mingw-w64 threads: posix vs win32

Note that it is now possible to use some of C++11 std::thread in the win32 threading mode. These header-only adapters worked out of the box for me: https://github.com/meganz/mingw-std-threads

From the revision history it looks like there is some recent attempt to make this a part of the mingw64 runtime.

What JSON library to use in Scala?

I use uPickle which has the big advantage that it will handle nested case classes automatically:

object SerializingApp extends App {

  case class Person(name: String, address: Address)

  case class Address(street: String, town: String, zipCode: String)

  import upickle.default._

  val john = Person("John Doe", Address("Elm Street 1", "Springfield", "ABC123"))

  val johnAsJson = write(john)
  // Prints {"name":"John Doe","address":{"street":"Elm Street 1","town":"Springfield","zipCode":"ABC123"}}
  Console.println(johnAsJson)

  // Parse the JSON back into a Scala object
  Console.println(read[Person](johnAsJson))
}

Add this to your build.sbt to use uPickle:

libraryDependencies += "com.lihaoyi" %% "upickle" % "0.4.3"

How to restart kubernetes nodes?

I had an onpremises HA installation, a master and a worker stopped working returning a NOTReady status. Checking the kubelet logs on the nodes I found out this problem:

failed to run Kubelet: Running with swap on is not supported, please disable swap! or set --fail-swap-on flag to false

Disabling swap on nodes with

swapoff -a

and restarting the kubelet

systemctl restart kubelet

did the work.

How to process each output line in a loop?

I would suggest using awk instead of grep + something else here.

java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError in junit

I had the same issue, the problem was in the @ContextConfiguration in me test classes, i was loading the servlet context too i just change:

@ContextConfiguration(locations = { "classpath*:**\*-context.xml", "classpath*:**\*-config.xml" })

to:

@ContextConfiguration(locations = { "classpath:**\*-context.xml", "classpath:**\*-config.xml" })

and that´s it. this way im only loading all the files with the pattern *-context.xml in me test path.

Razor view engine - How can I add Partial Views

If you don't want to duplicate code, and like me you just want to show stats, in your view model, you could just pass in the models you want to get data from like so:

public class GameViewModel
{
    public virtual Ship Ship { get; set; }
    public virtual GamePlayer GamePlayer { get; set; }
}

Then, in your controller just run your queries on the respective models, pass them to the view model and return it, example:

GameViewModel PlayerStats = new GameViewModel();

GamePlayer currentPlayer = (from c in db.GamePlayer [more queries]).FirstOrDefault();

[code to check if results]

//pass current player into custom view model
PlayerStats.GamePlayer = currentPlayer;

Like I said, you should only really do this if you want to display stats from the relevant tables, and there's no other part of the CRUD process happening, for security reasons other people have mentioned above.

Initializing an Array of Structs in C#

Change const to static readonly and initialise it like this

static readonly MyStruct[] MyArray = new[] {
    new MyStruct { label = "a", id = 1 },
    new MyStruct { label = "b", id = 5 },
    new MyStruct { label = "q", id = 29 }
};

Loop through an array of strings in Bash?

If you are using Korn shell, there is "set -A databaseName ", else there is "declare -a databaseName"

To write a script working on all shells,

 set -A databaseName=("db1" "db2" ....) ||
        declare -a databaseName=("db1" "db2" ....)
# now loop
for dbname in "${arr[@]}"
do
   echo "$dbname"  # or whatever

done

It should be work on all shells.

How to get JS variable to retain value after page refresh?

This is possible with window.localStorage or window.sessionStorage. The difference is that sessionStorage lasts for as long as the browser stays open, localStorage survives past browser restarts. The persistence applies to the entire web site not just a single page of it.

When you need to set a variable that should be reflected in the next page(s), use:

var someVarName = "value";
localStorage.setItem("someVarKey", someVarName);

And in any page (like when the page has loaded), get it like:

var someVarName = localStorage.getItem("someVarKey");

.getItem() will return null if no value stored, or the value stored.

Note that only string values can be stored in this storage, but this can be overcome by using JSON.stringify and JSON.parse. Technically, whenever you call .setItem(), it will call .toString() on the value and store that.

MDN's DOM storage guide (linked below), has workarounds/polyfills, that end up falling back to stuff like cookies, if localStorage isn't available.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to use an existing, or create your own mini library, that abstracts the ability to save any data type (like object literals, arrays, etc.).

string selectedItems = String.Join(",", CBLGold.Items.OfType<ListItem>().Where(r => r.Selected).Select(r => r.Value));

if you want to store Text not values then Change the r.Value to r.Text

We follow a.b.c approach like:

increament 'a' if there is some major changes happened in application. Like we upgrade .NET 1.1 application to .NET 3.5

increament 'b' if there is some minor changes like any new CR or Enhancement is implemented.

increament 'c' if there is some defects fixes in the code.

Top 1 with a left join

Use OUTER APPLY instead of LEFT JOIN:

SELECT u.id, mbg.marker_value
FROM dps_user u
OUTER APPLY
    (SELECT TOP 1 m.marker_value, um.profile_id
     FROM dps_usr_markers um (NOLOCK)
         INNER JOIN dps_markers m (NOLOCK)
             ON m.marker_id= um.marker_id AND
                m.marker_key = 'moneyBackGuaranteeLength'
     WHERE um.profile_id=u.id
     ORDER BY m.creation_date
    ) AS MBG
WHERE u.id = 'u162231993';

Unlike JOIN, APPLY allows you to reference the u.id inside the inner query.

How to horizontally align ul to center of div?

Make the left and right margins of your UL auto and assign it a width:

#headermenu ul {
    margin: 0 auto;
    width: 620px;
}

Edit: As kleinfreund has suggested, you can also center align the container and give the ul an inline-block display, but you then also have to give the LIs either a left float or an inline display.

#headermenu {
    text-align: center;
}
#headermenu ul {
    display: inline-block;
}
#headermenu ul li {
    float: left; /* or display: inline; */
}

Restful API service

There is another approach here which basically helps you to forget about the whole management of the requests. It is based on an async queue method and a callable/callback based response. The main advantage is that by using this method you'll be able to make the whole process (request, get and parse response, sabe to db) completely transparent for you. Once you get the response code the work is already done. After that you just need to make a call to your db and you are done. It helps as well with the problematic of what happens when your activity is not active. What will happen here is that you'll have all your data saved in your local database but the response won't be processed by your activity, that's the ideal way.

I wrote about a general approach here http://ugiagonzalez.com/2012/07/02/theres-life-after-asynctasks-in-android/

I'll be putting specific sample code in upcoming posts. Hope it helps, feel free to contact me for sharing the approach and solving potential doubts or issues.

How can I make the cursor turn to the wait cursor?

OK so I created a static async method. That disabled the control that launches the action and changes the application cursor. It runs the action as a task and waits for to finish. Control returns to the caller while it waits. So the application remains responsive, even while the busy icon spins.

async public static void LengthyOperation(Control control, Action action)
{
    try
    {
        control.Enabled = false;
        Application.UseWaitCursor = true;
        Task doWork = new Task(() => action(), TaskCreationOptions.LongRunning);
        Log.Info("Task Start");
        doWork.Start();
        Log.Info("Before Await");
        await doWork;
        Log.Info("After await");
    }
    finally
    {
        Log.Info("Finally");
        Application.UseWaitCursor = false;
        control.Enabled = true;
    }

Here's the code form the main form

    private void btnSleep_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
    {
        var control = sender as Control;
        if (control != null)
        {
            Log.Info("Launching lengthy operation...");
            CursorWait.LengthyOperation(control, () => DummyAction());
            Log.Info("...Lengthy operation launched.");
        }

    }

    private void DummyAction()
    {
        try
        {
            var _log = NLog.LogManager.GetLogger("TmpLogger");
            _log.Info("Action - Sleep");
            TimeSpan sleep = new TimeSpan(0, 0, 16);
            Thread.Sleep(sleep);
            _log.Info("Action - Wakeup");
        }
        finally
        {
        }
    }

I had to use a separate logger for the dummy action (I am using Nlog) and my main logger is writing to the UI (a rich text box). I wasn't able to get the busy cursor show only when over a particular container on the form (but I didn't try very hard.) All controls have a UseWaitCursor property, but it doesn't seem have any effect on the controls I tried (maybe because they weren't on top?)

Here's the main log, which shows things happening in the order we expect:

16:51:33.1064 Launching lengthy operation...
16:51:33.1215 Task Start
16:51:33.1215 Before Await
16:51:33.1215 ...Lengthy operation launched.
16:51:49.1276 After await
16:51:49.1537 Finally

Is CSS Turing complete?

One aspect of Turing completeness is the halting problem.

This means that, if CSS is Turing complete, then there's no general algorithm for determining whether a CSS program will finish running or loop forever.

But we can derive such an algorithm for CSS! Here it is:

  • If the stylesheet doesn't declare any animations, then it will halt.

  • If it does have animations, then:

    • If any animation-iteration-count is infinite, and the containing selector is matched in the HTML, then it will not halt.

    • Otherwise, it will halt.

That's it. Since we just solved the halting problem for CSS, it follows that CSS is not Turing complete.

(Other people have mentioned IE 6, which allows for embedding arbitrary JavaScript expressions in CSS; that will obviously add Turing completeness. But that feature is non-standard, and nobody in their right mind uses it anyway.)

Daniel Wagner brought up a point that I missed in the original answer. He notes that while I've covered animations, other parts of the style engine such as selector matching or layout can lead to Turing completeness as well. While it's difficult to make a formal argument about these, I'll try to outline why Turing completeness is still unlikely to happen.

First: Turing complete languages have some way of feeding data back into itself, whether it be through recursion or looping. But the design of the CSS language is hostile to this feedback:

  • @media queries can only check properties of the browser itself, such as viewport size or pixel resolution. These properties can change via user interaction or JavaScript code (e.g. resizing the browser window), but not through CSS alone.

  • ::before and ::after pseudo-elements are not considered part of the DOM, and cannot be matched in any other way.

  • Selector combinators can only inspect elements above and before the current element, so they cannot be used to create dependency cycles.

  • It's possible to shift an element away when you hover over it, but the position only updates when you move the mouse.

That should be enough to convince you that selector matching, on its own, cannot be Turing complete. But what about layout?

The modern CSS layout algorithm is very complex, with features such as Flexbox and Grid muddying the waters. But even if it were possible to trigger an infinite loop with layout, it would be hard to leverage this to perform useful computation. That's because CSS selectors inspect only the internal structure of the DOM, not how these elements are laid out on the screen. So any Turing completeness proof using the layout system must depend on layout alone.

Finally – and this is perhaps the most important reason – browser vendors have an interest in keeping CSS not Turing complete. By restricting the language, vendors allow for clever optimizations that make the web faster for everyone. Moreover, Google dedicates a whole server farm to searching for bugs in Chrome. If there were a way to write an infinite loop using CSS, then they probably would have found it already

How do I escape double quotes in attributes in an XML String in T-SQL?

Cannot comment anymore but voted it up and wanted to let folks know that &quot; works very well for the xml config files when forming regex expressions for RegexTransformer in Solr like so: regex=".*img src=&quot;(.*)&quot;.*" using the escaped version instead of double-quotes.

Setting HTTP headers

If you don't want to override your router (if you don't have your app configured in a way that supports this, or want to configure CORS on a route by route basis), add an OPTIONS handler to handle the pre flight request.

Ie, with Gorilla Mux your routes would look like:

accounts := router.Path("/accounts").Subrouter()
accounts.Methods("POST").Handler(AccountsCreate)
accounts.Methods("OPTIONS").Handler(AccountsCreatePreFlight)

Note above that in addition to our POST handler, we're defining a specific OPTIONS method handler.

