Does swift have a trim method on String?

I created this function that allows to enter a string and returns a list of string trimmed by any character

 func Trim(input:String, character:Character)-> [String]
{
    var collection:[String] = [String]()
    var index  = 0
    var copy = input
    let iterable = input
    var trim = input.startIndex.advancedBy(index)

    for i in iterable.characters

    {
        if (i == character)
        {

            trim = input.startIndex.advancedBy(index)
            // apennding to the list
            collection.append(copy.substringToIndex(trim))

            //cut the input
            index += 1
            trim = input.startIndex.advancedBy(index)
            copy = copy.substringFromIndex(trim)

            index = 0
        }
        else
        {
            index += 1
        }
    }
    collection.append(copy)
    return collection

}

as didn't found a way to do this in swift (compiles and work perfectly in swift 2.0)

Kill all processes for a given user

What about iterating on the /proc virtual file system ? http://linux.die.net/man/5/proc ?

Changing SqlConnection timeout

A cleaner way is to set connectionString in xml file, for example Web.Confing(WepApplication) or App.Config(StandAloneApplication).

 <connectionStrings>
    <remove name="myConn"/>
    <add name="myConn" connectionString="User ID=sa;Password=XXXXX;Initial Catalog=qualitaBorri;Data Source=PC_NAME\SQLEXPRESS;Connection Timeout=60"/>
  </connectionStrings>

By code you can get connection in this way:

public static SqlConnection getConnection()
{
        string conn = string.Empty;
        conn = System.Configuration.ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["myConn"].ConnectionString;
        SqlConnection aConnection = new SqlConnection(conn);
        return aConnection;
}

You can set ConnectionTimeout only you create a instance. When instance is create you don't change this value.

How to fix 'Unchecked runtime.lastError: The message port closed before a response was received' chrome issue?

In my case it was from "Automatic Backlink Checker" extension. Maybe this will help some other users to fix their problem easier. I went from disabling all of the extensions at once to disabling them one by one. This way the mole.

Interface extends another interface but implements its methods

Why does it implement its methods? How can it implement its methods when an interface can't contain method body? How can it implement the methods when it extends the other interface and not implement it? What is the purpose of an interface implementing another interface?

Interface does not implement the methods of another interface but just extends them. One example where the interface extension is needed is: consider that you have a vehicle interface with two methods moveForward and moveBack but also you need to incorporate the Aircraft which is a vehicle but with some addition methods like moveUp, moveDown so in the end you have:

public interface IVehicle {
  bool moveForward(int x);
  bool moveBack(int x);
};

and airplane:

public interface IAirplane extends IVehicle {
  bool moveDown(int x);
  bool moveUp(int x);
};

Printing all properties in a Javascript Object

Your syntax is incorrect. The var keyword in your for loop must be followed by a variable name, in this case its propName

var propValue;
for(var propName in nyc) {
    propValue = nyc[propName]

    console.log(propName,propValue);
}

I suggest you have a look here for some basics:

https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/JavaScript/Reference/Statements/for...in

$watch an object

The reason why your code doesn't work is because $watch by default does reference check. So in a nutshell it make sure that the object which is passed to it is new object. But in your case you are just modifying some property of form object not creating a new one. In order to make it work you can pass true as the third parameter.

$scope.$watch('form', function(newVal, oldVal){
    console.log('invoked');
}, true);

It will work but You can use $watchCollection which will be more efficient then $watch because $watchCollection will watch for shallow properties on form object. E.g.

$scope.$watchCollection('form', function (newVal, oldVal) {
    console.log(newVal, oldVal);
});

jQuery pass more parameters into callback

For me, and other newbies who has just contacted with Javascript,
I think that the Closeure Solution is a little kind of too confusing.

While I found that, you can easilly pass as many parameters as you want to every ajax callback using jquery.

Here are two easier solutions.

First one, which @zeroasterisk has mentioned above, example:

var $items = $('.some_class');
$.each($items, function(key, item){
    var url = 'http://request_with_params' + $(item).html();
    $.ajax({
        selfDom     : $(item),
        selfData : 'here is my self defined data',

        url         : url,
        dataType    : 'json',
        success     : function(data, code, jqXHR){
            // in $.ajax callbacks,
            // [this] keyword references to the options you gived to $.ajax
            // if you had not specified the context of $.ajax callbacks.
            // see http://api.jquery.com/jquery.ajax/#jQuery-ajax-settings context
            var $item = this.selfDom;
            var selfdata = this.selfData;
            $item.html( selfdata );
            ...
        }
    });
});

Second one, pass self-defined-datas by adding them into the XHR object which exists in the whole ajax-request-response life span.

var $items = $('.some_class');
$.each($items, function(key, item){
    var url = 'http://request_with_params' + $(item).html();
    $.ajax({
        url         : url,
        dataType    : 'json',
        beforeSend  : function(XHR) {
            // ??????,???? jquery??????? XHR
            XHR.selfDom = $(item);
            XHR.selfData = 'here is my self defined data';
        },
        success     : function(data, code, jqXHR){
            // jqXHR is a superset of the browser's native XHR object
            var $item = jqXHR.selfDom;
            var selfdata = jqXHR.selfData;
            $item.html( selfdata );
            ...
        }
    });
});

As you can see these two solutions has a drawback that : you need write a little more code every time than just write:

$.get/post (url, data, successHandler);

How to send push notification to web browser?

I assume you are talking about real push notifications that can be delivered even when the user is not surfing your website (otherwise check out WebSockets or legacy methods like long polling).

Can we use GCM/APNS to send push notification to all Web Browsers including Firefox & Safari?

GCM is only for Chrome and APNs is only for Safari. Each browser manufacturer offers its own service.

If not via GCM can we have our own back-end to do the same?

The Push API requires two backends! One is offered by the browser manufacturer and is responsible for delivering the notification to the device. The other one should be yours (or you can use a third party service like Pushpad) and is responsible for triggering the notification and contacting the browser manufacturer's service (i.e. GCM, APNs, Mozilla push servers).

Disclosure: I am the Pushpad founder

JS: Failed to execute 'getComputedStyle' on 'Window': parameter is not of type 'Element'

I had the same error on my Angular6 project. none of those solutions seemed to work out for me. turned out that the problem was due to an element which was specified as dropdown but it didn't have dropdown options in it. take a look at code below:

<span class="nav-link" id="navbarDropdownMenuLink" data-toggle="dropdown"
                          aria-haspopup="true" aria-expanded="false">
                        <i class="material-icons "
                           style="font-size: 2rem">notifications</i>
                        <span class="notification"></span>
                        <p>
                            <span class="d-lg-none d-md-block">Some Actions</span>
                        </p>
                    </span>
                    <div class="dropdown-menu dropdown-menu-left"
                         *ngIf="global.localStorageItem('isInSadHich')"
                         aria-labelledby="navbarDropdownMenuLink">
                                        <a class="dropdown-item" href="#">You have 5 new tasks</a>
                                        <a class="dropdown-item" href="#">You're now friend with Andrew</a>
                                        <a class="dropdown-item" href="#">Another Notification</a>
                                        <a class="dropdown-item" href="#">Another One</a>
                    </div>

removing the code data-toggle="dropdown" aria-haspopup="true" aria-expanded="false" solved the problem.

I myself think that by each click on the first span element, the scope expected to set style for dropdown children which did not existed in the parent span, so it threw error.

Using jquery to get all checked checkboxes with a certain class name

 $('input.myclass[type=checkbox]').each(function () {
   var sThisVal = (this.checked ? $(this).val() : ""); });

See jQuery class selectors.

Error handling in C code

First approach is better IMHO:

  • It's easier to write function that way. When you notice an error in the middle of the function you just return an error value. In second approach you need to assign error value to one of the parameters and then return something.... but what would you return - you don't have correct value and you don't return error value.
  • it's more popular so it will be easier to understand, maintain

Spring RestTemplate - how to enable full debugging/logging of requests/responses?

Besides the HttpClient logging described in the other answer, you can also introduce a ClientHttpRequestInterceptor that reads the body of the request and the response and logs it. You might want to do this if other stuff also uses the HttpClient, or if you want a custom logging format. Caution: you will want to give the RestTemplate a BufferingClientHttpRequestFactory such that you can read the response twice.

How to dump a table to console?

Format as JSON (you can "beautify" in IDE later):

local function format_any_value(obj, buffer)
    local _type = type(obj)
    if _type == "table" then
        buffer[#buffer + 1] = '{"'
        for key, value in next, obj, nil do
            buffer[#buffer + 1] = tostring(key) .. '":'
            format_any_value(value, buffer)
            buffer[#buffer + 1] = ',"'
        end
        buffer[#buffer] = '}' -- note the overwrite
    elseif _type == "string" then
        buffer[#buffer + 1] = '"' .. obj .. '"'
    elseif _type == "boolean" or _type == "number" then
        buffer[#buffer + 1] = tostring(obj)
    else
        buffer[#buffer + 1] = '"???' .. _type .. '???"'
    end
end

Usage:

local function format_as_json(obj)
    if obj == nil then return "null" else
        local buffer = {}
        format_any_value(obj, buffer)
        return table.concat(buffer)
    end
end

local function print_as_json(obj)
    print(_format_as_json(obj))
end

print_as_json {1, 2, 3}
print_as_json(nil)
print_as_json("string")
print_as_json {[1] = 1, [2] = 2, three = { { true } }, four = "four"}

BTW, I also wrote several other solutions: a very fast one, and one with special characters escaping: https://github.com/vn971/fast_json_encode

How to remove focus from single editText

Converting xml to string using C#

There's a much simpler way to convert your XmlDocument to a string; use the OuterXml property. The OuterXml property returns a string version of the xml.

public string GetXMLAsString(XmlDocument myxml)
{
    return myxml.OuterXml;
}

Best way to do nested case statement logic in SQL Server

You could try some sort of COALESCE trick, eg:

SELECT COALESCE(
  CASE WHEN condition1 THEN calculation1 ELSE NULL END,
  CASE WHEN condition2 THEN calculation2 ELSE NULL END,
  etc...
)

What does "<>" mean in Oracle

It means 'not equal to'. So you're filtering out records where ordid is 605. Overall you're looking for any records which have the same prodid and qty values as those assigned to ordid 605, but which are for a different order.

