i}, x);
  }
}

// maps on 2-dimensional arrays
var map2d = function(m1, m2, xss){
  return xss.map(function(xs, i, arr){
    return m1(xs.map(m2), i, arr);
  });
}

var td = mappable(React.DOM.td);
var tr = mappable(React.DOM.tr);
var th = mappable(React.DOM.th);

Now we can define our render like this:

render: function(){
  return (
    <table>
      <thead>{this.props.titles.map(th)}</thead>
      <tbody>{map2d(tr, td, this.props.rows)}</tbody>
    </table>
  );
}

jsbin

An alternative to our map2d would be a curried map function, but people tend to shy away from currying.

Quadratic and cubic regression in Excel

You need to use an undocumented trick with Excel's LINEST function:

=LINEST(known_y's, [known_x's], [const], [stats])

Background

A regular linear regression is calculated (with your data) as:

=LINEST(B2:B21,A2:A21)

which returns a single value, the linear slope (m) according to the formula:

enter image description here

which for your data:

enter image description here

is:

enter image description here

Undocumented trick Number 1

You can also use Excel to calculate a regression with a formula that uses an exponent for x different from 1, e.g. x1.2:

enter image description here

using the formula:

=LINEST(B2:B21, A2:A21^1.2)

which for you data:

enter image description here

is:

enter image description here

You're not limited to one exponent

Excel's LINEST function can also calculate multiple regressions, with different exponents on x at the same time, e.g.:

=LINEST(B2:B21,A2:A21^{1,2})

Note: if locale is set to European (decimal symbol ","), then comma should be replaced by semicolon and backslash, i.e. =LINEST(B2:B21;A2:A21^{1\2})

Now Excel will calculate regressions using both x1 and x2 at the same time:

enter image description here

How to actually do it

The impossibly tricky part there's no obvious way to see the other regression values. In order to do that you need to:

  • select the cell that contains your formula:

    enter image description here

  • extend the selection the left 2 spaces (you need the select to be at least 3 cells wide):

    enter image description here

  • press F2

  • press Ctrl+Shift+Enter

    enter image description here

You will now see your 3 regression constants:

  y = -0.01777539x^2 + 6.864151123x + -591.3531443

Bonus Chatter

I had a function that I wanted to perform a regression using some exponent:

y = m×xk + b

But I didn't know the exponent. So I changed the LINEST function to use a cell reference instead:

=LINEST(B2:B21,A2:A21^F3, true, true)

With Excel then outputting full stats (the 4th paramter to LINEST):

enter image description here

I tell the Solver to maximize R2:

enter image description here

And it can figure out the best exponent. Which for you data:

enter image description here

is:

enter image description here

Eclipse IDE for Java - Full Dark Theme

Here is my Black Eclipse Custom CSS for Chrome Theme Plugin. Usable with eclipse 4.2 and 4.3. Main goal was to make it look nice in ubuntu, besides making it "darker".

Caution: May or may not work on Windows Systems, only checked with ubuntu.

Required: Chrome Theme and Color Theme plugin

  1. Install those mentioned plugins. They can be found in the eclipse marketplace.

  2. Install my variant of Gedit Oblivion Theme in Color Theme and activate it. (http://eclipsecolorthemes.org/?view=theme&id=12544)

  3. Insert the custom css in css editor of Chrome Theme. I spend several hours with CSS Spy to find out all the relevant information to make eclipse as black and this file as small as possible. There is also an .epf File for the Chrome Theme plugin preferences you should import. You can get it from my dropbox: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/ye5tosl3cjhx96d/yL-_Y5j1PE

In the end your eclipse will look like this: Black Eclipse running in ubuntu

LEFT JOIN vs. LEFT OUTER JOIN in SQL Server

There are only 3 joins:

  • A) Cross Join = Cartesian (E.g: Table A, Table B)
  • B) Inner Join = JOIN (E.g: Table A Join/Inner Join Table B)
  • C) Outer join:

       There are three type of outer join
       1) Left Outer Join = Left Join
       2) Right Outer Join = Right Join
       3) Full Outer Join = Full Join

Hope it'd help.

How to secure phpMyAdmin

One of my concerns with phpMyAdmin was that by default, all MySQL users can access the db. If DB's root password is compromised, someone can wreck havoc on the db. I wanted to find a way to avoid that by restricting which MySQL user can login to phpMyAdmin.

I have found using AllowDeny configuration in PhpMyAdmin to be very useful. http://wiki.phpmyadmin.net/pma/Config#AllowDeny_.28rules.29

AllowDeny lets you configure access to phpMyAdmin in a similar way to Apache. If you set the 'order' to explicit, it will only grant access to users defined in 'rules' section. In the rules, section you restrict MySql users who can access use the phpMyAdmin.

$cfg['Servers'][$i]['AllowDeny']['order'] = 'explicit'
$cfg['Servers'][$i]['AllowDeny']['rules'] = array('pma-user from all')

Now you have limited access to the user named pma-user in MySQL, you can grant limited privilege to that user.

grant select on db_name.some_table to 'pma-user'@'app-server'

runOnUiThread in fragment

Use a Kotlin extension function

fun Fragment?.runOnUiThread(action: () -> Unit) {
    this ?: return
    if (!isAdded) return // Fragment not attached to an Activity
    activity?.runOnUiThread(action)
}

Then, in any Fragment you can just call runOnUiThread. This keeps calls consistent across activities and fragments.

runOnUiThread {
    // Call your code here
}

NOTE: If Fragment is no longer attached to an Activity, callback will not be called and no exception will be thrown

If you want to access this style from anywhere, you can add a common object and import the method:

object ThreadUtil {
    private val handler = Handler(Looper.getMainLooper())

    fun runOnUiThread(action: () -> Unit) {
        if (Looper.myLooper() != Looper.getMainLooper()) {
            handler.post(action)
        } else {
            action.invoke()
        }
    }
}

Freely convert between List<T> and IEnumerable<T>

To prevent duplication in memory, resharper is suggesting this:

List<string> myList = new List<string>();
IEnumerable<string> myEnumerable = myList;
List<string> listAgain = myList as List<string>() ?? myEnumerable.ToList();

.ToList() returns a new immutable list. So changes to listAgain does not effect myList in @Tamas Czinege answer. This is correct in most instances for least two reasons: This helps prevent changes in one area effecting the other area (loose coupling), and it is very readable, since we shouldn't be designing code with compiler concerns.

But there are certain instances, like being in a tight loop or working on an embedded or low memory system, where compiler considerations should be taken into consideration.

Convert JSON array to Python list

data will return you a string representation of a list, but it is actually still a string. Just check the type of data with type(data). That means if you try using indexing on this string representation of a list as such data['fruits'][0], it will return you "[" as it is the first character of data['fruits']

You can do json.loads(data['fruits']) to convert it back to a Python list so that you can interact with regular list indexing. There are 2 other ways you can convert it back to a Python list suggested here

Format Date/Time in XAML in Silverlight

For me this worked:

<TextBlock Text="{Binding Date , StringFormat=g}" Width="130"/>

If want to show seconds also using G instead of g :

<TextBlock Text="{Binding Date , StringFormat=G}" Width="130"/>

Also if want for changing date type to another like Persian , using Language :

<TextBlock Text="{Binding Date , StringFormat=G}" Width="130" Language="fa-IR"/>

DataGridView AutoFit and Fill

You need to use the DataGridViewColumn.AutoSizeMode property.

