Removing items from a ListBox in VB.net

Use simply:

ListBox2.Items.Clear()
  • To take your last edit into account: Do that before you add the new items

Removes all items from the collection.

Note that the problem with your approach is that RemoveAt changes the index of all remaining items.

When you remove an item from the list, the indexes change for subsequent items in the list. All information about the removed item is deleted. You can use this method to remove a specific item from the list by specifying the index of the item to remove from the list. To specify the item to remove instead of the index to the item, use the Remove method. To remove all items from the list, use the Clear method.

If you want to use RemoveAt anyway, you can go backwards, for example with:

COPY with docker but with exclusion

In my case, my Dockerfile contained an installation step, which produced the vendor directory (the PHP equivalent of node_modules). I then COPY this directory over to the final application image. Therefore, I could not put vendor in my .dockerignore. My solution was simply to delete the directory before performing composer install (the PHP equivalent of npm install).

  • As Joey notes in a comment, PowerShell has a powerful, regex-based -split operator.

    • In its unary form (-split '...'), -split behaves like awk's default field splitting, which means that:
      • Leading and trailing whitespace is ignored.
      • Any run of whitespace (e.g., multiple adjacent spaces) is treated as a single separator.
  • In PowerShell v4+ an expression-based - and therefore faster - alternative to the ForEach-Object cmdlet became available: the .ForEach() array (collection) method, as described in this blog post (alongside the .Where() method, a more powerful, expression-based alternative to Where-Object).

Here's a solution based on these features:

The solution of Çagatay Gürtürk is nice but I experienced the same weirdness described by Luke The Obscure:

When ajax loading lasts too much (or mouse events are too quick) we have a .popover('show') and no .popover('hide') on a given element causing the popover to remain open.

I preferred this massive-pre-load solution, all popover-contents are loaded and events are handled by bootstrap like in normal (static) popovers.

Wait until a process ends

I had a case where Process.HasExited didn't change after closing the window belonging to the process. So Process.WaitForExit() also didn't work. I had to monitor Process.Responding that went to false after closing the window like that:

I was getting this too, had me baffled for a while, even with the module and types already installed and reloading my IDE several times.

What fixed it in my case was terminating terminal processes, removing node_modules, clearing the node package manager cache and doing a fresh install then re-loading the editor.

Removing print statements can also fix the problem.

Apart from loading images, this error also happens when your code is printing continuously at a high rate, which is causing the error "IOPub data rate exceeded". E.g. if you have a print statement in a for loop somewhere that is being called over 1000 times.

How to Allow Remote Access to PostgreSQL database

In addition to above answers suggesting (1) the modification of the configuration files pg_hba.conf and (2) postgresql.conf and (3) restarting the PostgreSQL service, some Windows computers might also require incoming TCP traffic to be allowed on the port (usually 5432).

To do this, you would need to open Windows Firewall and add an inbound rule for the port (e.g. 5432).

Head to Control Panel\System and Security\Windows Defender Firewall > Advanced Settings > Actions (right tab) > Inbound Rules > New Rule… > Port > Specific local ports and type in the port your using, usually 5432 > (defaults settings for the rest and type any name you'd like)

For future people struggling with a similar problem, the situation is that the compiler simply cannot find the type you are using (even if your Intelisense can find it).

This can be caused in many ways:

  • You forgot to #include the header that defines it.
  • Your inclusion guards (#ifndef BLAH_H) are defective (your #ifndef BLAH_H doesn't match your #define BALH_H due to a typo or copy+paste mistake).
  • Your inclusion guards are accidentally used twice (two separate files both using #define MYHEADER_H, even if they are in separate directories)
  • You forgot that you are using a template (eg. new Vector() should be new Vector<int>())
  • The compiler is thinking you meant one scope when really you meant another (For example, if you have NamespaceA::NamespaceB, AND a <global scope>::NamespaceB, if you are already within NamespaceA, it'll look in NamespaceA::NamespaceB and not bother checking <global scope>::NamespaceB) unless you explicitly access it.
  • You have a name clash (two entities with the same name, such as a class and an enum member).

To explicitly access something in the global namespace, prefix it with ::, as if the global namespace is a namespace with no name (e.g. ::MyType or ::MyNamespace::MyType).