Show Console in Windows Application?

Actually AllocConsole with SetStdHandle in a GUI application might be a safer approach. The problem with the "console hijacking" already mentioned, is that the console might not be a foreground window at all, (esp. considering the influx of new window managers in Vista/Windows 7) among other things.

How to make sql-mode="NO_ENGINE_SUBSTITUTION" permanent in MySQL my.cnf

Just to add my configuration to the mix, I'm using MySQL 5.7.8 which has the same strict sql_mode rules by default.

  • I finally figured the following working in my /etc/mysql/my.conf:

    [mysqld]
    sql-mode="STRICT_TRANS_TABLES,NO_ENGINE_SUBSTITUTION"

i.e. dash, not underscore and quotes around the value.

  • I have NO other my.conf files other than /etc/mysql/my.conf

  • There are some extra config includes being loaded from /etc/mysql/conf.d/ but they are blank.

And that seems to work for me.

How to create an empty file at the command line in Windows?

This worked for me,

echo > file.extension

Here's another way I found today, got ideas from other answers but it worked

sometext > filename.extension

Eg.

xyz > emptyfile.txt //this would create an empty zero byte text file
abc > filename.mp4 //this would create an zero byte MP4 video media file

This would show an error message in the command prompt that ,

xyz is not as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

But the weird thing I found was the file is being created in the directory even if the command is not a standard windows command.

python: changing row index of pandas data frame

When you are not sure of the number of rows, then you can do it this way:

followers_df.index = range(len(followers_df))

Postgres Error: More than one row returned by a subquery used as an expression

Technically, to repair your statement, you can add LIMIT 1 to the subquery to ensure that at most 1 row is returned. That would remove the error, your code would still be nonsense.

... 'SELECT store_key FROM store LIMIT 1' ...

Practically, you want to match rows somehow instead of picking an arbitrary row from the remote table store to update every row of your local table customer.
Your rudimentary question doesn't provide enough details, so I am assuming a text column match_name in both tables (and UNIQUE in store) for the sake of this example:

... 'SELECT store_key FROM store
     WHERE match_name = ' || quote_literal(customer.match_name)  ...

But that's an extremely expensive way of doing things.

Ideally, you should completely rewrite the statement.

UPDATE customer c
SET    customer_id = s.store_key
FROM   dblink('port=5432, dbname=SERVER1 user=postgres password=309245'
             ,'SELECT match_name, store_key FROM store')
       AS s(match_name text, store_key integer)
WHERE c.match_name = s.match_name
AND   c.customer_id IS DISTINCT FROM s.store_key;

This remedies a number of problems in your original statement.

  • Obviously, the basic problem leading to your error is fixed.

  • It's almost always better to join in additional relations in the FROM clause of an UPDATE statement than to run correlated subqueries for every individual row.

  • When using dblink, the above becomes a thousand times more important. You do not want to call dblink() for every single row, that's extremely expensive. Call it once to retrieve all rows you need.

  • With correlated subqueries, if no row is found in the subquery, the column gets updated to NULL, which is almost always not what you want.
    In my updated form, the row only gets updated if a matching row is found. Else, the row is not touched.

  • Normally, you wouldn't want to update rows, when nothing actually changes. That's expensively doing nothing (but still produces dead rows). The last expression in the WHERE clause prevents such empty updates:

     AND c.customer_id IS DISTINCT FROM sub.store_key

How to set default value to all keys of a dict object in python?

You can replace your old dictionary with a defaultdict:

>>> from collections import defaultdict
>>> d = {'foo': 123, 'bar': 456}
>>> d['baz']
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "<stdin>", line 1, in <module>
KeyError: 'baz'
>>> d = defaultdict(lambda: -1, d)
>>> d['baz']
-1

The "trick" here is that a defaultdict can be initialized with another dict. This means that you preserve the existing values in your normal dict:

>>> d['foo']
123

Remove '\' char from string c#

         while ((line = stringReader.ReadLine()) != null)
         {
             // split the lines
             for (int c = 0; c < line.Length; c++)
             {
                 line = line.Replace("\\", "");
                 lineBreakOne = line.Substring(1, c - 2);
                 lineBreakTwo = line.Substring(c + 2, line.Length - 2);
             }
         }

How to convert a Binary String to a base 10 integer in Java

This might work:

public int binaryToInteger(String binary) {
    char[] numbers = binary.toCharArray();
    int result = 0;
    for(int i=numbers.length - 1; i>=0; i--)
        if(numbers[i]=='1')
            result += Math.pow(2, (numbers.length-i - 1));
    return result;
}

Passing a callback function to another class

Delegate is just the base class so you can't use it like that. You could do something like this though:

public void DoRequest(string request, Action<string> callback)
{
     // do stuff....
     callback("asdf");
}

How to expire a cookie in 30 minutes using jQuery?

I had issues getting the above code to work within cookie.js. The following code managed to create the correct timestamp for the cookie expiration in my instance.

var inFifteenMinutes = new Date(new Date().getTime() + 15 * 60 * 1000);

This was from the FAQs for Cookie.js

How to iterate object keys using *ngFor

I think the most elegant way to do that is to use the javascript Object.keys like this (I had first implemented a pipe for that but for me, it just complicated my work unnecessary):

in the Component pass Object to template:

Object = Object;

then in the template:

<div *ngFor="let key of Object.keys(objs)">
   my key: {{key}}
   my object {{objs[key] | json}} <!-- hier I could use ngFor again with Object.keys(objs[key]) -->
</div>

If you have a lot of subobjects you should create a component that will print the object for you. By printing the values and keys as you want and on an subobject calling itselfe recursively.

Hier you can find an stackblitz demo for both methods.

How to get the root dir of the Symfony2 application?

Since Symfony 3.3 you can use binding, like

services:
_defaults:
    autowire: true
    autoconfigure: true
    bind:
        $kernelProjectDir: '%kernel.project_dir%'

After that you can use parameter $kernelProjectDir in any controller OR service. Just like

class SomeControllerOrService
{
    public function someAction(...., $kernelProjectDir)
    {
          .....

In JavaScript can I make a "click" event fire programmatically for a file input element?

WORKING SOLUTION

Let me add to this old post, a working solution I used to use that works in probably 80% or more of all browsers both new and old.

The solution is complex yet simple. The first step is to make use of CSS and guise the input file type with "under-elements" that show through as it has an opacity of 0. The next step is to use JavaScript to update its label as needed.

HTML The ID's are simply inserted if you wanted a quick way to access a specific element, the classes however, are a must as they relate to the CSS that sets this whole process up

<div class="file-input wrapper">
    <input id="inpFile0" type="file" class="file-input control" />
    <div class="file-input content">
        <label id="inpFileOutput0" for="inpFileButton" class="file-input output">Click Here</label>
        <input id="inpFileButton0" type="button" class="file-input button" value="Select File" />
    </div>
</div>

CSS Keep in mind, coloring and font-styles and such are totally your preference, if you use this basic CSS, you can always use after-end mark up to style as you please, this is shown in the jsFiddle listed at the end.

.file-test-area {
    border: 1px solid;
    margin: .5em;
    padding: 1em;
}
.file-input {
    cursor: pointer !important;
}
.file-input * {
    cursor: pointer !important;
    display: inline-block;
}
.file-input.wrapper {
    display: inline-block;
    font-size: 14px;
    height: auto;
    overflow: hidden;
    position: relative;
    width: auto;
}
.file-input.control {
    -moz-opacity:0 ;
    filter:alpha(opacity: 0);
    opacity: 0;

    height: 100%;
    position: absolute;
    text-align: right;
    width: 100%;
    z-index: 2;
}
.file-input.content {
    position: relative;
    top: 0px;
    left: 0px;
    z-index: 1;
}
.file-input.output {
    background-color: #FFC;
    font-size: .8em;
    padding: .2em .2em .2em .4em;
    text-align: center;
    width: 10em;
}
.file-input.button {
    border: none;
    font-weight: bold;
    margin-left: .25em;
    padding: 0 .25em;
}

JavaScript Pure and true, however, some OLDER (retired) browsers may still have trouble with it (like Netscrape 2!)

var inp = document.getElementsByTagName('input');
for (var i=0;i<inp.length;i++) {
    if (inp[i].type != 'file') continue;
    inp[i].relatedElement = inp[i].parentNode.getElementsByTagName('label')[0];
    inp[i].onchange /*= inp[i].onmouseout*/ = function () {
        this.relatedElement.innerHTML = this.value;
    };
};

Ruby class instance variable vs. class variable

As others said, class variables are shared between a given class and its subclasses. Class instance variables belong to exactly one class; its subclasses are separate.

Why does this behavior exist? Well, everything in Ruby is an object—even classes. That means that each class has an object of the class Class (or rather, a subclass of Class) corresponding to it. (When you say class Foo, you're really declaring a constant Foo and assigning a class object to it.) And every Ruby object can have instance variables, so class objects can have instance variables, too.

The trouble is, instance variables on class objects don't really behave the way you usually want class variables to behave. You usually want a class variable defined in a superclass to be shared with its subclasses, but that's not how instance variables work—the subclass has its own class object, and that class object has its own instance variables. So they introduced separate class variables with the behavior you're more likely to want.

In other words, class instance variables are sort of an accident of Ruby's design. You probably shouldn't use them unless you specifically know they're what you're looking for.

@class vs. #import

The common practice is using @class in header files (but you still need to #import the superclass), and #import in implementation files. This will avoid any circular inclusions, and it just works.

Benefits of using the conditional ?: (ternary) operator

The advantage of the conditional operator is that it is an operator. In other words, it returns a value. Since if is a statement, it cannot return a value.

How to parse a String containing XML in Java and retrieve the value of the root node?

There is doing XML reading right, or doing the dodgy just to get by. Doing it right would be using proper document parsing.

Or... dodgy would be using custom text parsing with either wisuzu's response or using regular expressions with matchers.

Java GC (Allocation Failure)

"Allocation Failure" is a cause of GC cycle to kick in.

"Allocation Failure" means that no more space left in Eden to allocate object. So, it is normal cause of young GC.

Older JVM were not printing GC cause for minor GC cycles.

