RecyclerView and java.lang.IndexOutOfBoundsException: Inconsistency detected. Invalid view holder adapter positionViewHolder in Samsung devices

My problem was that even though i clear both the array list containing the data model for the recycler view, i did not notify the adapter of that change, so it had stale data from previous model. Which caused the confusion about the view holder position. To Fix this always notify the adapter that the data-set as changed before updating again.

Parsing HTML using Python

I recommend lxml for parsing HTML. See "Parsing HTML" (on the lxml site).

In my experience Beautiful Soup messes up on some complex HTML. I believe that is because Beautiful Soup is not a parser, rather a very good string analyzer.

LocalDate to java.util.Date and vice versa simplest conversion?

html5: display video inside canvas

Here's a solution that uses more modern syntax and is less verbose than the ones already provided:

const canvas = document.querySelector("canvas");
const ctx = canvas.getContext("2d");
const video = document.querySelector("video");

video.addEventListener('play', () => {
  function step() {
    ctx.drawImage(video, 0, 0, canvas.width, canvas.height)
    requestAnimationFrame(step)
  }
  requestAnimationFrame(step);
})

What is the Sign Off feature in Git for?

Sign-off is a line at the end of the commit message which certifies who is the author of the commit. Its main purpose is to improve tracking of who did what, especially with patches.

Example commit:

Add tests for the payment processor.

Signed-off-by: Humpty Dumpty <[email protected]>

It should contain the user real name if used for an open-source project.

If branch maintainer need to slightly modify patches in order to merge them, he could ask the submitter to rediff, but it would be counter-productive. He can adjust the code and put his sign-off at the end so the original author still gets credit for the patch.

Add tests for the payment processor.

How can I hide the Adobe Reader toolbar when displaying a PDF in the .NET WebBrowser control?

It appears the default setting for Adobe Reader X is for the toolbars not to be shown by default unless they are explicitly turned on by the user. And even when I turn them back on during a session, they don't show up automatically next time. As such, I suspect you have a preference set contrary to the default.

The state you desire, with the top and left toolbars not shown, is called "Read Mode". If you right-click on the document itself, and then click "Page Display Preferences" in the context menu that is shown, you'll be presented with the Adobe Reader Preferences dialog. (This is the same dialog you can access by opening the Adobe Reader application, and selecting "Preferences" from the "Edit" menu.) In the list shown in the left-hand column of the Preferences dialog, select "Internet". Finally, on the right, ensure that you have the "Display in Read Mode by default" box checked:

   Adobe Reader Preferences dialog

You can also turn off the toolbars temporarily by clicking the button at the right of the top toolbar that depicts arrows pointing to opposing corners:

   Adobe Reader Read Mode toolbar button

Finally, if you have "Display in Read Mode by default" turned off, but want to instruct the page you're loading not to display the toolbars (i.e., override the user's current preferences), you can append the following to the URL:

#toolbar=0&navpanes=0

So, for example, the following code will disable both the top toolbar (called "toolbar") and the left-hand toolbar (called "navpane"). However, if the user knows the keyboard combination (F8, and perhaps other methods as well), they will still be able to turn them back on.

string url = @"http://www.domain.com/file.pdf#toolbar=0&navpanes=0";
this._WebBrowser.Navigate(url);

You can read more about the parameters that are available for customizing the way PDF files open here on Adobe's developer website.

Servlet Mapping using web.xml

It allows servlets to have multiple servlet mappings:

<servlet>
    <servlet-name>Servlet1</servlet-name>
    <servlet-path>foo.Servlet</servlet-path>
</servlet>
<servlet-mapping>
    <servlet-name>Servlet1</servlet-name>
    <url-pattern>/enroll</url-pattern>
</servlet-mapping>
<servlet-mapping>
    <servlet-name>Servlet1</servlet-name>
    <url-pattern>/pay</url-pattern>
</servlet-mapping>
<servlet-mapping>
    <servlet-name>Servlet1</servlet-name>
    <url-pattern>/bill</url-pattern>
</servlet-mapping>

It allows filters to be mapped on the particular servlet:

<filter-mapping>
    <filter-name>Filter1</filter-name>
    <servlet-name>Servlet1</servlet-name>
</filter-mapping>

Your proposal would support neither of them. Note that the web.xml is read and parsed only once during application's startup, not on every HTTP request as you seem to think.

Since Servlet 3.0, there's the @WebServlet annotation which minimizes this boilerplate:

@WebServlet("/enroll")
public class Servlet1 extends HttpServlet {

Java Error opening registry key

I have Windows 7. I got the same problem after installing: PyCharm. I wasn't satisfied with PyCharm, so I decided to use Eclipse instead. This is when I discovered that things went wrong with my JDK. I used to have Java.9.x. So I decided to uninstall it and get the newer version (at my time it was Java.11.x. The same problem persisted. I followed most of the steps mentioned above in the post like: - Removing all java*.exe files, - removing Java related entries from the registry. - Cleaning-up all unnecessary Java folders. However nothing helped. I still had something in the system referring to a broken Java pathname.

What really brought remedy is the following: - Uninstalled what ever version of JDK I had at the moment. - Re-Installed the last JDK version I had before the problem took place - Properly uninstall that version. - Install whatever latest version of SDK. ..

That's it .. at this point everything returned to normal ... Except that Java.11.xx did not fix the system path automatically, I had to do it manually.

Why do I always get the same sequence of random numbers with rand()?

Seeding the rand()

void srand (unsigned int seed)

This function establishes seed as the seed for a new series of pseudo-random numbers. If you call rand before a seed has been established with srand, it uses the value 1 as a default seed.

To produce a different pseudo-random series each time your program is run, do srand (time (0))

Depends if you consider the command palette a short-cut. I do.

  1. Press 'control-shift-p', that opens the command palette.
  2. Then type 'clear cell output'. That will let you select the command to clear the output.

Real mouse position in canvas

You need to get the mouse position relative to the canvas

To do that you need to know the X/Y position of the canvas on the page.

This is called the canvas’s “offset”, and here’s how to get the offset. (I’m using jQuery in order to simplify cross-browser compatibility, but if you want to use raw javascript a quick Google will get that too).

    var canvasOffset=$("#canvas").offset();
    var offsetX=canvasOffset.left;
    var offsetY=canvasOffset.top;

Then in your mouse handler, you can get the mouse X/Y like this:

  function handleMouseDown(e){
      mouseX=parseInt(e.clientX-offsetX);
      mouseY=parseInt(e.clientY-offsetY);
}

Here is an illustrating code and fiddle that shows how to successfully track mouse events on the canvas:

Java LinkedHashMap get first or last entry

Though linkedHashMap doesn't provide any method to get first, last or any specific object.

But its pretty trivial to get :

Map<Integer,String> orderMap = new LinkedHashMap<Integer,String>();
Set<Integer> al =   orderMap.keySet();

now using iterator on al object ; you can get any object.

How to implement a confirmation (yes/no) DialogPreference?

Use Intent Preference if you are using preference xml screen or you if you are using you custom screen then the code would be like below

intentClearCookies = getPreferenceManager().createPreferenceScreen(this);
    Intent clearcookies = new Intent(PopupPostPref.this, ClearCookies.class);

    intentClearCookies.setIntent(clearcookies);
    intentClearCookies.setTitle(R.string.ClearCookies);
    intentClearCookies.setEnabled(true);
    launchPrefCat.addPreference(intentClearCookies);

And then Create Activity Class somewhat like below, As different people as different approach you can use any approach you like this is just an example.

public class ClearCookies extends Activity {

@Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
    // TODO Auto-generated method stub
    super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
    requestWindowFeature(Window.FEATURE_NO_TITLE);

    showDialog();
}

/**
 * @throws NotFoundException
 */
private void showDialog() throws NotFoundException {
    new AlertDialog.Builder(this)
            .setTitle(getResources().getString(R.string.ClearCookies))
            .setMessage(
                    getResources().getString(R.string.ClearCookieQuestion))
            .setIcon(
                    getResources().getDrawable(
                            android.R.drawable.ic_dialog_alert))
            .setPositiveButton(
                    getResources().getString(R.string.PostiveYesButton),
                    new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() {

                        @Override
                        public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog,
                                int which) {
                            //Do Something Here

                        }
                    })
            .setNegativeButton(
                    getResources().getString(R.string.NegativeNoButton),
                    new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() {

                        @Override
                        public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog,
                                int which) {
                            //Do Something Here
                        }
                    }).show();
}}

As told before there are number of ways doing this. this is one of the way you can do your task, please accept the answer if you feel that you have got it what you wanted.

