PostgreSQL unnest() with element number

unnest2() as exercise

Older versions before pg v8.4 need a user-defined unnest(). We can adapt this old function to return elements with an index:

CREATE FUNCTION unnest2(anyarray)
  RETURNS setof record  AS
$BODY$
  SELECT $1[i], i
  FROM   generate_series(array_lower($1,1),
                         array_upper($1,1)) i;
$BODY$ LANGUAGE sql IMMUTABLE;

What's the name for hyphen-separated case?

There isn't really a standard name for this case convention, and there is disagreement over what it should be called.

That said, as of 2019, there is a strong case to be made that kebab-case is winning:

https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?date=all&q=kebab-case,spinal-case,lisp-case,dash-case,caterpillar-case

spinal-case is a distant second, and no other terms have any traction at all.

Additionally, kebab-case has entered the lexicon of several javascript code libraries, e.g.:

However, there are still other terms that people use. Lisp has used this convention for decades as described in this Wikipedia entry, so some people have described it as lisp-case. Some other forms I've seen include caterpillar-case, dash-case, and hyphen-case, but none of these is standard.

So the answer to your question is: No, there isn't a single widely-accepted name for this case convention analogous to snake_case or camelCase, which are widely-accepted.

How to search in a List of Java object

As your list is an ArrayList, it can be assumed that it is unsorted. Therefore, there is no way to search for your element that is faster than O(n).

If you can, you should think about changing your list into a Set (with HashSet as implementation) with a specific Comparator for your sample class.

Another possibility would be to use a HashMap. You can add your data as Sample (please start class names with an uppercase letter) and use the string you want to search for as key. Then you could simply use

Sample samp = myMap.get(myKey);

If there can be multiple samples per key, use Map<String, List<Sample>>, otherwise use Map<String, Sample>. If you use multiple keys, you will have to create multiple maps that hold the same dataset. As they all point to the same objects, space shouldn't be that much of a problem.

It sort of depends on what that large block is. Maybe you just mean to delete a paragraph in which case a dip would do.

How do I prevent mails sent through PHP mail() from going to spam?

There is no sure shot trick. You need to explore the reasons why your mails are classified as spam. SpamAssassin hase a page describing Some Tips for Legitimate Senders to Avoid False Positives. See also Coding Horror: So You'd Like to Send Some Email (Through Code)

Setting a width and height on an A tag

All these suggestions work unless you put the anchors inside an UL list.

<ul>
    <li>
        <a>click me</a>>
    </li>
</ul>

Then any cascade style sheet rules are overridden in the Chrome browser. The width becomes auto. Then you must use inline CSS rules directly on the anchor itself.

Creating a new ArrayList in Java

    ArrayList<Class> myArray = new ArrayList<Class>();

Here ArrayList of the particular Class will be made. In general one can have any datatype like int,char, string or even an array in place of Class.

These are added to the array list using

    myArray.add();

And the values are retrieved using

    myArray.get();

Extract parameter value from url using regular expressions

Why dont you take the string and split it

Example on the url

var url = "http://www.youtube.com/watch?p=DB852818BF378DAC&v=1q-k-uN73Gk"

you can do a split as

var params = url.split("?")[1].split("&");

You will get array of strings with params as name value pairs with "=" as the delimiter.

Google Maps API v3: InfoWindow not sizing correctly

I tried each one of the answers listed. None worked for me. This finally fixed it PERMANENTLY. The code I inherited had a DIV wrapper around all the <h#> and <p> entries. I simply forced some "style" in the same DIV, taking into account a desired max width, threw in the line height change just in case (someone else's fix) and my own white-space: nowrap, which then made the auto overflow make the correct adjustments. No scroll bar, no truncation and no problems!

html = '<div class="map-overlay" style="max-width: 400px;
                                        line-height: normal;
                                        white-space: nowrap;
                                        overflow: auto;
                                       ">';

How do I upgrade to Python 3.6 with conda?

I found this page with detailed instructions to upgrade Anaconda to a major newer version of Python (from Anaconda 4.0+). First,

conda update conda
conda remove argcomplete conda-manager

I also had to conda remove some packages not on the official list:

  • backports_abc
  • beautiful-soup
  • blaze-core

Depending on packages installed on your system, you may get additional UnsatisfiableError errors - simply add those packages to the remove list. Next, install the version of Python,

conda install python==3.6

which takes a while, after which a message indicated to conda install anaconda-client, so I did

conda install anaconda-client

which said it's already there. Finally, following the directions,

conda update anaconda

I did this in the Windows 10 command prompt, but things should be similar in Mac OS X.

C# List of objects, how do I get the sum of a property

Here is example code you could run to make such test:

var f = 10000000;
var p = new int[f];

for(int i = 0; i < f; ++i)
{
    p[i] = i % 2;
}

var time = DateTime.Now;
p.Sum();
Console.WriteLine(DateTime.Now - time);

int x = 0;
time = DateTime.Now;
foreach(var item in p){
   x += item;
}
Console.WriteLine(DateTime.Now - time);

x = 0;
time = DateTime.Now;
for(int i = 0, j = f; i < j; ++i){
   x += p[i];
}
Console.WriteLine(DateTime.Now - time);

The same example for complex object is:

void Main()
{
    var f = 10000000;
    var p = new Test[f];

    for(int i = 0; i < f; ++i)
    {
        p[i] = new Test();
        p[i].Property = i % 2;
    }

    var time = DateTime.Now;
    p.Sum(k => k.Property);
    Console.WriteLine(DateTime.Now - time);

    int x = 0;
    time = DateTime.Now;
    foreach(var item in p){
        x += item.Property;
    }
    Console.WriteLine(DateTime.Now - time);

    x = 0;
    time = DateTime.Now;
    for(int i = 0, j = f; i < j; ++i){
        x += p[i].Property;
    }
    Console.WriteLine(DateTime.Now - time);
}

class Test
{
    public int Property { get; set; }
}

My results with compiler optimizations off are:

00:00:00.0570370 : Sum()
00:00:00.0250180 : Foreach()
00:00:00.0430272 : For(...)

and for second test are:

00:00:00.1450955 : Sum()
00:00:00.0650430 : Foreach()
00:00:00.0690510 : For()

it looks like LINQ is generally slower than foreach(...) but what is weird for me is that foreach(...) appears to be faster than for loop.

How to customize an end time for a YouTube video?

Youtube doesn't provide any option for an end time, but there alternative sites that provide this, like Tubechop. Otherwise try writing a function that either pauses video/skips to next when your when your video has played its desired duration.

OR: using the Youtube Javascript player API, you could do something like this:

function onPlayerStateChange(evt) {
    if (evt.data == YT.PlayerState.PLAYING && !done) {
        setTimeout(stopVideo, 6000);
        done = true;
    }
}

Playing sound notifications using Javascript?

Using the html5 audio tag and jquery:

// appending HTML5 Audio Tag in HTML Body
$('<audio id="chatAudio">
    <source src="notify.ogg" type="audio/ogg">
    <source src="notify.mp3" type="audio/mpeg">
</audio>').appendTo('body');

// play sound
$('#chatAudio')[0].play();

Code from here.

In my implementation I added the audio embed directly into the HTML without jquery append.

How to align LinearLayout at the center of its parent?

add layout_gravity="center" or "center_horizontal" to the parent layout.

On a side note, your LinearLayout inside your TableRow seems un-necessary, as a TableRow is already an horizontal LinearLayout.

SQL Count for each date

Set Focus on EditText

Requesting focus isn't enough to show the keyboard.

To get focus and show the keyboard you would write something like this:

if(myEditText.requestFocus()) {
    getWindow().setSoftInputMode(WindowManager.LayoutParams.SOFT_INPUT_STATE_ALWAYS_VISIBLE);
}

EDIT: Adding extra info to the answer after the checkLiganame method was added.

In the checkLiganame method you check if the cursor is null. The cursor will always return an object, so the check for null doesn't do anything. However the problem is in the line db.close();

When you close the database connection, the Cursor becomes invalid and most probably is nulled.

So close the database after you've fetched the value.

Instead of checking the cursor for null, you should check if the number of rows returned are more than 0: if(cursor.getCount() > 0) and then set your boolean to true if so.

EDIT2: So here's some code for how to make it work. EDIT3: Sorry wrong code I added... ;S

First off, you need to clear focus if another EditText gets focus. This can be done with myEditText.clearFocus(). Then in your onFocusChangeListener you shouldn't really care if first EditText has focus or not, so the onFocusChangeListener could look something like this:

public class MainActivity extends Activity implements OnFocusChangeListener {
    private EditText editText1, editText2;

    @Override
    protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
        super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
        setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);

        editText1 = (EditText) findViewById(R.id.editText1);
        editText1.setOnFocusChangeListener(this);
        editText2 = (EditText) findViewById(R.id.editText2);
        editText2.setOnFocusChangeListener(this);
    }

    @Override
    public void onFocusChange(View v, boolean hasFocus) {
        String liganame = editText1.getText().toString();

        if(liganame.length() == 0) {
            if(editText1.requestFocus()) {
                getWindow().setSoftInputMode(WindowManager.LayoutParams.SOFT_INPUT_STATE_ALWAYS_VISIBLE);
                editText2.clearFocus();
                Toast.makeText(MainActivity.this, "Dieser Liganame ist bereits vergeben", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();
            }
        }
    }
}

Replace the first check if(liganame.length() == 0) with your own check, then it should work. Take note, that all the EditText views should have set their onFocusChangeListener to the same listener like I've done in the example.

JPA Query selecting only specific columns without using Criteria Query?

Projections can be used to select only specific properties(columns) of an entity object.

From the docs

Spring Data Repositories usually return the domain model when using query methods. However, sometimes, you may need to alter the view of that model for various reasons. In this section, you will learn how to define projections to serve up simplified and reduced views of resources.

Define an interface with only the getters you want.

interface CustomObject {
    String getA(); // Actual property name is A
    String getB(); // Actual property name is B
}

Now return CustomObject from your repository like so :

public interface YOU_REPOSITORY_NAME extends JpaRepository<YOUR_ENTITY, Long> {
    CustomObject findByObjectName(String name);
}

Hard reset of a single file

You can use the following command:

git checkout HEAD -- my-file.txt

... which will update both the working copy of my-file.txt and its state in the index with that from HEAD.