"Allocation Failure" is almost only possible cause for minor GC. Another reason for minor GC to kick could be CMS remark phase (if +XX:+ScavengeBeforeRemark is enabled).

Convert double/float to string

sprintf can do this:

#include <stdio.h>
int main() {
  float w = 234.567;
  char x[__SIZEOF_FLOAT__];
  sprintf(x, "%g", w);
  puts(x);
}

How can I completely uninstall nodejs, npm and node in Ubuntu

Note: This will completely remove nodejs from your system; then you can make a fresh install from the below commands.

Removing Nodejs and Npm

sudo apt-get remove nodejs npm node
sudo apt-get purge nodejs

Now remove .node and .npm folders from your system

sudo rm -rf /usr/local/bin/npm
sudo rm -rf /usr/local/share/man/man1/node*
sudo rm -rf /usr/local/lib/dtrace/node.d
sudo rm -rf ~/.npm
sudo rm -rf ~/.node-gyp
sudo rm -rf /opt/local/bin/node
sudo rm -rf opt/local/include/node
sudo rm -rf /opt/local/lib/node_modules

sudo rm -rf /usr/local/lib/node*
sudo rm -rf /usr/local/include/node*
sudo rm -rf /usr/local/bin/node*

Go to home directory and remove any node or node_modules directory, if exists.

You can verify your uninstallation by these commands; they should not output anything.

which node
which nodejs
which npm

Installing NVM (Node Version Manager) by downloading and running a script

curl -o- https://raw.githubusercontent.com/creationix/nvm/v0.34.0/install.sh | bash

The command above will clone the NVM repository from Github to the ~/.nvm directory:

Close and reopen your terminal to start using nvm or run the following to use it now:

export NVM_DIR="$HOME/.nvm"
[ -s "$NVM_DIR/nvm.sh" ] && \. "$NVM_DIR/nvm.sh"  # This loads nvm
[ -s "$NVM_DIR/bash_completion" ] && \. "$NVM_DIR/bash_completion"  # This loads nvm bash_completion

As the output above says, you should either close and reopen the terminal or run the commands to add the path to nvm script to the current shell session. You can do whatever is easier for you.

Once the script is in your PATH, verify that nvm was properly installed by typing:

nvm --version

which should give this output:

0.34.0

Installing Node.js and npm

nvm install node
nvm install --lts

Once the installation is completed, verify it by printing the Node.js version:

node --version

should give this output:

v12.8.1

Npm should also be installed with node, verify it using

npm -v

should give:

6.13.4

Extra - [Optional] You can also use two different versions of node using nvm easily

nvm install 8.10.0 # just put the node version number Now switch between node versions

$ nvm ls
->     v12.14.1
        v13.7.0
default -> lts/* (-> v12.14.1)
node -> stable (-> v13.7.0) (default)
stable -> 13.7 (-> v13.7.0) (default)
iojs -> N/A (default)
unstable -> N/A (default)
lts/* -> lts/erbium (-> v12.14.1)
lts/argon -> v4.9.1 (-> N/A)
lts/boron -> v6.17.1 (-> N/A)
lts/carbon -> v8.17.0 (-> N/A)
lts/dubnium -> v10.18.1 (-> N/A)

In my case v12.14.1 and v13.7.0 both are installed, to switch I have to just use

nvm use 12.14.1

Configuring npm for global installations In your home directory, create a directory for global installations:

mkdir ~/.npm-global

Configure npm to use the new directory path:

npm config set prefix '~/.npm-global'

In your preferred text editor, open or create a ~/.profile file if does not exist and add this line:

PATH="$HOME/.npm-global/bin:$PATH"

On the command line, update your system variables:

source ~/.profile

That's all

Is there an easy way to add a border to the top and bottom of an Android View?

I've used a trick so that the border is displayed outside the container. With this trick only a line is drawn so the background will be shown of the underlying view.

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<layer-list xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" >
    <item
        android:bottom="1dp"
        android:left="-2dp"
        android:right="-2dp"
        android:top="-2dp">
        <shape android:shape="rectangle" >
            <stroke
                android:width="1dp"
                android:color="#FF000000" />

            <solid android:color="#00FFFFFF" />

            <padding android:left="10dp"
                android:right="10dp"
                android:top="10dp"
                android:bottom="10dp" />
        </shape>
    </item>

</layer-list>

Make a VStack fill the width of the screen in SwiftUI

This is what worked for me (ScrollView (optional) so more content can be added if needed, plus centered content):

import SwiftUI

struct SomeView: View {
    var body: some View {
        GeometryReader { geometry in
            ScrollView(Axis.Set.horizontal) {
                HStack(alignment: .center) {
                    ForEach(0..<8) { _ in
                        Text("")
                    }
                }.frame(width: geometry.size.width, height: 50)
            }
        }
    }
}

How to convert column with dtype as object to string in Pandas Dataframe

since strings data types have variable length, it is by default stored as object dtype. If you want to store them as string type, you can do something like this.

df['column'] = df['column'].astype('|S80') #where the max length is set at 80 bytes,

or alternatively

df['column'] = df['column'].astype('|S') # which will by default set the length to the max len it encounters

Filter Excel pivot table using VBA

In Excel 2007 onwards, you can use the much simpler code using a more precise reference:

dim pvt as PivotTable
dim pvtField as PivotField

set pvt = ActiveSheet.PivotTables("PivotTable2")
set pvtField = pvt.PivotFields("SavedFamilyCode")

pvtField.PivotFilters.Add xlCaptionEquals, Value1:= "K123223"

How do I style radio buttons with images - laughing smiley for good, sad smiley for bad?

Here's a pure HTML+CSS solution.

HTML:

<div class="image-radio">
  <input type="radio" value="true" checked="checked" name="ice_cream" id="ice_cream_vanilla">
  <label for="ice_cream_vanilla">Vanilla</label>
  <input type="radio" value="true" name="ice_cream" id="ice_cream_chocolate">
  <label for="ice_cream_chocolate">Chocolate</label>
</div>

SCSS:

  // use an image instead of the native radio widget
.image-radio {
  input[type=radio] {
    display: none;
  }
  input[type=radio] + label {
    background: asset-url('icons/choice-unchecked.svg') no-repeat left;
    padding-left: 2rem;
  }
  input[type=radio]:checked + label {
    background: asset-url('icons/choice-checked.svg') no-repeat left;
  }
}

How to use cURL to get jSON data and decode the data?

you can also use

$result = curl_exec($ch);
return response()->json(json_decode($result));

Peak detection in a 2D array

Perhaps you can use something like Gaussian Mixture Models. Here's a Python package for doing GMMs (just did a Google search) http://www.ar.media.kyoto-u.ac.jp/members/david/softwares/em/

AngularJS format JSON string output

In addition to the angular json filter already mentioned, there is also the angular toJson() function.

angular.toJson(obj, pretty);

The second param of this function lets you switch on pretty printing and set the number of spaces to use.

If set to true, the JSON output will contain newlines and whitespace. If set to an integer, the JSON output will contain that many spaces per indentation.

(default: 2)

Javascript querySelector vs. getElementById

"Better" is subjective.

querySelector is the newer feature.

getElementById is better supported than querySelector.

querySelector is better supported than getElementsByClassName.

querySelector lets you find elements with rules that can't be expressed with getElementById and getElementsByClassName

You need to pick the appropriate tool for any given task.

(In the above, for querySelector read querySelector / querySelectorAll).

Css height in percent not working

This is what you need in the CSS:

html, body {
    height: 100%;
    width: 100%;
    margin: 0;
}

Expand and collapse with angular js

You can solve this fully in the html:

<div>
  <input ng-model=collapse type=checkbox>Title
  <div ng-show=collapse>
     Only shown when checkbox is clicked
  </div>
</div>

This also works well with ng-repeat since it will create a local scope for each member.

<table>
  <tbody ng-repeat='m in members'>
    <tr>
       <td><input type=checkbox ng-model=collapse></td>
       <td>{{m.title}}</td>
    </tr>
    <tr ng-show=collapse>
      <td> </td>
      <td>{{ m.content }}</td>
    </tr>
  </tbody>
</table>

Be aware that even though a repeat has its own scope, initially it will inherit the value from collapse from super scopes. This allows you to set the initial value in one place but it can be surprising.

You can of course restyle the checkbox. See http://jsfiddle.net/azD5m/5/

Updated fiddle: http://jsfiddle.net/azD5m/374/ Original fiddle used closing </input> tags to add the HTML text label instead of using <label> tags.

Why does C++ code for testing the Collatz conjecture run faster than hand-written assembly?

For the Collatz problem, you can get a significant boost in performance by caching the "tails". This is a time/memory trade-off. See: memoization (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memoization). You could also look into dynamic programming solutions for other time/memory trade-offs.

Example python implementation:

import sys

inner_loop = 0

def collatz_sequence(N, cache):
    global inner_loop

    l = [ ]
    stop = False
    n = N

    tails = [ ]

    while not stop:
        inner_loop += 1
        tmp = n
        l.append(n)
        if n <= 1:
            stop = True
        elif n in cache:
            stop = True
        elif n % 2:
            n = 3*n + 1
        else:
            n = n // 2
        tails.append((tmp, len(l)))

    for key, offset in tails:
        if not key in cache:
            cache[key] = l[offset:]

    return l

def gen_sequence(l, cache):
    for elem in l:
        yield elem
        if elem in cache:
            yield from gen_sequence(cache[elem], cache)
            raise StopIteration

if __name__ == "__main__":
    le_cache = {}

    for n in range(1, 4711, 5):
        l = collatz_sequence(n, le_cache)
        print("{}: {}".format(n, len(list(gen_sequence(l, le_cache)))))

    print("inner_loop = {}".format(inner_loop))

How do I clear a C++ array?

Should you want to clear the array with something other than a value, std::file wont cut it; instead I found std::generate useful. e.g. I had a vector of lists I wanted to initialize

std::generate(v.begin(), v.end(), [] () { return std::list<X>(); });

You can do ints too e.g.

std::generate(v.begin(), v.end(), [n = 0] () mutable { return n++; });

or just

std::generate(v.begin(), v.end(), [] (){ return 0; });

but I imagine std::fill is faster for the simplest case

IPython/Jupyter Problems saving notebook as PDF

This Python script has GUI to select with explorer a Ipython Notebook you want to convert to pdf. The approach with wkhtmltopdf is the only approach I found works well and provides high quality pdfs. Other approaches described here are problematic, syntax highlighting does not work or graphs are messed up.

