The reason you separate the login and non-login shell is because the .bashrc file is reloaded every time you start a new copy of Bash. The .profile file is loaded only when you either log in or use the appropriate flag to tell Bash to act as a login shell.

Personally,

  • I put my PATH setup into a .profile file (because I sometimes use other shells);
  • I put my Bash aliases and functions into my .bashrc file;
  • I put this

Oh, and the reason you need to type bash again to get the new alias is that Bash loads your .bashrc file when it starts but it doesn't reload it unless you tell it to. You can reload the .bashrc file (and not need a second shell) by typing

which loads the .bashrc file as if you had typed the commands directly to Bash.

Run a task every x-minutes with Windows Task Scheduler

The task must be configured in two steps.

First you create a simple task that start at 0:00, every day. Then, you go in Advanced... (or similar depending on the operating system you are on) and select the Repeat every X minutes option for 24 hours.

The key here is to find the advanced properties. If you are using the XP wizard, it will only offer you to launch the advanced dialog once you created the task.

On more recent versions of Windows (7+ I think?):

  1. Double click the task and a property window will show up.
  2. Click the Triggers tab.
  3. Double click the trigger details and the Edit Trigger window will show up.
  4. Under Advanced settings panel, tick Repeat task every xxx minutes, and set Indefinitely if you need.
  5. Finally, click ok.

There is text-decoration-thickness, currently part of CSS Text Decoration Module Level 4. It's at "Editor's Draft" stage - so it's a work in progress and subject to change. As of January 2020, it is only supported in Firefox and Safari.

Python: List vs Dict for look up table

You want a dict.

For (unsorted) lists in Python, the "in" operation requires O(n) time---not good when you have a large amount of data. A dict, on the other hand, is a hash table, so you can expect O(1) lookup time.

As others have noted, you might choose a set (a special type of dict) instead, if you only have keys rather than key/value pairs.

Oracle - How to create a materialized view with FAST REFRESH and JOINS

Moment.js transform to date object

As long as you have initialized moment-timezone with the data for the zones you want, your code works as expected.

You are correctly converting the moment to the time zone, which is reflected in the second line of output from momentObj.format().

Switching to UTC doesn't just drop the offset, it changes back to the UTC time zone. If you're going to do that, you don't need the original .tz() call at all. You could just do moment.utc().

Perhaps you are just trying to change the output format string? If so, just specify the parameters you want to the format method:

momentObj.format("YYYY-MM-DD HH:mm:ss")

Regarding the last to lines of your code - when you go back to a Date object using toDate(), you are giving up the behavior of moment.js and going back to JavaScript's behavior. A JavaScript Date object will always be printed in the local time zone of the computer it's running on. There's nothing moment.js can do about that.

A couple of other little things:

  • While the moment constructor can take a Date, it is usually best to not use one. For "now", don't use moment(new Date()). Instead, just use moment(). Both will work but it's unnecessarily redundant. If you are parsing from a string, pass that string directly into moment. Don't try to parse it to a Date first. You will find moment's parser to be much more reliable.

  • Time Zones like MST7MDT are there for backwards compatibility reasons. They stem from POSIX style time zones, and only a few of them are in the TZDB data. Unless absolutely necessary, you should use a key such as America/Denver.

Without seeing your code, it's hard to answer other than a stab in the dark. I would guess that the string you're passing to encodeURIComponent(), which is the correct method to use, is coming from the result of accessing the innerHTML property. The solution is to get the innerText/textContent property value instead:

Solved it as follows,

in CSS

Now, it loads in 100% zoom by default. Tested it by giving 290% zoom and it loaded by that zoom percentage on default, it's upto the user if he wants to change zoom.

Though this is not the best way to do it, there is another effective solution

Check the page code of stack over flow, even they have buttons and they use un ordered lists to solve this problem.

Writing String to Stream and reading it back does not work

After you write to the MemoryStream and before you read it back, you need to Seek back to the beginning of the MemoryStream so you're not reading from the end.

After seeing your update, I think there's a more reliable way to build the stream:

As you can see, this code uses a StreamWriter to write the entire string (with proper encoding) out to the MemoryStream. This takes the hassle out of ensuring the entire byte array for the string is written.

Update: I stepped into issue with empty stream several time. It's enough to call Flush right after you've finished writing.

