Programs & Examples On #Machinist

Machinist is a factory framework for building test objects in Ruby. It's made to be a drop-in replacement for fixtures in Ruby on Rails testing suites.

DOS: find a string, if found then run another script

As the answer is marked correct then it's a Windows Dos prompt script and this will work too:

find "string" status.txt >nul && call "my batch file.bat"

Can IntelliJ IDEA encapsulate all of the functionality of WebStorm and PHPStorm through plugins?

But here's the rub, sometimes you can't or don't want to wait. For example I want to use the new support for RubyMotion which includes RubyMotion project structure support, setup of rake files, setup of configurations that are hooked to iOS Simulator etc.

RubyMine has all of these now, IDEA does not. So I would have to generate a RubyMotion project outside of IDEA, then setup an IDEA project and hook up to that source folder etc and God knows what else.

What JetBrains should do is have a licensing model that would allow me, with the purchase of IDEA to use any of other IDEs, as opposed to just relying on IDEAs plugins.

I would be willing to pay more for that i.e. say 50 bucks more for said flexibility.

The funny thing is, I was originally a RubyMine customer that upgraded to IDEA, because I did want that polyglot setup. Now I'm contemplating paying for the upgrade of RubyMine, just because I need to do RubyMotion now. Also there are other potential areas where this out of sync issue might bite me again . For example torque box workflow / deployment support.

JetBrains has good IDEs but I guess I'm a bit annoyed.

Access nested dictionary items via a list of keys?

You can make use of the eval function in python.

def nested_parse(nest, map_list):
    nestq = "nest['" + "']['".join(map_list) + "']"
    return eval(nestq, {'__builtins__':None}, {'nest':nest})

Explanation

For your example query: maplist = ["b", "v", "y"]

nestq will be "nest['b']['v']['y']" where nest is the nested dictionary.

The eval builtin function executes the given string. However, it is important to be careful about possible vulnerabilities that arise from use of eval function. Discussion can be found here:

  1. https://nedbatchelder.com/blog/201206/eval_really_is_dangerous.html
  2. https://www.journaldev.com/22504/python-eval-function

In the nested_parse() function, I have made sure that no __builtins__ globals are available and only local variable that is available is the nest dictionary.

Angular CLI SASS options

Best could be ng new myApp --style=scss

Then Angular CLI will create any new component with scss for you...

Note that using scss not working in the browser as you probably know.. so we need something to compile it to css, for this reason we can use node-sass, install it like below:

npm install node-sass --save-dev

and you should be good to go!

If you using webpack, read on here:

Command line inside project folder where your existing package.json is: npm install node-sass sass-loader raw-loader --save-dev

In webpack.common.js, search for "rules:" and add this object to the end of the rules array (don't forget to add a comma to the end of the previous object):

{
  test: /\.scss$/,
  exclude: /node_modules/,
  loaders: ['raw-loader', 'sass-loader'] // sass-loader not scss-loader
}

Then in your component:

@Component({
  styleUrls: ['./filename.scss'],
})

If you want global CSS support then on the top level component (likely app.component.ts) remove encapsulation and include the SCSS:

import {ViewEncapsulation} from '@angular/core';

@Component({
  selector: 'app',
  styleUrls: ['./bootstrap.scss'],
  encapsulation: ViewEncapsulation.None,
  template: ``
})
class App {}

from Angular starter here.

How do I capture the output into a variable from an external process in PowerShell?

If you want to redirect the error output as well, you have to do:

$cmdOutput = command 2>&1

Or, if the program name has spaces in it:

$cmdOutput = & "command with spaces" 2>&1

How to open a different activity on recyclerView item onclick

The problem occurs in declaring context, while using Glide for ImageView or While using intent in recyclerview for item onClick. I Found this working for me which helps me to Declare context to use in Glide or Intent or Toast.

public class NoteAdapter extends FirestoreRecyclerAdapter<Note,NoteAdapter.NoteHolder> {

Context context;

public NoteAdapter(@NonNull FirestoreRecyclerOptions<Note> options) {
    super(options);
}

@Override
protected void onBindViewHolder(@NonNull NoteHolder holder, int position, @NonNull Note model) {
    holder.r_tv.setText(model.getTitle());
    Glide.with(CategoryActivity.context).load(model.getImage()).into(holder.r_iv);

    context = holder.itemView.getContext();

    holder.itemView.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() {
        @Override
        public void onClick(View v) {
            Intent i = new Intent(context, SuggestActivity.class);
            context.startActivity(i);
        }
    });

}

@NonNull
@Override
public NoteHolder onCreateViewHolder(@NonNull ViewGroup parent, int viewType) {

    View v = LayoutInflater.from(parent.getContext()).inflate(R.layout.row_category,parent,false);

    return new NoteHolder(v);
}

C pass int array pointer as parameter into a function

In new code assignment should be,

B[0] = 5

In func(B), you are just passing address of the pointer which is pointing to array B. You can do change in func() as B[i] or *(B + i). Where i is the index of the array.

In the first code the declaration says,

int *B[10]

says that B is an array of 10 elements, each element of which is a pointer to a int. That is, B[i] is a int pointer and *B[i] is the integer it points to the first integer of the i-th saved text line.

How to split csv whose columns may contain ,

Use a library like LumenWorks to do your CSV reading. It'll handle fields with quotes in them and will likely overall be more robust than your custom solution by virtue of having been around for a long time.

"echo -n" prints "-n"

bash has a "built-in" command called "echo":

$ type echo
echo is a shell builtin

Additionally, there is an "echo" command that is a proper executable (that is, the shell forks and execs /bin/echo, as opposed to interpreting echo and executing it):

$ ls -l /bin/echo
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 22856 Jul 21  2011 /bin/echo

The behavior of either echo's WRT to \c and -n varies. Your best bet is to use printf, which is available on four different *NIX flavors that I looked at:

$ printf "a line without trailing linefeed"
$ printf "a line with trailing linefeed\n"

Tested this in Firefox, Chrome and Opera. It works.

Right way to convert data.frame to a numeric matrix, when df also contains strings?

I had the same problem and I solved it like this, by taking the original data frame without row names and adding them later

SFIo <- as.matrix(apply(SFI[,-1],2,as.numeric))
row.names(SFIo) <- SFI[,1]

selecting rows with id from another table

Try this (subquery):

SELECT * FROM terms WHERE id IN
   (SELECT term_id FROM terms_relation WHERE taxonomy = "categ")

Or you can try this (JOIN):

SELECT t.* FROM terms AS t
   INNER JOIN terms_relation AS tr
   ON t.id = tr.term_id AND tr.taxonomy = "categ"

If you want to receive all fields from two tables:

SELECT t.id, t.name, t.slug, tr.description, tr.created_at, tr.updated_at
  FROM terms AS t
   INNER JOIN terms_relation AS tr
   ON t.id = tr.term_id AND tr.taxonomy = "categ"

How to read XML using XPath in Java

If you have a xml like below

<e:Envelope
    xmlns:d = "http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"
    xmlns:e = "http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/"
    xmlns:wn0 = "http://systinet.com/xsd/SchemaTypes/"
    xmlns:i = "http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance">
    <e:Header>
        <Friends>
            <friend>
                <Name>Testabc</Name>
                <Age>12121</Age>
                <Phone>Testpqr</Phone>
            </friend>
        </Friends>
    </e:Header>
    <e:Body>
        <n0:ForAnsiHeaderOperResponse xmlns:n0 = "http://systinet.com/wsdl/com/magicsoftware/ibolt/localhost/ForAnsiHeader/ForAnsiHeaderImpl#ForAnsiHeaderOper?KExqYXZhL2xhbmcvU3RyaW5nOylMamF2YS9sYW5nL1N0cmluZzs=">
            <response i:type = "d:string">12--abc--pqr</response>
        </n0:ForAnsiHeaderOperResponse>
    </e:Body>
</e:Envelope>

and wanted to extract the below xml

<e:Header>
   <Friends>
      <friend>
         <Name>Testabc</Name>
         <Age>12121</Age>
         <Phone>Testpqr</Phone>
      </friend>
   </Friends>
</e:Header>

The below code helps to achieve the same

public static void main(String[] args) {

    File fXmlFile = new File("C://Users//abhijitb//Desktop//Test.xml");
    DocumentBuilderFactory dbf = DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance();
    Document document;
    Node result = null;
    try {
        document = dbf.newDocumentBuilder().parse(fXmlFile);
        XPath xPath = XPathFactory.newInstance().newXPath();
        String xpathStr = "//Envelope//Header";
        result = (Node) xPath.evaluate(xpathStr, document, XPathConstants.NODE);
        System.out.println(nodeToString(result));
    } catch (SAXException | IOException | ParserConfigurationException | XPathExpressionException
            | TransformerException e) {
        e.printStackTrace();
    }
}

private static String nodeToString(Node node) throws TransformerException {
    StringWriter buf = new StringWriter();
    Transformer xform = TransformerFactory.newInstance().newTransformer();
    xform.setOutputProperty(OutputKeys.OMIT_XML_DECLARATION, "yes");
    xform.transform(new DOMSource(node), new StreamResult(buf));
    return (buf.toString());
}

Now if you want only the xml like below

<Friends>
   <friend>
      <Name>Testabc</Name>
      <Age>12121</Age>
      <Phone>Testpqr</Phone>
   </friend>
</Friends>

You need to change the

String xpathStr = "//Envelope//Header"; to String xpathStr = "//Envelope//Header/*";

How to pass in password to pg_dump?