You'll need to install wkhtmltopdf: http://wkhtmltopdf.org/downloads.html

and Nbconvert

pip install nbconvert
# OR
conda install nbconvert

Python script

# Script adapted from CloudCray
# Original Source: https://gist.github.com/CloudCray/994dd361dece0463f64a

import os
from Tkinter import Tk
from tkFileDialog import askopenfilename

WKHTMLTOPDF_PATH = "C:/Program Files/wkhtmltopdf/bin/wkhtmltopdf"  # or wherever you keep it

def export_to_html(filename):
    cmd = 'ipython nbconvert --to html "{0}"'
    subprocess.call(cmd.format(filename), shell=True)
    return filename.replace(".ipynb", ".html")

def convert_to_pdf(filename):
    cmd = '"{0}" "{1}" "{2}"'.format(WKHTMLTOPDF_PATH, filename, filename.replace(".html", ".pdf"))
    subprocess.call(cmd, shell=True)
    return filename.replace(".html", ".pdf")

def export_to_pdf(filename):
    fn = export_to_html(filename)
    return convert_to_pdf(fn)

def main():
    print("Export IPython notebook to PDF")
    print("    Please select a notebook:")

    Tk().withdraw() # Starts in folder from which it is started, keep the root window from appearing
    x = askopenfilename() # show an "Open" dialog box and return the path to the selected file
    x = str(x.split("/")[-1])

    print(x)

    if not x:
        print("No notebook selected.")
        return 0

Find and extract a number from a string

You can also try this

string.Join(null,System.Text.RegularExpressions.Regex.Split(expr, "[^\\d]"));

reading HttpwebResponse json response, C#

First you need an object

public class MyObject {
  public string Id {get;set;}
  public string Text {get;set;}
  ...
}

Then in here

    using (var twitpicResponse = (HttpWebResponse)request.GetResponse()) {

        using (var reader = new StreamReader(twitpicResponse.GetResponseStream())) {
            JavaScriptSerializer js = new JavaScriptSerializer();
            var objText = reader.ReadToEnd();
            MyObject myojb = (MyObject)js.Deserialize(objText,typeof(MyObject));
        }

    }

I haven't tested with the hierarchical object you have, but this should give you access to the properties you want.

"Primary Filegroup is Full" in SQL Server 2008 Standard for no apparent reason

I also ran into the same problem, where the initial dtabase size is set to 4Gb and autogrowth is set by 1Mb. The virtual encrypted TrueCrypt drive that the databse was on, seemed to have plenty of space.

I changed a couple of (the above) things:

  • I turned the Windows service for Sql Server Express from automatic to manual, so only the 'regular' Sql Server is running. (Even though I am running Sql Server 2008 R2 which should allow 10 GB.)
  • I changed the autogrowth from 1 MB to 10%
  • I changed the autogrowth increment-size from 10% to 1000 MB
  • I defragmented the drive
  • I shrank the database:
    • manually DBCC SHRINKDATABASE('...')
    • automatically right click on database | "properties" | "Auto Shrink" | "Truncate log on check point")

All to little avail (I could insert some more records, but soon ran into the same problem). The pagefile mentioned by Tobbi, made me try a larger virtual drive. (Even though my drive should not contain any such system files, since I run without it being mounted a lot of the time.)

  • I made a new larger virtual drive with TrueCrypt

When making this, I ran into a TrueCrypt-question, if I am going to store files larger than 4gb (as shown in this SuperUser question).

  • I told TrueCrypt I would store files larger than 4 GB

After these last two I was doing fine, and I am assuming this last one did the trick. I think TrueCrypt chooses an exfat file system (as described here), which limits all files to 4GB. (So I probably did not need to enlarge the drive after all, but I did anyway.)

This is probably a very rare border case, but maybe it is of help to somebody.

Why can't I change my input value in React even with the onChange listener

Unlike in the case of Angular, in React.js you need to update the state manually. You can do something like this:

<input
    className="form-control"
    type="text" value={this.state.name}
    id={'todoName' + this.props.id}
    onChange={e => this.onTodoChange(e.target.value)}
/>

And then in the function:

onTodoChange(value){
        this.setState({
             name: value
        });
    }

Also, you can set the initial state in the constructor of the component:

  constructor (props) {
    super(props);
    this.state = {
        updatable: false,
        name: props.name,
        status: props.status
    };
  }

How can I get the iOS 7 default blue color programmatically?

From iOS 7 there is an API and you can get (and set) the tint color with:

self.view.tintColor

Or if you need the CGColor:

self.view.tintColor.CGColor

jQuery's .click - pass parameters to user function

I had success using .on() like so:

$('.leadtoscore').on('click', {event_type: 'shot'}, add_event);

Then inside the add_event function you get access to 'shot' like this:

event.data.event_type

See the .on() documentation for more info, where they provide the following example:

function myHandler( event ) {
  alert( event.data.foo );
}
$( "p" ).on( "click", { foo: "bar" }, myHandler );

How to validate email id in angularJs using ng-pattern

Spend some time to make it working for me.

Requirement:

How to use ng-repeat without an html element

You might want to flatten the data within your controller:

function MyCtrl ($scope) {
  $scope.myData = [[1,2,3], [4,5,6], [7,8,9]];
  $scope.flattened = function () {
    var flat = [];
    $scope.myData.forEach(function (item) {
      flat.concat(item);
    }
    return flat;
  }
}

And then in the HTML:

<table>
  <tbody>
    <tr ng-repeat="item in flattened()"><td>{{item}}</td></tr>
  </tbody>
</table>

Stop setInterval

we can easily stop the set interval by calling clear interval

var count = 0 , i = 5;
var vary = function intervalFunc() {
  count++;
      console.log(count);
    console.log('hello boy');
    if (count == 10) {
      clearInterval(this);
    }
}

  setInterval(vary, 1500);

Add a CSS border on hover without moving the element

Add a border to the regular item, the same color as the background, so that it cannot be seen. That way the item has a border: 1px whether it is being hovered or not.

Is there a way to automatically build the package.json file for Node.js projects

First off, run

npm init

...will ask you a few questions (read this first) about your project/package and then generate a package.json file for you.

Then, once you have a package.json file, use

npm install <pkg> --save

or

npm install <pkg> --save-dev

...to install a dependency and automatically append it to your package.json's dependencies list.

(Note: You may need to manually tweak the version ranges for your dependencies.)

Parse json string to find and element (key / value)

Use a JSON parser, like JSON.NET

string json = "{ \"Atlantic/Canary\": \"GMT Standard Time\", \"Europe/Lisbon\": \"GMT Standard Time\", \"Antarctica/Mawson\": \"West Asia Standard Time\", \"Etc/GMT+3\": \"SA Eastern Standard Time\", \"Etc/GMT+2\": \"UTC-02\", \"Etc/GMT+1\": \"Cape Verde Standard Time\", \"Etc/GMT+7\": \"US Mountain Standard Time\", \"Etc/GMT+6\": \"Central America Standard Time\", \"Etc/GMT+5\": \"SA Pacific Standard Time\", \"Etc/GMT+4\": \"SA Western Standard Time\", \"Pacific/Wallis\": \"UTC+12\", \"Europe/Skopje\": \"Central European Standard Time\", \"America/Coral_Harbour\": \"SA Pacific Standard Time\", \"Asia/Dhaka\": \"Bangladesh Standard Time\", \"America/St_Lucia\": \"SA Western Standard Time\", \"Asia/Kashgar\": \"China Standard Time\", \"America/Phoenix\": \"US Mountain Standard Time\", \"Asia/Kuwait\": \"Arab Standard Time\" }";
var data = (JObject)JsonConvert.DeserializeObject(json);
string timeZone = data["Atlantic/Canary"].Value<string>();

How do I get class name in PHP?

I think it's important to mention little difference between 'self' and 'static' in PHP as 'best answer' uses 'static' which can give confusing result to some people.

<?php
class X {
    function getStatic() {
        // gets THIS class of instance of object
        // that extends class in which is definied function
        return static::class;
    }
    function getSelf() {
        // gets THIS class of class in which function is declared
        return self::class;
    }
}

class Y extends X {
}
class Z extends Y {
}

$x = new X();
$y = new Y();
$z = new Z();

echo 'X:' . $x->getStatic() . ', ' . $x->getSelf() .
    ', Y: ' . $y->getStatic() . ', ' . $y->getSelf() .
    ', Z: ' . $z->getStatic() . ', ' . $z->getSelf();

Results:

X: X, X
Y: Y, X
Z: Z, X

Getting session value in javascript

You can access your session variable like '<%= Session["VariableName"]%>'

the text in single quotes will give session value. 1)

<script>
var session ='<%= Session["VariableName"]%>'
</script>

2) you can take a hidden field and assign value at server;

hiddenfield.value= session["xyz"].tostring();

//and in script you access the hiddenfield like

alert(document.getElementbyId("hiddenfield").value);

What is the difference between GitHub and gist?

GitHub is the entire site. Gists are a particular service offered on that site, namely code snippets akin to pastebin. However, everything is driven by git revision control, so gists also have complete revision histories.

How to Generate Unique Public and Private Key via RSA

When you use a code like this:

using (var rsa = new RSACryptoServiceProvider(1024))
{
   // Do something with the key...
   // Encrypt, export, etc.
}

.NET (actually Windows) stores your key in a persistent key container forever. The container is randomly generated by .NET

This means:

  1. Any random RSA/DSA key you have EVER generated for the purpose of protecting data, creating custom X.509 certificate, etc. may have been exposed without your awareness in the Windows file system. Accessible by anyone who has access to your account.

  2. Your disk is being slowly filled with data. Normally not a big concern but it depends on your application (e.g. it might generates hundreds of keys every minute).