You can use one of these values for column 0 and 1:

AllCells: The column width adjusts to fit the contents of all cells in the column, including the header cell.
AllCellsExceptHeader: The column width adjusts to fit the contents of all cells in the column, excluding the header cell.
DisplayedCells: The column width adjusts to fit the contents of all cells in the column that are in rows currently displayed onscreen, including the header cell.
DisplayedCellsExceptHeader: The column width adjusts to fit the contents of all cells in the column that are in rows currently displayed onscreen, excluding the header cell.

Then you use the Fill value for column 2

The column width adjusts so that the widths of all columns exactly fills the display area of the control...

this.DataGridView1.Columns[0].AutoSizeMode = DataGridViewAutoSizeColumnMode.DisplayedCells;
this.DataGridView1.Columns[1].AutoSizeMode = DataGridViewAutoSizeColumnMode.DisplayedCells;
this.DataGridView1.Columns[2].AutoSizeMode = DataGridViewAutoSizeColumnMode.Fill;

As pointed out by other users, the default value can be set at datagridview level with DataGridView.AutoSizeColumnsMode property.

this.DataGridView1.Columns[0].AutoSizeMode = DataGridViewAutoSizeColumnMode.DisplayedCells;
this.DataGridView1.Columns[1].AutoSizeMode = DataGridViewAutoSizeColumnMode.DisplayedCells;

could be:

this.DataGridView1.AutoSizeColumnsMode = DataGridViewAutoSizeColumnsMode.DisplayedCells;

Important note:

If your grid is bound to a datasource and columns are auto-generated (AutoGenerateColumns property set to True), you need to use the DataBindingComplete event to apply style AFTER columns have been created.

In some scenarios (change cells value by code for example), I had to call DataGridView1.AutoResizeColumns(); to refresh the grid.

How to add users to Docker container?

Alternatively you can do like this.

RUN addgroup demo && adduser -DH -G demo demo

First command creates group called demo. Second command creates demo user and adds him to previously created demo group.

Flags stands for:

-G Group
-D Don't assign password
-H Don't create home directory

How to reset index in a pandas dataframe?

DataFrame.reset_index is what you're looking for. If you don't want it saved as a column, then do:

df = df.reset_index(drop=True)

If you don't want to reassign:

df.reset_index(drop=True, inplace=True)

Writing data into CSV file in C#

You might just have to add a line feed "\n\r".

What does {0} mean when found in a string in C#?

This is what we called Composite Formatting of the .NET Framework to convert the value of an object to its text representation and embed that representation in a string. The resulting string is written to the output stream.

The overloaded Console.WriteLine Method (String, Object)Writes the text representation of the specified object, followed by the current line terminator, to the standard output stream using the specified format information.

Convert Iterator to ArrayList

Note there is a difference between Iterable and Iterator.

If you have an Iterable, then with Java 8 you can use this solution:

Iterable<Element> iterable = createIterable();
List<Element> array = StreamSupport
    .stream(iterable.spliterator(), false)
    .collect(Collectors.toList());

As I know Collectors.toList() creates ArrayList instance.

Actually in my opinion, it also looks good in one line.
For example if you need to return List<Element> from some method:

return StreamSupport.stream(iter.spliterator(), false).collect(Collectors.toList());

redirect while passing arguments

I found that none of the answers here applied to my specific use case, so I thought I would share my solution.

I was looking to redirect an unauthentciated user to public version of an app page with any possible URL params. Example:

/app/4903294/my-great-car?email=coolguy%40gmail.com to

/public/4903294/my-great-car?email=coolguy%40gmail.com

Here's the solution that worked for me.

return redirect(url_for('app.vehicle', vid=vid, year_make_model=year_make_model, **request.args))

Hope this helps someone!

How do I remove all non-ASCII characters with regex and Notepad++?

In Notepad++, if you go to menu Search ? Find characters in range ? Non-ASCII Characters (128-255) you can then step through the document to each non-ASCII character.

Be sure to tick off "Wrap around" if you want to loop in the document for all non-ASCII characters.

HTML form with two submit buttons and two "target" attributes

Alternate Solution. Don't get messed up with onclick,buttons,server side and all.Just create a new form with different action like this.

<form method=post name=main onsubmit="return validate()" action="scale_test.html">
<input type=checkbox value="AC Hi-Side Pressure">AC Hi-Side Pressure<br>
<input type=checkbox value="Engine_Speed">Engine Speed<br>
<input type=submit value="Linear Scale" />
</form>
<form method=post name=main1 onsubmit="return v()" action=scale_log.html>
<input type=submit name=log id=log value="Log Scale">
</form>

Now in Javascript you can get all the elements of main form in v() with the help of getElementsByTagName(). To know whether the checkbox is checked or not

function v(){
var check = document.getElementsByTagName("input");

    for (var i=0; i < check.length; i++) {
        if (check[i].type == 'checkbox') {
            if (check[i].checked == true) {

        x[i]=check[i].value
            }
        }
    }
console.log(x);
}

Programmatically Add CenterX/CenterY Constraints

The ObjectiveC equivalent is:

    myView.translatesAutoresizingMaskIntoConstraints = NO;

    [[myView.centerXAnchor constraintEqualToAnchor:self.view.centerXAnchor] setActive:YES];

    [[myView.centerYAnchor constraintEqualToAnchor:self.view.centerYAnchor] setActive:YES];

Creating object with dynamic keys

In the new ES2015 standard for JavaScript (formerly called ES6), objects can be created with computed keys: Object Initializer spec.

The syntax is:

var obj = {
  [myKey]: value,
}

If applied to the OP's scenario, it would turn into:

stuff = function (thing, callback) {
  var inputs  = $('div.quantity > input').map(function(){
    return {
      [this.attr('name')]: this.attr('value'),
    };
  })

  callback(null, inputs);
}

Note: A transpiler is still required for browser compatiblity.

Using Babel or Google's traceur, it is possible to use this syntax today.

In earlier JavaScript specifications (ES5 and below), the key in an object literal is always interpreted literally, as a string.

To use a "dynamic" key, you have to use bracket notation:

var obj = {};
obj[myKey] = value;

In your case:

stuff = function (thing, callback) {
  var inputs  = $('div.quantity > input').map(function(){
    var key   = this.attr('name')
     ,  value = this.attr('value')
     ,  ret   = {};

     ret[key] = value;
     return ret;
  })

  callback(null, inputs);
}

How to write a JSON file in C#?

Update 2020: It's been 7 years since I wrote this answer. It still seems to be getting a lot of attention. In 2013 Newtonsoft Json.Net was THE answer to this problem. Now it's still a good answer to this problem but it's no longer the the only viable option. To add some up-to-date caveats to this answer:

  • .Net Core now has the spookily similar System.Text.Json serialiser (see below)
  • The days of the JavaScriptSerializer have thankfully passed and this class isn't even in .Net Core. This invalidates a lot of the comparisons ran by Newtonsoft.
  • It's also recently come to my attention, via some vulnerability scanning software we use in work that Json.Net hasn't had an update in some time. Updates in 2020 have dried up and the latest version, 12.0.3, is over a year old.
  • The speed tests quoted below are comparing an older version of Json.Nt (version 6.0 and like I said the latest is 12.0.3) with an outdated .Net Framework serialiser.