-- basically means: treat every argument after this point as a file name. More details in this answer. Thanks to VonC for pointing this out.

How can I put the current running linux process in background?

Suspend the process with CTRL+Z then use the command bg to resume it in background. For example:

sleep 60
^Z  #Suspend character shown after hitting CTRL+Z
[1]+ Stopped sleep 60 #Message showing stopped process info
bg #Resume current job (last job stopped)

More about job control and bg usage in bash manual page:

JOB CONTROL
Typing the suspend character (typically ^Z, Control-Z) while a process is running causes that process to be stopped and returns control to bash. [...] The user may then manipulate the state of this job, using the bg command to continue it in the background, [...]. A ^Z takes effect immediately, and has the additional side effect of causing pending output and typeahead to be discarded.

bg [jobspec ...]
Resume each suspended job jobspec in the background, as if it had been started with &. If jobspec is not present, the shell's notion of the current job is used.

EDIT

To start a process where you can even kill the terminal and it still carries on running

nohup [command] [-args] > [filename] 2>&1 &

e.g.

nohup /home/edheal/myprog -arg1 -arg2 > /home/edheal/output.txt 2>&1 &

To just ignore the output (not very wise) change the filename to /dev/null

To get the error message set to a different file change the &1 to a filename.

In addition: You can use the jobs command to see an indexed list of those backgrounded processes. And you can kill a backgrounded process by running kill %1 or kill %2 with the number being the index of the process.

Set custom attribute using JavaScript

Please use dataset

var article = document.querySelector('#electriccars'),
    data = article.dataset;

// data.columns -> "3"
// data.indexnumber -> "12314"
// data.parent -> "cars"

so in your case for setting data:

getElementById('item1').dataset.icon = "base2.gif";

  }
}

How do I check if a variable exists?

I will assume that the test is going to be used in a function, similar to user97370's answer. I don't like that answer because it pollutes the global namespace. One way to fix it is to use a class instead:

class InitMyVariable(object):
  my_variable = None

def __call__(self):
  if self.my_variable is None:
   self.my_variable = ...

I don't like this, because it complicates the code and opens up questions such as, should this confirm to the Singleton programming pattern? Fortunately, Python has allowed functions to have attributes for a while, which gives us this simple solution:

def InitMyVariable():
  if InitMyVariable.my_variable is None:
    InitMyVariable.my_variable = ...
InitMyVariable.my_variable = None

Usage:

<localComponents:GifImage x:Name="gifImage" IsAutoStart="True" GifSource="{Binding Path=value}" />

As it would not cause memory leak and it animated the gif image own time line, you can try it.

How to add fonts to create-react-app based projects?

There are two options:

Using Imports

This is the suggested option. It ensures your fonts go through the build pipeline, get hashes during compilation so that browser caching works correctly, and that you get compilation errors if the files are missing.

As described in “Adding Images, Fonts, and Files”, you need to have a CSS file imported from JS. For example, by default src/index.js imports src/index.css:

import './index.css';

A CSS file like this goes through the build pipeline, and can reference fonts and images. For example, if you put a font in src/fonts/MyFont.woff, your index.css might include this:

@font-face {
  font-family: 'MyFont';
  src: local('MyFont'), url(./fonts/MyFont.woff) format('woff');
}

Notice how we’re using a relative path starting with ./. This is a special notation that helps the build pipeline (powered by Webpack) discover this file.

Normally this should be enough.

Using public Folder

If for some reason you prefer not to use the build pipeline, and instead do it the “classic way”, you can use the public folder and put your fonts there.

The downside of this approach is that the files don’t get hashes when you compile for production so you’ll have to update their names every time you change them, or browsers will cache the old versions.

If you want to do it this way, put the fonts somewhere into the public folder, for example, into public/fonts/MyFont.woff. If you follow this approach, you should put CSS files into public folder as well and not import them from JS because mixing these approaches is going to be very confusing. So, if you still want to do it, you’d have a file like public/index.css. You would have to manually add <link> to this stylesheet from public/index.html:

<link rel="stylesheet" href="%PUBLIC_URL%/index.css">

And inside of it, you would use the regular CSS notation:

@font-face {
  font-family: 'MyFont';
  src: local('MyFont'), url(fonts/MyFont.woff) format('woff');
}

Notice how I’m using fonts/MyFont.woff as the path. This is because index.css is in the public folder so it will be served from the public path (usually it’s the server root, but if you deploy to GitHub Pages and set your homepage field to http://myuser.github.io/myproject, it will be served from /myproject). However fonts are also in the public folder, so they will be served from fonts relatively (either http://mywebsite.com/fonts or http://myuser.github.io/myproject/fonts). Therefore we use the relative path.

Note that since we’re avoiding the build pipeline in this example, it doesn’t verify that the file actually exists. This is why I don’t recommend this approach. Another problem is that our index.css file doesn’t get minified and doesn’t get a hash. So it’s going to be slower for the end users, and you risk the browsers caching old versions of the file.

 Which Way to Use?

Go with the first method (“Using Imports”). I only described the second one since that’s what you attempted to do (judging by your comment), but it has many problems and should only be the last resort when you’re working around some issue.

How to delete an SVN project from SVN repository

I too felt like the accepted answer was a bit misleading as it could lead to a user inadvertently deleting multiple Projects. It is not accurate to state that the words Repository, Project and Directory are ambiguous within the context of SVN. They have specific meanings, even if the system itself doesn't enforce those meanings. The community and more importantly the SVN Clients have an agreed upon understanding of these terms which allow them to Tag, Branch and Merge.

Ideally this will help clear any confusion. As someone that has had to go from git to svn for a few projects, it can be frustrating until you learn that SVN branching and SVN projects are really talking about folder structures.

SVN Terminology

Repository

The database of commits and history for your folders and files. A repository can contain multiple 'projects' or no projects.

Project

A specific SVN folder structure which enables SVN tools to perform tagging, merging and branching. SVN does not inherently support branching. Branching was added later and is a result of a special folder structure as follows:

  • /project
    • /tags
    • /branches
    • /trunk

Note: Remember, an SVN 'Project' is a term used to define a specific folder strcuture within a Repository

Projects in a Repository

Repository Layout

As a repository is just a database of the files and directory commits, it can host multiple projects. When discussing Repositories and Projects be sure the correct term is being used.

Removing a Repository could mean removing multiple Projects!

Local SVN Directory (.svn directory at root)

When using a URL commits occur automatically.

  • svn co http://svn.server.local/svn/myrepo
  • cd myrepo

  • Remove a Project: svn rm skunkworks + svn commit

  • Remove a Directory: svn rm regulardir/subdir + svn commit
  • Remove a Project (Without Checking Out): svn rm http://svn.server.local/svn/myrepo/app1
  • Remove a Directory (Without Checking Out): svn rm http://svn.server.local/svn/myrepo/regulardir

Because an SVN Project is really a specific directory structure, removing a project is the same as removing a directory.

SVN Repository Management

There are several SVN servers available to host your repositories. The management of repositories themselves are typically done through the admin consoles of the servers. For example, Visual SVN allows you to create Repositories (databases), directories and Projects. But you cannot remove files, manage commits, rename folders, etc. from within the server console as those are SVN specific tasks. The SVN server typically manages the creation of a repository. Once a repository has been created and you have a new URL, the rest of your work is done through the svn command.

Why does 2 mod 4 = 2?

Much easier if u use bananas and a group of people.

Say you have 1 banana and group of 6 people, this you would express: 1 mod 6 / 1 % 6 / 1 modulo 6.

You need 6 bananas for each person in group to be well fed and happy.

So if you then have 1 banana and need to share it with 6 people, but you can only share if you have 1 banana for each group member, that is 6 persons, then you will have 1 banana (remainder, not shared on anyone in group), the same goes for 2 bananas. Then you will have 2 banana as remainder (nothing is shared).

But when you get 6 bananas, then you should be happy, because then there is 1 banana for each member in group of 6 people, and the remainder is 0 or no bananas left when you shared all 6 bananas on 6 people.

Now, for 7 bananas and 6 people in group, you then will have 7 mod 6 = 1, this because you gave 6 people 1 banana each, and 1 banana is the remainder.

For 12 mod 6 or 12 bananas shared on 6 people, each one will have two bananas, and the remainder is then 0.

Parsing HTTP Response in Python

json works with Unicode text in Python 3 (JSON format itself is defined only in terms of Unicode text) and therefore you need to decode bytes received in HTTP response. r.headers.get_content_charset('utf-8') gets your the character encoding:

#!/usr/bin/env python3
import io
import json
from urllib.request import urlopen

with urlopen('https://httpbin.org/get') as r, \
     io.TextIOWrapper(r, encoding=r.headers.get_content_charset('utf-8')) as file:
    result = json.load(file)
print(result['headers']['User-Agent'])

It is not necessary to use io.TextIOWrapper here:

#!/usr/bin/env python3
import json
from urllib.request import urlopen

with urlopen('https://httpbin.org/get') as r:
    result = json.loads(r.read().decode(r.headers.get_content_charset('utf-8')))
print(result['headers']['User-Agent'])

How can I update npm on Windows?

When & why to use delegates?

Delegates are extremely useful when wanting to declare a block of code that you want to pass around. For example when using a generic retry mechanism.

Pseudo:

function Retry(Delegate func, int numberOfTimes)
    try
    {
       func.Invoke();
    }
    catch { if(numberOfTimes blabla) func.Invoke(); etc. etc. }

Or when you want to do late evaluation of code blocks, like a function where you have some Transform action, and want to have a BeforeTransform and an AfterTransform action that you can evaluate within your Transform function, without having to know whether the BeginTransform is filled, or what it has to transform.

And of course when creating event handlers. You don't want to evaluate the code now, but only when needed, so you register a delegate that can be invoked when the event occurs.

How do I generate a random number between two variables that I have stored?

If you have a C++11 compiler you can prepare yourself for the future by using c++'s pseudo random number faculties:

//make sure to include the random number generators and such
#include <random>
//the random device that will seed the generator
std::random_device seeder;
//then make a mersenne twister engine
std::mt19937 engine(seeder());
//then the easy part... the distribution
std::uniform_int_distribution<int> dist(min, max);
//then just generate the integer like this:
int compGuess = dist(engine);

That might be slightly easier to grasp, being you don't have to do anything involving modulos and crap... although it requires more code, it's always nice to know some new C++ stuff...