And then to actual handle the OPTIONS preflight method, you could define AccountsCreatePreFlight like so:

// Check the origin is valid.
origin := r.Header.Get("Origin")
validOrigin, err := validateOrigin(origin)
if err != nil {
    return err
}

// If it is, allow CORS.
if validOrigin {
    w.Header().Set("Access-Control-Allow-Origin", origin)
    w.Header().Set("Access-Control-Allow-Methods", "POST")
    w.Header().Set("Access-Control-Allow-Headers",
        "Accept, Content-Type, Content-Length, Accept-Encoding, X-CSRF-Token, Authorization")
}

What really made this all click for me (in addition to actually understanding how CORS works) is that the HTTP Method of a preflight request is different from the HTTP Method of the actual request. To initiate CORS, the browser sends a preflight request with HTTP Method OPTIONS, which you have to handle explicitly in your router, and then, if it receives the appropriate response "Access-Control-Allow-Origin": origin (or "*" for all) from your application, it initiates the actual request.

I also believe that you can only do "*" for standard types of requests (ie: GET), but for others you'll have to explicitly set the origin like I do above.

Null pointer Exception on .setOnClickListener

Try giving your Button in your main.xml a more descriptive name such as:

<Button
                android:id="@+id/buttonXYZ"

(use lowercase in your xml files, at least, the first letter)

And then in your MainActivity class, declare it as:

Button buttonXYZ;

In your onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) method, define it as:

buttonXYZ = (Button) findViewById(R.id.buttonXYZ);

Also, move the Buttons/TextViews outside and place them before the .setOnClickListener - it makes the code cleaner.

Username = (EditText)findViewById(R.id.Username);
CompanyID = (EditText)findViewById(R.id.CompanyID);

error: function returns address of local variable

a is an array local to the function.Once the function returns it does not exist anymore and hence you should not return the address of a local variable.
In other words the lifetime of a is within the scope({,}) of the function and if you return a pointer to it what you have is a pointer pointing to some memory which is not valid. Such variables are also called automatic variabels because their lifetime is automatically managed you do not need to manage it explicitly.

Since you need to extend the variable to persist beyond the scope of the function you You need to allocate a array on heap and return a pointer to it.

char *a = malloc(1000);

This way the array a resides in memory untill you call a free() on the same address.
Do not forget to do so or you end up with a memory leak.

Passing multiple parameters with $.ajax url

why not just pass an data an object with your key/value pairs then you don't have to worry about encoding

$.ajax({

       timestamp: timestamp,
       uid: id,
       uname: name
    },
    async: true,
    cache: false,
    success: function(data) {

    };
}?);?

Difference between Node object and Element object?

Element inherits from Node, in the same way that Dog inherits from Animal.

An Element object "is-a" Node object, in the same way that a Dog object "is-a" Animal object.

Node is for implementing a tree structure, so its methods are for firstChild, lastChild, childNodes, etc. It is more of a class for a generic tree structure.

And then, some Node objects are also Element objects. Element inherits from Node. Element objects actually represents the objects as specified in the HTML file by the tags such as <div id="content"></div>. The Element class define properties and methods such as attributes, id, innerHTML, clientWidth, blur(), and focus().

Some Node objects are text nodes and they are not Element objects. Each Node object has a nodeType property that indicates what type of node it is, for HTML documents:

1: Element node
3: Text node
8: Comment node
9: the top level node, which is document

We can see some examples in the console:

> document instanceof Node
  true

> document instanceof Element
  false

> document.firstChild
  <html>...</html>

> document.firstChild instanceof Node
  true

> document.firstChild instanceof Element
  true

> document.firstChild.firstChild.nextElementSibling
  <body>...</body>

> document.firstChild.firstChild.nextElementSibling === document.body
  true

> document.firstChild.firstChild.nextSibling
  #text

> document.firstChild.firstChild.nextSibling instanceof Node
  true

> document.firstChild.firstChild.nextSibling instanceof Element
  false

> Element.prototype.__proto__ === Node.prototype
  true

The last line above shows that Element inherits from Node. (that line won't work in IE due to __proto__. Will need to use Chrome, Firefox, or Safari).

By the way, the document object is the top of the node tree, and document is a Document object, and Document inherits from Node as well:

> Document.prototype.__proto__ === Node.prototype
  true

Here are some docs for the Node and Element classes:

What are the differences between a pointer variable and a reference variable in C++?

There is a very important non-technical difference between pointers and references: An argument passed to a function by pointer is much more visible than an argument passed to a function by non-const reference. For example:

void fn1(std::string s);
void fn2(const std::string& s);
void fn3(std::string& s);
void fn4(std::string* s);

void bar() {
    std::string x;
    fn1(x);  // Cannot modify x
    fn2(x);  // Cannot modify x (without const_cast)
    fn3(x);  // CAN modify x!
    fn4(&x); // Can modify x (but is obvious about it)
}

Back in C, a call that looks like fn(x) can only be passed by value, so it definitely cannot modify x; to modify an argument you would need to pass a pointer fn(&x). So if an argument wasn't preceded by an & you knew it would not be modified. (The converse, & means modified, was not true because you would sometimes have to pass large read-only structures by const pointer.)

Some argue that this is such a useful feature when reading code, that pointer parameters should always be used for modifiable parameters rather than non-const references, even if the function never expects a nullptr. That is, those people argue that function signatures like fn3() above should not be allowed. Google's C++ style guidelines are an example of this.

Should I use Java's String.format() if performance is important?

The answer to this depends very much on how your specific Java compiler optimizes the bytecode it generates. Strings are immutable and, theoretically, each "+" operation can create a new one. But, your compiler almost certainly optimizes away interim steps in building long strings. It's entirely possible that both lines of code above generate the exact same bytecode.

The only real way to know is to test the code iteratively in your current environment. Write a QD app that concatenates strings both ways iteratively and see how they time out against each other.

How can I make an image transparent on Android?

Use:

ImageView image = (ImageView) findViewById(R.id.image);
image.setAlpha(150); // Value: [0-255]. Where 0 is fully transparent
                     // and 255 is fully opaque. Set the value according
                     // to your choice, and you can also use seekbar to
                     // maintain the transparency.

Create a dictionary with list comprehension

Try this,

def get_dic_from_two_lists(keys, values):
    return { keys[i] : values[i] for i in range(len(keys)) }

Assume we have two lists country and capital

country = ['India', 'Pakistan', 'China']
capital = ['New Delhi', 'Islamabad', 'Beijing']

Then create dictionary from the two lists:

print get_dic_from_two_lists(country, capital)

The output is like this,

{'Pakistan': 'Islamabad', 'China': 'Beijing', 'India': 'New Delhi'}

              IntPtr.Zero, Int32Rect.Empty,
              System.Windows.Media.Imaging.BitmapSizeOptions.FromEmptyOptions());
       }
       finally
       {
           DeleteObject(ip);
       }

       return bs;
   }

It gets System.Drawing.Bitmap (from WindowsBased) and converts it into BitmapSource, which can be actually used as image source for your Image control in WPF.

Can we set a Git default to fetch all tags during a remote pull?

You should be able to accomplish this by adding a refspec for tags to your local config. Concretely:

[remote "upstream"]
    url = <redacted>
    fetch = +refs/heads/*:refs/remotes/upstream/*
    fetch = +refs/tags/*:refs/tags/*

Javascript array sort and unique

This is actually very simple. It is much easier to find unique values, if the values are sorted first:

function sort_unique(arr) {
  if (arr.length === 0) return arr;
  arr = arr.sort(function (a, b) { return a*1 - b*1; });
  var ret = [arr[0]];
  for (var i = 1; i < arr.length; i++) { //Start loop at 1: arr[0] can never be a duplicate
    if (arr[i-1] !== arr[i]) {
      ret.push(arr[i]);
    }
  }
  return ret;
}
console.log(sort_unique(['237','124','255','124','366','255']));
//["124", "237", "255", "366"]

What is setup.py?

setup.py is a Python file like any other. It can take any name, except by convention it is named setup.py so that there is not a different procedure with each script.

Most frequently setup.py is used to install a Python module but server other purposes:

Modules:

Perhaps this is most famous usage of setup.py is in modules. Although they can be installed using pip, old Python versions did not include pip by default and they needed to be installed separately.

If you wanted to install a module but did not want to install pip, just about the only alternative was to install the module from setup.py file. This could be achieved via python setup.py install. This would install the Python module to the root dictionary (without pip, easy_install ect).

This method is often used when pip will fail. For example if the correct Python version of the desired package is not available via pipperhaps because it is no longer maintained, , downloading the source and running python setup.py install would perform the same thing, except in the case of compiled binaries are required, (but will disregard the Python version -unless an error is returned).

Another use of setup.py is to install a package from source. If a module is still under development the wheel files will not be available and the only way to install is to install from the source directly.

Building Python extensions:

When a module has been built it can be converted into module ready for distribution using a distutils setup script. Once built these can be installed using the command above.

A setup script is easy to build and once the file has been properly configured and can be compiled by running python setup.py build (see link for all commands).

Once again it is named setup.py for ease of use and by convention, but can take any name.

Cython:

Another famous use of setup.py files include compiled extensions. These require a setup script with user defined values. They allow fast (but once compiled are platform dependant) execution. Here is a simple example from the documentation:

from distutils.core import setup
from Cython.Build import cythonize

setup(
    name = 'Hello world app',
    ext_modules = cythonize("hello.pyx"),
)

This can be compiled via python setup.py build

Cx_Freeze:

Another module requiring a setup script is cx_Freeze. This converts Python script to executables. This allows many commands such as descriptions, names, icons, packages to include, exclude ect and once run will produce a distributable application. An example from the documentation:

import sys
from cx_Freeze import setup, Executable
build_exe_options = {"packages": ["os"], "excludes": ["tkinter"]}

base = None
if sys.platform == "win32":
    base = "Win32GUI"

setup(  name = "guifoo",
        version = "0.1",
        description = "My GUI application!",
        options = {"build_exe": build_exe_options},
        executables = [Executable("guifoo.py", base=base)])

This can be compiled via python setup.py build.

So what is a setup.py file?

Quite simply it is a script that builds or configures something in the Python environment.

A package when distributed should contain only one setup script but it is not uncommon to combine several together into a single setup script. Notice this often involves distutils but not always (as I showed in my last example). The thing to remember it just configures Python package/script in some way.

It takes the name so the same command can always be used when building or installing.

HTTP Error 403.14 - Forbidden The Web server is configured to not list the contents

Just in case if anyone reached here looking for solution, here is how i resolved it. By mistake I deleted all files from my server ( bin directory ) but when i recopied all files i missed App_global.asax.dll and App_global.asax.compiled files. Because these files were missing IIS was giving me this error

403 - Forbidden: Access is denied.

As soon as i added these files, it started working perfectly fine.

Utility of HTTP header "Content-Type: application/force-download" for mobile?

Content-Type: application/force-download means "I, the web server, am going to lie to you (the browser) about what this file is so that you will not treat it as a PDF/Word Document/MP3/whatever and prompt the user to save the mysterious file to disk instead". It is a dirty hack that breaks horribly when the client doesn't do "save to disk".

Use the correct mime type for whatever media you are using (e.g. audio/mpeg for mp3).

Use the Content-Disposition: attachment; etc etc header if you want to encourage the client to download it instead of following the default behaviour.