Are Json.Net's days numbered? It's still used a LOT and it's still used by MS librarties. So probably not. But this does feel like the beginning of the end for this library that may well of just run it's course.

Update since .Net Core 3.0

A new kid on the block since writing this is System.Text.Json which has been added to .Net Core 3.0. Microsoft makes several claims to how this is, now, better than Newtonsoft. Including that it is faster than Newtonsoft. as below, I'd advise you to test this yourself .

I would recommend Json.Net, see example below:

List<data> _data = new List<data>();
_data.Add(new data()
{
    Id = 1,
    SSN = 2,
    Message = "A Message"
});

string json = JsonConvert.SerializeObject(_data.ToArray());

//write string to file
System.IO.File.WriteAllText(@"D:\path.txt", json);

Or the slightly more efficient version of the above code (doesn't use a string as a buffer):

//open file stream
using (StreamWriter file = File.CreateText(@"D:\path.txt"))
{
     JsonSerializer serializer = new JsonSerializer();
     //serialize object directly into file stream
     serializer.Serialize(file, _data);
}

Documentation: Serialize JSON to a file

Why? Here's a feature comparison between common serialisers as well as benchmark tests .

Below is a graph of performance taken from the linked article:

enter image description here

This separate post, states that:

Json.NET has always been memory efficient, streaming the reading and writing large documents rather than loading them entirely into memory, but I was able to find a couple of key places where object allocations could be reduced...... (now) Json.Net (6.0) allocates 8 times less memory than JavaScriptSerializer

Benchmarks appear to be Json.Net 5, the current version (on writing) is 10. What version of standard .Net serialisers used is not mentioned

These tests are obviously from the developers who maintain the library. I have not verified their claims. If in doubt test them yourself.

How to increment a datetime by one day?

This was a straightforward solution for me:

from datetime import timedelta, datetime

today = datetime.today().strftime("%Y-%m-%d")
tomorrow = datetime.today() + timedelta(1)

List all column except for one in R

You can index and use a negative sign to drop the 3rd column:

data[,-3]

Or you can list only the first 2 columns:

data[,c("c1", "c2")]
data[,1:2]

Don't forget the comma and referencing data frames works like this: data[row,column]

Print a list in reverse order with range()?

Use the 'range' built-in function. The signature is range(start, stop, step). This produces a sequence that yields numbers, starting with start, and ending if stop has been reached, excluding stop.

>>> range(9,-1,-1)
    [9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 0]
>>> range(-2, 6, 2)
    [-2, 0, 2, 4]

In Python 3, this produces a non-list range object, which functions effectively like a read-only list (but uses way less memory, particularly for large ranges).

Is it possible to decrypt MD5 hashes?

MD5 is a hashing algorithm, you can not revert the hash value.

You should add "change password feature", where the user gives another password, calculates the hash and store it as a new password.

ios Upload Image and Text using HTTP POST

Here is a Swift version. Note that if you do not want to send form data it is still important to send the empty form boundary. Flask in particular expects form data followed by file data and will not populate request.files without the first boundary.

  let composedData = NSMutableData()

  // Set content type header
  let BoundaryConstant = "--------------------------3d74a90a3bfb8696"
  let contentType = "multipart/form-data; boundary=\(BoundaryConstant)"
  request.setValue(contentType, forHTTPHeaderField: "Content-Type")

  // Empty form boundary
  composedData.appendData("--\(BoundaryConstant)\r\n".dataUsingEncoding(NSUTF8StringEncoding)!)

  // Build multipart form to send image
  composedData.appendData("--\(BoundaryConstant)\r\n".dataUsingEncoding(NSUTF8StringEncoding)!)
  composedData.appendData("Content-Disposition: form-data; name=\"file\"; filename=\"image.jpg\"\r\n".dataUsingEncoding(NSUTF8StringEncoding)!)
  composedData.appendData("Content-Type: image/jpeg\r\n\r\n".dataUsingEncoding(NSUTF8StringEncoding)!)
  composedData.appendData(rawData!)
  composedData.appendData("\r\n".dataUsingEncoding(NSUTF8StringEncoding)!)
  composedData.appendData("--\(BoundaryConstant)--\r\n".dataUsingEncoding(NSUTF8StringEncoding)!)

  request.HTTPBody = composedData

  // Get content length
  let length = "\(composedData.length)"
  request.setValue(length, forHTTPHeaderField: "Content-Length")

Postgres - Transpose Rows to Columns

Use crosstab() from the tablefunc module.

SELECT * FROM crosstab(
   $$SELECT user_id, user_name, rn, email_address
     FROM  (
        SELECT u.user_id, u.user_name, e.email_address
             , row_number() OVER (PARTITION BY u.user_id
                            ORDER BY e.creation_date DESC NULLS LAST) AS rn
        FROM   usr u
        LEFT   JOIN email_tbl e USING (user_id)
        ) sub
     WHERE  rn < 4
     ORDER  BY user_id
   $$
  , 'VALUES (1),(2),(3)'
   ) AS t (user_id int, user_name text, email1 text, email2 text, email3 text);

I used dollar-quoting for the first parameter, which has no special meaning. It's just convenient if you have to escape single quotes in the query string which is a common case:

Detailed explanation and instructions here:

And in particular, for "extra columns":

The special difficulties here are:

  • The lack of key names.
    -> We substitute with row_number() in a subquery.

  • The varying number of emails.
    -> We limit to a max. of three in the outer SELECT
    and use crosstab() with two parameters, providing a list of possible keys.

Pay attention to NULLS LAST in the ORDER BY.

How to send password securely over HTTP?

If your webhost allows it, or you will need to deal with sensitive data, then use HTTPS, period. (It's often required by the law afaik).

Otherwise if you want to do something over HTTP. I would do something like this.

  1. The server embeds its public key into the login page.
  2. The client populates the login form and clicks submit.
  3. An AJAX request gets the current timestamp from the server.
  4. Client side script concatenates the credentials, the timestamp and a salt (hashed from analog data eg. mouse movements, key press events), encrypts it using the public key.
  5. Submits the resulting hash.
  6. Server decrypts the hash
  7. Checks if the timestamp is recent enough (allows a short 5-10 second window only). Rejects the login if the timestamp is too old.
  8. Stores the hash for 20 seconds. Rejects the same hash for login during this interval.
  9. Authenticates the user.

So this way the password is protected and the same authentication hash cannot be replayed.

About the security of the session token. That's a bit harder. But it's possible to make reusing a stolen session token a bit harder.

  1. The server sets an extra session cookie which contains a random string.
  2. The browser sends back this cookie on the next request.
  3. The server checks the value in the cookie, if it's different then it destroys the session, otherwise all is okay.
  4. The server sets the cookie again with different text.

So if the session token got stolen, and a request is sent up by someone else, then on the original user's next request the session will be destroyed. So if the user actively browsing the site, clicking on links often, then the thief won't go far with the stolen token. This scheme can be fortified by requiring another authentication for the sensitive operations (like account deletion).

EDIT: Please note this doesn't prevent MITM attacks if the attacker sets up their own page with a different public key and proxies requests to the server. To protect against this the public key must be pinned in the browser's local storage or within the app to detect these kind of tricks.

About the implementation: RSA is probably to most known algorithm, but it's quite slow for long keys. I don't know how fast a PHP or Javascript implementation of would be. But probably there are a faster algorithms.

Why does Eclipse complain about @Override on interface methods?

