What does HTTP/1.1 302 mean exactly?

A 302 redirect means that the page was temporarily moved, while a 301 means that it was permanently moved.

301s are good for SEO value, while 302s aren't because 301s instruct clients to forget the value of the original URL, while the 302 keeps the value of the original and can thus potentially reduce the value by creating two, logically-distinct URLs that each produce the same content (search engines view them as distinct duplicates rather than a single resource with two names).

You just compile it. In the bin\Release (or bin\Debug) folder, the .exe will be in there.

If you're asking how to make an executable which does not rely on the .NET framework at all, then that's a lot harder and you'll need to purchase something like RemoteSoft's Salamader. In general, it's not really worth the bother: Windows Vista comes with .NET framework 2.0 pre-installed already so if you're worried about that, you can just target the 2.0 framework (then only XP users would have to install the framework).

Deleting rows from parent and child tables

Two possible approaches.

  1. If you have a foreign key, declare it as on-delete-cascade and delete the parent rows older than 30 days. All the child rows will be deleted automatically.

  2. Based on your description, it looks like you know the parent rows that you want to delete and need to delete the corresponding child rows. Have you tried SQL like this?

Yes, it's safe to use $_SERVER['HTTP_HOST'], (and even $_GET and $_POST) as long as you verify them before accepting them. This is what I do for secure production servers:

The advantage of $_SERVER['HTTP_HOST'] is that its behavior is more well-defined than $_SERVER['SERVER_NAME']. Contrast ??:

Using a better defined interface like $_SERVER['HTTP_HOST'] means that more SAPIs will implement it using reliable well-defined behavior. (Unlike the other.) However, it is still totally SAPI dependent ??:

There is no guarantee that every web server will provide any of these [$_SERVER entries]; servers may omit some, or provide others not listed here.

To understand how to properly retrieve the host name, first and foremost you need to understand that a server which contains only code has no means of knowing (pre-requisite for verifying) its own name on the network. It needs to interface with a component that supplies it its own name. This can be done via:

  • local config file

  • local database

  • hardcoded source code

  • external request (curl)

  • client/attacker's Host: request

  • etc

Usually its done via the local (SAPI) config file. Note that you have configured it correctly, e.g. in Apache ??:

A couple of things need to be 'faked' to make the dynamic virtual host look like a normal one.

The most important is the server name which is used by Apache to generate self-referential URLs, etc. It is configured with the ServerName directive, and it is available to CGIs via the SERVER_NAME environment variable.

The actual value used at run time is controlled by the UseCanonicalName setting.

With UseCanonicalName Off the server name comes from the contents of the Host: header in the request. With UseCanonicalName DNS it comes from a reverse DNS lookup of the virtual host's IP address. The former setting is used for name-based dynamic virtual hosting, and the latter is used for** IP-based hosting.

If Apache cannot work out the server name because there is no Host: header or the DNS lookup fails then the value configured with ServerName is used instead.

In make, when it comes to search, the paths are many, the light is one... or something to that effect.

  1. C_INCLUDE_PATH is system-wide, set it in your shell's *.rc.
  2. $(CPPFLAGS) is for the preprocessor include path.
  3. If you need to add a general search path for make, use:

make uses VPATH as a general search path so use cautiously. If a file exists in more than one location listed in VPATH, make will take the first occurrence in the list.

We do a lot of work where we need to figure out which IP's are within certain subnets. I've found that the simplest and most reliable way to do this is:

MySQL vs MongoDB 1000 reads

Do you have concurrency, i.e simultaneous users ? If you just run 1000 times the query straight, with just one thread, there will be almost no difference. Too easy for these engines :)

BUT I strongly suggest that you build a true load testing session, which means using an injector such as JMeter with 10, 20 or 50 users AT THE SAME TIME so you can really see a difference (try to embed this code inside a web page JMeter could query).

I just did it today on a single server (and a simple collection / table) and the results are quite interesting and surprising (MongoDb was really faster on writes & reads, compared to MyISAM engine and InnoDb engine).

This really should be part of your test : concurrency & MySQL engine. Then, data/schema design & application needs are of course huge requirements, beyond response times. Let me know when you get results, I'm also in need of inputs about this!