Multiple HttpPost method in Web API controller

It is Possible to add Multiple Get and Post methods in the same Web API Controller. Here default Route is Causing the Issue. Web API checks for Matching Route from Top to Bottom and Hence Your Default Route Matches for all Requests. As per default route only one Get and Post Method is possible in one controller. Either place the following code on top or Comment Out/Delete Default Route

    config.Routes.MapHttpRoute("API Default",
                               "api/{controller}/{action}/{id}",
                               new { id = RouteParameter.Optional });

Deep copy of a dict in python

A simpler (in my view) solution is to create a new dictionary and update it with the contents of the old one:

my_dict={'a':1}

my_copy = {}

my_copy.update( my_dict )

my_dict['a']=2

my_dict['a']
Out[34]: 2

my_copy['a']
Out[35]: 1

The problem with this approach is it may not be 'deep enough'. i.e. is not recursively deep. good enough for simple objects but not for nested dictionaries. Here is an example where it may not be deep enough:

my_dict1={'b':2}

my_dict2={'c':3}

my_dict3={ 'b': my_dict1, 'c':my_dict2 }

my_copy = {}

my_copy.update( my_dict3 )

my_dict1['b']='z'

my_copy
Out[42]: {'b': {'b': 'z'}, 'c': {'c': 3}}

By using Deepcopy() I can eliminate the semi-shallow behavior, but I think one must decide which approach is right for your application. In most cases you may not care, but should be aware of the possible pitfalls... final example:

import copy

my_copy2 = copy.deepcopy( my_dict3 )

my_dict1['b']='99'

my_copy2
Out[46]: {'b': {'b': 'z'}, 'c': {'c': 3}}

How to refer environment variable in POM.xml?

Also, make sure that your environment variable is composed only by UPPER CASE LETTERS.... Can I use a :before or :after pseudo-element on an input field?

Pseudo elements like :after, :before are only for container elements. Elements starting and closing in a single place like <input/>, <img> etc are not container elements and hence pseudo elements are not supported. Once you apply a pseudo element to container element like <div> and if you inspect the code(see the image) you can understand what I mean. Actually the pseudo element is created inside the container element. This is not possible in case of <input> or <img>

Combine two OR-queries with AND in Mongoose

It's probably easiest to create your query object directly as:

  Test.find({
      $and: [
          { $or: [{a: 1}, {b: 1}] },
          { $or: [{c: 1}, {d: 1}] }
      ]
  }, function (err, results) {
      ...
  }

But you can also use the Query#and helper that's available in recent 3.x Mongoose releases:

  Test.find()
      .and([
          { $or: [{a: 1}, {b: 1}] },
          { $or: [{c: 1}, {d: 1}] }
      ])
      .exec(function (err, results) {
          ...
      });

C# "internal" access modifier when doing unit testing

You can use private as well and you can call private methods with reflection. If you're using Visual Studio Team Suite it has some nice functionality that will generate a proxy to call your private methods for you. Here's a code project article that demonstrates how you can do the work yourself to unit test private and protected methods:

http://www.codeproject.com/KB/cs/testnonpublicmembers.aspx

In terms of which access modifier you should use, my general rule of thumb is start with private and escalate as needed. That way you will expose as little of the internal details of your class as are truly needed and it helps keep the implementation details hidden, as they should be.

jquery loop on Json data using $.each

Have you converted your data from string to JavaScript object?

You can do it with data = eval('(' + string_data + ')'); or, which is safer, data = JSON.parse(string_data); but later will only works in FF 3.5 or if you include json2.js

jQuery since 1.4.1 also have function for that, $.parseJSON().

But actually, $.getJSON() should give you already parsed json object, so you should just check everything thoroughly, there is little mistake buried somewhere, like you might have forgotten to quote something in json, or one of the brackets is missing.

How to Call a Function inside a Render in React/Jsx

The fix was at the accepted answer. Yet if someone wants to know why it worked and why the implementation in the SO question didn't work,

First, functions are first class objects in JavaScript. That means they are treated like any other variable. Function can be passed as an argument to other functions, can be returned by another function and can be assigned as a value to a variable. Read more here.

So we use that variable to invoke the function by adding parentheses () at the end.

One thing, If you have a function that returns a funtion and you just need to call that returned function, you can just have double paranthesis when you call the outer function ()().

What exactly does Double mean in java?

In a comment on @paxdiablo's answer, you asked:

"So basically, is it better to use Double than Float?"

That is a complicated question. I will deal with it in two parts

Deciding between double versus float

On the one hand, a double occupies 8 bytes versus 4 bytes for a float. If you have many of them, this may be significant, though it may also have no impact. (Consider the case where the values are in fields or local variables on a 64bit machine, and the JVM aligns them on 64 bit boundaries.) Additionally, floating point arithmetic with double values is typically slower than with float values ... though once again this is hardware dependent.

On the other hand, a double can represent larger (and smaller) numbers than a float and can represent them with more than twice the precision. For the details, refer to Wikipedia.

The tricky question is knowing whether you actually need the extra range and precision of a double. In some cases it is obvious that you need it. In others it is not so obvious. For instance if you are doing calculations such as inverting a matrix or calculating a standard deviation, the extra precision may be critical. On the other hand, in some cases not even double is going to give you enough precision. (And beware of the trap of expecting float and double to give you an exact representation. They won't and they can't!)

There is a branch of mathematics called Numerical Analysis that deals with the effects of rounding error, etc in practical numerical calculations. It used to be a standard part of computer science courses ... back in the 1970's.

Deciding between Double versus Float

For the Double versus Float case, the issues of precision and range are the same as for double versus float, but the relative performance measures will be slightly different.

  • A Double (on a 32 bit machine) typically takes 16 bytes + 4 bytes for the reference, compared with 12 + 4 bytes for a Float. Compare this to 8 bytes versus 4 bytes for the double versus float case. So the ratio is 5 to 4 versus 2 to 1.

  • Arithmetic involving Double and Float typically involves dereferencing the pointer and creating a new object to hold the result (depending on the circumstances). These extra overheads also affect the ratios in favor of the Double case.

Correctness

Having said all that, the most important thing is correctness, and this typically means getting the most accurate answer. And even if accuracy is not critical, it is usually not wrong to be "too accurate". So, the simple "rule of thumb" is to use double in preference to float, UNLESS there is an overriding performance requirement, AND you have solid evidence that using float will make a difference with respect to that requirement.

sorting a vector of structs

Yes: you can sort using a custom comparison function:

std::sort(info.begin(), info.end(), my_custom_comparison);

my_custom_comparison needs to be a function or a class with an operator() overload (a functor) that takes two data objects and returns a bool indicating whether the first is ordered prior to the second (i.e., first < second). Alternatively, you can overload operator< for your class type data; operator< is the default ordering used by std::sort.

Either way, the comparison function must yield a strict weak ordering of the elements.

Angular - Can't make ng-repeat orderBy work

You're going to have to reformat your releases object to be an array of objects. Then you'll be able to sort them the way you're attempting.

The below code helps, if you use Gradle. Allows you to easily remove unneeded Google services (presuming you're using them) to get back below the 65k threshold. All credit to this post: https://gist.github.com/dmarcato/d7c91b94214acd936e42

Edit 2014-10-22: There's been a lot of interesting discussion on the gist referenced above. TLDR? look at this one: https://gist.github.com/Takhion/10a37046b9e6d259bb31

Paste this code at the bottom of your build.gradle file and adjust the list of google services you do not need:

def toCamelCase(String string) {
    String result = ""
    string.findAll("[^\\W]+") { String word ->
        result += word.capitalize()
    }
    return result
}

afterEvaluate { project ->
    Configuration runtimeConfiguration = project.configurations.getByName('compile')
    ResolutionResult resolution = runtimeConfiguration.incoming.resolutionResult
    // Forces resolve of configuration
    ModuleVersionIdentifier module = resolution.getAllComponents().find { it.moduleVersion.name.equals("play-services") }.moduleVersion

    String prepareTaskName = "prepare${toCamelCase("${module.group} ${module.name} ${module.version}")}Library"
    File playServiceRootFolder = project.tasks.find { it.name.equals(prepareTaskName) }.explodedDir

    Task stripPlayServices = project.tasks.create(name: 'stripPlayServices', group: "Strip") {
        inputs.files new File(playServiceRootFolder, "classes.jar")
        outputs.dir playServiceRootFolder
        description 'Strip useless packages from Google Play Services library to avoid reaching dex limit'

        doLast {
            copy {
                from(file(new File(playServiceRootFolder, "classes.jar")))
                into(file(playServiceRootFolder))
                rename { fileName ->
                    fileName = "classes_orig.jar"
                }
            }
            tasks.create(name: "stripPlayServices" + module.version, type: Jar) {
                destinationDir = playServiceRootFolder
                archiveName = "classes.jar"
                from(zipTree(new File(playServiceRootFolder, "classes_orig.jar"))) {
                    exclude "com/google/ads/**"
                    exclude "com/google/android/gms/analytics/**"
                    exclude "com/google/android/gms/games/**"

                    exclude "com/google/android/gms/ads/**"
                }
            }.execute()
            delete file(new File(playServiceRootFolder, "classes_orig.jar"))
        }
    }

    project.tasks.findAll { it.name.startsWith('prepare') && it.name.endsWith('Dependencies') }.each { Task task ->
        task.dependsOn stripPlayServices

How do I get a computer's name and IP address using VB.NET?

Shows the Computer Name, Use a Button to call it

Dim strHostName As String

    strHostName = System.Net.Dns.GetHostName().