Backup over ssh with password using temporary .pgpass credentials and push to S3:

#!/usr/bin/env bash

DB_USER="*******"
SSH_HOST="[email protected]_domain.com"
BUCKET_PATH="bucket_name/backup"

if [ $# -ne 2 ]; then

    echo " <DB-name> = The name of the DB to backup"
    echo " <password> = The DB password, which is also used for GPG encryption of the backup file"
    echo "Example:"
    echo "  my-backup-script.sh my_db my_password"
    exit 1
fi

DATABASE=$1
PASSWORD=$2

echo "set remote PG password .."
echo "$DB_HOST:5432:$DATABASE:$DB_USER:$PASSWORD" | ssh "$SSH_HOST" "cat > ~/.pgpass; chmod 0600 ~/.pgpass"
echo "backup over SSH and gzip the backup .."
ssh "$SSH_HOST" "pg_dump -U $DB_USER -h $DB_HOST -C --column-inserts $DATABASE" | gzip > ./tmp.gz
echo "unset remote PG password .."
echo "*********" | ssh "$SSH_HOST" "cat > ~/.pgpass"
echo "encrypt the backup .."
gpg --batch --passphrase "$PASSWORD" --cipher-algo AES256 --compression-algo BZIP2 -co "$DATABASE.sql.gz.gpg" ./tmp.gz

# Backing up to AWS obviously requires having your credentials to be set locally
# EC2 instances can use instance permissions to push files to S3
DATETIME=`date "+%Y%m%d-%H%M%S"`
aws s3 cp ./"$DATABASE.sql.gz.gpg" s3://"$BUCKET_PATH"/"$DATABASE"/db/"$DATETIME".sql.gz.gpg
# s3 is cheap, so don't worry about a little temporary duplication here
# "latest" is always good to have because it makes it easier for dev-ops to use
aws s3 cp ./"$DATABASE.sql.gz.gpg" s3://"$BUCKET_PATH"/"$DATABASE"/db/latest.sql.gz.gpg

echo "local clean-up .."
rm ./tmp.gz
rm "$DATABASE.sql.gz.gpg"

echo "-----------------------"
echo "To decrypt and extract:"
echo "-----------------------"
echo "gpg -d ./$DATABASE.sql.gz.gpg | gunzip > tmp.sql"
echo

Just substitute the first couple of config lines with whatever you need - obviously. For those not interested in the S3 backup part, take it out - obviously.

This script deletes the credentials in .pgpass afterward because in some environments, the default SSH user can sudo without a password, for example an EC2 instance with the ubuntu user, so using .pgpass with a different host account in order to secure those credential, might be pointless.

How to check if array is not empty?

I can't comment yet, but it should be mentioned that if you use numpy array with more than one element this will fail:

if l:
    print "list has items"

elif not l:
    print "list is empty"

the error will be:

ValueError: The truth value of an array with more than one element is ambiguous. Use a.any() or a.all()

How to make a radio button unchecked by clicking it?

Unfortunately it does not work in Chrome or Edge, but it does work in FireFox:

// re-check it if value is changed to this input
.on("change","input[type='radio']", function(){ $(this).prop("checked",true); });

Where to put default parameter value in C++?

You may do in either (according to standard), but remember, if your code is seeing the declaration without default argument(s) before the definition that contains default argument, then compilation error can come.

For example, if you include header containing function declaration without default argument list, thus compiler will look for that prototype as it is unaware of your default argument values and hence prototype won't match.

If you are putting function with default argument in definition, then include that file but I won't suggest that.

Need a row count after SELECT statement: what's the optimal SQL approach?

There are only two ways to be 100% certain that the COUNT(*) and the actual query will give consistent results:

  • Combined the COUNT(*) with the query, as in your Approach 2. I recommend the form you show in your example, not the correlated subquery form shown in the comment from kogus.
  • Use two queries, as in your Approach 1, after starting a transaction in SNAPSHOT or SERIALIZABLE isolation level.

Using one of those isolation levels is important because any other isolation level allows new rows created by other clients to become visible in your current transaction. Read the MSDN documentation on SET TRANSACTION ISOLATION for more details.

How can I create an object based on an interface file definition in TypeScript?

You can set default values using Class.

Without Class Constructor:

interface IModal {
  content: string;
  form: string;
  href: string;
  isPopup: boolean;
};

class Modal implements IModal {
  content = "";
  form = "";
  href: string; // will not be added to object
  isPopup = true;
}

const myModal = new Modal();
console.log(myModal); // output: {content: "", form: "", isPopup: true}

With Class Constructor

interface IModal {
  content: string;
  form: string;
  href: string;
  isPopup: boolean;
}

class Modal implements IModal {
  constructor() {
    this.content = "";
    this.form = "";
    this.isPopup = true;
  }

  content: string;

  form: string;

  href: string; // not part of constructor so will not be added to object

  isPopup: boolean;
}

const myModal = new Modal();
console.log(myModal); // output: {content: "", form: "", isPopup: true}

What are the dark corners of Vim your mom never told you about?

I often use many windows when I work on a project and sometimes I need to resize them. Here's what I use:

These mappings allow to increase and decrease the size of the current window. It's quite simple but it's fast.

Python syntax for "if a or b or c but not all of them"

This is basically a "some (but not all)" functionality (when contrasted with the any() and all() builtin functions).

This implies that there should be Falses and Trues among the results. Therefore, you can do the following:

some = lambda ii: frozenset(bool(i) for i in ii).issuperset((True, False))

# one way to test this is...
test = lambda iterable: (any(iterable) and (not all(iterable))) # see also http://stackoverflow.com/a/16522290/541412

# Some test cases...
assert(some(()) == False) # all() is true, and any() is false
assert(some((False,)) == False) # any() is false
assert(some((True,)) == False) # any() and all() are true

assert(some((False,False)) == False)
assert(some((True,True)) == False)
assert(some((True,False)) == True)
assert(some((False,True)) == True)

One advantage of this code is that you only need to iterate once through the resulting (booleans) items.

One disadvantage is that all these truth-expressions are always evaluated, and do not do short-circuiting like the or/and operators.

What is the difference between Digest and Basic Authentication?

HTTP Basic Access Authentication

  • STEP 1 : the client makes a request for information, sending a username and password to the server in plain text
  • STEP 2 : the server responds with the desired information or an error

Basic Authentication uses base64 encoding(not encryption) for generating our cryptographic string which contains the information of username and password. HTTP Basic doesn’t need to be implemented over SSL, but if you don’t, it isn’t secure at all. So I’m not even going to entertain the idea of using it without.

Pros:

  • Its simple to implement, so your client developers will have less work to do and take less time to deliver, so developers could be more likely to want to use your API
  • Unlike Digest, you can store the passwords on the server in whatever encryption method you like, such as bcrypt, making the passwords more secure
  • Just one call to the server is needed to get the information, making the client slightly faster than more complex authentication methods might be

Cons:

  • SSL is slower to run than basic HTTP so this causes the clients to be slightly slower
  • If you don’t have control of the clients, and can’t force the server to use SSL, a developer might not use SSL, causing a security risk

In Summary – if you have control of the clients, or can ensure they use SSL, HTTP Basic is a good choice. The slowness of the SSL can be cancelled out by the speed of only making one request

Syntax of basic Authentication

Value = username:password
Encoded Value =  base64(Value)
Authorization Value = Basic <Encoded Value>
//at last Authorization key/value map added to http header as follows
Authorization: <Authorization Value>

HTTP Digest Access Authentication
Digest Access Authentication uses the hashing(i.e digest means cut into small pieces) methodologies to generate the cryptographic result. HTTP Digest access authentication is a more complex form of authentication that works as follows:

  • STEP 1 : a client sends a request to a server
  • STEP 2 : the server responds with a special code (called a i.e. number used only once), another string representing the realm(a hash) and asks the client to authenticate
  • STEP 3 : the client responds with this nonce and an encrypted version of the username, password and realm (a hash)
  • STEP 4 : the server responds with the requested information if the client hash matches their own hash of the username, password and realm, or an error if not

Pros:

  • No usernames or passwords are sent to the server in plaintext, making a non-SSL connection more secure than an HTTP Basic request that isn’t sent over SSL. This means SSL isn’t required, which makes each call slightly faster

Cons:

  • For every call needed, the client must make 2, making the process slightly slower than HTTP Basic
  • HTTP Digest is vulnerable to a man-in-the-middle security attack which basically means it could be hacked
  • HTTP Digest prevents use of the strong password encryption, meaning the passwords stored on the server could be hacked

In Summary, HTTP Digest is inherently vulnerable to at least two attacks, whereas a server using strong encryption for passwords with HTTP Basic over SSL is less likely to share these vulnerabilities.