What does "restore purchases" in In-App purchases mean?

You typically restore purchases with this code:

It will reinvoke -paymentQueue:updatedTransactions on the observer(s) for the purchased items. This is useful for users who reinstall the app after deletion or install it on a different device.

Not all types of In-App purchases can be restored.

Creating new database from a backup of another Database on the same server?

Think of it like an archive. MyDB.Bak contains MyDB.mdf and MyDB.ldf.

Restore with Move to say HerDB basically grabs MyDB.mdf (and ldf) from the back up, and copies them as HerDB.mdf and ldf.

So if you already had a MyDb on the server instance you are restoring to it wouldn't be touched.

Java: Instanceof and Generics

Finding what branch a Git commit came from

While Dav is correct that the information isn't directly stored, that doesn't mean you can't ever find out. Here are a few things you can do.

Find branches the commit is on

git branch -a --contains <commit>

This will tell you all branches which have the given commit in their history. Obviously this is less useful if the commit's already been merged.

Search the reflogs

If you are working in the repository in which the commit was made, you can search the reflogs for the line for that commit. Reflogs older than 90 days are pruned by git-gc, so if the commit's too old, you won't find it. That said, you can do this:

git reflog show --all | grep a871742

to find commit a871742. Note that you MUST use the abbreviatd 7 first digits of the commit. The output should be something like this:

a871742 refs/heads/completion@{0}: commit (amend): mpc-completion: total rewrite

indicating that the commit was made on the branch "completion". The default output shows abbreviated commit hashes, so be sure not to search for the full hash or you won't find anything.

git reflog show is actually just an alias for git log -g --abbrev-commit --pretty=oneline, so if you want to fiddle with the output format to make different things available to grep for, that's your starting point!

If you're not working in the repository where the commit was made, the best you can do in this case is examine the reflogs and find when the commit was first introduced to your repository; with any luck, you fetched the branch it was committed to. This is a bit more complex, because you can't walk both the commit tree and reflogs simultaneously. You'd want to parse the reflog output, examining each hash to see if it contains the desired commit or not.

Find a subsequent merge commit

This is workflow-dependent, but with good workflows, commits are made on development branches which are then merged in. You could do this:

git log --merges <commit>..

to see merge commits that have the given commit as an ancestor. (If the commit was only merged once, the first one should be the merge you're after; otherwise you'll have to examine a few, I suppose.) The merge commit message should contain the branch name that was merged.

If you want to be able to count on doing this, you may want to use the --no-ff option to git merge to force merge commit creation even in the fast-forward case. (Don't get too eager, though. That could become obfuscating if overused.) VonC's answer to a related question helpfully elaborates on this topic.

I had a similar problem when trying to use boost unit testing in Visual Studio 2015 (Community Edition):

so I thought I'd share my solution.

You can create a boost unit testing project in of of two ways (and this solution works for both):

  1. using the Boost Unit Test Adapter
  2. or by creating a Win32 Console Application (steps here), and substituting the main function with a boost unit testing function (steps here).

Here are the steps I followed to get both projects to work:

First, download the desired boost version (for example, boost_1_57_0). You can either download boost with the correct binaries (compiled using msvc v140), or extract the binaries yourself by running the following commands from command line:

  1. bootstrap.bat
  2. "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 14.0\VC\vcvarsall.bat" x86
  3. bjam --clean
  4. bjam -j4 --debug-symbols=on --build-type=complete toolset=msvc-14.0 threading=multi runtime-link=shared address-model=32

Where msvc-14.0 specifies that we require the Visual Studio 2015 version (VS 2015 = v14.0 = v140), and address-model=32 specifies that we require platform 32 (but the same can be done for 64 bit).

Once you have the binaries, go to Visual Studio, select the Boost Unit Testing project you have created. Go to Project properties > configuration (from the main menu) and make the following choices:

  • Set the "General > Platform Toolset" to Visual Studio 2015 (v140).

  • Include the path to the boost folder (e.g. C:\boost_1_57_0) and the path to the subfolder containing the binary files (e.g. C:\boost_1_57_0\stage\lib) in:

    • "C\C++ > Additional Include Directory"
    • and "Linker > Additional Library Directories".

tl;dr Set the editor to something nicer, like Sublime or Atom

Here nice is used in the meaning of an editor you like or find more user friendly.