Even after changing the compiler compliance setting to 1.6 or 1.7 from windows tab, then prefernces, then java, then compiler and setting the compiler compliance, I was still having this issue. The idea is that we need to go the the project folder, right click, Java and set compiler compliance to 1.6 or higer. This worked for me.

org.apache.catalina.core.StandardContext startInternal SEVERE: Error listenerStart

SEVERE: Error listenerStart

This boils down to that a ServletContextListener which is registered by either @WebListener annotation on the class, or by a <listener> declaration in web.xml, has thrown an unhandled exception inside the contextInitialized() method. This is usually caused by a developer's mistake (a bug) and needs to be fixed. For example, a NullPointerException.

The full exception should be visible in webapp-specific startup log as well as the IDE console, before the particular line which you've copypasted. If there is none and you still can't figure the cause of the exception by just looking at the code, put the entire contextInitialized() code in a try-catch wherein you log the exception to a reliable output and then interpret and fix it accordingly.

Inner join of DataTables in C#

If you are allowed to use LINQ, take a look at the following example. It creates two DataTables with integer columns, fills them with some records, join them using LINQ query and outputs them to Console.

    DataTable dt1 = new DataTable();
    dt1.Columns.Add("CustID", typeof(int));
    dt1.Columns.Add("ColX", typeof(int));
    dt1.Columns.Add("ColY", typeof(int));

    DataTable dt2 = new DataTable();
    dt2.Columns.Add("CustID", typeof(int));
    dt2.Columns.Add("ColZ", typeof(int));

    for (int i = 1; i <= 5; i++)
    {
        DataRow row = dt1.NewRow();
        row["CustID"] = i;
        row["ColX"] = 10 + i;
        row["ColY"] = 20 + i;
        dt1.Rows.Add(row);

        row = dt2.NewRow();
        row["CustID"] = i;
        row["ColZ"] = 30 + i;
        dt2.Rows.Add(row);
    }

    var results = from table1 in dt1.AsEnumerable()
                 join table2 in dt2.AsEnumerable() on (int)table1["CustID"] equals (int)table2["CustID"]
                 select new
                 {
                     CustID = (int)table1["CustID"],
                     ColX = (int)table1["ColX"],
                     ColY = (int)table1["ColY"],
                     ColZ = (int)table2["ColZ"]
                 };
    foreach (var item in results)
    {
        Console.WriteLine(String.Format("ID = {0}, ColX = {1}, ColY = {2}, ColZ = {3}", item.CustID, item.ColX, item.ColY, item.ColZ));
    }
    Console.ReadLine();

// Output:
// ID = 1, ColX = 11, ColY = 21, ColZ = 31
// ID = 2, ColX = 12, ColY = 22, ColZ = 32
// ID = 3, ColX = 13, ColY = 23, ColZ = 33
// ID = 4, ColX = 14, ColY = 24, ColZ = 34
// ID = 5, ColX = 15, ColY = 25, ColZ = 35

How to delete from a text file, all lines that contain a specific string?

You can use sed to replace lines in place in a file. However, it seems to be much slower than using grep for the inverse into a second file and then moving the second file over the original.

e.g.

sed -i '/pattern/d' filename

or

grep -v "pattern" filename > filename2; mv filename2 filename

The first command takes 3 times longer on my machine anyway.

Can a local variable's memory be accessed outside its scope?

You never throw a C++ exception by accessing invalid memory. You are just giving an example of the general idea of referencing an arbitrary memory location. I could do the same like this:

unsigned int q = 123456;

*(double*)(q) = 1.2;

Here I am simply treating 123456 as the address of a double and write to it. Any number of things could happen:

  1. q might in fact genuinely be a valid address of a double, e.g. double p; q = &p;.
  2. q might point somewhere inside allocated memory and I just overwrite 8 bytes in there.
  3. q points outside allocated memory and the operating system's memory manager sends a segmentation fault signal to my program, causing the runtime to terminate it.
  4. You win the lottery.

The way you set it up it is a bit more reasonable that the returned address points into a valid area of memory, as it will probably just be a little further down the stack, but it is still an invalid location that you cannot access in a deterministic fashion.

Nobody will automatically check the semantic validity of memory addresses like that for you during normal program execution. However, a memory debugger such as valgrind will happily do this, so you should run your program through it and witness the errors.

mysql query result in php variable

There are a couple of mysql functions you need to look into.

  • mysql_query("query string here") : returns a resource
  • mysql_fetch_array(resource obtained above) : fetches a row and return as an array with numerical and associative(with column name as key) indices. Typically, you need to iterate through the results till expression evaluates to false value. Like the below:

    while ($row = mysql_fetch_array($query)){
        print_r $row;
    }

    Consult the manual, the links to which are provided below, they have more options to specify the format in which the array is requested. Like, you could use mysql_fetch_assoc(..) to get the row in an associative array.

Links:

In your case,

$query = "SELECT username,userid FROM user WHERE username = 'admin' ";
$result=mysql_query($query);
if (!$result){
    die("BAD!");
}
if (mysql_num_rows($result)==1){
    $row = mysql_fetch_array($result);
    echo "user Id: " . $row['userid'];
}
else{
    echo "not found!";
}

Change Placeholder Text using jQuery

simply you can use

$("#yourtextboxid").attr("placeholder", "variable");

where, if variable is string then you can use like above, if it is variable replace it with the name like "variable" with out double quotes.

eg: $("#youtextboxid").attr("placeholder", variable); it will work.

Transparent color of Bootstrap-3 Navbar

  1. Go to http://px64.net/
  2. mess around with opacity, add your image or choose color.
  3. copy either html or css(css is easier) the site spits out.
  4. Select your element aka the navbar.

  5. .navbar{ background-image:url(link that the site provides); background-repeat:repeat;

  6. Enjoy.

How to scan a folder in Java?

You can also use the FileFilter interface to filter out what you want. It is best used when you create an anonymous class that implements it:

import java.io.File;
import java.io.FileFilter;

public class ListFiles {
    public File[] findDirectories(File root) {
        return root.listFiles(new FileFilter() {
            public boolean accept(File f) {
                return f.isDirectory();
            }});
    }

    public File[] findFiles(File root) {
        return root.listFiles(new FileFilter() {
            public boolean accept(File f) {
                return f.isFile();
            }});
    }
}

Why is using the JavaScript eval function a bad idea?

This may become more of an issue as the next generation of browsers come out with some flavor of a JavaScript compiler. Code executed via Eval may not perform as well as the rest of your JavaScript against these newer browsers. Someone should do some profiling.

How do I rewrite URLs in a proxy response in NGINX

We should first read the documentation on proxy_pass carefully and fully.

The URI passed to upstream server is determined based on whether "proxy_pass" directive is used with URI or not. Trailing slash in proxy_pass directive means that URI is present and equal to /. Absense of trailing slash means hat URI is absent.

Proxy_pass with URI:

location /some_dir/ {
    proxy_pass http://some_server/;
}

With the above, there's the following proxy:

http:// your_server/some_dir/ some_subdir/some_file ->
http:// some_server/          some_subdir/some_file

Basically, /some_dir/ gets replaced by / to change the request path from /some_dir/some_subdir/some_file to /some_subdir/some_file.

Proxy_pass without URI:

location /some_dir/ {
    proxy_pass http://some_server;
}

With the second (no trailing slash): the proxy goes like this:

http:// your_server /some_dir/some_subdir/some_file ->
http:// some_server /some_dir/some_subdir/some_file

Basically, the full original request path gets passed on without changes.

