Programs & Examples On #Irq

An interrupt request is a hardware signal sent to the processor that temporarily stops a running program and allows to handle a hardware event.

Why does C++ code for testing the Collatz conjecture run faster than hand-written assembly?

As a generic answer, not specifically directed at this task: In many cases, you can significantly speed up any program by making improvements at a high level. Like calculating data once instead of multiple times, avoiding unnecessary work completely, using caches in the best way, and so on. These things are much easier to do in a high level language.

Writing assembler code, it is possible to improve on what an optimising compiler does, but it is hard work. And once it's done, your code is much harder to modify, so it is much more difficult to add algorithmic improvements. Sometimes the processor has functionality that you cannot use from a high level language, inline assembly is often useful in these cases and still lets you use a high level language.

In the Euler problems, most of the time you succeed by building something, finding why it is slow, building something better, finding why it is slow, and so on and so on. That is very, very hard using assembler. A better algorithm at half the possible speed will usually beat a worse algorithm at full speed, and getting the full speed in assembler isn't trivial.

Ansible playbook shell output

Perhaps not relevant if you're looking to do this ONLY using ansible. But it's much easier for me to have a function in my .bash_profile and then run _check_machine host1 host2

function _check_machine() {
    echo 'hostname,num_physical_procs,cores_per_procs,memory,Gen,RH Release,bios_hp_power_profile,bios_intel_qpi_link_power_management,bios_hp_power_regulator,bios_idle_power_state,bios_memory_speed,'
    hostlist=$1
    for h in `echo $hostlist | sed 's/ /\n/g'`;
    do
        echo $h | grep -qE '[a-zA-Z]'
        [ $? -ne 0 ] && h=plabb$h
        echo -n $h,
        ssh root@$h 'grep "^physical id" /proc/cpuinfo | sort -u | wc -l; grep "^cpu cores" /proc/cpuinfo |sort -u | awk "{print \$4}"; awk "{print \$2/1024/1024; exit 0}" /proc/meminfo; /usr/sbin/dmidecode | grep "Product Name"; cat /etc/redhat-release; /etc/facter/bios_facts.sh;' | sed 's/Red at Enterprise Linux Server release //g; s/.*=//g; s/\tProduct Name: ProLiant BL460c //g; s/-//g' | sed 's/Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release //g; s/.*=//g; s/\tProduct Name: ProLiant BL460c //g; s/-//g' | tr "\n" ","
         echo ''
    done
}

E.g.

$ _machine_info '10 20 1036'
hostname,num_physical_procs,cores_per_procs,memory,Gen,RH Release,bios_hp_power_profile,bios_intel_qpi_link_power_management,bios_hp_power_regulator,bios_idle_power_state,bios_memory_speed,

Needless to say function won't work for you as it is. You need to update it appropriately.

replacing NA's with 0's in R dataframe

What Tyler Rinker says is correct:

AQ2 <- airquality
AQ2[is.na(AQ2)] <- 0

will do just this.

What you are originally doing is that you are taking from airquality all those rows (cases) that are complete. So, all the cases that do not have any NA's in them, and keep only those.

XPath:: Get following Sibling

You can go for identifying a list of elements with xPath:

//td[text() = ' Color Digest ']/following-sibling::td[1]

This will give you a list of two elements, than you can use the 2nd element as your intended one. For example:

List<WebElement> elements = driver.findElements(By.xpath("//td[text() = ' Color Digest ']/following-sibling::td[1]"))

Now, you can use the 2nd element as your intended element, which is elements.get(1)

Image Processing: Algorithm Improvement for 'Coca-Cola Can' Recognition

Isn't it difficult even for humans to distinguish between a bottle and a can in the second image (provided the transparent region of the bottle is hidden)?

They are almost the same except for a very small region (that is, width at the top of the can is a little small while the wrapper of the bottle is the same width throughout, but a minor change right?)

The first thing that came to my mind was to check for the red top of bottle. But it is still a problem, if there is no top for the bottle, or if it is partially hidden (as mentioned above).

The second thing I thought was about the transparency of bottle. OpenCV has some works on finding transparent objects in an image. Check the below links.

Particularly look at this to see how accurately they detect glass:

See their implementation result:

Enter image description here

They say it is the implementation of the paper "A Geodesic Active Contour Framework for Finding Glass" by K. McHenry and J. Ponce, CVPR 2006.

It might be helpful in your case a little bit, but problem arises again if the bottle is filled.

So I think here, you can search for the transparent body of the bottles first or for a red region connected to two transparent objects laterally which is obviously the bottle. (When working ideally, an image as follows.)

Enter image description here

Now you can remove the yellow region, that is, the label of the bottle and run your algorithm to find the can.

Anyway, this solution also has different problems like in the other solutions.

  1. It works only if your bottle is empty. In that case, you will have to search for the red region between the two black colors (if the Coca Cola liquid is black).
  2. Another problem if transparent part is covered.

But anyway, if there are none of the above problems in the pictures, this seems be to a better way.

Understanding the Linux oom-killer's logs

Sum of total_vm is 847170 and sum of rss is 214726, these two values are counted in 4kB pages, which means when oom-killer was running, you had used 214726*4kB=858904kB physical memory and swap space.

Since your physical memory is 1GB and ~200MB was used for memory mapping, it's reasonable for invoking oom-killer when 858904kB was used.

rss for process 2603 is 181503, which means 181503*4KB=726012 rss, was equal to sum of anon-rss and file-rss.

[11686.043647] Killed process 2603 (flasherav) total-vm:1498536kB, anon-rss:721784kB, file-rss:4228kB

Elegant way to report missing values in a data.frame

Just use sapply

> sapply(airquality, function(x) sum(is.na(x)))
  Ozone Solar.R Wind Temp Month Day
     37       7       0       0       0       0

You could also use apply or colSums on the matrix created by is.na()

> apply(is.na(airquality),2,sum)
  Ozone Solar.R Wind Temp Month Day
     37       7       0       0       0       0
> colSums(is.na(airquality))
  Ozone Solar.R Wind Temp Month Day
     37       7       0       0       0       0

How to see top processes sorted by actual memory usage?

use quick tip using top command in linux/unix

$ top

and then hit Shift+m (i.e. write a capital M).

From man top

SORTING of task window
  For compatibility, this top supports most of the former top sort keys.
  Since this is primarily a service to former top users, these commands do
  not appear on any help screen.
    command   sorted-field                  supported
      A         start time (non-display)      No
      M         %MEM                          Yes
      N         PID                           Yes
      P         %CPU                          Yes
      T         TIME+                         Yes

Or alternatively: hit Shift + f , then choose the display to order by memory usage by hitting key n then press Enter. You will see active process ordered by memory usage

How can I add private key to the distribution certificate?

How can I refresh a page with jQuery?

There are many ways to reload the current pages, but somehow using those approaches you can see page updated but not with few cache values will be there, so overcome that issue or if you wish to make hard requests then use the below code.

    location.reload(true);
    //Here, it will make a hard request or reload the current page and clear the cache as well.

    location.reload(false); OR location.reload();
    //It can be reload the page with cache

Github Push Error: RPC failed; result=22, HTTP code = 413

I had this error (error: RPC failed; result=22, HTTP code = 413) when I tried to push my initial commit to a new BitBucket repository. The error occurred for me because the BitBucket repo had no master branch. If you are using SourceTree you can create a master branch on the origin by pressing the Git Flow button.

React ignores 'for' attribute of the label element

The for attribute is called htmlFor for consistency with the DOM property API. If you're using the development build of React, you should have seen a warning in your console about this.

How to change already compiled .class file without decompile?

when you decompile and change the code you have to go on the root folder of your eclipse project and check your class in bin folder wich is on the same level as src. then open you original jar with zip tool ( 7zip is good for that ) and put the modified class in tha same package inside the jar.

Formatting a float to 2 decimal places

You can pass the format in to the ToString method, e.g.:

myFloatVariable.ToString("0.00"); //2dp Number

myFloatVariable.ToString("n2"); // 2dp Number

myFloatVariable.ToString("c2"); // 2dp currency

Standard Number Format Strings

In Python, how do you convert seconds since epoch to a `datetime` object?

For those that want it ISO 8601 compliant, since the other solutions do not have the T separator nor the time offset (except Meistro's answer):

from datetime import datetime, timezone
result = datetime.fromtimestamp(1463288494, timezone.utc).isoformat('T', 'microseconds')
print(result) # 2016-05-15T05:01:34.000000+00:00

Note, I use fromtimestamp because if I used utcfromtimestamp I would need to chain on .astimezone(...) anyway to get the offset.

If you don't want to go all the way to microseconds you can choose a different unit with the isoformat() method.

git pull error :error: remote ref is at but expected

Unfortunately GIT commands like prune and reset or push didn't work for me. Prune worked once and then the issue returned.

The permanent solution which worked for me is to edit a git file manually. Just go to the project's .git folder and then open the file packed-refs in a text editor like Notepad++. Then navigate to the row with the failing branch and update its guid to the expected one.

If you have a message like:

error: cannot lock ref 'refs/remotes/origin/feature/branch_xxx': is at 425ea23facf96f51f412441f41ad488fc098cf23 but expected 383de86fed394ff1a1aeefc4a522d886adcecd79

then in the file find the row with refs/remotes/origin/feature/branch_xxx. The guid there will be the expected (2nd) one - 383de86fed394ff1a1aeefc4a522d886adcecd79. You need to change it to the real (1st) one - 425ea23facf96f51f412441f41ad488fc098cf23.

Repeat for the other failing branches and you'll be good to proceed. Sometimes after re-fetch I had to repeat for the same branches which i already 'fixed' earlier. On re-fetch GIT updates guids and gives you the latest one.

Anyways the issue isn't a show stopper. The branch list gets updated. This is rather a warning.

How to split a dos path into its components in Python

In Python >=3.4 this has become much simpler. You can now use pathlib.Path.parts to get all the parts of a path.

Example:

>>> from pathlib import Path
>>> Path('C:/path/to/file.txt').parts
('C:\\', 'path', 'to', 'file.txt')
>>> Path(r'C:\path\to\file.txt').parts
('C:\\', 'path', 'to', 'file.txt')

On a Windows install of Python 3 this will assume that you are working with Windows paths, and on *nix it will assume that you are working with posix paths. This is usually what you want, but if it isn't you can use the classes pathlib.PurePosixPath or pathlib.PureWindowsPath as needed:

>>> from pathlib import PurePosixPath, PureWindowsPath
>>> PurePosixPath('/path/to/file.txt').parts
('/', 'path', 'to', 'file.txt')
>>> PureWindowsPath(r'C:\path\to\file.txt').parts
('C:\\', 'path', 'to', 'file.txt')
>>> PureWindowsPath(r'\\host\share\path\to\file.txt').parts
('\\\\host\\share\\', 'path', 'to', 'file.txt')

Edit: There is also a backport to python 2 available: pathlib2

How should I escape strings in JSON?