Hope this helps - Luke

Matplotlib make tick labels font size smaller

Please note that newer versions of MPL have a shortcut for this task. An example is shown in the other answer to this question: https://stackoverflow.com/a/11386056/42346

The code below is for illustrative purposes and may not necessarily be optimized.

import matplotlib.pyplot as plt
import numpy as np

def xticklabels_example():
    fig = plt.figure()

    x = np.arange(20)
    y1 = np.cos(x)
    y2 = (x**2)
    y3 = (x**3)
    yn = (y1,y2,y3)
    COLORS = ('b','g','k')

    for i,y in enumerate(yn):
        ax = fig.add_subplot(len(yn),1,i+1)

        ax.plot(x, y, ls='solid', color=COLORS[i])

        if i != len(yn) - 1:
            # all but last
            ax.set_xticklabels( () )
        else:
            for tick in ax.xaxis.get_major_ticks():
                tick.label.set_fontsize(14)
                # specify integer or one of preset strings, e.g.
                #tick.label.set_fontsize('x-small')
                tick.label.set_rotation('vertical')

    fig.suptitle('Matplotlib xticklabels Example')
    plt.show()

if __name__ == '__main__':

ES6 export default with multiple functions referring to each other

The export default {...} construction is just a shortcut for something like this:

const funcs = {
    foo() { console.log('foo') },
    bar() { console.log('bar') },
    baz() { foo(); bar() }
}

export default funcs

It must become obvious now that there are no foo, bar or baz functions in the module's scope. But there is an object named funcs (though in reality it has no name) that contains these functions as its properties and which will become the module's default export.

So, to fix your code, re-write it without using the shortcut and refer to foo and bar as properties of funcs:

const funcs = {
    foo() { console.log('foo') },
    bar() { console.log('bar') },
    baz() { funcs.foo(); funcs.bar() } // here is the fix
}

export default funcs

Another option is to use this keyword to refer to funcs object without having to declare it explicitly, as @pawel has pointed out.

Yet another option (and the one which I generally prefer) is to declare these functions in the module scope. This allows to refer to them directly:

function foo() { console.log('foo') }
function bar() { console.log('bar') }
function baz() { foo(); bar() }

export default {foo, bar, baz}

And if you want the convenience of default export and ability to import items individually, you can also export all functions individually:

// util.js

export function foo() { console.log('foo') }
export function bar() { console.log('bar') }
export function baz() { foo(); bar() }

export default {foo, bar, baz}

// a.js, using default export

import util from './util'
util.foo()

// b.js, using named exports

import {bar} from './util'
bar()

Or, as @loganfsmyth suggested, you can do without default export and just use import * as util from './util' to get all named exports in one object.

How to create and show common dialog (Error, Warning, Confirmation) in JavaFX 2.0?

Sergey is correct, but if you need to get a response from your home-spun dialog(s) for evaluation in the same block of code that invoked it, you should use .showAndWait(), not .show(). Here's my rendition of a couple of the dialog types that are provided in Swing's OptionPane:

        setResizable( false );
        setScene( scene );
        icon.setImage( new Image( getClass().getResourceAsStream( iconFile ) ) );
    }
    public void showDialog() {

How can compare-and-swap be used for a wait-free mutual exclusion for any shared data structure?

The linked list holds operations on the shared data structure.

For example, if I have a stack, it will be manipulated with pushes and pops. The linked list would be a set of pushes and pops on the pseudo-shared stack. Each thread sharing that stack will actually have a local copy, and to get to the current shared state, it'll walk the linked list of operations, and apply each operation in order to its local copy of the stack. When it reaches the end of the linked list, its local copy holds the current state (though, of course, it's subject to becoming stale at any time).

In the traditional model, you'd have some sort of locks around each push and pop. Each thread would wait to obtain a lock, then do a push or pop, then release the lock.

In this model, each thread has a local snapshot of the stack, which it keeps synchronized with other threads' view of the stack by applying the operations in the linked list. When it wants to manipulate the stack, it doesn't try to manipulate it directly at all. Instead, it simply adds its push or pop operation to the linked list, so all the other threads can/will see that operation and they can all stay in sync. Then, of course, it applies the operations in the linked list, and when (for example) there's a pop it checks which thread asked for the pop. It uses the popped item if and only if it's the thread that requested this particular pop.

ggplot with 2 y axes on each side and different scales

Starting with ggplot2 2.2.0 you can add a secondary axis like this (taken from the ggplot2 2.2.0 announcement):

ggplot(mpg, aes(displ, hwy)) +
  geom_point() +
  scale_y_continuous(
    "mpg (US)",
    sec.axis = sec_axis(~ . * 1.20, name = "mpg (UK)")
  )

In .NET, which loop runs faster, 'for' or 'foreach'?

It will always be close. For an array, sometimes for is slightly quicker, but foreach is more expressive, and offers LINQ, etc. In general, stick with foreach.

Additionally, foreach may be optimised in some scenarios. For example, a linked list might be terrible by indexer, but it might be quick by foreach. Actually, the standard LinkedList<T> doesn't even offer an indexer for this reason.

Entity Framework The underlying provider failed on Open

For me when that usually starts happening, I have to remote desktop into the service and at the minimum restart IIS. It usually starts popping up right after I deploy code. On a few rare occasions I have had to restart the SQL services and IIS. I wrote a batch script to take a param (1 or 2) and have it setup to either do a restart of IIS ( i.e. 1), or go full nuclear (i.e. 2).

Get Android .apk file VersionName or VersionCode WITHOUT installing apk

aapt dump badging test.apk | grep "VersionName" | sed -e "s/.*versionName='//" -e "s/' .*//"

This answers the question by returning only the version number as a result. However......

The goal as previously stated should be to find out if the apk on the server is newer than the one installed BEFORE attempting to download or install it. The easiest way to do this is include the version number in the filename of the apk hosted on the server eg myapp_1.01.apk

You will need to establish the name and version number of the apps already installed (if it is installed) in order to make the comparison. You will need a rooted device or a means of installing the aapt binary and busybox if they are not already included in the rom.

This script will get the list of apps from your server and compare with any installed apps. The result is a list flagged for upgrade/installation.

#/system/bin/sh
SERVER_LIST=$(wget -qO- "http://demo.server.com/apk/" | grep 'href' | grep '\.apk' | sed 's/.*href="//' | \

As somebody asked how to do it without using aapt. It is also possible to extract apk info with apktool and a bit of scripting. This way is slower and not simple in android but will work on windows/mac or linux as long as you have working apktool setup.

#!/bin/sh
APK=/path/to/your.apk
TMPDIR=/tmp/apktool
rm -f -R $TMPDIR
apktool d -q -f -s --force-manifest -o $TMPDIR $APK
APK=$(basename $APK)
VERSION=$(cat $TMPDIR/apktool.yml | grep "versionName" | sed -e "s/versionName: //")
LABEL=$(cat $TMPDIR/res/values/strings.xml | grep 'string name="title"' | sed -e 's/.*">//' -e 's/<.*//')
rm -f -R $TMPDIR
echo ${LABEL}_$(echo $V).apk

Also consider a drop folder on your server. Upload apks to it and a cron task renames and moves them to your update folder.

#!/bin/sh
# Drop Folder script for renaming APKs
# Read apk file from SRC folder and move it to TGT folder while changing filename to APKLABEL_APKVERSION.apk

Simulating Key Press C#

The easiest way to send (simulate) KeyStrokes to any window is to use the SendKeys.Send method of .NET Framework.

Checkout this very intuitive MSDN article http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.windows.forms.sendkeys.aspx

Particularly for your case, if your browser window is in focus, sending F5 would just involve the following line of code:

SendKeys.Send("{F5}");

PHP array: count or sizeof?

According to the website, sizeof() is an alias of count(), so they should be running the same code. Perhaps sizeof() has a little bit of overhead because it needs to resolve it to count()? It should be very minimal though.

"ImportError: no module named 'requests'" after installing with pip

Opening CMD in the location of the already installed request folder and running "pip install requests" worked for me. I am using two different versions of Python.

I think this works because requests is now installed outside my virtual environment. Haven't checked but just thought I'd write this in, in case anyone else is going crazy searching on Google.

IF a cell contains a string

SEARCH does not return 0 if there is no match, it returns #VALUE!. So you have to wrap calls to SEARCH with IFERROR.

For example...

=IF(IFERROR(SEARCH("cat", A1), 0), "cat", "none")

or

=IF(IFERROR(SEARCH("cat",A1),0),"cat",IF(IFERROR(SEARCH("22",A1),0),"22","none"))

Here, IFERROR returns the value from SEARCH when it works; the given value of 0 otherwise.

Select mySQL based only on month and year

No one seems to be talking about performance so I tested the two most popular answers on a sample database from Mysql. The table has 2.8M rows with structure

CREATE TABLE `salaries` (
  `emp_no` int(11) NOT NULL,
  `salary` int(11) NOT NULL,
  `from_date` date NOT NULL,
  `to_date` date NOT NULL
) ENGINE=InnoDB DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1;

ALTER TABLE `salaries`
  ADD PRIMARY KEY (`emp_no`,`from_date`);

Here are the tests performed and results

SELECT * FROM `salaries` WHERE YEAR(from_date) = 1992 AND MONTH(from_date) = 6
12339 results
-----------------
11.5 ms
12.1 ms
09.5 ms
07.5 ms
10.2 ms
-----------------
10.2 ms Avg
-----------------

SELECT * FROM `salaries` WHERE from_date BETWEEN '1992-06-01' AND '1992-06-31'
-----------------
10.0 ms
10.8 ms
09.5 ms
09.0 ms
08.3 ms
-----------------
09.5 ms Avg
-----------------

SELECT * FROM `salaries` WHERE YEAR(to_date) = 1992 AND MONTH(to_date) = 6
10887 results
-----------------
10.2 ms
11.7 ms
11.8 ms
12.4 ms
09.6 ms
-----------------
11.1 ms Avg
-----------------

SELECT * FROM `salaries` WHERE to_date BETWEEN '1992-06-01' AND '1992-06-31'
-----------------
09.0 ms
07.5 ms
10.6 ms
11.7 ms
12.0 ms
-----------------
10.2 ms Avg

My Conclusions

  1. BETWEEN was slightly better on both indexed and unindexed column.
  2. The unindexed column was marginally slower than the indexed column.