Algorithm to find Largest prime factor of a number

Actually there are several more efficient ways to find factors of big numbers (for smaller ones trial division works reasonably well).

One method which is very fast if the input number has two factors very close to its square root is known as Fermat factorisation. It makes use of the identity N = (a + b)(a - b) = a^2 - b^2 and is easy to understand and implement. Unfortunately it's not very fast in general.

The best known method for factoring numbers up to 100 digits long is the Quadratic sieve. As a bonus, part of the algorithm is easily done with parallel processing.

Yet another algorithm I've heard of is Pollard's Rho algorithm. It's not as efficient as the Quadratic Sieve in general but seems to be easier to implement.


Once you've decided on how to split a number into two factors, here is the fastest algorithm I can think of to find the largest prime factor of a number:

Create a priority queue which initially stores the number itself. Each iteration, you remove the highest number from the queue, and attempt to split it into two factors (not allowing 1 to be one of those factors, of course). If this step fails, the number is prime and you have your answer! Otherwise you add the two factors into the queue and repeat.

Step1: on click of the radio button it calls function populate data, with event (an object that has event details such as name of the element, value etc..);

Converting HTML to plain text in PHP for e-mail

For texts in utf-8, it worked for me mb_convert_encoding. To process everything regardless of errors, make sure you use the "@".

The basic code I use is:

Get mouse wheel events in jQuery?

The plugin that @DarinDimitrov posted, jquery-mousewheel, is broken with jQuery 3+. It would be more advisable to use jquery-wheel which works with jQuery 3+.

If you don't want to go the jQuery route, MDN highly cautions using the mousewheel event as it's nonstandard and unsupported in many places. It instead says that you should use the wheel event as you get much more specificity over exactly what the values you're getting mean. It's supported by most major browsers.

There are two extensions for memcached in PHP, "memcache" and "memcached".

To get the value equivalent to your C cast, just bitwise and with the appropriate mask. e.g. if unsigned long is 32 bit:

Do be aware though that although that gives you the value you would have in C, it is still a signed value, so any subsequent calculations may give a negative result and you'll have to continue to apply the mask to simulate a 32 or 64 bit calculation.

This works because although Python looks like it stores all numbers as sign and magnitude, the bitwise operations are defined as working on two's complement values. C stores integers in twos complement but with a fixed number of bits. Python bitwise operators act on twos complement values but as though they had an infinite number of bits: for positive numbers they extend leftwards to infinity with zeros, but negative numbers extend left with ones. The & operator will change that leftward string of ones into zeros and leave you with just the bits that would have fit into the C value.

Displaying the values in hex may make this clearer (and I rewrote to string of f's as an expression to show we are interested in either 32 or 64 bits):

For a 32 bit value in C, positive numbers go up to 2147483647 (0x7fffffff), and negative numbers have the top bit set going from -1 (0xffffffff) down to -2147483648 (0x80000000). For values that fit entirely in the mask, we can reverse the process in Python by using a smaller mask to remove the sign bit and then subtracting the sign bit:

Or for the 64 bit version:

There's another way to do this by splitting the repo from the working tree.

This method is useful if you need to update these git-less git files on a regular basis. For instance, I use it when I need to check out source files and build an artifact, then copy the artifact into a different repo just for deployment to a server, and I also use it when pushing source code to a server when I want the source code to checkout and build into the www directory.

We'll make two folders, one for the git one for the working files:

mkdir workingfiles
mkdir barerepo.git

initialize a bare git repo:

cd barerepo.git
git --bare init 

Then create a post-receive hook:

Unlike other solutions rm -r .git command is not needed, so if /workingfiles/ is some other git repo you don't have to worry about the command used removing the other repo's git files.

If you focus() first, then push the val() into the input, the cursor will get positioned to the end of the input value in Firefox,Chrome and IE. If you push the val() into the input field first, Firefox and Chrome position the cursor at the end, but IE positions it to the front when you focus().

Can't start hostednetwork

Let alone enabling the network adapter under Device Manager may not help. The following helped me resolved the issue.

I tried Disabling and Enabling the Wifi Adapter (i.e. the actual Wifi device adapter not the virtual adapters) in Control Panel -> Network and Internet -> Network Connections altogether worked for me. The same can be done from the Device Manager too. This surely resets the adapter settings and for the Wifi Adapter and the Virtual Miniport adapters.