    MsgBox(strHostName)

Shows the User Name, Use a Button to call it

If TypeOf My.User.CurrentPrincipal Is Security.Principal.WindowsPrincipal Then

        Dim parts() As String = Split(My.User.Name, "\")

        Dim username As String = parts(1)

        MsgBox(username)

   End If

For IP Address its little complicated, But I try to explain as much as I can. First write the next code, before Form1_Load but after import section

Public Class Form1

Dim mem As String

Private Sub GetIPAddress()

    Dim strHostName As String
    Dim strIPAddress As String
    strHostName = System.Net.Dns.GetHostName()
    strIPAddress = System.Net.Dns.GetHostByName(strHostName).AddressList(0).ToString()

    mem = strIPAddress
    MessageBox.Show("IP Address: " & strIPAddress)

End Sub

Then in Form1_Load Section just call it

GetIPAddress()

Result: On form load it will show a msgbox along with the IP address, for put into Label1.text or some where else play with the code.

How to remove first and last character of a string?

This will gives you basic idea

    str=S.nextLine();
    int length=str.length();
    for(int i=0;i<length;i++)

Scroll to bottom of div with Vue.js

Here is a simple example using #ref to scroll to the bottom of a div.

_x000D_
_x000D_
/*_x000D_
Defined somewhere:_x000D_
  var vueContent = new Vue({_x000D_
      el: '#vue-content',_x000D_
      ..._x000D_
 */_x000D_
_x000D_
var messageDisplay = vueContent.$refs.messageDisplay;_x000D_
messageDisplay.scrollTop = messageDisplay.scrollHeight;
_x000D_
<div id='vue-content'>_x000D_
  <div ref='messageDisplay' id='messages'>_x000D_
    <div v-for="message in messages">_x000D_
      {{ message }}_x000D_
    </div>_x000D_
  </div>_x000D_
</div>
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

Notice that by putting ref='messageDisplay' in the HTML, you have access to the element through vueContent.$refs.messageDisplay

MongoDB "root" user

How can I debug what is causing a connection refused or a connection time out?

Use a packet analyzer to intercept the packets to/from somewhere.com. Studying those packets should tell you what is going on.

Time-outs or connections refused could mean that the remote host is too busy.

What is a monad?

According to What we talk about when we talk about monads the question "What is a monad" is wrong:

The short answer to the question "What is a monad?" is that it is a monoid in the category of endofunctors or that it is a generic data type equipped with two operations that satisfy certain laws. This is correct, but it does not reveal an important bigger picture. This is because the question is wrong. In this paper, we aim to answer the right question, which is "What do authors really say when they talk about monads?"

While that paper does not directly answer what a monad is it helps understanding what people with different backgrounds mean when they talk about monads and why.

Couldn't connect to server 127.0.0.1:27017

This error could be caused by the MongoDB's bind IP setting. You can check MongoDB's config file by

$ sudo vi /etc/mongodb.conf

In my case, the bind IP is set to server's intranet address, just as following:

bind_ip = 10.10.1.14
#port = 27017

So I have give mongo an IP parameter to connect to shell by type:

$ mongo 10.10.1.14

Don't forget to restart mongodb service if you changed the config.

Detect if device is iOS

Wherever possible when adding Modernizr tests you should add a test for a feature, rather than a device or operating system. There's nothing wrong with adding ten tests all testing for iPhone if that's what it takes. Some things just can't be feature detected.

    Modernizr.addTest('inpagevideo', function ()
    {
        return navigator.userAgent.match(/(iPhone|iPod)/g) ? false : true;
    });

For instance on the iPhone (not the iPad) video cannot be played inline on a webpage, it opens up full screen. So I created a test 'no-inpage-video'

You can then use this in css (Modernizr adds a class .no-inpagevideo to the <html> tag if the test fails)

.no-inpagevideo video.product-video
{
     display: none;
}

This will hide the video on iPhone (what I'm actually doing in this case is showing an alternative image with an onclick to play the video - I just don't want the default video player and play button to show).

Android Studio: Add jar as library?

  1. Added the libs folder at the level of app.
  2. Added all the jars in this project.
  3. Next, selected all the jars, in the libs folder,
  4. right click on the selected items, and say add library
  5. then you will find the jars expansion option, within the project explorer itself.

I observed CTRL + ALT + SHIFT + S --> project structure --> app-module -->Dependencies" already had an entry as (dir: 'libs', include: '*.jar') under compile-option, initially. And after adding the jar's as per the steps stated above, the build.gradle got the entries for the new added jar's, itself.

CSS: How to have position:absolute div inside a position:relative div not be cropped by an overflow:hidden on a container

A trick that works is to position box #2 with position: absolute instead of position: relative. We usually put a position: relative on an outer box (here box #2) when we want an inner box (here box #3) with position: absolute to be positioned relative to the outer box. But remember: for box #3 to be positioned relative to box #2, box #2 just need to be positioned. With this change, we get:

And here is the full code with this change:

            #box2 { position: absolute }
            #box3 { position: absolute; top: 10px }

            /* Styling */
            #box1 { background: #efe; padding: 5px; width: 125px }
            #box2 { background: #fee; padding: 2px; width: 100px; height: 100px }

Remove duplicate elements from array in Ruby

array = array.uniq

uniq removes all duplicate elements and retains all unique elements in the array.

This is one of many beauties of the Ruby language.

How to run the Python program forever?

Yes, you can use a while True: loop that never breaks to run Python code continually.

However, you will need to put the code you want to run continually inside the loop:

#!/usr/bin/python

while True:
    # some python code that I want
    # to keep on running

Also, time.sleep is used to suspend the operation of a script for a period of time. So, since you want yours to run continually, I don't see why you would use it.

HTML input arrays

As far as I know, there isn't anything on the HTML specs because browsers aren't supposed to do anything different for these fields. They just send them as they normally do and PHP is the one that does the parsing into an array, as do other languages.

Git: How to commit a manually deleted file?

Show/hide widgets in Flutter programmatically

Invisible: The widget takes physical space on the screen but not visible to user.

Gone: The widget doesn't take any physical space and is completely gone.

Invisible example

Visibility(
  child: Text("Invisible"),
  maintainSize: true,
  maintainAnimation: true,
  maintainState: true,
  visible: false,
),

Gone example

Visibility(
  child: Text("Gone"),
  visible: false,
),

Alternatively, you can use if condition for both invisible and gone.

Column(
  children: <Widget>[
    if (show) Text("This can be visible/not depending on condition"),
    Text("This is always visible"),
  ],
)

In AngularJS, what's the difference between ng-pristine and ng-dirty?

Both directives obviously serve the same purpose, and though it seems that the decision of the angular team to include both interfere with the DRY principle and adds to the payload of the page, it still is rather practical to have them both around. It is easier to style your input elements as you have both .ng-pristine and .ng-dirty available for styling in your css files. I guess this was the primary reason for adding both directives.

iOS app 'The application could not be verified' only on one device

I faced this issue a lot. I am not sure if this is the issue, but I think, when xCode saw that there is an app with the same bundle identifier as of the app, I am trying to install, it didn't allow me. So, I had to delete the older one and attempted to install and it worked. However sometimes for testing purpose, I needed multiple version of the same app and in that case, I would change the bundle identifier and try to install. It only works if, I am using an wildcard provisioning profile.

Filter df when values matches part of a string in pyspark

When filtering a DataFrame with string values, I find that the pyspark.sql.functions lower and upper come in handy, if your data could have column entries like "foo" and "Foo":

import pyspark.sql.functions as sql_fun
result = source_df.filter(sql_fun.lower(source_df.col_name).contains("foo"))

How do I disable right click on my web page?

I know I am late, but I want to create some assumptions and explainations for the answer I am going to provide.

Can I disable right-click

Can I disable right click on my web page without using Javascript?

Yes, by using JavaScript you can disable any event that happens and you can do that mostly only by javaScript. How, all you need is:

  1. A working hardware

  2. A website or somewhere from which you can learn about the keycodes. Because you're gonna need them.

Now lets say you wanna block the enter key press here is the code:

function prevententer () {
 if(event.keyCode == 13) {
  return false;
 }
}

For the right click use this:

event.button == 2

in the place of event.keyCode. And you'll block it.

I want to ask this because most browsers allow users to disable it by Javascript.

You're right, browsers allow you to use JavaScript and javascript does the whole job for you. You donot need to setup anything, just need the script attribute in the head.

Why you should not disable it?

The main and the fast answer to that would be, users won't like it. Everyone needs freedom, no-one I mean no-one wants to be blocked or disabled, a few minutes ago I was at a site, which had blocked me from right clicking and I felt why? Do you need to secure your source code? Then here ctrl+shift+J I have opened the Console and now I can go to HTML-code tab. Go ahead and stop me. This won't add any of the security layer to your app.

There are alot of userful menus in the Right Click, like Copy, Paste, Search Google for 'text' (In Chrome) and many more. So user would like to get ease of access instead of remembering alot of keyboard shortcuts. Anyone can still copy the context, save the image or do whatever he wants.

Browsers use Mouse Navigation: Some browsers such as Opera uses mouse navigation, so if you disable it, user would definitely hate your User Interface and the scripts.

So that was the basic, I was going to write some more about saving the source code hehehe but, let it be the answer to your question.

Reference to the keycodes:

Key and mouse button code:

http://www.w3schools.com/jsref/event_button.asp

https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/event.button (would be appreciated by the users too).

