Gradle does not find tools.jar

I got the same error using Eclipse trying to execute a Gradle Task. Every time I run a command (i.e. war) the process threw an exception like:

Could not find tools.jar. Please check that C:\Program Files\Java\Jre8" is a valid JDK install.

I tried the solution listed in this post but none of them solved this issue. Here my solution :

  1. Go to the "Gradle Task" view
  2. Right Click on the task you want to execute
  3. Select Open Gradle Run Configuration
  4. In the tab "Java Home" select your local JDK repository then click OK

Run again, Enjoy!

How to extract the decimal part from a floating point number in C?

I think that using string is the correct way to go in this case, since you don't know a priori the number of digits in the decimal part. But, it won't work for all cases (e.g. 1.005), as mentioned before by @SingleNegationElimination. Here is my take on this:

#include <stdio.h>
#include <stdlib.h>

int main(void)
{
    char s_value[60], s_integral[60], s_fractional[60];
    int i, found = 0, count = 1, integral, fractional;

    scanf("%s", s_value);

    for (i = 0; s_value[i] != '\0'; i++)
    {
        if (!found)
        {
            if (s_value[i] == '.')
            {
                found = 1;
                s_integral[i] = '\0';
                continue;
            }
            s_integral[i] = s_value[i];
            count++;
        }
        else
            s_fractional[i - count] = s_value[i];
    }
    s_fractional[i - count] = '\0';

    integral = atoi(s_integral);
    fractional = atoi(s_fractional);
    printf("value = %s, integral = %d, fractional = %d\n",
        s_value, integral, fractional);

    return 0;
}

ASP.NET MVC: No parameterless constructor defined for this object

You need the action that corresponds to the controller to not have a parameter.

Looks like for the controller / action combination you have:

public ActionResult Action(int parameter)
{

}

but you need

public ActionResult Action()
{

}

Also, check out Phil Haack's Route Debugger to troubleshoot routes.

Variable's memory size in Python

Use sys.getsizeof to get the size of an object, in bytes.

>>> from sys import getsizeof
>>> a = 42
>>> getsizeof(a)
12
>>> a = 2**1000
>>> getsizeof(a)
146
>>>

Note that the size and layout of an object is purely implementation-specific. CPython, for example, may use totally different internal data structures than IronPython. So the size of an object may vary from implementation to implementation.

What port is used by Java RMI connection?

In RMI, with regards to ports there are two distinct mechanisms involved:

  1. By default, the RMI Registry uses port 1099

  2. Client and server (stubs, remote objects) communicate over random ports unless a fixed port has been specified when exporting a remote object. The communcation is started via a socket factory which uses 0 as starting port, which means use any port that's available between 1 and 65535.

How to overwrite styling in Twitter Bootstrap

If you want to overwrite any css in bootstrap use !important

Let's say here is the page header class in bootstrap which have 40px margin on top, my client don't like it and he want it to be 15 on top and 10 on bottom only

.page-header {
    border-bottom: 1px solid #EEEEEE;
    margin: 40px 0 20px;
    padding-bottom: 9px;
}

So I added on class in my site.css file with the same name like this

.page-header
{
    padding-bottom: 9px;
    margin: 15px 0 10px 0px !important;
}

Note the !important with my margin, which will overwrite the margin of bootstarp page-header class margin.

HTTP Status 404 - The requested resource (/) is not available

I had the same problem with my localhost project using Eclipse Luna, Maven and Tomcat - the Tomcat homepage would appear fine, however my project would get the 404 error.

After trying many suggested solutions (updating spring .jar file, changing properties of the Tomcat server, add/remove project, change JRE from 1.6 to 7 etc) which did not fix the issue, what worked for me was to just Refresh my project. It seems Eclipse does not automatically refresh the project after a (Maven) build. In Eclipse 3.3.1 there was a 'Refresh Automatically' option under Preferences > General > Workspace however that option doesn't look to be in Luna.

  1. Maven clean-install on the project.
  2. ** Right-click the project and select 'Refresh'. **
  3. Right-click the Eclipse Tomcat server and select 'Clean'.
  4. Right-click > Publish and then start the Tomcat server.

Which mime type should I use for mp3

The standard way is to use audio/mpeg which is something like this in your PHP header function ...

header('Content-Type: audio/mpeg');

SQL - select distinct only on one column

Since you don't care, I chose the max ID for each number.

select tbl.* from tbl
inner join (
select max(id) as maxID, number from tbl group by number) maxID
on maxID.maxID = tbl.id

Query Explanation

 select
    tbl.* -- give me all the data from the base table (tbl)
 from
    tbl
    inner join ( -- only return rows in tbl which match this subquery
        select
            max(id) as maxID -- MAX (ie distinct) ID per GROUP BY below
        from
            tbl
        group by
            NUMBER -- how to group rows for the MAX aggregation
    ) maxID
        on maxID.maxID = tbl.id -- join condition ie only return rows in tbl
                                -- whose ID is also a MAX ID for a given NUMBER

T-SQL: Looping through an array of known values

Make a connection to your DB using a procedural programming language (here Python), and do the loop there. This way you can do complicated loops as well.

# make a connection to your db
import pyodbc
conn = pyodbc.connect('''
                        Driver={ODBC Driver 13 for SQL Server};
                        Server=serverName;
                        Database=DBname;
                        UID=userName;
                        PWD=password;
                      ''')
cursor = conn.cursor()

# run sql code
for id in [4, 7, 12, 22, 19]:
  cursor.execute('''
    exec p_MyInnerProcedure {}
  '''.format(id))

gnuplot - adjust size of key/legend

To adjust the length of the samples:

set key samplen X

(default is 4)

To adjust the vertical spacing of the samples:

set key spacing X

(default is 1.25)

and (for completeness), to adjust the fontsize:

set key font "<face>,<size>"

(default depends on the terminal)

And of course, all these can be combined into one line:

set key samplen 2 spacing .5 font ",8"

Note that you can also change the position of the key using set key at <position> or any one of the pre-defined positions (which I'll just defer to help key at this point)

bootstrap 3 wrap text content within div for horizontal alignment

1) Maybe oveflow: hidden; will do the trick?

2) You need to set the size of each div with the text and button so that each of these divs have the same height. Then for your button:

button {
  position: absolute;
  bottom: 0;
}

Separators for Navigation

If there isn't a pressing need to use images for the separators, you could do this with pure CSS.

nav li + li:before{
    content: " | ";
    padding: 0 10px;
}

This puts a bar between each list item, just as the image in the original question described. But since we're using the adjacent selectors, it doesn't put the bar before the first element. And since we're using the :before pseudo selector, it doesn't put one at the end.

Android background music service

i had problem to run it and i make some changes to run it with mp3 source. here is BackfrounSoundService.java file. consider that my mp3 file is in my sdcard in my phone .

public class BackgroundSoundService extends Service {
    private static final String TAG = null;
    MediaPlayer player;

    public IBinder onBind(Intent arg0) {

        return null;
    }

    @Override
    public void onCreate() {
        super.onCreate();
        Log.d("service", "onCreate");
        player = new MediaPlayer();
        try {
            player.setDataSource(Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory().getAbsolutePath() + "/your file.mp3");
        } catch (IOException e) {
            e.printStackTrace();
        }
        player.setLooping(true); // Set looping
        player.setVolume(100, 100);

    }

    public int onStartCommand(Intent intent, int flags, int startId) {
        Log.d("service", "onStartCommand");
        try {
            player.prepare();
            player.start();
        } catch (IOException e) {
            e.printStackTrace();
        }
        return 1;
    }

    public void onStart(Intent intent, int startId) {
        // TO DO

    }

    @Override
    public void onLowMemory() {

try/catch with InputMismatchException creates infinite loop

@Limp, your answer is right, just use .nextLine() while reading the input. Sample code:

    do {
        try {
            System.out.println("Enter first num: ");
            n1 = Integer.parseInt(input.nextLine());
            System.out.println("Enter second num: ");
            n2 = Integer.parseInt(input.nextLine());
            nQuotient = n1 / n2;
            bError = false;
        } catch (Exception e) {
            System.out.println("Error!");
        }
    } while (bError);

    System.out.printf("%d/%d = %d", n1, n2, nQuotient);

Read the description of why this problem was caused in the link below. Look for the answer I posted for the detail in this thread. Java Homework user input issue

Ok, I will briefly describe it. When you read input using nextInt(), you just read the number part but the ENDLINE character was still on the stream. That was the main cause. Now look at the code above, all I did is read the whole line and parse it , it still throws the exception and work the way you were expecting it to work. Rest of your code works fine.

Android - Spacing between CheckBox and text

As you probably use a drawable selector for your android:button property you need to add android:constantSize="true" and/or specify a default drawable like this:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<selector xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:constantSize="true">
  <item android:drawable="@drawable/check_on" android:state_checked="true"/>
  <item android:drawable="@drawable/check_off"/>
</selector>

After that you need to specify android:paddingLeft attribute in your checkbox xml.

Cons:

In the layout editor you will the text going under the checkbox with api 16 and below, in that case you can fix it by creating you custom checkbox class like suggested but for api level 16.

Rationale:

it is a bug as StateListDrawable#getIntrinsicWidth() call is used internally in CompoundButton but it may return < 0 value if there is no current state and no constant size is used.

How to get enum value by string or int

No, you don't want a generic method. This is much easier:

MyEnum myEnum = (MyEnum)myInt;

MyEnum myEnum = (MyEnum)Enum.Parse(typeof(MyEnum), myString);

I think it will also be faster.

JSON.Parse,'Uncaught SyntaxError: Unexpected token o

Your last example is invalid JSON. Single quotes are not allowed in JSON except inside strings. In the second example, the single quotes are not in the string, but serve to show the start and end.

See http://www.json.org/ for the specifications.

Should add: Why do you think this: "like I seem to need to in my real code"? Then maybe we can help you come up with the solution.

How do I set proxy for chrome in python webdriver?

This worked for me like a charm:

proxy = "localhost:8080"
desired_capabilities = webdriver.DesiredCapabilities.CHROME.copy()
desired_capabilities['proxy'] = {
    "httpProxy": proxy,
    "ftpProxy": proxy,
    "sslProxy": proxy,
    "noProxy": None,
    "proxyType": "MANUAL",
    "class": "org.openqa.selenium.Proxy",
    "autodetect": False
}

How to print React component on click of a button?

First want to credit @emil-ingerslev for an awesome answer. I tested it and it worked perfectly. There were two things however I wanted to improve.

  1. I didn't like having to already have <iframe id="ifmcontentstoprint" style="height: 0px; width: 0px; position: absolute"></iframe> already in the dom tree.
  2. I wanted to create a way to make it reusable.

I hope this makes others happy and saves a few minutes of life. Now go take those extra minutes and do something nice for someone.

function printPartOfPage(elementId, uniqueIframeId){
    const content = document.getElementById(elementId)
    let pri
    if (document.getElementById(uniqueIframeId)) {
        pri = document.getElementById(uniqueIframeId).contentWindow
    } else {
        const iframe = document.createElement('iframe')
        iframe.setAttribute('title', uniqueIframeId)
        iframe.setAttribute('id', uniqueIframeId)
        iframe.setAttribute('style', 'height: 0px; width: 0px; position: absolute;')
        document.body.appendChild(iframe)
        pri = iframe.contentWindow
    }
    pri.document.open()
    pri.document.write(content.innerHTML)
    pri.document.close()
    pri.focus()
    pri.print()
}

EDIT 2019-7-23: After using this more, this does have the downside that it doesn't perfectly render react components. This worked for me when the styling was inline but not when handled by styled-components or some other situations. If I come up with a foolproof method I will update.