However, please make sure that the mode is set to allow as in the below example before you run the start command.

netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=ssidOfUrChoice key=keyOfUrChoice

and after that run the command netsh wlan start hostednetwork.

Also once the usage is over with the Miniport adapter connection, it is a good practice to stop it using the following command.

netsh wlan stop hostednetwork

Manipulating an Access database from Java without ODBC

UCanAccess is a pure Java JDBC driver that allows us to read from and write to Access databases without using ODBC. It uses two other packages, Jackcess and HSQLDB, to perform these tasks. The following is a brief overview of how to get it set up.

 

Option 1: Using Maven

If your project uses Maven you can simply include UCanAccess via the following coordinates:

groupId: net.sf.ucanaccess
artifactId: ucanaccess

The following is an excerpt from pom.xml, you may need to update the <version> to get the most recent release:

HSQLDB (hsqldb.jar, version 2.2.5 or newer)
Jackcess (jackcess-2.x.x.jar)
commons-lang (commons-lang-2.6.jar, or newer 2.x version)
commons-logging (commons-logging-1.1.1.jar, or newer 1.x version)

Fortunately, UCanAccess includes all of the required JAR files in its distribution file. When you unzip it you will see something like

Eclipse: Right-click the project in Package Explorer and choose Build Path > Configure Build Path.... Click the "Add External JARs..." button to add each of the five (5) JARs. When you are finished your Java Build Path should look something like this

To those arriving via web search (several years later)...

When using screen, your scrollback buffer is a combination of both the screen scrollback buffer as the two previous answers have noted, as well as your putty scrollback buffer.

Be sure that you are increasing BOTH the putty scrollback buffer as well as the screen scrollback buffer, else your putty window itself won't let you scroll back to see your screen's scrollback history (overcome by scrolling within screen with ctrl+a->ctrl+u)

You can change your putty scrollback limit under the "Window" category in the settings. Exiting and reopening a putty session to your screen won't close your screen (assuming you just close the putty window and don't type exit), as the OP asked for.

Hope that helps identify why increasing the screen's scrollback buffer doesn't solve someone's problem.

What is the difference between "mvn deploy" to a local repo and "mvn install"?

"matt b" has it right, but to be specific, the "install" goal copies your built target to the local repository on your file system; useful for small changes across projects not currently meant for the full group.

The "deploy" goal uploads it to your shared repository for when your work is finished, and then can be shared by other people who require it for their project.

In your case, it seems that "install" is used to make the management of the deployment easier since CI's local repo is the shared repo. If CI was on another box, it would have to use the "deploy" goal.

The error message indicates a problem with the locale setting. To fix this as indicated by other answers you need to modify your locale.

On Mac OS X Sierra I found that the best way to do this was to modify the ~/bash_profile file as follows:

When you do this:

Applying a single font to an entire website with CSS

As a different font is likely to be already defined by the browser for form elements, here are 2 ways to use this font everywhere:

There'll still have a monospace font on elements like pre/code, kbd, etc but, in case you use these elements, you'd better use a monospace font there.

Important note: if very few people has this font installed on their OS, then the second font in the list will be used. Here you defined no second font so the default serif font will be used, and it'll be Times, Times New Roman except maybe on Linux.
Two options there: use @font-face if your font is free of use as a downloadable font or add fallback(s): a second, a third, etc and finally a default family (sans-serif, cursive (*), monospace or serif). The first of the list that exists on the OS of the user will be used.

(*) default cursive on Windows is Comic Sans. Except if you want to troll Windows users, don't do that :) This font is terrible except for your children birthdays where it's welcome.

  1. You have to have your method in parent class without any parameter and use - -

  2. Now, with 'cl' you can access all child class fields with their name and initialized values by using - -

  3. In this situation your 'this' pointer will reference your child class object if you are calling parent method through your child class object.

If you're not sure what you're doing, use the '=='. If you have a little more knowledge about it you can use 'is' for known objects like 'None'.