Gradle's dependency cache may be corrupt (this sometimes occurs after a network connection timeout.)

I resolved this issue by downloading current version of graddle from link given download latest version of graddle possibly graddle 3.3

Then in next step i accessed .graddle/wrapper/dists dirctory from home directory on my Mac after showing up hidden system files and deleted previuos version folder residing there.

Now i put that downloaded latest version folder after uncompressing there. Now restarted Android studio and problem was resolved.

How can I build XML in C#?

XmlWriter is the fastest way to write good XML. XDocument, XMLDocument and some others works good aswell, but are not optimized for writing XML. If you want to write the XML as fast as possible, you should definitely use XmlWriter.

How to read numbers from file in Python?

To make the answer simple here is a program that reads integers from the file and sorting them

f = open("input.txt", 'r')

nums = f.readlines()
nums = [int(i) for i in nums]

After reading each line of the file converting each string to a digit

nums.sort()

Sorting the numbers

f.close()

f = open("input.txt", 'w')
for num in nums:
    f.write("%d\n" %num)

f.close()

Writing them back As easy as that, Hope this helps

What is the difference between require and require-dev sections in composer.json?

Note the require-dev (root-only) !

which means that the require-dev section is only valid when your package is the root of the entire project. I.e. if you run composer update from your package folder.

If you develop a plugin for some main project, that has it's own composer.json, then your require-dev section will be completely ignored! If you need your developement dependencies, you have to move your require-dev to composer.json in main project.

How to get PID of process I've just started within java program?

This is not a generic answer.

However: Some programs, especially services and long-running programs, create (or offer to create, optionally) a "pid file".

For instance, LibreOffice offers --pidfile={file}, see the docs.

I was looking for quite some time for a Java/Linux solution but the PID was (in my case) lying at hand.

C++ preprocessor __VA_ARGS__ number of arguments

If you are using C++11, and you need the value as a C++ compile-time constant, a very elegant solution is this:

#include <tuple>

#define MACRO(...) \
    std::cout << "num args: " \
    << std::tuple_size<decltype(std::make_tuple(__VA_ARGS__))>::value \
    << std::endl;

Please note: the counting happens entirely at compile time, and the value can be used whenever compile-time integer is required, for instance as a template parameter to std::array.

Unable to resolve "unable to get local issuer certificate" using git on Windows with self-signed certificate

I had this issue as well. In my case, I was trying to get a post-receive Git hook to update a working copy on a server with each push. Tried to follow the instructions in the blog you linked to. Didn't work for me as well and overriding the settings on a per-user basis didn't seem to work either.

What I ended up having to do was disable SSL verification (as the article mentions) for Git as a whole. Not the perfect solution, but it'll work until I can figure out a better one.

I edited the Git config text file (with my favorite line-ending neutral app like Notepad++) located at:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Git\etc\gitconfig

In the [http] block, I added an option to disable sslVerify. It looked like this when I was done:

[http]
    sslVerify = false
    sslCAinfo = /bin/curl-ca-bundle.crt

That did the trick.

NOTE:

  • This disables SSL verification and is not recommended as a long term solution.

  • You can disable this per-repository which still isn't great, but localizes the setting.

  • With the advent of LetsEncrypt.org, it is now fairly simple, automated and free to set up SSL as an alternative to self-signed certs and negates the need to turn off sslVerify.

How might I convert a double to the nearest integer value?

I know this question is old, but I came across it in my search for the answer to my similar question. I thought I would share the very useful tip that I have been given.

When converting to int, simply add .5 to your value before downcasting. As downcasting to int always drops to the lower number (e.g. (int)1.7 == 1), if your number is .5 or higher, adding .5 will bring it up into the next number and your downcast to int should return the correct value. (e.g. (int)(1.8 + .5) == 2)

Assign a synthesizable initial value to a reg in Verilog

The always @* would never trigger as no Right hand arguments change. Why not use a wire with assign?

module top (
    input wire clk,
    output wire [7:0] led
);

wire [7:0] data_reg ;
assign data_reg   = 8'b10101011;
assign led        = data_reg;

endmodule

If you actually want a flop where you can change the value, the default would be in the reset clause.

module top
(
    input        clk,
    input        rst_n,
    input  [7:0] data,
    output [7:0] led
 );

reg [7:0] data_reg ;
always @(posedge clk or negedge rst_n) begin
  if (!rst_n)
    data_reg <= 8'b10101011;
  else
    data_reg <= data ;
end

assign led = data_reg;

endmodule

Hope this helps

CSS: Force float to do a whole new line

You can wrap them in a div and give the div a set width (the width of the widest image + margin maybe?) and then float the divs. Then, set the images to the center of their containing divs. Your margins between images won't be consistent for the differently sized images but it'll lay out much more nicely on the page.

How to retrieve an element from a set without removing it?

What I usually do for small collections is to create kind of parser/converter method like this

def convertSetToList(setName):
return list(setName)

Then I can use the new list and access by index number

userFields = convertSetToList(user)
name = request.json[userFields[0]]

As a list you will have all the other methods that you may need to work with

How to open a page in a new window or tab from code-behind

Target= "_blank"

This does it in html, give it a try in C#

What does 'public static void' mean in Java?

Considering the typical top-level class. Only public and no modifier access modifiers may be used at the top level so you'll either see public or you won't see any access modifier at all.

`static`` is used because you may not have a need to create an actual object at the top level (but sometimes you will want to so you may not always see/use static. There are other reasons why you wouldn't include static too but this is the typical one at the top level.)

void is used because usually you're not going to be returning a value from the top level (class). (sometimes you'll want to return a value other than NULL so void may not always be used either especially in the case when you have declared, initialized an object at the top level that you are assigning some value to).

Disclaimer: I'm a newbie myself so if this answer is wrong in any way please don't hang me. By day I'm a tech recruiter not a developer; coding is my hobby. Also, I'm always open to constructive criticism and love to learn so please feel free to point out any errors.

How to match letters only using java regex, matches method?

matches method performs matching of full line, i.e. it is equivalent to find() with '^abc$'. So, just use Pattern.compile("[a-zA-Z]").matcher(str).find() instead. Then fix your regex. As @user unknown mentioned your regex actually matches only one character. You probably should say [a-zA-Z]+

jquery get all input from specific form

The below code helps to get the details of elements from the specific form with the form id,

$('#formId input, #formId select').each(
    function(index){
        var input = $(this);
        alert('Type: ' + input.attr('type') + 'Name: ' + input.attr('name') + 'Value: ' + input.val());
    }
);

The below code helps to get the details of elements from all the forms which are place in the loading page,

$('form input, form select').each(
    function(index){
        var input = $(this);
        alert('Type: ' + input.attr('type') + 'Name: ' + input.attr('name') + 'Value: ' + input.val());
    }
);

The below code helps to get the details of elements which are place in the loading page even when the element is not place inside the tag,

$('input, select').each(
    function(index){
        var input = $(this);
        alert('Type: ' + input.attr('type') + 'Name: ' + input.attr('name') + 'Value: ' + input.val());
    }
);

NOTE: We add the more element tag name what we need in the object list like as below,

Example: to get name of attribute "textarea",

$('input, select, textarea').each(
    function(index){
        var input = $(this);
        alert('Type: ' + input.attr('type') + 'Name: ' + input.attr('name') + 'Value: ' + input.val());
    }
);

C# Passing Function as Argument

There are a couple generic types in .Net (v2 and later) that make passing functions around as delegates very easy.

For functions with return types, there is Func<> and for functions without return types there is Action<>.

Both Func and Action can be declared to take from 0 to 4 parameters. For example, Func < double, int > takes one double as a parameter and returns an int. Action < double, double, double > takes three doubles as parameters and returns nothing (void).

So you can declare your Diff function to take a Func:

public double Diff(double x, Func<double, double> f) {
    double h = 0.0000001;

    return (f(x + h) - f(x)) / h;
}

And then you call it as so, simply giving it the name of the function that fits the signature of your Func or Action:

double result = Diff(myValue, Function);

You can even write the function in-line with lambda syntax:

double result = Diff(myValue, d => Math.Sqrt(d * 3.14));

CSS: Hover one element, effect for multiple elements?

I think the best option for you is to enclose both divs by another div. Then you can make it by CSS in the following way:

<html>
<head>
<style>
  div.both:hover .image { border: 1px solid blue }
  div.both:hover .layer { border: 1px solid blue }
</style>
</head>

<body>
<div class="section">

<div class="both">
  <div class="image"><img src="myImage.jpg" /></div>
  <div class="layer">Lorem Ipsum</div>
</div>

</div>
</body>
</html>

implement time delay in c

If you are certain you want to wait and never get interrupted then use sleep in POSIX or Sleep in Windows. In POSIX sleep takes time in seconds so if you want the time to be shorter there are varieties like usleep() which uses microseconds. Sleep in Windows takes milliseconds, it is rare you need finer granularity than that.

It may be that you wish to wait a period of time but want to allow interrupts, maybe in the case of an emergency. sleep can be interrupted by signals but there is a better way of doing it in this case.

Therefore I actually found in practice what you do is wait for an event or a condition variable with a timeout.