If you don’t have control over your clients however they could attempt to perform Basic authentication without SSL, which is much less secure than Digest.

RFC 2069 Digest Access Authentication Syntax

Hash1=MD5(username:realm:password)
Hash2=MD5(method:digestURI)
response=MD5(Hash1:nonce:Hash2)

RFC 2617 Digest Access Authentication Syntax

Hash1=MD5(username:realm:password)
Hash2=MD5(method:digestURI)
response=MD5(Hash1:nonce:nonceCount:cnonce:qop:Hash2)
//some additional parameters added

source and example

In Postman looks as follows:

enter image description here

Note:

  • The Basic and Digest schemes are dedicated to the authentication using a username and a secret.
  • The Bearer scheme is dedicated to the authentication using a token.

How to resolve Value cannot be null. Parameter name: source in linq?

When you call a Linq statement like this:

// x = new List<string>();
var count = x.Count(s => s.StartsWith("x"));

You are actually using an extension method in the System.Linq namespace, so what the compiler translates this into is:

var count = Enumerable.Count(x, s => s.StartsWith("x"));

So the error you are getting above is because the first parameter, source (which would be x in the sample above) is null.

Why would Oracle.ManagedDataAccess not work when Oracle.DataAccess does?

I received the same error message. To resolve this I just replaced the Oracle.ManagedDataAccess assembly with the older Oracle.DataAccess assembly. This solution may not work if you require new features found in the new assembly. In my case I have many more higher priority issues then trying to configure the new Oracle assembly.

Is it possible to hide/encode/encrypt php source code and let others have the system?

There are commercial products such as ionCube (which I use), source guardian, and Zen Guard.

There are also postings on the net which claim they can reverse engineer the encoded programs. How reliable they are is questionable, since I have never used them.

Note that most of these solutions require an encoder to be installed on their servers. So you may want to make sure your client is comfortable with that.

unique combinations of values in selected columns in pandas data frame and count

Placing @EdChum's very nice answer into a function count_unique_index. The unique method only works on pandas series, not on data frames. The function below reproduces the behavior of the unique function in R:

unique returns a vector, data frame or array like x but with duplicate elements/rows removed.

And adds a count of the occurrences as requested by the OP.

df1 = pd.DataFrame({'A':['yes','yes','yes','yes','no','no','yes','yes','yes','no'],

Can I invoke an instance method on a Ruby module without including it?

If a method on a module is turned into a module function you can simply call it off of Mods as if it had been declared as

module Mods
  def self.foo
     puts "Mods.foo(self)"
  end
end

The module_function approach below will avoid breaking any classes which include all of Mods.

module Mods
  def foo
    puts "Mods.foo"
  end
end

class Includer
  include Mods
end

Includer.new.foo

Mods.module_eval do
  module_function(:foo)
  public :foo
end

Includer.new.foo # this would break without public :foo above

class Thing
  def bar
    Mods.foo
  end
end

Thing.new.bar

However, I'm curious why a set of unrelated functions are all contained within the same module in the first place?

Edited to show that includes still work if public :foo is called after module_function :foo

How to use requirements.txt to install all dependencies in a python project

If you are using Linux OS:

  1. Remove matplotlib==1.3.1 from requirements.txt
  2. Try to install with sudo apt-get install python-matplotlib
  3. Run pip install -r requirements.txt (Python 2), or pip3 install -r requirements.txt (Python 3)
  4. pip freeze > requirements.txt

If you are using Windows OS:

  1. python -m pip install -U pip setuptools
  2. python -m pip install matplotlib

REST / SOAP endpoints for a WCF service

You can expose the service in two different endpoints. the SOAP one can use the binding that support SOAP e.g. basicHttpBinding, the RESTful one can use the webHttpBinding. I assume your REST service will be in JSON, in that case, you need to configure the two endpoints with the following behaviour configuration

<endpointBehaviors>
  <behavior name="jsonBehavior">
    <enableWebScript/>
  </behavior>
</endpointBehaviors>

An example of endpoint configuration in your scenario is

<services>
  <service name="TestService">
    <endpoint address="soap" binding="basicHttpBinding" contract="ITestService"/>
    <endpoint address="json" binding="webHttpBinding"  behaviorConfiguration="jsonBehavior" contract="ITestService"/>
  </service>
</services>

so, the service will be available at

Apply [WebGet] to the operation contract to make it RESTful. e.g.

public interface ITestService
{
   [OperationContract]
   [WebGet]
   string HelloWorld(string text)
}

Note, if the REST service is not in JSON, parameters of the operations can not contain complex type.

Reply to the post for SOAP and RESTful POX(XML)

For plain old XML as return format, this is an example that would work both for SOAP and XML.

[ServiceContract(Namespace = "http://test")]
public interface ITestService
{
    [OperationContract]
    [WebGet(UriTemplate = "accounts/{id}")]
    Account[] GetAccount(string id);
}

POX behavior for REST Plain Old XML

<behavior name="poxBehavior">
  <webHttp/>
</behavior>

Endpoints

<services>
  <service name="TestService">
    <endpoint address="soap" binding="basicHttpBinding" contract="ITestService"/>
    <endpoint address="xml" binding="webHttpBinding"  behaviorConfiguration="poxBehavior" contract="ITestService"/>
  </service>
</services>

Service will be available at

REST request try it in browser,

http://www.example.com/xml/accounts/A123

SOAP request client endpoint configuration for SOAP service after adding the service reference,

  <client>
    <endpoint address="http://www.example.com/soap" binding="basicHttpBinding"
      contract="ITestService" name="BasicHttpBinding_ITestService" />
  </client>

in C#

TestServiceClient client = new TestServiceClient();
client.GetAccount("A123");

Another way of doing it is to expose two different service contract and each one with specific configuration. This may generate some duplicates at code level, however at the end of the day, you want to make it working.

Find file in directory from command line

I use this script to quickly find files across directories in a project. I have found it works great and takes advantage of Vim's autocomplete by opening up and closing an new buffer for the search. It also smartly completes as much as possible for you so you can usually just type a character or two and open the file across any directory in your project. I started using it specifically because of a Java project and it has saved me a lot of time. You just build the cache once when you start your editing session by typing :FC (directory names). You can also just use . to get the current directory and all subdirectories. After that you just type :FF (or FS to open up a new split) and it will open up a new buffer to select the file you want. After you select the file the temp buffer closes and you are inside the requested file and can start editing. In addition, here is another link on Stack Overflow that may help.

How do I find Waldo with Mathematica?

My guess at a "bulletproof way to do this" (think CIA finding Waldo in any satellite image any time, not just a single image without competing elements, like striped shirts)... I would train a Boltzmann machine on many images of Waldo - all variations of him sitting, standing, occluded, etc.; shirt, hat, camera, and all the works. You don't need a large corpus of Waldos (maybe 3-5 will be enough), but the more the better.

This will assign clouds of probabilities to various elements occurring in whatever the correct arrangement, and then establish (via segmentation) what an average object size is, fragment the source image into cells of objects which most resemble individual people (considering possible occlusions and pose changes), but since Waldo pictures usually include a LOT of people at about the same scale, this should be a very easy task, then feed these segments of the pre-trained Boltzmann machine. It will give you probability of each one being Waldo. Take one with the highest probability.

This is how OCR, ZIP code readers, and strokeless handwriting recognition work today. Basically you know the answer is there, you know more or less what it should look like, and everything else may have common elements, but is definitely "not it", so you don't bother with the "not it"s, you just look of the likelihood of "it" among all possible "it"s you've seen before" (in ZIP codes for example, you'd train BM for just 1s, just 2s, just 3s, etc., then feed each digit to each machine, and pick one that has most confidence). This works a lot better than a single neural network learning features of all numbers.

Using RegEX To Prefix And Append In Notepad++

Use a Macro.

Macro>Start Recording

Use the keyboard to make your changes in a repeatable manner e.g.

home>type "able">end>down arrow>home

Then go back to the menu and click stop recording then run a macro multiple times.

That should do it and no regex based complications!

Unpivot with column name

Your query is very close. You should be able to use the following which includes the subject in the final select list:

select u.name, u.subject, u.marks

) u;

See SQL Fiddle with demo

Another possibility is too many threads. We just ran into this error message when running a test harness against an app that uses a thread pool. We used

watch -n 5 -d "ps -eL <java_pid> | wc -l"

to watch the ongoing count of Linux native threads running within the given Java process ID. After this hit about 1,000 (for us--YMMV), we started getting the error message you mention.

how to show alternate image if source image is not found? (onerror working in IE but not in mozilla)

I think this is very nice and short

<img src="imagenotfound.gif" alt="Image not found" onerror="this.src='imagefound.gif';" />

But, be careful. The user's browser will be stuck in an endless loop if the onerror image itself generates an error.