Abstract class in Java

Solution - base class (abstract)

public abstract class Place {

PowerShell array initialization

Here's another idea. You have to remember, that it's .NET underneath:

$arr = [System.Array]::CreateInstance([System.Object], 5)
$arr.GetType()
$arr.Length

$arr = [Object[]]::new(5)
$arr.GetType()
$arr.Length

Result:

IsPublic IsSerial Name                                     BaseType

5
True     True     Object[]                                 System.Array

Using new() has one distinct advantage: when you're programming in ISE and want to create an object, ISE will give you hint with all paramer combinations and their types. You don't have that with New-Object, where you have to remember the types and order of arguments.

pass post data with window.location.href

As it was said in other answers there is no way to make a POST request using window.location.href, to do it you can create a form and submit it immediately.

You can use this function:

function postForm(path, params, method) {
    method = method || 'post';

    var form = document.createElement('form');
    form.setAttribute('method', method);
    form.setAttribute('action', path);

    for (var key in params) {
        if (params.hasOwnProperty(key)) {
            var hiddenField = document.createElement('input');
            hiddenField.setAttribute('type', 'hidden');
            hiddenField.setAttribute('name', key);
            hiddenField.setAttribute('value', params[key]);

            form.appendChild(hiddenField);
        }
    }

    document.body.appendChild(form);
    form.submit();
}

postForm('mysite.com/form', {arg1: 'value1', arg2: 'value2'});

JQuery DatePicker ReadOnly

My final solution:

When my app loads I initialize the datepicker as such:

$('.selector').datepicker({ dateFormat: "mm/dd/yy" });

I then have a global toggle button that enables/disables the datepicker. To disable I do the following:

$('.selector').datepicker("option", "minDate", -1);
$('.selector').datepicker("option", "maxDate", -2);

To enable I do the following:

$('.selector').datepicker("option", "minDate", null);
$('.selector').datepicker("option", "maxDate", null);

Thanks everyone!

Maven is not working in Java 8 when Javadoc tags are incomplete

I'm a bit late to the party, but I was forced to search for workaround too, ended up here, and then found it.

Here's what works for me:-

export JAVA_TOOL_OPTIONS=-DadditionalJOption=-Xdoclint:none

And then start your Maven build, any Linux distribution build etc. Nice thing about it that it doesn't require Maven config files modification - I couldn't do that as my objective was to rebuild a bunch of Centos rpm packages, so had to go really deep.

Export HTML page to PDF on user click using JavaScript

This is because you define your "doc" variable outside of your click event. The first time you click the button the doc variable contains a new jsPDF object. But when you click for a second time, this variable can't be used in the same way anymore. As it is already defined and used the previous time.

change it to:

$(function () {

    var specialElementHandlers = {
        '#editor': function (element,renderer) {
            return true;
        }
    };
 $('#cmd').click(function () {
        var doc = new jsPDF();
        doc.fromHTML(
            $('#target').html(), 15, 15,
            { 'width': 170, 'elementHandlers': specialElementHandlers },
            function(){ doc.save('sample-file.pdf'); }
        );

    });
});

and it will work.

Run Command Prompt Commands

This may be a bit of a read so im sorry in advance. And this is my tried and tested way of doing this, there may be a simpler way but this is from me throwing code at a wall and seeing what stuck

If it can be done with a batch file then the maybe over complicated work around is have c# write a .bat file and run it. If you want user input you could place the input into a variable and have c# write it into the file. it will take trial and error with this way because its like controlling a puppet with another puppet.

here is an example, In this case the function is for a push button in windows forum app that clears the print queue.

using System.IO;
using System;

   public static void ClearPrintQueue()
    {

        //this is the path the document or in our case batch file will be placed
        string docPath =
         Environment.GetFolderPath(Environment.SpecialFolder.MyDocuments);
        //this is the path process.start usues
        string path1 = docPath + "\\Test.bat";

        // these are the batch commands
        // remember its "", the comma separates the lines
        string[] lines =
        {
            "@echo off",
            "net stop spooler",
            "del %systemroot%\\System32\\spool\\Printers\\* /Q",
            "net start spooler",
            //this deletes the file
            "del \"%~f0\"" //do not put a comma on the last line
        };

        //this writes the string to the file
        using (StreamWriter outputFile = new StreamWriter(Path.Combine(docPath, "test.bat")))
        {
            //This writes the file line by line
            foreach (string line in lines)
                outputFile.WriteLine(line);
        }
        System.Diagnostics.Process.Start(path1);

    }

IF you want user input then you could try something like this.

This is for setting the computer IP as static but asking the user what the IP, gateway, and dns server is.

you will need this for it to work

public static void SetIPStatic()
    {
//These open pop up boxes which ask for user input
        string STATIC = Microsoft.VisualBasic.Interaction.InputBox("Whats the static IP?", "", "", 100, 100);
        string SUBNET = Microsoft.VisualBasic.Interaction.InputBox("Whats the Subnet?(Press enter for default)", "255.255.255.0", "", 100, 100);
        string DEFAULTGATEWAY = Microsoft.VisualBasic.Interaction.InputBox("Whats the Default gateway?", "", "", 100, 100);
        string DNS = Microsoft.VisualBasic.Interaction.InputBox("Whats the DNS server IP?(Input required, 8.8.4.4 has already been set as secondary)", "", "", 100, 100);

        //this is the path the document or in our case batch file will be placed
        string docPath =
         Environment.GetFolderPath(Environment.SpecialFolder.MyDocuments);
        //this is the path process.start usues
        string path1 = docPath + "\\Test.bat";

        // these are the batch commands
        // remember its "", the comma separates the lines
        string[] lines =
        {
            "SETLOCAL EnableDelayedExpansion",
            "SET adapterName=",
            "FOR /F \"tokens=* delims=:\" %%a IN ('IPCONFIG ^| FIND /I \"ETHERNET ADAPTER\"') DO (",
            "SET adapterName=%%a",
            "REM Removes \"Ethernet adapter\" from the front of the adapter name",
            "SET adapterName=!adapterName:~17!",
            "REM Removes the colon from the end of the adapter name",
            "SET adapterName=!adapterName:~0,-1!",
//the variables that were set before are used here
            "netsh interface ipv4 set address name=\"!adapterName!\" static " + STATIC + " " + STATIC + " " + DEFAULTGATEWAY,
            "netsh interface ipv4 set dns name=\"!adapterName!\" static " + DNS + " primary",
            "netsh interface ipv4 add dns name=\"!adapterName!\" 8.8.4.4 index=2",
            ")",
            "ipconfig /flushdns",
            "ipconfig /registerdns",
            ":EOF",
            "DEL \"%~f0\"",
            ""
        };

        //this writes the string to the file
        using (StreamWriter outputFile = new StreamWriter(Path.Combine(docPath, "test.bat")))
        {
            //This writes the file line by line
            foreach (string line in lines)
                outputFile.WriteLine(line);
        }
        System.Diagnostics.Process.Start(path1);

    }

Like I said. It may be a little overcomplicated but it never fails unless I write the batch commands wrong.

Swift days between two NSDates

This returns an absolute difference in days between some Date and today:

extension Date {
  func daysFromToday() -> Int {
    return abs(Calendar.current.dateComponents([.day], from: self, to: Date()).day!)
  }
}

and then use it:

if someDate.daysFromToday() >= 7 {
  // at least a week from today
}

Map implementation with duplicate keys

 1, Map<String, List<String>> map = new HashMap<>();

this verbose solution has multiple drawbacks and is prone to errors. It implies that we need to instantiate a Collection for every value, check for its presence before adding or removing a value, delete it manually when no values are left, etcetera.

How to play CSS3 transitions in a loop?

CSS transitions only animate from one set of styles to another; what you're looking for is CSS animations.

You need to define the animation keyframes and apply it to the element:

@keyframes changewidth {
  from {
    width: 100px;
  }

  to {
    width: 300px;
  }
}

div {
  animation-duration: 0.1s;
  animation-name: changewidth;
  animation-iteration-count: infinite;
  animation-direction: alternate;
}

Check out the link above to figure out how to customize it to your liking, and you'll have to add browser prefixes.

UIButton Image + Text IOS

I encountered the same problem, and I fix it by creating a new subclass of UIButton and overriding the layoutSubviews: method as below :

-(void)layoutSubviews {
    [super layoutSubviews];

    // Center image
    CGPoint center = self.imageView.center;
    center.x = self.frame.size.width/2;
    center.y = self.imageView.frame.size.height/2;
    self.imageView.center = center;

    //Center text
    CGRect newFrame = [self titleLabel].frame;
    newFrame.origin.x = 0;
    newFrame.origin.y = self.imageView.frame.size.height + 5;
    newFrame.size.width = self.frame.size.width;

    self.titleLabel.frame = newFrame;
    self.titleLabel.textAlignment = UITextAlignmentCenter;

}

I think that the Angel García Olloqui's answer is another good solution, if you place all of them manually with interface builder but I'll keep my solution since I don't have to modify the content insets for each of my button.

The server is not responding (or the local MySQL server's socket is not correctly configured) in wamp server

If you use MAMP, make sure it's started. :)

I just ran into this problem, and after starting MAMP the error went away. Not my finest moment.

How to un-commit last un-pushed git commit without losing the changes

With me mostly it happens when I push changes to the wrong branch and realize later. And following works in most of the time.

git revert commit-hash
git push

git checkout my-other-branch
git revert revert-commit-hash
git push
  1. revert the commit
  2. (create and) checkout other branch
  3. revert the revert

How to dynamically create CSS class in JavaScript and apply?

For the benefit of searchers; if you are using jQuery, you can do the following:

var currentOverride = $('#customoverridestyles');

if (currentOverride) {
 currentOverride.remove();
}

$('body').append("<style id=\"customoverridestyles\">body{background-color:pink;}</style>");

Obviously you can change the inner css to whatever you want.

Appreciate some people prefer pure JavaScript, but it works and has been pretty robust for writing/overwriting styles dynamically.

What's the difference between process.cwd() vs __dirname?

process.cwd() returns the current working directory,

i.e. the directory from which you invoked the node command.

__dirname returns the directory name of the directory containing the JavaScript source code file

Upgrade to python 3.8 using conda

You can update your python version to 3.8 in conda using the command

conda install -c anaconda python=3.8

as per https://anaconda.org/anaconda/python. Though not all packages support 3.8 yet, running

conda update --all

may resolve some dependency failures. You can also create a new environment called py38 using this command

conda create -n py38 python=3.8

Edit - note that the conda install option will potentially take a while to solve the environment, and if you try to abort this midway through you will lose your Python installation (usually this means it will resort to non-conda pre-installed system Python installation).

What does the clearfix class do in css?

When an element, such as a div is floated, its parent container no longer considers its height, i.e.

<div id="main">
  <div id="child" style="float:left;height:40px;"> Hi</div>
</div>

The parent container will not be be 40 pixels tall by default. This causes a lot of weird little quirks if you're using these containers to structure layout.

So the clearfix class that various frameworks use fixes this problem by making the parent container "acknowledge" the contained elements.

Day to day, I normally just use frameworks such as 960gs, Twitter Bootstrap for laying out and not bothering with the exact mechanics.

How to export collection to CSV in MongoDB?

For all those who are stuck with an error.

Let me give you guys a solution with a brief explanation of the same:-

command to connect:-

mongoexport --host your_host --port your_port -u your_username -p your_password --db your_db --collection your_collection --type=csv --out file_name.csv --fields all_the_fields --authenticationDatabase admin

--host --> host of Mongo server

--port --> port of Mongo server

-u --> username

-p --> password

--db --> db from which you want to export

--collection --> collection you want to export

--type --> type of export in my case CSV

--out --> file name where you want to export

--fields --> all the fields you want to export (don't give spaces in between two field name in between commas in case of CSV)

--authenticationDatabase --> database where all your user information is stored

How to show all rows by default in JQuery DataTable

Use:

$('#example').dataTable({
    aLengthMenu: [
        [25, 50, 100, 200, -1],
        [25, 50, 100, 200, "All"]
    ],
    iDisplayLength: -1
});

Or if using 1.10+

$('#example').dataTable({
    paging: false
});

The option you should use is iDisplayLength:

$('#adminProducts').dataTable({
  'iDisplayLength': 100
});

$('#table').DataTable({
   "lengthMenu": [ [5, 10, 25, 50, -1], [5, 10, 25, 50, "All"] ]
});

It will Load by default all entries.