Adding elements to an xml file in C#

If you want to add an attribute, and not an element, you have to say so:

XElement root = new XElement("Snippet");
root.Add(new XAttribute("name", "name goes here"));
root.Add(new XElement("SnippetCode", "SnippetCode"));

The code above produces the following XML element:

<Snippet name="name goes here">
  <SnippetCode>SnippetCode</SnippetCode>
</Snippet>

Propagation Delay vs Transmission delay

Obviously , packet length * propagation delay = trasmission delay is wrong.

Let us assume that you have a packet which has 4 bits 1010.You have to send it from A to B.

For this scenario,Transmission delay is the time taken by the sender to place the packet on the link(Transmission medium).Because the bits(1010) has to be converted in to signals.So it takes some time.Note that here only the packet is placed.It is not moving to receiver.

Propagation delay is the time taken by a bit(Mostly MSB ,Here 1) to reach from sender(A) to receiver(B).

This happened to me when I upgraded. I had to downgrade back.

Check if SQL Connection is Open or Closed

This code is a little more defensive, before opening a connection, check state. If connection state is Broken then we should try to close it. Broken means that the connection was previously opened and not functioning correctly. The second condition determines that connection state must be closed before attempting to open it again so the code can be called repeatedly.

// Defensive database opening logic.

if (_databaseConnection.State == ConnectionState.Broken) {
    _databaseConnection.Close();
}

if (_databaseConnection.State == ConnectionState.Closed) {
    _databaseConnection.Open();
}

java.lang.IllegalAccessError: tried to access method

This happens when accessing a package scoped method of a class that is in the same package but is in a different jar and classloader.

This was my source, but the link is now broken. Following is full text from google cache:

Packages (as in package access) are scoped per ClassLoader.

You state that the parent ClassLoader loads the interface and the child ClassLoader loads the implementation. This won't work because of the ClassLoader-specific nature of package scoping. The interface isn't visible to the implementation class because, even though it's the same package name, they're in different ClassLoaders.

I only skimmed the posts in this thread, but I think you've already discovered that this will work if you declare the interface to be public. It would also work to have both interface and implementation loaded by the same ClassLoader.

Really, if you expect arbitrary folks to implement the interface (which you apparently do if the implementation is being loaded by a different ClassLoader), then you should make the interface public.

The ClassLoader-scoping of package scope (which applies to accessing package methods, variables, etc.) is similar to the general ClassLoader-scoping of class names. For example, I can define two classes, both named com.foo.Bar, with entirely different implementation code if I define them in separate ClassLoaders.

How to solve error: "Clock skew detected"?

I am going to answer my own question.

I added the following lines of code to my Makefile and it fixed the "clock skew" problem:

clean:
    find . -type f | xargs touch
    rm -rf $(OBJS)

How to execute UNION without sorting? (SQL)

How to add text inside the doughnut chart using Chart.js?

Alesana's solution works very nicely for me in general, but like others, I wanted to be able to specify where line breaks occur. I made some simple modifications to wrap lines at '\n' characters, as long as the text is already being wrapped. A more complete solution would force wrapping if there are any '\n' characters in the text, but I don't have time at the moment to make that work with font sizing. The change also centers a little better horizontally when wrapping (avoids trailing spaces). The code's below (I can't post comments yet).

It would be cool if someone put this plug-in on GitHub...

Chart.pluginService.register({
  beforeDraw: function(chart) {
    if (chart.config.options.elements.center) {
      // Get ctx from string
      var ctx = chart.chart.ctx;

      // Get options from the center object in options
      var centerConfig = chart.config.options.elements.center;
      var fontStyle = centerConfig.fontStyle || 'Arial';
      var txt = centerConfig.text;
      var color = centerConfig.color || '#000';
      var maxFontSize = centerConfig.maxFontSize || 75;
      var sidePadding = centerConfig.sidePadding || 20;
      var sidePaddingCalculated = (sidePadding / 100) * (chart.innerRadius * 2)
      // Start with a base font of 30px
      ctx.font = "30px " + fontStyle;

      // Get the width of the string and also the width of the element minus 10 to give it 5px side padding
      var stringWidth = ctx.measureText(txt).width;
      var elementWidth = (chart.innerRadius * 2) - sidePaddingCalculated;

      // Find out how much the font can grow in width.
      var widthRatio = elementWidth / stringWidth;
      var newFontSize = Math.floor(30 * widthRatio);
      var elementHeight = (chart.innerRadius * 2);

      // Pick a new font size so it will not be larger than the height of label.
      var fontSizeToUse = Math.min(newFontSize, elementHeight, maxFontSize);

      ctx.fillStyle = color;

        return;
      }

      var chunks = txt.split('\n');
      for (var m = 0; m < chunks.length; m++) {
        var words = chunks[m].split(' ');
        var line;

        // Break words up into multiple lines if necessary
        for (var n = 0; n < words.length; n++) {
          var testLine = (n == 0) ? words[n] : line + ' ' + words[n];
          var metrics = ctx.measureText(testLine);

Change hash without reload in jQuery

The accepted answer didn't work for me as my page jumped slightly on click, messing up my scroll animation.

I decided to update the entire URL using window.history.replaceState rather than using the window.location.hash method. Thus circumventing the hashChange event fired by the browser.

// Only fire when URL has anchor
$('a[href*="#"]:not([href="#"])').on('click', function(event) {

    // Prevent default anchor handling (which causes the page-jumping)
    event.preventDefault();

    if ( location.pathname.replace(/^\//,'') == this.pathname.replace(/^\//,'') && location.hostname == this.hostname ) {
        var target = $(this.hash);
        target = target.length ? target : $('[name=' + this.hash.slice(1) +']');

        if ( target.length ) {
            // Smooth scrolling to anchor
            $('html, body').animate({
                scrollTop: target.offset().top
            }, 1000);

            // Update URL
            window.history.replaceState("", document.title, window.location.href.replace(location.hash, "") + this.hash);
        }
    }
});

How do I handle a click anywhere in the page, even when a certain element stops the propagation?

If you make sure that this is the first event handler work, something like this might do the trick:

$('*').click(function(event) {
    if (this === event.target) { // only fire this handler on the original element
        alert('clicked');
    }
});

Note that, if you have lots of elements in your page, this will be Really Very Slow, and it won't work for anything added dynamically.

IE11 meta element Breaks SVG

After trying the other suggestions to no avail I discovered that this issue was related to styling for me. I don't know a lot about the why but I found that my SVGs were not visible because they were not holding their place in the DOM.

In essence, the containers around my SVGs were at width: 0 and overflow: hidden.

I fixed this by setting a width on the containers but it is possible that there is a more direct solution to that particular issue.

How to pass table value parameters to stored procedure from .net code

The cleanest way to work with it. Assuming your table is a list of integers called "dbo.tvp_Int" (Customize for your own table type)

Create this extension method...

public static void AddWithValue_Tvp_Int(this SqlParameterCollection paramCollection, string parameterName, List<int> data)
{
   if(paramCollection != null)
   {
       var p = paramCollection.Add(parameterName, SqlDbType.Structured);
       p.TypeName = "dbo.tvp_Int";
       DataTable _dt = new DataTable() {Columns = {"Value"}};
       data.ForEach(value => _dt.Rows.Add(value));
       p.Value = _dt;
   }
}

Now you can add a table valued parameter in one line anywhere simply by doing this:

cmd.Parameters.AddWithValueFor_Tvp_Int("@IDValues", listOfIds);

Insecure content in iframe on secure page

Based on generality of this question, I think, that you'll need to setup your own HTTPS proxy on some server online. Do the following steps:

  • Prepare your proxy server - install IIS, Apache
  • Get valid SSL certificate to avoid security errors (free from startssl.com for example)
  • Write a wrapper, which will download insecure content (how to below)
  • From your site/app get https://yourproxy.com/?page=http://insecurepage.com

If you simply download remote site content via file_get_contents or similiar, you can still have insecure links to content. You'll have to find them with regex and also replace. Images are hard to solve, but Ï found workaround here: http://foundationphp.com/tutorials/image_proxy.php

Note: While this solution may have worked in some browsers when it was written in 2014, it no longer works. Navigating or redirecting to an HTTP URL in an iframe embedded in an HTTPS page is not permitted by modern browsers, even if the frame started out with an HTTPS URL.

The best solution I created is to simply use google as the ssl proxy...

https://www.google.com/search?q=%http://yourhttpsite.com&btnI=Im+Feeling+Lucky

Tested and works in firefox.

Other Methods:

  • Use a Third party such as embed.ly (but it it really only good for well known http APIs).

  • Create your own redirect script on an https page you control (a simple javascript redirect on a relative linked page should do the trick. Something like: (you can use any langauge/method)

    https://example.com That has a iframe linking to...

    https://example.com/utilities/redirect.html Which has a simple js redirect script like...

    document.location.href ="http://thenonsslsite.com";

  • Alternatively, you could add an RSS feed or write some reader/parser to read the http site and display it within your https site.

  • You could/should also recommend to the http site owner that they create an ssl connection. If for no other reason than it increases seo.

Unless you can get the http site owner to create an ssl certificate, the most secure and permanent solution would be to create an RSS feed grabing the content you need (presumably you are not actually 'doing' anything on the http site -that is to say not logging in to any system).

The real issue is that having http elements inside a https site represents a security issue. There are no completely kosher ways around this security risk so the above are just current work arounds.

Note, that you can disable this security measure in most browsers (yourself, not for others). Also note that these 'hacks' may become obsolete over time.

android View not attached to window manager

:after and :before pseudo-element selectors in Sass

Use ampersand to specify the parent selector.

SCSS syntax:

p {
    margin: 2em auto;

    > a {
        color: red;
    }

    &:before {
        content: "";
    }

    &:after {
        content: "* * *";
    }
}

How to import a SQL Server .bak file into MySQL?

In this problem, the answer is not updated in a timely. So it's happy to say that in 2020 Migrating to MsSQL into MySQL is that much easy. An online converter like RebaseData will do your job with one click. You can just upload your .bak file which is from MsSQL and convert it into .sql format which is readable to MySQL.

Additional note: This can not only convert your .bak files but also this site is for all types of Database migrations that you want.

Using scanner.nextLine()

Rather than placing an extra scanner.nextLine() each time you want to read something, since it seems you want to accept each input on a new line, you might want to instead changing the delimiter to actually match only newlines (instead of any whitespace, as is the default)

import java.util.Scanner;

class ScannerTest {
    public static void main(String[] args) {
        Scanner scanner = new Scanner(System.in);
        scanner.useDelimiter("\\n");

        System.out.print("Enter an index: ");
        int index = scanner.nextInt();

        System.out.print("Enter a sentence: ");
        String sentence = scanner.next();

        System.out.println("\nYour sentence: " + sentence);
        System.out.println("Your index: " + index);
    }
}

Thus, to read a line of input, you only need scanner.next() that has the same behavior delimiter-wise of next{Int, Double, ...}

The difference with the "nextLine() every time" approach, is that the latter will accept, as an index also <space>3, 3<space> and 3<space>whatever while the former only accepts 3 on a line on its own

How to delete parent element using jQuery

Delete parent:

$(document).on("click", ".remove", function() {

});

Delete all parents:

$(document).on("click", ".remove", function() {
       $(this).parents().remove();
});

Getting the filenames of all files in a folder

Here's how to look in the documentation.

