None of the previously given examples were meeting my needs completely, so I wrote my own queue that allows following functionality: iteration, index access, indexOf, lastIndexOf, get first, get last, offer, remaining capacity, expand capacity, dequeue last, dequeue first, enqueue / add element, dequeue / remove element, subQueueCopy, subArrayCopy, toArray, snapshot, basics like size, remove or contains.

Flushing buffers in C
Flushing the output buffers:

Can be a very helpful technique. Why would you want to flush an output buffer? Usually when I do it, it's because the code is crashing and I'm trying to debug something. The standard buffer will not print everytime you call printf()
it waits until it's full then dumps a bunch at once. So if you're trying to check if you're making it to a function call before a crash, it's helpful to printf
something like "got here!", and sometimes the buffer hasn't been flushed before the crash happens and you can't tell how far you've really gotten.
Another time that it's helpful, is in multi-process or multi-thread code. Again, the buffer doesn't always flush on a call to a printf()
, so if you want to know the true order of execution of multiple processes you should fflush the buffer after every print.
I make a habit to do it, it saves me a lot of headache in debugging. The only downside I can think of to doing so is that printf()
is an expensive operation (which is why it doesn't by default flush the buffer).
As far as flushing the input buffer (stdin
), you should not do that. Flushing stdin
is undefined behavior according to the C11 standard §7.21.5.2 part 2:
If stream points to an output stream ... the fflush function causes any unwritten data for that stream ... to be written to the file; otherwise, the behavior is undefined.
On some systems, Linux being one as you can see in the man page for fflush()
, there's a defined behavior but it's system dependent so your code will not be portable.
Now if you're worried about garbage "stuck" in the input buffer you can use fpurge()
on that.

The thing you may not realize is that the comparison happens after getchar()
removes the character from the input buffer. So when you reach the '\n'
, it is consumed and then you break out of the loop.
What is the use of ByteBuffer in Java?
The ByteBuffer class is important because it forms a basis for the use of channels in Java. ByteBuffer class defines six categories of operations upon byte buffers, as stated in the Java 7 documentation:

This is not how you initialize an array, but for:

As you can see, no random content: if there are fewer initializers, the remaining of the array is initialized with 0
. This the case even if the array is declared inside a function.

How do you determine the ideal buffer size when using FileInputStream?
Optimum buffer size is related to a number of things: file system block size, CPU cache size and cache latency.
Most file systems are configured to use block sizes of 4096 or 8192. In theory, if you configure your buffer size so you are reading a few bytes more than the disk block, the operations with the file system can be extremely inefficient (i.e. if you configured your buffer to read 4100 bytes at a time, each read would require 2 block reads by the file system). If the blocks are already in cache, then you wind up paying the price of RAM -> L3/L2 cache latency. If you are unlucky and the blocks are not in cache yet, the you pay the price of the disk->RAM latency as well.
This is why you see most buffers sized as a power of 2, and generally larger than (or equal to) the disk block size. This means that one of your stream reads could result in multiple disk block reads - but those reads will always use a full block - no wasted reads.
Now, this is offset quite a bit in a typical streaming scenario because the block that is read from disk is going to still be in memory when you hit the next read (we are doing sequential reads here, after all) - so you wind up paying the RAM -> L3/L2 cache latency price on the next read, but not the disk->RAM latency. In terms of order of magnitude, disk->RAM latency is so slow that it pretty much swamps any other latency you might be dealing with.
So, I suspect that if you ran a test with different cache sizes (haven't done this myself), you will probably find a big impact of cache size up to the size of the file system block. Above that, I suspect that things would level out pretty quickly.
There are a ton of conditions and exceptions here - the complexities of the system are actually quite staggering (just getting a handle on L3 -> L2 cache transfers is mind bogglingly complex, and it changes with every CPU type).
This leads to the 'real world' answer: If your app is like 99% out there, set the cache size to 8192 and move on (even better, choose encapsulation over performance and use BufferedInputStream to hide the details). If you are in the 1% of apps that are highly dependent on disk throughput, craft your implementation so you can swap out different disk interaction strategies, and provide the knobs and dials to allow your users to test and optimize (or come up with some self optimizing system).

you actually get the answer true
on different string instances with the same value:

As you can see, a
and b
must be different string instances, but because strings are immutable, the runtime uses so called string interning to let both a
and b
reference the same string in memory. The ==
operator for objects checks reference, and since both a

reference the same instance, the result is true
. When you change either one of them, a new string instance is created, which is why string interning is possible.
By the way, Jon Skeet's answer is not complete. Indeed, x == y
is false
but that is only because he is comparing objects and objects compare by reference. If you'd write (string)x == (string)y
, it will return true
again. So strings have their ==-operator overloaded, which calls String.Equals
underneath.