The underlying problem is that Git by default uses an editor that is too unintuitive to use for most people: Vim. Now, don't get me wrong, I love Vim, and while you could set some time aside (like a month) to learn Vim and try to understand why some people think Vim is the greatest editor in existence, there is a quicker way of fixing this problem :-)

The fix is not to memorize cryptic commands, like in the accepted answer, but configuring Git to use an editor that you like and understand! It's really as simple as configuring either of these options

  1. the git config setting core.editor (per project, or globally)
  2. the VISUAL or EDITOR environment variable (this works for other programs as well)

I'll cover the first option for a couple of popular editors, but GitHub has an excellent guide on this for many editors as well.

To use Atom

Straight from its docs, enter this in a terminal: git config --global core.editor "atom --wait"

Git normally wait for the editor command to finish, but since Atom forks to a background process immediately, this won't work, unless you give it the --wait option.

To use Sublime Text

For the same reasons as in the Atom case, you need a special flag to signal to the process that it shouldn't fork to the background:

Class not registered Error

My problem and the solution

  1. I have a 32 bit third party dll which I have installed in 2008 R2 machine which is 64 bit.

  2. I have a wcf service created in .net 4.5 framework which calls the 32 bit third party dll for process. Now I have build property set to target 'any' cpu and deployed it to the 64 bit machine.

  3. When Ii tried to invoke the wcf service got error "80040154 Class not registered (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80040154 (REGDB_E_CLASSNOTREG"

  4. Now Ii used ProcMon.exe to trace the com registry issue and identified that the process is looking for the registry entry at HKLM\CLSID and HKCR\CLSID where there is no entry.

  5. Came to know that Microsoft will not register the 32 bit com components to the paths HKLM\CLSID, HKCR\CLSID in 64 bit machine rather it places the entry in HKLM\Wow6432Node\CLSID and HKCR\Wow6432Node\CLSID paths.

  6. Now the conflict is 64 bit process trying to invoke 32 bit process in 64 bit machine which will look for the registry entry in HKLM\CLSID, HKCR\CLSID. The solution is we have to force the 64 bit process to look at the registry entry at HKLM\Wow6432Node\CLSID and HKCR\Wow6432Node\CLSID.

  7. This can be achieved by configuring the wcf service project properties to target to 'X86' machine instead of 'Any'.

  8. After deploying the 'X86' version to the 2008 R2 server got the issue "System.BadImageFormatException: Could not load file or assembly"

  9. Solution to this badimageformatexception is setting the 'Enable32bitApplications' to 'True' in IIS Apppool properties for the right apppool.

I just fund another way to do the same workaround. Because of I hadn' t the possibility to click on the yellow triangle (even if I have admin role), when you go inside testflight, then iOS (under "Build") instead of yellow triangle click the version number, another page will open and you will find on top right something like add compliance information (sorry if I am not totally accurate but I have the italian version but it would be really easy to find). It's not that your file is partially downloaded. It fails authentication and hence downloads e.g "index.html" but it names it myfile.zip (since this is what you want to download).

How do you find all subclasses of a given class in Java?

There is no other way to do it other than what you described. Think about it - how can anyone know what classes extend ClassX without scanning each class on the classpath?

Eclipse can only tell you about the super and subclasses in what seems to be an "efficient" amount of time because it already has all of the type data loaded at the point where you press the "Display in Type Hierarchy" button (since it is constantly compiling your classes, knows about everything on the classpath, etc).

Can I edit an iPad's host file?

I needed the same functionality, and doing jailbreak is no-no. One solution is to host yourself DNS server (MaraDNS), go to your wifi settings in ipad/phone, and add your custom DNS server there.

The whole process took me only 10 minutes, and it works!

    • a timestamp field that is type datetime
    • and you are monotonically increasing the timestamp value for each document

If your documents are not inserted with any field that is of type datetime, then I don't believe you can get the N "most recent".

Or set the SessionState's mode property to InProc, so that the state service is not required.

Should I declare Jackson's ObjectMapper as a static field?