First, you're dealing with IO, so look in the java.io package.

There are two classes that look interesting: FileFilter and FileNameFilter. When I clicked on the first, it showed me that there was a a listFiles() method in the File class. And the documentation for that method says:

Returns an array of abstract pathnames denoting the files in the directory denoted by this abstract pathname.

Scrolling up in the File JavaDoc, I see the constructors. And that's really all I need to be able to create a File instance and call listFiles() on it. Scrolling still further, I can see some information about how files are named in different operating systems.

Function that creates a timestamp in c#

I always use something like the following:

public static String GetTimestamp(this DateTime value)
{
    return value.ToString("yyyyMMddHHmmssfff");
}

This will give you a string like 200905211035131468, as the string goes from highest order bits of the timestamp to lowest order simple string sorting in your SQL queries can be used to order by date if you're sticking values in a database

Remove duplicate rows in MySQL

A solution that is simple to understand and works with no primary key:

1) add a new boolean column

alter table mytable add tokeep boolean;

2) add a constraint on the duplicated columns AND the new column

alter table mytable add constraint preventdupe unique (mycol1, mycol2, tokeep);

3) set the boolean column to true. This will succeed only on one of the duplicated rows because of the new constraint

update ignore mytable set tokeep = true;

4) delete rows that have not been marked as tokeep

delete from mytable where tokeep is null;

5) drop the added column

alter table mytable drop tokeep;

I suggest that you keep the constraint you added, so that new duplicates are prevented in the future.

JavaScript inside an <img title="<a href='#' onClick='alert('Hello World!')>The Link</a>" /> possible?

Im my browser, this doesn't work at all. The tooltip field doesn't show a link, but <a href='#' onClick='alert('Hello World!')>The Link</a>. I'm using FF 3.6.12.

You'll have to do this by hand with JS and CSS. Begin here

MS SQL Date Only Without Time

DATEADD(d, 0, DATEDIFF(d, 0, [tstamp]))

Edit: While this will remove the time portion of your datetime, it will also make the condition non SARGable. If that's important for this query, an indexed view or a between clause is more appropriate.

How to get Current Directory?

GetCurrentDirectory() gets the current directory which is where the exe is invoked from. To get the location of the exe, use GetModuleFileName(NULL ...). if you have the handle to the exe, or you can derive it from GetCommandLine() if you don't.

As Mr. Butterworth points out, you don't need a handle.

How to put labels over geom_bar for each bar in R with ggplot2

To add to rcs' answer, if you want to use position_dodge() with geom_bar() when x is a POSIX.ct date, you must multiply the width by 86400, e.g.,

ggplot(data=dat, aes(x=Types, y=Number, fill=sample)) +
 geom_bar(position = "dodge", stat = 'identity') +
 geom_text(aes(label=Number), position=position_dodge(width=0.9*86400), vjust=-0.25)

Is there a Max function in SQL Server that takes two values like Math.Max in .NET?

Try this. It can handle more than 2 values

SELECT Max(v) FROM (VALUES (1), (2), (3)) AS value(v)

Unicode character in PHP string

I wonder why no one has mentioned this yet, but you can do an almost equivalent version using escape sequences in double quoted strings:

\x[0-9A-Fa-f]{1,2}

The sequence of characters matching the regular expression is a character in hexadecimal notation.

ASCII example:

<?php
    echo("\x48\x65\x6C\x6C\x6F\x20\x57\x6F\x72\x6C\x64\x21");
?>

Hello World!

So for your case, all you need to do is $str = "\x30\xA2";. But these are bytes, not characters. The byte representation of the Unicode codepoint coincides with UTF-16 big endian, so we could print it out directly as such:

<?php
    header('content-type:text/html;charset=utf-16be');
    echo("\x30\xA2");
?>

?

If you are using a different encoding, you'll need alter the bytes accordingly (mostly done with a library, though possible by hand too).

UTF-16 little endian example:

<?php
    header('content-type:text/html;charset=utf-16le');
    echo("\xA2\x30");
?>

?

UTF-8 example:

<?php
    header('content-type:text/html;charset=utf-8');
    echo("\xE3\x82\xA2");
?>

?

There is also the pack function, but you can expect it to be slow.

UIView touch event in controller

Updating @Crashalot's answer for Swift 3.x:

override func touchesBegan(_ touches: Set<UITouch>, with event: UIEvent?) {
    if let touch = touches.first {
        let currentPoint = touch.location(in: self)
        // do something with your currentPoint
    }
}

override func touchesMoved(_ touches: Set<UITouch>, with event: UIEvent?) {
    if let touch = touches.first {
        let currentPoint = touch.location(in: self)
        // do something with your currentPoint
    }
}

override func touchesEnded(_ touches: Set<UITouch>, with event: UIEvent?) {
    if let touch = touches.first {
        let currentPoint = touch.location(in: self)
        // do something with your currentPoint
    }

Python using enumerate inside list comprehension

All great answer guys. I know the question here is specific to enumeration but how about something like this, just another perspective

from itertools import izip, count
a = ["5", "6", "1", "2"]
tupleList = list( izip( count(), a ) )
print(tupleList)

It becomes more powerful, if one has to iterate multiple lists in parallel in terms of performance. Just a thought

a = ["5", "6", "1", "2"]
b = ["a", "b", "c", "d"]
tupleList = list( izip( count(), a, b ) )
print(tupleList)

Whew. That was a lot for a "sample" but I feel it really drives home the effect and point: we can certainly select a label for a checked input control without it being a sibling. The secret lies in keeping the input tags a child to only what they need to be (in this case - only the body element).

Since the label element doesn't actually utilize the :checked pseudo selector, it doesn't matter that the labels are stored in the header. It does have the added benefit that since the header is a sibling element we can use the ~ generic sibling selector to move from the input[type=radio]:checked DOM element to the header container and then use descendant/child selectors to access the labels themselves, allowing the ability to style them when their respective radio boxes/checkboxes are selected.

Not only can we style the labels, but also style other content that may be descendants of a sibling container relative to all of the inputs. And now for the moment you've all been waiting for, the JSFIDDLE! Go there, play with it, make it work for you, find out why it works, break it, do what you do!

Hopefully that all makes sense and fully answers the question and possibly any follow ups that may crop up.

That's because abc is undefined at the moment of the template rendering. You can use safe navigation operator (?) to "protect" template until HTTP call is completed:

You can read more about safe navigation operator here.

Update:

Safe navigation operator can't be used in arrays, you will have to take advantage of NgIf directive to overcome this problem:

<div *ngIf="arr && arr.length > 0">
    {{arr[0].name}}
</div>

Read more about NgIf directive here.

Entity Framework Migrations renaming tables and columns

If you don't like writing/changing the required code in the Migration class manually, you can follow a two-step approach which automatically make the RenameColumn code which is required:

Step One Use the ColumnAttribute to introduce the new column name and then add-migration (e.g. Add-Migration ColumnChanged)

public class ReportPages
{
    [Column("Section_Id")]                 //Section_Id
    public int Group_Id{get;set}
}

Step-Two change the property name and again apply to same migration (e.g. Add-Migration ColumnChanged -force) in the Package Manager Console

public class ReportPages
{
    [Column("Section_Id")]                 //Section_Id
    public int Section_Id{get;set}
}

If you look at the Migration class you can see the automatically code generated is RenameColumn.

How to set null to a GUID property

How can I store and retrieve images from a MySQL database using PHP?

My opinion is, Instead of storing images directly to the database, It is recommended to store the image location in the database. As we compare both options, Storing images in the database is safe for security purpose. Disadvantage are

  1. If database is corrupted, no way to retrieve.

  2. Retrieving image files from db is slow when compare to other option.

On the other hand, storing image file location in db will have following advantages.

  1. It is easy to retrieve.

  2. If more than one images are stored, we can easily retrieve image information.

getting "No column was specified for column 2 of 'd'" in sql server cte?

Quite an intuitive error message - just need to give the columns in d names

Change to either this

d as
 (
  select
     [duration] = month(clothdeliverydate),
     [bkdqty] = SUM(CONVERT(INT, deliveredqty))
  FROM
     barcodetable
  where
     month(clothdeliverydate) is not null
  group by month(clothdeliverydate)
 )

Or you can explicitly declare the fields in the definition of the cte:

d ([duration], [bkdqty]) as
 (
  select
     month(clothdeliverydate),
     SUM(CONVERT(INT, deliveredqty))
  FROM
     barcodetable
  where
     month(clothdeliverydate) is not null
  group by month(clothdeliverydate)
 )

How to reset Jenkins security settings from the command line?

Using bcrypt you can solve this issue. Extending the @Reem answer for someone who is trying to automate the process using bash and python.

#!/bin/bash

pip install bcrypt
yum install -y https://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/epel/epel-release-latest-7.noarch.rpm
yum -y install xmlstarlet

cat > /tmp/jenkinsHash.py <<EOF
import bcrypt
import sys

if not sys.argv[1]:
  sys.exit(10)

plaintext_pwd=sys.argv[1]
encrypted_pwd=bcrypt.hashpw(sys.argv[1], bcrypt.gensalt(rounds=10, prefix=b"2a"))
isCorrect=bcrypt.checkpw(plaintext_pwd, encrypted_pwd)

if not isCorrect:
   sys.exit(20);

print "{}".format(encrypted_pwd)
EOF

chmod +x /tmp/jenkinsHash.py
cd /var/lib/jenkins/users/admin*
pwd
while (( 1 )); do
    echo "Waiting for Jenkins to generate admin user's config file ..."

    if [[ -f "./config.xml" ]]; then
        break
    fi

    sleep 10
done

echo "Admin config file created"

admin_password=$(python /tmp/jenkinsHash.py password 2>&1)

# Repalcing the new passowrd
xmlstarlet -q ed --inplace -u "/user/properties/hudson.security.HudsonPrivateSecurityRealm_-Details/passwordHash" -v '#jbcrypt:'"$admin_password" config.xml

# Restart
systemctl restart jenkins
sleep 10

I have kept password hardcoded here but it can be a user input depending upon the requirement. Also make sure to add that sleep otherwise any other command revolving around Jenkins will fail.

Selecting empty text input using jQuery

Another way

$('input:text').filter(function() { return $(this).val() == ""; });

or

$('input:text').filter(function() { return this.value == ""; });

or

// WARNING: if input element does not have the "value" attribute or this attribute was removed from DOM then such selector WILL NOT WORK!
// For example input with type="file" and file does not selected.
// It's prefer to use "filter()" method.

How to check if a Unix .tar.gz file is a valid file without uncompressing?

> use the -O option. [...] If the tar file is corrupt, the process will abort with an error.