Selecting multiple columns/fields in MySQL subquery

Yes, you can do this. The knack you need is the concept that there are two ways of getting tables out of the table server. One way is ..

FROM TABLE A

The other way is

FROM (SELECT col as name1, col2 as name2 FROM ...) B

Notice that the select clause and the parentheses around it are a table, a virtual table.

So, using your second code example (I am guessing at the columns you are hoping to retrieve here):

SELECT a.attr, b.id, b.trans, b.lang
FROM attribute a
JOIN (
 SELECT at.id AS id, at.translation AS trans, at.language AS lang, a.attribute
 FROM attributeTranslation at
) b ON (a.id = b.attribute AND b.lang = 1)

Notice that your real table attribute is the first table in this join, and that this virtual table I've called b is the second table.

This technique comes in especially handy when the virtual table is a summary table of some kind. e.g.

SELECT a.attr, b.id, b.trans, b.lang, c.langcount
FROM attribute a
JOIN (
 SELECT at.id AS id, at.translation AS trans, at.language AS lang, at.attribute
 FROM attributeTranslation at
) b ON (a.id = b.attribute AND b.lang = 1)
JOIN (
 SELECT count(*) AS langcount,  at.attribute
 FROM attributeTranslation at
 GROUP BY at.attribute
) c ON (a.id = c.attribute)

See how that goes? You've generated a virtual table c containing two columns, joined it to the other two, used one of the columns for the ON clause, and returned the other as a column in your result set.

Angular - Can't make ng-repeat orderBy work

in Eike Thies's response above, if we use underscore.js, filter could be simplified to :

var app = angular.module('myApp', []).filter('object2Array', function() {
  return function(input) {
    return _.toArray(input);
  }
});

Optional query string parameters in ASP.NET Web API

This issue has been fixed in the regular release of MVC4. Now you can do:

public string GetFindBooks(string author="", string title="", string isbn="", string  somethingelse="", DateTime? date= null)
{
    // ...
}

and everything will work out of the box.

How to set DOM element as the first child?

You can implement it directly i all your window html elements.
Like this :

HTMLElement.prototype.appendFirst = function(childNode) {
    if (this.firstChild) {
        this.insertBefore(childNode, this.firstChild);
    }
    else {
        this.appendChild(childNode);
    }
};

Why is Java's SimpleDateFormat not thread-safe?

Here is the example which results in a strange error. Even Google gives no results:

public class ExampleClass {

private static final Pattern dateCreateP = Pattern.compile("???? ??????:\\s*(.+)");
private static final SimpleDateFormat sdf = new SimpleDateFormat("HH:mm:ss dd.MM.yyyy");

public static void main(String[] args) {
    ExecutorService executor = Executors.newFixedThreadPool(100);
    while (true) {
        executor.submit(new Runnable() {
            @Override
            public void run() {
                workConcurrently();
            }
        });
    }
}

public static void workConcurrently() {
    Matcher matcher = dateCreateP.matcher("???? ??????: 19:30:55 03.05.2015");
    Timestamp startAdvDate = null;
    try {
        if (matcher.find()) {
            String dateCreate = matcher.group(1);
            startAdvDate = new Timestamp(sdf.parse(dateCreate).getTime());
        }
    } catch (Throwable th) {
        th.printStackTrace();
    }
    System.out.print("OK ");
}
}

java: How can I do dynamic casting of a variable from one type to another?

Don't do this. Just have a properly parameterized constructor instead. The set and types of the connection parameters are fixed anyway, so there is no point in doing this all dynamically.

How does the ARM architecture differ from x86?

The ARM is like an Italian sports car:

  • Well balanced, well tuned, engine. Gives good acceleration, and top speed.
  • Excellent chases, brakes and suspension. Can stop quickly, can corner without slowing down.

The x86 is like an American muscle car:

  • Big engine, big fuel pump. Gives excellent top speed, and acceleration, but uses a lot of fuel.
  • Dreadful brakes, you need to put an appointment in your diary, if you want to slowdown.
  • Terrible steering, you have to slow down to corner.

In summary: the x86 is based on a design from 1974 and is good in a straight line (but uses a lot of fuel). The arm uses little fuel, does not slowdown for corners (branches).

Metaphor over, here are some real differences.

  • Arm has more registers.
  • Arm has few special purpose registers, x86 is all special purpose registers (so less moving stuff around).
  • Arm has few memory access commands, only load/store register.
  • Arm is internally Harvard architecture my design.
  • Arm is simple and fast.
  • Arm instructions are architecturally single cycle (except load/store multiple).
  • Arm instructions often do more than one thing (in a single cycle).
  • Where more that one Arm instruction is needed, such as the x86's looping store & auto-increment, the Arm still does it in less clock cycles.
  • Arm has more conditional instructions.
  • Arm's branch predictor is trivially simple (if unconditional or backwards then assume branch, else assume not-branch), and performs better that the very very very complex one in the x86 (there is not enough space here to explain it, not that I could).
  • Arm has a simple consistent instruction set (you could compile by hand, and learn the instruction set quickly).

How to create a md5 hash of a string in C?

All of the existing answers use the deprecated MD5Init(), MD5Update(), and MD5Final().

Instead, use EVP_DigestInit_ex(), EVP_DigestUpdate(), and EVP_DigestFinal_ex(), e.g.

// example.c
//
// gcc example.c -lssl -lcrypto -o example

#include <openssl/evp.h>
#include <stdio.h>
#include <string.h>

void bytes2md5(const char *data, int len, char *md5buf) {
  // Based on https://www.openssl.org/docs/manmaster/man3/EVP_DigestUpdate.html
  EVP_MD_CTX *mdctx = EVP_MD_CTX_new();
  const EVP_MD *md = EVP_md5();
  unsigned char md_value[EVP_MAX_MD_SIZE];
  unsigned int md_len, i;
  EVP_DigestInit_ex(mdctx, md, NULL);
  EVP_DigestUpdate(mdctx, data, len);
  EVP_DigestFinal_ex(mdctx, md_value, &md_len);
  EVP_MD_CTX_free(mdctx);
  for (i = 0; i < md_len; i++) {
    snprintf(&(md5buf[i * 2]), 16 * 2, "%02x", md_value[i]);
  }
}

int main(void) {
  const char *hello = "hello";
  char md5[33]; // 32 characters + null terminator
  bytes2md5(hello, strlen(hello), md5);
  printf("%s\n", md5);

Serializing/deserializing with memory stream

Use Method to Serialize and Deserialize Collection object from memory. This works on Collection Data Types. This Method will Serialize collection of any type to a byte stream. Create a Seperate Class SerilizeDeserialize and add following two methods:

public class SerilizeDeserialize
{

    // Serialize collection of any type to a byte stream

    public static byte[] Serialize<T>(T obj)
    {
        using (MemoryStream memStream = new MemoryStream())
        {
            BinaryFormatter binSerializer = new BinaryFormatter();
            binSerializer.Serialize(memStream, obj);
            return memStream.ToArray();
        }
    }

    // DSerialize collection of any type to a byte stream

    public static T Deserialize<T>(byte[] serializedObj)
    {
        T obj = default(T);
        using (MemoryStream memStream = new MemoryStream(serializedObj))
        {
            BinaryFormatter binSerializer = new BinaryFormatter();
            obj = (T)binSerializer.Deserialize(memStream);
        }
        return obj;
    }

}

How To use these method in your Class:

ArrayList arrayListMem = new ArrayList() { "One", "Two", "Three", "Four", "Five", "Six", "Seven" };
Console.WriteLine("Serializing to Memory : arrayListMem");
byte[] stream = SerilizeDeserialize.Serialize(arrayListMem);

ArrayList arrayListMemDes = new ArrayList();

arrayListMemDes = SerilizeDeserialize.Deserialize<ArrayList>(stream);

Console.WriteLine("DSerializing From Memory : arrayListMemDes");
foreach (var item in arrayListMemDes)
{
    Console.WriteLine(item);
}

Why is the use of alloca() not considered good practice?

All of the other answers are correct. However, if the thing you want to alloc using alloca() is reasonably small, I think that it's a good technique that's faster and more convenient than using malloc() or otherwise.

In other words, alloca( 0x00ffffff ) is dangerous and likely to cause overflow, exactly as much as char hugeArray[ 0x00ffffff ]; is. Be cautious and reasonable and you'll be fine.

How to override the [] operator in Python?

You need to use the __getitem__ method.

class MyClass:
    def __getitem__(self, key):
        return key * 2

myobj = MyClass()
myobj[3] #Output: 6

And if you're going to be setting values you'll need to implement the __setitem__ method too, otherwise this will happen:

>>> myobj[5] = 1
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "<stdin>", line 1, in <module>
AttributeError: MyClass instance has no attribute '__setitem__'

JavaScript override methods

Edit: It's now six years since the original answer was written and a lot has changed!

  • If you're using a newer version of JavaScript, possibly compiled with a tool like Babel, you can use real classes.
  • If you're using the class-like component constructors provided by Angular or React, you'll want to look in the docs for that framework.
  • If you're using ES5 and making "fake" classes by hand using prototypes, the answer below is still as right as it ever was.

Good luck!

JavaScript inheritance looks a bit different from Java. Here is how the native JavaScript object system looks:

// Create a class
function Vehicle(color){
  this.color = color;
}

// Add an instance method
Vehicle.prototype.go = function(){
  return "Underway in " + this.color;
}

// Add a second class
function Car(color){
  this.color = color;
}

// And declare it is a subclass of the first
Car.prototype = new Vehicle();

// Override the instance method
Car.prototype.go = function(){
  return Vehicle.prototype.go.call(this) + " car"
}

// Create some instances and see the overridden behavior.
var v = new Vehicle("blue");
v.go() // "Underway in blue"

var c = new Car("red");
c.go() // "Underway in red car"

Unfortunately this is a bit ugly and it does not include a very nice way to "super": you have to manually specify which parent classes' method you want to call. As a result, there are a variety of tools to make creating classes nicer. Try looking at Prototype.js, Backbone.js, or a similar library that includes a nicer syntax for doing OOP in js.