To resolve these issues:

using (var rsa = new RSACryptoServiceProvider(1024))
{
   try
   {
      // Do something with the key...
      // Encrypt, export, etc.
   }
   finally
   {
      rsa.PersistKeyInCsp = false;
   }
}

Google Gson - deserialize list<class> object? (generic type)

Here is a solution that works with a dynamically defined type. The trick is creating the proper type of of array using Array.newInstance().

    public static <T> List<T> fromJsonList(String json, Class<T> clazz) {
    Object [] array = (Object[])java.lang.reflect.Array.newInstance(clazz, 0);
    array = gson.fromJson(json, array.getClass());
    List<T> list = new ArrayList<T>();
    for (int i=0 ; i<array.length ; i++)
        list.add(clazz.cast(array[i]));
    return list;
}

How to create a simple http proxy in node.js?

Your code doesn't work for binary files because they can't be cast to strings in the data event handler. If you need to manipulate binary files you'll need to use a buffer. Sorry, I do not have an example of using a buffer because in my case I needed to manipulate HTML files. I just check the content type and then for text/html files update them as needed:

app.get('/*', function(clientRequest, clientResponse) {
  var options = {
    hostname: 'google.com',
    port: 80,
    path: clientRequest.url,
    method: 'GET'
  };

  var googleRequest = http.request(options, function(googleResponse) {
    var body = '';

    if (String(googleResponse.headers['content-type']).indexOf('text/html') !== -1) {
      googleResponse.on('data', function(chunk) {
        body += chunk;
      });

      googleResponse.on('end', function() {
        // Make changes to HTML files when they're done being read.
        body = body.replace(/google.com/gi, host + ':' + port);
        body = body.replace(
          /<\/body>/,
          '<script src="http://localhost:3000/new-script.js" type="text/javascript"></script></body>'
        );

        clientResponse.writeHead(googleResponse.statusCode, googleResponse.headers);
        clientResponse.end(body);
      });
    }
    else {
      googleResponse.pipe(clientResponse, {
        end: true
      });
    }
  });

  googleRequest.end();
});

What Vim command(s) can be used to quote/unquote words?

Here's some mapping that could help:

:nnoremap <Leader>q" ciw""<Esc>P
:nnoremap <Leader>q' ciw''<Esc>P
:nnoremap <Leader>qd daW"=substitute(@@,"'\\\|\"","","g")<CR>P

If you haven't changed the mapleader variable, then activate the mapping with \q" \q' or \qd. They add double quote around the word under the cursor, single quote around the word under the cursor, delete any quotes around the word under the cursor respectively.

Splitting String with delimiter

You can also do:

Super-simple example of C# observer/observable with delegates

Here's a simple example:

public class ObservableClass
{
    private Int32 _Value;

    public Int32 Value
    {
        get { return _Value; }
        set
        {
            if (_Value != value)
            {
                _Value = value;
                OnValueChanged();
            }
        }
    }

    public event EventHandler ValueChanged;

    protected void OnValueChanged()
    {
        if (ValueChanged != null)
            ValueChanged(this, EventArgs.Empty);
    }
}

public class ObserverClass
{
    public ObserverClass(ObservableClass observable)
    {
        observable.ValueChanged += TheValueChanged;
    }

    private void TheValueChanged(Object sender, EventArgs e)
    {
        Console.Out.WriteLine("Value changed to " +
            ((ObservableClass)sender).Value);
    }
}

public class Program
{
    public static void Main()
    {
        ObservableClass observable = new ObservableClass();
        ObserverClass observer = new ObserverClass(observable);
        observable.Value = 10;
    }
}

Note:

  • This violates a rule in that I don't unhook the observer from the observable, this is perhaps good enough for this simple example, but make sure you don't keep observers hanging off of your events like that. A way to handle this would be to make ObserverClass IDisposable, and let the .Dispose method do the opposite of the code in the constructor
  • No error-checking performed, at least a null-check should be done in the constructor of the ObserverClass

Android - save/restore fragment state

Android fragment has some advantages and some disadvantages. The most disadvantage of the fragment is that when you want to use a fragment you create it ones. When you use it, onCreateView of the fragment is called for each time. If you want to keep state of the components in the fragment you must save fragment state and yout must load its state in the next shown. This make fragment view a bit slow and weird.

I have found a solution and I have used this solution: "Everything is great. Every body can try".

When first time onCreateView is being run, create view as a global variable. When second time you call this fragment onCreateView is called again you can return this global view. The fragment component state will be kept.

View view;

@Override
public View onCreateView(LayoutInflater inflater,
        @Nullable ViewGroup container, @Nullable Bundle savedInstanceState) {
    setActionBar(null);
    if (view != null) {
        if ((ViewGroup)view.getParent() != null)
            ((ViewGroup)view.getParent()).removeView(view);
        return view;
    }
    view = inflater.inflate(R.layout.mylayout, container, false);
}

gnuplot : plotting data from multiple input files in a single graph

replot

This is another way to get multiple plots at once:

plot file1.data
replot file2.data

Truncate with condition

As a response to your question: "i want to reset all the data and keep last 30 days inside the table."

you can create an event. Check https://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.7/en/event-scheduler.html

For example:

CREATE EVENT DeleteExpiredLog
ON SCHEDULE EVERY 1 DAY
DO
DELETE FROM log WHERE date < DATE_SUB(NOW(), INTERVAL 30 DAY);

Will run a daily cleanup in your table, keeping the last 30 days data available

sort csv by column

The reader acts like a generator. On a file with some fake data:

>>> import sys, csv
>>> data = csv.reader(open('data.csv'),delimiter=';')
>>> data
<_csv.reader object at 0x1004a11a0>
>>> data.next()
['a', ' b', ' c']
>>> data.next()
['x', ' y', ' z']
>>> data.next()
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "<stdin>", line 1, in <module>
StopIteration

Using operator.itemgetter as Ignacio suggests:

>>> data = csv.reader(open('data.csv'),delimiter=';')
>>> import operator
>>> sortedlist = sorted(data, key=operator.itemgetter(2), reverse=True)
>>> sortedlist
[['x', ' y', ' z'], ['a', ' b', ' c']]

Create a pointer to two-dimensional array

You can always avoid fiddling around with the compiler by declaring the array as linear and doing the (row,col) to array index calculation by yourself.

static uint8_t l_matrix[200];

void test(int row, int col, uint8_t val)

{

   uint8_t* matrix_ptr = l_matrix;
   matrix_ptr [col+y*row] = val; // to assign a value

}

this is what the compiler would have done anyway.

What is the difference between Serialization and Marshaling?

Basics First

Byte Stream - Stream is sequence of data. Input stream - reads data from source. Output stream - writes data to desitnation. Java Byte Streams are used to perform input/output byte by byte(8bits at a time). A byte stream is suitable for processing raw data like binary files. Java Character Streams are used to perform input/output 2 bytes at a time, because Characters are stored using Unicode conventions in Java with 2 bytes for each character. Character stream is useful when we process(read/write) text files.

RMI(Remote Method Invocation) - an API that provides a mechanism to create distributed application in java. The RMI allows an object to invoke methods on an object running in another JVM.

Both Serialization and Marshalling are loosely used as synonyms. Here are few differences.

Serialization - Data members of an object is written to binary form or Byte Stream(and then can be written in file/memory/database etc). No information about data-types can be retained once object data members are written to binary form.

enter image description here

Marshalling - Object is serialized(to byte stream in binary format) with data-type + Codebase attached and then passed Remote Object(RMI). Marshalling will transform the data-type into a predetermined naming convention so that it can be reconstructed with respect to the initial data-type. enter image description here

So Serialization is part of Marshalling.

CodeBase is information that tells the receiver of Object where the implementation of this object can be found. Any program that thinks it might ever pass an object to another program that may not have seen it before must set the codebase, so that the receiver can know where to download the code from, if it doesn't have the code available locally. The receiver will, upon deserializing the object, fetch the codebase from it and load the code from that location. (Copied from @Nasir answer)

Serialization is almost like a stupid memory-dump of the memory used by the object(s), while Marshalling stores information about custom data-types.

In a way, Serialization performs marshalling with implematation of pass-by-value because no information of data-type is passed, just the primitive form is passed to byte stream.

Serialization may have some issues related to big-endian, small-endian if the stream is going from one OS to another if the different OS have different means of representing the same data. On the other hand, marshalling is perfectly fine to migrate between OS because the result is a higher-level representation.

Where does Vagrant download its .box files to?

To change the Path, you can set a new Path to an Enviroment-Variable named: VAGRANT_HOME

export VAGRANT_HOME=my/new/path/goes/here/

Thats maybe nice if you want to have those vagrant-Images on another HDD.

How can I get file extensions with JavaScript?

Newer Edit: Lots of things have changed since this question was initially posted - there's a lot of really good information in wallacer's revised answer as well as VisioN's excellent breakdown

Edit: Just because this is the accepted answer; wallacer's answer is indeed much better:

return filename.split('.').pop();

My old answer:

return /[^.]+$/.exec(filename);

Should do it.

Edit: In response to PhiLho's comment, use something like:

return (/[.]/.exec(filename)) ? /[^.]+$/.exec(filename) : undefined;

CSS filter: make color image with transparency white

To my knowledge, there is sadly no CSS filter to colorise an element (perhaps with the use of some SVG filter magic, but I'm somewhat unfamiliar with that) and even if that wasn't the case, filters are basically only supported by webkit browsers.

With that said, you could still work around this and use a canvas to modify your image. Basically, you can draw an image element onto a canvas and then loop through the pixels, modifying the respective RGBA values to the colour you want.

However, canvases do come with some restrictions. Most importantly, you have to make sure that the image src comes from the same domain as the page. Otherwise the browser won't allow you to read or modify the pixel data of the canvas.

Here's a JSFiddle changing the colour of the JSFiddle logo.

Implementing SearchView in action bar

SearchDialog or SearchWidget ?

When it comes to implement a search functionality there are two suggested approach by official Android Developer Documentation.
You can either use a SearchDialog or a SearchWidget.
I am going to explain the implementation of Search functionality using SearchWidget.

How to do it with Search widget ?

I will explain search functionality in a RecyclerView using SearchWidget. It's pretty straightforward.

Just follow these 5 Simple steps

1) Add searchView item in the menu

You can add SearchView can be added as actionView in menu using

app:useActionClass = "android.support.v7.widget.SearchView" .