StringEscapeUtils.escapeJavaScript / StringEscapeUtils.escapeEcmaScript should do the trick too.

Duplicate and rename Xcode project & associated folders

One more thing to try!

When I copied all of my files, opened the project, and renamed it, everything changed to my new project name except for the test target! I got a linker error that said I was missing a file called "myOldProjectname.app". Here's what fixed it:

  1. Click on your project settings and select your test target enter image description here

  2. Click on build settings and search for "test host" enter image description here

  3. Check those 2 file paths. Chances are that those 2 paths are still pointing at your old project name. enter image description here

Hope that helps!

What is the best IDE for PHP?

Are you sure you're looking for an IDE? The features you're describing, along with the impression of being too complicated that you got from e.g. Aptana, suggest that perhaps all you really want is a good editor with syntax highlighting and integration with some common workflow tools. For this, there are tons of options.

I've used jEdit on several platforms successfully, and that alone puts it above most of the rest (many of the IDEs are cross-platform too, but Aptana and anything Eclipse-based is going to be pretty heavy-weight, if full-featured). jEdit has ready-made plugins for everything on your list, and syntax highlighting for a wide range of languages. You can also bring up a shell in the bottom of your window, invoke scripts from within the editor, and so forth. It's not perfect (the UI is better than most Java UIs, but not perfect yet I don't think), but I've had good luck with it, and it'll be a hell of a lot simpler than Aptana/Eclipse.

That said, I do like Aptana quite a bit for web development, it does a lot of the grunt work for you once you're over the learning curve.

File loading by getClass().getResource()

The best way to access files from resource folder inside a jar is it to use the InputStream via getResourceAsStream. If you still need a the resource as a file instance you can copy the resource as a stream into a temporary file (the temp file will be deleted when the JVM exits):

public static File getResourceAsFile(String resourcePath) {
    try {
        InputStream in = ClassLoader.getSystemClassLoader().getResourceAsStream(resourcePath);
        if (in == null) {
            return null;
        }

        File tempFile = File.createTempFile(String.valueOf(in.hashCode()), ".tmp");
        tempFile.deleteOnExit();

        try (FileOutputStream out = new FileOutputStream(tempFile)) {
            //copy stream
            byte[] buffer = new byte[1024];
            int bytesRead;
            while ((bytesRead = in.read(buffer)) != -1) {
                out.write(buffer, 0, bytesRead);
            }
        }
        return tempFile;
    } catch (IOException e) {
        e.printStackTrace();
        return null;
    }
}

Now you can use shortcut key CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+B to indent the code.

When should we implement Serializable interface?

The answer to this question is, perhaps surprisingly, never, or more realistically, only when you are forced to for interoperability with legacy code. This is the recommendation in Effective Java, 3rd Edition by Joshua Bloch:

There is no reason to use Java serialization in any new system you write

Oracle's chief architect, Mark Reinhold, is on record as saying removing the current Java serialization mechanism is a long-term goal.

Why Java serialization is flawed

Java provides as part of the language a serialization scheme you can opt in to, by using the Serializable interface. This scheme however has several intractable flaws and should be treated as a failed experiment by the Java language designers.

  • It fundamentally pretends that one can talk about the serialized form of an object. But there are infinitely many serialization schemes, resulting in infinitely many serialized forms. By imposing one scheme, without any way of changing the scheme, applications can not use a scheme most appropriate for them.
  • It is implemented as an additional means of constructing objects, which bypasses any precondition checks your constructors or factory methods perform. Unless tricky, error prone, and difficult to test extra deserialization code is written, your code probably has a gaping security weakness.
  • Testing interoperability of different versions of the serialized form is very difficult.
  • Handling of immutable objects is troublesome.

What to do instead

Instead, use a serialization scheme that you can explicitly control. Such as Protocol Buffers, JSON, XML, or your own custom scheme.

Get the last non-empty cell in a column in Google Sheets

This works for me. Get last value of the column A in Google sheet:

=index(A:A,max(row(A:A)*(A:A<>"")))

(It also skips blank rows in between if any)

MySQL case sensitive query

MySQL queries are not case-sensitive by default. Following is a simple query that is looking for 'value'. However it will return 'VALUE', 'value', 'VaLuE', etc…

SELECT * FROM `table` WHERE `column` = 'value'

The good news is that if you need to make a case-sensitive query, it is very easy to do using the BINARY operator, which forces a byte by byte comparison:

SELECT * FROM `table` WHERE BINARY `column` = 'value'

How to "fadeOut" & "remove" a div in jQuery?

If you're using it in several different places, you should turn it into a plugin.

jQuery.fn.fadeOutAndRemove = function(speed){
    $(this).fadeOut(speed,function(){
        $(this).remove();
    })
}

And then:

// Somewhere in the program code.
$('div').fadeOutAndRemove('fast');

Travel/Hotel API's?

HotelsCombined has an easy-to-access and useful service to download the data feed files with hotels. Not exactly API, but something you can get, parse and use. Here is how you do it:

  1. Go to http://www.hotelscombined.com/Affiliates.aspx
  2. Register there (no company or bank data is needed)
  3. Open “Data feeds” page
  4. Choose “Standard data feed” -> “Single file” -> “CSV format” (you may get XML as well)

If you are interested in details, you may find the sample Python code to filter CSV file to get hotels for a specific city here:

http://mikhail.io/2012/05/17/api-to-get-the-list-of-hotels/

Update:

Unfortunately, HotelsCombined.com has introduced the new regulations: they've restricted the access to data feeds by default. To get the access, a partner must submit some information on why one needs the data. The HC team will review it and then (maybe) will grant access.

failed to resolve com.android.support:appcompat-v7:22 and com.android.support:recyclerview-v7:21.1.2

It is easier to use "+" sign in the version number. For example

compile 'com.android.support:support-v4:22.0.+'
compile "com.android.support:appcompat-v7:22.0.+"

In this case you won't have to change versions for the same API number

google console error `OR-IEH-01`

How do I implement __getattribute__ without an infinite recursion error?

Python language reference:

In order to avoid infinite recursion in this method, its implementation should always call the base class method with the same name to access any attributes it needs, for example, object.__getattribute__(self, name).

Meaning:

def __getattribute__(self,name):
    ...
        return self.__dict__[name]

You're calling for an attribute called __dict__. Because it's an attribute, __getattribute__ gets called in search for __dict__ which calls __getattribute__ which calls ... yada yada yada

return  object.__getattribute__(self, name)

Using the base classes __getattribute__ helps finding the real attribute.

Resize an Array while keeping current elements in Java?

It is not possible to change the Array Size. But you can copy the element of one array into another array by creating an Array of bigger size.

It is recommended to create Array of double size if Array is full and Reduce Array to halve if Array is one-half full

public class ResizingArrayStack1 {
    private String[] s;
    private int size = 0;
    private int index = 0;

    public void ResizingArrayStack1(int size) {
        this.size = size;
        s = new String[size];
    }

    public void push(String element) {
        if (index == s.length) {
            resize(2 * s.length);
        }
        s[index] = element;
        index++;
    }

    private void resize(int capacity) {
        String[] copy = new String[capacity];
        for (int i = 0; i < s.length; i++) {
            copy[i] = s[i];
            s = copy;
        }
    }

    public static void main(String[] args) {
        ResizingArrayStack1 rs = new ResizingArrayStack1();
        rs.push("a");
        rs.push("b");
        rs.push("c");
        rs.push("d");
    }
}

What is the fastest factorial function in JavaScript?

I believe the following is the most sustainable and efficient piece of code from the comments above. You can use this in your global application js architecture... and, not worry about writing it in multiple namespaces (since its a task which probably doesn't need much augmenting). I've included 2 method names (based on preference) but both can be used as they're just references.

Math.factorial = Math.fact = function(n) {
    if (isNaN(n)||n<0) return undefined;
    var f = 1; while (n > 1) {
        f *= n--;
    } return f;
};

Using multiprocessing.Process with a maximum number of simultaneous processes

I think Semaphore is what you are looking for, it will block the main process after counting down to 0. Sample code:

from multiprocessing import Process
from multiprocessing import Semaphore
import time

def f(name, sema):
    print('process {} starting doing business'.format(name))
    # simulate a time-consuming task by sleeping
    time.sleep(5)
    # `release` will add 1 to `sema`, allowing other
    # processes blocked on it to continue
    sema.release()

if __name__ == '__main__':
    concurrency = 20
    total_task_num = 1000
    sema = Semaphore(concurrency)
    all_processes = []
    for i in range(total_task_num):
        # once 20 processes are running, the following `acquire` call
        # will block the main process since `sema` has been reduced
        # to 0. This loop will continue only after one or more
        # previously created processes complete.
        sema.acquire()
        p = Process(target=f, args=(i, sema))
        all_processes.append(p)
        p.start()

    # inside main process, wait for all processes to finish
    for p in all_processes:
        p.join()

The following code is more structured since it acquires and releases sema in the same function. However, it will consume too much resources if total_task_num is very large:

from multiprocessing import Process
from multiprocessing import Semaphore
import time

def f(name, sema):
    print('process {} starting doing business'.format(name))
    # `sema` is acquired and released in the same
    # block of code here, making code more readable,
    # but may lead to problem.
    sema.acquire()
    time.sleep(5)
    sema.release()

if __name__ == '__main__':
    concurrency = 20
    total_task_num = 1000
    sema = Semaphore(concurrency)
    all_processes = []
    for i in range(total_task_num):
        p = Process(target=f, args=(i, sema))
        all_processes.append(p)
        # the following line won't block after 20 processes
        # have been created and running, instead it will carry
        # on until all 1000 processes are created.
        p.start()

    # inside main process, wait for all processes to finish
    for p in all_processes:
        p.join()

The above code will create total_task_num processes but only concurrency processes will be running while other processes are blocked, consuming precious system resources.

Markdown and including multiple files

I use a includes.txt file with all my files in the right order the I execute pandoc like this:

pandoc -s $(cat includes.txt) --quiet -f markdown -t html5 --css pandoc.css -o index.html

Works like a charm!

GLYPHICONS - bootstrap icon font hex value

The hex values are on the mainpage of http://glyphicons.com/ in the tooltips of the specific icon.