ALTER COLUMN in sqlite

While it is true that the is no ALTER COLUMN, if you only want to rename the column, drop the NOT NULL constraint, or change the data type, you can use the following set of dangerous commands:

PRAGMA writable_schema = 1;
UPDATE SQLITE_MASTER SET SQL = 'CREATE TABLE BOOKS ( title TEXT NOT NULL, publication_date TEXT)' WHERE NAME = 'BOOKS';
PRAGMA writable_schema = 0;

You will need to either close and reopen your connection or vacuum the database to reload the changes into the schema.

For example:

Y:\> **sqlite3 booktest**
SQLite version 3.7.4
Enter ".help" for instructions
Enter SQL statements terminated with a ";"
sqlite> **create table BOOKS ( title TEXT NOT NULL, publication_date TEXT NOT
NULL);**
sqlite> **insert into BOOKS VALUES ("NULLTEST",null);**
Error: BOOKS.publication_date may not be NULL
sqlite> **PRAGMA writable_schema = 1;**
sqlite> **UPDATE SQLITE_MASTER SET SQL = 'CREATE TABLE BOOKS ( title TEXT NOT
NULL, publication_date TEXT)' WHERE NAME = 'BOOKS';**
sqlite> **PRAGMA writable_schema = 0;**
sqlite> **.q**

Y:\> **sqlite3 booktest**
SQLite version 3.7.4
Enter ".help" for instructions
Enter SQL statements terminated with a ";"
sqlite> **insert into BOOKS VALUES ("NULLTEST",null);**
sqlite> **.q**

pragma writable_schema
When this pragma is on, the SQLITE_MASTER tables in which database can be changed using ordinary UPDATE, INSERT, and DELETE statements. Warning: misuse of this pragma can easily result in a corrupt database file.

[alter table](From http://www.sqlite.org/lang_altertable.html)
SQLite supports a limited subset of ALTER TABLE. The ALTER TABLE command in SQLite allows the user to rename a table or to add a new column to an existing table. It is not possible to rename a column, remove a column, or add or remove constraints from a table.

Maximum call stack size exceeded on npm install

If your default npm registry is something other than the public npm repository (you can check this by going to your .npmrc file or checking your npm config via npm CLI commands), you could try unsetting the registry config so it points back to the public npm repository. Then run npm install again.

If you have dependencies that aren't available in the public npm repository, try temporarily removing those dependencies from package.json. This will allow you to run npm install. Finally, revert the dependencies and registry config you removed and run npm install one last time to install the rest of your dependencies.

What is the best way to insert source code examples into a Microsoft Word document?

It kind of depends on the IDE. Both Visual Studio and Eclipse, for example, will allow you to copy as RTF and paste into Word, keeping all your formatting.

Notepad++ has a plugin called "NppExport" (comes pre-installed) that allows you to copy to RTF, though I don't care much for Notepad++'s syntax highlighting (it'd definitely be passable though). What it does do is support dozens of languages, whereas the aforementioned IDEs are limited to a handful each (without other plug-ins).

java Compare two dates

Difference between JPanel, JFrame, JComponent, and JApplet

You might find it useful to lookup the classes on oracle. Eg:

http://download.oracle.com/javase/1.4.2/docs/api/javax/swing/JFrame.html

There you can see that JFrame extends JComponent and JContainer.

JComponent is a a basic object that can be drawn, JContainer extends this so that you can add components to it. JPanel and JFrame both extend JComponent as you can add things to them. JFrame provides a window, whereas JPanel is just a panel that goes inside a window. If that makes sense.

JavaScript: Passing parameters to a callback function

Let me give you a very plain Node.js style example of using a callback:

/**
 * Function expects these arguments:
 * 2 numbers and a callback function(err, result)
 */
var myTest = function(arg1, arg2, callback) {
  if (typeof arg1 !== "number") {
    return callback('Arg 1 is not a number!', null); // Args: 1)Error, 2)No result
  }
  if (typeof arg2 !== "number") {
    return callback('Arg 2 is not a number!', null); // Args: 1)Error, 2)No result
  }
  if (arg1 === arg2) {
    // Do somethign complex here..
    callback(null, 'Actions ended, arg1 was equal to arg2'); // Args: 1)No error, 2)Result
  } else if (arg1 > arg2) {
    // Do somethign complex here..
    callback(null, 'Actions ended, arg1 was > from arg2'); // Args: 1)No error, 2)Result
  } else {
    // Do somethign else complex here..
    callback(null, 'Actions ended, arg1 was < from arg2'); // Args: 1)No error, 2)Result
  }
};

/**
 * Call it this way:
 * Third argument is an anonymous function with 2 args for error and result
 */
myTest(3, 6, function(err, result) {
  var resultElement = document.getElementById("my_result");
  if (err) {
    resultElement.innerHTML = 'Error! ' + err;
    resultElement.style.color = "red";
    //throw err; // if you want
  } else {
    resultElement.innerHTML = 'Result: ' + result;
    resultElement.style.color = "green";
  }
});

and the HTML that will render the result:

<div id="my_result">
  Result will come here!
</div>

You can play with it here: https://jsfiddle.net/q8gnvcts/ - for example try to pass string instead of number: myTest('some string', 6, function(err, result).. and see the result.

I hope this example helps because it represents the very basic idea of callback functions.

How do you put an image file in a json object?

I can think of doing it in two ways:

1.

Storing the file in file system in any directory (say dir1) and renaming it which ensures that the name is unique for every file (may be a timestamp) (say xyz123.jpg), and then storing this name in some DataBase. Then while generating the JSON you pull this filename and generate a complete URL (which will be http://example.com/dir1/xyz123.png )and insert it in the JSON.

2.

Base 64 Encoding, It's basically a way of encoding arbitrary binary data in ASCII text. It takes 4 characters per 3 bytes of data, plus potentially a bit of padding at the end. Essentially each 6 bits of the input is encoded in a 64-character alphabet. The "standard" alphabet uses A-Z, a-z, 0-9 and + and /, with = as a padding character. There are URL-safe variants. So this approach will allow you to put your image directly in the MongoDB, while storing it Encode the image and decode while fetching it, it has some of its own drawbacks:

  • base64 encoding makes file sizes roughly 33% larger than their original binary representations, which means more data down the wire (this might be exceptionally painful on mobile networks)
  • data URIs aren’t supported on IE6 or IE7.
  • base64 encoded data may possibly take longer to process than binary data.

Converting Image to DATA URI

A.) Canvas

Load the image into an Image-Object, paint it to a canvas and convert the canvas back to a dataURL.

function convertToDataURLviaCanvas(url, callback, outputFormat){
    var img = new Image();
    img.crossOrigin = 'Anonymous';
    img.onload = function(){
        var canvas = document.createElement('CANVAS');
        var ctx = canvas.getContext('2d');
        var dataURL;
        canvas.height = this.height;
        canvas.width = this.width;
        ctx.drawImage(this, 0, 0);
        dataURL = canvas.toDataURL(outputFormat);
        callback(dataURL);
        canvas = null;
    };
    img.src = url;
}

Usage

convertToDataURLviaCanvas('http://bit.ly/18g0VNp', function(base64Img){
    // Base64DataURL
});

Supported input formats image/png, image/jpeg, image/jpg, image/gif, image/bmp, image/tiff, image/x-icon, image/svg+xml, image/webp, image/xxx

B.) FileReader

Load the image as blob via XMLHttpRequest and use the FileReader API to convert it to a data URL.

function convertFileToBase64viaFileReader(url, callback){
    var xhr = new XMLHttpRequest();
    xhr.responseType = 'blob';
    xhr.onload = function() {
      var reader  = new FileReader();
      reader.onloadend = function () {
          callback(reader.result);
      }
      reader.readAsDataURL(xhr.response);
    };
    xhr.open('GET', url);
    xhr.send();
}

This approach

  • lacks in browser support
  • has better compression
  • works for other file types as well.

Usage

convertFileToBase64viaFileReader('http://bit.ly/18g0VNp', function(base64Img){
    // Base64DataURL
});

SQL to generate a list of numbers from 1 to 100

If you want your integers to be bound between two integers (i.e. start with something other than 1), you can use something like this:

with bnd as (select 4 lo, 9 hi from dual)
select (select lo from bnd) - 1 + level r
from dual
connect by level <= (select hi-lo from bnd);

It gives:

AngularJS: ng-model not binding to ng-checked for checkboxes

ngModel and ngChecked are not meant to be used together.

ngChecked is expecting an expression, so by saying ng-checked="true", you're basically saying that the checkbox will always be checked by default.

You should be able to just use ngModel, tied to a boolean property on your model. If you want something else, then you either need to use ngTrueValue and ngFalseValue (which only support strings right now), or write your own directive.

What is it exactly that you're trying to do? If you just want the first checkbox to be checked by default, you should change your model -- item1: true,.

Edit: You don't have to submit your form to debug the current state of the model, btw, you can just dump {{testModel}} into your HTML (or <pre>{{testModel|json}}</pre>). Also your ngModel attributes can be simplified to ng-model="testModel.item1".

Example :

protected override bool ProcessCmdKey(ref Message msg, Keys keyData)

What does "app.run(host='0.0.0.0') " mean in Flask

To answer to your second question. You can just hit the IP address of the machine that your flask app is running, e.g. 192.168.1.100 in a browser on different machine on the same network and you are there. Though, you will not be able to access it if you are on a different network. Firewalls or VLans can cause you problems with reaching your application. If that computer has a public IP, then you can hit that IP from anywhere on the planet and you will be able to reach the app. Usually this might impose some configuration, since most of the public servers are behind some sort of router or firewall.

My Application Could not open ServletContext resource

Quote from the Spring reference doc:

Upon initialization of a DispatcherServlet, Spring MVC looks for a file named [servlet-name]-servlet.xml in the WEB-INF directory of your web application and creates the beans defined there...

Your servlet is called spring-dispatcher, so it looks for /WEB-INF/spring-dispatcher-servlet.xml. You need to have this servlet configuration, and define web related beans in there (like controllers, view resolvers, etc). See the linked documentation for clarification on the relation of servlet contexts to the global application context (which is the app-config.xml in your case).