<menu xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
   xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
   xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
   tools:context="rohksin.com.searchviewdemo.MainActivity">
   <item
       android:id="@+id/searchBar"
       app:showAsAction="always"
       app:actionViewClass="android.support.v7.widget.SearchView"
   />
</menu>

2) Set up SerchView Hint text, listener etc

You should initialize SearchView in the onCreateOptionsMenu(Menu menu) method.

  @Override
  public boolean onCreateOptionsMenu(Menu menu) {
     // Inflate the menu; this adds items to the action bar if it is present.
        getMenuInflater().inflate(R.menu.menu_main, menu);

        MenuItem searchItem = menu.findItem(R.id.searchBar);

        SearchView searchView = (SearchView) searchItem.getActionView();
        searchView.setQueryHint("Search People");
        searchView.setOnQueryTextListener(this);
        searchView.setIconified(false);

        return true;
   }

3) Implement SearchView.OnQueryTextListener in your Activity

OnQueryTextListener has two abstract methods

  1. onQueryTextSubmit(String query)
  2. onQueryTextChange(String newText

So your Activity skeleton would look like this

YourActivity extends AppCompatActivity implements SearchView.OnQueryTextListener{

     public boolean onQueryTextSubmit(String query)

     public boolean onQueryTextChange(String newText)

}

4) Implement SearchView.OnQueryTextListener

You can provide the implementation for the abstract methods like this

public boolean onQueryTextSubmit(String query) {

    // This method can be used when a query is submitted eg. creating search history using SQLite DB

    Toast.makeText(this, "Query Inserted", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();
    return true;
}

@Override
public boolean onQueryTextChange(String newText) {

    adapter.filter(newText);
    return true;
}

5) Write a filter method in your RecyclerView Adapter.

Most important part. You can write your own logic to perform search.
Here is mine. This snippet shows the list of Name which contains the text typed in the SearchView

public void filter(String queryText)
{
    list.clear();

    if(queryText.isEmpty())
    {
       list.addAll(copyList);
    }
    else
    {

       for(String name: copyList)
       {
           if(name.toLowerCase().contains(queryText.toLowerCase()))
           {
              list.add(name);
           }
       }

    }

   notifyDataSetChanged();
}

did you register the component correctly? For recursive components, make sure to provide the "name" option

Since you have applied different name for the components:

components: {
      'i-tabs' : Tabs,
      'i-tab-pane': Tabpane
    }

You also need to have same name while you export: (Check to name in your Tabpane component)

name: 'Tabpane'

From the error, what I can say is you have not defined the name in your component Tabpane. Make sure to verify the name and it should work fine with no error.

Write to UTF-8 file in Python

@S-Lott gives the right procedure, but expanding on the Unicode issues, the Python interpreter can provide more insights.

Jon Skeet is right (unusual) about the codecs module - it contains byte strings:

>>> import codecs
>>> codecs.BOM
'\xff\xfe'
>>> codecs.BOM_UTF8
'\xef\xbb\xbf'
>>>

Picking another nit, the BOM has a standard Unicode name, and it can be entered as:

>>> bom= u"\N{ZERO WIDTH NO-BREAK SPACE}"
>>> bom
u'\ufeff'

It is also accessible via unicodedata:

>>> import unicodedata
>>> unicodedata.lookup('ZERO WIDTH NO-BREAK SPACE')
u'\ufeff'
>>>

simple way to do it is reverse the text and then find the first slash as normal. Now you can get the length of the full text minus this number.

Like so:

=LEN(A1)-FIND("/",REVERSETEXT(A1),1)+1

This returns 21, the position of the last /

Removing all non-numeric characters from string in Python

Just to add another option to the mix, there are several useful constants within the string module. While more useful in other cases, they can be used here.

>>> from string import digits
>>> ''.join(c for c in "abc123def456" if c in digits)
'123456'

There are several constants in the module, including:

  • ascii_letters (abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyzABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ)
  • hexdigits (0123456789abcdefABCDEF)

If you are using these constants heavily, it can be worthwhile to covert them to a frozenset. That enables O(1) lookups, rather than O(n), where n is the length of the constant for the original strings.

>>> digits = frozenset(digits)
>>> ''.join(c for c in "abc123def456" if c in digits)
'123456'

making a paragraph in html contain a text from a file

I would use javascript for this.

var txtFile = new XMLHttpRequest();
txtFile.open("GET", "http://my.remote.url/myremotefile.txt", true);
txtFile.onreadystatechange = function() {
  if (txtFile.readyState === 4 && txtFile.status == 200) {
     allText = txtFile.responseText;
  }
document.getElementById('your div id').innerHTML = allText;

This is just a code sample, would need tweaking for all browsers, etc.

VMWare Player vs VMWare Workstation

VMWare Player can be seen as a free, closed-source competitor to Virtualbox.

Initially VMWare Player (up to version 2.5) was intended to operate on fixed virtual operating systems (e.g. play back pre-created virtual disks).

Many advanced features such as vsphere are probably not required by most users, and VMWare Player will provide the same core technologies and 3D acceleration as the ESX Workstation solution.

From my experience VMWare Player 5 is faster than Virtualbox 4.2 RC3 and has better SMP performance. Both are great however, each with its own unique advantages. Both are somewhat lacking in 2D rendering performance.

See the official FAQ, and a feature comparison table.

Can I execute a function after setState is finished updating?

Making setState return a Promise

In addition to passing a callback to setState() method, you can wrap it around an async function and use the then() method -- which in some cases might produce a cleaner code:

(async () => new Promise(resolve => this.setState({dummy: true}), resolve)()
    .then(() => { console.log('state:', this.state) });

And here you can take this one more step ahead and make a reusable setState function that in my opinion is better than the above version:

const promiseState = async state =>
    new Promise(resolve => this.setState(state, resolve));

promiseState({...})
    .then(() => promiseState({...})
    .then(() => {
        ...  // other code
        return promiseState({...});
    })
    .then(() => {...});

This works fine in React 16.4, but I haven't tested it in earlier versions of React yet.

Also worth mentioning that keeping your callback code in componentDidUpdate method is a better practice in most -- probably all, cases.

A table name as a variable

For static queries, like the one in your question, table names and column names need to be static.

For dynamic queries, you should generate the full SQL dynamically, and use sp_executesql to execute it.

Here is an example of a script used to compare data between the same tables of different databases:

Static query:

SELECT * FROM [DB_ONE].[dbo].[ACTY]
EXCEPT
SELECT * FROM [DB_TWO].[dbo].[ACTY]

Since I want to easily change the name of table and schema, I have created this dynamic query:

declare @schema varchar(50)
declare @table varchar(50)
declare @query nvarchar(500)

set @schema = 'dbo'
set @table = 'ACTY'

set @query = 'SELECT * FROM [DB_ONE].[' + @schema + '].[' + @table + '] EXCEPT SELECT * FROM [DB_TWO].[' + @schema + '].[' + @table + ']'

EXEC sp_executesql @query

Since dynamic queries have many details that need to be considered and they are hard to maintain, I recommend that you read: The curse and blessings of dynamic SQL

new Date(Date.now())   // Mon Jan 19 2015 20:02:55 GMT-0500 (Eastern Standard Time)
new Date($.now());     // Mon Jan 19 2015 20:02:55 GMT-0500 (Eastern Standard Time)

..and if you want the time formatted in hh-mm-ss:

var now = new Date(Date.now());
var formatted = now.getHours() + ":" + now.getMinutes() + ":" + now.getSeconds();
// 20:10:58

Extract time from date String

I'm assuming your first string is an actual Date object, please correct me if I'm wrong. If so, use the SimpleDateFormat object: http://download.oracle.com/javase/6/docs/api/java/text/SimpleDateFormat.html. The format string "h:mm" should take care of it.

How to change column datatype from character to numeric in PostgreSQL 8.4

Step 1: Add new column with integer or numeric as per your requirement

Step 2: Populate data from varchar column to numeric column

Step 3: drop varchar column

Step 4: change new numeric column name as per old varchar column

Getting multiple values with scanf()

Could do this, but then the user has to separate the numbers by a space:

#include "stdio.h"

int main()
{
    int minx, x, y, z;

    printf("Enter four ints: ");
    scanf( "%i %i %i %i", &minx, &x, &y, &z);

    printf("You wrote: %i %i %i %i", minx, x, y, z);
}

dropping infinite values from dataframes in pandas?

With option context, this is possible without permanently setting use_inf_as_na. For example:

with pd.option_context('mode.use_inf_as_na', True):
    df = df.dropna(subset=['col1', 'col2'], how='all')

Of course it can be set to treat inf as NaN permanently with

pd.set_option('use_inf_as_na', True)

For older versions, replace use_inf_as_na with use_inf_as_null.

Parameterize an SQL IN clause

I'd approach this by default with passing a table valued function (that returns a table from a string) to the IN condition.

Here is the code for the UDF (I got it from Stack Overflow somewhere, i can't find the source right now)

CREATE FUNCTION [dbo].[Split] (@sep char(1), @s varchar(8000))
RETURNS table
AS
RETURN (
    WITH Pieces(pn, start, stop) AS (
      SELECT 1, 1, CHARINDEX(@sep, @s)
      UNION ALL
      SELECT pn + 1, stop + 1, CHARINDEX(@sep, @s, stop + 1)
      FROM Pieces
      WHERE stop > 0
    )
    SELECT
      SUBSTRING(@s, start, CASE WHEN stop > 0 THEN stop-start ELSE 512 END) AS s
    FROM Pieces
  )

Once you got this your code would be as simple as this:

select * from Tags
where Name in (select s from dbo.split(';','ruby;rails;scruffy;rubyonrails'))
order by Count desc

Unless you have a ridiculously long string, this should work well with the table index.

If needed you can insert it into a temp table, index it, then run a join...

Use SELECT inside an UPDATE query

I know this topic is old, but I thought I could add something to it.

I could not make an Update with Select query work using SQL in MS Access 2010. I used Tomalak's suggestion to make this work. I had a screenshot, but am apparently too much of a newb on this site to be able to post it.

I was able to do this using the Query Design tool, but even as I was looking at a confirmed successful update query, Access was not able to show me the SQL that made it happen. So I could not make this work with SQL code alone.

