Programs & Examples On #Calculus

Calculus is the study of change of one or more variables with respect to another variable. Calculus has two main operators: differentiation and integration. Differentiation can be used to study the change of one variable with respect to another. Integration can be used to find the area bounded by a function.

Fast way to discover the row count of a table in PostgreSQL

For SQL Server (2005 or above) a quick and reliable method is:

SELECT SUM (row_count)
FROM sys.dm_db_partition_stats
WHERE object_id=OBJECT_ID('MyTableName')
AND (index_id=0 or index_id=1);

Details about sys.dm_db_partition_stats are explained in MSDN

The query adds rows from all parts of a (possibly) partitioned table.

index_id=0 is an unordered table (Heap) and index_id=1 is an ordered table (clustered index)

Even faster (but unreliable) methods are detailed here.

How to add dll in c# project

Have you added the dll into your project references list? If not right click on the project "References" folder and selecet "Add Reference" then use browse to locate your science.dll, select it and click ok.

edit

I can't see the image of your VS instance that some people are referring to and I note that you now say that it works in Net4.0 and VS2010.

VS2008 projects support NET 3.5 by default. I expect that is the problem as your DLL may be NET 4.0 compliant but not NET 3.5.

Memory errors and list limits?

The MemoryError exception that you are seeing is the direct result of running out of available RAM. This could be caused by either the 2GB per program limit imposed by Windows (32bit programs), or lack of available RAM on your computer. (This link is to a previous question).

You should be able to extend the 2GB by using 64bit copy of Python, provided you are using a 64bit copy of windows.

The IndexError would be caused because Python hit the MemoryError exception before calculating the entire array. Again this is a memory issue.

To get around this problem you could try to use a 64bit copy of Python or better still find a way to write you results to file. To this end look at numpy's memory mapped arrays.

You should be able to run you entire set of calculation into one of these arrays as the actual data will be written disk, and only a small portion of it held in memory.

library not found for -lPods

I used old cocoapod version after update the cocoapods it suggest me to update my installed pod because of major update as i update after long time. I update it and new version pods was updated fine. But after that i got the error like library not found for -lPods-xxxprojectName-xxxxxpodName

After tried so many solutions given as answer of in this thred, non of this worked for me. Then i went to my project setting and found that pods path was change which was on Other Linker Flag

Check your Manage Schemes for correct pod name and compare it in Other Linker Flag, Change it if not similar

Old pod path was -l"lPods-xxxprojectName-xxxxxpodName"

But new pods was only xxxxxpodName so i replaced Other Linker Flag with new one like below

Changed to pod path -l"xxxxxpodName" and it's worked.

I don't know the perfect reason behind this but might be this help some one.

JavaScript: Global variables after Ajax requests

AJAX stands for Asynchronous JavaScript and XML. Thus, the post to the server happens out-of-sync with the rest of the function. Try some code like this instead (it just breaks the shorthand $.post out into the longer $.ajax call and adds the async option).

var it_works = false;

$.ajax({
  type: 'POST',
  async: false,
  url: "some_file.php",
  data: "",
  success: function() {it_works = true;}
});

alert(it_works);

Hope this helps!

How can I make an entire HTML form "readonly"?

Another simple way that's supported by all browsers would be:

HTML:

<form class="disabled">
  <input type="text" name="name" />
  <input type="radio" name="gender" value="male">
  <input type="radio" name="gender" value="female">
  <input type="checkbox" name="vegetarian">
</form>

CSS:

.disabled {
  pointer-events: none;
  opacity: .4;
}

But be aware, that the tabbing still works with this approach and the elements with focus can still be manipulated by the user.

How to catch SQLServer timeout exceptions

here: http://www.tech-archive.net/Archive/DotNet/microsoft.public.dotnet.framework.adonet/2006-10/msg00064.html

You can read also that Thomas Weingartner wrote:

Timeout: SqlException.Number == -2 (This is an ADO.NET error code)
General Network Error: SqlException.Number == 11
Deadlock: SqlException.Number == 1205 (This is an SQL Server error code)

...

We handle the "General Network Error" as a timeout exception too. It only occurs under rare circumstances e.g. when your update/insert/delete query will raise a long running trigger.

Struct memory layout in C

In C, the compiler is allowed to dictate some alignment for every primitive type. Typically the alignment is the size of the type. But it's entirely implementation-specific.

Padding bytes are introduced so every object is properly aligned. Reordering is not allowed.

Possibly every remotely modern compiler implements #pragma pack which allows control over padding and leaves it to the programmer to comply with the ABI. (It is strictly nonstandard, though.)

From C99 §6.7.2.1:

12 Each non-bit-field member of a structure or union object is aligned in an implementation- defined manner appropriate to its type.

13 Within a structure object, the non-bit-field members and the units in which bit-fields reside have addresses that increase in the order in which they are declared. A pointer to a structure object, suitably converted, points to its initial member (or if that member is a bit-field, then to the unit in which it resides), and vice versa. There may be unnamed padding within a structure object, but not at its beginning.

How to retrieve JSON Data Array from ExtJS Store

In my case I wanted a javascript jagged array e.g. [["row1Cell1", "row1cell2"],["row2Cell1", "row2cell2"]] based on the contents of the Ext grid store.

The javascript as below will create such an array, dropping the id key in the object which I didn't need.

var tableDataArray = [];
Ext.ComponentQuery.query('[name="table1"]')[0].store.each(function(record){
    var thisRecordArray = [];
    for (var key in record.data) {
        if (key != 'id') {
            thisRecordArray.push(record.data[key]);
        }
    }
    tableDataArray.push(thisRecordArray);
});

Undefined index with $_POST

Instead of isset() you can use something shorter getting errors muted, it is @$_POST['field']. Then, if the field is not set, you'll get no error printed on a page.

Could not reserve enough space for object heap

Suppose your class is called Test in package mypackage. Run your code like this:

java -Xmx1024m mypackage.Test

This will reserve 1024 MB of heap space for your code. If you want 512 MB, you can use:

java -Xmx512m mypackage.Test

Use little m in 1024m, 512m, etc

What is the difference between printf() and puts() in C?

When comparing puts() and printf(), even though their memory consumption is almost the same, puts() takes more time compared to printf().

Split a string into array in Perl

Having $line as it is now, you can simply split the string based on at least one whitespace separator

my @answer = split(' ', $line); # creates an @answer array

then

print("@answer\n"); # print array on one line

or

print("$_\n") for (@answer); # print each element on one line

I prefer using () for split, print and for.

'System.Reflection.TargetInvocationException' occurred in PresentationFramework.dll

I think you will have fewer problems if you declared a Property that implements INotifyPropertyChanged, then databind IsChecked, SelectedIndex(using IValueConverter) and Fill(using IValueConverter) to it instead of using the Checked Event to toggle SelectedIndex and Fill.

How do I find the size of a struct?

The exact value is sizeof(a).
You might also take a risk and assume that it is in this case no less than 2 and no greater than 16.

Asp.net - Add blank item at top of dropdownlist

Like "Whisk" Said, the trick is in "AppendDataBoundItems" property

protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)

    if (!IsPostBack)
    {
        DropDownList1.AppendDataBoundItems = true;
        DropDownList1.Items.Insert(0, new ListItem(String.Empty, String.Empty));
        DropDownList1.SelectedIndex = 0;

Best HTTP Authorization header type for JWT

The best HTTP header for your client to send an access token (JWT or any other token) is the Authorization header with the Bearer authentication scheme.

This scheme is described by the RFC6750.

Example:

GET /resource HTTP/1.1
Host: server.example.com
Authorization: Bearer eyJhbGciOiJIUzI1NiIXVCJ9TJV...r7E20RMHrHDcEfxjoYZgeFONFh7HgQ

If you need stronger security protection, you may also consider the following IETF draft: https://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-ietf-oauth-pop-architecture. This draft seems to be a good alternative to the (abandoned?) https://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-ietf-oauth-v2-http-mac.

Note that even if this RFC and the above specifications are related to the OAuth2 Framework protocol, they can be used in any other contexts that require a token exchange between a client and a server.

Unlike the custom JWT scheme you mention in your question, the Bearer one is registered at the IANA.

Concerning the Basic and Digest authentication schemes, they are dedicated to authentication using a username and a secret (see RFC7616 and RFC7617) so not applicable in that context.

How do I extract specific 'n' bits of a 32-bit unsigned integer in C?

This is a briefer variation of the accepted answer: the function below extracts the bits from-to inclusive by creating a bitmask. After applying an AND logic over the original number the result is shifted so the function returns just the extracted bits. Skipped index/integrity checks for clarity.

uint16_t extractInt(uint16_t orig16BitWord, unsigned from, unsigned to)
{
  unsigned mask = ( (1<<(to-from+1))-1) << from;
  return (orig16BitWord & mask) >> from;

Bootstrap 3 - How to load content in modal body via AJAX?

A simple way to use modals is with eModal!

Ex from github:

  1. Link to eModal.js <script src="//rawgit.com/saribe/eModal/master/dist/eModal.min.js"></script>
  2. use eModal to display a modal for alert, ajax, prompt or confirm

    // Display an alert modal with default title (Attention)
    eModal.ajax('your/url.html');

name1 = input("What's your name? ")
age1 = int(input ("how old are you?" ))
x=0
twentyone = str(21-age1)
print("Hi, " +name1+ " you will be 21 in: " + twentyone + " years.")

Algorithm to generate all possible permutations of a list?

There is already plenty of good solutions here, but I would like to share how I solved this problem on my own and hope that this might be helpful for somebody who would also like to derive his own solution.

After some pondering about the problem I have come up with two following conclusions:

  1. For the list L of size n there will be equal number of solutions starting with L1, L2 ... Ln elements of the list. Since in total there are n! permutations of the list of size n, we get n! / n = (n-1)! permutations in each group.
  2. The list of 2 elements has only 2 permutations => [a,b] and [b,a].

Using these two simple ideas I have derived the following algorithm:

permute array
    if array is of size 2
       return first and second element as new array
       return second and first element as new array
    else
        for each element in array
            new subarray = array with excluded element
            return element + permute subarray

Here is how I implemented this in C#:

public IEnumerable<List<T>> Permutate<T>(List<T> input)
{
    if (input.Count == 2) // this are permutations of array of size 2
    {
        yield return new List<T>(input);
        yield return new List<T> {input[1], input[0]};
    }
    else
    {
        foreach(T elem in input) // going through array
        {
            var rlist = new List<T>(input); // creating subarray = array
            rlist.Remove(elem); // removing element
            foreach(List<T> retlist in Permutate(rlist))
            {
                retlist.Insert(0,elem); // inserting the element at pos 0
                yield return retlist;
            }

        }
    }
}

ImageView rounded corners

Just wondering if anyone still needs it to be done.

For them: you can use RoundedBitmapDrawable for your purpose.

Sample Code:

ImageView profilePic = (ImageView) findViewById(R.idimageView);

RoundedBitmapDrawable roundedBitmapDrawable = RoundedBitmapDrawableFactory.create(this.getResources(),bitmap);
roundedBitmapDrawable.setCircular(true);
profilePic.setImageDrawable(roundedBitmapDrawable);

where bitmap is the image you want to load in imageView.

Render partial from different folder (not shared)

If you are using this other path a lot of the time you can fix this permanently without having to specify the path all of the time. By default, it is checking for partial views in the View folder and in the Shared folder. But say you want to add one.

Add a class to your Models folder:

public class NewViewEngine : RazorViewEngine {

   private static readonly string[] NEW_PARTIAL_VIEW_FORMATS = new[] {
      "~/Views/Foo/{0}.cshtml",
      "~/Views/Shared/Bar/{0}.cshtml"
   };

   public NewViewEngine() {
      // Keep existing locations in sync
      base.PartialViewLocationFormats = base.PartialViewLocationFormats.Union(NEW_PARTIAL_VIEW_FORMATS).ToArray();
   }
}

Then in your Global.asax.cs file, add the following line:

ViewEngines.Engines.Add(new NewViewEngine());

C++ trying to swap values in a vector

after passing the vector by reference

swap(vector[position],vector[otherPosition]);

hash function for string

First, is 40 collisions for 130 words hashed to 0..99 bad? You can't expect perfect hashing if you are not taking steps specifically for it to happen. An ordinary hash function won't have fewer collisions than a random generator most of the time.

A hash function with a good reputation is MurmurHash3.

Finally, regarding the size of the hash table, it really depends what kind of hash table you have in mind, especially, whether buckets are extensible or one-slot. If buckets are extensible, again there is a choice: you choose the average bucket length for the memory/speed constraints that you have.

  },
  "settings": {
     ...
  }
}

UPDATE

If your index already exists, you can also modify your mappings like this:

PUT test/_mapping/type_name
{
    "properties": { <--- enclose all field definitions in "properties"
        "field1": {
          "type": "integer"
        },
        "field2": {
          "type": "integer"
        },
        "field3": {
          "type": "string",
          "index": "not_analyzed"
        },
        "field4,": {
          "type": "string",
          "analyzer": "autocomplete",
          "search_analyzer": "standard"
        }
    }
}

UPDATE:

As of ES 7, mapping types have been removed. You can read more details here

Listening for variable changes in JavaScript

A rather simple and simplistic solution is to just use a function call to set the value of the global variable, and never set its value directly. This way you have total control:

var globalVar;

function setGlobalVar(value) {
    globalVar = value;
    console.log("Value of globalVar set to: " + globalVar);
    //Whatever else
}

There is no way to enforce this, it just requires programming discipline... though you can use grep (or something similar) to check that nowhere does your code directly set the value of globalVar.

Or you could encapsulate it in an object and user getter and setter methods... just a thought.

Cron and virtualenv

Running source from a cronfile won't work as cron uses /bin/sh as its default shell, which doesn't support source. You need to set the SHELL environment variable to be /bin/bash:

SHELL=/bin/bash
*/10 * * * * root source /path/to/virtualenv/bin/activate && /path/to/build/manage.py some_command > /dev/null

It's tricky to spot why this fails as /var/log/syslog doesn't log the error details. Best to alias yourself to root so you get emailed with any cron errors. Simply add yourself to /etc/aliases and run sendmail -bi.

CommandError: You must set settings.ALLOWED_HOSTS if DEBUG is False

From documentation: https://docs.djangoproject.com/en/1.10/ref/settings/

if DEBUG is False, you also need to properly set the ALLOWED_HOSTS setting. Failing to do so will result in all requests being returned as “Bad Request (400)”.

And from here: https://docs.djangoproject.com/en/1.10/ref/settings/#std:setting-ALLOWED_HOSTS

I am using something like this:

ALLOWED_HOSTS = ['localhost', '127.0.0.1', 'www.mysite.com']

C#: Printing all properties of an object

Don't think so. I've always had to write them or use someone else's work to get that info. Has to be reflection as far as i'm aware.

EDIT:
Check this out. I was investigating some debugging on long object graphs and noticed this when i Add Watches, VS throws in this class: Mscorlib_CollectionDebugView<>. It's an internal type for displaying collections nicely for viewing in the watch windows/code debug modes. Now coz it's internal you can reference it, but u can use Reflector to copy (from mscorlib) the code and have your own (the link above has a copy/paste example). Looks really useful.

Call Python function from MATLAB

I've adapted the perl.m to python.m and attached this for reference for others, but I can't seem to get any output from the Python scripts to be returned to the MATLAB variable :(

Here is my M-file; note I point directly to the Python folder, C:\python27_64, in my code, and this would change on your system.

function [result status] = python(varargin)
cmdString = '';
for i = 1:nargin
    thisArg = varargin{i};
    if isempty(thisArg) || ~ischar(thisArg)
        error('MATLAB:python:InputsMustBeStrings', 'All input arguments must be valid strings.');
    end
    if i==1
        if exist(thisArg, 'file')==2
            if isempty(dir(thisArg))
                thisArg = which(thisArg);
            end
        else
            error('MATLAB:python:FileNotFound', 'Unable to find Python file: %s', thisArg);
        end
    end
  if any(thisArg == ' ')
    thisArg = ['"', thisArg, '"'];
  end
  cmdString = [cmdString, ' ', thisArg];
end
errTxtNoPython = 'Unable to find Python executable.';
if isempty(cmdString)
  error('MATLAB:python:NoPythonCommand', 'No python command specified');
elseif ispc
  pythonCmd = 'C:\python27_64';
  cmdString = ['python' cmdString];
  pythonCmd = ['set PATH=',pythonCmd, ';%PATH%&' cmdString];
  [status, result] = dos(pythonCmd)
else
  [status ignore] = unix('which python'); %#ok
  if (status == 0)
    cmdString = ['python', cmdString];
    [status, result] = unix(cmdString);
  else
    error('MATLAB:python:NoExecutable', errTxtNoPython);
  end
end
if nargout < 2 && status~=0
  error('MATLAB:python:ExecutionError', ...
        'System error: %sCommand executed: %s', result, cmdString);
end

EDIT :

Worked out my problem the original perl.m points to a Perl installation in the MATLAB folder by updating PATH then calling Perl. The function above points to my Python install. When I called my function.py file, it was in a different directory and called other files in that directory. These where not reflected in the PATH, and I had to easy_install my Python files into my Python distribution.

Best way to remove the last character from a string built with stringbuilder

You have two options. First one is very easy use Remove method it is quite effective. Second way is to use ToString with start index and end index (MSDN documentation)

MVC4 StyleBundle not resolving images

Better yet (IMHO) implement a custom Bundle that fixes the image paths. I wrote one for my app.

using System;
using System.Collections.Generic;
using IO = System.IO;
using System.Linq;
using System.Text.RegularExpressions;
using System.Web;
using System.Web.Optimization;

...

public class StyleImagePathBundle : Bundle
{
    public StyleImagePathBundle(string virtualPath)
        : base(virtualPath, new IBundleTransform[1]
      {
        (IBundleTransform) new CssMinify()
      })
    {
    }

    public StyleImagePathBundle(string virtualPath, string cdnPath)
        : base(virtualPath, cdnPath, new IBundleTransform[1]
      {
        (IBundleTransform) new CssMinify()
      })
    {
    }

    public new Bundle Include(params string[] virtualPaths)
    {
        if (HttpContext.Current.IsDebuggingEnabled)
        {
            // Debugging. Bundling will not occur so act normal and no one gets hurt.
            base.Include(virtualPaths.ToArray());
            return this;
        }

        // In production mode so CSS will be bundled. Correct image paths.
        var bundlePaths = new List<string>();
        var svr = HttpContext.Current.Server;
        foreach (var path in virtualPaths)
        {
            var pattern = new Regex(@"url\s*\(\s*([""']?)([^:)]+)\1\s*\)", RegexOptions.IgnoreCase);
            var contents = IO.File.ReadAllText(svr.MapPath(path));
            if(!pattern.IsMatch(contents))
            {
                bundlePaths.Add(path);
                continue;
            }

            var bundlePath = (IO.Path.GetDirectoryName(path) ?? string.Empty).Replace(@"\", "/") + "/";
            var bundleUrlPath = VirtualPathUtility.ToAbsolute(bundlePath);
            var bundleFilePath = String.Format("{0}{1}.bundle{2}",
                                               bundlePath,
                                               IO.Path.GetFileNameWithoutExtension(path),
                                               IO.Path.GetExtension(path));
            contents = pattern.Replace(contents, "url($1" + bundleUrlPath + "$2$1)");
            IO.File.WriteAllText(svr.MapPath(bundleFilePath), contents);
            bundlePaths.Add(bundleFilePath);
        }
        base.Include(bundlePaths.ToArray());
        return this;
    }

}

To use it, do:

bundles.Add(new StyleImagePathBundle("~/bundles/css").Include(
  "~/This/Is/Some/Folder/Path/layout.css"));

...instead of...

bundles.Add(new StyleBundle("~/bundles/css").Include(
  "~/This/Is/Some/Folder/Path/layout.css"));

What it does is (when not in debug mode) looks for url(<something>) and replaces it with url(<absolute\path\to\something>). I wrote the thing about 10 seconds ago so it might need a little tweaking. I've taken into account fully-qualified URLs and base64 DataURIs by making sure there's no colons (:) in the URL path. In our environment, images normally reside in the same folder as their css files, but I've tested it with both parent folders (url(../someFile.png)) and child folders (url(someFolder/someFile.png).

How is a non-breaking space represented in a JavaScript string?

The jQuery docs for text() says

Due to variations in the HTML parsers in different browsers, the text returned may vary in newlines and other white space.

I'd use $td.html() instead.

What causes a TCP/IP reset (RST) flag to be sent?

Some firewalls do that if a connection is idle for x number of minutes. Some ISPs set their routers to do that for various reasons as well.

In this day and age, you'll need to gracefully handle (re-establish as needed) that condition.

Table row and column number in jQuery

Off the top of my head, one way would be to grab all previous elements and count them.

$('td').click(function(){
    var colIndex = $(this).prevAll().length;
    var rowIndex = $(this).parent('tr').prevAll().length;
});

My environment was chromedriver windows 10

Copying data from one SQLite database to another

If you use DB Browser for SQLite, you can copy the table from one db to another in following steps:

  1. Open two instances of the app and load the source db and target db side by side.
  2. If the target db does not have the table, "Copy Create Statement" from the source db and then paste the sql statement in "Execute SQL" tab and run the sql to create the table.
  3. In the source db, export the table as a CSV file.
  4. In the target db, import the CSV file to the table with the same table name. The app will ask you do you want to import the data to the existing table, click yes. Done.

The equivalent of wrap_content and match_parent in flutter?

There are actually some options available:

You can use SizedBox.expand to make your widget match parents dimensions, or SizedBox(width: double.infinity) to match only the width or SizedBox(heigth: double.infinity) to match only the heigth.

If you want a wrap_content behavior it depends on the parent widget you are using, for example if you put a button on a column it will behave like wrap_content and to use it like match_parent you can wrap the button with a Expanded widget or a sizedbox.

With a ListView the button gets a match_parent behavior and to get a wrap_content behavior you can wrap it with a Flex widget like Row.

Using an Expanded widget makes a child of a Row, Column, or Flex expand to fill the available space in the main axis (e.g., horizontally for a Row or vertically for a Column). https://docs.flutter.io/flutter/widgets/Expanded-class.html

Using a Flexible widget gives a child of a Row, Column, or Flex the flexibility to expand to fill the available space in the main axis (e.g., horizontally for a Row or vertically for a Column), but, unlike Expanded, Flexible does not require the child to fill the available space. https://docs.flutter.io/flutter/widgets/Flexible-class.html

Default background color of SVG root element

Let me report a very simple solution I found, that is not written in previous answers. I also wanted to set background in an SVG, but I also want that this works in a standalone SVG file.

Well, this solution is really simple, in fact SVG supports style tags, so you can do something like

<svg xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg" width="50" height="50">
  <style>svg { background-color: red; }</style>
  <text>hello</text>
</svg>

Can Mockito capture arguments of a method called multiple times?

I think it should be

verify(mockBar, times(2)).doSomething(...)

Sample from mockito javadoc:

ArgumentCaptor<Person> peopleCaptor = ArgumentCaptor.forClass(Person.class);
verify(mock, times(2)).doSomething(peopleCaptor.capture());

List<Person> capturedPeople = peopleCaptor.getAllValues();
assertEquals("John", capturedPeople.get(0).getName());
assertEquals("Jane", capturedPeople.get(1).getName());

How to import spring-config.xml of one project into spring-config.xml of another project?

<import resource="classpath:spring-config.xml" />

Reference:

POST an array from an HTML form without javascript

You can also post multiple inputs with the same name and have them save into an array by adding empty square brackets to the input name like this:

<input type="text" name="comment[]" value="comment1"/>
<input type="text" name="comment[]" value="comment2"/>
<input type="text" name="comment[]" value="comment3"/>
<input type="text" name="comment[]" value="comment4"/>

If you use php:

print_r($_POST['comment'])

you will get this:

Array ( [0] => 'comment1' [1] => 'comment2' [2] => 'comment3' [3] => 'comment4' )

jQuery: serialize() form and other parameters

If you want to send data with form serialize you may try this

var form= $("#formId");
$.ajax({
    type: form.attr('method'),
    url: form.attr('action'),
    data: form.serialize()+"&variable="+otherData,
    success: function (data) {
    var result=data;
    $('#result').attr("value",result);

    }
});

How to write html code inside <?php ?>, I want write html code within the PHP script so that it can be echoed from Backend

You can drop in and out of the PHP context using the <?php and ?> tags. For example...

<?php
$array = array(1, 2, 3, 4);
?>

<table>
<thead><tr><th>Number</th></tr></thead>
<tbody>
<?php foreach ($array as $num) : ?>
<tr><td><?= htmlspecialchars($num) ?></td></tr>
<?php endforeach ?>
</tbody>
</table>

Best Way to View Generated Source of Webpage?

C# Iterating through an enum? (Indexing a System.Array)

You can simplify this using format strings. I use the following snippet in usage messages:

writer.WriteLine("Exit codes are a combination of the following:");
foreach (ExitCodes value in Enum.GetValues(typeof(ExitCodes)))
{
    writer.WriteLine("   {0,4:D}: {0:G}", value);
}

The D format specifier formats the enum value as a decimal. There's also an X specifier that gives hexadecimal output.

The G specifier formats an enum as a string. If the Flags attribute is applied to the enum then combined values are supported as well. There's an F specifier that acts as if Flags is always present.

See Enum.Format().

How to remove numbers from string using Regex.Replace?

You can do it with a LINQ like solution instead of a regular expression:

string input = "123- abcd33";
string chars = new String(input.Where(c => c != '-' && (c < '0' || c > '9')).ToArray());

A quick performance test shows that this is about five times faster than using a regular expression.

Better way to find control in ASP.NET

I decided to just build controls dictionaries. Harder to maintain, might run faster than the recursive FindControl().

protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
  this.BuildControlDics();
}

private void BuildControlDics()
{
  _Divs = new Dictionary<MyEnum, HtmlContainerControl>();
  _Divs.Add(MyEnum.One, this.divOne);
  _Divs.Add(MyEnum.Two, this.divTwo);
  _Divs.Add(MyEnum.Three, this.divThree);

}

And before I get down-thumbs for not answering the OP's question...

Q: Now, my question is that is there any other way/solution to find the nested control in ASP.NET? A: Yes, avoid the need to search for them in the first place. Why search for things you already know are there? Better to build a system allowing reference of known objects.

HTML 5 video recording and storing a stream

Currently there is no production ready HTML5 only solution for recording video over the web. The current available solutions are as follows:

HTML Media Capture

Works on mobile devices and uses the OS' video capture app to capture video and upload/POST it to a web server. You will get .mov files on iOS (these are unplayable on Android I've tried) and .mp4 and .3gp on Android. At least the codecs will be the same: H.264 for video and AAC for audio in 99% of the devices.

HTML Media Capture

Image courtesy of https://addpipe.com/blog/the-new-video-recording-prompt-for-media-capture-in-ios9/

Flash and a media server on desktop.

Video recording in Flash works like this: audio and video data is captured from the webcam and microphone, it's encoded using Sorenson Spark or H.264 (video) and Nellymoser Asao or Speex (audio) then it's streamed (rtmp) to a media server (Red5, AMS, Wowza) where it is saved in .flv or .f4v files.

The MediaStream Recording proposal

The MediaStream Recording is a proposal by the the Media Capture Task Force (a joint task force between the WebRTC and Device APIs working groups) for a JS API who's purpose is to make basic video recording in the browser very simple.

Not supported by major browsers. When it'll get implemented (if it will) you will most probably end up with different filetypes (at least .ogg and .webm) and audio/video codecs depending on the browser.

Commercial solutions

There are a few saas and software solutions out there that will handle some or all of the above including addpipe.com, HDFVR, Nimbb and Cameratag.

Running Node.js in apache?

While doing my own server side JS experimentation I ended up using teajs. It conforms to common.js, is based on V8 AND is the only project that I know of that provides 'mod_teajs' apache server module.

In my opinion Node.js server is not production ready and lacks too many features - Apache is battle tested and the right way to do SSJS.

Resize a large bitmap file to scaled output file on Android

This is 'Mojo Risin's and 'Ofir's solutions "combined". This will give you a proportionally resized image with the boundaries of max width and max height.

  1. It only reads meta data to get the original size (options.inJustDecodeBounds)
  2. It uses a rought resize to save memory (itmap.createScaledBitmap)
  3. It uses a precisely resized image based on the rough Bitamp created earlier.

For me it has been performing fine on 5 MegaPixel images an below.

try
{
    int inWidth = 0;
    int inHeight = 0;

    InputStream in = new FileInputStream(pathOfInputImage);

    // decode image size (decode metadata only, not the whole image)
    BitmapFactory.Options options = new BitmapFactory.Options();
    options.inJustDecodeBounds = true;
    BitmapFactory.decodeStream(in, null, options);
    in.close();
    in = null;

    // save width and height
    inWidth = options.outWidth;
    inHeight = options.outHeight;

    // decode full image pre-resized
    in = new FileInputStream(pathOfInputImage);
    options = new BitmapFactory.Options();
    // calc rought re-size (this is no exact resize)
    options.inSampleSize = Math.max(inWidth/dstWidth, inHeight/dstHeight);
    // decode full image
    Bitmap roughBitmap = BitmapFactory.decodeStream(in, null, options);

    // calc exact destination size
    Matrix m = new Matrix();
    RectF inRect = new RectF(0, 0, roughBitmap.getWidth(), roughBitmap.getHeight());
    RectF outRect = new RectF(0, 0, dstWidth, dstHeight);
    m.setRectToRect(inRect, outRect, Matrix.ScaleToFit.CENTER);
    float[] values = new float[9];
    m.getValues(values);

    // resize bitmap
    Bitmap resizedBitmap = Bitmap.createScaledBitmap(roughBitmap, (int) (roughBitmap.getWidth() * values[0]), (int) (roughBitmap.getHeight() * values[4]), true);

    // save image
    try
    {
        FileOutputStream out = new FileOutputStream(pathOfOutputImage);
        resizedBitmap.compress(Bitmap.CompressFormat.JPEG, 80, out);
    }
    catch (Exception e)
    {
        Log.e("Image", e.getMessage(), e);
    }
}
catch (IOException e)
{
    Log.e("Image", e.getMessage(), e);
}

Converting char[] to byte[]

You could make a method:

public byte[] toBytes(char[] data) {
byte[] toRet = new byte[data.length];
for(int i = 0; i < toRet.length; i++) {
toRet[i] = (byte) data[i];
}
return toRet;
}

Monitoring the Full Disclosure mailinglist

Two generic ways to do the same thing... I'm not aware of any specific open solutions to do this, but it'd be rather trivial to do.

You could write a daily or weekly cron/jenkins job to scrape the previous time period's email from the archive looking for your keyworkds/combinations. Sending a batch digest with what it finds, if anything.

But personally, I'd Setup a specific email account to subscribe to the various security lists you're interested in. Add a simple automated script to parse the new emails for various keywords or combinations of keywords, when it finds a match forward that email on to you/your team. Just be sure to keep the keywords list updated with new products you're using.

You could even do this with a gmail account and custom rules, which is what I currently do, but I have setup an internal inbox in the past with a simple python script to forward emails that were of interest.

Is there a naming convention for MySQL?

I would say that first and foremost: be consistent.

I reckon you are almost there with the conventions that you have outlined in your question. A couple of comments though:

Points 1 and 2 are good I reckon.

Point 3 - sadly this is not always possible. Think about how you would cope with a single table foo_bar that has columns foo_id and another_foo_id both of which reference the foo table foo_id column. You might want to consider how to deal with this. This is a bit of a corner case though!

Point 4 - Similar to Point 3. You may want to introduce a number at the end of the foreign key name to cater for having more than one referencing column.

Point 5 - I would avoid this. It provides you with little and will become a headache when you want to add or remove columns from a table at a later date.

Some other points are:

Index Naming Conventions

You may wish to introduce a naming convention for indexes - this will be a great help for any database metadata work that you might want to carry out. For example you might just want to call an index foo_bar_idx1 or foo_idx1 - totally up to you but worth considering.

Singular vs Plural Column Names

It might be a good idea to address the thorny issue of plural vs single in your column names as well as your table name(s). This subject often causes big debates in the DB community. I would stick with singular forms for both table names and columns. There. I've said it.

The main thing here is of course consistency!

Setting attribute disabled on a SPAN element does not prevent click events

The disabled attribute is not global and is only allowed on form controls. What you could do is set a custom data attribute (perhaps data-disabled) and check for that attribute when you handle the click event.

How to Convert JSON object to Custom C# object?

Using JavaScriptSerializer() is less strict than the generic solution offered : public static T Deserialize(string json)

That might come handy when passing json to the server that does not match exactly the Object definition you are trying to convert to.

How to check if memcache or memcached is installed for PHP?

The best approach in this case is to use extension_loaded() or function_exists() they are equally as fast.

How to redirect siteA to siteB with A or CNAME records

You can only make DNS name pont to a different IP address, so if You you are using virtual hosts redirecting with DNS won't work.

When you enter subdomain.hostone.com in your browser it will use DNS to get it's IP address (if it's a CNAME it will continue trying until it gets IP from A record) then it will connect to that IP and send a http request with

Host: subdomain.hostone.com

Get url parameters from a string in .NET

@Andrew and @CZFox

I had the same bug and found the cause to be that parameter one is in fact: http://www.example.com?param1 and not param1 which is what one would expect.

By removing all characters before and including the question mark fixes this problem. So in essence the HttpUtility.ParseQueryString function only requires a valid query string parameter containing only characters after the question mark as in:

HttpUtility.ParseQueryString ( "param1=good&param2=bad" )

My workaround:

string RawUrl = "http://www.example.com?param1=good&param2=bad";
int index = RawUrl.IndexOf ( "?" );
if ( index > 0 )
    RawUrl = RawUrl.Substring ( index ).Remove ( 0, 1 );

Uri myUri = new Uri( RawUrl, UriKind.RelativeOrAbsolute);
string param1 = HttpUtility.ParseQueryString( myUri.Query ).Get( "param1" );`

SQL Server: How to check if CLR is enabled?

SELECT * FROM sys.configurations
WHERE name = 'clr enabled'

what does it mean "(include_path='.:/usr/share/pear:/usr/share/php')"?

Many developers include files by pointing to a remote URL, even if the file is within the local system. For example:

<php include("http://example.com/includes/example_include.php"); ?>

With allow_url_include disabled, this method does not work. Instead, the file must be included with a local path, and there are three methods of doing this:

By using a relative path, such as ../includes/example_include.php. By using an absolute path (also known as relative-from-root), such as /home/username/example.com/includes/example_include.php.

By using the PHP environment variable $_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT'], which returns the absolute path to the web root directory. This is by far the best (and most portable) solution. The following example shows the environment variable in action.

Example Include

<?php include($_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT']."/includes/example_include.php"); ?>

Configuration with name 'default' not found. Android Studio

I had this issue with Jenkins. The cause: I had renamed a module module to Module. I found out that git had gotten confused somehow and kept both module and Module directories, with the contents spread between both folders. The build.gradle was kept in module but the module's name was Module so it was unable to find the default configuration.

I fixed it by backing up the contents of Module, manually deleting module folder from the repo and restoring + pushing the lost files.

{
  conn.Open();
  OleDbCommand cmd = new OleDbCommand("CREATE TABLE [Sheet1] ([Column1] string, [Column2] string)", conn);

Timestamp Difference In Hours for PostgreSQL

This might sound crazy to a lot of developers who like to take advantage of database functions,

But after exhaustive problems thinking, creating and bugfixing applications for mysql and postgrsql with php comparing date functions, I've come to the conclusion (for myself), that the easiest way, that is the simplest with less SQL headaches is not to take advantage of any of them.

Why? because if you are developing in a middleware language like PHP, PHP has all of these functions, and they are easier to implement in the application ode as comparing integers. PostgreSQL timestamp is NOT == UNIX TIMESTAMP and MySQL's UNIX TIMESTAMP is NOT PostgresQL's or Oracles timestamp.. it gets harder to port if you use database timestamps..

so just use an integer, not a timestamp, as the number of seconds since january 1st 1970 midnight. and never mind database timestamps. , and use gmdate() and store everything as gmt time to avoid timezone issues.

if you need to search, sort or compare the day from other data, or the month or the year or the day of the week, or anything, in your application, and INTEGER datatype for time_day, time_hour, time_seconds.. or whatever you wnat to index to be searched will make for smoother and more portable databases. you can just use one field, in most instances: INTEGER time_created NOT NULL

(more fields in your database row is the only drawback to this solution that i have found, and that doesnt cause as many headaches, or cups of coffee :)

php's date functions are outstanding to compare dates, but in mysql or postgresql, comparing dates ? nah.. use integer sql comparisons

i realize it may SEEM easier to use CURRENT_TIMESTAMP on an insert function. HA! don't be fooled.

You cant do DELETE FROM SESSION_TABLE WHERE time-initialized < '2 days' if time-intitialized is a postgresql timestamp. but you CAN do:

DELETE FROM SESSION_TABLE WHERE time_initialized < '$yesterday'

As long as you set $yesterday in php as the integer of seconds since 1970 that yesterday was.

This is easier housekeeping of session records than comparing timestamps in postgresql select statements.

SELECT age(), SELECT extract(), and asbtime are headaches in an of themselves. this is just my opinion.

you can do addition, substraction, <, >, all with php date objects

How to get the correct range to set the value to a cell?

Solution : SpreadsheetApp.getActiveSheet().getRange('F2').setValue('hello')

Explanation :

Setting value in a cell in spreadsheet to which script is attached

SpreadsheetApp.getActiveSpreadsheet().getSheetByName(SHEET_NAME).getRange(RANGE).setValue(VALUE);

Setting value in a cell in sheet which is open currently and to which script is attached

SpreadsheetApp.getActiveSpreadsheet().getActiveSheet().getRange(RANGE).setValue(VALUE);

Setting value in a cell in some spreadsheet to which script is NOT attached (Destination sheet name known)

SpreadsheetApp.openById(SHEET_ID).getSheetByName(SHEET_NAME).getRange(RANGE).setValue(VALUE);

Setting value in a cell in some spreadsheet to which script is NOT attached (Destination sheet position known)

SpreadsheetApp.openById(SHEET_ID).getSheets()[POSITION].getRange(RANGE).setValue(VALUE);

These are constants, you must define them yourself

SHEET_ID

SHEET_NAME

POSITION

VALUE

RANGE

By script attached to a sheet I mean that script is residing in the script editor of that sheet. Not attached means not residing in the script editor of that sheet. It can be in any other place.

What's the @ in front of a string in C#?

This is a verbatim string, and changes the escaping rules - the only character that is now escaped is ", escaped to "". This is especially useful for file paths and regex:

var path = @"c:\some\location";

            WHERE Bar = 1";
var escaped = @"a "" b";

qmake: could not find a Qt installation of ''

I had this problem building jasmine-headless-webkit Ruby gem. Despite having qt4 installed, qmake (a symlink to qtchooser) insisted it didn't know about a QT installation. OTOH, it was able to list qt4 when asked directly.

This made everything better:

export QT_SELECT=qt4

qtchooser then knew to use qmake-qt4, and so on.

How to get all the AD groups for a particular user?

This is how I list all the groups (direct and indirect) for a specific Distinguished Name:

The string 1.2.840.113556.1.4.1941 specifies LDAP_MATCHING_RULE_IN_CHAIN.

This rule is limited to filters that apply to the DN. This is a special "extended" match operator that walks the chain of ancestry in objects all the way to the root until it finds a match.

This method is 25 times faster than the UserPrincipal.GetGroups() method in my testing.

Note: The primary group (typically Domain Users) is not returned by this or GetGroups() method. To get the primary group name too, I've confirmed this method works.

Additionally, I found this list of LDAP filters extremely useful.

private IEnumerable<string> GetGroupsForDistinguishedName(DirectoryEntry domainDirectoryEntry, string distinguishedName)
{
    var groups = new List<string>();
    if (!string.IsNullOrEmpty(distinguishedName))
    {
        var getGroupsFilterForDn = $"(&(objectCategory=group)(member:1.2.840.113556.1.4.1941:={distinguishedName}))";
        using (DirectorySearcher dirSearch = new DirectorySearcher(domainDirectoryEntry))
        {
            dirSearch.Filter = getGroupsFilterForDn;
            dirSearch.PropertiesToLoad.Add("name");

            using (var results = dirSearch.FindAll())
            {
                foreach (SearchResult result in results)
                {
                    if (result.Properties.Contains("name"))
                        groups.Add((string)result.Properties["name"][0]);
                }
            }
        }
    }

What is an optional value in Swift?

Let's take the example of an NSError, if there isn't an error being returned you'd want to make it optional to return Nil. There's no point in assigning a value to it if there isn't an error..

var error: NSError? = nil

This also allows you to have a default value. So you can set a method a default value if the function isn't passed anything

func doesntEnterNumber(x: Int? = 5) -> Bool {
    if (x == 5){
        return true
    } else {
        return false
    }
}

convert xml to java object using jaxb (unmarshal)

Tests

On the Tests class we will add an @XmlRootElement annotation. Doing this will let your JAXB implementation know that when a document starts with this element that it should instantiate this class. JAXB is configuration by exception, this means you only need to add annotations where your mapping differs from the default. Since the testData property differs from the default mapping we will use the @XmlElement annotation. You may find the following tutorial helpful: http://wiki.eclipse.org/EclipseLink/Examples/MOXy/GettingStarted

package forum11221136;

import javax.xml.bind.annotation.*;

@XmlRootElement
public class Tests {

    TestData testData;

    @XmlElement(name="test-data")
    public TestData getTestData() {
        return testData;
    }

    public void setTestData(TestData testData) {
        this.testData = testData;
    }

}

TestData

On this class I used the @XmlType annotation to specify the order in which the elements should be ordered in. I added a testData property that appeared to be missing. I also used an @XmlElement annotation for the same reason as in the Tests class.

package forum11221136;

import java.util.List;
import javax.xml.bind.annotation.*;

@XmlType(propOrder={"title", "book", "count", "testData"})
public class TestData {
    String title;
    String book;
    String count;
    List<TestData> testData;

    public String getTitle() {
        return title;
    }
    public void setTitle(String title) {
        this.title = title;
    }
    public String getBook() {
        return book;
    }
    public void setBook(String book) {
        this.book = book;
    }
    public String getCount() {
        return count;
    }
    public void setCount(String count) {
        this.count = count;
    }
    @XmlElement(name="test-data")
    public List<TestData> getTestData() {
        return testData;
    }
    public void setTestData(List<TestData> testData) {
        this.testData = testData;
    }
}

Demo

Below is an example of how to use the JAXB APIs to read (unmarshal) the XML and populate your domain model and then write (marshal) the result back to XML.

package forum11221136;

import java.io.File;
import javax.xml.bind.*;

public class Demo {

    public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception {
        JAXBContext jc = JAXBContext.newInstance(Tests.class);

        Unmarshaller unmarshaller = jc.createUnmarshaller();
        File xml = new File("src/forum11221136/input.xml");
        Tests tests = (Tests) unmarshaller.unmarshal(xml);

        Marshaller marshaller = jc.createMarshaller();
        marshaller.setProperty(Marshaller.JAXB_FORMATTED_OUTPUT, true);
        marshaller.marshal(tests, System.out);
    }

}

How to fade changing background image

Building on Rampant Creative Group's solution above, I was using jQuery to change the background image of the body tag:

e.g.

$('body').css({'background': 'url(/wp-content/themes/opdemand/img/bg-sea.jpg) fixed', 'background-size': '100% 100%'});

$('body').css({'background': 'url(/wp-content/themes/opdemand/img/bg-trees.jpg) fixed', 'background-size': '100% 100%'});

I had a javascript timer that switched between the two statements.

All I had to do to solve the issue of creating a fadeOut -> fadeIn effect was use Rampant Creative Group's suggestion and add

transition: background 1.5s linear;

to my code. Now it fades out and in beautifully.

Thanks Rampant Creative Group's and SoupEnvy for the edit!!

Case statement in MySQL

I hope this would provide you with the right solution:

Syntax:

   CASE
        WHEN search_condition THEN statement_list
       [WHEN search_condition THEN statement_list]....
       [ELSE statement_list]
   END CASE

Implementation:

select id, action_heading,
   case when
             action_type="Expense" then action_amount
             else NULL
             end as Expense_amt,
    case when
             action_type ="Income" then action_amount
             else NULL
             end as Income_amt
  from tbl_transaction;

Here I am using CASE statement as it is more flexible than if-then-else. It allows more than one branch. And CASE statement is standard SQL and works in most databases.

remove attribute display:none; so the item will be visible

The jQuery you're using is manipulates the DOM, not the CSS itself. Try changing the word span in your CSS to .mySpan, then apply that class to one or more DOM elements in your HTML like so:

...
<span class="mySpan">...</span>
...

Then, change your jQuery as follows:

$(".mySpan").css({ display : inline });

This should work much better.

Good luck!

How to enable directory listing in apache web server

According to the Apache documentation, found here, the DirectoryIndex directive needs to be specified in the site .conf file (typically found in /etc/apache2/sites-available on linux).

Quoting from the docs, it reads:

If no file from the DirectoryIndex directive can be located in the directory, then mod_autoindex can generate a listing of the directory contents. This is turned on and off using the Options directive. For example, to turn on directory listings for a particular directory, you can use:

<Directory /usr/local/apache2/htdocs/listme>
  Options +Indexes
</Directory>

To prevent directory listings (for security purposes, for example), you should remove the Indexes keyword from every Options directive in your configuration file. Or to prevent them only for a single directory, you can use:

<Directory /usr/local/apache2/htdocs/dontlistme>
  Options -Indexes
</Directory>

Extension mysqli is missing, phpmyadmin doesn't work

I solved this problem by editing /usr/local/zend/etc/php.ini.

(found it by doing netstat -nlp ¦ grep apache, then strace -p somepid ¦ grep php.ini).

At the end of the file, I added:

extension=/usr/lib/php5/20090626+lfs/mysql.so
extension=/usr/lib/php5/20090626+lfs/mysqli.so
extension=/usr/lib/php5/20090626+lfs/mcrypt.so

Adding it without the path did not work.

Then after a restart it worked.

Why is there no multiple inheritance in Java, but implementing multiple interfaces is allowed?

Java supports multiple inheritance through interfaces only. A class can implement any number of interfaces but can extend only one class.

Multiple inheritance is not supported because it leads to deadly diamond problem. However, it can be solved but it leads to complex system so multiple inheritance has been dropped by Java founders.

In a white paper titled “Java: an Overview” by James Gosling in February 1995(link) gives an idea on why multiple inheritance is not supported in Java.

According to Gosling:

"JAVA omits many rarely used, poorly understood, confusing features of C++ that in our experience bring more grief than bene?t. This primarily consists of operator overloading (although it does have method overloading), multiple inheritance, and extensive automatic coercions."

That depends. Is it just a variable (in a method)? Or a class-member?

If it's just a variable you'll get an error that no value has been set when trying to read from it without first assinging it a value.

If it's a class-member it will be initialized to null by the VM.

How to find the kafka version in linux

There are several methods to find kafka version

Method 1 simple:-

ps -ef|grep kafka

it will displays all running kafka clients in the console... Ex:- /usr/hdp/current/kafka-broker/bin/../libs/kafka-clients-0.10.0.2.5.3.0-37.jar we are using 0.10.0.2.5.3.0-37 version of kafka

Method 2:- go to

cd /usr/hdp/current/kafka-broker/libs
ll |grep kafka

Ex:- kafka_2.10-0.10.0.2.5.3.0-37.jar kafka-clients-0.10.0.2.5.3.0-37.jar

same result as method 1 we can find the version of kafka using in kafka libs.

Reversing a String with Recursion in Java

You need to remember that you won't have just one call - you'll have nested calls. So when the "most highly nested" call returns immediately (when it finds just "o"), the next level up will take str.charAt(0) - where str is "lo" at that point. So that will return "ol".

Then the next level will receive "ol", execute str.charAt(0) for its value of str (which is "llo"), returning "oll" to the next level out.

Then the next level will receive the "oll" from its recursive call, execute str.charAt(0) for its value of str (which is "ello"), returning "olle" to the next level out.

Then the final level will receive the "oll" from its recursive call, execute str.charAt(0) for its value of str (which is "hello"), returning "olleh" to the original caller.

It may make sense to think of the stack as you go:

// Most deeply nested call first...
reverse("o") -> returns "o"
reverse("lo") -> adds 'l', returns "ol"
reverse("llo") -> adds 'l', returns "oll"
reverse("ello") -> adds 'e', returns "olle"
reverse("hello") -> adds 'h', returns "olleh"

Ascii/Hex convert in bash

I use:

> echo Aa | tr -d '\n' | xxd -p
4161

> echo 414161 | tr -d '\n' | xxd -r -p
AAa

The tr -d '\n' will trim any possible newlines in your input

How to lock specific cells but allow filtering and sorting

This is a very old, but still very useful thread. I came here recently with the same issue. I suggest protecting the sheet when appropriate and unprotecting it when the filter row (eg Row 1) is selected. My solution doesn't use password protection - I don't need it (its a safeguard, not a security feature). I can't find an event handler that recognizes selection of a filter button - so I gave the instruction to my users to first select the filter cell then click the filter button. Here's what I advocate, (I only change protection if it needs to be changed, that may or may not save time - I don't know, but it "feels" right):

Private Sub Worksheet_SelectionChange(ByVal Target As Range)
  Const FilterRow = 1
  Dim c As Range
  Dim NotFilterRow As Boolean
  Dim oldstate As Boolean
  Dim ws As Worksheet
  Set ws = ActiveSheet
  oldstate = ws.ProtectContents
  NotFilterRow = False
  For Each c In Target.Cells
     NotFilterRow = c.Row <> FilterRow
     If NotFilterRow Then Exit For
  Next c
  If NotFilterRow <> oldstate Then
     If NotFilterRow Then
        ws.Protect
     Else
        ws.Unprotect
     End If
  End If
  Set ws = Nothing
End Sub

Export P7b file with all the certificate chain into CER file

I had similar problem extracting certificates from a file. This might not be the most best way to do it but it worked for me.

openssl pkcs7 -inform DER -print_certs -in <path of the file> | awk 'split_after==1{n++;split_after=0} /-----END CERTIFICATE-----/ {split_after=1} {print > "cert" n ".pem"}'

Cannot find reference 'xxx' in __init__.py - Python / Pycharm

This is a bug in pycharm. PyCharm seems to be expecting the referenced module to be included in an __all__ = [] statement.

For proper coding etiquette, should you include the __all__ statement from your modules? ..this is actually the question we hear young Spock answering while he was being tested, to which he responded: "It is morally praiseworthy but not morally obligatory."

To get around it, you can simply disable that (extremely non-critical) (highly useful) inspection globally, or suppress it for the specific function or statement.

To do so:

  • put the caret over the erroring text ('choice', from your example above)
  • Bring up the intention menu (alt-enter by default, mine is set to alt-backspace)
  • hit the right arrow to open the submenu, and select the relevant action

PyCharm has its share of small bugs like this, but in my opinion its benefits far outweigh its drawbacks. If you'd like to try another good IDE, there's also Spyder/Spyderlib.

I know this is quite a bit after you asked your question, but I hope this helps (you, or someone else).

Edited: Originally, I thought that this was specific to checking __all__, but it looks like it's the more general 'Unresolved References' check, which can be very useful. It's probably best to use statement-level disabling of the feature, either by using the menu as mentioned above, or by specifying # noinspection PyUnresolvedReferences on the line preceding the statement.

How can I stop .gitignore from appearing in the list of untracked files?

I found that the best place to set up an ignore to the pesky .DS_Store files is in the .git/info/exclude file.

IntelliJ seems to do this automatically when you set up a git repository in it.

Android background music service

@Synxmax's answer is correct when using a Service and the MediaPlayer class, however you also need to declare the Service in the Manifest for this to work, like so:

<service
    android:enabled="true"
    android:name="com.package.name.BackgroundSoundService" />

How to define the css :hover state in a jQuery selector?

I know this has an accepted answer but if anyone comes upon this, my solution may help.

I found this question because I have a use-case where I wanted to turn off the :hover state for elements individually. Since there is no way to do this in the DOM, another good way to do it is to define a class in CSS that overrides the hover state.

For instance, the css:

.nohover:hover {
    color: black !important;
}

Then with jQuery:

$("#elm").addClass("nohover");

With this method, you can override as many DOM elements as you would like without binding tons of onHover events.

Checking Maven Version

i faced with similar issue when i first installed it. It worked when i added user variable name- PATH and variable value- C:\Program Files\apache-maven-3.5.3\bin

variable value should direct to "bin" folder. finally check with cmd (mvn -v) in a new cmd prompt. Good Luck :)

What's HTML character code 8203?

I have these characters show up in scripts where I do not desire them. I noticed because it ruins my HTML/CSS visual formatting : it makes a new text box.

Pretty sure a buggy editor is adding them... I suspect Komodo Edit for the Mac, in my case.

Binding a generic list to a repeater - ASP.NET

You should use ToList() method. (Don't forget about System.Linq namespace)

ex.:

IList<Model> models = Builder<Model>.CreateListOfSize(10).Build();
List<Model> lstMOdels = models.ToList();

Push local Git repo to new remote including all branches and tags

Based in @Daniel answer I did:

for remote in \`git branch | grep -v master\`
do
    git push -u origin $remote
done

Why doesn't list have safe "get" method like dictionary?

So I did some more research into this and it turns out there isn't anything specific for this. I got excited when I found list.index(value), it returns the index of a specified item, but there isn't anything for getting the value at a specific index. So if you don't want to use the safe_list_get solution which I think is pretty good. Here are some 1 liner if statements that can get the job done for you depending on the scenario:

>>> x = [1, 2, 3]
>>> el = x[4] if len(x) > 4 else 'No'
>>> el
'No'

You can also use None instead of 'No', which makes more sense.:

>>> x = [1, 2, 3]
>>> i = 2
>>> el_i = x[i] if len(x) == i+1 else None

Also if you want to just get the first or last item in the list, this works

end_el = x[-1] if x else None

You can also make these into functions but I still liked the IndexError exception solution. I experimented with a dummied down version of the safe_list_get solution and made it a bit simpler (no default):

def list_get(l, i):
    try:
        return l[i]
    except IndexError:
        return None

Haven't benchmarked to see what is fastest.

iPhone and WireShark

I recommend Charles Web Proxy

Charles is an HTTP proxy / HTTP monitor / Reverse Proxy that enables a developer to view all of the HTTP and SSL / HTTPS traffic between their machine and the Internet. This includes requests, responses and the HTTP headers (which contain the cookies and caching information).

  • SSL Proxying – view SSL requests and responses in plain text
  • Bandwidth Throttling to simulate slower Internet connections including latency
  • AJAX debugging – view XML and JSON requests and responses as a tree or as text
  • AMF – view the contents of Flash Remoting / Flex Remoting messages as a tree
  • Repeat requests to test back-end changes, Edit requests to test different inputs
  • Breakpoints to intercept and edit requests or responses
  • Validate recorded HTML, CSS and RSS/atom responses using the W3C validator

It's cross-platform, written in JAVA, and pretty good. Not nearly as overwhelming as Wireshark, and does a lot of the annoying stuff like setting up the proxies, etc. for you. The only bad part is that it costs money, $50 at that. Not cheap, but a useful tool.

Read more about Charles's features.

Update multiple rows using select statement

    JOIN
    Table2 t2 ON t1.ID=t2.ID
SET
    t1.value =t2.value
WHERE
    ...

Is there a limit on how much JSON can hold?

JSON is similar to other data formats like XML - if you need to transmit more data, you just send more data. There's no inherent size limitation to the JSON request. Any limitation would be set by the server parsing the request. (For instance, ASP.NET has the "MaxJsonLength" property of the serializer.)

How do I raise the same Exception with a custom message in Python?

This only works with Python 3. You can modify the exception's original arguments and add your own arguments.

An exception remembers the args it was created with. I presume this is so that you can modify the exception.

In the function reraise we prepend the exception's original arguments with any new arguments that we want (like a message). Finally we re-raise the exception while preserving the trace-back history.

def reraise(e, *args):
  '''re-raise an exception with extra arguments
  :param e: The exception to reraise
  :param args: Extra args to add to the exception
  '''

  # e.args is a tuple of arguments that the exception with instantiated with.
  #
  e.args = args + e.args

  # Recreate the expection and preserve the traceback info so thta we can see
  # where this exception originated.
  #
  raise e.with_traceback(e.__traceback__)

How do I view cookies in Internet Explorer 11 using Developer Tools

Update 2018 for Microsoft Edge Developer Tools

The Dev Tools in Edge finally added support for managing and browsing cookies.

Note: Even if you are testing and supporting IE targets, you mine as well do the heavy lifting of your browser compatibility testing by leveraging the new tooling in Edge, and defer checking in IE 11 (etc) for the last leg.

Debugger Panel > Cookies Manager

Debugger Tab

Network Panel > Request Details > Cookies

Network Tab

The benefit, of course, to the debugger tab is you don't have to hunt and peck for individual cookies across multiple different and historical requests.

link_to image tag. how to add class to a tag

Hey guys this is a good way of link w/ image and has lot of props in case you want to css attribute for example replace "alt" or "title" etc.....also including a logical restriction (?)

Write variable to a file in Ansible

We can directly specify the destination file with the dest option now. In the below example, the output json is stored into the /tmp/repo_version_file

    password: xxxxx
    headers:
      "X-Requested-By": "ambari"
      "Content-type": "Application/json"

How to mock static methods in c# using MOQ framework?

Moq cannot mock a static member of a class.

When designing code for testability it's important to avoid static members (and singletons). A design pattern that can help you refactoring your code for testability is Dependency Injection.

This means changing this:

public class Foo
{
    public Foo()
    {
        Bar = new Bar();
    }
}

to

public Foo(IBar bar)
{
    Bar = bar;
}

This allows you to use a mock from your unit tests. In production you use a Dependency Injection tool like Ninject or Unity wich can wire everything together.

I wrote a blog about this some time ago. It explains which patterns an be used for better testable code. Maybe it can help you: Unit Testing, hell or heaven?

Another solution could be to use the Microsoft Fakes Framework. This is not a replacement for writing good designed testable code but it can help you out. The Fakes framework allows you to mock static members and replace them at runtime with your own custom behavior.

Dependency Injection vs Factory Pattern

In simple terms Dependency Injection vs Factory method implies push vs pull mechanism respectively.

Pull mechanism : class indirectly have dependency on Factory Method which in turn have dependency on concrete classes.

Push mechanism : Root component can be configured with all dependent components in a single location and thus promoting high maintenance and loose coupling.

With Factory method responsibility still lies with class (though indirectly) to create new object where as with dependency injection that responsibility is outsourced (at the cost of leaking abstraction though)

CSS z-index not working (position absolute)

How about this?

http://jsfiddle.net/P7c9q/4/

<div class="relative">
  <div class="yellow-div"></div>
  <div class="yellow-div"></div>
  <div class="absolute"></div>
</div>

.relative{
position:relative;
}

.absolute {
position:absolute;
width: 40px;
height: 100px;
background: #000;
z-index: 1;
top:30px;
left:0px;
}
.yellow-div {
position:relative;
width: 200px;
height: 50px;
background: yellow;
margin-bottom:4px;
z-index:0;
}

use the relative div as wrapper and let the yellow div's have normal positioning.

Only the black block need to have an absolute position then.

How do I set up a simple delegate to communicate between two view controllers?

Simple example...

Let's say the child view controller has a UISlider and we want to pass the value of the slider back to the parent via a delegate.

In the child view controller's header file, declare the delegate type and its methods:

ChildViewController.h

#import <UIKit/UIKit.h>

// 1. Forward declaration of ChildViewControllerDelegate - this just declares
// that a ChildViewControllerDelegate type exists so that we can use it
// later.
@protocol ChildViewControllerDelegate;

// 2. Declaration of the view controller class, as usual
@interface ChildViewController : UIViewController

// Delegate properties should always be weak references
// See http://stackoverflow.com/a/4796131/263871 for the rationale
// (Tip: If you're not using ARC, use `assign` instead of `weak`)
@property (nonatomic, weak) id<ChildViewControllerDelegate> delegate;

// A simple IBAction method that I'll associate with a close button in
// the UI. We'll call the delegate's childViewController:didChooseValue:
// method inside this handler.
- (IBAction)handleCloseButton:(id)sender;

@end

// 3. Definition of the delegate's interface
@protocol ChildViewControllerDelegate <NSObject>

- (void)childViewController:(ChildViewController*)viewController
             didChooseValue:(CGFloat)value;

@end

In the child view controller's implementation, call the delegate methods as required.

ChildViewController.m

#import "ChildViewController.h"

@implementation ChildViewController

- (void)handleCloseButton:(id)sender {
    // Xcode will complain if we access a weak property more than
    // once here, since it could in theory be nilled between accesses
    // leading to unpredictable results. So we'll start by taking
    // a local, strong reference to the delegate.
    id<ChildViewControllerDelegate> strongDelegate = self.delegate;

    // Our delegate method is optional, so we should
    // check that the delegate implements it
    if ([strongDelegate respondsToSelector:@selector(childViewController:didChooseValue:)]) {
        [strongDelegate childViewController:self didChooseValue:self.slider.value];
    }
}

@end

In the parent view controller's header file, declare that it implements the ChildViewControllerDelegate protocol.

RootViewController.h

#import <UIKit/UIKit.h>
#import "ChildViewController.h"

@interface RootViewController : UITableViewController <ChildViewControllerDelegate>

@end

In the parent view controller's implementation, implement the delegate methods appropriately.

RootViewController.m

#import "RootViewController.h"

@implementation RootViewController

- (void)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView didSelectRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath {
    ChildViewController *detailViewController = [[ChildViewController alloc] init];
    // Assign self as the delegate for the child view controller
    detailViewController.delegate = self;
    [self.navigationController pushViewController:detailViewController animated:YES];
}

// Implement the delegate methods for ChildViewControllerDelegate
- (void)childViewController:(ChildViewController *)viewController didChooseValue:(CGFloat)value {

    // Do something with value...

    // ...then dismiss the child view controller
    [self.navigationController popViewControllerAnimated:YES];
}

@end

Hope this helps!

How to download Visual Studio 2017 Community Edition for offline installation?

  • Saved the "vs_professional.exe" in my user Download directory, didn't work in any other disk or path.
  • Installed the certificate, without the reboot.
  • Executed the customized (2 languages and some workloads) command from administrative Command Prompt window targetting an offline root folder on a secondary disk "E:\vs2017offline".

Never thought MS could distribute this way, I understand that people downloading Visual Studio should have advanced knowledge of computers and OS but this is like a jump in time to 30 years back.

Adding values to an array in java

  • First line : array created.
  • Third line loop started from j = 1 to j = 28123
  • Fourth line you give the variable x value (0) each time the loop is accessed.

  • Sixth line you do increment to the value x by 1.(but it will be reset to 0 at line 4)

Add multiple items to a list

Code check:

This is offtopic here but the people over at CodeReview are more than happy to help you.

I strongly suggest you to do so, there are several things that need attention in your code. Likewise I suggest that you do start reading tutorials since there is really no good reason not to do so.

Lists:

As you said yourself: you need a list of items. The way it is now you only store a reference to one item. Lucky there is exactly that to hold a group of related objects: a List.

Lists are very straightforward to use but take a look at the related documentation anyway.

A very simple example to keep multiple bikes in a list:

List<Motorbike> bikes = new List<Motorbike>();

bikes.add(new Bike { make = "Honda", color = "brown" });
bikes.add(new Bike { make = "Vroom", color = "red" });

And to iterate over the list you can use the foreach statement:

foreach(var bike in bikes) {
     Console.WriteLine(bike.make);
}

How to use Git Revert

git revert makes a new commit

git revert simply creates a new commit that is the opposite of an existing commit.

It leaves the files in the same state as if the commit that has been reverted never existed. For example, consider the following simple example:

$ cd /tmp/example
$ git init
Initialized empty Git repository in /tmp/example/.git/
$ echo "Initial text" > README.md
$ git add README.md
$ git commit -m "initial commit"
[master (root-commit) 3f7522e] initial commit
 1 file changed, 1 insertion(+)
 create mode 100644 README.md
$ echo "bad update" > README.md
$ git commit -am "bad update"
[master a1b9870] bad update
 1 file changed, 1 insertion(+), 1 deletion(-)

In this example the commit history has two commits and the last one is a mistake. Using git revert:

$ git revert HEAD
[master 1db4eeb] Revert "bad update"
 1 file changed, 1 insertion(+), 1 deletion(-)

There will be 3 commits in the log:

$ git log --oneline
1db4eeb Revert "bad update"
a1b9870 bad update
3f7522e initial commit

So there is a consistent history of what has happened, yet the files are as if the bad update never occured:

cat README.md
Initial text

It doesn't matter where in the history the commit to be reverted is (in the above example, the last commit is reverted - any commit can be reverted).

Closing questions

do you have to do something else after?

A git revert is just another commit, so e.g. push to the remote so that other users can pull/fetch/merge the changes and you're done.

Do you have to commit the changes revert made or does revert directly commit to the repo?

git revert is a commit - there are no extra steps assuming reverting a single commit is what you wanted to do.

Obviously you'll need to push again and probably announce to the team.

Indeed - if the remote is in an unstable state - communicating to the rest of the team that they need to pull to get the fix (the reverting commit) would be the right thing to do :).

why are there two different kinds of for loops in java?

Using the first for-loop you manually enumerate through the array by increasing an index to the length of the array, then getting the value at the current index manually.

The latter syntax is added in Java 5 and enumerates an array by using an Iterator instance under the hoods. You then have only access to the object (not the index) and you won't be able to adjust the array while enumerating.

It's convenient when you just want to perform some actions on all objects in an array.

python convert list to dictionary

If you are still thinking what the! You would not be alone, its actually not that complicated really, let me explain.

How to turn a list into a dictionary using built-in functions only

We want to turn the following list into a dictionary using the odd entries (counting from 1) as keys mapped to their consecutive even entries.

l = ["a", "b", "c", "d", "e"]

dict()

To create a dictionary we can use the built in dict function for Mapping Types as per the manual the following methods are supported.

dict(one=1, two=2)
dict({'one': 1, 'two': 2})
dict(zip(('one', 'two'), (1, 2)))
dict([['two', 2], ['one', 1]])

The last option suggests that we supply a list of lists with 2 values or (key, value) tuples, so we want to turn our sequential list into:

l = [["a", "b"], ["c", "d"], ["e",]]

We are also introduced to the zip function, one of the built-in functions which the manual explains:

returns a list of tuples, where the i-th tuple contains the i-th element from each of the arguments

In other words if we can turn our list into two lists a, c, e and b, d then zip will do the rest.

slice notation

Slicings which we see used with Strings and also further on in the List section which mainly uses the range or short slice notation but this is what the long slice notation looks like and what we can accomplish with step:

>>> l[::2]
['a', 'c', 'e']

>>> l[1::2]
['b', 'd']

>>> zip(['a', 'c', 'e'], ['b', 'd'])
[('a', 'b'), ('c', 'd')]

>>> dict(zip(l[::2], l[1::2]))
{'a': 'b', 'c': 'd'}

Even though this is the simplest way to understand the mechanics involved there is a downside because slices are new list objects each time, as can be seen with this cloning example:

>>> a = [1, 2, 3]
>>> b = a
>>> b
[1, 2, 3]

>>> b is a
True

>>> b = a[:]
>>> b
[1, 2, 3]

>>> b is a
False

Even though b looks like a they are two separate objects now and this is why we prefer to use the grouper recipe instead.

grouper recipe

Although the grouper is explained as part of the itertools module it works perfectly fine with the basic functions too.

Some serious voodoo right? =) But actually nothing more than a bit of syntax sugar for spice, the grouper recipe is accomplished by the following expression.

*[iter(l)]*2

Which more or less translates to two arguments of the same iterator wrapped in a list, if that makes any sense. Lets break it down to help shed some light.

zip for shortest

>>> l*2
['a', 'b', 'c', 'd', 'e', 'a', 'b', 'c', 'd', 'e']

>>> [l]*2
[['a', 'b', 'c', 'd', 'e'], ['a', 'b', 'c', 'd', 'e']]

>>> [iter(l)]*2
[<listiterator object at 0x100486450>, <listiterator object at 0x100486450>]

>>> zip([iter(l)]*2)
[(<listiterator object at 0x1004865d0>,),(<listiterator object at 0x1004865d0>,)]

>>> zip(*[iter(l)]*2)
[('a', 'b'), ('c', 'd')]

>>> dict(zip(*[iter(l)]*2))
{'a': 'b', 'c': 'd'}

As you can see the addresses for the two iterators remain the same so we are working with the same iterator which zip then first gets a key from and then a value and a key and a value every time stepping the same iterator to accomplish what we did with the slices much more productively.

You would accomplish very much the same with the following which carries a smaller What the? factor perhaps.

>>> it = iter(l)
>>> dict(zip(it, it))
{'a': 'b', 'c': 'd'}

What about the empty key e if you've noticed it has been missing from all the examples which is because zip picks the shortest of the two arguments, so what are we to do.

Well one solution might be adding an empty value to odd length lists, you may choose to use append and an if statement which would do the trick, albeit slightly boring, right?

>>> if len(l) % 2:
...     l.append("")

>>> l
['a', 'b', 'c', 'd', 'e', '']

>>> dict(zip(*[iter(l)]*2))
{'a': 'b', 'c': 'd', 'e': ''}

Now before you shrug away to go type from itertools import izip_longest you may be surprised to know it is not required, we can accomplish the same, even better IMHO, with the built in functions alone.

map for longest

I prefer to use the map() function instead of izip_longest() which not only uses shorter syntax doesn't require an import but it can assign an actual None empty value when required, automagically.

>>> l = ["a", "b", "c", "d", "e"]
>>> l
['a', 'b', 'c', 'd', 'e']

>>> dict(map(None, *[iter(l)]*2))
{'a': 'b', 'c': 'd', 'e': None}

Comparing performance of the two methods, as pointed out by KursedMetal, it is clear that the itertools module far outperforms the map function on large volumes, as a benchmark against 10 million records show.

$ time python -c 'dict(map(None, *[iter(range(10000000))]*2))'
real    0m3.755s
user    0m2.815s
sys     0m0.869s
$ time python -c 'from itertools import izip_longest; dict(izip_longest(*[iter(range(10000000))]*2, fillvalue=None))'
real    0m2.102s
user    0m1.451s
sys     0m0.539s

However the cost of importing the module has its toll on smaller datasets with map returning much quicker up to around 100 thousand records when they start arriving head to head.

$ time python -c 'dict(map(None, *[iter(range(100))]*2))'
real    0m0.046s
user    0m0.029s
sys     0m0.015s
$ time python -c 'from itertools import izip_longest; dict(izip_longest(*[iter(range(100))]*2, fillvalue=None))'
real    0m0.067s
user    0m0.042s
sys     0m0.021s

$ time python -c 'dict(map(None, *[iter(range(100000))]*2))'
real    0m0.074s
user    0m0.050s
sys     0m0.022s
$ time python -c 'from itertools import izip_longest; dict(izip_longest(*[iter(range(100000))]*2, fillvalue=None))'
real    0m0.075s
user    0m0.047s
sys     0m0.024s

See nothing to it! =)

How to get the parents of a Python class?

Use bases if you just want to get the parents, use __mro__ (as pointed out by @naught101) for getting the method resolution order (so to know in which order the init's were executed).

Bases (and first getting the class for an existing object):

>>> some_object = "some_text"
>>> some_object.__class__.__bases__
(object,)

For mro in recent Python versions:

>>> some_object = "some_text"
>>> some_object.__class__.__mro__
(str, object)

Obviously, when you already have a class definition, you can just call __mro__ on that directly:

>>> class A(): pass
>>> A.__mro__
(__main__.A, object)

Can a shell script set environment variables of the calling shell?

Your shell process has a copy of the parent's environment and no access to the parent process's environment whatsoever. When your shell process terminates any changes you've made to its environment are lost. Sourcing a script file is the most commonly used method for configuring a shell environment, you may just want to bite the bullet and maintain one for each of the two flavors of shell.

How can I override inline styles with external CSS?

inline-styles in a document have the highest priority, so for example say if you want to change the color of a div element to blue, but you've an inline style with a color property set to red

<div style="font-size: 18px; color: red;">
   Hello World, How Can I Change The Color To Blue?
</div>
div {
   color: blue;
   /* This Won't Work, As Inline Styles Have Color Red And As
      Inline Styles Have Highest Priority, We Cannot Over Ride
      The Color Using An Element Selector */
}

So, Should I Use jQuery/Javascript? - Answer Is NO

We can use element-attr CSS Selector with !important, note, !important is important here, else it won't over ride the inline styles..

<div style="font-size: 30px; color: red;">
    This is a test to see whether the inline styles can be over ridden with CSS?
</div>
div[style] {
   font-size: 12px !important;
   color: blue !important;
}

Demo

Note: Using !important ONLY will work here, but I've used div[style] selector to specifically select div having style attribute

Editing the date formatting of x-axis tick labels in matplotlib

From the package matplotlib.dates as shown in this example the date format can be applied to the axis label and ticks for plot.

Below I have given an example for labeling axis ticks for multiplots

import matplotlib.pyplot as plt
import matplotlib.dates as mdates
import pandas as pd

df = pd.read_csv('US_temp.csv')
plt.plot(df['Date'],df_f['MINT'],label='Min Temp.')
plt.plot(df['Date'],df_f['MAXT'],label='Max Temp.')
plt.legend()
####### Use the below functions #######
dtFmt = mdates.DateFormatter('%b') # define the formatting
plt.gca().xaxis.set_major_formatter(dtFmt) # apply the format to the desired axis
plt.show()

As simple as that

JavaScript to scroll long page to DIV

You can use Element.scrollIntoView() method as was mentioned above. If you leave it with no parameters inside you will have an instant ugly scroll. To prevent that you can add this parameter - behavior:"smooth".

Example:

document.getElementById('scroll-here-plz').scrollIntoView({behavior: "smooth", block: "start", inline: "nearest"});

Just replace scroll-here-plz with your div or element on a website. And if you see your element at the bottom of your window or the position is not what you would have expected, play with parameter block: "". You can use block: "start", block: "end" or block: "center".

Remember: Always use parameters inside an object {}.

If you would still have problems, go to https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/Element/scrollIntoView

There is detailed documentation for this method.

In Java, what is the best way to determine the size of an object?

You could generate a heap dump (with jmap, for example) and then analyze the output to find object sizes. This is an offline solution, but you can examine shallow and deep sizes, etc.

How to pass dictionary items as function arguments in python?

If you want to use them like that, define the function with the variable names as normal:

def my_function(school, standard, city, name):
    schoolName  = school
    cityName = city
    standardName = standard
    studentName = name

Now you can use ** when you call the function:

data = {'school':'DAV', 'standard': '7', 'name': 'abc', 'city': 'delhi'}

my_function(**data)

and it will work as you want.

P.S. Don't use reserved words such as class.(e.g., use klass instead)

System.Security.SecurityException when writing to Event Log

There does appear to be a glaringly obvious solution to this that I've yet to see a huge downside, at least where it's not practical to obtain administrative rights in order to create your own event source: Use one that's already there.

The two which I've started to make use of are ".Net Runtime" and "Application Error", both of which seem like they will be present on most machines.

Main disadvantages are inability to group by that event, and that you probably don't have an associated Event ID, which means the log entry may very well be prefixed with something to the effect of "The description for Event ID 0 from source .Net Runtime cannot be found...." if you omit it, but the log goes in, and the output looks broadly sensible.

The resultant code ends up looking like:

EventLog.WriteEntry(
    ".Net Runtime",
    "Some message text here, maybe an exception you want to log",
    EventLogEntryType.Error
    );

Of course, since there's always a chance you're on a machine that doesn't have those event sources for whatever reason, you probably want to try {} catch{} wrap it in case it fails and makes things worse, but events are now saveable.

How to open some ports on Ubuntu?

Ubuntu these days comes with ufw - Uncomplicated Firewall. ufw is an easy-to-use method of handling iptables rules.

Try using this command to allow a port

sudo ufw allow 1701

To test connectivity, you could try shutting down the VPN software (freeing up the ports) and using netcat to listen, like this:

nc -l 1701

Then use telnet from your Windows host and see what shows up on your Ubuntu terminal. This can be repeated for each port you'd like to test.

Difference between a theta join, equijoin and natural join

Cartesian product of two tables gives all the possible combinations of tuples like the example in mathematics the cross product of two sets . since many a times there are some junk values which occupy unnecessary space in the memory too so here joins comes to rescue which give the combination of only those attribute values which are required and are meaningful.

inner join gives the repeated field in the table twice whereas natural join here solves the problem by just filtering the repeated columns and displaying it only once.else, both works the same. natural join is more efficient since it preserves the memory .Also , redundancies are removed in natural join .

equi join of two tables are such that they display only those tuples which matches the value in other table . for example : let new1 and new2 be two tables . if sql query select * from new1 join new2 on new1.id = new.id (id is the same column in two tables) then start from new2 table and join which matches the id in second table . besides , non equi join do not have equality operator they have <,>,and between operator .

theta join consists of all the comparison operator including equality and others < , > comparison operator. when it uses equality(=) operator it is known as equi join .

How to get the type of T from a member of a generic class or method?

You can get the type of "T" from any collection type that implements IEnumerable<T> with the following:

public static Type GetCollectionItemType(Type collectionType)
{
    var types = collectionType.GetInterfaces()
        .Where(x => x.IsGenericType
            && x.GetGenericTypeDefinition() == typeof(IEnumerable<>))
        .ToArray();
    // Only support collections that implement IEnumerable<T> once.
    return types.Length == 1 ? types[0].GetGenericArguments()[0] : null;
}

Note that it doesn't support collection types that implement IEnumerable<T> twice, e.g.

public class WierdCustomType : IEnumerable<int>, IEnumerable<string> { ... }

I suppose you could return an array of types if you needed to support this...

Also, you might also want to cache the result per collection type if you're doing this a lot (e.g. in a loop).

What is a "static" function in C?

There is a big difference between static functions in C and static member functions in C++. In C, a static function is not visible outside of its translation unit, which is the object file it is compiled into. In other words, making a function static limits its scope. You can think of a static function as being "private" to its *.c file (although that is not strictly correct).

In C++, "static" can also apply to member functions and data members of classes. A static data member is also called a "class variable", while a non-static data member is an "instance variable". This is Smalltalk terminology. This means that there is only one copy of a static data member shared by all objects of a class, while each object has its own copy of a non-static data member. So a static data member is essentially a global variable, that is a member of a class.

Non-static member functions can access all data members of the class: static and non-static. Static member functions can only operate on the static data members.

One way to think about this is that in C++ static data members and static member functions do not belong to any object, but to the entire class.

Where's the IE7/8/9/10-emulator in IE11 dev tools?

I posted an answer to this already when someone else asked the same question (see How to bring back "Browser mode" in IE11?).

Read my answer there for a fuller explaination, but in short:

  • They removed it deliberately, because compat mode is not actually really very good for testing compatibility.

  • If you really want to test for compatibility with any given version of IE, you need to test in a real copy of that IE version. MS provide free VMs on http://modern.ie/ for you to use for this purpose.

  • The only way to get compat mode in IE11 is to set the X-UA-Compatible header. When you have this and the site defaults to compat mode, you will be able to set the mode in dev tools, but only between edge or the specified compat mode; other modes will still not be available.

How to bind multiple values to a single WPF TextBlock?

You can use a MultiBinding combined with the StringFormat property. Usage would resemble the following:

<TextBlock>
    <TextBlock.Text>
        <MultiBinding StringFormat="{}{0} + {1}">
            <Binding Path="Name" />
            <Binding Path="ID" />
        </MultiBinding>
    </TextBlock.Text>
</TextBlock>

Giving Name a value of Foo and ID a value of 1, your output in the TextBlock would then be Foo + 1.

Note: that this is only supported in .NET 3.5 SP1 and 3.0 SP2 or later.

Nginx Different Domains on Same IP

Your "listen" directives are wrong. See this page: http://nginx.org/en/docs/http/server_names.html.

They should be

}

server {
    listen       80;

Note, I have only included the relevant lines. Everything else looked okay but I just deleted it for clarity. To test it you might want to try serving a text file from each server first before actually serving php. That's why I left the 'root' directive in there.