So, in your case, it seems you should just drop the trailing slash to get what you want.

Caveat

Note that automatic rewrite only works if you don't use variables in proxy_pass. If you use variables, you should do rewrite yourself:

location /some_dir/ {
  rewrite    /some_dir/(.*) /$1 break;
  proxy_pass $upstream_server;
}

There are other cases where rewrite wouldn't work, that's why reading documentation is a must.

Edit

Reading your question again, it seems I may have missed that you just want to edit the html output.

For that, you can use the sub_filter directive. Something like ...

location /admin/ {
    proxy_pass http://localhost:8080/;
    sub_filter "http://your_server/" "http://your_server/admin/";
    sub_filter_once off;
}

Basically, the string you want to replace and the replacement string

`col-xs-*` not working in Bootstrap 4

you could do this, if you want to use the old syntax (or don't want to rewrite every template)

@for $i from 1 through $grid-columns {
  @include media-breakpoint-up(xs) {
    .col-xs-#{$i} {
      @include make-col-ready();
      @include make-col($i);
    }
  }
}

In my Case, i had to accept the Apple Developer License Agreement.

Login to apple developer account and observe the notification message similar to below.

"The Apple Developer Program License Agreement has been updated. In order to access certain membership resources,**** must accept the latest license agreement by June 28, 2016."

Earlier, i was not able to add/edit iCloud Containers to the App ID though i changed/checked Capabilities, Provisioning Profiles, Certificates etc. After agreement to the contract, things started working smoothly.

Hopefully, it would save someone's valuable time.

ECMAScript 6 arrow function that returns an object

Issue:

When you do are doing:

p => {foo: "bar"}

JavaScript interpreter thinks you are opening a multi-statement code block, and in that block, you have to explicitly mention a return statement.

Solution:

If your arrow function expression has a single statement, then you can use the following syntax:

p => ({foo: "bar", attr2: "some value", "attr3": "syntax choices"})

But if you want to have multiple statements then you can use the following syntax:

p => {return {foo: "bar", attr2: "some value", "attr3": "syntax choices"}}

In above example, first set of curly braces opens a multi-statement code block, and the second set of curly braces is for dynamic objects. In multi-statement code block of arrow function, you have to explicitly use return statements

For more details, check Mozilla Docs for JS Arrow Function Expressions

How to use ClassLoader.getResources() correctly?

The Spring Framework has a class which allows to recursively search through the classpath:

PathMatchingResourcePatternResolver resolver = new PathMatchingResourcePatternResolver();
resolver.getResources("classpath*:some/package/name/**/*.xml");

How to execute python file in linux

You have to add a shebang. A shebang is the first line of the file. Its what the system is looking for in order to execute a file.

It should look like that :

#!/usr/bin/env python

or the real path

#!/usr/bin/python

You should also check the file have the right to be execute. chmod +x file.py

As Fabian said, take a look to Wikipedia : Wikipedia - Shebang (en)

Regex for quoted string with escaping quotes

One has to remember that regexps aren't a silver bullet for everything string-y. Some stuff are simpler to do with a cursor and linear, manual, seeking. A CFL would do the trick pretty trivially, but there aren't many CFL implementations (afaik).

List<T> OrderBy Alphabetical Order

You can use this code snippet:

var New1 = EmpList.OrderBy(z => z.Age).ToList();

where New1 is a List<Employee>.

EmpList is variable of a List<Employee>.

z is a variable of Employee type.

Gray out image with CSS?

If you don't mind using a bit of JavaScript, jQuery's fadeTo() works nicely in every browser I've tried.

jQuery(selector).fadeTo(speed, opacity);

'node' is not recognized as an internal or an external command, operable program or batch file while using phonegap/cordova

If you install Node using the windows installer, there is nothing you have to do. It adds path to node and npm.

You can also use Windows setx command for changing system environment variables. No reboot is required. Just logout/login. Or just open a new cmd window, if you want to see the changing there.

setx PATH "%PATH%;C:\Program Files\nodejs"

Copying data from one SQLite database to another

First scenario: DB1.sqlite and DB2.sqlite have the same table(t1), but DB1 is more "up to date" than DB2. If it's small, drop the table from DB2 and recreate it with the data:

> DROP TABLE IF EXISTS db2.t1; CREATE TABLE db2.t1 AS SELECT * FROM db1.t1;

Second scenario: If it's a large table, you may be better off with an INSERT if not exists type solution. If you have a Unique Key column it's more straight forward, otherwise you'd need to use a combination of fields (maybe every field) and at some point it's still faster to just drop and re-create the table; it's always more straight forward (less thinking required).

THE SETUP: open SQLite without a DB which creates a temporary in memory main database, then attach DB1.sqlite and DB2.sqlite

> sqlite3
sqlite> ATTACH "DB1.sqlite" AS db1
sqlite> ATTACH "DB2.sqlite" AS db2

and use .databases to see the attached databases and their files.

sqlite> .databases
main:
db1: /db/DB1.sqlite
db2: /db/DB2.sqlite

How to get max value of a column using Entity Framework?

In VB.Net it would be

Dim maxAge As Integer = context.Persons.Max(Function(p) p.Age)

Bash if statement with multiple conditions throws an error

You can get some inspiration by reading an entrypoint.sh script written by the contributors from MySQL that checks whether the specified variables were set.

As the script shows, you can pipe them with -a, e.g.:

if [ -z "$MYSQL_ROOT_PASSWORD" -a -z "$MYSQL_ALLOW_EMPTY_PASSWORD" -a -z "$MYSQL_RANDOM_ROOT_PASSWORD" ]; then
    ...

npm notice created a lockfile as package-lock.json. You should commit this file

It should also be noted that one key detail about package-lock.json is that it cannot be published, and it will be ignored if found in any place other than the top level package. It shares a format with npm-shrinkwrap.json(5), which is essentially the same file, but allows publication. This is not recommended unless deploying a CLI tool or otherwise using the publication process for producing production packages.

If both package-lock.json and npm-shrinkwrap.json are present in the root of a package, package-lock.json will be completely ignored.

SQLite select where empty?

It looks like you can simply do:

SELECT * FROM your_table WHERE some_column IS NULL OR some_column = '';

Test case:

CREATE TABLE your_table (id int, some_column varchar(10));

INSERT INTO your_table VALUES (1, NULL);
INSERT INTO your_table VALUES (2, '');
INSERT INTO your_table VALUES (3, 'test');
INSERT INTO your_table VALUES (4, 'another test');
INSERT INTO your_table VALUES (5, NULL);

Result:

SELECT id FROM your_table WHERE some_column IS NULL OR some_column = '';

id
----------
1
2
5

Bootstrap Modal before form Submit

So if I get it right, on click of a button, you want to open up a modal that lists the values entered by the users followed by submitting it.

For this, you first change your input type="submit" to input type="button" and add data-toggle="modal" data-target="#confirm-submit" so that the modal gets triggered when you click on it:

<input type="button" name="btn" value="Submit" id="submitBtn" data-toggle="modal" data-target="#confirm-submit" class="btn btn-default" />

Next, the modal dialog:

<div class="modal fade" id="confirm-submit" tabindex="-1" role="dialog" aria-labelledby="myModalLabel" aria-hidden="true">
    <div class="modal-dialog">
        <div class="modal-content">
            <div class="modal-header">
                Confirm Submit
            </div>
            <div class="modal-body">
                Are you sure you want to submit the following details?