In Windows your call is WaitForSingleObject. In POSIX it is pthread_cond_timedwait.

In Windows you can also use WaitForSingleObjectEx and then you can actually "interrupt" your thread with any queued task by calling QueueUserAPC. WaitForSingleObject(Ex) will return a code determining why it exited, so you will know when it returns a "TIMEDOUT" status that it did indeed timeout. You set the Event it is waiting for when you want it to terminate.

With pthread_cond_timedwait you can signal broadcast the condition variable. (If several threads are waiting on the same one, you will need to broadcast to wake them all up). Each time it loops it should check the condition. Your thread can get the current time and see if it has passed or it can look to see if some condition has been met to determine what to do. If you have some kind of queue you can check it. (Your thread will automatically have a mutex locked that it used to wait on the condition variable, so when it checks the condition it has sole access to it).

decimal vs double! - Which one should I use and when?

My question is when should a use a double and when should I use a decimal type?

decimal for when you work with values in the range of 10^(+/-28) and where you have expectations about the behaviour based on base 10 representations - basically money.

double for when you need relative accuracy (i.e. losing precision in the trailing digits on large values is not a problem) across wildly different magnitudes - double covers more than 10^(+/-300). Scientific calculations are the best example here.

which type is suitable for money computations?

decimal, decimal, decimal

Accept no substitutes.

The most important factor is that double, being implemented as a binary fraction, cannot accurately represent many decimal fractions (like 0.1) at all and its overall number of digits is smaller since it is 64-bit wide vs. 128-bit for decimal. Finally, financial applications often have to follow specific rounding modes (sometimes mandated by law). decimal supports these; double does not.

How to remove duplicates from Python list and keep order?

If you want to keep order of the original list, just use OrderedDict with None as values.

In Python2:

    from collections import OrderedDict
    from itertools import izip, repeat

    unique_list = list(OrderedDict(izip(my_list, repeat(None))))

In Python3 it's even simpler:

    from collections import OrderedDict
    from itertools import repeat

    unique_list = list(OrderedDict(zip(my_list, repeat(None))))

If you don't like iterators (zip and repeat) you can use a generator (works both in 2 & 3):

    from collections import OrderedDict
    unique_list = list(OrderedDict((element, None) for element in my_list))

        this.lineTo(pointsArray[i][0], pointsArray[i][1]);
    }
    if (strokeColor != null && strokeColor != undefined)

    if (fillColor != null && fillColor != undefined) {
        this.fillStyle = fillColor;
        this.fill();

var polygonPoints = [[10,100],[20,75],[50,100],[100,100],[10,100]];
context.fillPolygon(polygonPoints, '#F00','#000');

Make view 80% width of parent in React Native

If you are simply looking to make the input relative to the screen width, an easy way would be to use Dimensions:

// De structure Dimensions from React
var React = require('react-native');
var {
  ...
  Dimensions
} = React;

// Store width in variable
var width = Dimensions.get('window').width;

// Use width variable in style declaration
<TextInput style={{ width: width * .8 }} />

I've set up a working project here. Code is also below.

https://rnplay.org/apps/rqQPCQ

'use strict';

var React = require('react-native');
var {
  AppRegistry,
  StyleSheet,
  Text,
  View,
  TextInput,
  Dimensions
} = React;

var width = Dimensions.get('window').width;

var SampleApp = React.createClass({
  render: function() {
    return (
      <View style={styles.container}>
        <Text style={{fontSize:22}}>Percentage Width In React Native</Text>
        <View style={{marginTop:100, flexDirection: 'row',justifyContent: 'center'}}>
            <TextInput style={{backgroundColor: '#dddddd', height: 60, width: width*.8 }} />
          </View>
      </View>
    );
  }
});

var styles = StyleSheet.create({
  container: {
    flex: 1,
    marginTop:100
  },

});

AppRegistry.registerComponent('SampleApp', () => SampleApp);

Git keeps asking me for my ssh key passphrase

I would try the following:

  1. Start GitBash
  2. Edit your ~/.bashrc file
  3. Add the following lines to the file

SSH_ENV=$HOME/.ssh/environment

# start the ssh-agent
function start_agent {
    echo "Initializing new SSH agent..."
    # spawn ssh-agent
    /usr/bin/ssh-agent | sed 's/^echo/#echo/' > ${SSH_ENV}
    echo succeeded
    chmod 600 ${SSH_ENV}
    . ${SSH_ENV} > /dev/null
    /usr/bin/ssh-add
}

if [ -f "${SSH_ENV}" ]; then
     . ${SSH_ENV} > /dev/null
     ps -ef | grep ${SSH_AGENT_PID} | grep ssh-agent$ > /dev/null || {
        start_agent;
    }
else
    start_agent;
fi
  1. Save and close the file
  2. Close GitBash
  3. Reopen GitBash
  4. Enter your passphrase

Error Handler - Exit Sub vs. End Sub

Typically if you have database connections or other objects declared that, whether used safely or created prior to your exception, will need to be cleaned up (disposed of), then returning your error handling code back to the ProcExit entry point will allow you to do your garbage collection in both cases.

If you drop out of your procedure by falling to Exit Sub, you may risk having a yucky build-up of instantiated objects that are just sitting around in your program's memory.

Using Thymeleaf when the value is null

This can also be handled using the elvis operator ?: which will add a default value when the field is null:

<span th:text="${object.property} ?: 'default value'"></span>

What is the difference between "mvn deploy" to a local repo and "mvn install"?

"matt b" has it right, but to be specific, the "install" goal copies your built target to the local repository on your file system; useful for small changes across projects not currently meant for the full group.

The "deploy" goal uploads it to your shared repository for when your work is finished, and then can be shared by other people who require it for their project.

In your case, it seems that "install" is used to make the management of the deployment easier since CI's local repo is the shared repo. If CI was on another box, it would have to use the "deploy" goal.

writing to serial port from linux command line

SCREEN:

NOTE: screen is actually not able to send hex, as far as I know. To do that, use echo or printf

I was using the suggestions in this post to write to a serial port, then using the info from another post to read from the port, with mixed results. I found that using screen is an "easier" solution, since it opens a terminal session directly with that port. (I put easier in quotes, because screen has a really weird interface, IMO, and takes some further reading to figure it out.)

You can issue this command to open a screen session, then anything you type will be sent to the port, plus the return values will be printed below it:

screen /dev/ttyS0 19200,cs8

(Change the above to fit your needs for speed, parity, stop bits, etc.) I realize screen isn't the "linux command line" as the post specifically asks for, but I think it's in the same spirit. Plus, you don't have to type echo and quotes every time.

ECHO:

Follow praetorian droid's answer. HOWEVER, this didn't work for me until I also used the cat command (cat < /dev/ttyS0) while I was sending the echo command.

PRINTF:

I found that one can also use printf's '%x' command:

c="\x"$(printf '%x' 0x12)
printf $c >> $SERIAL_COMM_PORT

Again, for printf, start cat < /dev/ttyS0 before sending the command.

What are you trying to do with reflection?
You can use the Boost type traits and typeof libraries as a limited form of compile-time reflection. That is, you can inspect and modify the basic properties of a type passed to a template.

I do not understand how execlp() works in Linux

The limitation of execl is that when executing a shell command or any other script that is not in the current working directory, then we have to pass the full path of the command or the script. Example:

execl("/bin/ls", "ls", "-la", NULL);

The workaround to passing the full path of the executable is to use the function execlp, that searches for the file (1st argument of execlp) in those directories pointed by PATH:

execlp("ls", "ls", "-la", NULL);

Javascript: convert 24-hour time-of-day string to 12-hour time with AM/PM and no timezone

To get AM/PM, Check if the hour portion is less than 12, then it is AM, else PM.

To get the hour, do (hour % 12) || 12.

This should do it:

var timeString = "18:00:00";
var H = +timeString.substr(0, 2);
var h = H % 12 || 12;
var ampm = (H < 12 || H === 24) ? "AM" : "PM";
timeString = h + timeString.substr(2, 3) + ampm;

http://jsfiddle.net/Skwt7/4/

That assumes that AM times are formatted as, eg, 08:00:00. If they are formatted without the leading zero, you would have to test the position of the first colon:

var hourEnd = timeString.indexOf(":");
var H = +timeString.substr(0, hourEnd);
var h = H % 12 || 12;
var ampm = (H < 12 || H === 24) ? "AM" : "PM";
timeString = h + timeString.substr(hourEnd, 3) + ampm;

Simple way to sort strings in the (case sensitive) alphabetical order

The simple way to solve the problem is to use ComparisonChain from Guava http://docs.guava-libraries.googlecode.com/git/javadoc/com/google/common/collect/ComparisonChain.html

private static Comparator<String> stringAlphabeticalComparator = new Comparator<String>() {
        public int compare(String str1, String str2) {
            return ComparisonChain.start().
                                compare(str1,str2, String.CASE_INSENSITIVE_ORDER).
                                compare(str1,str2).
                                result();
         }
 };
Collections.sort(list, stringAlphabeticalComparator);

The first comparator from the chain will sort strings according to the case insensitive order, and the second comparator will sort strings according to the case insensitive order. As excepted strings appear in the result according to the alphabetical order:

"AA","Aa","aa","Development","development"

How to convert MySQL time to UNIX timestamp using PHP?