Oracle views like ALL_TABLES and ALL_CONSTRAINTS have an owner column, which you can use to restrict your query. There are also variants of these tables beginning with USER instead of ALL, which only list objects which can be accessed by the current user.
One of these views should help to solve your problem. They always worked fine for me for similar problems.
Windows equivalent of $export
There is not an equivalent statement for export in Windows Command Prompt.
In Windows the environment is copied so when you exit from the session (from a called command prompt or from an executable that set a variable) the variable in Windows get lost. You can set it in user registry or in machine registry via setx but you won't see it if you not start a new command prompt.
Rails 3.1 and Image Assets
For what it's worth, when I did this I found that no folder should be include in the path in the css file. For instance if I have app/assets/images/example.png
, and I put this in my css file...
div.example { background: url('example.png'); }
... then somehow it magically works. I figured this out by running the rake assets:precompile
task, which just sucks everything out of all your load paths and dumps it in a junk drawer folder: public/assets
. That's ironic, IMO...
In any case this means you don't need to put any folder paths, everything in your assets folders will all end up living in one huge directory. How this system resolves file name conflicts is unclear, you may need to be careful about that.
Kind of frustrating there aren't better docs out there for this big of a change.

. This means that you need to use the correct address for one of your network interfaces or 0.0.0.0
to accept connections from all interfaces.
The other solutions about ports only work after sometimes-failing black magic (like working after some computer restarts but not others) because the port is completely irrelevant.

to Dockerfile.db
or Dockerfile.web
, it may not be supported by your IDE and you will lose syntax highlighting.

I have tried this and it works. When you delete Role, also the relations are deleted (but not the Permission entities) and when you delete Permission, the relations with Role are deleted too (but not the Role instance). But we are mapping a unidirectional relation two times and both entities are the owner of the relation. Could this cause some problems to Hibernate? Which type of problems?

The first thing you should do is learn to read error messages. What does it tell you -- that you can't use two strings with the divide operator.
So, ask yourself why they are strings and how do you make them not-strings. They are strings because all input is done via strings. And the way to make then not-strings is to convert them.
One way to convert a string to an integer is to use the int function. For example:

How to make grep only match if the entire line matches?
Most suggestions will fail if there so much as a single leading or trailing space, which would matter if the file is being edited by hand. This would make it less susceptible in that case:

Finally I able resolve this issue.
Do not install Android SDK with studio package, unkcheck the option when asked.
Steps to resolve:
- Download latest android sdk, so while runnning studio first time it has not to download any exta packages. Unpack at /yourAndroidSDKPath
- Uncheck option, Android SDK, while installing studio.
- Give the /yourAndroidSDKPath in studio installation when asked.
It works for me.

How do I deal with corrupted Git object files?
In general, fixing corrupt objects can be pretty difficult. However, in this case, we're confident that the problem is an aborted transfer, meaning that the object is in a remote repository, so we should be able to safely remove our copy and let git get it from the remote, correctly this time.
The temporary object file, with zero size, can obviously just be removed. It's not going to do us any good. The corrupt object which refers to it, d4a0e75...
, is our real problem. It can be found in .git/objects/d4/a0e75...

Using an auxiliary Spannable Class as Android String Resources shares at the bottom of the webpage. You can approach this by creatingCharSquences
and giving them a style.
But in the example they give us, is just for bold, italic, and even colorize text. I needed to wrap several styles in aCharSequence
in order to set them in a TextView

Where/How to getIntent().getExtras() in an Android Fragment?
What I tend to do, and I believe this is what Google intended for developers to do too, is to still get the extras from an Intent
in an Activity
and then pass any extra data to fragments by instantiating them with arguments.
There's actually an example on the Android dev blog that illustrates this concept, and you'll see this in several of the API demos too. Although this specific example is given for API 3.0+ fragments, the same flow applies when using FragmentActivity
and Fragment
from the support library.
You first retrieve the intent extras as usual in your activity and pass them on as arguments to the fragment:

Hide "NFC Tag type not supported" error on Samsung Galaxy devices
Before Android 4.4
What you are trying to do is simply not possible from an app (at least not on a non-rooted/non-modified device). The message "NFC tag type not supported" is displayed by the Android system (or more specifically the NFC system service) before and instead of dispatching the tag to your app. This means that the NFC system service filters MIFARE Classic tags and never notifies any app about them. Consequently, your app can't detect MIFARE Classic tags or circumvent that popup message.
On a rooted device, you may be able to bypass the message using either
- Xposed to modify the behavior of the NFC service, or
the CSC (Consumer Software Customization) feature configuration files on the system partition (see /system/csc/. The NFC system service disables the popup and dispatches MIFARE Classic tags to apps if the CSC feature <CscFeature_NFC_EnableSecurityPromptPopup>
is set to any value but "mifareclassic" or "all". For instance, you could use:

How to properly stop the Thread in Java?
For synchronizing threads I prefer using CountDownLatch
which helps threads to wait until the process being performed complete. In this case, the worker class is set up with a CountDownLatch
instance with a given count. A call to await
method will block until the current count reaches zero due to invocations of the countDown
method or the timeout set is reached. This approach allows interrupting a thread instantly without having to wait for the specified waiting time to elapse:

You could try updating the table to get rid of these characters:

Please confirm that this code on its own (well, the first SELECT

If it does then the error you are getting is from a different non-numeric character in a different row (and if it doesn't then perhaps you have a build where a particular bug hasn't been fixed). To try and narrow it down you can take random values from the following query and then loop through the characters:

store your parameter in a hidden UILabel. then add this UILabel as subview of UIButton.
when button is clicked, we can have a check on UIButton's all subviews. normally only 2 UILabel in it.
one is UIButton's title, the other is the one you just added. read that UILabel's text property, you will get the parameter.

will return you a string representation of a list, but it is actually still a string. Just check the type of data
with type(data)
. That means if you try using indexing on this string representation of a list as such data['fruits'][0]
, it will return you "[" as it is the first character of data['fruits']
You can do json.loads(data['fruits'])

What does "use strict" do in JavaScript, and what is the reasoning behind it?
"use strict"; Defines that JavaScript code should be executed in
"strict mode".
- The "use strict" directive was new in ECMAScript version 5.
- It is not a statement, but a literal expression, ignored by earlier
versions of JavaScript.
- The purpose of "use strict" is to indicate that the code should be
executed in "strict mode".
- With strict mode, you can not, for example, use undeclared variables.
All modern browsers support "use strict" except Internet Explorer 9 and lower.
Disadvantage
If a developer used a library that was in strict mode, but the developer was used to working in normal mode, they might call some actions on the library that wouldn’t work as expected.
Worse, since the developer is in normal mode, they don’t have the advantages of extra errors being thrown, so the error might fail silently.
Also, as listed above, strict mode stops you from doing certain things.
People generally think that you shouldn’t use those things in the first place, but some developers don’t like the constraint and want to use all the features of the language.

What's an appropriate HTTP status code to return by a REST API service for a validation failure?
I would say technically it might not be an HTTP failure, since the resource was (presumably) validly specified, the user was authenticated, and there was no operational failure (however even the spec does include some reserved codes like 402 Payment Required which aren't strictly speaking HTTP-related either, though it might be advisable to have that at the protocol level so that any device can recognize the condition).
If that's actually the case, I would add a status field to the response with application errors, like

How to index into a dictionary?
Dictionaries are unordered in Python versions up to and including Python 3.6. If you do not care about the order of the entries and want to access the keys or values by index anyway, you can use d.keys()[i]
and d.values()[i]
or d.items()[i]
. (Note that these methods create a list of all keys, values or items in Python 2.x. So if you need them more then once, store the list in a variable to improve performance.)
If you do care about the order of the entries, starting with Python 2.7 you can use collections.OrderedDict

Oracle SQL Developer and PostgreSQL
I've just downloaded SQL Developer 4.0 for OS X (10.9), it just got out of beta. I also downloaded the latest Postgres JDBC jar. On a lark I decided to install it (same method as other third party db drivers in SQL Dev), and it accepted it. Whenever I click "new connection", there is a tab now for Postgres... and clicking it shows a panel that asks for the database connection details.
The answer to this question has changed, whether or not it is supported, it seems to work. There is a "choose database" button, that if clicked, gives you a dropdown list filled with available postgres databases. You create the connection, open it, and it lists the schemas in that database. Most postgres commands seem to work, though no psql commands (\list, etc).
Those who need a single tool to connect to multiple database engines can now use SQL Developer.

The only reason is that Unix historically had a convention of all human-readable text files ending in a newline. At the time, this avoided extra processing when displaying or joining text files, and avoided treating text files differently to files containing other kinds of data (eg raw binary data which isn't human-readable).
Because of this convention, many tools from that era expect the ending newline, including text editors, diffing tools, and other text processing tools. Mac OS X was built on BSD Unix, and Linux was developed to be Unix-compatible, so both operating systems have inherited the same convention, behaviour and tools.
Windows wasn't developed to be Unix-compatible, so it doesn't have the same convention, and most Windows software will deal just fine with no trailing newline.
But, since Git was developed for Linux first, and a lot of open-source software is built on Unix-compatible systems like Linux, Mac OS X, FreeBSD, etc, most open-source communities and their tools (including programming languages) continue to follow these conventions.
There are technical reasons which made sense in 1971, but in this era it's mostly convention and maintaining compatibility with existing tools.