                <!-- We display the details entered by the user here -->
                <table class="table">
                    <tr>
                        <th>Last Name</th>
                        <td id="lname"></td>
                    </tr>
                    <tr>
                        <th>First Name</th>
                        <td id="fname"></td>
                    </tr>
                </table>

            </div>

            <div class="modal-footer">
                <button type="button" class="btn btn-default" data-dismiss="modal">Cancel</button>
                <a href="#" id="submit" class="btn btn-success success">Submit</a>
            </div>
        </div>
    </div>
</div>

Lastly, a little bit of jQuery:

$('#submitBtn').click(function() {
     /* when the button in the form, display the entered values in the modal */
     $('#lname').text($('#lastname').val());
     $('#fname').text($('#firstname').val());
});

$('#submit').click(function(){
     /* when the submit button in the modal is clicked, submit the form */
    alert('submitting');
    $('#formfield').submit();
});

You haven't specified what the function validateForm() does, but based on this you should restrict your form from being submitted. Or you can run that function on the form's button #submitBtn click and then load the modal after the validations have been checked.

Rotate camera in Three.js with mouse

This might serve as a good starting point for moving/rotating/zooming a camera with mouse/trackpad (in typescript):

class CameraControl {
    zoomMode: boolean = false
    press: boolean = false
    sensitivity: number = 0.02

    constructor(renderer: Three.Renderer, public camera: Three.PerspectiveCamera, updateCallback:() => void){
        renderer.domElement.addEventListener('mousemove', event => {
            if(!this.press){ return }

            if(event.button == 0){
                camera.position.y -= event.movementY * this.sensitivity
                camera.position.x -= event.movementX * this.sensitivity
            } else if(event.button == 2){
                camera.quaternion.y -= event.movementX * this.sensitivity/10
                camera.quaternion.x -= event.movementY * this.sensitivity/10
            }

            updateCallback()
        })

        renderer.domElement.addEventListener('mousedown', () => { this.press = true })
        renderer.domElement.addEventListener('mouseup', () => { this.press = false })
        renderer.domElement.addEventListener('mouseleave', () => { this.press = false })

        document.addEventListener('keydown', event => {
            if(event.key == 'Shift'){
                this.zoomMode = true
            }
        })

        document.addEventListener('keyup', event => {
            if(event.key == 'Shift'){
                this.zoomMode = false
            }
        })

        renderer.domElement.addEventListener('mousewheel', event => {
            if(this.zoomMode){
                camera.fov += event.wheelDelta * this.sensitivity
                camera.updateProjectionMatrix()
            } else {
                camera.position.z += event.wheelDelta * this.sensitivity
            }

            updateCallback()
        })
    }
}

drop it in like:

this.cameraControl = new CameraControl(renderer, camera, () => {
    // you might want to rerender on camera update if you are not rerendering all the time
    window.requestAnimationFrame(() => renderer.render(scene, camera))
})

Controls:

  • move while [holding mouse left / single finger on trackpad] to move camera in x/y plane
  • move [mouse wheel / two fingers on trackpad] to move up/down in z-direction
  • hold shift + [mouse wheel / two fingers on trackpad] to zoom in/out via increasing/decreasing field-of-view
  • move while holding [mouse right / two fingers on trackpad] to rotate the camera (quaternion)

Additionally:

If you want to kinda zoom by changing the 'distance' (along yz) instead of changing field-of-view you can bump up/down camera's position y and z while keeping the ratio of position's y and z unchanged like:

// in mousewheel event listener in zoom mode
const ratio = camera.position.y / camera.position.z
camera.position.y += (event.wheelDelta * this.sensitivity * ratio)
camera.position.z += (event.wheelDelta * this.sensitivity)

What is an OS kernel ? How does it differ from an operating system?

The kernel might be the operating system or it might be a part of the operating system. In Linux, the kernel is loaded and executed first. Then it starts up other bits of the OS (like init) to make the system useful.

This is especially true in a micro-kernel environment. The kernel has minimal functionality. Everything else, like file systems and TCP/IP, run as a user process.

Finding Android SDK on Mac and adding to PATH

For Visual Studio for Mac users (e.g. who installed Android SDK together with VS):

  • open Visual Studio for Mac
  • select from menu: Tools -> SDK Manager -> Select 3rd tab: 'Localizations' in dialog

You can find JDK, Android NDK and Android SDK localizations there (if installed and selected). If no Android SDK path found, you may try to find it using Android Studio (if it is installed)

How to do a https request with bad certificate?

Security note: Disabling security checks is dangerous and should be avoided

You can disable security checks globally for all requests of the default client:

package main

import (
    "fmt"
    "net/http"
    "crypto/tls"
)

func main() {
    http.DefaultTransport.(*http.Transport).TLSClientConfig = &tls.Config{InsecureSkipVerify: true}
    _, err := http.Get("https://golang.org/")
    if err != nil {
        fmt.Println(err)
    }
}

You can disable security check for a client:

package main

import (
    "fmt"
    "net/http"
    "crypto/tls"
)

func main() {
    tr := &http.Transport{
        TLSClientConfig: &tls.Config{InsecureSkipVerify: true},
    }
    client := &http.Client{Transport: tr}
    _, err := client.Get("https://golang.org/")
    if err != nil {
        fmt.Println(err)
    }
}

Returning pointer from a function

To my knowledge the use of the keyword new, does relatively the same thing as malloc(sizeof identifier). The code below demonstrates how to use the keyword new.

    void main(void){
        int* test;
        test = tester();
        printf("%d",*test);
        system("pause");
    return;
}
    int* tester(void){
        int *retMe;
        retMe = new int;//<----Here retMe is getting malloc for integer type
        *retMe = 12;<---- Initializes retMe... Note * dereferences retMe
    return retMe;
}

line breaks in a textarea

My recommendation is to save the data to database with Line breaks instead parsing it with nl2br. You should use nl2br in output not input.

For your question, you can use php or javascript:

PHP:

str_replace('<br />', "\n", $textarea);

jQuery:

$('#myTextArea').val($('#myTextArea').val().replace(@<br />@, "\N"));

Maximum length for MD5 input/output

MD5 processes an arbitrary-length message into a fixed-length output of 128 bits, typically represented as a sequence of 32 hexadecimal digits.

How to configure socket connect timeout

My take:

public static class SocketExtensions
{
    /// <summary>
    /// Connects the specified socket.
    /// </summary>
    /// <param name="socket">The socket.</param>
    /// <param name="endpoint">The IP endpoint.</param>
    /// <param name="timeout">The timeout.</param>
    public static void Connect(this Socket socket, EndPoint endpoint, TimeSpan timeout)
    {
        var result = socket.BeginConnect(endpoint, null, null);

        bool success = result.AsyncWaitHandle.WaitOne(timeout, true);
        if (success)
        {
            socket.EndConnect(result);
        }
        else
        {
            socket.Close();
            throw new SocketException(10060); // Connection timed out.
        }
    }
}

How to use a client certificate to authenticate and authorize in a Web API

Tracing helped me find what the problem was (Thank you Fabian for that suggestion). I found with further testing that I could get the client certificate to work on another server (Windows Server 2012). I was testing this on my development machine (Window 7) so I could debug this process. So by comparing the trace to an IIS Server that worked and one that did not I was able to pinpoint the relevant lines in the trace log. Here is a portion of a log where the client certificate worked. This is the setup right before the send

System.Net Information: 0 : [17444] InitializeSecurityContext(In-Buffers count=2, Out-Buffer length=0, returned code=CredentialsNeeded).
System.Net Information: 0 : [17444] SecureChannel#54718731 - We have user-provided certificates. The server has not specified any issuers, so try all the certificates.
System.Net Information: 0 : [17444] SecureChannel#54718731 - Selected certificate:

Here is what the trace log looked like on the machine where the client certificate failed.