I created and saved my select query as a separate query. In the Query Design tool, I added the table I'm trying to update the the select query I had saved (I put the unique key in the select query so it had a link between them). Just as Tomalak had suggested, I changed the Query Type to Update. I then just had to choose the fields (and designate the table) I was trying to update. In the "Update To" fields, I typed in the name of the fields from the select query I had brought in.

This format was successful and updated the original table.

What is the best way to repeatedly execute a function every x seconds?

The main difference between that and cron is that an exception will kill the daemon for good. You might want to wrap with an exception catcher and logger.

MessageBodyWriter not found for media type=application/json

You have to convert the response to JSON using Gson.toJson(object).

For example:

Differences between MySQL and SQL Server

Anyone have any good experience with a "port" of a database from SQL Server to MySQL?

This should be fairly painful! I switched versions of MySQL from 4.x to 5.x and various statements wouldn't work anymore as they used to. The query analyzer was "improved" so statements which previously were tuned for performance would not work anymore as expected.

The lesson learned from working with a 500GB MySQL database: It's a subtle topic and anything else but trivial!

How to deploy a Java Web Application (.war) on tomcat?

  • copy the .war file in the webapps folder
  • upload the file using the manager application - http://host:port/manager. You will have to setup some users beforehand.
  • (not recommended, but working) - manually extract the .war file as a .zip archive and place the extracted files in webapps/webappname

Sometimes administrators configure tomcat so that war files are deployed outside the tomcat folder. Even in that case:

After you have it deployed (check the /logs dir for any problems), it should be accessible via: http://host:port/yourwebappname/. So in your case, one of those:

http://bilgin.ath.cx/TestWebApp/
http://bilgin.ath.cx:8080/TestWebApp/

If you don't manage by doing the above and googling - turn to your support. There might be an alternative port, or there might be something wrong with the application (and therefore in the logs)

How do I import a .bak file into Microsoft SQL Server 2012?

You can use the following script if you don't wish to use Wizard;

RESTORE DATABASE myDB
FROM  DISK = N'C:\BackupDB.bak'
WITH  REPLACE,RECOVERY,
MOVE N'HRNET' TO N'C:\MSSQL\Data\myDB.mdf',
MOVE N'HRNET_LOG' TO N'C:\MSSQL\Data\myDB.ldf'

The Import android.support.v7 cannot be resolved

I fixed it adding these lines in the build.grandle (App Module)

dependencies {
   compile fileTree(dir: 'libs', include: ['*.jar']) //it was there
   compile "com.android.support:support-v4:21.0.+" //Added
   compile "com.android.support:appcompat-v7:21.0.+" //Added
}

Nested ifelse statement

If you are using any spreadsheet application there is a basic function if() with syntax:

if(<condition>, <yes>, <no>)

Syntax is exactly the same for ifelse() in R:

ifelse(<condition>, <yes>, <no>)

The only difference to if() in spreadsheet application is that R ifelse() is vectorized (takes vectors as input and return vector on output). Consider the following comparison of formulas in spreadsheet application and in R for an example where we would like to compare if a > b and return 1 if yes and 0 if not.

In spreadsheet:

  A  B C
1 3  1 =if(A1 > B1, 1, 0)
2 2  2 =if(A2 > B2, 1, 0)
3 1  3 =if(A3 > B3, 1, 0)

In R:

> a <- 3:1; b <- 1:3
> ifelse(a > b, 1, 0)
[1] 1 0 0

ifelse() can be nested in many ways:

ifelse(<condition>, <yes>, ifelse(<condition>, <yes>, <no>))

ifelse(<condition>, ifelse(<condition>, <yes>, <no>), <no>)

ifelse(<condition>,
       ifelse(<condition>, <yes>, <no>),
       ifelse(<condition>, <yes>, <no>)
      )

ifelse(<condition>, <yes>,
       ifelse(<condition>, <yes>,
              ifelse(<condition>, <yes>, <no>)
             )
       )

To calculate column idnat2 you can:

df <- read.table(header=TRUE, text="
idnat idbp idnat2
french mainland mainland
french colony overseas
french overseas overseas
foreign foreign foreign"
)

with(df,
     ifelse(idnat=="french",
       ifelse(idbp %in% c("overseas","colony"),"overseas","mainland"),"foreign")
     )

R Documentation

What is the condition has length > 1 and only the first element will be used? Let's see:

> # What is first condition really testing?
> with(df, idnat=="french")
[1]  TRUE  TRUE  TRUE FALSE
> # This is result of vectorized function - equality of all elements in idnat and
> # string "french" is tested.
> # Vector of logical values is returned (has the same length as idnat)
> df$idnat2 <- with(df,
+   if(idnat=="french"){
+   idnat2 <- "xxx"
+   }
+   )
Warning message:
In if (idnat == "french") { :
  the condition has length > 1 and only the first element will be used
> # Note that the first element of comparison is TRUE and that's whay we get:
> df
    idnat     idbp idnat2
1  french mainland    xxx
2  french   colony    xxx
3  french overseas    xxx
4 foreign  foreign    xxx
> # There is really logic in it, you have to get used to it

Can I still use if()? Yes, you can, but the syntax is not so cool :)

test <- function(x) {
  if(x=="french") {
    "french"
  } else{
    "not really french"
  }
}

apply(array(df[["idnat"]]),MARGIN=1, FUN=test)

If you are familiar with SQL, you can also use CASE statement in sqldf package.

How do I disable TextBox using JavaScript?

Form elements can be accessed via the form's DOM element by name, not by "id" value. Give your form elements names if you want to access them like that, or else access them directly by "id" value:

document.getElementById("color").disabled = true;

edit — oh also, as pointed out by others, it's just "text", not "TextBox", for the "type" attribute.

You might want to invest a little time in reading some front-end development tutorials.

How to modify existing XML file with XmlDocument and XmlNode in C#

You need to do something like this:

// instantiate XmlDocument and load XML from file
XmlDocument doc = new XmlDocument();
doc.Load(@"D:\test.xml");

// get a list of nodes - in this case, I'm selecting all <AID> nodes under
// the <GroupAIDs> node - change to suit your needs
XmlNodeList aNodes = doc.SelectNodes("/Equipment/DataCollections/GroupAIDs/AID");

// loop through all AID nodes
foreach (XmlNode aNode in aNodes)
{
   // grab the "id" attribute
   XmlAttribute idAttribute = aNode.Attributes["id"];

   // check if that attribute even exists...
   if (idAttribute != null)
   {
      // if yes - read its current value
      string currentValue = idAttribute.Value;

      // here, you can now decide what to do - for demo purposes,
      // I just set the ID value to a fixed value if it was empty before
      if (string.IsNullOrEmpty(currentValue))
      {
         idAttribute.Value = "515";
      }
   }
}

// save the XmlDocument back to disk
doc.Save(@"D:\test2.xml");

Global javascript variable inside document.ready

JavaScript has Function-Level variable scope which means you will have to declare your variable outside $(document).ready() function.

Or alternatively to make your variable to have global scope, simply dont use var keyword before it like shown below. However generally this is considered bad practice because it pollutes the global scope but it is up to you to decide.

$(document).ready(function() {
   intro = null; // it is in global scope now

Sending SMS from PHP

Clickatell is a popular SMS gateway. It works in 200+ countries.

Their API offers a choice of connection options via: HTTP/S, SMPP, SMTP, FTP, XML, SOAP. Any of these options can be used from php.

The HTTP/S method is as simple as this:

http://api.clickatell.com/http/sendmsg?to=NUMBER&msg=Message+Body+Here

The SMTP method consists of sending a plain-text e-mail to: [email protected], with the following body:

Installing Tomcat 7 as Service on Windows Server 2008

I have spent a couple of hours looking for the magic configuration to get Tomcat 7 running as a service on Windows Server 2008... no luck.

I do have a solution though.

My install of Tomcat 7 works just fine if I just jump into a console window and run...

C:\apache-tomcat-7.0.26\bin\start.bat

At this point another console window pops up and tails the logs (tail meaning show the server logs as they happen).

SOLUTION

Run the start.bat file as a Scheduled Task.

  1. Start Menu > Accessories > System Tools > Task Scheduler

  2. In the Actions Window: Create Basic Task...

  3. Name the task something like "Start Tomcat 7" or something that makes sense a year from now.

  4. Click Next >

  5. Trigger should be set to "When the computer starts"

  6. Click Next >

  7. Action should be set to "Start a program"

  8. Click Next >

  9. Program/script: should be set to the location of the startup.bat file.

  10. Click Next >

  11. Click Finish

  12. IF YOUR SERVER IS NOT BEING USED: Reboot your server to test this functionality

How to change a PG column to NULLABLE TRUE?

Load arrayList data into JTable

You can do something like what i did with my List< Future< String > > or any other Arraylist, Type returned from other class called PingScan that returns List> because it implements service executor. Anyway the code down note that you can use foreach and retrieve data from the List.

 PingScan p = new PingScan();
 List<Future<String>> scanResult = p.checkThisIP(jFormattedTextField1.getText(), jFormattedTextField2.getText());
                for (final Future<String> f : scanResult) {
                    try {
                        if (f.get() instanceof String) {
                            String ip = f.get();
                            Object[] data = {ip};
                            tableModel.addRow(data);
                        }
                    } catch (InterruptedException | ExecutionException ex) {
                        Logger.getLogger(gui.class.getName()).log(Level.SEVERE, null, ex);
                    }
                }

A generic list of anonymous class

You can do it this way:

var o = new { Id = 1, Name = "Foo" };
var o1 = new { Id = 2, Name = "Bar" };

var array = new[] { o, o1 };
var list = array.ToList();

list.Add(new { Id = 3, Name = "Yeah" });

It seems a little "hacky" to me, but it works - if you really need to have a list and can't just use the anonymous array.

How to fix System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object

I was getting this same error, but for me this was due to a method in a base class (in Project A) having the output type changed from a non-void type to void. A child class existed in Project B (which I didn't want used and had marked obsolete) that I missed when performing this update and hence started throwing this error.