EDIT To avoid endless loop, remove the onerror from it at once.

<img src="imagenotfound.gif" alt="Image not found" onerror="this.onerror=null;this.src='imagefound.gif';" />

By calling this.onerror=null it will remove the onerror then try to get the alternate image.

NEW I would like to add a jQuery way, if this can help anyone.

<script>
$(document).ready(function()
{
    $(".backup_picture").on("error", function(){
        $(this).attr('src', './images/nopicture.png');
    });
});
</script>

<img class='backup_picture' src='./images/nonexistent_image_file.png' />

You simply need to add class='backup_picture' to any img tag that you want a backup picture to load if it tries to show a bad image.

Getting value of HTML text input

If you want to use the value of the email input somewhere else on the same page, for example to do some sort of validation, you could use JavaScript. First I would assign an "id" attribute to your email textbox:

<input type="text" name="email" id="email"/>

and then I would retrieve the value with JavaScript:

var email = document.getElementById('email').value;

From there, you can do additional processing on the value of 'email'.

HTML email with Javascript

Here's what you CAN do:

You can attach (to the email) an html document that contains javascript.

Then, when the recipient opens the attachment, their web browser will facilitate the dynamic features you've implemented.

How to declare or mark a Java method as deprecated?

since some minor explanations were missing

Use @Deprecated annotation on the method like this

 /**
 * @param basePrice
 *
 * @deprecated reason this method is deprecated <br/>
 *              {will be removed in next version} <br/>
 *              use {@link #setPurchasePrice()} instead like this:
 *
 *
 * <blockquote><pre>
 * getProduct().setPurchasePrice(200)
 * </pre></blockquote>
 *
 */
@Deprecated
public void setBaseprice(int basePrice) {
}

remember to explain:

  1. Why is this method no longer recommended. What problems arise when using it. Provide a link to the discussion on the matter if any. (remember to separate lines for readability <br/>
  2. When it will be removed. (let your users know how much they can still rely on this method if they decide to stick to the old way)
  3. Provide a solution or link to the method you recommend {@link #setPurchasePrice()}

Print newline in PHP in single quotes

I wonder why no one added the alternative of using the function chr():

echo 'Hello World!' . chr(10);

or, more efficient if you're going to repeat it a million times:

define('C_NewLine', chr(10));
...
echo 'Hello World!' . C_NewLine;

This avoids the silly-looking notation of concatenating a single- and double-quoted string.

How to convert a string to character array in c (or) how to extract a single char form string?

In C, there's no (real, distinct type of) strings. Every C "string" is an array of chars, zero terminated.

Therefore, to extract a character c at index i from string your_string, just use

char c = your_string[i];

Index is base 0 (first character is your_string[0], second is your_string[1]...).

Why is Git better than Subversion?

Git is not better than Subversion. But is also not worse. It's different.

The key difference is that it is decentralized. Imagine you are a developer on the road, you develop on your laptop and you want to have source control so that you can go back 3 hours.

With Subversion, you have a Problem: The SVN Repository may be in a location you can't reach (in your company, and you don't have internet at the moment), you cannot commit. If you want to make a copy of your code, you have to literally copy/paste it.

With Git, you do not have this problem. Your local copy is a repository, and you can commit to it and get all benefits of source control. When you regain connectivity to the main repository, you can commit against it.

This looks good at first, but just keep in mind the added complexity to this approach.

Git seems to be the "new, shiny, cool" thing. It's by no means bad (there is a reason Linus wrote it for the Linux Kernel development after all), but I feel that many people jump on the "Distributed Source Control" train just because it's new and is written by Linus Torvalds, without actually knowing why/if it's better.

Subversion has Problems, but so does Git, Mercurial, CVS, TFS or whatever.

Edit: So this answer is now a year old and still generates many upvotes, so I thought I'll add some more explanations. In the last year since writing this, Git has gained a lot of momentum and support, particularly since sites like GitHub really took off. I'm using both Git and Subversion nowadays and I'd like to share some personal insight.

First of all, Git can be really confusing at first when working decentralized. What is a remote? and How to properly set up the initial repository? are two questions that come up at the beginning, especially compared to SVN's simple "svnadmin create", Git's "git init" can take the parameters --bare and --shared which seems to be the "proper" way to set up a centralized repository. There are reasons for this, but it adds complexity. The documentation of the "checkout" command is very confusing to people changing over - the "proper" way seems to be "git clone", while "git checkout" seems to switch branches.

Git REALLY shines when you are decentralized. I have a server at home and a Laptop on the road, and SVN simply doesn't work well here. With SVN, I can't have local source control if I'm not connected to the repository (Yes, I know about SVK or about ways to copy the repo). With Git, that's the default mode anyway. It's an extra command though (git commit commits locally, whereas git push origin master pushes the master branch to the remote named "origin").

As said above: Git adds complexity. Two modes of creating repositories, checkout vs. clone, commit vs. push... You have to know which commands work locally and which work with "the server" (I'm assuming most people still like a central "master-repository").

Also, the tooling is still insufficient, at least on Windows. Yes, there is a Visual Studio AddIn, but I still use git bash with msysgit.

SVN has the advantage that it's MUCH simpler to learn: There is your repository, all changes to towards it, if you know how to create, commit and checkout and you're ready to go and can pickup stuff like branching, update etc. later on.

Git has the advantage that it's MUCH better suited if some developers are not always connected to the master repository. Also, it's much faster than SVN. And from what I hear, branching and merging support is a lot better (which is to be expected, as these are the core reasons it was written).

This also explains why it gains so much buzz on the Internet, as Git is perfectly suited for Open Source projects: Just Fork it, commit your changes to your own Fork, and then ask the original project maintainer to pull your changes. With Git, this just works. Really, try it on Github, it's magic.

What I also see are Git-SVN Bridges: The central repository is a Subversion repo, but developers locally work with Git and the bridge then pushes their changes to SVN.

But even with this lengthy addition, I still stand by my core message: Git is not better or worse, it's just different. If you have the need for "Offline Source Control" and the willingness to spend some extra time learning it, it's fantastic. But if you have a strictly centralized Source Control and/or are struggling to introduce Source Control in the first place because your co-workers are not interested, then the simplicity and excellent tooling (at least on Windows) of SVN shine.

Retrieving Dictionary Value Best Practices

TryGetValue is slightly faster, because FindEntry will only be called once.

How much faster? It depends on the dataset at hand. When you call the Contains method, Dictionary does an internal search to find its index. If it returns true, you need another index search to get the actual value. When you use TryGetValue, it searches only once for the index and if found, it assigns the value to your variable.

FYI: It's not actually catching an error.

It's calling:

public bool TryGetValue(TKey key, out TValue value)
{
    int index = this.FindEntry(key);
    if (index >= 0)
    {
        value = this.entries[index].value;
        return true;
    }
    value = default(TValue);
    return false;
}

ContainsKey is this:

public bool ContainsKey(TKey key)
{
    return (this.FindEntry(key) >= 0);
}

How to create a remote Git repository from a local one?

You need to create a directory on a remote server. Then use "git init" command to set it as a repository. This should be done for each new project you have (each new folder)

Assuming you have already setup and used git using ssh keys, I wrote a small Python script, which when executed from a working directory will set up a remote and initialize the directory as a git repo. Of course, you will have to edit script (only once) to tell it server and Root path for all repositories.

VBA paste range

To literally fix your example you would use this:

Sub Normalize()

    Dim Ticker As Range
    Sheets("Sheet1").Activate
    Set Ticker = Range(Cells(2, 1), Cells(65, 1))
    Ticker.Copy

    Sheets("Sheet2").Select
    Cells(1, 1).PasteSpecial xlPasteAll

End Sub

To Make slight improvments on it would be to get rid of the Select and Activates:

Sub Normalize()
    With Sheets("Sheet1")
        .Range(.Cells(2, 1), .Cells(65, 1)).Copy Sheets("Sheet2").Cells(1, 1)
    End With
End Sub

but using the clipboard takes time and resources so the best way would be to avoid a copy and paste and just set the values equal to what you want.

Sub Normalize()
Dim CopyFrom As Range

Set CopyFrom = Sheets("Sheet1").Range("A2", [A65])
Sheets("Sheet2").Range("A1").Resize(CopyFrom.Rows.Count).Value = CopyFrom.Value

End Sub

To define the CopyFrom you can use anything you want to define the range, You could use Range("A2:A65"), Range("A2",[A65]), Range("A2", "A65") all would be valid entries. also if the A2:A65 Will never change the code could be further simplified to:

Sub Normalize()

Sheets("Sheet2").Range("A1:A65").Value = Sheets("Sheet1").Range("A2:A66").Value

End Sub

I added the Copy from range, and the Resize property to make it slightly more dynamic in case you had other ranges you wanted to use in the future.