Yes, that is safe and recommended.

The only caveat from the page you referred is that you can't be modifying configuration of the mapper once it is shared; but you are not changing configuration so that is fine. If you did need to change configuration, you would do that from the static block and it would be fine as well.

EDIT: (2013/10)

With 2.0 and above, above can be augmented by noting that there is an even better way: use ObjectWriter and ObjectReader objects, which can be constructed by ObjectMapper. They are fully immutable, thread-safe, meaning that it is not even theoretically possible to cause thread-safety issues (which can occur with ObjectMapper if code tries to re-configure instance).

I agree with Code Complete (Use positive boolean variable names), I also believe that rules are made to be broken. The key is to break them only when you absoluately have to. In this case, none of the alternative names are as clear as the name that "breaks" the rule. So this is one of those times where breaking the rule can be okay.

Angular2: custom pipe could not be found

I take no issue with the accepted answer as it certainly helped me. However, after implementing it, I still got the same error.

Turns out this was because I was calling the pipes incorrectly in my component as well:

My custom-pipe.ts file:

So far, so good, but in my component.html file I was calling the pipes as follows:

How to create a numpy array of arbitrary length strings?

You can do so by creating an array of dtype=object. If you try to assign a long string to a normal numpy array, it truncates the string:

But when you use dtype=object, you get an array of python object references. So you can have all the behaviors of python strings:

Indeed, because it's an array of objects, you can assign any kind of python object to the array:

However, this undoes a lot of the benefits of using numpy, which is so fast because it works on large contiguous blocks of raw memory. Working with python objects adds a lot of overhead. A simple example:

Read contents of a local file into a variable in Rails

Answering my own question here... turns out it's a Windows only quirk that happens when reading binary files (in my case a JPEG) that requires an additional flag in the open or File.open function call. I revised it to open("/path/to/file", 'rb') {|io| a = a + io.read} and all was fine.

If you are planning on doing any kind of inheritance, then I would recommend this.constructor. This simple example should illustrate why:

I ran into this problem recently - the issue was that I had included the jQuery UI files in the head tag, but the Telerik library I was using included jQuery at the bottom of the body tag (thus apparently re-initializing jQuery and unloading the UI plugins previously loaded).

The solution was to find out where jQuery was actually being included, and including the jQuery UI scripts after that.

I had the same problem and nothing mentioned here worked for me. Here is what worked for me:

  1. Require all dependencies you need in the main.js file that is run by electron. (this seemed to be the first important part for me)
  2. Run npm i -D electron-rebuild to add the electron-rebuild package
  3. Remove the node-modules folder, as well as the packages-lock.json file.
  4. Run npm i to install all modules.
  5. Run ./node_modules/.bin/electron-rebuild (.\node_modules\.bin\electron-rebuild.cmd for Windows) to rebuild everything

It is very important to run ./node_modules/.bin/electron-rebuild directly after npm i otherwise it did not work on my mac.

I hope I could help some frustrated souls.

The point is in avoiding many concatenations of long strings. We chop the source string to fragments, replacing some of the fragments as we form the list, and then join the whole thing back into a string.

How to generate an openSSL key using a passphrase from the command line?

If you don't use a passphrase, then the private key is not encrypted with any symmetric cipher - it is output completely unprotected.

You can generate a keypair, supplying the password on the command-line using an invocation like (in this case, the password is foobar):

openssl genrsa -aes128 -passout pass:foobar 3072

However, note that this passphrase could be grabbed by any other process running on the machine at the time, since command-line arguments are generally visible to all processes.

A better alternative is to write the passphrase into a temporary file that is protected with file permissions, and specify that:

openssl genrsa -aes128 -passout file:passphrase.txt 3072

Or supply the passphrase on standard input:

openssl genrsa -aes128 -passout stdin 3072

You can also used a named pipe with the file: option, or a file descriptor.


To then obtain the matching public key, you need to use openssl rsa, supplying the same passphrase with the -passin parameter as was used to encrypt the private key:

openssl rsa -passin file:passphrase.txt -pubout

(This expects the encrypted private key on standard input - you can instead read it from a file using -in <file>).