Sometimes yes, but sometimes not. Let's see an example of a corrupted file:

echo Pete > my_name
tar -cf my_data.tar my_name

# // Simulate a corruption
sed < my_data.tar 's/Pete/Fool/' > my_data_now.tar
# // "my_data_now.tar" is the corrupted file

tar -xvf my_data_now.tar -O

It shows:

my_name
Fool

Even if you execute

echo $?

tar said that there was no error:

0

but the file was corrupted, it has now "Fool" instead of "Pete".

How to assign colors to categorical variables in ggplot2 that have stable mapping?

I am in the same situation pointed out by malcook in his comment: unfortunately the answer by Thierry does not work with ggplot2 version 0.9.3.1.

png("figure_%d.png")
set.seed(2014)
library(ggplot2)
dataset <- data.frame(category = rep(LETTERS[1:5], 100),
    x = rnorm(500, mean = rep(1:5, 100)),
    y = rnorm(500, mean = rep(1:5, 100)))
dataset$fCategory <- factor(dataset$category)
subdata <- subset(dataset, category %in% c("A", "D", "E"))

ggplot(dataset, aes(x = x, y = y, colour = fCategory)) + geom_point()
ggplot(subdata, aes(x = x, y = y, colour = fCategory)) + geom_point()

Here it is the first figure:

ggplot A-E, mixed colors

and the second figure:

ggplot ADE, mixed colors

As we can see the colors do not stay fixed, for example E switches from magenta to blu.

As suggested by malcook in his comment and by hadley in his comment the code which uses limits works properly:

ggplot(subdata, aes(x = x, y = y, colour = fCategory)) +
    geom_point() +
    scale_colour_discrete(drop=TRUE,
        limits = levels(dataset$fCategory))

gives the following figure, which is correct:

Insert Multiple Rows Into Temp Table With SQL Server 2012

When using SQLFiddle, make sure that the separator is set to GO. Also the schema build script is executed in a different connection from the run script, so a temp table created in the one is not visible in the other. This fiddle shows that your code is valid and working in SQL 2012:

SQL Fiddle

MS SQL Server 2012 Schema Setup:

Query 1:

CREATE TABLE #Names
  (
    Name1 VARCHAR(100),
    Name2 VARCHAR(100)
  )

INSERT INTO #Names
  (Name1, Name2)
VALUES
  ('Matt', 'Matthew'),
  ('Matt', 'Marshal'),
  ('Matt', 'Mattison')

SELECT * FROM #NAMES

Results:

| NAME1 |    NAME2 |
--------------------
|  Matt |  Matthew |
|  Matt |  Marshal |
|  Matt | Mattison |

How can I add a line to a file in a shell script?

As far as I understand, you want to prepend column1, column2, column3 to your existing one, two, three.

I would use ed in place of sed, since sed write on the standard output and not in the file.

The command:

printf '0a\ncolumn1, column2, column3\n.\nw\n' | ed testfile.csv

should do the work.

perl -i is worth taking a look as well.

How do I delete specific characters from a particular String in Java?

Use:

String str = "whatever";
str = str.replaceAll("[,.]", "");

Modifying local variable from inside lambda

I know that's an old question, but if you are comfortable with a workaround, considering the fact that the external variable should be final, you can simply do this:

final int[] ordinal = new int[1];
list.forEach(s -> {
    s.setOrdinal(ordinal[0]);
    ordinal[0]++;
});

Maybe not the most elegant, or even the most correct, but it will do.

How to change default Anaconda python environment

For Jupyter and Windows users, you can change the Target path in your Jupyter Notebook (anaconda3) shortcut from C:\Users\<YourUserName>\anaconda3 to C:\Users\<YourUserName>\anaconda3\envs\<YourEnvironmentName>

you could do the same thing for the Anaconda Prompt..etc.

After changing the path you can check your active environment by opening a terminal in Jupyter and run conda info --envs.

Understanding Bootstrap's clearfix class

When a clearfix is used in a parent container, it automatically wraps around all the child elements.

It is usually used after floating elements to clear the float layout.

When float layout is used, it will horizontally align the child elements. Clearfix clears this behaviour.

Example - Bootstrap Panels

In bootstrap, when the class panel is used, there are 3 child types: panel-header, panel-body, panel-footer. All of which have display:block layout but panel-body has a clearfix pre-applied. panel-body is a main container type whereas panel-header & panel-footer isn't intended to be a container, it is just intended to hold some basic text.

If floating elements are added, the parent container does not get wrapped around those elements because the height of floating elements is not inherited by the parent container.

So for panel-header & panel-footer, clearfix is needed to clear the float layout of elements: Clearfix class gives a visual appearance that the height of the parent container has been increased to accommodate all of its child elements.

 <div class="container">
    <div class="panel panel-default">
        <div class="panel-footer">
            <div class="col-xs-6">
                <input type="button" class="btn btn-primary"   value="Button1">
                <input type="button" class="btn btn-primary"   value="Button2">
                <input type="button" class="btn btn-primary"   value="Button3">
            </div>
        </div>
    </div>

    <div class="panel panel-default">
        <div class="panel-footer">
            <div class="col-xs-6">
                <input type="button" class="btn btn-primary"   value="Button1">
                <input type="button" class="btn btn-primary"   value="Button2">
                <input type="button" class="btn btn-primary"   value="Button3">
            </div>
            <div class="clearfix"/>
        </div>
    </div>

.c vs .cc vs. .cpp vs .hpp vs .h vs .cxx

Historically, the first extensions used for C++ were .c and .h, exactly like for C. This caused practical problems, especially the .c which didn't allow build systems to easily differentiate C++ and C files.

Unix, on which C++ has been developed, has case sensitive file systems. So some used .C for C++ files. Other used .c++, .cc and .cxx. .C and .c++ have the problem that they aren't available on other file systems and their use quickly dropped. DOS and Windows C++ compilers tended to use .cpp, and some of them make the choice difficult, if not impossible, to configure. Portability consideration made that choice the most common, even outside MS-Windows.

Headers have used the corresponding .H, .h++, .hh, .hxx and .hpp. But unlike the main files, .h remains to this day a popular choice for C++ even with the disadvantage that it doesn't allow to know if the header can be included in C context or not. Standard headers now have no extension at all.

Additionally, some are using .ii, .ixx, .ipp, .inl for headers providing inline definitions and .txx, .tpp and .tpl for template definitions. Those are either included in the headers providing the definition, or manually in the contexts where they are needed.

Compilers and tools usually don't care about what extensions are used, but using an extension that they associate with C++ prevents the need to track out how to configure them so they correctly recognize the language used.

2017 edit: the experimental module support of Visual Studio recognize .ixx as a default extension for module interfaces, clang++ is recognizing .c++m, .cppm and .cxxm for the same purpose.

Multiline input form field using Bootstrap

I think the problem is that you are using type="text" instead of textarea. What you want is:

<textarea class="span6" rows="3" placeholder="What's up?" required></textarea>

To clarify, a type="text" will always be one row, where-as a textarea can be multiple.

How can I use Timer (formerly NSTimer) in Swift?

SimpleTimer (Swift 3.1)

Why?

This is a simple timer class in swift that enables you to:

  • Local scoped timer
  • Chainable
  • One liners
  • Use regular callbacks

Usage:

SimpleTimer(interval: 3,repeats: true){print("tick")}.start()//Ticks every 3 secs

Code:

class SimpleTimer {/*<--was named Timer, but since swift 3, NSTimer is now Timer*/
    typealias Tick = ()->Void
    var timer:Timer?
    var interval:TimeInterval /*in seconds*/
    var repeats:Bool
    var tick:Tick

    init( interval:TimeInterval, repeats:Bool = false, onTick:@escaping Tick){
        self.interval = interval
        self.repeats = repeats
        self.tick = onTick
    }
    func start(){
        timer = Timer.scheduledTimer(timeInterval: interval, target: self, selector: #selector(update), userInfo: nil, repeats: true)//swift 3 upgrade
    }
    func stop(){
        if(timer != nil){timer!.invalidate()}
    }
    /**
     * This method must be in the public or scope
     */
    @objc func update() {
        tick()
    }
}

@Resource vs @Autowired

In spring pre-3.0 it doesn't matter which one.

In spring 3.0 there's support for the standard (JSR-330) annotation @javax.inject.Inject - use it, with a combination of @Qualifier. Note that spring now also supports the @javax.inject.Qualifier meta-annotation:

@Qualifier
@Retention(RUNTIME)
public @interface YourQualifier {}

So you can have

<bean class="com.pkg.SomeBean">
   <qualifier type="YourQualifier"/>
</bean>

or

@YourQualifier
@Component
public class SomeBean implements Foo { .. }

And then:

@Inject @YourQualifier private Foo foo;

This makes less use of String-names, which can be misspelled and are harder to maintain.

As for the original question: both, without specifying any attributes of the annotation, perform injection by type. The difference is:

  • @Resource allows you to specify a name of the injected bean
  • @Autowired allows you to mark it as non-mandatory.

                    deletedAll = deleteFile(new File(file, children[i])) && deletedAll;
                }
            } else {
                deletedAll = file.delete();
            }
        }

        return deletedAll;
    }
}

So if you want a button to do this you need to call MyApplication.getInstance(). clearApplicationData() from within an onClickListener

Update: Your SharedPreferences instance might hold onto your data and recreate the preferences file after you delete it. So your going to want to get your SharedPreferences object and

prefs.edit().clear().commit();

Update:

You need to add android:name="your.package.MyApplication" to the application tag inside AndroidManifest.xml if you had not done so. Else, MyApplication.getInstance() returns null, resulting a NullPointerException.

Is there a way to avoid null check before the for-each loop iteration starts?

I guess the right answer is that: there is no way to make it shorter. There are some techniques such as the ones in the comments, but I don't see myself using them. I think it's better to write a "if" block than to use those techniques. and yes.. before anybody mentions it yet again :) "ideally" the code should be desgined such that list should never be a null

Pythonic way to create a long multi-line string

This approach uses:

  • almost no internal punctuation by using a triple quoted string
  • strips away local indentation using the inspect module
  • uses Python 3.6 formatted string interpolation ('f') for the account_id and def_id variables.

This way looks the most Pythonic to me.

import inspect

query = inspect.cleandoc(f'''
    SELECT action.descr as "action",
    role.id as role_id,
    role.descr as role
    FROM
    public.role_action_def,
    public.role,
    public.record_def,
    public.action
    WHERE role.id = role_action_def.role_id AND
    record_def.id = role_action_def.def_id AND
    action.id = role_action_def.action_id AND
    role_action_def.account_id = {account_id} AND
    record_def.account_id={account_id} AND
    def_id={def_id}'''
)

tkinter: how to use after method

I believe, the 500ms run in the background, while the rest of the code continues to execute and empties the list.

Then after 500ms nothing happens, as no function-call is implemented in the after-callup (same as frame.after(500, function=None))

Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding. The statement has been terminated

In your code where you run the stored procedure you should have something like this:

SqlCommand c = new SqlCommand(...)
//...

Add such a line of code:

c.CommandTimeout = 0;

This will wait as much time as needed for the operation to complete.

Getter and Setter declaration in .NET

Properties are used to encapsulate some data. You could use a plain field:

public string MyField

But this field can be accessed by all outside users of your class. People can insert illegal values or change the value in ways you didn't expect.