From one of my other posts, getting a unixtimestamp:

$unixTimestamp = time();

Converting to mysql datetime format:

$mysqlTimestamp = date("Y-m-d H:i:s", $unixTimestamp);

Getting some mysql timestamp:

$mysqlTimestamp = '2013-01-10 12:13:37';

Converting it to a unixtimestamp:

$unixTimestamp = strtotime('2010-05-17 19:13:37');

...comparing it with one or a range of times, to see if the user entered a realistic time:

if($unixTimestamp > strtotime("1999-12-15") && $unixTimestamp < strtotime("2025-12-15"))
{...}

Unix timestamps are safer too. You can do the following to check if a url passed variable is valid, before checking (for example) the previous range check:

if(ctype_digit($_GET["UpdateTimestamp"]))
{...}

python NameError: global name '__file__' is not defined

This error comes when you append this line os.path.join(os.path.dirname(__file__)) in python interactive shell.

Python Shell doesn't detect current file path in __file__ and it's related to your filepath in which you added this line

So you should write this line os.path.join(os.path.dirname(__file__)) in file.py. and then run python file.py, It works because it takes your filepath.

How does ApplicationContextAware work in Spring?

Spring source code to explain how ApplicationContextAware work
when you use ApplicationContext context = new ClassPathXmlApplicationContext("applicationContext.xml");
In AbstractApplicationContext class,the refresh() method have the following code:

// Prepare the bean factory for use in this context.
prepareBeanFactory(beanFactory);

enter this method,beanFactory.addBeanPostProcessor(new ApplicationContextAwareProcessor(this)); will add ApplicationContextAwareProcessor to AbstractrBeanFactory.

protected void prepareBeanFactory(ConfigurableListableBeanFactory beanFactory) {

        beanFactory.addPropertyEditorRegistrar(new ResourceEditorRegistrar(this, getEnvironment()));
        // Configure the bean factory with context callbacks.
        beanFactory.addBeanPostProcessor(new ApplicationContextAwareProcessor(this));

vertical & horizontal lines in matplotlib

The pyplot functions you are calling, axhline() and axvline() draw lines that span a portion of the axis range, regardless of coordinates. The parameters xmin or ymin use value 0.0 as the minimum of the axis and 1.0 as the maximum of the axis.

Instead, use plt.plot((x1, x2), (y1, y2), 'k-') to draw a line from the point (x1, y1) to the point (x2, y2) in color k. See pyplot.plot.

How to cherry pick a range of commits and merge into another branch?

Assume that you have 2 branches,

"branchA" : includes commits you want to copy (from "commitA" to "commitB"

"branchB" : the branch you want the commits to be transferred from "branchA"

1)

 git checkout <branchA>

2) get the IDs of "commitA" and "commitB"

3)

git checkout <branchB>

4)

git cherry-pick <commitA>^..<commitB>

5) In case you have a conflict, solve it and type

git cherry-pick --continue

to continue the cherry-pick process.

Easy way to dismiss keyboard?

Subclass your textfields... and also textviews

In the subclass put this code..

-(void)conformsToKeyboardDismissNotification{

    [[NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter] addObserver:self selector:@selector(dismissKeyBoard) name:KEYBOARD_DISMISS object:nil];
}

-(void)deConformsToKeyboardDismissNotification{

    [[NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter] removeObserver:self name:KEYBOARD_DISMISS object:nil];
}

- (void)dealloc{
    [[NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter] removeObserver:self];
    [self resignFirstResponder];
}

In the textfield delegates (similarly for textview delegates)

-(void)textFieldDidBeginEditing:(JCPTextField *)textField{
     [textField conformsToKeyboardDismissNotification];
}

- (void)textFieldDidEndEditing:(JCPTextField *)textField{
    [textField deConformsToKeyboardDismissNotification];
}

All set.. Now just post the notification from anywhere in your code. It will resign any keyboard.

What does the question mark operator mean in Ruby?

In your example

product.valid?

Is actually a function call and calls a function named valid?. Certain types of "test for condition"/boolean functions have a question mark as part of the function name by convention.

Objective-C: Calling selectors with multiple arguments

Your code has two problems. One was identified and answered, but the other wasn't. The first was that your selector was missing the name of its parameter. However, even when you fix that, the line will still raise an exception, assuming your revised method signature still includes more than one argument. Let's say your revised method is declared as:

-(void)myTestWithString:(NSString *)sourceString comparedTo:(NSString *)testString ;

Creating selectors for methods that take multiple arguments is perfectly valid (e.g. @selector(myTestWithString:comparedTo:) ). However, the performSelector method only allows you to pass one value to myTest, which unfortunately has more than one parameter. It will error out and tell you that you didn't supply enough values.

You could always redefine your method to take a collection as it's only parameter:

-(void)myTestWithObjects:(NSDictionary *)testObjects ;

However, there is a more elegant solution (that doesn't require refactoring). The answer is to use NSInvocation, along with its setArgument:atIndex: and invoke methods.

I've written up an article, including a code example, if you want more details. The focus is on threading, but the basics still apply.

Good luck!

Create list of single item repeated N times

As others have pointed out, using the * operator for a mutable object duplicates references, so if you change one you change them all. If you want to create independent instances of a mutable object, your xrange syntax is the most Pythonic way to do this. If you are bothered by having a named variable that is never used, you can use the anonymous underscore variable.

[e for _ in xrange(n)]

clear table jquery

The nuclear option:

$("#yourtableid").html("");

Destroys everything inside of #yourtableid. Be careful with your selectors, as it will destroy any html in the selector you pass!

Error: Selection does not contain a main type

I had this issue because the tutorial code I was trying to run wasn't in the correct package even though I had typed in the package name at the top of each class.

I right-clicked each class, Refactor and Move To and accepted the package name suggestion.

Then as usual, Run As... Java Application.

And it worked :)

How to get jSON response into variable from a jquery script

Your PHP array is defined as:

$arr = array ('resonse'=>'error','comment'=>'test comment here');

Notice the mispelling "resonse". Also, as RaYell has mentioned, you have to use data instead of json in your success function because its parameter is currently data.

Try editing your PHP file to change the spelling form resonse to response. It should work then.

So I guess the speed advantage only applies to more recent versions of Matlab

Get last record of a table in Postgres

If your table has no Id such as integer auto-increment, and no timestamp, you can still get the last row of a table with the following query.

select * from <tablename> offset ((select count(*) from <tablename>)-1)

For example, that could allow you to search through an updated flat file, find/confirm where the previous version ended, and copy the remaining lines to your table.

Select row and element in awk

To print the columns with a specific string, you use the // search pattern. For example, if you are looking for second columns that contains abc:

awk '$2 ~ /abc/'

... and if you want to print only a particular column:

awk '$2 ~ /abc/ { print $3 }'

... and for a particular line number:

awk '$2 ~ /abc/ && FNR == 5 { print $3 }'

How to install pywin32 module in windows 7

I disagree with the accepted answer being "the easiest", particularly if you want to use virtualenv.

You can use the Unofficial Windows Binaries instead. Download the appropriate wheel from there, and install it with pip:

pip install pywin32-219-cp27-none-win32.whl

(Make sure you pick the one for the right version and bitness of Python).

You might be able to get the URL and install it via pip without downloading it first, but they're made it a bit harder to just grab the URL. Probably better to download it and host it somewhere yourself.

How to set default values for Angular 2 component properties?

That is interesting subject. You can play around with two lifecycle hooks to figure out how it works: ngOnChanges and ngOnInit.

Basically when you set default value to Input that's mean it will be used only in case there will be no value coming on that component. And the interesting part it will be changed before component will be initialized.

Let's say we have such components with two lifecycle hooks and one property coming from input.

@Component({
  selector: 'cmp',
})
export class Login implements OnChanges, OnInit {
  @Input() property: string = 'default';

  ngOnChanges(changes) {
    console.log('Changed', changes.property.currentValue, changes.property.previousValue);
  }

  ngOnInit() {
    console.log('Init', this.property);
  }

}

Situation 1

Component included in html without defined property value

As result we will see in console: Init default

That's mean onChange was not triggered. Init was triggered and property value is default as expected.

Situation 2

Component included in html with setted property <cmp [property]="'new value'"></cmp>

As result we will see in console:

Changed new value Object {}

Init new value

And this one is interesting. Firstly was triggered onChange hook, which setted property to new value, and previous value was empty object! And only after that onInit hook was triggered with new value of property.

C# Scraping HTML Links

Scraping HTML extracts important page elements. It has many legal uses for webmasters and ASP.NET developers. With the Regex type and WebClient, we implement screen scraping for HTML.

Edited

Another easy way:you can use a web browser control for getting href from tag a,like this:(see my example)

 public Form1()
        {
            InitializeComponent();
            webBrowser1.DocumentCompleted += new WebBrowserDocumentCompletedEventHandler(webBrowser1_DocumentCompleted);
        }

        private void Form1_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
        {
            webBrowser1.DocumentText = "<a href=\"www.aaa.xx/xx.zz?id=xxxx&name=xxxx\" ....></a><a href=\"http://www.aaa.xx/xx.zz?id=xxxx&name=xxxx\" ....></a><a href=\"https://www.aaa.xx/xx.zz?id=xxxx&name=xxxx\" ....></a><a href=\"www.aaa.xx/xx.zz/xxx\" ....></a>";
        }

        void webBrowser1_DocumentCompleted(object sender, WebBrowserDocumentCompletedEventArgs e)
        {
            List<string> href = new List<string>();
            foreach (HtmlElement el in webBrowser1.Document.GetElementsByTagName("a"))
            {
                href.Add(el.GetAttribute("href"));
            }
        }

LaTeX: Multiple authors in a two-column article

What about using a tabular inside \author{}, just like in IEEE macros:

\documentclass{article}
\begin{document}
\title{Hello, World}
\author{

I. M. Author  & M. Y. Coauthor \\
My Department & Coauthor Department \\
My Institute & Coauthor Institute \\
email, address & email, address
\end{tabular}
}
\maketitle

This will produce two columns authors with any documentclass.

How do you convert a byte array to a hexadecimal string, and vice versa?

Either:

public static string ByteArrayToString(byte[] ba)
{
  StringBuilder hex = new StringBuilder(ba.Length * 2);
  foreach (byte b in ba)
    hex.AppendFormat("{0:x2}", b);
  return hex.ToString();
}

or:

public static string ByteArrayToString(byte[] ba)
{
  return BitConverter.ToString(ba).Replace("-","");
}

There are even more variants of doing it, for example here.

The reverse conversion would go like this:

public static byte[] StringToByteArray(String hex)
{
  int NumberChars = hex.Length;
  byte[] bytes = new byte[NumberChars / 2];
  for (int i = 0; i < NumberChars; i += 2)
    bytes[i / 2] = Convert.ToByte(hex.Substring(i, 2), 16);
  return bytes;
}

Using Substring is the best option in combination with Convert.ToByte. See this answer for more information. If you need better performance, you must avoid Convert.ToByte before you can drop SubString.

Cannot connect to local SQL Server with Management Studio

Check the sql log in the LOG directory of your instance - see if anything is going on there. You'll need to stop the service to open the log - or restart and you can read the old one - named with .1 on the end.

With the error you're getting, you need to enable TCP/IP or Named pipes for named connections. Shared memory connection should work, but you seem to not be using that. Are you trying to connect through SSMS?

In my log I see entries like this...

Server local connection provider is ready to accept connection on [\\.\pipe\mssql$sqlexpress\sql\query ]

As the comments said, .\SQLEXPRESS should work. Also worstationName\SQLEXPRESS will work.

    r='REceieve'
    clientsocket.send(r.encode())

The call on accept() on the serversocket blocks until there's a client connection. When you first connect to the server from the client, it accepts the connection and receives data. However, when it enters the loop again, it is waiting for another connection and thus blocks as there are no other clients that are trying to connect.

That's the reason the recv works correct only the first time. What you should do is find out how you can handle the communication with a client that has been accepted - maybe by creating a new Thread to handle communication with that client and continue accepting new clients in the loop, handling them in the same way.

Tip: If you want to work on creating your own chat application, you should look at a networking engine like Twisted. It will help you understand the whole concept better too.

Configure Log4Net in web application

often this is due to missing permissions. The windows account the local IIS Application Pool is running with may not have the permission to write to the applications directory. You could create a directory somewhere, give everyone permission to write in it and point your log4net config to that directory. If then a log file is created there, you can modify the permissions for your desired log directory so that the app pool can write to it.

Another reason could be an uninitialized log4net. In a winforms app, you usually configure log4net upon application start. In a web app, you can do this either dynamically (in your logging component, check if you can create a specific Ilog logger using its name, if not -> call configure()) or again upon application start in global.asax.cs.

Replacing last character in a String with java

Try this:

s = s.replaceAll("[,]$", "");

How do you do the "therefore" (?) symbol on a Mac or in Textmate?

First you use a full stop, then you hold down alt and press the letter H and put in another full stop. .?.

T-SQL loop over query results

My prefer solution is Microsoft KB 111401 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/111401.

The link refers to 3 examples:

This article describes various methods that you can use to simulate a cursor-like FETCH-NEXT logic in a stored procedure, trigger, or Transact-SQL batch.

/*********** example 1 ***********/

WPF Application that only has a tray icon

I recently had this same problem. Unfortunately, NotifyIcon is only a Windows.Forms control at the moment, if you want to use it you are going to have to include that part of the framework. I guess that depends how much of a WPF purist you are.

If you want a quick and easy way of getting started check out this WPF NotifyIcon control on the Code Project which does not rely on the WinForms NotifyIcon at all. A more recent version seems to be available on the author's website and as a NuGet package. This seems like the best and cleanest way to me so far.

  • Rich ToolTips rather than text
  • WPF context menus and popups
  • Command support and routed events
  • Flexible data binding
  • Rich balloon messages rather than the default messages provides by the OS

Check it out. It comes with an amazing sample app too, very easy to use, and you can have great looking Windows Live Messenger style WPF popups, tooltips, and context menus. Perfect for displaying an RSS feed, I am using it for a similar purpose.

How to filter an array/object by checking multiple values

You can use .filter() method of the Array object:

var filtered = workItems.filter(function(element) {
   // Create an array using `.split()` method
   var cats = element.category.split(' ');

   // Filter the returned array based on specified filters
   // If the length of the returned filtered array is equal to
   // length of the filters array the element should be returned
   return cats.filter(function(cat) {
       return filtersArray.indexOf(cat) > -1;
   }).length === filtersArray.length;
});

http://jsfiddle.net/6RBnB/

Some old browsers like IE8 doesn't support .filter() method of the Array object, if you are using jQuery you can use .filter() method of jQuery object.

jQuery version:

var filtered = $(workItems).filter(function(i, element) {
   var cats = element.category.split(' ');

    return $(cats).filter(function(_, cat) {
       return $.inArray(cat, filtersArray) > -1;
    }).length === filtersArray.length;
});

Removing App ID from Developer Connection

Update: You can now remove an App ID (as noted by @Guru in the comments).

In the past, this was not possible: I had the same problem, and the folks at Apple replied that they will leave all of the App ID you create associated to your login, to keep track of a sort of history related to your login.

It seems that they finally changed idea about.

How to compare arrays in JavaScript?

This method is one that only works on scalar arrays, like the second voted answer on this question.

_x000D_
_x000D_
var arrs = [
  [[1, 2, 3], [1, 2, 3]], // true
  [[1, 2, 3, 4], [1, 2, 3]], // false
  [[1, 2, 3], [1, 2, 3, 4]], // false
]

const arraysEqual = (one, two) => (one.filter((i, n) => two[n] === i).length === one.length) && (two.filter((i, n) => one[n] === i).length === two.length)

arrs.forEach(arr => {
  console.log(arraysEqual(arr[0], arr[1]))
})

Without ES6 syntax:

  [[1, 2, 3, 4], [1, 2, 3]], // false

How to delete an element from an array in C#

If you want to remove all instances of 4 without needing to know the index:

LINQ: (.NET Framework 3.5)

int[] numbers = { 1, 3, 4, 9, 2 };
int numToRemove = 4;
numbers = numbers.Where(val => val != numToRemove).ToArray();

Non-LINQ: (.NET Framework 2.0)

static bool isNotFour(int n)
{
    return n != 4;
}

int[] numbers = { 1, 3, 4, 9, 2 };
numbers = Array.FindAll(numbers, isNotFour).ToArray();

If you want to remove just the first instance:

LINQ: (.NET Framework 3.5)

int[] numbers = { 1, 3, 4, 9, 2, 4 };
int numToRemove = 4;
int numIndex = Array.IndexOf(numbers, numToRemove);
numbers = numbers.Where((val, idx) => idx != numIndex).ToArray();

Non-LINQ: (.NET Framework 2.0)

int[] numbers = { 1, 3, 4, 9, 2, 4 };
int numToRemove = 4;
int numIdx = Array.IndexOf(numbers, numToRemove);
List<int> tmp = new List<int>(numbers);
tmp.RemoveAt(numIdx);
numbers = tmp.ToArray();

Edit: Just in case you hadn't already figured it out, as Malfist pointed out, you need to be targetting the .NET Framework 3.5 in order for the LINQ code examples to work. If you're targetting 2.0 you need to reference the Non-LINQ examples.

Programmatically get height of navigation bar

If you want to get the navigationBar height only, it's simple:

extension UIViewController{
   var navigationBarHeight: CGFloat {
       return self.navigationController?.navigationBar.frame.height ?? 0.0
   }
}

However, if you need the height of top notch of iPhone you don't need to get the navigationBar height and add to it the statusBar height, you can simply call safeAreaInsets that's why exist.

self.view.safeAreaInsets.top

href overrides ng-click in Angular.js

There are so many answers for this question here but it seems there is a bit of confusion about what's actually going on here.

Firstly, your premise

"href overrides ng-click in Angular.js"

is wrong. What is actually happening is that after your click, the click event is first handled by angular(defined by ng-click directive in angular 1.x and click in angular 2.x+) and then it continues to propagate(which eventually triggers the browser to navigate to the url defined with href attribute).(See this for more about event propagation in javascript)

If you want to avoid this, then you should cancel the event propagation using the The Event interface's preventDefault() method:

<a href="#" ng-click="$event.preventDefault();logout()" />

(This is pure javascript functionality and nothing to do with angular)

Now, this will already solve your problem but this is not the optimal solution. Angular, rightfully, promotes the MVC pattern. With this solution, your html template is mixed with the javascript logic. You should try to avoid this as much as possible and put your logic into your angular controller. So a better way would be

<a href="#" ng-click="logout($event)" />

And in your logout() method:

logout($event) {
   $event.preventDefault();
   ...
}

Now the click event will not reach the browser, so it will not try to load the link pointed by href. (However note that if the user right clicks on the link and directly opens the link, then there won't be a click event at all. Instead it will directly load the url pointed by the href attribute.)

Regarding the comments about visited link color in the browsers. Again this has nothing to do with angular, if your href="..." points to a visited url by your browser by default the link color will be different. This is controlled by CSS :visited Selector, you can modify your css to override this behaviour:

a {
   color:pink;
}

PS1:

Some answers suggest to use:

<a href .../>

href is an angular directive. When your template is processed by angular this will be converted to

<a href="" .../>

Those two ways are essentially the same.

How to unpack an .asar file?

How to watch and compile all TypeScript sources?

Technically speaking you have a few options here:

If you are using an IDE like Sublime Text and integrated MSN plugin for Typescript: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/interoperability/archive/2012/10/01/sublime-text-vi-emacs-typescript-enabled.aspx you can create a build system which compile the .ts source to .js automatically. Here is the explanation how you can do it: How to configure a Sublime Build System for TypeScript.

You can define even to compile the source code to destination .js file on file save. There is a sublime package hosted on github: https://github.com/alexnj/SublimeOnSaveBuild which make this happen, only you need to include the ts extension in the SublimeOnSaveBuild.sublime-settings file.

Another possibility would be to compile each file in the command line. You can compile even multiple files at once by separating them with spaces like so: tsc foo.ts bar.ts. Check this thread: How can I pass multiple source files to the TypeScript compiler?, but i think the first option is more handy.

"java.lang.OutOfMemoryError : unable to create new native Thread"

I had this same issue and it turned out to be an improper usage of an java API. I was initializing a builder in a batch processing method that was that not supposed to be initiallized more than once.

Basically I was doing something like:

for (batch in batches) {
    process_batch(batch)
}

def process_batch(batch) {
    var client = TransportClient.builder().build()
    client.processList(batch)
}

when I should have done this:

for (batch in batches) {
    var client = TransportClient.builder().build()
    process_batch(batch, client)
}

def process_batch(batch, client) {
    client.processList(batch)
}

Bootstrap 3 Carousel fading to new slide instead of sliding to new slide

I used the plain .css. It worked great. Note that I deleted the following from the bootstrap.min.css:

/* Fade transition for carousel items */

.carousel .item {
   left: 0 !important;
   -webkit-transition: opacity .4s;
    /*adjust timing here */
   -moz-transition: opacity .4s;
   -o-transition: opacity .4s;
   transition: opacity .4s;
}

.carousel-control {
   background-image: none !important;
   /* remove background gradients on controls */
}

/* Fade controls with items */

.next.left, .prev.right {
   opacity: 1;
   z-index: 1;
}

.active.left, .active.right {
   opacity: 0;
   z-index: 2;
}

How to format numbers by prepending 0 to single-digit numbers?

@Lifehack's answer was very useful to me; where I think we can do it in one line for positive numbers

 String(input).padStart(2, '0');

Incrementing a variable inside a Bash loop

Using the following 1 line command for changing many files name in linux using phrase specificity:

find -type f -name '*.jpg' | rename 's/holiday/honeymoon/'

For all files with the extension ".jpg", if they contain the string "holiday", replace it with "honeymoon". For instance, this command would rename the file "ourholiday001.jpg" to "ourhoneymoon001.jpg".

This example also illustrates how to use the find command to send a list of files (-type f) with the extension .jpg (-name '*.jpg') to rename via a pipe (|). rename then reads its file list from standard input.

pandas GroupBy columns with NaN (missing) values

One small point to Andy Hayden's solution – it doesn't work (anymore?) because np.nan == np.nan yields False, so the replace function doesn't actually do anything.

What worked for me was this:

df['b'] = df['b'].apply(lambda x: x if not np.isnan(x) else -1)

(At least that's the behavior for Pandas 0.19.2. Sorry to add it as a different answer, I do not have enough reputation to comment.)

jQuery .each() with input elements

To extract number :

var arrNumber = new Array();
$('input[type=number]').each(function(){
    arrNumber.push($(this).val());
})

To extract text:

var arrText= new Array();
$('input[type=text]').each(function(){
    arrText.push($(this).val());
})

Edit : .map implementation

var arrText= $('input[type=text]').map(function(){
    return this.value;
}).get();

How to flush output of print function?

Since Python 3.3, you can force the normal print() function to flush without the need to use sys.stdout.flush(); just set the "flush" keyword argument to true. From the documentation:

print(*objects, sep=' ', end='\n', file=sys.stdout, flush=False)

Print objects to the stream file, separated by sep and followed by end. sep, end and file, if present, must be given as keyword arguments.

All non-keyword arguments are converted to strings like str() does and written to the stream, separated by sep and followed by end. Both sep and end must be strings; they can also be None, which means to use the default values. If no objects are given, print() will just write end.

The file argument must be an object with a write(string) method; if it is not present or None, sys.stdout will be used. Whether output is buffered is usually determined by file, but if the flush keyword argument is true, the stream is forcibly flushed.

Hexadecimal To Decimal in Shell Script

To convert from hex to decimal, there are many ways to do it in the shell or with an external program:

With :

$ echo $((16#FF))
255

with :

$ echo "ibase=16; FF" | bc
255

with :

$ perl -le 'print hex("FF");'
255

with :

$ printf "%d\n" 0xFF
255

with :

$ python -c 'print(int("FF", 16))'
255

with :

$ ruby -e 'p "FF".to_i(16)'
255

with :

$ nodejs <<< "console.log(parseInt('FF', 16))"
255

with :

$ rhino<<EOF
print(parseInt('FF', 16))
EOF
...
255

with :

$ groovy -e 'println Integer.parseInt("FF",16)'
255

How Can I Set the Default Value of a Timestamp Column to the Current Timestamp with Laravel Migrations?

How can I disable mod_security in .htaccess file?

It is possible to do this, but most likely your host implemented mod_security for a reason. Be sure they approve of you disabling it for your own site.

That said, this should do it;

<IfModule mod_security.c>
  SecFilterEngine Off
  SecFilterScanPOST Off
</IfModule>

How do I give PHP write access to a directory?

I had the same problem:

As I was reluctant to give 0777 to my php directory, I create a tmp directory with rights 0777, where I create the files I need to write to.

My php directory continue to be protected. If somebody hackes the tmp directory, the site continue to work as usual.

ie8 var w= window.open() - "Message: Invalid argument."

Actually a name can be used however it cannot have spaces so window.open("../myPage","MyWindows",...) should work with no problem (window.open).

How to set a hidden value in Razor

While I would have gone with Piotr's answer (because it's all in one line), I was surprised that your sample is closer to your solution than you think. From what you have, you simply assign the model value before you use the Html helper method.

@{Model.RequiredProperty = "default";}
@Html.HiddenFor(model => model.RequiredProperty)

Unique Key constraints for multiple columns in Entity Framework

With Entity Framework 6.1, you can now do this:

[Index("IX_FirstAndSecond", 1, IsUnique = true)]
public int FirstColumn { get; set; }

[Index("IX_FirstAndSecond", 2, IsUnique = true)]
public int SecondColumn { get; set; }

The second parameter in the attribute is where you can specify the order of the columns in the index.

How to pass parameters to ThreadStart method in Thread?

The simplest is just

string filename = ...
Thread thread = new Thread(() => download(filename));
thread.Start();

The advantage(s) of this (over ParameterizedThreadStart) is that you can pass multiple parameters, and you get compile-time checking without needing to cast from object all the time.

PostgreSQL: Show tables in PostgreSQL

You can use PostgreSQL's interactive terminal Psql to show tables in PostgreSQL.

1. Start Psql

Usually you can run the following command to enter into psql:

psql DBNAME USERNAME

For example, psql template1 postgres

One situation you might have is: suppose you login as root, and you don't remember the database name. You can just enter first into Psql by running:

sudo -u postgres psql

In some systems, sudo command is not available, you can instead run either command below:

psql -U postgres
psql --username=postgres

2. Show tables

Now in Psql you could run commands such as:

  1. \? list all the commands
  2. \l list databases
  3. \conninfo display information about current connection
  4. \c [DBNAME] connect to new database, e.g., \c template1
  5. \dt list tables of the public schema
  6. \dt <schema-name>.* list tables of certain schema, e.g., \dt public.*
  7. \dt *.* list tables of all schemas
  8. Then you can run SQL statements, e.g., SELECT * FROM my_table;(Note: a statement must be terminated with semicolon ;)
  9. \q quit psql