What is the best way to check for Internet connectivity using .NET?

You can use NetworkInterface.GetIsNetworkAvailable method which indicates whether any network connection is available.

Try this:

bool connection = NetworkInterface.GetIsNetworkAvailable();
if (connection == true)
 {
     MessageBox.Show("The system is online");
 }
 else {
     MessageBox.Show("The system is offline";
 }

How do I get a HttpServletRequest in my spring beans?

This is kind of Flex/BlazeDS specific, but here's the solution I've come up with. Sorry if answering my own question is a faux pas.

    HttpServletRequest request = flex.messaging.FlexContext.getHttpRequest();

    Cookie[] cookies = request.getCookies();

    for (Cookie c:cookies)
    {
        log.debug(String.format("Cookie: %s, %s, domain: %s",c.getName(), c.getValue(),c.getDomain()));
    }

It works, I get the cookies. My problem was looking to Spring - BlazeDS had it. Spring probably does too, but I still don't know how to get to it.

How to skip the first n rows in sql query

I know it's quite late now to answer the query. But I have a little different solution than the others which I believe has better performance because no comparisons are performed in the SQL query only sorting is done. You can see its considerable performance improvement basically when value of SKIP is LARGE enough.

  1. Best performance but only for SQL Server 2012 and above. Originally from @Majid Basirati's answer which is worth mentioning again.

    DECLARE @Skip INT = 2, @Take INT = 2

    SELECT * FROM TABLE_NAME
    ORDER BY ID ASC
    OFFSET (@Skip) ROWS FETCH NEXT (@Take) ROWS ONLY

  2. Not as Good as the first one but compatible with SQL Server 2005 and above.

    DECLARE @Skip INT = 2, @Take INT = 2

    SELECT * FROM
    (
        SELECT TOP (@Take) * FROM
        (
            SELECT TOP (@Take + @Skip) * FROM TABLE_NAME
            ORDER BY ID ASC
        ) T1
        ORDER BY ID DESC
    ) T2
    ORDER BY ID ASC

Using JSON POST Request

Modern browsers do not currently implement JSONRequest (as far as I know) since it is only a draft right now. I have found someone who has implemented it as a library that you can include in your page: http://devpro.it/JSON/files/JSONRequest-js.html (please note that it has a few dependencies).

Otherwise, you might want to go with another JS library like jQuery or Mootools.

How do I use MySQL through XAMPP?

Changing XAMPP Default Port: If you want to get XAMPP up and running, you should consider changing the port from the default 80 to say 7777.

  • In the XAMPP Control Panel, click on the Apache – Config button which is located next to the ‘Logs’ button.

  • Select ‘Apache (httpd.conf)’ from the drop down. (Notepad should open)

  • Do Ctrl+F to find ’80’ and change line Listen 80 to Listen 7777

  • Find again and change line ServerName localhost:80 to ServerName localhost:7777

  • Save and re-start Apache. It should be running by now.

The only demerit to this technique is, you have to explicitly include the port number in the localhost url. Rather than http://localhost it becomes http://localhost:7777.

Question mark and colon in JavaScript

Be careful with this. A -1 evaluates to true although -1 != true and -1 != false. Trust me, I've seen it happen.

so

evaluates to "true side"

python: after installing anaconda, how to import pandas

You can only import a library which has been installed in your environment.

If you have created a new environment, e.g. to run an older version of Python, maybe you lack 'pandas' package, which is in the 'base' environment of Anaconda by default.

Fix through GUI

To add it to your environment, from the GUI, select your environment, select "All" in the dropdown list, type pandas in the text field, select the pandas package and Apply.

Afterwards, select 'Installed' to verify that the package has been correctly installed.

Get generic type of class at runtime

I dont think you can, Java uses type erasure when compiling so your code is compatible with applications and libraries that were created pre-generics.

From the Oracle Docs:

Type Erasure

Generics were introduced to the Java language to provide tighter type checks at compile time and to support generic programming. To implement generics, the Java compiler applies type erasure to:

Replace all type parameters in generic types with their bounds or Object if the type parameters are unbounded. The produced bytecode, therefore, contains only ordinary classes, interfaces, and methods. Insert type casts if necessary to preserve type safety. Generate bridge methods to preserve polymorphism in extended generic types. Type erasure ensures that no new classes are created for parameterized types; consequently, generics incur no runtime overhead.

_csv.Error: field larger than field limit (131072)

I just had this happen to me on a 'plain' CSV file. Some people might call it an invalid formatted file. No escape characters, no double quotes and delimiter was a semicolon.

A sample line from this file would look like this:

First cell; Second " Cell with one double quote and leading space;'Partially quoted' cell;Last cell

the single quote in the second cell would throw the parser off its rails. What worked was:

csv.reader(inputfile, delimiter=';', doublequote='False', quotechar='', quoting=csv.QUOTE_NONE)

How to get text in QlineEdit when QpushButton is pressed in a string?

The object name is not very important. what you should be focusing at is the variable that stores the lineedit object (le) and your pushbutton object(pb)

QObject(self.pb, SIGNAL("clicked()"), self.button_clicked)

def button_clicked(self):
  self.le.setText("shost")

I think this is what you want. I hope i got your question correctly :)

should use size_t or ssize_t

ssize_t is used for functions whose return value could either be a valid size, or a negative value to indicate an error. It is guaranteed to be able to store values at least in the range [-1, SSIZE_MAX] (SSIZE_MAX is system-dependent).

So you should use size_t whenever you mean to return a size in bytes, and ssize_t whenever you would return either a size in bytes or a (negative) error value.

Get element of JS object with an index

If you want a specific order, then you must use an array, not an object. Objects do not have a defined order.

For example, using an array, you could do this:

var myobj = [{"A":["B"]}, {"B": ["C"]}];
var firstItem = myobj[0];

Then, you can use myobj[0] to get the first object in the array.

Or, depending upon what you're trying to do:

var myobj = [{key: "A", val:["B"]}, {key: "B",  val:["C"]}];
var firstKey = myobj[0].key;   // "A"
var firstValue = myobj[0].val; // "["B"]

This works:

myWindow = window.open('http://www.yahoo.com','myWindow', "width=200, height=200");

One more possibility: if the symptom is that the first invocation works, but subsequent ones do not, you may be using PrimeFaces 3.x with JSF 2.2, as detailed here: No ViewState is sent.

Converting Go struct to JSON

Related issue:

I was having trouble converting struct to JSON, sending it as response from Golang, then, later catch the same in JavaScript via Ajax.

Wasted a lot of time, so posting solution here.

In Go:

// web server

type Foo struct {
    Number int    `json:"number"`
    Title  string `json:"title"`
}

foo_marshalled, err := json.Marshal(Foo{Number: 1, Title: "test"})
fmt.Fprint(w, string(foo_marshalled)) // write response to ResponseWriter (w)

In JavaScript:

// web call & receive in "data", thru Ajax/ other

var Foo = JSON.parse(data);
console.log("number: " + Foo.number);
console.log("title: " + Foo.title);

Passing multiple variables in @RequestBody to a Spring MVC controller using Ajax

For passing multiple object, params, variable and so on. You can do it dynamically using ObjectNode from jackson library as your param. You can do it like this way:

@RequestMapping(value = "/Test", method = RequestMethod.POST)
@ResponseBody
public boolean getTest(@RequestBody ObjectNode objectNode) {
   // And then you can call parameters from objectNode
   String strOne = objectNode.get("str1").asText();
   String strTwo = objectNode.get("str2").asText();

   // When you using ObjectNode, you can pas other data such as:
   // instance object, array list, nested object, etc.
}

I hope this help.

Simple PHP calculator

You also need to put the [== 'add'] math operation into quotes

if($_POST['group1'] == 'add') {
echo $first + $second;
}

complete code schould look like that :

<?php
$first = $_POST['first'];
$second= $_POST['second'];
if($_POST['group1'] == 'add') {
echo $first + $second;
}
else if($_POST['group1'] == 'subtract') {
echo $first - $second;
}
else if($_POST['group1'] == 'times') {
echo $first * $second;
}
else if($_POST['group1'] == 'divide') {
echo $first / $second;
}
?>

What is attr_accessor in Ruby?

The main functionality of attr_accessor over the other ones is the capability of accessing data from other files.
So you usually would have attr_reader or attr_writer but the good news is that Ruby lets you combine these two together with attr_accessor. I think of it as my to go method because it is more well rounded or versatile. Also, peep in mind that in Rails, this is eliminated because it does it for you in the back end. So in other words: you are better off using attr_acessor over the other two because you don't have to worry about being to specific, the accessor covers it all. I know this is more of a general explanation but it helped me as a beginner.

Hope this helped!