I may be late but for all the Future geeks. Firstly i suppose you want to call base_url in your .js file. so lets consider you are calling it on below sample .js file

In the above there is no base_url assigned.Therefore the code wont be working properly. But it is for sure that you'll be calling the .js in between <head></head> or <body></body>of View file by using <script> </script> tag. So to call base_url in.js file, we have to write the below code where you plan to call the .js file. And it is recommended that you create common header file and place the below code and all the calling style sheets (.css) and javascript (.js) file there. just like below example.

When performing certain types of cross-domain AJAX requests, modern browsers that support CORS will insert an extra "preflight" request to determine whether they have permission to perform the action. From example query:

MongoDB or CouchDB - fit for production?

We use couchdb in production and have since just before the project went under the Apache umbrella.

We use it to store everything that we might otherwise use a dbms, plus all sorts of unstructured data. Personally, I really like how you can just throw all sorts of data into it and use the views to cull what you don't need depending on the situation.

The hardest part was moving away from the dbms mindset. We wrote our own migration utils when the storage format changed just to be safe, so that wasn't really a problem.

We haven't had any negative experiences yet, but then again we haven't had the setup under any kind of huge load. I think things would work pretty well since we have two slave type servers that replicate from a single master server that gets all of the writes. I'm pretty sure that we don't have to do it that way for replication to work correctly, but it's how we set it up in the beginning and it stuck.

Twitter Bootstrap vs jQuery UI?

You can use both with relatively few issues. Twitter Bootstrap uses jQuery 1.7.1 (as of this writing), and I can't think of any reasons why you cannot integrate additional Jquery UI components into your HTML templates.

I've been using a combination of HTML5 Boilerplate & Twitter Bootstrap built at Initializr.com. This combines two awesome starter templates into one great starter project. This will give you all the js and css you need to get started.

And don't be scared off by HTML5 and CSS3. Initializr and HTML5 Boilerplate include polyfills and IE specific code that will allow all features to work in IE 6, 7 8, and 9.

The use of LESS in Twitter Bootstrap is also optional. They use LESS to compile all the CSS that is used by Bootstrap, but if you just want to override or add your own styles, they provide an empty css file for that purpose.

.htaccess, order allow, deny, deny from all: confused?

This is a quite confusing way of using Apache configuration directives.

Technically, the first bit is equivalent to

Allow From All

This is because Order Deny,Allow makes the Deny directive evaluated before the Allow Directives. In this case, Deny and Allow conflict with each other, but Allow, being the last evaluated will match any user, and access will be granted.

Now, just to make things clear, this kind of configuration is BAD and should be avoided at all cost, because it borders undefined behaviour.

The Limit sections define which HTTP methods have access to the directory containing the .htaccess file.

Here, GET and POST methods are allowed access, and PUT and DELETE methods are denied access. Here's a link explaining what the various HTTP methods are: http://www.w3.org/Protocols/rfc2616/rfc2616-sec9.html

However, it's more than often useless to use these limitations as long as you don't have custom CGI scripts or Apache modules that directly handle the non-standard methods (PUT and DELETE), since by default, Apache does not handle them at all.

It must also be noted that a few other methods exist that can also be handled by Limit, namely CONNECT, OPTIONS, PATCH, PROPFIND, PROPPATCH, MKCOL, COPY, MOVE, LOCK, and UNLOCK.

The last bit is also most certainly useless, since any correctly configured Apache installation contains the following piece of configuration (for Apache 2.2 and earlier):

Unfortunately, no. Not with HTML and CSS. You need an a element to make a link, and you can't wrap an entire table row in one.

The closest you can get is linking every table cell. Personally I'd just link one cell and use JavaScript to make the rest clickable. It's good to have at least one cell that really looks like a link, underlined and all, for clarity anyways.

Here's a simple jQuery snippet to make all table rows with links clickable (it looks for the first link and "clicks" it)

How to request a random row in SQL?

Most of the solutions here aim to avoid sorting, but they still need to make a sequential scan over a table.

There is also a way to avoid the sequential scan by switching to index scan. If you know the index value of your random row you can get the result almost instantially. The problem is - how to guess an index value.

The following solution works on PostgreSQL 8.4:

I above solution you guess 10 various random index values from range 0 .. [last value of id].