In macOS, i had to source it using source ~/.nvm/nvm.sh

Excel Formula: Count cells where value is date
Here is how I was able to trick Excel to count expired certifications in a list. I didn't have a set date, or date range, just current date. "TODAY()" doesn't work in these for Excel 2013. It sees it as text or condition, not the date value. So these previous didn't work for me.
So the word problem/scenario: How many people are expired in this list?
Use: =IFERROR(D5-TODAY(),0)
Where D5 is the date to be interrogated.
Then use: =IF(J5>=1,1,0)
Where J5 is the cell where the first equation is producing either a positive or negative number.
This set, I have hidden on the side of the visible sheet, then I just sum the total for the number of unexpired members.
Set a cookie to HttpOnly via Javascript
An HttpOnly
cookie means that it's not available to scripting languages like JavaScript. So in JavaScript, there's absolutely no API available to get/set the HttpOnly
attribute of the cookie, as that would otherwise defeat the meaning of HttpOnly

Just set it as such on the server side using whatever server side language the server side is using. If JavaScript is absolutely necessary for this, you could consider to just let it send some (ajax) request with e.g. some specific request parameter which triggers the server side language to create an HttpOnly cookie. But, that would still make it easy for hackers to change the HttpOnly
by just XSS and still have access to the cookie via JS and thus make the HttpOnly
on your cookie completely useless.
difference between width auto and width 100 percent
As long as the value of width is auto, the element can have horizontal margin, padding and border without becoming wider than its container (unless of course the sum of margin-left + border-left-width + padding-left + padding-right + border-right-width + margin-right is larger than the container). The width of its content box will be whatever is left when the margin, padding and border have been subtracted from the container’s width.
On the other hand, if you specify width:100%, the element’s total width will be 100% of its containing block plus any horizontal margin, padding and border (unless you’ve used box-sizing:border-box, in which case only margins are added to the 100% to change how its total width is calculated). This may be what you want, but most likely it isn’t.

So, yes, you could use the Add-PSSnapin
approach detailed by Christian, but it is also useful to appreciate the recommended sqlps module approach.
The simplest case assumes you have SQL Server 2012: sqlps is included in the installation so you simply load the module like any other (typically in your profile) via Import-Module sqlps
. You can check if the module is available on your system with Get-Module -ListAvailable
.
If you do not have SQL Server 2012, then all you need do is download the sqlps module into your modules directory so Get-Module/Import-Module will find it. Curiously, Microsoft does not make this module available for download! However, Chad Miller has kindly packaged up the requisite pieces and provided this module download. Unzip it under your ...Documents\WindowsPowerShell\Modules directory and proceed with the import.
It is interesting to note that the module approach and the snapin approach are not identical. If you load the snapins then run Get-PSSnapin
(without the -Registered parameter, to show only what you have loaded) you will see the SQL snapins. If, on the other hand, you load the sqlps module Get-PSSnapin
will not show the snapins loaded, so the various blog entries that test for the Invoke-Sqlcmd
cmdlet by only examining snapins could be giving a false negative result.

As other posters have said, you need to change the LayoutManager being used. I always preferred using a GridLayout so your code would become:

When using SASS how can I import a file from a different directory?
Looks like some changes to SASS have made possible what you've initially tried doing:
@import "../subdir/common";
We even got this to work for some totally unrelated folder located in c:\projects\sass

@import "../../../../../../../../../../projects/sass/common";
Just add enough ../
to be sure you'll end up at the drive root and you're good to go.
Of course, this solution is far from pretty, but I couldn't get an import from a totally different folder to work, neither using I c:\projects\sass
nor setting the environment variable SASS_PATH
(from: :load_paths reference) to that same value.

It is not possible to directly make a 3d surface using your data. I would recommend you to build an interpolation model using some tools like pykridge. The process will include three steps:

attribute to perform validation functions. ng-required
allows you to set the required

You should consider passing the -P argument in invoking Gradle.
From Gradle Documentation :
--project-prop
Sets a project property of the root project, for example -Pmyprop=myvalue. See Section 14.2, “Gradle properties and system properties”.
Considering this build.gradle

Invoking Gradle -PcustomProp=myProp
will give this output :