Example of creating a 3072-bit private and public key pair in files, with the private key pair encrypted with password foobar:

Difference between readFile() and readFileSync()

fs.readFile takes a call back which calls response.send as you have shown - good. If you simply replace that with fs.readFileSync, you need to be aware it does not take a callback so your callback which calls response.send will never get called and therefore the response will never end and it will timeout.

You need to show your readFileSync code if you're not simply replacing readFile with readFileSync.

Also, just so you're aware, you should never call readFileSync in a node express/webserver since it will tie up the single thread loop while I/O is performed. You want the node loop to process other requests until the I/O completes and your callback handling code can run.

Fastest way to flatten / un-flatten nested JSON objects

Here is some code I wrote to flatten an object I was working with. It creates a new class that takes every nested field and brings it into the first layer. It will not matter if some cells are empty, it will simply see them as containing zeros!

In Python 3, there's no implicit conversion between unicode (str) objects and bytes objects. If you know the encoding of the output, you can .decode() it to get a string, or you can turn the \n you want to add to bytes with "\n".encode('ascii')

Using jQuery to center a DIV on the screen

you're getting that poor transition because you're adjusting the position of the element every time the document is scrolled. What you want is to use fixed positioning. I tried that fixed center plugin listed above and that seems to do solve the problem nicely. Fixed positioning allows you to center an element once, and the CSS property will take care of maintaining that position for you every time you scroll.

Problem was my package name. It MUST be "com.outbottle" (then config/controllers/model/etc) for it to work. As you can see above, I used Maven (for the first time), Spring, 1.8 JDK and nearly had a stroke debugging this issue. All running on Glassfish (Tomcat is ok too for the above pom config). That said, I'm all happy with myself now and know Maven and Spring much better for the next step of my Spring learning curve. Hoping this helps you also!

Asynchronous file upload (AJAX file upload) using jsp and javascript

I don't believe AJAX can handle file uploads but this can be achieved with libraries that leverage flash. Another advantage of the flash implementation is the ability to do multiple files at once (like gmail).

jQuery and some of the other libraries have plugins that leverage SWFUpload. On my last project we used SWFUpload and Java without a problem.

If I had to guess, I'd say you installed the PPA 7.1.8 as CLI only (php7-cli). You're getting your version info from that, but your libapache2-mod-php package is still 14.04 main which is 5.6. Check your phpinfo in your browser to confirm the version. You might also consider migrating to Ubuntu 16.04 to get PHP 7.0 in main.

PowerShell Connect to FTP server and get files

The AlexFTPS library used in the question seems to be dead (was not updated since 2011).


With no external libraries

You can try to implement this without any external library. But unfortunately, neither the .NET Framework nor PowerShell have any explicit support for downloading all files in a directory (let only recursive file downloads).

You have to implement that yourself:

  • List the remote directory
  • Iterate the entries, downloading files (and optionally recursing into subdirectories - listing them again, etc.)

Tricky part is to identify files from subdirectories. There's no way to do that in a portable way with the .NET framework (FtpWebRequest or WebClient). The .NET framework unfortunately does not support the MLSD command, which is the only portable way to retrieve directory listing with file attributes in FTP protocol. See also Checking if object on FTP server is file or directory.

Your options are:

  • If you know that the directory does not contain any subdirectories, use the ListDirectory method (NLST FTP command) and simply download all the "names" as files.
  • Do an operation on a file name that is certain to fail for file and succeeds for directories (or vice versa). I.e. you can try to download the "name".
  • You may be lucky and in your specific case, you can tell a file from a directory by a file name (i.e. all your files have an extension, while subdirectories do not)
  • You use a long directory listing (LIST command = ListDirectoryDetails method) and try to parse a server-specific listing. Many FTP servers use *nix-style listing, where you identify a directory by the d at the very beginning of the entry. But many servers use a different format. The following example uses this approach (assuming the *nix format)

Using 3rd party library

If you want to avoid troubles with parsing the server-specific directory listing formats, use a 3rd party library that supports the MLSD command and/or parsing various LIST listing formats. And ideally with a support for downloading all files from a directory or even recursive downloads.