IIS7 folder permissions for web application

Worked for me in 30 seconds, short and sweet:

  1. In IIS Manager (run inetmgr)
  2. Go to ApplicationPool -> Advanced Settings
  3. Set ApplicationPoolIdentity to NetworkService
  4. Go to the file, right click properties, go to security, click edit, click add, enter Network Service (with space, then click 'check names'), and give full control (or just whatever permissions you need)

Errors in pom.xml with dependencies (Missing artifact...)

I know it is an old question. But I hope my answer will help somebody. I had the same issue and I think the problem is that it cannot find those .jar files in your local repository. So what I did is I added the following code to my pom.xml and it worked.

<repositories>
  <repository>
      <id>spring-milestones</id>
      <name>Spring Milestones</name>
      <url>https://repo.spring.io/libs-milestone</url>
      <snapshots>
          <enabled>false</enabled>
      </snapshots>
  </repository>

Where does the @Transactional annotation belong?

Or does it make sense to annotate both "layers"? - doesn't it make sense to annotate both the service layer and the dao layer - if one wants to make sure that DAO method is always called (propagated) from a service layer with propagation "mandatory" in DAO. This would provide some restriction for DAO methods from being called from UI layer (or controllers). Also - when unit testing DAO layer in particular - having DAO annotated will also ensure it is tested for transactional functionality.

AngularJS Multiple ng-app within a page

Only one app is automatically initialized. Others have to manually initialized as follows:

Syntax:

angular.bootstrap(element, [modules]);

AngularJS API

@Nullable annotation usage

Granted, there are definitely different thinking, in my world, I cannot enforce "Never pass a null" because I am dealing with uncontrollable third parties like API callers, database records, former programmers etc... so I am paranoid and defensive in approaches. Since you are on Java8 or later there is a bit cleaner approach than an if block.

public String foo(@Nullable String mayBeNothing) {
   return Optional.ofNullable(mayBeNothing).orElse("Really Nothing");
}

You can also throw some exception in there by swapping .orElse to orElseThrow(() -> new Exception("Dont' send a null")).

If you don't want to use @Nullable, which adds nothing functionally, why not just name the parameter with mayBe... so your intention is clear.

org.springframework.web.client.HttpClientErrorException: 400 Bad Request

This is what worked for me. Issue is earlier I didn't set Content Type(header) when I used exchange method.

MultiValueMap<String, String> map = new LinkedMultiValueMap<String, String>();
map.add("param1", "123");
map.add("param2", "456");
map.add("param3", "789");
map.add("param4", "123");
map.add("param5", "456");

HttpHeaders headers = new HttpHeaders();
headers.setContentType(MediaType.APPLICATION_FORM_URLENCODED);

final HttpEntity<MultiValueMap<String, String>> entity = new HttpEntity<MultiValueMap<String, String>>(map ,
        headers);
JSONObject jsonObject = null;

try {
    RestTemplate restTemplate = new RestTemplate();
    ResponseEntity<String> responseEntity = restTemplate.exchange(
            "https://url", HttpMethod.POST, entity,
            String.class);

    if (responseEntity.getStatusCode() == HttpStatus.CREATED) {
        try {
            jsonObject = new JSONObject(responseEntity.getBody());
        } catch (JSONException e) {
            throw new RuntimeException("JSONException occurred");
        }
    }
  } catch (final HttpClientErrorException httpClientErrorException) {
        throw new ExternalCallBadRequestException();
  } catch (HttpServerErrorException httpServerErrorException) {
        throw new ExternalCallServerErrorException(httpServerErrorException);
  } catch (Exception exception) {
        throw new ExternalCallServerErrorException(exception);
    }

ExternalCallBadRequestException and ExternalCallServerErrorException are the custom exceptions here.

Note: Remember HttpClientErrorException is thrown when a 4xx error is received. So if the request you send is wrong either setting header or sending wrong data, you could receive this exception.

Error checking for NULL in VBScript

From your code, it looks like provider is a variant or some other variable, and not an object.

Is Nothing is for objects only, yet later you say it's a value that should either be NULL or NOT NULL, which would be handled by IsNull.

Try using:

If Not IsNull(provider) Then
    url = url & "&provider=" & provider
End if

Alternately, if that doesn't work, try:

If provider <> "" Then
    url = url & "&provider=" & provider
End if

If else embedding inside html

 <?php } elseif (date("H") > "12" && date("H")<"17") { ?>

Calculating the area under a curve given a set of coordinates, without knowing the function

You can use Simpsons rule or the Trapezium rule to calculate the area under a graph given a table of y-values at a regular interval.

Python script that calculates Simpsons rule:

def integrate(y_vals, h):
    i = 1
    total = y_vals[0] + y_vals[-1]
    for y in y_vals[1:-1]:
        if i % 2 == 0:
            total += 2 * y
        else:
            total += 4 * y
        i += 1
    return total * (h / 3.0)

h is the offset (or gap) between y values, and y_vals is an array of well, y values.

Example (In same file as above function):

y_values = [13, 45.3, 12, 1, 476, 0]
interval = 1.2
area = integrate(y_values, interval)
print("The area is", area)

Entity Framework Core add unique constraint code-first

We can add Unique key index by using fluent api. Below code worked for me

protected override void OnModelCreating(DbModelBuilder modelBuilder)
    {

        modelBuilder.Entity<User>().Property(p => p.Email).HasColumnAnnotation("Index", new IndexAnnotation(new IndexAttribute("IX_EmailIndex") { IsUnique = true }));

    }

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 268435456 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 71 bytes)

I had this problem. I searched the internet, took all advices, changes configurations, but the problem is still there. Finally with the help of the server administrator, he found that the problem lies in MySQL database column definition. one of the columns in the a table was assigned to 'Longtext' which leads to allocate 4,294,967,295 bites of memory. It seems working OK if you don't use MySqli prepare statement, but once you use prepare statement, it tries to allocate that amount of memory. I changed the column type to Mediumtext which needs 16,777,215 bites of memory space. The problem is gone. Hope this help.

Google Map API - Removing Markers

You need to keep an array of the google.maps.Marker objects to hide (or remove or run other operations on them).

In the global scope:

var gmarkers = [];

Then push the markers on that array as you create them:

var marker = new google.maps.Marker({
    position: new google.maps.LatLng(locations[i].latitude, locations[i].longitude),
    title: locations[i].title,
    icon: icon,
    map:map
});

// Push your newly created marker into the array:
gmarkers.push(marker);

Then to remove them:

function removeMarkers(){
    for(i=0; i<gmarkers.length; i++){
        gmarkers[i].setMap(null);
    }
}

working example (toggles the markers)

I don't think so. The API's will provide access to delayed quotes, there is no way that real time data or tick data, will be provided for free.

Git conflict markers

The line (or lines) between the lines beginning <<<<<<< and ====== here:

<<<<<<< HEAD:file.txt
Hello world
=======

... is what you already had locally - you can tell because HEAD points to your current branch or commit. The line (or lines) between the lines beginning ======= and >>>>>>>:

=======
Goodbye
>>>>>>> 77976da35a11db4580b80ae27e8d65caf5208086:file.txt

... is what was introduced by the other (pulled) commit, in this case 77976da35a11. That is the object name (or "hash", "SHA1sum", etc.) of the commit that was merged into HEAD. All objects in git, whether they're commits (version), blobs (files), trees (directories) or tags have such an object name, which identifies them uniquely based on their content.

Answer for people trying to resolve this issue in 2019:

Most answers to this question are outdated by now. I wish there was a way to reinspect old questions and answers every now and then!

The method I found for this question that works with Office 365 and its associated programs can be found here.

How to get UTC value for SYSDATE on Oracle

You can use

SELECT SYS_EXTRACT_UTC(TIMESTAMP '2000-03-28 11:30:00.00 -02:00') FROM DUAL;

You may also need to change your timezone

ALTER SESSION SET TIME_ZONE = 'Europe/Berlin';

Or read it

SELECT SESSIONTIMEZONE, CURRENT_TIMESTAMP FROM dual;

Insert node at a certain position in a linked list C++

I had some problems with the insertion process just like you, so here is the code how I have solved the problem:

void add_by_position(int data, int pos)
  {
        link *node = new link;
        link *linker = head;

        node->data = data;
        for (int i = 0; i < pos; i++){
            linker = linker->next;
        }
        node->next = linker;
        linker = head;
        for (int i = 0; i < pos - 1; i++){
            linker = linker->next;
        }
        linker->next = node;
        boundaries++;
    }

How to display alt text for an image in chrome

Yes it's an issue in webkit and also reported in chromium: http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=773 It's there since 2008... and still not fixed!!

I'm using a piece of javacsript and jQuery to make my way around this.

function showAlt(){$(this).replaceWith(this.alt)};
function addShowAlt(selector){$(selector).error(showAlt).attr("src", $(selector).src)};
addShowAlt("img");

If you only want one some images:

addShowAlt("#myImgID");

How to read lines of a file in Ruby

Ruby does have a method for this:

File.readlines('foo').each do |line|

http://ruby-doc.org/core-1.9.3/IO.html#method-c-readlines

Cannot push to Git repository on Bitbucket

This error also occurs if you forgot adding the private key to ssh-agent. Do this with:

ssh-add ~/.ssh/id_rsa

Copy file remotely with PowerShell

Simply use the administrative shares to copy files between systems. It's much easier this way.

Copy-Item -Path \\serverb\c$\programs\temp\test.txt -Destination \\servera\c$\programs\temp\test.txt;

By using UNC paths instead of local filesystem paths, you help to ensure that your script is executable from any client system with access to those UNC paths. If you use local filesystem paths, then you are cornering yourself into running the script on a specific computer.

This only works when a PowerShell session runs under the user who has rights to both administrative shares.

I suggest to use regular network share on server B with read-only access to everyone and simply call (from Server A):

Copy-Item -Path "\\\ServerB\SharedPathToSourceFile" -Destination "$Env:USERPROFILE" -Force -PassThru -Verbose

Getting the docstring from a function

You can also use inspect.getdoc. It cleans up the __doc__ by normalizing tabs to spaces and left shifting the doc body to remove common leading spaces.

How to do a non-greedy match in grep?

Actualy the .*? only works in perl. I am not sure what the equivalent grep extended regexp syntax would be. Fortunately you can use perl syntax with grep so grep -P would work but grep -E which is same as egrep would not work (it would be greedy).

How to configure SMTP settings in web.config

Set IIS to forward your mail to the remote server. The specifics vary greatly depending on the version of IIS. For IIS 7.5:

  1. Open IIS Manager
  2. Connect to your server if needed
  3. Select the server node; you should see an SMTP option on the right in the ASP.NET section
  4. Double-click the SMTP icon.
  5. Select the "Deliver e-mail to SMTP server" option and enter your server name, credentials, etc.