One more thing, if you don't like the naming convention of the servlet config xml, you can specify your config explicitly:

<servlet>
    <servlet-name>spring-dispatcher</servlet-name>
    <servlet-class>org.springframework.web.servlet.DispatcherServlet</servlet-class>
    <init-param>
        <param-name>contextConfigLocation</param-name>
        <param-value>/WEB-INF/spring/appServlet/servlet-context.xml</param-value>
    </init-param>
    <load-on-startup>1</load-on-startup>
</servlet>

Apple Worldwide Developer Relations Intermediate Certificate Expiration

To help protect customers and developers, we require that all third party apps, passes for Apple Wallet, Safari Extensions, Safari Push Notifications, and App Store purchase receipts are signed by a trusted certificate authority. The Apple Worldwide Developer Relations Certificate Authority issues the certificates you use to sign your software for Apple devices, allowing our systems to confirm that your software is delivered to users as intended and has not been modified.

The Apple Worldwide Developer Relations Certification Intermediate Certificate expires soon and we've issued a renewed certificate that must be included when signing all new Apple Wallet Passes, push packages for Safari Push Notifications, and Safari Extensions starting February 14, 2016.

While most developers and users will not be affected by the certificate change, we recommend that all developers download and install the renewed certificate on their development systems and servers as a best practice. All apps will remain available on the App Store for iOS, Mac, and Apple TV.

Since different methods can be used for validating receipts and delivering remote notifications, we recommend that you test your services to ensure no implementation-specific issues exist. Your apps may experience receipt verification failure if the receipt checking code makes incorrect assumptions about the certificate. Make sure that your code adheres to the Receipt Validation Programming Guide and resolve all receipt validation issues before February 14, 2016.

css3 text-shadow in IE9

I tried out the filters referenced above and strongly disliked the effect it created. I also didn't want to use any plugins since they'd slow down loading time for what seems like such a basic effect.

In my case I was looking for a text shadow with a 0px blur, which means the shadow is an exact replica of the text but just offset and behind. This effect can be easily recreated with jquery.

<script>
    var shadowText = $(".ie9 .normalText").html();
    $(".ie9 .normalText").before('<div class="shadow">' + shadowText + '</div>');
</script>
<style>
    .ie9 .shadow { position: relative; top: 2px; left: -3px; }
</style>

This will create an identical effect to the css3 text-shadow below.

    text-shadow: -3px 2px 0px rgba(0, 0, 0, 1.0);

here's a working example (see the large white text over the main banner image) http://www.cb.restaurantconnectinc.com/

Add / remove input field dynamically with jQuery

You can try this:

Use different Python version with virtualenv

It worked for me on windows with python 2 installation :

  1. Step 1: Install python 3 version .
  2. Step 2: create a env folder for the virtual environment.
  3. Step 3 : c:\Python37\python -m venv c:\path\to\env.

This is how i created Python 3 virtual environment on my existing python 2 installation.

mysql is not recognised as an internal or external command,operable program or batch

In my case, I resolved it by adding this path C:\xampp\mysql\bin to system variables path and then restarted pash/cmd.

Note: Click me if you don't know how to set the path and system variables.

How do I get the result of a command in a variable in windows?

You can capture all output in one variable, but the lines will be separated by a character of your choice (# in the example below) instead of an actual CR-LF.

@echo off
setlocal EnableDelayedExpansion
for /f "delims=" %%i in ('dir /b') do (
    if "!DIR!"=="" (set DIR=%%i) else (set DIR=!DIR!#%%i)
)
echo directory contains:
echo %DIR%

Second version, if you need to print the contents out line-by-line. This takes advanted of the fact that there won't be duplicate lines of output from "dir /b", so it may not work in the general case.

@echo off
setlocal EnableDelayedExpansion
set count=0
for /f "delims=" %%i in ('dir /b') do (
    if "!DIR!"=="" (set DIR=%%i) else (set DIR=!DIR!#%%i)
    set /a count = !count! + 1
)

echo directory contains:
echo %DIR%

for /l %%c in (1,1,%count%) do (
    for /f "delims=#" %%i in ("!DIR!") do (
        echo %%i
        set DIR=!DIR:%%i=!
    )
)

How can I discover the "path" of an embedded resource?

The name of the resource is the name space plus the "pseudo" name space of the path to the file. The "pseudo" name space is made by the sub folder structure using \ (backslashes) instead of . (dots).

public static Stream GetResourceFileStream(String nameSpace, String filePath)
{
    String pseduoName = filePath.Replace('\\', '.');
    Assembly assembly = Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly();
    return assembly.GetManifestResourceStream(nameSpace + "." + pseduoName);
}

The following call:

GetResourceFileStream("my.namespace", "resources\\xml\\my.xml")

will return the stream of my.xml located in the folder-structure resources\xml in the name space: my.namespace.

'module' has no attribute 'urlencode'

You use the Python 2 docs but write your program in Python 3.

How to calculate rolling / moving average using NumPy / SciPy?

talib contains a simple moving average tool, as well as other similar averaging tools (i.e. exponential moving average). Below compares the method to some of the other solutions.

%timeit pd.Series(np.arange(100000)).rolling(3).mean()
2.53 ms ± 40.5 µs per loop (mean ± std. dev. of 7 runs, 100 loops each)

%timeit talib.SMA(real = np.arange(100000.), timeperiod = 3)
348 µs ± 3.5 µs per loop (mean ± std. dev. of 7 runs, 1000 loops each)

%timeit moving_average(np.arange(100000))
638 µs ± 45.1 µs per loop (mean ± std. dev. of 7 runs, 1000 loops each)

One caveat is that the real must have elements of dtype = float. Otherwise the following error is raised

Exception: real is not double

Declare a variable as Decimal

The best way is to declare the variable as a Single or a Double depending on the precision you need. The data type Single utilizes 4 Bytes and has the range of -3.402823E38 to 1.401298E45. Double uses 8 Bytes.

You can declare as follows:

Dim decAsdf as Single

or

Dim decAsdf as Double

Here is an example which displays a message box with the value of the variable after calculation. All you have to do is put it in a module and run it.

Sub doubleDataTypeExample()
Dim doubleTest As Double

doubleTest = 0.0000045 * 0.005 * 0.01

MsgBox "doubleTest = " & doubleTest
End Sub

C# List<string> to string with delimiter

You can use String.Join. If you have a List<string> then you can call ToArray first:

List<string> names = new List<string>() { "John", "Anna", "Monica" };
var result = String.Join(", ", names.ToArray());

In .NET 4 you don't need the ToArray anymore, since there is an overload of String.Join that takes an IEnumerable<string>.

Results:

John, Anna, Monica

Creating temporary files in bash

You might want to look at mktemp

The mktemp utility takes the given filename template and overwrites a portion of it to create a unique filename. The template may be any filename with some number of 'Xs' appended to it, for example /tmp/tfile.XXXXXXXXXX. The trailing 'Xs' are replaced with a combination of the current process number and random letters.

For more details: man mktemp

How to Pass Parameters to Activator.CreateInstance<T>()

As an alternative to Activator.CreateInstance, FastObjectFactory in the linked url preforms better than Activator (as of .NET 4.0 and significantly better than .NET 3.5. No tests/stats done with .NET 4.5). See StackOverflow post for stats, info and code:

How to pass ctor args in Activator.CreateInstance or use IL?

Undefined reference to main - collect2: ld returned 1 exit status

One possibility which has not been mentioned so far is that you might not be editing the file you think you are. i.e. your editor might have a different cwd than you had in mind.

Run 'more' on the file you're compiling to double check that it does indeed have the contents you hope it does. Hope that helps!

Javascript change color of text and background to input value

Things seems a little confused in the code in your question, so I am going to give you an example of what I think you are try to do.

First considerations are about mixing HTML, Javascript and CSS:

Why is using onClick() in HTML a bad practice?

Unobtrusive Javascript

Inline Styles vs Classes

I will be removing inline content and splitting these into their appropriate files.

Next, I am going to go with the "click" event and displose of the "change" event, as it is not clear that you want or need both.

Your function changeBackground sets both the backround color and the text color to the same value (your text will not be seen), so I am caching the color value as we don't need to look it up in the DOM twice.

CSS

#TheForm {
    margin-left: 396px;
}
#submitColor {
    margin-left: 48px;
    margin-top: 5px;
}

HTML

<form id="TheForm">
    <input id="color" type="text" />
    <br/>
    <input id="submitColor" value="Submit" type="button" />
</form>
<span id="coltext">This text should have the same color as you put in the text box</span>

Javascript

function changeBackground() {
    var color = document.getElementById("color").value; // cached

    // The working function for changing background color.
    document.bgColor = color;

    // The code I'd like to use for changing the text simultaneously - however it does not work.
    document.getElementById("coltext").style.color = color;
}

document.getElementById("submitColor").addEventListener("click", changeBackground, false);

Color Values

CSS colors are defined using a hexadecimal (hex) notation for the combination of Red, Green, and Blue color values (RGB). The lowest value that can be given to one of the light sources is 0 (hex 00). The highest value is 255 (hex FF).

Hex values are written as 3 double digit numbers, starting with a # sign.

Update: as pointed out by @Ian

Hex can be either 3 or 6 characters long

Source: W3C

Numerical color values

The format of an RGB value in hexadecimal notation is a ‘#’ immediately followed by either three or six hexadecimal characters. The three-digit RGB notation (#rgb) is converted into six-digit form (#rrggbb) by replicating digits, not by adding zeros. For example, #fb0 expands to #ffbb00. This ensures that white (#ffffff) can be specified with the short notation (#fff) and removes any dependencies on the color depth of the display.

Here is an alternative function that will check that your input is a valid CSS Hex Color, it will set the text color only or throw an alert if it is not valid.