There is also one problem - if you have sparse ids you might miss. The solution is to have a backup plan :) In this case an pure old order by random() query. When combined id looks like this:

I was recently reading more on difference between :joins and :includes in rails. Here is an explaination of what I understood (with examples :))

Consider this scenario:

  • A User has_many comments and a comment belongs_to a User.

  • The User model has the following attributes: Name(string), Age(integer). The Comment model has the following attributes:Content, user_id. For a comment a user_id can be null.

Joins:

:joins performs a inner join between two tables. Thus

I guess you’re using JPA in the context of a Spring application, don't you? Some other people had exactly the same problem and their solution was adding the fully qualified name (e. g. com.example.CustomObject) after the SELECT NEW keywords.

Maybe the internal implementation of the Spring data framework only recognizes classes annotated with @Entity or registered in a specific orm file by their simple name, which causes using this workaround.

assign is good, but I have not found a function for referring back to the variable you've created in an automated script. (as.name seems to work the opposite way). More experienced coders will doubtless have a better solution, but this solution works and is slightly humorous perhaps, in that it gets R to write code for itself to execute.

Say I have just assigned value 5 to x (var.name <- "x"; assign(var.name, 5)) and I want to change the value to 6. If I am writing a script and don't know in advance what the variable name (var.name) will be (which seems to be the point of the assign function), I can't simply put x <- 6 because var.name might have been "y". So I do:

The Count() extension doesn't always iterate. Consider Linq to Sql, where the count goes to the database, but instead of bringing back all the rows, it issues the Sql Count() command and returns that result instead.

Additionally, the compiler (or runtime) is smart enough that it will call the objects Count() method if it has one. So it's not as other responders say, being completely ignorant and always iterating in order to count elements.

SignalR provides ConnectionId for each connection. To find which connection belongs to whom (the user), we need to create a mapping between the connection and the user. This depends on how you identify a user in your application.

In SignalR 2.0, this is done by using the inbuilt IPrincipal.Identity.Name, which is the logged in user identifier as set during the ASP.NET authentication.

Are duplicate keys allowed in the definition of binary search trees?

Many algorithms will specify that duplicates are excluded. For example, the example algorithms in the MIT Algorithms book usually present examples without duplicates. It is fairly trivial to implement duplicates (either as a list at the node, or in one particular direction.)

Most (that I've seen) specify left children as <= and right children as >. Practically speaking, a BST which allows either of the right or left children to be equal to the root node, will require extra computational steps to finish a search where duplicate nodes are allowed.

It is best to utilize a list at the node to store duplicates, as inserting an '=' value to one side of a node requires rewriting the tree on that side to place the node as the child, or the node is placed as a grand-child, at some point below, which eliminates some of the search efficiency.

You have to remember, most of the classroom examples are simplified to portray and deliver the concept. They aren't worth squat in many real-world situations. But the statement, "every element has a key and no two elements have the same key", is not violated by the use of a list at the element node.

So go with what your data structures book said!

Universal Definition of a Binary Search Tree involves storing and search for a key based on traversing a data structure in one of two directions. In the pragmatic sense, that means if the value is <>, you traverse the data structure in one of two 'directions'. So, in that sense, duplicate values don't make any sense at all.

This is different from BSP, or binary search partition, but not all that different. The algorithm to search has one of two directions for 'travel', or it is done (successfully or not.) So I apologize that my original answer didn't address the concept of a 'universal definition', as duplicates are really a distinct topic (something you deal with after a successful search, not as part of the binary search.)

Exception from HRESULT: 0x800A03EC Error

Still seeing this error in 2020. As was stated by stt106 above, there are many, many possible causes. In my case, it was during automated insertion of data into a worksheet, and a date had been incorrectly typed in as year 1019 instead of 2019. Since i was inserting using a data array, it was difficult to find the problem until I switched to row-by-row insertion.

This was my old code, which "hid" the problem data.

Set Locale programmatically

For people still looking for this answer, since configuration.locale was deprecated from API 24, you can now use:

Take in consideration that the minSkdVersion for this method is API 17.

You might be experiencing issues in Android 6 and 7, and this happens due to an issue in the androidx libraries while handling the night mode. For this you will also need to override applyOverrideConfiguration in your base activity and update the configuration's locale in case a fresh new locale one is created.

Any changes of the loction (either window.location or document.location) will cause a request on that new URL, if you’re not just changing the URL fragment. If you change the URL, you change the URL.