For example with WinSCP .NET assembly you can download whole directory with a single call to Session.GetFiles:

Internally, WinSCP uses the MLSD command, if supported by the server. If not, it uses the LIST command and supports dozens of different listing formats.

As I see this question is getting a lot of views, it is important to indicate that the syntax to follow is:

if [ conditions ]
# ^ ^          ^

meaning that spaces are needed around the brackets. Otherwise, it won't work. This is because [ itself is a command.

The reason why you are not seeing something like elif[: command not found (or similar) is that after seeing if and then, the shell is looking for either elif, else, or fi. However it finds another then (after the mis-formatted elif[). Only after having parsed the statement it would be executed (and an error message like elif[: command not found would be output).

You'd need to add moment.lang(navigator.language) in your script.

And must also add each country locale you want to display in : for example for GB or FR, you need to add that locale format in moment.js library. An example of such format is available in momentjs documentation. If you don't add this format in moment.js then it'd ALWAYS pick up US locale as that's the only one that I currently see.

This solution will treat leap years (29 February) and month length differences in a way we would naturally do (I think).

So for example, the interval between 28 February 2015 and 28 March 2015 will be considered exactly one month, not 28 days. If both those days are in 2016, the difference will still be exactly one month, not 29 days.

Dates with exactly the same month and day, but different year, will always have a difference of an exact number of years. So the difference between 2015-03-01 and 2016-03-01 will be exactly 1 year, not 1 year and 1 day (because of counting 365 days as 1 year).

Declarations of public functions go in header files, yes, but definitions are absolutely valid in headers as well! You may declare the definition as static (only 1 copy allowed for the entire program) if you are defining things in a header for utility functions that you don't want to have to define again in each c file. I.E. defining an enum and a static function to translate the enum to a string. Then you won't have to rewrite the enum to string translator for each .c file that includes the header. :)

The 'risk' here is that a vote is cast, but the count not updated (haking or script failure). This is why the votes have a unique 'priority' - the script should really start by ensuring that there is no vote with priority higher than the current count, if there is it should complete that transaction before doing its own - get your clients to clean up for you :)

The count needs to be initialised with a priority before you start - forge doesn't let you do this, so a stub script is needed (before the validation is active!).

requests does not handle parsing XML responses, no. XML responses are much more complex in nature than JSON responses, how you'd serialize XML data into Python structures is not nearly as straightforward.

Python comes with built-in XML parsers. I recommend you use the ElementTree API:

For Lisp and Scheme (hell, functional programming in general), there are few things that provide a more solid foundation than The Little Schemer and The Seasoned Schemer. Both provide a very simple and intuitive introduction to both Scheme and functional programming that proves far simpler for new students or hobbyists than any of the typical volumes that rub off like a nonfiction rendition of War & Peace.

Once they've moved beyond the Schemer series, SICP and On Lisp are both fantastic choices.

Is there a C++ gdb GUI for Linux?

You don't mention whether you are using Windows or UNIX.

On UNIX systems, KDevelop is good but I use KDbg because it is easy to use and will also work with apps not developed in KDevelop.

Eclipse is good on both platforms.

On Windows, there is a great package called Wascana Desktop Developer which is Eclipse CDT and MinGW all packaged up and preconfigured nicely for the minimum of pain. Its the best thing I've found for developing GNU code on Windows.

I have used all these debuggers and none of them are as good as MS Dev Studio. Eclipse/Wascana is probably the closest but it does have limitations like you cannot step into DLLs and it doesn't do as good a job at examining variables.

Kill some processes by .exe file name

My solution is to use Process.GetProcess() for listing all the processes.

By filtering them to contain the processes I want, I can then run Process.Kill() method to stop them:

On Windows 10 with Vagrant 2.2.2, setting the environment variable VAGRANT_HOME will ensure that boxes are downloaded to a subfolder of the folder specified for VAGRANT_HOME.

In my case I set VAGRANT_HOME to e:\vagrant_home, and the boxes get stored under e:\vagrant_home\boxes.

This works for me.

That's where the boxes are stored. The virtual machines are being created in the folder configured in Virtual Box. To set the VirtualBox VM storage folder, go to: VirtualBox GUI --> File --> Preferences --> General --> Default Machine Folder.