System.Net Information: 0 : [19616] InitializeSecurityContext(In-Buffers count=2, Out-Buffer length=0, returned code=CredentialsNeeded).
System.Net Information: 0 : [19616] SecureChannel#54718731 - We have user-provided certificates. The server has specified 137 issuer(s). Looking for certificates that match any of the issuers.
System.Net Information: 0 : [19616] SecureChannel#54718731 - Left with 0 client certificates to choose from.
System.Net Information: 0 : [19616] Using the cached credential handle.

Focusing on the line that indicated the server specified 137 issuers I found this Q&A that seemed similar to my issue. The solution for me was not the one marked as an answer since my certificate was in the trusted root. The answer is the one under it where you update the registry. I just added the value to the registry key.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecurityProviders\SCHANNEL

Value name: SendTrustedIssuerList Value type: REG_DWORD Value data: 0 (False)

After adding this value to the registry it started to work on my Windows 7 machine. This appears to be a Windows 7 issue.

Can we use JSch for SSH key-based communication?

It is possible. Have a look at JSch.addIdentity(...)

This allows you to use key either as byte array or to read it from file.

import com.jcraft.jsch.Channel;
import com.jcraft.jsch.ChannelSftp;
import com.jcraft.jsch.JSch;
import com.jcraft.jsch.Session;

            int port = 10022;
            String privateKey = ".ssh/id_rsa";

            jsch.addIdentity(privateKey);
            System.out.println("identity added ");

            Session session = jsch.getSession(user, host, port);

How to make multiple divs display in one line but still retain width?

You can float your column divs using float: left; and give them widths.

And to make sure none of your other content gets messed up, you can wrap the floated divs within a parent div and give it some clear float styling.

Hope this helps.

Unique Key constraints for multiple columns in Entity Framework

Recently added a composite key with the uniqueness of 2 columns using the approach that 'chuck' recommended, thank @chuck. Only this approached looked cleaner to me:

public int groupId {get; set;}

[Index("IX_ClientGrouping", 1, IsUnique = true)]
public int ClientId { get; set; }

[Index("IX_ClientGrouping", 2, IsUnique = true)]
public int GroupName { get; set; }

How do I view Android application specific cache?

Git error: src refspec master does not match any error: failed to push some refs

It doesn't recognize that you have a master branch, but I found a way to get around it. I found out that there's nothing special about a master branch, you can just create another branch and call it master branch and that's what I did.

To create a master branch:

git checkout -b master

And you can work off of that.

Pass props to parent component in React.js

The question is how to pass argument from child to parent component. This example is easy to use and tested:

//Child component
class Child extends React.Component {
    render() {
        var handleToUpdate  =   this.props.handleToUpdate;
        return (<div><button onClick={() => handleToUpdate('someVar')}>Push me</button></div>
        )
    }
}

//Parent component
class Parent extends React.Component {
    constructor(props) {
        super(props);
        var handleToUpdate  = this.handleToUpdate.bind(this);
    }

    handleToUpdate(someArg){
        alert('We pass argument from Child to Parent: \n' + someArg);
    }

    render() {
        var handleToUpdate  =   this.handleToUpdate;
        return (<div>
          <Child handleToUpdate = {handleToUpdate.bind(this)} />
        </div>)
    }
}

if(document.querySelector("#demo")){
    ReactDOM.render(
        <Parent />,
        document.querySelector("#demo")
    );
}

What is the max size of localStorage values?

Find the maximum length of a single string that can be stored in localStorage

This snippet will find the maximum length of a String that can be stored in localStorage per domain.

//Clear localStorage
for (var item in localStorage) delete localStorage[item];

window.result = window.result || document.getElementById('result');

result.textContent = 'Test running…';

//Start test
//Defer running so DOM can be updated with "test running" message
setTimeout(function () {

    //Variables
    var low = 0,
        high = 2e9,
        half;

    //Two billion may be a little low as a starting point, so increase if necessary
    while (canStore(high)) high *= 2;

    //Keep refining until low and high are equal
    while (low !== high) {
        half = Math.floor((high - low) / 2 + low);

        //Check if we can't scale down any further
        if (low === half || high === half) {
            console.info(low, high, half);
            //Set low to the maximum possible amount that can be stored
            low = canStore(high) ? high : low;
            high = low;
            break;
        }

        //Check if the maximum storage is no higher than half
        if (storageMaxBetween(low, half)) {
            high = half;
            //The only other possibility is that it's higher than half but not higher than "high"
        } else {
            low = half + 1;
        }

    }

    //Show the result we found!
    result.innerHTML = 'The maximum length of a string that can be stored in localStorage is <strong>' + low + '</strong> characters.';

    //Functions
    function canStore(strLen) {
        try {
            delete localStorage.foo;
            localStorage.foo = Array(strLen + 1).join('A');
            return true;
        } catch (ex) {
            return false;
        }

    function storageMaxBetween(low, high) {
        return canStore(low) && !canStore(high);
    }

<div id='result'>Please enable JavaScript</div>

Note that the length of a string is limited in JavaScript; if you want to view the maximum amount of data that can be stored in localStorage when not limited to a single string, you can use the code in this answer.

Edit: Stack Snippets don't support localStorage, so here is a link to JSFiddle.

Both are shallow copies. CopyTo method is not a deep copy. Check the following code :

public class TestClass1
{
    public string a = "test1";
}

public static void ArrayCopyClone()
{
    TestClass1 tc1 = new TestClass1();
    TestClass1 tc2 = new TestClass1();

    TestClass1[] arrtest1 = { tc1, tc2 };
    TestClass1[] arrtest2 = new TestClass1[arrtest1.Length];
    TestClass1[] arrtest3 = new TestClass1[arrtest1.Length];

    arrtest1.CopyTo(arrtest2, 0);
    arrtest3 = arrtest1.Clone() as TestClass1[];

    Console.WriteLine(arrtest1[0].a);
    Console.WriteLine(arrtest2[0].a);
    Console.WriteLine(arrtest3[0].a);

    arrtest1[0].a = "new";

    Console.WriteLine(arrtest1[0].a);
    Console.WriteLine(arrtest2[0].a);
    Console.WriteLine(arrtest3[0].a);
}

/* Output is
test1
test1
test1
new
new
new */

php: loop through json array

Decode the JSON string using json_decode() and then loop through it using a regular loop:

$arr = json_decode('[{"var1":"9","var2":"16","var3":"16"},{"var1":"8","var2":"15","var3":"15"}]');

foreach($arr as $item) { //foreach element in $arr
    $uses = $item['var1']; //etc
}

scp copy directory to another server with private key auth

Putty doesn't use openssh key files - there is a utility in putty suite to convert them.

edit: it is called puttygen

Creating a left-arrow button (like UINavigationBar's "back" style) on a UIToolbar

Solution WITHOUT using a png. Based on this SO answer: Adding the little arrow to the right side of a cell in an iPhone TableView Cell

Just flipping the UITableViewCell horizontally!