Set adb vendor keys

In this case what you can do is : Go in developer options on the device Uncheck "USB Debugging" then check it again A confirmation box should then appear DvxWifiScan

Username and password in https url

When you put the username and password in front of the host, this data is not sent that way to the server. It is instead transformed to a request header depending on the authentication schema used. Most of the time this is going to be Basic Auth which I describe below. A similar (but significantly less often used) authentication scheme is Digest Auth which nowadays provides comparable security features.

With Basic Auth, the HTTP request from the question will look something like this:

GET / HTTP/1.1
Host: example.com
Authorization: Basic Zm9vOnBhc3N3b3Jk

The hash like string you see there is created by the browser like this: base64_encode(username + ":" + password).

To outsiders of the HTTPS transfer, this information is hidden (as everything else on the HTTP level). You should take care of logging on the client and all intermediate servers though. The username will normally be shown in server logs, but the password won't. This is not guaranteed though. When you call that URL on the client with e.g. curl, the username and password will be clearly visible on the process list and might turn up in the bash history file.

When you send passwords in a GET request as e.g. http://example.com/login.php?username=me&password=secure the username and password will always turn up in server logs of your webserver, application server, caches, ... unless you specifically configure your servers to not log it. This only applies to servers being able to read the unencrypted http data, like your application server or any middleboxes such as loadbalancers, CDNs, proxies, etc. though.

Basic auth is standardized and implemented by browsers by showing this little username/password popup you might have seen already. When you put the username/password into an HTML form sent via GET or POST, you have to implement all the login/logout logic yourself (which might be an advantage and allows you to more control over the login/logout flow for the added "cost" of having to implement this securely again). But you should never transfer usernames and passwords by GET parameters. If you have to, use POST instead. The prevents the logging of this data by default.

When implementing an authentication mechanism with a user/password entry form and a subsequent cookie-based session as it is commonly used today, you have to make sure that the password is either transported with POST requests or one of the standardized authentication schemes above only.

Concluding I could say, that transfering data that way over HTTPS is likely safe, as long as you take care that the password does not turn up in unexpected places. But that advice applies to every transfer of any password in any way.

How to get an Array with jQuery, multiple <input> with the same name

Concatenating Matrices in R

cbindX from the package gdata combines multiple columns of differing column and row lengths. Check out the page here:

http://hosho.ees.hokudai.ac.jp/~kubo/Rdoc/library/gdata/html/cbindX.html

It takes multiple comma separated matrices and data.frames as input :) You just need to

install.packages("gdata", dependencies=TRUE)

and then

library(gdata)
concat_data <- cbindX(df1, df2, df3) # or cbindX(matrix1, matrix2, matrix3, matrix4)

How to list files inside a folder with SQL Server

You can use xp_dirtree

It takes three parameters:

Path of a Root Directory, Depth up to which you want to get files and folders and the last one is for showing folders only or both folders and files.

EXAMPLE: EXEC xp_dirtree 'C:\', 2, 1

Cygwin Make bash command not found

I faced the same problem too. Look up to the left side, and select (full). (Make), (gcc) and many others will appear. You will be able to chose the search bar to find them easily.

Ruby on Rails 3 Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' on OSX

If you are running MYSQL through XAMPP:

  1. Open XAMPP mysql configuration file (on OSX):

    /Applications/XAMPP/etc/my.cnf

  2. Copy the socket path:

    socket = /Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/var/mysql/mysql.sock

  3. Open rails project's database configuration file: myproject/config/database.yml

  4. Add the socket config to the development database config:

-->

development:
  adapter: mysql2
  encoding: utf8
  reconnect: false
  database: difiuri_falcioni
  pool: 5
  username: root
  password:
  host: localhost
  socket: /Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/var/mysql/mysql.sock
  1. Restart rails server

Enjoy :)

Deleting Objects in JavaScript

Just found a jsperf you may consider interesting in light of this matter. (it could be handy to keep it around to complete the picture)

It compares delete, setting null and setting undefined.

But keep in mind that it tests the case when you delete/set property many times.

Secure FTP using Windows batch script

The built in FTP command doesn't have a facility for security. Use cUrl instead. It's scriptable, far more robust and has FTP security.

Jump to function definition in vim

g* does a decent job without ctags being set up.

That is, type g,* (or just * - see below) to search for the word under the cursor (in this case, the function name). Then press n to go to the next (or Shift-n for previous) occurrence.

It doesn't jump directly to the definition, given that this command just searches for the word under the cursor, but if you don't want to deal with setting up ctags at the moment, you can at least save yourself from having to re-type the function name to search for its definition.

--Edit-- Although I've been using g* for a long time, I've recently discovered two shortcuts for these shortcuts!

(a) * will jump to the next occurrence of the word under the cursor. (No need to type the g, the 'goto' command in vi).

(b) # goes to the previous occurrence, in similar fashion.

N and n still work, but '#' is often very useful to start the search initially in the reverse direction, for example, when looking for the declaration of a variable under the cursor.

Determine number of pages in a PDF file

I have used pdflib for this.

    p = new pdflib();

    /* Open the input PDF */
    indoc = p.open_pdi_document("myTestFile.pdf", "");
    pageCount = (int) p.pcos_get_number(indoc, "length:pages");

How to check whether a str(variable) is empty or not?

   print("Value is not entered")
else:
   print("Value is entered")

find if an integer exists in a list of integers

The best of code and complete is here:

NumbersList.Exists(p => p.Equals(Input)

Use:

List<int> NumbersList = new List<int>();
private void button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
    int Input = Convert.ToInt32(textBox1.Text);
    if (!NumbersList.Exists(p => p.Equals(Input)))
    {
       NumbersList.Add(Input);
    }
    else
    {
        MessageBox.Show("The number entered is in the list","Error");
    }
}

NuGet auto package restore does not work with MSBuild

MSBuild 15 has a /t:restore option that does this. it comes with Visual Studio 2017.

If you want to use this, you also have to use the new PackageReference, which means replacing the packages.config file with elements like this (do this in *.csproj):

<ItemGroup>
  <!-- ... -->
  <PackageReference Include="Contoso.Utility.UsefulStuff" Version="3.6.0" />
  <!-- ... -->
</ItemGroup>

There is an automated migration to this format if you right click on 'References' (it might not show up if you just opened visual studio, rebuild or open up the 'Manage NuGet packages for solution' window and it will start appearing).

How to truncate string using SQL server

If you only want to return a few characters of your long string, you can use:

select
  left(col, 15) + '...' col
from yourtable

See SQL Fiddle with Demo.

This will return the first 15 characters of the string and then concatenates the ... to the end of it.

If you want to to make sure than strings less than 15 do not get the ... then you can use:

select
  case
    when len(col)>=15
    then left(col, 15) + '...'
    else col end col
from yourtable

See SQL Fiddle with Demo

How can I convert a char to int in Java?

If you want to get the ASCII value of a character, or just convert it into an int, you need to cast from a char to an int.

What's casting? Casting is when we explicitly convert from one primitve data type, or a class, to another. Here's a brief example.

public class char_to_int
{
  public static void main(String args[])
  {
       char myChar = 'a';
       int i = (int) myChar; // cast from a char to an int
       System.out.println ("ASCII value - " + i);
  }

In this example, we have a character ('a'), and we cast it to an integer. Printing this integer out will give us the ASCII value of 'a'.

How to fix Python indentation

If you're using Vim, see :h retab.

                                                        *:ret* *:retab*
:[range]ret[ab][!] [new_tabstop]
                        Replace all sequences of white-space containing a
                        <Tab> with new strings of white-space using the new
                        tabstop value given. If you do not specify a new
                        tabstop size or it is zero, Vim uses the current value
                        of 'tabstop'.
                        The current value of 'tabstop' is always used to
                        compute the width of existing tabs.
                        With !, Vim also replaces strings of only normal
                        spaces with tabs where appropriate.
                        With 'expandtab' on, Vim replaces all tabs with the
                        appropriate number of spaces.
                        This command sets 'tabstop' to the new value given,
                        and if performed on the whole file, which is default,
                        should not make any visible change.
                        Careful: This command modifies any <Tab> characters
                        inside of strings in a C program. Use "\t" to avoid
                        this (that's a good habit anyway).
                        ":retab!" may also change a sequence of spaces by
                        <Tab> characters, which can mess up a printf().
                        {not in Vi}
                        Not available when |+ex_extra| feature was disabled at
                        compile time.

For example, if you simply type

:ret

all your tabs will be expanded into spaces.

You may want to

:se et " shorthand for :set expandtab

to make sure that any new lines will not use literal tabs.

If you're not using Vim,

perl -i.bak -pe "s/\t/' 'x(8-pos()%8)/eg" file.py

will replace tabs with spaces, assuming tab stops every 8 characters, in file.py (with the original going to file.py.bak, just in case). Replace the 8s with 4s if your tab stops are every 4 spaces instead.

display: flex not working on Internet Explorer

Internet Explorer doesn't fully support Flexbox due to:

Partial support is due to large amount of bugs present (see known issues).

enter image description here Screenshot and infos taken from caniuse.com

Notes

Internet Explorer before 10 doesn't support Flexbox, while IE 11 only supports the 2012 syntax.

Known issues

  • IE 11 requires a unit to be added to the third argument, the flex-basis property see MSFT documentation.
  • In IE10 and IE11, containers with display: flex and flex-direction: column will not properly calculate their flexed childrens' sizes if the container has min-height but no explicit height property. See bug.
  • In IE10 the default value for flex is 0 0 auto rather than 0 1 auto as defined in the latest spec.
  • IE 11 does not vertically align items correctly when min-height is used. See bug.

Workarounds

Flexbugs is a community-curated list of Flexbox issues and cross-browser workarounds for them. Here's a list of all the bugs with a workaround available and the browsers that affect.

  1. Minimum content sizing of flex items not honored
  2. Column flex items set to align-items: center overflow their container
  3. min-height on a flex container won't apply to its flex items
  4. flex shorthand declarations with unitless flex-basis values are ignored
  5. Column flex items don't always preserve intrinsic aspect ratios
  6. The default flex value has changed
  7. flex-basis doesn't account for box-sizing: border-box
  8. flex-basis doesn't support calc()
  9. Some HTML elements can't be flex containers
  10. align-items: baseline doesn't work with nested flex containers
  11. Min and max size declarations are ignored when wrapping flex items
  12. Inline elements are not treated as flex-items
  13. Importance is ignored on flex-basis when using flex shorthand
  14. Shrink-to-fit containers with flex-flow: column wrap do not contain their items
  15. Column flex items ignore margin: auto on the cross axis
  16. flex-basis cannot be animated
  17. Flex items are not correctly justified when max-width is used

Customizing Bootstrap CSS template

The best thing to do is.

1. fork twitter-bootstrap from github and clone locally.

they are changing really quickly the library/framework (they diverge internally. Some prefer library, i'd say that it's a framework, because change your layout from the time you load it on your page). Well... forking/cloning will let you fetch the new upcoming versions easily.

2. Do not modify the bootstrap.css file

It's gonna complicate your life when you need to upgrade bootstrap (and you will need to do it).

3. Create your own css file and overwrite whenever you want original bootstrap stuff

if they set a topbar with, let's say, color: black; but you wan it white, create a new very specific selector for this topbar and use this rule on the specific topbar. For a table for example, it would be <table class="zebra-striped mycustomclass">. If you declare your css file after bootstrap.css, this will overwrite whatever you want to.

Output PowerShell variables to a text file

$computer,$Speed,$Regcheck will create an array, and run out-file ones per variable = they get seperate lines. If you construct a single string using the variables first, it will show up a single line. Like this:

"$computer,$Speed,$Regcheck" | out-file -filepath C:\temp\scripts\pshell\dump.txt -append -width 200

PHP function to generate v4 UUID

How about using mysql to generate the uuid for you?

$conn = new mysqli($servername, $username, $password, $dbname, $port);

$query = 'SELECT UUID()';
echo $conn->query($query)->fetch_row()[0];

Insert data through ajax into mysql database

Why use normal jquery ajax feature. Why not use jquery ajax form plugin, which post the form data by ajax to the form action link.

Check it here:

http://malsup.com/jquery/form/#getting-started

It is very easy to use and support several data formats including json, html xml etc. Checkout the example and you will find it very easy to use.

Thank you

bash: shortest way to get n-th column of output

If you are ok with manually selecting the column, you could be very fast using pick:

Just go to any cell of the 2nd column, press c and then hit enter

Controlling mouse with Python

The accepted answer worked for me but it was unstable (sometimes clicks wouldn't regsiter) so I added an additional MOUSEEVENTF_LEFTUP . Then it was working reliably

import win32api, win32con
def click(x,y):
    win32api.SetCursorPos((x,y))
    win32api.mouse_event(win32con.MOUSEEVENTF_LEFTUP,x,y,0,0)
    win32api.mouse_event(win32con.MOUSEEVENTF_LEFTDOWN,x,y,0,0)
    win32api.mouse_event(win32con.MOUSEEVENTF_LEFTUP,x,y,0,0)
click(10,10)

How to send Request payload to REST API in java?

I tried with a rest client.

Headers :

  • POST /r/gerrit/rpc/ChangeDetailService HTTP/1.1
  • Host: git.eclipse.org
  • User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:18.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/18.0
  • Accept: application/json
  • Accept-Language: null
  • Accept-Encoding: gzip,deflate,sdch
  • accept-charset: ISO-8859-1,utf-8;q=0.7,*;q=0.3
  • Content-Type: application/json; charset=UTF-8
  • Content-Length: 73
  • Connection: keep-alive

it works fine. I retrieve 200 OK with a good body.

Why do you set a status code in your request? and multiple declaration "Accept" with Accept:application/json,application/json,application/jsonrequest. just a statement is enough.

How to save data file into .RData?

Just to add an additional function should you need it. You can include a variable in the named location, for example a date identifier

date <- yyyymmdd
save(city, file=paste0("c:\\myuser\\somelocation\\",date,"_RData.Data")

This was you can always keep a check of when it was run

Getting list of parameter names inside python function

locals() returns a dictionary with local names:

def func(a,b,c):
    print(locals().keys())

prints the list of parameters. If you use other local variables those will be included in this list. But you could make a copy at the beginning of your function.

Passing multiple variables to another page in url

Short answer:

This is what you are trying to do but it poses some security and encoding problems so don't do it.

$url = "http://localhost/main.php?email=" . $email_address . "&eventid=" . $event_id;

Long answer:

All variables in querystrings need to be urlencoded to ensure proper transmission. You should never pass a user's personal information in a url because urls are very leaky. Urls end up in log files, browsing histories, referal headers, etc. The list goes on and on.

As for proper url encoding, it can be achieved using either urlencode() or http_build_query(). Either one of these should work:

$url = "http://localhost/main.php?email=" . urlencode($email_address) . "&eventid=" . urlencode($event_id);

or

$vars = array('email' => $email_address, 'event_id' => $event_id);
$querystring = http_build_query($vars);
$url = "http://localhost/main.php?" . $querystring;

Additionally, if $event_id is in your session, you don't actually need to pass it around in order to access it from different pages. Just call session_start() and it should be available.

How to calculate the median of an array?

I faced a similar problem yesterday. I wrote a method with Java generics in order to calculate the median value of every collection of Numbers; you can apply my method to collections of Doubles, Integers, Floats and returns a double. Please consider that my method creates another collection in order to not alter the original one. I provide also a test, have fun. ;-)

public static <T extends Number & Comparable<T>> double median(Collection<T> numbers){
    if(numbers.isEmpty()){
        throw new IllegalArgumentException("Cannot compute median on empty collection of numbers");
    }
    List<T> numbersList = new ArrayList<>(numbers);
    Collections.sort(numbersList);
    int middle = numbersList.size()/2;
    if(numbersList.size() % 2 == 0){
        return 0.5 * (numbersList.get(middle).doubleValue() + numbersList.get(middle-1).doubleValue());
    } else {
        return numbersList.get(middle).doubleValue();
    }

}

JUnit test code snippet:

/**
 * Test of median method, of class Utils.
 */
@Test
public void testMedian() {
    System.out.println("median");
    Double expResult = 3.0;
    Double result = Utils.median(Arrays.asList(3.0,2.0,1.0,9.0,13.0));
    assertEquals(expResult, result);
    expResult = 3.5;
    result = Utils.median(Arrays.asList(3.0,2.0,1.0,9.0,4.0,13.0));
    assertEquals(expResult, result);
}

Usage example (consider the class name is Utils):

List<Integer> intValues = ... //omitted init
Set<Float> floatValues = ... //omitted init
.....
double intListMedian = Utils.median(intValues);
double floatSetMedian = Utils.median(floatValues);

Note: my method works on collections, you can convert arrays of numbers to list of numbers as pointed here

Merge two objects with ES6

You can use Object.assign() to merge them into a new object:

_x000D_
_x000D_
const response = {_x000D_
  lat: -51.3303,_x000D_
  lng: 0.39440_x000D_
}_x000D_
_x000D_
const item = {_x000D_
  id: 'qwenhee-9763ae-lenfya',_x000D_
  address: '14-22 Elder St, London, E1 6BT, UK'_x000D_
}_x000D_
_x000D_
const newItem = Object.assign({}, item, { location: response });_x000D_
_x000D_
console.log(newItem );
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

You can also use object spread, which is a Stage 4 proposal for ECMAScript:

_x000D_
_x000D_
const response = {_x000D_
  lat: -51.3303,_x000D_
  lng: 0.39440_x000D_
}_x000D_
_x000D_
const item = {_x000D_
  id: 'qwenhee-9763ae-lenfya',_x000D_
  address: '14-22 Elder St, London, E1 6BT, UK'_x000D_
}_x000D_
_x000D_
const newItem = { ...item, location: response }; // or { ...response } if you want to clone response as well_x000D_
_x000D_
console.log(newItem );
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

How to convert a normal Git repository to a bare one?

Simply read

Pro Git Book: 4.2 Git on the Server - Getting Git on a Server

which boild down to

$ git clone --bare my_project my_project.git
Cloning into bare repository 'my_project.git'...
done.

Then put my_project.git to the server

Which mainly is, what answer #42 tried to point out. Shurely one could reinvent the wheel ;-)

What does the M stand for in C# Decimal literal notation?

M refers to the first non-ambiguous character in "decimal". If you don't add it the number will be treated as a double.

D is double.

Oracle: SQL query that returns rows with only numeric values

If the only characters to consider are letters then you can do:

select X from myTable where upper(X) = lower(X)

But of course that won't filter out other characters, just letters.

Polygon Drawing and Getting Coordinates with Google Map API v3

The other answers show you to create the polygons, but not how to get the coordinates...

I'm not sure the best way to do it, but heres one way.. It seems like there should be a method to get the paths from the polygon, but I can't find one, and getPath() doesn't seem to work for me. So here's a manual approach that worked for me..

Once you've finished drawing your polygon, and pass in your polygon to the overlay complete function, you can find the coordinates in the polygon.overlay.latLngs.b[0].b

google.maps.event.addListener(drawingManager, 'overlaycomplete', function(polygon) {
        $.each(polygon.overlay.latLngs.b[0].b, function(key, latlng){
            var lat = latlng.d;
            var lon = latlng.e;
            console.log(lat, lon); //do something with the coordinates
        });
});

note, i'm using jquery to loop over the list of coordinates, but you can do loop however.

Is there a Newline constant defined in Java like Environment.Newline in C#?

As of Java 7 (and Android API level 19):

  • ...that it's the crunky rendering engine of old versions of IE you're interested in detecting, to make a style look right in old IE (otherwise, use feature detection)
  • ...that you can't just add conditional comments to the HTML - e.g. for JS plugins that can be applied to any page (otherwise, just do the trick of conditional classes on <body> or <html>)

...then this is probably the best trick (based on this non-jQuery, slightly less flexible variant). It creates then tests for then removes an appropriate conditional comment.

(Conditional comments are ignored in IE10+ 'standards mode' - but that should be fine since IE10+ 'standards mode' doesn't have a crazy rendering engine!)

Drop in this function:

function isIE( version, comparison ){
    var $div = $('<div style="display:none;"/>');

    // Don't chain these, in IE8 chaining stops some versions of jQuery writing the conditional comment properly
    $div.appendTo($('body'));
    $div.html('<!--[if '+(comparison||'')+' IE '+(version||'')+']><a>&nbsp;</a><![endif]-->');

    var ieTest = $div.find('a').length;
    $div.remove();
    return ieTest;
}

Then use it like this:

if(isIE()){ /* runs in all versions of IE after 4 before standards-mode 10 */ }

if(isIE(8)){ /* runs in IE8 */ }

if(isIE(9)){ /* runs in IE9 */ }

if(isIE(8,'lte')){ /* runs in IE8 or below */ }

if(isIE(6,'lte')){ /* if you need this, I pity you... */ }

I'd also suggest caching the results of this function so you don't have to repeat it. For example, you could use the string (comparison||'')+' IE '+(version||'') as a key to store and check for the result of this test in an object somewhere.

Counting the number of elements in array

Just use the length filter on the whole array. It works on more than just strings:

What is the difference between HTML tags and elements?

Tags and Elements are not the same.

Elements

They are the pieces themselves, i.e. a paragraph is an element, or a header is an element, even the body is an element. Most elements can contain other elements, as the body element would contain header elements, paragraph elements, in fact pretty much all of the visible elements of the DOM.

Eg:

<p>This is the <span>Home</span> page</p>

Tags

Tags are not the elements themselves, rather they're the bits of text you use to tell the computer where an element begins and ends. When you 'mark up' a document, you generally don't want those extra notes that are not really part of the text to be presented to the reader. HTML borrows a technique from another language, SGML, to provide an easy way for a computer to determine which parts are "MarkUp" and which parts are the content. By using '<' and '>' as a kind of parentheses, HTML can indicate the beginning and end of a tag, i.e. the presence of '<' tells the browser 'this next bit is markup, pay attention'.

The browser sees the letters '

' and decides 'A new paragraph is starting, I'd better start a new line and maybe indent it'. Then when it sees '

' it knows that the paragraph it was working on is finished, so it should break the line there before going on to whatever is next.

Read file from resources folder in Spring Boot

if you have for example config folder under Resources folder I tried this Class working perfectly hope be useful

System.out.println(content);

Why does NULL = NULL evaluate to false in SQL server

The equality test, for example, in a case statement when clause, can be changed from

XYZ = NULL

to

XYZ IS NULL

If I want to treat blanks and empty string as equal to NULL I often also use an equality test like:

(NULLIF(ltrim( XYZ ),'') IS NULL)

What are good message queue options for nodejs?

You could use the node STOMP client. This would let you integrate with a variety of message queues including:

  • ActiveMQ
  • RabbitMQ
  • HornetQ

I haven't used this library before, so I can't vouch for its quality. But STOMP is a pretty simple protocol so I suspect you can hack it into submission if necessary.

Another option is to use beanstalkd with node. beanstalkd is a very fast "task queue" written in C that is very good if you don't need the feature flexibility of the brokers listed above.

Using custom fonts using CSS?

Today there are four font container formats in use on the web: EOT, TTF, WOFF,andWOFF2.

Unfortunately, despite the wide range of choices, there isn't a single universal format that works across all old and new browsers:

  • EOT is IE only,
  • TTF has partial IE support,
  • WOFF enjoys the widest support but is not available in some older browsers
  • WOFF 2.0 support is a work in progress for many browsers.

If you want your web app to have the same font across all browsers then you might want to provide all 4 font type in CSS

 @font-face {
      font-family: 'besom'; !important
      src: url('fonts/besom/besom.eot');
      src: url('fonts/besom/besom.eot?#iefix') format('embedded-opentype'),
           url('fonts/besom/besom.woff2') format('woff2'),
           url('fonts/besom/besom.woff') format('woff'),
           url('fonts/besom/besom.ttf') format('truetype'),
           url('fonts/besom/besom.svg#besom_2regular') format('svg');
      font-weight: normal;
      font-style: normal;
  }

Mysql adding user for remote access

In order to connect remotely you have to have MySQL bind port 3306 to your machine's IP address in my.cnf. Then you have to have created the user in both localhost and '%' wildcard and grant permissions on all DB's as such . See below:

my.cnf (my.ini on windows)

#Replace xxx with your IP Address
bind-address        = xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

then

CREATE USER 'myuser'@'localhost' IDENTIFIED BY 'mypass';
CREATE USER 'myuser'@'%' IDENTIFIED BY 'mypass';

Then

GRANT ALL ON *.* TO 'myuser'@'localhost';
GRANT ALL ON *.* TO 'myuser'@'%';
flush privileges;

Depending on your OS you may have to open port 3306 to allow remote connections.

Assign pandas dataframe column dtypes

facing similar problem to you. In my case I have 1000's of files from cisco logs that I need to parse manually.

In order to be flexible with fields and types I have successfully tested using StringIO + read_cvs which indeed does accept a dict for the dtype specification.

I usually get each of the files ( 5k-20k lines) into a buffer and create the dtype dictionaries dynamically.

Eventually I concatenate ( with categorical... thanks to 0.19) these dataframes into a large data frame that I dump into hdf5.

Something along these lines

import pandas as pd
import io

output = io.StringIO()
output.write('A,1,20,31\n')
output.write('B,2,21,32\n')
output.write('C,3,22,33\n')
output.write('D,4,23,34\n')

output.seek(0)

df=pd.read_csv(output, header=None,
        names=["A","B","C","D"],
        dtype={"A":"category","B":"float32","C":"int32","D":"float64"},
        sep=","
       )

df.info()

<class 'pandas.core.frame.DataFrame'>
RangeIndex: 5 entries, 0 to 4
Data columns (total 4 columns):
A    5 non-null category
B    5 non-null float32
C    5 non-null int32
D    5 non-null float64
dtypes: category(1), float32(1), float64(1), int32(1)
memory usage: 205.0 bytes

Not very pythonic.... but does the job

Hope it helps.

What does this format means T00:00:00.000Z?

It's a part of ISO-8601 date representation. It's incomplete because a complete date representation in this pattern should also contains the date:

2015-03-04T00:00:00.000Z //Complete ISO-8601 date

If you try to parse this date as it is you will receive an Invalid Date error:

new Date('T00:00:00.000Z'); // Invalid Date

So, I guess the way to parse a timestamp in this format is to concat with any date

new Date('2015-03-04T00:00:00.000Z'); // Valid Date

Then you can extract only the part you want (timestamp part)

var d = new Date('2015-03-04T00:00:00.000Z');
console.log(d.getUTCHours()); // Hours
console.log(d.getUTCMinutes());
console.log(d.getUTCSeconds());

How to center a WPF app on screen?

You can still use the Screen class from a WPF app. You just need to reference the System.Windows.Forms assembly from your application. Once you've done that, (and referenced System.Drawing for the example below):

Rectangle workingArea = System.Windows.Forms.Screen.PrimaryScreen.WorkingArea;

...works just fine.

Have you considered setting your main window property WindowStartupLocation to CenterScreen?

MySQL: #1075 - Incorrect table definition; autoincrement vs another key?

You can have an auto-Incrementing column that is not the PRIMARY KEY, as long as there is an index (key) on it:

CREATE TABLE members (
  id int(11) UNSIGNED NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT,
  memberid VARCHAR( 30 ) NOT NULL ,
  `time` TIMESTAMP NOT NULL DEFAULT CURRENT_TIMESTAMP ,
  firstname VARCHAR( 50 ) NULL ,
  lastname VARCHAR( 50 ) NULL ,
  PRIMARY KEY (memberid) ,
  KEY (id) --- or: UNIQUE KEY (id)
) ENGINE = MYISAM;

How to skip over an element in .map()?

I think the most simple way to skip some elements from an array is by using the filter() method.

By using this method (ES5) and the ES6 syntax you can write your code in one line, and this will return what you want:

_x000D_
_x000D_
let images = [{src: 'img.png'}, {src: 'j1.json'}, {src: 'img.png'}, {src: 'j2.json'}];_x000D_
_x000D_
let sources = images.filter(img => img.src.slice(-4) != 'json').map(img => img.src);_x000D_
_x000D_
console.log(sources);

Change color of Label in C#

I am going to assume this is a WinForms questions (which it feels like, based on it being a "program" rather than a website/app). In which case you can simple do the following to change the text colour of a label:

myLabel.ForeColor = System.Drawing.Color.Red;

Or any other colour of your choice. If you want to be more specific you can use an RGB value like so:

myLabel.ForeColor = Color.FromArgb(0, 0, 0);//(R, G, B) (0, 0, 0 = black)

Having different colours for different users can be done a number of ways. For example, you could allow each user to specify their own RGB value colours, store these somewhere and then load them when the user "connects".

An alternative method could be to just use 2 colours - 1 for the current user (running the app) and another colour for everyone else. This would help the user quickly identify their own messages above others.

A third approach could be to generate the colour randomly - however you will likely get conflicting values that do not show well against your background, so I would suggest not taking this approach. You could have a pre-defined list of "acceptable" colours and just pop one from that list for each user that joins.

How to list all files in a directory and its subdirectories in hadoop hdfs

If you are using hadoop 2.* API there are more elegant solutions:

    Job job = Job.getInstance(conf);
    FileSystem fs = FileSystem.get(conf);

    //the second boolean parameter here sets the recursion to true
    RemoteIterator<LocatedFileStatus> fileStatusListIterator = fs.listFiles(
            new Path("path/to/lib"), true);
    while(fileStatusListIterator.hasNext()){
        LocatedFileStatus fileStatus = fileStatusListIterator.next();
        //do stuff with the file like ...
        job.addFileToClassPath(fileStatus.getPath());

p = numpy.poly1d(z)
pylab.plot(x,p(x),"r--")

Increase max_execution_time in PHP?

2021 EDIT:

As PHP and Apache evolve and grow, I think it is important for me to take a moment to mention a few things to consider and possible "gotchas" to consider:

  • PHP can be run as a module or as CGI. It is not recommended to run as CGI as it creates a lot of opportunities for attack vectors [Read More]. Running as a module (the safer option) will trigger the settings to be used if the specific module from <IfModule is loaded.
  • The answer indicates to write mod_php5.c in the first line. If you are using PHP 7, you would replace that with mod_php7.c.
  • Sometimes after you make changes to your .htaccess file, restarting Apache or NGINX will not work. The most common reason for this is you are running PHP-FPM, which runs as a separate process. You need to restart that as well.
  • Remember these are settings that are normally defined in your php.ini config file(s). This method is usually only useful in the event your hosting provider does not give you access to change those files. In circumstances where you can edit the PHP configuration, it is recommended that you apply these settings there.
  • Finally, it's important to note that not all php.ini settings can be configured via an .htaccess file. A file list of php.ini directives can be found here, and the only ones you can change are the ones in the changeable column with the modes PHP_INI_ALL or PHP_INI_PERDIR.

console.log(result) returns [object Object]. How do I get result.name?

Use console.log(JSON.stringify(result)) to get the JSON in a string format.

EDIT: If your intention is to get the id and other properties from the result object and you want to see it console to know if its there then you can check with hasOwnProperty and access the property if it does exist:

var obj = {id : "007", name : "James Bond"};
console.log(obj);                    // Object { id: "007", name: "James Bond" }
console.log(JSON.stringify(obj));    //{"id":"007","name":"James Bond"}
if (obj.hasOwnProperty("id")){
    console.log(obj.id);             //007
}

How can I color dots in a xy scatterplot according to column value?

Non-VBA Solution:

You need to make an additional group of data for each color group that represent the Y values for that particular group. You can use these groups to make multiple data sets within your graph.

Here is an example using your data:

     A       B        C        D                    E                        F                            G
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1| COMPANY XVALUE YVALUE GROUP Red Orange Green
2| Apple     45       35       red         =IF($D2="red",$C2,NA()) =IF($D2="orange",$C2,NA()) =IF($D2="green",$C2,NA())
3| Xerox     45       38       red         =IF($D3="red",$C3,NA()) =IF($D3="orange",$C3,NA()) =IF($D3="green",$C3,NA())
4| KMart     63       50       orange      =IF($D4="red",$C4,NA()) =IF($D4="orange",$C4,NA()) =IF($D4="green",$C4,NA())
5| Exxon     53       59       green       =IF($D5="red",$C5,NA()) =IF($D5="orange",$C5,NA()) =IF($D5="green",$C5,NA())

It should look like this afterwards:

     A       B        C        D          E           F          G
---------------------------------------------------------------------
1| COMPANY XVALUE YVALUE GROUP Red Orange Green
2| Apple     45       35       red         35         #N/A       #N/A
3| Xerox     45       38       red         38         #N/A       #N/A
4| KMart     63       50       orange     #N/A         50        #N/A
5| Exxon     53       59       green      #N/a        #N/A        59

Now you can generate your graph using different data sets. Here is a picture showing just this example data:

enter image description here

You can change the series (X;Y) values to B:B ; E:E, B:B ; F:F, B:B ; G:G respectively, to make it so the graph is automatically updated when you add more data.

Find if value in column A contains value from column B?

You can use VLOOKUP, but this requires a wrapper function to return True or False. Not to mention it is (relatively) slow. Use COUNTIF or MATCH instead.

Fill down this formula in column K next to the existing values in column I (from I1 to I2691):

=COUNTIF(<entire column E range>,<single column I value>)>0
=COUNTIF($E$1:$E$99504,$I1)>0

You can also use MATCH:

=NOT(ISNA(MATCH(<single column I value>,<entire column E range>)))
=NOT(ISNA(MATCH($I1,$E$1:$E$99504,0)))

Disable Laravel's Eloquent timestamps

You can temporarily disable timestamps

Regarding 'main(int argc, char *argv[])'

argc is the number of command line arguments given to the program at runtime, and argv is an array of arrays of characters (rather, an array of C-strings) containing these arguments. If you know you're not going to need the command line arguments, you can declare your main at taking a void argument, instead:

int main(void) {
    /* ... */
}

Those are the only two prototypes defined for main as per the standards, but some compilers allow a return type of void as well. More on this on Wikipedia.

Changing the color of a clicked table row using jQuery

in your css:

.selected{
    background: #F00;
}

in the jquery:

$("#data tr").click(function(){

});

Basically you create a class and adds/removes it from the selected row.

Btw you could have shown more effort, there's no css or jquery/js at all in your code xD

Improper use of the innerHTML can open you up to a cross-site scripting (XSS) attack. Sanitizing user input for display is notoriously error-prone, and failure to properly sanitize is one of the leading causes of web vulnerabilities on the internet.

Our design philosophy is that it should be "easy" to make things safe, and developers should explicitly state their intent when performing “unsafe” operations. The prop name dangerouslySetInnerHTML is intentionally chosen to be frightening, and the prop value (an object instead of a string) can be used to indicate sanitized data.

After fully understanding the security ramifications and properly sanitizing the data, create a new object containing only the key __html and your sanitized data as the value. Here is an example using the JSX syntax:

function createMarkup() {
    return {
       __html: 'First &middot; Second'    };
 };

<div dangerouslySetInnerHTML={createMarkup()} />

    v := reflect.ValueOf(stats)
    typeOfS := v.Type()

    for i := 0; i< v.NumField(); i++ {
        val := v.Field(i).Interface().(int)
        s.Base[typeOfS.Field(i).Name] = val
    }
    return s
}

func (s Stats) GetBaseStat(id string) int {
    return s.Base[id]
}

func main() {
    m := StatsCreate(BaseStats{300, 300, 300, 300, 10, 10, 10})

    fmt.Println(m.GetBaseStat("Hp"))

Get age from Birthdate

JsFiddle

You can calculate with Dates.

var birthdate = new Date("1990/1/1");
var cur = new Date();
var diff = cur-birthdate; // This is the difference in milliseconds
var age = Math.floor(diff/31557600000); // Divide by 1000*60*60*24*365.25

How do you stop tracking a remote branch in Git?

This is not an answer to the question, but I couldn't figure out how to get decent code formatting in a comment above... so auto-down-reputation-be-damned here's my comment.

I have the recipe submtted by @Dobes in a fancy shmancy [alias] entry in my .gitconfig:

# to untrack a local branch when I can't remember 'git config --unset'
cbr = "!f(){ git symbolic-ref -q HEAD 2>/dev/null | sed -e 's|refs/heads/||'; }; f"
bruntrack = "!f(){ br=${1:-`git cbr`};  \
    rm=`git config --get branch.$br.remote`; \
    tr=`git config --get branch.$br.merge`; \
    [ $rm:$tr = : ] && echo \"# untrack: not a tracking branch: $br\" && return 1; \
    git config --unset branch.$br.remote; git config --unset branch.$br.merge; \
    echo \"# untrack: branch $br no longer tracking $rm:$tr\"; return 0; }; f"

Then I can just run

$ git bruntrack branchname

How to recognize swipe in all 4 directions

From the storyboard:

  1. Add four swipe gesture recognizers to your view.
  2. Set each one with the target direction from the attribute inspector. You can select right, left, up or down
  3. One by one, select the swipe gesture recognizer, control + drag to your view controller. Insert the name (let us say leftGesture, rightGesture, upGesture and downGesture), change the connection to: Action and type to: UISwipeGestureRecognizer

From your viewController:

@IBAction func rightGesture(sender: UISwipeGestureRecognizer) {
    print("Right")
}
@IBAction func leftGesture(sender: UISwipeGestureRecognizer) {
    print("Left")
}
@IBAction func upGesture(sender: UISwipeGestureRecognizer) {
    print("Up")
}

@IBAction func downGesture(sender: UISwipeGestureRecognizer) {
    print("Down")
}

What does on_delete do on Django models?

Here is answer for your question that says: why we use on_delete?

When an object referenced by a ForeignKey is deleted, Django by default emulates the behavior of the SQL constraint ON DELETE CASCADE and also deletes the object containing the ForeignKey. This behavior can be overridden by specifying the on_delete argument. For example, if you have a nullable ForeignKey and you want it to be set null when the referenced object is deleted:

user = models.ForeignKey(User, blank=True, null=True, on_delete=models.SET_NULL)

The possible values for on_delete are found in django.db.models:

CASCADE: Cascade deletes; the default.

PROTECT: Prevent deletion of the referenced object by raising ProtectedError, a subclass of django.db.IntegrityError.

SET_NULL: Set the ForeignKey null; this is only possible if null is True.

SET_DEFAULT: Set the ForeignKey to its default value; a default for the ForeignKey must be set.

How to remove new line characters from data rows in mysql?

For new line characters

UPDATE table_name SET field_name = TRIM(TRAILING '\n' FROM field_name);
UPDATE table_name SET field_name = TRIM(TRAILING '\r' FROM field_name);
UPDATE table_name SET field_name = TRIM(TRAILING '\r\n' FROM field_name);

For all white space characters

UPDATE table_name SET field_name = TRIM(field_name);
UPDATE table_name SET field_name = TRIM(TRAILING '\n' FROM field_name);
UPDATE table_name SET field_name = TRIM(TRAILING '\r' FROM field_name);
UPDATE table_name SET field_name = TRIM(TRAILING '\r\n' FROM field_name);
UPDATE table_name SET field_name = TRIM(TRAILING '\t' FROM field_name);

IndexError: too many indices for array

The message that you are getting is not for the default Exception of Python:

For a fresh python list, IndexError is thrown only on index not being in range (even docs say so).

>>> l = []
>>> l[1]
IndexError: list index out of range

If we try passing multiple items to list, or some other value, we get the TypeError:

>>> l[1, 2]
TypeError: list indices must be integers, not tuple

>>> l[float('NaN')]
TypeError: list indices must be integers, not float

However, here, you seem to be using matplotlib that internally uses numpy for handling arrays. On digging deeper through the codebase for numpy, we see:

static NPY_INLINE npy_intp
unpack_tuple(PyTupleObject *index, PyObject **result, npy_intp result_n)
{
    npy_intp n, i;
    n = PyTuple_GET_SIZE(index);
    if (n > result_n) {
        PyErr_SetString(PyExc_IndexError,
                        "too many indices for array");
        return -1;
    }
    for (i = 0; i < n; i++) {
        result[i] = PyTuple_GET_ITEM(index, i);
        Py_INCREF(result[i]);
    }
    return n;
}

where, the unpack method will throw an error if it the size of the index is greater than that of the results.

So, Unlike Python which raises a TypeError on incorrect Indexes, Numpy raises the IndexError because it supports multidimensional arrays.

R: Break for loop

your break statement should break out of the for (in in 1:n).

Personally I am always wary with break statements and double check it by printing to the console to double check that I am in fact breaking out of the right loop. So before you test add the following statement, which will let you know if you break before it reaches the end. However, I have no idea how you are handling the variable n so I don't know if it would be helpful to you. Make a n some test value where you know before hand if it is supposed to break out or not before reaching n.

for (in in 1:n)
{
    if (in == n)         #add this statement
    {
        "sorry but the loop did not break"
    }

    id_novo <- new_table_df$ID[in]
    if(id_velho==id_novo)
    {
        break
    }
    else if(in == n)
    {
        sold_df <- rbind(sold_df,old_table_df[out,])
    }
}

How to grep and replace

Another option would be to just use perl with globstar.

Enabling shopt -s globstar in your .bashrc (or wherever) allows the ** glob pattern to match all sub-directories and files recursively.

Thus using perl -pXe 's/SEARCH/REPLACE/g' -i ** will recursively replace SEARCH with REPLACE.

The -X flag tells perl to "disable all warnings" - which means that it won't complain about directories.

The globstar also allows you to do things like sed -i 's/SEARCH/REPLACE/g' **/*.ext if you wanted to replace SEARCH with REPLACE in all child files with the extension .ext.

C# 4.0 optional out/ref arguments

There actually is a way to do this that is allowed by C#. This gets back to C++, and rather violates the nice Object-Oriented structure of C#.

USE THIS METHOD WITH CAUTION!

Here's the way you declare and write your function with an optional parameter:

unsafe public void OptionalOutParameter(int* pOutParam = null)
{
    int lInteger = 5;
    // If the parameter is NULL, the caller doesn't care about this value.
    if (pOutParam != null)
    {
        // If it isn't null, the caller has provided the address of an integer.
        *pOutParam = lInteger; // Dereference the pointer and assign the return value.
    }
}

Then call the function like this:

unsafe { OptionalOutParameter(); } // does nothing
int MyInteger = 0;
unsafe { OptionalOutParameter(&MyInteger); } // pass in the address of MyInteger.

In order to get this to compile, you will need to enable unsafe code in the project options. This is a really hacky solution that usually shouldn't be used, but if you for some strange, arcane, mysterious, management-inspired decision, REALLY need an optional out parameter in C#, then this will allow you to do just that.

Iterate through DataSet

Finding length of char array

sizeof returns the size of the type of the variable in bytes. So in your case it's returning the size of your char[7] which is 7 * sizeof(char). Since sizeof(char) = 1, the result is 7.

Expanding this to another example:

int intArr[5];
printf("sizeof(intArr)=%u", sizeof(intArr));

would yield 5 * sizeof(int), so you'd get the result "20" (At least on a regular 32bit platform. On others sizeof(int) might differ)

To return to your problem:

It seems like, that what you want to know is the length of the string which is contained inside your array and not the total array size.

By definition C-Strings have to be terminated with a trailing '\0' (0-Byte). So to get the appropriate length of the string contained within your array, you have to first terminate the string, so that you can tell when it's finished. Otherwise there would be now way to know.

All standard functions build upon this definition, so if you call strlen to retrieve the str ing len gth, it will iterate through the given array until it finds the first 0-byte, which in your case would be the very first element.

Another thing you might need to know that only because you don't fill the remaining elements of your char[7] with a value, they actually do contain random undefined values.

Hope that helped.

app.controller('ctrl',function($scope,$http,$httpParamSerializer){
  $http.post(url,$httpParamSerializer({param:val,secondParam:secondVal}));

How to create an ArrayList from an Array in PowerShell?

I can't get that constructor to work either. This however seems to work:

# $temp = Get-ResourceFiles
$resourceFiles = New-Object System.Collections.ArrayList($null)
$resourceFiles.AddRange($temp)

You can also pass an integer in the constructor to set an initial capacity.

What do you mean when you say you want to enumerate the files? Why can't you just filter the wanted values into a fresh array?

Edit:

It seems that you can use the array constructor like this:

$resourceFiles = New-Object System.Collections.ArrayList(,$someArray)

Note the comma. I believe what is happening is that when you call a .NET method, you always pass parameters as an array. PowerShell unpacks that array and passes it to the method as separate parameters. In this case, we don't want PowerShell to unpack the array; we want to pass the array as a single unit. Now, the comma operator creates arrays. So PowerShell unpacks the array, then we create the array again with the comma operator. I think that is what is going on.

How to make Visual Studio copy a DLL file to the output directory?

xcopy /y /d  "$(ProjectDir)External\*.dll" "$(TargetDir)"

You can also refer to a relative path, the next example will find the DLL in a folder located one level above the project folder. If you have multiple projects that use the DLL in a single solution, this places the source of the DLL in a common area reachable when you set any of them as the Startup Project.

xcopy /y /d  "$(ProjectDir)..\External\*.dll" "$(TargetDir)"

The /y option copies without confirmation. The /d option checks to see if a file exists in the target and if it does only copies if the source has a newer timestamp than the target.

I found that in at least newer versions of Visual Studio, such as VS2109, $(ProjDir) is undefined and had to use $(ProjectDir) instead.

Leaving out a target folder in xcopy should default to the output directory. That is important to understand reason $(OutDir) alone is not helpful.

$(OutDir), at least in recent versions of Visual Studio, is defined as a relative path to the output folder, such as bin/x86/Debug. Using it alone as the target will create a new set of folders starting from the project output folder. Ex: … bin/x86/Debug/bin/x86/Debug.

Combining it with the project folder should get you to the proper place. Ex: $(ProjectDir)$(OutDir).

However $(TargetDir) will provide the output directory in one step.

Python Save to file

In order to write into a file in Python, we need to open it in write w, append a or exclusive creation x mode.

We need to be careful with the w mode, as it will overwrite into the file if it already exists. Due to this, all the previous data are erased.

Writing a string or sequence of bytes (for binary files) is done using the write() method. This method returns the number of characters written to the file.

with open('Failed.py','w',encoding = 'utf-8') as f:
   f.write("Write what you want to write in\n")
   f.write("this file\n\n")

This program will create a new file named Failed.py in the current directory if it does not exist. If it does exist, it is overwritten.

We must include the newline characters ourselves to distinguish the different lines.

How to parse my json string in C#(4.0)using Newtonsoft.Json package?

You could create your own class of type Quiz and then deserialize with strong type:

Example:

quizresult = JsonConvert.DeserializeObject<Quiz>(args.Message,
                 new JsonSerializerSettings
                 {
                     Error = delegate(object sender1, ErrorEventArgs args1)
                     {
                         errors.Add(args1.ErrorContext.Error.Message);
                         args1.ErrorContext.Handled = true;
                     }
                 });

And you could also apply a schema validation.

How to clear all data in a listBox?

Try

private void cleanlistbox(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
   ListBox1.Items.Clear();
}

How to convert a Datetime string to a current culture datetime string

This works for me:

string myTime = DateTime.Parse("12/1/2011")
                        .ToString(CultureInfo.GetCultureInfo("en-GB").DateTimeFormat.ShortDatePattern);

Load vs. Stress testing

The terms "stress testing" and "load testing" are often used interchangeably by software test engineers but they are really quite different.

Stress testing

In Stress testing we tries to break the system under test by overwhelming its resources or by taking resources away from it (in which case it is sometimes called negative testing). The main purpose behind this madness is to make sure that the system fails and recovers gracefully -- this quality is known as recoverability. OR Stress testing is the process of subjecting your program/system under test (SUT) to reduced resources and then examining the SUT’s behavior by running standard functional tests. The idea of this is to expose problems that do not appear under normal conditions.For example, a multi-threaded program may work fine under normal conditions but under conditions of reduced CPU availability, timing issues will be different and the SUT will crash. The most common types of system resources reduced in stress testing are CPU, internal memory, and external disk space. When performing stress testing, it is common to call the tools which reduce these three resources EatCPU, EatMem, and EatDisk respectively.

While on the other hand Load Testing

In case of Load testing Load testing is the process of subjecting your SUT to heavy loads, typically by simulating multiple users( Using Load runner), where "users" can mean human users or virtual/programmatic users. The most common example of load testing involves subjecting a Web-based or network-based application to simultaneous hits by thousands of users. This is generally accomplished by a program which simulates the users. There are two main purposes of load testing: to determine performance characteristics of the SUT, and to determine if the SUT "breaks" gracefully or not.

In the case of a Web site, you would use load testing to determine how many users your system can handle and still have adequate performance, and to determine what happens with an extreme load — will the Web site generate a "too busy" message for users, or will the Web server crash in flames?

JQuery Ajax POST in Codeigniter

In codeigniter there is no need to sennd "data" in ajax post method.. here is the example .

   searchThis = 'This text will be search';
    $.ajax({
      type: "POST",
      url: "<?php echo site_url();?>/software/search/"+searchThis,
      dataType: "html",
      success:function(data){
        alert(data);
      },

    });

Note : in url , software is the controller name , search is the function name and searchThis is the variable that i m sending.

Here is the controller.

    public function search(){
    $search = $this->uri->segment(3);
      echo '<p>'.$search.'</p>';
    }

I hope you can get idea for your work .

How to pause in C?

Under POSIX systems, the best solution seems to use:

#include <unistd.h>

pause ();

If the process receives a signal whose effect is to terminate it (typically by typing Ctrl+C in the terminal), then pause will not return and the process will effectively be terminated by this signal. A more advanced usage is to use a signal-catching function, called when the corresponding signal is received, after which pause returns, resuming the process.

Note: using getchar() will not work is the standard input is redirected; hence this more general solution.

How to change an input button image using CSS?

Let's assume you can't change the input type, or even the src. You ONLY have css to play with.

If you know the height you want, and you have the url of a background image you want to use instead, you're in luck.

Set the height to zero and padding-top to the height you want. That'll shove the original image out of sight, giving you a perfectly clean space to show your css background-image.

Works in Chrome. No idea if it works in IE. Barely anything clever does, so probably not.

How to make/get a multi size .ico file?

What i do is to prepare a 512x512 PNG, the Alpha Channel is good for rounded corners or drop shadows, then I upload it to this site http://convertico.com/, and for free then it returns me a 6 sizes .ico file with 256x256, 128x128, 64x64, 48x48, 32x32 and 16x16 sizes.

How to pattern match using regular expression in Scala?

You can do this because regular expressions define extractors but you need to define the regex pattern first. I don't have access to a Scala REPL to test this but something like this should work.

val Pattern = "([a-cA-C])".r
word.firstLetter match {
   case Pattern(c) => c bound to capture group here
   case _ =>
}

How to fix java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError: Unsupported major.minor version

I got the same problem, and I fixed this issue by this solution on a Mac. I hope it helps someone. It's because the system doesn't know about the newer version of JDK, and it still points to the old JDK.

100% width Twitter Bootstrap 3 template

You're right using div.container-fluid and you also need a div.row child. Then, the content must be placed inside without any grid columns. If you have a look at the docs you can find this text:

  • Rows must be placed within a .container (fixed-width) or .container-fluid (full-width) for proper alignment and padding.
  • Use rows to create horizontal groups of columns.

Not using grid columns it's ok as stated here:

  • Content should be placed within columns, and only columns may be immediate children of rows.

And looking at this example, you can read this text:

Full width, single column: No grid classes are necessary for full-width elements.

Here's a live example showing some elements using the correct layout. This way you don't need any custom CSS or hack.

How to use BufferedReader in Java

Try this to read a file:

BufferedReader reader = null;

try {
    File file = new File("sample-file.dat");
    reader = new BufferedReader(new FileReader(file));

    String line;
    while ((line = reader.readLine()) != null) {
        System.out.println(line);
    }

} catch (IOException e) {
    e.printStackTrace();
} finally {
    try {
        reader.close();
    } catch (IOException e) {
        e.printStackTrace();
    }