By using a property, you can encapsulate the way your data is accessed. C# has a nice syntax for turning a field into a property:

string MyProperty { get; set; }

This is called an auto-implemented property. When the need arises you can expand your property to:

string _myProperty;

public string MyProperty
{
    get { return _myProperty; }
    set { _myProperty = value; }
}

Now you can add code that validates the value in your setter:

set
{
    if (string.IsNullOrWhiteSpace(value))
        throw new ArgumentNullException();

    _myProperty = value;
}

Properties can also have different accessors for the getter and the setter:

public string MyProperty { get; private set; }

This way you create a property that can be read by everyone but can only be modified by the class itself.

You can also add a completely custom implementation for your getter:

public string MyProperty
{
    get
    {
        return DateTime.Now.Second.ToString();
    }
}

When C# compiles your auto-implemented property, it generates Intermediate Language (IL). In your IL you will see a get_MyProperty and set_MyProperty method. It also creates a backing field called <MyProperty>k_BackingField (normally this would be an illegal name in C# but in IL it's valid. This way you won't get any conflicts between generated types and your own code). However, you should use the official property syntax in C#. This creates a nicer experience in C# (for example with IntelliSense).

By convention, you shouldn't use properties for operations that take a long time.

Warning: The method assertEquals from the type Assert is deprecated

this method also encounter a deprecate warning:

org.junit.Assert.assertEquals(float expected,float actual) //deprecated

It is because currently junit prefer a third parameter rather than just two float variables input.

The third parameter is delta:

public static void assertEquals(double expected,double actual,double delta) //replacement

this is mostly used to deal with inaccurate Floating point calculations

for more information, please refer this problem: Meaning of epsilon argument of assertEquals for double values

How can I loop through a List<T> and grab each item?

This is how I would write using more functional way. Here is the code:

new List<Money>()
{
     new Money() { Amount = 10, Type = "US"},
     new Money() { Amount = 20, Type = "US"}
}
.ForEach(money =>
{
    Console.WriteLine($"amount is {money.Amount}, and type is {money.Type}");
});

Comparing date part only without comparing time in JavaScript

This works for me:

 export default (chosenDate) => {
  const now = new Date();
  const today = new Date(Date.UTC(now.getUTCFullYear(), now.getUTCMonth(), now.getUTCDate()));
  const splitChosenDate = chosenDate.split('/');

  today.setHours(0, 0, 0, 0);
  const fromDate = today.getTime();
  const toDate = new Date(splitChosenDate[2], splitChosenDate[1] - 1, splitChosenDate[0]).getTime();

  return toDate < fromDate;
};

In accepted answer, there is timezone issue and in the other time is not 00:00:00

PreparedStatement IN clause alternatives?

Just for completeness and because I did not see anyone else suggest it:

Before implementing any of the complicated suggestions above consider if SQL injection is indeed a problem in your scenario.

In many cases the value provided to IN (...) is a list of ids that have been generated in a way that you can be sure that no injection is possible... (e.g. the results of a previous select some_id from some_table where some_condition.)

If that is the case you might just concatenate this value and not use the services or the prepared statement for it or use them for other parameters of this query.

query="select f1,f2 from t1 where f3=? and f2 in (" + sListOfIds + ");";

Is it worth using Python's re.compile?

I've had a lot of experience running a compiled regex 1000s of times versus compiling on-the-fly, and have not noticed any perceivable difference

The votes on the accepted answer leads to the assumption that what @Triptych says is true for all cases. This is not necessarily true. One big difference is when you have to decide whether to accept a regex string or a compiled regex object as a parameter to a function:

>>> timeit.timeit(setup="""
... import re
... f=lambda x, y: x.match(y)       # accepts compiled regex as parameter
... h=re.compile('hello')
... """, stmt="f(h, 'hello world')")
0.32881879806518555
>>> timeit.timeit(setup="""
... import re
... f=lambda x, y: re.compile(x).match(y)   # compiles when called
... """, stmt="f('hello', 'hello world')")
0.809190034866333

It is always better to compile your regexs in case you need to reuse them.

Note the example in the timeit above simulates creation of a compiled regex object once at import time versus "on-the-fly" when required for a match.

Using variables inside a bash heredoc

Don't use quotes with <<EOF:

var=$1
sudo tee "/path/to/outfile" > /dev/null <<EOF
Some text that contains my $var
EOF

Variable expansion is the default behavior inside of here-docs. You disable that behavior by quoting the label (with single or double quotes).

The "backspace" escape character '\b': unexpected behavior?

If you want a destructive backspace, you'll need something like

"\b \b"

i.e. a backspace, a space, and another backspace.

Flutter - The method was called on null

The reason for this error occurs is that you are using the CryptoListPresenter _presenter without initializing.

I found that CryptoListPresenter _presenter would have to be initialized to fix because _presenter.loadCurrencies() is passing through a null variable at the time of instantiation;

there are two ways to initialize

  1. Can be initialized during an declaration, like this

    CryptoListPresenter _presenter = CryptoListPresenter();

  2. In the second, initializing(with assigning some value) it when initState is called, which the framework will call this method once for each state object.

    @override
    void initState() {
      _presenter = CryptoListPresenter(...);
    }

Hibernate: best practice to pull all lazy collections

With Hibernate 4.1.6 a new feature is introduced to handle those lazy association problems. When you enable hibernate.enable_lazy_load_no_trans property in hibernate.properties or in hibernate.cfg.xml, you will have no LazyInitializationException any more.

Java Interfaces/Implementation naming convention

I use both conventions:

If the interface is a specific instance of a a well known pattern (e.g. Service, DAO), then it may not need an "I" (e.g UserService, AuditService, UserDao) all work fine without the "I", because the post-fix determines the meta pattern.

But, if you have something one-off or two-off (usually for a callback pattern), then it helps to distinguish it from a class (e.g. IAsynchCallbackHandler, IUpdateListener, IComputeDrone). These are special purpose interfaces designed for internal use, occasionally the IInterface calls out attention to the fact that an operand is actually an interface, so at first glance it is immediately clear.

In other cases you can use the I to avoid colliding with other commonly known concrete classes (ISubject, IPrincipal vs Subject or Principal).

Make EditText ReadOnly

If you just want to be able to copy text from the control but not be able to edit it you might want to use a TextView instead and set text is selectable.

code:

myTextView.setTextIsSelectable(true);
myTextView.setFocusable(true);
myTextView.setFocusableInTouchMode(true);
// myTextView.setSelectAllOnFocus(true);

xml:

<TextView
    android:textIsSelectable="true"
    android:focusable="true"
    android:focusableInTouchMode="true"
    ...
/>
<!--android:selectAllOnFocus="true"-->

The documentation of setTextIsSelectable says:

When you call this method to set the value of textIsSelectable, it sets the flags focusable, focusableInTouchMode, clickable, and longClickable to the same value...

However I had to explicitly set focusable and focusableInTouchMode to true to make it work with touch input.

gcc error: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64

It turns out the compiler version I was using did not match the compiled version done with the coreset.o.

One was 32bit the other was 64bit. I'll leave this up in case anyone else runs into a similar problem.

How to send file contents as body entity using cURL

I believe you're looking for the @filename syntax, e.g.:

strip new lines

curl --data "@/path/to/filename" http://...

keep new lines

curl --data-binary "@/path/to/filename" http://...

curl will strip all newlines from the file. If you want to send the file with newlines intact, use --data-binary in place of --data

multiprocessing: How do I share a dict among multiple processes?

I'd like to share my own work that is faster than Manager's dict and is simpler and more stable than pyshmht library that uses tons of memory and doesn't work for Mac OS. Though my dict only works for plain strings and is immutable currently. I use linear probing implementation and store keys and values pairs in a separate memory block after the table.

from mmap import mmap
import struct
from timeit import default_timer
from multiprocessing import Manager
from pyshmht import HashTable

class shared_immutable_dict:
    def __init__(self, a):

On my laptop performance results are:

mmap speed: 247288 gets per sec
manager speed: 33792 gets per sec
shm speed: 691332 gets per sec

simple usage example:

ht = shared_immutable_dict({'a': '1', 'b': '2'})
print ht.get('a')

How can I remove the search bar and footer added by the jQuery DataTables plugin?

A quick and dirty way is to find out the class of the footer and hide it using jQuery or CSS:

$(".dataTables_info").hide();

Differences between TCP sockets and web sockets, one more time

When you send bytes from a buffer with a normal TCP socket, the send function returns the number of bytes of the buffer that were sent. If it is a non-blocking socket or a non-blocking send then the number of bytes sent may be less than the size of the buffer. If it is a blocking socket or blocking send, then the number returned will match the size of the buffer but the call may block. With WebSockets, the data that is passed to the send method is always either sent as a whole "message" or not at all. Also, browser WebSocket implementations do not block on the send call.

But there are more important differences on the receiving side of things. When the receiver does a recv (or read) on a TCP socket, there is no guarantee that the number of bytes returned corresponds to a single send (or write) on the sender side. It might be the same, it may be less (or zero) and it might even be more (in which case bytes from multiple send/writes are received). With WebSockets, the recipient of a message is event-driven (you generally register a message handler routine), and the data in the event is always the entire message that the other side sent.

Note that you can do message based communication using TCP sockets, but you need some extra layer/encapsulation that is adding framing/message boundary data to the messages so that the original messages can be re-assembled from the pieces. In fact, WebSockets is built on normal TCP sockets and uses frame headers that contains the size of each frame and indicate which frames are part of a message. The WebSocket API re-assembles the TCP chunks of data into frames which are assembled into messages before invoking the message event handler once per message.

Error in Swift class: Property not initialized at super.init call

Swift will not allow you to initialise super class with out initialising the properties, reverse of Obj C. So you have to initialise all properties before calling "super.init".

Please go to http://blog.scottlogic.com/2014/11/20/swift-initialisation.html. It gives a nice explanation to your problem.

Excel VBA - select a dynamic cell range

If you want to select a variable range containing all headers cells:

Dim sht as WorkSheet
Set sht = This Workbook.Sheets("Data")

'Range(Cells(1,1),Cells(1,Columns.Count).End(xlToLeft)).Select '<<< NOT ROBUST

sht.Range(sht.Cells(1,1),sht.Cells(1,Columns.Count).End(xlToLeft)).Select

...as long as there's no other content on that row.

EDIT: updated to stress that when using Range(Cells(...), Cells(...)) it's good practice to qualify both Range and Cells with a worksheet reference.

What does mvn install in maven exactly do

Have you looked at any of the Maven docs, for example, the maven install plugin docs?

Nutshell version: it will build the project and install it in your local repository.

Remove a HTML tag but keep the innerHtml

How about this?

$("b").insertAdjacentHTML("afterend",$("b").innerHTML);
$("b").parentNode.removeChild($("b"));

The first line copies the HTML contents of the b tag to the location directly after the b tag, and then the second line removes the b tag from the DOM, leaving only its copied contents.

I normally wrap this into a function to make it easier to use:

function removeElementTags(element) {
   element.insertAdjacentHTML("afterend",element.innerHTML);
   element.parentNode.removeChild(element);
}

All of the code is actually pure Javascript, the only JQuery being used is that to select the element to target (the b tag in the first example). The function is just pure JS :D

Also look at:

Why do I get an UnsupportedOperationException when trying to remove an element from a List?

or

List<String> list = new ArrayList<String>(Arrays.asList(split));

or (Better for Remove elements)

List<String> list = new LinkedList<>(Arrays.asList(split));

How to disable 'X-Frame-Options' response header in Spring Security?