Use server-side URL rewrite techniques like Apache’s mod_rewrite if you don’t like the URLs you are currently using.

Difference between iCalendar (.ics) and the vCalendar (.vcs)

Both .ics and .vcs files are in ASCII. If you use "Save As" option to save a calendar entry (Appt, Meeting Request/Response/Postpone/Cancel and etc) in both .ics and .vcs format and use vimdiff, you can easily see the difference.

Both .vcs (vCal) and .ics (iCal) belongs to the same VCALENDAR camp, but .vcs file shows "VERSION:1.0" whereas .ics file uses "VERSION:2.0".

The spec for vCalendar v1.0 can be found at http://www.imc.org/pdi/pdiproddev.html. The spec for iCalendar (vCalendar v2.0) is in RFC5545. In general, the newer is better, and that is true for Outlook 2007 and onward, but not for Outlook 2003.

For Outlook 2003, the behavior is peculiar. It can save the same calendar entry in both .ics and .vcs format, but it only read & display .vcs file correctly. It can read .ics file but it omits some fields and does not display it in calendar mode. My guess is that back then Microsoft wanted to provide .ics to be compatible with Mac's iCal but not quite committed to v2.0 yet.

So I would say for Outlook 2003, .vcs is the native format.

How does cookie based authentication work?

A cookie is basically just an item in a dictionary. Each item has a key and a value. For authentication, the key could be something like 'username' and the value would be the username. Each time you make a request to a website, your browser will include the cookies in the request, and the host server will check the cookies. So authentication can be done automatically like that.

To set a cookie, you just have to add it to the response the server sends back after requests. The browser will then add the cookie upon receiving the response.

There are different options you can configure for the cookie server side, like expiration times or encryption. An encrypted cookie is often referred to as a signed cookie. Basically the server encrypts the key and value in the dictionary item, so only the server can make use of the information. So then cookie would be secure.

A browser will save the cookies set by the server. In the HTTP header of every request the browser makes to that server, it will add the cookies. It will only add cookies for the domains that set them. Example.com can set a cookie and also add options in the HTTP header for the browsers to send the cookie back to subdomains, like sub.example.com. It would be unacceptable for a browser to ever sends cookies to a different domain.

The jquery ajax method returns a XMLHttpRequest object. You can use this object to cancel the request.

The XMLHttpRequest has a abort method, which cancels the request, but if the request has already been sent to the server then the server will process the request even if we abort the request but the client will not wait for/handle the response.

The xhr object also contains a readyState which contains the state of the request(UNSENT-0, OPENED-1, HEADERS_RECEIVED-2, LOADING-3 and DONE-4). we can use this to check whether the previous request was completed.

When running Docker natively on Linux, you can access host services using the IP address of the docker0 interface. From inside the container, this will be your default route.

For example, on my system:

$ ip addr show docker0
7: docker0: <NO-CARRIER,BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP> mtu 1500 qdisc noqueue state DOWN group default 
    link/ether 00:00:00:00:00:00 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
    inet 172.17.0.1/16 brd 172.17.255.255 scope global docker0
       valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever
    inet6 fe80::f4d2:49ff:fedd:28a0/64 scope link 
       valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever

And inside a container:

# ip route show
default via 172.17.0.1 dev eth0 
172.17.0.0/16 dev eth0  src 172.17.0.4 

It's fairly easy to extract this IP address using a simple shell script:

hostip=$(ip route show | awk '/default/ {print $3}')
echo $hostip

You may need to modify the iptables rules on your host to permit connections from Docker containers. Something like this will do the trick:

# iptables -A INPUT -i docker0 -j ACCEPT

This would permit access to any ports on the host from Docker containers. Note that:

  • iptables rules are ordered, and this rule may or may not do the right thing depending on what other rules come before it.

  • you will only be able to access host services that are either (a) listening on INADDR_ANY (aka 0.0.0.0) or that are explicitly listening on the docker0 interface.


If you are using Docker on MacOS or Windows 18.03+, you can connect connect to the magic hostname host.docker.internal.


Lastly, under Linux you can run your container in the host network namespace by setting --net=host; in this case localhost on your host is the same as localhost inside the container, so containerized service will act like non-containerized services and will be accessible without any additional configuration.