HTTP GET with request body

I put this question to the IETF HTTP WG. The comment from Roy Fielding (author of http/1.1 document in 1998) was that

"... an implementation would be broken to do anything other than to parse and discard that body if received"

RFC 7213 (HTTPbis) states:

"A payload within a GET request message has no defined semantics;"

It seems clear now that the intention was that semantic meaning on GET request bodies is prohibited, which means that the request body can't be used to affect the result.

There are proxies out there that will definitely break your request in various ways if you include a body on GET.

So in summary, don't do it.

What is difference between sleep() method and yield() method of multi threading?

We can prevent a thread from execution by using any of the 3 methods of Thread class:

  1. yield() method pauses the currently executing thread temporarily for giving a chance to the remaining waiting threads of the same priority or higher priority to execute. If there is no waiting thread or all the waiting threads have a lower priority then the same thread will continue its execution. The yielded thread when it will get the chance for execution is decided by the thread scheduler whose behavior is vendor dependent.

  2. join() If any executing thread t1 calls join() on t2 (i.e. t2.join()) immediately t1 will enter into waiting state until t2 completes its execution.

  3. sleep() Based on our requirement we can make a thread to be in sleeping state for a specified period of time (hope not much explanation required for our favorite method).

Disable keyboard on EditText

Disable the keyboard (API 11 to current)

This is the best answer I have found so far to disable the keyboard (and I have seen a lot of them).

if (Build.VERSION.SDK_INT >= Build.VERSION_CODES.LOLLIPOP) { // API 21
    editText.setShowSoftInputOnFocus(false);
} else { // API 11-20
    editText.setTextIsSelectable(true);
}

There is no need to use reflection or set the InputType to null.

Re-enable the keyboard

Here is how you re-enable the keyboard if needed.

if (Build.VERSION.SDK_INT >= Build.VERSION_CODES.LOLLIPOP) { // API 21
    editText.setShowSoftInputOnFocus(true);
} else { // API 11-20
    editText.setTextIsSelectable(false);
    editText.setFocusable(true);
    editText.setFocusableInTouchMode(true);
    editText.setClickable(true);
    editText.setLongClickable(true);
    editText.setMovementMethod(ArrowKeyMovementMethod.getInstance());
    editText.setText(editText.getText(), TextView.BufferType.SPANNABLE);
}

See this Q&A for why the complicated pre API 21 version is needed to undo setTextIsSelectable(true):

This answer needs to be more thoroughly tested.

I have tested the setShowSoftInputOnFocus on higher API devices, but after @androiddeveloper's comment below, I see that this needs to be more thoroughly tested.

Here is some cut-and-paste code to help test this answer. If you can confirm that it does or doesn't work for API 11 to 20, please leave a comment. I don't have any API 11-20 devices and my emulator is having problems.

Handle JSON Decode Error when nothing returned

If you don't mind importing the json module, then the best way to handle it is through json.JSONDecodeError (or json.decoder.JSONDecodeError as they are the same) as using default errors like ValueError could catch also other exceptions not necessarily connected to the json decode one.

from json.decoder import JSONDecodeError

try:
    qByUser = byUsrUrlObj.read()
    qUserData = json.loads(qByUser).decode('utf-8')
    questionSubjs = qUserData["all"]["questions"]
except JSONDecodeError as e:
    # do whatever you want

//EDIT (Oct 2020):

As @Jacob Lee noted in the comment, there could be the basic common TypeError raised when the JSON object is not a str, bytes, or bytearray. Your question is about JSONDecodeError, but still it is worth mentioning here as a note; to handle also this situation, but differentiate between different issues, the following could be used:

from json.decoder import JSONDecodeError

try:
    qByUser = byUsrUrlObj.read()
    qUserData = json.loads(qByUser).decode('utf-8')
    questionSubjs = qUserData["all"]["questions"]
except JSONDecodeError as e:
    # do whatever you want
except TypeError as e:
    # do whatever you want in this case

Stuck while installing Visual Studio 2015 (Update for Microsoft Windows (KB2999226))

I was stuck with the same problem. I found this page with all the possible versions of the KB2999226 also know as Update for Universal C Runtime in Windows.

I download the x64 version and it work perfectly in my Windows 7 Ultimate.

How can you get the build/version number of your Android application?

private String GetAppVersion() {
    try {
        PackageInfo _info = mContext.getPackageManager().getPackageInfo(mContext.getPackageName(), 0);
        return _info.versionName;
    }
    catch (PackageManager.NameNotFoundException e) {
        e.printStackTrace();
        return "";
    }
}

private int GetVersionCode() {
    try {
        PackageInfo _info = mContext.getPackageManager().getPackageInfo(mContext.getPackageName(), 0);
        return _info.versionCode;
    }
    catch (PackageManager.NameNotFoundException e) {
        e.printStackTrace();
        return -1;

PHP: How to handle <![CDATA[ with SimpleXMLElement?

pip installs packages successfully, but executables not found from command line

Solution

Based on other answers, for linux and mac you can run the following:

echo "export PATH=\"`python3 -m site --user-base`/bin:$PATH\"" >> ~/.bashrc
source ~/.bashrc

instead of python3 you can use any other link to python version: python, python2.7, python3.6, python3.9, etc.

Explanation

In order to know where the user packages are installed in the current OS (win, mac, linux), we run:

python3 -m site --user-base

We know that the scripts go to the bin/ folder where the packages are installed.

So we concatenate the paths:

echo `python3 -m site --user-base`/bin

Then we export that to an environment variable.

export PATH=\"`python3 -m site --user-base`/bin:$PATH\"

Finally, in order to avoid repeating the export command we add it to our .bashrc file and we run source to run the new changes, giving us the suggested solution mentioned at the beginning.

Webpack.config how to just copy the index.html to the dist folder

Option 1

In your index.js file (i.e. webpack entry) add a require to your index.html via file-loader plugin, e.g.:

require('file-loader?name=[name].[ext]!../index.html');

Once you build your project with webpack, index.html will be in the output folder.

Option 2

Use html-webpack-plugin to avoid having an index.html at all. Simply have webpack generate the file for you.

In this case if you want to keep your own index.html file as template, you may use this configuration:

{
  plugins: [
    new HtmlWebpackPlugin({
      template: 'src/index.html'
    })
  ]
}

See the docs for more information.

How do I run Java .class files?

This can mean a lot of things, but the most common one is that the class contained in the file doesn't have the same name as the file itself. So, check if your class is also called HelloWorld2.

pthread_join() and pthread_exit()

The typical use is

void* ret = NULL;
pthread_t tid = something; /// change it suitably
if (pthread_join (tid, &ret))
   handle_error();
// do something with the return value ret

Eloquent - where not equal to

Use where with a != operator in combination with whereNull

Code::where('to_be_used_by_user_id', '!=' , 2)->orWhereNull('to_be_used_by_user_id')->get()

Syntax for a single-line Bash infinite while loop

Colon is always "true":

while :; do foo; sleep 2; done

retrieve links from web page using python and BeautifulSoup

just for getting the links, without B.soup and regex:

import urllib2
url="http://www.somewhere.com"
page=urllib2.urlopen(url)
data=page.read().split("</a>")
tag="<a href=\""
endtag="\">"
for item in data:
    if "<a href" in item:
        try:
            ind = item.index(tag)
            item=item[ind+len(tag):]
            end=item.index(endtag)
        except: pass
        else:
            print item[:end]

for more complex operations, of course BSoup is still preferred.

HTML5 video - show/hide controls programmatically

<video id="myvideo">
  <source src="path/to/movie.mp4" />
</video>

<p onclick="toggleControls();">Toggle</p>

<script>
var video = document.getElementById("myvideo");

function toggleControls() {
  if (video.hasAttribute("controls")) {
     video.removeAttribute("controls")
  } else {
     video.setAttribute("controls","controls")
  }
}
</script>

How do I use a C# Class Library in a project?

In the Solution Explorer window, right click the project you want to use your class library from and click the 'Add Reference' menu item. Then if the class library is in the same solution file, go to the projects tab and select it; if it's not in the same tab, you can go to the Browse tab and find it that way.

Then you can use anything in that assembly.

Math functions in AngularJS bindings

The number filter formats the number with thousands separators, so it's not strictly a math function.

Moreover, its decimal 'limiter' doesn't ceil any chopped decimals (as some other answers would lead you to believe), but rather rounding them.

So for any math function you want, you can inject it (easier to mock than injecting the whole Math object) like so:

myModule.filter('ceil', function () {
  return Math.ceil;
});

No need to wrap it in another function either.

jQuery UI autocomplete with JSON

You need to transform the object you are getting back into an array in the format that jQueryUI expects.

You can use $.map to transform the dealers object into that array.

$('#dealerName').autocomplete({
    source: function (request, response) {
        $.getJSON("/example/location/example.json?term=" + request.term, function (data) {
            response($.map(data.dealers, function (value, key) {
                return {
                    label: value,
                    value: key
                };
            }));
        });
    },
    minLength: 2,
    delay: 100
});

Note that when you select an item, the "key" will be placed in the text box. You can change this by tweaking the label and value properties that $.map's callback function return.

Alternatively, if you have access to the server-side code that is generating the JSON, you could change the way the data is returned. As long as the data:

  • Is an array of objects that have a label property, a value property, or both, or
  • Is a simple array of strings

In other words, if you can format the data like this:

[{ value: "1463", label: "dealer 5"}, { value: "269", label: "dealer 6" }]

or this:

["dealer 5", "dealer 6"]

Then your JavaScript becomes much simpler:

$('#dealerName').autocomplete({
    source: "/example/location/example.json"
});

Set value of hidden input with jquery

You don't need to set name , just giving an id is enough.

<input type="hidden" id="testId" />

and than with jquery you can use 'val()' method like below:

 $('#testId').val("work");

Do you have to include <link rel="icon" href="favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon" />?

If you don't call the favicon, favicon.ico, you can use that tag to specify the actual path (incase you have it in an images/ directory). The browser/webpage looks for favicon.ico in the root directory by default.

Decompile an APK, modify it and then recompile it

This is a way:

  1. Using apktool to decode:

     $ apktool d -f {apkfile} -o {output folder}

  2. Next, using JADX (at github.com/skylot/jadx)

     $ jadx -d {output folder} {apkfile}

2 tools extract and decompiler to same output folder.

Easy way: Using Online APK Decompiler