For regex testing, I will use this pattern

/^#(?:[0-9a-f]{3}){1,2}$/i

but if you were regex matching and wanted to break the numbers into groups then you would require a different pattern

function changeBackground() {
    var color = document.getElementById("color").value.trim(),
        rxValidHex = /^#(?:[0-9a-f]{3}){1,2}$/i;

    if (rxValidHex.test(color)) {
        document.getElementById("coltext").style.color = color;
    } else {
        alert("Invalid CSS Hex Color");
    }
}

document.getElementById("submitColor").addEventListener("click", changeBackground, false);

On jsfiddle

Here is a further modification that will allow colours by name along with by hex.

function changeBackground() {
    var names = ["AliceBlue", "AntiqueWhite", "Aqua", "Aquamarine", "Azure", "Beige", "Bisque", "Black", "BlanchedAlmond", "Blue", "BlueViolet", "Brown", "BurlyWood", "CadetBlue", "Chartreuse", "Chocolate", "Coral", "CornflowerBlue", "Cornsilk", "Crimson", "Cyan", "DarkBlue", "DarkCyan", "DarkGoldenRod", "DarkGray", "DarkGrey", "DarkGreen", "DarkKhaki", "DarkMagenta", "DarkOliveGreen", "Darkorange", "DarkOrchid", "DarkRed", "DarkSalmon", "DarkSeaGreen", "DarkSlateBlue", "DarkSlateGray", "DarkSlateGrey", "DarkTurquoise", "DarkViolet", "DeepPink", "DeepSkyBlue", "DimGray", "DimGrey", "DodgerBlue", "FireBrick", "FloralWhite", "ForestGreen", "Fuchsia", "Gainsboro", "GhostWhite", "Gold", "GoldenRod", "Gray", "Grey", "Green", "GreenYellow", "HoneyDew", "HotPink", "IndianRed", "Indigo", "Ivory", "Khaki", "Lavender", "LavenderBlush", "LawnGreen", "LemonChiffon", "LightBlue", "LightCoral", "LightCyan", "LightGoldenRodYellow", "LightGray", "LightGrey", "LightGreen", "LightPink", "LightSalmon", "LightSeaGreen", "LightSkyBlue", "LightSlateGray", "LightSlateGrey", "LightSteelBlue", "LightYellow", "Lime", "LimeGreen", "Linen", "Magenta", "Maroon", "MediumAquaMarine", "MediumBlue", "MediumOrchid", "MediumPurple", "MediumSeaGreen", "MediumSlateBlue", "MediumSpringGreen", "MediumTurquoise", "MediumVioletRed", "MidnightBlue", "MintCream", "MistyRose", "Moccasin", "NavajoWhite", "Navy", "OldLace", "Olive", "OliveDrab", "Orange", "OrangeRed", "Orchid", "PaleGoldenRod", "PaleGreen", "PaleTurquoise", "PaleVioletRed", "PapayaWhip", "PeachPuff", "Peru", "Pink", "Plum", "PowderBlue", "Purple", "Red", "RosyBrown", "RoyalBlue", "SaddleBrown", "Salmon", "SandyBrown", "SeaGreen", "SeaShell", "Sienna", "Silver", "SkyBlue", "SlateBlue", "SlateGray", "SlateGrey", "Snow", "SpringGreen", "SteelBlue", "Tan", "Teal", "Thistle", "Tomato", "Turquoise", "Violet", "Wheat", "White", "WhiteSmoke", "Yellow", "YellowGreen"],
        color = document.getElementById("color").value.trim(),
        rxValidHex = /^#(?:[0-9a-f]{3}){1,2}$/i,
        formattedName = color.charAt(0).toUpperCase() + color.slice(1).toLowerCase();

    if (names.indexOf(formattedName) !== -1 || rxValidHex.test(color)) {
        document.getElementById("coltext").style.color = color;
    } else {
        alert("Invalid CSS Color");

creating array without declaring the size - java

How about this

    private Object element[] = new Object[] {};

Resize on div element

I was only interested for a trigger when a width of an element was changed (I don' care about height), so I created a jquery event that does exactly that, using an invisible iframe element.

$.event.special.widthChanged = {
  remove: function() {
      $(this).children('iframe.width-changed').remove();
  },
  add: function () {
      var elm = $(this);
      var iframe = elm.children('iframe.width-changed');
      if (!iframe.length) {
          iframe = $('<iframe/>').addClass('width-changed').prependTo(this);
      }
      var oldWidth = elm.width();
      function elmResized() {
          var width = elm.width();
          if (oldWidth != width) {
              elm.trigger('widthChanged', [width, oldWidth]);
              oldWidth = width;
          }
      }

      var timer = 0;
      var ielm = iframe[0];
      (ielm.contentWindow || ielm).onresize = function() {
          clearTimeout(timer);
          timer = setTimeout(elmResized, 20);
      };
  }
}

It requires the following css :

iframe.width-changed {
    width: 100%;
    display: block;
    border: 0;
    height: 0;
    margin: 0;
}

You can see it in action here widthChanged fiddle

Linux/Unix command to determine if process is running?

This approach can be used in case commands 'ps', 'pidof' and rest are not available. I personally use procfs very frequently in my tools/scripts/programs.

   egrep -m1  "mysqld$|httpd$" /proc/[0-9]*/status | cut -d'/' -f3

Little explanation what is going on:

  1. -m1 - stop process on first match
  2. "mysqld$|httpd$" - grep will match lines which ended on mysqld OR httpd
  3. /proc/[0-9]* - bash will match line which started with any number
  4. cut - just split the output by delimiter '/' and extract field 3

Remove NaN from pandas series

>>> s[~s.isnull()]
0    1
1    2

3    4
5    5

update or even better approach as @DSM suggested in comments, using pandas.Series.dropna():

>>> s.dropna()
0    1
1    2
2    3
3    4

How to select clear table contents without destroying the table?

I use this code to remove my data but leave the formulas in the top row. It also removes all rows except for the top row and scrolls the page up to the top.

    If ActiveSheet.FilterMode Then
    Selection.AutoFilter
    End If
    'Clear all lines but the first one in the table leaving formulas for the next go round.
    With Worksheets("Data").ListObjects("TestTable")
    .Range.AutoFilter
    On Error Resume Next
    .DataBodyRange.Offset(1).Resize(.DataBodyRange.Rows.Count - 1, .DataBodyRange.Columns.Count).Rows.Delete
    .DataBodyRange.Rows(1).SpecialCells(xlCellTypeConstants).ClearContents

ReactJS - Call One Component Method From Another Component

Well, actually, React is not suitable for calling child methods from the parent. Some frameworks, like Cycle.js, allow easily access data both from parent and child, and react to it.

Also, there is a good chance you don't really need it. Consider calling it into existing component, it is much more independent solution. But sometimes you still need it, and then you have few choices:

  • Pass method down, if it is a child (the easiest one, and it is one of the passed properties)
  • add events library; in React ecosystem Flux approach is the most known, with Redux library. You separate all events into separated state and actions, and dispatch them from components
  • if you need to use function from the child in a parent component, you can wrap in a third component, and clone parent with augmented props.

UPD: if you need to share some functionality which doesn't involve any state (like static functions in OOP), then there is no need to contain it inside components. Just declare it separately and invoke when need:

let counter = 0;
function handleInstantiate() {
   counter++;
}

constructor(props) {
   super(props);
   handleInstantiate();
}

Android read text raw resource file

Rather do it this way:

// reads resources regardless of their size
public byte[] getResource(int id, Context context) throws IOException {
    Resources resources = context.getResources();
    InputStream is = resources.openRawResource(id);

    ByteArrayOutputStream bout = new ByteArrayOutputStream();

    byte[] readBuffer = new byte[4 * 1024];

    try {
        int read;
        do {
            read = is.read(readBuffer, 0, readBuffer.length);
            if(read == -1) {
                break;
            }
            bout.write(readBuffer, 0, read);
        } while(true);

        return bout.toByteArray();
    } finally {
        is.close();
    }
}

    // reads a string resource
public String getStringResource(int id, Charset encoding) throws IOException {
    return new String(getResource(id, getContext()), encoding);
}

    // reads an UTF-8 string resource
public String getStringResource(int id) throws IOException {
    return new String(getResource(id, getContext()), Charset.forName("UTF-8"));
}

From an Activity, add

public byte[] getResource(int id) throws IOException {
        return getResource(id, this);
}

or from a test case, add

public byte[] getResource(int id) throws IOException {
        return getResource(id, getContext());
}

And watch your error handling - don't catch and ignore exceptions when your resources must exist or something is (very?) wrong.

JavaScript object: access variable property by name as string

You don't need a function for it - simply use the bracket notation:

var side = columns['right'];

This is equal to dot notation, var side = columns.right;, except the fact that right could also come from a variable, function return value, etc., when using bracket notation.

If you NEED a function for it, here it is:

function read_prop(obj, prop) {
    return obj[prop];
}

To answer some of the comments below that aren't directly related to the original question, nested objects can be referenced through multiple brackets. If you have a nested object like so:

var foo = { a: 1, b: 2, c: {x: 999, y:998, z: 997}};

you can access property x of c as follows:

var cx = foo['c']['x']

If a property is undefined, an attempt to reference it will return undefined (not null or false):

foo['c']['q'] === null
// returns false

foo['c']['q'] === false
// returns false

foo['c']['q'] === undefined
// returns true

The Excel 2007 "Big Grid" increases the maximum number of rows per worksheet from 65,536 to over 1 million, and the number of columns from 256 (IV) to 16,384 (XFD). from here http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa730921.aspx#Office2007excelPerf_BigGridIncreasedLimitsExcel

How to add a "open git-bash here..." context menu to the windows explorer?

How do I use modulus for float/double?

fmod is the standard C function for handling floating-point modulus; I imagine your source was saying that Java handles floating-point modulus the same as C's fmod function. In Java you can use the % operator on doubles the same as on integers:

int x = 5 % 3; // x = 2
double y = .5 % .3; // y = .2

CSS rounded corners in IE8

Internet Explorer (under version 9) does not natively support rounded corners.

There's an amazing script that will magically add it for you: CSS3 PIE.

I've used it a lot of times, with amazing results.

biggest integer that can be stored in a double

It is true that, for 64-bit IEEE754 double, all integers up to 9007199254740992 == 2^53 can be exactly represented.

However, it is also worth mentioning that all representable numbers beyond 4503599627370496 == 2^52 are integers. Beyond 2^52 it becomes meaningless to test whether or not they are integers, because they are all implicitly rounded to a nearby representable value.

In the range 2^51 to 2^52, the only non-integer values are the midpoints ending with ".5", meaning any integer test after a calculation must be expected to yield at least 50% false answers.

Below 2^51 we also have ".25" and ".75", so comparing a number with its rounded counterpart in order to determine if it may be integer or not starts making some sense.

TLDR: If you want to test whether a calculated result may be integer, avoid numbers larger than 2251799813685248 == 2^51

Shrinking navigation bar when scrolling down (bootstrap3)

I am using this code for my project

$(window).scroll ( function() {
    if ($(document).scrollTop() > 50) {
        document.getElementById('your-div').style.height = '100px'; //For eg
    } else {
        document.getElementById('your-div').style.height = '150px';

How do I check whether a file exists without exceptions?

import os
#Your path here e.g. "C:\Program Files\text.txt"
#For access purposes: "C:\\Program Files\\text.txt"
if os.path.exists("C:\..."):
    print "File found!"
else:
    print "File not found!"

Importing os makes it easier to navigate and perform standard actions with your operating system.

For reference also see How to check whether a file exists using Python?

If you need high-level operations, use shutil.

What is the difference between "::" "." and "->" in c++

In C++ you can access fields or methods, using different operators, depending on it's type:

  • ClassName::FieldName : class public static field and methods
  • ClassInstance.FieldName : accessing a public field (or method) through class reference
  • ClassPointer->FieldName : accessing a public field (or method) dereferencing a class pointer

Note that :: should be used with a class name rather than a class instance, since static fields or methods are common to all instances of a class.

class AClass{
public:
static int static_field;
int instance_field;

static void static_method();
void method();
};

then you access this way:

AClass instance;
AClass *pointer = new AClass();

instance.instance_field; //access instance_field through a reference to AClass
instance.method();

pointer->instance_field; //access instance_field through a pointer to AClass
pointer->method();

AClass::static_field;
AClass::static_method();

How do I import a namespace in Razor View Page?

In ASP.NET MVC 3 Preview1 you can import a namespace on all your razor views with this code in Global.asax.cs

Microsoft.WebPages.Compilation.CodeGeneratorSettings.AddGlobalImport("Namespace.Namespace");

I hope in RTM this gets done through Web.config section.

MySQL count occurrences greater than 2

To get a list of the words that appear more than once together with how often they occur, use a combination of GROUP BY and HAVING:

SELECT word, COUNT(*) AS cnt
FROM words
GROUP BY word
HAVING cnt > 1

To find the number of words in the above result set, use that as a subquery and count the rows in an outer query:

SELECT COUNT(*)
FROM
(
    SELECT NULL
    FROM words
    GROUP BY word
    HAVING COUNT(*) > 1
) T1

Can a local variable's memory be accessed outside its scope?

It works because the stack has not been altered (yet) since a was put there. Call a few other functions (which are also calling other functions) before accessing a again and you will probably not be so lucky anymore... ;-)

How to redirect docker container logs to a single file?

No need to redirect logs.

Docker by default store logs to one log file. To check log file path run command:

docker inspect --format='{{.LogPath}}' containername

/var/lib/docker/containers/f844a7b45ca5a9589ffaa1a5bd8dea0f4e79f0e2ff639c1d010d96afb4b53334/f844a7b45ca5a9589ffaa1a5bd8dea0f4e79f0e2ff639c1d010d96afb4b53334-json.log

Open that log file and analyse.

if you redirect logs then you will only get logs before redirection. you will not be able to see live logs.

EDIT:

To see live logs you can run below command

tail -f `docker inspect --format='{{.LogPath}}' containername`

Note:

This log file /var/lib/docker/containers/f844a7b45ca5a9589ffaa1a5bd8dea0f4e79f0e2ff639c1d010d96afb4b53334/f844a7b45ca5a9589ffaa1a5bd8dea0f4e79f0e2ff639c1d010d96afb4b53334-json.log will be created only if docker generating logs if there is no logs then this file will not be there. it is similar like sometime if we run command docker logs containername and it returns nothing. In that scenario this file will not be available.

Export table data from one SQL Server to another

If the tables are already created using the scripts, then there is another way to copy the data is by using BCP command to copy all the data from your source server to your destination server

To export the table data into a text file on source server:

bcp <database name>.<schema name>.<table name> OUT C:\FILE.TXT -c -t -T -S <server_name[ \instance_name]> -U <username> -P <Password>

To import the table data from a text file on target server:

bcp <database name>.<schema name>.<table name> IN C:\FILE.TXT -c -t -T -S <server_name[ \instance_name]> -U <username> -P <Password>

Marquee text in Android

With the above answer, you cannot set the speed or have flexibility for customizing the text view functionality. To have your own scroll speed and flexibility to customize marquee properties, use the following:

<TextView
    android:layout_width="match_parent"
    android:layout_height="wrap_content"
    android:ellipsize="marquee"
    android:fadingEdge="horizontal"
    android:lines="1"
    android:id="@+id/myTextView"
    android:padding="4dp"
    android:scrollHorizontally="true"
    android:singleLine="true"
    android:text="Simple application that shows how to use marquee, with a long text" />

Within your activity:

private void setTranslation() {
        TranslateAnimation tanim = new TranslateAnimation(
                TranslateAnimation.ABSOLUTE, 1.0f * screenWidth,
                TranslateAnimation.ABSOLUTE, -1.0f * screenWidth,
                TranslateAnimation.ABSOLUTE, 0.0f,
                TranslateAnimation.ABSOLUTE, 0.0f);
        tanim.setDuration(1000);//set the duration
        tanim.setInterpolator(new LinearInterpolator());
        tanim.setRepeatCount(Animation.INFINITE);
        tanim.setRepeatMode(Animation.ABSOLUTE);

        textView.startAnimation(tanim);
    }

Best radio-button implementation for IOS

Just want to sum up, there might be 4 ways.

  • If you don't have much space, add a click event for text or button, then show UIPickerView:

UIPickerView

or open a new table view control with a check mark:

UITableView

  • If there is more space, add a table view directly to your main view:

  • The final solution is using UISegmentedControl:

How do you launch the JavaScript debugger in Google Chrome?

Ctrl + Shift + J opens Developer Tools.

Run cmd commands through Java

You can't run cd this way, because cd isn't a real program; it's a built-in part of the command-line, and all it does is change the command-line's environment. It doesn't make sense to run it in a subprocess, because then you're changing that subprocess's environment — but that subprocess closes immediately, discarding its environment.

To set the current working directory in your actual Java program, you should write:

System.setProperty("user.dir", "C:\\Program Files\\Flowella");

RecyclerView and java.lang.IndexOutOfBoundsException: Inconsistency detected. Invalid view holder adapter positionViewHolder in Samsung devices

This bug is still not fixed in 23.1.1, but a common workaround would be to catch the exception.

How do I read configuration settings from Symfony2 config.yml?

I have to add to the answer of douglas, you can access the global config, but symfony translates some parameters, for example:

# config.yml
...
framework:
    session:
        domain: 'localhost'
...

are

$this->container->parameters['session.storage.options']['domain'];

You can use var_dump to search an specified key or value.

Is there a pretty print for PHP?

I think the best solution for pretty printing json in php is to change the header:

header('Content-type: text/javascript');

(if you do text/json many browsers will prompt a download... facebook does text/javascript for their graph protocol so it must not be too bad)

More Pythonic Way to Run a Process X Times

Personally:

for _ in range(50):
    print "Some thing"

if you don't need i. If you use Python < 3 and you want to repeat the loop a lot of times, use xrange as there is no need to generate the whole list beforehand.

Resize iframe height according to content height in it

Here's my solution to the problem using MooTools which works in Firefox 3.6, Safari 4.0.4 and Internet Explorer 7:

var iframe_container = $('iframe_container_id');
var iframe_style = {
    height: 300,
    width: '100%'
};
if (!Browser.Engine.trident) {
    // IE has hasLayout issues if iframe display is none, so don't use the loading class
    iframe_container.addClass('loading');
    iframe_style.display = 'none';
}
this.iframe = new IFrame({
    frameBorder: 0,
    src: "http://www.youriframeurl.com/",
    styles: iframe_style,
    events: {
        'load': function() {
            var innerDoc = (this.contentDocument) ? this.contentDocument : this.contentWindow.document;
            var h = this.measure(function(){
                return innerDoc.body.scrollHeight;
            });
            this.setStyles({
                height: h.toInt(),
                display: 'block'
            });
            if (!Browser.Engine.trident) {
                iframe_container.removeClass('loading');
            }
        }
    }
}).inject(iframe_container);

Style the "loading" class to show an Ajax loading graphic in the middle of the iframe container. Then for browsers other than Internet Explorer, it will display the full height IFRAME once the loading of its content is complete and remove the loading graphic.

What is the most elegant way to check if all values in a boolean array are true?

OK. This is the "most elegant" solution I could come up with on the fly:

boolean allTrue = !Arrays.toString(myArray).contains("f");

Hope that helps!

Remove a child with a specific attribute, in SimpleXML for PHP

Just unset the node:

$str = <<<STR
<a>
  <b>
    <c>
    </c>
  </b>
</a>
STR;

$xml = simplexml_load_string($str);
unset($xml –> a –> b –> c); // this would remove node c
echo $xml –> asXML(); // xml document string without node c

This code was taken from How to delete / remove nodes in SimpleXML.

How to get the date from the DatePicker widget in Android?

If you are using Kotlin, you can define an extension function for DatePicker:

fun DatePicker.getDate(): Date {
    val calendar = Calendar.getInstance()
    calendar.set(year, month, dayOfMonth)
    return calendar.time
}

Then, it's just: datePicker.getDate(). As if it had always existed.

Getting all types in a namespace via reflection

Here's a fix for LoaderException errors you're likely to find if one of the types sublasses a type in another assembly:

// Setup event handler to resolve assemblies
AppDomain.CurrentDomain.ReflectionOnlyAssemblyResolve += new ResolveEventHandler(CurrentDomain_ReflectionOnlyAssemblyResolve);

Assembly a = System.Reflection.Assembly.ReflectionOnlyLoadFrom(filename);
a.GetTypes();
// process types here

// method later in the class:
static Assembly CurrentDomain_ReflectionOnlyAssemblyResolve(object sender, ResolveEventArgs args)
{
    return System.Reflection.Assembly.ReflectionOnlyLoad(args.Name);
}

That should help with loading types defined in other assemblies.

Hope that helps!

How to run a python script from IDLE interactive shell?

In a python console, one can try the following 2 ways.

under the same work directory,

1. >> import helloworld

# if you have a variable x, you can print it in the IDLE.

>> helloworld.x

# if you have a function func, you can also call it like this.

>> helloworld.func()

2. >> runfile("./helloworld.py")