Build query string for System.Net.HttpClient get

The RFC 6570 URI Template library I'm developing is capable of performing this operation. All encoding is handled for you in accordance with that RFC. At the time of this writing, a beta release is available and the only reason it's not considered a stable 1.0 release is the documentation doesn't fully meet my expectations (see issues #17, #18, #32, #43).

You could either build a query string alone:

UriTemplate template = new UriTemplate("{?params*}");
var parameters = new Dictionary<string, string>
  {
    { "param1", "value1" },
    { "param2", "value2" },
  };
Uri relativeUri = template.BindByName(parameters);

Or you could build a complete URI:

UriTemplate template = new UriTemplate("path/to/item{?params*}");
var parameters = new Dictionary<string, string>
  {
    { "param1", "value1" },
    { "param2", "value2" },
  };
Uri baseAddress = new Uri("http://www.example.com");
Uri relativeUri = template.BindByName(baseAddress, parameters);

Java: splitting a comma-separated string but ignoring commas in quotes

The simplest approach is not to match delimiters, i.e. commas, with a complex additional logic to match what is actually intended (the data which might be quoted strings), just to exclude false delimiters, but rather match the intended data in the first place.

The pattern consists of two alternatives, a quoted string ("[^"]*" or ".*?") or everything up to the next comma ([^,]+). To support empty cells, we have to allow the unquoted item to be empty and to consume the next comma, if any, and use the \\G anchor:

Pattern p = Pattern.compile("\\G\"(.*?)\",?|([^,]*),?");

The pattern also contains two capturing groups to get either, the quoted string’s content or the plain content.

Then, with Java 9, we can get an array as

String[] a = p.matcher(input).results()
    .map(m -> m.group(m.start(1)<0? 2: 1))
    .toArray(String[]::new);

whereas older Java versions need a loop like

for(Matcher m = p.matcher(input); m.find(); ) {
    String token = m.group(m.start(1)<0? 2: 1);
    System.out.println("found: "+token);
}

Adding the items to a List or an array is left as an excise to the reader.

For Java 8, you can use the results() implementation of this answer, to do it like the Java 9 solution.

For mixed content with embedded strings, like in the question, you can simply use

Pattern p = Pattern.compile("\\G((\"(.*?)\"|[^,])*),?");

But then, the strings are kept in their quoted form.

Initialize static variables in C++ class?

They can't be initialised inside the class, but they can be initialised outside the class, in a source file:

// inside the class
class Thing {
    static string RE_ANY;
    static string RE_ANY_RELUCTANT;
};

// in the source file
string Thing::RE_ANY = "([^\\n]*)";
string Thing::RE_ANY_RELUCTANT = "([^\\n]*?)";

Update

I've just noticed the first line of your question - you don't want to make those functions static, you want to make them const. Making them static means that they are no longer associated with an object (so they can't access any non-static members), and making the data static means it will be shared with all objects of this type. This may well not be what you want. Making them const simply means that they can't modify any members, but can still access them.

How to stop INFO messages displaying on spark console?

Another way of stopping logs completely is:

    import org.apache.log4j.Appender;
    import org.apache.log4j.BasicConfigurator;
    import org.apache.log4j.varia.NullAppender;

    public class SomeClass {

        public static void main(String[] args) {
            Appender nullAppender = new NullAppender();
            BasicConfigurator.configure(nullAppender);

            {...more code here...}

        }
    }

This worked for me. An NullAppender is

An Appender that ignores log events. (https://logging.apache.org/log4j/2.x/log4j-core/apidocs/org/apache/logging/log4j/core/appender/NullAppender.html)

Collections.sort with multiple fields

I'd make a comparator using Guava's ComparisonChain:

public class ReportComparator implements Comparator<Report> {
  public int compare(Report r1, Report r2) {
    return ComparisonChain.start()
        .compare(r1.getReportKey(), r2.getReportKey())
        .compare(r1.getStudentNumber(), r2.getStudentNumber())
        .compare(r1.getSchool(), r2.getSchool())
        .result();
  }
}

Change border color on <select> HTML form

As Diodeus stated, IE doesn't allow anything but the default border for <select> elements. However, I know of two hacks to achieve a similar effect :

  1. Use a DIV that is placed absolutely at the same position as the dropdown and set it's borders. It will appear that the dropdown has a border.

  2. Use a Javascript solution, for instance, the one provided here.

It may however prove to be too much effort, so you should evaluate if you really require the border.

R apply function with multiple parameters

Just pass var2 as an extra argument to one of the apply functions.

mylist <- list(a=1,b=2,c=3)
myfxn <- function(var1,var2){
  var1*var2
}
var2 <- 2

sapply(mylist,myfxn,var2=var2)

This passes the same var2 to every call of myfxn. If instead you want each call of myfxn to get the 1st/2nd/3rd/etc. element of both mylist and var2, then you're in mapply's domain.

SQL Combine Two Columns in Select Statement

SELECT StaffId,(Title+''+FirstName+''+LastName) AS FullName
FROM StaffInformation

Where do you write with in the brackets this will be appear in the one single column. Where do you want a dot into the middle of the Title and First Name write syntax below,

SELECT StaffId,(Title+'.'+FirstName+''+LastName) AS FullName
FROM StaffInformation

These syntax works with MS SQL Server 2008 R2 Express Edition.

How to programmatically round corners and set random background colors

As the question has already been answered. But I have a little tweak

GradientDrawable drawable = (GradientDrawable) ContextCompat.getDrawable(context, R.drawable.YOUR_DRAWABLE).mutate();

you can change corner radius with:

drawable.setCornerRadius(YOUR_VALUE);

Change color with:

drawable.setColor(Color.YOUR_COLOR);

A mutable drawable is guaranteed to not share its state with any other drawable. So if you change radius without using mutate(), you are likely to change others state too. It is best suitable for specific views.

At last don't forget to set the drawable.

this.setBackground(drawable);

Basic Authentication Using JavaScript

Today we use Bearer token more often that Basic Authentication but if you want to have Basic Authentication first to get Bearer token then there is a couple ways:

const request = new XMLHttpRequest();
request.open('GET', url, false, username,password)
request.onreadystatechange = function() {
        // D some business logics here if you receive return
   if(request.readyState === 4 && request.status === 200) {
       console.log(request.responseText);
   }
}
request.send()

Full syntax is here

Second Approach using Ajax:

$.ajax
({
  type: "GET",
  url: "abc.xyz",
  dataType: 'json',
  async: false,
  username: "username",
  password: "password",
  data: '{ "key":"sample" }',
  success: function (){
    alert('Thanks for your up vote!');
  }
});

Hopefully, this provides you a hint where to start API calls with JS. In Frameworks like Angular, React, etc there are more powerful ways to make API call with Basic Authentication or Oauth Authentication. Just explore it.

Remove element by id

It's what the DOM supports. Search that page for "remove" or "delete" and removeChild is the only one that removes a node.

Break statement in javascript array map method

That's not possible using the built-in Array.prototype.map. However, you could use a simple for-loop instead, if you do not intend to map any values:

var hasValueLessThanTen = false;
for (var i = 0; i < myArray.length; i++) {
  if (myArray[i] < 10) {
    hasValueLessThanTen = true;
    break;
  }
}

Or, as suggested by @RobW, use Array.prototype.some to test if there exists at least one element that is less than 10. It will stop looping when some element that matches your function is found:

var hasValueLessThanTen = myArray.some(function (val) {
  return val < 10;
});

What is a stack trace, and how can I use it to debug my application errors?

To understand the name: A stack trace is a a list of Exceptions( or you can say a list of "Cause by"), from the most surface Exception(e.g. Service Layer Exception) to the deepest one (e.g. Database Exception). Just like the reason we call it 'stack' is because stack is First in Last out (FILO), the deepest exception was happened in the very beginning, then a chain of exception was generated a series of consequences, the surface Exception was the last one happened in time, but we see it in the first place.

Key 1:A tricky and important thing here need to be understand is : the deepest cause may not be the "root cause", because if you write some "bad code", it may cause some exception underneath which is deeper than its layer. For example, a bad sql query may cause SQLServerException connection reset in the bottem instead of syndax error, which may just in the middle of the stack.

-> Locate the root cause in the middle is your job. enter image description here

Key 2:Another tricky but important thing is inside each "Cause by" block, the first line was the deepest layer and happen first place for this block. For instance,

Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NullPointerException
        at com.example.myproject.Book.getTitle(Book.java:16)
           at com.example.myproject.Author.getBookTitles(Author.java:25)
               at com.example.myproject.Bootstrap.main(Bootstrap.java:14)

Book.java:16 was called by Auther.java:25 which was called by Bootstrap.java:14, Book.java:16 was the root cause. Here attach a diagram sort the trace stack in chronological order. enter image description here

stale element reference: element is not attached to the page document

This errors have two common causes: The element has been deleted entirely, or the element is no longer attached to the DOM.

If you already checked if it is not your case, you could be facing the same problem as me.