UIButton *btnBack = [[UIButton alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0, 5, 70, 20)];

// Add the disclosure
CGRect frm;
UITableViewCell *disclosure = [[UITableViewCell alloc] init];
disclosure.transform = CGAffineTransformScale(CGAffineTransformIdentity, -1, 1);
frm = self.btnBack.bounds;
disclosure.frame = CGRectMake(frm.origin.x, frm.origin.y, frm.size.width-25, frm.size.height);
disclosure.accessoryType = UITableViewCellAccessoryDisclosureIndicator;
disclosure.userInteractionEnabled = NO;
[self.btnBack addSubview:disclosure];

// Add the label
UILabel *lbl = [[UILabel alloc] init];
frm = CGRectOffset(self.btnBack.bounds, 15, 0);
lbl.frame = frm;
lbl.textAlignment = NSTextAlignmentCenter;
lbl.text = @"BACK";
[self addSubview:lbl];

How to obtain Signing certificate fingerprint (SHA1) for OAuth 2.0 on Android?

I was so confusing first time, but I propose you final working solution for Windows:

1) Open cmd and go to your Java/jdk/bin directory (just press cd .. to go one folder back and cd NAME_FOLDER to go one folder forward), in my case, final folder: C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.8.0_73\bin> enter image description here

2) Now type this command keytool -list -v -keystore C:\Users\YOUR_WINDOWS_USER\.android\debug.keystore -alias androiddebugkey -storepass android -keypass android

As result you have to get something like this: enter image description here

PHP, MySQL error: Column count doesn't match value count at row 1

The number of column parameters in your insert query is 9, but you've only provided 8 values.

INSERT INTO dbname (id, Name, Description, shortDescription, Ingredients, Method, Length, dateAdded, Username) VALUES ('', '%s', '%s', '%s', '%s', '%s', '%s', '%s')

The query should omit the "id" parameter, because it is auto-generated (or should be anyway):

INSERT INTO dbname (Name, Description, shortDescription, Ingredients, Method, Length, dateAdded, Username) VALUES ('', '%s', '%s', '%s', '%s', '%s', '%s', '%s')

How can I run a php without a web server?

When should I use semicolons in SQL Server?

If I read this correctly, it will be a requirement to use semicolons to end TSQL statements. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143729%28v=sql.120%29.aspx

EDIT: I found a plug-in for SSMS 2008R2 that will format your script and add the semicolons. I think it is still in beta though...

EDIT: I found an even better free tool/plugin called ApexSQL... http://www.apexsql.com/

How does the vim "write with sudo" trick work?

I'd like to suggest another approach to the "Oups I forgot to write sudo while opening my file" issue:

Instead of receiving a permission denied, and having to type :w!!, I find it more elegant to have a conditional vim command that does sudo vim if file owner is root.

This is as easy to implement (there might even be more elegant implementations, I'm clearly not a bash-guru):

function vim(){
  OWNER=$(stat -c '%U' $1)
  if [[ "$OWNER" == "root" ]]; then
    sudo /usr/bin/vim $*;
  else
    /usr/bin/vim $*;
  fi
}

And it works really well.

This is a more bash-centered approach than a vim-one so not everybody might like it.

Of course:

  • there are use cases where it will fail (when file owner is not root but requires sudo, but the function can be edited anyway)
  • it doesn't make sense when using vim for reading-only a file (as far as I'm concerned, I use tail or cat for small files)

But I find this brings a much better dev user experience, which is something that IMHO tends to be forgotten when using bash. :-)

CORS: Cannot use wildcard in Access-Control-Allow-Origin when credentials flag is true

If you are using CORS middleware and you want to send withCredential boolean true, you can configure CORS like this:

var cors = require('cors');
app.use(cors({credentials: true, origin: 'http://localhost:3000'}));

How to get post slug from post in WordPress?

You can do this is in many ways like:

1- You can use Wordpress global variable $post :

<?php
global $post;
$post_slug=$post->post_name;
?>

2- Or you can get use:

$slug = get_post_field( 'post_name', get_post() );

3- Or get full url and then use the PHP function parse_url:

$url      = "http://$_SERVER[HTTP_HOST]$_SERVER[REQUEST_URI]";
$url_path = parse_url( $url, PHP_URL_PATH );
$slug = pathinfo( $url_path, PATHINFO_BASENAME );

I hope above methods will help you.

If input value is blank, assign a value of "empty" with Javascript

If you're using pure JS you can simply do it like:

var input = document.getElementById('myInput');

if(input.value.length == 0)
    input.value = "Empty";

Here's a demo: http://jsfiddle.net/nYtm8/

Is mathematics necessary for programming?

I have a maths degree, but I can't remember requiring that maths a single time in my career. It was useful in terms of training my mind for logical thinking, but I've not written any code using fluid dynamics, quantum theory or Markov Chains. (The last is the most likely to come up, I suspect.)

Most line-of-business developers won't need advanced maths most of the time. Sometimes knowing trigonometry can help, and certainly being able to understand enough maths to implement algorithms described mathematically can be important - but beyond that? Nah.

Don't forget that most programmers aren't advancing computer science - they're building applications. I don't need to know advanced engineering to drive a modern car, even though that car has almost certainly been improved through advanced engineering.

pass parameter by link_to ruby on rails

Try:

<%= link_to "Add to cart", {:controller => "car", :action => "add_to_cart", :car => car.id }%>

and then in your controller

@car = Car.find(params[:car])

which, will find in your 'cars' table (as with rails pluralization) in your DB a car with id == to car.id

hope it helps! happy coding

more than a year later, but if you see it or anyone does, i could use the points ;D

java.sql.SQLException: Missing IN or OUT parameter at index:: 1

You must use the column names and then set the values to insert (both ? marks):

//insert 1st row
String inserting = "INSERT INTO employee(emp_name ,emp_address) values(?,?)";
System.out.println("insert " + inserting);//
PreparedStatement ps = con.prepareStatement(inserting);
ps.setString(1, "hans");
ps.setString(2, "germany");
ps.executeUpdate();

Diff files present in two different directories

If you specifically don't want to compare contents of files and only check which one are not present in both of the directories, you can compare lists of files, generated by another command.

diff <(find DIR1 -printf '%P\n' | sort) <(find DIR2 -printf '%P\n' | sort) | grep '^[<>]'

-printf '%P\n' tells find to not prefix output paths with the root directory.

I've also added sort to make sure the order of files will be the same in both calls of find.

The grep at the end removes information about identical input lines.

List all sequences in a Postgres db 8.1 with SQL

This function shows the last_value of each sequence.

It outputs a 2 columns table that says the sequence name plus it's last generated value.

It's the same for the others.

For the smooth fade in you can use fadeIn and fadeOut

Why is this program erroneously rejected by three C++ compilers?

Your compilers are expecting ASCII, but that program is obviously written using EBCDIC.

How does Java deal with multiple conditions inside a single IF statement

How do I change the number of open files limit in Linux?

If some of your services are balking into ulimits, it's sometimes easier to put appropriate commands into service's init-script. For example, when Apache is reporting

[alert] (11)Resource temporarily unavailable: apr_thread_create: unable to create worker thread

Try to put ulimit -s unlimited into /etc/init.d/httpd. This does not require a server reboot.