$('#example').dataTable({
    aLengthMenu: [
        [25, 50, 100, 200, -1],
        [25, 50, 100, 200, "All"]
    ],
    iDisplayLength: -1
});

Or if using 1.10+

$('#example').dataTable({
    paging: false
});

If you want to load by default 25 not all do this.

$('#example').dataTable({
    aLengthMenu: [
        [25, 50, 100, 200, -1],
        [25, 50, 100, 200, "All"]
    ],
});

Open Source Alternatives to Reflector?

These wont give you C# though.

Run parallel multiple commands at once in the same terminal

I am suggesting a much simpler utility I just wrote. It's currently called par, but will be renamed soon to either parl or pll, haven't decided yet.

https://github.com/k-bx/par

API is as simple as:

par "script1.sh" "script2.sh" "script3.sh"

Prefixing commands can be done via:

par "PARPREFIX=[script1] script1.sh" "script2.sh" "script3.sh"

Seedable JavaScript random number generator

If you want to be able to specify the seed, you just need to replace the calls to getSeconds() and getMinutes(). You could pass in an int and use half of it mod 60 for the seconds value and the other half modulo 60 to give you the other part.

That being said, this method looks like garbage. Doing proper random number generation is very hard. The obvious problem with this is that the random number seed is based on seconds and minutes. To guess the seed and recreate your stream of random numbers only requires trying 3600 different second and minute combinations. It also means that there are only 3600 different possible seeds. This is correctable, but I'd be suspicious of this RNG from the start.

If you want to use a better RNG, try the Mersenne Twister. It is a well tested and fairly robust RNG with a huge orbit and excellent performance.

EDIT: I really should be correct and refer to this as a Pseudo Random Number Generator or PRNG.

Disable XML validation in Eclipse

In JBoss Developer 4.0 and above (Eclipse-based), this is a tad easier. Just right-click on your file or folder that contains xml-based files, choose "Exclude Validation", then click "Yes" to confirm. Then right-click the same files/folder again and click on "Validate", which will remove the errors with a confirmation.

JSONDecodeError: Expecting value: line 1 column 1 (char 0)

To summarize the conversation in the comments:

  • There is no need to use simplejson library, the same library is included with Python as the json module.

  • There is no need to decode a response from UTF8 to unicode, the simplejson / json .loads() method can handle UTF8 encoded data natively.

  • pycurl has a very archaic API. Unless you have a specific requirement for using it, there are better choices.

requests offers the most friendly API, including JSON support. If you can, replace your call with:

import requests

return requests.get(url).json()

Return different type of data from a method in java?

This can be one of the solution. But your present solution is good enough. You can also add new variables and still keep it clean, which cannot be done with present code.

private static final int INDEX_OF_INT_PARAM = 1;

public static Object[] myMethod() {

    values[INDEX_OF_INT_PARAM] = 12;
    return values;

How to set a string's color

Google aparently has a library for this sort of thing: http://code.google.com/p/jlibs/wiki/AnsiColoring

Adding rows dynamically with jQuery

As an addition to answers above: you probably might need to change ids in names/ids of input elements (pls note, you should not have digits in fields name):

<input name="someStuff.entry[2].fieldOne" id="someStuff_fdf_fieldOne_2" ..>

I have done this having some global variable by default set to 0:

var globalNewIndex = 0;

and in the add function after you've cloned and resetted the values in the new row:

                var newIndex = globalNewIndex+1;
                var changeIds = function(i, val) {
                    return val.replace(globalNewIndex,newIndex);
                }
                $('#mytable tbody>tr:last input').attr('name', changeIds ).attr('id', changeIds );
                globalNewIndex++;

how to fire event on file select

Use the change event on the file input.

$("#file").change(function(){
         //submit the form here
 });

Differences between contentType and dataType in jQuery ajax function

From the documentation:

contentType (default: 'application/x-www-form-urlencoded; charset=UTF-8')

Type: String

When sending data to the server, use this content type. Default is "application/x-www-form-urlencoded; charset=UTF-8", which is fine for most cases. If you explicitly pass in a content-type to $.ajax(), then it'll always be sent to the server (even if no data is sent). If no charset is specified, data will be transmitted to the server using the server's default charset; you must decode this appropriately on the server side.

and:

dataType (default: Intelligent Guess (xml, json, script, or html))

Type: String

The type of data that you're expecting back from the server. If none is specified, jQuery will try to infer it based on the MIME type of the response (an XML MIME type will yield XML, in 1.4 JSON will yield a JavaScript object, in 1.4 script will execute the script, and anything else will be returned as a string).

They're essentially the opposite of what you thought they were.

What is your favorite C programming trick?

Two good source books for this sort of stuff are The Practice of Programming and Writing Solid Code. One of them (I don't remember which) says: Prefer enum to #define where you can, because enum gets checked by the compiler.

Convert string to Color in C#

The simplest way:

string input = null;
Color color = Color.White;

TextBoxText_Changed(object sender, EventsArgs e)

   input = TextBox.Text;
}

Button_Click(object sender, EventsArgs e)
{
   color = Color.FromName(input)
}

Is it possible to disable floating headers in UITableView with UITableViewStylePlain?

You should be able to fake this by using a custom cell to do your header rows. These will then scroll like any other cell in the table view.

You just need to add some logic in your cellForRowAtIndexPath to return the right cell type when it is a header row.

You'll probably have to manage your sections yourself though, i.e. have everything in one section and fake the headers. (You could also try returning a hidden view for the header view, but I don't know if that will work)

Rename multiple files by replacing a particular pattern in the filenames using a shell script

Can't comment on Susam Pal's answer but if you're dealing with spaces, I'd surround with quotes:

for f in *.jpg; do mv "$f" "`echo $f | sed s/\ /\-/g`"; done;

MySQL integer field is returned as string in PHP

If prepared statements are used, the type will be int where appropriate. This code returns an array of rows, where each row is an associative array. Like if fetch_assoc() was called for all rows, but with preserved type info.

function dbQuery($sql) {
    global $mysqli;

    $stmt = $mysqli->prepare($sql);
    $stmt->execute();
    $stmt->store_result();

    $meta = $stmt->result_metadata();
    $params = array();
    $row = array();

    while ($field = $meta->fetch_field()) {
      $params[] = &$row[$field->name];
    }

    call_user_func_array(array($stmt, 'bind_result'), $params);

    while ($stmt->fetch()) {
      $tmp = array();
      foreach ($row as $key => $val) {
        $tmp[$key] = $val;
      }
      $ret[] = $tmp;
    }

    $meta->free();
    $stmt->close();

    return $ret;
}

C# binary literals

You can always create quasi-literals, constants which contain the value you are after:

const int b001 = 1;
const int b010 = 2;
const int b011 = 3;
// etc ...
Debug.Assert((b001 | b010) == b011);

If you use them often then you can wrap them in a static class for re-use.

However, slightliy off-topic, if you have any semantics associated with the bits (known at compile time) I would suggest using an Enum instead:

enum Flags
{
    First = 0,
    Second = 1,
    Third = 2,
    SecondAndThird = 3
}
// later ...
Debug.Assert((Flags.Second | Flags.Third) == Flags.SecondAndThird);

SQL alias for SELECT statement

You could store this into a temporary table.

So instead of doing the CTE/sub query you would use a temp table.

Good article on these here http://codingsight.com/introduction-to-temporary-tables-in-sql-server/

How to strip all non-alphabetic characters from string in SQL Server?

--First create one function

Function ereg_replace() is deprecated - How to clear this bug?

Switch to preg_replaceDocs and update the expression to use preg syntax (PCRE) instead of ereg syntax (POSIX) where there are differencesDocs (just as it says to do in the manual for ereg_replaceDocs).

How can I make a div not larger than its contents?

I have solved a similar problem (where I didn't want to use display: inline-block because the item was centered) by adding a span tag inside the div tag, and moving the CSS formatting from the outer div tag to the new inner span tag. Just throwing this out there as another alternative idea if display: inline block isn't a suitable answer for you.

Catch browser's "zoom" event in JavaScript

This works for me:

        var deviceXDPI = screen.deviceXDPI;
        setInterval(function(){
            if(screen.deviceXDPI != deviceXDPI){
                deviceXDPI = screen.deviceXDPI;
                ... there was a resize ...
            }
        }, 500);

It's only needed on IE8. All the other browsers naturally generate a resize event.

What's the difference between getRequestURI and getPathInfo methods in HttpServletRequest?

Consider the following servlet conf:

   <servlet>
        <servlet-name>NewServlet</servlet-name>
        <servlet-class>NewServlet</servlet-class>
    </servlet>
    <servlet-mapping>
        <servlet-name>NewServlet</servlet-name>
        <url-pattern>/NewServlet/*</url-pattern>
    </servlet-mapping>

Now, when I hit the URL http://localhost:8084/JSPTemp1/NewServlet/jhi, it will invoke NewServlet as it is mapped with the pattern described above.

Here:

getRequestURI() =  /JSPTemp1/NewServlet/jhi
getPathInfo() = /jhi

We have those ones:

  • getPathInfo()

    returns
    a String, decoded by the web container, specifying extra path information that comes after the servlet path but before the query string in the request URL; or null if the URL does not have any extra path information

  • getRequestURI()

    returns
    a String containing the part of the URL from the protocol name up to the query string

How to put an image next to each other

Change div to span. And space the icons using &nbsp; HTML

 <div class="nav3" style="height:705px;">
 <span class="icons"><a href="http://www.facebook.com/"><img src="images/facebook.png"></a>
 </span>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
 <span class="icons"><a href="https://twitter.com"><img src="images/twitter.png"></a>
 </span>
 </div>

CSS

.nav3 {
background-color: #E9E8C7;
height: auto;
width: 150px;
float: left;
padding-left: 20px;
font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
font-size: 12px;
color: #333333;
padding-top: 20px;
padding-right: 20px;
}

.icons{
display:inline-block;
width: 64px;
height: 64px;
}

 a.icons:hover {
 background: #C93;
 }

span does not break line, div does.

Selenium Error - The HTTP request to the remote WebDriver timed out after 60 seconds

I had the same exception when trying to run a headless ChromeDriver with a scheduled task on a windows server (unattended). What solved it for me is to run the task as the user "Administrators" (notice the S at the end). What I also did (I don't know if its relevant) is selected the "Any Connection" from the task "Conditions" tab.

Nginx -- static file serving confusion with root & alias

In other words on keeping this brief: in case of root, location argument specified is part of filesystem's path and URI . On the other hand — for alias directive argument of location statement is part of URI only

So, alias is a different name that maps certain URI to certain path in the filesystem, whereas root appends location argument to the root path given as argument to root directive.

base64 encoded images in email signatures

Important

My answer below shows how to embed images using data URIs. This is useful for the web, but will not work reliably for most email clients. For email purposes be sure to read Shadow2531's answer.

Base-64 data is legal in an img tag and I believe your question is how to properly insert such an image tag.

You can use an online tool or a few lines of code to generate the base 64 string.

The syntax to source the image from inline data is:

<img src="data:image/png;base64,iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAAAUA
AAAFCAYAAACNbyblAAAAHElEQVQI12P4//8/w38GIAXDIBKE0DHxgljNBAAO

DROP IF EXISTS VS DROP?