If you define it inside the loop, then it will always reference the last row in the table in the database. In order to avoid this, you have to identify it outside the loop:

As Tyler points out, there's no way to do what you require "directly and reliably", since a given FD may correspond to 0 filenames (in various cases) or > 1 (multiple "hard links" is how the latter situation is generally described). If you do still need the functionality with all the limitations (on speed AND on the possibility of getting 0, 2, ... results rather than 1), here's how you can do it: first, fstat the FD -- this tells you, in the resulting struct stat, what device the file lives on, how many hard links it has, whether it's a special file, etc. This may already answer your question -- e.g. if 0 hard links you will KNOW there is in fact no corresponding filename on disk.

If the stats give you hope, then you have to "walk the tree" of directories on the relevant device until you find all the hard links (or just the first one, if you don't need more than one and any one will do). For that purpose, you use readdir (and opendir &c of course) recursively opening subdirectories until you find in a struct dirent thus received the same inode number you had in the original struct stat (at which time if you want the whole path, rather than just the name, you'll need to walk the chain of directories backwards to reconstruct it).

If this general approach is acceptable, but you need more detailed C code, let us know, it won't be hard to write (though I'd rather not write it if it's useless, i.e. you cannot withstand the inevitably slow performance or the possibility of getting != 1 result for the purposes of your application;-).

ImproperlyConfigured: No URL to redirect to. Either provide a url or define a get_absolute_url method on the Model.

That is because the CreateView will return a redirect response instead of returning a HttpResponse when you to send JSON request to the browser. The easiest way is to use the strconv.Atoi() function.

Note that there are many other ways. For example fmt.Sscan() and strconv.ParseInt() which give greater flexibility as you can specify the base and bitsize for example. Also as noted in the documentation of strconv.Atoi():

Atoi is equivalent to ParseInt(s, 10, 0), converted to type int.

There is also a handy fmt.Sscanf() which gives even greater flexibility as with the format string you can specify the number format (like width, base etc.) along with additional extra characters in the input string.

This is great for parsing custom strings holding a number. For example if your input is provided in a form of "id:00123" where you have a prefix "id:" and the number is fixed 5 digits, padded with zeros if shorter, this is very easily parsable like this:

To summarize, Helios, Galileo, Ganymede, etc are just code names for versions of the Eclipse platform (personally, I'd prefer Eclipse to use traditional version numbers instead of code names, it would make things clearer and easier). My suggestion would be to use the latest version, i.e. Eclipse Oxygen (4.7) (in the original version of this answer, it said "Helios (3.6.1)").

Well you seem to have mistaken them both for what they do.

$(window).height() gets you an unit-less pixel value of the height of the (browser) window aka viewport. With respect to the web browsers the viewport here is visible portion of the canvas(which often is smaller than the document being rendered).

$(document).height() returns an unit-less pixel value of the height of the document being rendered. However, if the actual document’s body height is less than the viewport height then it will return the viewport height instead.

EC2 instance has no public DNS

After verifying VPC and Subnet settings, my EC2 instance still didn't have a public DNS. After a day of searching for a resolution, I finally figured it out.

I had to create a new Elastic IP address, then associate it to my instance.

From the EC2 Dashboard:

Go to Elastic IPs from the sidebar.

Click Allocate new address, then Allocate.

Go back to the EC2 Dashboard. Go to Network Interfaces.

Select the EC2 instance without a public DNS. Then Actions - Associate Address.

The Address field, select the new elastic IP address.

The Associate to private IP address field, select the private IP address with no public DNS.

Click Associate Address.

Your EC2 instance should now have a public DNS.

HashMap - getting First Key value

Improving whoami's answer. Since findFirst() returns an Optional, it is a good practice to check if there is a value.

If you are running a nginx + uwsgi setup vagrant then the main problem is the Virtual box bug with send file as mentioned in some of the answers. However to resolve it you have to disable sendfile in both nginx and uwsgi.

You can not hide but using overflow hidden you can actually make it disappear.

I solved this issue by going on the branch with the commit I want to cherry pick.

use log to find commit hash

when you've found your hash cut and paste on note pad. if using command just scroll up to get the hash then checkout the branch you want to place the commit in.

finally call cherry-pick from git (note) -x is to append your cherry-pick message to the original. "When recording the commit, append a line that says "(cherry picked from commit …?)" to the original commit message in order to indicate which commit this change was cherry-picked from. "

Transparent background on winforms?

I had drawn a splash screen (32bpp BGRA) with "transparent" background color in VS2013 and put a pictureBox in a form for display. For me a combination of above answers worked:
