Programs & Examples On #Dom4j

dom4j is an open source library for working with XML, XPath and XSLT on the Java platform using the Java Collections Framework and with full support for DOM, SAX and JAXP.

XPath contains(text(),'some string') doesn't work when used with node with more than one Text subnode

It took me a little while but finally figured out. Custom xpath that contains some text below worked perfectly for me.

//a[contains(text(),'JB-')]

Angular window resize event

@Günter's answer is correct. I just wanted to propose yet another method.

You could also add the host-binding inside the @Component()-decorator. You can put the event and desired function call in the host-metadata-property like so:

@Component({
  selector: 'app-root',
  templateUrl: './app.component.html',
  styleUrls: ['./app.component.css'],
  host: {
    '(window:resize)': 'onResize($event)'
  }
})
export class AppComponent{
   onResize(event){
     event.target.innerWidth; // window width
   }
}

CodeIgniter: How to use WHERE clause and OR clause

What worked for me :

  $where = '';
   /* $this->db->like('ust.title',$query_data['search'])
        ->or_like('usr.f_name',$query_data['search'])
        ->or_like('usr.l_name',$query_data['search']);*/
        $where .= "(ust.title like '%".$query_data['search']."%'";
        $where .= " or usr.f_name like '%".$query_data['search']."%'";
        $where .= "or usr.l_name like '%".$query_data['search']."%')";
        $this->db->where($where);

$datas = $this->db->join(TBL_USERS.' AS usr','ust.user_id=usr.id')
            ->where_in('ust.id', $blog_list)
            ->select('ust.*,usr.f_name as f_name,usr.email as email,usr.avatar as avatar, usr.sex as sex')
            ->get_where(TBL_GURU_BLOG.' AS ust',[
                'ust.deleted_at'     =>  NULL,
                'ust.status'     =>  1,
            ]);

I have to do this to create a query like this :

SELECT `ust`.*, `usr`.`f_name` as `f_name`, `usr`.`email` as `email`, `usr`.`avatar` as `avatar`, `usr`.`sex` as `sex` FROM `blog` AS `ust` JOIN `users` AS `usr` ON `ust`.`user_id`=`usr`.`id` WHERE (`ust`.`title` LIKE '%mer%' ESCAPE '!' OR  `usr`.`f_name` LIKE '%lok%' ESCAPE '!' OR  `usr`.`l_name` LIKE '%mer%' ESCAPE '!') AND `ust`.`id` IN('36', '37', '38') AND `ust`.`deleted_at` IS NULL AND `ust`.`status` = 1 ;

How can I compare two lists in python and return matches

You can use:

a = [1, 3, 4, 5, 9, 6, 7, 8]
b = [1, 7, 0, 9]
same_values = set(a) & set(b)
print same_values

Output:

set([1, 7, 9])

How do I find the version of Apache running without access to the command line?

httpd -v will give you the version of Apache running on your server (if you have SSH/shell access).

The output should be something like this:

Server version: Apache/2.2.3
Server built:   Oct 20 2011 17:00:12

As has been suggested you can also do apachectl -v which will give you the same output, but will be supported by more flavours of Linux.

Wildcards in jQuery selectors

To get all the elements starting with "jander" you should use:

$("[id^=jander]")

To get those that end with "jander"

$("[id$=jander]")

How to prevent Browser cache for php site

try this

header("Cache-Control: post-check=0, pre-check=0", false);
header("Pragma: no-cache");
?>

Using an index to get an item, Python

What you show, ('A','B','C','D','E'), is not a list, it's a tuple (the round parentheses instead of square brackets show that). Nevertheless, whether it to index a list or a tuple (for getting one item at an index), in either case you append the index in square brackets.

So:

thetuple = ('A','B','C','D','E')
print thetuple[0]

prints A, and so forth.

Tuples (differently from lists) are immutable, so you couldn't assign to thetuple[0] etc (as you could assign to an indexing of a list). However you can definitely just access ("get") the item by indexing in either case.

Should functions return null or an empty object?

I tend to

  • return null if the object id doesn't exist when it's not known beforehand whether it should exist.
  • throw if the object id doesn't exist when it should exist.

I differentiate these two scenarios with these three types of methods. First:

Boolean TryGetSomeObjectById(Int32 id, out SomeObject o)
{
    if (InternalIdExists(id))
    {
        o = InternalGetSomeObject(id);

        return true;
    }
    else
    {
        return false;
    }
}

Second:

SomeObject FindSomeObjectById(Int32 id)
{
    SomeObject o;

    return TryGetObjectById(id, out o) ? o : null;
}

Third:

SomeObject GetSomeObjectById(Int32 id)
{
    SomeObject o;

    if (!TryGetObjectById(id, out o))
    {
        throw new SomeAppropriateException();
    }

    return o;
}

How to convert buffered image to image and vice-versa?

Example: say you have an 'image' you want to scale you will need a bufferedImage probably, and probably will be starting out with just 'Image' object. So this works I think... The AVATAR_SIZE is the target width we want our image to be:

Image imgData = image.getScaledInstance(Constants.AVATAR_SIZE, -1, Image.SCALE_SMOOTH);

BufferedImage bufferedImage = new BufferedImage(imgData.getWidth(null), imgData.getHeight(null), BufferedImage.TYPE_INT_RGB);

bufferedImage.getGraphics().drawImage(imgData, 0, 0, null);

Get a list of all the files in a directory (recursive)

Newer versions of Groovy (1.7.2+) offer a JDK extension to more easily traverse over files in a directory, for example:

import static groovy.io.FileType.FILES
def dir = new File(".");
def files = [];
dir.traverse(type: FILES, maxDepth: 0) { files.add(it) };

What is the difference between visibility:hidden and display:none?

display: none removes the element from the page entirely, and the page is built as though the element were not there at all.

Visibility: hidden leaves the space in the document flow even though you can no longer see it.

This may or may not make a big difference depending on what you are doing.

Data at the root level is invalid

I found that the example I was using had an xml document specification on the first line. I was using a stylesheet I got at this blog entry and the first line was

<?xmlversion="1.0"encoding="utf-8"?>

which was causing the error. When I removed that line, so that the stylesheet started with the line

<xsl:stylesheet version="1.0" xmlns:DTS="www.microsoft.com/SqlServer/Dts" xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform">

my transform worked. By the way, that blog post was the first good, easy-to follow example I have found for trying to get information from the XML definition of an SSIS package, but I did have to modify the paths in the example for my SSIS 2008 packages, so you might too. I also created a version to extract the "flow" from the precedence constraints. My final one looks like this:

    <xsl:stylesheet version="1.0" xmlns:DTS="www.microsoft.com/SqlServer/Dts" xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform">
    <xsl:output method="text" encoding="utf-8" />
    <xsl:template match="/">
    <xsl:text>From,To~</xsl:text>
    <xsl:text>
</xsl:text>
    <xsl:for-each select="//DTS:PrecedenceConstraints/DTS:PrecedenceConstraint">
      <xsl:value-of select="@DTS:From"/>
      <xsl:text>,</xsl:text>
      <xsl:value-of select="@DTS:To"/>
       <xsl:text>~</xsl:text>
      <xsl:text>
</xsl:text>
    </xsl:for-each>
    </xsl:template>
</xsl:stylesheet>

and gave me a CSV with the tilde as my line delimiter. I replaced that with a line feed in my text editor then imported into excel to get a with look at the data flow in the package.

Oracle: how to add minutes to a timestamp?

All of the other answers are basically right but I don't think anyone's directly answered your original question.

Assuming that "date_and_time" in your example is a column with type DATE or TIMESTAMP, I think you just need to change this:

to_char(date_and_time + (.000694 * 31))

to this:

to_char(date_and_time + (.000694 * 31), 'DD-MON-YYYY HH24:MI')

It sounds like your default date format uses the "HH" code for the hour, not "HH24".

Also, I think your constant term is both confusing and imprecise. I guess what you did is calculate that (.000694) is about the value of a minute, and you are multiplying it by the number of minutes you want to add (31 in the example, although you said 30 in the text).

I would also start with a day and divide it into the units you want within your code. In this case, (1/48) would be 30 minutes; or if you wanted to break it up for clarity, you could write ( (1/24) * (1/2) ).

This would avoid rounding errors (except for those inherent in floating point which should be meaningless here) and is clearer, at least to me.

How to empty the message in a text area with jquery?

A comment to jarijira

Well I have had many issues with .html and .empty() methods for inputs o. If the id represents an input and not another type of html selector like

or use the .val() function to manipulate.

For example: this is the proper way to manipulate input values

<textarea class="form-control" id="someInput"></textarea>

$(document).ready(function () {
     var newVal='test'
     $('#someInput').val('') //clear input value
     $('#someInput').val(newVal) //override w/ the new value
     $('#someInput').val('test2)
     newVal= $('#someInput').val(newVal) //get input value

}

For improper, but sometimes works For example: this is the proper way to manipulate input values

<textarea class="form-control" id="someInput"></textarea>

$(document).ready(function () {
     var newVal='test'
     $('#someInput').html('') //clear input value
     $('#someInput').empty() //clear html inside of the id
     $('#someInput').html(newVal) //override the html inside of text area w/ string could be '<div>test3</div>
     really overriding with a string manipulates the value, but this is not the best practice as you do not put things besides strings or values inside of an input.
     newVal= $('#someInput').val(newVal) //get input value

}

An issue that I had was I was using the $getJson method and I was indeed able to use .html calls to manipulate my inputs. However, whenever I had an error or fail on the getJSON I could no longer change my inputs using the .clear and .html calls. I could still return the .val(). After some experimentation and research I discovered that you should only use the .val() function to make changes to input fields.

Search a string in a file and delete it from this file by Shell Script

This should do it:

sed -e s/deletethis//g -i *
sed -e "s/deletethis//g" -i.backup *
sed -e "s/deletethis//g" -i .backup *

it will replace all occurrences of "deletethis" with "" (nothing) in all files (*), editing them in place.

In the second form the pattern can be edited a little safer, and it makes backups of any modified files, by suffixing them with ".backup".

The third form is the way some versions of sed like it. (e.g. Mac OS X)

man sed for more information.

HTML inside Twitter Bootstrap popover

This is an old question, but this is another way, using jQuery to reuse the popover and to keep using the original bootstrap data attributes to make it more semantic:

The link

<a href="#" rel="popover" data-trigger="focus" data-popover-content="#popover">
   Show it!
</a>

Custom content to show

<!-- Let's show the Bootstrap nav on the popover-->
<div id="list-popover" class="hide">
    <ul class="nav nav-pills nav-stacked">
        <li><a href="#">Action</a></li>
        <li><a href="#">Another action</a></li>
        <li><a href="#">Something else here</a></li>
        <li><a href="#">Separated link</a></li>
    </ul>
</div>

Javascript

$('[rel="popover"]').popover({
    container: 'body',
    html: true,
    content: function () {
        var clone = $($(this).data('popover-content')).clone(true).removeClass('hide');
        return clone;
    }
});

How to set a fixed width column with CSS flexbox

You should use the flex or flex-basis property rather than width. Read more on MDN.

.flexbox .red {
  flex: 0 0 25em;
}

The flex CSS property is a shorthand property specifying the ability of a flex item to alter its dimensions to fill available space. It contains:

flex-grow: 0;     /* do not grow   - initial value: 0 */
flex-shrink: 0;   /* do not shrink - initial value: 1 */
flex-basis: 25em; /* width/height  - initial value: auto */

How to re import an updated package while in Python Interpreter?

How/When does Execute Shell mark a build as failure in Jenkins?

First things first, hover the mouse over the grey area below. Not part of the answer, but absolutely has to be said:

If you have a shell script that does "checkout, build, deploy" all by itself, then why are you using Jenkins? You are foregoing all the features of Jenkins that make it what it is. You might as well have a cron or an SVN post-commit hook call the script directly. Jenkins performing the SVN checkout itself is crucial. It allows the builds to be triggered only when there are changes (or on timer, or manual, if you prefer). It keeps track of changes between builds. It shows those changes, so you can see which build was for which set of changes. It emails committers when their changes caused successful or failed build (again, as configured as you prefer). It will email committers when their fixes fixed the failing build. And more and more. Jenkins archiving the artifacts also makes them available, per build, straight off Jenkins. While not as crucial as the SVN checkout, this is once again an integral part of what makes it Jenkins. Same with deploying. Unless you have a single environment, deployment usually happens to multiple environments. Jenkins can keep track of which environment a specific build (with specific set of SVN changes) is deployed it, through the use of Promotions. You are foregoing all of this. It sounds like you are told "you have to use Jenkins" but you don't really want to, and you are doing it just to get your bosses off your back, just to put a checkmark "yes, I've used Jenkins"

The short answer is: the exit code of last command of the Jenkin's Execute Shell build step is what determines the success/failure of the Build Step. 0 - success, anything else - failure. Note, this is determining the success/failure of the build step, not the whole job run. The success/failure of the whole job run can further be affected by multiple build steps, and post-build actions and plugins.

You've mentioned Build step 'Execute shell' marked build as failure, so we will focus just on a single build step. If your Execute shell build step only has a single line that calls your shell script, then the exit code of your shell script will determine the success/failure of the build step. If you have more lines, after your shell script execution, then carefully review them, as they are the ones that could be causing failure.

Finally, have a read here Jenkins Build Script exits after Google Test execution. It is not directly related to your question, but note that part about Jenkins launching the Execute Shell build step, as a shell script with /bin/sh -xe

The -e means that the shell script will exit with failure, even if just 1 command fails, even if you do error checking for that command (because the script exits before it gets to your error checking). This is contrary to normal execution of shell scripts, which usually print the error message for the failed command (or redirect it to null and handle it by other means), and continue.

To circumvent this, add set +e to the top of your shell script.

Since you say your script does all it is supposed to do, chances are the failing command is somewhere at the end of the script. Maybe a final echo? Or copy of artifacts somewhere? Without seeing the full console output, we are just guessing.

Please post the job run's console output, and preferably the shell script itself too, and then we could tell you exactly which line is failing.

<code> vs <pre> vs <samp> for inline and block code snippets

Consider TextArea

People finding this via Google and looking for a better way to manage the display of their snippets should also consider <textarea> which gives a lot of control over width/height, scrolling etc. Noting that @vsync mentioned the deprecated tag <xmp>, I find <textarea readonly> is an excellent substitute for displaying HTML without the need to escape anything inside it (except where </textarea> might appear within).

For example, to display a single line with controlled line wrapping, consider <textarea rows=1 cols=100 readonly> your html or etc with any characters including tabs and CrLf's </textarea>.

Convert integer into byte array (Java)

It's my solution:

public void getBytes(int val) {
    byte[] bytes = new byte[Integer.BYTES];
    for (int i = 0;i < bytes.length; i ++) {
        int j = val % Byte.MAX_VALUE;
        bytes[i] = (j == 0 ? Byte.MAX_VALUE : j);
    }
}

Also Stringy method:

public void getBytes(int val) {
    String hex = Integer.toHexString(val);
    byte[] val = new byte[hex.length()/2]; // because byte is 2 hex chars
    for (int i = 0; i < hex.length(); i+=2)
        val[i] = Byte.parseByte("0x" + hex.substring(i, i+2), 16);
    return val;
}

Find files containing a given text

How to import Maven dependency in Android Studio/IntelliJ?

  1. Uncheck "Offline work" in File>Settings>Gradle>Global Gradle Settings
  2. Resync the project, for example by restarting the Android Studio
  3. Once synced, you can check the option again to work offline.

Passing multiple variables to another page in url

Use & for this. Using & you can put as many variables as you want!

$url = "http://localhost/main.php?event_id=".$event_id."&email=".$email;

Message "Async callback was not invoked within the 5000 ms timeout specified by jest.setTimeout"

For Jest 24.9+ we just need to add --testTimeout in the command line

--testTimeout= 10000 // timeout of 10s

The default timeout value is 5000. This will be applicable for all test cases.

or if you want to give timeout to particular function only then you can use this syntax while declaring the test case.

test(name, fn, timeout)

example

test('example', async () => {

}, 10000); // timeout of 10s (default is 5000)

Understanding REST: Verbs, error codes, and authentication

For the examples you stated I'd use the following:

activate_login

POST /users/1/activation

deactivate_login

DELETE /users/1/activation

change_password

PUT /passwords (this assumes the user is authenticated)

add_credit

POST /credits (this assumes the user is authenticated)

For errors you'd return the error in the body in the format that you got the request in, so if you receive:

DELETE /users/1.xml

You'd send the response back in XML, the same would be true for JSON etc...

For authentication you should use http authentication.

How to prevent downloading images and video files from my website?

As many have said, you can't stop someone from downloading content. You just can't.

But you can make it harder.

You can overlay images with a transparent div, which will prevent people from right clicking on them (or, setting the background of a div to the image will have the same effect).

If you're worried about cross-linking (ie, other people linking to your images, you can check the HTTP referrer and redirect requests which come from a domain which isn't yours to "something else".

Rename Pandas DataFrame Index

You can also use Index.set_names as follows:

In [25]: x = pd.DataFrame({'year':[1,1,1,1,2,2,2,2],
   ....:                   'country':['A','A','B','B','A','A','B','B'],
   ....:                   'prod':[1,2,1,2,1,2,1,2],
   ....:                   'val':[10,20,15,25,20,30,25,35]})

In [26]: x = x.set_index(['year','country','prod']).squeeze()

In [27]: x
Out[27]:
year  country  prod
1     A        1       10
               2       20
      B        1       15
               2       25
2     A        1       20
               2       30
      B        1       25
               2       35
Name: val, dtype: int64
In [28]: x.index = x.index.set_names('foo', level=1)

In [29]: x
Out[29]:
year  foo  prod
1     A    1       10
           2       20
      B    1       15
           2       25
2     A    1       20
           2       30
      B    1       25
           2       35

Is there a "between" function in C#?

Except for the answer by @Ed G, all of the answers require knowing which bound is the lower and which is the upper one.

Here's a (rather non-obvious) way of doing it when you don't know which bound is which.

  /// <summary>
  /// Method to test if a value is "between" two other values, when the relative magnitude of
  /// the two other values is not known, i.e., number1 may be larger or smaller than number2.
  /// The range is considered to be inclusive of the lower value and exclusive of the upper
  /// value, irrespective of which parameter (number1 or number2) is the lower or upper value.
  /// This implies that if number1 equals number2 then the result is always false.
  ///
  /// This was extracted from a larger function that tests if a point is in a polygon:
  /// http://www.ecse.rpi.edu/Homepages/wrf/Research/Short_Notes/pnpoly.html
  /// </summary>
  /// <param name="testValue">value to be tested for being "between" the other two numbers</param>
  /// <param name="number1">one end of the range</param>
  /// <param name="number2">the other end of the range</param>
  /// <returns>true if testValue >= lower of the two numbers and less than upper of the two numbers,
  ///          false otherwise, incl. if number1 == number2</returns>
  private static bool IsInRange(T testValue, T number1, T number2)
  {
     return (testValue <= number1) != (testValue <= number2);
  }

Note: This is NOT a generic method; it is pseudo code. The T in the above method should be replaced by a proper type, "int" or "float" or whatever. (There are ways of making this generic, but they're sufficiently messy that it's not worth while for a one-line method, at least not in most situations.)

Trim whitespace from a String

Your code is fine. What you are seeing is a linker issue.

If you put your code in a single file like this:

#include <iostream>
#include <string>

using namespace std;

string trim(const string& str)
{
    size_t first = str.find_first_not_of(' ');
    if (string::npos == first)
    {
        return str;
    }
    size_t last = str.find_last_not_of(' ');
    return str.substr(first, (last - first + 1));
}

int main() {
    string s = "abc ";
    cout << trim(s);

}

then do g++ test.cc and run a.out, you will see it works.

You should check if the file that contains the trim function is included in the link stage of your compilation process.

Store an array in HashMap

Your life will be much easier if you can save a List as the value instead of an array in that Map.

Is there a way to include commas in CSV columns without breaking the formatting?

I found that some applications like Numbers in Mac ignore the double quote if there is space before it.

a, "b,c" doesn't work while a,"b,c" works.

notifyDataSetChange not working from custom adapter

I had the same problem using ListAdapter

I let Android Studio implement methods for me and this is what I got:

public class CustomAdapter implements ListAdapter {
    ...
    @Override
    public void registerDataSetObserver(DataSetObserver observer) {

    }

    @Override
    public void unregisterDataSetObserver(DataSetObserver observer) {

    }
    ...
}

The problem is that these methods do not call super implementations so notifyDataSetChange is never called.

Either remove these overrides manually or add super calls and it should work again.

@Override
public void registerDataSetObserver(DataSetObserver observer) {
    super.registerDataSetObserver(observer);
}

@Override
public void unregisterDataSetObserver(DataSetObserver observer) {
    super.unregisterDataSetObserver(observer);
}

How do you round a number to two decimal places in C#?

// convert upto two decimal places

String.Format("{0:0.00}", 140.6767554);        // "140.67"
String.Format("{0:0.00}", 140.1);             // "140.10"
String.Format("{0:0.00}", 140);              // "140.00"

Double d = 140.6767554;
Double dc = Math.Round((Double)d, 2);       //  140.67

decimal d = 140.6767554M;
decimal dc = Math.Round(d, 2);             //  140.67

=========

// just two decimal places
String.Format("{0:0.##}", 123.4567);      // "123.46"
String.Format("{0:0.##}", 123.4);         // "123.4"
String.Format("{0:0.##}", 123.0);         // "123"

can also combine "0" with "#".

String.Format("{0:0.0#}", 123.4567)       // "123.46"
String.Format("{0:0.0#}", 123.4)          // "123.4"
String.Format("{0:0.0#}", 123.0)          // "123.0"

How to build and run Maven projects after importing into Eclipse IDE

When you add dependency in pom.xml , do a maven clean , and then maven build , it will add the jars into you project.

You can search dependency artifacts at http://mvnrepository.com/

And if it doesn't add jars it should give you errors which will mean that it is not able to fetch the jar, that could be due to broken repository or connection problems.

Well sometimes if it is one or two jars, better download them and add to build path , but with a lot of dependencies use maven.

vbscript output to console

This was found on Dragon-IT Scripts and Code Repository.

You can do this with the following and stay away from the cscript/wscript differences and allows you to get the same console output that a batch file would have. This can help if your calling VBS from a batch file and need to make it look seamless.

Set fso = CreateObject ("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
Set stdout = fso.GetStandardStream (1)
Set stderr = fso.GetStandardStream (2)
stdout.WriteLine "This will go to standard output."
stderr.WriteLine "This will go to error output."

Delete all Duplicate Rows except for One in MySQL?

Editor warning: This solution is computationally inefficient and may bring down your connection for a large table.

NB - You need to do this first on a test copy of your table!

When I did it, I found that unless I also included AND n1.id <> n2.id, it deleted every row in the table.

  1. If you want to keep the row with the lowest id value:

    DELETE n1 FROM names n1, names n2 WHERE n1.id > n2.id AND n1.name = n2.name

  2. If you want to keep the row with the highest id value:

    DELETE n1 FROM names n1, names n2 WHERE n1.id < n2.id AND n1.name = n2.name

I used this method in MySQL 5.1

Not sure about other versions.

Update: Since people Googling for removing duplicates end up here
Although the OP's question is about DELETE, please be advised that using INSERT and DISTINCT is much faster. For a database with 8 million rows, the below query took 13 minutes, while using DELETE, it took more than 2 hours and yet didn't complete.

INSERT INTO tempTableName(cellId,attributeId,entityRowId,value)
    SELECT DISTINCT cellId,attributeId,entityRowId,value
    FROM tableName;

How to create module-wide variables in Python?

Explicit access to module level variables by accessing them explicity on the module

In short: The technique described here is the same as in steveha's answer, except, that no artificial helper object is created to explicitly scope variables. Instead the module object itself is given a variable pointer, and therefore provides explicit scoping upon access from everywhere. (like assignments in local function scope).

Think of it like self for the current module instead of the current instance !

# db.py
import sys

# this is a pointer to the module object instance itself.
this = sys.modules[__name__]

# we can explicitly make assignments on it
this.db_name = None

def initialize_db(name):
    if (this.db_name is None):
        # also in local function scope. no scope specifier like global is needed
        this.db_name = name
        # also the name remains free for local use
        db_name = "Locally scoped db_name variable. Doesn't do anything here."
    else:
        msg = "Database is already initialized to {0}."
        raise RuntimeError(msg.format(this.db_name))

As modules are cached and therefore import only once, you can import db.py as often on as many clients as you want, manipulating the same, universal state:

# client_a.py
import db

db.initialize_db('mongo')
# client_b.py
import db

if (db.db_name == 'mongo'):
    db.db_name = None # this is the preferred way of usage, as it updates the value for all clients, because they access the same reference from the same module object
# client_c.py
from db import db_name
# be careful when importing like this, as a new reference "db_name" will
# be created in the module namespace of client_c, which points to the value
# that "db.db_name" has at import time of "client_c".

if (db_name == 'mongo'):  # checking is fine if "db.db_name" doesn't change
    db_name = None # be careful, because this only assigns the reference client_c.db_name to a new value, but leaves db.db_name pointing to its current value.

As an additional bonus I find it quite pythonic overall as it nicely fits Pythons policy of Explicit is better than implicit.

Prevent BODY from scrolling when a modal is opened

You should add overflow: hidden in HTML for a better cross-platform performance.

I would use

html.no-scroll {
    overflow: hidden;
}

The number of method references in a .dex file cannot exceed 64k API 17

add this to avoid multidex issue for react native or any android project

android {

defaultConfig {
    ...

    // Enabling multidex support.
    multiDexEnabled true
}

}

dependencies {
  implementation 'com.android.support:multidex:1.0.3'  //with support libraries
  //implementation 'androidx.multidex:multidex:2.0.1'  //with androidx libraries

Powershell Log Off Remote Session

Adding plain DOS commands, if someone is so inclined. Yes, this still works for Win 8 and Server 2008 + Server 2012.

Query session /server:Server100

Will return:

What is sys.maxint in Python 3?

The sys.maxint constant was removed, since there is no longer a limit to the value of integers. However, sys.maxsize can be used as an integer larger than any practical list or string index. It conforms to the implementation’s “natural” integer size and is typically the same as sys.maxint in previous releases on the same platform (assuming the same build options).

How to create permanent PowerShell Aliases

This is a little bit fancy... but it works:

Step 1: Create a Powershell Profile:

FILE: install_profile.ps1
# THIS SCRIPT BLOWS AWAY YOUR DEFAULT POWERSHELL PROFILE SCRIPT
# AND INSTALLS A POINTER TO A GLOBAL POWERSHELL PROFILE

$ErrorActionPreference = "Stop"

function print ([string]$msg)
{
    Write-Host -ForegroundColor Green $msg
}

print ""

# User's Powershell Profile
$psdir  = "$env:USERPROFILE\Documents\WindowsPowerShell"
$psfile = $psdir + "\Microsoft.PowerShell_profile.ps1"

print "Creating Directory: $psdir"
md $psdir -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue | out-null

# this is your auto-generated powershell profile to be installed
$content = @(
    "",
    ". ~/Documents/tools/profile.ps1",
    ""
)

print "Creating File: $psfile"
[System.IO.File]::WriteAllLines($psfile, $content)

print ""

# Make sure Powershell profile is readable
Set-ExecutionPolicy -Scope CurrentUser Unrestricted

Step 2: then in tools ~/Documents/tools/profile.ps1:

function Do-ActualThing {
    # do actual thing
}

Set-Alias MyAlias Do-ActualThing

Step 3:

$ Set-ExecutionPolicy -Scope CurrentUser Unrestricted $ . ./install_profile.ps1

Java String.split() Regex

Can you invert your regex so split by the non operation characters?

String ops[] = string.split("[a-z]")
// ops == [+, -, *, /, <, >, >=, <=, == ]

This obviously doesn't return the variables in the array. Maybe you can interleave two splits (one by the operators, one by the variables)

HTML.ActionLink vs Url.Action in ASP.NET Razor

@HTML.ActionLink generates a HTML anchor tag. While @Url.Action generates a URL for you. You can easily understand it by;

// 1. <a href="/ControllerName/ActionMethod">Item Definition</a>
@HTML.ActionLink("Item Definition", "ActionMethod", "ControllerName")

// 2. /ControllerName/ActionMethod
@Url.Action("ActionMethod", "ControllerName")

// 3. <a href="/ControllerName/ActionMethod">Item Definition</a>
<a href="@Url.Action("ActionMethod", "ControllerName")"> Item Definition</a>

Both of these approaches are different and it totally depends upon your need.

How to read all files in a folder from Java?

In Java 7 and higher you can use listdir

Path dir = ...;
try (DirectoryStream<Path> stream = Files.newDirectoryStream(dir)) {
    for (Path file: stream) {
        System.out.println(file.getFileName());
    }
} catch (IOException | DirectoryIteratorException x) {
    // IOException can never be thrown by the iteration.
    // In this snippet, it can only be thrown by newDirectoryStream.
    System.err.println(x);
}

You can also create a filter that can then be passed into the newDirectoryStream method above

DirectoryStream.Filter<Path> filter = new DirectoryStream.Filter<Path>() {
    public boolean accept(Path file) throws IOException {
        try {
            return (Files.isRegularFile(path));
        } catch (IOException x) {
            // Failed to determine if it's a file.
            System.err.println(x);
            return false;
        }
    }
};

For other filtering examples, [see documentation].(http://docs.oracle.com/javase/tutorial/essential/io/dirs.html#glob)

Difference between agile and iterative and incremental development

Agile is mostly used technique in project development.In agile technology peoples are switches from one technology to other ..Main purpose is to remove dependancy. Like Peoples shifted from production to development,and development to testing. Thats why dependancy will remove on a single team or person..

How to split a large text file into smaller files with equal number of lines?

Opening the Settings app from another app

YES!! you can launch Device Settings screen, I have tested on iOS 9.2

Step 1. we need to add URL schemes

Go to Project settings --> Info --> URL Types --> Add New URL Schemes

enter image description here

Step 2. Launch Settings programmatically Thanks to @davidcann

[[UIApplication sharedApplication] openURL:[NSURL URLWithString:@"prefs://"]];

Also we can launch sub-screens like Music, Location etc. as well by just using proper name

[[UIApplication sharedApplication] openURL:[NSURL URLWithString:@"prefs:root=MUSIC"]];

See this full name list here shared by Henri Normak

Update:

As per the comment everyone wants to know what happens after this change to my application submission status?

So YES!! I got successful update submission and application is available on store without any complain.

Just to confirm, I Just downloaded this morning and disabled Location services, and then started the app, which asked me for location permission and then my alert popup was there to send me on settings -> location services page --> Enabled --> That's it!!

![NOTICE: Your app might be rejected ... even if it's approved it can be rejected in future version if you use this method...]4

How can I read and parse CSV files in C++?

Another quick and easy way is to use Boost.Fusion I/O:

#include <iostream>
#include <sstream>

#include <boost/fusion/adapted/boost_tuple.hpp>
#include <boost/fusion/sequence/io.hpp>

namespace fusion = boost::fusion;

struct CsvString
{
    std::string value;

    // Stop reading a string once a CSV delimeter is encountered.
    friend std::istream& operator>>(std::istream& s, CsvString& v) {
        v.value.clear();
        for(;;) {
            auto c = s.peek();
            if(std::istream::traits_type::eof() == c || ',' == c || '\n' == c)
                break;
            v.value.push_back(c);
            s.get();
        }
        return s;
    }

    friend std::ostream& operator<<(std::ostream& s, CsvString const& v) {
        return s << v.value;
    }
};

int main() {
    std::stringstream input("abc,123,true,3.14\n"
                            "def,456,false,2.718\n");

    typedef boost::tuple<CsvString, int, bool, double> CsvRow;

    using fusion::operator<<;
    std::cout << std::boolalpha;

    using fusion::operator>>;
    input >> std::boolalpha;
    input >> fusion::tuple_open("") >> fusion::tuple_close("\n") >> fusion::tuple_delimiter(',');

    for(CsvRow row; input >> row;)
        std::cout << row << '\n';
}

Outputs:

(abc 123 true 3.14)
(def 456 false 2.718)

Jasmine JavaScript Testing - toBe vs toEqual

toBe() versus toEqual(): toEqual() checks equivalence. toBe(), on the other hand, makes sure that they're the exact same object.

I would say use toBe() when comparing values, and toEqual() when comparing objects.

When comparing primitive types, toEqual() and toBe() will yield the same result. When comparing objects, toBe() is a stricter comparison, and if it is not the exact same object in memory this will return false. So unless you want to make sure it's the exact same object in memory, use toEqual() for comparing objects.

Check this link out for more info : http://evanhahn.com/how-do-i-jasmine/

Now when looking at the difference between toBe() and toEqual() when it comes to numbers, there shouldn't be any difference so long as your comparison is correct. 5 will always be equivalent to 5.

A nice place to play around with this to see different outcomes is here

Update

An easy way to look at toBe() and toEqual() is to understand what exactly they do in JavaScript. According to Jasmine API, found here:

toEqual() works for simple literals and variables, and should work for objects

toBe() compares with ===

Essentially what that is saying is toEqual() and toBe() are similar Javascripts === operator except toBe() is also checking to make sure it is the exact same object, in that for the example below objectOne === objectTwo //returns false as well. However, toEqual() will return true in that situation.

Now, you can at least understand why when given:

var objectOne = {
    propertyOne: str,
    propertyTwo: num
}

var objectTwo = {
    propertyOne: str,
    propertyTwo: num
}

expect(objectOne).toBe(objectTwo); //returns false

That is because, as stated in this answer to a different, but similar question, the === operator actually means that both operands reference the same object, or in case of value types, have the same value.

Is it possible to decrypt MD5 hashes?

Yes, exactly what you're asking for is possible. It is not possible to 'decrypt' an MD5 password without help, but it is possible to re-encrypt an MD5 password into another algorithm, just not all in one go.

What you do is arrange for your users to be able to logon to your new system using the old MD5 password. At the point that they login they have given your login program an unhashed version of the password that you prove matches the MD5 hash that you have. You can then convert this unhashed password to your new hashing algorithm.

Obviously, this is an extended process because you have to wait for your users to tell you what the passwords are, but it does work.

(NB: seven years later, oh well hopefully someone will find it useful)

How do I remove diacritics (accents) from a string in .NET?

It's funny such a question can get so many answers, and yet none fit my requirements :) There are so many languages around, a full language agnostic solution is AFAIK not really possible, as others has mentionned that the FormC or FormD are giving issues.

Since the original question was related to French, the simplest working answer is indeed

    public static string ConvertWesternEuropeanToASCII(this string str)
    {
        return Encoding.ASCII.GetString(Encoding.GetEncoding(1251).GetBytes(str));
    }

1251 should be replaced by the encoding code of the input language.

This however replace only one character by one character. Since I am also working with German as input, I did a manual convert

    public static string LatinizeGermanCharacters(this string str)
    {
        StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder(str.Length);
        foreach (char c in str)
        {
            switch (c)
            {
                case 'ä':
                    sb.Append("ae");
                    break;
                case 'ö':
                    sb.Append("oe");
                    break;
                case 'ü':
                    sb.Append("ue");
                    break;
                case 'Ä':
                    sb.Append("Ae");
                    break;
                case 'Ö':
                    sb.Append("Oe");
                    break;
                case 'Ü':
                    sb.Append("Ue");
                    break;
                case 'ß':
                    sb.Append("ss");
                    break;
                default:
                    sb.Append(c);
                    break;
            }
        }
        return sb.ToString();
    }

It might not deliver the best performance, but at least it is very easy to read and extend. Regex is a NO GO, much slower than any char/string stuff.

I also have a very simple method to remove space:

    public static string RemoveSpace(this string str)
    {
        return str.Replace(" ", string.Empty);
    }

Eventually, I am using a combination of all 3 above extensions:

    public static string LatinizeAndConvertToASCII(this string str, bool keepSpace = false)
    {
        str = str.LatinizeGermanCharacters().ConvertWesternEuropeanToASCII();
        return keepSpace ? str : str.RemoveSpace();
    }

And a small unit test to that (not exhaustive) which pass successfully.

    [TestMethod()]
    public void LatinizeAndConvertToASCIITest()
    {
        string europeanStr = "Bonjour ça va? C'est l'été! Ich möchte ä Ä á à â ê é è ë Ë É ï Ï î í ì ó ò ô ö Ö Ü ü ù ú û Û ý Ý ç Ç ñ Ñ";
        string expected = "Bonjourcava?C'estl'ete!IchmoechteaeAeaaaeeeeEEiIiiiooooeOeUeueuuuUyYcCnN";
        string actual = europeanStr.LatinizeAndConvertToASCII();
        Assert.AreEqual(expected, actual);
    }

How to remove a file from the index in git?

According to my humble opinion and my work experience with git, staging area is not the same as index. I may be wrong of course, but as I said, my experience in using git and my logic tell me, that index is a structure that follows your changes to your working area(local repository) that are not excluded by ignoring settings and staging area is to keep files that are already confirmed to be committed, aka files in index on which add command was run on. You don't notice and realize that "slight" difference, because you use git commit -a -m "comment" adding indexed and cached files to stage area and committing in one command or using IDEs like IDEA for that too often. And cache is that what keeps changes in indexed files. If you want to remove file from index that has not been added to staging area before, options proposed before match for you, but... If you have done that already, you will need to use

Git restore --staged <file>

And, please, don't ask me where I was 10 years ago... I missed you, this answer is for further generations)

Insert php variable in a href

echo '<a href="' . $folder_path . '">Link text</a>';

Please note that you must use the path relative to your domain and, if the folder path is outside the public htdocs directory, it will not work.

EDIT: maybe i misreaded the question; you have a file on your pc and want to insert the path on the html page, and then send it to the server?

How to position three divs in html horizontally?

I'd refrain from using floats for this sort of thing; I'd rather use inline-block.

Some more points to consider:

  • Inline styles are bad for maintainability
  • You shouldn't have spaces in selector names
  • You missed some important HTML tags, like <head> and <body>
  • You didn't include a doctype

Here's a better way to format your document:

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<title>Website Title</title>
<style type="text/css">
* {margin: 0; padding: 0;}
#container {height: 100%; width:100%; font-size: 0;}
#left, #middle, #right {display: inline-block; *display: inline; zoom: 1; vertical-align: top; font-size: 12px;}
#left {width: 25%; background: blue;}
#middle {width: 50%; background: green;}
#right {width: 25%; background: yellow;}
</style>
</head>
<body>
<div id="container">
    <div id="left">Left Side Menu</div>
    <div id="middle">Random Content</div>
    <div id="right">Right Side Menu</div>
</div>
</body>
</html>

Here's a jsFiddle for good measure.

Ignore Duplicates and Create New List of Unique Values in Excel

All you have to do is : Go to Data tab Chose advanced in Sort & Filter In actions select : copy to another location if want a new list - Copy to any location In list range chose the list you want to get the records off . And the most important thing is to check : Unique records only .

Reading tab-delimited file with Pandas - works on Windows, but not on Mac

The biggest clue is the rows are all being returned on one line. This indicates line terminators are being ignored or are not present.

You can specify the line terminator for csv_reader. If you are on a mac the lines created will end with \rrather than the linux standard \n or better still the suspenders and belt approach of windows with \r\n.

pandas.read_csv(filename, sep='\t', lineterminator='\r')

You could also open all your data using the codecs package. This may increase robustness at the expense of document loading speed.

import codecs

doc = codecs.open('document','rU','UTF-16') #open for reading with "universal" type set

df = pandas.read_csv(doc, sep='\t')

Angular 2: How to call a function after get a response from subscribe http.post

You can do this be using a new Subject too:

Typescript:

let subject = new Subject();

get_categories(...) {
   this.http.post(...).subscribe(
      (response) => {
         this.total = response.json();
         subject.next();
      }
   );

   return subject; // can be subscribed as well
}

get_categories(...).subscribe(
   (response) => {
     // ...
   }
);

get name of a variable or parameter

Alternatively,

1) Without touching System.Reflection namespace,

GETNAME(new { myInput });

public static string GETNAME<T>(T myInput) where T : class
{
    if (myInput == null)
        return string.Empty;

    return myInput.ToString().TrimStart('{').TrimEnd('}').Split('=')[0].Trim();
}

2) The below one can be faster though (from my tests)

GETNAME(new { variable });
public static string GETNAME<T>(T myInput) where T : class
{
    if (myInput == null)
        return string.Empty;

    return typeof(T).GetProperties()[0].Name;
}

You can also extend this for properties of objects (may be with extension methods):

new { myClass.MyProperty1 }.GETNAME();

You can cache property values to improve performance further as property names don't change during runtime.

The Expression approach is going to be slower for my taste. To get parameter name and value together in one go see this answer of mine

How do I remove a MySQL database?

How to disable the resize grabber of <textarea>?

Just use resize: none

textarea {
   resize: none;
}

You can also decide to resize your textareas only horizontal or vertical, this way:

textarea { resize: vertical; }

textarea { resize: horizontal; }

Finally, resize: both enables the resize grabber.

Are there best practices for (Java) package organization?

Short answer: One package per module/feature, possibly with sub-packages. Put closely related things together in the same package. Avoid circular dependencies between packages.

Long answer: I agree with most of this article

List files ONLY in the current directory

Just use os.listdir and os.path.isfile instead of os.walk.

Example:

import os
files = [f for f in os.listdir('.') if os.path.isfile(f)]
for f in files:
    # do something

But be careful while applying this to other directory, like

files = [f for f in os.listdir(somedir) if os.path.isfile(f)].

which would not work because f is not a full path but relative to the current dir.

Therefore, for filtering on another directory, do os.path.isfile(os.path.join(somedir, f))

(Thanks Causality for the hint)

Any way to return PHP `json_encode` with encode UTF-8 and not Unicode?

This function found here, works fine for me

function jsonRemoveUnicodeSequences($struct) {
   return preg_replace("/\\\\u([a-f0-9]{4})/e", "iconv('UCS-4LE','UTF-8',pack('V', hexdec('U$1')))", json_encode($struct));
}

Why is the minidlna database not being refreshed?

I have recently discovered that minidlna doesn't update the database if the media file is a hardlink. If you want these files to show up in the database, a full rescan is necessary.

ex: If you have a file /home/movies/foo.mkv and a hardlink in /home/minidlna/video/foo.mkv, where '/home/minidlna' is your minidlna share, you will have to do a rescan till that file appears in the db (and subsequently your dlna client).

I'm still trying to find a way around this. If anyone has any input, it's most welcome.

Allowed memory size of 33554432 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 43148176 bytes) in php

I was also having the same problem, looked for phpinfo.ini, php.ini or .htaccess files to no avail. Finally I have looked at some php files, opened them and checked the codes inside for memory. Finally this solution was what I come out with and it worked for me. I was using wordpress, so this solution might only work for wordpress memory size limit problem. My solution, open default-constants.php file in /public_html/wp-includes folder. Open that file with code editor, and find memory settings under wp_initial_constants scope, or just Ctrl+F it to find the word "memory". There you will come over WP_MEMORY_LIMIT and WP_MAX_MEMORY_LIMIT. Just increase it, it was 64 MB in my case, I increased it to 128 MB and then to 200 MB.

// Define memory limits.
if ( ! defined( 'WP_MEMORY_LIMIT' ) ) {
    if ( false === wp_is_ini_value_changeable( 'memory_limit' ) ) {
        define( 'WP_MEMORY_LIMIT', $current_limit );
    } elseif ( is_multisite() ) {
        define( 'WP_MEMORY_LIMIT', '200M' );
    } else {
        define( 'WP_MEMORY_LIMIT', '128M' );
    }
}

if ( ! defined( 'WP_MAX_MEMORY_LIMIT' ) ) {
    if ( false === wp_is_ini_value_changeable( 'memory_limit' ) ) {
        define( 'WP_MAX_MEMORY_LIMIT', $current_limit );
    } elseif ( -1 === $current_limit_int || $current_limit_int > 268435456 /* = 256M */ ) {
        define( 'WP_MAX_MEMORY_LIMIT', $current_limit );
    } else {
        define( 'WP_MAX_MEMORY_LIMIT', '256M' );
    }
}

Btw, please don't do the following code, because that's bad practice:

ini_set('memory_limit', '-1');

How do I implement basic "Long Polling"?

Here are some classes I use for long-polling in C#. There are basically 6 classes (see below).

  1. Controller: Processes actions required to create a valid response (db operations etc.)
  2. Processor: Manages asynch communication with the web page (itself)
  3. IAsynchProcessor: The service processes instances that implement this interface
  4. Sevice: Processes request objects that implement IAsynchProcessor
  5. Request: The IAsynchProcessor wrapper containing your response (object)
  6. Response: Contains custom objects or fields

Is it possible to do a sparse checkout without checking out the whole repository first?

Based on this answer by apenwarr and this comment by Miral I came up with the following solution which saved me nearly 94% of disk space when cloning the linux git repository locally while only wanting one Documentation subdirectory:

$ cd linux
$ du -sh .git .
2.1G    .git
894M    .
$ du -sh
2.9G    .
$ mkdir ../linux-sparse-test
$ cd ../linux-sparse-test
$ git init
Initialized empty Git repository in /…/linux-sparse-test/.git/
$ git config core.sparseCheckout true
$ git remote add origin ../linux
# Parameter "origin master" saves a tiny bit if there are other branches
$ git fetch --depth=1 origin master
remote: Enumerating objects: 65839, done.
remote: Counting objects: 100% (65839/65839), done.
remote: Compressing objects: 100% (61140/61140), done.
remote: Total 65839 (delta 6202), reused 22590 (delta 3703)
Receiving objects: 100% (65839/65839), 173.09 MiB | 10.05 MiB/s, done.
Resolving deltas: 100% (6202/6202), done.
From ../linux
 * branch              master     -> FETCH_HEAD
 * [new branch]        master     -> origin/master
$ echo "Documentation/hid/*" > .git/info/sparse-checkout
$ git checkout master
Branch 'master' set up to track remote branch 'master' from 'origin'.
Already on 'master'
$ ls -l
total 4
drwxr-xr-x 3 abe abe 4096 May  3 14:12 Documentation/
$  du -sh .git .
181M    .git
100K    .
$  du -sh
182M    .

So I got down from 2.9GB to 182MB which is already quiet nice.

I though didn't get this to work with git clone --depth 1 --no-checkout --filter=blob:none file:///…/linux linux-sparse-test (hinted here) as then the missing files were all added as removed files to the index. So if anyone knows the equivalent of git clone --filter=blob:none for git fetch, we can probably save some more megabytes. (Reading the man page of git-rev-list also hints that there is something like --filter=sparse:path=…, but I didn't get that to work either.

(All tried with git 2.20.1 from Debian Buster.)

You can use Load function

Load TableName fullfilepath;

Options for embedding Chromium instead of IE WebBrowser control with WPF/C#

We had exactly the same challenge some time ago. We wanted to go with CEF3 open source library which is WPF-based and supports .NET 3.5.

Firstly, the author of CEF himself listed binding for different languages here.

Secondly, we went ahead with open source .NET CEF3 binding which is called Xilium.CefGlue and had a good success with it. In cases where something is not working as you'd expect, author usually very responsive to the issues opened in build-in bitbucket tracker

So far it has served us well. Author updates his library to support latest CEF3 releases and bug fixes on regular bases.

Adding scroll="no" and style="overflow:hidden" on iframe didn't work, I had to add style="overflow:hidden" on body of html document loaded inside iframe.

How do I view the SQL generated by the Entity Framework?

SQL Management Studio => Tools => SQL Server profiler

File => New Trace...

Use the Template => Blank

Event selection => T-SQL

Lefthandside check for: SP.StmtComplete

Column filters can be used to select a specific ApplicationName or DatabaseName

Start that profile running then trigger the query.

Oracle timestamp data type

Quite simply the number is the precision of the timestamp, the fraction of a second held in the column:

SQL> create table t23

  3   , ts3 timestamp(3)
  4  , ts6 timestamp(6)

Table created.

Note that I'm running on Linux so my TIMESTAMP column actually gives me precision to six places i.e. microseconds. This would also be the case on most (all?) flavours of Unix. On Windows the limit is three places i.e. milliseconds. (Is this still true of the most modern flavours of Windows - citation needed).

As might be expected, the documentation covers this. Find out more.

JavaFX and OpenJDK

Also answering this question:

Where can I get pre-built JavaFX libraries for OpenJDK (Windows)

On Linux its not really a problem, but on Windows its not that easy, especially if you want to distribute the JRE.

You can actually use OpenJFX with OpenJDK 8 on windows, you just have to assemble it yourself:

Download the OpenJDK from here: https://github.com/AdoptOpenJDK/openjdk8-releases/releases/tag/jdk8u172-b11

Download OpenJFX from here: https://github.com/SkyLandTW/OpenJFX-binary-windows/releases/tag/v8u172-b11

copy all the files from the OpenFX zip on top of the JDK, voila, you have an OpenJDK with JavaFX.

Update:

Fortunately from Azul there is now a OpenJDK+OpenJFX build which can be downloaded at their community page: https://www.azul.com/downloads/zulu-community/?&version=java-8-lts&os=windows&package=jdk-fx

read complete file without using loop in java

You can try using Scanner if you are using JDK5 or higher.

Scanner scan = new Scanner(file);
scan.useDelimiter("\\Z");
String content = scan.next();

Or you can also use Guava

String data = Files.toString(new File("path.txt"), Charsets.UTF8);

What's the fastest way to do a bulk insert into Postgres?

PostgreSQL has a guide on how to best populate a database initially, and they suggest using the COPY command for bulk loading rows. The guide has some other good tips on how to speed up the process, like removing indexes and foreign keys before loading the data (and adding them back afterwards).

ServletContext.getRequestDispatcher() vs ServletRequest.getRequestDispatcher()

request.getRequestDispatcher(“url”) means the dispatch is relative to the current HTTP request.Means this is for chaining two servlets with in the same web application Example

RequestDispatcher reqDispObj = request.getRequestDispatcher("/home.jsp");

getServletContext().getRequestDispatcher(“url”) means the dispatch is relative to the root of the ServletContext.Means this is for chaining two web applications with in the same server/two different servers

Example

RequestDispatcher reqDispObj = getServletContext().getRequestDispatcher("/ContextRoot/home.jsp");

How to kill zombie process

A zombie is already dead, so you cannot kill it. To clean up a zombie, it must be waited on by its parent, so killing the parent should work to eliminate the zombie. (After the parent dies, the zombie will be inherited by pid 1, which will wait on it and clear its entry in the process table.) If your daemon is spawning children that become zombies, you have a bug. Your daemon should notice when its children die and wait on them to determine their exit status.

An example of how you might send a signal to every process that is the parent of a zombie (note that this is extremely crude and might kill processes that you do not intend. I do not recommend using this sort of sledge hammer):

# Don't do this. Incredibly risky sledge hammer!
kill $(ps -A -ostat,ppid | awk '/[zZ]/ && !a[$2]++ {print $2}')

How to make the tab character 4 spaces instead of 8 spaces in nano?

For future viewers, there is a line in my /etc/nanorc file close to line 153 that says "set tabsize 8". The word might need to be tabsize instead of tabspace. After I replaced 8 with 4 and uncommented the line, it solved my problem.

nvm keeps "forgetting" node in new terminal session

In my case, another program had added PATH changes to .bashrc

If the other program changed the PATH after nvm's initialisation, then nvm's PATH changes would be forgotten, and we would get the system node on our PATH (or no node).

The solution was to move the nvm setup to the bottom of .bashrc

### BAD .bashrc ###

# NVM initialisation
export NVM_DIR="$HOME/.nvm"
[ -s "$NVM_DIR/nvm.sh" ] && \. "$NVM_DIR/nvm.sh"  # This loads nvm

# Some other program adding to the PATH:
export PATH="$ANT_ROOT:$PATH"

Solution:

### GOOD .bashrc ###

# Some other program adding to the PATH:
export PATH="$ANT_ROOT:$PATH"

# NVM initialisation
export NVM_DIR="$HOME/.nvm"
[ -s "$NVM_DIR/nvm.sh" ] && \. "$NVM_DIR/nvm.sh"  # This loads nvm

(This was with bash 4.2.46 on CentOS. It seems to me like a bug in bash, but I may be mistaken.)

Find empty or NaN entry in Pandas Dataframe

you also do something good:

df.loc[text_empty].index

The results will be the rows which are empty & it's index number.

How can I access localhost from another computer in the same network?

You need to find what your local network's IP of that computer is. Then other people can access to your site by that IP.

You can find your local network's IP by go to Command Prompt or press Windows + R then type in ipconfig. It will give out some information and your local IP should look like 192.168.1.x.

Javascript : Send JSON Object with Ajax?

I struggled for a couple of days to find anything that would work for me as was passing multiple arrays of ids and returning a blob. Turns out if using .NET CORE I'm using 2.1, you need to use [FromBody] and as can only use once you need to create a viewmodel to hold the data.

Wrap up content like below,

var params = {
            "IDs": IDs,
            "ID2s": IDs2,
            "id": 1
        };

In my case I had already json'd the arrays and passed the result to the function

var IDs = JsonConvert.SerializeObject(Model.Select(s => s.ID).ToArray());

Then call the XMLHttpRequest POST and stringify the object

var ajax = new XMLHttpRequest();
ajax.open("POST", '@Url.Action("MyAction", "MyController")', true);
ajax.responseType = "blob";
ajax.setRequestHeader("Content-Type", "application/json;charset=UTF-8");
ajax.onreadystatechange = function () {
    if (this.readyState == 4) {
       var blob = new Blob([this.response], { type: "application/octet-stream" });
       saveAs(blob, "filename.zip");
    }
};

ajax.send(JSON.stringify(params));

Then have a model like this

public class MyModel
{
    public int[] IDs { get; set; }
    public int[] ID2s { get; set; }
    public int id { get; set; }
}

Then pass in Action like

public async Task<IActionResult> MyAction([FromBody] MyModel model)

Use this add-on if your returning a file

<script src="https://cdnjs.cloudflare.com/ajax/libs/FileSaver.js/1.3.3/FileSaver.min.js"></script>

Socket.io + Node.js Cross-Origin Request Blocked

I just wanted to say that after trying a bunch of things, what fixed my CORS problem was simply using an older version of socket.io (version 2.2.0). My package.json file now looks like this:

{
  "name": "current-project",
  "version": "1.0.0",
  "description": "",
  "main": "index.js",
  "scripts": {
    "devStart": "nodemon server.js"
  },
  "author": "",
  "license": "ISC",
  "dependencies": {
    "socket.io": "^2.2.0"
  },
  "devDependencies": {
    "nodemon": "^1.19.0"
  }
}

If you execute npm install with this, you may find that the CORS problem goes away when trying to use socket.io. At least it worked for me.

How to find the Number of CPU Cores via .NET/C#?

One option would be to read the data from the registry. MSDN Article On The Topic: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/microsoft.win32.registry.localmachine(v=vs.71).aspx)

The processors, I believe can be located here, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DESCRIPTION\System\CentralProcessor

    private void determineNumberOfProcessCores()
    {
        RegistryKey rk = Registry.LocalMachine;
        String[] subKeys = rk.OpenSubKey("HARDWARE").OpenSubKey("DESCRIPTION").OpenSubKey("System").OpenSubKey("CentralProcessor").GetSubKeyNames();

        textBox1.Text = "Total number of cores:" + subKeys.Length.ToString();
    }

I am reasonably sure the registry entry will be there on most systems.

Though I would throw my $0.02 in.

How to set Android camera orientation properly?

This solution will work for all versions of Android. You can use reflection in Java to make it work for all Android devices:

Basically you should create a reflection wrapper to call the Android 2.2 setDisplayOrientation, instead of calling the specific method.

The method:

    protected void setDisplayOrientation(Camera camera, int angle){
    Method downPolymorphic;
    try
    {
        downPolymorphic = camera.getClass().getMethod("setDisplayOrientation", new Class[] { int.class });
        if (downPolymorphic != null)
            downPolymorphic.invoke(camera, new Object[] { angle });
    }
    catch (Exception e1)
    {
    }
}

And instead of using camera.setDisplayOrientation(x) use setDisplayOrientation(camera, x) :

    if (Integer.parseInt(Build.VERSION.SDK) >= 8)
        setDisplayOrientation(mCamera, 90);
    else
    {
        if (getResources().getConfiguration().orientation == Configuration.ORIENTATION_PORTRAIT)
        {
            p.set("orientation", "portrait");
            p.set("rotation", 90);
        }
        if (getResources().getConfiguration().orientation == Configuration.ORIENTATION_LANDSCAPE)
        {
            p.set("orientation", "landscape");
            p.set("rotation", 90);

How to resolve symbolic links in a shell script

This is a symlink resolver in Bash that works whether the link is a directory or a non-directory:

function readlinks {(
  set -o errexit -o nounset
  declare n=0 limit=1024 link="$1"

  # If it's a directory, just skip all this.
  if cd "$link" 2>/dev/null
  then
    pwd -P
    return 0
  fi

  # Resolve until we are out of links (or recurse too deep).
  while [[ -L $link ]] && [[ $n -lt $limit ]]
  do
    cd "$(dirname -- "$link")"
    n=$((n + 1))
    link="$(readlink -- "${link##*/}")"
  done
  cd "$(dirname -- "$link")"

  if [[ $n -ge $limit ]]
  then
    echo "Recursion limit ($limit) exceeded." >&2
    return 2
  fi

  printf '%s/%s\n' "$(pwd -P)" "${link##*/}"
)}

Note that all the cd and set stuff takes place in a subshell.

How to initialize a static array?

Nope, no difference. It's just syntactic sugar. Arrays.asList(..) creates an additional list.

What does 'const static' mean in C and C++?

Making it private would still mean it appears in the header. I tend to use "the weakest" way that works. See this classic article by Scott Meyers: http://www.ddj.com/cpp/184401197 (it's about functions, but can be applied here as well).

List<T> or IList<T>

You would because defining an IList or an ICollection would open up for other implementations of your interfaces.

You might want to have an IOrderRepository that defines a collection of orders in either a IList or ICollection. You could then have different kinds of implementations to provide a list of orders as long as they conform to "rules" defined by your IList or ICollection.

Unresponsive KeyListener for JFrame

Hmm.. what class is your constructor for? Probably some class extending JFrame? The window focus should be at the window, of course but I don't think that's the problem.

I expanded your code, tried to run it and it worked - the key presses resulted as print output. (run with Ubuntu through Eclipse):

How can I measure the similarity between two images?

I wonder (and I'm really just throwing the idea out there to be shot down) if something could be derived by subtracting one image from the other, and then compressing the resulting image as a jpeg of gif, and taking the file size as a measure of similarity.

If you had two identical images, you'd get a white box, which would compress really well. The more the images differed, the more complex it would be to represent, and hence the less compressible.

Probably not an ideal test, and probably much slower than necessary, but it might work as a quick and dirty implementation.

Is there a way to get colored text in GitHubflavored Markdown?

You cannot include style directives in GFM.

The most complete documentation/example is "Markdown Cheatsheet", and it illustrates that this element <style> is missing.

If you manage to include your text in one of the GFM elements, then you can play with a github.css stylesheet in order to colors that way, meaning to color using inline CSS style directives, referring to said css stylesheet.

Dynamically adding elements to ArrayList in Groovy

What you actually created with:

MyType[] list = []

Was fixed size array (not list) with size of 0. You can create fixed size array of size for example 4 with:

MyType[] array = new MyType[4]

But there's no add method of course.

If you create list with def it's something like creating this instance with Object (You can read more about def here). And [] creates empty ArrayList in this case.

So using def list = [] you can then append new items with add() method of ArrayList

list.add(new MyType())

Or more groovy way with overloaded left shift operator:

list << new MyType()

Java enum - why use toString instead of name

While most people blindly follow the advice of the javadoc, there are very specific situations where you want to actually avoid toString(). For example, I'm using enums in my Java code, but they need to be serialized to a database, and back again. If I used toString() then I would technically be subject to getting the overridden behavior as others have pointed out.

Additionally one can also de-serialize from the database, for example, this should always work in Java:

MyEnum taco = MyEnum.valueOf(MyEnum.TACO.name());

Whereas this is not guaranteed:

MyEnum taco = MyEnum.valueOf(MyEnum.TACO.toString());

By the way, I find it very odd for the Javadoc to explicitly say "most programmers should". I find very little use-case in the toString of an enum, if people are using that for a "friendly name" that's clearly a poor use-case as they should be using something more compatible with i18n, which would, in most cases, use the name() method.

Calling a Variable from another Class

You need to specify an access modifier for your variable. In this case you want it public.

After this you can use the variable like this.

Setting the character encoding in form submit for Internet Explorer

I've got the same problem here. I have an UTF-8 Page an need to post to an ISO-8859-1 server.

Correct way to set Bearer token with CURL

As at PHP 7.3:

curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_HTTPAUTH, CURLAUTH_BEARER);
curl_setopt($ch,CURLOPT_XOAUTH2_BEARER,$bearerToken);

Run function from the command line

add this snippet to the bottom of your script

def myfunction():
    ...

if __name__ == '__main__':
    globals()[sys.argv[1]]()

You can now call your function by running

python myscript.py myfunction

This works because you are passing the command line argument (a string of the function's name) into locals, a dictionary with a current local symbol table. The parantheses at the end will make the function be called.

update: if you would like the function to accept a parameter from the command line, you can pass in sys.argv[2] like this:

def myfunction(mystring):
    print mystring

if __name__ == '__main__':
    globals()[sys.argv[1]](sys.argv[2])

This way, running python myscript.py myfunction "hello" will output hello.

Why do Python's math.ceil() and math.floor() operations return floats instead of integers?

This totally caught me off guard recently. This is because I've programmed in C since the 1970's and I'm only now learning the fine details of Python. Like this curious behavior of math.floor().

The math library of Python is how you access the C standard math library. And the C standard math library is a collection of floating point numerical functions, like sin(), and cos(), sqrt(). The floor() function in the context of numerical calculations has ALWAYS returned a float. For 50 YEARS now. It's part of the standards for numerical computation. For those of us familiar with the math library of C, we don't understand it to be just "math functions". We understand it to be a collection of floating-point algorithms. It would be better named something like NFPAL - Numerical Floating Point Algorithms Libary. :)

Those of us that understand the history instantly see the python math module as just a wrapper for the long-established C floating-point library. So we expect without a second thought, that math.floor() is the same function as the C standard library floor() which takes a float argument and returns a float value.

The use of floor() as a numerical math concept goes back to 1798 per the Wikipedia page on the subject: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Floor_and_ceiling_functions#Notation

It never has been a computer science covert floating-point to integer storage format function even though logically it's a similar concept.

The floor() function in this context has always been a floating-point numerical calculation as all(most) the functions in the math library. Floating-point goes beyond what integers can do. They include the special values of +inf, -inf, and Nan (not a number) which are all well defined as to how they propagate through floating-point numerical calculations. Floor() has always CORRECTLY preserved values like Nan and +inf and -inf in numerical calculations. If Floor returns an int, it totally breaks the entire concept of what the numerical floor() function was meant to do. math.floor(float("nan")) must return "nan" if it is to be a true floating-point numerical floor() function.

When I recently saw a Python education video telling us to use:

i = math.floor(12.34/3)

to get an integer I laughed to myself at how clueless the instructor was. But before writing a snarkish comment, I did some testing and to my shock, I found the numerical algorithms library in Python was returning an int. And even stranger, what I thought was the obvious answer to getting an int from a divide, was to use:

i = 12.34 // 3

Why not use the built-in integer divide to get the integer you are looking for! From my C background, it was the obvious right answer. But low and behold, integer divide in Python returns a FLOAT in this case! Wow! What a strange upside-down world Python can be.

A better answer in Python is that if you really NEED an int type, you should just be explicit and ask for int in python:

i = int(12.34/3)

Keeping in mind however that floor() rounds towards negative infinity and int() rounds towards zero so they give different answers for negative numbers. So if negative values are possible, you must use the function that gives the results you need for your application.

Python however is a different beast for good reasons. It's trying to address a different problem set than C. The static typing of Python is great for fast prototyping and development, but it can create some very complex and hard to find bugs when code that was tested with one type of objects, like floats, fails in subtle and hard to find ways when passed an int argument. And because of this, a lot of interesting choices were made for Python that put the need to minimize surprise errors above other historic norms.

Changing the divide to always return a float (or some form of non int) was a move in the right direction for this. And in this same light, it's logical to make // be a floor(a/b) function, and not an "int divide".

Making float divide by zero a fatal error instead of returning float("inf") is likewise wise because, in MOST python code, a divide by zero is not a numerical calculation but a programming bug where the math is wrong or there is an off by one error. It's more important for average Python code to catch that bug when it happens, instead of propagating a hidden error in the form of an "inf" which causes a blow-up miles away from the actual bug.

And as long as the rest of the language is doing a good job of casting ints to floats when needed, such as in divide, or math.sqrt(), it's logical to have math.floor() return an int, because if it is needed as a float later, it will be converted correctly back to a float. And if the programmer needed an int, well then the function gave them what they needed. math.floor(a/b) and a//b should act the same way, but the fact that they don't I guess is just a matter of history not yet adjusted for consistency. And maybe too hard to "fix" due to backward compatibility issues. And maybe not that important???

In Python, if you want to write hard-core numerical algorithms, the correct answer is to use NumPy and SciPy, not the built-in Python math module.

import numpy as np

nan = np.float64(0.0) / 0.0    # gives a warning and returns float64 nan

nan = np.floor(nan)            # returns float64 nan

Python is different, for good reasons, and it takes a bit of time to understand it. And we can see in this case, the OP, who didn't understand the history of the numerical floor() function, needed and expected it to return an int from their thinking about mathematical integers and reals. Now Python is doing what our mathematical (vs computer science) training implies. Which makes it more likely to do what a beginner expects it to do while still covering all the more complex needs of advanced numerical algorithms with NumPy and SciPy. I'm constantly impressed with how Python has evolved, even if at times I'm totally caught off guard.

How to get the public IP address of a user in C#

For Web Applications ( ASP.NET MVC and WebForm )

/// <summary>
/// Get current user ip address.
/// </summary>
/// <returns>The IP Address</returns>
public static string GetUserIPAddress()
{
    var context = System.Web.HttpContext.Current;
    string ip = String.Empty;

    if (context.Request.ServerVariables["HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR"] != null)
        ip = context.Request.ServerVariables["HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR"].ToString();
    else if (!String.IsNullOrWhiteSpace(context.Request.UserHostAddress))
        ip = context.Request.UserHostAddress;

    if (ip == "::1")
        ip = "127.0.0.1";

    return ip;
}

For Windows Applications ( Windows Form, Console, Windows Service , ... )

    static void Main(string[] args)
    {
        HTTPGet req = new HTTPGet();
        req.Request("http://checkip.dyndns.org");
        string[] a = req.ResponseBody.Split(':');
        string a2 = a[1].Substring(1);
        string[] a3=a2.Split('<');
        string a4 = a3[0];
        Console.WriteLine(a4);
        Console.ReadLine();

C# ASP.NET MVC Return to Previous Page

Here is just another option you couold apply for ASP NET MVC.

Normally you shoud use BaseController class for each Controller class.

So inside of it's constructor method do following.

public class BaseController : Controller
{
        public BaseController()
        {
            // get the previous url and store it with view model
            ViewBag.PreviousUrl = System.Web.HttpContext.Current.Request.UrlReferrer;
        }
}

And now in ANY view you can do like

<button class="btn btn-success mr-auto" onclick="  window.location.href = '@ViewBag.PreviousUrl'; " style="width:2.5em;"><i class="fa fa-angle-left"></i></button>

Enjoy!

Get class list for element with jQuery

You can use document.getElementById('divId').className.split(/\s+/); to get you an array of class names.

Then you can iterate and find the one you want.

var classList = document.getElementById('divId').className.split(/\s+/);
for (var i = 0; i < classList.length; i++) {
    if (classList[i] === 'someClass') {
        //do something
    }
}

jQuery does not really help you here...

var classList = $('#divId').attr('class').split(/\s+/);
$.each(classList, function(index, item) {
    if (item === 'someClass') {
        //do something
    }
});