You forgot the table in your syntax:

drop table [table_name]

which drops a table.

Using

drop table if exists [table_name]

checks if the table exists before dropping it.
If it exists, it gets dropped.
If not, no error will be thrown and no action be taken.

Are there any SHA-256 javascript implementations that are generally considered trustworthy?

For those interested, this is code for creating SHA-256 hash using sjcl:

import sjcl from 'sjcl'

const myString = 'Hello'
const myBitArray = sjcl.hash.sha256.hash(myString)
const myHash = sjcl.codec.hex.fromBits(myBitArray)

Safe navigation operator (?.) or (!.) and null property paths

A new library called ts-optchain provides this functionality, and unlike lodash' solution, it also keeps your types safe, here is a sample of how it is used (taken from the readme):

import { oc } from 'ts-optchain';

interface I {
  a?: string;
  b?: {
    d?: string;
  };
  c?: Array<{
    u?: {
      v?: number;
    };
  }>;
  e?: {
    f?: string;
    g?: () => string;
  };
}

const x: I = {
  a: 'hello',
  b: {
    d: 'world',
  },
  c: [{ u: { v: -100 } }, { u: { v: 200 } }, {}, { u: { v: -300 } }],
};

// Here are a few examples of deep object traversal using (a) optional chaining vs
// (b) logic expressions. Each of the following pairs are equivalent in
// result. Note how the benefits of optional chaining accrue with
// the depth and complexity of the traversal.

oc(x).a(); // 'hello'
x.a;

oc(x).b.d(); // 'world'
x.b && x.b.d;

oc(x).c[0].u.v(); // -100
x.c && x.c[0] && x.c[0].u && x.c[0].u.v;

oc(x).c[100].u.v(); // undefined
x.c && x.c[100] && x.c[100].u && x.c[100].u.v;

oc(x).c[100].u.v(1234); // 1234
(x.c && x.c[100] && x.c[100].u && x.c[100].u.v) || 1234;

oc(x).e.f(); // undefined
x.e && x.e.f;

oc(x).e.f('optional default value'); // 'optional default value'
(x.e && x.e.f) || 'optional default value';

// NOTE: working with function value types can be risky. Additional run-time
// checks to verify that object types are functions before invocation are advised!
oc(x).e.g(() => 'Yo Yo')(); // 'Yo Yo'
((x.e && x.e.g) || (() => 'Yo Yo'))();

How to get the caller class in Java

The error message the OP is encountering is just an Eclipse feature. If you are willing to tie your code to a specific maker (and even version) of the JVM, you can effectively use method sun.reflect.Reflection.getCallerClass(). You can then compile the code outside of Eclipse or configure it not to consider this diagnostic an error.

The worse Eclipse configuration is to disable all occurrences of the error by:

Project Properties / Java Compiler / Errors/Warnings / Enable project specific settings set to checked / Deprecated and restrited API / Forbidden reference (access rules) set to Warning or Ignore.

The better Eclipse configuration is to disable a specific occurrence of the error by:

Project Properties / Java Build Path / Libraries / JRE System Library expand / Access rules: select / Edit... / Add... / Resolution: set to Discouraged or Accessible / Rule Pattern set to sun/reflect/Reflection.

Change background image opacity

Nowadays, it is possible to do it simply with CSS property "background-blend-mode".

<div id="content">Only one div needed</div>

div#content {
    background-image: url(my_image.png);
    background-color: rgba(255,255,255,0.6);
    background-blend-mode: lighten;
    /* You may add things like width, height, background-size... */
}

It will blend the background-color (which is white, 0.6 opacity) into the background image. Learn more here (W3S).

OpenMP set_num_threads() is not working

Try setting your num_threads inside your omp parallel code, it worked for me. This will give output as 4

#pragma omp parallel
{
   omp_set_num_threads(4);
   int id = omp_get_num_threads();
   #pragma omp for
   for (i = 0:n){foo(A);}
}

printf("Number of threads: %d", id);

How to Calculate Execution Time of a Code Snippet in C++

In some programs I wrote I used RDTS for such purpose. RDTSC is not about time but about number of cycles from processor start. You have to calibrate it on your system to get a result in second, but it's really handy when you want to evaluate performance, it's even better to use number of cycles directly without trying to change them back to seconds.

(link above is to a french wikipedia page, but it has C++ code samples, english version is here)

What is the difference between require and require-dev sections in composer.json?

General rule is that you want packages from require-dev section only in development (dev) environments, for example local environment.

Packages in require-dev section are packages which help you debug app, run tests etc.

At staging and production environment you probably want only packages from require section.

But anyway you can run composer install --no-dev and composer update --no-dev on any environment, command will install only packages from required section not from require-dev, but probably you want to run this only at staging and production environments not on local.

Theoretically you can put all packages in require section and nothing will happened, but you don't want developing packages at production environment because of the following reasons :

  1. speed
  2. potential of expose some debuging info
  3. etc

Some good candidates for require-dev are :

"filp/whoops": "^2.0",
"fzaninotto/faker": "^1.4",
"mockery/mockery": "^1.0",
"nunomaduro/collision": "^2.0",
"phpunit/phpunit": "^7.0"

you can see what above packages are doing and you will see why you don't need them on production.

See more here : https://getcomposer.org/doc/04-schema.md

"No cached version... available for offline mode."

Had the same error after updating Android Studio today. For me, it wasn't a matter of proxy settings:

  1. Uncheck "Offline work" in Android Studio 0.6.0:

    File->Settings->Gradle->Global Gradle Settings

    or in OSX:

    Preferences->Gradle->Global Gradle Setting

    or in more recent versions:

    File->Settings->Build, Execution, Deployment->Build tools->Gradle

  2. Resync the project, for example by restarting the Android Studio

  3. Once synced, you can check the option again to work offline.

(Only tested in Gradle version 0.11... and Android Studio version 0.6.0 Preview)

EDIT : Added paths for different versions/platforms (as mentioned by John Ballinger and The_Martian). Not yet verified.

Callback functions in Java

When I need this kind of functionality in Java, I usually use the Observer pattern. It does imply an extra object, but I think it's a clean way to go, and is a widely understood pattern, which helps with code readability.

Embedding JavaScript engine into .NET

It's Possible now with ASP.Net MVC4 Razor View engine. the code will be this:

How do I encrypt and decrypt a string in python?

I had troubles compiling all the most commonly mentioned cryptography libraries on my Windows 7 system and for Python 3.5.

This is the solution that finally worked for me.

from cryptography.fernet import Fernet
key = Fernet.generate_key() #this is your "password"
cipher_suite = Fernet(key)
encoded_text = cipher_suite.encrypt(b"Hello stackoverflow!")
decoded_text = cipher_suite.decrypt(encoded_text)

How to obtain the location of cacerts of the default java installation?

In MacOS Mojave, the location is:

If using sdkman to manage java versions, the cacerts is in

~/.sdkman/candidates/java/current/jre/lib/security

Remarks:

  • The question specifies jQuery already. So, I'm keeping other alternatives out of this.
  • In older versions of jQuery (< 1.7), you may want to replace on with bind.

How to check variable type at runtime in Go language

The answer by @Darius is the most idiomatic (and probably more performant) method. One limitation is that the type you are checking has to be of type interface{}. If you use a concrete type it will fail.

An alternative way to determine the type of something at run-time, including concrete types, is to use the Go reflect package. Chaining TypeOf(x).Kind() together you can get a reflect.Kind value which is a uint type: http://golang.org/pkg/reflect/#Kind

You can then do checks for types outside of a switch block, like so:

import (
    "fmt"
    "reflect"
)

// ....

x := 42
y := float32(43.3)
z := "hello"

xt := reflect.TypeOf(x).Kind()
yt := reflect.TypeOf(y).Kind()
zt := reflect.TypeOf(z).Kind()

fmt.Printf("%T: %s\n", xt, xt)
fmt.Printf("%T: %s\n", yt, yt)
fmt.Printf("%T: %s\n", zt, zt)

if xt == reflect.Int {
    println(">> x is int")
}
if yt == reflect.Float32 {
    println(">> y is float32")
}
if zt == reflect.String {
    println(">> z is string")
}

Which prints outs:

reflect.Kind: int
reflect.Kind: float32
reflect.Kind: string
>> x is int
>> y is float32
>> z is string

Again, this is probably not the preferred way to do it, but it's good to know alternative options.

How do I pass parameters to a jar file at the time of execution?

To pass arguments to the jar:

java -jar myjar.jar one two

You can access them in the main() method of "Main-Class" (mentioned in the manifest.mf file of a JAR).

String one = args[0];
String two = args[1];

Scala Doubles, and Precision

You can do:Math.round(<double precision value> * 100.0) / 100.0 But Math.round is fastest but it breaks down badly in corner cases with either a very high number of decimal places (e.g. round(1000.0d, 17)) or large integer part (e.g. round(90080070060.1d, 9)).

Use Bigdecimal it is bit inefficient as it converts the values to string but more relieval: BigDecimal(<value>).setScale(<places>, RoundingMode.HALF_UP).doubleValue() use your preference of Rounding mode.

If you are curious and want to know more detail why this happens you can read this: enter image description here

Java ByteBuffer to String

Here is a simple function for converting a byte buffer to string:

public String byteBufferToString(ByteBuffer bufferData) {
    byte[] buffer = new byte[bufferData.readableByteCount()];
    // read bufferData and insert into buffer
    data.read(buffer);
    // CharsetUtil supports UTF_16, ASCII, and many more
    String text = new String(buffer, CharsetUtil.UTF_8);
    System.out.println("Text: "+text);
    return text;
}

How can I include a YAML file inside another?

With Symfony, its handling of yaml will indirectly allow you to nest yaml files. The trick is to make use of the parameters option. eg:

common.yml

parameters:
    yaml_to_repeat:
        option: "value"
        foo:
            - "bar"
            - "baz"

config.yml

imports:
    - { resource: common.yml }
whatever:
    thing: "%yaml_to_repeat%"
    other_thing: "%yaml_to_repeat%"

The result will be the same as:

whatever:
    thing:
        option: "value"
        foo:
            - "bar"
            - "baz"
    other_thing:
        option: "value"
        foo:
            - "bar"
            - "baz"

Prevent users from submitting a form by hitting Enter

Giving the form an action of 'javascript:void(0);' seems to do the trick

<form action="javascript:void(0);">
<input type="text" />
</form>
<script>
$(document).ready(function() {
    $(window).keydown(function(event){
        if(event.keyCode == 13) {
    alert('Hello');
        }
    });
});
</script>

How to list all files in a directory and its subdirectories in hadoop hdfs

don't use recursive approach (heap issues) :) use a queue

queue.add(param_dir)
while (queue is not empty){

  directory=  queue.pop
 - get items from current directory
 - if item is file add to a list (final list)
 - if item is directory => queue.push
}

that was easy, enjoy!

Fixing slow initial load for IIS

I was getting a consistent 15 second delay on the first request after 4 minutes of inactivity. My problem was that my app was using Windows Integrated Authentication to SQL Server and the service profile was in a different domain than the server. This caused a cross-domain authentication from IIS to SQL upon app initialization - and this was the real source of my delay. I changed to using a SQL login instead of windows authentication. The delay was immediately gone. I still have all the app initialization settings in place to help improve performance but they may have not been needed at all in my case.

How to monitor SQL Server table changes by using c#?