The element in the DOM is not found because your page is not entirely loaded when Selenium is searching for the element. To solve that, you can put an explicit wait condition that tells Selenium to wait until the element is available to be clicked on.

from selenium.webdriver.support import expected_conditions as EC

wait = WebDriverWait(driver, 10)
element = wait.until(EC.element_to_be_clickable((By.ID, 'someid')))

Writing a new line to file in PHP (line feed)

PHP_EOL is a predefined constant in PHP since PHP 4.3.10 and PHP 5.0.2. See the manual posting:

Using this will save you extra coding on cross platform developments.

IE.

$data = 'some data'.PHP_EOL;
$fp = fopen('somefile', 'a');
fwrite($fp, $data);

If you looped through this twice you would see in 'somefile':

Android - drawable with rounded corners at the top only

I tried your code and got a top rounded corner button. I gave the colors as @ffffff and stroke I gave #C0C0C0.

try

  1. Giving android : bottomLeftRadius="0.1dp" instead of 0. if its not working
  2. Check in what drawable and the emulator's resolution. I created a drawable folder under res and using it. (hdpi, mdpi ldpi) the folder you have this XML. this is my output.

How to send POST in angularjs with multiple params?

Client Side

Data needs to be grouped in an object array as payload - Indata:

var Indata = {'product': $scope.product, 'product2': $scope.product2 };

Pass the payload through $http.post as the second argument:

$http.post("http://localhost:53263/api/Products/", Indata).then(function (data, status, headers, config) {
    alert("success");
},function (data, status, headers, config) {
    alert("error");
});

Server Side

Create a Data Transfer Object(DTO) class as such:

public class ExampleRequest {
   public string product {get; set;};
   public string product2 {get; set;};
}

The class below accepts DTO with the same property names which the payload is carrying.

public void Post(ExampleRequest request)
{
    var productRepository = new ProductRepository();
    var newProduct = productRepository.Save(request.product);
}

In above class, request contains 2 properties with values of product and product2

Python Hexadecimal

'ff'

}

The provider is not compatible with the version of Oracle client

I've been looking into this problem further, and you simply need to grab all the appropriate DLL's from the same downloaded version of ODP.Net and put them in the same folder as your Exe file, because ODP.Net is fussy about not mixing version numbers.

I've explained how to do this here: http://splinter.com.au/using-the-new-odpnet-to-access-oracle-from-c Here's the gist of it though:

  • Download ODP.Net
  • Unzip the file
  • Unzip all the JAR's in it
  • Grab these dll's that were just unzipped:
    • oci.dll (renamed from 'oci.dll.dbl')
    • Oracle.DataAccess.dll
    • oraociicus11.dll
    • OraOps11w.dll
    • orannzsbb11.dll
    • oraocci11.dll
    • ociw32.dll (renamed from 'ociw32.dll.dbl')
  • Put all the DLLs in the same folder as your C# Executable

Python exit commands - why so many and when should each be used?

Different Means of Exiting

os._exit():

  • Exit the process without calling the cleanup handlers.

exit(0):

  • a clean exit without any errors / problems.

exit(1):

  • There was some issue / error / problem and that is why the program is exiting.

sys.exit():

  • When the system and python shuts down; it means less memory is being used after the program is run.

quit():

  • Closes the python file.

Summary

Basically they all do the same thing, however, it also depends on what you are doing it for.

I don't think you left anything out and I would recommend getting used to quit() or exit().

You would use sys.exit() and os._exit() mainly if you are using big files or are using python to control terminal.

Otherwise mainly use exit() or quit().

How to sum all column values in multi-dimensional array?

$sumArray = array();

        }
        $sumArray[$id]+=$value;

How to run php files on my computer

How to cache data in a MVC application

Reference the System.Web dll in your model and use System.Web.Caching.Cache

    public string[] GetNames()
    {
      string[] names = Cache["names"] as string[];
      if(names == null) //not in cache
      {
        names = DB.GetNames();
        Cache["names"] = names;
      }
      return names;
    }

A bit simplified but I guess that would work. This is not MVC specific and I have always used this method for caching data.

Maximum execution time in phpMyadmin

What worked for me on WAMP was modifying file: \Wamp64\alias\phpmyadmin.conf, lines:

 php_admin_value max_execution_time 600
 php_admin_value max_input_time 600

I did not have to change the library file.

"id cannot be resolved or is not a field" error?

Look at your import statements at the top. If you are saying import android.R, then there that is a problem. It might not be the only one as these 'R' errors can be tricky, but it would definitely definitely at least part of the problem.

If that doesn't fix it, make sure your eclipse plugin(ADT) and your android SDK are fully up to date, remove the project from the emulator/phone by manually deleting it from the OS, and clean the project (Launch Eclipse->Project->Clean...). Sounds silly to make sure your stuff is fully up to date, but the earlier versions of the ADT and SDK has a lot of annoying bugs related to the R files that have since been cleared up.

Just FYI, the stuff that shows up in the R class is generated from the stuff in your project res (aka resources) folder. The R class allows you to reference a resource (such as an image or a string) without having to do file operations all over the place. It does other stuff too, but that's for another answer. Android OS uses a similar scheme - it has a resources folder and the class android.R is the way to access stuff in the android resources folder. The problem arises when in a single class you are using both your own resources, and standard android resources. Normally you can say import at the top, and then reference a class just using the last bit of the name (for example, import java.util.List allows you to just write List in your class and the compiler knows you mean java.util.List). When you need to use two classes that are named the same thing, as is the case with the auto-generated R class, then you can import one of them and you have to fully qualify the other one whenever you want to mean it. Typically I import the R file for my project, and then just say android.R.whatever when I want an android resource.

Also, to reiterate Andy, don't modify the R file automatically. That's not how it's meant to be used.

How to enable curl in xampp?

You can add any extension (in Wamp and Xampp servers) by removing the semi-colon (;)

GCC: array type has incomplete element type

The compiler needs to know the size of the second dimension in your two dimensional array. For example:

void print_graph(g_node graph_node[], double weight[][5], int nodes);

How can I get a List from some class properties with Java 8 Stream?

You can use map :

List<String> names =
    personList.stream()
              .map(Person::getName)
              .collect(Collectors.toList());

EDIT :

In order to combine the Lists of friend names, you need to use flatMap :

List<String> friendNames =
    personList.stream()
              .flatMap(e->e.getFriends().stream())
              .collect(Collectors.toList());

Pass all variables from one shell script to another?

Fatal Error gave a straightforward possibility: source your second script! if you're worried that this second script may alter some of your precious variables, you can always source it in a subshell:

( . ./test2.sh )

The parentheses will make the source happen in a subshell, so that the parent shell will not see the modifications test2.sh could perform.

There's another possibility that should definitely be referenced here: use set -a.

From the POSIX set reference:

-a: When this option is on, the export attribute shall be set for each variable to which an assignment is performed; see the Base Definitions volume of IEEE Std 1003.1-2001, Section 4.21, Variable Assignment. If the assignment precedes a utility name in a command, the export attribute shall not persist in the current execution environment after the utility completes, with the exception that preceding one of the special built-in utilities causes the export attribute to persist after the built-in has completed. If the assignment does not precede a utility name in the command, or if the assignment is a result of the operation of the getopts or read utilities, the export attribute shall persist until the variable is unset.

From the Bash Manual:

-a: Mark variables and function which are modified or created for export to the environment of subsequent commands.

So in your case:

set -a
TESTVARIABLE=hellohelloheloo
# ...
# Here put all the variables that will be marked for export
# and that will be available from within test2 (and all other commands).
# If test2 modifies the variables, the modifications will never be
# seen in the present script!
set +a

./test2.sh

 # Here, even if test2 modifies TESTVARIABLE, you'll still have
 # TESTVARIABLE=hellohelloheloo

Observe that the specs only specify that with set -a the variable is marked for export. That is:

set -a
a=b
set +a
a=c
bash -c 'echo "$a"'

will echo c and not an empty line nor b (that is, set +a doesn't unmark for export, nor does it “save” the value of the assignment only for the exported environment). This is, of course, the most natural behavior.

Conclusion: using set -a/set +a can be less tedious than exporting manually all the variables. It is superior to sourcing the second script, as it will work for any command, not only the ones written in the same shell language.