Most likely you don't want to deactivate this Header completely, but use SAMEORIGIN. If you are using the Java Configs (Spring Boot) and would like to allow the X-Frame-Options: SAMEORIGIN, then you would need to use the following.

For older Spring Security versions:

http
   .headers()
       .addHeaderWriter(new XFrameOptionsHeaderWriter(XFrameOptionsHeaderWriter.XFrameOptionsMode.SAMEORIGIN))

For newer versions like Spring Security 4.0.2:

http
   .headers()
      .frameOptions()
         .sameOrigin();

Attribute 'nowrap' is considered outdated. A newer construct is recommended. What is it?

Although there's CSS defines a text-wrap property, it's not supported by any major browser, but maybe vastly supported white-space property solves your problem.

How do I check what version of Python is running my script?

Selecting non-blank cells in Excel with VBA

This might be completely off base, but can't you just copy the whole column into a new spreadsheet and then sort the column? I'm assuming that you don't need to maintain the order integrity.

Delimiter must not be alphanumeric or backslash and preg_match

You can also use T-Regx library which has automatic delimiters for you:

$matches = pattern("My name is '(.*)' and im fine")->match($string1)->all();

                 // ? No delimiters needed

What is the difference between re.search and re.match?

re.match is anchored at the beginning of the string. That has nothing to do with newlines, so it is not the same as using ^ in the pattern.

As the re.match documentation says:

If zero or more characters at the beginning of string match the regular expression pattern, return a corresponding MatchObject instance. Return None if the string does not match the pattern; note that this is different from a zero-length match.

Note: If you want to locate a match anywhere in string, use search() instead.

re.search searches the entire string, as the documentation says:

Scan through string looking for a location where the regular expression pattern produces a match, and return a corresponding MatchObject instance. Return None if no position in the string matches the pattern; note that this is different from finding a zero-length match at some point in the string.

So if you need to match at the beginning of the string, or to match the entire string use match. It is faster. Otherwise use search.

The documentation has a specific section for match vs. search that also covers multiline strings:

Python offers two different primitive operations based on regular expressions: match checks for a match only at the beginning of the string, while search checks for a match anywhere in the string (this is what Perl does by default).

Note that match may differ from search even when using a regular expression beginning with '^': '^' matches only at the start of the string, or in MULTILINE mode also immediately following a newline. The “match” operation succeeds only if the pattern matches at the start of the string regardless of mode, or at the starting position given by the optional pos argument regardless of whether a newline precedes it.

Now, enough talk. Time to see some example code:

# example code:
string_with_newlines = """something
someotherthing"""

import re

print re.match('some', string_with_newlines) # matches
print re.match('someother',
               string_with_newlines) # won't match
print re.match('^someother', string_with_newlines,
               re.MULTILINE) # also won't match
print re.search('someother',
                string_with_newlines) # finds something
print re.search('^someother', string_with_newlines,
                re.MULTILINE) # also finds something

m = re.compile('thing$', re.MULTILINE)

print m.match(string_with_newlines) # no match
print m.match(string_with_newlines, pos=4) # matches
print m.search(string_with_newlines,
               re.MULTILINE) # also matches

How to check if object has any properties in JavaScript?

var hasAnyProps = false; for (var key in obj) { hasAnyProps = true; break; }
// as of this line hasAnyProps will show Boolean whether or not any iterable props exist

Simple, works in every browser, and even though it's technically a loop for all keys on the object it does NOT loop through them all...either there's 0 and the loop doesn't run or there is some and it breaks after the first one (because all we're checking is if there's ANY...so why continue?)

Error reading JObject from JsonReader. Current JsonReader item is not an object: StartArray. Path

I ran into a very similar problem with my Xamarin Windows Phone 8.1 app. The reason JObject.Parse(json) would not work for me was because my Json had a beginning "[" and an ending "]". In order to make it work, I had to remove those two characters. From your example, it looks like you might have the same issue.

jsonResult = jsonResult.TrimStart(new char[] { '[' }).TrimEnd(new char[] { ']' });

I was then able to use the JObject.Parse(jsonResult) and everything worked.

The advantages of this method is that you can change the height of the div, change the height of the text field and change the font size and everything will always stay in the middle.

Convert 4 bytes to int

The easiest way is:

RandomAccessFile in = new RandomAccessFile("filename", "r");
int i = in.readInt();

-- or --

DataInputStream in = new DataInputStream(new BufferedInputStream(
    new FileInputStream("filename")));
int i = in.readInt();

Initializing multiple variables to the same value in Java

You can declare multiple variables, and initialize multiple variables, but not both at the same time:

 String one,two,three;
 one = two = three = "";

However, this kind of thing (especially the multiple assignments) would be frowned upon by most Java developers, who would consider it the opposite of "visually simple".

How do you modify the web.config appSettings at runtime?

I know this question is old, but I wanted to post an answer based on the current state of affairs in the ASP.NET\IIS world combined with my real world experience.

I recently spearheaded a project at my company where I wanted to consolidate and manage all of the appSettings & connectionStrings settings in our web.config files in one central place. I wanted to pursue an approach where our config settings were stored in ZooKeeper due to that projects maturity & stability. Not to mention that fact that ZooKeeper is by design a configuration & cluster managing application.

The project goals were very simple;

  1. get ASP.NET to communicate with ZooKeeper
  2. in Global.asax, Application_Start - pull web.config settings from ZooKeeper.

Upon getting passed the technical piece of getting ASP.NET to talk to ZooKeeper, I quickly found and hit a wall with the following code;

ConfigurationManager.AppSettings.Add(key_name, data_value)

That statement made the most logical sense since I wanted to ADD new settings to the appSettings collection. However, as the original poster (and many others) mentioned, this code call returns an Error stating that the collection is Read-Only.

After doing a bit of research and seeing all the different crazy ways people worked around this problem, I was very discouraged. Instead of giving up or settling for what appeared to be a less than ideal scenario, I decided to dig in and see if I was missing something.

With a little trial and error, I found the following code would do exactly what I wanted;

ConfigurationManager.AppSettings.Set(key_name, data_value)

Using this line of code, I am now able to load all 85 appSettings keys from ZooKeeper in my Application_Start.

In regards to general statements about changes to web.config triggering IIS recycles, I edited the following appPool settings to monitor the situation behind the scenes;

appPool-->Advanced Settings-->Recycling-->Disable Recycling for Configuration Changes = False
appPool-->Advanced Settings-->Recycling-->Generate Recycle Event Log Entry-->[For Each Setting] = True

With that combination of settings, if this process were to cause an appPool recycle, an Event Log entry should have be recorded, which it was not.

This leads me to conclude that it is possible, and indeed safe, to load an applications settings from a centralized storage medium.

I should mention that I am using IIS7.5 on Windows 7. The code will be getting deployed to IIS8 on Win2012. Should anything regarding this answer change, I will update this answer accordingly.

How to Add Stacktrace or debug Option when Building Android Studio Project

You can use GUI to add these gradle command line flags from

File > Settings > Build, Execution, Deployment > Compiler

For MacOS user, it's here

Android Studio > Preferences > Build, Execution, Deployment > Compiler

like this (add --stacktrace or --debug)

Note that the screenshot is from before 0.8.10, the option is no longer in the Compiler > Gradle section, it's now in a separate section named Compiler (Gradle-based Android Project)

Java verify void method calls n times with Mockito

The necessary method is Mockito#verify:

public static <T> T verify(T mock,
                           VerificationMode mode)

mock is your mocked object and mode is the VerificationMode that describes how the mock should be verified. Possible modes are:

verify(mock, times(5)).someMethod("was called five times");
verify(mock, never()).someMethod("was never called");
verify(mock, atLeastOnce()).someMethod("was called at least once");
verify(mock, atLeast(2)).someMethod("was called at least twice");
verify(mock, atMost(3)).someMethod("was called at most 3 times");
verify(mock, atLeast(0)).someMethod("was called any number of times"); // useful with captors
verify(mock, only()).someMethod("no other method has been called on the mock");

You'll need these static imports from the Mockito class in order to use the verify method and these verification modes:

import static org.mockito.Mockito.atLeast;
import static org.mockito.Mockito.atLeastOnce;
import static org.mockito.Mockito.atMost;
import static org.mockito.Mockito.never;
import static org.mockito.Mockito.only;
import static org.mockito.Mockito.times;
import static org.mockito.Mockito.verify;

So in your case the correct syntax will be:

Mockito.verify(mock, times(4)).send()

This verifies that the method send was called 4 times on the mocked object. It will fail if it was called less or more than 4 times.

If you just want to check, if the method has been called once, then you don't need to pass a VerificationMode. A simple

verify(mock).someMethod("was called once");

would be enough. It internally uses verify(mock, times(1)).someMethod("was called once");.

It is possible to have multiple verification calls on the same mock to achieve a "between" verification. Mockito doesn't support something like this verify(mock, between(4,6)).someMethod("was called between 4 and 6 times");, but we can write

verify(mock, atLeast(4)).someMethod("was called at least four times ...");
verify(mock, atMost(6)).someMethod("... and not more than six times");

instead, to get the same behaviour. The bounds are included, so the test case is green when the method was called 4, 5 or 6 times.

Cannot drop database because it is currently in use

just renaming the DB (to be delete) did the trick for me. it got off the hold of whatever process was accessing the database, and so I was able to drop the database.

Replacing a character from a certain index

As strings are immutable in Python, just create a new string which includes the value at the desired index.

Assuming you have a string s, perhaps s = "mystring"

You can quickly (and obviously) replace a portion at a desired index by placing it between "slices" of the original.

s = s[:index] + newstring + s[index + 1:]

You can find the middle by dividing your string length by 2 len(s)/2

If you're getting mystery inputs, you should take care to handle indices outside the expected range

def replacer(s, newstring, index, nofail=False):
    # raise an error if index is outside of the string
    if not nofail and index not in range(len(s)):
        raise ValueError("index outside given string")

    # if not erroring, but the index is still not in the correct range..
    if index < 0: # add it to the beginning
        return newstring + s
    if index > len(s): # add it to the end
        return s + newstring

    # insert the new string between "slices" of the original
    return s[:index] + newstring + s[index + 1:]

This will work as

replacer("mystring", "12", 4)
'myst12ing'

Display all views on oracle database

SELECT *
FROM DBA_OBJECTS
WHERE OBJECT_TYPE = 'VIEW'

LEFT JOIN only first row

I want to give a more generalized answer. One that will handle any case when you want to select only the first item in a LEFT JOIN.

You can use a subquery that GROUP_CONCATS what you want (sorted, too!), then just split the GROUP_CONCAT'd result and take only its first item, like so...

LEFT JOIN Person ON Person.id = (
    SELECT SUBSTRING_INDEX(
        GROUP_CONCAT(FirstName ORDER BY FirstName DESC SEPARATOR "_" ), '_', 1)
    ) FROM Person
);

Since we have DESC as our ORDER BY option, this will return a Person id for someone like "Zack". If we wanted someone with the name like "Andy", we would change ORDER BY FirstName DESC to ORDER BY FirstName ASC.

This is nimble, as this places the power of ordering totally within your hands. But, after much testing, it will not scale well in a situation with lots of users and lots of data.

It is, however, useful in running data-intensive reports for admin.

How do I choose grid and block dimensions for CUDA kernels?

The answers above point out how the block size can impact performance and suggest a common heuristic for its choice based on occupancy maximization. Without wanting to provide the criterion to choose the block size, it would be worth mentioning that CUDA 6.5 (now in Release Candidate version) includes several new runtime functions to aid in occupancy calculations and launch configuration, see

CUDA Pro Tip: Occupancy API Simplifies Launch Configuration

One of the useful functions is cudaOccupancyMaxPotentialBlockSize which heuristically calculates a block size that achieves the maximum occupancy. The values provided by that function could be then used as the starting point of a manual optimization of the launch parameters. Below is a little example.

#include <stdio.h>

/************************/
/* TEST KERNEL FUNCTION */
/************************/
__global__ void MyKernel(int *a, int *b, int *c, int N)
{
    int idx = threadIdx.x + blockIdx.x * blockDim.x;

    if (idx < N) { c[idx] = a[idx] + b[idx]; }
}

/********/
/* MAIN */
/********/
void main()
{
    const int N = 1000000;

    int blockSize; // The launch configurator returned block size
    int minGridSize; // The minimum grid size needed to achieve the maximum occupancy for a full device launch
    int gridSize; // The actual grid size needed, based on input size

    int* h_vec1 = (int*) malloc(N*sizeof(int));
    int* h_vec2 = (int*) malloc(N*sizeof(int));
    int* h_vec3 = (int*) malloc(N*sizeof(int));
    int* h_vec4 = (int*) malloc(N*sizeof(int));

    int* d_vec1; cudaMalloc((void**)&d_vec1, N*sizeof(int));
    int* d_vec2; cudaMalloc((void**)&d_vec2, N*sizeof(int));
    int* d_vec3; cudaMalloc((void**)&d_vec3, N*sizeof(int));

    for (int i=0; i<N; i++) {
        h_vec1[i] = 10;
        h_vec2[i] = 20;
        h_vec4[i] = h_vec1[i] + h_vec2[i];
    }

    cudaMemcpy(d_vec1, h_vec1, N*sizeof(int), cudaMemcpyHostToDevice);
    cudaMemcpy(d_vec2, h_vec2, N*sizeof(int), cudaMemcpyHostToDevice);

    float time;
    cudaEvent_t start, stop;
    cudaEventCreate(&start);
    cudaEventCreate(&stop);
    cudaEventRecord(start, 0);

    cudaOccupancyMaxPotentialBlockSize(&minGridSize, &blockSize, MyKernel, 0, N);

    // Round up according to array size
    gridSize = (N + blockSize - 1) / blockSize;

    cudaEventRecord(stop, 0);
    cudaEventSynchronize(stop);
    cudaEventElapsedTime(&time, start, stop);
    printf("Occupancy calculator elapsed time:  %3.3f ms \n", time);

    cudaEventRecord(start, 0);

    MyKernel<<<gridSize, blockSize>>>(d_vec1, d_vec2, d_vec3, N);

    cudaEventRecord(stop, 0);
    cudaEventSynchronize(stop);
    cudaEventElapsedTime(&time, start, stop);
    printf("Kernel elapsed time:  %3.3f ms \n", time);

    printf("Blocksize %i\n", blockSize);

    cudaMemcpy(h_vec3, d_vec3, N*sizeof(int), cudaMemcpyDeviceToHost);

    for (int i=0; i<N; i++) {
        if (h_vec3[i] != h_vec4[i]) { printf("Error at i = %i! Host = %i; Device = %i\n", i, h_vec4[i], h_vec3[i]); return; };
    }

    printf("Test passed\n");

}

EDIT

The cudaOccupancyMaxPotentialBlockSize is defined in the cuda_runtime.h file and is defined as follows:

template<class T>
__inline__ __host__ CUDART_DEVICE cudaError_t cudaOccupancyMaxPotentialBlockSize(
    int    *minGridSize,
    int    *blockSize,
    T       func,
    size_t  dynamicSMemSize = 0,
    int     blockSizeLimit = 0)
{
    return cudaOccupancyMaxPotentialBlockSizeVariableSMem(minGridSize, blockSize, func, __cudaOccupancyB2DHelper(dynamicSMemSize), blockSizeLimit);
}

The meanings for the parameters is the following

minGridSize = Suggested min grid size to achieve a full machine launch.
blockSize = Suggested block size to achieve maximum occupancy.
func            = Kernel function.
dynamicSMemSize = Size of dynamically allocated shared memory. Of course, it is known at runtime before any kernel launch. The size of the statically allocated shared memory is not needed as it is inferred by the properties of func.
blockSizeLimit = Maximum size for each block. In the case of 1D kernels, it can coincide with the number of input elements.

Note that, as of CUDA 6.5, one needs to compute one's own 2D/3D block dimensions from the 1D block size suggested by the API.

Note also that the CUDA driver API contains functionally equivalent APIs for occupancy calculation, so it is possible to use cuOccupancyMaxPotentialBlockSize in driver API code in the same way shown for the runtime API in the example above.

How can I pretty-print JSON using Go?

Here's what I use. If it fails to pretty print the JSON it just returns the original string. Useful for printing HTTP responses that should contain JSON.

func jsonPrettyPrint(in string) string {
    var out bytes.Buffer
    err := json.Indent(&out, []byte(in), "", "\t")
    if err != nil {
        return in
    }

How do I create a singleton service in Angular 2?

In addition to the above excellent answers, there may be something else that is missing if things in your singleton still aren't behaving as a singleton. I ran into the issue when calling a public function on the singleton and finding that it was using the wrong variables. It turns out that the problem was the this isn't guaranteed to be bound to the singleton for any public functions in the singleton. This can be corrected by following the advice here, like so:

@Injectable({
  providedIn: 'root',
})
export class SubscriptableService {
  public serviceRequested: Subject<ServiceArgs>;
  public onServiceRequested$: Observable<ServiceArgs>;

  constructor() {
    this.serviceRequested = new Subject<ServiceArgs>();
    this.onServiceRequested$ = this.serviceRequested.asObservable();

    // save context so the singleton pattern is respected
    this.requestService = this.requestService.bind(this);
  }

  public requestService(arg: ServiceArgs) {
    this.serviceRequested.next(arg);
  }
}

Alternatively, you can simply declare the class members as public static instead of public, then the context won't matter, but you'll have to access them like SubscriptableService.onServiceRequested$ instead of using dependency injection and accessing them via this.subscriptableService.onServiceRequested$.

Display Animated GIF

Easiest way - Can be consider the below code

We can take advantage of Imageview setImageResource , refer below code for the same.

The below code can be used to show the image like gif incase if you have the multiple split image of gif. Just split the gif into individual png from a online tool and put image in the drawable like the below order

image_1.png, image_2.png, etc.

Have the handler to change the image dynamically.

int imagePosition = 1;
    Handler handler = new Handler();
        Runnable runnable = new Runnable() {
            public void run() {
                updateImage();
            }
        };

    public void updateImage() {

                appInstance.runOnUiThread(new Runnable() {
                    @Override
                    public void run() {
                        int resId = getResources().getIdentifier("image_" + imagePosition, "drawable", appInstance.getPackageName());
                        gifImageViewDummy.setImageResource(resId);
                        imagePosition++;
    //Consider you have 30 image for the anim
                        if (imagePosition == 30) {
//this make animation play only once
                            handler.removeCallbacks(runnable);

                        } else {
    //You can define your own time based on the animation
                            handler.postDelayed(runnable, 50);
                        }

//to make animation to continue use below code and remove above if else
// if (imagePosition == 30)
//imagePosition = 1;
// handler.postDelayed(runnable, 50);
//
                    }
                });
              }

What are the differences between a clustered and a non-clustered index?

Clustered Index

  • Only one per table
  • Faster to read than non clustered as data is physically stored in index order

Non Clustered Index

  • Can be used many times per table
  • Quicker for insert and update operations than a clustered index

Both types of index will improve performance when select data with fields that use the index but will slow down update and insert operations.

Because of the slower insert and update clustered indexes should be set on a field that is normally incremental ie Id or Timestamp.

SQL Server will normally only use an index if its selectivity is above 95%.

stdcall and cdecl

The caller and the callee need to use the same convention at the point of invokation - that's the only way it could reliably work. Both the caller and the callee follow a predefined protocol - for example, who needs to clean up the stack. If conventions mismatch your program runs into undefined behavior - likely just crashes spectacularly.

This is only required per invokation site - the calling code itself can be a function with any calling convention.

You shouldn't notice any real difference in performance between those conventions. If that becomes a problem you usually need to make less calls - for example, change the algorithm.

Splitting String with delimiter

How are you calling split? It works like this:

def values = '1182-2'.split('-')
assert values[0] == '1182'
assert values[1] == '2'

Join/Where with LINQ and Lambda

This linq query Should work for you. It will get all the posts that have post meta.

var query = database.Posts.Join(database.Post_Metas,
                                post => post.postId, // Primary Key
                                meta => meat.postId, // Foreign Key
                                (post, meta) => new { Post = post, Meta = meta });

Equivalent SQL Query

Select * FROM Posts P
INNER JOIN Post_Metas pm ON pm.postId=p.postId

Java ByteBuffer to String

Try this:

new String(bytebuffer.array(), "ASCII");

NB. you can't correctly convert a byte array to a String without knowing its encoding.

PostgreSQL ERROR: canceling statement due to conflict with recovery

I'm going to add some updated info and references to @max-malysh's excellent answer above.

In short, if you do something on the master, it needs to be replicated on the slave. Postgres uses WAL records for this, which are sent after every logged action on the master to the slave. The slave then executes the action and the two are again in sync. In one of several scenarios, you can be in conflict on the slave with what's coming in from the master in a WAL action. In most of them, there's a transaction happening on the slave which conflicts with what the WAL action wants to change. In that case, you have two options:

  1. Delay the application of the WAL action for a bit, allowing the slave to finish its conflicting transaction, then apply the action.
  2. Cancel the conflicting query on the slave.

We're concerned with #1, and two values:

  • max_standby_archive_delay - this is the delay used after a long disconnection between the master and slave, when the data is being read from a WAL archive, which is not current data.
  • max_standby_streaming_delay - delay used for cancelling queries when WAL entries are received via streaming replication.

Generally, if your server is meant for high availability replication, you want to keep these numbers short. The default setting of 30000 (milliseconds if no units given) is sufficient for this. If, however, you want to set up something like an archive, reporting- or read-replica that might have very long-running queries, then you'll want to set this to something higher to avoid cancelled queries. The recommended 900s setting above seems like a good starting point. I disagree with the official docs on setting an infinite value -1 as being a good idea--that could mask some buggy code and cause lots of issues.

The one caveat about long-running queries and setting these values higher is that other queries running on the slave in parallel with the long-running one which is causing the WAL action to be delayed will see old data until the long query has completed. Developers will need to understand this and serialize queries which shouldn't run simultaneously.

For the full explanation of how max_standby_archive_delay and max_standby_streaming_delay work and why, go here.

jQuery add blank option to top of list and make selected to existing dropdown

This worked:

$("#theSelectId").prepend("<option value='' selected='selected'></option>");

Firebug Output:

<select id="theSelectId">
  <option selected="selected" value=""/>
  <option value="volvo">Volvo</option>
  <option value="saab">Saab</option>
  <option value="mercedes">Mercedes</option>
  <option value="audi">Audi</option>
</select>

You could also use .prependTo if you wanted to reverse the order:

?$("<option>", { value: '', selected: true }).prependTo("#theSelectId");???????????

A more useful statusline in vim?

Edit:-

Note vim-airline is gaining some traction as the new vimscript option as powerline has gone python.

Seems powerline is where it is at these days:-

Normal status line

powerline

Customised status lines for other plugins (e.g. ctrlp)

powerline

Including non-Python files with setup.py

I wanted to post a comment to one of the questions but I don't enough reputation to do that >.>

Here's what worked for me (came up with it after referring the docs):

package_data={
    'mypkg': ['../*.txt']
},

include_package_data: False

The last line was, strangely enough, also crucial for me (you can also omit this keyword argument - it works the same).

What this does is it copies all text files in your top-level or root directory (one level up from the package mypkg you want to distribute).

Hope this helps!

How can I work with command line on synology?

You can use your favourite telnet (not recommended) or ssh (recommended) application to connect to your Synology box and use it as a terminal.

  1. Enable the command line interface (CLI) from the Network Services
  2. Define the protocol and the user and make sure the user has password set
  3. Access the CLI

If you need more detailed instruction read https://www.synology.com/en-global/knowledgebase/DSM/help/DSM/AdminCenter/system_terminal

Control cannot fall through from one case label

You need to break;, throw, goto, or return from each of your case labels. In a loop you may also continue.

        switch (searchType)
        {
            case "SearchBooks":
                Selenium.Type("//*[@id='SearchBooks_TextInput']", searchText);
                Selenium.Click("//*[@id='SearchBooks_SearchBtn']");
                break;

            case "SearchAuthors":
                Selenium.Type("//*[@id='SearchAuthors_TextInput']", searchText);
                Selenium.Click("//*[@id='SearchAuthors_SearchBtn']");
                break;
        }

The only time this isn't true is when the case labels are stacked like this:

 case "SearchBooks": // no code inbetween case labels.
 case "SearchAuthors":
    // handle both of these cases the same way.
    break;

PSQLException: current transaction is aborted, commands ignored until end of transaction block

I am using JDBI with Postgres, and encountered the same problem, i.e. after a violation of some constraint from a statement of previous transaction, subsequent statements would fail (but after I wait for a while, say 20-30 seconds, the problem goes away).

After some research, I found the problem was I was doing transaction "manually" in my JDBI, i.e. I surrounded my statements with BEGIN;...COMMIT; and it turns out to be the culprit!

In JDBI v2, I can just add @Transaction annotation, and the statements within @SqlQuery or @SqlUpdate will be executed as a transaction, and the above mentioned problem doesn't happen any more!

Like this:

In fact, Python only has foreach style for loops.

What's the net::ERR_HTTP2_PROTOCOL_ERROR about?

For me it was due to full disk space.

My application (server) was running on docker. Cleared some space and it started working.

"NoClassDefFoundError: Could not initialize class" error

You're missing the necessary class definition; typically caused by required JAR not being in classpath.

From J2SE API:

public class NoClassDefFoundError extends LinkageError

Thrown if the Java Virtual Machine or a ClassLoader instance tries to load in the definition of a class (as part of a normal method call or as part of creating a new instance using the new expression) and no definition of the class could be found.

The searched-for class definition existed when the currently executing class was compiled, but the definition can no longer be found.

What does this format means T00:00:00.000Z?

Please use DateTimeFormatter ISO_DATE_TIME = DateTimeFormatter.ISO_DATE_TIME; instead of DateTimeFormatter.ofPattern("dd-MM-yyyy HH:mm:ss") or any pattern

This fixed my problem Below

Swift GET request with parameters

I use:

let dictionary = ["method":"login_user",
                  "cel":mobile.text!
                  "password":password.text!] as  Dictionary<String,String>

for (key, value) in dictionary {
    data=data+"&"+key+"="+value
    }

request.HTTPBody = data.dataUsingEncoding(NSUTF8StringEncoding);

Force browser to clear cache

I had a case where I would take photos of clients online and would need to update the div if a photo is changed. Browser was still showing the old photo. So I used the hack of calling a random GET variable, which would be unique every time. Here it is if it could help anybody

<img src="/photos/userid_73.jpg?random=<?php echo rand() ?>" ...

EDIT As pointed out by others, following is much more efficient solution since it will reload images only when they are changed, identifying this change by the file size:

<img src="/photos/userid_73.jpg?modified=<? filemtime("/photos/userid_73.jpg")?>"

How do you add a timer to a C# console application

You can also use your own timing mechanisms if you want a little more control, but possibly less accuracy and more code/complexity, but I would still recommend a timer. Use this though if you need to have control over the actual timing thread:

private void ThreadLoop(object callback)
{
    while(true)
    {
        ((Delegate) callback).DynamicInvoke(null);
        Thread.Sleep(5000);
    }
}

would be your timing thread(modify this to stop when reqiuired, and at whatever time interval you want).

and to use/start you can do:

Thread t = new Thread(new ParameterizedThreadStart(ThreadLoop));

t.Start((Action)CallBack);

Callback is your void parameterless method that you want called at each interval. For example:

private void CallBack()
{
    //Do Something.
}

Huge performance difference when using group by vs distinct

The two queries express the same question. Apparently the query optimizer chooses two different execution plans. My guess would be that the distinct approach is executed like:

  • Copy all business_key values to a temporary table
  • Sort the temporary table
  • Scan the temporary table, returning each item that is different from the one before it

The group by could be executed like:

  • Scan the full table, storing each value of business key in a hashtable
  • Return the keys of the hashtable

The first method optimizes for memory usage: it would still perform reasonably well when part of the temporary table has to be swapped out. The second method optimizes for speed, but potentially requires a large amount of memory if there are a lot of different keys.

Since you either have enough memory or few different keys, the second method outperforms the first. It's not unusual to see performance differences of 10x or even 100x between two execution plans.

What's the difference between "&nbsp;" and " "?

Multiple normal white space characters (space, tabulator and line break) are treated as one single white space character:

For all HTML elements except PRE, sequences of white space separate "words" (we use the term "word" here to mean "sequences of non-white space characters"). When formatting text, user agents should identify these words and lay them out according to the conventions of the particular written language (script) and target medium.

So

foo    bar

is displayed as

foo bar

But no-break space is always displayed. So

foo&?nbsp;&?nbsp;&?nbsp;bar

is displayed as

foo   bar

Cannot find the object because it does not exist or you do not have permissions. Error in SQL Server

Sharing my case, hope that will help.

In my situation inside MY_PROJ.Database->MY_PROJ.Database.sqlproj I had to put this:

XMLHttpRequest module not defined/found

XMLHttpRequest is a built-in object in web browsers.

It is not distributed with Node; you have to install it separately,

  1. Install it with npm,

    npm install xmlhttprequest

  2. Now you can require it in your code.

    var XMLHttpRequest = require("xmlhttprequest").XMLHttpRequest;
    var xhr = new XMLHttpRequest();

That said, the http module is the built-in tool for making HTTP requests from Node.

Axios is a library for making HTTP requests which is available for Node and browsers that is very popular these days.

Signed versus Unsigned Integers

Everything except for point 2 is correct. There are many different notations for signed ints, some implementations use the first, others use the last and yet others use something completely different. That all depends on the platform you're working with.

jQuery: get the file name selected from <input type="file" />

The simplest way is to simply use the following line of jquery, using this you don't get the /fakepath nonsense, you straight up get the file that was uploaded:

$('input[type=file]')[0].files[0]; // This gets the file
$('#idOfFileUpload')[0].files[0]; // This gets the file with the specified id

Some other useful commands are:

To get the name of the file:

$('input[type=file]')[0].files[0].name; // This gets the file name

To get the type of the file:

If I were to upload a PNG, it would return image/png

$("#imgUpload")[0].files[0].type

To get the size (in bytes) of the file:

$("#imgUpload")[0].files[0].size

Also you don't have to use these commands on('change', you can get the values at any time, for instance you may have a file upload and when the user clicks upload, you simply use the commands I listed.

Export to csv in jQuery

You can do that in the client side only, in browser that accept Data URIs:

data:application/csv;charset=utf-8,content_encoded_as_url

In your example the Data URI must be:

data:application/csv;charset=utf-8,Col1%2CCol2%2CCol3%0AVal1%2CVal2%2CVal3%0AVal11%2CVal22%2CVal33%0AVal111%2CVal222%2CVal333

You can call this URI by:

  • using window.open
  • or setting the window.location
  • or by the href of an anchor
  • by adding the download attribute it will work in chrome, still have to test in IE.

To test, simply copy the URIs above and paste in your browser address bar. Or test the anchor below in a HTML page:

<a download="somedata.csv" href="data:application/csv;charset=utf-8,Col1%2CCol2%2CCol3%0AVal1%2CVal2%2CVal3%0AVal11%2CVal22%2CVal33%0AVal111%2CVal222%2CVal333">Example</a>

To create the content, getting the values from the table, you can use table2CSV and do:

var data = $table.table2CSV({delivery:'value'});

$('<a></a>')
    .attr('id','downloadFile')
    .attr('href','data:text/csv;charset=utf8,' + encodeURIComponent(data))
    .attr('download','filename.csv')
    .appendTo('body');

$('#downloadFile').ready(function() {
    $('#downloadFile').get(0).click();
});

Most, if not all, versions of IE don't support navigation to a data link, so a hack must be implemented, often with an iframe. Using an iFrame combined with document.execCommand('SaveAs'..), you can get similar behavior on most currently used versions of IE.

jQuery Selector: Id Ends With?

If you know the element type then: (eg: replace 'element' with 'div')

$("element[id$='txtTitle']")

If you don't know the element type:

$("[id$='txtTitle']")

MsgBox "" vs MsgBox() in VBScript

You have to distinct sub routines and functions in vba... Generally (as far as I know), sub routines do not return anything and the surrounding parantheses are optional. For functions, you need to write the parantheses.

As for your example, MsgBox is not a function but a sub routine and therefore the parantheses are optional in that case. One exception with functions is, when you do not assign the returned value, or when the function does not consume a parameter, you can leave away the parantheses too.

This answer goes into a bit more detail, but basically you should be on the save side, when you provide parantheses for functions and leave them away for sub routines.

How do I update zsh to the latest version?

As far as I'm aware, you've got three options to install zsh on Mac OS X:

  • Pre-built binary. The only one I know of is the one that ships with OS X; this is probably what you're running now.
  • Use a package system (Ports, Homebrew).
  • Install from source. Last time I did this it wasn't too difficult (./configure, make, make install).

Setting the focus to a text field

This is an easy one:

How to stop a vb script running in windows

in your code, just after 'do while' statement, add this line..

`Wscript.sleep 10000`

This will let your script sleep for 10 secs and let your system take rest. Else your processor will be running this script million times a second and this will definitely load your processor.

To kill it, just goto taskmanager and kill wscript.exe or if it is not found, you will find cscript.exe, kill it pressing delete button. These would be present in process tab of your taskmanager.

Once you add that line in code, I dont think you need to kill this process. It will not load your CPU.

Have a great day.