Use SqlTableDependency. It is a c# component raising events when a record is changes. You can find others detail at: https://github.com/christiandelbianco/monitor-table-change-with-sqltabledependency

It is similat to .NET SqlDependency except that SqlTableDependency raise events containing modified / deleted or updated database table values:

string conString = "data source=.;initial catalog=myDB;integrated security=True";

using(var tableDependency = new SqlTableDependency<Customers>(conString))
{
    tableDependency.OnChanged += TableDependency_Changed;
    tableDependency.Start();

    Console.WriteLine("Waiting for receiving notifications...");
    Console.WriteLine("Press a key to stop");
    Console.ReadKey();
}
...
...
void TableDependency_Changed(object sender, RecordChangedEventArgs<Customers> e)
{
    if (e.ChangeType != ChangeType.None)
    {
        var changedEntity = e.Entity;
        Console.WriteLine("DML operation: " + e.ChangeType);
        Console.WriteLine("ID: " + changedEntity.Id);
        Console.WriteLine("Name: " + changedEntity.Name);
        Console.WriteLine("Surname: " + changedEntity.Surname);
    }

How do you UrlEncode without using System.Web?

System.Uri.EscapeUriString() can be problematic with certain characters, for me it was a number / pound '#' sign in the string.

If that is an issue for you, try:

System.Uri.EscapeDataString() //Works excellent with individual values

Here is a SO question answer that explains the difference:

What's the difference between EscapeUriString and EscapeDataString?

and recommends to use Uri.EscapeDataString() in any aspect.

"Active Directory Users and Computers" MMC snap-in for Windows 7?

Hey guys it exist a much more sexy tool for a developper to have a look into a Directory, whatever the Directory is (Active-Directory, OpenLDAP, eDirectory ...) its name is Apache Directory studio, it works in the same way on the top of java in Windows or in Linux. It's a kind of universal LDP.EXE for those who know this tool on Windows Servers. It allows to create LDIF files and also to browse the SCHEMA.

How to float a div over Google Maps?

absolute positioning is evil... this solution doesn't take into account window size. If you resize the browser window, your div will be out of place!

Should you always favor xrange() over range()?

You should favour range() over xrange() only when you need an actual list. For instance, when you want to modify the list returned by range(), or when you wish to slice it. For iteration or even just normal indexing, xrange() will work fine (and usually much more efficiently). There is a point where range() is a bit faster than xrange() for very small lists, but depending on your hardware and various other details, the break-even can be at a result of length 1 or 2; not something to worry about. Prefer xrange().

Using python's eval() vs. ast.literal_eval()?

Python's eager in its evaluation, so eval(input(...)) (Python 3) will evaluate the user's input as soon as it hits the eval, regardless of what you do with the data afterwards. Therefore, this is not safe, especially when you eval user input.

Use ast.literal_eval.

As an example, entering this at the prompt could be very bad for you:

__import__('os').system('rm -rf /a-path-you-really-care-about')

What does 'super' do in Python?

I had played a bit with super(), and had recognized that we can change calling order.

For example, we have next hierarchy structure:

    A
   / \
  B   C
   \ /
    D

In this case MRO of D will be (only for Python 3):

In [26]: D.__mro__
Out[26]: (__main__.D, __main__.B, __main__.C, __main__.A, object)

Let's create a class where super() calls after method execution.

In [23]: class A(object): # or with Python 3 can define class A:
...:     def __init__(self):
...:         print("I'm from A")
...:
...: class B(A):
...:      def __init__(self):
...:          print("I'm from B")
...:          super().__init__()
...:
...: class C(A):
...:      def __init__(self):
...:          print("I'm from C")
...:          super().__init__()
...:
...: class D(B, C):
...:      def __init__(self):
...:          print("I'm from D")
...:          super().__init__()
...: d = D()
...:
I'm from D
I'm from B
I'm from C
I'm from A

    A
   / ?
  B ? C
   ? /
    D

So we can see that resolution order is same as in MRO. But when we call super() in the beginning of the method:

In [21]: class A(object):  # or class A:
...:     def __init__(self):
...:         print("I'm from A")
...:
...: class B(A):
...:      def __init__(self):
...:          super().__init__()  # or super(B, self).__init_()
...:          print("I'm from B")
...:
...: class C(A):
...:      def __init__(self):
...:          super().__init__()
...:          print("I'm from C")
...:
...: class D(B, C):
...:      def __init__(self):
...:          super().__init__()
...:          print("I'm from D")
...: d = D()
...:
I'm from A
I'm from C
I'm from B
I'm from D

We have a different order it is reversed a order of the MRO tuple.

    A
   / ?
  B ? C
   ? /
    D

Filter output in logcat by tagname

In case someone stumbles in on this like I did, you can filter on multiple tags by adding a comma in between, like so:

adb logcat -s "browser","webkit"

Remove all stylings (border, glow) from textarea

try this:

textarea {
        border-style: none;
        border-color: Transparent;
        overflow: auto;
        outline: none;
      }

Using Predicate in Swift

This is really just a syntax switch. OK, so we have this method call:

[NSPredicate predicateWithFormat:@"name contains[c] %@", searchText];

In Swift, constructors skip the "blahWith…" part and just use the class name as a function and then go straight to the arguments, so [NSPredicate predicateWithFormat: …] would become NSPredicate(format: …). (For another example, [NSArray arrayWithObject: …] would become NSArray(object: …). This is a regular pattern in Swift.)

So now we just need to pass the arguments to the constructor. In Objective-C, NSString literals look like @"", but in Swift we just use quotation marks for strings. So that gives us:

let resultPredicate = NSPredicate(format: "name contains[c] %@", searchText)

And in fact that is exactly what we need here.

(Incidentally, you'll notice some of the other answers instead use a format string like "name contains[c] \(searchText)". That is not correct. That uses string interpolation, which is different from predicate formatting and will generally not work for this.)

How to convert JSON string to array

If you ever need to convert JSON file or structures to PHP-style arrays, with all the nesting levels, you can use this function. First, you must json_decode($yourJSONdata) and then pass it to this function. It will output to your browser window (or console) the correct PHP styled arrays.

How to output oracle sql result into a file in windows?

Having the same chore on windows 10, and windows server 2012. I found the following solution:

echo quit |sqlplus schemaName/schemaPassword@sid @plsqlScript.sql > outputFile.log

Explanation

echo quit | send the quit command to exit sqlplus after the script completes

sqlplus schemaName/schemaPassword@sid @plsqlScript.sql execute plssql script plsqlScript.sql in schema schemaName with password schemaPassword connecting to SID sid

> outputFile.log redirect sqlplus output to log file outputFile.log

How can I get input radio elements to horizontally align?

In your case, you just need to remove the line breaks (<br> tags) between the elements - input elements are inline-block by default (in Chrome at least). (updated example).

<input type="radio" name="editList" value="always">Always
<input type="radio" name="editList" value="never">Never
<input type="radio" name="editList" value="costChange">Cost Change

I'd suggest using <label> elements, though. In doing so, clicking on the label will check the element too. Either associate the <label>'s for attribute with the <input>'s id: (example)

<input type="radio" name="editList" id="always" value="always"/>
<label for="always">Always</label>

<input type="radio" name="editList" id="never" value="never"/>
<label for="never">Never</label>

<input type="radio" name="editList" id="change" value="costChange"/>
<label for="change">Cost Change</label>

..or wrap the <label> elements around the <input> elements directly: (example)

<label>
    <input type="radio" name="editList" value="always"/>Always
</label>
<label>
    <input type="radio" name="editList" value="never"/>Never
</label>
<label>
    <input type="radio" name="editList" value="costChange"/>Cost Change
</label>

You can also get fancy and use the :checked pseudo class.

RestSharp JSON Parameter Posting

You don't have to serialize the body yourself. Just do

request.RequestFormat = DataFormat.Json;
request.AddJsonBody(new { A = "foo", B = "bar" }); // Anonymous type object is converted to Json body

If you just want POST params instead (which would still map to your model and is a lot more efficient since there's no serialization to JSON) do this:

request.AddParameter("A", "foo");
request.AddParameter("B", "bar");

Click outside menu to close in jquery

If using a plugin is ok in you case, then I suggest Ben Alman's clickoutside plugin located here:

its usage is as simple as this:

$('#menu').bind('clickoutside', function (event) {

});

hope this helps.

Truncating all tables in a Postgres database

If you can use psql you can use \gexec meta command to execute query output;

  JOIN pg_roles r ON r.oid = c.relowner
  WHERE
    ns.nspname = 'table schema' AND -- add table schema criteria
    r.rolname = 'table owner' AND -- add table owner criteria
    ns.nspname NOT IN ('pg_catalog', 'information_schema') AND -- exclude system schemas
    c.relkind = 'r' AND                                           -- tables only
    has_table_privilege(c.oid, 'TRUNCATE') -- check current user has truncate privilege
  \gexec

Note that \gexec is introduced into the version 9.6

How to run a .jar in mac?

You don't need JDK to run Java based programs. JDK is for development which stands for Java Development Kit.

You need JRE which should be there in Mac.

Try: java -jar Myjar_file.jar

EDIT: According to this article, for Mac OS 10

The Java runtime is no longer installed automatically as part of the OS installation.

Then, you need to install JRE to your machine.

How to correctly use "section" tag in HTML5?

that’s just wrong: is not a wrapper. The element denotes a semantic section of your content to help construct a document outline. It should contain a heading. If you’re looking for a page wrapper element (for any flavour of HTML or XHTML), consider applying styles directly to the element as described by Kroc Camen. If you still need an additional element for styling, use a . As Dr Mike explains, div isn’t dead, and if there’s nothing else more appropriate, it’s probably where you really want to apply your CSS.

How can I commit files with git?

It looks like all of the edits are already a part of the index. So to commit just use the commit command

git commit -m "My Commit Message"

Looking at your messages though my instinct says that you probably don't want the cache files to be included in your depot. Especially if it something that is built on the fly when running your program. If so then you should add the following line to your .gitignore file

httpdocs/newsite/manifest/cache/*

No serializer found for class org.hibernate.proxy.pojo.javassist.Javassist?

As it is correctly suggested in previous answers, lazy loading means that when you fetch your object from the database, the nested objects are not fetched (and may be fetched later when required).

Now Jackson tries to serialize the nested object (== make JSON out of it), but fails as it finds JavassistLazyInitializer instead of normal object. This is the error you see. Now, how to solve it?

As suggested by CP510 previously, one option is to suppress the error by this line of configuration:

spring.jackson.serialization.fail-on-empty-beans=false

But this is dealing with the symptoms, not the cause. To solve it elegantly, you need to decide whether you need this object in JSON or not?

  1. Should you need the object in JSON, remove the FetchType.LAZY option from the field that causes it (it might also be a field in some nested object, not only in the root entity you are fetching).

  2. If do not need the object in JSON, annotate the getter of this field (or the field itself, if you do not need to accept incoming values either) with @JsonIgnore, for example:

    // this field will not be serialized to/from JSON @JsonIgnore private NestedType secret;

Should you have more complex needs (e.g. different rules for different REST controllers using the same entity), you can use jackson views or filtering or for very simple use case, fetch nested objects separately.

VALUES
  (null,'','John','Doe','company','Streeet','city','county'
  ,'postcode','phone','','category','[email protected]','','');

If it's an autoincrement key this will fix your problem.
If not make id an autoincrement key, and always insert null into it to trigger an autoincrement.

MySQL has a setting to autoincrement keys only on null insert or on both inserts of 0 and null. Don't count on this setting, because your code may break if you change server.
If you insert null your code will always work.

See: http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/example-auto-increment.html

MySql Error: Can't update table in stored function/trigger because it is already used by statement which invoked this stored function/trigger

You cannot change a table while the INSERT trigger is firing. The INSERT might do some locking which could result in a deadlock. Also, updating the table from a trigger would then cause the same trigger to fire again in an infinite recursive loop. Both of these reasons are why MySQL prevents you from doing this.