SQL: Select columns with NULL values only

Here is the sql 2005 or later version: Replace ADDR_Address with your tablename.

declare @col varchar(255), @cmd varchar(max)

DECLARE getinfo cursor for
SELECT c.name FROM sys.tables t JOIN sys.columns c ON t.Object_ID = c.Object_ID
WHERE t.Name = 'ADDR_Address'

OPEN getinfo

FETCH NEXT FROM getinfo into @col

WHILE @@FETCH_STATUS = 0
BEGIN
    SELECT @cmd = 'IF NOT EXISTS (SELECT top 1 * FROM ADDR_Address WHERE [' + @col + '] IS NOT NULL) BEGIN print ''' + @col + ''' end'
    EXEC(@cmd)

    FETCH NEXT FROM getinfo into @col
END

CLOSE getinfo
DEALLOCATE getinfo

change Oracle user account status from EXPIRE(GRACE) to OPEN

set long 9999999
set lin 400
select DBMS_METADATA.GET_DDL('USER','YOUR_USER_NAME') from dual;

This will output something like this:

SQL> select DBMS_METADATA.GET_DDL('USER','WILIAM') from dual;

DBMS_METADATA.GET_DDL('USER','WILIAM')
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

   CREATE USER "WILIAM" IDENTIFIED BY VALUES 'S:6680C1468F5F3B36B726CE7620F
FD9657F0E0E49AE56AAACE847BA368CEB;120F24A4C2554B4F'
      DEFAULT TABLESPACE "USER"
      TEMPORARY TABLESPACE "TEMP"
      PASSWORD EXPIRE

Just use the first piece of that with alter user instead:

ALTER USER "WILIAM" IDENTIFIED BY VALUES 'S:6680C1468F5F3B36B726CE7620F
FD9657F0E0E49AE56AAACE847BA368CEB;120F24A4C2554B4F';

This will put the account back in to OPEN status without changing the password (as long as you cut and paste correctly the hash value from the output of DBMS_METADATA.GET_DDL) and you don't even need to know what the password is.

How to force a html5 form validation without submitting it via jQuery

This worked form me to display the native HTML 5 error messages with form validation.

How to export a MySQL database to JSON?

It may be asking too much of MySQL to expect it to produce well formed json directly from a query. Instead, consider producing something more convenient, like CSV (using the INTO OUTFILE '/path/to/output.csv' FIELDS TERMINATED BY ',' snippet you already know) and then transforming the results into json in a language with built in support for it, like python or php.

Edit python example, using the fine SQLAlchemy:

class Student(object):
    '''The model, a plain, ol python class'''
    def __init__(self, name, email, enrolled):
        self.name = name
        self.email = email
        self.enrolled = enrolled

    def __repr__(self):
        return "<Student(%r, %r)>" % (self.name, self.email)

    def make_dict(self):
        return {'name': self.name, 'email': self.email}

import sqlalchemy
metadata = sqlalchemy.MetaData()
students_table = sqlalchemy.Table('students', metadata,
        sqlalchemy.Column('id', sqlalchemy.Integer, primary_key=True),
        sqlalchemy.Column('name', sqlalchemy.String(100)),
        sqlalchemy.Column('email', sqlalchemy.String(100)),
        sqlalchemy.Column('enrolled', sqlalchemy.Date)
    )

# connect the database. substitute the needed values.
engine = sqlalchemy.create_engine('mysql://user:pass@host/database')

# if needed, create the table:
metadata.create_all(engine)

# map the model to the table
import sqlalchemy.orm
sqlalchemy.orm.mapper(Student, students_table)

# now you can issue queries against the database using the mapping:
non_students = engine.query(Student).filter_by(enrolled=None)

# and lets make some json out of it:
import json
non_students_dicts = ( student.make_dict() for student in non_students)
students_json = json.dumps(non_students_dicts)

UITableView set to static cells. Is it possible to hide some of the cells programmatically?

Answer in swift:

Add the following method in your TableViewController:

override func tableView(tableView: UITableView, heightForRowAtIndexPath indexPath: NSIndexPath) -> CGFloat {
    return indexPathOfCellYouWantToHide == indexPath ? 0 : super.tableView(tableView, heightForRowAtIndexPath: indexPath)
}

if the tableView tries to draw the cell you wish to hide, then it won't display it because its height will be set to 0pt thanks to the method above, everything else stays unaltered.

Please note that indexPathOfCellYouWantToHide can be changed at anytime :)

How can I tail a log file in Python?

Adapting Ijaz Ahmad Khan's answer to only yield lines when they are completely written (lines end with a newline char) gives a pythonic solution with no external dependencies:

def follow(file) -> Iterator[str]:
    """ Yield each line from a file as they are written. """
    line = ''
    while True:
        tmp = file.readline()
        if tmp is not None:
            line += tmp
            if line.endswith("\n"):
                yield line
                line = ''
        else:
            time.sleep(0.1)

if __name__ == '__main__':
    for line in follow(open("test.txt", 'r')):

Clear all fields in a form upon going back with browser back button

Modern browsers implement something known as back-forward cache (BFCache). When you hit back/forward button the actual page is not reloaded (and the scripts are never re-run).

If you have to do something in case of user hitting back/forward keys - listen for BFCache pageshow and pagehide events:

window.addEventListener("pageshow", () => {
  // update hidden input field
});

See more details for Gecko and WebKit implementations.

How to set corner radius of imageView?

Layer draws out of clip region, you need to set it to mask to bounds:

self.mainImageView.layer.masksToBounds = true

From the docs:

By default, the corner radius does not apply to the image in the layer’s contents property; it applies only to the background color and border of the layer. However, setting the masksToBounds property to true causes the content to be clipped to the rounded corners

Getting a timestamp for today at midnight?

I think that you should use the new PHP DateTime object as it has no issues doing dates beyond the 32 bit restrictions that strtotime() has. Here's an example of how you would get today's date at midnight.

$today = new DateTime();
$today->setTime(0,0);

Or if you're using PHP 5.4 or later you can do it this way:

$today = (new DateTime())->setTime(0,0);

Then you can use the echo $today->format('Y-m-d'); to get the format you want your object output as.

What is the purpose of the var keyword and when should I use it (or omit it)?

Inside a code you if you use a variable without using var, then what happens is the automatically var var_name is placed in the global scope eg:

someFunction() {
    var a = some_value; /*a has local scope and it cannot be accessed when this
    function is not active*/
    b = a; /*here it places "var b" at top of script i.e. gives b global scope or
    uses already defined global variable b */
}

SQL Client for Mac OS X that works with MS SQL Server

My employer produces a simple, proof-of-concept HTML5-based SQL client which can be used against any ODBC data source on the web-browser host machine, through the HTML5 WebDB-to-ODBC Bridge we also produce. These components are free, for Mac, Windows, and more.

Applicable to many of the other answers here -- the Type 1 JDBC-to-ODBC Bridge that most are referring to is the one Sun built in to and bundled with the JVM. JVM/JRE/JDK documentation has always advised against using this built-in except in experimental scenarios, or when no other option exists, because this component was built as a proof-of-concept, and was never intended for production use.

My employer makes an enterprise-grade JDBC-to-ODBC Bridge, available as either a Single-Tier (installs entirely on the client application host) or a Multi-Tier (splits components over the client application host and the ODBC data source host, enabling JDBC client applications in any JVM to use ODBC data sources on Mac, Windows, Linux, etc.). This solution isn't free.

All of the above can be used with the ODBC Drivers for Sybase & Microsoft SQL Server (or other databases) we also produce ...

Service has zero application (non-infrastructure) endpoints

I just ran into this issue and checked all of the above answers to make sure I wasn't missing anything obvious. Well, I had a semi-obvious issue. My casing of my classname in code and the classname I used in the configuration file didn't match.

For example: if the class name is CalculatorService and the configuration file refers to Calculatorservice ... you will get this error.

Eclipse : Failed to connect to remote VM. Connection refused.

Which server are you using?

Like already said:

  1. In your debug configuration you'll have to define the right port of your server (GF:9009 / Tomcat:8000)
  2. You'll have to set the JVM property of the server to debug

For Glassfish:

    Log in to admin-console > Configurations > server-config > JVM-Settings > check DEBUG checkbox > restart server

For Tomcat:

create file debug.bat/.sh (depending on your OS) in %TOMCAT_HOME%/bin directory and write

    set JPDA_ADDRESS=8000
    set JPDA_TRANSPORT=dt_socket
    catalina.bat jpda start

in it.

After you've created this file start server by executing debug.bat/.sh.

Now you should be able to debug remotely in Eclipse after you set the necessary properties in your debug configuration.

Hope this helped! Have Fun!

EDIT

If you're running tomcat in a Win environment as a service you don't have a catalina.bat file in the bin-directory of your tomcat installation.
To set your server into debug-mode please try the following:

  1. Run the Configuration option in Windows Menu or run %catalina_home%/bin/tomcat6w.exe
  2. In Java tab, add this line to Java:

options:-Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_socket,address=8000,server=y,suspend=n

Difference between adjustResize and adjustPan in android?

From the Android Developer Site link

"adjustResize"

The activity's main window is always resized to make room for the soft keyboard on screen.

"adjustPan"

The activity's main window is not resized to make room for the soft keyboard. Rather, the contents of the window are automatically panned so that the current focus is never obscured by the keyboard and users can always see what they are typing. This is generally less desirable than resizing, because the user may need to close the soft keyboard to get at and interact with obscured parts of the window.

according to your comment, use following in your activity manifest

<activity android:windowSoftInputMode="adjustResize"> </activity>