However, depending on what you're trying to achieve, you can access the new values by using NEW.fieldname or even the old values--if doing an UPDATE--with OLD.

If you had a row named full_brand_name and you wanted to use the first two letters as a short name in the field small_name you could use:

CREATE TRIGGER `capital` BEFORE INSERT ON `brandnames`
FOR EACH ROW BEGIN
  SET NEW.short_name = CONCAT(UCASE(LEFT(NEW.full_name,1)) , LCASE(SUBSTRING(NEW.full_name,2)))
END

What is a reasonable length limit on person "Name" fields?

In the UK, there are a few government standards which deal successfully with the bulk of the UK population -- the Passport Office, the Driver & Vehicle Licensing Agency, the Deed Poll office, and the NHS. They use different standards, obviously.

Changing your name by Deed Poll allows 300 characters;

There is no legal limit on the length of your name, but we impose a limit of 300 characters (including spaces) for your full name.

The NHS uses 70 characters for patient names

PATIENT NAME
Format/length: max an70

The Passport Office allows 30+30 first/last and Driving Licenses (DVLA) is 30 total.

Note that other organisations will have their own restrictions about what they will show on the documents they produce — for HM Passport Office the limit is 30 characters each for your forename and your surname, and for the DVLA the limit is 30 characters in total for your full name.

What does "request for member '*******' in something not a structure or union" mean?

I have enumerated possibly all cases where this error may occur in code and its comments below. Please add to it, if you come across more cases.

    //(*aStructObjPtrPtr).member = 6; //Error
    //(typedefStructObjPtrPtr)->member = 7; //Error
    //(*typedefStructObjPtrPtr).member = 8; //Error
}

The underlying ideas are straight:

  • Use . with structure variable. (Cases 2 and 4)
  • Use -> with pointer to structure. (Cases 1 and 3)
  • If you reach structure variable or pointer to structure variable by following pointer, then wrap the pointer inside bracket: (*ptr). and (*ptr)-> vs *ptr. and *ptr-> (All cases except case 1)
  • If you are reaching by following pointers, ensure you have correctly reached pointer to struct or struct whichever is desired. (Case 5, especially 5.5)

Reducing MongoDB database file size

We need solve 2 ways, based on StorageEngine.

1. MMAP() engine:

command: db.repairDatabase()

NOTE: repairDatabase requires free disk space equal to the size of your current data set plus 2 gigabytes. If the volume that holds dbpath lacks sufficient space, you can mount a separate volume and use that for the repair. When mounting a separate volume for repairDatabase you must run repairDatabase from the command line and use the --repairpath switch to specify the folder in which to store temporary repair files. eg: Imagine DB size is 120 GB means, (120*2)+2 = 242 GB Hard Disk space required.

another way you do collection wise, command: db.runCommand({compact: 'collectionName'})

2. WiredTiger: Its automatically resolved it-self.

How to use subList()

To get the last element, simply use the size of the list as the second parameter. So for example, if you have 35 files, and you want the last five, you would do:

dataList.subList(30, 35);

A guaranteed safe way to do this is:

dataList.subList(Math.max(0, first), Math.min(dataList.size(), last) );

Is it possible to make Font Awesome icons larger than 'fa-5x'?

Alternatively you can edit the source and create your own incrementations

FontAwesome 5

https://github.com/FortAwesome/Font-Awesome/blob/master/web-fonts-with-css/less/_larger.less

// Icon Sizes
// -------------------------

.larger(@factor) when (@factor > 0) {
  .larger((@factor - 1));

  .@{fa-css-prefix}-@{factor}x {
    font-size: (@factor * 1em);
  }
}

/* makes the font 33% larger relative to the icon container */
.@{fa-css-prefix}-lg {
  font-size: (4em / 3);
  line-height: (3em / 4);
  vertical-align: -.0667em;
}

.@{fa-css-prefix}-xs {
  font-size: .75em;
}

.@{fa-css-prefix}-sm {
  font-size: .875em;
}

// Change the number below to create your own incrementations
// This currently creates classes .fa-1x - .fa-10x
.larger(10);

FontAwesome 4

https://github.com/FortAwesome/Font-Awesome/blob/v4.7.0/less/larger.less

// Icon Sizes

.@{fa-css-prefix}-3x { font-size: 3em; }
.@{fa-css-prefix}-4x { font-size: 4em; }
.@{fa-css-prefix}-5x { font-size: 5em; }

// Your custom sizes
.@{fa-css-prefix}-6x { font-size: 6em; }

How to run .sh on Windows Command Prompt?

Install the GitBash tool in the Windows OS. Set the below Path in the environment variables of System for the Git installation.

<Program Files in C:\>\Git\bin

<Program Files in C:\>\Git\usr\bin

Type 'sh' in cmd window to redirect into Bourne shell and run your commands in terminal.

Stacked Tabs in Bootstrap 3

Left, Right and Below tabs were removed from Bootstrap 3, but you can add custom CSS to achieve this..

.tabs-below > .nav-tabs,
.tabs-right > .nav-tabs,
.tabs-left > .nav-tabs {
  border-bottom: 0;
}

.tab-content > .tab-pane,
.pill-content > .pill-pane {
  display: none;
}

.tab-content > .active,
.pill-content > .active {
  display: block;
}

.tabs-below > .nav-tabs {
  border-top: 1px solid #ddd;
}

.tabs-below > .nav-tabs > li {
  margin-top: -1px;
  margin-bottom: 0;
}

.tabs-below > .nav-tabs > li > a {
  -webkit-border-radius: 0 0 4px 4px;
     -moz-border-radius: 0 0 4px 4px;
          border-radius: 0 0 4px 4px;
}

.tabs-below > .nav-tabs > li > a:hover,
.tabs-below > .nav-tabs > li > a:focus {
  border-top-color: #ddd;
  border-bottom-color: transparent;
}

.tabs-below > .nav-tabs > .active > a,
.tabs-below > .nav-tabs > .active > a:hover,
.tabs-below > .nav-tabs > .active > a:focus {
  border-color: transparent #ddd #ddd #ddd;
}

.tabs-left > .nav-tabs > li,
.tabs-right > .nav-tabs > li {
  float: none;
}

.tabs-left > .nav-tabs > li > a,
.tabs-right > .nav-tabs > li > a {
  min-width: 74px;
  margin-right: 0;
  margin-bottom: 3px;

UPDATE

If you don't need the exact look of a tab (bordered appropriately on the left or right as each tab is activated), you can simple use nav-stacked, along with Bootstrap col-* to float the tabs to the left or right...

nav-stacked demo: http://codeply.com/go/rv3Cvr0lZ4

<ul class="nav nav-pills nav-stacked col-md-3">
    <li><a href="#a" data-toggle="tab">1</a></li>
    <li><a href="#b" data-toggle="tab">2</a></li>
    <li><a href="#c" data-toggle="tab">3</a></li>
</ul>

Facebook Access Token for Pages

The documentation for this is good if not a little difficult to find.

Facebook Graph API - Page Tokens

After initializing node's fbgraph, you can run:

var facebookAccountID = yourAccountIdHere

graph
.setOptions(options)
.get(facebookAccountId + "/accounts", function(err, res) {
  console.log(res);
});

and receive a JSON response with the token you want to grab, located at:

res.data[0].access_token

How to access JSON Object name/value?

In stead of parsing JSON you can do like followng:

$.ajax({
  ..
  dataType: 'json' // using json, jquery will make parse for you
});

To access a property of your JSON do following:

data[0].name;

data[0].address;

Why you need data[0] because data is an array, so to its content retrieve you need data[0] (first element), which gives you an object {"name":"myName" ,"address": "myAddress" }.

And to access property of an object rule is:

Object.property

or sometimes

Object["property"] // in some case

So you need

data[0].name and so on to get what you want.

If you not

set dataType: json then you need to parse them using $.parseJSON() and to retrieve data like above.

How to make script execution wait until jquery is loaded

you can use the defer attribute to load the script at the really end.

<script type='text/javascript' src='myscript.js' defer='defer'></script>

but normally loading your script in correct order should do the trick, so be sure to place jquery inclusion before your own script

If your code is in the page and not in a separate js file so you have to execute your script only after the document is ready and encapsulating your code like this should work too:

$(function(){
//here goes your code
});

Insert picture into Excel cell

While my recommendation is to take advantage of the automation available from Doality.com specifically Picture Manager for Excel

The following vba code should meet your criteria. Good Luck!

Add a Button Control to your Excel Workbook and then double click on the button in order to get to the VBA Code -->

Sub Button1_Click()
    Dim filePathCell As Range
    Dim imageLocationCell As Range
    Dim filePath As String

    Set filePathCell = Application.InputBox(Prompt:= _
        "Please select the cell that contains the reference path to your image file", _
            Title:="Specify File Path", Type:=8)

     Set imageLocationCell = Application.InputBox(Prompt:= _
        "Please select the cell where you would like your image to be inserted.", _
            Title:="Image Cell", Type:=8)

    If filePathCell Is Nothing Then
       MsgBox ("Please make a selection for file path")
       Exit Sub
    Else
      If filePathCell.Cells.Count > 1 Then
        MsgBox ("Please select only a single cell that contains the file location")
        Exit Sub
      Else
        filePath = Cells(filePathCell.Row, filePathCell.Column).Value
      End If
    End If

    If imageLocationCell Is Nothing Then
       MsgBox ("Please make a selection for image location")
       Exit Sub
    Else
      If imageLocationCell.Cells.Count > 1 Then
        MsgBox ("Please select only a single cell where you want the image to be populated")
        Exit Sub
      Else
        InsertPic filePath, imageLocationCell
        Exit Sub
      End If
    End If
End Sub

Then create your Insert Method as follows:

Private Sub InsertPic(filePath As String, ByVal insertCell As Range)
    Dim xlShapes As Shapes
    Dim xlPic As Shape
    Dim xlWorksheet As Worksheet

    If IsEmpty(filePath) Or Len(Dir(filePath)) = 0 Then
        MsgBox ("File Path invalid")
        Exit Sub
    End If

    Set xlWorksheet = ActiveSheet

    Set xlPic = xlWorksheet.Shapes.AddPicture(filePath, msoFalse, msoCTrue, insertCell.top, insertCell.left, insertCell.width, insertCell.height)
    xlPic.LockAspectRatio = msoCTrue
End Sub

How to make layout with rounded corners..?

A better way to do it would be:

background_activity.xml

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<layer-list xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
    <item android:gravity="fill">
        <color android:color="@color/black"/>
    </item>
    <item>
        <shape android:gravity="fill">
            <solid android:color="@color/white"/>
            <corners android:radius="10dip"/>
            <padding android:left="0dip" android:top="0dip" android:right="0dip" android:bottom="0dip" />
        </shape>
    </item>
</layer-list>

This will work below API 21 also, and give you something like this:

Result

If you are willing to make a little more effort more better control, then use android.support.v7.widget.CardView with its cardCornerRadius attribute (and set elevation attribute to 0dp to get rid of any accompanying drop shadow with the cardView). Also, this will work from API level as low as 15.

Multiple Cursors in Sublime Text 2 Windows

In Sublime Text, after you select multiple regions of text, a click is considered a way to exit the multi-select mode. Move the cursor with the keyboard keys (arrows, Ctrl+arrows, etc.) instead, and you'll be fine

How to set a hidden value in Razor

While I would have gone with Piotr's answer (because it's all in one line), I was surprised that your sample is closer to your solution than you think. From what you have, you simply assign the model value before you use the Html helper method.

@{Model.RequiredProperty = "default";}
@Html.HiddenFor(model => model.RequiredProperty)

Detecting touch screen devices with Javascript

I have tested following code mentioned above in the discussion

 function is_touch_device() {
    return !!('ontouchstart' in window);
 }

works on android Mozilla, chrome, Opera, android default browser and safari on iphone... all positive ...

seems solid for me :)

jQuery - Trigger event when an element is removed from the DOM

For those who use jQuery UI:

jQuery UI has overridden some of the jQuery methods to implement a remove event that gets handled not only when you explicitly remove the given element, but also if the element gets removed from the DOM by any self-cleaning jQuery methods (e.g. replace, html, etc.). This basically allows you to put a hook into the same events that get fired when jQuery is "cleaning up" the events and data associated with a DOM element.

John Resig has indicated that he's open to the idea of implementing this event in a future version of jQuery core, but I'm not sure where it stands currently.

Getting content/message from HttpResponseMessage

You can use the GetStringAsync method:

var uri = new Uri("http://yoururlhere");
var response = await client.GetStringAsync(uri);

CSS: Position loading indicator in the center of the screen

This is what I've done for Angular 4:

<style type="text/css">
  .centered {
    position: fixed;
    top: 50%;
    left: 50%;
    transform: translate(-50%, -50%);
    transform: -webkit-translate(-50%, -50%);
    transform: -moz-translate(-50%, -50%);
    transform: -ms-translate(-50%, -50%);
    color:darkred;
  }
</style>

</head>

<body>
  <app-root>
        <div class="centered">
          <h1>Loading...</h1>
        </div>
  </app-root>
</body>

How to convert an array of strings to an array of floats in numpy?

You can use this as well

import numpy as np
x=np.array(['1.1', '2.2', '3.3'])
x=np.asfarray(x,float)

How to format x-axis time scale values in Chart.js v2

as per the Chart js documentation page tick configuration section. you can format the value of each tick using the callback function. for example I wanted to change locale of displayed dates to be always German. in the ticks parts of the axis options

ticks: {
    callback: function(value) {
        return new Date(value).toLocaleDateString('de-DE', {month:'short', year:'numeric'});
    },
},

How does spring.jpa.hibernate.ddl-auto property exactly work in Spring?

For the record, the spring.jpa.hibernate.ddl-auto property is Spring Data JPA specific and is their way to specify a value that will eventually be passed to Hibernate under the property it knows, hibernate.hbm2ddl.auto.

The values create, create-drop, validate, and update basically influence how the schema tool management will manipulate the database schema at startup.

For example, the update operation will query the JDBC driver's API to get the database metadata and then Hibernate compares the object model it creates based on reading your annotated classes or HBM XML mappings and will attempt to adjust the schema on-the-fly.

The update operation for example will attempt to add new columns, constraints, etc but will never remove a column or constraint that may have existed previously but no longer does as part of the object model from a prior run.

Typically in test case scenarios, you'll likely use create-drop so that you create your schema, your test case adds some mock data, you run your tests, and then during the test case cleanup, the schema objects are dropped, leaving an empty database.

In development, it's often common to see developers use update to automatically modify the schema to add new additions upon restart. But again understand, this does not remove a column or constraint that may exist from previous executions that is no longer necessary.

In production, it's often highly recommended you use none or simply don't specify this property. That is because it's common practice for DBAs to review migration scripts for database changes, particularly if your database is shared across multiple services and applications.

Angular 2 @ViewChild annotation returns undefined

My solution to this was to replace *ngIf with [hidden]. Downside was all the child components were present in the code DOM. But worked for my requirements.

Segmentation Fault - C

Catastrophically bad:

int main(void){
      char *s;
      int ln;
      puts("Enter String");
      // scanf("%s", s);
      gets(s);
      ln = strlen(s); // remove this line to end seg fault
      char *dyn_s = (char*) malloc (strlen(s)+1); //strlen(s) is used here as well but doesn't change outcome
      dyn_s = s;
      dyn_s[strlen(s)] = '\0';
      puts(dyn_s);
      return 0;
    }

Better:

#include <stdio.h>
#define BUF_SIZE 80

int
main(int argc, char *argv[])
{
      char s[BUF_SIZE];
      int ln;
      puts("Enter String");
      // scanf("%s", s);
      gets(s);
      ln = strlen(s); // remove this line to end seg fault
      char *dyn_s = (char*) malloc (strlen(s)+1); //strlen(s) is used here as well but doesn't change outcome
      dyn_s = s;
      dyn_s[strlen(s)] = '\0';
      puts(dyn_s);
      return 0;
    }

Best:

#include <stdio.h>
#define BUF_SIZE 80

int
main(int argc, char *argv[])
{
      char s[BUF_SIZE];
      int ln;
      puts("Enter String");
      fgets(s, BUF_SIZE, stdin); // Use fgets (our "cin"): NEVER "gets()"

      int ln = strlen(s);
      char *dyn_s = (char*) malloc (ln+1);
      strcpy (dyn_s, s);
      puts(dyn_s);
      return 0;
    }

How to deal with floating point number precision in JavaScript?

To handle arbitrary floating number:

function shorten(num) {
    num += 0.000000001;// to deal with "12.03999999997" form
    num += '';
    return num.replace(/(\.\d*?)0{5,}\d+$/, '$1') * 1;
}

Fixed by running this following comments.

grant all on *.* to 'web2vi'@'%' identified by 'root' with grant option;
FLUSH PRIVILEGES;

if you are getting some_other instead of web2vi then you have to change the name accordingly.

`&mdash;` or `&#8212;` is there any difference in HTML output?

Could be that using the numeral code is more universal, as it's a direct reference to a character in the html entity table, but I guess they both work everywhere. The first notation is just massively easier to remember for a lot of characters.

Change PictureBox's image to image from my resources?

Ken has the right solution, but you don't want to add the picturebox.Image.Load() member method.

If you do it with a Load and the ImageLocation is not set, it will fail with a "Image Location must be set" exception. If you use the picturebox.Refresh() member method, it works without the exception.

Completed code below:

public void showAnimatedPictureBox(PictureBox thePicture)
{
            thePicture.Image = Properties.Resources.hamster;
            thePicture.Refresh();
            thePicture.Visible = true;
}

It is invoked as: showAnimatedPictureBox( myPictureBox );

My XAML looks like:

    <Window
        xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation"
        xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml"
        xmlns:wfi="clr-namespace:System.Windows.Forms.Integration;assembly=WindowsFormsIntegration"
        xmlns:winForms="clr-namespace:System.Windows.Forms;assembly=System.Windows.Forms"
        xmlns:d="http://schemas.microsoft.com/expression/blend/2008" xmlns:mc="http://schemas.openxmlformats.org/markup-compatibility/2006" mc:Ignorable="d" x:Class="myApp.MainWindow"
        Title="myApp" Height="679.079" Width="986">

        <StackPanel Width="136" Height="Auto" Background="WhiteSmoke" x:Name="statusPanel">
            <wfi:WindowsFormsHost>
                <winForms:PictureBox x:Name="myPictureBox">
                </winForms:PictureBox>
            </wfi:WindowsFormsHost>
            <Label x:Name="myLabel" Content="myLabel" Margin="10,3,10,5" FontSize="20" FontWeight="Bold" Visibility="Hidden"/>
        </StackPanel>
</Window>

I realize this is an old post, but loading the image directly from a resource is was extremely unclear on Microsoft's site, and this was the (partial) solution I came to. Hope it helps someone!

How do I dump an object's fields to the console?

I came across this thread because I was looking for something similar. I like the responses and they gave me some ideas so I tested the .to_hash method and worked really well for the use case too. soo:

object.to_hash

What exactly is Python's file.flush() doing?

Because the operating system may not do so. The flush operation forces the file data into the file cache in RAM, and from there it's the OS's job to actually send it to the disk.

How to fix the datetime2 out-of-range conversion error using DbContext and SetInitializer?

In some cases, DateTime.MinValue (or equivalenly, default(DateTime)) is used to indicate an unknown value.

This simple extension method can help handle such situations:

public static class DbDateHelper
{
    /// <summary>
    /// Replaces any date before 01.01.1753 with a Nullable of
    /// DateTime with a value of null.
    /// </summary>
    /// <param name="date">Date to check</param>
    /// <returns>Input date if valid in the DB, or Null if date is
    /// too early to be DB compatible.</returns>
    public static DateTime? ToNullIfTooEarlyForDb(this DateTime date)
    {
        return (date >= (DateTime) SqlDateTime.MinValue) ? date : (DateTime?)null;
    }
}

Usage:

 DateTime? dateToPassOnToDb = tooEarlyDate.ToNullIfTooEarlyForDb();

How to call a method in another class in Java?

in School,

public void addTeacherName(classroom classroom, String teacherName) {
    classroom.setTeacherName(teacherName);
}

BTW, use Pascal Case for class names. Also, I would suggest a Map<String, classroom> to map a classroom name to a classroom.

Then, if you use my suggestion, this would work

public void addTeacherName(String className, String teacherName) {
    classrooms.get(className).setTeacherName(teacherName);
}

    -webkit-border-radius: 50%;
}

How big can a MySQL database get before performance starts to degrade

Query performance mainly depends on the number of records it needs to scan, indexes plays a high role in it and index data size is proportional to number of rows and number of indexes.

Queries with indexed field conditions along with full value would be returned in 1ms generally, but starts_with, IN, Between, obviously contains conditions might take more time with more records to scan.

Also you will face lot of maintenance issues with DDL, like ALTER, DROP will be slow and difficult with more live traffic even for adding a index or new columns.

Generally its advisable to cluster the Database into as many clusters as required (500GB would be a general benchmark, as said by others it depends on many factors and can vary based on use cases) that way it gives better isolation and gives independence to scale specific clusters (more suited in case of B2B)

Including a css file in a blade template?

@include directive allows you to include a Blade view from within another view, like this :

@include('another.view')

Include CSS or JS from master layout

asset()

The asset function generates a URL for an asset using the current scheme of the request (HTTP or HTTPS):

<link href="{{ asset('css/styles.css') }}" rel="stylesheet">
<script type="text/javascript" src="{{ asset('js/scripts.js') }}"></script>

mix()

If you are using versioned Mix file, you can also use mix() function. It will returns the path to a versioned Mix file:

<link href="{{ mix('css/styles.css') }}" rel="stylesheet">
<script type="text/javascript" src="{{ mix('js/scripts.js') }}"></script>

Incude CSS or JS from sub-view, use @push().

layout.blade.php

<html>
    <head>
        <!-- push target to head -->
        @stack('styles')
        @stack('scripts')
    </head>
    <body>

        <!-- or push target to footer -->
        @stack('scripts')
    </body>
</html

view.blade.php

@push('styles')
    <link href="{{ asset('css/styles.css') }}" rel="stylesheet">
@endpush

@push('scripts')
    <script type="text/javascript" src="{{ asset('js/scripts.js') }}"></script>
@endpush

How to get Locale from its String representation in Java?

See the Locale.getLanguage(), Locale.getCountry()... Store this combination in the database instead of the "programatic name"...
When you want to build the Locale back, use public Locale(String language, String country)

Here is a sample code :)

// May contain simple syntax error, I don't have java right now to test..
// but this is a bigger picture for your algo...
public String localeToString(Locale l) {
    return l.getLanguage() + "," + l.getCountry();
}

public Locale stringToLocale(String s) {
    StringTokenizer tempStringTokenizer = new StringTokenizer(s,",");
    if(tempStringTokenizer.hasMoreTokens())
    String l = tempStringTokenizer.nextElement();
    if(tempStringTokenizer.hasMoreTokens())
    String c = tempStringTokenizer.nextElement();
    return new Locale(l,c);
}
